• 2:07Corinne Vien?

  Hi.

• 2:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Hello.

• 2:09Corinne Vien?

This is Two Girls, One Ghost.

• 2:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Two Girls, One Ghost. And we are your ghostesses. That is Corinne.

• 2:15Corinne Vien?

  Hello.

• 2:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I am Sabrina, and we are bloodbathed in red.

• 2:19Corinne Vien?

  Appropriate for this episode.

• 2:21Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yes. And before we talk about, or you talk about what you've covered and what you researched, I have a book recommendation. And I texted you, Ash, and Elena, and no one responded. It was cricket, so I'm mad, but...

• 2:33Corinne Vien?

Sorry. I read it. I always read.

• 2:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Instead, I'm gonna tell all of my podcast friends who will respond.

• 2:40Corinne Vien?

You messaged the three worst texters and then expected a response. Sorry.

• 2:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, that's true. I'm not mad. I'm over it. Okay. But, so, the other day, I walked over to the really small, like, little bookstore that's local to Marblehead, Saltwater Bookstore. You know when you walk into a bookstore, you're like overwhelmed by how many books there are and the fact that you're never gonna be able to read all of the books?

• 3:04Corinne Vien?

Yes. It doesn't stop me from buying a bunch, to be like, well, there's nothing better than an unread library in your own home, right?

• 3:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Exactly. A Beauty and the Beast library, if you will. But I usually buy hardcover books. For some reason, I was drawn to this paperback. It's the only paperback on, like, the one shelf that I went to. Like, all I saw was the side. What's it got? The body and her? Her Body and Other Parties. It's by Carmen Maria Machado. And it is so good. It's a bunch of short stories, but the very first one was, and I texted this to you guys, it's like if the lady with the green ribbon, the girl with the green ribbon, got married and had kids, and her story, like, her telling her story. And she like has lived through every urban legend and scary story told in the dark.

• 3:50Corinne Vien?

So is this a horror book?

• 3:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, it's about women because the second story is called Inventory and it's basically a woman talking about every sexual encounter she's had like with men and women. But in the context of living through the end of the world.

• 4:08Corinne Vien?

  Oh, interesting.

• 4:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 4:10Corinne Vien?

  How long are the stories?

• 4:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Um, each one differs, but the first one was like only thirty-three pages.

• 4:15Corinne Vien?

Okay, so there's a lot of stories in here.

• 4:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, an inventory of lovers written as the world falls apart.

• 4:20Corinne Vien?

Have you read, was it, is it called Three Women or something like that?

• 4:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That's why I grabbed this because I am obsessed with Three Women.

• 4:28Corinne Vien?

Okay, that's why I was gonna ask because this sounds a similar-ish to Three Women. Unpopular opinion.

• 4:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You didn't like it?

• 4:35Corinne Vien?

  No.

• 4:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 4:36Corinne Vien?

  I didn't finish it either.

• 4:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Now I'm mad at you again.

• 4:39Corinne Vien?

Of the way through and I was like, I can't do this.

• 4:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What?

• 4:41Corinne Vien?

So I'm not sure I would like this book.

• 4:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's very different. It's very, very different.

• 4:45Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 4:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like so different. I thought from reading the description, it reminded me of Three Women, but it's so different. Three Women is like real stories. This is very fictionalized and it plays on the horror genre.

• 4:56Corinne Vien?

Yeah, if it plays on horror, then maybe I'll like it. It's really specific, like a nonfiction book for me has to be so far away from my life or people that I know and what they're experiencing.

• 5:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Hmm.

• 5:08Corinne Vien?

Because I, I need the escape.

• 5:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Did you like My Dark Vanessa?

• 5:11Corinne Vien?

I actually really did like My Dark Vanessa.

• 5:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Interesting. Because that feels, while it's fiction, feels very real.

• 5:19Corinne Vien?

Yes, but I also luckily personally don't know anyone who was groomed by a middle-aged man in school.

• 5:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You are fortunate to not know anyone who was groomed.

• 5:28Corinne Vien?

  Yes, I am.

• 5:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yes. But anyway, this author also has one called In the Dream House. I mean, all of her books are incredible and she plays on like the horror genre in like a cool feminine LGBTQ way.

• 5:44Corinne Vien?

  Hmm.

• 5:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 5:45Corinne Vien?

Okay. Well, I'll give it a try because if it's short stories, I feel like.

• 5:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'll lend it to you.

• 5:49Corinne Vien?

  There's a little something.

• 5:49Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'll stamp it.

• 5:50Corinne Vien?

  Stamp it.

• 5:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So that it says.

• 5:52Corinne Vien?

  Sabrina got us stamps.

• 5:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yes. The library of.

• 5:56Corinne Vien?

  The library of.

• 5:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Mine's spooky. Anyway, that's what I wanted to tell you. Also, I wanted to tell you, I ate Taco Bell for breakfast this morning and I'm very happy about it. Uh, it was a two-day-old bean and cheese burrito that's been sitting in my fridge and I smothered it in mild sauce and I devoured that baby cold.

• 6:14Corinne Vien?

Is it okay to eat two day old?

• 6:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 6:17Corinne Vien?

  Taco Bell?

• 6:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'm still kicking.

• 6:19Corinne Vien?

If you wonder why Sabrina sometimes pooped her pants.

• 6:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Hey, I actually pooped before today.

• 6:27Corinne Vien?

  Before today?

• 6:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Before I ate.

• 6:29Corinne Vien?

You've had, you've had a poop prior to today?

• 6:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I've had one singular poop.

• 6:32Corinne Vien?

  One singular poop?

• 6:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

In my entire life, which is not far off, but that's not what we're here to talk about. Uh, I hope you all eat Taco Bell. We are not sponsors and oh my God, that would be so amazing.

• 6:42Corinne Vien?

That would be. Back when I wasn't gluten free, which I should have been, but I didn't know.

• 6:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Uh huh.

• 6:48Corinne Vien?

Chicken chilupas, I take that down. I think I just like sour cream. I think that's what I'm deducing because everywhere I go, if there's sour cream, I like the dish.

• 6:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Have you tried my bean dip?

• 6:58Corinne Vien?

  I don't think so.

• 6:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You're missing out. I want to make it for you.

• 7:00Corinne Vien?

Okay. Similar to, was it last episode where we were talking about like naming bars? It was like the new inn or whatever. I feel like my bean dip would be if you ever wanted to like, package up your bean dip, calling it my bean dip is actually kind of smart.

• 7:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Alright.

• 7:15Corinne Vien?

Anyone else want to try my bean dip? Come on over to the studio next week. I'll make it for you.

• 7:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You gotta pay five bucks.

• 7:22Corinne Vien?

Only five bucks? Oh my gosh, I'll, I'll post the recipe on Patreon. There we go. Anyway, thanks for letting me talk because I hadn't talked to anyone in a day, so.

• 7:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Since yesterday when we were talking.

• 7:37Corinne Vien?

Yeah, I feel like I also didn't talk to anyone else. I talked to a child. I was going to talk about the moon landing being faked. I have not. I started to research it and then I was like, man, this conspiracy is deep and it is just, you know, filled with photos, fake or not.

• 7:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

If you're gonna do it, you gotta do it.

• 8:00Corinne Vien?

If I'm going to do it, I need to come at it like full fledged. The moon landing was faked, whether I believe it or not, and provide a lot of evidence. And I just felt like I was too rushed to have a quality moon conspiracist hat on me.

• 8:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's not 2018 anymore. We're not doing half ass, not half ass, but we're not doing shorter episodes.

