• 1:24Keke Palmer?

  Bob!

• 1:24Speaker 01

  Hi!

• 1:25Keke Palmer?

  Hey, boo!

• 1:26Speaker 01

  You have a middle name?

• 1:27Keke Palmer?

Yes, my middle... My first name is Lauren. My middle name is Kiana.

• 1:30Speaker 01

Oh, so keys for the middle name?

• 1:32Keke Palmer?

Yeah, it's kind of like, my sister wanted my name to be Kiki, but my parents thought, "That's too much. That's not a real name." So they named me Lauren Kiana. Cut to. Isn't that crazy? They were trying to make me ready for assimilation.

• 1:42Speaker 01

You sounded very like, "Oh, dear Lord, and Kiana Palman of the Palma Estate. Oh, dear. Of course, the Palman's are known for the..."

• 1:49Keke Palmer?

  We need the estate.

• 1:50Speaker 01

  "Prestigious." Where you from?

• 1:52Keke Palmer?

I'm from the Midwest. I'm from Chicago. South suburbs.

• 1:55Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 1:55Keke Palmer?

Where you from? You from the South?

• 1:56Speaker 01

  I'm from Atlanta.

• 1:57Keke Palmer?

  Oh, period.

• 1:58Speaker 01

  Do I sound southern?

• 1:59Keke Palmer?

Mm, it's a slight thing, but it's not giving. I don't really find Atlanta like that.

• 2:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, no, it wouldn't.

• 2:04Keke Palmer?

  It don't go that far.

• 2:05Speaker 01

No, my brother sound like that.

• 2:06Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 2:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:07Keke Palmer?

  Where'd you go to school?

• 2:08Speaker 01

Clayton County. I went to Marrow High School in Clayton County.

• 2:11Keke Palmer?

  Very.

• 2:11Speaker 01

A lot of Clayton County people. Uh, Waka Waka Flame.

• 2:14Keke Palmer?

  Yes. I mean, Atlanta's...

• 2:15Speaker 01

  Bubba Sparks.

• 2:16Keke Palmer?

Very popular for putting the culture on at any given moment in time. In any field.

• 2:19Speaker 01

Clayton County. People do not give Clayton County the credit she deserves.

• 2:21Keke Palmer?

Isn't that where Lotto's from, too?

• 2:24Speaker 01

Lotto, yeah. People said to me, "You go to school at Lotto." I said, "Lotto is 22 years old."

• 2:30Speaker 01

I assure you, we didn't go to school at the same time.

• 2:31Keke Palmer?

I'm howling. Well, last time I seen you, and the first time we met was on the legendary show, legendary, that's no longer, which is, what the hell?

• 2:41Speaker 01

And they got it, they yanked it off the air. You couldn't even go find it. You gotta pirate it.

• 2:45Keke Palmer?

  That's cool.

• 2:46Speaker 01

And not that you should pirate it, but if you do, you go to the website, call, no, I'm kidding.

• 2:51Keke Palmer?

Yeah, I had fun on that show.

• 2:53Speaker 01

It was very, very fun. And you know, now Law Roach over at Drag Race.

• 2:56Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, I live for Law. We just had him on the show not too long ago.

• 2:59Speaker 01

  You did Drag Race, yeah?

• 2:59Keke Palmer?

Respect to the law, um, yes.

• 3:01Speaker 01

Gang gang, which episode did you do, you remember?

• 3:04Keke Palmer?

The episode that I did, I mean, how could I really remember?

• 3:07Speaker 01

She don't even remember you queens. You know, you're not even memorable.

• 3:11Keke Palmer?

Oh, you know, you so damn wrong. You so wrong. This was right after the baby, so I was like. You know, after you have a baby, you be like.

• 3:19Speaker 01

  You had the snapback.

• 3:20Keke Palmer?

  Okay, honey.

• 3:21Speaker 01

  You go to work.

• 3:22Keke Palmer?

That breastfeeding would really suck you dry.

• 3:24Speaker 01

I drank some breast milk yesterday.

• 3:26Keke Palmer?

  What did you think?

• 3:27Speaker 01

  It's sweet.

• 3:28Keke Palmer?

  It's very sweet.

• 3:29Speaker 01

  It tastes like cereal milk.

• 3:30Keke Palmer?

If they would let us sell our breast milk, you know how rich women would be.

• 3:33Speaker 01

You can sell it. You know, bodybuilders would drink breast milk.

• 3:36Keke Palmer?

But they do it like under the table. If we could have a corporate breast milk town.

• 3:39Speaker 01

I would drink it from the tap.

• 3:40Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 3:42Speaker 01

Bring them, bring one of them titties over here. Let me have a, I want it straight from the source.

• 3:46Keke Palmer?

I want a bite right here.

• 3:47Speaker 01

Yeah, my friend Amber, she, uh, was breastfeeding because she's overproduces.

• 3:51Keke Palmer?

Oh, wow, what a lucky young lady.

• 3:53Speaker 01

She has to donate, she has like so, she has, every two hours, she attaches the, the gadgets to the titties. And then all the friends were around, and then I was like, what does it taste like? And she poured me a.

• 4:03Keke Palmer?

And I poured you a glass.

• 4:04Speaker 01

She poured me a glass, and I drank it, it was warm, it was, it was fresh. And it just tastes kind of like creamer, or, um, or, uh, yeah, it's, it's, it's not, it really don't taste as nasty, I don't think it do.

• 4:15Keke Palmer?

No, it definitely doesn't taste nasty at all. I mean, I've tasted my own breast milk, and it, it's very sweet, it is. It changes over the course of how your baby gets older though. Like, it'll get thicker, or it'll get, you know, based off of your baby's needs.

• 4:26Speaker 01

And it's also, it's not weird, because like, it's weirder that we drink cow's milk than it is that we drink breast milk from a human being.

• 4:31Keke Palmer?

That's why I said they let us, if they let us sell it, we'd be rich.

• 4:34Speaker 01

Is it like calm, does it change with what you eat and stuff?

• 4:37Keke Palmer?

Um, well, yeah, I felt like when I had dairy, my son has a dairy allergy, I also.

• 4:41Speaker 01

I didn't realize, I just jumped in with a calm question, that's crazy. You know, calm changes based on like how you, if you're eating and, and what you're eating.

• 4:47Keke Palmer?

Uh, yeah, I mean, I think it's the same.

• 4:49Speaker 01

  So you know.

• 4:50Keke Palmer?

Boom, gotcha. So you know, boom, gotcha. I mean, one can only assume. One can only. But yeah, no, it definitely changes with your diet. Whenever I had dairy, my son even reacted. Like, I could see like little, them little baby pimples popping up and stuff like that. So you do, and you have to eat a lot.

• 5:11Speaker 01

  How old is your son?

• 5:12Keke Palmer?

  Two now, child.

• 5:14Speaker 01

  Wow, that's amazing. Congratulations.

• 5:15Keke Palmer?

Thank you so much. You want kids?

• 5:17Speaker 01

I do want kids. And that changed for me like a couple of years ago. Like, I didn't want kids, and then now I do. I just really want a kid, low key.

• 5:23Keke Palmer?

  What sign are you?

• 5:24Speaker 01

  I'm a Cancer on society. No, I'm a Cancer. I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a Jew and Cancer.

• 5:31Keke Palmer?

You get me lying. Where's your rising?

• 5:33Speaker 01

I don't know. I don't know my big three, but...

• 5:35Keke Palmer?

Why would you sit up here and do me like that? I just knew you knew.

• 5:38Speaker 01

Whatever makes you confrontational and, uh, not open to criticism.

• 5:43Keke Palmer?

I'm hollering. But wait a minute, speaking of the kids, you, you speak about you're in a polyamorous relationship, or you prefer poly... I don't know if you're single now. Are you single?

• 5:50Speaker 01

No, I'm not single. I have two partners, yeah.

• 5:51Keke Palmer?

Period. So how does that work if you guys talk about two?

• 5:54Speaker 01

  You know who you are.

• 5:55Keke Palmer?

  Shout out to his baby.

• 5:56Speaker 01

And it's just two of you, I swear. And if anyone else claiming, they lying. They lying.

• 6:02Keke Palmer?

Okay, wait, so tell me how this works with... So in a polyamorous relationship, what is cheating defined by, actually? I mean, what would be defined for anybody else?

• 6:10Speaker 01

Yeah, I think, um, in any relationship, cheating is defined by, by the...

• 6:14Keke Palmer?

  Parameters y'all have set.

• 6:15Speaker 01

Yeah, the parameters you set for each other. So if you're in an open relationship, not a poly, but if you're in an open relationship, then some people are like, well, just tell me, simply, I just want to know when, or somebody like, I don't want to know anything.

• 6:24Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 6:24Speaker 01

Some people are like, if you use protection, if you have them in the house, if you break the parameters and the guidelines you set for yourself, then I would consider that cheating.

• 6:33Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 6:34Speaker 01

  And, uh...

• 6:35Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 6:35Speaker 01

So my, one of my partners has a partner, my other partner doesn't have a partner. I live with one of my partners. I don't, well, I'm gonna be, me and the other one, we're gonna move together pretty soon, but...

• 6:42Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 6:43Speaker 01

As of right now. Maybe by the time I'm watching this, we, me and my other partner live together.

• 6:46Keke Palmer?

And so when did you know that polyamory was more of a fit for you? Like, had you been in a bunch of monogamous relationships that didn't work? Or like, how did it find you?

• 6:54Speaker 01

Well, I don't know. What's a bunch of relationships? I've only been, I've had five, I've had five partners my whole life. And my first partner is still my partner.

• 7:02Keke Palmer?

  Really?

• 7:03Speaker 01

Yeah, so the other ones were all been like kinda coming and going, but Jacob, me and Jacob been together for like eight years now.

• 7:08Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, and Jacob, have you changed and evolved as a person and decided to try different things? Jacob was evolving with you.

• 7:16Speaker 01

  Yeah, and-

• 7:17Keke Palmer?

  That's beautiful.

• 7:18Speaker 01

But we, we started off open, so that wasn't really a part of like our-

• 7:21Keke Palmer?

  A common-

• 7:21Speaker 01

  We were never like monogamous.

• 7:23Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 7:23Speaker 01

Are you monogamous? That's not my business.

• 7:25Keke Palmer?

No, you can ask me. So the reason why I'm asked while I'm interested in this because there was a statement that you had said, I don't know who you were talking to, that led into you wanting to be in polyamorous relationships where you were just kinda like, I don't believe one person could be everything to me.

• 7:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:38Keke Palmer?

And I feel that that's actually how, whether you're polyamorous or whether you're monogamous, that's how you should be thinking.

• 7:43Speaker 01

  I agree.

