To watch episodes of Financial Audit a week earlier, check us out on YouTube. We're so anti-American.

• 1:04Speaker 05

No, we're going to Germany. Doesn't matter.

• 1:06Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:06Caleb Hammer?

Are we sure we're not just fleeing because we can't survive in the system because we haven't put in a single ounce to learn?

• 1:12Speaker 05

We can absolutely survive in the system.

• 1:14Caleb Hammer?

This doesn't look like surviving in the system. This is a pile of debt.

• 1:17Speaker 06

I'm not in the belief that money should exist.

• 1:19Caleb Hammer?

What are we doing here? You're not a little victim at everything. You have a little thing called [bleep] doing [bleep] sometimes.

• 1:28Speaker 05

We need 12 grand by September. That's when we're getting out of here.

• 1:32Caleb Hammer?

Good thing we don't believe in money.

• 1:42Speaker 06

  Hello, I'm Elliot. I'm 24 years old.

• 1:45Speaker 05

Hi, I'm Mateo. I'm also 24 years old. We're from Portland, Oregon.

• 1:48Speaker 06

  And this is Financial Audit.

• 1:51Caleb Hammer?

Thanks for coming over from Portland. You look like you're from Portland. You got the full man bun really stuck in 2012 there.

• 1:58Speaker 05

Uh, he does my hair. He chooses what the hairstyle is.

• 2:00Speaker 06

  Yeah, that was me.

• 2:01Caleb Hammer?

  Really stuck in 2012 there.

• 2:03Speaker 06

  Thank you.

• 2:04Caleb Hammer?

We're starting a burger place with like metal chairs and stuff soon. What do we do for a living? Let's start with you.

• 2:11Speaker 06

  Uh, I'm an auditor. I.

• 2:13Caleb Hammer?

  Who do you audit?

• 2:14Speaker 06

Uh, it's inventory at, uh, Intel Warehouse.

• 2:20Speaker 05

Yeah, um, I work in the lab at, at Intel. Um, I test the systems before we send out.

• 2:26Caleb Hammer?

  Both at Intel?

• 2:26Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, I got him a job at Intel.

• 2:28Caleb Hammer?

Really? Okay. What do you make? Let's start there.

• 2:32Speaker 06

  Uh, oh, I make.

• 2:34Speaker 05

Do you want me to answer this one?

• 2:36Speaker 06

  I, yeah.

• 2:37Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 2:38Speaker 05

I do the money in the relationship.

• 2:40Caleb Hammer?

But you don't, you know what you make.

• 2:42Speaker 06

I make like 20 hours or $20 an hour.

• 2:46Speaker 05

  He, he makes.

• 2:47Caleb Hammer?

You don't even know you're hourly.

• 2:49Speaker 06

  No, not really.

• 2:50Caleb Hammer?

Wait, well, how are you accepting a job, trying to negotiate for raises, looking for a comparable or competitor job, trying to make more money? How are we doing that without knowing what we're making out of the gate?

• 3:00Speaker 05

Intel has to do good enough for us to even approach the raises topic.

• 3:04Speaker 06

  I can't even ask about a raise.

• 3:05Caleb Hammer?

You can find, there's other companies in Portland than Intel. Another job can be found. You need to know if you're getting paid competitively for your space, but you don't know that if you don't know what you're making. Okay. Fine. What, what is made?

• 3:18Speaker 05

He makes 19 an hour. I make 25 an hour.

• 3:21Caleb Hammer?

You said 20? Okay. And yours is hourly what?

• 3:26Speaker 05

  Uh, $20.50 an hour.

• 3:30Speaker 05

  As contractors to Intel.

• 3:32Caleb Hammer?

How many hours a week are we working?

• 3:34Speaker 06

  40, exactly.

• 3:35Speaker 05

  Full time.

• 3:35Caleb Hammer?

Okay. So let's hit in our account, shared account?

• 3:38Speaker 05

Uh, yeah, we, uh, we have joint finances. Uh, 48. Yes, we're married.

• 3:42Caleb Hammer?

  How long has it been?

• 3:43Speaker 05

  Uh, a few months.

• 3:44Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 3:45Speaker 05

We got married back in December.

• 3:46Caleb Hammer?

  This is fresh.

• 3:47Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 3:48Caleb Hammer?

Wow, okay. Okay. So what hits the account on a monthly basis?

• 3:53Speaker 05

Uh, about 4,800 a month after taxes.

• 3:57Speaker 05

  We get paid weekly.

• 3:59Caleb Hammer?

Four thousand eight hundred. I had fifty-five sixty. Was there overtime here and there?

• 4:02Speaker 05

Uh, if a month is, uh, like five weeks, then we get paid five times in the month.

• 4:08Caleb Hammer?

Which it may have been at that time.

• 4:09Speaker 06

  There may be holiday pay.

• 4:11Speaker 05

No, we don't get holiday pay. We get paid on holidays. We get paid on holidays, but there's no special pay adjustment. It's just eight hours of pay.

• 4:21Caleb Hammer?

Okay, for what it's worth, you guys have been together for only three months, so would we know that you-

• 4:25Speaker 05

No, no, no, we've been together for longer than three months.

• 4:27Speaker 06

  We've been married for-

• 4:28Caleb Hammer?

Well, how long have we combined our finances?

• 4:30Speaker 05

Uh, since August of last year.

• 4:32Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so some catching up, I am definitely allowing a part of grace of not knowing the household finances, but why are we just like putting it on one person's shoulders and the other one just doesn't care? Like, why do we, why, why are we doing it this way?

• 4:49Speaker 06

It's not so much not care, uh, but me being involved in the money would be more of a burden, I think, for you than otherwise.

• 4:58Speaker 05

It's like doing a task yourself versus, versus teaching someone how to do the task. Uh, it, it takes longer.

• 5:05Caleb Hammer?

It would take longer, but it would make sure that you're not the only one doing the task. And if you can't do the task in that moment, you can make sure the person that's also your equal in life can do the task.

• 5:13Speaker 05

He has access to all of the documents as well as all of the passwords for all of our accounts. So if I were to drop dead, uh, he could hand it to like my dad and figure it out that way.

• 5:22Speaker 06

Also, maybe, maybe I'll learn it over time.

• 5:27Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 5:28Caleb Hammer?

  You disagree?

• 5:31Speaker 05

  Uh.

• 5:33Speaker 06

Well, it's certainly not been, uh, in the plans.

• 5:36Caleb Hammer?

How long were we together before?

• 5:38Speaker 05

Uh, we got married after a year of being together.

• 5:42Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, so it's pretty quick.

• 5:45Speaker 06

Mm-hmm. And we were planning on getting married, uh, a lot later than that, but, uh, current events kind of-

• 5:53Speaker 05

  Spurred things along.

• 5:54Speaker 06

Yeah, we were planning to get married in like September of this year. Yeah.

• 5:59Caleb Hammer?

Something happened in Portland that I'm not aware of?

• 6:01Speaker 06

No, not in Portland, just, uh-

• 6:03Speaker 05

  In the nation. So, we-

• 6:04Caleb Hammer?

  Are they deporting trans people?

• 6:06Speaker 06

  No.

• 6:06Speaker 05

  Well, not yet.

• 6:08Caleb Hammer?

Oh, I wasn't aware of that one.

• 6:10Speaker 05

Yeah. Uh, but there's, there's definitely been some, uh, executive orders that made it, uh, harder to leave the, the country as a trans person.

• 6:18Caleb Hammer?

Harder to leave, really? Tell me.

• 6:20Speaker 06

Because of, um, it's related to passports. They, because of the executive order he signed about, like, there only being two genders. People with passports that have, um, and

• 6:34Speaker 05

  A different gender marker.

• 6:35Speaker 06

  A different gender marker.

• 6:36Caleb Hammer?

This made you get married quicker?

• 6:37Speaker 06

No, the getting married quicker part was because on November 5th, when Trump was

• 6:43Speaker 05

Was nominated for the, uh, for, to be president, we, uh, had to move up our timetables.

• 6:49Speaker 06

Project 2025, and, uh, it's not, uh, good if they go through with that for us, so.

• 6:56Speaker 05

It makes living in America very difficult.

• 6:59Caleb Hammer?

Is this gonna be a very political conversation?

• 7:00Speaker 06

  Very much so.

• 7:01Caleb Hammer?

I'm going to wind. Okay. I'm not gonna give my opinion on anything. I'm just gonna ask questions.

• 7:06Speaker 05

  That's fine.

• 7:06Caleb Hammer?

I want everyone and anyone from any walks of life, whether you are right or left, I don't care. Get your finances taken care of. Get your [BLEEP] together. I don't give a [BLEEP]. So you just ask questions. Okay, so, okay. So you got spooked by the election, so.

• 7:22Speaker 05

Yeah, we, we had plans to, uh, to leave for Germany in 2026.

• 7:26Caleb Hammer?

Germany. You know, they just selected their first right-wing government for, in the last, like, couple decades.

• 7:31Speaker 05

Uh, the, one of the right-wing parties is part of their government, but

• 7:35Caleb Hammer?

The Western European countries, isn't it?

• 7:39Speaker 06

We were watching the elections because of that.

• 7:42Caleb Hammer?

  And besides Italy.

• 7:43Speaker 05

There, there's, there's a lot going on in Europe.

• 7:45Speaker 06

The rest of the parties in the coalition are, like, refusing to work with AFD, so there's hope there, but with, uh,

• 7:52Caleb Hammer?

There's no hope of GDP growth.

• 7:54Speaker 06

  Well, yeah.

• 7:56Speaker 06

We're politically a little more scared here, but

• 8:00Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 8:00Speaker 06

  The, the marriage being

• 8:01Caleb Hammer?

Has something that happened to you?

• 8:03Speaker 06

  Not. To me specifically.

• 8:06Speaker 05

We're leaving for Germany for our like building future purposes.

• 8:10Caleb Hammer?

That's what we're talking about. I'm trying to get you guys to Germany?

• 8:12Speaker 05

Yes, yeah, you, uh, your job is to-

• 8:14Caleb Hammer?

I'm going to mine here, y'all.

• 8:15Speaker 05

Yeah, your job is to fix our budget so that we have enough in the bank for when we leave for Germany. We're going so that-

• 8:22Caleb Hammer?

How much you need to live in Germany? I've never calculated the need for living in Germany. They have more of a social safety now, but you guys wouldn't be citizens, so I don't know what you qualify for out of the gate.

• 8:30Speaker 06

  We need twelve thousand dollars.

• 8:32Speaker 05

Yeah, we need twelve thousand euros.

• 8:34Speaker 06

  Twelve thousand euros, yes.

• 8:35Speaker 05

  Dollars, yeah.

• 8:36Caleb Hammer?

  Europe isn't very pro-immigration right now. I don't know if it's different.

• 8:40Speaker 05

So for qualified individuals, they're very, uh, they're very interested. Germany's-

• 8:46Caleb Hammer?

Portland, you guys are making kind of low, though. So what, are you guys qualified individuals?

• 8:50Speaker 05

  Yeah, I, uh-

• 8:51Caleb Hammer?

What do we consider qualified individuals?

• 8:52Speaker 05

I work in a technology position and so, uh, they have an expedited visa process for that.

• 8:57Caleb Hammer?

  What's your job again?

• 8:58Speaker 05

Uh, I fix up computer systems. I do, um, some basic programming stuff.

• 9:03Caleb Hammer?

I think you get paid pretty low for the Portland area. Portland's expensive.

• 9:06Speaker 06

  Cause we're contractors.

• 9:07Speaker 05

  Cause we're contractors with Intel.

• 9:09Caleb Hammer?

Uh, but there are contractors that do make a lot of money, though, sometimes.

• 9:13Speaker 05

  If you're higher up.

• 9:14Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 9:15Speaker 05

  But for most of the-

• 9:17Caleb Hammer?

  Twenty-four, twenty-four. I have to remember we're twenty-four.

• 9:19Speaker 05

Yeah, twenty-four. I'm still finishing my degree, so, uh-

• 9:22Caleb Hammer?

  Undergrad?

• 9:23Speaker 05

  Yeah, undergrad, bachelor's.

• 9:24Caleb Hammer?

How long have you been in?

• 9:25Speaker 05

Uh, I started college at sixteen, getting my two-year, and then I had to wait for FAFSA to kick in because my parents were in that sweet spot where they made too much but not enough to help with college, so. Um, last year I finally hit old enough that FAFSA was like, sure, we'll give you money. And here I am finishing my third and then fourth year next year.

• 9:45Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 9:45Speaker 05

  But, uh-

• 9:46Caleb Hammer?

  And you? Qualified?

• 9:49Speaker 06

  Uh, no, no, I-

• 9:52Speaker 05

Qualified via experience, maybe work experience.

• 9:54Speaker 06

Yeah, up until recently, we were going with a different plan for me because I have, I have a chance with the derivative citizenship for Germany, but unfortunately, that's like a two-year process and we don't have time for that anymore, so.

• 10:08Caleb Hammer?

Okay. It's gonna, uh, sometime, I joke about Europe all the time. It makes it sound like I hate it. I actually love it. I love how they build their communities, just walkable communities, a lot of stuff like that. I feel like you're gonna have a relatively decent chance getting there because there's been a massive drain- Uh, brain drained from Europe because their economy is not keeping up across the board. Their wages aren't keeping up across the board.

• 10:30Speaker 05

Well, it's about to be the same here, so.

• 10:33Caleb Hammer?

There's also safety nets are going dry. Um, about the same here. We would have to drop like forty percent to make up for the gains since two thousand nine that they've never been able to make, so.

