• 1:21Bill Simmons?

All right, taping this on a Friday afternoon, Chris Ryan is here. You've seen him on The Watch.

• 1:25Chris Ryan?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:26Bill Simmons?

You've seen him in a bunch of Ringer properties.

• 1:28Chris Ryan?

  Uh-huh.

• 1:29Bill Simmons?

Sean Fantasy. Hi. Host of The Big Picture. Mystery Project, I just told you to show up. I didn't tell you what it was about. No computers, no notes. So what did you think this was?

• 1:39Chris Ryan?

There was, uh, there's always the possibility of a surprise guest with you. You sometimes dangle a surprise guest.

• 1:46Bill Simmons?

You were worried about Chalamet, like you were wondering.

• 1:49Chris Ryan?

Chalamet's in England as far as I know.

• 1:50Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:51Chris Ryan?

Uh, so I was pretty certain he wasn't gonna be here. Also, if Tim Chalamet came on the show, I think you'd keep him under yourself, right? You guys have a lot to talk about.

• 1:58Bill Simmons?

Who knows? I'm a pretty generous guy.

• 2:03Chris Ryan?

And then the other possibility I was considering was doing a rewatchables blind, not knowing what we were gonna do.

• 2:11Bill Simmons?

We've always talked about it. It's been almost exactly 10 years since we did Heat in my little pool house.

• 2:16Chris Ryan?

  Or a rewatchables mailbag?

• 2:20Bill Simmons?

Really good guess. What'd you think, Sean?

• 2:22Sean Fennessey?

I thought you were shooting a porn here and you wanted us to see how it works. And I've never been on a porn set, so I thought that would have been exciting.

• 2:28Chris Ryan?

You wanted me and Sean to start heated rivalry?

• 2:30Bill Simmons?

Pod studio porn, yeah, heated rivalry podcast.

• 2:33Sean Fennessey?

I honestly have no idea. I thought, you mentioned this when we were here with Cameron Crowe last week. You're like, I got something I want to do with you. Can you stick around afterwards? And then we ran long, it didn't work out.

• 2:42Bill Simmons?

  That was a different idea.

• 2:43Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 2:44Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, this one needed CR.

• 2:45Chris Ryan?

The last idea I have is merch hall, like that you had some sort of merchandise hall that you wanted to show off and unbox or something.

• 2:51Sean Fennessey?

  Merch hall?

• 2:52Bill Simmons?

  Unboxing.

• 2:53Chris Ryan?

Like a eBay hall or maybe some physical media, something like that.

• 2:58Bill Simmons?

None of those are the answers.

• 3:00Sean Fennessey?

  It's five-year Oscars?

• 3:02Bill Simmons?

  Nope.

• 3:02Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 3:04Bill Simmons?

So Sean did the 25 for 25.

• 3:07Chris Ryan?

  Oh shit.

• 3:08Bill Simmons?

  It's almost done.

• 3:09Sean Fennessey?

Okay, yes, two more, two more.

• 3:11Bill Simmons?

  Two more.

• 3:11Sean Fennessey?

  Number two and number one.

• 3:12Bill Simmons?

  What was number three?

• 3:13Sean Fennessey?

Number three was 25th Hour, very controversial.

• 3:17Bill Simmons?

  That it was that high?

• 3:18Sean Fennessey?

Yes, but one of my favorite movies of all time.

• 3:20Bill Simmons?

I know, and you weren't on the rewatchables for it, which was, wasn't intentional. I don't remember why that happened.

• 3:25Chris Ryan?

Who was on the rewatchable? I wasn't on that.

• 3:26Bill Simmons?

  I don't remember. I don't remember anything we've done.

• 3:28Sean Fennessey?

  I think it was Wesley.

• 3:31Bill Simmons?

I put a lot of thought in this. I made a list. I moved stuff around. I went crazy. My 50 most rewatchable movies of the 21st century.

• 3:39Sean Fennessey?

  Wow. Okay, okay.

• 3:41Bill Simmons?

And I'm gonna tackle them from 50 to 1. And most important, they're just mine. This is my list.

• 3:48Sean Fennessey?

I have a million questions. First question, how many of them have appeared on the show already?

• 3:54Bill Simmons?

Probably somewhere between eighty and eighty-five percent.

• 3:58Sean Fennessey?

  Okay, that's cool.

• 3:59Bill Simmons?

Um, I'll give you some caveats. In eligible, so I was thinking about the movies I've rewatched the most since two thousand, right? Or two thousand one, because the twenty-first century starts in two thousand.

• 4:12Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, we fudged that, but yeah.

• 4:14Bill Simmons?

  Did you fudge it?

• 4:14Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 4:15Bill Simmons?

Did you use the two thousand movie?

• 4:16Sean Fennessey?

We used two, uh, I think we had one two thousand movie, but I'm, I forget what it is. I know, I've, I've heard this.

• 4:21Bill Simmons?

  Belongs to the last century.

• 4:22Sean Fennessey?

You're right, you're right. We should have done it in twenty twenty-four, but whatever.

• 4:25Bill Simmons?

So one of my things is no two thousand movies.

• 4:28Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 4:28Bill Simmons?

Belong to the last century. So you don't get Cast Away, you don't get Almost Famous, you don't get Gladiator, you don't get Remember the Titans.

• 4:34Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 4:34Bill Simmons?

Whole bunch of them we don't get.

• 4:35Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 4:37Bill Simmons?

Um, I thought with the whole movies I've watched the most or wanted to watch the most or have jumped into the most. There's a nebulous thing with my wife, who I've been dating and then married, but we've been together since nineteen ninety-eight. There's movies she's watched that have been on, but I wasn't necessarily watching them. So I'm gonna rule out The Holiday.

• 4:56Sean Fennessey?

Okay, one of the worst movies of the century.

• 4:59Bill Simmons?

That movie's been on all the time in my house, and Love Actually is another one.

• 5:03Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 5:03Bill Simmons?

These are all Nancy Meyers movies. My wife's watching those. I'm kinda jumping in and out, but I'm not, those aren't my choices.

• 5:09Chris Ryan?

So in case there was like a Nielsen audit of like, what is actually played in the Simmons house the most?

• 5:14Bill Simmons?

People would be like, where's The Holiday? It should be like eight.

• 5:18Chris Ryan?

Wife had The Holiday up on the big screen. You have Pacers Bucks on the little screen.

• 5:23Bill Simmons?

There's sometimes when you're the offensive coordinator, but then the head coach says, I'm gonna call the fourth quarter here. And that's, that's a whole genre of movies I didn't include them.

• 5:32Sean Fennessey?

So you're saying in this, these scenarios, your wife is Dan Campbell.

• 5:35Bill Simmons?

This is me, what the heart wants, what the heart wants. I watched this three weeks ago. I can't believe I'm watching this again.

• 5:41Chris Ryan?

  Right.

• 5:41Bill Simmons?

I haven't seen this in nine months. It's time.

• 5:44Sean Fennessey?

This is the CR, by the way. CR famous for, he goes to a restaurant, he and his wife, they love it. And then three days later, they just go back. They're like, I wanna keep going.

• 5:53Bill Simmons?

  Exact same.

• 5:53Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 5:54Chris Ryan?

Not necessarily. I, I like to, I, it's usually an atmosphere thing. It's a feeling. It's not necessarily the meal. Yeah.

• 6:00Sean Fennessey?

  Oh.

• 6:01Bill Simmons?

  I love that documentaries.

• 6:04Bill Simmons?

I don't know if that's fair or unfair.

• 6:05Sean Fennessey?

We did the same thing. We didn't do any docs.

• 6:07Bill Simmons?

I just think that's a different argument. I left out a couple of my son's favorite movies that I've watched a ton of times with them, but they were always his choice or him trying to watch it. So I want to give a shout out to mid 90s, his favorite movie of all time.

• 6:20Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, the Joan Hill movie.

• 6:20Bill Simmons?

And Big Time Adolescence, his other favorite movie of all time.

• 6:23Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 6:24Bill Simmons?

That I would not have on this list. There are other ones that we've watched together a bunch of times, but those are always his choices.

• 6:31Chris Ryan?

I would love to know Ben's Letterboxd four.

• 6:33Sean Fennessey?

Are there any other movies on your list that are streaming first, like Big Time Adolescence was? Cause then that movie goes like straight to Peacock?

• 6:42Bill Simmons?

There's a couple on the list, but that, this is my last caveat. It's tougher for the newer ones. I found as I made the list, I was favoring stuff from 2001 through 2010 and the 2010s. Once, so like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

• 6:58Bill Simmons?

That movie came out right before COVID. I don't feel like I've spent enough time with it yet, and I thought it would have been disingenuous to put it on.

• 7:07Bill Simmons?

Even though I want to, and I feel like 10 years from now it will be on there, but compared to the other ones I have on this list.

• 7:13Sean Fennessey?

So you basically have nothing after 19?

• 7:16Chris Ryan?

  No.

• 7:16Bill Simmons?

No, I have a couple in there from after 19.

• 7:18Chris Ryan?

In my mind, I'm starting to generate ideas here. Yeah, I bet.

• 7:22Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 7:22Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 7:23Bill Simmons?

So that's it. That's everything I've laid out and I made a list of 50.

• 7:27Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 7:27Bill Simmons?

And I was just gonna go 50 to one and we could just talk quickly about each one. Or I could just keep going, but you could basically like whammy stop.

• 7:36Sean Fennessey?

Well, why is Zoe's taste not represented in the caveats?

• 7:40Bill Simmons?

That's, it actually kinda is with a couple of these, but Zoe's on a whole other level. She's watching entire Grey's Anatomy, you know, start to finish. She's watching all of those.

• 7:50Chris Ryan?

She's more of a TV person.

• 7:51Bill Simmons?

Summer I Turned Pretty. Yeah, she's way more TV than the movie.

• 7:54Chris Ryan?

Zoe on the watch is what you're saying. Yeah.

• 7:57Bill Simmons?

Well, then the movies she's watching are the stuff like where somebody meets in high school and the guy dies, but then his angel's still goes into somebody else's body. All that stuff.

• 8:06Sean Fennessey?

  Got it. Okay.

• 8:08Bill Simmons?

  All right, here we go.

• 8:09Sean Fennessey?

I want to hear more about the movie with the guy where he's an angel.

• 8:12Bill Simmons?

I just made that up. Yeah, I should trademark that right now.

• 8:16Chris Ryan?

Are they angels or are they just regretting you?

• 8:19Sean Fennessey?

  It's not angels.

• 8:20Bill Simmons?

Oh, so we watched that over Thanksgiving break when Zoe was here. That movie did not make the list.

• 8:25Sean Fennessey?

Truly deranged movie, like a movie that doesn't realize how funny it is.

• 8:30Bill Simmons?

Oh, we realized that immediately. We made jokes and laughed all. Do you know the premise of that movie?

• 8:34Chris Ryan?

Isn't it like two people's partners die in a car accident and then the two people like kind of sort through their feelings about them kind of thing?

• 8:41Bill Simmons?

  The other two.

• 8:42Sean Fennessey?

But they were kind of always in love. Yeah. There's a lot of like parental who's the real daddy stuff going on in it too.

• 8:49Chris Ryan?

Like paternity kind of stuff? That's cool.

• 8:52Bill Simmons?

It's another Dave Franco. I'm not sure how this quite happened career wise. But then on top of it, it's Alison Williams, season tickets. I'm just always going to support her.

• 9:03Sean Fennessey?

I feel the exact same way. I really enjoy her as well.

• 9:06Bill Simmons?

Really enjoy her. Would love to see her on a nice little prestige something.

• 9:10Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 9:10Bill Simmons?

Cause she had been Shiv Roy having her kid kidnapped on Peacock. I feel like she could have.

• 9:14Chris Ryan?

She should at least been like Shiv Roy's like best friend on All Her Fault.

• 9:17Sean Fennessey?

Did you both watch that show?

• 9:18Chris Ryan?

I watched the first one and then my wife.

• 9:21Sean Fennessey?

  The first episode?

• 9:21Chris Ryan?

Yeah, and my wife burned through it.

• 9:23Sean Fennessey?

Okay, you watched all of it?

• 9:25Bill Simmons?

Bang through it. If it's kidnapping, I'm there. I don't even need to know anything else.

• 9:31Chris Ryan?

You've really settled into a trash prestige like zone. Like you love Beastin' Me, All Her Fault, like that.

• 9:37Bill Simmons?

But Beastin' Me is better than All Her Fault.

• 9:39Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 9:40Bill Simmons?

My sweet spot is if it's a prestige TV show that I don't really totally have to watch as I'm watching it.

• 9:47Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 9:47Chris Ryan?

  Right.

• 9:47Bill Simmons?

I'm like half watching. Pluribus, I heard there's cannibalism. I might be back. I only saw the first one.

• 9:54Sean Fennessey?

  Kind of.

• 9:55Chris Ryan?

  I won't comment on that.

• 9:57Sean Fennessey?

How's Snook doing these days? I've missed her.

• 10:02Bill Simmons?

You know, I, I think we found out there weren't a lot of out pitches other than the splitter.

• 10:07Sean Fennessey?

  I see. But it's, it's a nasty splitter, though.

• 10:11Bill Simmons?

  Really good splitter.

• 10:11Sean Fennessey?

  Great bite on that pitch.

• 10:13Bill Simmons?

  I'm not sure there's.

• 10:14Chris Ryan?

Is it like she, she would be great as the third starter on the Dodgers, but maybe not the ace of the Pirates kind of thing?

• 10:19Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 10:19Sean Fennessey?

  She needs to develop.

• 10:20Bill Simmons?

Maybe even the number five starter on the Dodgers.

• 10:22Sean Fennessey?

You know, it's never too late to develop a change up. That's something that I like to say.

• 10:26Bill Simmons?

We'll see with her. All right, here we go.

• 10:27Chris Ryan?

  I think she's great.

• 10:29Bill Simmons?

My top 50 going down from 50 to one.

• 10:33Bill Simmons?

Number 50, just go with it. Adam Sandler.

• 10:37Sean Fennessey?

This is a Simmons family classic.

• 10:39Bill Simmons?

  Jennifer Aniston.

• 10:42Bill Simmons?

  It's, it's, there's a Nicole Kidman. And who's the, who's Dave Matthews? They have a cameo.

• 10:49Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 10:49Bill Simmons?

You get to go to Hawaii. This was a big movie for us during COVID when everybody was trapped.

• 10:53Chris Ryan?

  Kind of a mystery?

• 10:55Bill Simmons?

No. Oh, no. No, he's, he works, I think he runs like a sports store. And, or, or he's like a plastic surgeon. I can't even remember his job, but Jennifer Aniston works for him.

• 11:05Sean Fennessey?

He either runs a sports store or he's a plastic surgeon.

• 11:08Bill Simmons?

The thing is, I've seen this movie 30 times. And he's dating Brooklyn Decker.

• 11:13Sean Fennessey?

Yes, that's what this movie is best known for.

• 11:15Bill Simmons?

And they're about to get married, but Aniston goes on the vacation with him and then he's starting to realize he might have feelings for her and not Brooklyn Decker. And hijinks and misunderstandings ensue, but we're in Hawaii the whole time.

• 11:26Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 11:27Bill Simmons?

This movie's just delivered the goods for the Simmons family.

• 11:30Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 11:30Bill Simmons?

  Ever since it came out.

• 11:31Sean Fennessey?

Memorable sequence where Brooklyn Decker is emerging from the ocean.

• 11:35Chris Ryan?

  I recall that.

• 11:36Sean Fennessey?

  Wearing a bikini.

• 11:37Bill Simmons?

Number 49, about to already get controversial.

• 11:40Chris Ryan?

Can I ask you just a quick question between 50 and 49? Any metrics applied to this stuff? Like, was there?

• 11:45Bill Simmons?

  You know what?

• 11:45Chris Ryan?

  Any like number of rewatches?

• 11:48Bill Simmons?

No, it just mentally, how many times I've dived in, do I own it? Um, is it something my wife and I like equally? Like those kind of things, which brings us to forty nine. A lot like love with Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher.

• 12:03Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 12:03Bill Simmons?

This movie came out twenty one years ago. It's the best work Ashton Kutcher's ever done.

• 12:08Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 12:09Bill Simmons?

It is a great answer for the, if you had a Panda Pete season tickets. Why was, why wasn't she Julie Roberts, basically?

• 12:19Sean Fennessey?

I feel like this movie came out in nineteen ninety eight. Did it really come out in two thousand and four?

• 12:22Bill Simmons?

  The music is exceptional.

• 12:24Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 12:24Bill Simmons?

It's exceptionally rewatchable and my wife loves it. And it's one of those ones where my wife loves it, but I always jump in when she's watching.

• 12:32Sean Fennessey?

  A lot like love.

• 12:33Bill Simmons?

  A lot like love.

• 12:34Sean Fennessey?

So I saw this in movie theaters, but I could have sworn I saw it in high school on a date. I guess not.

• 12:40Bill Simmons?

  It's really good.

• 12:41Chris Ryan?

  I don't think I've ever seen this.

• 12:42Bill Simmons?

  It's really good.

• 12:42Chris Ryan?

Did see Amanda Peet at a sushi restaurant the other week and fully did the Alonzo morning gif where I was just like. We still got it.

• 12:53Sean Fennessey?

So first two have not appeared on the rewatchables.

• 12:56Bill Simmons?

They have not. A lot like love is on some sort of list.

• 13:00Sean Fennessey?

  You're circling it.

• 13:00Bill Simmons?

One thing with a lot like love that I like, I like the structure in general, especially for rewatchables, is the characters aging over the years.

• 13:07Sean Fennessey?

  Uh huh.

