All right, on this episode of the program, it's gonna be fun. Dave Anthony is in studio. He is the host, producer, co-host of The Dollop Podcast, which is one of my favorite podcasts. Zax as well, also host of The Past Times Podcast. He's also a writer for the sitcom Marin and a bunch of other TV work. And it is a real treat to have him here. Trigger warning, Lefty Politics incoming because Dave Anthony is in studio. Let's do the Smoking Tire. I am, I'm on your new Apple Pro shit, your upgraded Apple level.

• 1:22Speaker 01

That's Gareth, he needs to get it, he needs to add more, he's the content guy over there.

• 1:26Matt Farah?

Yeah, no dude, it's great. I'm like, I only have time for so much content. So, but like, this is very exciting for me. You, do you understand, I have literally listened to every episode.

• 1:39Speaker 01

  From the beginning?

• 1:40Matt Farah?

One. He got me started, I went from one and I went to today.

• 1:44Speaker 01

Were you on board at the beginning?

• 1:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:46Speaker 01

Did you listen to my old podcast?

• 1:47Speaker 02

Sorry, I listened to the very first show when Gareth was on, I think, like episode two.

• 1:53Speaker 01

  How did you find that?

• 1:54Speaker 02

I don't remember and it was what five years ago and it got recommended I think on another show.

• 1:59Matt Farah?

Dude, that was ten years ago.

• 2:00Speaker 02

And I went and I started listening and like I've done some improv so I went, oh, I love this format.

• 2:05Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 2:05Speaker 02

And this is great, but then the stories you folks were telling were shit I've never heard about. I mean, history of fire, like you know all the best hits, like history of firefighters and that stuff. So I went, oh, this is amazing. And then I told him about it.

• 2:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 2:16Speaker 02

And then it's just like the best road trip show ever.

• 2:18Matt Farah?

Yeah, I went all the way back and all the way forward. That's actually why we're popular in Australia. Cause so. Cause they drive so fucking far. They drive so far. They've always been huge with radio. Yeah. Radio is the place you go as a comedian.

• 2:31Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 2:32Matt Farah?

That's why we're big there. It's a ra- it's a radio country. It's, I mean, look, I hope your numbers are amazing because I've, I learned, I found you just after 2016, maybe beginning of 17. Yeah. You know, as many sort of, you know, Obama Democrats, as you might call, just Obama people, but too young to really understand what was what. Other than he was a young, cool guy. Like, that was really it. But, you know, seeking answers and I found Kevin Kruse on Twitter. Okay. And started reading his books and, and other, other AR Moxon and, you know, some of these people who really have great newsletters now. Hamilton Nolan. Yeah. And, uh, and then found your show and I was like, ah, okay. All right, here we go. This explains it all. Really, and it really reinforces that nothing is new.

• 3:17Matt Farah?

Yeah. None of this is new. It's the same fight. It's always been fought. Yeah. Rich guys trying to take everything and everyone else trying to survive. Yeah. Um, but it's, it's a fucking treat having you here. I, I, I, it's, it's the number one bit of content on the internet that I consume. Wow, that's awesome. You're, you're in a very rare category, by the way. Of people who've done that? Of people I've blocked on Twitter and then unblocked.

• 3:46Matt Farah?

I'm like fucking what's her name in Batman, I crawled out of the hole in fucking despair. You walked through him and you got him back.

• 3:53Speaker 01

I remember we were arguing over something, car, it was electric vehicles, right?

• 3:57Matt Farah?

It was the electric vehicle adoption rate. You were optimistic, let's say.

• 4:02Speaker 01

No, I'm not, I'm not as much optimistic as I think it's going to be. It's going to have to happen.

• 4:09Matt Farah?

Sure, sure, but at the time, I remember it exactly, you shared some chart that came from somewhere.

• 4:14Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 4:15Matt Farah?

And that chart projected a very high EV adoption rate by like 2028.

• 4:20Speaker 01

  Right.

• 4:21Matt Farah?

I thought it was a lot, gonna be a lot lower.

• 4:23Speaker 01

  Yeah, you're right.

• 4:23Matt Farah?

And it escalated, and I was right, but I don't care. I'm happy that you're here. It doesn't matter. I mean, it doesn't, it doesn't matter. And you and I both, I think, are in a fundamental agreement about the issue.

• 4:35Speaker 01

Well, I think we know why, why it is the way it is and what it isn't.

• 4:39Matt Farah?

  Turns out there's nuance.

• 4:41Speaker 01

There's nuance. I really, I really thought that Volkswagen getting hit and having to build out their network charging stations would have a big effect, but that'll, the charging stations are a disaster.

• 4:55Matt Farah?

I've, there's been a lot of updates to the EA network in the last six months. And I've seen a lot of improvement anecdotally, personally. I think we're in deep shit for the next, maybe always.

• 5:09Matt Farah?

But, you know, you and I, we charge our cars at home, right?

• 5:11Speaker 01

We charge our cars, most people charge their cars at home.

• 5:13Matt Farah?

And that's, it's nice, like, we're just, they're just, it's just a nice thing to have and use, even independent of everything else. But yeah, the adoption rate is probably going to keep pretty low. But either way, like...

• 5:25Speaker 01

I talked, I had a two-hour conversation with a guy who covers EVs for a private equity firm. And he was like, it's, they just don't make, they're not making money. They're just not, they're not a thing that makes money.

• 5:37Matt Farah?

That's the problem. SUVs and trucks are so full of profit.

• 5:41Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 5:41Matt Farah?

That, that the people who make profit want to make them.

• 5:45Speaker 01

  Right.

• 5:46Matt Farah?

I mean, it's, it's not, it's not rocket science, and EVs are a loss leader in many cases. And they were being forced to build more than they really needed to build early. This sort of, and I actually, as much as I love an EV, I don't believe in 100%

• 6:00Speaker 01

  I don't either.

• 6:01Matt Farah?

EV adoption. There's a lot of places where a Prius or a hydrogen engine might be advantageous.

• 6:07Speaker 01

I mean, we, my wife and I both have EVs. And I bought my son a Jeep for that reason.

• 6:14Matt Farah?

  Oh, really?

• 6:15Speaker 01

So we would have a nice car there, just in case.

• 6:18Matt Farah?

Yeah, if you are capable of having one of one gas car around, you should. You never know.

• 6:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:25Matt Farah?

Um, how, how were you affected by the fires?

• 6:28Speaker 01

We had to evacuate, uh, so we're worked one, there's one town between us and Altadena.

• 6:34Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 6:35Speaker 01

Uh, and so it's, it's, it's interesting because I'm a big science guy, so I was watching it and I was going, well, we're not actually in danger as it may seem because of the way of the, the alignment of the mountains. Uh, so the fire would have to have gone a little bit north to get to us, which I don't, I didn't see how that was possible.

• 6:56Matt Farah?

Cause the wind was going hard west.

• 6:57Speaker 01

The winds were, and then they went south and southwest and I was just like, I just don't see them turning towards us. But we did wake up at four AM and I was like, come on, everybody in the van, we're getting the fuck out of here.

• 7:07Matt Farah?

  Wow, yeah, scary stuff.

• 7:08Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. So we were, we were evacuated for like a day. And then I drove back over there just to look and it was the weirdest thing. It was locking out as the town between us and it, the, the clouds just as if there was a wall.

• 7:21Matt Farah?

  There's a line.

• 7:22Speaker 01

  Stopped.

• 7:22Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 7:23Speaker 01

And so I was like, we're actually in one of the better places in LA. We're closest to the fire and yet nothing's blowing towards us. And we don't have the bad air and so we didn't have any problems the whole time. When everyone else is talking about terrible air and like it can't go outside and I was just like, wow.

• 7:42Speaker 02

The wind direction's key because my, my wife's friend, her house is like two blocks from the, like where everything burned out.

• 7:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:47Speaker 02

And she, her house is uninhabitable by insurance because of the amount of stuff on it. Like, didn't get touched by fire, but they're like, this is toxic.

• 7:56Matt Farah?

  Caked in like lead and.

• 7:57Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 7:58Speaker 01

The stuff that's, the stuff that's there, you don't want to go back there.

• 8:01Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's bad. It's really bad.

• 8:03Speaker 01

What about you? Did you have?

• 8:04Matt Farah?

We're fine. Yeah, we're fine. But I mean, it was, you know, the fine, the fine sprinkling.

• 8:08Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, it's like the, the worst place to be was right, was Pasadena. And I don't think people in, in like Highland Park, like I don't think people realize like.

• 8:16Matt Farah?

  It's really, really, really bad.

• 8:18Speaker 01

Cause our governor wasn't saying it.

• 8:19Matt Farah?

You were here in 94 for Northridge?

• 8:20Speaker 01

Uh, no, I was, uh, no, I was in Santa Barbara. I think I was. Wait, was Northridge? No, I was not here. I think I was in, up in Northern California.

• 8:30Matt Farah?

Yeah, I just wanted to know if they compared. I mean, I've heard people make the comparison in terms of

• 8:33Speaker 01

  Oh, the, oh, the destruction.

• 8:35Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 8:36Speaker 01

No, I've been, every time there's a big earthquake, when it hit San Francisco, when the highways collapsed, I was in Santa Barbara. And then when Northridge hit, I was up north.

• 8:44Matt Farah?

Okay, we have to keep you in the boundaries of the city. Don't leave, Dave. You can't go on tour ever again. You must remain in Los Angeles proper. Um, okay, this show, your show, The Dollop, of course, and, and by the way, The Past Times, which is also a lot of fun. Um, that's, that's a fun show. What, what made you want to start doing that show?

• 9:05Speaker 01

Uh, well, I mean, it's, part of it's personal, but, um, so I was doing-

• 9:09Matt Farah?

Was it out of spite, like all the content I've started?

• 9:14Speaker 01

So I was doing a podcast with another guy. We'd been doing it for years and it was basically like our careers didn't go the way we wanted them to. And I was really in a, like, my career was not good at all. Um, and, uh, so that's basically what we talked about. And we had this weird kind of cult following. And then he, uh, he was on the wagon. He went off the wagon. And things got a little weird. Uh, and I had had this idea of like, well, I'll read a, I'll read a story from history to a different- Cause I love history, so I'll read it to a different comedian every week.

• 9:42Matt Farah?

Did you study history as a, I mean, not that it matters, but like, you probably had at least a degree since-

• 9:47Speaker 01

I know, right? Yeah, yeah, I probably studied more than most. Um, I have, uh, my uncle's a history teacher, uh, and I don't know. I just always was into history.

• 9:55Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 9:56Speaker 01

So I was gonna read a story to him, a different comedian every week, and then Gareth came on as the- So what happened was my co-host of the other podcast went on a six-week tour of Australia. So I was like, well, I should have guest host on there?

• 10:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 10:11Speaker 01

I had Gareth on. Everybody loved him. And my, my co-host was in Australia reading how everybody loved him. And he forbid me from doing, from bringing Gareth back.

• 10:21Matt Farah?

  No way.

• 10:22Speaker 01

And I was just, I was just, I'm not the guy, like, I'm not the guy you for pickpicks.

• 10:28Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's, he probably could have seen that going the other way. Also you.

• 10:32Speaker 01

  I mean-

• 10:33Matt Farah?

  Yikes.

• 10:35Speaker 01

So I was like, so Gareth was coming over to do the podcast when I, when I got that word. And I already had this other thing ready to go. I just, I just hadn't set it up yet. So I, so I was like, he came over and I was like, we're doing a different podcast. And he's like, oh.

• 10:51Matt Farah?

  All right.

• 10:51Speaker 01

And that was the first episode. And then.

• 10:53Matt Farah?

What was the, what was the story?

• 10:54Speaker 01

  It was, uh, Cliven Bundy.

• 10:56Matt Farah?

Oh, yeah, right. Oh, yeah. Is it Cliven? Get out of here.

• 10:59Speaker 01

It might be. I don't know, but they're.

• 11:00Matt Farah?

I did listen to this episode at one point, but I thought it was Cliven.

• 11:03Speaker 01

It might be. I might be wrong. They're Mormons, so they do.

• 11:07Matt Farah?

  Sometimes your pronunciation.

• 11:08Speaker 01

  Oh, terrible.

• 11:09Matt Farah?

  Bro. Oh, God.

• 11:11Speaker 02

  Huh? 2014, 11 years ago.

• 11:12Matt Farah?

God, did you, you fucking butchered one so.

• 11:15Speaker 01

Oh, I butchered. Oh, no. There are names. There, did you see the, the, the North American, the, the native name for the Gulf of Mexico is actually this really long. People are like, we have to have you read that.

• 11:31Speaker 01

Yeah, I will always pick the wrong, uh, whatever. So anyway, so we did it about him and then everyone was just like, this is great. And I was like, yeah, this is what I'm doing now.

• 11:40Matt Farah?

Fucking, it is a great, a great format. And there's like, what's your process now? Cause it's now it's a big deal. Uh, where are stories coming from?

• 11:49Speaker 01

  I'm still finding them.

• 11:50Matt Farah?

I imagine people are sending you stuff constantly, right?

• 11:53Speaker 01

Yeah, I get a lot of like, yeah, actually go listen to that. That's, that's there already. Like, I get a lot of that. Uh, I get a lot of ideas that just don't work. They're too small, you know? Um, but yeah, I do get some ideas from people.

• 12:06Matt Farah?

What is, what is the, obviously you have a formula. What's the cutoff for too small?

• 12:09Speaker 01

Well, they have to, they, it, it really has to, it has to, the content has to be an hour, you know, reading it. And so when you get into some people's story, it's just.

• 12:16Matt Farah?

  Is that like 10,000 words?

• 12:18Speaker 01

No, it's actually like 5,000. It's not that much. And, uh, and so people like think someone's a story, but it's more like, oh, this person just went and was crazy.

• 12:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 12:28Speaker 01

  For 10 minutes.

• 12:29Matt Farah?

Dude, that happens to us all the time. We have people who want to come on as guests and I go, you've got five minutes. You don't have a 90 minutes of fun here.

• 12:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:37Matt Farah?

You have an Instagram post, not a long form podcast.

• 12:40Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. It's like, you know, go do something terrible or live a weird life.

• 12:43Matt Farah?

Well, there's your, there's your. For Patreon, right? You know, you're small up.

• 12:47Speaker 01

That's right. Yeah, you can do those for a small up.

• 12:50Speaker 02

Well, because your stories need a lot of beats, right? I mean, even if there's a crazy thing at the end, guy who steals tank on the way there.

• 12:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:57Speaker 02

There's a lot of beats. How did this person?

• 12:59Matt Farah?

  Shut out to Marvin.

• 13:01Speaker 01

Like, if the guy who stole the tank just went and did meth one day and got in a tank, then it's not a story.

• 13:07Speaker 02

  Right.

• 13:07Speaker 01

But he dug a mine in his backyard.

• 13:11Speaker 02

Yeah, and that's the fun part. You go, how did we get here? And then, once you start talking, you realize, oh, there's so much more to this.

• 13:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 13:17Speaker 02

  It's gonna be really fun.

• 13:18Speaker 01

I mean, I think of it, because I'm a, I came from screenwriting, right? So, that's how I think of it. Is it a movie?

• 13:25Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 13:25Speaker 01

And then, okay, then it's a story.

• 13:27Matt Farah?

A lot of them good. A couple of them that, where there are movies, I've gone and watched. I just, I just on a flight, fucking coming back last week from Spain, I watched In the Heart of the Sea. After, uh, the Essex, the Wailing Ship, the cannibalism.

