Hi guys, this is Tony Robbins. You're listening to Habits and Hustle. Crush it.

• 0:06Jen Cohen?

In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I sit down with Robert Herschavec, entrepreneur, Emmy Award winner, and lead shark on Shark Tank. We explore, and he explores, the mindset and habits that keep him clear and effective when the stakes get high. He shares the discipline that keeps him steady under pressure and the lessons that reshaped his definition of success. We also talk about how he protects his energy in a world that rewards noise. This was a really great episode. I loved talking to him. We got along very well. Robert also is a big fitness fanatic enthusiast, so we talk all about fitness,

• 0:47Jen Cohen?

with the role that that keystone habit had in his life and has in his life. This was a really great episode, you guys, and I really hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed having this conversation. Enjoy.

• 1:05Jen Cohen?

All right, you guys, I have one of my favorite people on TV on the show today. It's Rob Herschavec. He is the shark from Shark Tank that I've always loved, and I'm sure some of you agree. And he's going to talk all about business, life, success, and we're going to get into it.

• 1:23Speaker 00

  And working out.

• 1:24Jen Cohen?

  Oh, duh.

• 1:25Speaker 00

You're going to teach me about everything I need to know?

• 1:28Jen Cohen?

Absolutely. We're going to talk a lot about health, a lot about fitness, because he's also a fanatic in fitness. So we're going to have to like, kind of go back and forth with notes. So here we go.

• 1:38Speaker 00

  Have you always been fit?

• 1:39Jen Cohen?

  I've always been very athletic.

• 1:41Speaker 00

Do you think you're fitter now than when you were younger?

• 1:46Jen Cohen?

Maybe, but not because, but at the time when I was fit, like I was always known to be like, super fit, even though I wasn't as fit looking right now because times changed. You know, like I wasn't doing as many heavyweights. I was doing, like my endurance and stamina have always been like, Off the charts, like always, but I but I've worked it like I I noticed that when I started to exercise, I just actually I just did a TED Talk on this last so I from from when I when I met you, I flew to Miami to do a TED Talk on this exact topic, which is how I think

• 2:26Jen Cohen?

like your SATs are not as important as your squat rack. And I gave the differences between what what I learned, you know, taking fitness seriously versus going to college. And I have two degrees. So I use that as like a juxtaposition, because I truly believe that like what it does for your brain and your overall like self-confidence, like catapults your life beyond right beyond like a college degree that you learn like going to Harvard or U of T or wherever. You know what I mean? Like, to me, it it it basically like rebuilds your brain to feel that you can actually do something. So and if you don't if you don't do it, okay, you can do it again. And it also

• 3:10Jen Cohen?

like the right self-regulation, delayed gratification, it's way right, it's way beyond discipline.

• 3:16Speaker 00

I used to think fit body, fit mind kind of thing. And I'm a big believer in that I've really got into I've gone down this rabbit hole very deeply.

• 3:25Jen Cohen?

  I'm sure.

• 3:27Speaker 00

Doesn't it amaze you, though? So putting that aside for a second, I'm sure you've met lots of successful people.

• 3:33Jen Cohen?

  A few.

• 3:35Speaker 00

You meet a successful person who in Australia, we call them a boom balada. And it's a general term. It doesn't mean just chubby or fat. It just means out of shape.

• 3:44Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 3:45Speaker 00

In in many ways, not just physically, but just like.

• 3:49Jen Cohen?

  Overall, mentally, yeah.

• 3:50Speaker 00

It's just a term people use. How do you juxtap how do you align that in your mind?

• 3:58Speaker 00

Somebody who's like that and highly successful.

• 4:01Jen Cohen?

I don't. So I believe, and funny because I saw you say something about this that was actually contrary. And I was going to ask you about it. So I might as well just ask you now. Oh, should I introduce? I'm going to introduce you.

• 4:13Speaker 00

No, but how do you do that? Like, don't, don't you find that?

• 4:16Jen Cohen?

I do. I find it interesting. Well, this is, I don't understand. So like, I believe that if you take, like, if you get those life skills, soft skills, that I believe that you do with like fitness, like staying in, staying in shape, having discipline, the delayed gratification, patience, all these things, that primes your brain for success in every other area of your life. I really believe that. And I don't understand. I really believe that. I think that like,

• 4:45Speaker 00

  I agree with you.

• 4:46Jen Cohen?

You're, you're priming your brain. I'm not saying that just because someone's fit, that they're automatically going to be a billionaire. But I would, I would argue that because they took fitness seriously, like create a practice of like consistency, positive habits, you know, taking care of themselves, it did ricochet into their professional life and their personal life, better than it would have if they didn't.

• 5:11Speaker 00

So I used to believe that.

• 5:13Jen Cohen?

  I, mhm.

• 5:14Speaker 00

  And I still believe that.

• 5:16Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 5:17Speaker 00

But I do think that there are, and Mark has a great saying on this. Somebody, I forget how it came up, but somebody came on the show and said, oh my gosh, you should invest me. I'm really passionate. And Mark said, nobody gives a shit about your passion.

• 5:31Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 5:33Speaker 00

I want to know what you're obsessed with.

• 5:35Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 5:35Speaker 00

Like, I want to know what you're truly every day wake up obsessed with. I've met people who are not disciplined with their mental health, with their physical body, with their family. They're just not nice, good people. And they don't take care of themselves and they have no discipline that way.

• 5:56Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 5:57Speaker 00

But they're insanely obsessed with a singular task in their business.

• 6:04Jen Cohen?

  Right, a singular task.

• 6:05Speaker 00

Singular task. So they are, in that field, the absolute, absolute best. And I would say, to some degree, I was like that when I got going with cyber.

• 6:19Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 6:19Speaker 00

Like, I was like, the guy.

• 6:21Jen Cohen?

  Right, hyper-focused.

• 6:23Speaker 00

  Hyper-focused.

• 6:24Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 6:25Speaker 00

And so I had a hard time with that, because I'm like, well, you know, because to me, I can't be successful unless I have a level of discipline with my body, with my mind, with my family. Like, I can't, it's the Jekyll and Hyde thing.

• 6:39Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 6:39Speaker 00

Like, I can't be one-way with you and then go home and beat my dog.

• 6:43Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 6:45Speaker 00

Like, I can't do that. And so I really thought about that, and what I realized was, success isn't just about the money you make.

• 6:56Jen Cohen?

  Exactly.

• 6:56Speaker 00

Success is your life. So I used to think, oh, my gosh, that guy is so much more successful than I am because he's worth, you know, a few hundred million more than me. And then I looked at it and I said, I wouldn't give up everything for that life.

• 7:11Jen Cohen?

  Exactly.

• 7:12Speaker 00

And over time, it changed. And I said, yeah, I want to be wealthy, for sure. I mean, people that say they don't want to make a lot of money are full of it.

• 7:22Jen Cohen?

  The bull, yeah, exactly.

• 7:23Speaker 00

Like, money makes your life easier.

• 7:25Jen Cohen?

  Much, yeah.

• 7:26Speaker 00

For sure. But I also want to be healthy, I want to have a great relationship with my kids, so all of those things. So to your point, I don't think you can be a rounded, successful person without that level of discipline.

• 7:40Jen Cohen?

  So, exactly.

• 7:41Speaker 00

  Did you agree with that?

• 7:42Jen Cohen?

Well, 100%. So you asked me initially, you said, well, do I believe that, like, with fitness, whatever? Because to me, success isn't just about how much money you have in the bank. That's one piece of the pie. You can, I know a lot of very rich billionaires who are miserable, who are, like, insecure, who are, who have no friends, who are antisocial, who are overweight, who, overall, just, just because you have money and you have financial success, that doesn't qualify, in my books, as being an overall successful, happy person.

• 8:17Speaker 00

But what, agreed. What quality do they have that gone to that level of success in business?

• 8:24Jen Cohen?

Well, they, maybe they, maybe they're on the spectrum and they are hyper folk, they're, they're able to hyper focused.

• 8:30Speaker 00

  Right.

• 8:30Jen Cohen?

Right? Like, look at Elon Musk. There's nobody more successful technically than him in business or otherwise, right? Like, he is, he is an absolute genius. Look what he's created. But have you ever sat down with him?

• 8:44Speaker 00

  I have.

• 8:45Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 8:45Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 8:46Jen Cohen?

  Do you know his life?

• 8:47Speaker 00

Yeah, I, so it's funny you say that. My son, so we, we have twins.

• 8:52Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 8:52Speaker 00

  And Hudson and Haven.

• 8:54Jen Cohen?

  Good names.

• 8:56Speaker 00

Yeah, it's, uh, Haven, we couldn't have kids. So it was a miracle we could. And so I came up with Haven's name because she's a piece I haven't.

• 9:05Jen Cohen?

  Oh, that's a beautiful.

• 9:06Speaker 00

It was a gift from God.

• 9:07Jen Cohen?

  That's beautiful.

• 9:09Speaker 00

And then I was like, okay, so what do we name the boy?

• 9:11Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 9:12Speaker 00

And I was like in New York and I looked outside, it was the Hudson River. I was like, Hudson.

• 9:17Jen Cohen?

  That's great, though.

• 9:18Speaker 00

I, I feel like I should have put more effort into Hudson.

• 9:21Jen Cohen?

That's what happens all the time.

• 9:22Speaker 00

But he had a lot of challenges. We're really worried about him. ADHD, blah, blah, blah. And he hasn't been diagnosed or anything. But to your point, he has unbelievable ability for insane maniacal focus. The challenge is, you can't always direct where it wants to go.

• 9:47Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 9:48Speaker 00

Like, he'll see a toy and two weeks later, he'll be like, I want that toy. Like, I want that toy.

• 9:54Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 9:54Speaker 00

And he'll describe it in minutia. And I'm always like saying to Kim, if we can just channel that.

• 10:01Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 10:01Speaker 00

How great would that be for that part of his life?

• 10:05Jen Cohen?

  Absolutely.

• 10:05Speaker 00

Because you cannot create something of value in business unless you are hyper focused.

• 10:12Jen Cohen?

Right, you have to be hyper focused.

• 10:14Speaker 00

  You have to be.

• 10:15Jen Cohen?

Exactly. So if some people have that ability because that's how their brain is wired. But for the most part, that doesn't, I've seen like your son hopefully will not be like that. But you know, Elon has been, he has been hyper focused in that one specific area to the detriment of everything else in his life. So to me, is that really success? Because you're the richest man in the world or second richest or whatever?

• 10:42Speaker 00

Do you think? So I have a funny story to tell you.

• 10:44Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 10:44Speaker 00

I used to live in the bridal path.

• 10:46Jen Cohen?

Yeah, don't. I was going to tell you that. I know you did.

• 10:50Speaker 00

  And

• 10:50Jen Cohen?

  I know you did.

• 10:51Speaker 00

When I sold my first business for like

• 10:53Jen Cohen?

  Thirty two million dollars.

• 10:54Speaker 00

Yeah, like, uh, first thing it is, I buy an eight million dollar house.

• 10:59Jen Cohen?

Of course, on the bridal path.

• 11:00Speaker 00

Typical immigrant thing. And it was, it made the front page of the Globe Mail. It was the most expensive home in blah blah. Anyway, I got to know Leslie Dan.

• 11:10Jen Cohen?

Yes, the, is that, is that Leslie?

• 11:12Speaker 00

  Nova Farm.

• 11:12Jen Cohen?

  Yes, okay, yeah.

• 11:14Speaker 00

And he lived right across the street. And every quarter, he'd have these dinners. And I invite all the other rich, successful people in the area, as you can imagine.

• 11:22Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 11:23Speaker 00

And one day, we're having dinner with all these guys and ladies. And I said to him, Leslie, I mean, he just sold his business for two and a half billion or something. I said, Leslie, if I showed you a hundred people, could you predict which ones are going to be successful? Just from meeting them and which ones aren't. Could you tell me which ones are going to be millionaires? And which ones are going to be billionaires or some level of wealth like that? He said, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, which ones are going to be millionaires.

• 12:02Speaker 00

I can't tell you which ones are going to be billionaires because there's one factor to create that level of wealth. That I can't pick up. And what do you think that factor is? In his eyes, this is his opinion.

• 12:17Jen Cohen?

  The ability to be-

• 12:18Speaker 00

The millionaires, he said, if I meet you and ask you a few questions.

• 12:22Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 12:23Speaker 00

To get to that level of success, what do you need? You need self-control. You need discipline. You need good habits. You need-

• 12:31Jen Cohen?

  Work ethic.

• 12:32Speaker 00

You need all the things. Your mom and dad probably show up on time, be nice to people, like those things.

• 12:40Jen Cohen?

  Right, right.

• 12:40Speaker 00

If you don't have those life skills at 20 or something, you're gonna have a hard time. So, most of those people are gonna make it to some degree.

• 12:50Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 12:50Speaker 00

And a millionaire is not that high a bar today.

• 12:54Jen Cohen?

  Right. Isn't that crazy?

• 12:55Speaker 00

Isn't that crazy? Cause I remember I was like, oh, my gosh, if I could be a millionaire one day.

• 13:00Jen Cohen?

I know, like, no one really knew billionaires. Now, they're like much more common.

• 13:03Speaker 00

Everywhere. I think there's, that's good and bad.

• 13:05Jen Cohen?

  I do, too.

• 13:06Speaker 00

So, but the factor to get to billionaire, what do you think it was?

• 13:12Jen Cohen?

I think having the obsessive focus at the detriment of everything else in your life.

• 13:18Speaker 00

  It's a good answer. I would, I would say there's grades of millionaire, right? There's a million, there's 10 million, there's-

• 13:25Jen Cohen?

  100 million?

• 13:26Speaker 00

100, 500 million and so on. His point was, it's one factor and it's luck.

• 13:33Jen Cohen?

  Oh, that's for sure luck.

• 13:35Speaker 00

He said, you can drive your way to hundreds of millions, but to get to that next, you have to have a certain amount of luck. And someone's gonna get lucky, you've got to put yourself in a position to be there. And some people never get lucky.

• 13:52Jen Cohen?

Never get lucky. Do you think you got lucky?

• 13:54Speaker 00

No. No, I think, I think I did it the hard way. I think I, I wasn't smart enough to realize I could have been lucky.

• 14:08Speaker 00

Like I was one of the first people to get into cybersecurity.

• 14:12Jen Cohen?

Back, oh my god, in the eighties or nineties, yeah.

• 14:14Speaker 00

  And so I used-

• 14:15Jen Cohen?

But how did you even know about that? Like, how did you even get into it?

• 14:18Speaker 00

I was smart enough to know to get into it. As I got into it, I used to sell these products, Checkpoint, Vitaly, all these things. If I would have invested in those companies, I would be five times wealthier than I am.

• 14:32Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 14:33Speaker 00

So why didn't I? I was, luck presented it to me. Life presented me those opportunities. I didn't take advantage of them. And I think about this a lot. I think it was fear. I think just as a immigrant, it was fear, one. Two, I didn't dream big enough. You know, Cuban and I had this conversation one time at dinner, and I said to him, "When you were 12 years old, what did you want to be?" He said, "I want to be a billionaire. I want to own a basketball team," and blah, blah, blah, blah. Like, it was like boom, boom, boom.

• 15:06Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 15:07Speaker 00

And it scared me, because when I was 12, I just didn't want to be poor.

• 15:12Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 15:14Speaker 00

And so I said to Mark, I said, "Let me ask you a question. When you get into something, do you think it's going to work out?" He says, "A hundred fucking percent of the time." I said, "Come on." "Every time, every time you invest in a business, every time you get into something, you honestly believe you're going to win at it, you're going to win every single time?" He said, "Yes, without a doubt." And I thought, "Wow!" Because when I get into something-

• 15:45Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 15:46Speaker 00

I hope it wins. I'm confident, but I'm always thinking about protecting my downside, too.

• 15:53Jen Cohen?

Right. So, because he's so, he's so confident, and he believes in himself so much.

• 16:00Speaker 00

His level of belief in himself is so admirable, and it took me a while to understand.

• 16:11Speaker 00

  People like him.

• 16:12Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 16:13Speaker 00

Because at first you take it as arrogance.

