I don't really know signs, but let me just remember Virgo is what February? No.

• 0:03Drew Afualo?

No, you're actually so far off.

• 0:14Drew Afualo?

Hey everyone and welcome back to another episode of the comment section show starring me, your fav, everybody knows me, who cares about me. Onto the guests today, we have the iconic, the legendary, the hilarious, the multifaceted and talented, D'arcy Carter.

• 0:30Drew Afualo?

Oh my goodness, welcome to the show.

• 0:32Speaker 00

  Thanks for having me.

• 0:33Drew Afualo?

Thank you for coming. I appreciate that.

• 0:35Speaker 00

I'm thrilled to be with another tall girl.

• 0:38Drew Afualo?

I know you are a tall girl. Oh my gosh. I love that about us. We are.

• 0:43Speaker 00

  Rare.

• 0:44Drew Afualo?

  Rare.

• 0:44Speaker 00

  Rare.

• 0:45Drew Afualo?

On paper, what does it say how tall you are?

• 0:47Speaker 00

  Well, I think I'm 5'11".

• 0:49Drew Afualo?

  Really?

• 0:50Speaker 00

  Yeah, is that on paper?

• 0:51Drew Afualo?

  Mine's six feet.

• 0:51Speaker 00

  Yeah, I never hit six.

• 0:53Drew Afualo?

It depends, I think for me, like it depends on who's measuring me and if they have something against me.

• 0:58Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 0:58Drew Afualo?

  I think, like a vendetta.

• 1:00Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:00Drew Afualo?

But I do, I do love a fellow tall girl. That's how I felt about Lucy.

• 1:03Speaker 00

  Yeah, Lucy, my tall girl.

• 1:05Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:05Speaker 00

Trying to keep my shoulders back.

• 1:07Drew Afualo?

Even, even with her, I was like, I was telling her, I'm six feet and you're tall. And she was like, really? Cause she's 5'11".

• 1:13Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:13Drew Afualo?

And I was like, yeah. And then she made me stand up again so we could stand up next to you.

• 1:16Speaker 00

You always have to kind of do the stand.

• 1:18Drew Afualo?

And she was like, oh wait, yeah, you are.

• 1:20Speaker 00

  No, you are.

• 1:21Drew Afualo?

  A hair taller.

• 1:22Speaker 00

  Yeah, she's 5'11".

• 1:24Drew Afualo?

Not that it matters honestly, because I think anyone that sees us is like 6'5".

• 1:27Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:28Drew Afualo?

About, yeah. It's about the same.

• 1:30Speaker 00

Yeah, anything over 5'10". They're like, and you're seven feet tall.

• 1:34Speaker 00

Yeah, it is so funny how, my aunt is, I think, six feet, but we, my, since I've been this tall, which is truly since I was a child.

• 1:42Drew Afualo?

  Fucking same.

• 1:42Speaker 00

You know, I, we always do the measure. We always like, every time I see her, we have to do like butt to butt. She's still taller than me.

• 1:49Drew Afualo?

That's me to my younger brother.

• 1:50Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:50Drew Afualo?

Because my older, I'm a middle child. So my older sister is 5'4".

• 1:56Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:57Drew Afualo?

And, cause my mom is 5'3".

• 1:58Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:59Drew Afualo?

But my dad, my dad is 6'6".

• 2:01Speaker 00

  He's gonna be 6'6".

• 2:01Drew Afualo?

So it was a real like

• 2:03Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 2:03Drew Afualo?

toss up for all of us.

• 2:04Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 2:04Drew Afualo?

So my sister stopped growing in sixth grade.

• 2:07Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 2:07Drew Afualo?

I grew four inches from seventh to eighth.

• 2:10Speaker 00

  For sure, the same.

• 2:11Drew Afualo?

I went from five four to five eight in one year. When I came back, they were like, who is this gentleman? On campus. And so I was five eight and then when I went into high school, I was like, that that's enough slices. I don't want to grow anymore.

• 2:25Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 2:26Drew Afualo?

  No more.

• 2:26Speaker 00

I sort of feel like I was five ten in like sixth grade.

• 2:30Drew Afualo?

  Really?

• 2:30Speaker 00

I should look at a picture. I definitely was from elementary on was always like one of the tallest in my class.

• 2:37Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 2:38Speaker 00

But then there was a moment in high school when I was on the basketball team where I wasn't the tallest girl. There were like three or four girls taller than me.

• 2:46Drew Afualo?

Love that. That's where you gotta go.

• 2:47Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 2:47Drew Afualo?

  You gotta go seek community.

• 2:49Speaker 00

Yes, exactly. I was always the center and then I got to high school and I was like, I'm practically a point guard.

• 2:55Drew Afualo?

So small and dainty. Yeah, that was, uh, I never played basketball ironically, even though I was big.

• 3:01Speaker 00

  And I'm sure everyone's saying.

• 3:02Drew Afualo?

But I did play volleyball. Yeah, so it's the it's the other tall person.

• 3:05Speaker 00

You can play this or that.

• 3:06Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and I my main sport was soccer. So that was like when I when I played soccer, everyone was like, the biggest soccer player I've ever seen in my life.

• 3:13Speaker 00

Cause soccer players are usually mommy sized.

• 3:15Drew Afualo?

Yes. Right, exactly. Itty bitty, bitty, tiny.

• 3:19Speaker 00

My other sport or my main sport was water polo.

• 3:22Drew Afualo?

  See, I tried water polo.

• 3:25Speaker 00

  One time and said no.

• 3:27Drew Afualo?

My mom and dad liked to do this fun thing where they would just come home and be like, you're gonna try this sport.

• 3:32Speaker 00

  And you're like.

• 3:32Drew Afualo?

And me and my sister were like, why?

• 3:34Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 3:34Drew Afualo?

And they're like, just in case, you never know.

• 3:36Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 3:36Drew Afualo?

So my mom was like, you guys should try water polo. I was like, I don't, I'm like a good swimmer, but like leisurely. I wouldn't say I'm like that kind of good swimmer.

• 3:44Speaker 00

  Wanting to, yeah.

• 3:45Drew Afualo?

And then my mom was like, too late, already signed you up. And we're like, okay, so we're, my dad was like, looking up things they do in water polo.

• 3:52Speaker 00

It's like, I guess if you're good at soccer, you would be good. I mean, you would know the rules.

• 3:56Drew Afualo?

  I guess, yeah.

• 3:57Speaker 00

  It's like above water soccer.

• 3:58Drew Afualo?

  Okay, see, interesting.

• 4:00Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 4:00Drew Afualo?

But we were learning like egg beater, right? All that to say about the water. I wasn't treading very well, but they were like, let's go to the, I almost said audition. To the tryout.

• 4:09Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 4:09Drew Afualo?

So when we went to the tryout, they first made us swim a mile, which is like up and back two times, I think. Yeah, like, I don't even know.

• 4:17Speaker 00

Um, wait, I think, would you say, don't jump me?

• 4:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 4:21Speaker 00

Yeah. I might jump you. I don't think it's two. Well, maybe like in an Olympic size or something like that.

• 4:26Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it was an Olympic sized pool.

• 4:27Speaker 00

  A mile?

• 4:28Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that's why I was like, that's a lot of, okay. And again, like, I couldn't do it.

• 4:33Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 4:33Drew Afualo?

  Obviously, I had no training.

• 4:35Speaker 00

  No.

• 4:35Drew Afualo?

So when I was swimming, at one point, I just started walking because I was tall enough to reach. And then they were like, no walking. And I was like, I'm not walking, even though my shoulders are out and I'm going.

• 4:43Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 4:46Drew Afualo?

My sister and I did so poorly on that part of the tryout that they sent us home.

• 4:50Speaker 00

  Damn.

• 4:50Drew Afualo?

I didn't even get to the water polo.

• 4:51Speaker 00

Short sighted on their end. Cause you could get better at swimming.

• 4:55Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 4:56Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 4:56Drew Afualo?

But they were probably like, yeah.

• 4:58Speaker 00

You were also like, I don't give a fuck.

• 5:00Drew Afualo?

I know, I was like, oh, thank God.

• 5:01Speaker 00

  Want to do this.

• 5:02Drew Afualo?

No, I actually went home and it was really sick because I drank too much pool water.

• 5:05Speaker 00

Mm hmm. Cause you're swallowing, you're gulping it down.

• 5:08Drew Afualo?

Was your mouth open the whole time? I go, I don't know, probably. I can't remember.

• 5:14Speaker 00

It was, there was like a little learning curve there, especially because I was like, when we started, I had no, I had never played before. It's not like a sport that you just sort of like, play as a kid, the way you would with baseball or basketball or anything. So, yeah, learning how to do that. But that, that was, if I could go back in time to your little baby self.

• 5:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 5:33Speaker 00

I would say it's just soccer above the water, with your hands above the water.

• 5:37Drew Afualo?

That would help me a lot. I think so.

• 5:39Speaker 00

Was hard. What, my team was really good. And like, half the girls were amazing swimmers and then the other half were you and me.

• 5:46Drew Afualo?

Which is just like, strong. Which is kind of there. Big, big, strong athletic. I love that about you. There's not many people in this industry that are athletic.

• 5:53Speaker 00

  No, that's true.

• 5:53Drew Afualo?

And that's no tea, no shade. It's just the truth.

• 5:55Speaker 00

It's just the truth. Yeah. Because you kind of had to choose one or the other. You kind of had to like go, you would take theater or, well, honestly, like.

• 6:01Drew Afualo?

Right. You're right, though. I, I'm with you on that. Yeah.

• 6:04Speaker 00

In, in junior high and high school, I really split my time between both. And then when it was time for college, it was like, do I want to go to college for water polo? And then what? Or and then what?

• 6:14Drew Afualo?

That's exactly how I felt too about my sport because I played. I played soccer at a pretty high level since I was like seven, so I was playing travel ball since I was seven. So like that was my plan. I was like, I'm gonna get a soccer scholarship. I even was telling my friend the other day, I was like. It really got to a point where I it was so serious and I was getting recruited so young that I was like, man, this is just my life. Like I was literally thinking.

• 6:34Speaker 00

  Soccer girl.

• 6:35Drew Afualo?

I'm gonna, I'm gonna go to college and then I'm gonna make the national team and then I'm just gonna have to play soccer for the rest of my life. Like that's what I would tell myself.

• 6:41Speaker 00

  I can already see it.

• 6:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, but it wasn't in a way that I was excited about. It was more so in a like.

• 6:46Speaker 00

Right, like as if you were like an electrician and you're just like, this is my lot in life. My dad's an electrician.

• 6:54Drew Afualo?

For real. Well, I think the athleticism is really cool to hear and also I think did that help you at all when you were on a league of their own?

• 7:01Speaker 00

Yeah, it totally did. Although you know, it's so funny because. Like I would say half the, I almost just said team, half the cast had played baseball or softball growing up and the other half hadn't at all. And you don't, the viewer wouldn't necessarily know because they could do all the little tricks and everything.

• 7:18Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:19Speaker 00

But I felt really confident. I mean, Abby J.

• 7:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:22Speaker 00

  Short for Jacobson.

• 7:25Speaker 00

  And.

• 7:25Drew Afualo?

Just in case for the listener at home.

• 7:27Speaker 00

Yeah, um, we both played softball growing up and and and Shontay Adams. Was the, I think the first person, I don't remember, whatever. The three of us were the first people in the show.

• 7:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 7:39Speaker 00

And we would um, practice with a coach like three times a week, leading up to shooting the pilot and as girls.

• 7:47Drew Afualo?

  Damn, how was that?

• 7:48Speaker 00

  It was rad.

• 7:50Drew Afualo?

I bet. I was gonna say.

• 7:51Speaker 00

It was incredible. And it was for so long. I can't remember exactly how long, but actually now that I think about it, it was like. I want to say like October to February, something insane. Like we, the casting process was so long. The casting process was so long. Good. It's like, were so long? No. That um, just every time a new girl got cast, she would kind of like come into the team and start practicing with us.

• 8:14Drew Afualo?

  Mm hmm.

• 8:15Speaker 00

And. It made it so that and then and then the week leading up to the pilot, we did like a like a, you know, eight hours a day, like, you know, full on, like, baseball camp.

• 8:25Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 8:26Speaker 00

That when we started shooting, it was like we were truly a team. That sounds cheesy, but it was almost like.

• 8:31Drew Afualo?

No, but I love that. I think it's beautiful, especially if you're playing a team.

• 8:34Speaker 00

Totally. It was almost like the acting or like the, the, the show was like an afterthought for us. We were almost like, oh shit, we have to memorize our lines. We're like.

• 8:42Drew Afualo?

You're all, don't worry, my ground ball. Yeah, I got it. Trust me.

• 8:45Speaker 00

That was what we were so, so focused on. And then when the show started, we're like, oh yeah.

• 8:49Drew Afualo?

Let's keep the main thing, the main thing. I love, that's like your, like, you see how that's like a really nice version of method acting.

• 8:56Speaker 00

  Yes, totally.

• 8:57Drew Afualo?

Like where when men do it, they terrorize people. When women do it, they're like, we're playing softball.

• 9:02Speaker 00

It doesn't exist in, for women.

• 9:05Drew Afualo?

The women don't do that shit, so.

• 9:07Speaker 00

Do method acting. They just act.

• 9:09Drew Afualo?

They just show up, act. I think one of my favorite quotes, who is it from? It's a famous actress. I can't remember who. Maybe a man will remember.

• 9:17Speaker 00

  It's Kay Blanchard.

• 9:18Drew Afualo?

Probably. It was, it was an older woman and she, oh no, it's Kirsten Dunst. That's who it is. She said.

• 9:23Speaker 00

  An older woman.

• 9:24Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I just meant she older than me. I meant older than me.

• 9:26Speaker 00

  Great, great, yeah, totally, absolutely.

• 9:27Drew Afualo?

  But she's a mom and she's.

• 9:31Drew Afualo?

She, she said, someone asked her on a carpet, like, how do you feel about method acting? And like, have you ever done it? And she was like, I don't have time for that shit. I have kids.

• 9:37Speaker 00

  Yeah, totally.

• 9:38Drew Afualo?

  Real as fuck.

• 9:39Speaker 00

  I love that.

• 9:39Drew Afualo?

  She's real as fuck.

• 9:40Speaker 00

I've had this conversation with many an actress where we're like, we've all worked with method actors and none of them have been female. Yeah.

• 9:49Drew Afualo?

Yes. Men need to go somewhere to learn how to empathize with others.

• 9:52Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 9:52Drew Afualo?

How to put themselves in other shoes. They have to do something crazy.

• 9:56Speaker 00

And they have to make it everybody's problem.

• 9:59Drew Afualo?

Everyone has to suffer in order for me to do it. Whereas women are like, well, I have other things to do, so I can't be doing that.