• 10:44Speaker 05

Oh, yeah, two thousand nine when I was nine years old. It was a great time to get into the stock market.

• 10:49Caleb Hammer?

That is exactly what Europe's economy GDP is still, by the way, where it was in two thousand nine.

• 10:55Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 10:55Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, that's where you're going. Okay.

• 10:58Speaker 05

Cost of living is also a lot lower, though.

• 11:00Caleb Hammer?

So happens when economies don't grow.

• 11:01Speaker 06

We'd be able to afford an education over there, which is kind of the most important thing.

• 11:08Speaker 05

  With executive orders.

• 11:09Caleb Hammer?

Degree, though. Again, I'm not, I, I like to, I like to, you know, make little European jokes. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. Uh, you move there if you want. It's okay. I think it was just, I'm just saying it's probably easier to move there because a lot of qualified individuals have left Europe because they don't make as much there. It's harder to make ahead. Things are not going as well there economically, so. That is, it should be easier for you to go there is all I'm saying. So if you want to go there, I'm down to help people get to their goals regardless. Let's get you there.

• 11:36Speaker 05

I pay seventeen grand a year for college right now.

• 11:39Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 11:39Speaker 05

And, uh, and in Europe, it is twelve thousand per year for rent, groceries, cost of living items. Um, and then also their, their tuition is included in that twelve thousand euros.

• 11:52Caleb Hammer?

Don't get me wrong. It's really nice when everything is subsidized. It, it feels really nice. Um, on, you know, the other end for the person that's going there. Whether or not that's sustainable, since their economies aren't growing, who knows? So if your kids can get that, good for them.

• 12:07Speaker 05

  I mean.

• 12:08Caleb Hammer?

  I don't know how that'll work.

• 12:09Speaker 05

Going permanently. We're going until I finish my degree. Um, and then hopefully after the administration is over.

• 12:16Speaker 06

Yeah, assuming things don't get worse.

• 12:17Speaker 05

Yeah, so assuming he doesn't go for that third term, um, then we'll come back. I'll have my degree.

• 12:22Caleb Hammer?

  Be constitutional, but.

• 12:23Speaker 05

It's not, but that hasn't stopped him before.

• 12:26Speaker 06

  So far.

• 12:28Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 12:31Caleb Hammer?

Feel like you guys. Okay. Is this a very big life choice to make just from an election?

• 12:40Speaker 05

We had planned it prior to the election.

• 12:42Caleb Hammer?

Who would have won either way? I don't base my entire life off of an election. I get you're in a more unique situation, but you're also in Portland. It's like the most-

• 12:54Speaker 05

Originally, the plan was he was going to get his derivative citizenship and then tuition for him in Germany would be free and-

• 13:01Caleb Hammer?

Tuition, is that the big focus? Is that the, are we really just using the whole election as an excuse to do-

• 13:06Speaker 05

Not the whole election. It's more like-

• 13:08Caleb Hammer?

We're landing on this degree thing, which I'm, again, let's get you to the goal.

• 13:12Speaker 05

He cannot effectively get a degree in America.

• 13:15Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 13:15Speaker 05

  Unless it's free.

• 13:16Speaker 06

  Well, it's just, I-

• 13:17Caleb Hammer?

Well, that's kind of bullshit. I can go to Austin Community College right now and semester take like eight credit hours for like a couple thousand bucks.

• 13:25Speaker 05

Yeah, the, the debt incurred is the issue here.

• 13:27Speaker 06

  Yeah, I, I-

• 13:27Caleb Hammer?

A couple, that, oh, that, that's already existing?

• 13:31Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 13:31Caleb Hammer?

  Oh.

• 13:32Speaker 05

Yeah, we'll, we'll get into that.

• 13:33Caleb Hammer?

  Why'd you get into debt?

• 13:34Speaker 05

  I wouldn't really, well, that's-

• 13:38Caleb Hammer?

I feel like that was a choice and sometimes we deal with the consequences of the choices that we've made.

• 13:41Speaker 05

  Definitely was. Um.

• 13:46Speaker 05

The, hold on, sorry. Are we moving on to the, what, what?

• 13:52Speaker 06

Yeah, are we getting into why you have student loans?

• 13:54Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. Are we, uh, doing Germany?

• 13:56Caleb Hammer?

I don't, you know, I'm, I feel like I'm just along for the ride right now. I, I don't know what's happening. I want to get you guys to the goal. I like to make little cheeky comments about Europe. Listen, I'm not pro or anti Europe. I don't care. They can do whatever they want. We can do whatever we want. I'm not pro or anti this last election. That is 888-Y-REFI-78. Break free from the high interest trap and get your finances under control once and for all. What does life look like today if our big goal is to get to Germany, which probably isn't necessarily cheap because there is going to be moving, we're going to be trying to settle. Are you going to get accepted into our college programs before you move?

• 15:46Speaker 05

Yeah, so for a German visa, if you're going for a student visa, a university has to accept you into their program, and you apply to a degree specifically. Yeah, yeah, I'm waiting on the application response.

• 16:02Caleb Hammer?

And if we don't get it?

• 16:03Speaker 05

Then we're going for work visas and I will...

• 16:06Caleb Hammer?

But then that negates the big college part.

• 16:09Speaker 05

It negates the big college part, but I'm going to online school right now. And so with that, I can do it from anywhere.

• 16:18Caleb Hammer?

What do we hate about community college? What's wrong with going for a couple thousand hours a semester?

• 16:22Speaker 05

Once you've got your two-year, community college doesn't...

• 16:24Caleb Hammer?

No, I know, but for you?

• 16:26Speaker 06

For, yeah, for me, I don't think it's a good idea for me to continue doing college here in the States when it costs so much money.

• 16:36Caleb Hammer?

  Couple thousand a semester.

• 16:37Speaker 06

I, I went to PCCE when I was much younger and that was a disaster.

• 16:45Speaker 06

So I would, if we were going to Germany, I, yeah, I flunked out. It was during.

• 16:51Caleb Hammer?

Is that the community college's fault, or?

• 16:53Speaker 06

  No, and it's.

• 16:55Caleb Hammer?

What's gonna be different in Germany when you can't, can you speak German?

• 16:58Speaker 06

Yes, yes, he can. But the, so.

• 17:03Speaker 05

The difference this time around is that he is now medicated for ADHD.

• 17:07Speaker 06

  That also.

• 17:08Caleb Hammer?

So that doesn't change going to community college now for a couple thousand, what?

• 17:12Speaker 05

The cost in Germany is going to be cheaper than if you were to go here. It's roughly three hundred euros.

• 17:18Caleb Hammer?

  Three hundred a semester?

• 17:19Speaker 05

  Mm hmm.

• 17:20Caleb Hammer?

Well, I thought you gave me a different number.

• 17:22Speaker 05

No, no, no, I spend here today seventeen thousand a year.

• 17:25Caleb Hammer?

Well, what did you say it would cost over there with, you said everything included?

• 17:28Speaker 05

Oh, yeah, so rent and groceries and all of that, the German government wants you to have twelve thousand euros.

• 17:35Speaker 06

That's what they recommend so that you stay afloat.

• 17:38Caleb Hammer?

Oh, sure, sure, sure. But you guys are dual income household, though, we can kind of support each other as we go through.

• 17:45Speaker 05

Yeah, so long as the education department remains solvent and FAFSA continues to exist.

• 17:51Caleb Hammer?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, don't they recommend having more like twelve thousand in savings?

• 17:56Speaker 05

Well, that's, that's what it would be. It would be twelve thousand in savings.

• 17:59Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, before going in?

• 18:01Speaker 05

  Uh, yes, before going in.

• 18:02Caleb Hammer?

I assume if you're on the show, you would probably have immense debt and the savings is, okay, okay. I'm still confused of the anti-community college thing, because it's gonna cost money to get over there.

• 18:16Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 18:17Caleb Hammer?

And then there's also gonna be likely a loss of potential income as well. Because again, usually when you get a lower cost of living area, you get lower.

• 18:24Speaker 06

  You make less of it.

• 18:26Caleb Hammer?

Works. I don't know if we know this or not, but, um. Does that not concern us?

• 18:32Speaker 06

I'm not, so I, if we stayed in the States, I wouldn't be interested in going to college here. But if we went to, because of the cost and because I.

• 18:43Caleb Hammer?

Couple thousand a semester? Community college?

• 18:46Speaker 06

  Yeah, I'm, it's.

• 18:48Caleb Hammer?

The median person in the United States makes like, what is it, like fifty thousand dollars a year? I think a couple of thousand a semester is worth the investment.

• 18:58Speaker 05

We already make, uh, close to that amount.

• 19:01Caleb Hammer?

Well, you don't make the median household. That's for an individual.

• 19:04Speaker 06

I don't see the, uh, there's no incentive for me to go to college here because I don't feel like I could go the distance to get like the, the level of degree that I would want if I was going into college.

• 19:19Speaker 05

College in Germany also only takes three years instead of the four here. So it's less time.

• 19:25Caleb Hammer?

  Is it all year?

• 19:26Speaker 05

Uh, it's most of the year.

• 19:27Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so take summer semesters and make it three years then.

• 19:33Speaker 06

Well, and I could actually go into, like, I could go further than undergraduate. I'd like to do something with like languages or history. So.

• 19:45Caleb Hammer?

Oh, so we're not going with the intent to make money?

• 19:47Speaker 05

Well, if we're going to Germany, we're going with the intent to make money. For, for me at least, he's debated getting a full auditor degree instead of just.

• 19:56Caleb Hammer?

That's not what was just said.

• 19:58Speaker 06

No, I would need to find a way to make the, the cost of going into college worth the effort because I would want to come out with a job that I could actually stay in forever.

• 20:10Caleb Hammer?

I don't know what that means to you. I don't know what that means.

• 20:14Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 20:15Caleb Hammer?

No one stays in one job forever. No one does that.

• 20:18Speaker 05

He is the kind of person who would. He finds the things that he likes and he does them forever.

• 20:24Caleb Hammer?

What if it's an industry that nobody's hiring?

• 20:27Speaker 05

He will find the one job that.

• 20:28Caleb Hammer?

Maybe. I think there's gonna be a thousand other people, usually in those more artsy.

• 20:33Speaker 05

  He's just better.

• 20:35Caleb Hammer?

He's making nineteen dollars an hour.

• 20:38Speaker 06

I mean, I have, uh, established myself very well in the team in a very short amount of time.

• 20:43Speaker 05

Yeah, he, he has essentially created the position he now occupies.

• 20:47Caleb Hammer?

  For nineteen dollars an hour.

• 20:48Speaker 05

  For nineteen dollars.

• 20:49Speaker 06

Yeah, I do not get paid for the work that I do. That's for sure.

• 20:53Speaker 05

But he's building the experience so that he can transfer to a better job later.

• 20:57Caleb Hammer?

I guess we have little gifts.

• 21:00Speaker 07

  It's me, the

• 21:04Speaker 07

We don't need the jingle twice.

• 21:07Speaker 07

Stop it. This is about vacation inflation and how Priceline negotiates amazing deals on hotels, flights, and rental cars.

• 21:15Speaker 07

Yeah, but I didn't mention that you can save up to 60% off hotels in the Priceline app. Fine. No one deals more deals than Please stop. Touche.

• 21:28Speaker 07

  Priceline.

• 21:28Caleb Hammer?

For you though, make sense you're so headset. I just wanted to give you a little preemptive welcome gift, so.

• 21:35Speaker 06

I think, I think we have those.

• 21:36Speaker 05

  What do we got?

• 21:37Caleb Hammer?

Cause we're doing, uh, uh, you're making, oh.

• 21:43Speaker 05

  What do we got?

• 21:44Caleb Hammer?

Oh, it's already here. Authentic German food.

• 21:47Speaker 05

  Yo.

• 21:48Caleb Hammer?

  Straight from the source.

• 21:49Speaker 05

  Yo. That's exciting, very exciting.

• 21:54Caleb Hammer?

  There you go.

• 21:55Speaker 05

Are we allowed to eat this on set?

• 21:57Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, sure.

• 21:58Speaker 05

  Hell yeah.

• 21:59Caleb Hammer?

Sure, as long as you're not smacking into the camera.

• 22:01Speaker 05

No, no, we're gonna get an ASMR segment.

• 22:05Speaker 06

  I can't do ASMR.

• 22:06Speaker 05

What is it? What is it called? Mukbang?

• 22:08Caleb Hammer?

I don't know. We're just, we're giving you guys a sausage to eat, cause we know you like that.

• 22:16Speaker 06

  Well, thank you, Caleb.

• 22:17Speaker 05

  That's reasonable sized.

• 22:20Caleb Hammer?

Okay. Well, there you go. You get your, you get your cheap college and

• 22:31Caleb Hammer?

  kind of cheap healthcare.

• 22:33Speaker 06

  Can we get some water?

• 22:35Caleb Hammer?

  You can gargle some spit.

• 22:40Speaker 06

  I got you.

• 22:42Caleb Hammer?

I, okay, listen, I was about to jump into the finances, but Lindsay, our master of tea, really wants to hear more about your origin story.

• 22:51Speaker 05

  Yes, yes.

• 22:52Caleb Hammer?

I guess, and then we'll jump into the finances here.

• 22:55Speaker 05

Oh, you're still chewing. Okay, so, um, we met at a different job several years ago. We worked at a company that made the machines that Intel uses to make their computer parts.

• 23:08Speaker 05

We were both dating different people at the time. He was engaged.

• 23:12Caleb Hammer?

  Engaged?

