This episode of Smartless is sponsored by Google Book. You know, I'm lucky to have a lot of friends and having them over is great, but with hosting comes all the tedious stuff. The planning, keeping track of who's coming, managing schedules, making sure everything actually comes together. That's where Google Book comes in. It's a whole new kind of laptop. It comes with Google AI Pro, so you can create custom tasks with Gemini. For example, you can tell it to track RSVPs and manage your calendar, and it does that for you, even when the laptop's closed. We're gonna go cold. We're gonna go live in five. We're gonna go...

• 2:53Sean Hayes?

Will, let's do a quick cold.

• 2:55Will Arnett?

Let's do a quick cold. Let's do it in five.

• 2:57Sean Hayes?

  Like a quick freeze.

• 2:57Will Arnett?

When I get down, we're gonna go cold. This is how we count down to the cold open.

• 3:03Sean Hayes?

Right. Are you gonna say one, or are you just gonna stop at two?

• 3:06Will Arnett?

I'm not gonna say one, and I'm also not gonna say two. Old broadcast tells me I'm gonna go five, four, three.

• 3:10Sean Hayes?

By the way, you're wrong about that. You know, I've heard you say that before. Everyone always says the two. It's just the one that's not...

• 3:18Will Arnett?

Five, four, three. Welcome to the cold open. Welcome to Smartless.

• 3:40Sean Hayes?

  Ah.

• 3:42Will Arnett?

  Everybody take a breath.

• 3:42Sean Hayes?

  Hey, everybody.

• 3:43Will Arnett?

Jay, in through the nose, out through the mouth.

• 3:48Will Arnett?

  Now we start. Hi.

• 3:50Sean Hayes?

Hi. Hey. Thanks for coming today. Hey, you wanna know? Oh, go ahead.

• 3:55Will Arnett?

Oh, no, sorry. Do you have a story queued up?

• 3:57Sean Hayes?

Yeah, I just actually thought of this. Our show opened last Saturday.

• 4:02Jason Bateman?

You know, I saw you on my Instagram-ish thing. And you were saying hi to the audience, and I immediately got a little nervous. I was like, oh my god, there he is. He's onstage, he's in front... He did it. So you did it? You did an initial... Are we in previews right now?

• 4:18Sean Hayes?

Yeah, first preview went great, second one went terrible.

• 4:21Will Arnett?

I love all the photos. You look like you're standing on the bow of a boat. Because you're always like standing there like looking off into the distance.

• 4:28Sean Hayes?

Yeah, Simon the King of the world or something.

• 4:29Jason Bateman?

Yeah, he's proud and he's here. Hey, tell us, okay, so tell us what was good about the first and bad about the second.

• 4:37Sean Hayes?

Well, you'll relate. You like this kind of talk. This is talk and shop. You know, when you kind of connect to what you're saying, it's very real and it's authentic, right?

• 4:46Will Arnett?

  Right.

• 4:46Sean Hayes?

And then sometimes when you do a show after a million times, you sometimes, there's a little tiny veil between you and the words.

• 4:52Will Arnett?

  You dissociate.

• 4:53Sean Hayes?

Yeah, and so, but you're doing the actions and you're emoting, but it's a little manufactured.

• 4:58Will Arnett?

Yeah, and that's how the second show was.

• 5:00Sean Hayes?

That's how the second show was.

• 5:01Jason Bateman?

I bet the audience, I bet it didn't feel good, but I bet it still was good.

• 5:04Will Arnett?

Sean, explain to the audience a little bit, because you told me that, you and I spoke earlier and you told me that. And I said, well, that's to be expected. And I said that because

• 5:13Sean Hayes?

  It's very frightening.

• 5:14Will Arnett?

It's kind of a known thing, right? You do your first show.

• 5:17Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 5:17Will Arnett?

  And it's great.

• 5:18Sean Hayes?

  It's like gangbusters, yeah.

• 5:19Will Arnett?

And then there is that sort of sophomore slump.

• 5:23Sean Hayes?

Yeah, I guess, I wonder if it's an energy thing, like, oh, man, I'm exhausted, right? And then, maybe that's just, I don't know.

• 5:29Will Arnett?

And then you kind of build back up again.

• 5:30Sean Hayes?

Yeah, but when you're, yeah, when you're standing on the stage and you're saying the words and like your mind goes blank, but your mouth keeps talking.

• 5:38Jason Bateman?

Right. Was it just you going through this, or were the other, did the other actors have a good time? Was it a good show for them? How were they?

• 5:48Jason Bateman?

Because sometimes you can just rely on the rest of the team.

• 5:50Will Arnett?

And you know, JB and I and our crew were coming next week to see you. And JB, I don't know if you know this, this is the best news Sean told me today. You ready? It's an hour fifteen.

• 6:01Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 6:01Jason Bateman?

Ooh, it's a tight hour fifteen.

• 6:03Will Arnett?

We're at dinner before we know it.

• 6:07Jason Bateman?

Do I get to hold the book? Can I hold the book, front row?

• 6:10Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 6:10Jason Bateman?

And be the guy you turn to if you forget a line?

• 6:13Sean Hayes?

  I would love that.

• 6:14Jason Bateman?

And then I give you the wrong line? Or you just, you look to me and I just look up at you and I just give you a real polite middle finger.

• 6:20Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 6:21Will Arnett?

If you gave JB the book, I would say this is a compliment.

• 6:24Sean Hayes?

You just give me a line from Twelve Angry Men.

• 6:25Will Arnett?

JB would be off book in ten minutes.

• 6:28Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 6:28Will Arnett?

That's the way he's going to is.

• 6:29Sean Hayes?

Yeah, you would be really good at that.

• 6:32Will Arnett?

  It's ridiculous.

• 6:32Sean Hayes?

Yeah, but when those curtains open and the lights come on, you're like, oh, there's, I have to do this. It's the scariest thing in the world.

• 6:39Jason Bateman?

How was Scotty? Was Scotty a puddle of nerves? I bet he was.

• 6:42Will Arnett?

  He looked scared.

• 6:45Sean Hayes?

  But you know what?

• 6:46Will Arnett?

He looked like he doesn't know what to do.

• 6:49Sean Hayes?

I, I, I went to PT today, physical therapy, because I'm standing so long on stage. And so even right now, as I'm talking to you, I have to learn how to do sit-ups. Like, you know, like you-

• 6:58Will Arnett?

Oh, is that what they said? Engage your core, you gotta engage your core.

• 7:00Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, engage your core, yeah.

• 7:01Will Arnett?

PT doctors said the middle's too soft. And you're wearing, you're wearing double Hoka's, right? You've got custom double Hoka's on.

• 7:08Sean Hayes?

Hey, why don't you get one of those cashier mats?

• 7:11Will Arnett?

  Custom double Hoka's.

• 7:13Sean Hayes?

Hooked to the bottom of my shoes.

• 7:15Will Arnett?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 7:16Sean Hayes?

Yeah, cut out a couple of shoe-sized, shoe-sized cashier mats. Like snowboards, like.

• 7:22Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 7:24Will Arnett?

So you've got to engage, so you're doing sit-ups, you're trying to do exercises to engage your core.

• 7:29Sean Hayes?

Core, so you're back, right? You guys all know that, yeah. But I, I just kind of haven't been doing that. Anyway, who cares?

• 7:34Will Arnett?

Don't get me going on core.

• 7:36Sean Hayes?

Yeah. Guys, someone who has a really good core is my guest today. Here we go. He, he, he grew up in a remote Australian community, four hours from the nearest town, spent his teenage years surfing- He had income. And at one point repaired breast pumps in a factory for 10 bucks an hour. He moved to LA to be an actor and was about to quit until one last audition flipped the script.

• 7:58Will Arnett?

It's the way it always happens, isn't it?

• 7:59Sean Hayes?

He named his son after Brad Pitt's character in Legends of the Fall, but you may know him as Captain Kirk's father. It's the brilliant, charming Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth!

• 8:08Speaker 03

  Hello!

• 8:09Sean Hayes?

  Wow! Hello!

• 8:12Speaker 03

  How are ya?

• 8:13Sean Hayes?

  How are you?

• 8:14Will Arnett?

  I'm good. Chris.

• 8:17Sean Hayes?

Chris, guys, this is, Chris knows my wife, okay? Oh, really? I'll leave it at that. Well, we gotta start there.

• 8:24Will Arnett?

You'll leave it at that and I'll pick it up from there. Chris.

• 8:28Sean Hayes?

Wait, for real? Yeah, they've done a little bit of partying together. Oh, what does that mean? Yeah. It's getting worse.

• 8:35Speaker 03

Where have you been at all those parties, Mike?

• 8:37Sean Hayes?

  I know.

• 8:38Speaker 03

You weren't involved, or you weren't allowed to come?

• 8:40Sean Hayes?

I'm kinda jealous. Well, I lost my privileges years ago, and I think it's better for me to stay out of what we call trigger environments.

• 8:49Will Arnett?

Wait, wait. What are we alluding to? What happened with the parties?

• 8:54Jason Bateman?

They've got some mutual friends and they have fun and they create trips and they go places.

• 8:59Sean Hayes?

Like recently or in the past?

• 9:00Speaker 03

  Trips of O'Connes, yeah.

• 9:02Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I think recently, yeah. And then I, you know, I stay home and I, I just, I work on, I work on stuff. I do charity work, you know, and I, I fix the house, I take care of the kids.

• 9:12Will Arnett?

That's what I'm watching TV now, huh?

• 9:15Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 9:16Sean Hayes?

Can you share, Chris? Hi, nice to meet you, by the way.

• 9:19Jason Bateman?

  Hi, Chris.

• 9:19Sean Hayes?

Thank you for being here. Can you share, share with us one of those vacations or trips?

• 9:24Speaker 03

  Uh...

