For decades, a shadowy organization called the Illuminati has kept lemon on top and lime in the shadows. Look around, lemon-forward sodas, even lemon-forward songs. We ran the tracks, slowed them down, reversed them, and squeezed out the truth.

• 0:50Speaker 01

That's lemon propaganda right there. But now, 7-Up is fighting back with their new Lime Lemon Soda. Join the 7-Uprising. Flip the sip.

• 1:05Doug DeMuro?

Hello and welcome to This Car Pod!

• 1:09Speaker 03

  Filippo, I'm Sean.

• 1:11Doug DeMuro?

And this is a very important episode of our podcast. We recorded this episode a week ago because I am out of town. So we recorded the whole thing, we were gonna post it, and then disaster struck.

• 1:25Speaker 03

  Actual disaster. This is bad.

• 1:27Doug DeMuro?

Real disaster. The Ferrari Luceè is announced. And we're sitting here, we have to comment on this. We got the biggest car pod. We have to comment our opinion and tell people how we feel about this thing. So Ferrari Luceè, Filippo, why don't you start us off with just the basic facts? And then we'll get into what we think.

• 1:46Speaker 03

Yeah, so Ferrari, on Monday, yesterday we were filming this, revealed the Luceè after months of teasing the interior and teasing other things. It is a five-seater, four-door, electric vehicle. We'll get to some pictures in a minute. It has something like 1,050 horsepower from four motors, one in each wheel. The rear ones produce 800, something of that. We expected to have just shy of 300 miles of range in the US cycle, a little bit over that in the WLTP European cycle. It was developed and designed in collaboration between Ferrari's design studio and Jony Ive, and his design for Love From. Jonny Ive, of course, famous for his Apple work.

• 2:27Doug DeMuro?

All right, I have a lot of thoughts about this. The biggest of which is, this is an absolute abomination. And the single worst decision that... I don't want to say that any automaker has made in my lifetime, but we're getting there. We're getting really, really, really close. Let's start with Ferrari and just what this is for Ferrari. Ferrari says they want to bring on... They want to kind of go in a different direction. And I've been thinking about this, and I wonder if the different direction they want to go in is that they want to, for the first time in their history, have nobody interested in one of their products. I wonder if that's where they're headed with this one. I don't find it to be particularly ugly. A lot of people are saying it's ugly. I think it'd be fine.

• 3:11Doug DeMuro?

I think if it was released as a Polestar or a Honda, we'd be like, "Oh yeah, this is a car," whatever. I think releasing it as a four-door electric Ferrari that looks so generic and so non-Ferrari and so not desirable, right? Like, it looks practical and aerodynamic, but like, this isn't how we think of Ferrari. It's just a total... It's absolutely insane. And I want to be clear here about a couple of things. I think it's insane, I'm sure you guys do, everyone does. All comments I have seen all over social media, everywhere, have been unbelievably negative.

• 3:51Doug DeMuro?

I have not yet seen a single positive comment anywhere from anyone on any subject. But this isn't just the usual internet car enthusiast losers who are going off. Luca di Montezemolo, who was Ferrari's CEO before, was quoted on the record today as saying, "If I said what I think it would damage Ferrari, we risk the destruction of a myth. I hope they remove the prancing horse from that car." This isn't just a guy. This is the most important guy in Ferrari's modern history, who blew up the brand and created Ferrari, basically what it is today.

• 4:28Speaker 03

Ferrari's still resting on the steam and the momentum that Luca set in motion.

• 4:33Doug DeMuro?

Well, to a degree. I think Ferrari IPO'd in a post-Luca era and have greatly expanded things since then in a way that some purists don't love, but that has been very successful financially for Ferrari. And so Luca kind of started them on this trajectory, and I think they've done an amazing job of continuing on this trajectory since then. But this changes things. Ferrari's stock price today was down almost 5% on the announcement, which I think is proof that it's not just a bunch of internet people who don't like it. This is real. Like, these are real people responding in real time, watching this and saying this is a complete disaster. Unbelievably negative. I have a lot of like, kind of annoying rich guy friends

• 5:14Doug DeMuro?

who aren't actually into cars, but sort of like pretend to be, and all of them are laughing. These are the kind of people who would normally buy something like this. Who like bought, you know, Cayenne turbos and other EV AQs, and they're sitting here like, who would touch this car?

• 5:30Speaker 03

You know who likes this car is Mustang Mach-E buyers. It's the same exact concept. Let's take iconic name and just put it on absolute crap, and let's see what happens.

• 5:41Speaker 04

Okay, Mustang Mach-E is a relatively compelling, when it came out, EV product. Here's what I think Ferrari is struggling with. They realize that they have to, in some markets, Europe being one of them frankly, if they want to have any amount of sales growth, they need to offer an EV. That's kind of non-negotiable for some of the world markets where they compete. It's not true in the US, but it's true in some markets, that they need to offer something.

• 6:06Doug DeMuro?

For every other manufacturer, I think it makes sense, yes.

• 6:10Speaker 04

I think to have growth, to be able to sell in certain markets, I do think they will need to have an electric vehicle in their lineup.

• 6:19Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I think that that's reasonable. I think that that's an acceptably fair point, especially Asia.

• 6:24Speaker 04

I think that they saw the failure of some other cars. The Pirelli Batista being one of them, a bunch of others, where like, these are like high-powered sports cars that have not done well in the market. And they thought, we need to go in a different direction. It feels like they chose the wrong different direction, but I get what led them.

• 6:43Doug DeMuro?

You can see where their head was. You can see what they're thinking. A practical four-door car is much more popular in China, where sports cars have not been particularly popular, even Porsches. And so there's some sense to that. And hey, we need to go in a different direction. So we're going to hire this totally different design team, basically, to like, take us in this different direction. And this is going to be a new Ferrari. And so you kind of understand where they're going in that sense, but it is obviously one of the stupidest, most indescribably idiotic decisions. I mean, any one of these things taken individually would be insane. The car has basically the numbers of like, a nice Polestar, right? Like 0.625.

• 7:26Speaker 04

I know. It's not competitive. The Lucid Air Sapphire is 1.8, 1.89.

• 7:30Doug DeMuro?

The Lucid Air Sapphire does 0.6 in 1.8 seconds. Like, that's a... Ferrari's the fastest, whatever. If Ferrari's going to come out with this car and charge, what, 3X what Lucid Air charges for that Sapphire? And then it's going to look like this and not even be faster?

• 7:45Speaker 04

Right. That's the thing, right? I think Ferrari, despite what everybody wishes, which is, I think everybody wishes that Ferrari was a more sentimental brand that looked back and tried to just keep going. That's not how they present themselves.

• 7:57Doug DeMuro?

  Yes.

• 7:59Speaker 04

That's not what they want to be.

• 8:01Doug DeMuro?

Sure. But in the design of this car, there's a lot of looking back. The round taillights, a lot of the interior features, a lot of what Johnny Ive took from Ferrari is looking back. Yeah, I will say, Filippo's point, though, is a great one. Ferrari has actually, not only have they don't view themselves as being sentimental, they've actually been successful by being not sentimental. Every time they've come out with a new product that has not been sentimental, an SUV, a four-seater convertible in 2008, which was a big deal, they have actually, all they've done is get more sales and sell more cars. And so they're sitting here watching this. I bet you there are people in Ferrari HQ sitting there watching this and saying, this will blow over. It's another California launch. This is just another California. These people don't know yet.

• 8:42Doug DeMuro?

And I think what who doesn't know is Ferrari. We have watched brand after brand attempt these things and not succeed particularly well and walk back EV strategies, not just in the States. But globally because demand hasn't been there, but particularly demand hasn't been there at this price point in this segment. The Batista and the Rimac Nevara are good examples, but Lamborghini bailed out of the whole thing because they listened to their customers. And I think it's interesting Ferrari has always been intentionally arrogant about listening to their customers. They've always kind of, we're not going to listen to our customers. We know what's best. And I think that works right up until it doesn't. And this will not work. This is not just an abomination as a, it's just, it's embarrassing. It's completely embarrassing to do this to the Ferrari brand.

• 9:27Speaker 04

A couple of things that are interesting legitimately. Five seater, first five seater Ferrari. And why they felt they need to do that, I don't really know, but regardless.

• 9:35Doug DeMuro?

Because I think because, because, because cars with four doors.

• 9:39Speaker 04

Four doors, yeah, but four seats, I think is fine for the Asian market too. I don't know. How they got specs to be that unimpressive, it's hard to know.

• 9:49Doug DeMuro?

I want to know what it weighs. Is if it's super light, then that becomes much more interesting.

• 9:53Speaker 04

  It's not.

• 9:53Speaker 03

There's, I want to know that number.

• 9:56Doug DeMuro?

I have a few other things that I've been thinking about.

• 9:58Speaker 04

As do I, but Kik, go ahead.

• 10:00Doug DeMuro?

Johnny Ive is famous in the design world, maybe the, one of the most famous living designers. And I don't want to say that he's got an ego. I don't know him. I haven't seen a lot of interviews with him, but obviously he has this respect.

• 10:13Doug DeMuro?

So he goes into this and probably people are willing to, you know, first off, what does his legacy look like after this? Obviously there's a, there's a tarnishment here and there will be when this car is the flop that it will become. But you also have to wonder like, are people just, did people just say yes, because Johnny Ive said it to be true? And he did the iPhone or he knows what he's doing and we want to go in a different direction. And so here's, here's this man who, he must know better than us, you know, like, and just people rubber stamped it. Because they just assumed that a different direction meant something like this. I'm curious about that.

• 10:48Speaker 04

Well, so, so I do want to say about that, the shape itself, per Ferrari's own press releases, was designed by Ferrari before bringing in Johnny Ive. All he did from their, their description was basically like, put the finishing touches on it. Do some of the like stylistic elements around the shape.

• 11:04Doug DeMuro?

Well, he's going to go, I mean, regardless of that, he will go down as being associated with this forever.

• 11:09Speaker 04

  Oh, totally.

• 11:10Doug DeMuro?

I mean, this will be part of his legacy. I was also interested in my, some of my colleagues who went to the event. Pay close attention over the next week to these videos. There are going to be people who tell you things in order to keep a relationship as opposed to the truth. And we are going to tell you the truth here. This thing sucks.

• 12:04Speaker 04

I do wonder what it looks like with other cars. It's hard to get a sense of like its full height and shape.

• 12:09Doug DeMuro?

I'll tell you what it looks like. It looks like ass. It looks like ass.

• 12:13Speaker 04

It is much lower than a Purosangue. I don't remember the exact number, but it's longer. It's also lower. I do wonder what it looks like relative to other cars.

• 12:20Doug DeMuro?

It's interesting. There's a creator named Cleo Abram that doesn't do car content, but got to interview Johnny Ive and Flavio Manzoni, who's the head of design for Ferrari. And she asked really the right questions that you want, you want to ask like, what would Enzo Ferrari think of this? What would Steve Jobs think of this? And they had a really hard time answering those questions.

• 12:40Speaker 04

I think I would too. I, okay, I do want to think about a couple of interesting things. By all accounts, from people that were there in person, so take everything that I'm about to say with the grain of salt that Doug added. The interior is stunningly beautiful and like well executed, great materials, truly beautiful. Purportedly.

• 12:57Doug DeMuro?

You know, we predicted, we predicted on this podcast a couple of months ago that they've showed the interior first because the car was going to be so disappointing that they wanted to get some positive. I agree, the interior looks cool. We predicted that. We even put out a short.

• 13:09Speaker 04

We did. Did you, the one thing that I do think is actually interesting. So apparently the motors are designed by Ferrari, which is kind of interesting. That's somewhat rare in the EV world. The batteries are made to be able to swap out for future battery cell types. Kind of interesting. The sound thing is actually truly interesting. So you can change the sound that you're getting from it. But the sound is captured from the vibration in the axles. Uh, it, it, it's not like a false sound that's generated for this, like everybody else does, like BMW does, that's Hans Zimmer.

• 13:39Doug DeMuro?

Can you change the sound to make the car not suck? Is that possible?

• 13:44Speaker 04

I can't see that, but it is kind of interesting to use the sound waves from like the vibration axles that are then, then amplified. That's somewhat interesting. I will say.

• 13:52Doug DeMuro?

You know, it's just not gonna be enough, Alipo.

• 13:54Speaker 04

No, God, no. I, I, for sure.

• 13:57Speaker 03

Is this gonna be the first time Mansari improves a Ferrari?

• 14:01Speaker 04

  I don't think it's that.

• 14:02Doug DeMuro?

I don't, I don't like, I don't just like how it looks, by the way. I do think that it looks like the next gen i-Pace. Like when I look at it, I think I see a next gen i-Pace. And, and that's another sadness for me. Like this is a derivative car. Ferrari's entire history has been like, with, with a few exceptions in the sixties and seventies, has been like being the leaders in design. We're gonna go out there and we're gonna just make the most beautiful cars that are the most desirable and everyone else is gonna follow us. Especially in the last 20 years. And that's been true. And to show up with this derivative design that looks like it could be a Mercedes, a Polestar, a, a Jaguar, like anything. It's, that's just like totally crazy.

• 14:47Doug DeMuro?

I, you, you know what hit me the other day? It hit me as I was, I was thinking about this. Everybody always accuses me of being a Porsche guy. You know, if Ferrari's gonna do this, like my kids are gonna grow up in an era where Porsche is the enthusiast brand. Ferrari has been, has handed this to Porsche. When I was a kid, Ferrari was the enthusiast brand. And me and Sean fell in love with Ferrari and I know every Ferrari and I am most obsessed with Ferrari of any brand. And why is my child gonna like grow up in that same way? Porsche is making cars with manual transmissions and like real naturally aspirated engines and Ferrari is making. Making this like this is what for $600,000 like what?

• 15:30Speaker 04

Competitive specs really I find it kind of interesting. I want to see one in person to really draw judgment.

• 15:36Speaker 03

The Doug review of this car is gonna be amazing.

• 15:39Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I mean, obviously, they won't let lend me a car, so I'm gonna have to borrow it from somebody. I'd be surprised. Obviously, the people that I borrow Ferraris from are gonna be forced to buy one. And I think that that's a that's a reality of this car. Ferrari is gonna point to some sales and say, hey, we're selling them. But that's only because there are people who are except hoping for allocations of other cars who are gonna get stuck with them. One thing I do find very interesting is Ferrari has made it incredibly clear that they want this car to be a car that creates new buyers for them. And so there I assume what they are hoping for is people who are not just trying to play the allocation game and get allocated an SP4, an SP5, or an SP6, or whatever those cars come. They're trying to find actual new customers buying this car.

• 16:21Doug DeMuro?

And I can't imagine there's a market for this car outside of people who are forced to buy it.

• 16:27Speaker 04

I'm not as pessimistic on it as you and literally every other person is.

• 16:31Doug DeMuro?

  That's $600,000. You're not as pessimistic?

• 16:34Speaker 04

There's a there's a lot of rich people who like tech. I think it looks kind of interesting.

• 16:38Doug DeMuro?

They're all gonna get laughed at. Those rich people only like this stuff in as much as it is cool. They only buy these cars in as much as it makes them feel cool to be driving it and be looked at as cool by other people. No one will think that about this. If someone I know who's in my rich guy sphere buys this car, the rest of us will all be laughing at him behind his back. And probably to me, I will laugh at him to his face. This is this is an absolute abomination.

• 17:06Speaker 04

I I don't I get your point about it being looking like a lot of other EVs and being a little derivative that I don't fully agree. I think there's a lot of pretty unique elements for from a sound perspective. I think that there's a chance that in real life, in some markets, this does come out and looks futuristic and can bring new people to the brand. I'm not as pessimistic about it as as I think you or most other people, especially in the US are. I don't think there's a car for us. There's not a car for the US market. I mean, I it will come here by all accounts, but I don't think it was developed with those in mind. I think that's reflected here.

• 17:38Doug DeMuro?

It's not a car for any market at $650,000.

• 17:42Speaker 04

Probably true. By the way, can I... The headlight appears to be in the lower section of the bodywork.

• 17:47Doug DeMuro?

It doesn't matter. The details do not matter. The overarching big picture is Ferrari has been an object of desirability that seems untouchable and amazingly cool to the point of frustration, honestly, for the last 25 years. Other automakers bang their heads against the wall, saying this Huracan is just as good. Why can't we keep resale? Why can't we have a long waiting list like Ferrari does? Why can't we, you know, get people into an MC20, right? Like, even though it's the same, it looks the same, it looks even better. The performance numbers are the same. Aston Martin has been killing themselves for 25 years trying to make cars as desirable as Ferrari. Their numbers are similar. No one wants the cars because Ferrari has this mystique, which in my mind, has taken

• 18:31Doug DeMuro?

a massive hit if this car does come to market, which it seems like they're serious.

• 18:37Speaker 04

For better or worse. You ever realize how many customers slip through the cracks? Missed calls, texts that never get applied, follow-ups and that just never happen. It's like Ryan Lopez trying to contact an HVAC repair guy. These things add up fast, and that's why today's episode is brought to you by QUO, spelled Q-U-O, the business communication system built so you never miss a call. And look, this one's a little different because we actually use QUO at Cars and Bids. Filippo just got a call right now using QUO, and if you email [email protected], he might also pick up the phone through our QUO phone line. It's how we connect with our buyers and sellers every single day, so I can genuinely tell you this thing works. We're happy to spread the word, and here's what makes it great. Your entire team can handle calls and texts from one shared number.

• 19:22Speaker 04

So no more missed messages, no more dropped conversations, no drama. Everyone sees the full thread, replies go out faster, and your customers actually feel taken care of. It works right from your phone or computer. You keep your existing number, and you can add teammates in minutes. It'll also sync with your CRM. And it's not just a phone system, it's a smart one. The AI automatically logs your calls, generates summaries, flags next steps, and so much more. It can even qualify... Qualify leads or respond after hours so your business keeps running even when you're throwing back a couple of cold ones. Calls, texts, voicemails, transcripts, contact details, all in one clean view. It's a number one rated business phone system on G2 with over 3,000 reviews and more than 90,000 businesses rely on it.

Summer is here, which means I've got my annual cross-country road trip coming up. And before I take off on any trip, I like to make absolutely sure my vehicle is ready for the road. You might have a trip coming up too, so I've got five things from AutoZone that'll help you get moving. And the great thing is AutoZone is everywhere, which means wherever the road takes you, the parts you need are right there. Number one, Fix Finder. If you've got a dash light on, start with a free Fix Finder scan at AutoZone. It reads your dashboard signals, engine, ABS, maintenance, and prints out a report telling you exactly what's going on. An AutoZoner can point you to the right part or even refer you to a local shop. Fast, easy, totally free. Number two, Fluids. Top everything off and don't forget the easy to overlook ones.

• 21:03Doug DeMuro?

Windshield wiper fluid, brake fluid, and coolant. You can order it all on autozone.com and pick it up the same day. Number three, Oil. Always, always, always check it. Look at the level and the color on the dipstick. If it's due, don't wait. Ask an AutoZoner to help you grab the right oil and filter for your engine. Number four, The Essentials. Tires, lights, and battery. I always check my tire pressure before leaving. I make sure every light works and I check the wipers while I'm at it. For the battery, look for corrosion and get it tested. AutoZone does that for free. And number five, Brakes and Belts. Squealing or whining during braking? Time for a replacement. Duralast brakes have a 100% noise-free guarantee and a factory-matched OEM fit.

• 21:47Doug DeMuro?

Need to swap a serpentine belt? AutoZone's Loan-A-Tool program has you covered. And the AutoZone app has your belt diagram right there. When it comes to car prep, a little goes a long way. Take care of your car now and it'll take care of you on the road. And if you need a part or a pit stop, AutoZone's got you covered wherever the trip takes you. Now, let's ride.

• 22:08Speaker 03

Why did they do this? Like, why do you think they chose to do this at this moment? Like, Ferrari and the Italian government are very cozy. They didn't need to do this for any regulatory reason.

• 22:18Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I mean, Ferrari is probably worried about falling behind on a global level in terms of its brand.

• 22:29Doug DeMuro?

