• 1:35H. Foley?

Yes, sir. And gang, we couldn't be more excited to have our incredibly, and I mean incredibly, special guest here with us today for the first time. He is an extremely talented, extremely successful actor, comedian, producer, director, writer, and you might have seen him in But Not Limited 2. Get ready, boys. You got Virginia, you got Community, you got It's Always Sunny, Key & Peele, Kingdom, 27 episodes of that, I, Tanya, Black Klansman, Richard Jewell, directed by Clint Eastwood. I don't know if you know that. How you doing? Reno 911, 6 episodes of that, Songbird, Cruella.

• 2:10H. Foley?

Queenpins, fantastic. Blackbird, six episodes of that. Old Dads, Inside Out 2. Cobra Kai, 15 episodes of that. I Think You Should Leave. The Instigators. Late Night. The After Party, 10 episodes of that. And get this, this is what he's got coming down the pike. He's gonna be in the Fantastic Four movie. The Springsteen movie. The Naked Gun. And a movie with Mark Wahlberg, directed by Peter Fairley.

• 2:34Speaker 01

  Guy's got range.

• 2:36H. Foley?

Oh yeah, and by the way, he's got a Critics' Choice Award, a Golden Globe, and a goddamn Emmy. Bit of a show off, if you ask me, huh? Kill it. And he's a star of the brand new movie, The Luckiest Man in America, which is in theaters right now. Do yourself a favor, it's absolutely fantastic. Give it up for Paul Walter Hauser, everybody. Look at you.

• 2:58Speaker 03

I'm gonna, I'm gonna just make sure you get on Cameo so I can pay you to just make that video for me once a month when I'm having a rainy day.

• 3:08H. Foley?

You got a goddamn Emmy, what are you talking about?

• 3:10Speaker 03

That's awesome, thank you very much, man.

• 3:13Speaker 01

  Thanks for coming.

• 3:14Speaker 03

Also, I will say, hearing all those titles, it's like, man, a lot of fun movies. Movies I just categorize as fun.

• 3:22H. Foley?

  Home runs.

• 3:22Speaker 03

I've had a lot of fun.

• 3:23H. Foley?

  Home runs. Queenpins is fantastic.

• 3:26Speaker 03

You got some great, uh, I know you guys are from Philly, right? You, you got some, uh, Chicago in you, you got some John Candy energy in you.

• 3:34H. Foley?

  In my voice.

• 3:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:36H. Foley?

Yeah, I was born in upstate Pennsylvania, so that accent tends to lean a little Midwest.

• 3:40Speaker 03

You know what's funny? I, I auditioned for The Kroll Show back in like 2014 or something.

• 3:45H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 3:46Speaker 03

And they wanted me to do a sketch, and they didn't want me to, they were giving me the audition to try to book a role in a sketch that like took place in Philadelphia, and they needed me to have a Philly accent. And I didn't really have it down.

• 4:01Speaker 01

Yeah, it's tough to get there.

• 4:02Speaker 03

  I didn't nail it.

• 4:03H. Foley?

  It's 2014?

• 4:05Speaker 03

Kept trying to say sub and tonic.

• 4:08Speaker 01

  It's a lot of pop.

• 4:09Speaker 03

  Sub and a tonic.

• 4:11H. Foley?

I think I read for that, didn't get it either. What are you gonna do? Uh huh. Buddy, the movie's fantastic. Yeah, man, congratulations. You were awesome. Love the way that they did it. Just right up the middle, you're in the action and it goes. It looks beautiful.

• 4:25Speaker 03

Yeah, I think it's at like a tight 90, 95 minutes. Like it's one of those movies that trucks along really well.

• 4:31H. Foley?

Dude, so good. Such an interesting story. It's fantastic. We can't thank you enough for being here. Guys, again, it's in theaters right now. Do yourself a favor. The luckiest man in America. Go see it.

• 4:40Speaker 03

For those that don't know, the quick elevator pitch on this is back in 1984, there was a series called Press Your Luck Game Show. And you try to win a bunch of money and prizes, but if you press the buzzer at the wrong time, you would get what's called a whammy, this little red monster. We're very familiar with the whammy. Stuff. And, uh, you know, we all have our whammies in life, I think.

• 5:03H. Foley?

I got a couple on me.

• 5:04Speaker 03

And a couple of my ex-wives were whammies. You know what I mean? They took my money from me. No, but they, this story is a true story about how this man named Michael Larson, who was a bit of a grifter, a con man. Back in 1984, he took CBS for a little over a hundred thousand dollars.

• 5:22H. Foley?

  Hundred G's.

• 5:23Speaker 03

And, uh, and the reality was, is he didn't really cheat necessarily, but he did figure out the pattern and the algorithm. That only had about five different patterns of how to press the buzzer at the right time to, to get the prizes and the money. And so the film explores that. Brief moment in time. I like to call it a time capsule, this film. Cause you get a real, a real accurate depiction of 1983 in America and what people looked like and. And the attitudes and you know, even we'll do cutaways to Walton Goggins talking to the crowd or. My buddy Jimmy Walk talking to one of the coworkers and you, you get a feeling that it's kind of a ignorance is bliss moment in America.

• 6:01H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 6:01Speaker 03

It's like, we're all thriving. We're all doing well. There's a healthy working middle class. Uh, we don't, we kind of don't know what lies ahead, you know?

• 6:09H. Foley?

Sure. Uh huh. You get to take CBS for a hundred G's in about 22 minutes.

• 6:14Speaker 03

Yeah. That's like one residual for Jim Parsons for Big Bang Theory. Under K from CBS, right out the pocket.

• 6:21Speaker 01

He doesn't even catch that, I don't think.

• 6:22H. Foley?

Give us the backstory. Give us the origin story.

• 6:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:26H. Foley?

Where were you born? Moms, dads, brothers, sisters? Lay it on us.

• 6:30Speaker 03

For a second, I thought you were...

• 6:31H. Foley?

Let's get the heart of this.

• 6:32Speaker 03

For a second, I thought you were doing the David Duchovny from Zoolander. Where you're like, "But why male models?" I thought you were saying like, "But what's the backstory?" And I'm like, "I just told you the backstory."

• 6:42Speaker 01

I just succinctly gave it to you.

• 6:44Speaker 03

I told you, press your lie. Uh, my backstory is...

• 6:46H. Foley?

  What's this movie about?

• 6:46Speaker 01

I thought you did the same thing. I'm like, "Are you stroking out right now, dude?" He just fucking did it perfect.

• 6:52Speaker 03

  I, uh...

• 6:53Speaker 01

  Take it from the top.

• 6:54Speaker 03

I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

• 6:57Speaker 01

  Michigan kid.

• 6:58Speaker 03

I go to Saginaw, Michigan around the age of two, one, one and a half, something like that. I don't really remember what I'm told. Moved there. Those were my formative years.

• 7:06Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 7:06Speaker 03

Dad's a Lutheran pastor. Mom is a, uh, daycare, uh, manager turned, uh, substitute teacher turned teacher turned school administrator, principal type.

• 7:17Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 7:18Speaker 03

Worked way up the ladder and, uh, and her and dad were just very much, it was like churches and schools, that kinda small-town, uh, simple energy, you know?

• 7:29H. Foley?

Your dad had his own church?

• 7:31Speaker 03

Uh, he was the, the head pastor at the church.

• 7:33Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 7:34Speaker 03

And I have a brother and two sisters, uh, who got into a similar line of work. I had always been, uh, romanced by the world of comedy and theater and music and professional wrestling. I just loved the idea of entertainment and creation and being a part of that, that, um, machine. And I pursued that throughout school. I ended up writing screenplays in high school. I started doing stand-up comedy in high school.

• 8:00Speaker 01

  That's crazy.

• 8:00Speaker 03

I did ten plays in four years, which is kinda the equivalent to like a two or three sport athlete every year.

• 8:08Speaker 03

But it was more mathematics or something, you know?

• 8:11H. Foley?

  Varsity Letterman in theater.

• 8:13Speaker 03

Theatrics. Uh, and I just, I ingratiated myself. I was obsessed. I used to, you know? If Jerry Seinfeld was on the cover of a TV guide, I, I saved it.

• 8:23Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 8:23Speaker 03

That type of weirdo stuff. But it did account, or it did amount and accumulate to me being ready when the time came. And I went and auditioned for a background role in a small independent film in Michigan. It was called Virginia.

• 8:37Speaker 01

It's Virginia, it was the first one.

• 8:39Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris. Um, a bunch of great people were in that movie. And I, I showed up to a background actor, but I saw the director and I was like, yo, congrats on your movie Milk that you won the Oscar for. I loved. The movie was very moving and your Oscar speech was moving. Cause you know, I was one of these more liberal minded Jesus people in my hometown.

• 8:59Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 9:00Speaker 03

So like when Lance Black is telling everybody like, God doesn't hate gay people. I'm like, yeah. It's nice to hear someone say that. Yeah. Thank you. I agree. Um, so I just told him that as like a 40 second drive by compliment and he wrote my name down. Invited me back for an audition. When I got to the audition, it was like a bunch of local yokels who work at like convenience stores. It wasn't like people that save TV guides.

