Mike Tyson: How To Overcome Your Ego To Stop Suffering In Silence & Sabotaging Your Relationships

I had the incredible privilege of joining Mike Tyson for a deep, soulful conversation that went far beyond what I expected. Mike shared profound insights about his journey from being driven by ego to finding peace through plant medicine and self-love. We explored vulnerable topics like masculinity, transformation, and what it truly means to be "good" versus "great." Mike opened up about his experiences with family, prison, bankruptcy, and finding redemption through honesty and growth. What struck me most was Mike's incredible wisdom and spiritual evolution – a side of him many haven't seen. This conversation was less about boxing and more about the raw, authentic journey of becoming better men. In this episode you will learn:How Mike transformed from using money to solve problems to learning true communication in relationshipsThe profound distinction Mike makes between being a "great" man versus a "good" manMike's journey from ego-driven champion to finding oneness with everything through plant medicineThe importance of showing up consistently in marriage and family lifeWhy Mike believes the conduct of one person affects the fate of us allFor more information go to https://www.lewishowes.com/1693For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960More SOG episodes we think you’ll love:Kobe Bryant – greatness.lnk.to/1566SCLindsey Vonn – greatness.lnk.to/1132SCAllyson Felix – greatness.lnk.to/1456SC Get more from Lewis! Hey everyone, welcome back to a very special episode of the School of Greatness. What you're about to experience right now is actually an interview I did with the legendary sports icon, Mike Tyson. And he's got a big fight that he's got coming up with Jake Paul. And one of the things that I thought was interesting was revisiting this interview. I actually went on Mike's show, it's called Hot Boxing. So this is an interview that I went on his show. But like I tend to do in most situations, I turned the interview around and started diving deep in asking him questions about his mindset, about his legacy, about how he's reinvented himself after boxing, business, and all these different things.

• 0:41Lewis Howes?

So I wanted you to dive in deep around the mindset of Mike Tyson, how he thinks, how he started to actually heal some parts of the things in his life that were causing suffering and pain. He talks about transitioning and transforming into a new identity, into a new man. And I'm excited to see what Mike continues to do with his life moving forward. This was actually an interesting test for me. I've never been drunk or high in my life, and the entire time they were smoking marijuana in this kind of contained room. So it was actually an interesting test for me to see if I could be present while this was happening on his show, Hot Boxing. So without further ado, let's dive into this interview with the one and only Mike Tyson. What do you understand about the world?

• 1:26Lewis Howes?

What do you understand about it? And what would you say to your 20-year-old self that just is about to win the title?

• 1:32Mike Tyson?

I always think about the world now that I'm one with everything, that we're all we're involved with everything. I'm involved with the, I'm involved with the bugs, I'm involved with the ants, the butterflies, the cats, the dogs. I'm one with everything, the cars, smoke, everything, I'm one with it all.

• 1:59Speaker 02

Hey everybody, welcome to another episode of Hot Boxing. I'm Evan Britton.

• 2:03Mike Tyson?

  And I'm Mike Tyson.

• 2:05Speaker 02

Dude, we got a great guest today. We got a guest who I'm a big fan of. I heard this guy on a podcast a couple of years ago, I think. And his name's Lewis Howes. Great to have you here, brother.

• 2:20Lewis Howes?

  Thanks for having me.

• 2:20Mike Tyson?

  What's up, Louis?

• 2:21Lewis Howes?

  Thank you.

• 2:21Speaker 02

What do you call yourself? Are you, you're sort of like this new age philosopher. You're a young, great thinker.

• 2:28Lewis Howes?

  I appreciate it.

• 2:29Mike Tyson?

  Are you, brother?

• 2:30Speaker 02

Yes. He's written a book, sorry, let me give you a little more intro. He's written a book, New York Times bestselling author. This book in particular that's on my mind, which is very pertinent to our show, is called The Mask of Masculinity.

• 2:45Mike Tyson?

  Wow.

• 2:47Speaker 02

And I think we got a lot to talk about there.

• 2:49Mike Tyson?

It was a, it was a, a European thing with a, not a philosopher, but a thing of, I don't know,

• 2:58Mike Tyson?

therapist. And he did the same thing with the mask of sanity.

• 3:02Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 3:03Mike Tyson?

Got his name. But it was about everyday people, we're not who we appear to be.

• 3:07Lewis Howes?

Yeah, we put on masks. We put on this projection to try to fit in, or try to make people like us, or try to please people, or win people over. And we were just talking about this before, that you played in the NFL for a number of years. And you had an identity, a mask that you wore to fit in, to be that player, right? To play the role of lineman, big tough guy, whatever it may be.

• 3:30Mike Tyson?

You had to be the tough guy, because everybody, I don't care who you were, the gangster, they respected a tough guy.

• 3:35Lewis Howes?

That's it. Yeah, that was your life growing up. They respected you because you didn't back down from anyone.

• 3:38Mike Tyson?

Yeah, I was bullied when I was a kid. And I said, wow, if I was like these guys that were bullying me, nobody would with me.

• 3:46Lewis Howes?

Right. And you became the ultimate bully of the world by destroying everyone. And here's the thing, these masks that men wear, they serve a purpose because it helps us get a result in our life, you know? I wore the athlete mask, which was, I will do whatever it takes to win at all costs. I will fricking destroy people on the field. I will train my butt off, I'll hurt myself, I won't sleep. I'll fricking do whatever to get bigger, faster, stronger at all costs, so that I can achieve my goal. And here's the crazy thing, these masks work because you were in the NFL. You became the ultimate bully and were the greatest fighter of all time. But here's what doesn't work. We are left with this sense of like, this prison inside, right?

• 4:30Lewis Howes?

We might achieve success on the outside, but then we are prisoners and we are unfulfilled on the inside. And we don't know what inner peace is. So the masks hold us back from inner peace.

• 4:39Mike Tyson?

And we take that out on our loved ones, the people close to us.

• 4:42Lewis Howes?

  Everyone.

• 4:42Mike Tyson?

  Our family, our children.

• 4:44Lewis Howes?

Everyone. Everyone suffers around us when we wear masks.

• 4:46Mike Tyson?

  Absolutely.

• 4:48Lewis Howes?

So, yeah. So that's why I wrote the book, because I was achieving at every level. I was making millions, I was, you know, playing professional football, I was accomplishing things, but I was suffering inside.

• 4:57Mike Tyson?

I knew if I didn't change, I couldn't have a family, like my kids wouldn't respect me. I was just on that verge where my kids would not respect me no more.

• 5:05Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 5:05Mike Tyson?

One month later, a clip of it is so frightening.

• 5:08Lewis Howes?

Wow. How did it feel when they weren't respecting, when they started to not respect you?

• 5:12Mike Tyson?

I don't know, I felt like dying. I wanted to kill myself.

• 5:14Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 5:15Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 5:17Mike Tyson?

I thought of having my children, they didn't respect me, they wouldn't live anymore.

• 5:21Lewis Howes?

Wow. How old were you then?

• 5:24Mike Tyson?

  Um, thirty-nine.

• 5:26Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 5:26Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 5:28Lewis Howes?

So that was a big wake-up call for you, that was something that...

• 5:30Mike Tyson?

  Yeah, pretty big, yeah.

• 5:31Lewis Howes?

So how did you start to shift to get their respect again?

• 5:34Mike Tyson?

  It was hard.

• 5:35Lewis Howes?

Because it was forty years of conditioning.

• 5:37Mike Tyson?

It was so, it was so hard. You just had to, um, you had to be available, you had to come to work, you had to show up. You know, you had gratitude.

• 5:50Lewis Howes?

Do you have a lot of gratitude in your life right now?

• 5:51Mike Tyson?

Oh, I've been beaten in submission, so I have a lot of gratitude, yeah.

• 5:56Lewis Howes?

Yeah. What was the biggest beat down you've ever had? Whether it be physically, or emotionally, or spiritually?

• 6:03Mike Tyson?

I lost my four-year-old daughter, she accidentally killed herself for accident.

• 6:06Lewis Howes?

  Oh, man.

• 6:07Mike Tyson?

She jumped on a treadmill. She didn't know how to work it and she got hurt.

• 6:12Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 6:13Mike Tyson?

So, um, after that, I didn't know what to do.

• 6:17Mike Tyson?

You just didn't know what to do.

• 6:21Lewis Howes?

  How'd you recover from that?

• 6:23Mike Tyson?

  I didn't have it.

• 6:26Mike Tyson?

I just know in order to make her happy, I have to do good things and be positive.

• 6:31Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 6:33Lewis Howes?

Wow. Were you, did you ever think positive before that moment or when you were fighting as well? Or was it always negative?

• 6:40Mike Tyson?

No, it was always about me. It was always about my

• 6:45Mike Tyson?

  everybody else.

• 6:46Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 6:49Mike Tyson?

You know, I would give people money and stuff, you know. I was capable of being kind to people, nice to people, but it didn't matter. I just wanted what I wanted and that's all that mattered.

• 6:57Lewis Howes?

Right. Why do you think we care so much about those things about like what we win or what we get? Why do you think men in general?

• 7:04Mike Tyson?

Because, um, listen, this is what happens.

• 7:09Mike Tyson?

Us as little kids, especially boys, what we hear, we think of great men all the time. We think of people that we hear, you hear about that guy knocked that guy out of the corner of the corner? What was his name again? We always hear a legend. We hear about Jim Brown. We hear about Bruce Lee. We hear about all these guys. And we want to know how this bad ass is telling me about these guys. I'm scared of this guy that's telling me about these guys.

• 7:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 7:32Mike Tyson?

So I want to be like these guys for guys like this could be afraid of me or respect me or something, you know?

• 7:37Speaker 02

  And it's ancient.

• 7:38Mike Tyson?

  Yes.

• 7:39Speaker 02

Very ancient, knights slaying the dragons, you know, going out on a hunt.

• 7:44Mike Tyson?

Like Jim Brown, the football player?

• 7:45Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, he's a legend.

• 7:46Mike Tyson?

I didn't know he was a football player. I was from the streets. I thought he was a bad kicking in the street. I didn't know he was a football player. I thought he was a bad

• 7:55Mike Tyson?

I had no idea he was a football player until I got older.

• 7:58Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 7:58Speaker 02

  That's awesome.

• 8:00Lewis Howes?

Why do you think you wanted, uh, respect was the thing you wanted the most from people?

• 8:04Mike Tyson?

Because they bullied me all the time. Everybody picked on me.

• 8:07Lewis Howes?

Why do you think they picked on you?

• 8:09Mike Tyson?

I don't know. Because I had nobody to protect me. I had no, um, you know, there's some people in the neighborhood that got very intimidating families. They may have 20 kids in the family.

• 8:19Lewis Howes?

You're not going to mess with those kids.

