• 2:39Lewis Howes?

All right. We've got Grant Cardone in the house. He's back. My man, excited you're here.

• 2:44Grant Cardone?

Dude, come on, man. I love you, man.

• 2:45Lewis Howes?

  Love you too, man.

• 2:46Grant Cardone?

I just have this really strong affinity and connection with you.

• 2:49Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, man.

• 2:49Grant Cardone?

And we're so different. So it's like, but it just feels so good being around you.

• 2:53Lewis Howes?

Yeah, I appreciate it, man. I appreciate it. You're really good at acknowledging people, too.

• 2:56Grant Cardone?

  Oh, thank you.

• 2:57Lewis Howes?

I was watching, we had dinner last night. Well, we had like a little hang last night at your hotel. And I was watching you communicate with the people around you about how you were acknowledging them. And I see that with like Ed Mylett. He's really good at finding like the uniqueness and the gift and the talent that someone has and acknowledging them early in a conversation. And I don't know if that's innate. I think I do that as well. I'm always finding the good of someone and acknowledging it. And I think that's what makes you.

• 3:25Grant Cardone?

Well, you just must have seen me finding some good stuff in people because, you know, when I was having dinner yesterday at Chow's and there was no water on the table. So a nice restaurant. The guy I'm with.

• 3:36Lewis Howes?

  Expensive restaurant, yeah.

• 3:37Grant Cardone?

Yeah. The guy I'm with is a, you know, an important person.

• 3:41Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 3:41Grant Cardone?

And in this town, very important. And there's no water on the table. I'm like, guys, it wasn't my dinner. I didn't call the dinner. They asked me to the dinner. I'm like, you guys can't get water up here? Like, it's embarrassing. Maybe you want me to leave. You want me to leave? Tell me you want me to leave.

• 3:57Lewis Howes?

  Correct.

• 3:57Grant Cardone?

So I acknowledge the good in people, but I also acknowledge, hey, this is, this is not acceptable.

• 4:02Lewis Howes?

Yeah, we were just talking about how you're not likable. Because you say the truth and you say what's on your mind and you're not filtered. And every time, every time I do an interview with you, I have a lot of people that are like super grateful because of what they learn. And you're going to learn a lot here in a second. And then I get a few people that are just like, cannot get over the fact that I'm friends with you. They hate me for it. They unsubscribe, they unfollow. And then they like, will attack me for days or weeks, holding on to something because of something you said or something you do or the energy you have, how you're so honest.

• 4:39Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:39Lewis Howes?

Or how you say certain things that maybe aren't politically correct.

• 4:42Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 4:42Lewis Howes?

And I say to people like, listen, I don't have someone on because I agree with 100% of their life.

• 4:47Grant Cardone?

  Right, right.

• 4:48Lewis Howes?

But there's a lot of things that I agree with or I think that can be helpful for you. And I try to find the best of everyone.

• 4:52Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:53Lewis Howes?

And bring that information. And you have built an incredible empire.

• 4:57Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, thank you.

• 4:58Lewis Howes?

With your name, with Cardone Capital, with everything you do. And the last time you were on, we were just looking it up, was I think June, June of 2017, which felt like it was like a year ago.

• 5:08Grant Cardone?

Dude, less than a year ago, it felt like I was here.

• 5:11Lewis Howes?

So it was almost two years ago. And you told me, I think at the time, that you were doing, trying to do like 90 million or 100.

• 5:18Grant Cardone?

We were doing a deal, I think if I remember it right, I was doing a deal in Houston, Texas. It was 90 million bucks or somewhere about that. And you're like, why so low or something?

• 5:28Lewis Howes?

And you were like, yeah, if we do 100 million this year in deals, like it's gonna be great. And I was like, why not 900 million?

• 5:34Grant Cardone?

And dude, let me tell you, I left here, I mean, you gave me a great gift. So for all the people that hated that interview, or I said something that bothered you. I know Lewis didn't say anything that bothered you, but that meeting I left with. I mean, the one thing I'll pat myself on the back for is like, I get one piece of data from anything. I'll get more out of one piece of data than anybody I know.

• 5:54Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 5:55Grant Cardone?

Just give me one piece, I'm not looking for the whole book. Like when I read a book, if I grab this book, when I open the book, you know, I'm like, okay. I make a decision every time I go read it. What can I find today in this? Not what do I agree with? I used to highlight everything and I realized, dude, all I'm doing is highlighting shit I agree with. And now I go in and say, I'm looking for something I don't know that can improve my life. And so out of that interview, even the interviews I do, what can I get? Like coming over here, I'm wondering what I'm gonna get.

• 6:26Lewis Howes?

  Right, right.

• 6:26Grant Cardone?

Today, what am I gonna get from Lewis? I'm greedy, dude.

• 6:30Lewis Howes?

I know, and that's what I was thinking of last night, I was like, I'm gonna get something out of Grant that's taken from the last interview, which was a hundred million dollar goal to 900 million dollars that year in 2017.

• 6:41Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 6:41Lewis Howes?

So I was like, why don't you get 900 million this year in 2017?

• 6:43Grant Cardone?

We closed for, I think 400 million dollars when the deals last year.

• 6:47Lewis Howes?

  It's amazing.

• 6:48Grant Cardone?

I have. Three hundred million in the hopper right now.

• 6:51Lewis Howes?

  It's amazing.

• 6:52Grant Cardone?

A guy just called me on the way over here. He's like, okay, you're at eighty eight. There was three guys in the deal. One dropped out. Do you have any room? And it's a freaking brand new deal, unbelievable, beautiful. I think I'll be stealing. It'll be a little, little painful for six months or so, but these are the, the deal size, the deal size, dude, changed so much because of that.

• 7:12Lewis Howes?

Cause you were, you were thinking like, yeah, if I can get ninety million this year or whatever it was.

• 7:16Grant Cardone?

I was thinking about like three thirty million dollars.

• 7:18Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 7:18Grant Cardone?

And I know everybody's thinking, oh, my God, that's so big. Cause I, I remember when my first deal was seventy eight thousand dollars. I did not know how to come up.

• 7:27Lewis Howes?

  In real estate.

• 7:28Grant Cardone?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't know how to come up with the down payment. I remember doing seminars when I was twenty nine years old and I wouldn't, I wouldn't rent a lavavator mic because it's eighty bucks.

• 7:38Lewis Howes?

You would just scream or get out?

• 7:39Grant Cardone?

I would talk to three hundred people for eight hours. There was no microphone.

• 7:45Grant Cardone?

I didn't rent the, the handheld and I didn't rent this one because it was eighty bucks and I was scared of the eighty bucks. I didn't have any money, dude. So anytime I come, like, oh, I'll save eighty bucks. That'll be two days. That's a hundred and sixty dollars. I'm gonna do fifty of these this year. That's nine thousand dollars. And, and you can hear my voice today, like my twin brother's voice and my voice. Mine is definitely like.

• 8:05Lewis Howes?

  Brachial.

• 8:06Grant Cardone?

Yeah, definitely. And, and I actually have some physical problems because I was having to freaking use too much effort.

• 8:12Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 8:13Grant Cardone?

Yeah. I was twenty nine years old, man. I wouldn't spend the money. I was terrified.

• 8:17Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 8:18Grant Cardone?

  So.

• 8:18Lewis Howes?

Do you spend the money now?

• 8:19Grant Cardone?

Oh, yeah, yeah. Now, now we spend, now, now, I'm, and now the stupidity is kind of like, okay, what was I thinking?

• 8:25Lewis Howes?

Yeah, invest in your health, longevity, things like that, yes.

• 8:28Grant Cardone?

I don't have an eighty, nobody's got an eighty dollar problem. They got eighty million dollar problem.

• 8:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 8:33Grant Cardone?

And that's how I approach everything now.

• 8:34Lewis Howes?

So you went from a year and a half ago, two years ago, thinking uh, these deal sizes were so big at the time, but now these are like.

• 8:42Grant Cardone?

  Enormous.

• 8:42Lewis Howes?

These were like, oh, we did this every week type of thing.

• 8:45Grant Cardone?

Like now we're doing, I'm doing three deals that are three hundred million.

• 8:48Lewis Howes?

Yeah. When it was thirty million, you were like, if we can get three thirty million deals for.

• 8:52Grant Cardone?

  Right, right.

• 8:52Lewis Howes?

All year, it would be huge.

• 8:54Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 8:55Lewis Howes?

And now it's three hundred million.

• 8:57Grant Cardone?

Since I left here, let me see, how many months is that?

• 9:01Lewis Howes?

Probably like twenty months, something like that.

• 9:03Grant Cardone?

We raised two hundred million using Facebook and Instagram.

• 9:08Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 9:09Grant Cardone?

Without spending a penny on ads.

• 9:12Grant Cardone?

Two hundred million dollars from accredited and non-accredited. So, everything changed after I left here. We didn't have the funds. I wasn't raising money. We started looking at how can we grow faster? I mean, literally, dude, I walked out of here just asking myself this question over and over. It's a good question if you can ask good questions, right? Like, hey, what could I do to grow faster? And I kept going home, what could I do to grow faster, you know? Without wrecking a car? You know, without damaging something, without taking risk unnecessarily? What can I do to grow faster and not violate my formula that's never let me down?

• 9:44Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 9:44Grant Cardone?

And then I'm like, oh, wow, we could raise money. Me and Ryan were talking, we could raise money, you know? My wife's involved in those conversations. We can raise money. We can raise money from accredited. So, first thing we did was create a fund for accredited investors that make two hundred grand a year. And then I'm like, you know, I need to do this for the other people, the little people, the Liz's and the Larry's and people that don't have a million dollars yet. Because people were starting to hit me on social media and said...

• 10:10Lewis Howes?

How do I get in? Yeah.

• 10:11Grant Cardone?

Yeah, you can't just help wealthy people. And they're right, because my family was not wealthy. And then one day I looked at, okay, my brother can invest it with me, but two of my sisters can't. None of my cousins can, none of my nephews can, none of my nieces can. My mother couldn't invest with me.

• 10:26Lewis Howes?

So, I can't help any of my family members?

• 10:28Grant Cardone?

Like, what am I doing? This is a contradiction to who I am. So, we spent the money to create a fund for everybody.

• 10:33Lewis Howes?

  Wow, great.

• 10:34Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 10:35Lewis Howes?

And so, you guys did that. What changed in your mind? Because you were doing big deals already, you know? In the last, you were making millions, you had a thriving business, you had tons of employees. Like, things were growing already in 2015 to 2017.

• 10:48Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 10:48Lewis Howes?

Speaking on stages with huge, you know, huge audiences. What's switched in your mind to go from thirty million to three hundred million dollar deals? And what do you think is needed for someone making thirty thousand to go to a hundred thousand? Or a hundred thousand to a million? So, what's the switch?

• 11:07Grant Cardone?

The switch is if you try to go from thirty, I'll just talk about myself, right? Like, when I was trying to go from thirty, and I remember when I was making thirty grand, when I tried to go from thirty to a hundred, I just ended up with all the same problems. You know, it's like, okay, I'm making thirty, let's say I'm making pies. I'm making pies and I'm making thirty pies. It's the same thing, by the way.

• 11:28Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 11:29Grant Cardone?

Same restrictions, a physical universe, I don't have enough time, I don't have enough dough, I don't have enough ovens.

• 11:35Grant Cardone?

So the guy's like, I'm gonna go from thirty to a hundred. Well, you can't do that in the space you're in. So you need a bigger space. But you don't have the money for a bigger space. So the the trick is to create a plan around going from thirty to three hundred. Not a hundred, because the people are trying to edge into them. I'm gonna go from thirty to forty, forty to fifty, fifty to sixty. But what they should do is put a plan to go from thirty to three hundred. Because immediately you'll be like, I can't do it in my kitchen anymore. Right. I need more ovens. I need more money. I need help. Immediately it unlocks you from this budget. This this mentality that trapped me so long from worrying about eighty dollars for a labalier money.

• 12:14Grant Cardone?

Literally, dude, like, I was so terrified. I damaged my throat and my and and my lower intestines. Okay, because I didn't understand, dude, eighty dollars in your problem. Yeah. I was that scared all the time. Like, a lot of people see me as a super confident guy, but I've just been scared. What are you scared of the most? Dude, I'm scared. I was scared of like, okay, I got something. Now I don't know what to do with it. I I figured out how to get it. I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't know. I didn't know where it should go. So. What did you get? You mean, you got the money you wanted? I got the money or I got some recognition. The audience. Or I got. I finally got a little audience. Or I got one industry to know me. And you didn't know what to do with it? How do I keep it? Yeah. How do you keep it?

• 12:59Grant Cardone?