• 9:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:24H. Foley?

I got 10 plays under my belt.

• 9:25Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, no, I was like a monster. I was so competitive. I was so ready to go. I got the whole script from a manager in Hollywood, uh, and printed it out. I didn't just do the sides like the guys there had.

• 9:39Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 9:39Speaker 03

  So like.

• 9:40Speaker 01

  Doing every part.

• 9:41Speaker 03

I did, uh. But I, I, I just really threw myself into it. The rest is history. I did the come up like anybody else. It happened a little bit quicker than other people, maybe.

• 9:52Speaker 01

  Put the work in. Cooking.

• 9:53Speaker 03

But yeah, you, you find your thing and then sometimes you get thrown a great curve ball in the form of an I Tanya and a Richard Jewell where I was predominantly doing sketch comedy, standup comedy. We were making short films for Funny or Die, that type of thing.

• 10:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:07Speaker 03

And then, uh, you know, Hollywood decided to invite me into the world of dramas. But even in dramas, I was bringing a comedic element, the same way I'd bring a dramatic element to comedy stuff.

• 10:18Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 10:18H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 10:18Speaker 03

And I've just been playing that game the whole time.

• 10:20Speaker 01

Both sides of the ball, baby.

• 10:21H. Foley?

  It's wild.

• 10:22Speaker 03

I think that was, I think I summed that up.

• 10:24H. Foley?

  That was beautiful.

• 10:25Speaker 03

  Is that a good summation?

• 10:25Speaker 01

  That was fantastic.

• 10:26H. Foley?

As the most eloquent words that were ever spoken in this place. I'm taking it right now.

• 10:30Speaker 03

If you're a garbage person, you don't say the word summation with that much cheese. I know that.

• 10:34H. Foley?

  So no sports growing up?

• 10:37Speaker 03

No, I played sports. I just wasn't like the best athlete. I also wasn't like the worst, but I was far from the best.

• 10:42H. Foley?

How were the grades? Good student?

• 10:45Speaker 03

Oh, I had straight A's through second grade.

• 10:48Speaker 01

I was putting up good numbers.

• 10:49Speaker 03

Grade three and four, we're talking A's, B's. By fifth or sixth grade, it was like some C's showed up. By seventh grade, it was like, look, I'm passing. Leave me alone.

• 10:58Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 11:00Speaker 03

But yeah, no, I, I played some sports. I was, I enjoyed like flag football and I was so good for a minute and then tackle football happened.

• 11:09Speaker 01

  Changed the game.

• 11:10Speaker 03

And I just got my ass beat. The first play of the first game, I'm like, I'm on the kickoff team. Time to pop somebody. And I got nailed and just laid on the field for the whole next play. Didn't even get up. We had 13 men on the field and I was like crawling to, to the sideline. It was bad.

• 11:28H. Foley?

I want to go back and do South Pacific.

• 11:30Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 11:31H. Foley?

  Keep the ball.

• 11:32Speaker 03

I'll take Pippin. You keep your rugby, sir.

• 11:35H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 11:36Speaker 01

What was the, what was the high school mascot growing up?

• 11:39Speaker 03

  The Charger.

• 11:40Speaker 01

  That's pretty good.

• 11:41H. Foley?

  Private school, public school?

• 11:43Speaker 03

  Uh, public, parochial, Jesus.

• 11:45H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 11:46Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 11:46H. Foley?

All right. But wait, wait, is it public school, but it was Lutheran?

• 11:49Speaker 03

  No, parochial, private. Yeah.

• 11:51H. Foley?

Oh, it was private school. Okay. So you went to Lutheran school?

• 11:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 11:54H. Foley?

All right. Okay. Do your parents still live in the same house that you grew up in?

• 11:58Speaker 03

No, but same, uh, same like, uh, what do you call it? Zip code.

• 12:03H. Foley?

Okay. What was the name of the street that you grew up on?

• 12:06Speaker 03

  North Bond Street.

• 12:07H. Foley?

North Bond Street? That's not bad.

• 12:11Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 12:11Speaker 03

2409 North Bond Street. I believe it's still there.

• 12:14Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 12:15H. Foley?

  Not bad.

• 12:15Speaker 01

And what was the name of the high school?

• 12:17Speaker 03

  Valley Lutheran High School.

• 12:19Speaker 01

  Valley Lutheran High School.

• 12:20Speaker 03

I also took classes at a school called the Saginaw Career Complex. They called the SCC or COC. Um, and that was like my junior, senior year. I got to leave for three hours in the morning.

• 12:31Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 12:32Speaker 03

To do digital media. So I would learn Final Cut Pro and GarageBand and I would learn how to use cameras and do a basic setup, you know?

• 12:39Speaker 01

  That's awesome.

• 12:40Speaker 03

  It was really fun.

• 12:41H. Foley?

  This guy was focused.

• 12:42Speaker 03

Well, it was cool having a career like class because I hated school.

• 12:45Speaker 01

You're at least focused of like this stuff.

• 12:47Speaker 03

I could do something creative. Yeah.

• 12:47H. Foley?

  Did you do college?

• 12:49Speaker 03

I, I, I had a cup of coffee at Concordia University.

• 12:56Speaker 03

  River Forest Oak Park.

• 12:57Speaker 01

Went and kicked some tires, yeah.

• 12:59Speaker 03

Yeah, I, I, I went two semesters. My third semester, I dropped out. And I was doing a college radio show while doing open mics in Chicago while writing a screenplay for Key and Peele, who had just been

• 13:15Speaker 03

deemed unemployed because Mad TV got canceled. And I shared a manager with them at the time. He repped Key and Peele and Ike Barinholtz and some other great comedians. He said, "You want to write this movie? I know you're a writer and these guys have an idea for a movie." And, uh, and that was kind of my start to, um, having like Hollywood friends and trying to work with people like that.

• 13:36H. Foley?

  Look at this.

• 13:37Speaker 01

  Moving and shaking.

• 13:38H. Foley?

  Go getter.

• 13:39Speaker 01

Shaking and moving. Shaking and moving, and door moving. Let's, we, we normally do if you're, we get the name of your high school and find out if you're on the notable alum on Wikipedia.

• 13:47H. Foley?

  He's gotta be.

• 13:48Speaker 01

  You gotta be, right?

• 13:49Speaker 04

He's not only a notable alum.

• 13:50H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 13:51Speaker 04

  He's the only notable alum.

• 13:52H. Foley?

Yeah. What are you talking about? He's got an Emmy!

• 13:55Speaker 01

I'm, I'm just checking to make sure Wikipedia is doing her job.

• 13:58Speaker 04

  Concordia's counting you too.

• 13:59Speaker 03

  Alumni gangster.

• 14:00H. Foley?

  Oh, they are?

• 14:02Speaker 01

Real tough guy stuff, notable alum.

• 14:05H. Foley?

  I like it.

• 14:05Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 14:06H. Foley?

How about the vacations growing up? What were they like? Where would you go?

• 14:10Speaker 03

Oh, gosh. Uh, mostly nonexistent, but our vacations were like family reunions. It wasn't like we went to Boca Raton and sipping from Twirly Straws.

• 14:19Speaker 01

  Boca Raton.

• 14:20H. Foley?

  How'd you go to Boca?

• 14:21Speaker 03

I like how, I like how Boca Raton is like a vacation destination in 1962.

• 14:26Speaker 01

Yeah, if, if you're, if you're 88 years old too.

• 14:28Speaker 03

It's like, "We just bought a microwave and we're going to Boca Raton. Things are looking up."

• 14:32Speaker 01

  Things are going well.

• 14:33Speaker 03

No, yeah, we, we went down to, we drove down to Florida from Michigan.

• 14:37Speaker 01

  That's a hump.

• 14:38Speaker 03

On two occasions, which we had luggage fall off the top of the car.

• 14:42Speaker 01

  Sure you did.

• 14:43Speaker 03

We had the car break down and run out of gas where we were in the blazing heat for an hour and a half while our dad got a gas can. I mean, it was some real National Lampoon's vacation type shit.

• 14:53Speaker 01

  Sure, middle America type stuff.

• 14:54Speaker 03

Yeah, and then Wisconsin was like our big treat. We'd go to a

• 14:57Speaker 01

  Adele's?

• 14:57Speaker 03

Cabin. No, no, we did go to the The Dells once or twice. They had the thing called Noah's Ark at the Dells.

• 15:02H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 15:02Speaker 03

And we, we went up to this place called Chihuahua, which is uh, like a lake by Green Bay or something. That was like our big family reunion spot.

• 15:11H. Foley?

Is, was that with the, is that, whose side of the family was that? Your dad's or your mom's?

• 15:14Speaker 03

That was my dad. My mom, my mom's folks were down in uh, Florida and in Jersey.

• 15:19H. Foley?

So that's where you, when you go to Florida, that's where you go to her, her family?

• 15:22Speaker 03

  Florida, Jersey, yeah.

• 15:22H. Foley?

Okay. Jersey, would you go to the shore? Jersey shore?

• 15:25Speaker 03

I don't remember the specificity so much, as we definitely went to the shore and I didn't wear sunscreen for five, six hours.

• 15:31H. Foley?

  I'll get you.