• 8:21Corinne Vien?

Before. This is, we do the full length episodes so that we can act. Actually do as much research as we feel is appropriate for.

• 8:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I started reading a 189 page book this morning for my episode that we're recording tomorrow.

• 8:36Corinne Vien?

Yeah, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And so I decided to go a different route. And choose a story that's kind of a warning of what could happen when you Google yourself. It's dark, it's twisted, and sometimes it ends in death. I know you've Googled yourself. I totally have too.

• 8:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

For sure. The first thing that when you type in my name, it like autofills divorced? Question mark?

• 9:03Corinne Vien?

Wait, should we do it right now?

• 9:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. Well, as you said that we shouldn't do this anymore, but yeah.

• 9:08Corinne Vien?

Oh, Sabrina. I don't want to read these out loud.

• 9:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Read them aloud.

• 9:11Corinne Vien?

Okay, says Sabrina De Anaroga address, Sabrina De Anaroga Nick, Sabrina De Anaroga wedding. Okay, I think people are less interested in my life, so I'll see what comes up for me. Oh, interesting. People did Google husband. They don't even know his name.

• 9:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You just husband.

• 9:30Corinne Vien?

Corinian podcast, Corinian husband, Corinian age, withered Brian.

• 9:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Brian with a Y. I've seen a lot of people spelling it wrong. Brian with a Y.

• 9:41Corinne Vien?

Yeah, but I feel like usually when you Google yourself, it's just like a lot of Instagram photos that you once archived and are upset. Still coming up or, you know, articles to like an old soccer game stats from high school, random stuff like that. Things that don't really matter and that maybe you care about, but probably no one else will see. However, that is not what happened to one girl who decided to Google herself one day. Enora Petrova was born in Portland, Oregon, and from a young age, she lived for the ice. She was a super big figure skater. And was just like so into that world with really high hopes. However, she wasn't the best, though she worked really hard at figure skating.

• 10:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Can I ask a question just to clarify? Enora Petrova, is this a real person and is she related to Maria Petrova, who is a Olympic figure skater from Russia?

• 10:31Corinne Vien?

I have no idea if they're related and it's up to the listeners to decide whether she's real or not.

• 10:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, okay.

• 10:38Corinne Vien?

So she lived in Oregon, skating was a passion. It was her identity and she was very talented. She was very ambitious, but she at the time hadn't really won any big titles. So she was just kind of like on her local skating team with the dreams of one day making it big. Right? So Enora, whose nickname was Annie, she had a big crucial competition coming up. It was the Crystal Classic competition and she was up late at night. She could not sleep before the competition. Her mind was reeling. She was like, oh my gosh, I really want to win this. This is so important. This is such a big thing. I haven't won any titles before, just, you know, like the nerves of a big competition happening the next day.

• 11:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This reminds me so much of my childhood because my sister was a huge figure skater. Like we would go to Canada every summer so that she could train with other like skaters who went on to go to the Olympics.

• 11:25Corinne Vien?

  Which is so wild.

• 11:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So I just feel.

• 11:28Corinne Vien?

  What made Lexi stop?

• 11:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Um, I mean, she skated through high school, but then I think she just stopped becoming as competitive and then went to college.

• 11:37Corinne Vien?

Yeah, I do remember there was someone in my high school, she was a few years older than me and she dropped out to full time train. To be like a hopeful Olympic.

• 11:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I feel like that's one of the tough things is if you're trying to live a normal life as well, it is hard to balance.

• 11:53Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 11:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, like I feel like a lot of them do go to like full time training.

• 11:58Corinne Vien?

Right. Yeah. Even with just like skiing and snowboarding, I had friends that would go to like boarding school. Luckily we were in Vermont, so it's like they're going to school 30 minutes away. They still got to hang out with their friends in spare days, but like, yeah, you do have to dedicate a ton of time. And basically your whole academic world is so different, your social world's so different.

• 12:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 12:17Corinne Vien?

So this wasn't Annie's world yet, but it would become her world soon. But she was nervous before the Crystal Classic. She was up late at night. She was surfing the web, just clicking around, could not focus on anything. And then for the first time maybe ever, she decided to Google her name.

• 12:35Corinne Vien?

And what came up with just like some random articles as you would expect about just like different skating events that had happened, like where she had placed, where she ranked, stuff like that. But then there was another link that she hadn't seen before. It was a Wikipedia page titled Anora Petrova. And so she's thinking, I think her name, you know, like she's like, is this me? Or is this someone else? You know, probably someone else with the same name. So she clicks on it. And the article, to her surprise, is actually about her. It has where she lives, so Portland, Oregon, it had the name of her parents, and then it had just like some random stats about her skating history. But then there was something else that stood out on the page. It stated that the winner of this

• 13:20Corinne Vien?

year's Crystal Classic was Anora Petrova. But this competition had not happened yet. It was the next day.

• 13:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So it's interesting because Wikipedia, you could add information. I think you can create a page. Like Wikipedia is outsourced from the community. It is then fact checked.

• 13:38Corinne Vien?

Yeah, I think like when you make a change, you have to submit it, right?

• 13:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 13:40Corinne Vien?

And then it goes through whatever process.

• 13:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yes. So like presumably someone could have made this about her.

• 13:46Corinne Vien?

Totally. And I think that that is what she thought. So she thought at first, like, maybe it was someone on her skating team, or like a coach, someone in that league, or her dad. She was suspicious that maybe it was her dad, like someone who made the page just hoping that like if she one day found it, it would serve as motivation for her.

• 14:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Interesting.

• 14:07Corinne Vien?

But it was also like really odd. So she was like, this is super weird.

• 14:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I also think stalker.

• 14:11Corinne Vien?

Right. She's also in high school at this point. Like she's young.

• 14:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So I still think stalker.

• 14:15Corinne Vien?

So it totally could be stalker.

• 14:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Especially the figure skating community. I feel like it is pretty small. I could imagine, because I imagine dark things, there's a predator type person who is obsessive over the skating community.

• 14:29Corinne Vien?

Yeah, no, definitely. It's possible. I don't think she thought that at the time, or at least she hadn't stated that.

• 14:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  She's not, she's innocent.

• 14:37Corinne Vien?

She's innocent. So she was, she was just like curious, like who was trying to help encourage me? Who made this? Because other than it stating that she was about to win the competition that was happening the next day, everything else was just like basic fact, right? Like a bare bones Wikipedia page. So the very next day, she asks, Annie asks her dad if he made the Wikipedia page. And he's like, no, I had nothing to do with that. I don't know what you're talking about. I did not do that. But then later that day, when she goes to the competition, the Crystal Classic, she performs super well and she wins. So the Wikipedia page essentially predicted, or at least encouraged her, gave her the motivation and the belief in herself that she could win. And so she won the Crystal Classic.

• 15:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right. So now we're like, is this a coincidence?

• 15:20Corinne Vien?

Yes. Is this a coincidence? Or is this some weird thing happening on Wikipedia where it's like predicting what would come next? So Annie's super excited. Her family is incredibly excited that she won. And this really lit a fire under her. So basically, ever since her win at the Crystal Classic, she was just skating her heart out and doing super well. To the point where she became so dedicated to the sport that her parents were like, we do need to take this really seriously. And Annie's wanting like this sport to be her whole life. So they hired a skating coach, classic name, Sergey. Sergey, the skating coach, who was quite expensive. It's expensive to have a kid in a competitive sport.

• 16:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's expensive to have a kid.

• 16:03Corinne Vien?

