• 1:24Connor Wood?

Sweet, okay, I'm gonna do a proper intro. Last week I kind of effed up the intro. It was weird and very shaky and kind of scared and just like not the elk of someone who's been podcasting for five years.

• 1:37Speaker 03

  Pro.

• 1:37Connor Wood?

Yeah, and so now, and if you're listening right now and you're hearing, there's a voice to my left here in the studio. We have the one and only Ray the Framer here in the studio today. Thanks for coming on, Ray. This is incredible. This is a huge get for us.

• 1:54Speaker 03

It was a long time in the making.

• 1:56Connor Wood?

It was a long time in the making and I think you pitched it originally.

• 2:01Speaker 03

  I did.

• 2:02Connor Wood?

You just kind of threw it out. You're like, hey, you ever want to chat? So, because I, we dragged you into the podcast world by using your actual, your government name and your place of work currently. And pretty much like where exactly, we pretty much doxed you at PosCon.

• 2:22Speaker 03

  It's kind of flattering.

• 2:23Connor Wood?

It was endearing. It was a dox of endearment.

• 2:25Speaker 03

I never thought I'd be the kind of guy to get doxed for anything, but.

• 2:28Connor Wood?

Yeah. Um, I'm excited you're here. This is so great.

• 2:31Speaker 03

  I'm excited to be here.

• 2:32Connor Wood?

Um, when, actually, I just want to get something else off my chest really quick.

• 2:36Speaker 03

  Do it.

• 2:37Connor Wood?

I hit a bird with my face today.

• 2:39Speaker 03

  Really?

• 2:39Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 2:40Speaker 03

  It was time?

• 2:41Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 2:42Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 2:43Connor Wood?

  So I.

• 2:43Speaker 03

  You all right?

• 2:45Connor Wood?

  I'm a little rattled.

• 2:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 2:47Connor Wood?

That's why you caught me coming out of, it was a pigeon.

• 2:50Speaker 03

  Oh, oh.

• 2:50Connor Wood?

But you caught me coming out of.

• 2:51Speaker 03

  Big bird.

• 2:53Connor Wood?

Yeah, and I just like, the time.

• 2:55Speaker 03

  Where were you?

• 2:56Connor Wood?

I was on a city bike.

• 2:57Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 2:58Connor Wood?

So I, I've been biking, yeah, so I was moving pretty quick. And I'd had the thought.

• 3:04Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 3:04Connor Wood?

  These pigeons really like.

• 3:06Speaker 03

  Ballsy.

• 3:07Connor Wood?

They really hang around to the last minute to decide like what they're gonna do. And it's not like deer in the headlights type thing. It's, it's kind of like, hit me, I dare you.

• 3:14Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 3:15Connor Wood?

You know, they're kind of cocky. And I, I intentionally avoid them because I just like, but then I've, I've learned to trust these birds.

• 3:22Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 3:22Connor Wood?

That maybe these birds are just like, by the laws of nature, it's impossible to hit a pigeon. Like, they move.

• 3:29Speaker 03

You know why I think that is, though? Because pigeons were originally brought over here by like the English gentry as doves, as like.

• 3:35Connor Wood?

  Pigeons as doves?

• 3:37Speaker 03

Don't quote me on that, but yes. Um, they were brought over here by the English gentry and it's like a luxury pet, like a peacock or something. Um, and then pigeons just multiply like really fast. And after the moneyed few stopped just having pigeons, they got everywhere. They were like, well, fuck these things. Like, we don't want them anymore. So that's why there's so many pigeons in New York.

• 3:58Connor Wood?

I didn't know that. There's obviously one less bird now because I, it hit my face so hard. It hit, I couldn't turn around because I'm moving, I'm really flying on this bike. I just hit, it hit the wing, hit my face. It wasn't like a full-bodied.

• 4:11Speaker 03

  Okay, okay.

• 4:12Connor Wood?

Like full frontal smack to the face.

• 4:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:14Connor Wood?

No, it was, it was a full wing, though.

• 4:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:16Connor Wood?

  It wrapped my face.

• 4:17Speaker 03

  Really?

• 4:17Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 4:18Speaker 03

  Had a smell.

• 4:19Connor Wood?

I don't, I can feel it on my face right now.

• 4:21Speaker 03

  Really?

• 4:21Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 4:23Speaker 03

If only the people out there in the podcast either could get a whiff.

• 4:27Connor Wood?

I went in and did a dude wipe on my like forehead and eyes.

• 4:30Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:31Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 4:31Speaker 03

  It's gone now.

• 4:33Connor Wood?

I'm worried. I don't even know if dude wipes are like anti-

• 4:36Speaker 03

  They have to be.

• 4:37Connor Wood?

  Antiseptic.

• 4:38Speaker 03

  I think so. Yeah.

• 4:40Connor Wood?

  They're for your butt, but-

• 4:41Speaker 03

Who knows what dudes are doing, man? We're getting all sorts of germs.

• 4:45Connor Wood?

Are you getting into germs a lot, Ray?

• 4:47Speaker 03

  Probably. I'll be honest, yeah.

• 4:49Connor Wood?

  Really?

• 4:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:50Connor Wood?

I don't get- I brought it up on, and this, when I start talking about germs, like, I need to like kind of get back on track here a little bit, because I could talk about germs for an hour.

• 5:01Speaker 03

  Are you hypochondriac?

• 5:02Connor Wood?

I don't really get- No, I'm not scared of germs. Like, I like-

• 5:05Speaker 03

  Oh, I lowkey am.

• 5:05Connor Wood?

I'm not like, I'm not like RFK Junior, but like, germs are like-

• 5:09Speaker 03

  They're kinda weird for you?

• 5:10Connor Wood?

You know, like, they're so small and they're alive?

• 5:12Speaker 03

  Everywhere.

• 5:13Connor Wood?

And I think of them as like little green guy, like-

• 5:15Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:15Connor Wood?

  Fun little guy.

• 5:16Speaker 03

Like the gangrene gang from, gangrene gang from Powerpuff Girls?

• 5:20Connor Wood?

  Yeah. Well, good reference.

• 5:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 5:24Connor Wood?

  Yeah, I just like don't, I don't, I don't-

• 5:28Connor Wood?

Germs aren't in the world that I like, that I, like, the fact that there's germs like on my legs right now? There's germs everywhere. Give me a break.

• 5:35Speaker 03

Yeah? I'll cut you some slack.

• 5:37Connor Wood?

Okay. Sorry, we already started talking about germs and we're like 10 minutes in.

• 5:40Speaker 03

  It's all good.

• 5:42Connor Wood?

So, when, when I came in and you pitched coming on the podcast-

• 5:46Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 5:47Connor Wood?

You said that you had a lot-

• 5:49Speaker 03

  Of stories.

• 5:50Connor Wood?

You said you had a lot of stories. You're a story guy.

• 5:52Speaker 03

  I'm a story guy.

• 5:53Connor Wood?

I was, I was taken by that?

• 5:55Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 5:57Connor Wood?

Do you, I don't have, I don't have a cue for you, like a good transition to get to-

• 6:02Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 6:02Connor Wood?

  I'm not a transition guy?

• 6:03Speaker 03

Well, I'll tell you how we started framing, and then we'll lead up to me starting at my current place of business.

• 6:07Connor Wood?

Yes. Do you know that someone dressed up as you for Halloween?

• 6:09Speaker 03

Yes, because that girl came into the shop and told me.

• 6:12Connor Wood?

That's what I'm talking about. Like, I told people where, his name and where he works.

• 6:15Speaker 03

Did you wear the wig? And she was like, no, just the name tag. And I was like, the wig would have been kinda sick. But alas, your audience hasn't known what I look like until now.

• 6:23Connor Wood?

It's weird because I was in Boston, when, when the young woman dressed up as you.

• 6:27Speaker 03

Yeah. Sex. Shout out Boston, dude.

• 6:29Connor Wood?

  Shout out Boston.

• 6:30Speaker 03

Go crazy. But I'll, I'll tell you how, uh, yeah, I'll tell you how we got to, to my current place of business. So-

• 6:35Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 6:36Speaker 03

I started framing in high school as like just a job to do after school. I got the job on Craigslist. Craigslist, shout out, great place to get a job, especially a weird job. I love a weird job.

• 6:48Speaker 03

And I did it. It was this place called Frame It Yourself in Fairhaven, New Jersey. And the two people who run it are just like, super wonderful. Took a chance on like, a scrappy young high schooler with like, no framing experience whatsoever. Math's also like, my worst subject. And I was really afraid they were gonna make me do this.

• 7:05Connor Wood?

Is there a lot of math in framing?

• 7:06Speaker 03

There's like, some, yeah. But I'm good at that type of math.

• 7:09Connor Wood?

  Four by five?

• 7:10Speaker 03

  Sure, exactly.

• 7:11Connor Wood?

  Sure.

• 7:12Speaker 03

Four by six is the standard.

• 7:13Connor Wood?

I could, we could go, we could do this all day.

• 7:16Speaker 03

But yeah, so, I got that job. It was great. I left, went to college, did a bunch of stuff in college. Was like, I wanna move to New York. I wanna be in the music industry. That's what like, my-

• 7:29Connor Wood?

  You look like you would.

• 7:30Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 7:30Connor Wood?

Oh, because you kinda look like Billie Eilish's brother.

• 7:33Speaker 03

  That's what everyone said.

• 7:34Connor Wood?

Yeah. It would be a good fit. You could slip right in there.

• 7:38Speaker 03

Yeah. I wish, I hope one day he gets a "You look like a Ray Young." I think that'd be sick. So he would know how it feels. And it'd be a compliment. Because it's always a compliment when people say that to me.

• 7:48Connor Wood?

  Well done.

• 7:49Speaker 03

But, I wanted to work in music so bad, I moved to the city. I had this internship working for this manager for like, two weeks. I was like, yes, I got this. This is it. I hustled. I worked at some venues in Brooklyn, like really scrappy DIY venues, which was awesome. Like Transpico's and Market Hotel.

• 8:08Speaker 03

And got this job, and I was like, let's fucking go. Like, I did it. And then COVID happened two weeks later. And I was like, I didn't do it. That's it. I failed. I'll never work in the music industry ever again. And I moved back in with my parents, who have relocated to Buffalo. And I'm up there, and I'm like, you know, it's fucking, I'm just gonna move back. So I moved back in, and I'm like, I just need a job. And it's always like, the banana stand in Arrested Development.

• 8:37Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 8:38Speaker 03

There's always money in a frame shop. So I can always get a job at a frame shop, once you have that skill. And I start working at this frame shop, up on 72nd. Frames For You. And it was a great, like, cool, Upper West Side little store.

• 8:54Connor Wood?

I have to say about, there's always money in the frame shop.

• 8:56Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 8:56Connor Wood?

Getting stuff framed is so expensive.

• 8:58Speaker 03

  Yes, it is.

• 8:58Connor Wood?

And I think that that's neat, like, I think if you're on the Upper West Side.

• 9:02Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 9:02Connor Wood?

Yeah, those people are getting things framed constantly, because they have a billion dollars.

• 9:05Speaker 03

They were probably the most hesitant about prices.

• 9:09Connor Wood?

  What?

• 9:10Speaker 03

  On the Upper West, yeah.

• 9:12Connor Wood?

Are people just throwing money away on framing things? Because I like, I'm saving up to get like, I have this, this print and then I'm like,

• 9:18Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:19Connor Wood?

I will get you framed. I'm, I'm putting dollars aside to get this thing framed.

• 9:23Speaker 03

  Exactly.

• 9:24Connor Wood?

  It's like not a, it's not a willy-nilly thing. You don't get things framed willy-nilly. You earn a frame.

• 9:29Speaker 03

  You really do.

• 9:29Connor Wood?

And you work for a frame.

• 9:30Speaker 03

It would always kind of break my heart when like a dad and their kid would come in with like a poster from the Natural History Museum. I'm like, oh, I just want to get this framed. And I'd be like, it's going to be $300. And they'd be like, are you fucking kidding me? And I'm like, even on the cheapest option, yeah, it's going to be like 300 bucks. And they would walk out really dissatisfied and it's like, just pin that shit to the wall, bro. Okay. Like not everything needs a frame, especially for a child. Sorry, kids. But you should be just pinning stuff to the wall, tape, whatever, like if you're under 18, you don't need any frames.

• 10:00Connor Wood?

They have frames at Marshalls in TJ Maxx, but not, not custom.

• 10:04Speaker 03

  Yeah, you're fine.

• 10:05Connor Wood?

You've framed a couple of things for, for me that I adore.

• 10:08Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 10:09Connor Wood?

