• 2:43Speaker 03

  Hi Daniel, how are you?

• 2:44Speaker 05

  Hey, nice to see you.

• 2:45Speaker 03

  Good to see you.

• 2:45Bobby Lee?

  Can you do headphones?

• 2:46Speaker 05

  Sure.

• 2:47Speaker 03

  Are you still in Hawaii?

• 2:48Speaker 05

I just asked. We were just talking about that. Yeah, I still live there, but I haven't been there since March. So, but I'm heading home tomorrow? Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, something like that. So, it'll be nice. That was where we saw each other last.

• 3:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:01Speaker 05

  You know, by the way...

• 3:02Bobby Lee?

  I love your home.

• 3:03Speaker 05

  Oh, thank you.

• 3:05Bobby Lee?

I've been there, I've been to his home.

• 3:08Speaker 05

You know, do you know that last time you were there, we were supposed to have dinner? I got you guys reservations at Mazze, Bar Mazze, because you asked me about it.

• 3:15Speaker 03

  With Chef Key, yeah.

• 3:16Speaker 05

  Yeah, with Chef Key.

• 3:17Bobby Lee?

  I flaked, I flaked, I flaked.

• 3:18Speaker 05

  And you totally flaked.

• 3:19Speaker 01

  Oh my god!

• 3:20Bobby Lee?

Oh my, this doesn't sound like me!

• 3:22Speaker 03

Wait. I'm gonna call about it.

• 3:25Bobby Lee?

  Who are you talking about?

• 3:25Speaker 03

Can I tell you the truth?

• 3:26Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 3:27Speaker 03

Can I tell him the truth?

• 3:29Bobby Lee?

This podcast is all about the truth.

• 3:31Speaker 05

  Are we rolling?

• 3:32Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, we're rolling.

• 3:33Speaker 01

  It's a truth podcast, Daniel.

• 3:34Speaker 03

Oh my god, I feel really bad. Okay, so Bobby, you had reservations for Thursday. Bobby called me on a Monday, and he's like, "I can't wait. Can you reach out to Chef Key?" And so I did. And we ended up eating... Oh!

• 3:51Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 3:54Bobby Lee?

  Of course.

• 3:54Speaker 05

So you went there the night before?

• 3:56Speaker 03

I ended up not going, but he went there alone.

• 3:58Bobby Lee?

I never went. I never went there. Yeah, yeah, I have no... I have no... Is that what happened?

• 4:03Speaker 03

That's what happened. You were like, "You have to get me there." Yeah, and so I reached out to him, and he was like, "Yeah, sure." I was like, "Bobby's really hungry, can he come in?" And so he went, like, on a Monday.

• 4:13Bobby Lee?

  Oh, I'm so sorry, Daniel.

• 4:16Bobby Lee?

Why does that burn you? Why does that burn?

• 4:18Speaker 01

  Because he's wise.

• 4:19Bobby Lee?

Why are you mad about that?

• 4:21Speaker 05

  Here's why.

• 4:21Bobby Lee?

  Oh!

• 4:22Speaker 05

  Here's why.

• 4:22Bobby Lee?

  Oh, you went?

• 4:23Speaker 05

  No, I didn't go.

• 4:24Bobby Lee?

  Okay, okay.

• 4:25Speaker 05

But that place, in order to secure the reservation, you had to put down a credit card and a non-refundable deposit.

• 4:31Bobby Lee?

You owed me money! Oh, I'm sorry!

• 4:35Speaker 01

You owed me star. You owed me money.

• 4:37Bobby Lee?

  EB Star, Daniel D. Kim!

• 4:40Speaker 05

So I had to call Key, and I was like, "It was for Bobby Lee, he was supposed to come, he didn't go."

• 4:46Speaker 03

I'm surprised Chef Key didn't out you.

• 4:49Bobby Lee?

Yeah, he didn't. He never said that. Did you put the deposit down?

• 4:53Speaker 03

Um, yeah, I think I put my credit card down.

• 4:54Bobby Lee?

Oh my god, I'm so sorry.

• 4:56Speaker 03

But you want a loan. He's one of those guys.

• 4:57Bobby Lee?

  I want a loan!

• 4:58Speaker 03

  Yeah, you want a loan.

• 4:58Bobby Lee?

That sounds like you. I get that. I get that. Alright, well then, you know, I... I am sorry, I am sorry to you, DDK. That's really good, man. What do you mean? Apology accepted. Yeah, thank you so much. True song. Yeah, yeah, yeah. DDK from Lost and Butterfly. Thank you for coming. Daniel, give him a round of applause.

• 5:32Speaker 06

  Woo!

• 5:33Bobby Lee?

I really apologize for that. Um, have you met Andrea Jin before? Uh, I'm a fan, yeah. Really? We met after a show.

• 5:41Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 5:41Bobby Lee?

  What show?

• 5:42Speaker 06

Ronnie, I opened for Ronnie in Hawaii.

• 5:48Speaker 06

  Why?

• 5:48Bobby Lee?

Why is that funny? Well, because she's a survivor. Uh huh.

• 5:51Speaker 06

  Of what?

• 5:52Bobby Lee?

Here, here, Daniel, she's one of those that like hops camp.

• 5:55Speaker 06

  No!

• 5:57Bobby Lee?

I see where you're going. She's a climber, camp hopper, camp hopper.

• 6:02Speaker 06

  For what?

• 6:03Bobby Lee?

And she, but the camps go high.

• 6:05Speaker 06

  For opening?

• 6:06Bobby Lee?

She goes boop, boop, boop, up, Ronnie Chang, and then she comes down to me.

• 6:09Speaker 06

  No!

• 6:09Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 6:10Speaker 03

What is she supposed to do? Aren't you supposed to do that here?

• 6:13Speaker 06

  Exactly.

• 6:14Bobby Lee?

  Here, where?

• 6:14Speaker 03

I mean, like, I just don't understand, like, what, isn't that how everyone's supposed to operate?

• 6:18Speaker 06

  Thank you, Coach.

• 6:18Bobby Lee?

It reminds me of me. I didn't say that in a negative way.

• 6:22Speaker 06

  No, but Bobby, you're...

• 6:23Bobby Lee?

  It's like a padawan.

• 6:24Speaker 06

No, but, yes, thank you, I appreciate that. But also, I'm just doing, I'm just opening for people normally.

• 6:32Bobby Lee?

You're not. Can I, can I just say, I'm sorry, DDK, um, absolutely not, alright? I don't know anyone at your level that does Bill Burr, Ronnie Chang, now John, John Mulaney. Whoa. Right? Bobby Lee. Me.

• 6:46Speaker 06

  Bobby Lee.

• 6:46Bobby Lee?

Right? So, I mean, that's a lot. You're killing it. Killing it.

• 6:49Speaker 06

  Thank you.

• 6:50Bobby Lee?

  Killing it.

• 6:50Speaker 06

But what am I supposed to do? Like, turn it down?

• 6:53Bobby Lee?

No, I'm, I'm not saying it in a bad way. Hopping's good.

• 6:57Speaker 06

  Oh, okay, okay.

• 6:57Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, but I don't know why I'm the bottom hop. Oh, that's what it is. Can I be the top hop? But why do you, why do you consider yourself the bottom hop? She never said that about you. Because I have a theory, because I have a... First, so good, this is so good. I'm so glad you're here. Alright, um, I have a theory. She flaked on a gig with me.

• 7:17Bobby Lee?

  Last second, yeah you did?

• 7:18Speaker 06

  Uh, yeah.

• 7:19Bobby Lee?

  That's a fact.

• 7:19Speaker 06

  I'm sorry.

• 7:19Bobby Lee?

Right. Did you have to put down a deposit?

• 7:23Bobby Lee?

Daniel, if you're gonna bring that back up, let's get that, let's get that out, let's work that through. I thought you, okay. I need more singing. Alright, so.

• 7:32Bobby Lee?

DDK, DDK, I'm sorry. Alright, so, um, so she flaked, and my theory is this, that you opened for one of those other guys?

• 7:42Speaker 06

  No, I didn't.

• 7:42Bobby Lee?

  Instead of me.

• 7:43Speaker 06

  I didn't, I swear to God.

• 7:45Bobby Lee?

  Okay.

• 7:45Speaker 06

  You could check, I didn't.

• 7:46Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I don't check, so, I just have theories.

• 7:51Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah. So she's loyal in her flaker, she's. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's good to you, Bobby.

• 7:55Speaker 06

Yeah, if I flake, I'm staying at home.

• 7:57Bobby Lee?

Okay, good. Another thing that you did today that, um, I find interesting, and I.

• 8:01Speaker 06

  I didn't.

• 8:02Bobby Lee?

  Did you?

• 8:03Speaker 06

I didn't pump up my breasts. That's what Bobby's ass.

• 8:09Bobby Lee?

What are you saying? I didn't sing. Guys know each other better than us.

• 8:14Bobby Lee?

What I'm just saying is, is that you elevated, I've never seen you elevate your chest region.

• 8:18Speaker 06

Okay, I wore a bra that's kind of like pump up, but then I didn't, like, do it intentionally, I just wore a bra.

• 8:25Speaker 03

Girls have different kinds of bras for different feelings and emotions.

• 8:29Bobby Lee?

Can I just say something, and I, and I agree.

• 8:31Speaker 03

  Today is a push-up day.

• 8:32Bobby Lee?

Okay, you can pump, push, you know what I mean? Expose, do whatever you need, that's your choice, okay?

• 8:37Speaker 06

  Okay, thank you.

• 8:38Bobby Lee?

And I, I'm, I only lock eyes, okay? What I'm saying, though, is that it was so jarring, because I hang out with her all the time. Do I, how many times do we have dinner? You just made DDK take a water break. We're, we're gonna go back to, oh, but just, sorry, you're alright. Anyway, yeah, yeah, so anyway, you, and then you exposed the, you know what I mean?

• 8:56Speaker 06

  Two to three.

• 8:56Bobby Lee?

  The tip regions.

• 8:57Speaker 06

Two to three times a, a week, I would say.

• 9:00Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, that we eat.

• 9:01Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 9:01Bobby Lee?

And hang out, yeah. And I've never seen it, so that's all, let's move on.

• 9:04Speaker 06

  We are on camera.

• 9:05Bobby Lee?

Okay. Oh, that's what, okay, that's, we're on camera.

• 9:08Speaker 03

Can a girl lift her tits on camera?

• 9:10Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, you're right. Anyway, DeeDee, um.

• 9:15Bobby Lee?

Do people call you DeeDee, or no? Only you. Really? Can I call you, or no? You can. Yeah, yeah. That can be, that can be just for us. Okay, okay. So, um, Daniel, um, congratulations on Butterfly. Now, I know it's a great show. How do you know? Because my best friend writes on it. Who? Gene. Gene, oh, yeah.

• 9:34Speaker 06

  That's Gene Hong.

• 9:35Bobby Lee?

Yeah. Is he low on the totem pole? No, he's, he's high on the totem.

• 9:38Speaker 05

  But he's a recent addition.

• 9:41Bobby Lee?

Yeah, he always says, yeah, I think it's really, it's really good. He never says that about.

• 9:48Speaker 03

  Anything.

• 9:49Speaker 05

  Is that true?

• 9:50Bobby Lee?

Yeah, he said it out loud.

• 9:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:51Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, many times.

• 9:52Speaker 05

  Well, that's high praise.

• 9:53Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 9:54Speaker 05

I love the genes on the show, like, you know, it's really cool to have so many Asian American writers on the show. And to be able to.

• 10:00Bobby Lee?

  Is it all?

• 10:01Speaker 05

Almost all, almost all. But it's, yeah.

• 10:07Speaker 05

It's a good thing that when you're in a decision making position, you can kind of have a say in those kinds of things. And, you know, we've been asking for that for a long time, but now we get to have it.

• 10:16Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 10:16Speaker 05

And it just, he's a really good writer. Forget the whole, like, you know, what race people are. He's really talented. All of our writers are just really good.

• 10:24Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, I mean, he is the best. And also, you know, when I did Reservation Dogs, it was mostly native, you know, I mean, writers and I think, because it's a point of view, too.

• 10:34Speaker 05

  Mm hmm.