• 13:40Speaker 01

Is that, is that the one where he does the interview with, uh, with his face?

• 13:44Matt Farah?

  Yes.

• 13:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, I just watched that.

• 13:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 13:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, okay.

• 13:46Matt Farah?

  You did it.

• 13:51Matt Farah?

I think the story was actually, it was the story of the captain, George fucking whatever. But it was the Wailing Ship Essex that became Moby Dick.

• 13:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 13:58Matt Farah?

  Pretty fucked up, bro.

• 13:59Speaker 01

  It pretty fucked up.

• 14:00Matt Farah?

How much of these do you retain? Cause it would be hard.

• 14:04Speaker 01

Not enough. I mean, I retain, some stuff just, I retain it, because I thought it was super interesting. But this stuff, it just, like, people say names, and I'm like, I have no idea who you're talking about. The episode twenty, two hundred and forty? And I'm like, yeah, no, I have no idea who that person is.

• 14:19Matt Farah?

Have been there. I, I mean, you know, but you're, you are able to call back a lot of stuff, and

• 14:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:24Matt Farah?

But I'm, I'm not, I'm happy to hear that you don't retain everything.

• 14:28Speaker 01

  I don't.

• 14:28Matt Farah?

  Cause I don't either.

• 14:29Speaker 01

Cause we, like, we do quizzes, and Gareth will quiz me, and I just have no idea with some of those. Like, I'll just get clobbered. I'm like, yeah, I mean, it's, you know, it's, it's no different than someone, like, did you read an article ten years ago? Do you remember everything? Probably not.

• 14:43Matt Farah?

No. With cars, I mean, same thing. If I drove a car for a really long time, I know a lot about it. If I drove a car for fifteen minutes, like, I don't know, whatever I said then, that probably applied.

• 14:52Speaker 01

Yeah, you're not gonna remember any of that.

• 14:53Matt Farah?

Yeah. Yeah, so you know, you mentioned screenwriting. I know you wrote, you wrote for Marin. You're on Marin as well, right?

• 15:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:00Matt Farah?

Drove a McLaren, which I just found out.

• 15:02Speaker 01

Uh, yeah, I did get to drive McLaren on that, yeah.

• 15:05Matt Farah?

It's a good part of the gig, even though brief as it may be.

• 15:08Speaker 01

I was so scared I was gonna do something and crash it. Like, that's all you're thinking when you're driving the wheel.

• 15:12Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, so like, was that the dream, screenwriting?

• 15:17Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, I, I just wanted to be a, growing up, I just wanted to be a working comedian. Like, that's all I wanted. And then you get into it and you're like, well, now I want more. And it was like, I want a TV show. But I never really wanted a TV show.

• 15:28Matt Farah?

During that era where people got sitcoms?

• 15:30Speaker 01

Yeah, when they'd hand them out like candy.

• 15:32Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 15:32Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. So I, so I wanted that for a while. And then, and then I just kind of like, I did writing and the thing about Marin was, it, it, there were no notes. So the studio, it was IFC, and they were like, we'll give you three notes a script and you can take them or whatever.

• 15:50Matt Farah?

That was just part of his deal?

• 15:51Speaker 01

That was, that was, I think that was what IFC was doing to all their shows.

• 15:54Matt Farah?

Yeah. How, how ethically stand-up of them.

• 15:58Speaker 01

Right? And they, and they made some good shows.

• 16:00Matt Farah?

Because if IFC isn't gonna do that, who else can you trust to do it?

• 16:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, right, exactly.

• 16:04Matt Farah?

That's the last vestige of no notes television making. Yeah, yeah.

• 16:09Speaker 01

So, uh, so we did that, uh, and that was, what, five seasons? And, uh, and then I, after that, I wrote on a show called Deadly Class for sci-fi, which is like a drama. And we got like, I would say 80 notes a show. And I was just like, bye.

• 16:28Speaker 01

  Bye, show business.

• 16:28Matt Farah?

  You write it yourself.

• 16:29Speaker 01

And at the same time, I'm doing the podcast and I'm like, so there's content I have total control over and no one can tell me anything except the people screaming online. And, and then there's show business where they tell you to do stuff and ruin everything. And I'm like, I'll, I'll podcast.

• 16:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah, easy choice.

• 16:45Speaker 01

  Yeah, easy choice, yeah.

• 16:47Matt Farah?

Yeah, there's like, big celebrities giving up on Hollywood careers for podcasting.

• 16:52Speaker 01

  Yeah, they really are.

• 16:52Matt Farah?

  And making more money.

• 16:53Speaker 01

More money, and it's easier and you're not at the whims of someone's schedule. You do it on your own.

• 16:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 16:59Speaker 01

It's just, it's just an easier life. And then, you know, with COVID, it was like...

• 17:03Matt Farah?

You were already there. Yeah, you were already there. What is, um, when you first took the show on the road or live? Yeah. Did you, did you, were you wondering if that was actually gonna work? Folks, it is a fact that your personal data is out there on the internet for so many people to see. And that's why today's sponsor Delete Me is so important. There's a million ways for malicious actors, scammers, marketers, politicians to get your information and bug you with it. And it's called data brokers. They buy your data from e-commerce and other websites. Anything you sign up for, anything you use your credit cards, your billing information, whatever,

• 17:47Matt Farah?

whenever you make an account, right? They then sell that information to people and they use it to inconvenience with you. It inconvenience you with it, right? It could be surveillance capitalism, it could be robocalls, spam texts, emails, you name it, you hate it all. Everyone hates it. This is universal. But Delete Me is awesome. It's a subscription service that removes your personal information from hundreds of data broker websites. I made an account. It took a few minutes because you have to provide them the information that you want deleted, right? Your previous phone numbers and addresses, your current information, stuff about your family, stuff about your friends, your job, etc., right? And then you submit all that stuff.

• 18:31Matt Farah?

And then you don't hear from Delete Me for like a couple of days. But then you get an email that says like, here's all this stuff that you, they found. And for me, it was like 1,100 instances of, of information, right? But then it keeps going. They can, they continue to send you regular personalized privacy reports showing what they found, where they found it, what they removed. Sometimes you have to approve the removal or submit an extra thing to get it removed. So it's not just a one-time service. Delete Me is always working for you, constantly monitoring and removing personal information that you don't want on the internet. It is great. So you can do it too. Take control of your data, keep your private life private by signing up for Delete Me now. At a special.

• 19:48Speaker 01

Well, so my previous podcast, which was called walking the room, we had this cult following. And the first time we did, I was like, let's just do a live show. And we did it at that comic book store in Hollywood that used to have shows all the time.

• 20:01Matt Farah?

  Oh, in the back?

• 20:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 20:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've been, I've been in that place. I know exactly what you're talking about. Yeah, go on.

• 20:05Speaker 01

People flew in from all over the country and a couple of people flew from Australia. And like half, half of the audience was from out of state. And I was like, what?

• 20:15Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, that's fucking crazy.

• 20:16Speaker 01

So then I was like, oh, this is a crazy, not just a live thing, but this is a crazy live thing. Like people are obsessed with, because, and you probably get this, people know you.

• 20:27Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:27Speaker 01

Because they've heard you say so many things about your life. And you're in their ears every day or every week or whatever it is. And so you're like a friend.

• 20:33Matt Farah?

I bet you have a lot of one sided conversations with people where they know a lot about you and you know absolutely nothing about them.

• 20:38Speaker 01

A lot. And that's probably why like now I very much, after that show, I very much put up like a wall of like, push you away. I'm the, I'm the guy that you don't want to come near.

• 20:47Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:48Speaker 01

But that, that's like self preservation because it was, it was crazy. Uh, it, people were just too intertwined and it was messy. So we did that show and then we, this other comic in Australia, Will Anderson, who's, I didn't, I didn't know at the time, but he was huge. He just reached out on Twitter or something and was like, hey, someone said we do the same type of podcast, just two friends talking to each other. And this, like, I say that now, but this is like before.

• 21:17Speaker 01

This is what nobody did that.

• 21:20Matt Farah?

No, in 2010, someone tried, someone told us, like, hey, you guys should do a podcast. And I'm like, everybody already has a podcast.

• 21:26Speaker 02

Chris and I had told you we should do that because I was listening to Maren and Rogan, and we're like, we should do this. And Matt was like, what, there's already so many?

• 21:33Matt Farah?

I was like, everybody already has a podcast.

• 21:35Speaker 01

  And there weren't that many?

• 21:36Matt Farah?

Yeah, four people had podcasts. We knew them all. Yeah.

• 21:39Speaker 02

  Yeah, we knew them too.

• 21:41Speaker 01

  Yeah, you know them.

• 21:42Speaker 02

  Now, Joe already has one.

• 21:46Matt Farah?

I did, yeah, I did a TV show with Adam Carolla, and there's Mark Mann over there, so like, that's all of them.

• 21:51Speaker 01

  Ooh, there's no more room.

• 21:52Matt Farah?

That's every podcast. The internet's full.

• 21:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:56Matt Farah?

All right, so Will Anderson, sorry.

• 21:57Speaker 01

So Will Anderson, he reaches out and he's, and like, we don't know each other, and so someone told him, it's the same, and he listened to ours, and we listened to his, and I was like, yeah, that's, they're totally the same. And then they were coming here, him and his, uh, he was trying to break into, into American comedy. So he came here, and then his buddy flew out, and so we just did each other's podcasts. And then that got us an Australian audience. And then we went and did what was called Super Pod at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, which was all four of us onstage at once.

• 22:27Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 22:28Speaker 01

  And

• 22:28Matt Farah?

  Complete shit show?

• 22:30Speaker 01

No, it's, it probably the best thing I've ever been a part of, showbiz-wise, in my life. It was, the audience was just on the edge of their seats, thrilled, like, it was just like an amazing experience.

• 22:45Matt Farah?

Was it their show or your show that you did?

• 22:48Speaker 01

We just called it Super Pod, so we're gonna put it on both podcasts, and, and this is hilarious, but wait till, this is so podcasting. So we do it, and everyone's just like, that was the most incredible thing I've ever been a part of. It was just fun, and it was just, everything was great. And then the five festivals, like, So we didn't record it.

• 23:12Matt Farah?

  No.

• 23:13Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 23:14Speaker 01

And so then they had a follow-up podcast where the three of them had me come over at night.

• 23:20Speaker 02

  And scream about.

• 23:21Speaker 01

  And then so like.

• 23:22Matt Farah?

Did you do the same bit again?

• 23:24Speaker 01

No, no, at midnight, they had me come into their, one of their apartments and they break it down live, like on the podcast. But they haven't recorded it. So then we did an hour about not, it not being recorded. So it's, it's a famous thing, SuperPod. Like if you go look it up, people are like, oh yeah.

• 23:38Speaker 02

  You had to be there.

• 23:40Speaker 01

Yes, you had to be there.

• 23:41Matt Farah?

It's the Titanic of podcasting. Or the Fire Fest of podcasting. Yeah, that's definitely happened to us.

• 23:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, right? It happened.

• 23:49Speaker 02

We call it technical difficult. I know I've listened to some of your shows where there's a tech problem and you can feel it in the intro. You're like, we recorded it from a speaker, from someone's phone. So we're really sorry.

• 23:58Matt Farah?

There was one where you thinly accused a member of the tech team for intentionally deleting it.

• 24:04Speaker 01

They absolutely did. It was, I did, I did it on.

• 24:07Matt Farah?

Was it George Bush in Texas?

• 24:08Speaker 01

George H. Walker Bush. Yeah, I did it in, in Houston and all of a sudden the file doesn't exist.

• 24:15Matt Farah?

It's a move. How was the audience though? Were they cool?

• 24:18Speaker 01

  It was great.

• 24:20Speaker 02

That is the benefit of streaming it live is we have a backup of a backup of a backup.

• 24:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 24:25Speaker 01

  And now we.

• 24:26Matt Farah?

You can always get the 240p.

• 24:28Speaker 02

I've done that. I had to do it.

• 24:29Speaker 01

And now, now we wear the, you know, the little digital.

• 24:33Speaker 02

  Oh yeah, digital lab record.

• 24:34Speaker 01

But sometimes that even, that'll screw up also sometimes. But anyway, so we did, we did SuperPod and then our podcast is popular. So we toured with it. Uh, then the stuff happened and then we started doing the dollop and Will was like, oh, finally a, finally a podcast I can recommend to the world because our other podcast is pretty dirty. Like we would just go into shit that was

• 24:56Speaker 01

  very dirty.

• 24:57Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 24:57Speaker 01

Um, and, and so then it just took off and all of a sudden we're doing 2,300 seat theaters.

• 25:03Speaker 02

  That rolls.

• 25:04Speaker 01

  Australia.

• 25:05Matt Farah?

  That's sick.

• 25:05Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 25:06Matt Farah?

It seems like you guys have a good time on the road.

• 25:07Speaker 02

You can hear the audience response and like the size of it. And it's gotta be so fun. And when the shows flow really well, I'm sure it's a super exciting.

• 25:14Speaker 01

It's really great. And, and I didn't realize this until last time we were down there, but someone was like, you're one of the big acts. And I was like, what? And he's like, you're one of the big Australian acts that comes through. Like I had no idea like, oh, I'm a big comedy act in Australia.

• 25:29Matt Farah?

  That's pretty cool.

• 25:29Speaker 01

But it doesn't, because you're just, I'm still the same dude.

• 25:32Matt Farah?

  Citizen shit.

• 25:34Speaker 01

  No, I'm in.

• 25:35Matt Farah?

Am I contributing culturally to your country? Like, the fuck is up, bro?

• 25:40Speaker 01

Last week I may have reached out to a producer and said, hey, if things go really tits up here.

• 25:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 25:46Speaker 01

Can I get a work visa? And he goes, I can get you a work visa immediately.

• 25:50Matt Farah?

I have a client here, a storage client here at the shop who got a gig, a six-month gig in New Zealand.

• 25:57Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 25:58Matt Farah?

  In December of 2019.

• 26:00Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 26:01Matt Farah?

  And subsequently, has not returned.

• 26:06Speaker 01

  That's impressive.

• 26:07Matt Farah?

  He is chilling.

• 26:09Speaker 01

It's hard to stay there, yeah.

• 26:10Matt Farah?

  He is chilling, yeah, yeah.

• 26:11Speaker 01

I mean, the one, the one, the reason we have not left, because we talked about leaving a while ago, uh, is because my kid's a baseball kid and also pulling a kid out of his life is...

• 26:22Matt Farah?

Because leaving is a fucking bitch. Nobody wants to do that. It's a fucking bitch. You have to be under direct threat, which is why we should be nicer to people fucking running across the desert to get here.

• 26:36Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 26:37Matt Farah?

  Because leaving is a bitch.

• 26:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:39Matt Farah?

  That's fucking why.

• 26:40Speaker 01

No one wants to do that. Nobody wants to leave their home country and come here. They have to.

• 26:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 26:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:46Matt Farah?

We fucked it up over there.

• 26:48Speaker 01

Yeah, we fucked it up big time.

• 26:50Matt Farah?

And then we put that motherfucker on TV and made him an expert of something when he did war crimes. Hey, Oliver North, nice to see you.

• 26:58Speaker 01

  Coming soon, by the way.

• 27:00Matt Farah?

  What did I miss?

• 27:01Speaker 01

Oliver North. Dollop of all in.

• 27:03Matt Farah?

Oh, oh, fuck, I thought you were...

• 27:05Speaker 01

  I'm researching it right now.

• 27:06Matt Farah?

