  Love the crown molding.

Does it have Verizon FiOS? You know, 100% fiber internet.

• 0:16Speaker 00

No FiOS, but it looks like it's got cable. Let's check out the kitchen.

• 0:19Speaker 01

No FiOS? Yeah, no thank you.

• 0:23Speaker 00

Don't you want to see the rest? Okay, bye-bye.

• 0:25Speaker 02

Get Verizon FiOS, because when you're moving, it's 100% or nothing.

• 1:06Speaker 04

Hey, listen, Joe, I'm wearing my, um, I forgot to mention to you, I'm wearing my sort of, they look like grown-up trousers, but they're secretly jogging.

• 1:14Speaker 05

Oh, these ones with the elasticated thing.

• 1:15Speaker 04

  They're secretly jogging bottoms, right?

• 1:16Speaker 05

  Yeah, they look like chinos.

• 1:18Speaker 04

Yeah, they look like chinos. What I love about them is they look like grown-up trousers.

• 1:21Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:22Speaker 04

  They're elasticated.

• 1:23Speaker 05

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 1:24Speaker 04

  They've even got, um.

• 1:26Speaker 05

Is that like a fake fly or something? Oh, drawstring.

• 1:29Speaker 04

They've got drawstring on them, right? And something that's genuinely annoying me about them

• 1:35Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:35Speaker 04

  is my back pocket.

• 1:37Speaker 05

  Right.

• 1:38Speaker 04

  is Velcro.

• 1:40Speaker 04

They've got Velcro on them as well.

• 1:42Speaker 05

So they are, yeah, they're for.

• 1:44Speaker 04

In one of my pockets, I've got a little zip section, just so I don't lose my keys or whatever. It's like, it's like a man that is just comes to terms with the fact that he's a baby.

• 1:54Speaker 05

Have you got one of those tags so that Claire can tell where you are on her phone?

• 1:57Speaker 04

  I've just got my phone.

• 1:58Speaker 05

If you get, if you get lost.

• 1:59Speaker 04

  Claire's got, Claire can, um.

• 2:01Speaker 05

  She can do it anyway.

• 2:01Speaker 04

She can see where I am.

• 2:02Speaker 05

Yeah, okay. Right, sure, she knows, yeah.

• 2:05Speaker 04

Because, and I, she has to do that, not to, not to try and find out where I am, because nine times out of 10, I am just with her. I'll be right next to her, and I'll go to her, can you find my phone for me? I'm just constantly saying that.

• 2:18Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 2:19Speaker 04

I had it in my hand a second ago. I don't know where it's got. You're gonna have to make it make a sound. Can you make it make a sound?

• 2:23Speaker 05

Okay, so she's kind of in charge of your phone. She's got two phones.

• 2:26Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 2:27Speaker 05

Right, yeah. Well, I mean, look, that's, um, yeah, I have some trousers like that as well, and they actually are great. I love elasticated waist.

• 2:35Speaker 04

It's the future. It's the future, especially, especially after Christmas.

• 2:39Speaker 05

Oh, goodness me, yes. What a feast. Oh, I've eaten so much. My goodness.

• 2:45Speaker 04

  Food away, did I?

• 2:46Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 2:47Speaker 04

Uh, anyway, should we start this podcast? We might as well.

• 3:03Speaker 04

Um, welcome to Joe and James Fact Up. Happy New Year. Each week we'll be bringing one another a fact that we deem interesting, and our policy is the more interesting, the more true it must be. We'll also dig into the weird things that you'd like to think are true, but don't want to do the research in a segment we're calling Fact Check. So we want you to send in your facts to us by emailing us, [email protected], WhatsApping us, 07822034330. And you can also, um, message us on our socials, just look for at Joe and James Pod. And, uh, don't forget that you can watch these episodes. If you're listening, you can watch these. I'm not sure if it adds anything to it, to be

• 3:44Speaker 04

honest with you. Um, but you can see full episodes on YouTube. Just search for Joe and James.

• 3:49Speaker 05

I don't know why people want to watch them, if I'm honest. It's just, it's a locked.

• 3:52Speaker 04

Makes more sense to like, listen to us on, in the car or like, cause if you're somewhere where you can watch something.

• 3:57Speaker 05

  Watch something else.

• 3:58Speaker 04

You could put like Blackadder on or something like that.

• 4:00Speaker 05

Something else. Why are you watching this?

• 4:01Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 4:04Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 4:04Speaker 04

  Put Partridge on or something.

• 4:06Speaker 05

  There's so much.

• 4:06Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 4:07Speaker 05

  Um. So much good stuff.

• 4:09Speaker 04

Head to the podcast description if you've already forgotten those details. Now, let's get fact up.

• 4:17Speaker 05

  Bloody hell, it's 2026 already.

• 4:18Speaker 04

  I can't believe it, Joe.

• 4:19Speaker 05

  I can't believe it.

• 4:20Speaker 04

We're over a quarter of the way through this century.

• 4:22Speaker 05

Don't say that, but I know.

• 4:24Speaker 04

And I remember it when it just started.

• 4:25Speaker 05

I know, I'm still treating it like we've really only just begun.

• 4:29Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 4:29Speaker 05

And I don't really know what we're supposed to be doing in this century, if I'm honest. I don't know what this century is for.

• 4:36Speaker 04

  No.

• 4:37Speaker 05

What actually is it for? What are we supposed to be doing?

• 4:38Speaker 04

Well, I'll talk to you a little bit about that later, Joe, because, um, obviously we bring each other a fact.

• 4:45Speaker 05

  Yes, we do.

• 4:46Speaker 04

And I'm going to be talking about 2026, dear. Do a little bit of research, what's going on in 2026.

• 4:51Speaker 05

  What's going to be happening?

• 4:51Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 4:52Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 4:53Speaker 04

And it's gonna, it's not like Mayan calendar shit.

• 4:56Speaker 05

You're not getting all Nostradamus, are you?

• 4:58Speaker 04

No, no, we're not, no. It's hopefully going to be positive.

• 5:01Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 5:02Speaker 04

Um, but apart from that, you got any New Year's resolutions?

• 5:06Speaker 05

Uh, any New Year's resolutions? Um, no, no, I, I, I, you were talking about doing Lent the other, the other week.

• 5:15Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah, but I don't think.

• 5:16Speaker 05

  You can do that.

• 5:17Speaker 04

I was thinking about, I was thinking about doing a New Year's resolution, but I just find them impossible to stick to. Like this year, I was gonna try and not be such a fucking legend.

• 5:28Speaker 05

  Well, that won't work.

• 5:29Speaker 04

Exactly, mate, exactly. We've got a message here, it's from anonymous, which is exciting. Hopefully this is sort of embarrassing or something. They got in touch, touch with us through the medium called WhatsApp. Um, and they say, James is, oh no.

• 5:49Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 5:51Speaker 04

I don't like the start of this, I'll be honest with you.

• 5:53Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 5:54Speaker 04

James inspired me to masturbate with lotion for the first time and it didn't go to plan. Why, hell, what, what could possibly go wrong? Um, I was about 14, 15, watching the newest episode of The Inbetweeners and Jay was wanking with lotion. There we go. I thought I'd.

• 6:13Speaker 05

Yeah, but he has, he said, Jay was wanking a legend, but James inspired me.

• 6:18Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 6:18Speaker 05

  So it is you.

