Coming up on the show, we find out the results of our Chinese food audience poll. Are you sophisticated like me, or savages like Ant?

• 0:07Ant McPartlin?

Just by the urn, savage for me. I like to take course by course. We spill the tea about our experiences with Madonna and Kim Kardashian at the Brits.

• 0:16Declan Donnelly?

She stood there, she's going, jeez, and I'm going, ah! And I was like, ah, come on, get me camera to take. Ant reveals the worst prize we've ever given away on TV.

• 0:25Ant McPartlin?

Oh my god, I'm so sorry, Mike. We tell the story of a badly behaved Hollywood star on Chums. She'd been out in London on a Friday night and turned up, still act like it was a Friday night, on a Saturday morning. And I have an ear infection.

• 0:39Declan Donnelly?

  Hooray!

• 0:40Ant McPartlin?

  Not hooray.

• 0:40Declan Donnelly?

  Enjoy the show.

• 0:47Declan Donnelly?

  Oi, oi! Oi, oi!

• 0:51Declan Donnelly?

Hello, everybody. Good morning, good evening. Welcome to The Hangout.

• 0:54Ant McPartlin?

  Shut that door!

• 0:55Declan Donnelly?

Look at the muck in here. Let me put the light on.

• 0:57Ant McPartlin?

Let me turn my lights on.

• 0:59Declan Donnelly?

And they're on the air. Get your housekeeping done.

• 1:02Ant McPartlin?

  Hi, guys.

• 1:03Declan Donnelly?

  Come on in.

• 1:04Ant McPartlin?

  Welcome to The Hangout.

• 1:06Declan Donnelly?

  Whoa!

• 1:06Ant McPartlin?

Whoa, look at that. They nearly got you in the guts.

• 1:09Declan Donnelly?

For those of you just listening, a paper aeroplane has come at quite a velocity onto the decks, onto the desk.

• 1:16Ant McPartlin?

Onto the decks? Do you talk about yourself in the third person, eh? This paper aeroplane has come to the decks.

• 1:23Declan Donnelly?

Hi, Ant and Deck. I have an idea for another name for The Hangout.

• 1:27Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, good, oh!

• 1:28Declan Donnelly?

This is from Helen. In case I didn't understand The Hangout...

• 1:31Ant McPartlin?

  No, he didn't.

• 1:32Declan Donnelly?

...as we are now old. Speak for yourself, Helen!

• 1:35Ant McPartlin?

  What?

• 1:35Declan Donnelly?

As he readjusts his glasses. We used to hang out, however, these days, they're chill.

• 1:40Ant McPartlin?

Who's they? Are we the they?

• 1:42Declan Donnelly?

No, no, no, they're they. We're the us.

• 1:45Ant McPartlin?

  What?

• 1:45Speaker 02

  Us.

• 1:46Declan Donnelly?

Those kids, like Lola and Fiona. Not so much Jemima, but...

• 1:52Declan Donnelly?

Lol and Fiona, chill. So instead of saying I'm off to hang out with Ant, it's now I'm going to chill with Ant. Lol. Why don't you call it the belter box? Hanging out with Ant and Deck in the belter box. Just a thought from Helen.

• 2:05Ant McPartlin?

I'm going to disregard a lot of what she said because I was confused by it. She said we're old, which is rude.

• 2:10Declan Donnelly?

  No, she said you're old.

• 2:11Ant McPartlin?

  Me?

• 2:12Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 2:12Ant McPartlin?

  Just me? You're, just me?

• 2:14Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah, that's what she said.

• 2:16Ant McPartlin?

Let me read that. Let me read that.

• 2:18Declan Donnelly?

You don't need to read it.

• 2:18Ant McPartlin?

Read that. You're actually older. He's actually two months older than me. So he is older than me.

• 2:24Declan Donnelly?

Always brings that up. Always brings that up.

• 2:25Ant McPartlin?

Helen, how old are you? Helen?

• 2:28Declan Donnelly?

But she says we are now old, including herself in that.

• 2:31Ant McPartlin?

  Right, okay.

• 2:31Declan Donnelly?

  So.

• 2:32Ant McPartlin?

So this old woman wrote in saying what? Calling us old. This old woman wrote in saying we should all chill because we're old. Sorry, disregard it. Crumple it up and throw it away.

• 2:46Declan Donnelly?

Thank you, Helen. Thank you for letting that. We're just going to file that right there.

• 2:49Ant McPartlin?

  I missed the bin.

• 2:49Declan Donnelly?

Just missed the bin. Welcome to the hangout.

• 2:51Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 2:52Declan Donnelly?

For another hanging out with me and him. We are back together. There's more, there's more planes coming here. She's poised.

• 2:59Ant McPartlin?

Double planes, double action. One came to Deck and one came to Ant. Right.

• 3:03Declan Donnelly?

  You go first.

• 3:04Ant McPartlin?

  I will go first.

• 3:05Declan Donnelly?

I'll go first. Elizabeth has emailed.

• 3:11Ant McPartlin?

  Go on then.

• 3:11Declan Donnelly?

Elizabeth has emailed us to say, I have been cabin crew for nine years and hearing that Deck puts his seatbelt over his blanket while sleeping makes him the perfect passenger.

• 3:21Ant McPartlin?

No. Do you know what, Elizabeth? It makes him a plane swat if there was such a thing. He's a plane swat.

• 3:27Declan Donnelly?

Thank you, Elizabeth. I'm just doing my bit to help cabin crew all over the world.

• 3:31Ant McPartlin?

How are you helping them? How are you helping them?

• 3:34Declan Donnelly?

Because if there's turbulence, they have to wake me up and say, have you got your seatbelt on? And nobody wants that. I don't want that.

• 3:40Ant McPartlin?

  You're helping them chill.

• 3:41Declan Donnelly?

  Exactly. In the hangout.

• 3:43Ant McPartlin?

Chelsea commented, after watching the latest episode, I wanted to share how handy Deck's random fat knowledge was. I was at a pub quiz and asked, beside love, what else is Saint Valentine the patron saying of? Thanks to Deck, I was able to select the correct answer, epilepsy. If I hadn't watched the podcast, I wouldn't have known that answer.

• 4:04Declan Donnelly?

There you go. Educational as well as fun.

• 4:06Ant McPartlin?

Why did I have to read that bit out? Go on, read the next bit.

• 4:09Declan Donnelly?

  I've put these comments together.

• 4:10Ant McPartlin?

He'd tell I'd never read the comments.

• 4:12Declan Donnelly?

This one, we just from the producers, we have received a lot of painful images of burned feet in solidarity with Deck.

• 4:18Ant McPartlin?

  Like text plums.

• 4:19Declan Donnelly?

  So this is.

• 4:20Ant McPartlin?

Not text feet look like plums, not text plums. Not text plums. He did not burn his, have you ever burnt your plums?

• 4:28Declan Donnelly?

No, no, let's, let's not start that riva. Let's not start that riva. My feet look like plums.

• 4:35Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, they look like plums. That's what I said, didn't I?

• 4:37Declan Donnelly?

Uh, but we have a message from our producers to say, please, please stop sending pictures of.

• 4:43Ant McPartlin?

We haven't shown any on the screen though.

• 4:45Speaker 03

  I'm not gonna.

• 4:46Ant McPartlin?

You're not gonna? Is it two, they're two burns?

• 4:48Speaker 03

  It's all body parts.

• 4:49Ant McPartlin?

  All body parts?

• 4:50Speaker 03

Burnt chests, burnt backs, feet, bottoms.

• 4:53Declan Donnelly?

  Burnt bottoms?

• 4:54Ant McPartlin?

Burnt bottoms, can I see them?

• 4:57Ant McPartlin?

Is there some you can just send to us? Okay, thanks. This comment says, many, many responses about the Chinese takeaway.

• 5:06Declan Donnelly?

  Yes.

• 5:07Ant McPartlin?

  But who is the winner?

• 5:08Declan Donnelly?

Well, I've been through the, the messages, I've been through the comments. I wanted to find out if our audience, the hanging out with Alan Deck audience were sophisticated or savages.

• 5:18Ant McPartlin?

Because Deck likes to take his time eating the Chinese takeaway.

• 5:22Declan Donnelly?

  He did course by course.