I thought you were gonna tell me he got fucking nominated to some important position again. I was like, well, I haven't looked at the news.

• 27:12Speaker 01

  Oh, he will.

• 27:12Matt Farah?

I haven't looked at the news in two hours.

• 27:14Speaker 01

No, he'll be back, he'll be back.

• 27:15Matt Farah?

What fucking terrible thing has happened today, like?

• 27:18Speaker 01

Do you know, working on that and reading about him, I was re, I was just like, oh my god, he's Elon Musk.

• 27:23Matt Farah?

  Oh, really?

• 27:24Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 27:24Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 27:25Speaker 01

Personality wise and all that stuff, he's totally Elon Musk, yeah.

• 27:27Matt Farah?

There's a lot of them, unfortunately.

• 27:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:30Matt Farah?

  We shouldn't let them have

• 27:32Speaker 01

  Anything?

• 27:33Matt Farah?

  Five hundred billion dollars.

• 27:35Speaker 01

It's so, it's so weird that it, you're just like, just nobody should, I don't care if they're great. Nobody should have that kind of way.

• 27:42Matt Farah?

Yeah. You can't do anything good with it.

• 27:45Speaker 01

It's like, we raise our kids to be like, share.

• 27:48Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:49Speaker 01

No, share with Charlie. And then, and then you get older and like, "Yeah, I gotta keep everything." And it's like, what do you?

• 27:55Speaker 02

Well, some kids probably weren't raised and taught to share.

• 27:57Speaker 01

Yeah, that's true. That's true. Go beat up Frank and take his stuff.

• 28:00Speaker 02

Right. Yeah. Some are like, they're more tan than you, so you should hate them.

• 28:04Matt Farah?

Yeah. You know, like, how, you know how New York bars are open till 4 a.m. and the saying is like, "Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.?"

• 28:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:11Matt Farah?

"Nothing good happens after like, $2 billion."

• 28:14Speaker 01

  Really? No.

• 28:15Matt Farah?

Once you, once you've got the yacht.

• 28:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:17Matt Farah?

  And the plane.

• 28:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:18Matt Farah?

And the fucking house in wherever. You're out of good things.

• 28:23Speaker 01

  That's it. You're done.

• 28:24Matt Farah?

Like, you're, there's no, beyond that, it's governments buying laws.

• 28:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:30Matt Farah?

  Like, that, it's just-

• 28:32Speaker 02

Well, you get bored of whatever you've acquired. You're like, well, what's next? I guess a government?

• 28:36Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 28:36Speaker 02

  I don't know. I can't get hard anymore.

• 28:40Speaker 02

I guess all in any dollar, this is what I was looking for.

• 28:43Matt Farah?

What I really want is to fucking cuck the president in the Oval Office.

• 28:47Speaker 01

  And you can.

• 28:48Matt Farah?

  With a three-quarter length blazer.

• 28:53Speaker 01

Oh my God, when I went, I went to Rome like, last year or somewhere, two years ago, and just seeing those yachts.

• 28:58Matt Farah?

  Mm.

• 28:59Speaker 01

I was like, what in the fuck?

• 29:02Matt Farah?

If you really want to go fucking ballistic, look at the yachts at West Palm Beach in about a five-mile radius of Mar-a-Lago. And it is like, all of the money, evading all of the taxes, they're all, they're all flying like, you know, Cayman Islands registration, like, 350-foot yacht.

• 29:26Speaker 01

All that stuff is not, not, what was it? The Panama, Panama?

• 29:29Speaker 02

  Oh my God.

• 29:29Speaker 01

  Oh my God.

• 29:30Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. There's, there's, uh, and, and, uh, you know, it's, it, it's hard, cause like-

• 29:38Matt Farah?

  You like nice shit?

• 29:39Speaker 01

  Yeah, I like that.

• 29:40Matt Farah?

  I like nice shit.

• 29:40Speaker 01

  We all do.

• 29:41Matt Farah?

  Like, everyone likes nice shit.

• 29:42Speaker 01

  I have nice shit.

• 29:43Matt Farah?

I got some nice shit. Couple night like, and if, if you're, people are out there going, well, I have a, I have a vacation home and a, and a for, I ain't talking about you, you're getting fucked too.

• 29:53Speaker 01

Yeah, you're getting fucked. Yeah, everybody's getting fucked by those guys.

• 29:56Matt Farah?

The level of people below which everyone's getting fucked is pretty goddamn high right now.

• 30:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:03Matt Farah?

  Upper middle is getting fucked.

• 30:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:05Matt Farah?

  Really fucked.

• 30:06Speaker 01

  Yeah, everybody.

• 30:08Matt Farah?

Everyone I know that's like a person who uses their brain for work and isn't self-employed, right now is having a real shitty time.

• 30:16Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. A real shitty time. My, my cousin, uh, works for a state and, uh, uh, fishing, uh, wildlife, you know, and he's like the head. And he said he's getting so many applications.

• 30:32Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 30:32Speaker 01

So many calls, just everybody. It's just like, I need a job.

• 30:37Matt Farah?

  It's bad.

• 30:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:38Matt Farah?

  It's bad.

• 30:39Speaker 01

  It's bad.

• 30:40Matt Farah?

So, yeah, but like, let's let people who think AI will run everything. That's cool.

• 30:46Speaker 01

Isn't it hilarious? Cause you're watching it and you're like, everybody gets, this is a grift, right? Like, it doesn't work? And they're like, we're gonna set it up. And you're like, okay, but it doesn't work.

• 30:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 30:53Speaker 01

We're gonna spend all this money on it, give them money to do the thing that's not real?

• 30:57Matt Farah?

But like, you gotta understand that not working is the best case scenario.

• 31:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:02Matt Farah?

If it works, boy, are we fucked.

• 31:04Speaker 01

Well, that, yeah, a hundred percent.

• 31:05Matt Farah?

As humans. I mean, even, do you listen, do you read or listen to Ed Zitron? Do you know Ed Zitron?

• 31:09Speaker 01

  I know Ed.

• 31:09Matt Farah?

  He's a tech critic?

• 31:10Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 31:11Matt Farah?

  You'd get along with him.

• 31:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:13Matt Farah?

He's basically like, all of this is for nothing.

• 31:16Speaker 01

  All of it's for nothing.

• 31:17Matt Farah?

It's for bots to sell things to other bots and like three people to get rich off this scam.

• 31:21Speaker 01

Yeah, there's another guy, Brian Merchant.

• 31:23Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 31:24Speaker 01

Who wrote for the LA Times, got laid off, probably so they could use AI to write. Uh, but he also did, I think it's called Blood in the Soil, but it's, it's about the Luddites and, and which people think the Luddites were just against.

• 31:37Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's been used, it's been used as like a pejorative.

• 31:39Speaker 01

But they were to keep jobs.

• 31:42Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 31:42Speaker 01

And not lose jobs to tech. Yeah, they like they went way back when that was in England like they when farmers started using equipment and fire them, they went and destroyed the equipment.

• 31:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 31:53Speaker 01

And and people are like, oh, they hate tech. No, they they want jobs.

• 31:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 31:57Speaker 01

  They want to work.

• 31:57Matt Farah?

They don't want to be relegated.

• 31:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 32:00Matt Farah?

As it were. Um, do you, you guys do so many like baseball stories. Obviously, you're like a baseball fan.

• 32:06Speaker 01

  I am.

• 32:06Matt Farah?

I'm not so sure I've heard you do any non-baseball sports stories.

• 32:12Speaker 01

  I haven't.

• 32:14Matt Farah?

  Not a, not a one?

• 32:15Speaker 01

I've considered it, but you know, baseball has a very unique craziness.

• 32:21Matt Farah?

Yeah, I guess so. Total psychopaths can have whole careers.

• 32:25Speaker 01

Yeah, and I, and yes, a hundred percent. The other sport I'd say probably that compares. No, hockey.

• 32:33Matt Farah?

Oh, because they let them fight.

• 32:34Speaker 01

They let them fight and there's just a lot of Canadian, but again, it's Canada.

• 32:38Matt Farah?

You should probably, I mean, I'm gonna be the guy. You've seen the the Danbury Trashers documentary?

• 32:45Speaker 01

  No.

• 32:45Matt Farah?

My favorite sports documentary of all time.

• 32:48Speaker 01

  Is it football?

• 32:49Matt Farah?

  No, no, it's hockey.

• 32:50Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 32:50Matt Farah?

  It's a mobster in Connecticut.

• 32:53Speaker 01

  I've heard about this.

• 32:54Matt Farah?

Buys a hockey team for his son.

• 32:56Speaker 01

  Yeah, I've heard about this.

• 32:57Matt Farah?

It's batshit. The documentary is, you're gonna piss yourself laughing. It's crazy.

• 33:01Speaker 01

  Okay, okay.

• 33:02Matt Farah?

Imagine a hockey team was run like an actual mob.

• 33:05Speaker 02

Right. The kid's in high school and his dad, his dad goes, you're in charge, for real.

• 33:09Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 33:10Speaker 02

Yeah, and all the kid wanted was a hug.

• 33:12Matt Farah?

And you know how, and you know how like every hockey team has an enforcer?

• 33:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:17Matt Farah?

This kid got six enforcers stolen.

• 33:19Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 33:21Matt Farah?

And there are all these like Goomba guys and they go, you look up at the box, Jimmy gives the nod, we drop the gloves. Like, it's fucking crazy.

• 33:28Speaker 02

They get cash payments for fighting.

• 33:30Speaker 01

  That's amazing.

• 33:31Speaker 02

Yeah, the doc is insane. Like, that's a story and you could probably cover it also.

• 33:35Speaker 01

As long as Gareth hasn't seen it, because sometimes I told him, I think he can't watch any from history.

• 33:39Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:40Speaker 01

  He, he might have did.

• 33:41Speaker 02

He just sits in a box uninformed, waiting, waiting for you to tell him what's going on.

• 33:46Speaker 01

Eh, he, because he, he loves documentaries, which is really.

• 33:49Matt Farah?

That's a problem for you guys, oh shit.

• 33:51Speaker 01

So there's ones I'm just like, you can't watch that. You're not allowed.

• 33:53Matt Farah?

You can watch this, but you must eat 50 milligrams of cannabis so you don't remember any of it.

• 33:58Speaker 02

That would work. So why do you think baseball has a unique?

• 34:02Speaker 01

Well, it's very American, right? I mean, it's super American. But it really did attract, back in the day, it really attracted these crazy guys. There's something about baseball that's not football, which is, it's perfection. You almost have to have this strive for perfection, because you're hitting a ball and you're throwing a ball and you're doing these things that every moment is like, oh, if I tweak this a tiny bit, it'll do that. And that's not really how it is in the other sports. Maybe golf, it's like that, but you're really just making little tweaks over ages.

• 34:41Speaker 01

So like my son, we've been working with a coach on his swing for about nine months. And now, in the past couple of weeks, we're starting to see it pay off. But that was nine months of, okay, do this, okay, now do this, okay, now do this. And it's just little tweak after little tweak. And so I think that's just a very sort of odd individual that wants to do that or is capable or is interested. I think it's a different human being.

• 35:11Matt Farah?

What you've just described is very similar to golf, but you definitely won't find as many lunatics.

• 35:17Speaker 01

  No, you won't, but-

• 35:18Matt Farah?

But John Daly- John Daly? I highly recommend-

• 35:21Speaker 01

  Yeah, John Daly.

• 35:22Matt Farah?

My dad played around with John Daly, which I caddied for. Because I was like fifteen, and it was one of those charity pro-am deals.

• 35:29Speaker 01

  Was he already in his-

• 35:30Matt Farah?

He was sober during that period. So he drank eighteen Diet Cokes, ate six bags of M&M's and smoked two packs of cigarettes in eighteen holes of golf. And fucking was one of the funniest people you've ever fucking met. He was out of his mind and he played the cra- he played like serious Happy Gilmore golf. He'd hit his drive like four hundred yards onto the wrong hole.

• 35:58Speaker 01

  Oh, beautiful.

• 35:59Matt Farah?

And then hit a nine iron, you know, fifty percent longer than you've ever seen someone hit a nine iron, over a fucking forest to like three feet from the hole and then one putt and be like, "That was alright, that was alright." And just light up another cigarette, "Hey, pass me, throw me Diet Coke there, man."

• 36:17Matt Farah?

His story like the his roller coaster of bankruptcy win bankruptcy win is crazy.

• 36:22Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's really crazy.

• 36:23Matt Farah?

Yeah, and like his his Instagram is I mean, he's mag as fuck, but I don't care because he is hilarious.

• 36:32Speaker 01

  Yeah, he is hilarious. Yeah.

• 36:33Matt Farah?

I mean, dude, there's a fucking amazing video of this dude rolling up like five minutes before his tea time of a tournament. No warm up, puffing a fucking heater on the first tee, throws it down, first swing, three fifty dollar.

• 36:52Matt Farah?

And like Tiger's got to stretch for like an hour and a half.

• 36:58Speaker 01

It's so great. I mean, that's like actually what's wrong with sports is like those guys are kind of all gone. It's so corporate and professional now.

• 37:06Matt Farah?

This is what they say about racing drivers.

• 37:07Speaker 01

  Oh, they do. Yeah.

• 37:08Matt Farah?

They manage their own social media now, so they can't be crazy. They gotta be marketable.

• 37:12Speaker 01

Because, yeah, it's all gone. Yeah, but it's it.

• 37:15Speaker 02

Well, everyone turned into Tiger Woods. Everyone got perfect because they saw the money that's there. So racing, anything. You can't be the James Hunt fuck around, jump in the car and kind of do pretty well because there's 15 people that have focused and done nothing else. And then they're perfect.

• 37:28Speaker 01

I did a commercial with Jimmy Johnson.

• 37:31Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah.

• 37:31Speaker 01

And his uh his chief guy, the guy who got in trouble for the cheating, basically. Um, it was right before that, like like three months before he got caught, but it was at Daytona and uh.

• 37:45Matt Farah?

I met Jimmy once. He was lovely.

• 37:47Speaker 01

I would. Yeah, he was great. Those guys are great, but I I got to be like the the crew guy who who was a little too excited that they won.

• 37:54Matt Farah?

  Oh, God.

• 37:55Speaker 01

Uh, that's fun. Those guys, those guys are fun, but that that isn't that what they people said about him was he got too corporate too like.

• 38:02Matt Farah?

Oh, you do 90s NASCAR? That's a good time.

• 38:05Speaker 01

  Right?

• 38:06Matt Farah?

  80s, 90s was insanity.

• 38:07Speaker 01

It's it's very sad because I've always been a huge baseball guy and I don't watch MLB anymore because I just think it's just been.

• 38:13Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 38:14Speaker 01

It's been ruined. I just think it's been ruined. It's just so boring. And I know people think the home runs are exciting. It's like it's less action.

• 38:20Matt Farah?

I went to the I went to a Dodgers game that was in early in the season, right after they changed the rules and added the pitch clock and shit. I guess it was two seasons ago or something. And the whole game took like an hour or less.

• 38:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:31Matt Farah?

And I was actually like, oh, ah, it's pretty cool. That worked.

• 38:34Speaker 01

So I have I have I have my theory on that is.

• 38:39Speaker 01

Capitalism has been trying, it's seeking profit everywhere. So the players are seeking profit. And the way to get profit is to hit home runs.

• 38:47Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 38:48Speaker 01

Not bunt, not do the things that you used to do, which was just get on base and get dirty, get into second and third and maybe steal home. It's all been kind of weeded out and then, and then they moved the fences in and they did all this stuff and they slowly sort of made the game more boring.