• 9:26Jason Bateman?

They're hard to recall, aren't they?

• 9:27Speaker 03

Yeah, they're quite, quite a blur. The last one was at Palm Springs and there was about, oh, cause...

• 9:33Sean Hayes?

  Oh, that's nice.

• 9:33Speaker 03

Fifty or sixty people flying out there and it was quite a big three-day event.

• 9:37Jason Bateman?

  Sounds so good.

• 9:39Speaker 03

And you were missed, Jason, but we talked about it.

• 9:41Jason Bateman?

I would have, I, I, God, I would have crushed that.

• 9:43Speaker 03

  You would have crushed that.

• 9:44Jason Bateman?

  In the day.

• 9:45Speaker 03

  Back in the olden days.

• 9:46Jason Bateman?

I'd still be there. Hey, Will, you know what? Well, it's amazing you and I never partied.

• 9:51Will Arnett?

I know. We did. We've been through this. We did one night. Jason doesn't, Chris, uh, Jason doesn't remember, but before our privileges, privileges were suspended years ago, Jason and I had a night out and then, oh, I don't want to get into the details of... But we were irresponsible in our twenties and there were moments where...

• 10:10Jason Bateman?

We had fun. I had some fun with David Cross too, a couple of times too. Anyway, done that, did that.

• 10:15Speaker 03

Three iPhones and cameras and you can kind of...

• 10:17Will Arnett?

Jason one time took his belt off. He tried to climb, he tried to climb a light pole once. I was with him and David Cross and I only stayed late because I was like looking out for their safety because they were both acting like ding-dongs. I remember I stole your, I had your belt for like two years.

• 10:30Jason Bateman?

Why did my belt come off?

• 10:33Speaker 03

It would have happened just after that.

• 10:36Jason Bateman?

  Was I looking to self-asphyxiate?

• 10:40Will Arnett?

  Anyway, Chris, welcome to Smarvis.

• 10:43Speaker 03

  Yes, thank you so much.

• 10:44Sean Hayes?

I want to start, like, in the intro, like, learn, I've read so much about you coming up to this, and I knew none of this. First of all, I just want to, in the intro, you named your son after Brad Pitt's character. Is that true? Tristan?

• 10:56Speaker 03

  It was a-

• 10:57Sean Hayes?

From Legend of the Fall? And did you talk about it with your wife?

• 10:59Speaker 03

Yeah, no, so, so we liked the name, and then we were sitting on the couch one day, we had a few different ideas, and that film came on, and the scene where he's on the horse and rolls into the, into the space, across, across the field, and couldn't look more legendary, and, um, me and my wife both went, "Oh, he's the coolest character ever, isn't it?" And his name was Tristan. And I was like, "What about Tristan? That could work," and then off we went.

• 11:27Sean Hayes?

How about that? That's pretty cool.

• 11:29Jason Bateman?

And now, has your kid grown into that name? Like, does he look like a Tristan now to you?

• 11:33Speaker 03

He does. I mean, he is shorter hair now, but he had, for the first kind of, I think he's 11 now, for the first kind of nine, 10 years, he didn't cut his hair, so it was long blonde hair.

• 11:43Will Arnett?

I mean, you really went with the Legends of the Fall.

• 11:47Speaker 03

Well, I didn't know if it was an influence by our doing, or whether there was some sort of, uh-

• 11:52Sean Hayes?

  It wasn't a Halloween costume?

• 11:54Speaker 03

  No, but he, um-

• 11:55Jason Bateman?

Did he look, did he look like mini Thor?

• 11:57Speaker 03

He absolutely did, yeah, and he's incredibly high energy, and rides horses and motorbikes and surfs, and so-

• 12:04Sean Hayes?

  Oh, that's cool.

• 12:05Speaker 03

He fits the, he fits the name.

• 12:07Sean Hayes?

  And did you ever-

• 12:08Speaker 03

  I would be proud.

• 12:09Sean Hayes?

Did you ever meet Brad and tell him that?

• 12:11Speaker 03

Uh, not that particular story, no. I met Brad once, and, and, uh, and I'm a big fan, obviously, and, yeah, I kind of had this awkward interaction where I went for the handshake, or he went for the handshake, I went for the hug, that kind of in-between thing, and-

• 12:25Sean Hayes?

  Oh, God, yeah.

• 12:27Speaker 03

It almost turned into a kiss, and then I was thrown out of the party.

• 12:31Jason Bateman?

My god, it would slow down too slow for me at that moment.

• 12:36Speaker 03

I was staring across the room, my agent was like, he wants to meet you. I'm like, who? Nah, he doesn't want to meet me, whatever. And then eventually, an hour later, I was like, oh, Brad, you're here. Oh, it's just trying to act all.

• 12:49Jason Bateman?

  Hey, look at you.

• 12:50Sean Hayes?

  One of those.

• 12:51Jason Bateman?

Where are you today? Are you, are you down under?

• 12:54Speaker 03

No, I'm in New York. I'm in a press tour for Crime 101, a film.

• 12:58Jason Bateman?

Oh, I can't wait to see that.

• 13:00Will Arnett?

You know where he is, JP. You can see, you can see where he is.

• 13:02Jason Bateman?

Oh, yeah, yeah, that's, that's right. Yeah, that light switch right there turns on the fireplace if you've been, if you've been looking.

• 13:09Speaker 03

  That's what that does.

• 13:10Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I never knew where, yeah, and it's gonna take a little while, it's gonna click for a bit, you won't explode.

• 13:16Jason Bateman?

Hey, that Bart Leighton, I love that guy. What a great director he is. I can't wait to see your film.

• 13:22Sean Hayes?

I just saw it last night, it was fantastic. I loved it. Yeah, incredible. Yeah. I edge of your seat the whole time.

• 13:29Jason Bateman?

  No notes?

• 13:30Sean Hayes?

  A couple.

• 13:31Jason Bateman?

Is it locked? They're not locked yet.

• 13:33Will Arnett?

  Always knows.

• 13:35Speaker 03

If you wanna give us any notes, off air, I can, I won't take them so personally.

• 13:39Jason Bateman?

Now, Chris, don't, don't you, don't you want, don't you want some, don't you want to do a film next that doesn't take like, six months to shoot and all these sort of life-threatening stunts you've got to do? And don't you want like a nice, calm, sort of like, like the equivalent of a sitcom, uh, in a movie?

• 13:57Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 13:57Jason Bateman?

You know, that you can just relax.

• 13:59Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the four, five, six month shoots are tedious and I know you've all experienced this, but unnecessary too, I feel like at this point, you know, like the, the, the technology of cameras and lighting and what you do in post-production and, everything is still done how we did it 10, 20 years ago. Yeah, and, and you have, you know, 20 big trucks there full of equipment sitting there just in case, and especially on the bigger budget, you know? And, and you just stand around and do nothing. Then you do a smaller film and everyone's, it's fast-paced, you don't have the luxury to sit around and wonder and, you know, it, it's, it's.

• 14:41Speaker 03

It feels like the preparation's almost done in a far more specific way because there's such a limited timeframe. And I love that style of working. Like, I grew up working on a soap opera and it was, we'd shoot twenty scenes a day. And as, you know, the scripts were not great, but you made them work. But just the momentum you get from that. And the sort of, just by having your feet on the ground continuously, day after day, the, um, the knowledge you gain from that, I think is fantastic.

• 15:10Jason Bateman?

Yeah, and learning, learning to be good quick, right? Like, you've, you've got to be good fast on those, on those soap operas, yeah?

• 15:18Sean Hayes?

Yeah. Yeah. Wait, what was the soap opera?

• 15:20Speaker 03

Or you're going to be bad fast too, which is what most of what I did.

• 15:24Jason Bateman?

Yeah, we just had Margot Robbie on. She said she was on a, a, a.

• 15:28Sean Hayes?

She was on Neighbours and you were on.

• 15:30Speaker 03

I did Neighbours for like an episode and then I did Home and Away, which is the sort of competing one.

• 15:35Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 15:35Speaker 03

Uh, for like three years and.

• 15:38Sean Hayes?

And when Margot was on, she talked about when she moved to LA that there was like an Australian mafia that helped each other out kind of thing. Right? You know what I mean? Were you part of that?

• 15:48Jason Bateman?

  There was like a driver.

• 15:49Speaker 03

To be honest, I always felt there was the Australian mafia kind of film industry. And then the, like, the folks that had trained at NIDA and I think Mel Gibson and Kate Blanchett and, you know, the big acting schools and, and then the theatre group. And then I was on the soap opera. And I always felt a little outside of that cool mafia bubble.

• 16:09Jason Bateman?

  Right.

• 16:09Speaker 03

And I, and I, I remember kind of turning up to a few premieres and, and kind of being on the guest list, but not really and having all those awkward moments and, and I, I honestly, when I came to LA, I didn't know that whole crew of Australian people. And, and I started working and eventually met them all and, and, you know, Joel Edgerton and, and a few folks that, you know, good friends of mine now.

• 16:31Jason Bateman?

  Love that Joel.

• 16:32Speaker 03

I always felt I was, um, I did, you know, I did a soap opera, I did Dancing with the Stars, so I wasn't seen as being taken seriously.

• 16:40Sean Hayes?

Everyone was giving you the Brad Pitt handshake.

• 16:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:44Will Arnett?

Did you rent a car from the Romanian guy? Margot rented a car from a Romanian dude who didn't require any ID.

• 16:51Speaker 03

  Oh, God, no.

• 16:55Jason Bateman?

Well, now I imagine you're fully embraced and it's all one big happy party.

• 17:00Speaker 03

It is. Because it's, um, it is such a small industry, you know? And, and those who have had success in Australia and make the leap overseas and work,

• 17:12Speaker 03

there is just such a cool gang of, you know, people in support now.

