Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Switch 2

This week, it's all about the Nintendo Switch 2! Except for when it isn't. Marques, Andrew, and David first start off by recapping some of their favorite April Fools' jokes before discussing what it means that YouTube is changing how it counts views for YouTube Shorts. Then they talk about people using ChatGPT 4o to Studio Ghibli-fy themselves before finally getting into everything Nintendo Switch 2. There's a lot to go over but it's a fun one! Enjoy! Support for the show comes from JIRA by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that JIRA solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together from JIRA, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With JIRA, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who,

Didn't we see like a million concurrent streams on the? It was just the US one. 1.2 million concurrent on YouTube during the live stream today.

• 1:41Andrew Manganelli?

For only the Nintendo US. There was Nintendo UK, which also had like 200,000 viewers.

• 1:47David Imel?

They just said Nintendo Switch 2 in it. That was the whole thing.

• 1:52Andrew Manganelli?

  I think they used pounds.

• 1:59Speaker 01

What is up people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Nintendo Switch 2 Podcast. We're your hosts, I'm Marquez.

• 2:05David Imel?

  I'm Andrew.

• 2:06Andrew Manganelli?

  And I'm David.

• 2:07Speaker 01

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2. And a couple of things happened this week, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, Nintendo Switch 2 games.

• 2:16David Imel?

  Cameras.

• 2:17Speaker 01

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons. But let's start with Nintendo Switch 2. Actually, no. Let's talk about April Fool's Day.

• 2:24Andrew Manganelli?

  April Fools!

• 2:26Speaker 01

April Fool's Day was also this week.

• 2:27David Imel?

  It did come out, though.

• 2:28Speaker 01

There were some solid April Fool's Day things. Don't worry, we're gonna talk about the Switch 2. I just felt like, you know, in the transcript, if we have a whole bunch of Switch 2, maybe that helps.

• 2:36Andrew Manganelli?

  SEO through the roof.

• 2:37David Imel?

  Nintendo Switch 2.

• 2:38Speaker 01

And we're gonna title it that, right?

• 2:40Andrew Manganelli?

  We are.

• 2:40Speaker 01

  And the thumbnail?

• 2:41David Imel?

  Nintendo.

• 2:42Speaker 01

  Okay, perfect, perfect, good, good.

• 2:44Andrew Manganelli?

It's like the language in SpongeBob.

• 2:47Speaker 01

  Ni hoi doi!

• 2:50Speaker 01

No, we, okay, there were some good April Fool's Day. First of all, we did an April Fool's Day short. It was panels, it was all-white collection. It was pretty funny.

• 2:57David Imel?

  It was pretty good.

• 2:58Andrew Manganelli?

  It was well-done.

• 2:59Speaker 01

It was also just a PSA to like not forget that it's April Fool's Day, because lots of things get announced. Did you guys have favorites? Dbrand had touched grass.

• 3:08Andrew Manganelli?

  That was...

• 3:09Speaker 01

  Which is a real product.

• 3:10David Imel?

I do like it when a company releases an April Fool's Day joke and then actually starts selling it.

• 3:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 3:15Speaker 01

  So.

• 3:15Andrew Manganelli?

And like, not only that, but, and obviously Dbrand's a sponsor of our channel, so take everything we say with a grain of salt, but...

• 3:20David Imel?

  Disclosure.

• 3:21Andrew Manganelli?

They wanted to do it last year, but they made the skin and it was like flaking off too much, so they, it wasn't still a good product, even though it's a joke.

• 3:31David Imel?

  Just like real astroturf.

• 3:33Speaker 01

  Yeah, so they fixed it.

• 3:34Andrew Manganelli?

They fixed it. They spent a whole year to wait again to launch it.

• 3:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:38Andrew Manganelli?

And launched it. And there's a Verge article about actually like all the stuff they had to do, like they had to like laser cut the edges, which would then sort of like melt the sides, so like strands wouldn't come out. And like 30% of the strands of grass are within the vinyl, so it doesn't continue to fall out. It was really well-done and I kind of bought my laptop to be it.

• 3:58Speaker 01

Oh, I kinda want that, too.

• 4:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Grass laptop would be hilarious.

• 4:02David Imel?

It would be a head turn. Showing up to the coffee shop, that'd be fire.

• 4:05Andrew Manganelli?

  To the building outside.

• 4:07David Imel?

  Yes.

• 4:08Andrew Manganelli?

It would blend in with the grass a little too much.

• 4:10David Imel?

I'm still getting comments about that.

• 4:11Andrew Manganelli?

  There's still comments about that.

• 4:14David Imel?

  Anyway.

• 4:14Speaker 01

  That'd be a good comment.

• 4:15David Imel?

They're outdoor buildings, I just wanna make it clear.

• 4:17Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, the Razer, Razer always does a kind of silly one and they didn't disappoint again this year. They did the Razer Skibidi.

• 4:25David Imel?

  Yes.

• 4:25Andrew Manganelli?

The headset that lets you translate normal speak into online skibidi.

• 4:32David Imel?

It's both ways. It's both ways. So it translates Gen Z slang into plain English and it translates your plain English into Gen Z slang.

• 4:40Andrew Manganelli?

Is it like Gen Z slang or is it like brain rot?

• 4:43David Imel?

  It's brain rot.

• 4:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 4:44David Imel?

Yeah. Which, you know, it's the same thing.

• 4:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Same thing.

• 4:48Andrew Manganelli?

It was, it was pretty well done. They always do like above and beyond on the actual video.

• 4:53David Imel?

I thought it was gonna be cringe when I just saw the thumbnail that just said Razer Skibidi and I was like, oh no. But actually it was quite well done.

• 5:01Andrew Manganelli?

  It was.

• 5:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:01Speaker 01

  Well-produced ad.

• 5:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:02Speaker 01

  It's funny.

• 5:03Andrew Manganelli?

There's also an Elgato Stream Deck Desk where the entire desk was just Stream Deck buttons.

• 5:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:10Andrew Manganelli?

Which for some reason feels like something else would seem to be like, I'm in.

• 5:14David Imel?

I can control my entire computer with macro buttons.

• 5:18Speaker 04

Yeah. I mean, there, there's a company called X Keys that makes a product that's not that far away from that. And, uh, it's occurred to me a few times.

• 5:27Andrew Manganelli?

A couple of times. Just every time you lean your elbow down, there's like.

• 5:29David Imel?

By the way, Ellis is back.

• 5:31Speaker 04

  Ellis is back, baby.

• 5:32David Imel?

  Let's go.

• 5:33Speaker 04

But yeah, no, uh, more buttons is more good.

• 5:37Andrew Manganelli?

Hard agree. Too bad. It's an April Fools joke.

• 5:39Speaker 04

  I know.

• 5:39David Imel?

  But yeah.

• 5:40Speaker 01

Yeah. Incredible video for that, by the way.

• 5:42Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it was. Well, Blue Sky changed their character limit.

• 5:44David Imel?

  Well, for one day.

• 5:46Andrew Manganelli?

  For one.

• 5:46Speaker 01

I saw that notification and I was like, oh, like I forgot that it was April Fools Day. I was like, oh, okay, new character.

• 5:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:52Speaker 01

And then I had to remember.

• 5:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 5:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:54David Imel?

They went from 300 to 299.

• 5:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:57David Imel?

  For one day. So.

• 5:59Andrew Manganelli?

Impressed. I wonder how many people that actually upset. You know, there's someone who had to go put like, uh.

• 6:05David Imel?

I can't put the period in my sentence anymore.

• 6:07Speaker 04

Wait, actually, so I just watched the, the desk trailer for the first time. There is another company that makes something shockingly similar to this called Monome. Like M O N O M E. Uh, it's not quite as large, but, um, this exists. If you want the stream desk.

• 6:25Speaker 04

  Check out Monom.

• 6:27Andrew Manganelli?

  If you're like me.

• 6:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:29Speaker 01

That you can't get enough buttons, you can finally have all the buttons.

• 6:33Speaker 04

Can I wait? Can I talk about the next?

• 6:35David Imel?

  Yes.

• 6:35Speaker 04

The next one, because this is, this is really so Flight Radar tracked a Concorde flight. They put it on Air France or whatever the French carrier that used to do it. And my favorite part of that is Flight Radar tweeted it. They were like, check it out. And a bunch of people really confused, not knowing it was April Fool's Day, tried to figure out if it was real or not. All went like, at Grok, at Ask Perplexity, like, is this real? And they were all just like, this is real, baby.

• 7:06Speaker 04

  They're flying.

• 7:07Speaker 01

  They hallucinates ever.

• 7:08Andrew Manganelli?

No, they were just in on the joke. They're so in tune with modern day human activity that Grok is April Fools and people out here.

• 7:15Speaker 01

  That's good.

• 7:15David Imel?

  AI is famously good.

• 7:16Andrew Manganelli?

They're just doing it every day instead of only April Fools.

• 7:19David Imel?

  Nice.

• 7:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:20David Imel?

  Very nice.

• 7:21Andrew Manganelli?

Who wants to describe the, the nothing earbuds? Cause I missed that one.

• 7:24David Imel?

Yeah, so they quote unquote, launched a new set of earbuds that is very similar to the ear opens that they have. But it has a 164 foot cable. Uh, and the idea is that you get 3.5 millimeter audio quality, but you don't have to give up on the range that you get from Bluetooth.

• 7:44Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, but they also put them on their like weird open ones apparently. So you get the pure quality in the headphones that don't even seal into your ear.

• 7:53David Imel?

I imagine it was to make it more obvious that there was an April Fool's Day joke.

• 7:59Speaker 01

50 meter cable is still hilarious.

• 8:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:01Andrew Manganelli?

  It's awesome.

• 8:02David Imel?

  Honestly, I'd be down.

• 8:03Speaker 04

I'm, I'm sort of a hater of when companies make audio products that are like more expensive just because they have a balanced connection. But this is the one hypothetical product that absolutely needs to balance connection.

• 8:15David Imel?

The thing though, like think, I would love to be able to play Dota in my living room and be able to walk to my kitchen, grab a drink, use the bathroom and never have to take my headphones off.

• 8:25Andrew Manganelli?

  This is fair.

• 8:25Speaker 04

  Without using the SOTOS.

• 8:27David Imel?

I live in an apartment that has so much lead that I would never, I would never be able to have my Bluetooth connection go through both my walls.

• 8:37David Imel?

  Which is the biggest downside.

• 8:39Speaker 04

There's no way your walls are filled with solid lead.

• 8:41David Imel?

  Bro.

• 8:42Speaker 04

  You just have lead pipes.

• 8:43David Imel?

  That's what you think.

• 8:44Andrew Manganelli?

Do you know, like, but do you have to still be hearing when you walk to the kitchen?

• 8:48David Imel?

Well, if I'm on like voice chat with a friend or something.

• 8:50Andrew Manganelli?

  You can't just be like.

• 8:52David Imel?

  Be right back.

• 8:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Hey, one second.

• 8:53David Imel?

I could. Of course I could. What do you think I do now?

• 8:57Andrew Manganelli?

You run the risk of doing that as the wireless headset where then you accidentally like go to the bathroom to take a piss and then forget to mute it and then everyone in your voice chat.

• 9:05David Imel?

Look, this is real life, baby. You gotta experience everything if you want to have my friends. It's gonna happen. Anyway, nothing. Please make this. I will, I will buy it.

• 9:15Speaker 04

Wait, David, I owe you an apology. Lead paint, it seems like can.

• 9:19David Imel?

  Give you brain damage.

• 9:20Speaker 04

Well, if you eat it, but it also can slow down.

• 9:24David Imel?

I have to tell you guys something. So yesterday I was cleaning my apartment and I was putting a tripod up on this like shelf that I have in my apartment. But the week after I moved in, um, the apartment above me flooded and so it like created like this crack in the ceiling. So I was putting the tripod up and it scraped against the ceiling and a ton of lead paint and dust like fell on me. And now I'm a little concerned.

• 9:52Andrew Manganelli?

Don't worry. If you buy a Nintendo Switch 2, it'll fix everything.

• 9:56David Imel?

You know what? You're right. Anyway, we can move on.

• 9:59Andrew Manganelli?

I just have two more quick ones.

• 10:00David Imel?

  Okay.

• 10:00Andrew Manganelli?

Monkey type, one of my favorite websites just went to comic type. So it was all Comic Sans and I actually thought. That one did trick me because we've been using Monkey type for a studio video we're doing and I was like, I don't think I changed this to Comic Sans.

• 10:13David Imel?

Wait, I just went back and it's still Comic Sans.

• 10:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Is it really?

• 10:16David Imel?

  April Fools. Gotcha. It's not.

• 10:19Andrew Manganelli?

That's the cardinal sin. You can't do April Fools, not on April Fools.

• 10:22David Imel?

  My bad.