I don't think you keep it. I think you need to multiply it. Oh, how do you multiply it? You you multiply it by being taking the risk to go to other industries. Yeah, because you started in car, you know, sell, teaching sales of cars. Well, everything I before that I started stuff that I just lost that, right? Like, so. And again, I wasn't thinking big enough. When I was in McDonald's and I got fired from McDonald's. Flipping burgers or chewing fries or what were you doing? Whatever they had me do. They had me. They had me do what, you know, they're, this is what we do, right? It's a road. It's a factory. I was sixteen years old and my dad had been dead six years. So like, I'm uncertain. I'm fifteen, sixty. I've just had sex for the first time. Everything is so complicated. Making five bucks an hour at that point, whatever it was. No, it was probably like two eighty.

• 13:44Grant Cardone?

Wow. Yeah, but that wasn't the deal. That wasn't the problem. I was grateful for the two eighty. But I was awkward. I was not confident. I didn't know how to talk to people. I hated the job. But if if somebody would said, dude, go learn this game so you can own fifty McDonald's restaurants. Like, if I would have had that that idea, I'll bet you I would own a bunch of McDonald's franchises today. But I went there just for the two eighty.

• 14:11Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 14:12Grant Cardone?

Not not for, hey, I want to do something. I I think I truly think that the the thing that I've suffered from the most in my life, as I look at Kobe and, you know, all these pictures of these great people, you know, dude, I just thought too small. I was worried about the eighty bucks. And I was worried about what the car dealers thought about me, that audience.

• 14:31Lewis Howes?

When did you start to think bigger? And how did that make you feel when you started to see like a bigger vision for your life?

• 14:39Grant Cardone?

I see these other guys. I see these other people doing things.

• 14:44Lewis Howes?

A model, you see a model of someone doing?

• 14:46Grant Cardone?

Mike Tyson, I was with Mike the other day, right? And, you know, when you when you when you watch the old tapes of Mike knocking somebody out, I don't care if you're like boxing or not. You watch, like, him in his prime at nineteen years old.

• 14:59Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, he was a machine.

• 15:00Grant Cardone?

People would be like, whoa. You know, the one on catch, you know, the great catch, like, like, the greatness is always pulled at my freaking inside so hard. Like, like, literally, I'll cry at somebody doing something great because I know it's like, dude, that's you. I can't catch a ball and I can't knock anybody out, but I know there's something in me that that is destined to do something.

• 15:26Lewis Howes?

How do you know that something is in you?

• 15:29Grant Cardone?

Because I can hear it, dude. I can feel it. I see it, recognize it. It recognizes, it notices in other people. So how could I see that in, you know, Kobe?

• 15:41Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 15:42Grant Cardone?

Or Michael or the singer that nobody knows about. This is not about celebrity because I'm not a starstruck guy. I am struck by moments, the comedian. Watching the comedian, his timing's just like perfect, dude. He he he's got the deal down. Like, like, I get so moved. How could I recognize that if it's not in me? The same thing for like criticism of other people, like when I see something I don't like in somebody. I know immediately, there's no way for me to see that in him. If I'm not, that's not in me. Yeah. The water on the table last night, like not being there. I'm like, how many times have I ignored somebody and not serviced them properly? Right. You know? In your own business, yeah.

• 16:25Grant Cardone?

In business, or maybe somebody right now that I'm ignoring, I'm not paying enough attention to, or...

• 16:33Grant Cardone?

So, you know, that, that, that's been the thing, dude, just that, fucking, I wanna be great, man. Yeah. And, you know, and I know, I know there's people that are like, oh, that's because he doesn't love himself. You know, that, that's the go-to thing. Me and Tyson were talking about this. You don't love yourself, why? Well, why, why do I need to be great? Oh. That, that's the, the, the, uh, the go-to formula is, well, dude, you don't need to be great. You should just love yourself the way you are. Hmm. This is what Tyson was saying yesterday, the ego, Grant, the ego, you know, the ego. I said, dude, the ego saved my life. How so? All this other stuff, undoing, you know, trying to, trying not to be great, like, hurt me a lot.

• 17:17Grant Cardone?

Trying not to do big things was damaging to me. How was it damaging? Because, dude, it put me in conflict. You mean like playing smaller, being like? Yeah, man, like, how can you? I showed up in that big truck, right? Mm-hmm. It's noisy, man. You could punch a button, it gets noisier, and that's what it was built for. It, it wa- it wasn't built to, to not be loud. Mm-hmm. And I don't think I was built to be loud, or, or to, to, to be small. I, I was built, I, I, I don't think I was built to be quiet, like, like they tell you when you're growing up, you know, be quiet, be seen, not heard, whatever the deal is, you know, don't toot your own horn, and don't get too much attention, and don't promote yourself, and...

• 18:02Grant Cardone?

But look, man, God was a show-off, man.

• 18:04Lewis Howes?

  Look what he created.

• 18:06Grant Cardone?

  It's not quiet. No.

• 18:09Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 18:09Grant Cardone?

Okay, rainbows, you know, suns, planets, like.

• 18:12Lewis Howes?

  Waterfalls, everything.

• 18:13Grant Cardone?

Yeah, crazy, man. Like, like when we walk around nature and we look at all the, when I see this, whatever this is growing on your wall, that fungus.

• 18:20Lewis Howes?

That's fake, but yeah. It looks good, looks real.

• 18:23Grant Cardone?

It looks real, dude. You gotta get a shot of that, you know, I'm like, wow, man, that's living.

• 18:27Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 18:27Grant Cardone?

Right? At least in my imagination.

• 18:29Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, of course.

• 18:30Grant Cardone?

  So.

• 18:31Lewis Howes?

I think we love people that are grateful and have humility, but we also love to see people do great things.

• 18:38Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 18:39Lewis Howes?

Is there a balance that they should have, like, also be grateful and humble as opposed to kind of like the McGregor, uh?

• 18:46Grant Cardone?

  Dude, I love McGregor.

• 18:47Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 18:48Grant Cardone?

  See, I like that.

• 18:49Lewis Howes?

That's your, that's your energy. You like, you're on that frequency.

• 18:52Grant Cardone?

Who doesn't like it? Dude, look at how big the audience is.

• 18:55Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 18:56Grant Cardone?

You know, look at The Rock. He doesn't have little muscles.

• 18:58Lewis Howes?

Right. But he's, he's got more humility, let's say, if you're.

• 19:01Grant Cardone?

Oh, he, he knows how to, he knows how to play that game. Oh, my God. I mean, there's nobody better than The Rock at that. Obama was unbelievable at that.

• 19:09Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 19:10Grant Cardone?

At, at staying connected. That's what I'm terrible at. I'm fucking awful at it. I am so bad at it.

• 19:16Lewis Howes?

  Why?

• 19:17Grant Cardone?

  I don't know why. I, I don't know why. I, I just know I'm bad at it.

• 19:22Lewis Howes?

It doesn't seem like it's affected your business success.

• 19:25Grant Cardone?

  Oh, I'm sure it has.

• 19:26Lewis Howes?

  You think so?

• 19:29Grant Cardone?

I'm sure it has, you know? I mean, it has.

• 19:31Lewis Howes?

  Losing certain deals.

• 19:32Grant Cardone?

If it slows people down from liking me, like if people, like my wife tells me, Elena tells me this all the time, like, she's like, the reason women don't like you, Grant, is because you sound like you don't filter anything.

• 19:48Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 19:49Grant Cardone?

And you sound like, she, and she's like, she knows the favorite people in my life are women. My mother, like my mother, I would have done anything for her.

• 19:56Lewis Howes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 19:57Grant Cardone?

And she was my best friend.

• 19:58Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 19:58Grant Cardone?

And I depended on her. And later, I was with my mother when she died. Like, I was the one she trusted more than, I hope my family doesn't see this, but my mother trusted me, did not trust me the most when I was growing up. And when she was dying, knew that no matter what, I would be there for her.

• 20:17Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 20:17Grant Cardone?

Like, and I would tell her the truth, always tell her the truth. I'm the one that, when my mom, I got a call after Sabrina. We had just had our first kid, right up the block here. And then my sister Diane calls and says, you need to get here now that Sabrina's born. And so I got on a plane, flew to, this is nine years ago, flew to, flew to Lake Charles. And I walked in, my mom's in hospital, and I'm like, have they told you what's going on? No, what do you mean, Grant? I said, has anybody told you what's happening now? And she's like, no. I said, well, what do you think's happening? And I was the first one that had the conversation and had her, got her to say, well, I'm gonna die. And I'm like, that's right. That's what's happening now.

• 20:59Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 21:00Grant Cardone?

And it, dude, it was, it was the hardest conversation I ever had with anybody in my life. And it was like, okay, dude, you're gonna die. This is what's happening now. And my sisters didn't have the conversation with her. My brother didn't have the conversation with her. And I said, okay, that's what's happening. We got, I don't know, 12 hours, 18 hours, 20 hours.

• 21:18Lewis Howes?

  That's it, huh?

• 21:20Grant Cardone?

Yeah, and I'm trying to take time out of this thing. Like, I don't want it dragging on. Cause I know she doesn't want it to drag on. She's always told me, she's like, hey, look, when, when we get to this place, don't let this thing drag out. I wouldn't want it to drag out.

• 21:33Lewis Howes?

Right, was she in pain, or was it?

• 21:35Grant Cardone?

No, not really. And I said, look, how do you wanna die? Cause you're gonna die. That's what's happening. She, I know, god damn it, Grant, I know. I'm like, good, you know? She's like, I know, I know. And, and then she, boom, she got it now. Now, now it sunk in. Nobody was playing the denial game anymore. I'm [bleep] and just like, this is my best friend, dude. And so I'm like, how do you wanna die? What do you mean? So, so I said, you wanna stay here? You wanna, you [bleep] no. Cause she was that kinda woman, right? She's like, I don't wanna stay in this hospital. Good, where do you wanna go? I wanna be in my house. All right, good. Do you want me to get a car to pick you up? You wanna, you wanna drive home? You want me to drive you? No, just get me in my car and drive me home.

• 22:19Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:19Grant Cardone?

And then when we got to the house, I just walked her through all the pieces. Where do you wanna be? Let me, let me sit, let me sit in the little room. Dude, it was [bleep] and so hard.

• 22:26Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:27Grant Cardone?

Like even today, right now, saying it.

• 22:29Lewis Howes?

Was her body just falling apart, or was her organs or?

• 22:32Grant Cardone?

The internal was just, yeah, it was cancer.

• 22:34Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 22:35Grant Cardone?

And so the internal, the organs are shutting down now. And within 10 hours, let me see, from the time I had the conversation with her, the next morning.

• 22:46Grant Cardone?

Got her in the Honda, drove her home, put her in the living room for, you know, a couple of hours. Let her sit in her ice boy. I said, okay, where do you want to finish this? She's like, in my bed. Took her to the bedroom and uh,

• 23:05Grant Cardone?

you know, just about 11 o'clock tonight, finally.

• 23:10Grant Cardone?

  And she said,

• 23:14Grant Cardone?

about 30 minutes before she finished, she's like,

• 23:20Grant Cardone?

  she's like, I'm scared.

• 23:21Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 23:22Grant Cardone?

And I said, what are you scared of? You know, you got to hold it together, right? Because, and she says, I'm scared I can't die.

• 23:32Grant Cardone?

She wasn't scared of dying. She was scared she couldn't. I said, dude, you can do this. You know, you've done everything you needed to do. You did a great job. You don't owe anybody anything. Just rock on, man.

• 23:47Lewis Howes?

Wow. She was afraid that she couldn't die, like she would drag on or?

• 23:52Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 23:54Lewis Howes?

And just kind of be on pain?

• 23:54Grant Cardone?

  She wasn't scared of dying.

• 23:56Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 23:56Grant Cardone?

  She was scared she couldn't.

• 23:58Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 23:59Grant Cardone?

  So uh,

• 24:01Lewis Howes?

You were there? Was your whole family there?

• 24:04Grant Cardone?

I was right there with her, had my hand on her. No doctors in the room.

• 24:08Lewis Howes?

  While she passed?

• 24:09Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 24:10Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 24:10Grant Cardone?

So she was my bud, man.

• 24:14Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 24:15Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, goddamn.

• 24:17Lewis Howes?

  What was uh?

• 24:18Grant Cardone?

  I don't know.

• 24:20Lewis Howes?

What was the greatest lesson she taught you?

• 24:22Grant Cardone?

Oh shit, man. She was just, she was a very negative person. Like, I have a lot of that. Like, the psycho, run psycho said, he says, oh Grant, you're a positive person. I said, dude, I am not a positive person. Like, do not, no one should

• 24:43Grant Cardone?

confuse me with a motivational person. Cause I'm not, I'm not a positive person.

• 24:48Lewis Howes?

  Why aren't you?

• 24:49Grant Cardone?

Because, because I, I understand that people die.

• 24:55Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 24:56Grant Cardone?

Like, I understand that life is hard and that there's evil. I know there's evil. I, I confront. Like, that's what people don't like about me, dude, like.

• 25:09Grant Cardone?

Who says, okay, you're gonna die? It's hard, man.

• 25:14Lewis Howes?

It's really hard to be that honest.

• 25:15Grant Cardone?

Dude, my dad died when I was 10, my older brother died when I was 20. So by the time I was 20, I'm like, oh, people die.