• 16:16Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 16:16Speaker 00

That's how I took it. I'm like, oh my gosh, this guy's so arrogant.

• 16:19Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 16:20Speaker 00

What I realized over time is it's hyper confidence. And I have hyper confidence now. I wish I would have had it when I was younger. It took me a long time to shed all the crap of my upbringing and, you know, all the

• 16:39Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 16:40Speaker 00

stuff you go through. But that's why I think anybody can do it. Cause you don't have to get lucky to be here. You can learn all these skills.

• 16:51Jen Cohen?

You know, it's interesting though, I believe that, and I talk about this actually too, that the only difference between someone who's super successful and someone who's not is that the amount of belief that someone has in themselves to try over and over and over again, right? Like I do believe that to be true.

• 17:08Speaker 00

  I don't know if that's true.

• 17:09Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 17:09Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 17:10Jen Cohen?

I believe it. Like if I

• 17:11Speaker 00

  I think it's

• 17:12Jen Cohen?

Okay. Luck for sure. Don't get me wrong.

• 17:15Speaker 00

For sure. But I think there's another factor.

• 17:17Jen Cohen?

  Okay, what's the other factor?

• 17:19Speaker 00

I agree with you. I didn't have that confidence.

• 17:22Jen Cohen?

But, but listen, you had enough confidence to at least recognize cybersecurity.

• 17:29Speaker 00

No, I had, ye- ye- yes, I had something

• 17:33Jen Cohen?

  Else?

• 17:34Speaker 00

Else. Pain. So there's two things, I think. I think there are people that are just born and develop an incredible amount of confidence. That's Mark.

• 17:45Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 17:46Speaker 00

Power to him. That wasn't me. Like at nineteen, twenty, I, I mean, I couldn't get a date when I was in my teens. I was deathly afraid to talk to girls. I was afraid of my own shadow. Like I, I, I was consumed by fear of everything. The trigger point for me was the pain of my life. Like I was just living in such a Shitty way that I just said, I don't want to live like this.

• 18:14Jen Cohen?

Give me an example of what was shitty besides lack of money.

• 18:17Speaker 00

Being bullied, not having anything, my parents were poor. I hate to admit it, I was really embarrassed about my, you know, my dad's a blue collar guy. You know, and I wasn't mature enough to be proud of him. I was embarrassed of him.

• 18:31Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 18:31Speaker 00

You know, like my friends would come over, my dad's in his Eastern European, you know, Russian balaclava. And I'm like, oh my God, I'm such a loser. But I remember so clearly thinking, I gotta get out of this cycle. Like, I gotta break this poverty.

• 18:46Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 18:46Speaker 00

Poor thing. And I wanted to buy a house. And I remember calculating how much capital you need to buy a house. And I realized, working at a $50,000 job, I was never gonna accumulate capital. And so I said, I gotta change. And that was it. Like, I, I saw the future as clearly as tomorrow. And I knew the path I was on was never gonna get me there.

• 19:17Jen Cohen?

So what was that first step? Because I think if people listen to this or get inspired by this, if they're in that situation, that's kind of like that, it's really hard to go, like, it's always about people you're surround, like, also, a lot of opportunities are from who you surround yourself with, right? It's easy to elevate when you have a lot of like very wealthy, successful people around you to like tell you about opportunities. What if you're not in that situation?

• 19:41Speaker 00

Well, you raise a great point. First thing is, I was in the pity me club.

• 19:48Jen Cohen?

  Okay, yeah.

• 19:49Speaker 00

I hung out with everybody else who complained around the world. So I complained and I realized, oh my gosh, all my friends are complainers. Why am I hanging out with these people?

• 19:59Jen Cohen?

  Right, right.

• 20:00Speaker 00

And what did we talk about? We talked about how life had done us wrong. So you've got to change that. Anything you think. Subconsciously feed your soul. No one is more powerful than their subconscious. And I realized that I was programming my subconscious for failure. Cause I was complaining, I was calling myself a loser, like all those things. Step one was, I gotta get rid of that.

• 20:29Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 20:29Speaker 00

Thing. So for me, I started saying yes to uncomfortable things. So when I was at work and somebody had to do a presentation, I would be like, I want to be on the team, but no, I don't want to present. I started saying yes to stuff. And once you fail, you fail less the second time. And I realized after like four or five really embarrassing horrible things, it's not that bad. And the sun comes up tomorrow and as long as I'm getting better, the path will always be there. And so just, you know, that one percent every day.

• 21:08Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 21:09Speaker 00

Every time. And slowly over time, I just got that confidence to where my confidence was greater than my fear.

• 21:17Jen Cohen?

Right. So you just, you practice, you practice confidence.

• 21:21Speaker 00

  You practice failure.

• 21:22Jen Cohen?

Yeah. And you practice, and that's, well, you can, you get to confidence by get to with, I think also following through on things that you say you're going to do. There's all these things you can do to become more confident with. And you got comfortable with failing where it kind of didn't bother you as much, where eventually you became confident.

• 21:40Speaker 00

And I think that's part of it because I think the greatest thing we learn in life to control is ourselves.

• 21:47Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 21:48Speaker 00

I mean, in every way. And so that was the journey and I think I'm still on that journey. But then there's a really quick pivot where you realize, hey, if I am way down on the totem pole of privilege.

• 22:03Speaker 00

  Like I'm way down.

• 22:05Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 22:05Speaker 00

Everybody around me has more and some of them had it given to them. Some people are smarter than me. Some people are better looking like.

• 22:14Jen Cohen?

  All the things.

• 22:15Speaker 00

All those things. And I said, none of that matters. I just gotta work harder. And so it's not just about building your confidence. It's actually putting in the work.

• 22:25Jen Cohen?

  Putting in the work.

• 22:26Speaker 00

Right, like there, there's no gain without that level of pain.

• 22:29Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 22:30Speaker 00

So I worked more than anybody else. I recovered faster than anybody else. I was willing to try things.

• 22:39Jen Cohen?

  More than anybody.

• 22:39Speaker 00

More than anybody else. When I was in my twenties, I left a job where I was making 400,000 a year, which was, you know, in your twenties way back then.

• 22:49Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 22:50Speaker 00

  An extraordinary amount of money.

• 22:52Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 22:53Speaker 00

I left that to start a business where I made nothing. And it didn't matter to me.

• 22:58Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 22:59Speaker 00

Do you know what I mean?

• 22:59Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 23:00Speaker 00

Like I got so confident with myself that I got to a point where I was like, yeah, I'll make that one day again.

• 23:07Jen Cohen?

Great, because you believed in yourself.

• 23:08Speaker 00

I believed in myself, but a few years before that.

• 23:11Jen Cohen?

  You didn't.

• 23:12Speaker 00

Oh my, if I would have been making that kind of money in my early twenties, I would have never started a business.

• 23:17Jen Cohen?

Absolutely, because it's a trap. That's like, that's the trap. But you like, so the cybersecurity, like, but I heard you mentioned before a couple of things that it wasn't even so much about the cybersecurity. What you, what you really honed is sales. Sales was like a very, that's really kind of, that to me is like the, your superpower, right? You learned how to be a really good salesperson.

• 23:41Speaker 00

Adapted, so great point. So I, I fell into cyber because my roommate, I moved out when I was 17. So my roommate.

• 23:51Jen Cohen?

Where did you live in Toronto, by the way, at 17?

• 23:52Speaker 00

Oh, right down by St. Lawrence Market.

• 23:55Jen Cohen?

Oh, my God, I really, yes, yes, yes.

• 23:56Speaker 00

  In, in government housing.

• 23:58Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 23:59Speaker 00

And the way I got into government housing is you could get into government housing. If you did something for the community. So I was always very good at accounting and math. So I used to do books for this government housing.

• 24:11Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 24:11Speaker 00

Thing. And my roommate had the first masters in computer science from University of Toronto.

• 24:19Jen Cohen?

  Hmm.

• 24:20Speaker 00

And he had applied for a computer science job. He didn't get it. Long story, but I ended up getting the job. I asked him, can I apply? Blah, blah, blah. So I fell into cyber. What I realized very quickly, though, was everybody around me that I competed with, that's the one thing I think I was born with, adaptability.

• 24:41Jen Cohen?

Yeah. Oh, that's a very important skill, too.

• 24:44Speaker 00

Throw me and Damon on the show, and I talk about this all the time. We're like, if you threw me in the middle of a jungle, I have a high degree of confidence I would survive.

• 24:55Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 24:56Speaker 00

And Damon and I have this conversation because we're adaptable.

• 24:58Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, he's also adaptable?

• 25:00Speaker 00

Extremely adaptable, extremely adaptable. So I fall into cybersecurity.

• 25:06Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 25:07Speaker 00

And my adaptability looks around and says, everybody is smarter than me on cyber. Everybody is an engineer. Everybody has a degree in computer science.

• 25:20Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 25:20Speaker 00

I can't compete head to head on technical knowledge right now.

• 25:27Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 25:28Speaker 00

What can I compete with? What are my competitors not great at that I can become great at quickly? And I realized, social skills, sales.

• 25:40Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 25:41Speaker 00

They sucked at it. They didn't think, not only they suck at it, but they thought it wasn't important. They thought people bought technology for the sake of technology.

• 25:50Jen Cohen?

  For the product.

• 25:51Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 25:51Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 25:51Speaker 00

Oh, we have a great product. People are buy this. I thought, what if I could tell people the value of the product? So I leaned into sales and that's how I like got into sales.

• 26:02Jen Cohen?

So how do you get someone to say yes in a sales, in a, in a sales call or a sales meeting? What's the number one thing to do?

• 26:09Speaker 00

Before I can teach you to sell, before I can sell you something, I need to find out who I'm selling to and what your need is. Great salespeople sell value.

• 26:22Speaker 00

Bad salespeople sell a product. But part of selling value is to understand your need. So if you ever go on a sales meeting with me, the first half hour is a million questions. It is the art of asking questions without you feeling like I'm asking you a ton of questions.

• 26:41Jen Cohen?

  Exactly.

• 26:42Speaker 00

You know, like I'll walk out of a meeting and the, my sales reps at my companies would say, oh, my gosh, you asked that person like a thousand questions. But if you ask the client, they would say, no, I don't, I, no, I was, yeah.

• 26:56Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 26:57Speaker 00

Really understanding the need. Cause sometimes my product doesn't fit. Sometimes it does fit. If I have a product fit and a product need, I can position the value for you.

• 27:10Jen Cohen?

So you're, so I believe, can you, can you, how do you teach that? Like you're innately good at being curious. I'm curious too. So that's why I can pick up on it.

• 27:18Speaker 00

I'm so curious. I drive my wife nuts. We'll meet somebody and I'll ask them, oh, you do this? How does that work? Oh my gosh, that's so, and she's like, will you stop?

• 27:28Jen Cohen?

I totally, I, I, I felt, I feel that because you walk in here like, I want to see your gym. Tell me what this is, what is this, what is that? But like, I like it because it's, I like that energy because I'm like that too. And that's how you, how you connect to people. Like you ask questions, you, that's how you learn and connect. And that's why opportunities happen.

• 27:47Speaker 00

Don't you also feel like we have such an incredible life? It is such a privilege. One of my really good friends is a priest and he has a great saying, which is there's two ways to lead your life. As though everything is a miracle or nothing is a miracle. Like I wake up every day and I think, I mean, I get to hang out with you today. And then I get to drive to my amazing house that I was able to buy with, that I created from like,

• 28:16Jen Cohen?

  Nothing.

• 28:17Speaker 00

How great is my life? Like it, I'm just so. Grateful for it. And I'm so, I think curiosity also comes from your ability to be grateful and blessed and feeling like you're blessed.

• 28:28Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 28:29Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 28:30Jen Cohen?

I mean, I think could be, I think people could be curious and not feel so grateful, but I think that the combination is a killer combination.

• 28:37Speaker 00

  Oh, I do too.

• 28:38Jen Cohen?

Right? That's why I said earlier, I'm like, you and I have a lot of similarities because I do a whole thing on, I did a whole talk on curiosity because you know, someone always, someone asked me like, how do you teach curiosity? Like if someone is not that curious, right? How do you instill in someone the importance of being curious for their, for their like life success?

• 28:59Speaker 00

  And what did you say?

• 29:00Jen Cohen?

Well, I said that I, I believe that people are either innately more curious than others, but I think if you're a two on the curiosity level, you can make it to a five or a six.

• 29:09Speaker 00

Yeah. How do you do that?

• 29:10Jen Cohen?

And I think that you can, you, I think you start practicing. I think with anything in life that you want to get better at, you need to practice it.

• 29:17Speaker 00

  Oh, couldn't agree more.

• 29:19Jen Cohen?

Right? Doesn't matter what it is, if it's Spanish, if it's the gym, if it's being curious, being likable, anything.

• 29:26Speaker 00

What I'm doing now with my seven year olds is I'm trying to instill curiosity.

• 29:32Jen Cohen?

  Yep.

• 29:32Speaker 00

So we'll drive down the street.

• 29:33Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 29:34Speaker 00

And they'll say, oh, I want to go to McDonald's. And I'll say, do you know McDonald's is a business? Like someone started that.

• 29:40Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 29:40Speaker 00

And they're like, what do you mean? And like, well, someone created it. And I said, you see those yellow logos? Like, why is it yellow? And they'll start thinking about it. They're like, why is it yellow? I said, I don't know, let's look it up.

• 29:53Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 29:54Speaker 00

Like that somebody, I said, do you realize there's people who have businesses that do nothing but look at color and how it affects brands? And my kids are like, what? And I'm like, yeah, you can have a job where your only job is understanding the effect of color on brand. And my kids are like, wow, this is so cool. But I think it's the ability to ask questions.

• 30:18Jen Cohen?

It is the ability to ask questions, but the question is, so what you're doing with your kids is really smart, right? Because you're, you're kind of like feeding them information where they would be like, well, why, well, why, why? Like it's, you are like, you're priming their brain for curiosity.

• 30:34Speaker 00

I am. I'm also. You know, kids are hard.

• 30:38Jen Cohen?

  Yes.

• 30:38Speaker 00

As you know, and my general belief is leading by example.

• 30:45Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 30:46Speaker 00

  So.

• 30:47Jen Cohen?

  See, you and I.

• 30:48Speaker 00

Like, they see me work out and you think, hopefully, some of that.

• 30:55Jen Cohen?

  Rub off on them.

• 30:56Speaker 00

Rubs off on them. I had the best day of my year yesterday. I have to tell you about this.

• 31:03Jen Cohen?

  Okay, tell me.

• 31:04Speaker 00

So Kim, my wife, was on Dancing with Stars. She was a guest judge. I had a speech in Vegas. So I said to Hudson, who's seven, I said, do you want to go with me? He's like, sure. So he's never come to one of my speeches. And I'm a pretty good speaker. So we dress him up. He's got the little blue jacket like me. He's carrying my notebook. We're holding hands. It's the cutest thing. So we go there and he's meeting everybody. I mean, he's super cute. So everybody's really nice to him. So I said to him, you gotta hit, sit in the front row. And there was maybe 3,000 people in the audience. Wasn't like big, wasn't small. So he sat in the audience and listened to my speech. It was a fireside chat, 45 minutes.

• 31:47Speaker 00

Speech was over. I go backstage. Someone brings him and he comes up to me, grabs my arms. And he says, Daddy, I'm so proud of you. I mean, I was like, oh, my God.

• 32:01Jen Cohen?

  Do you start to cry?

• 32:02Speaker 00

I had tears in my eyes. I mean, it was like unprompted, like nothing. I was like, it wasn't even like, hey, what'd you think? Cause you know how you are after a speech. You gotta get out of there. So I was like, okay, let's go. And he just stopped, like we were all hectic. He just stopped, grabbed my arms and said, so proud of you. So you, I love that positive. So now I think I'm super parent.

• 32:23Jen Cohen?

You are a super. Well, first of all, that is the, I think, saying that the word proud is such a nice word. And it's like underrated. If someone says, I'm very proud of you.

• 32:32Speaker 00

  I love that word.

• 32:33Jen Cohen?

That's a beautiful word from your child. Like, that's a really, really nice.

• 32:37Speaker 00

  We don't get a lot.