• 17:15Will Arnett?

It's remarkable. Again, we, we said it with Margot, but it's remarkable how many Australians come off those two shows and come and have huge success in this country.

• 17:24Jason Bateman?

  It's really cool.

• 17:25Will Arnett?

In the film business. It's, it's remarkable. It really is.

• 17:27Jason Bateman?

  It's the SNL of Australia.

• 17:30Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 17:32Jason Bateman?

SNL borns so many stars. All right. So you're in New York and you're doing a bunch of press for, um, uh, for Crime 101. I would imagine you're, you're gonna do a talk show or two, but are you, are you noticing, are you doing like some of the, the content stuff that is kind of like a part of most of these press tours now? Like, Willie, I know you've got a Hot Wings out there. I still haven't seen, but I'm dying to, but like. I saw clips of it. Yeah. So like every, have you been doing some of that stuff?

• 18:00Speaker 03

Yeah, I did. I actually did Hot Wings for a previous film. A lot of fun, but not, not on this.

• 18:05Jason Bateman?

How far did you get? Did you do all 10?

• 18:07Speaker 03

I did, and I was getting really cocky and kind of just more, more, more, more, more. And this one's not so bad. And Will, you know, by the like, the ninth or 10th one, it's just a different game. And they just stopped recording because I was like, throw up. And they got me ice cream and milk and I was.

• 18:22Will Arnett?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 18:23Speaker 03

And we were all supposed to go out for dinner that night and I hadn't eaten all day. And I did this, and by the time I did the show, it was the first thing I put in my stomach was this.

• 18:31Jason Bateman?

  So you were hungry too?

• 18:32Speaker 03

Bowl of hot sauce. And then I just, uh, went back to the hotel room and I sat there for the next 12 hours hugging the toilet bowl.

• 18:39Jason Bateman?

  Did you sit down?

• 18:40Speaker 03

I didn't. I was just on the floor. Nothing was operating properly. Everything wanted to come out.

• 18:45Will Arnett?

Why does it? It's so, I had to take the ice cream and I, and I ended up slathering it on my lips like zinc, like a, like a surfer.

• 18:53Jason Bateman?

Tell me slow. And then was it dripping down your chin?

• 18:56Will Arnett?

It was, I honestly, at one point I was like, I wanted to rip, like it was spurting so bad. And I was just, the whole time, I was slightly angry.

• 19:05Speaker 03

Yeah, and then you enjoyed it.

• 19:07Jason Bateman?

He just kept looking at Louis C.K.

• 19:08Will Arnett?

By the way, I did, I called him out. And by the way, the only reason I went all the way through is because they told me, JB, that you'd made it all the way through.

• 19:15Jason Bateman?

  Sure, not a problem.

• 19:17Will Arnett?

  Shut up.

• 19:18Jason Bateman?

This mouth can, this mouth can take a lot. Hey, but what, I only took one bite.

• 19:23Will Arnett?

There's nothing enjoyable about having it that hot. Anybody wants to have that shit on their food, like, what are you doing?

• 19:27Jason Bateman?

Did you eat the whole wing? I just took one bite.

• 19:29Will Arnett?

  No, one bite, one bite.

• 19:31Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 19:31Speaker 03

  Yeah, that's all it took.

• 19:32Will Arnett?

  That's all it took.

• 19:33Jason Bateman?

Well, Chris ate the bones, that's why he threw up.

• 19:35Speaker 03

Yeah. But I was just on, I did Graham Norton with John Bishop.

• 19:40Will Arnett?

Oh, you did? Yeah, oh, nice.

• 19:43Speaker 03

Lovely bloke and a fantastic film, by the way.

• 19:46Will Arnett?

Oh, thanks, man. He's a great dude, isn't he?

• 19:48Speaker 03

He's great. He's amazing. And he told the whole story. And yeah, what a beautiful, what a beautiful story. The kind of thing you can't write, you know what I mean? It's like, real life kind of shows you the better stories.

• 20:02Jason Bateman?

What would the sequel be on that, Willie? What would be the sequel?

• 20:05Will Arnett?

  Is this thing still on?

• 20:06Jason Bateman?

What's going on? Is this thing still on? What's, John Bishop, yeah, what would happen with you? And you'd go, you'd go to the Olympics with Laura, right?

• 20:17Will Arnett?

By the way, no bad pitches, keep going.

• 20:19Jason Bateman?

  And she'd win the gold.

• 20:20Will Arnett?

  As a coach.

• 20:21Jason Bateman?

She'd win the gold as a coach.

• 20:23Will Arnett?

  As a coach, yeah.

• 20:23Jason Bateman?

And then you guys would go on tour doing a stand-up, stand-up tour as a couple.

• 20:28Will Arnett?

And I'd get cancelled on tour.

• 20:32Will Arnett?

And then it would be, you know.

• 20:34Jason Bateman?

  Let's write it.

• 20:35Will Arnett?

  Yeah, let's write it.

• 20:36Jason Bateman?

  It writes itself.

• 20:39Will Arnett?

Chris, I haven't seen you since we were singing that song in that car, on that crazy commercial we did.

• 20:45Jason Bateman?

  Karaoke?

• 20:47Speaker 03

What was it? It was for a video game.

• 20:49Will Arnett?

  For a video game.

• 20:50Speaker 03

  Um, some head banging, uh.

• 20:53Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 20:53Jason Bateman?

  Sounds like a payday.

• 20:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:56Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 20:57Jason Bateman?

  Congrats.

• 20:57Speaker 03

And artistic, you know, uh, integral expression, all of that.

• 21:01Will Arnett?

Yeah, yeah, that too. It was a crazy huge production for a video game commercial. It was a mobile game.

• 21:07Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, it was, it, well, God, what was it called?

• 21:12Jason Bateman?

  Chris, do you play that?

• 21:13Will Arnett?

We had fun though. We loved it. We love it. We loved it so much.

• 21:16Jason Bateman?

We love whatever it was. Do you play those video games that you need like a headset to play? You know, you're shooting people up?

• 21:21Speaker 03

  Nah.

• 21:21Jason Bateman?

  Willie does that.

• 21:22Speaker 03

  Nah.

• 21:23Jason Bateman?

Well, you still do that, do you?

• 21:24Will Arnett?

I don't. It's been years, actually, to be honest. Yeah.

• 21:27Jason Bateman?

Um, I want to know. Sean, you're into Sonic, aren't you?

• 21:30Sean Hayes?

  Uh, the burgers or?

• 21:32Jason Bateman?

  No.

• 21:33Will Arnett?

  Immediately to food.

• 21:39Sean Hayes?

  We'll be right back.

• 21:42Sean Hayes?

• 25:09Jason Bateman?

And now, back to the show.

• 25:12Jason Bateman?

So, Chris, I want to know about growing up and talk to me how that started and where the first love came from. Like, what was the first thing?

• 25:20Will Arnett?

Also, like, also an acting family, Sean. It should be pointed out.

• 25:23Jason Bateman?

No, for sure. Well, I was getting there, well.

• 25:25Will Arnett?

  Well, I'm sorry.

• 25:28Speaker 03

Yeah, neither of my parents were actors. My mum has more of an artistic flair. You know, she paints a lot and writes, but was interested in acting and then she got pregnant with my older brother when she was 19 and then had me and then had my younger brother and so we kind of ruined our dreams in that sense.

• 25:51Jason Bateman?

And there's three? Are there any more than the three brothers?

• 25:53Speaker 03

No, it's just the three of us, yeah.

• 25:55Jason Bateman?

  There's three, yeah, okay.

• 25:56Speaker 03

And I grew up in Melbourne and then moved to Northern Territory in the outback and lived in an Aboriginal community there. And my dad was mustard cattle and buffalo and so on and it was...

• 26:08Jason Bateman?

  No way.

• 26:09Speaker 03

Yeah, it was a complete removal from the suburban Melbourne city life. We're literally, you mentioned before, but four and a half hours outside of Catherine, southeast Arnhem Land, and it's just a different world. Like, my most vivid memories and some of the most beautiful memories I've had from it.

• 26:27Jason Bateman?

How old were you when you left there?

• 26:30Speaker 03

I was, first time, I was about four to six and then came back to Melbourne for a year and then went back up for another year and a half.

• 26:39Jason Bateman?

Wow. So you know, do you know your way around a farm then with cattle and stuff like that? Could you get by?

• 26:45Speaker 03

Oh, yeah. I mean, I was young, you know. I was just kind of exploring and doing, you know.

• 26:50Jason Bateman?

  Doesn't make you uncomfortable, though?

• 26:52Speaker 03

No, no, no. I was around it all and was sort of fascinated by it.

• 26:55Will Arnett?

I don't think he gets uncomfortable with a lot, JB, let's be honest.

• 26:58Speaker 03

  No, he's surprised.

• 26:59Jason Bateman?

  Unlike me, yeah.

• 27:01Will Arnett?

He's, you know, he's not skateboarding around Hollywood, you know, going on auditions.

• 27:06Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I know. I'm so soft. Why am I so soft? I've grown up out back.

• 27:12Sean Hayes?

But, but what, but did you have like, this is a dumb question, but in the middle of basically nowhere where you grew up, like, what was the impetus for, did you have a TV and you're like, oh, I want to see that from that person on that TV show?

• 27:23Speaker 03

So the first time we lived there, we were in kind of shanty looking shacks and then a tent at one point. Like it was proper, like out in the middle of nowhere on different cattle stations. And so no TV during that time. The second time we had a TV and the, there was a truck that would come and deliver food and supplies to the community every, you know, month or so on, and he'd drop us off a couple of VHS tapes. And I remember watching, as a really young kid, Terminator one, a bunch of other random sort of things, which are great for kids at the age of five or six.

• 27:59Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, sure.