• 10:23Speaker 04

Wait, wait, no, I was wrong again. Lead has no significant effect on non-ionizing radiation. I just did not want to leave that out here.

• 10:30David Imel?

  I know.

• 10:30Speaker 04

  It's effective.

• 10:31David Imel?

Have a significant effect. On my brain development.

• 10:33Speaker 04

Yes, and ionizing radiation, but not the stuff that's in phones and routers. Sorry.

• 10:37Andrew Manganelli?

It's okay. You spent too long correcting that. There's already 30 comments telling you you're wrong, so it doesn't matter.

• 10:42David Imel?

I'm over 25. My frontal lobe is developed.

• 10:44Andrew Manganelli?

And the last one is Novel Keys Keyboard website made the any key set. And this is a real, like you mentioned before, you like when people actually make it. This is a real GMK set you can buy. I don't know if you guys remember the Simpsons sketch, but there's an episode where he's working from home. And he's on his computer and he's trying to figure out how to use it. It says, press any key to start. He's like, huh, where's the any key? And then he's like, the S key, the control key.

• 11:09David Imel?

  Is that what it's for?

• 11:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 11:11David Imel?

So you can buy a whole entire keyboard set of every single key says any key on it. Which is not too different from just the blank keycap sets for the hardcore users.

• 11:21Speaker 01

I loved the blank keyboard sets. I had a DOS keyboard back in the day with all black keys. Maybe that's why I'm decent at typing, because I had to like memorize where things were.

• 11:29David Imel?

I played Typing of the Dead for fun.

• 11:31Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 11:31David Imel?

That's right. It's on Steam. It's on Steam.

• 11:34Speaker 04

  No, oh my god.

• 11:34David Imel?

  I know.

• 11:35Andrew Manganelli?

  All right.

• 11:36Speaker 04

I can't believe you did not put on this list the Duolingo Cruise.

• 11:40Andrew Manganelli?

  The Duolingo.

• 11:40David Imel?

  The five-year Duolingo.

• 11:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 11:42Speaker 04

Duolingo Cruise where you visit every country and learn how to speak their language.

• 11:46Andrew Manganelli?

And if you don't, if you break your streak, the Duolingo owl like shoots you down a chute out the cruise ship. Duolingo always nails it on April Fools for sure.

• 11:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:56Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, let's talk about something that maybe should have been an April Fools joke, but wasn't. YouTube Shorts views change. Do you want to describe this, Marquez?

• 12:06Speaker 01

Yeah, okay. So YouTube Shorts are changing the way they count views. All right, next. Now, it's interesting because right now, when you look at YouTube Shorts, you just see the views counter. And views aren't counted as soon as you open it. Views are counted when you watch a certain amount of time, just like a regular YouTube video. But that amount of time is a secret because they don't want people to be able to bot it and game it. So there is some algorithm, depending on the length of the short and the engagement, blah, blah, blah, at which point you've counted as a view. But YouTube's announced that they're going to add now a distinction. So there's going to be two view counts essentially for shorts. One is just views that start counting the second you open a short.

• 12:47David Imel?

  So an impression?

• 12:48Speaker 01

So just one view. You could watch it all the way through. You could watch the first 0.3 seconds of it, but every single, uh, starting to play the short counts as a view. And then you loop it and it's another view and it's another view. But engaged views will still be the same formulated, calculated view as before. So short will have engaged views and it'll have views, which will be way, way, way higher probably. Because if you have a close rate of, let's say 60% for a short, you'll have 60% more views because of how often people closed it.

• 13:23David Imel?

Is this just to distinguish if people are actually watching shorts? Because the algorithm just feeds you shorts nonstop and you don't really select what shorts you want to watch?

• 13:33Speaker 01

Yeah, I'll be honest, I don't know what anybody gets out of this. Like I, when I think of who gains something from this, like YouTube maybe just gets to show way higher view numbers and they feel good about that, whatever. I feel like Facebook made that same mistake already. Why are we doing that?

• 13:47Andrew Manganelli?

  And Twitter also.

• 13:48Speaker 01

  And Twitter shows impressions.

• 13:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Clowned on Twitter, yeah.

• 13:51Speaker 01

But, um, as a creator, like when I see a higher number of engaged views, that's still telling me the information I need to know. But a higher number of views, all that means is it was served more times.

• 14:02David Imel?

That's what I'm saying for short form.

• 14:04Speaker 01

I didn't like do anything to make it get served more times.

• 14:05Andrew Manganelli?

  It's just an impression.

• 14:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 14:07Speaker 01

Yeah, like there's nothing, I don't think that my titles or tags or anything are making it be served more. I think it, once it's successful and has more engaged views, then it gets served more to more audiences. But I don't understand what I learned from higher views. Like I don't know what I get.

• 14:23David Imel?

Oh, the algorithm decided that I was lucky today.

• 14:26Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, they even said that like, this isn't really going to impact personal creator metrics. Because old, what used to be views is now just what like engaged views is what they're calling it inside of your analytics. So like, it's not going to impact your earnings or I'm assuming your recommendations or like.

• 14:43David Imel?

  Earnings through YouTube Shorts.

• 14:44Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, well, but even though just to like get into the partner program through like, it used to be X amount of views. It's now X amount of engaged views, which is the old views. So the new views are definitely just this like public facing YouTube being like. Hey TikTok, that person got a billion views. We also want to say that we had somebody get a billion views.

• 15:04Speaker 01

I guess the question is, how does TikTok count views?

• 15:08Andrew Manganelli?

I'm assuming, I don't know. I would assume the same way because some of those numbers. But like, we all collectively as creators understands that like, views on platforms mean different things. Like, a thousand views on YouTube probably means like-

• 15:23Speaker 01

We understand that, but do regular people understand that? Because regular people see views on Twitter and just think that that's the same as views on YouTube. And I think if you're in the industry, then you're paying for ad rates, then you have to know about the distinctions. But I think, I think regular people probably don't know.

• 15:38Andrew Manganelli?

I would argue the ad rate pay people to [bleep] understand it either.

• 15:41Speaker 01

Then they won't be in business for very long. But yeah, I think, I think we have to know the difference between a view and like a full view all the way through. Like, we look at like how long people watch individual videos. So we have view count, but we also have engagement numbers and metrics to sort of figure out how successful a video is. This, I don't know what I get from this.

• 16:02Andrew Manganelli?

It's YouTube patting themselves on the back and being able to be like, probably so they can sell more ads inside of their Shorts Player. Because they can be like, look how many views we're getting in this.

• 16:12Speaker 01

  True.

• 16:12Andrew Manganelli?

And not use impressions anymore, even though it's just the same thing. You just changed the name.

• 16:17Speaker 01

  I guess it's just impressions.

• 16:18Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, that's just what Twitter did. It's what Twitter did, yeah.

• 16:21Speaker 01

  They just changed it.

• 16:21Andrew Manganelli?

And we harped on Twitter pretty hard for it.

• 16:24Speaker 05

Wait, I have a question. You were saying that basically, the views to get into the partner program remain the same.

• 16:31Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 16:32Speaker 05

So this doesn't make it harder or easier to get into the partner program?

• 16:36Speaker 01

Changes nothing. It changes, what we were calling views before are now being called engaged views. And that is still what's being counted for monetary stuff, for partner program stuff.

• 16:48David Imel?

  That stays the same.

• 16:49Speaker 04

So basically, the only thing that this tells you is how often you were fed into the algorithm.

• 16:55David Imel?

  Yes.

• 16:55Andrew Manganelli?

How often it popped up on someone's screen, essentially. Which is like, do you remember years ago when like Facebook first like scrolling through your feed? If a video just popped in, they counted it as a view because Facebook wanted videos to seem more important on Facebook?

• 17:08David Imel?

Well, that's it's also saying YouTube says, this is an article from TechCrunch, says YouTube says that it's making the change because it heard that creators want to understand how often their shorts are actually seen. The idea is that creators can now better showcase the full extent of their reach.

• 17:22Andrew Manganelli?

It's they could do that already. It was in their analytics.

• 17:25Speaker 04

But can I can I play devil's advocate for one sec here?

• 17:28David Imel?

  No.

• 17:28Speaker 04

I'm putting myself in the shoes of a professional short form video creator, like only short form, right? And you have to self advocate, sell ads for yourself. And it seems like on all the major platforms, TikTok, Instagram, X. I don't know if Blue Sky does short form video scrawly feeds, but

• 17:51David Imel?

  They do now.

• 17:51Speaker 04

They do now, Blue Sky. You have effectively one way of measuring your views for that. And then YouTube is on this island. And I could imagine it would disincentivize those like professional creators from using YouTube as much because now all of a sudden they need to provide two one sheets, two analytics papers

• 18:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:10Speaker 04

to their ad folk. So maybe it's just about

• 18:13David Imel?

To align with the rest of the industry.

• 18:14Speaker 01

It's just evening the playing field among other misrepresented.

• 18:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, I was gonna say.

• 18:19Speaker 04

Yeah, no, I I also fundamentally disagree with this, but I could see it actually

• 18:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:24Speaker 04

we in a weird way being for creators.

• 18:27Andrew Manganelli?

I agree with you in that the best way this helps a creator is like, I get to bring this to third party brand and try and do a brand deal with that. But this is only going to last for X amount of time before they realize like, oh, wait, these views, I'm not getting the ROI like I was, and these views are different, and now I need to change if they're smart enough.

• 18:44Speaker 04

Totally. But now a creator could package all of the view numbers from all their platforms into one number and have that be a more genuine number.

• 18:52David Imel?

Because it's all counted the same way.

• 18:53Andrew Manganelli?

But it still would have to hit the same on every and there's still different levels of We do times where like, even if you, if you think TikTok and Reels are similar, like we do videos that get fifty thousand on a reel and five hundred thousand on a TikTok or vice versa all the time also. I still think you need to generally package your things differently.

• 19:14David Imel?

But also devil's devil's advocate. It just allows YouTube to set, to go to advertisers and just be like, but look, we're like, look how many views we get on our platform. Like you should advertise with us and.

• 19:27Speaker 01

Yeah, impressions on long form videos have never been public. So only the creator has been able to go into the analytics, find the impressions number and then go to the company and go, this is how many impressions my videos are getting. As a advertiser, I don't care how many impressions you're getting. It's not helpful to me. I want to know how many people actually click on it because an impression is my thumbnail got showed in some search results or some browse features somewhere and I scrolled right past it. That's an impression. Yeah, I don't care about advertising in that video if that impression, if they didn't click. So I only care about engaged views, people who go in and click and watch the video.

• 20:03David Imel?

Do you think advertisers or brands that want to work with creators like know the distinction?

• 20:08Speaker 01

I guess I thought they did and I think to be a good one, you have to, but maybe not all of them care.

• 20:15David Imel?

Here's a little inside baseball. Okay. I, I know very, a lot of people who work for agencies that work for brands. And if the brand just tells the agency, get me this much reach. They don't care about what's technically correct. They don't care about, you know, because the agency just needs to hit the quota. And they don't necessarily worry about, will this actually have influence? Will this actually have real reach? I can just put a number on a sheet and then I get paid. The more you abstract away, the person who actually wants the result, the less it matters whether or not that result is real.

• 20:50Speaker 01

So now YouTube's back in the playing field for all of those who just want the numbers.

• 20:53David Imel?

I mean, considering like most of the advertising world is run by agencies and people who are not being directly paid to get more views.

• 21:02Andrew Manganelli?

I just think that number will change with this change because they're going to realize eventually like we're aiming for this number because. In our minds, it equals X return on investment. And now that number is not getting us the same amount of return on investment anymore. So we need to bump that number higher.

• 21:16David Imel?

But the rest of the industry.

• 21:17Speaker 01

It's been true about the rest. So like, will they realize it? Or will they just keep getting the views and then moving on with their lives?

• 21:23David Imel?

  I think that's that's their job.

• 21:24Speaker 01

  Probably the more likely.

• 21:25Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, then people are going to lose a lot of money. But I also agree that I think most agencies and companies are using social media really poorly. And have no.

• 21:34David Imel?

Because if you just have a job and you're just working for someone and they just give you a quota, you're just going to hit the quota. You don't have like a personal incentive to actually have influence.

• 21:43Andrew Manganelli?

I, yeah, I still think this is stupid and YouTube made a mistake on this. And it's just.

• 21:49David Imel?

But also think about from YouTube's perspective, where if literally everyone else is lying to everybody and then YouTube looks like they suck as a platform, like, what are you supposed to do?

• 21:58Speaker 01

Yeah, every marketer is getting paid to hit one million impressions. And so if you're a marketer and you're getting paid to hit a million impressions and you're going to go pay and get a bunch of ads, where am I going to go? I'm going to go to TikTok and reels and the ones that have the highest numbers.

• 22:10David Imel?

  Right.