• 5:23Ant McPartlin?

He thinks he's sophisticated. I pile all of mine on at once and eat it all together. So Deck thinks I'm a savage. So there seems to be more people eating it like a savage.

• 5:33Declan Donnelly?

  You are savages.

• 5:34Ant McPartlin?

  Like me.

• 5:35Declan Donnelly?

  You're savages.

• 5:36Ant McPartlin?

You'll pile it on and eat away.

• 5:38Declan Donnelly?

  I went through the comments.

• 5:39Ant McPartlin?

Thank you very much. Yeah, you keep saying this. You keep saying this.

• 5:42Declan Donnelly?

Disheartened. He's like, just pile it on, savage for me, I go like, and. How where?

• 5:48Ant McPartlin?

I think that's, is that how our audience speak?

• 5:50Declan Donnelly?

  One or two of them.

• 5:51Ant McPartlin?

  Do it again.

• 5:52Declan Donnelly?

I'll just pile it on me like, and.

• 5:54Ant McPartlin?

I would like to write a comment, which is a letter of complaint about Deck's impression of our audience.

• 5:59Declan Donnelly?

That's not the whole audience. One or two of them though. You know who you are.

• 6:03Ant McPartlin?

And the other ones writing going, I do it like Deck, I like to take course by course. That's how a savage. Only one or two of them.

• 6:14Declan Donnelly?

And finally, Jamie has helpfully emailed and said, I have an idea for how you can liven up the podcast a bit.

• 6:20Ant McPartlin?

  Does it need liven up?

• 6:21Declan Donnelly?

  Apparently not.

• 6:22Ant McPartlin?

Does it? Because we were told, we were told, early doors, to relax and just chat.

• 6:26Declan Donnelly?

Now, we've gone a little bit too far and we need to liven it up again.

• 6:31Ant McPartlin?

  Okay, right, yeah.

• 6:32Declan Donnelly?

So Jamie has said, for the postbag section, you could do the dance you did back on SMTV Live.

• 6:37Ant McPartlin?

Ah, my sister had been saying this to me. My sister Emma said we should do this. So she got there first. Jamie.

• 6:44Declan Donnelly?

Well, can we address this point? Because we're not allowed, are we?

• 6:47Speaker 03

Well, the song we can't play.

• 6:49Ant McPartlin?

Well, if you can't play the song, we're going to dance to nothing. I look like a maniac.

• 6:55Speaker 03

For legal reasons, we cannot play this song. So here's just something our editor found.

• 7:01Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, it's a two.

• 7:08Ant McPartlin?

And that was it. See, I totally remembers. He remembers more dance moves than the Pussycat Dolls. You probably know the Pussycat Dolls entire gig. You swat, you dance swat.

• 7:21Declan Donnelly?

Let's put that out and see if we get sued. Thank you for all your comments. Please do keep them coming in, hanging out at beltabox.com. We love hearing from you. We love all your suggestions for how we can relax and then liven things up a bit more, then relax a bit.

• 7:33Ant McPartlin?

Make your mind up. Please just make your mind up. Don't know whether I'm coming or going. Where's the map? I used to hate it. But now I look forward to it.

• 7:40Declan Donnelly?

  Oh, you like it now?

• 7:41Ant McPartlin?

  Where's the map?

• 7:42Declan Donnelly?

I haven't got time for it this week.

• 7:43Ant McPartlin?

  What do you mean?

• 7:44Declan Donnelly?

I'm still putting my flags in. Our reach has grown and grown.

• 7:47Ant McPartlin?

  That's good.

• 7:48Declan Donnelly?

So I'm working on it. It'll be back next week.

• 7:51Ant McPartlin?

  Extra map next week?

• 7:52Declan Donnelly?

Extra map next week. Got some fantastic locations.

• 7:55Ant McPartlin?

  How's week been?

• 7:56Declan Donnelly?

It's been very good. A little trip away with the fam. Did you?

• 7:59Ant McPartlin?

  I did as well, yes.

• 8:00Declan Donnelly?

We've both been away, so we haven't really caught up.

• 8:01Ant McPartlin?

I went to a sunnier climate than you, by the look of things.

• 8:03Declan Donnelly?

I can tell. I can tell. It's got a little bit of sun on the old forehead.

• 8:06Ant McPartlin?

I would like to point something out now.

• 8:08Declan Donnelly?

  Go on.

• 8:09Ant McPartlin?

I had a lovely time, by the way, but I've ended up with an ear infection. So you know I had an eye infection a couple of weeks ago?

• 8:15Declan Donnelly?

  Yes.

• 8:16Ant McPartlin?

Got an ear infection and I can't hear out this left ear.

• 8:18Declan Donnelly?

  What did you say?

• 8:19Ant McPartlin?

I can't, I can hear out my right ear. So if I'm doing this and looking at you more like that, it's because I can't hear you and I need my right ear.

• 8:28Declan Donnelly?

  You can't hear?

• 8:29Ant McPartlin?

  No, can't hear.

• 8:30Declan Donnelly?

  Can't hear that?

• 8:31Ant McPartlin?

No. I mean, I can't hear it through the right ear. I just can't, I can't hear that. Can you hear that?

• 8:37Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 8:37Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, of course you can, very close. So I had to call a doctor out on like the second day. So he puts the little thing in me ears, uh, ear infection. Do you swim in the pool? I was like, yeah, I did swim in the pool a lot, you know? And he went, ah, I see. Children, lots of children in the pool, ear infections. I was saying to my wife, I was like, oh my God, can you believe it? That it's these kids in the pool, when you're on holiday, wean in the pool and being sick in the pool. And obviously there's bacteria in there.

• 9:03Declan Donnelly?

  Did you go on holiday?

• 9:05Ant McPartlin?

There's bacteria in the pool that that has given me an ear infection and I'm obviously very weak on that side of me head.

• 9:13Declan Donnelly?

Cause that's the, this is the, this is the eye.

• 9:15Ant McPartlin?

Same side of the head as the eye, the left eye, left ear. I did. I said, I can't believe it. I said, come on, control your kids. Can you believe that? And I'm, he was like, oh yeah, I can't believe it either. Anyway, I said, well, I wouldn't do that. You don't see my son going around being sick and weaning pools and stuff, do you? I said, no, because we look after them. The very next morning, he eats far too much watermelon for breakfast. And like loads of it. And I was like, look how much he loves watermelon. They're like, that's too much watermelon for him. And I kept giving it to him. And I was going, but he loves it. Yeah, more. He's got, have some more. He's holding himself these days. Have some more. Look how he holds me. He's got one in each hand. Have some more. So then he gets in the pool.

• 10:01Ant McPartlin?

Within two seconds, his eyes bulge out, his arms go down and I'm, he goes, get him out of the pool. Get him out of the pool. The, the, everything was a bit of a blur. I couldn't hear out the left ear. She was saying it. The ear infection was strong. The, the, the compulsion to vomit was strong from him. Just as I reached, I didn't make it in time. And he was sick, watermelon all over the pool.

• 10:26Declan Donnelly?

  Oh no.

• 10:29Ant McPartlin?

So it's thanks to parents like me.

• 10:31Declan Donnelly?

  You.

• 10:31Ant McPartlin?

It's, it's the parents like me that savages, savages that give other people ear infections.

• 10:37Declan Donnelly?

  No.

• 10:38Ant McPartlin?

And it's, we had to call the girl with the net. Yeah, to come and get the net.

• 10:41Declan Donnelly?

A net? Is she the manager?

• 10:42Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, yeah, she's the manager. So I had to get the net, get the water, as much watermelon as I could out. I was helping with my hands.

• 10:49Declan Donnelly?

  Scooping.

• 10:50Ant McPartlin?

Trying to scoop as well. He was like, sir, just let me, just let me, just let me do it. Just let me, I've dropped it again. I've dropped it again. So I can't hear you. I go, what did you say? Is that on me right?

• 11:01Declan Donnelly?

He's like, I know you feel bad, but please, you're just getting in my way.

• 11:04Ant McPartlin?

And control your kids because this kind of behaviour gives people ear infections.

• 11:07Declan Donnelly?

  Oh no.

• 11:09Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, that was by pop, that was lovely.

• 11:11Declan Donnelly?