• 25:20Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 25:21Grant Cardone?

Like, you start getting used to it.

• 25:23Lewis Howes?

Not just your grandparents or something?

• 25:25Grant Cardone?

No, no, I, see, I know, I know. There's people I know today that have never had a death in their family. They've never experienced it.

• 25:33Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 25:33Grant Cardone?

And then they're shocked when their dad dies. I'm like, what? What'd you think was gonna happen? Or their dog dies. I'm like, guys, you got a dog. It's a Great Dane. It's got a life of 11 years.

• 25:42Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 25:43Grant Cardone?

Hopefully, it dies before you do. My kids already know, like, my, my seven and nine year old, they're, they already confront the issue of me as a body not being around one day.

• 25:53Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 25:55Grant Cardone?

So my mom taught me a lot, man. She taught me, you know, she taught, tried to talk me out of most everything I ever did. Cause she was negative. She, she, she was a mother. And it's a mother.

• 26:06Lewis Howes?

  She wanted to protect you.

• 26:07Grant Cardone?

  A mother's 50% negative.

• 26:10Grant Cardone?

  Has to be.

• 26:11Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 26:12Grant Cardone?

You know, you're gonna get a cold. Put your shoes on. Don't go out in the rain. So I had to learn how not to listen to that 50%.

• 26:22Lewis Howes?

Wow. Was there anything that she taught you in the end? Or any regrets? From what you had done, or what you hadn't done, or a promise you made to yourself after she passed, where you're like, you know what? I haven't been doing what I really need to be doing here, here, here. Is there anything like that for you?

• 26:40Grant Cardone?

Hmm, you know, my, not, not, not, not with her, you know? I mean, I told her when I was a kid, when I got clean from drugs. I said, one day I'm gonna buy you a Jaguar. I never bought it for her. She, she called me one day, she was a funny lady. She said, she, she, some football player had bought, had bought their mom a house. And I was wealthy at the time. But, you know, I was living in La Jolla down the south here and I'd, you know, I'd done well and I was still single. And she's like, so and so bought her mom a house. You know?

• 27:10Lewis Howes?

  Where's my car?

• 27:10Grant Cardone?

I'm like, he'll end up broke too.

• 27:13Grant Cardone?

  You ain't getting a house.

• 27:14Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 27:15Grant Cardone?

She didn't want a house. I mean, she, she didn't want any of that stuff.

• 27:17Lewis Howes?

  Yeah. What did she want?

• 27:20Grant Cardone?

She didn't have a lot of dreams. I, I, I don't think. She lived way below her potential.

• 27:26Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 27:27Grant Cardone?

And that's why I understand women. You know, my mom was a, um, she, she was a 50s housewife.

• 27:33Lewis Howes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:34Grant Cardone?

And my mother lived for her children.

• 27:36Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 27:37Grant Cardone?

And so part of this, I think, is part of my hardness and the way I prioritize things. I know my mother made a mistake putting her kids first.

• 27:48Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 27:50Grant Cardone?

That was a mistake for her.

• 27:51Lewis Howes?

Wow. What should she have done?

• 27:53Grant Cardone?

She should have put herself first. Not us first.

• 27:56Lewis Howes?

  Why?

• 27:57Grant Cardone?

Because she, she, she, she was more worried about five people, five little kids than her own dreams. And, and I just, when I watched my dad, I left her to run everything. He died suddenly and she never dated again.

• 28:14Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 28:15Grant Cardone?

She was 40, uh, let's see, I was, I guess she was 38. Never went on a date.

• 28:21Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 28:22Grant Cardone?

She had a stepfather and she's like, or stepmother and she's like, I'm not, I'm not giving my kids a stepmother. Everything now was about the kids. It's not enough for a human being, dude. You can't be happy just living for kids that are gonna move out.

• 28:37Grant Cardone?

  You know, so.

• 28:37Lewis Howes?

What advice would you have to women about following their dreams?

• 28:40Grant Cardone?

Do you, you, you, you, people, all people, men and women, they should be more greedy about their personal dreams.

• 28:48Lewis Howes?

Well, what if, what if they say, well, I've got these five kids and I've got this responsibility and.

• 28:51Grant Cardone?

Yeah, you do, but you also have responsibility yourself.

• 28:54Lewis Howes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 28:54Grant Cardone?

If I can't take care of me, how can I take care of somebody else? And this has always been my battle cry, like, I have to take care of me. And I, how can I help anyone? I'm [bleep] broken. I'm messed up, you know? I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm coming out of a treatment center for drug addiction. I didn't need to help anybody else. I needed to get, I needed to get on solid ground. You know, and I needed to make sure I wasn't going back to treatment. And then I needed to clean up the mess that I made. I needed to do this for me because. And that has been my contention now for many years, like just keep slowly taking care of your neighborhood until you're in another zip code.

• 29:34Lewis Howes?

Yeah, wow. Is there anywhere in your life right now that is still broken or still a mess that you need to take care of first?

• 29:42Grant Cardone?

I let them go. I'm like, okay, I was having this conversation with Jamie yesterday. And I said, but dude, I don't do that because he's got this person. He's like, oh, she's got so much potential. And I'm like, yeah, I don't do that deal. I don't handle people with potential. I handle people that want to change.

• 29:57Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 29:58Grant Cardone?

So I would rather somebody that wants to say, hey, what do I do? I'll do it. Then somebody's got a bunch of potential and won't do it.

• 30:06Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 30:06Grant Cardone?

  What you tell them.

• 30:07Lewis Howes?

But your own, your own personal life, do you feel like there's anything that's broken inside of you still that you need to work on every day?

• 30:14Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 30:14Lewis Howes?

Or do you feel like you've kind of?

• 30:15Grant Cardone?

I'm not, I'm not working on the broken stuff of me, you know, but because I have, thankfully, I've repaired a lot of stuff and I'm not dealing with, I mean, I got a lot of help along the way. So.

• 30:27Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 30:29Grant Cardone?

Some of the, all that broken stuff and the doubt and the, and the not sureness, even though there's still, me playing small is all doubts, right? You know?

• 30:41Lewis Howes?

What do you doubt right now?

• 30:42Grant Cardone?

Well, I'm just saying like, since the last time I left, I'm like, okay, we're going to build a billion dollar business. We're at a billion two now.

• 30:47Lewis Howes?

  Now you're like, all right.

• 30:48Grant Cardone?

  I'm like, I'm going to 10.

• 30:48Lewis Howes?

Why are you at 10? And why are you at 10?

• 30:50Grant Cardone?

Now, now I'm starting to question, god damn, maybe I just go to 20. Like, like, because now all of a sudden.

• 30:57Lewis Howes?

  Or 30.

• 30:57Grant Cardone?

Or 30 maybe. Because now the game gets so big that I can truly make a difference. We're talking about hospital difference, countries, like you can make a difference. You, when you start, you start hanging out with billions of dollars of control. You can make.

• 31:14Lewis Howes?

You can have poverty in a location.

• 31:15Grant Cardone?

You can, you can make, and you can start influencing the people that have the resources to do the influencing.

• 31:22Lewis Howes?

So what's the mindset that's going to take you from 1.2 billion now to 10 billion by the end of this year and then 30 billion by the end of next year?

• 31:30Grant Cardone?

That's not physically, I can't move that fast, right? That would be, that would be, there, there does need to be.

• 31:37Lewis Howes?

  In increments?

• 31:38Grant Cardone?

Yeah, there does. Because, because, well, because.

• 31:41Lewis Howes?

  It's playing small to me.

• 31:43Grant Cardone?

Because there has to be foundations, right? There has to be.

• 31:46Lewis Howes?

Can't just leapfrog that far. Without doing the work, without laying the groundwork.

• 31:50Grant Cardone?

Yeah, and I'm in a physical universe, right? I could do it if I didn't have a body.

• 31:54Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 31:55Grant Cardone?

The body, other people's bodies, their thoughts, their ideas. I'm dealing with a lot of other people. They have times and they go home, you know, at six o'clock.

• 32:04Lewis Howes?

Think about it forever, yeah, yeah.

• 32:05Grant Cardone?

Or, you know, I'm dealing with other institutions that go a lot slower. Cause they're getting conservative now, they don't want to lose.

• 32:13Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 32:16Grant Cardone?

You know, so time, time unfortunately is.

• 32:19Lewis Howes?

So from one to 10, what's the goal? 10 billion by the end of what?

• 32:22Grant Cardone?

So, so we, I think what's real. I think what's real.

• 32:26Lewis Howes?

  Not what's real.

• 32:26Grant Cardone?

Is I could be at 2 billion in 2020, for sure. I can open January 2020.

• 32:31Lewis Howes?

That just sounds small. That just sounds like, you're already at 1.2. It just sounds tiny compared to what Grant Cardone is capable of.

• 32:39Grant Cardone?

No, these are, these are enormous, dude.

• 32:41Lewis Howes?

This sounds tiny though, it's just in the mind.

• 32:43Grant Cardone?

$2 million sounds, it sounds tiny?

• 32:45Lewis Howes?

At this level for you, it does sound tiny.

• 32:47Grant Cardone?

I drove a Camry till I was 35 years old.

• 32:49Lewis Howes?

Yeah, but you're 61 and you've been leapfrogging for years now.

• 32:53Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 32:54Lewis Howes?

It seems like, it just seems small.

• 32:57Grant Cardone?

  Wow.

• 32:59Lewis Howes?

I mean, not small, it's huge for me, but where you're at.

• 33:01Grant Cardone?

I think we could be at 10 billion in five years, though.

• 33:04Lewis Howes?

When I think of Grant Cardone and I think of the.

• 33:06Grant Cardone?

But you understand how much money you're talking about now? You're talking about Blackstone. Blackstone has 12 billion dollars of assets.

• 33:12Lewis Howes?

People have money, you just need to get people to open their wallet and say, here it is. You just need to find the people with the money.

• 33:18Grant Cardone?

I need a bigger team. No, no, I don't need to find, they're already there.

• 33:21Lewis Howes?

You know the people that have money?

• 33:23Grant Cardone?

The world, the whole world has money.

• 33:24Lewis Howes?

Okay, so you just need a bigger team.

• 33:26Grant Cardone?

So I need a bigger team.

• 33:27Lewis Howes?

How big of a team do you need?

• 33:28Grant Cardone?

My team probably needs to be 100 plus.

• 33:31Lewis Howes?

What do you have, like 50 right now or 30?

• 33:32Grant Cardone?

Well, we got, it depends on what, but if you're just talking about the real estate, right? But dude, I got 13 other deals that I'm running, so.

• 33:39Lewis Howes?

This just sounds small to me.

• 33:40Grant Cardone?

  Thank you, man.

• 33:41Lewis Howes?

But you know what I mean?

• 33:41Grant Cardone?

  Thank you so much.

• 33:42Lewis Howes?

  It does.

• 33:43Grant Cardone?

  Thank you.

• 33:43Lewis Howes?

You, you're Grant Cardone. You're not someone who says, oh, I think I could get to 10 billion by 2024. It's like.

• 33:51Grant Cardone?

Yeah. You know? Well, maybe if I quit doing podcasts.

• 33:56Lewis Howes?

So you did a bigger team, so you need to hire, it takes time, it takes, yeah.

• 33:59Grant Cardone?

  You know, like, like.

• 34:01Lewis Howes?

I love how he gets fidgety in the seat, he's like.

• 34:03Grant Cardone?

Well, no, I'm like, I'm like, you know, you know, it's like Mike Tyson, I was with Tyson. He's like, well, so what do you, what do you want to do, you know, in, in his voice, hey, what do you want to do? And I'm like, I want to meet seven million, seven billion people. And immediately, we should get you some of this tape, it's freaking fascinating. He's like, how many have you met so far? I'm like, not enough, man, but you're going to help me, Mike.

• 34:28Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 34:28Grant Cardone?

You know, because he knows a lot of people.

• 34:29Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 34:30Grant Cardone?

And a lot of people know him.

• 34:31Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 34:33Grant Cardone?

You know, part of it is just getting the word out too, like, nobody knows I exist.

• 34:38Lewis Howes?

Small amount of people is what you're saying, yeah.

• 34:40Grant Cardone?

  So tiny, dude.

• 34:41Lewis Howes?

  Millions, not billions.

• 34:43Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 34:43Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 34:43Grant Cardone?

Nobody knows me. And even the people that know me don't, they're not thinking about me right now.

• 34:47Lewis Howes?

So how do you get, become more known in the last, next year or two years?

• 34:51Grant Cardone?

You know, do, do, you know, doing things like what I'm doing right now. You know, getting, getting on, on your podcast, getting known, getting, collaborating, working with other people like you have on this wall that, that are influencers and, and that want to work together.

• 35:06Lewis Howes?

Yeah. I'm curious, what do you think your superpower is? You're one of the best in the world at.

• 35:11Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 35:12Lewis Howes?

And what, and how does someone find out what their superpower is if they're like, I have no clue?

• 35:19Grant Cardone?