• 22:10Speaker 01

So this puts YouTube back on the map for them to spend money.

• 22:13David Imel?

  Even though they're lying.

• 22:14Speaker 01

It's a race to the bottom.

• 22:14David Imel?

They're all lying the same way now. At least they're back in the plank.

• 22:17Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Do you think there's a reason? And this can be the last note on this because we've gone too off path. But like, is there a reason we get this? Wait, wait, wait, Nintendo Switch 2. Thanks for keeping everyone engaged for one more second. I just like, have you noticed we don't ever remember any of these marketers or anything? Because they probably all go out of business in like two years because they're all basically just doing really poorly for the companies by promising this stupid.

• 22:41David Imel?

Yeah, none of us love agencies.

• 22:43Andrew Manganelli?

Dude, we get, we'll get an age, like 10 different agencies in two years. Reach out for the same company because like they're all terrible and all playing the game wrong. So is that really a benefit now? I don't know. It's stupid.

• 22:56David Imel?

  We live in a society.

• 22:57Andrew Manganelli?

YouTube, you guys are doing great already. You don't need to fake like this to. But shareholder value.

• 23:03David Imel?

  Shareholder value.

• 23:04Andrew Manganelli?

For a brief. Do you want the boat to sink? Get Ben.

• 23:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:07Andrew Manganelli?

Sorry. I don't know why this made me so mad. Do you just remember our numbers on Twitter videos? It was like, it said you had like 5 million views and 4.9 million of them X'd out in the first one second. It was, dude, it makes no sense.

• 23:23Speaker 01

But I'm the one who saw that number.

• 23:24Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, no, most agencies, though, do request analytic screenshots afterwards. So I think they'll catch on to it sooner than later.

• 23:32Speaker 01

  We shall see.

• 23:33David Imel?

Moving on Nintendo Switch 2, uh, actually, no, not Nintendo Switch 2. Just a couple other small things that weren't actually that small, but we'll just talk about them briefly.

• 23:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Thirty-three billion dollar small thing.

• 23:48David Imel?

In a, what is most likely a reshuffling of money and investor capital in order to get an easier way to raise money, XAI has acquired X, which is just a fancy way of saying nothing.

• 24:05Speaker 01

I feel like that, that kid in the, in the David Blaine sketch where like he does the card trick to him and, or he does the coin trick and makes him disappear off the top of his hand and he stares at it for a few seconds and just goes, "Cool."

• 24:19David Imel?

That's my reaction to this headline. Yeah, I think all of this just has to do with the ability for X to keep running and raising capital. Because now if X is owned by XAI, XAI can easily raise capital. X cannot easily raise capital because of all the problems they've gone through and how they're overleveraged on Tesla shares. So it kinda seems just like a way to keep X running because it's super easy to raise XAI capital.

• 24:44Speaker 04

Forbes was reporting, and this is like, I think I agree with you, but the, the other small part of the story is that this makes it easier for Grok to get trained on Twitter user data.

• 24:55David Imel?

  Which they were already doing.

• 24:56Speaker 04

But now it's more in line with US privacy laws, now that they technically own all that user data.

• 25:02David Imel?

  I will not comment.

• 25:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Cool.

• 25:04Speaker 05

  Awesome.

• 25:06David Imel?

  Cool. Okay, we'll move on.

• 25:07Speaker 05

Something else AI is screwing up.

• 25:08David Imel?

Uh, yeah. Uh, so you guys might have seen over the weekend, there was a big, uh, thing that happened where everybody started making themselves Ghibli-fied. Because OpenAI released their image generation model, uh, that is built into ChatGPT that is much more realistic and way better. It's the, uh, 4O model. So it's the, the deep thinking model. And it just kinda caught fire that people started making themselves into a Studio, Studio Ghibli kind of character.

• 25:40Speaker 05

Yeah, you would like upload a photo and say, can you make this in like a Studio Ghibli animation style?

• 25:46David Imel?

Um, so Sam Altman tweeted, "The ChatGPT launched 26 months ago was one of the craziest viral moments I'd ever seen and we added 1 million users in 5 days. We added 1 million users in the last hour." That was over the weekend because of the amount of people who wanted to do this, because the 4O model at first was just released to, uh, OpenAI plus subscribers and then they released it to everyone later. So everyone just wanted to make Studio Ghibli versions of themselves. This is highly ironic, um, because Studio Ghibli's creator notably hates AI-based animation and famously said that it was an insult to life itself.

• 26:23Speaker 05

If you haven't seen that video, I showed it to Marquez, like explaining this to him the other day. It's so good.

• 26:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:29Speaker 05

  It's so funny.

• 26:30David Imel?

It's from a few years ago, but basically someone had shown him, "Look, this was generated with AI." And he was like, "This is the most disturbing thing I've ever seen."

• 26:39Speaker 05

Yeah, it was from a documentary. I think the, it was, it came out in 2016, something like that. But I will say, in their defense, although I do agree with Miyazaki, but the clip that they showed him that AI made was really grotesque. It was for a horror movie and he was like, "Why would anyone want to do this?" Like, I think he literally says, like, "If you want to make creepy [BLEEP], go, go do it somewhere else. Like, don't, I'm never putting this in my films." Something like that.

• 27:05David Imel?

It's weird. I have seen both sides of this on my timeline. I know it's hard to believe there's two sides, but side number one is...

• 27:12Speaker 01

Using AI to create art, stealing from the studio art, like not asking permission, all the negatives of it. And the other side was, eh, honestly, it's pretty good. Actually, the way I saw it, the way I saw it was.

• 27:26David Imel?

  Point.

• 27:27Speaker 01

I posted the, the last video, we, we had this really cool thumbnail that Tim made, which was the, the chat GPT logo, like falling out of the iPhone and Apple Intelligence and talking about that stuff. And I posted like the before and after of like the idea behind it and then the final result. And a lot of people were like, oh, I thought you made this with AI. And then they started trying to make it with AI themselves. And they were like, yeah, I could have made that with AI. Here's a version with AI. Here's a bunch of versions I just made with AI. And they weren't very good, but that is a real person that exists that's like, whatever, like I could just make it with AI. Not everybody has access to a team, Marquez. Like you gotta just be able to make art for free and cheap. And at a certain point, it's gonna be faster and better. So you might as well just get on board with AI anyway.

• 28:09Speaker 01

I saw that crowd on Twitter too. So I'm not shocked if this blew up and people were all entertaining themselves by just making Studio Ghibli versions of whatever they could think of. Memes, famous videos, famous movies, whatever.

• 28:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 28:22Speaker 01

Um, but yeah, that was an interesting narrative.

• 28:25David Imel?

What I did enjoy was there was a lot of people who were like making art of themselves and then people were, were like quote tweeting them and being like, this you? And it was like their last tweet from two days ago being like, I can't believe this person stole my video clip and used it for this. Yeah, that was, that was quite funny.

• 28:42Speaker 04

If, uh, if you think Studio Ghibli movies are so moving because Miyazaki draws really good.

• 28:51Speaker 04

You're missing the point. Like, like, that's great that you can use a robot to poop out something that looks like it was drawn by him. But if you think that that is the same as like making something as like touching as those films are like. Go for it, but you're totally gonna replace artists. You're gonna do such a good job out there.

• 29:11Speaker 05

I did see someone make a point, though, saying, you know, yes, you can make these AI cartoons in like seconds now, but it took that studio decades of work to get to that point. So this isn't going to be the case like forever. Like you still need artists doing their thing.

• 29:27Andrew Manganelli?

I think that's a super fair point in a lot of things is how long it takes to get somewhere. Cause I think a lot of people even in, you know, what we do are like, how come Marquez can make a 15 minute video and it can make all this money? It's like, cause he's dedicated 17 years of his life to getting to this point with that audience. Like there's always more to it than just the initial output in that time, but.

• 29:49David Imel?

Yeah. And also originality is missing. Like when you train something on something existing, you can make derivative work, but you can't, you, I guess by definition, can't make original work. It's always trained on something.

• 30:02Andrew Manganelli?

What would be cooler as a gift? A picture of you in Studio Ghibli form that was drawn by the creator or by AI. Like one of those is gonna touch you a little, a little more.

• 30:12David Imel?

  Yeah, I think that.

• 30:13Andrew Manganelli?

  One's impossible to get, but.

• 30:14David Imel?

Well, that's like a very deep conversation in sort of the artificial intelligence community. It's like, aren't people also just combinatorics of things that they've experienced and learned?

• 30:24Andrew Manganelli?

  True.

• 30:25David Imel?

Uh, that's the whole, that's the whole argument.

• 30:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Devil's advocate.

• 30:28David Imel?

  That's the devil's advocate.

• 30:29Andrew Manganelli?

But we've got to talk about Nintendo Switch 2, so we don't have time to get into that.

• 30:32David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 30:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Nintendo Switch 2 trivia.

• 30:34David Imel?

  Nintendo Switch 2 ad break.

• 30:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Trivia break?

• 30:36David Imel?

  Nintendo Switch 2 trivia.

• 30:38Andrew Manganelli?

They sponsored this episode. That would have been awesome.

• 30:40David Imel?

  Nintendo?

• 30:41Andrew Manganelli?

I guess we couldn't talk about it then.

• 30:43David Imel?

  Yeah, that'd be.

• 30:44Andrew Manganelli?

  That would be unethical.

• 30:45David Imel?

  Bad.

• 30:45Speaker 04

Yeah, we would never do that. But you know what we would do?

• 30:49David Imel?

  Nintendo Switch 2?

• 30:50Speaker 04

Uh, bring Ellis back from Mexico with an absolute banger of a trivia question. Hit the air horn. Let's go. All right. Uh, so we had a bunch of great April Fools jokes uh, from companies this year. None that were super annoying, which was really nice, but I have in front of me four April Fools jokes from tech companies in years prior. And you need to tell me which one I Ellis made up. The first one, Tesla goes bankrupt. April Fools Day 2018. Elon literally tweeted an announcement of Tesla's bankruptcy.

• 31:25David Imel?

  Did that.

• 31:26Speaker 04

B, Google Mic Drop from 2016. Google added a feature to Gmail. So there's the send button, and then there's the send with mic drop button right next to it. When you hit the send with mic drop button, the whole point of it was, they said it will be the way to have the last message in any email chain. And when you hit the send with mic drop button-

• 31:45David Imel?

  They can't reply.

• 31:46Speaker 04

You know, it adds a gif of a minion dropping a mic to your email. And unfortunately, they removed the feature before the end of the day because so many people were hitting it accidentally. Because surprise, the average Gmail user does not read the Google blog.

• 32:01David Imel?

That made, um, that made the world better. I would pay extra for that. Even though that is super cringe and super Google thing to do, uh, I would love to see the amount of corporate emails that accidentally do that.

• 32:14Speaker 04

So enterprise and education users did not get the feature for that exact reason.

• 32:19David Imel?

  Allegedly, if it's real.

• 32:20Speaker 04

Allegedly, if it's real. I mean, I pretend like it's real until for all these, until the end.

• 32:24David Imel?

  Right.

• 32:24Speaker 04

You've done this before. Uh, C, Hulu launches a new service called Who for eight-second clips of their shows. Um, think of it-

• 32:32David Imel?

People have actually launched that before.

• 32:34Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 32:35David Imel?

  It's called, it's called Woobie. It's called Woo-Boo.

• 32:40Speaker 04

  Wait, that's a real one.

• 32:41Andrew Manganelli?

We got tagged in one the other day that was like-

• 32:43Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 32:43Andrew Manganelli?

Every time you guys make one up, another one comes out.

• 32:45David Imel?

  It was Tubi.

• 32:46Andrew Manganelli?

  It was Mubi.

• 32:46David Imel?

Mubi? Yeah, but Mubi's been out for a while.

• 32:49Speaker 04

Okay, and the last one, D, the Nikon D5100 selfie mode from 2011. So the iPhone 4 had just come out, first iPhone with a selfie camera. People were really, really into it. So for April Fool's Day, they announced that their D5100, the mirror was getting an extra 45 degrees of tilt, allowing light from the viewfinder to hit the sensor, effectively giving it a selfie camera.

• 33:15David Imel?

  With like two photons total.

• 33:19Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty funny.

• 33:20David Imel?

Interesting. That's pretty funny. Damn, okay. So I gotta think of which one is made up. Yeah. Cause the rest are real. Yeah. Well, we'll think about it. Answers will be at the end like usual. We'll be right back. Nintendo Switch 2.

• 35:29Speaker 01

Alright, welcome back to the Nintendo Switch 2 Podcast. We've got some Nintendo Switch 2 to talk about, believe it or not.

• 35:35David Imel?

  Surprisingly.

• 35:36Speaker 01

This week, Nintendo fully unveiled detailed Switch 2 specs, games, compatibility, features, accessories, a whole bunch of stuff, price tag, release date that we hadn't known. So it's all out there now and people can decide now really if they're going to spend their money on the Switch 2.