• 10:03Speaker 00

Let me drop into it real quick and then hop out of it.

• 10:07Drew Afualo?

Speaking of acting, I do wanna know, um, obviously, we talked about you being an athlete before. Um, obviously, leaning into your passion of acting, I'm assuming it's passion?

• 10:15Speaker 00

  It's passion, baby.

• 10:15Drew Afualo?

  Obviously.

• 10:16Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 10:16Drew Afualo?

And that's why you're doing it so well.

• 10:18Speaker 00

  Thank you.

• 10:18Drew Afualo?

Um, but I'm curious, like, what were, like, if you did think about acting when you were younger? Even when you were playing sports, like, what were you envisioning? Did you ever see yourself becoming an actor? Or was it just more of a fun thing?

• 10:29Speaker 00

It was like, it was a little bit of both. It, I really did see myself becoming an actor, and I didn't really know what that looked like. I think because, I think I realized I wanted to be an actor when I started seeing, like, plays, like, children's theater.

• 10:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 10:42Speaker 00

I don't think I made the leap that, like, the movie, like, like, the movie I watched was also an actor. Does that make sense?

• 10:49Drew Afualo?

  That makes sense, yeah.

• 10:50Speaker 00

So, I think for a really, really long time, it was just theater, and it was like, yeah, it was, I, I couldn't envision myself on, like, a TV show. It was like, doing theater.

• 10:58Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 10:59Speaker 00

That was what an actor was. And it, it really wasn't until, I wonder when it, when it changed over for me. Definitely, like, high school?

• 11:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 11:06Speaker 00

But I started acting when I was a kid, you know, when I was like, nine, and just a school play here and a school play there. But being obsessed and then getting into, like, children's theater and, and community theater.

• 11:17Drew Afualo?

  Fun.

• 11:17Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 11:18Drew Afualo?

And I know you've done your time in improv.

• 11:20Speaker 00

  Yeah, oh, yeah.

• 11:20Drew Afualo?

I talk about it, like, when people go to San Quentin.

• 11:22Speaker 00

  Yes, exactly.

• 11:23Drew Afualo?

And every actor I've ever met, or comedian, or both.

• 11:26Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 11:27Drew Afualo?

They always talk about improv, they're like, god, it's so cringey. That being said, I am very proud.

• 11:31Speaker 00

Oh, yeah, that's the thing, is I'm like, maybe the exception, that I'm like, it's not cringey. It's fucking great. It's magic, I love it, it's an art form.

• 11:39Drew Afualo?

  It is, it is.

• 11:40Speaker 00

I, I, I understand, I really understand people, like, talking shit about it, or feeling cringey about it. But a lot of times, I'm like, that's because you've seen Bad Improv, which is, which is rampant.

• 11:51Drew Afualo?

  And valid.

• 11:52Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 11:52Drew Afualo?

Sometimes bad art, bad art is also valid.

• 11:55Speaker 00

And to, to be an audience member watching Bad Improv is hell on earth. You're so...

• 12:01Drew Afualo?

  It's a torturous experience.

• 12:02Speaker 00

It's totally, because you're like... You're feeling, you're like empathizing with them, you're, you're, it's too intense. You're in the room with them, you're like in their head. But I feel like watching good improv is like watching a magic trick or watch, I don't know. I think it's incredible. I love it.

• 12:20Drew Afualo?

I love how passionate you are about it.

• 12:22Speaker 00

I love it. When it's good, it's fucking magic.

• 12:24Drew Afualo?

That's true. That's true. And that's just the truth.

• 12:27Speaker 00

  And that's just the truth.

• 12:28Drew Afualo?

My younger brother, uh, who's turning 22 this year.

• 12:31Speaker 00

  Happy birthday.

• 12:32Drew Afualo?

  He's.

• 12:32Speaker 00

Oh, just like this year. We're all turning something this year. Everybody.

• 12:35Drew Afualo?

  Hey, happy birthday.

• 12:36Speaker 00

  Happy birthday.

• 12:37Drew Afualo?

Um, he recently started getting into community theater.

• 12:40Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 12:41Drew Afualo?

And my mom has been encouraging him forever and he's always been like nah. And then recently he got approached by someone that at the school he goes to to join community theater. And he was like, this is fucking awesome.

• 12:51Speaker 00

  He loves it?

• 12:52Drew Afualo?

He loves it. And he was in a production already of High School Musical.

• 12:56Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 12:56Drew Afualo?

And when he called us, he was like, I think I'm gonna go out for the big roles. I was like, fuck it dude, you got it.

• 13:01Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 13:02Drew Afualo?

And then when he did it, he, he got cast as Troy and also Zeke.

• 13:06Speaker 00

  Wait.

• 13:07Drew Afualo?

So he was just switching roles, not in the same shows, but on different days.

• 13:10Speaker 00

  Holy shit.

• 13:11Drew Afualo?

I know, he's got a Broadway schedule now, doing two shows a night.

• 13:13Speaker 00

So he's so good that, wait, I, I don't know High School Musical, but I kind of do. Is that the two leads?

• 13:18Drew Afualo?

Yeah, they're, well, Troy is the lead.

• 13:20Speaker 00

  Right.

• 13:21Drew Afualo?

And then Zeke's like, I would say like a B-side character, like.

• 13:23Speaker 00

  But still.

• 13:24Drew Afualo?

He's like third or four on the call sheet.

• 13:25Speaker 00

  Damn.

• 13:26Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, still.

• 13:26Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 13:27Drew Afualo?

And so we went and watched and like, I haven't watched community theater in I don't know how long. But we went, we took our whole family, we took all our friends, like there was literally 20 of us for just him. And then there was maybe in total, maybe 27 people. So we, we made up a majority of that audience.

• 13:45Speaker 00

  That's so cute.

• 13:45Drew Afualo?

Doesn't matter though. Like we were front row, like we had shirts on.

• 13:49Speaker 00

  Oh my god.

• 13:50Drew Afualo?

And we watched him and it was the most fun, like I had so much fun watching it.

• 13:56Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 13:56Drew Afualo?

And it was funny because at the end, they did this thing at the end where like. All of them were doing, they were doing, we're all in this together. That's like the, the very end cap song. And then they kept playing it like again and like looping the chorus. So that they could all kind of switch positions and all be in the front.

• 14:14Speaker 00

  Right.

• 14:14Drew Afualo?

And they kept, and they kept doing the same dance moves. And then it would switch again and then they were doing it again. And we were like, okay, so this is about the fourth time.

• 14:22Speaker 00

  Right.

• 14:23Drew Afualo?

And then they cut the music and, and it was just them singing the first parts of each song throughout the entire movie. The end was like forty minutes.

• 14:32Speaker 00

  Right.

• 14:32Drew Afualo?

And so then when we got in the car, we drove over like, wow, that was so fun. And then we were talking, Carrie, my friend Carrie was there too. She goes, there was a point at the end where it did feel unbearable.

• 14:43Speaker 00

Right. Was your brother in the car with you?

• 14:46Drew Afualo?

  No.

• 14:46Speaker 00

  No, no, no, no.

• 14:47Drew Afualo?

We told him later. Yeah, no, he's heard all of this, trust me.

• 14:51Speaker 00

Where you're just sort of like, what's, what's happening now? Yeah, yeah.

• 14:55Drew Afualo?

Do you guys need me for this part?

• 14:56Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 14:57Drew Afualo?

  Or can I?

• 14:57Speaker 00

  You missed your exit, y'all.

• 14:59Drew Afualo?

Yeah, yeah. Okay, well, third time's a charm, so let's see you hear it again. And that's how I feel about community theater. I'm like, there is points where it feels torturous. I'm sure it's the same with improv. I haven't watched. But I know a good improv show is fun.

• 15:11Speaker 00

  It really is.

• 15:11Drew Afualo?

A really good one is fun.

• 15:12Speaker 00

It really is. I mean, it's like, I mean, I could get too like, uh, deep, but like, I really do think that when it's done well. I mean, I, you know, I came up at U, in UCB in New York.

• 15:27Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 15:27Speaker 00

In an era of like, I swear to God, the funniest people, I'm saying this with like my whole ass. The funniest people on the planet.

• 15:38Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 15:38Speaker 00

Like the geniuses, true, like, like comedic geniuses.

• 15:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 15:42Speaker 00

And it is, it was like brilliant. Like, you know, watching it when I was a student and then getting to perform with the people that I was obsessed with, it was like, I couldn't have been doing anything more exciting or better. Like, it was my, it was my favorite thing. It was amazing.

• 15:57Drew Afualo?

Amanda described it as your UCB royalty, improv royalty. That's what she's, that was her exact quote that she said to me.

• 16:06Speaker 00

It's funny, I mean, like, I, I have such a love for UCB and it really like gave me everything.

• 16:12Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:12Speaker 00

And I know it had, people have different feelings about it and depending on like when they came through or where, I don't know, whatever. There's different feelings about it and I get it.

• 16:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:22Speaker 00

And, you know, I came up in a time, it sounds like the Dust Bowl or whatever, but like when there weren't a lot of women, so you know, it was like. A gal per team if you're lucky.

• 16:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 16:33Speaker 00

And so I kind of came up in a weird moment. But it's, you know, it got better and it, I don't know, I think it trained me hard.

• 16:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 16:43Speaker 00

It like gave me some sort of, I don't know what.

• 16:47Drew Afualo?

  In the trenches.

• 16:48Speaker 00

Something, I really do feel like that.

• 16:49Drew Afualo?

Yeah, well, and that's a beautiful thing, especially in this industry.

• 16:52Speaker 00

  Right, right.

• 16:52Drew Afualo?

I feel like you have to have tough skin.

• 16:54Speaker 00

  I do too.

• 16:55Drew Afualo?

Especially if you're an improv, like, like you were telling me you are.

• 16:58Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 16:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you gotta really not give a fuck.

• 17:00Speaker 00

Exactly, because sometimes you're gonna like die on stage.

• 17:03Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 17:03Speaker 00

And that's also okay, you know, like I.

• 17:06Drew Afualo?

It's all part of the experience.

• 17:07Speaker 00

I've realized over the years that some of my like best moments, not, not for the audience.

• 17:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 17:13Speaker 00

But for making me who I am was like bombing, you know, and figuring out what, why and what that felt like and what I did wrong or whatever. Or how I could handle it.

• 17:22Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. That, that, that's also similar to what I hear from my friends who are stand ups. Like they're like, a lot of times like bombing is part of it, like you have to bomb in order to know not to.

• 17:33Speaker 00

Right, and then it's like information.

• 17:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah. Information download.

• 17:36Speaker 00

Yeah, and sometimes you cry yourself to sleep. But it is like, you know, you, you learn from it.

• 17:41Drew Afualo?

And you're like, I love the art, I love the art, I love the art, that's why I'm doing it, I love the art, not for validation.

• 17:45Speaker 00

Right, right, right. Yeah, really, really, really.

• 17:47Drew Afualo?

So you said in college, that's kind of where you decided like, hey, I think I'm gonna lean into what I love.

• 17:53Speaker 00

Yeah, I think it was like in high school, the, the, the idea of do I want to go to a school for theater? And therefore that's what my life will be is kind of where I was at. Or do I want to like, you know, do something more broad and maybe figure out a different path?

• 18:06Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:07Speaker 00

I was so dead set on theater, like I, I even did like a report about it. Almost like the equivalent of like a thesis paper, I don't, it was called like a, the, I don't remember, something as a junior, something like, whatever the fuck, some like, some big paper that you had to write about like your future and do some research and, and that's when I was like, I want to go to school for theater, this is what I want to do with my life, I don't see anything else. I really don't see anything else.

• 18:34Drew Afualo?

  That's true.

• 18:35Speaker 00

  It's like lucky and also.

• 18:40Speaker 00

  Delusional.

• 18:41Drew Afualo?

  Right, it has to be.

• 18:41Speaker 00

  Right?

• 18:42Drew Afualo?

Yeah, you have to be a little bit delusional.

• 18:44Speaker 00

  A little bit.

• 18:44Drew Afualo?

  I've told people that.

• 18:45Speaker 00

  Yes, and I-

• 18:45Drew Afualo?

And it, it makes a lot of sense for this especially.

• 18:47Speaker 00

Yeah, it's funny because I think of myself as like grounded and level-headed.

• 18:51Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 18:52Speaker 00

And this is, that is not that. This is not that.

• 18:55Drew Afualo?

  You're so me.

• 18:55Speaker 00

  I, am I-

• 18:56Drew Afualo?

  What's your sign?

• 18:57Speaker 00

  Cap.

• 18:58Drew Afualo?

  Oh, interesting.

• 18:59Speaker 00

  Say happy birthday to me.

• 19:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, oh, happy birthday.

• 19:01Speaker 00

  This year.

• 19:01Drew Afualo?

Yeah. It passed already, but happy birthday.

• 19:03Speaker 00

  But it'll come back.

• 19:04Drew Afualo?

  That's right, that's right.

• 19:05Speaker 00

The count, well, this, you're starting today.

• 19:07Drew Afualo?

  Yes, that's true.

• 19:08Speaker 00

  Yeah, anyway, yeah, sorry.

• 19:08Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 19:10Speaker 00

  And you said Virgo?

• 19:11Drew Afualo?

  Yes, I'm a Virgo.

• 19:12Speaker 00

Wait, I don't really know signs, but let me just remember, Virgo is what, February? No?

• 19:15Drew Afualo?

No. You're actually so far off.

• 19:18Speaker 00

  You guys all giggled, right?

• 19:20Speaker 00

  Virgo, November?

• 19:22Drew Afualo?

  Closer, September.

• 19:23Speaker 00

  September?

• 19:24Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 19:24Speaker 00

  Oh, okay.

• 19:25Drew Afualo?

  Closer. Yeah, I think, um-

• 19:27Speaker 00

  You're September 17.

• 19:29Drew Afualo?

  You're so close.

• 19:30Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 19:31Drew Afualo?

  September 18.

• 19:32Speaker 00

  Oh, I couldn't be closer.

• 19:33Drew Afualo?

Oh my god, you were so close. You practically had it. That's like, literally, that's how women react, they're like, oh my god, how'd you know that? You're not even right.

• 19:39Speaker 00

I'm not even right. But I'm right.

• 19:41Drew Afualo?

  But you're right.

• 19:42Speaker 00

  The 18th.

• 19:43Drew Afualo?

  Are you a January Cap?

• 19:44Speaker 00

  January 4th.

• 19:45Drew Afualo?

  T, okay.

• 19:47Speaker 00

  I know.

• 19:47Drew Afualo?

I, I've met quite a few Capricorns in this industry.

• 19:51Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 19:51Drew Afualo?

Um, that align with me greatly on that.