• 10:35Speaker 03

That's what I loved about Res Dogs, actually, from like top to bottom. They really stayed like true to everyone being like natives. Sterling hired cousins, an uncle, like people from the Res. It was amazing.

• 10:49Speaker 05

Yeah, you know, you have lived experiences.

• 10:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:51Speaker 05

That all the writers have, that, you know, when they're talking about story ideas, they can draw from their own past. And that's really important.

• 10:57Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 10:58Speaker 03

A show that I've been really impressed with that I just started watching, it was Chief of War.

• 11:02Speaker 05

Mm hmm. Very similar. That mission was very similar.

• 11:05Speaker 03

  And.

• 11:05Bobby Lee?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, what is it?

• 11:07Speaker 03

Chief of War is basically, go ahead.

• 11:10Bobby Lee?

Chief of War. Well, obviously, there's a war. Let's break that.

• 11:16Speaker 05

  We're doing great.

• 11:17Bobby Lee?

No, no, no, no. So chief, right? So it's like, you know, it's a tribe. There's tribes.

• 11:23Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 11:24Bobby Lee?

So every tribe has a chief, right? There's obviously a war going on, you know, I mean, or some sort of conflict, right?

• 11:30Speaker 03

  Mm hmm.

• 11:31Bobby Lee?

But now we gotta see what it is. Like, where is it?

• 11:35Speaker 03

  Guess.

• 11:36Bobby Lee?

  Natives against Mormons or something.

• 11:38Speaker 03

  It's always natives against one.

• 11:40Bobby Lee?

One white guy, like, like the last Samurai, like Tom Cruise.

• 11:43Speaker 03

  Paleskins.

• 11:44Bobby Lee?

  Paleskins.

• 11:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 11:45Bobby Lee?

Oh, so that's what the thing is.

• 11:47Speaker 03

And where is it, where is it?

• 11:48Bobby Lee?

  Hawaii.

• 11:51Bobby Lee?

I knew what it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it good?

• 11:54Speaker 03

I like it a lot. I think what's really, um, is you have, you don't really hear Hawaiian language spoken in that length. Like, everyone speaks Hawaiian and everything is subtitled. And I think that's incredible. It's the first time it's ever been done.

• 12:08Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 12:09Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:09Bobby Lee?

  Have you seen it?

• 12:10Speaker 05

Uh, I've seen parts of it. Uh, I'm still getting my way through it and I'm really enjoying it. Like, you know, that mission to kind of bring that kind of story told in that way with real authenticity. It's great. It's, it's, it's what needs to be done and, you know, it's fantastic for Hawaii. It's fantastic for Jason. It's fantastic for everyone involved. And to have it in O'Leila Hawaiian is amazing.

• 12:33Bobby Lee?

Weren't there like wars between islands first before the whites came?

• 12:36Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 12:36Speaker 05

That's the thing. It's not that simple. It's really just, it like, each, each island had its own kind of chief.

• 12:43Bobby Lee?

  Chief, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 12:44Speaker 05

  Of war.

• 12:44Bobby Lee?

Yeah. Which, which, which island would you want to be chief? I, I, probably me, Oahu.

• 12:50Speaker 05

  Well.

• 12:52Bobby Lee?

I could go to Pickin' the Lady.

• 12:53Speaker 05

  That's true.

• 12:55Bobby Lee?

I could get good isaii balls.

• 12:56Speaker 05

You'd want to be a modern day chief.

• 12:58Bobby Lee?

Oh, they didn't have that back then?

• 12:59Speaker 05

No, I don't think Pickin' the Lady.

• 13:02Speaker 05

  I'll have to check.

• 13:02Bobby Lee?

Oh. But it's a, um, is Oahu, because you go to Oahu, it's Honolulu, big cities, this and that. Was that the premier island back then? Or, I don't know?

• 13:14Speaker 03

Um, it doesn't look like, it doesn't seem like it. Everyone had their own, like, district. Everyone had their own chief. But the story that's interesting is you see the beginning of Kamehameha. Who is, yeah, King Kamehameha.

• 13:26Bobby Lee?

Oh, wow. And what, what island was he at? Hawaii?

• 13:28Speaker 03

He was in, uh, uh, Big Island, Hawaii Island.

• 13:32Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, that one.

• 13:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:34Bobby Lee?

  What's it called?

• 13:35Speaker 03

It's Hawaii Island, but they call it Big Island.

• 13:36Bobby Lee?

Big Island, yeah, yeah, yeah. And not a lot of people on the Big Island, right? I've never been to the Big Island.

• 13:40Speaker 05

Not now. I mean. The majority, overwhelming majority of people are on Oahu.

• 13:45Bobby Lee?

Hmm, yeah, yeah, yeah, cuz you had children.

• 13:47Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 13:47Bobby Lee?

You're acting some of them, right?

• 13:49Speaker 05

  Uh, no, not really.

• 13:51Bobby Lee?

Well, one of them, I saw you on set with one of them, maybe a couple of years ago, whatever, was that in my mind?

• 13:56Speaker 05

One of them did a commercial.

• 13:57Bobby Lee?

Oh, I think that's what it was.

• 13:58Speaker 05

Or I should say, I did a commercial with him, he was the lead of the commercial, I was.

• 14:01Bobby Lee?

  Wow, was he nervous?

• 14:03Speaker 05

Uh, yeah, he was, he had like, the makeup team had to come in every once in a while and bead the sweat off of his forehead.

• 14:10Bobby Lee?

  And it was in Hawaii?

• 14:12Speaker 05

  Uh, LA.

• 14:13Bobby Lee?

  Oh, wow.

• 14:13Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 14:14Bobby Lee?

  Shooting Hawaii is sweaty.

• 14:16Speaker 05

Uh, it can't be, you know.

• 14:17Bobby Lee?

  I know, it's so sweaty.

• 14:18Speaker 05

Yeah, and did you shoot in the summer?

• 14:21Bobby Lee?

  Summer, right, and winter.

• 14:23Speaker 05

  Yeah?

• 14:23Bobby Lee?

Yeah, both times, yeah, it's, it's tough outside, especially when you don't know your lines.

• 14:28Speaker 05

Uh, yeah, that's additional sweat. Sweat plus sweat.

• 14:31Bobby Lee?

Again, right, and it's split and just in your face.

• 14:34Speaker 05

Did you not know your lines? You're joking, you're a pro, I know you knew your lines.

• 14:38Bobby Lee?

Have you ever worked with me?

• 14:40Speaker 05

  Only this way.

• 14:41Bobby Lee?

  It's a nightmare.

• 14:42Speaker 05

  Really?

• 14:42Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, I, here's what I do.

• 14:44Speaker 05

  What?

• 14:44Bobby Lee?

Cuz I just did a movie, I show up, I don't, I've never read it.

• 14:48Speaker 05

  You did Happy Gilmore.

• 14:49Bobby Lee?

Yeah, but there's no lines there.

• 14:51Speaker 05

But I was so happy to see you in it.

• 14:52Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 14:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, that was cool.

• 14:53Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 14:54Bobby Lee?

This is me in Happy Gilmore.

• 14:56Speaker 05

Come on, and you had a little something at the end, the end, how do you, that's great.

• 14:59Bobby Lee?

  I go, yay!

• 15:00Speaker 05

Yeah, come on now, that's something.

• 15:02Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, man.

• 15:04Speaker 05

  It could always be more.

• 15:05Bobby Lee?

  It's no butterfly!

• 15:06Speaker 05

It could always be more, Bobby, we know.

• 15:08Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 15:08Speaker 05

  We know.

• 15:09Bobby Lee?

But, um, yeah, I did, but this is what I do, I show up, I don't know, I've never, I never read it, admit, I don't read it.

• 15:15Speaker 03

  I think you try, but.

• 15:16Bobby Lee?

  I try, but I don't understand.

• 15:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:18Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 15:18Speaker 05

You try to read it, but you don't understand the script.

• 15:21Speaker 03

I think his mistake, Daniel, is that he doesn't know, like, he doesn't read the whole script, or he doesn't know what's going on, he only.

• 15:28Bobby Lee?

I don't know where my character is going or where he's coming from.

• 15:30Speaker 03

Like, he doesn't know what his character is about.

• 15:32Speaker 05

And yet, you're unhappy, you're not getting the bigger jobs.

• 15:36Bobby Lee?

  Oh, snap.

• 15:39Speaker 03

  A shot.

• 15:40Bobby Lee?

  Here's, they're just.

• 15:43Speaker 05

  I won't interrupt, go ahead.

• 15:44Bobby Lee?

  Can I just finish?

• 15:44Speaker 05

  Go, go, go.

• 15:45Bobby Lee?

  You bastard, okay?

• 15:47Speaker 05

  Dee Dee.

• 15:49Bobby Lee?

Anyway, I show up and I go, can I get sides? And they go, okay, they frantically, and then during makeup, it's this.

• 15:59Bobby Lee?

  Right, right?

• 16:00Speaker 05

You don't look at your lines before you get into the makeup trailer?

• 16:03Bobby Lee?

No, here's what I do, and this is the honest truth. If I know I have chunks, then I do.

• 16:11Bobby Lee?

Like if it's like a monologgy kind of chunk where you have to say eight things in one chunk. What do you call that, a paragraph?

• 16:19Bobby Lee?

If I have a paragraph, I just look at it night before.

• 16:22Speaker 05

Well, you know what you're saying? You're saying you're really smart. You're saying that you can look at something 30 minutes before you have to have it in your head, and then you have it? That's a luxury.

• 16:32Bobby Lee?

I don't know if I have it even.

• 16:35Bobby Lee?

Because when we're on set, it's a thing.

• 16:36Speaker 05

I can't get away with that. I'm learning my lines like days before.

• 16:39Bobby Lee?

Yeah, because I've never been number one on the call sheet. So, number one on the call sheet, one time I did a Magnum P.I., where I was the main storyline. That week, I had, the week before, I memorized all of it.

• 16:53Speaker 05

Got it. Alright, so you'll increase your effort.

• 16:56Bobby Lee?

  My effort, yes, exactly.

• 16:58Speaker 05

  People to the workload.

• 16:59Bobby Lee?

Or also basically what the level of project.

• 17:01Speaker 05

  Got it.

• 17:02Bobby Lee?

Like, just in a movie called Karate Ghost, you think I'm memorizing my lines?

• 17:08Bobby Lee?

I'm not memorizing my lines, you know what I mean? I show up on set and I go, alright, and I just say whatever I want. My point is is that, but you know, like, scenes where it's like conversationally, that's easier to memorize for me.

• 17:21Speaker 05

  Yeah, for sure.

• 17:22Bobby Lee?

So if you and I are sitting at a table, and you'd probably be the detective, and I'm some guy that, you know, you, Brian, hey man, I wasn't there, man. You know, and then you say, what would you say?

• 17:32Speaker 05

I just love the choice that you're making with the guy. Kind of a feminine, sheepish.

• 17:38Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I'm not on drugs, man, I wasn't there, man. You know what I mean? And you would say, those kind of scenes I can memorize quickly. It's when I have to pop in, like in a procedural show, and say some sort of scientific line.

• 17:52Speaker 01

Well, the malfeasance of each algorithm is created by technology beyond our synthetic reach.

• 18:00Speaker 05

I've been there. Yeah, and every line is like that, you're fucked. Mm-hmm. No, I've been there. How do you memorize those? It's really hard, because I remember the very first time I was on a set, it was Law & Order, and I was the medical examiner. Oh, nightmare. And so I had to talk about like embolisms in the bloodstream, and I was so nervous. Yes. And I was thinking about just being there in the first place. Wow. Oh my, could you have it? Holy moly. Jason Chenni. Look at the hair, by the way. Wow. How old were you there? Twenty-two. Wow. Twenty-two. Wow. You're there nervous? I'm so nervous.

• 18:42Speaker 05

And I'm looking at Chris Noth, and he's in the scene, and he's doing what you do. He's looking at the sides and memorizing his line, because I'm like the tenth scene of his day. And so, he's just learning it, but I'm like, just sweating. I'm sweating that I have these lines to deliver. And the sweat was so bad, and I was so nervous that the director had to come over to me. She put her hand on my shoulder and was like, "It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be alright. Just breathe, you're gonna be fine." And I thought I was hiding it, but clearly I wasn't. Yeah. And so, I know exactly what you're talking about. That kind of jargon.