I think your superpower is like, my, my, my superpower is probably, what do you think mine is? I'm going to write mine down, what I, what I think it is, okay? But, but I want to hear what you think mine is. And I'd love to hear what, what the people think mine, everybody's got one, but at least one, maybe many.

• 35:37Grant Cardone?

  I know I have one.

I'm trying to think of what you would write down. I think what you would write down is your belief system is your superpower. It's like the way you think, your mindset, this like 10x mindset, this belief system of what's possible. That's what I think you would write down. When I, what I'm, what I was thinking before that was your ability to enroll people in your vision.

• 35:58Grant Cardone?

  Oh, wow. Well.

• 35:59Lewis Howes?

Like your ability to just be relentless about your vision and speak it into the world. One to one, one to many and say, buy into this, buy into me, buy into my books, buy into my events, buy into my card on capital, buy into the vision.

• 36:15Grant Cardone?

Yeah, it's interesting. Interesting you said that.

• 36:17Lewis Howes?

So those two things. It's one, the internal belief system of like, okay, what could I do to 10x? And not allowing the fear to keep you playing small, except for, I feel like you might be a little right now. It's supposed to be 10 billion, but what did you, what did you write down?

• 36:30Grant Cardone?

  I wrote.

• 36:31Lewis Howes?

  Was I close?

• 36:32Grant Cardone?

  I wrote persistence.

• 36:33Lewis Howes?

  Persistence, yeah. So the relentless.

• 36:35Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I mean, dude, once, once I decide I'm gonna do something, it's like, the chances of me letting go of something that's important to me, a friend, like, I am either the best or worst friend a person has.

• 36:49Lewis Howes?

  Why?

• 36:50Grant Cardone?

Because if you and I are in a club and something goes down, I will be there, swinging it out. Okay, I have no chance of winning the fight. I can only be a distraction to the thing.

• 37:00Lewis Howes?

  Throw a bottle.

• 37:01Grant Cardone?

But you're not gonna see me just run.

• 37:02Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 37:03Grant Cardone?

Right? So, so, and I'm not gonna run from my dreams. Like, I'm not gonna run from my kids. I'm not gonna run from Elena. I'm not gonna, there's nothing Elena could do to cause me to like, run away from her.

• 37:14Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 37:14Grant Cardone?

  No.

• 37:15Lewis Howes?

If she treats you horrible every day, screams at you, tries to pull you back from your dreams, threatens to take your kids from you.

• 37:22Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 37:22Lewis Howes?

Threatens to ruin you in some way.

• 37:25Grant Cardone?

I mean, none of that will happen, right? But, but, but.

• 37:27Lewis Howes?

  Something else you're saying, yeah.

• 37:28Grant Cardone?

But she, she could cheat on me. I, I don't think that that would cause me to run away. I'd have to figure out.

• 37:34Lewis Howes?

  Cause it'd be your fault?

• 37:35Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, totally.

• 37:36Lewis Howes?

I remember you saying that before. Why would it be your fault if your wife cheats on you?

• 37:41Grant Cardone?

Well, because what would allow her to get interested in something else? I wasn't paying attention to her. There's something was out. I had to know it. Nobody's ever betrayed me that I didn't, that, that I didn't know beforehand they were gonna betray me. There's always a sign. It's not intuition either. People are like, oh, I knew, you know, I, I had this feeling. It's not intuition. You saw something happen. There was something you saw happen. There was some minute little movement.

• 38:07Lewis Howes?

  The energy.

• 38:08Grant Cardone?

Something, they, like, like, probably a physical thing. Like, if you could just go back and look at, what did the person do?

• 38:14Lewis Howes?

  The sign.

• 38:15Grant Cardone?

Or say? Or do to somebody or not do. Maybe they didn't do something that was was consistent with what what just happened. And you you took that piece of data and filed it. And then you disregarded it. I've always known every time I've ever been with somebody that like. Got over on me, I'm like, you know, I knew that shit was gonna happen, dude. I don't know why I'm surprised. I'm not surprised. I didn't. I didn't acknowledge it.

• 38:43Lewis Howes?

Pay attention or have the conversation I needed to have.

• 38:45Grant Cardone?

Or sit down and talk to them, right? And so I think, you know, me. One, one thing is persistence. Two is definitely I understand math extremely well. I I understand numbers. Numbers have always been friendly to me. Particularly multiplication and division. So that's a superpower I have.

• 39:05Lewis Howes?

What do you mean by numbers? How it's a superpower for you? Why is that?

• 39:07Grant Cardone?

I just understand them. They're very like, I did a two day seminar after the 10x growth conference. We did three days and then I did two more days right behind that. On real estate to about 100 people. For eight hours, for 16 hours total. I was living in this. What what was like the matrix to me? Of formulas like literally like I wasn't in my body for 16 hours. For two days I was not in my body. I was completely exterminated. Because I was in this topic that I understand so well. And it's formulas and values and money and why something works and like. Like algebra, it was all these numbers written on the wall behind me in a chalkboard and I was living in them.

• 39:52Grant Cardone?

And so it's again, I mean, I don't know where it comes from or why I have it or whatever, but. I know that's a superpower. And the other one is. The ability to know when something's right and say, yeah, we're gonna do that or no. Like really fast decisions.

• 40:05Lewis Howes?

How do people? Why are people so slow on making decisions? In life, business, relationships? Why don't they commit on something?

• 40:13Grant Cardone?

Because I think they they this is that conversation about why you guys need to go talk to each other about. We're gonna buy the car. Am I gonna get a training session? Should I buy that? Lewis has got a $300 program. I got the woman has to go talk to her husband to buy a $300 program.

• 40:28Lewis Howes?

  Vice versa, yeah.

• 40:29Grant Cardone?

Or the guy's gotta talk to her.

• 40:31Lewis Howes?

  His wife, yeah.

• 40:32Grant Cardone?

Because you guys don't trust each other. But mostly you don't trust yourself.

• 40:36Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 40:38Grant Cardone?

There's no way I'm gonna talk to Elena. I'm not gonna stop, ladies, and call Elena and say, "Baby, I bought a hundred and forty, I did a hundred and forty million dollar deal. What do you think?" Now, I got a buddy, him and his wife talk about every real estate transaction they do. He doesn't get any. He doesn't get any what? He doesn't get the deals. Oh, really? They're too busy talking about the real estate deal. Someone else made the deal. I'm buying it. You're right. Wow. I don't call Elena. Elena, I tell Elena we bought it. She's like, "Great, man. Let's go do another one." She's, she celebrates. She trusts me, dude. She trusts the plan. She understands I'm a genius on this. She, she...

• 41:23Grant Cardone?

Right. This is your superpower. This is my superpower. She's talking about questioning your superpower. Exactly, man. Batman does not consult Superman. Right? He's like, "Go get it, bro." Fly over there, go save the world. He can't fly. Batman can't fly, right? Like, he can ju... It's my superpower. Elena has her superpowers. She probably doesn't consult you on it. She never consults me on it. Never talk. I don't even know what she's doing. I can't even, I don't even understand what it is. She's bouncing on a ball, and she's, she does this. She's gonna hate that I said this, okay? But, but I'm convinced that her bouncing on the ball is why she stays in such good shape. And she is thinking, her, her world is very ethereal.

• 42:07Grant Cardone?

It's almost like she doesn't live in the physical universe. What would that be called, uh, uh, in Hollywood? They have a name for it. The muse. She, she's the muse. She's the, the magician. You know, she, she lives in a world of like, I don't even know what she's doing in it. Like, it's all magic, dude. Right. You know, i- i- it's, it's some kind of like postulation, uh, imagination, and, and, and it's not about her. It's about us. It's about, it's about, it's about something bigger. It's about people we're gonna meet, places we're gonna go.

• 42:49Grant Cardone?

Elena has provided me come up with so many brilliant ideas that I would have never thought because I'm in effort, right? My, my superpower is persistence and push and, and that relentless. Hers is not any of that.

• 43:03Lewis Howes?

  It's brainstorming, it's vision.

• 43:05Grant Cardone?

She's like, oh, he doesn't, he's exhausted at five hours of an event.

• 43:12Grant Cardone?

Uh, oh, Grant, why don't you just do four hours? Keep the price the same.

• 43:17Lewis Howes?

  You never thought of that?

• 43:18Grant Cardone?

Never, never thought about it. I never thought, oh, I'm gonna cut it from eight hours to four hours. And then what happened was I, I went out to the, it was a product that we had that I used to deliver. And I said, guys, we're gonna do a four hour event. Twice the people showed up and we didn't have to reduce the price.

• 43:34Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 43:34Grant Cardone?

And that was Elena, because I would have never thought of it.

• 43:36Lewis Howes?

Yeah. Here's two questions. One, where do you think you'd be without being married to the right partner?

• 43:44Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 43:44Lewis Howes?

Currently, because you're 61, is that right? Where would you be? Would you be building as big of a business, an empire, without having the right married partner in your life? Could you do it single?

• 43:56Grant Cardone?

Well, one, I think I'd be miserable.

• 44:00Grant Cardone?

You know, uh, cause I remember being single and I wasn't happy.

• 44:02Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 44:03Grant Cardone?

I was, I mean, I was with somebody all the time.

• 44:05Lewis Howes?

  But you weren't happy?

• 44:05Grant Cardone?

  I always had somebody.

• 44:08Grant Cardone?

And, and, but, but I was miserable, dude, because I didn't have the right person. And...

• 44:14Lewis Howes?

How did you know it was the right person for you then?

• 44:16Grant Cardone?

Well, I thought it was just because the way she's mocked up, it's just her physical unit was like, okay, that's, that's my deal. And then the way she kinda like her, her attitude was fit for me, her confidence. And her vulnerability, you know, I liked, I liked all that. But where would I be? I mean, dude, I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing.

• 44:41Lewis Howes?

  What would you be doing?

• 44:41Grant Cardone?

I think, I think, I think 50%, I mean, I, unless we get a divorce and I gotta go to prenuptial, the, the, the whole, the, the, you know, she wants 50%, which by the way, I would tell her, hey, dude, you can't take 50 of this. This is ridiculous. But she has definitely contributed to a, this...

• 44:59Grant Cardone?

Expansion, right, right? That, that, cause I never, I never imagined I would be where I am today.

• 45:04Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 45:04Grant Cardone?

  Oh, no.

• 45:05Lewis Howes?

What did you imagine? I'm gonna make a couple million bucks a year and?

• 45:08Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I, that I'd have money. Never thought like at this level, ever.

• 45:12Lewis Howes?

  So you think your wife?

• 45:13Grant Cardone?

I bought a street up this, I bought a house up the street, I guess 15 years ago.

• 45:17Lewis Howes?

  On Doherty, right?

• 45:18Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I was worried I couldn't pay for it.

• 45:20Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 45:21Grant Cardone?

Oh, yeah. The jet, the jet wasn't mine, dude, that was Elena's idea. We paid for that, the first jet in the first year. Never, never dreamed.

• 45:29Lewis Howes?

  How long you been married?

• 45:30Grant Cardone?

  Fifteen years.

• 45:31Lewis Howes?

  Fifteen years.

• 45:32Grant Cardone?

It's Elena, but it's also us having a commitment to self-improvement too. It was like, that's the other thing that we did together. We were working on ourselves. We were taking care of each of our 24 inches or whatever, 36 inches from, you know, she would take care of her left and right shoulder, down to her feet and clean up her thing. And I did mine and we did that at the same time, together.

• 45:56Lewis Howes?

What was the thing that you needed to clean up the most since you got married? And same for her?

• 46:00Grant Cardone?

I needed to get rid of a lot of ideas.

• 46:02Lewis Howes?

  Like what?

• 46:04Grant Cardone?

Uh, just all these false, all these false ideas, dude, that I had accumulated from, from high school, from family, from counselors.

• 46:15Lewis Howes?

Two or three of them, what were they?

• 46:16Grant Cardone?

Um, I mean, there was, there's thousands of them. Uh, money, I was completely [__] up about money. Even though I had money.

• 46:28Lewis Howes?

In what way? What was the thing?

• 46:30Grant Cardone?

  Save money.

• 46:31Lewis Howes?

  Save money.

• 46:32Grant Cardone?

Save money, I was saving money all the time.

• 46:34Lewis Howes?

  As opposed to investing money?

• 46:35Grant Cardone?

Now I use it all. I don't save anything.

• 46:38Lewis Howes?

You empty it. Well, you probably have six months of like runway for paying living expenses or something.

• 46:43Grant Cardone?

No, I don't, I don't have any of that. I don't need it because I got the cash flow.

• 46:46Lewis Howes?

Oh, right, right. You got money coming in.

• 46:47Grant Cardone?

Cash flow is gonna take care of me for like, that's the thing that people have only gotten half the formula, right? They're like, oh, you need six months of reserves. No, you don't need it. Oh, you gotta have life insurance. No, you don't need that either. You don't need any of that if you have cash flow coming in. And the money thing I was screwed up on, I did a retirement account when I was 19 years old that was completely unnecessary. I bought life insurance when I was 21 years old. That was stupid. I was planning on dying or something. I don't know what I was thinking about. Time, how to manage time, you know, that I had all these ideas about time and that.