But it does absolutely astonish me when we are looking at other automakers. The fact that Lamborghini was gonna do this and then bailed because of consumer interest. And we've seen Penn and Farina, and we've seen Rimac, and we've seen other companies, including Ferrari's own SF90s, which are trading at half of sticker. You know, that's another thing that hasn't been discussed here, but this is a different era of Ferrari in a lot of ways. And we're already starting to kind of go down that path, where Ferrari is no longer the brand that it once was, making one less car than the market demands, because, you know, you're seeing resale values tank. You're seeing 12 cylinders on the market right now selling for under MSRP, cars that have 75 miles on them. And this ain't the Ferrari of yore.

• 23:11Doug DeMuro?

And I think that they're worried that their brand won't be as accepted globally. A four-door car, an electric car, is gonna get them into some of these markets. But it certainly is not gonna curry them any favor in any place where Ferrari is an established and desirable brand. And I don't think this car will serve to make them more desirable in those emerging markets that don't know the Ferrari brand that well either. So I think it's a flop on basically every level.

• 23:37Speaker 04

I do think, I don't disagree, to be clear, and I'm taking a somewhat contrarian view here.

• 23:43Speaker 04

Since Ferrari went public, they had a huge run-up, 2022 to 2025, more or less, in their stock price. It has been coming down for the last year plus, and the last year it's down 32%. Yes, it's down again today, today's Tuesday, by about 5%, but in the last five days, it's about flat. Uh, which I'm going to interpret as the market has kind of realized that Ferrari is in a precarious position where maybe they're not worth as much as we once thought. I do hope that the Lusia is a little bit of a wake up call for Ferrari and this reaction is a little bit of a wake up call that they actually do need to go after enthusiasts if they want to retain any of their brand credibility.

• 24:22Doug DeMuro?

I don't think Ferrari, I don't think that Ferrari will truly get a wake up call until the sales numbers come in. And, uh, because I truly

• 24:32Speaker 04

  To be fair, they're down.

• 24:33Doug DeMuro?

I truly, yeah, they will. I tru- I truly think that Ferrari is sitting there, that Ferrari, who has always been arrogant about their customers' demands, from the day that, from the day that Enzo Ferrari told Ferrucio Lamborghini to go build tractors, Ferrari has always been arrogant about this. I think that they're, they're, they're sitting there thinking, the market is reacting like this, but they don't know. And it's a bunch of internet people and none of these people are real anyway. And when this car comes out, people are going to see how great it is and they're going to buy it. I think Ferrari truly is sitting there right now believing that. I don't think that they're sitting there thinking like shaking or nervous about the reaction. I think they're reminded of California and of Purosangue and they're saying, we've weathered this stuff before and we are Ferrari and we will weather it again. And I think that this particular car,

• 25:18Doug DeMuro?

I don't, I think when we look back, this car will not be, have been the beginning of the end. I think that came earlier, but this car certainly was probably the biggest block in terms of pushing them kind of down the road of becoming a, a brand that is not as revered as it was when, when we were all growing.

• 25:35Speaker 04

This is the first full departure, right? Every other car has had some connective tissue to what made Ferrari Ferrari.

• 25:41Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 25:41Speaker 04

Even if they're looking forward, weren't looking in their, their past, right? The Purosangue has a V12, the California has a, has a great V8. Uh, there's something about this departure.

• 25:52Doug DeMuro?

And the design, the style of all those cars was unmistakably Ferrari. And honestly, people have been complaining about the departure of Pina Farina since it happened. I don't entirely agree. I think that Ferrari has always been sort of a futuristic leader type brand and they've taken the company in a completely futuristic direction that has been kind of cool and interesting. And Until now. And now forever, we will have, um, we will associate, you know, they, they went to the Apple iPhone guy and got a, and got an Apple iPhone car. And this is, this is not the Ferrari that we ever wanted. And it's in their city, I truly believe they're sitting there right now in Italy saying, these people, that's the whole point. We didn't want the enthusiasts, we want a new group.

• 26:35Doug DeMuro?

And I think that they're not going to, as a result, they're going to lose a lot of enthusiasts and they're not going to get the new people.

• 26:40Speaker 04

I think that's a fair, but don't worry, they have thousands of deeply considered details that unite to create a singular driving experience. So we're good.

• 26:48Doug DeMuro?

We're going to have to write one of these on Turo. There's nobody in the world who's going to lend me one of these. We're going to have to write one of these on Turo. Unfortunately, that won't be possible because no one on the planet will ever buy this trash.

• 26:59Speaker 04

What if it is the greatest, what if it is the greatest driving experience of all time? We get in this car and it's like.

• 27:04Doug DeMuro?

You know, it's interesting. I, I am curious about that, how it drives. Like it's funny because that has not been something that Ferrari has talked about. They've talked about the details, the design and the first power.

• 27:15Speaker 04

  As a 296.

• 27:16Doug DeMuro?

I remember when the Cayenne came out, one of Porsche's fallbacks was, okay, say what you will, but this makes the X5 drive like a truck. That was a direct quote from the people at Porsche. And when people drove the original Cayenne, they had that opinion and it really did start to sway public opinion on it. I don't think that's going to happen here because we've seen the Pinnin, Frona Batista and the Rimac Nevara and other high powered EVs. And we've already had that experience. There's no way that they can make this car drive in a way that makes up for all the other BS. It's not possible.

• 27:47Speaker 04

I, I am into this big bet, like fundamentally, I think it's cool, but I don't think that it's a good business decision in any way, shape or form.

• 27:55Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I think I am into it also.

• 27:57Speaker 04

Like they did a poor job of it. If they'd done a good job of it, I would be super into it.

• 28:00Doug DeMuro?

Totally. I think Ferrari, an EV Ferrari, if we're being honest about the future of cars, this is a direction they probably do have to go. There's a lot of different things you could say about timing and all that, but I think this is probably a future reality. Doing it at this time with this car that looks like this, with these numbers at this price point is just, is just laughable. It's, it's, the Honda Prelude is off the hook. Uh, we have a new, we have a new worst automotive decision of, of the last 10 years in our, in our world here. Uh, with that, should we return to the regular podcast?

• 28:35Speaker 04

Well, let's go back to it. Goodbye, everybody.

• 28:38Doug DeMuro?

  Goodbye.

• 28:40Speaker 03

Hello. Hello, I'm leaving. You're leaving. Goodbye Sean. Yeah, Kenan's joining, or Nick is joining. I'm moving then. Goodbye.

• 30:12Doug DeMuro?

Hello and welcome to this car pod. I'm Kenan.

• 30:17Speaker 04

  I'm Felipe.

• 30:17Doug DeMuro?

This is a very special episode of this car pod because I am out of town. And so we've pre-recorded this. You're watching this, we recorded this weeks ago. Nothing that we say on this podcast, we still believe.

• 30:30Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 30:31Doug DeMuro?

No, but because we recorded weeks ago, unfortunately, we have to skip our most sumptuous segment, the news.

• 30:38Speaker 04

  Sumptuous.

• 30:38Speaker 03

  That's interesting.

• 30:40Speaker 04

The adjective for that one, okay.

• 30:42Doug DeMuro?

And so we're going to move directly because the news has happened, but we can't report on it because

• 30:46Speaker 04

We don't know the news this week.

• 30:48Doug DeMuro?

Right. So we're going to instead move on to the talk cars segment right away. Uh, and, uh, there's a lot of talk cars. I have saved a lot of talk cars for this exact podcast to talk through a lot of different car things since we don't have

• 31:03Speaker 04

Start us off. Start us off strong.

• 31:05Doug DeMuro?

Okay. I will start us off strong. Um, you know what? Let's just start with the most important thing of the day, which is kind of news to an extent. Uh, Sean and I received an email the other day. A couple of weeks ago on our podcast, I made a big thing about how I was still looking for two Colorado license plates to complete my set of one from every county.

• 31:27Speaker 04

  In Colorado.

• 31:27Doug DeMuro?

One of these denim license plates. They were blue. They were only made from 1992 to 1999. And I've been looking for 25 years. I've been trying to complete this. This is not an exaggeration. I've been trying to do this for 25 years and I'm down to two counties. And, uh, we got, and I said, I jokingly said, I really, I didn't think anybody out there, I said, I'd give a thousand bucks to anybody who can get me one of the remaining two counties. And I gave him Sean's email.

• 31:54Speaker 04

  Sure. That's S E A N I call it this dot com.

• 31:57Doug DeMuro?

So we got an email from a guy. Do you want to pull it up? We got an email from a guy named Curtis in Salt Lake City. And he said, Dear Doug, Dear Sean, I have a plate Doug's looking for you. My, my wife was a dental hygiene student at Colorado Northwestern Community College, 1998 to 2000 in Rangeley, Colorado. It's one of the small towns there. We registered our 1995 Subaru Legacy sedan in Rio Blanco County while we were in school. We moved back. I kept the plate. Uh, and he's asked if I wanted to have it. 25 years I've been looking for this.

• 32:30Speaker 04

That is so nice. That is so generous. And this is

• 32:33Doug DeMuro?

I gave him a thousand bucks.

• 32:34Speaker 04

  Are you sure? You're sure?

• 32:35Speaker 05

I'm glad you're a man of your word.

• 32:37Doug DeMuro?

But, look, Filippo, aren't, now, the last county left is Mineral. We're not gonna find that by the same way, unfortunately.

• 32:43Speaker 04

  We may.

• 32:44Doug DeMuro?

No, we won't. But Curtis came through for us. Unbelievable. Are you thrilled?

• 32:49Speaker 04

  I'm thrilled. I'm also, I didn't realize you've been looking for 25.

• 32:52Doug DeMuro?

  25 years.

• 32:52Speaker 04

Some people turn 13 and have hobbies. I don't know what those hobbies are, but they have hobbies. Doug turned 13 and starts looking.

• 33:00Doug DeMuro?

I'll tell you what happened. I'll tell you what happened. I'm gonna make it very clear. When I was a kid.

• 33:04Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 33:05Doug DeMuro?

I was turning, when I was 11 years old, Colorado stopped producing license plates that showed what county the car was from. When I was 11 years old. I consider it to be the worst moment of my life. Okay, it's January 1, 2000.

• 33:18Doug DeMuro?

Right. The dawn of the millennium, and they ruined everything. So, because there were no more counties on the license plates, I...

• 33:27Speaker 04

  Alright, whatever.

• 33:28Doug DeMuro?

I, uh, I've made it my life's goal to get all of the counties. And they had green plates and they had blue plates. And the green ones that were standard, they were easier to find. These cost $50 extra. So, what Curtis didn't tell us here is that he actually spent 50 bucks extra to have this plate.

• 33:41Speaker 04

  Wow.

• 33:41Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, back in that era.

• 33:43Speaker 04

  Well, mine.

• 33:45Doug DeMuro?

And so, yeah, that was what I, as a child, that's all I wanted. I wanted to capture the license plates of my youth. See, Kennan wants the cars that, from when he was a kid, that are the most, I only want the license plates.

• 33:58Speaker 05

  That's where we differ.

• 34:00Doug DeMuro?

I'm not even caught, like, I grew up in Colorado. I haven't even been to Colorado in like, seven years. I'm not interested in Colorado at all.

• 34:05Speaker 04

But you have been to every county.

• 34:07Doug DeMuro?

I've been to every county in Colorado, including beautiful Rio Blanco County, which is in the northwest part of the state where they find dinosaur fossils.

• 34:13Speaker 05

That's very cool. And they have denim license, or had denim license.

• 34:16Speaker 04

  And have a white river.

• 34:18Doug DeMuro?

Uh, yeah, there you go. Rio Blanco, can't believe it. Truly changed my life, Curtis. Thank you so much. If you're out there and you find the Mineral, $1,000 for you.

• 34:29Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 34:30Doug DeMuro?

  You gonna look?

• 34:31Speaker 05

Uh, no. I've got flight. You'll never find it, so don't worry. To be honest with you, I have never once in my whole life cared about license plates. Until you came into my life and now that's all I see when I look at cars.

• 34:41Doug DeMuro?

Ohio, by the way, still does, puts counties on the license plates and in fact is one of my hero states because they were going away from the whole county thing. They have switched from the county name being written on the license plate to little numbers that you had to memorize. And they since went back to writing the county name. They've actually gone forward in, in, I think all license plates in all places should have.

• 35:04Speaker 05

But it looks terrible. The way they do it is like they print, it's just like, it looks like someone used a label maker and printed it on.

• 35:10Doug DeMuro?

It looks really cheap. The Ohio plates in general look bad now because they're all flat now.

• 35:15Speaker 05

Also, to be clear with the small county numbers, like it did say on there, but like, you really had to know. But hey, you know, I saw, I knew Summit County, I think it was 55, I can't remember what it was.

• 35:23Doug DeMuro?

So that's the problem. That's the problem.

• 35:25Speaker 05

It's been a long time, I don't live there anymore, haven't lived there in six years.

• 35:27Speaker 04

Speaking of license plates. Yeah. Yesterday, as we get past again, I was up at like in the, by Big Bear-ish.

• 35:33Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 35:33Speaker 04

And I saw I was on the 15 a lot, there's a lot of new cars up there and on highways. I spent the entire time looking for a new format California plate.

• 35:40Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 35:41Speaker 04

  Still have not seen one.

• 35:42Doug DeMuro?

No, they're, they're only, they only issued 250 of them in some Northern California county as like a test.

• 35:48Speaker 04

Surely they're run out of nine Y's.

• 35:50Doug DeMuro?

They're gonna end up going to 9Z and do the whole thing.

• 35:52Speaker 04

  Oh, sorry.

• 35:52Doug DeMuro?

You're not gonna see the new format.

• 35:55Speaker 04

  They're gonna do 9Z.

• 35:56Doug DeMuro?

Although I have, yeah, although I have the first new format, don't forget.

• 35:59Speaker 04

  I haven't seen it.

• 36:00Doug DeMuro?

  Um.

• 36:01Speaker 04

  Have you seen it?

• 36:02Doug DeMuro?

Have I seen the first new format?

• 36:03Speaker 04

  I thought I had, didn't come in.

• 36:04Doug DeMuro?

No, I possess it, it's, I've had it for years. I've, it's literally, I have a picture of it, me holding it. Shaun has posted on this podcast, I can't believe we started off with the most boring subject of all.

• 36:13Speaker 04

  Your decision.

• 36:14Doug DeMuro?

I want to move on to the, the best talk cars the whole time. This is generally, a general talk cars.

• 36:19Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 36:19Doug DeMuro?

The Toyota Sienna pulling out the Cybertruck, have you seen this video?

• 36:23Speaker 04

  I have not.

• 36:25Doug DeMuro?

As if having a Cybertruck at this point wasn't even more embar, wasn't incredibly embarrassing. I want to take you through the levels of embarrassment of this.

• 36:32Speaker 04

C70 you had parked behind it.

• 36:33Doug DeMuro?

Pause here, pause here. So, we start with this, the stuck Cybertruck, obviously embarrassing since this vehicle was touted as it can do anything and go anywhere and do anything. In addition, the Cybertruck in general has kind of gotten embarrassed, we all agree. Like you see them around, you're like, oh, well, that was last year's fashion accessory. Okay, so, we start there. We're at the beginning of embarrassment. Then, the camera moves. All right? And we see. It's it's it's being pulled by something, right?

• 36:59Speaker 04

  Right.

• 36:59Doug DeMuro?

And the something that it's being pulled by is go to go back to the start before is a Sienna. Now, pause here, pause here, pause here, go back a little bit, actually.

• 37:07Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 37:07Doug DeMuro?

The next embarrassing layer is that it's being pulled by a Sienna. And this Sienna is so weak that it doesn't even have a tow hitch. They've got this strap hooked up somewhere to like a child's safety.

• 37:19Speaker 04

  To the latch.

• 37:23Doug DeMuro?

The Cybertruck is such a pathetic vehicle that it's getting pulled out not only by a minivan, but a minivan without even the capability of towing.

• 37:33Speaker 04

  Hey, it's a hybrid, okay?

• 37:34Doug DeMuro?

Okay, and then you see it's some, I don't want to be sexist on this podcast, but you assumed it was gonna be some burly dude who's like, I rescue people like Matt's Offroad Recovery.

• 37:44Speaker 04

  Yeah, of course.

• 37:45Doug DeMuro?

Uh, but no, it's a woman. It's like she's just, and then also, to me, the most embarrassing thing is they've all decided to go to the kind of beach where people go.

• 37:53Speaker 04

  In a C70.

• 37:54Doug DeMuro?

  You think that's a C70?

• 37:54Speaker 04

  Yeah, 100%.

• 37:55Doug DeMuro?

With a blue top? I was gonna say it's a, oh, it is, it's a C70 with an aftermarket blue top.

• 38:00Speaker 04

You think I would be wrong about what kind of Volvo is part of the background of the shot?

• 38:03Doug DeMuro?

The point is, if the Cybertruck wasn't already an embarrassment, boy, this video really drives it home, doesn't it?

• 38:11Speaker 04

  They end up in that.

• 38:12Speaker 05

There's so many layers to the video, it's really hard to pull them all apart. But I'm glad that you've given the play by play here.

• 38:17Doug DeMuro?

  So bad.

• 38:18Speaker 05

Well, also, he ran over, like, I don't know where the guy was going.

• 38:21Doug DeMuro?

  They weren't even capable of.

• 38:22Speaker 05

How do you think they're steering into those things?

• 38:24Speaker 04

  Right.

• 38:25Speaker 05

  That is so.

• 38:27Doug DeMuro?

  A Toyota.

• 38:27Speaker 05

A Toyota and four, five bystanders.

• 38:30Doug DeMuro?

  A Toyota Sienna.

• 38:32Speaker 05

And it's still kind of not out all the way at the end there.

• 38:34Doug DeMuro?

That is Cybertruck ownership in 2027. I look at him now and I'm like, ew, and now that I've seen this video, I'm like, oh my.

• 38:41Speaker 05

  Yikes.

• 38:41Doug DeMuro?

Like, it doesn't, it can't tow. It's a four cylinder hybrid.

• 38:46Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 38:46Doug DeMuro?

They're pulling out a Cybertruck. Remember Elon Musk said it would be, it would save us from the apocalypse.

• 38:52Speaker 04

Hey, is that an all wheel drive Sienna?

• 38:54Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, go, go.

• 38:55Speaker 04

Yeah, I know, I, I know that you specifically have a way to know.

• 38:59Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, that's, well, it's, it's not a Platinum, I don't know, actually. I think it is an all wheel drive.

• 39:04Speaker 04

We, Doug and I had discovered, a lot of extensive research, that the Platinum Sienna has two different wheel designs.

• 39:10Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, the, the bigger wheel is for the two wheel drive.

• 39:12Speaker 04

But you cannot tell which is which.

• 39:13Doug DeMuro?

I can tell instantly. This is the small wheel, but it isn't a Platinum. Regardless, it's probably a four wheel drive, but like. Does it matter? I mean, this is the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

• 39:25Speaker 05

Yeah, that's tough. I wonder how quick, do you think the guy sold this?

• 39:28Doug DeMuro?

  Is this Carmel?

• 39:30Speaker 05

  It has to be.

• 39:30Doug DeMuro?

I think this is the beach at Carmel. Yeah, I think this is the beach in Carmel, right at the end of Panorama Drive, yeah. That's even more embarrassing. Imagine driving one of these around picturesque, serene, quiet Carmel.

• 39:42Speaker 05

I hope someone yelled at him, "Go back to the bay."

• 39:46Doug DeMuro?

  So true.

• 39:48Speaker 05

Well, you see both the wheels articulating and everything.

• 39:50Doug DeMuro?

What did you think when you saw this video for the first time?

• 39:52Speaker 04

  Just now.

• 39:53Doug DeMuro?

  Really?

• 39:55Speaker 04

I was trying to figure out how they got in that situation at all.

• 39:58Doug DeMuro?

Well, they got in this situation because they thought this Cybertruck could off-road.

• 40:01Speaker 04

Which, and it does have like all-terrain tires, does it not?

• 40:04Doug DeMuro?