• 13:08Bill Simmons?

And running into each other three, four years later, I just think sucks me in every time. Okay. From a rewatchable standpoint, wearing different wigs. Um, there's a Kutcher discussion for this movie.

• 13:20Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 13:21Chris Ryan?

Of like what he left on the table?

• 13:23Bill Simmons?

He's really good in this movie. I'm, I'm telling you, I would defend Ashton Kutcher in this movie to the death. That my wife, it's like one of her favorite, why didn't he have a bigger career actors? Even though I get, guess you'd say he did have a big career.

• 13:33Chris Ryan?

  I mean, isn't the big sliding door, I wonder, I mean, I, I didn't know.

• 13:37Bill Simmons?

  The Cameron Crowe movie.

• 13:37Chris Ryan?

  It's Elizabeth Town, right?

• 13:39Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 13:39Sean Fennessey?

Top five, uh, performances by Kutcher right now. Let's do it. Uh, number five, The Guardian, uh, with Kevin Costner.

• 13:47Bill Simmons?

  See, he's.

• 13:48Sean Fennessey?

Number four, uh, what's that movie where he seduces Anne Haeish? What's it called? Uh, it's not split, it's.

• 13:57Chris Ryan?

I'm honestly struggling to think of this.

• 13:58Bill Simmons?

Yeah, I can't think of five Ashton Kutcher movies.

• 14:00Chris Ryan?

IMDb. I mean, like, he was on The Ranch for like five, six years. He was on Seventy Show.

• 14:05Bill Simmons?

He did one of those best friend fall in love movies where it was like him and Mila Kunis or him with somebody like Mila Kunis. Yeah, it was like one of those.

• 14:12Sean Fennessey?

No Strings Attached. Directed by Ivan Reitman, starring Natalie Portman. He's not bad in that.

• 14:17Bill Simmons?

It's not bad. That's probably his second best movie ever.

• 14:20Sean Fennessey?

What about his portrayal of Steve Jobs in the movie Steve Jobs?

• 14:23Chris Ryan?

Kind of got nuked off the face of the earth.

• 14:24Sean Fennessey?

By the other Jobs movie, yeah.

• 14:26Bill Simmons?

A lot like Love's interesting because it spans, he's in, he's in the tech boom in the early 2000s and it feels like he's gonna have this awesome company. And then it doesn't work out. And then him and Amanda Peet, they keep running into each other. And then near the end, they realize they're in love.

• 14:39Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 14:40Bill Simmons?

  It's a good rom-com.

• 14:41Sean Fennessey?

Is this Kutcher's last appearance on the list?

• 14:43Bill Simmons?

  Yeah. Number forty-eight, Knocked Up.

• 14:47Sean Fennessey?

  Oh, yeah, great.

• 14:48Chris Ryan?

  Knocked Up is forty-eight.

• 14:48Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, forty-eight.

• 14:50Sean Fennessey?

Knocked Up is a lot like Love and Knocked Up, or just like this.

• 14:54Bill Simmons?

My issue with this movie is it's too long and I don't like the last half hour. But I really like the first hour. And there's a couple of movies on this list where from a rewatchable standpoint.

• 15:02Chris Ryan?

Like when it first starts and he's with all his friends and stuff like that.

• 15:05Bill Simmons?

Great, great first hour. I love everything. Leslie Mann's insane in it. And there's some really good friend stuff. There's some classic like Appetow stuff. It's young Seth Rogen. Heigl probably peak of her powers, whatever powers those were.

• 15:20Sean Fennessey?

  The floor is yours.

• 15:21Chris Ryan?

Huge fan. Huge fan of her as Izzy on Grey's Anatomy and in this movie. Yeah.

• 15:25Bill Simmons?

This movie really falls apart, but from a rewatchable standpoint, and I can't remember, did we do it on?

• 15:30Chris Ryan?

  When does it fall apart?

• 15:31Bill Simmons?

We did it on, the last like twenty-five minutes.

• 15:33Chris Ryan?

When he like puts it all back together.

• 15:35Bill Simmons?

They're having a kid and it's, we did it on rewatch.

• 15:37Sean Fennessey?

Everything also that takes place at E, where Katherine Heigl works is really funny. All that stuff is great.

• 15:42Bill Simmons?

It's a good movie. See, we've had twenty-five years. I mean, it's like Knocked Up forty-eight, but we've had a lot of movies. Number forty-seven, Flight. We've done this on rewatchables. It's hilarious that it's so rewatchable, but it really is. And we covered all the reasons when we did the podcast about it.

• 15:57Chris Ryan?

I feel like Denzel's house hearing is becoming more and more, or his like NTSB hearing is becoming more and more of a meme these days. It's just like when they ask me.

• 16:10Sean Fennessey?

  The, the scene where.

• 16:11Chris Ryan?

When they ask Lane Kiffin like where he's been in the last two weeks.

• 16:15Sean Fennessey?

When he breaks into the mini fridge in the hotel and Feeling Alright hits, that was me when all the Mets news was happening. The week I was there. Where's the fucking podcast?

• 16:27Bill Simmons?

What's, I was thinking one of the things with rewatchables with this, by the way, I have no notes other than the list. I don't know why I keep looking down at my iPad. A big signature event that you know Castaway has is sadly not on the list, but it's like, oh, the plane crash is coming. I want to watch this. Flight has the, oh, we're about to, Denzel's about to try to fly this plane drunk. I think I'm going to be in for the next 15 minutes and then you just get sucked in.

• 16:53Chris Ryan?

One of my favorite trailers, just because it's mostly the crash with, uh, feeling all right and give me shelter, which is just like the most bonehead music selections ever. At this point, uh, also I would love to get a supplemental list going of most rewatched scenes on YouTube from this group of movies.

• 17:13Bill Simmons?

  Oh, that's interesting.

• 17:13Chris Ryan?

And I think the flight plane crash would go pretty high for me on this.

• 17:17Sean Fennessey?

I'm going to guess there are two more Denzel movies on the list.

• 17:20Bill Simmons?

  Oh, there's one in that.

• 17:21Chris Ryan?

  I'll take the over, yeah.

• 17:23Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 17:23Bill Simmons?

Including the next movie, number 46, The Equalizer.

• 17:27Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 17:28Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 17:29Chris Ryan?

  This is really fun.

• 17:31Bill Simmons?

  Just a textbook rewatchable.

• 17:32Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 17:33Bill Simmons?

  Textbook.

• 17:33Sean Fennessey?

  So I know.

• 17:34Chris Ryan?

Do you think there's more than one Equalizer on this list?

• 17:37Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 17:38Sean Fennessey?

  I, I, I prefer Equalizer 3. That's my favorite of the three.

• 17:41Bill Simmons?

I know that. The great thing about the Equalizer franchise, it's not like the Taken franchise where Taken 1 is clearly best, 2's second best, and then 3 is like, alright, fine.

• 17:50Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 17:50Bill Simmons?

Equalizer, there are people who are like, E3 is my, my one.

• 17:54Chris Ryan?

  E3 is Italy, right?

• 17:54Sean Fennessey?

  E3 is Italy.

• 17:55Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 17:56Sean Fennessey?

And it looks, it looks great. And he's like retired and become like a pasta maker or something. It's fucking ridiculous, but.

• 18:01Chris Ryan?

Pedro Pascal is Equalizer 2, right?

• 18:03Sean Fennessey?

  2, yeah.

• 18:06Bill Simmons?

Really good movie. Wish they just made more movies like The Equalizer.

• 18:09Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 18:10Bill Simmons?

I just feel like we could be banging these out with any male action star we have. I don't know what's, what we're doing wrong.

• 18:16Sean Fennessey?

It's his John Wick, right? And it's just, it's, the only real physical activity he has to do is just like quickly grab a gun away from a guy. Like he doesn't have to punch and kick people anymore. He's just, just needs to shoot you in the face.

• 18:27Bill Simmons?

What do we have in this movie? Is it Albanians?

• 18:30Chris Ryan?

  Equalizer 1?

• 18:31Bill Simmons?

  Equalizer 1, I guess, it's somebody.

• 18:33Chris Ryan?

It's not, isn't it not the Russian mob?

• 18:35Bill Simmons?

Maybe the, maybe it's just Russians.

• 18:38Chris Ryan?

Cause he goes and fucks all those guys up in the beginning and they're like, oh my God, you know who you just messed with? And he's just like, I don't care.

• 18:45Bill Simmons?

First sports movie, number forty five, Miracle.

• 18:48Sean Fennessey?

  Hmm. What year is that?

• 18:51Bill Simmons?

  Uh, two thousand four range.

• 18:52Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 18:53Chris Ryan?

We did do this on rewatch.

• 18:54Bill Simmons?

  We did do that one.

• 18:54Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah. Really good movie.

• 18:56Bill Simmons?

Has some good jump in things, has some good throw down in the background moments, um, some good speeches.

• 19:01Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, Russell's awesome in this movie. Yeah.

• 19:04Bill Simmons?

Fun to relive us beating the Russians. Number forty four movie we have not done on rewatchables, Borat.

• 19:12Sean Fennessey?

Holds up. Rewatched it during covid.

• 19:15Bill Simmons?

Some really fun stretches from a rewatchable standpoint.

• 19:18Chris Ryan?

Some of the hardest I've ever laughed in my life.

• 19:20Bill Simmons?

Really, really, really good. It's almost twenty years old.

• 19:24Sean Fennessey?

Do you go back to it?

• 19:26Bill Simmons?

Yeah, I go back to sections of it. I really like when he shows up in New York and he's watching TV. And he's just falls in love with Pamela Anderson. Like, there's just some really deeply funny shit.

• 19:37Sean Fennessey?

You like the wrestling scene in the hotel room?

• 19:39Bill Simmons?

  I do.

• 19:42Bill Simmons?

Great job by Azamat. Uh, another comedy, number forty three, Wedding Crashers.

• 19:47Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 19:48Chris Ryan?

Oh, that's, I, I would imagine Wedding Crashers would have been a little higher.

• 19:51Bill Simmons?

So, really, really strong first hour.

• 19:54Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 19:55Bill Simmons?

It's another one where it's like, first hour, wow, I'm in. And then you don't kind of care if you finish it. But some great ones.

• 20:02Chris Ryan?

You don't like it when comedies get sad.

• 20:05Bill Simmons?

Oh, it's just sometimes they shoot their wad in the first five innings.

• 20:08Chris Ryan?

I mean, the, the opening ten minutes of this movie is like about as ecstatic as you can get.

• 20:13Sean Fennessey?

The negotiation with Dwight Yoakam and then into the, the montage.

• 20:17Chris Ryan?

  With DuMornay.

• 20:18Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 20:18Bill Simmons?

It's aged in a really interesting way.

• 20:20Chris Ryan?

Shut your mouth when you're talking to me.

• 20:24Bill Simmons?

It's aged because, aged well because of Bradley Cooper. It's just funny to see him.

• 20:28Sean Fennessey?

  Sack.

• 20:28Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 20:29Bill Simmons?

Not knowing he's gonna be famous yet. Um, but then also, uh, what's his face? The, I'm blanking.

• 20:36Chris Ryan?

  Christopher Walken?

• 20:37Bill Simmons?

No, the, the, what's the name of the guy who plays the, the range brother?

• 20:41Chris Ryan?

  Oh, Will Ferrell?

• 20:42Bill Simmons?

No, he's the, the one, the.

• 20:44Sean Fennessey?

  The younger guy.

• 20:44Bill Simmons?

The younger brother, whatever that guy's name is.

• 20:46Sean Fennessey?

  Oh, I can't remember.

• 20:47Chris Ryan?

Oh, the one who does the painting?

• 20:51Bill Simmons?

He was my worst case scenario for Ben.

• 20:52Sean Fennessey?

  Is it Todd?

• 20:53Bill Simmons?

My worst case scenario for Ben for a long time.

• 20:55Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 20:56Bill Simmons?

The touch football scene. Was great.

• 21:00Sean Fennessey?

I just think that at that moment in time, Vaughn and and Nolan Wilson had something special chemistry wise, like, you know, and they tried to recreate it in movies after that and they couldn't ever get back to that specifically, but they were so great together.

• 21:13Bill Simmons?

  It's really fun time.

• 21:13Chris Ryan?

It's interesting to hear them talk about it and be like, they won't let us make an R rated movie, basically. And it's just like, you guys.

• 21:20Sean Fennessey?

You just want to watch Vince Vaughn grab Jane Seymour's breasts again. That's something that's important to you.

• 21:26Bill Simmons?

Jane Seymour, uh, number forty two Wolf of Wall Street. It's very long, but from a rewatchable standpoint, hopping in the sections really works with this movie.

• 21:35Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 21:36Sean Fennessey?

And no scene is too long. That's one part of the reason why I love it so much. It doesn't feel long to me because it's like it moves, it moves really fast.

• 21:43Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 21:46Bill Simmons?

  Number forty one Sicario.

• 21:50Chris Ryan?

  Forty one?

• 21:57Chris Ryan?

Well, you can't, are you going to talk about it? What are you going to do? You talk about it.

• 22:01Bill Simmons?

Not going to talk about it.

• 22:02Chris Ryan?

I'm not going to talk about it because I'm saving it for the pot.

• 22:04Sean Fennessey?

I'll talk about it if you want. It's a film directed by Denis Villeneuve. It's about a narco terrorism and the way that the US government is encroaching upon its own jurisdictions in Mexico, Josh Brolin.

• 22:18Bill Simmons?

Has a lot of our favorite people in it.

• 22:20Sean Fennessey?

  You know, Benito del Toro.

• 22:22Bill Simmons?

  Really good Emily Blunt performance.

• 22:23Chris Ryan?

  Emily Blunt, yeah. Bernthal.

• 22:25Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 22:26Sean Fennessey?

  Bernthal, sure.

• 22:28Bill Simmons?

Solid movie. We may have to do it at some point in the rewatchables.

• 22:31Chris Ryan?

You didn't react to, I sent Sean the same clip, the clip of Bernthal talking to Shia LaBeouf about we're working at Home Depot.

• 22:39Sean Fennessey?

The poetry of me, not the poetry of you. I'm talking about the poetry of me.

• 22:42Chris Ryan?

You really think you could work at Home Depot? That's something you think you could do?

• 22:45Sean Fennessey?

He's like, I'm there all the time. I'm there all the time. I love it.

• 22:50Bill Simmons?

All right, we'll take a break and then we'll do the top 40. This episode is brought to you by Searchlight Pictures Wild Horse 9. John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, I like those guys, star in the sharp-witted comedy thriller from Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh. Writer-director of The Banshees of Minneh Sharon and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, set in the 1970s, filmed on location on Easter Island. Malkovich and Rockwell play CIA agents Chris and Lee, who are caught in a dangerous game of secrets and survival. Also starring Steve Buscemi, another one of my guys, Parker Posey and Tom Waits. Wild Horse 9 is being hailed by critics as a revitalizing shot of pure entertainment and easily one of the best films of the year.

• 23:34Bill Simmons?

Don't miss Wild Horse 9, only in theaters November 6th. Get tickets now. This episode is brought to you by Quince. Finding a decent piece of clothing can be a lot harder than finding a decent movie, but that was before Quince. Quince has staple pieces made from premium materials like 100% Mongolian cashmere, and everything is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. It's the perfect place to start building a cozy fall outfit without any absurd markups. For instance, I love a good vest. They have a lightweight, down, packable puffer vest, which is an easy fall layer, although nobody loves layers more than Chris Ryan. You can throw it over a sweater, long sleeve, whenever you want to make an outfit feel a little more seasonal.

• 24:16Bill Simmons?

Simple, classic, one of those pieces that works with pretty much everything that's already in your closet. Find your next fall favorites at Quince. Download the Quince app for app-exclusive offers or go to quince.com. Get free shipping on your order, 365-day returns now available in Canada and the UK, too. And when Quince asks where you heard about them, let them know it's a Rewatchables podcast. They would appreciate that. It's the best way to support the show. All right, top 40. Number 40, Collateral.

• 24:42Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 24:42Bill Simmons?

A movie that I saw in the theater at The Grove in LA and really enjoyed it and never thought it would be a movie I watched multiple, multiple times over the next 20 years.

• 24:53Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 24:54Bill Simmons?

But there's, I think, because we live here, that helps. Evil Cruz, Fox is really good. Figuring out some of the stuff Michael Mann always fucks up about LA, about how easy it is to get from there to there.

• 25:06Chris Ryan?

  Careful, he disagrees with you.

• 25:08Bill Simmons?

I know, he does. But this one has aged really nicely.

• 25:12Chris Ryan?

And the guy who shot this is shooting Heat 2. Which is apparently going into production next summer.

• 25:17Sean Fennessey?

We didn't do this on 25 or 25, but maybe I made a mistake on that. This is like-

• 25:21Chris Ryan?

Did you do a Michael Mann?

• 25:22Sean Fennessey?

No. This is high up there on my list.

• 25:24Bill Simmons?

  Fucking hater.

• 25:25Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. The, so Thief and Heat are always one, two, for me. But this Manhunter and Insider are in like a death match for three. And I, I love this movie.

• 25:36Chris Ryan?

I know this isn't your last Michael Mann on this list.

• 25:38Bill Simmons?

  It's definitely not.

• 25:39Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 25:40Bill Simmons?

Um, I think from a rewatchable standpoint, we already did this one, but uh, there's just a couple of great scenes.

• 25:46Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 25:47Bill Simmons?

Like that scene where he goes-

• 25:48Chris Ryan?

Hey homie, is that my briefcase?

• 25:49Bill Simmons?

  The jazz club scene.

• 25:51Sean Fennessey?

  Incredible.

• 25:51Bill Simmons?