• 8:20Mike Tyson?

  And they're very aggressive.

• 8:21Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 8:22Mike Tyson?

Cousins and their brothers and everything. They're very aggressive. So we don't bother those guys.

• 8:26Lewis Howes?

Yeah, because they got a family to get behind you. Yeah. You had no family to get behind you.

• 8:30Mike Tyson?

I had no family like that, no.

• 8:31Lewis Howes?

  Dang.

• 8:34Speaker 02

What do you think about that, Louis? Why do people, what is the thing about bullying? Is it that we're programmed to gain superiority over others?

• 8:43Lewis Howes?

I think bullies are very insecure. And they wanna feel, they wanna feel in power. And they, they're actually powerless. And so they create scenarios to have power over other people, to feel like they're in control. You know, they're very insecure. I think we've all bullied at some time, whether it be one person, or a group of people, or, you know, in a relationship. I think we've all, our fault of it. Uh, because we want to feel a sense of control, or power, or certainty. And that lack of certainty, you know, when you're 12 years old, growing up, you have no certainty. It's like, who am I? What am I doing? You know, we have no certainty.

• 9:19Mike Tyson?

You know, the fact is, as we talk, really look at this, as we talk, Evan, when you think about it, it's, it's these few questions, and I'm checking out. Who are you?

• 9:28Lewis Howes?

Yeah. No one knows when you're 12.

• 9:30Mike Tyson?

Yeah. Where have you came from?

• 9:32Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 9:32Mike Tyson?

What is your purpose? Why are you breathing? Why do you look the way you do?

• 9:37Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 9:38Mike Tyson?

Who's the first you? That, that, you know, you ought to make your existence, the first one, probably a million years ago, 10 million years ago. Who is he? What did he look like? Was he black? Was he Asian?

• 9:47Lewis Howes?

  Crazy, right?

• 9:48Mike Tyson?

We don't even know who the first us was.

• 9:51Lewis Howes?

Why do you think you're here, Mike?

• 9:53Mike Tyson?

  Excuse me?

• 9:53Lewis Howes?

Why do you think you're here?

• 9:55Mike Tyson?

Why do I think I'm here? To understand the world.

• 9:57Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 9:58Mike Tyson?

Before I die. To, to be lucky to understand it, and be conscious of it before I die.

• 10:03Lewis Howes?

What would you say to your 20-year-old self that just is about to win the title?

• 10:09Mike Tyson?

I always think about the world now that I'm one with everything. That we're all, we're involved with everything. I'm involved with the [BLEEP]. I'm involved with the bugs. I'm involved with the ants, the butterflies, the cats, the dogs. I'm one with everything. The clouds, the sewage, everything. The cars, smoke, everything. I'm one with it all.

• 10:29Lewis Howes?

What did you think back then?

• 10:31Mike Tyson?

  Excuse me?

• 10:32Lewis Howes?

What did you think, uh, your understanding of the world was when you were 20?

• 10:36Mike Tyson?

  When I was 20?

• 10:37Lewis Howes?

What was your viewpoint of the world?

• 10:39Mike Tyson?

Um, I had no viewpoint. Only thing I knew was, um, these guys were great champions and I wanted to be like them.

• 10:47Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 10:47Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 10:48Lewis Howes?

It's interesting. I remember when I was a kid, when I was five, I would watch, um, college football with my dad on TV. I would watch Ohio State Buckeyes. I'm from Ohio. Small town in Ohio called Delaware, Ohio. And I would see the All-Americans on TV and my dad would get so excited about the All-American football players at Ohio State. And I was like, because my dad talked about it, that's what I wanted to be. And so my whole life became, how do I become an All-American athlete? And that was the only thing I cared about. And then when it was over, I was like, well, who am I and what do I do with my life? Just kind of like when you retired from football, this identity.

• 11:21Mike Tyson?

Dick Buckets, all those guys had to deal with that.

• 11:24Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 11:25Mike Tyson?

Imagine being so immortal on the, on the, on the football field and then that stops.

• 11:30Lewis Howes?

Stops. And then you live in the past constantly.

• 11:32Mike Tyson?

You can't help it. How could you not help it? Tell me that. Especially in the 50s and stuff when people wasn't elevated or after we done with this, if we haven't saved up, we're

• 11:42Lewis Howes?

  Screwed.

• 11:42Mike Tyson?

If we didn't save up after this career, we're, we're in the gutter again. I don't care, black, white, Chinese, unless somebody, somebody such a big fan, they're rich guys, I loved them when I played and they gave you a job. That's what happened to a lot of those guys. They became salesmen for the big corporations because guys loved them when they were playing.

• 11:58Lewis Howes?

But then the glory was over though, you know?

• 12:00Speaker 02

It's the ultimate endeavor to have to reinvent yourself. And everyone has to do that.

• 12:07Lewis Howes?

  All the time.

• 12:08Speaker 02

  All the time.

• 12:09Lewis Howes?

Every couple of years, it's almost like you have to.

• 12:10Speaker 02

All the time. Shedding skins, letting go, transforming your mindset and your thoughts.

• 12:16Lewis Howes?

Yeah. What was it like for you when you had to reinvent through financially? Because you went, I think you went bankrupt once or twice or, you know, how did you rebuild and reinvent from a place of, man, I just had everything and now I've lost it for whatever reason?

• 12:32Mike Tyson?

No, I had everything and next thing you know, I'm 60 million in debt.

• 12:37Lewis Howes?

Now you owe, now you owe everything.

• 12:39Speaker 02

  Could you imagine, dude?

• 12:41Lewis Howes?

  You owe everything now.

• 12:43Mike Tyson?

  A million.

• 12:43Lewis Howes?

How'd you get out of that?

• 12:47Mike Tyson?

Listen, right? For some reason, they thought I was trying to get out, get out, to get a deal to get out of this bankruptcy. They thought I was gonna still fight. I had no intention of fighting. They said, "You gotta fight, you gotta get out of this deal, then you gonna fight for a whole bunch of money." And sucker us. So they kept thinking I was gonna fight, and they wouldn't give me deals. And so I just, this was, I just kept paying a little bit at a time, make some money, I kept paying them. And then, next thing you know, I would owe them money for so long, they would say, "Hey, you owe this for so long, so we're gonna decline you owing us this for so, because you're not paying us. You owed this for so long, so now you owe us five million, or we're gonna take seven to five million off." And so that's how I was getting down, and so they said, "All right, we're gonna take this off too." And I wind up owing them two million dollars, and I paid that, and it was over. Done.

• 13:29Lewis Howes?

  Nice.

• 13:29Mike Tyson?

Wow. They just kept taking it down, "Well, you haven't paid us seven months. If you don't pay this in seven months, we're gonna take twenty million off," or something like that. Never pay them.

• 13:38Mike Tyson?

How could they do that? They're supposed to take everything. I was living the man. They're supposed to took all that. How did that happen? Interesting. I was thinking, "How the hell I'm keeping all this? Why they not coming to take this stuff?" Interesting. Yeah, they never came to take anything.

• 13:52Lewis Howes?

What do you think the moment, what was the?

• 13:53Mike Tyson?

I had cars and stuff, I couldn't ride them, because I couldn't have money to put gas in them. That Rolls Royce, I can't ride them, got no gas.

• 14:00Lewis Howes?

  Just sitting there, yeah, yeah.

• 14:01Mike Tyson?

  That's so crazy, Mike. Crazy.

• 14:04Lewis Howes?

Was there a moment in your life, was it maybe the bankruptcy, or when your daughter died, or when you lost respect with your, your kids? Was there a moment when like, things really started to shift in your mind to say, "Okay, I need to figure this stuff out, I need to really..."

• 14:18Mike Tyson?

I didn't have the slightest idea. I got involved with this woman, who's now my wife, right? And she just kept saying, "Everything's gonna be all right. We're gonna write a show, we're gonna produce television shows and movies, and this is gonna be over." I'm looking at her, and I'm still strung out on drugs, and I'm looking at her, this... It's a news, you know? And the next thing you know, we were talking about, we went and saw Chaz Palminteria Bronx Tale, but we saw it on stage. It was magnificent. It was, um... It was so quiet, you could hear a mouse on cotton. He was so captivating. You know what I mean? This guy was so captivating. Chad Palmer Terry was so captivating. Everybody was so quiet, you could hear every. And I said, baby, I want to do that. Baby, I do that before, like when I go to Europe.

• 15:02Mike Tyson?

People ask me questions and I answer the question. But this time I just want to answer the question. I do it, you know, I mean theatrically like Mr. Palmer Terry. And she was writing the script and we were rehearsing. She was writing the script. We didn't know how we were going to ever do it. And then a friend of mine was at the gym where I work at. And a guy was there. Don't Mike Tyson work here? He said, yeah. He said, if you ever see him, give him my card. I want to do a show with him.

• 15:26Speaker 02

  Whoa, bro.

• 15:27Mike Tyson?

  Came out of nowhere.

• 15:28Speaker 02

  Manifesting that.

• 15:29Mike Tyson?

Manifesting that. Came out the universe a week later. So she be, so we called the guy. It took my wife, I think, six weeks to write the show. Wow. Her first show ever. We did the show, standing room over, knockout blast all over the world. Knocked the country out. We did it on Broadway for three weeks.

• 15:47Speaker 02

  First show in Vegas?

• 15:49Mike Tyson?

Yeah, on Vegas, it was knocked everybody out. Everybody came in town, always. So one of Spike Lee's assistants came and saw the show and said, Spike, I think we should get into this. And then Spike said, want to go to Broadway? I was in Poland. He called me, he said, want to go to Broadway? We went to Broadway. Listen, we went to Broadway. Everybody came, all the Broadway shows and actresses and actors came. Stevie Wonder, it's everybody came, all the actors. We did it on a pandear here in California. All the people from the sets came, all the actors and actors. It's everybody came, it was so awesome. I couldn't believe we could ever do something like that. Be on that level where they would come watch us do something other than a fight. Something that I'm not going to get hurt doing. I did that, you know? I said, wow, I'm performing, these guys are coming and they enjoying it.

• 16:32Speaker 02

Mike, I've heard you talk about this a lot. But how did you feel being so honest and vulnerable about your experiences? Was that the first time you had really done that? I mean.

• 16:47Mike Tyson?

Yeah, kind of, but listen, it was embarrassing at first, but the people knew all this. People that was old, they knew they saw what happened in the paper. They read the paper, they saw what happened, they saw what happened. People complained about on television. So I couldn't, everybody knew what happened. So I had to be very honest.

• 17:03Lewis Howes?

You did the eight, you were the eight mile move. It was like the end of eight mile, we're just like, here's everything I did, you know, I'm gonna say it all.

• 17:09Mike Tyson?

