• 2:09Speaker 03

  Oh, Jesus Christ.

• 2:10H. Foley?

Two mistakes in that, two mistakes. I messed up, I messed up the title of the special and I almost flubbed it.

• 2:15Speaker 03

  Oh, I noticed.

• 2:16Speaker 01

  Damn it.

• 2:17Speaker 03

  I noticed.

• 2:18Speaker 01

  He's walking.

• 2:19Speaker 03

I literally, as you read that, I go, I gotta shut up about never doing anything. I was like, wow, fuck, that's pretty good.

• 2:25Speaker 01

You didn't lie and got them? Whoa.

• 2:27H. Foley?

• 2:34Speaker 03

  Oh, man.

• 2:35H. Foley?

Can I say this right now?

• 2:36Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 2:36H. Foley?

  You're looking very movie star.

• 2:38Speaker 03

  I, uh...

• 2:38H. Foley?

  You're cleaned up.

• 2:39Speaker 03

  I appreciate that.

• 2:40H. Foley?

  Little color, tight haircut.

• 2:41Speaker 03

I had a beard last night and in my hotel after a few drinks, I just shaved it.

• 2:47H. Foley?

  It looks great.

• 2:48Speaker 03

I just shaved it in the hotel. I was like, this is better. This is younger.

• 2:52H. Foley?

You look great. You look really good.

• 2:54Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 2:55H. Foley?

You're glowing. Glowing. You are glowing.

• 2:57Speaker 03

  Thanks.

• 2:57Speaker 01

Also, getting drunk in a hotel room and shaving your beard, dirtbag move. I respect it.

• 3:01Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 3:01Speaker 01

That's one of those things where you're like, I've gone too far. And I feel like every time I do that, I feel like I've murdered somebody and I'm like, there's no turning back.

• 3:07Speaker 03

  Fugitive.

• 3:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, I'm committed. Yeah.

• 3:08Speaker 03

I literally looked in the mirror. I was about to do it and I was like, is this stupid? And then I go, if I just do it quick, I have to do it. And I just quickly...

• 3:16H. Foley?

Yeah. The one thing I think the hotel's really good with, if you're drunk, is to stare at yourself in the mirror, in the bathroom mirror.

• 3:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:23H. Foley?

There's something about that light where you can really do a...

• 3:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:26H. Foley?

I'm like, do that thing. And like, really look at yourself.

• 3:28Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 3:28H. Foley?

  You know?

• 3:29Speaker 03

I love it when they put the, uh...

• 3:30Speaker 01

  You got problems, buddy.

• 3:31Speaker 03

I love when they put the full-length mirror on the back of the bathroom door so that when you shit and take a... You're just sitting shitting and you could just see...

• 3:38Speaker 01

  Right down the barrel.

• 3:39Speaker 03

Full everything. You're like, hi. Hello, me.

• 3:41H. Foley?

You're drunk and you turn around and think someone's coming in. You're like, ah!

• 3:46H. Foley?

Buddy, give us the backstory. Give us the origin story, Mr. Roy.

• 3:49Speaker 01

  South Carolina boy.

• 3:50Speaker 03

  South Carolina.

• 3:51H. Foley?

  Is that right?

• 3:51Speaker 03

Yeah, South Carolina. Greenville, South Carolina. Born in the eighties, child of the eighties. My mother passed away on my first birthday.

• 3:59H. Foley?

  Damn.

• 4:01Speaker 03

My aunt came in, moved into our house, kinda helped take care of me and my older sister.

• 4:05H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 4:06Speaker 03

The two of us, my aunt and my dad. My dad worked at the post office and around the age of, I... It's weird I don't know this. I think around six or seven. I was in second grade. He remarried. And then they had five kids. So I have five half siblings. So I'm one of seven.

• 4:22H. Foley?

  Damn.

• 4:23Speaker 03

Went to, I mean, you tell me how much to throw at you.

• 4:26H. Foley?

This is perfect. This is your kid.

• 4:28Speaker 03

I went to my private Catholic school from kindergarten to eighth grade, then went to a private Episcopalian high school.

• 4:35H. Foley?

  Hmm, switching it up, huh?

• 4:37Speaker 03

Switch it up. You know, let's see. Much better than...

• 4:39Speaker 01

See how the other side looks.

• 4:40Speaker 03

Yeah, well, yeah. Let's see what these sinners are gonna be doing. Then, uh, uh.

• 4:45H. Foley?

You're throwing holy water on everybody in my way.

• 4:47Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:47H. Foley?

  A bunch of heathens.

• 4:48Speaker 03

Failed the 10th grade, uh, English by one point. Uh, since it was a private school, you couldn't just like go to summer school. You had to go to a boarding school for the summer to get a credit that they thought was equivalent to their education. My dad was like, you're not doing that. So I had to repeat the grade, just that one class, but made me repeat the 10th grade at the school that wasn't like a massive school. So everybody knew. Uh, like, one of the things in my head that I remember so specifically was the first day, they had the different assemblies. So they were like, seniors are meeting here, juniors. And so as I'm walking up with the sophomores, almost all of them are like, oh no, Roy, juniors are in the theater. And I had to like chew everybody. It was one point, it was one point. No, I'm, I'm with you guys and everybody.

• 5:33H. Foley?

You got to graduate a year later.

• 5:34Speaker 03

  I graduated a year later.

• 5:36H. Foley?

  That was my dream.

• 5:37Speaker 03

But a, but after that, I. As a guy who peaked in high school, that's the fucking dream.

• 5:41H. Foley?

  Keep me here.

• 5:42Speaker 03

  You'd still be there.

• 5:43H. Foley?

Ben Affleck from Daisy Confused. You got all the sophomore chicks again.

• 5:47Speaker 03

That's right. Yeah, yeah. A really silver linings kind of guy, you know? But I went from that school to a, a public school after that. And, uh, they, they diagnosed me ADHD, got on some Ritalin, fucked with my stomach. Then they switched me to Adderall, fucking high honors student immediately. Really? Instantly was getting my homework done, like couldn't stop working. And, uh, went off to college. I played soccer my whole life, so I played soccer in college.

• 6:14H. Foley?

  Scholarship?

• 6:15Speaker 03

Not a scholarship. I did end up getting a little bit of money after I was there. I went to the University of Central Florida for one semester, played there, realized that I had so many siblings and this out of state tuition was going to mean they'd never go to college. So I went back to in-state, uh, played D2 and, uh, basically was on that team for three years. Kind of got a little bit of money. University of South Carolina Spartanburg. It's now called Upstate.

• 6:38H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 6:39Speaker 03

And now they're division one. Um. You got them there, buddy. That's what I say. That's a Scoville bump. Any alumni, I'm like, you're welcome.

• 6:47H. Foley?

My cousin just went off to the University of South Carolina.

• 6:49Speaker 03

Yeah, it's great. I love, great school. This is like a branch of that. Uh, graduated, got into working at like a news station doing camera for la- the news at like all the different fucking hours the local news comes on and then uh... Like in studio or you're the guy like jumping out of the van? In studio and then on Friday nights, they would team up people to try to go as, get as many clips of high school football as you could. Cause Friday 11pm, all they did was show highlights of the football game, uh, games. And uh, then I tried stand up somewhere in there after hearing a David Cross album and then I moved to DC to fucking dive into doing this back in 2004.

• 7:24H. Foley?

  It was very succinct.

• 7:25Speaker 03

I could, there's probably more in there. This guy's a broadcaster.

• 7:28H. Foley?

  We're gonna go back.

• 7:29Speaker 03

Yeah, we'll, we'll, we'll unpeel it for sure.

• 7:31H. Foley?

Yeah, we're gonna peel it for sure.

• 7:32Speaker 03

  Huh.

• 7:32H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 7:33Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 7:33H. Foley?

Alright, so your, your mom passes away, your aunt moves in. What's the house that you guys are in at that time?

• 7:39Speaker 03

We are in uh, uh, uh, two, three bedroom.

• 7:45H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 7:45Speaker 03

Three bedroom, uh, house that's probably, I don't know, I bet my dad bought it for a hundred and fifty thousand in the seventies, late seventies. Um, and it's still, it's got that look. It's got like, it's got that vibe, yeah. Um, and it's one of those houses where it's like, um, you know, in, in the neighborhood where the houses don't all look the same, but you're like, all of these houses cost the exact same amount of money. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Yeah. I gotcha.

• 8:12H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 8:12Speaker 03

  Alright.

• 8:13H. Foley?

And did you guys stay in that house when the, when the stepmom came in?

• 8:16Speaker 03

That house is still the house. That's still the house. That's still the house and it is, it's falling apart. It's like falling apart. Yeah, yeah. All of those kids through that house. And I mean, then they decided, oh, we should like try to put some bedrooms in like the basement. We should make it a finished basement. And we sorta did that, had a guy that I don't, well... Sorta is not great. Sorta, you know, like you get the contractor and like, I don't know that he knows how to connect these two pieces of wood. But it did turn into kinda two more bedrooms, which was a, my older sister and I got to like be down there. That was the dream as a kid. You're a little remote, it's like your own apartment. Yeah.

• 8:53Speaker 01

  You mean?

• 8:53Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:53H. Foley?

And you said they had five kids?

• 8:55Speaker 03

Five kids, so there's seven of us total.

• 8:57H. Foley?

So how many kids are in the house when you're like, let's say in high school, since you guys were older?

• 9:02Speaker 03

So I think high school was maybe five, five of us and then towards the end of it, six. I mean, my youngest brother, the youngest of everybody, was the seventh kid, was born, uh, right before I went off to college. There's a picture of me like, holding him in my dorm, like it's my kid.

• 9:18H. Foley?

  Damn.

• 9:19Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:20Speaker 01

I have something, I have a sixteen year old brother, a brother who's sixteen years younger than me.