• 6:20Speaker 04

Absolutely. Well, I am a fucking legend.

• 6:22Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 6:22Speaker 04

Uh, Jay was wanking with lotion and I thought, hmm, I've never actually tried that. I usually just raw dog it. So after the show, uh, straight after the show, after the show.

• 6:31Speaker 05

He finished the show, he was pausing.

• 6:34Speaker 04

I went up to the family bathroom, looked under the sink for a lotion, grabbed what I thought was lotion.

• 6:39Speaker 05

  Perfect.

• 6:40Speaker 04

And began to yank away. All was well until the smell of this lotion smelled familiar. It kind of reminded me of my sister for some reason.

• 6:50Speaker 05

  Fucking hell.

• 6:51Speaker 04

  Which I imagine really got.

• 6:53Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 6:53Speaker 04

  Really helped him out.

• 6:54Speaker 05

  That helped. Yeah.

• 6:57Speaker 04

At one, at which point I stopped doing stuff. Oh, that's weird. Uh, looked at the bottle.

• 7:02Speaker 05

  Stopped doing stuff.

• 7:04Speaker 04

  Looked at the bottle.

• 7:05Speaker 05

  I stopped doing stuff.

• 7:07Speaker 04

And it was actually a gradual fake tan that I was slathering away on my genitals. Slathering's not the right word. Slathering.

• 7:15Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 7:16Speaker 04

Specifically comes from the mouth, isn't it?

• 7:19Speaker 05

He's used slathering and, and we know.

• 7:21Speaker 04

  I would have said lathering.

• 7:22Speaker 05

The, the, that isn't the main problem that this guy faces at this moment.

• 7:27Speaker 04

Anyway, he says, uh, he says, anyway, I had an orange dick and hand for a week. It looked like a what's it. Thanks, James.

• 7:35Speaker 05

That is terrible. That's like something that like Catholics would do to stop you wanking, like that you like, cause it's like the, you know, you literally caught red or orange handed, isn't it?

• 7:44Speaker 04

  It's like. That's it.

• 7:45Speaker 05

  That it's like, well.

• 7:47Speaker 04

Yeah, they'd put like, um, that dye that they put in notes in banks.

• 7:51Speaker 05

Yeah, it is that, isn't it?

• 7:52Speaker 04

They put that like, what do you reckon like?

• 7:54Speaker 05

  And then it would.

• 7:57Speaker 04

In between your cock and balls.

• 8:00Speaker 04

  A dye pack.

• 8:00Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:01Speaker 04

So that if you go, if you do go and touch it.

• 8:03Speaker 05

  That's right. Yeah.

• 8:04Speaker 04

  The priest will know.

• 8:05Speaker 05

That's right. Yeah. The, the, that's, I think that's, that's right. Yeah. They, they, um.

• 8:10Speaker 04

He usually goes, I was gonna do that.

• 8:12Speaker 05

Yeah. And. And you say, I'm very sorry.

• 8:16Speaker 04

  Sorry.

• 8:17Speaker 05

He says, how sorry. And you say, well, what do you mean? He says, well, grab this.

• 8:22Speaker 04

Anyway, I'm sorry, um, anon. I'd like your name. I'd like to.

• 8:28Speaker 05

Well, he's used your name twice. He said, and I love that in the middle it's Jay, but by either end it's very much James.

• 8:34Speaker 04

I love how I'm getting blamed for this as well.

• 8:36Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah. Well, um.

• 8:38Speaker 04

Orange dick, nothing wrong with that.

• 8:40Speaker 05

You know, it was only, it was only yesterday that I was saying of the inbetweeners. I think the thing about the inbetweeners is that I think we can trust the public not to just directly copy what these people do. And apparently not true. They do. So they do just directly.

• 8:53Speaker 04

I like that he went what's it. He could have gone carrot. He could have helped himself out a little bit.

• 8:58Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 8:59Speaker 04

Do you know what I mean? Squash.

• 9:00Speaker 05

  Yeah, what's it?

• 9:02Speaker 04

It looked like a squash. He's gone with what's it.

• 9:04Speaker 05

Yeah, but it's, um, yeah, but I, I think I like what, I mean, that gives the, uh.

• 9:10Speaker 04

  I know what's it's. You're okay, mate.

• 9:14Speaker 05

It's got a little bit of, um, bit of a gurgle.

• 9:17Speaker 04

  Right.

• 9:18Speaker 05

It's all right. It's just something quite a bit high.

• 9:20Speaker 04

Um, if you have ever done something because of you, because you, and you were inspired by the inbetweeners.

• 9:27Speaker 05

  Don't be inspired by it.

• 9:28Speaker 04

  Well, hang on a minute.

• 9:29Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:31Speaker 04

Let us know. If you've done anything because you saw us on the inbetweeners do it.

• 9:35Speaker 05

  That's a kind of, I just, I don't know.

• 9:37Speaker 04

  Well, we can't be blamed.

• 9:40Speaker 05

I don't want to hear about shits down flumes and stuff.

• 9:42Speaker 04

Well, I do. So let us know. Get in touch. Get in touch. Joe and James. Uh, uh, uh, hello at joeandjamespod.com. Get in touch with us.

  Joe and James, fucked up!

• 11:36Speaker 04

Joe, have you got a little fact for me?

• 11:38Speaker 05

I do. So, um, my, the, uh...

• 11:44Speaker 05

The fact I've got is that, um, there is a... So the sun... Before we get into this, do you want to just... Because it we're gonna do a three episode... Oh, yeah, sorry, yeah, okay.

• 11:58Speaker 04

  Have you written it down?

• 11:59Speaker 05

No, but I know what it is. It's sort of there, mate.

• 12:01Speaker 04

Do you know what it is?

• 12:02Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 12:02Speaker 04

  Is it, is it?

• 12:03Speaker 05

  Most of it is.

• 12:06Speaker 05

Well, the contestants run upstairs and they get a clue and they... Not the game show, yeah, yeah, yeah. I come in here and I find that this is the product of... Well, don't... Could you read it out to me? Just read it out. Imagine a cross between finders keepers and upstairs downstairs. No, was it?

• 12:20Speaker 04

  Knows to...

• 12:21Speaker 05

A nice house party. You just imagined upstairs down...

• 12:23Speaker 04

  Tell your...

• 12:23Speaker 05

  Tell your...

• 12:24Speaker 04

  Tell your...

• 12:24Speaker 05

Tell your house party. You just imagined upstairs downstairs. And you go and show devised and noted by David Brent. David, I just don't understand this.

• 12:32Speaker 04

  Well.

• 12:32Speaker 05

  With the contestants.

• 12:33Speaker 04

  Let's get a clue.

• 12:33Speaker 05

  No, not the game show.

• 12:34Speaker 04

Yeah. Contestants get a clue and then they run upstairs.

• 12:37Speaker 05

  It's all good.

• 12:38Speaker 04

  Right.

• 12:38Speaker 05

  All that show's good.

• 12:39Speaker 04

Joe, introduce, introduce what we're doing.

• 12:41Speaker 05

So what we're doing, James, is we're doing some facts about new year, theme of new year.

• 12:48Speaker 04

It says here, it's a new year of truth telling and fact finding. So we thought we'd bring some.

• 12:52Speaker 05

That is what it says. Actually, yeah, I thought, I thought you meant to just read that out. Yeah. It's a new, well, well, it's a new year of truth telling and fact finding, and we thought we'd bring some new year's facts.