• 15:32Speaker 03

And I had second degree burns on my back, went to the hospital and I spent most of my time in Jersey, sitting on a couch, watching movies while putting Allo on my back and crying with a fan oscillating in my face.

• 15:46Speaker 01

That is the full Jersey Shore experience.

• 15:48H. Foley?

  Yeah, that's it right there.

• 15:49Speaker 01

I've done that many a times.

• 15:50H. Foley?

Alright, now we're getting somewhere. I like it.

• 15:52Speaker 01

What kind of uh, cars were, what was the family car growing up that you were doing these uh?

• 15:56Speaker 03

Oh, it was like all these POS Astro vans and stuff, like whatever, whatever fit all of our, our full family of six and uh, and Dorito crumbs and toad, you know?

• 16:08H. Foley?

Six, well you, yeah, six. You got three siblings.

• 16:12Speaker 03

Well, four kids and then two parents, so four plus two.

• 16:16Speaker 01

  He's not the math.

• 16:17Speaker 03

I'm just being an asshole, I'm kidding.

• 16:18Speaker 01

He's no mathlete, I'll tell you that.

• 16:20H. Foley?

  I didn't go to Concordia, I'm sorry.

• 16:22Speaker 03

Sorry, I didn't get into your small private college no one's heard of. By the way, I only went there because Chicago's dope, you're close to Chicago and they let in a guy like me because I got Lutheran cred or whatever.

• 16:34H. Foley?

  Street cred.

• 16:35Speaker 01

  I like it.

• 16:36Speaker 03

  I couldn't have gotten into a Tisch.

• 16:38Speaker 01

Uh, and what was your first job growing up?

• 16:41Speaker 03

First job was um, newspaper delivery boy for like three or four months.

• 16:47Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 16:48H. Foley?

  Three or four months?

• 16:49Speaker 03

Yeah, I didn't do it long. I, I learned that racket quick. It was, it was good for, I had, I had slurpee money. I had videotape rental money, but I didn't, I wasn't making the real bucks until I uh, started working over at the Mrs. Fields in the Saginaw Mall.

• 17:04Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 17:05Speaker 03

  Fashion Square Mall.

• 17:06Speaker 01

  Fashion Square Mall.

• 17:07Speaker 03

We used to get 50% off of. Food and let me tell you, my fat ass. I had so many double fudge brownies and pretzels and lemonades that were mostly sugar with a little bit of lemon.

• 17:20Speaker 01

The 90s were a great time.

• 17:21H. Foley?

Man, that's all right. I miss this field, man.

• 17:23Speaker 03

  This is early 2000s.

• 17:24Speaker 01

  Early 2000s.

• 17:25Speaker 03

  Full of lipids.

• 17:26Speaker 01

  Yeah, unregulated.

• 17:28H. Foley?

Kim, let's talk about simpler hair color.

• 17:30Speaker 01

Thanks, Henry. Let's talk about simpler hair color.

• 17:32H. Foley?

I got news for you. Every time I look at my fat face in the mirror, I see nothing but wiry gray hair.

• 17:39Speaker 01

  Yeah, old gray beard.

• 17:40H. Foley?

  Dude, bad news.

• 17:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:42H. Foley?

In my beard and my hair.

• 17:44Speaker 01

Like an out of work pirate.

• 17:45H. Foley?

Dude, simpler hair color is what you want to do. Forget about the grays. Get rid of them with simpler hair color. We're talking about salon quality here for a fraction of the cost. They were nice enough to send us some. I'm telling you right now, I'm gonna have Luke doing me up nice.

• 19:03H. Foley?

Do it. What about Helix, Kip?

• 19:06Speaker 01

Who don't love a good Helix mattress? I snoozed in one this morning.

• 19:10H. Foley?

Love a Helix, gang. Do yourself a favor, go over there, take the quiz, find out how you sleep. Do you sleep hot, do you sleep cold? On your side, on your back? Are you a big guy? Are you a small guy? Are you tall, are you short? Whatever you got,

• 19:23Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 19:24H. Foley?

They got you covered. You take the quiz, two, three minutes, they match up with the perfect mattress. It's the last mattress you're gonna own. Once you go Helix, you're never going back, baby. And you're gonna get the best night's sleep of your life.

• 19:35Speaker 01

Yeah, um, listen, we've been a Helix company for a long frickin' time over here.

• 19:39H. Foley?

  Helix family.

• 19:40Speaker 01

I got one, he's got one, you got, everyone's got Helixes. And listen, we ain't going back. They have changed my life. It was the first purchase I made where I went, whoa. This is, cause I always use like, you know, you're, you're my brother's old mattress. My grandma moved and there's a mattress in the garage you can use.

• 19:56H. Foley?

  Some dead woman's cot.

• 19:57Speaker 01

Yeah, I know. Burlap sack with hay. That ain't what we talking about. I'm a Twilight man, me and my, my wife loves it. Uh, it's fantastic. So here's the turkey, baby. Uh, go to helixsleep.com/garbage for 20% off site wide. That ain't 10, that ain't 5. That's 20% off site, site wide. That's helixsleep.com/garbage. Get a pen, get a pencil. Helixsleep.com/garbage for 20% off site wide.

• 20:23H. Foley?

Do it, yeah. Who babysat you as a kid?

• 20:27Speaker 03

You know what's, you know what's so funny is there was a guy named Chuck Kuhn, who babysitted us briefly when I was a kid. And he introduced me to, um, He-Man. He had all those He-Man toys, like you have the Skeletor on the shelf. And he had like the castle and the thing where you connected the weird fabric, uh, animal with the saddle and everything.

• 20:50H. Foley?

  Yeah, the, the tiger.

• 20:52Speaker 03

Yeah, we thought he was the bomb.

• 20:53H. Foley?

  Battle cat.

• 20:54Speaker 03

Yeah, he let us play with his He-Man toys and he'd make us Kraft macaroni and cheese. But Jennifer Harris was our best babysitter because she took me to one of my first movies. She took us to see She took us to a theater called Cinema Suds where you could still drink a beer and smoke a cigarette in the effin' theater.

• 21:11Speaker 01

That's a good time. This country was a country.

• 21:15Speaker 03

This is fall of 1990, okay? We thought Dan Quayle was a genius. And we saw Home Alone. That was one of my earliest memories.

• 21:24H. Foley?

Were you drinking beers and ripping heaters?

• 21:26Speaker 03

No, I wasn't ripping much other than some farts and laughing at the movie and eating from a bowl of popcorn.

• 21:32H. Foley?

Alright, hold on a second. How old was the guy that had the he-man?

• 21:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:36H. Foley?

  How old was this dude?

• 21:38Speaker 01

And what was his connection to the family?

• 21:39Speaker 03

Probably seven years my senior, so if he was babysitting me at six, he was probably 13.

• 21:44H. Foley?

  Okay, alright.

• 21:45Speaker 01

  That makes sense.

• 21:46H. Foley?

  Male babysitter, bad news.

• 21:48Speaker 01

  When you explained it, I-

• 21:49Speaker 03

What do you mean, bad news? Did you have a bad experience or do you think this is a universal thing?

• 21:54Speaker 01

  Speaking broad strokes here.

• 21:56H. Foley?

To have a male babysitter leans to the trashy side.

• 22:00Speaker 03

  I don't know.

• 22:01H. Foley?

  Jennifer sounds like a peach.

• 22:02Speaker 03

Listen, all these Mary Kay Letourneau types are weirdos. I think sometimes a male babysitter is what you need to crack the whip and to get the job done.

• 22:11H. Foley?

And when you said he-man, I'm picturing like some 30-year-old dude.

• 22:14Speaker 01

That's what I thought. I thought like somebody, you know.

• 22:16H. Foley?

  Alright, 13, he's a kid.

• 22:17Speaker 01

Fresh from like an Ryo Speedwagon concert or something.

• 22:21Speaker 03

It's okay, kid, just roll up the chains and I'm like, "Stop speaking in lyrics, you creep."

• 22:27Speaker 01

And what, speaking of, what was your first concert growing up?

• 22:31Speaker 03

Oh, my first, well, there's your first concert and then here's your first like real concert. My first concert was a Christian two-man band called Lost and Found.

• 22:41Speaker 01

  That's a pretty good name.

• 22:43Speaker 03

And there were like 70 of us in like a thousand-seat theater watching them. But I actually loved them and they were great, but my first concert where it's like you might have heard of the band was, um, I think I went to a Sister Hazel concert.

• 22:56Speaker 01

  Whoa!

• 22:57Speaker 03

I saw Sister Hazel, Styx, and Weird Al Yankovic all in like within a two-year span. That was a big deal for me.

• 23:03Speaker 01

  It's a great run.

• 23:04H. Foley?

  That's not bad.

• 23:05Speaker 03

  A decent run.

• 23:06H. Foley?

  It's alright.

• 23:07Speaker 03

  For a thirteen year old.

• 23:08Speaker 01

That's a great, thirteen, well, I think we're the same age when Weird Al hit, that was, I mean.

• 23:13Speaker 03

Sorry, my aggressive ex-military dad didn't take me to see Pantera. I didn't get to go to that one.

• 23:19H. Foley?

