• 0:39Speaker 02

Hello. Hi, Zach. Welcome to Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan. Hey, Matt, how you doing?

• 0:45Speaker 03

  I'm good. How are you?

• 0:46Conan O'Brien?

How you doing there, Zach? Zach Tarantelli is your name. I'm not asking, I'm telling.

• 0:53Conan O'Brien?

You're an animator from Ohio. Is that correct, sir?

• 0:56Speaker 02

  That's 100% correct.

• 0:58Conan O'Brien?

And I can tell from looking at you that you are a ginger. Welcome to the club.

• 1:03Speaker 02

Just in the beard, though. The hair is like blonde, like dirty blonde.

• 1:08Conan O'Brien?

Okay, that's very strange. That's probably a sign of insanity. But I think we just have to accept it for now. I know that my beard comes in redder than my hair.

• 1:20Speaker 02

  Oh, wow.

• 1:21Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, it's more aggressively like copper. No idea what that is. Yet, below the waist?

• 1:28Speaker 02

  Uh-oh.

• 1:28Speaker 01

  Nope.

• 1:28Conan O'Brien?

  Blonde.

• 1:29Speaker 01

  Nobody asked.

• 1:30Conan O'Brien?

  Blonde.

• 1:31Speaker 03

It's like fiber optic. It's just like see-through. You know what I mean?

• 1:35Conan O'Brien?

  And also it changes.

• 1:36Speaker 03

You know, like a fish that's so deep down that you can kind of...

• 1:39Conan O'Brien?

And you know what? It changes colors like the sphere. A lot of rock bands want to perform down there.

• 1:46Conan O'Brien?

Anyway, let's move on. Zach, it says here, and I have notes on you. Oh, I've got an old dossier on you, Zach, that you are the head of animation for Zach D Films. Is that right?

• 1:59Speaker 02

That's right, different Zach, but yes.

• 2:01Conan O'Brien?

  Okay, that's alright, doesn't matter.

• 2:03Speaker 02

Two Zachs conquering the world together.

• 2:04Conan O'Brien?

And you guys are very successful. It says you have 27 million followers and you've done, you're an animator of over 70 shorts, is that correct?

• 2:12Speaker 02

I personally animated 70 shorts for the channel before I moved into my current position, yeah.

• 2:18Conan O'Brien?

That's so cool. That's, I mean, first of all, I'm a long fan of animation, raised on the very best of the Warner Brothers cartoons, the classics, worked on The Simpsons, so I've always, I've always loved animation and admire what you people do, I really do.

• 2:38Speaker 02

What do you love about it?

• 2:39Conan O'Brien?

Well, I love that it sort of brings the, first of all, you can do anything, anything can happen. And so, whether it's Ren and Stimpy, or a classic Road Runner Bugs Bunny, and so many of the great animated shows today, anything can happen that's in your imagination. And it can really get perverse, which is my true joy.

• 3:06Speaker 02

100%, and I know that you would love that because you're basically a cartoon yourself.

• 3:10Conan O'Brien?

You know what, thank you for saying that, because I do, I've often thought, I'm a cartoon character. My motions are exaggerated, my hair is a ridiculous cupcake, I act like Woody Woodpecker.

• 3:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:24Conan O'Brien?

  Uh, and, um, yeah.

• 3:26Speaker 03

You look like olive oil, you know.

• 3:29Conan O'Brien?

  Pardon me?

• 3:29Speaker 03

  Nothing.

• 3:30Conan O'Brien?

  What was that?

• 3:30Speaker 02

  Nothing.

• 3:31Conan O'Brien?

Okay. Dumbie. Yeah. Uh, listen, I heard what you said, and I don't disagree.

• 3:37Speaker 02

  Popeye before the spinach.

• 3:38Conan O'Brien?

  No, no.

• 3:40Speaker 02

  Even better.

• 3:41Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, yeah. A blend of Popeye before the spinach, yeah, and olive oil. Um, okay, so, uh, that's, that's all to be admired, Zach, that you have these amazing skills. And I'm glad you think of me as a cartoon character, please turn me into one, because there has yet to be a successful Conan animated short, and I think that's your territory, Zach, you could do it.