It's expensive to have a kid.

• 16:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Generally, but yes.

• 16:05Corinne Vien?

  It's expensive to have yourself.

• 16:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

100%. You can't eat Taco Bell every night.

• 16:10Corinne Vien?

  No.

• 16:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

As much as you want to.

• 16:13Corinne Vien?

So each night before any competition, Annie started having a habit of checking her Wikipedia page. And every single time, it would state on her Wikipedia page where she ranked on a competition that was the next day.

• 16:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So not even just like first place every time it was accurate, like if it was third place?

• 16:32Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it was like wherever she had placed in the competition.

• 16:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  The day before.

• 16:35Corinne Vien?

The day before, which was really weird. And she still had no idea what was going on or who was doing this. But like, because it was the day before, I think she could have probably assumed it was again, someone within her circle. And it was just like weird coincidences, maybe well researched skaters. I don't know.

• 16:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause I also don't know where this is going. I imagine it's gonna take a turn. But I'm like, is this a glitch? A weird like slip in time?

• 17:00Corinne Vien?

  Right. Yeah.

• 17:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause time's happening all at once.

• 17:02Corinne Vien?

But it's strange that it would happen so many times in a row. That like this Wikipedia page on her computer is a full one day.

• 17:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Ahead.

• 17:10Corinne Vien?

  Ahead.

• 17:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I just got the chills.

• 17:11Corinne Vien?

Yeah. So very strange, but this was her like ritual, her pre-competition ritual.

• 17:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I would do the same. I would, especially after like a second time that this happens, I'd be like, well, now I need to see this through.

• 17:23Corinne Vien?

I also feel like it would be discouraging. Would it be discouraging or would it be motivating if you saw that you didn't win?

• 17:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But it would be like a challenge.

• 17:30Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 17:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Be like, I'll show you.

• 17:33Corinne Vien?

Or are you too in your head where you're like, you make one mistake and you're like, well, of course that's because I'm coming in third today.

• 17:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 17:39Corinne Vien?

I don't know. But at 15 years old, Annie won the regionals and shortly after that, her coach Sergey convinced her mom and dad that Annie was the real deal. She was showing a ton of promise. She'd improved so much in the past year or so. That if she kept on this path, like she truly did have a chance of going to the Olympics, of being a professional skater in some capacity.

• 17:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 17:59Corinne Vien?

So Annie really wanted that. And that is what she vocalized to her parents. She was more encouraged than ever. And whoever was running this page that she didn't really talk about, she kept it to herself. It was this amazing source of motivation for her. So Annie and her family made the very difficult decision to pull her from school and have her focus full-time on ice skating. Every day Annie would train for hours with her coach. But unfortunately, despite all the training, her coach was like, okay, well, you know, I think you have a ton of promise. I think you're super talented, but you're not progressing at the speed in what you need to in order to compete.

• 18:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

A little bit of tough love.

• 18:38Corinne Vien?

Yeah, that you need to to reach this. So it was almost like she plateaued a little bit in her abilities. So there was a lot of pressure on her to win this championship that was coming up. So she was really, really crushed by this, basically being told, you know, like, you're probably not good enough. Like, it's really hard to hear.

• 18:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, that's very discouraging.

• 18:57Corinne Vien?

Yeah, especially after like dropping out of school and dedicating all your life to this one sport.

• 19:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No matter what age you are, like.

• 19:04Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 19:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Finding yourself at the conclusion of some type of endeavor that you've tried to pursue. Like, there's a lot of grief.

• 19:13Corinne Vien?

Right. I also think it's hard when it's a sport because I feel like there's so many different things that like, maybe you love something, it's your passion, and it isn't right for you in that moment. But then you can come back like in 20 years. Like, I think about like, you know, people who like singer or writing.

• 19:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But you can't do that with sports.

• 19:31Corinne Vien?

With sports is so age and like body specific.

• 19:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 19:36Corinne Vien?

That it is really hard to just take a pause.

• 19:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like, you can always go back to school and get a new degree or.

• 19:41Corinne Vien?

Or star in The Forty Year Old Virgin and suddenly become Steve Carell, you know?

• 19:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Exactly.

• 19:45Corinne Vien?

There's so many opportunities. The guy wrote The Squid Game, suddenly it's, you know, top grossing Netflix. There's so many opportunities for so many people. It doesn't matter your age or like when you come into this hobby or passion. But with sports.

• 19:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You are limited.

• 19:58Corinne Vien?

If you want to be an Olympic athlete.

• 20:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What's like the, I don't know why I'm stroking the microphone. It just feels nice, though. I'm trying to think like what the most elderly friendly sport is. Shuffleboard?

• 20:11Corinne Vien?

Yeah, or like curling. I don't know though, because curling is.

• 20:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 20:15Corinne Vien?

Rigorous on the shoulders and arms.

• 20:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I know people really love pickleball, but it's still like such an exertion. It's like a lot.

• 20:22Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 20:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like, I'm trying to think what's.

• 20:23Corinne Vien?

  Like archery?

• 20:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But even that, you need a lot of strength, like back and arm strength.

• 20:27Corinne Vien?

Should we Google it? Let's give a quick Google.

• 20:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 20:30Corinne Vien?

I'll do this. Oldest Olympic athlete. And then we'll see.

• 20:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What sport they do?

• 20:35Corinne Vien?

Oscar Swan of Sweden competed in shooting, so not archery, but shooting, that makes sense, in the nineteen twenty Antwerp Olympics at the age of seventy-two years old. He won the silver medal.

• 20:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What's the next oldest? Because that doesn't feel like a sport. You know what sport I really miss? Is badminton.

• 20:55Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 20:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I used to play it in my backyard as a kid.

• 20:58Corinne Vien?

  Our neighbors have one.

• 20:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 21:00Corinne Vien?

It says equestrian is generally considered the sport in the Olympics with the oldest athletes, with many of the competitors in their fifties, sixties, and even seventies.

• 21:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, okay.

• 21:08Corinne Vien?

Shooting and archery also have a history of older athletes competing at high levels.

• 21:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay. So there are options, but it's limited.

• 21:16Corinne Vien?

Yeah, ice skating, definitely more limited.

• 21:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 21:20Corinne Vien?

Okay, so basically it was like you need to win the championship or you need to be really highly ranked at the championship to be able to continue on the level that you need to, to be able

• 21:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 21:29Corinne Vien?

to one day be an Olympian here, or just like at the level of professional skater that you want to be.

• 21:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 21:36Corinne Vien?

So before the championship is sectionals. Annie has to play in sectionals to go on to compete in the championship. So sectionals came, it consumed her, the idea that she needed to win, the pressure she needed to win, and Annie would do something she would later deeply regret. She was not the one favored to win sectionals, it was actually her friend, one of her best friends on this, in the skating world, Bree, she was like the talk of winning sectionals. But with all this pressure internally and also from her coach, and probably just, I'm sure she was internalizing some of it with like, oh, my parents gave me so much, they paid for so much, they did all this and that, and I need to perform because they gave up a lot too. She was just overwhelmed with all this pressure. Bree was the favored one.

• 22:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This is like leading up to the whole like Tonya Harding story.

• 22:22Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 22:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Where it's like all this pressure.

• 22:25Corinne Vien?

  Like that.

• 22:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay, she didn't.

• 22:27Corinne Vien?

She wasn't trying to harm Bree.

• 22:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 22:29Corinne Vien?

But she was trying to hack the system. Because her Wikipedia page seemed to always predict the future. And so she decided to create an account and attempt to update that Wikipedia page that always had the stats on her to write that she was the winner of sectionals.