Yeah, yeah, everybody knew it, but they just never heard me say it, but they all knew it. That's the only way. Yeah, everybody knew, it wasn't no secrets.

• 17:15Lewis Howes?

I, I watched, I didn't watch it live, I wanted to when it was on Broadway, but I remember watching it on, on, was it HBO or?

• 17:21Mike Tyson?

  One of those shows.

• 17:22Lewis Howes?

Yeah, something like that. And my friend saw it and he's like, you have to watch this. He goes, it's one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. And I was like, no fricking way. Mike Tyson doing a one man show, I was like, there's no way. And I turned this thing on, and I'm not, I'm not just saying this because you're here. I turned this thing on and I was like, wow, you're an incredible storyteller and incredible performer. You know, obviously you're a great performer as an athlete, but you transitioned. And I don't think anyone saw it coming that you had that capacity and capability to captivate an audience, whether it be live or TV audience. And you did an incredible job, man.

• 17:59Mike Tyson?

  Thank you, thank you.

• 18:00Lewis Howes?

  It was inspiring.

• 18:01Mike Tyson?

Listen, Evan, my wife, it was supposed to be a gritty hardcore show, a hardcore guy that came out. He came out like a cock. They made that at my hard, tough life.

• 18:12Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:13Mike Tyson?

You know, I'm talking about not having a father. The people who broke our left side ran back to me. I said, babe, what's going on, what's happening, why they laughing, why they laughing? He said, it's called, keep it going, keep it going.

• 18:21Lewis Howes?

  It's good.

• 18:22Mike Tyson?

Keep it going, they laughing, keep it going.

• 18:23Lewis Howes?

What was the biggest lesson you learned about yourself after that whole experience had finished?

• 18:28Mike Tyson?

Um, that shouldn't be too hard on myself. You know, that should be, I should be more appreciative of what I've accomplished from where I've came from. That's amazing.

• 18:38Lewis Howes?

Are you usually hard on yourself?

• 18:40Mike Tyson?

  Absolutely.

• 18:41Lewis Howes?

  Why?

• 18:42Mike Tyson?

I don't know, that's all I've ever known, cause if I made mistakes, um, I got harshly, you know what I mean, verbally punished, you know, you heard some bad stuff.

• 18:50Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 18:51Mike Tyson?

You heard some stuff you didn't wanna hear. So you get yourself, you get yourself numb to that by calling yourself that all the time.

• 18:57Lewis Howes?

  I'm a loser, I suck.

• 18:59Mike Tyson?

Yeah, what the [__] you do, you're stupid. You're dumb. How could you do that?

• 19:05Lewis Howes?

Yeah. What do you, what do you say to yourself now?

• 19:08Mike Tyson?

  Huh?

• 19:08Lewis Howes?

What, what's the conversation you say to yourself?

• 19:10Mike Tyson?

Oh, I love myself, I love my kids. Isn't your, your kids awesome? Aren't you very lucky that you have your wife? What would you be without her?

• 19:17Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's beautiful, man.

• 19:20Lewis Howes?

  It's unbelievable.

• 19:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 19:21Lewis Howes?

I mean, if Mike Tyson can transform.

• 19:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 19:23Lewis Howes?

You know what I mean? As a, as a example of a man who's gone through a lot of trauma.

• 19:28Mike Tyson?

Life prepares you. Life prepares you for everything. Prepares you for doing a hundred years in jail, prepares you for getting ready to go to the electric chair, prepares you for death. You know what I mean? When, um, when life is enduring with you, when you're enduring with life and you're making the age limits, going to your fifties, your sixties, your eighties, and you're making it up there, you're prepared. All your friends are no longer around, most of your family, most of them not around. What [__] am I doing here? Then we go.

• 19:56Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 19:57Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 19:58Lewis Howes?

What's the thing that's prepared you, um, the most? What experience that you've gone through, uh, do you think has prepared you the most for where you're at now?

• 20:08Mike Tyson?

Yes, um, dropping my ego. I mean, I think my life would be ja- uh, disastrous if I never took the toad. I took this, um, ancient medicine, the toad. Right, and, um, it's changed my whole perspective on how I look at life and how I look at people and how I talk to people.

• 20:24Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 20:25Speaker 02

  You know about the toad?

• 20:27Lewis Howes?

  No.

• 20:27Mike Tyson?

Wow, why don't you educate, what, educate? This is gonna be very interesting.

• 20:30Lewis Howes?

  Tell me.

• 20:31Mike Tyson?

  You're an awesome guy.

• 20:31Lewis Howes?

  Thank you.

• 20:32Speaker 02

So you know, you know about ayahuasca?

• 20:35Lewis Howes?

  Of course, yeah, yeah.

• 20:36Speaker 02

So the active ingredient in there is DMT.

• 20:39Lewis Howes?

  Yep.

• 20:39Speaker 02

So the toad, from its venom, which they extract, um, and then dry it over a certain period of time, it crystallizes, it contains five M E O D M T. Which, from the way I understand it, is DMT with an extra methyl oxy group attached to it.

• 21:00Lewis Howes?

What's that mean? Ooh. Like, super steroided, like.

• 21:03Speaker 02

So it's supercharged to your brain. So it crosses the blood-brain barrier faster.

• 21:09Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 21:10Speaker 02

And so, you know, it does, you vaporize it. And it does very much the same things as DMT, but it's, it's, it's really the top of the pyramid as far as entheogenic substances.

• 21:23Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 21:23Speaker 02

Um, and so, you know, people are cured of depression and addiction and, you know, are released of trauma and pain.

• 21:32Lewis Howes?

  Right, yeah.

• 21:33Speaker 02

  Um, and so Mike.

• 21:34Lewis Howes?

  So you did it.

• 21:35Speaker 02

  Had a very transformational experience.

• 21:37Mike Tyson?

Quite a few times, and, um, listen, if you take this, um, medicine, um,

• 21:45Mike Tyson?

it's a possibility you may feel like God.

• 21:47Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 21:48Mike Tyson?

And then you may have a small encounter with God and say, oh, God, please forgive me, I'm sorry.

• 21:54Lewis Howes?

Is that what happened for you?

• 21:55Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 21:56Lewis Howes?

  What was the encounter like?

• 21:59Mike Tyson?

I felt the pain of everybody I ever hurt before in my life.

• 22:01Lewis Howes?

Wow. That sounds pain, that feels, that's fine.

• 22:06Mike Tyson?

Please, Lord, I'm sorry, this is crazy.

• 22:09Lewis Howes?

You felt the pain of everyone you hurt, how many people do you think you've hurt?

• 22:11Mike Tyson?

  Oh, man.

• 22:14Lewis Howes?

  Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands.

• 22:16Mike Tyson?

The pain, it's, it's so amazing, that pain that you could feel, it was, I had nobody, it was nothing. I just existed.

• 22:23Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:23Mike Tyson?

And you could, you feel everything. You're feeling, you're, I didn't understand, it's like being dead. You're vulnerable as hell, there's no ego, you're afraid of everything.

• 22:32Lewis Howes?

  Naked, yeah.

• 22:33Mike Tyson?

Yeah. Yes, please, don't hurt me, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please, God, please.

• 22:39Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:39Mike Tyson?

You know, you don't even see nobody, you're scared, you have to feel, you have to feel scared, I'm sorry, please. It's just, I don't, I don't understand it, and I've never been the same since I did it.

• 22:50Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:50Mike Tyson?

I only, I don't think about hurting people, I don't think about loving people, you still, you still wanna do that stuff anymore.

• 22:56Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 22:57Mike Tyson?

You know, I've, I've never been the same since I died, you went in my, in my, um, time of life. I'm talking a little faster, my time of life, I thought I seen it all, I thought I been everywhere, I think I everybody, drank everybody, smoked everybody, I did it all. And I realized I don't know nothing, and I'm nobody.

• 23:13Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 23:14Mike Tyson?

  I don't know anything. I don't know where I came from.

• 23:20Mike Tyson?

I don't know my real name. I mean, somebody named me Mike. I don't know the I am.

• 23:25Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 23:26Mike Tyson?

  I'm just here.

• 23:28Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 23:29Speaker 02

It's been pretty amazing to be on this ride with Mike and it's just crazy

• 23:36Speaker 02

amount of wisdom and insight that comes from spending time with this guy.

• 23:43Mike Tyson?

And I always used God as the way to be in. I was never really, I knew of God, but I always, I didn't, I was, it was always, it wasn't bigger than me.

• 23:52Lewis Howes?

You were the, you were bigger than God.

• 23:53Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 23:54Lewis Howes?

  You were God.

• 23:54Mike Tyson?

Yeah, yeah, my thick head and then you realize that you have to get on your knees. You don't know what his name is, but you know, you have to worship.

• 24:01Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 24:01Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 24:04Mike Tyson?

  After taking the toll, yeah.

• 24:05Lewis Howes?

Once you've been humbled a certain amount of times, then you're like, okay, I'm not God anymore, right?

• 24:10Mike Tyson?

Listen, listen, I tell you about that ego. Even though you're humble, you stop, he's still there. Don't let him look at the, I might look around and look at the reflections and wow, I'm handsome. And it comes, the ego's, once you take the toll, you know, he ain't.

• 24:23Lewis Howes?

Yeah. How do you let go of ego? And how do you, what advice would you give to men who are so ego driven? What would you say to them on how to like, let it go when they're so attached to it?

• 24:36Mike Tyson?

Listen, I'm gonna tell you something about the ego. From my experience, my, I'm nothing but just a junkyard, cutty kid, right? But my, I had nothing, had nothing. This, this old Italian man gave me an ego. Right? And he gave me everything I wanted. The ego gave me everything I ever wanted and more, but it took so much more in return.

• 24:55Lewis Howes?

  What did it take?

• 24:56Mike Tyson?

  Took everything.

• 24:57Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 24:59Mike Tyson?

Took everything. Been in prison, took everything.

• 25:02Lewis Howes?

  Family, love.

• 25:03Mike Tyson?

Yeah, well, you don't care no more. You're almost an animal.

• 25:06Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 25:07Mike Tyson?

You know? Oh, I'll never want to go there again.

• 25:11Lewis Howes?

  Wow, man.

• 25:11Mike Tyson?

Why you want to live like an animal when you could just say, give it up? Hey, I don't want to do that no more. I love you.

• 25:16Lewis Howes?

  Wow. It's amazing.

• 25:18Mike Tyson?

  Crazy.

• 25:20Speaker 02

  It's awesome.

• 25:20Lewis Howes?

What's, what's the thing, the lesson you've still yet to learn for yourself to, to get to that next level that you want to be at? Is there a lesson or is there a challenge that you're struggling with, a question inside that still keeps you from more love, more fulfillment, impact? What is that?

• 25:37Mike Tyson?