• 23:13Speaker 06

  To someone else?

• 23:14Caleb Hammer?

What is this? You're 24 now. What, when was this?

• 23:17Speaker 06

  2021?

• 23:18Speaker 05

  Yeah, 2021.

• 23:19Caleb Hammer?

Okay. A lot of engagements and marries and just before 25, but okay, sure.

• 23:25Speaker 05

  Live fast, eat ass.

• 23:30Speaker 05

  Oh.

• 23:33Caleb Hammer?

  Interesting.

• 23:33Speaker 05

Yeah, so he was engaged. I was in a long-term relationship and then.

• 23:39Speaker 06

You were only at that job for like a couple of weeks.

• 23:42Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 23:42Speaker 06

  I stayed around, but.

• 23:43Speaker 05

I stayed there because I was waiting for a different position to open up and then accept. Bill's still gotta get paid.

• 23:49Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 23:50Speaker 05

But I met this knucklehead and then.

• 23:53Caleb Hammer?

  Knucklehead, wow, okay.

• 23:53Speaker 05

  He got himself laid off.

• 23:57Speaker 05

  After I had left.

• 23:58Speaker 06

I was one of the last ones to be laid off. I will let you know.

• 24:01Speaker 05

Yeah, some executive order essentially shut down half of their warehouses, so he was out of a job. We were, yes, we were, we were.

• 24:11Speaker 05

Well, we were both with women at the time.

• 24:13Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 24:14Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 24:15Caleb Hammer?

  Both what?

• 24:15Speaker 05

With women, like dating women. His fiance was a woman. My long time relationship was also a woman, believe it or not.

• 24:23Caleb Hammer?

  I believe it.

• 24:25Speaker 05

And then. Yeah, so we both leave those jobs and we stay in contact by going on double dates with our with our partners, watching various horror movies and whatnot.

• 24:37Speaker 06

So the beginning of our relationship started with us going on double dates together with our partners.

• 24:42Speaker 05

  Just hanging out as friends.

• 24:43Speaker 06

Yeah. And then when I ended up like breaking up with, well, I didn't break up with my ex-fiance. I'm sure she'd be in the comments about that if I lied about that. But when we broke up,

• 25:03Speaker 06

and I were planning on going on a double date together with our partners.

• 25:10Speaker 05

In December of 2023, I asked him if if we could become partners.

• 25:20Caleb Hammer?

Where do you think your Hammer financial score is in the world of zero to 10? Kill me now.

• 25:25Speaker 06

  Zero.

• 25:26Speaker 05

No, no, the online thing said it was like a one or two, right?

• 25:31Caleb Hammer?

If you want to take that online thing, it is in the description below or go to kahlemhammer.com. Okay, so we broke up and.

• 25:42Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 25:43Caleb Hammer?

  Found each other. Okay.

• 25:46Caleb Hammer?

I just told that story in five seconds. All right, Capital One Venture. What is going on here?

• 25:54Speaker 05

Uh, I don't know, you tell me. What do we got?

• 26:00Speaker 06

  Uh, that would be...

• 26:03Speaker 05

  You've got it right there.

• 26:04Caleb Hammer?

You're the finance one of the relationship, I was told.

• 26:07Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I make sure we, we pay it every month.

• 26:11Caleb Hammer?

  Pay what?

• 26:12Speaker 06

  Yeah, that's your card.

• 26:13Caleb Hammer?

  No?

• 26:14Speaker 05

No, no, not pay it off, that, that balance went up rather quickly.

• 26:19Caleb Hammer?

Why? What is going on with this card?

• 26:21Speaker 05

Uh, when we were still friends, we decided to go on a trip to Greece.

• 26:27Caleb Hammer?

  As friends?

• 26:28Speaker 05

  Yes, as friends.

• 26:30Speaker 06

  Yeah, as friends.

• 26:30Speaker 05

Believe it or not, I haven't seen the movie Mamma Mia, so I didn't understand what...

• 26:34Caleb Hammer?

I believe it, I haven't seen it either.

• 26:35Speaker 05

  Going to Greece with a...

• 26:37Speaker 06

I tried to explain to him that going to Greece with someone that you've more or less only spent a little bit of time with has romantic connotations.

• 26:47Speaker 05

A little bit of time, we'd been friends for a year and a half at this point.

• 26:50Caleb Hammer?

All right, I get it, we touch each other's butts. I don't care. I don't care.

• 26:54Speaker 05

No, we went as friends. My mom told me that if I was going to go to Greece anyways, I, I had already had a trip planned, that I should get a travel card for it, so I could get the miles, and I was like, that sounds great, I'll get the card.

• 27:10Caleb Hammer?

Why is there a lot of debt on this card?

• 27:13Speaker 05

Uh, because we didn't end up fully paying it off, and it kept...

• 27:16Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 27:18Speaker 06

Because, um, he asked me if I could afford to go on this trip, uh, and I was like, yeah, thinking I could, uh, pay it back to him a little bit slowly over time, not realizing that he threw the whole trip on a credit card.

• 27:32Speaker 05

I, I put the trip on the card, paid my portion immediately, and then kinda just twiddled my thumbs waiting for him to give me the rest.

• 27:40Speaker 06

And that urgency was never quite, uh...

• 27:44Speaker 05

communicated to me. I don't know if someone says, uh, yeah, I can afford it. You know, you'd expect that they hand the money over.

• 27:52Caleb Hammer?

Okay. Okay. All right. Great. Wonderful. Guys, this is pretty exciting. Well, zoom in. Let's talk about this for a second. Okay. So I do a little bit negotiating here and there, uh, you know, when we're having sponsorships and stuff like that. And you know, I've been working with Moomoo for a while and I got a little special negotiation for you guys. Cause I wanted to get you free money because if I get money from them, I want you to get money from them. And then, you know, we're all happy. And the thing is, what I got was exactly what I would want to get if I were putting money in an investing account. Immediate returns on investment. So right now I got for you guys and only you guys, literally no other creator has this. If you deposit 2,000 hours into Moomoo, you get an instant $150 and then 8.1% APY on that money.

• 28:37Caleb Hammer?

That's like a 16% return. It's crazy. It's, it's absolutely awesome. Get the free money now. Link in the description below. Let's do this thing. Let's make some money. Well, you purchased 2,788 dollars and 29 cents on here.

• 28:50Caleb Hammer?

All right. With 207 dollars of interest, I don't know why the we're purchasing that much money. Why are we, why are we purchasing that much of a card that is accruing interest that we are not fully paying off? The fuck are you talking about? Have you paid back your trip yet?

• 29:02Speaker 05

Uh, no, almost. We're, we're almost there.

• 29:05Caleb Hammer?

That means no. Almost is no. I don't know if you know that. Okay. So why the are we purchasing 2,788?

• 29:12Speaker 05

  Uh, groceries.

• 29:14Caleb Hammer?

We make 4,800 dollars a month. How much did you guys spend last month?

• 29:19Speaker 05

I don't know. What, what does it say? We probably spent.

• 29:22Caleb Hammer?

  I asked you.

• 29:24Speaker 05

  Uh.

• 29:25Caleb Hammer?

  Good death.

• 29:26Speaker 05

A thousand dollars? Why would we only spend a thousand dollars? No. $2,000? No, we spent more than we made most likely. Uh, I would say we spent, so with all of our, our debt payments and stuff, plus how much we, uh, spend on just groceries and whatnot, we probably spent like 40, 500 is gonna be my guess.

• 29:49Caleb Hammer?

Eight thousand, six hundred forty-two. What the are we doing? What the are we doing? We have one thousand, then four thousand. We think you spent what you made? No, no. Thousand, how do you think you spent a thou- what's your rent? What's your rent?

• 30:06Speaker 05

We spend thirteen hundred. Thirteen hundred.

• 30:09Caleb Hammer?

So you thought your spending was a thousand for the month?

• 30:12Speaker 05

  I guess I would.

• 30:13Caleb Hammer?

I don't know how German math works, but I don't think that'll add up there either.

• 30:18Speaker 05

Yeah. We, we live with roommates, um, so a lot of our, our grocery budget just goes onto the card and they will send me money.

• 30:26Speaker 05

I'm sure there's a lot of Costco purchases.

• 30:28Caleb Hammer?

  Thousand last month?

• 30:29Speaker 05

No, no, we, it, it may seem like a lot, but a lot of that was recouped in this, the money that I get back from, from the roommates.

• 30:37Caleb Hammer?

And then one hundred and fifty-nine dollars. Account transfer and a forty-five dollars.

• 30:43Speaker 05

  It's probably more than that.

• 30:44Caleb Hammer?

Interesting, interesting how this is, uh, uh, working out. Are you sure you guys aren't just trying to move to a system that's a little easier because we're lazy as fuck?

• 30:55Speaker 05

How much was deposited? How much was deposited?

• 30:58Caleb Hammer?

  Deposited?

• 30:59Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, cuz, uh, if.

• 31:01Caleb Hammer?

  That's what was sent in.

• 31:03Speaker 05

If the, uh, amount we got from, let's see, we had our wedding, um, and we got a lot of money from that.

• 31:09Caleb Hammer?

  How much was your wedding?

• 31:10Speaker 05

Uh, we spent twenty-five hundred on it. Oh, uh.

• 31:13Caleb Hammer?

I don't know if it's in these statements.

• 31:15Speaker 05

Couple grand, well, the, the deposits that I made into our savings account should be in the statements.

• 31:20Caleb Hammer?

  Like ATM?

• 31:22Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 31:22Caleb Hammer?

Deposits via ATM, we had that to your roommates pay you via ATM?

• 31:27Speaker 05

No, no, that's, that's the PayPal Venmo.

• 31:29Caleb Hammer?

Then, okay, then I don't care.

• 31:32Speaker 05

No, if we spent eight grand, uh, the only way that we could have done that is from the.

• 31:38Caleb Hammer?

Spent, I heard a thousand and four thousand. The reality was eight thousand, three hundred something. You don't know your numbers.

• 31:46Speaker 05

  I don't know.

• 31:47Caleb Hammer?

This is a harder system. We can, we can like it or we can dislike it. And that's okay. Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion. And I honestly think there's a right or wrong. It's just depending on what you kind of just value. Okay. This is a harder system. A lot of the times the harder you work, the bigger risk you take. You can make a bigger pie here. That's kind of the thing. But for people that tend to not care or be lazy, they're gonna have a harder time. That is, that is a fact of our system. There is a system that you guys are going to, or you're able to be a little more chill. You can be a little more lazy and there's less consequences, but also you don't get as big of a pie. If you go ahead and risk a lot of things. Okay. We, do we agree with these, at least basic things?

• 32:26Speaker 05

  Sure. Yeah.

• 32:27Caleb Hammer?

Are you sure you guys aren't just leaving because like you don't know what the you're talking about? You haven't spent a single second to learn.

• 32:35Speaker 05

I don't know about these finances.

• 32:37Caleb Hammer?

These finances, i.e. the ones we're literally having to pay bills with.

• 32:40Speaker 05

  Our finances.

• 32:41Caleb Hammer?

You said a thousand. What'd you think it was just a thousand for you? Your rent's twelve hundred.

• 32:46Speaker 05

  But no, no, no.

• 32:47Caleb Hammer?

But are we sure we're not just fleeing because we can't survive in the system? Because we haven't put in a single ounce to learn?

• 32:53Speaker 05

We can absolutely survive in this system. It's just miserable.

• 32:57Caleb Hammer?

This doesn't look like surviving in the system. This is a pile of debt.

• 33:02Speaker 05

I don't know. Check the, check the payments.

• 33:03Caleb Hammer?

Can survive? I don't know what the we're talking about. Okay. Here's a payment. Oh, you made a payment? Oh, good. Even though you made a $4,350 payment, the balance only went down a thousand dollars. That's my rebuttal. Like, I don't know what you're, what do you want? What are you talking about?

• 33:19Speaker 05

Balance still went down. Balance still went down.

• 33:22Caleb Hammer?

Went down and you still accrued $207.66 in interest.

• 33:29Speaker 05

  It's, uh.

• 33:29Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, why don't you teach a personal finance class? Everyone's gonna be so well off. It's for Joanne stores and.

• 33:37Speaker 05

Yeah, that was us buying stuff for the wedding.

• 33:40Caleb Hammer?

McDonald's, yeah. Are we supplying fries for everyone at the wedding? Joanne stores, Swetson house, McDonald's. Lots of McDonald's. Who's the McDonald's? Cause neither of you are fat.

• 33:52Speaker 05

  We both enjoy McDonald's.

• 33:53Caleb Hammer?

I'm so jealous. Why can I not have that metabolism? I don't understand.

• 33:57Speaker 05

  It's great.

• 33:57Caleb Hammer?

  Serrano Italian, Serrano Italian.

• 33:59Speaker 05

That was, that was where the.

• 34:01Caleb Hammer?

Thirsty Lion, Mama Shwarma, McDonald's, Ross Ross. Rossing it up like crazy.

• 34:06Speaker 05

  More, more wedding supplies.

• 34:08Caleb Hammer?

Yeah. Going in and getting some bullshit in the gas station, McDonald's. Likely getting some bullshit Seattle specialty lovely dapper desserts. Isn't Fred Meyer grocery store?

• 34:19Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 34:20Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, quite a few of those, but they seem to be more smaller purchases, which you never really know.

• 34:25Speaker 05

Our, our big purchases for groceries come from Costco.

• 34:29Caleb Hammer?

So what the are you getting at Fred Meyer?

• 34:31Speaker 05

Like the onesie twosie things that.

