Hey, everybody out there, and welcome back to everybody's favorite podcast. This is Are You Garbage?

• 0:54Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 0:54H. Foley?

It's that little show we sit there with your favorite comedians and we find out they're going to be classy.

• 0:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 0:59H. Foley?

But they're just a big old piece of trash.

• 1:01Speaker 01

  Trash, trash.

• 1:02H. Foley?

I'm your host, H. Foley, coming at you on another beautiful day down here in Tejas. Austin T. Tootie is having the time of her life down here. Tonight, she's sitting in on the keyboard for that Gary Clark Jr. Show.

• 1:14Speaker 01

  Okay, very nice.

• 1:14H. Foley?

Pickling the ivories, baby. She's not gonna wanna go back. My co-host is coming at you from right next to me, slightly amused this week. I thought it was alright. He is the CEO of Are You Garbage. He is an international businessman and my best pal in the whole wide world, and I love him. Give it up for KJ, Kevin James Ryan, everybody.

Gang, we couldn't be more excited ever, incredibly, and I mean incredibly special guest.

• 1:44Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:44H. Foley?

Here with us today for the first time. He is a very funny, very successful stand-up comedian and podcaster. Rising star on the comedy scene.

• 1:52Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:53H. Foley?

One of the stars of that Kill Tony universe over there that just keeps getting bigger and bigger. You can hear him every week on the William Montgomery Show, but the big question in my mind today, is he garbage?

• 2:03Speaker 01

  I don't know if it's a big question.

• 2:04H. Foley?

Sometimes you gotta go away for a home game. Give it up for Casey Rocket, everybody.

• 2:09Speaker 01

  Yay.

• 2:11H. Foley?

  There he is.

• 2:12Speaker 01

  Happy to be here.

• 2:13H. Foley?

12:30, just rolled out of bed.

• 2:15Speaker 01

  In his finest DX shirt.

• 2:18Speaker 03

Business as usual. I was happy to hear that you are a CEO, you're a businessman, that gives me comfort.

• 2:24Speaker 01

  Sure, yes.

• 2:25Speaker 03

I'm also a businessman of sorts.

• 2:26Speaker 01

  Very, and what sense?

• 2:28H. Foley?

Type of work do you do?

• 2:29Speaker 03

  Ventures.

• 2:31Speaker 01

  Here and there.

• 2:32H. Foley?

  Not capitals, just ventures?

• 2:33Speaker 03

Just ventures, I'm working up to capitals. And it's been the best summer ever, and I'm happy to be here.

• 2:39Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 2:40Speaker 03

  And it's only winter.

• 2:41H. Foley?

  It's the middle of winter.

• 2:43H. Foley?

I don't know much, I'll be honest with you. Bit of a mystery, give us the backstory, give me the whole thing.

• 2:48Speaker 01

  Southern boy, no?

• 2:49H. Foley?

  Is that true?

• 2:50Speaker 03

I was born in Normal, Illinois, Bloomington, Normal, Illinois.

• 2:54H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 2:55Speaker 03

Um, on a day just like today. Scared yet? Scared yet? And, uh, but I was raised in Georgia, I spent my whole life in Georgia.

• 3:05H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 3:06Speaker 03

Yeah, North Georgia, kinda rural area.

• 3:09H. Foley?

What did you guys pull out of Illinois? As a baby?

• 3:11Speaker 03

When I was about four years old.

• 3:13H. Foley?

  About four years old?

• 3:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:14H. Foley?

  Brothers, sisters?

• 3:15Speaker 03

Uh, I had, at the time, when I was born, I had an older sister.

• 3:19H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 3:19Speaker 03

  She's alive, I don't know why I said it.

• 3:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:21Speaker 03

But at the time, and at the current time. At that time and at this time. Uh, I had an older sister, and she's four years older than me, and then now I have two half-brothers.

• 3:31H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 3:32Speaker 03

So, they are 18 and 16.

• 3:33H. Foley?

When you guys moved to Georgia, did your parents split up, is that why you moved?

• 3:36Speaker 03

Yes, well, they split up when I was like seven, so they were together for a couple years after we moved down there.

• 3:41H. Foley?

Okay. And who'd you live with?

• 3:44Speaker 03

  Uh, back and forth.

• 3:45H. Foley?

  Back and forth, same.

• 3:46Speaker 01

  Was it close, the houses?

• 3:48Speaker 03

  Relatively.

• 3:49Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 3:50Speaker 03

  Relatively, 20 minutes.

• 3:51H. Foley?

Was it civil, the parents get along okay?

• 3:54Speaker 03

  No.

• 3:55Speaker 01

  Next question.

• 3:56Speaker 03

  Not in the slightest.

• 3:57H. Foley?

That's what we were looking for, baby.

• 3:59Speaker 03

It was messy, it was a bloodbath, that's where I got my keen business sense.

• 4:03Speaker 01

That's where I learned my ventures.

• 4:04H. Foley?

  Both ends against the middle.

• 4:06Speaker 03

They don't negotiate with each other, and, um, but, yeah, so I was a child, and that was great.

• 4:12H. Foley?

  Raised in rural Georgia.

• 4:14Speaker 03

  Rural Georgia.

• 4:15H. Foley?

How rural are we talking about, how many people were in the town?

• 4:19Speaker 03

It's a pretty good sized town, but it was pretty rural. It was, uh, my mom is a horse trainer, so I grew up.

• 4:24H. Foley?

  No shit?

• 4:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:26H. Foley?

  Like a, like racetrack?

• 4:28Speaker 03

Um, western pleasure. So like show horses.

• 4:30Speaker 01

  That sounds like a pornography.

• 4:32Speaker 03

Well, there's two styles of show horses. There's English, which is like, um, the little black hat and the chaps.

• 4:39H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 4:39Speaker 03

Very proper in the crop. And they do jumping. And it's called dressage. And.

• 4:45H. Foley?

That's expensive stuff. That's rich people shit.

• 4:47Speaker 03

Yeah, but then western pleasure is like cowboy horses. So, um, everyone, they're show horses. So you dress like a cowboy. It's basically like make believe. And then you show these real nice horses with real nice lineages. And she would help to train the horses.

• 5:02H. Foley?

Gotcha. And do that at like shows. It would be like, uh.

• 5:05Speaker 03

Yeah. We're always at the horse shows when I was a kid.

• 5:08Speaker 01

  Strike number one.

• 5:11Speaker 03

Yeah, I didn't enjoy it at the time, but I've grown to become, become fond of them.

• 5:16H. Foley?

  Does she still do it?

• 5:17Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 5:17H. Foley?

  That's pretty good.

• 5:18Speaker 01

What was the house like, girl? Was it a house, a condo, a townhouse?

• 5:22Speaker 03

Um, my dad, when I was, when I would be at my dad's, it was like a house, like a two-story house, like a regular house. Um, but then my mom's house.

• 5:30Speaker 01

How many times you said house makes me think it was not a house? It was totally normal house, two-story house, it was a house, a house.

• 5:35Speaker 03

Tons of doors. You guys would have loved it.

• 5:37Speaker 01

  Drive away, everything, you know?

• 5:38Speaker 03

You guys would have loved it. It was perfect. Um, but my mom's, we would move around all the time. So sometimes we would be like in a camper. Sometimes we would be like.

• 5:48H. Foley?

Get the fuck out of here.

• 5:49Speaker 03

Yeah, like a real small camper. And I, I burned it down on accident. I was lighting.

• 5:54Speaker 01

  You did it on purpose.

• 5:55Speaker 03

Absolutely true. I was lighting little fires in the sink and.

• 5:59H. Foley?

  Why?

• 5:59Speaker 03

I, I guess I was just bored or I was angry. I don't know. I was really young.

• 6:03Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 6:03Speaker 03

And then the, I couldn't, it got bigger than I anticipated. The, some things were burning. Some things got out of hand. And I grabbed the nearest thing and I poured it on it when it was nail polish fluid. And it fucking. And I burned down our, our little home.

• 6:19H. Foley?

Who lived there? Was it just you and her?

• 6:21Speaker 03

Um, just me and her. I don't know where my sister was at that time, but it was super small, but that was like a pretty small portion. That was like six months, maybe. And then

• 6:30Speaker 01

Was the camper on like a site?

• 6:32H. Foley?

  Trailer or camper?

• 6:34Speaker 03

It was behind the barn. So it was just out in the woods.

• 6:37H. Foley?

Behind the barn that she worked at?

• 6:39Speaker 03

Yeah, that she would rent, I guess.

• 6:41H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 6:43Speaker 03

Doesn't even own the barn. She's renting the barn. Sure.

• 6:46H. Foley?

That makes sense. So it's like some rich guy that owns the barn. She's a horse trainer for.

• 6:49Speaker 03

  Sure. Yeah.

• 6:50H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 6:50Speaker 03

Um, and then we would move all, we would move around. We lived in a barn for a while, like a little apartment. And we all, uh, we all slept in the same bed. So

• 6:59Speaker 01

  What age we talking there?

• 7:00Speaker 03

Um, maybe eight or nine, maybe. Probably too old for that.

• 7:04H. Foley?

Is this when your parents were still together?

• 7:06Speaker 03

  No, no, no, no.

• 7:07H. Foley?

Okay. So it was you, your mom and your sister?

• 7:08Speaker 03

  Yeah. Uh huh.

• 7:09Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 7:10H. Foley?

  What'd your dad do?

• 7:12Speaker 03

  Uh, what does he do?

• 7:13H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 7:13Speaker 03

Business, just like me, just like this.

• 7:15Speaker 01

Runs in the family. Took over the family business.

• 7:18Speaker 03

TCB. I'm a chip off the old block.

• 7:21H. Foley?

Suit and tie man, cup of coffee.

• 7:24Speaker 03

You look just like your old man. Yeah. Uh, yeah, he, he like pitches products to Home Depot. So people come to him with a product and he's like the middleman. Yeah.

• 7:33Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 7:34H. Foley?

Does he go and like do the show, like do the, like he's a, is he a pitch man?

• 7:37Speaker 03

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 7:38Speaker 01

  Really?

• 7:39Speaker 03

Yeah. So he like, uh, sets up at a, what do you call them? Like conferences and he'll have his booth with the products of the people.