Um, why me? Who the am I? Why do millions of people know me and think of me in nice ways? Why me? Why did I have to meet this guy? He had nothing, he is died broken. But how did he give me the tricks that he had to give me what I want? You know, why me? Why did he? How did he know I was the guy for this job?

• 25:58Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 25:59Mike Tyson?

I never had a boxing glove all my life. I never thought about sports. Never played sports, but how did he know I was the guy?

• 26:05Speaker 02

  The universe.

• 26:06Mike Tyson?

Yeah. How did this guy know? That blows me away. How this guy knows?

• 26:15Mike Tyson?

  Crazy.

• 26:16Lewis Howes?

What do you think the world needs more of right now? What is it? What's it missing?

• 26:24Mike Tyson?

Listen, I don't know. I can't say no. I can only say love, kindness, passion, patience, you know, among each other. Look at each other as equals, you know? Everyone can't succeed in one particular way. We could all succeed if we work together in any way.

• 26:45Lewis Howes?

  So true.

• 26:46Mike Tyson?

  You know, any way.

• 26:47Lewis Howes?

No one wins unless we all win.

• 26:49Mike Tyson?

Exactly. And the conduct of one is the fate of us all. And this billionaires of all, the conduct of one is the fate of us all.

• 26:59Lewis Howes?

Say that one more time, the conduct of one?

• 27:00Mike Tyson?

The conduct of one of us is the fate of all of us.

• 27:05Lewis Howes?

What does that mean for you? What does that mean to you?

• 27:08Mike Tyson?

That we all have to be in sync with one another.

• 27:12Mike Tyson?

One guy robs a store and murders some people, that's the fate of all of us. One guy kills a guy because he's a different color, a different religion, that's the fate of all of us.

• 27:24Speaker 02

  Some powerful.

• 27:25Lewis Howes?

  Is he always this disciple?

• 27:27Speaker 02

Yeah, he is, man. I mean, and that's just really, to me, why I think I've connected with Mike so much is, you know, through my career in the NFL and coming out of it. This dissolution of ego that's taken place for me over the last four and a half years. You know, ego is just, it crushes you, really, at the end of the day. Because that's the thing that ties you into all of your desires and ideas about who you are and what you're supposed to be in this manufactured realm.

• 28:03Mike Tyson?

And it chases everybody that loves you away.

• 28:06Speaker 02

  Exactly.

• 28:06Mike Tyson?

You only have your motherfuckers around you.

• 28:09Speaker 02

  It's never enough.

• 28:10Mike Tyson?

Your ego can never have nobody you love around you. It won't work.

• 28:13Lewis Howes?

  Why is that?

• 28:14Mike Tyson?

If somebody loves you and your ego's acting up and it's controlling you, you can't have them.

• 28:19Lewis Howes?

You push them away, yeah, yeah.

• 28:20Mike Tyson?

You, you, you slammed them away. They can't.

• 28:24Lewis Howes?

No matter how much they try to love you, you're just like.

• 28:26Mike Tyson?

Can't do it. Can't do it. Won't work.

• 28:29Speaker 02

Because you're never satisfied. You're never filled. That hole is never full, you know? Not enough women, not enough cars, not enough money, not enough.

• 28:41Lewis Howes?

  Accomplishments, press.

• 28:42Speaker 02

Not enough consumption. There's not enough to just consume and feed that thing. Feed that beast.

• 28:49Mike Tyson?

And that kind of sickness, if you can't have it all, you rather have nothing. Because it's not enough. It's not, it's not, if it's not all of it, I'd rather have nothing.

• 28:56Lewis Howes?

Is that what happened to you?

• 28:57Mike Tyson?

Yeah, I'd rather have nothing. If I can't have everyone, everything, every girl, every drug, every every movie star, if I can't have every one of them, all of them, I'd rather have nothing.

• 29:06Lewis Howes?

  Really?

• 29:07Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 29:08Lewis Howes?

How many, how many women do you think you've been with?

• 29:09Mike Tyson?

I don't know. Not, I'm not proud of it, though.

• 29:12Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 29:12Mike Tyson?

Not the stuff that I'm proud of.

• 29:13Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 29:14Mike Tyson?

Because I don't even know why I did it.

• 29:16Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 29:17Mike Tyson?

I don't know what was the purpose of it.

• 29:18Lewis Howes?

To try to fulfill something that we were missing.

• 29:20Mike Tyson?

No, it was, listen, um, I wanted those women to love me.

• 29:26Lewis Howes?

  Why?

• 29:28Mike Tyson?

  Because I didn't love myself.

• 29:29Lewis Howes?

Wow. Did you let them love you?

• 29:32Mike Tyson?

No way. How can I not love myself? I gotta let them love me. My love was to make me

• 29:38Lewis Howes?

  Right.

• 29:38Mike Tyson?

Or to tell me I was great, to tell me that was the best you ever had. That was my ego.

• 29:42Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 29:43Mike Tyson?

You know what I mean? That was my fulfillment. I would pay you up on your house or car. I'm the best on earth.

• 29:50Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 29:53Lewis Howes?

What's um, how long have you been together with your wife?

• 29:58Mike Tyson?

Ten, no, well, more than ten, we're married ten years.

• 30:01Lewis Howes?

What's the greatest lesson she's taught you in the last ten years?

• 30:05Mike Tyson?

  That I don't own her.

• 30:08Lewis Howes?

Did you used to feel like you owned the relationships?

• 30:10Mike Tyson?

I owned everything that was in my presence.

• 30:12Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 30:12Mike Tyson?

You're around me, you're at the work, I own you mother. You're around me, you're a fan, you're around me, I own you mother.

• 30:18Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 30:19Mike Tyson?

Fan, I own you mother, you're around me, you're in my presence, you want, you anything, you you you accept anything from me, you, I own you.

• 30:26Lewis Howes?

You owe me, I own you, yeah.

• 30:27Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 30:28Lewis Howes?

So, how, when did she say, you don't own me, what what was that like when she confronted you and said, hey, you don't own me?

• 30:34Mike Tyson?

Listen, let me tell you, have you ever been married?

• 30:36Lewis Howes?

  No, I've never been married.

• 30:36Mike Tyson?

Let me tell you something, you, I'm telling you something, marriage is something that, it's like a roller coaster, right? And it's really scary because the roller coaster goes up and it gets to the top and it's making a lot of noise and that's the beginning, we're making a lot of noise by being in love and then we get to the top and then we come down, fast. And um, you can't grow, you can't um, you can't learn this stuff, you gotta grow with this stuff.

• 31:00Lewis Howes?

Yeah, you gotta go through it.

• 31:01Mike Tyson?

You can't get ready for this, you can't prepare for this, you know what I mean? You're gonna find out, me, you and this person really care about each other, love is out of the question now, we're married, love. Now, how about, how determined you are to make this work for the betterment of your children, your name, God, you know what I mean? How tough are you now, you're a tough guy, I want to see how tough you are, you beat up a lot of people, let's see how tough you are with this.

• 31:24Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 31:26Mike Tyson?

You know what I mean, this is, this is for God, let's see how tough you did this, for money, let's see what you could do for God.

• 31:35Lewis Howes?

What's the greatest, what's the thing you love about her the most now?

• 31:39Mike Tyson?

Right now, that she puts up with me, she put up with me for all those years, I can't, I can't believe, can you believe we're still married?

• 31:45Lewis Howes?

  Ten years, yeah, wow.

• 31:47Mike Tyson?

And then I ran into the toad.

• 31:49Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 31:49Mike Tyson?

  Oh, man.

• 31:52Lewis Howes?

  Toad life.

• 31:53Speaker 02

  Toad life.

• 31:54Lewis Howes?

  Toad life up in here.

• 31:55Speaker 02

Toad life. You really have to cultivate a marriage, man. You have to work at it.

• 32:00Lewis Howes?

  You been married?

• 32:01Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 32:01Lewis Howes?

You're married right now? You got two kids, you said, or?

• 32:03Speaker 02

  One kid.

• 32:03Lewis Howes?

  One kid, two year old?

• 32:04Speaker 02

  Seven year old.

• 32:04Lewis Howes?

  Seven year old, wow.

• 32:06Mike Tyson?

Once you reach that spot where you understand, hey, we have to watch, we have to take care of ourselves. We have to make sure our side of the street is clean. I can't worry about her side of the street.

• 32:14Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 32:15Mike Tyson?

I gotta make sure my side of the street is clean.

• 32:17Speaker 02

  That's a key.

• 32:17Lewis Howes?

  Give me the-

• 32:18Speaker 02

  It's an absolute key.

• 32:19Lewis Howes?

I'm not married. I've never been married, but give me the keys to getting into a marriage that's happy and staying in a happy one. Give me your top three each. I want to hear.

• 32:30Mike Tyson?

  Listen, time.

• 32:30Speaker 02

  Don't take anything personal.

• 32:32Mike Tyson?

Never personal. If she says things that make-

• 32:34Lewis Howes?

How do you not take it personal when it's wrong?

• 32:36Speaker 02

It takes a lot of practice.

• 32:37Mike Tyson?

No, not wrong because, no, it's triggers.

• 32:39Lewis Howes?

  When they're attacking you.

• 32:41Mike Tyson?

No, we have triggers from other relationships and other lives.

• 32:43Speaker 02

  And our life, yeah.

• 32:44Mike Tyson?

They hit those triggers and we blame them for the trouble that everybody else caused us. Because they pressed those buttons, brought that pain back up.

• 32:51Lewis Howes?

So how do you not take it personally when they're like, you mother-

• 32:54Speaker 02

It takes a lot of practice.

• 32:55Mike Tyson?

You learn not to take it personally.

• 32:57Lewis Howes?

  Okay.

• 32:57Mike Tyson?

And you say, and this time I love you.

• 32:59Speaker 02

  It doesn't just happen.

• 33:00Lewis Howes?

  It disarms them. Yeah, yeah.

• 33:01Speaker 02

Always coming back to, I love you.

• 33:04Mike Tyson?

I love you. Please, I love you.

• 33:05Speaker 02

Remember how much you love them.

• 33:07Mike Tyson?

  I love them so much.

• 33:08Speaker 02

And remind yourself of it. And for me, it's

• 33:16Speaker 02

it's about taking the energy that I bring into life because we can take our families for granted.

• 33:23Lewis Howes?

  Yes.

• 33:24Speaker 02

You know, and we fall into just autopilot, you know, programmed mechanisms with our family, especially with an intimate relationship. And so, over that time, like what Mike was saying, when that love or that lusty, super hot sex time wears off because it's going to, because we are, as human beings, we are chemically programmed into that, especially men. You know, you are biologically, evolutionarily programmed to procreate and spread your seed. You know, so this is something that we have to battle, or at least learn how to hone and control.