• 19:20Speaker 03

Why do directors like, you know, "It's gonna be okay"?

• 19:25Speaker 05

  I don't get that.

• 19:26Speaker 03

  He doesn't get that.

• 19:27Speaker 05

This is what I get from directing. "What are you doing? What are you doing?!" I get screamer.

• 19:35Speaker 03

Wait, do you think it's pretty privileged?

• 19:37Speaker 05

What? I think it's... "Yeah, dude, I look like a troll." That's what it is.

• 19:44Speaker 03

Like, imagine like screaming at that face. You can't do it.

• 19:47Speaker 05

You can't scream at that face. My face, you can. No, I just feel like she felt sorry for me. It was pity, but you know... You've never had a screamer? Oh, I have. Oh. Many, many times. So, you know, I reject the premise. Theory form. Yeah, no, I've been yelled at many, many times. Peter Weller.

Of course. I would like it to be ready to go.

• 20:49Bobby Lee?

Ready to go. And how does one get ready to go, Andrea?

• 20:52Speaker 06

  Take a BlueChew.

• 20:54Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 20:54Speaker 06

  And get hard.

• 20:55Bobby Lee?

  Get hard.

• 20:56Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 20:57Bobby Lee?

  Very good. Yeah.

• 20:58Speaker 06

  Thank you.

• 20:58Bobby Lee?

It's effective. You know, as a 53-year-old man, I have had ED problems.

• 21:03Speaker 06

  You have?

• 21:04Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 21:05Speaker 06

  You have?

• 21:05Bobby Lee?

  And I have used-

• 21:06Speaker 06

No, no, like, I'm questioning, I'm like, "You have?"

• 21:08Bobby Lee?

  I have!

• 21:09Speaker 06

  Oh.

• 21:09Bobby Lee?

• 23:15Speaker 05

  I have.

• 23:16Bobby Lee?

  Oh.

• 23:16Speaker 05

Many, many times. So, you know, I reject the premise.

• 23:22Speaker 00

  Theory.

• 23:22Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 23:23Speaker 05

Yeah, no, I've been yelled at many, many times.

• 23:25Bobby Lee?

  Peter Weller yelled at me.

• 23:27Speaker 05

He yelled at you. What'd he say to you?

• 23:28Bobby Lee?

He goes, um, "Why don't you memorize your lines, kid?"

• 23:34Bobby Lee?

"What's up, son?" That kind of thing. And he goes, "Back in my day, I would have known it. I've never even seen a side." Like the sides are what you memorize?

• 23:43Speaker 05

Well, Peter Weller's like, he's close to a genius. He's like a doctor and like Renaissance PhD, you know?

• 23:49Bobby Lee?

But you know what he did too? I went out and had a cigarette after he yelled at me. He sat next to me. He goes, "Son, what kind of Asian are you?" And I go, "I'm Korean." That's this photo, look.

• 24:00Bobby Lee?

See what my body's doing? I don't wanna talk. Yeah, I'm trying to get away, right?

• 24:06Speaker 05

It's like you're about to fart on it.

• 24:08Bobby Lee?

Right, and he's just like, "Son, back in my day, Vietnam was a terrible war." Like, he's one of those guys.

• 24:13Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 24:14Bobby Lee?

Where they don't know what to say, so they bring back some sort of historical thing that I have no privy to. To connect. To connect. "Vietnam was a terrible war, we should've never been in it." And you're going, "Yeah, dude, I see Platoon."

• 24:27Bobby Lee?

Full Metal Jacket, crazy. He's like one of those, but I told Gene, I go... Cause Gene was the producer of Matt, I met him back then, and I go, "I don't think I can work with people like that." "I'm done with screamers."

• 24:41Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 24:42Speaker 03

How do you deal with screamers?

• 24:43Speaker 05

Uh, I try not to match their energy. You know, like, it's, it's, that's a, that's a no-win situation when two people start screaming at each other. But I tend to get calm when people get really, like, hyped up like that.

• 24:57Bobby Lee?

But now, you would say something.

• 24:59Speaker 05

Oh, I always say what I think. I just make sure I don't match their energy.

• 25:03Bobby Lee?

Okay, let's say you're acting, I'm the director. I go, "DDK, what are you fucking doing?"

• 25:08Speaker 05

They wouldn't even call me DDK.

• 25:10Bobby Lee?

You're like, "Bobby, is that you?"

• 25:16Speaker 05

  "Kim!"

• 25:17Bobby Lee?

Oh yeah, oh yeah, "Kim, what are you doing?" Give me some, what would you say?

• 25:21Speaker 05

And that's what I would do, I would pause. I would not match the energy.

• 25:25Speaker 01

  What's the right thing?

• 25:26Speaker 05

You know, that's just from experience. I don't wanna get into a screaming match, especially cause you know that the crew's all around, and you don't wanna set a bad example for the crew, so...

• 25:37Bobby Lee?

  You pull them aside?

• 25:38Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 25:39Bobby Lee?

  And what would you say?

• 25:39Speaker 05

I would just say, "Let me do my, let me, let me get through this take, and let's have a chat about this."

• 25:45Bobby Lee?

So simple, dude. It's so simple. Not me, I go inside and there's a war. To the chief of war going inside my heart.

• 25:53Speaker 05

Well, it doesn't matter that that's not happening inside, you know. It doesn't mean that it's not happening inside. It is.

• 25:58Bobby Lee?

Rage is, because you're Korean, there's rage.

• 26:00Speaker 05

I mean, it's not that I'm not angry. I just choose not to show it, you know?

• 26:05Bobby Lee?

Oh, I show fear. That's not good either, probably.

• 26:09Speaker 05

No, that's probably not good, because that can be encouraging to a person who screams.

• 26:12Bobby Lee?

I go, "Sorry." That's probably not good. My first monologue at Mad TV, back then, we do live tapings in front of a live studio audience, and there's no teleprompter, right? So it's my first one, I played Connie Chung.

• 26:27Speaker 05

  I remember those days.

• 26:28Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was, I had a full-on monologue in front of a li- I just, I'd never been in front of, like, an audience like that before.

• 26:35Speaker 05

  Did you know your lines?

• 26:36Bobby Lee?

I, yeah, I did, because it's like, they're like, you, they reiterate it, like, there's no teleprompter. You have to know this inside and out. And after, like, the second take, Lauren Dombrowski, one of the producers, walked up to me, and she got on her knees, she held my hand, she goes, "You gotta learn to breathe." Right? Because it's, you're so nervous.

• 26:55Speaker 05

That's what happens when you're nervous. You can't, you can't take a breath.

• 26:58Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 26:59Speaker 05

There's so much tension. There you are. Look at that.

• 27:01Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, there I am.

• 27:03Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 27:03Speaker 03

  Oh, so pretty.

• 27:04Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, and so you're-

• 27:05Speaker 03

  So pretty.

• 27:06Bobby Lee?

And it's like, coming from, I, I didn't come from an acting background, so it's like, I'm literally like, faking it.

• 27:12Speaker 05

  Wow.

• 27:12Bobby Lee?

Yeah. I mean, you come from an acting background, but you've done theater, plays, right?

• 27:16Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:16Bobby Lee?

  Before, like, Hollywood.

• 27:19Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:19Bobby Lee?

Yeah, so you know how to do it.

• 27:21Speaker 05

So you were learning on the fly. You were learning on the job.

• 27:23Bobby Lee?

  I didn't know anything.

• 27:25Speaker 05

  That's amazing.

• 27:25Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I didn't know, no, it's not. It's, I think the worst way, what's this?

• 27:28Speaker 05

His first, his first movie. My serious theater debut, right here.

• 27:32Bobby Lee?

  What was that?

• 27:33Speaker 05

That, this is, uh, this was a movie called American Shaolin. King of the Kickboxers. Yes. Mm-hmm.

• 27:38Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 27:39Speaker 03

This looks cool. Did you shave your head?

• 27:41Speaker 05

  Yeah, I did.

• 27:42Speaker 03

  Whoa.

• 27:42Speaker 05

Yeah, it's, actually, it felt really good to have a shaved head. I'm thinking about doing it again.

• 27:46Bobby Lee?

  You should, dude.

• 27:46Speaker 05

  Yeah, you know, it's-

• 27:47Speaker 03

You have a nice head, too.

• 27:48Speaker 05

  Oh, thank you.

• 27:50Bobby Lee?

  All right.

• 27:51Speaker 05

So it's, uh, but yeah, that was my very first movie. You showed, you just showed my very first TV show, and this is my very first movie.

• 27:58Bobby Lee?

Wow. And now, are you, I don't, are you nervous here?

• 28:01Speaker 05

No, uh, this movie was a very low budget movie. It was, you know, you talk about jobs you do to try and get ahead. Like, I took this job because this was the only opportunity I had. I got to play this guy who fought, and what is that?

• 28:17Bobby Lee?

  That's me.

• 28:18Speaker 06

  His first job.

• 28:19Bobby Lee?

  My first job.

• 28:21Speaker 05

  See? Who's hotter?

• 28:25Speaker 05

But we're like experiential brothers, Bobby, look at us.

• 28:28Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 28:29Speaker 05

  Right?

• 28:29Bobby Lee?

  I came out wrong.

• 28:32Bobby Lee?

I came out the other way, feet first, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 28:35Speaker 05

No, but I, you know, you take the jobs that you can get and hope that people will see your work and it'll lead to better jobs, you know? That's the idea. I'm sure that was, that's the idea for you, Andrea.

• 28:45Speaker 06

  Yeah, I try.

• 28:47Speaker 05

Well, now you're not trying, you're doing.

• 28:49Speaker 06

  Thank you, that's so nice.

• 28:50Bobby Lee?

Yeah, are you auditioning a lot?

• 28:52Speaker 06

Not a ton, but here and there.

• 28:55Bobby Lee?

Do you still have to read, Daniel?

• 28:58Speaker 05

Yeah, I mean, if it's a, you know, there are a lot of people who don't know who I am. Just ask Jackie. Just ask my agent over there. There are a lot of people, like in the, like especially in film, that are like, isn't he a TV guy? Or, you know, like...

• 29:11Speaker 06

  That's crazy.

• 29:12Speaker 05

  So...

• 29:12Bobby Lee?

Yeah, my, my agent's like, maybe it's time to do another reel. And I go, what?

• 29:18Speaker 05

Have you updated your headshots recently?

• 29:21Bobby Lee?

No, they don't make you do that, no, no. I would not do that, but, um, yeah, it's, they don't know, you know, it's so funny. Jackie, you probably know this, there is a disconnection, I think, between the people above and what's really kind of going on. Do you think that or no?

• 29:37Speaker 05

  Yeah, I do, for sure.

• 29:38Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 29:39Speaker 05

Like, Hollywood has pockets, like, you can be known in certain pockets and completely unknown in other pockets, but it's not that way. Everyone's watching everything different at different times and, and there's so many things to watch now.

• 29:51Bobby Lee?

  Too much.

• 29:52Speaker 05

  Yeah, it's a lot.

• 29:52Bobby Lee?

It's a lot. Do you feel blessed? Because I feel like Lost is one of those shows that's... There'll never be another show like it. The kind of numbers it got, right? Like, I don't know what that feels like, really. Because, you know, I mean, I've been on serious regulars, but they weren't hits. You know what I mean? Lost was a cultural phenomenon. Like, do you feel blessed when you look back?

• 30:14Speaker 05

A hundred percent. I wouldn't be here talking to you if it wasn't for Lost.

• 30:17Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 30:18Speaker 05

  It's true.

• 30:18Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 30:18Speaker 05

It's true. That was the job that really put me on a different playing field. And that's when people first noticed me and really thought, oh, this guy, you know, maybe we can put him in something.

• 30:28Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 30:29Speaker 05

And it helped my career so much in TV, you know? And so, I'm always grateful. And, you know, I feel blessed that I was lucky enough to get that job.

• 30:39Bobby Lee?