• 47:21Grant Cardone?

So many bad ideas I've had, you know, work, you gotta work hard. Raising money, that raising money was gonna be, you know, caused me problems. I mean, dude, I'd go on marriage, I'd be unhappy married.

• 47:36Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 47:37Grant Cardone?

The kids were gonna take away from me. All these were ideas that I had, you know?

• 47:42Lewis Howes?

What's been the greatest joy about being married and the biggest challenge?

• 47:46Grant Cardone?

The biggest joy, the challenge is probably easier, but the biggest joy is the kid, I mean, certainly having the kids.

• 47:53Lewis Howes?

And you thought the kids would take you away from your dreams or your business or?

• 47:59Grant Cardone?

I remember being scared that I'd just the responsibility, man.

• 48:04Lewis Howes?

  It's one of my fears.

• 48:05Grant Cardone?

  Like, goddamn.

• 48:07Lewis Howes?

If someone's life in your hands.

• 48:08Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 48:10Lewis Howes?

And what happened when you had kids?

• 48:13Grant Cardone?

  I got more of everything.

• 48:15Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 48:16Grant Cardone?

  You know, more of.

• 48:20Grant Cardone?

I got more time. I don't know how, how, how I actually got more time.

• 48:25Grant Cardone?

Uh, because I had this new thing to play with.

• 48:29Grant Cardone?

And I'm like, man, I'm gonna, I was so excited about this new thing. I got up earlier.

• 48:32Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 48:33Grant Cardone?

So we, I would get up an hour earlier because she needed sleep. She was exhausted. Elena, and I would grab Sabrina and I would take her to pavilions every morning.

• 48:41Lewis Howes?

  Right down the street?

• 48:43Grant Cardone?

Every morning and we'd walk the grocery store.

• 48:44Lewis Howes?

No way. She was, I love pavilions.

• 48:46Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I love it. She was three months old, man, and I'd take her in this swimming pool every day. My first daughter, at nine months old, I could take and put my foot on her at the bottom of the pool and she would be down there just cool as could be, dude.

• 49:00Lewis Howes?

Just because you were training her how to swim?

• 49:02Grant Cardone?

Yeah, exactly. You know, by the time she was a year, year old, she could hold on to my, around my neck and we could swim the length of the pool underwater.

• 49:09Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 49:10Grant Cardone?

Yeah, so and we, me and her are so connected, much more than, than Scarlett and myself. Just a different, completely different vibe. So having a kid broke a limitation. Dude, it broke a limitation about time, that I wasn't gonna have time and that it was gonna be like, and then the responsibility thing, I realized that like, I am a great dad. I make time. Hey Papa, I wanna go bike riding. Okay, let's go get the bikes. Like, I have figured out, I don't know, I just don't say no to them and I figure out, let's go do it, you know? Would you have kids? The plane, the plane, I don't think I would have the jet if it wasn't for the kids. Because I needed the jet so that I could spend time with the kids. Wow.

• 49:48Grant Cardone?

You know, a lot of people think the jet's for you, for you, but the jet really created a situation where I could spend more time with Elena and the kids. Otherwise, I'd be on an Airbus somewhere. Right. And I couldn't bring them. So, you know, we're on our way to Rome, Bucharest, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, and they're gonna be with me the entire time. Wow. That's, the, the good thing was the expansion, right, of the marriage and then the hard thing, dude, is just like. The challenge? Yeah, the challenge is like, you're both aging, which is the real deal. See, that, that, women will not like hearing that, that me even mentioning. Yeah, how is that, and what does that mean? What's the challenge with that? Well, you, you, you, even the kids, man, you see the kids growing up. Fast.

• 50:33Grant Cardone?

You don't, you don't want them to grow up because you know what that means about you. You're getting older. You're, you're dying. You ain't getting older, you're dying. Wow. You know, my mom didn't die that night. She'd been dying. So where, where am I, you know, if I, if I, if I, something happens and I die next week? Well, the reality is I was dying right here. Like, that's the life cycle. So watching the kids, I'm being reminded of my life cycle, my termination date. On this unit, you know? Right, right. On the G. This life, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And then, and then watching my wife and then us having to, like, change what we wanna do, you know, when you first meet and you're all excited and you wanna do sex and, you know? Travel and.

• 51:17Grant Cardone?

Oh, yeah, I mean, we, we, I bought that house up the hill and, and we were thirty days, maybe forty-five days before closing and we would sneak into the house. We were kids, man, we were like, and we were both, we're both firecrackers, right? So we would sneak into the house. Have sex in the house. Okay, we were crazy, dude. We didn't own the house yet. We were just like blessing the place. Before closing, right? And this was so exciting to us. And Elaine and I had those kind of things together. We would just have a blast, right? Well, when you, as you get older, you know, and more responsible, you start raising money. You probably don't want to be in, you know, seen

• 52:01Grant Cardone?

doing some of these things, right? And we live in a different world today, so. You know, we got through 2008, 9, 10. That was really hard. That was really good for us.

• 52:10Lewis Howes?

Because you lost all your money, a lot of money.

• 52:12Grant Cardone?

Yeah, yeah, it was terrifying. And I lost a lot of my sense of.

• 52:18Lewis Howes?

  Confidence or?

• 52:18Grant Cardone?

Well, that I had underestimated the reality of taking care of a wife and two kids. This was the first big loss I had since being a father and a husband. And I was like, wait a minute. I was still calculating based on Grant.

• 52:37Lewis Howes?

  Not on my family.

• 52:39Grant Cardone?

I got a kid, two kids, I got a wife. My reputation's starting to expand a little bit. I just got whacked. And I don't want to keep doing this. Like, I know a lot of people say they learn from their losses, but I don't. I get better because of my successes. I don't need a lot of kryptonite moments. I'm not interested in those.

• 53:01Lewis Howes?

Yeah, it just takes longer to grow again. To get back to where you want to be.

• 53:04Grant Cardone?

You know, Mike told me something the other day in the hot box. He says, you know, because he started thinking differently about some of the stuff I was saying to him. And he said, I said, you know, Mike, I know you blame, you know, you think your success is what hurts you, but I guarantee if you look back, those first fights you were winning. Everything about, everything brightened up in your life when you started winning in life. Hey Grant, you know, my grades got better.

• 53:36Grant Cardone?

You got more confidence. Dude, of course. He even learned better. I said, you know, I, I, I don't, I don't learn from losses. I, I learn from successes and then I try to repeat those things. Do more of those things that are succeeding. And then get the, the bucket gets bigger. Yeah. Right, the rim gets bigger, the field goal gets bigger, right? Everything gets bigger, it's easier to make the shot because I have the wins. And I think, I feel so bad for people, particularly around money, that they never have the victories. Back to back enough victories to be like, wow, what else could I do?

• 54:10Grant Cardone?

And so Elena has given me that. I would not have that if I was by myself. You know, and, and the, the beautiful thing that we have that, that unfortunately I see a lot of people not, we, we just don't fight about some stuff that people fight about. Like what? The silly stuff that's not important in their minds? I mean, I just see a lot of guys like, he, he wants to be on social media and she doesn't.

• 54:33Grant Cardone?

Right, we, we've never even had that conversation, like, we're just, we're on. We're, we're going someplace, right? It's not about Facebook or Instagram. She does it different than I do and, and there's things that like irritate me about, you know, but we're, we're not, there's things we just don't fight about. Yeah. What do you fight about?

• 54:54Grant Cardone?

We probably fight about, let me see what we fight about. It's same shit over and over, right? It's always the same stuff like, like she, we moved rooms into a different room at the, at the hotel today. And I'm like, how much is this room Elena? And she's like, I don't know. And I knew she didn't ask. Yeah, she said, I want this. She's just like, okay, we're in a bungalow, we stayed longer, they, they, that, that room's sold out. So they need to move us to another room. They move us to the spin house room. I'm like, how, how much is this? Five grand a night or something. And she's like, it doesn't matter, right? What matters is that she doesn't know. Now, this is a game that I play with her. It's not, it's not a fun game. It's a game that nobody wins at.

• 55:36Lewis Howes?

  What's the game?

• 55:37Grant Cardone?

And the game is, how much is the room? I know she didn't ask, because I know she does not have, that's not her style.

• 55:42Lewis Howes?

  Her superpower, yeah.

• 55:43Grant Cardone?

Dude, she's not gonna ask the guy. I just realized that today, as I'm sitting here telling you, I'm like, she's never going to ask how much. And I keep asking her to ask, but it makes her feel bad.

• 55:53Lewis Howes?

Why do you care to ask her that?

• 55:54Grant Cardone?

Because I know that with money, you should ask, how much is this?

• 55:59Lewis Howes?

Even if you have an abundant.

• 56:00Grant Cardone?

Because one day I'm not gonna be here. And she's gonna get ripped off.

• 56:04Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 56:05Grant Cardone?

Okay, her magic will get, her magic powers will be taken advantage of. Cause she lives in this ethereal, she's very, she's a bit naive. And she, she would admit that. And, and I think.

• 56:17Lewis Howes?

It's more of a principle than it is like the money.

• 56:18Grant Cardone?

  Oh, to- totally. It's totally.

• 56:20Lewis Howes?

You'd probably pay for it anyways, no matter what the price is.

• 56:22Grant Cardone?

I should have asked. I didn't ask the guy either, for the same reason, by the way, you know? So, so, uh, it's this embarrassing thing, how much is the room? You know, it's like, what do we argue about? Uh, we argue about that, we argue about, you know, she, she takes the kids off of sugar and the next thing you know, she's giving them sugar. It's alright when she does it, but it's not alright when I do it. You know, so that, that's a bit of a bother. But nothing terrible, dude, like.

• 56:51Lewis Howes?

  What's the keys?

• 56:52Grant Cardone?

She, she, I'll tell you another one, okay? She, she goes down to this place, she goes down to this place and works out in the morning, it's a long drive. Dumb shit, dude, it's always dumb shit.

• 57:02Lewis Howes?

You got a sick gym right in your building, or right down the street.

• 57:05Grant Cardone?

And she goes down the street, it's 25 minutes. I'm like, dude, it's so dumb to go all the way down there, have him come to you.

• 57:13Lewis Howes?

Right. Pay extra 20 bucks or whatever, yeah.

• 57:15Grant Cardone?

  Whatever.

• 57:16Lewis Howes?

  Yeah. Makes sense.

• 57:19Grant Cardone?

Now, the things that she doesn't like about me, I mean, you'd have to ask her, but I'm sure it's an endless list.

• 57:24Lewis Howes?

What's the three keys to, uh, if like you had to say for any couple that was gonna get married? Like, make sure you do these three things if you wanna have as much of a chance of being fulfilled and love and the passion and the, you know? Everything that could thrive in a marriage, what would be the three things you think are the most important? For you both to be able to live your dreams and have the family you want and everything?

• 57:48Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I don't know, man, I shouldn't give people advice on that.

• 57:51Lewis Howes?

For you, for you, what would you say are the three keys to your relationship then?

• 57:58Lewis Howes?

What makes it work so well?

• 57:59Grant Cardone?

I always do what I say I'm gonna do. I never don't do what I say I'm gonna do. I tell you I'm gonna do something, I'll do it.

• 58:05Lewis Howes?

So you follow your word to her?

• 58:07Grant Cardone?

  Always.

• 58:07Lewis Howes?

No matter what it is, yeah?

• 58:09Grant Cardone?

You know, she doesn't, not only do I do it, I do it right then. Like, I don't put it off. So I would tell guys out there, at least, I would tell anybody, I don't think it matters whether you're a guy or a gal. Do what you say you're gonna do and do it as fast as you can. You know, don't add time. Because if you're adding time, you're not doing it.

• 58:29Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 58:30Grant Cardone?

  You're doing something else.

• 58:33Lewis Howes?

  Second thing?

• 58:33Grant Cardone?

  Number two is, uh...

• 58:35Lewis Howes?

But you do, that works well.

• 58:36Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, you know, uh...

• 58:40Grant Cardone?

You know, I take care, I take care of my family, man. I think that's important.

• 58:44Lewis Howes?

  Financially, spiritually, emotionally?

• 58:46Grant Cardone?

Yeah, like, like, like, yeah, like... Yeah, I make things go right so that they're taken care of. I think that's more for me, though, than them.

• 58:56Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 58:56Grant Cardone?

Just to be completely honest. I mean, I, I wanna feel good about me. You know, so I know, oh, I take care of my family, he's such a good provider. He's doing that for himself.

• 59:07Lewis Howes?

Right, yeah, to make you feel good.

• 59:08Grant Cardone?

I'm not, I'm not, yeah. So, the third thing is, I think sex is important.

• 59:13Lewis Howes?

Yeah, I hear that a lot from married couples.

• 59:15Grant Cardone?

  You know?

• 59:16Lewis Howes?

Once the sex is gone and dies, it's like...

• 59:18Grant Cardone?

