Hey guys, uh, look, we got a great episode with Ali Siddique today. Tanya got married this weekend, they ran out of toilet paper. Or it was some ceremonial thing where I got an amazing blessing, you guys decide. Anyway, before this amazing episode with Ali Siddique, there are some things that we have to address, some very important things that have happened in the world. The Knicks, after 53 years, are NBA champions.

• 0:26Speaker 00

I'm so excited about it, I don't, uh, I don't know. I think, I think this is a cool moment because people have actually realized like, the only sport New Yorkers all care about is basketball. There are New Yorkers who care about baseball, there's New Yorkers who care about football, there's New Yorkers who care about hockey, but the only one that all of us come together to care about as a part of every single New Yorker's identity is basketball. And that's the only sport that we can all play, growing up. Like, my high school didn't have a fucking baseball diamond, you know, didn't have a football stadium. We had a basketball team, barely, wasn't even a home court. We had to go to this place called Basketball City.

• 1:08Speaker 00

It was like a facility that we would play our home games on. And, um, but yeah, so it's just, it's the sport that means the most to us. And, you know, we've suffered through, you know, half a century of, of losing and never got...

• 1:27Speaker 00

We were bitter, but we never lost hope. We never lost hope, and hope is the religion of New York City. Yeah, not to get too like existential, but that is what drives New York City. Like, nobody moves to New York City because they don't have, because they, they, they just want to kind of like, see what it's like, like to live a mediocre life. Like, you move here because you have hopes and dreams and you hope to achieve them in New York. And we never lost hope, it's just the weirdest thing. Like, every single year we'd have this like delusional Knicks fan thing where like, we're like, "Yeah, this is the year, we're taking it all the way with Emmanuel Mudiay", you know, and Jared Jack, and shout out to both of them, but like, you know, Enes Kanter is gonna bring us a chip.

• 2:08Speaker 00

We would believe, we believed every single year, for 42 years of my life, 53 years of other people's lives, and, um...

• 2:19Speaker 00

I think that's fucking awesome. It makes it that much sweeter. It makes it that much sweeter that like every single year felt like our year. Like I was looking through my phone, people are sending me videos. People sent me videos of like a decade ago of me going, nah Knicks are taking it this year.

• 2:35Speaker 00

And then you look at the lineups of these teams, there's no way the Knicks are taking it this year. But we believed that is one of those beautiful things about New York. And even the people that moved to New York to make a life here is they truly believed. They believe something crazy, something magical can happen. And that's exactly what we all got to witness. Also, I'm doing this movie out in California and they shaved my mustache and it took like five, 10 years off of my life. I feel like I'm on Guy Code again. It's absolutely insane. I don't even know if I'm looking into the right part. I don't even know where the camera is. I'm recording this on my phone, obviously. But um, yeah, they they snatched my stash, bro.

• 3:11Speaker 00

The games were nuts. We're gonna get to this episode. It's a phenomenal episode. You guys are gonna love it. This is the jersey that I wore when we finished it up, game five in San Antonio. I was at game three, four and five. How fucking lucky. How lucky. How incredible. Think about that. Think about that. Four was the greatest sporting event that I'll ever experience in my entire life. I'll never experience anything like that. That is it. It's all downhill from here when it comes to sporting events.

• 3:42Speaker 00

And then five was just complete euphoria. Like I gotta be honest, the San Antonio fans were very cool. They're very sweet, like they're great fans and they're used to winning. So I think it's, you know, they're not like combative, like but with all due respect to San Antonio fans, it was a home game in there. I mean, I'm being conservative when I say this, 40% of the arena Knicks fans. They were booing Spurs players while they shot free throws at home. It was.

• 4:16Speaker 00

Anyway, okay, I've talked too long on this, but God bless New York, man. Um, we can start focusing on the World Cup after the parade on Thursday. Shout out to Tartan Army, the Scottish taking over Boston. The World Cup is really like an amazing event, like outside of the sport. Like it is just, it might be like the most incredible act of humanity that exists. Just seeing people from all around the world embrace different cultures and see like the most beautiful, passionate parts of them and yeah, it's, it's pretty awesome. Whatever, we'll talk about that. I'll be out here for a few weeks. We've recorded a bank some, some dope eps for you guys to check out. So enjoy Ali Siddique. He's got some amazing stories. You're gonna find out who the hottest white woman in prison was.

• 4:58Speaker 00

Um, just amazing like stand up stuff and uh, yeah, just great, great episode. Hilarious guy, you know, it's almost drowned. Great story about that. I mean, just, just awesome stuff. So enjoy, love you guys so much. God bless the Knicks, God bless New York City. God bless you all, peace. What's up everybody and welcome to Flagrant. And today we are joined by a favorite guest of ours who is back. Uh, I think one of the most prolific comedians out right now, maybe ever. Just the volume is absolutely insane. He is yet another special. Do you know how annoying it is? That you have released multiple specials before.

• 5:40Speaker 00

I barely got back on the road from my last special and I'm here to celebrate. I have to celebrate you while also like, man, I'm not working hard enough, man. It's Ali Siddique. He's back in the building. Um, listen, this is perfect timing, you know, cause Houston's own just put out a triple album, you know? So uh,

• 6:03Speaker 00

Do you, does Houston claim, does Houston claim Drake?

• 6:08Speaker 01

  Um.

• 6:09Speaker 00

I like how we're getting political right off the top.

• 6:12Speaker 01

I, I don't think my era claims Drake. I think whatever that era is he's in claims it.

• 6:19Speaker 00

  Right.

• 6:20Speaker 01

But I've never been, oh, Houston, Drake's from Houston. I'm like, no, I don't even, I don't think I even said Drake hung out in Houston.

• 6:26Speaker 00

  Really?

• 6:27Speaker 01

It's not, it's not a, I'm not a, this is what it, what it is about Drake. Okay, music, okay, cool, music is cool. But.

• 6:35Speaker 00

  Ali.

• 6:36Speaker 01

  It was cool.

• 6:37Speaker 00

  I love you, bro.

• 6:39Speaker 00

I love you. The second I saw him adjusting his seat, I'm like, alright, take it away, man. They changed it away! Let me tell you something.

• 6:46Speaker 01

The music was cool because of this, to me.

• 6:49Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 6:50Speaker 01

Because it was so much familiar music that I had already heard growing up.

• 6:54Speaker 00

  Hmm.

• 6:55Speaker 01

So I could, I could see the emulation in when you did the Too Short joint, when you did, um, the Pimp C joint, when you did.

• 7:05Speaker 00

  Oh, so like, yeah.

• 7:06Speaker 01

So it's like, it's familiar to, it's familiar to me. I'm like, oh, okay, I, I, I remember this. But it's not really celebrating. You were celebrating the era where I know you got it from.

• 7:17Speaker 00

  Right.

• 7:17Speaker 01

You understand? So I wasn't like, oh, Drake is the man. I've never gave him that lyrically, so.

• 7:24Speaker 00

  Really?

• 7:26Speaker 01

Man, it's better lyricist than Drake.

• 7:28Speaker 00

Who for you is top three, top five?

• 7:31Speaker 01

  Lyrics?

• 7:32Speaker 00

  Just lyrics.

• 7:33Speaker 01

Oh, just lyrics. Um, the stories telling guru of all times is Slick Rick. It, his, his, how he paints the picture is, is phenomenal.

• 7:42Speaker 00

  Yeah, okay.

• 7:42Speaker 01

Then you have to, can I put them together? Cause I heard somebody say that another group was the greatest group of hip hop of all time. I was like, so y'all never heard of Run DMC? But.

• 7:59Speaker 00

Who'd they say was the other greatest group?

• 8:00Speaker 01

And, and it is, and I like both groups.

• 8:03Speaker 00

  Outkast?

• 8:04Speaker 01

Outkast. And I like both groups.

• 8:06Speaker 00

  That's hard to, yeah.

• 8:07Speaker 01

But you can't, ah, it's just one of them things. You gonna put overrun and Daryl Mack?

• 8:15Speaker 00

This is where like our age is showing a little bit like the way something affects you when you're in your formative years. You know, like it's like the way that we look at Jordan, nobody could look at Jordan that grew up with LeBron.

• 8:28Speaker 01

But see, the thing is before Jordan, cause I didn't grow up yelling Jordan. It was always Dr. J. It was a different era.

• 8:37Speaker 00

Not even Hakeem when you're in Houston?

• 8:39Speaker 01

No, Hakeem came with Jordan. I'm 52. They was already, I'm a bean. I'm living already. I'm already watching basketball.

• 8:50Speaker 00

So Dr. J was number one?

• 8:52Speaker 01

Dr. J was the number one guy, even over Kareem. Even then, I didn't grow up yelling Kareem.

• 9:02Speaker 01

Even though I tried to get the skyhook down.

• 9:04Speaker 00

But you wanna play like Dr. J.

• 9:05Speaker 01

Dr. J was, Jordan wanted to play like Dr. J. So the thing is, how do you, and I'm just not one of the people that skip over the original idea for the take on the idea.

• 9:21Speaker 00

Especially if you lived through the original idea.

• 9:23Speaker 01

I'm old as hip hop, but hip hop wasn't.

• 9:27Speaker 00

  Oh shit.

• 9:28Speaker 01

  Just think about it.

• 9:29Speaker 00

  They turned 50, that's crazy.

• 9:31Speaker 01

I'm 52 now, I'm 52. So I remember when it wasn't hip hop yet. It wasn't, the Voltron hadn't happened yet.

• 9:42Speaker 00

  Could you say MC?

• 9:43Speaker 01

It was rapping. It was just called rapping. And then it wasn't the dancing yet in the fashion and all of these things. It hadn't combined yet to become hip hop.

• 9:54Speaker 00

Wasn't it also like, there was like a DJing aspect too?

• 9:57Speaker 01

DJing, you know, but that's the part with the MC for the beat. But, and then this thing, before people had beat machines.

• 10:07Speaker 01

I had a dude named Herb.

• 10:09Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 10:13Speaker 01

  He beating on his chest.

• 10:15Speaker 00

  He wants B machines.

• 10:17Speaker 01

He using his mouth. It's the human jock box. It's the fat boys. And then the skinny boys. He's there, dirty, fresh. It was like, make the music with your mouth beers. What they think this came? What they thought he was doing? He was beatboxing. So it wasn't, it wasn't a, hey, uh, this is by, this is mustard on the beat. No, it's Herb on the beat.

• 10:40Speaker 00

  That's so funny.

• 10:41Speaker 01

So, you know, you gotta think about how the overall thing, like, when you talk about great producers, they're talking about everybody else, but leave out Herbie Lovebug. Or Herbie Hancock. Like, how do you leave out these people who, in the beginning, the beginning people?

• 10:58Speaker 00

You know Herbie Hancock? Herbie Hancock was on the, wasn't he on the Constitution?

• 11:05Speaker 00

  No, no, John Hancock.

• 11:08Speaker 01

  That's a, that's a signature.

• 11:09Speaker 00

That's his nephew. His nephew, Herbie.

• 11:14Speaker 01

That's the thing. You can't, it's like, even with, like, podcasting or late night shows, how do you just put somebody else over the, over the original idea? Cause it was somebody that originally did this first.

• 11:29Speaker 00

Who was your original for the late night shows?

• 11:31Speaker 01

Oh, man. You gonna have to go Johnny Carson.

• 11:35Speaker 00

Now, would you consume Carson, like, in your house?

• 11:38Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm a kid. It's like, when I'm growing up, Johnny Carson is coming on this TV.

• 11:43Speaker 00

When we were growing up, there was one TV. So it was like a house?

• 11:46Speaker 01

We had, we had, we had two TVs. You had one at the bottom that you, that didn't work that good. And then you put the other one.

• 11:55Speaker 01

  That's two TVs.

• 11:58Speaker 00

Like, it was a familial event, watching something?

• 12:01Speaker 01

Together, you know? Like Bonanza. Man, I'm never gonna not like Bonanza.

• 12:06Speaker 00

I don't know. What is Bonanza?

• 12:07Speaker 01

This is my first soap opera. This is like, this is like, yo, man, this is a great show. Like, I grew up, Carol Burnett, right? This is my first comedic, you know, person.

• 12:21Speaker 00

  You know, there's a, uh...

• 12:22Speaker 01

Oh, man, this is, do you understand Bonanza? Bro, let me tell you something.

• 12:28Speaker 00

I hope you guys are watching the video.

• 12:30Speaker 01

Look how fly, look how fly they, well man, look at this jacket, bro.

• 12:35Speaker 00

That jacket do go hard, I ain't got a lot of.

• 12:38Speaker 01

I had that on last night at Disha's thing. Yo, this is, this is, man, this is a, a classic show and, and, and things always happen. And, and, and. Look at that man, this guy's backhand.

• 12:50Speaker 00

That's the standard for TV back in the day. Things are always happening.

• 12:54Speaker 01

I'm on my own Bonanza, yo.

• 12:55Speaker 00

  This is just White Shaft.

• 12:57Speaker 01

  If I could do.

• 13:00Speaker 01

No, no, you gotta go, you gotta get to, look, look, look, watch out now. You know, the Cartwrights, the Cartwrights are the first, like, cowboy mob family, like, with nothing jumping off without Cartwrights.

• 13:12Speaker 01

If I could do a black version of this, it'd be crazy. They need to bring this back, man. Bonanza, if you, I'm telling you, if you sit down and watch Bonanza, then you'll call me and be like, yo, Bonanza's crazy.

• 13:27Speaker 01

This is, this is a great show, but just think, my first comedic, um, influence, Carol Burnett.

• 13:37Speaker 01

It's not the, watch, listen to Richard Pryor albums, I, I'm first interested in comedy because of how funny Carol Burnett was. I would watch the Carol Burnett show and it was hysterical. Really? Like, Carol Burnett show was hysterical, like, if you go back and you look at all the shows that we watched, that we came up on, like, I, I have a strong argument when people try to say that, you know, TV is an idiot box. No, it's the idiot that's in front of the box, that's what you choosing to watch. You know what I'm saying? It's like, if you sit up, aw, man, you talking about a hysterical show. This show is hysterical.

• 14:18Speaker 01

It's like, and all the different characters that Carol Burnett played, it's like she doesn't get enough, um, recognition amongst people for comedy. Cause this is like, this came on, man.

• 14:33Speaker 02

  Come on.

• 14:35Speaker 01

He just walked in with just like.

• 14:38Speaker 01

This is crazy. Like, this is a crazy show, so.

• 14:43Speaker 02

I went back and watched a bunch of I Love Lucy.

• 14:45Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 14:46Speaker 02

And I was, I was shocked at how funny it was.

• 14:48Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 14:49Speaker 02

What? Like, because in my mind, I'm like, I don't know, sometimes I'll watch old stand-up, like Lenny Bruce. And I'm like, I can appreciate what it was in the time, but it's not funny to me now the way it was then. But I'll watch I Love Lucy, and I was expecting it to be the same thing, like corny jokes, I don't know.

• 15:04Speaker 00

  No.

• 15:05Speaker 02

  It was legit funny situations.

• 15:07Speaker 01

So the thing is, you said that it's not funny as it was back then. You had, you would have to travel back in time and go back then and be like, yo.

• 15:14Speaker 02

  The context.

• 15:14Speaker 01

But you have people that have transcended time.

• 15:18Speaker 02

  I think Pryor does that.

• 15:19Speaker 01

You know, um, a lot of people do it. Pryor's like top tier, and I, and I think that people get, when Pryor's not your, your focus. Oh, it's Pryor, or, or like, I, I liked Richard Pryor, but he wasn't Cosby to me.