Honestly, they're so dug out here, if they just took the air down, they would have gotten out. But they don't know that because they have a Cybertruck and they have no capacity for understanding how to operate it in any situational manner. Yeah.

• 40:18Speaker 04

  That's so true.

• 40:19Doug DeMuro?

Cybertruck getting pulled out by a CNA. Ken, what are your thoughts when you see a Cybertruck these days on the road?

• 40:23Speaker 05

You know, I just kind of ignore it. Like, it's, I don't give people the satisfaction. If you have one at this point, like, it just says a lot, you know? I do kind of get annoyed when passengers of mine go, "Look, it's a dumpster on wheels." It's like, yeah, we've already heard that, all the tropes are played out. It's just nothing.

• 40:42Doug DeMuro?

The tropes are even boring. The car is obviously boring, the tropes are even boring.

• 40:48Speaker 05

And it feels like bad to say that because it's like, okay, you're really kicking them. Like, we know. We get it. It's an unspoken thing at this stage.

• 40:54Doug DeMuro?

Right. The fact that that article I read that said that 20% of new Cybertrucks were sold to one of Elon's own companies is just kind of, that and this picture just kind of sum up everything.

• 41:05Speaker 04

  Also 40% year-over-year drop.

• 41:07Doug DeMuro?

  40% drop.

• 41:08Speaker 04

  In 2025 versus 2024.

• 41:10Doug DeMuro?

I mean, Ford has the ability to just cancel the Lightning and absorb those costs. And Tesla like put actual like company behind this ridiculous vehicle. They're canceling their SUV, they're canceling their sedan, but at least they got the dumpster on wheels, am I right?

• 41:27Doug DeMuro?

Okay, well, we have to move on to our next taught cars story. Felipe, why don't you give it to us?

• 41:33Speaker 04

Yeah, alright, we have an event coming up that I will personally be at. And I would like for you all to come too.

• 41:39Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, where is it?

• 41:40Speaker 04

Alright, this event is gonna be at the Lars Anderson Museum, right outside of Boston.

• 41:43Doug DeMuro?

Oh, Boston, great, great folks there.

• 41:45Speaker 04

We're gonna be on the East Coast. We're gonna have something like 400 cars there, which is gonna be our largest ever event.

• 41:50Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

At the Lars Anderson meetup. If you go to the events page, we'll have a link in the bio too. You can get a ticket, it's a free ticket, but we need to contract that you're gonna be there to know how many cool cars we'll have.

• 42:01Doug DeMuro?

  Tell Jeff to go.

• 42:02Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 42:02Doug DeMuro?

So you don't have to register?

• 42:03Speaker 04

You do have to register, there'll be a link.

• 42:05Doug DeMuro?

Oh, got it, but it's free.

• 42:06Speaker 04

  But it's free to go.

• 42:06Doug DeMuro?

What kind of cars are registering? Who's there, who's coming?

• 42:09Speaker 04

  I'll be there.

• 42:10Doug DeMuro?

It's a month away, there must be some people registering already, who's coming?

• 42:13Speaker 04

There's all kinds of people, we're recording this two-part advance, man. I can't tell you the best cars.

• 42:16Doug DeMuro?

Anybody with an Acura ADX coming?

• 42:18Speaker 04

I hope that they come with their other car.

• 42:22Doug DeMuro?

  Whatever it is.

• 42:22Speaker 04

Whatever it may be. I hope they bring a different one.

• 42:25Speaker 05

Lars is interesting, because they are like, you can park like up top of those little parking lot down below. You can get a lot of cars there.

• 42:31Speaker 04

I will be selecting the cars that are in the premier.

• 42:33Doug DeMuro?

  You will be?

• 42:34Speaker 05

God, never mind, don't go to this.

• 42:35Doug DeMuro?

Oh, man, it's gonna be, if you got a base, if you got a base automatic C7, sure. He's gonna park 14 of them in a row. We got every color, guys!

• 42:45Speaker 04

First of all, they call it Stingray.

• 42:46Speaker 05

No, it's gonna be all, it's gonna be all, it's gonna be all Porsches, it's gonna be indistinguishable from any other automotive event, it's gonna be all 997.

• 42:52Speaker 04

Brookline in Massachusetts in general has some cars that I'm into.

• 42:55Doug DeMuro?

• 43:31Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah?

• 43:31Speaker 04

  I'll sit like that.

• 43:32Doug DeMuro?

Yeah? So Jeff, don't bring the 575, leave the M5 at home.

• 43:36Speaker 04

You're talking about a coupe. Yeah, of course. There'll be legitimately a lot of really, really cool cars. Make sure you you register.

• 43:44Doug DeMuro?

This is June 27. If you're not going to it, who even are you?

• 43:48Speaker 04

  Right.

• 43:48Speaker 05

You should go. Lars Anderson is such a great person. I wish I could.

• 43:52Doug DeMuro?

Why would you go? What are you doing June 27?

• 43:53Speaker 05

I'm I'm I got things. I don't need to go see the cars.

• 43:57Speaker 04

Okay. We'll have a lot of people.

• 43:59Doug DeMuro?

I'm dead serious to ask you a question, dead serious.

• 44:01Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:02Doug DeMuro?

With your what car would you dream would show up? Like, you're sitting there doing the pointing.

• 44:09Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:09Doug DeMuro?

You know, because that's like his dream already. To be able to control. He moved cars and control.

• 44:14Speaker 05

But only way, yeah, exactly. The only way it could get better is if that he, you know, just just let me do it.

• 44:19Doug DeMuro?

  That is the only way.

• 44:21Speaker 05

  Say it to someone.

• 44:22Speaker 04

  Yeah. I would love a TZ3.

• 44:25Doug DeMuro?

  A TZ3, the Viper version?

• 44:26Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:27Doug DeMuro?

That's not, you're not into those. Admit that you know what that is.

• 44:29Speaker 04

How am I not into this?

• 44:30Doug DeMuro?

Admit that what you want to show up.

• 44:32Speaker 04

  It's an Italian-designed Viper.

• 44:32Doug DeMuro?

  You want an Asuna Sunrunner.

• 44:34Speaker 04

I see. Yeah. If you have an Asuna Sunrunner with, does it actually have an Asuna Sunrunner? Not a Geo Tracker, and I will accept.

• 44:41Doug DeMuro?

Can you pull up an Asuna Sunrunner for us?

• 44:44Speaker 04

  I want to. Asuna, A S U.

• 44:46Doug DeMuro?

A S U, and the U has two dots over it, okay? We call it an Oumloud.

• 44:50Speaker 05

  Oumloud, I know.

• 44:50Speaker 04

Okay, but I don't think you need it.

• 44:54Speaker 04

  It is a Geo Tracker.

• 44:55Doug DeMuro?

Asuna, excuse me. Excuse me, it is a Geo Tracker. This is an Asuna Sunrunner.

• 45:01Speaker 04

  GT.

• 45:02Doug DeMuro?

I can't believe that you would that you would say that you would denigrate the Asuna Sunrunner. Sean's sitting over here like, where is this going?

• 45:11Speaker 04

  I'm wondering the same.

• 45:12Doug DeMuro?

How are we only 15 minutes in? We're on the Asuna Sunrunner.

• 45:15Speaker 04

How did it take us this long to get here?

• 45:17Doug DeMuro?

Kenan, are you wondering what the hell this is?

• 45:18Speaker 05

I know what the tracker is.

• 45:20Speaker 04

  That's what this is.

• 45:21Doug DeMuro?

This is, I'm dead serious, okay? I'm going to tell this this is a short story, the Asuna.

• 45:25Speaker 04

You have boys in a short story.

• 45:26Doug DeMuro?

Have you ever heard of the Asuna brand?

• 45:27Speaker 04

  Not not till today?

• 45:28Doug DeMuro?

  There were a few Asunas.

• 45:30Speaker 04

  Were there really?

• 45:31Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Okay, here's what happened. General, Canada generally prefers smaller cars in the US. In general, Canada is a little bit more towards the European side of like littler cars. And so General Motors sensed that, and they decided that they would create a brand for Canada.

• 45:47Doug DeMuro?

Only small cars, but they would call it Asuna and give it sort of a European flair. Even though it was actually American cars rebadged from Japanese. Cause this started life as a Suzuki. And, uh, and they tried to trick the Canadians and the Canadians are savvy people. Alex Trebek, you can't, you can't fool.

• 46:05Speaker 04

Oh yeah. Did Alex Trebek have a Suzuki Sunfire?

• 46:08Doug DeMuro?

  No, he didn't.

• 46:08Speaker 04

  A Suna Sunfire?

• 46:09Doug DeMuro?

He didn't have an Asuna Sunfire because he knew point blank that this was an embarrassing attempt to trick him. Into believing this was some European brand.

• 46:18Speaker 05

You want to know what? You gotta get up pretty early in the morning to fool me there, bud.

• 46:20Doug DeMuro?

  Yup.

• 46:21Speaker 04

I have an important question for you. What was the Asuna Sunfire?

• 46:24Doug DeMuro?

  Pontiac Sunfire?

• 46:25Speaker 04

  No.

• 46:26Doug DeMuro?

  Pontiac, uh, Pontiac, uh, GT.

• 46:29Speaker 04

  The Zuzu Impulse.

• 46:31Doug DeMuro?

Pull up the Asuna Sunfire. I don't believe it. That was the GeoStorm.

• 46:35Speaker 05

  The Sunfire?

• 46:37Doug DeMuro?

No, the Impulse was the, uh.

• 46:39Speaker 04

  I mean, I, I wasn't a question.

• 46:43Doug DeMuro?

Look at that. Yeah. Click on that. Rebadged Zuzu Impulse. There's one. These are all just Zuzu. Oh yeah. Asuna. There it is.

• 46:48Speaker 04

No, there was one that wasn't.

• 46:50Doug DeMuro?

  With the umlaut, baby.

• 46:51Speaker 04

What do you think the Asuna SE or the GT depending on the trip?

• 46:55Doug DeMuro?

I think that was the, the Pontiac, um, uh, I don't remember. Le Mans?

• 47:00Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 47:01Doug DeMuro?

That little Korean made Pontiac Le Mans.

• 47:03Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 47:04Doug DeMuro?

This was a horrible situation and I'm so sorry that, that all of you have had to deal with it.

• 47:08Speaker 05

  Fascinating.

• 47:09Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, anyway.

• 47:11Speaker 05

So Filippo, you're gonna be at Lars Anderson.

• 47:14Speaker 04

Be at Lars Anderson. Thanks for getting us back on track.

• 47:17Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, we don't have the news. We gotta get deep. We're getting deep today.

• 47:20Speaker 04

Come check it out. Come say hi to myself and a bunch of our, uh, team members, as we like to say. And bring your cool car to the Lars Anderson.

• 47:27Doug DeMuro?

So here's what I suggest. First off, he said, come say hi to myself. So when you walk up to the Lars Anderson, walk up to Filippo and say, hi, myself.

• 47:35Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 47:36Doug DeMuro?

And then, and then walk up to the other Cars and Bids people and say, hi, team member. What's your name? Are you part of the team?

• 47:44Speaker 04

  I would love that.

• 47:45Doug DeMuro?

  Um, how many cars?

• 47:46Speaker 04

It's so nice. Uh, we have space. Uh, we're gonna cap it at 400.

• 47:50Doug DeMuro?

  400 cars?

• 47:52Speaker 04

Yeah, it's gonna be a big event. It's gonna be our largest ever, like, event that we singularly are hosting.

• 47:55Speaker 05

So if you're number 401, tough luck.

• 47:57Doug DeMuro?

Too bad. Do you think a Ferrari 400 is going to come?

• 48:00Speaker 05

There was one last time I was there.

• 48:02Doug DeMuro?

  Really?

• 48:02Speaker 05

It was a 550, which we sold on Cars and Bids, actually, later on.

• 48:05Doug DeMuro?

  Really?

• 48:05Speaker 05

Yeah, they've, they, it's real stuff that shows up. I think it was in a five when I was there.

• 48:08Speaker 04

I, I, if you're 401, I'm so sorry. I will have to kick out the Asuna Sunrunner for you. Asuna.

• 48:14Doug DeMuro?

I hope the Asuna Sunrunner shows up. You better take it.

• 48:17Speaker 05

I hope the entire Asuna, Asuna Sunrunner Club, which other isn't one, but I'm sure if, if there were one, they would show up.

• 48:23Doug DeMuro?

You think they're illegal in the US?

• 48:24Speaker 05

  Two guys in Calgary.

• 48:25Speaker 04

Huh? The car was federalized. But like, do you think that Asuna will provide a substantively similar?

• 48:30Doug DeMuro?

I think that it's been 25 years. I think we've already got that figured out.

• 48:34Speaker 04

  Good point, good point.

• 48:35Doug DeMuro?

  That's all passed.

• 48:36Speaker 04

Good point. You think any have survived Canada and New England?

• 48:38Speaker 05

  That is, yeah.

• 48:39Speaker 04

  It's like quite a combination.

• 48:40Doug DeMuro?

No. There are none of these that have survived anywhere.

• 48:43Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 48:43Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay, Lars Anderson, Filippo, thank you so much for promoting something. Uh, love to hear that.

• 48:49Speaker 04

I did really well today, too.

• 48:51Doug DeMuro?

He's gonna promote this on every pod for the next month, people. Get ready.

• 48:54Speaker 04

  Get ready, indeed.

• 48:55Doug DeMuro?

  Honestly?

• 48:56Speaker 04

Actually, I have sad news. I'm not on many podcasts in the next month.

• 48:59Doug DeMuro?

  Cause you're going to Italy.

• 49:00Speaker 04

  Cause I'm going to Italy.

• 49:01Doug DeMuro?

But he's gonna still promote the hell out of it. Folks, come to the Lars Anderson Museum just to put him out of his misery. Just to be like, Filippo, I did it.

• 49:08Speaker 04

  To be clear.

• 49:09Speaker 05

  Don't bring a Glock.

• 49:10Doug DeMuro?

  Don't kill him.

• 49:11Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 49:14Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay, Ken, and tell us.

• 49:16Speaker 05

  I hear he paints houses.

• 49:17Doug DeMuro?

Tell us about the 355 Revoluto.

• 49:19Speaker 05

Oh, yes. So recently, we've talked about this car before.

• 49:22Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 49:23Speaker 05

Um, now, the 355 Revoluto has been, man, it doesn't even.

• 49:27Doug DeMuro?

  Revolutionary War. Oh, wow.

• 49:29Speaker 05

  Oh, I can't spell.

• 49:30Doug DeMuro?

  355 Revoluto.

• 49:30Speaker 05

  Evoluto, yeah, it's the Evoluto.

• 49:32Doug DeMuro?

  The 355 Evoluto.

• 49:34Speaker 05

Now, I have two things at one.

• 49:35Doug DeMuro?

What is it? Tell us what it is.

• 49:37Speaker 05

So this is a 355 Restomod that was created by this, I believe it's an English company. Ian Callum redid the, and I'm.

• 49:43Doug DeMuro?

Ever since Singer happened, there have been all these companies that have popped up.

• 49:49Speaker 05

Who turned the word singer into a verb.

• 49:51Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 49:51Speaker 05

  They've singerized blah, blah, blah.

• 49:53Doug DeMuro?

  Blah, blah, blah.

• 49:53Speaker 05

  Singerized da, da, da.

• 49:54Doug DeMuro?

They've tried to make Restomod new, but. Old versions of now it's like dozens of different cars.

• 49:58Speaker 05

In fact, I have an entire list on my phone dedicated to Porsche because there's so many companies that do this. They pop up every day where they take some air-cooled 911, do some vague modifications to it and charge $750,000 for it. And people pay it.

• 50:10Doug DeMuro?

I will say, the more of these that pop up, the more I realize how hard it is to do what Singer does.

• 50:16Speaker 05

  Yes, to do it well.

• 50:18Doug DeMuro?

  To do it well.

• 50:18Speaker 05

Because my criticism of this now, I have a couple of things to say. One, the only one I had ever seen, I saw it in person at Car Week was the blue one.

• 50:25Doug DeMuro?

  Blue one.

• 50:26Speaker 05

Which is the one they did as the press image. But then I went to Motor Miami this year and I saw the red one. And I wonder if they're not the same car.

• 50:33Doug DeMuro?

Probably. Okay, but regardless of that, what's the problem with it? They're singarizing a 355. It sounds like a perfect situation. That car had a lot of problems.

• 50:40Speaker 05

You make it reliable. You know what? Yes, it did have a lot of problems. You're right. And they solved a couple of them. They didn't.

• 50:47Doug DeMuro?

  That's great.

• 50:48Speaker 05

So they solved like, they changed the wiring harness. I think the engine does come out more easily. But I asked the engineers, it's like, did you guys, you know, the car, the car is not, you know.

• 50:56Doug DeMuro?

The engine doesn't have to come out anymore.

• 50:57Speaker 05

No, that's the thing. So that's the thing. I, I asked the engineers, I said, so did you guys consider a chain drive system or something like that? So you, you know, don't have to take the engine out because other than catching on fire, that is one of the big issues it's known for. And they're like, oh, we looked into it and now it's just too expensive. But we did the design and I'm like, well, look, in my view, and I haven't driven one in fairness. But in my view, there are two things a 355 has to do. It has to look good and it has to sound good. And they screwed with the way it looks. And I think they did a

• 51:27Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 51:27Speaker 05

  Poor job.

• 51:28Doug DeMuro?

I actually like how it looks, but I think the, I, regular 355 looks so good. I don't think they've improved it for sure.

• 51:35Speaker 05

No, they took the logo off of the hood, which is weird. They don't want to get sued by Ferrari. But they kept the Ferrari logo. Well, I'm sure Ferrari is still going to, if they haven't already.

• 51:43Doug DeMuro?

I don't think it looks bad.

• 51:44Speaker 05

  I think it looks terrible.

• 51:45Doug DeMuro?

Especially from the rear. I think it looks pretty cool. I think that adding the little streaks back there like a, like an F40 is pretty neat.

• 51:51Speaker 05

The F40, you mean, oh, yeah.

• 51:53Doug DeMuro?

The 2020 GTO. And like the rear lights, I think is cool. I don't think they've improved on the look of a 355.

• 51:58Speaker 05

  Well, here's the.

• 51:59Doug DeMuro?

But I do think the key to rest, to singarizing a 355 is to

• 52:04Speaker 05

  I just.

• 52:04Doug DeMuro?

  Change the stuff that.

• 52:06Speaker 05

  Was bad.

• 52:06Doug DeMuro?

  Was bad.

• 52:07Speaker 05

  Yeah, and, and this-

• 52:08Doug DeMuro?

  And the style was not-

• 52:09Speaker 05

The style was one of the things it did better than anything else.

• 52:11Doug DeMuro?

You want to singularize the 355, well, you leave it looking exactly like it is, you just make it reliable.

• 52:16Speaker 05

Yeah, because if it could be reliable, which it probably can't, maybe they thought, you know, this, it can't be reliable.

• 52:21Speaker 04

I think that's exactly what they thought. They thought, we can actually make this good, we're gonna-

• 52:25Speaker 05

My point is, so you have to provide them with a 355, and then they charge you, I think it's like half a million dollars to do this, which is a tough sell.

• 52:34Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 52:34Speaker 04

  Go to that interior photo.

• 52:35Speaker 05

But, oh yeah, so the interior, so I, so-

• 52:38Doug DeMuro?

  It looks okay.

• 52:39Speaker 05

So they, they put a spot in here for you to put your phone, which is kinda cool, but then there's no, like, I can't zoom in, because thanks, Google. Um, but there's no, there's no wire, so it doesn't like charge or anything, it's just sitting there. So if your battery starts to go down as you're using your mask, which famously consumes a lot of power, oh, that's tough. So at least there's some Italian flair to it still. But the other thing is the gauges, you know, they famously like are showing 20 miles an hour, and like, still does that, didn't change that. So it's like, they still left some of the stuff, like, I just-

• 53:07Doug DeMuro?

They just wrapped it all in nice looking, you know, there's a lot of-

• 53:10Speaker 05

I just think they missed the point.

• 53:10Doug DeMuro?