• 34:04Mike Tyson?

And listen, this is what I found out too. You remember when you said it comes a time when you still want to do it no more? And say, Mr. Cooper, you still like to do, but it's not like it used to be. That's because God prepares you to, you know what I mean? Sometimes when you're younger, it has to go. You know? And when you get older, it's not that important.

• 34:20Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 34:20Mike Tyson?

You don't care as much. That's why God made it feel good.

• 34:23Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 34:24Mike Tyson?

Because even when you're older now, it's not that important, but it still feels good. I feel like feeling good right now.

• 34:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 34:29Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 34:29Speaker 02

So you have to come home and you have to create that romance and that love again. You know?

• 34:38Mike Tyson?

Because your wife would totally lose it. She would lose, she'd pick something up, you know? Why you not being this way? You with somebody else this way? Women pick things up, they're very sensitive, pick up things. You have to be consistent, the same thing all the time. All the time. Stop one time or something, they pick up something. Consistency with women. I learned that late, to be consistent. Have to be consistent, consistent, never change your colors. Wow. Because they would pick that up quick, the first thing they pick, hey. One day you change? One second.

• 35:04Speaker 02

  Well, that's why communication.

• 35:06Mike Tyson?

One second, she picks it up, they're different than we are.

• 35:08Speaker 02

  Communication.

• 35:09Mike Tyson?

You see a whole bunch of people in here? If my wife was in here, we're all talking, my wife would remember hearing only my voice. Everybody's talking, she remember everything I said. Everybody's talking, but she gonna hear my voice. That's how women are, they get tuned into your voice, everything about you, your characteristics. They wanna know you. They want to be the puppet master, not, not, they just wanna know what it's, they don't wanna be the puppet master, they just wanna know every move you make. Yeah, wow.

• 35:33Speaker 02

  Yes. And communication.

• 35:35Mike Tyson?

  Yeah. Communication.

• 35:36Speaker 02

That's the, that's the third, for sure.

• 35:38Mike Tyson?

  Communication, don't take things personally.

• 35:41Speaker 02

Yep. And just remember how much you love them.

• 35:44Mike Tyson?

And listen, please communicate, because something that happened six months ago, you won't know it till the outbursts come out. And you go, what the hell happened? That's six months ago, what? Always communicate, is anything okay, baby? Sure, nothing on your mind, you don't wanna talk about anything? Every day, yeah. Oh, I've learned that late, I started doing that recently, like a year ago.

• 36:06Speaker 02

Yeah, that's pretty new for me.

• 36:07Mike Tyson?

  Wow. You too?

• 36:08Speaker 02

Communication is just, that's a constant practice.

• 36:12Mike Tyson?

Evan, my whole life, once I've been married, married, all I did was throw money at my problems. Buy a house, buy your mother's house, buy some cars, you know, get away, I can't deal with no children today. I don't wanna hear what the teacher said today.

• 36:26Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:28Lewis Howes?

That's not what your partner wants from you. They want you to listen and be a partner.

• 36:34Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 36:35Mike Tyson?

They want to know how the money's building. They want to know everything, you know what I mean? And then when you realize you don't have the money that you used to have and you used to, the money is the problem, you have to deal now.

• 36:46Lewis Howes?

  Deal with the problem.

• 36:47Mike Tyson?

And dealing with the problems, that's almost like death. I would have almost died and deal with the problem. I wish I had some money to give a lawyer to deal with the problem.

• 36:56Speaker 02

I definitely confronted that coming out of the NFL.

• 36:59Mike Tyson?

  Oh.

• 37:00Speaker 02

  With my wife.

• 37:01Mike Tyson?

  Yeah, fool.

• 37:02Speaker 02

It was like, oh, wow. Now I'm here in this marriage. And now we, there's nowhere to go.

• 37:08Lewis Howes?

You have all this free time. You're not just at a job all day.

• 37:11Mike Tyson?

Ever, you know what? Remember one day I was in this, I said, why is it that men and women have to be married? Why is it that we look for a mate? And I tell you, a man needs a woman to make sure that he's a man. Because she'll make sure that we're a man, because she'll test us and try us and push us to the extent, to the extent they see a breaking point.

• 37:29Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:29Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 37:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 37:31Mike Tyson?

And by being a man, you got to control yourself. And that's what they teach us. Once you control yourself, you control your feelings with a woman. She said, I don't want to say submit, but she understand I can't get to her. Why don't you control your feelings? Because we don't have that emotional intelligence to control our feelings with a woman. Because in our mind, I'm macho mind.

• 37:48Lewis Howes?

  We want to react.

• 37:49Mike Tyson?

Oh, she, she making us look like, I said that. No man would ever say that to me.

• 37:53Speaker 02

Well, it's about when, it's about when your confront, when your woman confronts you with something, she's challenging your kingdom. She's challenging your masculinity.

• 38:08Mike Tyson?

  Big time.

• 38:09Speaker 02

  She's saying there's something.

• 38:11Mike Tyson?

Every man go where for it. Every man, I don't care, big, strong, biker, gang banger, tough killer. Every with a woman, you're going to have to deal with that. A lot of people think, I'm going to beat love, I'm going to get all these fellows, I ain't going to marry, I ain't getting caught up.

• 38:24Lewis Howes?

You've met a ton of guys.

• 38:25Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 38:26Lewis Howes?

Billionaires, celebrity, you've met the biggest, you know, influencers in the world, right? Over the last 30, 40 years. I'm curious, is there a man that you know today, or in the past, who's maybe passed away, who feels so much love in his heart and feels like he made it without having a great partner? Like, can he do it alone and just sleep with a bunch of girls, you know, take what he wants?

• 38:52Speaker 02

  Be that guy.

• 38:54Lewis Howes?

Can he be that guy and still be like peaceful and love in his heart, or is he unfulfilled?

• 38:58Mike Tyson?

  Yeah, great. My experience.

• 38:59Speaker 02

  Good question.

• 39:00Mike Tyson?

My experience, a guy that did a lot of stuff, women and stuff, I'm not proud of it. The more women you, you know, you would think the more women you have, the more, um, more crown and achievements you will receive from people, whatever the situation, the player world is. But the more women you, the more women you be with, the more it's been, you feel like you've been taken parts away from you.

• 39:24Speaker 02

  The hole is getting bigger.

• 39:25Mike Tyson?

Yeah, it feels like you're dying. The more they're taken from you, you feel like you're being taken. You're being torn apart, you're feeling empty, you're feeling dark, you feel like, you just don't feel good about yourself.

• 39:36Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 39:36Mike Tyson?

You're just, you [bleep] all these people and you've got nothing from them but a [bleep]. You know? And what did you get from that feeling? Why did you want to have that feeling? What was the cause of you having that feeling? Nobody had no, you know, maybe three people had babies, but it was like, come to be, it's just, what was the purpose of that feeling? I don't feel that way no more. Yeah, I don't move like that no more. And I said, what was the purpose for me to be that way? What did I get out of it? No one got any babies, we got some diseases, we, you know what I mean? Um, nobody got any love from that. What's that perceived as love? What was that, I tell my wife, what was that all about? You think I would meet all these people in the afterlife and stuff? What's the afterlife?

• 40:16Mike Tyson?

What about the people that watched me fight? Would I ever see them again, all of them collectively? If all this stuff go back, where do, where do we all go? Where, what's like the, what you, what you're thinking right now, what am I talking about? That feeling, that energy, where did that go when we die? Like, you're not even talking, but that, you're talking to your hair, where did that go when we die? That can't die. Where does it go? I'm just thinking, does that just blackout? Like you pull out a plug socket, what happens with that?

• 40:44Speaker 02

  Goes back into the circulation.

• 40:47Mike Tyson?

But imagine if it go into a bug, or a rock, or a tree, and we become that.

• 40:52Speaker 02

Yeah. I'm not sure how reincarnation works.

• 40:57Speaker 02

You know, do you come back as another human being? What, you know, and why? What person you come back as?

• 41:04Mike Tyson?

I was telling my wife, my wife hates bugs. Every now and then a bug gets in the house and she freaks out, right? I said, listen, that's probably your grandmother coming back and being called. She wants to see you so bad. As soon as you come back, water.

• 41:17Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 41:18Mike Tyson?

You know, I think it's stuff like that. You know, I think these are people that we love and we see them and we hate them so bad. And they say, Mike, look at me, but they said, so I'm back. I thought I was dead. Hey, Mike, give me, I kill them.

• 41:33Speaker 02

I know, man, I've, I have a new practice. Any bugs, I bring them outside. Cause my wife is the same. She's like, get the spider out of here. I'm like, babe, that thing.

• 41:45Mike Tyson?

I'm not killing nothing. I tell that right there. I'm not killing, you gonna kill, you kill, I'm gonna kill anything.

• 41:50Speaker 02

That might be my new policy.

• 41:52Lewis Howes?

When do you feel the most loved, Mike?

• 41:55Mike Tyson?

When I feel the most loved?

• 41:56Lewis Howes?

When do you feel the most love in your heart?

• 42:00Mike Tyson?

  You know, when?

• 42:03Mike Tyson?

When I'm around watching YouTube and I hear my kids running around and my wife comes up and down after feeding the kids. Maybe come from work and I'll come upstairs and get in the shower, maybe sit on the bed or sit on her chair, electric chair. Put elective vibes to her body and I say, I'm very happy. Everybody's in the house, all my kids are here and that's when I'm the most loved.

• 42:25Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 42:25Mike Tyson?

We're all together. All my oldest kid, the youngest kid, they're all from school, from home. They're all back together in the same house. I feel one love at all.

• 42:33Lewis Howes?

That's awesome. Why do you think that that experience makes you feel the most loved and not something else?

• 42:39Mike Tyson?

Because everything that I love is, um, I feel secured. I feel like, listen, this is a false sense of security. I feel like I can protect them right now. I can't do nothing.

• 42:49Lewis Howes?

Somebody can come in there and do something.

• 42:50Mike Tyson?

Somebody can come in and kill us all with a bat, forget it, right? But this is the fact, I think that they're safe now. Cause they're with me. Boy, that fucking, that's the eagle.

• 42:59Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 43:00Mike Tyson?

I think they're safe because they're with me. Isn't that sick? And I know that, but it just makes me feel.

• 43:07Lewis Howes?

Feels good, yeah, it makes you feel loved.

• 43:08Mike Tyson?

  They're grown too.

• 43:09Speaker 02

It's an interesting breakdown of that, Mike. You took it. All the way through.

• 43:14Mike Tyson?

Yeah, I love them so much. I don't want them to ever, and I see, I say they never experienced anything I experienced. Cause they're kinda people and they did the things and been in prison and got bad records and stuff. They're very clean. They got good stuff. They got good beginnings. I don't got a with them, you know?