• 15:39Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 15:39Speaker 01

  Cosby was.

• 15:40Speaker 02

  And Cosby still holds up.

• 15:42Speaker 01

  It like.

• 15:42Speaker 02

  Well, comedically.

• 15:43Speaker 01

He, Cosby is like the pinnacle. And then you have, you have Don Rickles. You have Don Rickles.

• 15:50Speaker 00

  Don holds up.

• 15:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 15:52Speaker 01

You know what I'm saying? And that, that's the, that's the thing, you, you have comics throughout comedy history that hold the, the, the test of time. But.

• 16:01Speaker 00

It's hard with stand-up though, man. It's very hard. There are like movies that you can watch from back in the day, and you can be like, holy shit, this is an amazing film. And there's a lot of them. Like, you can watch Shawshank Redemption right now, and you can be like, this is one of the best films I've ever seen in my life. I'll watch like shitty action movies from when I was a kid, and I'll be like, this is, this is Armageddon? I showed my wife Armageddon, and she's like, how did I not know about this movie? I was like, because you were zero when it came out.

• 16:26Speaker 02

He just described Armageddon to me. I was like, what is this movie about? And he just explains it in three minutes of the explanation, he starts going.

• 16:35Speaker 02

I started crying, bro. He went upon the asteroid and blew it up.

• 16:41Speaker 00

He started crying just explaining. And he goes, requesting permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I've ever met. That shit, I can't even talk about it right now. I'm talking about right now, bro. That movie is a good one. Shout out to the Smalls, man. The legend.

• 16:57Speaker 01

It's like, you sound like my mom when she watching Office of the Gentleman. When he came through, he carried her through the.

• 17:06Speaker 00

Uh, like, I saw a TikTok that fucked me up today, man. There's something about my algorithm where like, like seeing Chinese dads like from China, like give up their daughter in like marriage or whatever like that. They gotta take the hand and put the hand in the husband's hand. And it's like, it's over. And there's this one where like, he says it, it's in Chinese, but there's subtitles. He might not even be saying this shit. He might be like, take this bitch, I'm done with her, right? Like, but it says, uh, if you ever don't, if you ever find yourself not in love with her, please, please bring her back to me or something like that.

• 17:40Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 17:40Speaker 00

And I was like, god damn.

• 17:44Speaker 00

  Oh, here it is.

• 17:46Speaker 00

Oh, he's speaking English. I didn't even know. I didn't even know it.

• 17:53Speaker 00

They got the COVID mask on.

• 18:04Speaker 00

Cause you're not used to seeing them get emotional. You don't see them emotional.

• 18:08Speaker 01

I, I think that is, you're not used to seeing.

• 18:11Speaker 00

  Chinese people emotional.

• 18:12Speaker 01

  No.

• 18:14Speaker 00

I don't see it often. You don't see it that often. I see white people and black people and Latinos get emotional, but Chinese emotion, you never see that shit. They're stoic. They'll wait 50 years for revenge.

• 18:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 18:24Speaker 00

But they don't just cry. My whole algorithm is just Asian dads.

• 18:31Speaker 00

  It's the whole algorithm.

• 18:32Speaker 01

  Asian dads breaking down.

• 18:33Speaker 00

  That's it.

• 18:34Speaker 01

And it gets me every single time.

• 18:40Speaker 00

What gets you? You're an emotional guy.

• 18:43Speaker 01

Um, just kids. You know, something happening with kids, like it bothers me. You know, if, if I could, if they would, if the United States would legally allow me to be, um, like a vigilante and anybody who hurt kids and you just let me take care of it, I would do it. Like, I would sign up like right away. Like, it's like, yo.

• 19:07Speaker 00

You wouldn't be a vigilante in that.

• 19:08Speaker 01

And they would, they would give me a list. Like, these are all the people that you can legally take out of here. Any type of way you want to, cause they hurt kids. I'm like, I would be so diligent on that list. I'm like.

• 19:20Speaker 00

  Be like Santa Claus.

• 19:21Speaker 01

Like my list, I'm talking about it would be, I would be getting it done. They, they, they would be amazed. I would come back like, no, no.

• 19:27Speaker 00

  More.

• 19:28Speaker 01

He's, he's done like four lists. Like everybody else is still on their first list. But he's like, he's getting the, he's to the business.

• 19:37Speaker 01

Like I'm like, yo, like this, this, this list kind of short.

• 19:42Speaker 01

Like this is just in one city. Cause I'm, oh yeah, it's gonna be, I'm, and I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it. It's gonna be bad. Like it's gonna be bad. Like I'm, I'm leaving by these places like in bad.

• 19:55Speaker 01

And with a, with a, like yo, he was on the list. Yeah. And like, like just, and I'm like, I'm like, I'd be like what they call Malika Moe. Um, I'm not wavering. Like I'm not like, it's nothing you can say to me. Like it's like, once you see me and you know that you on this list, you know you did something.

• 20:12Speaker 00

  That's it.

• 20:12Speaker 01

Like, oh, it's, it's, hey, bruh. It is what it is. Like, you ever seen, um.

• 20:17Speaker 00

  Jason.

• 20:18Speaker 01

No, what's that movie? Um. Oh, No Country For Old Men.

• 20:23Speaker 00

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 20:24Speaker 01

  Old Boy.

• 20:25Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:25Speaker 01

That was on there with the, with the, with the.

• 20:26Speaker 00

Yeah, Javier Bardem plays the guy.

• 20:28Speaker 01

Oh, he was, yo, flip, flip the coin. Oh, you ain't gotta do this. Yeah, we gotta do it.

• 20:35Speaker 01

I don't even had no coin. I'm like.

• 20:37Speaker 00

  You're on the list.

• 20:39Speaker 01

You're on the list. That's a mistake. Ah, I don't know about that. You gotta deal with that. You gotta do that whenever you get a chance.

• 20:44Speaker 00

Yeah, if you had the same name as someone you know is on the list, you gotta change your name.

• 20:48Speaker 01

  Oh, man.

• 20:48Speaker 00

  Cause Ali's coming.

• 20:49Speaker 01

I'm coming. I'm coming. Like, and I, and I got plans for you. Like, like I, it's not like I'm, like I've already thought about what I'm doing. Each one gonna be different, but it's gonna be a bag.

• 21:01Speaker 01

Whether the little bag or small bag, you like, yo, either you, did you see the one that he left? It was just like a soup bag. It was like, it was a bag with a.

• 21:08Speaker 00

Like a boil? It's like a crab boil.

• 21:11Speaker 01

  Yo, he's wow.

• 21:14Speaker 00

Have you seen Dexter? You're familiar with Dexter, right?

• 21:16Speaker 01

  I've seen it.

• 21:17Speaker 00

He goes out and kills serial killers?

• 21:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:18Speaker 00

Or he kills bad people, right?

• 21:20Speaker 01

  Kills bad people.

• 21:20Speaker 00

I thought it was serial killers. Nah, it's like, it's like anybody, it's only, it's only serial killers or it's just like anybody who's bad?

• 21:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:27Speaker 00

That's fine. We like that. That's kind of.

• 21:29Speaker 01

I would, I would definitely be like. Like you did a job.

• 21:35Speaker 00

Could you deal with the violence aspect though? Like, would that be difficult?

• 21:41Speaker 00

He just said it'd be bad.

• 21:43Speaker 01

  Like what?

• 21:46Speaker 01

  Like what?

• 21:47Speaker 00

Do you know, do you know the, uh, oh fuck, what's the name of it? Let's rap about it, you know the Let's rap about it pod? It's got Mano, Jim Jones, Dave East and Fabulous. Have you ever seen these guys? Bro, they were doing, they asked them a question, they're like, what would you do if you guys weren't rapping? And then they said different things, like maybe I'd be in fashion, maybe I'd do this, maybe I'd do that. And then Mano's go, Mano goes, I'd be a serial killer.

• 22:13Speaker 00

It's not a job, it's a hobby. This is the exact.

• 22:17Speaker 01

If I wasn't a comic, I'd be a chef. You know, I already know, you know, still cutting stuff.

• 22:24Speaker 01

You know, I, that take me back to, um, well, thinking about when, when people talk about eras of things. So, I had, I was doing somebody else's podcast, and I gonna give them the name.

• 22:39Speaker 00

  Shout him out?

• 22:40Speaker 01

Oh, no, I'm not trying to shout him out.

• 22:42Speaker 00

  Oh, okay, okay, okay.

• 22:44Speaker 01

I was giving somebody, I was giving a take on something on somebody else's podcast. And I'm talking from what happened in the 90s.

• 22:53Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 22:54Speaker 01

Then somebody else was on that same podcast and said, what I said was BS. But then I went and looked up when they were locked up. They were locked up in 2014.

• 23:09Speaker 00

Ah, so it's a very different time.

• 23:11Speaker 01

It's a different time, and I think that some guys, and then I text the person on the podcast, I say, what, from what I'm hearing, what I'm not gonna let, allow you to do is get me into no beef with somebody over an era that they didn't understand.

• 23:29Speaker 00

  Right.

• 23:29Speaker 01

I said, cause it, it, it'll go there, and that's the, and that's the thing, but me being intelligent enough to understand that you're speaking from a different era than what this was. That's like me talking about, oh, what would have never happened in the 50s. I wasn't in the 50s.

• 23:45Speaker 00

  Can't say.

• 23:45Speaker 01

I just know what was happening in the 90s.

• 23:48Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 23:48Speaker 01

And sometimes people speak on things without understanding the era.

• 23:53Speaker 00

  Yeah, that's, that's podcasting.

• 23:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:56Speaker 00

  It's kind of the medium.

• 23:57Speaker 01

Yeah, and that's the thing, it's like, people.

• 24:01Speaker 00

But if you're in a room, it's kind of difficult, but when you're in a room with someone who's had the experience, it's kind of difficult to be like, no, you didn't have that experience that you're telling me about.

• 24:09Speaker 01

Yeah, but the great thing is. This person had an experience, but in 2014. It's not the same.

• 24:18Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 24:19Speaker 01

  In 1993.

• 24:21Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 24:22Speaker 01

In 2014. You didn't even have, y'all didn't even have canned goods when you were locked up.

• 24:28Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 24:29Speaker 01

You had pouches. So how are you gonna talk about what we would have did in, in, in 93 when we had canned goods?

• 24:37Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 24:38Speaker 01

  Two different eras.

• 24:39Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 24:40Speaker 01

You know, I remember when people used to drink out of the water holes outside or out of a hydrant. Just random, you would turn on, but now it's, oh, like I'll never forget. My cousin was thirsty and I had some water and I was like, here. He was like, man, I ain't drinking that to you. Like, since when?

• 24:59Speaker 01

Like, since when? Like, what are you talking about?

• 25:00Speaker 00

Yeah, we shared a garden vibe.

• 25:03Speaker 01

We drank out of the same jug in the house. Like, what are you talking about? I ate half of my ice cream and you ate the other half. You invite, are you insane?

• 25:14Speaker 01

Like, then I had one cousin who still lives in that, in that era. Like, I was, what that fool said to me, he's like, yo, man, scratch my back. I'm like, I ain't scratched your back. What, you gay? I was like.

• 25:28Speaker 01

Cause I know I would have scratched his back then, back in the day. I'm like, and he like, no, no, no.

• 25:35Speaker 00

  You can't get into it.

• 25:36Speaker 01

I'm like, yo, I'm like, and then after that, like, yo, you still, he's like, nah. I'm like, I didn't, why you saying, stop.

• 25:43Speaker 00

I thought you were doing it.

• 25:46Speaker 01

It's like, it is, it's, it's a different, it's a different era. Like, we talking about the Chucks, right?

• 25:53Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 25:54Speaker 01

This is the original color. There was no color Chucks. And we dyed them with food color. It was like Easter eggs. And then we wanted another color, we would dye them. It was there, but people, in this, in this, like, I refuse.

• 26:09Speaker 00

He told us they sold Chucks at the grocery store.

• 26:11Speaker 01

Yeah, like, any, you can get Chucks anywhere.

• 26:14Speaker 00

  Freezer section.

• 26:15Speaker 01

And they was, the high tops was $12.

• 26:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 26:19Speaker 01

The low tops was eight. So just imagine, I remember I'm in, I'm like mid 40s at the time, and I'm appalled. And some, I'm like, yo, I'm gonna go buy me a fresh pair of Chucks.

• 26:29Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 26:30Speaker 01

And I went in them Chucks was like.

• 26:31Speaker 00

Fifty dollars or something like that.

• 26:33Speaker 01

It was like sixty-four dollars in taxes. I was like, man. I'm not, I'm not buying, I'm not paying this for no Jux.

• 26:40Speaker 00

I'm not buying a real sneaker.

• 26:42Speaker 01

  And I refused.

• 26:47Speaker 00

He just bought your vegetables and went home.

• 26:49Speaker 01

And I'm like, I'm left. I'm like, I ain't buying these shoes. Crazy. But I bought some, like, maybe three months ago, I bought some black ones to, um, start doing, um, squats in, cause of, cause they flat. Yeah, but.

• 27:03Speaker 00

Don't work out in these shoes. Don't put yourself through that. I think that's why they dribbled like that back in the day. You can't crossover in these.

• 27:11Speaker 01

  Yeah, you told her.

• 27:14Speaker 01

That's one of the things, people talk about who had the best crossover. I'mma always still say Tim Hardaway.

• 27:20Speaker 00

  Well.

• 27:20Speaker 01

Because of, because of, it was no, it was no.

• 27:23Speaker 00

  It's a different crossover.

• 27:24Speaker 01

  It was no this.

• 27:25Speaker 00

  No, it was quick.

• 27:25Speaker 01

It wasn't no carry. It was a. It was then so, or Skip to Malou.

• 27:30Speaker 00

  Oh, wow.

• 27:30Speaker 01

Skip to Malou had a crazy crossover. You understand?

• 27:33Speaker 00

Tim's was deceptive, man. Cause Tim, Tim was so shifty and like, I'm a Knicks fan, so I got to see Tim's crossover and it was painful.

• 27:41Speaker 01

So I'm, I'm like, Tim was crazy.

• 27:43Speaker 00

But look at that. It was the between the leg cross. A lot of people just do that regular cross in front. But he would go.

• 27:49Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. He was filthy. Just filthy. And then who added, who, who the next? Abdul Rauf. Right after that. His cross was bananas.

• 27:58Speaker 00

  Yeah, but.

• 27:59Speaker 01

  But it's not that carrying.

• 28:01Speaker 00

He didn't, he didn't pledge allegiance, bro, so.

• 28:03Speaker 01

Man, but just still, he was still there. Everybody apologized to him. They did, they did document it on that. They knew they was wrong for that.

• 28:09Speaker 00

  But he was filthy.

• 28:10Speaker 01

  What happened?

• 28:11Speaker 00

This guy was basically like Steph before Steph.

• 28:13Speaker 01

  Way before, like.

• 28:14Speaker 00

And like, lights out shooter. And what was the deal? He wouldn't stand for the national anthem or something like that?

• 28:18Speaker 01

He didn't wanna stand for it.

• 28:19Speaker 00

And, uh, but he was unbelievable. Who'd he play for?

• 28:22Speaker 01

Wow, he was taking a knee back. The, um, the Nuggets.

• 28:25Speaker 00

  Denver Nuggets.

• 28:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:26Speaker 00

  But he was filthy.

• 28:27Speaker 01

  He came from LSU.