• 22:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm so excited. I'm getting my whole body MRI scan from Prenuvo in a couple of weeks.

• 22:52Corinne Vien?

• 24:33Corinne Vien?

She clicked the button to submit the information to the page, which goes through some sort of process. It's like, okay, you've submitted it. It will be like reviewed and whatever. So later on, she goes back to check the page to see if it has been updated and accepted.

• 24:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Is this the day before sectionals?

• 24:48Corinne Vien?

  I actually have no idea.

• 24:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 24:51Corinne Vien?

  I think maybe.

• 24:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That would make sense, given like all the other.

• 24:54Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 24:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Encounters were.

• 24:56Corinne Vien?

But whenever it was, she went back to the Wikipedia page to check. And the statement that she had submitted to the page was not accepted. It was not there, but another sentence was, it said, and I have a screenshot of it if you're watching on YouTube. And Nora Petrova is a selfish little bitch who's going to get what she deserves.

• 25:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 25:16Corinne Vien?

Chills, because the juxtaposition of that statement to just like Annie Petrova placed third in regionals.

• 25:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 25:23Corinne Vien?

Annie Petrova won the Crystal Classic on August eighteenth.

• 25:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So this is indicating whoever is actually responsible for creating this page is menacing.

• 25:35Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it's not just like some weird glitch or something like there is.

• 25:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or someone supporting her. Now it's someone who's like.

• 25:41Corinne Vien?

There's real energy behind this, seemingly bad energy. So she's like, what the hell? Who was running this page? Who seems to be my supporter and is now hating on me, bullying me, right? Like, it's so scary. So she breaks down, right? She's a, she's a teenager, early teens. She's super distraught, she's crying all night long. And the next day, when she shows up to the competition, she just looks terrible. Her eyes are puffy, they're really red and swollen, her mind's a mess. And I don't even know if she went on to skate or not. But I do know that when Bree was skating, she was watching Bree's routine, which is Bree's one of her friends. And Bree's also the one that was favored to win this competition.

• 26:24Corinne Vien?

One of the blades during Bree's performance snaps, the tip of the metal blade comes off. And it flies and it hits Annie right in the forehead and she falls down on the ground. And when she picks up her face, she's like gushing blood.

• 26:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Is this Final Destination?

• 26:39Corinne Vien?

It seems like it, doesn't it?

• 26:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Which, by the way, I loved the new Final Destination.

• 26:43Corinne Vien?

  Oh, I haven't watched it.

• 26:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It was a great.

• 26:46Corinne Vien?

  Creators and writers?

• 26:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I think different, but same concept. And it like is a continuation of the previous five that have been out.

• 26:53Corinne Vien?

Oh, interesting. All right, so she's like gushing blood, she's on the ground. You would assume everyone would be running over to her being like, oh, my God, are you okay? Are you okay? But instead, she had such anxious energy around not winning. And I think it like vocalized enough. The people started to become really suspicious that she actually was trying to sabotage Bree because earlier that day she was holding, she was like carrying her skates and Bree's skates. And so people were like, well, you had some time alone with Bree's skates. Did you try to do something? Like, it just so happened that she got hit. But like people were thinking-

• 27:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause yeah, she's there with like a metal saw.

• 27:28Corinne Vien?

Yeah, in the back, like cutting off-

• 27:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cutting off one tiny little blade of her friend's skate.

• 27:34Corinne Vien?

Yeah, so I don't know how many people believed this, but basically like there was enough talk and, and like chaos in that moment that all of this was happening.

• 27:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Also, she's a high schooler.

• 27:45Corinne Vien?

Mm-hmm. But she got disqualified. So she was not the winner of regionals. She could not go on-

• 27:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

With zero evidence that she had actually done anything?

• 27:54Corinne Vien?

  Apparently.

• 27:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 27:55Corinne Vien?

Couldn't go on to win the state championship. I'm sure if she hadn't skated her routine either yet, like, how could she if she was gushing blood out of her forehead?

• 28:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So, okay, the day after she finds this message, all of this bad luck is happening to her.

• 28:10Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it said, "Enora Petrova is a selfish little bitch who's going to get what she deserves." And then she got hit in the forehead with a skate and disqualified and could not go on to win the competitions that she needed to or participate in them.

• 28:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 28:25Corinne Vien?

So everyone believed that she had tampered with Bree's skates, that it was an attempt to sabotage her routine, that she would do anything to win. But Annie was like, "I literally would never do that. I would never do anything to hurt anyone else, especially one of my close friends, Bree." But that was it, like, that no one wanted to hear her side of the story. Her coach Sergey was like, "I have to drop you. Like, this is bad press for me in the local skating coaching community."

• 28:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's like the accidental, like, if Tonya Harding wasn't guilty.

• 28:54Corinne Vien?

If she didn't actually try to break someone's leg. So, yeah, he was like, "I don't need this bad press." And so she basically was like ostracized, dumped, blacklisted, whatever you want to say, from the skating world. And this was someone who had dropped out of school. Her parents put up all this money. Like, she didn't really have much of a life outside of skating. Skating was her entire life. So she was really struggling mentally, emotionally, like, so badly.

• 29:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Devastating.

• 29:20Corinne Vien?

Yeah, she said that she like couldn't even get like ice time to like try to go skate herself.

• 29:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  She was blacklisted from everything.

• 29:27Corinne Vien?

Basically, yeah. People were like really upset because they thought she was like fully trying to like injure and hurt another ice skater. So people thought she was a psychopath.

• 29:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What's that, Michelle Trachtenberg, which R I P movie where she's a figure skater and she learns to skate on the pond? The frozen pond?

• 29:45Corinne Vien?

  I don't know. I don't think I've seen it.

• 29:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I think it's a Disney movie. Let me see.

• 29:48Corinne Vien?

  Oh, Disney Ice, uh.

• 29:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Ice Princess.

• 29:52Corinne Vien?

  Ice Princess.

• 29:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Ice Princess. That was such a good one.

• 29:55Corinne Vien?

So even though she's not competing in anything anymore, Annie decides one day that she's gonna look at the Wikipedia page again. And when she checks it, she is startled because it's not just the facts about her previous stats. Like it is completely changed. It is vulgar slander. Like it is just so aggressive, such bullying statements. And each time she would check it, it would be updated and there would be something worse said about her.

• 30:21Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So stop checking it.

• 30:22Corinne Vien?

It's hard to, especially when you're in middle school. Do you remember when we had MySpace and there were those like anonymous?

• 30:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Well, Facebook had honesty box.

• 30:30Corinne Vien?

Or maybe I was thinking of honesty box.

• 30:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, that was bad.

• 30:33Corinne Vien?

  That was really bad.

• 30:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I would.

• 30:35Corinne Vien?

It was always your own best friend.

• 30:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Between checking honesty box and playing that game where you were like flying. Do you remember?

• 30:44Corinne Vien?

  Mm hmm.

• 30:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It was kind of like, I'm trying to think like what the comparison is now. There was also Farmville. I was playing Farmville and checking my honesty box. And then, yeah, there was this game where you had to like navigate around obstacles, but you're like flying.

• 30:58Corinne Vien?

Oh, I don't, I don't remember that. I don't think I played that. Also even just like MySpace top eight, and then when they let you do like top 12 and stuff.

• 31:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, yeah.

• 31:05Corinne Vien?

And you would shuffle people around and like rank your friends.

• 31:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 31:08Corinne Vien?

We lived in a brutal time of the internet. Not that it's any better now, but.