• 35:54David Imel?

It was never an option for me.

• 35:56Speaker 01

I mean, you were always gonna spend the money.

• 35:57David Imel?

  That's unfortunate.

• 35:57Speaker 01

But now you know how much money you're in for.

• 35:59David Imel?

  It is the-

• 35:59Speaker 01

  They could've said any number.

• 36:00David Imel?

Because now it's a little more than I want to spend, but if it was a lot more than I wanted to spend, I'd been like, "Well, that's how it is."

• 36:08Speaker 01

Well, for those wondering, $449. If you were somehow under a rock...

• 36:14David Imel?

If you're a gamer, you cannot afford those, I'm sorry.

• 36:17Speaker 01

If you were under a rock the past couple of days, because didn't we see like a million concurrent streams on the Nintendo?

• 36:23Andrew Manganelli?

It was just the US one.

• 36:25David Imel?

1.2 million concurrent on YouTube during the livestream today.

• 36:29Andrew Manganelli?

Only the Nintendo US. There was Nintendo UK, which also had like 200,000 viewers, like-

• 36:35David Imel?

They just said Nintendo Switch 2 in it.

• 36:39Speaker 01

  That was the whole thing.

• 36:40Andrew Manganelli?

I think they used pounds, probably.

• 36:43Speaker 01

The day we're recording this, so look, I'm trying to immerse myself back in the Switch 1 and really get ready to make this video, but we're recording this on Wednesday and I'm planning on making a Switch 2 hands-on video tomorrow on Thursday.

• 36:53David Imel?

  I'm so jealous.

• 36:54Speaker 01

And I'm doing this because lots of people are asking about the Switch 2. It's clearly very popular, but I've been trying to figure out how many people are going to watch the Switch 2 video and I think now it's gonna be a lot.

• 37:04David Imel?

  It's gonna be 15 million.

• 37:06Speaker 01

No, no, no, it's not gonna be that crazy. I mean, the last crazy video that was kind of like the same vibes was the PS5, because it's every seven years or something crazy.

• 37:15David Imel?

  Like eight years.

• 37:16Speaker 01

And so all the hype gets built up and then we unboxed the PS5 and it had like 10 million views in two days or something.

• 37:21David Imel?

  Minimum 15 million.

• 37:22Speaker 01

It had a million. This is the only video I've ever made that had a million views in the first hour.

• 37:26David Imel?

  This will get that.

• 37:27Speaker 01

PlayStation 5 unboxing. This will get that. So I don't think it's gonna be that much.

• 37:30Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know if it'll be quite as much.

• 37:31Speaker 01

But it should still be interesting to see, you know, how many people are talking about the PS5 this week.

• 37:36Andrew Manganelli?

PS5 also came out 2020, so at the end of COVID, there was so much going on, so much happening. That gained 100,000 subscribers just from that video.

• 37:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:46Andrew Manganelli?

It was crazy. And we made it at 8 o'clock at night.

• 37:49Speaker 01

Yeah, it was just unboxing. I couldn't even turn it on and do anything. I just unboxed it.

• 37:52Andrew Manganelli?

  This will do that.

• 37:53Speaker 01

So this is, this is the hands-on, but what we learned this week was all of the details of all the new things with Switch 2 versus Switch 1. So the price tag is one of them. It's $449. Uh, from there, I mean, some basic spec improvements. We don't have like CPU GPU details, but we have a larger screen, obviously, with a thinner bezel. It's still the same thickness of a console, so it'll just kind of feel like flat and bigger. I love that. It's a 1080p 120 Hz display. It's an LCD.

• 38:20Andrew Manganelli?

  7.9 inches.

• 38:22Speaker 01

  7.9 inch HDR support.

• 38:23David Imel?

  120 Hz.

• 38:24Speaker 01

  I...

• 38:25David Imel?

  I love that.

• 38:26Speaker 01

Look, everyone says you don't notice 120 Hz versus 60.

• 38:28David Imel?

That is not even... Does anyone say that?

• 38:30Speaker 01

Yeah, because every, every time we talk about the iPhone, it's, I'm like, it's 60 Hz. I can't believe it's still 60 Hz. And then all of the internet goes, "Nobody can tell anyway." And now the Switch 2 comes out and everyone's like, "Yeah, 120 Hz. I've been waiting for this."

• 38:41David Imel?

The biggest problem with the iPhone is that...

• 38:42Speaker 01

  So which is it?

• 38:43David Imel?

It's like the home screen that's 120 Hz on the iPhone and like most apps are still 60. That's the problem.

• 38:48Speaker 01

No, no, no. Most apps are 120. It's like the mapping apps are still 60 and like a couple, but most of the apps are 120 too. And I noticed that with scrolling through everything and like moving around the UI.

• 38:58David Imel?

Maybe it's a screen size thing?

• 39:00Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, on this big of a screen, you gotta go 120. I'm just like, for all the people who have been yelling about how nobody notices the difference between 60 and 20, I better not see you buying a Switch 2 for this feature, okay? But it has 120 now, so there you go.

• 39:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 39:13Speaker 01

Uh, it'll do 4K out to the dock to a TV, so that's awesome too.

• 39:17Andrew Manganelli?

  4K 60.

• 39:18Speaker 01

  4K 60.

• 39:19Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, that is reasonable though, because most TVs do not go over 60.

• 39:22Speaker 01

Most of your TVs are 40.

• 39:23Andrew Manganelli?

I know there are some, but most of them don't.

• 39:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:26David Imel?

  That you should turn off.

• 39:28Speaker 01

But that's good to see. But the other big new thing I think with the Switch 2, aside from that stand, which I think is nice, is the new Joy-Cons, the new controllers are massively updated. First of all, I think my favorite feature is the magnets, how they connect to the side.

• 39:40David Imel?

  How they work.

• 39:40Speaker 01

How they, how the magnets work.

• 39:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 39:43Speaker 01

Uh, the SL DL buttons, sorry, SL SR.

• 39:49Andrew Manganelli?

  SL SR?

• 39:51Speaker 01

The buttons. What are they called? Yeah. S L S R. Those buttons at the top are much bigger. They're also made of steel metal that interacts directly with the magnets inside of the Switch 2, which is how they stay connected. That's how they work, yeah. So they double, they double function as buttons and connecting with magnets. Unfortunately, we thought that there was gonna be a polarity switcher. It is much simpler than that. No. It's a piece of plastic that pushes it off of it. Which is fine. Totally fine. It is fine. Um, they're also, they have like bigger, bigger buttons. They added a button, which is the C button. C button. Which is how we can talk about that software feature in a second.

• 40:28Andrew Manganelli?

I think the Joy-Cons in general being bigger, just like, it was always so cool you could, you know, break a controller to have two controllers, but they were always ergonomically small.

• 40:38Speaker 01

  Horrible.

• 40:38Andrew Manganelli?

And like you needed to put that extra little like wrist wrap, bigger button connector onto it, where this looks way better to play with, uh, horizontally detached.

• 40:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:47Andrew Manganelli?

  By itself.

• 40:48Speaker 01

Yeah. It also has, uh, mouse support. So they kept doing this thing where they turned it sideways and put it on a table. And I, I suppose there's like an optical sensor in it, so you can do things like moving it around, rotating. And there are games that support mouse control with the Joy-Cons. I haven't thought that that was a good idea yet, but I wanna try it. Uh, they were showing a golf game where you could like move the putter around and change the angle. This kinda feels like the most gimmicky part of the Switch. Yeah. To me. Yeah, I think my overall take with the Switch is they didn't miss on any of the things that we were hoping for.

• 41:19Andrew Manganelli?

  I agree.

• 41:19Speaker 01

But then some of the extra stuff on top is like, oh, okay, interesting.

• 41:22Andrew Manganelli?

I will take gimmicks on top of everything we wanted. Like, I'm mad at gimmicks when they didn't give us something that we asked for.

• 41:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:30Andrew Manganelli?

But if they gave us the 4K bigger screen.

• 41:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:34Andrew Manganelli?

120, all of that stuff, and then give me a gimmick? Cool. Like the PS5 controller, uh, triggers that have the like different feedback. It's not in that many games.

• 41:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:43Andrew Manganelli?

  It's kind of gimmicky.

• 41:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:44Andrew Manganelli?

But you had everything else on the, so I was pumped.

• 41:46Speaker 01

I wish more games supported that.

• 41:48Andrew Manganelli?

I'm less pumped about the mouse thing than the PS5.

• 41:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Controller trigger, but.

• 41:52Speaker 01

Yeah. Huge quality of life update. Extra USB C port on the top. Uh, as someone who is just using their Switch for the first time in a while, a couple of days ago, and it's dead, it is extremely hard to use at all while it is charging, because that's to charge from the bottom. Yeah. So if you're not playing docked, it's hard. So now you can plug it in from the top. That can also be used to plug in different accessories, like the camera, which we will talk about later.

• 42:16Andrew Manganelli?

One more thing, in terms of if you're playing it standing up like on your thing, the new kickstand has multiple different angles that it can adjust to as well, which is really awesome.

• 42:27David Imel?

The Switch OLED had a new kickstand too that was way better and it was made of metal.

• 42:31Andrew Manganelli?

And it was very cool. As good with the same amount of things as the

• 42:33David Imel?

It went down very, very far, kinda like a Surface Pro.

• 42:38Speaker 01

So yeah, these new accessories are interesting. So like we said, it has two USB-C ports, so it can be docked. And then on that top USB-C port, you can plug in the Switch 2 camera. And basically, the way I feel like I was watching this video and Nintendo is just acknowledging that the Switch is a very social console. And there are people who have Switches who are not in the same place and they can still take advantage of all playing the same game. And making it feel as social as possible. We're all used to Zoom and being on these little like video squares and we all see each other. So you point this camera at yourself and a lot of Switch 2 games will actually have a feature built in where it will like include your picture over your, you know, your video game stream as you're playing the game. So if you're playing a game, you can see other people playing

• 43:22Speaker 01

the same game or different games at the same time.

• 43:24David Imel?

  Right.

• 43:25Speaker 01

You have a microphone on the top, you can chat with your friends, you can see your friends. Apparently it's got AI noise cancellation, so if other noises are happening in the room and the Switch is across the room, it can still pick up your voice.

• 43:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:36Speaker 01

So it's a more social experience. You don't just see the character on the screen, you see your friends with the camera.

• 43:42David Imel?

Like a big part of the camera is this new feature called game chat, which is included if you have Switch online, but you have to pay for it unfortunately after

• 43:52Speaker 01

  Free for a year.

• 43:52Andrew Manganelli?

You get the free first year.

• 43:53David Imel?

Yeah, after like the beginning of next year. But basically what this lets you do, like you were kinda talking about, is it will show your main screen on your screen, but then it also shows the screens of your friends that you're playing with. And the cool thing, like you mentioned, is that you can be playing the same game and it'll show their games at the bottom. You can also be playing different games. And if you have the camera, it does this sort of like AI cutout thing where it cuts out your head and like stitches it to the corner. And so it can show your reactions while you're playing Mario Kart or Mario Party. And I think that that is really, really important. Like during COVID, when everyone's playing like Animal Crossing together and Super Smash Bros. together and stuff.

• 44:34David Imel?

You didn't really have that party experience from like being in person with people and like seeing their reactions. And like that, that's a huge part of the fun.

• 44:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 44:43David Imel?

Of gaming with people. And so being able to actually see their reactions in their faces is very, very cool.

• 44:48Andrew Manganelli?

I think in Mario Party, it's one step further where generally you would have like the little circle next to your character that would show your avatar. Now it just shows straight up your cam- your face on your camera. Yeah. So like attached to your character playing Mario Party, your face is right there. Like that's a awesome way of doing it. I mean, everyone who plays games on like the computer, they're used to having Discord and party chat. I know PlayStation's like incorporated Discord, but this is a first party, voice chat, all set up inside your, your system already. And now that you have a camera, you can either, yeah, play Mario Kart, see everyone's reactions on like the bottom of the screen, like a Zoom call. Inside of everything.

• 45:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 45:26Andrew Manganelli?

  Was brilliant.

• 45:27David Imel?

It's so awesome. I think it's, it's the closest thing that you can do to actually being in person with people and playing with them and on, in your living room.

• 45:34Andrew Manganelli?

And not having to set up a Zoom call on the side, which.

• 45:36David Imel?

  Which I've done.

• 45:37Andrew Manganelli?

I'm sure all of us have done is pretty annoying.

• 45:39David Imel?

  It sucks. Yeah.

• 45:40Speaker 01

Yeah. Now they also showed this feature where if you and a friend are both local and you both have a Switch. Then you can share a game that only one of you has to the other Switch. So you can play it at the same time with them.