• 7:44Keke Palmer?

Because how the hell can one person be everything to you? That's why we have friends, families, mentors, therapists.

• 7:51Speaker 01

Willi Goldberg wrote a book called If He Says He Completes You Run.

• 7:54Keke Palmer?

  You know what I mean?

• 7:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:55Keke Palmer?

And so I think I'm, uh, not what, the way I think about relationships, I don't know how normal or non-normal it is.

• 8:01Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 8:01Keke Palmer?

But I feel like I don't expect you to do everything for me. I don't expect for you to fulfill all my needs. I expect you to fulfill what I'm asking for you to and what you're capable of as a partner. And what that then leads to, we can continue to add on or take away. We don't have to live together. We could. We could also have separate rooms. You know, like, I feel like I'm very, um, non-traditional, but I've never tried a polyamorous relationship.

• 8:23Speaker 01

Or even open? I feel like, I feel like black cis women are not, are not allowed to be open in-

• 8:28Keke Palmer?

You know they would judge us.

• 8:30Speaker 01

So, uh, Monique is famously open.

• 8:32Keke Palmer?

Oh yes, I remember Monique would talk about that and they would literally try to get on her and she was like, I love y'all for real.

• 8:37Speaker 01

Yeah, Monique is famously open and everyone's like being like, it's because your man, you can't say, and I'm like, that's not even what, or, or I think that, I might be making this up, but I feel like at some point Lizzo and Cee-Lo, that she was open with her current partner. I might have made that up, but I feel like I heard it somewhere.

• 8:49Keke Palmer?

I remember Monique talked about it and then she was, and then she's, and I don't wanna get her wrong, so if I'm wrong, guys, if we're not getting you right-

• 8:55Speaker 01

  Monique, comment below.

• 8:56Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, comment below.

• 8:57Speaker 01

  Monique, I know you're watching.

• 8:58Keke Palmer?

She was like, she was, and then her husband, her now husband daddy, was like, I'm cool with it until-

• 9:03Speaker 01

I love that she called him daddy. That's so [BLEEP]. That's so [BLEEP]. And he's a manager. She'd be like, well daddy said this contract is wrong. Ooh, that's so fierce.

• 9:12Keke Palmer?

  You have me falling over.

• 9:13Speaker 01

Daddy said no, and daddy's in the corner like.

• 9:15Keke Palmer?

Could you do, do you think you could be on that type of tip? Because when I, I agree with you of, that it does feel [BLEEP]. But am I gonna be looking to him and saying daddy? I don't know.

• 9:24Speaker 01

I had a, like a daddy relationship. I was a daddy in a relationship. So I've had a relationship where I was called daddy, and I like it. I, I, I feel like if anyone, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone who wants to be submissive. I think there's this big conversation now about how people aren't allowed to be submissive. Specifically, it's really a conversation for women. They don't, they don't give men, they don't give men this. If they want to be submissive, someone might call you a little [BLEEP]. Something for a submissive woman. But if a gay guy's submissive to another man, everyone's like, yeah, girl, let's be submissive. But, uh, Sabrina Carpenter had one little picture of her hair getting pulled, and now, uh, we gotta, we gotta unburn our bras.

• 9:55Keke Palmer?

  Oh my goodness.

• 9:55Speaker 01

Because Sabrina Carpenter got her hair pulled in one video. Let, in one picture, let this woman get her, if she went, what's wrong with having your, if Sabrina Carpenter wants to get her hair pulled?

• 10:03Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 10:04Speaker 01

There's a famous interview of Madonna being interviewed with this guy, and, and he's going on about how she's, she's actually degrading herself because she, she's chained to this table.

• 10:11Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 10:11Speaker 01

And she had this powerful speech. She's like, I chained myself to the table. It is me chaining myself to the table. It's not about someone doing it to me. And also, if someone wants to do it to me, like, it's my business.

• 10:19Keke Palmer?

But also, there's something to it when you are in your front-facing, like, persona in the world. Like, even think about somebody like Madonna, where you're very fierce. I do understand the behind the closed doors in the bedroom, take me. You know, the submissive factor is a release. And I, and I do think we don't talk enough about, I think guys think about it, sex in this way, but I don't know that women always think about sex as this way to express, or to let loose, or to let out. It's sometimes, I don't know really what it becomes.

• 10:46Speaker 01

Well, some women do, but they're not, but they're not taken seriously. Like, when, when women are as sexually liberated as men are, they're, they're kind of dismissed as not a serious person. Which is why I really, I really love that when Madonna took the, because I don't, I, I might be getting this wrong, but.

• 11:00Keke Palmer?

I love bringing up Madonna with this.

• 11:02Speaker 01

Madonna famously released a sex book. A book, it's called The Sex Book and it's her nudes. And I believe what happened was there's a video of this guy seeing her in a store and he's like, "I have nude photos of you from when you were a teenager. Do you wanna buy them from me?" And she's like, "No." And he's like, "Well, otherwise I might release them." And she's like, and then like within a few months, she just had shot, she was like, "I'll release my own nudes. Like, you won't get the drop on me." So she monetized it, she released her own nudes, and she still was taken seriously as an artist.

• 11:32Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 11:33Speaker 01

Like, it was like, and that would, at that time, that would have ended careers.

• 11:37Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 11:37Speaker 01

But it made her a career.

• 11:38Keke Palmer?

I mean, they tried to end our girl Vanessa Williams' career.

• 11:41Speaker 01

  Vanessa Williams.

• 11:41Keke Palmer?

Over that same kind of thing.

• 11:43Speaker 01

  Frenchie Davis?

• 11:44Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 11:44Speaker 01

Did the same thing to her.

• 11:45Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, Frenchie mother freaking Davis.

• 11:47Speaker 01

  I'm like, I, I, I.

• 11:48Keke Palmer?

  American Idol.

• 11:49Speaker 01

I wanna say she should've won, but I can't remember who won that season. But she was, she should've been on the top.

• 11:53Keke Palmer?

  You better bring up Frenchie.

• 11:54Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 11:55Keke Palmer?

  Gorgeous girl.

• 11:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:57Keke Palmer?

Very much giving you batty boo. I love that you bring that up and I love that you bring up Madonna because you actually toured with her.

• 12:02Speaker 01

  I did tour with her.

• 12:02Keke Palmer?

What was it like? Did you, were you like, "Let's go back into this time and these moments where you did all these culturally iconic things?" Or were you kinda just like, "Hey, girl, bye, girl, I'm checking in, checking out?"

• 12:11Speaker 01

Well, there were some moments where we had to go back because I helped her create the show and, um,

• 12:14Keke Palmer?

  Get rid.

• 12:15Speaker 01

There were a lot of us. It was not just me and Madonna sitting in a room over a fireside chat. There was a lot of folks that helped her create that show. But I helped.

• 12:22Keke Palmer?

  I love the honesty.

• 12:22Speaker 01

But I helped create segments of the show and one part I had to create was this like, retrospective of her career from like literally the beginning to right now. And I, I went through all of the like, I mean, every movie clip, every interview, everything, every music video, all the stuff she had done to create this like packaged performance piece that I did in the show. So, yeah, there are a lot of moments where I had to like go over her career and go over stuff. But she, she doesn't really like to revel in, um, things she does. She's not really too into people being like, "Oh, my God, you're so great." She's like, "We gotta move on." I think.

• 12:55Keke Palmer?

  I love it.

• 12:56Speaker 01

I think at 65, and you've been famous since 20 whatever.

• 13:00Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 13:00Speaker 01

She, 40 years she's been doing this.

• 13:02Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 13:02Speaker 01

So she's probably sick of, like, she, she knows, she knows she's an icon. We can move on to the next thing.

• 13:08Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 13:08Speaker 01

  To the next iconic moment.

• 13:09Keke Palmer?

And I think she's mostly loved for being somebody that's, I mean, you could correct me if I'm wrong, mostly loved for being somebody that's championing queer culture. But also sometimes people are critical of, and I'm curious what you think, especially now, that has become so mainstream, uh, you know, queer culture, uh, drag queens.

• 13:25Speaker 01

Do you know the, the tea between Michelle Visage and Madonna?

• 13:29Keke Palmer?

  Tell me the tea.

• 13:30Speaker 01

  According to Michelle.

• 13:32Keke Palmer?

  Get into that.

• 13:33Speaker 01

According to Michelle Visage, this is in her book, I didn't say this. Michelle Visage was performing a latex ball. The latex ball is this big, uh, party in, uh, New York City. It's a ball and it is a charity event. It's the biggest ball in the world, I think.

• 13:46Keke Palmer?

  Period.

• 13:46Speaker 01

Um, and Michelle Visage was at the latex ball performing, wearing a black suit, a white shirt, a tie, a blonde ponytail and a bra over it. According to Michelle. Next thing we know, Madonna's wearing a black... According to Michelle. I wasn't alive, I wasn't there. I might have been alive, but I wasn't there. I was in Georgia, Googling and Gagaing.

• 14:15Keke Palmer?

So, this is exactly where I was gonna be leading to. What is the line when it comes to appreciating, acknowledging, and appropriating, especially if you fit, if you're somebody that is championing a culture, that you are more, uh, you know, uh, mainstream, accepted by, to do. What is the, how do you, what's the line then?

• 14:37Speaker 01

Well, as someone who's been a part of counterculture, you know, I was working in New York City nightlife for a really long time. And there have been times where I have seen things I've done, things my friends have done, outfits we've made, performances that we've done, and then next you know there's a mega pop star doing it.

• 14:52Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 14:53Speaker 01

We can't claim the, the, we can't claim this dance style. We can't claim this outfit. We can't claim this. We can show pictures. A lot of times, we're just on their mood boards. I've seen major pop stars doing things I've done.

• 15:06Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 15:07Speaker 01

And I, I'm like, for a fact. And then when I mention...

• 15:09Keke Palmer?

  Name them real quick.

• 15:10Speaker 01

Well, I'll, honestly, I will name them. Well, here's the thing, well, I'll, I'll, should I name them?

• 15:15Keke Palmer?

  Name them.

• 15:15Speaker 01

Okay, here's the thing. Everyone thinks, everyone thinks I'm, everyone thinks I'm crazy for this, but I'm not crazy.

• 15:21Keke Palmer?

  No.

Like, I'm not crazy and I'm also not mad. I'm just saying, it is a thing that had happened. They about to light me up. I don't even wanna say this.

• 15:31Speaker 01

I don't even wanna say this.

• 18:35Keke Palmer?

  Same time next week.

• 18:40Speaker 01

So I did this Hounds Tooth collection.

• 18:42Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 18:42Speaker 01

When I was hosting the show called The Pit Stop, it's their official review show for Pulp, right? I did this Hounds Tooth collection. And then...

