Jonny Lieberman

Jonny Lieberman is back for a weird whiskey tasting at to talk about: His drive in the RUF Rodeo; why he likes certain Cadillac EVs; whether or not he would buy a Rivian again; his YouTube channel; why barrels on the ground make things taste different than barrels near the roof; getting drunk in Scotland; his feelings on fake gears in EVs; and more! • 1:27Matt Farah?

We do some science experiments with liquor and a whole lot more. Johnny Lieberman's here, let's go. It's the Smoking Tire Podcast. Hi, everybody. Welcome, welcome to a show that, wow, I mean, it was, it was gonna be five and then it was

• 1:45Speaker 01

  Perfect timing.

• 1:45Matt Farah?

Perfect timing. If you're just joining us, Zach just had to rebuild the entire board, not rebuild the, like with solder, like had to

• 1:55Speaker 01

  We engine swapped it.

• 1:56Matt Farah?

We engine swapped the studio. And so now there's one board sitting on top of another board because our thing fucking broke. And so, but we're doing a show now, on time-ish actually.

• 2:10Speaker 01

  Yeah, perfect.

• 2:11Matt Farah?

That's why you get to work early, kids. Because if you have to rebuild your whole studio, you could do your fucking show on time. Johnny's here.

• 2:20Speaker 01

  Hey.

• 2:21Matt Farah?

Johnny was at a little fucking shindig at Casa de Faro last night. Everybody was having a good time.

• 2:27Speaker 01

It was a lot of fun. It was a My big thing was Mr. Paul Kramer successfully with his new hip and cancer free.

• 2:35Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 2:36Speaker 01

  Rolled in on his wheelchair.

• 2:38Matt Farah?

This is why, listen, this is why you buy a ranch home in your 40s, because you never know.

• 2:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:45Matt Farah?

  You never know.

• 2:46Speaker 01

You saved me a trip to Orange County.

• 2:49Speaker 01

This is the real reason I showed up to the party.

• 2:50Matt Farah?

Thank you. I mean, look, for you, coming to the west side is a rare treat as well.

• 2:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:56Matt Farah?

You come to do our show, but otherwise, west side party.

• 3:01Speaker 01

It's not, you know, where you live, actually, it's weird. It's not, you're not so west side, you know, it's not like, it's not like you're telling me to like, go to like Brentwood or something like, like it's kinda, it's kinda like almost going to Zuckerman's and then it's like

• 3:12Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 3:12Speaker 01

Five minutes extra. It's not, it's not so bad.

• 3:14Matt Farah?

And, you know, ample parking, so it's, uh, it's all good.

• 3:18Speaker 01

You have the best parking situation in Los Angeles.

• 3:20Matt Farah?

We do have a good parking situation, yeah. Don't fuck it up. But yeah, here we are. Um, like many things have happened, um, since I lasted, I have a whole like list of things, but we're not talking about me today, we're talking about you.

• 3:31Speaker 01

Oh, well, we can talk about you a little.

• 3:33Matt Farah?

I gave you paper and you made a list of things that you, uh, that you wanted to talk about.

• 3:37Speaker 01

Helicopter, uh, Cars and Coffee and BIDs and then, uh, Coda and also the roof.

• 3:43Matt Farah?

Oh, well, that's where I kinda wanna start, right?

• 3:45Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 3:46Matt Farah?

We, uh, we are, we are apparently.

• 3:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:48Matt Farah?

And a fan pointed this out to me the other day that I, and I, and not, no, Zach, have you driven a Singer Classic?

• 3:57Speaker 02

  No.

• 3:57Matt Farah?

Okay, well, probably you also, Johnny, but there's not a lot of people that have driven.

• 4:02Speaker 01

  I've never driven a Singer.

• 4:02Matt Farah?

  Oh, you haven't?

• 4:03Speaker 01

  No.

• 4:03Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 4:04Speaker 01

I breakfasted with like the guy yesterday.

• 4:06Matt Farah?

Well, you should drive, you should.

• 4:08Speaker 02

  There's no choice, you really.

• 4:08Matt Farah?

You should, I recommend them. But, uh, but like, I'm one of the, I've driven all three of the new roofs.

• 4:15Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 4:15Matt Farah?

All of the current Singer offerings except Turbo DLS. So people are like DMing me.

• 4:22Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 4:22Matt Farah?

And you know, it's a DM from a random on Instagram and they're like, well, this or this. And I like roll my eyes and I'm like.

• 4:30Speaker 01

  Just get both.

• 4:30Matt Farah?

And he's like, no, no, really, I, I am actually like, I could get them and like, you're the only person I know could think of who's driven them. So it's kind of interesting place, but we both drove the Roof Rodeo.

• 4:39Speaker 01

Yeah. And by the way, I have driven the, uh, coupe, uh, whatever they're calling it, Speedster and Turbo Gunther.

• 4:46Matt Farah?

  Oh yeah, those two.

• 4:47Speaker 01

I've driven the roof SCR, so the naturally aspirated. I've driven the rodeo and I drove the new air cooled one, the true. I haven't driven the turbo turbo.

• 4:56Matt Farah?

Yeah, we didn't, we drove the crazy one. And we did not get to do the air cooled one.

• 5:01Speaker 01

  Air cooled is like.

• 5:03Matt Farah?

  I heard it's real cool.

• 5:04Speaker 01

It's, it's just like, they're just geniuses, that company like, like, let's do an air cooled with a seven speed. But you can put it in seventh gear at 30 miles an hour and it pulls because it's roof.

• 5:15Matt Farah?

  That's crazy.

• 5:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:16Matt Farah?

Um, uh, we'll come back to that one. But we both drove rodeo last week and Zach also drove rodeo last week.

• 5:22Speaker 01

Oh, so we're the only three journalists that have driven it.

• 5:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 5:25Speaker 01

That's, I mean, literally they, they said, cause I asked, I'm like, hey, you know, uh, Mr. Roof told me the car's going to be in LA for a week. Could I drive it? It's like afterward and they came back and they're like, it was actually the tribute. I want to drive the air cooled one for like a video. And they're like, you know, that car is not running perfect, but you and Matt are the only ones who are allowed to drive the rodeo. And I was like, really? Yeah. But Estonia says you have to take it off road. You can't just drive it.

• 5:50Matt Farah?

Well, that was good because I, they asked if I wanted to drive it and I said, only if I can drive it, not like a bitch.

• 5:56Speaker 01

  Right.

• 5:56Matt Farah?

And they were like, yeah, okay. And they were down, like they were totally down. So, uh, it was, uh, these, these little static photos that I posted on my Instagram. I don't think quite do, uh, the justice to the car, but it's 610 horsepower, uh, with a, a selectable all wheel drive system. The, the carbon tub, uh, that roof is doing.

• 6:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:16Matt Farah?

  Wider body, long travel. Um, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a good time.

• 6:23Speaker 01

It's, it's, I, I described it as a million dollar off road handful. Um, because did you, did you experience the, uh, snap, uh, lift off, I should say oversteer?

• 6:32Matt Farah?

Yes, which I did. I then, once I found it the first time, I went, oh, I'm now going to do this over and over and over and over again. So nothing rotates like a rodeo.

• 6:44Speaker 01

Nothing. So, so, okay, so you know, you've all grown up listening how the 930 was the Widowmaker because it had lift off oversteer. Well, this is the same size car. It weighs less. It has more than double the power.

• 6:58Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 6:58Speaker 01

And it has the softest springs of any Porsche ever built. And so, or Porsche like thing. And so when you lift off at a good clip, the rear comes out. Now, the weird part is if you leave the traction control on, it yaws about 30 degrees and then corrects itself.

• 7:14Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 7:15Speaker 01

But it moves you over four feet to the left.

• 7:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 7:17Speaker 01

So you gotta make sure traction control's off.

• 7:20Matt Farah?

I found off was way better.

• 7:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:23Matt Farah?

  Off is the move.

• 7:24Speaker 01

For safety. It's much safer to not have any traction. Yeah.

• 7:26Matt Farah?

Actually, the, um, the SCR has a pretty interesting traction control system, as does the CTR. But like this, with this off is the way.

• 7:34Speaker 01

  You have to be off.

• 7:35Matt Farah?

But yeah, if you're not ready for the lift off oversteer, this would, this car would be terrifying.

• 7:41Speaker 01

I, it was funny because I, I had driven it, so I knew it was doing it. And then Rylik was in the car filming. It's my partner in my YouTube channel. And the first time it happened, like I was, I just kept driving because I knew it was gonna happen. He just looked at me like,

• 7:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 7:55Speaker 01

Bro. I was like, no, no, it's fine. It's fine.

• 7:57Matt Farah?

We found a closed section of paved road as well as a good section of gravel.

• 8:03Speaker 01

  Oh, fun.

• 8:04Matt Farah?

And there, this car is incredibly easy to drift on tarmac.

• 8:10Speaker 01

Ah, yeah, I bet it is.

• 8:11Matt Farah?

Yes, it is. And I had my friend in from out of town and it was take your old friend to work day. And he was white after a five minute ride in this thing. Um, the, the, and all, even in a straight line, forget, forget that because that is very exciting. And once you understand how that works and how to control it, it becomes the car's greatest asset, in my opinion.

• 8:35Speaker 01

  Yeah, totally. Hundred percent.

• 8:36Matt Farah?

It's like the Storato. It's, the Storato does the same thing.

• 8:38Speaker 01

It's what the Storato should have been with the ground clearance and the softness.

• 8:42Matt Farah?

Sure. But in terms of like the way, how you do the Break, flick, smash, catch.

• 8:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:49Matt Farah?

  Straight.

• 8:49Speaker 01

  Right, right, right.

• 8:50Matt Farah?

  It's that.

• 8:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:50Matt Farah?

Um, but even more exaggerated, uh, and especially because it's stick shift. Like when, when Zach drove it and I, you know, you feel it in the car, but you really see it. When he does like a three gear pull. Wah, wah. So fun.

• 9:03Speaker 01

It's like a, it's like, it's like the Hummer EV mixed with, I didn't get to drive it. I got a ride in it, but the, the, the Canapa nine, five, nine SC.

• 9:11Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:12Speaker 01

Cause now it's 815 horsepower and it's, you know, shock technology from the eighties. So when you floor it, you're just, the nose just goes in the air. But then on the roof, it just, when you hit the brakes, it dips forward.

• 9:22Matt Farah?

  It does the other thing.

• 9:23Speaker 01

Power. Yeah. It's a, it also reminds me of, uh, do you remember the Juke R?

• 9:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 9:28Speaker 01

So the Juke R kinda was like, like short wheelbase, too much power and it kinda bobbled around.

• 9:33Matt Farah?

  Also the best car ever.

• 9:35Speaker 01

  It kind of was.

• 9:35Matt Farah?

  The Juke R really was.

• 9:36Speaker 01

They, they, you know, I didn't even knew about it. They made a Juke R point two. Did you ever experience that? It was just, it was like the Nismo power plant.

• 9:44Matt Farah?

  Oh, okay.

• 9:45Speaker 01

So it was like, you know, it was only legal in like Dubai or something.

• 9:48Matt Farah?

  Eight of those, right?

• 9:49Speaker 01

No, they made more than that.

• 9:50Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 9:51Speaker 01

Zach, look it up, Zach, but they made more, but then they made a second gen, which I never drove, but apparently it was even better.

• 9:57Matt Farah?

Cause I would definitely still like, if I was that, if I was into GTRs, I would pay, you know, one of AMS or one of these shops.

• 10:05Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 10:05Matt Farah?

  Build me.

• 10:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, exactly.

• 10:07Matt Farah?

Cause you, I wouldn't, cause the real one would also be like very collectible.

• 10:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:11Matt Farah?

I want, I would want one that you, that would be disposable.

• 10:14Speaker 01

And I think the first one was like 465 horsepower and then the 2.0.

• 10:19Matt Farah?

  Horsepower.

• 10:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:20Matt Farah?

  Kick ass.

• 10:21Speaker 01

Yeah. So it got the Nismo power plant. So.

• 10:24Matt Farah?

  Sweet.

• 10:25Speaker 01

I thought the Juke R was one of the greatest cars I ever drove.

• 10:27Matt Farah?

  I never drove one.

• 10:29Speaker 01

Oh, I drove it. Oh, it was.

• 10:30Matt Farah?

Is it like what, what you'd want it to be?

• 10:32Speaker 01

It was like driving, I think I described it like driving a pinball. Cause it's just like, it's just was so little.

• 10:38Matt Farah?

  That is very good.

• 10:39Speaker 01

And just changed direction so fast. Cause it was a GT R with a short wheelbase and, but because it was up high, it just was like more tippy, which I like cars to do that.

• 10:48Matt Farah?

Yeah, I like body, I like body roll.

• 10:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 10:51Speaker 01

It's cool. You can now engineer it out. That's very neat. It's a neat hydraulic.

• 10:55Matt Farah?

  Like trick.

• 10:56Speaker 01

  But.

• 10:56Matt Farah?

  Please don't.

• 10:57Speaker 01

Yeah, but like, like the rodeo was just, it was so fun.

• 11:00Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 11:00Speaker 01

And that's why I like the Hummer EV to me is just like a joyride because I don't know if you, I've told you this or you did it, but like at night, if you floor the Hummer EV, you do what the fuck mode? You can't see because the headlights are pointing towards the sky. You have two seconds of, you cannot see what you're rocketing towards. It's so.

• 11:16Matt Farah?

  Safe.

• 11:18Speaker 01

Safe, safe, you know, it's so great.

• 11:20Matt Farah?

  Oh, boy.

• 11:21Speaker 01

Yeah, so rodeo thumbs up. I really enjoyed it.

• 11:24Matt Farah?

If you, if you put the suspension in sport stiff, the stiffer mode, it does that a little less, but like not that.

• 11:32Speaker 01

I didn't, you know what? I kept hitting it. It wasn't like, it didn't seem like it was doing anything.

• 11:36Matt Farah?

Does it like a little less, but like not really.

• 11:39Speaker 01

But also like, again, roof, they come up with their own all wheel drive system.

• 11:44Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 11:44Speaker 01

That like, you can like drag it to select where you want it or pop it in auto. It's insane. Like we're an insane company.

• 11:51Matt Farah?

And rear wheel drive is a, is the good, is a good mode.

• 11:55Speaker 01

It's the only way to go.

• 11:56Matt Farah?

Um, is exceptional. Um, I actually really, and even this orange car, the interior with the, like the Navajo blanket.

• 12:04Speaker 01

You know, that's like Ralph Lauren inspired, right?

• 12:06Matt Farah?

I do know. It was, yes. Um, and, and, uh, the double RL, uh, leather and all that, I think it's double RL leather is really, really nice, the touch.

• 12:16Speaker 01

So the, the, the giant stitching was, that's like a nod to Freeman Thomas. So Freeman, obviously.

• 12:22Matt Farah?

  Maybe.

• 12:23Speaker 01

All the, uh, since 2017, every roof has been designed by Freeman. And so, yeah.

• 12:29Matt Farah?

The giant stitching is the Audi baseball stitch almost that somebody has in their own car downstairs.

• 12:35Speaker 01

  That's very true. So, yeah.

• 12:36Matt Farah?

The only thing I don't, there's two things I don't like about this car.

• 12:39Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 12:40Matt Farah?

  One, the electric AC sucks.

• 12:41Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 12:42Matt Farah?

It's all, in all roofs, it sucks. It just does.

• 12:45Speaker 01

Cause in Germany, you don't need it the way we need it here. Yeah.

• 12:48Matt Farah?

And it was the same with that Totem GT thing. It used the same unit and it sucked in that thing too.

• 12:52Speaker 01

I, I just had that Miquel's car with the same unit and it sucks.

• 12:55Matt Farah?

Yeah. So that sucks. And the steering wheel isn't adjustable.

• 13:00Speaker 01

  Ah.

• 13:00Matt Farah?

And, and it just drives me nuts. It's too far away.

• 13:05Speaker 01

I, yeah, I'm, I, I, it's probably bad, but I like to have steering those far away. So I thought it was great, but yeah, it should be adjusted.

• 13:12Matt Farah?

  If it, if it.

• 13:12Speaker 01

  For 1.25 million.

• 13:14Matt Farah?

If you're, and if you're starting from, you're starting from scratch. Like you didn't ha, you didn't have to make it that way. But maybe they did, like, maybe Eloisa is gonna email me later and go, hey, Nick, we did have to make it this way. And maybe that's true, but like, I don't know. It, it, for me, it's, it's not in the right place and I can't make it in the right place. And that is a bummer and it's the only bummer about this entire line of cars from this.

• 13:39Speaker 01

  They're all like that?

• 13:40Matt Farah?

They're all like that. It's not just the rodeo.

• 13:42Speaker 01

I think whatever shape I happen to weirdly be, I'm this, I'm like the buck they design cars around. Cause I just fit in everything.

• 13:48Matt Farah?

You would not, you wouldn't, the SCR that we drove, you wouldn't have fit in. It was designed for a small person.

• 13:54Speaker 01

  Ah, okay.

• 13:54Matt Farah?

And we did not, neither Zach, I didn't fit in it, which is normal.

• 13:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 13:59Speaker 02

Also, the angle of the seat was odd.

• 14:01Matt Farah?

It needed to be set up for him, I think.

• 14:04Speaker 02

  Okay, maybe.

• 14:04Matt Farah?

I don't know, but it just wasn't quite right.

• 14:06Speaker 01

  Back to the interior.

• 14:07Matt Farah?

These were much more comfortable, the ones in this rodeo.

• 14:09Speaker 02

  Very true.

• 14:10Matt Farah?

Were the larger size or whatever, and they were sat right, they were great.

• 14:14Speaker 01

But this shot's awesome, if you're, if you're following along on the video, because everyone's gonna look at the Navajo blankets and, and all that. But who cares? Look down, look at the carbon fiber of the tub poking through. I thought that was such a flex, like to have.

• 14:28Speaker 02

  I agree.

• 14:28Matt Farah?

  You have both.

• 14:29Speaker 01

All this blankets, but really the money is in the carbon fiber tub.

• 14:32Speaker 02

You have to show that, you know?

• 14:33Speaker 01

It's so cool. It was so cool. I just loved it.

• 14:36Matt Farah?

The totem GT, uh, super GT also did that same effect with these like big swaths of leather and houndstooth. But then the tub peaks through around the edges of the floor mats and shit. I'm like, that's, that's a dope detail.

• 14:49Speaker 01

It's not Pagani OCD carbon fiber. It just looks like industrial carbon fiber, which is so cool.

• 14:56Matt Farah?

  It's not super glossy.

• 14:57Speaker 01

And, and it's also not super book matched and all that nonsense. It's just, it, it looks like, you know, like, like you went to the carbon fiber factory and got carbon fiber. It's just, I, I love it.

• 15:06Matt Farah?

Yeah. These, this, these cars really kick ass. And I have, uh, I have a client here at the store who owns a, uh, twin turbo one, um, an anniversary.

• 15:18Matt Farah?