Well, I hope that they're still around. We, all my stuff's in storage right now, so.

• 10:13Speaker 03

Well, let me, I'll finish getting to the current spot.

• 10:16Connor Wood?

  I'm a big like.

• 10:17Speaker 03

  No, that's the whole point.

• 10:17Connor Wood?

You, you pause for a second, I'm jumping right in.

• 10:19Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, that's the whole point. So I met this dude at a conference, name was Nick Gordon, and he was an A and R for this company, Symbiotic Distribution. And I just like presented myself to him, much in the same way that I presented myself to you. And I was like, yo, like, I want to talk. And he was like, all right, let's talk. We talked over Zoom.

• 10:36Connor Wood?

  You're always doing that.

• 10:37Speaker 03

I am always doing that. Um, and we had a great conversation. And at the end of the call, he's like, yeah, man, just keep on plugging away on the whole music industry thing. And I'm like, dog, I want to work for you. Like, I want to work for you. And he was like, all right, let me see what I can do. And like a couple of months later, I had an internship at the distribution company. And I worked my way up, went more part-time, went full-time, stopped framing, did music for like six years, right? So I was A and R at Symbiotic Distribution. And then I got my dream job, which was working on Julian Castblenke's management team, um, at Cult Records.

• 11:13Connor Wood?

  That's the Strokes.

• 11:14Speaker 03

  That's the Strokes.

• 11:15Connor Wood?

  You guys.

• 11:15Speaker 03

The GOAT. Um, and it was just like fucking awesome. Like it was sick.

• 11:21Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 11:22Speaker 03

It was really cool. And then I had to stop doing that because that and the other job I had, the A and R job, it was just like too much. Like I was like, I was not well up here, you know? So I stopped doing that. A couple of months later, the economy takes a tank, right?

• 11:39Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 11:39Speaker 03

Everyone in music got laid off. I mean, I'm sure you know people in music, but like everyone got laid off. And I was one of those people and I'm like, shit, okay. I got a nice severance check.

• 11:47Connor Wood?

I need to introduce you to my buddy Scooter.

• 11:50Speaker 03

  Scooter Braun?

• 11:51Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 11:52Speaker 03

  That's your buddy?

• 11:52Connor Wood?

You would, oh my God. I don't know Scooter Braun.

• 11:58Speaker 03

That'd have been crazy. But yeah, so I had to move back to Buffalo because I ran out of money. And I'm sitting on my ass and I'm like, I need, I need a job, god damn it. And I was on unemployment and I was like, I was wanting to do like artist partnerships, like brand partnerships. So I was like making decks and pitching them out to companies, being like, if you want to connect to cool musicians, like let me know. Cause I have all the connections, you know?

• 12:22Speaker 03

And I actually got meetings with like big brands and it was really cool and we were like, I thought the meetings went really well. Until one by one, they just kind of fell off and fell off. And then I ran out of unemployment and I was like, let me move back to New York. I'm just going to move back to New York because I'd rather be broke and have no money coming in in New York City than I would sit on my parents' couch in Buffalo, right? I got back to New York. I'm essentially homeless. I'm not going to lie. I'm sleeping on like couches. I'm sleeping on like the floor of my brother's kitchen, like.

• 12:50Connor Wood?

  I'm doing that right now.

• 12:51Speaker 03

How is it? It's a nice kitchen?

• 12:53Connor Wood?

I would love to like not be on a couch.

• 12:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:55Connor Wood?

You get to a point where it's like.

• 12:56Speaker 03

Yeah. And the like not having any alone time ever.

• 13:00Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 13:00Speaker 03

Really takes a toll. Cause I'm a big chiller. Like I love hanging out.

• 13:03Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 13:04Speaker 03

But after like none for weeks on end.

• 13:08Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 13:08Speaker 03

  It's like, that's, that sucks.

• 13:11Connor Wood?

It's also weird to just like, I have, I've claimed a corner of my friend's.

• 13:14Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 13:15Connor Wood?

Living room. And it's just like, I'm sorry that you can't go into that corner.

• 13:17Speaker 03

Are you just in between places? What's your deal?

• 13:18Connor Wood?

Yeah. Well, my, my lease in it and then the next place I found, there's just no apartments available right now.

• 13:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:24Connor Wood?

This happens to me every year that I move. And so it's, I, I move in in two weeks.

• 13:29Speaker 03

Okay, the summer's a bad time to move.

• 13:31Connor Wood?

  Oh, it's really bad.

• 13:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:32Connor Wood?

Yeah, it's a bad time to move. It's a bad time to be sleeping on someone's couch. It's a bad time to be at the mercy of someone else's preferences over their AC. Cause I'm with a, I'm with a, I'm with a turn it off when you leave person right now, which is like, I wanna remind people that the way AC works is that like when you turn it off, then it has to pump itself back down.

• 13:50Speaker 03

It's actually not good for the AC.

• 13:51Connor Wood?

It's bad for your bill. Like it's worse. You just leave it on a constant temperature.

• 13:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:56Connor Wood?

And so every time I'm, I get back or whatever, the, the AC's at like 73 and you know, I'm just like, I'm sweating right now.

• 14:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:04Connor Wood?

So it's not, it's not great, but all is well.

• 14:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:07Connor Wood?

I'm taking these vitamins right now that are making me just like.

• 14:10Speaker 03

  What vitamins?

• 14:11Connor Wood?

  NADH plus.

• 14:13Speaker 03

  What's that for?

• 14:13Connor Wood?

  I don't know.

• 14:14Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 14:15Connor Wood?

Um, and I cannot be bothered by anything. It's crazy.

• 14:20Speaker 03

  That's sick.

• 14:21Connor Wood?

  Yeah, I'm having horrible nightmares.

• 14:22Speaker 03

  What?

• 14:23Connor Wood?

But, um, otherwise really great. Oh yeah. No, the nightmares are so bad that I'm scared to go to sleep. It's like Freddy Krueger vibes.

• 14:30Speaker 03

That's kinda sick. Sometimes I think nightmares are cool. Cause it's like, sometimes you see something so horrifying in your own head. You're like, wow, I couldn't believe that I could conceive of that.

• 14:38Connor Wood?

Dreams make me so mad when I have a scary dream about like, I had a dream that Usher was trying to like, was trying to kill my family.

• 14:44Speaker 03

  That's sick.

• 14:45Connor Wood?

No, but it's like, I could, you can, that is the one time you can just create like inception vibes. Like I could flip the city of Paris over and like.

• 14:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:53Connor Wood?

  I'm.

• 14:53Speaker 03

  But they're never like that.

• 14:54Connor Wood?

No, I'm trying to get out of like a, a river and it's so slippery. I keep falling and there's a snake behind like.

• 14:59Speaker 03

Or like beavers in my head or breaking into my house. Yeah.

• 15:02Connor Wood?

I wanna have it all hands with like my, my brain.

• 15:04Speaker 03

  Subconsciousness?

• 15:05Connor Wood?

Yeah, just be like, what, get it to get like, why are you?

• 15:07Speaker 03

Have you had a lucid dream?

• 15:09Connor Wood?

  I have.

• 15:10Speaker 03

  How'd it go?

• 15:11Connor Wood?

  Um.

• 15:11Speaker 03

What did the inside of your subconsciousness look like?

• 15:16Connor Wood?

I feel you know, I feel you, you have an answer for this. So my, mine was I was,

• 15:23Connor Wood?

it was like in high school or something and I had like read something about. And how cool is it that I'm saying I read something about it and I truly earnestly mean I read something because now if I read something it means I just watched a TikTok. But I know I read something about it and I was like, I'm obsessed with this. I want to do this. And I was like, looking at pictures of like my friends and stuff and trying to get them into my dream. And it worked a couple of times.

• 15:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:43Connor Wood?

But I think that's just thinking about something.

• 15:45Speaker 03

Well, my thing was, because I had done some reading about it too, actual reading.

• 15:50Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 15:50Speaker 03

  And I, no.

• 15:55Speaker 03

I always carried a water bottle with me in high school. And in the dream, I was like, where's the water bottle? And that was the trick. I was like, oh, it's not here. And you can't see your own reflection in dreams either. And I remember being like, there's a mirror and my perception of myself like wasn't right. And I was like, okay, I'm definitely dreaming.

• 16:10Connor Wood?

  Do you do shrooms?

• 16:11Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 16:11Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 16:12Speaker 03

Yeah. Sometimes, like not a lot, but.

• 16:15Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 16:16Speaker 03

  Smoke if you got them.

• 16:17Connor Wood?

  Smoke, you smoke the shrooms?

• 16:19Speaker 03

No, I mean, that's just an expression.

• 16:20Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 16:21Speaker 03

Yeah. Smoke if you got them. You ever seen Spaceballs?

• 16:25Connor Wood?

Ages ago. You know they're doing a second one?

• 16:26Speaker 03

I know. I love Mel Brooks.

• 16:28Connor Wood?

  It's Mel Brooks?

• 16:29Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 16:29Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 16:30Speaker 03

He's still alive. He's like one of my favorite directors. That's like one of my-

• 16:32Connor Wood?

He did Passion of the Christ, right?

• 16:34Speaker 03

  That's Mel Gibson.

• 16:35Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 16:35Speaker 03

  He's in Apocalypto too.

• 16:39Speaker 03

You ever seen that one? Apocalypto?

• 16:40Connor Wood?

  No.

• 16:41Speaker 03

  Oh dude, it's sick.

• 16:41Connor Wood?

I don't watch things that are upsetting. I don't watch-

• 16:44Speaker 03

  It's really upsetting.

• 16:45Connor Wood?

I wouldn't watch something called Apocalypto.

• 16:46Speaker 03

It's so sick. You should watch it.

• 16:47Connor Wood?

  That wouldn't cross my dad.

• 16:48Speaker 03

I always like to watch it like that when I have like a really bad fever, you know, like Apocalypse Now, Apocalypto, two best fever dream movies. Cause I'm like, if I'm gonna feel like shit, I'm gonna feel like shit.

• 16:58Connor Wood?

I want to be panicking too.

• 17:00Speaker 03

I just want to exist in like a weird like meditative like sickness state and just sink into it and like really like get into it, you know?

• 17:09Connor Wood?

  Like you're like a masochist.

• 17:11Speaker 03

  A little bit.

• 17:12Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 17:15Speaker 00

• 18:13Connor Wood?

Um, no, I, I can't watch anything that makes me think at all. I'm not, I don't like thinking.

• 18:19Speaker 03

  The Lego movie.

• 18:21Connor Wood?

Not even, not even the Lego. Like, I'm so close to being someone that watches Bravo, stuff on Bravo.

• 18:27Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 18:28Connor Wood?

Which, no dig on people that watch Bravo.

• 18:29Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 18:31Connor Wood?

I, I'm like, I'm like, almost there. I'm almost there to start watching a Real Housewives type situation.

• 18:37Speaker 03

I remember seeing, um, Love Island, and I'm not like the type of guy who usually watches that, but I was with one of my ex-girlfriends and she showed me Love Island. It was actually pretty nice, because they don't really fight. They just kind of like, they, there's drama, but it's not like aggressive, it's not like Jersey Shore.

• 18:53Connor Wood?

They don't fight. You need to watch the UK one.

• 18:56Speaker 03

  Do they fight?

• 18:57Connor Wood?

  There was-

• 18:58Speaker 03

  I liked the not fighting.

• 19:00Connor Wood?

Yeah. Yeah, I like the fighting.

• 19:03Speaker 03

  You like the fighting?

• 19:04Connor Wood?

  Yeah, and I like the-

• 19:05Speaker 03

Whoa, who's the masochist now, Connor?

• 19:07Connor Wood?

I like when they're fighting. It makes me feel better about my life.

• 19:10Speaker 03

That stresses me out. You see, I'd rather have like, a fictional depiction of something horrific, rather than like, real anger and violence. Like, that actually upsets me more, I would say.

• 19:19Connor Wood?

Have you gotten in a fight? A fistfight?

• 19:21Speaker 03

Oh, god. Eh, not in a very long time, not since like, elementary school.

• 19:24Connor Wood?

  Did you used to fight?

• 19:25Speaker 03

Not really, I did like taekwondo, but-

• 19:27Connor Wood?

  Would you fight?

• 19:28Speaker 03

  If I had to.

• 19:28Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 19:29Speaker 03

I guess, yeah. People don't really pick fights with me, because I'm kind of a big guy.

• 19:32Connor Wood?

  You're tall.

• 19:33Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 19:33Connor Wood?

  How tall are you?

• 19:35Speaker 03

  Uh, six foot three.

• 19:35Connor Wood?