• 31:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Just don't have.

• 31:12Corinne Vien?

  A different type of brutal.

• 31:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Just don't have enough friends for top eight.

• 31:15Corinne Vien?

Just, yeah, just don't go online.

• 31:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Or, yeah, that too.

• 31:19Corinne Vien?

Okay, so in one of these Google searches, she keeps seeing these things come up. And she can't stop crying. And so she decides like, this is enough. I'm gonna file a complaint with Wikipedia. This needs to be taken down. This isn't truthful. This is a slander Wikipedia page. Like this is not what this website's supposed to be.

• 31:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 31:34Corinne Vien?

So she files a complaint with Wikipedia, doesn't get anywhere. Customer service is like, this link, like this page that you're talking about doesn't exist. We can't see it on our end.

• 31:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, that's what I was gonna ask, is if anyone else had seen the Wikipedia page?

• 31:51Corinne Vien?

  Not at this point, no.

• 31:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  That's wild.

• 31:54Corinne Vien?

So she, there's nothing that can happen.

• 31:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So something's fucking with her reality now, too.

• 31:59Corinne Vien?

Yeah, basically. And I think in the end, there was a lot of discussion about like, was she experiencing like psychosis or something?

• 32:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Can you tell me this is not a real story? Because I feel so sad for Enora.

• 32:11Corinne Vien?

  So one Friday night,

• 32:14Corinne Vien?

Annie was home alone and she went and she looked at the page, very hopeful that like something had happened, some whoever created it, digging it down or Wikipedia, finally figured it out and they took it down, but it was there. And there was a new sentence and it said, "Enora Petrova is a pathetic orphan whose real parents died in a terrible accident." And Annie was home alone, her parents were out. So she started freaking out. She's calling her parents over and over and over again. She called them over a hundred times. They never answered, but the call was connecting to something, but it was not her parents. She just heard laughter on the other end of the line every single time. So she kept hanging up and calling again.

• 32:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You won't tell me, but I'm just gonna in my head be like, this is not real because I need to to survive the rest of this story. I need that narrative.

• 33:06Corinne Vien?

I know. So yeah, she keeps trying her parents and then her parents never came home. They got in a really horrible accident that night. They had passed away. And then when the police had concluded their investigation and gave Enora Annie back her parents' phones, she checked the phones and all of those calls that she made that night never went through. So her, something was happening with her phone where like somehow was being.

• 33:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Someone or something was interfering.

• 33:33Corinne Vien?

  Yeah, nothing went through.

• 33:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This does feel like demonic energy, something like really, really evil.

• 33:40Corinne Vien?

Latched on to her desperation, her like desire to do anything to be successful at skating, taking her passion. It's like people will make the classic like music industry making a deal with a devil.

• 33:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right, but usually it's a. Dual agreement, like I agree to give you my soul for my success.

• 33:59Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 33:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

She didn't give any promise for her soul. She just happened upon this page. And the second she tried to update it, everything turned.

• 34:09Corinne Vien?

Right. Though I do wonder if maybe she did and she just doesn't know she did. Like, was there some other situation?

• 34:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Oh, like where she pleaded or?

• 34:17Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 34:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like the amount of times that I, as a kid, would say, "Dear God, like, please let me get into the musical. I promise I'll go to church more."

• 34:25Corinne Vien?

Yeah, yeah, basically. That's so innocent.

• 34:30Corinne Vien?

"I'll go to church if I can just sing on stage." So, yeah, now Annie's parents have died. She's a teenager. She doesn't really have many friends, not many connections anymore. She's just like falling into this deep, deep depression. She was sent into a facility, basically, because she had a nervous breakdown, um, which is totally understandable. And then she basically was just isolated and then also isolated herself even more. So Bree was trying to reach out to her a bit.

• 34:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, yeah, I mean, her parents are now tragically deceased. She has been ostracized from her community.

• 35:06Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 35:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Figure skating. Yeah, like, what does she have? That's so sad.

• 35:10Corinne Vien?

It's really, really sad. So, yeah, she was receiving a lot of care for her mental health and her well-being. And when she turned eighteen, she decided she was gonna start fresh and try to skate again, um, but in a way that she felt she could. So she traveled to Prague and booked herself into a hotel, and she was gonna audition for the Ice Circus in Prague, which, like ironically, she said her and Bree used to like joke about that type of, not necessarily like the Ice Circus in Prague, but like that sort of career in skating. Like, they, they hoped that they wouldn't have to do that. Like, they wanted to just be like competitive Olympians. So it was kind of like ironic that it was something that she used to kind of make fun of.

• 35:54Corinne Vien?

And now she was like, "Well, maybe this is my path. I'll start fresh in a brand-new country. I'll be so far away from where all this pain happened to me. And I'll get to do the thing that I liked doing, which is skating, without anyone knowing any of my history."

• 36:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, start fresh.

• 36:09Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 36:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I get it.

• 36:10Corinne Vien?

So, out of nerves and out of habit, Annie checked her Wikipedia page. Once more, the day before the audition. And it did not have confirmation of her getting the job, but instead she found this statement, which again, I have a screenshot. Anora Annie Petrova, born May 5th, 1991, died October 24th, 2010, was an American Junior Regionals Figure Skater winner, who died a friendless orphan because she was a greedy little pig.

• 36:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, and it doesn't say how she died, so now it is Final Destination, kind of like the whole next day.

• 36:48Corinne Vien?

Yeah, she's reading this on October 23rd.

• 36:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So the whole next day, she's like.

• 36:53Corinne Vien?

Yeah. So she's freaking out because, yeah, it's basically saying that she's gonna die the next day. So she's sobbing, she's terrified, she's completely panicked, she's in this hotel, like she's in a country that she doesn't know. So she kind of desperately, and also like no one knew about what was happening to her.

• 37:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 37:10Corinne Vien?

Like her dad originally knew about the Wikipedia page, I'm sure her mom did too, but like I'm sure she didn't bring up, as you do in middle school, especially like at that time, like I was bullied so bad and I, my parents did not know most of what was happening on social media and online.

• 37:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 37:26Corinne Vien?

We hid that because it was like embarrassing and panicked. Yeah, you're panicked and you feel like you're doing something wrong.

• 37:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh.

• 37:32Corinne Vien?

  So.

• 37:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And her parents are now, yeah, she has no one.

• 37:36Corinne Vien?

She has no one, but she reaches out to Bree, who had spent a lot of time trying to reach out to her after everything had happened, and she is writing this email to Bree explaining all of this. She's talking about like what happened and how she didn't mean to hurt Bree and like she didn't want any of this to happen and all about the Wikipedia page. She's taking a screenshot of the Wikipedia page as proof to send to Bree that like it does exist, that she does see it. And she's typing out this big, long message that she's so, so scared. It's almost midnight, she keeps refreshing the Wikipedia page because she doesn't know what else to do. When midnight comes, it's technically the date of the day she's supposed to die and she's, she's hoping for like any change in the page, any more clues. She's just kind of hopeless. So she's locked in this room.

• 38:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Too, like seven days and it just like, you try to get someone to help you or like to outrun the clock.

• 38:25Corinne Vien?

Right. And it's like, no matter what you do and where you go, somehow it finds a way of.

• 38:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Plus, it's also like a nameless, faceless, unknown entity.

• 38:37Corinne Vien?

Is it an entity? Is that a person? She has no idea.

• 38:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You have no idea.

• 38:40Corinne Vien?

So now all she can do is wait. Bree never received the email. Police found it, typed with a screenshot with Anora Petrova dead, slumped over her computer.