And owns all of the blue chip Porsches, all the good stuff. And he says it's his favorite to drive.

• 15:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:26Matt Farah?

And I believe it. It's a nasty, nasty little thing.

• 15:29Speaker 01

I drove that SCR a couple of years ago that was at the Quail and it was, I mean, it was, first of all, it was just phenomenal. It was that oak green one, just phenomenal to drive, like everything was perfect. And I remember I was getting a little, not teary, but like, you know, I've been reading about Rough Yellow Bird since 1987 or whatever and like, you know, so we're going. Alawas in the seat next to me and I'm kind of having a moment. I do like, you know, the third to fourth shift, like flat, like, you know, whatever that is, like 120 miles an hour.

• 16:02Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 16:02Speaker 01

It makes a great noise. And I'm like, I look at him like, you know, I've been waiting 33 years for this moment. And he goes, "Yeah, we call that the screaming orgasm."

• 16:14Matt Farah?

Guys, we gotta take a quick break from the action because support is coming in hot from Quince. These cooler temperatures are rolling in and as always, Quince is where I'm gonna turn for fall staples that last. From cashmere to denim to boots, the quality holds up and the price still blows me away. They've got all kinds of fall staples you're wearing nonstop, like a super soft 100% Mongolian cashmere sweater, starting at just 60 bucks. You best believe I am getting one of those. The denim is durable and fits right and their real leather jackets bring that clean, classic edge without the elevated price tag. What makes Quince different? Well, they partner directly with ethical factories and skip the middlemen, so you

• 16:57Matt Farah?

get top-tier fabrics and craftsmanship at half the price of similar brands. I haven't tried the Mongolian cashmere sweater yet because it's still 80 degrees every day here in LA, but I've got their linen products from the summer and I am in fact impressed. I have linen shirts from at least six or seven different brands. The Quince ones were the most affordable and they have held up to multiple normal cycle washes, travel, and they are in the running for most worn linen shirts of the summer. They're really gonna become a go-to for me across the board. And you bet you I'm getting one of those Mongolian sweaters. So keep it classic and cool this fall.

• 17:38Matt Farah?

Or if it's still summer where you live, grab them linens with long-lasting staples from Quince. Go to quince.com/tire for free shipping on your order and 365-day returns. Look, I have been in therapy for over 20 years, probably 25 years, actually. Most of it's been in person, some of it's been online. I actually find the benefits are about the same, one or the other. But here's the problem. Finding a therapist is always the problem.

• 18:23Matt Farah?

My, my current therapist is in his 70s and I'm dreading the day I have to find a new one. If you're starting from scratch, you don't know where to turn. And then, once you find one, finding one that takes your insurance is gonna be tough, right? But Rula makes sure it does, right? That's really important because if therapy is an ongoing thing, you have to keep doing it for a while. It's not like seeing a doctor once. And if, if your insurance doesn't cover it, it can get crazy expensive. But Rula, they do it differently. They partner with over 100 insurance plans, making the average copay just 15 bucks a session. It's real therapy from licensed professionals at a price that makes sense. Your insurance benefits will cover your physical health.

• 19:05Matt Farah?

So in this case, they should absolutely do the same for your mental health. The experience is tailored around you, right? Rula considers your goals, preferences, and background and provides you with a curated list of licensed in-network therapists who are actually aligned with what you need and available for booking. It's all in one system. And then, Rula sticks with you throughout your journey, checking in to make sure your care is helping you move forward. So go to rula.com/tire. That's R-U-L-A dot com slash tire. R-U-L-A dot com slash tire for quality therapy that is covered by your insurance. Now, back to the show. I was by myself for that moment and it was in Bruce's Yellowbird.

• 19:50Speaker 01

  Oh, that's a real yellowbird.

• 19:51Matt Farah?

Shout out to Uncle B. Uncle B hooked up your boy here and Bruce Meyer did a little treat for me and I got to have a real go on Upper Big Tahunga and it was the right road for that particular vehicle.

• 20:07Speaker 01

So, we've talked about this before, but Matt and I have this thing of like Bigfooting each other like, and I had two Chiron.

• 20:13Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah.

• 20:14Speaker 01

And the only way to beat two Chiron's is with one OG first Yellowbird, right? That's the only way. There's no other car.

• 20:25Matt Farah?

We're sitting on the side of the road setting up cameras and like, oh, is that Johnny and two Bugattis?

• 20:32Speaker 01

Yeah, and I was just like, oh, man, you win. And it was hysterical because even the Bugatti people were like, is that a Yellowbird?

• 20:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah, Jamie's like, dude.

• 20:43Speaker 01

And then, we're literally supposed to be talking about the Chiron and we're just talking about Yellowbird.

• 20:47Matt Farah?

Yeah, that car was, that car fucks you up. That car's way too good. I understand why they are millions of dollars.

• 20:53Speaker 01

Six million dollars, right? That one just sold?

• 20:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:56Speaker 01

  I think.

• 20:57Matt Farah?

I think six was the highest, the most recent one, I don't think.

• 21:00Speaker 01

Didn't one just hit auction like recently?

• 21:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, but it didn't get that number, but it wasn't a very good color. It was, it was like dark red, like, like, like, dark red with like chrome window trim. Like, it's a real Yellowbird, but it was like not the best color. It wasn't yellow or black.

• 21:16Speaker 01

Somebody went and got that one painted black.

• 21:18Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 21:19Speaker 01

And then the frickin' rodeo, which was at the Quail, that's not the orange one, was a customer car, black.

• 21:24Matt Farah?

I was not personally a fan of the rodeo in the black, white, Ken Block Hoonigan scheme. That didn't, that didn't do it for me at all.

• 21:33Speaker 01

Yeah, we, Paul, me and Marco had a whole conversation about that where they were like, well, that's what the client wanted and like.

• 21:38Matt Farah?

Well, fine, I'm not saying they should have said no, it just, that car doesn't do it in black.

• 21:43Speaker 01

They say, next, we're gonna do another one for the Quail and you can wait, and like, but they don't realize who they are, you know, they're just like this happy family like, we build fun cars, or like, you could say, no, you're not getting black, sir. You can wait.

• 21:55Matt Farah?

You can get black or showing the bright green one on the lawn.

• 21:58Speaker 01

  Whatever, yeah, exactly.

• 21:59Matt Farah?

Do you wanna, uh, do you wanna do some science?

• 22:02Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 22:03Matt Farah?

Zach, do you wanna do some science?

• 22:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:05Matt Farah?

A little bit of science? So, um, a fan, I forget, did he want me to, I think he want, he said I could use his name.

• 22:12Matt Farah?

Yeah, a fan named Andrew, um, works at the, uh, the, uh, independent stave company.

• 22:22Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 22:22Matt Farah?

He's the director of whiskey research and innovation, which is, that's a fucking job title.

• 22:28Speaker 01

  Good title.

• 22:29Matt Farah?

  Imagine being at a bar.

• 22:32Speaker 01

  What do you know?

• 22:35Matt Farah?

And you were the director of whiskey research innovation. That's a fucking kick ass job.

• 22:39Speaker 01

  I like this.

• 22:40Matt Farah?

And he goes, I think you might like what I do all day, which is whiskey science. And I, and he sent me some experiments, some tasting experiments for us to try. And I've saved them for, since May, for you to come back and for us to try them. So we have three different whiskey tasting experiments. And, uh, and we can talk about some other things while we try them. But experiment one is the same whiskey aged in barrels with different char levels. It's a six year old bourbon.

• 23:12Speaker 01

  Perfect. This is fun.

• 23:13Matt Farah?

And we have a six, uh, yeah, char level one versus char level four.

• 23:19Speaker 01

Oh, oh, it's gonna be a big difference.

• 23:21Matt Farah?

It's a big difference. Okay, so we'll start with one.

• 23:23Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 23:24Matt Farah?

And we'll just have a little sip ski here.

• 23:26Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 23:29Matt Farah?

  Quick.

• 23:30Speaker 01

  So.

• 23:30Matt Farah?

This might be interesting. Okay, here we go.

• 23:32Speaker 01

  So I'll just.

• 23:33Matt Farah?

Fortunately, that's about half of this one, so I might be able to do this again with someone else later.

• 23:38Speaker 01

So always bears repeating, but, uh, bourbon, uh, legally has to be made in the United States. So you could make bourbon in Hawaii if you wanted to.

• 23:46Matt Farah?

  Someone should.

• 23:47Speaker 01

Has to be 51% corn, uh, has to be aged a minimum, I want to say of three years. Has to go into a virgin, what, not white oak, but virgin oak barrel that has some degree of char. And, uh, has to enter at between 100 and 120 proof. So you can't just dump firewater in there, but that's legally what makes a bourbon, a bourbon.

• 24:09Speaker 01

And so this char level, just nosing right now, so it's gonna be, probably make it sweeter.

• 24:17Matt Farah?

More char will make it sweeter.

• 24:19Speaker 01

No, less, I think less char would make it sweeter, it would be more, like maybe more vanilla and less oaky flavor.

• 24:27Matt Farah?

Okay, I do taste vanilla in this.

• 24:30Speaker 01

  I'm just smelling it. Vanilla.

• 24:33Matt Farah?

  It's like, kinda strong.

• 24:34Speaker 02

  It is.

• 24:35Speaker 01

Six year could, yeah, I mean, again, it could have entered the barrel at 120 proof and then as, not always 100%, but as bourbon sits in barrels, the water evaporates a little bit and so it kind of, it goes through a second distillation.

• 24:48Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 24:48Speaker 01

And so you can increase the proof, that's a way to.

• 24:50Matt Farah?

I assume all of these are barrel, barrel proof stuff.

• 24:54Speaker 01

Better be barrel proof. Mr. Director of Innovation.

• 25:00Matt Farah?

  Alright, not bad.

• 25:04Speaker 01

Oh, that's lovely. Oh, I like that a lot.

• 25:07Matt Farah?

  It's, it's, it's hot, it's hot.

• 25:09Speaker 01

It's hot, I don't mind the hot, but I liked, I liked, this is great, you guys don't have any fucking ice cubes, I love this. This is great.

• 25:16Matt Farah?

But we're doing science, so I don't wanna water it down either.

• 25:19Speaker 01

  Can't water, no.

• 25:20Speaker 02

  Just to piss Johnny off.

• 25:22Matt Farah?

Should I do a glass rinse? Quick glass rinse?

• 25:24Speaker 01

You could, you probably, look, he's using, he has a never ending supply of new glasses, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 25:30Speaker 02

I'm just gonna lick the glass clean all the way to the bottom.

• 25:33Matt Farah?

• 28:55Speaker 01

Yeah, so this is the same.

• 28:57Matt Farah?

  Can we taste the difference?

• 28:58Speaker 01

So there was the same whiskey goes into two different barrels. Yeah, one is a four, one's a one. Yep.

• 29:04Matt Farah?

So this is more char. So what kind of flavors are more char? I don't want to, well, are you putting in our head?

• 29:09Speaker 01

No, yeah, exactly. To smell it and taste it first and I'll give you my, not expert opinion, but I just, I've spent a lot of time at the.

• 29:16Matt Farah?

Really smells different. It smells way different.

• 29:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, so.

• 29:22Matt Farah?

Little more like a campfire. I mean, literally more like char.

• 29:27Matt Farah?

  And less sugar.

• 29:28Speaker 02

  Less syrup.

• 29:28Speaker 01

So the vanilla flavor in bourbon kind of comes out of the wood, out of the oak. Um, and you also get wood out of the, you know, the oak flavors. I think more char, I think would give you more oak flavor.

• 29:42Speaker 02

Isn't that part of why Chardonnay has so much like vanilla flavoring as the oak it sits in?

• 29:46Speaker 01

American Chardonnay, yeah. They let it sit too long.

• 29:49Matt Farah?

Did you taste this yet? Can I just say for the record, fuck, that's delicious. Like that, that is a fabulously delicious bourbon.

• 30:00Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 30:01Matt Farah?

Whatever this is, that exceptionally good.

• 30:04Speaker 01

There's still plenty of vanilla, but there's also like a cinnamony kind of thing. Um, and um, oh, that's, that's, that's damn good. That's also like icing.

• 30:14Matt Farah?

Oh, baby. Get me a fucking bottle of Char IV.

• 30:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:18Matt Farah?

  Let's go.

• 30:19Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Like a little, it's almost like instead of like vanilla extract, it's like vanilla icing. There's a real level of, of.

• 30:25Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like a rich, like a richer, like a thicker vanilla. Wow. Fuck, that's good. Wow. Okay.

• 30:32Speaker 01

So this is, this is great because A, you're experiencing it. B, uh, like, once in a while, I'll get like a five or six year old bottle that is like of this quality. And it's like, how did they do this?

• 30:43Matt Farah?

And it's the char, the char. Wow.

• 30:46Speaker 01

But it's also gambling because remember the way it works is they're like, well, we got these barrels. Well, let's see what happens. Wait six years. Oh, it's really good. Or, eh, it's okay.

• 30:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 30:55Speaker 01

  You know, so.

• 30:56Matt Farah?

Well, this one, God, is that a winner?

• 30:59Speaker 01

  That's so super good.

• 31:00Matt Farah?

Fuck. Uh, you know what got me real excited, uh, the other day?

• 31:03Speaker 01

Zach's like struggling over there. He's like.

• 31:05Matt Farah?

  I saw, uh.

• 31:06Speaker 02

He's hitting the back of the throat pretty hard.

• 31:07Speaker 01

That's what it's all about. What's all about. It's what it's all about.

• 31:11Speaker 02

  That's what you guys love.

• 31:12Matt Farah?

Uh, I heard about a Porsche Cayenne prototype that has synthetic gears, an EV prototype.

• 31:18Speaker 02

  Yeah, someone posted about it.

• 31:19Matt Farah?

  It's a Cayenne, not a fucking Cayman.

• 31:22Speaker 02

  They're headed there though.

• 31:23Matt Farah?

But somebody at Porsche is trying it and.

• 31:25Speaker 01

You guys like those synthetic gears.

• 31:27Speaker 02

I think it's better than no gears.

• 31:28Matt Farah?

I think it gives you, I, I think giving people, not, not for the Cayenne. I don't give a shit about the Cayenne having gears. I care about the new Cayman having synthetic gears. It's more fun.

• 31:40Speaker 01

  I don't like it.

• 31:40Matt Farah?

And what I care about ultimately is not just synthetic gears. Synthetic gears is the stepping stone to downloadable car packs. What I, what I want is my EV Cayman to mimic the power to weight, gear ratios, et cetera, of a 550 Spider today.

• 31:58Speaker 02

Yeah, cause you need the gears. Otherwise, you're, otherwise you're gonna sound like you're always in sixth.

• 32:01Matt Farah?

Yeah. I want, I want the ratios to change with the car pack.

• 32:05Speaker 01

I don't want any sound except for the sound of the motors. I just don't want any sound.

• 32:10Matt Farah?

Uh, that's fine. You can do that.

• 32:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, right, right.

• 32:12Matt Farah?

Any car that comes with that shit, you can always turn it all off.

• 32:15Speaker 01

I just, you know, I had, uh, uh, last year, uh, this gentleman named Andy Pruinger, um. I let him drive my Rivian.

• 32:23Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 32:23Speaker 01

And it was hysterical because he was bitching and moaning about all the EV stuff and like and he drives the Rivian around. He's like, why didn't we do this? He's like, this, it just, it just sounds like what it is. There's no fake noise. And I go, yeah, it's, that's why it's really good. And he's like, and he's a big truck guy, you know, he's a redneck.

• 32:40Matt Farah?

Doesn't he have a fucking Ram?

• 32:41Speaker 01

Ram. He drives a Ram around Germany. And I think he was saying he wants to move to Montana and like fly fast when he retires.

• 32:47Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 32:47Speaker 01

But he was just like, he's like, this is great. I go, yeah, that's great.

• 32:50Matt Farah?

I, I don't agree with all EV things, but, but all EV choices like that went into my, the fucking Taycan I've got. But I do think that for EV, if you're gonna try to sell people on EV sports cars, giving them more ways to engage with the machine is better.

• 33:11Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 33:12Matt Farah?

They don't have to use them all the time, but it's, if it's just software and a couple fucking paddles on the steering wheel and whatever.

• 33:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:19Matt Farah?

Give it to them. It's more fun.

• 33:21Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I, I believe a disagreement because I, I drove the Ioniq 5N and I was, well, first of all, it's like, you sampled a, a Laundra N motor? That's the best you could do?

• 33:30Matt Farah?

Oh, yeah. Well, that's the best Hyundai can do, but Porsche can take the concept and do a lot better.

• 33:35Speaker 01

I agree, but also you're, you're pumping it out of a $45,000 Ioniq speakers. So like, it's just kinda.

• 33:41Matt Farah?

  Again.

• 33:41Speaker 01

Porsche can burn my spirit up.

• 33:43Matt Farah?

The sound isn't great. What's important about the sound is it accurately represents what you're doing with the car.

• 33:49Speaker 01

Right. But also I just turned everything off and just had no fake gears. I'm like, this thing's pretty good. I, I didn't think it was, I didn't think it was the greatest driving experience, but I was like, I liked it much better without the gears, without the noises, like just.

• 34:00Matt Farah?

Well, you'd be happy to know that at the New York safety track, it's two seconds a lap quicker with the gears off.

• 34:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, of course. Yeah.

• 34:08Matt Farah?

It also doesn't give you full power with the gears, right? Because it.

• 34:11Speaker 01

Oh, it doesn't? I have, no, I didn't go on the launch. I.

• 34:13Matt Farah?

No, because if you, if you're using the gears, it builds torque as if it's a gasoline car. Whereas if it's off, it's just full kill all the time.

• 34:21Speaker 01

I just like, I like EVs because it's like, you just have all this, like, I, I drove here in this Cadillac Vistic, which is like, you know, it's about 80% of the way there. It's pretty good.

• 34:31Matt Farah?

Is it bigger or smaller than a Lyric?

• 34:33Speaker 01

  It's bigger, it's a three row.

• 34:35Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 34:35Speaker 01

It replaces the totally awful XT6, which made me really-

• 34:39Matt Farah?

That was a thing still, wasn't it?

• 34:40Speaker 01

It really made me question, why does GM exist? When I showed the, why did we save them as a country? Cause it was just such a bad vehicle. It really, it was just, and the powertrain was the worst part. It just was like a soulless, gutless 3.6 liter V6.

• 34:54Matt Farah?

Yeah, I didn't even know they still made it to be honest with you.

• 34:57Speaker 01

I don't know if they still do, but, but, um, and it was funny, I put a thing up, I said, do you guys even care about? Cause I asked Cadillac for some cars and they dropped this off, I didn't ask for it. I'm like, you guys want a video of this? And like, it's like ninety, over 90% of the responses were like, hell yeah.

