• 1:48Mae Martin?

Cheers. Welcome to the Handsome Pod. Here we are, live in the flash, in person. I'm one of your hosts, Mae Martin.

• 1:57Tig Notaro?

And I am another host, and my name is Tig Notaro. And I am Fortune Pimpster. This is all true.

• 2:04Mae Martin?

  This is true.

• 2:04Tig Notaro?

So far, everything is true. We're on a real... Hot streak here.

• 2:09Mae Martin?

I'm sitting on this butch leather sofa. Feeling butch.

• 2:15Tig Notaro?

  Looking it.

• 2:16Mae Martin?

  Thank you.

• 2:18Mae Martin?

I've been cutting my own hair, though, a lot, and it's got into a weird shape and very thick and kind of. I don't know why I do it.

• 2:25Tig Notaro?

Do you know how to cut hair?

• 2:27Mae Martin?

  No.

• 2:28Tig Notaro?

  So you just.

• 2:29Speaker 03

  Clearly.

• 2:30Tig Notaro?

You do, I have noticed a lot in life, you're always doing this with your hair. What?

• 2:35Speaker 03

You do this. You do a little circle.

• 2:37Mae Martin?

No, I do. Okay, I'll show you. Okay, so it's, it's, it's this, the fingers go into it and then it kind, and then I kind of.

• 2:44Speaker 03

  Pull out.

• 2:45Mae Martin?

To give it some texture, but it, um.

• 2:49Mae Martin?

My friend was like, well, that's a stim, that's autism.

• 2:51Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 2:52Mae Martin?

Cause I do it all the time and I can't stop, so.

• 2:56Tig Notaro?

Is stimming, is stimming just an autism thing, or is it like anxiety or?

• 3:01Mae Martin?

Could be, yeah, who fucking knows? Be like an OCD thing, I don't know, but I am constantly like.

• 3:06Tig Notaro?

I do things with my fingers, like.

• 3:08Mae Martin?

  Oh, you do?

• 3:09Tig Notaro?

  Stuff like this sometimes.

• 3:11Mae Martin?

There's like whole blooper reels during filming of me doing that in scenes and, or using the cameras, they're using my.

• 3:21Tig Notaro?

  Is touching your hair?

• 3:23Speaker 03

  You should see my bloopers.

• 3:26Tig Notaro?

  Messing up lines?

• 3:26Speaker 03

I mean, the gibberish that comes out of my mouth on Star Trek.

• 3:31Mae Martin?

I love a blooper. Yeah, they edited together a montage of me using my reflection in the camera to fix my hair. And then doing it in character.

• 3:42Tig Notaro?

And when they play it for the cast and crew, does everyone laugh so hard at your blooper?

• 3:49Mae Martin?

Sort of, everyone's like, oh, that's old me. And then I'm sort of laughing at first and then my face slowly falls as I see myself reflect. You know?

• 3:57Tig Notaro?

Yeah, well, this is started. Sad.

• 4:00Mae Martin?

Yeah, this is started out melancholic.

• 4:02Tig Notaro?

If it's helpful at all, your hair looks the same to me.

• 4:06Mae Martin?

  Thank you.

• 4:07Tig Notaro?

  May's hair looks the same.

• 4:08Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, I mean, we don't notice the change, but I think it matters to you.

• 4:14Mae Martin?

More than anything on this earth.

• 4:17Tig Notaro?

Well, you know, it's funny, we're talking about this because tonight I'm giving my little cubs a haircut.

• 4:23Mae Martin?

Oh, my God, are you excited? Because you're good. You have the whole kit and everything.

• 4:25Tig Notaro?

I have the whole kit. I have the cape that goes around the neck.

• 4:28Mae Martin?

  Oh, my God.

• 4:29Tig Notaro?

Yeah, I have buzzers, clippers, everything.

• 4:32Mae Martin?

  That's fun.

• 4:33Tig Notaro?

I have been doing this since the pandemic. I love it so much.

• 4:38Mae Martin?

Will you make like banter as if you're a hairdresser while you do it?

• 4:42Tig Notaro?

No, because Max and Finn are like, are we finished yet? And it's like every few seconds. I'm like, guys, guys, please, if if we were, you know, we would have to get in the car. We'd have to drive to the barber shop that we have to wait. We have, you know, this is much faster.

• 4:59Mae Martin?

  Yeah, you're saving time.

• 5:00Tig Notaro?

Yeah, and money, okay? We are saving our cash.

• 5:04Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, yeah, you are.

• 5:05Tig Notaro?

And so I cut their hair and then I cut Stephanie's dad, Papa Grande, cut his hair. And he does saddle up like he's at an actual barber shop. And he's like, well, you know, today I was going down the 101 and, you know.

• 5:22Fortune Feimster?

  He wants the full experience.

• 5:24Mae Martin?

They should like, for men who have difficulty talking about their feelings, they should set up like a little barber shop. Like it gives them the space to talk, to open up.

• 5:33Fortune Feimster?

  Say what's on their mind.

• 5:34Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 5:34Tig Notaro?

  I would, oh, go on.

• 5:36Fortune Feimster?

No, no, please. No, honestly, my hair is like a three hour process.

• 5:40Tig Notaro?

  Oh, sorry.

• 5:41Fortune Feimster?

  No, you go.

• 5:42Tig Notaro?

  No.

• 5:43Fortune Feimster?

  Fortune, it's your turn.

• 5:44Tig Notaro?

My hair take is like a three hour process.

• 5:46Fortune Feimster?

  What, that?

• 5:47Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, because I have to.

• 5:48Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, you mean cutting it.

• 5:50Tig Notaro?

  Cutting it.

• 5:50Fortune Feimster?

I thought you meant styling it.

• 5:52Tig Notaro?

  No, cutting.

• 5:53Fortune Feimster?

  How dare you?

• 5:54Tig Notaro?

  That?

• 5:56Fortune Feimster?

  Style?

• 5:57Tig Notaro?

No, because you know, I sun kiss my hair.

• 5:59Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 6:00Tig Notaro?

  So that takes forever.

• 6:01Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 6:01Tig Notaro?

How do you sun kiss your hair?

• 6:03Fortune Feimster?

Oh, they put in highlights and lowlights.

• 6:05Tig Notaro?

That is adorable. So you sit in one of those little chairs with?

• 6:08Fortune Feimster?

  It takes forever.

• 6:09Tig Notaro?

  With the?

• 6:10Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 6:10Tig Notaro?

  The helmet over your head?

• 6:11Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 6:12Tig Notaro?

Oh, my God. Can you tell us when you're having that done again? Are you gonna come over?

• 6:16Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, we put on the list.

• 6:19Tig Notaro?

So you go to the salon and you sit under the thing?

• 6:21Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, with the foils.

• 6:23Tig Notaro?

  The foils.

• 6:24Fortune Feimster?

  I'll take a picture.

• 6:26Tig Notaro?

  No, you're gonna tell us.

• 6:27Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, you're gonna tell us?

• 6:28Tig Notaro?

  Yes!

• 6:29Fortune Feimster?

  God!

• 6:30Tig Notaro?

  Oh, my God, yes.

• 6:31Fortune Feimster?

In the salon, you just hear you guys come tromping in.

• 6:36Tig Notaro?

  And do you?

• 6:36Fortune Feimster?

I'm getting fortunate trying to keep it handsome over there. Uh huh. Takes a village.

• 6:42Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 6:42Mae Martin?

Do you play games on your phone while you sit and wait? You play Best Fiends, you know?

• 6:46Fortune Feimster?

I do. Well, the, the person who I've found to do it, uh, she's been doing it in the last year. Uh, it's fun to talk to.

• 6:53Mae Martin?

  Okay.

• 6:54Fortune Feimster?

  So we talk a lot.

• 6:55Tig Notaro?

Why is she fun to talk to?

• 6:56Fortune Feimster?

She's just like easygoing and easy to talk to.

• 6:59Tig Notaro?

  More fun than me?

• 7:00Fortune Feimster?

  No.

• 7:01Tig Notaro?

  Thank you.

• 7:01Fortune Feimster?

  Who is?

• 7:02Tig Notaro?

  Exactly.

• 7:03Fortune Feimster?

And, uh, while the thing's on, you can't really talk. Cause it's loud.

• 7:07Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 7:08Fortune Feimster?

So then I'll play, uh, like games on my phone and stuff.

• 7:11Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 7:11Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 7:12Tig Notaro?

What kind of games do you play on your phone?

• 7:13Mae Martin?

  Best Fiends.

• 7:16Mae Martin?

Best Fiends. They've ruined my life for a while.

• 7:18Fortune Feimster?

  I know, it's addictive.

• 7:19Mae Martin?

  I stopped playing.

• 7:20Fortune Feimster?

Although some people say it's called Best Fins. I don't know.

• 7:23Mae Martin?

  Gotta be Fiends.

• 7:24Fortune Feimster?

I think so. It's a better name, too.

• 7:26Tig Notaro?

  Best Fins?

• 7:27Fortune Feimster?

  Best Fins, yeah.

• 7:28Tig Notaro?