• 34:33Caleb Hammer?

Onesie twosies? What's a onesie twosie?

• 34:35Speaker 05

We're not good at. Quantity items. Costco's a bookstore.

• 34:39Caleb Hammer?

Onesie twosie? We call them onesie twosie?

• 34:41Speaker 05

  Fifty avocados.

• 34:42Caleb Hammer?

That's fine. I've just never heard of onesie twosie. Is this a west coast thing?

• 34:46Speaker 05

You should go to Portland. It's great.

• 34:47Caleb Hammer?

Yeah. Onesie twosies? That's what we call them in Portland?

• 34:50Speaker 05

  Yes. Small items.

• 34:51Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah. Onesie twosies?

• 34:52Speaker 05

  Things, you know, onesie twosies.

• 34:54Caleb Hammer?

We speak like toddlers in Portland? Okay.

• 34:56Speaker 05

Hey, Canada calls them loonies and tunies, man.

• 34:59Caleb Hammer?

  What?

• 34:59Speaker 05

Yeah. Can't Canada like their, their one dollar and their two dollars? Loonies and tunies.

• 35:04Caleb Hammer?

Canada can't figure out how to get like a house under a million dollars. I don't give a what Canada says. They don't know what they're doing. Except for the ones that download a bunch of them up. You Canadians are.

• 35:16Speaker 05

I don't know. They're, they're doing better than us in the economics department right now.

• 35:19Caleb Hammer?

It's legitimately not true. They haven't had a growth in productivity in four years. That is unheard of in western civilization. That is beyond factually incorrect. Economically, they're horrible. Economically, the median house, housing price in Canada is four times ours.

• 35:35Speaker 05

Their GDP has a growth for the last quarter. Our growth is going to be a, a reduction.

• 35:40Caleb Hammer?

Well, let's see. We haven't had those numbers.

• 35:43Speaker 05

  The, the.

• 35:45Caleb Hammer?

But I don't go. But listen, I'm not the big account. I don't even, I'm not fucking red, white and blue jacking myself off. I don't even give a. But if you're talking about that, that's objectively incorrect. The Canadian can productivity growth is an absolute disaster, which means wages do not increase. Their housing prices are four times what ours are. They have a population of what 40 million, but they had, uh, wasn't it like immigration of 400,000 or something? An absolutely crazy percentage and they can't house those people? And it pushes everyone's cost of living substantially higher, even though economically.

• 36:18Speaker 05

They have an immigration of 400,000, then they've got to have spaces for them to go.

• 36:22Caleb Hammer?

Oh guys, so that's how that works.

• 36:25Speaker 05

  I don't know, we're going to Germany. Doesn't matter.

• 36:28Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 36:29Caleb Hammer?

I, I know, and I know I'm definitely off a little on that statistic on that last one specifically, but it's still a crazy percentage. Like, people can't literally get housing in Canada. You think our housing's bad here? Buddy, I don't know what you're talking about. I'm okay with the GDP on a quarterly basis that does this. I'm just glad ours has actually grown over the last decade.

• 36:52Caleb Hammer?

Fred Meyer, we're getting onesie twosies, cafe and deli, Wendy's, Arby's, McDonald's, some bull (bleep) gas station, bull (bleep) in the gas station, something amusement, amusement.

• 37:09Caleb Hammer?

It's interesting, gas station. Listen, I, I, I'm just, again, I'm concerned that this conversation, I wonder if there's even a point to it because there are so many things I will rag us about. I will rag on the United States. I'll rag on individuals. I will rag on anyone for objective reality things. That's all I care about. But you guys seem to be in a world where just like everything's bad. And then if we're in that situation where that is not objectively true, when it comes to numbers, like inflation data came in today. That's when we're filming it. It's the best it's been in, like, four years. Like, that's incredible.

• 37:49Speaker 05

  What was it?

• 37:50Caleb Hammer?

Uh, under 3%, 2.8, if I'm not mistaken.

• 37:54Speaker 05

Out of, out of this, that is actually really good. That's great. But, uh...

• 37:58Caleb Hammer?

All I'm saying is, does this conversation even matter? I feel like you're just so anti, which is a very classic Gen Z thing to do.

• 38:05Speaker 05

  I can't finish my degree.

• 38:07Caleb Hammer?

  Anti-West.

• 38:08Speaker 05

I can't finish my degree if the Department of Education gets shut down. If FAFSA's gone, I'm

• 38:13Caleb Hammer?

  What's your, what's your tuition?

• 38:15Speaker 05

  Uh, 17 grand a year.

• 38:16Caleb Hammer?

How many scholarships did you apply to this last semester?

• 38:18Speaker 05

  Zero.

• 38:22Caleb Hammer?

  No sympathy for me then.

• 38:24Speaker 05

  Listen, man.

• 38:25Caleb Hammer?

Come on, that's fucking stupid. Where's any kind of responsibility?

• 38:28Speaker 05

Scholarships require you to put in your SATs or ACTs and I didn't-

• 38:32Caleb Hammer?

Or they require you to put in a little bit of things?

• 38:34Speaker 05

  I did not get those.

• 38:35Speaker 06

  Yeah, that is true.

• 38:37Speaker 05

I started in college at 16 and through like a program with my district and so I didn't, I didn't take those.

• 38:43Speaker 06

Cause he already had college credits.

• 38:45Speaker 05

  I was already in college.

• 38:47Speaker 06

  He didn't need to.

• 38:50Speaker 05

And not like the AP stuff. I went to the community college.

• 38:59Speaker 05

But yeah, no, I didn't have to take my ACTs or SATs and so applying to scholarships, they ask for those and so I'm kind of- But uh-

• 39:10Speaker 06

  You could like go and-

• 39:12Caleb Hammer?

Current estimates are suggesting that about 50, 60% of scholarships are merit-based, meaning they require SAT to ACT scores. So I will rebuttal again with a-

• 39:24Caleb Hammer?

I mean, you're taking a cop out. You just immediately threw out a thing that was factually incorrect, even though 50 to 60% do. That doesn't mean that you haven't put in that effort. If you're immediately complaining about the cost of college and the cost of college is something that is very valid to complain about, but you didn't put any work into the alternatives?

• 39:42Speaker 05

The scholarships that have shown up on my university scholarship page re-

• 39:46Caleb Hammer?

So look outside of that! Are you incapable of doing anything? Do people have to come to you? Are you only able to do things if people come to you? You can't go out. You can't go out. You're not an adult. You're not 24?

• 39:57Speaker 05

  I came to you.

• 39:57Caleb Hammer?

  You're 14.

• 39:58Speaker 05

  I came to you.

• 40:00Caleb Hammer?

And I'm telling you, maybe you should go to other boards than just the one that pop up on your college website. Like, like, I'm sorry, I have sympathy for the cost of college. Deep sympathy. I have student loans still. It happens. That sucks. But if you don't put in work for alternatives, then that sympathy goes away because you didn't put in one minute of effort.

• 40:24Speaker 05

  I don't

• 40:24Caleb Hammer?

Where is any kind of personal responsibility here?

• 40:26Speaker 05

I don't need to go for these scholarships when FAFSA has already covered my tuition.

• 40:31Caleb Hammer?

  But you owe that still.

• 40:33Speaker 05

  No.

• 40:33Caleb Hammer?

You're not taking student loans at all?

• 40:35Speaker 05

  Nope.

• 40:35Caleb Hammer?

Okay, well, that's great. Now you can still take student loans and finish school.

• 40:39Speaker 05

Student loans are absolutely horrendous. They have ruined my parents' lives. They have impacted his ability to complete college.

• 40:47Caleb Hammer?

How much of student loans do you have?

• 40:48Speaker 06

  Like 12,000.

• 40:50Caleb Hammer?

  That's incorrect.

• 40:53Caleb Hammer?

• 42:47Speaker 05

On the wage that we make, the 12 grand will be in his life for a very long time.

• 42:53Caleb Hammer?

For a very long time. That depends how you do it. Guys, I saw how much you spent on your monthly basis. I see in here is going through bull. You could sacrifice and pay off student loans. You're not a little victim at everything. You have a little thing called fucking doing shit sometimes. You're able to put in work. Student loans, it is a mathematical equation that if you borrow in federal student loans, what you would make in your first year outside of college, it still works out and you can pay those off in the 10-year repayment program. 10-year repayment program.

• 43:26Speaker 05

  Well, that's a thing.

• 43:28Caleb Hammer?

  Huh?

• 43:29Speaker 05

If that goes away, you're still.

• 43:31Caleb Hammer?

  A 10-year repayment program?

• 43:32Speaker 05

Yeah, the public service loan forgiveness thing.

• 43:34Caleb Hammer?

That's not, no, I'm talking about forgiveness. The traditional payment program pays them off in 10 years. So he doesn't even.

• 43:41Speaker 05

  They're not my student loans.

• 43:42Caleb Hammer?

No, you just don't even know. You're, you're against something that you don't even know. You're against something that you're not, you don't even have the slightest, because that's the, that's the normal student loan and you don't even know that, yet you're so vehemently against them.

• 43:55Speaker 05

Yes, because my parents have been paying them off greater than that 10-year.

• 44:00Caleb Hammer?

Yes, because they weren't on the traditional repayment method. They probably borrowed too much for a worthless degree, or they probably around their spending and were done with their money.

• 44:08Speaker 05

My parents are government service workers. They, uh, they're working through the public service loan forgiveness program, but it's been difficult with all of the, this that's been going on.

• 44:20Caleb Hammer?

What, they only have started to qualify in the last two months?

• 44:25Speaker 05

I don't know the specifics. I just know it's uh it's still taking time.

• 44:29Caleb Hammer?

I don't think I can deal with these people. Oh my. You don't even know their situation. Listen, I don't know their situation either, but we can't say it because it wasn't because of their actions. We can't say it because they weren't willing to sacrifice and pay off their student loans. A lot of people, they immediately go on to an income driven thing, even though they can fully pay them off. They do that. Me, I'm paying the minimum monthly payments even though I could pay them off today. But that's because I find better value investing in the stock market. Especially right now, since we're down a little bit this week. I'm just like, let's go. We're down. Invest. I love that.

• 45:03Speaker 05

It's scary though, cuz I. The longer we're in the market, the better. And right now is like the best time to get in.

• 45:13Caleb Hammer?

Absolutely. If it's down, take advantage of it. I know I love nothing more than a down day, other than a down week, other than a down month, other than a down year. That means it's money to be made.

• 45:24Speaker 05

Yeah, um, we're, I'm in the process of getting my retirement moved over to Schwab because if we're.

• 45:30Caleb Hammer?

Retirement, buddy. Listen, you said it's impossible to complete a degree. We proved that incorrect. But then you said it's horrible to take out student loans, but you couldn't actually say why. And you don't know anything about student loans. You, as we go through this conversation, I'm gonna have a hard time. Genuinely, just between me and you, I'm gonna have a hard time because you don't see yourself anything else in this life other than a victim. And I don't know how to deal with that. When someone is a victim in everything.

• 46:01Speaker 05

I am avoiding creating problems for myself down the road.

• 46:06Caleb Hammer?

Lots of people take out student loans and they do okay. Forty percent of people take out student loans, don't graduate from college. Don't be that person. Graduate from college.

• 46:14Speaker 05

I'm going to be able to graduate from college without a dime in student loans.

• 46:19Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but you said you don't know if you can. You're afraid of the Department of Education going away.

• 46:24Speaker 05

Yeah, no, that's why we're going to Germany so I can finish my degree.

• 46:29Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 46:31Speaker 06

The, look, bottom line, I, I'm not super even in the belief that money should exist. So it's like, I have a hard time with-

• 46:40Caleb Hammer?

What are we doing here? That money should even exist? You're right. Let's go back to bartering, bartering skins for beer. And let me go ahead and skin an animal for my meal later today. What-

• 46:52Speaker 06

That's how I prefer things to be.

• 46:55Caleb Hammer?

Yes, life was so much better, especially for someone like you, a few hundred years ago.

• 47:01Speaker 06

  Fair.

• 47:01Caleb Hammer?

  Off.

• 47:02Speaker 06

  Fair.

• 47:03Caleb Hammer?

We're literally the best time to live in the entirety of humanity is-

• 47:08Speaker 06

In this present, I don't know about right this moment, that's kind of not, it's, I-

• 47:14Caleb Hammer?

I'm sure you could go back a couple of years, sure, but in general, in our lifetimes, us living, our life will be better statistically than any other human being's lives in terms of technological advancement that we have, the medical things that we have, the food that we can go eat, we can gorge ourselves on McDonald's. People couldn't do that 200 years ago, in terms of the fucking dopamine, in terms of we are in the best period of humanity.

• 47:42Speaker 06

  Companies weren't able to-

• 47:45Caleb Hammer?

  Oh boy.

• 47:46Speaker 05

Come on, we're from Portland, what do you expect?

• 47:48Caleb Hammer?

What have the poor little companies done to you?

• 47:50Speaker 06

Not to me, well, I mean, not to me specifically, but-

• 47:54Speaker 05

You've been hit by like, three layoffs.

• 47:55Speaker 06

I have been, that, that is true, but money allows companies to- Yeah, yeah, it, it was-

• 48:02Caleb Hammer?

  It sucks. You landed though.

• 48:04Speaker 05

  Like, he, he is consistently-

• 48:06Speaker 06

  I had to keep pivoting.

• 48:07Speaker 05

The best, or if not the best, one of the best employees in whatever position he's in, he made the position he's in now.

• 48:13Caleb Hammer?