• 9:23H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 9:24Speaker 01

  That's a drastic change.

• 9:25H. Foley?

Yeah. What was the grocery store you guys went to growing up?

• 9:28Speaker 03

I think it was Bi-Lo, in that area. Do you know Bi-Lo?

• 9:30Speaker 01

  I don't know that.

• 9:31Speaker 03

  Bi-Lo, B-I-d-L-O.

• 9:34H. Foley?

  Bi-Lo, Bi-Lo so high?

• 9:35Speaker 03

  Bi-Lo, yeah.

• 9:36Speaker 01

  B-I-d-L-O.

• 9:37Speaker 03

There was that, there was, I don't think we went to Piggly Wiggly, but there was Piggly Wiggly.

• 9:42H. Foley?

Why wouldn't you go to Piggly Wiggly?

• 9:43Speaker 03

  I think we, I don't know.

• 9:45Speaker 01

  Looks pretty nice.

• 9:46H. Foley?

  Did your dad do well?

• 9:47Speaker 03

No, I mean, this is post office.

• 9:49H. Foley?

Right. And what's your stepmom do?

• 9:51Speaker 03

Nothing. So, this is, uh, private school education, so the reason-

• 9:55H. Foley?

How do you swing on this?

• 9:56Speaker 03

So, the reason that even happened is because my mother, before she passed away, one of her like, dying requests to my dad, what, she had cancer, was, "I want Natalie and Roy to get the best education you can get." So he was like, locked in to be like, "Private school, I'm gonna make it happen." And he also had gone to a, a private school as a kid, so, he, I, I, I actually don't really know how he pulled it off, but this man refereed basketball games on the side, high school, church league, uh, he, and then he was working non-stop. He would take every overtime shift, all the time, you know, all the times you kind of complain as like, a shitty kid. Then you become an adult and you look back and you're like, "Oh, fuck."

• 10:34Speaker 01

This guy was, this guy did everything he possibly could.

• 10:36Speaker 03

He wasn't perfect, but fuck, I could have, I could have probably had a little more grace.

• 10:40Speaker 01

Uh-huh, for sure, dude. Huh, okay.

• 10:44Speaker 03

Alright, and you played soccer with any pets growing up? No, we always wanted a dog. My dad was allergic. Uh, my dad had really bad asthma shit like as a kid. That was like a big part of his youth and my grandmother taking care of him.

• 10:57H. Foley?

No fish tanks, anything like that, hermit crabs?

• 10:59Speaker 03

No, we always did the goldfish you win at the fucking fall festival that died a week later. We had that non-stop. There was one dog we had that my aunt kept, uh, that didn't really stay at our house that I kinda grown up, I was like, oh, that was kind of like the dog. And I remember that in fifth grade, I went off to a basketball camp. It was the first, it might be the first and only time I went to like a sleepaway camp. And it was to do basketball at Furman University. And when I came back, I was like, where's Ralph? He was like in our backyard before I left and they were like, oh, your dad got rid of him. And I mean, this dog was like, it isn't like, oh, we just got rid of the dog. It's like the dog that has been a part of our lives for so long and not like, hey, we're gonna get rid of the dog.

• 11:44Speaker 03

There was no conversation on it. Psychologically, you should say goodbye. Instead, it was like, oh yeah, we got rid of the dog. What's the big deal? It's like they came and picked up the trash or something. It literally was bizarre. Yeah.

• 11:56Speaker 03

I think about that all the time. I'm like, never do that. Yeah, that is, as long as you don't do that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't be that guy. Don't be that guy. That's wild. I will give you that.

• 12:05H. Foley?

Okay, what were the vacations like as a kid? Did you guys get away anywhere? Did you do anything?

• 12:09Speaker 03

It was one week at Myrtle Beach all the time. My dad loved Myrtle Beach. So we always went to Myrtle Beach. And as a kid, I fucking, you know, you, you, you know what you know. And so you kind of fucking love it. Like, you know, when we went to the beach, we always knew one night, we would go to the pavilion, which was like, you know, the small little like amusement park thing. And then one night we'd do this and that. And like, I kind of loved it. And then like, you kind of get older and you look back and you're like, fucking, this place is kind of shitty. But I didn't see it before. But then you become like even further into an adult and you're like, Oh, but it was.

• 12:43Speaker 01

  You liked it.

• 12:44Speaker 03

  It did do it.

• 12:45Speaker 01

  Great, yeah.

• 12:45Speaker 03

And you're like, and we were all like in just, you know, in the tiniest fucking, you know, you rent a condo or something for a week that's beachfront and you, you put everybody into like a one bedroom.

• 12:55Speaker 01

Thirty-five people in a one bedroom.

• 12:56Speaker 03

Care mattress, fold-out bed in the living room.

• 12:58H. Foley?

Yeah, he's falling right in line here.

• 13:00Speaker 01

Yeah, this kid's stacking up. Welcome to the show.

• 13:03Speaker 03

How about the family car growing up? Family car, at one point, I can remember a, uh, station wagon, like the Taurus station wagon. And like, they thought, I think they thought this looked sleek and...

• 13:17Speaker 01

They bubbled it out at one point. They really rounded the edges. It was like spaceship kind of.

• 13:21Speaker 03

Little insect spaceship kind of vibe to it. And I remember, uh, very many, many minivans. I mean, we must've had four or five that we like cycled through, something like that. We had the old-school fucking caravan minivan with like the wood panel down the side.

• 13:37Speaker 01

  Yeah, the woodies.

• 13:38H. Foley?

  Yeah. This crazy kid's trash.

• 13:42Speaker 01

And what, speaking of, what was your first car? Your first personal car?

• 13:45Speaker 03

Um, so, this is interesting, because that, that school that we went to, the Episcopalian one, I mean, this was like money. And so, we got to go there, because I think you maybe asked this, we, we were able to pull this off because I think they had a program that was like, hey, there are certain slots we offer to people that are of a lower income.

• 14:04Speaker 01

If you have a wood panel van, you can come to the school.

• 14:07Speaker 03

  Sight unseen, you're in.

• 14:08Speaker 01

If you got that insect Taurus, come on by. Reforming Catholics.

• 14:11Speaker 03

I, I went to a school where, you know, people drove all kinds of cars, but this, it was also the kind of school where some kids on their sixteenth birthday rolled up in a fucking brand-new Range Rover. So, there was that element of like money. But my sister and I drove, uh, our grandfather gave us a nineteen eighty-one Buick Les Sabre. And I mean, metal, like a tank, a fucking tank. And I, I mean, a boat. And I, I remember being, there was something I really, and maybe you do this when you don't have money, I like took so much pride in the fact that we had a shitty car. My dad had a shit, I think my dad kind of loved shitty cars. He had like this old fucking toy, two-door Toyota Corolla, Toyota Corolla, like just

• 14:53Speaker 03

shit brown and so tiny, when you drove it, it felt legitimately like one step above a go-kart, but like right before a car.

• 15:01Speaker 01

  Go around, go around.

• 15:02Speaker 03

Yeah, but I will say it was super fun to drive. Yeah. All right, that's pretty good, man. I like that Les Sabre. They were head. I got it like a car hit me and it destroyed. The car hit me, it was their fault, destroyed their car, kinda fucked up one of my lights.

• 15:19Speaker 03

Just pure metal ripping into tinfoil.

• 15:22H. Foley?

  That's awesome.

• 15:23Speaker 03

  That's great.

• 15:23H. Foley?

What was the first job growing up?

• 15:26Speaker 03

Um, I feel like the first, other than like trying to make a little money doing like yard work here and there, if anybody was paying was, uh, uh, I think at a restaurant in Panama City Beach. My aunt were, lived in Panama City Beach. She was a basketball coach at a community college there. So good that as of last year, she was inducted into the women's basketball hall.

• 15:48H. Foley?

  Wow, alright.

• 15:50Speaker 03

Um, and so I went and stayed with her.

• 15:52H. Foley?

  In the summer.

• 15:53Speaker 03

In the summer and I worked as a busboy at this place called Crazy Marlins.

• 15:58H. Foley?

  That's pretty sweet.

• 15:59Speaker 03

Right on the water. I didn't realize how actua- that fucking awesome that really was like. I did enjoy the fact that I was like, oh, I got a job, I'm making a little money. My grandparents helped me open like a savings account to put the money into, but also I was hanging out with like college kids.

• 16:13H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 16:13Speaker 03

Who were just making money and like just kinda being near them, which felt, it kinda felt bizarre.

• 16:18H. Foley?

Where's Panama City in relation to Myrtle Beach?

• 16:20Speaker 03

Um, so far away. It's in Florida. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 16:23H. Foley?

  Oh, okay.

• 16:24Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. But like, so I, so my grandparents moved from Greenville to Niceville, Florida, and my aunt lived in Panama City Beach, Florida.

• 16:32H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

So our, our vacations went from, hey, we're either going to Myrtle Beach or we're going down there to see family in Florida.

• 16:38H. Foley?

So the start of the summer, how many summers did you get to do this? Just one or two?

• 16:42Speaker 03

To go and do that job? I think I did it once.

• 16:44H. Foley?

  And that was what?

• 16:45Speaker 03

  I stayed like local for.

• 16:47H. Foley?

And you were like, what, 16?

• 16:48Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 16:49H. Foley?

Damn, you got to go down to.

• 16:50Speaker 03

  Fifteen or sixteen.

• 16:50H. Foley?

  That's pretty sweet.

• 16:51Speaker 03

I loved it. Now granted, I like got there and worked for like a month and a half. And you know a restaurant was like, no, thanks, that's awesome that you're working for a month and a half. Um, but I also didn't understand that. So I was like, yeah, cool. This is great. It was, uh, it was fun. I mean, it was literally just, you know, I had nothing wrong with washing dishes, bussing tables. Like it was fucking easy.