  That's nice.

• 19:36Speaker 03

  Yeah. Doesn't hurt.

• 19:37Connor Wood?

  That would be nice.

• 19:39Speaker 03

  But, I'll- So anyway.

• 19:42Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 19:42Speaker 03

  I'm homeless.

• 19:44Connor Wood?

Oh, right. Sorry. I told you I'd slip right in.

• 19:46Speaker 03

It's all good. That's the whole point. I'm homeless. And I'm walking around and it's probably like ninety-five, ninety-eight degrees in New York in, uh, July of last year. So I'd only go out after like four P M. to apply for jobs. And like, I hate to prove the boomers right because it makes my skin crawl a little bit, but I was like for real passing out like printed resumes and shit. And I walk by the frame store I work at and I walk in and I see my girl Juliette. And I'm just like, shout out Juliette. She's the best. Um, and I'm just like, can I? Are you guys hiring? And she's like, yeah, actually we are. And then like light bulbs went off. Handed in the resume. I have an abundance of experience and I got the job. So she really saved my ass with that one.

• 20:32Connor Wood?

Thinking about my resume makes me wanna shoot myself.

• 20:36Speaker 03

Really? But you have like a career in entertainment though, no?

• 20:39Connor Wood?

  Yeah, it's okay. It's, it's, I'm, I'm the.

• 20:41Speaker 03

  That's what you.

• 20:42Connor Wood?

The makeup of the resume is good, the work history. Thinking about opening, cause I made it on Photoshop and it's.

• 20:47Speaker 03

Why'd you make it on Photoshop and not Word?

• 20:50Connor Wood?

I thought it was better than everybody.

• 20:51Speaker 03

  Really?

• 20:51Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 20:52Speaker 03

  Kind of R L key.

• 20:54Connor Wood?

No, this thing like if I, if I were to touch it now, like everything would move.

• 20:58Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 20:58Connor Wood?

  And shift.

• 20:59Speaker 03

  One of them.

• 21:00Connor Wood?

Yeah. And I know, and thinking about having to dig my resume back up on my laptop and adjust it. I don't know what I would do if I had to go apply to things now because I, I.

• 21:10Speaker 03

  It's like.

• 21:10Connor Wood?

  We've been talking about.

• 21:11Speaker 03

Well, moving sucks. Looking for a job.

• 21:14Connor Wood?

  While you're.

• 21:15Speaker 03

Even worse. That's like, those two things go hand in hand to me. Like looking for a job and moving.

• 21:20Connor Wood?

Did your parents have any input on like, they're like, you're at home and you need to be back in the city, like applying to jobs or anything?

• 21:26Speaker 03

No, my parents are like insanely cool. Like I recorded a whole album in like one week in my basement, cause my dad's a musician too. And my parents are literally just like, we get you're stressed out. We get things suck right now in the job market. Like. We want you to find something good, you know? Um, and they're really supportive of like most of the insane things that I've done with my life, thankfully. And, uh. I just kinda came to a head where I was like, look, I don't wanna get a job in Buffalo. I'll figure it out in New York. And they were like, we got you. So don't worry about it.

• 21:55Connor Wood?

  Yep.

• 21:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:56Connor Wood?

Rather be homeless in New York than alive in Buffalo.

• 21:59Speaker 03

  Maybe that's not true.

• 22:00Connor Wood?

I've never been. I'm gonna, I'm going there actually.

• 22:02Speaker 03

It's a great city. What are you going there for?

• 22:04Connor Wood?

For shows in the fall, I think.

• 22:06Speaker 03

Okay, my uncle has the best restaurant in Buffalo.

• 22:08Connor Wood?

  Really?

• 22:08Speaker 03

  I'll plug you up.

• 22:09Connor Wood?

  What, uh?

• 22:10Speaker 03

  It's called Roost.

• 22:11Connor Wood?

  What is?

• 22:11Speaker 03

It's my aunt and uncle's restaurant. It's like gastro gourmet.

• 22:14Connor Wood?

I don't know what those words are.

• 22:15Speaker 03

It's like, they, they change the menu every two weeks. It's always a different kind of cuisine from around the world, and it's just insane. Like, it's so fucking good.

• 22:24Connor Wood?

  Wow, okay.

• 22:25Speaker 03

Yeah, I will plug you up.

• 22:26Connor Wood?

  I'll check it out.

• 22:27Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 22:27Connor Wood?

That's exciting. You know what I was gonna say earlier when you said that you can get on Craigslist and find very weird jobs?

• 22:32Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 22:33Connor Wood?

When I was moving to LA from Austin.

• 22:34Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 22:35Connor Wood?

  Originally, yeah.

• 22:37Speaker 03

  Shout out Texas.

• 22:38Connor Wood?

  Shout out Texas.

• 22:39Speaker 03

  Shout out Texas.

• 22:39Connor Wood?

Um, when I was moving there originally, I had just blown through my severance. From my first job.

• 22:46Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 22:46Connor Wood?

And it was interesting to see, cause at first, you get that severance check and you're like, I'm the richest man that's ever walked the earth.

• 22:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nothing matters.

• 22:54Connor Wood?

  Then you start like, no.

• 22:56Speaker 03

  Spending money on shit.

• 22:57Connor Wood?

I'm gonna get the first round. Oh, you know, I'll get the second round too.

• 22:59Speaker 03

I'm gonna get the foie gras.

• 23:01Connor Wood?

I'm not gonna get groceries. I'm gonna eat out every day.

• 23:03Speaker 03

  Ew, no, no, no.

• 23:04Connor Wood?

Towards the end of that amazing summer where all of my friends were like grad school or something, so like everybody was kind of unemployed.

• 23:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:11Connor Wood?

I finally was like, oh, I need to get a job. I got this job. And they were like, you have to start.

• 23:14Speaker 03

  What year was it?

• 23:15Connor Wood?

  Twenty...

• 23:18Connor Wood?

  Twenty?

• 23:19Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 23:19Connor Wood?

  Or twenty?

• 23:20Speaker 03

  This is during the pandemic?

• 23:21Connor Wood?

  Right inches before.

• 23:23Speaker 03

Okay, that was my thing too, moving here, right before.

• 23:26Connor Wood?

So I moved, I moved, when I moved to LA, I like couldn't, I was broke and I couldn't get into an apartment.

• 23:31Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 23:32Connor Wood?

  Um...

• 23:33Speaker 03

Like you couldn't find one to move into?

• 23:34Connor Wood?

I found one, but the lease didn't serve for, again, for like a month. And my job was like, you have to start in two weeks, or you can't have the job.

• 23:40Speaker 03

  Where'd you work?

• 23:41Connor Wood?

  Uh, Bird, a scooter company.

• 23:43Speaker 03

  Oh, okay.

• 23:44Connor Wood?

  And so I was...

• 23:45Speaker 03

I thought you worked for a talent agency for some reason, but...

• 23:48Connor Wood?

  No.

• 23:49Speaker 03

Misunderstanding. You just have that vibe. You have like an agent vibe.

• 23:52Connor Wood?

  Oh, that's not a compliment.

• 23:53Speaker 03

  I think it's cool.

• 23:54Connor Wood?

  Just kidding.

• 23:55Speaker 03

I don't know many agents, but I think it's like as one sneeze bag to the next.

• 23:59Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 23:59Speaker 03

  I think that's cool.

• 24:00Connor Wood?

I need to introduce you to my buddy Scooter. So I, I, so I'm, I'm, I'm trying to find an apartment.

• 24:06Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 24:07Connor Wood?

Um, and I get on Craigslist.

• 24:11Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 24:12Connor Wood?

I needed one for like two and a half weeks.

• 24:13Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 24:14Connor Wood?

  And I...

• 24:17Connor Wood?

Found a place that was really cheap.

• 24:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, how much was it?

• 24:20Connor Wood?

It was like three hundred dollars for the whole time that I needed.

• 24:24Speaker 03

  Fuck.

• 24:24Connor Wood?

And then I started reading the fine print. It was like an older gentleman who wanted someone to clean his house, like while they lived there, like you.

• 24:30Speaker 03

  Not a bad deal.

• 24:31Connor Wood?

  Your live-in cleaner.

• 24:32Speaker 03

I used to be a janitor, so.

• 24:34Connor Wood?

Well, I was just kind of thinking that it's even like a live-in. I'm like, what are you doing to the house that makes it that dirty and you live by yourself? And yeah, then I was like, he's probably gonna have sex, try to have sex with me. So I dipped on that and I'm like, okay, I dodged a bullet. That's really good.

• 24:50Speaker 03

  But did he try?

• 24:51Connor Wood?

  I didn't do it.

• 24:52Speaker 03

Oh, okay. Oh, I see, I see, I see.

• 24:54Connor Wood?

  I didn't do it.

• 24:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 24:55Connor Wood?

Which like I should, I should be very clear because like I am someone that would be like, it's, you're saving, I'm saving money. Like it's a certain amount of money and like, and I really wanted to like flag it and be like, if you are thinking about doing this,

• 25:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:05Connor Wood?

reach out to me and we can figure out a solution for you together.

• 25:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:09Connor Wood?

So, uh, I move into this, this woman's apartment.

• 25:12Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 25:13Connor Wood?

  For two weeks.

• 25:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:15Connor Wood?

And pretty quickly I realized that she is naked.

• 25:17Speaker 03

Also wants to have sex with you.

• 25:18Connor Wood?

Yeah, she, or like, maybe it was like a harmless nudity, but she was an older woman.

• 25:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:22Connor Wood?

  Um, naked the whole time.

• 25:24Speaker 03

  The whole time.

• 25:24Connor Wood?

Couldn't, she didn't eat meat or anything, so I couldn't have any meat in the house.

• 25:28Speaker 03

Yeah. That's more of a red flag to me than the nudity.

• 25:32Connor Wood?

The nudity was a little bit brutal.

• 25:34Speaker 03

Cause living that live, but like, don't create my style. Like I need, I need some meat sometimes.

• 25:38Connor Wood?

The, one thing about her, she would like hang her underwear everywhere, like

• 25:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:43Connor Wood?

for it to dry. And I was like, why is all her underwear so wet?

• 25:47Speaker 03

  No dryer?

• 25:48Connor Wood?

  What?

• 25:48Speaker 03

  No dryer?

• 25:50Connor Wood?

I don't remember ever doing laundry there, but I'm, I guess I must have, but her underwear was everywhere. Like I couldn't like FaceTime someone without them being like, oh, like

• 25:59Speaker 03

  panties.

• 25:59Connor Wood?

The bachelor pad. I'm like, no, the woman that lives in this apartment is just naked. All, all like, I don't think she's ever put this underwear on. I was a very depr- looking back, I like want to grab my younger self and be like.

• 26:12Connor Wood?

Good job for powering through. I don't know how you did it. Thinking about me in that situation now. Oh, it makes me wanna vomit.

• 26:18Speaker 03

But I think, though, that sometimes, like, I know we live in a world where pretty much every, a lot of people want everything to be easy and like entertaining all the time. But I do think those kinds of experiences were like you're forced to deal with something that like objectively sucks.

• 26:33Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 26:33Speaker 03

Like, makes you a better person. It's like character building. It brings you closer to what I think is like the source. You start asking the big questions. Like, what the fuck am I doing here? Why do I even wanna be in LA? Why are there panties all around my head? Like, is this worth it? Do I really wanna do it? And like, it did kinda bring you to where you are now, which is sick. So it totally was.

• 26:58Speaker 03

  You know what I mean?

• 26:58Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 26:59Speaker 03

Yeah. I actually got you beat, though, on the, on the sketchy living situation.

• 27:02Connor Wood?

  Do you?

• 27:03Speaker 03

So right now, I live in a storage unit in Brooklyn, New York. And that, well, it's not a storage unit, it's a shipping container.

• 27:10Connor Wood?

Okay, I was gonna say like-

• 27:11Speaker 03

  It's a shipping container.

• 27:12Connor Wood?

I don't know if you wanna say that on-

• 27:13Speaker 03

  No, no, no.

• 27:14Connor Wood?

  Cause I think that's illegal.

• 27:15Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a shipping container in a venue in Brooklyn.

• 27:19Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 27:21Speaker 03

And it's a music venue and there's like music happening there all the time. And it was my band's old rehearsal spot. And at some point, I was like, fellas, I can't afford an apartment.

• 27:31Speaker 03

I'm kicking y'all out and I'm moving in.

• 27:33Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 27:34Speaker 03

And I'm not the first person to do this. Like, this place has kind of a history of, uh, you know, vagrants like myself doing similar things, but-

• 27:40Connor Wood?

  You're a very clean vagrant.