Sister Hazel, finally I figured out and it took a long, long time, right? That's their song?

• 23:24Speaker 03

Don't pretend like you're trying to think of it, you know damn well that's their song.

• 23:28Speaker 01

I was listening to it on the way in.

• 23:29Speaker 03

Hard to say what it is I see in you, wonder if I'm.

• 23:33Speaker 01

We sang that song together in the car, dude.

• 23:37H. Foley?

What was your first car? What was your first whip that you got?

• 23:41Speaker 03

  My first whip?

• 23:43H. Foley?

  Hit me.

• 23:44Speaker 03

Was a blue, a blue Crown Victoria from nineteen eighty-nine. It was like a cop car.

• 23:52Speaker 01

You're doing a Crown Vic, did it have the?

• 23:53Speaker 03

  Horrible steering column.

• 23:54Speaker 01

Did it have the light on it?

• 23:55Speaker 03

  What?

• 23:56Speaker 01

Did it have the light out the window? A lot of those old Crown Vics have like the, the.

• 23:59H. Foley?

  Spotlight.

• 24:00Speaker 03

I don't think that one did, but it was probably broken off or something. It was the, car was in rough shape, but a member of our congregation at the time gave it to me for free. And it was the sweetest gesture, but um, but I didn't, I didn't drive much, still don't.

• 24:14Speaker 01

Why, why didn't you drive, just you're not a, it's not your thing?

• 24:16Speaker 03

  I don't have a driver's license.

• 24:17Speaker 01

  Oh, that makes sense.

• 24:18H. Foley?

Wait, you got the car without a license?

• 24:20Speaker 03

  Well, I, I've had my permit like forty-five times, but I don't actually have a driver's license.

• 24:24H. Foley?

Wait, you don't have a driver's license right now?

• 24:26Speaker 03

  To this day.

• 24:26H. Foley?

  Holy shit.

• 24:27Speaker 01

  That's a, that's a first thing one.

• 24:28Speaker 03

  Car, baaaaa.

• 24:29Speaker 01

You only have, I've never met a, he's got his learner's permit.

• 24:33Speaker 03

  Car, I know, I just, I don't like driving.

• 24:35H. Foley?

  When you were coming up.

• 24:36Speaker 03

I was in a really bad car accident when we were kids. We were in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

• 24:40H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 24:40Speaker 03

You know those yellow, those trucks that say yellow, but they're actually an orange emblem?

• 24:45H. Foley?

  Yes, tractor trailers.

• 24:46Speaker 03

We got hit by one of those sons of bitches, eighteen wheeler going eighty, ninety miles an hour, hit us from behind. Our van flipped over like three times.

• 24:53Speaker 01

  Jesus.

• 24:54H. Foley?

  Whole family in there?

• 24:54Speaker 03

They brought out body bags, they thought we were dead and we all survived it.

• 24:57Speaker 01

  I wouldn't drive either, yeah.

• 24:59Speaker 03

So that combined with getting chewed, also my dad's a historically bad driver. So like something about my dad not being a great driver, us getting hit by a car, and me failing my first time I took the test at sixteen, seventeen. Some, some cocktail that made me go, no.

• 25:15Speaker 01

  Yeah, you're shell shocked.

• 25:16Speaker 03

But now I'm really, like, I love driving now, like, I wanna get my license. I intend to get it this year for the first time, but um.

• 25:23H. Foley?

Are you driving now with your permit?

• 25:26Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 25:26H. Foley?

You gotta have somebody in the car with you.

• 25:29Speaker 03

Yeah, you do. And it can't be like a five-year-old. It's gotta be like a real-

• 25:32Speaker 01

It's gotta be an adult. Gotta be a grown-up.

• 25:33Speaker 03

Grown folk. You know, maybe you'll get away with a blow-up doll, or, you know, as Kevin McCallister had that cardboard cut-out of Michael Jordan, maybe I get away with it.

• 25:41Speaker 01

It's you and MJ going to, going to Whole Foods?

• 25:44H. Foley?

He's got his permit. That's alright, man. Awesome dude. That's a homerun.

• 25:48Speaker 03

  It's probably garbage points.

• 25:50H. Foley?

Yeah, dude. What was the pet situation growing up?

• 25:54Speaker 03

I love that you said pet situation. Situation is we couldn't keep one because we all got tired of cleaning up shit and getting bit. Which also, uh, calls to mind a couple ex-wives.

• 26:08Speaker 03

Ah, tired of getting bitten. Uh, no, we, we had a lot of dogs. Um, a lot of them had to go bye-bye because, not bye-bye like we shot them in the backyard. I mean, like, we'd give them to someone. But we did have one really great dog named Ruby, and Ruby was a, uh, black lab.

• 26:26Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 26:26Speaker 03

We got it after the car accident, as if to like, like a therapy dog or something for the whole family. And that was great. That, that lasted a while.

• 26:33Speaker 01

Okay. Alright. Well, what was, uh, well, the grocery store growing up? Where'd you, where'd you-

• 26:38Speaker 03

Kroger, um, also known as Kessels in our hometown.

• 26:42Speaker 01

  Good establishment?

• 26:42Speaker 03

And then we did this place called Meyer, and Meyer was like, a bigger Kroger.

• 26:46Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 26:47Speaker 03

Um, but yeah, nothing, you know, nothing fancy. They weren't making sushi at the deli line. They were, these guys were handing you fritters and, you know, meat that looked like scrap metal.

• 26:59H. Foley?

Humble beginnings, I like. Is, is it ground beef or hamburger meat?

• 27:04Speaker 01

What do you refer to it as?

• 27:05Speaker 03

  Oh, ground beef.

• 27:06H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 27:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 27:07H. Foley?

  Gentleman.

• 27:08Speaker 01

And, uh, you may not have been, it might, you know, were you-

• 27:11Speaker 03

  Gentleman is so funny.

• 27:14H. Foley?

  Ground beef, man.

• 27:15Speaker 03

  So funny.

• 27:16Speaker 01

Gentleman from Saginaw. Uh, did you lean to, were you, growing up, are you guys more of a Pizza Hut family, or a Domino's household, or Little Caesar, or any, did you have an opinion on it?

• 27:24Speaker 03

Yeah, it's really none of your business.

• 27:27Speaker 03

  It's really not your business.

• 27:28Speaker 01

Political on him? My bad. He was talking about Dan Quayle.

• 27:30Speaker 03

We were, no, we were, we were Domino's growing up.

• 27:34Speaker 01

  Uh huh.

• 27:34Speaker 03

And then we fell off of Domino's before they made their public apology that last, that apology tour lasted a good four years.

• 27:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:41Speaker 03

Where they're like, we're sorry, we suck.

• 27:42Speaker 01

That was, but I respected as a court.

• 27:45Speaker 03

  Oh, oh.

• 27:45Speaker 01

Hey, we fucked up, we're getting back to it.

• 27:47Speaker 03

Today, their market evaluation is astronomical because of it. That was the turning point as the apology tour.

• 27:52Speaker 01

  I don't know, I can't get a read on this.

• 27:54Speaker 03

Chris Brown, you can learn something from Domino's.

• 27:55Speaker 01

Read on this guy, just dropped market cap on me.

• 27:58Speaker 03

But, um, but, but yeah, we started.

• 28:00Speaker 01

  Domino's though.

• 28:00Speaker 03

We started Domino's, then I got really into Little Caesars because it was cheap and it was trash and I was like, this is the best, five dollar, hot and ready.

• 28:08H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 28:09Speaker 03

Yeah, put it straight into my veins. That's how I became over, I, my highest, I hit 333 pounds.

• 28:15Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 28:16Speaker 03

And rest assured, that was a lot of Heineken and Little Caesars.

• 28:20Speaker 01

  Haha.

• 28:21Speaker 03

But now to this day, now.

• 28:22Speaker 01

  Heineken's classy though.

• 28:23Speaker 03

Now, I am very much a Domino's guy again. I've gone back to Domino's.

• 28:29Speaker 01

I'm the same way. I'm the, very much the same way. They, they are eons above Pizza Hut at the moment.

• 28:36Speaker 03

Pizza Hut went downhill when they got rid of their buffets.

• 28:39Speaker 01

  Not lying, man.

• 28:40Speaker 03

Yeah, but they do have Mountain Dew, God bless them.

• 28:42Speaker 01

And they, those buffets are coming back.

• 28:45Speaker 03

  Are they?

• 28:45Speaker 01

They're, they're making, they're making a push because like, you know, so many things are going retro and stuff like that and, uh, they're, they're popping up more and more.

• 28:52H. Foley?

Was there a frozen pizza that you preferred at the house?

• 28:56Speaker 03

  Oh, wow.

• 28:57H. Foley?

And was that something in the house?

• 28:59Speaker 03

I had a family that I was very close with and I'm to this day, they're called the Hinz's and the Hinz's were obsessed with Jack's frozen pizza.

• 29:07Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 29:08Speaker 03

Jack's was cheap as hell. It was like 250. They had like five kids, you know?

• 29:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 29:12Speaker 03

They had to make a buck, you know, stretch.

• 29:14Speaker 01

  I've never heard of Jack's.