• 19:54Speaker 00

  Interesting.

• 19:55Drew Afualo?

Because I feel the same way, I was very grounded and level-headed and realistic in my head-

• 19:59Speaker 00

  Realistic, me too.

• 20:00Drew Afualo?

And about my future, but I knew I wanted to be in entertainment.

• 20:03Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:03Drew Afualo?

I just personally, I don't think thought, I don't, I don't think at the time I thought that theater was an option.

• 20:08Speaker 00

  Right.

• 20:09Drew Afualo?

At the time, I was like, well, that's not for me because nobody looks like me on the, on the TV, but like, maybe if I went another route.

• 20:16Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:16Drew Afualo?

So that's why I picked sports, like I did sports journalism.

• 20:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:19Drew Afualo?

And because I was like, well, then I'll get on camera.

• 20:21Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 20:22Drew Afualo?

And then maybe I'll do like personality stuff.

• 20:24Speaker 00

  Right.

• 20:24Drew Afualo?

And like, I did love sports, I grew up playing sports, so I figured like, oh, this is like, makes sense.

• 20:28Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:28Drew Afualo?

Uh, but I never, I, it was the same thing where I was kind of like, well, I have to think about the future.

• 20:32Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 20:33Drew Afualo?

Which no one was really doing when I was in high school.

• 20:35Speaker 00

  Right.

• 20:35Drew Afualo?

So I was like, I have to, I have to focus.

• 20:37Speaker 00

A particular type of brain does that.

• 20:40Drew Afualo?

  I think so.

• 20:40Speaker 00

Yeah. That's interesting, and then did sports journalism.

• 20:44Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 20:44Speaker 00

  Which led you on camera.

• 20:45Drew Afualo?

Yes. And then you- Well-ish, but, yeah.

• 20:47Speaker 00

And then that got you, like- Basically, you were like, I like being on camera. I like like.

• 20:51Drew Afualo?

Yes, uh, yes, I definitely learned how to talk on camera and I learned how to like not feel weird talking to a camera. Yeah, so like, and I learned how to edit, write, that kind of thing, light, mic, all that kind of stuff, because it was like all underneath a journalism cap. Um, so then I learned all those skills. I learned like Premiere Pro. I learned like everything Photoshop, all that stuff. And then, um, graduated, couldn't get a job, too hard. Eventually got fired, hired by the NFL. And well, then I did get fired. Yeah, so that was, that's why I was jumping the gun. So I did eventually get fired by the NFL. Yeah, that was like a couple, I would say I graduated from college in twenty seventeen. I got fired in twenty twenty.

• 21:34Drew Afualo?

Like literally two, maybe three weeks before the COVID.

• 21:37Speaker 00

  Heartbreaking.

• 21:38Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it was awful. And like, because I, like I said, I was very realistic about career path. I was like, so adamant about sticking to what I committed to and not changing. I was like, I'm not changing subjects. I'm not changing majors. I'm sticking on this. Yeah, and I was like, this is gonna work out for me. That's what I, and it did until it didn't.

• 21:55Speaker 00

Then they changed subjects on you.

• 21:57Drew Afualo?

Right. They said, please leave and never come back. I said, okay.

• 22:03Drew Afualo?

Okay, but if I leave, I'm not coming back.

• 22:08Drew Afualo?

Yes, that's what we asked for.

• 22:09Speaker 00

So then, it's, but that, of course, you know, one of those things where it's like, and that led you.

• 22:14Drew Afualo?

To posting dipshit videos on TikTok, honestly.

• 22:17Speaker 00

Couldn't have gotten here without that.

• 22:19Drew Afualo?

All, all rejection is misdirection. Or redirection, sorry, not misdirection. That's not an inspiring quote.

• 22:26Speaker 00

Rejection is redirection. Misdirection absolutely works.

• 22:33Drew Afualo?

They both kind of were. Yeah, so then I started posting videos on TikTok, but that was only because like my fiance was, I was feeling very lost and like I didn't know what I was gonna do. And I was like, I'd never been fired before. So I was like, what am I supposed to do? And then the world shut down. And everybody was at home, so.

• 22:51Speaker 00

Yeah, like, you felt double lost?

• 22:53Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like I felt super turned around. Like I, I, I felt so lost that I did seventy-five hard. And that's how you know something's fucked up.

• 23:00Speaker 00

  You did what?

• 23:00Drew Afualo?

Seventy-five hard. Have you ever heard of that challenge? Don't ever look it up. Don't look it up.

• 23:04Speaker 00

  Is it about drinking?

• 23:05Drew Afualo?

No, it's it's one of those like self-help things that you do when you're at your very lowest. It's it's the let them theory before that.

• 23:12Speaker 00

  Oh, gotcha, gotcha.

• 23:13Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so it's kind of like Caleb, my friend Caleb has likened it, right, he's likened it to the Artist's Way.

• 23:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 23:19Drew Afualo?

  That book.

• 23:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 23:20Drew Afualo?

  It's the same thing.

• 23:20Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 23:21Drew Afualo?

So it's like when you're doing that, it's like, let me check in on you a little bit more. Are you, are you all right?

• 23:24Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 23:25Drew Afualo?

  You sure?

• 23:25Speaker 00

I have another, not theory, but I'll just say theory about you, which is that you probably had never been fired from anything before. Like you are, you are not the person who gets fired, you're the person who leaves.

• 23:36Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 23:37Speaker 00

  I would think about you.

• 23:38Drew Afualo?

  Yes, always, yeah.

• 23:38Speaker 00

I think that you're probably the person that's like, I want to do this thing, and people are like, yay, you can do it.

• 23:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:43Speaker 00

You're like, okay. And then, so something like a firing, I mean.

• 23:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 23:48Speaker 00

Yeah. A firing for like an overachiever, like, like, um, well-liked person can really rock your ass, you know?

• 23:56Drew Afualo?

  You said it, sister.

• 23:57Speaker 00

It just like turns your world upside down.

• 23:58Drew Afualo?

Yeah, absolutely. It was, it was one of those, and I think it's because like, what I think at the time especially, I really took a lot of confidence and stock in.

• 24:08Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 24:08Drew Afualo?

  Was my accomplishments.

• 24:09Speaker 00

  Right.

• 24:10Drew Afualo?

And how, how accomplished I was at such a young age, like accomplishing everything I've ever said I was going to. Like, it was like this big, and a lot of it's hubris, I think, too, at, by that measure, but like, it was one of those things where I was like, this is what makes me me. If I don't have this, what am I?

• 24:24Speaker 00

So what does that say about me? But then also, again, like, I mean, I'm sure there's, we could like, there's some like Greek tragedy or whatever that where hubris is like the whole thing. Where it's like, yeah, you need to have the firing in order to like, become who you are.

• 24:38Drew Afualo?

  For real, yeah.

• 24:39Speaker 00

  And have like perspective.

• 24:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, but it almost felt like I had my Saturn return like a little bit early.

• 24:45Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 24:46Drew Afualo?

I was like, I had that about three or four years early.

• 24:48Speaker 00

And I totally know what Saturn return is.

• 24:51Drew Afualo?

  You should.

• 24:51Speaker 00

  I know.

• 24:52Drew Afualo?

  You should.

• 24:52Speaker 00

  Is that a Scissor song?

• 24:53Drew Afualo?

You work, you work with enough lesbians that you should.

• 24:56Speaker 00

  Saturn return.

• 24:57Drew Afualo?

Saturn return, yeah. And astrology, you gotta brush up on both.

• 24:59Speaker 00

  I do, I totally do.

• 25:01Drew Afualo?

It's Saturn return typically happens, I believe, someone will jump me or correct me if I'm wrong, but it's around twenty-seven, twenty-eight. That's like a normally.

• 25:09Speaker 00

  Just like a big change.

• 25:11Drew Afualo?

Something like, you have what feels like the worst year of your life.

• 25:14Speaker 00

  Interesting.

• 25:15Drew Afualo?

Just you can't. Cannot get up, like the universe will not let you get up. Everything horrible happens. So in twenty twenty, that's when I I got fired, covid happened, I got covid. Um, I almost broke up with my man. It was like the worst year ever in the history of time. So I felt like I got mine a little bit early.

• 25:33Speaker 00

  Yeah, you did.

• 25:34Drew Afualo?

Did you have a really life changing moment like that in your twenties?

• 25:37Speaker 00

Did I have a life changing moment? I think I I. My twenties, I spent in New York. It was like the best of times and the worst of times. Like it was so fun. But I was like so poor and just struggling actor ass life. It was a mix of things because I was, things were going well at UCB, although not immediately. You know, um, auditioning and and not getting it or whatever, but then kind of like redirecting my goals to be fully UCB encompassing. You know, I moved to New York to like be on Broadway and to be an actor and then all of a sudden my like vision got very narrow to just UCB. So I had like ups and downs in there, but I don't know what my Saturn.

• 26:23Drew Afualo?

Anything, maybe that's a good thing. Or maybe the whole experience of trying to make it as an actor was your Saturn.

• 26:28Speaker 00

  My twenties.

• 26:30Drew Afualo?

I've I've joked about that with people not because I turned thirty last year. So like in my.

• 26:35Speaker 00

  Nope, she laughed.

• 26:39Speaker 00

  I was.

• 26:43Drew Afualo?

But when I turned thirty, I like I felt more myself. I feel like my thirties are the fucking best years ever. Also, now that I'm thirty, I'm like resetting, so I'm like, I'm thirty.

• 26:54Speaker 00

  Yeah, totally.

• 26:55Drew Afualo?

To everyone who's older, I'm like, well, I just turned thirty. Whereas when I was twenty nine, I felt like I was hanging on.

• 27:00Speaker 00

  Yeah, twenty nine is weird.

• 27:01Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it was a very strange age. I I I joked often that I was like, I wish I could jump from twenty eight to thirty. I don't need twenty nine. That's fucking stupid ass age. I don't need that shit.

• 27:10Speaker 00

You know, it's funny is I felt like that and you you said fiance earlier. I felt like that about fiance, the word fiance. I was like, I wish I could go from like boyfriend to husband. Fiance felt like I was like always embarrassed.

• 27:21Drew Afualo?

That's why I felt saying boyfriend for the longest time too. But I think it's because I was with. My man, before we got engaged for seven years.

• 27:28Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah.

• 27:29Drew Afualo?

Which like if you tell anyone under twenty-two that they're like, oh my god, that's a thousand years. But I was like, it's a good thing you don't get married.

• 27:39Drew Afualo?

  When I'm twenty-three.

• 27:40Speaker 00

Seven years is a great amount of time, or whatever it was.

• 27:43Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it was seven before we got engaged. Yeah, so we got engaged our seventh year. Now, next year will be ten years. And like my parents too, like my parents, uh, my mom jokes that they did everything backwards because my parents had kids first. And then they moved in together, then they got married. So like they did everything backwards and my mom, my mom was with my dad, had two children and got married like before she got married and like lived together before they got married. Because my mom's whole thing was like, I want you to marry me because you want to marry me, not because we have kids.

• 28:11Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 28:11Drew Afualo?

So like I have always had a very different viewpoint of marriage. Like I've always been like, well, that's a choice. Like you guys choose to be together forever. So like I'm gonna wait to choose. Cause what if we get to year four and you suck?

• 28:23Speaker 00

Right, no, I think that's really smart. Yeah, jumping into it. I know it's like you know when you know and all that stuff, but just the like living together and being in each other's lives and also, you know, seven years, ten years, you see like a change, you know, people change.

• 28:38Drew Afualo?

  Yes, exactly.

• 28:40Speaker 00

Are we changing together? Are we changing apart?

• 28:42Drew Afualo?

  Yes, exactly.

• 28:43Speaker 00

I mean, I would, I would vote for seven to ten years.

• 28:46Drew Afualo?

That's what I'm saying. I, well, it's also, like you said, if you know, you know, well, if you know, what's the rush?

• 28:50Speaker 00

Well, that's the other thing. That's how we were, my husband and I were. We were, we were sort of like, well, we're gonna be together forever, but we don't need to get married. And then that was sort of the thing that made us want to get married. That we were both like, well, we don't really believe in marriage, so let's just do it.

• 29:02Drew Afualo?

You're literally so me. Yeah, I was exactly the same way. I felt very, I didn't feel averse to marriage at all. It just didn't feel like something I was gunning for. It felt very like, well, yeah, I mean, if it makes sense, yeah.

• 29:13Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:14Drew Afualo?

And then honestly, after I, I got that out of the way, I was like, well, I could see for sure I want to marry you.

• 29:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:19Drew Afualo?

And even like with him, like when we first started dating, he, he had said before, like, I don't think I ever want to get married and I don't want kids.

• 29:26Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:26Drew Afualo?

And then when he started dating me, he was like, I definitely want to get married. I'm still kind of unsure about the kids.

• 29:31Speaker 00

  Right.

• 29:31Drew Afualo?

Uh, but now like we don't want children.

• 29:33Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:34Drew Afualo?

And we decided that in 2020, if you can believe, once again, one of the worst years of my life. But that was like another thing that we went through.

• 29:40Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:40Drew Afualo?

But that was when we decided. And then at that point, even less so.

• 29:43Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 29:43Drew Afualo?

  Time means nothing.

• 29:44Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 29:45Drew Afualo?

At that point, like, because if you're thinking about biological clock, that's one thing. But again, like, you don't need to get married.

• 29:50Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 29:50Drew Afualo?

  You don't need to.

• 29:51Speaker 00

I have like this sort of specific memory of us walking, we were like on a long walk in New York. We'd like seen a movie and we were walk, taking a long walk home. And it was sort of like an admittance, admittance, I may be making that word up, of like, well, I don't really believe in it. Like, I don't think, I almost like, I think it's bullshit.

• 30:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 30:10Speaker 00

We're like signing a paper and like shaking hands and saying like, forever.

• 30:14Drew Afualo?

  You're right.

• 30:15Speaker 00

And we were, we sort of like said that to each other, like, do you, like, that's how I feel. I, I know I shouldn't feel like that, but that's how I feel. And he was like, I feel the same way. And truly, it was like, that was the thing that.

• 30:26Drew Afualo?

Oh, I guess this is my guy.

• 30:28Speaker 00

  Isn't that funny? Yeah.

• 30:29Drew Afualo?

No, you're, you're so real though, because that, that was one of those things too. We had this issue with kids too, well, issue is a strong word for it, but we both had this fear, I guess. Where it's like, I know, I think I know how I feel now that it's gotten this serious.

• 30:42Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 30:43Drew Afualo?

But I'm a little afraid to bring it up just in case our answers don't align.

• 30:46Speaker 00

  Yeah, totally.

• 30:47Drew Afualo?