• 38:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What? We don't know?

• 38:55Corinne Vien?

No, but there is a screenshot. If you're watching, there's a screenshot of the Wikipedia page. The Wikipedia page was updated once more compared to what Anora had typed, what it was saying in her email to Bree. Before, apparently it disappeared altogether from the internet. So whether the police had it taken down during the investigation or like whoever was controlling it, got rid of it. I'm not sure, but there is a screenshot of the Wikipedia page. And I'm not sure if this was like what Annie had taken to send to Bree. Or if this was like from the police investigation after, because it does include a photo, which appears to, it's like an updated photo of Annie. And it appears to be her, like the day that she died, taken from her computer webcam.

• 39:39Corinne Vien?

It doesn't seem like she knows that it was taken. Like her computer was hacked and she's dirty, she's disheveled, hollowed eyed, like just basically just like a shell of a person. And the final message on the page was strange because in the further information section, there was this proposal. It said, "So tell me, what do you desire most?" "Oh, you're thinking about it. And the answer is yes. Together, we could accomplish great things. I could help you so much. I could take you places that you've never even dreamed of. But first, you're gonna have to do something for me." So that's why I'm curious if she-

• 40:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So she had clicked on that or done something?

• 40:22Corinne Vien?

If there was, if that sort of proposal existed somewhere else.

• 40:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's the devil, it's the ring, it is, I have chills.

• 40:30Corinne Vien?

Right. And it's like who the recipient was of that message? Who was finding her Wikipedia page and seeing it and making the next deal?

• 40:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Who's the next victim?

• 40:40Corinne Vien?

We have no idea. Anora Petrova's story was submitted online as a creepypasta by the user OnePageWonder. You guys won't be surprised. I'll put creepypasta in the title so that no one is horrified by all of this. But while it is an urban legend and an amazing creepypasta, it does make you think twice about it. Basically, it's like serving beyond just being a horror story about like the dangers of the internet, right?

• 41:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And the dangers of wanting something too bad.

• 41:10Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 41:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'm just kidding.

• 41:11Corinne Vien?

No, but like, yes, how like obsession can make you spiral. It can become addiction. It can be

• 41:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But Anora didn't do anything wrong. And I think that's the thing. It's like she, she put in all of the work and all of the dedication to her dream. And sometimes it just doesn't pay off. Sometimes it doesn't work out. Maybe that's a lesson we can learn from that, but Anora herself didn't do anything wrong. Whoever this evil entity is, is the bad guy.

• 41:42Corinne Vien?

  I agree.

• 41:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  And I stand on that.

• 41:44Corinne Vien?

  I, I back you up.

• 41:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I stand on business.

• 41:46Corinne Vien?

  So you stand on business?

• 41:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 41:48Corinne Vien?

  Yes, queen.

• 41:52Corinne Vien?

But no, it is a good lesson, though, in that it's not even really a lesson. It's just kind of like, yeah, when something is all consuming, when you put so much into something, it can either empower you or it could destroy you.

• 42:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What's gonna happen to us with this podcast? Is it gonna destroy us?

• 42:08Corinne Vien?

I think we're middle roading it.

• 42:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I think.

• 42:10Corinne Vien?

  So I think we're

• 42:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  That's true.

• 42:12Corinne Vien?

  We're fine.

• 42:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  We're cruisin'. Smooth sailing.

• 42:15Corinne Vien?

We're smooth sailing. We're not quitting the rest of our lives to sit in these chairs, so I think we're okay.

• 42:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That's true. Um, wow, okay. That's a very scary story.

• 42:24Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it was listed, so I was looking at a bunch of creepypastas because you had covered the Slenderman one time and it was so good. And I was like, oh, I wonder what other ones are like that. And there are so many that are a little bit shorter and kind of like the classic, like, oh, like the chain mail. We'll have to do like a chain mail special one.

• 42:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or like just a creepypasta Reddit themed episode. Maybe we do that in October because I feel like that's a good one.

• 42:48Corinne Vien?

  That is a good one.

• 42:49Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or September, leading up to October.

• 42:51Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 42:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Get everyone juiced up and excited.

• 42:54Corinne Vien?

But this one was on the list of like, every time I clicked a list of like, top fifty or top ten or whatever. It was the Anora Petrova story was like, one of the, back when it was originally posted, one of the like, all-consuming, horrifying, nightmare-inducing.

• 43:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I mean, it's because, the internet nowadays is like, so massive. Like, for things to go viral to the extent that Dear David and

• 43:17Corinne Vien?

Yeah, where the fuck is that movie?

• 43:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I think it came out and it was really bad.

• 43:20Corinne Vien?

Oh, shoot, sorry. Sorry to Adam.

• 43:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 43:24Corinne Vien?

  You had an amazing idea.

• 43:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, and he became successful, like, you know? His life's going well. But no, it's like, I feel like we're due. We're due for another one of these.

• 43:34Corinne Vien?

Yeah. Oh, I so wish that I, it will stick with me forever, that one Reddit thread. It wasn't a

• 43:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You drop about this all the time.

• 43:42Corinne Vien?

I do. It was a four-part series about a family who moves into this like, old farmhouse. And they have to survive each season, comes with like, this crazy monster. There's like, a light in the pond that draws them out and they have to like, try to not be drowned. Or like, yeah.

• 43:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Each month is like, something different.

• 44:00Corinne Vien?

  Totally.

• 44:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

There's a lot of book references in this episode. We'll put, we'll link them in the, um, episode description.

• 44:05Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 44:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 44:06Corinne Vien?

I thought so many times, like, oh, I should cover that one. But when I read it, it took me two hours just at my reading speed.

• 44:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know.

• 44:12Corinne Vien?

To read through the whole thing, so I can never do it as an episode.

• 44:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

There's one that I have scheduled for, I think it's for October, but maybe we'll move things around with this new idea. About Ted the Caver.

• 44:24Corinne Vien?

  That was also on

• 44:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And it's so intriguing, but similarly, like, there are YouTube videos of people who read the whole story. And it's two and a half hours. So I'm like, how do I tell this succinctly without missing any details?

• 44:39Corinne Vien?

Right. Because the details are so good.

• 44:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know.

• 44:43Corinne Vien?

But then you don't want to just blatantly just read it straight.

• 44:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right, but then also I wish we could again.

• 44:48Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 44:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Anyway, so many things. If we were to sacrifice and give up the rest of our lives, I would start a new segment of our podcast where we did narration and we just read verbatim, read it spooky stories and added a soundscape.

• 45:04Corinne Vien?

  Like our Rick episode.

• 45:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Like our Rick episode.

• 45:07Corinne Vien?

  Wouldn't that be great?

• 45:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It'd be fun, but we don't want to become Anora.

• 45:11Corinne Vien?

No, we don't. If we have the resources, maybe one day we can add that as an extra.

• 45:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, sounds good. One day. All the promises we make ourselves.

• 45:20Corinne Vien?

I know, but we at least we're making the promises to ourselves and not some like mystery being like in Anora's story, which thank God is just a creepypasta. But we say thank God it's just a creepypasta and yet there are so many examples of like things within this of like people making bad deals, people.

• 45:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

People in real world, in real life, make deals with the devil all the time.

• 45:40Corinne Vien?

  Exactly.

• 45:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Not sure the devil is always showing up to make those deals because he's like, this is not worth my time.

• 45:46Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 45:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But yeah, people do that.

• 45:49Corinne Vien?

If you made a deal with the devil, what would it, like what would you have to get out of it?