• 43:30Lewis Howes?

Well, I, my brother, I don't know how much time you guys have. I'm, I'm just asking some questions, but my, uh, when I was, um, how old was I? I was eight years old. My brother went to prison for selling drugs. So when I was eight until 12, we would drive, uh, you know, a couple hours on the weekend.

• 43:46Mike Tyson?

  The guards treat you like.

• 43:47Lewis Howes?

It was crazy, man. Yeah. They, they would, we'd drive the weekend, you know, take like an hour to get through the security every time. And then I'd sit in this, you know, big room with all the convicts and my brother and I was eight years old until 12. And I remember just hearing these stories about prison that blew my mind as an eight-year-old, nine-year-old, just like what happened? I'm curious, what was the biggest thing you learned about yourself from, from being in jail?

• 44:12Mike Tyson?

Um, what I learned from jail, this is what I learned from jail, which is gonna be a trip, that there's beautiful people in this world.

• 44:20Lewis Howes?

  Beautiful.

• 44:21Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 44:22Lewis Howes?

There are. There were so many nice people there.

• 44:24Mike Tyson?

So many beautiful people in this world. They just had hard luck or bad times and stuff. It's beautiful people. And they may be killers, yeah, but they've done some really horrific shit. People did some stuff, drug deals, some bad stuff. But, um, they have a human quality about them. They're kind. You just sit down, you may just have a different look. We have a different perspective of a drug dealer. We look for the drug dealer. He has some guns. He's coming with his pack. And a bunch of guys got their guns ready for people, for action to come in. They come across a big bag, sadistic people. But that's not what it is. These are people on hard times.

• 44:56Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 44:57Mike Tyson?

And nobody, government's not doing nothing. They're not giving you no welfare out anymore, you know? This is the company where if you're not doing well, if you don't make it, you. That's the country we live in. I know you don't know, I don't like to hear, but if you're not doing good, you don't have a good family, you don't got good education, you don't got good working skills, you're not a big strong buck, you. You, you come back from the army, you be paralyzed, you got shot up, you. You're old, can't work, can't do nothing, you. You immigrate, don't got no skills. How's your girlfriend? Look how your wife looked. They're beautiful. Can I fuck them? No. Can't fuck you.

• 45:35Lewis Howes?

Yeah, but people, there are some, I've been up to Lancaster, to the maximum security prison up there and done some workshops and I did a workshop for five hours with a former NFL guy, Steve Weatherford, I don't know if you I know Steve, punter. We played together in Jacksonville. There you go, yeah, good buddy of mine. So we went up there, I took a few guys, and there was about a room of 25 murderers, right? That had all murdered. Or they were like on the scene when it happened and they got in there for life, whatever, right? And they were someone like the most lovely, kind men. Now, they'd been in there, they'd been doing the work, they'd been working on themselves, transforming, you know, forgiving themselves. They've been in the work for years, decades.

• 46:17Lewis Howes?

But there's some lovely people. If you're willing to train and do the work.

• 46:22Mike Tyson?

Yeah, no doubt, but listen, how do they get, how do these beautiful people that we're talking about, how do they get a good break when they come out there and they got the stripes on their back? They wanna read your portfolio, they see all this prison shit. You got the highest, some of these guys got the highest form of education from Ivy League schools, online in prison, and can't get a job. They got Ivy League stuff.

• 46:42Lewis Howes?

There's a guy at Stanford from there, yeah.

• 46:44Mike Tyson?

Yeah, Ivy League stuff, man. These guys are geniuses. They just took the, they just went the wrong direction. These guys are geniuses. These guys are brainiacs. The reason why we can't have radios and stuff in prison is because one of these little crazy intelligent bastards are turning into a phone where they can hear what in the warden's office. You know what I mean? So that's why we can't have, we can't have the things no more, the walkmans no more, the radios. Because these guys turned into devices where they can hear in the warden's office when they go send the people up for searches and lockdowns and all that stuff. These guys are geniuses, you can't believe it. They're like Einstein. They're in there for murder, oh, drugged them. These guys are so smart, they're, oh, blow your mind, man.

• 47:27Lewis Howes?

  It's wild. I'm curious.

• 47:29Mike Tyson?

They pass every state that the school requirements have for college, you know, institutions, they pass them with flying colors like they were cheating. You think they're cheating on the scores that they get?

• 47:40Lewis Howes?

Wow. It's wild, man. I'm curious, hypothetically, let's, let's say you could pick the day you get to die. How old would you want to be? If you could say, okay, I can choose any day, any year, would you want to be a hundred, two hundred years old? Like, how old would you like to live until?

• 47:59Mike Tyson?

I wouldn't live long, because I wouldn't want to see my children die.

• 48:04Lewis Howes?

  Wow, okay.

• 48:05Mike Tyson?

I wouldn't live long at all.

• 48:07Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 48:08Mike Tyson?

That would kill me if I, you know, see him growing old. I lost the daughter at four, but imagine that me with the relationship I have with my children now. You know, I would probably handle it, but I wouldn't want to deal with it. I wouldn't want to see it. So I would want to die a lot earlier.

• 48:21Lewis Howes?

Right. Well, say you got to, say it's your last day and your family was still alive.

• 48:25Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 48:26Lewis Howes?

And you died. Say it was a hundred and your family was still alive, right? What do you think you would want people to say about you in fifty years from now if that was when you died? What would you want people to say about you at your funeral or just in life after you pass?

• 48:43Mike Tyson?

I don't know. I told my kids that my daddy took care of us.

• 48:45Lewis Howes?

  Oh, yeah.

• 48:47Mike Tyson?

That's just more important, my daddy. You know, the other people are going to have their opinion, they're individuals.

• 48:52Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 48:52Mike Tyson?

Whatever it is, you know, and that doesn't bother me. I told my children.

• 48:55Lewis Howes?

  You care about the family.

• 48:56Mike Tyson?

Because I've always been [BLEEP] up in that department.

• 48:58Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 48:59Mike Tyson?

You know, my children have to come visit me, my, but they always have to see me in prison all the time, you know, everything. I went through that part of my life, my kids always got to come through the glass, got to take, hang out with my kids.

• 49:08Lewis Howes?

  Oh, man. The worst, right?

• 49:10Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 49:12Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 49:13Mike Tyson?

  All that stuff.

• 49:13Lewis Howes?

  That's cool, man. It's a good question.

• 49:17Lewis Howes?

I'm always asking, I'm always asking myself this stuff, you know?

• 49:20Mike Tyson?

That's what we are as people. We want people to think something about us. That's our ego. We want to think. We want, I'm telling you, people's egos are so [BLEEP] big. They, they want to be, they're mad they can't be at their own funeral. They want to see who came.

• 49:34Lewis Howes?

I think I would, I think I would want something similar, which is like, I would want people to know that I really cared about humanity and I, I had a big heart and I wanted to help people as much as I could. And just that I was a kind human being.

• 49:47Speaker 02

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 49:49Lewis Howes?

I tried my best to do as good as I could to help people, you know?

• 49:53Mike Tyson?

And then you have to deal with this, your best wasn't good enough.

• 49:56Lewis Howes?

  Oh, man.

• 49:57Mike Tyson?

  Imagine that.

• 49:58Lewis Howes?

Well, you're dead then anyway, so you don't have to hear it anymore.

• 50:01Mike Tyson?

But listen, how do we know? Maybe, maybe death is another form of life that we go to. It's another part of life, you know? How could, how could, you know, I mean, how could life be glorious and death not be glorious? You can't have death if you don't have life.

• 50:15Speaker 02

You walk through the hall and do it all over again.

• 50:17Mike Tyson?

  No doubt about it.

• 50:18Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 50:19Mike Tyson?

But I say to myself about that too, I say, listen, is this an illusion? People are born every second. How, how, what is the big, why would I, why would God need me to come back? You get somebody, other people keep, that keep coming, why do we need my energy back anymore? We already dealt with your energy. You be doing some new, do, you die, let's see the, stay here, we're gonna talk to you about you. We may bring you up in some history class, but this work, okay?

• 50:43Speaker 02

  Well, I think that-

• 50:45Mike Tyson?

I think that's a part of our ego, believing that we're gonna continue to live and we're gonna be reincarnated. No, you're finished, you had your turn. Come on.

• 50:53Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 50:54Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 50:55Speaker 02

It's possible, but you think about like your question, Mike, of Alexander the Great-

• 51:00Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 51:01Speaker 02

And the thousands of followers, hundreds of thousands of followers he had. And you think about, everybody knows Alexander the Great's name, but they don't know Joe Schmo-

• 51:11Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 51:12Speaker 02

From there. And the case is still that way. There are a handful of individuals in the grand scheme of civilizations that leave a mark that perpetuates on and on. And so, what you might think is, why does the universe want me to? Why does spirit, why does God want me to come back or need me to come back? And it's because you carry with you this knowledge that you spread that, like a virus-

• 51:42Lewis Howes?

  Wisdom, yeah.

• 51:43Speaker 02

A flow of water over humanity may touch and affect and inspire others to dream and think in this way.

• 51:52Speaker 02

You know, and that's why you come back because for the souls that are here for maybe the first time. Need to hear this type of stuff. Because it takes a lot to wake up in this day and age of technology, you know, hyper accessibility and.

• 52:08Lewis Howes?

Comparison, everything, judgment, insecurities, everything, yeah.

• 52:13Mike Tyson?

So tell me this, right? How does somebody that lived in the Stone Age connect with somebody that lives right today? Died, he died during the Stone Age and now somebody, do they intertwine one another, the energy and the twine one another? Hey, you're my cousin from ten million years ago. Do we find things out? Do we receive knowledge from my death?

• 52:30Speaker 02

Yeah, because in our DNA, it's all, it's all encrypted and coded into our DNA, into our cells. All of this ancient knowledge of who we are.

• 52:43Mike Tyson?

From my, um, brief, um, you know, my, from my brief investigation about the told and all this stuff in the universe, I just, um. It's just hard to believe that so many people are born and what happens to all these people. And like you say, say a man, say a Chinese emperor at one time, he led, he led billions of people. And they, and those billions of people accomplished great things. The Great Wall of China and all the great temple and all this stuff, right? Where are their names? Where are their names?

• 53:19Lewis Howes?

  Gone.

• 53:20Mike Tyson?

That's a crime. Everyone, every, every million of them, their names should be mentioned. That's when they found the Territoric Soldiers. They had thousands of them, but it was just, what, it was, there's too many of them. But they put their names on every one of them with different characters, all of them with different soldiers. And they put their names on them.

• 53:37Lewis Howes?

  That's cool.

• 53:38Mike Tyson?

And that's the closest that it ever came down when the whole crew got the, um, recognition from China. When he made a, he made a, he made a, he made a clay statue of everyone and the lifestyle of every one of his soldiers. And the soldiers' horses and stuff and the guns and all this stuff.