Yeah. It was also a really, the first time I saw authentic, I don't know if we talked about this last time, but really authentic Koreans on network television. Where I could look at and go, that feels right. That feels real. It's not some, like, you know, I mean, half-Japanese dude that's really super handsome, that doesn't know the language, you know what I mean, that well. It didn't feel like that. It felt like, oh, no, this, because I didn't, I'm sorry to say, I didn't really know you before that.

• 31:09Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 31:09Bobby Lee?

You know what I mean? You were almost like, who is this guy?

• 31:11Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 31:12Bobby Lee?

And then, I thought you were a Korean dude from Korea.

• 31:15Speaker 05

Oh, interesting. Most Koreans would never say that, but.

• 31:17Bobby Lee?

  Well, I don't know anything.

• 31:18Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 31:18Bobby Lee?

  I don't know the language. I don't know anything. I'm not Korean.

• 31:23Speaker 05

  Well, there you go.

• 31:24Bobby Lee?

  Yeah. Where's the bathroom?

• 31:26Speaker 05

  He says, where's the bathroom?

• 31:27Bobby Lee?

  Yeah. Where's the bathroom?

• 31:31Speaker 05

  What?

• 31:31Bobby Lee?

Where's the bathroom? At the pool? I know dong, that's a guy, I imagine that. That's another thing I know. Why are you looking at me? I'm a little. Where's the school?

• 31:41Speaker 05

  Where's the school?

• 31:42Bobby Lee?

  Where's the school?

• 31:43Speaker 05

Look at this, Bobby. You're practically amazing.

• 31:45Bobby Lee?

He's so Korean. I'm so Korean. Chief of war. Yeah, yeah.

• 31:49Speaker 05

No, but, but, you know, there wouldn't be a Butterfly without Lost.

• 31:53Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 31:54Speaker 05

You know, and I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about the way we kind of talk about the Korean culture and Butterfly, you know, needed the foundation of a show like Lost to kind of introduce audiences around the world to Korean culture and the idea of Korea. Now we have K-pop and K-beauty and K-drama. Put a K in front of anything, you know?

• 32:14Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 32:15Speaker 05

K-food, you know? And, and so, it feels like it was steps in a process. Lost was a big, one of the big first steps.

• 32:25Bobby Lee?

What do you do with your face? It's, let me just stop. You don't age? You're doing something dude, what's going on here?

• 32:32Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, I'm a vampire.

• 32:33Bobby Lee?

No, no, but do you put Korean ointments? Tell me what the secret is.

• 32:37Speaker 05

I will tell you, like, my wife, like, goes to Korea a lot and she'll be like, "Try this lotion, try this sunscreen." And so like, I have like, a drawer full of Korean products, thanks to my wife.

• 32:49Speaker 03

That's what you're missing in your nighttime routine.

• 32:51Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I need to, I like, very Clint Eastwood when I wake up. Leathery, you know what I mean? And it's just doing this, right? And I look in the mirror now, I'm like, oh, I see my age.

• 33:02Speaker 03

But you have good potential, I think you just have zero upkeep.

• 33:04Bobby Lee?

  I'm gonna get jaw filling.

• 33:06Speaker 06

  Do lotion, no, do lotion.

• 33:08Bobby Lee?

Yeah, Malaney, I heard Malaney got it done, I'm gonna do jaw filling.

• 33:11Speaker 05

  He did?

• 33:12Speaker 03

Philly, I love how he calls it filling.

• 33:15Speaker 03

  You're not a turkey.

• 33:17Speaker 05

  What is that?

• 33:18Bobby Lee?

  I'm gonna, you know.

• 33:19Speaker 03

I think that you should be careful because I think that fillers can migrate. So if you don't get like a really good injector, your jaw could become like, it could like move over here and...

• 33:29Speaker 06

It can go to your spine even, fillers.

• 33:31Speaker 03

And they say like, "Oh, it's gonna dissolve in, you know, three, four months." It never dissolves, like fifteen years later, it's still there.

• 33:37Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 33:38Bobby Lee?

  Oh, you're talking...

• 33:38Speaker 03

And you're gonna look like puffy face, yeah, for filler.

• 33:40Speaker 06

But I just feel like you shouldn't jump straight to filler.

• 33:43Speaker 03

  Mm-mm.

• 33:43Speaker 06

  Just do lotion first.

• 33:47Bobby Lee?

  Drink water.

• 33:48Speaker 03

  And maybe some like lasers.

• 33:49Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, laser first?

• 33:50Speaker 03

Yeah, do something like, there's so many things you can do before going to filler.

• 33:53Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 33:54Bobby Lee?

Do you think I need stuff done? Be honest as a friend.

• 33:56Speaker 05

I don't know what you, they're looking for.

• 33:58Bobby Lee?

No, but what do I, what?

• 34:00Bobby Lee?

  Do I look like shit?

• 34:01Speaker 05

  You don't look like shit.

• 34:02Speaker 06

Wait, why don't you get what all the Korean girls get, like, sangapure or whatever?

• 34:06Bobby Lee?

No, I'm not gonna make my...

• 34:08Speaker 05

  Don't do that.

• 34:08Bobby Lee?

I'm not doing that, I'm not getting my eyes wider.

• 34:11Speaker 05

Don't do the eyelid, do that whole eyelid.

• 34:13Speaker 03

Because I had a friend who...

• 34:16Speaker 06

  Wouldn't that be funny?

• 34:18Bobby Lee?

Yeah, it would be funny for one gag, but I don't know. Yeah, I'm not gonna do it for like life. If I just showed up, "What's up? Nothing's wrong here."

• 34:27Speaker 03

I had a friend who got it done recently and it made her look more cross-eyed and I fear that for you. So don't.

• 34:32Speaker 06

But that would be kinda funny.

• 34:33Speaker 03

From one cross-eyed person to another, don't do it.

• 34:35Speaker 06

Yeah. Well, like imagine you had like big double eyelids and like K-pop eyes.

• 34:40Bobby Lee?

  That'd be cool.

• 34:41Speaker 06

  That'd be really funny.

• 34:42Speaker 05

I will say this, you know, older Koreans are, you know, older Asian people are getting eyelid lifts because as they get...

• 34:48Speaker 06

  My grandpa got it.

• 34:49Speaker 05

As they get older, their eyelids actually kinda droop down and it affects their vision.

• 34:53Speaker 03

Is it like the upper bleff?

• 34:54Speaker 05

  Uh huh.

• 34:55Speaker 06

Yeah. Cause my grandpa's eyelashes started to poke his eyeballs, so he had to get...

• 35:00Bobby Lee?

  Mine do that.

• 35:01Speaker 06

  Okay, you needed that.

• 35:02Speaker 05

  So that would be something.

• 35:03Bobby Lee?

Literally mine does that. I spent hours trying to like, "I'll do this."

• 35:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 35:10Bobby Lee?

I'm not done with the routine. And then I'll lift it and I'll try to, you know what I mean?

• 35:16Speaker 06

  Pluck it out?

• 35:16Bobby Lee?

Not pluck it out, but try to like even everything out, right? And still it's there. Oh my god, I think I just fucked it up.

• 35:21Speaker 06

  Oh my god!

• 35:22Bobby Lee?

Oh my god. Oh my god. Yeah, yeah, my point is, is I need it done.

• 35:24Speaker 06

That actually is medical. You do need some surgery.

• 35:31Speaker 05

That can be covered by insurance, literally.

• 35:33Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 35:33Bobby Lee?

  Yeah?

• 35:34Speaker 06

  Cause...

• 35:35Speaker 05

Although that's pretty sexy when you do that, so you know. Don't wanna lose that.

• 35:39Bobby Lee?

Yeah? You think I should get it done?

• 35:41Speaker 06

  You need it.

• 35:42Speaker 03

Yeah, because when you wake up in the morning, it takes you like 10 minutes to open that eye.

• 35:45Bobby Lee?

No, no, it does. Yeah, yeah. It takes me 10 minutes to open an eye.

• 35:47Speaker 06

  It shouldn't.

• 35:48Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Also, do you get sleep or no? No, not sleep, but like gong.

• 35:54Speaker 05

  Everyone does.

• 35:55Bobby Lee?

Okay, good. That's why I thought it was...

• 35:57Speaker 06

But the eyelash thing, it shouldn't happen. You should...

• 35:59Speaker 03

Yeah, even dogs get that surgery, cause they have like inverted lashes.

• 36:03Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 36:03Bobby Lee?

I feel like you guys are gonna make me get the cer...

• 36:07Speaker 00

So, left, right side is a chat GPT generated with the double eyelid.

• 36:12Speaker 06

  That's not bad.

• 36:13Speaker 05

  That's not bad.

• 36:14Bobby Lee?

  Who is that, though?

• 36:14Speaker 00

That's, uh, what the internet, that's what the algorithm thinks. That's you as a Filipino.

• 36:20Speaker 05

  You as a Filipino.

• 36:22Speaker 00

This is what chat thinks you look like.

• 36:23Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah. Wow.

• 36:25Speaker 05

It's a little like Don Lee.

• 36:27Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 36:27Speaker 05

  A Korean acting star. Yeah.

• 36:30Speaker 00

Or it looks like Gene, kinda.

• 36:32Bobby Lee?

  Let's say I'd be a Gene.

• 36:33Speaker 06

  You kinda look like Gene.

• 36:34Bobby Lee?

Yeah. Anyway, um, yeah, I, dude, so I'm, maybe look into that.

• 36:38Speaker 06

Wait, yeah, let's go to Korea and we can get Sangapur or something.

• 36:40Bobby Lee?

Yeah. If you were gonna go get your facial stuff done, what country, would you go to Korea?

• 36:44Speaker 05

  100%.

• 36:45Bobby Lee?

  They're the best.

• 36:46Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. Why go anywhere else?

• 36:48Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 36:48Speaker 06

  Mm-hmm.

• 36:49Bobby Lee?

When you were shooting in Korea, Butterfly, what's it on? Amazon?

• 36:53Speaker 05

  Amazon Prime, yeah.

• 36:54Speaker 00

  Watch it right now?

• 36:54Speaker 05

You guys, Butterfly's out already and I've seen it. It's incredible. Because it's already, you know, they don't know. This is the trailer? Yeah.

• 37:02Bobby Lee?

Yay! The production value is top-notch.

• 37:08Speaker 00

  Movie.

• 37:09Bobby Lee?

  Movie quality.

• 37:10Speaker 05

Thanks. You know, the, the crews in Korea were amazing and what they were able to do on, you know, our budget was exceptional.

• 37:18Bobby Lee?

Wow, yeah. As an executive producer, do, did you do a speech?

• 37:22Speaker 05

  I did many speeches.

• 37:24Bobby Lee?

  You did?

• 37:25Speaker 05

  I did, yeah.

• 37:25Bobby Lee?

Wow. And what kind, like, do you write them?

• 37:28Speaker 05

No, I don't write them, but...

• 37:30Bobby Lee?

  You improvise them?

• 37:30Speaker 05

I just say what I'm feeling in that moment.

• 37:32Bobby Lee?

All right. Like, you just, let me, because I want to give a speech one day on a, I don't know if I have the opportunity.

• 37:37Speaker 00

I know why he's asking this. He might be an EP on something, so now he's like, do I have to give a speech?

• 37:41Speaker 05

  Well, you should.

• 37:41Bobby Lee?

I might be an EP on something.

• 37:42Speaker 05

You're gonna be a tone setter.

• 37:43Bobby Lee?

Yeah, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna see if I can do a speech here.

• 37:46Speaker 05

  Do it. Let's hear it.

• 37:47Bobby Lee?

Now, do you want to go?

• 37:47Speaker 05

Well, I, I need tips first. Do you get, do you get somebody to gather them or do I have to gather them? All right, so, uh, everybody, can, can we gather around, uh, can we gather around the crew? Can we get the crew? Yeah, all right. Bobby would like to say a few words.

• 38:01Bobby Lee?

  Oh, so you do it?

• 38:02Speaker 05

  No, no. I'm your A.

• 38:04Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I know, I know. I know, so somebody else does it.

• 38:06Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 38:07Bobby Lee?

  Thank you, Ricardo.

• 38:10Speaker 00

  Ricardo's Latino?

• 38:12Bobby Lee?

  Thank you, Ricardo. Y'all.

• 38:17Bobby Lee?