• 18:48Keke Palmer?

I love listening to you talk.

• 18:49Speaker 01

And then, one of my favorite pop stars of all time. Beyonce, Gisele Noz Carter.

• 18:55Keke Palmer?

I knew you was gonna say me!

• 18:57Speaker 01

And I was like, I did a house... And then everyone's like, there's no way you inspired Beyonce. I was like, why? Why couldn't I inspire Beyonce? And then...

• 19:04Keke Palmer?

  Listen, there's no way!

• 19:06Speaker 01

And then on my podcast, I was like, well... Her creator-director does follow me on Instagram. When I said that, he immediately unfollowed me. And I was like, well, you were following me at one point in time.

• 19:19Speaker 01

You were. And by the way, I don't care. Like, I'm not trying to be in the design world. I have...

• 19:25Keke Palmer?

You say I'm not trying to be in the design world.

• 19:27Speaker 01

I did this photo, and I think, in my opinion, it is, uh...

• 19:32Keke Palmer?

I cannot wait to see this.

• 19:34Speaker 01

You're not gonna tell me I'm crazy.

• 19:34Keke Palmer?

By the way, Hive, I don't agree with this man.

• 19:37Speaker 01

You're not gonna tell me I'm crazy. You're not about to look me in my eye and tell me I'm crazy. Look me in my eye and tell me I'm crazy.

• 19:46Keke Palmer?

I mean, the vibe is some...

• 19:51Speaker 01

  I'm not crazy.

• 19:52Keke Palmer?

But this is the thing with life.

• 19:54Speaker 01

  Do you think I'm crazy?

• 19:57Speaker 01

But do you think I'm crazy?

• 19:59Keke Palmer?

Because what can we do? It's a stalemate.

• 20:00Speaker 01

But do you think I'm crazy?

• 20:03Keke Palmer?

I think you have your brain.

• 20:05Speaker 01

The silhouette, the pose, the hat.

• 20:10Speaker 01

  And the thing is-

• 20:11Keke Palmer?

You're getting on my damn nerves.

• 20:11Speaker 01

Tell me the truth, Kiki. Be honest with me.

• 20:13Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 20:14Speaker 01

  You seen a mood board?

• 20:15Keke Palmer?

  Yes, of course.

• 20:17Speaker 01

  You-

• 20:17Keke Palmer?

  They have references.

• 20:18Speaker 01

Have you, have you ever been like, we gotta get a look? You, you, have you ever seen one of the queens on the mood board?

• 20:23Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my gosh, yes.

• 20:24Speaker 01

Y'all, we're on the mood board.

• 20:26Keke Palmer?

  Of course.

• 20:27Speaker 01

There's nothing wrong with pulling references from pop culture or from subculture or from counterculture.

• 20:32Keke Palmer?

  That's right.

• 20:33Speaker 01

  And there's no way-

• 20:34Keke Palmer?

But I do think, and, and this is why I'm asking, is what is the proper way to make sure that you're, that you're not a, a part of Erasure?

• 20:43Speaker 01

When it comes to this, it doesn't matter. It's literally a pose in a picture. I don't own that pose. Someone did the pose for me.

• 20:48Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 20:48Speaker 01

When I did it, it was Lee Bowery inspired. I was pulling from Lee Bowery. So I didn't create that-

• 20:54Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 20:54Speaker 01

That, that image. I mean, I mean, the image, yes, but I didn't create that.

• 20:57Keke Palmer?

I know exactly what you mean. We're, we're all inspired and taking and making all of it.

• 21:01Speaker 01

It's all pulled from another thing, from another thing, from another thing, from another thing. So for that, I would say that it doesn't matter. But then like one time, I'm, I'm really saying names. One time, uh-

• 21:08Keke Palmer?

  I live for everything.

• 21:10Speaker 01

One time, Sia did this performance that was very inspired by a Nina West performance. So Nina West is a drag queen on RuPaul's Drag Race, and she is really, really big in Ohio. That sounds like a re-

• 21:23Keke Palmer?

  That's it, Ohio.

• 21:24Speaker 01

Big in Ohio, no. She's big all over. She's big in all over, but she's massive in Ohio. And she did this number where her dress comes to life. She's wearing this massive gown and the dress just comes to life. Sia does it at Coachella. And everyone's like, I have seen, I have seen this song before. Now, in that point, Sia was like, I did pull a reference from Nina West. And then, I don't know what, I don't know what they worked out. I'm not in their DMs, I'm not, I don't know what's going on.

• 21:48Keke Palmer?

But she, but she said that, you know, I was inspired.

• 21:51Speaker 01

  But that was so specific.

• 21:52Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 21:53Speaker 01

That's like, so like, girl, that is like, that's the thing that Nina West did.

• 21:58Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 21:58Speaker 01

And then there was a thing with like, uh- Ariana Grande and Pharamon.

• 22:05Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 22:05Speaker 01

But they had the same designer.

• 22:08Keke Palmer?

Cause then there's also that too, but I think it's important when we are talking about, like you said, counterculture or culture.

• 22:13Speaker 01

By the way, they're lighting me up in the comments. They think, they think for some reason, they think there is no way I could possibly inspire someone as great as Beyonce, which I don't know why that's so crazy. In my opinion.

• 22:24Keke Palmer?

  Obviously.

• 22:25Speaker 01

We gotta be hype here. Chime it.

• 22:28Keke Palmer?

Obviously Beyonce is inspired by queer culture in general with Renaissance. I mean, that was the whole homage to that culture, to obviously her uncle as well, but to the culture that inspired her to be the diva that we know her to be.

• 22:39Speaker 01

And I, and I, I love that image. I, I went to Renaissance.

• 22:43Keke Palmer?

  Period.

• 22:43Speaker 01

I was there in a silver suit, wearing, wearing heels, standing for hours.

• 22:47Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 22:48Speaker 01

  She floated over me.

• 22:51Keke Palmer?

I need her to float over me in this little horse now that she got.

• 22:53Speaker 01

I weighed when she floated over. I ain't gonna stand on that Cadillac.

• 22:57Keke Palmer?

You know they pissed her off and she cussed everybody out after that.

• 23:00Speaker 01

I ain't gonna stand on that Cadillac. I know she was mad.

• 23:02Keke Palmer?

Cause she's a Virgo and Beyonce don't play. But yeah, I mean, that's why I always ask because obviously as well with me, whether it's watching Paris is burning and the gag is, and it's table, you know, there is, I think there's always a conversation where you wanna make sure that if you are appreciating or even if just being a part of the culture, always maintaining, pushing for the right education, the right appreciation and the value because, you know, there's, we're still fighting against so much stuff.

• 23:28Speaker 01

Well, no counterculture is monolithic, right? So you're gonna have people in the ballroom or in nightlife or in whatever, who are gonna be like, I say, go for it. It helps me get more gigs, more people know about the thing that I love. I've been trying to tell people about this forever and now people like it. And you have some folks who are like, keep it underground, don't tell nobody, that would have been a secret. So some folks are gonna love it, some folks are gonna hate it. You, you can't, you know what I mean? Like someone might be like, I don't like when you, you know, talk black and white spaces. I don't want them knowing our, knowing our slang.

• 23:56Keke Palmer?

I'm gonna say, I know in that regard too, it's always like, we're like trying to figure out like, what, what, what am I to do then? Just not be?

• 24:02Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, like, are we, so are we cold? Which is never a go. Some folks are gonna be like, it should be, it should be counterculture. Some folks are like, it is what it is. Like, we deserve to be part of the mainstream. So someone's gonna love it, someone's gonna hate it.

• 24:12Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 24:13Speaker 01

I love Beyonce. They're still lighting me up. They're lighting me up.

• 24:16Keke Palmer?

I love the lighting up in the comments.

• 24:17Speaker 01

Crazy. The comments, I can already see them. I'm not acting like I can actually see the comments.

• 24:22Keke Palmer?

  Because you can feel them.

• 24:23Speaker 01

  I can feel.

• 24:23Keke Palmer?

You feel that they've already arrived.

• 24:24Speaker 01

I hear the bzzzz. I'm dressed like a bubblebee. I'm in the hive. I'm not in the hive. I like Beyonce, I'm not in the hive. Are you in the hive?

• 24:34Keke Palmer?

I think I'm in the hive.

• 24:34Speaker 01

Are you, are you, are you, are you a...

• 24:36Keke Palmer?

Now, the reason why I said think is because what are we judging it off of? If you're asking me to reveal stats and all type of stuff, am I willing to fight?

• 24:44Speaker 01

Are you willing to be in the comment section going crazy?

• 24:46Keke Palmer?

  Well, no.

• 24:47Speaker 01

  You're not in the hive.

• 24:47Keke Palmer?

But you know, I'm not, because we don't have time for it.

• 24:50Speaker 01

Oh, I have time. I'll make time.

• 24:53Keke Palmer?

  What does the Navy do?

• 24:55Speaker 01

The Navy just smokes weed and chill. The Navy is, they don't have the energy.

• 24:58Keke Palmer?

When I tell you, when I see my girl sitting up there now with them kids, living her life, making that makeup, I'm so happy for her.

• 25:07Speaker 01

And now, the lambs will gaslight you.

• 25:09Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 25:10Speaker 01

The lambs will gaslight you down. They will act like things aren't true, but they are. They will, they will, they will fully gaslight you.

• 25:19Keke Palmer?

  Ooh.

• 25:19Speaker 01

  Uh, the Swifties will...

• 25:21Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, what will the Swifties?

• 25:22Speaker 01

Oh, they will annoy you so bad. So, with the Swi... This is, this, I have...

• 25:26Keke Palmer?

  I live for this.

• 25:27Speaker 01

I have a theory about Swifties in the hive.

• 25:28Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 25:29Speaker 01

I think, first of all, the only people who are actually against Beyonce or Taylor Swift are the Swifties in the hive. Only the Swifties are against Beyonce. Only the Beehive is against the Swifties. Everyone else is like, they are great artists. You cannot argue that Beyonce is inarguably one of the best performers alive and for the past hundred years.

• 25:50Keke Palmer?

  No, yeah.

• 25:51Speaker 01

You cannot argue that Taylor Swift is a phenomenal songwriter, even when she's not writing songs for herself.

• 25:56Keke Palmer?

  Storyteller.

• 25:57Speaker 01

She wrote Rihanna's third most popular song under a, under a pen name. She didn't even say it was her. It made it, and she didn't even say it was her. So, obviously, Taylor Swift can write a bop. You can't argue this. Obviously, Beyonce can perform down.

• 26:10Keke Palmer?

I love you knowing the education.