• 17:12H. Foley?

Hmm, I thought it was like right down from Myrtle Beach or something like that. I don't know, they shipped you down to Florida for the summer. That's pretty sweet.

• 17:17Speaker 03

Vibe wise, it is right down the street from Myrtle Beach.

• 17:21Speaker 01

Just bang a left at the Margaritaville.

• 17:23Speaker 03

  They are fraternal twins.

• 17:25H. Foley?

I like how you both looked at me like I was an idiot when I said that. And then when there was that moment.

• 17:28Speaker 01

You asked it with such confidence that I thought, I was like, maybe I don't know where Panama is. Maybe I don't know.

• 17:33H. Foley?

Then in the moment, I was like, wait, is he talking about actual Panama? What is Florida?

• 17:39H. Foley?

Can't be going talking about Mando.

• 17:40Speaker 01

Ooh, shout out to that Mando, dog.

• 17:42H. Foley?

Of course, I'm talking about the all-over body deodorant.

• 17:45Speaker 01

  Which you needed.

• 17:46H. Foley?

Isn't it crazy, people just doing the pit for all this time?

• 17:50Speaker 01

That's one of those like antiquated things where you look, we're gonna look back in 50 years and be like.

• 17:53H. Foley?

What the hell are we doing?

• 17:54Speaker 01

Do the whole body, my whole body swag.

• 17:56H. Foley?

  I got nooks and crannies.

• 17:58Speaker 01

  Uh huh.

• 17:58H. Foley?

And behind the ears getting a little funk.

• 18:01Speaker 01

  Like a muffin jar.

• 18:01H. Foley?

I don't know what it is, dude. I gotta get in the crevices, make sure everything's nice. And with Mando, you can do that and smell great. You know what they got over there? They got them body wipes that are.

  What's that?

• 19:30H. Foley?

That I feel like hasn't been in style, not in style, but doesn't get enough love like it did a few years ago and it's coming back really strong?

• 19:38Speaker 01

  Cashmere. A little cashmere.

• 19:39H. Foley?

  Cashmere.

• 19:40Speaker 01

  Uh-huh.

  They're over at Quince.

• 19:55H. Foley?

  $300?

• 19:55Speaker 01

  60 bucks.

• 19:56H. Foley?

  60?

• 19:57Speaker 01

  Started at 60.

• 19:57H. Foley?

  For Mongolian?

• 19:58Speaker 01

  Woo-hoo, baby.

• 20:00H. Foley?

  Let's go.

• 20:00Speaker 01

Uh, the denim is durable and fits just right. I gotta get eyes on that denim because I'm bad at picking denim. I gotta get my eyes over there on their denim.

• 20:07H. Foley?

You got your denim these days.

• 20:08Speaker 01

Real leather jackets that bring clean, classic edge without elevated price tag, baby. Uh, they were nice enough to send us a little bit of a gift card. Beep, boop, pop, boop, jumped in there, got myself some nice fall.

• 20:19H. Foley?

  You did?

• 20:20Speaker 01

  I'd be probably?

• 20:20H. Foley?

  Oh, yeah, that's right.

• 20:21Speaker 01

I'm gonna be rolling them out. Once, once the weather gets a little more crisp, I'm gonna come in here, you're gonna go, "Oh, Kippee, look at you."

• 20:27H. Foley?

I'm gonna check out the socks and undergarments.

• 20:29Speaker 01

But they got 365. That's Q-U-I-N-C-E.com/garbage. Free shipping, 365-day returns. Quince.com/garbage. Do it.

• 20:53H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 20:54Speaker 01

Okay. What was the first concert you went to?

• 20:57Speaker 03

Uh, New Kids on the Block.

• 20:58Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 20:59Speaker 03

  Um...

• 21:00H. Foley?

  Where at?

• 21:00Speaker 03

I wanna say 5th grade, but that might be, that might be older than that. It might have been like 11 years old. Uh, at Furman University in their, uh, football stadium.

• 21:10H. Foley?

Who'd you go there with? Did you get dropped off by your dad?

• 21:13Speaker 03

No, so my mother who passed away, her oldest sister and her two kids, me and my sister, and then from there I have, it's, it really gets spotty. There were like, I think some other... Extended cousins or something. All I can remember is that we went to that concert and I had never been to a concert. But I wanted to go because my sister got to go see Milli Vanilli. Damn. And I was like, why can't I go? And I didn't want to go. I was like, why can't I go? So when this came up, I was like, yeah, I'm going. Yeah, we're going. Um, and I remember we all stayed at my aunt's house after that, which is why I can remember that that's how it went, but I can't remember. The whole family that went.

• 21:48H. Foley?

  That's a pretty sweet experience.

• 21:49Speaker 03

But it was a pretty, it was like maybe eight, eight people.

• 21:52H. Foley?

  I hate that. That's alright.

• 21:53Speaker 03

New Kids, that's a good first concert. I, I don't mind it. Yeah.

• 21:56H. Foley?

When your stepmom got into the house, who, was she doing the cooking? Like you guys having dinner?

• 22:00Speaker 03

Yeah, I would not say that's the best cooking. We did a lot of takeout as a kid. We were the family where she would cook something, we would eat it. A lot of times it was beef stroganoff, uh, you know, hamburger helper.

• 22:14H. Foley?

  Oh, I loved it.

• 22:14Speaker 03

Which, the first time, you're like, oh, really?

• 22:16H. Foley?

  I loved it.

• 22:16Speaker 03

You get to a hundred, you're like, I can't fucking do this anymore. My dad, we would have dinner and my dad would then, you know, tell my stepmom, he's like, will you go get me Burger King? And so she would like go get Burger, and we were always like, why can't we fucking have Burger King? I'll do it number five. Yeah, yeah.

• 22:33H. Foley?

Wait, would he eat dinner with you guys?

• 22:35Speaker 03

So, so no, we would, I mean, so, sometimes, but like, our dinner was, we had a kitchen counter with a tiny TV. And we sat at the kitchen counter, and because there's always a baby, one of the spots, you know, was like the, the chair that kind of hooks on to it. The hook on high chair. Yeah, the hook on high chair. Uh, so it was always like two seats, that, another seat, and then on the other side of the counter was another seat that faced the TV. And my dad would grab a plate and like eat in the living room doing like his own thing. This guy's hiding. And literally, we honestly, we were, we would just always be like, why does he get to, we have, we had a dining room table this size. That would actually fit this large family.

• 23:11H. Foley?

  Never used it.

• 23:12Speaker 03

And never used it. And I gotta say, it's, uh, it has made me the person that's like, turn the fuck, turn everything off but good music. We're sitting here and chatting and like talk, it turned me into that person because we didn't do that growing up, you know? That's good.

• 23:25H. Foley?

That's pretty good, man. Go and get me Burger King.

• 23:27Speaker 03

That's a classy thing though, music now to enjoy, like background, like, uh, you know. I am, I'm like creating the scene where I'm like, ah, we used to sit and like, and I don't, I love it. I loved it then, like, sitting and like, fucking throwing on whatever the fuck we were watching as kids and like sitting there watching and fucking shoveling food in our face. And there's so many kids that if you wanted seconds, you were like, get back over, get seconds, come back.

• 23:49H. Foley?

Would you guys have milk with dinner?

• 23:51Speaker 03

  Sometimes.

• 23:51H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 23:52Speaker 03

Yeah. Which I, uh, I didn't know that was strange for a long.

• 23:56Speaker 03

It's not class. I didn't know it for a long time.

• 23:58H. Foley?

I didn't know it till I met him.

• 24:00Speaker 03

I used to also just drink milk with ice cream, like, not to, not a milkshake.

• 24:03Speaker 03

That's doubling down. I'll do milk two ways, please.

• 24:06Speaker 03

And I'm almost certain I'm lactose tolerant. Like, I think I've come to learn that. And even then, I'd be like, why does my, why do I have to shit all the time? What is this?

• 24:14H. Foley?

Were you guys allowed to eat in your room? Not meals, but like snacks?

• 24:17Speaker 03

Um, we, I don't remember ever doing that.

• 24:21H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 24:21Speaker 03

  Probably we could have.

• 24:22H. Foley?

Were there chores, that kind of stuff?

• 24:24Speaker 03

Yeah, so me and my sister, we would, on weekends, Saturday, we would like get all the sheets off the bed to wash them. We would dust the rooms, we would wash all the dishes, we would, uh, uh, vacuum the house and, uh, like, Windex and shit.

• 24:40H. Foley?

That's the, that's all the cleaning?

• 24:41Speaker 03

It's, it was all of the cleaning.

• 24:43H. Foley?

Did you, wait, you had to wash the sheets or just collect?

• 24:44Speaker 03

And I remember my older sister and I, you know, cause it's got a very like stepchild kind of like, you will clean the house. And we were like, oh, okay. My younger siblings, I don't, I don't think they were really forced into doing that. But I will say, as much as I was like, what the fuck is this? Like, I take care of my, like, house now. Like, I literally am like, no, no, fucking, let's clean it. Let's like, keep it clean. So, as much as I kinda wish maybe we did that less and we could hang out more on the weekends. And it wasn't like that was our whole lives, but it does make me like, reflect and go, I am kinda happy that I don't live like a piece of shit. Like, I clean up. Still good values in you. Yeah.

• 25:18H. Foley?

So you used to take the sheets off the bed, you'd bring them down and you'd wash them?

• 25:21Speaker 03

Really stuck on the sheets on the bed. I don't, I don't think we would wash them because I'm almost certain I didn't learn how to do laundry till like, college, so, yeah.

• 25:28H. Foley?

  Alright, that's not too bad.

• 25:29Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:29H. Foley?