When that guy realizes that Cruz is, what's going on? Like, I don't know. There's-

• 25:56Sean Fennessey?

What, so, did we see this together or no? I don't think so.

• 25:58Chris Ryan?

What year did this come out?

• 26:00Bill Simmons?

Oh, five, oh, six? I'm gonna say oh, five.

• 26:02Chris Ryan?

  Very possible.

• 26:02Sean Fennessey?

  Right around when we met.

• 26:03Chris Ryan?

We saw Miami Vice together. I don't know if we saw Collateral together.

• 26:05Sean Fennessey?

But I remember Chris being like, I, when I grow up, I wanna be Pete Berg and Mark Ruffalo in this movie. Like, that was just, he wanted his whole personality to be those guys.

• 26:13Chris Ryan?

I did a task panel talk recently and I was like, I didn't even have a question. I was just like, Mark Ruffalo, you were in Collateral. And he was like, yeah, man, cool.

• 26:25Chris Ryan?

I was like, you had that goatee, right? And he was just like, yo.

• 26:30Bill Simmons?

You're trying to find that guy? Number thirty-nine, Mean Girls.

• 26:34Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 26:34Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, good call.

• 26:35Sean Fennessey?

  Very good.

• 26:36Bill Simmons?

Good family movie. Uh, really good movie. Lindsay Lohan's just great in it.

• 26:41Sean Fennessey?

You've done this on the rewatchables.

• 26:42Bill Simmons?

We did it. We did it pretty early. Might have to redo it. Yeah.

• 26:45Sean Fennessey?

Really funny movie. Did you see the musical? The musical remake?

• 26:48Bill Simmons?

Didn't like the musicals much. I think one good thing with Mean Girls, it's good from beginning to end. The whole movie's really good. It has the classic arcs of all the eighties teen things where it's like, oh, popularity went to her head. Now she's gotta find herself again, but it's just really smart. Tim Meadows is really good in it.

• 27:05Sean Fennessey?

  Hilarious, yeah.

• 27:06Bill Simmons?

Uh, Tina Fey's good, script's good, whole thing's good. Big win.

• 27:09Sean Fennessey?

The, it, it's one of the few twenty-first century comedies that reminds me a lot of the John Hughes movies or the Vacation movies. Where it's like, this movie is just eternal. Like, the, the idea of it is never gonna expire. And it's like, going into like, high school is really hard and really hard on girls. I think about this all the time with my daughter. It's like, that movie is just gonna be around for another hundred years.

• 27:28Bill Simmons?

It's one of the rare movies on this list that my wife, my daughter, and me all like equally.

• 27:34Chris Ryan?

  Does Ben like it?

• 27:36Bill Simmons?

He's probably watched it once. He's like, it's fucking, it's fun.

• 27:40Bill Simmons?

Number thirty eight, Man on Fire.

• 27:42Sean Fennessey?

  Okay, two Denzels.

• 27:44Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 27:44Sean Fennessey?

  Three, three Denzels.

• 27:45Bill Simmons?

  We're up to three already.

• 27:47Sean Fennessey?

  First Tony Scott.

• 27:48Bill Simmons?

This is a weird one, because some people don't like this movie, and I just want to fight them.

• 27:51Chris Ryan?

  Who doesn't like this movie?

• 27:53Bill Simmons?

Just some people are like, eh, too long, Tony Scott, little over the top. Even when we did it, I didn't feel like there was enough excitement that we did it on rewatch.

• 28:02Chris Ryan?

Oh, yeah, because I feel like you were like, we've finally arrived, we're here.

• 28:05Bill Simmons?

Well, I was like, this is might be my favorite Denzel performance. People are like, that's, don't say that, that's crazy. I'm like, I'm gonna say it.

• 28:11Sean Fennessey?

  Is his name John Creasy?

• 28:13Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, he paints his masterpiece.

• 28:15Bill Simmons?

Really great child actress performance by Dakota too.

• 28:19Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 28:19Bill Simmons?

  Awesome.

• 28:20Chris Ryan?

Loops background for Equalizer three, right?

• 28:22Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 28:23Sean Fennessey?

  That's right.

• 28:23Bill Simmons?

And I think this one's aged really nicely, and I just, I love everything about this movie. And you can jump in at any point, and you're good to go.

• 28:30Chris Ryan?

He, Tony Scott, one of like his most stylish, like, flex movies, where he's just like, doing all this stuff where you're like, I don't really even know why you're switching film stocks here, and doing like reversing the film and then going forward, and yeah.

• 28:44Sean Fennessey?

  Last Tony Scott movie?

• 28:48Sean Fennessey?

  On this list?

• 28:48Chris Ryan?

  I bet not.

• 28:50Bill Simmons?

Can't remember. We'll see how it goes. Number thirty seven, Top Gun Maverick.

• 28:56Chris Ryan?

Way lower than, I mean, way, I thought it would be way higher.

• 28:59Bill Simmons?

I don't have enough time with it. I've only had a few runs with it. I don't feel like compared to some of the other older ones on this list, it can, it can hang. But I, but I think for the last, for the, when did it come out, twenty one?

• 29:10Sean Fennessey?

  Twenty two.

• 29:11Chris Ryan?

  Twenty two.

• 29:11Bill Simmons?

I think for this decade, it's, it might be the one I've seen the most.

• 29:15Chris Ryan?

Would you say this is the best hype to release to, like, kind of, this is the best, like, movie experience so far of the decade?

• 29:25Bill Simmons?

Like, from beginning, middle, end of when we heard about it?

• 29:28Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 29:30Bill Simmons?

How getting ready for it to come out, then it came out.

• 29:33Chris Ryan?

Dude's fucking saluting the screen when the credits are rolling.

• 29:35Sean Fennessey?

I think like culturally, more broadly, for sure. I mean, it's, it is the movie that is considered to have brought back movies, and everybody had so much fun with it. And it's also a movie that everybody was like, yeah, I saw it three times. Like, that was normal to go see it three times, because people love the feeling of it. It's also just like, really well made, like, really well. Like, it's, it is a cut above even that, you know, the best of those kinds of movies, and that's one of the reasons why I think it's gonna persist for a while.

• 30:01Chris Ryan?

Speaking of most YouTube scenes, I probably watched the, like, from Jon Hamm, go and send him. To Maverick blowing up like that 10 minute stretch is perfect. It's so good.

• 30:17Bill Simmons?

My favorite rewatchable scene though is obviously the love scene with him and Jennifer Connelly.

• 30:21Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 30:21Bill Simmons?

It's just the height of comedy.

• 30:23Chris Ryan?

  After sailing.

• 30:24Bill Simmons?

Absolute height of the funniest stuff.

• 30:26Sean Fennessey?

No, they were telling really good jokes, but it was all off screen.

• 30:31Bill Simmons?

The funniest minute of Cruz's career.

• 30:33Chris Ryan?

It was just like a Nathan for you episode in the middle of that.

• 30:36Bill Simmons?

See, R and I, we did this for rewatchables during like everyone stay away from each other covid times. He came over and we did it in my little pool house, but we were as far apart as possible. Doing it.

• 30:49Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 30:50Bill Simmons?

That's how important it was to do it.

• 30:51Sean Fennessey?

Did you guys give each other covid?

• 30:53Bill Simmons?

  We might have.

• 30:54Chris Ryan?

I didn't get it until I went to England.

• 30:56Bill Simmons?

  That's 37. Number 36, Lost in Translation.

• 31:00Chris Ryan?

  Hey.

• 31:00Sean Fennessey?

  Also been on the show.

• 31:01Bill Simmons?

Also been on the show. Favorite Bill Murray of the past probably 30 years.

• 31:06Sean Fennessey?

Where are you at on Bill Murray these days? Underrated, overrated, too caught in the slipstream of controversy?

• 31:13Bill Simmons?

  I think he's properly rated.

• 31:14Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 31:16Sean Fennessey?

Did you watch the John Candy documentary?

• 31:18Bill Simmons?

  I did.

• 31:19Sean Fennessey?

Thought that was interesting. I don't, I guess I don't associate Bill Murray with John Candy for some reason, but then.

• 31:23Bill Simmons?

It feels like all those people are kind of overlapping with all of each other in all these different ways.

• 31:28Sean Fennessey?

There are a lot of tons of crossover.

• 31:30Bill Simmons?

Did they ever make a movie together?

• 31:32Sean Fennessey?

They did. What was the movie?

• 31:35Bill Simmons?

Somewhere in the eighties, they made something together.

• 31:37Sean Fennessey?

Gosh, what movie did they make together?

• 31:40Bill Simmons?

For Lost in Translation, really was.

• 31:42Sean Fennessey?

  Stripes. Stripes. Thank you.

• 31:43Bill Simmons?

Oh yeah, that's right. He was ox.

• 31:45Sean Fennessey?

  Yes.

• 31:46Bill Simmons?

  I was just blanking.

• 31:50Bill Simmons?

I like going to another country for a rewatchable. I've never been to Japan. Just fun to go.

• 31:55Chris Ryan?

  You think you'll go?

• 31:57Bill Simmons?

  No.

• 31:59Bill Simmons?

  Scarlett Johansson's great.

• 32:03Bill Simmons?

  She's.

• 32:05Bill Simmons?

I saw this movie. I didn't need to go.

• 32:06Sean Fennessey?

  That's why you're the best.

• 32:07Bill Simmons?

Scarlett Johansson's fantastic. I like the music in this movie. I like the way it moves. I like the ending. It hits all the checkpoints. We're starting to get into some really good ones.

• 32:18Sean Fennessey?

So is there three more Sofias on the list or two more?

• 32:26Sean Fennessey?

  Bling Ring.

• 32:28Bill Simmons?

  Oh, there's zero.

• 32:30Chris Ryan?

What's the one where like, everybody makes love to all the women wanna be with, was it Colin Farrell?

• 32:36Sean Fennessey?

  Oh, The Beguile?

• 32:37Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 32:37Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, The Beguile, no, didn't make the list.

• 32:41Bill Simmons?

Uh, number thirty five, the movie we have not done on the rewatchables. Garden State.

• 32:50Chris Ryan?

Okay, Garden State above some films there.

• 32:54Bill Simmons?

  What do you mean?

• 32:55Chris Ryan?

Well, I was knowing what I know about you, I would think that, say.

• 32:59Bill Simmons?

You thought it would have been higher on the list?

• 33:01Chris Ryan?

I thought it would be like closer to like the forty, like high, like high forties if it would be in here, yeah.

• 33:08Bill Simmons?

  Really like the music.

• 33:09Chris Ryan?

  Mm hmm. Yeah.

• 33:10Bill Simmons?

Um, my wife loves this movie and I always get sucked in when she wants to watch it. Uh, I really like Zach Braff in this movie. It's just a weird, really, I think all of us have a complicated relationship with Zach Braff, but I think he's perfect for this movie.

• 33:24Sean Fennessey?

  It's pretty straightforward.

• 33:25Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 33:25Sean Fennessey?

  He's fine.

• 33:26Bill Simmons?

Yeah, but he's perfect for this movie and I'm not really sure why.

• 33:30Chris Ryan?

I wanna love you, but you make too many T-Mobile commercials.

• 33:34Sean Fennessey?

  I think.

• 33:35Bill Simmons?

The concept of somebody whose life kinda sucks going home and they're kind of a hero, even though they shouldn't be, always works.

• 33:42Chris Ryan?

  Undefeated.

• 33:42Bill Simmons?

The, I think Skarsgård's amazing in this movie with the, as the funeral guy.

• 33:47Chris Ryan?

  Oh, yeah.

• 33:47Bill Simmons?

Um, and I think the music's just great. I, it's honestly one, it's like a little like a lot like love where it's just a fun hang.

• 33:55Sean Fennessey?

I feel like the movie was overrated upon release and is now underrated. It's like gone through the take cycle where people are like, oh, Garden State and they roll their eyes. And now I think that that's unfair too. It's, it's like, it's a very sincere, thoughtful movie that does, it is a little cliche. It is a little like, I'm making my version of The Graduate, but it's enjoyable.

• 34:17Bill Simmons?

Portman's really good. Um, number thirty four, Black Hat.

• 34:22Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 34:24Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 34:25Bill Simmons?

I Can't Apologize, The Heart Wants What The Heart Wants. It was, we did it when we talked about the pod, there's the first five times where trying to figure out what's happening.

• 34:35Bill Simmons?

And then the next five where you know what's happening and it all unlocks and makes sense.

• 34:39Chris Ryan?

They're gonna have a shootout in this like nuclear reactor.

• 34:42Bill Simmons?

Yeah, we get to go to China at one point, um, or wherever. Where's the ending? Somewhere in Asia?

• 34:48Chris Ryan?

Thailand? No, isn't it all in like Singapore or something like?

• 34:51Bill Simmons?

  Singapore, wherever we are.

• 34:53Chris Ryan?

Yeah. Yeah. The nuclear meltdown is in China, is in China.

• 34:58Bill Simmons?

  Mike Mann?

• 34:59Sean Fennessey?

It's an incoherent failure. I don't know what else to say.

• 35:01Chris Ryan?

  It's an awesome movie.

• 35:03Bill Simmons?

See, are we, see, this is.

• 35:06Sean Fennessey?

I've been teasing Chris about this movie, and you for this movie for ten years.

• 35:09Chris Ryan?

  You didn't watch it?

• 35:10Sean Fennessey?

  Properly?

• 35:10Chris Ryan?

Yeah, like the FX version, the director's cut.

• 35:13Sean Fennessey?

With lots of commercials. So I can take a break and read up on what is actually transpiring in the film's plot.

• 35:19Bill Simmons?

I'm not gonna apologize for this one either. Number thirty-three, Proof of Life.

• 35:23Chris Ryan?

  Stuff of Legends.

• 35:25Bill Simmons?

Just watched it three weeks ago, Stuff of Legends. I actually think that this movie, we did it for rewatchables, but I actually think this movie is so much better than people realize it was. And I will, I will die thinking that.

• 35:40Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 35:41Chris Ryan?

We were just talking about Cusack a bunch for High Fidelity, and if you had told, if I had told you in like nineteen ninety-nine that Nick Cage, John Cusack, and Russell Crowe will each be making six direct-to-video movies a year, like, how do you think you would process that?

• 35:58Sean Fennessey?

It would be really hard to accept.

• 35:59Bill Simmons?

Crowe would have been the most shocking of the three.

• 36:00Sean Fennessey?

Crowe would have been stunning. Although Crowe, Crowe kinda having a little moment here. Nuremberg is, uh, doing pretty well.

• 36:06Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 36:07Sean Fennessey?

At the box office, you know? Not, I'm not, you know, not the Nuremberg trials. Those were some, that was eighty years ago, Chris.

• 36:13Chris Ryan?

That did not do well. That was a box office flop.

• 36:15Sean Fennessey?

It was. Uh, I, Proof of Life, I don't even know if I've seen it. Like, I honestly don't even know if I've seen it.

• 36:22Bill Simmons?

  That's, that's where he's just being a dick.

• 36:24Chris Ryan?

It's Tony Gilroy and Taylor Hackford.

• 36:26Sean Fennessey?

  Taylor Hack?

• 36:27Chris Ryan?

  The surest pair of hands.

• 36:28Sean Fennessey?

Honestly, yes. Off the incredible success of The Devil's Advocate, which rules.

• 36:32Chris Ryan?

We're still not entirely sure, but we're pretty certain that Helen Mirren has heard the rewatchables because of the Proof of Life.

• 36:38Sean Fennessey?

  You're pretty sure?

• 36:39Chris Ryan?

Well, we, we know Taylor Hackford has.

• 36:41Sean Fennessey?

  Uh huh.

• 36:42Chris Ryan?

And she might have been in the car while he was lis, he was listening.

• 36:47Bill Simmons?

Caruso with an all time Dionne Waiters? I don't know if it's number one, but it's first ballot.

• 36:53Chris Ryan?

Oh, we could have named it the Caruso.

• 36:56Bill Simmons?

I see. You gotta give this movie a chance. Can this be your Christmas project?

• 37:00Sean Fennessey?

To to watch Proof of Life for the first time?

• 37:02Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 37:03Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. Is there? Is it available on 4K?

• 37:06Chris Ryan?

  Good question.

• 37:07Bill Simmons?

  Oh.

• 37:07Chris Ryan?

  Probably not.

• 37:08Bill Simmons?

  Probably not.

• 37:09Sean Fennessey?

I do have a Taylor Hackford stack at home, you know, Dolores Claiborne.

• 37:13Bill Simmons?

  Oh, wow.

• 37:13Sean Fennessey?

  Officer and a Gentleman.

• 37:14Chris Ryan?

So why are you looking down your nose at Proof of Life then?

• 37:17Sean Fennessey?

I feel like I started watching it on HBO once and I was just like, this sucks and turned it off some 25 years ago.

• 37:22Bill Simmons?

It's really great. It moves a bunch of good times. There there's watching it, knowing that they cut the Crow Meg Ryan love scene makes the movie make so much more sense than it probably did in the theater where it's like, what happened? Did I miss the scene? Was that in the bathroom?

• 37:36Sean Fennessey?

How much like on a scale of 0% to 100%, how much? What percentage is this movie on the list just because you love doing the Caruso lines?

• 37:46Bill Simmons?

Oh, no, I I think Russell Crowe is like, I think he's genuinely great in this movie.

• 37:50Chris Ryan?

It's also just like an awesome like hypothetical, like if you you were kidnapped, would your wife fall in love with your hostage negotiator?

• 37:58Bill Simmons?

  And and also.

• 38:01Sean Fennessey?

  Is that what it's about?

• 38:03Bill Simmons?