• 28:29Speaker 00

  I mean, unbelievable.

• 28:30Speaker 01

  I'm tomorrow.

• 28:31Speaker 00

  Unbelievable player.

• 28:31Speaker 01

The pull-up was crazy. Like, he, I remember when he gave Chicago the business.

• 28:37Speaker 00

  Fifty piece?

• 28:37Speaker 01

Oh, it, this, this is a, this is the part that people don't say about this, so. They, he's giving everybody the business. So then they tried to put everybody on him, everybody. And Scottie, they, Jordan grabbed Scottie like you hold him.

• 28:53Speaker 01

And then Scottie was getting roasted. Then Jordan tried to host, hold him. He cooked Jordan.

• 28:59Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 28:59Speaker 01

And then they put, uh, like Paxton on him or, or curry or somebody.

• 29:03Speaker 03

  Can't do it.

• 29:04Speaker 01

And it was, and it was like, it was, it was crazy.

• 29:06Speaker 03

Said, I never heard of this, but.

• 29:07Speaker 00

You remember him, this was like a big story back in the day.

• 29:10Speaker 03

Oh, damn it, um, you got a couple.

• 29:12Speaker 01

  He was cooking.

• 29:13Speaker 00

I mean, just filthy. Quick release, like, again, it was a very different game. Like they didn't shoot threes like they do now, but like just lights out.

• 29:22Speaker 01

  Like, it was, it was.

• 29:23Speaker 03

And so the team dropped him and no one resigned him because he went to stand for the.

• 29:26Speaker 00

  Basically blackballed.

• 29:27Speaker 01

Yeah, they blackballed him. They did the same thing to Craig Hodges though.

• 29:30Speaker 00

Yeah, well, because he didn't go to the White House.

• 29:32Speaker 01

He wore a, no, because he wore a dash shikigami to the White House.

• 29:35Speaker 03

  What?

• 29:35Speaker 00

  Really?

• 29:36Speaker 01

Yep. If you was, if you was Muslim.

• 29:38Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 29:38Speaker 01

And you were in the NBA at this time, you were getting, you were getting shunned. Just like when they talk about the fifty greatest, um, centers. Uh, they talk about the greatest centers, they leave out Hakeem all the time, which is insane.

• 29:51Speaker 00

  No, that's crazy.

• 29:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, that is.

• 29:52Speaker 01

  Which is insane.

• 29:53Speaker 00

Nobody's leaving out Hakeem from the top fifty centers.

• 29:55Speaker 01

Oh, man, they do it all, they do it all.

• 29:56Speaker 00

  You can't.

• 29:57Speaker 01

No, I'm talking about when they do the top, the.

• 29:58Speaker 00

  Fifty players ever.

• 29:59Speaker 01

When they do the top five, that doesn't mean.

• 30:01Speaker 00

  Ah, okay.

• 30:02Speaker 01

When they do the top five.

• 30:03Speaker 00

  Kareem.

• 30:03Speaker 01

  It's gonna be.

• 30:04Speaker 00

Bill Russell, Shaq, not in this order. Uh, Hakeem.

• 30:11Speaker 03

You put two Muslims up there, that's fire.

• 30:14Speaker 00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, like, who else would you put there? Kareem, Bill Russell, Wilt, Shaq, Hakeem.

• 30:23Speaker 01

  They are.

• 30:24Speaker 00

Hakeem got the rings, Pat Ewing doesn't have the rings. Who else would be there?

• 30:27Speaker 01

They, they be throwing all type of people there. I'm glad that you mentioned Bill Russell. Cause they'll leave, they'll leave Bill Russell out as the greatest player that played. I'm like, but he was, he was playing against the moments, like what?

• 30:38Speaker 00

  He was playing against.

• 30:39Speaker 01

Man, he was playing against, he was playing against everybody that was available to play against.

• 30:44Speaker 00

  That's true, that's true. That's very true.

• 30:47Speaker 01

It's like, they don't take, they don't take, this is a, this new NBA is a travel, is a travel league.

• 30:51Speaker 00

In Boston, think about this. Like Boston is like divided, segregated, racist as fuck, like.

• 30:57Speaker 01

  As.

• 30:58Speaker 00

They let him coach. That's how incredible, they let him coach and play.

• 31:03Speaker 01

He played and coached and he won two rings.

• 31:05Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 31:06Speaker 01

As he played and coached. There's no player today that can sub himself out.

• 31:13Speaker 02

Wait, he was playing and coaching at the same time?

• 31:15Speaker 01

He was playing and coaching at the same exact time.

• 31:17Speaker 00

How many rings did he, he won?

• 31:18Speaker 01

  Two, two playing and coaching.

• 31:19Speaker 00

He won two as a player coach, but before that he won nine. And, I mean, yeah, this is a time where like he couldn't even stay at, I think, similar hotels when they went down south and shit. Like, it was insane.

• 31:29Speaker 03

But was the play always just pass it to me?

• 31:31Speaker 00

No, he was a defensive specialist.

• 31:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:34Speaker 00

He could control the whole game.

• 31:35Speaker 01

  And he was 6'8".

• 31:36Speaker 00

  Yeah, and, and amazing rebounder.

• 31:38Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 31:39Speaker 00

My dad said that guy ever played, my dad said that's the, the most dominant person he ever saw play the game was Bill Russell. And this is during Wilt, when Wilt is putting up like insane like video game numbers. But he said Russell could dominate the game defensively, in a way they're like, you've just never seen.

• 31:55Speaker 01

And, and, and people just will skip over, oh, the greatest, they, they skip all the way to, to whoever's current. But when I watch, when I watch LeBron, no knock on LeBron, LeBron a good player. But if, if, if LeBron does 10, 10, um, get the ball 10 times and he scores 10 times. Out of those 10, he's traveled 6.

• 32:19Speaker 01

Like a legit, I wish I was, if I, I would be the most hated referee.

• 32:26Speaker 01

If I was repping right now, I'm like, yo, I don't care how fantastic, and look, you traveled.

• 32:33Speaker 01

It ain't no gather step now, now we gotta gather step. It's been, it's been two step, ah, ah, and you in there.

• 32:39Speaker 00

  Not anymore, not anymore.

• 32:41Speaker 01

Like, they, they making up rules.

• 32:43Speaker 00

Yeah, they found a way to add some more steps in there.

• 32:45Speaker 01

Oh, bruh, I watched, it, it was a fantastic play the other night, dude dunked on dude. And I went back and I rewound it, I said, now look at all these steps.

• 32:55Speaker 00

  Four steps.

• 32:56Speaker 01

  It was five steps.

• 32:57Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 32:58Speaker 01

  It was five steps.

• 32:59Speaker 00

They kinda let you do whatever you want on the fast break, have you noticed that? Like, you do the fast break, you should pick up the ball wherever you want, dunk it.

• 33:06Speaker 03

  Didn't Wemby?

• 33:07Speaker 01

  Look, LeBron traveling complex.

• 33:09Speaker 03

With just one bounce or some shit like that?

• 33:11Speaker 01

Is he holding the ball at that time? He was probably holding the ball right then, walking. LeBron be traveling, man.

• 33:18Speaker 00

  One, one, two, three, four.

• 33:23Speaker 01

LeBron is crazy. One, two, three.

• 33:27Speaker 01

They don't care. One, two, three.

• 33:32Speaker 01

They talking about, oh, they could have, names of people could have. Yo, he's literally walking. Nah, you gotta, you gotta get the Russell Westbrook. One, two, three, four. Like, yo, what are you doing? Ball going the other way. Like, you, are you insane right now? Get the Russell Westbrook travel. This is a legendary.

• 33:51Speaker 01

He didn't even, Russell Westbrook. Wow. Oh, no, they called it. They called it when they couldn't believe it. He's like, what? What did I do? Look at, watch this, watch this, watch this. Oh, Russell is literally walking now. Just watch this, hold on, watch. Oh, I've seen this, this is crazy. Yo, what are you doing, bro? What are you doing? He was coming home from school. What are you doing, bro? Look at how I remember Russell, Russell's like, what? Y'all don't do that.

• 34:21Speaker 01

So only LeBron can do this? What?

• 34:28Speaker 01

  Like, yo!

• 34:30Speaker 01

Look at Steph, look at Steph telling, look at Steph telling on him.

• 34:36Speaker 02

That really is a three v three, like, travel. Like, you're just, like, playing in the court.

• 34:39Speaker 01

Yo, like, yo, like, he a referee, like, ball down.

• 34:45Speaker 02

  No, you got a point.

Now, more than ever, we need someone on our side. But Rob Whitman? Whitman's votes drove up costs, cut Medicaid, and risked 350,000 Virginians' healthcare to pay for tax breaks for himself and his donors. He's not on our side. Shannon Taylor will fight corruption, cut taxes, and bring down costs. This November, vote for Shannon Taylor. She's for us. Paid for by HMP, the House Majority PAC.com. • 36:36Speaker 02

What is the greatest sporting event you've seen with your own eyes?

• 36:40Speaker 01

  Ah.

• 36:41Speaker 02

You were in the building or at the event?

• 36:43Speaker 01

It was a professional, because it's been a kickball.

• 36:49Speaker 01

We was down like by the nine runs.

• 36:51Speaker 02

I'll take that one. What happened?

• 36:53Speaker 01

Came back, man. Herb on the beatboxing.

• 37:03Speaker 01

I understand. Everything is not professional.

• 37:09Speaker 01

I think that's the thing that people think also that if it's professional, that's the greatest.

• 37:13Speaker 02

Bro, now that one meant more to you, probably.

• 37:17Speaker 02

  It does.

• 37:18Speaker 00

  Little intramural game in college.

• 37:20Speaker 01

You start seeing it falling apart, like, yo. You start to come back. Like, when you come back, I've come back in the game with 21, and then, like, I was down. But I can hoop. I was down and it and it just started. And 21 is a harder game than regular basketball. Cause everybody's again, whoever who's ever playing is playing you. They guarding you. If it's nine people playing, it's like it's eight against one every time you touch the ball. So to win that game.

• 37:50Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 37:51Speaker 01

You know, I would love to see pros, cause all of them came up playing 21.

• 37:55Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 37:56Speaker 01

Or tip out, whatever. I would love to see all the pros, like Ice Cube need to add this to.

• 38:00Speaker 00

  To the big three.

• 38:02Speaker 01

Like this a game of 21 with all pros and tip out count. Now, tip out is gonna be the worst.

• 38:08Speaker 00

We gotta explain to people who maybe didn't grow up playing 21. So there's a game that you play where you usually have like an odd number of dudes. Like when will you not play 21?

• 38:18Speaker 01

I will never not play 21.

• 38:19Speaker 00

  Meaning like.

• 38:20Speaker 01

Even if it's even, even if it's even.

• 38:22Speaker 00

  You're crazy.

• 38:22Speaker 01

  Yeah, we playing 21.

• 38:24Speaker 00

  That's selfish.

• 38:25Speaker 01

  Cause no, because.

• 38:26Speaker 00

  You don't wanna pass.

• 38:27Speaker 01

We let everybody play because it's gonna be somebody that let me tell you how I eat.

• 38:31Speaker 00

Cause you want the bum on your.

• 38:32Speaker 01

How you get an even number 21?

• 38:34Speaker 00

Usually it's, you right. Let's just explain the game to people real quick, right? So basically like you would usually play it when you had like five guys, whatever. So you didn't wanna play two on two and just leave one guy out, whatever. You're waiting for a six. And it's basically everyone for themselves. Everyone can D up on one, somebody if they want it, but usually it's kinda like one on one. And you gotta get to 21 and every bucket you score, you get to go to the free throw line.

• 38:57Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 38:57Speaker 00

  And you get to shoot.

• 38:58Speaker 03

  So every bucket is two.

• 38:59Speaker 01

  One.

• 39:00Speaker 03

  And the free throw.

• 39:00Speaker 01

Every bucket is two and every, and every free throw is one.

• 39:03Speaker 00

  And you have to, exactly.

• 39:04Speaker 03

  You get three free throws.

• 39:05Speaker 00

You get three, three free throws. But then when you hit 21, you gotta hit it from the top of the key.

• 39:10Speaker 01

Y'all, y'all had to hit it from time. I was any, any, anywhere. You know what I'm saying? But once you hit, once you get to 19, if you miss that shot or you go to the free, say you got 20, you go to that free throw and you miss.

• 39:22Speaker 00

  You go back to 15.

• 39:23Speaker 01

  You go back to 15.

• 39:24Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 39:24Speaker 03

  Oh, wow.

• 39:25Speaker 00

But then there's also the tipping.

• 39:26Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 39:27Speaker 00

So if you miss a shot, someone rebounds and puts it right back in.

• 39:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:31Speaker 00

You go down to 12 or something like that.

• 39:32Speaker 01

  Your feet.

• 39:33Speaker 00

Yeah. You gotta be in the air.

• 39:34Speaker 01

You gotta be in the air.

• 39:35Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 39:35Speaker 01

  And then you out.

• 39:36Speaker 03

  21, man.

• 39:37Speaker 00

So how do you, so how do you, how do you play even?

• 39:40Speaker 01

Okay, so it's, it's everybody that's out there, it's four people and I'm not picking Rick.

• 39:49Speaker 00

  You're the bum, yeah.

• 39:49Speaker 01

  Rick sucks.

• 39:50Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 39:51Speaker 01

So Rick is gonna have to play until somebody else come. We playing 21 to somebody else. Because we, we know, or, or somebody is, where it's not fair.

• 40:02Speaker 00

  Someone's too good.

• 40:03Speaker 01

You, man, you got somebody who, yo, he played college ball, we in middle school. We playing twenty-one, because you, you, you're not finna get your duke off on us.

• 40:15Speaker 01

You know, or somebody grown, like, we, we, it will be some grown dude who supposed to be in the league, but liquor, liquor got him. And now he out there schooling, he out there teaching everybody how this really go, why he, why he should have been in the league. And he, and, and he playing twenty-one, he got, he got, he can put a, a stipulation on his own, so, I ain't, I ain't even gonna be in the paint.

• 40:41Speaker 01

I'm from outside, I'm, everything outside. Saying, then that's how you end up playing twenty-one, and you wanna tip him out back, but he ain't missing. He is not, I'm telling you, he, and, and he, and he calling you, don't come back here with me.

• 40:57Speaker 01

So, I've seen a lot of great shooters, uh, for years, like, I know Steph is, do, do, do you remember Thunder Dan?

• 41:05Speaker 00

  Yeah, of course, Dan Marley.

• 41:06Speaker 01

So, Thunder Dan Marley was shooting, him and, um, the Rifleman and Reggie Miller, it's like, they forget all these long, and he just doing it more.

• 41:17Speaker 00

  What about Mad Max?

• 41:19Speaker 01

Mad Max, you know, Mario, Ellie, and then, um, uh, what's my man, oh, got all the rings.

• 41:25Speaker 00

You wanna go crazy, what is it, the, the Serbian guy who was nasty? Zaza Petri, no, something Petrovic?

• 41:34Speaker 01

  Um, what was my man?

• 41:35Speaker 00

And then he passed away tragically or something like that, remember what I'm talking about? But he was on the Nets, and he put up like a forty ball.

• 41:41Speaker 01

Look, look, look what Thunder Dan is shooting from.

• 41:43Speaker 00

  Yeah, no, it was crazy.

• 41:45Speaker 01

  Logo.

• 41:45Speaker 00

That's it. You know who else is dirty? Chris Mullin.

• 41:49Speaker 01

Chris, yeah, Chris Mullin, but see, this is the thing, they forget about these people because Steph does it more.