You know, it's ironic, because Singer is known for this, but I had an old Defender, and there's a, I think that this all got started in the Land Rover community.

• 53:18Speaker 04

  I will agree with you.

• 53:19Speaker 05

  I don't disagree.

• 53:20Doug DeMuro?

There are all these companies that are trying to put lipstick on an old Defender, and it never works. And there are these rich guys who can't handle a real old Defender, who think that if they spend 300 grand, it'll make it good. And they quickly discover that, no, it's just a Defender with leather seats, it ain't, still ain't good, and that's the situation.

• 53:37Speaker 04

Unless you put an LS1 in it, and then it's still mediocre, but at least reliable.

• 53:40Doug DeMuro?

I think those cars still have problems, though. I think those guys still have issues. You got an aftermarket LS1, and that's dealing with all this electronics, and it just, it's the same situation. So why is this coming up now?

• 53:49Speaker 05

So, because it really made the rounds with a lot of journalists the other week, and it has been everywhere. They clearly put a lot of effort behind this, like, in, in marketing the car and things. And the Top Gear review, which I, I kept, the video of it was amazing, because they had a normal one next to it, and looking at them, it's like, damn, that looks bad.

• 54:08Doug DeMuro?

  Did everybody say positive things?

• 54:10Speaker 05

Mostly, yes, it seemed that way. I think Ferrar was the, I still haven't watched Ferrar's review, and I need to, but my, he also had two, because he could drive them back to back. The first Top Gear, when they did this, it's like, he admitted he'd never driven one, and then was driving this, and it's like, okay, well then your input's not valuable.

• 54:23Doug DeMuro?

One thing that's interesting about journalists driving cars like this is that, like, of course they like it. It gives them an opportunity to be in something analog. A lot of these people have never spent time in analog cars, and so it's like, oh my god, this is analog, it's so cool. Well- That's how all cars were at one point.

• 54:36Speaker 05

Well, that was the whole, I had, cause I had a long conversation with this engineer and our friends stood around as I just grilled this guy. Cause I owned one of these cars and it's one of my favorite cars. And at the end, he said, you know, we build this car to be an analog driving experience. So you can go out and really enjoy and rev the engine and row through on gears. And I said, so like the original, he went, exactly.

• 54:53Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 54:55Speaker 05

You know, I think I would just get an original and service it really well and keep the other.

• 54:59Doug DeMuro?

  It saves 700 Gs.

• 55:00Speaker 05

  Yeah, exactly.

• 55:01Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, I don't disagree.

• 55:03Speaker 05

But I also just don't think Ferraris are akin to the singerized thing. I think the Ferrari market is a lot more about preservation. Like that's what people value. I think in the end, a lot of people look at this as just a modified 355.

• 55:13Doug DeMuro?

Maybe. I think that doing it well with a 550 would be cool. Cause that's a soft car and I think that if you could make that car kinda cool. I wouldn't mess with much on the exterior. I actually like the idea of LED tails in the circles. I think that does modernize it a little bit.

• 55:27Speaker 05

Too big. I, the whole point of the car is not, you don't need a modern experience. If you improve the driving experience to make it feel more like a modern car, that's one thing.

• 55:36Doug DeMuro?

  That's what I would do with a 550.

• 55:37Speaker 05

I just wouldn't screw with the way it looked.

• 55:38Doug DeMuro?

You know what I would do? 550 with some new suspension.

• 55:41Speaker 05

Yeah, you know, that's, that's doable.

• 55:43Doug DeMuro?

  That's all. That's it.

• 55:44Speaker 05

  That's, that's doable.

• 55:45Doug DeMuro?

That's pretty doable. I think, yeah, I just.

• 55:47Speaker 05

Yeah, I think we could, we could make that happen.

• 55:49Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. I want to move on to our next conversation, which is my Ford GT color swap.

• 55:53Speaker 04

All right. You texted about this, but I, where's this coming from?

• 55:56Doug DeMuro?

Kenan, what do you think about this idea? So here's my, here's my thought. Yeah, Ford GT. Pull up the, we still have a white one. Pull up that one. About four days ago, I saw a Ford GT on the street.

• 56:07Speaker 04

  Yours?

• 56:08Doug DeMuro?

No, someone, some guy. It was red.

• 56:10Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 56:11Doug DeMuro?

And I, it hit me that I still prefer the lighter colors.

• 56:15Speaker 04

  Specifically you prefer the white.

• 56:17Doug DeMuro?

And personally, I have always, the Carrera GT, I now firmly believe that silver is the best color for that car and I have zero regrets. The Countach, I think white, which a lot of people agree with. But this car, I've never fallen in love, the 993 Arena Red, this car I've never fallen in love with my dark blue.

• 56:34Speaker 04

Yours is blue with white stripes.

• 56:36Doug DeMuro?

I just don't like a dark color. It hides the lines and the lines are cool. And the dark blue with white stripes cars are now selling for like a hundred thousand dollar premium over white.

• 56:45Speaker 04

  Really? Why?

• 56:46Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, because it's like the Shelby colors, like the Shelby colors, the American car racing colors, the Viper GTS, the Shelby Daytonas, the Shelby Cobra, you know.

• 56:55Speaker 05

And to be honest, it's the Jeremy Clarkson.

• 56:56Doug DeMuro?

It's the Jeremy Clarkson. It was one of the press colors. There's a lot of that. There's a lot of that kind of hype. But I'm honestly and truly starting to wonder if I should sell my car for what I think is about a half million, forty-five thousand miles and buy a low mile white car.

• 57:12Speaker 04

  For the same price.

• 57:13Doug DeMuro?

I honestly, I know it's not as prized by enthusiasts and collectors and all that. I just like it better. And at some point, isn't that the only thing that really matters? Yeah. Let me repaint.

• 57:23Speaker 04

  The transaction costs will.

• 57:25Doug DeMuro?

Transaction costs won't be there for sure.

• 57:27Speaker 05

  No.

• 57:27Doug DeMuro?

  But.

• 57:28Speaker 05

  If you want to go.

• 57:29Doug DeMuro?

I mean, I. Restart the clock at ten thousand miles. So I get to go, I mean, the car's been bulletproof, reliable. I don't have to do anything to it, but it'd be nice to restart the clock.

• 57:37Speaker 05

  I guess.

• 57:38Doug DeMuro?

Go through those same ten to thirty-five thousand miles again, or forty-five thousand miles.

• 57:42Speaker 05

This like, you know, you live in your house for a long time and then you look at your neighbor's house and it's like, yeah, I always preferred their color. And then you swap houses with your neighbors. It just seems like an insane move to get rid of it to get the same car, just in a different color.

• 57:53Doug DeMuro?

I love the car. I still love the car. I still drive it the most. I just have never, I have had that car now for coming up on eight years.

• 58:01Speaker 04

  A long time.

• 58:02Doug DeMuro?

And I have never loved the color, ever.

• 58:04Speaker 04

I'm shocked. Can I ask you a question? I don't see you drive the Ford GT that often.

• 58:10Speaker 05

I know, you claim to a lot. Well, actually, you know what? He sends a picture of him driving into tennis.

• 58:13Doug DeMuro?

I often drive it to places I wouldn't. So the reason that you don't see it in the office that much is because I can get away with bringing the Carrera GT and the Countach to the office. It's a really protected environment.

• 58:22Speaker 04

  Often, but yeah.

• 58:23Doug DeMuro?

Well, if I'm going to pick up the kids or something, I'm nine and three. But the Ford GT, I'll drive, like I drive the Ford GT, yeah, to tennis at least two days a week. The grocery store, like I'll do the Ford GT.

• 58:33Speaker 04

  Five miles a week.

• 58:33Speaker 05

Got it. You gotta have, it makes so much sense. You have to still have one. I understand what you're saying. Like, it is such a usable supercar.

• 58:42Doug DeMuro?

I love the car. I do drive it the most. From a mileage number, like, number of miles. I take it to Palm Springs when I'm filming a video out there. We drove it to, well, that's, that's 400, 500 miles round trip. What, you ever do that?

• 58:54Speaker 04

  Once a year, yes.

• 58:55Doug DeMuro?

Twice a year, maybe. That's, that's real. You know how my Ford GT owners are doing that?

• 59:00Speaker 04

No, zero. But I, I guess I'm wondering whether you would just consider, maybe it's time for a different experience.

• 59:07Doug DeMuro?

  There is no other car.

• 59:08Speaker 04

Come back to a white Ford GT later.

• 59:09Doug DeMuro?

There is no other car at $500,000 that I, that I prefer. None, not one.

• 59:13Speaker 05

It also like, just, like, we've had this discussion many times, but think about like, what experience would replace that in the garage that would make sense? It's like, there's nothing that is as iconic.

• 59:22Doug DeMuro?

  There is no other car.

• 59:23Speaker 04

Oh, I think it's patently insane to sell a car to get one of the same car, different color.

• 59:27Doug DeMuro?

Well, but, but there are some nice benefits to it. Resetting the mileage clock's a big deal. If I could sell it for 500 and buy another car for 500 and start again at 10,000 miles, that's a pretty cool trade.

• 59:36Speaker 05

But also, yeah, but also it actively will. You, so your theory is that the values will continue to rise and as you put miles on, it won't matter? Is that the idea? Cause I would think it would take a hit.

• 59:44Doug DeMuro?

I'm not, not trying to be a jerk, but at fi, at this value level, yeah, I think they will continue to rise, but it's not, I'm not as, I'm not as obsessive about this car rising. Do you know what I'm saying? I don't think it'll ever be a $5 million car. And so going from 5 to 550 versus the other car going from 5 to 580, it's not.

• 1:00:01Speaker 05

Right. I just mean, if you bought one with 10,000 miles on it, I guess with 10,000 miles, you don't have to care as much. If it were like a four mile car, then you'd.

• 1:00:07Doug DeMuro?

I would specifically, and, and actually I can't make that trade. The white cars with really low miles sell for more. But I think a white car with 12,000, 10, 12,000 miles, I would still want no Macintosh. Honestly, I prefer the base wheels too.

• 1:00:19Speaker 05

I know you do. I, I, was that the David Lee thing? And I, there was a, one with the BBSs and one with the base wheels next to one. I'm like, God, I can't believe you'd ever like the base.

• 1:00:28Doug DeMuro?

The, the concept car had the base wheels.

• 1:00:31Speaker 05

  That's why.

• 1:00:31Doug DeMuro?

And the base wheels look more like old school muscle car wheels. This car has the base wheels.

• 1:00:36Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:00:36Doug DeMuro?

They just look more like old school muscle car wheels to me. They, they're more correct for the car. The Ford GT, which is kind of a brute car, shouldn't have BBSs. It's just wrong. You know, mentally, it's just wrong.

• 1:00:47Speaker 05

  Yeah, but that looks right.

• 1:00:48Doug DeMuro?

  It does.

• 1:00:50Speaker 05

There's a reason they were popular.

• 1:00:51Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, and on the used market, base wheels sell for two grand. Oh, it's set. And BBSs sell for $25,000.

• 1:00:58Speaker 05

The market speaks loudly on that one. Okay, but fair enough. I don't know, I do, I've come to appreciate your Ford. I think you've always loved the Ford.

• 1:01:06Doug DeMuro?

You think it'd be crazy to do this?

• 1:01:08Speaker 05

  Yes, I think it's insane.

• 1:01:09Doug DeMuro?

  Why?

• 1:01:10Speaker 05

Well, what about, couldn't you wrap the car and change the color?

• 1:01:13Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but I actually think that financially, it may actually be cheaper to do what I'm talking about. And I would start the mileage clock over. Well, what's a new full color wrap? And I'd have to wrap the stripes.

• 1:01:23Speaker 04

Can I ask you a legitimate question? Do you think that it would feel like, I think for a lot of people, the experiences that you've had in the car are what makes it.

• 1:01:32Doug DeMuro?

Oh yeah, I don't have any of that.

• 1:01:33Speaker 04

  Okay, I thought not.

• 1:01:34Speaker 05

Emotional, but that's one thing, most car enthusiasts are emotional. Here, yeah, there's some contrarian things. You think those wheels are better, you think that color combination is better, you also think they're, you're not sentimental about cars at all.

• 1:01:46Doug DeMuro?

I don't think that the, thinking that the color combo is better is actually that contrarian. I think that most people would agree that showing the lines is cooler. I think that the blue white is more valuable for two reasons. Number one, because of the historic American racing color thing, and number two, because it's rarer. But I don't necessarily think that, I think a lot of people would agree with me, showing off the lines is cool. Red is the most popular color. There were a lot of people who wanted to show off the lines in red, and it's therefore the cheapest.

• 1:02:12Speaker 04

I do like the white with blue stripes. You would not be able to say that you've had it for eight years.

• 1:02:17Doug DeMuro?

I've had four GTs for eight, I've had two GTs, eight years!

• 1:02:21Speaker 04

I think it's insane because there's transaction. It's like moving down the block to like a slightly different house, because you want a ten square for a larger yard.

• 1:02:30Doug DeMuro?

Let me blow your mind here. Let's pretend there weren't any transaction costs. Let's just pretend there were none. Not that I'm advocating doing anything illicit.

• 1:02:39Speaker 04

Well, no, there's, there's still some transaction costs. There's time, there's maintenance you need to put in to get it up to your standards. There's some amount of time and energy and money, even if it's not substantial.

• 1:02:48Doug DeMuro?

There's real value in taking a 45,000 mile odometer, though, and bringing it back to 10,000 miles.

• 1:02:53Speaker 04

Assuming that 10,000 mile car has been maintained the way you'd want it to be.

• 1:02:56Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but it has. These cars have all been maintained well.

• 1:02:58Speaker 05

  Yeah, well, I mean.

• 1:03:00Doug DeMuro?

If it makes you, in general, my approach is if it makes you happy, you should do that.

• 1:03:04Speaker 05

I just don't see, I mean, other than the color, the mileage thing I think is kind of a moot point. I don't see what benefit you personally gain from driving one with lower mileage.

• 1:03:13Doug DeMuro?

Oh, just that it restarts. There's stuff that has worn and is wearing. The seats are wearing, etc. I get it all back to the beginning.

• 1:03:19Speaker 05

Maybe, maybe having noodles sit in it without any car cover on it has something to do with that.

• 1:03:23Doug DeMuro?

Nah, it's worth it. But I think that there's generally stuff in the car that is worn, that is wearing, that, that you start a little clock on 10,000 mile car again. You, you come back with the billet A arms again, which I had to lose because my, my grommets wore off and things like that. Like it's

• 1:03:36Speaker 05

Sure, but you know, rubber components time out over that period of time as well.

• 1:03:40Doug DeMuro?

I don't have, I won't have Camillo's Signatron and I can hunt him down again.

• 1:03:43Speaker 05

I'm sure, well, if you park it anywhere near him, I'll sign it.

• 1:03:45Doug DeMuro?

I love Camillo. Um, I, I don't think it's, I mean, I think it's insane, but if it makes you happy, you should do it. If you have a white blue and you want to trade it for a blue white. With three or four extra miles. Sent, well, I think people would make, I think if I did the whole thing, I could come out net zero. I think it would take me three months. Yeah. It would be a lot of work. I'd have to list mine, sell it. I would probably want to buy a white one first to make sure that I actually had the white one before I sold the blue one. Cause I can't be 4GT list. Can't be 4GT list. You understand. I obviously, yeah.

• 1:04:17Speaker 05

Oh, we're both 4GT list over here.

• 1:04:19Doug DeMuro?

Sean, you think I should do this? Okay, S E A N at carsandbids.com. If you've got a white blue and you want to trade it for a blue white, let's have a conversation. My car's perfect. It's a, it's a two owner car. It's perfect. Always been in Southern California. Took one road trip to Utah. I do think it would be sad to lose the color in your garage. All your cars are white or silver.

• 1:04:38Speaker 05

  That's true.

• 1:04:39Doug DeMuro?

Except for the 993. I got a, I got a 993 and another one of my talk cars segments today. Oh my God, is it happening? Yeah, I'm just gonna say it. You're gonna roll with it. We're finding some of the cars that I had announced I was looking for. We're finding some of the cars. Some of them might also be silver. We don't know. I've been looking for an E55 station wagon, a 2000 or 2001 E55 station wagon. Rami, my God. No, we got, oh, we did. Wow. But it's a 99.

• 1:05:08Speaker 05

  It's a shame you don't remember this.

• 1:05:09Doug DeMuro?

It is a shame. Rami, my automotive god, inbound motorsports Rami. We have found one. We have purchased it. Whoa. It's in Holland. Whoa, you purchased it? It happened? You know it as the Netherlands. I do. But I know it as a tunnel.

• 1:05:23Speaker 04

  Oh geez.

• 1:05:26Speaker 05

  That's a horrible joke.

• 1:05:27Doug DeMuro?

Thank you. We got one of these. This isn't it. Mine's mine's not a 99. I can't take these rocker panels.

• 1:05:35Speaker 04

This is such a questionable podcast this week.

• 1:05:38Doug DeMuro?

Uh, and we're gonna install a third row because it doesn't have one. But we bought a third row.

• 1:05:42Speaker 04

  Wow.

• 1:05:43Doug DeMuro?

  That's coming in the mail.

• 1:05:47Speaker 04

If Nick or Sean can do it.

• 1:05:49Doug DeMuro?

We've found another one of the cars I was looking for. I don't think we should announce.

• 1:05:52Speaker 04

We should announce that one. Keep that one going.

• 1:05:54Doug DeMuro?

Found another one of the cars I was looking for. Now, unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to tell all you about these things until August. Because I'm personally not gonna actually see the cars until then. So.

• 1:06:03Speaker 05

We're gonna see them before you do.

• 1:06:04Doug DeMuro?

Absolutely, you will. Uh, and you can give me your thoughts.

• 1:06:08Speaker 05

  Oh, I will.

• 1:06:09Doug DeMuro?

Ken doesn't like any of my cars.

• 1:06:10Speaker 05

Uh, it's not true. The 55 is cool. I don't get it, but I don't know why you need it.

• 1:06:15Doug DeMuro?

  I need a third row.

• 1:06:17Speaker 05

Right. Yeah. You don't have any.

• 1:06:19Doug DeMuro?

I need a third row. What do you mean? I don't have a car.

• 1:06:21Speaker 04

Are you legitimately not worried that apps without the 4GT, like all your too many of your cars will be white? If the 4GT becomes white, are you not worried that that's too much?

• 1:06:29Doug DeMuro?

Cars that I have purchased in this are not.

• 1:06:32Speaker 04

No, no, obviously I'm aware. But it's still not not that much color.

• 1:06:36Doug DeMuro?

  I, yeah, it's disappointing. It's disappointing. I don't like red on the 4GT.

• 1:06:40Speaker 04

If only two of your eight cars have a color that's not white or silver, that's not enough.

• 1:06:45Doug DeMuro?

I, that there is something to that.

• 1:06:47Speaker 04

So the 4GT is helping you get to three eight.

• 1:06:49Doug DeMuro?

  I agree. It's it's nice.

• 1:06:50Speaker 05

It's gonna be up well to me to get a car.

• 1:06:52Doug DeMuro?

You can't complain though about the Countach being white. That's not like one of those like, oh, we didn't get in a color like.

• 1:06:57Speaker 05

  Correct color.

• 1:06:57Doug DeMuro?

Countach is white, white. That's like a, you know what I mean? Like, that's it. That's correct. That's like how it's done.

• 1:07:04Speaker 04

And I am glad in retrospect the Sequoia is white because I was next to a TRD, a black TRD Pro Sequoia and the camo shows way more.

• 1:07:10Doug DeMuro?

It does. By the way, it's ice cap.

• 1:07:15Doug DeMuro?

That's the color. Uh, anyway, the point is, we're finding some cars. Okay.

• 1:07:20Speaker 04

  I'm excited for you.

• 1:07:21Doug DeMuro?

  And we're gonna do a 4GT color.

• 1:07:23Speaker 04

You're gonna have three new vehicles, maybe, maybe more.

• 1:07:26Doug DeMuro?

No, I'm not doing the 4GT. Uh, it's my guess.