• 4:04Speaker 02

I, well, it's so funny you bring this up, and I feel like the producers are gonna hate me because we just talked about this, but I, I did do a little animation for you, and I was gonna email it to somebody, but I gotta tell you, here's the thing, I can send it to you.

• 4:17Conan O'Brien?

  What's the matter?

• 4:17Speaker 02

  The problem is.

• 4:19Conan O'Brien?

Nothing's the matter, this is great, he's a great. Great animator and yeah, he made a little short. What's the problem? Why you, you know?

• 4:24Speaker 02

The problem is that great animation takes time and I only had like two days to put it together. So I don't know.

• 4:30Conan O'Brien?

He did it specifically for this?

• 4:32Speaker 02

I did it for Conan. Yeah.

• 4:34Conan O'Brien?

Well, why can't we look at it?

• 4:35Speaker 02

I'll send it. Well, I want to send it to you, but I don't know if I want the world to see it. You know what I mean? It's got my name on it, you know?

• 4:41Conan O'Brien?

  Is it intimate?

• 4:44Conan O'Brien?

Is it of a, is it of a, is it of a sexual nature?

• 4:48Speaker 02

I, I mean, some could interpret it as such.

• 4:50Conan O'Brien?

  Okay. Well, uh.

• 4:52Speaker 02

No, it's, uh, it's, it's fun. It's just, uh, you know, I'll send it to you.

• 4:56Conan O'Brien?

We will not share it. You know, we won't share it with the world. If you send it to me and then it accidentally gets online and it's attached as Zack D films and people rate your work based on that. That's just, who can help that? That's something that we can't help.

• 5:11Speaker 02

You, you see my conundrum. I, I lead a team of many talented artists.

• 5:16Conan O'Brien?

  Sorry. A little self-obsessed.

• 5:19Speaker 02

Is, are we cutting this soon? Are we ending this?

• 5:22Conan O'Brien?

Oh, no, no, no, no. Your career is over, but my interview with you will continue.

• 5:29Conan O'Brien?

Oh, look, there's some couple of, there's some weaponry on the wall behind you. Not only that, but there's dedicated lighting for the weaponry. Yeah.

• 5:35Speaker 02

I know. I had to be all extra about the.

• 5:38Conan O'Brien?

That's okay. Uh, we have someone in studio who also likes to buy medieval weapons online. Um, and then sort of charge them back to the show. His name's Aaron Blair and he's currently being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service along with, along with his mother. When I, uh, when I, thank you for the introduction. When I interviewed Zack, the first thing I asked was about the swords and actually. And the last thing you asked.

• 6:03Speaker 02

Yeah, we talked about it for like half an hour.

• 6:05Conan O'Brien?

But I was asking about the swords and they are, they're the same sword, right Zack?

• 6:09Speaker 02

It's the same. It's, yeah. So it is a replica of Aragorn sword and Duro, which was reforged, uh, Narsil.

• 6:17Conan O'Brien?

  Ooh, his and hers.

• 6:19Speaker 02

Yeah. So, so they are both, the story is, I have a, like an eight foot one behind the computer. And it didn't have a sheath. So I bought a cheap knockoff for the sheath, but the sheath is too small and they sent me two.

• 6:33Conan O'Brien?

You guys just want to have your own podcast?

• 6:35Speaker 02

  Are you blessed?

• 6:37Conan O'Brien?

I've never seen Conan so angry.

• 6:43Conan O'Brien?

No, I mean, hey, this is a problem we all confront. You buy an Aragon sword. It's too large, the sheath is gone, you need to find the sheath. You buy a knockoff, that sheath is too small. Then you've got two Aragon swords, then you think I need a third one, because it's gotta be his and hers, and then I get two tinier versions of the same Aragon sword. I wish nothing but ill upon you, sir.

• 7:09Conan O'Brien?

I hope a plague of locusts fly up your ass.

• 7:12Speaker 02

You can wish whatever you want, I have three swords.