Strip the sheets, that'd be good.

• 25:30Speaker 03

I mean, there was no pay. I didn't say that. No one paid us.

• 25:35Speaker 03

Just wanna make that clear, put that on the record. I just wanna make it clear, I wasn't like, putting money away.

• 25:38H. Foley?

Would there, would, would there ever be a night out where you guys went and had dinner together? And where would that be?

• 25:43Speaker 03

Um, there was one place called Capri's Italian, which I loved, but now that I've had actual Italian, you're like, oh, fuck, what the fuck was that? But I loved it, cause I loved the fact that our whole family, even like grandparents and everybody, would do like, birthdays and stuff there. That's great. Italian restaurants, I was old school, it was like fucking dark with your candles and like your old school like.

• 26:05Speaker 01

  The paper or whatever.

• 26:06Speaker 03

  Paper shit.

• 26:07H. Foley?

  Good bread on the table.

• 26:08Speaker 03

And it was like, I don't know, there was something about it, I think I have a.

• 26:10Speaker 01

  Very charming.

• 26:11Speaker 03

I have a nostalgia for it because there's so much family and community involved in it. But like Applebee's was kind of a big deal, Red Lobster.

• 26:18Speaker 01

  Good in the neighborhood, yeah.

• 26:19Speaker 03

Red Lobster, that was a big deal. I, I didn't, the idea of like a restaurant that isn't a chain. Was not something I was really aware of.

• 26:29Speaker 01

I didn't know chains were trashy.

• 26:30Speaker 03

For a while in my life. I also didn't know that people thought they were trashy. I also didn't know that people didn't think the food was good. Also, I had not really had other food to compare it to that.

• 26:38Speaker 01

I'm right, I'm right there with you, yeah.

• 26:41Speaker 03

So, before you know, it's almost like red pill, blue pill. Bill, before you know though, you are like, this is fucking great. Like even when I graduated college and had a job.

• 26:51H. Foley?

  Still great.

• 26:51Speaker 03

We would go, like at lunch, it was like, Applebee's, Chili's, like that whole run of, you know.

• 26:57Speaker 01

  They were great.

• 26:57Speaker 03

  Fucking restaurants.

• 26:58Speaker 01

  Casual dining establishment.

• 26:59H. Foley?

If you don't like a Friday.

• 26:59Speaker 03

  Now I hate them.

• 27:01Speaker 01

  I know.

• 27:02H. Foley?

If you don't like a Friday sampler, I don't know, I don't know who you are.

• 27:04Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 27:05Speaker 01

I remember people, like, it was just thinking in my head, it was like, the, the, the fact that there were so many, I was like, oh, they're killing it.

• 27:11Speaker 03

  Yeah, exactly.

• 27:12Speaker 01

You know what I mean? It was like Walmart, I'm like, I remember my buddy be like, oh, we go here, and I'm like, they don't even have commercials.

• 27:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 27:17Speaker 01

You know what I mean? Like, that place has to suck.

• 27:19Speaker 03

When a new restaurant would open, like, when like Buffalo Wild Wings first opened, that's why people were like, here we fucking go. A new place.

• 27:27H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 27:27Speaker 03

And you don't really know, you're like, no, this is what the world is, or the, the country is, it's just gonna be these popping up everywhere.

• 27:33Speaker 01

All over. You do see that when you travel for comedy, you're like, oh, these shopping centers are all just.

• 27:37Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 27:38Speaker 01

  All over, they're the same.

• 27:39Speaker 03

Well, there was going to Myrtle Beach every summer, there was, and this kind of goes against the fact that we're at a beach where you would get seafood. But we would go to this one restaurant, one night of the week, that was like Lee's Inlet. And that was, like, we always treated it so special, and I also felt that way because I knew this was not a chain. Like, it was only here. And then we'd also go to Damon's, do you remember Damon's, like, ribs?

• 28:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:04H. Foley?

  No.

• 28:04Speaker 03

There was a Damon's, my dad loved the ribs, and because of his affinity for it, we always treated it like, oh, this is, this is Damon's. Like, you gotta, this is a big deal.

• 28:12H. Foley?

  Serious business.

• 28:13Speaker 03

And that would be one of the other night. That would be the other like night of it.

• 28:15Speaker 01

  Mouth watering ribs.

• 28:17Speaker 03

  There you go.

• 28:18Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 28:18Speaker 03

And back then, I thought, this is ribs, this is what you do, this is how you live it.

• 28:22Speaker 01

  That's pretty good.

• 28:23Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:24Speaker 01

Gotta get eyes on that place.

• 28:25H. Foley?

  Not too shabby here.

• 28:26Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 28:27Speaker 01

Uh, growing up, it could have been like a local celebrity or anybody. Who was the newscaster? Who was the most fam- famous person you met?

• 28:34Speaker 03

Um, yeah, I, probably the newscasters, maybe, because I did work at the news- Which I gotta say was like, kinda bizarre. It is weird, even now, news broadcasters locally have such a local celebrity. Cause you see them all the time. It's weird to see them in person.

• 28:48Speaker 01

They're giving you the news, yeah.

• 28:49Speaker 03

Yes, it's weird to see them in person.

• 28:50H. Foley?

Who was your guy? Who was the head anchor down there?

• 28:52Speaker 03

Uh, Ta- when I, when I was working, I think it was Tom Crabtree.

• 28:56H. Foley?

  This is Tom Crabtree.

• 28:58Speaker 03

And also my friend, who I still keep in touch with, Amy Wood, was, uh, one of the, the broadcasters, one of the anchors. And, uh, Pete Yanity, who later became the voice of the Clemson Tigers. And while still working as, uh, the sports broadcaster, he was great. Like, I've, I've chatted with him. We've maybe fallen out of touch now, but he was a guy who, like, when I was moving on to do stand-up, he like, kind of had that look in his eye of like, I get it. Like, this is what you, you should go do this.

• 29:25Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 29:25H. Foley?

That's awesome. How was Crabtree to you? Was he nice?

• 29:27Speaker 03

I don't think, we never really-

• 29:29H. Foley?

What'd he call you? Kid and stuff like that?

• 29:31Speaker 03

Maybe. I do remember there was one time when they rebuilt the, uh, set. And it was such a big deal. And the director, at the end of the broadcast, wanted one of the cameras to back up. Because he thought it was cool for during credits to reveal-

• 29:45H. Foley?

  Sure.

• 29:46Speaker 03

It's a set. It's not a thing. And it, it did look good, but they always wanted someone to walk out to the broadcasters with a piece of paper.

• 29:53Speaker 01

  Be like, oh, this is-

• 29:53Speaker 03

To like, have notes so they could have a conversation. And I asked if I could do it. And they were like, great. Cause they, it didn't matter who did it. Just so that it looks like a producer.

• 30:01Speaker 01

You missed the credit, man. That was his first credit.

• 30:03Speaker 03

And I walked, I walked out there and I would write shit on a piece of paper to get them to fucking- And they would see it, and I've written like, fucking, "Nice job, dick shit." And they would have to look at it like, "Oh, right, yeah, good, good note." And then, uh, yeah, at some point, they were like, "Roy, you're not allowed to-" "You're not allowed to go out there anymore."

• 30:23H. Foley?

Get this punk out of here. Crab tree's losing it.

• 30:25Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:26H. Foley?

  Ah, that's funny.

• 30:27Speaker 01

  Uh.

• 30:28Speaker 03

But that was a good job. That was, that was fun.

• 30:29Speaker 01

  As a kid, uh, sorry.

• 30:30H. Foley?

No, no, I was gonna say, it's a good introduction to the show business right there.

• 30:33Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 30:34H. Foley?

  I like it.

• 30:34Speaker 01

As a kid, would you sneak snacks into a movie theater?

• 30:37Speaker 03

I would, yeah. Oh, we would for sure do that.

• 30:39Speaker 01

  As a family?

• 30:40Speaker 03

Like as a family. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 30:41Speaker 01

  Stop at the store, whatever.

• 30:41Speaker 03

And we didn't like overdo it, but I mean, even then, when you know, by comparison now, that feels like going to the movies for free. But even then, we were like, oh, it's fucking expensive.

• 30:50Speaker 01

  Yeah, of course.

• 30:50Speaker 03

  Like, snacks are expensive.

• 30:51H. Foley?

Sugar cereal as a kid, would you guys like to have it?

• 30:53Speaker 03

  So much.

• 30:54H. Foley?

  No shit?

• 30:54Speaker 03

We had, we had everything you can fucking think of.

• 30:56Speaker 01

  Shocked?

• 30:57H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 30:58Speaker 01

They were eating dinner at the kitchen counter on the TV.

• 31:00Speaker 03

My dad was getting fucking BK broilers on the side.

• 31:03Speaker 01

And eating by himself. Of course, of course they're doing sugar cereal.

• 31:08Speaker 03

Frosted flakes, we had Captain Crunch, there was always fruity Pebbles.

• 31:12Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 31:13Speaker 03

We were doing, I don't think we ever really got too deep into Cookie Crisp. It was, it was so funny.

• 31:18Speaker 01

We had a bad summer, wasn't it?

• 31:18Speaker 03

We would have all this shit and then there'd just be Grape Nuts. And you were like, who the fuck, who's putting in the request for Grape Nuts?

• 31:24H. Foley?

I like a Grape Nuts every once in a while.

• 31:26Speaker 01

  Kick rocks.

• 31:27H. Foley?

  Damn, that's awesome.

• 31:28Speaker 01

  Uh, what was the soda?

• 31:29Speaker 03

Toaster strudel, we had a lot of toaster strudel.

• 31:31H. Foley?

  You're a toaster strudel family?

• 31:32Speaker 03

  Toaster strudel, mass addiction.

• 31:33Speaker 01

  Over Pop Tarts.