So that's, that's how we felt about both of those subjects, like, but then once we talked through marriage, we were like, well, yeah, like, I mean, as long as it's not done in a very like, I guess, like, western colonial way, then like, yeah, I could see myself doing that for sure.

• 31:01Speaker 00

And that's kind of the thing.

• 31:02Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 31:03Speaker 00

You can, that's what I think we also realize is like, you can make it your own.

• 31:06Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 31:06Speaker 00

  It's, it's nobody's but your own.

• 31:08Drew Afualo?

Hey y'all, it's Drew. And one thing you need to know, I am intimately familiar with, is the high cost of rent and the mortgage, both past and present, girl. And I have a question for you, speaking of paying your rent or your mortgage. Are y'all getting rewarded for paying your rent or mortgage right now? If the answer is no, you need to check out Built. Becoming a Built member means earning points on every housing payment that you make, no matter where you live. Built points can be redeemed. For so many things, your flights, your hotels, your Lyft rides, your amazon.com purchases, future housing payments, and so much more. Personally, as a travel girl, because I'm working so much, I would be using them for flights, mama,

• 31:53Drew Afualo?

because flights are expensive. But becoming a Built member is very, very simple. All you have to do is download the Built app, then link any credit or debit card to the app, so purchases at your local spots become even more rewarding. And for you homeowners, like I've said, Built also works for your mortgage as well. Your housing payment is one of your biggest expenses every month. Why wouldn't you want to earn points paying it? Make sure you use our link, so they know I sent you. Back to the episode, okay, love you, bye.

• 32:36Drew Afualo?

When I had posted about getting engaged, like, you would think, after all the years I've been like fucking up men, and then like just saying like, "Oh, your fucking boyfriend's so unlucky, blah, blah, blah." I'm like, "Okay, no, for sure."

• 32:48Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 32:48Drew Afualo?

Um, when I got engaged, because they were like, "He's never gonna marry you." I got engaged, all of a sudden it turned into something else entirely, which is like, "Oh, that's a shut up ring." And I was like, "You don't, you don't give those." Well, they don't look like this.

• 33:02Speaker 00

Yeah, I did. As soon as I walked in, I was like, "Oh."

• 33:07Drew Afualo?

I was like, "I don't think shut up rings..."

• 33:08Speaker 00

You would know that, you wouldn't, he's not, I mean, I don't, I've never met him, but I, just even knowing you in this little moment.

• 33:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 33:14Speaker 00

Like, you don't, that's not who you would be with.

• 33:17Drew Afualo?

No, absolutely not. And I also think like, I'm like, you're not even, well, this I guess speaks to the misogyny of it all at large, but it's like, you're not even factoring my choice.

• 33:25Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 33:25Drew Afualo?

We're not, we didn't, haven't gotten married, because, go ahead, ask me why. I didn't want to get married. That's why.

• 33:30Speaker 00

  You're not waiting for something.

• 33:31Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I was like, "I, I did not want to get married."

• 33:34Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 33:34Drew Afualo?

And he has told me, "Whenever you're ready, you let me know."

• 33:37Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 33:38Drew Afualo?

And then the seventh year, I don't, I didn't know and we didn't talk about it, but in my head, I was like, "I feel like this is the year." And that was just like, because my book had come out, like, my career's never been better at the time. It's even better now, and like, we were like so settled and ready. So it just kind of, it's like we both knew.

• 33:53Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 33:53Drew Afualo?

And then he just kind of did it. And he was like, "I, I can't wait anymore. I think I need to marry you."

• 33:58Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 33:58Drew Afualo?

  And I was like, "Period."

• 34:00Speaker 00

That's how you said it, you're like, period.

• 34:02Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I said, period. No, I was honestly so a blubbering mess and it was like, honestly really annoying. A lot of people were like, did you guys record it? And I was like, no.

• 34:09Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 34:10Drew Afualo?

And when he had set it up, because I was so surprised, when he had set it up at the place we were at, like, no one was there, which is what I preferred. I wanted to be alone, to be insane, however I felt after. Um, but they were like, do you have video? And even at the hotel, they were like, oh, we can have someone take pictures and video or whatever. And he was like, she would hate that, so no.

• 34:29Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 34:29Drew Afualo?

And I was like, then it's just mine.

• 34:30Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 34:31Drew Afualo?

The memory just belongs to me.

• 34:32Speaker 00

  Yeah, exactly.

• 34:33Drew Afualo?

What about yours? Was yours romantic?

• 34:34Speaker 00

Ours, yeah, I mean, it was romantic, but it was like, I don't really like romantic things.

• 34:39Drew Afualo?

You and me both, girl. That's what I said. He played it exactly the way I needed it, private.

• 34:44Speaker 00

It was like our kind of romantic.

• 34:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 34:46Speaker 00

He'd be like, I'm from the Bay Area, and he had said something, he like did the, he did like a bit of a long game with it, like,

• 34:55Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 34:56Speaker 00

We were going to visit home, and he had said something months ago about like, when we go visit your family, we never go to San Francisco. We always like stay in the East Bay. And I looked up literally like army barracks or something in, in like the mountains of San Francisco that I want to check out. And I was like, sure, we like not really even talking it.

• 35:15Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 35:16Speaker 00

Just like, yeah, whatever, next time we'll go on a little road trip or whatever. So it was already planted in a way where, when we were visiting my family, he's like, I want to go check out those army barracks. And I was like, okay.

• 35:27Drew Afualo?

  Okay, nerd.

• 35:27Speaker 00

Yeah, exactly. I'll let him have this. And we went, we sort of like, um, I think it's called like the Marin Headlands or something. I might be wrong, but it's like all these beautiful cliffs overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. And there were like these barracks there, so I didn't even, I just didn't even know.

• 35:46Drew Afualo?

  No, yeah.

• 35:47Speaker 00

But I did say something like, if you don't have a ring in your pocket, you're an idiot. The only because the view was like, it was like so romantic, right?

• 35:57Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:58Speaker 00

That I was almost like, oh, well, this is where you do it.

• 36:00Drew Afualo?

  Dumbass.

• 36:00Speaker 00

But I did not, I would never have said that if I thought he did have that. Does that make sense? So then we were like, you know, having a nice little time on the overlooking, looking at the view and everything. And then when he proposed, like the first thing I said was like, fuck, why did I say that thing about the ring? I ruin everything I always remember.

• 36:20Drew Afualo?

It's funny you say that because the night that I got proposed to, right before, because he did it in the hotel room that we had, and it wasn't weird because I, and I didn't think I was getting proposed because I planned the getaway.

• 36:31Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 36:31Drew Afualo?

Because I was on tour during our anniversary. So this was like, he was with me on tour. And so this was a makeup for it. So I planned the whole weekend, so obviously I knew what was happening, so I didn't think anything would happen. Which worked perfectly, but like, we did this like, um, what's the, what do you call it when you do? Omakase, that's what it is. So we went to an omakase restaurant, like, the night of, and it's like, you know, omakase is like real intimate, so there's only like eight people. Yeah. And the sushi chef was like the host of the night, and he was like, serving us and explaining everything, whatever. And we got there like a couple minutes late, so everyone had gotten their first course, and he's like, oh, let me set you guys up. But because we were a couple minutes late, he was like asking us questions in front of everyone. And he was like, oh, you guys celebrate, you guys are celebrating something? And we're like, oh yeah, we're celebrating anniversary.

• 37:17Drew Afualo?

And he's like, oh, how many years? And I said, seven. He goes, oh, you've been married seven years? I was like, oh no, we're not married. Um, not yet, right? I was like, we're not married. And then he was like, really? Seven years? Not married? And I think he was like trying to be funny, and I was like, oh, sushi chef has jokes.

• 37:32Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 37:33Drew Afualo?

Oh, sushi chef's working at tight five. Love that. Get back to the omakase. Thanks. Yeah, I was like, let's get back to the, let's keep the main thing, the main thing. And I was like, and then he was like, oh, well, like making a razzing kind of joke, and I was like, nah.

• 37:46Speaker 00

  I love this.

• 37:46Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and then he like moved on, and I remember like, he moved on, and then to my man, I went, fuck that guy, right? I was like, we'll get married when we're ready.

• 37:56Speaker 00

  Exactly.

• 37:57Drew Afualo?

And at one point too, I was like, there was, I think his phone flashlight was on, like accidentally. And um, I was like, oh, I think there's like a light, like in your bag. And he goes, what? Like, that's what he said. He was like, what?

• 38:10Speaker 00

  Right.

• 38:10Drew Afualo?

And I was like, um, there's a light, I think your iPhone light is on. And he was like, oh, yes. And I remember that happening and thinking, what the hell's your problem?

• 38:19Speaker 00

  What is wrong with you?

• 38:20Drew Afualo?

Right? And then I realized that when, after he proposed to me, the ring box, he had a huge light in it.

• 38:25Speaker 00

  Oh my god.

• 38:25Drew Afualo?

So he said like, sometimes if it cracked even a little, the light would be on, and I thought it was beaming out of my bag, and I was like, like. You saw it. But I was like, no, you're, but when he went, what? I was like.

• 38:36Speaker 00

What is wrong with you? Oh, yes, you are correct.

• 38:40Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and I was like, and he was like, oh, right, yes.

• 38:42Speaker 00

You're like, I wanna leave. Yeah, you're like, the vibe is off.

• 38:46Drew Afualo?

I know we get into a fight.

• 38:46Speaker 00

  Yeah, exactly.

• 38:47Drew Afualo?

Even when we left, I was kinda drunk and like when we left, I was like, woo. And then he was like, do you wanna go for a walk? It was like 10pm.

• 38:53Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 38:54Drew Afualo?

And we were on the coast, um, like in a beach town, so it was like pitch black outside. And I was like, it's kinda dark outside. And he was like, he was like, okay, so no walk? And I was like, well, it's kinda dark outside. He was like, alright, let's go to the room.

• 39:06Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 39:07Drew Afualo?

And then I, I realized that when we got to the room, there was like flowers everywhere, balloons everywhere. And even then, my dumb ass was like, oh, wow, like, that's so beautiful. Because, and this makes me sound like a dick, I'm prefacing it now.

• 39:19Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 39:20Drew Afualo?

He does things like that all the time.

• 39:21Speaker 00

  Right, right, right.

• 39:21Drew Afualo?

Constantly. So like, it, it would, it would ring nothing crazy to me at all. I was like, wow, like, that's so nice. I was like, wow, that's so beautiful. And then I turned around and he was on one knee. And I was like, what are you doing? That's all I said.

• 39:34Speaker 00

It's so funny. I have this similar thing, which is like, and it's, I guess, I would preface it with the same thing. Where Jason was like, we were looking at this view and he was saying all this nice, beautiful stuff about me and our relationship. And I still didn't clock it. Cause I'm like, he would say that.

• 39:49Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 39:50Speaker 00

  That's what he would say.

• 39:50Drew Afualo?

  Obviously, I'm, I'm a delight. Obviously.

• 39:53Speaker 00

So it was the same thing where I didn't clock it until it was like down on one knee. And then I was like, what the fuck?

• 39:58Drew Afualo?

Right, me too. I literally said, what are you doing? For about two minutes.

• 40:03Speaker 00

Same, I like covered it, I couldn't look at it.

• 40:05Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 40:06Speaker 00

  Just shut up.

• 40:06Drew Afualo?

I swear to God, I'm not making that up. I literally, I told him, I said, I can't even look, I can't even look at it. I can't even look. And then when I looked, I was like, oh my God, I can't, I can't, I can't. And then when he, he's like, can I? It was funny, cause I was doing that weird babbling shit.

• 40:19Speaker 00

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 40:20Drew Afualo?

For so long. And he was just letting me do it. And then after, when there was a break, finally, he was like, can I say what I was gonna say? And I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. Yeah, go ahead. And then he, he said everything to me and then that made me cry. And then I was like, he was like, okay, and he like showed it to me and I was like, I can't, I can't, I can't. And then he was like, can I put it on your finger? And I was like, yes, yes, of course. And then when he put it on, I literally couldn't look at it. I was like, I can't, I can't look at it. It's like overwhelming me.

• 40:46Speaker 00

It is wild. It's, it's like, it's like surreal a little bit.

• 40:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 40:50Speaker 00

And I think even for you and me type of girls, which is like not maybe dreaming of that our whole lives. It's still a little bit like, oh, I've seen this in movies. I know this moment.

• 40:59Drew Afualo?

Yes, exactly. And I, and I was like, and I think, and maybe you felt this way too. I think part of me was like, well, I'm gonna be able to tell.

• 41:07Speaker 00

  Yeah, right, right, right.

• 41:08Drew Afualo?

Like, I was like, obviously, I'm extremely perceptive and smart. I'm gonna be able to tell. And it caught me so off guard.

• 41:14Speaker 00

We, I so didn't know that, okay, he had gotten the ring, or I should actually, God, if I must tell you, he made the ring.

• 41:22Drew Afualo?

  So did mine.

• 41:23Speaker 00

  I'm gonna.

• 41:24Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm saying, so.

• 41:25Speaker 00

  What the hell?

• 41:26Drew Afualo?

  Same, same, made it, yeah.

• 41:28Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 41:28Drew Afualo?

It took like six months or something, he was telling me.

• 41:30Speaker 00

That's so funny. I don't really think I know anyone else.

• 41:32Drew Afualo?

What if we were married to the same guy?

• 41:35Speaker 00

We like show a picture and we're like.

• 41:38Drew Afualo?

Like, have you, have you seen this man?

• 41:40Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 41:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 41:40Speaker 00

Um, but he taped it, okay, so he made it and then taped it under a bookshelf, okay? Does this make sense? A bookshelf that had like a little opening at the bottom.

• 41:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 41:49Speaker 00

Taped it under for months and I didn't know.

• 41:52Drew Afualo?

  That's so smart.

• 41:54Speaker 00

During that time, we got robbed. We lived on like the fifth floor of a Hell's Kitchen apartment and someone came in from the roof.

• 42:02Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my God.

• 42:03Speaker 00

Came in through the window, robbed us blind, which is nothing, because we were so poor, there was like nothing worth taking.

• 42:09Drew Afualo?

They were like, man, this house sucks.

• 42:10Speaker 00

Other than like a diamond ring taped under, which they didn't know about.

• 42:13Drew Afualo?

  Thank God.

• 42:14Speaker 00

  I know.

• 42:15Drew Afualo?

That is so funny. Yeah, he, he made the ring too for us. Like, he built it from scratch with a jeweler that his family has worked with before. And he was like, yeah, I was going to like months of appointments. And he like, I, I was so confused because I, he had told me how long it took and I was like. And he told me he went to my parents' house, which is even crazier because like I know my parents have a ring. I'm like attached to it. So I was like, what? Like, he just planned it all so that I was gone completely every single time and he could do all of it and ask, like, tell my parents and everything like that. So it was like. Truly, like, he got my ass.