  And Maxes.

• 7:30Fortune Feimster?

  What's that?

• 7:31Tig Notaro?

  Best Fins and Maxes.

• 7:32Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 7:33Mae Martin?

  What's and Maxes?

• 7:34Tig Notaro?

  My other son.

• 7:36Fortune Feimster?

Oh, Fins. Gotcha. I don't like, yeah.

• 7:39Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 7:39Fortune Feimster?

  We're like, yeah.

• 7:40Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 7:43Mae Martin?

Well, my new, like, passing the time thing is the, is the Capital Cities, and I'm at a hundred and thirty. If, if anyone was, like, following my progress and wanted to know. Cause I know the countries and I'm a hundred and thirty.

• 7:54Tig Notaro?

Have I already told you you should talk to Finn about that?

• 7:56Mae Martin?

  Yeah, he's into geography and?

• 7:58Tig Notaro?

  Oh, my God.

• 7:58Mae Martin?

  Maps and?

• 7:59Tig Notaro?

Oh, even beyond the US. I mean, it's like? So cra- and flags?

• 8:06Mae Martin?

I'm stressed because I didn't know each state in America has a capital city.

• 8:10Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, yes.

• 8:11Mae Martin?

  I didn't know that.

• 8:12Tig Notaro?

  That is adorable.

• 8:13Mae Martin?

So now I gotta learn those, I guess.

• 8:15Tig Notaro?

  Welcome.

• 8:15Mae Martin?

Yeah, thank you. I like it here.

• 8:17Fortune Feimster?

Welcome. When are you getting your license, by the way?

• 8:20Mae Martin?

Well, I've had a lesson recently.

• 8:23Fortune Feimster?

  Okay.

• 8:23Mae Martin?

But after the lesson, I've learned that my learner's permit's expired, so I have to do the written test again.

• 8:29Tig Notaro?

  Oh, no.

• 8:30Mae Martin?

I know. But as soon as I'm done that, I swear to God, you guys, I'm gonna get the license by the end of the summer. It's happening. It's gotta happen.

• 8:37Tig Notaro?

And then where are you gonna go?

• 8:38Mae Martin?

I'm gonna drive around the block. I'm gonna go, oh my God, every morning I could go anywhere. I could go to the desert.

• 8:46Fortune Feimster?

You can, yeah, literally the world is your oyster when you have a car.

• 8:50Mae Martin?

Yeah, I could go to Ojai.

• 8:52Tig Notaro?

  I don't have a car.

• 8:53Mae Martin?

  You don't?

• 8:54Tig Notaro?

  No.

• 8:55Fortune Feimster?

So how do you get around?

• 8:56Tig Notaro?

  We're one-car family.

• 8:58Mae Martin?

No, yeah, so that counts as yours.

• 9:00Fortune Feimster?

For real? Y'all have to ride together everywhere?

• 9:02Tig Notaro?

Well, you know, we live in a very walkable area.

• 9:04Fortune Feimster?

  True.

• 9:05Tig Notaro?

And I don't go anywhere. I just shuffle around my neighborhood and have coffee and snacks and shuffle.

• 9:13Fortune Feimster?

  Shuffling around.

• 9:14Mae Martin?

  In a robe and...

• 9:15Fortune Feimster?

That is nice to be able to walk to coffee. I do like that.

• 9:18Tig Notaro?

Or all Uber, like I Ubered here. I didn't take a stretch limousine Uber like you.

• 9:23Fortune Feimster?

Well, I guess if you don't go many places, then it doesn't make sense to have two cars.

• 9:27Tig Notaro?

No, Stephanie wants me to get one.

• 9:29Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, yeah, she's tired of...

• 9:31Tig Notaro?

She's tired of me being like, oh, you don't, you don't need the car today. I'm gonna take that. And, um, yeah, but we'll work that out.

• 9:39Mae Martin?

Who's a better driver, you or Stephanie?

• 9:41Tig Notaro?

Well, that's up for debate. Um, Stephanie, uh, would swear she is.

• 9:47Mae Martin?

  Is she fostered?

• 9:48Tig Notaro?

  No.

• 9:48Mae Martin?

  Really? Okay, okay.

• 9:49Tig Notaro?

No, no. And she has a car that famously goes fast. And, uh, and I'm like, why do we even have this?

• 9:59Mae Martin?

  Right.

• 9:59Tig Notaro?

  You know?

• 10:00Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 10:00Tig Notaro?

And she's just buckled in, going the speed limit.

• 10:04Mae Martin?

I'm gonna go the speed limit all the time. It's too scary.

• 10:08Fortune Feimster?

Well, at least while you're still getting comfortable.

• 10:10Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 10:10Tig Notaro?

Speaking of getting comfortable, look at Biggie.

• 10:13Mae Martin?

  Yeah, Biggie.

• 10:14Fortune Feimster?

  Biggie's getting very comfortable.

• 10:16Mae Martin?

Guys, tonight, I'm, I'm already feeling nervous because tonight I'm going to see a scary movie.

• 10:22Fortune Feimster?

  Okay.

• 10:22Mae Martin?

And this is... You know Brett Goldstein?

• 10:25Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, I love Brett.

• 10:26Mae Martin?

  So he, I think some-

• 10:28Fortune Feimster?

  We're friends with him too.

• 10:29Mae Martin?

Yeah, he's your buddy. And he-

• 10:31Fortune Feimster?

  Say, our friend Brett.

• 10:32Mae Martin?

Our, you know, our mutual friend Brett.

• 10:34Fortune Feimster?

Of course, of course, he's our friend.

• 10:35Mae Martin?

Someone, you got like a screener of a movie because the guys are gonna come on his podcast or something, and they're the guys that made that movie talk to me. And, can I just read you? This is what the reviews said, because it hasn't come out yet, and then I Googled it.

• 10:50Fortune Feimster?

Do you get swayed by reviews?

• 10:52Mae Martin?

No, normally I don't read them, but I'm, I don't like all scary movies. I like like a thriller, and I like a slasher movie, but this is, okay. Extremely gnarly, with no pulled punches. This film has such an evil presence from the get-go. Even before the studio logos hit, you're hit with this disturbing imagery that makes you feel gross and unsafe. Deeply upsetting, I'd even go so far as to say this is an evil film.

• 11:18Fortune Feimster?

  Oh.

• 11:19Mae Martin?

Like, it feels like it haunted me, like I'm gonna die in seven days.

• 11:22Fortune Feimster?

Oh no, this is gonna be like a bear.

• 11:24Tig Notaro?

Is this like a professional reviewer, or is it somebody writing a comment in their underwear in the middle of the night?

• 11:29Mae Martin?

I think it's that. I think it was someone on Rotten Tomatoes or something.

• 11:32Fortune Feimster?

You're gonna be haunted by this movie.

• 11:33Mae Martin?

  I know, I'm scared.

• 11:35Fortune Feimster?

You're with Brett, is that what you were saying?

• 11:36Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 11:37Fortune Feimster?

  Go watch it.

• 11:37Mae Martin?

I don't normally like supernatural horror movies, they freak me out.

• 11:41Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 11:42Mae Martin?

Yeah. I don't, for some reason, I don't mind a crazy guy with a knife.

• 11:45Fortune Feimster?

You can always fall asleep during it, or-

• 11:48Mae Martin?

That's true, we'll just smuggle up to Brett, yeah.

• 11:51Tig Notaro?

  Who cuts Biggie's hair?

• 11:52Fortune Feimster?

  Uh, Jax does.

• 11:53Tig Notaro?

  Okay.

• 11:54Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 11:54Tig Notaro?

Because I see some pieces that need to be evened out.

• 11:58Mae Martin?

  With clippers or-

• 11:59Fortune Feimster?

He's been all over the place lately, so-

• 12:01Tig Notaro?

Well, he's beautiful, of course, but I just see some little edges that need to be evened out. I'm happy to do that.

• 12:07Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 12:08Tig Notaro?

And would you like me to cut your hair?

• 12:09Fortune Feimster?

  Get that kid out.

• 12:10Tig Notaro?

You would let me cut your hair?

• 12:11Mae Martin?

Yeah, I would, yeah. You would tidy up the back and sides, yeah.

• 12:13Fortune Feimster?

  Oh my gosh.

• 12:14Mae Martin?

Because, look at the back, just this chunk-

• 12:17Tig Notaro?

  Oh, bless you.

• 12:18Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 12:20Mae Martin?

Oh, no. It's bad, I know.

• 12:22Fortune Feimster?

Well, I wouldn't notice it if you didn't tell us the look, but it's just, it's just like a diagonal right now.

• 12:27Mae Martin?

  Should I show the camera?

• 12:29Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, why not?

• 12:29Tig Notaro?

I wouldn't want to show them.

• 12:30Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, there's scissors right there.

• 12:32Mae Martin?

  Oh my god.

• 12:33Fortune Feimster?

You're gonna have a handsome haircut.

• 12:34Mae Martin?

Do you think you could even it out with just big old chunky scissors?

• 12:37Fortune Feimster?

  Big old chunky scissors.