We had a bit of mishap around water. Yeah, we went up to Scotland. Well, I went to Newcastle first, went to the Toon.

• 11:16Ant McPartlin?

  Yes.

• 11:17Declan Donnelly?

Checked in with the family, saw the whole family who are very much.

• 11:19Ant McPartlin?

You could check in, you've got to check in.

• 11:21Declan Donnelly?

I've got to check in, yeah. Yeah, my family were in a hotel. Checked in with the family and they're all very much enjoying the podcast.

• 11:29Ant McPartlin?

  Good.

• 11:30Declan Donnelly?

All very intrigued as to how much Ant's pants were.

• 11:32Ant McPartlin?

Can't tell them until I meet them in person. That was the pledge.

• 11:35Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 11:36Ant McPartlin?

  Family.

• 11:36Declan Donnelly?

  Tell them.

• 11:37Ant McPartlin?

  Did you tell them?

• 11:37Declan Donnelly?

  No.

• 11:38Ant McPartlin?

  Did you tell them?

• 11:39Declan Donnelly?

I might have told one or two.

• 11:40Ant McPartlin?

Well then, I know your family are like, they'll all tell each other because there are a lot of gossips.

• 11:47Declan Donnelly?

So they were all very impressed with that.

• 11:50Ant McPartlin?

  Impressed?

• 11:51Declan Donnelly?

Impressed with your, your new expenditure. Went shopping in town, went to Fenix.

• 11:56Ant McPartlin?

  Did you?

• 11:57Declan Donnelly?

  Department store.

• 11:57Ant McPartlin?

  Love Fenix.

• 11:58Declan Donnelly?

Went shopping around Fenix. Everybody in Fenix.

• 12:00Ant McPartlin?

  Did you buy any underwear?

• 12:01Declan Donnelly?

I did not, but a few of the, a few of the assistants in Fenix were very interested as to how much you spent on your pants. Everybody's just asking me in Newcastle, how much you spent on your pants.

• 12:12Ant McPartlin?

Everybody's asking me. The cabin crew on the way out there who didn't mention anything about you sleeping with your seatbelt on.

• 12:20Ant McPartlin?

  They didn't mention that.

• 12:20Declan Donnelly?

  Grateful.

• 12:21Ant McPartlin?

They didn't mention that. But they did ask me about my pants, so I told them. People have been out and about all the time. I've told them. It is the question on everyone's lips at the minute. What can I say?

• 12:32Declan Donnelly?

So yeah, so I did that. Then went up to Scotland. Didn't think that through. It was freezing.

• 12:35Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 12:36Declan Donnelly?

Beautiful though, beautiful, but really, really cold. Obviously, yeah, didn't get much sunshine.

• 12:42Ant McPartlin?

What was the temperature? Because it was about 25, 26 daily for me.

• 12:45Declan Donnelly?

  Oh, was it?

• 12:46Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 12:46Declan Donnelly?

  Oh, was it?

• 12:47Ant McPartlin?

Was it mega hot? But it was just, you know, I love the sun.

• 12:49Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah, you do.

• 12:50Ant McPartlin?

So I can sit in it, read a book.

• 12:51Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 12:52Ant McPartlin?

  Lovely.

• 12:52Declan Donnelly?

  Well, we had one day.

• 12:53Ant McPartlin?

  My girls loved it.

• 12:54Declan Donnelly?

We had one day when it was warmer than all the others and it got up, it got up to one degree.

• 12:59Ant McPartlin?

  Did it? Did it?

• 13:00Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 13:00Ant McPartlin?

Oh God, take your jumper off here.

• 13:02Declan Donnelly?

It was fresh. It was really fresh. So much so, the lake and the hotel was frozen over.

• 13:07Ant McPartlin?

  Was it?

• 13:08Declan Donnelly?

Which was far too tempting for Jack. So he went over to the lake because he wanted to bash on the ice.

• 13:17Declan Donnelly?

  Straight in.

• 13:18Ant McPartlin?

  He went in.

• 13:18Declan Donnelly?

  In the ice water.

• 13:19Ant McPartlin?

  Frozen lake.

• 13:20Declan Donnelly?

  Frozen.

• 13:20Ant McPartlin?

  What did you do?

• 13:21Declan Donnelly?

Well, it, it, it was frozen, but it was all cracked up. So it wasn't like, you know, it wasn't like an ice rink.

• 13:26Ant McPartlin?

  Right.

• 13:26Declan Donnelly?

It was all cracked up. So that was the thing. He wanted to grab a bit of the ice.

• 13:29Ant McPartlin?

Oh yeah, we all do that.

• 13:30Declan Donnelly?

To pick it up and he went over and just.

• 13:32Ant McPartlin?

  I still do that.

• 13:33Declan Donnelly?

Yeah. Head over heels. He was in the water.

• 13:35Ant McPartlin?

  Face first.

• 13:36Declan Donnelly?

  Breezing cold.

• 13:36Ant McPartlin?

  Oh my God.

• 13:37Declan Donnelly?

Yeah. So he didn't get any ear infection, but um.

• 13:40Ant McPartlin?

  That's surprising, isn't it?

• 13:42Declan Donnelly?

  It is surprising.

• 13:43Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah. You know, that's a pond, that's a lake.

• 13:45Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 13:45Ant McPartlin?

If anything, there's more bacteria in there.

• 13:47Declan Donnelly?

  Swans in there.

• 13:48Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 13:48Declan Donnelly?

Ducks and stuff. But yeah, so we did that and then came back and warmed up after that. Got up to five, six degrees and was positively balmy. Uh, but yeah, it was nice. It's nice to have a little break.

• 13:59Ant McPartlin?

I tell you what I've also had, and I want to say thank you. I've had a lot of people wishing me well and giving me um their sympathies for Hurley that passed away. It was honestly, it was such a shock when he passed, but the love that people have poured on me everywhere I've gone, you know, even when I was on holiday, even this morning, just strangers in the street coming over saying, there he is there on the screen. If you can't see, that's my lovely boy Hurley. He was a chalky brown Labrador. Uh, he was 12 and a half when he passed and he passed away, passed in my arms. We're at the vets and we're all there to see him, all the family, everyone that he loved was there and it was a, it was a very sad, but it was a very lovely moment when we all got to say goodbye to him.

• 14:45Ant McPartlin?

I've cried a lot. I've cried for anyone that's lost a pet that is, that is beloved to them, then my heart goes out to you and I know how you feel because it's, it's tough. You're just reminded of him all the time, you know, wherever you go, the walks that you, because I've still got two other dogs. So I still have to take them for walks. So the walks that we go on, the walks that we used to go on with him and you know, it just, I've cried in the middle of walks and I've cried putting, making their dog food because the balls are next to his ball, but it's been awful, but, but thank you. Thank you for coming over. Thank you for speaking to me. I'll never um not thank you for that because it actually, it's really quite soothing and it does help.

• 15:25Ant McPartlin?

And it's, it's nice to hear if you've ever lost a pet or a dog, especially that's, that you were close to that, how, just how much it means to you. So thanks.

• 15:34Declan Donnelly?

Think that's a good time to take a pause.

• 15:41Ant McPartlin?

This podcast is sponsored by Santander, who understand that getting started on a goal isn't easy and taking a meaningful first step is how progress happens.

• 15:50Declan Donnelly?

So we're a few weeks into the pod, in full swing now. How do you feel it's going now as opposed to when we started?

• 15:56Ant McPartlin?

Better. No, I enjoyed the first one because we were both a bit nervous.

• 16:02Declan Donnelly?

  We weren't nervous yet.

• 16:03Ant McPartlin?

And we were like, how's it gonna be taken by the viewers and the listeners? How's it gonna go down? But it's gone down well.

• 16:08Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah, it's been really nice.

• 16:09Ant McPartlin?

And that gives you confidence to keep doing more. Yeah, exactly.

• 16:13Declan Donnelly?

What I really enjoy as well is like hearing the hangout.

• 16:15Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 16:16Declan Donnelly?

It's a little bit of a calm space, a safe space.

• 16:18Ant McPartlin?

  It's a working title, that, isn't it?

• 16:19Declan Donnelly?

It's a bit of a safe space to kind of share.

• 16:22Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, and it's not just too serious.