• 29:15Speaker 03

Also, I was at their house most of the time and I ate a bunch of their food. So, yeah, Jack's pizza was the go-to, but now that I'm like, now that I'm a fancy adult and I got a little bit of kachish. I don't buy Jacks, I don't buy Jacks anymore. Now I'm more of like, now I'll go, I'll go straight up DiGiorno with stuffed crust.

• 29:34Speaker 01

Rising crust, yeah, very nice. Huh.

• 29:36Speaker 03

Maybe a gluten free from like a Trader Joe's.

• 29:39H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 29:39Speaker 03

It's got some prosciutto and arugula.

• 29:41H. Foley?

  Cauli power, something like that.

• 29:43Speaker 01

  Cauli powers, alright, cauliflower pizza.

• 29:45Speaker 03

I have gout, so I can't eat cauliflower.

• 29:47H. Foley?

No kidding, you have gout? Well, have you had it your whole life, or did you develop it?

• 29:51Speaker 03

I contracted it when I was 25, working at a bowling alley in my hometown.

• 29:54Speaker 01

Sounds like you got stabbed with a needle or something, I contracted it.

• 29:56Speaker 03

Well, I did contract it, it's a fucking disease, give me a break, man.

• 30:01H. Foley?

  He's got gout, that's perfect.

• 30:02Speaker 03

  It sucks, man.

• 30:02Speaker 01

  Well, can it go away?

• 30:04Speaker 03

I couldn't, I didn't know what it was, so I just couldn't walk one day when I was leaving my bowling alley job at midnight, wanted to blow my brains out. I, I was walking back to my brother's house, which is like a quarter mile of, away from the bowling alley, I just walked to work. And I had to walk back at midnight with gout, and I could barely move. I get there, and I just got so stoned, and I was like, I'll just get really high. And that will make the gout go away, and it did for a time, then I woke up and was in excruciating pain, and found out I contracted this thing. And I've had it for 13 years, and with the weight loss, and I'm now sober, it's easy to kind of control it, it doesn't flare up as much.

• 30:44H. Foley?

Where did it settle in on you, was it in your toe?

• 30:46Speaker 03

  Toe, man.

• 30:47H. Foley?

My, my cousin has it in, has it in his toe. It's brutal.

• 30:50Speaker 03

It can make a strong man cry.

• 30:52H. Foley?

He said he can't even put a sheet on his toe, he'd be in agonizing pain.

• 30:56Speaker 03

My wife has seen me once in the last year, year and a half, cry hard from the pain of gout.

• 31:03H. Foley?

  Damn. Yikes.

• 31:05Speaker 01

That being said, bagel bites or pizza rolls?

• 31:08H. Foley?

Did you have milk with dinner growing up? Were you a big milk family?

• 31:11Speaker 03

  Um.

• 31:11H. Foley?

  Had to be.

• 31:12Speaker 03

First off, I gotta answer the first question.

• 31:14Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, I mean, you're blowing past the.

• 31:16Speaker 03

Pizza rolls for sure, but I gotta be honest, I recently had pizza rolls in the last year.

• 31:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:23Speaker 03

Cause now I only have them once or twice a year, and I'll be like, oh, this isn't, thank God, I don't do this, it's disgusting.

• 31:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, they're bad.

• 31:29Speaker 03

I, I pepper them with Parmesan cheese, I dip them in ranch, they are still psychotically gross. They are disgusting. I swear against them. I also, by the way, Buffalo Wild Wings, garbage wings.

• 31:42Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 31:43Speaker 03

  Garbage ass wings.

• 31:43Speaker 01

I don't think I've ever had them, but that makes sense.

• 31:46Speaker 03

I don't do it anymore. By the way, if you're listening, please go on YouTube and look up, um, wait, who's the head of the health department now?

• 31:54Speaker 01

  No, I don't know.

• 31:55Speaker 03

  The Kennedy.

• 31:56Speaker 01

You're talking to the wrong chef. Oh, RFK.

• 31:58Speaker 03

Look up Pizza Rolls RFK Jr., you will find the funniest video of a guy doing RFK Jr., his voice, and eating pizza rolls pretending to hide them from his wife Cheryl. That's the funniest thing I've ever seen. Were we a milk family? You bet your sweet ass.

• 32:12Speaker 01

  Yeah. Midwest family?

• 32:13Speaker 03

We drank a lot of milk. And my mom got us into skim milk. And I hated skim milk. It tasted like water.

• 32:19Speaker 01

  Hated it.

• 32:19Speaker 03

And eventually, that same family, the Hinz's, who got me onto Jack's Pizza, they got me back onto real milk.

• 32:24Speaker 01

That sounds like a good family.

• 32:25Speaker 03

They was like, "Come drink this dirty milk and eat our dirty pizza with us." And I was like, "Hell, yeah."

• 32:29H. Foley?

Would you have milk with Italian food? Like, do you like milk with spaghetti?

• 32:33Speaker 03

I would have milk with meatloaf, Italian.

• 32:36H. Foley?

This guy's alright, man. He's alright. He's alright. I don't know what the Italian...

• 32:40Speaker 03

Glass of cold milk with a hot meal.

• 32:42Speaker 01

So, yeah, I mean, that was like one of the first AYG questions. It's, that's pure trash. Now, will you like, uh, it is. Will you, uh, tchotchke up, uh, a frozen pizza? Will you put your own toppings on and then put it in? Or do you just go...

• 32:57Speaker 03

It depends on the pie. If it's really bland, if it's really, if it's really bland, yeah, I'm busting out the shredded Sargento, I'm busting out the red pepper flakes, I'm busting out maybe some garlic powder or garlic salt.

• 33:13Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 33:13H. Foley?

  Sargento, huh?

• 33:14Speaker 01

  Little extra cheese in.

• 33:15H. Foley?

You do got money. I like some Sargento.

• 33:18Speaker 01

  That ain't great.

• 33:19Speaker 03

  Life has been good.

• 33:21Speaker 01

I got $4.99 for cheese, baby.

• 33:24H. Foley?

What was the mayo growing up? Was it Hellmann's? Was it Miracle Whip?

• 33:27Speaker 03

See, once again, my dad was... My dad is pro Miracle Whip. We would have Miracle Whip on our fish sticks and our sandwiches.

• 33:39Speaker 01

  What?

• 33:40Speaker 03

Butt, butt, butt, butt. The Hinz's turned me on the mayo. They were always there to pick up the pieces.

• 33:46Speaker 01

Man, talk about lost and found. The Hinz's are the way.

• 33:49H. Foley?

I like it. Was the butter on the counter or was it in the fridge growing up?

• 33:53Speaker 01

  Mardren family.

• 33:55H. Foley?

Had to be. You got country crock written all over you.

• 33:58Speaker 03

No, my dad would never allow it.

• 34:00Speaker 01

  I guess, yeah.

• 34:00Speaker 03

We were, we were, uh, we were butter and it was on the counter to, uh, to get soft.

• 34:05H. Foley?

  I love it.

• 34:05Speaker 01

Respect it. Uh huh. You said you worked at a bowling alley. That's, let's, uh,

• 34:11H. Foley?

  That's sus.

• 34:11Speaker 01

  That's, that ain't great unless you owned it. That's a, that's a tough.

• 34:15H. Foley?

  What was your role there?

• 34:17Speaker 03

I think even if your family owns a bowling alley, you're still garbage. You're just, you're just wealthier garbage.

• 34:22Speaker 01

  Sure, yeah.

• 34:23Speaker 03

Yeah, uh, that's like, yeah. Um, sorry, what was the question?

• 34:26Speaker 01

What was, what was the role there? Jack of all trades, maybe.

• 34:29Speaker 03

Uh, no, I, I, I was basically barred from the bowling alley. They, they kept me in the arcade room where snot and those brats would be like, "The prize didn't come out." I would have to grab the key and, you know, buy some tickets and everything.

• 34:43H. Foley?

My toes killing me, kid. Shut up.

• 34:45Speaker 03

Uh, we also had like a game.

• 34:46Speaker 01

I got three plays this week.

• 34:48Speaker 03

  We had a giant.

• 34:50Speaker 01

You think I need this shit?

• 34:53Speaker 01

I gotta walk to my brother. I still got my learner's permit.

• 34:56H. Foley?

You ever heard of Key and Peele, huh, punk? Get your own spider ring. I got the gout.

• 35:01Speaker 03

I almost, I almost blacked out just over laughing.

• 35:04Speaker 01

  He needs carbs, this guy.

• 35:06Speaker 03

Oh my God, that was so funny. Oh man, I just want to be on this show so I can hear you guys talk for an hour. It's so funny, man. You just made, you just made the biggest fan. I'm gonna tell everyone to do this show.

• 35:17Speaker 01

  Thank you. Thank you.

• 35:18Speaker 03

Oh my God. No, we, I worked in the arcade and there was a gang like turf brawl one time. All these teenagers were fighting and they broke the glass and shattered all the glass where the prizes were and everything. It was terrifying. We had cops who worked security, off-duty cops.

• 35:34Speaker 01

So you were in the arcade?

• 35:36Speaker 03

  It was a bad scene.

• 35:38H. Foley?

  Sounds like a nice place.