• 45:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 45:53Speaker 01

Now they showed this kind of like basic, like sort of backgammon looking game. So I would like to be, I'm interested in what other games will end up supporting this, but the idea is, okay, I have a Switch. I have this game I want you to play with me, but I don't want to break my controller off and hand it to you and we play on this tiny screen because you also have a Switch.

• 46:08David Imel?

  Right.

• 46:08Speaker 01

So I will share essentially some files, some part of the game with your Switch. We're both local, we're on the same network. Now we're both playing on our own Switch, but in the same game.

• 46:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 46:17Speaker 01

  I think that's cool, too.

• 46:18David Imel?

  I think that's very cool.

• 46:19Speaker 01

Um, and we'll see what games end up supporting it. And then the other thing that was kind of big to me, because I, I've had my Switch for a while. I have a 32 gig Switch and I didn't buy a micro SD card. So I have three games on my Switch. Is the base storage is 256 gigs now instead of 32.

• 46:33David Imel?

Marques tried updating the games the other day and it just like.

• 46:36Speaker 01

It said you can update two of the games, pick two, because the third one, not enough space for that.

• 46:41David Imel?

  Wow.

• 46:42Speaker 01

But now you can put way more games on the Switch. Now, the question that we don't, we have a lot of unknowns with the Switch, and I'll start to go through those. We don't know how big the new Switch 2 games will be. So 256 gigs is great, but I also assume that Switch 2 games are going to be bigger because they're higher fidelity and they need, they have more graphics and that might still only be room for three games.

• 47:01David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:03Speaker 01

But yes, there is still micro SD Express support, you need a faster card.

• 47:07David Imel?

  It's a different card.

• 47:08Speaker 01

  Still put a card in.

• 47:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:09Speaker 01

So that's one. Number two, I haven't heard or read much about battery life. It's still as thin as it was, I assume the battery is a similar size. I don't know if the battery will be significantly better or worse.

• 47:21David Imel?

  It's taller.

• 47:21Speaker 01

  Larger. It is bigger.

• 47:23David Imel?

  It's a larger system.

• 47:25Speaker 01

So anytime you have a bigger screen and a bigger battery, you end up kind of cancelling some of that out. So I don't know if they've made any announcements regarding like fast charging or having a significantly better battery in any way, but I'm wondering about that.

• 47:36David Imel?

Yeah. I think it'll have better battery life because usually bigger screen, bigger battery, the battery still has an edge. Like if you look at like the iPhone Max, you know, it's a bigger screen, but there's a bigger battery and it usually has better battery than.

• 47:49Speaker 01

I guess like this screen is so much bigger and brighter potentially.

• 47:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:53Speaker 01

  And higher refresh rate.

• 47:54David Imel?

And the games, yeah, because they added a, they also added a fan to the dock, so they're kind of acknowledging it's going to get hotter.

• 48:00Speaker 01

  Yeah. So.

• 48:01David Imel?

  TBD on that.

• 48:02Speaker 01

Yeah. I guess those are the two main unknowns for me. Also, things like durability, Joy-Con drift, any issues that might come up, we'll see.

• 48:11David Imel?

Yeah, the question is like, do the, are these Hall effect Joy-Cons? That would be a good question because.

• 48:16Speaker 01

  They didn't say those words.

• 48:17David Imel?

People were making like Hall effect mods to the Joy-Cons before because the Joy-Con drift was like a major issue. I assume Nintendo would have kind of tackled that problem.

• 48:28Speaker 01

They had to know about it, so I hope so.

• 48:29David Imel?

Oh my God, they've known about it for a very long time, so hopefully they tackled that. They didn't mention anything about it specifically though, which is interesting.

• 48:37Speaker 01

And then, yeah, we'll see what games come out for it because there will be, kind of as they mentioned, there will be Switch 2 games, which will have all the optimization, they'll take advantage of the camera if you have one and all these.

• 48:46David Imel?

Cool features. If you get Switch one games, some of them will be compatible. And then some of them will get updated Switch two versions of them.

• 48:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:55David Imel?

Which will again, take advantage of the features.

• 48:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, you have to pay.

• 48:58David Imel?

  You have to pay.

• 48:58Andrew Manganelli?

You have to buy like an upgrade pack.

• 49:00David Imel?

An upgrade pack, yeah. Which I do not like very much.

• 49:04Andrew Manganelli?

No, that I think that was the biggest L of the announcement, although we don't know pricing. Hey, wait a minute. I don't know where this is being incorporated into the episode, but it is Thursday. I have Ellis sitting next to me.

• 49:14Speaker 04

  Sup.

• 49:15Andrew Manganelli?

When we recorded this directly after the event, not everything was out. One pretty big piece of news came out and that is Mario Kart World will be eighty dollars for the online version and ninety dollars for the physical copy. There's also some weird thing about physical copies. There's a lot more we're discovering, but I just wanted to put that out there. We did not know these pricings.

• 49:38Speaker 04

  No, we did not.

• 49:38Andrew Manganelli?

Um, so the rest of the conversation, understand that and next week I'm sure we will learn so much more.

• 49:44Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 49:44Andrew Manganelli?

About pricing and the Switch two and we'll update everything next week.

• 49:49Speaker 04

Seems like there's also some Ray Tracy stuff coming out.

• 49:52Andrew Manganelli?

  There is.

• 49:52Speaker 04

And some digital versus physical store download and the cartridge. We don't know if the cartridges still taste bad. Please enjoy the rest of our, uh, Switch two discussion and just know that, uh, we were, we were still in the dark when we had this conversation, but now we see the light and next week we will share that light with you.

• 50:10Speaker 01

Next week for Switch two, the, the switching.

• 50:14Speaker 04

  Switch, Switch two, two.

• 50:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Part two.

• 50:18David Imel?

There's, there's big updates and there's small updates. Like there's games that got a whole new world that you can play in. But then there's like the Zelda games, which have better fidelity, basically. It's like brighter HDR support and, and like higher resolution. But you have to buy that.

• 50:34Speaker 01

Yeah. So I'm wondering how much of a difference those updated versions of the games will actually make.

• 50:38David Imel?

And how much you have to pay.

• 50:39Speaker 01

Fidelity and like, yeah, how much is it?

• 50:41David Imel?

If it was like five to $10, I think that's understandable, but if it was like 20, that seems like it's pushing.

• 50:46Andrew Manganelli?

  20 would be tough.

• 50:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 50:49Andrew Manganelli?

What? So, pricing wise, the only thing we didn't mention is, I think the camera's fifty bucks, you said?

• 50:54David Imel?

  Yes, the camera's fifty dollars.

• 50:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 50:56David Imel?

Uh, the console is four forty-nine, and there's a bundle with that and a new Mario Kart game called Mario Kart World, which is five hundred dollars, so you're basically paying fifty dollars.

• 51:07Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, but it looks like a sick game, but what do we think, pricing wise, on that?

• 51:12Speaker 01

Four forty-nine, so the original Switch, way back when, when it launched, was two ninety-nine at launch.

• 51:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 51:17Speaker 01

Uh, considering how much better this one is, how many, how much bigger the screen is, inflation, a bunch of other factors, and now it's twenty twenty-five, I'm not mad at four forty-nine, to be honest. That's just me. I think some people will think about, I'm gonna buy the Switch, and then how many games am I gonna buy, and then how much total am I spending? And then you kinda have to think more about that, but I'm not mad at the four forty-nine.

• 51:39David Imel?

  I think it's quite a lot.

• 51:41Speaker 01

It's high, but it's not, like, absurd to me.

• 51:43Andrew Manganelli?

I'm not surprised by it. I was hoping it was gonna be three ninety-nine. Um, but I still think it fits in that slot of not, correct me if I'm wrong, not as expensive as, like, a PS5 or the new Xbox. It still, like, slots in under those more expensive game consoles. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

• 52:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 52:02Speaker 01

  The original-

• 52:02Andrew Manganelli?

Although I guess at this point, it's out years and years after those two launched, but-

• 52:08David Imel?

PS5 Slim is five hundred, so if you get it with the bundle, it's the same price as the PS5 Slim.

• 52:15Speaker 01

The Switch one was twenty seventeen.

• 52:17David Imel?

  Yeah, I know.

• 52:18Speaker 01

  So it's been-

• 52:19David Imel?

  It's been eight years.

• 52:20Speaker 01

Eight years, and it's gone up a hundred and fifty dollars total.

• 52:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, PS5 is four ninety-nine?

• 52:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 52:26Andrew Manganelli?

And the digital editions with no disk drives, three ninety-nine. So, yeah, it's more expensive than those. They did come out earlier. Yeah, it's like, kind of a tougher price, but also, we all know it's not going to deter anybody from buying it that was interested in buying it.

• 52:42David Imel?

I think it'd, I mean, a big, a big seller for Nintendo is the parents who buy it for their kids at Christmas, and the difference between-

• 52:50Speaker 01

A $300 console? Oh yeah, but none of us thought it was gonna be $300, right? No, but I thought maybe $379. Because yes, it's much better in every way, but it's also been eight years. So it's a lot easier to buy a 256 gig NAND chip to put in the device. It probably costs the same or probably actually less than it costs them to put a 32 gig chip in it. Yeah. Eight years ago. So. I'm, yeah, very curious about the new screen. I want to look at this new screen. I want to see how much better it actually looks. Uh, I appreciate the 4K 120 or the 1080 120. Thank you. Uh, but yeah, we'll, we'll kind of have to be a judge. We're again, recording this before I get that hands on. Yeah.

• 53:33Speaker 01

I'll sort of try to detail that in the video. So if you guys haven't already watched that video, by the time this podcast comes out, that video should also be out. Hmm. So check out the hands on video. There's no embargo on the hands on? Nope. It's just going right up. That's insane. Yeah. Should be fun. But yeah, that's Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo.

• 53:48Andrew Manganelli?

Mario Kart World looked pretty sweet.

• 53:51Speaker 01

So I've mostly not played a lot of Mario Kart, but it seems like the open world concept is a big difference versus the original Mario Kart. Like Mario Kart, you kind of get people who just like memorize exactly how they play certain maps and then you just go crazy where the gameplay that they were showing and these people were just being very social about just like driving around, just seeing what's happening, not really racing as much, which is interesting.

• 54:16Andrew Manganelli?

There's a couple of things where one's called Free roam where you can just roam around the maps and like take photos with your friends and stuff, which is like, if you're really into it, that's cool.

• 54:25Speaker 01

  Is that Mario Kart?

• 54:25Andrew Manganelli?

I thought what's cool is so like, one of the ways you play normal Mario Kart is a Grand Prix where you play four different maps that are all in one. But it used to like segment them into you play Rainbow Road and then you play whatever map. And now you drive between them inside of the Grand Prix.

• 54:41Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 54:41Andrew Manganelli?

Which is really cool. And then there's another one called Knockout, I believe where, because in this game you can have up to 24 players on a map, which is the most they've ever had.

• 54:50Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 54:50Andrew Manganelli?

But they kind of have it. It's not within the Grand Prix. They showed it quickly. It seems like there's a map of all the different racetracks and they take a large chunk of racetracks. You drive and you drive between them and then there's checkpoints within the racetracks where. It'll knock out like eight people in the first one. So if you're not within the top 16 as you hit that, you get knocked out. And then so you drive further and further and further and these longer and longer iterations of different maps sequenced together and then until one person's left at the end, which I think sounds really cool.

• 55:22Speaker 04

  It's the chase.

• 55:23Andrew Manganelli?

  The chase.

• 55:24Speaker 04

That's what that's how the NASCAR playoffs work. When they first introduced that system, they called it the chase.

• 55:29Andrew Manganelli?

Except imagine if they drove from Talladega to Daytona in between.

• 55:34Speaker 04

  In the NASCAR.

• 55:35David Imel?

That would be kind of sick. Not not gonna lie.

• 55:37Speaker 04

They can in fact go 500 miles. So.

• 55:41David Imel?

Yeah, they just don't turn right very well.

• 55:43Speaker 04

And they could go. That's not true. That's such a third of the season has right turns.

• 55:47David Imel?

Yeah, but they they set up those cars a certain way for certain tracks. So just, you know, be careful on those city streets. I'm just saying. Yeah, there's something else. They're they're releasing this game called Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. Yeah, this this is a pretty big L from me because you have to buy it.

• 56:05Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, you have to buy it?

• 56:06David Imel?

I have a problem with. Oh. It should have been free. Yeah, I mean, the Wii came with Wii Sports. And the PS5 came with Astros World.

• 56:11Andrew Manganelli?

Did it come with Astros World?

• 56:12David Imel?

You got that for free. I don't. I think they released an Astro Bot bundle.

• 56:16Speaker 04

Astro Bot was the game they announced after Astro World.

• 56:20David Imel?

  Was it Travis Scott?