• 41:57Speaker 00

It's, the game changed also in that, like, the, the three-point shot wasn't as big a deal back in the day.

• 42:04Speaker 01

  But it was nasty.

• 42:05Speaker 00

Yeah, he's filthy. Yeah, he's filthy.

• 42:08Speaker 01

Thunder Dan was crazy, man. Chris Mullin was insane.

• 42:12Speaker 00

Yeah, nasty, nasty. I went to his basketball camp. In the city? Yeah. Really? Yeah. But he's a city kid. He went to St. John's.

• 42:19Speaker 01

That's the single greatest, um, team that

• 42:24Speaker 00

  Never did nothing?

• 42:24Speaker 01

That was assembled, that never did, because they coached mess them up. Man, they, they had, Golden State had everybody, bro.

• 42:31Speaker 00

There was, it was Chris Mullin, was it?

• 42:34Speaker 01

  Weber.

• 42:35Speaker 00

  But Hardaway.

• 42:36Speaker 01

  Hardaway, Chris Mullin, Hardaway.

• 42:38Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 42:39Speaker 01

They, they had a squad. Their squad was insane, man. Coach, man.

• 42:44Speaker 00

Why didn't anything happen with them?

• 42:46Speaker 01

The coach, the coach, man, the coach, the coach sucked, man. Coach sucked.

• 42:50Speaker 00

How'd you end up being a Knicks fan?

• 42:52Speaker 01

  Man, Patrick knew it.

• 42:54Speaker 00

  But like

• 42:55Speaker 01

  Came from Georgetown.

• 42:56Speaker 00

But you were a big Georgetown fan?

• 42:57Speaker 01

  Yes, who wasn't?

• 42:59Speaker 00

  That was black.

• 42:59Speaker 01

  That was black.

• 43:00Speaker 00

So this is My dad was a Georgetown fan. What was it, John Thompson? So John Thompson wouldn't, uh, he wouldn't put white guys on the team?

• 43:09Speaker 01

No, it just wasn't a white guy.

• 43:16Speaker 00

This is what my racist ass uncle just said. This is what racist ass uncle just said. How is there a team in Washington DC that's no white players?

• 43:24Speaker 01

It's like Texas, it's like West Texas.

• 43:28Speaker 00

No, but it was Georgetown and like AI was there.

• 43:31Speaker 01

Man, Georgetown was crazy. And this is when, this is when Ewing

• 43:36Speaker 00

The jerseys were crazy too. That was the best jersey.

• 43:39Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Remember the starter jackets?

• 43:42Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 43:42Speaker 01

Starter jackets was insane. And this was when Pat had the part down the middle.

• 43:47Speaker 00

  Look, the shaved in.

• 43:48Speaker 01

And then it was, man, then we was like, we was waiting to see where Pat was going. And Pat went to the Knicks, he was like, hell yeah. And then he had the Adidas, the Adidas that was dope.

• 43:59Speaker 00

  High ass, like super chunky.

• 44:01Speaker 01

They, they, not the, not his own shoe, the Ewings. When he had the first pair Adidas, the, um, the orange and, um, blue ones, the, the Nick colors. His, the first pair Adidas was nap, like, look at Pat, man. At Georgetown.

• 44:15Speaker 00

That's not the Georgetown jersey though. The one that was gray.

• 44:17Speaker 01

I don't know what that one is.

• 44:19Speaker 00

It was like gray and black.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 44:21Speaker 00

  Over here, doesn't it?

• 44:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:24Speaker 00

  Yeah, John Thompson.

• 44:25Speaker 03

My dad was a Georgetown fan too. Was that just like?

• 44:27Speaker 00

That was a black thing, I think. Cause like Duke kinda felt like the white team or whatever and then Georgetown felt like the blacks.

• 44:34Speaker 01

Even though Duke had some, had nasty, like it was, they had some nasty players over there. Duke had some nasty.

• 44:42Speaker 00

  Yeah, Grant Hill was filthy.

• 44:43Speaker 01

Oh, was he? Grant Hill was.

• 44:48Speaker 00

Like, he, he's a guy, like, if he doesn't have the ankle issues in the league, that's basically like LeBron before LeBron.

• 44:53Speaker 01

My, my fondest memory of Grant Hill was, um, TSU, Texas Southern University was in the, was in the final, was in the, the tournament. And I'd never get number 55, whatever his name is, they up, I don't know why TSU is up, they hit a, do hit a three pointer. And Grant Hill is kinda like coasting, like, ah, you know, I ain't even did nothing yet. And literally dude hit a shot and he's scooting back like, yeah. And, and I'm sitting there like, no, don't say nothing to him. Let, let sleeping dog man. And then the very next play.

• 45:34Speaker 01

It's like, I don't know who threw this ball to Grant Hill, but he dunked, like he can't, like he fell from the rafters. And dunk and swung over in front of the TSU cheerleaders was like, y'all know I'm going to the league, right?

• 45:51Speaker 01

Went on some insane type of run, like, yo, man, why y'all messing with this man?

• 45:56Speaker 00

  Oh, my God.

• 45:58Speaker 01

He was insane. He was insane with his box.

• 46:03Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 46:05Speaker 01

Duke and Kansas. But it, but just think, man, how many great players, if Jay wouldn't have had the motorcycle accident, then, and if, if, um.

• 46:14Speaker 00

I beat Jay one on one.

• 46:19Speaker 01

  In what?

• 46:20Speaker 00

  Basketball.

• 46:23Speaker 01

  On the computer?

• 46:28Speaker 00

Jay challenged me. He challenged me one on one and I had to beat him.

• 46:32Speaker 03

Yeah, this is, this is a real thing, man. It's crazy, unfortunately.

• 46:35Speaker 00

I had to beat him. I mean, we had a meet.

• 46:38Speaker 01

What Jay are we talking about?

• 46:40Speaker 00

I showed up in a Maryland jersey. I took off the Maryland jersey. I'm in the North Carolina jersey.

• 46:50Speaker 02

  You gotta set the stage.

• 46:53Speaker 01

What is, what is really happening there? Look at this defense. I'm gonna cook you.

• 46:59Speaker 00

Look at, look at lockdown, look at this lockdown. Lucky ass bank shot. Fuck out of here, what's a bank shot from 12 feet?

• 47:07Speaker 01

I'm mad at Jay even sweating.

• 47:09Speaker 00

Like, you gotta sweat against me, I'm up 6-4, mind you. Look at me, I'm up. So I let him get back in the game.

• 47:16Speaker 02

What, what did it start at?

• 47:17Speaker 00

No, it started 0-0, I let him get back in the game. That's just, look at, look at, foul, that's offensive. Offensive foul. Listen, now he's just going straight to the cup, he doesn't have confidence in the jumper anymore. Right, because I took that away from him. Right? And the game gets-

• 47:34Speaker 01

Because, you see how you just on your toes?

• 47:36Speaker 00

But look at, look at that D, it's lockdown.

• 47:38Speaker 01

  He had a Mozak accident.

• 47:40Speaker 00

I'm, I'm exhausted. I'm so tired, never been this tired in my entire life.

• 47:44Speaker 01

Because you come, because you come up on your toes, that's when they cross, I'm gonna cook you.

• 47:48Speaker 00

Look, I'm in front of him though. Look at him, and now he's crying about a foul. This is my, this is my paint right here, you're not coming into it.

• 47:57Speaker 01

  Look at this.

• 47:57Speaker 00

  And I'm there.

• 47:58Speaker 01

And you there. Yeah, I'm, I'm gonna give you-

• 48:00Speaker 00

Give me that ball! Give me that ball!

• 48:04Speaker 02

  You scraping for heads?

• 48:07Speaker 00

If this is a real one-on-one game, you know that's just my ball right there.

• 48:10Speaker 02

  Jay's monologue.

• 48:11Speaker 00

Come on, man. So Jay trying to do some bullshit right here, look at this push off. Look at this push off, there's some net, look at this. Look, look at that push.

• 48:19Speaker 02

  Yo, you hacking him.

• 48:22Speaker 00

  Look at him!

• 48:24Speaker 02

When do you get the ball?

• 48:26Speaker 00

Yo, I'm yelling at them on the side.

• 48:31Speaker 00

He touched the ball, don't get the fuck out the way, let me get that board.

• 48:36Speaker 01

Why do you have on no Carolina shirt?

• 48:38Speaker 00

Because I was trying to get in his head, I showed up in Maryland and then North Carolina, two biggest rivals.

• 48:44Speaker 00

Look how sweaty he is, man. I'm not falling for any pump fakes, nothing. His shoes are breaking down. He wore stockings, like he knew he was gonna have a real war out there.

• 48:55Speaker 01

Do you have, what you have on-

• 48:56Speaker 00

On your ankles. I got ankle braces, bro. I'm playing against an NBA player. That was a lucky ass shot.

• 49:03Speaker 00

This is where, this is where he gets a little too cocky. And one thing I always say is, don't get cocky with me. You know what I mean? Be grateful, be humble. You gotta be grateful, you gotta be humble. If you get cocky with me, horrible things could happen. So he gets a little cocky, sees the cameras are out there. And, you know, he gets, he gets. He goes, he's never played in front of cameras. He never played in front of cameras, bro. And he, he gets back on the motorcycle. I told him, I said, don't get back on the bike. Oh my god. Look at what he tries to do to me. Disrespect me in front of my family. Look at he tries to, look, I, first of all, I'm locked in. I know every move he's about to do.

• 49:38Speaker 00

Throws it off my head and tries to pull up. Worst thing you ever did in your life!

• 49:44Speaker 02

  Oh, if he hit that?

• 49:46Speaker 00

I knew I was gonna miss.

• 49:49Speaker 00

I knew I was gonna miss. Hold on, I knew I was gonna miss, hold on. I get the board, I get the board and now I'm setting him up. Now I'm setting him up. Let me slow him down. Let me slow him down here. Boom! See you go!

• 50:07Speaker 00

  Pull up!

• 50:10Speaker 00

Now look at me looking at him right here. Look at me, look at that.

• 50:17Speaker 00

  Look at that!

• 50:20Speaker 00

  Look at that!

• 50:32Speaker 00

Is the game over? It's game over, game is seven. The game was to seven, what the? Of course!

• 50:39Speaker 00

  Of course, game over.

• 50:41Speaker 02

  Bro.

• 50:42Speaker 00

That's it. Now, I will say he gave me six points to start.

• 50:47Speaker 00

So I just had to score one.

• 50:48Speaker 01

  Then you got.

• 50:49Speaker 00

  I got my trophy.

• 50:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:51Speaker 00

Come on, Dirk, you need a trophy. Who's that guy run?

• 50:55Speaker 01

Who was this guy in the back that's just working out?

• 50:57Speaker 00

He just witnessed the greatest basketball game of his entire life.

• 51:01Speaker 01

  On the treadmill.

• 51:01Speaker 00

Yep. His kids are gonna ask him, what's the greatest?

• 51:04Mark Gagnon?

Spotted him six points. All he had to score was one.

• 51:06Speaker 00

I just had to score one, he had to score seven.

• 51:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 51:09Speaker 00

But that was his, his, not mine. I, I wanted to play a straight up game.

• 51:14Mark Gagnon?

He took it to six, six on him.

• 51:16Speaker 01

  You got cooked, Jay.

• 51:17Speaker 00

  He got cooked.

• 51:18Speaker 01

He said, I hate that for you, because I'm telling you, if it's me, and I'm playing against somebody, they give me six, we go into seven, I get the ball first, I'm cooking you. Like, I'm, I'm, we're playing, it's gonna, I'm gonna take that win. I'm gonna take that win all day long.

• 51:32Speaker 00

  That's what I said.

• 51:33Speaker 01

Hey, take the win. You, you brought, you brought these rules into it? Got nothing to do with me.

• 51:40Speaker 00

  I didn't ask for that.

• 51:41Mark Gagnon?

  You almost lost, though.

• 51:42Speaker 00

And I made it interesting. I made it interesting. I understand television. I understand entertainment. Why people would be invested.

• 51:49Speaker 01

  I made it game seven.

• 51:50Speaker 00

That's it. It had to be that.

• 51:51Speaker 01

Yes. I agree. And, and, great conversation.

• 51:58Speaker 00

  Mean and jolly, man.

• 52:00Speaker 01

It is ridiculous, man. It is.

• 52:03Speaker 00

So that was the greatest sporting event I've ever witnessed.

• 52:05Mark Gagnon?

  That was it.

• 52:06Speaker 00

  That was mine.

• 52:06Speaker 01

That was it. That was mine.

• 52:11Speaker 00

All right, guys, I'm gonna be honest with you. For a long time, I was running my health on vapes. Don't do that. I felt off, I just pushed through it, tired all the time. That's just life. Something weird going on with my body, probably nothing. I was out here doing full self-diagnosis based on absolutely zero information, like a toddler with a WebMD account. And the crazy part is, that's most people. Most people have no idea what's actually happening inside their body. They just adjust, compensate, pretend. So here's the thing about summer. It exposes you. You're outside, you're moving, you're at barbecues, eating stuff you know you shouldn't, staying up late, sweating through everything you own.

• 52:57Speaker 00

And whatever your body has been quietly dealing with all year, it shows up. The fatigue hits different in the heat. Recovery takes longer than it should. You're exhausted after stuff that used to feel easy. And instead of asking why, most of us just go, hmm, and keep going. But having it handled is not the same as knowing what's going on. Function gives you 160 plus lab tests a year. We're talking about magnesium, iron, hormones, all the markers that actually explain why you feel the way you feel. When something's off, you see it, not guess at it, not cope with it. You see it. And that's what actually knowing your body looks like. Wild concept, I know. So, check your health the way that we do.

• 53:39Speaker 00

160 plus lab tests a year for $365. That's a dollar a day. And stop guessing. Join at functionhealth.com/flagrant and use the code FLAGRANT25 for a $25 credit. Now let's get back to the show. BlueChew did it, bro. They did it. They did it. They upgraded. They got BlueChew Gold. That boner's coming 15 minutes or less. I could tell you all the info about it. It doesn't really matter to you. What matters to you is that you're heart in 15 minutes or less. All the other stuff, we're talking about like 30 minutes. A lot can happen in 30 minutes. A lot can happen. You don't even know if you're getting laid 30 minutes before you're getting laid. Right? So now you're taking this pill, you don't even know what's gonna happen.

• 54:22Speaker 00

15 minutes before you get laid, you know 100% you're getting laid. So they did it. They knocked it out of the park. So that's what you're gonna do all summer. You're very welcome. You buy two months of BlueChew Gold, you get the third for free with the promo code FLAGRANT. That promo code is FLAGRANT. We thank BlueChew for sponsoring the pod and the bedroom.

• 54:51Speaker 01

I thought the Knicks was gonna win the championship in 94. This thing, I'm the only person in the whole Texas prison that's going for the Knicks.

• 54:59Speaker 00

  Are they playing the game?

• 55:00Speaker 01

Yeah, we watched the game on TV. Like, and I am, it's some, it's some, we was doing well and then we wasn't. And, and I remember when, when Houston won and I'm coming into the cafeteria. It's like, I knew something was up because the cafeteria's always loud. It's like the cafeteria is quiet.

• 55:20Speaker 00

Just they know what you're going through.

• 55:21Speaker 01

There is, it, no. They're waiting on me.

• 55:25Speaker 01

Like, it's totally quiet. And I come around the corner and soon as I walk up to the camera.