• 45:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

First thought, a healthy, long-term relationship and family. That's unlike the family of origin that I grew up in. That's how badly I want it and how badly I don't believe I can, I can get it. That I feel like I would need to make a deal with the devil to make that happen.

• 46:10Corinne Vien?

It's pretty now, it's pretty so sad. But I'm also in my mind, sorry, I know this is like super depressing, but I just like totally fanfic. Put you in a book where like you fall in love and have that family with the devil.

• 46:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I would do that. I would, I would.

• 46:27Corinne Vien?

  We don't know him.

• 46:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't know him. Maybe he's done a lot of work on himself.

• 46:31Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 46:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm working on this in therapy. I'm not that depressed. I do want, I do believe that it is attainable. I am working through previous belief systems.

• 46:42Corinne Vien?

  Yes.

• 46:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And trying to rewire my brain.

• 46:45Corinne Vien?

And also here's the thing, building a family around you also is not something that is age specific.

• 46:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, I agree. I just noticed your coffee stain.

• 46:54Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 46:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Cute.

• 46:55Corinne Vien?

  Thanks. Triple dribble on Matt.

• 46:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Triple dribble.

• 47:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, well, another depressing scary thing is a curse from Mexico.

• 48:06Corinne Vien?

  Okay, well, we're fucked.

• 48:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Because I didn't know where the story was going and I briefly looked it up and I saw like the omen aspect of it. So I was like, what's kind of equivalent to that? Curse.

• 48:19Corinne Vien?

  A curse.

• 48:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And this one has everything we could ever ask for. Well, we don't want this, but like in terms of a story, it has all the juicy stuff. Okay. This is from our listener Melissa and it's called Mexico Scary Stories and Encounters. Hello, my name is Melissa. I'm a longtime listener and I'm excited to be sharing these weird scary stories that took place in Mexico. These are two different stories that both took place in a very, very small town in Durango. It's practically a ghost town and I haven't been back in over 15 years because my grandparents, who used to live there, have since passed away. But when they were alive, we would go multiple times a year to visit them. Here is my first story. My mom's mom passed away years before I was born.

• 49:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But my mom has always told us this wild story that stuck with her. My grandma was very ill when she passed away. But she did die peacefully in her sleep. But right before she started to get ill and get diagnosed with all these medical problems, a lot of unexplained things started to happen. My mom remembers at a very young age, her aunt, who was my grandma's sister, was always very rude to them. My grandma would tell her children that her sister had always been envious of her, but she never knew why. One day, my grandma was walking towards the river to wash her clothes, and she said she recalled seeing footstep marks in the dirt. And it just so happened that these footsteps were along the same path that she was going. But that wasn't too out of the ordinary, as a lot of people from the town would go down

• 49:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

to the same river to wash their clothes. Mind you, it's a super small town, so people would get around by walking or by horse. But then she noticed that all of a sudden, out of nowhere, the footsteps ended. But there was still a long way to go in order to get to the river. She said she thought it was odd, but she didn't put much thought to it. Her foot landed right over one of the last footstep marks. And the moment she put her foot down, she felt a sudden, shooting pain on the heel of her foot that went all the way up her whole body and made her double over in pain. She thought maybe she stepped on something sharp, possibly glass. But when she looked, there was nothing sharp on the ground or attached to her shoe. Someone from the town heard her scream and truly had to assist carrying her back home

• 50:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

as she couldn't put any pressure on her foot.

• 50:35Corinne Vien?

My gosh, and to scream from it, like, that is severe pain.

• 50:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That was the beginning of the downfall. My grandmother became very ill after that. She had constant pain on her body that caused her to not be able to walk much. She was getting constant migraines. She stopped being able to eat. And she also started to feel extremely sad. Everyone in town would come to visit her and bring her food and help take care of her. She became so ill that no doctors were able to get to the root of the problem. Yes, we also have to keep in mind there wasn't a ton of technology or knowledge of the medicine that there is now, but still, they couldn't find anything wrong with her blood work, nothing in the x-rays, nothing. In conversation, she mentioned the sharp pain that she had felt while walking to the river to my grandpa, who was her husband and a neighbor.

• 51:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My grandpa then decided to find a corondaro, who's a healer, who uses folk remedies, and decided to bring one to my grandma. On many occasions, they would attempt to bring her to this healer, and she would become so ill that she couldn't leave the house. Like, she was doing fine, but the moment they would go to leave the house, she was so doubled over in pain, she couldn't leave. They didn't mention anything to this healer, or of the incident, they just let him do his healing. My mom isn't sure of what happened during her healing, as nobody ever spoke of it. But in the end, he informed them that someone very close to my grandmother had put a curse on her. He informed them that they would be visited by evil that night, that the evil was going to try to stop the healing from happening, but that he would be doing magic,

• 52:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

white magic, that night, and that it would be revealed who put the curse on them. They didn't mention anything to my mom and her siblings, because they truly didn't know what to believe. But all my mom knew was that my grandma was feeling much better and wasn't in constant pain after the healer visited. But then nighttime came, and all of a sudden, a laughter came from the roof of the house.

• 52:29Corinne Vien?

  Ooh.

• 52:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My mom said that my grandpa went outside to see what it was, and he started yelling, that all of the siblings had to start praying, because La Bruja was there. My mom and her siblings were all very young, but they just did what they were told and started to pray. But they couldn't concentrate due to the fear they felt. Then my grandma started to yell. And when my mom looked out of the window, she saw a lechuza, which is a large owl, believed to be a witch standing on their fence.

• 52:54Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 52:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

She's literally being attacked by all negative forces.

• 52:59Corinne Vien?

Yeah. This is so intense, too. It's like, who wished her harm at like such a level where she is being so viciously attacked?

• 53:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We're about to find out. My mom never believed in anything paranormal, but till this day, she cannot explain how a woman's laughter was coming out of the lechuza. My grandpa started-

• 53:18Corinne Vien?

  It's because it was a-

• 53:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It's a witch.

• 53:19Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 53:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Evil.

• 53:20Corinne Vien?

  It was not an owl.

• 53:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My grandpa started to throw rocks at it and it started to fly over their house. And the laughter became louder and louder. My grandpa and my grandma were both cursing at it, telling it it was not welcome there, that God was more powerful. All the while, my mom and her siblings are trying to focus on praying. And all of a sudden, the laughter went away and the tension in the house dissipated. No one can explain what occurred, but they realized that Corandero was right. And keep in mind, the Corandero was doing white magic at the same time that night back home. The next day, my mom's sister was seen around town with bruises on her face and her body looked very weak.

• 54:00Corinne Vien?

I was just thinking, this is so intense. I wonder what's happening to the person who wished this harm on her. And I cannot believe it was her own sister.

• 54:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yep.

• 54:09Corinne Vien?

  Why?

• 54:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Everyone assumed, and this is content warning, I guess the sister was in an abusive relationship.

• 54:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Everyone thought maybe her husband had hit her. Then, my grandparents thought, was she the cause of the curse? My grandpa and grandma had realized that she was the only one from town that had not come to visit her when she had become sick in the beginning. Years went by and my grandma was healthy for the most part, but by the age of 40, she started to have a lot of medical issues and was ill for many, many years. My grandpa still lived in the small town after my grandma passed away. And I'm not sure if there was ever another Corandero involved or not, because by then, my mom had moved to America and started her life here. I remember when we would go during the summer, my mom would always tell me to never enter that aunt's house alone. I never understood why until I got older and she told me the story.