• 1:07:30Speaker 04

  Yeah, I know.

• 1:07:30Doug DeMuro?

  That won't actually happen.

• 1:07:31Speaker 04

  I think that's awesome.

• 1:07:32Doug DeMuro?

But I do, I, I do sit in my garage and I look at it and I think, why, if I don't like the color of this car, do I not just, it's worth way more. Why don't I just do the easy thing?

• 1:07:42Speaker 04

That's a reasonable point. You could make it the color that you want.

• 1:07:45Doug DeMuro?

It's silly to, to not like the color.

• 1:07:49Speaker 04

I agree with you. You know what?

• 1:07:50Speaker 05

I don't, I don't agree with that. I think that it is important to buy, as someone who didn't buy the car in the color that he wanted to.

• 1:07:57Speaker 04

Yeah, the 355 and your M5.

• 1:07:59Speaker 05

And my M5, that's two now. Uh, yeah, cuz I wanted, I wanted a Rosa Corso when I bought this car. It looked like Rosa Corso in the picture, so I didn't even think to ask, it's such a common color.

• 1:08:08Doug DeMuro?

Your point is that I should do it.

• 1:08:10Speaker 05

I, well, I think you should have done it originally and just gotten the right color back then.

• 1:08:15Doug DeMuro?

That's definitely a mistake. The problem, the problem I had was I couldn't really afford a 4GT when I bought it, or I could barely. So I had to buy a high mileage car and there are just no high mileage cars. And these day, and at the time, there wasn't really a price delta for the colors. The Heritage room was more, but there, otherwise, there wasn't really a price change for the colors. And over time, the blue has really risen and the yellow has swollen, um, to the point where I can get away with this now. It'd be like driving a new 4GT again. A new old 4GT.

• 1:08:43Speaker 04

I just feel so ambivalent about this for you.

• 1:08:46Doug DeMuro?

Okay, fine. Fine. Then let's discuss the, uh, the other big, top cars segment. Ken, and tell us about M5 costs.

• 1:08:54Speaker 05

Yes, so recently, recently I put out a video on my car where I damaged it, unfortunately.

• 1:08:59Speaker 04

Yeah, we crashed into a parking brake.

• 1:09:01Speaker 05

  I didn't crash into.

• 1:09:02Speaker 04

  Sounds better.

• 1:09:03Speaker 05

Yeah, well, that's not what happened. I know you're a revisionist for history, but that, that's not what occurred here. Um, and, and everybody was actually very nice. The car is repaired. I, I did that through, through the video. And actually, I was very humbled. I was very grateful that so many people reached out. Thank you for all your sympathies. And a lot of people said, I was stunned the number of people texted me. It's like, I've done that. I've been in the.

• 1:09:22Speaker 05

However, immediately, of course, that might, as you might recall at the beginning of the year, I set out the goal of yet again, not spending more than $2,000 on my M5. Well, this little incident-

• 1:09:30Doug DeMuro?

But that does, this doesn't count.

• 1:09:31Speaker 05

Is it okay not to count that? Because I want to make sure with you guys and the rules-

• 1:09:36Doug DeMuro?

Well, we have a different opinion about this, okay?

• 1:09:39Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 1:09:39Doug DeMuro?

If it was me, I would have replaced the minimum number of things. If it was my E55 wagon, I would have replaced just enough-

• 1:09:46Speaker 04

  He would have-

• 1:09:47Doug DeMuro?

  Probably using zip ties.

• 1:09:48Speaker 04

Yeah. He would have taken the front end from an E320. It would have been cheaper.

• 1:09:52Doug DeMuro?

So, the question I think is, how far beyond what you had to do, did you do? That's when it starts to count against you.

• 1:09:58Speaker 04

  I like that.

• 1:09:59Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:59Speaker 05

Well, the bumper was split in half. We can agree that I needed to replace-

• 1:10:02Doug DeMuro?

  Needed a bumper.

• 1:10:02Speaker 05

So that's $1,000 for that, for just the bumper.

• 1:10:05Doug DeMuro?

Fender liners is a different conversation.

• 1:10:07Speaker 05

That's, yeah, but that was the-

• 1:10:10Doug DeMuro?

I would argue from looking at the photos, that the fender liners probably didn't get damaged.

• 1:10:15Speaker 05

Well, they all, the problem was, were the metal on the two barbs on this thing I pulled everywhere, caught it, it ripped three components at one time, in addition to the bumper. So it ripped, it split the tabs off of the brake duct, it ripped the belly pan, which was attached to that, and that also attaches to the fender liner and it ripped that off as well.

• 1:10:32Speaker 04

What could super glue have done for you?

• 1:10:34Doug DeMuro?

  Or zip ties.

• 1:10:35Speaker 04

  Or zip ties.

• 1:10:35Speaker 05

Not much, because it ripped off all the mounting points.

• 1:10:38Doug DeMuro?

Well, let me rephrase. What could zip ties have done for me or Filippo?

• 1:10:42Speaker 05

Ask not what you can do for zip ties.

• 1:10:45Doug DeMuro?

Like, if I was doing it, keep in mind, I once zip tied a painted front bumper to a body of an Audi A4 that I had.

• 1:10:51Speaker 04

One time I made a throttle cable-

• 1:10:53Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, for years.

• 1:10:54Speaker 05

  For years.

• 1:10:55Speaker 04

We used a key hook for a throttle cable.

• 1:10:57Doug DeMuro?

We one time, my throttle cable snapped and we used a keychain.

• 1:11:00Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:11:01Doug DeMuro?

We drove around for a whole-

• 1:11:01Speaker 05

Well, no, that makes sense. That was that you needed to, that, you're on an island-

• 1:11:05Speaker 04

I personally would have left it that way. I think Doug considered it.

• 1:11:08Speaker 05

No, he had fixed it properly, in the end.

• 1:11:10Doug DeMuro?

Well, in the end, I only fixed it properly because I had like months where I wasn't with the car, and it was at a mechanic, and I was like, hey, why don't you just fix this? I would have driven on that keychain forever. Oh, but then, do you remember what other, what also happened? We went to check on the keychain, holding the throttle cable together-

• 1:11:25Speaker 05

  Stretched.

• 1:11:26Doug DeMuro?

And we pulled the hood release, and the hood release cable snapped. That was Land Rover ownership.

• 1:11:31Speaker 05

  That's a quality-

• 1:11:32Doug DeMuro?

So we couldn't check on it. So then I had to tell the guy, why don't you fix both these things?

• 1:11:35Speaker 04

So, what's the answer to how much of this is discretionary, we'll say?

• 1:11:41Doug DeMuro?

  He's gonna say zero.

• 1:11:42Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:11:43Doug DeMuro?

To him, it had to be done.

• 1:11:44Speaker 05

I'd probably seventeen hundred out of this discussion.

• 1:11:45Speaker 04

  Of the total.

• 1:11:46Doug DeMuro?

Okay, so you're at seventeen hundred and then there's more maintenance necessary upcoming.

• 1:11:50Speaker 05

Yes, so I've driven the car a lot recently, which has been awesome. I mean, it's been, I mean genuinely, it hasn't given me a single issue. However, I did start to notice there are like a couple of little things that are starting to creep up. One is like.

• 1:11:59Doug DeMuro?

Do we think we need to address the little things? Let me, let me, let me rephrase it in a different way. Do we think we need to address the little things?

• 1:12:08Speaker 05

Well, one is a click coming from the front suspension, which I think, so I, I think that should be addressed. Um, the other, what was the other thing?

• 1:12:17Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:12:20Speaker 05

Oh, the, the exhaust. Um, there is, there's a crack that had formed around one of the, um, welds near the kind of the, uh, the catalytic converters, and that has since spread around the world. So you can hear it when I'm like, when I start the car, it's a lot louder than it once was.

• 1:12:34Doug DeMuro?

  I have any.

• 1:12:35Speaker 05

  It's, but it's.

• 1:12:36Speaker 04

Phil Chung has a exhaust shop welder guy who will take care of that.

• 1:12:39Speaker 05

Yeah, I take, I, I respect, no disrespect, so I take my E thirty-nine to one place for service and that's.

• 1:12:46Doug DeMuro?

I would argue this is part of the problem.

• 1:12:48Speaker 05

  No.

• 1:12:48Doug DeMuro?

  With the cost.

• 1:12:50Speaker 04

  Oh, we've gotten so.

• 1:12:50Speaker 05

No, no, but, no, the, so that needs to be welded because I can smell it like when I like come up to a stop and I'm like, oh, yeah. It's like, oh, that's, that's my car.

• 1:12:58Speaker 04

He's polluting our state, polluting our state.

• 1:13:00Speaker 05

  Exactly. And I don't wanna.

• 1:13:01Speaker 04

  It's gonna be a gross.

• 1:13:01Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, so.

• 1:13:02Speaker 05

So those are like, those two, those are the two things.

• 1:13:04Speaker 04

  That's easy.

• 1:13:04Speaker 05

I don't think it's that bad. Really, other than that, it's like, I can't find anything else wrong with the car.

• 1:13:08Speaker 04

That's great. So you're at like, what, three grand?

• 1:13:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:13:11Speaker 04

You're only at fifty percent above your budget for the year, uh, five months in.

• 1:13:15Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:13:15Speaker 04

  You're good, well.

• 1:13:16Speaker 05

I don't think it's that bad, but I do think those things should be.

• 1:13:18Speaker 04

  No, it's not that bad.

• 1:13:19Doug DeMuro?

It's not great. You're gonna end up another ten thousand dollar a year here.

• 1:13:22Speaker 05

No, no, we're not gonna have another.

• 1:13:24Doug DeMuro?

I would rather us get a Viper and not have a ten thousand dollar M five year.

• 1:13:28Speaker 05

I don't think we're gonna have a ten thousand dollar M five year.

• 1:13:29Doug DeMuro?

Here's what you do. You get this, you get this Subaru Samba.

• 1:13:32Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:13:33Doug DeMuro?

  As a daily.

• 1:13:34Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:13:34Speaker 05

  Right.

• 1:13:34Speaker 04

  It has wood paneling.

• 1:13:35Speaker 05

Like our friend Kevin, I daily in the sense that I would drive it once on a day and that would be my daily. I think it's very cute, but this is might be a bit much for me.

• 1:13:44Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 1:13:44Speaker 05

But somebody made the point recently that that's like, Kenan, I think you should get a a Macan Turbo or this or that as a daily. It's like, I just, I still don't want to do that because I think that while I'm single and like, and youngish.

• 1:13:56Doug DeMuro?

You should drive a four door sedan. I agree.

• 1:13:58Speaker 05

Right. Exactly. Well, exactly. That's exactly the point though. My second car that I should buy should be, because I am aware of using the M5, like, like, but I think that having the second car should be a sports car. I should own more sports cars. And I still want a Viper and I've found one. Um, but I'm, I'm pausing just a little bit. Um, but I have found one that I think is like.

• 1:14:17Doug DeMuro?

  Pausing? Press play.

• 1:14:19Speaker 05

  Nice. Well done.

• 1:14:20Doug DeMuro?

  What do you mean?

• 1:14:21Speaker 05

  Well.

• 1:14:22Doug DeMuro?

We all want to get a Viper. The whole audience wants to get a Viper. That Countach rug wants to get a Viper. We're ready. It's talking right now.

• 1:14:29Speaker 05

I do. I, I am going to get one. I just, you'll, you'll see. I am going to get one though. I, I am hot on the trail of one, so.

• 1:14:35Doug DeMuro?

I see a note here about an Aston Martin Vanquish.

• 1:14:37Speaker 05

I have this head car that's gonna be after the Viper already.

• 1:14:40Doug DeMuro?

  What's the O2?

• 1:14:41Speaker 05

  I will.

• 1:14:42Doug DeMuro?

You told me they're horrible to own.

• 1:14:43Speaker 05

Yeah. Well, I like cars that are bad to own.

• 1:14:45Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but that car is probably tough. Dude, I'll tell you something. I drove this one, this one. It was so amazing.

• 1:14:51Speaker 05

Yeah, they are unbelievable to drive. That engine, that sonorous V12, oh, sound that it makes is so good.

• 1:14:58Doug DeMuro?

Did you enjoy driving it, Ryan Lopez?

No, I mean, it's a car. It's, he wasn't, he wasn't alive. He wasn't alive when this thing was made.

• 1:15:36Doug DeMuro?

No, you took those photos though.

• 1:15:37Speaker 05

  He did, he did.

• 1:15:38Doug DeMuro?

You liked it? What about the trans? It's quirky. You, you get us, would you swap it?

• 1:15:43Speaker 05

Well, that's the thing. It's like, I'm, would, I want an S, to be clear. I think that, because I like the S a lot more.

• 1:15:48Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, just screwed up the wheels.

• 1:15:50Speaker 05

There's a big jump in power though.

• 1:15:52Doug DeMuro?

It was a big power jump. It screwed up the wheels.

• 1:15:54Speaker 05

Well, I think if you're gonna do it, own the one you want, and I want an S, and I, I don't think the wheels are screwed.

• 1:16:00Doug DeMuro?

Own the white one. Put a base wheel on.

• 1:16:01Speaker 05

  Yeah, put a. Base wheels.

• 1:16:03Doug DeMuro?

Those, it just did like DB9 wheels. Go back to the, to me, the original Vanquish wheels meant business.

• 1:16:08Speaker 05

  I don't think they're that different.

• 1:16:11Doug DeMuro?

  You know, I've

• 1:16:11Speaker 05

  To be completely

• 1:16:12Doug DeMuro?

Read this thing. I don't know where I read it. My friend Perry sent to me.

• 1:16:15Speaker 05

That Pierce Brosnan got one of these after Die Another Day. He was given one. Yes, he, he.

• 1:16:20Doug DeMuro?

And then he lost it in a garage fire.

• 1:16:22Speaker 05

Correct, but he was, the fire department was able to dig out the kick plates and it said it was made, you know, for Pierce Brosnan. So you're taking that and then at the end of the video he goes, and that's life.

• 1:16:35Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, this would be cool.

• 1:16:36Speaker 05

But I, I think this is the next car for him.

• 1:16:38Doug DeMuro?

  540 is cool as hell.

• 1:16:39Speaker 05

I just think Astons are such an incredible value.

• 1:16:41Doug DeMuro?

  And this is the Aston.

• 1:16:42Speaker 05

Yeah, this is the one because it's like this competed with the 575 and I love both of those cars.

• 1:16:46Doug DeMuro?

And honestly, I prefer driving this.

• 1:16:47Speaker 04

  For a third.

• 1:16:48Doug DeMuro?

Even Filippo would like this car.

• 1:16:50Speaker 04

I don't, I've never loved how the Vanquish.

• 1:16:52Doug DeMuro?

  He doesn't even like this.

• 1:16:54Speaker 05

  It isn't.

• 1:16:54Speaker 04

  Sorry.

• 1:16:55Speaker 05

I wish you liked something, Filippo, other than your 911, which I'm glad you like.

• 1:16:58Doug DeMuro?

I gotta tell you guys a story about, I got two stories for you, actually. One is about Freddie.

• 1:17:02Speaker 04

  Oh, Freddy Tavarish.

• 1:17:03Doug DeMuro?

Freddy Tavarish. We had Hoovy on pod last week. Uh, God love Hoovy.

• 1:17:07Speaker 04

  Love him.

• 1:17:07Doug DeMuro?

We haven't recorded that pod yet. I hope it all works. He may not have been on.

• 1:17:10Speaker 05

It's gonna be Hoovy and Nick.

• 1:17:12Doug DeMuro?

It's gonna be something. I'm gonna have to, I'm gonna be the sane one.

• 1:17:15Speaker 05

It's gonna be something to watch. Or it was something to watch.

• 1:17:18Doug DeMuro?

I don't know. I'm just gonna have to moderate it.

• 1:17:20Speaker 04

  Um, jeez.

• 1:17:21Doug DeMuro?

But so, so anyway, so Hoovy's on pod, Hoovy's been out here, Hoovy's hangs out with us. And I get a text yesterday from Freddie. Tavarish, who, I'm not gonna say he's a chaotic person. I'll let you make that determination.

• 1:17:35Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:17:36Doug DeMuro?

He sends me a text and he says, um, he says, hey, he says, uh, I'm on the, I'm on a plane to San Diego. You around? And I'm like, Freddie, there was a time when I was 19 where my life worked that way. You could just send me a text and be like, yo, I'm coming. Was hang. But like, I got kids. I do a lot of kid stuff in the school. We got, we got a lot of video scheduling to keep here. We got a lot of crew. There's no like, hey man, let's chill. And I was like, that's not really how it works here. I'm so sorry. I would love to hang, but I just don't have time. I may be a little bit more noticed. Because I assume he didn't just get on the plane.

• 1:18:14Speaker 05

  Right.

• 1:18:15Doug DeMuro?

I assume he had booked the flights some amount of time.

• 1:18:18Speaker 05

That's an assumption I would not make. If anybody shows up to the airport and buys a ticket from the gate agent.

• 1:18:23Doug DeMuro?

Freddie. So I said, Freddie, I'm so sorry we're missing you. I would love to have you on the pod. I said, next time, give me more notice. And Freddie goes, how much more notice would you need? Like, he's incredulous that I can't make this happen for him. And I said, Freddie, more notice than I'm on the plane. And he replies, but measured in days, what number would that be?

• 1:18:45Speaker 05

  What is your reply?

• 1:18:45Doug DeMuro?

I said, like, give me at least a week. I don't know. Like, that's what people do. Like, if I'm going to see somebody, I don't just call them and say, hey, I'm on the plane. I hope you can accommodate. I'm going, I'm coming to see you in New York. Are you there? You text beforehand. Have you ever, in any moment since you became an adult, had a situation where you were flying on an airplane to visit someone and you hadn't yet informed them?

• 1:19:07Speaker 05

I don't think his whole purpose was just here to visit you.

• 1:19:10Doug DeMuro?

That's, of course, that's true. It was not his whole purpose. I'm sure he has some things to do. I'm sure he has cruises to go on. But, um, that's Freddie Tavares. That's my Tavares. And people who are wondering why we have Hoovy on the pod and not Freddie, Hoovy schedules us. It's still very difficult, okay? He won't text Sean back. He won't reply to our emails. I gotta text him. It's a disaster. But we kind of narrow it. We get it down. And on the day of the pod, we just sort of roll the dice and hope he walks in at the right time. But Freddie, it's not even that. We can't even get that.

• 1:19:43Speaker 05

Don't you think that he might be in last week's podcast?

• 1:19:45Doug DeMuro?

  Just Freddie?

• 1:19:46Speaker 05

  Show up.

• 1:19:47Doug DeMuro?

Freddie might walk into the Hoovy pod. I have no idea.

• 1:19:51Speaker 05

Fred, it's like the beginning of a bad joke. Freddie, Hoovy, and Nick.

• 1:19:55Doug DeMuro?

Freddie, Hoovy, and Nick walk into the podcast. Our marketer report is brought to you by Ryan Lopez.

• 1:20:02Speaker 05

Which is to say, we're gonna talk about something completely different.

• 1:20:04Doug DeMuro?

So, I want to talk F90 M5. Pull up that. That is tremendously interesting.

• 1:20:09Speaker 05

Yeah, so we recently sold an F90 M5 for $29,250. Now, I will say, it did have a lot of miles on it and had an accident in its past and modifications. But in my view, this is the floor now. Because this is not an old car in my. I mean, it's eight years old.

• 1:20:23Doug DeMuro?

That's the, that's the, that's the example with high mileage and an accident that's gonna hit the floor.

• 1:20:27Speaker 05

  Yeah, hit the floor.

• 1:20:28Doug DeMuro?

But dude, I remember reviewing this when it was a new car at Crevié BMW in Orange County. It was a brand new with a 140 sticker. It was the coolest thing anybody could imagine. The new M5 is here. It was all wheel drive. It was this amazing, you could disconnect the all wheel drive, remember that?

• 1:20:41Speaker 05

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:20:41Doug DeMuro?

  Rear wheel drive.

• 1:20:42Speaker 05

  600 horsepower.

• 1:20:43Doug DeMuro?