• 12:39Mae Martin?

  In the pen.

• 12:40Fortune Feimster?

Big old chunky scissors. You heard that song before?

• 12:49Tig Notaro?

  Speaking of horror films.

• 12:52Mae Martin?

  Big ol' chunky scissors.

• 12:55Tig Notaro?

Big ol' chunky scissors. Oh, hi and bye. That's your friend now? Yes. Okay. We're scared. This has turned into a horror film.

• 13:04Fortune Feimster?

Tig gave Biggie some apple earlier, so I see that you're one hell of a...

• 13:10Mae Martin?

What if there was a horror movie where the killer sang? Big ol' chunky scissors.

• 13:15Tig Notaro?

That's how I started, is I cut Max and Finn's hair with big ol' kid scissors.

• 13:20Mae Martin?

  Oh, no way.

• 13:20Tig Notaro?

Yes, it did look good. But here's the thing, it took me five years.

• 13:28Mae Martin?

We don't have that kind of time.

• 13:29Tig Notaro?

No, no, no. I can't do it right now. No, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. It took me five years to now be real quick, like I can just...

• 13:39Mae Martin?

Oh, your snip, snip, snip, snip.

• 13:40Tig Notaro?

Yeah, I'm just like, zzzzz, snip.

• 13:42Mae Martin?

  Oh, that's nice.

• 13:43Tig Notaro?

Stephanie said I give her dad the best haircut she's ever seen him have.

• 13:48Mae Martin?

  Wow.

• 13:48Tig Notaro?

Since she's known him. That's amazing.

• 13:50Mae Martin?

I had a hairdresser in England, not Debbie, but this guy who, I remember one day he was like, I'm pretty nervous because in a couple of months I'm going on Britain's Got Talent.

• 14:00Tig Notaro?

  Mmm.

• 14:00Mae Martin?

I think, yeah, or The X Factor, one of those.

• 14:03Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 14:03Mae Martin?

It was Simon Cowell judging and he was so nervous and he had a piano in the shop and he'd practice playing and stuff. And I was like, I hope this goes well for him. He was pinning everything on it. And then I remember him coming back after the audition, like the next month, being like, Daddy, they didn't like it. He said, "Next time, but, man, it takes balls to go on those shows."

• 14:24Tig Notaro?

Yeah. My cousin went and auditioned for...

• 14:26Mae Martin?

  Really?

• 14:27Tig Notaro?

One of those shows and she was laughing so hard at like how she did not have like a story, a compelling story. Is that, oh, is that the same as...

• 14:37Mae Martin?

Yeah, pretty much. Like they, yeah, you, you need a compelling story to get...

• 14:40Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 14:41Mae Martin?

Yeah, right, right, right. Have you ever done those comedy competitions when you started out?

• 14:45Tig Notaro?

I did Last Comic Standing in 2010. Oh, yeah, I did that too.

• 14:48Mae Martin?

  Did you? Is that televised?

• 14:50Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 14:50Mae Martin?

  Yeah. How'd you do?

• 14:53Fortune Feimster?

I won every year. It was my first TV thing, so for me it was great.

• 15:00Mae Martin?

It's so scary when you got like three minutes.

• 15:02Fortune Feimster?

  I know.

• 15:03Mae Martin?

  Takes me that long.

• 15:04Fortune Feimster?

  And then they edit.

• 15:05Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 15:06Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 15:06Mae Martin?

Yeah, edit out the flow and...

• 15:08Fortune Feimster?

  Fully edit.

• 15:09Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 15:09Fortune Feimster?

Oh, you know what I'm about to do with my mom?

• 15:11Mae Martin?

  What?

• 15:12Fortune Feimster?

Speaking of hair, I'm gonna take her wig shopping.

• 15:15Mae Martin?

  No way!

• 15:16Fortune Feimster?

  Yes!

• 15:17Mae Martin?

  Fun!

• 15:18Fortune Feimster?

And I'm wondering if I should get her a wig that looks like my hair.

• 15:22Mae Martin?

  Oh, that would be good.

• 15:23Tig Notaro?

We should get her a wig of each of our hair, including Thomas's.

• 15:26Fortune Feimster?

That's right. And a mustache, and she could change, uh, change wigs.

• 15:35Tig Notaro?

So, fill us in, maybe some people don't know what's going on.

• 15:39Fortune Feimster?

Uh, oh, my mom has cancer.

• 15:43Fortune Feimster?

  I... I'm sorry. I can't, uh...

• 15:48Tig Notaro?

  It's uncomfortable.

• 15:49Fortune Feimster?

  I laugh, and I'm uncomfortable.

• 15:50Mae Martin?

  Yeah, I understand the laugh.

• 15:52Fortune Feimster?

  Um, it's not funny.

• 15:54Tig Notaro?

  No.

• 15:54Fortune Feimster?

But, yes, so, well, she didn't know about this when we saw her at, uh, the Ryman.

• 16:00Mae Martin?

I know, we just saw her.

• 16:01Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, you just seen her, which I'm so glad we've had some like really cool experiences lately. Not that she's going anywhere, um, hopefully. Uh, yes, my mom got diagnosed like a month ago with, um, uh, I don't, I can't say the long name, but it's bile duct cancer. It's in the bile ducts in her liver. And it's a very rare cancer, very aggressive. It's stage two, she like randomly found it. She went to urgent care for like shortness of breath and they didn't see any, she thought she might have a blood clot, they didn't see any, and they, uh, said we can do this other test with dye, but you don't need it. And for whatever reason, she's like, "I know I want it."

• 16:44Fortune Feimster?

And they did it, and she had a, um, a mass about the size of an orange.

• 16:49Mae Martin?

  An orange?

• 16:50Fortune Feimster?

A small orange on her liver. And they were like... This is not good. They set it at the time, stage four, because it was so big. And she had a bunch of tests, and so she has this. It's not great. It is not curable, but it can be treated. The prognosis, who knows, it could anywhere from a year to six years, some people longer.

• 17:15Tig Notaro?

  Or even longer.

• 17:16Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, it could be 12, 15. So we're just.

• 17:20Mae Martin?

You're in that phase of like, an onslaught of information, and like, wading through it, and...

• 17:26Fortune Feimster?

She didn't want to talk about it for the first month, though. You know, so I kept it to myself, and then it was funny, like, she started to slowly want to talk about it to people, and I went home to visit her, and, you know, she'd been saying she didn't want to talk about it, and someone said, "Hey, Ginger, good to see you. How are you doing? I have cancer." And I was like, "Wait, what just happened?" And so then she told me to share the story, because she just needed help and information, and...

• 17:57Mae Martin?

Especially because it's such a rare...

• 17:58Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, it's rare, and all these people have rallied around her, and she's got all these great people in her hometown, like, saying they'll take her to any appointment. She's starting chemo, or by this time, has started chemo.

• 18:14Fortune Feimster?

And we got her set up with a great doctor at Emory, we're gonna see what happens there. And I don't know, all these people, I'm trying to compartmentalize right now.

• 18:27Tig Notaro?

And how is she with... I mean, with my own experience of having cancer, it's so overwhelming, and there's so much information, like you're saying. And so is she bringing somebody to her appointments with her?

• 18:40Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 18:41Tig Notaro?

  To take notes, and...

• 18:42Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, she went to one appointment the other day by herself, and started crying, and...

• 18:49Mae Martin?

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 18:55Mae Martin?

  Ging.

• 18:56Tig Notaro?

  It's tough.

• 18:58Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, so, um.

• 18:59Mae Martin?

I'm glad she's got you and, and

• 19:00Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 19:01Mae Martin?

  that people are rallying around.

• 19:02Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, so she said she wasn't gonna do that again. She's gonna take, have somebody go with her, so. Like, we have a great family down that way that have reached out and a lot of people said they'd go with her.

• 19:15Mae Martin?

Well, if anyone can rock a wig, it's gonna be.

• 19:18Fortune Feimster?

Well, some people are like, oh, it doesn't have, not everyone loses hair, but pretty much every doctor is like, with what you have, you're gonna lose hair. You know, she's just, she's scared and, um, but it's got that fighter mentality and, uh. Yeah, just unexpected, did not see this coming and life is a bit crazy right now and a lot of changes are happening, but, um, just focused on her and getting her better.

• 19:46Mae Martin?

Yeah, I'm, and it makes you so grateful that, yeah, you have all these insane experiences together, like all these clips of you guys on stage together and then, and then like that we were all just hanging.

• 19:58Fortune Feimster?

  I know, yeah.

• 19:59Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 19:59Fortune Feimster?

I was glad we went on that cruise together earlier this year.

• 20:02Mae Martin?

  Yeah, right.

• 20:02Fortune Feimster?

Just had these cool experiences. The good thing is that, you know, I'll be able to go pop into North Carolina and more and spend time with everyone's like, you know, make sure you spend a lot of time together and I mean, hopefully this, you know, the treatments help her live a much longer life and that, you know, that it would, if it were a stage two, um, by getting those scans done now, there's, I think, hope for, you know, keeping it at bay for a while. A lot of people don't find it till stage four because it's so undetectable and so hard to find and no, usually no symptoms.