• 7:46Speaker 01

And really try to push to like the buyers or whatever.

• 7:48Speaker 03

  Yeah. Like Lowe's, Home Depot.

• 7:49H. Foley?

So he's like a big breakaway from being like a Billy Mays. He could pop like that.

• 7:53Speaker 03

Uh, maybe. I don't know the extent of, uh, I don't know. He's never really described it to me. Yeah. Cause he doesn't, he does give like little presentations. I've never been there, but

• 8:03Speaker 01

Do you still talk to both of your parents?

• 8:06Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 8:06Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 8:08Speaker 01

It seemed a little hesitant, but alright.

• 8:10H. Foley?

I can't get a read on this game.

• 8:13Speaker 03

  I do.

• 8:13Speaker 01

Feel like I'm talking to Kaiser Sose over here.

• 8:16H. Foley?

Start talking in a British accent.

• 8:19Speaker 03

My mother's name was Couch Desk.

• 8:23Speaker 01

  Great woman, had a house.

• 8:24Speaker 03

Couch Desk Shoe Knob, so it's pretty cool.

• 8:27H. Foley?

  How was school growing up?

• 8:29Speaker 03

It was fine. I went to public school.

• 8:32H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 8:32Speaker 01

Did you do well? Were you a good student at all, or no? I can, not with the fires in the camper, I don't think you were.

• 8:38H. Foley?

I could see him being a smart guy, though.

• 8:39Speaker 03

Relatively, I mean, it came relatively easy to me, but I never like tried at it, like Bs and Cs.

• 8:45H. Foley?

  Okay, that's pretty good.

• 8:46Speaker 01

  Fair enough.

• 8:46Speaker 03

  Not bad.

• 8:47H. Foley?

  Sports?

• 8:48Speaker 03

Yeah, baseball. My dad was my baseball coach.

• 8:51H. Foley?

Really? Alright, a high school baseball coach.

• 8:54Speaker 03

He was, he pitched at Illinois State, so he was a baseball player.

• 8:58Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 8:59Speaker 03

And he was my rec baseball coach from when I was four to when I was 18. So, my whole, my whole life, he was my baseball coach.

• 9:07H. Foley?

  Can he throw heat?

• 9:08Speaker 03

He was a curveball guy. 85, topped out at 85. Had had some movement on it, though.

• 9:13Speaker 01

A little bit of western pleasure.

• 9:15H. Foley?

And what did you play? What position?

• 9:17Speaker 03

Uh, shortstop primarily, and, but I would move around. I was a utility man.

• 9:21H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 9:22Speaker 03

  Chase Utley. Yeah.

• 9:23Speaker 01

  Shout out to Utley.

• 9:24H. Foley?

Played for the Blue Jays for a couple of seasons.

• 9:27Speaker 03

Yeah, tapered off towards the end there.

• 9:29H. Foley?

And did you do that in high school, too? Did you play for your high school team?

• 9:32Speaker 03

  I didn't. I only played rec. Yeah.

• 9:34H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 9:34Speaker 03

Just rec. I was decent. I never really tried at it, though. I, I love, I love, love baseball. I'm a huge Cubs fan, but I never applied myself.

• 9:41H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 9:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:42Speaker 01

What did family vacations look like growing up?

• 9:45Speaker 03

  Disney World.

• 9:46Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 9:47H. Foley?

It's not bad. Is that mom or dad taking you there?

• 9:49Speaker 03

That was just when they were together, so I have a memory of going there a couple of times. And then, never been on one with my mom. She, we didn't have money to do that.

• 10:02Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 10:02Speaker 03

  But.

• 10:02Speaker 01

  Working single mom.

• 10:03Speaker 03

Yeah, my dad, he took me a couple of times to a beach. Yeah, like South Carolina.

• 10:11Speaker 01

  A beach, a house, business.

• 10:14H. Foley?

Tried to, tried to pull away. You're chasing the car.

• 10:17Speaker 03

I, uh, never think about this. Yeah, he took me to a beach.

• 10:22Speaker 01

Sounds like you're making up an alibi on the spot. Yes, there was a beach in my father.

• 10:27Speaker 03

You guys would have loved it.

• 10:28H. Foley?

  Did he get remarried?

• 10:30Speaker 03

  Uh huh, yeah.

• 10:31Speaker 01

That's where the brother, the sibling, the half siblings come from.

• 10:33Speaker 03

Yeah, they remarried when, he remarried when I was 10. Yeah.

• 10:36H. Foley?

And did you get along with your stepmom and the family and all that kinda stuff?

• 10:39Speaker 03

I did not when I was a kid. It was very contemptuous.

• 10:42H. Foley?

  Burning down houses.

• 10:43Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 10:43Speaker 01

What age did that happen? Oh, you said 10. Gotcha.

• 10:46Speaker 03

Yeah, and then my mom remarried when I was, uh...

• 10:49H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 10:49Speaker 03

  15, maybe.

• 10:50H. Foley?

Alright. Were you in that wedding? Were you in either of those weddings?

• 10:54Speaker 03

I was in my dad's wedding.

• 10:59Speaker 03

But by the time my mom remarried, I was completely, I was gone on the tuss. I was completely, I was high all the day, all the day, all the live long day.

• 11:08Speaker 01

  On Robitussin.

• 11:09Speaker 03

On tuss and weed and tuss.

• 11:11H. Foley?

Wait, really? You were doing Robitussin?

• 11:13Speaker 01

He was robo-tripping. That's what I've heard about the man.

• 11:14Speaker 03

For a short period of my, from 14 to 15, so for two years I was doing that.

• 11:18H. Foley?

Really? That's a pretty long period of your life to be robo-tripping.

• 11:21Speaker 03

700 day, 700 day tuss challenge.

• 11:24Speaker 01

See if you can beat it out there.

• 11:26H. Foley?

  Did they know?

• 11:27Speaker 03

  Uh, oh yeah, for sure.

• 11:28Speaker 01

I don't think that's something you can hide, dude.

• 11:30Speaker 03

I know, yeah. I talk about that in my hour all the time. You can't hide it. They would come in my room and I'd just...

• 11:37Speaker 01

  He's crawling on the ceiling.

• 11:39Speaker 03

And you're trying to have a normal conversation, but you talk really slowly too, so you're like, "Hey." Yeah.

• 11:44H. Foley?

  "Hey."

• 11:46Speaker 03

  You're like, can't, you're so raspy.

• 11:48H. Foley?

  "Hey."

• 11:49Speaker 03

Um, like Bradley Cooper in A Star is Born.

• 11:54H. Foley?

  "Hey."

• 11:54Speaker 01

He's gonna look at you again. Get another look at you.

• 11:57H. Foley?

"Want you one more last look at you." Your mom's like, "Casey, what the hell are you talking about?"

• 12:01Speaker 03

Yeah, I know. I just came here to tell you you're not.

• 12:03H. Foley?

So, your mom gets remarried, the financial situation improves a little bit, her husband?

• 12:09Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 12:09H. Foley?

You got, she gets a house, your dad has a house. Did your mom have more kids or no?

• 12:14Speaker 03

No, she did not, but they, he had two daughters, so then I had two stepsisters over there. And then my dad's wife that he married had a stepdaughter, so then that house had a stepdaughter and then two little kids.

• 12:28H. Foley?

  That they had?

• 12:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:29H. Foley?

So you're proper, you're the only one going back and forth?

• 12:32Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 12:33H. Foley?

Two, two proper rooms in each house?

• 12:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:37H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 12:37Speaker 03

But they, uh, my sister, so she is four years older than me. So when I got to high school, she was gone. So then at that time, yeah, it was a lot of going back and forth all the time. And I would get kicked out of their houses like every day. So yeah. Oh, just being horrible, being incorrigible. Yeah, lighting fires, just being a monster. It was just not listening to rules and whatever.

• 12:59H. Foley?

So you were a handful as a kid?

• 13:00Speaker 03

  Oh, I was absolutely awful.

• 13:01Speaker 01

Seems like a bit of a handful now, if we're being honest.

• 13:03H. Foley?

What kind of stuff would you do to get in trouble? Give me an example, other than the.

• 13:07Speaker 03

Crash my car, not like turn my phone off and like stay places for like days at a time. And then they'd be like, hey, man, like you, like what, like, party at a friend's house, turn my phone off. And then eventually he'd be like, alright, you have to leave. And I'd just have to turn the phone back on him. Hey, sorry. And yeah, just was getting drunk and high all the time. Just had a substance abuse problem.

• 13:28H. Foley?

And they would just pop you back and forth. Hey, go with your mom for a little bit, get straightened out. You come back, bang, bang, bang.

• 13:33Speaker 01

Was there ever a time you weren't allowed at either one of their houses?

• 13:36Speaker 03

  Yes, yeah.

• 13:37Speaker 01

  I could, I figured that.

• 13:38Speaker 03

  Yes, absolutely.

• 13:39H. Foley?

  Where did you stay then?

• 13:40Speaker 03

Uh, like at a friend's house.

• 13:42Speaker 01

Got my own condo in Boca.

• 13:44Speaker 03

  Yeah, business.

• 13:45H. Foley?

A friend's house with like a nice family and all that stuff? And they were cool to you?

• 13:48Speaker 03

Um, yeah, sure. Yeah, they were nice. Well, it'd just be random people for a day or two. Yeah.

• 13:54H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 13:55Speaker 03

But yeah, when I was 14, they sent me to a rehab for nine months, but I ran away, I ran away after 10 days.

• 14:03H. Foley?

Nine months? That's fucking the whole year.

• 14:05Speaker 01

  And this is for tussing?

• 14:06Speaker 03

Um, yeah, tuss and pills, uh, cause opioids are really big where I was from.

• 14:12H. Foley?

How, how old of a fella are you?

• 14:13Speaker 03

  Yeah, I was 14. I'm 30 now.

• 14:16H. Foley?

  30. So you're, yeah, that makes.

• 14:17Speaker 01

That's the tail end of the opioid epidemic.

• 14:19Speaker 03

I caught the, the 2011, 2012, the tail end of the Purdue farm. Almost got me.