• 39:03Matt Farah?

By making it home run derby?

• 39:05Speaker 01

Yeah. And so, so then they have to, then they have to do something about that because now a game that used to be three and a half hours that could have been amazing is now boring. So you have to make the game shorter because it's less exciting. There's just not that much attention. It's now, it's now, it's the three things were just strikeout, homerun and walk.

• 39:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 39:27Speaker 01

So, and so they've just been seeking profit every little place they can. And they're also trying to bring in the gambling, which.

• 39:34Matt Farah?

Yeah, I just, everything is kind of gambling now.

• 39:38Speaker 01

Hey, that's why they're doing that. They're going to change it to robot umpires because then people will be able to gamble on every pitch. And it won't have the human element. It'll be, yes, that's, so it's just for gambling addicts.

• 39:49Matt Farah?

Hold for Elon to step in and go, I'll have Optimus robots ready for home plate umpire.

• 39:55Speaker 02

There was, there was an umpire that retired last year and he was notorious for bad calls. Right.

• 39:59Speaker 01

  Angel Hernandez.

• 40:00Speaker 02

You know who I'm talking about. So.

• 40:01Speaker 01

  The worst umpire ever.

• 40:02Speaker 02

Do you think that like our robot umpire is a good idea because then it sets a standard and there's none of that like, what the fuck was that call?

• 40:09Speaker 01

Okay, so, so, so baseball, which has been very good for my son because my son always been very much a perfectionist. So he has to learn that life isn't perfect. And they also have to learn like sometimes there's a wrong call and you lose and you go home because that's what life is.

• 40:27Matt Farah?

Well, and also the human element.

• 40:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 40:31Matt Farah?

  Of everything.

• 40:32Speaker 01

  Everything.

• 40:33Matt Farah?

Is typically the most important part of any of those things.

• 40:37Speaker 01

  A hundred percent.

• 40:38Matt Farah?

  Food, music, anything.

• 40:40Speaker 01

So they're taking the human element out of baseball. So Angel Hernandez, even though he drives you crazy, that's better for us as people and it's better for certainly kids growing up to know like you don't always win. Everything isn't always right. That's kind of nature.

• 40:57Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 40:57Speaker 01

And so that's being taken out and, and you're, it's, you're going to have people.

• 41:04Speaker 01

Growing up in this robotic age that are sort of unable to handle reality and nature, what throws at them, which is you don't always win. Sometimes you just get screwed. Sometimes you just get screwed.

• 41:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, and just like, think about music, or food, or car, like, in the world of cars, the best, most expensive cars are the ones that are the most handmade. The most desirable cars.

• 41:28Speaker 01

Yeah, and the ones that are spit out.

• 41:30Matt Farah?

The ones that are the most machine-made are the cheapest, you know, injection molded plastic and cheap disposable junk.

• 41:36Speaker 02

Yeah, but those to me are more like on the art side, like music, food, it's more of a subjective thing, whereas with baseball, like, we know there's a strike zone, but then if a umpire calls something that's outside it as inside or vice versa, you go, well, that's that's being subjective in what should be an objective moment.

• 41:54Matt Farah?

Right, but like, the emotions that come as a fan from an umpire being an element that's out of your control is good, is what you're saying.

• 42:04Speaker 01

I'm saying that overall, it's better for society

• 42:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 42:07Speaker 01

to have things that aren't perfect and for you to accept them.

• 42:12Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 42:13Speaker 01

So, yeah, so I think it's bad for the game also because because I think it's bad for, I think it's bad for pitchers. It's, we're creating this perfection thing where they have, now they have to hit that zone. Now they really have to hit that zone, and if they don't, whereas what, sometimes you can live on the outside corner, sometimes you can live an inch or two off the strike zone, and you're, that's, that's who you are as a pitcher.

• 42:41Matt Farah?

I mean, in theory, if you're very good, you should be doing that a lot.

• 42:45Speaker 01

  Right.

• 42:46Matt Farah?

That's like the point of pitching.

• 42:48Speaker 01

Like, I tell my, so, at like, at my son's level, so he's JB, so it's fifteen and a half. All the time, you get rung up because there's a pitch that's two inches outside. And that's light, you have to learn how to deal with that.

• 43:01Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 43:01Speaker 01

And so he recently, I've been like, you gotta hit the low outside stuff, so we go in the backyard, and I built him a cage, and I just do low outside stuff, and he goes up and, he goes up and it's a walk-off with the low outside stuff. He adapted to it, instead of like, well, the world has to be perfect, that's gotta come to me.

• 43:18Speaker 02

  Right, that's a good point.

• 43:19Speaker 01

Doesn't have to come to you.

• 43:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 43:20Speaker 01

  Doesn't at all.

• 43:21Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 43:23Matt Farah?

As, as someone who basically was saying for two years before Trump got re-elected that that was going to happen.

• 43:31Matt Farah?

You called it. I hope you're happy, uh, cause you called it. Nice job. You and Sarah Kenzie were very right about that. Uh, I hope it feels good.

• 43:43Speaker 01

Mark Maron sent me a text. Everybody's like, well, I hope you're happy. I'm like, I'm not, no!

• 43:50Matt Farah?

I love Mark Maron. Please tell him that the Smoke and Tire Podcast loves Mark Maron. If we can talk to him for an hour, I would be eternally grateful. Not, I'm not asking, by the way, but he, we are both big fans and he is, he's fucking stand up. I mean, like literally, figuratively, and whatever the third way is, I'm saying something.

• 44:07Speaker 01

He, he figured out how to do stand up. He took it to the, I, cause I think a lot of standups are very bad now, cause it's sort of lazy and they're watching online and doing stuff that's not great.

• 44:16Matt Farah?

Instagram clip optimized stand up? Yuck.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  Oh, so bad.

• 44:20Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's not good.

• 44:22Speaker 01

But Mark took it to the next level. He did. He figured out how to make his philosophy and what he sees.

• 44:28Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 44:29Speaker 01

Put it into his comedy and make it funny. And most people can't do that.

• 44:32Matt Farah?

  His last special ruled.

• 44:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 44:34Matt Farah?

  It was so, so good.

• 44:35Speaker 01

Yeah, great. And, and Eddie Pepitone too would be the two guys.

• 44:38Matt Farah?

Oh dude, Eddie, so our friend, one of my good friends, Christian Hand, who is a fabulous radio DJ, you'd like him a lot. And he does more than that, but he hired Eddie Pepitone to roast him for his 50th birthday.

• 44:52Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 44:53Matt Farah?

At the Bourbon Room. In front of 300 people. And Eddie Pepitone, you know, for 400 bucks and three beers, fucking wrecked him.

• 45:04Speaker 01

  I can imagine.

• 45:05Matt Farah?

It was so awesome. He destroyed.

• 45:07Speaker 01

He'd be so good at that.

• 45:08Matt Farah?

He absolutely was so awesome. I love that guy.

• 45:11Speaker 01

So you know how they do roasts on like Comedy Central and stuff? So in the old days, like roasts were like Dean Martin and these guys, and they were all friends. And then they roast someone that they all knew.

• 45:21Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 45:21Speaker 01

And then you watch the Comedy Central ones and it's like a bunch of comedians that are kind of famous roast a guy that nobody knows. But if you took it and you had Eddie's gonna be here every roast. And he's gonna be roasting Mark Maron or whatever, people that they knew, it would be a thousand times better.

• 45:39Matt Farah?

It would. Yeah, it would just be him. I would just listen to him yelling. You don't just show him pictures of people. Here you go.

• 45:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:46Matt Farah?

Next. Yeah. He was fucking hilarious, that guy. I loved him.

• 45:49Speaker 01

  He's so funny.

• 45:49Matt Farah?

  National treasure.

• 45:50Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:52Matt Farah?

So anyway, as someone who fucking saw it all coming. Your level of despair is...

• 46:01Speaker 01

  Sinism?

• 46:02Matt Farah?

Oh, cynicism, is that a what right now? What... Or what year in Germany's history are we reliving?

• 46:12Speaker 01

I mean, it's hard to say because that was such a different...

• 46:17Speaker 01

So, Germany had a terrible economy.

• 46:20Matt Farah?

It's more, the comparison's much more with like Russia than the other ones than it is Germany.

• 46:24Speaker 01

  Or Argentina.

• 46:25Matt Farah?

It's trying to say Germany, yeah.

• 46:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, so...

• 46:28Matt Farah?

The president did a meme coin. The day before inauguration day. An hour before. They, even fucking eight years ago, he had to open a hotel.

• 46:38Speaker 01

  Right.

• 46:39Matt Farah?

He had to pay people to clean it and cook there. You had to book a room and use a business that employed people in order to bribe the president.

• 46:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:49Matt Farah?

  Now...

• 46:49Speaker 01

  Straight up.

• 46:50Matt Farah?

  Straight up!

• 46:51Speaker 01

  You want some money?

• 46:52Matt Farah?

Yeah! Just bought, just bought 80,000 hashtag Trump. What does that get me? A pipeline somewhere? Can I get an ambassador or something?

• 47:03Speaker 01

Yeah, it's, uh, yeah, it's crazy to watch. I mean, and then, and then Elon was, uh, he was done. He, the SEC and the Department of Justice were cracking... That's why he bought the presidency because he's done. I mean, I'm sure you know all about his company, but...

• 47:20Matt Farah?

  Oh, yes, too much.

• 47:22Speaker 01

Yeah, he is toast. And, and as a matter of fact, I didn't know how bad Tesla's were until I started following guys like you and other guys on Twitter.

• 47:30Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 47:31Speaker 01

  Follow Tesla.

• 47:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 47:32Speaker 01

And they'd be like, "No, this is how it's built and this is what's wrong with it." And it's, and then he does the cyber tracking and you're just like...

• 47:39Matt Farah?

  Which is like...

• 47:39Speaker 01

Which is like the Ugo of fucking electric cars.

• 47:42Matt Farah?

  Really bad, yeah.

• 47:44Speaker 01

It's really, like, you see all the videos and you're like, "Oh, you can just peel it back with your hands."

• 47:49Matt Farah?

Wait, you've glued together raw stainless steel? Like, what the fuck? Like, yeah, like no DeLorean lessons were learned at all.

• 47:58Speaker 01

  None.

• 47:58Matt Farah?

There's a lot of lessons in the DeLorean.

• 48:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:01Matt Farah?

You have to try to learn none of them.

• 48:03Speaker 01

  Right?

• 48:03Matt Farah?

Like, he, Elon Musk tries so hard to not learn things and then when he learns them, after he's fucking bungled around for a while, he treats it like a fucking revelation.

• 48:16Speaker 01

That's right. That's exactly what he does.

• 48:18Matt Farah?

  It's insanity.

• 48:19Speaker 01

And you're like, "No, we already knew this."

• 48:20Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 48:21Speaker 01

They've been making cars for a long time.

• 48:23Matt Farah?

  You invented a subway!

• 48:26Matt Farah?

  Where they drive cars?

• 48:28Speaker 01

I mean, I literally I fell out of my chair when I saw the completed

• 48:33Matt Farah?

  The Vegas thing?

• 48:35Speaker 01

Like, I was just like, how is this? You've actually set tunnels back.

• 48:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You made a worse tunnel.

• 48:44Speaker 01

  You made bad tunnels.

• 48:45Matt Farah?

And it's the self-driving car can't drive in without humans or other cars or anything. The car you're telling me will drive itself

• 48:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:57Matt Farah?

can't drive itself in a tunnel you built

• 49:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:01Matt Farah?

for that car to drive in.

• 49:02Speaker 01

Where there's a stoplight that you have to wait four minutes for.

• 49:06Matt Farah?

  So crazy.

• 49:07Speaker 01

Like, when I was a kid, there was a up in the Marin Highlands, there was a tunnel that was a one it had to switch, it's one lane, and you sit there for eight minutes waiting for that. And that's what he built, and that was like something they got rid of years ago.

• 49:19Matt Farah?

  You chose that.

• 49:22Matt Farah?

That's what we do with tunnels that were built in the 1800s that we still need. You know?

• 49:26Speaker 02

It's an amazing distraction from high-speed rail in California.

• 49:29Speaker 01

I mean, that's all he's doing, right? He's just trying to get everybody away from high-speed rail because he wants to make his money. It's, his company, like, like I said, when I was talking to that guy that, that, uh, private equity guy, who, all he, he's so irritated because he just wants to focus on EVs. And he's like, 20% of my time is making up reports for the company about this fucking idiot.

• 49:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 49:54Speaker 01

And just how dumb he is.

• 49:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 49:57Speaker 01

And then, and then reading, I mean, I'm sure you've seen the screenshots of like guys who were there when they were building the car and like on, on the, the, uh...

• 50:05Matt Farah?

Yeah, we get, we get anonymous messages a lot.

• 50:08Speaker 01

  I mean, it's just unbelievable.

• 50:10Matt Farah?

  It's scary stuff.

• 50:10Speaker 01

It's scary. Like, those cars are legitimately scary.

• 50:13Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 50:14Speaker 01

Uh, so why do we get on Tesla?

• 50:16Matt Farah?

Well, because, because, listen, I get told all the fucking time, stick to cars. Well, guess what? Cars came to you, motherfucker. I'm sticking to cars. He should have stuck to fucking cars. I didn't give two fucks about Elon Musk in 2014 when he was a guy who made cars. But now, he needs to own the fucking universe because nobody likes him.

• 50:38Speaker 01

Nobody likes him, but also like, stick to cars. Do you remember Ford?

• 50:42Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 50:42Speaker 01

Like, I'm sorry, but that guy was spreading his antisemitism all over the country. There is no sticking to cars when rich people get money from cars.

• 50:50Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. To do crazy fucking shit. Was it the International Jew? Is it called the Problematic Jew? The Something Jew?

• 50:58Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 50:58Matt Farah?

  Was Henry Ford's newspaper?

• 51:00Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 51:01Matt Farah?

That nobody really likes to talk about. You know about Fordlandia, right?

• 51:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, I know about Fordlandia.

• 51:05Matt Farah?

  Fuck yeah.

• 51:05Speaker 01

  The International Jew.

• 51:06Matt Farah?

The International Jew. Yes, the International Jew!

• 51:10Speaker 01

  Four volumes.

• 51:11Matt Farah?

Sorry, I think I just did a Jon Stewart.

• 51:13Speaker 01

I mean, yeah, it was just the Ford. The Ford just, you know, it's just a Nazi guy, that's all.

• 51:18Matt Farah?

  It's parallel paths, though.

• 51:19Speaker 01

  It is very parallel.

• 51:20Matt Farah?

  It's parallel paths, for sure.

• 51:22Speaker 01

That's one thing I wanted to ask you about. It's like, car guys, like, this is, it's now a thing. Like, there's two guys. Is it just, just the fact?

• 51:32Matt Farah?

Do you mean Ford and Musk?

• 51:33Speaker 01

Well, is it, yeah, is it just the fact that, that in capitalism, and even the, even the private equity guy I talked to said this, like, capital, that sometimes it does reward complete and total psychopaths.

• 51:43Matt Farah?

It's not, and the, and the fact that Ford and Musk are cars is, I think, a coincidence. I don't think it's, I don't think it's, well, running a car company makes you megalomaniacal. Like, no. I think there's lots of, like, fairly normal people that do those jobs. But, and it was when Ford got too goddamn rich and started thinking that it was like, um, like prosperity gospel shit. I'm rich, therefore I'm virtuous, therefore everyone else should live like I want them to live.