• 55:35Speaker 01

Even the people that was in line with me, they were just oddly quiet. Like, you always talking, why you just so quiet right now? Waiting to get into this camp. It was like a celebration.

• 55:47Speaker 01

That I, man, it was crazy.

• 55:51Speaker 00

Cause they knew how much shit you were gonna talk.

• 55:52Speaker 01

Oh, I was talking so reckless.

• 55:56Speaker 01

I was talking reckless. It, it, but it's saying like that with the Cowboys. Like I, in the nineties, I hated the Cowboys, I still hate the Cowboys. But when they would win, Cowboy fans, it was terrible. But when they would lose, I had so many shenanigans.

• 56:10Speaker 00

  So satisfying.

• 56:10Speaker 01

Like, it's like, yo, and then, this is when you know, when you know that you done got mad about something. When you locked up and they, they rumors of mine, and you tell them, I, well, why don't you send Troy Aikman a commissary slip? So he can send you some money since you love him so much.

• 56:27Speaker 01

You, you just, you like, you something that you know that's not gonna happen. But you just so mad, man.

• 56:31Speaker 00

What, what were the politics with watching sports in prison? Was there ever a situation where it's like, okay, these two games are on right now? And one group gets to decide which, which game is watched?

• 56:43Speaker 01

And you, you think that we have cable? Like, it's one game that was ever playing on local TV.

• 56:50Speaker 00

  That's what you guys watching.

• 56:52Speaker 01

And, and you, in, and when you in a, a block where they have three TVs in different part. They have two TV in each part, so it's three TV, three parts, three TV. One TV is designated for Hispanics. That's their TV.

• 57:11Speaker 00

  Telemundo, that's it.

• 57:13Speaker 01

Then you have sports and all type of general stuff, but then you have the movie TV, like, people who are not watching regular TV. Now, the crazy thing is Denise Austin would be on all three TVs in the morning.

• 57:26Speaker 00

She's what, like a news reporter or something like that?

• 57:28Speaker 01

  No, she's a, in, um, she's a robotic instructor.

• 57:33Speaker 00

  Hilarious.

• 57:37Speaker 01

And then, we couldn't wait till Kailin, they came on. It's the only time that you see all the blacks in, in, watching Kailin, they in the message. They like, no, there's no seat.

• 57:52Speaker 03

  And your inner thighs.

• 57:56Speaker 03

He's mad at a bunch of dudes in the morning watching.

• 57:59Speaker 01

Not one of them doing aerobics. One of us doing aerobics. This is the greatest white woman of all time in prison. This is the greatest white woman that this is, this is a savior.

• 58:13Speaker 01

In prison, like, and this is, this is recent. This is, this, this is not really her, her most exotic outfit.

• 58:23Speaker 01

This is tame? Yeah, this is very tame. This is, she not even all the way tanned just yet.

• 58:30Speaker 01

You knew Denise's seasons? Yeah, but this Denise Austin was crazy. Oh, okay. Trying to tell you. Okay, yeah, yeah. Trying to, you see the tan? See that exotic pink outfit?

• 58:45Speaker 01

  Golden locks.

• 58:48Speaker 02

Just getting the tide coming in?

• 58:50Speaker 01

I wonder if she knew how popular she was in prison? Goodness, she probably never did, but Denise Austin was amazing.

• 58:59Speaker 02

Look how he's sitting, he's getting flashbacks right now.

• 59:02Speaker 01

It's insane. It's like, if you did, it was like, I, I forget, I remember we was on lockdown one time and the TV came on and the, and the, um, the CO came in and changing from Denise Austin and we lost it.

• 59:18Speaker 01

Why did you change? We, we locked up, just being me, just like.

• 59:22Speaker 01

He just, yo, yo, what's going on in the world? He put it on like C-SPAN. Like, he's like, yo, we want to kill him.

• 59:30Speaker 02

  This was every morning?

• 59:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:31Speaker 02

Just because on the local channel?

• 59:33Speaker 01

  Yeah, this, this channel eight.

• 59:35Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 59:35Speaker 01

PBS, like Denise Austin was insane.

• 59:37Speaker 02

That's so funny. But would there ever just be random stuff on the TV? Like, would be like, like a high school basketball championship and you're like, all right, we're watching this now?

• 59:45Speaker 01

High school basketball, I mean, this ain't LeBron era. They wasn't showing no high school. Yeah, you're doing like, you got the. News.

• 59:52Speaker 00

I imagine there's some sitcoms, though. You probably watch.

• 59:55Speaker 01

We watched that type of stuff, but did you just say, how old are you?

• 59:59Speaker 00

  I'm 29.

• 1:00:00Speaker 01

Oh, no, that's why you think high school was televised. That happened with LeBron. It was never a high school game ever watched on television before.

• 1:00:11Speaker 00

What about like in Texas, a high school football championship game? Not even that?

• 1:00:17Speaker 01

  It's not coming on TV.

• 1:00:18Speaker 00

  Because that was huge.

• 1:00:20Speaker 01

  That's not coming on TV.

• 1:00:21Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 1:00:22Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 1:00:22Speaker 01

That's, that's, you gotta go view that. We was under, we was under that, that type of regime where you would view things with your naked eye.

• 1:00:32Speaker 00

  Go ahead, real life.

• 1:00:33Speaker 01

Unlike people now, you know, we, we spend a significant amount of money on these shows to do yonder.

• 1:00:41Speaker 00

Oh, because you don't want people on their phone?

• 1:00:43Speaker 01

We don't want people on their phone.

• 1:00:43Speaker 00

So you do that for every show?

• 1:00:45Speaker 01

  Every show.

• 1:00:46Speaker 00

Every show that you do on the road, you're yondering. Have you found a difference?

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:50Speaker 00

  Really?

• 1:00:51Speaker 01

If you pay attention until you get to like, um, I think I've had, during the, during the theaters, my, my, the, the worst thing about it is how people are conditioned to comedy now. You know, they, they conditioned to people doing crowd work.

• 1:01:09Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:01:10Speaker 01

They conditioned to having, um, seeing eight people before you come out. You know, they conditioned to these things.

• 1:01:17Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:01:18Speaker 01

So they show up like, and then you have people who don't know you. They coming with somebody else or whatever. So they don't know that you do these long stories with these points. And then they come and they, or they conditioned to people doing their old stuff in front of new ones.

• 1:01:39Speaker 00

I would figure your audience by now is conditioned to like what you do.

• 1:01:43Speaker 01

Nah, it's still, it's still, because the audience is still building. There's a lot of these people haven't seen me live.

• 1:01:48Speaker 00

So they see one story on social media or something. They're like, I gotta go check.

• 1:01:52Speaker 01

And what's the craziest thing? This is the other thing that I think people are conditioned crazy for.

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

It's people that have seen me on TikTok. It's people that have seen me on Instagram. People have seen me on Facebook, but they don't know there's a whole special. Because they, they watching clips.

• 1:02:10Speaker 00

That is how most. Media is consumed now.

• 1:02:12Speaker 01

And and not watching the whole special, which is crazy to me. It's a crazy thing. I saw this, but you didn't see the whole story. So I I don't. I don't get or somebody a comment in a space. And they don't know the whole story. You you you don't know the whole entire thing. You just comment on just this right here, which is. I don't know. I I I guess humans are declining at a rapid rate of with with their attention span.

• 1:02:42Speaker 00

I think that's that's possibly. I think it's definitely true. I also think that is like the one. I don't want to say downfall, but like the the one potential negative to having stuff on the different social media platforms. Is you don't know how long they're going to consume of it. You don't know what parts of it they're going to consume. Whereas like when we were younger, like I remember when Patrice's elephant in the room came out and like. We had like a watch party for the shit. Like we just sat down and watched it. Like I remember. You know, even like listening to Delirious on cassette and it was just like this one experience where we just sat down, me and my dad, and we just like listened to this. Audio cassette.

• 1:03:21Speaker 02

  It was social.

• 1:03:22Speaker 00

Yeah. So there. So I think now. Like, maybe there is a version. This really surprises me coming from you because I think you have such a specific style. I would think that there would be an expectation set up with the audience for that long form story. Especially as you're doing the specials, like there's going to be a cohesive theme in this like. That's shocking to me that there or maybe you're growing at a rate where you have so many new people coming in.

• 1:03:51Speaker 01

  It's the new people.

• 1:03:52Speaker 00

That's probably it. Your OGs know what you're doing and they have the expectation for it.

• 1:03:56Speaker 01

It I can tell them because it's the people that's on time.

• 1:04:01Speaker 01

  These people know that.

• 1:04:02Speaker 02

  You need the whole story.

• 1:04:03Speaker 01

I got I got one person that's coming out in front of me. Doing fifteen or twenty. And then I'm coming to do an hour and a half.

• 1:04:12Speaker 00

I I I think that this is something that's kind of like missed a bit. Like when we do the show.

• 1:04:20Speaker 00

You, I think everybody has to decide what that amount of time is. But for me, I think that like hour fifteen, maybe hour thirty, I think is like a real nice amount of time, but I mean that for the whole show. Like if you're doing an hour thirty, I think it's smart, you don't have four guys going up before you, because by the time you go up, these people, let's say they're already drinking or doing something like that, they're an hour into the show and then you're gonna do another hour thirty.

• 1:04:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:47Speaker 00

I don't think that's the best experience for the people that came.

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

So, certain places, I do by myself. Like when I come to New York, when I'm at the Beacon, it's just me.

• 1:04:57Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 1:04:57Speaker 01

No other person. You know, when I'm in Atlanta, just me. Detroit is like, Chicago, just, it's certain spots, I'm just doing just me, because I want the whole entire time.

• 1:05:09Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 1:05:10Speaker 01

Now, when I have somebody, it's crazy for, let me say, the last three, four shows, right? I witnessed somebody coming in, like I was in Miami. How do you come in and I'm, and I look at the clock, I just look at the clock, I'm at fifty-seven minutes. How do you come in at a show and I'm at fifty-seven minutes, but in your mind, you think, oh, it's gonna be other people, and then we catch him at the end? And, um, somebody came, they, I'm forty-five minutes in, and they in the front. I have the room dark, pitch black, with a spotlight for a reason, not because I, not because I want to. I don't want to be distracted by people with all of movement.

• 1:05:54Speaker 01

And then I want the room totally still, like a plate, cuz I'm, I'm not doing slapstick form, I'm not doing punchline setup, punchline setup, I'm not, that's not what I'm doing. So I'm doing, I'm taking people on another ride, so I have to have, um, the...

• 1:06:12Speaker 01

Full attention, so I locked the phones up.

• 1:06:15Speaker 00

But don't, I wouldn't like undercut yourself. You do have a lot of punchlines and you do have a lot of jokes. It's not, there are certain people who I think, you're not doing a traditional like here's my setup misdirect. But you're not one of the guys that doesn't have jokes built in. And I think, yeah, I just don't want you to describe yourself in a way that's maybe not, not as elite, I think, as you are. There are guys who are doing long form and it's kind of like stand up, but also like storytelling. And there's a lower expectation for funny, I think, for that.

• 1:06:51Speaker 01

When I see some people's, what they call storytelling, I just be sitting there like.

• 1:06:57Speaker 00

And again, it's like, I'm not, I'm not trying to knock anybody, but it's like, there is a way to tell stories and also have them be hilarious.

• 1:07:04Speaker 01

Yeah. I kind of figured that part out.

• 1:07:07Speaker 00

  I think so.

• 1:07:08Speaker 02

Have you ever had someone interrupt in a moment of the story? That's really important for tension? Like, have you been building up specifically? And you're like, I'm about to come into like this really important part and then someone fucks it up?

• 1:07:20Speaker 03

I feel like it happened in the special, that one lady that called out.

• 1:07:23Speaker 01

Yeah. She was, she was being disruptive, what was that, Mondays, right? She was being disruptive before I even got to it. So I, it wasn't even, it had nothing to do with what I was doing. She was drunk and got into it with her husband. So in this, while we taping the special.

• 1:07:43Speaker 00

  Come on, dude.

• 1:07:44Speaker 01

I went back and started over from where I was, I was at. And we put that clip out. You didn't see it in the, in the actual special, but we put that clip out because I wanted to keep it. I'm like, yo, keep that part, just for content. But I've had the, the spotlight guy mess up.

• 1:08:08Speaker 00

  You got one job, bro.

• 1:08:09Speaker 01

  Like one, like.

• 1:08:10Speaker 00

  You got one job?

• 1:08:12Speaker 01

I think he was too engulfed in the story. Like, and forgot, and not thinking I'mma move. He thinking like, he just like, he just took his hand off, and like, what is it? And then when I went over here and I stopped him like, yo, I need you over here for this part.

• 1:08:32Speaker 00

  I was listening.

• 1:08:34Speaker 01

It's your fault. So it's been, you know, it's been times where or somebody would try to hollow out something before I would say it.

• 1:08:44Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:08:45Speaker 01

But you don't know what I'm going to say. You don't know the story. So and I would say, no, that's. And then I, you know, sometime I stop and just, I don't like doing crowd work, but I'm very, very good. I've been good at it from. I want, I'mma do a, I'mma do a show, what I'mma show and I'mma call it, this is so easy.

• 1:09:09Speaker 01

It's the easiest thing. It's like if, if I come out doing crowd work, that means I don't want to perform.

• 1:09:16Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:09:16Speaker 01

Like I have, like in my mind, I don't want to do it. So I'm like, alright.

• 1:09:21Speaker 00

But you shouldn't do it if you don't want to.

• 1:09:23Speaker 01

No, thi- this is the thing of how easy, this is like when I used to host, you know, I'm coming out, I know I'm, I'mma say this, but I'm not really getting into no material because I'mma, I'm setting the room up for somebody else. It's not for me.

• 1:09:35Speaker 00

  Right, right.

• 1:09:35Speaker 01

See what I'm saying? But I can see how these, these guys like, man, um, this crowd work, I say, so this is funny that the crowd work guys, nobody is blaming anybody for stealing their material because what is the, what is the, what is the material? So y'all together?

• 1:09:53Speaker 01

Where you work at? I know y'all messing around and they're like, like what, what is, it all starts the same. It's no unique way to, to. Look at, look at this shirt. It's, what is the, so nobody's stealing, this is nobody's stealing. Okay, I would love to see the dude come back in the room like.

• 1:10:13Speaker 00

I asked him what his shirt looked like first. Yeah, yeah, I hear you.

• 1:10:18Speaker 01

Look at him, look at him out there stealing material, asking people where they work at.

• 1:10:24Speaker 00

He, he did my how'd you guys meet thing. I will say that like guys who, guys like Patrice is a very different.

• 1:10:34Speaker 00

Type of, in my opinion, crowd work because it's not like, hey, what do you guys got going on? It's, I'm gonna impose my will and my line of thinking on you. And you are a vessel for that, right? So it's like, you might actually be giving me friction, right? And that is a useful tool within this design. Like, this is how I feel about the world and I'm putting it on you. You work at a car dealership? Like, okay, who gives a fuck if you work at the car dealership? You know what I mean? But I think there are different, I think you see a lot of like, crowd work slop on the internet and you're just like, what the fuck is going on here? But like, when I think of, when I think of like, you know, guys who are like, really good and like, elite at it,

• 1:11:18Speaker 00

it's this interesting way of like, almost like, setting up the audience and like, baiting them into something that kind of already exists. DL's nice at it?

• 1:11:26Speaker 01

DL was the, DL was the pinnacle of it. Him, Robin Harris, and they would get ridiculed for, oh, all he got is crowd work.