• 35:09Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 35:10Speaker 01

And, um, what, what, what I like about it, uh, one of the things I like about it is that, you know, at the end of the day, it's 615 horsepower, 650 pound-feet of torque. It hits 60 in 4.3 seconds and like, no one who owns it will ever do that. But it's there if you want it. And like, there's no gears, there's no noise, it's just, just very nice luxury thing. But it's got that, you know, it does the EV thing when you need it, you know? So it's, it's, uh, I just like, I don't, I don't need the fake gears. Like it's, it, I always get back to-

• 35:40Matt Farah?

I wouldn't need it in a fucking crossover.

• 35:43Speaker 01

  No, you really wouldn't.

• 35:44Matt Farah?

I only care about this shit in sport. I don't even wish my Taycan had it.

• 35:48Speaker 01

  Right.

• 35:48Matt Farah?

  I just, in sports cars.

• 35:50Speaker 01

Alright. I haven't got, I, the only electric sports car I've really ever driven was the Batista, the 2000 horse.

• 35:57Matt Farah?

That would, that would do perfect in that.

• 35:59Speaker 01

I loved it, I just, that, that's what-

• 36:00Matt Farah?

That car would be much more fun if it had effective fucking fake gears. It really would, that car, I didn't, I drove the, the Remac.

• 36:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:08Matt Farah?

  Same shit.

• 36:09Speaker 01

  Yeah, same shit, yeah, literally.

• 36:11Matt Farah?

And when you're being a complete fucking maniac.

• 36:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:15Matt Farah?

  It was amazing.

• 36:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:16Matt Farah?

And when you're driving like a normal human being, it's a snooze fest.

• 36:20Speaker 01

Well, so the, the Batista, what's nice about it is it has a much more of an interior and it's like a little softer, you know? It's not, cause they're not trying to get all, every speed record. And it was like-

• 36:30Matt Farah?

That wasn't the reason I was saying that about the Remac.

• 36:33Speaker 01

Well, I was just saying, the, the, it was like a nice car to drive around and then-

• 36:36Matt Farah?

  It is nice.

• 36:37Speaker 01

And then I floored it and it was just like, this is so stupid.

• 36:41Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It, it, I mean, look, credit to Mate and those guys for being able to do that.

• 36:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 36:49Matt Farah?

I just like, I don't, I don't know if they think this, I, I just think that like, once they got there- It's it's for that kind of money. It's not that exciting unless you're doing this thing. It is so illegal.

• 37:05Speaker 01

So dangerous. I'm not kidding. I was, I mean, I shouldn't admit this, but I'm sure the statute of limitations is gone. I was just going 128 miles an hour for five minutes on Canon.

• 37:15Matt Farah?

I ran an eight second quarter mile in Malibu.

• 37:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:19Matt Farah?

Three times in a row and nobody noticed.

• 37:22Speaker 01

Yeah, I did an eight second quarter mile once and was like, this is stupid.

• 37:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 37:27Speaker 01

And the video guy was like, um, if you do it again, I don't know if I can be in the car. I was like, I was like, I don't know if I can be in the car or should do it.

• 37:34Matt Farah?

Yeah, I know. That's why the third one, you go, I'm gonna vomit after this.

• 37:38Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, but more whiskey.

• 37:40Matt Farah?

Okay, but yeah, but um, I, I want to try this Vistic thing.

• 37:43Speaker 01

  It's cool. I mean, it's a three row.

• 37:45Matt Farah?

  What's the small one? Optic?

• 37:46Speaker 01

  Optic's kind of dope.

• 37:48Matt Farah?

That's kind of, that's the one I really want to try.

• 37:50Speaker 01

You should. Um, so the Optic, what's cool about it is the dude, I'm blanking on his name, such a nice guy. And I feel, I'm so sorry if you're listening, mister. He rode around with me and Emmy Hall on the launch. Um, he really tried to make it sporty. He really like, you know, he, he, he built it to a budget. There will be an Optic V that will actually get Magna Ride shops.

• 38:09Matt Farah?

  Voptic.

• 38:10Speaker 01

The Voptic. Um, but like, it's, it's really fun. It's a little, as little as EVs will ever get. You know what I mean? Like EVs just for a lot of reasons.

• 38:20Matt Farah?

It's the size of a Model Y or whatever.

• 38:22Speaker 01

It's a Model Y size. Yeah. And it.

• 38:24Matt Farah?

That was, this one's not bad. I kind of, I kind of like this one. I'm not sure what's happening at that, that behind the C pillar.

• 38:32Speaker 01

The, the Vistic has it too. It's just Cadillac's thing. It's all right. But very good looking. Also, you're a music fan. Um, and I'm gonna say this and everyone's gonna call me horrible, but I hate Elton John. I've never liked his music. Can't stand it. But this has the first real physical implementation of Dolby Atmos. All Cadillacs will get it. Mercedes offers Atmos. I think my Rivian has that.

• 38:55Speaker 02

  Lotus Electra.

• 38:56Speaker 01

  I just, I use, yeah.

• 38:57Matt Farah?

But hang on, but when I say physical, it means that they worked with Dolby and they put the speakers where Dolby told them. The speakers need to go to fully experienced Atmos.

• 39:07Speaker 01

And the guy played me Rocket Man, the Atmos remix. And I do not like Elton John. I agree with the bad guy in The Rock when he goes, you ever heard Rocket Man by Elton John? He goes, I hate weak ass shit, but fucking blew my mind.

• 39:21Matt Farah?

  It's soft, that shit.

• 39:22Speaker 01

I don't listen to that shit.

• 39:25Matt Farah?

Don't you come at me in a Michael Bay line, motherfucker.

• 39:28Speaker 01

Okay, but, but that, it blew my mind.

• 39:31Speaker 02

A teenager, I hate my father syndrome going on here.

• 39:33Speaker 01

The, the implementation of Atmos in this is perfect.

• 39:36Matt Farah?

Look, I love a great stereo.

• 39:37Speaker 01

Like, they, they had to, like, here's the thing. The, the grab handle, they had to fuck up the grab handle on the off take to put the speaker there. So the grab handle's in the dumbest place possible.

• 39:47Matt Farah?

  Oh, on the A pillar?

• 39:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's horrible, but.

• 39:49Speaker 02

  It's like the Bronco.

• 39:50Speaker 01

Yes, but they did it for a reason is that there's a.

• 39:52Matt Farah?

  To put a speaker there.

• 39:53Speaker 01

Where Dolby said you have to put the speaker.

• 39:55Matt Farah?

  Alright.

• 39:55Speaker 01

And it's, it's so good. The Vistix doesn't have yet, all Cadillacs will get it for 26 model year. They'll get the, the new speaker implementations.

• 40:03Matt Farah?

You should get one to try.

• 40:04Speaker 01

You should get the Vistix, but you, what you really do is get the Escalade IQ. Cause that's the dopest of all cars. I'm telling you.

• 40:12Matt Farah?

Yeah, I don't care that much.

• 40:13Speaker 01

Uh, you would, Matt, remember, remember many years ago, you said, what car should my dad get?

• 40:18Matt Farah?

He got an Escalade. It was the biggest piece of shit you've ever seen. It was so problematic.

• 40:25Speaker 01

We had a long conversation about.

• 40:27Matt Farah?

  Insanely problematic.

• 40:28Speaker 01

Remember we had a long conversation about what car should, uh, Papa Farrah get?

• 40:32Matt Farah?

  Yes.

• 40:32Speaker 01

It's the, it's the, it's the Escalade IQ.

• 40:35Matt Farah?

If you sell that car to him, you are the best salesman.

• 40:39Speaker 01

I will sell it. I will sell it. I will sell it.

• 40:41Matt Farah?

  Experiment number two.

• 40:44Matt Farah?

This is the same whiskey aged on different floors of a Kentucky warehouse.

• 40:51Speaker 01

  So.

• 40:52Matt Farah?

Uh huh. This, uh, this is the ground floor.

• 40:58Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 40:58Matt Farah?

  We're on the floor.

• 41:00Speaker 01

So I'm gonna make a prediction without tasting it.

• 41:02Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 41:03Speaker 01

Um. Ground floor doesn't get very hot. Top floor gets very, very hot. So in Kentucky, uh, you know, when it gets really, really hot, you get a lot of like the, uh, whiskey moving in and out of the wood. You know what I mean?

• 41:16Matt Farah?

  Uh huh.

• 41:17Speaker 01

  So the ground floor stuff.

• 41:18Matt Farah?

  More water evaporate too?

• 41:20Speaker 01

All that, but also just more, it literally goes into the wood, so it's just more, more contact with the wood.

• 41:25Speaker 02

Cause the liquid expands and it.

• 41:27Speaker 01

Yeah, just, just the heat moves over, over the course.

• 41:31Matt Farah?

  It's spongy.

• 41:32Speaker 01

Yeah, and just the more heat there is, the more extraction, and then as it gets cold, it gets forced out of the wood.

• 41:38Matt Farah?

  Cool.

• 41:38Speaker 01

So the, the, the honey spot, the honey hole, or the honey pot, as they call it sometimes. Um, it's rarely ever on the ground floor. It's usually like, there's a certain spot in the distillery, tends to be towards the roof. Where like, the best whiskey comes from. So again, literally the same barrels cut from the same tree. You put one on the fifth, on the bottom floor, you put one five stories up, or eight stories up, depends on the rick house. Radically different, just because of the temperature fluctuate, heat rises, all that stuff.

• 42:06Speaker 02

  That's awesome.

• 42:07Speaker 01

  Closer to the sun.

• 42:08Matt Farah?

Do, do larger commercial distilleries climate control the place to make it more consistent?

• 42:13Speaker 01

The opposite, honestly, like Beam was probably like the largest. They don't at all. In fact, in fact, most rick houses are kind of open to the elements, like they're not really sealed and like, they, like, you couldn't drop something straight into it, but if, they have like slats that are offset like that. They want it open. Michter's, who's a relatively small, super climate controlled, but they raise and lower the temperature manually.

• 42:37Matt Farah?

  Oh.

• 42:37Speaker 01

And so they're like, yeah, I hate claims like this, but like, what we can do in 10 years takes another distillery 20 years.

• 42:43Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 42:44Speaker 01

But it's just, it's very controlled. They're very scientific, like, like Michter's is, the guys wear lab coats, it's wild. It's nothing like-

• 42:51Matt Farah?

  McLaren of bourbon.

• 42:52Speaker 01

It's nothing, like you want to go to Kentucky and like, you know, you want to see like a dude sitting in, you want to see the Cracker Barrel logo, right? But you go to Michter's and it's like, it's, uh, it's scientists like being geeks.

• 43:04Speaker 02

Cause they're trying to recreate the elements of nature, the effects.

• 43:07Speaker 01

I don't know what they're trying, they just do it their way. You know what I mean? It's not, it's not even that, it's just like, like, before I went to Michter's, I would always say, 90% of the flavor in bourbon is from the wood. And I went to Michter's and I'm like, 40% of the flavor is from the wood, because they actually handed me White Dog, which is, you know, unaged bourbon that tasted like bourbon, but it was, it was made in their method.

• 43:30Matt Farah?

  How interesting.

• 43:30Speaker 01

Yeah, so it's like, you should totally, and it's like-

• 43:33Matt Farah?

Normally White Dog is so gnarly, I can't taste anything but fire.

• 43:36Speaker 01

Literally tasted like, it tasted like bourbon without vanilla. It was wild, yeah. But they have their methods and they filter and they do all this stuff. So.

• 43:44Matt Farah?

This tastes very cinnamony, to me. Lots of cinnamon.

• 43:49Speaker 01

  Oh, this is Fireball.

• 43:50Matt Farah?

  Yeah, kind of.

• 43:53Speaker 02

  This is fancy Fireball.

• 43:54Speaker 01

Okay, so this is, my prediction is we're gonna like the, the roof one. This is, um-

• 44:01Matt Farah?

You think this is setting us up for the other one, which is actually good?

• 44:04Speaker 01

This is not good in any way, shape or form.

• 44:06Speaker 02

  It tastes very like rubbery?

• 44:08Speaker 01

  This tastes like cleaning solution.

• 44:09Matt Farah?

Yeah, you really, you really need to, like, I gotta clean my lens. Yeah, you gotta rinse out your glasses, that's all.

• 44:15Speaker 02

  Finish is not good.

• 44:17Matt Farah?

  That is a cinnamon stick.

• 44:19Speaker 01

  But also like, woo!

• 44:21Speaker 02

You know, there's an astringent taste, yeah.

• 44:23Speaker 01

Yeah, astringent, very, very, exactly, yeah.

• 44:25Matt Farah?

This one was a cruel trick, Andrew.

• 44:27Speaker 02

  You jerk.

• 44:29Speaker 01

  That one, uh...

• 44:30Matt Farah?

  Second sip was not...

• 44:32Speaker 02

  Ground floor wine cleaner.

• 44:33Speaker 01

  That one sucks.

• 44:34Speaker 02

This is Pine-Sol from the ground floor.

• 44:35Matt Farah?

Alright, well, let's see what's happening on the fifth floor.

• 44:38Speaker 01

And this is still a six-year?

• 44:39Matt Farah?

Here, Zach, do you not, here, you want an empty bottle? Want to get, too late?

• 44:43Speaker 01

But this, so this is, this is six-year whiskey that's now...

• 44:46Matt Farah?

  Four-year-old bourbon.

• 44:48Speaker 01

Oh, and also, four-year, four-year bourbon's tend to be a little rough like that, too.

• 44:51Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 44:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:52Matt Farah?

  Well, let's see.

• 44:53Speaker 01

Hey, Andrew, next time, six-year, different floors.

• 44:55Matt Farah?

Let's see if the fifth floor is any kinder.

• 44:57Speaker 01

Yeah. It did smell good, just tasted bad.

• 45:01Matt Farah?

It smelled like a cinnamon stick, and then it tasted like cinnamon stick syrup with floor cleaner.

• 45:08Speaker 01

  I mean, it smells better.

• 45:10Matt Farah?

  Alright.

• 45:12Matt Farah?

  Much better.

• 45:19Speaker 01

It's way better. It's still harsh, but you get, you get a candy, and you're getting, you're getting the vanilla that was pulled out of the wood.

• 45:27Speaker 02

You got a tough on your tongue, Johnny.

• 45:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 45:28Speaker 02

You get a callus on there.

• 45:29Speaker 01

Yeah, but you're getting, you're getting...

• 45:31Speaker 02

I thought you liked the harsh stuff, like, you bring the strong barrel proof shit over.

• 45:34Speaker 01

I like delicious, that was gross, that was Pine-Sol, the astringent, but it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like glow.

• 45:41Speaker 02

Wait, but this one's harsh, the new one?

• 45:42Speaker 01

This one's harsh, it's, this is like that harsh, but like, you add, uh, vanilla and caramel to it. And you get the caramel from the char of the wood, and you get the vanilla.

• 45:52Matt Farah?

It's better, but only just, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna see what happens.

• 45:55Speaker 01

By the way, number of good four-year-old bourbons I've had in my life is about three, three.

• 46:01Matt Farah?

I just added like, just a couple milliliters of water, we'll see if it...

• 46:08Speaker 01

  This is.

• 46:09Speaker 02

  That's why I drink gin.

• 46:10Matt Farah?

It does not, it does not make it better.

• 46:13Speaker 01

  No.

• 46:13Matt Farah?

It does not make it better.

• 46:14Speaker 01

No, this is, this is an irredeemable barrel. It's beyond redemption.

• 46:18Matt Farah?

All right, we have one more, we'll wait a few minutes.

• 46:21Speaker 02

  Give me your empty thing.

• 46:22Matt Farah?

  Here, this is the spittoon.

• 46:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:24Matt Farah?

Yeah. If you need a spittoon.

• 46:26Speaker 01

So, I'm looking at my list here, helicopter.

• 46:30Matt Farah?

Wait. Yeah, all right, why not, helicopter, he wrote down helicopter, what does that mean?

• 46:37Speaker 01

October 11th is a big reopening.

• 46:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, I'll be, I'm emceeing the Cars and Coffee.

• 46:43Speaker 01

  I officially got invited.

• 46:44Matt Farah?

  Oh.

• 46:45Speaker 01

But, they also invited Spike and Mr. Zuckerman, and Zuckerman of course said-

• 46:49Matt Farah?

  These were their demands.

• 46:50Speaker 01

Well, Zuckerman, no, literally, Zuckerman said, "No", and they said, "What if we helicoptered you?", Sam said this.

• 46:57Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 46:58Speaker 01

And they said, "Oh, fine", and, and then Spike's like, "You're on the helicopter", and I'm like, "I don't really want to be on the helicopter, I kinda want to drive", but Maz was like, "You should go on the helicopter, and just have your car shipped there."

• 47:10Matt Farah?

Sure, I suppose, if that's, that's, that's a thing you could do, okay, so yeah.

• 47:14Speaker 01

Yeah, so I'll be there, with, with those two knuckleheads.

• 47:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, October 11th, if you're in LA, or San Diego, or driving distance of either, please come, come hang out with us at Willow Springs. We're gonna be doing a live show. There will be a Cars and Coffee with, with, it is actually, it's Cars, it's a Cars and Coffee concourse, I suppose, because it's actually gonna be judged-

• 47:36Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 47:37Matt Farah?

  With some prizes.

• 47:37Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 47:38Matt Farah?

We're gonna have some, some prizes that are pretty cool. There's gonna be some motorsport exhibition, meaning, like, they have some, they're pulling out some really cool vintage historic race cars, they're gonna be running some Singer, like, turbo DLSs.

• 47:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:53Matt Farah?

There's gonna be some exhibition racing, it's gonna be fun.

• 47:56Speaker 01

Um, so, yeah, Maz was saying that I could drive, which is cool.

• 48:00Matt Farah?

  Something, oh, something on track?

• 48:02Speaker 01

  Yeah, something.

• 48:02Matt Farah?

  For sure.

• 48:03Speaker 01

And so I'm try, I think I want to get, because I think, I'm like, what's the most anti-singer thing possible? And not a gun threat, it's too obvious.

• 48:09Matt Farah?

  That would just be mean.

• 48:10Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm gonna try and get like a ZR1.

• 48:13Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 48:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:14Matt Farah?

They're cool. Yeah, that'll be fun.

• 48:16Speaker 01

Yeah. It's super cool. It's the opposite, you know, it's a mass market. It's, it's, it's too cheap and the interior's not singer.

• 48:23Matt Farah?

Did you go on the launch?

• 48:24Speaker 01

  No.

• 48:24Matt Farah?

I'm going, driving one in two weeks for Performance Car of the Year.

• 48:27Speaker 01

  Oh, cool.

• 48:27Matt Farah?

  I'm pretty excited.

• 48:28Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I, I had a long talk with Chevy. I'm like, remember when like, every, no one liked the Camaro and I liked the Camaro? Like, you guys should give me cars again. Like, I, I.

• 48:38Matt Farah?

I should, don't know if they're sending us the X or the regular one, but.

• 48:43Speaker 01

They need, they need, they need to sit, to sit down and they need someone to say, 01 good, 01 X fax machine. That's a terrible name.