• 16:24Declan Donnelly?

  Just relax and chat.

• 16:26Ant McPartlin?

That's what I've realised, just relaxing and chatting is the best way forward. And I didn't know that prior to a podcast. The mystery door, you know, we don't know what's behind there, we don't know what's gonna come through, but we can deal with it.

• 16:39Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 16:39Ant McPartlin?

The more you do it, the more confident you get.

• 16:41Declan Donnelly?

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. And that's what Santander is doing, working hard to help customers build the confidence they need to achieve a goal that matters to them.

• 16:51Ant McPartlin?

  Santander, it starts here.

• 16:54Ant McPartlin?

Now, you were gonna bring me the backstory, the origin story of Saint Anthony.

• 17:02Declan Donnelly?

  Anthony, Anthony, Anthony.

• 17:03Ant McPartlin?

  What?

• 17:04Declan Donnelly?

It's pronounced both ways. Some people call it Saint Anthony, some people call it Saint Anthony. I know you're a Tha, aren't you?

• 17:09Ant McPartlin?

  Iren Anthony.

• 17:10Declan Donnelly?

Not a Tony, you, are you? You don't, he's not a Tony, is he?

• 17:13Ant McPartlin?

No, you know I'm not a Tony.

• 17:15Declan Donnelly?

  Tony Mac.

• 17:16Ant McPartlin?

I'm not a Tony Mac. The mate of ours, Alan, who will be listening to this, he really likes podcasts, by the way.

• 17:22Declan Donnelly?

  He loves it.

• 17:23Ant McPartlin?

Hi, Al. Just to wind me up, he will call me Tony Mac. I'm not a Tony. Nothing against Tonys of this world or Macs, just I ain't that.

• 17:32Declan Donnelly?

  Tony Mac.

• 17:33Ant McPartlin?

  I'm not Tony Mac.

• 17:34Declan Donnelly?

  Tony Mac.

• 17:34Ant McPartlin?

Tony, I'm not Tony Mac. No, it won't be on the poster.

• 17:37Declan Donnelly?

Hanging out. Tony Mac and Dec. Sounds like three of us. Tony, Mac and Dec.

• 17:46Declan Donnelly?

  So St Anthony.

• 17:46Ant McPartlin?

  Come on, origin story, please.

• 17:48Declan Donnelly?

St Anthony of Padua, and he was a priest. And he had what's known as a bravery, which is.

• 17:56Ant McPartlin?

  I can't hear.

• 17:57Declan Donnelly?

I said, I said he had a bravery.

• 17:59Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 17:59Declan Donnelly?

Which is not a Bible, but it's a book of like prayers and psalms.

• 18:03Ant McPartlin?

  Right.

• 18:04Declan Donnelly?

All that kind of stuff, all that jazz. Okay. So his bravery went missing and it was stolen.

• 18:09Ant McPartlin?

  Right.

• 18:11Declan Donnelly?

And he prayed so hard and the thief who took it was overcome with guilt that he brought it back.

• 18:19Ant McPartlin?

  No way.

• 18:20Declan Donnelly?

So St Anthony is the patron saint of lost things.

• 18:23Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, he is.

• 18:23Declan Donnelly?

So if you lose your thing.

• 18:25Ant McPartlin?

  Pray to Saint Anthony.

• 18:26Declan Donnelly?

If you lose anything, you pray to St Anthony, Anthony, and that will be returned to you or you'll find it'll turn up somewhere. And that's how he became the patron saint of lost things.

• 18:36Ant McPartlin?

  Brilliant. I like these.

• 18:38Declan Donnelly?

  Very quick one.

• 18:39Ant McPartlin?

I know, that's good though. I like, I do like these. Bring them some more next week.

• 18:42Declan Donnelly?

  Okay.

• 18:43Ant McPartlin?

  Whenever you can.

• 18:44Declan Donnelly?

  Okay.

• 18:45Ant McPartlin?

Do you like them? Am I the only one?

• 18:46Speaker 04

I like that. If I lose something, I go, Tony, Tony, look around, something's lost and must be found.

• 18:51Ant McPartlin?

Tony, Tony. I'm sure the saint Anthony doesn't want to be called Tony as much as I don't want to be called Tony. So from now on, Anthony, Anthony, or Anthony, Anthony, however you want to pronounce it, turn around. I've lost something that needs to be found. That's what you should be saying. Tony, give over. He's a saint. God bless him.

• 19:19Declan Donnelly?

You're very familiar with the saints, Phil.

• 19:21Ant McPartlin?

Too, some would say too familiar.

• 19:25Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, Brits weekend this weekend.

• 19:27Declan Donnelly?

Brits Saturday, you're not hosting it.

• 19:29Ant McPartlin?

  No, I'm not, are you?

• 19:31Declan Donnelly?

  No, I'm not.

• 19:31Ant McPartlin?

  Not again.

• 19:32Declan Donnelly?

  We've hosted it three times.

• 19:34Ant McPartlin?

  Three times, never again.

• 19:38Declan Donnelly?

  It's quite-

• 19:38Ant McPartlin?

Well, actually, I should never say never.

• 19:39Declan Donnelly?

  Never say never.

• 19:40Ant McPartlin?

Because it's a weird thing to host.

• 19:42Declan Donnelly?

Well, we hosted it in, was it 2000 or 2001?

• 19:45Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, God.

• 19:46Declan Donnelly?

And after that, we said, never again. And then they came back in, well, they came back a few times. But in 2015, for some reason, we said, oh, go on, then we'll do it again. And then we said, never again.

• 19:56Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 19:56Declan Donnelly?

And then the following year, they went, do you not do it one more time? We're like, and they went, that'll make it three times. We went, all right, then let's make it three, we'll make it three. So we did it.

• 20:03Ant McPartlin?

And the reason why it's, we always say, oh, never again. It's not because we don't believe in the awards. We, I really do, I think they're really good for British music. You know, it's, it's actually a really good night if you're there as somebody who's been nominated. Cause we'd been nominated for a Brit back in, back in the day. And that was, that was a fun night. We didn't win that night.

• 20:24Declan Donnelly?

Best newcomer we were, we were nominated for in 1994. And you won't even believe who won it, who went on to win it.

• 20:31Ant McPartlin?

  You probably, you probably-

• 20:32Declan Donnelly?

You would never have heard of them again.

• 20:33Ant McPartlin?

They were a band from Manchester called Oasis.

• 20:39Ant McPartlin?

Like the drink. Yeah, yeah. I like the clothes shop. Do you remember the clothes shop Oasis? Yeah.

• 20:44Declan Donnelly?

Yeah, they won best newcomer that year. They didn't go, they didn't, I don't think they achieved anything.

• 20:48Ant McPartlin?

Nah, I'm not, I'm not quite sure.

• 20:50Declan Donnelly?

  Don't know what they did.

• 20:50Ant McPartlin?

So Shane, if they'd stuck out, it, they could have been big. But anyway, yeah, so we were nominated, but it's, yeah, it's a fun night if you're, if you're nominated. It's a fun night, not necessarily if you're hosting it though. Because everybody in the room just wants to get drunk and have a good time. And you're trying to wrangle the whole crowd and you're also trying to present a TV show. And also all the artists and bands who said they would happily do an interview with you before the show starts always change their mind. They're like, and down in the middle of the show, a co-host are gonna do an interview with you. And you're like, great, it's gonna be a great show. And then come to the night, like 10 minutes before you go live, they say, um, co-host, they don't really don't wanna do an interview before, uh, before they perform.

• 21:31Declan Donnelly?

This is the start of, I'm beef with Chris Martin.

• 21:33Ant McPartlin?

  I don't have beef with-

• 21:34Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah, you do.

• 21:35Ant McPartlin?

I don't have beef with Chris Martin.

• 21:37Declan Donnelly?

  You should.

• 21:37Ant McPartlin?

  Why should I?

• 21:38Declan Donnelly?

Cause we need beef with people to, that's how you boost your YouTube viewers. And what, one of the best feelings though is getting to the end of it. And it feels like you've, you've landed the show, you've landed that plane. It's been a bit of turbulence, but you've landed the plane. And we felt that one time, we, um, was it the 2015 one?

• 21:54Ant McPartlin?

  Madonna.

• 21:55Declan Donnelly?