• 27:59Speaker 03

And, and, and I, it wasn't that that inspired me, but that was kind of,

• 28:07Speaker 03

I don't know, my earliest memories of what cinema was and that experience. And then I just loved watching movies and not so much to be an actor. It was more of like, oh, I want to be Legolas in Lord of the Rings and I want to go and, you know,

• 28:24Sean Hayes?

  Right.

• 28:24Speaker 03

swing a sword and be in that fantasy world and.

• 28:27Sean Hayes?

  Right.

• 28:28Speaker 03

And again, not escaping what I was in, you know, in my own world, but just the sheer adventure of it. And then by the time I was 18 and finishing high school,

• 28:41Speaker 03

it just became a real obsession like it does and like it needs to be, I guess.

• 28:45Sean Hayes?

  And, and. Right.

• 28:47Speaker 03

And then I did, yeah, did the soap opera and then off to LA and then.

• 28:51Sean Hayes?

Wait, I want to get back to, so the Whole Foods truck just drove right up to the community? And they just open up the back?

• 28:57Speaker 03

It was, there was, there was a, there was a big shed in this, in this community. There's a, you know, a lot of separate communities throughout Arnhem Land. And, and they would do deliveries with basic sort of, you know.

• 29:12Speaker 03

Bits and pieces that would go into this, what was the shop, which was literally just a big shed. I did a documentary actually with my dad.

• 29:19Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, incredible.

• 29:21Speaker 03

We go back to that that community. And it's the same shed there from thirty something years ago.

• 29:29Jason Bateman?

Did it come back to you?

• 29:30Speaker 03

Oh, my God, the huge like sort of nostalgia and

• 29:34Jason Bateman?

  Oh, wow.

• 29:36Speaker 03

The detail to which like these places prompted the vivid memories was was astounding.

• 29:42Jason Bateman?

Probably surprised you, right? You didn't know it was gonna come back?

• 29:44Speaker 03

I I I thought it would have changed dramatically and I went, oh, and I remember every little corner of the little streets we were living on and I remember what games I was playing at what places and where I was hanging out and and there was this big freezer in the back of this shed where they kept all the cold food. Which me and my mate, you should just go and sit in and, you know, eat the chocolate bars and so on because it was so hot out there in the in the middle of the outback. But it was, yeah, fascinating and beautiful place.

• 30:15Jason Bateman?

And that's still, is that still home? Is that still a main base for you, Australia?

• 30:19Speaker 03

Australia, yeah, Byron Bay. We live like northern New South Wales now and moved back there. Well, eleven, twelve years ago, it was kind of like my daughter is thirteen, my boys are eleven, so it was right around the time my boys were born. And it was, ah, it was just, we kind of were set up in L A and not enjoying it, you know, like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else, but.

• 30:46Will Arnett?

Well, you're traveling anyway, so you might as well. I mean, it's a lot longer, but you might as well live where you want to live. Is that the idea?

• 30:51Speaker 03

Yeah, and then we, you know, we'd come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that sort of that that space. And moved back back to Australia and in and that just was, it's been the greatest decision because it's such a. It's like, you know, when you you come back from work, you wanna go on a holiday. Like, coming home for me is, it feels like a holiday. We have

• 31:12Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 31:13Speaker 03

big farm and horses and rode bikes and surf and.

• 31:15Sean Hayes?

That's so cool. And that's how, I read that's how you guys, you and your brothers grew up too, just like, no helmets, riding, like, no supervision, just like, it's crazy, right?

• 31:25Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 31:26Sean Hayes?

  You know?

• 31:27Speaker 03

Not, not, yeah, not because my parents didn't care, it was just because.

• 31:30Sean Hayes?

No, right, I didn't mean that.

• 31:31Will Arnett?

  Jesus, Sean.

• 31:32Speaker 03

Jesus, no, no, no. But it was, we, we, we lived, uh, about twenty minutes from, like, the main sort of suburban areas in Melbourne, up in the, up in the hills. Um, and the nearest neighbor was, you know, a kilometer or two away, and it was just all bushland and rainforest sort of set up around us. And so we were just, you know, outdoors adventures and playing different characters. And I think that's, to be honest, where the sort of intrigue or interest into

• 32:02Sean Hayes?

  Uh huh.

• 32:03Speaker 03

that, you know, transportation into another.

• 32:05Sean Hayes?

  The, like, imagination.

• 32:06Will Arnett?

So then, so then, what, how, how do you go from that, from, uh, uh, and you, you have this sort of interest? And, and what, what was the first audition? Like, what was the first thing you go like, I'm gonna go read for that?

• 32:18Speaker 03

I, I, I had a, I did a, like, a, every Wednesday night, I used to drive an hour and a half into, into the city, into Melbourne, to do this acting course. It was like a two-hour, you know, session where they'd record everything you did, and you'd have a little VHS tape and, um, and, and you'd go home and watch it, and you'd go, wow, it doesn't look anything like I thought it would, and so it's kind of a shock to the system and trial by fire and a pretty good sort of wake up and. But, but you learn quick, you know, and, and as opposed to just doing acting classes and not ever being confronted with what you're actually putting on screen.

• 32:54Sean Hayes?

You learn a lot from watching yourself? I, I, I, I do about what, you know, oh shit, don't do that again.

• 32:59Speaker 03

A hundred percent, yeah, yeah, yeah. And, and all your little sort of tells or habits or things you're repeating, you're like, oh, wow, that's, that's, I thought I was kind of in a completely different space, and I'm doing exactly the same thing I did before.

• 33:11Sean Hayes?

  Right, right, right.

• 33:13Speaker 03

But I got an agent, and then my first audition was, uh, I, I think, the first job I got was, I think it was called The Saddle Club. Um, it was a Canadian Australian show about, um.

• 33:25Sean Hayes?

Sean, you used to run the door at The Saddle Club, didn't you?

• 33:31Will Arnett?

  Run the door.

• 33:33Sean Hayes?

I still do. I still do, just for some extra money on this.

• 33:36Jason Bateman?

We take those easy, cheap shots. Feel free to jump in anytime you think of one.

• 33:42Speaker 03

It was about, it was a show based around horses and, and, and, you know,

• 33:47Sean Hayes?

  Same.

• 33:47Speaker 03

Horse club and, and I came in as a vet at the age of 18, you know, as a doogie house

• 33:52Sean Hayes?

  No way.

• 33:53Speaker 03

  of the vet world.

• 33:54Sean Hayes?

  That's funny.

• 33:55Jason Bateman?

Sean would let the bears in too, as well as.

• 33:57Will Arnett?

Sure. So he was a vet of sorts, I guess, in that way.

• 34:01Sean Hayes?

Veteran, yeah. Wait, um, which, which brother got the first job?

• 34:05Speaker 03

Um, my older brother Luke, he worked on Neighbours actually for, for a while as a, um,

• 34:10Sean Hayes?

  Okay.

• 34:11Speaker 03

  steroid selling, uh, football player.

• 34:14Sean Hayes?

  Mmm.

• 34:15Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:15Sean Hayes?

  That's funny.

• 34:16Speaker 03

  Quite a role. And then.

• 34:18Sean Hayes?

And then, and in the intro, I read that one job that, because you said you wanted to quit and now, I mean, like Jason was saying, it always happens that way. When you're like, I can't do this anymore. And then something in the universe goes, wait a minute.

• 34:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:29Sean Hayes?

You have to. And what was that? Was that Cabin in the Woods?

• 34:32Speaker 03

Yeah, it was, it was. And it's funny, it's, is it the universe or is it this sort of you've just surrendered to, to the process and you remove some of the desperation that may be coming out.

• 34:45Sean Hayes?

You kind of hit fuck it.

• 34:45Speaker 03

  You fuck it, yeah.

• 34:46Sean Hayes?

And, and people can tell. And it's kind of, uh, it's that sexy indifference, guys.

• 34:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:51Sean Hayes?

  Right?

• 34:52Will Arnett?

Now, what is that? So what is that expression?

• 34:54Sean Hayes?

Oh, here's, so here's what it is.

• 34:58Will Arnett?

  It is true.

• 34:59Sean Hayes?

  It's a bumper sticker.

• 35:00Will Arnett?

It's amazing. We, we've all know what that means.

• 35:03Speaker 03

When you're exhausted or you, you come in and you're hungover or what, and all of a sudden it's like, you, your body just doesn't have the strength to light your, you know, your, your, your being up with adrenaline. And you're just kind of sitting just in a pocket.

• 35:21Will Arnett?

You're not thirsty, you're not looking, you're not desperate, you're just like, this is me. This is the way it is. Take it or leave it. And there's something about that. People are like, I like that.

• 35:29Speaker 03

Which it comes, it comes, comes through the like excessive sort of, the preparation too, you know what I mean? Like, and that was what I learned. Like I was then would try and replicate that by like not caring, which of course I did care. So it was like, well, how can I get to the point where I can let go? And then it was just about over preparation and, and, and where there was no stone unturned. Then you felt like, well, I've done everything I could. Anytime I would walk into a room and audition and feel like, oh, you could have learned these lines a bit better. Or you should have done this. And then that kind of voice takes off and does all sorts of shitty things.

• 36:03Jason Bateman?

Have you ever fallen into the trap? I used to fall in this trap of trying to pretend like I didn't care.

• 36:08Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 36:08Jason Bateman?

Acting, acting twice in an audition. It was like the most idiotic, most exhausting bullshit thing. Like I'm already sweating, you know, trying to pretend like I, I'm not gonna sweat.

• 36:19Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:21Sean Hayes?

Um, wait, so just a sidebar, I was gonna say is the day that Cabin in the Woods came out was also the same day. My movie Three Stooges came out, but I think you guys beat us. Anyway, moving on.

• 36:30Will Arnett?

This picture, let me tell you something about this picture. This idiot, D3, he's brilliant, he's stupid, they cut the wind.