• 26:12Speaker 01

You cannot argue this, but now, the Beehive is trying to convince us that the Swi... that Taylor Swift is [BLEEP] because they want to lift up Beyonce. Just lift up Beyonce. You don't have to take a text at Taylor Swift.

• 26:22Keke Palmer?

  You need to nap to...

• 26:22Speaker 01

And the Swifties are not trying to knock down Beyonce because she don't sell the mini ticket to Taylor, but Taylor can't dance like Beyonce, but she can't sing like her, but she can't write like her. Just go to the girls' concerts and enjoy.

• 26:32Keke Palmer?

And what do we think, what are the monsters?

• 26:35Speaker 01

Oh, the monsters are gonna cry. They're very sensitive. They're gonna cry. Give us that shirt, "Don't bully me, I'll come."

• 26:43Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh.

• 26:44Speaker 01

  That's the monsters.

• 26:45Keke Palmer?

Oh my, it's so much going on.

• 26:47Speaker 01

Now, I'm an animal. You don't know who the animals are.

• 26:49Keke Palmer?

Tell me the animal child. Get me into it now. You better tell me now.

• 26:52Speaker 01

Can't even call an Uber, no.

• 26:53Keke Palmer?

  Get me together, Bob.

• 26:54Speaker 01

  Kesha.

• 26:56Keke Palmer?

  Oh, Kesha.

• 26:58Speaker 01

  When I tell you.

• 26:59Keke Palmer?

Coming down to New Wanting and in New York City. Don't stop thinking, I didn't know all the words.

• 27:05Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't think you knew any of them.

• 27:06Keke Palmer?

  You know that I didn't.

• 27:07Speaker 01

I don't think you knew any of them.

• 27:08Keke Palmer?

I knew the tonality. I knew the tonality of Miss Kesha.

• 27:12Speaker 01

  I'm a huge Kesha fan. I'm obsessed.

• 27:14Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh.

• 27:15Speaker 01

I have loved Kesha for so long.

• 27:17Keke Palmer?

She's had such an intense journey and it's so good to see her continuing to push through and keep telling her story and keep having fun with music.

• 27:23Speaker 01

You know, her album, "Period," is the first time that she's owned all of her own music. She owns everything. It's all her. She doesn't owe anyone anything.

• 27:29Keke Palmer?

  I'm so happy for her.

• 27:30Speaker 01

It's her first independent album. I would say probably my, the music that I like the... I'm an animal, but I just love Kesha's story and her music. I think that the music I probably connect to and like, listen to the most. Lately, I've been really in my Mariah Carey bag.

• 27:45Keke Palmer?

Oh, honey. Well, when you did the questionnaire, I didn't even get into it because we hopped right into an amazing convo. But you said you was listening to Mariah Carey over here. Now, the real question is, are we talking 90s, early 90s? Are we talking early 2000s? Are we talking current?

• 27:59Speaker 01

So, we were hopping around. It was late 90s, early 2000s when we were listening to "We Belong Together."

• 28:03Keke Palmer?

  Ah, yes.

• 28:04Speaker 01

Then we went back to "My All." I give my all.

• 28:09Keke Palmer?

  That was the early, early.

• 28:11Speaker 01

And then we went over to "Hero." And then a hero comes along. With the strength to carry on. And you cast your fears aside. And you know you can survive. She's so good. Mariah Carey, her pin.

• 28:32Speaker 01

We're not talking about this enough. Wake it up. Let's wake it up. Her pen is the nastiest one in the game.

• 28:36Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 28:36Speaker 01

No one writes, no one writes pop music, R&B, um, uptempo, uh, R&B like Mariah Carey. There's a reason why she has more, um, number one hits than any woman and most solo artists. Like, she's insane.

• 28:50Keke Palmer?

Yes, um, even though you were on Traitors and you didn't make it that far, you were like, oh, you were the most talked about, sweetie.

• 28:56Speaker 01

I was mentioned in every single episode of the show. I'm very competitive.

• 29:00Keke Palmer?

Okay, so tell me about that experience and what was the hardest part?

• 29:03Speaker 01

So, The Traitors was such a wild experience.

• 29:07Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 29:07Speaker 01

I was out of my mind because my mother passed away two weeks before The Traitors. Literally two weeks. My mom died on Sunday.

• 29:12Keke Palmer?

  So sorry.

• 29:13Speaker 01

We had her funeral the next Sunday and the following Sunday I was off in Scotland filming The Traitors. It was, I was having panic attacks. They had to call the ambulance for me. None of this made the air.

• 29:21Keke Palmer?

  I'm so sorry, honey.

• 29:22Speaker 01

It was, it was, it was really rough.

• 29:23Keke Palmer?

  It's horrible.

• 29:24Speaker 01

But I, I was still like, I'm in game mode. Like, honestly, I think that if I didn't have it, I would have been even more miserable because I, I had a break. Even though it was like, I was there for maybe like a week and a half.

• 29:33Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 29:33Speaker 01

Uh, I had a break from the, the sadness of having to, you know, memorialize my mother just like two weeks earlier or one week earlier. Literally one week earlier, I had, I did, I had her funeral. So, uh, it wa, it was nice for me and, uh, you know, I, I'm, I'm a loud mouth. I play hard and fast. I do not pull punches. I, I accuse, I stand up for myself, I advocate really hard. So, people are like, well, I can tell you're a traitor. I was like, baby, I would have been loud if I was a traitor, if I was a faithful, if I was working craft services, if I was the director, if I was the car driver, if I was driving the Land Rovers. I would have been loud no matter what.

• 30:07Keke Palmer?

Literally. People always think that they know, but whenever you're a loud person in the game, they always choose you and that gets on my nerves. Like, that's like me and my family. Anytime we play something, they're like, Kiki is, leave me alone and let me play, damn.

• 30:18Speaker 01

And also, all of you at home being like, if I were there, but you weren't.

• 30:24Speaker 01

You were at home, in your pajamas, and I was wearing a [BLEEP] custom suit. Um, but it, and also when you're there, it's harder. When you're at home watching, you have all the answers. You already know who's a traitor. You already know who's a faithful. You don't know any. Would you ever do the traitors?

• 30:38Keke Palmer?

I mean, I love games. So, yeah, I would.

• 30:40Speaker 01

  You'd go on the show?

• 30:41Keke Palmer?

I mean, I don't know if I'd go on the show, child, but I would do it at home.

• 30:45Speaker 01

  It's crazy, Kiki.

• 30:47Keke Palmer?

What is the secret to it? Because, I mean, it seems like it's a lot of-

• 30:49Speaker 01

Don't ask me! I got, I got, I was the first traitor found out.

• 30:53Keke Palmer?

It seemed like it's a lot of mental mi- like, my sister did one of these shows. She did Celebrity, uh, Claim to Fame.

• 30:58Speaker 01

  I heard about this show.

• 30:58Keke Palmer?

She won. My sister [BLEEP] won, and she was playing mind games.

• 31:01Speaker 01

  Y'all look alike?

• 31:02Keke Palmer?

  We do.

• 31:03Speaker 01

  And she still won?

• 31:04Keke Palmer?

  She won.

• 31:06Speaker 01

In the point of the game to find out who-

• 31:07Keke Palmer?

She made them think that her relative was Laurence Fishburne. And then she got them to, like, hold space for her until the end, because they had brought up Akilah Naby, and she was like, "Mm-hmm." And then by the end, when they said Laurence Fishburne, when they finally tried to get her out, it was like, "Mm, wrong." And it was like, "Damn, it wasn't Laurence Fishburne all this time?"

• 31:23Speaker 01

So, I was at a party one time, and I have a rule. One of my rules is, I never let people call me to them.

• 31:29Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, I hate that!

• 31:31Speaker 01

  I hate it.

• 31:31Keke Palmer?

  And why? I hate this.

• 31:34Speaker 01

I'm like, "You wanna talk to me?"

• 31:36Keke Palmer?

  I hate that.

• 31:37Speaker 01

I wanna talk to you, you come here. I broke my rule one time, because I was at, uh, a party, and I looked over, someone's going...

• 31:45Keke Palmer?

  Stop!

• 31:46Speaker 01

And I was like, "It's Megan Thee Stallion, I'm gonna walk over there."

• 31:48Keke Palmer?

  Oh, period.

• 31:49Speaker 01

So, I walked over to Megan, and, um, she was like, "I loved you on The Traitors, you were so fun, yada, yada, yada." And then I was like-

• 31:55Keke Palmer?

She watches TV. I've gotten into this, that she watches TV from different things. I'm here, like, she like, she's a TV girl.

• 32:00Speaker 01

  TV and anime.

• 32:01Keke Palmer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 32:01Speaker 01

Well, anime is TV. Anyway, um, TV and, and, and a thing on TV. Um, and then she, she was like, "I love, I love you on The Traitors," she was sitting there with Paris Hilton.

• 32:11Keke Palmer?

  Wow, what a duo.

• 32:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, I reckon they're buddies.

• 32:14Keke Palmer?

I reckon they're buddies. I live for reckon.

• 32:16Speaker 01

You see Paris on the Knicks ad with, uh, with, uh, not Lotto, what's her name? Uh, who, Tap Tap In, Big Face.

• 32:24Keke Palmer?

Oh, no, that's, oh, that's sweet.

• 32:25Speaker 01

Yeah, she got a, she got a, she got a ad with-

• 32:27Keke Palmer?

She has a new joint out right now that's been both of them.

• 32:29Speaker 01

That's a good song, I love that song.

• 32:30Keke Palmer?

  It's cute, both of them.

• 32:31Speaker 01

So, she was like, "I loved you on The Traitors, you were great," her and Paris Hilton were gagging back and forth. I was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

• 32:36Keke Palmer?

  Yes!

• 32:37Speaker 01

And I was like, "Well, we play the game from time to time," I say, "Oh, my God, you should come play with us." She goes, "I would love to," and I was like, and I was like, um, and I was- I always try, I said, oh, I said, let me, let me give you my number. She was like, anyway.

• 32:51Speaker 01

I was like, girl, you can let me give you my number. I didn't ask for yours. I tried to give you mine. You could have took my number, Megan.

• 32:59Keke Palmer?

She said, I liked you on the TV.

• 33:01Speaker 01

Yeah, I said, I said, let me give you my number. She was like, woo, it is warm. My goodness. Who is the arrow? Girl, we outside. Ain't no arrow.

• 33:12Speaker 01

  She gathered me.

• 33:12Keke Palmer?

  Floor. Very cute.

• 33:14Speaker 01

They always do it, everyone, I, I, listen, I'm bold. I would give my number out. I don't ask for the numbers.

• 33:19Keke Palmer?

  You can always not answer.

• 33:21Speaker 01

Asking for the number is too much. Get, offering your number, I think is valid, right? Every once in a while, I'll meet someone, family, someone, let me give you my number.