• 20:40Tig Notaro?

I mean, unbelievable that she found it.

• 20:43Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 20:43Tig Notaro?

So. And, um, but, but she does, I know people are saying, oh, I can go with her, but she has like. I'm gonna go with this person, or I have this plan because I just, I would hate for that to sneak up on her again where she doesn't like

• 21:04Tig Notaro?

that's not planned and I don't know if that, if you have family friends that you could reach out to or be like

• 21:11Fortune Feimster?

I think so, I think that's the part that's been tough lately is just like there's so many people reaching out and so many people wanting to help that I'm I'm kinda shutting down a little bit and I'm trying to like, I know I can't, I have to face it, but I'm just trying to like, be like, give me a minute to like

• 21:32Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 21:33Fortune Feimster?

sort this out and um, once I can just kinda wrap my head around everything and what needs to be done, I can help facilitate that stuff, cause I have cousins and stuff you know, like, let me talk to you, or let me reach, and I'm just like, give me a minute, you know? That's the thing about the cancer situation that I just never realized was all these people reaching out saying how much, how many tasks there are to do for the person that has the cancer.

• 22:03Tig Notaro?

It's a full-time job for the person with cancer and the community surrounding.

• 22:09Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 22:09Tig Notaro?

Because, I mean, I was one of the very lucky people that had rides everywhere I went. People staying with me, making food for me.

• 22:22Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 22:23Tig Notaro?

And, and it, I just don't, and I was so at a point in my life where I I was such a different person, it's crazy to think about, but I was just like, I could do everything on my own, I didn't need, you know what I mean? Like even after surgery, I was like, I didn't my friends were like, we're gonna stay with you, and I was like, I'm fine! Like at my place alone with, and open, like these incisions in my chest, they're like, you can't even lift your arms! Like, no, I'm fine, I'm good! But it's, you know, it really makes you realize, and I'm like, that's, you kinda need a medical

• 23:02Tig Notaro?

Degree to understand everything. And maybe it would be good, aside from even taking notes, to just, I don't know, like a voice memo.

• 23:11Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 23:12Mae Martin?

  Record.

• 23:12Fortune Feimster?

  That's what people said, record.

• 23:14Tig Notaro?

Yeah. Record the appointments and, but for sure, for the emotional support, to have somebody there with her.

• 23:23Fortune Feimster?

  Right.

• 23:23Tig Notaro?

Because it is so overwhelming. And while you're taking in all of this crazy information, then your emotions come over you.

• 23:33Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 23:33Tig Notaro?

And it'll, it's, it's all, it's so much, you know?

• 23:38Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, I mean, she's at the age where most of her friends are retired, you know, so that's helpful.

• 23:43Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 23:43Fortune Feimster?

So a lot of them are out, and in our church, like, had a, made a whole list of like, people signing up to volunteer.

• 23:50Tig Notaro?

  Oh, great, great, great.

• 23:50Fortune Feimster?

So I think she'll, you know, be in good hands and my brothers are out that way too, and their, their, their wives and...

• 23:59Tig Notaro?

How far away are they from your mother?

• 24:00Fortune Feimster?

Oh, one's forty-five minutes and one's six hours.

• 24:03Tig Notaro?

  Okay.

• 24:03Fortune Feimster?

  Um, so.

• 24:04Tig Notaro?

  Uh huh.

• 24:05Mae Martin?

It must be too, like, everyone knows someone who's had cancer, has had some encounter with cancer in their life, and so everybody has different, I'm sure, like, tips and thoughts on it, like, like, everyone has different.

• 24:17Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, it's pretty.

• 24:18Mae Martin?

  It's overwhelming.

• 24:19Fortune Feimster?

I will say, it's pretty incredible.

• 24:25Tig Notaro?

  Fortune.

• 24:27Mae Martin?

  Love you, bud.

• 24:28Fortune Feimster?

  Sorry.

• 24:30Tig Notaro?

No. I think, you know, there's, like you said, there's so much going on right now.

• 24:36Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 24:36Tig Notaro?

And this is like, no joke.

• 24:39Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 24:40Mae Martin?

  You need support.

• 24:41Fortune Feimster?

I was just trying to say, like, uh, it's been pretty crazy, um, in a good way, uh, how many people have shown up.

• 24:49Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 24:50Fortune Feimster?

For me and for her and.

• 24:52Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 24:52Fortune Feimster?

It's like, and people I don't even know that well.

• 24:54Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 24:55Fortune Feimster?

  You know?

• 24:55Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 24:57Fortune Feimster?

I've been really, uh, I'm pretty amazed, actually, at just like, how many people just care and wanna help and...

• 25:06Tig Notaro?

  People just.

• 25:08Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 25:08Tig Notaro?

  Instinctually wanna help, I think.

• 25:10Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 25:11Tig Notaro?

And of course, knowing her. And people, I mean, of course, people want to help her. And that's, I hope she's somebody that's open to help.

• 25:20Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, very much. So that's why she had me tell, finally tell people about it. Cause she was like, I need help.

• 25:25Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 25:26Fortune Feimster?

And, uh, and I've just been like really grateful for everybody who's, I mean, even my like good friends are like just calling her.

• 25:33Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 25:34Fortune Feimster?

And like talking with her and like,

• 25:36Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 25:37Fortune Feimster?

I don't know, that part just like really means so much.

• 25:40Mae Martin?

  That's really moving, yeah.

• 25:41Fortune Feimster?

And this, and I, and I've made new friends who've been like, what can I do? How can I help? Like people, strangers that I don't know. Or like, I mean, this woman that saw the post like reached out to this unbelievable, you know, cancer doctor in Atlanta to like, please, please help and look at her information. I mean, just like,

• 26:04Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 26:05Fortune Feimster?

Friends sending like, here, here are the things to eat and don't eat. You know, here are the things to do. Here's tips. I mean, it's been like, I hate that it's under these circumstances, but just seeing people.

• 26:18Tig Notaro?

  It's heartening.

• 26:19Fortune Feimster?

Come together like that is, I mean, it's so much.

• 26:22Mae Martin?

It's hard to like remember and feel that you have that support network day to day. And then when something happens and everyone comes out of the woodwork like that and you're like, oh, I guess that was there all along and I didn't know that people have my back.

• 26:35Fortune Feimster?

  I've been.

• 26:35Tig Notaro?

Do you want my hand off of you?

• 26:37Fortune Feimster?

No, I love it. I've been, uh, this year's been a, has tested me in many ways. Um, but people have, um, just freaking showed up for me in, in, in ways I could have never expected. So it's like just, uh, my, it's what's gotten me through it.

• 26:57Tig Notaro?

  Mm-hmm.

• 26:58Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 26:58Tig Notaro?

  Mm-hmm.

• 26:59Fortune Feimster?

So, you know, we should go fight it. We're gonna do everything we can and. She'll fight it and then she's like, you know.

• 27:08Tig Notaro?

She'll fight it, but as you said, she has an entire army behind her.

• 27:12Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 27:12Tig Notaro?

  I mean, of

• 27:13Fortune Feimster?

Maybe she'll do a stand up special.

• 27:15Tig Notaro?

  Friends, neighbors, townies.

• 27:18Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 27:18Tig Notaro?

  Strangers, every, I mean.

• 27:21Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 27:22Tig Notaro?

And to be hooked up with such an incredible doctor.

• 27:26Fortune Feimster?

And I have the means to go, you know, like this, this weekend, I last minute, I was like, I'm just gonna go fly out there, you know? I'll go see her and it's not the journey. I, it's funny, I've this year, just from things going on with me, I've talked to her every day and before we even knew about the cancer and we've just gotten so, we've always been close.

• 27:52Fortune Feimster?

And especially in my adult years, but we've just talked every day and she's gotten me through some tough times. And so I, entering into this phase of my life where I'm at right now, I was like, oh, we're gonna go do fun things and, you know, and have some fun mom, daughter times and this is just not really the journey I thought. She didn't think this either, but that, that she'd be on it at the moment. So that's just life though, but um, yeah.

• 28:23Tig Notaro?

One of my favorite things in the world, and I know I've said it on this podcast and I say it to everybody in times like these, but what's so amazing is, um, one of my favorite things that Ram Dass has ever said is that we're all just walking each other home.

• 28:41Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, yeah.

• 28:42Tig Notaro?

And I just love it so much because it's like, everybody and, and home just meaning any point in your life, just like I, I experienced that outreach and it changed my life. Like, I really don't know who I was before I was so sick. And. Man, were people walking me home.

• 29:10Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 29:11Tig Notaro?

And man, do I want to help people walk home.

• 29:14Mae Martin?

  Mm-hmm.

• 29:14Tig Notaro?

  You know, it's just like.

• 29:17Mae Martin?

  No, I'm going.

• 29:17Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, no.

• 29:19Mae Martin?

Oh, no. Oh, man. That's nice.

• 29:22Tig Notaro?

But it's, it's true. Like, when you look around, whether it's strangers, or your family, or friends, and it's just like, it's such a beautiful thing, and it is, um, yeah. But I'm, I'm relieved to know that she has so many people.