• 31:35Speaker 03

We had both. We would have Pop Tarts too. Literally anything where the kids.

• 31:37H. Foley?

Damn, your dad was doing pretty good.

• 31:39Speaker 03

Anything where the kids could just make their own fucking thing.

• 31:42H. Foley?

  Damn.

• 31:42Speaker 01

  That's a good point.

• 31:43Speaker 03

Yeah. It was, it was not good. I mean, we, I was already ADHD, but we would all go to school like fucking fried.

• 31:49H. Foley?

  Tweaking on sugar.

• 31:49Speaker 03

  And then 10 a.m., you're crashing and you're like, I can't do shit.

• 31:53Speaker 01

Huh. What was the soda situation at that time?

• 31:56Speaker 03

  Soda.

• 31:57H. Foley?

  Soda.

• 31:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:58Speaker 03

  Lots of soda.

• 31:59H. Foley?

  What was it?

• 32:00Speaker 03

Uh, I was addicted to Dr. Pepper, so I always had that, but I feel like we always had Coke. Um.

• 32:06Speaker 01

Are you doing two liters cans?

• 32:07Speaker 03

Dr. Pepper Sprite, uh, two liters.

• 32:09Speaker 01

  Two liters.

• 32:10Speaker 03

But then we, but then we also did have, like, it's so funny to me, like, my dad was, like, very conscious of certain things in the sense that. We went to cans and I wondered why and my dad was like, because we're recycling. Like if you didn't recycle, my dad would go, literally, you would throw something away and my dad go, what are you doing? And you're like, what? And he goes, you can recycle that. And I look back and I go, I feel like he was a little ahead of the curve on like, kind of being like, because like an environmentalist is not his thing at all, but yet, when he realized what you could recycle, he just like, he was like, this is the best idea ever and everyone should be doing it. Smart guy. And so I think we kinda went from using, I mean, they still were using plastic, but it was like, hey, these cans, we can smoosh them up and it's a little easier, yeah.

• 32:55H. Foley?

Do you guys ever cross over into the three liter?

• 32:58Speaker 03

No. Three liter, heavy bike. I don't, I mean, maybe I might have been out of the house by then. Keep in mind, when I was out of the house, there was still so many years of kids in the house.

• 33:06H. Foley?

Yeah, little kids in the house, yeah, that's crazy.

• 33:09Speaker 03

Okay. Any, I mean, Sal, I gotta ask, any big mouth billy bass at the house? No. No, okay. We had one in college. I mean, you know you have it because it's a fucking, you're like, press the button. It's a fish that sings.

• 33:23Speaker 03

That was when the world was, was right and just. Buddy, that's it. When all you needed was that and you're like, is this not genius? And everyone agreed. No one was like, it's stupid. Everyone was like, it's great. You could show anybody in your least, it'd be like, you could show like the best comic in the world. And there you go, ow, it's singing. And then he'd come off the wall and look at you, it was great.

• 33:42H. Foley?

Any Chinese stars, nunchucks, anything like that as a kid?

• 33:45Speaker 03

No, no, I mean, I wanted all that stuff.

• 33:47H. Foley?

  Nothing?

• 33:47Speaker 03

I wanted all the ninja anything kinda thing.

• 33:50H. Foley?

Any karate classes as a kid?

• 33:52Speaker 03

No. I did, I played soccer, basketball, tennis. My dad was such a big tennis fan. Really? Volleyball. My dad would play anything. My dad loved sports. Softball, he would play. Yeah, we'd play, we'd do like volleyball on Sundays at the church sometimes. Really? Church gym. Very nice. Uh, how old were you when you got your passport? Oh, man, 24. Really? Because I, honestly, the thing I just told you about Canada, that's the first time I left the country. And that was 25, 26. It's funny to say that that's the first time I left the country and I went to Canada. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. First time I was an explorer. Yeah, yeah.

• 34:32H. Foley?

What was the first time you had Nutella? Do you remember that?

• 34:35Speaker 03

Probably early twenties, probably when I moved to DC and like

• 34:38Speaker 01

And became an international traveler and went to Canada.

• 34:41Speaker 03

And probably thought this was the wildest thing I'd ever like, what it, now what? Now what is hazelnut?

• 34:47Speaker 01

  I still don't know.

• 34:49H. Foley?

You telling me this ain't peanut butter?

• 34:51Speaker 03

Yeah, so it's not. Oh god, this is too good.

• 34:53H. Foley?

Were you a PB and J man as a kid?

• 34:55Speaker 03

  Sure, yeah, yeah.

• 34:56H. Foley?

  Yeah?

• 34:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 34:57H. Foley?

Well, you remember what your peanut butter was in the house?

• 34:59Speaker 03

  No, I

• 35:01H. Foley?

  Chunky, creamy?

• 35:02Speaker 03

I think we did both. I think it, I think this was around the ti- I mean, you have so many kids. I think this was around the time when Chunky kinda was getting started. I think, like, I don't really I think it was the early days of Chunky where like, hey, look at this.

• 35:15H. Foley?

You were on the bottom floor of Chunky?

• 35:17Speaker 03

I remember it not being Jif, cuz I always wanted Jif, cuz those commercials would play and I'd be like, look how good this fucking peanut butter looks. But I don't remember, it might have been, I, was there a Peter Pan?

• 35:28Speaker 01

  There was.

• 35:28Speaker 03

I think it might have been Peter Pan.

• 35:30Speaker 01

Which I feel is like a little lower budget, little, like a smidge, yeah, yeah, it's not, not complete.

• 35:35Speaker 03

But also you're like, how is it able to be called Peter Pan?

• 35:37H. Foley?

Yeah, they have it paying for it.

• 35:39Speaker 01

  Licensing.

• 35:41H. Foley?

What was the jelly? Was it grape or was it strawberry?

• 35:43Speaker 03

  Smucker's, uh, grape.

• 35:46H. Foley?

  Really? I think it's a strawberry family.

• 35:47Speaker 03

I think it's mostly grape, yeah.

• 35:49H. Foley?

Well, they got all the sugar cereal.

• 35:50Speaker 03

  Concord, Concord grape.

• 35:52H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 35:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:53Speaker 01

  An aristocrat.

• 35:53Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 35:54H. Foley?

  Of course.

• 35:55Speaker 03

Huh, alright. It's not all just shit. We had Concord grape jelly.

• 36:00H. Foley?

The butter, was it kept on the counter in the refrigerator as a kid?

• 36:03Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:03H. Foley?

  Okay, what about now?

• 36:04Speaker 03

I didn't even know people did that. I didn't know people left butter on the counter. Butter on the counter, we have both now, but like, the butter on the counter, you're like, you can just spread it, it's not fucking

• 36:12Speaker 01

  Makes so much more sense.

• 36:13Speaker 03

  It makes the most sense.

• 36:14Speaker 01

One kid we found out in eighth grade did it. We went over his house and we made fun of him.

• 36:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:18Speaker 01

  For like, for years.

• 36:20Speaker 03

And you're certain it's gonna be fucking green, you're like, how can it keep?

• 36:24H. Foley?

I think the childhood is sufficiently trashy, let's try to edge it a little bit into now. Do you remember what you did with the, the first big check you got in comedy? We all, first of all

• 36:34Speaker 01

And it couldn't even, it didn't even have to be huge, it was just like fifteen hundred bucks and you spent nine hundred on something, anything, any bad purchase.

• 36:40H. Foley?

What was the first big thing that you booked?

• 36:42Speaker 03

  Um...

• 36:44Speaker 03

In terms of like big pay, big booking was probably acting in like 2013. I mean, I did some commercials that paid, but like getting to do the show Ground Floor in 2013 was the first time I was like, here we fucking go. And I remember blowing a check. This is what we want to hear. Pretty much a full check to take me and my wife, girlfriend at the time, and our, like, some of our friends to Hawaii and got like a fucking MTV crib style house for like a week, which was the whole paycheck. And I remember- That's such a dirtbag move, but a good guy. Being there and being like, looking at my wife and being like, I don't know, that was,

• 37:29Speaker 03

I don't know if I should have fucking done that. Of course you should, plenty more checks coming. And my wife, uh, and I, and I got so lucky during that trip, I think is when I was texted that we were getting to do another season. And I was like, okay, we gotta get out of jail free. Let's never forget this. That's awesome. Never forget it. But, um, I'm pretty sure I went and bought some Diesel jeans when I got like- Good for you. I was like, I'm gonna go drop, and at the time it was like 150 bucks, which to me was absurd for jeans. A guy who wore 25 dollar jeans his whole life. But was like, I'm gonna go buy these. I like them and I'm gonna get them. And like, you know, splurged a little bit on clothing, but never,

• 38:13Speaker 03

to this day, I couldn't tell you if I had fashion, but I know then I definitely did not have like any fashion sense.

• 38:17Speaker 03

Diesel jeans hit the scene. They hit a bit. My Diesel's- Dane was wearing them. They were big. And so you were like, I'm gonna wear this. I'm gonna wear a hoodie. Yeah.

• 38:28Speaker 03

  Shout out to Diesel.

• 38:29H. Foley?

Man, Hawaii vacation for you and your friends, that's pretty good.

• 38:32Speaker 03

Yeah, it was- That's a great story. It, and that house was truly so, so great. There's so many things I wish I, I was so antsy all the time that I wish I could go back and do that again. But yeah, tell myself, hey, just fucking calm the fuck down and enjoy this. Because this industry and this job, you're just, as soon as you do something good, you're like, okay, great. Well, I gotta worry that I do another good thing. And so you never fucking enjoy. You never celebrate anything. You're just always too many steps ahead.

• 39:02H. Foley?

  Yeah, it sucks.

• 39:04Speaker 01

That hit both of us pretty hard in the moment.

• 39:06H. Foley?