• 33:27Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 33:27Speaker 01

And for the, usually they'll, they'll take the number. Usually they'll take the number. Megan did not take the number.

• 33:32Keke Palmer?

Well, she's honest. She's an Aquarius. She said, look, baby. One time I gave somebody my mom's number because I was like, I, I used to go, and I still work on this to this day where I just don't want anything to be awkward. And so I try to just like get out of it and try to do all this, get silly. Anyway, this person asked you for my number and I was like, okay, and I gave them my mom's number, but, but, and I was like, um, you know, my phone is.

• 33:56Keke Palmer?

I was like, my phone is dead, but like, you know, just hit me, you know what I'm saying?

• 34:00Speaker 01

  I'm screaming.

• 34:02Keke Palmer?

When I tell you this motherf- aw. In front of me.

• 34:07Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 34:08Keke Palmer?

  He was like.

• 34:08Speaker 01

  My.

• 34:09Keke Palmer?

  He was like, someone answered.

• 34:13Keke Palmer?

And that's Sharon's ass. Hello? Hello?

• 34:17Speaker 01

See, this is, this is what you get for being dishonest. That's what you get for being dishonest.

• 34:21Keke Palmer?

  And I looked so stupid.

• 34:24Speaker 01

  Gathered.

• 34:24Keke Palmer?

I looked so stupid at this man, like, now the jig is up, so get the out.

• 34:29Speaker 01

I've never done that, but I want to take someone's number, because you know, they don't, they don't really look with their, they just, you, you know, they don't go back and look at the number. I was like, what would happen if you just, if I put 911 and just save my number?

• 34:41Keke Palmer?

That type of thing is so funny.

• 34:42Speaker 01

I've never done that. I've never done that.

• 34:44Keke Palmer?

It always gets so weird. But nowadays, what people have been doing is like, follow me. You know, they try to do the Instagram thing and make it even less invasive. But it's like, I don't know why we get all weird with the numbers and [BLEEP]. We could just block each other.

• 34:57Speaker 01

Well, that's the thing. I will just, I have no qualms hanging up on someone.

• 35:02Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 35:02Speaker 01

I answer every call, even if I don't know the number, I'll answer the phone. If I want to talk, I will just hang up. I'll hang up. And I, I'm a phone call over text person anyway. Let me tell you, nothing's more annoying than getting a [BLEEP]. Giving your number to a texter.

• 35:14Keke Palmer?

So wait a minute, are you a caller?

• 35:16Speaker 01

  I'm a caller, cold call.

• 35:17Keke Palmer?

No, babe. I'm scared of a call.

• 35:21Speaker 01

  Kiki, we didn't-

• 35:21Keke Palmer?

  Isn't that crazy?

• 35:22Speaker 01

Kiki, you're too old to be scared of calls. This is like 22, 23 year old behavior.

• 35:25Keke Palmer?

Like, it's like, I'll answer it, but like, if you're, like, so for instance, if it's the number that I don't know, I'm gonna answer it just to see what's going on. But if you're somebody that knows me-

• 35:33Speaker 01

  Hey, we the same age.

• 35:34Keke Palmer?

Why the hell you calling me? Yeah, 32?

• 35:36Speaker 01

We are not the same age.

• 35:37Keke Palmer?

  How old is you?

• 35:38Speaker 01

We are not the same age, not even close.

• 35:41Keke Palmer?

Not even close? That's dramatic. What, are you 35?

• 35:44Speaker 01

  No.

• 35:46Keke Palmer?

  36?

• 35:47Speaker 01

  No.

• 35:48Keke Palmer?

  40?

• 35:50Speaker 01

  No.

• 35:51Keke Palmer?

  What the [BLEEP]?

• 35:52Speaker 01

  I'm 39. 39, 39, 39.

• 35:54Keke Palmer?

But the way you had me going, child-

• 35:56Speaker 01

Well, I was trying to remember, because I, I felt like-

• 35:58Keke Palmer?

  I feel like I give 40, though.

• 36:00Speaker 01

I felt like I was a ki-, you do, low key.

• 36:01Keke Palmer?

  You know, it's very-

• 36:02Speaker 01

I felt like I was a kid when Akil and the Bee came out. I felt, in my head, I was like, I felt like I was a kid.

• 36:07Keke Palmer?

  You probably were.

• 36:08Speaker 01

  And I wasn't.

• 36:09Keke Palmer?

I mean, being, oh, I guess you weren't, yeah, damn.

• 36:12Speaker 01

What year did it come out?

• 36:13Keke Palmer?

Akil and the Bee came out in 2005, 6, 6, 2006?

• 36:17Speaker 01

No, I was a grown ass man paying bills, paying taxes, grown ass. But I guess, I don't think I-

• 36:21Keke Palmer?

Maybe it brought you back to feeling like a kid.

• 36:23Speaker 01

I don't think I clocked that Akil and the Bee was out when it was out. I think it had been out for a while, and then I saw it.

• 36:31Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 36:31Speaker 01

And then I was like, oh, and maybe it was out when I was a kid.

• 36:34Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 36:35Speaker 01

I also used to get it mixed up with Little Miss Sunshine for some reason.

• 36:37Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, Miss Mamas, Miss Abby won a damn Oscar.

• 36:40Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 36:41Keke Palmer?

Oh yeah, Little Miss Sunshine, Mm-hmm, Abby Yelwesling.

• 36:43Speaker 01

Have you been, have you been nominated yet?

• 36:45Keke Palmer?

  Never been nominated for Oscar.

• 36:46Speaker 01

  You deserve one.

• 36:47Keke Palmer?

  Thank you.

• 36:48Speaker 01

I, I saw, uh, the, the space movie.

• 36:51Keke Palmer?

  You're talking about, um, Nope.

• 36:53Speaker 01

  Nope, nope.

• 36:53Keke Palmer?

I live for Up. He took me to dance.

• 36:56Speaker 01

When you had the balloon? No, I saw Nope. It was so good.

• 36:59Keke Palmer?

  Oh, my gosh, thank you.

• 37:00Speaker 01

You were great in that movie.

• 37:01Keke Palmer?

Thank you. I really had a lot of fun shooting that movie. It was absolutely, like, life-changing.

• 37:05Speaker 01

And I watched your, uh, visual album randomly before, before this. I was like, oh, Kiki Momma just released a visual album. Let me check it out.

• 37:11Keke Palmer?

Thank you for checking it out. What'd you think?

• 37:13Speaker 01

It was great. It was amazing. I thought it was really, and you self-produced it, didn't you?

• 37:16Keke Palmer?

  Yes, I did.

• 37:17Speaker 01

  You better work.

• 37:17Keke Palmer?

Child, you know, we gotta invest in ourselves, because if we don't, then who will?

• 37:20Speaker 01

  You better work. That's amazing.

• 37:22Keke Palmer?

Thank you so much. I really appreciate you for checking it out. You know, you put stuff out, you do your thing in the world, and you kind of have to let it go. I'm sure you know.

• 37:28Speaker 01

  I know.

• 37:28Keke Palmer?

Okay? And you just hope, hey, I hope it hit you somewhere.

• 37:33Speaker 01

It was great. I feel like you are probably, let me think hard about this now. I feel like you might be the most famous multi-hyphenate. Like, actual multi-hyphenate.

• 37:41Keke Palmer?

  Jamie Foxx?

• 37:43Speaker 01

  No.

• 37:46Keke Palmer?

  You on Love, Ray?

• 37:47Speaker 01

Jamie Foxx is a, obviously an actor. Obviously, Jamie Foxx is an actor. No one's gonna argue that he's an actor.

• 37:54Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 37:55Speaker 01

When, when's the last time he did stand-up?

• 37:58Keke Palmer?

Well, after the one original day. Oh, he actually just did one, but the mo, he did one of the most iconic, it's when he got up there telling some.

• 38:07Speaker 01

No, okay, you're right. Jamie Foxx is a multi-hyphenate. You're right. You're right. I'm wrong. I'm wrong, and you're right. Jamie Foxx is a big multi-hyphenate.

• 38:12Keke Palmer?

But he's like, kind of, he's a not our generation. Maybe, is that what you mean? He's older. Jamie is literally 50 now.

• 38:20Speaker 01

  You couldn't say that.

• 38:21Keke Palmer?

Is that bad that he's older?

• 38:23Speaker 01

Oh, my God. Is this the roast of Jamie Foxx?

• 38:26Keke Palmer?

  No.

• 38:26Speaker 01

With your old ass. Dusty ass Jamie Foxx, old crusty dusty ass. No play.

• 38:33Keke Palmer?

Now, you see how he put all that on there?

• 38:36Keke Palmer?

  Jamie is literally.

• 38:37Speaker 01

  Damn!

• 38:38Keke Palmer?

Jamie is literally, he just got, like, an achievement, a lifetime achievement.

• 38:42Speaker 01

He's gotta be more than 50. Ain't no way Jamie Foxx.

• 38:43Keke Palmer?

You think he's older than 50?

• 38:43Speaker 01

Ain't no way Jamie Foxx is 50 years old. Ain't no way.

• 38:45Keke Palmer?

Well, let's find it out now. Google it up. Google's gonna give us the answers.

• 38:50Speaker 01

  Fifty-seven.

• 38:50Keke Palmer?

  He almost sixty.

• 38:52Speaker 01

  About to be.

• 38:53Keke Palmer?

Yeah, and that's why it's like, you probably thought of it like that because he's like, he's our, he's the one that showed us how to do it.

• 38:58Speaker 01

Yeah, no, you're right, you're right. He is definitely a very much so multi-phonetic.

• 39:02Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 39:02Speaker 01

But I feel like, wasn't there, was there, did I make this up? Or was that like a couple of years ago, maybe like eight years ago? Where there was like, Keke Palmer needs to do a version of The View.

• 39:12Keke Palmer?

Yeah, they would say that. I mean, I would, wait a minute, so I think if, let's stick it up right now.

• 41:49Speaker 01

  Obviously.

• 41:50Keke Palmer?

So who else is gonna be on there with us?

• 41:52Speaker 01

Well, the question is do you want...

• 41:52Keke Palmer?

And which one of us is Whoopi?

• 41:54Speaker 01

Well, I'm... Well, baby, one of us has to be Whoopi Goldberg.

• 41:58Keke Palmer?

One of us has to be Whoopi!

• 41:59Speaker 01

One of us has to be... I actually look, I actually look like Whoopi Goldberg.

• 42:01Keke Palmer?

So if you're Whoopi, then who am I?

• 42:03Speaker 01

  And I have the tattoo.

• 42:04Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, you love Whoopi too?

• 42:06Speaker 01

  Oh, I'm obsessed.