• 48:51Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, the, no, the name is not, is not great.

• 48:54Speaker 01

The name is just so, like, come on.

• 48:55Matt Farah?

  Zora was cool.

• 48:57Speaker 01

  Why not Zora?

• 48:58Matt Farah?

  It was cool.

• 48:59Speaker 01

But also like, they need to get over like, like I have all these people like asking me questions like, dude, should I get the LT1 or the LT2? I'm like, oh, those names turn me off so much.

• 49:08Matt Farah?

GM has like a half a century of awful naming.

• 49:12Speaker 01

But like, it's weird because like, 01 good, L88 good, 01 X terrible.

• 49:17Matt Farah?

I don't know, I, I, dude, you know what, for their, all their faults, Dodge can name a fucking car.

• 49:24Speaker 01

Dodge can name a fucking car.

• 49:25Matt Farah?

  Name a car.

• 49:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:27Matt Farah?

I, that, they are a faulty company selling silly products.

• 49:31Speaker 01

  Hey.

• 49:31Matt Farah?

But man, can they come up with a good ass name and stuff.

• 49:35Speaker 01

Yeah, Hellcat, Red Eye, like, it's great. It's great.

• 49:38Matt Farah?

That's sell, you know how to sell a car.

• 49:40Speaker 01

I want, that's why I was, I was, I was, I did that, I drove that Miquellos thing, which is really, really good.

• 49:46Matt Farah?

  The what?

• 49:46Speaker 01

  Miquellos.

• 49:47Matt Farah?

  What is a Miquellos?

• 49:48Speaker 02

I've driven one of their cars before.

• 49:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:49Matt Farah?

  You, what, you have?

• 49:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 02

Years ago, it was like an RSR replica.

• 49:52Speaker 01

That thing, that green thing. That's a Miquellos.

• 49:56Matt Farah?

  It's a Porsche.

• 49:58Speaker 01

It's a, it's a 72911, this company in Escondido down in San Diego. They are excellent at what they do. The problem is, it's called Miquellos. I, I drove the, they made a Bluebird. So they literally made a. A roof yellowbird, they got a roof gearbox, they got a yellowbird gearbox and you know, the yellowbird made 469 horsepower, their car made 470, it was awesome, but I couldn't remember the name of the company, I'm always like, I drove this thing, I don't know, like.

• 50:24Matt Farah?

So funny, so this is a 72ST.

• 50:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, so it's, it's, it's, it's a, instead of a 3.2, it's punched out to 3.5. Um, it's, it's fucking great, it's just like.

• 50:36Matt Farah?

Is it a backdate based on a G body?

• 50:38Speaker 01

No, it's a 72, it's a 72, it's a 72, I should have taken a picture from the other side, it like, instead of the oil flap, they, they, because they put, they put wider ST fender flares on it, so they got rid of the flap and they just have a, it has, it has like the, can't see in this photo, but it has the, you know, the singer style center fuel, so they did a miniature version of that for the oil, it says, it says oil in German on it.

• 51:02Matt Farah?

  That's cool.

• 51:03Speaker 01

Yeah, it's cool, they shouldn't have called it the ST, they gotta change the name.

• 51:07Matt Farah?

  They might get sued.

• 51:08Speaker 01

It's just, it's just, it's evocative of nothing, like Makellus, like what?

• 51:13Matt Farah?

Yeah, I don't know, I'm not sure, the name doesn't mean anything, but it's a lovely, like, clean looking car.

• 51:18Speaker 01

It's so good, I was talking to Glucker, Glucker drove, I was talking to Glucker at your party last night, like, we just love this car, is, is, every air cooled itch I ever had, this car would scratch, sadly, it's, it's 450, because that's what cars cost these days.

• 51:30Matt Farah?

Well, it's, it looks, I mean, just to look at it, it looks light and simple.

• 51:34Speaker 01

Yeah, check out the interior, like, it's woven awesomeness.

• 51:38Matt Farah?

  The seats look great.

• 51:39Speaker 01

  Seats are great.

• 51:40Matt Farah?

As long as they fit in the shift.

• 51:41Speaker 01

You would fit, you would fit.

• 51:42Matt Farah?

I hate these four spoke steering wheels, I am not, I am not about that four spoke life.

• 51:48Speaker 02

Yeah, they remind me of Disneyland, like, you know, kids car riding.

• 51:52Matt Farah?

Rad racer, that's a rad racer steering wheel.

• 51:55Speaker 01

I didn't even think about it, but I was like, I was talking, I'm like.

• 51:57Matt Farah?

That's an easy thing to change, I mean, you can, you know, that's, that's easy.

• 52:00Speaker 01

  They'll do anything you want.

• 52:01Matt Farah?

Of course they will, I just, I happen to hate these four spoke steering wheels.

• 52:05Speaker 01

But, and like, it's like, good, it's like, it's like a 996 GT3 intake plenum, there's all kinds of cool stuff in the motor, but I was like, change the name of the company to Mulholland.

• 52:16Matt Farah?

  Is it, it's, it's based on a?

• 52:18Speaker 01

  It's based on nothing.

• 52:19Matt Farah?

Based on like, no, no, the engine, is it, is it a 993?

• 52:23Speaker 01

  It's a 3.2, so it's a.

• 52:25Matt Farah?

  So it's a, it's a Carrera engine?

• 52:26Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a Carrera engine, 3.2 punched out to 3.5, but it's like, it's like, again, it's like. It has a nine nine six intake plenum, a GT three intake plenum. It has like nine nine three turbo this.

• 52:38Matt Farah?

  Fuck.

• 52:38Speaker 01

Oh, it's great. Oh, it's it's such a great car. And I had Magnus drive it. And so he drove it from his warehouse to the Shell station. He's like, ah, mate, it's nothing, blah, blah. Yes, I've driven a million cars like this. Nothing special about it at all. I was like, yeah. I like driving it around town, but I hear what you're saying. We went up on the crest and he's just ripping back and forth and and and despite what anyone might think, Magnus can drive a nine eleven like.

• 53:03Matt Farah?

Yeah, he's fast. Yeah, he is fast.

• 53:05Speaker 01

And he comes and he's like, oh, mate, it's a lot better at speed, isn't it? You know, I was like, yeah, it really is. Like, it's it's and it's big, fat sidewalls. You know, like, the ride quality is awesome. And it's it's just a great car. You should you should totally put your hand up and be like, McKellus, let me make a video with this car. It's great.

• 53:22Matt Farah?

We so the problem is with for making videos with this.

• 53:26Speaker 01

Or just review it, driving around for Instagram, whatever.

• 53:28Matt Farah?

They really, uh, the nuances of one Porsche to another never really come through.

• 53:33Speaker 01

That's awesome, because I have four custom Porsches and a Rover.

• 53:37Speaker 02

I drove there nine thirty a few years ago, this thing, which was fun.

• 53:41Matt Farah?

That thing. The name is Terry. You drove it.

• 53:45Speaker 01

Strike. Zach drove it. I didn't drive it. The black car with the stripe on it. Yeah.

• 53:50Speaker 02

  It was quick.

• 53:50Matt Farah?

  Was it cool?

• 53:51Speaker 02

It was cool and quick. And I drove there. They had like an RSR two seven replica thing I drove. It was like an art car. And it was done pretty well. Now, I would I will admit, I did a video of that. When I drove it, it was like the first air-cooled Porsche I ever drove. So if you're experts and they have problems with that car, don't come at me, bro. But this thing was my introduction to the nine thirty. It had modern tires. It was like four hundred ish horsepower. And it was a really fun time, felt as precise as any old Porsche does. And I think they do pretty high quality work, especially their bodywork stuff. They do metal fenders, things like that.

• 54:22Speaker 01

They gotta they gotta come up with an identity, because it's not it's not enough. Like, McKellus is it's just a bad name. And the guy, Max, I forget his last name. It's not McKellus. I don't know why it's.

• 54:32Matt Farah?

  Oh.

• 54:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:33Matt Farah?

Really? That's a name that was made up?

• 54:35Speaker 01

I don't know. I don't know. But like, I said, Mulholland, just be Mulholland. It's an M. And like. It's evocative. It means something to Porsche people.

• 54:44Matt Farah?

You gotta, you gotta figure that one out.

• 54:46Speaker 01

Yeah, but like, they do such good work. Like, I've driven two of them now, and I love them both, but I can't remember Makello's. I don't even know how to spell it. It, it sounds like a diner.

• 54:56Speaker 02

It was started by someone named Tom Mule.

• 54:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:00Speaker 02

And Mark, and Mark Strack, I mean, yeah, no one there is named.

• 55:02Speaker 01

  Why Makello's? It's not good.

• 55:04Matt Farah?

It does, it does sound like I'm gonna order a gyro with side fries.

• 55:07Speaker 02

Wasn't it, like, there's a lot of names that are famous now, because it was a combination of, like, three engineers.

• 55:12Speaker 01

Makers. But Makello's ain't it. It ain't it. You don't, but like, like Gunther Works is totally made up and contrived and silly, but it works. It's smart.

• 55:21Matt Farah?

Yeah, it did, it sounded a little silly in the beginning, and I said it, started saying it a few times, and now I sort of take it for, okay, it's a thing, yeah.

• 55:29Speaker 01

They, they had to come up with a story. Do you know the Gunther story that, like?

• 55:33Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 55:33Speaker 01

Okay. Like, they had to come up with something, you know, and, and so it works.

• 55:37Matt Farah?

So they came up with something German.

• 55:39Speaker 01

Well, but it was, there was a guy named Gunther.

• 55:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 55:42Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, like, okay, that.

• 55:44Matt Farah?

But like, there ain't nobody at Gunther working at Gunther Works.

• 55:48Speaker 01

There's no one German. There couldn't be a less German company. As far as I know, it's like, Middle Eastern, Scottish, and Chinese.

• 55:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 55:55Speaker 01

You know, yeah, but it works.

• 55:57Matt Farah?

A good cross-section of Southern California.

• 56:00Speaker 01

Mulholland. Even though they're in San Diego, you call the fucking cars Mulholland.

• 56:03Matt Farah?

I feel bad. I don't want to spend too much time crapping on their name. I hope they build nice cars.

• 56:07Speaker 01

  They build seriously great cars.

• 56:10Matt Farah?

Name's an easier thing to change than be building shitty cars, isn't it?

• 56:14Speaker 01

Don't call it the ST. Call it something. It's make, you know, come on.

• 56:17Matt Farah?

Look at the we- I mean, look at their website. Their website's fucking, that's a GeoCities. It's not. Oh, it's not?

• 56:22Speaker 02

  No, that, that's flat60.com.

• 56:24Matt Farah?

  Oh, sorry.

• 56:25Speaker 02

  Their, their website.

• 56:27Matt Farah?

No, no, yeah, that, that's the website I'm talking about.

• 56:29Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 56:30Matt Farah?

  That's a, that's, that.

• 56:31Speaker 01

That's, I think that's the car I drove. That's the Yellowbird, or the Bluebird.

• 56:34Matt Farah?

No, that one, that one looks, uh, looks pretty, uh, stancy. Looks good duck tail.

• 56:39Speaker 01

  You would love this car.

• 56:41Matt Farah?

It's got like a 934 front, uh, bumper on it.

• 56:44Speaker 01

You would love this car. It was such, but, but, but it was one of those things, I drove it. I wrote about it, I said how much I loved it, I couldn't remember what it was called.

• 56:53Matt Farah?

  That's a problem.

• 56:54Speaker 02

You had one job, Johnny. Oh, you have two jobs.

• 56:56Matt Farah?

  We have, we have.

• 56:57Speaker 02

  Talk about the car.

• 56:57Matt Farah?

We have an easy thing to fix, but we do have a problem.

• 56:59Speaker 01

Yeah, so good stuff, good stuff.

• 57:01Matt Farah?

  That is GeoCities' ass website.

• 57:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 57:05Matt Farah?

  Should we try Experiment 3?

• 57:07Speaker 01

I think so at this point, yes.

• 57:08Matt Farah?

Experiment 3 is, this will be interesting, okay?

• 57:12Speaker 02

This looks like the piss of someone who has a kidney issue.

• 57:14Matt Farah?

  Oh boy. Experiment 3.

• 57:16Speaker 02

  For people watching.

• 57:17Matt Farah?

  Well said.

• 57:18Speaker 02

  They're listening, rather.

• 57:19Matt Farah?

Is, uh, same, uh, two years aged.

• 57:24Speaker 01

  It's a two year?

• 57:25Matt Farah?

  It says two years.

• 57:26Speaker 01

It's not even legally bourbon, that's just an American whiskey, which is gonna be gross, but go ahead.

• 57:30Matt Farah?

Alright, well, we're gonna do a tiny little bit, just a tiny, tiny sip.

• 57:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 57:33Matt Farah?

  Kentucky versus Scotland.

• 57:35Speaker 01

  Oh, eh.

• 57:36Matt Farah?

  Do you wanna?

• 57:37Speaker 01

I would love like an eight-year Kentucky versus Scotland.

• 57:39Matt Farah?

Well, this is what we have, so.

• 57:41Speaker 01

So, wha- what does that mean, though?

• 57:43Matt Farah?

Climate effects, the same whiskey aged in identical barrels, matured in different parts of the world.

• 57:50Speaker 01

  Why two years?

• 57:51Speaker 02

It's also hard to understand both armies.

• 57:53Matt Farah?

But I assume he sent something where we would actually be able to taste the difference, right? So, we're gonna start with Scotland.

• 57:59Speaker 01

  What's the guy's name, Andrew?

• 58:00Matt Farah?

  Andrew.

• 58:01Speaker 01

Andrew, do it again with an eight-year.

• 58:04Speaker 02

That's the more expensive stuff, he can't strip it out.

• 58:06Speaker 01

  A two-year?

• 58:08Matt Farah?

We're just doing a small, it's a small little sip.

• 58:10Speaker 01

  A two-year, like, uh, alright.

• 58:11Matt Farah?

  I don't know. This is.

• 58:14Speaker 02

I think we did it in the wrong order.

• 58:15Matt Farah?

  Director of whiskey research, what?

• 58:16Speaker 02

  It's pretty, it's cool, though.

• 58:17Speaker 01

Actually, it doesn't smell bad at all, doesn't smell bad at all.

• 58:19Speaker 02

  I don't need extra.

• 58:20Matt Farah?

I know, just you seem like you didn't have enough.

• 58:23Speaker 01

I could use a little more.

• 58:24Matt Farah?

  You want more?

• 58:24Speaker 02

I didn't drink last night, so I'm making it up for you.

• 58:26Speaker 01

When you're tasting something, if you have, like, too little, it kind of evaporates on your lips, so you don't get to, like, swallow it.

• 58:33Speaker 02

I think you need two sips, like, that's, you need at least that, one sip you don't like.

• 58:37Matt Farah?

  Alright, so this is Scotland.

• 58:38Speaker 01

Actually smells nice, smells like Scotch, you get like that canned vegetable smell, which is, that's. You know what I'm thinking about?

• 58:46Speaker 02

We put green beans in it, right?

• 58:48Speaker 01

Yeah, all Scotch to me always has like canned vegetables.

• 58:51Speaker 02

  That's the most talking.

• 58:53Speaker 01

  But, that's why I don't like Scotch.

• 58:57Matt Farah?

This doesn't taste that bad. It's got a little more peat in it. It's, it's, it does actually-

• 59:01Speaker 01

Well, I don't think it has peat in it, but-

• 59:03Matt Farah?

It's not peat. It does taste scotchy.

• 59:06Matt Farah?

  No? Not to you guys?

• 59:08Speaker 01

If I ordered this, I would drink this and never think about it again as long as I live.

• 59:13Speaker 02

The second half is not great.

• 59:14Matt Farah?

No, it's not, it's not like good, but like compared to what we've been drinking, it tastes more like Scotch than it does taste like bourbon, doesn't it?

• 59:22Speaker 02

So, second half tastes like burnt marshmallow, though.

• 59:25Speaker 01

  So, so remember-

• 59:26Speaker 02

I agree with you on the first half, though. It was scotchish, and then the turn or like the river, it's like very-

• 59:32Matt Farah?

Yeah, I know, like, we're not rating this for fucking bourbon spectator. It's just like, it does taste more like Scotch.

• 59:38Speaker 01

So, what I believe is happening here is we have a, well, may one day be a bourbon, can't be a bourbon because it's only two years old. So it's corn-based, which was sent to Scotland to age. So it means there's no heat. There's no, nothing-

• 59:52Speaker 02

It's like it went to boarding school.

• 59:53Speaker 01

  And also-

• 59:54Matt Farah?

  Got kicked out of its-

• 59:56Speaker 02

I'm sending you to military school in Scotland.

• 59:58Speaker 01

I would also guess, though, I would also guess this was put in new barrels in America and sent to Scotland to age.

• 1:00:05Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:06Speaker 01

Scotch is only made mostly, ninety, over ninety percent is made in used bourbon barrels, so they've been cycled once. So the vanilla, the sweet you're picking up is, you'd never get that out of a Scotch.

• 1:00:18Matt Farah?

Okay, so you suspect that this experiment had an American barrel sent to Scotland?

• 1:00:23Speaker 01

Yeah, they filled it up in America and they sent it to Scotland to age.

• 1:00:27Speaker 02

  Fidel goes east.

• 1:00:28Speaker 01

  So it's a, it's a virgin oak barrel.

• 1:00:30Speaker 02

I like this game. I want Andrew to respond, truthfully, because it'd be cool if you pick it out.

• 1:00:34Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm almost positive. But yeah, it's, it's, it's kind of gross.

• 1:00:38Speaker 02

Because isn't it like, with, with wine, like, French oak adds a lot of the vanilla flavor, not American oak? They have different taste profiles.

• 1:00:45Speaker 01

Yeah, also the French just, they don't like, um, Stepford Wives love butter bomb Chardonnay. I don't know what else to tell you. There's no, because you got a French Chardonnay, it's delicious.

• 1:00:57Speaker 02

  It's like a cookie in a glass.

• 1:00:58Matt Farah?

They can't treat themselves to candy and desserts and stuff all the time. They're always on a diet, so they're getting, they're getting it from the Chardonnay.

• 1:01:07Speaker 02

I'll tell you off-air how true that is.

• 1:01:11Speaker 01

But like, you know, champagne, like really good champagne, all champagne, French champagne, is mostly Chardonnay grapes. You know what I mean? It's like, the grapes are delicious.

• 1:01:19Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:20Speaker 01

Like, the best thing I've ever put in my mouth, ever, Krug 88.

• 1:01:25Speaker 01

Did you ever get a chance? Oh dude, I was with Kobelitz, and Kobelitz was rolling, and he bought a bottle of Krug 88, which...

• 1:01:32Matt Farah?

What's, so, okay, well, here, the question, like, we're now...

• 1:01:37Speaker 01

  I'm with Zach.

• 1:01:37Matt Farah?

Krug 88 is now like, that's old, old. Like, that's now a long fucking time ago. Is that beyond drinkable? It's not?