I, I can't believe, like, no car, I think, has made my career feel long to me.

• 1:20:49Speaker 05

  More than that, yeah, yeah.

• 1:20:51Doug DeMuro?

It's like, oh my god. Like, I've been around long enough to have, like, reviewed and now seen the depreciation on this.

• 1:20:57Speaker 05

  Dude, I know, I mean, I, I, I think, I mean, C cars from 2015, that was a long time ago.

• 1:21:03Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:03Speaker 05

It's, you know, we're getting old, man. But I think unbelievable, these cars are worth that.

• 1:21:07Doug DeMuro?

  Unbelievable.

• 1:21:08Speaker 04

  Crazy.

• 1:21:09Doug DeMuro?

Especially when you consider it's, what was it? It was 600, something crazy.

• 1:21:13Speaker 04

  600 horsepower, yeah.

• 1:21:13Speaker 05

  Yeah, 600 horsepower, yeah.

• 1:21:15Doug DeMuro?

It, just an unbelievable, unbelievably fast, 650 pound.

• 1:21:18Speaker 04

Full of cars that sold for more in the same day.

• 1:21:20Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:21Speaker 04

  A 2015 automatic Chevy SS.

• 1:21:24Speaker 05

  Oh, an auto Chevy.

• 1:21:25Speaker 04

An auto Chevy SS was sold for four grand more.

• 1:21:28Doug DeMuro?

A 2015, so four years older.

• 1:21:31Speaker 04

  For 12, 13% more.

• 1:21:33Speaker 05

  And a tip also.

• 1:21:33Doug DeMuro?

And a tip. And it's selling for, I mean, that tells you how the market, how afraid of these cars the market is.

• 1:21:39Speaker 05

And maybe, maybe rightfully so. I don't really, I don't know much about a fine.

• 1:21:42Doug DeMuro?

It's such a beast, this car.

• 1:21:44Speaker 05

  I know, it's a monster.

• 1:21:44Doug DeMuro?

  A beast.

• 1:21:45Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:21:46Doug DeMuro?

And like, I, people are gonna write in, Doug's hyping the market because they're unreliable. Probably they are unreliable. I don't know. It's $29,000 though. To, to me, when I see one of these on the road, I'm still like, wow, new M5. It's not even the new M5 anymore. There's a newer M5.

• 1:21:59Speaker 04

  There's a newer M5.

• 1:21:59Doug DeMuro?

I think that's an amazing five.

• 1:22:01Speaker 05

I think it's an incredible value. I really do.

• 1:22:03Doug DeMuro?

  You buy one? No.

• 1:22:04Speaker 04

  That can be a daily.

• 1:22:05Doug DeMuro?

You, you just had a tip.

• 1:22:06Speaker 05

I did, and I guess what I did? I sold it.

• 1:22:08Doug DeMuro?

You've had more tips this year than I have.

• 1:22:11Speaker 05

  Uh.

• 1:22:12Speaker 04

  You own three.

• 1:22:13Speaker 05

  You own three.

• 1:22:14Speaker 04

I don't know who you is. I ain't own any tips. What tips I got? Well, you're about to have a fourth.

• 1:22:19Doug DeMuro?

  What? What? Don't reveal anything.

• 1:22:22Speaker 05

Mercedes Benz, great, traditional Mercedes Benz. Unless you're gonna manual swap it like Crazy Nick, but.

• 1:22:27Doug DeMuro?

  I'm not.

• 1:22:28Speaker 05

Nah, I didn't think you would. Um, but yeah, unbelievable value here. I just. So cool, but we

• 1:22:32Doug DeMuro?

  You think about one?

• 1:22:33Speaker 04

Oh, absolutely not, but it is quite a deal.

• 1:22:35Speaker 05

  He's not an M5 guy.

• 1:22:36Speaker 04

Can I say, a lot of the cars in the genre are quite substantial deals.

• 1:22:41Speaker 05

Yeah, they mean the sedan, high-power sedans.

• 1:22:43Speaker 04

Sedans and coupes, luxury sedans and coupes that are just

• 1:22:46Doug DeMuro?

  Pull up that M850.

• 1:22:47Speaker 04

  Yeah, the M850 we sold.

• 1:22:48Doug DeMuro?

Sean's out here looking for a M2, by the way.

• 1:22:51Speaker 04

  AI.

• 1:22:52Doug DeMuro?

If you have a Long Beach blue M2 with some miles, maybe it's been hit, maybe it's got some bad wheels on it, no cats.

• 1:23:00Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:23:00Doug DeMuro?

Sean at carsandbids.com, S-E-A-N at carsandbids.com, that's what he's looking for. He doesn't know it yet, but what he wants to pay, that's what he's looking for. You agree, right?

• 1:23:08Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:23:09Speaker 05

Of course, he's stunk and end up with, I want to know what he ends up with.

• 1:23:11Doug DeMuro?

Well, Fleek just made the point that for the same money as an M2, you could have this.

• 1:23:17Speaker 04

  Which surely has a hundred-something thousand-dollar MSRP.

• 1:23:20Doug DeMuro?

Totally, and it's not the athletic, it's not the athlete that the M2 is, but Sean's an appearance guy. And he would like to ride around in this, everybody thinks he's rich.

• 1:23:27Speaker 05

Or it looks like a Mustang.

• 1:23:29Speaker 04

  And it has everything.

• 1:23:30Speaker 05

  Side profile.

• 1:23:30Speaker 04

Looks like a luxury Mustang, that was the best thing about him.

• 1:23:33Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:33Speaker 04

Has everything. You can also, if you want to be in the same price point, we sold an S63.

• 1:23:37Doug DeMuro?

What's the horsepower on this M850?

• 1:23:39Speaker 05

  Serious, I believe. 523, 550 pounds.

• 1:23:42Doug DeMuro?

I'm not trying to be, I'm not trying to make it seem like I'm hyping these cars and I want to kill everybody's financial situation, but how unreliable can it be at six years old? Seriously?

• 1:23:51Speaker 05

BMW just say, hold my beer.

• 1:23:52Doug DeMuro?

I know, I know, you're right. But like, really, it's six years old.

• 1:23:55Speaker 05

20 miles. 56, 56,000 miles, you gotta imagine.

• 1:23:58Doug DeMuro?

How bad can that car be, truthfully? Are we talking major engine trouble at six years and 56,000 miles?

• 1:24:03Speaker 05

If it hasn't been tuned, like, I wouldn't think so. I, I'd like to think, I'd like to think a manufacturer that's been around for over 100 years can make an engine with all their experience.

• 1:24:15Doug DeMuro?

This isn't like a high-performance, you probably was driven pretty relaxed, you know?

• 1:24:20Speaker 05

Right, because it's the, it's the end.

• 1:24:23Speaker 04

  It's the end, yeah.

• 1:24:25Doug DeMuro?

It, it's, this isn't M850, it's not like an M, it's not like an ultra-high-performance car. That M2 that Sean wants has been beat on, you know?

• 1:24:31Speaker 04

  But, yep.

• 1:24:32Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. This car probably has been sort of chilled in.

• 1:24:35Speaker 05

Yeah, I would, I'd like to think so. Occasional hard accelerations.

• 1:24:38Speaker 04

Can I pause one more for Sean?

• 1:24:39Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:39Speaker 04

  Look at C43.

• 1:24:41Doug DeMuro?

Uh, that's not, Sean has no interest in that. For $23,000.

• 1:24:48Speaker 05

  Of course it has that.

• 1:24:49Doug DeMuro?

I'm gonna tell you the difference between you and Sean. It's a four second zero second. I'm gonna tell you the difference between you and Sean. 380 horsepower. You're a deal shopper. You will change the entire thing you want to buy if it just means you can get a good deal.

• 1:25:00Speaker 05

Yes, but Sean, Sean is in a lurch right now. He needs a car and he sent some wild options to me.

• 1:25:08Doug DeMuro?

I'll tell you what's happened. Sean is selling his bad color G-Wagon.

• 1:25:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:25:11Doug DeMuro?

And so because he's taken all the photos and taken the, cleaned it up and done all that, he can't drive it anymore. He's, cause if he crashes it at this point, it's a problem.

• 1:25:19Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:25:19Doug DeMuro?

So his bad color G-Wagon is sitting in our office and Sean has now realized he's left with a 360 and an old Alfa and he's like, oh my God, I need a car.

• 1:25:27Speaker 05

Is, does that why he shows up in the Lexus LS430?

• 1:25:30Doug DeMuro?

Yes. Or the SC430? He's borrowed from his parents. He's borrowed a Lexus SC430 on dinner plates.

• 1:25:36Speaker 05

The man owns a Ferrari, a vintage Alfa Romeo and a G-Wagon. He had to borrow a Lexus from his parents.

• 1:25:40Doug DeMuro?

  That's what's happened. That's a tough.

• 1:25:41Speaker 05

  That is motivation.

• 1:25:42Doug DeMuro?

That's why he's low balling people on Facebook Marketplace left and right with reckless abandon. He told us he insisted on a four seat car. He sent us a screenshot. He low ball the guy on it with a C7.

• 1:25:54Speaker 05

He, he's no longer, he's like medium balling now. Cause he's getting desperate.

• 1:25:57Doug DeMuro?

He's getting desperate. The longer he drives that SC430, the desperder he'll get. Uh, I want to talk about the F12. Pull that F12.

• 1:26:04Speaker 05

  Yeah, unbelievable result, I think.

• 1:26:07Doug DeMuro?

  Truly agreed.

• 1:26:09Speaker 05

So yeah, so 2014, so first year production, F12 Berronetta.

• 1:26:12Doug DeMuro?

  Ryan Lopez is eating.

• 1:26:16Speaker 05

Glad we're here for Ryan Lopez's entertainment.

• 1:26:18Doug DeMuro?

I look over, he's just crunching.

• 1:26:20Speaker 05

Well, soon you're just gonna hear as he opens, he opens a cold one.

• 1:26:23Doug DeMuro?

What's the problem? I don't understand. I went upstairs, the guy wasn't there.

• 1:26:29Speaker 05

  The next day.

• 1:26:32Speaker 05

But yeah, back to Ferraris. So, so yeah, so this, this 14 F12, so F12 Berronetta, fantastic car. They've been coming up in vaire recently because I think the new F1s are so damn expensive.

• 1:26:43Doug DeMuro?

Do you worry that we've missed the boat here?

• 1:26:46Speaker 05

I worry more about 599s, but uh, yes.

• 1:26:48Doug DeMuro?

But, but this car is better.

• 1:26:50Speaker 05

It is, but. The dual clutches, like I would still prefer manual conversion.

• 1:26:56Doug DeMuro?

I would prefer manual conversion, for sure.

• 1:26:58Speaker 05

But the thing with this car, so it sold for $311,000 for 16,000 miles on a vinyl wrap, which I was surprised, because normally that brings quite a bit less usually, unless you have like pictures before and all that stuff.

• 1:27:11Doug DeMuro?

  I was, I was.

• 1:27:11Speaker 05

But I think this number is strong.

• 1:27:14Doug DeMuro?

The most recent comps, I was looking earlier, are in the 230 to 250 range.

• 1:27:19Speaker 05

I just, I really think that it is because, the new Dodici Chalindri.

• 1:27:23Doug DeMuro?

  Beautiful car.

• 1:27:24Speaker 05

  Is, but it is expensive.

• 1:27:25Doug DeMuro?

  It's so expensive.

• 1:27:26Speaker 05

Really expensive. The 812 also was very expensive and they still.

• 1:27:30Doug DeMuro?

  They, they are.

• 1:27:31Speaker 05

I think a lot of people who, even like people who've been Ferrari customers for years, can't justify spending, what, $600, $700,000 on a car after you've optioned it.

• 1:27:40Doug DeMuro?

Especially because this car offers basically the same performance level. If we're being honest, I know the Dodici Chalindri is faster, but like not usually.

• 1:27:49Speaker 05

Yeah, but it's still 730 horsepower.

• 1:27:52Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:52Speaker 05

Yeah, I mean, it's a lot of power. And, you know.

• 1:27:55Doug DeMuro?

And it's still a dual clutch. And these are relatively reliable. The interior looks fairly modern. I mean, I don't know.

• 1:28:00Speaker 05

  I think it's a tremendous.

• 1:28:02Speaker 04

Like for 300 something in Ferrari world, you get what, a 296 if you want newer? Like that's.

• 1:28:07Doug DeMuro?

You could probably get a 296.

• 1:28:10Speaker 04

The last 296 that we had was, failed to be reserved, but was market correct around 350.

• 1:28:15Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:15Speaker 04

  345.

• 1:28:15Doug DeMuro?

You, 311 is, I don't know if the 296 is quite there, but in that range.

• 1:28:19Speaker 05

  But this.

• 1:28:19Speaker 04

  But I would rather have a V12.

• 1:28:21Speaker 05

  Of course, it's a V12, yeah.

• 1:28:22Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:22Speaker 05

  This is a secret.

• 1:28:23Doug DeMuro?

Most people wouldn't, to be clear. I mean, the V12s usually get depreciated like crazy as most people go after the mid-engines.

• 1:28:28Speaker 04

But now, at this point, when all.

• 1:28:29Doug DeMuro?

  This thing is so cool.

• 1:28:30Speaker 05

Yeah, it, it, I mean, it's still a lot of money.

• 1:28:33Doug DeMuro?

Have we messed up here and not bought F12s and they were merely 200? I thought we would be able to sit and just watch the values continue to fall.

• 1:28:40Speaker 05

  Not the case, it seems.

• 1:28:41Doug DeMuro?

Apparently not. Maybe not. Maybe one car is not an outlier, but, or is not a market. But I do watch other Ferraris in the world. Including the scoot and I Sean's finally gave it to him.

• 1:28:54Speaker 04

  I know you did.

• 1:28:55Doug DeMuro?

Including the scoot and I I watched these values and I'm like, wow. You see that MC 12 sold for $10 million?

• 1:29:02Speaker 05

Yep. I maybe we just missed it altogether.

• 1:29:06Doug DeMuro?

The Ferrari, I mean, obviously an MC 12 and an F 12 isn't, but like there seems to be a renewed interest in cars as an investment class, as a as a blue chip collectible.

• 1:29:17Speaker 04

Every hyper super car is seems like it's really hot right now, especially not newest. A generation old one of a still a little bit more analog than it is now.

• 1:29:25Speaker 05

And which like like most car enthusiasts admittedly, I do start to kind of roll my eyes and be like, God, everything's just getting so expensive. And like, I feel priced out of many cars I hoped to own one day. Challenger Dolly is my favorite example. I really wanted to own one of those days. And now at, you know, 700,000, 800,000 dollars, that's not realistically not going to happen.

• 1:29:45Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 1:29:45Speaker 05

Or even if I wouldn't spend that kind of money on that experience. Get Sean's froth and have most of the same experience.

• 1:29:52Doug DeMuro?

  And a Countach.

• 1:29:52Speaker 05

  Or a Countach, yeah.

• 1:29:54Speaker 04

And a Countach, that's true. Can we talk about the 430 scoot? Can we pull it up? Because it's still going to be live when this podcast.

• 1:29:59Doug DeMuro?

430 scoot. We got a 430 scoot up right now. Very interested in this.

• 1:30:03Speaker 05

  Sean vehicles.

• 1:30:04Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:30:07Doug DeMuro?

  He's a 430 man.

• 1:30:08Speaker 04

It's going to just have the SC.

• 1:30:10Speaker 05

He's driving a 430 Spider, man. What are we doing?

• 1:30:13Doug DeMuro?

  Sean's got a 430 Spider.

• 1:30:14Speaker 04

  Is that a BMW?

• 1:30:15Doug DeMuro?

It's just got an acre of burl walnut in the dash. It's slightly different.

• 1:30:19Speaker 05

Yeah, it doesn't have sticky plastics. It's got all the wood.

• 1:30:22Doug DeMuro?

You know, the SC 430 and the F 430 have the same size backseat.

• 1:30:26Speaker 05

  That's.

• 1:30:26Doug DeMuro?

Pull up, pull up an SC 430. You you will never see a smaller, pull up that car.

• 1:30:32Speaker 05

  It is tiny.

• 1:30:33Doug DeMuro?

Look at this. This is what the seats folded forward.

• 1:30:37Speaker 05

  Give me a break.

• 1:30:38Doug DeMuro?

  Keep going. Look at that.

• 1:30:39Speaker 04

That does, you're right. That does seem special. You're the size of an ant.

• 1:30:42Speaker 05

  That is a cavern.

• 1:30:43Doug DeMuro?

I could not get my children back there and my children are as small as possible for front facing. Literally impossible car to drive.

• 1:30:49Speaker 05

Right. Even if you want to, but you don't. Yeah.

• 1:30:52Doug DeMuro?

Look at all that wood. Sean is experiencing this right now as we speak.

• 1:30:55Speaker 05

You remember driving those like the steering ways? Like it was just like.

• 1:30:59Speaker 04

  Like steering to peanut butter.

• 1:31:00Doug DeMuro?

Radically over, yeah. And the car is so puffy and cloud like and there's so much wood. Go to the interior. The amount of this light wood, it's just an unbelievable.

• 1:31:09Speaker 04

  It looks nice.

• 1:31:10Doug DeMuro?

I think it looks perfect for the clientele. And never forget, as much as the tuner kids, the Ryan Lopez's over here are like, oh, the SC 300 with the 2JZ. The SC 430s are worth more. Boom.

• 1:31:22Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:31:22Speaker 05

  V8, baby.

• 1:31:23Doug DeMuro?

Anywho, the 430 skewed is expensive.

• 1:31:28Speaker 04

Very. But what's gonna be interesting is we don't know how expensive because there has not been a public regular result.

• 1:31:33Doug DeMuro?

There hasn't been a public result in almost a year.

• 1:31:35Speaker 04

And bidding right now, two weeks ago, is about where the last public result was.

• 1:31:39Doug DeMuro?

  That's right. That's right.

• 1:31:40Speaker 05

That toes you, it's on its way.

• 1:31:42Doug DeMuro?

Well, we'll see. I don't know. I'm very curious myself. I drove this car. It was an unbelievable experience. This car is absolutely incredible to drive. It is incredible to use. It is so much more aggressive than a regular F430.

• 1:31:54Doug DeMuro?

Steering precision, exhaust note, speed. It is so immediate, so raw, in a way that honestly, I think none of the other sporty mid-engine cars are. Not the CS, not the Speciale, none of them. This is the most mechanical and the most raw of all of those cars. And we'll see where it ends up.

• 1:32:12Speaker 05

I felt the Strali is still pretty raw.

• 1:32:15Doug DeMuro?

  The CS?

• 1:32:15Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:32:16Doug DeMuro?

  I'm not a CS guy.

• 1:32:17Speaker 05

I know you hate that car.

• 1:32:18Doug DeMuro?

I don't hate it. I just think it's crazy what people spend. This car is better than the CS in literally every single way.

• 1:32:24Speaker 05

But they produce more, much more.

• 1:32:26Doug DeMuro?

Not even that many, 1700 of these versus 1288 CS. CS isn't even that much rarer. It's just a frog, you know what I'm saying?

• 1:32:32Speaker 05

  I like the frog.

• 1:32:33Doug DeMuro?

  This car is cool.

• 1:32:34Speaker 05

It is cool. I am glad, I've been telling people for years about them. I also told people for years to buy 458 Speciale coupes because I knew that they were gonna go up in value and I was right there too. But I think that it is just like, I'm so curious to see where it ends up. Yeah.

• 1:32:49Doug DeMuro?

All the, all the good Ferraris are definitely not quite as low as they once were.

• 1:32:55Speaker 05

Well, even the, again, even my beloved F355, this Spider, 25,000 miles on a 143.5.

• 1:33:01Doug DeMuro?

It makes, because there was a time when we were kids where like a ratty 308, 348, 325, they were all pretty much available for. Thirty to sixty grand, like ratty ones.

• 1:33:11Speaker 05

  Yep.

• 1:33:12Doug DeMuro?

  Even kind of average ones.

• 1:33:13Speaker 05

Yeah, it's three rate GTSI, it's the two valves, it proves still about that, yeah.