Well, also Phoebe, Phoebe negotiating for CR and they're like, they want 700 and and Meg Ryan's like.

• 38:10Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 38:10Bill Simmons?

I don't know. I can get to six. Like you just start putting your life in context of what your spouse.

• 38:15Chris Ryan?

Looking insane and like Chris Bryony from The Summer I Turned Pretty is trying to negotiate for my release.

• 38:21Bill Simmons?

This movie is awesome and it's got a great ending. It ends with an awesome Van Morrison song. Everything about it is great.

• 38:27Sean Fennessey?

I'm gonna, I'm gonna watch it on Christmas morning with my daughter.

• 38:31Bill Simmons?

This movie is a tour de force kidnapping. Uh, number 32.

• 38:37Bill Simmons?

  A Star is Born.

• 38:38Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 38:38Bill Simmons?

  The Bradley Cooper edition.

• 38:40Chris Ryan?

  Wow.

• 38:40Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 38:41Sean Fennessey?

  A little louder.

• 38:41Bill Simmons?

Big, big fan, uh, all the way through the Simmons house, except for my son.

• 38:46Sean Fennessey?

Quality flick. Big fan of this movie.

• 38:48Bill Simmons?

  First hour is just great.

• 38:49Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 38:50Bill Simmons?

Second hour, you know, it gets a little sad. But I also think the, the, him pissing on himself at the Oscars or Grammys is now hilarious. Not hilarious in the theater, but now like really funny.

• 39:01Sean Fennessey?

  Like, isn't it the VMAs?

• 39:02Chris Ryan?

No, it's like the American Musical Awards or something, yeah.

• 39:05Bill Simmons?

  Just some elite Sam Elliott.

• 39:07Chris Ryan?

Yeah, he's, he's bringing a similar vibe to Landman this season.

• 39:10Bill Simmons?

Really good, couple, like five really good songs. And then the ending song, Lady Gaga, probably the best, best work of anything she's ever done.

• 39:19Sean Fennessey?

  She's incredible in the movie.

• 39:21Bill Simmons?

Really well done. He's a good director.

• 39:22Sean Fennessey?

The scene when they're talking in the bar in the first 30 minutes, I was, does chills. You know, when the Allman Brothers song comes on, I love that shit. That's great. Cooper, I don't know what the hell is going on, man.

• 39:33Chris Ryan?

Did you, uh, think that the scene in the last Landman where Sam Elliott eats a corn dog for like two minutes was a little bit strange?

• 39:40Bill Simmons?

  I did.

• 39:43Sean Fennessey?

How's it go, how's Landman going?

• 39:45Chris Ryan?

There's nothing like it. There's just nothing like it.

• 39:46Bill Simmons?

  I didn't love episode four.

• 39:48Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 39:48Bill Simmons?

  It was a transition episode.

• 39:49Chris Ryan?

  Because it was too dark.

• 39:51Bill Simmons?

  Too sad.

• 39:52Sean Fennessey?

  Hmm.

• 39:52Bill Simmons?

Just give me, every 30 minutes, there needs to be some sort of oil well blows up or something happens, somebody's in danger.

• 39:59Chris Ryan?

This is more about loss, generational trauma.

• 40:02Sean Fennessey?

  I see.

• 40:02Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 40:03Sean Fennessey?

  That's too bad.

• 40:03Bill Simmons?

Number 31, I think it's gonna surprise both of you. I've not done it on the rewatchables. Chris is having a great time. I can tell from his body language.

• 40:12Chris Ryan?

I feel like I'm learning a lot about him.

• 40:13Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah. Can I guess?

• 40:15Bill Simmons?

  No, you won't guess it.

• 40:16Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 40:16Bill Simmons?

  Funny people.

• 40:18Chris Ryan?

  Oh, yeah.

• 40:18Sean Fennessey?

We just talked about this, cause Jay Kelly and how it's underrated.

• 40:23Bill Simmons?

It's really underrated. I think the first 70 minutes of this movie is probably my favorite appetizer movie.

• 40:30Sean Fennessey?

  Mm-hmm.

• 40:31Bill Simmons?

It falls apart in the second half.

• 40:33Sean Fennessey?

  But it's kind of entertaining.

• 40:34Bill Simmons?

But now, after rewatching a bunch of times, I'm okay with the second half. I've gotten to the right place.

• 40:40Sean Fennessey?

  The Lesley Man stuff.

• 40:41Chris Ryan?

But isn't there also like a version of this movie that was like four hours long or something? Wasn't this?

• 40:45Sean Fennessey?

That sounds right. I don't know. I'm sure, I mean, there's always a longer cut with an appetizer movie, right?

• 40:49Bill Simmons?

His kids are in it and now Maude's famous. Like that part's kind of fun from a rewatchable standpoint, but I think.

• 40:54Sean Fennessey?

  Directed her first movie.

• 40:55Bill Simmons?

The first hour of this movie is lights out. And when he finds out that he doesn't have cancer and they have the party for him. That is one of like the funniest six minute scenes ever. And it ends with Eminem gets mad at Ray Romano.

• 41:11Sean Fennessey?

  Yes.

• 41:11Bill Simmons?

And then somebody says to him, I thought everybody loved Raymond. And it's just like scene. It's just like perfect.

• 41:18Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 41:19Bill Simmons?

  I love this movie.

• 41:19Chris Ryan?

You were not a J. Kelly guy.

• 41:23Bill Simmons?

  Didn't like it.

• 41:25Sean Fennessey?

  Did you see it?

• 41:26Chris Ryan?

I did, and I was like, I have too vanilla of an opinion about this, which was like, it didn't upset me, but I didn't love it.

• 41:33Sean Fennessey?

  Okay, I think that's okay.

• 41:34Bill Simmons?

You liked it more than both of us.

• 41:35Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, but didn't love it. I liked it.

• 41:38Chris Ryan?

I think I actually weirdly liked it way more, the opening like 40 minutes before he goes to Europe.

• 41:44Bill Simmons?

I thought you'd be more surprised by funny people. I really thought that was gonna get a huge reaction.

• 41:48Chris Ryan?

  This seems like.

• 41:49Sean Fennessey?

Well, for one, you know, Sandman, I'm just, that's, that's.

• 41:52Bill Simmons?

That's the biggest thing. I think this is the best acting he's done in a movie in this.

• 41:56Chris Ryan?

  Oh.

• 41:56Sean Fennessey?

And him and Rogan are so good together.

• 41:58Chris Ryan?

I'm gonna make a prediction, more Sandman than Denzel on this list.

• 42:02Sean Fennessey?

So we got two Sandmans and three Denzels thus far.

• 42:08Bill Simmons?

I love when they go, when they go to the brain doctor guy, and he talks like the diehard villain, and they're just like busting his balls. This movie is so good.

• 42:15Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 42:17Bill Simmons?

I still don't know why they decided to do the last 35 minutes the way they did it. It's very strange. But I think the more I've watched it, I think the Leslie Mann character is a parody of just like a vacant actress. Where she's like, I love this guy, and then she just changes her mind and wants to get back with her husband. I think he's, at that's trying to say something about actresses, like maybe, maybe don't stay away from them, even though he's married to one.

• 42:41Sean Fennessey?

  He's married to one, yeah.

• 42:42Bill Simmons?

Heads into a whole other interesting.

• 42:44Sean Fennessey?

It is, it does feel like a kind of an honest portrayal of a Los Angeles lifestyle person that like we all know, being out here. But I don't know if it's the most relatable aspect of a movie that is also otherwise about a very kind of like elevated class of people, that like super successful standup comic.

• 43:01Bill Simmons?

There's also some really funny stuff about his career, like the movies that he made, like his hit movies where he's like, it's just his head on a baby and he's like yelling at somebody. Baby boss, or whatever they call that.

• 43:14Chris Ryan?

I haven't seen this movie in a while. I do remember.

• 43:17Bill Simmons?

Movie's really good. Number 30, Get Out. Hmm.

• 43:21Chris Ryan?

  Uh huh.

• 43:21Bill Simmons?

It's interesting. I did not have a lot of horror slash whatever. And I realized that I don't really re-watch horror movies in the same way, even though like I love The Conjuring, Conjuring two, like it follows. But it's something about horror movies where you're not.

• 43:35Chris Ryan?

It's more of like a first time through thing. I mean.

• 43:38Bill Simmons?

Yeah, or like, like maybe like three times.

• 43:40Chris Ryan?

  Hmm.

• 43:41Sean Fennessey?

How much of that is because the fam doesn't want to re-watch a horror movie they've seen before?

• 43:45Bill Simmons?

It's a thing. It's like a mood. Whereas like the seventies, eighty ones are a little safer, like Amityville or Halloween, obviously, but The Omen. Like those are ones I feel like I watch way more than the newer ones. The newer ones are almost like the pot in California where it's like too strong.

• 44:00Chris Ryan?

  Hmm.

• 44:00Bill Simmons?

  Like it.

• 44:00Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 44:01Bill Simmons?

They're, they're not like the same kind of fun.

• 44:03Sean Fennessey?

Right. Hereditary is not like. Let's hang out and watch Hereditary and eat some candy. It's not really.

• 44:07Chris Ryan?

Although we did a good job making Hereditary pretty funny on the re-watch list.

• 44:10Sean Fennessey?

I mean, that's my whole take is that it is hilarious, but you know, the vibe is not hilarious.

• 44:14Bill Simmons?

That would have been for my wife and son together. Hereditary would have been top ten.

• 44:17Chris Ryan?

I don't necessarily think either of these movies are better than Get Out. In fact, I don't think I do. But I find Nope and Us more rewarding to re-watch just because I noticed other shit.

• 44:28Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. I think they're bigger and deeper. They're not as like thrilling as the first time watching Get Out, where you were like, whoa, I'm at, I'm at like the best concert of all time.

• 44:36Bill Simmons?

Get Out. Really solid fun hang.

• 44:38Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 44:39Sean Fennessey?

  Great movie.

• 44:39Bill Simmons?

Just great. Really saying some stuff. Incredibly well done.

• 44:43Sean Fennessey?

  Alison Williams.

• 44:44Bill Simmons?

Thoroughly enjoyable. I like all the actors. The fucking Catherine Keating with her tea.

• 44:49Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 44:50Bill Simmons?

  Number twenty-nine, Hardball.

• 44:52Chris Ryan?

  Hmm. Keanu.

• 44:56Bill Simmons?

  I, I can't explain it. I don't know what to tell you.

• 44:58Chris Ryan?

  Sprinkle some sports movies.

• 44:59Bill Simmons?

We did it. We already did this.

• 45:00Sean Fennessey?

Was it Shay? You and Shay who did it?

• 45:02Bill Simmons?

  I did it with Van.

• 45:03Sean Fennessey?

  Oh, with Van. Okay.

• 45:05Bill Simmons?

G Baby dying is one of the seminal events of the twenty-first century.

• 45:08Chris Ryan?

  Mm-hmm.

• 45:09Bill Simmons?

Um, I love Keanu, like gambling and drinking and kind of dying lane falls for him anyway. There's some funny unintentional comedy stuff.

• 45:18Sean Fennessey?

  I forgot.

• 45:18Bill Simmons?

The baseball stuff works. The sports stuff works. Uh.

• 45:22Chris Ryan?

  Do you think between.

• 45:22Bill Simmons?

  And it's aged really well.

• 45:23Chris Ryan?

This replacements and Point Break, he has like a secret candidacy for one of the great sports movie actors?

• 45:29Bill Simmons?

  No question.

• 45:30Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 45:31Bill Simmons?

I was watching, uh, Any Given Sunday the other day, which is on Pluto right now.

• 45:38Bill Simmons?

I think that movie's, this doesn't count for 21st century. I was thinking though for next year.

• 45:43Chris Ryan?

I love it when he, he's just like, it was on.

• 45:45Bill Simmons?

Are you in on any given Sunday?

• 45:46Sean Fennessey?

One of my faves, yeah. I love it.

• 45:48Bill Simmons?

Well, I think we need to redo it because we did it like first 10 movies, no video.

• 45:53Sean Fennessey?

It's one of, it's the Babylon of sports movies where he's just like, I'm just putting it all in the movie. I'm just doing everything I can.

• 45:58Bill Simmons?

You know what I noticed? Like, as the years pass with quick cuts and low, it's actually works better for attention spans now.

• 46:06Chris Ryan?

  Oh, sure.

• 46:06Bill Simmons?

All of a sudden, we're back in the 50s and there's gladiators, then Jamie Foxx is back again.

• 46:10Sean Fennessey?

But so much of the stuff that seemed irresponsible at the time just basically came true.

• 46:14Chris Ryan?

Oh, like the James, the James Woods stuff?

• 46:16Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 46:16Bill Simmons?

Yeah, that movie's, we're doing that one again. Uh, but anyway, yeah, I was thinking like the rewatchable sports movies. The 90s ones are better than the 2000s. 2000s, we kind of moved into a different era. There's a bunch of ones I like. There's a couple more on the list. But, uh, I almost put the way back on this list, but I haven't been with it enough yet.

• 46:35Chris Ryan?

We never wound up doing that, though.

• 46:36Bill Simmons?

  We're going to.

• 46:37Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 46:38Sean Fennessey?

  That was 2020.

• 46:39Bill Simmons?

Speaking of sports, number 28, Moneyball.

• 46:42Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah. No brainer.

• 46:44Bill Simmons?

  I mean.

• 46:45Sean Fennessey?

We did it, we did a live screening of this as part of the thing that we did.

• 46:48Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 46:48Sean Fennessey?

In Chicago and we didn't tell people beforehand what the movie was gonna be. And when the music comes up and the sequence where they show the A's playing at the beginning of the, against the Yankees in the first scene of the movie. It was like 750 people like basically burst out like screaming. They were so excited that it was Moneyball. Like I feel like this movie has a really much bigger cultural footprint now than it did.

• 47:11Chris Ryan?

It's also like, I feel like it's like the Ferris Bueller of movies where it's like everybody like the hardest hardcore like art house guy to like the most like, I just watch whatever is like on Netflix is.

• 47:24Sean Fennessey?

Wide swath of taste, yeah, totally.

• 47:26Bill Simmons?

We did it, I think it was like one of the first ones we did.

• 47:29Chris Ryan?

  Yep.

• 47:29Bill Simmons?

Right? And then we, did we redo it?

• 47:32Chris Ryan?

  I don't know if we've ever redone it. I.

• 47:35Bill Simmons?

Some great pit, probably the best pit ever.

• 47:37Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 47:37Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, it's definitely up there. He's phenomenal.

• 47:41Bill Simmons?

And fun from a standpoint of, I can't believe it worked.

• 47:45Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, especially.

• 47:46Bill Simmons?

Especially when you knew about the script forever.

• 47:47Chris Ryan?

  Stuff, yeah.

• 47:48Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 47:48Sean Fennessey?

  It's a crazy accomplishment to.

• 47:49Bill Simmons?

Really good rewatch. I think Pitt's the. Pitt's the re- Pitt's the number one reason it's such a good rewatch show. He's just so good in that movie. Uh, 27 Dark Knight.

• 47:59Sean Fennessey?

Hmm. Throwing a, throwing a bone.

• 48:02Chris Ryan?

Now you had, we did Dark Knight.

• 48:04Bill Simmons?

  I wasn't on it.

• 48:05Chris Ryan?

I would be, honestly, it would be almost as important to me as Sicario is to do Dark Knight.

• 48:11Bill Simmons?

  To redo it?

• 48:11Chris Ryan?

  With you.

• 48:12Sean Fennessey?

  One on, one on one.

• 48:13Chris Ryan?

No, I just wanna see him, like, same with Star Wars. I would love to hear Bill talk about Gotham.

• 48:21Sean Fennessey?

  It's a, it's a, it's a great, great movie.

• 48:23Bill Simmons?

You know what else is great about it? The, uh, 4K Blu-ray era.

• 48:26Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 48:28Bill Simmons?

I would say it's in the top 10.

• 48:29Sean Fennessey?

All the Nolan movies look really great at home.

• 48:32Bill Simmons?

That movie is awesome with like a nice TV and, and a nice little, what do they call them? What do they, what do the kids call it, Sean? The, when you transition it, the video feed, what it, what's it called?

• 48:45Sean Fennessey?

  No idea what you're saying.

• 48:46Chris Ryan?

I don't know what you're talking about either.

• 48:48Bill Simmons?

When they talk about like, oh, transfer.

• 48:49Chris Ryan?

  A transfer.

• 48:49Sean Fennessey?

  Oh, the transfer, yes.

• 48:50Chris Ryan?

  The 4K transfer.

• 48:51Bill Simmons?

  It's blanking.

• 48:52Sean Fennessey?

Um, I've said it many times, but when the truck flips near the end of the movie, just right over itself, I like, started crying. I was like, this is exactly how I wanna feel while I'm watching a movie. This is the most excited and electrified I've been by a movie.

• 49:06Chris Ryan?

Are you, uh, have you seen Dark Knight Rises?

• 49:09Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, I like it.

• 49:10Chris Ryan?

Are you more into Bane or Joker?

• 49:12Bill Simmons?

  Bane.

• 49:12Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, me too.

• 49:13Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, that checks out.

• 49:16Chris Ryan?

  Joker?

• 49:17Sean Fennessey?

  Joker, obviously.

• 49:18Chris Ryan?

This is what the spice of this pot is.

• 49:21Chris Ryan?

Two Bane guys and a Joker.

• 49:25Sean Fennessey?

You're more of a Ra's al Ghul guy to me.

• 49:27Chris Ryan?

No, I, Bane is really important to me.

• 49:29Sean Fennessey?

  He is, okay.

• 49:30Chris Ryan?