• 56:20Speaker 04

  First PlayStation.

• 56:21David Imel?

  You're right. Yeah.

• 56:22Speaker 04

  Was it really called that?

• 56:24David Imel?

  I, yeah.

• 56:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Astros Playroom.

• 56:26David Imel?

  Astros Playroom.

• 56:26Speaker 04

Yeah, I was gonna like, that is the Travis Scott.

• 56:29David Imel?

That's why I said we are Astros. Sorry Astros Playroom on the PlayStation 5. But that was the same thing. It was like a demo. You get all the springs. I think it's important to be able to show users like all the benefits of the console that they're playing. And I think that they made this game, like the the Welcome Tour game actually looks very cool, where you you run around a giant Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2. Same thing PlayStation did. And you basically just like you look at the different parts of the console and it tells you really interesting tidbits about it. And it teaches you how to use the mouse and all this stuff. Why would you have to pay for that? That makes no sense. Like, you release Wii Sports for free with the Wii, which is one of the most iconic games of all time. And then you have to buy the basically like glorified

• 57:12Speaker 01

  Demo?

• 57:13David Imel?

Demo guide of how to use the console. Like, that's crazy.

• 57:16Speaker 01

Is it gonna be, did they say a price?

• 57:18David Imel?

They didn't. They just said it was a paid digital game. I just think that's a huge, it should have just come, it should have come built into the console.

• 57:24Speaker 01

That was a big miss, yeah.

• 57:25David Imel?

  Who's gonna buy that?

• 57:26Speaker 01

I would never have bought Astro's Playroom, but because of how good it was, I learned a lot about what it was capable of. And then went on to go get games that I thought would take advantage of the future.

• 57:35David Imel?

  Teaches you the new features.

• 57:36Speaker 01

If I didn't have Astro's Playroom, I would not have learned a lot of that stuff. So, being free, being included, being easy to access would have been awesome for this game now.

• 57:43David Imel?

Other things, they, they just released, or they're going to release this new game that takes advantage of the mouse control. It's sort of a combination between basketball and also you're in a wheelchair and it's a whole thing.

• 57:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It's Rocket League in wheelchairs.

• 57:54David Imel?

It's Rocket League with wheelchairs and basketball, which is interesting. Uh, but it's not using existing IP and it's focused on the mouse control. And I think that it is more beneficial to release existing IP that uses new play interaction, because it gets people to do it. Like, uh, when The Legend of Zelda, um, Skyward, not Skyward Sword, um...

• 58:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't get this wrong.

• 58:20David Imel?

Twilight Princess came out. They released it concurrently on the GameCube and the Wii. And the whole thing that was beneficial for the Wii was that you could use the motion controls to kind of use Link's sword. And so they released this new IP that teaches you how to use the motion controls and really plays into the motion control thing. And that's awesome because people are gonna freaking play Zelda anyway. But they're not planning, like, people are not planning on buying this game that's like Rocket League with wheelchairs and basketball, you know what I mean? It's just kind of a random...

• 58:47Andrew Manganelli?

It makes the most sense of how the, they work, because if they need to be flat down on a table and pushed on both sides, it's like the two wheels of a wheelchair. And you can like wave to get the ball passed to you and stuff like that. You're right, though. I don't think a lot of people are gonna buy it. Or it's gonna be like an instant cult classic and everyone's gonna be obsessed with it. I don't think that's what's gonna happen, but it could. That's probably what they're hoping for. Um, they talked about a bunch of different games. Does everyone wanna pick like? One they saw?

• 59:17David Imel?

That they liked? Okay, oh wait, oh, I'll get there anyway. Uh, Kirby Air Riders. But, okay, Kirby Air Ride was a GameCube game that encapsulated much of my childhood.

• 59:29Speaker 05

It was so much more than a game.

• 59:30David Imel?

It was more than a game.

• 59:31Speaker 05

  It was an epoch.

• 59:31David Imel?

It was an epoch. It was an epoch. I, there is, there's core memories burned into my brain of sitting in my living room playing that game for like hours on end with my friends, so Kirby Air Riders I'm extremely excited for.

• 59:43Andrew Manganelli?

There's one that just, it felt like they were trying to hit me in nostalgia personally. It was a new Tony Hawk game. And they're showing it and I'm like, I remember Tony Hawk. I don't know if I would have that much fun anymore. And then within the last three seconds of the gameplay, they're just like SpongeBob level and then cut and it was like Tony Hawk. I was like, what are you doing? Just like out of nowhere, he's just like in Bikini Bottom.

• 1:00:06David Imel?

They know their core audience. They're like, people that played Pro Skater were also SpongeBob fans, so here you go.

• 1:00:12Speaker 01

  That is a solid overlap.

• 1:00:13David Imel?

That is very smart of them.

• 1:00:14Speaker 01

I see NBA 2K is coming, so I'm curious to play that. We'll see how that is.

• 1:00:18Andrew Manganelli?

  On the airplane?

• 1:00:19Speaker 01

Yeah, well, I won't be playing online, but I'm a big MyCareer guy, so I could play anywhere. Six hour, six hour flight? Trust me, I'm on that grind. I'll be developing my player.

• 1:00:29David Imel?

What are the games that you guys were excited for?

• 1:00:31Speaker 05

  Pokemon ZA, baby.

• 1:00:34David Imel?

Did you ever play Arceus, Legends Arceus?

• 1:00:36Speaker 05

  No.

• 1:00:36David Imel?

Oh, well, it's the other one.

• 1:00:38Andrew Manganelli?

Pokemon ZA? That's what it's called?

• 1:00:40Speaker 05

  It's Pokemon ZA.

• 1:00:42David Imel?

  I don't know, man. It's Japan.

• 1:00:44Speaker 04

  What is Project 007?

• 1:00:46David Imel?

  It's a James Bond game.

• 1:00:47Andrew Manganelli?

They showed very little. They, it literally was just like the opening, looking down the barrel, 007 scene, and it just said like, 007, the world's most famous hitman or assassin.

• 1:00:57Speaker 04

Cause hot take, I thought the Wii release of GoldenEye, it wasn't like a remaster, it was like kind of its own thing, was, uh, one of my favorite Wii games.

• 1:01:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 1:01:09Speaker 04

Yeah, so if they can do this right. I'm pretty into it. Also, I apologize if any of you heard Zuri snoring. It's hard to wake up a cute puppy.

• 1:01:16Andrew Manganelli?

I didn't hear it at all. Don't wake her up.

• 1:01:18Speaker 04

  We've done it twice.

• 1:01:19Andrew Manganelli?

  How dare you?

• 1:01:20David Imel?

But possibly one of the biggest announcements. GameCube is coming to Switch Online.

• 1:01:27Speaker 05

  For a small fee.

• 1:01:28David Imel?

Well, as part of Switch Online.

• 1:01:30Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, that's the last Nintendo console that I played a lot of.

• 1:01:34David Imel?

  Oh, dude, it's so good.

• 1:01:35Speaker 01

Like, I had a friend, actually, my friend who had the game, who had the GameCube also had a Nintendo Wii, but that GameCube does have some little bit of nostalgia in my heart, just a little bit.

• 1:01:45David Imel?

People have been asking for them to add this for so long. And so you're gonna be able to play Wind Waker, you're gonna be able to play Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness.

• 1:01:54Speaker 04

  Original Kirbyrai.

• 1:01:56David Imel?

  Potentially original Kirbyrai.

• 1:01:58Speaker 04

  Super Monkey Ball.

• 1:01:59David Imel?

There's just, there's so many, and then...

• 1:02:01Speaker 04

  Wave Race.

• 1:02:01David Imel?

  I'm just, I'm...

• 1:02:03Speaker 04

  SSX Tricky.

• 1:02:04David Imel?

Oh! So many good games. Uh, they're also releasing a GameCube controller that is wireless that can hook up to the console so you can play those GameCube games more natively.

• 1:02:14Andrew Manganelli?

They could charge $4.49 for that and people, it would fly off the shelves still.

• 1:02:18David Imel?

Yeah, yeah, true. Um, and then it also has an additional C button to do the, you know, to do the community chat stuff.

• 1:02:26David Imel?

So I'm very excited for that.

• 1:02:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Because if you ever...

• 1:02:28David Imel?

  I wanna relive my childhood.

• 1:02:29Andrew Manganelli?

Have you ever played any of the Civ games?

• 1:02:31David Imel?

  Civ?

• 1:02:32Speaker 01

  Civilization.

• 1:02:33David Imel?

Oh, I thought you said Sim. Uh, nope.

• 1:02:35Andrew Manganelli?

I, I guess I'm an idiot and never realized they were on console, but they showed Civ 6 and... Like, the, it sounds, I, I'm hoping the console controls are good because rotting on my couch and playing Civilization sounds like the greatest thing ever. Cause doing it in your chair and when it's 5 a.m., your back's starting to hurt. But if it's 5 a.m. and I'm just lounging on the couch with a nice blanket...

• 1:02:57Speaker 04

Dude, according to Wikipedia, it's on Android.

• 1:03:00Andrew Manganelli?

Oh my god. Don't tell me that, I'll get nothing done.

• 1:03:04David Imel?

  Dude.

• 1:03:04Andrew Manganelli?

It's a great, you should play it. I think you would like that game. It's super low-key, you can play as much or as little as you want and by as little I mean, as much as you want and...

• 1:03:12David Imel?

We'll see how much storage I end up with. I'll try that. That'll be one of my first few games on the Switch 2. Literally, all of the games that are coming for the GameCube are just, they're just my childhood, just wrapped in one.

• 1:03:23Speaker 01

  This is the most...

• 1:03:24David Imel?

Super Mario Sunshine, Chibi Robo, Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers. Ugh.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

If they wanna hit me in the nostalgia personally, I'm gonna need Truck Simulator.

• 1:03:36David Imel?

  Eighteen wheels of steel.

• 1:03:37Speaker 04

  Are you serious?

• 1:03:38David Imel?

  Eighteen wheels of steel.

• 1:03:39Andrew Manganelli?

I just want, I hope Marquez plays Truck Simulator with the split Joy-Con horizontal. Only those controls.

• 1:03:47David Imel?

The Joy-Con mouse control and I'm just using the wheel like this.

• 1:03:50Andrew Manganelli?

Yo, it's the shift, it's the manual shift with the mouse control.

• 1:03:55David Imel?

Wait to get in. So you have nostalgia for Truck Simulator?

• 1:03:58Speaker 04

I'm just like shocked, as someone who also plays really boring games, I did not.

• 1:04:04David Imel?

No, bro, I customized the heck out of my truck. I was going cross-country every week.

• 1:04:08Speaker 04

You guys are broken human beings. I don't understand why you would do.

• 1:04:11David Imel?

  Was.

• 1:04:12Speaker 04

Oh, we've evolved. We've evolved. I'm, I had no idea.

• 1:04:15David Imel?

Yeah. Nintendo will get there. Oh, there's, there's Tractor Simulator, there's Truck Simulator.

• 1:04:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Farm Simulator.

• 1:04:22David Imel?

Goat Simulator. Switch 2, anyway. Nintendo Switch 2. No, this has been fun. Hey, watch the video if you haven't already. Check out the hands-on. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section. Switch 2, Switch 2, Switch 2, Switch 2.

• 1:04:33Speaker 04

  Nintendo.

• 1:04:33David Imel?

Trivia time. Can you ask them if you can have an additional person follow you into the room?

• 1:04:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, there's no reason.

• 1:04:41David Imel?

  Can I keep it?

• 1:04:44Andrew Manganelli?

Did we mention that it launches?

• 1:04:46David Imel?

  Dune 5.

• 1:04:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Dune 5, 2025.

• 1:04:48David Imel?

And, and, uh, pre-orders begin in one week from, of time of recording, which is the 9th of April. But, but, if you have had a Switch Online subscription for one year and you have 50 hours of playtime on the Switch, you'll get an early access, uh, preorder invite for April 8th. Which ya boy meets the requirements for.

• 1:05:10Andrew Manganelli?

I think that's, I think that's super reasonable. That can also deter a lot of people from trying to flip this.

• 1:05:16David Imel?

Yeah, I wonder how many people that trims out, 50 hours.

• 1:05:19Andrew Manganelli?

Well, it trims out people who have never played the Switch before that just wanna try and make a ton of money off of it.

• 1:05:23David Imel?

And you have had to pay a subscription, because it was, you would have to have paid the subscription for a year before today.

• 1:05:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:30David Imel?

So nobody can like game the system now. And I think that's very smart.

• 1:05:34Andrew Manganelli?

  That's good.

• 1:05:34David Imel?

It's gonna be the hardcore people are gonna be able to buy it right away, which I think is awesome. Someone's gonna have to like sell their account that has all the requirements, so that the bots can get in.

• 1:05:43Speaker 04

  Ya boy is selling his.