• 7:16Conan O'Brien?

Now, remarkably, you have a fiance.

• 7:21Speaker 02

Believe it or not, I do.

• 7:23Conan O'Brien?

And her name, it says, her name is Ash, is that right?

• 7:28Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 7:29Conan O'Brien?

Tell us about Ash, and is she okay with you having the Swords of Aragon, is she cool with it?

• 7:35Speaker 02

She was just bummed because she was gonna buy me one, and then it seemed egregious at that point, so.

• 7:40Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, yeah. Well, I think you found, you found, you found the right person, for every Mickey, there's a Minnie, and you found someone who was reaching for the same Aragon sword as you at Colonel Buster's

• 7:54Conan O'Brien?

  shop of bullshittery.

• 7:59Speaker 02

No, I, I do want to talk about Ash, because she is amazing, she's like the most beautiful woman. I mean, she's incredibly talented, she's a singer, she's an actor, she's a writer, we, we met working at a regional theater together, both writing sketch comedy.

• 8:12Conan O'Brien?

  Oh, great.

• 8:13Speaker 02

  Performing at the theater.

• 8:14Conan O'Brien?

That's lovely, so she's the love of your life.

• 8:16Speaker 02

She's got a contract, and, uh, soulmate by every definition of the word.

• 8:21Conan O'Brien?

Oh, I'm very happy for you, Zach.

• 8:23Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 8:25Conan O'Brien?

Is this correct, she's kind of into mysticism? Let's elaborate on that, tell us about Ash.

• 8:30Speaker 02

She's a spiritual person, uh, you know, has, has warmed me up a bit to the, to the idea, warmed this cold heart to, uh, you know, accept there may be something bigger than ourselves out there.

• 8:42Conan O'Brien?

Yes, your sword, it's eight feet long. Hanging behind your fucking computer.

• 8:51Speaker 02

What's your obsession with my sword?

• 8:52Conan O'Brien?

I don't know. I just can't forget about your big sword.

• 8:56Speaker 02

  Yeah, your eight-foot raw dog.

• 8:58Conan O'Brien?

  All right, take it easy.

• 9:00Speaker 02

She has a very close relationship to the moon.

• 9:03Conan O'Brien?

  What? And you're not jealous?

• 9:05Speaker 02

I know. How do you get that?

• 9:07Conan O'Brien?

Talk about this. She's into the moon. What do you mean she's into the moon?

• 9:10Speaker 02

I mean, she, you know, ebbs and flows like the tides with the moon. I mean, she's connected like I think a lot of spiritual people are. Maybe they don't know it.

• 9:21Speaker 03

  You're saying she's a werewolf?

• 9:22Conan O'Brien?

Yeah. No, but you know, it's interesting. This is interesting is that you could say it's not crazy to think the moon would have a significance on our lives because we are made of water and we all know that the moon controls the tides, affects the tides and is responsible for them. So is it possible then that the moon would have significance in our moods and our destinies? No. It's not possible.

• 9:52Speaker 02

Typically discounted. So glad we saw that.

• 9:56Conan O'Brien?

  Mind shut.

• 10:05Conan O'Brien?

You know, winning an award, that's a big achievement, right?

• 10:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, I love awards.

• 10:08Conan O'Brien?

Every now and then in life, maybe something nice like that comes your way. Winning them consistently is almost impossible. It just doesn't happen, you know? Well, guess what? Winning five times in six years? You know what that sounds like to me? Sustained excellence.

• 10:23Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 10:23Conan O'Brien?

Okay, she'll host like little like coven nights surrounding the new moon and the full moon. Wow. Because there's lots of psychology actually behind planting seeds and, you know, manifesting them through the power of thought.

• 12:35Speaker 01

I love that shit. I'm sorry, I love.

• 12:38Conan O'Brien?

  Spoken like a true spiritualist.

• 12:41Conan O'Brien?

  I love that shit.

• 12:46Speaker 02

  It's just spicy psychology.

• 12:48Conan O'Brien?