• 32:39Jen Cohen?

No, we don't. But that's a really nice. That's really nice, actually. So you're you're basically, okay, so you're you've got two seven, you've got two, obviously, two twins. Do you have kids from prior?

• 32:51Speaker 00

  I do.

• 32:52Jen Cohen?

Okay, how old are those kids?

• 32:53Speaker 00

  Old, like.

• 32:55Jen Cohen?

  Like a hundred?

• 32:55Speaker 00

Yeah, like in their twenties and thirties.

• 32:58Jen Cohen?

Do they still live in Canada?

• 32:59Speaker 00

They do. Well, Canada, New York, and Vancouver, Toronto, Vancouver.

• 33:04Jen Cohen?

So you have three kids. You have five altogether. Wow, you've got a lot of kids.

• 33:09Speaker 00

You know, well, kids get to different stages. Once you get to an adult stage.

• 33:16Jen Cohen?

  Well, this is my question.

• 33:17Speaker 00

  You're you're you're out there.

• 33:19Jen Cohen?

It's a different world. But what I was going to ask you is like, you told me a little bit, but you didn't grow up this way, but your kids have now grown up privileged and they are definitely becoming, especially the seven year olds, and I'm sure, obviously, the other three. How do you instill in a child who had who doesn't have to be scrappy and have grit when their life is pretty comfortable? How do you instill those values now?

• 33:44Speaker 00

It's a great question. I didn't think about that. I have a, one of my really good friends has a 22 year old son, and his son just got very ill and is worried about his career. And so the dad is sitting down with the son, who's got to take some time out of his career because he's very ill.

• 34:06Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 34:06Speaker 00

And he's worried, you know, like a 22 year old, I'm going to fall behind. My career is not going

• 34:12Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 34:12Speaker 00

happen. My friends are going to like accelerate ahead of me. Very driven family. And the parents are very, very wealthy. And the dad said something, which I think is so powerful. He said to his son, he said, "The greatest privilege of our wealth is that you don't have to worry about making a living in your later years. Most people work to survive."

• 34:43Speaker 00

Most people have to work and worry about what they're going to do in retirement, how they're going to live. Our wealth has given you that privilege that you don't. So don't worry about the in-between. Don't worry about falling behind a little bit. Do something that you're deeply passionate about. Do something that you want to be great at. And don't worry about time. Because we've given you that cushion for later on in life. So I think when you think about it that way, it gives you a certain amount of freedom to do things and take risks when you're young.

• 35:26Jen Cohen?

That you otherwise wouldn't be able to do.

• 35:28Speaker 00

That you worry about career, taking a job you may not like, all those things.

• 35:33Jen Cohen?

But you give them bound, like restrictions, like for an example, that's a great story if the person had a lot of money. But if someone doesn't have, or they have a lot of money, but like, is what is that saying that from this, that you're going to give your child?

• 35:49Speaker 00

  Well, your question was.

• 35:50Jen Cohen?

  Flexibility and freedom.

• 35:51Speaker 00

Your question was, what am I teaching the kids of privilege? Number one, I'm teaching them, you've got, first of all, you're privileged. Like that's, there's no denying that.

• 36:02Jen Cohen?

So you're like, kind of like calling it what it is. Exactly.

• 36:04Speaker 00

And I have these crazy friends who are like, oh no, we, we teach our kids hardship. Like we would never fly first class, all of us, you know? My wife and I fly first class and the kids fly economy. And I'm like, that is such bullshit because you're flying to your $40 million ski house in Aspen. What do you, do you think they get off the plane and go, oh my God, that was so hard. Let's go to our fort. Like it's, it's, you cannot hide who you are in life to your kids. Kids are too smart.

• 36:35Jen Cohen?

But also, it's also stupid. It doesn't even make sense. It's not even common sense. Like, you're right. That is a hundred, I've heard that so many times, right? They're putting the kids in the, in the, in coach, but they have like a hundred million dollar like chalet back in.

• 36:48Speaker 00

Right, or I'd never fly on a private jet as they pull up in their Ferrari. Like, and I'm like, God, does that make any sense?

• 36:55Jen Cohen?

  It doesn't.

• 36:56Speaker 00

So I think the first thing is you, you've got to recognize that you're, you are what you are in life.

• 37:02Jen Cohen?

Yeah, that's a hundred percent true.

• 37:04Speaker 00

The greatest lies in life we tell are the ones we tell ourselves.

• 37:09Jen Cohen?

  100%.

• 37:10Speaker 00

So when I was young, I used to think I was what I wasn't. And one day I just had to say, I'm nothing. I'm good at these things, but I have a very long way to go and no one is coming to rescue me.

• 37:28Jen Cohen?

No, you're actually very impressive because you really are somebody who had literally nothing and built it on your own. Nobody gave you anything. A lot of times when you really kind of peel back that little onion of people who've gotten to the place where you are, they had some like family money that kind of like helped them a little bit. There was always something. That's why I think I respect you so much. Like that's why to me, you being a shark, by the way, is really a great choice.

• 38:00Speaker 00

I think all the sharks are like that.

• 38:02Jen Cohen?

They, a lot of them, I mean, I don't know the background of every shark, to be honest.

• 38:06Speaker 00

That's why, that's why I think the show works because.

• 38:11Jen Cohen?

  Oh, interesting.

• 38:12Speaker 00

When the show first started, you won't know this, but Mark Burnett was hired as the producer.

• 38:17Jen Cohen?

Yeah, I did know that. I totally don't play.

• 38:19Speaker 00

ABC owns the show for distribution. Sony owns the show. They hire Mark Burnett to produce it, blah, blah. ABC puts huge pressure on Mark Burnett to have celebrities.

• 38:34Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 38:34Speaker 00

Yeah. So I would, Gene Simmons was going to be me. I don't know if I'm allowed to say that, but it's 18 years, nobody carries.

• 38:45Jen Cohen?

Who was the other ones that were supposed to be on?

• 38:47Speaker 00

A bunch of really famous people.

• 38:49Jen Cohen?

Do you know the other ones?

• 38:50Speaker 00

Uh, there was talk of Magic Johnson being on the show, people like that. Because ABC felt, I mean, think about it. Now Shark Tank is Shark Tank, but 18 years ago, it was a business show with business people talking about business.

• 39:07Jen Cohen?

  Well.

• 39:08Speaker 00

Do you know, I went to the, I went to the Emmy Awards in our second season and people were like, oh, what show are you on? I'm like Shark Tank. And people would say, oh my gosh, I love Shark Week on Discovery.

• 39:19Jen Cohen?

  Oh, really?

• 39:20Speaker 00

  Yeah, people did.

• 39:21Jen Cohen?

  Didn't know.

• 39:22Speaker 00

ABC was worried that the concept wouldn't work. And so they thought, you know, let's get a bunch of celebrities and to Mark Burnett's credit.

• 39:30Jen Cohen?

  He didn't.

• 39:31Speaker 00

He said, no, we need real business people, not that Jean and.

• 39:38Jen Cohen?

  No, no, no.

• 39:38Speaker 00

You know, magic art, but we need real business people who made their name in business. That's the only way it will work.

• 39:46Jen Cohen?

And it became a juggernaut. So this is what I was saying to you earlier. I didn't finish what I was going to tell you, but at the time that Clay Newville guy was the executive producer.

• 39:54Speaker 00

  Still is.

• 39:54Jen Cohen?

Still is. I think it was the first season or second season and I had these shoes called these NGR shoes, which were these weighted shoes. Okay. That were competing with all those other Tony shoes at the time. You know, those other like M B T ones that like.

• 40:09Speaker 00

  Right.

• 40:10Jen Cohen?

Imbalance. And I was selling a shit ton of these shoes on my own. I got money factored and I'm a Canadian. So I was like, really like, I sold like a hundred thousand pair of shoes on my own. Crazy. And they were all over the press. I was giving them to all the celebrities and the whole premise of it was like, okay, you have these shoes. So if you have weights in your shoes, it's going to, and they're evenly distributed. You could take that insole in and out. It wouldn't put pressure on your knees or your hips because of the weight is on the heels. Right? So he found out about it, called me up and said, Hey, you know, do you want to be on Shark Tank?

• 40:43Speaker 00

You mean as a pitcher or as a shark?

• 40:45Jen Cohen?

As a pitcher, like come and talk. He wanted me to pitch my shoes to the sharks. And I was like, oh my God, that's so exciting. I was like, I was a kid. I was so young. I was like young twenties. Okay. I was like, oh my God, this is so exciting. And it came down to the, the, the, the last little thing. And because I was Canadian.

• 41:04Speaker 00

  You couldn't do it.

• 41:05Jen Cohen?

  I couldn't. They wouldn't let me do it because I needed a special E visa that I didn't have.

• 41:10Speaker 00

  Right.

• 41:11Jen Cohen?

And all the legal stuff was too difficult. So I couldn't go on the show. And I was, it was, I was so upset about that whole experience.

• 41:20Speaker 00

  So.

• 41:21Jen Cohen?

Oh, and also 1% perpetuity for any, even if I don't make it, if I.

• 41:25Speaker 00

Yeah, we got rid of that.

• 41:26Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 41:27Speaker 00

  Thanks to Mark. Big thing.

• 41:28Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 41:29Speaker 00

  That was Cuban.

• 41:30Jen Cohen?

  That was Cuban?

• 41:31Speaker 00

Yeah. When Cuban came on as a permanent shark, that's the first thing. He got us all together and he said, guys, we are never going to have real businesses. It's bullshit. Like, who's gonna sign up 1%? And that 1% was whether you aired or not.

• 41:46Jen Cohen?

Whether you aired or not, that's what I'm saying.

• 41:47Speaker 00

  I was like nuts.

• 41:48Jen Cohen?

So my business partner, who was not that much older than I was, like, he was 28, I think, at the time or something, he's like, I don't want to do this show because I don't want to give up 1%.

• 41:57Speaker 00

  Why would you?

• 41:58Jen Cohen?

Like, and we had this whole thing. I'm like, please, it'd be so great. But most businesses that, so I was like down that whole rabbit hole. We're like, fuck that. I'm not gonna give up 1% if I'm on the, if I'm not even airing, why would I do that? That's so stupid.

• 42:11Speaker 00

They got rid of that, I think, season three.

• 42:14Jen Cohen?

Can you say hi to Clay for me? I wonder if he remembers me from like 18 years ago. That would be hilarious.

• 42:20Speaker 00

  He's a great guy. He's a great guy.

• 42:20Jen Cohen?

He was so nice. I really liked him.

• 42:23Speaker 00

But in fairness, in Hollywood, everyone's nice to you.

• 42:27Jen Cohen?

  That's.

• 42:27Speaker 00

There's no meeting that does start with, you're great.

• 42:30Jen Cohen?

Yeah, that's true. A bunch of bullshit. I've learned, I've learned my, my lessons over the years.

• 42:35Speaker 00

The Visa story, so Kevin and I started on the show in Canada.

• 42:40Jen Cohen?

Yes, Dragons Den. It wasn't the same people, though, was it? Like, was it just licensed?

• 42:44Speaker 00

  It was Jim Triliving.

• 42:46Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 42:46Speaker 00

It was Canadians you would know.

• 42:48Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 42:49Speaker 00

  But nobody else would know.

• 42:50Jen Cohen?

  Nobody would know. Yeah.

• 42:51Speaker 00

So Kevin and I did it. And funny story, you won't know. So I had this high-tech business, selling to enterprise, very serious, suit and tie. I'm a very serious guy.

• 43:03Jen Cohen?

  Person. Yeah.

• 43:04Speaker 00

And I get on Dragons Den and it starts to become a bit of a hit. But you know Canadians don't care about celebrity.

• 43:11Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, they don't. Yeah.

• 43:12Speaker 00

So I'm competing against IBM and I started hearing that IBM is going around telling customers, oh, Robert's great. His company's great, but he's gone to Hollywood. He's on a TV show. And I hear this and it offends me. And I'm like, what are they saying? I'm not a real business guy. Screw them. So I. So I quit the show.

• 43:34Jen Cohen?

  You did?

• 43:34Speaker 00

I'm sitting down with Kevin and I'm like, I don't need this celebrity bullshit. I'm a real, serious business guy. I'm gonna quit. So Kevin says, let me take you out for dinner. So I tell him the story, tell him why. True story. And Kevin and I are really good friends. He looks at me and he says, you're a fucking idiot. You have no idea how huge this show is gonna be and what it can do for your brand. And because it'll lift your brand, it'll lift your business. And I looked at him and he was so like, and you know, Kevin is like, you're a fucking idiot. Like, it wasn't like, can I tell you something?

• 44:12Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, he wasn't polite.

• 44:13Speaker 00

Yeah. He was so confident and adamant about it. It scared me to the point that, what if he's right? And I didn't quit.

• 44:23Jen Cohen?

  You didn't quit?

• 44:24Speaker 00

It become this. So then I'm skiing in Alberta and I get a phone call from Mark Burnett. And I'm like, hello? And he says, hi, this is Mark Burnett. I'm thinking, oh, it's bullshit. It's not Mark Burnett. Says, we're filming Shark Tank. And I say, what's Shark Tank? Says, we're, it's the American version of the show. It's gonna be huge, blah, blah. We really want you to do it. I'm like, wow, this is great. Can you be here by tomorrow at five? And I didn't have a visa to work in the States. And so I say, oh, my gosh, I'm gonna be a huge celebrity in the States. Yes, I'm coming.

• 45:08Speaker 00

I hang up, get a call from him an hour later and he says, hey, I just found out you're Canadian. Can you get a visa? So I call a lawyer. I can't, I call Mark and I say, I'm sorry, I can't do the show. I can't get a visa, but like to work. Mark says, leave it with me. He got me a visa in two hours.

• 45:25Jen Cohen?

  He did?

• 45:25Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 45:26Jen Cohen?

I wonder if he used Ralph Aaron Price. Do you know?

• 45:28Speaker 00

No, no, he got me like an O1 visa in like two hours. And I flew to LA, found out that I'd already started filming with Kevin.

• 45:40Speaker 00

They thought the dynamic was challenging. It's a hard show to film. People always think it's so easy, but it's hard.

• 45:48Jen Cohen?

  It looks hard.

• 45:49Speaker 00

And you know, Kevin is so dominating and the other folks were brand new at it. They were watching, Clay was watching the Canadian version with Kevin and I. And he said, we have to get that guy. So I got on it because somebody didn't work out in the last minute.

• 46:07Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 46:08Speaker 00

Yeah. And that's how I got on Shark Tank.

• 46:10Jen Cohen?

I guess Gene Simmons was busy, actually. I'm just kidding.

• 46:12Speaker 00

  Nah.

• 46:12Jen Cohen?

So you, so would you say that Kevin would be your favorite shark? Like, who is your favorite shark? Don't worry, no one will.

• 46:19Speaker 00

No, I, I, you know, it's really true. I love all the sharks.

• 46:22Jen Cohen?

You love every single one of them?

• 46:24Speaker 00

I love every one of them. Like, I have the world of respect for every one of them. I will say, in the 18 years we've been doing it, whenever I've had a hard thing happen to me in my life, the first person that's reached out is Mark.

• 46:44Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 46:44Speaker 00

Yeah. Like, first person to send me an email, or he never calls. Like, the guy just doesn't talk on his phone.

• 46:52Jen Cohen?

But he does email. He's the fastest person to email, though. I can tell you that.

• 46:55Speaker 00

  I understand it. I understand.

• 46:56Jen Cohen?

  It's unbelievable.

• 46:57Speaker 00

Like, I get, I know how busy I am. You know how busy you are. If I emailed him right now, he'd get back to me in 10 minutes. Like, I don't get it.

• 47:04Jen Cohen?

Do you want to hear the most crazy story? I was on my treadmill. I emailed Mark. I'm like, hey, you know, when we met, like, we met at some, like, I don't know, TED Talk type, not that, but something similar, like, some conference, like, whatever. And he's like, I want to come on your show and blah, blah, blah. I emailed him, like, a month later. I'm like, hey, by the way, you know, we talked about this, blah, blah, blah. Um, I'd really love to schedule you to come on the podcast. He's like, I'll be there tomorrow. I'm like, okay.