• 27:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 27:43Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 27:43Speaker 03

My suit's like pressed up against like thumbtack to the wall right now, like-

• 27:46Connor Wood?

  You should get it framed.

• 27:48Speaker 03

Yo. Okay, so I always wanted to frame a pair of pants, like a full up pair of jeans, but I never had the money to do it.

• 27:54Connor Wood?

  It's expensive.

• 27:55Speaker 03

It'd be super expensive. I mean, you know, shadow boxing is no joke.

• 27:58Connor Wood?

  Shadow boxing is no joke.

• 27:59Speaker 03

I always wanted to do like a promotional stunt where I, like a performance art piece where they framed me. And we mounted me to the wall and I stood in there like endurance test all day. And I was just in there and you could come and like I'd be a spectacle. You know, and at the end of the day, I would just smash through the glass and walk out and it'd be like some good press, I think, for whatever shop wanted to do that.

• 28:21Connor Wood?

I, I, that's, this came up because, that's what Emmy Fly did too, that, um, that was the whole, did you, wait, how did you, did you get wind that we talked about you on the podcast?

• 28:33Speaker 03

Okay, yes. So I was on my way to work and I got a text from my boss, all caps, "Ray", and I'm like, "Fuck, I'm getting fired. I don't know what I did. I'm getting fucking fired. Moving back to fucking Buffalo." Like, what did I do wrong? And then I just got a clip of that one Instagram story and I was like, "Oh, it's that guy. Sick." And I didn't know who you were.

• 28:55Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 28:56Speaker 03

And after you came in for the first time, my two coworkers were like, "Do you know how that was?" And I was like, "No." They're like, "That's Connor Wood." And I was like, "She looks like a nice guy to me." And they were familiar with your work.

• 29:05Connor Wood?

  What was the clip?

• 29:06Speaker 03

It was, uh, it just says, "Framed by Ray."

• 29:08Connor Wood?

  Framed by Ray?

• 29:09Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:10Connor Wood?

  Oh, yeah.

• 29:11Speaker 03

  Part of the lore.

• 29:11Connor Wood?

  Yeah, we have it.

• 29:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, we have it.

• 29:13Connor Wood?

  We have it somewhere.

• 29:14Speaker 03

  We have it somewhere.

• 29:15Connor Wood?

Um, wait, I'm gonna, I'm gonna-

• 29:17Speaker 03

And then I started getting texts, because I was not familiar with the podcast, and I started getting texts from people I don't get texts from. Like, some people I get texts from, like some of my old coworkers, and then like, I'm calling my friend Davis, um, down in Texas, and his, like, little sister, Lexi, is like, "Put, put me on the phone with Ray." And she's like, "Ray, you're on Connor and Brooke Make a Podcast." And I'm like, "You listen to that?" She's like, "I'm the biggest fan." And I'm like, "All right, cool." And she's like, "If you go on it, you have to shout me out." So shout out Lexi Diaz.

• 29:47Connor Wood?

  Shout out Lexi Diaz.

• 29:48Speaker 03

  Lexi Diaz, my girl.

• 29:49Connor Wood?

  Oh, that's so fun.

• 29:50Speaker 03

  My girl down in Texas.

• 29:50Connor Wood?

  Oh, wait.

• 29:51Speaker 03

But it was, it was flattering.

• 29:52Connor Wood?

Here, we have the, we have the clip.

• 29:54Speaker 03

  Mmm.

• 29:54Connor Wood?

  I wanna listen to it.

• 29:58Speaker 03

Yeah, you had the bucket hat on. You're all fitted up.

• 30:00Speaker 04

  Are you familiar with Framebridge?

• 30:01Speaker 05

No, but I'm getting the sense that it's like a framing store.

• 30:04Speaker 04

I just wish you were around to hear just how much Connor was speaking about Framebridge.

• 30:08Speaker 05

Is this a new place for you, Connor?

• 30:10Speaker 06

They frame anything. You can take anything in there and get it framed. It's like-

• 30:13Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 30:13Speaker 06

And like, I'm talking to this guy, Ray.

• 30:15Speaker 05

  Ray from Framebridge?

• 30:17Speaker 06

Yeah, and- It's kinda like, frame this. He's like, okay.

• 30:21Connor Wood?

And that was really our, that was really the extent of our conversation.

• 30:24Speaker 03

I was like, nice dude. I don't even, I think you were framing the bag of your merch.

• 30:28Connor Wood?

I was doing the totes from the, yeah, the, the stand-up tour.

• 30:31Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 30:31Connor Wood?

Um, I did all three of the, three legs of the tour.

• 30:34Speaker 03

You have it hanging up in your apartment right now?

• 30:36Connor Wood?

Well, I don't have an apartment right now.

• 30:37Speaker 03

Fuck. You have a storage unit right now?

• 30:39Connor Wood?

  I'm in, I'm also, yeah.

• 30:41Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:41Connor Wood?

Living out of a storage unit. It was fun.

• 30:42Speaker 03

Yo, you should, we should put bunks in my spot.

• 30:44Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 30:45Speaker 03

  It'll be super cheap.

• 30:47Connor Wood?

  Bunk bedding.

• 30:47Speaker 03

  Dude, it'd be sick.

• 30:49Connor Wood?

  In the venue.

• 30:49Speaker 03

It'd be sick. We'd fucking tear it up in there.

• 30:51Connor Wood?

Um, I... Forget what I, I didn't have anywhere I was going with that.

• 31:00Speaker 03

Oh, well, we were talking about the first time we met and, uh, and you coming into the store and all that stuff. And then there was all this excitement around that and like my, in my world. So, thank you for that, Connor.

• 31:11Connor Wood?

  Thanks for having me.

• 31:12Speaker 03

  Oh, anytime.

• 31:13Connor Wood?

It's really great. I know. We were talking about Framebridge. I was kinda in like a Framebridge honeymoon.

• 31:17Speaker 03

Yeah, you were. It was sick. It was so sweet.

• 31:19Connor Wood?

Yeah, it was awesome. I like, couldn't wait to, I was like going and picking up random stuff on the street to be like, I'm gonna take this and get this framed.

• 31:26Speaker 03

That's what everyone says. They come in, they're just like, I didn't know you can get this framed. It's like, baby girl, you can frame anything you want.

• 31:30Connor Wood?

You really can't up to a certain size because they had to.

• 31:32Speaker 03

  Forty by sixty.

• 31:33Connor Wood?

  They did, they did trim.

• 31:34Speaker 03

Forty by sixty. They did trim some shit up.

• 31:36Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 31:37Speaker 03

But, yeah, then, uh, I didn't see you for a while and I was bummed because I was like, yo, I gotta accost this man. I gotta accost this man who shouted me out, right? And you came in and you were like, I thought I scared you off. And I was like, nah, bro. I've been waiting to see you. I just didn't get on the schedule until you, uh, popped in, you know? And then I was like, yo, you should have me in your podcast. And I'm like, I really don't wanna be that guy, like, begging for some shit, but I do have some stories.

• 32:02Connor Wood?

Yeah. Wha- what are these stories that you?

• 32:06Speaker 03

  I have a couple.

• 32:06Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 32:07Speaker 03

  I've been racking my brain.

• 32:08Connor Wood?

  Hit me with one.

• 32:08Speaker 03

Uh, one of my favorites is my first frame shop, the one in Fairhaven. I met a murderer. Um, my boss's boy came in one day, just like kinda chilled with us all day. And it was his friend from, I think, high school. We just kicked it. Guy had like sick taste in music. Told me he like, was into Beck and like Velvet Revolver. And I was like, hell, yeah, I love Beck, you know? I love Velvet Revolver. And then he just like laughed and you know, whatever he goes to grad school. And then I come into work one day and my boss James is just like, yo, like, remember that guy who came in? To help us out, like just kind of hang out with us. And I was like, yeah. And he's like, yeah, he's like going to prison for life. And I was like, why is he going to prison for life? And it's like, cause he murdered his roommate.

• 32:52Speaker 03

Cause he had a psychotic breakdown at school. And he thought that there was this secret societies. On, or in his peripheral, one good, one evil. And they were coming together and they were telling him, he thought there was like secret messages from his two roommates. Saying like, hey, we're part of the good guys. We need you to kill the other one. When we leave the house and as soon as you do this. It's gonna be all good. We're gonna get you out of here. Like this good axis of good is going to save you.

• 33:20Connor Wood?

Could you imagine being like the people that he's projecting these messages?

• 33:24Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 33:24Connor Wood?

To me like, I never fucking called him to kill the guy.

• 33:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 33:31Connor Wood?

  And then he did.

• 33:32Speaker 03

Low key can't imagine that sort of thing.

• 33:33Connor Wood?

  How, uh, old was he?

• 33:35Speaker 03

Hmm. I was a young buck back then, but probably like as old as I am now, which is 29. So, which is weird to think about. He was in grad school. I mean, he was not that old. And probably actually, no, he's probably in his 30s. Cause my boss was like in his 30s. He had like a kid and another kid on the way. So I'm gonna say like mid 30s. So yeah, met a murderer. Uh, one of my other favorite ones is this dude comes into the frame shop in the upper west and we're talking like bullshitting. Um, and I'm like, oh, I play in a band. And he's like, oh yeah, so do I. And I'm like, yeah, whatever, old man. And he's like, uh, are you on Spotify? And I'm like, yeah, I'm on Spotify. And he's like, I have my bands on Spotify and I have millions of monthly listeners on Spotify. And I'm like.

• 34:18Speaker 03

I'm gonna put you in a home, bro. Okay. Like you don't, you probably are lost. You don't know what's good with the Spotify numbers. I type it in and it's King Harvest. Do you know this band?

• 34:29Connor Wood?

  Sounds so familiar.

• 34:30Speaker 03

It's like a one hit wonder from the seventies. They have a song Dancing in the Moonlight. He was in the Beach Boys, this dude. Dancing in the moonlight. Yeah, that everyone covers. He wrote that song.

• 34:41Connor Wood?

  Is that their song?

• 34:42Speaker 03

Yeah, and a lot of people covered it.

• 34:44Connor Wood?

  King Harvest.

• 34:45Speaker 03

But yeah, he came in and was like, but I'll check out your band too. And I'm like, I have 90 monthly listeners and you just mog the shit out of me, bro.

• 34:54Connor Wood?

They had one hit, Yours Is Coming.

• 34:56Speaker 03

Yeah, probably not, but it's okay. Um, and then I walk in the back and my boss, his name's Joshi. I'm just like, uh, Joshi, you know this band, King Harvest? They have this song Dancing in the Moonlight. She's way older than me. She's in her like late 60s. She's like, uh, yeah, right. Everyone knows King Harvest Dancing in the Moonlight. And I'm like, well, I'll go fuck myself then.

• 35:14Connor Wood?

I, I know the song, but.

• 35:16Speaker 03

  Banger.

• 36:48Connor Wood?

Also, the Beach Boys, like, I feel like everybody was in the Beach Boys. I didn't know that they had like a rotating cast of people. It's not like The Beatles where it's like four dudes. It's like...

• 36:55Speaker 03

But it really was, uh... If I forget this name, I'm gonna lose all music credibility on here. It's like... Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson. Thank you. I was gonna say Brian Johnson, but I was just listening to Brian Johnson Massacre on the way over here. Brian Wilson.

• 37:07Connor Wood?

  Wait, Brian?

• 37:08Speaker 03

Brian Wilson is the Beach Boy. And then there's Mike Love, who's like the axis of evil Beach Boy.

• 37:14Connor Wood?

  I don't...

• 37:14Speaker 03

People don't fuck with Mike Love.

• 37:16Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 37:16Speaker 03

I don't know why, but everyone loves Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson's cool.

• 37:20Connor Wood?

Were you saying you were listening to that guy that's doing the... The face injections on the way here?

• 37:26Speaker 03

Oh, no, but he does have the same name.

• 37:28Connor Wood?

  Brian Johnson?

• 37:28Speaker 03

It's Brian Jon... Brian Jonestown Massacre, but it's like kinda spelled the same way.

• 37:32Connor Wood?

  What... What's Jonestown Massacre?

• 37:34Speaker 03

Oh, it's like the psych rock band from California.

• 37:37Connor Wood?

  Oh, sick.

• 37:38Speaker 03

I, uh, I needed to get myself in the zone, you know?

• 37:41Connor Wood?

  Yeah, totally.

• 37:42Speaker 03

That's why I needed to put on some Brian Jonestown Massacre on the way over here, get a little loose, you know what I mean?

• 37:46Connor Wood?

  I called my grandma.

• 37:48Speaker 03

  How's she?