• 53:55Lewis Howes?

  Wow.

• 53:57Speaker 02

Well, in that same token of the, what did you say, Mike? The actions of us, of one of us.

• 54:08Mike Tyson?

The conduct of one is the fate of us all.

• 54:10Speaker 02

Yeah, so in the same vein, the conduct of one, Alexander the Great.

• 54:16Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 54:17Speaker 02

Is the fate of his entire community, his entire tribe.

• 54:21Mike Tyson?

  Exactly.

• 54:22Speaker 02

You know, so he is the embodiment of all of those people.

• 54:28Lewis Howes?

It's true. He represents it, yeah.

• 54:30Mike Tyson?

Nobody ever went that far before. Nobody ever went that far. That must've been crazy. You, ten, imagine marching for ten years. Imagine ten years, just keep going, not ever thinking about home. Well, you think about home, but you never know when you're coming back. They ever had, they went mutiny on him when he got to India. They said, man, we're not going home. We've been gone for ten years. We lost a bunch of people. We got children of other women from other tribes that's in our group now, you know what I mean? It's just, phew.

• 54:55Speaker 02

  That's crazy.

• 54:55Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 54:58Speaker 02

Bro. Louis, what do you have going on these days, man? What are you doing right now? You writing any new books?

• 55:03Lewis Howes?

I'm working on a new book that I'm, just started writing. It's about eliminating self-doubt.

• 55:08Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 55:09Lewis Howes?

I think self-doubt is the killer of dreams, and I think it holds us back from everything when we doubt ourselves.

• 55:15Mike Tyson?

Listen, why do we have doubts? We, human beings are the only species that make doubt up when it's not there.

• 55:22Lewis Howes?

  Isn't that crazy?

• 55:23Speaker 02

  That's wild.

• 55:24Lewis Howes?

It's crazy. That's what I'm gonna be writing about, yes. How do we overcome that self-doubt that keeps us back? And it doesn't matter, you know, I've, you've probably seen some talented athletes over the years, who maybe they were more talented than you or something, I don't know. Um, and you're like, but they didn't believe in themselves. And you had enough energy to put yourself out there and believe. I met a lot of guys, maybe you did on the football field. I was not the best athlete, but I, I made it past a lot of the guys that I played with. And I was, so I was like, man, you're so talented. You're a mutant. You're a freak of nature. But when it comes to the game, you get scared. And I didn't understand it.

• 56:01Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:02Lewis Howes?

I never understood it. And the thing is... It doesn't matter if you're the baddest person in the world. And if everyone believes in you and says you're the greatest, you can achieve it all. If you don't believe, you'll never do anything.

• 56:15Mike Tyson?

This is, that's so interesting. This is something I always wanted to find out. Like I have some sparring guy partners, people that I'm sparring, I'm vicious, I'm like, I'm not gonna limit. I knock your cold, break your jaw, and there's some guys in there that kick my, right?

• 56:28Lewis Howes?

  And you're like, what?

• 56:29Mike Tyson?

But you put them in the ring, you put them on the

• 56:31Lewis Howes?

  They're nervous.

• 56:31Mike Tyson?

You put them some popcorn there, and they panic, won't throw a punch.

• 56:36Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 56:36Mike Tyson?

Fight him like you fought me in the No, it's fighting the same way. Please, this guy be going after me, and they freak out, they panic. They won't, they

• 56:44Lewis Howes?

I think it's, I think part of it is, this is something I'm gonna be researching and going down. I think part of it is our ego and opinions of other people. We care so much about the opinions of other people, if we, the way we look, if we fail, if, you know, something happens we're not proud of. We're so scared of what our friends, our family, the media thinks of us, that holds us back from actually being in flow and giving our all. Absolutely.

• 57:09Mike Tyson?

That's true too, but there's other things that I think, in that realm.

• 57:13Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 57:13Mike Tyson?

There's some guys that don't got, ain't got nothing to talk, pump, cough. And this guy that got the world, they don't do nothing, they're shy, they're introverted, they don't think much of themselves, they're scared to talk to

• 57:25Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 57:25Mike Tyson?

Now, why is that? Now, if you're talking about self doubt, you got the world.

• 57:29Lewis Howes?

  Insecurities, yeah.

• 57:30Mike Tyson?

You scared to talk to a girl?

• 57:31Lewis Howes?

  I know.

• 57:32Mike Tyson?

I would buy one. No, forget it, take this one.

• 57:34Lewis Howes?

  I think it's, uh, yeah.

• 57:35Mike Tyson?

Car, I need a house, I got three years, take the car, take that.

• 57:39Lewis Howes?

I think the reject, the fear of rejection, it's like the opinion of what that person thinks of you. If they don't, if they say no to you, then it means you're not worthy. And at the core of all of our fears is us not being enough. It's saying, I am not enough, and therefore I'm afraid of, of putting myself out there. Because what if this person says, you are not enough to me, I'm rejecting you? Then we get scared, and our ego takes over and we don't want to be put in that situation.

• 58:05Mike Tyson?

In some cases, people kill other people for saying that.

• 58:08Lewis Howes?

  Absolutely, yeah.

• 58:09Mike Tyson?

  People freak out.

• 58:10Lewis Howes?

And isn't it interesting, isn't it interesting that you could have the world saying, you got this, you're the greatest, and you not believe in yourself and not take up the opportunity? And in the reverse, you could have the world against you. And everyone says, no, there's no way you can do this, there's no chance, you're not good enough. And all it takes is one person to believe, and that's yourself. And you can be against the world, but if you have the belief, then you can go and create it. And so that's what I wanna.

• 58:40Speaker 02

  Absolutely.

• 58:40Lewis Howes?

This book is about developing self-belief.

• 58:43Speaker 02

  I love that.

• 58:44Lewis Howes?

And eliminating self-doubt, because I think self-doubt is the killer of dreams.

• 58:47Speaker 02

  That's awesome.

• 58:48Mike Tyson?

I used to have a mentor and he used to say this, confidence, applied properly, would supersede the genius.

• 58:56Lewis Howes?

Oh, yeah. Genius without confidence isn't gonna do anything.

• 58:59Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 59:00Lewis Howes?

  Doesn't matter.

• 59:00Speaker 02

  Amazing.

• 59:01Lewis Howes?

Yeah, so I've got that of.

• 59:02Speaker 02

You should interview Mike for it, dude.

• 59:04Lewis Howes?

  I'm going to.

• 59:05Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 59:06Lewis Howes?

I mean, I'm going to, yeah, for sure. I've got that, I've got a documentary I'm looking to launch here soon, that's about, it's called Chasing Greatness.

• 59:14Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 59:15Lewis Howes?

It's all about discovering what greatness is, and I'm excited about that. And then my podcast is called The School of Greatness. So we interview people like Mike, who's gonna be coming on soon and.

• 59:24Mike Tyson?

  So tell us, um.

• 59:29Mike Tyson?

I'm gonna say something that John Kennedy Jr. said, alright? I've known him well before he died, right? And he said this, um. I've met a lot of great men.

• 59:44Mike Tyson?

But, um, and all those great men I met, I never met, they were no good men.

• 59:50Mike Tyson?

And he said, um, after meeting all these great men, I decided I wanna be a good man.

• 59:57Mike Tyson?

And that's what I said, I said, I wanna be a good man. People told me I was great for a long time. But it didn't give me, you know, as I got older, it didn't mean anything to me. You know what I mean? And then I realized that being a good man, you know, it's worth more than being a great man. All great men are not good men. But most good men could become great men.

• 1:00:19Lewis Howes?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 1:00:20Speaker 02

  So true.

• 1:00:21Lewis Howes?

  That's great.

• 1:00:22Speaker 02

So true. Cause that doesn't give you anything.

• 1:00:26Mike Tyson?

  No.

• 1:00:27Speaker 02

All of the material, success. It doesn't do anything for your soul. You may get five minutes, five years of gratification for your achievements. But it's not gonna fill the hole unless you're at peace with yourself, you are in love with yourself.

• 1:00:47Mike Tyson?

Listen, we're human beings, we're, we're, you know. We're human beings, imagine, how do you, how do you take, you're a great man, how do you take that? Why do you say I'm a bad? How do you take that, you know, from a, from a perspective of humanity? How do you, how do you take, you're a great man.

• 1:01:03Lewis Howes?

  I just try to say.

• 1:01:04Mike Tyson?

I don't even know what that means.

• 1:01:05Lewis Howes?

I, if someone says that to me, I would just say, thank you, I'm trying to do my best every single day. I'm learning every day, I'm growing, I'm not perfect, and I just want to help and serve. So, I just try to.

• 1:01:15Speaker 02

  Absolutely.

• 1:01:16Lewis Howes?

Focus on service, and I say, thank you, I'm just trying to serve as much as I can.

• 1:01:20Mike Tyson?

My, my, my, my idiocy, I thought of a great man as a man like Gandhi, a man that gives up all his money, gives everything or something. But that's what make him a great man, that's this man don't give a money, but that's what make him a good man either. You know, he just value, he has a price, but his price is not money, might be sex.

• 1:01:36Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:36Mike Tyson?

Might be liquor, might be drugs, or it just might be his happiness, you know what I mean? And all happy people are not good people, you know what I mean?

• 1:01:46Lewis Howes?

Yeah, you could be doing bad things and feel happy about it, yeah.

• 1:01:49Mike Tyson?

All happy people are not good people.

• 1:01:51Lewis Howes?

  That's interesting.

• 1:01:54Speaker 02

  Good stuff, man.

• 1:01:56Lewis Howes?

  This is fun, guys.

• 1:01:57Mike Tyson?

Really good when you see somebody that's, that's in a bad situation, and you try to make that situation better.

• 1:02:03Lewis Howes?

  That's a good person.

• 1:02:03Mike Tyson?

  That's a good person.

• 1:02:04Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:05Mike Tyson?

You don't have to know him or anything, but to make a situation better.

• 1:02:08Lewis Howes?

All you could do, you could simply smile.

• 1:02:09Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:10Lewis Howes?

You don't have to do a lot to change someone's energy and make them feel better, you can smile, you can.

• 1:02:15Mike Tyson?

  A hundred percent.

• 1:02:15Lewis Howes?

Say, how are you, you know?

• 1:02:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:17Lewis Howes?

It's just your energy, your way of being, how you show up, so.

• 1:02:20Speaker 02

There's a lot of homeless people around LA.

• 1:02:22Lewis Howes?

  Yep.

• 1:02:22Speaker 02

  You live in LA?

• 1:02:23Lewis Howes?

I live in West Hollywood, yeah.

• 1:02:24Mike Tyson?

  Downtown LA, oh, it's nighttime.