The market clearly doesn't de- demand so, but we don't believe in the market at this table, so.

• 48:18Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 48:19Speaker 05

And he gets laid off anyways, so.

• 48:21Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, no, I've, I just, I don't value money and I haven't valued money most of my life, which is why he's the finance guy.

• 48:30Caleb Hammer?

Which is okay. I mean, you can live under a bridge if you want. You don't have to operate in society.

• 48:34Speaker 06

No, I just, I've tried to make enough money to sustain myself and in the past, like-

• 48:43Caleb Hammer?

But there's more to that than that. There's life you can go live that money provides.

• 48:46Speaker 05

  Yeah, that's what we do.

• 48:46Caleb Hammer?

  There's retirement, that's what you do. I don't-

• 48:49Speaker 05

No, no, we, we, uh, we live our life plenty.

• 48:52Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, we, we invest in enjoyable things in life for sure.

• 48:56Caleb Hammer?

You know what's wild? What's wild is people out there, and I'm gonna reiterate this again, I never talk about my town politics. And the reason is, actually, because a lot of people would just, I'm everywhere. I'm everywhere. I have-

• 49:12Speaker 05

  Sign language.

• 49:14Caleb Hammer?

Oh, for drink. I thought we were about to take a hit. Okay.

• 49:16Speaker 05

  No, no.

• 49:16Caleb Hammer?

  You were like-

• 49:17Speaker 05

  Water.

• 49:18Caleb Hammer?

Okay. Um, I was, like, I can fall all over the place, because I just try to go with what is true, and I will always change my opinion if there is new information. So I am everywhere. No one knows my politics. I'm a fucking ambiguous. I mean, I see a lot of-

• 49:32Speaker 05

  So you're a hypocrite.

• 49:33Caleb Hammer?

  Hypocrite?

• 49:34Speaker 05

Oh, yeah, yeah. You say one thing, and then you change your mind the next week.

• 49:38Caleb Hammer?

I will always be willing to change my mind if new information comes out, or if I learn new things. Not to do so would be a literal infant. What the fuck are you talking about? Hypocrite? That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life. You're not willing to change your opinion?

• 49:52Speaker 05

New information comes out all the time.

• 49:54Caleb Hammer?

Yes, and it's okay to change your opinion.

• 49:58Speaker 05

And then the next week, more information comes out, and you-

• 50:01Caleb Hammer?

And it's okay to change your opinion, yes, because you want to be correct. But you're not correct by just sitting there and being like, "I'm correct." You're correct when the data, facts, whatever is in your side. What the fuck are you talking about? Either way, all I'm saying, all I'm saying is, what I was trying to say is that no one can place me. People have tried to place me, but they're never correct. However, based on this conversation, talking to you two, I probably sound like the most conservative person that has ever existed in the history of this world, because you guys are so far gone.

• 50:33Speaker 05

  You should see his parents.

• 50:35Speaker 06

  Yeah, that's, yeah.

• 50:38Caleb Hammer?

  So.

• 50:40Caleb Hammer?

  Definitely an interesting conversation.

• 50:42Speaker 05

Anyways, uh, we need, we need 12 grand, uh, by September. That's when we're, we're getting out of here.

• 50:49Caleb Hammer?

Good thing we don't believe in money.

• 50:52Speaker 05

  I believe in money.

• 50:54Speaker 06

He goes on and on about how money is a tool and you can use it to-

• 50:59Caleb Hammer?

Which means you would know that student loans can be used as a tool if used correctly.

• 51:03Speaker 05

  Yeah, if used correctly.

• 51:05Caleb Hammer?

So use them correctly and not like a dumb-

• 51:07Speaker 05

It's safer for me not to get student loans.

• 51:10Caleb Hammer?

Sure, it's safer to not have loans, but I mean, you have to get accepted in this whole program, so I hope you do, I guess.

• 51:18Speaker 05

Uh, I mean, even if I, even if we go over on work visas, uh, while there, I can still wait for the university, uh, application process. And there's more than one university over there that I've applied to, so one of them will-

• 51:32Caleb Hammer?

Would you have it heard back by anyone?

• 51:33Speaker 05

  No, they-

• 51:33Caleb Hammer?

  It's a very confident will.

• 51:35Speaker 06

Well, it has been really recent. We, um-

• 51:39Speaker 05

Yeah, we got this process started, uh, like six months ago. Uh, but Germany takes forever for pretty much everything.

• 51:45Caleb Hammer?

  And can you speak German?

• 51:46Speaker 05

I speak a little bit. He's teaching me a lot.

• 51:48Caleb Hammer?

Will they all be in German?

• 51:49Speaker 05

No, no. Um, German universities, uh, a lot of them teach specific degrees in English.

• 51:55Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 51:56Speaker 05

Um, and so you don't need to have a German language proficiency.

• 51:59Caleb Hammer?

That's probably, that's probably trying to get qualified individuals to go there since they've lost the ball.

• 52:04Speaker 05

Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, for my computer science degree, they teach that in, uh, in English.

• 52:10Caleb Hammer?

  So, USAA!

• 52:13Caleb Hammer?

  What's this?

• 52:14Speaker 06

  That would be mine.

• 52:15Caleb Hammer?

Oh, okay. So last one's yours. This one's yours. We're not authorized users or anything?

• 52:21Speaker 06

Uh, this was the card that I used primarily before, uh, we were together.

• 52:26Caleb Hammer?

So this doesn't exist because it's fake, right?

• 52:31Speaker 05

That one, we've mostly been focused on paying it down. We don't put too much on it. We put most of our expenses on the travel card because we get most of our miles from that.

• 52:43Speaker 06

As soon as I moved in, I basically stopped spending money on that card.

• 52:48Speaker 05

I think we just use it for breakfast at work now, right?

• 52:52Speaker 06

We were for a while. I don't know if we've been using it for work.

• 52:57Speaker 05

  He's sitting in silence.

• 53:02Speaker 05

So, let's see, yeah, we, we put most of our money on that, on that travel card, the, the big $8,000 expense, even though we, we paid most of that.

• 53:14Speaker 05

  Because we, we like to-

• 53:16Caleb Hammer?

Sorry, I had to fact check myself earlier because I like gave a statistic, but I was like, wasn't super confident in it because I haven't studied it in a second since we, I did the other show.

• 53:28Caleb Hammer?

But they had 500,000 new immigrants come in with, with 40 million people in the population. Sorry, I thought it was gonna be a little less than I said.

• 53:35Speaker 06

  That's a lot.

• 53:35Caleb Hammer?

No, no, no, no, no, Canada. That's a lot when they have a housing shortage. It's a wild number. I mean, for 41 million, I mean, yeah, that's pretty intense.

• 53:47Caleb Hammer?

That is crazy. I don't know how you do that with a population shortage.

• 53:50Speaker 05

Well, it's a good thing we're going to Germany.

• 53:53Caleb Hammer?

I just had to fact check myself. Sorry, that was eating me up. Okay, sorry, what were you saying?

• 53:58Speaker 05

Uh, I was just saying that we, we enjoy the finer things in life. Um, we-

• 54:03Caleb Hammer?

  What?

• 54:04Speaker 05

Yeah, so i- in our budget, we have-

• 54:06Caleb Hammer?

So you guys deserve all the good stuff, just not to work for it?

• 54:08Speaker 05

No, we work for it. We set aside amounts in our budget so that we can go and do these things.

• 54:14Speaker 06

And, and education in Germany means I can afford an education so that I can afford to get a job.

• 54:19Speaker 05

Yeah, this is planning for our future.

• 54:21Caleb Hammer?

I was saying the $12,000 in student loans is what's holding back. That's not even true. The, the median person's cost of 40,000 dollars in student loans that graduates with college. So, 12,000-

• 54:32Speaker 05

We have to get to Germany by September.

• 54:35Speaker 06

  Yeah, it's the time crunch.

• 54:36Speaker 05

By September. The, uh, the next school year starts in October.

• 54:39Caleb Hammer?

I know, but you, but you said you couldn't go to college because you have 12,000 dollars in student loans. Here.

• 54:45Speaker 06

That's why I wasn't willing to go to college here.

• 54:49Caleb Hammer?

  That doesn't make any sense.

• 54:50Speaker 05

He spent 12 grand and didn't get much out of it.

• 54:52Caleb Hammer?

Don't be a dumb f*** next time. Go into it with a responsible plan. That's your problem.

• 54:57Speaker 05

But you're looking at 12 grand in student loans and more if we go to community college here versus the 300 euros.

• 55:04Caleb Hammer?

That's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying you saying you can't do it is incorrect.

• 55:10Speaker 05

  Semantics.

• 55:15Caleb Hammer?

What are you trying to do? Are you gonna go on to like, uh, Destiny Next and debate? Like, what are we doing here? What are we do- what are- why are you here?

• 55:25Speaker 05

We're here so that you can give us a budget so that we can go to Germany.

• 55:28Caleb Hammer?

Use the f***ing budgeting app then. Just use the budgeting app. Just f***ing download some good budget, create a f***ing budget to catch your accounts that'll tell you what you spent.

• 55:36Speaker 05

  I already have- I already have a budget. I've got a spreadsheet.

• 55:39Caleb Hammer?

Then why? What are you- what are we doing?

• 55:42Speaker 05

You need to squeeze blood from this stone so that we can have the money we need, uh, by the time we leave.

• 55:51Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, well, we have USAA.

• 55:53Speaker 05

We, uh, we put a crap ton each month into our debt, uh, but we're trying to get savings.

• 55:59Caleb Hammer?

But you spend a lot on it too. You put 1,474 towards it, which you spent 745. So it's like, the balance didn't go down that much even though you put 1,474 towards it.

• 56:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 56:11Caleb Hammer?

It's all f***ing Mexican food, Mexican food. Cafe, liquor, cafe, cafe, cafe, cafe. Cafe McDonald's, cafe McDonald's, going in, getting some bullshit from the gas station McDonald's, Mexican food McDonald's, O'Walla. Come on, guys, this is your fucking, you're just- I know what a f***ing O'Walla is. Oh my gosh, Tap House, Shaliza's House, uh, winning, got some bull- and Creepage Dun. Creepage Dun? Nah, I don't fucking know. Whatever. You spent a lot of money there. It looks like a restaurant. Wendy's, McDonald's, some bullshit.

• 56:48Speaker 05

  It's not all Wendy's and McDonald's.

• 56:50Caleb Hammer?

  It's all f***ing bullshit.

• 56:51Speaker 05

We- we go to- we go to good restaurants, uh, quite.

• 56:54Caleb Hammer?

I don't give a f***. You don't have money and you refuse to actually spend for things that benefit your life. You just run away.

• 57:02Speaker 07

  Bonjour, compadre. It's the

• 57:06Speaker 07

How do I negotiate so many great travel deals? My greatest gadget, the Priceline app. It's got hotel deals, flight deals, rental car deals, all of those deals in a bundle. Deals, game day deals, concert trip deals. No one deals more deals than Priceline. Hold your horses, there's more. The app lets you filter hotels by neighborhood, vibe, star level, and amenities like pools and spas and beachfronts. Wait, I'm not done. Stop cutting me off.

• 57:32Caleb Hammer?

  I don't know.

• 57:34Speaker 05

I'm not willing to take the risk.

• 57:35Caleb Hammer?

And you know, I know, one of the big reasons, I'm gonna do another America versus Europe thing for a second. Um, I know Europe is more left economically, but typically, the United States has been more left socially. Historically, yes.

• 57:50Speaker 05

Germany's very forgiving and very left-leaning.

• 57:52Speaker 06

It depends on where you are, but yeah.

• 57:56Speaker 05

  Social stuff.

• 57:56Caleb Hammer?

But that is historically, the United States is pretty liberal.

• 58:00Speaker 05

If you're in any of the big cities in Germany, uh, which we would be.

• 58:03Speaker 06

  The scale is tipping.

• 58:04Caleb Hammer?

You're in fucking Portland. Where do you guys think you are?

• 58:09Speaker 05

No, we're, we're leaving for the education purposes and we're staying in the big cities in Germany for, uh, the, I mean, it's gonna be practically the same environment here.

• 58:19Speaker 06

The hope is that we will be able to return to America eventually. Uh, once we have better educations and we're on better footing. Um, in the event that...

• 58:31Caleb Hammer?

  So you wanna come back?

• 58:33Speaker 06

Oh, yeah. We would like to.

• 58:34Caleb Hammer?

  We went in for what?

• 58:35Speaker 05

  Uh, after my degree, after...

• 58:38Caleb Hammer?

So we're going there just to get the degree? But I mean, unlike social policies, obviously there's like health insurance and stuff like that.

• 58:44Speaker 06

You're right, historically, we were doing pretty good, but now we're kind of regressing. At least, the forecast into the future doesn't look super hot for that.

• 58:54Speaker 05

Uh, the, I mean, gay, like, abortion was repealed, gay marriage is on the docket to, uh, to end up in the Supreme Court's, um... I guess on their docket as well.

• 59:05Caleb Hammer?

  I haven't seen that challenge.

• 59:06Speaker 05

Oh, yeah, yeah, that's that's coming up in the next few months. It's in the lower courts right now.

• 59:12Speaker 05

And so us being gay married, don't want that, don't want that nullified.

• 59:18Speaker 06

Most of the legislation is in lower courts.

• 59:20Caleb Hammer?

Does the court see you guys as gay married?

• 59:23Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, yeah, cuz I'm legally a man, like all my documentation says that I am.

• 59:29Caleb Hammer?

  Even with the new stuff?

• 59:30Speaker 05

Yeah, even with the new stuff.