You need to, you need to hit it, even if you don't want to.

• 59:20Lewis Howes?

Right. So how do you get...

• 59:22Grant Cardone?

Okay, I'm just saying, like, you know, when she's in the mood and, and you...

• 59:26Lewis Howes?

  You're not.

• 59:27Grant Cardone?

You need to turn it on, dude. You need, you need to light, light up the house.

• 59:30Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 59:31Grant Cardone?

  And vice versa.

• 59:33Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 59:33Grant Cardone?

Like, it's not about, you know, it's about getting your game on.

• 59:37Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 59:38Grant Cardone?

And I think a lot of relationships, if you played the other games in life, or business, if you applied those rules, if you did the same thing in the bedroom, right? Or, or you tried to do some of the bedroom, "I don't feel like it tonight, I got a headache, I got a period, I got, you know, I'm just, I'm tired." Dude, if you did that in business, you'd be broke.

• 1:00:02Lewis Howes?

Right. So your relationship is broke too, your marriage is broke.

• 1:00:05Grant Cardone?

Well, like, like, there's no way, you, you can't do something at work. You're doing it, by the way, if you're doing that in the bedroom, you're doing it. On the phone.

• 1:00:13Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:00:13Grant Cardone?

  It it during your day.

• 1:00:14Lewis Howes?

  Your sales calls and stuff.

• 1:00:15Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I say always arise to the occasion.

• 1:00:19Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:00:19Grant Cardone?

  You know.

• 1:00:21Lewis Howes?

Okay, I like it. Here's something, I went through uh some stuff recently where I actually I got a lot of critiques and haters.

• 1:00:28Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:00:29Lewis Howes?

  And I know you're.

• 1:00:30Grant Cardone?

  A lot about these.

• 1:00:31Lewis Howes?

And you're not, you're you're used to this. People are, you rub people the wrong way, you say what you what you feel, what you think. And you know, people don't, some people don't like that, right? So. How do you? Handle that? If someone, if there's just a barrage of like negative comments, this guy's a scam, this guy's horrible, this guy's a liar, rude, whatever they say. I don't know what they're saying. How do you deal with?

• 1:00:54Grant Cardone?

Well, it depends on whether it's. Like if it's false and somebody's trying to hurt me. That's different than if it's. Got some truth in it.

• 1:01:02Lewis Howes?

Hmm. So if it's false and someone's trying to hurt you.

• 1:01:05Grant Cardone?

  I'm gonna crush him, dude.

• 1:01:06Lewis Howes?

  How so?

• 1:01:08Grant Cardone?

They're trying to hurt me, my reputation, my name, my money, like. I'm gonna fucking crush him. I'm gonna call him out.

• 1:01:14Lewis Howes?

  Uh huh. Publicly.

• 1:01:16Grant Cardone?

Publicly call him out, I'm gonna take him on straight up. I'm gonna make it known that they made this claim.

• 1:01:22Lewis Howes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:01:23Grant Cardone?

You know, like I I know things that go on with, I'm like, and I'm gonna, I'm gonna confront it.

• 1:01:27Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:01:28Grant Cardone?

I'm gonna confront the fucking devil.

• 1:01:29Lewis Howes?

  Wow, okay.

• 1:01:30Grant Cardone?

  Evil, man, it's evil.

• 1:01:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:32Grant Cardone?

Like it's evil, dude, evil exists.

• 1:01:34Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, it does.

• 1:01:35Grant Cardone?

People don't even know they're doing it. I'm not talking about the Taliban, I'm not talking about, you know, some bad group of people, I'm talking about people, friends, sisters, cousins, uh, people that work for you, dude, they they they're they're good for like. Seven and a half hours a day and for thirty minutes, dude, they take on this evil valence. If you don't crack them. Then they'll do it in an hour the next time.

• 1:01:59Lewis Howes?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:02:00Grant Cardone?

People in this internet influencer space is very, very small space, you know, the. Or any space, whatever, I'm sure the NFL has it, the NBA has it, you know, these guys. Have these great moments and then they go evil for a second, some somebody on the team needs to say, hey, man, dude, dude. You gotta knock it off.

• 1:02:17Lewis Howes?

Right, and what if it's just?

• 1:02:19Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:20Lewis Howes?

  Negative comments of just.

• 1:02:21Grant Cardone?

Yeah, I mean, like, like somebody on my my stream.

• 1:02:25Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:25Grant Cardone?

They're providing you with fodder, though, there there's so much good data there, dude.

• 1:02:29Lewis Howes?

Does it ever affect you emotionally?

• 1:02:31Grant Cardone?

Oh, yeah, I mean, I look, I am a weak person, like I would love everyone to love me.

• 1:02:36Lewis Howes?

  Right, I remember saying this.

• 1:02:38Grant Cardone?

Of course, I mean, I would like everybody to like me more, you know? But it's just not, it's never gonna happen.

• 1:02:43Lewis Howes?

So how do you handle it when it affects you emotionally? Do you just sit back and breathe for a minute? Do you reflect? Do you talk to your wife? Do you go for a jog?

• 1:02:53Grant Cardone?

I never tell her about it. She can't handle it. Like, it's not good for her.

• 1:02:56Lewis Howes?

  Cause it'll hurt her.

• 1:02:57Grant Cardone?

Yeah. So they call her a gold digger, right?

• 1:03:00Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:01Grant Cardone?

And then my response to them is, dude, you need to find a gold digger. Cause if you're the only one digging and she's not.

• 1:03:10Lewis Howes?

  That's great.

• 1:03:10Grant Cardone?

  She's, you know.

• 1:03:11Lewis Howes?

  She's digging with you.

• 1:03:12Grant Cardone?

See, I use it. I roll with it. It's a, it's a geo, what, what is that? The karate move, right?

• 1:03:18Lewis Howes?

  Moving with it, yeah.

• 1:03:19Grant Cardone?

It's move with the energy, dude. It's got all this juice on it.

• 1:03:22Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:22Grant Cardone?

People call me a show off. Like, I use it now. I, I get to it before they do.

• 1:03:27Lewis Howes?

Hey, like, look, God showed off. Yeah, I'm just trying to be more like that.

• 1:03:29Grant Cardone?

Yeah, dude, you know, so, so today I did a post on Instagram, you know? Elena's at the plane. She did this photo shoot for LA Magazine or LA Style Magazine. And, and, and the post is, now we are showing off.

• 1:03:42Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:03:43Grant Cardone?

So, so there's a lot of good in the criticism.

• 1:03:46Lewis Howes?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:03:47Grant Cardone?

Or the brokenness, whether it's just character defects or whatever. There's probably some truth in it. So it's like.

• 1:03:51Lewis Howes?

How do you handle that emotionally? And how do you not let it consume your mind for too long? Where you're like, not doing what you wanna do? Like, how do you personally deal with it? Not obsessing over for like?

• 1:04:00Grant Cardone?

If anything, some of it's, that's, that's just not, it's just mean, right? Some of it's mean. It's not meant to really cause any damage. There's just meanness, you know? Those people, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna probably try to see if I can harness some of that energy and show them, like, really put it in their face.

• 1:04:21Lewis Howes?

  How so?

• 1:04:22Grant Cardone?

Like, okay, watch how big I can get.

• 1:04:24Lewis Howes?

Yeah. So your ego gets involved and you're like, I'm gonna show it.

• 1:04:27Grant Cardone?

Yeah, to- totally, totally. Like, like, okay. Um, these guys that sued me back in 10, you know, and they, it was completely malicious.

• 1:04:37Grant Cardone?

  Totally frivolous.

• 1:04:37Lewis Howes?

Isn't that the worst thing when you get something that's just coming after you and you just have to deal with it? Even though it's wrong.

• 1:04:42Grant Cardone?

It's happening all the time too.

• 1:04:44Lewis Howes?

  These people come after you.

• 1:04:45Grant Cardone?

The go-to movement, some of that was legitimate.

• 1:04:49Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:49Grant Cardone?

  Some of it was not.

• 1:04:50Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:51Grant Cardone?

Like, people accusing people of doing stuff that wasn't done.

• 1:04:54Lewis Howes?

  And just spreading lies.

• 1:04:56Grant Cardone?

Totally, making accusations about people that aren't true, that are completely fabricated, like, that

• 1:05:02Lewis Howes?

I had someone do that to me.

• 1:05:04Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:04Lewis Howes?

  And it's like, evil.

• 1:05:06Grant Cardone?

  Evil dude.

• 1:05:07Lewis Howes?

Because there's nothing, there's no proof.

• 1:05:08Grant Cardone?

  And that person's convinced.

• 1:05:10Lewis Howes?

I'm like, please show me the proof.

• 1:05:11Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:05:12Lewis Howes?

Show me where I did something.

• 1:05:13Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:14Lewis Howes?

You can't just say what you want.

• 1:05:15Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:16Lewis Howes?

  And, and then people.

• 1:05:18Grant Cardone?

  You kinda can though.

• 1:05:18Lewis Howes?

You can't, that's the thing that pisses me off, that you can, someone can say what they want right now and just people believe it.

• 1:05:23Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:24Lewis Howes?

Without having any facts or hearing another side of the story, you're getting nothing. It's messed up, man.

• 1:05:29Grant Cardone?

  It is.

• 1:05:30Lewis Howes?

  Messed up.

• 1:05:31Grant Cardone?

And it is. And it's like, how do you use it though, right? So like, that lawsuit, I didn't, until this happens to a person, they're not gonna know it's real.

• 1:05:40Lewis Howes?

  It's true.

• 1:05:41Grant Cardone?

  It's only.

• 1:05:42Lewis Howes?

It's, and if you're never gonna get it.

• 1:05:43Grant Cardone?

Waterboarding's not real to you until you, you, you put the rag on your face.

• 1:05:47Lewis Howes?

And this isn't gonna, and this is what people need to understand, you need to be prepared for attacks.

• 1:05:52Grant Cardone?

Dude, it is going to happen.

• 1:05:54Lewis Howes?

When you expand your vision and your empire and your dreams, get ready, cause now everyone's gonna come after you.

• 1:06:00Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:00Lewis Howes?

Or not everyone, but it's going to happen at some point.

• 1:06:02Grant Cardone?

  It's coming, it's coming.

• 1:06:03Lewis Howes?

  Whether it's valid or not.

• 1:06:05Grant Cardone?

Yeah, it's gonna come from places that you don't even imagine.

• 1:06:08Lewis Howes?

  Completely unexpected.

• 1:06:09Grant Cardone?

Closer to you than you might have expected.

• 1:06:11Lewis Howes?

  This happened to me.

• 1:06:12Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:12Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:13Grant Cardone?

  And, and so.

• 1:06:16Lewis Howes?

So how should people prepare for that?

• 1:06:17Grant Cardone?

Well, with that lawsuit, I'll tell you what I did with that lawsuit.

• 1:06:19Lewis Howes?

Cause you never had experience with that, you didn't know how to deal with this.

• 1:06:21Grant Cardone?

The bill's 200 grand a month. I'm defending, I'm defending, I'm like, I'm telling my lawyer, I bought, hired the best lawyer, I'm like, dude, I didn't do this. That's not true. He's like, it doesn't matter, we still gotta defend it.

• 1:06:33Lewis Howes?

It's the worst, and you don't get the money back.

• 1:06:34Grant Cardone?

Why do I need to go to a deposition?

• 1:06:35Lewis Howes?

And you don't get the money back.

• 1:06:36Grant Cardone?

No, there's no, it's all, it's all a loser thing, you know? He's like, Grant, you should just pay this guy. Fuck, I ain't paying this guy, man. Later, like, 15 months in a deal, I'm like, I should've just paid the guy.

• 1:06:46Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:06:46Grant Cardone?

Well, the only way I could actually get even later was to like. I'm gonna get so big. Th- this was the best money I ever spent in my life, dude. Cost me a couple million dollars, plus about, uh, I lost nine million in the deal.

• 1:06:59Lewis Howes?

  Plus time, energy, life, health.

• 1:07:02Grant Cardone?

Stress. Had to take three years, four years off my life.

• 1:07:05Lewis Howes?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 1:07:06Grant Cardone?

And, and, but at the end of it, I told Lain, I said, I'm gonna get so [bleep] big. This guy, every night, every morning, he's gonna wake up, he's gonna have to see me. Ralph and Rob.

• 1:07:19Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:07:21Grant Cardone?

And so for you guys, like, you're like, he's so aggressive. Yeah, I'm trying to prove something. Right, I'm trying, I'm trying to, I'm trying to show guys that the bad guys, that like, you know what, you picked the wrong pony, dude.

• 1:07:34Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:07:35Grant Cardone?

You should have bet on me.

• 1:07:37Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:07:37Grant Cardone?

And you didn't, you bet against me.

• 1:07:39Lewis Howes?

And now look at you, if you would have bet on me, we could have done together.

• 1:07:42Grant Cardone?

They ended up losing the lawsuit.

• 1:07:43Lewis Howes?

  Oh, wow.

• 1:07:44Grant Cardone?