Does this affect the way you schedule things with Ash? Do you do you try to do you try to look at what the moon is up to if you're going to make a reservation or there's a big event coming up? Do you consult the moon? Do you let the moon guide your actions?

• 13:03Speaker 02

Well, I actually I proposed underneath a super blood moon lunar eclipse.

• 13:09Conan O'Brien?

Oh, whoa. And, uh, okay. So you knew what date that was happening. You had to propose. Did you try to? I mean, how does that work? Do you you have to wait at night because you want the moon to be out, right?

• 13:22Speaker 02

Yeah, so I, you know, um, I, I told her, hey, uh, what about, you know, in a week and three days, we have our regularly scheduled nighttime picnics, you know, like we have never done before.

• 13:33Conan O'Brien?

  Right.

• 13:34Speaker 02

And, uh, she was like, oh, okay.

• 13:36Conan O'Brien?

  That's weird.

• 13:36Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 13:36Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah.

• 13:37Speaker 02

Uh, and then of course, after I proposed and she said yes, she told me that she actually had it marked on her calendar. Expect proposal this day. Oh, she is a witch.

• 13:49Conan O'Brien?

Can't you, couldn't you have done a better job of surprising her?

• 13:55Speaker 02

I mean, you know, I could have tried.

• 13:57Conan O'Brien?

You know what you do? You wait, you make sure you're in the house at the moment and then you yell, fire. And she has to go outside, right?

• 14:05Speaker 02

  Oh, that's good.

• 14:06Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, well, you need me in your life.

• 14:08Speaker 02

Where were you? Where were you when I was planning this?

• 14:10Conan O'Brien?

I fear the moon. I can get, I am so pale, I can get a moon burn.

• 14:19Conan O'Brien?

My dermatologist just said, avoid day and night.

• 14:25Conan O'Brien?

Uh, okay, so, uh, you and Ash, what are your plans for the future? Do you have the same values? Do you have the same fears?

• 14:33Speaker 02

Uh, I mean, I, I, I think we have values and fears that align.

• 14:38Conan O'Brien?

  Mm-hmm.

• 14:39Speaker 02

Um, you know, I, we both value a lot of the same things, like being a good person and

• 14:44Conan O'Brien?

  Good.

• 14:45Speaker 02

Uh, putting positivity out into the world. Um, you know, I think that the energy you put out is very similar to the energy that you attract, whether that is spiritualism or psychology. I think it's, it's all the same thing really, but we both try to live our lives recognizing that the day that we have today is, is the good old days and really trying to appreciate what we have now before we're old, like some people and, uh,

• 15:11Conan O'Brien?

  Wait a minute, what?

• 15:12Speaker 02

  Looking back.

• 15:12Conan O'Brien?

  What? What?

• 15:14Speaker 02

  Whoa.

• 15:14Conan O'Brien?

Okay, now, is this true? You, you don't want to get too old. Is that, it sounds like you don't, you guys don't want to get too old. You want to stay young and then, uh, call it quits at what age? What age do you think you'd like to go out at?

• 15:27Speaker 02

I have the benefit of being a young man, so I I've often joked that I would, you know, if I could go out at 75, I think 75 is enough life lived.

• 15:36Conan O'Brien?

No, what are you talking about?

• 15:38Speaker 02

I don't know that I want to live much longer than, I mean, at that point, you're just a burden to the people around.

• 15:42Conan O'Brien?

This is name dropy, but I had the great privilege of getting to introduce the Rolling Stones a couple of days ago at this big event. And I believe Mick Jagger is 82. That guy's having the time of his life. And if you said, I want to, I want out at 75, he would laugh at you and then kick your ass. You, there's no, you can't.

• 16:03Speaker 02

Couldn't he kick my ass, though?

• 16:04Conan O'Brien?

Oh, he could. You know why?

• 16:06Speaker 02

  You're probably right.

• 16:06Conan O'Brien?

He has nine security guards that could kick, he would just point to you. He would be the one responsible for your ass kicking, but he wouldn't do the ass kicking. Anyway, I think you will be amending that when you're 74.