• 59:33Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 59:33Speaker 06

The new stuff currently bars you from renewing your your documents and getting new stuff.

• 59:40Caleb Hammer?

And then what would the court say about the marriage?

• 59:42Speaker 06

It would probably say that like when I went to go renew my passport or my ID or anything, there would probably be like it wouldn't go through. So I'd I'd have to.

• 59:52Speaker 05

  It's a whole bunch of.

• 59:54Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 59:54Speaker 05

  Mess. It's a big mess.

• 59:55Speaker 06

What it means right now is that anyone who had like the original, uh, the like a different gender marker on their identification documents. When they go to renew, like an error is gonna come up. It's they're gonna say that they can't go through with your renewal. Because your documents don't line up.

• 1:00:18Speaker 05

Yeah, so we're we're getting out. We're waiting for term to be over.

• 1:00:22Caleb Hammer?

Why do you want to come back, though?

• 1:00:24Speaker 05

  I am a.

• 1:00:25Speaker 06

  We're hopeful.

• 1:00:26Caleb Hammer?

  So anti America.

• 1:00:27Speaker 05

No, no, no, you you mistake me. I am so very pro America. But we are not in the positions right now to do any sort of effective action to change it. Go to Germany.

• 1:00:41Caleb Hammer?

Not that you're willing to do. You wouldn't apply for one scholarship and you think student loans are the most evil thing ever created in the history of the world, even though a lot of people use them and end up in a better position. I mean, you haven't put in any work.

• 1:00:51Speaker 05

I've put in plenty of work, thank you very much.

• 1:00:53Caleb Hammer?

You're showing up to a job, but you haven't actually put in the effort. You just complain and then pretend like you're a victim and everything. That's what you've done from this conversation so far. And then, by the way, you then just go spend all your money on bullshit. Like, here it is. I have it. It's all. Well, nothing.

• 1:01:08Speaker 05

  There's some good restaurants.

• 1:01:09Caleb Hammer?

A hundred fifty dollar bottle of wine for a dinner.

• 1:01:12Speaker 05

  It's good. It's great.

• 1:01:13Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:14Speaker 05

  It's good wine.

• 1:01:15Caleb Hammer?

Guys, I can't pay for college. Hundred fifty dollar bottle of wine.

• 1:01:17Speaker 05

No, no, no. It was for his birthday. That was for his birthday.

• 1:01:19Caleb Hammer?

Happy birthday. Get a degree. I don't give a shit.

• 1:01:21Speaker 05

  No, no, no.

• 1:01:22Caleb Hammer?

Birthdays are nothing. Who gives a f- how will we better our lives? I don't care. Not gonna coddle you. I don't give a f- You turned twenty-four. It's an insignificant birthday.

• 1:01:30Speaker 06

It was a significant birthday for me.

• 1:01:32Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 1:01:33Speaker 05

Most of his birthdays have been, uh, not so much about him.

• 1:01:36Speaker 06

  Historically very sh-

• 1:01:38Caleb Hammer?

Congratulations. Have a good one in two years. We're adults. I don't give a f- You're just trying to live a better life. Doesn't mean you have to spoil yourself now and delay everything and then run away.

• 1:01:48Speaker 05

No, no, no. You can f- and play at the same time. You don't need to just work.

• 1:01:52Caleb Hammer?

When you're in a better place, you're not.

• 1:01:55Speaker 05

Uh, we're pretty good right now.

• 1:01:57Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, and that's why you have to run in order to go to college.

• 1:02:01Speaker 05

Uh, if F- if FAFSA's still around, I can stick to the, uh, to the online school. And, uh, and still complete my degree.

• 1:02:09Caleb Hammer?

Caleb here, and I gotta say, I've tried a lot of earbuds that hurt my ears or made me wonder how they could possibly be. Five hundred forty-nine dollars for something so mid. Enter Raycon's everyday earbuds. They come in a bunch of cool colors, and my favorite is forest green, matching my office vibes. And the fit is so ergonomic, I sometimes forget they're in. They've got active noise cancellation. Blacking out my neighbor's barking dog, or when I'm outside and the protective case cover is wirelessly charging friendly. So I don't even unplug it to power up. Plus, these babies start at just half the cost of those high-end brands.

• 1:02:51Caleb Hammer?

Wanna see it for yourself? Go to buyraycon.com slash Caleb Hammer to get twenty percent off the fan favorite everyday earbuds. If you somehow aren't happy, they have a thirty-day happiness guarantee, so there's zero risk. Seriously, you'll thank me when your ears stop hurting and your wallet's not empty. I mean, was that allocated via Congress for spending? If it is, then an executive order can't take that away.

• 1:03:15Speaker 06

For now, yeah. When they, so...

• 1:03:18Speaker 05

But like, they just laid off half the Department of Education.

• 1:03:21Caleb Hammer?

I know, and that'll likely be challenged by, in court, for what we've seen.

• 1:03:25Speaker 05

  Yeah, okay.

• 1:03:26Caleb Hammer?

I mean, they just revoked the-

• 1:03:27Speaker 05

I don't want my education being in limbo at the whim of a court.

• 1:03:33Caleb Hammer?

Sure, your education paid for by somebody else.

• 1:03:36Speaker 05

Yeah. I pay into the same systems that I am currently taking out.

• 1:03:40Caleb Hammer?

I highly doubt you net pay very much in taxes, net.

• 1:03:44Speaker 05

  Uh.

• 1:03:45Caleb Hammer?

  Net.

• 1:03:46Speaker 05

Let's see, for our last year, we

• 1:03:48Caleb Hammer?

  Highly doubt.

• 1:03:49Speaker 05

Got back fifteen hundred, but we, uh, we still paid like a very significant amount.

• 1:03:54Caleb Hammer?

Probably very small net. If anything, it's mostly social security, which you will eventually recoup.

• 1:03:58Speaker 05

I think we paid more greater than greater than fifteen grand in taxes.

• 1:04:05Speaker 05

  Joint.

• 1:04:05Caleb Hammer?

Okay, well, probably some state as well.

• 1:04:09Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, state and federal, but like we're paying.

• 1:04:12Speaker 06

Seems like a lot of taxes.

• 1:04:13Caleb Hammer?

  Did you file jointly?

• 1:04:14Speaker 05

Yeah, I, I did our taxes this year.

• 1:04:16Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, what?

• 1:04:17Speaker 06

  Well, did we file jointly?

• 1:04:18Speaker 05

  Yes, we filed jointly.

• 1:04:19Speaker 06

  Okay.

• 1:04:23Speaker 05

Yeah, um, us making, I, I think we make a little bit under eighty grand. Uh, we still paid like twenty-six percent

• 1:04:33Caleb Hammer?

  That's a little more than I thought.

• 1:04:37Caleb Hammer?

What, what, what income was filed? What did your, what did it say for the house?

• 1:04:42Speaker 05

Oh, uh, I don't remember. Um, but like

• 1:04:46Speaker 06

I had worked like quite a few jobs that year.

• 1:04:49Speaker 05

He, he worked a lot of jobs last year.

• 1:04:51Speaker 06

I'm really bad at doing my taxes.

• 1:04:53Caleb Hammer?

  Thousand dollars?

• 1:04:54Speaker 05

Uh, that's, that's our current joint income right now. Um, but yeah, so I filed our taxes this year. Last year I filed my taxes and his taxes. Um, and, and helped him with his previous year's taxes. He, he's, he's got a, he's got a thing with taxes. He doesn't like paying taxes.

• 1:05:12Speaker 06

I really hate doing taxes. I've had, I've worked like

• 1:05:16Caleb Hammer?

  Money taken away.

• 1:05:17Speaker 06

Multiple jobs for quite a few years now, and so tracking down all those W2s is a nightmare.

• 1:05:25Speaker 05

Yeah, he just straight up didn't pay his twenty-two taxes.

• 1:05:28Caleb Hammer?

  Oh.

• 1:05:29Speaker 05

So I, I had to help him for many painstaking hours, get all of the documents.

• 1:05:35Caleb Hammer?

  Taxes, did you say?

• 1:05:36Speaker 05

Uh, probably somewhere in the ballpark of fifteen, fifteen to twenty.

• 1:05:40Caleb Hammer?

It would have been about closer to nine for federal for you, but I'm sure you got Oregon

• 1:05:45Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:05:46Caleb Hammer?

  Pretty hard.

• 1:05:46Speaker 05

  Oregon income taxes is brutal.

• 1:05:50Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 1:05:50Speaker 05

Yeah, or Oregon income taxes brutal. We don't have state tax or, or sales tax, that's what it is. We don't have sales tax. But the, the income taxes is brutal. I I think my spreadsheet says we pay like twenty six percent in taxes split between federal and state.

• 1:06:09Speaker 06

It always looks like a huge chunk.

• 1:06:11Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:06:12Caleb Hammer?

  It absolutely is, however.

• 1:06:15Caleb Hammer?

You know, I mean, it was an effective tax rate with Oregon being combined of about nineteen point four percent.

• 1:06:23Speaker 05

That's probably because you weren't like, all of your different jobs were different wages until you got on.

• 1:06:28Speaker 06

Well, and I also like never worked forty hours a week because my job's always.

• 1:06:33Speaker 05

  Prior to getting.

• 1:06:33Caleb Hammer?

However, in Germany, if you make that same income, you'll be instead of nineteen percent, it'll be thirty two point nine percent. So I hope you love paying taxes.

• 1:06:41Speaker 05

I I am, I will happily pay taxes if they're going to valid.

• 1:06:46Speaker 06

  Yeah, I can.

• 1:06:47Speaker 05

I will pay taxes until the cows come home if they're there to benefit the schools around me.

• 1:06:53Caleb Hammer?

Both sides of the economic system, left and right, a lot of sides think that they're gonna have to cut back on a lot of that stuff if they have to start investing more in their defense. If the United States doesn't invest in their defense as much, as that's hardly even politics. You hear a bit more of that on the right, but economists on both sides agree that if the United States stops spending as much in defense there, which the current administration doesn't want to spend much in defense there, Germany will then have to fund more in defense as it essentially runs Europe.

• 1:07:21Speaker 05

  Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:07:22Caleb Hammer?

Which means less of your tax dollars will be going to those things you like there, or they have to raise taxes even more.

• 1:07:28Speaker 05

  I will also.

• 1:07:28Caleb Hammer?

I'm very curious to see what's gonna happen.

• 1:07:29Speaker 05

I will also pay taxes for defense if it's going towards.

• 1:07:32Caleb Hammer?

But that might mean things, the things that you care about might be cut and or you're gonna have to pay more for college. Or that'll just be borrowed and borrowed and borrowed. I don't know.

• 1:07:41Speaker 05

Until, until the tuition of Germany goes from three hundred euros per.

• 1:07:45Caleb Hammer?

Until things change, but you guys are running.

• 1:07:46Speaker 06

  We'll go somewhere else.

• 1:07:47Caleb Hammer?

Until things change, but you guys are running away from something right now with the anticipation of it to change. Why not?

• 1:07:52Speaker 05

It's not anticipation. Things are already changing here.

• 1:07:55Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but most of the things you said, it's like the anticipation of it.

• 1:07:58Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, well, I.

• 1:08:00Caleb Hammer?

But I guess that doesn't apply.

• 1:08:01Speaker 05

In planning for the future, I don't want to leave my future up to chance. So we're doing the secure thing.

• 1:08:05Caleb Hammer?

So the same applies there then with potential higher taxes or.

• 1:08:10Speaker 05

Unless Germany goes from three hundred a semester to seventeen divided by two.

• 1:08:16Caleb Hammer?

I don't really know. That's not the only thing. Again, I'm not against that. It's your philosophy that I'm trying to. Bring down here a little bit because you're a lot of run because right now is impossible here. Whereas that's incorrect, like the student loans, like look at your spending. A lot of that could be going towards college. Student loans, not the worst thing in the world if you do it correctly.

• 1:08:40Speaker 05

It's the, so we also just had

• 1:08:43Caleb Hammer?

Going to Germany, Germany is a great country, I've been there.

• 1:08:46Speaker 05

We just had a round of layoffs at our current position.

• 1:08:49Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:49Speaker 05

Uh, and we, we survived those thankfully.

• 1:08:52Speaker 06

  Surprisingly.

• 1:08:53Speaker 05

I don't want to put myself in debt, um, with the

• 1:08:59Caleb Hammer?

Layoffs will always be a possibility.

• 1:09:01Speaker 05

Yeah, I know, and I'm, I'm just, I'm worried about that. I'm afraid of that and I don't want to do student loans.

• 1:09:06Caleb Hammer?

  That's what it's for.

• 1:09:07Speaker 05

Yeah, we're working on that. We're, we're currently at one month.

• 1:09:10Caleb Hammer?

  On Germany or?

• 1:09:11Speaker 05

No, the, the emergency fund. We've got one month of all of our bills and savings. And, uh, and every month I just throw that into the bills account and then, um, we build that, that up again and we, we build more than a month's worth at a time.

• 1:09:27Caleb Hammer?

Do you own your student loans right now? Or are they deferment?

• 1:09:30Speaker 05

  No, they're on deferred.

• 1:09:31Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:09:31Caleb Hammer?

You, okay, they're on deferment or you're in like save, which is being challenged in court?

• 1:09:36Speaker 05

Uh, they're on deferment right now through the save thing, but it, um, the

• 1:09:42Caleb Hammer?

Well, we don't know what's gonna happen to that.

• 1:09:44Speaker 05

Yeah, he's got a message saying that things are gonna have to start being paid in a couple of months here.