• 13:02Speaker 04

  Brilliant. Right.

• 13:04Speaker 05

So one thing that. Now, interestingly, one thing that happens in the.

• 13:12Speaker 04

Gotta start writing these down, Joe.

• 13:13Speaker 05

  No, no, it's so.

• 13:16Speaker 05

  On the third of January.

• 13:18Speaker 04

My true love gave to me.

• 13:20Speaker 05

  The, the sun.

• 13:23Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 13:24Speaker 05

  And the earth.

• 13:25Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 13:27Speaker 05

It's the closest the earth gets to the sun. The sun, the sun and the earth are not always the same distance apart.

• 13:32Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's elliptical, isn't it?

• 13:34Speaker 05

It's an elliptical orbit and on the third of January, it's called perihelion. And it's the closest that the earth ever gets to the sun. And it's quite a lot, like it's some, um.

• 13:51Speaker 04

On what, on what day? Sorry, the fifth?

• 13:52Speaker 05

  Third of January.

• 13:53Speaker 04

  The third of January.

• 13:54Speaker 05

  January.

• 13:54Speaker 04

It's interesting. There's lots of stuff going on.

• 13:56Speaker 05

With three million miles closer on at perihelion than at aphelion, which is where we're furthest away.

• 14:02Speaker 04

  Right.

• 14:03Speaker 05

Which is quite significant. I think it's.

• 14:05Speaker 04

  Huge.

• 14:05Speaker 05

I think it's five percent of the average. So it's, it's quite big. Like, so we're, and, um. Just thought it was interesting because it's like.

• 14:12Speaker 04

That is interesting. There's lots of stuff.

• 14:14Speaker 05

But it's no colder or hotter.

• 14:15Speaker 04

No. Which is weird. You'd think it would be.

• 14:18Speaker 05

It's quite big. I think, let me just tell you, I think it's five.

• 14:21Speaker 04

  Is that why places like?

• 14:22Speaker 05

Three percent. It's three. So it's three percent. So the, so it's not, it's not some notional distance. Like, that feels like a significant enough proportion. Like, if I was near to the sun.

• 14:31Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 14:31Speaker 05

If there was a massive fire.

• 14:33Speaker 04

  Right.

• 14:34Speaker 05

And I was a hundred meters away.

• 14:36Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 14:36Speaker 05

And I got three meters closer. I just think I would get a bit hotter. That feels like a fairly, a relatively big proportion of that, but.

• 14:43Speaker 04

Well, we're in the northern hemisphere, hemisphere.

• 14:46Speaker 05

  Hemisphere.

• 14:48Speaker 04

  Northern Hemispher.

• 14:49Speaker 05

  Northern Hemispher.

• 14:51Speaker 04

We're um, we're, we're leaning away from the sun at that point, aren't we?

• 14:55Speaker 05

  We are.

• 14:55Speaker 04

Right. But is that why it is so hot in Australia?

• 15:00Speaker 05

  Yeah, that's right.

• 15:01Speaker 04

  And like South Africa.

• 15:02Speaker 05

  So you get, yeah.

• 15:02Speaker 04

Because Australia, what, what's closer to the equator, Britain or Australia? Because Australia's real, when I think of it.

• 15:10Speaker 05

Well, it depends with part of Australia. Australia's so big. The North, North Australia is, is sort of tropical or subtropical.

• 15:15Speaker 04

Yeah, all right. Well, think about Sydney or, or Adelaide.

• 15:17Speaker 05

Yeah, well, so Sydney and Adelaide are close to the equator, but someone like New Zealand is, um, is for about the same distance. So New Zealand, the reason that New Zealand's climate is similar to Britain.

• 15:29Speaker 04

  Right.

• 15:30Speaker 05

Is because it's about the same distance away from the equator. Uh, and it's.

• 15:36Speaker 04

I thought that Australia was more, because they literally call it down under.

• 15:40Speaker 05

Yeah, but it's not that far down.

• 15:42Speaker 04

No, it's not that far down in the end, is it? But obviously they, their summer's in the winter. So they get their summer in the winter.

• 15:49Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 15:49Speaker 04

Right. And also their summer happens at the same time that we're a bit closer to the sun as well. That's why it's fucking hot.

• 15:56Speaker 05

  There, that's why it's, exactly.

• 16:00Speaker 04

And they're near the equator. God help them.

• 16:03Speaker 05

  It's really hot over there.

• 16:04Speaker 04

It's so warm. But there's loads of stuff that happens to, like the.

• 16:08Speaker 05

And they have Christmas in the summer.

• 16:10Speaker 04

  Yeah, it's weird, man.

• 16:11Speaker 05

  Madness.

• 16:11Speaker 04

The whole of, the whole of Christmas is built around the sun.

• 16:16Speaker 04

The whole of Christmas is built around, I think it, I think it's the 23rd and 24th is when the sun only gets to a certain point in the sky. And then in the 25th, it starts getting higher up in the sky.

• 16:32Speaker 05

You're talking about the, um, the winter solstice, right? The, um, what do you think is the 21st? But I think, but I'm sure that they, that there will be something about, I, I'm, the, the sol, this winter solstice and the summer solstice.

• 16:43Speaker 04

Right. Well, I think it starts on the 21st and it lasts for a couple of days where the sun sort of stays in the same place in the sky.

• 16:48Speaker 05

  Right.

• 16:49Speaker 04

And then when it gets to the 25th, that's when it starts going, where the sun, where the sun goes, all right, we might as well move towards summer now.

• 16:56Speaker 05

It kind of goes, I'm going to crack on.

• 16:57Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 16:57Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 16:58Speaker 04

And that's why the birth of the sun.

• 17:02Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 17:02Speaker 04

All this thing, all this sort of stuff happens on the 25th. It's, it's, um, I think the 25th is the longest day of winter. I think they get, I think they get, listen, shut up.

• 17:16Speaker 04

I'm gonna make sense, I don't, I need you to stop.

• 17:18Speaker 05

  The longest day of winter.

• 17:19Speaker 04

Yeah, right, so, so the days get shorter and shorter and shorter and shorter, then they stay the same for a, for a couple of days, I think. Right, I don't know for sure, right?

• 17:30Speaker 05

And then you get the longest one.

• 17:33Speaker 04

  Right, no, that doesn't make.

• 17:34Speaker 05

Extremely short ones, you get a really long one.

• 17:37Speaker 04

  Yeah, you're right.

• 17:39Speaker 04

It doesn't make sense, does it?

• 17:40Speaker 05

It's, no, I think, I think, uh, uh, yeah.

• 17:44Speaker 04

There's something about the sun over Christmas.

• 17:46Speaker 05

  There's something about the sun.

• 17:46Speaker 04

Listen, I was trying to fucking help you out.

• 17:48Speaker 05

No, I know, I know, I know, I know, look, perihelion.

• 17:52Speaker 04

  Yeah, this nonsense.

• 17:52Speaker 05

  Three million miles closer.

• 17:54Speaker 04

I don't even know what this perihelion is.

• 17:57Speaker 05

Perihelion is the closest the earth gets to the sun on its elliptical orbit.

• 18:03Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 18:03Speaker 05

Aphelion is the furthest away it gets. And the difference between those two is three million miles, which is actually a not insignificant proportion of the average distance between the two heavenly bodies. And it surprises me that it doesn't make more of a difference, but apparently it doesn't.