• 16:17Speaker 02

I, I agree, of course, you know, by the time I get up there, I'll probably want a couple more years, but I, I actually, that's.

• 16:23Speaker 01

  Push it to 76.

• 16:25Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah.

• 16:27Speaker 02

You know, just hitting the snooze button on the.

• 16:29Conan O'Brien?

Yes, yeah, I love that idea.

• 16:31Speaker 02

  That's how life works.

• 16:32Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, you start to hear AM radio and you're like, no. I want a few more years.

• 16:40Speaker 02

But I mean, that's, that's, that is a fear of mine is, is reaching an age where I no longer know who I am.

• 16:46Conan O'Brien?

Well, I hit that about four years ago, and let me tell you, it's not bad, because I've forgotten many of my heinous crimes.

• 16:51Speaker 02

  Right.

• 16:52Conan O'Brien?

There are, you know, so it's all just a dim memory to me. No, I appreciate wanting to stay young, but you can't, you can't plan now, you know? But how, let's say you guys both hit 75 and you want out, how are you gonna do it?

• 17:06Speaker 02

Uh, we've actually talked about this, uh, we, we've discussed two ways, they're both very different. First is going out Thelma and Louise style, getting in a car and just driving right off the Grand Canyon. Then we're, then we're going out together.

• 17:18Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah.

• 17:18Speaker 02

You know, at the same time, and the other way is, uh, you know, the, the Last of Us, Nick Offerman style, with some pills and the glass of wine and, you know, just fall asleep together.

• 17:28Conan O'Brien?

Wow, this got super depressing. I would combine them.

• 17:30Speaker 02

None of these involve your Aragorn swords?

• 17:33Conan O'Brien?

Yeah. You've got those swords, you might as well use them.

• 17:35Speaker 02

  No.

• 17:36Conan O'Brien?

You know what I would think? People romanticize that Thelma and Louise ending. I know me, and if I was in that car with my beloved and we went off the cliff of the Grand Canyon, my whole thought the way down would be, someone's got to get this car out of the Grand Canyon. And I would feel like, ah, that's a drag. Someone's and and people are gonna be mad at me. And what if we hit like

• 17:59Speaker 02

You would do it, but you would leave like, let's say, a $2,500 check behind for cleaning services.

• 18:04Conan O'Brien?

For crane services. Yeah. Um, I think it's gonna be more than that, actually, to get that out.

• 18:09Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 18:09Conan O'Brien?

Uh, but I don't care if I have to split the difference.

• 18:11Speaker 02

  All right.

• 18:11Conan O'Brien?

Trust me, I've looked into this. Um, yeah, I don't know. I just say, don't even worry about it. Your death is not your concern. Just enjoy life for now. And then when the time is nigh, grab seven of your swords and jump on them.

• 18:25Speaker 02

Yeah, I, you know, I, I don't know if I want to go out in that flashy of a way. I think, uh, I think the peaceful

• 18:30Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, just a car off of

• 18:32Speaker 02

  Off the Grand Canyon.

• 18:33Conan O'Brien?

  Car off the Grand Canyon.

• 18:34Speaker 02

After having had hotel sex with Brad Pitt.

• 18:36Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah.

• 18:38Speaker 02

It's be, hey, that's peaceful to me. It's just open sky right in front of you. You know, it sounds

• 18:42Conan O'Brien?

So besides your, uh, your obsession with these Aragon swords and of course, your work in animation and, um, your growing interest in all things lunar, uh, what are your hobbies? What's, what would you say is your most interesting hobby?

• 18:57Speaker 02

Uh, well, you know, actually, right now I'm designing a trading card game with my brother and best friend.

• 19:04Conan O'Brien?

Okay. Is that two people? The premise Or is your brother your best friend? It's a little confusing.

• 19:10Speaker 02

Uh, they, he is my best friend, but then I have another, but I have five best friends.

• 19:15Conan O'Brien?

No, you can't. No, you can't. It's not how it works, dude.

• 19:17Speaker 01

No, I get it. I have that.

• 19:19Conan O'Brien?