• 1:01:49Speaker 01

  I was at a dinner...

• 1:01:50Matt Farah?

Cause I tried a Dom 88 that was turned.

• 1:01:54Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:01:54Speaker 02

  White wine does turn.

• 1:01:56Matt Farah?

Even though it had been kept.

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

It could have. I, I just had a, a very kind friend of mine sent me a bottle of 1980 Dom Perignon, uh, cause my wife was born in 1980 for her birthday, uh, and, um, goddamn, that was good.

• 1:02:09Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:02:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:10Matt Farah?

Okay. Maybe this is just this bottle.

• 1:02:12Speaker 01

Yeah, it depends how it's stored, a lot of it, but like...

• 1:02:15Matt Farah?

My parents can't be trusted to do the right thing.

• 1:02:18Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:02:18Matt Farah?

  When it comes to wine.

• 1:02:19Speaker 02

If it's stored vertically, it's game over. With white wine, it's like, a year.

• 1:02:23Speaker 01

You do, well, you want to...

• 1:02:24Matt Farah?

No, it wouldn't have been stored vertically, but like, look, you, Zach, you know my parents.

• 1:02:29Speaker 02

  They don't drink.

• 1:02:29Matt Farah?

They don't drink, and they couldn't, they can't...

• 1:02:31Speaker 01

  Good juice.

• 1:02:32Matt Farah?

  They can't be trusted to...

• 1:02:34Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:35Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:02:35Matt Farah?

Take the perfect care of something like that.

• 1:02:37Speaker 01

We put the wine outside for the summer.

• 1:02:41Matt Farah?

But they're not hopeless, but they, whatever extra care that bottle would have needed, they wouldn't have done.

• 1:02:45Speaker 02

So, I looked it up, uh, champagne is very high in acid, and that protects it over a long period of time. Versus, if you try to store like Sauv Blanc or Chardonnay or something like that for a long time, even on its side, it's probably more likely to go bad.

• 1:02:58Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, so, so, you know, the preservative in wine, there really isn't any except for the alcohol. So, white wines tend to be lower alcohol than red wines, so they just don't age as well. Um, and you know, beer that's heavily hop can age a long time. Budweiser cannot age. Budweiser's over thirty days old, it just turns in the can.

• 1:03:16Speaker 02

  One day old is bad.

• 1:03:18Speaker 01

Yeah. Fresh Budweiser tastes like, uh, Green Jolly Ranchers. Pretty good.

• 1:03:22Speaker 02

  What?

• 1:03:22Speaker 01

  Very good chance. Yeah.

• 1:03:23Speaker 02

I wanna, I wanna go to Ireland and have a red Guinness.

• 1:03:26Matt Farah?

To get that. You're talking about a tap or you're talking about going to the brewery?

• 1:03:30Speaker 01

If you can figure out, like, they, they can it and they, they, they send it to the liquor store across the street. Like, it's called acetaldehyde. It's just a flavor component that the yeast kicks off. And you get, you know, just, you get a fresh Budweiser. It's pretty, pretty tasty.

• 1:03:44Matt Farah?

I couldn't tell you the last time. I must have been college.

• 1:03:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:49Matt Farah?

Where I drank an actual raw dog Budweiser.

• 1:03:53Speaker 01

  There was a moment.

• 1:03:53Matt Farah?

Not, this is not because I'm a beer snob. I'm not a beer snob at all.

• 1:03:57Speaker 01

Yeah, why would you buy Budweiser?

• 1:03:58Matt Farah?

Why, yeah. Why would I ever buy a Budweiser? I don't know.

• 1:04:02Speaker 01

I, I, I almost had a beer show at one point in my life and one of the segments, one of the segments I wanted to do was, I wanted to get the physical ingredients of like, alright, so, you know, they make Budweiser in like, gajillion gallon batches, but like, okay, here's what is actually in a can of beer. Here's the amount of grain. And Budweiser is also like, it's like, it's like sixty-six percent grain, thirty-three percent rice or something like that. Here's the amount of hops. And then get like Budweiser next to Stella, next to Coors, next to, and it would literally, you'd be like, oh my God, they're all exactly the same. There's no difference in ingredients at all. Between like mainstream fizzy lagers. It's like literally, they hop them just to the point of human perception of hops.

• 1:04:44Speaker 01

So if you could taste the bitterness, they go down one level because the hops are just a cheap preservative.

• 1:04:50Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:50Speaker 01

And, uh, they're all, all same. Budweiser uses rice. And I think, I think a hundred percent of the rice crop of Mississippi is used by Budweiser. And Coors and, and Miller use corn as an adjunct and, and everyone else uses corn. Yeah. And then Japanese beers use rice as an adjunct.

• 1:05:09Matt Farah?

  Alright.

• 1:05:10Speaker 01

  For lagers, yeah.

• 1:05:11Matt Farah?

  Japanese beer, I'm into.

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:13Matt Farah?

  Do love me.

• 1:05:14Speaker 01

  Can be good.

• 1:05:15Matt Farah?

  Do love me, uh, Sapporo.

• 1:05:18Speaker 01

  They use rice.

• 1:05:18Matt Farah?

  Do love me a Kirin.

• 1:05:20Speaker 01

If I were to show you.

• 1:05:21Matt Farah?

Kirin Light, I like a lot.

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

If I were to show you a pile of Kirin ingredients and a pile of Budweiser, you'd be like, well, it's the same beer.

• 1:05:27Matt Farah?

Same thing. They're probably the same thing.

• 1:05:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:29Matt Farah?

  I am easily influenced by.

• 1:05:32Matt Farah?

  Labels.

• 1:05:33Speaker 01

  Let's, let's do the two-year Kentucky.

• 1:05:36Matt Farah?

Alright, let's see, cause the last one, honestly, the second sip, the, the second half of the second sip was very bad.

• 1:05:43Speaker 02

I think we should have gone from two years to six years, but.

• 1:05:45Speaker 01

Yeah, I think we did this backwards.

• 1:05:47Matt Farah?

But, it's not two years to six years, it's, it's, it's Scotland to Kentucky.

• 1:05:51Speaker 01

He's saying, he's saying we should have started with the two-year Scotland, Kentucky, worked our way up to the six years.

• 1:05:56Matt Farah?

I did it, he sent me one, two, three, and I did it in the order it was provided.

• 1:06:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, but this guy's fucked.

• 1:06:01Matt Farah?

I had no, I had, I had no agency here, dude. I can't not follow the instructions.

• 1:06:07Speaker 02

  Life is predetermined, that's for.

• 1:06:10Matt Farah?

  Fuck.

• 1:06:10Speaker 01

But so, so again, what's the difference? It gets real hot in Kentucky. And they probably get about the same cold, because it does snow in Kentucky and get real bitterly cold. In Scotland, you know, it's not icy, but it gets cold.

• 1:06:24Matt Farah?

It seems like a different color.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

  But it gets real.

• 1:06:27Matt Farah?

Does it seem like a different color?

• 1:06:28Speaker 01

  It seems darker.

• 1:06:29Matt Farah?

  It seems darker, doesn't it?

• 1:06:30Speaker 01

Yeah, because it'll have more context.

• 1:06:31Matt Farah?

Cause of the hot, cause it's going in and out.

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

  I would guess.

• 1:06:34Speaker 02

It smells far more woody, and I know that's not a great description.

• 1:06:38Matt Farah?

  Way different.

• 1:06:38Speaker 01

  It smells far more gross.

• 1:06:40Matt Farah?

It doesn't smell good, it smells like a lot different, though.

• 1:06:44Speaker 01

  It smells like medicine.

• 1:06:45Matt Farah?

  Kind of cough syrupy.

• 1:06:46Speaker 01

Take this, you have a cough, yeah.

• 1:06:48Matt Farah?

  Cough syrupy.

• 1:06:49Speaker 02

I feel like the best bourbons smell like maple syrup. The best ones just smell like that, they don't taste like it, but from there, it's all downhill.

• 1:06:56Matt Farah?

Oh shit, that's not good. This smells, this tastes like Fresenade Bronca.

• 1:07:01Speaker 02

  Oh god.

• 1:07:02Matt Farah?

  It's, it's not good.

• 1:07:03Speaker 02

  Can't do that.

• 1:07:03Matt Farah?

  It's not good.

• 1:07:04Speaker 01

  No, that's lousy.

• 1:07:06Matt Farah?

Nevertheless, man, what did we learn? Char four, six-year-old.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:11Matt Farah?

  That.

• 1:07:12Speaker 01

  That was good.

• 1:07:13Matt Farah?

  This guy, this right here.

• 1:07:15Speaker 01

  Mr. Andrew, if you're listening.

• 1:07:17Matt Farah?

  Here's what we're gonna do.

• 1:07:18Speaker 01

Send me a DM and tell me what distillery that came from.

• 1:07:22Matt Farah?

This is the bottle, okay, pour out, we're gonna, we're gonna celebrate that we've completed the experiment.

• 1:07:26Speaker 01

  Oh yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:27Matt Farah?

By finishing the second half of the only thing in here that actually really tasted great.

• 1:07:32Speaker 01

Yeah, that was really, really good.

• 1:07:34Matt Farah?

Does that work for you, Zach?

• 1:07:35Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

  I sort of down.

• 1:07:37Matt Farah?

I do appreciate, I mean, look, they, we were able to taste differences from these experiments.

• 1:07:42Speaker 01

Dude, one of, one of the wildest, most just amazing moments of my life was I did this crazy video with, um, with, uh, with Bentley and, uh.

• 1:07:54Speaker 01

Went to the Bentley Distillery and I got to hang out with the master distiller at McAllen. And it was just so enlightening because what they do, what this guy does, and now it's a woman, but every day is, they get like a hundred or hundreds of samples of just barrels, right? And what they do there is they water them down to 20% alcohol. So their barrel strength is probably 53% with Scotch. And they water them down to 20% because they never, ever, ever taste. So with bourbon, you taste. With Scotch, you smell.

• 1:08:29Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 1:08:30Speaker 01

And they smell. And so they're like, McAllen 10-year, there's 20, 20 different barrels make up a bottling of McAllen 10-year. And you need to have four that smell like grass and you need to have four that smell like wheat or whatever. And they just smell all day. And then if something is like, oh, that's good, like, put that one back and maybe it can be part of a 12-year.

• 1:08:50Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 1:08:50Speaker 01

Oh, it sucks. That becomes famous grouse. And like, oh, that's exceptional. That, that we might put into like the 20-year program.

• 1:08:57Speaker 02

And it's just all the same shit, just based on vibes and smell.

• 1:09:02Speaker 01

Yeah. And so like 25% of human beings are super tasters. They just have a better sense of smell and taste than other people. They find you, in Scotland, they find you in high school, you know, and they say, hey, you want to maybe do this? Like you can start sweeping up at the distillery and like maybe one day you'll become the master distiller.

• 1:09:19Speaker 02

How did they find? Do they have a restaurant out in the mountains and they like, you know, they cook burgers? And then someone who wanders over, they're like, you found us.

• 1:09:26Speaker 01

They literally, because it's such a part of the economy, they literally administer, like, you know, you took the SAT. They take a taste test in Scotland.

• 1:09:35Speaker 02

It's the, it's the NSAT. It's the nasal, the nasal skills aptitude test.

• 1:09:41Speaker 01

But it was, it was so wild because I got, I got to sit there and smell like all these different things.

• 1:09:46Speaker 02

Why do they smell but Kentucky taste? Is that alcoholism?

• 1:09:50Speaker 01

  Alcoholism, yeah.

• 1:09:52Matt Farah?

We don't waste it down here.

• 1:09:53Speaker 02

We're underpaid in this country. He's like, I'm gonna drink it.

• 1:09:55Speaker 01

You know, you know what it is? Yeah, it's just culturally different, but also like, you know, like if you go to Macallan, they make a Macallan 10, 12, 15. Now they make like a 17, 18, there's a 21, there's a 25, and there's a 30. And like, if you go to like, you know, Michter's, eh, they make like a couple of different things, but really like, there's not that much to, you know, this is not much to do as much. And so, they, they're just like, they don't want them to drink it. I don't know, it works the same. You get the same end result.

• 1:10:27Speaker 02

I wonder if they realized genuinely, like, you know, your olfactory, like your, your nose glands, they can reset. But if you're sipping, does your palate re- truly reset? Do you slowly get a little bit drunk? Does it have a cost?

• 1:10:39Speaker 01

You slowly get a little bit drunk.

• 1:10:41Matt Farah?

You get drunk and it's gotta linger a little longer, too.

• 1:10:44Speaker 01

Yeah. That said, though, I've, I've picked barrels with master distillers at, you know, Kentucky Distillery. It's like, it's way more fun to taste.

• 1:10:53Speaker 01

  Smelling 20% alcohol mixes like.

• 1:10:55Matt Farah?

Do you, who the fuck gets into the booze business to not get a little shitty at the fucking office?

• 1:11:01Speaker 01

Now, hang on, now hang on. Let me, let me back this up and also say that, that we, we, we went to, we had, so there's, if you look at a bottle of Macallan, there's a house on it, the Easter Elkes house. And we walked in, they go, they go, your country was founded in 1776. This house was built in 1700.

• 1:11:18Matt Farah?

They like to tell us that.

• 1:11:19Speaker 01

Yeah. And then we sit down and they have.

• 1:11:21Matt Farah?

  We know that about ourselves.

• 1:11:22Speaker 01

And then it's not, then over there, it's not White Dog. It's, it's called something else. Or maybe it's here, it's White Lightning and over there, it's White Dog. Anyhow, they, they had that.

• 1:11:29Speaker 02

  More sense.

• 1:11:30Speaker 01

But then they had 15, uh, 15, 18, 21, 25 year old Macallan with dinner. So we're drinking that. And then we retire up to the study and, um.

• 1:11:42Matt Farah?

  The women will go, uh.

• 1:11:44Speaker 01

Oh, there was no women. Trust me, this, this is, this is cars and whiskey. There's no women anywhere.

• 1:11:48Speaker 02

None of us have had sex for years.

• 1:11:50Speaker 01

  And, and, uh.

• 1:11:51Speaker 02

We're fucking bored. That's why we got all these whiskey.

• 1:11:53Speaker 01

So this, I, I'm blanking on his name, goddamn it. His job title was.

• 1:11:57Speaker 02

I'd give anything to smell panties again. That's Irish. I don't know what I'm doing.

• 1:12:00Speaker 01

Yeah. But this guy's job title was master of malts from Macallan. That was his job title. And he goes, yeah, open the cabinet, any two bottles you see, we'll drink those. I open up, there's two 30 year old bottles, Fine Oak and Selecto. And I was like, these? He's like, oh dude, you know. Fucking hammered.

• 1:12:17Speaker 02

Lot of disposable income with no relationship, you're saying.

• 1:12:20Speaker 01

I spent the night there. I spent the night at the East Rizalke.

• 1:12:23Matt Farah?

You had, you know, he, what he's trying to say is he passed out on the floor.

• 1:12:27Speaker 01

Oh, no, no, no, no, no.

• 1:12:29Matt Farah?

He was curled up with the golden retriever.

• 1:12:32Speaker 01

Allow me to finish. Allow me to finish.

• 1:12:35Speaker 02

Johnny and the sheep. The new podcast.

• 1:12:38Matt Farah?

  That's thirty. I don't know why they're Irish all of a sudden.

• 1:12:42Speaker 01

The rest of my crew, bitches out, goes to bed. We're all sleeping in the house. So it's me and this guy. So he goes, so Johnny, have I convinced ya? Is Macallan not the most aristocratic beverage you can drink? And I said, yeah. I'm blanking on his name. Such a nice guy. I go, it's good. I gotta tell you, I'm more of a Birmingham guy, but I still like Highland Park. I love Highland Park. I've always liked it.

• 1:13:04Speaker 02

  Best parts of Chicago.

• 1:13:06Speaker 01

And he goes, he goes, me too. He goes, you could never, never, ever tell this deep secret, but Macallan bought Highland Park. There's a whiskey barrel with a plant on it. Pulls the plant off, opens the lid of the whiskey barrel, pulls out a forty year bottle of Highland Park. And we fucking drink. And we crawled up on our like elbows and knees to our rooms like.

• 1:13:26Matt Farah?

So if you're ever there, pick up the plant.

• 1:13:28Speaker 01

Hang on. And then, and then had to get up at six AM and film.

• 1:13:32Matt Farah?

Oh, God. I haven't had one of those days in a very long time, thank God.

• 1:13:37Speaker 01

This was thirteen, fourteen years ago.

• 1:13:39Speaker 02

What is Highland Park? I don't know anything about alcohol.

• 1:13:41Speaker 01

Park is just, it's an island whiskey.

• 1:13:45Speaker 01

So, so Macallan is Speyside, very clean, no peat whatsoever. Highland Park, it's just very northern. And I think there's a little bit, it's a little bit peatier, but it's not LaFroy or it's not.

• 1:13:59Matt Farah?

  LaFroy.

• 1:14:00Speaker 01

  Bruglatti or anything.

• 1:14:01Matt Farah?

It turns my whole body into a campfire.

• 1:14:03Speaker 01

Yeah. Once a decade, it's nice to have a glass of LaFroy. Yeah. Yeah, Highland Park's just the shiz. I love it.

• 1:14:09Matt Farah?

Look at this photo of this fucking, this whore's just sniffing a bottle.

• 1:14:14Speaker 01

Google, Google, mini horses wearing clothing. Have you seen this?

• 1:14:18Speaker 02

I've seen mini horses on airplanes, which is also weird.

• 1:14:21Speaker 01

Scotland, because tourism's down, they're dressing up their mini horses in clothes, trying to get people to come to Scotland.

• 1:14:27Matt Farah?

Gotta do what you gotta do.

• 1:14:28Speaker 02

  The Instagram.

• 1:14:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, look.

• 1:14:31Speaker 02

Oh, my God. The power of.

• 1:14:34Speaker 01

  Look at the rabbi.

• 1:14:35Speaker 02

The power of a young lady who sees a cute animal and her ability to buy a plane ticket, I tell you.

• 1:14:40Matt Farah?

  Klapman. Scotland fucking rules.

• 1:14:42Speaker 01

Remember we were gonna go to Scotland?

• 1:14:45Matt Farah?

  We had the best plan.

• 1:14:46Speaker 01

  We had the best plan.

• 1:14:48Matt Farah?

We were, we were gonna drive the, we were the only two people, whatever, that got invited to drive that Evoluto thing, the 355.

• 1:14:55Speaker 01

I love how you can remember names of things.

• 1:14:56Matt Farah?

And we were gonna, yeah, cause they're all new. And they, uh, they invited us to Scotland to drive it.

• 1:15:01Speaker 01

It was in June. Now it's August.

• 1:15:03Speaker 02

  They've invited us three times?

• 1:15:05Matt Farah?

Yeah. I hope we get to do it. But we were also gonna go shoot skeet at the Jackie Stewart Sporting Clay.