But, but where they really lost was that every day now, they gotta be reminded. Lady Gaga talked about that.

• 1:07:50Lewis Howes?

  Really, what she said?

• 1:07:51Grant Cardone?

She just, she was, how many people counted her out?

• 1:07:54Lewis Howes?

Now they're all wishing they would have bet on her.

• 1:07:55Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:59Grant Cardone?

And, and that's not a revenge thing, I, I know it sounds like a low grade, kinda like retaliation.

• 1:08:05Lewis Howes?

  Ego revenge, yeah.

• 1:08:06Grant Cardone?

  But.

• 1:08:07Lewis Howes?

Cause I don't think revenge is sustainable long-term. Like, the energy it takes to be venge-

• 1:08:11Grant Cardone?

Yeah, well, this has been 15 years, it's been working pretty good for me, but, you know. You know, I think, how do you use it, you know, so that it doesn't consume you?

• 1:08:20Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 1:08:21Grant Cardone?

And, and how do you keep using it?

• 1:08:23Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:24Grant Cardone?

You know, and, and, um, in a, in a healthy way.

• 1:08:28Lewis Howes?

You're not trying to harm someone, yeah.

• 1:08:30Grant Cardone?

Yeah, no, no, and they were trying to harm, harm me. But it really woke me up to the, hey, man, you guys got, you need to have a budget for, um, fabricated fucking bullshit.

• 1:08:41Lewis Howes?

  Craziness.

• 1:08:42Grant Cardone?

You need to have, people should have budgets, th- this is the money thing that people need to confront. People need to have budgets for like, all kinda crazy shit.

• 1:08:48Lewis Howes?

Yeah, even just emergencies for their life, like their car, or this, their home, something breaks down, whatever it is.

• 1:08:53Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:54Lewis Howes?

  Health insurance.

• 1:08:54Grant Cardone?

Or how about, how about, what if the internet goes down tomorrow?

• 1:08:57Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:08:57Grant Cardone?

  Your business is screwed.

• 1:08:59Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:59Grant Cardone?

  Huh?

• 1:09:00Lewis Howes?

Not that screwed, I mean. You got other stuff going on.

• 1:09:02Grant Cardone?

Well, no, no, if the internet goes down.

• 1:09:04Lewis Howes?

  Like as a podcast, yeah.

• 1:09:06Grant Cardone?

You're not gonna be able to go to Whole Foods and buy food. You're not gonna be able to go to.

• 1:09:09Lewis Howes?

Well, I got money, but yeah.

• 1:09:10Grant Cardone?

No, cash, you're gonna need cash. What if it goes down for five or six days at a time, right?

• 1:09:13Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:09:14Grant Cardone?

So where do people go to get money? The bank's gonna be closed.

• 1:09:16Lewis Howes?

Oh, I see what you're saying.

• 1:09:16Grant Cardone?

  The bank's closed.

• 1:09:17Lewis Howes?

Yeah, I got no cash, yeah.

• 1:09:18Grant Cardone?

  The credit card's no good.

• 1:09:19Lewis Howes?

  It's all like.

• 1:09:20Grant Cardone?

Like, but how many people? Guy, I know a guy up the street, he's got twenty million dollars worth of Apple stock. He's got a house that's paid for, it's probably worth thirty million bucks. If the internet collapsed today, he could not, he could not. I totally tell him this.

• 1:09:32Lewis Howes?

  Food, gas.

• 1:09:32Grant Cardone?

  In five days, he's busted.

• 1:09:34Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:35Grant Cardone?

  He doesn't have money.

• 1:09:36Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:37Grant Cardone?

He doesn't have cash, he can't get it. You can't trade your house for Whole Foods. So there's a lot of people in America walking around saying, everything's gonna be fine. We're gonna have electricity, we're gonna have gas, we're gonna have.

• 1:09:48Lewis Howes?

  Like in Puerto Rico.

• 1:09:49Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, exactly. And that's.

• 1:09:50Lewis Howes?

They couldn't even leave the island, they were stuck. Couldn't get food, no water. For months.

• 1:09:55Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:55Lewis Howes?

Unless they were super wealthy and had a private jet or something.

• 1:10:00Lewis Howes?

How do you build a culture of success around a team? When you left two thousand ten-ish and moved.

• 1:10:07Grant Cardone?

  Here, yeah.

• 1:10:08Lewis Howes?

And probably had a small team.

• 1:10:10Grant Cardone?

  Six people.

• 1:10:10Lewis Howes?

Yeah. And then you go to Miami and build an empire over the last, you know, eight, nine years. Whenever you started doing that, seven, eight years ago. How do you build from small team to this large team now? With a culture of success? After you've come from like a busted experience?

• 1:10:31Grant Cardone?

We have probably grown the staff fifty times since leaving LA. Leaving LA was one of the best things I ever did. As much as I like the weather here and.

• 1:10:40Lewis Howes?

What do you mean you grew it fifty times? What does that mean?

• 1:10:42Grant Cardone?

Well, we're, we're three hundred employees.

• 1:10:44Lewis Howes?

  Oh, wow, yeah.

• 1:10:45Grant Cardone?

So we had six here. The problem with six is you're dependent upon four broken people. If you're not one of them.

• 1:10:52Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:10:53Grant Cardone?

I hate being dependent upon broken people. I want partnerships where I feel good. Like, I, I got some really good people around me.

• 1:11:01Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:01Grant Cardone?

People say this to us all the time, man, you got a lot of good people around you.

• 1:11:04Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, you do.

• 1:11:04Grant Cardone?

I got people that people wanna hire away. You know, and they're, they're untouchable. They're not going anyplace.

• 1:11:11Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:12Grant Cardone?

  So.

• 1:11:12Lewis Howes?

How do you build that culture of people that?

• 1:11:14Grant Cardone?

You gotta get rid of people.

• 1:11:15Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:16Grant Cardone?

You gotta add and get rid of.

• 1:11:18Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:18Grant Cardone?

You, you have to flush. You don't flush?

• 1:11:22Lewis Howes?

How do you deal with that emotionally when you're, when you're building a team?

• 1:11:24Grant Cardone?

  I don't, I don't, I don't get rid of anybody.

• 1:11:26Lewis Howes?

  You don't do it?

• 1:11:27Grant Cardone?

  I'm, yeah, I mean, I'm a tough guy and all that, but I don't, I don't, I don't think I've ever fired anybody.

• 1:11:32Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:11:32Grant Cardone?

I say, Sherry, fire him. Made the call today, told, said, hey, the guy's gotta go.

• 1:11:37Lewis Howes?

  And then it's gone.

• 1:11:37Grant Cardone?

  I don't want, I don't want.

• 1:11:38Lewis Howes?

Gone today, gone by the end of the week, how's it?

• 1:11:40Grant Cardone?

When I get back, I don't want him there.

• 1:11:41Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:11:44Grant Cardone?

So, it's a mistake. We made a mistake. Sherry, you know it. I know it. I don't want the mistake. I don't, I don't want to second guess myself when I'm around somebody.

• 1:11:52Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:11:53Grant Cardone?

So, when I got somebody on my team, I don't mind second guessing the other side. I cannot afford to second guess my side.

• 1:12:00Lewis Howes?

  Hmm.

• 1:12:01Grant Cardone?

  Whether it's my lawyer, accountant.

• 1:12:03Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:03Grant Cardone?

A partner in a deal, I can't have people second guessing our playbook. Cause I'm already, I already got enough. It's already hard enough.

• 1:12:12Lewis Howes?

You've got so many decisions you're gonna make all day.

• 1:12:14Grant Cardone?

Yeah. So, when, when, while people are worried about the other side, I'm worried about our side. More than the other side.

• 1:12:20Lewis Howes?

How do you know when you've hired the right person? How do you hire them?

• 1:12:23Grant Cardone?

  I never know that.

• 1:12:25Lewis Howes?

So, you do your best and then you find out within a month?

• 1:12:27Grant Cardone?

Yeah, but they could go bad. I've had guys go bad. I've had guys that, you know, they've been with us three years. They're superstars. They're doing great. But also, when you see those graphs coming down, we graph everybody. So, everybody's on a graph.

• 1:12:39Lewis Howes?

What do you mean? You're, you're charting, ranking, you're?

• 1:12:42Grant Cardone?

Uh, calls out, emails out, proposals made if they're in sales. Sales made, income brought in, but if it's a personal assistant.

• 1:12:55Grant Cardone?

Targets achieved, uh, task done, um, emails handled, whatever, whatever it is their job is, right? If it's sweeping, we graph it all. If it was sweeping, how many hallways did you sweep? Doorways did you sweep? Trash bags did you collect? Blah, blah, blah. When that graph goes down to it, you got a guy that's already quit. You can't keep a graph erected up, moving up, if the guy's checked out.

• 1:13:21Lewis Howes?

Do you feel like that's your responsibility to, you know, maybe you weren't paying attention, just like in your relationship? If that, if your wife checked out, is that also a responsibility for you to say, oh, maybe I wasn't giving them what they needed? Or the, the incentive or the encouragement? I don't know.

• 1:13:37Grant Cardone?

  It's them. It's never me.

• 1:13:40Lewis Howes?

  It's never you?

• 1:13:41Grant Cardone?

I need to get my own graph up. So I just keep spiking my graph. Right? My graph keeps going up. I've become the role model for the organization. Then I got Sherri, she's got her graph. She keeps her graph going up. Jared needs to do his deal. Seko needs to do his deal. Graph it all, man, because numbers don't lie.

• 1:13:58Lewis Howes?

Do your graph ever go down?

• 1:14:00Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:01Lewis Howes?

  For a week a month?

• 1:14:02Grant Cardone?

Yeah, it goes down. It doesn't normally go down that long. Because what I do is I watch it. When it goes down, I pick it up again. So whatever picked it up the last time, I go back and hit that graph again. I go back and hit that action.

• 1:14:13Lewis Howes?

What's the system you guys use for the graphing or the... Is there a... Is it software? Is it an internal thing?

• 1:14:18Grant Cardone?

It's simple. I mean, it's just a... You know, we just take whatever the task or activity is, put it on a...

• 1:14:23Lewis Howes?

  A spreadsheet?

• 1:14:24Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 1:14:25Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, got it.

• 1:14:26Grant Cardone?

  Nothing, nothing, you know?

• 1:14:28Lewis Howes?

What would be one piece of advice for growing the culture of success? Besides graphing, is there an energy? Is it saying the mission over and over? Is it you setting the example?

• 1:14:41Grant Cardone?

We will do that. We will do that. No, no, we don't do any of that. We have a meeting every day. You know, we look for compliance and willingness before intelligence.

• 1:14:50Lewis Howes?

So you don't look for skill, you look for someone who's...

• 1:14:53Grant Cardone?

I don't look for potential. I never look for potential.

• 1:14:57Lewis Howes?

What do you look for then? Just like, yes, I'm willing to do whatever?

• 1:15:00Grant Cardone?

We hire the way the Patriots do.

• 1:15:02Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:15:04Grant Cardone?

They don't hire the best guys.

• 1:15:05Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:15:07Grant Cardone?

They never do. They get all the rings, though.

• 1:15:10Lewis Howes?

  They do.

• 1:15:11Grant Cardone?

Okay, there's three people in charge on that team. There's not 33. It is a dictator. There's a dictator on that team. If you study all sports, I mean, it's pretty much like that, too. Portland doesn't really have that, you know? He leaves Curry alone and he leaves, you know...

• 1:15:30Lewis Howes?

  Durant.

• 1:15:31Grant Cardone?

Durant alone. And they're doing good, you know? I mean, it's a different style, right?

• 1:15:35Lewis Howes?

Somebody's... Those are with superstars, yeah.

• 1:15:37Grant Cardone?

Man, it's gotta be so hard.

• 1:15:38Lewis Howes?

Yeah. Because everyone's got a personality, everyone's got their opinion.

• 1:15:41Grant Cardone?

Yeah. But so let's see how long that legacy can last. What are they, three years now?

• 1:15:45Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:46Grant Cardone?

So, you know, let's see if they tear themselves apart. But I know that New England Patriots thing works.

• 1:15:51Lewis Howes?

  Consistently.

• 1:15:51Grant Cardone?

There's an owner. He's not involved.

• 1:15:54Lewis Howes?

  He trusts the coach.

• 1:15:55Grant Cardone?

This guy Bill runs the deal.

• 1:15:57Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:58Grant Cardone?

And then Bill gives the ball to Brady and says, go do the deal.

• 1:16:02Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:03Grant Cardone?

So they... Hire from the lower half of the draft. They don't overpay for anybody. And if, and if you don't comply, you're looking off the team. They're gonna win without a great person. I like that.

• 1:16:18Lewis Howes?

They got one great person, they got the best quarterback.

• 1:16:20Grant Cardone?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they got, they got a bunch of no names.

• 1:16:23Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:16:23Grant Cardone?

You don't know any names on the team. Yeah.

• 1:16:25Lewis Howes?

  They make them great, yeah.

• 1:16:26Grant Cardone?