• 54:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But I always recall that my aunt was a very creepy lady. She had an evil look in her face. And whenever we would go to visit her, my mom would always say a prayer before.

• 55:08Corinne Vien?

Why would you still visit her?

• 55:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know.

• 55:11Corinne Vien?

I guess if you don't have complete proof, it's hard to also.

• 55:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And then, my mom and one of the aunt's daughters were really, really close growing up.

• 55:19Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 55:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And she remembers her cousin telling her that her mom would always speak very ill of my grandma. And she was always very bitter that my grandma had a better life than she did. My grandpa passed away many years later of old age in that house, and that was about 15 years ago. My mom would go to Mexico to help take care of him for about three months straight, come back for a month and then go back. But my mom knew his time was coming soon, because my grandpa would say that grandma was visiting him. He passed in the house peacefully while holding my aunt's hand. The vibes of the house are still immaculate and you really do feel at peace there.

• 55:52Corinne Vien?

Wow, I'm so glad that she was still able to have a good life and that this didn't, this period of curse

• 56:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 56:00Corinne Vien?

Didn't take that away from her.

• 56:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right, but then like she did have a lot of illnesses leading up to her death.

• 56:06Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 56:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Did it still impact her later on?

• 56:10Corinne Vien?

I mean, this sister is like, she's she's never gonna live a happy life if she continues to, which clearly, I don't have to tell her, she's probably already dead, not to be.

• 56:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 56:21Corinne Vien?

She basically chose to have a horrible life by continuing a negative thought pattern in her entire life and wishing harm upon others.

• 56:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 56:28Corinne Vien?

And sure, you're never gonna recover.

• 56:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This goes back to like the conversation we were having, but when you become so consumed with something, whether it's real or not, if you become that consumed with it, you probably are creating it to exist. Like, that's something that I'm like very much trying to change my belief system because

• 56:46Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 56:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I feel like if I keep believing that I can't find a healthy relationship and like have that life that I want, then I'm not going to ever have it because I keep living that narrative in my mind.

• 56:58Corinne Vien?

  The power of positive thought.

• 57:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, okay. Now onto my second story. My dad's side of the family also grew up in the same town. His parents' house and my mom's parents' house are across a dirt road from each other. I'm so curious if her dad's family came to help her mom's mom when the curse was going on.

• 57:16Corinne Vien?

  Oh, yeah.

• 57:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

The only thing separating their homes was a dirt road and my dad's aunt's house. My dad's father passed away years before I was born as well, so my grandma, my dad's mom, was the only one who lived there. And well, everyone was terrified of grandma's house. Like, it just gave a creepy ass vibe. You felt like you were being watched all the time. You would hear weird noises from the kitchen as if plates were being thrown and broken. A small white dog could be seen in the house in one of the corners of their rooms that had a door to the outside. But guess what? That dog was a ghost.

• 57:50Corinne Vien?

  Ghost town.

• 57:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

He was seen by multiple people at night. But what's even more creepy were all the weird noises that would happen as you tried to sleep. And the sounds that would wake you up. It sounded as if chains were being dragged on cement floors. Or if coins were being dropped on cement floors.

• 58:11Corinne Vien?

That's creepy. I wonder how old the house is and what happened there and who died.

• 58:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And who was chained up there.

• 58:15Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 58:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Everyone used to believe that maybe there was money hidden under the cement floors. Because turns out, back in the day, before it was my grandparents' home, it was a bar. Many people were tragically killed there in the bar during fights or rival issues that had occurred. Well, now I want to know like the history of this town. It's like the Wild West. So when we would go back to Mexico. All of my cousins and I were forced to sleep at this house. We would all sleep in the same room with my grandma because we were terrified. And we had a buddy system to go to the bathroom. Even during daytime, I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to spend the night there as often because I would use the excuse that I wanted to sleep with my mom at her dad's house. And I'm not joking when I say this, but so many of my cousins on my dad's side would beg me

to ask their parents if they could sleep with me at my grandpa's house. And yes, grandpa's house is the same house where all the witchcraft incidents had happened. But at that house, there was no residue or ever any scary feelings. But at my dad's mom's house, my grandma's house, something creepy lurked at night. And I always found it odd that my grandma used to sleep in the middle bedroom, not her original bedroom.

  Hmm.

• 59:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't know the reason behind it, but I always had the feeling it was because of the vibe that room gave. It was very heavy. Dark feelings resided in there. Later, my grandma moved with us to the US. I would ask her if there were any scary things that happened, and she would always say no. But towards the end of her life, while she was on hospice and on morphine, she was high as a kite. And she told us that my grandpa, my dad's father, was an abusive asshole. My mom remembers her being in the house when my grandpa threw plates of food at my grandma. So we realized that the noise of breaking plates is probably my grandpa's spirit.

But what the hell is that ghost dog? And why was that bathroom so scary? I went back many years later after my grandma had passed away, and it did seem like the eerie feeling was pretty much gone, except for that one bathroom. People till this day say that they see a shadow in front of the house from the streets. We don't know who that might be. I don't really care to find out either. And my cousins still prefer to spend the night at my mom's parents' house when they go, rather than this house. Keep being awesome and stay spooky from Melissa.

• 1:00:33Corinne Vien?

  Damn, that's crazy. That's a lot.

• 1:00:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  There's a lot.

• 1:00:37Corinne Vien?

There's a lot of haunted houses.

• 1:00:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And this is like a small town.

• 1:00:40Corinne Vien?

  A lot of curses.

• 1:00:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  And there's this much energy.

• 1:00:42Corinne Vien?

A lot of trauma and bad relationships. Whether it be a sister or a husband, that's tough.

• 1:00:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Um, tell me your, what would you need in order to make a deal with the devil?

• 1:00:53Corinne Vien?

I think it would be, it would have to be pretending to Noah. I think it would have to be like very family specific. Like I almost think it would have to be like, this sounds dark, but I feel like if it were like Brian or my immediate family or like a certain things where it's like, you know, bad things are gonna happen. There's a part of me that might be like, well, that's life. But I probably wouldn't. I probably would like try to combat it. But I think if it was just like anything with Noah, I would immediately make the deal.

• 1:01:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay, so for protection.

• 1:01:24Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Of Noah, basically.

• 1:01:25Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it's kind of like, there's like a trend on TikTok too, pretending to the sinners movie where people are like, you couldn't get me out the door unless, and then it shows like who you would walk out the door and become a vampire for, who you would like sacrifice yourself for.

• 1:01:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

If everyone's becoming a vampire, I would just, fuck it, I'm gonna come one, become one too.

• 1:01:45Corinne Vien?

If, yeah, if your loved one, if your, if your best friend, if your brother, if your child, if Noah was a vampire, I wouldn't want him to live eternity without his mommy.

• 1:01:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 1:01:55Corinne Vien?

I'd also have to be vampire.

• 1:01:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:57Corinne Vien?

  Vampire mommy.

• 1:01:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Vampire mommy. My mom is a vampire. Mom went on a date with a vampire? What's that movie?

• 1:02:03Corinne Vien?

I don't know, I was, I thought you were just like declaring that Aurora was a vampire. I was like, interesting, we've even talked about this before.

• 1:02:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  She, she could.

• 1:02:10Corinne Vien?

Your dad's possessed by the devil and your mom is a vampire. Interesting.

• 1:02:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

A little bit about me, do I make a lot more sense now?

• 1:02:16Corinne Vien?

  Two truths and a lie.

• 1:02:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I ate Taco Bell breakfast. Fun facts.

• 1:02:20Corinne Vien?

  Oh shoot, they're all truths.