• 36:39Speaker 03

  Was it the same day?

• 36:40Jason Bateman?

Sean, I actually watched 10 minutes of that, like not four days ago.

• 36:43Sean Hayes?

Thank you. What, The Three Stooges?

• 36:45Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:46Sean Hayes?

  No, you didn't.

• 36:47Will Arnett?

  On the big screen?

• 36:48Sean Hayes?

You gave it, you gave it a full 10 minutes?

• 36:49Jason Bateman?

A full 10 here on the TV. And then we lost power or something like that. And so I couldn't see anymore, but.

• 36:55Sean Hayes?

  Sure.

• 36:55Will Arnett?

It literally crashed the power at your house.

• 36:59Speaker 03

Jason, you, you, you mentioned before, you, you know Bart Leighton or you?

• 37:04Jason Bateman?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm a huge fan of his film, uh, American Animals. And, um, I, I just, uh, I started pursuing him like some crazy fan after that. And, uh, he sat down and had lunch with me and humored me for a bit. Uh, but yeah, I cannot wait to see this, uh.

• 37:20Speaker 03

He's, he's incredible. Uh, this was, I think, the sort of the best experience I've ever had in a set. And I've had some amazing times and, and it kind of reminded me, to be honest, of like Furiosa with George Miller. Felt like this and, and Rush many years ago. Um, and it's, it's a thing where there's just this beautiful, um.

• 37:44Speaker 03

He is just such a such a craftsman, such a master. Attention to detail is is beyond anyone I've ever seen.

• 37:52Jason Bateman?

Some of those shots are incredible.

• 37:53Speaker 03

It shot the cinematography stunning and he wrote the script. So there's this, you know, deeper sort of understanding of of of every element to it. But then it's just this kind, collaborative, humble human being, which you don't get the two.

• 38:08Jason Bateman?

I was just gonna say that kind, yeah, kind leadership, right? Ron Howard on Rush, Bart on this. It just it it ends up yielding like great input from this entire team.

• 38:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 38:22Jason Bateman?

If somebody at the top is not a monster.

• 38:25Will Arnett?

  You should look into that.

• 38:26Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I'm reading and reading and I just.

• 38:28Will Arnett?

  Take note.

• 38:29Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 38:30Will Arnett?

Because I've heard a lot of stories from your stats, from a lot of, I get a lot of anonymous emails.

• 38:34Jason Bateman?

A lot of it's true. A lot of it's true. I'm working on it.

• 38:38Will Arnett?

Yeah, real Groucher me, Groucher tin is your nickname. JK, everybody loves JK.

• 38:46Jason Bateman?

Wait, so so a couple of like things I didn't know. Okay. Are we back off the sidebar or we're into mainstream questioning?

• 38:53Will Arnett?

I don't know if we have enough time for this segment, things you don't know.

• 38:56Jason Bateman?

No, but look, you've got, I love all the places you'll go, right? So you, right, so, right, so when I, first of all, talk about your tattoos. I want to, then I'll get into that. So you've got tattoos, which I never, I didn't know you've had this many tattoos. So tell us, tell us the tattoos you have.

• 39:13Speaker 03

Uh, they're a bunch of random kind of, um.

• 39:17Jason Bateman?

  Start with the back tat.

• 39:18Speaker 03

Starts the back tat, the Harley Davidson and the hawk.

• 39:21Jason Bateman?

No, no, no, the one on the tailbone.

• 39:23Will Arnett?

  Low back.

• 39:24Speaker 03

  Oh, the barbed wire.

• 39:25Will Arnett?

  Low back.

• 39:26Jason Bateman?

The one that says, just breathe.

• 39:29Speaker 03

  Open for business.

• 39:31Jason Bateman?

  Oh, my God. That's hilarious.

• 39:35Speaker 03

My tattoos, I have a Dr. Seuss tattoo. My daughter was, I used to read that book to her a lot and um, and my mom read it to me. Uh, all the places we go, you'll go. And um, she just would draw that little character and loved it. And so I got that tattoo. Oh, I love that.

• 39:52Sean Hayes?

  Isn't that great?

• 39:53Speaker 03

And then a few years later, I was like, I'm kind of sick of it. So I started getting it taken off and I did like one laser session. And then she came home one day, she goes, it's rubbing off. What happened to it? It's rubbing off. And I was like, oh, did you, do you still, I don't know. Do you, I thought you were sick of it. She goes, no, I love it. I love it. So it's now kind of half faded, you know, but it's still there. And then I've got another, um, it's a bunch of my arm, actually, the little drawings that she did, that I was sitting with a tattoo artist, um, one night. And it was like 10 o'clock and he's designing all these different things and all this sort of sacred geometry and trippy looking stuff. And my daughter walked out and goes, Dad, I can't sleep. You're making too much noise. I'm like, sorry, sorry. And she sits down and starts squiggling and, um, and drew the three little images here,

• 40:38Speaker 03

which one of them is just, and the guy next to us goes, that's the Wheel of Dharma. It's the eight steps to enlightenment. So it's this, she's drawn that.

• 40:46Sean Hayes?

  Oh, really?

• 40:47Speaker 03

And then the five pointed star and, you know, it's just so. He looked at me and goes, I think they're way cooler than anything we're designing. And so took a photo of that and that's that. And then, um,

• 40:57Jason Bateman?

  That's awesome.

• 40:58Sean Hayes?

  So cool.

• 40:59Speaker 03

A bunch of other sort of scribbles.

• 41:00Sean Hayes?

And you're, and you're a vendor's friends, which is cool.

• 41:02Will Arnett?

I made, I made disparaging remarks about people with, uh, pod, uh, with, um, tattoos on a podcast in the UK. Do you know that guy Roma? She's hilarious. Do you know that dude over in London? Anyway, I made it, I made, I made a sweeping generalization kind of as a bit, and I got a bunch of hate from it.

• 41:18Speaker 03

  What was it?

• 41:18Will Arnett?

Because I was like, I said that, I said, there's a direct correspondence between the more tattoos you have. By the way, I don't even believe this. The more tattoos you have, the less interest, the more, more tattoos you have, the more boring you are. All I said was boring. People freaked out and I'm like, I'm just fucking around. It's like, I, I don't have a scientific opinion on this. I'm just fucking around.

• 41:40Jason Bateman?

Sounds, sounds like someone who would, who would like a few tattoos. Would you like a couple?

• 41:45Will Arnett?

I would like a couple, actually.

• 41:46Sean Hayes?

  I thought you were.

• 41:47Will Arnett?

  I don't have one.

• 41:49Jason Bateman?

All I have are just my kids here on the inside of my arm. Uh, that's it. But I, I feel like I want like a thousand more. I feel like the dam, the dam is broken.

• 41:58Will Arnett?

Friends who are covered in tattoos, that would mean that I hate all my friends.

• 42:03Speaker 03

The problem is I get, I get sick of them and so I'm into them for a few weeks.

• 42:07Will Arnett?

  That's what I'm worried about.

• 42:08Speaker 03

I want to just get them all removed and.

• 42:10Will Arnett?

But you're not sick of the ones from your kids, though.

• 42:12Speaker 03

The kids ones that have a bit of something to it, but I've got some other ones that like a weird sort of psychodrometry one which looks like the Illuminati kind of vibe to it.

• 42:21Sean Hayes?

I love all those little tiny drawing ones, you know, like, like, I think like what you were showing on your arm, like, just like, the little doodles.

• 42:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, that's what I, yeah.

• 42:29Sean Hayes?

I love that. I want some of those.

• 42:31Will Arnett?

I, I love, you know, there, but then you get a lot. Do you have any of the ones? I see people like, like on their arm. It's like, stay alert. And I'm like, do you have to look at it to remind yourself?

• 42:42Sean Hayes?

And if you're looking at it, you're not alert.

• 42:43Will Arnett?

  Just breathe, just breathe.

• 42:45Speaker 03

I don't have any, any quotes or any.

• 42:48Will Arnett?

I wanted, JB, I always threatened that if the Leafs win the Stanley Cup, I'm going to get my whole back of Wendell Clark, who's been retired for years, but my hockey idol, holding the Stanley Cup on my back. I think I'm safe for now, for a while.

• 43:01Sean Hayes?

Oh, yeah. We're, we're struggling along with you here in Los Angeles.

• 43:04Will Arnett?

Sean, you don't have any, right? You don't have any.

• 43:06Sean Hayes?

No, I've always wanted one. I was one like a.

• 43:08Will Arnett?

Let's do one, let's design, I'll design one for you and then you design one for me.

• 43:12Sean Hayes?

Sean, if you had to put, if you had to get a tattoo of a snack food on your body, what would it be? You have to, guns to your head, one snack food on the body.

• 43:20Will Arnett?

  Yeah.

• 43:21Sean Hayes?

  It would have to probably.

• 43:22Will Arnett?

And it can't be hot dog.

• 43:23Sean Hayes?

Can it be, can it be a Twinkie? What about a Twinkie? No, it'd probably be a Snickers bar. A Snickers bar. And where would you put that?

• 43:33Sean Hayes?

What about right on my neck? Just.

• 43:34Will Arnett?

Right on your tummy, right across your tummy, because that's where it ends up.

• 43:38Speaker 03

Lower back, that's the same way, next to Bob Wire.

• 43:43Sean Hayes?

And people, because that's what people will snicker.

• 43:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:46Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 43:48Sean Hayes?

  We'll be right back.

• 43:52Sean Hayes?

• 47:10Sean Hayes?

All right, back to the show.

• 47:13Sean Hayes?

So, Chris, in Crime 101, this is, I mean, we always talk about this on this podcast, but like, when people from Australia or the UK have to do these American accents, and they're so good, and they're so believable, and then you speak in your regular Australian... It's just like, I don't know what happens. It's like, wow, how do you do that? I could never do an Australian accent. That's the hardest one.