• 18:26Speaker 04

Can I give you, can I chuck on some, um, what do they call it when you go around the sun?

• 18:33Speaker 04

  What's that called? Solar?

• 18:34Speaker 05

  Orbit.

• 18:35Speaker 04

Orbit, yeah, can I give you some orbit facts?

• 18:37Speaker 05

  Yeah, yes, please.

• 18:38Speaker 04

Um, uh, so Pluto, I think it's 256 years it takes it to orbit the sun.

• 18:43Speaker 05

Yeah, well, are we even still talking about Pluto? It's sort of been cancelled, isn't it?

• 18:45Speaker 04

Well, this is the thing, this is the thing, Pluto got cancelled, Pluto, Pluto got me tooed, like really early, he was the first one to get me tooed. Straight away, they got rid of Pluto, they weren't having it anymore, right?

• 18:56Speaker 05

Yeah, they were like, he's really, he's really handsy.

• 18:59Speaker 04

I would just like to say, fair enough, he's let us all down, right? So, he's given us all a bad name, so he got me tooed first, they got rid of him, how, and because, because it was like, oh, he's tiny and he's so out of the way.

• 19:10Speaker 05

Well, also, he was, he was, he was taken to be not round enough.

• 19:14Speaker 04

  No, he is definitely round.

• 19:16Speaker 05

Wasn't it like, they were like, well, if you're calling that a planet, everything's a fucking planet.

• 19:20Speaker 04

  Well, there's.

• 19:21Speaker 05

  I think it was that.

• 19:21Speaker 04

  There is bigger things. So.

• 19:24Speaker 05

There's a load of stuff that.

• 19:25Speaker 04

Here you go. Here you go. See, this is, this is the criteria you need for a planet. It needs to be spherical, which Pluto, Pluto is. It needs to, it needs to ha- hold its own gravity so it becomes a circle, right? Which Pluto is, right? It needs to go round, no, it doesn't need to go around something. One of the things is, is that it needs to be in its orbit. It needs to be the biggest thing. If there's a bigger thing in the same orbit as that thing, that thing gets classed as a, as a.

• 19:52Speaker 05

And Pluto is more like a moon or a satellite.

• 19:54Speaker 04

Pluto's got loads of sh- it's right in the Kuiper belt, right? And there's things in that that are bigger than Pluto.

• 20:00Speaker 05

Right, okay. So it's just like.

• 20:02Speaker 04

  But.

• 20:02Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 20:03Speaker 04

Here's this, this is gonna blow your socks off.

• 20:05Speaker 05

  Go on.

• 20:05Speaker 04

I hope your shoes are tied because, right, Pluto, it takes two, is it two hundred and fifty six years? I think it might be about that.

• 20:14Speaker 05

Is this one of these things where like a, a, a year's longer than a day or something? Or no? Two hundred and forty eight years.

• 20:19Speaker 04

Two hundred and forty eight. Two hundred and forty eight. Yeah, yeah. No, but sometimes they are. A, a day is how long.

• 20:24Speaker 05

A day can be longer than a year for, for some things. It's.

• 20:27Speaker 04

Right, so at some point, so since the.

• 20:32Speaker 05

  Dawn of time.

• 20:32Speaker 04

Since the discovery of Pluto, it's only ever had one year.

• 20:36Speaker 05

Had one year and then they were like.

• 20:38Speaker 04

No, because we only, we only discovered it about two hundred and fifty years ago.

• 20:41Speaker 05

Oh, I see. Oh, that's amazing. Okay, I do like that actually. Yeah, that's good.

• 20:45Speaker 04

And here's another fact for you. Because the ellipsis, it's not a perfect circle, at certain points, it comes closer to the sun than Neptune.

• 20:55Speaker 05

This I did know. Yeah, Neptune is sometimes the furthest.

• 20:59Speaker 04

Yeah. But Neptune's fine. He's got away with it.

• 21:03Speaker 05

Well, Neptune, I think it doesn't have the problem of not being the biggest body in its orbit or whatever.

• 21:08Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 21:08Speaker 05

Neptune's, you know, the daddy of its orbit, whereas Pluto appears to be just some little squirt.

• 21:14Speaker 04

Because that's the thing, we've got other stuff just a bit.

• 21:16Speaker 05

Trying to make a name for himself, but actually, even the main member of the gang.

• 21:19Speaker 04

Yeah, just, there's stuff that's just a bit further out, that's even bigger than Pluto. And, and honestly, it was laziness, right? It was just like, well, if we could, if we, if we class Pluto as a planet, we're gonna have to class all these other things as a planet and come up with names and shit. So should we just?

• 21:35Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 21:35Speaker 04

Should we just say it's not a planet anymore?

• 21:36Speaker 05

Yeah, it's bad. It's bad. Yeah, that is bad, actually. They should be.

• 21:40Speaker 04

We're just like, oh, we'll just stick it to seven or whatever it is now.

• 21:43Speaker 05

Yeah, they feel they can't. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus. Neptune. Uranus. Uranus. Neptune. So there's only eight now. Yeah. Yeah, and, and, um, what I think is a, I think it's a fucking shame. There's some fa- but, yeah, but there's some facts for you, actual facts. And people say we just talk bollocks on this podcast. We just fact their brains out. That was amazing. And a lot of that, we were using good words. You said ellipsis, I said perihelion. Couldn't, couldn't think of the word orbit. That let me down a little bit. No, and what's, there was one reason where you couldn't think of the word harbour, which was, that was, uh, which I think is nuts, but, but, you know. Yeah.

• 22:29Speaker 05

But the thing is, perihelion. Anyway, Jude, uh, Jude. Jude. Yeah, just, um, just James' son. That's right. Well, look, it's all right. Look, we're all whatever. I mean, like, it's, um. I'm gonna be red now. I don't know. That's, that's embarrassed me. Nah, listen, it's, it's, I, it's lovely. I think it's lovely. Anyway, Joe. Thanks, Hannah. That was a good.

• 22:55Speaker 05

That was a good fact. Thank you. No, but that is so. I don't know if it was. I thought that was, it seems like a long way. And the fact that that makes no difference. I love that. I love that. That, on the sixth, uh, the third of January, is it? Third of January. Third of January, we are three million miles closer to the sun, to the moon, than we usually are. To the sun. And yet, and the, the, uh, just the simple tilt of the earth's axis. Yeah. With no difference in distance, makes a much bigger difference to, um, so Eng- England and Australia, because of the tilt of the earth's axis, we're the, we're always the same distance from the sun, because we're on the same fucking planet. But Australia is significantly hotter than England. We're just leaning away a little bit.

• 23:36Speaker 05

Yeah. And, and yeah, so what you could say is there's a point where England is three million miles closer to the sun than Australia was at another time of the year. Right. But England is still colder than, so Australia, three million mile, Australia, three million miles further away, is still hotter than England in perihelion. Right. Which is weird. Yeah. How close do you have to get before you start feeling the heat? Might have to put subtitles on that one. It's just weird. How close? Should we just get even closer then? It makes no difference.

• 24:10Speaker 04

  Well.

• 24:10Speaker 05

It's got to heat up eventually.

• 24:12Speaker 04

I think we do have to move away a little bit because the earth's getting warmer.

• 24:16Speaker 05

Is that what we've got to do? Move the earth a bit further away?