And, and so, so I like that because then I'm not dependent upon a superstar. Right? Before I, before I worked for myself, I was the superstar where I worked and I made them kiss the ring every day, dude. I was a total diva. And I'm like, I'm never, I'm never gonna put myself in this situation. Where one guy runs the show.

• 1:16:47Lewis Howes?

  Interesting.

• 1:16:48Grant Cardone?

So that's why our staff's so big. I, I wanna get that staff to 1,200 people, really.

• 1:16:54Lewis Howes?

Does that not stress you out going from six to 1,200?

• 1:16:56Grant Cardone?

  No, it's gonna be easier.

• 1:17:01Grant Cardone?

It's gonna be easier, man. Get more done.

• 1:17:03Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:04Grant Cardone?

  All big companies do that.

• 1:17:05Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:17:05Grant Cardone?

So that's what we're doing, we're just studying big companies now. Rather than studying people in my space, you know, people that I'm supposedly competing with or, you know, the guy that became a big name and outsourced everything, we're like, no, we wanna take this, we wanna run this thing internally and get big, man.

• 1:17:21Lewis Howes?

  That's great, man.

• 1:17:22Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:22Lewis Howes?

  Love it, man.

• 1:17:23Grant Cardone?

  School of greatness.

• 1:17:24Lewis Howes?

Okay, couple final questions for you, this is great, man. I love this.

• 1:17:28Grant Cardone?

You broke me down today, but I didn't expect you to do that.

• 1:17:30Lewis Howes?

I wasn't expecting it either, I'm just asking questions.

• 1:17:32Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:34Lewis Howes?

Setting the stage. This is called the three truths, I think I've asked it to you before.

• 1:17:37Grant Cardone?

  Okay.

• 1:17:38Lewis Howes?

So, imagine it's your last day.

• 1:17:42Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:43Lewis Howes?

But you pick the day, pick the year, you know, you can be as old as you want. At some point, you gotta leave this physical body and you go to the next round, wherever you're going.

• 1:17:51Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:52Lewis Howes?

And you achieved everything, man. You made the 10 billion as a hundred, whatever you want it to be.

• 1:17:57Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:58Lewis Howes?

  You got it.

• 1:17:59Grant Cardone?

  Achieved everything?

• 1:18:00Lewis Howes?

Everything you wanted up until that moment happened. Maybe you still have more dreams beyond that, but maybe you did it.

• 1:18:07Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:18:08Lewis Howes?

  10 billion, 20 billion, 100 million, whatever, it's just a number.

• 1:18:11Grant Cardone?

Kids are happy, they're healthy, they love me.

• 1:18:13Lewis Howes?

They've got, they're married, they're there by your bedside, just like you were with your mom.

• 1:18:17Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:17Lewis Howes?

  They're there.

• 1:18:18Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:18Lewis Howes?

  They're, everything's loving.

• 1:18:20Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:18:20Lewis Howes?

Connected, there's no, there's no negative energy. You got an opportunity to share a message with them.

• 1:18:26Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:18:26Lewis Howes?

That they would then share with the world.

• 1:18:28Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:29Lewis Howes?

The, and you've created a lot of books, you know, you've got tons of books now. You guys can go get this book, The Ten X Rules. Crushing it. You got all these other books and programs and videos, thousands of videos you got. But you gotta take all of it with you. So no one has access to this information anymore.

• 1:18:43Grant Cardone?

  Oh, wow, wow, wow.

• 1:18:44Lewis Howes?

If you made it, then you gotta take it with you.

• 1:18:46Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:18:48Lewis Howes?

But you get to have a piece of paper and give to your family three things you know to be true. You know, you got an hour left, you said your goodbyes, you said this and that.

• 1:18:55Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:55Lewis Howes?

Write down three things that I know to be true that you can have and then share with the world. These are my lessons that I would give to the world.

• 1:19:02Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, awesome, man.

• 1:19:02Lewis Howes?

I want you to give them to the world, because there's only three things that I'm allowed to say. What would you say are your three truths?

• 1:19:09Grant Cardone?

  You can do anything.

• 1:19:10Lewis Howes?

  That'd be number one.

• 1:19:11Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 1:19:12Lewis Howes?

  You can do anything.

• 1:19:13Grant Cardone?

And more than you ever freaking dreamed, but everybody is underestimating what they can do.

• 1:19:19Lewis Howes?

  Okay.

• 1:19:21Grant Cardone?

  Number two.

• 1:19:24Grant Cardone?

  You can't fail. It's impossible.

• 1:19:29Grant Cardone?

It's just impossible. You can't even quit.

• 1:19:35Grant Cardone?

You can't quit. There's no way to quit.

• 1:19:39Grant Cardone?

And number three, you're not a body.

• 1:19:44Grant Cardone?

You know, you're not your physical unit.

• 1:19:49Lewis Howes?

  Love it.

• 1:19:50Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:50Lewis Howes?

Three great lessons, man, three truths. Where can people find you right now? Everywhere, man.

• 1:19:55Grant Cardone?

Well, if you're in Singapore, I'm coming to you.

• 1:19:57Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:58Grant Cardone?

If you're in Russia, I'm coming. So we're getting ready to do every country on the planet. So this idea that I'm gonna go meet seven billion people, I don't, you know, probably never do it, but we're gonna at least give it a try.

• 1:20:09Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:10Grant Cardone?

And until then, you know, wherever, you could see me driving a truck through Beverly Hills and Instagram.

• 1:20:17Lewis Howes?

Yeah, Grant Cardone on Instagram, Facebook.

• 1:20:19Grant Cardone?

  Grant Cardone everywhere.

• 1:20:20Lewis Howes?

  Grant Cardone. You've got a...

• 1:20:22Grant Cardone?

We finally hit a million subscribers on YouTube.

• 1:20:25Lewis Howes?

  Congrats.

• 1:20:26Grant Cardone?

  Finally did that.

• 1:20:26Lewis Howes?

I've got like almost half a million, I gotta step it up.

• 1:20:28Grant Cardone?

  So hard, dude.

• 1:20:29Lewis Howes?

  It's a lot, man.

• 1:20:30Grant Cardone?

  So hard, 12 years.

• 1:20:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:33Grant Cardone?

  12 years and 12.

• 1:20:34Lewis Howes?

12 years myself, yeah. I didn't start getting YouTube about three and a half years ago. Really going all in, but...

• 1:20:40Grant Cardone?

So hard. I mean, I didn't even ask, I didn't ask people to subscribe to the channel for

• 1:20:46Grant Cardone?

  eight years.

• 1:20:46Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:47Grant Cardone?

  Maybe nine.

• 1:20:50Lewis Howes?

  You got 10x Growth Con?

• 1:20:52Grant Cardone?

Yep, we're gonna do a 10x kinda version around the world and then and around the United States. But then we're gonna do our big, a big annual one. We're gonna do one annual, big one a year.

• 1:21:02Lewis Howes?

You haven't announced it yet, but they can go where to to get on the email list? Where can they go?

• 1:21:06Grant Cardone?

Yeah, go to, go to 10xgrowthcon.com. You can register there actually for a $20,000 seat. Cause this year we have two stupid parties planned. One, you won't know where you're going until you get there.

• 1:21:22Lewis Howes?

  It's like an experience.

• 1:21:23Grant Cardone?

Yeah, it's gonna be a trip, dude.

• 1:21:25Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 1:21:26Grant Cardone?

And it's gonna be confined to, the only seats that we're selling right now are the VIP seats. So it's only, there's three levels of VIPs and this one also be part of the show. These seats will be

• 1:21:40Lewis Howes?

  An experience.

• 1:21:40Grant Cardone?

Part of the show itself. And we got, we got some super talent that's gonna be, I mean, crazy, dude. Some of the names I'm going to try to get there this year.

• 1:21:51Lewis Howes?

  Massive.

• 1:21:52Grant Cardone?

Or like, people will be like.

• 1:21:54Lewis Howes?

Wow, he did it. Dude, 10x did.

• 1:21:56Grant Cardone?

  That's fucking ridiculous.

• 1:21:57Lewis Howes?

Right, right. Okay. So 10xgrowthcon.com, go get your tickets, pre-register.

• 1:22:01Grant Cardone?

Or just register to see if, even if you don't wanna buy one right now, register, see if you can win the, win the, uh, the $20,000.

• 1:22:07Lewis Howes?

  You're doing a giveaway.

• 1:22:08Grant Cardone?

  Banger.

• 1:22:08Lewis Howes?

  Oh wow, that's great.

• 1:22:09Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:10Lewis Howes?

Okay, so sign up there, 10x Growth Con.

• 1:22:11Grant Cardone?

That, that person will speak on stage, by the way.

• 1:22:13Lewis Howes?

Oh wow. That's big. That's big.

• 1:22:16Grant Cardone?

Yeah. If you can handle that many people.

• 1:22:19Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:22:20Grant Cardone?

Sometimes that's too much for people. They're like.

• 1:22:22Lewis Howes?

What else can, how else can we be a part? You got a cardonecapital.com?

• 1:22:26Grant Cardone?

Cardonecapital.com is probably gonna be the thing I'm gonna end up being known for. Like, this is kinda ridiculous, but the books and the programs and the sales and the university and Cardone University, it's probably Cardone Capital that I'm gonna end up being known for. So we're, we're literally, we've already had calls from hedge funds saying, hey man, how much money did you write?

• 1:22:45Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 1:22:45Grant Cardone?

  A bank called me.

• 1:22:48Grant Cardone?

You raised $200 million in 20 months.

• 1:22:52Grant Cardone?

He's like, nobody can do that. He's like, where are you advertising? I said, we don't advertise. You on CNBC? No, dude, we're on Instagram. What?

• 1:23:01Lewis Howes?

  Crazy.

• 1:23:02Grant Cardone?

He's like, what do you mean you're on Instagram? Where do I see your ad? I want to see what the ad looks like. I said, there's no ad, bro. We've never spent a penny. He's like, what is the commissions? What commissions are you paying out? We don't pay commissions. 100% of the 200 million is invested in real estate. There's not one penny taken out. So this is literally gonna, it's gonna be a disruptor, dude. It's gonna be, now, I think, I'm a little worried that somewhere along the line, the Blackstones and the Wells Fargos and the people that run the planet are gonna, the Deutsche Banks are gonna be like, hey, dude, we don't like this little guy. If I get big enough, there'll be some negative impact.

• 1:23:42Lewis Howes?

Well, just trying to buy you, maybe.

• 1:23:43Grant Cardone?

  Maybe, maybe.

• 1:23:44Lewis Howes?

Well, I'm invested in it. I love it. I love getting a check every month. So thanks for giving me a check every month.

  You got it.

• 1:23:50Lewis Howes?

Check it out, CardoneCapital.com. I love it, man. I love all your stuff.

• 1:23:54Grant Cardone?

  You're awesome, man.

• 1:23:55Lewis Howes?

I appreciate you. I acknowledge you for, I don't think you've shared a lot of this stuff publicly before in this interview. There's a lot of stuff you've shared about marriage, about your mom dying. I don't think you've gone there and really opened up about some of those stories.

• 1:24:07Grant Cardone?

Nobody's ever asked me, you know? So you're just good.

• 1:24:09Lewis Howes?

I care about, I care about all this stuff, man. So I.

• 1:24:13Grant Cardone?

Well, I care about you, bro. I just love watching you grow and I love watching you go through, you know, who you are and what you do. And I like watching all the guys in the space, you know, develop. And, you know, I've done so well. It's like, I'm so grateful and blessed. And I know that there's plenty for everybody.

• 1:24:31Lewis Howes?

  Of course.

• 1:24:31Grant Cardone?

And I know you know that.

• 1:24:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, of course.

• 1:24:33Grant Cardone?

And so you're one of those, the most generous people I know in the space.

• 1:24:36Lewis Howes?

  I appreciate it.

• 1:24:38Grant Cardone?

  Yeah, I really appreciate you.

• 1:24:39Lewis Howes?

Appreciate it. I acknowledge you for opening up, man. I don't think I've ever seen you cry. I actually have in Malibu one time.

• 1:24:44Grant Cardone?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:45Lewis Howes?

  Late night, you were like.

• 1:24:46Grant Cardone?

  I wasn't drinking.

• 1:24:47Lewis Howes?

Yeah, a little, you were like, open up about stuff. You had like one tear, but I acknowledge you, man. I appreciate it. Final question for you. What's your definition of greatness?

• 1:24:57Grant Cardone?

Ah, man, it's so personal to everybody, you know? For me, it's like, it's almost like a, it's like mercury.

• 1:25:05Grant Cardone?

It just keeps moving. You know, because I've become more and more aware of what I can do. So.

• 1:25:13Lewis Howes?

  It's fluid.

• 1:25:14Speaker 00

and at Grant Cardone over on your Instagram story as well. And as T.S. Eliot said, "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." You were born with so much frickin' potential inside of you. You have only scratched the surface of what is possible. You've only tapped into so little of what you're capable of, but you've got to be willing to push yourself farther and farther. Risk so much to see how far you can go.