Fuck, I already fucked up. Y'all doing a good job. You know what I mean? And, uh... You know, I couldn't have asked for a better crew. Dmitri, man, you're quick with the props. You know what I mean? And Rocco? Your boom... Your boom work is next level. And every movie I do, you're my boom guy.

• 38:36Speaker 01

  Thank you so much.

• 38:39Bobby Lee?

You're welcome. And Rocco? You know what I mean? And also, I want to say, this is a dream project for me. And I, you know, I've been writing this and, you know, and dreaming about this for 20 years. You know what I mean? To do a movie about, you know what I mean? Insectoids, you know what I mean? Attacking, you know what I mean? This anthill? But in live-action form? Is that what the movie was doing?

• 39:01Speaker 06

Is this the beginning of production or at the end?

• 39:06Bobby Lee?

Sally, shut the fuck up, okay? And Sally, you're on my last nerve, all right?

• 39:10Speaker 05

  Sally, you're fired.

• 39:10Bobby Lee?

You're fired. Anyway, guys. Anyway, guys. Um, cut the fucking insectoid, doesn't make any sense. But, um, anyway, guys, to do a movie about the Civil War, but making it all Korean cast is my dream. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? We're doing it at Hamilton, but in a different way. You know what I mean? I really, you know what I mean? And hey, Chang? Chong? Dr. Chong? You do a great Harriet Tubman. Yeah, your Harriet Tubman's great. And, um... And, you know what I mean? Dr. Kang? Very good at, um... What's the guy's name? Frederick Douglass.

• 39:43Speaker 06

  Thank you.

• 39:45Bobby Lee?

Anyway. All right, bye, guys. Let's go. Let's move, let's do it.

• 39:49Speaker 05

You did a lot of great things there. A lot of... Then the crew would be like...

• 39:53Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 39:54Speaker 05

  Yay, Bobby!

• 39:58Speaker 05

You did a lot of great things there.

• 39:59Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, that was really hard.

• 39:59Speaker 05

You like pointed people out specifically. That's a good thing.

• 40:02Bobby Lee?

  That's a good thing.

• 40:03Speaker 05

  Called them out by name.

• 40:04Bobby Lee?

  That's good.

• 40:04Speaker 05

  You spoke from your heart.

• 40:06Bobby Lee?

  I really did.

• 40:06Speaker 05

You named the project and why it's important to you.

• 40:09Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 40:09Speaker 05

  All good things.

• 40:09Bobby Lee?

  I've been to Civil Wars.

• 40:10Speaker 05

All good things. I don't know if I would want to be a part of that project.

• 40:13Bobby Lee?

  Right, right.

• 40:14Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 40:14Bobby Lee?

Oh, okay, well, you're not cast in it. You know what I mean? I didn't invite you.

• 40:18Speaker 05

That's why I can be objective about it.

• 40:19Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, okay, good.

• 40:19Speaker 06

But doesn't it happen often in those speeches where they name everybody?

• 40:24Speaker 05

Sometimes. You know, it's good to like... Like, I've actually like named certain departments at certain times. Just to say, like, if there's a... If there was a great location that we were able to get?

• 40:34Bobby Lee?

  Hmm.

• 40:34Speaker 05

  To name them, you know?

• 40:36Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 40:36Speaker 05

Give them a shout out. Or, you know, if there was some incredible stunt that we just had to do? Like, say thanks to the stunt team, you know? Now, let me...

• 42:23Bobby Lee?

You know, if there was some incredible stunt that we just had to do, like, say thanks to the stunt team, you know? Now, let me, watching that trailer, um, how difficult was it to get in that shape to do it? I mean, it's a, it's a, it's a lot.

• 42:40Speaker 05

I'm not as young as I used to be, man. So it was like all that fighting. I was a little bit like, I love this and give me a day to rest.

• 42:48Bobby Lee?

Oh, really? Yeah. You need to, yeah.

• 42:50Speaker 05

Like, there are a lot. We had sequences that were fight sequences that happened over several nights, night shoots, all night. And so, you know, when it's cold out and you have to change the choreography at the last minute because the location isn't exactly what you thought, or there's some permitting issues, you got to think on your feet all night long. And, you know, it's a challenge, but it's good.

• 43:45Speaker 05

  Turned out all right.

• 43:45Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I mean, mental, also, mental energy, that fucks you up, too.

• 43:50Speaker 05

  That's true.

• 43:50Bobby Lee?

You're constantly thinking and like, you know what I mean? Changing things because you're the executive producer. You must change, you must change things all the time.

• 43:56Speaker 05

Well, it's weird to think about like the work you have to do as an actor. Like, I need to get, you know, the scene right, acting-wise, and then think, oh, we're losing the light. And I know we've got to get this. And then you put your producer hat on and you're thinking about all those things at the same time.

• 44:11Bobby Lee?

And because the directors do go, you don't need a two-shot here.

• 44:16Speaker 05

I try to get, stay out of the way of the directors. But what I do talk to them about is what their plan is. And, you know, they should have a plan for how they want to shoot this as opposed to, we're going to see how it goes. Because that's a recipe for.

• 44:30Bobby Lee?

But is there an argument like, you know, I was thinking about like, you know, doing a specific shot, an insert shot, where I just put these sour balls on the table like that? And you're running out of time and you don't think that he needs it? So what would you say to him? Like, DDK, I really think that we should, we really need this, like this shot right here. Boom.

• 44:48Speaker 05

You know, I would ask why it's important to him and what are we going to lose if we don't have the choice? If we have to make a choice between this and the other thing? So, you know, it's a conversation.

• 45:00Bobby Lee?

Yeah, we don't really need it. I think you're right.

• 45:01Speaker 05

  We don't need your close-up.

• 45:02Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, okay, okay. What's this?

• 45:39Speaker 03

  Insectoids.

• 45:40Bobby Lee?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 45:41Speaker 05

Is that, is that my AI version?

• 45:44Bobby Lee?

No, this is the, when I was doing the, when I did my monologue.

• 45:47Speaker 03

  Insectoids.

• 45:49Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, wow.

• 45:51Speaker 05

That's clever. Now, that sounds more interesting.

• 45:53Bobby Lee?

Yeah, do a Civil War, but all Koreans poster. If Jet GBD could do that.

• 45:59Speaker 05

Look at "Divided We Fall." Man, that's actually...

• 46:01Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 46:02Speaker 05

Man, our jobs are all doomed.

• 46:05Bobby Lee?

  Yeah. Now, are you, um...

• 46:09Speaker 05

  Because he sometimes, I think...

• 46:10Bobby Lee?

Because we've been in it, you've been in it for a long time now. Do you ever think about retiring or no?

• 46:16Speaker 05

  You know, there's still...

• 46:17Bobby Lee?

  It's a lot.

• 46:17Speaker 05

There's still stuff I want to do. There's still stuff I haven't achieved yet. You know, like the way you...

• 46:21Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 46:22Speaker 05

Like, you feel the same way. There's still stuff you would love to do, right? And I won't, I don't think about, I won't think, I don't think I can retire until I've done those things.

• 46:30Speaker 03

He's threatening to throw it all away and live off the grid.

• 46:35Speaker 05

  That sounds on-brand.

• 46:36Bobby Lee?

Yeah. There's parts of me that was like, you know, I think I've done enough. Let's get out and like, go live on the grid.

• 46:42Speaker 05

Yeah, I mean, there's something to be said for going out on your own terms. You know, saying like, I've done a certain thing and now I can move on.

• 46:49Speaker 03

How does that work, though? Like, is it something that most people announce? Or do you just like quietly, you know, fall into their recesses?

• 46:56Speaker 05

I think making an announcement... It's that's kind of a minefield because if you say you're retiring and then you come back, you know, everyone's like, wait a minute, you know, we gave you all the love because you were retiring and now you're doing another thing.

• 47:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:11Speaker 05

And let's face it, in this business, you know, no one's forcing you to retire. You can always come back, you know?

• 47:18Bobby Lee?

I'm not gonna retire. Are you out of your fucking mind?

• 47:20Speaker 05

  I'm glad you're not.

• 47:21Bobby Lee?

You know, I'm staying in it, dude.

• 47:22Speaker 05

  You shouldn't.

• 47:23Bobby Lee?

I'm gonna stay in it until they say, no more.

• 47:26Speaker 05

You're still on the rise, Bobby. You can't retire.

• 47:28Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 47:29Speaker 05

  Rise, you know?

• 47:29Bobby Lee?

  Thank you for saying that.

• 47:30Speaker 05

  It's true.

• 47:31Bobby Lee?

Yeah, you know, when people say stuff, I'm not good with compliments, are you?

• 47:34Speaker 05

Uh, it's, it's hard. We were taught never to accept them.

• 47:37Bobby Lee?

Some Asian guy comes in, oh, Daniel, you're a real pioneer, you know, you really paved the right way and I wouldn't be, I mean...

• 47:43Speaker 05

I'm not comfortable at all. I mean, I, I will be gracious and polite, but I, you know, it makes me a little uncomfortable.

• 47:48Bobby Lee?

Yeah, but do you tell the people? I tell people I'm uncomfortable.

• 47:51Speaker 05

  Uh, that's, that's probably a better thing.

• 47:53Speaker 03

Even though, are you uncomfortable, but do you like it? Do you go home and you're like, God, that felt nice?

• 48:00Bobby Lee?

  No, I like it. I don't, it's uncomfortable. What?

• 48:04Speaker 06

  Do you like it?

• 48:04Bobby Lee?

  Do you like what?

• 48:05Speaker 03

It's uncomfortable to receive a compliment, but do you like it? Do you go home, do you lay your bed, do you lay your head on your pillow and you're like, that made me feel good?

• 48:12Bobby Lee?

No, no, absolutely not, absolutely not, absolutely not.

• 48:15Speaker 05

What about you guys? Andrew, you're getting a lot of them now. You like it.

• 48:18Speaker 03

  I like it.

• 48:19Speaker 06

  Yeah, me too.

• 48:20Speaker 05

Do you pretend that you don't like it?

• 48:21Speaker 06

No, I'm like, oh, thank you.

• 48:23Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 48:24Speaker 06

That's nice. What else about me?

• 48:27Speaker 06

  I would like more.

• 48:28Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 48:29Speaker 06

  I ask for the more.

• 48:30Speaker 03

  Yeah, I think receiving...

• 48:31Bobby Lee?

Well, you, you get it now.

• 48:32Speaker 03

It's awkward, but when I go to bed at night, I'm like, I really like that. That's the feeling.

• 48:37Bobby Lee?

Sometimes it's too much, though. Like, every once in a while, I'll get so uncomfortable, even say, but people cry. Like, I had that, is that something gross? No, it's good.

• 48:50Speaker 06

  And also, it's, it's...

• 48:51Bobby Lee?

No, I've had that happen! I know.

• 48:53Speaker 06

Legitimate, you're not making it up.

• 48:54Bobby Lee?

Or people go, you know, you, you know, because a drug is an alcohol, because I'm sober. They go, you know, you helped me get sober, what's, why are you...

• 49:01Speaker 03

I was gonna, I'm, I'm holding my tongue. Proceed.

• 49:05Bobby Lee?

  Well, well, just say it!

• 49:07Speaker 03

  I'm holding my tongue.

• 49:08Speaker 06

  Wait, what?

• 49:09Speaker 03

  You're so full of shit.

• 49:12Speaker 06

  What?

• 49:12Speaker 03

  Literally, he texts me after...

• 49:15Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 49:16Speaker 03

  Why?

• 49:17Speaker 06

  Okay.

• 49:19Speaker 03

Since I've known you, each big show, big movie, he's like, "I'm Korean Elvis, aren't I?" Every single time. Andrea, tell me he's not full of shit.

• 49:30Speaker 06

Yes. Can I also say? Wait, but...

• 49:34Speaker 00

Korean Elvis is right there, dude.

• 49:36Speaker 01

  I don't know about that.

• 49:37Speaker 00

  That's Korean Elvis.

• 49:38Speaker 06

Wait, I'm with Kalana because, actually...

• 49:41Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 49:41Speaker 06

  I'm just remembering everything.

• 49:47Bobby Lee?

  Excuse me?

• 49:49Speaker 06

  Yeah. No, you go outside.

• 49:53Speaker 03

  Uh huh, uh huh.