And what, what are the, what's the trading cards? Just, you know, before we wrap it up, what's the trading cards?

• 19:24Speaker 02

The, uh, so the game is called Alterverse and the elevator pitch is interdimensional hunger games where alternate versions of history's legends fight together in an arena one on one today.

• 19:38Conan O'Brien?

Okay, so, uh, alternate versions of, of course, we go right to Lincoln. What, one Lincoln versus another Lincoln?

• 19:45Speaker 02

  Wait, what? As a warrior?

• 19:47Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah. Bizarre.

• 19:48Speaker 01

Of course, we all go right to Lincoln.

• 19:51Speaker 02

Lincoln the knight versus, uh, you know, Abraham Lincolbot, the robot from the year 3022.

• 19:57Speaker 03

But like Genghis Khan versus Lincoln?

• 19:59Conan O'Brien?

No, no, no. I think he's saying there's alternate versions. Do the alternate versions fight each other? Does Lincolbot fight, uh, Abraham, uh, Lincoln, uh, O. Lincoln, who lives in Ireland? And do they fight each other?

• 20:13Speaker 02

They could fight each other. You could, right now, we have Sherlock as a robot fighting Hercules as a caveman. So, maybe not even like actual people that existed, just the legends maybe exist as reality in some other alternate dimension.

• 20:31Conan O'Brien?

Have you worked out how the game works and the whole thing?

• 20:33Speaker 02

It's all worked out. We've been playtesting it. We've been designing cards. It's, you know, I would challenge you in a game because I know you would, you would love that. I know you're actually dying for me to ask you to do that.

• 20:45Conan O'Brien?

You know what? No one's ever read my mind before. But you have. You have. I would love to play you in this game. And he said lying.

• 20:55Conan O'Brien?

I'm, yeah, I don't know. That's, that game sounds like, obviously, you're a very creative guy. You're a very talented guy. And so I'm sure-

• 21:03Speaker 02

Do you create things in your hobby? Like, when you're just sitting around, if you've got a weekend off or anything like that, do you find yourself writing little things or doodling or doing any sort of creation?

• 21:13Conan O'Brien?

  I sign headshots to myself.

• 21:15Speaker 02

  Jesus Christ.

• 21:17Conan O'Brien?

Headshots of me from the 90s to me, and then I sign them to me. And then I put them in an envelope and then I open them. And I get excited. And I'm, yeah, and each time I open one, I'm equally excited.

• 21:31Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 21:32Conan O'Brien?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 21:33Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 21:34Conan O'Brien?

Yeah, it's a little game I call Narcissus.

• 21:38Conan O'Brien?

No, I have lots of little things I do. We all entertain ourselves, I suppose, in different ways. For me, obviously, it's working on my body. What's that?

• 21:47Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 21:48Conan O'Brien?

  I actually hear nothing.

• 21:49Speaker 02

  You look good from here.

• 21:50Conan O'Brien?

Thank you. I look best on a Zoom. Well, it's been delightful talking to you. I, I mean it when I say you seem like a nice guy and a talented guy. I'm very excited for you and Ash, who sounds amazing. And she's great. And I'm just, I'm happy for you guys. That's all I can say. Would I be happier if you didn't have the swords? Yes, I would. Would I be happier still if your red beard matched your hair? Yes. Delighted. But I can't control these things. Does the whole moon thing creep me out in the covens late at night? Yeah, I'm worried. I'm really worried. Does the game sound fun? No, no, it doesn't. But all those things aside, Zach, I like you and I bless you moving forward in life.

• 22:34Speaker 02

Thank you so much. Honestly, it's a pleasure. And I have three more swords in the closet. I was gonna send you one.

• 22:39Conan O'Brien?

Okay, we have. Zach, thank you so much, seriously.

• 22:43Speaker 02

Thank you, thank you all. It's been a serious pleasure meeting you all.

• 22:46Conan O'Brien?

  Really fun, and us too.

• 22:47Speaker 02

  Huge fan.

• 22:48Conan O'Brien?

  I salute you.

• 22:49Speaker 02

  Bye.