• 47:32Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 47:32Jen Cohen?

He's like, what time? I'm like, uh, I don't know, eleven? Remember? I'm like, 11? He's like, great, give me your address. I'll see you then.

• 47:39Speaker 00

  He's a great guy.

• 47:40Jen Cohen?

Within five minutes. He emailed me in five minutes.

• 47:43Speaker 00

But you know, Damon is a great guy. Barbara has, I think, like, I, my priest friend also has another great saying, which is, you'll never find anything in life as fascinating as another human being.

• 47:59Jen Cohen?

  That's so true, though.

• 48:01Speaker 00

It's so true. Everybody has a story. Everybody has layers. And so every one of the sharks has an amazing story. Like Barbara's story, Damon, Kevin, everybody.

• 48:12Jen Cohen?

See, how many people come up to you and say you're their favorite shark, though?

• 48:16Speaker 00

A lot, but I always take it with a

• 48:19Jen Cohen?

But I'll tell you something, you really

• 48:20Speaker 00

People come up to me and they say, you're my favorite shark. They say to me, you're the good looking one. You're the sporty one. You're this. And I always say to them, it's a very low bar.

• 48:34Jen Cohen?

I will say that, and I'm not just saying this because you're sitting here, but I feel like you are like the fan favorite. People love Mark Cuban. I'm not going to lie. Like, I mean, Mark is actually great on this. Like, because he's so savvy in how he even responds to people.

• 48:48Speaker 00

  Great on the show.

• 48:49Jen Cohen?

He's amazing. Besides Mark, though, like you are the one that people want to do the deals with, I feel. You're the one that's most heartfelt. People like you the most. Like, even when I said that you're coming on the podcast or whatever, so many people are like, oh, he's my, literally like, oh, he's my favorite. Like, oh, I love that guy.

• 49:06Speaker 00

Thank you. And, you know, it's, I'm so

• 49:09Jen Cohen?

Watch me never get the rest of the people on my show now that I said that.

• 49:12Speaker 00

I'm so grateful for it. Like, I was just somewhere, and it goes in waves, right? Like, depends on what you're wearing and where you are out. But for whatever reason, I was in Newport and we just got mobbed with people.

• 49:25Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 49:26Speaker 00

Mobbed. I was wearing a jacket and a shirt. So it's, you know, it's kind of like, if you're wearing a T-shirt and walking quickly.

• 49:33Jen Cohen?

  People don't notice.

• 49:34Speaker 00

As much. And so anyway, I was being mobbed and I was trying to have a business meeting with this guy. And he said to me, oh, doesn't that bother you? And I said, absolutely not. Absolutely not, not in the least.

• 49:46Jen Cohen?

  You appreciate the fact that

• 49:47Speaker 00

I said, I remember being That person and how excited I would have been.

• 49:53Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 49:54Speaker 00

That somebody of any element of privilege or power would take the time to spend with me. Cause the moment may be transient to me.

• 50:05Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 50:06Speaker 00

But may be permanent to them.

• 50:07Jen Cohen?

  That's a hundred percent.

• 50:08Speaker 00

How many times in our life do we have a moment that means everything to us?

• 50:15Jen Cohen?

  Yep.

• 50:15Speaker 00

May not mean anything to that person.

• 50:18Jen Cohen?

  One hundred percent.

• 50:18Speaker 00

And so I always think that's a responsibility. But the great thing is, I think all the sharks are like that. Like, I think we're all so grateful for what the show's done for us.

• 50:26Jen Cohen?

You know what's interesting? Cause you're, I think you're a hundred percent right. Because whoever was mobbing you at that show, when they came up to you, they called their friends after and they were so excited to see you. They're like, oh my God, you won't believe who I just saw. Like, it made their day, their week, their month.

• 50:40Speaker 00

  You never know.

• 50:41Jen Cohen?

  You never know.

• 50:42Speaker 00

I, I was, oh, I gotta tell you the story, it was incredible. Uh, just last week, where was I? In Atlanta or somewhere. And this woman came up to me and we, we were chatting and blah, blah, blah. And she started to cry. And I was like, oh my gosh. And she goes, no, no, she goes, I just, I remembered when I first met you 10 years ago.

• 51:03Jen Cohen?

  Oh, wow.

• 51:04Speaker 00

I had, I had, um, just landed and I was walking through the airport. And I was at the airport for some reason, I don't know why. And I came up to you and you spent like 20 minutes with me.

• 51:20Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 51:20Speaker 00

I just started my business and I asked you all these questions and you were, she made candles or something. What I didn't tell you was my dad had just passed away. And I was coming back from the funeral and I was an absolute mess. And you spent 20 minutes with me and how much that meant to me. So you never know, you don't know. The pain someone is living.

• 51:46Jen Cohen?

  You don't.

• 51:47Speaker 00

If we have the opportunity to be nice to another human being, why wouldn't we?

• 51:52Jen Cohen?

I totally agree, and I love that you said that. I see how emotional you're getting because even when you were telling me that story, like what I came with is, you know, it's so people like you're in someone's home every day or every week or whatever. Like it may be like you probably have so much meaning in some of these people's lives that you literally made like they could have been like on the verge of whatever.

• 52:15Speaker 00

  You never know.

• 52:16Jen Cohen?

You never know. And because they saw you, you were kind to them. I bet you that like, like that tweaked somebody somewhere.

• 52:23Speaker 00

It's so funny, though, and you'll know this being Canadian.

• 52:26Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 52:27Speaker 00

The relationship to celebrity in America, it's different than anywhere else in the world.

• 52:33Jen Cohen?

  Totally different anywhere else.

• 52:35Speaker 00

  Totally.

• 52:36Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 52:36Speaker 00

Like, you know, in Canada, Dragons Den became one of the highest rated shows in Canadian history.

• 52:41Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 52:42Speaker 00

People would recognize me, but it would be rare that somebody would ask for a photo.

• 52:47Jen Cohen?

  Really? I'm sure.

• 52:48Speaker 00

Yeah. And I go to a restaurant and people would be like, oh, my gosh, we love the show. We love you. You're great. And I'd be like, yeah. And they'd be like, do you have a reservation?

• 52:58Jen Cohen?

  Right. They don't even care.

• 52:59Speaker 00

They don't care. They don't care.

• 53:08Jen Cohen?

• 56:34Speaker 00

I don't know anything about this stuff. Like the only, I take no supplements. I take nothing. I'm just going down this journey. The first thing I'm taking is creatine.

• 56:43Jen Cohen?

Okay, I have a whole bag of stuff for you.

• 56:45Speaker 00

  Nothing.

• 56:46Jen Cohen?

I have creatine in that bag. I'm gonna teach you everything. First of all, I cannot believe you don't know this stuff. Okay, this is Magic Mine. This is a healthy performance shot. So you know, a lot of people take all these like junky energy things.

• 56:58Speaker 00

I don't take any of that stuff.

• 56:59Jen Cohen?

Well, you don't, but a lot of people do. So this is, the ingredients are super clean. They're like, it's basically like.

• 57:05Speaker 00

  Sugar?

• 57:06Jen Cohen?

No, ashwagandha, there's turmeric, there's a little bit, the caffeine comes from green tea.

• 57:12Speaker 00

  I love caffeine.

• 57:13Jen Cohen?

Yeah, okay, me too, of course. It's like twinzies over here.

• 57:17Speaker 00

  But nothing unhealthy?

• 57:18Jen Cohen?

  No, this is why like.

• 57:19Speaker 00

  No calories, no?

• 57:21Jen Cohen?

I think there's like 30 calories in this. Can you take that? Is that gonna be okay? Can you just put them in your fit pal? Okay, wait, wait, wait. We're to cheers each other. That's how it works.

• 57:30Speaker 00

  Drink the whole thing?

• 57:30Jen Cohen?

Yes, and then you're gonna be really focused and super alert. So, here you go, cheers.

• 57:39Jen Cohen?

  It tastes good, too.

• 57:42Speaker 00

Yeah, it doesn't taste bad at all.

• 57:43Jen Cohen?

  No, they're really good.

• 57:44Speaker 00

  Oh, it's really good.

• 57:45Jen Cohen?

No, I'm telling you, they're like delicious. I wouldn't be like, I wouldn't be even like talking about them. You can get them at Era One, you can get them.

• 57:53Speaker 00

  I love Era One.

• 57:54Jen Cohen?

  You do?

• 57:55Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 57:55Jen Cohen?

  You don't like it?

• 57:56Speaker 00

  I love Era One.

• 57:57Jen Cohen?

Of course you do. I'm surprised you don't have a tent in the back over there, or like a little bunk, you know?

• 58:02Speaker 00

  I know, I should.

• 58:02Jen Cohen?

You should. I'm surprised you don't invest in it. They're delicious. They're really, really good. They're super clean and they're very good. Where else do they get sold? I think they get sold now at like maybe Whole Foods, but mostly online.

• 58:13Speaker 00

  What is this?

• 58:13Jen Cohen?

They're crushing it. Oh my God, you don't, these are all brands, by the way, that like, they never went on Shark Tank, but they should have. This is late. This is gonna sell for a couple billion. I'm not joking. They're like on a crazy trajectory. Hi Manny. Okay, so this is basically, do you like chocolate milk?

• 58:30Speaker 00

Yes, but I mean, for obvious reasons.

• 58:33Jen Cohen?

  I, yes.

• 58:34Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 58:35Jen Cohen?

So choc- this is basically, it tastes exactly like chocolate milk. It's a protein drink. There's only a hundred calories. There's like, how much, and this one has 20 grams of protein, one gram of sugar. It is like on a, it's, it's on a rocket ship.

• 58:48Speaker 00

  Is it for recovery?

• 58:49Jen Cohen?

No, it's just like a protein. It's basically drinking like chocolate milk, but it's a protein drink. So you can drink it before, post workout.

• 58:54Speaker 00

And what does the protein do for you?

• 58:56Jen Cohen?

Well, it helps, it helps building muscle mass, helps maintaining muscle mass. As we get older, Rob.

• 59:02Speaker 00

  Do we lose protein?

• 59:03Jen Cohen?

We lose muscle mass. So like, it's really important for people.

• 59:07Speaker 00

But can't I recover that by doing more weights?

• 59:10Jen Cohen?

You, so you should be doing a lot of strength training.

• 59:12Speaker 00

  Which I am.

• 59:13Jen Cohen?

Which you are. And you should be.

• 59:15Speaker 00

You're saying I should be supplementing that with protein?

• 59:17Jen Cohen?

You should be definitely sup- increasing your protein. And creatine is a great thing you should be doing for, well, obviously for recovery and of course for performance. It'll, it'll, it will give you a better workout, but also it will be great for your overall recovery. But the reason why people are now taking creatine as much as they are, and you're seeing all the like hype around it, is because it's the number one most researched supplement on the planet. And it's great for cognitive. So people as they get older are taking five grams, 10.

• 59:47Speaker 00

Well, that's why I read about it. It's, it's the cognitive part, right?

• 59:51Jen Cohen?

But be very careful with the supplements because I take something called Momentus. It's super clean. It's third-party tested. It's, it's, it's the most tested.

• 1:00:02Speaker 00

You take it instead of creatine?

• 1:00:03Jen Cohen?

No, it is creatine, but I'm saying that it's the creatine that I take. It's called Creapure.

• 1:00:07Speaker 00

  You're saying there's different kinds?

• 1:00:09Jen Cohen?

I will send you some. Yeah. It is, it's a very clean, clean creatine. That the way they make it, it's, it's, it's very, the, the standards are, I know the standards are so high.

• 1:00:25Speaker 00

So you're saying protein will help me maintain muscle mass?

• 1:00:29Jen Cohen?

Protein will maintain, will help you maintain also lifting heavy, also creatine.

• 1:00:36Jen Cohen?

Those are the three things that you can do.

• 1:00:38Speaker 00

Oh, my gosh, this tastes great.

• 1:00:39Jen Cohen?

  Delicious, right?

• 1:00:40Speaker 00

  It's delicious.

• 1:00:41Jen Cohen?

I mean, I'm telling you, they're on a rocket ship. Like, if they would have went on Shark Tank, you guys all would have been like, basically.

• 1:00:49Speaker 00

  How do they sell this?

• 1:00:50Jen Cohen?

Competing now everywhere. I mean, there are now 20,000 doors. They, you know, they're in 20,000 doors. They are selling everywhere. So what they did was, this was the starter, kind of the OG. Now they have a can that's bigger, that has more protein, more protein in it. But people love it because there's zero sugar or one gram of sugar. Plus, you get so much protein in this. It's really good.

• 1:01:19Speaker 00

  Is 20 grams a lot?

• 1:01:21Jen Cohen?

20 grams is a good amount. The other thing for your, when you're doing all of your, you know, your journey now with supplements, do you ever take Shilajit?

• 1:01:30Speaker 00

  Never even heard of it.

• 1:01:31Jen Cohen?

Oh, my gosh. There's a company, Shilajit. It's, I think it's, it's super clean also, and it's really good for you. It's great for your immune system, all these things. The company that I love is actually out of Australia. They are called Monovitality.

• 1:01:47Speaker 00

Oh, my gosh, you gotta send me that.

• 1:01:48Jen Cohen?

I'm gonna send you all, I have a whole thing for you. Because I, I knew that you were into fitness, so I was gonna like, give you all my favorite stuff.

• 1:01:54Speaker 00

I was always into fitness. But like I was telling you, like, I didn't think I could get fitter. Lies, right?

• 1:02:01Jen Cohen?

  Exactly. Well, you were wrong.

• 1:02:03Speaker 00

I was so wrong. Completely transformed my, my body, my muscle, my strength, everything. Four things for me.

• 1:02:11Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:02:12Speaker 00

One was cardio, but I loved cardio.

• 1:02:14Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:15Speaker 00

  But I only did cardio.

• 1:02:16Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:02:17Speaker 00

Never did weights, ever, until about a year.

• 1:02:20Jen Cohen?

How much cardio were you doing?

• 1:02:22Speaker 00

I was probably doing three, four miles a day, running. I always run, I run every day.

• 1:02:26Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:27Speaker 00

Now I run seven miles a day. So I've upped that.

• 1:02:30Jen Cohen?

  Seven miles every day?

• 1:02:32Speaker 00

  Every day.

• 1:02:33Jen Cohen?

Okay, how long does it take you to do seven miles?

• 1:02:35Speaker 00

Depends how I feel. It doesn't matter the speed.

• 1:02:38Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:02:39Speaker 00

  What matters is finishing.

• 1:02:40Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent, I agree.

• 1:02:41Speaker 00

The best runs are the ones where I don't feel like it.

• 1:02:45Jen Cohen?

  Do you?

• 1:02:45Speaker 00

I've had runs where I get up there and I'm like, I'm not running today. And then there's this little voice in my head that says, you know, first I go through a lot of excuses. It's raining, I don't feel like it, I'm sore. But eventually, I get to this point, and this voice in my head says, are you a fucking loser?

• 1:03:04Speaker 00

And when that voice comes in, oh, I could be bleeding with a broken bone.

• 1:03:11Jen Cohen?

  You're going.

• 1:03:12Speaker 00

I'm gonna finish. So it depends on the time.

• 1:03:13Jen Cohen?

  Good for you.

• 1:03:14Speaker 00

Like, a really fast run for me would be eight-minute miles.

• 1:03:18Jen Cohen?

  Oh, that's good.

• 1:03:19Speaker 00

  That would be really good.

• 1:03:20Jen Cohen?

  That's fast.

• 1:03:20Speaker 00

A slow run would be like 10-minute miles.

• 1:03:23Jen Cohen?

  Okay, but are you

• 1:03:24Speaker 00

  So it varies.

• 1:03:24Jen Cohen?

  Are you always running outside?

• 1:03:26Speaker 00

  No.

• 1:03:26Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:03:27Speaker 00

No, sometimes I'm running the tread and I watch something on TV.

• 1:03:30Jen Cohen?

  Are you

• 1:03:30Speaker 00

  Just get bored with it.

• 1:03:31Jen Cohen?