• 14:25Speaker 01

Live to fight another day. Talk about big business.

• 14:28H. Foley?

And what happened when you, when you ran out of rehab after 10 days? What'd they say about that? Um. Are they springing the bill for this too? Or is it like the state?

• 14:35Speaker 03

They, it wasn't court mandated. They, my dad was paying for it.

• 14:39H. Foley?

  Was it a nice one?

• 14:41Speaker 03

I guess, it was like a teen- it was teenage rehab, so it was just teenagers and we would just dig stumps all day. It was like, it was like spiritual revelation through labor.

• 14:52H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 14:52Speaker 03

  So it was like-

• 14:53H. Foley?

  Digging stumps sucks.

• 14:55Speaker 03

Oh, it was awful and it made no- it was fruitless. It was like, you will have, we- it was like Martyrs, that French movie, Logic, where it's like, "We will break you down to where you are like, 'God, take me away from this suffering.'" So it was like, sleep deprivation. We would only sleep like four or five hours a night.

• 15:13H. Foley?

What the fuck, are we going to passages or something?

• 15:15Speaker 03

Yeah, I would have liked that.

• 15:16H. Foley?

  That's crazy.

• 15:17Speaker 03

Maybe I would have stayed, but, yeah, I ran away.

• 15:20Speaker 01

Did you like, escape or did you just kinda check?

• 15:23Speaker 03

I ran away. So, I, at night, there was a one-hour break after like a prayer time. There was a prayer time and then there was like, I knew, it was like a Shawshank thing. I was like, I was like, "Okay, if I, you know, if I sneak out at this time..."

• 15:37Speaker 01

  Just wait for a thunderstorm?

• 15:38Speaker 03

Yeah, I was like, "If, if I leave at, at 9:10, they won't know I'm gone until 9:45." And that'll give me time to fucking get some serious mileage.

• 15:47H. Foley?

It's only a half an hour, dude.

• 15:49Speaker 01

So, someone opens up his room, "Well, Casey's gone and he's got 35 minutes on us. That boy could be anywhere."

• 15:56H. Foley?

Did you have a car there?

• 15:58Speaker 03

No, I was 14, so, I was a little kid.

• 16:02H. Foley?

  Is this, is this-

• 16:03Speaker 03

  That's so funny.

• 16:04H. Foley?

Is this far away from everything?

• 16:06Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 16:06H. Foley?

  Where did you physically go?

• 16:08Speaker 03

It's really, really, that was super rural. That was like up in the mountains and I remember somebody telling me that there was a gas station, like, a co- they said there's a, you know, there's a gas station like two miles from here and I would, I was like, "Yeah, wh- where is it though?" Like, I, I was like dropping hints like-

• 16:23Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 16:24Speaker 03

Trying to figure out the location.

• 16:25Speaker 01

If I left next Tuesday at 9:10, where, how would I get there?

• 16:28Speaker 03

How would I get there exactly? They just said, "Take a left," and I was like, "All right, I'll take a left." That's quite literally what happened. And I was like, "All right, I'll take a left."

• 16:35H. Foley?

Bang a left at the stump and keep going. That's nuts.

• 16:39Speaker 03

So I, I snuck out, I took someone's jacket, I put on shoes, it was winter, and I just ran into the woods. And I just ran, uh, and it was like fucking my arms all up because it was bramble bushes. And I ran for like several miles and then there was a gas station. And I had stolen some change, so I called some of my friends and I was like, it was like a, I was trying to like brag, because they were 14 too, so there's nothing they could do. And I was like-

• 17:06Speaker 01

Mom, can we go pick up Casey at rehab?

• 17:09H. Foley?

Hey, I'm in the middle of dinner right now. Let me call you back.

• 17:11Speaker 03

I was like, yo, I broke out of rehab and they were like, what? That's all right. Like, cool, I guess. And then I called my dad and I was like, yeah, I ran away. Um, then he came and got me.

• 17:21H. Foley?

  All right, there you go.

• 17:22Speaker 03

And actually, the police came and got me. They called the police, like teenage runaway. The police took me back there. Then my dad came to there.

• 17:34H. Foley?

You said, hey, I don't want to do this.

• 17:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:36H. Foley?

That sucks. I feel bad for you. Fucking 14-year-old kid running through the goddamn woods.

• 17:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:40H. Foley?

  What the fuck?

• 17:41Speaker 03

It was like one of those teen challenge things. You know, there's like Netflix documentaries like that troubled teen industry.

• 17:46H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 17:47Speaker 03

  It's one of those things.

• 17:48H. Foley?

• 20:48H. Foley?

Do it. Did things smooth over after that?

• 20:52Speaker 03

  Um, so they said I-

• 20:53Speaker 01

  They were just getting started.

• 20:56Speaker 03

  Kind of.

• 20:57H. Foley?

  Sit down, fat boy.

• 20:58Speaker 03

They said I can't come back, which I was like, perfect. Ideal situation.

• 21:04H. Foley?

  Thanks, Dick Edward.

• 21:05Speaker 03

  What? No.

• 21:07H. Foley?

  I ran away.

• 21:08Speaker 03

Yeah, I know. Oh, what? So they said I couldn't come back because that was like a trouble to the other kids or something because I ran away. I was like, I would have ran away the first day if I knew that, but-

• 21:17Speaker 01

  Dude, he's a nightmare.

• 21:20Speaker 03

So they, from there, they put me in a mental hospital for like two weeks. Cause they were like, we don't know what to do with you. The rehab was saying, put him in jail as like a ward of the state.

• 21:31Speaker 01

  Crazy.

• 21:32Speaker 03

  And.

• 21:32H. Foley?

Is this just drugs? You were just, were you having mental issues as well?

• 21:36Speaker 03

No, just drugs, just Tuss. Yeah. I only have, I have a serious substance abuse problem, but I don't have any mental health problems. Yeah. And so I.

• 21:45H. Foley?

I got both, baby. Don't worry.

• 21:46Speaker 03

  Just that night.

• 21:47Speaker 01

  Yeah, you're in good company.

• 21:49Speaker 03

Taken to the hospital. So they, they put me in the hospital for a little bit. I got out. And then.

• 21:55H. Foley?

You break out of there too?

• 21:56Speaker 03

Yeah. Well, no, no, they let me out eventually. So it like ran its course. I just never think about this stuff. So then I went back to public school.

• 22:04H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 22:05Speaker 03

And then one week later, I got kicked out of public school for being high on Robitussin at the football game with my friend Brett. And we, our backpacks were like full of stolen bottles of wine from CVS. And they like went through my pockets and it was like Tuss, like it was like a clown car.

• 22:21Speaker 01

Never ending, like just a very long bottle.

• 22:24Speaker 03

It was like three packs of Marlboro Reds, two bottles of Robitussin, one bottle of wine in my pants.

• 22:29H. Foley?

Crazy thing is he was the quarterback.

• 22:32Speaker 01

I have a question on the execution of Tuss.

• 22:35Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 22:36Speaker 01

How much do you have to drink? You got a bottle? Does that, you and your, your boy?

• 22:40H. Foley?

  Is this regular Robitussin?

• 22:42Speaker 03

Yeah. Well, Robitussin DM. You can't drink CF. It gets you really sick, like violently sick. And sometimes we made that mistake. Like how sick could it get you?

• 22:53Speaker 03

It's like shitting and puking Family Guy style out of both, out of both ends. You're like, oh, it's true. The rumors are true.

• 22:59Speaker 01

Uh huh. But like a bottle would.

• 23:01Speaker 03

  Uh, like four ounces.

• 23:02Speaker 01

Four ounces will get you going.

• 23:03Speaker 03

And then you get a Tuss tolerance. So then it's eight ounces, 12 ounces.

• 23:06Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 23:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:08H. Foley?

Was it, what did you prefer about the Tussin high? Why didn't you just drink?

• 23:12Speaker 03

Um, I did. I drank all the time, but as far as like a day to day thing that I could have access to, cause I didn't have a car.

• 23:19H. Foley?

  Right.

• 23:19Speaker 03

My mom, you know, would go get groceries. So I, I wanted to be high all the time. I just have that gene.

• 23:25H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 23:25Speaker 03

I'm just a drug addict. And so I would.

• 23:27H. Foley?

  I got it too, man.

• 23:28Speaker 03

  Steal Tuss. Yeah.

• 23:29H. Foley?

  Got you.

• 23:29Speaker 01

You'd go with your mom and you'd steal it.

• 23:31Speaker 03

Mm-hmm. When I was younger, you know, until I had a car. Yeah.

• 23:35H. Foley?

So he got a car. What was that first car?

• 23:38Speaker 03

  Uh, red Pontiac Grand Am.

• 23:40H. Foley?

No shit. Where'd you get that? What year?

• 23:43Speaker 03

Uh, it would have been a 2008.

• 23:45H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 23:46Speaker 03

  Yeah, it was nice.

• 23:47H. Foley?

  Set of wheels.

• 23:48Speaker 03

Yeah, I think it was 3,500. It was a nice car, $3,500.

• 23:52H. Foley?

Where'd you get the cash for that?

• 23:53Speaker 03

Uh, my dad bought it and I worked it off.

• 23:55H. Foley?

  Gotcha. That's alright.

• 23:57Speaker 03

I slowly paid him back. Yeah.

• 23:58H. Foley?

Alright. That's not bad, man. Crashed that car?

• 24:01Speaker 03

  Yes, several times.

• 24:04Speaker 03

  Several times.

• 24:04Speaker 01

  I saw it out front.

• 24:07Speaker 03

Several times. So I got kicked out of the 9th grade and then...

• 24:10H. Foley?

We're not even in 9th grade. Where do you go from there when you get kicked out of the public school in a rural town?

• 24:15Speaker 03

So I was kicked out of the 8th grade and then they were... That was for fighting and then I had a bamboo weed pipe in my bookbag. Like a piece of bamboo that we had made into like a piece pipe. And then, so then I go to rehab. So it goes kicked out of the 8th grade, rehab. I go to public school for one week. I get kicked out of public school. Then I go to the mental hospital for two weeks. Then I couldn't go to any more public schools because I've been kicked out twice in one year.