  It's how we are.

• 39:07Speaker 01

It's like you were listening to the conversation before you got here.

• 39:10H. Foley?

  Funny guy, huh? Yikes.

• 39:12Speaker 01

Killing me. Bringing up old shit.

• 39:13H. Foley?

I never cried on the episodes before. We're crying? You're just sitting there drinking your water real slow? Yeah, playing that. Let me know when you two pussies are done. Let me know when you want to know more about my garbage life. Ah, that's alright. Kim, what about that Helix?

• 39:29Speaker 01

Shout out to Helix Gang, I slept in one last night.

• 39:31H. Foley?

• 39:41H. Foley?

Which means the homies are listening, they're all getting Helix. How many people are on Helixes out there?

• 39:45Speaker 01

  Probably a couple thousand.

• 39:47H. Foley?

  Let's go.

• 39:47Speaker 01

  Easily.

• 39:48H. Foley?

Do you sleep light, do you sleep heavy, do you sleep on your side, on your back? Are you a big guy, you a small guy, tall guy, skinny guy? And they will match you with the perfect mattress that you're ever gonna have.

• 40:07Speaker 01

Yes, I believe we got the Twilight series. Listen, if you've been watching the show for a while, you've seen me and Foley mature into somewhat stable adults from, uh, whatever.

• 40:18H. Foley?

  Worst than ever.

• 40:19Speaker 01

This was my first adult mattress.

• 40:22H. Foley?

  That'll give you.

• 40:23Speaker 01

That I wasn't given from like, you know, that Nana died in, hey, your cousin Charlie's moving, you get his mattress. This was the first mattress I bought that I was, oh my god, I've been sleeping wrong my whole life, I have to, it's the right way to do it.

Uh, what is the, what's the car now?

• 42:30Speaker 03

Uh, now I lease a Hyundai Ioniq 5.

• 42:36Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 42:36Speaker 03

My wife, it's great. Uh, great. It's, um, it's EV. It's electric. It's fucking.

• 42:42Speaker 01

  They're sleek looking. They're sleek.

• 42:43Speaker 03

I had a Tesla, uh, Model 3 and I absolutely loved it. It's probably, I, it's the first time I've bought a brand new car. It was, uh, in 2019, late 2019. Um, I told my wife, I was like, I've got the money. I, I'm gonna go online. I really want one of these fucking cars. And I went online, did the whole thing. Easiest car to buy.

• 43:05Speaker 01

  Yeah. It's like, it's like you're buying.

• 43:06Speaker 03

I, you had to put a hundred dollars down. You can pick out exactly the car. Two weeks later, they called me and they said they had it, which was a little bit ahead of schedule, but I think they were trying to get it in before 2020. The last day of 2019, literally New Year's Eve, I went and got the car. And, uh, drove it home, had it for five years, sold the car, um, to CarMax. Didn't get what I want. Shout out CarMax. Sold to CarMax and of all the test driving I did, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is kind of the closest to the funness of the Tesla. So I was like, oh, I kind of like this. And also, I really love that I'm now leasing it and it's so much cheaper. Yeah.

• 43:43H. Foley?

Right. Good for you. Three years, get a new one.

• 43:45Speaker 03

My wife has a Rivian that she leases. Whoa. And I'm not the biggest fan. Really?

• 43:52H. Foley?

Where are you guys hanging your head? You out in LA?

• 43:54Speaker 03

We're in Denver. We moved to Denver a year ago. Good for you.

• 43:56H. Foley?

  Look at you.

• 43:57Speaker 03

Loving it. Getting out of the rat race. Got out of it. Got out of it.

• 44:00H. Foley?

  You guys have kids?

• 44:01Speaker 03

We have one child, a 10-year-old daughter, and it's been great for all three of us. That's awesome. Yeah, that's great. I've wanted to move for a while, didn't know where to go.

• 44:09H. Foley?

  Hmm.

• 44:10Speaker 03

Denver kind of came to us and we have friends there.

• 44:12H. Foley?

Are you guys in the city or in the burbs?

• 44:13Speaker 03

We're in the burbs. It's the most suburban I've ever... We're renting right now. It's the most suburban I've ever lived in my life, and I thought I would hate it. But I think at 45, I'm like, I get it now. I get that people just want cars, like no cars and just quiet. A little bit of quiet. Fully understand exactly. When I think of a dog and a walk, not even a leash. I'm not worried about anyone. Yeah, it's great.

• 44:34H. Foley?

I dig it. All right, look at that.

• 44:36Speaker 03

  It's all right.

• 44:36H. Foley?

  Yeah. Shabby.

• 44:38Speaker 03

That's it. Pack the bags, we're going to Denver.

• 44:40H. Foley?

  Yeah, I like it.

• 44:41Speaker 03

  Good city.

• 44:42H. Foley?

Um, let's talk about the house now a little bit. Uh, you're renting.

• 44:45Speaker 03

  Renting.

• 44:46H. Foley?

Uh, let's go into the bedroom. How you got... You guys have a king-size bed?

• 44:48Speaker 03

  King-size bed.

• 44:49H. Foley?

  King-size bed.

• 44:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 44:50H. Foley?

  And how many?

• 44:51Speaker 03

This house is so much bigger than we need. This is a five-bedroom house. Let's go. For three of us. Let's go.

• 44:56H. Foley?

Always doing all right. I like to hear it.

• 44:59Speaker 03

Well, what's funny is like it's, uh, it's... You go and you rent that house and you go, oh, this is the same as a two-bedroom. Of course, yeah.

• 45:06H. Foley?

What is the plan with, uh, with renting? You guys?

• 45:08Speaker 03

So, we were there for a year and now we're kind of month to month, uh, and so we're looking to buy. Now, we're like, kind of just waiting to see if these interest rates shift at all, and if so, we kind of know a neighborhood. We want to like, try to get a spot in. It's not even that far from where we are.

• 45:23H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 45:24Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 45:26Speaker 03

How do you sleep? Do you sleep on your side and your back? Mostly side. Not well. On your side, not well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sleep apnea? I don't think so. I think I just, I don't fall into it. I think health, I don't think I do enough working out, which would be good for sleeping. Okay. And I think the nature of this job, I'm in my head, so as soon as I wake up with anything. Sucks. I almost start in on some kind of rant, you know, it's like. Yeah, I did it this morning. Can't turn it off to be like, oh, go write that down. And then I don't even write it down. I lose sleep and then I don't even write the thing down that maybe could have become a product. Okay. Yeah. Pillow between, are you holding the pillow? No. Pillow between your legs? No, I should for my hips, but I don't. Okay, got bad hips?

• 46:07Speaker 03

My wife does. No, but my wife is like, this is good for you. It like levels things out. And I'm like, I know, but I'm never gonna do it. TV in the bedroom? No. No TV? No. I, I'm not like a big TV guy. Like, we don't even have a TV in the living room. Really? We have like a TV thing downstairs, and then there's like a TV, because there's so many rooms. So many floors, guy. On the eighth floor. There might be one somewhere, I don't know. Um, we have it in like certain spots, but uh, for like streaming, but I, I just don't really watch anything. Are you a reader? Do you read? I am, as of this year, I started legit reading. I have never. Just learned. Before, it does honestly feel like that. Before January, I had maybe read 15 books in my entire life. Damn, that's a lot!

• 46:50Speaker 03

Some that I was like, oh, I kinda like these books, but I have now read since January, 28 books. Whoa, what? This year, I'm so addicted. Brainiac. Jezelnik recommends books at the end of every year. He's a crazy reader. Mm-hmm. And he always recommends books, and I would go buy some of those books as gifts for people at the holidays. And then for whatever reason, this year, I was like, why don't I fucking buy one and read it? Bought the book Martyr, fucking loved it. And I was like, oh my God, I'm like actually paying attention. I'm not drifting away. My ADHD isn't kicking in. I understand this writing. I really love it. I think I've matured into being able to do it. The moment I finished it, I just went and bought another one and started reading it. And it's just been the whole year. There's more days? Yeah. Do you still take ADHD medication? Can I ask you that?

• 47:30Speaker 03

No, no, I stopped in, um, I stopped before college, because it was making me, this wasn't a conversation I had with people in high school, but it was making me wildly depressed. I would finish my work so fast and sit in my room, no music, nothing, quiet, if you guys aren't even here. I would sit like this and my brain. Just like trying to sleep at night would drift off into all kinds of questions, things. I think it was maybe the first start of like, this is how you become analytical and, and, and opinionated. But I remember really, my instinct was, this is not good news. And before college, I was like, I'm gonna get off this and do college on whatever my brain is, and I don't wanna do this anymore.

And so I, I stopped, and it shocks me to this day that a kid who thought he was dumb his whole life, gets on a drug that makes him a high honor student and somehow convinces himself not to keep that going into college. I, that, that's the kinda thing where I'm like, that's the universe being like, this will be better for you long-term if you stop.

• 48:35H. Foley?

Did you do good in college?

• 48:36Speaker 03

I did, I did, yeah. I mean, I was an average student.

• 48:39H. Foley?

Your brain's not rewired from the, from taking that, right? So you still kinda have the ADHD.

• 48:43Speaker 03

I don't think so, but I look now and I'm just like, man, some of these pills that we just give kids to fix a thing we don't fully understand, it really bothers me. I'm like, oh, I, there might be elements of me that are still long-term fucked up from taking this drug. I mean, there's no, I, there's no way to say. I don't really know. I'm also very happy with how things are, but, yeah, it's, it's, it was a, it was a strange choice. I, I'm shocked I made that decision.

• 49:06H. Foley?

Cause they wanna put me on ADHD medication.

• 49:08Speaker 03

You're good. You don't need it.

• 49:09H. Foley?

  You sure?

• 49:09Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 49:10H. Foley?