  The thing that

• 1:03:32Speaker 00

  So cardio.

• 1:03:33Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:03:34Speaker 00

And then I started doing weights. I never did weights. And then I went to this trainer, Chief Bradon in Australia, who's incredible, completely transformed. But the other two, which I also kind of focused on, was eating, eating the right stuff.

• 1:03:49Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:03:50Speaker 00

So now I also do fasting, which has really helped me maintain.

• 1:03:54Jen Cohen?

What kind of fasting are you doing?

• 1:03:56Speaker 00

I eat a meal on Sunday at dinner, and then I don't eat again until Tuesday at lunch.

• 1:04:04Jen Cohen?

  Oh, interesting.

• 1:04:06Speaker 00

  Every week.

• 1:04:07Jen Cohen?

  Every week?

• 1:04:07Speaker 00

Every week. And then I think about the next day. So if we were having lunch today, I won't eat dinner tonight. Or if we were having dinner, I never have breakfast. If we were having dinner, I wouldn't eat lunch. So just try to balance it.

• 1:04:20Jen Cohen?

So you really have two meals a day?

• 1:04:22Speaker 00

  At most.

• 1:04:23Jen Cohen?

  At most?

• 1:04:23Speaker 00

Yeah. And then the last one, which has made the biggest difference, is sleep.

• 1:04:29Jen Cohen?

  Sleep's a big one.

• 1:04:30Speaker 00

I never slept before. I used to be that guy that was like, oh, I'll sleep when I'm dead. I only need three, four hours. And I probably did when I had nothing and had to build the business. But now, to work at this level, I need seven, eight hours sleep. Like, I, I just can't. Like, I ran like a maniac this morning. I ran up Runyon.

• 1:04:49Jen Cohen?

  I can't believe it.

• 1:04:50Speaker 00

And then I ran another seven miles. Like, it was great. But I got seven hours of sleep. I couldn't have done that.

• 1:04:57Jen Cohen?

So wait, what type? So I want to, I want to get into your whole routine, but hold on, I want to just make, say something about your fasting. Have you ever tried something called ProLon?

• 1:05:06Speaker 00

  Never heard of it.

• 1:05:07Jen Cohen?

You never heard of ProLon either?

• 1:05:09Speaker 00

  No.

• 1:05:09Jen Cohen?

So a lot, this is another one of the most, most science-backed diet. It's basically it's fast mimicking. Do you know what that is? A fast mimicking diet? Okay, it's a five-day program and you are eating on it, but very minimal. You're having like olives, you're having some crackers.

• 1:05:25Speaker 00

What is it? Like a drug?

• 1:05:27Jen Cohen?

No, it's like a, they give you like this five-day kit. I have one. I'm going to give one to you if you want to try it. It's a five-day kit. So it's, it's all what, all your stuff, one day, day one, day two, day three.

• 1:05:40Speaker 00

Oh, I think my wife took it.

• 1:05:42Jen Cohen?

  I'm sure she did.

• 1:05:43Speaker 00

She goes through phases where she really wants to drop extra weight for a show.

• 1:05:46Jen Cohen?

  And she'll do it.

• 1:05:47Speaker 00

  ProLon.

• 1:05:48Jen Cohen?

  ProLon.

• 1:05:48Speaker 00

It comes in a white box.

• 1:05:50Jen Cohen?

  A white box?

• 1:05:51Speaker 00

  Kim's done it.

• 1:05:52Jen Cohen?

  Did she like it?

• 1:05:52Speaker 00

  It worked.

• 1:05:53Jen Cohen?

It does work because you know what it does? It takes out all the synthetic, what are they called? The synthetic cells in your body, but the longevity benefit. So.

• 1:06:02Speaker 00

  Is it better than fasting?

• 1:06:03Jen Cohen?

People say, I mean, listen, it was basically created by this guy named Dr. Longo. And it was, it's down to such a precise science of how they put it together where people have had

• 1:06:16Speaker 00

  Oh, I gotta try it.

• 1:06:16Jen Cohen?

incredible results. And people do it quarterly. So they do it once every like three or four months to kind of, and the cognitive benefits are like off the chain. So a lot of doctors prescribe it to like their patients. A lot of like biohackers do it for that like longevity thing. Try it. I'll give you one.

• 1:06:34Speaker 00

  I will try it.

• 1:06:34Jen Cohen?

You have a plane? You can fit the box on your thing?

• 1:06:37Speaker 00

Really about, I've read a lot about aging. Obviously, everybody wants to live longer.

• 1:06:42Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:43Speaker 00

Well, everyone wants to live healthier.

• 1:06:44Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:06:45Speaker 00

  And it's calorie deficit.

• 1:06:48Jen Cohen?

  I agree.

• 1:06:48Speaker 00

Like there's so much research on calorie deficit for aging. So I'm really focused on that. I'm really focused now on trying to get to a lower body fat percentage.

• 1:07:00Jen Cohen?

  Lower than you are now?

• 1:07:02Speaker 00

  Lower than I am now.

• 1:07:02Jen Cohen?

  Stop. You're so skinny.

• 1:07:04Speaker 00

So. Hard to go from like thirteen percent to like nine.

• 1:07:10Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:11Speaker 00

Because it's just, you know, it's hard because I think we go out, you have social.

• 1:07:15Jen Cohen?

Social, like, that's the thing, like.

• 1:07:18Speaker 00

Like, if I'm on my own, when I travel for business on my own.

• 1:07:21Jen Cohen?

  You're fine.

• 1:07:22Speaker 00

I'm fine. I never feel any pressure to have a drink or eat extra.

• 1:07:28Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:29Speaker 00

But, you know, when I'm out with friends.

• 1:07:31Jen Cohen?

I totally agree. It's really, it's like, and also when you're down to this, like, this level, to fine tune like two pounds, that one percent is.

• 1:07:40Speaker 00

  It's hard.

• 1:07:41Jen Cohen?

It's hard as an understatement. It's easy when you have a lot of weight to lose or when you're like not as dialed in. But when you're dialed in to get that last three pounds, four pounds, it's impossible.

• 1:07:53Speaker 00

  So for me.

• 1:07:54Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:54Speaker 00

I want to be healthy and live long.

• 1:07:56Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:57Speaker 00

  Like, that's number one.

• 1:07:58Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:59Speaker 00

Number two for me is the seven year olds.

• 1:08:03Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, of course.

• 1:08:05Speaker 00

When we moved back to Canada, uh, this never happened to me in L.A. So we lived in L.A. for a long time. We moved to Canada. I'm at a playground and this woman comes up and says, "Oh, my gosh, your grandkids are so cute." I lost my fucking mind.

• 1:08:25Jen Cohen?

  What did you do?

• 1:08:26Speaker 00

Well, what do you do? You say, "Thank you," and, you know.

• 1:08:29Jen Cohen?

  But in your head.

• 1:08:30Speaker 00

Such a nice guy. In my mind, I'm going batshit crazy. My greatest fear is to embarrass my kids.

• 1:08:39Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 1:08:40Speaker 00

My greatest fear is that I'm gonna, like, so Hudson's seven. And what would be like, you have a thirteen year old, right?

• 1:08:49Jen Cohen?

  Twelve, almost thirteen.

• 1:08:50Speaker 00

They're really cognizant at that age, probably twelve, thirteen, fourteen, right?

• 1:08:56Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:56Speaker 00

So I'll be, what, I'm sixty-three now, and he'll, another six years, I'll be close to seventy. My biggest fear is I pick him up from school and his friends say, "Hey, grandpa came to get you." So I am. Absolutely determined to cheat time and stay as young as possible and be the fittest person in that room for them.

• 1:09:26Jen Cohen?

  That

• 1:09:26Speaker 00

  That drives me.

• 1:09:28Jen Cohen?

  I totally

• 1:09:28Speaker 00

I don't know if that's vanity or arrogance or a combination of all of that.

• 1:09:33Jen Cohen?

  By the way, who cares?

• 1:09:34Speaker 00

  Yeah, who cares?

• 1:09:34Jen Cohen?

I agree with you 100%. I also, I'm going to give you also Tru Niagen, which is N A D. Have you heard of that?

• 1:09:41Speaker 00

  No.

• 1:09:41Jen Cohen?

Oh, my gosh. Where are you under a rock? You're working out like a fiend. You have all these trainers.

• 1:09:47Speaker 00

  I've heard of N A D.

• 1:09:48Jen Cohen?

But Tru Niagen is the one, it's N R, not, you've got to make sure you're taking the right.

• 1:09:52Speaker 00

How do you know all this?

• 1:09:54Jen Cohen?

This is my life, my whole life. I'm like obsessed and passionate about all of this. And I've researched everything and I speak to anything that I find to be interesting out of curiosity. I go down that crazy rabbit hole and I talk to the best experts in the world. I like talk to the best doctors in the world. And because I'm like curious and also skeptical, I get everyone's opinion. I, I, I try it. I'm a guinea pig. I also believe most things are, are bullshit. So I literally have dialed in like, and I have people here every day, sitting on every day, whenever I do this podcast, telling me about like their cocktail of things that work and da, da, da. Most things, 90% of things are, are nonsense.

• 1:10:39Jen Cohen?

I think there's, there's 10% of things that actually do move the needle, but you have to be super consistent and the fundamentals have to be in place, which is what you eat, moving your body like a lot. I think you've got to move your body a lot, not just, I'm not a believer in, I just do 20 minutes a day. You need to be doing more.

• 1:11:01Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:11:01Jen Cohen?

And multiple times a day. I'd rather you take a two hour workout and break it up into like five pieces during the day than just work out once.

• 1:11:10Speaker 00

Right? I'm always like work, working on those like. You can do more.

• 1:11:15Jen Cohen?

  You could do more.

• 1:11:16Speaker 00

You could, we can all do more.

• 1:11:17Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 1:11:18Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:11:18Jen Cohen?

Because the number one key to not aging or to living your healthiest, longest life, you can be taking every supplement in the world. But if you're not exercising and you're not moving your body multiple times a day, you're not going to get there. I really believe that.

• 1:11:33Speaker 00

There's always another level. Don't you think? Like, you can always do more.

• 1:11:37Jen Cohen?

You can always just push it just a little bit more.

• 1:11:39Speaker 00

I was going through this phase where I was like really working out. And I had dinner with Goggins.

• 1:11:45Jen Cohen?

Yeah. Oh, my gosh, how was that? He's a nut.

• 1:11:48Speaker 00

Unbelievable. I have the world of respect for him. But I walked, I mean, it was like a four hour dinner. Like, you know, he's so fascinating.

• 1:11:57Jen Cohen?

  He's fascinating.

• 1:11:58Speaker 00

Fascinating. But I walked out there, I'm like, I'm such a loser.

• 1:12:03Speaker 00

I'm not doing anything. But the point is,

• 1:12:05Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:06Speaker 00

  you can do more.

• 1:12:08Jen Cohen?

You could, but he's a psychopath.

• 1:12:11Speaker 00

  He is a psychopath.

• 1:12:12Jen Cohen?

  He's a psychopath.

• 1:12:13Speaker 00

It doesn't amaze you? Like, you look at, what nationality are your parents?

• 1:12:17Jen Cohen?

  Jewish.

• 1:12:17Speaker 00

  But from where?

• 1:12:18Jen Cohen?

Oh, from, my mom's from, my mom's Israeli. And my dad.

• 1:12:22Speaker 00

  Was she born in Israel?

• 1:12:23Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:24Speaker 00

So I was born in like Eastern Europe, Croatia, Yugoslavia. I ask you because like in that world,

• 1:12:32Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:33Speaker 00

  people didn't exercise.

• 1:12:34Jen Cohen?

  No, they didn't, no.

• 1:12:35Speaker 00

Like, when I was my, I'm now older than my parents before they passed.

• 1:12:42Jen Cohen?

  Oh, wow, yeah.

• 1:12:43Speaker 00

And they passed from cancer a long time ago.

• 1:12:45Jen Cohen?

  Both of them did, yeah.

• 1:12:47Speaker 00

But when they were in their 50s, they were old.

• 1:12:52Jen Cohen?

  Yes.

• 1:12:52Speaker 00

Like, they were old. Like, I don't know if my dad was here, if he was here in his 50s, he would say he was old. But he looked old, he moved old, he, oh, I need a rest.

• 1:13:05Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:06Speaker 00

Like, I will not, like, I have friends who nap. And I'm like, are you kidding me?

• 1:13:11Jen Cohen?

See, I can't with those people. I know.

• 1:13:13Speaker 00

  Like, I can't either.

• 1:13:14Jen Cohen?

I can't even, I cannot with these people are taking these day naps. And by the way, it's a super popular trend right now.

• 1:13:20Speaker 00

  What is napping?

• 1:13:21Jen Cohen?

Sleep doctors are saying, yeah, and I have all these friends who are like, yeah, like, napping is a really good thing. Who is napping in the middle of the day? Who is time?

• 1:13:29Speaker 00

But don't you think people today?

• 1:13:31Jen Cohen?

Yes, 100%. Well, have you ever seen those memes with the Golden Girls? How the Golden Girls look like they're like 150? And like you see these people now, like people, I think like 50 is like the new 30 or whatever that is, like 30 is the new 50 or whatever that thing is. People like, by the way, looking at you, you just said you're 63 years old. I almost like fell off the chair. Your face is like, you could pass for like 20 years younger.

• 1:13:57Speaker 00

I love you so much right now.

• 1:13:58Jen Cohen?

No, it's true. Like, that's why when that, that, that woman said that about your kids, like, I don't think you, you look great.

• 1:14:05Speaker 00

Oh, thank you. I think I look great, but.

• 1:14:08Jen Cohen?

What are you doing for your face? Have you gotten a facelift? Be honest.

• 1:14:11Speaker 00

No, I haven't. And I'll tell you what I am doing.

• 1:14:13Jen Cohen?

  Okay, what are you doing?

• 1:14:15Speaker 00

22 years ago, when I got on TV for the first time.

• 1:14:19Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:14:20Speaker 00

I mean, I naturally have great skin. My grandmother was 99 when she passed, not a single wrinkle.

• 1:14:26Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:27Speaker 00

Incredible. So I get on TV 22 years and the makeup artist says to me, oh my gosh, you have amazing skin. Do you use moisturizer? And I'm like, for what? She goes, oh, if you put a little moisturizer on every day, you'll always look like this. I use moisturizer twice a day, every single day.

• 1:14:48Jen Cohen?

That's it? That's your big, that's your big secret?

• 1:14:50Speaker 00

  Every single day.

• 1:14:50Jen Cohen?

  Which kind of moisturizer?

• 1:14:51Speaker 00

Like when I tell you, every single day, I mean, like, there are days where I'll forget to brush my teeth. I will not forget to put moisturizer. That's how strong my vanity is.

• 1:15:00Jen Cohen?

I love it though. It works. What do you, what kind of moisturizer is it though?

• 1:15:03Speaker 00

I also learned that I switched the type of moisturizer over a few months.

• 1:15:07Jen Cohen?

So your body needs to get activated?

• 1:15:09Speaker 00

Right, so I try a stronger one, a weaker one.

• 1:15:11Jen Cohen?

Okay, which one are you using now?

• 1:15:13Speaker 00

I forget what it's called. My makeup artist, Jerlyn, got it for me. It comes in this tube. It's amazing.

• 1:15:19Jen Cohen?

Do you know what you would like? I'm like telling you, Young Goose is another one that's really good.

• 1:15:23Speaker 00

  What is that?

• 1:15:24Jen Cohen?

It's another, it's like a beaut, they, I use their serum and I use their, they have like NAD in their stuff. They're, I don't know, I like it. I've been using it a lot. The other thing you should be using is a red light mask by Thera Sash.

• 1:15:36Speaker 00

  Kim just got one.

• 1:15:37Jen Cohen?

  By Therasage?

• 1:15:38Speaker 00

No, a red light mask. Does it work?

• 1:15:41Jen Cohen?

  I, I mean, listen, I, I think.

• 1:15:42Speaker 00

  I mean, in fairness, you're what, 28, 31?

• 1:15:45Jen Cohen?