• 49:54Speaker 06

You go out after the show.

• 49:56Speaker 03

This is the truth. This is the truth.

• 49:57Speaker 06

Like, after the show, like, when everybody's filing out, you're like, "I'm gonna go to the most crowded place where everybody's filing out to have a smoke."

• 50:05Bobby Lee?

  No, I don't fuck up...

• 50:08Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 50:09Speaker 01

  You're being outed, bro.

• 50:10Bobby Lee?

  I don't know. That's not true. That's not true.

• 50:13Speaker 06

No, no, can I add one more thing?

• 50:14Bobby Lee?

  I don't...

• 50:14Speaker 06

Let me add one more thing. And when everybody's swarming you, you're like,

• 50:22Speaker 06

"I can't believe this is happening." But if they get...

• 50:26Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 50:29Speaker 06

But if they give me a compliment, you get pissed off.

• 50:32Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 50:34Bobby Lee?

  What?

• 50:35Speaker 06

Yeah, you're commenting it, and you're like, "I don't like that."

• 50:40Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 50:40Speaker 03

Thank you so much for that.

• 50:43Bobby Lee?

I have also a defense, Daniel. All right? Gilbert? Yeah. Were you just at the Dallas Improv with me? I was. Yeah. Did I go out one time and do that? No, you were full of anxiety that trip, for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had sold out four shows.

• 50:59Speaker 06

Well, that's a weird night, then.

• 51:00Bobby Lee?

No, no, no, that's not... It's the one time. Gilbert, you've seen me in packed rooms across the country. Do I ever go out? I will say the one memory that comes to mind is Ontario. What happened there? I think you asked me to walk with you through the mall.

• 51:16Speaker 03

  Are you?

• 51:18Bobby Lee?

  Why you?

• 51:20Bobby Lee?

  No, no, no.

• 51:22Speaker 05

  Here's what I'll say.

• 51:23Bobby Lee?

To eat. Oh, okay, okay, okay, okay, it was to eat. What, I'm supposed to teleport there? You're right, you're right.

• 51:30Speaker 05

But here's what I'll say, Bobby. Not, not everything, not everyone is the same person all the time, right?

• 51:36Bobby Lee?

  Thank you.

• 51:37Speaker 05

There are times maybe where you need the validation or a little bit of appreciation when you're feeling low and other times where you want nothing to do with it. So that's fair, it's okay.

• 51:46Speaker 03

I think so, I think you cycle through different, different people.

• 51:53Speaker 05

Is that Ken Jeong as a woman at the top?

• 51:56Bobby Lee?

  Ronnie's in it.

• 51:57Speaker 05

  Oh my god.

• 51:58Bobby Lee?

Am I in it? I think you're far left. Oh, I'm producing, I get a small, the smallest?

• 52:04Speaker 03

I didn't even know that was you.

• 52:06Speaker 05

They don't even, they're not, they're in the ballpark.

• 52:09Bobby Lee?

You can see, you can see Ken Jeong, right? Yeah, Ken Jeong, yeah, that's Ronnie Chang to the right. The Aquafina?

• 52:14Speaker 03

  That's Nora.

• 52:15Bobby Lee?

  Where's Nora? Left.

• 52:16Speaker 05

  Nora's up at left.

• 52:17Bobby Lee?

Oh, that is Nora, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 52:18Speaker 05

Wait, who's in the top center?

• 52:20Speaker 03

  Is that Margaret?

• 52:21Speaker 06

  Yeah, I think that's Margaret.

• 52:22Speaker 05

Yeah, who's the top center, the guy with the hat?

• 52:25Bobby Lee?

  I don't know.

• 52:25Speaker 03

Is that the guy from Shogun?

• 52:26Bobby Lee?

  I think that's you, dude.

• 52:27Speaker 05

  Is that me?

• 52:28Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, I think that's you. Is it you or, you're far back right. I think maybe that's you, yeah, yeah.

• 52:32Speaker 05

None of them look like me.

• 52:34Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 52:34Speaker 05

Yeah, none of them look like me.

• 52:35Speaker 03

  I see.

• 52:36Bobby Lee?

Well, look at my, look at me, dude. Look at, zoom in at me, dude. Why do you look so tired? Why do you look so tired? I look like a fat cricket.

• 52:46Speaker 05

They don't do you justice down here, man, what's going on down here?

• 52:50Bobby Lee?

Yeah, because the internet thinks, still thinks I'm fucking fat. When I chat GPT, it's the fat version of what I want. Oh my god, that's insane.

• 53:00Speaker 05

When does that come out, American Civil War?

• 53:02Bobby Lee?

It'll never be made. A play first, and we have to, we have to write it.

• 53:05Speaker 05

We have to do it as a play. Sell the IP.

• 53:08Bobby Lee?

We have to do it as a play first. Alright, so, um, you know, um, I think that when we talk about, well, we just talked about you outed me in that way.

• 53:16Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 53:16Bobby Lee?

I, I, I think that there's some things that you're not telling that, but you know what, I'm gonna let it go. I think you're perceiving it in a weird way.

• 53:23Speaker 03

I think Daniel's right. You can be different people.

• 53:26Bobby Lee?

  And I think Daniel's right.

• 53:27Speaker 03

Yeah, and it's like, one day, the text message is, I'm gonna kill myself, like, I suck at this, and the next day, being like, you know, I'm so famous, and

• 53:38Speaker 03

  I'm Korean Elvis.

• 53:39Bobby Lee?

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 53:40Speaker 03

You know, and like, people really love me.

• 53:42Speaker 05

Actually, Korean Elvis, that was a text?

• 53:44Speaker 03

Yes, oh yeah, he's been claiming Korean Elvis for a long time.

• 53:47Speaker 05

I love it. We have merch, yeah. I love it.

• 53:50Bobby Lee?

I don't remember saying that, but I guess you're right.

• 53:52Speaker 03

But also, there's nothing wrong with that.

• 53:54Speaker 05

But who doesn't have ups and downs in this business? We all do, you know, and sometimes, you're lucky to have, like, ups every once in a while. Some people just don't even have them, you know, and they end up leaving the business.

• 54:04Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I know a lot of guys that, um, I started with, actors and comedians that, um, aren't doing so well. And I, I, I'm very grateful that, I don't know what I did, I don't know what it is, but I'm very grateful.

• 54:17Speaker 05

Yeah, cuz you and I are the same generation, Bobby. Like, how many of, how many of our friends have come and gone, you know?

• 54:23Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 54:23Speaker 05

And you're still in the game, and you're, you're, you're continuing to rise. So, yeah, you're gonna have the ups and downs, and then there's gonna be times you need assurance, like, did you really like it?

• 54:34Speaker 03

Also, you do, you do this thing where-

• 54:36Bobby Lee?

Look at me right now, dude. Before you say what you're about to say, dude, look at me right now, dude, alright? I've, I've treated you like family.

• 54:45Bobby Lee?

Let me say something about you.

• 54:46Speaker 06

  No, I know.

• 54:47Bobby Lee?

How many meals have I paid for?

• 54:49Speaker 06

  Like thousands.

• 54:50Bobby Lee?

  Right?

• 54:50Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 54:51Bobby Lee?

  I invite you to...

• 54:51Speaker 06

  Thank you.

• 54:52Bobby Lee?

  Escape rooms.

• 54:53Speaker 06

I love you and I appreciate you.

• 54:55Bobby Lee?

  Two escape rooms.

• 54:56Speaker 06

  We've done many escape rooms?

• 54:57Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 54:58Speaker 06

And you've been pissed at the end of all of them?

• 55:00Bobby Lee?

Oh, can I just say something about escape rooms? Don't do it with her or her. Yeah, Andy or there or fucking her. They're the worst to do escape rooms. Why? Because whatever I suggest, it's the wrong thing.

• 55:12Speaker 06

  No.

• 55:13Bobby Lee?

I go, "What about this thing?" They're like, "No, no, no," right?

• 55:16Speaker 06

  No, Bobby.

• 55:17Bobby Lee?

Then I feel like I'm not good.

• 55:20Speaker 06

No, but Bobby, here's the thing. You'll suggest something that we already tried like five minutes ago.

• 55:27Speaker 06

  And then like...

• 55:27Bobby Lee?

  Okay.

• 55:28Speaker 06

  And then we...

• 55:28Bobby Lee?

Remember the blocks that went into the thing or the lines? I figured that out.

• 55:32Speaker 06

Yeah, but I did that first. I put the blocks in first.

• 55:35Bobby Lee?

  Okay.

• 55:38Bobby Lee?

I'm slow. No, I'm not slow.

• 55:39Speaker 06

No, but then you get mad.

• 55:40Bobby Lee?

  I'm good.

• 55:41Speaker 06

  You get mad because...

• 55:42Bobby Lee?

Okay, say what you were gonna say before.

• 55:44Speaker 06

Okay, I think it's fun when you... I think it's fun. I like it when you do that. But when people come up to you and then we're with someone else, you'll be like, "Do you know this guy?"

• 55:55Bobby Lee?

I only do it with one guy, Dumbfounder.

• 55:59Bobby Lee?

Because Dumbfounder's so cocky, you know? "Look at me," you know what I mean? What's up? "I'm swimming in fucking," you know what I mean? "Women, you know, look at me. I'm a regular on a show now. Look at me," right? And he says, "I hip-hop too. I hip-hop too," you know what I mean? And he does all that. "I do comedy too. I do comedy too." And he's handsome. And every time I show a photo of him to a friend, they go, "Oh, he's hot," right? So when we're in Koreatown, he also claims that he's the mayor of Koreatown.

• 56:24Speaker 06

  That's true.

• 56:24Bobby Lee?

  And I argue differently.

• 56:26Speaker 06

Yeah, and then so many people are going up to you being like, "Oh, my God, Bobby Lee."

• 56:30Bobby Lee?

And then I'll always go, you know, "You're the mayor of Koreatown?" And they go, "No." And then I look and I go...

• 56:40Bobby Lee?

  It's just fun to do.

• 56:41Speaker 06

And then you say to us, you go like, you're like, "Wait till you go to Disneyland with me." That would be crazy.

• 56:52Speaker 03

Please don't cut that out. I feel so validated.

• 56:54Bobby Lee?

No, no, no. If you don't cut that out, we have issues. I never said that.

• 56:59Speaker 06

  Why?

• 56:59Bobby Lee?

I never said that. I never said that.

• 57:02Speaker 06

Like, it's crazy if we go to Disneyland.

• 57:08Speaker 05

They're your people? The people who go to Disneyland?

• 57:11Bobby Lee?

  Do you go to Disneyland?

• 57:12Speaker 05

I went with my kids, yeah, a few times.

• 57:15Bobby Lee?

  When?

• 57:16Speaker 05

I don't know, the last time was maybe 10 years ago?

• 57:19Bobby Lee?

  After Lost?

• 57:20Speaker 05

  After Lost.

• 57:21Bobby Lee?

Yeah. Do you get recognized a lot at Disneyland?

• 57:23Speaker 05

I got recognized a little bit, but not a... I wasn't... I'm not the mayor of Disneyland. I'm not the, you know...

• 57:30Bobby Lee?

I just get like, "What's up, bro?"

• 57:32Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 57:32Bobby Lee?

"Yeah, fuck yeah, dude." You're like, I just get that kind of thing, you know what I mean? That's it.

• 57:38Speaker 06

I mean, I'm excited to go to Disneyland.

• 57:39Bobby Lee?

We're not going to Disneyland, ever.

• 57:41Speaker 06

I do want to see that. I want to see, like...

• 57:44Bobby Lee?

  What if I was lying?

• 57:45Speaker 06

  People will go crazy.

• 57:46Bobby Lee?

  What if they don't?

• 57:47Speaker 06

  I don't think you are.

• 57:47Bobby Lee?

  I was just kidding.

• 57:48Speaker 06

  Oh, okay.

• 57:49Bobby Lee?

  Cut the Disneyland line.

• 57:52Bobby Lee?

Alright, so, um, so Daniel, but you still live in Hawaii?

• 57:56Speaker 05

  I do, yeah.

• 57:57Bobby Lee?

  Okay, good.

• 57:58Speaker 05

I haven't been home in a little while, I'm homesick, but, uh, yeah.