• 47:33Will Arnett?

  Try it right now.

• 47:34Sean Hayes?

  No, I couldn't do it.

• 47:35Jason Bateman?

  Guns to your head.

• 47:36Sean Hayes?

I can say one word, chest is chiste. That's all I know.

• 47:40Speaker 03

  That sounds more kiwi. Chiste.

• 47:42Sean Hayes?

  That sounds what?

• 47:43Speaker 03

Like kiwi, it sounds like more New Zealand. Chiste.

• 47:46Sean Hayes?

  Oh, it does?

• 47:47Speaker 03

  We'd say chest.

• 47:48Sean Hayes?

  Oh, you would say chest?

• 47:49Jason Bateman?

  Say aluminium, Sean.

• 47:51Sean Hayes?

  Aluminium.

• 47:52Speaker 03

  Aluminium.

• 47:52Sean Hayes?

  I can do a British one, I can't do a...

• 47:54Will Arnett?

Oh, let's hear that guy. Let's hear that guy. I mean, I... A visit from that guy.

• 47:57Speaker 03

It's, we, I think, I mean, most of our television and film growing up is American, so there's a bit of, you know, we have an ear for it, I guess. But I've also screwed it up many times as well, and, you know.

• 48:08Sean Hayes?

No, you're brilliant at it. How often will you go back in? Will you ask, like, you'll see an early cut of something, and you'll ask the...

• 48:13Jason Bateman?

Director, hey, could I go in and redo that line or that line?

• 48:16Speaker 03

More now, like, I didn't even know I had the option in the past. And I, you know, I see some review talking about, you know, not so favorably. And then the worst was a Scottish accent I did for something. And and someone said, it's the worst Glaswegian accent we've heard since the fat bastard in Austin Powers.

• 48:35Jason Bateman?

Which is one of the greatest all time.

• 48:37Speaker 03

I was like, oh, you did a great job.

• 48:39Jason Bateman?

Yeah. I love these guys on the sidelines throwing bombs like that to do it. I know. I think you're brilliant at it. And what about, and then you met, didn't you meet Elsa, your wife, through a dialect coach?

• 48:52Speaker 03

We did, yeah, yep, yep. It was a.

• 48:54Jason Bateman?

Like, what was she going for?

• 48:56Speaker 03

Um, the dialect coach or Elsa?

• 48:59Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I mean, but I meant like, why, like, why were you there at the same time?

• 49:02Speaker 03

Oh, no, we just, we were both training separately with her. And she said, oh, I think you'd like it, you know, someone else I'm working with. And and I said, oh, what's her name? And looked her up and thought, oh, gee, looks lovely. Sure, give me a phone number.

• 49:15Jason Bateman?

  Really? That was that simple?

• 49:16Speaker 03

And then we, now we went out for dinner and then and then I went and shot a movie and then came back at dinner. And then went off, shot, shot another movie. And so it was like we weren't together, but we'd sort of been in contact for kind of eight months. And then got together very quickly, had kids and marriage and all that fun stuff.

• 49:31Will Arnett?

But that's nice, though. That's kind of a nice slow burn, though. Like, you kind of like ease into it a little bit, a couple of dinners are in there.

• 49:36Speaker 03

Yeah, a bit of distance, kind of long distance.

• 49:38Jason Bateman?

Was that a novel idea to you, Will? Just a couple of dates before you start?

• 49:43Jason Bateman?

Hey, so wow, so you took her out to dinner a couple of times, did you?

• 49:49Jason Bateman?

So Chris, so Chris, your kids are now at the age where they can see how badass dad is. And they can appreciate kind of like what a set is like and that that might be a fun sort of atypical work environment. Are any of them getting kind of the the bug to do what you do? Any interest there?

• 50:10Speaker 03

Yeah, they do. My my daughter was in Love and Thunder, the last Thor film.

• 50:15Jason Bateman?

  Yeah.

• 50:15Speaker 03

And she played Christian Bale's daughter. And then she's.

• 50:20Jason Bateman?

  Did she dig it?

• 50:20Speaker 03

Yeah, but she was like. She's, I asked her to, you know, I said, look, I can, you want to do this role? And, and she goes, oh, yeah, cool. What do I have to do? And, and I said, I'll just read these lines. She goes, no, I don't want to read the lines. And I was like, well, I'm gonna record something to send to Kevin Feige. She's like, no, I'm not doing it. And I was like, okay, well, you can't do it. She goes, no, but I want to do it. I'm like, yeah, but you got, this is like an audition.

• 50:43Sean Hayes?

  She won't read.

• 50:44Speaker 03

So she finally, finally did it. They were like, great, loved it. And then she did Avengers and, and this is three, four years later. And by this point, she's so much more jaded about it all. She kind of is like, doesn't, hates the whole scene and everything. But, you know, it tells me she enjoys acting. We do one take, wide take, mostly sort of in my direction. And she gets up and goes, oh, okay, we're done? I said, nah, you're serious? And she goes, how much longer? And I'm like, we're here all week and you've, we've, you've done like one wide shot. And every single time we'd go back to the tent or the trailer and they'd call us in. She'd be like, oh, God. And I was like, India, you begged, you begged me to do this. You wanted to do it.

• 51:27Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 51:27Speaker 03

And then her brothers are like, we'll do it, we'll do it. Why, you're such a suck, India. And so they probably have more, my boys probably have more of a, like, I don't know. They like the kind of, they're a bit more of a showman kind of, you know, they like that spice and then.

• 51:41Sean Hayes?

How were the Russos on her? Did the Russos take care of her or was Joe just hammering her with notes?

• 51:46Speaker 03

Yes, heaps of notes, backstory incessant on sort of the study and the prep she'd done. No, not at all. They were fantastic.

• 51:53Sean Hayes?

And, and Chris, do your, do your kids, I read, I read that they critique your movies. Do they actually write them or do they just tell you?

• 52:01Speaker 03

No, they'll just blatantly tell me. I mean, they're, they're, it's, but that whole generation, they're like, yeah, visual effects weren't as good in that one, Dad, or the reactions. I don't ever remember commenting on any of that as, as a kid.

• 52:14Jason Bateman?

Yeah, my kids never like watching anything that's like five years old. That's, that's, that's sick.

• 52:19Will Arnett?

My kids, my kids came, my kids came and saw our, my brother, is this thing on? And Abel, my 15 year old, goes, a lot better than that one, the movie you did with the talking dogs. I go, hey, dude.

• 52:32Will Arnett?

Did your braces get paid for?

• 52:35Speaker 03

How you doing the house you're living in?

• 52:36Will Arnett?

  Yeah, pretty comfy.

• 52:38Sean Hayes?

  Exactly.

• 52:39Will Arnett?

  Pretty comfy right now.

• 52:40Sean Hayes?

Do your kids, do your kids give it up, Chris? Well, like if you do something great, will they go, you know, dad?

• 52:44Will Arnett?

  They must.

• 52:45Speaker 03

No, no, they're, they're really, they're really supportive. They're, um, they, they remember the first time when they were sort of realizing what it was that I did. And the first time my son, I took him to the cinema to watch, um, to see Thor. And he was just running up and down the aisle. And I was like, just gotta sit down. And he's jumping up and down the chairs. And I was just like, you know, just trying to sit him down and hold him down. And then I was like, fuck, this is my movie. I'm fucking on the screen, you know, worried about someone's gonna yell at us. But I thought, and then, and then the end, he was like having so much fun. He's sweating, he's sweating, and he's like, right, let's go. And then so he left halfway through and he ran up and down the hallway.

• 53:27Speaker 03

He's like that, his temperature's big, but, but he, he became obsessed with it. And had the little hammer that he'd run around with and smash things and.

• 53:35Sean Hayes?

  Oh, really?

• 53:35Will Arnett?

I mean, I mean, that is, I get it. My, my, my 15 year old wishes you were his dad too. It's unbelievable.

• 53:43Sean Hayes?

There's a long, long line of kids.

• 53:45Speaker 03

But it's changing, like, like the 11, 13 year old time when, you know, there's a whole new vernacular and all this sort of new, new language they seem to roll with. And, and everything's got like a sarcastic sort of twist to it now. Cause all the YouTube shit and so on. And I'll say something and they've gone, ugh, cringe. I'm like, no, no, no, no, I'm, I'm fucking cool, right? I'm not, I'm not, I'm one of the cooler dads, right? And it's like, it's all fading in the distance.

• 54:15Sean Hayes?

I love that, you know, this, Avengers Doomsday, I was at Anthony Russo's house and we saw the trailer. We were the first people to see the trailer.

• 54:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:22Sean Hayes?

  It was, it was incredible.

• 54:24Speaker 03

  That's cool.

• 54:24Sean Hayes?

This will be the, I don't know if you know this, this will be the 10th time you've played Thor, which is really cool.

• 54:30Speaker 03

  It's wild, I know.

• 54:32Sean Hayes?

It's wild. I mean, that's, that's really, really, really cool.

• 54:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:36Sean Hayes?

  Oh, really? There's more?

• 54:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:38Sean Hayes?

  Oh, that's great.

• 54:39Speaker 03

Yep. But there's, it's, it's just been the, um, it's been so much fun. And it's, what I've really enjoyed is. Unlike, I think a lot of what the other characters that the scripts were given, they have had to be pretty consistent, whereas working with Taika on his films versus Kenneth Branagh with those films, and then from, um, you know, with the Russos, all had quite a different sort of tonal opinion, but also let me kind of try different things. Cause I was getting, same with my tattoos, I was getting really bored of the same thing and having a real need to kind of just throw in different directions. And I was talking to Kevin about it and he said, ah, it's cool because we've,

• 55:24Speaker 03

the audience now expect dramatic turns with the character. And whatever we do next, that we've got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and or hopefully be.