• 35:39Speaker 01

He just looked me dead in the eye like he was talking about Vietnam. It was a bad scene, man. You don't know, you don't know what I've been through.

• 35:45Speaker 03

  That was my Vietnam.

• 35:47Speaker 01

Okay. Have you ever owned, were you a bowler at all? Was that a record? Did you ever own your own bowling ball is a question?

• 35:52H. Foley?

  Could you throw rocks?

• 35:52Speaker 03

Never owned my own bowling ball. My brother was a fantastic bowler. To this day still is. Um, has bowled like a 300 and all that crap. But, uh, oh, you know who's famous from Saginaw is that bowler?

• 36:05Speaker 01

Pete Weber? Who do you think you are, I am?

• 36:07Speaker 03

I forget his name, but if you-

• 36:09Speaker 01

  That's the, that's the bowler.

• 36:10Speaker 03

Can you Google bowler Saginaw, famous bowler Saginaw, Michigan? I think his name's Tom Smallwood.

• 36:15Speaker 01

Oh, that's a good bowler name.

• 36:17Speaker 03

It's a great bowler name, not a great human name.

• 36:19Speaker 01

  No, it's a-

• 36:21Speaker 03

  But yeah, he, um, he-

• 36:24Speaker 01

  Tom Smallwood.

• 36:25Speaker 03

Was a big deal from our town. So my brother got really into bowling. I sucked. My brother always tried to teach me bowling. He's like, you know, just throw it straight like you're throwing a glass of water over your shoulder. You're just holding it like that. I was like, I can't do it. I can't do it consistently. I kept crossing my body.

• 36:39Speaker 01

I cross. You don't cross. You go back.

• 36:41Speaker 03

That's why you get a gutter.

• 36:42Speaker 01

  Sure. Um-

• 36:43Speaker 03

The collective you. I don't mean you, Kevin.

• 36:45Speaker 01

Hey, you, I felt that. I felt it got very personal.

• 36:48H. Foley?

  Gutterball Ryan over here.

• 36:50Speaker 01

  Um, who was-

• 36:52Speaker 03

I thought you were Kevin. Are you Ryan?

• 36:54Speaker 01

  No, it's Kevin Ryan. Yeah.

• 36:55Speaker 03

  Yeah, you're Kevin, you're Henry.

• 36:56H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 36:57Speaker 03

  He's Ryan.

• 36:58Speaker 01

  No, the other guy's Ryan.

• 37:00Speaker 03

  The other guy's Ryan. You're-

• 37:02H. Foley?

That's Tommy Smallwood. What are you talking about?

• 37:04Speaker 01

  Junior, the third.

• 37:06Speaker 03

  I apologize.

• 37:06Speaker 01

No, that's Luke. That's new guy Luke. Um-

• 37:08Speaker 03

  Luke.

• 37:09Speaker 01

What, uh, who was the, who was the most famous person you met prior to getting on the movie set? And it could have been like a local celebrity. It could have been like the radio guy, you know? Who was the first kind of, uh, famous character that you've met?

• 37:24Speaker 03

There were some people that came in and out of our town, uh, like, that just sounds so sketchy. Sounds like Christopher Lloyd in Dennis the Menace. He just came in and out of our town.

• 37:33Speaker 01

Man, he scared the hell out of me.

• 37:35Speaker 03

  Guy had a knife and-

• 37:36Speaker 01

And ate apples and lifted purses from the playground.

• 37:39Speaker 03

So funny. Um, I, I met like Gordy Howe.

• 37:43Speaker 01

  Whoa, that's a good one.

• 37:46Speaker 03

I met, uh, I think, I think I like slapped hands with like Booker T when I was at a wrestling show.

• 37:53Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 37:53Speaker 03

Buff Bagwell. There were a couple of little moments like that, but, but, um, when I went to New York, I went and saw theater. That was like, our family was very pro like Broadway. So when I was in LA, I would always go to shows. My parents took me to Les Mis. It was one of the splashiest, more expensive things our family ever got to do, you know, when I was a kid. And um, one year, I took spring break when I was 18 years old in New York City. Stayed with my siblings who were going to school in White Plains. And I met Jeff Goldblum and Billy Crudup and Matt Dillon. They were like people I'd just run into in the city or we would go see their shows and you know, wait in line afterwards to get an autograph or whatever.

• 38:35H. Foley?

  Very good.

• 38:36Speaker 03

  Yeah, it was cool.

• 38:36H. Foley?

  It's a good lineup. That's pretty good.

• 38:39Speaker 03

I remember I asked Jeff Goldblum for acting advice and he goes, um, yeah, just, um, act, you know, act every day. And I was like, I don't, I don't know if that's real advice.

• 38:51Speaker 01

Alright, thanks man. I get it.

• 38:53Speaker 03

He had two like attractive women shouting his name. And I'll never forget, he was signing autographs, like VHS tapes of powder and shit. And uh, and he looked up and he goes, oh, I am getting lucky tonight. He said something like that like in front of us and I was like, what?

• 39:11Speaker 01

It's like, dude, that's out of a movie.

• 39:12H. Foley?

  I don't think Goldblum, that's awesome.

• 39:14Speaker 03

It's like a, it's like an entourage moment.

• 39:17Speaker 01

Yeah, it is. It's like, why do you need to know that? Like, that could have just been a thought in his head.

• 39:21Speaker 03

  I was a kid.

• 39:22Speaker 01

Like, dude, I gotta beat the bowling alley by five, buddy. Harry it up.

• 39:26Speaker 03

I got three plays this week that killed me. Alright, well, I really, I need to take this quiz, keep going.

• 39:32Speaker 01

Sure. Have you ever skied in jeans? I'm sorry.

• 39:34H. Foley?

  No.

• 39:34Speaker 03

  Never skied, period.

• 39:36Speaker 01

That's okay, that's uh, not great.

• 39:39H. Foley?

  When'd you get your passport?

• 39:40Speaker 03

You know, Sonny Bono died from skiing. Some of us have abstained.

• 39:44Speaker 01

  Sure have.

• 39:45Speaker 03

First time I got my passport was when I booked a pilot in Vancouver, Canada. That was fall of 2016.

• 39:54H. Foley?

  Okay, that's good.

• 39:55Speaker 01

  That's so, yeah, that's older.

• 39:58H. Foley?

  Yeah, that's alright.

• 39:59Speaker 03

Yeah, I was, I mean, that would have been nine, I would have been late twenties.

• 40:04Speaker 01

  Late twenties.

• 40:06Speaker 03

  Twenty nine thirty.

• 40:07Speaker 01

Growing up, what'd you call the remote? Uh, was it the remote or the clicker?

• 40:10H. Foley?

  Well, the channel changer.

• 40:12Speaker 01

  Is that where you really?

• 40:13Speaker 03

No, no, I called it the remote.

• 40:14Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 40:15H. Foley?

  Scared me for a second.

• 40:16Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 40:17H. Foley?

Channel changer. Yikes. Do you own any turquoise jewelry?

• 40:20Speaker 03

  Clicker is very Philly.

• 40:21H. Foley?

  Very.

• 40:22Speaker 01

  Clicker, clicker.

• 40:23H. Foley?

  Turquoise jewelry, own any?

• 40:25Speaker 03

  No.

• 40:27H. Foley?

  Alright, take it easy.

• 40:28Speaker 01

I like the attitude. Uh, growing up-

• 40:31H. Foley?

Who said I do? Who you been talking to?

• 40:33Speaker 01

Gets all defensive. Um, did you have any aunts or uncles you didn't refer to by their real names such as like, you know, an Aunt Toody, an Aunt Suppy, an Uncle, you know, Railroad or something, I don't know. Uncle Tracks?

• 40:46Speaker 03

No, no, we were, we, we were just people.

• 40:49Speaker 01

  Okay, fair enough.

• 40:50H. Foley?

Okay. Let's talk about now a little bit. Let's talk about what's going on now. You pee in the shower?

• 40:57Speaker 03

  Um, not regularly.

• 40:58H. Foley?

Okay, you brush your teeth in there?

• 41:01Speaker 03

  Uh, no, not anymore.

• 41:02H. Foley?

  Okay. You flossing every day?

• 41:04Speaker 03

I do, I love flossing, actually. I like grew to like it now. I love it.

• 41:09Speaker 01

Good, good. Uh, how many suits do you own? I would assume a good amount.

• 41:12H. Foley?

  Yeah, I got a few.

• 41:14Speaker 03

Suits that I've purchased, probably five. Suits that I own just from like having to do press and stuff. And like eventually didn't pay for them. I probably own a total of ten or twelve suits.

• 41:24Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 41:25H. Foley?

Couple of nice ones, I'd assume?

• 41:26Speaker 03

A couple are really nice, too.

• 41:27H. Foley?

Yeah? Where are you living at now?

• 41:29Speaker 03

Some are too gaudy and you can't wear them ever again. You're like, well, that was the night I went to the Craig's Choice Awards or whatever.

• 41:34Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 41:34Speaker 03

  Where am I living?

• 41:35H. Foley?

  Yeah, where you at?

• 41:36Speaker 03

  I'm in, uh, Atlanta, Georgia.