That Madonna was, we had to hit this, we had to hit the Madonna link on zero. We get there and it's chaotic and it's always, the last award is always for best album. So we'd come off best album, we, we filled a bit of time and then we go, and here we are to close the show. It's Madonna. We throw it to Madonna.

• 22:11Ant McPartlin?

And we say Madonna on zero in our ear. We're getting a countdown in our ear. We're like, yes, we've landed this plane.

• 22:18Declan Donnelly?

  We turned to each other.

• 22:19Ant McPartlin?

  What's up captain?

• 22:20Declan Donnelly?

We fist bumped like that. We're like boom. Somebody came over, handed us a glass of champagne each. Went, yes, we did it. We turned around and we started walking out of the auditorium. So we, we head back to our dressing room and we're there. Cheers, cheers, chin chin. Lovely job. Well done. And then we put on the TV and it's like top story in the news. Madonna falls at the Brits. We're like, no, she didn't. No, she didn't. She was, she was performing in there. We missed the whole thing.

• 22:46Ant McPartlin?

We missed it. Do you remember it was the famous bit where they pulled the cape and the cape stuck on her? And it was meant to come off in one, but it didn't.

• 22:53Declan Donnelly?

  Stairs backwards.

• 22:54Ant McPartlin?

And she turned backward down the stairs. It was, it was that, yeah. But we missed it all.

• 22:58Speaker 02

Did you see her after at all?

• 23:00Ant McPartlin?

Madonna. We didn't see Madonna afterwards now. Nah. I think she was with St John's ambulance. So she was held up.

• 23:08Declan Donnelly?

Ah, St John. Now there's an interesting one.

• 23:10Ant McPartlin?

Oh yeah. That is a good one.

• 23:13Declan Donnelly?

  Come back to that one.

• 23:13Ant McPartlin?

So can we have St John next week?

• 23:15Declan Donnelly?

  Oh, if you want.

• 23:16Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 23:16Declan Donnelly?

And how did he get an ambulance?

• 23:20Declan Donnelly?

That was also the awards that Kim Kardashian was due to come on and present an award. And we were going to do this thing where we go, Kim, do you mind if we get a photo? And she was going to go, yes. Then we were going to give her our phone and go, okay.

• 23:31Ant McPartlin?

Take a picture of us too. It's the gag that people do to us all the time on the street, which is hilarious.

• 23:36Declan Donnelly?

  So.

• 23:36Ant McPartlin?

But we have heard it, okay? So don't do it again. Okay?

• 23:42Declan Donnelly?

So we went, Kim, do you mind if we get a photo? And she went, yeah, sure, of course. I'll take it. And she got us into a selfie pose like that.

• 23:49Ant McPartlin?

So the gag didn't really work, but you're like, oh, at least we've got a picture together. We post it.

• 23:52Declan Donnelly?

So I had the, while I had the camera, then I took the camera, had the camera and I was like, oh, my camera's locked. I can't get it open. And I was like, oh. And she stood there and she's going, geez. And I'm going, ah. And I was like, ah, come on, get me camera to take.

• 24:04Ant McPartlin?

I'm thinking, why is it taking so long? It's live telly. This is just meant to be part of a sketch. It didn't go the way we wanted to, but we will get a nice photo that we can put on our social media.

• 24:13Declan Donnelly?

  Didn't get it.

• 24:14Ant McPartlin?

  Didn't get it.

• 24:15Declan Donnelly?

Didn't get it. So there's a picture of us having a selfie with Kim Kardashian, but the actual selfie.

• 24:18Ant McPartlin?

Somebody's fingers got all jammed up.

• 24:21Declan Donnelly?

  I got a bit nervous.

• 24:21Ant McPartlin?

  Phone was a bit sweaty.

• 24:23Declan Donnelly?

I got too nervous. Didn't get myself with Kim.

• 24:27Ant McPartlin?

This is an advert for Gemini, Google's personal AI assistant.

• 24:31Declan Donnelly?

  Now, I've been thinking.

• 24:32Ant McPartlin?

  Yep.

• 24:32Declan Donnelly?

We've had a few comments saying about we need a bit more energy in the show, a bit more pizzazz.

• 24:38Ant McPartlin?

  Pizzazz? Who said that?

• 24:40Declan Donnelly?

  That's what the word.

• 24:41Ant McPartlin?

  Who uses the word pizzazz?

• 24:42Declan Donnelly?

That is a word that was used that they want more of in the show.

• 24:45Ant McPartlin?

  Right.

• 24:46Declan Donnelly?

So I thought a way we could do it is by using Gemini to pizzazz up our theme tune.

• 24:51Ant McPartlin?

  Okay, okay then.

• 24:52Declan Donnelly?

So have a look at this. Create music.

• 24:54Ant McPartlin?

Oh, you can pick a track to remix.

• 24:56Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah. So what style?

• 24:57Ant McPartlin?

  Uh, 8-bit.

• 24:59Declan Donnelly?

So you put in here, what do we want it to reference? Bananas?

• 25:02Ant McPartlin?

Yeah. Burnt feet. Burnt feet. Bananas.

• 25:06Declan Donnelly?

  Uh, Dex's Diary.

• 25:07Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 25:07Declan Donnelly?

  And, um, Backstories of Saints.

• 25:12Ant McPartlin?

  Origin Stories of Saints.

• 25:14Declan Donnelly?

Here we go. I've created your 8-bit chiptune.

• 25:17Ant McPartlin?

  Track's ready to play.

• 25:18Declan Donnelly?

  Well, let's play it then.

• 25:19Ant McPartlin?

  Hit it!

• 25:44Ant McPartlin?

Did Gemini make this? That bloody good!

• 25:48Declan Donnelly?

  That is good, isn't it?

• 25:49Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah!

• 25:49Declan Donnelly?

  I'd take that.

• 27:23Declan Donnelly?

Did you watch much on your little break?

• 27:25Ant McPartlin?

I watched a bit. I finished Steel Now.

• 27:27Declan Donnelly?

Well, can we update your banana rating?

• 27:29Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, starting on eight bananas.

• 27:30Declan Donnelly?

Eight bananas, eight out of eight.

• 27:31Ant McPartlin?

Lola, you were a bit skeptical about my eight banana rating.

• 27:35Speaker 02

I think the first episode, brilliant, and then I said it, I don't think it is as good.

• 27:40Ant McPartlin?

It doesn't sustain. I'd say eight bananas along nicely for me.

• 27:44Declan Donnelly?

  To the very end?

• 27:45Ant McPartlin?

No, not to the very end. No, it probably, it loses a banana in the last couple of episodes.

• 27:50Declan Donnelly?

Is that part of the plot or?

• 27:52Ant McPartlin?

No, no, there's no, actually, there's no bananas in the show. I'm surprised they enjoy it, but, but it's worth a watch. Banana rating, you know, so what we're averaging, six and a half, seven?

• 28:03Declan Donnelly?

  Six and a half.

• 28:04Ant McPartlin?

Six and a half out of a possible eight. That is good.

• 28:09Declan Donnelly?

  That is good.

• 28:10Ant McPartlin?

  That's good. You watch anything?

• 28:11Declan Donnelly?

I'm halfway through His and Hers on Netflix.

• 28:14Ant McPartlin?

And banana rating so high? Out of eight, eight is the world record.

• 28:19Declan Donnelly?

Well, yeah, it's not getting that. The current Mrs. Donnelly is very much enjoying it.

• 28:26Ant McPartlin?

  Yes.

• 28:26Declan Donnelly?

But she falls asleep quite a lot. She's got what's known as Netflix narcolepsy.

• 28:31Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, oh, yes, yeah, that's a thing.

• 28:32Declan Donnelly?

As soon as she hears dun dun, she goes.

• 28:36Ant McPartlin?

  My wife loved it.

• 28:38Declan Donnelly?

Yes, yes, I can see that. I can understand that.

• 28:40Ant McPartlin?

  Why?

• 28:44Declan Donnelly?

No, I think it's much more of a girly thing.

• 28:46Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, it is. It is.

• 28:47Declan Donnelly?

Yeah, at the moment, it's three and a half bananas for me.

• 28:50Ant McPartlin?

  What?

• 28:51Declan Donnelly?