• 55:34Jason Bateman?

Yeah, I was gonna say, you must have ideas, you guys all must have ideas about where your characters might go. Because now, now you guys, I guess for a long time now, you guys have been going, um, there aren't comic books to write these scripts off of, you guys have gone past those. And so, um, do you guys, is there?

• 55:54Will Arnett?

There's also an obligation though, JB, within, isn't there like a, not an obligation, but like, because the fans are so, they know these characters so well. So you've got to handle it kind of with care, like you take chances.

• 56:06Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:07Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 56:07Will Arnett?

But you've also got to like, make sure that they don't get pissed off.

• 56:11Speaker 03

No, for sure, because you, I mean, you still can pull from, there's so many different stories within the comic books. And you pull from ideas and certain, you know, directions, but, and each, even, even, um, within the different comic book artists, writers, they had sort of slightly different takes as well, so there's variations. But, um, you do have to be careful because when we made Ragnarok, it was quite a twist, you know, and with Taika's tone.

• 56:38Sean Hayes?

  Such a great movie.

• 56:39Speaker 03

And it was, and it was so fun and there was a huge kind of like appreciation for the shift. And then Love and Thunder was kind of like a Monty Python sketch and we we sort of took the piss probably a little much and then then there was some of that backlash, you know, that there was the sort of real kind of, why is he a goofball and why is it this? And, and, you know, violently offended and we were like, oh, we're just, you know, having fun or trying to try something different and so.

• 57:07Jason Bateman?

But it is cool that there's that partnership there though with the with the with the audience as well as the filmmakers. That doesn't really exist in other, I mean, maybe Star Wars, there's some of that as well, but it's, that part is really cool.

• 57:20Will Arnett?

Star Wars, sorry, he just said Star Wars.

• 57:22Sean Hayes?

If you can stick around for a couple of hours, we can talk about Star Wars. Wait, what about like in the intro, I didn't know, this is total left turn, but when you were growing up, you repaired breast milk pumps? What?

• 57:35Speaker 03

Yeah, I worked for Fisher and Paco, this home, what do you call it, white goods.

• 57:43Jason Bateman?

  Home goods?

• 57:44Speaker 03

  Yeah, fridges and.

• 57:46Will Arnett?

  They also make dishwashers.

• 57:47Speaker 03

Dishwashers and they make breast pumps.

• 57:49Will Arnett?

They make the, I didn't know that.

• 57:51Speaker 03

And they would rent them to different pharmacies and chemists and they would come back to us and I'd have to repair them when the like the little belt, the motor belt would break. I'd also have to clean all the dried milk that was on them. So I'd have a toothbrush and spray and wipe and that was, that was my first, my first job.

• 58:10Sean Hayes?

  How about that?

• 58:12Speaker 03

A lot of time to think about what else I would prefer to be doing.

• 58:15Sean Hayes?

Yeah, for sure. And, and you're a big surfer and you do snowboarding and it's like, what, by the way, is it, is there snow there in Australia right now?

• 58:24Speaker 03

There's not, yeah, it's summer now, but I was just in Cauchy-Vaux, France, last week with my family, snowboarding.

• 58:31Jason Bateman?

  Did you do some skiing?

• 58:31Speaker 03

Yeah, I did a lot of skiing, a lot of snowboarding and kids were all doing backflips.

• 58:36Will Arnett?

Did you, did you, you must have played a lot of sports growing up?

• 58:39Speaker 03

Yeah, I did the 110 hurdles. That was my, that was my event.

• 58:43Sean Hayes?

  Ah, really?

• 58:44Speaker 03

I wasn't quite quick enough for the, for the hundred, but I was tall enough and agile enough for the hurdles. So it was a good combination.

• 58:50Jason Bateman?

What about footy? Do you play any footy?

• 58:52Speaker 03

  AFL football, yep. And.

• 58:54Will Arnett?

  AFL?

• 58:55Speaker 03

Played for eight or nine years and then when I was 17, I dislocated my shoulder and. Tore all the ligaments and and it was I'd been surfing a lot at the same time and so I'd eight weeks of sitting on the couch doing nothing and I was like, oh, I don't wanna risk not surfing anymore and and then sort of gave that up and.

• 59:13Will Arnett?

Must be a lot of dislocated uh shoulders in AFL.

• 59:17Speaker 03

Every injury I have now that like back and things that start to play up, I swear were from like nine years of just getting belted on the football field like it's it's intense and and your your body would shatter if you got hit at that speed now but running full pelt into each other, you know, I got two concussions when I was like fourteen, fifteen.

• 59:38Will Arnett?

I remember going to I go to Australia, going to Melbourne and seeing a going to an AFL match and just watching and just seemed like the pure athleticism of these guys, running, kicking, catching, tackling, all of them, just incredible athletes, just amazing. I'm surprised, yeah, it's wild.

• 59:53Jason Bateman?

Hey, um, so I'm still still just in awe of your uh just general manhood and exposure to elements and things like that. So down there in Australia, you got the snakes, you got the spiders, you got the sharks. When you're when you're surfing, um, did you ever, have you ever seen a dorsal fin and when you were out back just running around with your motorcycles and pop guns and shit, did you ever see any of the snakes or spiders or things like that?

• 1:00:18Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, yeah. When I first moved to Byron Bay, um, there was a string of shark attacks, two deaths and then one guy survived in the space of two weeks, one out the front of my house and one ten minutes south of me and five minutes north. And I was like, oh, where have I moved to? What have I done? This is crazy. And then so for the next.

• 1:00:41Jason Bateman?

  You're still paddling out?

• 1:00:42Speaker 03

Yeah, when there was other people in the water, so there was your your chances.

• 1:00:48Jason Bateman?

  Your odds, yeah.

• 1:00:49Speaker 03

A little better, your odds were a little better. But um, no, there was a period when there would just be choppers, helicopters going up and down the coastline and just like shark spotting and then they have a siren on because there was for whatever reason just this. Kind of feeding frenzy.

• 1:01:02Jason Bateman?

That's how they do it. So they they fly above and then if they see one, there's a little there's a little siren from the helicopter.

• 1:01:08Speaker 03

Yeah, well, they tell the police and the police should come down with a big speaker and tell you to get out of the water. And and everyone would sit there and go, oh, not getting out of the water, fucking you. And as each guy starts paddling in, it's like, all right, fine, fine, we're going.

• 1:01:18Jason Bateman?

Oh, right, right, right. And these aren't sand sharks. The only kind of shark they've got down there are the big daddies, right?

• 1:01:23Speaker 03

Yeah, they're bull shark, bull sharks and great whites is the most predominant.

• 1:01:28Will Arnett?

  No, thanks.

• 1:01:29Jason Bateman?

What about the snakes? You saw snakes?

• 1:01:31Speaker 03

Heaps of snakes, yeah, yeah, a lot of like kings.

• 1:01:33Will Arnett?

  Heaps of snakes.

• 1:01:35Speaker 03

Heaps of snakes, king brown, like the other brown snakes, which is, you know, you've got kind of 15 minutes if you get the antivenom in you before you.

• 1:01:43Jason Bateman?

Yeah, and the brown spider is also like the most venom.

• 1:01:47Speaker 03

The red, the redback spider is, and then what's the brown spider?

• 1:01:53Will Arnett?

What are you physically pulling your shirt down your neck, saying?

• 1:01:57Jason Bateman?

  I gotta hang up.

• 1:01:59Speaker 03

But the, I mean, we we see a lot of snakes around our house, but also a lot of big pythons. And the pythons are really territorial and keep the bad ones away. And so you kind of, you want those ones around.

• 1:02:11Jason Bateman?

Python, python is not bad? What do you?

• 1:02:13Speaker 03

No, no, no, they're not, they're not venomous, but they're, but they're very territorial with with the brown snakes and the red-bellied black snakes and the ones that are nasty. And so we don't mind having the pythons around.

• 1:02:27Will Arnett?

The the pythons aren't looking to mess you up. They're not looking to attack.

• 1:02:30Speaker 03

No, I mean, you can, my kids will go and grab them by the tail sometimes and.

• 1:02:33Jason Bateman?

No, no way. And how do they, how do they do their killing if they don't have the venom? Do they, they just, they're squeezers?

• 1:02:40Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, squeezers.

• 1:02:41Speaker 03

Yeah, like mice and rats and they'll just have a swallow.

• 1:02:46Sean Hayes?

  Squeezers?

• 1:02:47Speaker 03

  Squeezers.

• 1:02:48Jason Bateman?

And, and wait, go back, wait.

• 1:02:51Speaker 03

Matt Damon, the first time, he was asking me all these questions before they came out to Australia.

• 1:02:56Jason Bateman?

  That he won't even.

• 1:02:58Speaker 03

And he he literally wrote, I was like, ah, you're fine, you're fine, you're fine. The first day, he drives down the street, gets out of a car and steps straight on a snake. I've been there, I've been there 42 years and never stepped on a snake. And and.

• 1:03:11Will Arnett?

  I mean, this guy's a dummy.

• 1:03:12Speaker 03

  He's a dummy.

• 1:03:13Jason Bateman?

What did the angel do? The angel buy himself a pair of boots immediately after that?

• 1:03:19Jason Bateman?

  Right up to the hip.

• 1:03:20Speaker 03

And a helmet, gloves, a pair of white.

• 1:03:24Sean Hayes?

Oh my god. Wait, Chris, go back to the, go back to the water for a second with the sharks. Do you still go in the water?

• 1:03:30Jason Bateman?

  Sure he does.

• 1:03:31Speaker 03

Oh yeah, I surf every day. I mean, people, it's, people still surf. It's, um, again, it's like all the statistics you hear.