• 42:50Speaker 00

Totally. It is, it's. It's a shocking thing when you're like, um, real partners with someone where you're like, I, I know you, I trust you.

• 42:58Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 42:58Speaker 00

  Lie to each other.

• 42:59Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 43:00Speaker 00

To be like, oh, you lied to me.

• 43:01Drew Afualo?

Yeah. Oh, so you can lie. Oh, okay. First lie. And it's funny because right before, I think the week before he proposed to me, um, we were talking about, I forget what we were talking about, but I saw like, do you know twa moa rings? It's like two rings. It's basically like two, two diamonds or like two different shaped things and they basically fuse them together. So they sit like side by side. Twa moa, right. And I only know that because I was like, have you ever heard of this kind of ring design? This is crazy. And then he was like, no, I've never heard of that. I was like, oh, it looks really pretty. I didn't say for me, I never looked up rings. I never, I didn't even know shapes, nothing. Especially at the time. So I just said it in passing and then he was like, for the last, actually it was like a few weeks before. He's like, for the last like two, three weeks.

• 43:46Drew Afualo?

I have been staring at this ring, thinking you're gonna hate it. I was like, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. Cause you, cause I brought up a twa moa and he's like, I text the jeweler and they were like, it's gonna take another three months. And I was like, no, I want to propose now. And he's like, so if you hate it, like I can change it. And I was like, I don't hate it and I would be the dumbest bitch alive if I did.

• 44:03Speaker 00

  Yeah, totally.

• 44:03Drew Afualo?

I would be the craziest person alive.

• 44:05Speaker 00

  Oh my God.

• 44:06Drew Afualo?

But that's crazy. We have two thoughtful men. I love that for us.

• 44:09Speaker 00

For two girls that don't give a shit about weddings or rings, we talking about it an awful lot.

• 44:15Drew Afualo?

Well, now I've earned the right.

• 44:16Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 44:16Drew Afualo?

Nothing's gonna make me care quite like getting a beautiful one. You know what I mean?

• 44:19Speaker 00

  I know.

• 44:20Drew Afualo?

But we will circle back to you and your illustrious career, because that's more important. But I want to talk about your new show.

• 44:26Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 44:27Drew Afualo?

Five Star Weekend, the Five Star Weekend, I will say. And I would love to know what you are really excited about for the show. Like what are you excited for people to gain or watch or consume?

• 44:38Speaker 00

  Who's in it?

• 44:39Drew Afualo?

Yes, please do. I have a cast.

• 44:41Speaker 00

  Okay, I'll even tell you.

• 44:42Drew Afualo?

  You tell me.

• 44:42Speaker 00

Cause I know it so well.

• 44:43Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 44:44Speaker 00

  Starring Jennifer Garner.

• 44:45Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 44:46Speaker 00

And she is, ha, that her character has just suffered a devastating loss from husband died. And, um, it's in the trailer. I didn't like.

• 44:55Drew Afualo?

  Not a spoiler.

• 44:56Speaker 00

Right, right. And she, um, invites a friend from each, uh, her best friend from each era of her life. Childhood best friend is Chloe Sevigny. Her college best friend is Regina Hall. I'm like her sort of mom era best friend. And then her new best friend is Gemma Chan. She's having us all to her like Nantucket Summer House for a girls weekend. And shit gets wild.

• 45:22Drew Afualo?

  And shit gets wild.

• 45:23Speaker 00

You know, like, I mean, if you think about the reality of what that would be like, like inviting your sort of four best friends from different eras of your life that maybe don't know each other, or maybe have preconceived notions of each other, or met at like a random wedding or whatever.

• 45:34Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, like the most random.

• 45:36Speaker 00

It might not be a great vibe, you know? Like, it might be really uncomfortable and so there's, you know, where it, the whole show takes place over the the course of like a sort of three, four day weekend.

• 45:47Drew Afualo?

  T.

• 45:48Speaker 00

And I just fell in love with those women.

• 45:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 45:51Speaker 00

These are like four unbelievably accomplished, amazing actresses that I'm like obsessed with and have been obsessed with.

• 46:00Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 46:00Speaker 00

And then to get to like spend the whole, you know, last summer with them shooting this and we shot most.

• 46:42Speaker 00

Was in LA, but we spent a month in Nantucket shooting. I mean, it was just too good.

• 46:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 46:47Speaker 00

And I was the last one cast, so I had heard about the project already. It was one of those ones where I was like, can't wait to watch this.

• 46:54Drew Afualo?

  Oh, my gosh, me?

• 46:55Speaker 00

  I know.

• 46:56Drew Afualo?

  That's so cool.

• 46:57Speaker 00

It just, it really, you know, I think, um, let's see, five actresses.

• 47:03Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 47:05Speaker 00

In a show, five like lead actresses in a show could get like a little hairy. One bad egg would like really spoil the dozen. I don't know what that saying is. But this was like a, the, the, the chemistry was like absolutely perfect. We, it just was like.

• 47:19Drew Afualo?

  That's so nice.

• 47:20Speaker 00

We instant, nobody had worked together before, nobody really knew each other. We just bonded quickly and.

• 47:26Speaker 00

Like, something happened. We just like, became, I don't know, we like, got deep and open really fast and it was like, incredible. It was incredible.

• 47:34Drew Afualo?

  Only women can do that.

• 47:35Speaker 00

  I know.

• 47:36Drew Afualo?

  I'm telling you.

• 47:36Speaker 00

I would come home and like, sit on the bed, telling my, Jason, my husband about the day. I, like a, like a And then I'm like, I'm in love with these women. I am obsessed with them.

• 47:49Drew Afualo?

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm in love.

• 47:51Speaker 00

  Yeah, I'm in love.

• 47:52Drew Afualo?

And I don't care who knows it.

• 47:53Speaker 00

  Yeah, that is really great.

• 47:54Drew Afualo?

That's, that's so incredible. And like, did you, obviously you said you've like, you love these actresses and obviously they're extremely well decorated and accomplished, like, did you find yourself like, learning anything from them, teaching anything to them? Like, how was that? Like, was the environment collaborative like that?

• 48:10Speaker 00

  Mostly me teaching them, yeah.

• 48:12Drew Afualo?

I would say they need help, all the help they can get.

• 48:14Speaker 00

No, it was, yeah, it was definitely like, um, it was, yeah, it was one of those situations where I couldn't, um, learn enough, you know what I mean?

• 48:23Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 48:24Speaker 00

Like, the way they interact with each other, the crew, the way they carry themselves, the, it, it was like, um, Jen, in particular, you know, she's number one on the call, she, she's a producer on the show. She's like, so caring and generous and thoughtful. And it really trickled down and the other women are the same, but like, she really set the tone for the entire show and crew and it was just like a, it, there was something up. It was like a, it was just a warm, it, it felt, it just was really special. It was really fast and like, it, it just felt, I feel like, we throw like, it was a family around a little too much, because it's like, no, it's not. But it was just like,

• 49:09Drew Afualo?

  You guys are not family.

• 49:10Speaker 00

  Everybody just

• 49:11Drew Afualo?

But this one for sure, you can tell.

• 49:13Speaker 00

They just like, had each other's back.

• 49:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 49:14Speaker 00

And, and they're just like, the utmost professional women that have been doing this shit for a long time. Like, Chloe's been acting since she was like, an early teenager, you know, I mean, these are like, these are women that have been through it and I, I just, I just didn't, I don't know.

• 49:30Drew Afualo?

Was there a lot of improv?

• 49:32Speaker 00

  There was a little improv.

• 49:33Drew Afualo?

I'm curious to know, if there was.

• 49:35Speaker 00

You know, I try to like, keep it, like,

• 49:38Drew Afualo?

  It's the wolf inside you?

• 49:40Speaker 00

Yeah, like, I, I don't, you know, I've definitely been on sets where You know improv is encouraged or where maybe an actor's like you can kind of feel like I can't wait to get my improv out or whatever and I'm I don't want that. I don't wanna be that. I don't like I really wait for my cue if that makes sense cue meaning like from the director or the other actors that like that would be welcome.

• 50:03Drew Afualo?

  Tea.

• 50:03Speaker 00

  You know?

• 50:03Drew Afualo?

  That makes sense.

• 50:04Speaker 00

Because sometimes it's like, okay, great. You said a funny thing like that's not gonna actually help.

• 50:09Drew Afualo?

Let's stick to what's on script. Yeah.

• 50:11Speaker 00

  But I think.

• 50:12Drew Afualo?

We only have about three more hours of light. So let's get in there. Yeah.

• 50:15Speaker 00

Oh, where'd you go? Come on up. Um, but I think my character Brooke, she's so awkward and she's so like she's the last one. She's sort of like can't believe she got invited. She can't believe her luck. That like she gets to be on this amazing weekend with these amazing women and she's so not worthy. And so I think that that did like lean into a lot of the comedy. So I kind of got to play a little bit.

• 50:43Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 50:43Speaker 00

Um, and it was really fun.

• 50:46Drew Afualo?

I'm taking all the notes because I'm venturing into acting now. I'm trying my hardest. I do have an acting coach.

• 50:52Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 50:53Drew Afualo?

Uh, but I will ask, I've been asking a lot of my fellow tall girls and there are not many.

• 50:57Speaker 00

  I know.

• 50:58Drew Afualo?

Um, about your height. Is it playing against you when you do auditions?

• 51:02Speaker 00

Okay, this is a great question. I mean, it's a great question because I'm like, I gotta be real with you. Like, I don't think it's helping.

• 51:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's what I think.

• 51:08Speaker 00

  You know what I mean?

• 51:09Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm always thinking I'm like never factoring talent. It's obviously not that. It has to be my height.

• 51:13Speaker 00

Right. Right, right, right. Totally, totally.

• 51:15Drew Afualo?

  That's what I'm telling myself.

• 51:17Speaker 00

You know, I think it could be anything. It could be like, it really could. It's like we're, you know, um, depending on the role, depending on the whatever, we're not blonde, we're not whatever the fuck. We don't have like, I don't know what whatever it's calling for.

• 51:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 51:32Speaker 00

I'm not auditioning for a ton of roles that are like six feet tall or whatever. I don't know that it's, I don't know.

• 51:41Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's a big question mark.

• 51:43Speaker 00

  I, but I don't think it's. I mean.

• 51:45Drew Afualo?

  It's definitely not an asset.

• 51:47Speaker 00

Right, but I think it's like maybe a reason to even. You know, like, excuse me.

• 51:54Drew Afualo?

Right in the middle of my thought.

• 51:55Speaker 00

No, I, I don't, I'm kidding. But like, you know, you saying that you're working with an acting coach, things like that. I'm like, all that stuff is all you need to worry about.

• 52:03Drew Afualo?

  That's true, yeah.

• 52:04Speaker 00

Like, you put in the work, you get good at what you're trying to do.

• 52:10Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 52:10Speaker 00

You have the personality, you have the looks, like you have all of that. And so much of it is that, like so much of it is like your vibe, your aura.

• 52:19Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 52:20Speaker 00

Your like brightness, your shininess, your sparkle or whatever.

• 52:22Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 52:23Speaker 00

Um, so I would say like, I don't, I could also just lie and be like, it's not an issue at all. I think I'm, if I'm ever in a scene with a man, I'm almost always taller than him.

• 52:32Drew Afualo?

  Right, me too.

• 52:34Speaker 00

Taking some heels off sometimes, popping a hip out or whatever. But, but.

• 52:38Drew Afualo?

  Cheating it.

• 52:38Speaker 00

Yeah, but also, it, it's, it's okay. And, and maybe now better than ever, I don't know. It's like, you know, all, all.

• 52:47Drew Afualo?

They just gotta cast me opposite Jacob Elordi. He'll always be taller than me.

• 52:50Speaker 00

  Totally, you'll look wee.

• 52:51Drew Afualo?

You too. Yeah, I'll look so tiny. I'll be like Sabrina Carpenter, tiny. You know what I mean?

• 52:55Speaker 00

Come on up here. But I mean, you know, it's, it's, um, I feel like I've been lucky to work, I don't, I can't think of anyone that I've worked with that it's been an issue for. Like any man I've worked with where they're like, um, upset or anything, you know?

• 53:10Drew Afualo?

That's good to know. That's good to hear. Cause everybody, and you know this better than I do, I'm sure, everybody's itty bitty.

• 53:16Speaker 00

  Tiny.

• 53:17Drew Afualo?

  Everybody is tiny as hell.

• 53:19Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 53:19Drew Afualo?

I, that's why every room I go into, I feel like an NBA player.

• 53:22Speaker 00

I know, I know. This is like a kind of tall cast. Gemma's tall, Jen's tall, Chloe's tall and we're taller than her. So she's always like, what the hell?

• 53:31Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 53:32Speaker 00

But I mean, tall meaning like five, six, five, seven, you know?

• 53:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah, which is enormous for Hollywood.

• 53:37Speaker 00

Yeah, but it's okay. And I think, you know, also we're more likely doing comedy.

• 53:44Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 53:44Speaker 00

And I think it's just like more open.

• 53:47Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 53:48Speaker 00

Like, not to say, not to say at all truly that you're not gonna be the romantic lead, cause you are.

• 53:54Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I'm just gonna play the boy.

• 53:55Speaker 00

No, but you're not, you're not, you're not.

• 53:57Drew Afualo?

  Just kidding.

• 53:57Speaker 00

I know. I mean, like, that's the thing is like, you're gorgeous and tall is a huge part of that.

• 54:02Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, well.

• 54:03Speaker 00

I know it's hard for us. I know it's hard.

• 54:05Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 54:07Speaker 00

You go through phases of of like owning it and wishing you weren't and you know like I remember a time in high school where I was like if I could take a saw and like cut the you know like just if I could just be five five and then I owned it and then like I go through phases of loving it and not loving it but

• 54:26Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I feel that. Yeah, I feel I agree and I feel like they have more than enough apple boxes they can easily put men on on top of things if they need them. I also find it strange that tininess for men specifically is also a good thing like even when I asked I asked my acting coach I was like should I start lying about my height and slates? And then he was like no but he's like if you do like it should be like one inch it should not be I was like you don't think I should hit him with a five seven?

• 54:53Speaker 00

  And he was like

• 54:56Drew Afualo?

Be five four thumb for real.

• 54:58Speaker 00

I mean who the actress that works more than any actress in Hollywood?

• 55:02Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 55:02Speaker 00

Nicole Kidman. She is five eleven.

• 55:06Drew Afualo?

That's so true and we look a lot alike so that would easily all three of us you could never tell the difference between all three of us.

• 55:13Speaker 00

  We're doing some sort of

• 55:14Drew Afualo?