I kind of feel like it's the kind of thing you would see on possibly a non-terrestrial TV channel at four o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon.

• 29:00Ant McPartlin?

Okay, that's the kind of thing my wife loves. So you're all right?

• 29:03Declan Donnelly?

There. I said exactly that to my wife, and she said, my current wife, and she loves it when I call her that. I said exactly that to her, and she went, maybe that's why I like it.

• 29:14Ant McPartlin?

We should get the pair of them together, and they can watch stuff together.

• 29:17Declan Donnelly?

  Yes, and then I-

• 29:17Ant McPartlin?

And then we can watch both stuff.

• 29:19Declan Donnelly?

  Yes.

• 29:19Ant McPartlin?

  Yes, let's do that.

• 29:21Declan Donnelly?

  What a great idea.

• 29:22Ant McPartlin?

  Great.

• 29:22Declan Donnelly?

What else is good that's on? Small Profits.

• 29:25Speaker 04

  So good.

• 29:26Ant McPartlin?

  Is it that good?

• 29:26Declan Donnelly?

  That's a hard recommend.

• 29:27Speaker 04

I watched it in one sitting.

• 29:29Ant McPartlin?

  How many bananas?

• 29:30Speaker 04

  Eight.

• 29:31Ant McPartlin?

  Wow!

• 29:32Declan Donnelly?

  Eight bananas.

• 29:33Ant McPartlin?

  What?

• 29:33Speaker 04

  No, seven, seven, seven.

• 29:35Ant McPartlin?

Don't roll back on your bananas, because that's good.

• 29:38Declan Donnelly?

That was gonna be in the trailer, eight bananas! And they go, actually, seven.

• 29:42Ant McPartlin?

Hang it out, we're gonna give it eight bananas. They might even put it on the poster.

• 29:46Declan Donnelly?

  That'd be good, wouldn't it?

• 29:46Ant McPartlin?

That would be really good. If you are a film company, and you really wanna include our banana rating on one of your posters, then feel free. Because they're not gonna do it if we only give three of it. They're just not.

• 30:00Declan Donnelly?

  Okay.

• 30:00Ant McPartlin?

They're only gonna do it if we give like seven or eight. So Fiona, I'm gonna ask you that again. How many bananas?

• 30:06Speaker 04

  Eight bananas.

• 30:07Ant McPartlin?

Eight bananas? Put that on the poster!

• 30:09Declan Donnelly?

  Wow!

• 30:12Ant McPartlin?

We've got a jingle for Dex Diary. Good. I have to say thank you for anybody who sends in jingles or anything, because we're really appreciative. So keep sending them in. Shall we play it? Do I need any backstory? Can we tell you who it's from?

• 30:25Speaker 04

  It's from Brett.

• 30:26Ant McPartlin?

  Brett. Brett.

• 30:28Declan Donnelly?

I like the sound of Brett already.

• 30:29Ant McPartlin?

  Do you?

• 30:29Declan Donnelly?

  He sounds cool.

• 30:30Ant McPartlin?

  Brett, here's your jingle.

• 30:44Ant McPartlin?

  Wow! This is good.

• 30:53Declan Donnelly?

  What's gone again?

• 30:54Ant McPartlin?

  It's mine!

• 30:54Declan Donnelly?

  Is this the Twilight version?

• 31:01Ant McPartlin?

Quite a tough list for somebody with only one here.

• 31:05Ant McPartlin?

  There's a lot on there.

• 31:06Declan Donnelly?

There's a lot going on there.

• 31:07Ant McPartlin?

There's a lot going on there. Very good though Brett.

• 31:10Declan Donnelly?

  That is quite a big.

• 31:11Ant McPartlin?

What are you doing? What's this? What's in the drawer?

• 31:14Declan Donnelly?

  My diary.

• 31:14Ant McPartlin?

Oh, I thought this was gonna be a surprise.

• 31:16Declan Donnelly?

I've got a surprise if you want one.

• 31:18Ant McPartlin?

  What's the surprise?

• 31:19Declan Donnelly?

  Hair gel.

• 31:22Declan Donnelly?

  Put some hair gel.

• 31:23Ant McPartlin?

  Why is that in there?

• 31:23Declan Donnelly?

Just in case I need a little gel before the show.

• 31:26Ant McPartlin?

Oh, it's like 1994 all over again.

• 31:29Declan Donnelly?

It's a short one this week.

• 31:30Ant McPartlin?

  Is it?

• 31:30Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 31:31Ant McPartlin?

  Just like the author.

• 31:35Declan Donnelly?

  Very good.

• 31:35Ant McPartlin?

  That's his short.

• 31:37Declan Donnelly?

  2nd of April 1994, up at 1pm.

• 31:41Ant McPartlin?

  Up at 1pm, you lazybones.

• 31:45Declan Donnelly?

  Yes, lazy get, I know.

• 31:47Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, a get.

• 31:48Declan Donnelly?

Lazy get. And set off for Portsmouth around 3pm.

• 31:52Ant McPartlin?

  Wow.

• 31:53Declan Donnelly?

  Had a sound check.

• 31:54Ant McPartlin?

  Sound check?

• 31:56Declan Donnelly?

And waited for the place to fill up.

• 31:59Ant McPartlin?

  That's a long wait, isn't it?

• 32:00Declan Donnelly?

  Yeah.

• 32:00Ant McPartlin?

I don't know. I took on visions of us like just sat there on stage. Hiya, come on in, come and take a seat, take a seat.

• 32:07Declan Donnelly?

There's plenty of room down the front.

• 32:08Ant McPartlin?

I've gotta wait till all 2000 of you come in and then I'll begin.

• 32:11Declan Donnelly?

It was nice to see everyone again at the Now Magazine Roadshow.

• 32:15Ant McPartlin?

  Oh wow, remember Now Magazine?

• 32:17Declan Donnelly?

All the old faces were there from the beginning. Peter Andre. Menegy.

• 32:23Ant McPartlin?

  Menegy.

• 32:24Declan Donnelly?

  Men with energy.

• 32:27Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, they were like male strippers.

• 32:30Declan Donnelly?

They were like the Chippendales who released music.

• 32:33Ant McPartlin?

And Andre was also a bit like a stripper who released music.

• 32:37Ant McPartlin?

And I'll tell him that with his face.

• 32:39Declan Donnelly?

  He was.

• 32:39Ant McPartlin?

So if he's behind that mystery door Monday, I'll tell him, aye, Andre.

• 32:42Declan Donnelly?

Put some clothes on. And loads of others. The crowd were good.

• 32:47Ant McPartlin?

  Good.

• 32:48Declan Donnelly?

  Good.

• 32:48Ant McPartlin?

  Good.

• 32:49Declan Donnelly?

A few Ant and Dec banners were floating around.

• 32:51Ant McPartlin?

  Were they?

• 32:52Declan Donnelly?

Which is always nice to see.

• 32:53Ant McPartlin?

That is nice to see, especially when it took us so long to make them.

• 33:00Declan Donnelly?

  A few drinks.

• 33:01Ant McPartlin?

  Uh huh.

• 33:01Declan Donnelly?

And a few autographs later, we set off for the hotel. A pizza along the way and tucked up in bed with a good carry on film. And then I've written.

• 33:14Declan Donnelly?

I've written the Sid James last.

• 33:18Ant McPartlin?

  That was a good impression.

• 33:21Ant McPartlin?

  Very good.

• 33:22Declan Donnelly?

  I've written, H U.

• 33:25Ant McPartlin?

Do I have any quotes of the day?

• 33:26Declan Donnelly?

  Quotes of the day.

• 33:27Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, we do.

• 33:28Declan Donnelly?

The stage manager to me, I don't know what I said, but he said, hey, pick on someone your own size, like a subutio player. Flick to kick. It's rude, isn't it?

• 33:40Ant McPartlin?

  Cheeky.

• 33:41Declan Donnelly?

We'll have to bleep that. That was Portsmouth on the 2nd of April, 1994.

• 33:46Ant McPartlin?

  Very good. Very good.

• 33:48Speaker 03

I've got a question about it.

• 33:52Declan Donnelly?

Got a question that's flown in, been especially flown in from a listener.

• 33:57Ant McPartlin?

A listener called and a viewer called John.