• 37:48Connor Wood?

  She's good.

• 37:49Speaker 03

  Yeah? How old is she?

• 37:51Connor Wood?

  Seventy-nine.

• 37:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, she's young.

• 37:53Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 37:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 37:54Connor Wood?

  She had kids really young.

• 37:55Speaker 03

Sick. What's she doing? Where's she at? Austin?

• 37:58Connor Wood?

No, she's in Idaho, but she, uh...

• 38:01Speaker 03

  Idaho's sick.

• 38:02Connor Wood?

It was funny. This is gnarly, but I remember, like, over, uh... Some break recently, we're talking to her, and I was like, "Why did you... Why is one of my aunt's middle name whatever?" And she's like, "I was sixteen."

• 38:17Speaker 03

  Wait, what is it?

• 38:18Connor Wood?

  I don't even remember which...

• 38:20Speaker 03

  Your aunt's middle name?

• 38:21Connor Wood?

Aunt, but it was, it's like a weird middle name. It's like random, you know? It's like Ashley or something. I'm like, "Why did you... Why'd you choose Ashley?" She was like, "I was sixteen. I don't know."

• 38:28Speaker 03

  Huh.

• 38:29Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 38:29Speaker 03

  Is she always from Idaho?

• 38:31Connor Wood?

  She's always from Idaho.

• 38:32Speaker 03

  Damn, that's sick. What part?

• 38:34Connor Wood?

So typical of her to be from Idaho. Uh, Sun Valley.

• 38:37Speaker 03

Uh, okay. That's where they do the potatoes, right?

• 38:40Connor Wood?

  I think the whole state.

• 38:42Speaker 03

Yeah, but they have like Sun Valley Idaho potatoes. That's like a brand, I believe. I could be wrong.

• 38:46Connor Wood?

  You could be right.

• 38:47Speaker 03

True. You ever go out there?

• 38:48Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 38:49Speaker 03

  Yeah?

• 38:49Connor Wood?

  I love it out there.

• 38:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 38:50Connor Wood?

  Idaho's amazing.

• 38:50Speaker 03

  Fucking beautiful.

• 38:51Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 38:51Speaker 03

I passed through, what's that lake, the big one?

• 38:54Connor Wood?

  Coeur d'Alene?

• 38:55Speaker 03

  Coeur d'Alene.

• 38:56Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 38:56Speaker 03

Yeah. Coeur d'Alene's sick and kinda eerie. I was driving up in those hills one night when I was like 18 and I was looking for a place to camp. And me and my buddy just got a bad vibe, because you can pull over there. Um, and you can camp like the state law says, you can just camp on the side of the road.

• 39:13Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 39:13Speaker 03

I'm on home and he was like, yeah, let's just do it. And I'm like, dude, like, low key, kinda feels like deliverance out here. Like, we're getting higher and higher up into the hills. And we just drove to Spokane that night.

• 39:23Connor Wood?

  Yeah, it is, um,

• 39:26Connor Wood?

I'm gonna get this so wrong, I'm gonna butcher this, but it's in, it's in this suicide belt.

• 39:31Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 39:32Connor Wood?

  Yeah, and it's in...

• 39:33Speaker 03

  The white supremacy belt?

• 39:34Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 39:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 39:35Connor Wood?

  Which is like

• 39:37Connor Wood?

  crazy Venn diagram.

• 39:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 39:39Connor Wood?

  You know?

• 39:39Speaker 03

Well, one might lead to the other.

• 39:41Connor Wood?

Yeah, I'm sure some way, like, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna like

• 39:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 39:45Connor Wood?

be able to make that leap myself here on the Broken Connaught Make a Podcast, featuring Ray today. But, um, it is interesting.

• 39:52Speaker 03

  The Murder Mystery Podcast.

• 39:54Connor Wood?

Well, they, my, I don't like Murder Mystery.

• 39:57Speaker 03

  Yeah, neither do I.

• 39:57Connor Wood?

I wanna think that I'm better than Murder Mystery low key. I'm on my phone, 7:35 AM, watching a Snapchat tile news story of like, the murderer who killed his roommate because his other roommate sold him to. I mean, that's my first thing I consume in the morning.

• 40:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 40:10Connor Wood?

Before I have water, I watch two murder documentaries, you know, in my bed.

• 40:15Speaker 03

You know what I'm really into right now?

• 40:16Connor Wood?

  Huh?

• 40:16Speaker 03

Is the videos of people selling the food out of their trunks. You ever seen this now, Seth?

• 40:20Connor Wood?

  The buckets of...

• 40:20Speaker 03

They're eating the pineapple in the Kool-Aid.

• 40:22Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 40:22Speaker 03

  That's really sick. I think it's cool.

• 40:25Connor Wood?

  This shit, yeah.

• 40:26Speaker 03

I think bands should do that. I think a band is a promotional thing, should go down and eat the pineapple slice out of the Kool-Aid bucket and eat the waffles with the...

• 40:39Speaker 03

Cereal on it and the Takis coated chicken drumsticks.

• 40:44Connor Wood?

Well, this stuff goes viral all the time. It is, we live in like such a weird

• 40:47Speaker 03

  It's fucking awesome.

• 40:47Connor Wood?

place where like people running for congress are like, I need to go do the press junket where I like

• 40:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 40:52Connor Wood?

run into someone at, you know, on the street and they ask me like, the guy that does the, name these five songs.

• 40:58Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 40:58Connor Wood?

That's what picks up. It's so crazy to like

• 41:00Speaker 03

  Yeah, I know.

• 41:00Connor Wood?

We're, we're now in like, we're, we're in a place where like if you release a memoir about like, you're a troubled childhood actor with tons of trauma, then you have to go on like a sidewalk dating show to like promote your book about your

• 41:16Speaker 03

Do you ever have people in political power try and get on this show?

• 41:19Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 41:19Speaker 03

  Really? Did you say yes?

• 41:21Connor Wood?

  No.

• 41:22Speaker 03

  Yeah?

• 41:23Connor Wood?

I can't, I don't know a specific example, but we definitely have inbounds from

• 41:27Speaker 03

  Right.

• 41:27Connor Wood?

  Yeah, in politics.

• 41:28Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right though. I mean, it is what gets the most visibility, you know?

• 41:33Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 41:33Speaker 03

Like Zeron, like that whole thing.

• 41:35Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 41:35Speaker 03

It kind of was that simple in a way. It was like, oh, the guy who's crazy good at social media and like clip farming is gonna win. It's like, he also has awesome politics, but yeah.

• 41:45Connor Wood?

Well, that's how you, I just missed my mouth. That's how you reach people.

• 41:49Speaker 03

  The most people.

• 41:49Connor Wood?

Yeah, it's like, it's fun. Also, if I start talking to you, I'm like, if I asked like a politician and my, my, my go-to question for people is when's the last time you were on a ladder?

• 42:00Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 42:01Connor Wood?

Cause even though I'm asking a question about a ladder,

• 42:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:04Connor Wood?

it's the most grounding question and there's always a story. Because ladders leveled the playing field.

• 42:10Speaker 03

  They do.

• 42:11Connor Wood?

If you're on a ladder, you're putting in work. There's a story there. You're, you know, it's, it's manual labor. You're climbing. You, you, you're not on a ladder for willy-nilly.

• 42:19Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:19Connor Wood?

When's the last time you were on a ladder?

• 42:20Speaker 03

  At work.

• 42:21Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 42:21Speaker 03

I was putting some big ass boxes up on this thing and I'm like, I should just do this. Like, I'm like the one with the most height, so we get up on that ladder. And it was fucking a pain in the ass, but I got on that ladder. What about you?

• 42:33Connor Wood?

I got up on a ladder over the summer in my la- well, no, I fell, I had, I

• 42:37Speaker 03

  Fell?

• 42:37Connor Wood?

Well, my apartment was, I was locked out and I had to climb the scaffolding outside my apartment. And I jumped up to get on the ladder, you know, like jumped from the scaffolding and unhooked and dropped down and like hit my face on the ladder.

• 42:47Speaker 03

Really? You're always getting hit in the face with things.

• 42:49Connor Wood?

  I know.

• 42:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:51Connor Wood?

  And this old thing, um.

• 42:53Speaker 03

  You should get insurance.

• 42:54Connor Wood?

  I have insurance.

• 42:55Speaker 03

  Really?

• 42:55Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 42:56Speaker 03

  That's sick.

• 42:56Connor Wood?

  I know.

• 42:57Speaker 03

  That's kind of a flex.

• 42:58Connor Wood?

  I, uh.

• 42:59Speaker 03

You trying to get a class action lawsuit going after this?

• 43:02Connor Wood?

I just like, it's, everything's my fault every time. So like, like when I got

• 43:06Speaker 03

It could be my fault for the right price.

• 43:08Connor Wood?

  Well.

• 43:09Speaker 03

There's a swing set across the street, I think.

• 43:10Connor Wood?

Yeah, like when I I got hit by a car one time.

• 43:13Speaker 03

  Really?

• 43:13Connor Wood?

  Yeah, hard.

• 43:14Speaker 03

  How was that?

• 43:15Connor Wood?

  Um, it was what?

• 43:16Speaker 03

  How was that?

• 43:17Connor Wood?

It was, it was interesting, cause I get hit by.

• 43:19Speaker 03

  You were on a bike?

• 43:19Connor Wood?

I was on a motor, I was on a bird, scoot here.

• 43:21Speaker 03

  Oh, sick.

• 43:22Connor Wood?

I get hit, I wanna like, I wanna overlay my picture of my bruise on this, so if if people are watching, you can see it. But um, I got, I'm going down this hill and it was when they switched the brakes and it's like a thumb brake now instead of like a bike brake.

• 43:35Speaker 03

  What city are you in?

• 43:36Connor Wood?

  Austin.

• 43:37Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 43:38Connor Wood?

I'm going down this hill, I finally find the brake and it was too late and I get hit by this car. And I was in the air for so long that I was like, I'm like horizontal and I was like, am I still in the air?

• 43:47Speaker 03

  That's sick.

• 43:48Connor Wood?

This is crazy, and then I hit the ground. Um, and, yeah, I I went up two waist sizes. I went from a thirty to a thirty-two.

• 43:55Speaker 03

  Cause of bruises?

• 43:55Connor Wood?

Because of, I guess I was hemorrhaging, low key.

• 43:58Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 43:58Connor Wood?

  Yeah, me when I hemorrhage.

• 43:59Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 44:00Connor Wood?

  And.

• 44:00Speaker 03

  Me when I hemorrhage.

• 44:01Connor Wood?

Yeah, it was uh, it was crazy. And then when I was interviewing at Bird, I think I did like, six interviews.

• 44:08Speaker 03

Oh wait, was this before you got the job at Bird?

• 44:10Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 44:10Speaker 03

  Damn.

• 44:11Connor Wood?

And I'd be like, yeah, and I got hit by a car.

• 44:13Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 44:14Connor Wood?

You know, like, and I'm here and they're like, they were like not finding it funny the first time and then so I was like, I'll deliver it differently the second time.

• 44:21Speaker 03

  Right, right, right.

• 44:21Connor Wood?

Working on stand-up at my job interview. I delivered it differently the second time and then my third time I did it and they were like, you need to stop telling people.

• 44:29Speaker 03

  Why?

• 44:31Connor Wood?

Cause it's a really sore subject over there, like half of the company is, is.

• 44:35Speaker 03

  Come on, man.

• 44:36Connor Wood?

  Litigation, it's all.

• 44:37Speaker 03

  Gotta get a leg up.

• 44:37Connor Wood?

It's government and lawyers, cause so many people are getting hit by cars and getting hurt.

• 44:42Speaker 03

Wouldn't hurt if you had a job. It would hurt less if you had a job.

• 44:45Connor Wood?

Well, I didn't have insurance during that, so I just like let it play out. Yeah, my leg, like, my giant leg.

• 44:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:52Connor Wood?

And me, like I'm limping around, I couldn't, I could barely get pants on. Yeah, my giant leg in me.

• 44:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:56Connor Wood?

And I'm dragging it behind me the whole way.

• 44:58Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 44:59Connor Wood?

Um. But it, yeah, it worked out.

• 45:02Speaker 03

  That's sick. I, one time-

• 45:04Connor Wood?

As soon as I got health insurance, by the way, I haven't gotten injured once.

• 45:09Speaker 03

  Yeah, that's how it goes.

• 45:10Connor Wood?

  So annoying.

• 45:11Speaker 03

Yeah. It's like when you don't have an umbrella, you get caught in the rain kind of thing.

• 45:14Connor Wood?