I'm 29, actually. Thank you for, thank you very much for, for recognizing that, yes. Um, I think, I think it works because I'm doing everything else. So it's hard to know what everything is. But it's one of those things where there's a, there's enough stuff saying that like it helps to find lines and wrinkles. And I'm going to do it anyway because it's very, it's not invasive. So I wear it for like 20 minutes a day and I wear the Therasage one.

• 1:16:08Speaker 00

  It's a big trend.

• 1:16:08Jen Cohen?

  It's a huge trend.

• 1:16:09Speaker 00

Kim loves it. She's for it.

• 1:16:11Jen Cohen?

She does? Which one is she using?

• 1:16:13Speaker 00

  I don't know.

• 1:16:13Jen Cohen?

I'll give you one to give to her that I have an extra one.

• 1:16:15Speaker 00

  She loves it.

• 1:16:16Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:16:16Speaker 00

She just got one. One of her friends is selling it.

• 1:16:19Jen Cohen?

  Which one is it?

• 1:16:20Speaker 00

  Out of Australia or something.

• 1:16:21Jen Cohen?

How old is Kim? She's not 64.

• 1:16:24Speaker 00

  No, are you kidding?

• 1:16:25Jen Cohen?

Well, no, I thought that was.

• 1:16:26Speaker 00

  She's like 25.

• 1:16:28Jen Cohen?

No, no, I was gonna say she's 28 too, isn't she? Like 28, 29? Yeah. No, how, she's like in her 40s?

• 1:16:33Speaker 00

No, no, she's gonna be 50 next year.

• 1:16:35Jen Cohen?

  Oh, she is? Okay.

• 1:16:36Speaker 00

  She's 49. She looks amazing.

• 1:16:38Jen Cohen?

She, I haven't seen her since the Babes for Boobs. I told you.

• 1:16:41Speaker 00

She was on Dancing with the Stars yesterday.

• 1:16:43Jen Cohen?

  I know, but she's as a judge.

• 1:16:44Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:16:44Jen Cohen?

Who is the new host of that show?

• 1:16:46Speaker 00

Alfonso, who is amazing, and Julianne Hough.

• 1:16:50Jen Cohen?

Oh, those are the, that show is still on the air for crying out loud.

• 1:16:55Speaker 00

34th, it, last week's show, you're gonna die when you hear this, last week's show had more viewership than the next three networks combined. They doubled their ratings over a year ago. They've had 50 million votes.

• 1:17:11Jen Cohen?

  Are you serious?

• 1:17:12Speaker 00

  It's on fire.

• 1:17:13Jen Cohen?

  Why do you think?

• 1:17:14Speaker 00

Everybody in TV is talking about Dancing with the Stars because nobody understands. Everybody has a theory.

• 1:17:20Jen Cohen?

  Okay, what's the theory?

• 1:17:22Speaker 00

They've really leaned into social media.

• 1:17:24Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:25Speaker 00

And they've attracted a brand new audience. I was running in Newport on the boardwalk and, you know, these young girls came up to me and they were like running, like, oh, love Shark Tank, blah, blah, blah. All they wanted to talk about was Dancing with the Stars because they follow me on Instagram. They knew Kim was gonna be on it.

• 1:17:42Jen Cohen?

  Are you serious?

• 1:17:43Speaker 00

That's all they wanted to talk about. They wanted to talk about Shark Tank or business. And they're all business students. They just wanted, the show is on fire. It's incredible.

• 1:17:52Jen Cohen?

Well, first of all, dancing is hotter than ever. Number one. Number two, Alex Earl was on recently.

• 1:17:57Speaker 00

  She's still on it.

• 1:17:59Jen Cohen?

I thought she got, I don't know. That other one, Hilaria, was on the show too.

• 1:18:03Speaker 00

  She got voted off.

• 1:18:03Jen Cohen?

She got voted off, thank God.

• 1:18:05Speaker 00

  Alex is on it.

• 1:18:06Jen Cohen?

Alex is on it. So how far, how far is she like down the road? Like how many more people do they have to like?

• 1:18:12Speaker 00

I think they're in week four, so they have a long way to go.

• 1:18:15Jen Cohen?

  They do.

• 1:18:15Speaker 00

Yeah. She was, did you watch last night's show?

• 1:18:18Jen Cohen?

  I don't watch Dancing with.

• 1:18:19Speaker 00

  Alex? Was her name Alex?

• 1:18:21Jen Cohen?

  Alex Earl, is that? Yeah.

• 1:18:23Speaker 00

  Her dance?

• 1:18:24Jen Cohen?

  Amazing.

• 1:18:25Speaker 00

She did with her stepsister. Unbelievable. Like, un, watch it on streaming. It's on Hulu and Disney.

• 1:18:31Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:18:32Speaker 00

Yeah, it's, it'll blow your mind.

• 1:18:34Jen Cohen?

  So I think.

• 1:18:35Speaker 00

Like, when I was on it.

• 1:18:36Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:37Speaker 00

The quality of dance, that's another thing that's changed.

• 1:18:39Jen Cohen?

  Oh, yes.

• 1:18:40Speaker 00

They used to have lots of emotional stories. They always had a patsy like me.

• 1:18:43Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:45Speaker 00

The quality of dancing this year is, it's like watching a Broadway show every week. It's unbelievable.

• 1:18:51Jen Cohen?

So right, so they elevated the, the, the quality of dancing. They took out some of the emotional stories, the juggernauts?

• 1:18:58Speaker 00

  Still have that.

• 1:18:59Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:18:59Speaker 00

  But they've upped.

• 1:19:01Jen Cohen?

  The dancing.

• 1:19:02Speaker 00

Dancing. They've upped the host. They changed the hosts.

• 1:19:06Jen Cohen?

  Who was it before?

• 1:19:07Speaker 00

  Tyra Banks.

• 1:19:09Jen Cohen?

Tyra Banks was a host of the show?

• 1:19:10Speaker 00

  Yeah, for two years.

• 1:19:11Jen Cohen?

  Are you serious?

• 1:19:12Speaker 00

She wasn't a dancer. And she's great, but she wasn't a dancer. And she kind of made it more about her as a host. I don't mean that in a mean way.

• 1:19:23Jen Cohen?

  No, it's probably true, yeah.

• 1:19:24Speaker 00

She was such a powerful, overwhelming host.

• 1:19:28Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:29Speaker 00

That the focus was on her hosting, whereas I think Alfonso is an amazing host and he knows that. He won the show.

• 1:19:35Jen Cohen?

Yeah, he was a good, don't you remember when he was on like, uh, Different Strokes and he would do his little dance?

• 1:19:40Speaker 00

  Carlton.

• 1:19:40Jen Cohen?

Carlton. And also Friends, that's what I meant, not Different Strokes, but.

• 1:19:43Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:19:44Jen Cohen?

I mean, I feel like that show also brings on people who have like some type of presence that they, then they get their audience too.

• 1:19:52Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:19:52Jen Cohen?

  And they're constantly doing that.

• 1:19:54Speaker 00

So they've leaned into social media, like the Mormon Wives, two of the women from that are on it.

• 1:19:59Jen Cohen?

  Okay, that's why.

• 1:20:00Speaker 00

Have you ever seen that show?

• 1:20:01Jen Cohen?

  Never. Have you?

• 1:20:03Speaker 00

Started watching it with Kim and I don't get it. It's huge.

• 1:20:08Jen Cohen?

  Huge.

• 1:20:09Speaker 00

  Huge.

• 1:20:10Jen Cohen?

But I'm not, are you into reality TV? I don't have the patience, to be honest.

• 1:20:14Speaker 00

I don't have the patience for any TV, but I, I appreciate and respect people that can create a brand today.

• 1:20:20Jen Cohen?

  Oh, a hundred percent.

• 1:20:22Speaker 00

The Kardashians, you know, we, we got to know Kris Jenner because she used to live in our old area.

• 1:20:28Jen Cohen?

  Oh, yeah, right.

• 1:20:29Speaker 00

I have the world of respect for her.

• 1:20:30Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 1:20:31Speaker 00

And that whole family, like it's anybody who can create, you know, hard is to create a brand.

• 1:20:35Jen Cohen?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 1:20:36Speaker 00

There's so much noise today. If you can stand out today, power to you.

• 1:20:41Jen Cohen?

But guess what? People didn't rec, people didn't know this and now they, I think they figured it out, but the work ethic that these people have, the Kardashians have, they work 24/7. And that mother is a juggernaut, like that woman is, is constantly.

• 1:20:56Speaker 00

  Chris is brilliant.

• 1:20:56Jen Cohen?

Brilliant. And, and they're, they keep on like bringing out a new version, like everyone's having a kid and then the, then the.

• 1:21:02Speaker 00

Who, who do you know that's ultra successful that doesn't have an insane work ethic?

• 1:21:07Jen Cohen?

  No, that's what I'm saying.

• 1:21:08Speaker 00

  Do you know anybody?

• 1:21:09Jen Cohen?

No, other than people who were handed something and then they kind of just kind of kept it going.

• 1:21:14Speaker 00

  Doesn't count.

• 1:21:15Jen Cohen?

  It doesn't count.

• 1:21:16Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:21:16Jen Cohen?

You have, and I think there's something to be said for the fact that you have to have an obsession with it. You have to be, your work ethic has to be so on point that if that combined with all these other things, that's when you really kind of.

• 1:21:29Speaker 00

Somebody asked me one time, if you wouldn't have sold your company for hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars and still had it, would you be happy? And I said, I'm so fucking.

• 1:21:40Jen Cohen?

  You would be?

• 1:21:41Speaker 00

Yeah, I loved my company. I mean, I didn't have to worry about paying bills. I was well off. I wasn't ultra wealthy, but I would have been happy. I love my business. I loved my business.

• 1:21:53Jen Cohen?

How much did you sell the other business for?

• 1:21:56Speaker 00

We sold the one, sold the first business for 265,000.

• 1:21:59Jen Cohen?

Oh, no, that was the first business?

• 1:22:01Speaker 00

First business sold for 265,000. And I took that money and paid off my mortgage.

• 1:22:06Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:22:07Speaker 00

  Typical immigrant thing.

• 1:22:09Jen Cohen?

  Exactly, very, very responsible.

• 1:22:11Speaker 00

If I wouldn't have done that, I would have never started the second business.

• 1:22:14Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 1:22:15Speaker 00

  Because I fear.

• 1:22:17Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:17Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:22:17Jen Cohen?

  Fear.

• 1:22:18Speaker 00

I paid off my mortgage in my early twenties and I'm like, oh my gosh, I've, I've won at life.

• 1:22:22Jen Cohen?

  Yes.

• 1:22:23Speaker 00

Like, it's never good. When I sold that business for 265,000, I went home, paid off my mortgage and I had this moment of elation, thinking, I've done it. And then I had this moment of depression, thinking it will never be better than this in life. I will never make more money than I've made this year.

• 1:22:43Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 1:22:43Speaker 00

  That's how limited my.

• 1:22:44Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, your limiting belief was.

• 1:22:46Speaker 00

Then we sold the next one for 34, I think it was, or 36, I forget. And then the next one, we end up selling for 500 million.

• 1:22:56Jen Cohen?

  Oh, that's it.

• 1:22:57Speaker 00

I didn't found that one. I was running, running it for someone. And then the last one is about a billion because it's still active and I still own a big chunk of it, but I sold my portion of it for.

• 1:23:11Jen Cohen?

So are you a billionaire or not?

• 1:23:13Speaker 00

I'm not in America. I am in Australia, which we always joke.

• 1:23:17Jen Cohen?

  Yes, that's hilarious.

• 1:23:26Jen Cohen?

• 1:24:53Jen Cohen?

So let me ask you this, from the companies on Shark Tank, how many have you actually invested? How many companies have you actually invested in? And then which one has actually done the best?

• 1:25:04Speaker 00

So we've probably invested and currently have about 42.

• 1:25:11Jen Cohen?

  Oh, okay.

• 1:25:12Speaker 00

And because some go away, some come, some get sold. The best one is probably for me Tipsy Elves or a company called Sand Cloud.

• 1:25:27Jen Cohen?

And how, how well are they doing and what are they?

• 1:25:30Speaker 00

So Tipsy Elves is inappropriate ugly Christmas sweaters.

• 1:25:33Jen Cohen?

I remember that one. That was, you invested in that one? And how is that doing?

• 1:25:37Speaker 00

They'll do over a hundred million this year. It's incredible. And the Sand Cloud guys make these beach towels like from Turkey. They make these beautiful beach towels. It's not just, and they'll do like 80 million this year. It's not just so much about their success. It's that they're such lean businesses. Like these people have no retail presence, very little inventory, and it's three guys selling online.

• 1:26:03Jen Cohen?

And so how much of those each do you own?

• 1:26:06Speaker 00

  I forget, like.

• 1:26:07Jen Cohen?

  It's like irrelevant.

• 1:26:08Speaker 00

  Yeah, like a little bit.

• 1:26:10Jen Cohen?

And are you actually involved in these businesses? Like what, how, what do you do for them?

• 1:26:14Speaker 00

That's the biggest challenge for the show.

• 1:26:16Jen Cohen?

  Okay, tell me.

• 1:26:17Speaker 00

When we had five businesses, we were very involved.

• 1:26:22Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:26:22Speaker 00

  Right?

• 1:26:23Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:26:24Speaker 00

And when I had time, I was really involved. Now that I've actually sold my business and stepped away from it, I just, I don't wanna be that involved.

• 1:26:34Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:26:35Speaker 00

That's the hard thing. And so I'm going through this thing where I feel guilty because it's not that they need money. If they just need.

• 1:26:45Jen Cohen?

  Money's easy.

• 1:26:46Speaker 00

Very few businesses fail or succeed because of lack of capital. I mean, you know that. If you have a great business and you get more money, you're gonna do better. If you have a bad business and you get more money, it's not gonna change anything.

• 1:26:58Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:26:59Speaker 00

And so a lot of these businesses need guidance and we just, I, I just don't have that time.

• 1:27:04Jen Cohen?

So that's exact, I totally understand that. So it's like, if it's one thing, if it's just money, cause you could just write a check. But they actually need support in other ways.

• 1:27:12Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:27:12Jen Cohen?

And it's hard when you're being.

• 1:27:13Speaker 00

So that's why we, I like to invest, like we're, I'm investing in AI. Cuban and I just did a deal with an AI company out of Australia.

• 1:27:22Jen Cohen?

From Shark Tank or outside of it?

• 1:27:23Speaker 00

  No, no, no, outside, like.

• 1:27:24Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:25Speaker 00

  Real businesses.

• 1:27:26Jen Cohen?

How much of Shark Tank, like how many of these things actually end up falling through? Cause like, you know, you can make a deal on.

• 1:27:31Speaker 00

  Fifty percent.

• 1:27:32Jen Cohen?

Fifty percent. Is it based on just like bad financials or what?

• 1:27:35Speaker 00

  It's changed.

• 1:27:36Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:27:37Speaker 00

So at the beginning, fifty percent didn't close because we'd find out crap. Like in season two, I got, we asked a guy for his financials.

• 1:27:48Jen Cohen?

  Uh huh.

• 1:27:49Speaker 00

I'm not making this up. He sent us a box of receipts.

• 1:27:52Jen Cohen?

  No way.

• 1:27:53Speaker 00

Yeah. That doesn't happen anymore because there's a whole vetting process now. Now they don't close because people just wake up and they figured out the Shark Tank hack, which is, it's, it's a great show. You get so much brand presence. Do I really have to close?

• 1:28:12Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:28:12Speaker 00

So people become shortsighted. There's tremendous benefit to closing a deal with us. Cause you get the follow-ups, you get the ongoing stories and so on. But people look for that one time hit of being on the show.

• 1:28:25Jen Cohen?

Right. And so they, why, why would they even do it?

• 1:28:27Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:28:27Jen Cohen?

So Mark told me that he does the most deals of the show. Do you think that's true?

• 1:28:31Speaker 00

A hundred percent. And I used to do deals with Mark and what I've learned is there's, there's the good Mark. And then there's the, I have so much friggin' money, I don't have time to even think about it, Mark.

• 1:28:45Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:46Speaker 00

So a couple of deals we've done, when I look back, because he has an amazing team. They do all due diligence, everything.