• 24:38H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 24:39Speaker 03

So then they sent me to military school.

• 24:42H. Foley?

  Really?

• 24:42Speaker 03

So then I spent six months in military school. Yeah, when I was from 14 to 15.

• 24:46H. Foley?

  How was that?

• 24:47Speaker 03

  Awful.

• 24:47H. Foley?

What was the name of it?

• 24:49Speaker 03

  It's called Riverside Military Academy.

• 24:50H. Foley?

  Riverside Military Academy.

• 24:52Speaker 03

  It was atrocious.

• 24:53H. Foley?

Was it just like a high school with like maybe like prep years? Like you could go a year after high school? Or was it all the way through?

• 24:59Speaker 03

It was middle school through high school. Yeah. So there was like 7th, 8th, and then all of high school.

• 25:05H. Foley?

Nice facility with like history and all that kinda stuff?

• 25:08Speaker 03

Yeah, really, really formal. Um, everyone's a military guard. Revival at 5 or 6 in the morning. Then you march. Everyone marches as a school. And then you break off into your platoons or your companies.

• 25:21H. Foley?

Let the kids sleep in. You got them doing stumps. He wants to get up. Don't want to get up in the morning.

• 25:25Speaker 03

That's part of the problem is I wasn't ever getting to get any sleep. Yeah. So I was always acting out.

• 25:30H. Foley?

How were the kids at the military school? Were they cool to you? Was there bullies and shit like that?

• 25:34Speaker 03

Um, yes, some people. I mean, there was definitely a lot of violence for sure, but I had a lot of friends too. Yeah.

• 25:41H. Foley?

How did you end up getting out of that?

• 25:42Speaker 03

Um, well, I did it my semester. So I did second half of my freshman year at military school. And then enough time had elapsed where I could go back to public school.

• 25:53H. Foley?

Go back in the same public school system.

• 25:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:55H. Foley?

Going back to public school after that must have been awesome.

• 25:58Speaker 03

I was like legendary. Yeah, I was like persona non grata. It was like, oh, that's like... That's that Young Tuss kid.

• 26:06Speaker 01

That's Young Tuss. That's a good rat name, Young Tuss.

• 26:08H. Foley?

Young Tuss with the sick grand dam. How you doing?

• 26:11Speaker 01

  What, okay, did you graduate?

• 26:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:13Speaker 01

Was it then pretty smooth sailing after that, or no?

• 26:16Speaker 03

Um, yeah, relatively. Yeah, so once-

• 26:18Speaker 01

I mean, great on a curve, but sure.

• 26:21Speaker 03

From fifteen, then I graduated public school, and then I graduated from Georgia Southern. Yeah.

• 26:26Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 26:27Speaker 03

Yeah, so I went to college, yeah.

• 26:28H. Foley?

No kidding? What'd you get in the SATs?

• 26:30Speaker 03

Um, is that the one with the longer number?

• 26:33H. Foley?

  Never mind.

• 26:34Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 26:37Speaker 03

  I don't know, but I got a twenty-two on the, I got a twenty-four on the ACT.

• 26:42Speaker 01

I think that's pretty good, because that's like thirty-two or something, isn't it?

• 26:45H. Foley?

You can tell you're a smart guy.

• 26:47Speaker 03

  Sure. I'm well-read.

• 26:48H. Foley?

Okay. Okay, dude, were you always reading when you were growing up?

• 26:52Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:53H. Foley?

  Like Holden Caulfield. That's crazy.

• 26:55Speaker 03

I, I like, uh, yeah, read a lot of books and I watch a ton of movies. I've seen probably like ten thousand movies.

• 27:00H. Foley?

So you were reading on your own as a kid while you were going through all this shit?

• 27:03Speaker 01

I've never heard anybody brag about that. I've probably seen four million movies.

• 27:06Speaker 03

I know, that I guess, that is pretty stupid.

• 27:07Speaker 01

  No, I liked it great.

• 27:09H. Foley?

So wait, hold on, were you reading-

• 27:10Speaker 01

He's also, I'm pretty smart. I've seen a lot of movies. All the Pirates of the Caribbean. Big history buff.

• 27:17H. Foley?

Were you reading for pleasure on your own while you were going through all this shit with the Tussin and all these, the reabs and all that stuff? You were a reader?

• 27:25Speaker 03

Sure, a reader, but mostly movies, yeah. Which isn't really that-

• 27:30Speaker 01

That's how I got into business.

• 27:31Speaker 03

That takes no effort to do.

• 27:32H. Foley?

So I've actually never read a book.

• 27:34Speaker 03

Um, because I was high all the time, and even though I went back to public school, I was, I still, I got sober for the first time when I was twenty-one. So from, from fifteen to twenty-one-

• 27:44Speaker 01

  It was just mayhem.

• 27:45Speaker 03

  Mayhem, yeah, complete chaos.

• 27:47H. Foley?

  How'd you do in college?

• 27:48Speaker 03

Jail and everything. Um, it was, it was fine. I did good. I graduated with a degree in journalism.

• 27:54H. Foley?

  No shit?

• 27:55Speaker 03

  And, uh, technical writing.

• 27:56H. Foley?

So you were writing papers and all that kind of stuff?

• 27:58Speaker 03

Mm-hmm, I was the head of the school magazine.

• 28:00Speaker 01

  Whoa!

• 28:01H. Foley?

  Look at this!

• 28:01Speaker 01

About turning it the fuck around.

• 28:03H. Foley?

Look at this! What was the name of the magazine?

• 28:05Speaker 03

  Reflector.

• 28:06Speaker 01

  Tussin Quarterly.

• 28:08H. Foley?

  What was it?

• 28:09Speaker 03

  It was called Reflector Magazine.

• 28:11H. Foley?

  No kidding?

• 28:11Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:12H. Foley?

That's all, were you the editor?

• 28:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:14Speaker 01

It's mainly just a list of movies he watched.

• 28:17H. Foley?

That's pretty good. What about the social scene in college?

• 28:20Speaker 03

Um, yeah, I had a lot of my friends from high school. So this was about five hours from where I grew up. So I kinda got out of that town.

• 28:26H. Foley?

You're staying, so you're staying in the dorm, you're at your proper campus life?

• 28:30Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 28:30H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 28:30Speaker 03

Yeah. I got a couple stri- I almost did not make it. My freshman year, I got a couple strikes with the university. For, I got, I got arrested for drunk in public, twice. And then I got, I, my RA, you know what I'm talking about? The door people?

• 28:45Speaker 01

  Oh, narcs, I call them.

• 28:46Speaker 03

Yeah. He came into my room and I was blackout drunk and I was like, "Who is this guy?" I was like trying to find him. I had, I had never met him, so I was like, "What are you doing in my house?" I was like trying to find him.

• 28:59H. Foley?

"This guy broke into my house."

• 29:03H. Foley?

  Holy shit.

• 29:05Speaker 03

But after that, I made, pretty, I mean, for a couple of years, I was still drinking, but I, I really turned my life around when I was 18. I was like, you know, this has to change. I have to try. Cause I was failing out my freshman year. I had failed like four out of my five classes. And my dad was like, you know, you're gonna have to move home. Like if you don't turn it around. So I was like, okay, I'm gonna make some, make some changes.

• 29:25Speaker 01

Where, so that was, that was just drinking then? Not no drugs?

• 29:29Speaker 03

  Um, no.

• 29:30Speaker 01

  Or like recreational drugs?

• 29:31Speaker 03

Yeah, pretty much just drinking. Yeah.

• 29:33Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 29:34H. Foley?

But you made it through journalism degree.

• 29:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:36H. Foley?

  That's fucking hard, man.

• 29:37Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:38H. Foley?

  That's fucking awesome.

• 29:39Speaker 03

Yeah. I enjoyed writing and it, and it gave me a sense of purpose being the editor of the magazine. I enjoyed that, so.

• 29:44H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 29:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:45H. Foley?

  That's alright.

• 29:46Speaker 03

  Sense of responsibility.

• 29:47H. Foley?

And then when did you start comedy?

• 29:49Speaker 03

  I started when I was 20.

• 29:50H. Foley?

You started when you were 20?

• 29:51Speaker 03

So I started at Georgia Southern doing the school talent shows.

• 29:54H. Foley?

No kidding? Alright, and then did you move to Atlanta?

• 29:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 29:58H. Foley?

Okay. And then how long you were down, were you down there?

• 30:00Speaker 03

I, so I did two years at Georgia Southern and I would go to Savannah, do open mics down there. And then I was in Atlanta proper for like nine months.

• 30:10H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 30:10Speaker 03

And then I was in Boise, Idaho.

• 30:12H. Foley?

The hotbed? Alright. What were you doing there?

• 30:15Speaker 03

I was there for three years and then I've been here for four years.

• 30:18H. Foley?

Wait, why were you in Boise?

• 30:20Speaker 03

Um, I had a buddy, the people I was living with when I graduated college, wanted to move out there and do like mountain bike stuff. So I, I just went with them. But I never did any of that stuff. I was like, oh, just go hang out.

• 30:35Speaker 01

  It's crazy.

• 30:36H. Foley?

Were you doing comedy out there?

• 30:37Speaker 03

  Uh huh.

• 30:37H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 30:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:39H. Foley?

How long were you in Austin before you popped on Tony?

• 30:42Speaker 03

Um, well, I met Red Band after maybe a month of being here.

• 30:47H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 30:48Speaker 03

And at that time, I was, I was living in my car. So I met Red Band and William, just randomly.

• 30:54H. Foley?

  All right.

• 30:54Speaker 03

Um, and then I did Kill Tony, maybe eight months later or something.

• 31:00H. Foley?

You were in the car for eight months?

• 31:01Speaker 03

I was in the car for six months. Yeah.

• 31:03H. Foley?

Whoa. Where would you park it?

• 31:05Speaker 03

  At Walmart.

• 31:06Speaker 01

Yeah. I mean, that is a place where a lot of people, it's like a safe haven that you can sleep in.

• 31:10H. Foley?

Showering at Friends, all that kind of stuff, making it work?

• 31:12Speaker 03

Yeah, showered at Friends and Planet Fitness. Yeah.

• 31:14H. Foley?