Bane, I think Bane actually also secretly would win an election against Joker. Like, I think Bane has a bigger mind share than Joker now.

• 49:37Sean Fennessey?

Where are the, in, on what platform are they running?

• 49:40Bill Simmons?

That might be the 28 ballots.

• 49:42Sean Fennessey?

This is like a Green Party situation, or where are they running?

• 49:46Chris Ryan?

Would you prefer, like, voting in an election between Bane and Joker, or like Trump and AOC? Like, what would your preferred outcome be?

• 49:56Bill Simmons?

I need more time to think about it.

• 49:57Chris Ryan?

  Trump 3 versus AOC.

• 49:59Bill Simmons?

This one has a good rewatchables piece of, nobody's home, I'm just gonna crank this.

• 50:04Sean Fennessey?

  Hmm.

• 50:04Bill Simmons?

Like, there's a couple scenes in it where it's like, yeah, fuck it.

• 50:07Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. That's what Ciara thinks when nobody's home too, I'm just gonna crank it.

• 50:10Bill Simmons?

  He's cranking, the crank daddy.

• 50:14Bill Simmons?

  Number 26, Ocean's Eleven.

• 50:16Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 50:16Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 50:17Chris Ryan?

  Just a wonderful hang.

• 50:18Sean Fennessey?

It is. It is. It's a great time. It's a great movie. We didn't put it on our list and I, you know, I'm, I'm.

• 50:25Chris Ryan?

But there was speculation that this was gonna be like a top three for you guys.

• 50:28Sean Fennessey?

I know, because Amanda and I both love it. And I don't know, we overlooked it.

• 50:32Chris Ryan?

  Really?

• 50:33Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. It's great. If it was a 50 movie listed, for sure it wouldn't have been on it.

• 50:37Bill Simmons?

Sometimes it's just good to put a bunch of movie stars in a movie. Let them all hang out, do movie star things together.

• 50:42Chris Ryan?

This is also like right when like all of these guys are still in some sort of peak at the same time. And, you know.

• 50:51Bill Simmons?

All right, one more break and then we'll do the top 25. This episode is brought to you by Viori. All right, let's talk about a category we appreciate. Clothes that stay in the rotation. • 52:05Sean Fennessey?

  Nice.

• 52:06Bill Simmons?

Yeah, he did this twice, including in front of a live audience.

• 52:09Chris Ryan?

  In Philly.

• 52:10Sean Fennessey?

So the list is like halfway through and you've got 12 like classics, right? You've got your, you know, Knocked Up.

• 52:20Chris Ryan?

  Get Out.

• 52:20Sean Fennessey?

Dark Knight, Get Out, Ocean's Eleven, and then you've got. You know, a lot like Love.

• 52:27Bill Simmons?

And Proof of Life and Weird Ones.

• 52:29Sean Fennessey?

Creed, obviously a classic, right? Total modern classic.

• 52:32Bill Simmons?

Perfect sports movie where you can, oh, this is on? Oh, he's.

• 52:37Chris Ryan?

Is he running with the ATVs yet?

• 52:38Bill Simmons?

We're almost near the ATVs. Great.

• 52:41Sean Fennessey?

Yes, we just published a big oral history of the movie on The Ringer that Alan Segal did, which was cool. Like, are the next 24, is it like still 50/50? Or do you feel like when you were doing the list, were you like, I, I don't want to have too many obvious, like, these are the classics?

• 52:57Bill Simmons?

It was funny, right as we head to this number 24 spot, the list became way easier.

• 53:04Chris Ryan?

  Really?

• 53:05Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 53:05Chris Ryan?

Because that's why I was asking about metrics. There was like the, there is like the, this is like my favorite movie from this period.

• 53:12Bill Simmons?

These are favorites combined with easy to rewatch.

• 53:14Chris Ryan?

  Okay. Creed.

• 53:15Bill Simmons?

Which brings us to number 24, Fast and Furious 7.

• 53:20Chris Ryan?

  Which one is this?

• 53:22Bill Simmons?

This is the one where Paul Walker dies in real life. And they have the CGI, some of his scenes, but it ends with the, "It's been a long day."

• 53:34Sean Fennessey?

  Long day.

• 53:35Bill Simmons?

I forget the, what are the lyrics to that song?

• 53:37Sean Fennessey?

No, you got it. That's perfect. Keep going.

• 53:40Chris Ryan?

  I'll see you again, right?

• 53:41Bill Simmons?

  Without you, my friend.

• 53:42Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 53:44Bill Simmons?

The greatest ending of any movie in the 21st century.

• 53:48Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, definitely.

• 53:51Chris Ryan?

What actually happens in this movie is this, this isn't like.

• 53:54Bill Simmons?

  Oh, Fast 7 is amazing.

• 53:55Chris Ryan?

Is this the one that where they drive through?

• 53:57Bill Simmons?

  It ends up in LA.

• 53:58Chris Ryan?

  Skyscraper? Oh, okay.

• 53:59Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 53:59Chris Ryan?

It's in LA. I haven't seen a lot of these movies.

• 54:01Sean Fennessey?

You're thinking of Fast 5, which is in Rio.

• 54:03Chris Ryan?

  Okay. Which, is there one?

• 54:05Bill Simmons?

This is really the concept of familia.

• 54:08Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 54:08Bill Simmons?

Really kind of came together in the right ways.

• 54:10Chris Ryan?

  Yeah, it's your management style.

• 54:12Bill Simmons?

I still think the last 10, last 10 minutes of this, with Paul Walker and they, they drive in the separate, it's just like, they couldn't have executed it better. The fucking, one of the two stars of the movie died. And they still figured out how to make it an awesome movie, and it's really good, and it's, I think, my second favorite Fast and Furious.

• 54:29Sean Fennessey?

Did you do this on the show?

• 54:31Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 54:31Sean Fennessey?

How many Fast movies have you done?

• 54:35Bill Simmons?

  Three or four.

• 54:36Chris Ryan?

But is it kind of like all over the place? You're not going, you have, did you do the first Fast?

• 54:42Bill Simmons?

  Yes.

• 54:42Chris Ryan?

  Did you do Tokyo Drift?

• 54:44Bill Simmons?

  Did not.

• 54:45Sean Fennessey?

  You did five, seven.

• 54:48Bill Simmons?

One, we might have also done four. Think we might have done four.

• 54:53Sean Fennessey?

  What's four called?

• 54:54Bill Simmons?

You know what, the other day I woke up in the middle of the night because I had a cough. Fast Four was on. It's called Fast and Furious. First one's called The Fast and the Furious. Four is Fast and Furious.

• 55:05Sean Fennessey?

  Got it. Ingenious.

• 55:06Bill Simmons?

Watched the second half of Four. Incredible. Our guy John Ortiz is in it.

• 55:09Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 55:10Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 55:12Sean Fennessey?

Sat next to John Ortiz at the Weapons premiere earlier this year.

• 55:15Chris Ryan?

  Fist bump?

• 55:16Sean Fennessey?

He didn't know who I was. We didn't speak.

• 55:19Bill Simmons?

You guys don't like Fast Seven as much because you don't have as big of a heart as I do.

• 55:23Sean Fennessey?

Chris and I don't get these movies.

• 55:28Bill Simmons?

  That's fine.

• 55:28Chris Ryan?

Yeah. I find it very hard to watch Vin Diesel. In, on screen.

• 55:33Sean Fennessey?

What about in Saving Private Ryan?

• 55:35Chris Ryan?

He's fine in that, but that was like pre his self-awareness of like what he was doing.

• 55:39Sean Fennessey?

  Boiler Room?

• 55:40Chris Ryan?

  Boiler Room is great.

• 55:41Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 55:41Chris Ryan?

But once he hits these movies, I just feel like.

• 55:43Bill Simmons?

His comments are hurtful and I'm gonna move on.

• 55:45Sean Fennessey?

The closest I've ever come to drinking bleach live on a pod is during the Fast X episode that we did about five years ago. That was, that was, that's the lowest.

• 55:53Chris Ryan?

What was the, what was your, remember we went?

• 55:55Bill Simmons?

  Fast, Fast Ten?

• 55:56Sean Fennessey?

  Yes.

• 55:57Chris Ryan?

  Dinner for your birthday?

• 55:58Bill Simmons?

I can't defend the last two.

• 56:00Chris Ryan?

And then you had to leave playing golf because you had to go see, like was it Hobbs and Shaw?

• 56:04Sean Fennessey?

  Shaw, yeah.

• 56:04Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 56:05Bill Simmons?

  Can't defend that one either.

• 56:06Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, it was tough.

• 56:07Bill Simmons?

  Number twenty-three, John Wick Two.

• 56:09Chris Ryan?

  Fuck yeah.

• 56:10Sean Fennessey?

  Hell yeah. Yeah. Great movie.

• 56:12Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 56:13Bill Simmons?

It's, I, I gotta be honest. I was stunned it couldn't crack the top twenty. I kept, I kept looking at the list trying to figure out how to move it up, but I didn't have a spot.

• 56:19Sean Fennessey?

Is this the last John Wick movie?

• 56:21Chris Ryan?

  That's the thing.

• 56:22Bill Simmons?

  Which one?

• 56:23Sean Fennessey?

Is this the last John Wick movie?

• 56:24Bill Simmons?

  This is our last.

• 56:25Chris Ryan?

So John Wick One is not in this list.

• 56:27Bill Simmons?

  Didn't make it.

• 56:27Chris Ryan?

  Interesting.

• 56:28Bill Simmons?

  Didn't make it.

• 56:29Sean Fennessey?

John Wick Two is common in the subway?

• 56:31Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 56:31Bill Simmons?

  Oh, yeah.

• 56:32Sean Fennessey?

  That's the best, yeah.

• 56:32Chris Ryan?

Wick Two is kind of like.

• 56:34Bill Simmons?

  Wick Two is incredible.

• 56:36Chris Ryan?

I did, and it's also great because it just starts and it's like going. Uh, you did not like the last one, right, as much?

• 56:44Bill Simmons?

Last one's too long. A- as you know, like, come on.

• 56:47Chris Ryan?

Has some of the greatest set pieces I've ever seen.

• 56:49Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 56:50Sean Fennessey?

I thought Three was too long and Four is a borderline masterpiece. I loved Four.

• 56:54Chris Ryan?

Yeah. I didn't like Three as much. Four I thought was incredible.

• 56:58Sean Fennessey?

  Two is great.

• 56:59Chris Ryan?

  Two is great.

• 57:00Bill Simmons?

Two is just a home run.

• 57:01Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 57:01Bill Simmons?

It's everything I want from a rewatchable movie.

• 57:04Sean Fennessey?

Wow. Keanu doing pretty well on this list so far.

• 57:06Bill Simmons?

  Number twenty-two, Gone Girl.

• 57:08Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. Also now a little underrated. A little lost to time.

• 57:12Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 57:13Sean Fennessey?

  Huge hit.

• 57:14Bill Simmons?

I keep getting sucked in. I mean, but most people under twenty-five probably don't even have cable anymore. We still have cable. I still go through the guide and Gone Girl. It's like any point in this movie, it's a home run. And the movie shifts where all of a sudden you find out it's her and then we have that second. And then I think the last twenty minutes is really good when she comes back. Our girl Carrie Coon.

• 57:39Chris Ryan?

  Awesome in this.

• 57:39Sean Fennessey?

  Her first movie role.

• 57:42Bill Simmons?

  Um.

• 57:42Chris Ryan?

  And Lola Kirk.

• 57:43Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 57:44Bill Simmons?

I'll say another thing. I think Affleck's incredible in this movie.

• 57:48Chris Ryan?

It's one of his best performances.

• 57:49Sean Fennessey?

  Arguably his best performance.

• 57:50Bill Simmons?

Perfect, perfect, perfect person. He's just enough of a scumbag that.

• 57:56Sean Fennessey?

  Such a self-aware thing.

• 57:57Bill Simmons?

  We did this on rewatching.

• 57:57Sean Fennessey?

Riffing on like his own persona and everything. It's a genius movie.

• 58:01Chris Ryan?

Making him wear a Yankees hat.

• 58:02Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, Fincher making him wear the Yankees hat. It's very funny. He didn't like that part.

• 58:07Bill Simmons?

  Number twenty-one, forgetting Sarah Marshall.

• 58:09Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 58:10Sean Fennessey?

  Craig Horlbeck's favorite movie.

• 58:12Bill Simmons?

I think this has aged wonderfully. Mila Kunis is a fifteen out of ten on the cute scale. The, uh, the Russell Brand being next door just banging away at Kristen Bell as he has to listen is hilarious.

• 58:24Chris Ryan?

Another, uh, going on a trip movie for you?

• 58:27Bill Simmons?

You get to go away. This was big during COVID. Watched this movie a few times.

• 58:30Chris Ryan?

  Two Hawaii movies for you.

• 58:31Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 58:32Bill Simmons?

Yeah. Really, I like where they stay. I like the, the whole, everything about it. And then, uh, the Dracula thing's fucking funny. It's still really good.

• 58:40Sean Fennessey?

It's ingenious. It's a, it's the perfect Judd, why Judd Apatow is a genius thing where for years Siegel's trying to get the Dracula musical off the ground for real with puppets.

• 58:48Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 58:49Sean Fennessey?

And he's like, dude, we're not doing this, but you should make this a part of this other movie that we're doing.

• 58:53Bill Simmons?

And it's one of those where you. It's kind of like, I'm not sure why Seagull, more good stuff didn't happen for him. Maybe the sitcom, he just made a lot of money and.

• 59:03Sean Fennessey?

I think How I Met Your Mother and Shrinking were both, are both big.

• 59:06Chris Ryan?

  Shrinking is huge for him.

• 59:08Bill Simmons?

I'm just thinking, I don't know why this was the only big movie he made.

• 59:10Sean Fennessey?

He could have been, I, I was, at the time, I was like, oh, he's like Albert Brooks. Like, this is gonna be like, he's gonna make all these movies that are from his point of view and about modern relationships and life in America, and he didn't really pursue that as much.

• 59:24Bill Simmons?

He was in Five Year Engagement.

• 59:26Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 59:27Bill Simmons?

Which I think is now the most underrated rom-com of the last 15 years.

• 59:30Chris Ryan?

  Really, really good.

• 59:31Sean Fennessey?

The first screening of that movie just ended because it's the longest movie ever made. It's like, it's like five hours long.

• 59:38Chris Ryan?

It is, it is two and a half hours, right?

• 59:40Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 59:41Bill Simmons?

It's on the rewatchables list. I think it's good. I also like I Love You Man, he was good in that. Was he in that one?

• 59:47Chris Ryan?

He's in I Love You Man, uh, he's Rudd's, the guy Rudd.

• 59:51Bill Simmons?

But this, for some reason, this became the movie that became his movie legacy. And I think he had a really nice run there, but it's like, he's like one movie short.

• 59:58Chris Ryan?

Oh yeah, I Love You Man is slapping the bass, right?

• 1:00:01Sean Fennessey?

  Incredible stuff.

• 1:00:02Chris Ryan?

  Rudd?

• 1:00:02Sean Fennessey?

Well, I Love You Man hasn't been on the show, right?

• 1:00:04Chris Ryan?

  No.

• 1:00:05Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:05Chris Ryan?

Has Role Models been on the show?

• 1:00:08Bill Simmons?

Yeah, there's some good comedies that we still have.

• 1:00:10Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:10Bill Simmons?

And comedies that I've been sitting with, like, I didn't even really like Five Year Engagement until a couple of years ago. And I was like, oh, this is a good movie. And it's like, oh, I like this movie.

• 1:00:18Sean Fennessey?

Is it Pratt and is it Isla Fisher? Who's the other, the lover, the sister? They're both really funny in it, yeah.

• 1:00:25Bill Simmons?

We're now in the top 20.

• 1:00:29Bill Simmons?

It's hard to believe John Wick 2 didn't crack the top 20, but then you look at the top 20 and you get number 20, Den of Thieves.

• 1:00:36Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 1:00:41Bill Simmons?

  We've done it twice.

• 1:00:42Chris Ryan?

Did Pantera, did Pantera, like, reduce Den of Thieves for you at all? Did it, did it take it down a notch?

• 1:00:48Bill Simmons?

It's fine. I've learned not to get, been out of shape with sequels.

• 1:00:54Chris Ryan?

It was just Pablo Schreiber and 50 Cent having an enormous amount to do with why Den of Thieves.

• 1:01:00Bill Simmons?

That's the thing. I think it's basically the, in the Tokyo Drift area of, we got away from what made the franchise work. But Pablo Schreiber's can't come back unless he has an evil brother.

• 1:01:12Sean Fennessey?

If Big Nick was added to the Eagles coaching staff this weekend, would you feel better?

• 1:01:15Chris Ryan?

Big Nick and Big Dom overseeing vibes, yeah.

• 1:01:19Sean Fennessey?

  Might help.

• 1:01:20Bill Simmons?

See this? This is a bad. I think this is the best pure action movie rewatchables that anybody has made in the last 10 years. Just from a jump into it. It's narrowly edging John Wick 2. There's another movie that I don't feel like is in the same thing where I'm just talking like lots of characters, I'm in a world, they're trying to take something.

• 1:01:43Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I would take the Mission Impossible movies probably over this, but I hear what you're saying.

• 1:01:47Bill Simmons?

You know, we'll talk about that when we're done.

• 1:01:51Bill Simmons?

Number 19, No Country For Old Men.

• 1:01:54Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:55Sean Fennessey?

I feel like you've really come around to this one.

• 1:01:56Bill Simmons?

I really, I really did over the last 10 years. Maybe as I got older and I started to see from the time of the Jones side.

• 1:02:00Chris Ryan?