• 52:12Speaker 01

Yeah. Like, I clearly know what I'm doing. I've made all the money.

• 52:15Matt Farah?

Yes. Michigan-style houses will work in the Brazilian rainforest. I swear!

• 52:25Speaker 01

Well, that's what Musk is trying to do. Now he wants to remake America in whatever image he has in his head. And everything he's touched is just, it's garbage. I'm like, I get it. You like it. It's garbage. He makes garbage. He buys it, actually, and then he turns it into garbage.

• 52:39Matt Farah?

It would be one thing if it was actually... I understand someone who says, "Let's bring in an efficiency expert to look at our software systems."

• 52:51Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 52:51Matt Farah?

What evidence is there that he is a fucking efficiency expert?

• 52:55Speaker 01

  None, none.

• 52:56Matt Farah?

None of the shit he makes turns a profit?

• 52:58Speaker 01

No. Yeah, and you're also talking about a guy that has made all of his money from the government.

• 53:02Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 53:03Speaker 01

He's made his fortune from the government, so you want him to go in and be efficient? Well, he's the problem. Like, he's the guy sucking all the government's money.

• 53:11Matt Farah?

Don't worry. No, he will see after his own conflicts, they said so, and they should be taken, uh, honestly.

• 53:18Speaker 01

Do you get really mad Tesla owners?

• 53:21Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. I, yes, I did. I do, I do.

• 53:24Speaker 01

Do you feel like it's going away a little bit?

• 53:26Matt Farah?

I feel like the mask is off. I feel like, I feel like I don't have to convince people so much anymore that this is a bad person. Even though we knew he was a bad person for a very long time.

• 53:36Speaker 01

But what about a bad car?

• 53:38Matt Farah?

Oh, we've been saying they're, I mean, look, so we've reviewed all the cars they make.

• 53:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:42Matt Farah?

  Some are better than others.

• 53:44Speaker 01

Like the Y is good, right?

• 53:45Matt Farah?

The newest Model Y and the newest Model 3 are, they're fine.

• 53:49Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 53:50Matt Farah?

They're fine. There are better cars, there are worse cars.

• 53:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 53:53Matt Farah?

The Cybertruck, forget what you think about him or the company, the quality of that automobile for the price it costs is horrifying.

• 54:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:02Matt Farah?

  Absolutely horrifying.

• 54:03Speaker 01

And that's essentially the first car that he on his own created.

• 54:08Matt Farah?

  The restraints were off.

• 54:09Speaker 01

Yeah, the other ones were created by the guys, like, that was already in motion to build that car.

• 54:13Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 54:13Speaker 01

He came in afterwards, bought it. So this is his first...

• 54:17Matt Farah?

Well, look, he oversaw the company during Model S, Model X, Model 3.

• 54:21Speaker 01

But weren't they already in motion?

• 54:23Matt Farah?

No, no, he came in before that. He came in when there was just a roadster. When it was just that. So like, I'm not, I'm not saying that he has accomplished nothing.

• 54:31Speaker 01

  Right.

• 54:31Matt Farah?

But I'm just saying that like, when they were building nice, regular, electric cars, okay, we can talk about whether or not those cars are as efficient as they say, or as safe as they say.

• 54:42Speaker 01

  And they're not.

• 54:43Matt Farah?

And they're not. And they're not. That's the answer, they're not. And they, but they do have some positive qualities. Some.

• 54:50Speaker 01

Yes, I agree with that. The first time I got into Y, I was like, well, this is fun.

• 54:53Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's got a very low cowl. The dash height, which gives you great visibility. Almost like, like the McLaren. The low dash, I love that. The greenhouse is great, like, there's stuff to like there. But then he started telling people that the cars were gonna drive themselves. And it was so obviously a fucking lie from day one.

• 55:13Speaker 01

It's like saying we're going to Mars in like, whatever, five years. It's crazy.

• 55:16Matt Farah?

But, but cars driving themselves is my goddamn world.

• 55:18Speaker 01

  Yeah, right.

• 55:19Matt Farah?

And I ride around the city on a Vespa. And if there's a hundred thousand fucking Teslas here, and half of them think the car's gonna drive themselves, and I'm there on my motorcycle. And that problem has just landed on my door.

• 55:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:29Matt Farah?

So, that was where, in 2016, when he said, "This car, you buy it today, it will drive itself", was such a flagrant lie.

• 55:37Speaker 01

  And yet, people are stupid.

• 55:40Matt Farah?

I mean, they're dying. Yeah, they're also dying, yeah. Have you seen, um, Tesla porn? Have you seen Tesla porn?

• 55:49Speaker 01

  Oh, no.

• 55:50Matt Farah?

They're fucking, uh, in the Tesla on the highway.

• 55:54Speaker 02

I knew they did that years ago.

• 55:55Matt Farah?

  It's FSD Bang Bus.

• 55:56Speaker 01

  While it's driving?

• 55:57Matt Farah?

  FSD Bang Bus, yeah, yeah.

• 55:59Speaker 01

  Oh, god.

• 55:59Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Imagine being ejected from a Cybertruck.

• 56:05Matt Farah?

  Naked.

• 56:05Speaker 02

  Maintain your insertion, though.

• 56:08Speaker 01

Yeah, you gotta, you gotta finish before you die. Just imagine, right when you hit the ground, coming.

• 56:14Speaker 02

  You'll chase that high forever.

• 56:18Speaker 02

Adrenaline, fear, and orgasm all at once? You'll pay good money for that.

• 56:24Speaker 02

Your character on Maron kinda chased that. I remember that scene.

• 56:27Matt Farah?

Fox News at 11, you won't believe what teams are doing with their Teslas.

• 56:34Speaker 02

  It's called cyber trucking.

• 56:38Matt Farah?

  God damn.

• 56:39Speaker 01

It's, it's, it's crazy. I rented one, a three, just to be like, okay, like, I want to see. And you had already told me about the mileage thing, so I knew that was, but I was actually shocked that it got less miles on a charge than my, my Kona.

• 56:57Matt Farah?

Yeah, they, well, there's different ways of measuring range and the Teslas are optimistic.

• 57:02Speaker 02

They measure from behind the balls, that's why.

• 57:07Speaker 01

And people think it's great, but all the, I've, I've, I really think the first time you get an electric car, you're like, wow, it's a totally different experience, right? And, you know, as much as I love a Mustang, like, the gas mileage is insane.

• 57:23Speaker 01

When you get behind the wheel of an electric, you're like, this is nothing I've ever experienced. And so I think a lot of people, their first time in electric cars is a Tesla, and so they're like, no, it's the Tesla, and you're like, no, it's not.

• 57:34Matt Farah?

A hundred percent. Tesla has a 20-year first mover advantage on that one specific fact.

• 57:39Speaker 01

  Right.

• 57:40Matt Farah?

  It will run out eventually.

• 57:41Speaker 01

  It is.

• 57:42Matt Farah?

It is running out. Well, the more Sig Hiles he does, it drops three percentage points per Sig Hile.

• 57:47Speaker 01

What's happening in Europe is crazy.

• 57:48Speaker 02

  Sales down 60%, 80%.

• 57:51Matt Farah?

They know what a protest over there.

• 57:52Speaker 01

No, no, Fran, like France dropped like 70% or something. It's like, yeah, of course they are, it's France.

• 57:57Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 57:58Speaker 02

Germany, Norway, I mean, all of those countries, everyone just went, oh, no, thank you. I mean, those are huge numbers.

• 58:04Matt Farah?

But, but, I mean, Teslas are for people that hate their car and love their phone, and want their car to be more like their phone.

• 58:10Speaker 01

That's right. But it's, but it sucks, like, so I have the Ioniq 6, and it, to me, it's like, well, this is what people want in a Tesla.

• 58:19Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 58:20Speaker 01

But it's got all the stuff that you also want, which is buttons and...

• 58:22Matt Farah?

Yeah, I just had, I had the Ford Mach-E, or Mustang, you mentioned Mustang, I had the electric one.

• 58:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 58:27Matt Farah?

It was like a Model Y that was built properly.

• 58:30Speaker 01

  Right.

• 58:30Matt Farah?

  Basically.

• 58:30Speaker 01

Yeah, everyone I've talked to that has that car loved it.

• 58:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, they're good. And now I have the Taycan, the electric Porsche, which I bought used for half price.

• 58:37Speaker 01

  Oh, you did?

• 58:38Matt Farah?

Yeah, they depreciate like fucking crazy. I stole it.

• 58:40Speaker 01

  They really do.

• 58:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's awesome.

• 58:41Speaker 01

Like, I bought this new, but... I don't think anybody should buy a new electric car. There's so many electric cars out there.

• 58:47Matt Farah?

The value in used EVs right now and they're giving away warranties. I got four year unlimited mile warranty on a Porsche. Used on a two year old Porsche.

• 58:56Speaker 01

  That's awesome.

• 58:56Matt Farah?

  Awesome. Yeah.

• 58:57Speaker 01

For me, the reason I bought this is because the technologically it's where I want it to be. And the used ones didn't have what I was looking for.

• 59:07Matt Farah?

The tough part about a used EV is especially first gen stuff is it's not updatable, the same way. Most of the newest stuff is going to be at least partially updatable.

• 59:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:17Matt Farah?

With so, you know, but software defined vehicles.

• 59:20Speaker 01

Yeah, because I was looking at the Ford truck and that and most of the, most of the used ones are at two 10 miles. It's just like, yeah, I can't.

• 59:27Matt Farah?

No, you want big battery unfortunately.

• 59:29Speaker 01

Yeah, I want to go three plus.

• 59:30Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 59:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 59:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah, I get it.

• 59:32Speaker 01

  You get it.

• 59:33Matt Farah?

  Baseball dad.

• 59:33Speaker 01

  But I still.

• 59:34Matt Farah?

  You gotta do away games.

• 59:35Speaker 01

Away games, you gotta drive ways, but I still love a, I have a big engine, man.

• 59:40Matt Farah?

You're allowed. I mean, I think, one of the things I talked to like Alyssa Walker, you know Alyssa Walker? She writes about urbanism for like Slate and stuff. She's awesome.

• 59:50Speaker 01

  Okay, yeah.

• 59:50Matt Farah?

Um, and David Zipper, who also writes for like Vulture and Bloomberg and about urbanism. One of the things like I try to like bridge the gap between urbanists and car enthusiasts because it's like there's a big difference between car enthusiasm and car dependency.

• 1:00:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:04Matt Farah?

Car enthusiasts and urbanists want the same thing. Which is, I said, I was going to defend why I built this place to store rich people's shit.

• 1:00:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:11Matt Farah?

It's basically so that the rich people can continue to live in the walkable areas near the beach and collect cars without having to move to Calabasas or something where there's more space.

• 1:00:21Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:00:22Matt Farah?

So we have a very high density solution, but most of our clients are like right here and live in a townhouse or something and then so they can, so anyway.

• 1:00:29Speaker 01

Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense.

• 1:00:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:33Matt Farah?

We got a bunch on the Patreon. How are we doing on that? Do we have questions from fans? How are you on time? Okay?

• 1:00:37Speaker 01

  I'm fine.

• 1:00:38Matt Farah?

  Baseball practice?

• 1:00:39Speaker 01

No, no baseball practice. It's, it's, uh, it's Friday.

• 1:00:42Matt Farah?

Uh, I see. I, I should have known Friday was not baseball practice.

• 1:00:47Matt Farah?

  Where did you surf today?

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

  I surfed at Bolsa.

• 1:00:50Matt Farah?

  Where's Bolsa?

• 1:00:51Speaker 01

  Bolsa is Shein Shell Beach.

• 1:00:53Matt Farah?

  I tell, I keep going.

• 1:00:55Speaker 01

So it's basically right when you, it's south, south of, south of Long Beach.

• 1:00:59Matt Farah?

  Oh, okay.

• 1:00:59Speaker 01

It's kind of right where you get to Orange County. It's a really long beach. It used to be great. The storms hit two years ago, made it terrible for surfing. It's making a comeback.

• 1:01:08Matt Farah?

Okay, cuz I know you're not supposed to go in the ocean here still, right?

• 1:01:12Speaker 01

Yeah, no way. I wouldn't go. I think that's gonna be years.

• 1:01:14Matt Farah?

  You think so?

• 1:01:15Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's heavy metals.

• 1:01:16Speaker 02

Dude, I used to live in Santa Monica and an old neighbor of ours sent a video of like scooping the water that's coming out of that river. It is black.

• 1:01:24Matt Farah?

  What?

• 1:01:25Speaker 02

The water coming out of the river into the ocean was black and then they scooped up the ocean water and there are flakes, like cereal flakes, of just black stuff that's just floating all over. This was five days ago?

• 1:01:38Speaker 01

Oh my god. I mean, I saw people putting up videos of their surfing. They're like, hey, no one's at Malibu. And I'm like, yeah, cuz you're gonna die.

• 1:01:45Matt Farah?

  Holy shit.

• 1:01:46Speaker 01

Welcome to cancer. Like, you're in Love Canal. That's what you're surfing in. Like, what are you doing?

• 1:01:50Matt Farah?

Dude, my old man used to water ski in the Hudson River in the late 1970s.

• 1:01:56Speaker 02

  He never gets sick?

• 1:01:56Speaker 01

That's like water skiing in mercury.

• 1:01:58Matt Farah?

  Yeah. I can't believe he's alive.

• 1:02:02Speaker 02

That third army has its convenience. That is helpful.

• 1:02:04Speaker 01

  He's like the Simpsons fish.

• 1:02:06Speaker 02

  Yes. Amazing for a religion.

• 1:02:08Matt Farah?

He hasn't taken his shirt off in a really long time. Quanno growing in there.

• 1:02:12Speaker 02

He's got the total recall guy.

• 1:02:16Matt Farah?

Uh, if you wanna ask questions of us, of our guests, if you wanna catch the live stream, if you wanna get the show before everybody else and/or without advertisements, patreon.com/thesmogontirepodcast is where one were to do it. Ted Theo Logan says, "Talk about walkable cities and the 15-minute city specifically, concept being everything necessary within a 15-minute walk from home." You're pro-urbanism, I imagine?

• 1:02:40Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't know why you wouldn't want that, just from convenience. And the places they've done it, like, you know, Barcelona's got places like that. Everybody loves it.

• 1:02:48Matt Farah?

Even here, we got Culver City.

• 1:02:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:02:49Matt Farah?

Um, Playa Vista right here. I mean, Playa Vista's a little more like, you know, gentrified development than you'd probably want, but same idea.

• 1:02:57Speaker 01

Same idea. If you've been to Europe and you go to like cities in, say, Sicily, everyone comes out on a Friday night and Saturday night and everyone hangs out in the town center and you know each other and you create a community and you get to hang out and... It makes for a better society.

• 1:03:15Matt Farah?

  It does.

• 1:03:15Speaker 01

And then also, if everything's there, who wants to get in their car and drive to Target fifteen minutes away? When you can walk down the street and get something, it's just better and easier.

• 1:03:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:27Speaker 01

And I don't know why people hate it. I think it's weird. No one's taking your car away. You can get in your car and drive.

• 1:03:31Matt Farah?

Yeah. People who live in European cities also own a car that they use to leave the city. They just don't use it for everything.

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

It's okay to not use a car for everything. I get for some people, like, I can't imagine it because I have four kids and whatever. Like, okay, but those people also manage it. It's it's better. I just think it's better for us as people. It'll make us feel better about how we're living and it's community. And we don't have community here.

• 1:03:58Matt Farah?