• 42:07Keke Palmer?

  Oh my gosh, Whoopi Goldberg!

• 42:09Speaker 01

  I'm obsessed with Whoopi Goldberg.

• 42:10Keke Palmer?

When she put that shirt on her head?

• 42:12Speaker 01

  Baby.

• 42:12Keke Palmer?

That was me as a little girl.

• 42:13Speaker 01

I watched, I was watching Sister Act last night, Sister Act 2.

• 42:16Keke Palmer?

Baby, Sister Act, Sister Act, literally Sister... You know, that's the only one where the second one was just as good, if not good as...

• 42:24Speaker 01

  It was better.

• 42:24Keke Palmer?

You get what I'm saying? That never happens.

• 42:26Speaker 01

  Yeah, Godfather 2.

• 42:28Keke Palmer?

Oh, people do say that. The Godfather I never got into.

• 42:31Speaker 01

Yeah, I just hear people saying it. I ain't never seen it.

• 42:33Keke Palmer?

You get what I'm saying? I'm glad we were honest now.

• 42:35Speaker 01

  People be saying it though.

• 42:36Keke Palmer?

Yeah, cuz it's one of the ones if you say you haven't, then you have to feel like two minutes, five minutes of you haven't seen it. It's like, I ain't seen it.

• 42:42Speaker 01

  Yeah, I ain't seen it.

• 42:43Keke Palmer?

  Like, get over it.

• 42:44Speaker 01

But, uh, I, I'm a Whoopi, I'm a Whoopi Goldberg stan for sure.

• 42:47Keke Palmer?

Baby, love Whoopi. Okay, so I'm Joy because Joy the only one that's been there for the...

• 42:50Speaker 01

I, I hate, I do this all the time and my friends are over it. Do you know how old Joy Behar is?

• 42:54Keke Palmer?

  How old?

• 42:55Speaker 01

How old do you think she is?

• 42:56Keke Palmer?

Well, now you scared me, so I'm thinking 80.

• 42:59Speaker 01

  Your friend's 84 years old.

• 43:03Speaker 01

I don't know who the doctor is. I don't know what the skin routine is.

• 43:09Keke Palmer?

Also, what was, what type of minerals? What type of maintenance in the mind? Because her mind is strong.

• 43:15Speaker 01

  Eighty-two, eighty-two.

• 43:16Keke Palmer?

  Eighty-two, her mind is strong.

• 43:17Speaker 01

The minerals, the, the, there's probably gotta been something. The hair, the everything, the mind.

• 43:22Keke Palmer?

  The mind is strong.

• 43:23Speaker 01

Joy Behar, she comes, I was, I was on The View. You probably done The View.

• 43:26Keke Palmer?

Yeah, I love, I love going on there.

• 43:28Speaker 01

Joy Behar's come up with jokes on the spot.

• 43:29Keke Palmer?

Yes. And she be looking at you like, are you ready?

• 43:32Speaker 01

  She's, she is a brilliant.

• 43:34Keke Palmer?

She's always in your eyes, like.

• 43:35Speaker 01

So obviously I think you're the joy.

• 43:37Keke Palmer?

I'm joy, I'm fine with that.

• 43:38Speaker 01

Do you want a conservative voice? It's gonna be annoying to have around.

• 43:41Keke Palmer?

What do that mean? You mean literally political or do we mean socially?

• 43:45Speaker 01

You know who it is. You know who it is. You know who I'm talking about. We're thinking of the same person.

• 43:51Keke Palmer?

  No.

• 43:52Speaker 01

Everyone's thinking of who I'm thinking of. We're gonna say it on three. One, two, three, Candace Owens.

• 44:03Keke Palmer?

But you know, she was, she would give it to us. She would be giving it to our asses and she would be giving us TV. And we'll be going back and forth.

• 44:11Speaker 01

Oh, it'll be Televisio. We will snatch the Emmy. Snatch.

• 44:16Keke Palmer?

Okay, wait, so it's me, it's you, it's Candace? Because we need the conservative voice.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:20Keke Palmer?

  And then?

• 44:21Speaker 01

Do we need, we don't need no straight man up in there, so we're gonna go ahead and skip on that. Um, but I do think we could have, we need a, we need a messy queen. We need a messy girl, we need a messy [BLEEP]. And I, and for me, it's probably T.S. Madison.

• 44:36Keke Palmer?

Oh, hell yes. Now this is a show.

• 44:40Speaker 01

It's not called The View, it's called The Mess.

• 44:43Keke Palmer?

Baby, we might have just sold [BLEEP].

• 44:45Speaker 01

  Welcome to The Mess.

• 44:47Keke Palmer?

Me, you, T.S. Madison and Candace Owens? My [BLEEP] is showing up.

• 44:53Speaker 01

No, they're showing up, they're showing out.

• 44:54Keke Palmer?

What do we talk, oh my gosh.

• 44:56Speaker 01

Current events, what we've been up to. I mean, it's, it, the, the mess would, would, would crush.

• 45:03Keke Palmer?

That? Who are we pitching it to? What network is taking it?

• 45:06Speaker 01

  And y'all say I couldn't inspire Beyonce.

• 45:10Keke Palmer?

  What network is taking this?

• 45:13Speaker 01

I think The Mess might need to be, oof, that's a real good question.

• 45:20Keke Palmer?

  Live news on Netflix?

• 45:22Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe it needs to be behind, it needs to be like

• 45:24Keke Palmer?

  You know what I mean?

• 45:24Speaker 01

A wall **** because it's gonna be, it's called The Mess. You can't have it be The Mess and have it be like, this week on The View. The Mess is gonna be messy.

• 45:32Keke Palmer?

  This is good.

• 45:34Speaker 01

  Oh, it's great.

• 45:34Keke Palmer?

I'm, I'm living for that. Oh, by the way, who was your dream guest on Sibling Rivalry?

• 45:39Speaker 01

You know what the truth is? I don't like having guests on the show. I don't like interviewing people.

• 45:42Keke Palmer?

It can be tough if you don't have, if you don't get somebody that wanna talk.

• 45:45Speaker 01

  Well, Monet Exchange is, uh,

• 45:47Keke Palmer?

  I love her.

• 45:48Speaker 01

She, she thinks she Oprah. She wanna interview, she wanna, she, she wanna be a journalist so bad. Meanwhile, I'm the one with the Peabody. I have, I have the actual journalism award, honey.

• 45:59Keke Palmer?

  Come on, Peabody.

• 46:00Speaker 01

I have the actual journalism award, honey.

• 46:02Keke Palmer?

  I live.

And I didn't get it for journalism, though. I got it for something else. I'm not a journalist. I just like to put it in Monet's face. Um, so Monet loves having guests because she likes to interview people. I don't really, I really don't like interviewing people. So my favorite guests I've had on the show have been my friends. Someone like Bianca Del Rio, uh, Peppermint, Mateo Lane, Nick Smith. Um, whenever friends swing by, that's when I'm happiest. Or if someone comes by, I want them to know that like, we're gonna be talking about the topic. And we can plug something, but I don't, I don't, I don't, I really don't like, I'm not good at faking interests.

• 46:32Keke Palmer?

Yeah. I mean, it's, it can happen sometimes, you know, because every guest is different, every conversation is different and yeah, to be curious is the thing.

• 46:39Speaker 01

If you're faking it, you'll get, eventually you'll get caught. You remember when the lady thought that, uh, Samuel Jackson was Laurence Fishburne?

• 46:44Keke Palmer?

That was crazy because they don't even, they don't even look alike.

• 46:46Speaker 01

They don't even look alike, but he said they get confused all the time. I'm also a Samuel Jackson stan.

• 46:51Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, do you know that they both were down to the bottom for Ike in, uh, What's Love Got To Do With It?

• 46:56Speaker 01

  Uh huh.

• 46:57Keke Palmer?

Samuel Jackson, he told me this story. I was doing a movie with him called The Cleaner when I was a kid. And he said, he was like, this is, you know, they told me it's up against me and Laurence Fishburne and I felt really good after the audition. The following day, I get flowers to my house and I just know I've got the role. Do you know they sent this man's flowers to tell him, no, you ain't got the role?

• 47:15Speaker 01

  That is kind, though.

• 47:16Keke Palmer?

But that's so annoying. What is this, my funeral?

• 47:18Speaker 01

Very annoying. But I do think that, I do think that, uh, Laurence was right for the role because

• 47:23Keke Palmer?

But Sam looks more like Ike.

• 47:25Speaker 01

But Samuel Jackson, he, he, I, I love Samuel, when I tell you I'm a Samuel Jackson stan,

• 47:30Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 47:30Speaker 01

I love Samuel Jackson, but it would, it would have been, it would have been like, you know, you know how he be talking? Tina Turner!

• 47:40Speaker 01

Adam A. Bullock. You know when he be like, uh, what, when he be like, uh, what, what's?

• 47:45Keke Palmer?

  All these snakes.

• 47:46Speaker 01

No, eh, eh, too, it's so many mother**** snakes on this mother**** plane. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Like, it's always that.

• 48:02Speaker 01

  It's always that.

• 48:03Keke Palmer?

Huh. Hilarious. Oh, my gosh, what's love got to do with this?

• 48:06Speaker 01

You're really good at impersonations. I'm not gonna ask you to do it.

• 48:08Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh. Well, actually, I have a game for us to play where that's what we're gonna do.

• 48:12Speaker 01

Oh, okay, let's do it. Let's wake it up.

• 48:14Keke Palmer?

But wait, I do wanna, before I get off, I just want everybody, me and you.

• 48:17Speaker 01

  I derail everything.

• 48:18Keke Palmer?

No, but me and you were having so much fun, and I just wanted to take a moment to quickly talk about all the things. Just literally want people to hear what you've released this year.

• 48:26Speaker 01

  Oh, thank you.

• 48:27Keke Palmer?

I mean, you released your debut novel, you performed at the Grammy Museum, obviously you appeared on Traitors, and launched a production company. I just want them to know that monks being fun and amazing and all that great stuff, you're so, you're achieving so much.

• 48:38Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 48:39Keke Palmer?

  So what was the highlight?

• 48:41Speaker 01

So one of my highlights this year was definitely becoming a New York Times bestselling novelist. Like, because I chose to be a novelist. So I didn't write autobiography, I didn't write, like, messy stories from...

• 48:50Keke Palmer?

  My life.

• 48:51Speaker 01

From Madonna, and the time Whoopi Goldberg told me this, and RuPaul whispered this. I wanted to write a fiction story about Harriet Tubman, that's called Harriet Tubman Live in Concert. And when I tell you all, I am so proud of this book.

• 49:04Keke Palmer?

  I mean, it's such a brilliant concept.