• 1:05:45Speaker 05

If you want it, you know where to find me.

• 1:05:47Speaker 01

  Taking bids right now.

• 1:05:48Speaker 05

  Taking bids.

• 1:05:49Speaker 01

  One thousand.

• 1:05:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Four fifty-one.

• 1:05:52Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 1:05:53Speaker 05

  Uh, trivia.

• 1:05:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:55Speaker 05

  All right.

• 1:05:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:56Speaker 05

  Next question.

• 1:05:58Speaker 01

  What Nintendo Switch game?

• 1:05:59Speaker 05

Nintendo Switch two, Nintendo Switch two, Nintendo Switch two, yeah. But we also briefly mentioned Mario. Fun fact. Mario's first appearance was not in a Mario game. What game was it?

• 1:06:15Andrew Manganelli?

Sounds like, isn't this, was it Mickey Mouse? Like, this is the Mickey Mouse lore.

• 1:06:21Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's the Mario lore.

• 1:06:22David Imel?

  The Mario movie, right?

• 1:06:23Speaker 05

  Yeah, it's the Mario movie.

• 1:06:25Andrew Manganelli?

That's the first time we ever saw Mario.

• 1:06:27Speaker 05

The first time we ever saw Mario was in Steamboat Willie.

• 1:06:31Speaker 01

  I definitely don't know this.

• 1:06:33David Imel?

Yeah, he was the villain in Steamboat Willie.

• 1:06:36David Imel?

He was trying to plumb the ocean so that the ship would sink.

• 1:06:38Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, wait, I actually do know.

• 1:06:40David Imel?

Shareholder value didn't hold it up anymore.

• 1:06:43Speaker 01

There's a point that you guys get and I don't. All right, well, hey, we got one more section after the break. Be right back.

• 1:07:02Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:08:50Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. There's still a little bit of other stuff that happened. Surprisingly, a lot of things happened in the tech world this week. An article was published about future Meta smart glasses plans. Maybe not even that far in the future, maybe this year. Meta's coming out with smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova. That will be over a thousand dollars and have a monocular screen in the lower right-hand side of one of the lenses. And so that will give you a visual UI and a whole bunch of things that come with that. I am not surprised by this. I think it could be cool. We all are very familiar with how popular those Ray-Ban Meta glasses have become, which just have the speaker and the Meta AI and the camera lens on the front.

• 1:09:34Speaker 01

This would be able to give users a lot more control, a lot more visual experiences. Obviously, they can translate things in front of you and show you arrows where you're supposed to be walking and driving, things like that. So, doesn't shock me. It'll be interesting to see when they come out, but cool.

• 1:09:50David Imel?

There was a time when I was optimistic about the future.

• 1:09:56Speaker 01

  Damn, it's got dark.

• 1:09:57David Imel?

When Google Glass was announced and everything was exciting and fun.

• 1:10:02David Imel?

And now, considering it is Meta, I just think they're gonna track your eye movement. And that's gonna be used to sell you ads.

• 1:10:11Andrew Manganelli?

As far as I know, there's no camera at your eyes.

• 1:10:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, in this, in Quest.

• 1:10:19David Imel?

  Yes.

• 1:10:20Speaker 01

I don't know. Sorry to be...

• 1:10:23Andrew Manganelli?

  The way I am.

• 1:10:24Speaker 01

That did that did come up around the time of Google Glass. The technology was nowhere near that good yet, but people saw Google Glass and fast forward it in their brain all the way to, I'm gonna look at a blank billboard and in real time, someone's gonna buy that ad space personalized to me.

• 1:10:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:41Speaker 01

And then I'm gonna have to pay for ad block for it to be like blurred or something.

• 1:10:45Andrew Manganelli?

Which I could see Meta doing.

• 1:10:47Speaker 01

But the technology also has to go a really, really long way to get to that even being a possibility, whether the companies like the idea or not, which is they have to have the ability to overlay tracked objects over the real world, which is like barely possible.

• 1:11:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Do okay.

• 1:11:03Speaker 01

And also then track your eye movement and place personalized ads on those billboards. And then the infrastructure of like having blank billboards in the real world.

• 1:11:12Andrew Manganelli?

None of that's even remotely possible with what they're talking about here though, because it's in the lower right hand of your eyes, not even in your eyesight and there's no cameras on your eyes.

• 1:11:20Speaker 01

So monocular screen is just being able to show you something kinda like Google Glass. It would be kinda just like a small little thing hovering over the real world, which is still cool. I would like to be able to have that, but.

• 1:11:34Andrew Manganelli?

You'd have to like specifically look at it. Like this is not something that's coming in augmented reality because it's probably in the bottom right. So you'd have to like, it'd be in your peripheral. You have to be like, oh, I got a notification. Look down kind of thing.

• 1:11:47Speaker 05

Is this better or worse than checking your smartwatch in the middle of a conversation?

• 1:11:51Speaker 01

  It's way better.

• 1:11:52Speaker 05

  Really?

• 1:11:52Speaker 01

  It's so.

• 1:11:52Speaker 05

Like if we're just having conversation and then you like look all the way in your bottom left.

• 1:11:56Speaker 01

I'll tell you why it's better, because I've tried some of these and I don't know what it is, but the association that people have with when you raise your wrist up and check it is like rude. Like you're.

• 1:12:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, but.

• 1:12:06Speaker 01

  Ready to leave.

• 1:12:06Speaker 05

  But isn't it normalized now?

• 1:12:08Speaker 01

It is a little bit, but I think in conversation, obviously eye contact exists, but there's a lot of just like, hmm, looking at the horizon, oh, like thinking about stuff. And in those glances away, you can literally read something. And so it's in, in my opinion, way less intrusive than checking your watch.

• 1:12:24Andrew Manganelli?

But then you're just gonna get distracted and you're not gonna be able to actually hold a conversation with.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

Sorry, David, what was that? I was reading.

• 1:12:31Andrew Manganelli?

Like it's gonna be so much more likely.

• 1:12:32David Imel?

That you just you your brain is gonna be moving towards another thing and then you're gonna forget what you're talking about with the person in front of you.

• 1:12:39Speaker 01

It is a balancing act. I the demos that I've had so far were very intentional. So they were like, I was talking to someone speaking another language and the transcription of what they were saying was appearing on the glasses live in front of me. And I alternated between eye contact and reading that transcription pretty quickly in a way that felt pretty natural because it's glasses.

• 1:13:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:03Speaker 01

Uh, where I don't think that would have worked as well with a phone or a watch trying to do the same thing.

• 1:13:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:09Speaker 01

But yeah, you're right. If it's just I'm talking to you and a notification appears, that does feel bad. It feels like I'm gonna, I just got distracted.

• 1:13:17David Imel?

Yeah, I can see in specific contexts, it can be very useful. But when taken to the extreme of we're just gonna show you all your notifications that are on your phone. It's like, you're just gonna be distracted all the time.

• 1:13:28Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I'm assuming you like, I only have certain notifications that come up on my watch. So like, I'm assuming within the meta software, you can pick which notifications you want to come up. I'm sure there's a do not disturb mode.

• 1:13:39Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:13:40Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, like, ultimately, if you're the one letting all of those notifications come into that space.

• 1:13:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:45Andrew Manganelli?

Then you're just probably the type of person who doesn't care about a conversation as much. Like, you still have to control those things.

• 1:13:51Speaker 01

I had a Slack notifications on your watch.

• 1:13:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Me?

• 1:13:54Speaker 01

  Which one of you?

• 1:13:55Andrew Manganelli?

I do. No, Marcus is everything. His watch goes off the entire time.

• 1:13:58Speaker 01

It's blasting. It's telling me something. Miles just finished a workout. Oh, by the way.

• 1:14:03David Imel?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:14:04Speaker 01

Constant things happening. Uh, I had a kind of a hot take. Oh, uh, it's not even that hot of a take. Maybe it is. We'll see.

• 1:14:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Do it.

• 1:14:14Speaker 01

Who has a minimal phone? You have that light phone?

• 1:14:16Speaker 05

Not on me, but I could go get it.

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

So no, you don't have to get it. I just think, here's the take. We live in this world where humans can just get smartphones and can have this incredible access to all the world and information and social media and emails and everything around us. And to many people, it is very distracting and they end up wanting to go, ah, this is too much. Give me a minimal phone. Where I don't get distracted by as much of that stuff. If you are so distracted by your phone that you have to spend extra money for a worse phone, you lack discipline.

• 1:14:45David Imel?

  Well, okay.

• 1:14:46Andrew Manganelli?

  No, that's not fair.

• 1:14:49David Imel?

  That's not fair.

• 1:14:50Speaker 01

Because these companies literally, they they understand human psychology and they use ways like meta.

• 1:15:00David Imel?

On Facebook Messenger, I literally, Facebook Messenger will send me notifications that are like, "Hey, check back on this conversation you had with this person five years ago." Because they want me to open the app.

• 1:15:14Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:15:14David Imel?

You know what I mean? It's like, I understand where you're coming from, because I think most things in life, there are many like, quick tricks to like, fix your problems quickly. But those never work, because ultimately, you have to develop the discipline to actually like, going to the gym, or like, doing all these things. You have to actually just want it so bad that you do it. But these companies are actively trying to get around your discipline.

• 1:15:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:39David Imel?

So, yes, it's kind of your fault, but it's also the company's fault.

• 1:15:43Speaker 01

It is definitely shared responsibility, but it is kind of a crutch.

• 1:15:47Speaker 04

I just, I don't think it's fair, I don't think it's fair to be like, "You're undisciplined when literal billions of dollars are being spent to like, break your discipline."

• 1:16:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:00Speaker 04

  You know what I mean?

• 1:16:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:01Speaker 04

That's, I am, I am one guy, you know what I mean? Compared to the world's investors funneling through Meta's veins, just trying to get me to pull out my phone six extra times per day.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:16:13Speaker 04

  You know?

• 1:16:14Speaker 01

I just think, the minimal phones, like, when I look at the ads for them, and when I look at what they actually are, they are a, like, a black and white phone that only lets you make phone calls, text, and there's what, a couple, like a Maps app, a couple other basic things like that?

• 1:16:29Speaker 04

That's the, that's the light phone.

• 1:16:30Speaker 01

  The light phone?

• 1:16:31Speaker 04

We should differentiate between the different minimal.

• 1:16:33Speaker 01

So I guess, the goal of something like a light phone is that you literally cannot open Instagram and scroll.

• 1:16:39David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:16:39Speaker 01

And you literally cannot open the web browser.

• 1:16:42Speaker 04

  The light phone, yes.

• 1:16:44Speaker 01

And, yeah, that, that line between, "I need a phone where I can't do it, because if I have the ability to do it, I just will." Yeah.

• 1:16:54David Imel?

I mean, a lot of people use these, sorry, I'll let you have some time.

• 1:16:57Speaker 04

I feel very strongly about this.

• 1:16:58David Imel?

I'll let you have some time.

• 1:16:59Speaker 04

Oh, I was just gonna say, don't think of it as, "I need this as a crutch." Think of it as, "I am putting a wall between me and the billions of dollars being spent to make my life worse."

• 1:17:10Speaker 01

  To make your life worse.

• 1:17:11Speaker 04

Yeah, because these companies know that like, remember the big meta leak where they they knew internally what their products do to teenagers' mental health. They were fully aware. They had all the research and they didn't stop. Because it's not about making your life better. None of none of these, I hate to break it to our audience. None of these companies release tech products to make your life better.

• 1:17:31Speaker 01

I actually am not so sure about that. I think that there is upside and downside. And that the companies who are trying to sell you the upside are trying to minimize the downside, but they're very aware of the downside. And it is a huge downside. But the the whole like, connect to the world and have access to what your friends are posting in general is not like, I hope to ruin your life with these photos.

• 1:17:52Speaker 04

  No.

• 1:17:53Speaker 01

It's but there is a big downside.

• 1:17:55Speaker 04

But but they knew, these companies know internally that the way they're serving it to you, the way they're sending you notification ads, the way they're presenting its data to you is to increase usage time. It's to increase the amount of time, it's to increase engagement, the amount of advertising, the amount of ads you see. So I don't, I think that buying the minimal phone is not just about, I can't do this myself. It's about now you can't do this to me.

• 1:18:19Speaker 01

Yeah, I'll use a, that's a fair point. I'll use YouTube as a specific example. YouTube, I would, I would think we all agree here is a pretty net positive service. Probably is better that YouTube exists in the world.

• 1:18:34Speaker 04

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:18:35Speaker 01

YouTube is actively in the business of trying to maximize how much time you spend on their website. Every little micro decision that they make, every decision we get confused about, why did you remove the like button, dislike button counter? Everything that they do is trying to maximize satisfied watch time. That is how a channel becomes successful. That is how a video becomes successful. That is how YouTube becomes successful. They show you more ads. They maximize how much time you spend on the site. At a certain point, you can fall down a rabbit hole, become addicted, spend way too much time on YouTube. And there is that downside. And trust me, YouTube is very aware of those downsides and the things that happen on their site. And they do a decent job of trying to minimize a lot of that stuff.