• 29:41Fortune Feimster?

Mm-hmm. I'm very grateful. She's from, we're from a small town where everybody really looks out for each other, so.

• 29:48Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 29:49Fortune Feimster?

That makes me feel much better.

• 29:52Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 29:52Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 29:53Fortune Feimster?

But that, her facing this is not going to be alone.

• 29:56Tig Notaro?

  Yeah. Yeah. That's very reassuring.

• 30:00Fortune Feimster?

  What a year.

• 30:02Mae Martin?

I mean, if we were on a, like a.

• 30:03Tig Notaro?

  What a month.

• 30:04Mae Martin?

If we were on like a talk show or something, we'd go to a commercial break right now.

• 30:07Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, but we can't.

• 30:08Mae Martin?

  We can't, so we got.

• 30:09Tig Notaro?

Yeah. They decide when our commercial breaks are, so.

• 30:12Fortune Feimster?

From laughing awkwardly to crying like a little baby.

• 30:15Tig Notaro?

Biggie didn't know what the hell's going on.

• 30:17Fortune Feimster?

Biggie's just enjoying his life, but.

• 30:19Tig Notaro?

Yeah, just thinking about the apple piece I gave him.

• 30:22Fortune Feimster?

  That's right.

• 30:23Tig Notaro?

Well, Fortune, we are here for you.

• 30:26Mae Martin?

We are, and we love you. We're sending Ginger so much love and support.

• 30:31Tig Notaro?

And we're here for walking home.

• 30:33Fortune Feimster?

Thank you for that. I appreciate it.

• 30:35Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 30:36Fortune Feimster?

Well, we'll just rally behind her, get her through this.

• 30:40Tig Notaro?

  Absolutely, we will.

• 30:41Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 30:41Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 30:42Fortune Feimster?

  Ain't that right, Biggie?

• 30:44Tig Notaro?

  Biggie can't talk.

• 30:46Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. What a podcast. We go from being ridiculous and insane to, we get us sharing feelings.

• 30:52Mae Martin?

  What a podcast.

• 30:54Fortune Feimster?

  What a podcast.

• 30:55Mae Martin?

But you know I'm like hungry for the real stuff. Like, I.

• 30:58Fortune Feimster?

  What is it about?

• 30:59Mae Martin?

It's good to get earnest sometimes.

• 31:01Fortune Feimster?

It is, but why, why do I laugh at being so uncomfortable?

• 31:07Mae Martin?

Well, take the stand-up thing. If I have cancer, like, it's a natural kind, I think, like, the, almost the absurdity of just the shocks of life.

• 31:15Tig Notaro?

That was what my whole special was, was just like, because, you know, in my run of months that that stuff happened, it was like, it was hell upon hell, like, you know, my mother tripping and dying, and my breakup, and all the diseases I had, and then I was like. Like, it just seemed, it was relentless. And then when the doctor was like, "You have invasive cancer," I was like,

• 31:43Tig Notaro?

"What?" I was like, "But it can't happen like this." I'm like, "I'm in hell. I can't eat food and my mother's gone and my girlfriend's gone." I was like, "How could I possibly have cancer?" And I don't know if I've shared this on the show, but Ira Glass from This American Life, he was saying, you know, people think random means sporadic and spread out. And he said, "Sometimes random can be all things in one..."

• 32:12Fortune Feimster?

  A cluster.

• 32:13Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, in a cluster.

• 32:14Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 32:15Tig Notaro?

And that really stuck with me because I thought, like, in the first three things that happened in those four or five months, I was like, "Well, life's just gonna be smooth sailing now because I've gone through everything."

• 32:29Fortune Feimster?

  Right.

• 32:29Tig Notaro?

And then it just, and I don't mean to say that like,

• 32:32Fortune Feimster?

  No, no, no.

• 32:32Tig Notaro?

Like, there's more for sure coming, but it's just, it's like, there's no gauge. There's no, it's just random.

• 32:42Fortune Feimster?

  Random.

• 32:43Tig Notaro?

Yeah, yeah. And you think, "Oh, it won't be me," or, "Oh, it won't be my loved one, it won't be my relationships," or my health, or whatever it is. And it's like, it's all of us.

• 32:56Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. And look at you now, though.

• 32:58Tig Notaro?

  Exactly. Look at me now.

• 33:00Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 33:00Tig Notaro?

I mean, yep. I mean, life is good, but I still have many challenges, like everybody does. But I have a very solid foundation in my life with my health and my marriage and my kids and all that work and whatever. But within those areas, there's still always rough spots.

• 33:23Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 33:24Tig Notaro?

But, um, but yeah, I'm very thankful, very deeply thankful.

• 33:32Tig Notaro?

  So.

• 33:33Mae Martin?

Well, you let us know what's helpful.

• 33:35Tig Notaro?

  Mm hmm.

• 33:36Fortune Feimster?

  I will.

• 33:36Mae Martin?

  Okay.

• 33:37Fortune Feimster?

I just wanted to touch Tig back. Up the shoulder.

• 33:41Tig Notaro?

  That feels a little different.

• 33:43Mae Martin?

Is that a Buck Mason t-shirt, Tig?

• 33:46Tig Notaro?

  It's Rag and Bone.

• 33:48Mae Martin?

  Oh, yeah, nice, yeah.

• 33:49Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 33:49Mae Martin?

  Sorry.

• 33:50Tig Notaro?

  No, no, no.

• 33:51Fortune Feimster?

Oh, that took it out of me.

• 33:52Mae Martin?

Oh, yeah, you take a break. Fortune, you sip your beverage.

• 33:56Tig Notaro?

  Let's go to commercial.

• 33:57Mae Martin?

  Yeah, we'll go to commercial.

• 33:59Fortune Feimster?

I don't even drink soda. What am I? Oh, yeah. I like, don't drink soda. I'm just like.

• 34:05Tig Notaro?

I'll gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp.

• 34:07Fortune Feimster?

I will say I have lost a lot of weight because I've barely felt like eating for two months.

• 34:11Mae Martin?

  Hey.

• 34:12Fortune Feimster?

  So, hot girl summer.

• 34:21Tig Notaro?

But you, you feel good, like, aside from any sort of emotional turmoil?

• 34:26Fortune Feimster?

  Um, I don't know. I don't know.

• 34:31Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 34:31Fortune Feimster?

I'm, uh, I'm not terrible. I'm not great.

• 34:35Tig Notaro?

  Mm hmm.

• 34:36Fortune Feimster?

I have compartmentalized a little bit.

• 34:39Tig Notaro?

  Mm hmm.

• 34:40Fortune Feimster?

Um, just because there's things going on in my life, but, um.

• 34:45Mae Martin?

Just like day, day by day.

• 34:47Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, I think I'm just trying to find the light, you know? Like, focus on the happy things and.

• 34:55Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 34:55Fortune Feimster?

What are, what are the good things in my life and focusing on that?

• 34:59Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 34:59Fortune Feimster?

You know, throwing myself into work a bit, but not to the point where like I'm ignoring everything and just pretending like everything's good. I'm, I'm, you know, talked to a therapist and, um, just trying to like feel the things when it comes up and, you know.

• 35:18Mae Martin?

We're so lucky that we love what we do. Like, can you imagine if you had all this going on and you hated your job or something?

• 35:24Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 35:25Mae Martin?

  We're, yeah, like.

• 35:26Fortune Feimster?

I mean, it's tricky, like, being on tour. Having all this stuff going on and just and then been like, okay.

• 35:33Tig Notaro?

  Here we go.

• 35:34Fortune Feimster?

Let's go be silly, but I I'm not forcing myself to. I don't go out there going, well, you gotta do this.

• 35:41Tig Notaro?

  Right.

• 35:41Fortune Feimster?

I genuinely am so happy to see everybody.

• 35:43Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 35:44Fortune Feimster?

And to make people laugh makes me feel good.

• 35:47Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 35:47Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 35:48Fortune Feimster?

So that having that in my life is probably what's getting me through. It's just like being in those theaters, feeling that love.

• 35:56Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, the community.

• 35:57Fortune Feimster?

  You are so kind.

• 35:58Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 35:58Fortune Feimster?

That is what's moving me forward.

• 36:01Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 36:01Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 36:02Tig Notaro?

  That's really great.

• 36:03Fortune Feimster?

And just spending time, you know, with my mom and um and yeah, I'm focusing on I've, you know, hats re. I I've always had my friends, but just reconnecting with them in a way that's meaningful. I've had some really meaningful conversations with a lot of people lately. Deep, deep ones that I just hadn't had in a while. Everything had been kind of surfaced for a bit just because I was so busy. That I've really allowed myself to um connect and and and just get to the get to it with people.

• 36:36Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 36:36Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 36:37Tig Notaro?

Those are the best, those conversations.

• 36:40Mae Martin?

Kind of like when we all talk about Ponties.

• 36:42Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 36:44Fortune Feimster?

  Just like that.

• 36:45Mae Martin?

  And DePuffer.

• 36:45Fortune Feimster?