• 49:06Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 49:07Keke Palmer?

For her to be in this time and for you to read, then kind of retell what freedom is today.

• 49:11Speaker 01

And, and, and I, I would tell you, I, I made a New York Times bestseller, so luckily the list is top 15, it's not top 10. I was number 15. But I was 15 out of 15, but, but what's true to me is that I was actually 15 out of thousands.

• 49:22Keke Palmer?

  I'm like, that's a really hard thing.

• 49:23Speaker 01

Out of, and, and fiction, I released a book the same week as Wicked, the new Wicked book, Son of a Witch, or, or Wiki, Wiki, whatever the new one is.

• 49:32Keke Palmer?

  Wicked, y'all.

• 49:33Speaker 01

Bad Witch or something, I don't know what it is. He wrote a book, and then, uh, James, the retelling of, of, of Huckleberry Finn. These are monster books.

• 49:40Keke Palmer?

  Iconic books.

• 49:41Speaker 01

They're huge books, and I actually, I made it on that list. That was, I wish, I don't really agree. I wish my mom could have been there for this. I wish my mom could have been there for this. I know she would have been... So proud of me. I just know she would have been like over the moon to know that I made it on the New York Times Bestseller List. Especially telling the story of this remarkable black woman who has changed the lives of so many Americans. She is just.

• 50:00Keke Palmer?

  Amen.

• 50:01Speaker 01

She would have been so proud of me and I hope that the story gets out to more people. People don't know how amazing Harriet Tubman is, like she.

• 50:09Keke Palmer?

What is something that you think that even us black folks don't know that Harriet Tubman did or what she was about?

• 50:13Speaker 01

Harriet Tubman, first of all, she lived to be almost 100. She lived to be in her 90s.

• 50:16Keke Palmer?

  Amen.

• 50:17Speaker 01

Harriet Tubman was under five feet tall.

• 50:19Keke Palmer?

Oh my gosh, she was so tiny.

• 50:21Speaker 01

Shout out to the shorties. Harriet Tubman did all of that and all those trips back and forth were mostly in her 20s. In her 20s. Well, half of us couldn't even figure out most of it. She was figuring this out. Not only that, she, I mean, I can go on for days and she was physically disabled. She had a very, very, very severe brain injury.

• 50:40Keke Palmer?

  Swelling from.

• 50:41Speaker 01

So there was a period of time where there was an enslaved person, a young man in like a shop and he was doing something that the shop owner didn't like. So the shop owner threw a weight at him, like a weight, like a five pound weight, like a doorstop to hit him. He weaved, he weaved, it hit Harriet Tubman in her head, gave her a severe brain injury that gave her like basically induced narcolepsy. She would pass out for hours at a time, not like a restless slumber, like faint.

• 51:10Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, in somewhere dangerous, anywhere.

• 51:12Speaker 01

Anywhere. She would faint for hours at a time and she had this injury from her teens until she passed away. Harriet Tubman established a home for formerly enslaved people in upstate New York where she ended up living her last days. She also kind of, she not kind of, she got scammed in her last day. She actually built up all this savings. She had been storytelling. She sold her story. She was a community builder and then she like basically buried her money. And then she got scammed by these people in her town and they like beat her up. An old woman took her money and then she ended up living in a home that she founded for formerly enslaved people. But she was also taken care of there. There's a beautiful picture. It's the last photo I've ever taken. She is sitting in this, this chair wrapped in white.

• 51:58Speaker 01

Fabric, looking like, I mean, it's probably the most beautiful picture I've ever seen in my life. It might be the most beautiful picture I've ever seen in my life. Do y'all do pictures here?

• 52:08Keke Palmer?

  What do you mean?

• 52:08Speaker 01

  It's right here.

• 52:10Keke Palmer?

We can totally find it, you send it to us, yeah, we'll do it.

• 52:13Speaker 01

  It's there.

• 52:13Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 52:14Speaker 01

I would do that, and I ended up pointing to nothing in the videos. I was always me pointing to the air. But I love, I love this photo, and I love this woman's story. I love what she's created for us as black people, as Americans. Black history is American history.

• 52:27Keke Palmer?

  It is, 1,000%.

• 52:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:29Keke Palmer?

  1,000%.

• 52:32Speaker 01

So I'm very proud of that. Also, launching my production company, Pursuit Studios, I'm really proud of that. It's a place for the girls, gays, and nays, the GGTs, to come and do our stuff. If you're a cis, right, man, you can watch it, but you can't come, no point.

• 52:45Speaker 01

You know, to enjoy our stuff and create the kind of content that we want to see, that we want to hear, the kind of comedy, the kind of, you know, content.

• 52:53Keke Palmer?

  Narrating your stories.

• 52:55Speaker 01

  Yeah, 100%.

• 52:56Keke Palmer?

As it should be. I just, you know, I don't want to hit on it too hard if it brings up sad thoughts, but I did think it was amazing. Your mom, you grew up, she had a ball?

• 53:06Speaker 01

  A bar.

• 53:06Keke Palmer?

  A bar, a ball bar.

• 53:07Speaker 01

  Sensations.

• 53:08Keke Palmer?

  And she was also queer.

• 53:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:09Keke Palmer?

So I want to just know what it was like growing up to her, just quickly, like, just, I mean, she raised such an amazing young man, I want to know just a little bit about her.

• 53:16Speaker 01

  Man!

• 53:19Speaker 01

  Where?

• 53:22Speaker 01

  In here?

• 53:24Keke Palmer?

  You know, person, human?

• 53:25Speaker 01

  No, I'm a man, I'm a man, I'm a man. I'm a him, a he, a sir, a man. My mother, Martha Caldwell, from Corinth, Mississippi, Scorpio.

• 53:38Keke Palmer?

  Terrier.

• 53:38Speaker 01

I don't know much about Zodiac, but I like to tell people that I was raised by Scorpio, because everyone's like, ooh, raised by Scorpio is crazy. My mom was an amazing woman, an amazing, amazing woman. She owned a bar called Sensations, a drag bar in Columbia, Georgia called Sensations. Obviously, I was never in the bar, because I was too young to be in the bar. During, I was there when we were cleaning up during the day. But I was never there during, you know, offering hours. Because they're like, oh, there's a kid here. But my mom taught me a lot. I would say this, this is why, so, there's a queen on RuPaul's Drag Race named Gigi Good. And Gigi Good made it to the top, she didn't win, but she made it to the top, like, second or third place. And every episode, they're like, who made it to the office? She's like, my mom. Or they're like, who did this? My mom, my mom.

• 54:21Speaker 01

And when a kid is loved by their mom... It's like the most, and I'm not saying that a father's love or a grandma's love is not, is not good. And I don't, that's not what I'm saying. But for me personally, the, the love of your mother can get you to the highest of highs. And on my season, Derrick Berry said, um, he had a rough relationship with his mom. And he said, "My mom broke me and it feels like I never put myself back together." So the love of your mom can, it can build you up. And if your mom is your first bully, it can destroy you in the worst of ways. You know what I mean? And I think Gigi Good was so good on the show because she's had a mom who believed in her. And I had a mom who believed in me.

• 55:06Speaker 01

My mother believed that the sun rose when I woke up and it set when I went to sleep. She really did. My mother would call me minimum once a month just to pick up the phone and she would go, "I just want you to know you're funnier than Bianca Del Rio." And then she would hang up the phone and we would keep it pushing. Like, my mother believed in me so much. And so I want to ask why I'm overly confident. One is because I'm amazing.

• 55:28Keke Palmer?

  Duh.

• 55:29Speaker 01

And two is because my mom told me I was. And my mother would never lie to me. Why would she lie to me?

• 55:35Keke Palmer?

It's why we love your mother. And that's why we love all the house mothers too, for what the other piece that you just said. Because it's important to have somebody that's there that encourages you and tells you that you can do it. Because sometimes we just don't know.

• 55:46Speaker 01

  It's true.

• 55:47Keke Palmer?

  You know, we don't.

• 55:47Speaker 01

  It's so, so true.

• 55:49Keke Palmer?

Okay, let's wake this damn game up. So, we're returning to your Drag Race roots. We are about to play a little game. And it's going to be called "That's So Snatched." Okay. Now, we can't go as hard as the queens, obviously, but I live for impressions and I wanted to face off against one of the greats.

• 56:04Speaker 01

Now, I am great at Snatch Game because the rule of Snatch Game is to make RuPaul laugh. And I can always make anyone laugh. But I am not good at impersonations, but I am obsessed with doing them.

• 56:13Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 56:13Speaker 01

  I love doing impersonations.

• 56:15Keke Palmer?

It's all about having fun. So, pretty much, we're gonna call out a celebrity name and a situation and try to do their impersonation in that situation.

• 56:23Speaker 01

  Got it.

• 56:24Keke Palmer?

Okay. Whoopi Goldberg on a first date.

• 56:27Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 56:36Speaker 01

I gotta tell you, this date is going really well. Um, but I'm wondering, when the check comes, uh, who's gonna be paying for it? Uh, I mean, I'm not an old school kinda girl, and I'm willing to split the check with you, but, uh, I do believe that every once in a while, if you're asking me to pay for it, I don't know. That's my... My best Whoopi.

• 56:58Keke Palmer?

  Okay, here's one.

• 56:59Speaker 01

I love how deep her voice is. I am, I tell you, when I tell you I'm obsessed with her, I was watching Sister Act last night, being like, my gosh, she looks so beautiful in this movie.

• 57:07Keke Palmer?

  So gorgeous.

• 57:08Speaker 01

She, at the, at the top, with her and, um, what's her name? Oh, my gosh, she's from, she's Lauren's first wife in Wackish.

• 57:13Keke Palmer?

  Ja- oh, Jennifer Lewis.

• 57:15Speaker 01

  Jennifer Lewis, Jennifer Lewis!

• 57:15Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, Jennifer Lewis!

• 57:16Speaker 01

  Jennifer Lewis!

• 57:17Keke Palmer?

  Awesome, everybody.

• 57:18Speaker 01

Jennifer Lewis, uh, looking so beautiful.

• 57:21Keke Palmer?

Yeah, she was always looking big.

• 57:22Speaker 01

Oh, my god, how she looked. They should've, she should've had a bigger role in Sister Act 2.

• 57:27Keke Palmer?

And, cause it's like, when you're saying, it's like, I got, I'm thinking about, it's like a blip in my mind, her role.

• 57:32Speaker 01

It's, it literally is a blip. She's one of the dancers and singers, and then she vanishes. Jennifer Lewis!

• 57:37Keke Palmer?

But do you know originally, that role, and, and look, if I'm wrong, tear me up in the comments, but originally, the role of Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act was Fran Drescher, I thought.