• 1:28:52Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:53Speaker 00

We invested in a couple of things and I think we each put in like half a million dollars in this thing. And then a year later, I'm like, hey, this thing isn't that great. He's like, yeah, I probably shouldn't have done it. It's only half a million dollars. And, you know, like, half a million dollars is still half a million dollars.

• 1:29:12Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:13Speaker 00

Like, I could buy a really nice car with half a million dollars or do something else with it. To him, half a million dollars to Mark is, is probably like, I don't know, 10, 20,000 dollars to me.

• 1:29:25Jen Cohen?

I was gonna say, like, it's insignificant.

• 1:29:28Speaker 00

  Insignificant.

• 1:29:29Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:29Speaker 00

So, yeah, he does. Mark is the full embodiment of that show.

• 1:29:33Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:34Speaker 00

Like, he's invested millions in, in these businesses.

• 1:29:38Jen Cohen?

Who has not, like, who has not, who's been the least person to invest? Like, do you guys ever, like, talk about that?

• 1:29:45Speaker 00

  No.

• 1:29:45Jen Cohen?

  Does it matter?

• 1:29:46Speaker 00

I think Kevin does a lot of royalty deals.

• 1:29:49Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:49Speaker 00

Which are great in their own way, but no, I mean, you, you have to invest a certain amount.

• 1:29:54Jen Cohen?

Who is your favorite guest shark?

• 1:29:57Speaker 00

Who's my favorite guest shark? I mean, gosh, there's been so many. Jamie, founder of Ring.

• 1:30:05Jen Cohen?

  Oh, I love him.

• 1:30:07Speaker 00

  Jamie Simonoff.

• 1:30:07Jen Cohen?

And you gave him, you, you guys didn't even give him a deal.

• 1:30:10Speaker 00

  We didn't.

• 1:30:11Jen Cohen?

  That was so short sighted.

• 1:30:13Speaker 00

He's become a really good friend of mine.

• 1:30:15Jen Cohen?

  I love him.

• 1:30:16Speaker 00

And he has a ski place near my ski place. So we've become really good friends and he's just a great, great human being.

• 1:30:24Jen Cohen?

He's such a nice, I like him so much.

• 1:30:25Speaker 00

  Have you met him?

• 1:30:26Jen Cohen?

I have. He's also in YPO. Maybe he's not in it anymore. He was in a, with Chopper.

• 1:30:30Speaker 00

  He's back at Amazon now.

• 1:30:32Jen Cohen?

  He is?

• 1:30:32Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:30:32Jen Cohen?

  As what?

• 1:30:33Speaker 00

I think he runs their consumer division.

• 1:30:35Jen Cohen?

  No way.

• 1:30:36Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:30:37Jen Cohen?

  But I-

• 1:30:37Speaker 00

  He's brilliant.

• 1:30:38Jen Cohen?

  He's brilliant.

• 1:30:39Speaker 00

  Brilliant.

• 1:30:39Jen Cohen?

I remember when he didn't get a deal and I was like, you guys are so stupid. That guy is like amazing.

• 1:30:44Speaker 00

In fairness, it was called Doorbot. Stupid shitty name.

• 1:30:47Jen Cohen?

  It was?

• 1:30:47Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:30:48Jen Cohen?

  Oh, that's terrible.

• 1:30:49Speaker 00

I always say, if it was called Ring, I would have invested.

• 1:30:51Jen Cohen?

You would have invested in it? He's really smart and he also has a nice way about him. I liked his personality.

• 1:30:55Speaker 00

  He lives here in LA.

• 1:30:56Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, I know.

• 1:30:57Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:30:57Jen Cohen?

We have a lot of similar friends. That's why I'm saying, I know he's a nice guy and a good guy and all the things.

• 1:31:01Speaker 00

  Great guy.

• 1:31:02Jen Cohen?

But I was gonna, I'm surprised he went back to Amazon, like, but, but- Even though he sold the company for over a billion, I think he had a lot of investors. I don't know how much he actually made of the billion.

• 1:31:12Speaker 00

That's the other thing people don't realize. It's not always what you sell for.

• 1:31:16Jen Cohen?

  Yep.

• 1:31:17Speaker 00

It's what you get to keep.

• 1:31:18Jen Cohen?

  Exactly.

• 1:31:19Speaker 00

And a lot of these businesses raise a lot of equity. Every business I've sold, I owned a hundred percent of.

• 1:31:25Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:31:26Speaker 00

  Yeah, I've never raised.

• 1:31:29Jen Cohen?

  That much money.

• 1:31:30Speaker 00

I've never raised any money until I sold the last business. Well, I didn't raise it, I sold it, but I've never raised money. And I have lots of friends who sold for two billion, three billion.

• 1:31:42Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:43Speaker 00

But they owned like six percent or eight percent. So that's what I always say to people is don't get enamored by the top line. Get enamored by the bottom line.

• 1:31:55Jen Cohen?

That's a hundred percent true. How much time are you spending now doing the other stuff for your brand? Cause I've noticed you on social media way more. You're doing that, you do a lot of speaking, that's how I met you at this at the speaking thing for entrepreneur. What other projects are you doing and how much of your time is spent on like, like speaking and media and branding now?

• 1:32:16Speaker 00

Probably, that's another thing I did when I left my company.

• 1:32:20Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:32:21Speaker 00

  I leaned into working out.

• 1:32:23Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:23Speaker 00

And I leaned into social media, not knowing where it was gonna go.

• 1:32:28Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:32:28Speaker 00

You know, sometimes you gotta go down the road. You know, it's good to go down the road. I wanna go down the road. I don't know what's at the end of the road, but I know it's a good road to go down. And so we're really trying to understand the impact of social media.

• 1:32:43Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:44Speaker 00

And it's working. I mean, I have people that come up to me now and say, oh my gosh, I love your YouTube channel. And I'm like, oh, thanks for watching Shark Tank. They're like, I don't watch Shark Tank, I just.

• 1:32:53Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:32:53Speaker 00

Yeah. So it's, you know. The power of YouTube today and Instagram, I mean, all of that stuff is unbelievable. The reach and the direct communication with your consumer

• 1:33:07Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:08Speaker 00

is off the charts. So I'm not sure quite what we're going to do with it, but we're really working it.

• 1:33:14Jen Cohen?

Do you like, so how much time do you spend on it? And do you like, are you on there daily? Do you do it? Or you have someone else doing it?

• 1:33:20Speaker 00

  I don't do it.

• 1:33:21Jen Cohen?

Someone else is doing it for you?

• 1:33:23Speaker 00

When I did the Australian version of the show, there was a young guy on there. He's 26 years old. He had a product called the Udi, Think Blanket with Arms.

• 1:33:32Jen Cohen?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:33:33Speaker 00

He sold $600 million of this. So he says to me, if I had your brand, I would be a multi-billionaire. You should work with my social team. So I started working with his social team, this guy out of, gosh, I want to say Thailand. Then moved to Australia. He's got this little team. He's incredible, Charlie. And we, when I started with him, we had 700,000 followers across the different platforms. We're now at over like 6 million.

• 1:34:01Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:34:02Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:34:02Jen Cohen?

  What is he doing? Clips?

• 1:34:04Speaker 00

  Well, every format is different.

• 1:34:07Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:34:08Speaker 00

LinkedIn is different than TikTok, than everything. And so he does a really good job of doing all of that. I mean, he writes some scripts. I write some scripts, but he films it, puts it together, everything.

• 1:34:21Jen Cohen?

So how do you do, how do you do it? Are you, do you have like scheduled days a month? Like I'm doing three, you're doing three days of shooting and then they kind of.

• 1:34:28Speaker 00

  I used to.

• 1:34:29Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:30Speaker 00

  And then I realized it's a full-time job.

• 1:34:32Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:32Speaker 00

So for six months I did it. I do it like three times a day. I wake up, I'm like, okay, from nine to 10:30, I'm filming content.

• 1:34:38Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:39Speaker 00

12 to like, and then six months later, I'm like, okay, stop. This is.

• 1:34:43Jen Cohen?

Right. It takes over your life.

• 1:34:44Speaker 00

I don't want to do it that much. So I go through phases. I need to be more disciplined about it. But I need now, I need to know what's at the end of the road.

• 1:34:54Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:54Speaker 00

Now we've grown it enough, I need to see where it's going.

• 1:34:59Jen Cohen?

Well, how much longer are you going to be on Shark Tank? Like, is it just, is it like evergreen at this point? Like, are you, do you have a contract that's going to go until you're 102? Like, what's the plan?

• 1:35:08Speaker 00

I don't know, it's eighteen, seventeen years. They just moved our time to Wednesdays at ten.

• 1:35:14Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:35:15Speaker 00

  Great.

• 1:35:16Jen Cohen?

  Why do they do that?

• 1:35:18Speaker 00

They they feel that we can help the ratings on Wednesday because we're a draw.

• 1:35:22Jen Cohen?

  You are, yeah.

• 1:35:23Speaker 00

  Big show.

• 1:35:24Jen Cohen?

  People love that show.

• 1:35:25Speaker 00

I don't know, like, everything, everything comes to an end, like.

• 1:35:27Jen Cohen?

  I mean, it's been.

• 1:35:28Speaker 00

Like, how many shows have been on the, we've done, I think, four hundred, five hundred, six hundred episodes? I'm on TV three hours a day with the repeats.

• 1:35:36Jen Cohen?

  Oh, I try.

• 1:35:37Speaker 00

  CNBC.

• 1:35:38Jen Cohen?

When I'm traveling, you guys are on a marathon, like, all, the whole day.

• 1:35:41Speaker 00

When I do a speech, I always say to people.

• 1:35:43Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:35:43Speaker 00

Oh, thanks for watching Shark Tank. When you get back to your dorm, you'll see me on TV.

• 1:35:47Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 1:35:48Speaker 00

  It's true.

• 1:35:49Jen Cohen?

  No, no, I'm not joking.

• 1:35:50Speaker 00

Always laugh, and I'm like, it's true, you'll see me on TV.

• 1:35:52Jen Cohen?

It's a hundred percent true. I'm not, like, just two days ago, I was away and you were on for five hours.

• 1:35:57Speaker 00

I think I'll always be, as we all will, be the guy from Shark Tank. I think twenty, thirty years from now, when I die in some horrific motorcycle accident.

• 1:36:08Jen Cohen?

Don't say, you don't drive a motorcycle, do you?

• 1:36:10Speaker 00

I may not have a license, but I do ride a motorcycle, but.

• 1:36:13Jen Cohen?

Stop it. You love health and fitness.

• 1:36:15Speaker 00

Be the guy from Shark Tank.

• 1:36:16Jen Cohen?

  You will always be.

• 1:36:18Speaker 00

  Damon, Will, and Kevin.

• 1:36:20Jen Cohen?

Or, yeah, I mean, Kevin first, and Kevin's another one that you, it's, he's synonymous with Shark Tank.

• 1:36:27Speaker 00

  A hundred percent.

• 1:36:28Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:36:28Speaker 00

You know Kevin is doing a big movie now.

• 1:36:31Jen Cohen?

  Kevin is?

• 1:36:32Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:36:32Jen Cohen?

  Doing what?

• 1:36:33Speaker 00

He's a supporting actor in a big Hollywood feature comes out December twenty fifth. I forget what it's called, but it's with Timothy Chalamet. He plays Gwyneth Paltrow's husband.

• 1:36:45Jen Cohen?

  Kevin O'Leary?

• 1:36:46Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:36:47Jen Cohen?

  He's an actor?

• 1:36:48Speaker 00

  He's great in it.

• 1:36:49Jen Cohen?

  Stop it.

• 1:36:51Speaker 00

Couldn't be happier for him. Kevin loves being Kevin.

• 1:36:55Jen Cohen?

  Yes.

• 1:36:56Speaker 00

  Kevin loves the.

• 1:36:59Speaker 00

  Aura of all that.

• 1:37:02Jen Cohen?

Is he really that person though?

• 1:37:03Speaker 00

Yes, he's really that guy. All of us are that guy. All of us are what you see, that which is why the show works because we're horrible actors. Well, except Kevin, we'll see.

• 1:37:12Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, right. Exactly.

• 1:37:14Speaker 00

But it's his dream. I'm so happy for him. Like this is, this is the journey.

• 1:37:19Jen Cohen?

That's really funny. I've been seeing him on these commercials or like these ads. He's in Dubai doing some kind of clinic or something.

• 1:37:28Speaker 00

We never, the speeches, we never saw that. When I got in Dragon's Den in the second season, someone offered me a speaking gig and I was like, why would I go speak for somebody else? That's ridiculous.

• 1:37:41Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:42Speaker 00

And then they said, oh, they're going to pay you. I'm like, what? How much? And they're like $5,000. I'm like, are you kidding me? Someone's going to pay me?

• 1:37:53Jen Cohen?

  That is crazy.

• 1:37:55Speaker 00

Saw this business and in America, it's such a huge business.

• 1:38:01Jen Cohen?

  Well, you have a.

• 1:38:01Speaker 00

Like yesterday, I was speaking at the National Beer Distributors Association. Great group of people, multi-generational businesses, big businesses. All they do is distribute beer.

• 1:38:14Jen Cohen?

Was this the Vegas one you were telling me about the 3,000 people?

• 1:38:16Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:38:17Jen Cohen?

That's a lot of people for that kind of thing.

• 1:38:19Speaker 00

  It's huge.

• 1:38:19Jen Cohen?

Are they paying you a lot more than 5,000 now? I would imagine.

• 1:38:22Speaker 00

Yeah, they're paying us a lot more than 5,000.

• 1:38:24Jen Cohen?

But you do more than key. I know that you do these firesides. Do you do a keynote?

• 1:38:28Speaker 00

  I do.

• 1:38:29Jen Cohen?

You go, you do the keynotes?

• 1:38:31Speaker 00

Happy to do a keynote. I don't know what your experience is. We find is a fireside for a corporate event is better.

• 1:38:40Jen Cohen?

I personally think it's more engaging because it's interactive.

• 1:38:43Speaker 00

So I always say, get your CEO or your CRO or your CMO to do a fireside with me because it's closer and your people can see them in a different light. It's great.

• 1:38:55Jen Cohen?

I think you're right. I mean, people like keynotes. It's more, I think there has a much more of a cachet to it. Like, oh, this keynote, you can maybe charge more, they think, or that's what is happening. Firesides are easier for us, right? Because you can just be yourself. And people can ask you questions and you can just like kind of like,

• 1:39:11Speaker 00

  True.

• 1:39:12Jen Cohen?

  You know, babble.

• 1:39:13Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:39:13Jen Cohen?

Right. It's much easier. Like when I get, when I have to do a keynote, I get more anxious and nervous.

• 1:39:18Speaker 00

Do you do a lot of them?

• 1:39:19Jen Cohen?

Lately, I've been doing, I've done three TED Talks, which have,

• 1:39:22Speaker 00

  Wow.

• 1:39:22Jen Cohen?

A lot. Yeah. Like I told you, I just finished my last one. It's not even out yet, like a week ago. So they hasn't even come out yet on the fitness and stuff I was telling you about. My first one went crazy viral on asking, basically being bold and asking for what you want in life. That catapulted all my business stuff. So like that got me into like every sales room because it was about teaching people how to be bold and ask for what you want. And I created this whole thing called the 10% target, which is like getting comfortable with failure. I'm telling you, you and I have a lot in common. So that was like the first juggernaut with the TED Talks, which got me all this speaking stuff, like banks and investment, you know, private equity companies and any sales.

• 1:40:03Speaker 00

Do you have an agent? Like do you go?

• 1:40:04Jen Cohen?

  I have a bunch. Listen.

• 1:40:06Speaker 00

  I don't have an exclusive.

• 1:40:07Jen Cohen?

I'm going to tell you the truth about agents. Okay? I have not yet found one agent has, that has been helpful to, for me. Yeah. Like, most of the things I do myself, people usually, it's, it's kind of incoming. I have some random people who help me right here and there, not random, but people who help me. But I don't have any exclusive agent.

• 1:40:27Speaker 00

  Yeah, same.

• 1:40:27Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:40:28Speaker 00

  Same.

• 1:40:28Jen Cohen?