I just, I think the the the way we're doing it with the big boulevards, optimizing cars, really optimizing single-family homes and sprawl, combined with where we're at digitally.

• 1:04:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:11Matt Farah?

The isolation, I think the way to combat the digital isolation is with physical interaction.

• 1:04:17Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:04:18Matt Farah?

  So I like that.

• 1:04:19Speaker 01

A hundred percent. When I went to Italy, and you would just see all the people pour out of their houses and go to the town center. And everybody, the groups were doing a different thing. Everyone's like doing their different thing, but they're all together.

• 1:04:32Matt Farah?

And like, a restaurant is the size of this studio, but has seating for seventy outside.

• 1:04:37Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:04:37Matt Farah?

Like, yes, like, literally, seventy people are sitting outside.

• 1:04:40Speaker 01

Yeah. It it's great. It's, I I don't know, like, whatever, people can get mad about anything, like, I don't understand it. No, but again, I think it's about cars, right? No one's taking your car away.

• 1:04:50Matt Farah?

I think, I think they, some some people have made a boogeyman of, we want to take your car away, which is horseshit. Nobody wants to take anyone's car.

• 1:04:58Speaker 01

Ideally, I live in a world without a car, but that's never gonna happen. It's just not gonna happen.

• 1:05:03Matt Farah?

You just, there's things that are better when they're at hand.

• 1:05:07Speaker 01

  They're at hand.

• 1:05:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:08Speaker 01

I I love, I grew up in California, and when I when I moved to New York City, I was there for five years. And then I realized, oh, I like being in a car.

• 1:05:18Speaker 01

I grew up with it. It's almost meditative. You get in there, you start thinking about stuff. You're you're alone. If as long as you're not in crazy driving, trying to get somewhere. It's relaxing.

• 1:05:29Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:30Speaker 01

It's it's nice. Driving a car is nice and enjoyable. And so being from California, it's an integral part of my life.

• 1:05:36Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:37Speaker 01

But I also happy to not drive and walk down to the store.

• 1:05:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah, you want the choice.

• 1:05:41Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah, it's a choice.

• 1:05:42Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:43Matt Farah?

And it's like, we're not saying everywhere. We're saying pick some, pick some spots. Fucking not hard.

• 1:05:49Speaker 01

Also, like, you don't have to do it. If people want to do it, just let them do it. Shut up.

• 1:05:53Matt Farah?

Well, you should, I mean, you should talk about the fucking west side up zoning project.

• 1:05:57Speaker 01

  Oh, God.

• 1:05:57Matt Farah?

That all my fucking NIMBY ass neighbors are against.

• 1:06:02Speaker 01

  So bad.

• 1:06:03Matt Farah?

I had to, I had to deal with a lot of text messages. People, people are very afraid of four stories of apartment above, above their grocery store.

• 1:06:11Speaker 01

  Isn't it crazy?

• 1:06:12Matt Farah?

  I don't know why.

• 1:06:12Speaker 01

  It's really wild, yeah.

• 1:06:13Matt Farah?

Uh, Einhorn is Finkel says, Dave, will you ever revisit and update the two part Elon Musk episode? There's been a lot that happened from the point that you left off.

• 1:06:23Speaker 01

Yeah, so, yes. But right now, you're watching an active drug addict do the craziest stuff possible. So I will, but.

• 1:06:32Matt Farah?

  While cucking the president.

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

Yeah, while cucking the president, cucking the president on television.

• 1:06:36Matt Farah?

  It only costs $200 million.

• 1:06:38Speaker 01

Shut up, you're not the president. Yeah, who said that?

• 1:06:42Matt Farah?

It costs 0.1% of his net worth.

• 1:06:44Speaker 01

  Kids don't have.

• 1:06:45Matt Farah?

  0.1%!

• 1:06:46Speaker 01

  He paid, remember?

• 1:06:47Matt Farah?

  0.1%!

• 1:06:47Speaker 01

We would always, we would always watch the Congress and we'd be like, wait, Nestle bought you for $5,000? And that's how they just bought the president? Like, they just don't, it's never been that much money.

• 1:06:58Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:59Speaker 01

It's so weird to watch. So, yeah, he just bought the president.

• 1:07:01Matt Farah?

0.1%. That's like fucking me going out and maybe buying like a nice suit.

• 1:07:06Speaker 01

  Yes. Seriously.

• 1:07:08Matt Farah?

  Just going about my life.

• 1:07:09Speaker 01

I bought a really nice suit.

• 1:07:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:11Matt Farah?

It's 0.1% of my net worth.

• 1:07:14Speaker 01

But he's a, he's a drug addict. I don't know, I don't know how far he is on the Matt Perry scale of ketamine use, but he is deep in ketamine use. And-

• 1:07:25Matt Farah?

  Ketamine and yes men together?

• 1:07:27Speaker 01

  Ooh, yikes.

• 1:07:28Matt Farah?

  Not a good-

• 1:07:29Speaker 02

Did you guys see there's, you know, during inauguration, him and Bezos had the same face going.

• 1:07:34Speaker 01

  Oh, Bezos did too?

• 1:07:35Speaker 02

Yeah, so I saw this TikTok.

• 1:07:36Matt Farah?

  They had the fucking-

• 1:07:37Speaker 02

And this guy, so it shows them and this guy cuts away and he goes, "Uh, I go clubbing a lot." What you're seeing is what we call a Calvin Klein, which is cocaine and ketamine. Because if you take too much ketamine, you dissociate too much, so you need cocaine to keep you awake and like a little bit present. And he's, and he just, and this guy was like, "That's definitely what that is."

• 1:07:57Speaker 01

Because you could see him trying to-

• 1:07:59Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:07:59Speaker 01

Stay aware of reality and just like-

• 1:08:03Matt Farah?

"I have everything that I want and it's not enough."

• 1:08:06Speaker 02

The eyes were, the eyes were interesting.

• 1:08:08Speaker 01

Yeah, so I didn't know, I didn't know, uh, Bezos has also jumped on that.

• 1:08:12Speaker 02

I didn't know a lot, but, uh, that, I don't know how much he does it, but when you see them both at the thing, they both have the eyes looking at the ceiling tiles.

• 1:08:18Matt Farah?

He keeps it on the spare yacht.

• 1:08:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:21Matt Farah?

  Some backup yacht.

• 1:08:22Speaker 02

Well, look, sometimes you go to a party and your friend's like, "Hey, I'm doing this. Do you want to try it?" And you're like, "Oh, I've heard, that seems like, could be fun. I feel like that might happen."

• 1:08:29Speaker 01

It might be, but, uh, Musk makes-

• 1:08:31Matt Farah?

You guys ever take over the government all weed?

• 1:08:39Speaker 02

Is there a guy in the Oval Office? I don't know, I don't know.

• 1:08:43Speaker 01

Um, there's been a reporting that Musk's, Musk makes other CEOs take, so he'll have a party and they come over and they have to take it and they feel really awkward on, on the spot and they end up having to take ketamine. So-

• 1:08:55Matt Farah?

Diddy's like, "Fuck, this is bullshit." If I was drugging CEOs, I'd be in the president's office.

• 1:09:03Speaker 01

Yeah, so Musk's end is going to be, uh, for me, wonderful, but for him, tragic. And I think, I think he's, I think what he's doing just makes him accelerate drug use. So it's a, it's one of those.

• 1:09:18Matt Farah?

  Yeah, megalomaniacs, uh-

• 1:09:21Speaker 01

And, and you're putting yourself under pressure in a situation, it's all, everything he's doing is the opposite of what he should be doing to survive, literally survive. Like this guy's, this guy's headed down a bad road. I wonder if he's injecting it, like- You know, where is he, where, like I said, where is he?

• 1:09:37Matt Farah?

What body part is he injecting it into?

• 1:09:40Speaker 01

  Oh, dick.

• 1:09:41Matt Farah?

  Definitely his dick.

• 1:09:42Speaker 01

  Well, I didn't hear that.

• 1:09:42Matt Farah?

  Hundred percent.

• 1:09:43Speaker 01

Although, you've heard the rumor that he has a fucked up dick, right?

• 1:09:45Matt Farah?

I did. Yeah, I did hear that.

• 1:09:47Speaker 01

  That's a good one.

• 1:09:47Matt Farah?

It's a good one. We should just make t-shirts that just...

• 1:09:52Matt Farah?

I want it, I don't want to do it because I think it will look bad on me, but I did want to make a bunch of Sieg Heil stickers to put on...

• 1:10:00Speaker 01

I mean, people are, people are already doing that. Yeah, that's gonna happen. People, if you own a Tesla right now, I'm sorry, but you're not gonna want to own that Tesla soon. Like, what he's doing, people are gonna destroy your Tesla.

• 1:10:11Matt Farah?

And if it's not that, they depreciate rapidly.

• 1:10:14Speaker 01

Yeah, no, I have a friend who was like, "I want to sell it, but it's like, I'm gonna be screwed."

• 1:10:20Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:21Matt Farah?

Uh, double O slow, what modern automaker would make for the best Dollop story in terms of being the biggest shit show? Oh, that's true. We've, there's been a lot of sort of startup automakers that have gone...

• 1:10:32Speaker 01

  Oh, pretty recent?

• 1:10:33Matt Farah?

  Yeah, like Fisk, uh, Fisker.

• 1:10:35Speaker 01

  Fisker was crazy, right?

• 1:10:37Matt Farah?

With the ocean, that did not end well at all.

• 1:10:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:39Matt Farah?

Uh, Faraday Futures in the middle of a major, a major collapse. What is it, rise? Canoe, canoe was gone.

• 1:10:45Speaker 01

  What's canoe?

• 1:10:46Matt Farah?

They were making this little van that almost, it was supposedly an autonomous van, and of course, it was C A N O O because tech, bro.

• 1:10:56Matt Farah?

You gotta, you gotta either drop a vowel or add a vowel. That's how you make a tech bro.

• 1:11:04Speaker 01

  I mean, if I...

• 1:11:05Matt Farah?

See, look, it's not a terrible looking little thing, actually. No, it was pretty cool.

• 1:11:08Speaker 01

Yeah, I actually like that. So that was, that was like a, just bullshit, let's get VC money?

• 1:11:13Matt Farah?

I don't, no, no, I don't necessarily think it was bullshit. I just think it was a reach that was never gonna get there. They failed to secure funding. I think, I think it was a good faith effort. I don't think it was a scam.

• 1:11:23Speaker 01

I mean, if I were to do any car related thing right now, it would be Volkswagen.

• 1:11:27Matt Farah?

Well, you saw the new, uh, you saw the new, the new bus, right? The ID Buzz?

• 1:11:31Speaker 01

I think it's almost no miles.

• 1:11:32Matt Farah?

It's, uh, I think there's two different sized batteries.

• 1:11:35Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:11:36Matt Farah?

  I think there's a small and a, it's fucking expensive. It's like 70 grand.

• 1:11:39Speaker 01

Yeah, I saw one the other day. I mean, yeah, I, I...

• 1:11:41Matt Farah?

  It's cool looking.

• 1:11:42Speaker 01

I have a soft spot for VW stuff.

• 1:11:44Matt Farah?

You want, get yourself a, get yourself a, an old Beetle.

• 1:11:47Speaker 01

  It would be great.

• 1:11:48Matt Farah?

  Good quality.

• 1:11:48Speaker 01

Yeah, right? And I've been, I, yeah, I've been wanting that. I, I talk to my wife all the time, like... A Volkswagen, a little Beetle.

• 1:11:55Matt Farah?

Yeah, they're fun. Yeah, they're cheap and they're fun.

• 1:11:57Speaker 01

I know somebody who dropped a, got the EV.

• 1:12:01Matt Farah?

Oh, the conversion? Yeah, that'd be cool.

• 1:12:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:03Matt Farah?

I'm, I'm having a Myers Manks built right now. You know what that is? It's like the dune buggy conversion for the Beetle. Yeah. It's got an airplane engine.

• 1:12:11Speaker 01

I didn't know that was the name of it. Was it also called the Thing or is that a different one?

• 1:12:14Matt Farah?

No, the Thing is the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, which is a fucking Nazi car. It's a Nazi military car.

• 1:12:20Speaker 01

Well, my buddy had one in high school and it was a fun Nazi car.

• 1:12:23Matt Farah?

Right, it was adopted. Yeah, it was adopted later, but it's it goes back.

• 1:12:27Speaker 02

BMW and there's a lot of that.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

Yeah, aren't they all Nazi cars? Like that?

• 1:12:30Matt Farah?

Yeah, no, this one was a military.

• 1:12:32Speaker 01

  Like really Nazi cars?

• 1:12:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, it was their Hummer. It was their Hummer. But because it was Germany, it was actually fuel efficient and lightweight.

• 1:12:41Matt Farah?

Like, the Nazis did a better job at building that military car for the street. You know, you really gotta give them credit, Bob.

• 1:12:51Speaker 01

How is the electric Hummer going? Cause I see that and I'm just like, what are you doing?

• 1:12:55Matt Farah?

The SUV one is selling better than the pickup trucky one. But it's a fuck, it's, it's a 200 kilowatt hour battery, dude.

• 1:13:04Speaker 01

  It is?

• 1:13:05Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's the least efficient EV on the market.

• 1:13:09Speaker 02

It is far less efficient than like a Rivian or something.

• 1:13:11Speaker 01

Of course. Yeah, because it's Hummer.

• 1:13:12Matt Farah?

  Because it's a Hummer.

• 1:13:13Speaker 01

Yeah. What do you think of Rivian?

• 1:13:15Matt Farah?

  They make really nice cars.

• 1:13:16Speaker 02

  Very nice.

• 1:13:16Matt Farah?

They make really nice cars. Are you?

• 1:13:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:18Matt Farah?

They make really nice cars. For their first effort, the R1S and R1T, for a company's first vehicle, that's an unbelievably high quality thing.

• 1:13:26Speaker 01

It gets like, Consumer Reports gave it like the lowest rating, rating for big brands.

• 1:13:31Matt Farah?

Yeah, they're, they have some reliability issues, but they're very nice to drive.

• 1:13:36Speaker 01

But they look so fun. Like, cause like, that's what I was kinda looking at, but then I was just like, eh.

• 1:13:40Matt Farah?

They can be a bitch. The people I've known have, that I've known who have them have had some issues with them, but they love them.

• 1:13:45Speaker 01

Right, they still love them, but they've, yeah, cause with my Kona, I had to get the battery replaced twice.

• 1:13:50Speaker 02

That's like every luxury product, though.

• 1:13:51Matt Farah?

  Really? Under warranty, I hope.

• 1:13:52Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. They replaced it, but it was just like.

• 1:13:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah. But that's new shit.

• 1:13:56Speaker 01

It's all new shit. It's gonna happen.

• 1:13:58Matt Farah?

  It's gonna happen.

• 1:13:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, you're, you're.

• 1:13:59Matt Farah?

I wouldn't want an EV under warranty, but there's a lot of value in used EVs that still have warranty.

• 1:14:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, right.

• 1:14:06Matt Farah?

  Yeah. Uh, Drew P-ball, P-ball's.

• 1:14:10Speaker 01

  P-ball? Drew P-ball.

• 1:14:11Matt Farah?

  I don't know.

• 1:14:12Speaker 01

Drew, Drew, come on, man. What are you doing?

• 1:14:15Matt Farah?

Oh, the original Nazi car and SoCal car culture gave us dune buggies. We did not start reading that before having the conversation we just did. Uh, will Cybertrucks, being seemingly valueless already, get modded and art carved beyond recognition like so many Beatles did? Uh, follow up, if given a free one, how would you de-Nazi a Cybertruck? Now, that is a great question. How does one de-Nazi a Cybertruck?