I just need to dye my hair red that's what we need to do and then I'll start taking her roles. That's true um I I really like I don't I'm not like afraid of it necessarily but I'm like and this is part of my delusion where I'm like it's definitely not talented has to be that. But I I feel pretty confident that I'm like I think if I just like get in there and do a good enough job I'm sure it won't matter.

• 55:37Speaker 00

It is that is actually true.

• 55:39Drew Afualo?

That's what I keep telling myself.

• 55:40Speaker 00

  That is actually the truth.

• 55:41Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 55:41Speaker 00

Yeah and I know you know this but like you're gonna hear five thousand no's.

• 55:46Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 55:47Speaker 00

And then you get a yes and it sucks that that is the like the what the

• 55:51Drew Afualo?

  The ratio.

• 55:53Speaker 00

It makes no sense like how are we still doing this but but you just kind of get used to it and I'm sure you know I don't know how when you say you're like dipping your toe into acting like I don't know how much you've been doing as far as auditioning and stuff but it really is

• 56:07Drew Afualo?

  Lots of tapes.

• 56:07Speaker 00

Yeah lots of tapes it's like you I think my advice would be do it and like flush it down the toilet of your mind.

• 56:15Drew Afualo?

That's a good point yeah let release it.

• 56:18Speaker 00

Release like the second you're done it's like it's gone.

• 56:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 56:21Speaker 00

And then if you hear about it again that's because you got a callback.

• 56:25Drew Afualo?

Yeah if it's meant to be it'll be.

• 56:26Speaker 00

But there but you know try not to like put too much I I don't know, like, energy into the the outcome.

• 56:34Drew Afualo?

Right. I I think that's such a good reminder, too, because I feel like, especially with art, like, that is one of those things where I feel like I have to check in sometimes and I'm like, the point of art is to make it, right, or to be in it, not to be rewarded for it, or to be validated in it. So it's like, the point of art is to create, and then if it works out, it works out great. But if not, at least I'm still doing something.

• 56:55Speaker 00

Yes. I, this is like, not exactly the same thing, because we're talking about auditioning, and and I'm like, jumping to being on something, but I, I've realized that recently, or lately, I guess, that like, the outcome, the show, the movie, is not actually my, what, I I don't, I almost don't care.

• 57:13Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, once it's out.

• 57:14Speaker 00

  Doing the thing.

• 57:15Drew Afualo?

That's such a good point, yeah.

• 57:16Speaker 00

Day to day. And the thing comes out a year or two later, and like, if people like it, great, if they don't, great. But I al- I almost don't care, and I'm caring less and less. I'm like, I want to work with.

• 57:26Drew Afualo?

Such a good way of looking at it.

• 57:28Speaker 00

You can do it with auditions, too. Like, you know, on my best days, when I'm like, not being a shithead about auditions, I'm like, I get the opportunity to act today.

• 57:37Drew Afualo?

  For real.

• 57:38Speaker 00

I'm gonna like, show them a little gift I have, you know? And when I'm like, really being positive about it, I can do it that way. And it's like, who cares about the outcome?

• 57:46Drew Afualo?

No, that's a really, really good way of looking at it, especially like, that helps you, I feel like, I'm sure, enjoy the process more.

• 57:53Speaker 00

Because it, the process is, is. It's like, what is this?

• 57:58Drew Afualo?

Just being punched on. Just being beat up. For however long. I was, and that, speaking of, I was gonna ask, like, what was the first role you got where you were kind of like, oh my god, I can't believe it? It works. The auditioning works.

• 58:10Speaker 00

I think, you know, I got to be on Broad City.

• 58:12Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 58:13Speaker 00

  Which was incredible.

• 58:14Drew Afualo?

Yeah. And we've had Alana on, and we love her.

• 58:18Speaker 00

And and the thing about that was that I came up with them at UCB, so it was like, they like, rewarded me with that. That wasn't an audition, that was just like, the nicest thing.

• 58:26Drew Afualo?

Well, thank god you're fucking talented. Worked out.

• 58:30Speaker 00

They kind of like, populated their cast with just all the people that they had come up with, which was amazing.

• 58:34Drew Afualo?

And they saw your, your enormous potential, obviously.

• 58:38Speaker 00

Truly was like, life-changing. But that one, you know, you have a little bit, almost like a little bit of like, nepo feeling, where you're like, well, they just put me in it because we're friends. So auditioning and getting called back, and then called back and testing for The Good Place, really felt like, I had, also. I didn't know that, I didn't know Mike Schur, the creator, I mean, I was like a huge fan of him, but it's not like we'd worked together before.

• 59:00Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 59:01Speaker 00

Came up together or anything, so that one felt like, holy shit, I

• 59:04Drew Afualo?

  Like different.

• 59:05Speaker 00

  Did it.

• 59:05Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:06Speaker 00

And it was, I don't know, it was like one of a million auditions.

• 59:10Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 59:11Speaker 00

But there was something, I mean, the writing was genius and it was like, I knew it was Ted Danson and I knew it was Kristen Bell and I

• 59:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:17Speaker 00

It was like such a dream. I can't explain this enough. I, there was no world in which I was gonna book it, but I was like so excited to audition for him.

• 59:28Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 59:29Speaker 00

I really am not even being like coy or

• 59:32Drew Afualo?

  Humble.

• 59:33Speaker 00

Yes, I'm not, like, there, there, it, there wasn't even like a, maybe this one, it was like, I'm not gonna get it, but I had this feeling where I was like, I'm, I gotta make him laugh in the audition.

• 59:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:43Speaker 00

He's gonna remember me. He's gonna make me the bus driver of season three, episode two, scene five, or whatever, like, I just was like, I wanna be in his like Rolodex of

• 59:52Drew Afualo?

  Hell, yeah.

• 59:53Speaker 00

To reach out to or whatever.

• 59:54Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 59:54Speaker 00

Anyway, um, but then it just like kept going well and I would leave the auditions being like, huh. Well, wait.

• 1:00:01Drew Afualo?

  I'm lowkey killing it.

• 1:00:02Speaker 00

Right, like, that couldn't have felt better. I'm, I'm, it's not gonna be me, but like, great, that's what it feels, that's what like a good audition feels like.

• 1:00:09Drew Afualo?

  You're just like me.

• 1:00:10Speaker 00

  Am I?

• 1:00:10Drew Afualo?

  I do the same shit.

• 1:00:11Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:00:11Drew Afualo?

Yeah, like, for a lot of things, I'm like, well.

• 1:00:13Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:00:14Drew Afualo?

I guess we'll see, uh, but I'm also like, what you were talking about, about making an impression.

• 1:00:18Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:00:18Drew Afualo?

That's been a lot of my, with a lot of shit I've done. I've been like, well, I just need to get in front of them.

• 1:00:22Speaker 00

  I really

• 1:00:23Drew Afualo?

And when I get in front of them, good luck trying not to love me.

• 1:00:26Speaker 00

Which is why a self tape is hell. Cause you just wanna get in the room.

• 1:00:29Drew Afualo?

That's literally, I'm like, you guys need to, if you, if you guys see me in person, then maybe, you know, it'll translate better.

• 1:00:34Speaker 00

  Really an issue.

• 1:00:36Drew Afualo?

And even like, sometimes when I, if I have like, uh, talks with like other actors like yourself, like who have been doing it for a while. Or I interview someone on like carpets or something, or even have a general, they'll be like, are you acting like? And I go, yeah, do you know anyone? I was like, I'm in a who want me face, so go ahead, let me know. You let me know when you need me.

• 1:00:54Speaker 00

  I know.

• 1:00:55Drew Afualo?

But I, I'm taking notes from you.

• 1:00:57Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:00:57Drew Afualo?

  That's for sure.

• 1:00:58Speaker 00

Well, I, I, I'm old, so I'm, I got, I got things to say, but like, you know, it's, it's, it's like a waiting game and it's You know, you gotta love it and put in the time and

• 1:01:08Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:01:09Speaker 00

You're doing everything right, you know?

• 1:01:10Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:01:11Speaker 00

  Really.

• 1:01:11Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:01:12Speaker 00

And then just something clicks, like some, it's like, it's out, it's like out of your hands. You just have to do the, do everything you can to be, to put your best shit forward.

• 1:01:21Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:01:22Speaker 00

  Which is what you're doing.

• 1:01:23Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:23Speaker 00

And then all it takes is somebody being like, yeah.

• 1:01:27Drew Afualo?

That's true. I think telling myself too, that it's subjective and it's really just up to them, like what they're looking for, what they envisioned. That kind of thing, all of that is playing a huge role in it. That also kind of helped me too. Thinking about it through that lens because I'm like, well, then it's just not what I'm, what they're looking for.

• 1:01:43Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:01:43Drew Afualo?

  Not necessarily, I suck.

• 1:01:45Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 1:01:46Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:01:46Speaker 00

And, and the other thing I want to say, just to like circle back to this is, don't get in your head about the height thing.

• 1:01:51Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:01:51Speaker 00

Cause it's going to be the thing that gets you the thing.

• 1:01:53Drew Afualo?

Yeah, that's, that's a good point. Cause that, that has been like haunting me a little bit, especially when I have to do my slate.

• 1:02:00Speaker 00

  I know.

• 1:02:00Drew Afualo?

  Every time.

• 1:02:01Speaker 00

Why you gotta make me say it?

• 1:02:02Drew Afualo?

I was like, what do you need that shit for?

• 1:02:04Speaker 00

  Yeah, totally.

• 1:02:05Drew Afualo?

  Just bring me in.

• 1:02:06Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:02:06Drew Afualo?

It's okay. Let me do it.

• 1:02:07Speaker 00

  The other person.

• 1:02:08Drew Afualo?

Yeah. Ask them if they're tall enough. How's that?

• 1:02:12Speaker 00

Don't, don't get in your head about that.

• 1:02:13Drew Afualo?

  Thank you.

• 1:02:13Speaker 00

Yeah. That's just, that's just another thing that's like outside of your control and it's going to be the gift for some, some other role.

• 1:02:19Drew Afualo?

They're gonna make me be the stunt double for The Rock. That's what I've been saying. They're gonna make me stand in for him.

• 1:02:24Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:02:25Drew Afualo?

  And hey, I'll take it.

• 1:02:26Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:02:26Drew Afualo?

  I'm not being picky.

• 1:02:27Speaker 00

What about his daughter? You should.

• 1:02:29Drew Afualo?

That's true. His daughter in something? I don't know. He, he calls me sis all the time. I'm like sis, aunt, sister. That's who you are compared to me, buddy. You're a lot older than me. All right. But I'm very excited at, by the time this comes out, your show will be out.

• 1:02:44Speaker 00

  It is out.

• 1:02:45Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it is out now. It is out now.

• 1:02:47Speaker 00

  Really enjoying it.

• 1:02:48Drew Afualo?

So like, is there any sort of feeling or emotion you hope they take away after watching?

• 1:02:52Speaker 00

You know, it's like, it, I read the book and reading all the scripts, I felt, it's like, there's something about female friendship, like.

• 1:03:34Speaker 00

There's this kind of, I feel seen in it.

• 1:03:39Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:39Speaker 00

It's not perfect, right? It's like, there are issues and it's not like, it's aspirational, but not... This is, these are female friendships that I recognize.

• 1:03:49Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:50Speaker 00

And it makes you feel seen and it makes you feel like, like I know these people and I am these people and, and there's just something very cozy about it.

• 1:03:58Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:58Speaker 00

I, I can't tell you how much we like loved doing it and it just, I feel like, yeah. I don't know if cozy, I don't know why I keep coming back to cozy, but when I think of this show, I'm like, get cozy.

• 1:04:11Drew Afualo?

Yeah, it's like familiar, like it feels very familiar. There is like a depth to female friendship.

• 1:04:17Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 1:04:17Drew Afualo?

That is completely different from any other connection you have in your life and I feel very convicted in that.

• 1:04:22Speaker 00

  Me too.

• 1:04:23Drew Afualo?

And I feel so, like, I feel so convicted too in the thought that you can be soulmates with friends.

• 1:04:30Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:04:31Drew Afualo?

Like with girlfriends especially, like sisterhood. Like I think about it all the time where I'm like, oh my god, if I, if you had no women in your life that you love and who love you. Like I know, I know love is real because I've been loved by women.

• 1:04:42Speaker 00

  I could not agree more.

• 1:04:44Drew Afualo?

  Like specifically women.

• 1:04:46Speaker 00

And this like, yeah, this really explores that and, and then not to again, get too cheesy, but we really felt that with each other.

• 1:04:54Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:54Speaker 00

Like there was something really, and I'm like pointing to my phone because we were talking all the time, but that we really like check in on each other and

• 1:05:00Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:05:00Speaker 00

take care of each other and it's like a very organic, perfect, um, uh, example.

• 1:05:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:07Speaker 00

You know, of like what female friendship is.

• 1:05:10Drew Afualo?

Totally, and how it can fluctuate.

• 1:05:12Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 1:05:12Drew Afualo?

Right? Like I, I was just talking about this with someone too about how like, sometimes I'll get questions online because I have like, a lot of public friendships that I feel like are very real, but they're just people just love that were friends. Yeah, and so like, sometimes people will ask me like, how do I get friends like that? Like how do I get other women to love? You know what I mean? Which is hard, it's kind of a hard question to answer, but I always like say, especially for young people, um... I feel like female friendship, especially because that's the only one I can speak to, is like loving women through all phases of their life, which is interesting that you're saying like these are all women from different phases of her life. So it's like, sometimes when people are very curt and judgmental about friendship, or how women are treating each other, or whatever.

• 1:05:55Drew Afualo?

Sometimes I think, I'm like, you're young, so you don't know what it feels like to love someone, like a woman, that you're not romantically involved with. You love them through all of their isms. All of their mistakes, all of their faults, like, all of their faults, you see every side of them and you still choose to love them. Because I feel like platonic love is a lot of times far more important than romantic love. And it's also a choice, like you get to decide if you want to love your friends like that and support them. Yes, exactly, through many different phases of life. And I think that's beautiful. To hear that, that that's being depicted, yeah. Yeah, I'm loving that. I love that, especially your stacked cast.

• 1:06:32Speaker 00

  It's so stacked.

• 1:06:33Drew Afualo?

It's amazing. And I think you are incredible.

• 1:06:36Speaker 00

  I think you're incredible.

• 1:06:37Drew Afualo?

Thank you so much, D'arcy. I have some fun facts about you, though. And they're gonna get super fun.

• 1:06:42Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:06:42Drew Afualo?

Well, you can let me know if they're fun. I always tell them, you tell me if they're fun.

• 1:06:45Speaker 00

  That one's not fun.

• 1:06:46Drew Afualo?

Yeah, and if it's not fun, she's fired. Just kidding.

• 1:06:50Speaker 00

Your ass is on the line.

• 1:06:52Drew Afualo?

Your ass is on the line, Amanda.