• 1:15:12Speaker 01

But much more importantly, we're gonna drink whiskey.

• 1:15:15Matt Farah?

We're gonna drink lots of whiskey. At the, uh, at the best, at the finest whiskey room in Scotland. And I cannot wait to get back to, Zach is deep in the fucking, Zach's checked out.

• 1:15:27Speaker 02

I was told to look up.

• 1:15:29Speaker 01

  Look at that guy.

• 1:15:30Matt Farah?

  We have, we have.

• 1:15:31Speaker 01

160D there. 60, sorry, 1680D. Look at this guy.

• 1:15:35Speaker 02

  That horse looks terrified.

• 1:15:37Speaker 01

The horse has been doing cocaine, lad.

• 1:15:39Speaker 02

  He's writing the new music.

• 1:15:41Matt Farah?

Um, fuck me. Uh, good news, uh, before we get to, we got some Patreon questions, I'm sure we do.

• 1:15:49Speaker 02

  Definitely.

• 1:15:49Matt Farah?

Before we get to them, my Lamborghini engine is in America.

• 1:15:53Speaker 01

  Oh, no kidding?

• 1:15:54Matt Farah?

  It's back in America.

• 1:15:55Speaker 01

Which part of America? It's a big country.

• 1:15:56Matt Farah?

It's in the port of Long Beach.

• 1:15:57Speaker 02

  Snuck through the terrace.

• 1:15:59Matt Farah?

Port of Long Beach. There are no tariffs, cause after much and much back and forth, I was able to convince people that I in fact already owned this engine.

• 1:16:06Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:16:07Matt Farah?

And it was not a new product.

• 1:16:09Speaker 01

  That's good.

• 1:16:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:16:10Speaker 01

I, I wish Amazon could have your power.

• 1:16:12Matt Farah?

It took way too long to be like, you don't understand, uh, this is already my engine.

• 1:16:18Speaker 02

Couldn't you just say like, look at the carburetors and they go, oh, carburetors, that's old.

• 1:16:21Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it doesn't have carburetors.

• 1:16:23Speaker 02

  It doesn't?

• 1:16:23Matt Farah?

  It's fuel injected.

• 1:16:24Speaker 02

  Oh, I thought, okay.

• 1:16:24Matt Farah?

Yeah, but, but either way, it's here.

• 1:16:26Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 1:16:27Matt Farah?

  It's here and it's.

• 1:16:28Speaker 01

  So, how long?

• 1:16:30Matt Farah?

We don't know, we don't know, we don't know. Uh, because.

• 1:16:32Speaker 01

  Who's getting it?

• 1:16:33Matt Farah?

It's gonna go to Damian at Franco's European Sports Cars.

• 1:16:36Speaker 01

That's the way to do it.

• 1:16:37Matt Farah?

But Damian has, um, like two projects ahead of me. But he was kind enough to agree to receive the engine in the crate. So at least I don't have to do the double shuffle with that.

• 1:16:47Speaker 01

  Have you been there?

• 1:16:49Matt Farah?

  It's small. I know it's small.

• 1:16:50Speaker 01

Have you seen the old guy with the shims?

• 1:16:52Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:53Speaker 01

You walk in, there's this old Italian dude with like. I don't know, 260 shims on a keychain.

• 1:17:00Matt Farah?

  Cool.

• 1:17:00Speaker 01

And he's got like, you know, quarter mil, fifth of a mil, whatever, and he could shim all the old Ferraris.

• 1:17:05Matt Farah?

This is how you set valves on. Fortunately, like, my car shouldn't need a valve adjustment for at least like 15 years at this point.

• 1:17:13Speaker 01

  Better not.

• 1:17:15Matt Farah?

No, I saw a video of the dyno was running, was running smooth. They didn't actually like measure the power, but they ran it on an engine dyno to like, you know.

• 1:17:25Speaker 01

  I mean, what, what, it's 86, so it's supposed to be 475, oh, 88, so 470, so 475.

• 1:17:32Matt Farah?

Something like that. I, mine's injected, so I think it's 445, not 475, but whatever.

• 1:17:38Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's enough for, yeah.

• 1:17:40Matt Farah?

So you know, we tried to do the semi Euro conversion and they couldn't do it. They, now they couldn't because they were like, kinda like, I don't know what they told you, but in 88, like, there's no actual difference between a Euro and a

• 1:17:55Speaker 01

  Right, right, right.

• 1:17:55Matt Farah?

And a US car, but the injected cars, unless you like, fully convert them to Euro, which actually means different heads, and a different compression ratio, like, you just like, you can't do it, like, you can't do like, just cams without this other shit. You can't do just this without that. So he's like, the best we can do is make it like, the most optimized than it could possibly be.

• 1:18:21Speaker 01

  Perfect.

• 1:18:21Matt Farah?

  Given what it is.

• 1:18:22Speaker 01

And Damien's great too. He can, he, he, he, he keeps those cars humming along just fine. I've driven a lot of his cars. They're good.

• 1:18:30Matt Farah?

The, the real question is, what part will be missing? We're gonna, we're gonna find out that something is missing, and I don't know what it is, and it's going to be a very interesting thing to find out.

• 1:18:41Speaker 01

I mean, the Countach V12 probably has the most parts of any engine.

• 1:18:45Matt Farah?

Well, the engine is complete, I mean, look, engine and gearbox are complete, so nothing in the engine is missing, but like, the whole suspension is disassembled, the whole wiring is disassembled, the whole, everything is disassembled.

• 1:18:59Speaker 01

Yeah, the wiring, that's, that's gonna be the killer.

• 1:19:03Matt Farah?

  We'll see.

• 1:19:04Speaker 01

Yeah, good luck. I wish you luck.

• 1:19:05Matt Farah?

We'll, we'll see. It's going to be, it's going to be an adventure.

• 1:19:09Speaker 01

Um, if I may, before we get to.

• 1:19:12Matt Farah?

Yeah, what do you got? Oh, you guys, your event coming.

• 1:19:15Speaker 01

Cars and Coffee. So me and Sang, uh, we've been doing this Cars and Coffee quarterly now. It's looking like at the.

• 1:19:21Matt Farah?

Is this the third or the fourth one?

• 1:19:22Speaker 01

  It's gonna be the third.

• 1:19:23Matt Farah?

Okay, I couldn't come to the second because I think I was in Italy.

• 1:19:26Speaker 01

It was, everyone was out of town. It was actually really fun. It was really nice. It was, it was, um, I won't name names, but it was, it was the day of the, uh, the, the riot in downtown LA. So a lot of people were like, I don't think I can risk coming. I'm like, yeah, yeah, man, like, and like, I was just like.

• 1:19:45Matt Farah?

I can't be fifteen miles from the two blocks where some people lit a little Waymo on fire.

• 1:19:54Speaker 01

  But, um.

• 1:19:55Matt Farah?

Which is objectively funny, even if you're a leftist.

• 1:19:57Speaker 01

Yes, yes. Uh, yeah, the Waymo on fire was kinda, was kinda great. But, um, we got Cars and Bids, uh, came on as a sponsor.

• 1:20:06Matt Farah?

  That's awesome.

• 1:20:06Speaker 01

Which is really, and they reached out. I didn't have to do anything and they were like, hey, we like what you're up to. This is our kind of event. And, and what's, what I like about what we've been doing at the Helm's Bakery Cars and Coffee is that it's not like, you know, fifty Pagani's. It's not that kind of show. It's just like, it's just a good mix of everything. And yeah, it's Cars and Bids. So it's like, I'm, I'm into it.

• 1:20:28Matt Farah?

I went to their Cars and Coffee at Pebble.

• 1:20:32Speaker 01

Yeah, I heard it was good. I, I couldn't make it.

• 1:20:34Matt Farah?

It was fun. It was fun. There was a good, a good scene going on. Um, I'd never met, uh, Filippo, who I really like.

• 1:20:42Speaker 01

Okay, I haven't, so I met him. I met Dan Harmon.

• 1:20:45Matt Farah?

Dan is cool. Yeah, Dan, the CEO, he's cool.

• 1:20:47Speaker 01

  I like him, yeah.

• 1:20:47Matt Farah?

I like Dan. Um, I hadn't met Filippo, who I do like. Kenan, Kenan's awesome. Um, Doug, what's funny is like Doug was there like later. I, I had to like leave to go take Hannah to the airport because she was flying home, but, uh, Doug got there later. But I, I mean, there, it was a nice event. They were, it was good. If they're just, if they're gonna do the same thing that they did there, which is just basically set up the thing and help you.

• 1:21:10Speaker 01

Exactly right. Yeah, they just, they just want, you know, they, they, look, they're. They wanna compete uh with Bring a Trailer. Bring a Trailer's been around longer, they're bigger, they just do what they can. So then and they and they, you know, they understand what that Helms Bakery Cars and Coffee, it's like pretty grassroots. But it's like the demographic that would buy cars from an auction site online.

• 1:21:32Matt Farah?

Are you guys also using the lot on the north side of Venice?

• 1:21:36Speaker 01

  Everything.

• 1:21:36Matt Farah?

Okay, so it's the lots between the buildings.

• 1:21:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:40Matt Farah?

The lot in front of the big lighting store.

• 1:21:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:43Matt Farah?

On Venice and the lot across Venice Boulevard.

• 1:21:46Speaker 01

  Two lots across Venice.

• 1:21:47Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:21:48Speaker 01

And you know, the first time.

• 1:21:49Matt Farah?

This is a little inside baseball if you're not from LA, but this part's important.

• 1:21:52Speaker 01

  Yeah, so so.

• 1:21:54Matt Farah?

It's not immediately obvious if you do the drive up.

• 1:21:56Speaker 01

The show is in the lots in the Helms Bakery complex.

• 1:21:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:00Speaker 01

There was overflow show across the street. I never walked over there, but that was going on. There was also like four blocks down Venice, but also on Washington, apparently there was cars parked down there.

• 1:22:09Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:22:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:10Matt Farah?

  That's like far.

• 1:22:11Speaker 01

Yeah. And then, you know, the second one was funny because it was like, it was again, it was like June 8th, everyone's on vacation slash the riots were happening. Riots in quotes. And but it was still really well attended, you know, and so it's it's it's cool. And and most importantly.

• 1:22:27Speaker 02

Hard to get a Waymo that day.

• 1:22:29Speaker 01

Hard to get a Waymo, but we have coffee available at starting at 7 a.m.

• 1:22:33Matt Farah?

That see, this is important. This is very important.

• 1:22:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:36Matt Farah?

Because the people who get there early to to to to be those people that are there early, we need a beverage.

• 1:22:43Speaker 01

So yeah, so the first time.

• 1:22:45Speaker 02

The talent that arrives and brings the cars.

• 1:22:46Matt Farah?

  We just need, yeah.

• 1:22:47Speaker 01

Yeah, we didn't know the first time.

• 1:22:48Matt Farah?

Almost nobody gets this right, by the way.

• 1:22:51Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:51Matt Farah?

The number of car shows that I've been to that are put on by professional organizations where I'm asked to show a car.

• 1:22:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:58Matt Farah?

And I'm happy to do it. And I go and I get there, they are, when can they be there? Well, between 7 and 7:30. I'm there at 7:02.

• 1:23:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:05Matt Farah?

Give me a cup of coffee.

• 1:23:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:07Matt Farah?

  So have that right.

• 1:23:08Speaker 01

You know, the first time we did it, we didn't do a ton of thinking, but we said, let's go from eight to 10. That seems like a fine amount of time for cars and coffee. Well, everybody showed up at 7:02.

• 1:23:17Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:18Speaker 01

And saying, he didn't know, so like to have coffee at 7 means he has to have two employees get there at 6:30.

• 1:23:24Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:23:25Speaker 01

  And he didn't have that.

• 1:23:26Matt Farah?

  No, no, I get it.

• 1:23:26Speaker 01

  Now we got it.

• 1:23:27Matt Farah?

I get it. No, you guys are figuring it out in real time. And I'm not bitching about you.

• 1:23:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:31Matt Farah?

And just saying that if you're out there.

• 1:23:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:34Matt Farah?

And you're the kind of person who's gonna put on events in your town.

• 1:23:37Speaker 01

  Have coffee.

• 1:23:38Matt Farah?

If the event starts at eight.

• 1:23:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:40Matt Farah?

But you have a load in for feature cars that starts at seven, your coffee starts at seven. It doesn't start at eight.

• 1:23:48Speaker 01

We learned that the first time we corrected it, it was fine. And I think we have coffee and breakfast burritos starting at seven.

• 1:23:53Matt Farah?

  Breakfast burritos are good.

• 1:23:54Speaker 01

  Oh dude, I mean, saying.

• 1:23:56Matt Farah?

You know, the food at, the food at Helms Baker is really good.

• 1:23:58Speaker 01

  Rocks.

• 1:23:59Matt Farah?

I, so I sat down with Scott, who is, is Scott's Malibu Market.

• 1:24:04Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. I, I went there for the first time yesterday.

• 1:24:07Matt Farah?

Former side of Bill's. And I, and I was boycotting for a while.

• 1:24:10Speaker 01

  Me too.

• 1:24:11Matt Farah?

Because of in support of Bill. And after a while, I realized that like boycotting in support of Bill.

• 1:24:17Speaker 01

  Does nothing for Bill.

• 1:24:18Matt Farah?

It does, it does nothing for Bill.

• 1:24:20Speaker 01

  Does nothing for you.

• 1:24:21Matt Farah?

For me, does nothing for Scott. It does nothing for anybody, honestly.

• 1:24:24Speaker 01

  Right, right, right.

• 1:24:25Matt Farah?

And Scott is a, is a good guy, and especially after the fires, their whole, the whole, everything up there was so fucked.

• 1:24:31Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:24:31Matt Farah?

So, so anyway, but I was asking him, I was like, alright, why is it? Cause this guy's pretty good at making breakfast. I go, why, why can't we have bacon, egg and cheese? A New York style bacon, egg and cheese.

• 1:24:42Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:24:42Matt Farah?

  Kaiser roll.

• 1:24:43Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:24:44Matt Farah?

  And he said, dude.

• 1:24:45Speaker 01

  Can't do a Kaiser roll.

• 1:24:45Matt Farah?

The Kaiser rolls don't exist here.

• 1:24:48Speaker 01

Bullshit. Let me tell you why.

• 1:24:49Matt Farah?

Who has a Kaiser roll here?

• 1:24:50Speaker 01

  Brent's.

• 1:24:51Matt Farah?

  Brent's?

• 1:24:52Speaker 01

  Brent's.

• 1:24:53Matt Farah?

  Where are they?

• 1:24:53Speaker 01

That's the problem is where are they? But, um, so if I may, if I may plug my YouTube channel, um, me and Sang just shot, um, an episode where we, we, we, let's figure out the best pastrami sandwich in LA.

• 1:25:06Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:25:07Speaker 01

So it was me and Sang, went to Langer's, went to Cantor's, went to Brent's. And Brent says a sandwich called the 555, which is Kaiser roll. I think they bake the bread themselves. And Sang was really, I don't know how much time he spent with Sang, but like, I took him to Pizza Ray's Say, which is like number one on every list of best pizza in the world.

• 1:25:25Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:26Speaker 01

And he's like, what do you think? He's like, you can tell the chef has some fine dining experience. That's all he would say. He wouldn't say it was good. And he's eating.

• 1:25:34Matt Farah?

This is like me bringing Chris into a concert.

• 1:25:38Matt Farah?

  It's a brutal experience.

• 1:25:40Speaker 01

So he eats the 555 and he's like, this is one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. I'm gonna call this the 101010, you know? It's, I can't even tell you how good this sandwich is.

• 1:25:53Matt Farah?

  This is the pastrami.

• 1:25:54Speaker 01

  It's called the 555, so it's a Kaiser roll. It's pastrami.

• 1:25:58Matt Farah?

But they don't make a bacon, egg and cheese there. We're just, we're just talking about the existence of the roll.

• 1:26:02Speaker 01

They might do a bacon, egg and cheese.

• 1:26:03Matt Farah?

Can you just buy the rolls?

• 1:26:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, I think you can.

• 1:26:07Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:26:07Speaker 01

  I think you can.

• 1:26:08Matt Farah?

  Right now, we're getting somewhere.

• 1:26:09Speaker 01

The problem with Brent's is it's in this weird Bermuda Triangle in the valley where somehow it's 20 minutes from any freeway.

• 1:26:15Matt Farah?

Oh, I know what you mean. That sucks.

• 1:26:18Speaker 01

It's just, it's hard to get to.

• 1:26:19Matt Farah?

I, but I have a solution for this. My solution for this is that Thaddeus works for Marco and has to commute down here. So Thaddeus can stop and pick us up the Kaiser rolls if I agree to make a bacon, egg and cheese on the other end, which I would.

• 1:26:35Speaker 01

Okay, and then the other, Brent's has a location in Westlake, so if you're ever out there for.

• 1:26:39Matt Farah?

  Boy, of course, fuck.

• 1:26:40Speaker 01

It takes as long to get to Westlake as it does to get to Northridge because you're off the freeway for 20 minutes and like, you know? But the Westlake one, I do a lot of stuff out in Malibu. It's just on the other side of the hill. You know, it's literally where Decker ends is at Brent's.

• 1:26:53Matt Farah?

Maybe if I'm playing golf. All right, so Kaiser roll does exist here somewhere.

• 1:26:57Speaker 01

Just Brent's. And I can't explain how good Brent's is.

• 1:27:01Matt Farah?

Well, I'm gonna need some Kaiser rolls and when I go to get them, I'll get one of these sandwiches and we'll try it. Let's go to the fucking people. Patreon.com slash the Smoking Tire Podcast. It's where you ask questions for the show. It's where you watch the live stream once Zach rebuilds the studio. It's where you catch the show before everyone else gets it or get the show without ads, get extra shows, et cetera, et cetera. Et, et cetera.

• 1:27:26Speaker 01

  Et cetera.

• 1:27:26Matt Farah?

  Et cetera.

• 1:27:29Matt Farah?

Zach, can I have the questions, please?

• 1:27:34Matt Farah?

  Utah presents the soaking tire.

• 1:27:37Speaker 02

Who's bouncing the bed? Who's bouncing the mattress?

• 1:27:42Matt Farah?

Oh, oh, this is a Mormon.

• 1:27:45Speaker 02

Stop sex if you don't move.

• 1:27:46Matt Farah?

  Oh, right.

• 1:27:47Speaker 01

And you get your roommate who's, uh, yeah, to bounce the bed.

• 1:27:51Matt Farah?

Uh, they request Johnny, uh, for more culinary content.

• 1:27:56Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, like, hey, on Driving with Johnny, we're gonna have me and Sang and Sang's a real There you go. Celebrity chef, eating pastrami and hopefully it's the first of many of, of food and car. I got, I got an S class, uh, to, to drive us. So I was like, pastrami eaters like Mercedes S classes.

• 1:28:14Speaker 02

I do like Jews people driving German cars.