• 41:37H. Foley?

  You're in Atlanta, Georgia?

• 41:39Speaker 03

Been there for about six months and, uh-

• 41:40Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 41:41Speaker 03

We're going for a third kid and we got pregnant. We were like, let's not keep spending this money in LA and let's save a buck or two in Georgia. And also-

• 41:50Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 41:51Speaker 03

When you're on the road a lot like I am, you, you want your wife to feel protected. She has way more family and friends-

• 41:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:56Speaker 03

-to come in and help out and be the community of support she needs while I'm gone.

• 42:00H. Foley?

Okay. Did you build this house?

• 42:02Speaker 03

  Nope.

• 42:03H. Foley?

  No?

• 42:03Speaker 03

  No.

• 42:04H. Foley?

Was this your first big house purchase?

• 42:07Speaker 03

Didn't purchase it. We're renting to own because we didn't have enough, uh, we, we wanted, we didn't want to be cash poor after buying it.

• 42:13Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 42:14Speaker 03

You know, so I'm, I'm still waiting for an accumulation of jobs. Like I, I still have to pay really crazy weird SAG dues where like twice a year, a percentage of what I make, I have to give back to SAG and then I have an agent manager, attorney and business manager to take percentages.

• 42:29Speaker 01

They all wet their feet, yeah.

• 42:30Speaker 03

I always give to church or some sort of charity, obviously.

• 42:33Speaker 01

  Good guy.

• 42:34Speaker 03

And then I also- Taxes, I always forget about taxes.

• 42:39Speaker 01

  You and me both, sister.

• 42:40Speaker 03

I'm up to date on them, thank God, but I just mean, I'm not in a Wesley Snipes scenario, but I'm like, I'm very much like, I forget how costly everything is.

• 42:49Speaker 01

Yeah, that's you are not lying.

• 42:51Speaker 03

So I'm not, I'm not poor, but I don't have a ton of savings either.

• 42:54H. Foley?

Okay, you're renting to own. All right, okay, all right.

• 42:58Speaker 03

  Shared way too much.

• 43:00Speaker 01

  I love it, that's awesome.

• 43:01Speaker 03

I felt the, you know what, I thought you guys were gonna say I was garbage for renting to own.

• 43:05H. Foley?

  Oh, you are.

• 43:05Speaker 01

  Oh, no, for sure.

• 43:06H. Foley?

  100%.

• 43:07Speaker 03

I felt I needed to explain myself.

• 43:08Speaker 01

No, for sure, yeah, no, that's, that is the tragic.

• 43:11H. Foley?

  I assumed you were loaded.

• 43:18H. Foley?

  It's all that sargent, though.

• 43:19Speaker 03

Young and dumb and full of debt.

• 43:24Speaker 03

  Sargent is why we're poor.

• 43:26Speaker 01

Back to Jax's Pizza or whatever.

• 43:28Speaker 03

Is this actually from Vermont? What's happening?

• 43:32Speaker 01

Oh, how do you feel about the rotisserie chicken? You said you're off the carbs?

• 43:37Speaker 03

Pro rotisserie, but only from a place like, like Whole Foods. I don't go like, I'm not gonna go to a Vons or something and buy it.

• 43:44Speaker 01

  A lower end, $4 bird.

• 43:46Speaker 03

That bird, the bird is not the word, if you're getting it from, from that place.

• 43:50Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 43:51H. Foley?

Was there a, was there a first big check that you got? Do you remember your first big check?

• 43:59Speaker 01

I mean, it could have been a lot, it could have been $4,000 at a time when you didn't have the money.

• 44:04Speaker 03

Yeah, I guess in that regard, my first big check was, um, was, uh, God, well, it was the first movie I did. I made like 10 grand from Virginia. I worked like four weeks and I suddenly overnight like had more money than I ever seen in my life.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 44:20H. Foley?

Did you make any silly purchases when you got that cash, or are you sharp with money?

• 44:24Speaker 03

Yeah, how about eating out every day? For a year and a half.

• 44:28H. Foley?

Those little Caesars add up, huh?

• 44:31Speaker 03

I wish it was Little Sees, I would've stayed in LA longer, first time.

• 44:34Speaker 01

Are you a bit of a foodie? Do you like going to like a nice place?

• 44:37H. Foley?

  You like a nice dinner?

• 44:38Speaker 01

Or are you still just doing like, middle of the road type stuff?

• 44:41Speaker 03

A little of both, I mean, I'm, you know, I love a hot dog at a sporting event, but I also, you know, legitimately love going to a fine dining restaurant somewhere, you know? I've been to one Michelin restaurant in my life, I took my parents, my buddy Peter Hens, from the Hens family.

• 44:56Speaker 01

  Shout out to Hens's.

• 44:57Speaker 03

  Shout out to Hens's.

• 44:58H. Foley?

  Just go boys with him?

• 44:59Speaker 03

  I took them, yeah, yeah.

• 45:00H. Foley?

  That's awesome.

• 45:01Speaker 01

Dude, you meet a guy like that who pulls you into the good life, you don't, you don't.

• 45:03Speaker 03

Yeah, that's awesome. No, Peter's one of the funniest humans alive, I moved to LA with him, and he's since moved back, but I, I took them to Providence, this seafood place in LA.

• 45:14Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 45:14Speaker 03

It's Michelin starred, and I think I, man, it must've ran me like, 3,000 for the four of us.

• 45:19Speaker 01

  Woo!

• 45:21Speaker 03

But, but it was one of the top two, three best meals I've ever had in my life, it was insane. No, no, that's not true, top five, top five, that's me wanting to say top three.

• 45:30Speaker 01

Because you spent so much money?

• 45:31Speaker 03

  To justify the money, sure.

• 45:32Speaker 01

Alright, well, since you, you can move it, three to five, what are the top five?

Oh god, there's a place in Austin, Texas, and I don't remember the name, but we were treated there by Apple TV when we were evading a hurricane incoming to New Orleans while shooting Blackbird. Me and Taren and some of the cast and crew got flown on a private jet to Austin, Texas, to avoid the hurricane, and we got taken out to dinner one night at this Japanese restaurant. And I purposely, I knew we weren't gonna have to pay for it, and I purposely racked up.

• 46:05Speaker 01

  Dirtbag move, respect it.

• 46:06Speaker 03

I purposely racked up, like, they were literally like, can you bring the check? And I was like, also bring that snow crab.

• 46:13Speaker 01

To go, wrap up doing them lobsters.

• 46:14Speaker 03

I was like, you forgot my snow crab, you son of a bitch.

• 46:18H. Foley?

  Keep the uni coming.

• 46:19Speaker 03

Yeah, I, I had, that was probably number one, that was the greatest meal of my life.

• 46:23Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 46:24Speaker 03

And, uh, I forget the name, I gotta look it up. Also, just like, dude, just like, there's something about a good smash burger.

• 46:33H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 46:33Speaker 03

I had a great smash burger in Chicago at a diner that's no longer there. But I think it was in Des Plaines or Oak Park, and it was called the Harlow Grill. And we would go there late at night, me, Peter Hens, James Morgan, my buddy who's now a professional driver in Chicago and owns a boat service. That guy, we would go together and we would eat. We would just sit around this diner, there was nobody there. It looked like a movie set or something, like this old school diner, and eat the best smash burger you've ever had.

• 47:04H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 47:05Speaker 01

  Love it.

• 47:05H. Foley?

  He's alright, man.

• 47:06Speaker 01

Are you a bite and sip guy? Will you take a bite of the burger, then a sip of Diet Coke or whatever you're drinking, or no?

• 47:12Speaker 03

I think I'm a bite and sip because there's almost something Pavlovian to wanting it to go down in a comfortable manner, down the throat, down the esophagus.

• 47:21H. Foley?

  He gets it.

• 47:22Speaker 03

Also, I love pairing, right? Like, when I did, I'm sober, but when I drank red wine, I used to, man, pairing a good Cabernet with a pasta or a...

• 47:33H. Foley?

  So good.

• 47:33Speaker 03

  Or a...

• 47:34H. Foley?

  Cheese.

• 47:35Speaker 03

Yeah, anything Italian, or a good steak. It was so fun.

• 47:38H. Foley?

They say it in Rat Tatu, like, when they combine in your mouth, it becomes something else.

• 47:42Speaker 03

Wonderful movie, by the way. I love that one. I, to this day, I still drink non-alcoholic beers, so if I have, like, a good burger or a good slice of pizza with an NA beer, it still feels like I'm having the same experience.

• 47:56H. Foley?

How do you get your steak cooked?

• 47:59Speaker 03

Oh, man. So many times when I go out to eat, I do the thing where we family style it, not to wear anyone's detriment, but to usually where you get to try, you get to try three meals and you still have leftovers. So I order a lot of food whenever I'm with people, so I have to be conscious of how I order the steak to try to please everybody. But my personal steak is, like, a medium rare to a medium with Pittsburgh-style grill on the outside. If I can char it a little bit and get it crispier on the outside.

• 48:31H. Foley?

Best possible answer you could have given. Thank God.

• 48:34Speaker 01

  Live to fight another day.

• 48:36H. Foley?

Okay. You like a deviled egg?