• 24:18Speaker 04

People have suggested it. Mad scientists.

• 24:21Speaker 05

  Oh, God.

• 24:21Speaker 04

People like Dr. Farnsworth from Futurama have suggested.

• 24:26Speaker 05

Oh, okay. Move the earth a bit further away?

• 24:28Speaker 04

Yeah. I don't know if he, I don't know if that is an episode in Futurama. I'm just talking about those kind of mad scientists.

• 24:37Speaker 04

Um, right. It is time for fact check, Joe. This is the part of the podcast where you send us something that feels like a fact and you'd like us to confirm it. We'll decide whether it's fact or fact up. So we'll be reading a fact or a question that you'd like us to get to the bottom of. And then we're going to have a good think during the break. And when we come back, we'll let you know how true it feels to us. And then decide whether it passes our fact check.

• 25:02Speaker 05

Okay, so this week's fact check comes from Beth. She's sent us a voice note.

• 25:07Speaker 04

  Love it.

• 25:09Speaker 07

Hi, Joe and James. It's Beth from St. Neat's. I want to know if it's true that there is a type of shrimp that can break the sound barrier.

• 25:15Speaker 04

There is tru-, that is true. Oh, well, we'll come back. We'll go for a break and we'll come back.

• 25:28Speaker 03

• 27:08Speaker 04

Right, welcome back to Joe and James. Right, okay. Welcome back to Joe and James. Joe and James Fucked Up. We were just fact-checking on behalf of Beth, who wanted to know if there's a type of shrimp that can break the sound barrier. And this is true. This is true, there's this shrimp that can like box, like sneeze, sneeze snails. Sneeze snails? Sneeze. On the sneeze snore? No sneeze. Sea snails, right? That's you. Sneeze. And, and like crabs and stuff like that. Sneeze snails. Honestly, like I've seen, I've had like Instagram videos, it comes up a lot for me. They have a, like this, this guy has these, I don't know. So it's not the whole shrimp, it's the punch? It's the punch, yeah, yeah. They punch, I wanna say. Amazing, that didn't break it, to be fair.

• 27:53Speaker 04

I wanna say they're called something like. Yeah. And I wanna say something else, because I don't know whether this might offend people. I feel like they're called something like karate shrimp or something like that. Yeah, they might be. I mean. Or boxer shrimp or something, and. What are they punching? Snails. Sneeze snails, right?

• 28:15Speaker 05

  Snails?

• 28:16Speaker 04

  Yeah, to smash the-

• 28:17Speaker 05

So ironic, that snail's not getting out of the fucking way, is it?

• 28:19Speaker 04

To smash the, smash the shell. Or crabs, they just crush their shells. Like, they're so strong. Like, if you put your fe- if you put your hand in it, it would like, snap your finger off or whatever.

• 28:32Speaker 05

They're a bunch of these snails.

• 28:35Speaker 04

  Sea snails.

• 28:36Speaker 05

Sea snails, yeah, no, I just, it's such a funny, such a mismatch, isn't it?

• 28:40Speaker 04

  But it's-

• 28:41Speaker 05

  Snails.

• 28:42Speaker 04

But, but they're so fast, and when you watch these Instagram videos, they're, they're in a tank, right? And they just feed them, they'll, they'll drop like a little crab or something in front of them, and they'll just go and they make this noise.

• 28:54Speaker 05

When you said they're in a tank, I thought you meant they, like a Russian tank.

• 28:58Speaker 04

  No.

• 28:59Speaker 05

  No.

• 28:59Speaker 04

  A tiger, a panzer.

• 29:00Speaker 05

  They're in a panzer.

• 29:01Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 29:01Speaker 05

  They're in a panzer.

• 29:04Speaker 04

People are throwing sticky bombs at them. No, that, no, that, that, that is true. That is true, Beth. And I'll tell you what, we will throw it over to Queen Lily May, but we don't, I'm not even throwing it to you, Jo.

• 29:15Speaker 05

  You know it's true.

• 29:16Speaker 04

Because it is true. That is, that is fact. Beth, uh, Lily May.

• 29:21Speaker 09

  Who cares?

• 29:24Speaker 09

  Who gives a shit?

• 29:27Speaker 04

  Jude, hit me with it.

• 29:30Speaker 09

  So, from my research, no.

• 29:33Speaker 05

  Oh, Lily May, fuck off.

• 29:35Speaker 04

  Oh, what?

• 29:36Speaker 05

  Well, go on, go on.

• 29:38Speaker 09

A shrimp cannot break the sound barrier, but the pistol shrimp can create a cavation bubble that when it collapses, produces a sound that exceeds 200 decibels and generates a momentary pressure of around 4,400 degrees. This is not the same as the sound barrier, uh, which is a physical object faster than the speed of sound.

• 30:01Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 30:02Speaker 09

But it is a sonic phenomenon. And yes, there is something called the boxer. It's a nickname, though, for a shrimp.

• 30:07Speaker 05

  So it's the pistol shrimp?

• 30:09Speaker 09

  It's the pistol shrimp.

• 30:10Speaker 05

And is it that same as the boxer shrimp?

• 30:11Speaker 09

It's not the same as a boxer shrimp.

• 30:13Speaker 05

Um, and, and, and what does it do?

• 30:16Speaker 04

  I don't, I don't want to do this anymore.

• 30:17Speaker 09

Sorry, the box, the boxer shrimp is also known as the banded coral shrimp.

• 30:22Speaker 04

Right. I don't want to do this anymore. I thought I would have put my house on that being true.

• 30:26Speaker 05

Yeah, it sounded true to me and.

• 30:28Speaker 04

  I've seen it.

• 30:29Speaker 09

  Well, this is why.

• 30:30Speaker 04

  They poached so fast.

• 30:32Speaker 09

This is why coming to me is sometimes problematic because of what's happened.

• 30:36Speaker 04

Sort of taking the wind out of my sails. I was so excited talking about the sneeze now.

• 30:40Speaker 05

So, Alan, so just tell me one time what it does, the pistol shroom. So it does a.

• 30:44Speaker 09

It creates a bubble that when it collapses.

• 30:48Speaker 05

  Can gen- generates.

• 30:49Speaker 09

  It generates a sound.

• 30:51Speaker 05

  This amazing pressure.

• 30:52Speaker 04

Wow. I mean, that's still fascinating.

• 30:54Speaker 05

  It is still fascinating.

• 30:54Speaker 04

That's still enough to to make me happy, to be honest with you. If there's something that you'd like us to fact check, head to our episode's description for all the ways to get in touch.

• 31:04Speaker 05

What facts have you got for us, James?

• 31:05Speaker 04

I'm glad you asked, Joe. Thank you very much.

• 31:07Speaker 05

  Go on.

• 31:08Speaker 04

So it's 2026 and I wanted to know what sort of scientific or interesting breakthroughs have we got to look forward to this year?

• 31:19Speaker 05

  Good. Yeah, good idea.

• 31:20Speaker 04

Now, I'm going to be honest. I had to, I did want to do that, but it was literally, and I know you hate this.

• 31:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 31:30Speaker 04

  Everything was AI.

• 31:31Speaker 05

Yeah, so it will be AI.

• 31:32Speaker 04

Everything was just sort of like, oh, we're going to find a cure for this because AI will find it for us. And I was like, oh, Joe hates all that. So I've had to sort of.