• 1:28:19Speaker 01

Jews people driving German cars again, I mean, what more do you need?

• 1:28:22Matt Farah?

Dude, how were you able to restrain him?

• 1:28:25Speaker 01

  Sang?

• 1:28:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah, joke wise.

• 1:28:27Speaker 01

You know what was funny was, and I love saying, but like you turn the camera, you know, some people like aren't themselves. He wasn't himself.

• 1:28:34Matt Farah?

That's the problem with a lot of people.

• 1:28:36Speaker 01

He wasn't like, he wasn't like, shalom.

• 1:28:39Matt Farah?

  You and I are.

• 1:28:40Speaker 02

He has a business he wants to keep in existence.

• 1:28:43Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, he wasn't, he wasn't doing, uh, like, you know, Auschwitz jokes, which is uncharacteristic. So, yeah, uh, I, I should, I should actually, you know, um, Mr. Soaking Tire, cause your name's so good. I will do a bread making video and I will put it on Driving with Johnny, Baking with Johnny.

• 1:29:00Matt Farah?

You should, I do, I was doing the smoking fryer during pandemic.

• 1:29:03Speaker 01

  Smoking fryer was awesome.

• 1:29:04Matt Farah?

It was fun. I never made videos of it, I was just like, but people do like my ragu recipe.

• 1:29:08Speaker 01

I, I had like, my only like million view video was I just did like how to make bread.

• 1:29:13Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:29:13Speaker 01

During the pandemic and it was, you know, just went fucking viral, it was crazy.

• 1:29:17Matt Farah?

You should make some bread and then I will make the ragu and we can have a, uh, we can have a serious.

• 1:29:22Speaker 01

  I make Roman bread.

• 1:29:23Matt Farah?

A serious situation going. I make a cauldron of ragu. It takes like five hours.

• 1:29:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:29:30Speaker 02

You're like just make bread bowls.

• 1:29:31Speaker 01

  Bread bowl.

• 1:29:32Matt Farah?

  I don't do bread bowl.

• 1:29:33Speaker 02

I want that much of both, I'm just saying.

• 1:29:34Matt Farah?

I want, I want it on a big fat slice of fucking garlic bread.

• 1:29:38Speaker 01

I, um, uh, you know, uh, Mr. Simorasty, who owns Providence, who by the way, got his third mission.

• 1:29:43Matt Farah?

I saw that, yeah, sick. That meal was so good.

• 1:29:47Speaker 01

He was making a, a porketta at his house one time and I just took slices of some bread I made and just put it under the slowly rolling pork as it dripped onto it. Kind of the best thing I ever ate.

• 1:29:59Matt Farah?

  Just fucking pork fat.

• 1:30:00Speaker 01

Hour of pork fat dripping on a, on a really good bread.

• 1:30:03Matt Farah?

Bone marrow bread is like, yeah, that's next level.

• 1:30:07Speaker 01

So yes, I will do some food.

• 1:30:08Matt Farah?

Yeah, we should do some more. We should do some more food content. Mike, I, I, I made Benihana for the fucking Dollop guys. I wonder if they can do anything with that. Uh, Michael Cosgrove says, would Johnny buy another new EV today?

• 1:30:22Speaker 01

I would buy another Rivian. I love my Rivian so much. I don't even care that I lost a little bit of money on it. I, I mean, it has 36,000 miles and I think if I KB'd it, it would be worth 60 grand and I paid 76 for it. So whatever.

• 1:30:36Matt Farah?

  That's not so bad.

• 1:30:37Speaker 01

Not bad at all. Uh, I would buy, I, here's the thing. It's so weird. Like, I don't blindly like EVs. I like good EVs. I like EVs that function as EVs. You know what I mean? And like,

• 1:30:48Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:30:49Speaker 01

And I, I just, Rivian is, is just really good to own. So I would a hundred percent buy a brand new, uh, Rivian today. I don't know if I can afford it today, but I would buy one today if I could.

• 1:30:59Matt Farah?

Yeah. Uh, I wouldn't. I would probably lease a new one if it was within my lease budget. And I, I'm, I'm, we'll see if, I mean, so far my Taycan experience has been like pretty good. Although I took it in for, so dude, I had a, I had a fucking bit of karma work for me the other day. I took the car in for service. There's, there's, there's a recall on the Taycan battery, something, something. And owners were instructed to not charge the car to a hundred percent, blah, blah, blah. Took it in. They did the thing. Fine. While you're, and I had this weird problem where, uh, when it would be really hot outside and I would try to use the remote climate control, like pre-cool.

• 1:31:43Speaker 01

In other words, I'm getting in the car in five minutes.

• 1:31:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:45Speaker 01

  Turn on the AC.

• 1:31:46Matt Farah?

  Pre-cool.

• 1:31:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:31:47Matt Farah?

I would get an error in the app and it would say climate, it would say, you know, error, not blah. And then when I would go to get in the car to drive it after that. It would think the air conditioning was on, but it would not be blowing cold air.

• 1:32:01Speaker 01

  Oh, that's bad.

• 1:32:02Matt Farah?

So the way I called, I called Calvin, actually.

• 1:32:05Speaker 01

That's a good person to call. He's the head of four door Porsches in North America.

• 1:32:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:09Speaker 01

  That's who you call.

• 1:32:10Matt Farah?

  I'm privileged, I guess, but I called.

• 1:32:12Speaker 01

  Whatever.

• 1:32:13Matt Farah?

And he goes, yeah, I was, it was in the middle of Nevada.

• 1:32:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:15Matt Farah?

You gotta do what you gotta do. So he goes, okay, you gotta do a soft reset and that should fix it. So you basically get, turn off the car, get out, lock it, walk a hundred feet away for like three minutes.

• 1:32:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:26Matt Farah?

And come back and it should work.

• 1:32:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:28Matt Farah?

And it did. It totally did.

• 1:32:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:30Matt Farah?

And that happened one other time after that. I told the dealer and they couldn't reproduce it.

• 1:32:35Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:32:35Matt Farah?

Last time, because of course they couldn't.

• 1:32:37Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:32:38Matt Farah?

This time I go to take the car in for the battery recall service. It happens.

• 1:32:43Speaker 01

  Oh, nice.

• 1:32:44Matt Farah?

Going to the dealer, on the way to the dealer.

• 1:32:47Speaker 01

  Perfect.

• 1:32:47Matt Farah?

Normally like you, the thing, it never happens in front of them.

• 1:32:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:51Matt Farah?

This one, it's on the way. So I go, don't turn the car off. It's doing it. Get out the thermometer, like check, you know, check it. It's blowing fresh air, not cool. Okay, finally. So they figured out there's a sensor that's fucked.

• 1:33:03Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:33:03Matt Farah?

Cool. Great. Replace that shit. Warranty. No problem.

• 1:33:06Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 1:33:07Matt Farah?

Got the part in, called me Friday afternoon at like 4:59 PM. And they're like, yo, I'm really sorry, but the part is bad. Like the replacement part.

• 1:33:17Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:33:18Matt Farah?

  You know?

• 1:33:18Speaker 01

So they just bought a bad batch of shit.

• 1:33:20Matt Farah?

Yeah, like can we keep the car till Tuesday? And so they're, so they're gonna do it, but it's, but like it actually is like it was a real thing and they're fixing it for free. So there's my, there's my used Taycan update, but otherwise, otherwise fucking so far, so good.

• 1:33:33Speaker 01

So the Rivian soft reset is much better. It's just, you just push in both thumb buttons for like a couple of seconds.

• 1:33:39Matt Farah?

Oh, okay. So you can do it in the car?

• 1:33:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:33:41Matt Farah?

Yeah, okay. All right. So you gotta get out of the Taycan.

• 1:33:44Speaker 01

Both thumb wheels and then you push in the left button next to the thumb wheel and hold the hazard button or something like that. That's the hard reset, which I only had to do once.

• 1:33:53Matt Farah?

Yeah, hopefully I don't have to do a hard reset ever on, on my car, but yeah.

• 1:33:57Speaker 01

I mean, every time you do a software update, that's technically a hard reset.

• 1:34:00Matt Farah?

  Oh, is it?

• 1:34:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:34:01Matt Farah?

Okay, yeah. All right. Yeah, mine does a lot, a lot.

• 1:34:05Speaker 01

  Oh, really?

• 1:34:05Matt Farah?

Hannah complains that all like, probably like three days a week, we get a pop up notification. When she gets in the car in the morning and says there's been a software update.

• 1:34:17Speaker 01

  I mean.

• 1:34:17Matt Farah?

What I actually want is just to turn off the fucking notifications. Like I don't care that it's updated.

• 1:34:22Speaker 01

Cause like that's the thing is like, like that gen of, of, of that, what is it? The J1 platform or whatever? It was, it was just released too soon. They're just still doing updates.

• 1:34:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, I mean, sure. Uh, it was in general, like it doesn't bother me. It just bothers Hannah. Like, you know, for, I mean, pop up when pop up windows bother everybody. Who does? Who wants a fucking pop up? Just do it. You don't need to tell me. Just do it.

• 1:34:46Speaker 01

That's the thing with the Rivian. Like it's such a special moment when you get the notification. Like there's an update available and it's like, oh, what am I going to get? What am I? Cause they, they just add such cool shit to the car, you know? And like they had one the other week that was like just bug fixes and didn't do anything special. It was kind of like eh, but like the one before that was awesome. Like, like full Google Maps and like all this cool shit. Whoa. Yeah. It's really good.

• 1:35:08Matt Farah?

Uh, let's see. Uh, Buffett again, Warren says, I've looked around for R129s. Since you've talked about your experience with them and mentioned that they are likely bottomed out. Is the AMG worth the effort to find? Seems like they're pretty scarce. Well, by AMG, if you just mean the sport package, cause there was an SL 500, there was an SL 600, there was no 63 or any of that shit. So if you're talking about the AMG, the sport pack cars, I don't think they're that hard to find. I mean, probably a third to a half of all the R129s produced in the second half of the run.

• 1:35:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:35:46Matt Farah?

  Yeah. They're, dude.

• 1:35:50Matt Farah?

I'll tell a story that's going to make somebody look bad, but it's going to be funny. We went to this Cars and Coffee.

• 1:35:55Speaker 01

  Storytelling.

• 1:35:56Matt Farah?

I'm not a, not a specific person that I know.

• 1:35:58Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:35:59Matt Farah?

We went to Cars and Coffee on Sunday. It was put on by Myers Manks. It was cool. It was this like weird little store in Hollywood. It's very much one of those like LA brands. But you know, like 10 Mankses and a bunch of other random cars, some of which were incredibly cool, like an original Jaguar D-type and some other stuff like that. Sure. That roll up. It was like, okay.

• 1:36:19Speaker 01

Is there anything sexier than a D-type?

• 1:36:20Matt Farah?

  That's the best.

• 1:36:21Speaker 01

It really is the best. Yeah.

• 1:36:22Matt Farah?

  So, um.

• 1:36:24Matt Farah?

There's a, there's an, a red R129 SL500, red tan AMG wheels. Perfect, with the hard top on.

• 1:36:33Speaker 01

  Perfect, perfect, perfect.

• 1:36:34Matt Farah?

And I go to Hannah, I go, you see that one? I go, that one's just like ours that we had. But I go, there was like a $10,000 premium for red versus any other color.

• 1:36:42Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:36:43Matt Farah?

Oh, okay, cool, whatever. Well, they, they park it and they get out of the car and it's a couple. And the, the, the woman is driving the car into the lawn, I assume it's her car. She can't, the back window's kind of fogged up. She doesn't want to park it. So she gets out, he gets in and parks it. Okay. And then, once it's parked, they pull out a cooler and a lawn chair.

• 1:37:09Speaker 01

  Perfect.

• 1:37:09Matt Farah?

Put them in front of the car.

• 1:37:11Speaker 01

  Cars and coffee.

• 1:37:12Matt Farah?

And, and then they have, pull out some microfibers and just start dry wiping the shit out of this thing.

• 1:37:18Speaker 01

  Cars and coffee.

• 1:37:19Matt Farah?

Just dry wiping the whole car. And I'm just like, I had to look at this, like, oh my, the, the whole thing with this car is the red paint. And they're just rubbing, rubbing dust into it. And then the last cherry on top is they go into the trunk and pull out a for sale sign and put it on the window.

• 1:37:37Speaker 01

  How much?

• 1:37:38Matt Farah?

Well, it was $25,999, which is, dude, which is almost, and it had the same miles was when I sold mine. It had like 55,000 miles. And I sold mine for 17 grand. Then I was like, here we are, like five years later, six years later. 10, bottomed out. To answer the question, that's a bottomed out car with a $10,000 premium for red. If it was silver, it's 17 grand.

• 1:38:02Speaker 01

  They are such good cars.

• 1:38:05Matt Farah?

  Great.

• 1:38:05Speaker 01

Did you ever drive Camisas with the manual?

• 1:38:08Matt Farah?

No, but I, I, I know what it could be.

• 1:38:10Speaker 01

  Annoyingly, it was so nice.

• 1:38:12Matt Farah?

  Yeah, probably.

• 1:38:13Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I, that was like, I was like, cause I just, I don't know why, I just assumed the Mercedes manual would be really bad for some reason. It was so good. It was such a good car. Like it was, yeah.

• 1:38:24Matt Farah?

  Um, yeah.

• 1:38:25Speaker 01

Oh, here's a good one. Zach's underdried, underdrive pulley, uh, says, oh, wait a second, hang on. I'm kind of interested in this.

• 1:38:37Matt Farah?

This is gonna be a very easy question from Kurt. Loved your Hellcat wide-body track video. This is a video that's probably seven or eight years old at this point.

• 1:38:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:38:47Matt Farah?

Uh, what would you do to help it turn in and break better? And how much power should it have to help with its power-to-weight ratio?

• 1:38:55Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 1:38:56Matt Farah?

I go to Club Motorsports, Palmer, Watkins Glen, and Thompson. Wow.

• 1:39:00Speaker 01

Stay away from Watkins, uh, with that car. I mean, I, they're, the, the, the steering box on the, is he talking Charger or Challenger? So the, the Charger weirdly has a, has a better steering box than the Challenger.

• 1:39:15Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:39:15Speaker 01

There was a reason for it.

• 1:39:16Speaker 02

  Better, uh, weight balance, too.

• 1:39:17Speaker 01

Yeah. Um, so hopefully it's a Charger. Uh, I mean, brakes, you know, A-

• 1:39:23Matt Farah?

  So heavy, dude.

• 1:39:24Speaker 01

Tires, but like if you, if you get those off the Pirellis and put them on like PS4s, brakes are better, the, the handling's better. It really revolutionizes the car.

• 1:39:33Matt Farah?

I've never driven one that wasn't a press car, so I've ne- I've never driven one off of a-

• 1:39:38Speaker 01

I had a year long, I had one for a year and, uh, I finally put like, you know, I figured out somebody would give me free 305 with PS4s. And it, it, I did the same thing with the Jag F-Type. It just made all the difference in the world. Those Pirellis, like, they have no grip for whatever reason. That, that era of Pirelli, that's a big thing to do. Um-

• 1:39:59Matt Farah?

  Battery?

• 1:40:00Speaker 01

Yeah. The, um, the, the brakes, I mean, you can, I would do like stainless steel lines and better fluid.

• 1:40:07Matt Farah?

Your usual brake stuff, but I mean, this car is huge and heavy.

• 1:40:12Speaker 02

I just love the question of how do I improve the power-to-weight ratio? It's like, this has 700 horsepower.

• 1:40:16Matt Farah?

  No, it doesn't need that.

• 1:40:17Speaker 01

Yeah, wide-body's 797, by the way.

• 1:40:19Matt Farah?

  It's power, yeah.

• 1:40:20Speaker 01

Power-to-grip ratio, maybe, but- So Michelin's would, would, would help. Um, I would, they're not great track car. I have had a lot of fun in canyons with Hellcat wide-bodies.

• 1:40:30Matt Farah?

  They're fun 7/10 cars. They're not fun 10/10 cars.

• 1:40:34Speaker 01

But like, even, I don't know, I would say it was going a little harder than seven, but like, like, passing a 911, that's, you know, thinks they're, they're cool.

• 1:40:43Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 1:40:43Speaker 01

You're in like a cop car. Yeah, they're great. I love Hellcat Chargers and Chargers and stuff. And the things we said will improve it. But if you're looking to have like a real track car.

• 1:40:53Matt Farah?

  It's not a track car.

• 1:40:54Speaker 01

  Get Corvette.

• 1:40:55Matt Farah?

But did you, did you drive the one, there was one in the LA fleet that was, it was like dark blue with black steelies. Did you ever see that one? I was, that's my dream.

• 1:41:05Speaker 01

  Literal steelies?

• 1:41:06Matt Farah?

  Yeah, black steel wheels, yeah.

• 1:41:08Speaker 01

  On a Hellcat?

• 1:41:09Matt Farah?

On a Hellcat. It was not a, it was on a wide body. It was an original Hellcat.

• 1:41:12Speaker 01

  I've never seen that.

• 1:41:12Matt Farah?

It was like a dark blue, it was like Detective Spec Hellcat. It was so fucking crazy.

• 1:41:17Speaker 01

  Oh, it was great.

• 1:41:18Matt Farah?

Uh, Zach's underdrive pulley says when cars have lightweighting packages where they remove 80 pounds, can you feel the difference when it's a 3,000 pound car?

• 1:41:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:41:28Matt Farah?

I would say only if you drive the two cars back to back. If you don't drive the two cars back to back, unlikely.

• 1:41:34Speaker 01

Yeah, but I mean, you know, 80, 80 pounds, like.

• 1:41:36Matt Farah?

Depends how it's distributed also, if it's 80 pounds of like unsprung weight or whatever.

• 1:41:41Speaker 01

So I, I just, I just did a, um, a video on my YouTube channel, Driving with John. Um, we, we, we had the Corolla, the 25 versus my car, which is a 24.

• 1:41:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:41:52Speaker 01

But they only have automatics in the fleet right now for god knows what Toyota's thinking, but so. It had basically put 70 pounds, uh, on the front axle.

• 1:42:01Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:42:02Speaker 01

And, you know, huge difference. You could totally feel it. And again, they weigh basically the same. There's just 70 pounds in one really bad spot.

• 1:42:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:42:10Speaker 01

So, yeah, and that's about a 3,200 pound car.

• 1:42:13Matt Farah?

You can also feel it if cars, for instance, if you drive two cars and one has like a glass roof.

• 1:42:19Speaker 01

Oh, or a carving roof. Have you ever?

• 1:42:22Matt Farah?

I did that with, um, cause it's about where that weight is placed, not just the way it exists.

• 1:42:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, exactly.

• 1:42:29Matt Farah?

If you distribute 80 pounds evenly across a whole car.

• 1:42:33Speaker 01

  It's hard to tell.

• 1:42:33Matt Farah?

  You probably can't tell.

• 1:42:34Speaker 01

  Especially on the floor.

• 1:42:35Matt Farah?