• 58:00Bobby Lee?

Well, I meant to ask you, so when you're in Korea shooting, on your off days, are there great restaurants that you'd... Like, if I went to Korea and I went, I called you and went, "Dude, what's a good place to eat?" or like, would you be able to point me the right direction?

• 58:13Speaker 05

I would definitely give you a list and make sure you show up.

• 58:16Bobby Lee?

  Yeah. Now, is the theory...

• 58:23Speaker 05

  No.

• 58:31Speaker 05

  Yes, there's great eating, there's great food, there's great nightlife, there's, you know, it's a 24-hour city.

• 58:37Bobby Lee?

But when you hear Korean people go... Because I've heard Korean people say, you know, "Koreatown Korean food rivals Korea," is that true?

• 58:46Speaker 05

It's different. It's very different. Like, what Koreans are doing with Korean food is, is modernizing it and they're evolving it, you know? And I find, like, American Korean food tends to be from a certain era of Korea, but it's not as modern as what you're seeing when you go there. Now, that's changing a little bit. I just went to a couple of restaurants this trip that, that I felt like were catching up to Korea, but like, there are food trends in Korea that, that take a while to come here.

• 59:13Bobby Lee?

There's a restaurant in LA called Dato that we go to, and that's a Korean place, and they do it a little differently. They're, even the way they put like their... To cook the meat, they use the fat to

• 59:24Speaker 06

  To spread the oil.

• 59:25Bobby Lee?

Spread the oil. They don't have kimchi, they only have gokdu, I don't know.

• 59:29Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 59:29Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 59:29Speaker 06

They have just like little sprigs of

• 59:32Bobby Lee?

But it's super fancy, it's very expensive.

• 59:34Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 59:35Bobby Lee?

When you order it, it's like you get, like it's sixty dollars, but you get like two tiny slabs.

• 59:39Speaker 05

  Yeah, it's up there.

• 59:40Speaker 06

  It's very good.

• 59:41Speaker 05

  But it's

• 59:41Bobby Lee?

  Very good though.

• 59:42Speaker 05

It's premium meat, you know, it's

• 59:43Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 59:43Speaker 05

You know, they have certified Angus right outside the door.

• 59:46Speaker 06

And they'll have like, oh, the sauce is from Korea.

• 59:48Bobby Lee?

  Mmm.

• 59:49Speaker 06

  Like, we flew it here.

• 59:50Bobby Lee?

Yeah. We went to, when we were in Dallas this weekend, we went to a Korean place

• 59:53Speaker 05

  Oh, yeah.

• 59:53Bobby Lee?

Late Saturday night, and it was like

• 59:55Speaker 06

  Was it good?

• 59:56Speaker 05

  Middle of nowhere.

• 59:57Bobby Lee?

I was in the middle of nowhere, and I was shocked by it.

• 59:59Speaker 05

  Hmm.

• 1:00:00Bobby Lee?

I, I was, I go, this is gonna be garbage. And when we went, you know, I, I was shocked by how good it was.

• 1:00:06Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 1:00:07Speaker 05

Work, I mean, you know, same with London. When I went to London, uh, doing a press tour for Lost, I went to a Korean place ironically called Jin, and it was some of the worst Korean food I'd ever had.

• 1:00:17Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 1:00:17Speaker 05

Flavorless, just, just kind of like K- Korean food for non-Koreans, you know, and, but the last time I went back to London, the food was so much better, like, everything was great.

• 1:00:28Bobby Lee?

I was just there three weeks ago, London.

• 1:00:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:00:29Bobby Lee?

I, I was there for a week, and every restaurant I went to was mind-blowing.

• 1:00:33Speaker 05

  Right?

• 1:00:33Bobby Lee?

Because the, what, what is the, um, stereotype of English food?

• 1:00:38Speaker 05

  Bland.

• 1:00:38Bobby Lee?

  Bland, boiled meats, potatoes.

• 1:00:41Speaker 06

  Bosting.

• 1:00:41Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:42Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:00:42Bobby Lee?

I found it to be the polar opposite.

• 1:00:45Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 1:00:46Bobby Lee?

High-end. And let me say something again to everyone. I did a spa there in my hotel that was like a dreamscape.

• 1:00:54Speaker 05

  Hmm.

• 1:00:54Speaker 06

  Hmm.

• 1:00:55Bobby Lee?

I was the only one down there. It was pink and green faded colors on the wall.

• 1:01:01Speaker 06

  Ooh, my favorite combo.

• 1:01:02Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, like Miami style.

• 1:01:03Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:01:04Bobby Lee?

But it was super dim, and they had this weird humming music.

• 1:01:10Speaker 05

  Certain frequencies.

• 1:01:11Bobby Lee?

Yeah, like frequencies, right? And I was sitting there by myself, it's clean, luxurious, and I was sitting there and I went, oh, I think this is the safest I've ever felt.

• 1:01:24Speaker 06

  Whoa.

• 1:01:24Bobby Lee?

I felt, anyway, I don't know why I just brought that up.

• 1:01:28Speaker 05

You want to remember a safe place.

• 1:01:30Bobby Lee?

Yeah, well, I know, sometimes you're in a moment and you go, oh, that's a lifelong moment that I'll memorize.

• 1:01:36Speaker 03

I love that for you. You're able to actually like enjoy real time, things in real time that never, you used to never be able to do that. Like be in the moment? Be in the moment.

• 1:01:46Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, that's a good thing.

• 1:01:47Speaker 03

  That's so cool.

• 1:01:47Bobby Lee?

Well, I'll be honest with you, these are new practices I'm doing because I've been miserable. So I've had to read books and really, what do you, what?

• 1:01:57Speaker 03

  I know, I'm sorry.

• 1:01:58Bobby Lee?

And really, and really just, um, and now I feel great today. I've been, so clap for that.

• 1:02:05Speaker 05

Yeah, right, I'll clap for that. Yeah. So wait a second, how long, how long did you feel miserable? I know like there was a period of your life where you felt miserable, but like, how, up to when would you say?

• 1:02:14Bobby Lee?

I was good for a couple of years and then, um, um, the last month has been kind of bad and then now I'm kind of completely out of it. You know what I mean? So it's like, you know, this too shall pass as they say.

• 1:02:25Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:02:25Bobby Lee?

  And, do you get depressed?

• 1:02:29Speaker 05

Not as much as I used to. I used to, I used to get depressed a lot.

• 1:02:32Bobby Lee?

  Really?

• 1:02:33Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:02:33Bobby Lee?

  You get anxious?

• 1:02:35Speaker 05

Yeah, sure. I'm, I feel anxious a little right now.

• 1:02:37Bobby Lee?

  Why?

• 1:02:38Speaker 05

  Not because of this.

• 1:02:38Bobby Lee?

This is a great podcast. Don't you think it's great?

• 1:02:41Speaker 05

  It's not the podcast.

• 1:02:42Bobby Lee?

It's so good, like where the rhythm is good.

• 1:02:43Speaker 03

You don't get anxious like sitting here, Bobby, ever?

• 1:02:45Bobby Lee?

Look at me right now, I'm anxious.

• 1:02:46Speaker 05

No, I, I love you guys, but I'm anxious because my show's debuting today and...

• 1:02:51Bobby Lee?

Oh, fuck, we didn't even think about that.

• 1:02:53Speaker 05

Yeah, and I wanna, I want people to watch it. I'd love people to think it's a good show and I put my heart and soul into it. So, yeah, I'm anxious.

• 1:03:00Bobby Lee?

Like, when do you get your numbers back, do you know?

• 1:03:02Speaker 05

Uh, they say like 28 days after the...

• 1:03:05Bobby Lee?

  Oh, my god.

• 1:03:07Speaker 05

  So... A month. So, yeah.

• 1:03:09Bobby Lee?

  28 days.

• 1:03:10Speaker 05

Anytime you do something you care about, you know, like you're gonna be anxious about it or you're gonna, you're gonna worry. You want, you want people to like it.

• 1:03:18Bobby Lee?

Yeah, but you know what an old friend said to me? Never live in the results.

• 1:03:22Speaker 05

  That's true.

• 1:03:23Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:23Speaker 05

But I would say that it's hard not to in our business to some degree.

• 1:03:27Bobby Lee?

  Impossible.

• 1:03:27Speaker 05

Yeah. You're not, you're not doing this podcast in a garage just for you and your friends. You know, you want. Although, no, we did this for years for our friends.

• 1:03:39Speaker 03

Yeah, I think in the beginning, it was just like a creative outlet because nothing was happening. I think for you and nothing was happening for me.

• 1:03:46Speaker 05

Yeah, nothing was happening. I will say that like you were like way ahead of the curve on the whole podcast craze, right? But you, the way you've built it also depends on how it's received now. So, you know, you're, you're aware of your numbers, aren't you? Yeah. Yeah, so it's, it's, I think it's hard in this kind of a business to not be something a little bit result oriented. But I will say like, to me, the experience of it, independent of how it does, is something that I'll always hold special, you know? Yeah, also, I, I honestly, Daniel, I would continue even if the numbers dipped.

• 1:04:23Speaker 05

You know, it's not, it's just, what else am I gonna do? But it's not, it's not about whether you would continue, it's whether or not they would let you continue. Like, and, and podcasts are different. Yeah. But for TV shows. Oh, right, right, right, right. If nobody watches it, you're getting canceled and you can't do it, you know, if you, even if you want to. Yeah. So, that's where there's a little difference. But this, this was totally homegrown and you could be homegrown again, which is. But do you think, don't you think that eventually that's what show business is leading up to, homegrown? I hope so. You want that to happen? I, I used to think that was what was happening, but now if you look at all the consolidation in the business, like all these major studios. Skydance. Buying and selling, you know, we're looking at an oligopoly. And so, again, again. What does that mean? I've never heard that. You ever play Monopoly?

• 1:05:07Speaker 05

Monopoly. Oligopoly. Yeah. You're looking at an industry that's controlled by a few mega corporations. Wow, oh, I see. And that's not good. It changes the, our prospects of where we can buy or where we can sell our projects to because there are fewer buyers that they have more control over the pipeline, more control over the product. Oh, less gatekeepers, but like if they don't like you, then you're out. Yeah.

• 1:05:37Bobby Lee?

There's gotta be a life, though, where you can do television and film outside of that system. There's gotta be some sort of way.

• 1:05:46Speaker 05

Become an AI programmer. And then you can make your own movies, and that's what's gonna happen. Eventually, the AI technology is gonna get so good that people will be able to make movies by themselves.

• 1:05:56Bobby Lee?

Wow, are you scared of that?

• 1:05:57Speaker 05

  I am.

• 1:05:58Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:58Speaker 05

Yeah, because, you know, I think about the number of people who will lose their jobs as a result of it. And I think about, I don't really think about the people as much who are successful, because what they're doing is they're licensing their likenesses in perpetuity. So you're gonna have Bruce Lee movies popping up in 20 years.

• 1:06:16Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 1:06:16Speaker 05

You know, and so the people who are already successful are going to be able to keep doing this and keep appearing in movies. But the people who are just starting in our business, who are trying to make a name for themselves, it's gonna be so much harder, because extras will all be AI. You know, under fives will all be AI, or young actors will say like, we'll get a contract in front of them from a studio saying like, we'll give you like X amount of dollars if you just give us the rights to your likeness, and we'll buy you out. And so they'll never get a chance to actually get better at what they do. You know, they talk about repetitions that you need, when the company just uses their face and puts them in a million different things.

• 1:06:56Bobby Lee?

And it's inevitable, right? That's happening.

• 1:06:58Speaker 05

  It will happen.

• 1:06:58Bobby Lee?

Oh my god, well then we're fucked.

• 1:07:00Speaker 05

  So, but that's the thing.

• 1:07:02Bobby Lee?

  We're all fucked, we're fucked!

• 1:07:02Speaker 05

I don't wanna be, you know, obviously there are other people who are doing really interesting things with AI, but right now there are no guardrails.

• 1:07:10Bobby Lee?

Yeah, but I mean, as a consumer, we went and saw Weapons this weekend, which was what a movie. Excellent.

• 1:07:18Speaker 05

  Yeah, I wanna see it.

• 1:07:19Bobby Lee?