• 34:00Declan Donnelly?

  Hello, John.

• 34:01Ant McPartlin?

Hi, John. How much of an identity issue was it in the 90s when you had to be PJ and Duncan? A fictional music duo when you were Ant and Dec, some decent actors, but soon to be great presenters. That's nice.

• 34:15Declan Donnelly?

  Thanks, John.

• 34:15Ant McPartlin?

Listening to Dex's diary, I can't help but think there must have been some identity crises.

• 34:19Declan Donnelly?

  Yes, there was.

• 34:20Ant McPartlin?

  Thoughts?

• 34:21Declan Donnelly?

Very much so, because PJ and Duncan, for those that don't know, were all character names.

• 34:25Ant McPartlin?

  But they're uneducated.

• 34:26Declan Donnelly?

Our character names in Biker Grove.

• 34:29Ant McPartlin?

  Yep.

• 34:29Declan Donnelly?

And the very last series of Biker Grove, we did a song in the show. We formed a band, did a song in the show. That was the storyline and it was supposed to be that it spun out and we had a music career. It all went a bit haywire and it didn't quite happen. And then it was off and then it was on, then it was off. And then it was finally on again. So we released it as PJ and Duncan, the song we did in the show. Didn't do very much, but then the record company said, well, we want another one and then we want another one. So we were still though PJ and Duncan from the TV show, even though we weren't in the show anymore, we'd been written out.

• 35:01Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 35:02Declan Donnelly?

But we were still being referred to as PJ and Duncan. And then we started touring and doing, doing like Europe, doing Germany and Sweden. And they were going, what is the name PJ and Duncan? We're like, this is such a long.

• 35:12Ant McPartlin?

  Long story.

• 35:13Declan Donnelly?

  Boring story.

• 35:14Ant McPartlin?

And you won't get Biker Grove because nobody understood Biker Grove outside of the UK. So it was, yeah, there was a bit of an identity crisis, John. Thanks for bringing that up. It was only by the third album did we drop PJ and Duncan and we called ourselves Ant and Dec.

• 35:29Declan Donnelly?

That was the last, last album we ever made.

• 35:31Ant McPartlin?

It was, we sold a lot less of those albums than we did the PJ and Duncan albums. But it was weird. It was weird because then ultimately you, you feel like you're playing a character on stage all the time, don't you? Which is, I think part of how we kind of got through it and then, and we enjoyed it. And you could kind of enjoy it.

• 35:48Declan Donnelly?

  At arm's length.

• 35:49Ant McPartlin?

At arm's length, yeah, not get too wrapped up in it. Do you know what was really weird? When we, we used to tour Japan, we would always have to have a translator for the interviews. And we'd do interviews with like radio stations and magazines and newspapers. And every now and again, they would speak in Japanese and they'd be speaking a load of Japanese words and they would, they, so what they would tend to do is describe you to the listener or the reader. And then you hear them going, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese. And they'd look at Dec like, Japanese, Japanese, Paul McCartney. Japanese, Japanese, Japanese. I was like, what on earth? And I, did they say Paul McCartney? And they're like, yeah, I think so. Well, we've got no, we, no one explained the context and then we'd do the next one.

• 36:32Ant McPartlin?

And then the next day, we'd be doing the interview and then they would look at Dec and go, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese, Japanese, Michael J Fox.

• 36:43Ant McPartlin?

Japanese, Japanese, Japanese. So I presume they're like saying, he looks a bit like Paul McCartney or he looks a bit like Michael J Fox, but nobody explained it to us. So we're looking at the translator like.

• 36:53Declan Donnelly?

Why? What's, what is going on here?

• 36:55Ant McPartlin?

  And they never said.

• 36:56Declan Donnelly?

Nowadays it would be Japanese, Japanese, Japanese, Andrew.

• 36:59Ant McPartlin?

  Scott.

• 37:03Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, should we play it again as a play out? There's an outro. There's an outro? I thought you were just gonna play it again. It was that good, Brett.

• 37:09Declan Donnelly?

  Brett, you are.

• 37:10Ant McPartlin?

I would have listened to it again.

• 37:11Declan Donnelly?

  You're really spoiling us.

• 37:12Ant McPartlin?

  Come on then.

• 37:33Ant McPartlin?

Oh, again, an assault on the senses, Brett. A sheer assault on my head.

• 37:39Declan Donnelly?

I liked it. It sounded sunny.

• 37:41Ant McPartlin?

Very good. Very good. Well done. Well done.

• 37:45Ant McPartlin?

Time for the postbag. We've had lots of more correspondence.

• 37:47Declan Donnelly?

  Shall we?

• 37:48Ant McPartlin?

  I see.

• 37:49Declan Donnelly?

  It's over there.

• 37:50Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 37:50Declan Donnelly?

  Are we gonna do the?

• 37:52Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, but we can't, we can't sing it.

• 37:53Declan Donnelly?

Can we do a David Brent?

• 37:57Ant McPartlin?

  It's time for the postbag.

• 38:20Ant McPartlin?

  Right, okay.

• 38:20Declan Donnelly?

  Oh, turn the telly off.

• 38:23Ant McPartlin?

That's what we don't get soon. Bring it in the postbag, please, help her.

• 38:28Declan Donnelly?

Right, here it is. We've got, um.

• 38:31Ant McPartlin?

I have to say, I am loving the, how much you're loving the podcast. It's true.

• 38:35Declan Donnelly?

  Who, me?

• 38:36Ant McPartlin?

Not you. You lot out there. Like we said, we're a nervous start. Now, I know we've talked about this before, but it's really taken off now. We're getting stopped a lot on the street by people talking to us about the content and what we're talking about.

• 38:49Declan Donnelly?

Being shut down an awful lot.

• 38:51Ant McPartlin?

  Shut down?

• 38:52Declan Donnelly?

Where people are just like, I'm asking more questions. They're like, yeah, yeah, I've got places to be. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 38:56Ant McPartlin?

Sorry, mate, I'm late. Right, I've got one from Adam. Hey, Ant and Dec, with so many celebrities on Chums, who's your favourite or not so favourite celebrity appearance? And do you have any funny stories from Chums? Love Chubs. I presume that's meant to say Chums. SMTV and.

• 39:16Ant McPartlin?

Loved Chubs. Is that something you did separately? Chubs?

• 39:18Declan Donnelly?

  I don't know.

• 39:19Ant McPartlin?

  He means Chums. Respect, guys.

• 39:22Declan Donnelly?

Can I just take you very back to the very, very, very beginning?

• 39:25Ant McPartlin?

  Of what? Time?

• 39:26Declan Donnelly?

  Chums. Of Chums.

• 39:29Ant McPartlin?

  Yes.

• 39:29Declan Donnelly?

Do you remember the first couple of celebs we had on there was Tom Jones?

• 39:32Ant McPartlin?

  Yes.

• 39:33Declan Donnelly?

  He came on.

• 39:34Ant McPartlin?

  Sting?

• 39:35Declan Donnelly?

  And Sting.

• 39:36Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 39:36Declan Donnelly?

And they kind of set the bar because they were like huge pop stars, global pop stars.

• 39:40Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 39:41Declan Donnelly?

And they came on and did Chubs, right? It's like the very beginning. So whenever we had a guest, we'd go like, will you do Chums? Like, what's that? We're like, it's the, it's the sketch bit that we do. Tom Jones has done it and Sting. They go, oh, okay, I'll do it.

• 39:54Ant McPartlin?

  They couldn't say no.

• 39:55Declan Donnelly?

So they set the bar so high.

• 39:56Ant McPartlin?

We did have one actress who, I won't mention her name, but she was a Hollywood star. And she turned up and she was due to be in Chums and she was not.

• 40:08Declan Donnelly?

She was not out to the night before.

• 40:09Ant McPartlin?

She wasn't all there. Let's face it. She'd been out in London on a Friday night and turned up, still act like it was a Friday night on a Saturday morning. And we had to do the rehearsals and we were always rehearsing on a Friday without the celebrity. And then we do a quick rehearsal Saturday before the show started. So the celeb was up to speed before the show went out live. And it was just awful.

• 40:30Declan Donnelly?

There was no way we could have.

• 40:33Ant McPartlin?