• 1:14:41Speaker 01

Well, it's so brutalist in its very nature. It's, I don't know how you de-Nazify that.

• 1:14:49Matt Farah?

  Rabbit in Palestine?

• 1:14:52Speaker 01

Put, you know, put, uh, shrubbery around it. Make it a tiny house for people to use for free.

• 1:14:58Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:59Speaker 01

The most amazing thing to me about the Cybertruck is the fact that the, the trunk is just completely useless. Like, the bed is just like, not a thing.

• 1:15:06Matt Farah?

  It's small.

• 1:15:07Speaker 01

You can't even put a bike in there. Like, it's crazy.

• 1:15:09Matt Farah?

No, a Honda Acti, which is a, a imported Japanese K-truck, like a tiny little 660cc truck, has the same size bed.

• 1:15:17Speaker 01

  It does.

• 1:15:17Matt Farah?

Yeah, you park, people park them next to each other and take a photo. It's pretty funny.

• 1:15:21Speaker 01

  I don't think you can.

• 1:15:22Matt Farah?

Would you de-Nazi a Cybertruck? How would you?

• 1:15:24Speaker 01

No, because, like, the thing about the, if you're talking about a dune buggy, like, that had a use.

• 1:15:30Matt Farah?

Yeah, it was actually, they, they, it was, the first one was a race car.

• 1:15:34Speaker 01

Yeah, okay, but it, like, it had a use and it, and it fit into something. The Cybertruck doesn't really fit into any culture, except dickhead culture, right? I mean, it doesn't fit anywhere.

• 1:15:44Matt Farah?

It's not good. Uh, I don't think, see, the other thing is with a Beetle to a dune buggy, you, you cut everything off and use the floor pan for basically a whole new car. You can't just, like... Un-cybertruck, a cybertruck. It's a whole structure. So like stapled and glued together. I don't really know.

• 1:16:04Speaker 01

I mean, that's the problem, right? Like, if you wanna, if you wanna alter a cybertruck, you're talking about something that's glued together and stapled together. Like, it's not...

• 1:16:12Matt Farah?

The only way to de-Nazi one is to devalue that company until Elon, until they fucking call him, you know, until he gets a margin call or something, and they, and he loses his power because he loses his wealth. That's the only way, and I'm not sure it's possible.

• 1:16:27Speaker 01

I actually think it is possible, and I think it will happen. I think, I think that it's gonna collapse. I, talking of that, I go back to the private equity guy I talked to. He's on a text chain with all of the big shorters.

• 1:16:40Matt Farah?

  Oh, really?

• 1:16:41Speaker 01

And in May, they were like, "Finally, finally, we got him." Finally.

• 1:16:45Matt Farah?

  In May!

• 1:16:47Speaker 02

Some people have been shorting him for nine years, and they've lost a lot of money.

• 1:16:50Speaker 01

  So much money, yeah.

• 1:16:52Speaker 02

Or they've had to put up a lot of principal, yeah.

• 1:16:53Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:16:53Matt Farah?

Uh, way bad's rad. With the current administration pulling back EV mandates, will automakers focus back on internal combustion and hybrids? Yes, they already have.

• 1:17:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:03Matt Farah?

How will this affect the new generation of sports cars? I mean, we said in the beginning of the show, EVs are less profitable. They wanna make what's the most profitable.

• 1:17:11Speaker 01

I mean, right, if you really wanna make an EV for profit, it's the very high luxury market. Like, that's it, right?

• 1:17:18Matt Farah?

  Right now.

• 1:17:18Speaker 01

That's, you can't do anything else.

• 1:17:20Matt Farah?

Or let Chinese cars sell here.

• 1:17:22Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:17:22Speaker 02

But they do it by not paying anybody any real money.

• 1:17:25Speaker 01

  There's... There's that.

• 1:17:27Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:17:27Speaker 01

  But, right, that...

• 1:17:28Matt Farah?

Which is slavery between nations. I mean, now that we're in autocracy, like, what's the fucking difference?

• 1:17:35Speaker 01

Well, look, if you're gonna talk about, you know, doing that, like, let's talk about the Congo and everything. You have in your pocket and your computer right there. Like, it's, it's all, it's all the same deal. Uh, the BYD, well, we talked about that. Have you driven it?

• 1:17:49Matt Farah?

I've not been driven it yet. I've driven, a couple of people have driven them and said, you know, they're pretty nice.

• 1:17:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:54Matt Farah?

  They're pretty nice.

• 1:17:54Speaker 02

  For like 20 grand.

• 1:17:55Speaker 01

It's like 25 grand is what they are. Like, that would so destroy the American, like, it would be over. Like, that would be the only car that people would buy.

• 1:18:04Matt Farah?

It would rapidly kill the EV market here.

• 1:18:07Speaker 01

And it would kill Tesla overnight.

• 1:18:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah, probably.

• 1:18:10Speaker 01

  Done.

• 1:18:10Speaker 02

But it would also really hurt Ford, GM, every, I mean.

• 1:18:12Speaker 01

Yeah, that's the real problem, right? The unions would be like, nah, you're not bringing that in.

• 1:18:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:17Speaker 01

Like, nobody's letting that car in here. But that car, because I actually looked it up and I'm like, can I buy it in Mexico and bring it in? Nope, can't register it.

• 1:18:24Matt Farah?

  You can't.

• 1:18:24Speaker 01

It's, but it's so like, it's so like America where it's just like, that's what we've become, right? Where maybe in the past, we would let stuff in, but now we just freeze everything out that is

• 1:18:36Matt Farah?

  Better.

• 1:18:37Speaker 01

Good, better. And we're making shittier stuff here.

• 1:18:39Matt Farah?

We've been doing it with headlights, strangely enough, for like 10 years now. When headlights went from incandescent or to HID and then to LED and now to laser, Europe is like five years ahead of the US on what type of technology they'll allow in headlights. So, the newest laser headlights in Europe, you get your high beams on, you're driving at night, oncoming, it will, as the car moves through your headlight track, it will track the car and block the car. So your high beams are still on, but that car is not blinded. Just that car.

• 1:19:19Speaker 02

They can selectively turn off different lasers, so it's just as if it's painting over, you know, your windshield as you approach. It's amazing.

• 1:19:26Matt Farah?

It's sick. Not legal in the US.

• 1:19:28Speaker 01

When you, when you bring up how.

• 1:19:30Speaker 02

I think they're legal now, but it took a couple of years.

• 1:19:31Matt Farah?

Oh, you know what? The new Rivian, the R1, the R1S, it was the first one. Yeah, this year, it was the first year that they did, but they've had it in Europe for like four years.

• 1:19:38Speaker 01

When you bring up to other people that roads are safer in Europe. They can't really wrap their head around it and it's because of not just things like that, but just road design and everything else that they are just moving ahead with and doing it. And we can't even have a roundabout.

• 1:19:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:54Speaker 01

Without people putting in stop signs.

• 1:19:56Matt Farah?

I love, I love a roundabout. Oh my God, in Santa Monica, the stop sign.

• 1:20:01Speaker 01

Dude, they, they put in roundabouts in Hollywood when I lived there and then they lasted for about six months and then there are stop signs and I was like, no, we were, we were so close.

• 1:20:10Matt Farah?

There. You know where it has roundabouts? Arizona of all.

• 1:20:13Speaker 01

  Yes, they do.

• 1:20:14Matt Farah?

Out by like Jerome and shit. They got a bunch of roundabouts out there. Traffic flows.

• 1:20:19Speaker 01

  It does.

• 1:20:20Matt Farah?

  Testing them out.

• 1:20:22Speaker 01

  It's such a better thing.

• 1:20:23Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah. We're so stupid.

• 1:20:24Speaker 01

Yeah, we, like, it's just all backwards and, and, and that's a great, that's a great example of those, those headlights. Oh, by the way, the Jeep I bought for my son was a 2012 Jeep. I don't like the headlights. Is it easy to get better headlights popped in that bad boy?

• 1:20:42Matt Farah?

Probably. Uh, you send me a picture of the front of the car and we can find something out. Yeah, I mean, it's a Wrangler?

• 1:20:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:20:49Matt Farah?

The most customized car in America.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

Yeah, that's what someone said to me.

• 1:20:52Matt Farah?

There's an aftermarket solution for everything.

• 1:20:54Speaker 01

Yeah, okay. I got, I got so lucky finding that car.

• 1:20:57Matt Farah?

Did you get cruise control in your van? Cause Gareth was a, was really.

• 1:21:02Speaker 01

Here's an interesting thing about me. I don't like cruise control.

• 1:21:06Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:21:07Speaker 01

  Would you think it's crazy?

• 1:21:08Matt Farah?

  I don't think it's crazy.

• 1:21:09Speaker 01

So I bought the van, but I think he might be talking about his van.

• 1:21:14Matt Farah?

He was talking about the Nissan van.

• 1:21:15Speaker 01

He was? We don't have cruise control on that?

• 1:21:17Matt Farah?

  No.

• 1:21:17Speaker 01

Cause I don't use cruise control, so I'm fine with it. Which is crazy, cause my Ioniq apparently, the cruise control is amazing.

• 1:21:22Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's a radar cruise control with adaptive stuff. Yeah, I like radar cruise control a lot. I don't like old screw cruise control.

• 1:21:28Speaker 01

  What's the diff?

• 1:21:29Matt Farah?

Radar cruise control will know if there's a car in front of you or not and you set a minimum distance and when you get there, it will not.

• 1:21:36Speaker 01

You can set it on your settings and say like 30 feet, 20 feet.

• 1:21:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, well, it's like one, two, three, four, five, but yeah, basically.

• 1:21:43Speaker 02

But then it adjusts to the speed of the car in front of you. So if you, normal cruise control, you set it at 75 and if the car in front of you in the left lane on the I-5 is going 68.

• 1:21:50Speaker 01

  You're still going 75.

• 1:21:51Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. That's why I hate cruise control. Yeah, so radar, your car won't do that. Your car will stop.

• 1:21:56Speaker 01

But the van wouldn't have had that.

• 1:21:57Matt Farah?

No, the van would have had regular cruise control.

• 1:21:59Speaker 01

Yeah, and I hate, I hate regular cruise control.

• 1:22:00Matt Farah?

Well Gareth seemed to want it, so he asked me about it.

• 1:22:03Speaker 01

Well, maybe Gareth should be more involved in the process.

• 1:22:06Matt Farah?

But didn't he just get his own van?

• 1:22:08Speaker 01

Yeah, he bought, so he was putting so many miles on the van, because I was letting him use it for, uh, for his road trips and when he does stand up. And then he's like, hey, man, I'm probably gonna get a van. And I was like, well, that's an interesting, uh, development. So I looked at it. He put on like forty thousand miles on the van without me.

• 1:22:24Matt Farah?

Oh, man. That's a lot. Do you like van gigging?

• 1:22:29Speaker 01

  It's so much better.

• 1:22:30Matt Farah?

  Is it?

• 1:22:31Speaker 01

The, the last time we flew, uh, I, I don't remember why, but we had to fly through Canada to get to New York, for whatever reason. And then, or Boston. And then the both, and so it was a two-leg flight, and both flights were canceled. One on the way there, then bo, then the two legs on the way back. And I, and I spent like, I spent like, two and a half days traveling. And I'm just like, well, I just, I'm driving from now on.

• 1:22:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:57Speaker 01

Like, I know sometimes the flights work, but when they don't, if you're, if you're getting somewhere on time to do a show, it, it can't be unreliable. Flying is now unreliable.

• 1:23:06Matt Farah?

Well, you've, and you've got two thousand people. It's not like it's a fucking fifteen-minute set at the store.

• 1:23:12Speaker 01

Right. You can't, like, you can't go to the, I gotta get there. I gotta show. They don't give a shit.

• 1:23:16Speaker 02

But they know you have to leave four days earlier than you would normally.

• 1:23:19Speaker 01

So then, so then what, yeah, you gotta leave four days earlier. But with the flying, you have to leave a day earlier. And I'm sorry, but airports, I just can't take it anymore. And then you also, you're spending more money on hotels than you're spending, like,

• 1:23:30Matt Farah?

  Are you van camping?

• 1:23:32Speaker 01

  We aren't van camping.

• 1:23:33Matt Farah?

  You're sleeping in the van.

• 1:23:34Speaker 01

But you can pick your place where you're gonna stop.

• 1:23:37Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 1:23:37Speaker 01

And you save a lot of money on hotels doing that.

• 1:23:39Matt Farah?

  Oh, all right. Fine.

• 1:23:40Speaker 01

Uh, yeah, but it's just, it's, it's essentially being at the whims of someone else and not.

• 1:23:46Matt Farah?

  I get it.

• 1:23:46Speaker 01

And so I, I love it. I also just like, driving has never bothered me. I like a long drive. Like, I, you see the country, you, you know, stop at weird places, and it's just better. I just like it.

• 1:23:57Matt Farah?

I understand. No judgment at all.

• 1:23:59Speaker 01

Look, this is a driving podcast. Essentially, I like driving. I'm not, we're not gonna argue.

• 1:24:03Matt Farah?

My, my, that electric Porsche I bought, I bought it in Detroit and drove it home.

• 1:24:07Speaker 01

  Oh, shit.

• 1:24:08Matt Farah?

On New Year's Eve. I just fucking got, flew to Detroit one way and drove twenty-three hundred miles home.

• 1:24:12Speaker 01

  That's awesome.

• 1:24:13Matt Farah?

  Twenty-one stops.

• 1:24:14Speaker 01

When I was looking at Jeeps, I was, I was just like, no, all over the country, I'll find a good Jeep.

• 1:24:18Matt Farah?

If you get a good deal, it's worth it.

• 1:24:20Speaker 01

The Jeep I found was down in Lake Elsinore, and the guy, every five thousand miles, he got it tuned up. And it was like, like, I could sell it, I could put sixty thousand miles on it and probably sell it.

• 1:24:33Matt Farah?

  For the same.

• 1:24:34Speaker 01

  Or more.

• 1:24:34Matt Farah?

  Yeah, goodbye.

• 1:24:35Speaker 01

I just found a goodbye. That auto, what the auto dealer, I think it's called, auto trader.

• 1:24:40Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 1:24:41Speaker 01

So I just was on there for four months going, one's gonna pop up. But then I also kept coming across the, uh, the ones that are wrecks.

• 1:24:48Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:49Speaker 01

But someone's selling, yeah, it's nine grand. It's a great Jeep. And you're like, yeah, but I can't register in California.

• 1:24:53Matt Farah?

  Fucking, it's got a, it's got a salvage title.

• 1:24:55Speaker 02

  It's got an A pillar.

• 1:24:56Speaker 01

What a crazy scam that is. Like, why are they allowing those to be sold?

• 1:25:01Matt Farah?

  Cause, hmm.

• 1:25:04Speaker 02

  Why?

• 1:25:04Matt Farah?

Why are they allowing salvage title cars?

• 1:25:07Speaker 02

Sometimes salvage cars, you know, if the airbag deployed, but they had an accident at 12 miles an hour, but the structure is still sound, it'll, it could have a salvage title. So you still have a totally sound automobile.

• 1:25:16Speaker 01

That's true. But aren't you also having cars that were in a flood?

• 1:25:19Matt Farah?