• 31:40Speaker 05

I mean, I don't, I don't mind the AI if it's curing cancer. I just don't like it when it's sort of being weird and like. Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't really like the chatting. I don't think we should be chatting with it. It's not a person.

• 31:57Speaker 04

  Conversing with it, yeah.

• 31:58Speaker 05

  It's not a person.

• 31:59Speaker 04

I don't even know how to do that.

• 32:00Speaker 05

Why are they saying it's a person when it's not? I don't like, why would they say that?

• 32:03Speaker 04

I watched, I watched, there's a guy on YouTube who makes really, really great YouTube videos. You would really like him, by the way. He's called Eddie Burbank.

• 32:10Speaker 05

  Right, okay.

• 32:11Speaker 04

He, and he, he brings out, like, it takes him a couple of months to do each of his, he's like a sort of American Louis Theroux sort of.

• 32:21Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 32:22Speaker 04

And he decided, he decided to live, I think, for a month.

• 32:29Speaker 04

  Without his, without his phone.

• 32:32Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 32:33Speaker 04

So he then went and got a Walkman and looked up, he could still use the P C.

• 32:38Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 32:38Speaker 04

So he would look up a bus time, like, so he couldn't order an Uber and stuff like that.

• 32:42Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 32:42Speaker 04

But he would look up the bus times and print things out.

• 32:44Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 32:44Speaker 04

And then go and wait on a street corner and wait for his mate. And he was just like, I sort of don't want to go back.

• 32:50Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 32:51Speaker 04

To like, I really much enjoy this. I feel like, I feel like I'm connected. Ironically, I feel like I'm more connected.

• 32:57Speaker 05

I believe that one of the reasons people like holidays is literally just that they're not on their phone at the time.

• 33:01Speaker 04

  Absolutely, yeah.

• 33:03Speaker 05

Like, just because you're, you're not gonna be, because your habits are changing, you're not like, I.

• 33:08Speaker 04

He did a thing recently about that, about exactly what you were just saying, how he was worried that people are befriending Chat G P T.

• 33:19Speaker 05

  They definitely are.

• 33:20Speaker 04

And, and, because they're so agreeable and agree with everything that you say. So he was, for an experiment for a week.

• 33:27Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 33:28Speaker 04

He was just like, I'm gonna talk to Chat G P T and I'm, I'm gonna ask it what I should be doing and whether what, whether this is a good idea.

• 33:37Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 33:37Speaker 04

  And see what it says.

• 33:38Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 33:39Speaker 04

So he decided, uh, he was talking to Chat G P T and he was like, I was born in nineteen ninety six and my mum told me that I was the most intelligent baby, uh, of, that was born in that year. Uh, do you think that's true? And Chat G P T is like, absolutely. I could, I mean, if you believe that's true, then it must be true.

• 33:57Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 33:57Speaker 04

He was like, well, my friends are telling me that that couldn't be true and I'd like to, I'd like to prove to them that that, that it's true.

• 34:03Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 34:04Speaker 04

Uh, uh, the Chat G P T, like, agrees with everything that he says, but then also suggests stuff.

• 34:09Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 34:10Speaker 04

And that's what he thought was really dangerous.

• 34:11Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 34:12Speaker 04

Because if you're really getting into like, having a bit of an, a, a sort of unhealthy relationship with this thing.

• 34:19Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 34:19Speaker 04

And they're going, oh, should you try this? And Chat G P T was like saying things.

• 34:22Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 34:23Speaker 04

At one point, um, Chat G P T told him to, um, only eat baby food to try and, um, get some memories back because it's connected to taste and smell and stuff like that.

• 34:34Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 34:35Speaker 04

To get the synaps- synapses or whatever it's called.

• 34:38Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 34:38Speaker 04

Then he said, uh. He, um, there was a, he said, oh, I'm worried that my friends are trying to sabotage my research. And so ChatGPT went, I'll find, I think, I think you should leave right now. If you, if you think you're in danger. I think you should leave. Um, I'll find like some places on Airbnb, da, da, da, da, and you can book. So like, he books a, a little caravan in the middle of the desert. He's, he lives in California, this guy.

• 35:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 35:10Speaker 04

Without telling any of his friends or his girlfriend, he just left because he was just listening to ChatGPT and doing everything. At one point, it gets to a point where ChatGPT tells him that he needs to cover everything in tin foil, like literally.

• 35:24Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. No, I mean, I, yeah.

• 35:28Speaker 04

But that's exactly like what you, but you should watch the.

• 35:30Speaker 05

What, what bothers me about it is that.

• 35:33Speaker 04

  Sorry, Joe.

• 35:34Speaker 05

No, no, it's, it's, um, you're right. Well, look, this, this is kind of proves my point. You have, you have a body you can suffer. You, you can be at risk. You can be in harm's way. ChatGPT can't. And because of that, I feel like it doesn't really have a dog in the fight when it gives advice. Like this isn't. If a human being is giving you advice, then to some extent they're thinking, well, what would happen if I was in that situation and it went wrong? I feel like ChatGPT lives in a world without risk to itself.

• 36:06Speaker 04

Absolutely, yeah. It's just constantly going, yeah, if you think that's a good idea.

• 36:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 36:10Speaker 04

I think so too. I think you're, like ChatGPT just is always telling you how right you are.

• 36:15Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 36:16Speaker 04

Which is, which could send people insane, right?

• 36:18Speaker 05

I think it definitely would send you insane.

• 36:20Speaker 04

There was a bit where he was in this caravan in the desert where a bin lorry turned up.

• 36:25Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 36:25Speaker 04

And he took a picture of the bin lorry and sent it to ChatGPT and was just like, you know, it's a bit of a weird time that this bin lorry has turned up and you know, I'm quite paranoid about people trying to destroy my work. And ChatGPT is like, hmm, yeah, no, that is weird. Um, maybe it's time to move on again. Like, and he goes to another place, like ChatGPT.

• 36:44Speaker 05

I mean, I think what, what depresses me is that like people prefer talking to this thing than talking to each other. That feels like an unbelievably depressing indictment of like, like what, like, like, I think, I, I actually.

• 36:58Speaker 05

I wrote a script with Hannah once, didn't go anywhere, but it was about sex bots. And Hannah was like, what happened in the future is that like, human women won't be able to have relationships anymore because all men will just be like fucking like.

• 37:08Speaker 04

Well, this is it. Yeah, right. So.

• 37:11Speaker 05

And but but yeah, but what was weird is that that in a way, I'm sure will happen.

• 37:18Speaker 04

  Yeah, no, it definitely will.

• 37:19Speaker 05

But what happened first that people were like, well, the thing humans are really shit at isn't sex, it's just conversation. So it's, I mean, it's so fucking depressing. I can't believe the robots got better at conversation before they got better at sex. It's unbelievable. It's like, I thought we were quite good at conversation. No, no, that's one of the things you're shit at.

• 37:34Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 37:35Speaker 05

No, you're shit at that. No, we'll we'll get that first and we'll do the sex later, which is maybe a bit harder.

• 37:39Speaker 04

But it's it's interesting you wrote, because my, and I've spoke about this before.

• 37:43Speaker 05

Yeah, the sex will come later.

• 37:45Speaker 04

I've spoken about this before, actually, but my mate, when I was around my mates, um. I think this was like around the time we were making the first series of The Inbetweeners, actually. So I was a teenager, I was around my mate's house, we were watching TV and we was watching this documentary about, um, blokes that buy those hyper realistic sex dolls.