Or when you do have an umbrella, it's hot and you're holding an umbrella.

• 45:17Speaker 03

Well, then it turns into a parasol, protected from the sun, like Princess Peach.

• 45:21Connor Wood?

I gotta get, I'm trying to get tan.

• 45:23Speaker 03

Yeah, that's true. Look at me, man. I mean, I'm like Gollum.

• 45:25Connor Wood?

  You're glowing.

• 45:26Speaker 03

Yeah, I belong in a cave.

• 45:28Connor Wood?

  No.

• 45:28Speaker 03

Uh, I saved a guy's life in front of a grocery store one time when I was applying for a job. Um, and I was just walking in, I was like seventeen, I was like, I need a fucking job, man. And dude's in front of me, in front of the red box machine, starts foaming at the mouth. And I'm just like, he's like, and I'm like, mister, are you okay? And then he face plants in front of me and blood everywhere. And I'm just like, oh my god. And I roll him over and he's just blood and pus coming out of every orifice of his face. And I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ. And I support him because I know when someone's having a stroke, you have to get them like up so they don't choke on their vomit or anything.

• 46:08Connor Wood?

Oh, I would not have gone to stroke. I would have thought like-

• 46:11Speaker 03

I don't know. Getting them up couldn't hurt, is what I thought.

• 46:14Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 46:14Speaker 03

And I'm like, someone call an ambulance. And everyone looks around the parking lot and they're like, looking at me, not doing shit. And then I yell out, I'm like, fine, I'll call a fucking ambulance. And then I called the ambulance, ran in my car, grabbed a spare blanket in my trunk, came back over, put it on him, also something you do when someone has a stroke. Because they get like really cold, I think like the shock does something to the blood temperature. And I just kind of chilled out until the cops came and they took him away. And then I walked in and applied for a job and didn't get it.

• 46:43Connor Wood?

  Double homicide.

• 46:44Speaker 03

But you got the job at Bird.

• 46:46Connor Wood?

  Yeah, I did.

• 46:47Speaker 03

So everything was, all the wrongs were righted.

• 46:50Connor Wood?

Yeah, and then I got fired after like six or seven weeks.

• 46:53Speaker 03

  Really? Cause of COVID?

• 46:56Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 46:56Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 46:57Connor Wood?

I got let go over a Zoom. And it was funny because it was like our head of, head of marketing, put us all into like a.

• 47:05Speaker 03

  Was it multi-fire?

• 47:07Connor Wood?

It was 500, yeah, people. And it was crazy because like, I get this meeting invite and I'm on with my,

• 47:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:13Connor Wood?

My, my boss's boss. I'm on a phone call. We're like catching up.

• 47:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:18Connor Wood?

And I'm walking around and I had, I didn't ever get the remote work. Like I, I, when I was in an office, like it was pre-everybody works remote. So it was like very much in the office. So I thought it was like so cool that I was like taking a call and I'm like not even in the office.

• 47:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 47:32Connor Wood?

And I'm like, I gotta jump. I gotta go into this other meeting. And she goes, what meeting could you be in that I'm not in? And I was like, oh, I don't know. Send you an invite.

• 47:40Speaker 03

  Probably a really important one.

• 47:41Connor Wood?

Yeah. And I sent her the invite and then I hop on and I have it recorded, me getting let go.

• 47:47Speaker 03

Why'd you record it? Just for like legal reasons, just in case?

• 47:48Connor Wood?

Well, I got a feeling in my stomach that this was gonna be like a nefarious phone call.

• 47:53Speaker 03

You low-key can always tell when you're about to get fired.

• 47:55Connor Wood?

Well, it was a pre-recorded message and it goes, hello. It was like Hunger Games.

• 48:01Speaker 03

  Yeah. Hello.

• 48:02Connor Wood?

Hello. And I could see every like 400 people on this call and I was like, this is, you know, maybe it's like a COVID update. Hello. We've decided to inform you that you have been selected to no longer work here.

• 48:13Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 48:13Connor Wood?

Congrat- like it was like that.

• 48:14Speaker 03

The honor is truly all mine.

• 48:16Connor Wood?

I'm, I'm filming and it's funny. I think it was like a Friday morning and my friends all were still like not in the office that I was living with during COVID. And they were having champagne and mimosas because they weren't in, in the office. It was Friday and they weren't in the office and,

• 48:30Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:30Connor Wood?

And I was like, sorry, you guys. Some of us have to work.

• 48:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:33Connor Wood?

And I go downstairs, I get fired and I turn it right around. I go upstairs and go, give me the bottle.

• 48:36Speaker 03

  Yeah, dude. Oh my God.

• 48:39Connor Wood?

They laid me off and then if, if anyone takes anything away right now, it's that if you have a work laptop, do not do personal stuff on it.

• 48:46Speaker 03

  Oh, I made that mistake.

• 48:47Connor Wood?

  When I've gotten let go.

• 48:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 48:50Connor Wood?

They just wiped the computer and it's like, I had my lease on there. I had my, like a bunch of like things I'd, I'd been working on, like on a, like a Photoshop type situation. Photoshop wipes.

• 49:00Speaker 03

  Resume.

• 49:00Connor Wood?

  Resume is gone.

• 49:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:02Connor Wood?

Um, and they, they wiped it and then it was, it was funny because I was like an hour, staying an hour away from my apartment in LA. I bailed on my lease, which I, I've, I've still.

• 49:12Speaker 03

  I had that fan out.

• 49:13Connor Wood?

Well. I didn't have an income. I think it was just like a

• 49:16Speaker 03

Yeah. Well, there's a handshake deal with naked lady.

• 49:19Connor Wood?

That was a two week situation.

• 49:21Speaker 03

Okay, so this is with friends?

• 49:22Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 49:22Speaker 03

  Okay. Clothes?

• 49:25Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 49:25Speaker 03

  Good. Excellent.

• 49:26Connor Wood?

Except one of them. He was kind of always in his underwear.

• 49:29Speaker 03

  Good shape.

• 49:33Speaker 03

  Good enough.

• 49:34Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 49:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:35Connor Wood?

But, um, yeah, I had to get out of that lease and then they were like, you, they had given me a scooter.

• 49:42Speaker 03

  Mm hmm.

• 49:42Connor Wood?

And they were like, you need to return that. I'm like, I'm not

• 49:44Speaker 03

I will just burp my ass over to the office.

• 49:46Connor Wood?

Come get it. It's like 400 pounds. I'm not gonna go. And they go, you can keep it.

• 49:51Speaker 03

  Nice.

• 49:52Connor Wood?

  I don't want a bird scooter.

• 49:53Speaker 03

  Did you sell it?

• 49:54Connor Wood?

Uh, I gave it to my, my aunt and uncle who live down there, but, um.

• 50:00Speaker 03

Yeah, I also made the work laptop mistake because I was doing everything off a Chromebook. And then my company was like, do you want a Mac? And I was like, sure. That sounds cool. My only question was, can I use GarageBand on this thing? And they were like, yeah, we don't care. And I had like a lot of music made on that. And I thought they were just gonna let me keep it. And the last day did not. And I had to do a little haggling. Still lost everything I made on that laptop, but I had another one after that. So I'd like, enough, enough good stuff.

• 50:27Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 50:27Speaker 03

To not be mad about it. It's okay.

• 50:30Connor Wood?

  I can't relate. I lost everything.

• 50:32Speaker 03

  Really?

• 50:32Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 50:32Speaker 03

What'd you get back if you could?

• 50:33Connor Wood?

I don't remember like what I used to do. Like, I don't remember what I used to do.

• 50:37Speaker 03

  What were you photoshopping?

• 50:38Connor Wood?

I don't know. I have no idea what I was doing, but I had a lot of files.

• 50:41Speaker 03

  Hmm.

• 50:42Connor Wood?

  But I wanted to do

• 50:42Speaker 03

  Yeah, of course.

• 50:43Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 50:44Speaker 03

Yeah, it's sick to have, it's sick to have files.

• 50:46Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 50:46Speaker 03

Like a dossier. You know what that is?

• 50:49Connor Wood?

  No.

• 50:49Speaker 03

It's like a collection of files and it sounds like really menacing. If you wanna fuck with someone, just text them like, yo, I'm about to release the dossier. That's like bad news.

• 50:59Connor Wood?

Oh, I'm gonna start using dossier.

• 51:00Speaker 03

Yeah, dossier. It's like Epstein files.

• 51:02Connor Wood?

Ray's dossier. Oh, yeah, totally like Epstein files.

• 51:05Speaker 03

You know I got a dossier going for me.

• 51:06Connor Wood?

  That's what, that's the title, Ray's dossier.

• 51:08Speaker 03

  Ray's dossier, babe.

• 51:09Connor Wood?

Um, no, yeah, I, I, like, it's weird thinking about, there was one time at work.

• 51:15Speaker 03

  Mm hmm.

• 51:16Connor Wood?

I shared my screen. I've, I've, this is the first and last time I have ever shared my screen.

• 51:20Speaker 03

  Yeah, never.

• 51:21Connor Wood?

I was only in a professional setting.

• 51:23Speaker 03

  Right.

• 51:23Connor Wood?

Truly like in an office before I started doing this for such a short time.

• 51:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 51:28Connor Wood?

A lot of the things that I was doing in the office were like my first time I was presenting at a meeting. I go to share my screen.

• 51:34Speaker 03

  Right.

• 51:36Connor Wood?

I shared a window and the window I shared with seventeen LinkedIn tabs applying to other jobs.

• 51:41Speaker 03

  That's wonderful.

• 51:42Connor Wood?

And I started to close out and they kept pop, like the other one would pop up and I was like, and I didn't know how to unshare. It was like for my job at other company, like

• 51:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 51:50Connor Wood?

competitor companies. I was like, I, I just hated the job so much and

• 51:53Speaker 03

  Damn.

• 51:54Connor Wood?

Yeah. I made the mistake one day of, I made a lot of mistakes, but I

• 52:00Speaker 03

  Such is life.

• 52:00Connor Wood?

Yeah. No, I just like, one day I was like, I'm not like doing anything at this job, like

• 52:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:06Connor Wood?

  low key, I

• 52:07Speaker 03

  Let's open seventeen LinkedIn tabs.

• 52:09Connor Wood?

  So bored.

• 52:09Speaker 03

  Fucking go.

• 52:10Connor Wood?

And my boss was so cool. She was like, if you're done with your work, you can go home. And I was like, I'm so broke and I, they have free food there. So I was like, I'm just staying here to eat my three meals.

• 52:18Speaker 03

Exactly. I'm gonna go to a supply closet, hang out for a couple hours, come back at dinnertime, get the rest of the food, then go home on my bird scooter.

• 52:26Connor Wood?

I looked like, you know, when you get those ads on TikTok and it's like, hey fatty, your cortisol is high. And I'm like, I know, like I looked like the before.

• 52:35Speaker 03

  Damn.

• 52:35Connor Wood?

So many peanut M and M's.

• 52:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:37Connor Wood?

Which were really like showing up in my face.

• 52:39Speaker 03

The top two M and M's right there.

• 52:41Connor Wood?

  The peanut M and M's?

• 52:42Speaker 03

Yeah. Top two are pretzel and, uh, and peanut.

• 52:45Connor Wood?

I'm not seeing you or hearing you with the pretzel, but I sand with you.

• 52:48Speaker 03

Let's go get some after this.

• 52:49Connor Wood?

  Yeah, I

• 52:50Speaker 03

Get a beer, like a shitload of pretzel M and M's.

• 52:52Connor Wood?

  F with the pretzel M and M's. I think that's

• 52:54Speaker 03

I, I'd be effing with them.

• 52:55Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 52:56Speaker 03

I'd be effing with them heavy.

• 52:57Connor Wood?

There's like a lid for every pot.

• 52:59Speaker 03

Yeah. Is that what they say? Is that like, wait, what the fuck does that mean? Lid for every?

• 53:03Connor Wood?

It's like when, when the crazy couple that like, or like the, like, there's a, there's a girl that I went to college with that's just like

• 53:12Speaker 03

  Insane.

• 53:13Connor Wood?

  Truly, truly so unique.

• 53:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:16Connor Wood?

  That I was like

• 53:17Speaker 03

Good way or like a not a good way?

• 53:19Connor Wood?

Just very unique. She's, I would call her a friend.

• 53:22Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm. Okay.

• 53:23Connor Wood?

And I just think she's just

• 53:27Connor Wood?

And then she gets engaged to like, you know, this like

• 53:30Speaker 03

  Who?

• 53:31Connor Wood?

  Good looking dude and

• 53:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:32Connor Wood?