Did you not like it when you first saw it?

• 1:02:02Bill Simmons?

I did. I didn't like the ending. And now I really like the ending.

• 1:02:07Chris Ryan?

  The ending's profound.

• 1:02:08Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 1:02:12Bill Simmons?

It's just, I mean, we've already done it, but it's almost 20 years old at this point. Did you, did it make your list?

• 1:02:20Sean Fennessey?

We did Inside Lewin Davis, which was like a negotiation between Amanda and I. That was the whole thing with our list is every movie is a negotiation between Amanda and I.

• 1:02:27Chris Ryan?

Oh Ben, it's only one director.

• 1:02:29Sean Fennessey?

We did only one movie per director.

• 1:02:31Chris Ryan?

Is this your favorite Coen Brothers movie?

• 1:02:33Bill Simmons?

  Yes. Yes.

• 1:02:35Chris Ryan?

This movie, if you put it on right now, it looks like, it does not feel, it's like it's aged a second. It's like a, like a beautiful, timeless.

• 1:02:43Bill Simmons?

We always say this, but it's another movie that's aged really well with the TVs.

• 1:02:46Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:47Bill Simmons?

Going the widescreen with the HD.

• 1:02:49Chris Ryan?

  The Criterion.

• 1:02:50Bill Simmons?

Even that beginning when he's, you know, he's out basically in the desert or where the fuck he is, that wide shot of, you know, it's just everything about it.

• 1:02:58Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:58Bill Simmons?

  He's like, what's that?

• 1:02:59Sean Fennessey?

It's in that like class of like Casablanca and Singing in the Rain where it's just like, it's just an American classic, you know, and it's always going to be an American classic.

• 1:03:08Bill Simmons?

It also has a couple of great rewatchable stretches, but like, when you know, uh, what's his face?

• 1:03:15Chris Ryan?

  Chigurh.

• 1:03:15Sean Fennessey?

  Anton Chigurh.

• 1:03:16Bill Simmons?

When you know he's coming to the hotel. And he's in there and he realizes the tracker's in his suitcase, like that 10 minutes.

• 1:03:22Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:23Bill Simmons?

He's just lights out. It's so good.

• 1:03:24Chris Ryan?

The Bardem Kelly McDonald scene at the end.

• 1:03:28Sean Fennessey?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:03:28Chris Ryan?

Um, yeah, there's so many like.

• 1:03:30Sean Fennessey?

I always think of Call It, you know, the, when he's in.

• 1:03:32Chris Ryan?

  Oh, the guy.

• 1:03:33Sean Fennessey?

Talking to the guy in the, in the store.

• 1:03:35Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:35Sean Fennessey?

And he's got the, doing the coin flip.

• 1:03:37Bill Simmons?

And Woody going to, Woody talking to him. Anyway, that's number 19 somehow.

• 1:03:42Chris Ryan?

Uh, is there another Cormac McCarthy adaptation on this list?

• 1:03:45Bill Simmons?

  There's not. That's, that's.

• 1:03:47Sean Fennessey?

  Counselor.

• 1:03:47Chris Ryan?

Counselor would be on my list.

• 1:03:48Sean Fennessey?

I, I lobbied for the counselor on our list.

• 1:03:50Bill Simmons?

  Number 18, Bridesmaids.

• 1:03:52Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:53Bill Simmons?

Found that we started to move a lot more toward the comedies as we hit the top 25.

• 1:03:57Chris Ryan?

  Sure.

• 1:03:57Bill Simmons?

But Bridesmaids, uh, just a huge win in my family. Um, maybe my wife's favorite movie of the century.

• 1:04:04Sean Fennessey?

  Really?

• 1:04:05Bill Simmons?

Yeah, absolutely loves it. Um, we'll just put it on. Um.

• 1:04:10Chris Ryan?

It just, I, this is one of the big tragedies of current movie making is that we don't just get like a movie like this once a year. The hard R comedy kinda.

• 1:04:20Bill Simmons?

All the side characters are great. Uh, that, the one, the one friend who's like, oh my God, it's a jerk off fest in there. It's just covered in cum, everything. Talking about her kids. Uh, and it's got a couple like lights out scenes. And then like Maya Rudolph, basically in this supporting role. It's like, she easily could have been the lead, but everything about this movie is on.

• 1:04:41Sean Fennessey?

Rose Byrne too. I feel like Rose Byrne's amazing in it.

• 1:04:44Bill Simmons?

This is one of the most loaded casts, I think of any movie in the last 15 years. Looking back, be like, oh, they're in it. They're in it. They're in it.

• 1:04:50Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. I also, I didn't watch Gilmore Girls, so I didn't really know anything about Melissa McCarthy before this movie came out. And I was like, who the fuck is that?

• 1:04:56Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:58Bill Simmons?

Number 17, This Is The End.

• 1:05:00Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:01Chris Ryan?

  Yep.

• 1:05:01Sean Fennessey?

  So it's so funny though.

• 1:05:03Bill Simmons?

This is the movie Ben and I have watched the most together.

• 1:05:05Sean Fennessey?

You know, you guys know this, having done hundreds of these, but like comedy rewatchables episodes are harder to do.

• 1:05:12Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:12Chris Ryan?

Cause you're just like, this is really funny.

• 1:05:14Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. Cause it's hard to not just repeat the jokes and laugh a lot, which is, it's, I think it's fun for us, but like, it's not as. Chewy to get into them as some of the dramas, but you have a lot of comedies.

• 1:05:24Chris Ryan?

It was interesting also, just generationally, that this was like a huge Craig Danny Heifetz movie, that this is the one that they're like, this is the classic, which I I do agree with. And it is such an amazing little like time capsule of all these people as they're getting really, really, really famous.

• 1:05:38Bill Simmons?

One of the best things about it is it's really the end of the specific era. Like for some people, this was about the peak or it was right before it was about to slide the other direction. But uh, just that all the Inside Hollywood stuff is really funny, too. Everything about it. Danny McBride, number 16, Limitless.

• 1:06:05Chris Ryan?

  Really?

• 1:06:10Sean Fennessey?

  It's great, great pick.

• 1:06:11Chris Ryan?

  Good list making.

• 1:06:11Sean Fennessey?

  This is a great pick.

• 1:06:12Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:14Bill Simmons?

Do you, I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie over the last 10 years.

• 1:06:19Sean Fennessey?

We were talking about this this week.

• 1:06:20Bill Simmons?

We did some rewatch of it was like five years ago.

• 1:06:21Sean Fennessey?

But I was saying how, you know, like I'm on the brink of 44, I'm about to fall off the cliff. Like it's really hard. We have one of those like three pod days where it's like my brain is leaking out of my ears. And I, there are times where I'm like, I wish I had the limitless drug.

• 1:06:34Chris Ryan?

You guys were texting about this yesterday and I was like, I don't really feel that much different between at 48 than I did at 44. But then I had to do a, a ad read for Wayfair and wondered whether I could read. So I couldn't spell Wayfair for the URL. So I was like, what's happening? What is happening to me?

• 1:06:53Bill Simmons?

  Your brain gets scrambled.

• 1:06:54Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:55Bill Simmons?

This movie is kind of perfect with the pace.

• 1:06:58Sean Fennessey?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:06:58Bill Simmons?

Every moment of the movie you can jump into and it's good. And uh, it's really well done. It's hilarious that De Niro's in this, taking it seriously.

• 1:07:07Sean Fennessey?

  So funny.

• 1:07:07Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:08Bill Simmons?

It's the movie that made Cooper a star. I think it wasn't Hangover really like he needed one of these where it's like, oh, wow. This is going to be good, too. And then he was off.

• 1:07:16Chris Ryan?

What political office does he win or run for at the end of this movie?

• 1:07:19Bill Simmons?

  Eddie?

• 1:07:19Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:21Bill Simmons?

I think he's running for like mayor of New York or governor of New York or something.

• 1:07:24Sean Fennessey?

  Zoran.

• 1:07:25Bill Simmons?

Yeah. He's like, you know, he figures out how to microdose it at the end.

• 1:07:29Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:29Bill Simmons?

You don't understand, that car there is gonna crash into that car in two seconds. And De Niro turns around, there's a car crash.

• 1:07:35Chris Ryan?

Oh, and it didn't like, because like, De Niro's like, I'm gonna take away your supply. And he's like, no, I've been building my own lab.

• 1:07:41Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:41Chris Ryan?

  We're making it.

• 1:07:42Sean Fennessey?

How is there not a sequel to this movie?

• 1:07:44Bill Simmons?

Well, they made the TV show.

• 1:07:45Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, but there should be a two, right? He's, he lives at the end, right?

• 1:07:48Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:48Bill Simmons?

You know, I know that other people feel this way about Limitless, cuz it's on all the time, on every channel. It's always on, it's all over the place. I'm upset that you're not more into it.

• 1:07:57Chris Ryan?

What are you talking about? I did the rewatchables with you.

• 1:07:59Bill Simmons?

I know, but I feel like you're falling off a little bit.

• 1:08:02Chris Ryan?

No, I just couldn't remember what political office you, and I'm surprised it went above like, I'm surprised it's above some of these movies. I'm surprised it's above John Wick 2. I'm surprised it's above.

• 1:08:13Sean Fennessey?

It's sick to put it over Dark Knight in No Country.

• 1:08:16Bill Simmons?

Listen, CR, I didn't say the list made sense. I'm just talking about what I've watched the most times.

• 1:08:21Sean Fennessey?

  It's awesome.

• 1:08:22Chris Ryan?

You just wanted to sit here and be like, great job, Bill.

• 1:08:24Bill Simmons?

No, I wanted you to push back.

• 1:08:26Sean Fennessey?

I saw it one time and I definitely enjoyed it.

• 1:08:28Chris Ryan?

I really like Limitless, I've seen it a lot of times.

• 1:08:31Bill Simmons?

I like when he drinks the blood.

• 1:08:32Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:34Bill Simmons?

I told you, we're gonna get weird. Number 15, not that weird, Sideways.

• 1:08:37Chris Ryan?

  Hmm, okay.

• 1:08:38Bill Simmons?

  Watched it a lot.

• 1:08:39Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:39Bill Simmons?

You get to go somewhere. I get to go into San Onofre and do some wine tasting.

• 1:08:44Sean Fennessey?

  That was a fun episode.

• 1:08:45Bill Simmons?

  Giamatti Tour de Force.

• 1:08:46Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. But we got to learn all about your, all your wine history.

• 1:08:49Chris Ryan?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:08:49Bill Simmons?

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I like all the wine stuff. Um, it's got a couple of great rewatchable moments, like the, the big scene with, what's her face?

• 1:08:58Chris Ryan?

  Virginia Madsen.

• 1:08:59Bill Simmons?

  Virginia Madsen.

• 1:09:00Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, explaining the.

• 1:09:01Bill Simmons?

She's got her big, like, Oscar monologue and, uh, the ending's good. I like, I like, uh.

• 1:09:06Chris Ryan?

Thomas Haden Church is really good in this.

• 1:09:08Bill Simmons?

I like beaten down characters who it's like, maybe they aren't gonna be that successful at the end.

• 1:09:12Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:13Bill Simmons?

The highlight of this guy's life might be just going back and teaching.

• 1:09:16Chris Ryan?

  Right.

• 1:09:16Sean Fennessey?

Well, the revelation that his novel sucks is really funny.

• 1:09:22Bill Simmons?

Number 14, probably the most controversial one on the list, Spotlight.

• 1:09:29Chris Ryan?

I mean, it's a tough rewatch, but it's got everything we look for in a movie.

• 1:09:31Bill Simmons?

That's the thing, it should be a tough rewatch, and yet I always rewatch it. And for the same reasons, I always watch All the President's Men. Just the media putting together this puzzle of something.

• 1:09:43Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:44Bill Simmons?

And people trying to investigate, and all the acting's really good. Obviously, we did this pretty early, we had the Ruffalo Award. And I don't really understand why I always get sucked into it, because it's not a feel-good movie. It ends with.

• 1:09:57Chris Ryan?

I'm sure some of it is like the Boston and also Boston media stuff.

• 1:09:59Bill Simmons?

That's another thing, I was there for it. Yeah, I was there when this happened.

• 1:10:01Chris Ryan?

But it's just a process movie, it's just them going through phone books, going through records and stuff.

• 1:10:06Sean Fennessey?

And we just showed it at Coolidge Corner, right? And people dug it, you know, like it's, and it's 10 years now, this year.

• 1:10:11Chris Ryan?

Yeah, and there's like, also like, you get to like, the seventh spot in the lineup, and Crudup and Jamie Sheridan are absolutely like, stealing.

• 1:10:18Bill Simmons?

Every scene is just a home run in this movie. And I think one of the reasons I appreciate it so much when I watch it is how hard it is to make a movie like this successful. Because we've seen the bad versions of this, right? Like, what was the one, the, the Me Too movie that they?

• 1:10:34Sean Fennessey?

  She Said.

• 1:10:34Bill Simmons?

She Said? Like, they'll do versions of this where it's like, oh, this is actually really hard to do this. Or even like what Goldman wrote about All the President's Men of just, how do you do this? How do you get all this information? How do you bring all these characters in?

• 1:10:48Bill Simmons?

It's really good. Number 13, Before Sunset.

• 1:10:51Sean Fennessey?

  Gotta be.

• 1:10:52Chris Ryan?

  No notes.

• 1:10:53Bill Simmons?

The second one, not the first one, for people.

• 1:10:55Sean Fennessey?

We did that on the show this year.

• 1:10:57Bill Simmons?

Yeah, we've, we've done multiple Before Sunset content, so don't need to go over that.

• 1:11:00Chris Ryan?

Have you thought about Midnight more?

• 1:11:03Bill Simmons?

  I have.

• 1:11:05Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 1:11:07Bill Simmons?

What's funny is, I've only seen it once.

• 1:11:10Sean Fennessey?

I had a really funny conversation with a close colleague of ours about not getting divorced the other day. And how it's very important to not get divorced. And that movie is a really interesting exploration of not getting divorced.

• 1:11:22Chris Ryan?

Was this person on the fence?

• 1:11:23Sean Fennessey?

Uh, no, no, neither, neither of us were on the fence.

• 1:11:25Chris Ryan?

You guys were both being like, we're married, yeah?

• 1:11:27Sean Fennessey?

No, we were just like, I've met people who've gotten divorced and it has like scooped out their soul. You know, like, it's, you know, and even more so if you have kids, and just like how messy it is. And that, that, the whole, that whole movie is like, how far can we take being honest with each other without it ending?

• 1:11:44Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:44Sean Fennessey?

  The midnight is.

• 1:11:46Bill Simmons?

That's probably why I've only watched it once.

• 1:11:48Sean Fennessey?

  It's hard.

• 1:11:48Bill Simmons?

  It's too raw.

• 1:11:48Sean Fennessey?

  It's rough.

• 1:11:49Bill Simmons?

  It's a hard movie.

• 1:11:50Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:50Bill Simmons?

Ethan Hawke was like, I love it, man. Let's go.

• 1:11:55Bill Simmons?

  Number 12, Old School.

• 1:11:58Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, also now a little underrated.

• 1:12:00Bill Simmons?

  Yes. So part of this.

• 1:12:01Chris Ryan?

This was a very fun rewatchable. This was early.

• 1:12:04Bill Simmons?

This list favors a little bit the movies from the 2000s, just from totality. Movies been in our lives more often. This movie came out in 03.

• 1:12:12Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 1:12:14Bill Simmons?

But the, you know, it's just influential, still funny, pop it on anytime. Pop into any part of the movie, basically.

• 1:12:23Chris Ryan?

  Crucial Luke Wilson performance.

• 1:12:24Sean Fennessey?

This is, this is the origin of the Luke Wilson, could have been Harrison Ford take. Which lives in infamy. You know who loved that take? Cameron Crowe.

• 1:12:32Chris Ryan?

  Did he?

• 1:12:32Sean Fennessey?

  He was all, all in.

• 1:12:34Chris Ryan?

  Really?

• 1:12:34Bill Simmons?

He really did. Forgot to tell you that.

• 1:12:37Sean Fennessey?

  He was like, I agree.

• 1:12:39Bill Simmons?

He, yeah, he just was like, 100%. Did one of those.

• 1:12:44Sean Fennessey?

It wasn't like, it wasn't like, I got Chris's back. It was like, we all, we all know this.

• 1:12:48Bill Simmons?

Yeah, it was a we all know this.

• 1:12:50Sean Fennessey?

  Which, which of course.

• 1:12:51Chris Ryan?

Did Cameron Crowe watch, uh, We Own This City?

• 1:12:57Sean Fennessey?

  No, I don't think so.

• 1:12:58Bill Simmons?

  Number 11, Fast Five.

• 1:13:00Sean Fennessey?

  Two Fast and Furious movies.

• 1:13:03Bill Simmons?

Fast Five's just an unbelievable achievement.

• 1:13:06Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 1:13:07Bill Simmons?

  It's set in Brazil.

• 1:13:08Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 1:13:09Bill Simmons?

It moves 17 times. There's like, probably five great set pieces and then one of the best endings of any action movie of this century. And it's like, when they really figured out the formula. They peak. It's the peak of, this is the 96 Bulls. It's a, a guy that they steal money from who then tries to kill all of them.

• 1:13:31Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 1:13:32Bill Simmons?

It's the peak of the franchise.

• 1:13:34Chris Ryan?

  It's not Charlize yet, right?

• 1:13:34Sean Fennessey?

  No.

• 1:13:34Bill Simmons?

No, no, no. This is before, before they started to kind of get too ambitious and it, it's the, it's unrealistic, but still realistic. It's before the wheels started to come off.

• 1:13:47Chris Ryan?