I was with a very big agency, which I'm sure you know, has three letters and um, many, many, many, many years ago. And um, my agent actually turned out to be someone who was an alcoholic, who was stealing from me and the agency didn't do anything about it. I had to sue the people who, like I had to like get my money myself. That gave me a really bad taste in my mouth. So I just kind of like ended up doing things myself and then having other people.

• 1:40:58Speaker 00

Most of our stuff is inbound.

• 1:40:59Jen Cohen?

  It's, it is inbound.

• 1:41:00Speaker 00

Because the show is so popular.

• 1:41:02Jen Cohen?

Well, you, I mean, also, you, you probably have so many like requests. It's a question of saying yes or no. Like, you don't need an agent. You, I mean.

• 1:41:12Speaker 00

  Right.

• 1:41:12Jen Cohen?

I, maybe you do to maybe get you other things, but you probably have a really.

• 1:41:17Speaker 00

Well, I'm, I'm also not starring in a movie with Gwyneth Paltrow. Let's be fair.

• 1:41:21Jen Cohen?

Do, does he have an agent who bought him that?

• 1:41:23Speaker 00

  Yes.

• 1:41:23Jen Cohen?

Do you want an agent? I can get you an agent. Are you sure?

• 1:41:26Speaker 00

I just don't want that. You know, I go through phases where I'm like, I'm sure you, ah, I should do more.

• 1:41:31Jen Cohen?

  I know.

• 1:41:31Speaker 00

What I really want to do, I think, is start another tech business. I love operating businesses.

• 1:41:36Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 1:41:37Speaker 00

Yeah, I'm actually. More fascinated with operating than I am with investing.

• 1:41:41Jen Cohen?

You know, maybe you and I are a better match than than than not, because that's my I'm looking for an operator. Maybe you can help me on my business.

• 1:41:49Speaker 00

I love to operate. That's what I want to do. I want to start another business. There's nothing more beautiful to me than creating something from nothing.

• 1:41:58Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 1:41:58Speaker 00

To create a business that didn't exist. Like, my last business had a thousand employees.

• 1:42:04Jen Cohen?

  That's a lot of employees.

• 1:42:05Speaker 00

Started with one. Like, started with one and it took nineteen years, but we got to a thousand people. We operate all over the world. And I have to tell you, every time I walk through the door, there's a sense of pride I had. Like, we

• 1:42:21Jen Cohen?

  Yes, I totally understand that.

• 1:42:23Speaker 00

It's my name on the door. Like, I just, I love that. I love that.

• 1:42:28Jen Cohen?

Do you have it in you to do another business with all the exercise you're doing? That takes about four hours a day, then you have

• 1:42:34Speaker 00

  I don't know. That's why I go through faces.

• 1:42:36Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, I was gonna say.

• 1:42:37Speaker 00

Because I remember how shitty and hard it is.

• 1:42:39Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:42:40Speaker 00

Zero to five million is a lot of shit.

• 1:42:44Jen Cohen?

  Yep.

• 1:42:45Speaker 00

When you play in the big game, billion, thousand employees, it's really hard to go back to the minor leagues.

• 1:42:54Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 1:42:55Speaker 00

And I think I could do it. I think enough time, if I'm honest with myself, do I have enough passion and drive to do all the shitty things you have to do when you're starting?

• 1:43:07Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:43:08Speaker 00

  And stay motivated? Probably not.

• 1:43:10Jen Cohen?

Yeah, but you're not really starting. I mean, this is just like, you've done it already. This is just another kind of

• 1:43:18Speaker 00

True. I mean, I could buy a business. Like, I think ideally, I need something that's already going.

• 1:43:23Jen Cohen?

Right. And like, you can kind of, because like

• 1:43:25Speaker 00

  And make it faster.

• 1:43:26Jen Cohen?

Right. Like, you already have a lot of momentum. So you can probably pull in people to help you with this, with a lot of the minutia stuff. And you can

• 1:43:33Speaker 00

  True.

• 1:43:34Jen Cohen?

You can do a lot, you know, like, it's like, you're not really starting

• 1:43:37Speaker 00

But I also love my life. I love working out.

• 1:43:39Jen Cohen?

  That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. I wasn't joking.

• 1:43:41Speaker 00

Today, the only thing I had going on was you and You know, an amazing run. Like, I love that, right?

• 1:43:49Jen Cohen?

I mean, it is pretty amazing. You have a nice life.

• 1:43:51Speaker 00

Yeah, so I don't really want to give that up.

• 1:43:54Jen Cohen?

And when are you shooting Shark Tank again? Is it done for the season?

• 1:43:58Speaker 00

June. We only film, like, we used to film June, September. Now, we only film June. We only film like eight days.

• 1:44:05Jen Cohen?

  Oh, my God, that's all?

• 1:44:07Speaker 00

  Did Mark tell you that?

• 1:44:08Jen Cohen?

No, I didn't ask him that question.

• 1:44:10Speaker 00

Yeah, we film, we make like 25 episodes in eight days.

• 1:44:12Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, I don't.

• 1:44:13Speaker 00

It's the easiest gig in the world. When I was on Dancing with the Stars, I was on it for 84 days.

• 1:44:19Jen Cohen?

And that's how you met your wife, obviously. Was she your partner for the thing? Also, I wanted to ask you something about your wife in Dancing with the Stars. So I heard you once talk about how your mom's favorite show was Dancing with the Stars.

• 1:44:31Speaker 00

  A hundred percent.

• 1:44:33Jen Cohen?

Like, do you think subconsciously, like, that was kind of also, you wanted to go on the show for your mom? You met, you married a girl from the show? There's a lot of psychology behind that.

• 1:44:43Speaker 00

Somebody just asked me that question. I thought, I think the dots in your life never connect until you look back. So, my mom, little Eastern European woman, loved the show. Like, everything her life wasn't was that show.

• 1:45:01Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 1:45:02Speaker 00

Beauty, pageantry, blah, blah, blah. She gets ill. She gets ovarian cancer. And she goes in the hospital. She's there for a year. Every Monday, I go to the hospital to watch Dancing with the Stars with all the other ladies. Near the end, she's watching the show and she says to me, Robbie, you're so beautiful. Why you not be on show?

• 1:45:28Speaker 00

So I say to her, if they ever ask me, I'll do it for you. 10 years before dragons then came along in Canada. Like, not even, like, like, how would I ever get on TV?

• 1:45:43Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 1:45:44Speaker 00

But I say to her, if they ask me, I will do it for you. Fast forward 10 years later, I'm auditioning for Dragon's Den. I don't know I'm auditioning. So one of the things they do is they put you in a room like this with green screens. And then a producer throws all these questions at you to see how you react. First question they asked me, well, they asked me a bunch of, you know, what was the weather like? Just to throw you off. But the key question they say is, why do you want to be famous? And you got to answer really quickly. Like you, they want to know, can you react? You know, this, you know, TV is snippets. So they're like, blah, blah, blah, blah. Why do you want to be famous? Without even thinking, I say, so I can get on Dancing with the Stars. They laugh, I laugh. Don't even think about it.

• 1:46:30Speaker 00

There is no US show at this point. Fast forward five years later, I get on Shark Tank. Shark Tank becomes this huge hit. Fast forward another 10 years. The producer calls me and says, hi, it's Deena Katz. Would you like to be on? Yes. Without even like, she didn't even finish the sentence. I'm like, yes. She said, would you like no more details? I'm like, it doesn't matter. Think of those things. Sometimes your life is just a journey you have to take and believe in the outcome.

• 1:47:04Jen Cohen?

  I love that story.

• 1:47:06Speaker 00

  Incredible.

• 1:47:07Jen Cohen?

I love it, but your mom.

• 1:47:08Speaker 00

And then I get on, I meet Kim. We have these incredible children and this incredible life. Here's a story you won't know. Kim wasn't on the show.

• 1:47:22Jen Cohen?

  What do you mean?

• 1:47:23Speaker 00

So they asked me to be on the show. They gonna, they say, who would you like to be partner with? I don't, I don't watch the show. I don't know. So I'm like, it doesn't matter. So they're going to partner me with somebody else. So I happened to be in LA and I realized, you know, I had gotten divorced. I was single, I was miserable, like, you know, most guys at that age get divorced or dating everybody. I went the other way, just started working 23 hours a day. Like I became the most miserable, hermody guy.

And I realized, oh, my gosh, maybe they think I'm still married. Like, maybe I'm that role on the show. So I call up Deena and I say, hey, the show means everything to me, but I want to take you guys out for dinner. So I go to her house for dinner and I tell her this painful story about my divorce. And like I said, I'm not married, like I'm single and I just want to be honest with you guys. And I realized you may not want me on the show after that, but just wanted to be honest with you guys. She's like, no, we'd love to have you on the show. As I'm leaving, Deena turns to her husband, Jerry, and says, that is the man Kim is going to marry. She calls Kim, who's now living in Australia.

• 1:48:41Speaker 00

She's never been married, tired of living in LA, never having met anybody. She says, I'm done with California. I'm moving back to Australia. She moves back to Australia. Deena calls her and says, I need you to come back for one more season. Kim says, no, I'm done. I appreciate it. Deena says, you have to trust me. This will change your life. True story. If Deena was here, she would tell you this story within five minutes.

• 1:49:07Jen Cohen?

  Are you serious?

• 1:49:08Speaker 00

So Kim comes back and we meet. But all those things, who'd have ever thought? That's why, you know, people like, people think that their life has to be a script. People think you have to have a business plan. I've never written a business plan. You've probably never written a plan. Action is better than theory, always. And your life is not theory. Your life is going like, well, we're sitting here, we're losing time. You've just got to go. Like, I always think, how fortunate for all those things to happen.

• 1:49:44Jen Cohen?

  Wow, that's a great story.

• 1:49:46Speaker 00

  It's a true story. It's incredible.

• 1:49:48Jen Cohen?

  That's an amazing story.

• 1:49:49Speaker 00

It's amazing. How lucky was Kim?

• 1:49:52Jen Cohen?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:49:54Jen Cohen?

Oh my God. How many years ago was that?

• 1:49:57Speaker 00

• 1:49:58Jen Cohen?

• 1:49:59Speaker 00

  Yeah.

• 1:50:00Jen Cohen?

  Wow, that's a great story.

• 1:50:04Speaker 00

It's, yeah, that's why, you know, to your point, I have a great life. Like, I'm so happy with where I am. Don't know if I want to go back to.

• 1:50:16Jen Cohen?

  Where, yeah.

• 1:50:16Speaker 00

  Yeah, that kind of.

• 1:50:17Jen Cohen?

  Into the trenches.

• 1:50:18Speaker 00

Yeah. I mean, that's why I left my company. I mean, I, I sold a business for, you know, a ton of money. It was a big business. And when you sell to equity, they're always like, oh, you don't work for us, you work for you. But you work for them.

• 1:50:33Jen Cohen?

  You work for them.

• 1:50:33Speaker 00

  And.

• 1:50:34Jen Cohen?

  Of course you do.

• 1:50:35Speaker 00

Not that they were bad, they were great guys, but I worked for them.

• 1:50:39Jen Cohen?

  100%.

• 1:50:40Speaker 00

And I realized, oh my gosh, I'm wealthier than I've ever been. And it's the first time in my life I'm working for somebody else. And I just missed that. I missed my own direction. I missed, I hated being second guessed. And again, they were great guys and are great guys. They couldn't have been more supportive, but I still hated that.

• 1:51:01Jen Cohen?

  100%.

• 1:51:02Speaker 00

I wanted to fail on my own. I wanted to succeed on my own. I wanted to go left when I wanted to go left. I wanted to go right.

• 1:51:10Jen Cohen?

But you wanted to call the shots for your life.

• 1:51:12Speaker 00

I wanted to call the shots.

• 1:51:13Jen Cohen?

  And that makes perfect sense.

• 1:51:15Speaker 00

And it worked for me. So it's, you know what it's like. It's when you have a certain amount of success, it's hard when someone else second guesses you. You want to go.

• 1:51:25Jen Cohen?

I love, I totally agree with you. My gosh, how long have I had you here for? I have no idea, like two hours. Wow.

• 1:51:32Speaker 00

  All right, we gotta go.

• 1:51:32Jen Cohen?

Okay, well, first of all, I loved this podcast. Can you come back again? I'm serious. Can you like come back?

• 1:51:40Speaker 00

I love you. You are, I was saying when you were, you were like a bundle of energy.

• 1:51:45Jen Cohen?

Oh my gosh, that you are. That's why you're, you're, I.

• 1:51:48Speaker 00

It's because you gave me this drink.

• 1:51:51Jen Cohen?

First of all, did you like it?

• 1:51:52Speaker 00

  I did like it.

• 1:51:53Jen Cohen?

I'm going to put some in your bag. You are incredible. You have been my favorite shark because I was, you know what? You did not disappoint. You are as. Charming and as kind and heartfelt as you see on TV. I swear, and I'm not just saying this, and I did not say that to Mark, actually, to be honest, and I

• 1:52:13Speaker 00

No one has ever accused Mark of being charming.

• 1:52:15Jen Cohen?

I was gonna say, right? And, and, and I'm not going to either. You like, you're, I want you to be back on the show and we have to work out together.

• 1:52:22Speaker 00

Oh, let's do that next time.

• 1:52:24Jen Cohen?

  Okay, no, I'm not joking.

• 1:52:25Speaker 00

But I need time because of course, the alpha in me is gonna wanna work

• 1:52:29Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 1:52:30Speaker 00

Harder than you, and I feel like you could probably do more pull-ups than I could right now.

• 1:52:35Jen Cohen?

How many pull-ups can you do?

• 1:52:36Speaker 00

I do three sets of 10.

• 1:52:39Jen Cohen?

That's good. Can you do, are those chin-ups or real pull-ups?

• 1:52:42Speaker 00

  I can do both.

• 1:52:43Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 1:52:47Jen Cohen?

  Okay, guys, if you don't

• 1:52:48Speaker 00

  How many can you do?

• 1:52:48Jen Cohen?

  I can do a few.

• 1:52:51Speaker 00

Can you do more than 10?

• 1:52:52Jen Cohen?

Maybe. Don't wanna do a competition?

• 1:52:55Speaker 00

No, because I saw your, I saw your post the other day. You are ripped.

• 1:53:00Jen Cohen?

Which post are you talking about?

• 1:53:01Speaker 00

You posted something with you doing a, you were just doing one, but your form was perfect.

• 1:53:05Jen Cohen?

  Thank you.

• 1:53:06Speaker 00

That's another thing. People take shortcuts in working out. That's what I've learned. Like, if you're gonna do a pull-up,

• 1:53:12Jen Cohen?

  Do it all.

• 1:53:12Speaker 00

  Do it dead.

• 1:53:13Jen Cohen?

Do a dead hang and then pull-up. That's a hundred percent.

• 1:53:16Speaker 00

Like, I see guys at the gym and they're doing these swinging pull-ups. I'm like, please.

• 1:53:19Jen Cohen?

And also, I think it's also, people have to be asymmetric. What women, uh, what women do is they focus on their lower body. They forget about their upper body. But in order to like, look symmetrical and to look like you're fit, you need to work your shoulders and your back so you have that V taper. And then it, it works so much better. And men tend to work their upper body and forget about their legs. And then they look like chickens. Like, so it's like, you have to do, you've gotta balance it out and be strong everywhere, or else you're really strong nowhere. Just cause you have a strong bicep doesn't make you strong. Right? Like,

• 1:53:52Speaker 00

I still need more time to work it.

• 1:53:54Jen Cohen?

You're fine. Okay, well, uh, follow him. He's, he's amazing and watch Shark Tank. Not like you really care, but you know.

• 1:54:00Speaker 00

  I do care.

• 1:54:01Jen Cohen?

  Do you have enough?

• 1:54:02Speaker 00

  I want everybody to watch.

• 1:54:03Jen Cohen?

I know, but what I'm saying is like, I think you have so many watchers already, but more, the more the merrier.

• 1:54:09Speaker 00

  You can always have more.

• 1:54:10Jen Cohen?

You can always have more. Exactly. All right. Thank you.