Just shit, just cutting the shit and sharing, sharing what's important, I think is where I'm at right now. Yeah.

• 36:51Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 36:52Fortune Feimster?

So, yeah, I'm I'm I'm gonna be okay.

• 36:54Mae Martin?

  More than okay.

• 36:55Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 36:56Tig Notaro?

Yeah. And I was just thinking when I was when you were emotional and I reached out to touch you, I'm very curious. You know, some people don't like to be touched when they're emotional and then other people do. Where do you guys stand on that?

• 37:11Mae Martin?

I want to be curled up.

• 37:13Fortune Feimster?

  Held like a baby?

• 37:14Mae Martin?

  And held like a baby.

• 37:15Tig Notaro?

Aww. Well, like if I was sitting next to you.

• 37:17Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 37:18Tig Notaro?

Or Fortune was or Thomas, you'd want us to snuggle you, like, hold you?

• 37:22Mae Martin?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, or like touch me in some way for sure, I think. Yeah. Because it's a natural human.

• 37:29Tig Notaro?

Like, were you like, oh, boy, this is awkward when I touched your arm?

• 37:32Fortune Feimster?

  Mm mm.

• 37:32Tig Notaro?

  Okay.

• 37:33Fortune Feimster?

  No.

• 37:33Tig Notaro?

And then was there a part of you that was like, why isn't she holding me?

• 37:37Mae Martin?

  Why isn't she spooning me?

• 37:38Fortune Feimster?

Well, I knew Biggie was getting in the way of that. Otherwise, I would be in your lap with you brushing my hair.

• 37:48Tig Notaro?

But it is so interesting, you know?

• 37:51Mae Martin?

If I'm throwing up, I don't want anyone touching me.

• 37:54Tig Notaro?

  Good to know.

• 37:55Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, that would probably be, I don't need that.

• 37:58Mae Martin?

I don't need someone holding my hair.

• 37:59Fortune Feimster?

But I'm a physical touch person, for sure.

• 38:03Tig Notaro?

So this was okay, it wasn't too much, too little?

• 38:06Fortune Feimster?

  It was perfect.

• 38:07Mae Martin?

Could you feel me wanting to?

• 38:09Fortune Feimster?

  I could totally feel it.

• 38:10Tig Notaro?

And could you feel Biggie not knowing anything?

• 38:12Fortune Feimster?

I feel the love from all of you. Thank you for letting me be vulnerable.

• 38:17Tig Notaro?

Of course, thanks for sharing that.

• 38:21Tig Notaro?

Yeah, there's been a lot going on and just trying to move through life as

• 38:30Tig Notaro?

as a person and through work and

• 38:35Mae Martin?

I think that's part of why people like podcasts, because yeah, even though, yeah, you have to kind of go with someone through all the ups and downs of their life and, yeah, even in a subtle way. Yeah, it's a really long-term relationship.

• 38:51Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, there's other stuff going on that I'll talk about in time, but

• 38:57Tig Notaro?

  One

• 38:58Mae Martin?

  One day at a time.

• 39:00Fortune Feimster?

  I need this sun kissed.

• 39:02Mae Martin?

  You drink that pot.

• 39:03Tig Notaro?

  One trauma at a time.

• 39:05Mae Martin?

Yeah, I saw, I read a quote that was like, it's like, I was so scared that if I let the dam burst, like, it would just, everything would keep flowing out of me. And then I realized, like, what's, like, what's wrong with being a river? Like, that's so nice. Let it flow out.

• 39:21Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 39:24Mae Martin?

Let it flow. Gosh, should we get to our question?

• 39:26Fortune Feimster?

Let's get to our question. I'm actually very excited about today's question asker because she is a dear friend of mine. We're on the show Foo Bar together that will be out, or it's already out. It's on Netflix right now. Today's question asker, she's an actress who was nominated for a freaking Oscar.

• 39:47Fortune Feimster?

This past year for her role as Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. And she's also been a Top Gun Maverick. She was the female fighter pilot.

• 40:01Tig Notaro?

  Yes.

• 40:01Fortune Feimster?

And of course, FUBAR. So Monica Barbaro is asking today's question.

• 40:06Tig Notaro?

  Let's hear it, Monica.

• 40:08Mae Martin?

I would have so many questions for her. I want to know about playing Joan Baez. Did she get to hang out with Joan Baez? I want to know, did she?

• 40:15Fortune Feimster?

  They did me.

• 40:17Mae Martin?

  Really?

• 40:17Fortune Feimster?

I will say Monica blows me away. She's so wonderful, such a lovely human. But she's so talented. She was a ballet dancer at Tisch. And.

• 40:31Mae Martin?

  Tidge?

• 40:32Fortune Feimster?

  T- what's Tidge?

• 40:35Mae Martin?

  What is that?

• 40:35Fortune Feimster?

  The NYU, right?

• 40:38Mae Martin?

I have a seventh grade education.

• 40:39Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, NYU. And like for FUBAR, she does all these crazy stunts. Top Gun Maverick, she had to like.

• 40:47Mae Martin?

Be in those planes for real?

• 40:48Fortune Feimster?

Be in the planes and catching Gs or whatever it's called.

• 40:52Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 40:52Fortune Feimster?

You pass out and throw up and all this shit. She was doing all that.

• 40:55Mae Martin?

  Oh, my god.

• 40:56Fortune Feimster?

You had to train your, they trained their bodies for like a year and a half for that.

• 40:59Mae Martin?

  What a badass.

• 41:00Fortune Feimster?

So she filmed that. And then for Joan Baez, she had to learn 11 songs that did not play the guitar, had to teach herself to play guitar.

• 41:10Mae Martin?

  Whoa.

• 41:11Fortune Feimster?

And she sang all those songs. So there's nothing that girl can't do. And this is just the beginning for her. She is got, she's going many places. And I love her. She's such a good friend.

• 41:23Mae Martin?

  Love it.

• 41:24Speaker 05

Hey, guys. Really exciting to get to be a part of your amazing podcast. Okay, so my question is,

• 41:35Speaker 05

if you woke up and discovered you had the ability to talk to animals,

• 41:46Speaker 05

  what would you do?

• 41:50Speaker 05

And bonus points if you have an answer in addition to probably talk to your pets.

• 41:57Fortune Feimster?

  Okay. My pet right. Away.

• 42:00Mae Martin?

Okay, well, I don't have pets, so my, my first thought was, um, there's been a lot of conspiracies lately about what's going on with the orca, the dolphin, the whales.

• 42:11Fortune Feimster?

  Okay.

• 42:11Mae Martin?

  Cause they.

• 42:12Tig Notaro?

  Oh, they're communicating.

• 42:13Mae Martin?

  They're communicating, they're.

• 42:15Fortune Feimster?

  And they're rising up.

• 42:16Mae Martin?

They're rising up, and I think there's something that's come out that's like, places have made it illegal to communicate with dolphins. I'm like, what don't they want us to know? Like, what are they trying to tell us? And maybe there's aliens under the water. I want to talk to the, the dolphins, the whales and the orca.

• 42:32Fortune Feimster?

  And ask them what's up.

• 42:33Mae Martin?

Ask them what the hell is going on.

• 42:34Fortune Feimster?

There's gotta be a lot of secrets in the ocean, too.

• 42:37Mae Martin?

Hundred percent, there's goss. There is big.

• 42:39Fortune Feimster?

  Hot goss.

• 42:39Mae Martin?

Hot goss, yeah. Who's fucking who? But those orca are so well organized and they're like bringing, taking down boats and stuff.

• 42:48Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, but they're like breaching the water and, and just slamming these boats.

• 42:52Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 42:52Fortune Feimster?

  Everywhere.

• 42:53Tig Notaro?

They've had it with all the pollution in the water.

• 42:55Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 42:56Fortune Feimster?

  They're done.

• 42:56Tig Notaro?

  They're done.

• 42:58Mae Martin?

  Yeah. I'd talk to them.

• 42:59Fortune Feimster?

  That's a good one.

• 43:00Mae Martin?

Yeah, I'm amazed we haven't yet with AI figured out how to like translate their.

• 43:05Fortune Feimster?

  Just cipher what they're saying.

• 43:07Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 43:08Fortune Feimster?

I mean, I only have ever thought about talking with Biggie.

• 43:12Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 43:13Fortune Feimster?

I don't know if I'd get much out of him, though.

• 43:15Tig Notaro?

  I don't think you would.

• 43:15Fortune Feimster?

Don't you think he's kind of simple?

• 43:17Mae Martin?

  He's a simple man.

• 43:18Fortune Feimster?

  He's like, I'm hungry.

• 43:19Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 43:20Fortune Feimster?

  Now I'm thirsty.

• 43:21Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 43:21Fortune Feimster?

Now I want you to, yeah, give me a rub on my belly. And now I want to go on a ride in the car so I can sleep.

• 43:27Mae Martin?

What about like around your house? Do you have, you got squirrels, possums?

• 43:32Tig Notaro?

  Oh. Good question, May.

• 43:33Mae Martin?

  Thanks.