  I'm pretty dumb, man.

• 49:11Speaker 01

I might have to push back on that a smidge there, Roar.

• 49:16Speaker 03

I think he should be shooting it up. Not pills.

• 49:20Speaker 01

You've known the guy for 44 minutes.

• 49:22Speaker 03

  Nah, you're good.

• 49:24H. Foley?

Good shape too. Keep it going, fatty.

• 49:28Speaker 01

Alright. Uh, okay. Uh, how much cash do you have on you right now?

• 49:33Speaker 03

  I think I have $60.

• 49:34Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 49:35Speaker 03

Cause of the travel and I, uh,

• 49:37Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 49:38Speaker 03

Got a little nervous about it. They all twenties? They're all, they're all twenties.

• 49:43H. Foley?

Kind of plastic you're throwing around these days. You got an Amex?

• 49:45Speaker 03

I got an Amex. I mean, for doing stand-up, you want to have all those cards. So I've got the Marriott Bonvoy Visa to try to earn points at the hotels. You gotta do it. You gotta like have the cards. Cause if you're staying at hotels, like for instance, with my tours, I pay for my room, my tour manager's room. Anyone opening, I get their room. You're like elite status. Yeah, elite status instantly. Cause you're like, oh, I just earned it. And I will say at the end of that tour, I took my wife and daughter and I on, we went on a ski vacation and it paid for like the whole fucking thing. I had earned so many points on that card. Um, Amex, Delta, and like a business card.

• 50:26Speaker 03

Uh, for like, oh, when you travel, these are your business expenses. Put them on this MasterCard. That kind of thing. Pretty good.

• 50:32H. Foley?

I just want to take a step back. Giving a, giving a book as a present that you haven't read, that's trash.

• 50:36Speaker 03

  Very dirtbag.

• 50:37H. Foley?

I love it. I love it. I used to recommend books to people I didn't read.

• 50:42Speaker 03

It was like a pitch that you're like, guys, mystery. You like mysteries? It changed my life. Uh, have you ever taken a picture, posed for a picture with a cigar? Yes. Do you have a favorite frozen pizza? I also feel not good about it. Um, I think DiGiorno's. Gentlemen? I, but, but I will say Daniel Van Kirk, uh, turned me on to, he's another comic. We did a podcast together. Well, he turned me on to the, not only the Tombstone Pizza, but at his cabin in Wisconsin, he has the Tombstone Pizza Oven. Hooker. That feels very like Marlboro, Marlboro. Miles. You fire it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But also when we cooked it in there, I was like, oh my God, it makes perfect, it does cook it perfectly.

• 51:26Speaker 03

I gotta get eyes on that.

• 51:28H. Foley?

  I like it.

• 51:28Speaker 03

I love Tombstone. You can find that for sure.

• 51:31H. Foley?

In the shower, you peeing in the shower?

• 51:34Speaker 03

  Pee in the shower.

• 51:35H. Foley?

  Brush your teeth in there?

• 51:36Speaker 03

  No.

• 51:36H. Foley?

No? You guys use a bar? You have body wash?

• 51:39Speaker 03

Bar. We have a bar. I don't do, use a loofah.

• 51:42Speaker 01

  Bar to body?

• 51:43Speaker 03

I try not to use the body wash. Someone said it's not as good for your skin. Like it's, I have bad eczema and someone's like, use a bar, don't use the soaps. But I gotta say, you get like some Old Spice, you're like, but this makes me smell better.

• 51:53H. Foley?

  It smells so good.

• 51:54Speaker 03

Um, my wife is very like, uh, waste conscious of all that stuff. So she gets like bars that are the shampoo and bars that are conditioner that you just kind of get some frothiness going.

• 52:04H. Foley?

  Really?

• 52:05Speaker 03

  I gotta say, it's great.

• 52:07Speaker 01

Cut out the middleman. What are we doing here?

• 52:08Speaker 03

And you don't have this like giant plastic bottle. So like, and just in terms of aesthetic, it looks better in the, in the shower where there's no bottles. It's like just these bars.

• 52:18H. Foley?

  I'm with you.

• 52:18Speaker 03

  Looks good.

• 52:19H. Foley?

  Alright.

• 52:19Speaker 03

And I think it, it might be cheaper, actually.

• 52:22H. Foley?

  It's pretty good.

• 52:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:23H. Foley?

Not bad. What is the, uh, what is the bar? Do you know the name, brand of it?

• 52:26Speaker 03

  No.

• 52:27H. Foley?

  No? Something nice.

• 52:29Speaker 03

Not at all. It's nice. It smells good.

• 52:31H. Foley?

What about the toothpaste? What are you rocking with?

• 52:33Speaker 03

Um, we were, I'll do Tom's. Tom's toothpaste, Jason's. There's one we're doing now that I do not remember.

• 52:41H. Foley?

I know, all those organic ones. I'll do Gary's. I go to their garages and they whip up a little paste. They whip up a little paste. Gotta bring my own tube? They fill it up. I don't know what's in it. Do you floss every day?

• 52:53Speaker 03

  I need to, no.

• 52:55H. Foley?

Do you use an electric toothbrush or a regular toothbrush?

• 52:57Speaker 03

  Regular toothbrush.

• 52:58H. Foley?

  Regular toothbrush.

• 52:59Speaker 03

  Yeah, okay.

• 52:59Speaker 01

Have you had a tick on you in the last 365 days?

• 53:02Speaker 03

No, but I now, I mean, we were in Vermont for six weeks this past summer and all anyone talked about was ticks and they're like, you're gonna get Lyme disease. I was like, now I'm like, I'm like, fuck, how do you know? How do you fucking know? You can't feel it.

• 53:14Speaker 01

I know. They're like, it's so, so small, you can't even see them.

• 53:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 53:17H. Foley?

Do you own any turquoise jewelry?

• 53:19Speaker 03

  No.

• 53:20H. Foley?

  Own binoculars?

• 53:21Speaker 03

  No. Okay.

• 53:23Speaker 01

Will you look through someone else's medicine cabinet if you're at their house?

• 53:26Speaker 03

No. Really? I don't, I, I think cause I don't know what most things are and I'm not looking for anything.

• 53:31Speaker 01

I'm not saying to look, just, just out of curiosity, not to, not to like lift something.

• 53:35Speaker 03

If, if some, if it was on display, I would take a peek.

• 53:38Speaker 01

  Take a gander.

• 53:38Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah. I wouldn't open a cabinet to try to find it.

• 53:41H. Foley?

  Are you a cologne guy?

• 53:42Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 53:42H. Foley?

  What are you using?

• 53:43Speaker 03

  Uh, I have a-

• 53:44Speaker 01

  Steve's.

• 53:45Speaker 03

I have a Jason's toothpaste rub. Um, I have Hugo Boss.

• 53:51Speaker 01

  Stacy!

• 53:52Speaker 03

And I have, uh, um, I think I have Polo, the like-

• 53:57H. Foley?

  The blue one?

• 53:57Speaker 03

Ralph Lauren, I don't know, it's not blue.

• 53:59Speaker 01

  Black.

• 54:00H. Foley?

  The old school green one?

• 54:01Speaker 03

  Old school green one.

• 54:02H. Foley?

  God damn!

• 54:03Speaker 03

Well, they did like a re-release and it smells, it's weird to say this, but it smells modern.

• 54:07H. Foley?

  Yeah, I got you.

• 54:08Speaker 03

It doesn't have that old grandfather smell, it's like something else.

• 54:10H. Foley?

  Yeah, that old green bottle.

• 54:11Speaker 03

But they, I think they liked that bottle.

• 54:12H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 54:12Speaker 03

They just were like, let's get a different scent in there. That bottle's sweet, man, that color. I think that's why I bought it, I was like, so attracted to it.

• 54:18H. Foley?

  Sure, yeah.

• 54:19Speaker 03

But I, uh, I don't like smelling bad and I think I overdo it because I live in fear that I do. And I think a lot of times my wife is like, in your natural state, you're fine.

• 54:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 54:28Speaker 03

She's like, you, you overdo it a little bit.

• 54:30H. Foley?

Now, when you put the cologne on, where does it go? A little, where is it?

• 54:32Speaker 03

I do a little spray so it kinda falls on me, because if I spray directly, I'll overdo it.

• 54:37H. Foley?

  After you get dressed?

• 54:37Speaker 03

And then people can't breathe around you, after I get dressed, yeah.

• 54:39H. Foley?

So you get dressed and it's one, two?

• 54:40Speaker 03

I'll do like, a little, little spray and walk into it.

• 54:43H. Foley?

  Okay, alright.

• 54:44Speaker 03

So me, my ex-girlfriend from college told me, she was like, get a little of cologne in your hair, it stays in there longer.

• 54:48Speaker 01

  Ah.

• 54:49H. Foley?

  Does.

• 54:49Speaker 03

  The smell.

• 54:50H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 54:50Speaker 03

They could find out that that's-

• 54:52H. Foley?

That attracts ticks, we don't know, we don't really know.

• 54:55Speaker 01

Now I got a line, great, thanks a lot.

• 54:57H. Foley?

How do you feel about the rotisserie chicken?

• 54:59Speaker 03

  I've, I've been a fan.

• 55:01H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 55:02Speaker 01

Uh, do you own an air fryer?

• 55:04Speaker 03

No. Are those, are they healthy, are they good? I know there's a craze about it.

• 55:08Speaker 01

I think they, I mean, I think, I think it is, yeah, it's better than, you know, uh-

• 55:12Speaker 03

I'm a little shocked we don't have one, actually.

• 55:14Speaker 01

Well, I think it makes, I think the, the healthiness of it is like, you're not frying it and that's, you know, it's just a convection oven or whatever. And it's like, it lets you eat healthier quicker.