• 57:45Speaker 01

I thought it was Ben Midler.

• 57:46Keke Palmer?

  I thought it was...

• 57:47Speaker 01

I don't know, so I don't know what the tea did. What's the tea?

• 57:49Keke Palmer?

  We were both so ready.

• 57:51Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 57:51Keke Palmer?

I live for entertainment and arts, like, tea like that.

• 57:55Speaker 01

You know Fran Drescher was the president of SAG? She not playing games.

• 57:58Keke Palmer?

  She's on our ass.

• 57:59Speaker 01

  She had her papers.

• 58:00Keke Palmer?

She's like, y'all not doing enough for the actors.

• 58:02Speaker 01

You know, the white woman stack her paper, she ain't playing games. But a white woman do this? Somebody [bleep] fire!

• 58:08Keke Palmer?

She got a [bleep] check. Okay, here's one for me.

• 58:10Speaker 01

Okay, here we go. Um, let's do Barack Obama working at the Waffle House.

• 58:20Speaker 02

How you doing, sir? So, we got eggs, we got, uh, we got bacon, we got, uh, grits. Uh, but, as far as I'm concerned, you look like you need, uh, uh, uh, a special. So, tell me-

• 58:35Speaker 01

Tell me what you want, sir. Okay, can I try?

• 58:37Keke Palmer?

  Yes, do it, please. Please.

• 58:42Speaker 01

Welcome to Alpha House. Here, we do have eggs. We do have grits. We even have orange juice. But we do not have universal healthcare.

• 58:56Speaker 01

  That is what we need.

• 58:57Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, we need so much.

• 59:00Speaker 01

  Boba Dog's got it.

• 59:03Speaker 01

When he talks, he talks real slow, then he speeds it up in the end.

• 59:06Keke Palmer?

  That's exactly how he talks.

• 59:08Speaker 01

  I was talking to Michelle.

• 59:14Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 59:17Keke Palmer?

Alan Cumming, shopping at Home Goods.

• 59:20Speaker 01

All right, here we go. Alan Cumming shopping at Home Goods.

• 59:27Speaker 01

  He's at the register.

• 59:27Keke Palmer?

  Okay.

• 59:32Speaker 01

We have several things here in front of us. And I don't know which one is a good thing or a bad thing. So, here I am with a candlestick. And I don't know if it is a good one or a bad one. So, before you check out, please reveal. Are you a good candlestick or a bad one? Thank you.

• 59:56Keke Palmer?

  That was so good.

• 59:57Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 59:58Keke Palmer?

Okay, last one for me on here.

• 1:00:00Speaker 01

How it works, Bob, gives it good. Okay, I'm gonna correct.

• 1:00:03Keke Palmer?

I know it's so hard to read. Sorry about that.

• 1:00:05Speaker 01

These glasses aren't prescription, I know.

• 1:00:07Keke Palmer?

  They're not?

• 1:00:07Speaker 01

No, but they're, isn't this pair of eyewear? Get into it.

• 1:00:12Speaker 01

  Pair of eyewear.

• 1:00:13Keke Palmer?

I love that you can change the colors like that.

• 1:00:15Speaker 01

  Girl.

• 1:00:15Keke Palmer?

Because the white is giving everything it needed to be given.

• 1:00:17Speaker 01

It's great. Okay, can I tell you about who were theater kids who've made it as pop stars?

• 1:00:21Keke Palmer?

  Let's go.

• 1:00:22Speaker 01

Theater kids make the best pop stars.

• 1:00:24Keke Palmer?

Because that's what it is. First of all, I can tell you three, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Ariana.

• 1:00:28Speaker 01

Yes, Madonna, Chapel Rohn. These are all theater kids.

• 1:00:32Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 1:00:33Speaker 01

Who have become pop stars. Now, unfortunately, rarely you can be an actual Broadway actor or go-pop star. I think Ariana might be the only one who's been. Broadway actor, pop star. But they won't, the, the, the, the world won't respect you as a pop star if they know you was on Broadway.

• 1:00:50Keke Palmer?

And jazz hands, like, why do y'all hate jazz hands? When did jazz hands become so inappropriate?

• 1:00:55Speaker 01

But when you do it the other way around, because Madonna's a theater kid, Gaga's a theater kid, Nicki Minaj is literally, they're, these are theater kids. Who just happen to be the world's most famous pop stars.

• 1:01:05Keke Palmer?

  Literally.

• 1:01:06Speaker 01

Cynthia could have been a pop star.

• 1:01:07Keke Palmer?

Oh, my gosh, and she making music now.

• 1:01:09Speaker 01

But she's a theater kid, but she's a theater kid, though.

• 1:01:11Keke Palmer?

  Yeah, and they're there.

• 1:01:11Speaker 01

She was a theater kid first. So we'll, we, we will, we will listen to the music. We will give you the Audrey McDonald treatment, we'll give you the Liza Minnelli treatment, we'll give you, we'll listen. But, but, you know, there are certain people like Jennifer, uh, Jennifer Hudson.

• 1:01:24Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 1:01:25Speaker 01

  Um.

• 1:01:26Keke Palmer?

  Heard her sing in person.

• 1:01:27Speaker 01

They always want to hear her sing someone else's songs. They, like, they will listen to her songs, but we want to hear you sing a song.

• 1:01:35Keke Palmer?

I don't like. Living under your spotlight on my. Yeah.

• 1:01:43Speaker 01

Do you ever do, uh, what's the, what's the, uh, okay, it's an impersonation of an impersonation.

• 1:01:49Keke Palmer?

  Somebody that just impersonated Jennifer.

• 1:01:51Speaker 01

Is, is, uh, someone impersonating Countess Von impersonating, uh.

• 1:01:58Keke Palmer?

When she was on that show with Usher?

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

She's, Julie from Philly. She's impersonating, uh, she's impersonating, um, Jill, Jill Scott, where she goes, um, what's the, what's the question of it? She goes, um, it's so, it's so good, Countess Von doing Jill Scott, you have to Google it.

• 1:02:12Keke Palmer?

I seen somebody impersonating Jennifer Hudson on the show, talking to Amy Murphy.

• 1:02:15Speaker 01

Yeah, that's what it is, you're here.

• 1:02:24Keke Palmer?

I get you some grits and eggs and some Vaseline.

• 1:02:28Speaker 01

  Please get Countess Von.

• 1:02:30Keke Palmer?

Jill always is talking about products.

• 1:02:31Speaker 01

  Yeah, very much so.

• 1:02:32Keke Palmer?

Vaseline, grits and eggs, get the mop and broom.

• 1:02:36Speaker 01

Jill Scott, we know you doing product placement. We know it's product placement, we know you got paid, we know Vaseline paid you. Vaseline did their big one, Vaseline got us to call petroleum jelly Vaseline.

• 1:02:47Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 1:02:48Speaker 01

Band-Aids did their big one, we call every bandage.

• 1:02:52Keke Palmer?

That's so, I always think about that, we call every girdle Spanx.

• 1:02:57Speaker 01

  Chapstick.

• 1:02:58Keke Palmer?

  Like, it's a brand.

• 1:03:00Speaker 01

All lip balm, we're calling Chapstick, they, they did their big one, like. Okay, Xerox, Chapstick,

• 1:03:05Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:05Speaker 01

  Vaseline, Spanx, Band-Aids.

• 1:03:08Keke Palmer?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:08Speaker 01

  They own the whole industry.

• 1:03:10Keke Palmer?

  It's crazy.

• 1:03:11Speaker 01

  It's kind of madness.

• 1:03:12Keke Palmer?

And anytime we see a cream in between a sandwich cookie, Oreo.

• 1:03:15Speaker 01

  Oreo, for sure.

• 1:03:16Keke Palmer?

  But it's not.

• 1:03:17Speaker 01

  No, it's a sandwich cookie.

• 1:03:19Keke Palmer?

  Isn't that crazy?

• 1:03:20Speaker 01

You have a favorite, um, ice cream?

• 1:03:22Keke Palmer?

Oh, my favorite ice cream, I'm going, well, ice cream or popsicle?

• 1:03:26Speaker 01

  Ice cream.

• 1:03:27Keke Palmer?

  Favorite ice cream, Butter Pecan.

• 1:03:29Speaker 01

  You're a popsicle girl, though.

• 1:03:30Keke Palmer?

Popsicle girl, I like the red, white, and blue.

• 1:03:32Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:03:33Keke Palmer?

  I mean, nothing but it.

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

Miracle. No. Miracle. Um, I like a Star Spangled Popstick. I, I really like, uh, baby, I'm gonna tell you right now, this ice cream is game changing.

• 1:03:48Keke Palmer?

Come on, put me onto something.

• 1:03:49Speaker 01

Once you have it, everything else will be a second choice. Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby.

• 1:03:56Keke Palmer?

Now, what does it involve? Because what's a chubby and a hubby?

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

It's pretzels, it is peanut butter, it is chocolate in a vanilla base, and I think there might be some caramel in it. Nothing matters. There was a period of time during COVID where I gained like thirty pounds on Chubby Hubby alone.

• 1:04:14Keke Palmer?

  Is that damn good?

• 1:04:15Speaker 01

A pint a night, a pint of ice cream every night.

• 1:04:20Keke Palmer?

  Babe.

• 1:04:21Speaker 01

Of Chubby Hubby. It was so good, and I regret nothing.

• 1:04:25Keke Palmer?

I'm going home and trying this immediately.

• 1:04:27Speaker 01

  It's, uh, it's amazing, it's always out.

• 1:04:28Keke Palmer?

I love having you on the show. What, you are just a ball, honey.

• 1:04:32Speaker 01

Thank you. Well, I guess I'm gonna give you my phone number after this, and we'll see if I call your mom.

• 1:04:36Keke Palmer?

Wait a minute, is the AC on?

• 1:04:37Speaker 01

  I'll see if Sharon answers.

• 1:04:39Keke Palmer?

Is the AC on in here?

• 1:04:41Speaker 01

Sharon's gonna be like, wow, Bobby Gregor.

• 1:04:45Speaker 01

  Do we hug?

• 1:04:46Keke Palmer?

  Yes.

• 1:04:46Speaker 01

Oh, we gotta hug, no, no, we gotta, we gotta prank.

• 1:04:53Keke Palmer?

Whether you're moving through grief, chasing a dream, figuring out love, or just trying to find your light, there's something in Bob's journey for all of us. I mean, he's an example that humor and heart can coexist, and that relationships don't have to follow any rules to be real. And with his book, he's helping to breathe new life into crucial figures from Black history in a way that is fearless, refreshing, and unforgettable, and that I appreciate. So, let's be like Bob, y'all, always bold, honest, and always evolving. I'll see you next time, because you know it's your girl.