• 38:04Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 38:04Speaker 04

  That look like people.

• 38:05Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 38:06Speaker 04

And, um, and we were watching this guy and and the sex doll had to be sent back for maintenance. Because they've been worn out of it, right?

• 38:13Speaker 05

Which bits have been worn out?

• 38:14Speaker 04

They're so expensive as well, like, like $10,000 or something like that, this guy had spent on this doll. And, um, he's putting a, putting this doll in a box and he's talking to her and he's like, it's okay, we'll be together again soon. It won't be long. And I turned to my mate, Matt, and I was like, this is fucking weird, wouldn't it? Would you do, would you? Is it like, would you get one of these dolls, da, da, da? And he went, no, no, I wouldn't do it. And I was like, that's the correct answer. That's the normal person's answer. He went, because I would just, I would just get into it too much. He was like, it just makes sense to me. I'm watching this guy. And he had a girlfriend and everything.

• 38:49Speaker 05

Yeah, he has, yeah, he has the kind of, he's like, I better not try heroin because, yeah. And he had a girlfriend. Well, I mean.

• 38:56Speaker 04

I've got to do my fact, Joe. I've got to do my fact.

• 38:58Speaker 05

But is she your maintenance or, I mean, that's.

• 39:01Speaker 04

I've got to do my fact. I've tried to avoid the AI thing. Because all of it is AI, honestly.

• 39:06Speaker 05

It will be AI, it's always gonna be. It's probably fucking written by AI.

• 39:09Speaker 04

Number one. Here, uh, here, now, I've asked for ones that are a bit out there.

• 39:15Speaker 05

  Yeah, go on.

• 39:16Speaker 04

So they might not happen in 2026.

• 39:18Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 39:19Speaker 04

  Don't hold it against me.

• 39:19Speaker 05

  That's all right.

• 39:20Speaker 04

  But, but likely.

• 39:22Speaker 05

I do. Things that might happen in 2026.

• 39:24Speaker 04

Things that might definitely happen in 2026, but they're.

• 39:26Speaker 05

  Definitely, maybe.

• 39:27Speaker 04

  Lab-grown human organs for transplant.

• 39:29Speaker 05

  Okay. Yeah, yeah.

• 39:31Speaker 04

  Um.

• 39:31Speaker 05

  Keep talking.

• 39:33Speaker 04

  The tech exists.

• 39:33Speaker 05

  My mouth watering.

• 39:34Speaker 04

The tech exists in an early form now, but if successful by 2026, it could end organ donor waiting lists. Uh, Japan and the US are already running partial organoid trials.

• 39:48Speaker 05

  Wow.

• 39:49Speaker 04

Probability, low to medium, it says there.

• 39:51Speaker 05

  Okay, well.

• 39:53Speaker 04

  Um, you could get.

• 39:54Speaker 05

So it's lab-grown, so we, so we know, so we don't have to worry about having our donor cards anymore. And like someone gets your eyeballs or something, it's, uh, because they'll be grown.

• 40:02Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 40:03Speaker 05

Eyeballs are not an organ, of course, but kidney or others.

• 40:08Speaker 04

  Heart.

• 40:09Speaker 05

Heart. So we're not, so we, there'll be no more need for.

• 40:13Speaker 04

  The old Joe Hart.

• 40:14Speaker 05

  Joe Hart.

• 40:15Speaker 04

  Um.

• 40:15Speaker 05

  Joe's heart.

• 40:16Speaker 04

  Number two.

• 40:17Speaker 05

  Joe's heart.

• 40:18Speaker 04

  This one's probability low.

• 40:20Speaker 05

  Go on.

• 40:20Speaker 04

In fact, I think they're all probability low. Well, um, probability low, but don't let that put you off.

• 40:27Speaker 05

  No.

• 40:27Speaker 04

  Um, brain-to-brain communication.

• 40:29Speaker 05

  Ah, interesting.

• 40:30Speaker 04

  Brain-computer interface, a BCI.

• 40:33Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 40:33Speaker 04

Uh, tech enabling people to send thoughts or sensory data directly, no words, no devices.

• 40:39Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 40:39Speaker 04

Um, Elon Musk's Neuralink and other labs have achieved monkey-to-cursor control.

• 40:46Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 40:47Speaker 04

  Which is a funny sentence.

• 40:48Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 40:49Speaker 04

The next step is human-to-human linking.

• 40:52Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 40:53Speaker 04

  Um, probability low.

• 40:54Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 40:55Speaker 04

  But no more texting.

• 40:58Speaker 05

  No more talking.

• 41:00Speaker 04

  Telepathy. Um, three.

• 41:02Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 41:02Speaker 04

Small scale fusion reactor, this is the big one.

• 41:05Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 41:06Speaker 04

This is, this is probability low, but we've got to get on. I think they're doing a big thing. There's a big one going on in France at the moment. And there's a new company that's just started in Chicago, I believe.

• 41:17Speaker 05

Fusion is the one that, that's the holy grail. So Fishon, we've got.

• 41:22Speaker 04

Yeah, no, we need fusion, yeah.

• 41:24Speaker 05

  We need fusion.

• 41:24Speaker 04

Yeah, so that will, that will, that will change everything. That will change absolutely everything.

• 41:31Speaker 05

We won't have to do so much burning of the old fossil fuels, right?

• 41:34Speaker 04

There'll be, there'll be zero, um.

• 41:36Speaker 05

Don't need to do it now.

• 41:36Speaker 04

There'll be zero emissions, absolutely zero, and it will create so much power.

• 41:41Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 41:42Speaker 04

That we'll be able to control the universe.

• 41:44Speaker 05

  Finally, what, me and you?

• 41:46Speaker 04

Me and you, yeah. No, but they're in this, it's this thing, it's a great big like donut thing where something goes around.

• 41:53Speaker 05

Is that thing in CERN? Is it that?

• 41:56Speaker 04

I, I think it's basically what, um, and I'm not, uh, this isn't a joke, even though it's gonna sound like it. What Tony Stark wears on his chest. The arc reactor thing.

• 42:07Speaker 05

  What, the loop?

• 42:07Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 42:08Speaker 05

Is it an infinite loop? Which is a loop.

• 42:09Speaker 04

  No, it's just a circle.

• 42:11Speaker 05

  Who's Tony Stark?

• 42:13Speaker 04

  Iron Man.

• 42:16Speaker 04

  He's Iron Man.

• 42:17Speaker 05

I don't really know anything about those films.

• 42:18Speaker 04

  No.

• 42:18Speaker 09

  Who did you thought?

• 42:20Speaker 05

I think, I think you meant Tony Hawk.

• 42:22Speaker 04

  Tony Hawk, it's Tony Hawk.

• 42:24Speaker 05

  The skateboarder.

• 42:25Speaker 04

  Tony Hawk, Iron Man, right?

• 42:26Speaker 05

I thought you meant it was like a half pipe. I was like, oh yeah.

• 42:29Speaker 04

But no, this is really important, the fusion reactor, really, really important. If we can, we're, we're still a ways off.

• 42:37Speaker 05

If we can get that right.

• 42:38Speaker 04

But it's, I feel like, cause I've watched a couple of documentaries about it recently. And there, it's, I feel like it's stepped up, that people are getting very interested in it and because it just would, man, it would just, like, it would just be energy that sustains itself constantly.