Yeah, we walked out of there and I went, that could have been the best movie I've seen in years.

• 1:07:23Speaker 05

  Whoa.

• 1:07:23Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:07:24Bobby Lee?

  That was fun.

• 1:07:25Speaker 05

  Alright.

• 1:07:25Bobby Lee?

Yeah, and we were walking out, and in my mind, if Weapons was completely AI, would I wanna watch it? That's the thing. Would you know? Wouldn't they have to tell you?

• 1:07:37Speaker 05

But it doesn't matter what you and I think. It matters what the generation who grows up with AI thinks.

• 1:07:42Bobby Lee?

Oh my god, what the fuck you're saying? AI, I think you're right.

• 1:07:45Speaker 05

Because like, remember like, when phones came out, we were saying like, who's gonna wanna watch a movie on a phone?

• 1:07:52Speaker 05

  An iPad.

• 1:07:53Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:54Speaker 06

  With the little kitties.

• 1:07:55Speaker 05

And everyone's doing it now. So it's a generational thing. It's what you're used to.

• 1:08:00Bobby Lee?

Right. Or they're like, I don't even wanna watch real people. I like, it's better when it's AI.

• 1:08:05Speaker 05

Yeah. Or if you wanna watch your favorite influencer do an action movie, that maybe they've never acted before. That influencer can be an action star.

• 1:08:13Bobby Lee?

Yeah, wow. Do you think it's gonna bleed into comedy?

• 1:08:19Speaker 05

I think it's only a matter of time before AI understands humor.

• 1:08:23Bobby Lee?

You don't, George, you don't think? Like podcast, like, why would you wanna listen to a podcast with AI people?

• 1:08:28Speaker 05

  I have.

• 1:08:29Speaker 06

  You have?

• 1:08:30Speaker 05

Yeah, they're pretty wonky. They're pretty bad now, I'm sure. But you know, this technology grows exponentially, not geometrically. It means that like, the more people do it, the faster it grows. And so, like, I hear AI voiceovers all the time, and they're not perfect right now. But in a couple of years, they will be indistinguishable from what voiceover artists are doing.

• 1:08:51Speaker 06

And then nobody's gonna have a job.

• 1:08:54Speaker 05

The voiceover industry will be forever changed.

• 1:08:57Bobby Lee?

  What are we gonna do?

• 1:08:59Speaker 06

  I don't know.

• 1:09:00Bobby Lee?

  Fight against it?

• 1:09:01Speaker 06

  Like, start eating?

• 1:09:02Bobby Lee?

  We gotta, we gotta.

• 1:09:04Speaker 03

Become an electrician or an HVAC guy. Everyone needs to stay cool, and AI always needs.

• 1:09:11Bobby Lee?

You don't think robots are gonna be able, I hear that a lot. If you wanna be, you know, if you wanna survive, become a plumber. Robots will be able to figure out how to plow.

• 1:09:17Speaker 03

  Jean Hong told me this.

• 1:09:19Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, he doesn't know everything.

• 1:09:20Speaker 03

  He was like.

• 1:09:22Bobby Lee?

He doesn't know everything. Just stick to writing.

• 1:09:25Speaker 06

Can we like, start living off of the land again, or no?

• 1:09:28Speaker 05

Well, you know, you have to pay like, the major food industry companies to be able to live off the land.

• 1:09:35Speaker 03

I mean, living off the land is like, even in California, you think you can just go out and catch a fish? No, you need a license to do that, and they're expensive. So it's not like you can just be any old guy and be like, oh, I'm gonna go collect mussels on the beach. No, you need a license, and it's over a hundred bucks.

• 1:09:53Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 1:09:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:09:57Bobby Lee?

  Check out Butterfly.

• 1:10:00Bobby Lee?

You can't go get muscles on your own?

• 1:10:03Speaker 03

No, not in California. Everything is very, you need permits, you need your fishing license.

• 1:10:08Bobby Lee?

  It's God's land!

• 1:10:09Speaker 03

And then you need to fill out paperwork when you collect, like when I collect lobster, I have to say exactly how many lobster I take and then I have to submit that. But what if you go at night, at nighttime? That's when I go is nighttime. Yeah, okay. Yeah, but then you still have to, because if you get caught by like, um, um, if you get caught, it's like a over a thousand dollar fine. Oh wow. Yeah.

• 1:10:28Bobby Lee?

So Tom Hanks in Cast Away had to fill out a form to eat all the...

• 1:10:35Speaker 03

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, like, can we just do Cast Away? Yeah, and I mean, in different, in California, it's, you can't live, just live off the land. That's like such a fantasy.

• 1:10:45Bobby Lee?

But you can't create this, a father and son in a Lexus commercial. That looks a lot like me. That's better AI than the other one. I think this is the real one, right? Is that the real one? That's a real one, right? That's the Lexus commercial that I did with my son, and he was the lead, he's driving. Check out his other son, too. This guy is like... Who is this guy? That guy, that's AI, dude. That's a human being. He's perfect. That's the baby of our family. Really? Jackson. How old is Jackson? Twenty-three. Amazing, dude. And, um...

• 1:11:20Speaker 03

Check out Butterfly and his sons.

• 1:11:24Bobby Lee?

If you like his sons, you'll love Butterfly. Bro, bro, your sons are so handsome. Uh, they have a beautiful mom. Look at him. Look at you, dude.

• 1:11:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:11:34Bobby Lee?

  Humble.

• 1:11:35Speaker 03

  Come on.

• 1:11:35Bobby Lee?

So watch Butterfly on August... It's already passed, but it's...

• 1:11:47Bobby Lee?

Yeah. Daniel, um... You're good on the piano, man. How many years did you have lessons? I, you know, my, I used to have a teacher that used to slam the...

• 1:11:55Speaker 05

  The lid?

• 1:11:56Bobby Lee?

The lid onto my fingers, you know what I mean? Trauma. Yeah, trauma, so traumatic. So I would practice, you know what I mean?

• 1:12:01Speaker 05

  Was it an Asian teacher?

• 1:12:02Bobby Lee?

No, it was like a Russian lady.

• 1:12:04Speaker 05

  Wow.

• 1:12:04Bobby Lee?

Doing it wrong. And she slammed my fingers, you know what I mean? And, um...

• 1:12:08Speaker 05

So did it make you want to stop?

• 1:12:09Bobby Lee?

No, what I ended up doing is I just started like learning how chords work. So I don't know how to read music anymore, but I could just, I could just, you know, put chords together and create a song originally.

• 1:12:20Speaker 05

Do you do this for every show?

• 1:12:23Bobby Lee?

  I do, yeah.

• 1:12:23Speaker 05

  That's pretty good.

• 1:12:24Bobby Lee?

Yeah, I play, and when I do my special, I'm gonna incorporate music into my special at the end.

• 1:12:29Speaker 05

  Very nice.

• 1:12:30Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, play my skills.

• 1:12:31Speaker 05

  When's your special?

• 1:12:32Bobby Lee?

I shoot it in January. Well, I was in a band called Lax and Superb. This is in the early...

• 1:12:39Speaker 01

  Look at...

• 1:12:40Speaker 05

  Oh, look at that! Woo-hoo!

• 1:12:41Bobby Lee?

  I was in 1991.

• 1:12:44Speaker 05

So you might be the one that...

• 1:12:45Bobby Lee?

Why are you off? What? Well, I'm the keyboardist, dude, yeah. And that was it, Lax and Superb. There I am.

• 1:12:52Speaker 05

You're like, you're the equivalent of Johann in Linkin Park.

• 1:12:56Bobby Lee?

Yeah, that's successful. So Dan, what else do you want to promote? Because I, first of all, I thought we learned a lot on this podcast. I thought that it was so fun.

• 1:13:06Speaker 05

I always like talking to you.

• 1:13:07Bobby Lee?

Yeah, and, um, yeah. And you have anything else you want to promote?

• 1:13:13Speaker 05

Uh, I'm doing Avatar, The Last Airbender, season two and three. That's gonna drop.

• 1:13:17Bobby Lee?

  That's huge.

• 1:13:18Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:13:19Bobby Lee?

  You're busy as fuck.

• 1:13:20Speaker 05

Uh, it's good to be busy.

• 1:13:21Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:13:22Speaker 05

Like, this is what we always wanted, right?

• 1:13:24Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:13:26Speaker 05

So, yeah, so I'm doing that, and, uh...

• 1:13:28Bobby Lee?

You're evil in that, I think, right?

• 1:13:30Speaker 05

  I am.

• 1:13:30Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:13:31Speaker 05

  My true nature, finally.

• 1:13:32Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:33Speaker 05

Uh, and then people want to watch the Broadway show that I did. You can find it streaming on PBS. That's Yellowface.

• 1:13:39Bobby Lee?

  Yellowface?

• 1:13:40Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:13:40Bobby Lee?

  Wow. What's that about?

• 1:13:42Speaker 05

  Oh, it's, uh, it's a little complicated, but it's, it's...

• 1:13:45Bobby Lee?

  It's gonna be the...

• 1:13:46Speaker 05

Yeah, so like, it starts with a playwright who protests the casting of Jonathan Pryce in Miss Saigon.

• 1:13:56Speaker 05

It starts there, and he actually loses that battle. Jonathan Pryce, as you guys know, comes in to play Miss Saigon in New York, wins a Tony for it. But he, you know, he was the first to protest that kind of casting. And at first, the union said, "We support you." And then when the producer of Miss Saigon said, "Well, then I'm not bringing the show in." They changed their mind, let the show in and like pretty much kicked David Henry Huang to the curb and all the Asian protesters who were, you know, trying to fight against it. So, and his, so he starts to write a play about the experience and in the lead, he, he cast, he, he's writing for an Asian American male and as he's casting it, he mistakenly casts a white guy.

• 1:14:36Bobby Lee?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:14:39Speaker 05

And so it's a comedy about.

• 1:14:41Bobby Lee?

  Oh, that's cool.

• 1:14:42Speaker 05

About that. And then, then it starts to go into like autobiographical stories about his father. And at the end, it turns into like something of a love letter to his dad.

• 1:14:51Bobby Lee?

Oh, wow. So he wrote it. What's this guy's name?

• 1:14:55Speaker 05

David Henry Huang. Tony Award winner for M. Butterfly.

• 1:14:58Bobby Lee?

  Is he still with us?

• 1:15:00Speaker 05

  He sure is.

• 1:15:00Bobby Lee?

So, so he's, he was there?

• 1:15:02Speaker 05

  He was there.

• 1:15:03Bobby Lee?

  Oh, that's amazing.

• 1:15:03Speaker 05

Yeah, he was with me, he was like five feet away from me during the whole rehearsal process.

• 1:15:08Bobby Lee?

Wow. Yeah, I want to watch that. It's on PBS.

• 1:15:11Speaker 05

  Yeah, great performance.

• 1:15:12Bobby Lee?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go check out Yellowface.

• 1:15:14Speaker 00

  And this is pretty cool.

• 1:15:15Bobby Lee?

And you have your own shoe?

• 1:15:16Speaker 05

Oh, yeah. I have my, I just joined 1587. It's this, it's this clothing, clothing and shoe brand started by Asian American guys and, and these guys, and this shirt actually is, is one of the first designs I made for them.

• 1:15:30Bobby Lee?

  What's it called?

• 1:15:31Speaker 05

  1587.

• 1:15:31Bobby Lee?

1587, check that out if you like Korean clothing.

• 1:15:34Speaker 05

In fact, I have some shirts for you guys.

• 1:15:36Bobby Lee?

Oh, great. I wanted to check it out.

• 1:15:37Speaker 05

So like this, Bobby, I thought of you for this.

• 1:15:39Bobby Lee?

  I love that a lot.

• 1:15:40Speaker 05

This is about Korean, Korean America.

• 1:15:41Bobby Lee?

Yeah, that's cool. Oh, dope shit.

• 1:15:44Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:15:45Bobby Lee?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:45Speaker 05

If you want anything, just let me know.

• 1:15:47Bobby Lee?

  Wow.

• 1:15:47Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:15:48Bobby Lee?

Well, Daniel's doing everything, guys. He's got it all locked down. Give Daniel Dickham a round of applause. Thank you.