And I'm like, there's a lid for every pot. Like

• 53:34Speaker 03

  That's true.

• 53:35Connor Wood?

She was meant to find this person and I, I, they must be a match or she has a gun. So.

• 53:41Speaker 03

Maybe he has a gun too.

• 53:42Connor Wood?

  Yeah, they're a match.

• 53:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:44Connor Wood?

  It's great.

• 53:45Speaker 03

You think it's hard to date in New York?

• 53:46Connor Wood?

  No.

• 53:48Speaker 03

  Why is that?

• 53:49Connor Wood?

  There's just so many people.

• 53:51Speaker 03

Yeah, I think there's like 13 women for every one man.

• 53:53Connor Wood?

  Really?

• 53:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:54Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 53:55Speaker 03

That's just crazy. But I kind of feel like you can go on a lot of dates, but the cruel fact of life is there's probably only like, there's like many fish in the sea. There's many lids, many pots. There's probably only like five lids that are really gonna rock at any given moment.

• 54:12Connor Wood?

  Are you dating?

• 54:14Speaker 03

  Like here and there.

• 54:15Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 54:15Speaker 03

Yeah. Like, no, it's not my priority right now.

• 54:17Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 54:18Speaker 03

Yeah. Priorities moving out of the.

• 54:20Connor Wood?

Yeah, I was gonna say, I didn't wanna say, like, I didn't wanna go there, but like, if you were like, should we go back to mine and? Well, have you done that?

• 54:28Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 54:29Connor Wood?

  That's so funny.

• 54:30Speaker 03

  Absolutely.

• 54:30Connor Wood?

I would be like, oh my God, Ray is just gonna murder me tonight.

• 54:34Speaker 03

Yeah, it's a little like lovely bones pill. But, but.

• 54:38Connor Wood?

  Glad you, this, yeah.

• 54:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:40Connor Wood?

  I'm glad that you.

• 54:40Speaker 03

Know that, yeah. But, I don't know. I guess there is a lid for every pot, cuz sometimes it's just like, there's a really lovely woman who's like, cool with that.

• 54:48Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 54:48Speaker 03

And she's like, I feel safe even though this is like, kinda fucking weird. Um, and it's sick. And you have a great time.

• 54:56Connor Wood?

I'm sure it's very cool. Like, it's, it's like, that, that is.

• 54:59Speaker 03

I spent the winter there. It was nuts.

• 55:00Connor Wood?

That is great. Well, I, I just, I think that there, there is a young woman out there that's like, that is so perfect for her story that she's creating, you know? Like, I'm, I'm seeing this girl that's like,

• 55:13Connor Wood?

parents work in private equity, but like, she's different, you know? Even though like, she's spending the summers in Europe.

• 55:19Speaker 03

  Exactly.

• 55:19Connor Wood?

She's spending the evenings in Ray's.

• 55:21Speaker 03

I know. Well, sometimes when you're talking to someone, everything's going really well and you tell them like, yeah, so I'm uh, kind of in like, living in a. Shipping container right now. They're always like, so when do you plan on getting out of that? And I'm like, bitch, like yesterday.

• 55:33Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 55:34Speaker 03

Come on, you know? Soon as something changes fundamentally in my life, I'm getting the fuck out of there.

• 55:39Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 55:40Speaker 03

And it's gonna be awesome when I do.

• 55:42Connor Wood?

I, that's, I mean, I would say a little different, but like, I, like, I just need to, I need to get into my own home. I was in hotels for a little bit.

• 55:48Speaker 03

  Do you like hotels?

• 55:49Connor Wood?

I love hotels, not New York, though.

• 55:51Speaker 03

  Oh, really?

• 55:51Connor Wood?

They're a billion dollars. And also, all of them, they're like, I'm, I have, all I have right now is my big suitcase. It's all my clothes.

• 55:58Speaker 03

  That's sick.

• 55:58Connor Wood?

That's why everyone, like, I'm starting to get comments from people online that are like, didn't you wear that shirt yesterday?

• 56:03Speaker 03

  Really?

• 56:04Connor Wood?

  Yeah. And tomorrow.

• 56:05Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:06Connor Wood?

And last week. I only have three shirts.

• 56:08Speaker 03

You're gonna wring that shit out after this episode.

• 56:09Connor Wood?

  I only have three shirts.

• 56:10Speaker 03

  It's hot outside.

• 56:11Connor Wood?

And people are starting to notice my three shirt.

• 56:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:13Connor Wood?

Uh, the rumors about me having three shirt?

• 56:15Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 56:15Connor Wood?

  True.

• 56:16Speaker 03

I think that's cool, though, because you're like a cartoon character in that way.

• 56:18Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 56:18Speaker 03

And it's your job to be a personality.

• 56:19Connor Wood?

I restart my dumb life every day and it's the exact same thing.

• 56:22Speaker 03

You think Bart Simpson has more than one shirt?

• 56:25Connor Wood?

He might have like 11 of the same.

• 56:27Speaker 03

Which is what you should probably do.

• 56:28Connor Wood?

Yeah, I did actually, I went and got another shirt today, so I have four shirts.

• 56:32Speaker 03

  What'd you get?

• 56:32Connor Wood?

  Um.

• 56:33Speaker 03

  Good?

• 56:33Connor Wood?

  No, well, I mean, yeah, it's just a t-shirt.

• 56:35Speaker 03

  Sick.

• 56:36Connor Wood?

It's a yellow t-shirt from Abercrombie and Fitch.

• 56:38Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, they're kind of coming back, right?

• 56:39Connor Wood?

They're awesome. They just opened a new store on Broadway.

• 56:41Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah?

• 56:42Connor Wood?

  It's huge.

• 56:43Speaker 03

There is, those old catalogs from like the early 2000s are raunchy.

• 56:47Connor Wood?

  They're very horny, yeah.

• 56:48Speaker 03

  Very horny.

• 56:49Connor Wood?

  The, uh, thing came out.

• 56:51Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:51Connor Wood?

Documentary came out and it was like.

• 56:52Speaker 03

  What documentary? About them?

• 56:53Connor Wood?

About Abercrombie and Fitch. And the way that they would cast everybody, it was just like.

• 56:56Speaker 03

  That seems sick.

• 56:57Connor Wood?

The dude was horny. Like, the dude was so.

• 56:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:00Connor Wood?

So sexually charged that it was like.

• 57:02Speaker 03

  Yeah, like Dolph Channing vibe.

• 57:04Connor Wood?

But it, like, it is crazy.

• 57:06Speaker 03

She had a fucking vibe, let's say that.

• 57:08Connor Wood?

It was weird having coming of age and like, I'm being marketed sex.

• 57:13Speaker 03

  I know.

• 57:13Connor Wood?

  For like.

• 57:14Speaker 03

I know, and you're probably like 12 years old.

• 57:15Connor Wood?

My, my ripped jeans and it's like.

• 57:17Speaker 03

And that gust from the mall comes, hits you after like the Annie Anne's and you're just like, oh.

• 57:23Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 57:23Speaker 03

What is this feeling? And it's like, it's Abercrombie and Fitch.

• 57:26Connor Wood?

I'm, I'm oversharing a little bit here, but like.

• 57:28Speaker 03

  Let's hit it.

• 57:29Connor Wood?

I do relate, like, the smell of that colo- like, when I smell that, I'm like, it reminds me of like.

• 57:36Speaker 03

  Being a boy.

• 57:37Connor Wood?

Being a boy, but like, in a bad way, like, all of the, all of the scary, the scary things that happened to a young man, like, very, like.

• 57:44Speaker 03

  Confusing feelings.

• 57:45Connor Wood?

  It reminds me of like.

• 57:48Connor Wood?

  Learning things.

• 57:50Speaker 03

I know exactly what you mean.

• 57:51Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 57:51Speaker 03

I know exactly what you mean.

• 57:52Connor Wood?

  And it's.

• 57:52Speaker 03

That was also kind of exciting.

• 57:54Connor Wood?

No, it is exciting, but it frees me up when I smell it now, because it's like, no.

• 57:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:57Connor Wood?

  Like, what is it?

• 57:58Speaker 03

I was talking to someone the other day, especially with smell, because smell is like the most powerful, like,

• 58:02Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 58:02Speaker 03

memory scent recognition thing. And we're talking about aesthetics and we're talking about, you ever listen to, or like, not listen to, but like, look into like, the Wiki aesthetics, where it's like Global Coffee House. You ever hear about this?

• 58:15Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 58:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:16Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 58:17Speaker 03

It's like Arden Noble Cafe back in the day.

• 58:19Connor Wood?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 58:20Speaker 03

The, the girl puts your records on.

• 58:22Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 58:23Speaker 03

It's playing. They have The Beatles One and Bob Marley Gold for sale, and it smells like you're in the womb. You are comforted.

• 58:32Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 58:32Speaker 03

You know? You know what that doesn't exist anymore? Because everyone drinks iced coffee. The smell of hot coffee is different than the smell of iced coffee, and it's not the same. And so I think that level of comfort, you don't sit in an oversized plush chair when you're drinking iced coffee or a matcha. You're drinking in like, you're sitting in like a prison stool, okay? I want the Friends couch. I want a mug that I can barely hold that's burning the shit out of my fingertips. And I want Corinne Bailey Rae bumping out of the speaker, and I want to be just like, out of the coffee cup, like, I'm home at the Global Coffee House aesthetic.

• 59:07Connor Wood?

  Really aligned.

• 59:08Speaker 03

  You know what I mean?

• 59:09Connor Wood?

I do know what you mean.

• 59:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:10Connor Wood?

I have not, you just woke up something inside me.

• 59:12Speaker 03

  Right?

• 59:13Connor Wood?

Yeah, where, like, I was sitting on a, on a prison stool.

• 59:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:18Connor Wood?

And I'm, like, all of the, all of the furniture now is just like Ikea, whatever, because they want you to get out.

• 59:23Speaker 03

They do want you to get out.

• 59:24Connor Wood?

Oh, my God, whatever, whatever happened to?

• 59:26Speaker 03

  Lounging around.

• 59:27Connor Wood?

Whatever happened to putting your records on?

• 59:28Speaker 03

Dude, for real, that song's so fucking good.

• 59:31Connor Wood?

  Oh, it is really good.

• 59:32Speaker 03

  Every time.

• 59:33Connor Wood?

She just went, and I don't know what Corinne Bailey Rae is up to, but she, I just saw a TikTok of her.

• 59:38Speaker 03

  Was she at the school?

• 59:39Connor Wood?

  She was at the school.

• 59:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, and she's like crying.

• 59:41Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 59:41Speaker 03

The kids are singing the song, it was so sweet. And I was like, there was something about that kind of music too, like that Norah Jones.

• 59:50Speaker 03

Even like that early Maroon Five, like Coldplay, Yellow.

• 59:54Connor Wood?

I'm feeling kind of sad and sick.

• 59:55Speaker 03

Like, all that is music, I think, for adults, and I like that. It's like, you listen to this, you go to the coffee shop, you probably work at Apple, and it's 2004. And everything's fucking awesome, you know? Like, no recession, like optimism, like the tech will save us all.

• 1:00:15Speaker 03

You're just having the best time, you're drinking your big ass cup of coffee, you know? And it's, you, you go to that coffee shop and later you go home to like your loving partner and you probably make dinner together. Once again to Corinne Bailey Rae's, girl, put your records on and you're having like a bottle of wine and you're a fucking adult. And I feel like music doesn't cater to that specific type of person anymore.

• 1:00:40Speaker 03

  And that makes me sad.

• 1:00:41Connor Wood?

  Let him know.

• 1:00:42Speaker 03

  I say it, man.

• 1:00:43Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:44Speaker 03

I say it, I'll say it right here. I want adult music, adult music.

• 1:00:48Connor Wood?

I know, it reminds me of my parents.

• 1:00:50Speaker 03

  What do they listen to?

• 1:00:51Connor Wood?

Nor, well, they was nor, I remember we had this like big, massive like machine.

• 1:00:56Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:00:57Connor Wood?

In our, in our entertainment console, which is like.

• 1:00:59Speaker 03

  So sick.

• 1:01:00Connor Wood?

Yeah, and there were the bottom, it was all CDs.

• 1:01:02Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:03Connor Wood?

But there, we had like a six-disc changer and you'd press like seven.

• 1:01:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:09Connor Wood?

And then it'd play like track one from, yeah, or six, but you'd play whatever track from disc six. And I remember, cause it was like, it was like Santana and Norah Jones.

• 1:01:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:21Connor Wood?

And it was like that vibe. And I remember my mom would like put it on every night and it was like the vibe of like living, growing up in your parents, I'm in like 8pm happens and like there's music playing and you're like eating dinner and.