Yeah, but like 80 off the roof or 80 off the, you know.

• 1:42:39Speaker 01

Yeah, but just on the front axle.

• 1:42:41Matt Farah?

30 pounds off the wheels, like wow.

• 1:42:43Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, huge difference.

• 1:42:44Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:42:44Speaker 01

Um, I was just gonna say, um, uh, like you've probably experienced this and usually it's in lower powered cars, but you put like me or you in the passenger seat of Miata and it really changes the car.

• 1:42:55Matt Farah?

Yeah, I just took a, I just took a heavy friend for a ride in a light car.

• 1:42:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:43:00Matt Farah?

And he was like, this is awesome. And I was like, you should see it without a you in it, you know?

• 1:43:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:43:07Matt Farah?

I say that as a heavy guy, but I'm, I'm, every car I drive has to default to me. I'm in it. So like, people are all like, well, he's fucking heavy. What is he? Dude, I'm in every car. So I, I'm a control sample. I'm not a variable.

• 1:43:20Speaker 01

Right, right, right. Plus you've lost like thirty pounds. So you're, you're.

• 1:43:23Matt Farah?

  Forty-two.

• 1:43:24Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:43:25Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:43:25Speaker 01

  What do you weigh now?

• 1:43:26Matt Farah?

  Two fifty-four.

• 1:43:27Speaker 01

Oh, fuck, I'm heavier than you.

• 1:43:29Matt Farah?

  Uh-oh.

• 1:43:29Speaker 01

  I'm two fifty-eight.

• 1:43:30Matt Farah?

Uh-oh. Yeah, if I get to two forty-eight, I'm, I, that's what I weighed as a junior in high school. That's what I'm trying to get to.

• 1:43:38Speaker 01

It's also what I weighed as a junior in high school. I played football. I was very heavy.

• 1:43:41Matt Farah?

If we both get to two forty-eight, we could fight.

• 1:43:43Speaker 01

  I don't want to fight. Let's not.

• 1:43:44Matt Farah?

If we both get to the same weight.

• 1:43:46Speaker 01

  We'll race at Cura.

• 1:43:47Matt Farah?

  For December.

• 1:43:48Speaker 01

  December.

• 1:43:48Matt Farah?

  Then it will truly be.

• 1:43:51Speaker 01

  But.

• 1:43:51Matt Farah?

It will truly be a no excuses race.

• 1:43:55Speaker 02

If one of you blames ten pounds on the difference in lap time.

• 1:44:00Speaker 01

I've already got all my excuses lined up.

• 1:44:01Speaker 02

  I'm calling this, Stuart.

• 1:44:03Speaker 01

I do have a new, I do have a new racing suit coming, which I'm very excited about.

• 1:44:06Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:44:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:44:07Matt Farah?

I might need a new one.

• 1:44:07Speaker 01

  It turns out.

• 1:44:08Matt Farah?

  Want a new one.

• 1:44:09Speaker 01

Turns out a good friend of mine, like, owns a really famous racing suit company. I don't know if, I don't know if she wants it publicized.

• 1:44:17Matt Farah?

  I guess suit too.

• 1:44:18Speaker 01

Let me talk to her. Let me talk to her.

• 1:44:19Matt Farah?

It's a good suit. My, I, my last suit is fine, but it's off the rack and I don't know, a couple of years old.

• 1:44:24Speaker 01

So when I, when I did Pikes, I got, I got hooked up, no, hang on, I got hooked up with HRX, right?

• 1:44:30Matt Farah?

  Uh-huh.

• 1:44:30Speaker 01

And it's through, through, uh, Jamie, um, um, Mara.

• 1:44:34Matt Farah?

  Mara.

• 1:44:35Speaker 01

And, uh, you, you can order a suit and like, there's twenty different measurements. Like, you know, my wife's got a tape measure.

• 1:44:40Matt Farah?

  Pain in the ass, yeah.

• 1:44:41Speaker 01

And I do it and it's like, do you want tight, normal, or loose? I'm like, my whole life, all I've wanted is a loose racing suit.

• 1:44:49Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:49Speaker 01

My whole life. So I say loose. They're Italian. It comes, I'm, I'm a fucking, I'm a stuffed sausage. I can't even tie my shoes. Like, it hurts to bend my leg. So, so, so Bugatti's doing this thing and Bugatti's gonna give me another HRX racing suit. So I take my original measurements and I had a centimeter everywhere and then two centimeters in the balls.

• 1:45:10Matt Farah?

  Very important.

• 1:45:11Speaker 01

And I have the greatest racing suit in the world, but it says Bugatti on the back and everyone hates it. Cause like.

• 1:45:17Matt Farah?

Yeah, you can't wear that out.

• 1:45:18Speaker 01

Bugatti guy, but it's like, it's the perfect suit. It's a.

• 1:45:22Matt Farah?

I hope you wrote down the measurements.

• 1:45:24Speaker 01

I have the measurements. I have the, yeah, I have the measurements. So.

• 1:45:27Matt Farah?

That shit's important, man. You can't, when you, when you are getting a custom thing made like that, yeah, you gotta take into account.

• 1:45:34Speaker 01

  Country of origin.

• 1:45:35Matt Farah?

  If it's Italy.

• 1:45:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:45:37Matt Farah?

  Boy, do you need.

• 1:45:37Speaker 01

  But I asked.

• 1:45:38Speaker 02

Yeah, the XL is an American small.

• 1:45:40Speaker 01

Fuck. But have you, have you ever like seen a guy in a loose fitting race suit and you're like, oh, that looks so good.

• 1:45:46Matt Farah?

  Oh, I have one.

• 1:45:46Speaker 01

  You do?

• 1:45:47Matt Farah?

  Oh, it's the best.

• 1:45:48Speaker 01

Bastard. Yeah. Well, now I do. Now I do. Yeah.

• 1:45:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's luxury living.

• 1:45:52Speaker 01

But my Pike suit is the wor- it's like, it, it literally to tie my shoes, I had to put my foot on a, on a, a, a step of an F-150 and lean. And then jump off and then like I, I, I do practice session and my hips would hurt because it was so tight.

• 1:46:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:46:09Speaker 01

  It was so bad.

• 1:46:09Matt Farah?

No, loose suit is where it's at.

• 1:46:11Speaker 01

  It's where it's at.

• 1:46:13Matt Farah?

  Hofmeister nipple clamps.

• 1:46:16Speaker 02

Love it. Such a good name.

• 1:46:18Matt Farah?

I had a Blob I S T I and a nine nine six. Apparently I like cars with disliked headlights.

• 1:46:24Speaker 01

  Good for you.

• 1:46:25Matt Farah?

Are there any other fun cars with generally disliked headlights I should lust after?

• 1:46:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, Diablo's.

• 1:46:30Matt Farah?

People don't like Diablo's. The three hundred ZX headlights are turn off.

• 1:46:34Speaker 01

  They're great.

• 1:46:34Matt Farah?

I have, I, it doesn't bother me at all.

• 1:46:36Speaker 01

Not only that, I, I just, I just drove a Diablo GT, which by the way.

• 1:46:40Matt Farah?

  They're rad.

• 1:46:41Speaker 01

  Which.

• 1:46:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah, they're rad.

• 1:46:43Speaker 01

But, um, that was Reggioni's like first thing at Lamborghini.

• 1:46:46Matt Farah?

Oh, really? I didn't know that.

• 1:46:47Speaker 01

He's one of the individual throttle bodies. Um, but they, they put a little piece of carbon fiber covering the word Nissan. So to me it's perfect.

• 1:46:55Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:46:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:46:56Matt Farah?

That's the most Lamborghini shit ever.

• 1:46:58Speaker 01

  Ever. It's just great.

• 1:46:59Matt Farah?

  That's awesome.

• 1:47:00Speaker 01

  Um, yeah, that's the one.

• 1:47:02Matt Farah?

Daddy Doug's shorts. If you were making a Mount Rushmore of Porsche's greatest hits, what would it be?

• 1:47:08Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:47:09Matt Farah?

First, you'd have to take some tribal land. Then you can talk about.

• 1:47:14Speaker 01

I got two. I'll give you two.

• 1:47:16Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:47:16Speaker 01

I would say the five fifty Spider.

• 1:47:18Matt Farah?

  Uh huh.

• 1:47:18Speaker 01

And I would say, uh, the very obscure, but nineteen fifty-three America Roadster. And Seinfeld agrees with me. That's it.

• 1:47:27Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:47:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:47:27Matt Farah?

Mine would be the nine nine seven G G three R S four point O.

• 1:47:32Speaker 01

Oh, oh, yeah, yeah. A hundred percent. Thousand percent.

• 1:47:35Matt Farah?

The nineteen. Seventy, uh, I guess this would be four, the, the, the 2.7 RS 3.0.

• 1:47:45Speaker 01

  Oh, the RSR.

• 1:47:46Speaker 02

  Got a 959.

• 1:47:47Matt Farah?

The, no, I wouldn't do that. I would say the, the, uh, 85 Carrera Club Sport that I drove. That was like 2200 pounds and 250 horsepower and felt like it was 800 horsepower.

• 1:48:01Speaker 01

Let me just add one. I drove recently a 73 RSR L lightweight.

• 1:48:08Matt Farah?

  What is that?

• 1:48:08Speaker 01

It's the lightweight. And so, um, the non sunroof, uh, so they're, they're called the RSLs, but it's RS lightweights. The, the non sunroof one sold for like 2 point something million. The one I drove had a sunroof. So it's only 2 million bucks. And everyone's like, could you tell the difference? And I was like, go fuck yourself. Like, it was, it was such a wow car. It's just like, like, like, cause an R, like, like, like a 73 RS is like about 800 grand. And this pulls like 200 pounds out of the car and it has all like the R stuff, like the, you know, it's not as hardcore as an R. Oh, it's so much fun.

• 1:48:42Matt Farah?

  They do lightweighting very well.

• 1:48:44Speaker 01

They did do lightweighting very well.

• 1:48:46Matt Farah?

They did do like, yeah. And they, up until, you know, I drove a 964 Club Sport that was very, very good.

You're, you're, you're so right on the 4.0. I forgot about that for a second. 4.0 is the greatest car in the world.

• 1:48:58Matt Farah?

I berated somebody at a Cars and Coffee on Saturday because their RS 4.0 had tires from 2012 on it.

• 1:49:05Speaker 01

  Oh, what?

• 1:49:07Speaker 01

Um, but it was, I was just real quick with the lightweighting. I remember I went on the launch of the Cayman R.

• 1:49:12Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:49:13Speaker 01

Do you remember that? Were you there?

• 1:49:14Matt Farah?

Uh, I wasn't on the launch. I got it as a press car. Interesting car.

• 1:49:17Speaker 01

So the launch was great because they, they actually literally took over a church and they put the Cayman R on the pew. And I'm like, I'm an atheist and I find this very disrespectful.

• 1:49:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:49:29Speaker 01

It was very strange, but, um, they were like talking about how, oh yes, we're saving all this weight with, we got rid of the door handles and we have pulls. And I'm like, you still got vanity mirrors. And they're like, yeah, you gotta crash a car, like. Yeah.

• 1:49:43Matt Farah?

Uh, username, have you, having both made a career in the industry, do you ever find yourself burned out on cars?

• 1:49:50Speaker 01

No, never, not for one second.

• 1:49:52Matt Farah?

Occasionally for short periods of time, and then I go on vacation with my wife to something unrelated to cars, and then coming back to work is great.

• 1:50:01Speaker 01

Oh, oh, I get burned out on the job, but like, I could, as busy as I've ever been, I can sit and talk about cars all night long, which I did at your house last night.

• 1:50:09Matt Farah?

Yeah, which is what most of our conversations are like anyway.

• 1:50:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, never, never, never.

• 1:50:14Matt Farah?

Uh, Granny shifting not double clutching like you should says, Johnny, now that you've started your channel, thoughts on the timing of it, should you have started one earlier, or are you fine with how things turned out?

• 1:50:27Speaker 01

Zach and I had this conversation last night in your kitchen. Um, I should have done it 10 years ago, 100,000%. Um, I had this really nice contract with Motor Trend for a long time. It was a really, really financially good contract, and then it went away. And, uh, and then it took me like a year of like, oh, I don't have any money to like, realize I should do something.

• 1:50:49Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:50:50Speaker 01

You know, uh, I was kind of just burning through my savings. Um, 1,000, 1,000%. I totally waited too long. Now I'm old and uglier and fatter and probably not gonna be that successful, but yeah, totally, totally fucked up.

• 1:51:02Matt Farah?

The times it starts, things like that is yesterday, always.

• 1:51:05Speaker 01

But I did it, and it's going and it's doing well and making money and got an advertiser.

• 1:51:10Matt Farah?

  There you go.

• 1:51:10Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:51:11Matt Farah?

  Ads are good.

• 1:51:12Speaker 01

  Ads are great, yeah.

• 1:51:13Matt Farah?

Uh, last one, and then we are calling the game, cause I'm gonna go home to my wife and go to sleep. Uh, not for you go, says, what examples of stealth wealth do you see in your region? Uh, I live in a poor state where it's rare to see any form of exotic car, however, it's pretty common to see very expensive RVs and boats.

• 1:51:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:51:32Matt Farah?

Yeah, that's, that's, sometimes not stealth with the RVs and boats, but most people don't know how much that shit costs.

• 1:51:38Speaker 01

Yeah, that's true, but we're in LA, there's no such thing as stealth wealth. It's, people are haunted.

• 1:51:43Matt Farah?

They do, but also like, for instance, like... You'll see people wearing like, I would say that like a Paul Newman Daytona is a stealth wealth thing. If you don't, it's not gold or diamonds or shiny. It just looks like an old wall, you know? There's a lot of that, like vintage stuff.

• 1:52:03Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:52:03Matt Farah?

Where, you know, you've got the real thing that other people are copying. Like that's that and like, that and the shit in LA where it's like, you're wearing a sweater, but your sweater's like $4,000 and it's.

• 1:52:16Speaker 01

I feel like you can kind of tell. I see guys in like $500 t-shirts and I kind of know it's a $500 t-shirt.

• 1:52:22Matt Farah?

Sometimes you do, but other times, yeah.

• 1:52:25Speaker 01

Yeah. Um, yeah, but like, but in terms of cars, like the Phaeton was a real big flop in Los Angeles. It just flopped out. It didn't say S500 on it.

• 1:52:35Matt Farah?

No, and people in this city, if they, it's very rare that they want to hide like that.

• 1:52:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:52:42Matt Farah?

You know, where it's, I mean, Land Cruisers is where you would do that. And even then, it'll be kind of.

• 1:52:49Speaker 01

People like to advertise their success, but the, but the stealthy thing is the vintage money. It's right, like vintage car, icon Bronco. If you don't know, you might just go, oh, it's a cool Bronco. That's a nice, it looks pretty refurbished. You know, like those $400,000.

• 1:53:03Matt Farah?

Yeah. Or if you have the, the Porsche 356 Carrera with the four cam versus whatever.

• 1:53:10Speaker 01

If you just have a 356 though, like they're, they're so expensive for just a, you know, like a, a, you know, a B or whatever.

• 1:53:15Matt Farah?

  Sure. Economies of scale.

• 1:53:17Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's, yeah. Um, we don't have like, you know, he's talking about boats and RVs, but also like the, the six-figure truck, while it totally exists here, they don't stand out, but like, you know, you go to other states and like.

• 1:53:30Matt Farah?

  The King Ranch 450, whatever.

• 1:53:32Speaker 01

Yeah, but just all the, the amount of aftermarket work done on trucks and like, like every truck in Texas has that Texas front bumper. Every single one.

• 1:53:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:53:41Speaker 01

And just done up and they're all custom. It's, it's, it's really a part of the culture, which is like trucks and RVs. LA is just, you know, it's a big city, emphasis on city. You go out to like, uh, you know, Santa Clarita or something like that. There's a lot more truck culture, I would say. I think when I see pre like real pre runners here, like someone took a Raptor. Yeah, yeah. And it widened it and it's got three chamber King shocks and I go, that's a $50,000, $100,000 add to a Raptor. Like, that's kind of sneaky. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, but even but even a Raptor is like not stealthy in any way, shape or form, you know? Yeah, but you but most people would go, oh, the truck with big wheels. Like, no, no, no. Especially if it's if it's hauling a Can-Am like four, you know, four seater Can-Am that's got a bunch of shit on it.

• 1:54:25Speaker 01

You can build $100,000 Can-Ams. Oh, yeah. You know, you can put a lot into it. The other thing, I I can't remember, was it Chevy or Ford or somebody? But like, turns out like, Southern, I think Southern California is the biggest market for Chevy Silverados in the country. Yeah. We just have population. Southern California is huge. Huge. And once you go outside the metro LA area, yeah, they're selling tons of them. But even even we just don't notice them, even in the metro LA area, they're selling tons of them because people use trucks all the time for all kinds of shit. Yeah. Um, that's our show, folks. Thank you for joining us today. I'm sorry if we got a little flustered at the beginning because we had to rebuild our panel over there. We'll get that sorted eventually. I ordered the cable already. Did you? Well, that's what you were doing over there. Shout out to Andrew of the Independent State.

• 1:55:09Speaker 01

Half shout out. He could have sent some better shiz. Come on. It was good educational experience. I enjoyed it. Yeah. In addition to this weirdness, you sent a, he sent a thing that you said was incredibly valuable and rare and special. So. Do you want to talk about what that is? Because that's like pretty wild. No. Okay. Yeah. He's he's he did send. Bonus. He did send one ounce of unicorn juice.

• 1:55:31Speaker 01

And I mean, if you like, yeah, you could, you could Google what that is. Yeah. Maybe look for like Colonel Taylor with the other nomenclature. And like the prices are like, I mean, like five figures. All right. Well, we're not, we're not selling it. We're, we're, oh, it's not, it's not, yeah, we're gonna taste it, but later, later on a special day. Thank you to our patrons. If we didn't get to your questions today, we will save them for the next crew show. We will be back, what, tomorrow, Zach, huh? Tomorrow morning, tomorrow morning with a new board and maybe even a power cable and hopefully, God, yeah. Bezos, Bezos willing, Lord Bezos.

• 1:56:10Speaker 01

No, if you tried to get like, I've been ordering a lot of new gear, like terrorists are fucking hounding the ability to get stuff shipped. Like, I have a new Osmo that's like. Been delayed five times.

• 1:56:21Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:56:21Speaker 01

  Sanity, yeah.

• 1:56:22Matt Farah?

Well, there's a lot of countries that are just not sending mail here now.

• 1:56:26Speaker 01

China weirdly is still sending mail, but like it was supposed to be here on the 22nd and then it was supposed to be here today and I got a note like UPS had a problem. I was like, what does that mean? You know, like.

• 1:56:37Matt Farah?

  The problem's name is Trump.

• 1:56:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:56:39Matt Farah?

Thanks, everybody. Hopefully our gear can arrive. We can continue to make a show because it's actually a global economy, whether you want to believe it or not. Bye.