• 1:11:36Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:11:36Speaker 01

So this is another era of comedy, of this, like, and who else was good at it? Was, was, um, Joe Torre. You understand? Joe Torre was good at, was good at crowd work. But that was, that was the, the ridicule was all he had was crowd work. So they developed a long show, but DL, DL would take the last 10 minutes of his show and he would do the whole front row.

• 1:12:03Speaker 00

  And just mess with people.

• 1:12:05Speaker 01

And the craziest thing that he would take all these people, go through all this stuff, and then tie the last one.

• 1:12:14Speaker 00

  Into the first.

• 1:12:14Speaker 01

To the first one. And you would be like, that's, that's a, it's amazing to watch.

• 1:12:21Speaker 00

There's levels to shit, that's what I'm saying. Like, there's levels to storytelling, there's levels to all different parts of the craft. And I think the most like, elite versions, you start to like, blend all these things together. And when it becomes this like, seamless blend, you know, like, for example, like, impressions. Like, I love like, hearing impressions. I think it's like, I like, if you did an impression right now, I'd be like, tell me more, keep doing it. But I don't, I don't like, consider it like... Elite stand up, like it's, you know what I mean? It's just like a sound.

• 1:12:49Speaker 01

What? You don't consider that anything? What?

• 1:12:53Speaker 00

  But.

• 1:12:54Speaker 01

So my, this is my, I'm glad you said it.

• 1:12:57Speaker 00

  But, but let me say.

• 1:12:58Speaker 01

  Go ahead.

• 1:12:59Speaker 00

If you can do the impressions and there's a joke in the impression, or you're creating this like, this amazing world, where there are these like, like Greer Barnes is one of my favorite to watch, and he can build these worlds. I'm like, the impression is just a tool in this fucking magical thing that you just built for these people. That to me, I'm like, okay, that's stand up. But if you're on one of these like cruise ships or something like that, or you go see these like, you know, and it's just like, here's what Bill Clinton sounds like. Here's what Christopher Walken sounds like. Here's what Trump sounds like. It's like, if I hear another fucking Trump impression, it's like.

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

So the impression thing to me,

• 1:13:39Speaker 01

if you doing impressions of somebody that I don't know, and you can, you can get me engulfed in it. Like you say, you doing your uncle. I've never heard your uncle before. And then you do an impression of him, then later on, I actually see some of your uncle, I'm like, yo, he had his spot, he had his uncle spot on.

• 1:13:55Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:13:56Speaker 01

But if you doing Denzel from Training Day.

• 1:13:59Speaker 00

  Exactly.

• 1:13:59Speaker 01

  I, I hate you.

• 1:14:03Speaker 01

Denzel was in a lot of movies. Why is it just, why is this the only one that you doing?

• 1:14:07Speaker 00

I'm not even upset if you do Denzel on Training Day, but like, what is the bit? What is the joke?

• 1:14:11Speaker 01

It's just you doing Denzel in Training Day, or you doing Burning Man. It's like when somebody does Jay-Z and they do, what's wrong with current Jay-Z? I ain't heard Jay-Z do that. I ain't heard him do that laugh. Like, but twice. But Jay-Z never said nothing else?

• 1:14:28Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:14:28Speaker 01

It's like you, you, you keeping them in this frame, but that's the only, like LL, when the last time LL licked his lips? It was like, why is that the, the go? I mean, I watched him on, um, in it, on what's the show that he on? I watched him on CSI. He never licked his lips on there.

• 1:14:44Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:14:47Speaker 01

So it's like you, it's, it's like you kind of.

• 1:14:53Speaker 01

It's like you cheating the game.

• 1:14:55Speaker 00

You're saying it's like, there's almost like a shared impression.

• 1:14:57Speaker 01

It's everybody doing the same joint.

• 1:15:00Speaker 00

Like, I see everybody doing an impression of Shane's Trump.

• 1:15:04Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:15:04Speaker 00

Like Shane Gillis did this Trump impression, and it kind of feels like everybody's just doing their version of his impression.

• 1:15:12Speaker 01

And that's, and that's one of the, that's one of the downfalls in stand-up, that being original in stand-up has become nonexistent, because somebody see, this is the thing.

• 1:15:25Speaker 00

You can recreate so much quicker, because you're seeing things on the internet constantly.

• 1:15:28Speaker 01

It's, but the desire, though, the desire to do, to see you make it, to see you make it at something, you get it, you get some followers or something, you go viral or something, that doesn't, my desire is not to do, to recreate what you did in my, in my voice.

• 1:15:46Speaker 00

  Oh.

• 1:15:46Speaker 01

  It's, that's the, man.

• 1:15:49Speaker 00

Ollie, we're gonna have a long discussion about this, my friends, because not everybody's desire is to do great art, some people's desire is just to be successful at a thing, and then they see what's successful, and they just repeat what is successful.

• 1:16:01Speaker 01

And that's the, that's the crazy, coming from being a, this is how I know that these guys are not students of comedy, because there was one Carol Burnett, there was one Don Rickles, there was one Carlin, there was one, um, um, Pryor, there was one Cosby, nobody was saying, "I'm gonna do my rendition of Red Fox, I'm doing my own, I'm doing my own thing," and everybody had their own voice, and they made their voice, they made their, their, their bones in their voice. Now, when I can sit back and you sound just like this person, or you doing this person, you doing exactly what they did.

• 1:16:40Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:16:40Speaker 01

You understand? That's, that's a, and it may be the, I'm the old man in the group that don't like, yo, what is, what, okay, when do you find your voice? When do you find who you are?

• 1:16:52Speaker 00

Takes time. I mean, you probably went through that, takes time to find it.

• 1:16:55Speaker 01

But the thing is, like, I'm not in a rush, I wasn't in a rush, I just had a, that, I guess, because I started, well, it's about to be 29 years for me, doing stand-up, so how I started. Is different, even the level of respect is different.

• 1:17:12Speaker 00

There's a thing that's happened, I think that, and the internet has probably like expedited this. But when I was coming up in stand-up, all the best guys, maybe outside of like a few outliers, were old. There were guys in their probably 40s, 50s. Like, these were older, you know, I'm starting in my 20s. So the expectation when I was starting was it takes 10 years to even know your voice. That was the thing like comics would always say when you ask advice, right? Be like, "Why, how do I find my voice?" or whatever it is. And like, your voice essentially is like, what is unique about you and what you want to talk about? And like, why are you different?

• 1:17:50Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:17:51Speaker 00

And I think what's happened with the internet is like, not only with comedy, with just like fucking seeing people on vacation. It just looks like everybody's living this great life. And I think you'll hear a lot of comics are like, "Oh, I gotta do crowd work to make it." It's like, you don't gotta do nothing. You could just do what you want to do, find your, like, why are you sad? Like, why are you whining? You see all these comics whining like, "Oh, I gotta do crowds." You don't gotta do nothing. If you don't want to do that, don't do it. If you do want to do it, then do it.

• 1:18:16Speaker 01

This is last night. I gotta, I gotta go, I gotta go on tour. Like, what is a tour? I think a lot of comics are sad in judging their career based upon things that's not really happening.

• 1:18:29Speaker 00

Ooh, what do you mean by that?

• 1:18:30Speaker 01

Oh, so let's dive into it. And I do this, and I do this subconsciously when I look at somebody doing something. And I just say, "Well, let me see actually what it is that's really happening." Not for myself to explain this to somebody who I know that's gonna come to me and talk about, "Well, I gotta go on tour." And then I was like, "Well, like who? Like, give me a person." And then they would give, I would look at people like, "Well, okay, so let me give you a person. You think this person's on tour because they put up a bunch of dates, okay? Put up a bunch of dates, but you didn't read these dates. You didn't read where these dates were at." You know what I'm saying? So somebody just going on bars, just all bars, it's really just really mics, glorified over mic.

• 1:19:12Speaker 01

And they doing it in different places, they just go in to do anything, they put it on their, their schedule, okay? Then you had these guys who... Put all these tour dates up and then I'm, I'm thinking I'm supporting a friend. Let me go see what they doing. I go to the club that they're doing.

• 1:19:28Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:19:29Speaker 01

And it's not their name. It's somebody else's name.

• 1:19:31Speaker 00

  They're opening.

• 1:19:32Speaker 01

But they're opening for their person, but they putting that on as their tour dates.

• 1:19:36Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:19:36Speaker 01

You know what I'm saying? Or somebody have a bunch of one nighters and they putting it on as a tour. I get it, man. The, the fake it till you make it thing, but that's not a tour. Touring is a lot different than what, my boy, he got a, Delay got a, a very good understanding of what touring was. Delay like, yo, I, I was, I went out with this person and I sat in that city for three days. And I did the comedy club with him.

• 1:20:01Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:02Speaker 01

Then I went on the road with Ali. We did four different places in three days.

• 1:20:10Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:10Speaker 01

  I'm exhausted.

• 1:20:11Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:11Speaker 01

I was like, oh, so you thought I was staying here?

• 1:20:14Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:14Speaker 01

No, I'm in Chicago, then I'm in Cleveland, then I'm in Pittsburgh.

• 1:20:20Speaker 00

  Right, yeah.

• 1:20:20Speaker 01

And we doing, we have a sound check and we have a run and then we back downstairs at three thirty to go catch another flight. And he's like, oh, no, no, this is insane. He said, I slept for two days after I was out.

• 1:20:32Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:32Speaker 01

I'm like, yeah, cause it's not the same. You, you're trying, touring. And I, and I'm like, well, how long you been doing it? And that lady told me six years. I said, what are you rushing for?

• 1:20:42Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:43Speaker 01

Like, what's the rush? You, you thinking, well, the class of comics that I'm, that I'm in, what's this class of?

• 1:20:49Speaker 00

Like, the feeling is that you see your peers and they're excelling and maybe there's something is working for them on social media. So like, you need to do it right in that moment as well. And I think there's a little bit, something is lost now that we had maybe when, I definitely had when I was younger. I'm sure you also had it, which is like, this is a marathon of a career and it's gonna take you a long time to achieve your dreams. I mean, I was doing comedy seventeen years before I did Madison Square Garden. You know what I mean? Like seventeen years.

• 1:21:17Speaker 01

And I still ain't been in Madison Square Garden and I've been doing it twenty nine years.

• 1:21:20Speaker 00

I think, I think, I think you got a garden, man. I think you easily got a garden in you.

• 1:21:25Speaker 01

Oh, how many people it hold?

• 1:21:26Speaker 00

I mean, it's a couple of different arrangements. You can get eighteen thousand in there, man. Hopefully. All right, guys, let's take a break for a second. You want that protein boost, but finding one that delivers real protein without excess calories and sugar has been nearly impossible. Most bars contain around 15 grams of protein while packing 300-plus calories and loads of sugar.

• 1:22:55Speaker 00

That formula stayed the same for decades until now. Introducing David, a protein bar that redefines what's possible. David delivers 28 grams of protein in just 150 calories with zero sugar. David is giving your body what it actually needs without the unnecessary fillers, and they are now available at Walmart with 40% more protein, 50% fewer calories than the leading protein bars. Anyway, the point being is like, there's different iterations of it, sure, but like, it feels like there's this immense pressure that like, especially young comics have, to do what is working, not do what they should be doing and what would make them feel fulfilled comedically. And maybe we didn't have that because there was less opportunities when we were coming up?

• 1:24:18Speaker 01

There was a lot of opportunities.

• 1:24:19Speaker 00

  Nah.

• 1:24:20Speaker 01

What's the opportunity that was, that's now that we didn't have then?

• 1:24:23Speaker 00

  The internet.

• 1:24:24Speaker 01

  That's it?

• 1:24:26Speaker 00

That's the biggest opportunity. Like, this is the greatest thing that's ever happened.

• 1:24:30Speaker 01

All the, most of the greats didn't start on the internet.

• 1:24:32Speaker 00

By, by, by opportunities, I meant like, there was exit, there was a few HBO specials, maybe a year. You had like a handful of Comedy Central half-hours.

• 1:24:40Speaker 01

  That wasn't the goal.

• 1:24:41Speaker 00

For some people. For you, it wasn't.

• 1:24:43Speaker 01

For mass majority of comics, that wasn't the goal. The goal was to be great comedians, because you can make a lot of money before the special. You can make a lot of money. It was people that I saw in comedy clubs that were making, I'd never seen them on TV. I saw them in the comedy club. The expectation was different. That people was actually going to, the, the, the, the club, built the market. Like, you know that to get in this club, you had to be funny. So, everybody I was going to see was gonna be, was gonna be funny. It's not like now to where, now with whoever being marketed.

• 1:25:27Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:25:27Speaker 01

The club has no, I'm just saying that we just trying to sell some liquor and some chicken wings.

• 1:25:33Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:25:33Speaker 01

Whatever this person's doing, who's ever, whatever audience they're bringing in here, I don't care if it's a magician, I don't care what it, but it's like. Some clubs just wasn't opening their doors for people that weren't elite.

• 1:25:46Speaker 00

And these are the clubs that to this day are the best clubs in the country.

• 1:25:50Speaker 01

  Yeah, and that's the thing.

• 1:25:52Speaker 00

They built a community, they have an audience, and there's like Comedy Works in Denver is one, like Salt Lake City Wise Guys, like SideSplitters in Tampa, there's one in that I'm messing up with right now, but like in, um, in Wisconsin.

• 1:26:06Speaker 02

  What, Comedy on State?

• 1:26:08Speaker 00

Comedy on State. There's one in Alabama, Star Dome or whatever, do you ever do that?

• 1:26:12Speaker 01

  I've done the Star Dome.

• 1:26:13Speaker 00

Star Dome, like, so there were these like iconic clubs that the club curated great talent so people could expect to go see it. And then there was the factories that essentially just like, I'm bringing somebody to fill the whole room and next week, nobody might be in this room. These people aren't coming for the brand of the club.

• 1:26:32Speaker 01

They're just a venue, it's like, and, and I get it, but then you like, well, I came up in Just Joking, Comedy Cafe in Houston. To come to Just Joking, you had to have it because the host had it. You gotta think.

• 1:26:49Speaker 02

  Same host every night?

• 1:26:50Speaker 01

No, over the, over the different years, the host, like you had Arne J was one of the hosts, then you had Lester Beers was one of the hosts, then you had, um, Bruce was one, Earthquake was one of the, it's like the host set the tone, like, man, you can't come in here and the host is crazy.

• 1:27:10Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:27:10Speaker 01

And to get on this stage, man, you gotta be, you gotta have it. And I remember sitting, like, I'm just joking, one of my fondest memories because Rodney is got named Rodney Winfield. He a great comic, um, out of St. Louis, uh, wore sailor's cap. And, uh, I'm talking about really, really good comic.

• 1:27:33Speaker 01

And he would sit on the edge of the bar. And when you would come offstage, if he liked you, he would say something to you. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, man. He's on Death Generation. Rodney was like, yeah, man. And you gotta hear his voice, because I'm finna do it. This is, this is, this is my favorite. Like, I don't do a lot of impressions, but this is Rodney. You would, you would get off the stage, and if he liked you, he'd say something to you. You come offstage, and he like, I'll tell you something. I'll tell you something. Ah, tonight, you are horrible.

• 1:28:14Speaker 01

And then you would, you would, every night, I remember the night that I got a compliment from him. The night I got a compliment. I came offstage, and he was like, about goddamn time. You, I'm talking about, man, tonight, you are amazing. I'm talking about, everything you did was perfect. It was stellar. One problem. Got one problem. I'm like, what? I did all that shit in 1974.

• 1:28:43Speaker 01

Then get your own goddamn one.