• 43:34Fortune Feimster?

I don't, no, I don't. There's not a lot of animals around, so I don't have, there's some birds I wouldn't mind. Uh, not the squawky ones that won't, are so annoying, but like those really beautiful birds with like a little bit of red in them. They pop around sometimes.

• 43:49Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 43:50Fortune Feimster?

I want to know like. What they're about. I have had, I have friends who have like, um, in their hippie dippy way have thought a loved one was coming to them via a bird.

• 44:03Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 44:03Fortune Feimster?

I would be interested to know from those birds if that's the case.

• 44:06Mae Martin?

Yeah, like, does that ever happen? And they're like, oh, yeah, it was someone's uncle or whatever.

• 44:11Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. But I definitely want, I would like some information from Biggie.

• 44:15Mae Martin?

What do you need to know?

• 44:16Fortune Feimster?

I just wanna know, like, how much he loves me.

• 44:19Mae Martin?

  Yeah, right, yeah.

• 44:20Fortune Feimster?

I wanna, I just want him to tell me.

• 44:22Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 44:22Fortune Feimster?

  And if there's any-

• 44:23Tig Notaro?

What if he just spread his paws out like this?

• 44:26Mae Martin?

  This much?

• 44:26Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. That would be cute, too. But I also wanna know if there's anything he wants that he doesn't have.

• 44:34Mae Martin?

  Right.

• 44:35Tig Notaro?

I can answer that for him.

• 44:37Mae Martin?

  Brain.

• 44:38Fortune Feimster?

Are there any needs that's not, that aren't being met?

• 44:40Tig Notaro?

No, no, he's fine. Maybe he needs pants, I don't know.

• 44:44Fortune Feimster?

  Maybe, cause sometimes-

• 44:46Mae Martin?

  Little jeans?

• 44:46Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, those jeans would be cute. Or, but he could tell us if he doesn't like them.

• 44:52Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 44:52Tig Notaro?

See, that was partly what I wanted when I had kids.

• 44:56Mae Martin?

  To dress them up?

• 44:57Tig Notaro?

I want, I was like, when I, I told Stephanie, I was like, I just wanna put little pants on them.

• 45:02Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 45:03Tig Notaro?

Like, that is what I want. I just wanna have kids so I can put little pants on them.

• 45:07Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 45:07Tig Notaro?

And we don't anymore. They put their own pants on. But we did for a while and it was really fun.

• 45:13Fortune Feimster?

I love it when kids, um, dress up in little suits.

• 45:17Mae Martin?

  Oh, yeah, that's really good.

• 45:19Tig Notaro?

Oh, my gosh, if you love that. I mean, I know my kids are eight, but I can show you some little ties and suits and what have you.

• 45:26Fortune Feimster?

  Little ties and suits.

• 45:28Tig Notaro?

  Yes.

• 45:28Mae Martin?

Would you be talking to Kitty City, pretty much?

• 45:31Tig Notaro?

No, I, I think I know what's going on there.

• 45:34Mae Martin?

Yeah, you know, you get the interpersonal dynamics of that group, yeah.

• 45:37Tig Notaro?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fluff is like, just the raging bitch in town that keeps everyone in order and just-

• 45:45Tig Notaro?

And Linus and Skip are just, you know, kind of tiptoeing around her. But they all travel in a group, you know? But she just really whips everyone into shape and leads the way. I would be more curious to see what apes say about us evolving from apes.

• 46:08Mae Martin?

Well, do you think they know that?

• 46:10Tig Notaro?

Well, that's why I want to ask. Like, what? What? I mean, do you think? Do you think? Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Do these birds know any? I mean, I don't know.

• 46:19Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 46:20Tig Notaro?

But I'm curious. You know, all the humans, like, yeah, we came from apes. No, we didn't. And well, let's talk to an ape and see what's the? What do they think?

• 46:31Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 46:32Tig Notaro?

  What's their theory?

• 46:33Mae Martin?

But they can sign language a lot, right?

• 46:35Tig Notaro?

  Really?

• 46:35Mae Martin?

Yeah, well, Coco, the gorilla, was so. And but mainly, it seems like they're, yeah, they're just boning and boning and living in little communities and fighting. And I wonder if they'd be like, yeah, how come you had to overcomplicate things? Like, they'd be like, our life is pretty good.

• 46:52Tig Notaro?

Yeah. And like, if they've been, you know, if they were like, oh, yeah, when my grandmother was alive, she told me about like her neighbor that she saw actually become human. You know?

• 47:05Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 47:06Tig Notaro?

You know, my grandmother was alive during that time.

• 47:09Mae Martin?

  Right.

• 47:09Tig Notaro?

You know, or my great, great, great grandmother. Probably a lot of greats.

• 47:14Mae Martin?

  But.

• 47:14Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 47:15Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 47:16Tig Notaro?

I haven't really thought about communicating with any other animals. I don't know. I feel like you would be in good standing with most of the animals because you're a vegan.

• 47:25Mae Martin?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 47:27Tig Notaro?

  They appreciate that.

• 47:27Mae Martin?

They'd have a word with me.

• 47:29Tig Notaro?

They'd have a word with me, too.

• 47:31Mae Martin?

  Although they're eating each other.

• 47:34Tig Notaro?

  Fair point.

• 47:35Mae Martin?

  Sometimes.

• 47:38Fortune Feimster?

I don't know, but it would be kinda cool to hear from the animals like the Lion King.

• 47:42Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 47:43Fortune Feimster?

We can hear what they're saying.

• 47:44Mae Martin?

When I was really little, my mom read me Charlotte's Web.

• 47:47Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 47:48Mae Martin?

But I was like two, like I could barely talk yet. And then she tells the story that she like, finished the book and I, she wasn't even sure if I was following it. And I just started bawling and bawling. But I think that's because the, the way she was reading it was probably really sad. Like her tone of voice was probably like, "And then Charlotte died."

• 48:06Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 48:06Mae Martin?

You know? But yeah, I always then used to think about spiders talking and pigs, babe.

• 48:13Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. Did you just call Fortune babe?

• 48:16Mae Martin?

Babe, pigs, babe. I've been thinking about pigs, babe. I've never called anyone babe.

• 48:22Fortune Feimster?

  I have.

• 48:23Mae Martin?

  You haven't?

• 48:23Fortune Feimster?

I like nicknames. Babe, love, Suge.

• 48:27Mae Martin?

See, none of those three I could do. I've said baby. I do baby.

• 48:31Fortune Feimster?

  I don't do baby.

• 48:33Mae Martin?

Really? Not even like in bed?

• 48:35Fortune Feimster?

I say, I say to Stephanie, my lo-, I say, "How are you, my love?"

• 48:39Mae Martin?

  That's nice.

• 48:40Fortune Feimster?

Yeah. I say my love to friends though, too. Oh, well, look at you, just throwing it around. Yeah, my love. Yeah, my love. How are you, my love?

• 48:47Mae Martin?

  Please start texting me that.

• 48:49Fortune Feimster?

But that's like, I think a southern thing. We always go, "Hey, Suge."

• 48:52Mae Martin?

Do you say that to your, to your bros too? Like would you text?

• 48:55Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, my guy fri-, I've had a number of like bro-y guy friends have texted me, you know, about my mom or whatever. And I'm just like, "Thanks, love."

• 49:04Mae Martin?

  Oh, that's nice.

• 49:05Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 49:07Mae Martin?

  Mm-hmm. That's nice.

• 49:10Fortune Feimster?

I'll, don't worry, I'll get you. I'll get you boo. Look at that. I'll get you boo.

• 49:18Mae Martin?

My friend Joe, who's staying with me, calls me.

• 49:20Fortune Feimster?

  Old Joe?

• 49:21Mae Martin?

All kinds of things. Old, good old Joe. He calls me like cheeky baby.

• 49:25Fortune Feimster?

You just like affection, right? Both physical and.

• 49:29Mae Martin?

  Yes.

• 49:29Fortune Feimster?

  Verbal.

• 49:30Mae Martin?

Give it all to me. That's what I want.

• 49:32Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, your love language.

• 49:33Mae Martin?

  I like giving it too.

• 49:34Fortune Feimster?

Your love language is actually love language.

• 49:36Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 49:38Fortune Feimster?

  Mm-hmm. Yeah.

• 49:39Mae Martin?

  Should we hear Monica's answer?

• 49:40Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, let's do it. I don't think we should.

• 49:42Mae Martin?

  Yeah, you know what? Actually.

• 49:45Fortune Feimster?

Just kidding. Monica, we wanna hear. But before you answer, do I look like?

• 49:51Mae Martin?

  Tom Cruise.

• 49:52Fortune Feimster?

  Oh, yeah.

• 49:53Mae Martin?

  Yes, you do.

• 49:53Fortune Feimster?

Monica would have a hard time.

• 49:55Mae Martin?

  Monica?

• 49:55Fortune Feimster?

  Uh, not knowing that you

• 49:58Mae Martin?

  Aren't?

• 49:58Fortune Feimster?

  Aren't her co-star.

• 50:01Mae Martin?

  You really do.