So the, the reason a car can get salvaged sometimes has to do with whether that car would be safe to operate. And sometimes it doesn't. It's a math decision, right? Like, so if it costs more to fix than it does to total it, the car is salvaged. Even if it's just like, well, it's this front bumper, but it's full of cameras and sensors, so, eh.

• 1:25:40Speaker 01

So what you're saying is, is that there should be different degrees of salvage and those ones shouldn't go on the road and other ones should be fine?

• 1:25:47Matt Farah?

I don't have the answer necessarily.

• 1:25:49Speaker 01

We're gonna come over the right.

• 1:25:51Matt Farah?

When you and I run for office, our platform.

• 1:25:55Speaker 02

Classification of salvage would be a good idea.

• 1:25:57Matt Farah?

Run for office, local or regional?

• 1:26:00Speaker 01

I don't think I could win because of all the things I've said online and on a podcast. I mean, I've essentially, I've essentially said, let's, let's, uh, you know, kill billionaires. Like, I, I don't have a really, although that might win me a lot of votes.

• 1:26:14Matt Farah?

That might win. In two years, that may be a very popular position.

• 1:26:17Speaker 02

Depends on how Luigi's trial goes. It really depends. That'll really set your campaign up or set it to fail.

• 1:26:23Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I could, I've considered running for the water board in my town.

• 1:26:27Matt Farah?

  Oh, shit.

• 1:26:28Speaker 01

But I also had a big, uh, uh, there was a fascist running for our, for our school board and I went pretty hard.

• 1:26:36Matt Farah?

Oh, you did a whole fucking dollop about it.

• 1:26:38Speaker 01

  I did. I remember.

• 1:26:40Matt Farah?

It was fucking hardcore, man. It was crazy.

• 1:26:43Speaker 01

So I have a target on my back and those people have done a lot of research on me. So I don't know how, I mean, look, I'm a comedian.

• 1:26:50Matt Farah?

There's a binder. There's a binder somewhere. It says Dave Anthony Apo.

• 1:26:55Speaker 01

There really is. Now I found out.

• 1:26:57Matt Farah?

  And Gary Reynolds.

• 1:27:00Speaker 01

Now, I also had a guy contact me who lived on the east coast and was like, oh, he was my roommate. He used to bang dudes while he was with his now wife. And I was like, interesting. And you grabbed a pen? So those facts could come out at some point also. So if he wants to ever comment me, I'm gonna nuke his life.

• 1:27:15Matt Farah?

  Alright, cool.

• 1:27:18Speaker 01

  I'll watch that show.

• 1:27:19Matt Farah?

  There you go.

• 1:27:20Speaker 01

I got popcorn ready. But yeah, it's like, I don't think I could ever run for office.

• 1:27:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah, also it sounds terrible.

• 1:27:28Speaker 01

What's the podcast, the garbage part?

• 1:27:30Matt Farah?

  Are you garbage?

• 1:27:31Speaker 01

Nah, I don't think I could go on that podcast.

• 1:27:34Matt Farah?

I really, you should check it out.

• 1:27:36Speaker 01

Do you think you could go on that podcast?

• 1:27:37Matt Farah?

I would not, I think that when they came on our show, they were, they stopped by when they were in LA.

• 1:27:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:44Matt Farah?

I, I had some garbage moments. I used to sell a lot of weed and mushrooms.

• 1:27:48Speaker 01

  I did too.

• 1:27:48Matt Farah?

It's, it's okay. Right of passage.

• 1:27:50Speaker 01

In high school, I walked around with a duffel bag, a small duffel bag, but a little one full of mushrooms and I'd just sell them.

• 1:27:56Matt Farah?

The duffel shuffle, as it were, yeah. I, I've just recently learned that they've made nitrous oxide flavored and you can buy tanks.

• 1:28:04Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 1:28:05Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. You can buy tanks of nitrous now.

• 1:28:07Speaker 01

Remember when you had to work for it, you had to go into the grocery store and grab a? No, now you just hit add to cart. Now you can buy?

• 1:28:14Matt Farah?

They're slinging a fucking strawberry pony bottle now.

• 1:28:20Speaker 01

It's fucking nuts. I was saying, no, you just have to work for stuff.

• 1:28:23Matt Farah?

Well, they're saying fucking Kanye is, is, they're saying it's heavy nitrous.

• 1:28:29Speaker 01

  Oh, interesting.

• 1:28:30Matt Farah?

Which I've done so much nitrous. I don't know how much nitrous you have to do to turn into fucking that.

• 1:28:37Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:28:37Matt Farah?

But it's more than any human has ever done.

• 1:28:39Speaker 01

Well, because he has, he has time and access to it all, whereas, you know, when you were probably doing it, like I did it when I was younger in high school and stuff. I thought I had to go to a job or go to a fair. I was gonna go to school. Like, I couldn't just sit around and do nitrous all day, because I would have.

• 1:28:53Matt Farah?

  But if you're Kanye.

• 1:28:54Speaker 01

Yeah, you can. You can do it whenever. Fascinating. Flavored nitrous?

• 1:29:00Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. It's called Galaxy Gas. It's a brand name, dude.

• 1:29:05Speaker 01

  There's a, there's a.

• 1:29:06Matt Farah?

They sell it at walmart.com, by the way.

• 1:29:10Matt Farah?

We found this. We found this like two weeks ago. I found it again. You found it again, look. It doesn't take long.

• 1:29:15Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 1:29:16Matt Farah?

Walmart.com, baby. Get yourself a pony bottle.

• 1:29:18Speaker 01

  What the fuck?

• 1:29:19Matt Farah?

  On sale.

• 1:29:20Speaker 01

  What is happening?

• 1:29:22Matt Farah?

  Watermelon lemonade. Yup.

• 1:29:25Speaker 01

There's a, I'm a, I'm a big Manchester United fan and there was a kid who was, you know, coming up and he was like a local kid and from poverty and stuff and, and, and then he started getting into nitrous and they like, the, the, cause they have CCTV everywhere, so they caught him driving with a balloon.

• 1:29:43Matt Farah?

  That's crazy.

• 1:29:45Speaker 01

I don't know how you could drive.

• 1:29:47Matt Farah?

I don't even know why you'd want to drive.

• 1:29:52Speaker 01

  Well, not anymore, no.

• 1:29:53Matt Farah?

No, the reason I like know about, there was an article, I think it was in the New Yorker about it and they, the, the person, the clerk at the store that was required to sell this shit as part of his job, would try to, try to like, report it to somebody. Cause be like, people would come in, get a tank, take it out of the box, throw the box in the fucking garbage, sit in their car, be there for like 15 minutes and roll away swerving.

• 1:30:16Speaker 01

  What?

• 1:30:17Matt Farah?

  That's crazy.

• 1:30:18Speaker 01

It's crazy. What, what are we doing?

• 1:30:20Matt Farah?

Things should be hard to get. Something should be hard to get.

• 1:30:23Speaker 01

This is a thing where you should have to work to get. It should be, yeah. I mean, there's like mushrooms, weed, but there's, there's other things. I try to explain this to my son, like, cause my wife's like, no drugs. I'm like,

• 1:30:34Matt Farah?

  Some drugs.

• 1:30:35Speaker 01

  Some drugs.

• 1:30:36Matt Farah?

It's okay to be okay. If it's from the ground, it's probably okay.

• 1:30:40Speaker 01

  Yes. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

• 1:30:42Matt Farah?

Um, this was rad. Thank you for your time, Dave. I really appreciate it. I appreciate all 800 and whatever the fuck episodes you're at. 800 and what?

• 1:30:50Speaker 01

  We're not at 800.

• 1:30:51Matt Farah?

Are you not? You're at 670, something like that.

• 1:30:53Speaker 01

  70.

• 1:30:53Matt Farah?

And then, but there's gotta be at least 100 pastimes also.

• 1:30:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, we're at 113.

• 1:30:59Matt Farah?

Okay, so there you are. You're almost at 800. There you go. Full feed, baby. Um, live shows? You doing them? Tours?

• 1:31:06Speaker 01

Yeah, we have a live show tour coming up, April, March 15th, March 16th, it starts in, in Tempe.

• 1:31:13Matt Farah?

  Sick.

• 1:31:14Speaker 01

And then we go to a bunch of, we go to Oklahoma and New Mexico and Texas.

• 1:31:18Matt Farah?

Dollop Podcast.com. Get tickets to the live show.

• 1:31:20Speaker 01

I'm sorry, everybody who loves capitalism will find that's you.

• 1:31:24Matt Farah?

Do you, do you, I mean, you've never done a revisit. Where you've done one and then other things have happened that have worked.

• 1:31:31Speaker 01

  We did with.

• 1:31:31Matt Farah?

  Doing another one, right?

• 1:31:32Speaker 01

  We did with the bundys.

• 1:31:33Matt Farah?

Oh, you did an update with the bundys, okay.

• 1:31:36Speaker 01

Uh, yeah, I will be doing revises because there's definitely ones that are, yeah.

• 1:31:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:40Speaker 01

I mean, Elon especially, but I'll have to do another Trump at some point.

• 1:31:43Matt Farah?

  Probably.

• 1:31:43Speaker 01

But also, those are ones I have to wait on to say, will people start getting killed?

• 1:31:46Matt Farah?

Yeah. If people want to get into the dollop, I genuinely do just recommend going to like, episode one. Yeah. And the first hundred are real insane.

• 1:31:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:31:55Matt Farah?

And then there's other insane ones later, but it's like, a pretty solid hundred percent success ratio.

• 1:32:00Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 1:32:01Matt Farah?

Of the first hundred being crazy.

• 1:32:02Speaker 01

Yeah, they were the easiest ones to pick from, right? But we just had one like the baseball guy, Pete Browning.

• 1:32:07Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:32:07Speaker 01

Yeah, so they're still, they're still the craziest ever.

• 1:32:10Matt Farah?

The barrel is very deep. It's pretty incredible.

• 1:32:12Speaker 01

  It really is, isn't it?

• 1:32:13Matt Farah?

And you'll be, some of the ones like the Resnick's ones and the George Pullman ones and some of the, you know.

• 1:32:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:20Matt Farah?

The union busting, fuck, the robber baron era ones.

• 1:32:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:25Matt Farah?

And you'll never look at John McCain the same way. Till you learn he crashed five planes.

• 1:32:32Matt Farah?

You never want to know Trump was right, but actually, John McCain sucks.

• 1:32:36Speaker 01

He does, and he's a fail side. Also, you still, like, I just wrote one for a Texas episode and I just couldn't believe what I was reading. Like, you're just reading it, and it's like, how does no one know about this? But also, what in the fuck was happening? Like, this is crazy. It still happens. Like, you still find them all the time.

• 1:32:52Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's a fucking great show, man. We really appreciate it. Thanks for coming down. Shout out to Gareth.

• 1:32:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, anytime. This is great.

• 1:32:59Matt Farah?

So you know that next Friday Gareth is coming to my house to, we're making Benihana. So after, so after you did. He's taking the van and driving to Matt's house. So after you did. All miles on your van. The Benihana episode, which is hilarious.

• 1:33:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:33:14Matt Farah?

You know, I, my wife got me the Benihana Cooking School for my birthday a couple of years ago. Which I can't recommend highly enough. You must do it.

• 1:33:21Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:33:21Matt Farah?

Yeah. So now I make Benihana at home.

• 1:33:24Speaker 01

  Shut up.

• 1:33:25Matt Farah?

And Gareth was like, get the fuck out of here. And so he's like, can I come over and you make me Benihana? Yeah. So Friday, March 7th, Gareth is coming over and we're gonna have Benihana. Do you want to come?

• 1:33:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:33:35Matt Farah?

  Come.

• 1:33:35Speaker 01

I don't get invited to anything.

• 1:33:37Matt Farah?

He, he's supposed to invite you. That was his fucking job, dude.

• 1:33:40Speaker 01

So he goes on another podcast, Flightless Bird, like, a week ago to talk about Gallagher, the comedian Gallagher.

• 1:33:48Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:33:49Speaker 01

He does a whole thing about it. And I'm like, Gareth, he was on my old podcast. And he's like, "What?" I'm like, "Yeah, tell your friend what you're doing, because I have a great Gallagher story."

• 1:33:57Matt Farah?

  Really?

• 1:33:58Speaker 01

Yeah, he came on my podcast and he was like crazy and suicidal. It was like, it was like, the podcast was like, try to stop Gallagher from killing him.

• 1:34:05Matt Farah?

  Oh my god.

• 1:34:07Speaker 02

But he has the mallet, so you're like...

• 1:34:11Matt Farah?

  Put down the sledge.

• 1:34:14Speaker 02

Distract him with watermelons, like a bowl with a cape.

• 1:34:17Matt Farah?

  Gallagher smash his own head.

• 1:34:20Speaker 01

And it was live, so there were like 800 people there watching this and the whole, it's just quiet, everyone's like, "Oh shit."

• 1:34:25Speaker 02

Is that Walking the Room? I just realized that's how I found out about the Dollop, I think. I listened to you and Brent on Walking the Room.

• 1:34:31Speaker 01

  Oh, okay, yeah.

• 1:34:32Matt Farah?

Fuck yeah, dude. But hibachi, next Friday at my house, come do it. Yeah, no, after I, after I learned how to do it, it turns out I don't need to go there anymore.

• 1:34:41Speaker 01

  It's not that hard?

• 1:34:43Matt Farah?

  Not really, no.

• 1:34:44Speaker 02

  Matt's a very good cook.

• 1:34:44Matt Farah?

But I also cook a lot, but like, yeah, no, it's not that hard.

• 1:34:47Speaker 01

  Volcano?

• 1:34:48Matt Farah?

  Uh huh.

• 1:34:49Speaker 02

  That's easy.

• 1:34:50Matt Farah?

Flip the fucking shrimp in your hat, the whole fucking thing.

• 1:34:52Speaker 01

  Shrimp in the hat?

• 1:34:52Matt Farah?

Shrimp in the hat, huh, baby? Let's go!

• 1:34:54Speaker 01

  You're gonna wear the hat.

• 1:34:55Matt Farah?

The key is you have to make a lot of noise! That's what the guy fucking told me.

• 1:35:01Matt Farah?

Mr. Matt's the key to teppanyaki cooking.

• 1:35:04Speaker 02

It's a distraction, like sleight of hand.

• 1:35:05Matt Farah?

  Make lots of noise!

• 1:35:07Speaker 01

  That's so great.

• 1:35:07Matt Farah?

And light things on fire, yeah.

• 1:35:08Speaker 01

Wow, okay. Yeah, yeah, I like it.

• 1:35:11Matt Farah?

  Shout out to Rocky Aoki.

• 1:35:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:35:14Matt Farah?

Who loved his speedboats and cocaine.

• 1:35:16Speaker 01

  Boy, dude, he's, woo!

• 1:35:18Matt Farah?

  Speedboats and cocaine, baby!

• 1:35:20Speaker 02

  That dude lived.

• 1:35:22Speaker 01

  That guy did live.

• 1:35:24Matt Farah?

Elon's only fucking cucking Trump, because no one's like, "You ever been in a speedboat?"

• 1:35:31Speaker 01

Why, yeah, these are the things people suggest to him.

• 1:35:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, he needs some 80's hobbies. Get in a skater cat and do 130 miles an hour, you'll forget about being president for a day.

• 1:35:41Speaker 02

My plea is to take him on in a jet boat for a ride.

• 1:35:43Speaker 01

I have this fantasy where it's a total dystopia, everybody's dying, the world is a nightmare, and he's escaping in a rocket and it just takes off and then explodes and for like, just one day, all the people suffering go like, "Yeah!"