• 1:02:26Lewis Howes?

West Hollywood, there's a lot of people too, yeah.

• 1:02:27Speaker 02

Yeah, and on my side of town in NoHo, North Hollywood.

• 1:02:30Mike Tyson?

See, in Hollywood, but Hollywood, they got the functional homeless people, they're still clean, they're still on the talk.

• 1:02:36Lewis Howes?

  They got cell phones, yeah.

• 1:02:37Mike Tyson?

Yeah, these guys downtown don't have nothing.

• 1:02:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:41Mike Tyson?

  They're gonna die there, man.

• 1:02:43Speaker 02

Yeah, really bad, but, you know.

• 1:02:47Speaker 02

I try to acknowledge them, at least.

• 1:02:50Lewis Howes?

  That's good.

• 1:02:51Speaker 02

You know, I feel like those people are so beaten down that if another soul can just acknowledge their existence, that lifts them up to some extent.

• 1:03:00Lewis Howes?

Yeah, that's true. Just smile and say, hey, I hope you're doing well.

• 1:03:02Speaker 02

Amen. You know, God bless you. Good luck to you.

• 1:03:05Mike Tyson?

I don't understand. Listen, um, it's funny you say that. Um, it was a story about Alexander the Great, and it was this guy, I forgot, a genius. I forgot, I forgot his name, but it was a homeless guy. And he never complained. He was always happy. And Alexander was the king of Greece at some, he wanted to, he said, hey, listen, I notice you, you have nothing, you're always happy. I have everything. What can I do for you? And the guy said this, he said, for once, if you can please just get out of the way of the sun so I can get my pants. And Alexander just couldn't understand why this guy had nothing, but he was happy. And he had everything, and he wasn't happy. That was confusing.

• 1:03:41Lewis Howes?

It's interesting. I've been a part of a, a charity called Pens of the Promise where I'm actually, tonight, I'm flying to Guatemala.

• 1:03:48Speaker 02

  Wow, dude.

• 1:03:48Lewis Howes?

Every year I go on a trip, uh, we go to Guatemala, Laos, and Ghana.

• 1:03:52Mike Tyson?

  Laos is interesting.

• 1:03:54Lewis Howes?

It's cool there. I like it there. But we go and build schools. I've been doing it for seven, eight years. A guy named Adam Braun founded it. Scooter Braun, uh, is part of his brother. I don't know if you know Scooter.

• 1:04:03Speaker 02

  Cool. We do.

• 1:04:04Mike Tyson?

  Justin Bieber.

• 1:04:04Lewis Howes?

Yeah, yeah. So, um, I'm going tonight, and every year I go on a trip for about four days, and I see these kids that have nothing. They're in the middle of, they're so happy, man. They have nothing. They have no schools. They have no, they have a hut, but then they get like a little sandwich, and they're just hanging out with their family, and they're kicking a soccer ball on the dirt field with, you know, you know, trees in the middle of the field, and they're, you know, they're so happy kicking a rock around.

• 1:04:33Mike Tyson?

Well, they don't expect anything. In this country, we were taught to expect things, even if we don't work. We expect to have that beautiful girl. We expect to have that house. We expect to have that money, that car.

• 1:04:42Lewis Howes?

Someone to give us money, yeah.

• 1:04:43Mike Tyson?

They want to give it to us.

• 1:04:44Lewis Howes?

They're so happy. And so when I come, when I'm there for four or five days, and I come back, and I drive through Beverly Hills to get to West Hollywood, and I see.

• 1:04:51Speaker 02

  It's grotesque.

• 1:04:52Lewis Howes?

This, the material abundance, and people honking in their.

• 1:04:57Lewis Howes?

$400,000 Bentleys or whatever and getting mad and I'm like, these people are so happy with nothing. They've got family, they've got laughter, they've got health. And people in Beverly Hills, not everyone obviously, but I see people that are angry and frustrated.

• 1:05:10Speaker 02

  Cosmic joke, man.

• 1:05:11Lewis Howes?

  Isn't it crazy?

• 1:05:12Mike Tyson?

No, this is crazy. People are so fragile. Life is fragile. It's hard living life. You see people, they say they make a bad mistake, they think it's over, they may kill themselves. Life is hard to live. I'm making them say, oh god, I know we're getting the money, I know my girl left me, nobody's gonna ever love me, but I'm dead. You know, it's just people are fragile.

• 1:05:29Lewis Howes?

It always passes though, right? You've been through some crap.

• 1:05:32Mike Tyson?

Yeah, but you have to go through it. Some people can't go through the rain.

• 1:05:35Lewis Howes?

It's a lot of pain to go through.

• 1:05:36Mike Tyson?

  Deal with that pain.

• 1:05:37Lewis Howes?

  A lot of pain.

• 1:05:38Mike Tyson?

  Deal with that pain.

• 1:05:39Speaker 02

And you have to be willing to always see the light.

• 1:05:43Lewis Howes?

It's so hard when you feel like you're suffocating though.

• 1:05:46Mike Tyson?

But it's just your mind playing tricks with you.

• 1:05:48Lewis Howes?

  It's all mind game.

• 1:05:49Mike Tyson?

It's on your mind, do with you.

• 1:05:50Lewis Howes?

  It's a mind game.

• 1:05:52Mike Tyson?

We're so, human beings are so drama-filled. We're movies in our own self.

• 1:05:56Lewis Howes?

  That's it, stories we say.

• 1:05:57Mike Tyson?

We listen to, it's not even true and we're playing, and then we got the emotion, we cry, it's cool, it's alright. It's over, it's gone, it's cool.

• 1:06:07Speaker 02

  Good, man. Well.

• 1:06:08Lewis Howes?

  This is fun.

• 1:06:09Speaker 02

What do you think, dude? We have a ball in here.

• 1:06:11Lewis Howes?

  This is a great conversation.

• 1:06:12Speaker 02

  It's a great convo.

• 1:06:13Lewis Howes?

I'm excited to have you on soon and just talk more about this stuff, so.

• 1:06:16Speaker 02

  Hell yeah, dude.

• 1:06:17Mike Tyson?

Do you, do you ever think about that? Like where the fuck am I gonna go when it's over? I know you don't think it's a blackout, boom.

• 1:06:23Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:23Mike Tyson?

I know you know something's gonna happen.

• 1:06:24Speaker 02

I think about it every day.

• 1:06:25Mike Tyson?

Yeah, you do. Cause it's kind of exciting too, right? Be honest. What's next? It's exciting. Cause you know, God didn't make us for us to blank out. Do you think God made us for us to say, hey, it's over, blank out, we don't exist anymore? Come on.

• 1:06:37Lewis Howes?

  I don't think so.

• 1:06:38Speaker 02

  I'm interested.

• 1:06:38Mike Tyson?

The galaxy is so big. I think sometimes that we're in somebody's system. No, we're in somebody's system. We're had guts, we're had cells.

• 1:06:47Speaker 02

  We're cells.

• 1:06:48Mike Tyson?

We're living, we're living inside somebody that's just so big, we can't even fathom it.

• 1:06:52Speaker 02

  Why not?

• 1:06:52Mike Tyson?

  You know?

• 1:06:53Speaker 02

  Why not?

• 1:06:54Mike Tyson?

We would stop being afraid, we're ready to die. Isn't that crazy?

• 1:06:58Speaker 02

  That's the paradox.

• 1:07:00Mike Tyson?

We're ready to die. Even when you're young, we're no longer afraid, you usually die. You know?

• 1:07:05Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 1:07:06Mike Tyson?

Fear keeps us alive. Fear is a friend of ours.

• 1:07:09Speaker 02

  You have some realization.

• 1:07:10Mike Tyson?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:11Speaker 02

  And then you go.

• 1:07:14Speaker 02

  Should we wrap this up?

• 1:07:16Mike Tyson?

  Sure, why not?

• 1:07:17Lewis Howes?

Do you guys have a special ending too?

• 1:07:19Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:07:20Lewis Howes?

Good to see you, man. This is powerful.

• 1:07:21Speaker 02

  This is awesome.

• 1:07:22Lewis Howes?

  This is beautiful. Big Mike.

• 1:07:23Speaker 02

Hope to see you again, man.

• 1:07:24Lewis Howes?

  Appreciate you, man.

• 1:07:25Mike Tyson?

  Thank you.

• 1:07:26Lewis Howes?

It's just beautiful meeting you, man.

• 1:07:27Speaker 02

Mike, amazing episode, brother. Hey, wait, where can people find you?

• 1:07:32Mike Tyson?

  Yeah, tell us.

• 1:07:32Lewis Howes?

Uh, at Lewis Howes, L E W I S H O W E S, and, uh, on Instagram or wherever, and then School of Greatness Podcast.

• 1:07:40Speaker 02

  Awesome.

• 1:07:41Lewis Howes?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:41Speaker 02

  Check it, y'all.

• 1:07:42Mike Tyson?

Why do you think we, um, we put greatness and wealth in the same category?

• 1:07:47Lewis Howes?

  I don't do that.

• 1:07:49Mike Tyson?

Well, you know, most people do.

• 1:07:49Lewis Howes?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, you know, I think it's, uh...

• 1:07:52Mike Tyson?

  That's what I thought too.

• 1:07:53Lewis Howes?

I think they think of like wealth and success. The reason why, for me, it wasn't called School of Success, because I think that word is, um, I don't know, it's just not used that well. It's, it's tied around like money and accomplishments, where greatness for me is not about money and accomplishments. It's about service. It's about how can you use the...

• 1:08:11Mike Tyson?

  Sacrifice.

• 1:08:12Speaker 02

  Stepping into your high self.

• 1:08:13Lewis Howes?

Yeah, it's about how can you use the gifts and talents that you were given, that you were born with, to cultivate them and pursue a dream that you have. And in that pursuit, how can you impact the people around you, the maximum number of people? For me, that's greatness.

• 1:08:25Mike Tyson?

What do we do about homeless people? What do we do about having homeless hotels? Imagine a hotel like Vegas, like, um, the MGM Grand, a 5,000-room hotel. Imagine something like that for the homeless. And as they, and then as they go in the hotel, they learn how to take care of the hotel, they learn how to handle it, take the people, they learn how to, um, bellhop, they learn how to administration. They learn all that, and then they build more hotels all over the world for homeless people to learn how to make, live their life.

• 1:08:48Lewis Howes?

I think it's a great concept if they have the responsibility and want to do the work and, and, and want to show up and work. You know, that's the challenge.

• 1:08:55Speaker 02

Man, well, we'll have you on again and we'll go deeper on success and greatness. I, I think it's awesome, man.

• 1:09:03Lewis Howes?

  I appreciate it, man.

• 1:09:03Speaker 02

  Appreciate you.