• 1:06:57Drew Afualo?

Because I didn't get that outline, girl. Says, uh, that D'arcy used to work for a New York bus tour called The Ride. A seventy-five minute experience that was part NYC tour, part comedy theater.

• 1:07:09Speaker 00

  You got it, girl.

• 1:07:10Drew Afualo?

That's the most like improv-loving person job.

• 1:07:14Speaker 00

It's so funny that you say that, because, am I supposed to like chime in on this?

• 1:07:17Drew Afualo?

  Yes, please.

• 1:07:18Speaker 00

Because I, my, like a comedy partner of mine and I, Tim Dunn, and I, we auditioned for this together. You auditioned as like duos.

• 1:07:27Drew Afualo?

  Oh, nice.

• 1:07:28Speaker 00

And in the room, we got it, okay? Where they're like, will you do it? And we're like, yeah, we'll do it. And then we, basically, I was like, because also, not to like shit on the ride, but it's not like I was desperate to do it. I wasn't like, I gotta get this job.

• 1:07:40Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:40Speaker 00

I'm gonna go like this again. It was more just like... I felt like I had a little power because I didn't care to if I got it or not. So basically, in the room, I was like, we will do it if you let us like cast the entire thing with our UCB improv friends. You know?

• 1:07:54Drew Afualo?

  Closed mouths don't get fed.

• 1:07:55Speaker 00

Yeah, and so they did. So they just, we hired so many of our UCB friends that were all like struggling, broke actors.

• 1:08:01Drew Afualo?

  Oh, period.

• 1:08:02Speaker 00

And we, and, and it was really fun. And we got paid really well. It was great until it wasn't.

• 1:08:08Drew Afualo?

And it was like a whole like comedy show. So you were giving like tours of New York?

• 1:08:13Speaker 00

It's this weird bus that if you can picture this, like, okay, if you're listening or watching, okay, if you're listening, you usually face forward on a bus.

• 1:08:20Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:21Speaker 00

This is more like you're in movie theater seats the other way. You're looking out the windows.

• 1:08:25Drew Afualo?

  Oh, interesting. Okay.

• 1:08:27Speaker 00

  It's all glass.

• 1:08:28Drew Afualo?

  Gotcha.

• 1:08:28Speaker 00

  Does that make sense?

• 1:08:29Drew Afualo?

  Yes, yeah.

• 1:08:30Speaker 00

Okay. I know there's like an easier way to explain that, but I'm imagining that like New York City is the screen.

• 1:08:35Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:08:35Speaker 00

And you're in the seats, okay?

• 1:08:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:36Speaker 00

So we're standing unseat belted or whatever, just like standing up on either side of the, of the window. And we're playing these kind of characters, kind of ourselves that are like taking you on a tour, but we have like a little bit of like a, maybe there was like a little romantic storyline. The craziest part of this, of this ride, of this, of this tour, tour bus, is people on the street were also actors that were miked and we would, like, for example, we would, um, we would drive by like, like Carnegie Hall and there'd be like somebody walking down the street and we were like, well, that looks like, that guy's in a rush. Excuse me, sir, sir. And then he'd be like, yeah?

• 1:09:19Speaker 00

And the bus could hear him because he was miked and we were like, what's the rush, mister? And, you know, he's like, I'm on my way to an audition. And we're like, well, could you give us a little taste? And then he'd be like, New York, New York!

• 1:09:31Drew Afualo?

This sounds like what I told you about high school musical where it's like, there was a couple moments where it was truly unbearable.

• 1:09:36Speaker 00

  Totally. It was.

• 1:09:37Drew Afualo?

  That is so funny.

• 1:09:39Speaker 00

Wild. And the, and the tours, the tourists like ate it up.

• 1:09:42Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:43Speaker 00

  It was.

• 1:09:43Drew Afualo?

  Who, me?

• 1:09:44Speaker 00

  Yeah, exactly. Who, me, mister?

• 1:09:47Drew Afualo?

Everyone tiny Tim. That is so funny.

• 1:09:51Speaker 00

It was great. It was great.

• 1:09:52Drew Afualo?

What did theater kids dream job? Like while you're going to school?

• 1:09:55Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:09:55Drew Afualo?

  Like what a dream.

• 1:09:56Speaker 00

But it's also one of those, it was like one of those acting jobs that is a little soul sucking where you're like, almost, I'm almost doing it.

• 1:10:05Drew Afualo?

  Right, yeah.

• 1:10:06Speaker 00

I was like in the, maybe like the New York Post or something, like in my little, in my little costume in front of the bus. And I was like, well, that's certainly not the way I thought I was gonna like be in the newspaper for the first time, you know? It's like a tour guide, but, you know, yeah.

• 1:10:22Drew Afualo?

  That is fucking hilarious.

• 1:10:24Speaker 00

  It's great.

• 1:10:24Drew Afualo?

That is, and honestly, that is one of those gigs where you get him and you're like, this is part of it.

• 1:10:28Speaker 00

  Exactly.

• 1:10:29Drew Afualo?

This is part of the grind.

• 1:10:29Speaker 00

Yeah, it's like working at Universal Studios or one of those.

• 1:10:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:10:33Speaker 00

Or you're like, I don't know, Mickey Mouse with like the hat on.

• 1:10:36Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:36Speaker 00

  Well, I'm, I'm performing.

• 1:10:37Drew Afualo?

Right, I am doing the thing.

• 1:10:39Speaker 00

I said hat on. Mickey Mouse with his little hat on. I meant like the full head.

• 1:10:44Drew Afualo?

You know what's funny is Moana came out when I was, when I graduated from college or I was about to. Um, and so when I did graduate and I didn't have a job, I was like, well, I guess I'll, I could do character work. So I, I, cause I look like her low key, obviously. So then I was like, why not? And I was like, so I bought the outfit and I bought the oar and everything. I can't sing. That's important information. I can't sing. So that is, you know, one of her big things.

• 1:11:08Speaker 00

Sure, she's got a great voice.

• 1:11:09Drew Afualo?

Yeah, so when I, when I did my like pitches, I was like, I don't sing, but I could teach. I could teach like a hula or something.

• 1:11:15Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:11:15Drew Afualo?

And it was a bullshit ass hula, but I'll do it.

• 1:11:17Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:11:17Drew Afualo?

Kids don't know. They're dumb. They don't know. And so I did, I did probably two parties.

• 1:11:22Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:11:23Drew Afualo?

  Two.

• 1:11:23Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:11:23Drew Afualo?

  Total.

• 1:11:24Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:11:24Drew Afualo?

And I quit after the second one because I could not believe how pervy dads were. I could not believe, and the way that my temper is set up, especially at the time when I was 21, there's no way. I was gonna, I was gonna literally beat someone's dad's ass. In front of kids and that they'd watch Moana beat the shit out of their dad.

• 1:11:45Speaker 00

Which would have been probably good for them.

• 1:11:47Drew Afualo?

Like, good for everyone involved. Everybody would have benefited.

• 1:11:49Speaker 00

  That's so funny.

• 1:11:51Drew Afualo?

So I did quit that after a while, but at, in the beginning though, I thought, I, I did think it was really cool how. Kids loved me and like they were so convinced it was me like immediately so uh that was kinda fucking with I thought that was I thought that was beautiful. The dads were so pervy I was like I can't do this.

• 1:12:06Speaker 00

  That is so of course.

• 1:12:07Drew Afualo?

I was like I can't do this I'm not built for it not my thing but I do have more fun facts. Uh this one says you used to be Bill haters nanny or his children. Well, that is interesting.

• 1:12:18Speaker 00

That is interesting so that was like again this is you know New York struggling actor. My sort of main you know I had all the struggling actor jobs like waitress and temp and then I started nannying and I I just loved it and it was like.

• 1:12:34Speaker 00

Somebody recently said the word filled my cup and it keeps it's like I probably almost said it ten times today. It really filled my cup.

• 1:12:42Drew Afualo?

  I love that though.

• 1:12:44Speaker 00

I think she said it as a joke and I'm doing it like seriously but um it it I just loved it it was like a great way for me to to to make money. And my move was like babysit for as many families as possible if I babysit for like fifteen families. Then no one can count on me no one can like rely you know like I'm not I'm nobody's like.

• 1:13:04Drew Afualo?

  Living nanny.

• 1:13:05Speaker 00

And I'm nobody no I can always audition I could always say no I could always bail last minute. And then I started babysitting for Bill and and Maggie his wife at the time and and. There was just I just like fell in love with his daughter his little baby his little baby. We just clicked like soulmate baby. This is so long ago so she's a teenager now we were texting yesterday.

• 1:13:28Drew Afualo?

  Oh my gosh that's crazy.

• 1:13:31Speaker 00

So anyway that that was great and they really took great care of me and and.

• 1:13:36Drew Afualo?

That's crazy what a crazy side gig.

• 1:13:39Speaker 00

  I know.

• 1:13:39Drew Afualo?

Or just a fun fact about me now that fact is fun I will say.

• 1:13:43Speaker 00

Like yeah I mean you know I got to be on his show Barry which it just like he really took care of me I really am so grateful for him.

• 1:13:49Drew Afualo?

That's so amazing oh my gosh okay well now it says. She met her now husband Jason when a mutual friend invited them both on a friend's trip to Disneyland.

• 1:13:58Speaker 00

  Ding ding ding.

• 1:13:59Drew Afualo?

That's so tea or do you love Disneyland?

• 1:14:02Speaker 00

I don't know how to explain I'm like I'm so not a Disney adult but I'm like but I go every year. I go like once a year.

• 1:14:10Drew Afualo?

  Chill fan.

• 1:14:10Speaker 00

Yeah like I do love it. I love, like, I love going to my nieces.

• 1:14:14Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:15Speaker 00

You know, there's different levels. I definitely enjoy it, but, you know, I'm not getting like an annual pass. But by the way, I would.

• 1:14:21Drew Afualo?

Yeah, but I, but that being said, I would.

• 1:14:23Speaker 00

I'm like, save a little money. If you go three times, you're making your money back. I just enjoy it. It's, it's fun, but I can, I, it's, I, I have definitely a, I'm like, I'm not that, I'm not that, I'm this.

• 1:14:35Drew Afualo?

I feel you. I feel you. I, I love, I love Disney. Uh, but I feel the same way. I don't, I don't have the spiritual connection to it that Disney adults identify with.

• 1:14:44Speaker 00

Which I love for them. True. I'm honestly like, what could make, like, they are so happy.

• 1:14:48Drew Afualo?

Right, I agree. And it's not hurting anyone. So it's like, it's a big win-win for them.

• 1:14:52Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:14:52Drew Afualo?

I really do love Disney though. I just love the pageantry of it all. I think it's so fun. I get swept up in that feeling every time I go.

• 1:14:58Speaker 00

And, and I grew up in the Bay Area, but we would go to Disneyland once a year, um, as a family. So I ha, it's just like, it's the same place I went to as a kid. Like, it's so nostalgic. It's amazing.

• 1:15:07Drew Afualo?

Likewise. And I recently, like, since I started doing this, was able to go to Disney World. That's like a whole, oh, you gotta go to Disney World.

• 1:15:14Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:15:15Drew Afualo?

It's really fun. It is really over, I will say, it's like planes, trains, and automobiles to get anywhere.

• 1:15:20Speaker 00

  Okay.

• 1:15:21Drew Afualo?

Um, but it is fun. If you do it right and you plan it right, it's awesome.

• 1:15:24Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:15:25Drew Afualo?

  It's just the heat.

• 1:15:26Speaker 00

Crossing my legs and sort of uncrossing my legs.

• 1:15:27Drew Afualo?

Oh, you do whatever you gotta do. Okay, this one says, you used to work as a front desk receptionist at a design store, and one time Conan O'Brien came in and riffed with you.

• 1:15:38Speaker 00

  Yeah, it was like.

• 1:15:39Drew Afualo?

  What the hell?

• 1:15:39Speaker 00

  What the damn hell?

• 1:15:41Drew Afualo?

Where are you working that you're just running into these?

• 1:15:43Speaker 00

This was like a, this was in New York on the Upper East Side. I was a temp and I was front desk manager at like a design studio. It was like a designer, like a

• 1:15:55Drew Afualo?

  Okay.

• 1:15:55Speaker 00

And truly designer to the stars. She did like, like beep, beep, and beep.

• 1:16:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:00Speaker 00

  I guess I can't say their names. NDA, I don't know.

• 1:16:03Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:03Speaker 00

She did like Tom Hanks's house and Spielberg and Conan's house. And so, um, yeah, so there was a meeting where he and his amazing lovely wife Liza came in. And that was in, Conan is very formative for me. He was like, when I was come, you know, a kid, he was sort of, I've told him this. Before and and I'm sure a lot of people feel this way, which is like he was the first adult comedian as a kid where I was like you're for me. I love all these other ones, but those are for my parents or something, but you are for me. You like speak my language.

• 1:16:35Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:16:36Speaker 00

  You're teaching me a language that I didn't know.

• 1:16:38Drew Afualo?

  And he's like an OG.

• 1:16:39Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:16:40Drew Afualo?

Like he's one of one of the guys.

• 1:16:42Speaker 00

  The guys.

• 1:16:42Drew Afualo?

  Comedy guys.

• 1:16:42Speaker 00

Yeah. Anyway, when he came in to the to the studio, whatever it's called, I love that. I can't remember. Um, he just was very it it Conan.

• 1:16:52Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:52Speaker 00

I think he saw a like a a comedy connection.

• 1:16:57Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 1:16:58Speaker 00

Bantering and bidding and he was very funny and very Conan-y and.

• 1:17:02Drew Afualo?

He just sensed it about you. He had the scent on you.

• 1:17:05Speaker 00

I probably was. I probably was pushing it.

• 1:17:07Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:08Speaker 00

  I'm being funny too.

• 1:17:09Drew Afualo?

Your pheromones were giving improv and he knew.

• 1:17:11Speaker 00

He smelled it. Really like he went with it and he's one of the best. He's one. He's like, you know, become a become, isn't it cool? When you kind of like get to become friends with your heroes.

• 1:17:20Drew Afualo?

Hell, yeah. That is so cool. And I I'm discovering that now, like as I do this now and I venture into it now.

• 1:17:26Speaker 00

  What a thing.

• 1:17:27Drew Afualo?

Um, and it's even better when they're when they rock like because it is a bummer when you meet people and you're like, damn, that person sucks. That's a bummer.

• 1:17:33Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:17:34Drew Afualo?

But I I joked about this with with Lucy.

• 1:17:36Speaker 00

  Lucy D?

• 1:17:37Drew Afualo?