• 1:33:17Doug DeMuro?

But like, it does make me want, I always thought that that would just happen to the other Ferraris, especially the three sixty, four thirties. But what has happened instead is there seems to be this tide that has risen, that has, that has literally lifted all of the Ferraris. As the really crazy ones have gone up, so too have all the other ones. And it's like, maybe the days of a ratty sixty K Ferrari is just never gonna happen again.

• 1:33:34Speaker 05

I had, so I have been thinking about this a lot since January, when all those cars sold to Bachman Collection. Because, you know, the big Ferraris, the supercars all went up in price, and then people bought the limited edition V12s. Those went up, people are buying the stripped out, you know, limited edition ish V8s. So what's next? It's like, I think, I mean, yes, all that has arisen, I think the manual ones will catch fire yet again.

• 1:33:55Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I mean, I think that what's next is anything next that's rare, the factory manuals, the...

• 1:34:01Speaker 05

But then after that, you end up with the normal production stuff. And then, yes, that could go through, I just, I wonder, do you think that people are, I'm not just saying this one because I have one live right now. But do you think that people are gonna start to look at the lightweight Lamborghinis or like different brands?

• 1:34:13Doug DeMuro?

You know what? I, my garage is full of cars that don't say Ferrari on them. And I don't, I don't, I've never, I've not bought my cars to invest, I'm cool with it. But I have watched in a little bit of annoyance as the Ferrari brand name continues to be the defining characteristic of what seems to attract buyers to a lot of these cars. Where Lamborghini, the Countach is cooler than any Ferrari that has ever been made, except maybe the F40.

• 1:34:39Speaker 05

  The F50?

• 1:34:41Doug DeMuro?

  Cooler?

• 1:34:43Speaker 05

  I don't know.

• 1:34:44Doug DeMuro?

But regardless, like, the Countach is incredibly cool.

• 1:34:47Speaker 05

I'll tell you about, in pop culture, maybe.

• 1:34:48Doug DeMuro?

If, if the Countach was a Ferrari, it'd be a ten million dollar car. It's a Lambo, it's five homie. And I think that that is just sort of a reality that is the truth, and it is, I wished it would change. And the Porsches have changed a little bit, but the Ferraris just seem to be the thing that commands the money. And I will also say one other thing, as Ferrari becomes a brand that makes more and more and more and more cars. Regular production 599 is a rare car. Regular production 550 with three thousand units, three thousand units is an afternoon of pure song ways.

• 1:35:20Speaker 05

  Rare than a 300SO.

• 1:35:21Doug DeMuro?

Rare than a 300SO. But like, you, you know what I mean?

• 1:35:24Speaker 05

Yeah, I, I do know what you mean.

• 1:35:27Doug DeMuro?

Like a regular production modern Ferrari is a rare car by standards of today's Ferrari. And so there hasn't really been a market equivalent of this to see how these cars are going to fare in the used market. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, all those cars are really expensive. Just like back in the day, a 250PF was a normal car. That was a regular production Ferrari. And now it's an expensive, or at some point, it was an expensive car.

• 1:35:49Speaker 05

It's still modern, by Ferrari standards.

• 1:35:51Doug DeMuro?

  You get my point.

• 1:35:52Speaker 05

  I get, I do.

• 1:35:53Doug DeMuro?

I think the regular production cars of our youth will become incredibly valuable as Ferrari becomes more commercialized, higher production, more sanitized, electric vehicles designed by the Apple guy. Like, a 599 suddenly becomes a pretty attractive proposition if you want to get into the old stuff.

• 1:36:09Speaker 05

I have to have a Viper Max, but do you think I should just get a Ferrari after that?

• 1:36:11Doug DeMuro?

  Get a Ferrari, get a 599, dude.

• 1:36:13Speaker 05

  I do want a 599.

• 1:36:14Doug DeMuro?

Get a tip 599 and spend a lot of money every time it breaks.

• 1:36:17Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:36:18Speaker 05

You can't see, you can't look at those cars.

• 1:36:19Speaker 04

I do wonder about Lambos, like, they are super dajire.

• 1:36:22Speaker 05

That's the one that in my mind stands.

• 1:36:24Speaker 04

I think it has to, at least.

• 1:36:25Doug DeMuro?

  I don't, I completely disagree.

• 1:36:27Speaker 04

I'm not saying it shouldn't fly through the moon, but.

• 1:36:29Doug DeMuro?

I think that, I've, I've been sitting here waiting for Lambos to pop for so long and they never have. A Murra at 3 million is like the all-time ceiling for any Lamborghini ever. And that's only 3 million and it's the father of the supercar. Like, it was the first supercar ever. It was Gandini's first real design. It was the first mid-engine production su- and it's like, and the Countach invented the wedge shape, the first car with scissor doors. And both of those cars languish at Murras at 2 million, Countach is at 600 and they're viable there all day long.

• 1:37:00Speaker 05

That's true, but the appreciation on the Countach, because Ferrari bought his the same time you bought your Ford GT.

• 1:37:05Doug DeMuro?

  Still, it's, it's a 600 car, whereas a, a, you know, an Enzo is a 10 million car. Enzos were 600 in 03.

• 1:37:13Speaker 05

Well, for, yeah, for an afternoon, they were 1.2 immediately.

• 1:37:17Doug DeMuro?

All right, I want to move on to the questions. The questions, of course, are sponsored by, uh...

• 1:37:22Speaker 04

  Can I suggest a sponsor?

• 1:37:23Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:23Speaker 04

  Carsandbeds.com.

• 1:37:24Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, yeah, Cars and Biz.

• 1:37:25Speaker 04

  That one.

• 1:37:26Speaker 05

  There's an app.

• 1:37:27Doug DeMuro?

  Cars and Biz.

• 1:37:28Speaker 05

  Is there one coming?

• 1:37:29Speaker 04

  There's also an Android app.

• 1:37:30Speaker 05

  There is an Android app.

• 1:37:31Speaker 04

  Right now.

• 1:37:32Doug DeMuro?

Woo! Folks, we're doing an Android app.

• 1:37:34Speaker 05

  That's amazing.

• 1:37:35Doug DeMuro?

We're doing an Android app. Take that, bring the trailer. Do they have an Android app? Oh, they already have one, forget it. Cut that.

• 1:37:43Doug DeMuro?

All right, I want to move on to questions and we got a lot of questions because this was supposed to be a more questiony pod, but you know what? We ended up talking about other stuff.

• 1:37:51Speaker 04

  Talked so long.

• 1:37:51Doug DeMuro?

I still have great questions. First question from Daki P. Ken, you gotta answer for it. What happened to your hair on the podcast two weeks ago?

• 1:37:59Speaker 05

I try, I have a lot of hair. I have, my hair is very thick and it grows very fast and I wanted to try something different and so I did. And I got a lot of attention, way more than I was expecting it to. It's just hair for god's sake.

• 1:38:10Doug DeMuro?

Just hair. I walked in that day and I said, Ken.

• 1:38:12Speaker 05

  Well, nobody tries anything different.

• 1:38:13Doug DeMuro?

I took one look at him and I said, Ken, you can't have your hair.

• 1:38:17Speaker 05

Which again, getting, getting style criticism from a man so stylish is truly crushing.

• 1:38:21Doug DeMuro?

I don't care. It wasn't about me. I just knew the comments would be endless. And literally every comment, people couldn't even get into Filippo's brilliant takes because they were so consumed by the hair.

• 1:38:34Speaker 05

  Well, they're welcome.

• 1:38:34Doug DeMuro?

In a way, in a way, it was actually a good thing.

• 1:38:36Speaker 05

It was a good thing. You're welcome for all the comments and the extra engagement on that one, Sean.

• 1:38:41Doug DeMuro?

Next question, this is a real question and I think a good one and I want you both to atone.

• 1:38:46Speaker 05

  Want to be clear.

• 1:38:47Doug DeMuro?

Look me in the face when I ask you this question.

• 1:38:48Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 1:38:49Doug DeMuro?

From Siberian Motorwagen. I've been making this point in our group for the last week or so in our group chat and I've been very, very vocal about it and now someone happens to ask the same question. How come the only non-German cars in your friend group are a Ford sports car and a Toyota truck?

• 1:39:04Speaker 05

  Hey now.

• 1:39:05Doug DeMuro?

What happened to the other cars? Is, why is Kenan, now is Kenan looking for the most American car there in, but Filippo's got this Mercedes. You know what?

• 1:39:14Speaker 04

  I have a 1973 Ford truck.

• 1:39:15Doug DeMuro?

You know what's funny about this Ford truck? Every time I'm at his house, the tires on this truck are 25 years old. And every time I'm at his house, every time I'm at his house, I'm like, Filippo, you gotta get these tires changed. He goes, it's not my truck. It's my wife's truck. It's not my truck. It's not my, I'm not doing, I'm not letting her decide on the tires. And now Filippo gets called out for having only German cars. He goes, I got a truck. I got a truck.

• 1:39:37Speaker 04

Fair point. Hard to argue that one.

• 1:39:40Speaker 05

  This is impossible to argue.

• 1:39:41Doug DeMuro?

I am the only person, this, let me tell you the answer to this question. Because only I have a full appreciation of the automobile. Only, exactly. And what do I got? I got a Toyota, I got another non-European car.

• 1:39:55Speaker 05

You know what I gotta say?

• 1:39:56Doug DeMuro?

  I got the Ford GT.

• 1:39:58Speaker 05

I was gonna say, if we were in your financial position, we'd do different, but to be honest with you, that's European.

• 1:40:02Doug DeMuro?

You buy one European cars, because you guys, this is the difference.

• 1:40:05Speaker 04

The car I've owned the longest is an American car. I don't own anymore, and I haven't in years, but it's a car I've owned the longest.

• 1:40:10Doug DeMuro?

You guys have these narrow worldviews. He's got a GTI, an E station wagon, a 911, three Germans.

• 1:40:16Speaker 04

  Great car.

• 1:40:17Doug DeMuro?

You have German everywhere. SL65 German, M5 German, you have that Ferrari European. I, the rest of the world is out there.

• 1:40:26Speaker 05

But I will, my appreciation has expanded tremendously. I've done two films, both on American cars recently. Well, a third was the Lamborghini, but ignore that European car. But I did the Ford Daytona Coupe, which we sold, and absolutely loved that car. Absolutely adored it. And then I did the Ford Mustang Mach 1, thought that car was cool as hell.

• 1:40:44Speaker 04

  Video's up now.

• 1:40:45Speaker 05

I have appreciation for American cars, and so I really want to own, and I will own one.

• 1:40:47Doug DeMuro?

A lot of people out here saying, first off, have some respect for your own country.

• 1:40:54Speaker 04

  Italy?

• 1:40:54Doug DeMuro?

You, it can be Italy. You don't have an Italian car either. I'll let you out of Italy.

• 1:40:58Speaker 05

He did have that 500A bar.

• 1:41:00Doug DeMuro?

I did, yeah. So, three months ago.

• 1:41:01Speaker 04

  You know what upsets me?

• 1:41:02Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, wait, what is it? I guess it's still European, but still.

• 1:41:04Speaker 04

You know what upsets me about you specifically? So, like.

• 1:41:07Doug DeMuro?

What upsets me about you specifically, America took you in.

• 1:41:10Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:41:11Doug DeMuro?

When you were at your lowest.

• 1:41:12Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:41:13Doug DeMuro?

You were a poor child washed up on the shore, on a beach in North Carolina. We don't often tell this story, but I'm gonna tell it today. He washed up on the beach, he was only, he was in a sack. He was in a grocery bag.

• 1:41:27Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:41:27Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, from, uh, uh...

• 1:41:30Speaker 04

Yeah, you'll get there. You'll find an Italian grocery chain sooner or later. I want to see which one comes up first.

• 1:41:37Doug DeMuro?

He was in a grocery bag from, uh, from Eurospend.

• 1:41:43Speaker 04

Oh, wow. Okay. A discount grocer. Nice.

• 1:41:47Doug DeMuro?

And he washed up going, mama. And you know who his mama was? America.

• 1:41:55Speaker 04

  That's true.

• 1:41:55Doug DeMuro?

And what, and you, what do you pay us? What do you do?

• 1:41:59Speaker 04

I owned a Ford Focus built in America for years. Six years.

• 1:42:02Doug DeMuro?

I think that this is a legitimate question. And beyond, by the way, the, this group. Nick has only a Mercedes station wagon, a Mercedes SLR. His wife has a Cayenne, that's three Germans. Plus he has his Land Rover, which is British, European.

• 1:42:15Speaker 05

Nick has always been, I mean, well, yeah, but his first car was a Ford.

• 1:42:19Doug DeMuro?

He's Euro, Euro, Euro. Our buddy Sam is a boxer of some variety.

• 1:42:23Speaker 04

  And?

• 1:42:24Doug DeMuro?

  He's Euro as hell.

• 1:42:24Speaker 04

  He's a Rivian.

• 1:42:25Doug DeMuro?

Built in America, Normal, Illinois. Yeah, but the point is, we all had things. Okay? And then when we got some money and we got some taste, we all bought European.

• 1:42:34Speaker 04

Sam actively has an American car.

• 1:42:36Doug DeMuro?

  You don't have.

• 1:42:37Speaker 04

  It's true.

• 1:42:38Doug DeMuro?

And his wife has a German car. There's Germans everywhere. You guys are Euro trash. You don't have a little bit of desire to say, hey to America.

• 1:42:46Speaker 05

I do, I'm going to own the most bare-chested American car there is.

• 1:42:50Doug DeMuro?

The difference between going to own and will own is the difference between I'm keeping my GTI and I'm going to sell my GTI.

• 1:42:57Speaker 05

I set a course and I stick to it. I make things happen.

• 1:43:00Doug DeMuro?

We're all sitting here. Siberian motor wagon is sitting here waiting for you to fly a flag.

• 1:43:04Speaker 05

Well, I will. And when it happens, I, I will wear an American flag when I have my Viper. And you'll see.

• 1:43:10Speaker 04

Interesting. There are a lot of cars in this office. A lot of cars in this office. There are two American cars in this office.

• 1:43:17Speaker 05

Actually, from my standpoint, I can't see a single American car.

• 1:43:20Speaker 04

And two is really kind of stretching.

• 1:43:21Speaker 05

  Italian, Italian, Japanese, Japanese, Italian.

• 1:43:24Speaker 04

And there's a Chevy Sprint Turbo around the corner.

• 1:43:26Doug DeMuro?

I, in all honesty, I, I am, in all honesty.

• 1:43:31Speaker 04

  Oh, there's a Corvette.

• 1:43:32Doug DeMuro?

Generally speaking, the only member of our group who's really interested in all of the countries in the car.

• 1:43:37Speaker 04

I don't think that's true. At this moment, I happen to own three German cars. I don't understand how that's happened. I need to correct that.

• 1:43:43Doug DeMuro?

My car list is, my car list is, is pretty comprehensive. I've owned every country. Volvo Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, BMW, Lotus, Cadillac. You ever have a Cadillac? I had two.

• 1:43:54Speaker 04

AM General. Thank you very much. I've done fewer cars, but I think you will agree that I.

• 1:43:59Speaker 05

We didn't have that little tax incentive from Georgia, state of Georgia that you did, where you could just cycle cars.

• 1:44:03Speaker 04

You could lie on the forums like everybody else.

• 1:44:05Speaker 05

  You're advising that people.

• 1:44:07Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, we can't lie.

• 1:44:07Speaker 04

  We don't do that.

• 1:44:08Doug DeMuro?

We can't lie on the forums.

• 1:44:09Speaker 04

I don't do that, to be clear. I, I, I think that you will, you should accept that I also have an equal love of all kinds of cars, even if I don't own them.

• 1:44:17Doug DeMuro?

No, I think once you got a little money, started buying cool cars, they were all Europe. All your cars before were BS cars that you didn't care about.

• 1:44:25Speaker 04

  You know what?

• 1:44:25Doug DeMuro?

Suddenly it start, you start to be able to...

• 1:44:27Speaker 04

  SC Sport?

• 1:44:28Doug DeMuro?

  That car's long gone.

• 1:44:30Speaker 04

  Four years.

• 1:44:31Speaker 05

I will, if you look at the list of cars, I have a list on my phone of every car I've ever driven my entire life. I will drive anything.

• 1:44:37Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:37Speaker 05

But when it comes to committing to own, it's like there are tastes that I like.

• 1:44:40Speaker 04

No, no, I just, it was by habit. There were no wagons that were...

• 1:44:43Doug DeMuro?

No, I just happened to fall into three Euro cars.

• 1:44:45Speaker 05

I like what I like. What's wrong with that?

• 1:44:47Doug DeMuro?

I am the only person who has a whole love of cars.

• 1:44:50Speaker 04

If I buy a SC7 Corvette, will you stop on this trend?

• 1:44:52Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:44:53Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 1:44:53Doug DeMuro?

  Um, I will say...

• 1:44:54Speaker 05

Bow down to you. I don't know what, like, what...

• 1:44:56Doug DeMuro?

Dead serious, I am proud to drive the Ford GT every time I drive it, in part because it's American. That car is designed in America, by an American, built in America, and that is important.

• 1:45:04Speaker 04

Hey, so is your Carrera GT, sort of.

• 1:45:05Doug DeMuro?

Hell, yeah. We get, we're gonna have Jason Hill, the designer of the Carrera GT, on this podcast. He doesn't know it yet. I haven't told him. But I'm now connected to him on Instagram.

• 1:45:13Speaker 04

  Wow.

• 1:45:14Speaker 05

Oh, I would like to own more sports cars, and I'm taking that advice. That's why I'm not buying a Macan. I will own more.

• 1:45:18Doug DeMuro?

I'm sorry, were you speaking German or just, or just, or just speaking? I couldn't hear you.

• 1:45:23Speaker 05

You know, very funny, a very funny man, making fun of Germany. Can't believe it.

• 1:45:28Doug DeMuro?

Um, okay, next question. Uh, next question, next question, next question. This is a good question. From plausibly, um, hey fellows, what podcasts are you listening to? Filippo, tell us about your listening experience.

• 1:45:42Speaker 04

Yeah, I don't listen to that many podcasts, but I listen to some like news-related podcasts and tech-related podcasts.

• 1:45:48Doug DeMuro?

  Okay, like what?

• 1:45:49Speaker 04

I'd rather not get into it.

• 1:45:50Doug DeMuro?

  Filippo, tell us!

• 1:45:51Speaker 04

I, I will say, I do love, uh, Anchorage's Waveform Podcast as one of my tech ones. Shout out to, to Marquez Brownlee.

• 1:45:57Doug DeMuro?

  Filippo, tell us...

• 1:45:59Speaker 04

Trying to like solicit some favors here from...

• 1:46:01Doug DeMuro?

Tell us about the podcasts that you listen to.

• 1:46:04Speaker 04

  Hmm, I don't know.

• 1:46:05Speaker 05

  How much NPR does he...

• 1:46:06Speaker 04

There's a fair amount of NPR, yeah. They, they, they have some good podcasts.

• 1:46:09Doug DeMuro?

  Filippo, I want...

• 1:46:10Speaker 04

  But it's not exclusively NPR.

• 1:46:11Speaker 05

When do you listen to it? I curious.

• 1:46:13Speaker 04

Uh, when I walk the dog or when I'm on a really...

• 1:46:15Speaker 05

I always wondered what you're listening to when you walk.

• 1:46:16Speaker 04

I don't wa, I don't listen to music that often. Dog is in the top 1% of Spotify listeners worldwide. I'm not.

• 1:46:23Doug DeMuro?

You're not, you're not gonna admit here to listening to hardcore left-wing podcasts? You're not gonna admit that?

• 1:46:27Speaker 04

That's not how I would describe them.

• 1:46:50Speaker 01

But now, 7-Up is fighting back with their new Lime Lemon Soda. Now lime comes first. 7-Up, flip the sip.

• 1:47:02Speaker 04

I listen to more podcasts and more genres than anybody else.

• 1:47:05Speaker 05

  That's good.

• 1:47:06Doug DeMuro?