• 42:54Speaker 05

And we no longer have to burn as many.

• 42:57Speaker 04

Don't have to burn a fucking thing. Don't have to have any nuclear waste.

• 43:00Speaker 05

I really hope that if we do get this new energy, we really do stop doing all the horrible old stuff. Cause it seems as though we keep doing the horrible old stuff, cause there's like money in it. And like people are like, oh well, and like the new stuff doesn't get the investment.

• 43:14Speaker 04

Well, this has had a lot of investment and I assume, and just to be cynical, because I know what you were just saying then, just to go against what you said then. I assume the people that do manage to get this to work.

• 43:27Speaker 05

They're gonna make a lot of money.

• 43:28Speaker 04

They're gonna hold all the cards, chips and cards.

• 43:33Speaker 05

  And the cards.

• 43:34Speaker 04

And the, and the money. So we'll, we'll find out. It could be an amazing thing. It could end up being a bit of a disaster.

• 43:44Speaker 04

  What, what's wrong?

• 43:47Speaker 04

  What?

• 43:48Speaker 05

I just thought it was funny. You said it. It could be good and, um, could be disaster.

• 43:52Speaker 04

Well, no, just with great power comes great responsibility, doesn't it?

• 43:56Speaker 05

Yeah, of course. It could be, you mean, it's true actually.

• 43:59Speaker 04

Okay, I don't want to keep going on about Marvel.

• 44:01Speaker 05

No, but there could be a war.

• 44:03Speaker 04

  That's it really. It could.

• 44:04Speaker 05

  Who controls it?

• 44:05Speaker 04

But it could end all wars. It could just be unlimited power and energy for everyone on the planet.

• 44:12Speaker 05

It sounds like, it sounds like a good idea because we're getting through a lot of power, aren't we? We need to stop burning.

• 44:16Speaker 04

Um, 2026, probability low again, but possible.

• 44:22Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 44:22Speaker 04

  Um, discovery of extraterrestrial.

• 44:24Speaker 05

Now, this is, this is the one that I'm hoping for.

• 44:27Speaker 04

  Micro, microbial or otherwise.

• 44:30Speaker 05

No, no. I don't want just moss.

• 44:32Speaker 04

That's the thing. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.

• 44:34Speaker 05

  It's like you can't.

• 44:35Speaker 04

They always go, oh, we might find like.

• 44:36Speaker 05

I want a proper thing with arms and legs and a little tray of alien food.

• 44:40Speaker 04

I think we're looking at Mars, Europa. Um, I think Titan's another one.

• 44:46Speaker 05

  There's nothing interesting on that.

• 44:48Speaker 04

And they're always like, there could be like Titan's frozen. He's completely frozen. It's completely cold, but it does have a hot core. So there must be an ocean of water underneath the ice.

• 44:58Speaker 05

  Water isn't an alien.

• 44:58Speaker 04

Where microbes might be able to, and you don't want that.

• 45:02Speaker 05

  No.

• 45:02Speaker 04

You want to like find someone.

• 45:04Speaker 05

I want a proper squid. I want a squid, some sort of squid.

• 45:07Speaker 04

Yeah, some sort of squid, a, a philanthropom.

• 45:10Speaker 05

Philanthropom. Yeah. Want philanthropom, bright green, down it comes.

• 45:14Speaker 04

Yeah. I want, I want one with like a cap on and like a

• 45:19Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 45:19Speaker 04

  Like a fag or something.

• 45:21Speaker 05

  Speaks English, speaks English.

• 45:23Speaker 04

  What do you want?

• 45:24Speaker 05

It speaks English, but like bit weird, but you can understand it.

• 45:28Speaker 04

We're from Earth. We wanted to, you know, we know, we know all about you.

• 45:32Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've been watching you.

• 45:34Speaker 04

  We've been watching you. Boring.

• 45:36Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 45:37Speaker 04

You don't even know how to do nuclear fusion.

• 45:39Speaker 05

Check this out. And they break dance.

• 45:41Speaker 04

Uh, yeah, that's what you want. You don't want just some cell.

• 45:47Speaker 05

  If it's moss.

• 45:48Speaker 04

It definitely will be when it.

• 45:50Speaker 05

Leave it there. Send it back.

• 45:51Speaker 04

Like you would though, you would go, oh, for fuck's sake. This has cost us a fortune. And they don't really make a big deal out of it as well.

• 45:57Speaker 05

They're gonna make a big deal about it.

• 45:59Speaker 04

Um, I've got one last one.

• 46:01Speaker 05

They're gonna fucking go mental about this.

• 46:03Speaker 04

I've got one last one and it is a little bit.

• 46:08Speaker 04

  A I E.

• 46:09Speaker 05

That's right. I know it's all A I now. I mean, there's no point in even reading these things because it's like, aye, aye, aye, aye. Like, yeah, yeah, I know. Yeah.

• 46:15Speaker 04

But this is, um, this is low to medium. So this is slightly higher. Um, but synthetic protocell. You know about this? Artificial life created from scratch.

• 46:27Speaker 05

  Yeah. Oh, yeah.

• 46:28Speaker 04

So scientists fully synthesizing a self-replicating cell using non-biological components, essentially creating life in a lab.

• 46:37Speaker 05

  Hmm.

• 46:38Speaker 04

So something not, something that can regenerate.

• 46:41Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 46:42Speaker 04

So something that's made out of, I don't know, some sort of alloy.

• 46:45Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 46:45Speaker 04

Some sort of metal that you've made yourself.

• 46:47Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 46:47Speaker 04

  That can duplicate itself.

• 46:50Speaker 05

Well, that is, that is quite the thought.

• 46:53Speaker 04

  Um.

• 46:53Speaker 05

  That's quite the thought.

• 46:54Speaker 04

Researchers like Craig Venter and labs in Europe are already cro- close to artificial self-replication. Like they're already.

• 47:03Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 47:03Speaker 04

I, that sounds fucking dangerous to me.

• 47:06Speaker 05

  Sounds quite dangerous. Yeah.

• 47:07Speaker 04

Because you might, if you can, if you've got something that can create something from nothing.

• 47:11Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 47:12Speaker 04

Won't it just eventually take up the planet?

• 47:15Speaker 05

  Feels like it might. Yeah.

• 47:17Speaker 04

Like when you just complete like, and if it's got the same urges as a biological species and it's.

• 47:23Speaker 05

Well, if it's like the pistol shrimp, then we're really in trouble because the pissed off shrimp, I call it.

• 47:28Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 47:29Speaker 05

Cause it seems really angry and then it's going around. We'll lose all our snails.

• 47:34Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 47:35Speaker 05

They'll be the first to go. There was our, aren't they?

• 47:37Speaker 04

  The snails.

• 47:38Speaker 05

  The first casualty of war.

• 47:39Speaker 04

  Sneezes nails. There we go.

• 47:40Speaker 05

  Sneezes nails.

• 47:41Speaker 04

The sneeze nails. Uh, right, Joe, we better call it a day.

• 47:44Speaker 05

  Might, might have to.

• 47:45Speaker 04

Um, what have we learnt? We've learnt that, um, we're going to discover aliens next year. We've learned that, um, shrimps can't, um, go as fast as the speed of sound. Saying it out loud now, I'll be honest.

• 48:00Speaker 05

That's the first one where you've been like, yes.