Working a day job at all?

• 31:16Speaker 03

Um, no, just trying to make it work with comedy.

• 31:19H. Foley?

Where'd you get money? How did you, did you?

• 31:20Speaker 03

I would, I would do DoorDash.

• 31:22H. Foley?

  Okay, in the car.

• 31:23Speaker 03

I would DoorDash and then I would try to make the money from the gigs I was getting, which is like 10 or 20.

• 31:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 31:29Speaker 03

But when you're living in your car, there's no overhead.

• 31:31Speaker 01

What, sure. What is that car at that time?

• 31:34Speaker 03

A Ford Escape. So it's not, it has a little bit of space.

• 31:37H. Foley?

  Where'd you get that car?

• 31:39Speaker 03

  I bought it in Idaho.

• 31:41H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 31:41Speaker 03

  From working.

• 31:42H. Foley?

So you're making it work. All right.

• 31:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 31:44Speaker 01

Jesus Christ. What was your first proper job as a kid? Like, did you?

• 31:48Speaker 03

I worked at, I worked at like seven different pizza places. I was just a delivery driver.

• 31:52Speaker 01

Delivery guy. You, man, you, if I opened the door and you had my pizza, I'd go, something, everything's right in the world right now. This guy's high as fuck. Car's still banged, banged up granddams running out front.

• 32:04H. Foley?

There's three slices missing. Deal with it.

• 32:07Speaker 03

I, uh, when I was in college, I, I get, when I drink, I get delirium tremor. So I get the shakes and I would have to drink before.

• 32:13Speaker 01

  Pretty sweet. All right.

• 32:15Speaker 03

I would have to drink before I drove. So I would have to drink to safely drive. So, cause I would have alcoholic seizures. So I would be delivering pizzas and I'd be like crushing, uh, these little Four Loko things called bootleggers. And my backseat was just full of bootleggers. I would just be driving. But I wasn't any drunker than the next guy. It was just kind of.

• 32:35H. Foley?

Who are you driving next to?

• 32:36Speaker 03

Sound logic, but it was a college town. Like, I don't know. Yeah. But, yeah.

• 32:42Speaker 01

Have you ever been arrested? Like proper?

• 32:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:45Speaker 01

  Yeah. For what?

• 32:46Speaker 03

  Um, I've been a jail.

• 32:47H. Foley?

Are you listening to the show?

• 32:49Speaker 01

  Tax for all.

• 32:51Speaker 03

I've been in jail several times. I'm in jail four times. Three times for drunk in public and one time for shoplifting.

• 33:00H. Foley?

You gotta be really drunk in public to get drunk in public.

• 33:04Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 33:04Speaker 01

It's usually like the, "Hey, just go home." "Get out of my house!" or whatever, like.

• 33:09Speaker 03

Well, that's the thing is they would be like, "Keep it moving." And I'd be like, "What'd you fucking say to me?"

• 33:13Speaker 01

Yeah, it's always the cops back.

• 33:15Speaker 03

Oh my god, yeah, I was incorrigible. Yeah, I was very, police always made me super angry. So I'd be drunk, they'd be like, "Keep it moving." "Don't you fucking tell me what to do, you piece of shit."

• 33:25Speaker 01

"I pay your salary or something."

• 33:27Speaker 03

"Go bust a meth lab, you fucking pig."

• 33:30H. Foley?

Jesus. Just a traffic cop, hey, take it easy, kid. What were you stealing at Walmart?

• 33:37Speaker 03

I was stealing from a Publix.

• 33:39H. Foley?

  A Publix, I'm sorry.

• 33:40Speaker 03

And I had, Walmart, back then, they didn't have those little gates. So it was a free-for-all. The, the rule of thumb was to steal from Walmart, because they had a no chase policy. So when I was eight-

• 33:50Speaker 01

I love how you know like the corporate bylaws of each, of each big box store.

• 33:54H. Foley?

He's going to the stores that have a chase policy?

• 33:57Speaker 03

Just for the thrill of it.

• 33:59H. Foley?

  Come get me, bastards.

• 34:00Speaker 01

I heard Publix just hired a fucking outside linebacker. Chase you out.

• 34:05Speaker 03

Well, all I ever wanted was for someone to tell me to stop.

• 34:10Speaker 03

I just wanted somebody to, to bring my reign to an end.

• 34:13H. Foley?

  Is that true?

• 34:14Speaker 03

  No, I don't know, maybe.

• 34:16Speaker 01

  Fucking high on tusk, dude.

• 34:17H. Foley?

I tell you, I got real deep for a second, I was like, "This kid's alright."

• 34:19Speaker 01

Also, I thought the same thing, and I'm like, "I'm for sure someone told him to stop stealing."

• 34:24H. Foley?

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 34:26Speaker 01

The police, the judge, his parents.

• 34:27Speaker 03

There was dozens of people who told me to stop. I had a support system, but I did not.

• 34:33Speaker 01

  I did not care.

• 34:34H. Foley?

Yeah. Ah, man, I love you. This is fucking great.

• 34:38Speaker 01

  You are fucking-

• 34:39H. Foley?

  You're screwballs.

• 34:40Speaker 01

  All over the road.

• 34:41H. Foley?

Dude. What did that, what's your, what's your pop say now? He fucking went, what, throw all that shit with you?

• 34:46Speaker 01

You got a, you got a solid, good career, you're fucking, you're fucking killing it.

• 34:49Speaker 03

It's going really good. Yeah, he comes, he came to watch me in like four or five cities last year, so.

• 34:54Speaker 01

  That's very nice.

• 34:55H. Foley?

This has to blow his mind.

• 34:57Speaker 03

  I think it does.

• 34:57H. Foley?

He probably sits there and is like, fuck it, look at him.

• 35:00Speaker 03

I know. Yeah, I think it truly, and for good reason, I think they both 100% thought I would be dead by now. So.

• 35:08H. Foley?

  Buddy.

• 35:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 35:08H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 35:09Speaker 03

Um, yeah, they're very, I'm, I'm in Chicago this week and he's coming to see me in Chicago and, uh, then my mom's going to my other shows in Chicago, so that's continuing. I'm doing Old Town Zanies and Rosemont.

• 35:20Speaker 01

  Rosemont, yeah.

• 35:21H. Foley?

Have they come together at all that, over the years?

• 35:23Speaker 03

  Uh, no.

• 35:25H. Foley?

  No?

• 35:25Speaker 03

They don't see eye to eye. They don't talk.

• 35:27H. Foley?

  Gotcha. Alright.

• 35:29Speaker 03

But I will tell you, I was, when I was arrested for shoplifting, not to harp on this, I, just because it's a funny story, I, I went in there to steal beer and it was like four or five in the morning and I was on a bunch of Ritalin and I, uh, and I was blackout drunk, obviously. And I tried to fill the shopping cart. I was so drunk, I didn't make it to the beer aisle. I just started pour, like, clearing shelves into the, into the cart.

• 35:54H. Foley?

  Bunch of Fabuloso.

• 35:55Speaker 03

Yeah, it was random stuff, like lunch meat. It was mostly lunch meat. And I got in the car, the manager followed me out and he was like, hey, come on, I know you didn't pay for that. And I was like, for sure. And I was just throwing myself in my car. Yeah, definitely. A hundred percent. We'll take care of it.

• 36:11Speaker 01

  I'll be right back.

• 36:11Speaker 03

Yeah, it's one of those things where you're saying something and you're doing the opposite. So I was going, oh yeah, for sure. I'm going to come in there and pay for it. And then I just got in my car and drove away. And, uh, they showed up at my house because I got my license plate, so.

• 36:22H. Foley?

But it was just. Is your parents' house?

• 36:24Speaker 03

  Yeah, my mom's house.

• 36:25H. Foley?

Okay, so this, you're still in high school.

• 36:26Speaker 01

He opens up, what took you so long?

• 36:27Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:28Speaker 01

  Covered in lunch meat?

• 36:32Speaker 03

  Well, I.

• 36:32H. Foley?

It's got the biggest sandwich in the world.

• 36:36Speaker 03

All I ever wanted was for someone to tell me to stop. Having a cold cut.

• 36:43H. Foley?

  Okay. Alright.

• 36:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:46H. Foley?

Who are you living with now?

• 36:48Speaker 03

I have my own apartment. I live by myself.

• 36:50Speaker 01

  That's amazing.

• 36:51H. Foley?

  Fucking spot.

• 36:51Speaker 01

What kind of car you got now?

• 36:53Speaker 03

  I, I just bought a new car. It is a 2018 Toyota 4Runner.

• 36:59H. Foley?

  Kid's got a new 4Runner out there.

• 37:01Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 37:01H. Foley?

I seen it pull up. I was like, that can't be him.

• 37:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 37:05H. Foley?

  It's got the whip.

• 37:06Speaker 01

We were, we were taking bets on. How you arrived?

• 37:08H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 37:09Speaker 01

He's like, do you think he takes an Uber? Is he driving? I was like, Rick Shaw? I don't know. Who knows with this fucking guy?

• 37:14Speaker 03

Well, I have some dollars now. I did like 50 cities last year.

• 37:18H. Foley?

  Yeah, man.

• 37:19Speaker 03

  I bought a car.

• 37:20Speaker 01

  That's great. Love to fucking.

• 37:21H. Foley?

  How fucking awesome is that?

• 37:22Speaker 03

Yeah, it's exciting. It's super new to me. E- even last December, so not this one, the one before that. I could only sell maybe 20 tickets. So it's pretty exciting.

• 37:31Speaker 01

  That's amazing.

• 37:32H. Foley?

Is this apartment you have your first? Like your own nice apartment?

• 37:37Speaker 03

Yeah, uh huh, my first one.

• 37:38Speaker 01

Is this? The, this might be, is this the first lease you've been on?

• 37:41Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 37:42Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 37:43H. Foley?

Man, what was that credit check like?

• 37:44Speaker 03

That's so funny you say that.

• 37:45H. Foley?

  Holy shit.

• 37:46Speaker 03

It's absolutely true. It's my first lease, yeah.

• 37:49H. Foley?

You probably had to put down 17 million dollars.

• 37:53H. Foley?