• 1:09:49Caleb Hammer?

Hmm, maybe there was a court decision that I'm not aware of.

• 1:09:52Speaker 05

Yeah, uh, but we're, we're still waiting on that.

• 1:09:55Speaker 06

Yeah, it looks like, uh, it's

• 1:09:57Speaker 05

But e- even with, uh, having to pay it, it's such a small amount each month that, um, we're like, is it even worth it to pay it? Cause, uh, if we're in, if we're in Germany, the foreign income

• 1:10:09Caleb Hammer?

But you want to come back.

• 1:10:10Speaker 05

Yeah, we want to come back, but

• 1:10:12Caleb Hammer?

You're gonna come back in under 10 years?

• 1:10:13Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 1:10:14Caleb Hammer?

Well, even still, I don't think the federal government's gonna forget.

• 1:10:17Speaker 05

No, no, they're not going to forget. It's not a Sally Mae loan thankfully. It's just, uh, it's just the federal loan. But, um, the federal income tax credit means he's not going to have to, like his, his monthly payment on it is going to be zero.

• 1:10:32Speaker 05

Uh, while we're over there and then when we come back, we'll just. Like, so, we're going to be living and working in Germany while I'm going to school, he's going to be working when I finish, um, I'm going to be working and he's going to get as much of his, uh, his degree out of the way as possible. And, um, in that time-

• 1:10:52Caleb Hammer?

Can we get a better degree though, please?

• 1:10:53Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, I want him to get the auditing degree.

• 1:10:56Caleb Hammer?

Do you wanna get the auditing degree?

• 1:10:57Speaker 06

I really like the auditing. I'm a little worried about me and numbers, but like-

• 1:11:04Speaker 05

Yeah, we spend a bit more than a thousand a month-

• 1:11:06Caleb Hammer?

The things we talk about on the show are actually really not that complicated. It's like, you could learn this in like a month, if you wanted to.

• 1:11:13Speaker 05

Yeah, he, he, prior, uh, prior to this, he spent like a couple of weeks just playing with Excel, going through an online course on that.

• 1:11:21Caleb Hammer?

Excel's a great tool. I mean, we're gonna put you through all four of our courses, so go through those, take the quizzes together, highly recommend it. Uh, they're bundled together for thirty percent off for you guys, if you get them all. But again, more than anything, I recommend going through, uh, just downloading the Super Budget app, since you guys are connected on all that stuff. Input everything, build out your categories, use the automatic connections, use the community chat in there, hold yourselves accountable. It's like the best, best thing you can get.

• 1:11:46Speaker 05

Yeah, with, uh, with twelve thousand euros saved up, by the time we're done with Germany and we come back, um, we should still have most of that twelve thousand euros, because we're going to be working, uh, most of the time that we're in Germany. Um, so then we'll just come back and throw that, uh, the, the euros back into dollars and throw them at his, his student loans and we'll just be done.

• 1:12:09Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:12:11Speaker 05

So, for the student loans, I'm not super worried. I don't, I don't really think we should pay them. Um, so that just leaves the, the rest of our debt to work through, which we're, we're throwing, uh, like forty percent of our, our income at right now. The rest of it going to bills and then a little bit to savings.

• 1:12:32Speaker 07

  It's me, the.

• 1:12:36Speaker 07

We don't need the jingle twice. Stop it. This is about vacation inflation and how Priceline negotiates amazing deals on hotels, flights and rental cars.

• 1:12:47Speaker 07

Yeah, but I didn't mention that you can save up to 60% off hotels in the Priceline app.

• 1:12:53Speaker 07

Fine. No one deals more deals than. Please stop. Touche.

• 1:13:00Speaker 07

  Priceline.

• 1:13:00Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:13:01Caleb Hammer?

Well, for what's worth, you probably have a better chance in Germany finding that employment. Their unemployment rate is like 6% or something, or the average in Europe is something like 13% for people under 30. No, their economies are not good. That is like an actual factual thing. So, but you should, I think you'll be fine in Germany. I'm glad you guys said Germany because out of many of the European countries, that is like where they're at least like doing.

• 1:13:26Speaker 05

We looked at, we looked at a few countries.

• 1:13:27Caleb Hammer?

Innovation or they're competing against China or the United States.

• 1:13:31Speaker 05

They've got special visas for IT professionals and that's like if, if the education route is just taking too long, because you know, you've got lead times in visa processing applications, something like that, then we're just going to go with the IT work visa and I'm.

• 1:13:47Caleb Hammer?

IT work visa? Well, that makes me a little nervous because the United States innovates.

• 1:13:52Speaker 05

Our, our tech industry right now is miserable.

• 1:13:57Caleb Hammer?

It's, it's really difficult. It's really difficult right now.

• 1:14:00Speaker 05

  I've got a buddy.

• 1:14:00Caleb Hammer?

But you know, you know, that's closer to a normal job market though, right? Like we've had like the best job market for tech in the history of ever, over these last four years. We're closer to just normal and it's difficult. It is difficult, but it becomes more competitive in a normal market. That's what happens.

• 1:14:15Speaker 05

The percentage of our unemployed workers is disproportionately unemployed tech workers.

• 1:14:23Caleb Hammer?

  In Portland?

• 1:14:24Speaker 06

Like, all we hear about is people getting laid off.

• 1:14:27Speaker 05

  Silicon Valley, stuff like that.

• 1:14:30Caleb Hammer?

Tech is hard. We all know tech is hard right now. That is absolutely true. But you have to remember, it's also coming from a place where three, four years ago, literally, anyone could walk in and get like a six-figure job at tech. It's, it's, it's a different world. It's having probably an overcorrection, it'll probably balance out.

• 1:14:47Speaker 05

With the German IT work visa, part of their application process is pairing you with industries over there to sponsor you for, for the tech positions that they have available.

• 1:14:58Caleb Hammer?

So you have to do that, too?

• 1:15:00Speaker 05

Uh, no, that's, that's, that's if the university, yeah. That's if I need a work visa.

• 1:15:04Speaker 06

And when I looked at, they have a lot of resources online for finding jobs in Germany. They even have websites that you can look at for specifically finding jobs that, where they're like looking for people who are in.

• 1:15:20Caleb Hammer?

I get it. In tech, in tech, the United States unemployment in tech is 3.3%. It's 6.2 in Germany. So it is double unemployment in Germany for tech. Remember, they don't have an overly competitive tech market in Europe, across Europe. They do, of course, have a tech market, but compared to the United States or Southeast Asia, they really don't. That's not a big sector they've really cared about. They more care about making sure the lids on your water bottles don't disconnect. I guess that's more critical than people having jobs. But, yeah, I get it. And I hope you get the job. The unemployment rate is double in the tech sector there, from what I could find.

• 1:15:59Speaker 05

For the, like, sure, the unemployment rate could be crazy, but for the, for the visa program, this is direct, like, hey, we want you, you're a qualified individual, here's a list of jobs.

• 1:16:10Caleb Hammer?

What kind of pay range are we talking?

• 1:16:12Speaker 05

Uh, Germany, their pay range is roughly half of, of what we make here, but their cost of living is like.

• 1:16:18Caleb Hammer?

I know, but if you're planning to come back, that makes it difficult.

• 1:16:20Speaker 05

  It does.

• 1:16:21Caleb Hammer?

Okay, what is this $600 owed to Elliot's mom?

• 1:16:25Speaker 06

Uh, not my mom. Uh, that's my ex-fiance's mom.

• 1:16:29Caleb Hammer?

Oh, my. How was your relationship with your ex-fiance?

• 1:16:33Speaker 06

Uh, with my ex-fiance, not good.

• 1:16:36Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 1:16:37Speaker 06

  Just.

• 1:16:39Caleb Hammer?

  Did you guys cheat?

• 1:16:40Speaker 06

  No, no.

• 1:16:42Speaker 05

And I was not into dudes at the time of their breakup.

• 1:16:45Speaker 06

Yeah. Uh, it was like we had moved in and we spent a month living together and that was a nightmare for both of us. And then, uh, that kind of fell apart and she's like, let's still be friends. And I was like, I don't think that's gonna work out and it definitely didn't. We have not messaged each other since, uh, other than like little passive aggressive comments.

• 1:17:07Speaker 05

But the debt is because for part of, uh, that you were living.

• 1:17:11Speaker 06

I lived with my ex fiance's mom's house because me and my little brother were living at my ex fiance's mom's house. Because, um, our parents, uh, sold the house underneath us and we had to find a place to live.

• 1:17:24Speaker 05

  Yeah, his parents, uh.

• 1:17:25Caleb Hammer?

How long have you been ours trans?

• 1:17:27Speaker 06

Uh, since I was like 15.

• 1:17:31Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so when you guys met, you identified as.

• 1:17:33Speaker 06

  Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:35Speaker 05

I did not meet him as anything other than Elliot.

• 1:17:39Caleb Hammer?

Okay, uh, is that all the debt? It's just those four debts? Wow, all that for four debts. You guys are in a much better position than like 90% of the people on this show. And guess what? The majority of them make progress, but of course you guys can't, because the system's against us.

• 1:17:56Speaker 05

  We're, um.

• 1:17:59Speaker 05

But when, uh, when Elliot moved in.

• 1:18:02Caleb Hammer?

  Yes, what?

• 1:18:03Speaker 05

When Elliot, uh, moved in, we were, uh, we, we have two cars. So we're gonna get rid of one of those to take care of the, a good chunk of the debt.

• 1:18:13Speaker 06

Yeah, we don't need three cars.

• 1:18:14Caleb Hammer?

Well, we don't own the cars?

• 1:18:16Speaker 05

Uh, no, we don't own the cars. I own my car outright. He owns.

• 1:18:19Caleb Hammer?

So this is a checking account and it's all just bull, it's going and getting some bull, like Goodwill. It's a little hard to tell. You never really know. You can get knickknacks. You can get clothes and whatever. PayPal and out, PayPal and out, Venmo and out, Craigslist, PayPal and out, getting some bullshit, PayPal out, PayPal out. What is all this PayPal out?

• 1:18:36Speaker 05

  Uh, paying roommates for stuff.

• 1:18:38Speaker 06

  Yeah, it's probably groceries.

• 1:18:40Caleb Hammer?

But I thought they all gave to you, you said?

• 1:18:42Speaker 06

  Well, sometimes they shop too.

• 1:18:43Speaker 05

  Yeah, sometimes they shop.

• 1:18:47Caleb Hammer?

PayPal and sent to 98 then went out $2 then went out $10. Cotton Bureau.

• 1:18:56Caleb Hammer?

I don't know what that is.

• 1:18:57Speaker 05

  I don't remember.

• 1:19:00Caleb Hammer?

  And. Let's see.

• 1:19:06Speaker 05

Yeah. Oh, that's a, that's the, that's the fun money account.

• 1:19:10Caleb Hammer?

  Fun money account?

• 1:19:12Speaker 05

Yeah, I, I budgeted out for, for us. So that's my fun.

• 1:19:15Caleb Hammer?

Oh, it's real fun because you're overdrafting. You're overdrafting.

• 1:19:19Speaker 05

  I'm pulling from savings.

• 1:19:21Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, it immediately pulled from it because you didn't have enough. Good job. You're taking from savings for fun, for fun spending. When an upstanding individual. We're really going to survive. Guys, it's the system. It's not our responsibility. Winning got some bull to Craigslist PayPal out overdraft Amazon PayPal out PayPal out PayPal out. My.

• 1:19:46Caleb Hammer?

That's one fun spending, keeping you away from getting into Germany quicker. Um, the crazy thing is, again, I've sounded so anti Europe. I love Germany. Germany's a great place. I enjoyed visiting Germany. And I hope to again at some point.

• 1:20:03Speaker 05

  I love Germany.

• 1:20:04Caleb Hammer?

  Great place.

• 1:20:05Speaker 05

Yeah. So what's the, what's the tax percentage down there? You'll, you'll see the at a glance.

• 1:20:10Caleb Hammer?

Probably withholding, but remember you got to return.

• 1:20:12Speaker 05

  Hmm. That's fair. That's fair.

• 1:20:15Caleb Hammer?

Plus there's also social security, which you will get back.

• 1:20:18Speaker 05

Maybe. Yeah, I hope there's anything left for us. Geez. Unfortunately, our job doesn't do any, uh, our, as contractors, um, there's no 401k matching.

• 1:20:28Caleb Hammer?

  Sure. That's fine. Yeah.

• 1:20:33Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, it's basically exactly what we just said. Uh, but of course you get some back.

• 1:20:38Speaker 05

Yeah, we, we do get some back.

• 1:20:40Caleb Hammer?

  Okay. A bill accounts?

• 1:20:44Speaker 05

Yeah, so that's uh, every month I

• 1:20:46Caleb Hammer?

Relay for Red, Living Writer, Netflix, Amazon, Amazon, Spotify.

• 1:20:53Speaker 05

  Those are

• 1:20:54Caleb Hammer?

  What are we doing here?

• 1:20:54Speaker 05

  Those are our subscriptions.

• 1:20:55Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:20:57Speaker 05

Uh, Spotify is an absolute must have.

• 1:20:59Caleb Hammer?

Regular savings, this is stuff going back and forth, back and forth.

• 1:21:02Speaker 05

Yeah, that's, that's a lot of back and forth.

• 1:21:05Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, there's your overdraft. I mean, savings, I mean, you, it went down from, was that down? No, that went up. Wait, did it? Yeah, it went up. What's in your sa- so 5,000 in savings?

• 1:21:16Speaker 05

  Mm-hmm. Yeah.