• 1:28:48Speaker 00

  Oh, that's a good impression.

• 1:28:59Speaker 01

  Talking to exorcist.

• 1:29:04Speaker 01

But Rodney, his most famous joke, when he was on, he was on the movie Talking Dirty at the Dark, with Martin and all them. It was a great movie. Black movie. You should, you should see it. Makes me cry when I think about.

• 1:29:21Speaker 00

  It's not Armageddon.

• 1:29:24Speaker 01

It's a black Armageddon. When he's about ugly people. He's about ugly people all run the same, you know? You follow ugly person home, I guarantee another ugly person has a.

• 1:29:37Speaker 01

But he, he, man, he would, he would just, he would just rip you every time if he liked you. Cause he wanted you to get better. You know, they don't, you don't get, you don't have that experience in stand up anymore. But it's comics, comics that out now that are stay, that I told them that they was terrible. And I did, when they was, when they was young, I was like, yo, man, this is the worst damn thing I ever seen. And then, but I'm trying to get you, if you think that you good at three years,

• 1:30:11Speaker 01

your, your career not gonna be as long as you think it is. Because you, you don't, you think that this, that it's no other place to go.

• 1:30:18Speaker 00

  Yep.

• 1:30:19Speaker 01

It's like, I say, like, Ali, when did you, I'm in an interview, dude say, when did you know you was funny? I said, I'm still trying. Because I'm still trying to get better. I'm still, I'm like, not that I support him all the time, but, cause he be on bullshit sometime. I'm like Floyd Mayweather. He still go to train. And as a boxer, you start the same way. It's no, you don't, you don't go in and start over. You start jabbing, and then the same, you do the same one, Steph Curry, I'm still shooting. This many, Jordans to Kobe, still working out the same way. Even after having championship, after having rings.

• 1:30:54Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:30:55Speaker 01

The, if it's, if you already satisfied with where you are.

• 1:30:59Speaker 00

  Yeah, you can't.

• 1:31:00Speaker 01

You'll never get, you'll never get, you, somebody told you that you was great at, at eight years? Wow.

• 1:31:08Speaker 00

There's a, wow. I think, I think that one of the tricky things now with like early success in any endeavor, but like definitely in stand up, is that uh, sometimes the audience can decide who you are before you get to find out who you are. And then, and that was one of the advantages that we definitely have, which is like, just do stand up in obscurity for years. So you'll have a choice whether to find out who you are. And then hopefully by the time the audience finds you, you're kind of solidified in who you are, what you wanna do, how you wanna push yourself. And that's harder, that's, that's hard. Like if you're three years in and like the whole world is coming for you and they wanna see it,

• 1:31:52Speaker 00

there's probably an expectation built up in you to go, oh, I'm gonna deliver them this. And I, I think, I don't know, at least for me, like, one of the things I've always tried to do is like, every time I did something, I wanna do something different the next time. And it scares me, and I think I suck at it initially when I saw it. And I'm like, okay, that's good, at least I'll work hard on this and try to get better. Instead of trying to like, repeat the thing that I just did before. But that's my own little, you know.

• 1:32:19Speaker 01

I remember when I, when I was in the clubs, I was doing, if I do six shows, I'm doing six different shows.

• 1:32:26Speaker 00

That's just insane. I hate, I hate it when they tell me these things.

• 1:32:30Speaker 01

No, that's just the, yeah, then I would do the specials. I would get ready to start doing the specials, and I would have to run it. But I'm already on tour, so I'm saying it everywhere. And it would, it would just irritate me that I would have to do the same show.

• 1:32:52Speaker 00

  Oh, really?

• 1:32:53Speaker 01

You got to, you got to run it. And I would explain to people how bad I am when I'm not running the same thing. Just let me think about it, know that it has to happen. And then when we get ready to shoot a special, then I, I'd be ready. But you didn't run it, you gotta run it. So I didn't run, I ran Domino Effect, the first one. I didn't run two. I never, I never ran two, like, at all, period. I did it that day. I didn't run three.

• 1:33:36Speaker 01

I ran four in pieces, but I never ran it all together. My father, I never ran it.

• 1:33:45Speaker 00

This is the most recent one, this is already coming out.

• 1:33:47Speaker 01

My father, I never ran, um, my two sons, I didn't run. I ran rugged.

• 1:33:56Speaker 01

I didn't run Monday, I didn't run Mondays. And out of all those specials, I only wrote one down was the first Domino effect.

• 1:34:05Speaker 00

Wow. Is there, but isn't there a part of you that like, when you're quote unquote, running it, you're finding other jokes in it, you're finding other things in it. Like naturally, you talk about a topic with your buddies for a month. You're gonna find other angles, you're gonna get a deeper understanding of how you feel about it. Like, don't you find value in running something?

• 1:34:27Speaker 01

That's when I was doing six different shows. Cause I'm going out and I'm talking from different perspectives of what I've done.

• 1:34:33Speaker 00

You would touch on similar topics at least. They would just be different. And that's where you're starting to organize the thoughts.

• 1:34:39Speaker 01

  Organize the thoughts.

• 1:34:40Speaker 00

Got it, okay. It's not just, I'm gonna go up and talk about something I've never talked about before. You might have hit it from different angles, but upon taping, you're like, this is the fleshed out version after touching these topics for a while.

• 1:34:53Speaker 01

Yeah, but with like with the Domino effects, I never had to run it because they couldn't. I, it was nothing else for me to find in it because I was telling the story.

• 1:35:02Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:35:03Speaker 01

You know what I'm saying? So with, with my father, I mean with, with my two sons, nobody could help me with it because I'm just telling the story about what's happening with me and my two sons.

• 1:35:12Speaker 00

Not help you with it, you help yourself.

• 1:35:14Speaker 01

  No, like.

• 1:35:14Speaker 00

You tell me something for a month, by the end of the month, I know you, you're gonna have 20 other jokes about it.

• 1:35:20Speaker 01

Yeah, that's the thing. I just wanted to tell their story with me.

• 1:35:26Speaker 00

  Narrating it.

• 1:35:27Speaker 01

Generally, just like no additives to it.

• 1:35:30Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:35:30Speaker 01

So rugged, I ran rugged. That's how I got the other little nuggets in it because like, like what you're saying.

• 1:35:37Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:35:38Speaker 01

But with my father, my father, which is the recent one that's getting ready to come out, it is just a, a count of me and my, my dad. And if I talked about a part of it with like Marcus mostly. Or Dave, I would remember something else to add to it like what you're saying. I'm like, oh, he did do this part.

• 1:35:57Speaker 00

What about the opening without giving away too much, but like the opening of the special? Right? Like the first thing that you said, which I think was really funny. I don't want, I mean, people probably will have seen it now. We can give a little.

• 1:36:10Speaker 01

  It hasn't came out yet.

• 1:36:12Speaker 00

No, meaning when we put this out. Yeah. Can I, alright, so the opening, which is this great, this great thing about like you, you learned, you became a good man or whatever because of your dad, but not because you did what he did? Because you did the opposite of what he did? Is that designed, like, are you going into that day going, I'm gonna open up on this line?

• 1:36:35Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:36:36Speaker 00

Because that feels to me like the opening of a special and a tone set for what they're gonna experience.

• 1:36:42Speaker 01

And that's coming off of a conversation about my mom feeling like she was, oh, I'm, I'm, he's a good guy.

• 1:36:52Speaker 00

  Because of me.

• 1:36:54Speaker 01

  Like, no.

• 1:36:55Speaker 00

What'd you say? You're like, I'm responsible because of.

• 1:36:57Speaker 01

I'm responsible because of my mother, but the wild thing, I didn't want to be like him. Like, I thought about it, but the, the, the whole entire thing, the funniest thing to me still is, you know, I know Karate. It's like, somebody said it to me in a meet and greet that saw doing, we were permitted.

• 1:37:20Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:37:21Speaker 01

And I laughed, like, they, I don't know if they thought that that was gonna happen. So I was like, we taking pictures, taking pictures, and then the dude, and he's calling my name. And I turned, I was like, what's up? He said, you know, I know Karate, right? And I, and I laughed, so I laughed at like the next five people. And they, and they, I'm doing the meet and greet and I'm still laughing.

• 1:37:45Speaker 01

My dad didn't know, he didn't know no damn Karate. But just the fact that he would say it, but who's gonna challenge him? He's 6'3" and he wore boots. It gave him an extra piece.

• 1:37:59Speaker 01

He was like, he was, my dad was, when I think about him, he's nuts, man. And I hope that this special.

• 1:38:10Speaker 01

Helps people kind of, whatever their father was or wasn't, you know, if he was great, that you celebrate the greatness of him. Em'Zan, more. If he was not so great, you celebrate the parts that you did get from him. You know, like I say in the special, my father, I don't say he's a bad father. He just wasn't ideal. He wasn't what I saw on TV. You know, it gave me this ideology of what a father's supposed to be. He was just who he was. And the, the understanding of that. I'm not gonna carry around this baggage of why, why you didn't do this with me?

• 1:38:50Speaker 01

Or why, you know, I never, I, I do things with my kids now that had never happened in my childhood. And I think that's the, the elevation and the wealth of information that I'm giving them. I'm giving them a different experience in life than what I had. And as a parent, I think that's what my job is. I've never, in the history of me, been on vacation with my dad or with my parents. The first time I ever went on vacation with my mom, I'm the one taking her with my family. We're going, hey, we're going on this vacation. Cause I wanna, I wanna experience this as an adult, being out on vacation with my mom.

• 1:39:35Speaker 01

And my mom, and, and I, I got mad at my mom, cause she was, I would be looking for my aunts there, right? My aunt, and this is another special that I, I don't wanna give too much away, cause this is another special that I shot. Um, I know you're gonna hate this. I know you're gonna hate this. You want me, you want me to tip something off, and I know you're gonna hate this, right? So, I, I, I'm doing this show in Tyson's, in Tyson, Virginia.

• 1:40:00Speaker 00

I can't wait till you paralyze your esophagus.

• 1:40:04Speaker 00

And I'ma call you on FaceTime like you just got back to the fucking banquet hall in prison in the next lawsuit.

• 1:40:13Speaker 01

So, we shot four specials in two days. Wow. And the family vacay, family vacay is my favorite one of the four. Family vacay is insane, cuz I'm, it's this story about when I broke my clavicle. And I'm on vacation, I got all of my, my family with me. And so in the, what happened, I didn't even put this in the video, but what happened, my aunt and my sister are on vacation, Jack. Do you understand what I'm saying? They are vacationing. Like, I'm seeing my sister, my sister's horseback riding, she with my aunt. They are vacationing, you know what I'm saying? Like, it is a lot of margaritas, it is.

• 1:40:58Speaker 01

Folks are kicking it. Yeah. And I'm like, yo, where my mom? And my aunt like, in the, in the hotel room watching Lifetime?

• 1:41:08Speaker 01

I'm enraged, I'm enraged. Like, man, we in Cabo, we at this very nice resort, it's very, very nice. And I spent all this money and you are in the house watching Lifetime. Doing the same shit you would do that go. I am enraged. Go up to the room, I'm like, yo, man, what's going on with you? My mom has on an outfit that she bought from the gift shop. My momma got dressed up to watch Lifetime.

• 1:41:40Speaker 01

I was like, yo, man, are you crazy right now? It's like, I'mma come out there, I just, I just, you know, wanna finish watching this. Yo, I wanna have them people take this TV out of here.

• 1:41:52Speaker 01

You became your parent. I'mma request. You became the parent, though. I'mma request them to take the TV out, man, take the TV out, I'mma steal the batteries for the remote, something, something gotta happen. You need to enjoy the sun, yo. Like, what are we doing? And then she came out there and she did something with my, with my son, they ate pizza or something about it. But he got sand, like, he's been on the beach, he got sand all in his pizza. Like, I like to see my family having a good time. Like, I think that's what I worked for, you know what I'm saying? For them to have, yo, man, do whatever, and, and I don't wanna make no decisions. When I'm, like, when I, when I go on vacation.

• 1:42:33Speaker 01

I was on another, another podcast, a guy asked me about my mental health. Like, how do you maintain, I said, vacation? And when I go on vacation, yo, July through the second week of August, I am off. And you talking about, if you ran into me, you would, you wouldn't even think I was a comedian. That's how off I am. Like, I don't wanna talk about comedy. I don't, I, I introduce you, I introduce, but I see you, knowing you, and know that you do this, I introduce you as my, uh, name in order. Hey, how you doing? I'm Siddiq, Nasi Ali, how you doing, brother? There wouldn't be no Ali Z. I was like, I don't even want you to know that I do stand-up. Like, get away from me.

• 1:43:15Speaker 01

Like, I don't even wanna hear anything about, oh, I saw you, I saw you on this. Like, I act like I'm not even that person.

• 1:43:22Speaker 02

  Nope.

• 1:43:22Speaker 01

Like, what? I say, man, a lot of people tell me I look like him and Tory Lanez.

• 1:43:31Speaker 01

I get a mystical every once in a while.

• 1:43:33Speaker 02

  You don't want that.

• 1:43:34Speaker 01

I'm like, I don't want Tory Lanez. I don't want, I'm like, why you keep comparing me to criminals?

• 1:43:42Speaker 01

I remember this, this lady talking about, um, do you see the resemble, the, the,

• 1:43:49Speaker 01

you resemble Prince to me. I was like, oh, no. Man, you reaching.

• 1:43:54Speaker 02

What are you drinking, man? Cause I want it.

• 1:43:57Speaker 01

  You are, you are reaching.

• 1:43:58Speaker 02

Wait, so you're going someplace in July, then?

• 1:44:00Speaker 01

  Oh, what?

• 1:44:01Speaker 02

  Where are you going?

• 1:44:02Speaker 01

Oh, man, see, you trying to give up my location. I'm going, we going three different places. And, man, I am, it's water, water, then, um, hot place. Water, water, then a hot place. I am so ready.

• 1:44:20Speaker 02

Can you give a continent? Are you going central, south?

• 1:44:23Speaker 01

  Backpack.

• 1:44:25Speaker 01

Like, I'm, I'm, I'm, I don't wanna have anything but a backpack. Like, yo, I want all my pictures, they looking at all my pictures like, yo, he had on the same shirt.

• 1:44:36Speaker 01

I just washed him out when I went to sleep. Like, man, I'm trying to go have me some fun.

• 1:44:39Speaker 02

Do you leave your phone? Or you bring your phone with you?

• 1:44:42Speaker 01

  For, only for information, like,

• 1:44:46Speaker 01

I don't, I don't post anything. Like, I, I be out, bruh. Like, I don't wanna, I don't wanna be a part of what's going on. Like, I just wanna be a part of vacation. I wanna, I don't wanna make no decisions. I don't wanna be on the schedule. Oh, we gotta go to lunch at this time. I, no, y'all go. I don't, I don't wanna do that. I want to, eh, that, cuz that's not a vacation. It's like, if you start scheduling things, eh, man, it's like, I don't wanna do none of that.

• 1:45:14Speaker 02

Yeah, that's a job you pay for.

• 1:45:15Speaker 01

I want to, I wanna randomly walk out and hit some guy and eat something strange. You know, he said, we got a guano. I'm like, I'll try it, man. Like, on a stick.

• 1:45:27Speaker 02

What, what's one of the, like, more interesting or weird places you ever went on vacation?

• 1:45:32Speaker 01

I, I think all the places are pretty normal cuz we got kids. But, um, you know, the Cabo, the, the, but I, I know, um, you know who's waiting on me? And they, cuz they know that I'm coming? Turks and Caicos. Turks, Turks know that I'm coming.