On Lucy Lucy Dacus, obviously. Um, we joked about this on when she was on the show as well, but I was telling her, I really do have this running theory that in this industry especially. If you make it to like a certain level, whatever that is to you, and a lot of people know you or they've heard you or they see you and stuff. I really think you're either the best person ever and so awesome. You just so happen to be talented. Or you're the most evil person I've ever met in my entire life. And that's and that's how you made it because you just don't care about anybody.

• 1:18:07Speaker 00

  You might be on something.

• 1:18:08Drew Afualo?

Past a certain point, it's like only the best or the worst survive.

• 1:18:12Speaker 00

I definitely have had that before too.

• 1:18:13Drew Afualo?

Everyone in the middle gets killed off.

• 1:18:15Speaker 00

  Yeah, you got there somehow.

• 1:18:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:17Speaker 00

  And it wasn't by nothing.

• 1:18:18Drew Afualo?

No, and it's like the people I meet who are just like so awesome, like they really are that awesome, like just genuinely.

• 1:18:24Speaker 00

  I totally agree.

• 1:18:25Drew Afualo?

And it's like when they're not.

• 1:18:27Speaker 00

The bad ones are the worst people you've ever.

• 1:18:30Drew Afualo?

Ever met, like evil incarnate. Like I think to myself, you're walking as like human embodiment of evil. Like I can't believe it.

• 1:18:37Speaker 00

  You're the devil.

• 1:18:37Drew Afualo?

Yeah. And now I know how you got here.

• 1:18:40Speaker 00

  Yeah, exactly.

• 1:18:40Drew Afualo?

I was like, maybe the Illuminati is real.

• 1:18:42Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 1:18:43Drew Afualo?

  And they're using it.

• 1:18:43Speaker 00

That's so funny. I totally agree. Yeah. I think you're right.

• 1:18:47Drew Afualo?

Okay, last fun fact. It says, when you were about 12 years old, you changed the spelling of your name, of your name D'arcy to D'arcy with like an apostrophe. Because you were a huge fan of the basses from Smashing Pumpkins, D'arcy Redsky Brown.

• 1:19:03Speaker 00

  Yeah, that's right.

• 1:19:03Drew Afualo?

Because, quote, "She was her ideal person."

• 1:19:06Speaker 00

Yeah, she's like the coolest person in the world. Yeah, like when I was a kid, I, and the, I mean, just like, I guess, alternative music, grunge music, like, it was all men, and I loved them all. I like, I like, truly still do love grunge music so much. And she was like, other than like the Breeders and a couple, there was very, very, very few females.

• 1:19:30Drew Afualo?

  Right, totally.

• 1:19:31Speaker 00

And she was the only woman in an all-male band, and I loved Smashing Pumpkins, and she just was fucking cool, period. That's it.

• 1:19:38Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:38Speaker 00

And I was just like, I want that name.

• 1:19:42Drew Afualo?

I was gonna ask about the apostrophe in your name.

• 1:19:43Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:19:44Drew Afualo?

  I didn't get a chance to.

• 1:19:45Speaker 00

I just did it. I just put the apostrophe in it. Not that this is a, it's not like I changed my name.

• 1:19:48Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:49Speaker 00

Meaning, like, to, it's the same name. I just put an apostrophe in it, but I'm, but I, but it stuck. Like, I, I identify as...

• 1:19:56Drew Afualo?

  That's how I identify.

• 1:19:57Speaker 00

  Like, I, I guess...

• 1:19:59Drew Afualo?

And that's fair. We can do anything.

• 1:20:01Speaker 00

  It is like a...

• 1:20:01Drew Afualo?

That's one of those things where it's like, I forgot I have free will.

• 1:20:04Speaker 00

Yeah, I was like, this is more me.

• 1:20:06Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:20:06Speaker 00

It really did feel like that.

• 1:20:07Drew Afualo?

Absolutely. I love that feeling. That's beautiful.

• 1:20:10Speaker 00

I made my name my own a little bit.

• 1:20:11Drew Afualo?

  Hell, yeah.

• 1:20:11Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:12Drew Afualo?

And I, I'm someone with like a gender-neutral name, I guess you could call it, so I get it. Like, having a unique name.

• 1:20:17Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:20:18Drew Afualo?

D'arcy's already a very unique name to me.

• 1:20:19Speaker 00

But I think there was something, I was like, I don't know this name. D'arcy? I can barely say it. And then there was something about putting the, like, seeing her and being like, this chick, she just, she was just the coolest.

• 1:20:31Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:32Speaker 00

And I was like, okay, now this is like an idol. I like, I just was like, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna be her.

• 1:20:36Drew Afualo?

  That's amazing.

• 1:20:39Drew Afualo?

They're like, okay, yeah, no, for sure.

• 1:20:41Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:41Drew Afualo?

  Love that for you.

• 1:20:42Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:20:42Drew Afualo?

  It's okay, express yourself.

• 1:20:44Speaker 00

  Right, exactly.

• 1:20:44Drew Afualo?

Yeah, my, my mom named me after Drew Barrymore.

• 1:20:47Speaker 00

  Amazing.

• 1:20:48Drew Afualo?

Which is not the first thing that people think of, if you can believe. They're always like Drew Carey. I'm like, why is that the first one you think of?

• 1:20:54Speaker 00

I mean, no disrespect, but I would-

• 1:20:55Drew Afualo?

  But why him?

• 1:20:57Speaker 00

I'm naming my daughter after Drew Barrymore. Right.

• 1:20:59Drew Afualo?

Like, and when I got to meet Drew Barrymore, I did tell her that.

• 1:21:03Speaker 00

  What'd she say?

• 1:21:04Drew Afualo?

She was like, obviously, she, she was blown away and then she tongue kissed me.

• 1:21:07Speaker 00

Yeah, of course. But of course she did. She may have.

• 1:21:11Drew Afualo?

Obviously, right after that, she made out with me.

• 1:21:13Speaker 00

  You might be serious.

• 1:21:14Drew Afualo?

And then she crawled inside my pants and we left together.

• 1:21:16Speaker 00

  She is something else, man.

• 1:21:17Drew Afualo?

  She is, I love her.

• 1:21:18Speaker 00

  I-

• 1:21:19Drew Afualo?

I love her. She's just as beautiful and, um, in, into intimate as she seems.

• 1:21:24Speaker 00

I, like, was on her show and I didn't meet her backstage, I just met her onstage in front of the audience.

• 1:21:30Drew Afualo?

  Me too.

• 1:21:30Speaker 00

And I was like, what's happening? I truly was so, like, enamored with her.

• 1:21:37Drew Afualo?

  Same.

• 1:21:37Speaker 00

That I stole the mug off, I like stole the Drew mug. I kinda like left with it behind my bag to be like, back, to just be like, I need a piece of this.

• 1:21:45Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, this experience.

• 1:21:46Speaker 00

Whatever this moment was that we just had, I have to remember it for the rest of my life.

• 1:21:50Drew Afualo?

After we finished mine, cause I didn't get the couch, I got the desk, cause I'm, I'm a dipshit online. So I was at the desk. But when I did the desk bit with her, like, we did a whole thing. It was probably like eight minutes long and then it cut and they, they cut for like two minutes. And she was like, you're incredible. And I was like, oh my god, thank you so much Drew Barrymore, that means a lot to me. And then she was like, we should get dinner.

• 1:22:10Speaker 00

  Oh my god.

• 1:22:11Drew Afualo?

And I was literally like, like now?

• 1:22:13Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:22:13Drew Afualo?

What, are you busy? And then she laughed, I go, Drew Barrymore, you let me know. Like, she was like, would you wanna do dinner with me?

• 1:22:19Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 1:22:20Drew Afualo?

  Imagine I said no.

• 1:22:21Speaker 00

I know, you're like, maybe not dinner.

• 1:22:22Drew Afualo?

I was like, maybe a light lunch.

• 1:22:24Speaker 00

  Just a coffee.

• 1:22:25Drew Afualo?

  Maybe coffee.

• 1:22:26Speaker 00

  Yeah, we'll start with coffee.

• 1:22:27Drew Afualo?

  See if we vibe.

• 1:22:27Speaker 00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's so cute, would you wanna get dinner?

• 1:22:30Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, I was like, yes.

• 1:22:32Speaker 00

I know, it is funny, that dynamic where you're like, ball's in your court, doll.

• 1:22:35Drew Afualo?

Yeah. I know, you're trying not to play it too heavy, but you're like, I would love nothing fucking more than to go to dinner with you.

• 1:22:41Speaker 00

  Yes, yes.

• 1:22:42Drew Afualo?

I was like, well, you tell me, girl, you have more white space than I do. In my calendar, so you let me know. I'll run it by my team.

• 1:22:48Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:22:48Drew Afualo?

  We'll see.

• 1:22:49Speaker 00

  Oh my god.

• 1:22:50Drew Afualo?

But she's incredible. And as are you.

• 1:22:52Speaker 00

  As are you.

• 1:22:52Drew Afualo?

I, I think you're incredible. Look at us.

• 1:22:54Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:22:55Drew Afualo?

  We're twins, low key.

• 1:22:56Speaker 00

  I know, really.

• 1:22:56Drew Afualo?

There's, a lot of us are very similar.

• 1:22:58Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:22:59Drew Afualo?

  I'm a little freaked out.

• 1:23:00Speaker 00

I am too, down to like the making of the rings and

• 1:23:03Drew Afualo?

No, I'm telling you, the next time I see you, I'm gonna have an apostrophe from D and the R.

• 1:23:07Speaker 00

It would really, it would work.

• 1:23:10Drew Afualo?

Well, thank you so much for coming on the show. I think you're, I think you're incredible. And I think you're so talented and amazing and I'd love to disclose, if you could share like your best piece of advice for aspiring actors and like anyone who's, because we talked a lot about the process and like how grueling it can be, but how rewarding it can be. Uh, but do you have any advice for any aspiring actors or artists?

• 1:23:31Speaker 00

Thank you for saying all that.

• 1:23:32Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:32Speaker 00

I think like, the biggest thing is you really truly have to love it.

• 1:23:39Drew Afualo?

  Right.

• 1:23:40Speaker 00

And not like the outcome, not the like, accolades or the fame or the power or whatever. It's like you have to love the thing, the acting or the art.

• 1:23:50Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:50Speaker 00

Because there is other ways to get the other stuff.

• 1:23:53Drew Afualo?

Right, that's true. That's a great point, yeah.

• 1:23:55Speaker 00

And this is like, it is so grueling and hard and it's so, it beats you down. And that's part of the deal. It's like, don't feel alone in that because we're all, everybody has the rejection.

• 1:24:09Drew Afualo?

  Totally.

• 1:24:09Speaker 00

So, but if you love it so much that it's like you can't live without it, then, you know, just know that you're like in the right place.

• 1:24:16Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:17Speaker 00

And it's, it is a journey and it is, the ups and downs never stop.

• 1:24:21Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:21Speaker 00

But um, the highs are like as high as they could be.

• 1:24:24Drew Afualo?

And it's like a dream, I think, at that point especially.

• 1:24:27Speaker 00

It's living a dream. It's living your dream.

• 1:24:29Drew Afualo?

Yeah, I appreciate that too, especially the note about like, you could get any of that other stuff anywhere else because it's true.

• 1:24:35Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:24:35Drew Afualo?

And I think especially now with social media being so prevalent and especially so integrated with this industry now too. I think a lot of times people measure,

• 1:24:44Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:24:44Drew Afualo?

like success. Like they're like, these people are moving faster than me, just because you have visibility of them. But that's really the only difference between now and 20 years ago.

• 1:24:51Speaker 00

That is so true. And that, that is like so much easier said than done, but, but I, I wanna like, to not compare yourself to other people.

• 1:25:00Drew Afualo?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:00Speaker 00

And know that there's like enough space for everybody and know that like that role, her getting that role doesn't actually affect you.

• 1:25:07Drew Afualo?

No, and it doesn't take away from you. Totally.

• 1:25:10Speaker 00

Hard to grasp, but to remind yourself of that and really try to like subscribe to that philosophy, I guess.

• 1:25:17Drew Afualo?

Like, well, I'm sure subscribing to that kind of ideology too makes it more bearable.

• 1:25:21Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:25:21Drew Afualo?

  Like going through the trenches.

• 1:25:23Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:25:23Drew Afualo?

But also too, like what you said, like, Kind of locking in with people who are in it at the same time.

• 1:25:28Speaker 00

  I think that's huge.

• 1:25:29Drew Afualo?

  At the same phase.

• 1:25:30Speaker 00

Yes, to be able to not feel so alone because it can feel really lonely.

• 1:25:33Drew Afualo?

  Yeah, totally.

• 1:25:34Speaker 00

The people that you, in whatever way, came up with or take class with or friends that are kind of doing the same thing, maybe at different points in their career, whatever it is, like, being able to have some sort of community is like what, what got me here, what gets me there, like it's.

• 1:25:51Drew Afualo?

That's such, yeah, that's so true. And it's also too, when you start doing it for real, which is awesome, then it's like no one can relate to you outside of the people who do it.

• 1:25:59Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:25:59Drew Afualo?

Like, so when you're, it's like, those are your, my friends have described as like we're coworkers, like by that measure, even though we're all working on our own.

• 1:26:05Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:26:06Drew Afualo?

Like technically those are our coworkers because we don't clock in anywhere.

• 1:26:09Speaker 00

  That's right.

• 1:26:09Drew Afualo?

Like, so it's like I, I have no one else to bounce this off of, other than y'all. Well, I'm glad to say I've added you now to my friend list, D'arcy. Now you're on there too. Now I'm gonna bother you with my questions. And then I'll try, probably try to grow a nepotism branch or something, from you.

• 1:26:23Speaker 00

  We will work together.

• 1:26:24Drew Afualo?

Yeah, we'll work on it. I planted it with The Rock. I told him this is me growing a nepotism tree, obviously.

• 1:26:29Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:26:29Drew Afualo?

Now the branch is gonna reach to you.

• 1:26:30Speaker 00

But it is exciting to think like we can just work together someday.

• 1:26:33Drew Afualo?

  Yes!

• 1:26:34Speaker 00

  It like, this life rocks.

• 1:26:35Drew Afualo?

  Oh, me getting excited.

• 1:26:37Speaker 00

  Me too.

• 1:26:37Drew Afualo?

  Me getting chills.

• 1:26:38Speaker 00

Me too. See you on set, bitch.

• 1:26:41Drew Afualo?

For real. Well, thank you so much for coming on the show. I think you're a fucking hoot and you're a delight.

• 1:26:46Speaker 00

  Yay.

• 1:26:46Drew Afualo?

I can't wait to see you be in so many more things and I can't wait for all of you to see D'arcy's new show. Do you want to plug it for us?

• 1:26:54Speaker 00

Five Star Weekend, it's on Peacock.

• 1:26:55Drew Afualo?

  Yes.

• 1:26:56Speaker 00