Oh my god. Alright, let's do three more questions, three more questions. From JM Etheridge. By the way, I don't listen to any podcasts. Ken, do you?

• 1:47:14Speaker 05

  Yeah, I do.

• 1:47:15Doug DeMuro?

  What do you listen to?

• 1:47:16Speaker 05

MSSP, Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast. Shout out to the dogs.

• 1:47:21Speaker 05

Everybody who listens to that, everybody knows. I love Matt and Shane. I think I love Matt and Shane.

• 1:47:26Doug DeMuro?

What do you think this is? Filippo, what do you think this is?

• 1:47:29Speaker 04

  Shane Gillis.

• 1:47:29Speaker 05

Shane Gillis, the comedian. And Matt, they both did great podcasts. I listen to that all the time. I also listen to Smoking Tire. Love Matt. Fair. Always have listened to Smoking Tire. Still my favorite podcast. No offense, no offense to you two.

• 1:47:42Speaker 04

  I'm a little offended.

• 1:47:45Speaker 05

And I also listen to, I listen to a lot of stuff. Houdinkie Radio, listen to them of course for Watch Stuff and a bunch of others too.

• 1:47:51Doug DeMuro?

I listen to none. I listen to music.

• 1:47:54Speaker 05

  Yeah, I do know that.

• 1:47:55Doug DeMuro?

Speaking of, there's a question here. What is the best song to listen to while driving during the day? What is the best song to listen to while driving at night? I'm gonna tell you the only song I listen to. It's called "Standing Still" by a band called Buddha Head. It's the only, I listen to it on repeat.

• 1:48:10Speaker 04

I haven't heard that one from you.

• 1:48:11Doug DeMuro?

Over and over and over again. That's the only song I listen to. Night and day.

• 1:48:17Speaker 04

Is that a just summer song?

• 1:48:18Doug DeMuro?

No, it's from like 20 years ago. You can have it if you want.

• 1:48:21Speaker 04

But like, what is gonna be the song of the summer?

• 1:48:24Doug DeMuro?

You gotta, "Call Me Maybe, Maybe." We need a "Call Me Maybe."

• 1:48:27Speaker 04

No, no, but you always have a song of the summer that you play.

• 1:48:30Doug DeMuro?

I know, we need a "Call Me," it needs to be poppy and fun.

• 1:48:32Speaker 05

Virginia don't sound like she used to.

• 1:48:34Speaker 04

Don't sound like she used to.

• 1:48:35Doug DeMuro?

"Standing Still" by Buddha Head. You go listen to it, you get, Filippo, you go listen to it. Instead of listening for once, instead of listening to Rachel Maddow.

• 1:48:45Doug DeMuro?

It's right there on Spotify. That's this song. Okay.

• 1:48:49Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:48:50Doug DeMuro?

Uh, two more questions, two more actual questions.

• 1:48:55Doug DeMuro?

Kyle KP, are there any car manufacturers that you think will follow in the footsteps of Spirit Airlines within the next five years or less?

• 1:49:02Speaker 04

And that they will go bankrupt?

• 1:49:04Doug DeMuro?

Or just disappear and people have to fly around repossessing.

• 1:49:07Speaker 04

  Yeah, probably.

• 1:49:08Speaker 05

  Somehow Infinity.

• 1:49:09Doug DeMuro?

  I gotta assume.

• 1:49:11Speaker 04

Infinity just rolled out the QX65.

• 1:49:13Speaker 05

  I know.

• 1:49:15Speaker 04

There's a bunch of automakers that are constantly in trouble. Aston Martin, Lotus, McLaren.

• 1:49:22Doug DeMuro?

  The thing is, an automaker.

• 1:49:23Speaker 04

  Jag may disappear.

• 1:49:24Doug DeMuro?

An automaker with a really strong brand name is never going to go away. So Saab went away because it didn't have a brand. Aston Martin is always, there's always gonna be someone.

• 1:49:34Speaker 04

There's always some value in it. I also, the real answer is that there's gonna be a lot of, by the way, there are a lot that have been smaller scale. Lordstown Motors was around for a brief moment. There's other ones like that.

• 1:49:44Doug DeMuro?

Tell me about a real, if you were to place your bets on a real automaker.

• 1:49:51Speaker 04

That I think the next few years will truly go to business.

• 1:49:54Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:49:56Speaker 04

And fully collapse. A lot will form.

• 1:49:58Doug DeMuro?

I don't know about collapse, but just like the brand is gone. What do you got? Ken, think on it too?

• 1:50:04Doug DeMuro?

  In the US market.

• 1:50:05Speaker 04

And the US markets are, I think probably half of the manufacturers in China will go bankrupt.

• 1:50:09Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, for sure. The US market. Hit me in the US. Who's leaving? Who's leaving? Why can't you immediately answer? I got two right off the bat.

• 1:50:18Speaker 05

Well, if Lotus actually does the thing they say they're gonna do, like they get rid of the V6 and like that's not around anymore, that seems pretty likely.

• 1:50:25Speaker 04

I think either Alpha or Maserati.

• 1:50:27Speaker 05

Alpha, definitely. Maserati was the other one.

• 1:50:28Speaker 04

They have strong brand names, but I don't think.

• 1:50:30Doug DeMuro?

  No way, Maserati.

• 1:50:30Speaker 04

  I don't think that that's the land.

• 1:50:32Doug DeMuro?

The answer is Mitsubishi and Infinity are both going away. They are both going away.

• 1:50:38Speaker 04

  Yeah, Mitsubishi is probably right.

• 1:50:38Doug DeMuro?

I'm breaking the news right here. Mitsubishi Motors is done in the US. Boy, when you go on Mitsubishi.Cars.com, the only car they're offering is the Outlander.

• 1:50:49Speaker 04

  That's it.

• 1:50:50Doug DeMuro?

  Or the Eclipse Cross.

• 1:50:51Speaker 04

Eclipse Cross, but that's been true for a while and at least there is a new Outlander. And a refresh one coming, if memory serves.

• 1:50:56Doug DeMuro?

Uh, based on the Rogue, right?

• 1:50:58Speaker 04

  Correct.

• 1:50:58Doug DeMuro?

Well, this is all gonna go.

• 1:50:59Speaker 04

But then you remember, of course, that the Rogue hybrid is based on the Outlander.

• 1:51:02Doug DeMuro?

The Outlander, yeah. Uh, no, I think that.

• 1:51:04Speaker 04

  Mitsubishi is a good guess.

• 1:51:05Doug DeMuro?

Mitsubishi and Infinity, they're circling the drain.

• 1:51:08Speaker 04

It depends on how Nissan plans to do it. I think they will want a luxury brand and so they may keep it alive even though they should.

• 1:51:15Doug DeMuro?

I just don't know. You know, it's interesting. When all the Japanese brands launched luxury brands in the late 80s and early 90s, they did it because they saw the enormous amount of money that the Germans were making. And it hasn't gone well for any of them. Lexus has been great. Infiniti has been a pretty much a disaster after year three. Acura never really took off like I think they were hoping it would. It always sort of lived in this budget space, which was never going to be as profitable. And, you know, Mazda tried to do it too. They had this brand they were going to launch called Amati. That was the 929 was going to be that. And they never even got it off the ground.

• 1:51:48Speaker 04

I'm going to add one to that. Not to the list of luxury makers, but that might truly be gone in five years. Lucid. Lucid has taken back all the predictions on production this year. They've like fully removed their guidance and said, we don't know how many cars we're going to make.

• 1:52:03Doug DeMuro?

Have you watched what happened with Liv Golf?

• 1:52:06Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:52:06Doug DeMuro?

  Do you know about this?

• 1:52:08Speaker 04

  Uh, yes.

• 1:52:08Doug DeMuro?

The Saudis came in and tried to bribe. Is that a term we can use?

• 1:52:13Speaker 04

Yeah, I think it's the most correct one.

• 1:52:14Doug DeMuro?

I can't go to Jedi anymore, but they tried to bribe all the

• 1:52:18Speaker 04

  Shame.

• 1:52:19Doug DeMuro?

All the golfers from the PGA Tour to come over to their new golf.

• 1:52:22Speaker 04

  Pretty successfully, actually.

• 1:52:23Doug DeMuro?

And it worked because they had zillions of dollars. They were going to start their own golf tour. And, but you saw what happened recently.

• 1:52:30Speaker 04

  They have shut down abruptly.

• 1:52:31Doug DeMuro?

They're shutting down. They stopped paying the golfers. It's all over. And so you sit here thinking, oh, the Middle Easterners have all this money. They can bankroll stuff forever. Well, we'll see how long forever lasts. And Lucid may indeed find out.

• 1:52:42Speaker 04

Especially because fundamentally, the Saudi government is having some money troubles by not being able to export their oil currently. It may have an impact on where they decide to place bets. And I could imagine Lucid losing, like running out of money.

• 1:52:54Doug DeMuro?

  They got oil problems.

• 1:52:55Speaker 04

Oh, by the way, Vinfast is still around.

• 1:52:58Doug DeMuro?

I did. Yeah, what's Vinfast? They were on this huge kick. They were trying to get me every Vinfast ever made. They sent me a blanket one year, which I still use. And, and by the way, as a result, I am a shill for their company. They make the best cars in the world.

• 1:53:10Speaker 04

Make pretty decent blankets. There's a Vinfast store at the mall here in San Diego.

• 1:53:16Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:53:16Speaker 04

I don't know if you're familiar with this. They have had a VF9 in the showroom for the last two years. Not for sale.

• 1:53:22Doug DeMuro?

Not for sale. Well, they got selling other ones. But so what's the deal with that? Are they still doing it?

• 1:53:27Speaker 04

Apparently the VF7 is coming soon.

• 1:53:29Doug DeMuro?

Uh, okay. Last question. Last question.

• 1:53:32Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 1:53:33Doug DeMuro?

  From Crossy with a K.

• 1:53:35Speaker 04

  Ooh.

• 1:53:35Doug DeMuro?

Hey Doug, the podcast will ruin the best parts of my Fridays. How lovely. Sean, you hear that?

• 1:53:39Speaker 05

  It's very kind.

• 1:53:40Doug DeMuro?

But I think it would be even better with more regular outside guests included.

• 1:53:45Speaker 04

  Good news last week.

• 1:53:46Doug DeMuro?

These people don't like, Sean, you hear that? They don't like Cannon and Filippo.

• 1:53:49Speaker 04

  I can't blame them.

• 1:53:50Doug DeMuro?

Uh, what are some of, or maybe me.

• 1:53:53Speaker 04

  Right.

• 1:53:53Doug DeMuro?

That's fine too. Um, what are some of your most desired guests to have on the pod?

• 1:53:58Speaker 04

  Well, Tyler Hoover, obviously.

• 1:53:59Doug DeMuro?

I, here's the problem with guests, two things. Number one, Farah has guests on his pod and he tells us the pods with guests always do worse than the pods with the crew.

• 1:54:06Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:54:07Doug DeMuro?

Because people don't, they, they see the guest name and they don't want to hear from that guest, so they just don't watch that pod. Whereas if it's just the guys, they'll tune in. Number two, in order to have the sort of jovial, enjoyable experience that we all have, it has to be someone that we are comfortable with.

• 1:54:23Speaker 05

Right. Or in, in our case, if Doug wants to tear in and make, tear into us and make fun of us, he wants to be someone he knows, not someone he's not familiar with.

• 1:54:31Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, like Hoovy.

• 1:54:33Speaker 05

  Right.

• 1:54:33Speaker 04

Right, Hoovy, you can, you can ask him.

• 1:54:35Speaker 05

Right, you're gonna ask him some tough questions, I'm sure.

• 1:54:37Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:54:38Speaker 05

He's gonna, we'll see him squirm.

• 1:54:40Doug DeMuro?

Didn't we get into like his, his marital status last time?

• 1:54:42Speaker 05

Yeah, I'm sure the taxes will come up.

• 1:54:44Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, for sure, for sure.

• 1:54:46Speaker 04

At least he filed an extension this year. Smart.

• 1:54:47Doug DeMuro?

So, the answer is, I, like if we had Whistlin on, I feel like I'd be, like Kamisa was here and I, I felt like nervous a little. Like Kamisa's an automotive icon.

• 1:54:57Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:54:58Doug DeMuro?

And I was like, not really sure how to, you know, it's not the same energy.

• 1:55:01Speaker 04

  Right.

• 1:55:02Doug DeMuro?

So who do I want on number one most, most desired guest, Ryan Lopez?

• 1:55:05Speaker 04

  Oh, wow.

• 1:55:07Doug DeMuro?

He could answer for the air conditioning incident, he could answer for the picking the guy up upstairs incident.

• 1:55:11Speaker 04

He's got a lot of other ones in the park.

• 1:55:14Doug DeMuro?

Filippo came in today, he said, Ryan Lopez booked a meeting and he was on an airplane for the meeting.

• 1:55:21Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:55:21Doug DeMuro?

And Ryan said, well, what's the problem? Filippo said, well, you, did you take the meeting? Ryan said, I couldn't take the meeting, I was on an airplane. Filippo said, well, why did you book the meeting?

• 1:55:27Speaker 04

  I was there.

• 1:55:28Doug DeMuro?

It's like Freddie, he and Freddie were probably on the same flight, they just, they wandered under, they got on the flight, boom.

• 1:55:34Speaker 04

I didn't know if it was gonna be on a flight, didn't know if it was gonna land.

• 1:55:36Doug DeMuro?

Didn't have any idea it was gonna be on a plane, who, how do you calculate how long it's gonna take? I don't know.

• 1:55:40Speaker 04

I did say yes to the meeting though.

• 1:55:44Doug DeMuro?

Ryan Lopez is my number one guest that I want on the pod.

• 1:55:47Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:55:48Doug DeMuro?

And I think we're gonna have that.

• 1:55:48Speaker 04

  It is quite doable.

• 1:55:50Doug DeMuro?

It's pretty doable. He's sitting there.

• 1:55:51Speaker 04

He's right there. He's listening to all of this.

• 1:55:55Doug DeMuro?

Bring his chips right into the studio.

• 1:55:57Speaker 04

Yep. And we do a pretty good AC, so he'll be.

• 1:56:00Doug DeMuro?

We got good AC in the office.

• 1:56:02Speaker 04

  He'll sleep well.

• 1:56:02Doug DeMuro?

Sleep. Uh, who else? Who do you want, Kenan?

• 1:56:06Speaker 05

Hmm. Well, I'd love Matt to come on. I'd love Matt Farah.

• 1:56:09Doug DeMuro?

  Farah?

• 1:56:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:56:10Speaker 04

  He's been on.

• 1:56:10Speaker 05

We, uh, the very first live we ever did.

• 1:56:13Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:56:13Speaker 05

Which started this whole thing was with Matt Farah.

• 1:56:15Doug DeMuro?

The problem is, it's hard to also.

• 1:56:16Speaker 05

Actually, you know, Zach Clapman. Zach is so funny. I've loved, both, both of them would be great.

• 1:56:21Doug DeMuro?

Zach Clapman is the funniest guy in the car biz.

• 1:56:22Speaker 05

He, yeah, he, it makes, he's a stand, he does stand up. Like, he's a comedy writer. It makes, he is so funny and I love him, dude.

• 1:56:28Doug DeMuro?

  You want Zach Clapman?

• 1:56:29Speaker 05

I would love to have Zach. Sean, make it happen.

• 1:56:31Doug DeMuro?

I think we could also have a fun experience. It wouldn't, it wouldn't feel like overbearing or like, oh, what do we say to this person? Do we have to ask them if they want coffee? Like, you can just like ha- have him and have him like there that you're, one of your friends.

• 1:56:44Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 1:56:44Speaker 05

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 1:56:45Doug DeMuro?

  What about you?

• 1:56:46Speaker 04

I want Nick Roshan's wife. I need somebody to explain for that.

• 1:56:50Doug DeMuro?

  A, a, a special pod with Nick's wife.

• 1:56:53Speaker 05

That would be, you know what? Actually, Nick and his wife. I actually do second this. I think that would be amazing.

• 1:56:59Doug DeMuro?

That would be amazing. Nick's wife, come on.

• 1:57:01Speaker 04

Play her clips of what Nick has, says that we cut and then have her react.

• 1:57:04Doug DeMuro?

  Answer for this.

• 1:57:06Speaker 05

I, I, yes, so Nick's wife, I'll say her name, Prepare.

• 1:57:10Doug DeMuro?

Don't you think it would be amazing to get some real insider, like?

• 1:57:14Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:57:14Speaker 05

  I would love that.

• 1:57:15Doug DeMuro?

What's the, like, is, you know, is this, is this going on even at home? Do you know about all this stuff?

• 1:57:21Speaker 05

She is the most patient woman on the planet.

• 1:57:24Doug DeMuro?

  Gotta be.

• 1:57:24Speaker 05

Because Nick is so crazy, I can't imagine.

• 1:57:27Doug DeMuro?

  Gotta be.

• 1:57:27Speaker 05

  Gotta be.

• 1:57:28Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, truly insane. That's a great one.

• 1:57:30Speaker 05

That is, I hadn't considered that.

• 1:57:32Speaker 04

  A lot to answer for.

• 1:57:33Doug DeMuro?

We'll, we'll send her, we'll send her a note. Uh, maybe she hates us. Maybe she thinks we're bad at, Nick probably goes home and is like, "Had Filippo make me buy another car!"

• 1:57:42Speaker 05

  Tax it all.

• 1:57:43Doug DeMuro?

  Can't believe it.

• 1:57:44Speaker 05

  I think she watches.

• 1:57:44Doug DeMuro?

  I didn't even want to.

• 1:57:45Speaker 04

  Don't give Nick ideas.

• 1:57:46Speaker 05

I'm fairly confident she watches and/or listens to the pod.

• 1:57:48Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:57:49Doug DeMuro?

Only when Nick's on, she's not gonna hear this. Uh, okay, we're good. That's the end. There's a Pinsgauer on the site. By the time you're watching this, long gone.

• 1:57:56Speaker 04

  Long gone.

• 1:57:56Doug DeMuro?

  Sorry, someone else bought it.

• 1:57:57Speaker 04

But cars, all the Velocity cars, if you go to browse slash Velocity or go to the banner.

• 1:58:02Speaker 05

I'm gonna go to the banner, it's cool as hell.

• 1:58:04Speaker 04

It is very cool. Uh, there's a lot of incredible cars that are gonna be ending tomorrow when you're listening to this.

• 1:58:08Doug DeMuro?

  Tomorrow.

• 1:58:09Speaker 04

  Uh, so make sure you.

• 1:58:10Speaker 05

  So many cars.

• 1:58:11Speaker 04

I'm not sure it comes around to that.

• 1:58:12Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, maybe.

• 1:58:12Speaker 05

  Oh, maybe it does.

• 1:58:13Doug DeMuro?

You might have to go to carsandbids.com again. And by the way, that's a note for you. Go to carsandbids.com.

• 1:58:19Speaker 04

Click on it. But truly, there's some absolutely incredible cars.

• 1:58:22Doug DeMuro?

  If you've ever wanted a Lola T212.

• 1:58:24Speaker 04

  And you have.

• 1:58:25Doug DeMuro?

You've been sitting here waiting. You've been waiting for all these years.

• 1:58:28Speaker 04

By the way, that skyline. Wild. 6,000 miles, midnight purple too.

• 1:58:31Doug DeMuro?

I wanna buy this, and then I looked at the midnight purple.

• 1:58:35Speaker 04

It's gonna go for real money.

• 1:58:35Doug DeMuro?

Um, if you ever wanted a Lola T12, and I wanna buy this, this is your chance. Now Nick's gonna buy it and be like, but Doug said on the pod.

• 1:58:42Speaker 04

Yeah, now you're, this is my chance.

• 1:58:44Doug DeMuro?

Doug said on the pod, this is my chance, this is my, had to buy it. Uh, okay, that's our last thing. Anything else? Any parting thoughts?

• 1:58:51Speaker 04

  Safe travels.

• 1:58:52Speaker 05

Safe travels to you. I'll see you at Velocity.

• 1:58:54Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Our best pod ever. Goodbye, everyone.

• 1:58:57Speaker 05

Bye, my hair's back to normal.