• 1:45:47Speaker 02

  Turks?

• 1:45:48Speaker 01

Yeah, Turks and Caicos, they know, they know for facts that they're gonna see me at their fish fry. And they, and they wait on it. They like, there you go again. I've been to Turks, man. I'm going to Turks, bro. Like, and I'm going to kick it. I'm, it, I, it's two different resorts that we stay at, and I'm going to kick, man. Turks, yo, man, I want somebody to find me in the road and step over me.

• 1:46:15Speaker 01

He's like, yo, that's right now.

• 1:46:17Speaker 02

But, do you, do you adventure, though? Or are you trying to, like, jet ski and stuff?

• 1:46:20Speaker 01

I've jet skied before in the States. That, jet skiing that, oh, I remember one time we was at, um, what, the Cabo St. Lucas was, no. Where was we at? Wherever it was at, they, that, um, they was like, yo, don't, don't go this way. That's the drug dealer route. Just jet ski this way, right? So, I'm just, we just skiing, me and my son, we doing, we finding puffer fish and all that. And the waves, something happened. Like, I saw the shift. And I was like, yo, I saw it, we gotta go. And he's in front of me, and bruh, it went from like this to.

• 1:46:58Speaker 02

  Yo.

• 1:47:01Speaker 01

And I'm like that. Hassan holding on like, ah, he terrified. I'm like, yo, Hassan, you understand this is. Because I can swim, I think that I can get out of anything.

• 1:47:16Speaker 01

Which is insane. It doesn't matter how crazy the waves are. Because I can swim, you cannot tell me that I'm gonna die. Cause I'm just not. I remember when Jaden was little, he was in Miami and Miami had this crazy storm. I know well, and the waves literally were coming up and tossing my daughter so far up on the beach. And she's like four and she's running right back into the water. And this is my ideology. She's not going, nothing's gonna happen because I'm out further than her and I'm gonna be able to get to her no matter. So she went under, under this wave. And then the wave came up and I didn't see her.

• 1:48:01Speaker 01

So boom, I'm in action. Going and then I can't find her. But the wave that threw her to the other end and she's just standing.

• 1:48:11Speaker 01

No, I'm down here. But you don't realize that the ocean.

• 1:48:14Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:48:17Speaker 01

Oh, man, but because I can swim. You cannot, like when I, when I broke my clavicle, I'm in the water. And my mind is, this was crazy, I thought my neck was broke. And I was like, cause I heard all this cracking. I said, but in my mind, I can swim.

• 1:48:37Speaker 00

You know, all those people who have drowned also could swim.

• 1:48:40Speaker 01

  They think they can swim.

• 1:48:43Speaker 01

They think they can swim if something's happening. And they don't, they don't know, they're like, yo, you're not, you're not as efficient as you think you are. You're trying to, you're trying to, um, um, you're trying, you're trying to, um, what is it called?

• 1:48:55Speaker 00

  Crawl stroke?

• 1:48:56Speaker 01

But it's a, it's a, it's a breast stroke when you in the water. Breast stroke, frog kick. It was that you trying to, like, what you got going on?

• 1:49:09Speaker 01

Breaststroke flood kick. You gotta, you gotta hear him. Dip it in, bop.

• 1:49:14Speaker 02

Yeah, he's got a good point. If you drowned, then you might not know it's true.

• 1:49:17Speaker 01

He might know what you're doing.

• 1:49:19Speaker 00

Ollie, you're talking like you just learned how to swim.

• 1:49:23Speaker 01

Breaststroke flood kick. Yes, it's a hurricane. Who cares? It's a breaststroke flood kick. But the thing is, why would I think I was gonna drown? I have been swimming since I was five. Yeah. And my mom didn't even know. It's a story and the thing was, I got pushed in the pool. And it's, it's not like I could swim at that time, cause I'd never taken swimming lessons on that. I got pushed in the pool and because my mother told me that I shouldn't have been on that side of the pool. Yeah. When I got pushed in, she was coming down the steps and I was so scared of my mama that I just swam across. Like, I just got out of the water. And my mama got down there and she was like, you better get out that pool before I got down here. I was like, cause I shouldn't have been over there.

• 1:50:07Speaker 00

So that's how you learn how to swim?

• 1:50:08Speaker 01

So then I'm like, no, I'm fishing in the water.

• 1:50:11Speaker 00

I would love to see Noah walking around the village telling everybody like, yo, listen, the flood is coming. Like, Ollie, we gotta build this ship. And you just look at Noah like, I can swim, bro. What's a flood?

• 1:50:24Speaker 01

Put a boat or what? I'm a boat.

• 1:50:28Speaker 02

You're more scared of your mom than of dying. That's hilarious.

• 1:50:32Speaker 01

For sure. Being a, being a, when you can swim, it's just asserting confidence when you're around water that you, that other people don't have. I know how I broke my clavicle, cause they, and this thing, this thing is.

• 1:50:47Speaker 01

It's a sign that says, don't go in the water because it's choppy. And I looked at that sign and my mother looked at me and said, that means you. And I'm like, no, it doesn't. I can swim.

• 1:51:03Speaker 01

And I'm, and I'm literally out there and, and I remember the first two days that I was walking around and people was pointing at me like, that's him right there. He be out there in the water.

• 1:51:13Speaker 02

  That's the swimming guy.

• 1:51:15Speaker 01

  I can swim.

• 1:51:18Speaker 03

  How'd you break the clavicle?

• 1:51:19Speaker 01

Oh, man. This, this, um, this wave, bro.

• 1:51:25Speaker 00

Yeah, it's not the water. Yeah, it wasn't the wave. Cause he can handle waters. Water you go with. No. Waves are so different.

• 1:51:31Speaker 01

The wave was in, like, I'm, I'm literally, I'm coming, right? And I'm, I just came in, and this how big this wave was. That my son said, "Dad, look at that wave." And this how I looked up. I was like, "Oh."

• 1:51:46Speaker 00

  Yeah, when it's above you.

• 1:51:47Speaker 01

And it came down and it slammed me and drug me along the beach. And that's how I broke my clavicle. Like, it, like, it was bad. And, and I'm, I'm, I, I, I hate to say this to people, but they, people in my family know. I'm a little tougher than a lot of people. My ribs are broken. My clavicle is broken. My sternum is bruised. Like, I'm, I'm really, but I, I don't wanna leave because they on vacation. And so, I'm just toughening it, I'm just toughening it out. And I'm sleeping literally up against the wall in the room. Like, I, cause I'm like, something is wrong. And I was saying, I was like, "Yo, they put me in a sling. They put my arm in a sling."

• 1:52:31Speaker 01

I'm like, and the, the, the life goes like, "Yo, this, this happens to me all the time." I used to be a bull rider. I'm like, "Nah, this is a little different." I can tell that this is different. I don't know what bull riding is, but I know this is, something is bad, bro. So I'm in a sling, right? And I, but I just know that it's something else. And I'm, I'm like, I, I would scoot up against the wall and I'm like, sleeping like this. And I would wake up and it'd be, it'd be ripped back. It'd be hard to breathe, right? So I get on the plane. I come back. And I'm waiting for the MRI and all the rest of this. So I get the MRI and back in my day, they, they would just get your x-rays

• 1:53:15Speaker 01

and you would never really see them. They'd just come tell you what's wrong with you. Now they blow you up on the screen and it's like that lady found great pride in.

• 1:53:23Speaker 00

Telling you why you fucked up.

• 1:53:24Speaker 01

She had a pointing thing. She had, she was like, so you see the, so you see this right there? Yeah. Um, that's your, that's your clavicle. And that's supposed to be here.

• 1:53:36Speaker 01

It's totally, it's gone. And the tendon is gone, all that's gone. And I was like, so what's that? It's the black crack. All those are, I was gonna get to that. Those are your ribs. Those are like four breaks in your ribs. Like, yo, it's crazy. And I said, so what do, you telling me about what we gonna do for the clavicle? I said, what we gonna do for my ribs? And she said, nothing. I said, man, that is not a medical term. Because, you know, they can't really do nothing. You gotta let them heal on your own. So after that, I'm waiting on the surgery. I go back on the road. I'm still flying and doing shows. There's some people in Utah that probably think I got shot in the airport. Because I'm, I'm, I'm getting my bags, right? I'm getting my bag and I'm rolling, I'm waiting on the car.

• 1:54:19Speaker 01

And as I'm walking, I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. I gotta sneeze. And I know. And so I sneeze and then I just lay down in the baggage claim. I just laid on it. And white people are crazy. Why, why, well, you got shot?

• 1:54:38Speaker 01

He ain't even hearing none of that. It was, so I had the, I had the surgery on a Tuesday. And then that, because I'm, um, wanna keep my word to this comedy club who's closed now. And they trying to stop me from being closed. So they sold out two shows from coming out. And people like, yo, he's never been to this club. He never said he was coming. And so I finally, they made it in, I came. So I wanted to keep my word. I get on the plane the day after I have surgery. So I'm, I'm, I'm on the plane, I get there. So I come out, I got this huge, it's not the sling they gave me in Mexico. This is a huge thing with a ball on it. It's pressure up on my own.

• 1:55:22Speaker 01

It's, it's crazy. So as I'm, I'm doing the shows and then the, the last show, this lady.

• 1:55:33Speaker 01

I collapsed in the, in the comedy club. I'm walking and this lady said, "Great show."

• 1:55:41Speaker 01

And I just went down and this is after me telling the whole story about what happened. Like, and this lady hit me right on it. I just collapsed to the floor. And I was like, "Yo, this is insane." And my ribs were still broke and I'm like, and then when I look back on that whole ordeal, I'm like, "Why was I that dedicated to stand up?" Like,

• 1:56:08Speaker 01

like, "Why?" Like, is it, is it, I, I must be crazy. And then now I look at my two sons, my two sons and Rugged. I had on some red Gucci loafers and I had on these cowhide boots. Nobody would believe that my toe was broke. My baby toe was broken and why I'm doing these specials.

• 1:56:30Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:56:31Speaker 01

  And

• 1:56:32Speaker 00

No one would even think it.

• 1:56:33Speaker 01

Yeah, it was like, "Yo," because I'm, because I'm not hobbling or nothing. I didn't tell the director, nobody until after it was over. And I took my boot off and my foot is swollen. It was like, but I had all this numb and spray on it. They would be walking in, they didn't know I was spraying my foot. They thought I probably had, uh, um, athlete's foot. I was spraying all this numbness over my foot and I'm like, "Yeah, y'all ready?" And then now I gotta struggle to put this boot on and I was like,

• 1:57:03Speaker 01

so when I went out there, when I went out there, um, I would just be doing, doing my thing, just blocking it out. You know what I'm saying? And I think my father, um, wasn't nothing wrong with me on that one.

• 1:57:20Speaker 01

  And not even emotionally.

• 1:57:21Speaker 00

We gotta make sure, we gotta make sure everybody goes and checks out My Father, obviously. But before you go, I wanted to ask you, um, if you saw the roast and what you think about it. Like you had brought up Rickles and you brought up these guys who like, I think a lot of us watched them were like these iconic roasters. What did you think about the last one? I know there's been like a lot of controversy and stuff, like what was your digestion of it?

• 1:57:44Speaker 01

This is, this is my take on it. One, I did not see it.

• 1:57:51Speaker 00

  But here's my opinion.

• 1:57:54Speaker 01

I did not watch the roast, okay? But my opinion on the controversy that I heard, it's gonna always be like that going forward. If you being roasted for industry, for industry event versus a actual roast.

• 1:58:15Speaker 00

  Which is like your friends.

• 1:58:17Speaker 01

  Which is your friends.

• 1:58:18Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:58:18Speaker 01

The Friars Club was a roast that was friends. And when you watch the classic roast, all these people had personal relationships with each other and they was friends. That is an industry thing now. That's not an actual, the, the basis of a roast. So whatever controversy is coming from due to the, the, I'm not gonna say the elevation, the decline of it being a personal thing versus it's being an industry showcase.

• 1:58:45Speaker 00

But this didn't exist with the Tom Brady one. At least I didn't feel this much when I did it.

• 1:58:50Speaker 01

When, when I watched y'all doing the Tom Brady joint, it was, it wasn't racially charged.

• 1:58:58Speaker 00

  Well, cuz Tom is white.

• 1:58:59Speaker 01

  Tom is white.

• 1:59:00Speaker 00

And I hated him for that reason.

• 1:59:02Speaker 01

And, and I, I hated him cuz he played for the Patriots. And, and I, and I, and I didn't think that, um, that it was, it had this type of,

• 1:59:15Speaker 01

you know, stigma around it. Like certain people were saying certain things. It was, it was very, um, sexual.

• 1:59:24Speaker 00

  Tom Brady, definitely.

• 1:59:25Speaker 01

That was very, very, it was like some things that was like, in my mind, at, at some point, I was like, yo, it would have been some fights behind, like, like, if somebody would say some of the things that was said, I was like, yeah. Cuz my whole thing was like, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna see you after this. Yeah, you on, you on the list.

• 1:59:44Speaker 00

Ali will not be doing, Ali will not be doing a roast any time soon.

• 1:59:48Speaker 01

Yeah, I would, I would be more, more inclined to be roasted by people who I know. And then the people on the thing that I actually know. You understand?

• 2:00:01Speaker 00

Cause then you, then there's never any concern about like.

• 2:00:06Speaker 01

  Malice.

• 2:00:07Speaker 00

  Exactly.

• 2:00:08Speaker 01

If, if you saying something, you saying something, I don't think that you have any malice towards me. So I, I'm taking it all in fun. And then it's like, if I'm roasting you, I'm going to bring up superstition. You know that you're superstitious, so it's not gonna be like, I can't believe he said that about me.

• 2:00:24Speaker 00

Or if we've been on the road for 20 years together, like it's, it's like seeing some guys in the army that are making like fucking horrible jokes about one another. It's like, yeah, but they've been in the trenches together. They don't even care what race each other are like. These people literally put their fucking lives on the line.

• 2:00:38Speaker 01

Do you understand if we in war and you, you done had to drink each other's urine.

• 2:00:48Speaker 00

  You would call me cracker.

• 2:00:50Speaker 01

Call me whatever you wanna call me.

• 2:00:53Speaker 01

  What's up with the pineapple?

• 2:01:00Speaker 00

That's Hawaiian guys pee taste great.

• 2:01:04Speaker 01

You know, cause it's, it's like you, man, you in a different mindset. This is things that people had to do for each other during times. When I go back, I like, I like war movies. Now, if you want me to get choked up, if that, now I be watching the, I'm like, yo, I can't believe they did that.

• 2:01:22Speaker 01

  Like he carried it.

• 2:01:25Speaker 01

  He blew his legs out.

• 2:01:29Speaker 00

You saying, and again, like you haven't watched it, but the, you think the response comes from like maybe a lack of camaraderie or like a built in relationship.

• 2:01:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:01:38Speaker 00

Where if it was that, you don't think it would be.

• 2:01:40Speaker 01

I don't think that it would have been that at all.

• 2:01:42Speaker 00

So it's not necessarily about the jokes. It's about like where they're coming from.

• 2:01:47Speaker 01

  Where they come from.

• 2:01:47Speaker 00

And that's what the audience was consuming it.

• 2:01:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:01:50Speaker 00

So it's like Eminem and Dr. Dre are saying crazy shit to one another. You're like, yeah, these guys have known each other forever. Like there's love there.