• 1:19:21Speaker 01

I hope I never have to buy a phone that doesn't have the YouTube on it because I am that addicted to YouTube. But I very much depend on YouTube and use it all the time. And accept the downsides that come with how much of an upside it is to have that experience.

• 1:19:36Speaker 04

  That's a fair point.

• 1:19:37Speaker 01

  Yeah, there's balancing act.

• 1:19:39Speaker 04

  Okay, you're right, you're right.

• 1:19:40David Imel?

  Another counterpoint.

• 1:19:43David Imel?

YouTube is like owned by Google, right? So they have a little bit of a.

• 1:19:47Speaker 01

I guess by Alphabet, but yeah.

• 1:19:48David Imel?

  By Alphabet.

• 1:19:48Speaker 01

  Whatever, same thing.

• 1:19:49David Imel?

So they have a bit of a, they have a bit of a padding for one, not being able to make or not needing to like maximize to the highest, highest degree possible all the time. And they're able to sort of optimize, like you said, for like satisfied watch time. To make you feel good about the platform to come back to it.

• 1:20:09Speaker 01

It's slightly, slightly different. I guess because before they just optimized maximum watch time, but sometimes people would arrive on a video and watch it and then leave halfway through because it wasn't what they were looking for. And they tried to like get people out of that funnel and into a different video that they would enjoy faster. Meaning that you do watch the video. So it's not necessarily a positive emotion. It's just actively finding and choosing and staying on the website longer.

• 1:20:35David Imel?

Yeah. They've also built an algorithm that is incredibly good at showing you things you actually like.

• 1:20:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:20:40David Imel?

I think that a platform like Meta where, you know, Instagram or Reels is completely dictated almost. I mean, you, there is a search function, but does anyone use the search function on Instagram besides to find someone's account? No. So whereas YouTube is like, it is, it is very much a choose your own adventure. Besides the homepage, which does drive a lot of views. So I think having more active control over what you're using the platform for makes it less addictive than something that just feeds you dopamine constantly.

• 1:21:14Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, YouTube does have a shorts carousel.

• 1:21:17David Imel?

  They do, but.

• 1:21:18Speaker 01

And you'd be surprised how many people use search on TikTok. I'm surprised by that all the time.

• 1:21:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:23Speaker 01

People like search for recipes, search for trends, search for restaurants.

• 1:21:28Speaker 04

I did see someone search for a. Specific video on Instagram.

• 1:21:32Speaker 01

Yeah. Apparently, it's like if you are in an area and you search on TikTok for like a certain restaurant, you'll you'll find little viral restaurant reviews in your area and then can visit that space. So it's interesting.

• 1:21:44Speaker 04

That's that's the reason I can't go to my favorite bakery anymore in Chinatown.

• 1:21:48Speaker 01

Can you follow up on TikTok?

• 1:21:48Speaker 04

Is it a bloop on TikTok?

• 1:21:49Speaker 01

Yeah. But yeah, anyway, that's why it's a hot take. So are we?

• 1:21:53David Imel?

  Anyway.

• 1:21:54Speaker 01

  Pro Meta glasses?

• 1:21:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:55Speaker 01

  Sorry.

• 1:21:56David Imel?

I need to take this down a.

• 1:21:57Speaker 01

Well, Meta glasses, again, will have an upside that comes with a downside. As we mentioned, it will be very useful for things like live transcription or showing you directions or whatever you're doing. But it will absolutely come with the downside of distracting you with notifications when you don't need them.

• 1:22:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:16Speaker 01

I can't imagine driving on the highway and getting a notification in the corner of my vision and how that isn't a horrible thing.

• 1:22:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:23Speaker 01

  So, yeah.

• 1:22:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:25Speaker 01

You get some and you lose some at the same time.

• 1:22:27David Imel?

My hot take is I would have, I would not have been as annoyed at this if it was literally any company but Meta that was making them.

• 1:22:34Speaker 01

Well, trust me, there will be more companies making them.

• 1:22:36David Imel?

I know there will, and they will probably be near, like near levels of like, I don't know about this. But Meta is possibly the worst one in my humblest opinion.

• 1:22:48Speaker 01

They're all bad. They all just want to make money. I think we all understand.

• 1:22:51David Imel?

  I know that.

• 1:22:51Speaker 04

However, however, if Meta had done this in like 2011, 2010, you know, back in the Google Glass era.

• 1:22:58David Imel?

  It would have been.

• 1:22:59Speaker 04

It would have been hilarious because it would have been like.

• 1:23:01David Imel?

  Facebook.

• 1:23:02Speaker 04

Andrew needs two more sheep in Farmville.

• 1:23:06David Imel?

  David poked you.

• 1:23:07Speaker 04

  Walking down the street.

• 1:23:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, David poked you.

• 1:23:09David Imel?

  What?

• 1:23:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:11Speaker 01

Anyway. So we'll find out by the end of 2025.

• 1:23:14David Imel?

Last little tiny little thing. Delta emulator, which is this awesome emulator for iOS that there are multiple stories about because they basically had it on this separate app store until they were officially able to put on the real app store. They have now released an update that lets you do online multiplayer for Nintendo DS. And I think that's super cool. So congrats on that launch. That's all I wanted to say. Yeah.

• 1:23:36Speaker 01

  Without any further ado.

• 1:23:39Speaker 01

  It's trivia time.

• 1:23:44Speaker 01

I think we need new erasers.

• 1:23:46Speaker 04

Trivia time. All right. We were talking about April Fool's jokes. I have four in front of me. I'm going to read them real quick and you guys tell me which one I made up. One, Tesla goes bankrupt. Elon announces a Tesla bankruptcy on Twitter. Two, Google Mic Drop. You can email anyone a GIF of a minion dropping a mic with the touch of a button. C, Hulu's new app, Who, which is eight second cuts of TV shows. Or D, the Nikon D5100 selfie cam, which allows you to take selfies out of the EVF. Or it's not an EVF, it's just an OVF. It's an optical viewfinder. Yeah. You got it. You get it. You get it. All right. SLR. Which one did Ellis make up?

• 1:24:28Speaker 01

We all picked the same thing.

• 1:24:29Speaker 04

We all picked C. Who you picked?

• 1:24:32David Imel?

  Pac-Man.

• 1:24:32Speaker 01

I drew a C and then I drew a bunch of other stuff around the C.

• 1:24:35Speaker 04

Wait, is that a reference to Google's 2017 April Fool's joke where they let you play Pac-Man with Google Maps?

• 1:24:43Speaker 01

I remember that. That was one of the best ever. But no, I just got carried away with the C.

• 1:24:48Speaker 04

Very good. You're all wrong. I apologize.

• 1:24:51Speaker 01

  Was it the Nikon thing?

• 1:24:52Speaker 04

It was the Nikon thing. That was very well created. Thank you. Cause it would be a good April Fool's Day joke. Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. And I didn't even use AI to think of it. It was too good.

• 1:25:02David Imel?

Yeah. The thing with the Who thing is that there are real services that try to do that. So it's kind of funny to make an April Fool's Day joke around other people's business models.

• 1:25:12Speaker 04

  Well, this was 2017, so.

• 1:25:14David Imel?

  That's fair.

• 1:25:15Speaker 04

They were ahead of the time.

• 1:25:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:17Speaker 04

Anyway, Adam's going to read the score and then give you your second question.

• 1:25:23Speaker 04

Marquez with 15. Andrew with 7. David in the lead, carrying the one with 16.

• 1:25:32Speaker 01

Really only one? Damn. What happened to my lead?

• 1:25:34Speaker 04

I know, sorry. And for his 17th season, Bobby Moynihan. Bad. No one? SNL? Sounded like anyone.

• 1:25:44Speaker 05

Question number two. Mario first appeared in what other game?

• 1:25:50Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 1:25:51Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:25:52Speaker 01

I am not gonna get this.

• 1:25:53Speaker 05

You might. So I picked it.

• 1:25:56Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:25:56Speaker 05

  Metal Gear Solid.

• 1:25:58Speaker 01

  Got it.

• 1:25:59Speaker 05

Snake and his famous companion Mario.

• 1:26:03David Imel?

  Elden Ring.

• 1:26:04Speaker 04

I'm just trying to think of other games that aren't named after their main character.

• 1:26:08Speaker 01

  Skyrim.

• 1:26:10Andrew Manganelli?

He's definitely been in Skyrim, but some mod. There's a mod where Mario is in Skyrim.

• 1:26:15David Imel?

  Metroid Prime.

• 1:26:17Speaker 04

  Fortnite. Alright. Fortnite.

• 1:26:19David Imel?

  Fortnite.

• 1:26:20Speaker 04

  What do we got?

• 1:26:20David Imel?

  And Mario Brownlee.

• 1:26:23Speaker 05

Marquez, you can do better than that. What did you say?

• 1:26:26Speaker 01

I didn't know that was game. I said Solitaire. I don't know. Games? Come on, guys.

• 1:26:32Speaker 05

  Andrew?

• 1:26:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Donkey Kong.

• 1:26:34Speaker 05

  David?

• 1:26:34David Imel?

  Donkey.

• 1:26:35Speaker 05

  Correct.

• 1:26:36David Imel?

  Kong.

• 1:26:36Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 1:26:37David Imel?

  Country.

• 1:26:37Andrew Manganelli?

So, do you remember the old Donkey Kong game where like Donkey Kong's standing at the top throwing barrels down the...

• 1:26:43David Imel?

  The chutes and ladders.

• 1:26:44Speaker 01

Yeah, I thought Donkey Kong was derivative of Mario, actually.

• 1:26:47Andrew Manganelli?

Well, Mario's the guy jumping in the game.

• 1:26:49David Imel?

You play as Mario in Donkey Kong to rescue Princess Peach. Is it? Wait, is it Peach or is it?

• 1:26:57Andrew Manganelli?

  It's called Donkey Kong.

• 1:26:58Speaker 01

  Have to do with it.

• 1:26:58David Imel?

  Maybe that's not Peach.

• 1:26:59Speaker 04

  It's not Peach.

• 1:27:00Speaker 05

Marquez, I thought you would get that because it's like the only other Nintendo game that's like mainly pop culture. I was like, if he just picks another... I never played it either, but if you just picked another one.

• 1:27:10David Imel?

You've never played the original Donkey Kong?

• 1:27:11Speaker 05

  I've never played it.

• 1:27:13David Imel?

  Uncultured swine.

• 1:27:17Speaker 01

And with that, we will end the podcast. Hey, but, like I said. Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2. If you haven't already watched Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on, check that out. Should be on the channel.

• 1:27:31Speaker 01

What else do you guys have to say? Anything else?

• 1:27:32Andrew Manganelli?

Mario looks crazy in Donkey Kong. It doesn't look anything like Mario. It just looks like a...

• 1:27:37David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:27:39Speaker 01

  Looks like Wario.

• 1:27:40David Imel?

You save Pauline in Donkey Kong. And Pauline is a character in Super Mario Odyssey, so they bring her back.

• 1:27:50Speaker 01

I also want to make it known today that earlier I named all seven Pokemon.

• 1:27:55David Imel?

You want to name them again?

• 1:27:56Speaker 04

All seven? There's a lot more than seven.

• 1:27:58Speaker 01

  I named all seven.

• 1:28:00Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think you got seven.

• 1:28:01Speaker 01

  I think I got six.

• 1:28:02David Imel?

  There's.

• 1:28:03Andrew Manganelli?

I think you got six with a really good hint.

• 1:28:07Speaker 04

I can name 26 right here.

• 1:28:08Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 1:28:09Speaker 04

  Yeah, all the unknowns.

• 1:28:12Speaker 04

  Take that one nerds.

• 1:28:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, there's Agumon.

• 1:28:14Speaker 04

  I can name 27.

• 1:28:15Speaker 01

  There's Mercury, Renamon, Enos.

• 1:28:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Neptune.

• 1:28:20Speaker 04

All right, let's wrap this, let's wrap this up.

• 1:28:22Speaker 01

Thanks for watching, thanks for listening, thanks for subscribing, thanks for liking, thanks for commenting, thanks for suggesting stuff for next week. Catch you guys later. Peace.

  Kirby Air Ride.

• 1:28:51Speaker 04

Wait, they announced a new Kirby Air Ride?

• 1:28:53Speaker 01

  It's called.

• 1:28:53Speaker 04

How did no one tell me?

• 1:28:55Speaker 01

Yeah, it's, it's literally called Kirby Air Riders.

• 1:28:59Speaker 04

  Oh my god.

• 1:29:01Speaker 07