We're gonna need 100 months in advance.

• 37:55Speaker 03

My, my credit is not great, understandably. But I, I, also, I'd always lived with girls. So when I moved out of, when I was living in Boise, I was living with a girl, my girlfriend. And then.

• 38:07H. Foley?

  Off the lease.

• 38:08Speaker 03

  Off the lease.

• 38:08H. Foley?

  My man.

• 38:09Speaker 03

  Off the, off the radar.

• 38:09H. Foley?

  Off the grid, baby.

• 38:10Speaker 01

Gotta be able to stick and move, dude.

• 38:13Speaker 03

Yeah, well, I never want to get involved in something that I can't pack up my bags and be gone in 30 seconds. Heat logic.

• 38:20Speaker 01

It's all this, it could be gone.

• 38:21H. Foley?

  Sounds well adjusted.

• 38:24Speaker 03

  Sounds healthy.

• 38:26Speaker 03

So yeah, man, I'd never been on a lease. So it's pretty exciting. I have all my stuff. It's wonderful.

• 38:30H. Foley?

New furniture and all that stuff?

• 38:32Speaker 03

Yeah, I just got a couch last week.

• 38:34Speaker 01

Where'd you buy it? What, what kind of store?

• 38:36Speaker 03

  Discount furniture store.

• 38:37H. Foley?

  That's okay?

• 38:38Speaker 01

  Like, yeah.

• 38:38Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 38:39H. Foley?

You have to put it together?

• 38:40Speaker 03

No, they delivered it. Thankfully, it fit through the door, yeah.

• 38:44H. Foley?

Kind of bed you got over there now?

• 38:45Speaker 03

I got a board mattress company, Freed Mattress, from the William Montgomery Show. And a bed frame that I have a button and it come, that can make the bed stand up.

I'm defending him now. What the fuck, you just turned against me?

• 42:39H. Foley?

  He's a good kid, I'm crying.

• 42:43Speaker 01

Do you know how to tie a tie by any chance?

• 42:44H. Foley?

  No, no.

• 42:46Speaker 03

  I don't own a suit.

• 42:49Speaker 03

I'm working up to a suit, well, I had my, okay, so I have, so I have a little money, but I've had my apartment for like nine months since last May. And I just got a couch, before that I had two director's chairs that I bought at a thrift store. So I had two director's chairs in the middle of the living room and I would just sit there in my director's chairs and watch my movies.

• 43:09H. Foley?

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard.

• 43:11Speaker 03

I had girls over and stuff and they're like, ooh, that's kind of like, that's kind of weird.

• 43:15Speaker 01

Hey, you want to come over and be uncomfortable?

• 43:17Speaker 03

  Well, we can't.

• 43:17H. Foley?

  Take five, everybody.

• 43:20Speaker 01

  That's a wrap on Casey.

• 43:23Speaker 03

Cause we can't sit next to each other either, so.

• 43:25Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a tough move, dude, try to make a move.

• 43:27Speaker 03

Try to get your hand over the director's chair.

• 43:30H. Foley?

You're a young guy, you're doing it step by step, you got the couch, you got the bed, are you cooking over there now?

• 43:34Speaker 03

Sure, cooking a little bit, yeah, spaghetti.

• 43:38Speaker 01

  Is that your dish?

• 43:39Speaker 03

I don't know, I don't cook very often. I mostly eat out, yeah.

• 43:42H. Foley?

Where do you eat out? Do you order in? Or do you go out at a restaurant?

• 43:47Speaker 03

You know, I haven't been, I haven't been home very much. I, uh...

• 43:50H. Foley?

  Kid's working.

• 43:51Speaker 03

  I'm working.

• 43:52Speaker 01

  Out there on the road.

• 43:53Speaker 03

Fifty cities. Under, under riff challenge.

• 43:55H. Foley?

Let me ask you this. How much flying did you do before this took off?

• 44:00Speaker 03

  Uh, not very much.

• 44:01H. Foley?

  Not very much.

• 44:02Speaker 01

How old were you when you got your passport? Do you have your passport?

• 44:06Speaker 03

I have a passport. Yeah, I did Canada. I did Canada three times last year, yeah.

• 44:10Speaker 01

Okay, so is that when you got?

• 44:12Speaker 03

  Got it? Yeah.

• 44:14Speaker 01

  Couple of years ago, probably.

• 44:15Speaker 03

Well, I, when I was 20, I did a month studying abroad in Paris.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  Ah, very nice.

• 44:22H. Foley?

Ultered, man. How the fuck did that happen? How did that happen?

• 44:26Speaker 03

They let the cat out of the bag.

• 44:29Speaker 03

They let the big dog eat. They let me over there, the Tuss tyrant. They called me la enfance de Ribeau.

• 44:36H. Foley?

I don't know what it meant, but I took it as disrespect. Holy shit. How did you like that?

• 44:42Speaker 03

It was great. It was the same cost of doing a semester at Georgia Southern, but it was just in France, so... Oh, I loved it. It was wonderful.

• 44:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's awesome.

• 44:49Speaker 03

I fell in love with a girl from Ghana, and then I never saw her again.

• 44:52H. Foley?

  Man.

• 44:53Speaker 03

  Her name was Judith.

• 44:55Speaker 01

Probably not there, just call me.

• 44:56Speaker 03

  But...

• 44:58H. Foley?

You go over there, you have a twist love affair?

• 45:00Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 45:01H. Foley?

  Under the Parisian lights?

• 45:03Speaker 01

Also, man, girl from Ghana, meeting you, that's like...

• 45:08Speaker 01

That's like exotic to her. You're like, you're as Southern American wacko as you can get, you know what I mean?

• 45:15Speaker 03

Yeah, it was a cultural shift, yeah.

• 45:18Speaker 01

  Shift, I've never heard that.

• 45:21Speaker 03

  It was great.

• 45:21H. Foley?

Where did you stay when you were over there?

• 45:23Speaker 03

At the Université de Paris, the Paris University, yeah.

• 45:28H. Foley?

I don't know why I asked. So a dorm room?

• 45:29Speaker 03

  Yeah, just a dorm room.

• 45:30H. Foley?

Soak up the culture, you go to the Louvre?

• 45:32Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 45:33H. Foley?

Have a little foie gras, go out to the Palace of Versailles?

• 45:35Speaker 03

Yeah, I did. I went out to Versailles one night. Because the train line runs to Versailles. And they have a great train system there.

• 45:44H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 45:44Speaker 03

And then I, I don't remember if I fell asleep or what. But I was out there at Versailles, which is relatively far from Paris. And the train stopped running. So then I was just like in Versailles. In this like golden city that kind of like, it looks like an emperor's city. And it was just like me on the streets. Um, and yeah, it was, it was pretty tough. I don't remember how I got home. I was thinking about that the other day.

• 46:07H. Foley?

Guys, got any lunch meat out here?

• 46:08Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 46:09H. Foley?

Did you like the food over there?

• 46:10Speaker 03

I'm gonna have to shoplift my way back.

• 46:14H. Foley?

  Interpol's looking for you.

• 46:15Speaker 03

Yeah. Uh, yeah, man, the food was good. The chicken was real good.

• 46:19H. Foley?

  The chicken? What?

• 46:20Speaker 03

Well, that's what comes to mind. They have like hormone free chicken or something.

• 46:23H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 46:24Speaker 03

  Yeah. It was delicious.

• 46:26H. Foley?

How's the palate? Do you like a nice dinner?

• 46:28Speaker 03

I have a really, really simple palate. Like meat and cheese.

• 46:31H. Foley?

  Tell us.

• 46:32Speaker 03

  Meat and cheese.

• 46:33Speaker 01

  That's it, meat and cheese.

• 46:34Speaker 03

Cheeseburger, pizza, meat and cheese. Taco enchilada. I almost bit through my tongue eating a cheese enchilada like two days ago. In Cincinnati, I bit my tongue so hard and I turned to my friend and I said, is it there? And uh, I was like, my mouth was full of blood.

• 46:51H. Foley?

Dude, that shit's the worst. Talk about ruining a fucking sandwich.

• 46:54Speaker 03

  I know.

• 46:55H. Foley?

  I fucking hate that.

• 46:56Speaker 03

It's the last bite of the meal too.

• 46:57Speaker 01

Are you a fast food guy?

• 47:00H. Foley?

  Uh huh. It's gotta be.

• 47:00Speaker 01

What's your favorite, what's your like, best of the best? What's the best one you got?

• 47:06Speaker 03

Depends. Pete Terry's is really good out here at the burger place.

• 47:08Speaker 01

Pete Terry's makes a fine burger.

• 47:10H. Foley?

That's kind of a specialty spot.

• 47:11Speaker 03

Sure. You talking about the ba, the basics? I like Taco Bell. Taco Bell good.

• 47:15Speaker 01

  He's a TB man.

• 47:16Speaker 03

  TB.

• 47:16H. Foley?

Man, he is through and through. You're like a Baja Blast, don't you?

• 47:19Speaker 03

I love a frozen Baja Blast. Sure. Slushies.

• 47:22H. Foley?

  Damn gentleman.

• 47:22Speaker 03

  So tasty.

• 47:23H. Foley?

Taliesin Versailles, what are we doing here?

• 47:28Speaker 03

Yeah, I love, uh, I just have a really simple, no onions or anything, just meat and cheese. Yeah.

• 47:34H. Foley?

What don't, what do you hate? Like, like something like onions or tomatoes or broccoli?

• 47:38Speaker 03

Mustard, yeah. Hate mustard and pickles. Hate pickles. I don't even wanna talk about that shit.

• 47:45Speaker 01

Guys, let's move on from here. You're getting me all worked up.

• 47:47H. Foley?

I've never heard anybody that said they hate mustard like that.

• 47:52H. Foley?

What do you put on a burger? A little ketchup, a little mayo?

• 47:54Speaker 03

I, I just started putting ketchup on it about a year ago. So I've worked up to that too.

• 47:58Speaker 01

Man, success has gone to your head. Man, I- Hollywood really changes a guy.

• 48:01H. Foley?

  Real bougie Casey.

• 48:03Speaker 03

  You know what?

• 48:04H. Foley?