• 50:01Fortune Feimster?

Hearing that training for Top Gun really was like insane.

• 50:05Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 50:05Fortune Feimster?

I mean, what they had to do.

• 50:08Mae Martin?

  He's the real deal.

• 50:08Fortune Feimster?

I could never be cast in a movie like that.

• 50:10Mae Martin?

  It's insane.

• 50:11Fortune Feimster?

  My god.

• 50:12Mae Martin?

Yeah. You'd do it? You'd fly in those planes?

• 50:14Fortune Feimster?

  No problem.

• 50:15Mae Martin?

  Puke and pass it out?

• 50:16Fortune Feimster?

Puke and pass it out. You have to train your body to be able to take it.

• 50:20Mae Martin?

  That's insane.

• 50:20Tig Notaro?

I can't even fly on a commercial flight without being like, okay, what was that?

• 50:25Fortune Feimster?

She's a badass, though. I'm telling. And then Foo Bar, you guys should check it out. Foo Bar on Netflix. It's a fun, silly show. It's, it's one of those things you can watch and, and not take too seriously. But it's like good fun entertainment with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

• 50:40Mae Martin?

  Arnold.

• 50:41Fortune Feimster?

I get to shoot guns and I, I get in fights.

• 50:45Mae Martin?

  Yeah, you do.

• 50:45Fortune Feimster?

  And run from explosions and...

• 50:48Mae Martin?

I just saw the trailer and it looked hilarious for the new season.

• 50:50Fortune Feimster?

It's fun, yeah. It's, I was in Epsom salt baths a lot for the first couple of months. And, uh, but yeah, it's, it's, uh, action comedy, so it's not meant to be taken seriously.

• 51:01Mae Martin?

I'm gonna take it deadly seriously.

• 51:03Speaker 05

Okay, so first of all, I think I'd have a really long heart-to-heart with my dog. Try to really understand where he's coming from and what happened to him before I adopted him.

• 51:10Fortune Feimster?

Oh, yeah, that's a good question.

• 51:11Speaker 05

Because I think that would inform a lot for me. Um, and then also, um, you know, I'd have to hear him out, but I really think I'd try to get him to understand that when I leave him at the house, it's never forever.

• 51:28Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 51:28Speaker 05

He seems very confused about that every single time I leave. And then every single time I come home, um, he seems to have at some point thought he was being abandoned for life. Um, and I'd love to just ease his fears if, if, you know, in any way, uh, possible. Um, um, and just like chat. I'm so curious what...

• 51:56Speaker 05

He thinks day to day. I think, I think I'm curious about it. Okay. Beyond pets, um, I would really love to swim in the ocean and talk to humpback whales.

• 52:10Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 52:11Tig Notaro?

  There you go.

• 52:12Speaker 05

That I think, I think that would be, or an octopus.

• 52:17Mae Martin?

  Oh, because they're so smart.

• 52:19Speaker 05

  They're brilliant.

• 52:20Mae Martin?

  Mm-hmm.

• 52:21Speaker 05

  So, um.

• 52:24Mae Martin?

  It's all about the ocean.

• 52:25Speaker 05

Would be a really fascinating, uh, conversation. I don't know why, but, uh, that's what I think.

• 52:35Tig Notaro?

  Yeah, I used to.

• 52:36Fortune Feimster?

  And there's her doggy.

• 52:37Speaker 05

  This is sweet.

• 52:38Mae Martin?

  Oh, my god, come on.

• 52:40Speaker 05

  What would you say?

• 52:42Tig Notaro?

I used to think that my cat bef- pre Kitty City, this other cat I had, I was convinced that she thought that when I left for the day, I used to do this, this is a joke, but it was true, that when I left for the day, that I was just standing on the other side of the door for 12 hours.

• 53:01Mae Martin?

  Right.

• 53:01Tig Notaro?

It's actually just like. And then I'd just come back inside, and then when I'd come back inside, she'd be like terrified and do that sideways crab walk that cats do when they're scared. Uh, yeah, so, but that's, that was a really good answer.

• 53:17Mae Martin?

Well, yeah, and it made me think about that Greenland shark that they found that is 400 years old. It's been around since the 1700s.

• 53:25Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 53:26Mae Martin?

Shark, like since, um, Napoleon times. You'd, you'd want to talk to that guy.

• 53:30Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 53:31Mae Martin?

Yeah, just blind and just floating through the ocean. It's so old.

• 53:34Tig Notaro?

  Still alive?

• 53:35Mae Martin?

Yeah, I think so. They tagged it and everything.

• 53:38Fortune Feimster?

Those are good questions. I would, both of what she said with the pets, I would want to know. I would love to know where he, what his story was, because he was found on the street.

• 53:48Tig Notaro?

Oh. How on earth would anyone leave this dog on a street?

• 53:52Fortune Feimster?

He had no, uh, tags and he was not chipped.

• 53:55Tig Notaro?

  Wow.

• 53:55Fortune Feimster?

So I would love to know what happened there.

• 53:57Tig Notaro?

And did you find him and snatched?

• 53:58Fortune Feimster?

No, the Humane Society found him, and then we found him there.

• 54:03Tig Notaro?

  Uh-huh.

• 54:03Fortune Feimster?

But I, I doubt he was out there long. He's so cute. He probably got snatched pretty quick.

• 54:08Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 54:08Fortune Feimster?

And then same, he cries and cannot, um.

• 54:13Tig Notaro?

  Biggie.

• 54:13Fortune Feimster?

Cannot settle down when we're not home.

• 54:16Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 54:16Fortune Feimster?

And it stresses him out, and I hate that. I do wish I could just be like, just sleep, I promise. Yeah, we're, you're okay and we're coming home.

• 54:24Mae Martin?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 54:25Tig Notaro?

  Poor little pup.

• 54:26Fortune Feimster?

I know. I look in the cameras and he'll just be like, you can see his head going back like he's howling.

• 54:31Tig Notaro?

  Oh, no.

• 54:33Fortune Feimster?

  My neck breaks my heart.

• 54:36Tig Notaro?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 54:37Mae Martin?

But what if you actually got the sound of the cameras and he was just going, "Hosser, I'm here."

• 54:41Fortune Feimster?

  Just singing.

• 54:42Tig Notaro?

Or if you got ahold of the cameras, the audio, and he was like, "Woo-hoo."

• 54:46Mae Martin?

  Yes.

• 54:47Fortune Feimster?

  Woo-hoo.

• 54:48Tig Notaro?

  House to myself.

• 54:50Fortune Feimster?

Yeah, he does not like being alone.

• 54:54Mae Martin?

Do any of us? Some people do, actually. I do like being alone if it's late at night and everyone's asleep and I'm in my house. And I know everyone in the city's asleep and I'm playing my guitar. I like that a lot.

• 55:04Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 55:04Mae Martin?

But in the daytime, I get a little...

• 55:07Fortune Feimster?

  Really?

• 55:07Mae Martin?

Yeah, I don't like to be alone in the day.

• 55:09Fortune Feimster?

I don't mind being alone too much.

• 55:11Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 55:12Tig Notaro?

I guess a nice mix is good.

• 55:14Mae Martin?

A nice mix is good. Let's land there.

• 55:16Fortune Feimster?

  Balance.

• 55:17Mae Martin?

  Yeah.

• 55:18Fortune Feimster?

  Man.

• 55:19Mae Martin?

  What a podcast.

• 55:21Tig Notaro?

  What a podcast.

• 55:22Fortune Feimster?

  I'm sorry I wasn't as silly today.

• 55:25Mae Martin?

  Never apologize. Never apologize.

• 55:28Fortune Feimster?

But it was nice talking with you guys.

• 55:30Tig Notaro?

  Yeah.

• 55:30Mae Martin?

  Always a pleasure.

• 55:32Fortune Feimster?

  Yeah.

• 55:32Tig Notaro?

Always a pleasure. What if I started talking like that? Always a pleasure. See, it didn't even sound weird to you.

• 55:39Mae Martin?

No, I was like, finally, Tig's talking right.

• 55:43Tig Notaro?

  Finally, something I can understand.

• 55:45Mae Martin?

• 58:25Speaker 06

What's going on? It's Lamorne Morris.

• 58:27Speaker 07

  And Hannah Simone.

• 58:28Speaker 06

And we host The Mess Around, a New Girl rewatch podcast on HeadGum. Now, here's the thing. Every single week, we chat about an episode of New Girl, and we really get into it. Like, we get up in there. We get up in there. You know, we reminisce about our times on set. We share behind-the-scenes tea. We react to rewatching episodes that we haven't seen in years. We talk about how Jake Johnson is dogged.

• 58:50Speaker 07

That's not true. We talk about so many memories we have of working with the biggest stars on the planet. I'm talking Prince, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo.

• 59:03Speaker 06

We're just two BFFs having a good old time, okay? Sometimes, we even talk to other co-stars like Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Damon Wayans Jr., and your dad. We talk to your dad on this show as well.

• 59:14Speaker 07

Make sure you subscribe to The Mess Around wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes drop every single Tuesday.