We can't do this. We can't do this live. This could be the end of Chums and it could be really bad for us. So thankfully, watching the show that week, just as a spectator.

• 40:45Declan Donnelly?

  With her daughters.

• 40:46Ant McPartlin?

With her daughters, was Carol Vorderman. So we said to this actress, stay in your dressing room. We'll call you when, when, when you're due to come down. We never called her. We just left her in the dressing room.

• 40:56Declan Donnelly?

And we made sure the person who was looking after her turned the TV over and put on BBC One.

• 41:01Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah.

• 41:02Declan Donnelly?

So she was watching Live and Kickin'.

• 41:03Ant McPartlin?

Yeah, she was watching Zoe Ball and Jamie Thigston.

• 41:05Declan Donnelly?

So she didn't see the sketch, which was supposed to be featuring her.

• 41:09Ant McPartlin?

But featuring Carol Vorderman. So Carol Vorderman literally had no rehearsals. She brought herself up to speed when we were doing other things. And the first time we did it with Carol was live and it was brilliant. She was absolutely fantastic.

• 41:22Declan Donnelly?

Then we just all left. As far as we know, the actress is still in the dressing room.

• 41:26Ant McPartlin?

She's still there. So there you go. Do you like that, Adam? Do you like that kind of Chubs story?

• 41:33Declan Donnelly?

  Chubs backstory.

• 41:33Ant McPartlin?

Any more Chubs stuff? Get in touch.

• 41:37Speaker 02

You did have some huge people on Chums though.

• 41:40Ant McPartlin?

We did have some good stars, yeah, really good. We loved it.

• 41:44Declan Donnelly?

  So fun. Really good.

• 41:46Ant McPartlin?

  Come on.

• 41:47Declan Donnelly?

  Dear Ant.

• 41:47Ant McPartlin?

  Uh huh.

• 41:48Declan Donnelly?

  This is from Lois.

• 41:49Ant McPartlin?

  Hi Lois.

• 41:49Declan Donnelly?

I could tell how upset you were for your name to be demoted to a middle name a couple of episodes ago.

• 41:54Ant McPartlin?

  Yes.

• 41:54Declan Donnelly?

I am not currently expecting a human child, but we did have a male lamb born on our farm last week.

• 41:59Ant McPartlin?

  Oh.

• 42:00Declan Donnelly?

So just for you, we are going to name him Ant.

• 42:03Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, is that him?

• 42:04Declan Donnelly?

He is handsome. Please see picture attached.

• 42:06Ant McPartlin?

  He is handsome.

• 42:08Declan Donnelly?

  With love from Portugal.

• 42:09Ant McPartlin?

  Oh, that is wonderful.

• 42:13Speaker 02

  Isn't he lovely?

• 42:13Ant McPartlin?

Hello, lambie Ant. Hello, lambie Ant from Human Ant. Hello, Bibi. Hello, Bibi. Hello, Bibi. He is gorgeous.

• 42:21Speaker 02

  He's lovely, isn't he?

• 42:22Ant McPartlin?

He's like a brown colour with little flecks of white in there. I presume that they go whiter as they get older. What a gorgeous little lamb.

• 42:30Speaker 02

  Baby Tony.

• 42:30Ant McPartlin?

Baby. It's not Baby Tony, Fiona. God, I hate her. That is great. Thank you so much. And that has really made things better since I was demoted to a middle name. I am now a full-on, full-name lamb name. Next letter?

• 42:43Declan Donnelly?

  Yes.

• 42:44Ant McPartlin?

Hey, guys. Back when I was 15, 29 years ago.

• 42:49Declan Donnelly?

  So he's now 44.

• 42:50Ant McPartlin?

Ugh. I won a competition on The Big Breakfast, which was hosted that week by yourselves and Melanie Sykes.

• 42:56Declan Donnelly?

  Wow.

• 42:57Ant McPartlin?

That's right. We did host it with Melanie Sykes. I won a set of GCSE revision guides and a signed photo of you both, in brackets, and Melanie. The books arrived two weeks after I did my exams.

• 43:13Declan Donnelly?

  Eh, eh.

• 43:16Declan Donnelly?

Eh, what a terrible prize to win.

• 43:20Declan Donnelly?

I bet you don't even deserve it.

• 43:32Ant McPartlin?

Good God. Good God. Oh my God, I'm so sorry, Mike. He says, respect, guys.

• 43:42Speaker 02

It's on the end of the story.

• 43:42Ant McPartlin?

Oh no, he passed his exams. He passed. Luckily, luckily, I managed to pass my exams. Respect, guys.

• 43:51Ant McPartlin?

It's a terrible prize, terrible. And they thought that prize would be delivered late. It's even worse.

• 43:59Declan Donnelly?

We had fun times doing the big breakfast.

• 44:00Ant McPartlin?

Oh, we had really good times doing the big breakfast.

• 44:02Declan Donnelly?

Apart from the ones, we said yes, for some reason, to host it in the Easter holidays. Do you remember that?

• 44:08Ant McPartlin?

  The bigger breakfast.

• 44:09Declan Donnelly?

The bigger breakfast. And it went on from seven in the morning until half past 12 in the afternoon. When it passed nine o'clock, they would do acquired materials. So it would be like Saved by the Bell or all those kind of American teen stuff. So we'd just have 25 minutes where I would just sit there going, I'm so tired. I'm so tired. And then we'd wake up and do a link and then go, I'm so tired.

• 44:28Ant McPartlin?

Wasn't that a great episode, Saved by the Bell, joining us after the break? Oh, my God.

• 44:32Declan Donnelly?

And then at the very end of the show, we would do a game in the garden out of the big breakfast, which was Easter bungee, where everybody was tied to bungee ropes and they had to run in like grab, grab eggs and it was callers on the line.

• 44:44Ant McPartlin?

There was a tennis game that we played once.

• 44:47Declan Donnelly?

And the callers on the line would go, how many eggs do you think they're gonna grab in 30 seconds? You go, I think they're gonna get six. And you go, okay, on line two, how many do you think? So in the garden, we're doing this and we're knackered. We're absolutely exhausted. We've been on air since seven in the morning. And they go, the bungee's still running and the bungee is bringing them back. And it's chaos in the garden. And somebody runs out of the French doors and they go, guys, stop, stop, stop the game.

• 45:10Ant McPartlin?

And we're like, come on, we're live on air here. Who's that? This is very childlike and zany.

• 45:16Declan Donnelly?

We're not on air. We're like, what? We're not on air. We haven't been on air for 20 minutes. Well, how come? And because the show went until 12.30, but whoever booked the satellite thought it was on till 12. And the satellite just ran out at 12 o'clock. They switched the satellite off. So we'd been broadcasting for 20 minutes doing the show with callers and this, and it wasn't going out on air.

• 45:41Ant McPartlin?

We're there, promising revision guides to everybody who won the game in the garden. And we weren't even on air. So we're like, stop, stop, stop, everybody in. So immediately like, oh God, I'm even more tired now. Yeah, that was, that was the big breakfast for you. But apart from that, it was fun to do.

• 46:00Declan Donnelly?

  It's chaos.

• 46:01Ant McPartlin?

And then they, they offered us the job to present it full time. And we said no, twice. Can you believe it? Bad, isn't it? Arrogance of you. No, but you know, it all worked out for the best because Johnny and Denise, Johnny Vaughan and Denise Van Outen, they went on to host it and were brilliant at it. And we then ended up on SMTV Live.

• 46:22Declan Donnelly?

That's all we've got time for today, but we are back on Monday with another rep. Please do join us for that.

• 46:28Ant McPartlin?

Good one. Is it a good one? Let's hope it's a good one.

• 46:30Declan Donnelly?

  I'm sure it will be.

• 46:30Ant McPartlin?

  Yeah, it will be.

• 46:31Declan Donnelly?

  Aren't they all?

• 46:31Ant McPartlin?

Thank you very much for watching, for listening.

• 46:34Declan Donnelly?

Please keep everything coming, hanging out at ballotbox.com.

• 46:37Ant McPartlin?

  Yes, just talked over me.

• 46:43Ant McPartlin?

That's it. See you next time.

• 46:45Declan Donnelly?

  Until then, respect, guys.

• 46:46Ant McPartlin?