• 48:39Speaker 03

Love a deviled egg. By the way, I didn't even eat a deviled egg until the first time I had a deviled egg was at Park City at Sundance Film Festival at the High West Whiskey Restaurant. And I had a The hell are these? Egg for the first time in my life and it was so damn good. I thought, what have I been missing out on? I always usurped them or, you know, averted them because they looked weird. At family gatherings, you'd see them in picnics. But god, they're good. They're so versatile, too. You can put anything on them.

• 49:09H. Foley?

Will you dance at a wedding?

• 49:10Speaker 03

Uh, will I? I'm the reason people dance at weddings.

• 49:13H. Foley?

  Okay, alright.

• 49:14Speaker 03

  I get the people going.

• 49:15Speaker 01

Yeah, get the people going, huh?

• 49:17H. Foley?

Let's say if you had a wedding coming up, alright, very close friend of the family.

• 49:21Speaker 03

By the way, I don't dance at a wedding. I dance at a wedding reception. Dancing at a wedding would be very weird.

• 49:26Speaker 01

  That's very rude.

• 49:28H. Foley?

  Get him out of here.

• 49:29Speaker 03

Guy's trying to make it about himself again.

• 49:31Speaker 01

  We get it, he's Hollywood.

• 49:32H. Foley?

Does anybody object? You're doing the worm down the aisle?

• 49:34Speaker 03

Sorry, we missed Super Troopers 2, you asshat.

• 49:38H. Foley?

Uh, gift at a wedding. Cash? You a cash man? You give cash?

• 49:43Speaker 03

My wife's a gift thing, but I think cash is king for most gifts.

• 49:46H. Foley?

What are we talking about here? A close friend?

• 49:49Speaker 03

A close frie- I mean, it depends on the friend. Yeah, I, I once gave my buddy Caleb Wall, like, I just like Venmo'd him a thousand bucks.

• 49:59Speaker 01

I love that you gave a small date.

• 50:01Speaker 03

He was like dri- he was having a drink and he was, he was the groom and he was talking about like, uh, he was talking about like, man, I really want a computer that I can just take apart and I, he was like, talking about it passionately, but said he didn't have the money for it. And I was just like, boom.

• 50:14H. Foley?

  Great answer.

• 50:15Speaker 01

  Love that.

• 50:16H. Foley?

  You're alright.

• 50:16Speaker 01

Did it via Venmo, dirtbag. Good, his heart's in the right place. Uh, I mean, listen, we gotta get him out of here in a minute. Have you ever owned a butterfly knife or a switchblade?

• 50:27Speaker 03

  Um...

• 50:28Speaker 01

  Nunchucks?

• 50:29Speaker 03

No, just a Swiss Army knife.

• 50:30Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 50:31Speaker 03

And I once brought it to school to show a friend because I thought it was cool. And they freaked out and were like, your kid can't bring a knife to school.

• 50:37Speaker 01

Yeah, that's how they get you.

• 50:38Speaker 03

I was like, I wasn't gonna use it. This was like 97 or something.

• 50:41H. Foley?

Everybody play it cool. Um, do you know karate?

• 50:46Speaker 03

  No.

• 50:47H. Foley?

Never went to Tiger Schulman's or anything like that?

• 50:49Speaker 03

Tiger Schulman's? God, the specificity here is just ripe. Um, no, no, no. I, I know pro wrestling. I know DDTs.

• 50:59H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 50:59Speaker 03

  And Jaxxus.

• 51:00H. Foley?

Uh, is there any fireworks in your home currently?

• 51:03Speaker 03

  No.

• 51:04Speaker 01

Hmm. You open your eyes underwater?

• 51:06Speaker 03

  Not usually.

• 51:07Speaker 01

Okay. Ever pull a fire alarm?

• 51:10Speaker 03

No, but I've thought about it.

• 51:12H. Foley?

You got a Swiffer at the house?

• 51:15Speaker 03

No, no, we got some, we got some more scaled up stuff.

• 51:18H. Foley?

Okay. What's the vacuum cleaner? You got Dyson? You got Dyson at the house?

• 51:22Speaker 03

I don't know what it is, to be honest. I'm not sure. We have a, we just have a couple of vacuums that are like, well, I love the hand vacuum, just because I have two kids, so you know, you give them one cookie, it's in seven rooms, so it helps to have that thing.

• 51:36H. Foley?

You got a pool at the house?

• 51:37Speaker 03

  We do.

• 51:38H. Foley?

  Uh, hot tub?

• 51:39Speaker 03

You didn't, dude, you're failing your own test here. You have to ask someone above or below.

• 51:44Speaker 01

I assume the guy like you, it's in ground, but isn't it above?

• 51:47Speaker 03

It's, it's in ground, but you gotta ask the garbage question.

• 51:51H. Foley?

Is, is the hot tub connected to it?

• 51:53Speaker 03

Um, we don't have a hot tub.

• 51:55H. Foley?

Okay, that's where I was going. If the hot tub's connected, I know it's an in-ground pool.

• 52:00Speaker 01

No, if it's not connected. Oh, if it is connected, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 52:02Speaker 03

We also have a cold plunge and red light therapy.

• 52:05Speaker 01

Is it a real cold plunge or one you made? And if so, if so, what is that container you're getting?

• 52:10Speaker 03

No, it's, it's from the brand plunge.

• 52:12H. Foley?

  Nice.

• 52:13Speaker 01

Very nice. Kids, go, ah, listen, you're both in both worlds.

• 52:16H. Foley?

What are you sleeping in? Undies? Pyjamas?

• 52:19Speaker 03

Um, I, I vastly prefer just sleeping in a pair of boxers, but on occasion, uh, I will just, I'll have some, like some jam jams, some jammies.

• 52:29H. Foley?

  Sleep in your socks?

• 52:30Speaker 03

Like, like a pair of light sweatpants with a t-shirt maybe.

• 52:34H. Foley?

  Very nice.

• 52:34Speaker 03

  Never sleep in socks. That's a no-no.

• 52:36H. Foley?

Sleep on your side, pillow between your legs, one under your head?

• 52:38Speaker 03

No, I'm not a pregnant woman. I sleep on my stomach, like most men that look like me.

• 52:44H. Foley?

I thought we were gonna be friends.

• 52:45Speaker 03

Do I have that, yeah, probably?

• 52:46Speaker 01

  Probably.

• 52:47Speaker 03

Probably, I'm not taking the test.

• 52:48H. Foley?

  No, no CPAP?

• 52:50Speaker 01

Have you ever considered yourself good at laser tag?

• 52:53Speaker 03

No, I was always bad at it. It really bummed me out.

• 52:56Speaker 01

I mean, I, yeah. Listen, kids, kids trash. I don't know what to tell you.

• 53:00H. Foley?

All the Emmys and Golden Globes in the world.

• 53:03Speaker 03

Oh, a decent, decent at putt putt, though.

• 53:05Speaker 01

That putt putt is the trashier name to miniature golf.

• 53:09H. Foley?

  Very nice.

• 53:11Speaker 01

Yeah, the awards aren't gonna save you.

• 53:13H. Foley?

The kid's trash. But man, what a home run. What an awesome dude.

• 53:18Speaker 03

Where am I on the scale? Is there a number?

• 53:20Speaker 01

You're up there. I mean, you're Midwest trash. Which is different than northeast trash.

• 53:26Speaker 03

  Like a 78 out of 100 probably.

• 53:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:29H. Foley?

Retten to own. I mean, you're a proper movie star and you're retten to own. You got the gout.

• 53:38H. Foley?

All right, remember the gout? You got the gout, the bowling alley.

• 53:40Speaker 01

  Bowling alley, learner's permit.

• 53:42Speaker 03

Retten to own, you got the gout.

• 53:44H. Foley?

If it wasn't for your buddy Paul's family, you'd be screwed.

• 53:49Speaker 03

Oh, man. Henry's hysterical. Kevin Ryan's not bad either. And Luke is nice to look at.

• 53:57Speaker 01

A little soft on the eyes.

• 53:58Speaker 03

Don't get me started on the Ryan in the other room I barely met.

• 54:02H. Foley?

Gang, the movie is The Luckiest Man in America. It's in theaters right now. It is absolutely fantastic. Buddy, we can't say this enough.

• 54:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:10H. Foley?

  Congratulations.

• 54:11Speaker 01

  It's awesome, man.

• 54:11H. Foley?

You're killing it. It's awesome to see. You're fantastic in everything that you're in. Comedy, drama, everything you do. This movie is unbelievable. Everybody, go see The Luckiest Man in America. 100% garbage.

• 54:25Speaker 01

  Trash.

• 54:25H. Foley?

  Paul Walter Hauser.

• 54:27Speaker 01

Yeah, thank you, buddy. Appreciate you.

• 54:28H. Foley?

Thank you, buddy. Kip, what do you got for him?

• 54:30Speaker 01

Uh, guys, the card game's still available at allyourgarbage.com. You can play with all your friends and family and stuff like that. They're moving, so get them soon, and we love yous.

• 54:38H. Foley?

Paul, we love you. Gang, we love you, and we'll see you next week.

• 54:40Speaker 03

  Peace.