  Okay.

• 1:13:47Bill Simmons?

Fast Six, they're dropping cars from helicopters and they're just landing and driving and that's when, but Five is like realistic. But we're in Brazil, The Rock comes in.

• 1:13:57Chris Ryan?

Uh, The Rock's in this one, that's right.

• 1:13:58Bill Simmons?

Yeah, The Rock's, The Rock shows up.

• 1:14:00Sean Fennessey?

This is the last time The Rock shows up on your list.

• 1:14:05Bill Simmons?

  Yes.

• 1:14:07Chris Ryan?

You thought Smashing Machine number one?

• 1:14:09Sean Fennessey?

  Jungle Cruise?

• 1:14:10Bill Simmons?

  Yeah. Number 10, Step Brothers.

• 1:14:12Sean Fennessey?

  Hmm. Lot of comedies.

• 1:14:14Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:15Bill Simmons?

  Lot of comedies.

• 1:14:15Chris Ryan?

This is a guy, this is a guy who loves to laugh.

• 1:14:17Sean Fennessey?

Well, it's like a funeral, though, for the era, this era of comedies.

• 1:14:21Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:22Bill Simmons?

It is kind of a rewatchable, it turns out.

• 1:14:24Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I mean, they really are. We grew up watching the same 25 comedies over and over again. But I don't know, I don't feel like that's how it works anymore.

• 1:14:33Bill Simmons?

This is for the Simmons fam, a staple.

• 1:14:36Chris Ryan?

  Yes.

• 1:14:37Bill Simmons?

Tour de Force, still really funny. Everybody's good in it. Can't believe how many good actors and random people are in it. The Catalina thing is, is just all time funny to Billy Joel.

• 1:14:49Chris Ryan?

Deleted scenes. I mean, honestly, Step Brothers, I would probably, I would be able to do Step Brothers as many times as he. Like, there's just like-

• 1:14:55Sean Fennessey?

Richard Jenkins explaining that when he grew up, he wanted to be a dinosaur. And his dad took that away from him, and he even told him he couldn't be a dinosaur. Tells his kids that don't let them take that away from you. It's just, it's incredible. It's great, it's great.

• 1:15:10Bill Simmons?

  Number nine, Taken.

• 1:15:11Sean Fennessey?

  Hmm.

• 1:15:12Bill Simmons?

  90 Minutes, perfect.

• 1:15:15Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 1:15:16Bill Simmons?

Just the perfect movie, great father-daughter movie. Watch it again now that you have a daughter.

• 1:15:21Sean Fennessey?

What I want to be thinking about, definitely.

• 1:15:22Bill Simmons?

I watched it with my daughter when she was like 10.

• 1:15:24Sean Fennessey?

  That, this is Albanians.

• 1:15:26Chris Ryan?

  This is Albanians.

• 1:15:27Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:27Chris Ryan?

And this is Elisha Cusworth going to a U2 concert is the premise?

• 1:15:32Sean Fennessey?

  It's a, it's a, no, it's not Elisha Cusworth.

• 1:15:34Bill Simmons?

  Not alive, how dare you?

• 1:15:34Sean Fennessey?

  No, it's Maggie Grace.

• 1:15:36Chris Ryan?

Oh, Maggie Grace, my bad, yeah.

• 1:15:37Bill Simmons?

Playing young, she's probably in her mid 20s, playing like a 16-year-old.

• 1:15:41Chris Ryan?

Yeah. Um, sorry, sorry to both of them.

• 1:15:44Bill Simmons?

Great lessons from this movie, including don't lie to your father. You might get kidnapped Albanians.

• 1:15:49Chris Ryan?

Yeah, this is just, I feel like this is both personal for you, but also like you love Liam Neeson executing guys.

• 1:15:55Bill Simmons?

When was the last time you saw it, Ciara?

• 1:15:56Chris Ryan?

  It's been a while.

• 1:15:57Bill Simmons?

  Ciara, this movie's impeccable.

• 1:16:00Bill Simmons?

It's just, it's an absolute achievement.

• 1:16:02Sean Fennessey?

It inspired a whole wave of action movies just like it.

• 1:16:07Chris Ryan?

Liam Neeson has made like twenty movies like this.

• 1:16:08Bill Simmons?

You know what I really appreciate about this movie is, is it's just, it's tight. It's like an eight ounce filet mignon. It's like, do you want the twelve ounce? I just want the eight ounce. Take twenty bites of this and dip it in some steak sauce. I watched it on an airplane recently because it was on, it was on JetBlue. And, uh, and there were no games on and I was just around. It was on like AMC or one of those things. I was like, great, lock it down. I'll do some emails, just have Taken on.

• 1:16:35Sean Fennessey?

What's your steak sauce of choice? Like, you're like a burnage?

• 1:16:39Bill Simmons?

  Whatever, whatever is there.

• 1:16:41Chris Ryan?

Whatever the chef recommends with this cut, yeah.

• 1:16:44Sean Fennessey?

  Okay, what about you?

• 1:16:45Chris Ryan?

  Mail.

• 1:16:48Bill Simmons?

My favorite scene in Taken is when he shoots Jean-Claude's wife in the arm. When he's trying to get information. She thinks there, he's there for dinner, Liam Neeson. But he's there to get information from Jean-Claude, whatever his name is. And now they have guns. And Liam Neeson shoots his wife in the arm. And the guy does this, he's like, relax, it's a flesh wound.

• 1:17:13Bill Simmons?

We haven't even seen what happened to the bullet yet. This movie's great. You get to go to different parts of Europe. We get to dive into the seedy world of kidnapping and auctioning.

• 1:17:22Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:23Bill Simmons?

And then he kills everybody in the end and gets his daughter back.

• 1:17:26Chris Ryan?

  I gotta tell you.

• 1:17:26Bill Simmons?

And she's fine, except for the two days of heroin.

• 1:17:28Chris Ryan?

Is a flesh wound something that only happens in movies? Or can you really get a flesh wound in real life and be fine?

• 1:17:34Sean Fennessey?

This was just happened in another movie where someone got shot in the arm and it went right through and it's okay.

• 1:17:39Bill Simmons?

It's like, sometimes it would just hit your bone, right?

• 1:17:41Sean Fennessey?

But if it hits your bone, it shatters your bone. That's not what you want.

• 1:17:47Bill Simmons?

  Number eight, Superbad.

• 1:17:49Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:51Bill Simmons?

Big, long, sprawling, funny movie. Has not aged badly in any way.

• 1:17:58Sean Fennessey?

No, it's the counterpoint to Mean Girls, right?

• 1:18:00Bill Simmons?

Ben Simmons loves it. We've watched it many times. All the cameos are hilarious.

• 1:18:06Chris Ryan?

  Hater and Rogan.

• 1:18:07Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:07Chris Ryan?

Probably like some of the funniest ten minutes of screen time ever.

• 1:18:10Sean Fennessey?

  I'm a stone.

• 1:18:12Bill Simmons?

Nudging right ahead of it in the seven spot, The Hangover.

• 1:18:16Sean Fennessey?

  Wow.

• 1:18:16Chris Ryan?

Wow, this is a laugh riot from you.

• 1:18:18Bill Simmons?

I went, I really battled between seven and eight with those two. And I thought The Hangover, um...

• 1:18:24Chris Ryan?

It's gonna be amazing if six is like Twelve Years a Slave.

• 1:18:30Bill Simmons?

I think The Hangover, what nudged it for me is not at the table, Carlos, which I think is one of the funniest things ever said in a movie. When they're pretending to jerk off to baby and Zach Alphakis goes, not at the table, Carlos. There's nothing funnier. It's just the, uh, it's the peak.

• 1:18:47Chris Ryan?

  I love The Hangover.

• 1:18:48Bill Simmons?

  The ending's great, closing credits.

• 1:18:50Chris Ryan?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:18:51Bill Simmons?

The, the Dan Band coming in and singing at the end.

• 1:18:53Chris Ryan?

  Fucking incredible.

• 1:18:54Bill Simmons?

Every time you think it's like losing steam, it gets really funny again.

• 1:18:58Chris Ryan?

Cooper is really, this was my preferred Cooper.

• 1:19:01Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, it's great.

• 1:19:02Chris Ryan?

  Like absolute shitbag.

• 1:19:03Sean Fennessey?

This is your favorite Bartha too, right?

• 1:19:05Chris Ryan?

Yeah, this is my favorite Bartha.

• 1:19:06Bill Simmons?

It's a grand slam. Roller Girl. Just killing it yet again.

• 1:19:12Sean Fennessey?

  Heather, of course.

• 1:19:13Bill Simmons?

All right, now we're down to the top six. Probably wouldn't have been easy or hard for you guys to figure out the top six. Number six, Miami Vice.

• 1:19:22Chris Ryan?

Hmm, well done. I really respect this and, and love you for this.

• 1:19:28Bill Simmons?

You know, when I told C R, uh, I'd need his time on Friday, he responded, time is luck.

• 1:19:40Bill Simmons?

This, uh, this movie has aged incredibly. It looks great.

• 1:19:45Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:45Bill Simmons?

I love hanging out with it. I love that we did a podcast with Colin Farrell where he seemed surprised that we liked it so much.

• 1:19:50Chris Ryan?

And he didn't have any recollection of making it.

• 1:19:52Bill Simmons?

Didn't really remember making it all.

• 1:19:54Chris Ryan?

Uh, we were like, any stories? He was just like, no.

• 1:19:58Bill Simmons?

I don't, I don't remember. Was I in that movie? The, the boat scene all the way to Cuba, all that part is one of the best 10 minutes from a rewatchable standpoint that we have, dude, in life.

• 1:20:09Chris Ryan?

I was, I was just, I some, somehow I was like watching the, like the John Hawks highway scene the other day and I was like, this is, what an amazing opening to a movie. It's just John Hawks.

• 1:20:19Bill Simmons?

It just goes, it goes, the movie starts, we're already going, the movie ends, we're still going. He's like walking to the hospital.

• 1:20:26Chris Ryan?

I'm not even sure, like, the bad guys at the end of the movie, are they the bad guys for the other two thirds of the movie, like the, the white power?

• 1:20:33Bill Simmons?

We don't want to say too much because this was Sean's number one, the 25 of 25.

• 1:20:37Sean Fennessey?

The celebration. And re-celebration of this movie is a mass delusion among middle-aged men. That's just one of my takes. I just, this movie does not work.

• 1:20:45Chris Ryan?

When have you last actually done the work?

• 1:20:48Bill Simmons?

You haven't even watched it since the theater.

• 1:20:50Sean Fennessey?

I saw it in theaters and I was like, absolutely not.

• 1:20:51Chris Ryan?

But you haven't, do you have like, do you have a good copy of it?

• 1:20:54Sean Fennessey?

You guys just said you have to watch Black Hat 10 times to get it. I'm not gonna fucking do that.

• 1:21:00Chris Ryan?

You saw one battle like five times.

• 1:21:01Sean Fennessey?

I loved one battle, but I loved one battle on first blush. Uh, I know, many people love Miami Vice and I know that you both do.

• 1:21:08Chris Ryan?

Are you excited about Butler and Jordan?

• 1:21:12Bill Simmons?

Is that who we landed on?

• 1:21:13Chris Ryan?

Isn't that who they kind of like landed on?

• 1:21:15Sean Fennessey?

I don't know if they have officially announced it for the, for the new Miami Vice movie, I mean, I don't, Austin Butler.

• 1:21:19Bill Simmons?

I always get nervous anytime they remake IP that I really like.

• 1:21:24Sean Fennessey?

But that's what this is. This already is that.

• 1:21:26Bill Simmons?

I know, but what I like about this, you know, they completely reinvented it in a really cool mid 2000s way. And then there's also this like, oh, what would have happened if they could have shot the original ending that man wanted to do? Like fun little side piece of this. There's great information about it and uh, great movie screen movie. Great cable rewatchable, great 4K, Blu-ray.

• 1:21:50Chris Ryan?

  Soundtrack.

• 1:21:51Bill Simmons?

  Great everything.

• 1:21:52Sean Fennessey?

As you know, I hate that Lincoln Park shit.

• 1:21:54Chris Ryan?

  Plan over.

• 1:21:55Bill Simmons?

And man, like tapping into this weird like, like advanced metal rock era? That I think was this era that wasn't even an era.

• 1:22:04Chris Ryan?

  The audio slave era.

• 1:22:05Bill Simmons?

Yeah, it lasted like five minutes.

• 1:22:07Sean Fennessey?

  I like that in collateral.

• 1:22:08Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:10Bill Simmons?

  Number five that departed.

• 1:22:12Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. Fucking rips. It's, to me, the definition of a rewatchable. The definition.

• 1:22:19Bill Simmons?

I think it's the first one we did twice.

• 1:22:21Chris Ryan?

  Departed and repartied, right?

• 1:22:22Bill Simmons?

Yeah. I mean, we could do the three-parted when we go to Netflix.

• 1:22:25Sean Fennessey?

Just so fun. Such a fun time.

• 1:22:29Bill Simmons?

It's perfect. Let, Leo and Damon at the perfect time of their career, Nicholson just deranged.

• 1:22:34Chris Ryan?

Is this the last great Nicholson? Or is it about Schmitz after this or something, right?

• 1:22:40Sean Fennessey?

  That's before it. Um.

• 1:22:43Bill Simmons?

  Well, the, probably about tennis.

• 1:22:46Sean Fennessey?

I think it probably is the last great Nicholson.

• 1:22:48Bill Simmons?

I think it is. Cause he's like early 70s at this point.

• 1:22:51Sean Fennessey?

He's been retired for 15 years.

• 1:22:55Bill Simmons?

  Number four, The Town.

• 1:22:58Chris Ryan?

  Over the Departed.

• 1:23:00Sean Fennessey?

  It's a strong take.

• 1:23:01Bill Simmons?

So, but it's not a take.

• 1:23:03Chris Ryan?

  It's pure re-watches, right?

• 1:23:05Bill Simmons?

  It's what I've re-watched more in the 21st century.

• 1:23:08Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:09Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 1:23:09Bill Simmons?

I think I've watched The Town more. I think I've been sucked in more. I just think I know the movie better. And I think it's four.

• 1:23:20Bill Simmons?

  What do you have, CR?

• 1:23:21Chris Ryan?

I would, I would, I would have these flipped personally.

• 1:23:23Bill Simmons?

  You've seen Departed slightly more.

• 1:23:25Chris Ryan?

Oh, definitely seen more than The Town. Yeah.

• 1:23:28Bill Simmons?

See, I have, The Town goes to another level to me because of the Boston stuff and how they do the locations. And I just like being in the North End and, um, great Affleck, uh, Blake Lively, though I just, I think I've watched it slightly more.

• 1:23:43Sean Fennessey?

Does your, uh, appreciation for the Conny Hoover adaptation increase your affection for Lively's performance in this movie? Did you see It Ends With Us? Did you watch the movie?

• 1:23:53Bill Simmons?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:23:53Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, what'd you think?

• 1:23:55Chris Ryan?

  It's number two.

• 1:23:58Bill Simmons?

  I, I didn't love it.

• 1:23:59Sean Fennessey?

  Didn't love it, yeah.

• 1:24:00Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:00Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, me neither.

• 1:24:01Chris Ryan?

I don't know if, I'm trying to think if there's a scene in The Departed that lives as large for us as, whose car are we taking?

• 1:24:10Bill Simmons?

  Or just Renner in general.

• 1:24:12Chris Ryan?

  And there goes college soccer.

• 1:24:15Bill Simmons?

  Or Shine, or Shine.

• 1:24:17Sean Fennessey?

What's your, can you do a little of your posture weight?

• 1:24:21Chris Ryan?

  Give her a little taste.

• 1:24:27Chris Ryan?

  You gotta gild them chemically.

• 1:24:33Bill Simmons?

I live two blocks from the ice rink. I have a lot of like geographical ties to this movie too. I just love the.

• 1:24:39Sean Fennessey?

Yeah. How many banks did you rob as a young man?

• 1:24:41Bill Simmons?

Never. It never went over the hill.

• 1:24:45Bill Simmons?

  Number three, Anchorman.

• 1:24:47Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:48Chris Ryan?

  Still haven't done it.

• 1:24:49Bill Simmons?

  Still haven't done it.

• 1:24:50Sean Fennessey?

  What are you waiting for?

• 1:24:51Bill Simmons?

There's a couple that we just haven't done yet, saving them.

• 1:24:55Sean Fennessey?

It's immaculate. It was on our list, too. It's a, it is a.

• 1:25:00Bill Simmons?

It's the highest comedy on this list. It's the comedy I've seen, rewatched, relived, cracked open the most times.

• 1:25:07Chris Ryan?

I like, I laugh to a point where I feel like I'm hallucinating when I watch this movie.

• 1:25:11Sean Fennessey?

It's a movie to me that is like a song where I've just memorized all the, not just the lyrics, but the way that the lyrics are sung. When he's like, ha, ha, ha, ha, you know, the intonations of everything that Ferrell does is really, really special.

• 1:25:27Bill Simmons?

I think if I did this movie, this list five years from now, Anchorman 2 would be on it, but I'm not quite there. That was like a recent, last six years thing for me. Yeah. There's some good stuff in that one.

• 1:25:36Chris Ryan?

Do you know, is there like an Anchorman 2 version where you can get like the complete?

• 1:25:41Bill Simmons?

There's an alternate movie, I think of.

• 1:25:43Sean Fennessey?

More sex scenes? What do you mean?

• 1:25:45Chris Ryan?

No, but is there like when they did the physical release of Anchorman 2, is the other movie on there? Or like this sort of all?

• 1:25:51Bill Simmons?