Losing touch with the common man.

• 48:06Speaker 03

I can afford it now. I'm gonna treat myself.

• 48:09H. Foley?

  Holy shit.

• 48:09Speaker 01

Have you ever had like, I feel like any weird disease or medical stuff like salmonella or Lyme's disease or anything?

• 48:18Speaker 03

I have this reoccurring thing called iritis, which is an inflammation of the iris, which is a, you can go blind from it. Yeah. I started getting it, I went to a strip club in Atlanta, this is true. I, I hope you believe me.

• 48:33Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 48:34Speaker 03

I pray you'll believe me. On a night just like tonight. And, uh, this is maybe 10 years ago and we went to a strip club and the next day I woke up and I opened my eye and I just started screaming, cause it is a, you know how your eye dilates when it's exposed to sunlight? Iritis is where, when the dilation takes place, it causes a muscle spasm, like as if you're having like a back spasm or like a spasm in your thigh, but it's your eyeball. So it feels like your eyeball's being like torn out of your head. It's extraordinarily painful and I get it once a year.

• 49:08H. Foley?

Freaking me out. What does the strip club have to do with this?

• 49:11Speaker 03

I don't know. I don't know, but it has to be a correlation, right? It has to be a correlation. It can't be, I get this weird, cause it's a super rare disease, only like maybe 50,000 people get it in America every year.

• 49:23H. Foley?

Did you get a lap dance or anything like that?

• 49:25Speaker 03

  Sure, I gotta dance, I won't lie.

• 49:28Speaker 01

I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you.

• 49:28Speaker 03

I gotta dance. I gotta dance.

• 49:31H. Foley?

Touched the seat, touched your eye or something?

• 49:35Speaker 03

Put my contacts in, oh, I dropped my contact, put it back in.

• 49:39Speaker 01

This won't be a bad idea.

• 49:41H. Foley?

  Do you wear contacts?

• 49:42Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, I don't have them in right now, but yeah, I do.

• 49:44H. Foley?

Do you near sight it or far sight it?

• 49:46Speaker 03

I always forget what that means, but I can't see far.

• 49:49H. Foley?

  Drove here?

• 49:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:52Speaker 01

  The windshield of the

• 49:53Speaker 03

Coma is just one big contact lens.

• 49:56H. Foley?

Why wouldn't you have them on? Just out of curiosity.

• 49:58Speaker 03

I have glasses in my car.

• 49:59H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 49:59Speaker 03

  So it's all good.

• 50:00H. Foley?

  All right.

• 50:01Speaker 03

Have you ever been to a monster truck rally? I wish. I had Gravedigger reach out. What? Um, yeah, yeah, Gravedigger. It's a girl who drives it.

• 50:10H. Foley?

You're officially the most famous person I've ever met.

• 50:13Speaker 03

And she, she messaged me a couple of weeks ago and she said that I could come to a rally or something. Wow. I'm never around. Go! I would love that. Yeah, I would love that. That's, I went to one. It was fucking, it's wild.

• 50:26H. Foley?

  Oh, I bet.

• 50:27Speaker 03

It's a great, they really put on a show. I think I went, I probably went when I was a kid. We were always going to like rodeos and my mom always had like really, really like redneck boyfriends. Like Bobby Ray, Billy Ray. Mm-hmm.

• 50:38H. Foley?

  Those are actual names?

• 50:39Speaker 03

Yeah. Bobby Ray. Bobby Ray. Is she still with your stepdad? Uh, they divorced a couple of years ago. Gotcha. Yeah, he wasn't the best guy. Yeah. Sure.

• 50:49H. Foley?

Otherwise, for the most part, the families are doing okay?

• 50:52Speaker 03

Yeah, they're doing good. My mom lives in, uh, southern Illinois again. She moved back to our old family farm. So she out there, no, no neighbors in the middle of cornfields out there.

• 51:02H. Foley?

Wait a minute. You had a family farm at a certain point? Your mother had a family farm?

• 51:07Speaker 03

Your mom's family. From like her childhood. Yeah, it's like her great grandfather. It's like two acres. And then a little, little farmhouse out there. Yeah.

• 51:15H. Foley?

And you got, she kept it all the way through?

• 51:17Speaker 03

Yeah, it had changed hands to different people in the family. And then now she has it. Yeah.

• 51:22H. Foley?

  That's pretty sweet.

• 51:23Speaker 03

Yeah, it's really nice out there. So she's got her horses and, uh, she's got like seven or eight horses she's gathered through the years.

• 51:30H. Foley?

  That she owns?

• 51:31Speaker 03

Yeah, well, there's some in the barn that are leased there, like.

• 51:36H. Foley?

  Trying to make the cash?

• 51:37Speaker 03

  People payer. Yeah. Of course.

• 51:39H. Foley?

And does she train the horses that she owns to, to perform?

• 51:42Speaker 03

Yeah, she, yeah, she still shows them sometimes. Yeah. She won, uh, something at the Congress, the world court, the world horse congress, which is like the Super Bowl of horse riding a couple of years ago.

• 51:52H. Foley?

  No shit?

• 51:53Speaker 03

She won a show or something. Yeah.

• 51:55H. Foley?

All right. So she's a good trainer?

• 51:57Speaker 03

  Not bad. Yeah.

• 51:58H. Foley?

What about medical wise? You getting, you got insurance? You got health insurance?

• 52:01Speaker 03

I just got it last month. Yeah. Yeah. This kid's on the fucking.

• 52:04Speaker 01

  Up and on dude.

• 52:05H. Foley?

  Dude, you are fucking.

• 52:06Speaker 03

  Things are looking up.

• 52:07H. Foley?

  Kids making moves.

• 52:09Speaker 03

  I just got home.

• 52:10H. Foley?

The bed goes up and down.

• 52:11Speaker 03

  I know.

• 52:11H. Foley?

  What are you doing?

• 52:13Speaker 03

  So cool.

• 52:14H. Foley?

Just does that 10 times a day.

• 52:17H. Foley?

Did you go and get a physical?

• 52:19Speaker 03

  No.

• 52:21H. Foley?

Just wanna flash the card for the chicks.

• 52:23Speaker 03

Well, they sent me a letter in the mail, cuz I was just, I was gone for three weeks. I just got back yesterday and they said, hey, we're gonna cancel your insurance. They might've canceled it cuz I didn't pay it, so.

• 52:32H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 52:33Speaker 03

But I had medical insurance, if only for a moment.

• 52:35H. Foley?

  That's alright.

• 52:36Speaker 01

  Can re-enroll at any time.

• 52:37H. Foley?

Flying without a net, I'm with it. How do you like the traveling? Since that's new to you. You like a nice hotel? You like a hotel? Anything particular?

• 52:47Speaker 03

I like it. I like it. I feel generally more, like my life is more together when I'm on the road than when I'm home.

• 52:54H. Foley?

  Sure. Alright.

• 52:56Speaker 03

Cuz I don't have, I have a girlfriend. I have a bisexual girlfriend in Atlanta and um.

• 53:03Speaker 01

Lot of details that were included in that.

• 53:06Speaker 03

I have a bisexual artist girlfriend and um, she lives in Atlanta, so I don't remember where I was even going with that. I guess I just wanted you guys to know that.

• 53:14H. Foley?

You were just bragging to the boys, that's what you're doing.

• 53:16Speaker 01

Shoehorn that in, I respect that.

• 53:18H. Foley?

You two nerds ever kiss a girl, huh?

• 53:23Speaker 03

  I don't, I truly don't know where I was going with that.

• 53:26Speaker 01

  Travel, I think.

• 53:27Speaker 03

Sure, travel. When I come back.

• 53:29H. Foley?

  I asked you about hotels.

• 53:30Speaker 03

When I come back to, oh, hotels? Yeah, for sure. My girlfriend's by.

• 53:36Speaker 03

When I'm home, I feel lost. Like, I'll be gone, I've just been to, last year, I was gone way too much. Then I would come home and I feel like I wouldn't know my friends anymore and I would just feel really lost.

• 53:46H. Foley?

  Here you need.

• 53:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:48H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 53:49Speaker 03

But, so I'm trying to find a better, after the next couple of weeks, it's, I'm doing weekends now, which is a blessing, so I will be home more than I was.

• 53:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 53:58Speaker 03

Cuz when you're doing one-nighters, you can line up, I mean, you could be gone forever, so, yeah. Yeah, sometimes I'll be gone for like one or two months, yeah.

• 54:04Speaker 01

Do you have an airline you like to fly? Are you loyal to one airline?

• 54:07Speaker 03

  United.

• 54:08H. Foley?

  Oh. You're United, man.

• 54:10Speaker 03

Yeah. But I'm thinking about switching to Delta cuz I lost my bag.

• 54:14Speaker 01

Bastards. Take that, United. Yeah, we're Delta men. Delta is a fine, fine company, I would say.

• 54:21Speaker 03

  It's nice.

• 54:22H. Foley?

How often do you fly out to Atlanta or bring her here? How's that working?

• 54:26Speaker 03

It's new. She is one of my really good friends from high school who I, who, no, I'm sorry. She...

• 54:33Speaker 01

  Never met her before.

• 54:36Speaker 03

One of my really good friends from high school who I moved to Idaho with, that is her brother. So she is my, one of my best friend's sisters.

• 54:43H. Foley?

So she grew up with you?

• 54:44Speaker 03

Uh, basically. I knew her from when I was like, maybe 18.

• 54:47H. Foley?

So she saw the whole thing?

• 54:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 54:50H. Foley?

  Now you're...

• 54:51Speaker 03

Now we're dating, yeah. We're in love. We just started dating like a month ago, so it's super new. But it's interesting, because I, I was gone, you know, I've seen the world, I've been out there, I've, I've done different things, and then I, I came back to finally be with someone who is from where I'm from, you know?

• 55:06Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 55:07Speaker 03

At the end of the day, you, I came home, and I said, you know what, this person, I really looked at her and I was like, you know what I really like? You know, I was searching for something and it was right there the whole time. Yeah.

• 55:17H. Foley?

  Is this fucking kid alright?

• 55:19Speaker 01

Hold you, he's a writer, fucking guy.

