The hosts dive deeply into Echo Weaver, a 2D indie game heavily inspired by Outer Wilds and Metroidvania conventions where players are trapped in time loops and must unlock knowledge rather than physical items to progress. They discuss the game's brilliant mechanical design, clever shortcuts, and demanding platforming, tempered by some cringe-inducing writing and rough edges. Next, the discussion shifts to Dragon's Dogma 2 and its new Darker Risen expansion, exploring how quality-of-life additions like casual mode and eternal fairy stones have made the notoriously punishing open-world RPG much more accessible and fun to explore. Finally, the team touches on honorable mentions including Breath of the Wild's Switch 2 Zelda notes, the PlayStation Lego set, and Warhammer 40K Bolt Gun 2.

“where a lot of the game is about learning about the game and the world and learning about what you can do in this world”
“Okay. So you've got, you get this weapon. It's called the glaive. It's basically a frisbee and you can lodge it in walls if you need to.”

“I think with Warhammer, it's probably very similar to Star Wars because my impression is they're doing the thing that we've been cheering Star Wars on for, which is making these very narrow genres.”
Even though we were traveling for the live show, we still made time to play new games! Echo Weaver is a Metroidvania in the style of Outer Wilds, but simplified from 3D to 2D. It’s a little rough around the edges, though not enough to tarnish its big ideas. Plus, Griffin joins Plante on the Dragon’s Dogma train with the updated Dragon Dogma’s 2: Dark Arisen. But have some of those changes led Plante to reconsider his fandom? So many mysteries! To get the answers, I suppose you’ll just have to listen!