• 1:03:39Jason Bateman?

  But getting hit by lightning.

• 1:03:40Speaker 03

Hit by lightning or driving, or driving a car is worse and.

• 1:03:43Sean Hayes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:03:43Speaker 03

I heard one that more people die in America shaking a vending machine trying to get chocolate or whatever, collapsing on them. Now, I don't know.

• 1:03:53Will Arnett?

No, Sean, Sean's got a vending machine story.

• 1:03:56Jason Bateman?

He almost got cut to, cut to ribbons with an exploding glass door there at Chin Chin when they were close too early, right?

• 1:04:02Sean Hayes?

I ate, I ate a lot of junk food, Chris. Um, so, wait a minute.

• 1:04:07Will Arnett?

You know what I love about the Avengers crew? You guys all seem to be having a good time, don't they? Every time I see you guys.

• 1:04:13Sean Hayes?

  Of course.

• 1:04:13Will Arnett?

You and Robert and all the, the whole crew, you guys are all just yucking it up and it kind of, it's, it's kind of fun.

• 1:04:20Speaker 03

It's a good group. It's a good group. And I think, you know, everyone had come into it expecting kind of nothing and it was right at the beginning of, I guess, a sort of superhero emergence and each time one of them worked, it was a win for the others and their individual films. But then when the Avengers worked, we're like, oh, we're gonna make a second one. And a third one, the fourth one. So everyone's kind of pinching themselves that we're still here and it's still working.

• 1:04:44Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, that's pretty cool.

• 1:04:45Speaker 03

And just a good group of people. It's such a fun people.

• 1:04:47Sean Hayes?

You deserve it, pal. You really do.

• 1:04:49Jason Bateman?

  Great films.

• 1:04:50Speaker 03

  Yeah, thank you so much.

• 1:04:52Sean Hayes?

  Chris Hemsworth, what a pleasure.

• 1:04:54Jason Bateman?

Thanks for chatting with us today, mister.

• 1:04:56Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:04:57Will Arnett?

Tell, when is Crime 101, what's the, what's the release date?

• 1:05:00Sean Hayes?

  It's already out.

• 1:05:01Will Arnett?

  It's already out.

• 1:05:02Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:05:03Jason Bateman?

It came out when? When did it come out, Sean?

• 1:05:06Sean Hayes?

It came out, wait, I have it.

• 1:05:07Speaker 03

  February 13th or February 12th?

• 1:05:09Sean Hayes?

  February, yeah, February 13th.

• 1:05:10Will Arnett?

  February 13th.

• 1:05:11Speaker 03

  No, it's, it's a, um, it's a, it's a character-driven crime thriller, you know, and it's a.

• 1:05:19Speaker 03

It has a beautiful sort of suspense, a suspense with through the action, but also through the dramatic scenes and the way Bart's crafted this movie. It's edgier seat, pulse pounding from start to finish.

• 1:05:32Will Arnett?

  Sick cast as well.

• 1:05:33Sean Hayes?

I'll just say one of the greatest, Halle Berry, you, go ahead.

• 1:05:39Speaker 03

Barry Keegan, Mark Ruffalo, Monica Barbaro, Nick Nolte. It's phenomenal cast, but it's sort of a throwback to the heist films of the seventies, eighties, nineties, but has a contemporary feel to it.

• 1:05:51Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:51Speaker 03

  But it.

• 1:05:52Will Arnett?

Really cool. I'm seeing it this.

• 1:05:54Sean Hayes?

But I just have to say, now that I've seen it, and I'm a big fan of the movie, and of course you, that I won't reveal anything, but when that one character gets in the car.

• 1:06:04Will Arnett?

Well, that's kind of a reveal.

• 1:06:05Sean Hayes?

That's all I'll say. I mean, that was really cool. No, I mean, well, you don't know where, you don't know when part of the movie I'm talking about.

• 1:06:11Will Arnett?

When one, that one character gets in the car.

• 1:06:13Sean Hayes?

You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I was like, whoa, that's pretty cool. I was on the edge of my seat. Anyway, Chris, thanks so, so much for being here.

• 1:06:22Speaker 03

  Thanks for having me, guys.

• 1:06:23Jason Bateman?

  Chris, thank you.

• 1:06:24Will Arnett?

  Yeah, thank you, Chris.

• 1:06:25Jason Bateman?

Amanda would say hi if she was here, and maybe I'll make it to the next one.

• 1:06:30Speaker 03

  Please do, mate.

• 1:06:31Jason Bateman?

  I hope.

• 1:06:31Speaker 03

  Thanks, guys.

• 1:06:33Jason Bateman?

  All right, pal.

• 1:06:33Speaker 03

  Good to see you.

• 1:06:35Jason Bateman?

  Bye, buddy.

• 1:06:35Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:06:36Will Arnett?

  Peace.

• 1:06:36Jason Bateman?

  Bye, pal.

• 1:06:37Speaker 03

  Bye-bye.

• 1:06:40Jason Bateman?

  Splendid. Just splendid.

• 1:06:42Will Arnett?

  Really good.

• 1:06:43Jason Bateman?

This is, this is, this is a great guy.

• 1:06:45Will Arnett?

This is, this is, this is a great guy. First of all, great guy.

• 1:06:48Jason Bateman?

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I think he was great.

• 1:06:50Will Arnett?

  Big star.

• 1:06:51Jason Bateman?

He was great. I don't know.

• 1:06:51Will Arnett?

  Big star, big star.

• 1:06:54Sean Hayes?

  Huge star.

• 1:06:55Will Arnett?

Big star, and, and yet so grounded. As you know, you know him a little bit. I, I hung out with him for a couple of days. What a good dude.

• 1:07:02Sean Hayes?

  Humble, kind.

• 1:07:03Will Arnett?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:07:04Sean Hayes?

  Wait, what's 26 minus 11?

• 1:07:07Jason Bateman?

Boy, that's, that's definitely gonna be something.

• 1:07:10Sean Hayes?

  Somewhere around 15.

• 1:07:11Will Arnett?

Honestly, that, that actually came out.

• 1:07:14Sean Hayes?

  15 years. So he's been playing, he's been playing Thor for 15 years. That's a, that's a lot.

• 1:07:20Will Arnett?

I want to go back to the math question because I'm so disturbed.

• 1:07:22Jason Bateman?

Is this worthy of recording, Sean? You know, we're on right now.

• 1:07:25Sean Hayes?

  Always, always.

• 1:07:26Will Arnett?

I'd say, I'd say cut it, but I'd need the world to hear that.

• 1:07:29Jason Bateman?

This is our life, guys, okay?

• 1:07:32Will Arnett?

  Welcome to it.

• 1:07:33Jason Bateman?

Listener, this is, this is, you know, it's free to you, but it costs us a great deal.

• 1:07:37Will Arnett?

  I mean.

• 1:07:37Jason Bateman?

And just, you know, time, patience.

• 1:07:41Will Arnett?

Yeah, he's, he's, yeah, 15 years as Thor. And then doing all this other stuff in between.

• 1:07:49Sean Hayes?

How about, how about I threw you guys at the beginning when I said it was Kirk's dad?

• 1:07:54Jason Bateman?

  Yeah, great job, Sean.

• 1:07:56Will Arnett?

I mean, it's sick. Sick. What a bird.

• 1:07:58Jason Bateman?

I was like, fuck, who is this?

• 1:08:01Will Arnett?

  This guy, he's unbelievable.

• 1:08:03Jason Bateman?

  Breast pump information.

• 1:08:08Sean Hayes?

  Breast pump information, right?

• 1:08:11Jason Bateman?

Uh, no, that is, I'm, uh, I'm, now, I gotta join my wife on some of these, some of these.

• 1:08:18Sean Hayes?

Yeah, by the way, I want to know what all that is. Um, hey, guys, when you have, um, yeah.

• 1:08:24Will Arnett?

Oh, that's it. You're right into it, huh?

• 1:08:26Jason Bateman?

  Yeah. No more wrap up?

• 1:08:28Sean Hayes?

  Nope.

• 1:08:29Will Arnett?

  Sean, you.

• 1:08:30Sean Hayes?

  No, I gotta go.

• 1:08:31Jason Bateman?

Wait, Sean, do you have a performance tonight?

• 1:08:32Sean Hayes?

No, this is our, our one night off.

• 1:08:34Jason Bateman?

  You're dark.

• 1:08:36Will Arnett?

  Oh, good for you, JB.

• 1:08:37Sean Hayes?

  We're dark, yeah, we're dark.

• 1:08:39Jason Bateman?

And then, so what do you, then what do you end up doing tonight? Uh, where does Scotty gets a night out?

• 1:08:43Sean Hayes?

I'm not moving. I'm not moving. I'm so exhausted.

• 1:08:45Jason Bateman?

That's fair to, that's fair to Scotty.

• 1:08:47Sean Hayes?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:49Jason Bateman?

  What about this afternoon?

• 1:08:51Sean Hayes?

  Well, we might.

• 1:08:51Jason Bateman?

  Take him for ice cream.

• 1:08:53Sean Hayes?

Yes, or, no, but I, you know what I've been craving lately is sushi. And now, when you guys eat sushi, do you put, and you know, they come up with a side of ginger and.

• 1:09:01Jason Bateman?

Usually next to it's a little pinch mound of green mustard called. Well, no, I think a better way to say that is, what did the sushi say to the bumblebee?

• 1:09:11Sean Hayes?

What's up, bee? I, bye. What's up, bye?

• 1:09:18Sean Hayes?

  Boy, that was a threat.

• 1:09:19Jason Bateman?

Will is sick. Will is sick.

• 1:09:21Sean Hayes?

He just threw up his hot wing.

• 1:09:23Will Arnett?

This is terrible. That was terrible.

• 1:09:56Jason Bateman?