• 55:21H. Foley?

God damn it, look at you.

• 55:23Speaker 03

  It's true.

• 55:24H. Foley?

I fucking love this shit. Look at him, man.

• 55:28Speaker 03

I went around the world, but she was right there the whole time.

• 55:31H. Foley?

  Sorry, I gotta go.

• 55:32Speaker 01

  I love her.

• 55:34H. Foley?

  Sorry, I gotta fucking go.

• 55:35Speaker 01

My bisexual girlfriend. She swings both ways.

• 55:39H. Foley?

Talking about the bisexual part, right?

• 55:40Speaker 01

It's real, it's real hot, turns me on.

• 55:42H. Foley?

Gives you a titty twister and walks out?

• 55:46H. Foley?

  God damn it.

• 55:47Speaker 01

Very, very, uh, yeah. Few more AYG questions. Do you have any aunts or uncles that you don't refer to by their first name? Like an aunt, or like, you know, an Uncle Knuckles, or a fucking Aunt Supie or something?

• 56:02Speaker 03

  Aunt Supie?

• 56:03Speaker 01

  That's a real one.

• 56:04Speaker 03

Aunt Supie? That's a real one?

• 56:06Speaker 01

That's my aunt's name, Aunt Supie.

• 56:07Speaker 03

Aunt Supie. Well, I have an Aunt Cindy, so that's, that's, it's very close.

• 56:13Speaker 03

Not as weird, but close. Uh, no.

• 56:17Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 56:18Speaker 03

  Yeah, Joey, Jeff.

• 56:21Speaker 01

Kind of right up the middle.

• 56:22Speaker 03

  Brad.

• 56:23Speaker 01

  You got an Uncle Brad?

• 56:24Speaker 03

  I got an Uncle Brad.

• 56:25H. Foley?

  Uncle Brad's alright.

• 56:26Speaker 03

He's the main uncle. He's got a bunch of kids. A bunch of my cousins are via Brad.

• 56:30Speaker 01

  Yeah, they come to-

• 56:31Speaker 03

  Kin of Brad.

• 56:32Speaker 01

  By way of Brad.

• 56:33H. Foley?

  You're close with the family?

• 56:34Speaker 03

  Relatively. Just around the holidays.

• 56:37H. Foley?

Is that what you, I was gonna ask you, where do you spend your Christmas?

• 56:39Speaker 03

  My dad's house.

• 56:40H. Foley?

Dad's house, do the tree, all that kinda stuff?

• 56:42Speaker 03

Hmm, yeah. Yeah. My, my little brothers are younger. Now they're older, sixteen and eighteen. But yeah, so I, uh, yeah, whatever. Every Christmas I'll fly home, go do it down there, cause they're little kids, so.

• 56:54Speaker 01

Yeah, it's mostly for them, yeah.

• 56:56H. Foley?

  Thanksgiving?

• 56:57Speaker 03

  I stay here.

• 56:58H. Foley?

  Stay here?

• 56:59Speaker 03

But if, if I did do it in the past, it's always been at my dad's, yeah.

• 57:02H. Foley?

Now, like this year, will you decorate your apartment with maybe put a little tree, do a little something, or no?

• 57:08Speaker 03

I have a little Santa by the door.

• 57:10H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 57:10Speaker 03

But I don't, you know, I didn't have a girlfriend or anything like living with me, so it's all just me. So my apartment is covered like head to toe in like Donnie Darko, Paul Thomas Anderson, like guy stuff, Rust Cole, Drew Detective shit.

• 57:25Speaker 03

Charlie Kaufman. This is all like different directors and then pictures of me dressed as Grimace. So.

• 57:31H. Foley?

Do you have that little tiny mirror that he used to look through?

• 57:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 57:37Speaker 03

  It's a meditation. It's a form of meditation.

• 57:41Speaker 01

I mean, I, you know, pretty open and closed case I think we have here.

• 57:46H. Foley?

  You flossing every day?

• 57:50Speaker 03

I have, I just recently started.

• 57:53H. Foley?

  Good man.

• 57:53Speaker 01

That sounds like the most political response I've ever heard in my life. I've heard very good things about this flossing. I'm thinking about starting it.

• 58:00Speaker 03

  Wouldn't happen any other way.

• 58:02H. Foley?

You keep the apartment clean? You got a vacuum and all that stuff?

• 58:04Speaker 03

Yeah, I keep it pretty clean. Yeah.

• 58:06H. Foley?

Clean guy, wash the dishes, all that shit?

• 58:08Speaker 03

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Keep it pretty tip-top.

• 58:10Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 58:11Speaker 03

Uh, cleanliness is next to godliness. They taught us that at military school.

• 58:15Speaker 01

Taught me that when I was digging stumps.

• 58:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:17H. Foley?

It's gonna sound crazy. You're gonna think I'm nuts. I genuinely don't know if the kid's garbage. I really don't know.

• 58:24Speaker 01

Well, is it, I mean, you're, dude, he's got you in some sort of wonderlust.

• 58:28H. Foley?

  I love him.

• 58:29Speaker 01

  This is-

• 58:30H. Foley?

  Talk about rooting for somebody.

• 58:32Speaker 01

He escaped rehab. And he's been, he referred to it as tusk.

• 58:36H. Foley?

He went through a lot, right? He's got the apartments clean.

• 58:38Speaker 01

There was director chairs. He lives in a vampire bed, it sounds like.

• 58:43Speaker 03

  But it's an artist's life. It's an artist, it's, it's bohemian.

• 58:46H. Foley?

I wouldn't say how he operates now, what I, what I deem that garbage. He's got his shit fucking together.

• 58:54Speaker 01

I gotta push back on this. This is fucking, he's, he, he likes frozen Baja Blast.

• 58:59Speaker 03

  It's nature or nurture.

• 59:01H. Foley?

What spaghetti do you make? Regular spaghetti?

• 59:04Speaker 03

Can I be both? Duality of man.

• 59:06Speaker 01

Sure. You can walk in both worlds.

• 59:07Speaker 03

Yeah, I dip my toes in fish. Uh, spaghetti? I don't really make spaghetti. I was just trying to impress y'all. I don't make-

• 59:13Speaker 01

Come on, what are we doing here? He's got you fucking-

• 59:17Speaker 03

I just wanted you all to think that I could cook.

• 59:19H. Foley?

  Do you drink milk?

• 59:20Speaker 03

  Mm-mm.

• 59:21H. Foley?

  Do you like milk?

• 59:22Speaker 03

If y'all do. I don't drink it like that. I don't drink it like that.

• 59:26Speaker 01

I'm starting to think there's no bisexual girlfriend.

• 59:28Speaker 03

I don't drink it like that.

• 59:29H. Foley?

Okay. What about mayonnaise? You like mayonnaise?

• 59:32Speaker 03

  No, man.

• 59:33Speaker 01

He's a plain Jane, meat and cheese.

• 59:34Speaker 03

Meat, I just started using ketchup.

• 59:38Speaker 03

  Ketchup is new for me.

• 59:39H. Foley?

You're trying and it ain't there. What are you reading right now?

• 59:43Speaker 03

I'm reading a book about a doomed Arctic expedition, expedition called The Worst Journey in the World.

• 59:49H. Foley?

  That's pretty good.

• 59:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:52Speaker 01

He can read, I'll give you that. The kid's fucking Georgia trash.

• 59:57H. Foley?

  You peeing in the shower?

• 59:59Speaker 03

Yeah, I piss in the shower.

• 1:00:00H. Foley?

  Brush your teeth in there?

• 1:00:02Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:00:03H. Foley?

You leave the toothbrush in there?

• 1:00:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:00:05H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 1:00:07Speaker 01

Kid's fucking, what do you want for me? Come on, man, he's a good kid. Good kid, I don't know, I mean, why you making it sound like I'm trashin' him? What the fuck? Gotta call balls and strikes. If we run an honest ship, honest show here. He set a camper on fire and then put, tried to put it out with fucking nail polish remover.

• 1:00:23H. Foley?

That could have easily been a bottle of Gatorade and we wouldn't need to be talking about it right now.

• 1:00:27Speaker 03

It was purple, yeah. I would have been a hero. They would have threw me a, they would have threw me a fucking parade.

• 1:00:32H. Foley?

Man, what if that's the moment where it would all turn around?

• 1:00:35Speaker 01

Yeah, you know, he becomes the quarterback, stars, shortstop, local hero.

• 1:00:39H. Foley?

Are you writing anything currently? Do you write anything, are you writing anything long form right now?

• 1:00:43Speaker 03

  Yeah, uh-huh.

• 1:00:44H. Foley?

  Got a laptop?

• 1:00:45Speaker 03

  Yeah. Writing scripts.

• 1:00:48H. Foley?

Writing a script, kid's got a laptop. What, you got a Mac?

• 1:00:50Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:00:51H. Foley?

  Damn.

• 1:00:51Speaker 03

HP. Damn, I was rooting for you.

• 1:00:54Speaker 01

  A Kindle.

• 1:00:56Speaker 03

I got, I got an HP.

• 1:00:58H. Foley?

You could type on a typewriter.

• 1:01:00Speaker 03

Uh, no. Hunter S. Thompson style. No, not Thompson style. I, I saw an interview once with Paul Thomas Anderson and he said that he learned how to direct movies from watching a bunch of movies. So, and I was like, you know, I'm basically him. I basically made Boogie Nights when I was 26. I am la infonduble. I am a wonderkind.

• 1:01:20Speaker 01

He was 26 when he did that?

• 1:01:21Speaker 03

He was really young. He was 26. Dude, he made Magnolia when he was 30, which is like this beautiful three hour opus. It's unbelievable.

• 1:01:28H. Foley?

  Frank T.J. Mackey.

• 1:01:30Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. So I figure that's probably where I'm at in my life. I'm just Paul Thomas Anderson. So that's how I view myself. And then I go on stage to talk about worms for an hour.

• 1:01:42Speaker 01

Hey, come on, what are we doing? I love them.

• 1:01:43H. Foley?

Buddy, we love you. Hundred percent garbage. But man, honestly, bro, what a fucking tale and congratulations.

• 1:01:50Speaker 03