• 1:01:33Speaker 03

  Epic vibe.

• 1:01:33Connor Wood?

  You have homework?

• 1:01:35Speaker 03

  I know.

• 1:01:37Speaker 03

I think about going to grad school sometimes, but I really like have a fear of homework.

• 1:01:41Connor Wood?

There was one night I bombed so bad at a comedy show that I walked out, I, my set was supposed to be 12 minutes. I did six minutes, I called it.

• 1:01:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:01:49Connor Wood?

The last thing I said was like, does anyone have a gun? Can you toss it up here for me? Like, did that was like, just like cherry on top of.

• 1:01:56Speaker 03

  Right, right, right.

• 1:01:57Connor Wood?

Me here and I walked out and I just got straight in my car. I didn't even say bye to anyone and.

• 1:02:02Speaker 03

  When was this?

• 1:02:03Connor Wood?

Couple of years, like three years ago.

• 1:02:05Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:02:05Connor Wood?

And I just looked up grad school and I, just in general, like no specific, I was just like, I need to be in.

• 1:02:11Speaker 03

  Grad school.

• 1:02:11Connor Wood?

  I need to be learning.

• 1:02:12Speaker 03

I need a dunce cap in grad school right now.

• 1:02:14Connor Wood?

And I got like to the application and I think I did one page of the application. They're like, you can't even be on the, the, this application, like you're not allowed. So imagine bombing a set and then grad school in general being, you can't do, you can't do this either.

• 1:02:27Speaker 03

  God damn.

• 1:02:28Connor Wood?

Yeah, go, go ahead and try to find your resume.

• 1:02:30Speaker 03

That you made on Photoshop that you don't have anymore. What would you go to grad school for if you could? Anything?

• 1:02:38Speaker 03

  Spelling. It's a good one.

• 1:02:42Connor Wood?

  Anthropology, is that a thing?

• 1:02:43Speaker 03

Yeah. I'd probably, I'd probably go for like, for history or like creative writing.

• 1:02:47Connor Wood?

History, I like history, that's what I'm gonna do.

• 1:02:49Speaker 03

  Yeah. Sick vibe.

• 1:02:52Connor Wood?

Where are we right now? Yeah.

• 1:02:57Connor Wood?

Oh, we're at right now. Okay, cool. That's, oh, that's what I thought. Okay, cool. We can do... Well, we should, we should wrap with something really fun.

• 1:03:06Connor Wood?

Do you have like a gnarly story that you wanted to share before we dip?

• 1:03:10Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:03:11Connor Wood?

  This, by the way.

• 1:03:12Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:03:15Connor Wood?

Please take it from me and my shaky hand, like, do not.

• 1:03:19Speaker 03

  It's a lot.

• 1:03:20Connor Wood?

Drink this. I'm about to shit my pants. I'm shaking and I'm sweating so much. No, it's opposite. I am

• 1:03:29Connor Wood?

in shambles. I'm, this makes me shudder.

• 1:03:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:03:34Connor Wood?

And I regret it. And I'm gonna just look at how many milligrams of caffeine I had on an empty stomach. A lot of potassium.

• 1:03:43Speaker 03

That's good. Probably why you wanna shit.

• 1:03:45Connor Wood?

Yeah, um, it's gonna not tell me how many, which is probably smart.

• 1:03:50Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:03:52Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 1:03:55Connor Wood?

Awesome. Yeah, I'm tossing it over to you. So we, we'll, we'll wrap on our...

• 1:04:00Speaker 03

I'll do like lightning round two, last sickest framing stories. And I'll talk about my favorite people that came in.

• 1:04:06Connor Wood?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:04:06Speaker 03

So on the Upper West, uh, you know who Harry Belafonte is? Thank you.

• 1:04:12Connor Wood?

  I don't, I'm lying.

• 1:04:13Speaker 03

Fuck. I know somebody, I tell this to so many people. He's the king of Calypso. You ever seen Beetlejuice? Jump in line, the scene where they're fucking dancing around the stairs? That's a Harry Belafonte song. Banana Boat, Angelina.

• 1:04:26Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 1:04:29Speaker 03

  I don't know. I can't confirm or deny that.

• 1:04:31Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 1:04:32Speaker 03

But Harry Belafonte is the king of Calypso, um, just music icon. Uh, both of his ex-wives used to come to the frame shop and get stuff framed, both named Julie. So Julie One comes down and she's old as shit. Oldest shit, has like two helpers with her. She's like, she's getting into her years, right? And we help her out and it's all good. She can like barely see. And she took a liking to me because I'm like, you know, a spry young buck.

• 1:04:58Connor Wood?

  Sure.

• 1:04:59Speaker 03

Yeah. Uh, and we help her and it's all good. And then Julie two comes in.

• 1:05:05Connor Wood?

  Oh, not Julie two.

• 1:05:06Speaker 03

They, I think they both kept the last name Belafonte.

• 1:05:10Connor Wood?

  Yeah, I would.

• 1:05:11Speaker 03

They're competing for the title of Harry's ex-wife. And so I asked Julie two, I'm like, yo, like, are you, uh, are you Julie's daughter? Like, are you Julie? Because the other Julie Belafonte comes in, she goes, no, I'm Harry's third ex-wife. I'm the one he died on. And I'm like, oh.

• 1:05:29Connor Wood?

  Congrats.

• 1:05:30Speaker 03

Congrats. And she was considerably younger than Julie one. So Harry was singing some dick, for real.

• 1:05:38Speaker 03

And I just really liked that. It really got me into Harry Belafonte after that. Civil, civil rights icon, like,

• 1:05:43Connor Wood?

I like that they kept the name because I'm doing this thing right now. My buddy Tyler, his last name's Swift.

• 1:05:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:50Connor Wood?

And so I, sometimes we'll, Kai and I will use his, uh, Rezzy app, under his name, and we'll put it down under Tyler Swift. We get the,

• 1:06:00Speaker 03

Oh, because they just don't see it?

• 1:06:02Connor Wood?

No, it just says Tyler Swift and it's like so close that I, and that's his legit name and it like, dings for people and they're like, this is so close to Taylor. That we get the reservation every single time.

• 1:06:11Speaker 03

Damn, that's sick. Shout out dyslexia.

• 1:06:14Connor Wood?

  I know.

• 1:06:15Speaker 03

  Right?

• 1:06:15Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:15Speaker 03

  Just misfeeding that little bit?

• 1:06:16Connor Wood?

I'm getting, I'm getting it, by the way, like I'm,

• 1:06:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, you got the plug?

• 1:06:19Connor Wood?

Some, some things have happened recently where I'm like, I saw a license plate the other day. It was like, E, seven, four, L, A. And I was like, Alex Earl?

• 1:06:33Speaker 03

You saw what you wanted to see.

• 1:06:35Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:36Speaker 03

  That's pretty sick.

• 1:06:36Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:37Speaker 03

Uh, the other thing, the coolest thing I framed, because I get that question a lot, um, it was a gun. A gun. It was a Luger pistol, uh, once again on 70 second.

• 1:06:49Speaker 03

Walked in with it wrapped up in a pillowcase.

• 1:06:53Speaker 03

So can you frame this? And thank God it was the end of the day, cuz I locked that door. And I said, hell, yeah, we can.

• 1:06:58Connor Wood?

  Oh.

• 1:06:59Speaker 03

And we framed the shit out of that gun.

• 1:07:00Connor Wood?

  What, uh, why the pillowcase?

• 1:07:04Speaker 03

So no one saw it. It was like in her purse, and then she took it out of her purse.

• 1:07:08Connor Wood?

  Ooh.

• 1:07:08Speaker 03

  And she had the gun.

• 1:07:09Connor Wood?

  She, her?

• 1:07:10Speaker 03

She was like a vixen. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:12Connor Wood?

  Oh. She just killed Belafonte?

• 1:07:15Speaker 03

Uh, with her love, perhaps. Um, no, I think it was her grandfather. It was like some, like, CIA-type dude. He was up in the Balkans, like, getting into all sorts of shit. And this was his, like, gun that he took on all the missions. And she was getting it framed.

• 1:07:31Connor Wood?

  Wow.

• 1:07:31Speaker 03

And she was like, I'm gonna put this on my mantle. And I'm like, you're the coolest lady I've ever met.

• 1:07:36Connor Wood?

  That is cool.

• 1:07:36Speaker 03

  That's fucking dope.

• 1:07:38Connor Wood?

Yeah, and to have a mantle? That's awesome.

• 1:07:40Speaker 03

  Who can afford that?

• 1:07:41Connor Wood?

There's, like, different things that people say where it's like, we're not gonna see eye to eye, like, in-unit laundry, to me, for a long time, was like, if you have that, like, I just really, like, can't even have a conversation with you.

• 1:07:52Speaker 03

  Maybe.

• 1:07:52Connor Wood?

Appears. Because when you have in-unit laundry, washer dryer, it's like, your life genuinely is different than people that have to, like,

• 1:08:00Speaker 03

  Yeah, it is.

• 1:08:01Connor Wood?

go out to do their laundry.

• 1:08:03Speaker 03

Yeah. I, my hot take, though, one of my many hot takes, I actually don't mind doing laundry at the laundromat, cuz I was playing extreme sports on the TV. You go in, it's like, it's like leveling experience, like, we're just showing up. You always see, like, the hottest girl you've ever seen in your entire life doing laundry, and you're like, amazing.

• 1:08:20Connor Wood?

I would love to hang out at the laundromat, but I don't wanna do, I can't do, I,

• 1:08:24Speaker 03

  You're busy.

• 1:08:25Connor Wood?

Think, just thinking about going and batting that into the day is just, it's overwhelming.

• 1:08:29Speaker 03

I always like it as like an after-work activity, like, mine's really close to my place, so I'll go over, do the laundry, go get a bite to eat, sometimes go get a beer.

• 1:08:37Connor Wood?

Do you leave while your laundry's in the thing?

• 1:08:39Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:08:40Connor Wood?

  Do people not steal?

• 1:08:41Speaker 03

No, what are they gonna steal?

• 1:08:43Connor Wood?

  Your laundry?

• 1:08:44Speaker 03

Oh, they want my socks and underwear.

• 1:08:46Connor Wood?

  If it's nice.

• 1:08:47Speaker 03

  It gets the job done.

• 1:08:49Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 1:08:49Speaker 03

I always time it, though, so I get back, and it's like, it's finishing up.

• 1:08:53Connor Wood?

  Okay.

• 1:08:54Speaker 03

And then you read your book, watch some extreme sports, and then you just start striking up a conversation, start talking to some people, you know? And it's like, that was actually kinda nice.

• 1:09:03Connor Wood?

  That does sound nice.

• 1:09:04Speaker 03

It's like a third space. Everyone's like, we don't have any third spaces anymore. It's like, go to the laundromat.

• 1:09:09Connor Wood?

  Maybe I will.

• 1:09:09Speaker 03

  You should.

• 1:09:10Connor Wood?

  I'm going home.

  Home.

• 1:09:13Speaker 03

  Thank you for having me.

• 1:09:22Connor Wood?

And we'll do it again when Brooke's back.

• 1:09:24Speaker 03

And I will say, I am a framer, and I'm quite a good framer.

• 1:09:27Connor Wood?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:28Speaker 03

But I'm a lot of other things. And I will use this opportunity to say if anyone out there in the podcasting ether is interested in one of the many projects I'm involved with, whether that be writing, advertising, creative writing, music, please, please, please, get in touch.

• 1:09:45Connor Wood?

Yeah. And do you want to plug your band, too? We'll get

• 1:09:48Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 1:09:48Connor Wood?

A couple more monthly followers or listeners.

• 1:09:50Speaker 03

Yeah, I'll plug the Down and Outz, I'll plug Same Vain, Mono Block, Flycatcher, The Madelins. These are all my friends' bands.

• 1:10:00Speaker 03

• 1:10:07Speaker 03

People are gonna be mad at me if I don't include their band. There's definitely one more. Morning Silk. My good friend Frank's just released this project. It's really good.

• 1:10:14Connor Wood?

  Shout out Frank.

• 1:10:15Speaker 03

Whenever fall comes back around, it always feels like a fresh start. This year, I've been layering in some styles from the new Lululemon fall drop because the weather is shifting and I find I have to be ready for the entire day and not just one part of it. Lululemon's fall line has some really versatile transitional pieces, so I can just wake up, throw on a matching set, add a jacket or a fleece, and head out, knowing that I'll feel comfortable enough to go wherever the day takes me. Check out the new fall arrivals in store and online now at lululemon.com.