I think it's, I think the alternate movie's Anchorman 1 and then Anchorman 2 is like.

• 1:25:55Sean Fennessey?

You mean Wake Up Ron Burgundy?

• 1:25:56Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:25:56Sean Fennessey?

The second movie. That's on the first one. That was like all shot concurrent with the first movie and then they stitched it together from the cut scenes, basically, which is also, Wake Up Ron Burgundy is really funny, too.

• 1:26:06Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:08Bill Simmons?

  Number two, Social Network.

• 1:26:11Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:11Chris Ryan?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:26:12Sean Fennessey?

  Very special.

• 1:26:14Bill Simmons?

Perfect for a rewatchable standpoint. Jump in at any time. Effectively well done.

• 1:26:19Chris Ryan?

I was just rewatching this the other day. It happened to be on cable.

• 1:26:22Bill Simmons?

Really fun. Has gained like a different level of relevance the more and more we know about Zuckerberg, which we talked about when we did the pod five years ago, and even since then, it's even more interesting.

• 1:26:33Sean Fennessey?

  So, thoughts on the sequel?

• 1:26:36Bill Simmons?

  I'm okay with it.

• 1:26:37Sean Fennessey?

  Okay.

• 1:26:38Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, I, I'm gonna give it a chance mentally. I don't feel like it's a money grab.

• 1:26:42Sean Fennessey?

Sorkin, writing and directing, Jeremy Allen, Jeremy Strong and Jeremy Allen White.

• 1:26:48Chris Ryan?

And Jeremy Allen White's the Wall Street Journal reporter, right?

• 1:26:50Sean Fennessey?

  And Mikey Madison?

• 1:26:51Chris Ryan?

  Is the whistleblower.

• 1:26:52Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah. Good cast.

• 1:26:56Sean Fennessey?

It's a risk. It's a risk. This is a very, this is a movie with a, an immaculate reputation.

• 1:27:04Chris Ryan?

  That was two, right?

• 1:27:06Bill Simmons?

What do you think number one is?

• 1:27:08Chris Ryan?

  I think it's.

• 1:27:12Bill Simmons?

I like that he's looking at me like to see what my poker hand is.

• 1:27:17Bill Simmons?

I don't think you're gonna get it, but you will.

• 1:27:19Chris Ryan?

You haven't done a PTA, you haven't done a Tarantino.

• 1:27:26Sean Fennessey?

What do you think it is?

• 1:27:29Bill Simmons?

You had a factor in family.

• 1:27:31Sean Fennessey?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:27:32Bill Simmons?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:27:33Sean Fennessey?

Is it, um, Fifty First Dates?

• 1:27:38Bill Simmons?

No, but that almost made the list.

• 1:27:39Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I know. It's a big one for your fam.

• 1:27:42Bill Simmons?

I don't personally like that movie that much, so I always feel like I was an unwilling participant in Fifty First Dates.

• 1:27:47Sean Fennessey?

  Interesting.

• 1:27:48Chris Ryan?

Is it season two of Euphoria?

• 1:27:49Bill Simmons?

No, it is The Devil Wears Prada.

• 1:27:52Sean Fennessey?

Oh, I wouldn't have guessed that.

• 1:27:54Chris Ryan?

I would not have guessed that.

• 1:27:56Bill Simmons?

I think I've, I've seen it the most times, and there's reasons for that, including my wife and my daughter. It's probably their favorite movie, but I always get sucked in. I'll, if it's on, I'll be like, oh, I kind of like this part. Uh, really fun to make fun of as you watch it. Perfectly done. It's really well acted. Anne Hathaway and Blunt are fantastic in it.

• 1:28:18Sean Fennessey?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:28:18Bill Simmons?

Streep, it's probably my favorite Meryl Streep performance.

• 1:28:22Sean Fennessey?

  Sure.

• 1:28:23Bill Simmons?

The music's good. It's a fun hang. You get to go places. There's a costume change. You get to go to Paris. And everybody in the house can watch it. I think it, I think we achieved rewatchable's perfection with Devil Wears Prada.

• 1:28:37Chris Ryan?

This is a, honestly, like a great zag from you. I did not expect Devil Wears Prada at the top.

• 1:28:43Bill Simmons?

But it wasn't even really a zag. It's kind of the answer.

• 1:28:46Chris Ryan?

So when you were conceiving of this list, when you were conceiving of this list, were you immediately like, I know Devil Wears Prada's number one?

• 1:28:52Bill Simmons?

I knew it was gonna be in the top five, but then as I started stacking the five together and really thinking like, all right, I'm out of times. This, like, I could put, I, I could put this on at my holiday party and my wife just would have gravitated over to the TV.

• 1:29:07Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:07Bill Simmons?

  It's one of those.

• 1:29:08Sean Fennessey?

It's really interesting that your number one and number two are both getting sequels in 2026.

• 1:29:14Bill Simmons?

What does that tell you, though?

• 1:29:15Sean Fennessey?

That, that is resonating in rewatchability.

• 1:29:18Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:18Bill Simmons?

I think Devil Wears Prada will be on for this entire century. I don't, it's weirdly ageless.

• 1:29:24Sean Fennessey?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:29:25Bill Simmons?

  Um.

• 1:29:27Bill Simmons?

I don't see it like losing steam. And I don't think that Social Network will lose steam either.

• 1:29:31Chris Ryan?

  No.

• 1:29:32Bill Simmons?

I don't think the town will let. What's interesting about like the top five, all those movies will keep going. Anchorman might have the toughest case.

• 1:29:39Chris Ryan?

I don't think so. I think, I mean, like, it'll maybe have like three or four years of like, people aren't talking about as much, but I don't.

• 1:29:44Bill Simmons?

  Yeah, yeah. I just.

• 1:29:46Chris Ryan?

  It's never gonna be like.

• 1:29:46Bill Simmons?

Seventies. I don't know, like, would a nineteen year old right now like Anchorman? I don't know. Like, my son doesn't really care about Anchorman, which I think is interesting.

• 1:29:54Chris Ryan?

What does your, comedy wise, what does Ben think is funny? Like, does he like Tim Robinson, or does?

• 1:30:00Bill Simmons?

His peak is This Is The End and Superbad, those movies.

• 1:30:03Chris Ryan?

  So the younger kids, yeah.

• 1:30:04Bill Simmons?

  The Apatow stuff.

• 1:30:06Sean Fennessey?

  Interesting.

• 1:30:07Bill Simmons?

  So, yeah.

• 1:30:08Sean Fennessey?

Devil Wears Prada is a great pick, especially under the rubric of rewatchability, because it is a movie that people just.

• 1:30:13Chris Ryan?

So what was your, what was your number one most rewatchable movie?

• 1:30:19Sean Fennessey?

There Will Be Blood is a movie I've rewatched the most times this century. Because it was the movie, it was the movie the first time I saw it, I was like, that's my favorite movie. Like, that was just. I had not seen anything, and we talked about it when we did our episode about that movie. So that would be pretty high up there, but I'm trying to think of what's something that is like, not this like, heavy.

• 1:30:36Bill Simmons?

Yeah, I love that movie, but I think I've only seen it three times.

• 1:30:39Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I've watched it like, at least twenty times. I've seen it a lot. Um, but I'm trying to think of like, what's kind of more in that like collateral or stepbrother zone where it's just like, I just like having this on, that thing that you're describing, as opposed to like, I'm studying this thing that means a lot to me, and there's a difference, right? So, I don't, what is it for you?

• 1:31:00Chris Ryan?

  I mean.

• 1:31:01Bill Simmons?

  It's Miami Vice.

• 1:31:02Chris Ryan?

The more I think about it, it's, it might be Sicario and Miami Vice are the two movies that I've probably put on the most.

• 1:31:08Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:10Chris Ryan?

Inglourious Basterds is high up there.

• 1:31:13Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:13Chris Ryan?

But I'm trying to think of like, movies like Den of Thieves that I actually like, like,

• 1:31:19Chris Ryan?

that I've actually like, fired up a lot.

• 1:31:22Bill Simmons?

I also think situation affects it. Like, my wife doesn't like Inglourious Basterds.

• 1:31:26Chris Ryan?

  It's true, right.

• 1:31:27Bill Simmons?

So I don't, it doesn't make the cut, because it's like, oh, I hate this movie. Like, it's one of those.

• 1:31:34Sean Fennessey?

  Drive?

• 1:31:36Chris Ryan?

Yeah, but I haven't, I haven't rewatched it in the last couple of years. I, you know, it's, it's funny. Like, I could easily do the movies I have rewatched, but they're not from this era. Like, it's like, I know that I watched Die Hard once a year. I know I watched Jaws.

• 1:31:49Bill Simmons?

But that's the thing, the eighties, nineties, this would have been so much harder.

• 1:31:53Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, it's different.

• 1:31:54Bill Simmons?

The 21st century especially, like, I think the only one from this decade I had was, was Maverick.

• 1:32:00Sean Fennessey?

  Yep.

• 1:32:01Bill Simmons?

But I think 10 years from now, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will probably be on it.

• 1:32:08Chris Ryan?

I mean, I know this is gonna sound, this would not even be in the top 10, but one that would be a surprise on my list would be the Scream reboot with Emma Roberts.

• 1:32:17Bill Simmons?

  Wow, that's a good one.

• 1:32:20Chris Ryan?

Because, I just, but yeah, I just rewatched it like a bunch of times in Scream rewatches, but also it's like my wife and I really like it. And so we just will like, sometimes like we're bored, we'll just throw that Scream on. It's a really random one.

• 1:32:35Sean Fennessey?

  Hard, Zach.

• 1:32:36Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:37Bill Simmons?

The thing is, if, if like, I lived alone and I didn't have anyone in the house, I think the list looks different.

• 1:32:42Chris Ryan?

  Sure.

• 1:32:44Bill Simmons?

  It's probably Miami Vice 1 and 2. It's just 1 and 2.

• 1:32:51Sean Fennessey?

Squid in the Whale is a movie that was just on in my house all the time when I was living in Brooklyn.

• 1:32:55Bill Simmons?

  Oh.

• 1:32:56Sean Fennessey?

Like, that was just a movie that I immediately was like, this is my energy. This is exactly the tempo. And that's another movie that's like 84 minutes. So you can just, it's very tight.

• 1:33:05Chris Ryan?

  That's so depressing.

• 1:33:06Sean Fennessey?

Kind of get in and get out. It is, but I don't know.

• 1:33:08Chris Ryan?

  It is Brooklyn, though, yeah.

• 1:33:09Bill Simmons?

You know what's interesting though? Out of all those movies, if 2000 was included, I would have had Almost Famous 1 and Cast Away 2.

• 1:33:19Chris Ryan?

  Sure.

• 1:33:20Bill Simmons?

Over every movie I just did.

• 1:33:23Sean Fennessey?

Almost Famous is not on our list because it's not an Amanda movie and she wouldn't put it on. But if it was just me, it would be in my top 10.

• 1:33:29Bill Simmons?

It's funny, some people don't like it. I remember that was a big Jay Kang thing.

• 1:33:32Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, he didn't like it.

• 1:33:33Bill Simmons?

Fuck that movie. He was like really angry about it. Yeah, some people hate it.

• 1:33:37Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:38Bill Simmons?

And then other people are like, if I'm not on the rewatchables, I'm resigning from The Ringer. Multiple people, not just Julia.

• 1:33:44Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:33:45Bill Simmons?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:46Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I don't know. That's it, but I agree with you like that one. If you were including 2000s, that would be really high, or the year 2000.

• 1:33:52Bill Simmons?

I just watched Cast Away last week.

• 1:33:54Sean Fennessey?

  Did you?

• 1:33:55Bill Simmons?

From beginning to end, because it was on Netflix and I was, had to do some work stuff and I was like, alright.

• 1:34:00Sean Fennessey?

How does the, the plane crash explosion look better than anything that happened in any movie with CGI in 2025? I, I still don't understand how that scene is so good.

• 1:34:12Bill Simmons?

And like way more harrowing than you kind of want to, like when that guy's on the ground like, ah, ah, like the one, the one pilot.

• 1:34:22Sean Fennessey?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:22Bill Simmons?

It's awful. Like you really feel terrible watching it.

• 1:34:25Sean Fennessey?

Did it predate Lost? It did.

• 1:34:29Bill Simmons?

Oh, it definitely, it predated by six years. Yeah, yeah. It's funny because the Martian's like that too, which I did not have on the list because I didn't, I didn't kind of keep revisiting it. I watched it a few times and then.

• 1:34:40Chris Ryan?

Oh, Martian would definitely be on my list.

• 1:34:42Bill Simmons?

Yeah, but it's the same thing of the what would I do?

• 1:34:44Sean Fennessey?

  No Ridley Scott for you?

• 1:34:47Bill Simmons?

  Nothing?

• 1:34:48Sean Fennessey?

You didn't have any Ridley Scott movies?

• 1:34:49Chris Ryan?

I would have, of the Scott brothers, I would definitely have Martian for Ridley. I would probably have Prometheus for Ridley and I would have definitely, Unstoppable.

• 1:34:59Bill Simmons?

So Unstoppable was a tough cut. And listen, I already have some regrets with the list.

• 1:35:04Chris Ryan?

What's the saddest movie you have on that list?

• 1:35:06Bill Simmons?

  Spotlight.

• 1:35:07Chris Ryan?

  Spotlight.

• 1:35:10Bill Simmons?

Guys, thanks for, thanks for listening to my top 50.

• 1:35:14Sean Fennessey?

  Was this being recorded?

• 1:35:15Bill Simmons?

Yeah, it was actually. I didn't just invite you over.

• 1:35:18Chris Ryan?

  It's live.

• 1:35:19Sean Fennessey?

  Are we on YouTube?

• 1:35:20Bill Simmons?

So what was your top three movies I've rewatched the most and from the 21st century? There Will Be Blood?

• 1:35:26Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, Inglourious Basterds would be up there. Wolf of Wall Street would be up there. Departed would be up there. You know, all the movies for my, my guys, my bros. Zodiac, Zodiac would be really high on my list.

• 1:35:39Chris Ryan?

Zodiac's very high up there for me.

• 1:35:42Sean Fennessey?

Michael Clayton would be really high for me.

• 1:35:43Chris Ryan?

  That's a great call.

• 1:35:45Bill Simmons?

I think something got fucked up. Zodiac was supposed to be on this. I knew I was gonna make a mistake.

• 1:35:50Sean Fennessey?

  Proof of life over Zodiac.

• 1:35:53Chris Ryan?

Was the Adam Sandler Brooklyn Decker movie over Zodiac?

• 1:35:57Sean Fennessey?

  Just go with it.

• 1:35:57Chris Ryan?

I would probably have Nice Guys in my list.

• 1:36:00Bill Simmons?

I swear to God Zodiac was in the 30s and then I was moving stuff around. I think it just got cut.

• 1:36:05Sean Fennessey?

R.I.P. Just like the Zodiac Killer. We still don't know.

• 1:36:09Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:36:09Bill Simmons?

God damn it. Zodiac was in there. I wonder what I bumped for Zodiac.

• 1:36:14Sean Fennessey?

I believe you should re Zodiac.

• 1:36:15Bill Simmons?

  Zodiac was in there.

• 1:36:16Chris Ryan?

  I'm, I'm sorry.

• 1:36:17Bill Simmons?

Zodiac's definitely in there for me.

• 1:36:19Sean Fennessey?

I have a six hour pod in me about Zodiac anytime you want to do it.

• 1:36:21Bill Simmons?

We did it, but I wasn't on it, which gives us an excuse to redo it.

• 1:36:24Sean Fennessey?

We did it with Greenwald, but it was like a 47 minute pod.

• 1:36:27Chris Ryan?

  Yeah.

• 1:36:28Sean Fennessey?

  In 2017.

• 1:36:30Bill Simmons?

Alright, we'll definitely redo that. Zodiac, so that was my big forget. So, and I'm sure I forgot like one or two others that people will.

• 1:36:37Sean Fennessey?

Yeah, I mean, there's no way to do it perfectly.

• 1:36:40Bill Simmons?

I tried. I went through all the rewatchables list. I went through like everything I own on Blu-ray or DVD and I think I got everything, but I missed Zodiac, so obviously.

• 1:36:50Chris Ryan?

  It happens.

• 1:36:51Sean Fennessey?

What, is there anything else? Have you thought of anything else that is in your top five rewatched?

• 1:36:56Chris Ryan?

No, I, I, Nice Guys was the one that just jumped to my mind.

• 1:36:59Bill Simmons?

So that I think five years from now, Nice Guys will be on the list for me.

• 1:37:03Sean Fennessey?

I watched it on a plane this year.

• 1:37:04Bill Simmons?

I've just started in a really like.

• 1:37:06Chris Ryan?

Did you see Crow was like, you know, that people always are asking for a Nice Guys sequel and me and Ryan Gosling, we, we just have a title. But the title makes us laugh and he was like, the title is Nice Guys 2: Mexican Detectives.

• 1:37:22Chris Ryan?

And I was just like, holy shit.

• 1:37:25Bill Simmons?

Well, the other guys is the other one that has been growing on me.

• 1:37:28Sean Fennessey?

  Really good. Really good.

• 1:37:30Bill Simmons?

The Eva Mendes scene is so fucking funny.

• 1:37:32Sean Fennessey?

Yes, when Walbert can't believe that he's like, who are you?

• 1:37:35Bill Simmons?

Yes. Alright, thanks for doing this.

• 1:37:38Sean Fennessey?

  Thanks, Bill.

• 1:37:38Bill Simmons?

Thanks to Gahav for producing. Sorry Craig couldn't be here. He's away. Hope you enjoyed.