• 1:21:17Caleb Hammer?

  It's not bad.

• 1:21:18Speaker 05

Uh, our, our monthly bills is somewhere

• 1:21:20Caleb Hammer?

I'd rather get you to a risk-free position by getting yourself out of debt instead of using it to fool you, but we're in such a weird situation. And you need about 12, well, 12,000 is what they recommend having saved.

• 1:21:32Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:21:32Caleb Hammer?

What do you need to actually move there?

• 1:21:34Speaker 05

Uh, 12,000 plus the, uh, the like plane tickets, which are not cheap.

• 1:21:41Speaker 06

And the cost of our lawyer.

• 1:21:42Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, the cost of our lawyer, which we, we already paid, uh, paid for, but we paid our immigration lawyer and he's taking care of the application and all of that stuff. Um, making sure all of our documents are correct.

• 1:21:56Caleb Hammer?

This is $404 in this USAA. ATM withdrawal, PayPal transfers, blah, blah, blah, Cafe ATM draw.

• 1:22:04Speaker 05

That's his Any, any ATM withdrawal of around $40 is gonna be his

• 1:22:10Caleb Hammer?

  Much more important than

• 1:22:12Speaker 06

I use my fun money for it. I, I don't spend outside

• 1:22:16Caleb Hammer?

Fun money? You're trying to get to Germany, you have bad debt and we can't afford to go to college. Where's fun money?

• 1:22:20Speaker 06

  It's like $50.

• 1:22:21Speaker 05

  It's $100.

• 1:22:25Speaker 05

Um, so 200 a month? So that we can enjoy our life. Like, like I said, you got, you can work and play at the same time.

• 1:22:34Caleb Hammer?

I agree. When you're not in a position of immense risk, you're also delaying and saying you can't do the things you need or want to do because of your financial position, but you're blowing money on fun. So much money. Like, that is your personal choice. You can make that choice. That's fine. You can walk out and I will fully just be like, okay with it. If you wanna live that life, that is okay. But the conversation at this table is

• 1:23:00Speaker 07

  Bonjour, compadre. It's the

• 1:23:04Speaker 07

How do I negotiate so many great travel deals? My greatest gadget, the Priceline app. It's got hotel deals, flight deals, rental car deals, all of those deals in a bundle. Deals, game day deals, concert trip deals. No one deals more deals than Priceline. Hold your horses, there's more. The app lets you filter hotels by neighborhood, vibe, star level, and amenities like pools and spas and beachfronts. Wait, I'm not done. Stop cutting me off.

• 1:23:30Caleb Hammer?

Is to usually go and meet the goals we're trying to get to and live a budget, budgeted life. Live a financially healthy life. You can live this life if you want. I don't give a [bleep], that's your choice. Live your choices. Everyone can make their own choices. I'm down with it.

• 1:23:48Caleb Hammer?

I'm of the spirit that anyone can do whatever the [bleep] they want to do unless it's smoking meth in a [bleep] subway. Like, do what you want to do. I don't care.

• 1:23:57Speaker 05

  Haven't gone that far.

• 1:23:58Caleb Hammer?

Do what you want to do. I don't care. That is you. I'll have sympathy, but do what you want to do. However, people come to this table to get to that better financial life, to take this [bleep] seriously. I, I don't know. To you, it's just like victim, victim, victim, victim. And not understanding the systems that you're even against. It's like...

• 1:24:21Caleb Hammer?

What is this, 2,600? Oh, it was taken out, so it doesn't matter.

• 1:24:24Speaker 05

Oh, that's a, that's rent each month, so.

• 1:24:27Caleb Hammer?

  15 shares of GameStop?

• 1:24:28Speaker 05

  We deposited it.

• 1:24:30Caleb Hammer?

  Well, what do we?

• 1:24:33Caleb Hammer?

Okay, this is some stock account. We have 15 shares of something.

• 1:24:36Speaker 05

Yeah, we got 15 shares of GameStop. Oh.

• 1:24:40Caleb Hammer?

Critical. That'll get us to Germany, okay.

• 1:24:43Speaker 05

Uh, I think we're up on that, actually.

• 1:24:46Caleb Hammer?

And then 1,200 in this retirement fund?

• 1:24:48Speaker 05

Yeah, we're, we're up quite a bit on that. That's nice. I got that at a very low, very low amount.

• 1:24:54Caleb Hammer?

  Wonderful.

• 1:24:58Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, oh. Budget.

• 1:25:01Speaker 05

  There it is.

• 1:25:03Speaker 05

  Right on top.

• 1:25:03Caleb Hammer?

Oh, no. I'm building a budget.

• 1:25:08Caleb Hammer?

I don't understand the point, because you have a budget. So if you have a budget, why don't Well, what am I doing?

• 1:25:13Speaker 05

You need to squeeze more blood from this stone.

• 1:25:15Caleb Hammer?

But you're not going to. You want to, oh, with my poor little wife.

• 1:25:19Speaker 05

It just can't be the fun money. Can't be that.

• 1:25:21Caleb Hammer?

  I don't know. I don't know if I have a budget. Can I have a budget?

• 1:25:26Caleb Hammer?

  Thank you.

• 1:25:27Speaker 05

Okay, that guy's, uh, that guy's right here.

• 1:25:30Caleb Hammer?

I just. Stupid, okay. Four thousand eight hundred comes in on a monthly basis. Was this a pointless conversation? If anything, I've just made people think I'm either far right or far left, based on whatever they heard and didn't like.

• 1:25:43Speaker 05

I mean, they're your words, Caleb.

• 1:25:45Caleb Hammer?

I know, but I just never gave any of, like, actual opinions. I've talked about Europe's economic system and our economic system, but it's just like, this is a dangerous conversation, because people hear that shit, and then they immediately think they know your entire ideology, which I guarantee you don't. Debt payments.

• 1:26:00Speaker 05

That sounds like a them problem.

• 1:26:03Caleb Hammer?

No, it's a me problem, because sometimes people get turned off when they think they know your politics.

• 1:26:10Speaker 05

I don't know. I'm okay with people knowing my politics, because I feel my politics.

• 1:26:14Caleb Hammer?

You have no impact on anything. You, like, you don't have a platform. No, nothing happens when people know your politics. What's your rent?

• 1:26:23Speaker 05

  Uh, thirteen hundred.

• 1:26:26Caleb Hammer?

  Utilities?

• 1:26:27Speaker 05

  Included in the rent.

• 1:26:28Caleb Hammer?

  Internet?

• 1:26:29Speaker 05

Uh, we pay twenty-two a person for that, so forty-four bucks.

• 1:26:34Caleb Hammer?

  I also don't have an ideology. I really don't.

• 1:26:38Caleb Hammer?

It's bad to have an ideology, in my opinion, because then all of a sudden, every opinion you have to have has to stem from the ideology, instead of trying to be open-minded about whatever realities that should come at you.

• 1:26:46Speaker 05

You can be open-minded with an ideology.

• 1:26:47Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but it immediately comes back to stemming from that. People have a hard time getting outside of their ideology, because it's such a core basis.

• 1:26:56Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:26:56Caleb Hammer?

And so I try to be ideology less. Now, that being said, I try to be more in the realm of like freedom. Like if I have to pick one, that's I tend to at least.

• 1:27:07Speaker 05

  Personal freedoms.

• 1:27:08Caleb Hammer?

Well, in general, just people doing whatever the, you know, what they want. Like I tend to glean that way if there's not hardcore facts on either side.

• 1:27:15Speaker 05

I'm a pretty big do what you want, as long as it's not hurting anyone.

• 1:27:17Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 1:27:18Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, gas, room, drive, drive.

• 1:27:20Speaker 05

Uh, fifty, uh, like twenty five bucks a month. We, uh, I, I drive hybrid.

• 1:27:27Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so our but utilities are included?

• 1:27:30Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:27:30Caleb Hammer?

It's a good deal. Phone bill?

• 1:27:31Speaker 05

  Uh, do you pay your?

• 1:27:35Speaker 06

  No, I, I don't pay a phone bill.

• 1:27:36Speaker 05

Okay, uh, my phone's paid off, uh, the.

• 1:27:39Caleb Hammer?

  But do you have coverage?

• 1:27:41Speaker 05

  It's the family plan. Um, I, I don't.

• 1:27:44Caleb Hammer?

  So you don't pay?

• 1:27:45Speaker 05

  No.

• 1:27:46Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, we can't pay for anything. Okay. TB fund, anything else you need to survive, two hundred, food, groceries, three hu- uh, six hundred, six hundred. Use the cookbook we have, you get that in the premium version, budgeting.

• 1:27:57Speaker 05

I'm just talking about that. I like cooking quite a bit.

• 1:27:59Caleb Hammer?

  Good.

  Yeah.

• 1:28:00Caleb Hammer?

Well, going out is eat as much as you do. I wouldn't have believed that.

• 1:28:03Speaker 05

  No, that's.

• 1:28:04Caleb Hammer?

Medical hair care costs on a monthly basis, medications, whatever.

• 1:28:07Speaker 05

  Parents, he's got.

• 1:28:08Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, sure, but like copays and.

• 1:28:10Speaker 05

Oh, um, no, not, not a lot.

• 1:28:13Caleb Hammer?

I'll let you, I'll also set you guys up with three free therapy sessions with Sander Mind. I use them, audience uses them. It's pretty good. Actually, I'll get you a course career certification of your choice. If you want something that boosts you in the tech field. There's a lot of tech stuff there that can help, uh, really up your income. Um, okay.

• 1:28:32Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so nothing there. I don't know how we can't survive subscriptions. No, do you have pets?

• 1:28:36Speaker 05

  No.

• 1:28:36Caleb Hammer?

  Car insurance?

• 1:28:37Speaker 05

We have, we have a gecko.

• 1:28:39Caleb Hammer?

  We have a. Car insurances?

• 1:28:40Speaker 05

Uh, one sixty five a month.

• 1:28:42Caleb Hammer?

I'll put in like twenty bucks a month for the gecko?

• 1:28:45Speaker 06

Yeah, that it's, it's more like twenty bucks every couple of months.

• 1:28:50Caleb Hammer?

  I'll put in five bucks.

• 1:28:51Speaker 06

  So far.

• 1:28:52Caleb Hammer?

I mean, I see no reason why you can't cash flow community college, to be completely honest. And I see no reason why.

• 1:29:00Speaker 05

Uh, because we're trying to get debt free and all of our disposable is going towards the debt.

• 1:29:05Caleb Hammer?

Trying to get debt free, though, we're trying to get the 5,000 dollars to go to 12,000 dollars.

• 1:29:08Speaker 05

Well, yeah, yeah, sorry. It was debt free and now it is get the 12K in the bank.

• 1:29:12Speaker 06

And I'm not personally willing to go to college again unless I can do it for cheaper.

• 1:29:17Speaker 05

Yeah, 300 a month is a lot better.

• 1:29:19Speaker 06

  Last time.

• 1:29:20Speaker 05

Or not 300, 300 a semester is a lot better.

• 1:29:23Caleb Hammer?

You're relying a lot on getting accepted, go through the whole visa process, paying for all that. Relocating your entire life, settling down somewhere.

• 1:29:29Speaker 05

Still gonna be cheaper than in college in America.

• 1:29:30Caleb Hammer?

I get it, I get it, I get it, I get it. Comes with you making half the income as well, okay. 1,000, it's gonna make it harder to pay off debt as well. Oftentimes with your half income situation. 1,424.26 a month is what you guys have left over. Boom, you guys have left over a month, what, you could essentially put towards almost a paid for semester at community college.

• 1:29:56Caleb Hammer?

I mean, Capital, uh, USAA, pay off that in three months, Capital One Venture, pay that off in like six months after that. Student loans, I wouldn't pay off, I'd just do minimum payment until it's paid off. You can pay off the mom situation in like no time, in less than a month, and this is fucking stupid, I really don't get it. Move to Germany a year, I mean, I don't care.

• 1:30:16Speaker 05

We, we gotta get there by September, though. We, we need the, uh, yeah, five, five grand, we need, uh, seven, seven grand more. It's roughly like eight because of conversion.

• 1:30:26Caleb Hammer?

If you follow the budget, you can get there. You can also pay off some debt. Okay, there you go. You have it. That's not my concern. The finances aren't the absolute obliterated worst. My concern is such a worldview, I don't care about anyone's politics, it's not that, it's how you view yourself in this. That's my main concern, especially when you come back, you're gonna find a way to be a victim there too. You refuse, no, no, no, you immediately thought student loans would kill you, you don't even know the whole system for that. You don't even, you didn't even understand a traditional repayment plan for that, like what everyone gets put into automatically. You immediately, like, you're, the way you've presented yourself has been endless victimhood, and that's my big concern. Instead of you actually going out there, you haven't applied to one scholarship. One.

• 1:31:10Caleb Hammer?

So I have a hard time with this. Listen, if you apply to every scholarship in the world, you've worked your [__], you've put yourself to your limit and tried every single option and you couldn't get there. That is where I'm like, let me pay for it even like I don't even care, but you haven't put in one single ounce of effort into that.

• 1:31:29Speaker 05

  That is

• 1:31:30Caleb Hammer?

Spending in a budget score you overspent zero out of 10. Debt, I mean, family debt's pretty rough, but it's gonna be a two out of 10. It's not the worst debt. Emergency fund, well, yeah, but it's going to the Germany situation, but I'm gonna give it a five out of 10 there. Retirement, definitely behind. Technically started one out of 10, maybe a two out of 10. No, 24, one out of 10. Real estate's zero out of 10 for now.