• 55:23Speaker 03

  Yeah, okay.

• 55:24Speaker 01

Rather than like, preparing a whole meal with multiple, like, the oven and everything, it's kinda all in.

• 55:28Speaker 03

What's the, uh, the like, sous vide or whatever, when it's like, the air-

• 55:31Speaker 01

Yeah, that just takes forever, no, it's water.

• 55:32Speaker 03

  Water, yeah.

• 55:33Speaker 01

  In hot water, yeah.

• 55:34Speaker 03

  And you're like, um-

• 55:35H. Foley?

Put it in a plastic bag and boil it?

• 55:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 55:37H. Foley?

  I don't get it.

• 55:37Speaker 03

I'm kinda surprised we've never did that either.

• 55:38Speaker 01

  I like a sear, I don't just like a-

• 55:40H. Foley?

  Well, you reverse sear it.

• 55:41Speaker 03

Yeah, you wanna sear it, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 55:42H. Foley?

You're supposed to reverse sear it after you're done. Then you throw it on the griddle.

• 55:46Speaker 01

Oh, well, how much time you got?

• 55:49H. Foley?

You said that you keep the butter on the counter and some in the fridge now.

• 55:52Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 55:53H. Foley?

Okay, what about the mayonnaise? Are you a mayonnaise family? Do you have Hellmann's? Do you have Miracle Whip?

• 55:57Speaker 03

Okay, growing up, we had both of those. I was a big Miracle Whip kid. I didn't fully understand. God damn. I didn't understand that, because I was like, tastes great. It's a whole Applebee's thing again. I didn't understand that people were grossed out by it. But I also, it was Hellmann's. But, uh, yeah, now we're, my wife, this is my wife who's great.

• 56:13H. Foley?

  Avocado oil or something?

• 56:15Speaker 03

We got this avocado oil, organic sort of thing. It's great.

• 56:17H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 56:18Speaker 03

Um, but it is funny how now, how I feel about Miracle Whip is just like, I can't do this. But I mean, as a kid, I was like, why would you not pick fucking Miracle Whip?

• 56:27H. Foley?

It's got some sugar in it. Where are you guys shopping? Do you shop Whole Foods, people, I'd imagine?

• 56:32Speaker 03

We, uh, no, we do, in our neighborhood, the closest is Sprouts.

• 56:36H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 56:37Speaker 03

So we've become a big Sprouts guy.

• 56:37H. Foley?

  Gotcha.

• 56:38Speaker 03

Yeah. I will say, though, if there was an accessible, it blows my mind that in Denver, in the neighborhood we're in, there's not an accessible Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Really? But we are like Sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's. And there is a store called King Supers. S-O-O-P-E-R-S. I went in our neighborhood, and I came back and I told my wife, I go, it's the biggest grocery store I've ever been in. It has a directory to like, quickly just go cereal, oh, aisle four, like your basics. Really? They're on a giant board so that you don't wander around. And I've never seen that in a store in my life. It was insane. Hey, I like that. But I like, I've liked Sprouts so far.

• 57:18H. Foley?

Did you ever shop at Air One when you were in LA?

• 57:20Speaker 03

No, I mean, I have gotten stuff from Air One, but it's, it's so comically ridiculous to me. The strawberry, that's 20 bucks. You know about that? I've heard. Yeah. I've heard. Yeah. I've never been.

• 57:31H. Foley?

Will you take leftovers home from a restaurant?

• 57:33Speaker 03

Oh, yeah, uh, every time. Are there any milk crates in your house right now? No, no. You have a record collection? Thank you for a record guy. I have a record collection. I had a broken turntable, so I have no receiver and no, uh, record player. That's trash. And I just have vinyls. You just have records. And I'm not gonna, like, vinyls that if my wife was ever gonna get rid of these, I, she would be surprised that I passionately care about them. She'd be like, you don't even, you don't even know what you have. I know, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 58:00H. Foley?

If you go out to eat with another couple, you guys split the check or you one pick, one person picking it up, get the next one?

• 58:04Speaker 03

I, I like to try to pick it up if I can.

• 58:07Speaker 01

  Gentlemen.

• 58:08Speaker 03

I always feel like it's nice. People have done it for me. It always feels like a thing that in the end of your life, if you went back and did the math, it probably all evened out anyways. Um, but I just like it and I, I just hate the, hey, can we split it four ways? I mean, definitely when I'm on the road with other comics and you're like on a budget and you're already paying for flights and pay and hotels. I'm easily like, we're all splitting. I'm not paying anything else. But going out with friends, um, you know, sometimes you got a buddy that beats you to the punch. Sometimes you want to do it, but it all evens out. The amount of time someone's hooked me up, it's, you know.

• 58:42Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 58:42H. Foley?

We got you. We got you. Okay.

• 58:44Speaker 01

Chalk it up to the universe. Uh, ever subscribe to Maxo magazine?

• 58:47Speaker 03

Uh, no, but man, in college, it was like.

• 58:50Speaker 01

Get your hands on one of them.

• 58:51Speaker 03

  This is accessible porn.

• 58:54Speaker 01

FHM, there was like a three year period.

• 58:56Speaker 03

  Yes, it was.

• 58:57Speaker 01

Where they all hit and all like the famous stars, they were all in the, it was just like such a.

• 59:02Speaker 03

Well, that's when like Axe body spray got lumped in with the culture of if you like Maximo and Axe body spray. When I was always like, I think Axe body spray is kind of fucking great. As a guy who's worried about smelling. I was like, this is kind of a great product, but it immediately became like douchey because of Maximo.

• 59:19H. Foley?

You're flying up front most of the time?

• 59:20Speaker 03

  Try to. Yeah.

• 59:21H. Foley?

  You bring food on?

• 59:22Speaker 03

I have so many Delta miles that I'll buy the back because I'm like, oh, they're gonna push me up to the front.

• 59:28Speaker 01

That's smart. I don't like rolling the dice.

• 59:31Speaker 03

I'll do both. It depends. Yeah.

• 59:33H. Foley?

You bring food on the plane with you?

• 59:34Speaker 03

I don't usually, but I actually kind of wish I did. I think I'd eat better because some of these flights where it's four hours. I will say Delta does serve pretty good food. If you're in first class, it can be good food. If you're not, it's these, you know, the boxes you buy and I don't think they're that great and I, I, I'm trying to be better about, about bringing like protein bars and stuff, just so.

• 59:54H. Foley?

Okay. All right. Protein. Never like a tuna sandwich or anything like that.

• 59:57Speaker 03

I, I would, but I'd feel bad. I mean, the moment you crack that open, everyone's like, go fuck yourself.

• 1:00:04H. Foley?

  Seat back.

• 1:00:05Speaker 03

  I don't, I don't most of the time.

• 1:00:07H. Foley?

  Good man.

• 1:00:07Speaker 03

I, I, if I'm in first class, I put the seat back, cause I'm like, we're all doing great up here. Uh, with, if I'm in like Delta Comfort, and I'm right in front of the main cabin, I'm like, well, no, that's the worst fucking move for that. That's the worst row. Um, but I think about it all the time. I, I'm like, eh, some of these seats go a little too far back.

• 1:00:26Speaker 01

I, I don't disagree with you there. Uh, hmm. Do you know how, are you good with chopsticks?

• 1:00:31Speaker 03

  I am, yeah.

• 1:00:32Speaker 01

I can tell, I can tell. You open your eyes underwater?

• 1:00:35Speaker 03

No. That's a great fucking question. That, you could have honestly done this show and asked only that and probably get a good read on if someone's garbage or not.

• 1:00:45H. Foley?

Anybody in the family ever been killed by a mudslide or a stampede?

• 1:00:49Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:00:49H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:00:50Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:00:50H. Foley?

  Just gotta ask.

• 1:00:51Speaker 03

I know, I know. It does sound like just the basics cops have to ask you if it's an interrogation.

• 1:00:56Speaker 01

Speaking of, has anybody in your family ever represented themselves in court?

• 1:01:00Speaker 03

  Uh, no, no.

• 1:01:01Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:01:02H. Foley?

  Uh, ever seen a bobcat?

• 1:01:04Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:01:04H. Foley?

  Be pretty cool.

• 1:01:05Speaker 03

  I don't think so.

• 1:01:07H. Foley?

  You guys got one?

• 1:01:08Speaker 03

  We illegally have a bobcat.

• 1:01:10Speaker 01

That's Patreon money right there. We got a bobcat. Uh, oh, yeah, go.

• 1:01:13H. Foley?

Any injuries as a kid? You ever break your arm, your wrist?

• 1:01:16Speaker 03

I broke, uh, my collarbone in high school playing soccer. Went up for a header, goalkeeper came out and punched it, and he was like the kid who'd gone through puberty the most. He was a beast.

• 1:01:26Speaker 01

Like getting hit by a dude?

• 1:01:26Speaker 03

Yes. And he like punched it away. I get knocked down and I was fine, but all of his weight crashed on me and I was like this and it was like snap.

• 1:01:35H. Foley?

  Ah.

• 1:01:36Speaker 03

Yeah. That was, uh, that was my major injury. And then aside from that, in soccer, it was always spraining my fucking ankle. Tearing ligaments and then being out for two to three weeks.

• 1:01:48H. Foley?

  Man, an ankle sprain sucks.

• 1:01:50Speaker 03

I did it, I still play soccer. I did it like, uh, two or three months ago. And I was like, what am I doing at this age?

• 1:01:56H. Foley?

  I hate an ankle sprain.

• 1:01:57Speaker 01

Anybody, any one of my friends or relatives who's like, I just got in over 30, it's usually soccer.

• 1:02:02Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:02:02Speaker 01

Whatever league, flag football. I'm like, you're gonna get hurt.

• 1:02:05Speaker 03

  I know.

• 1:02:06Speaker 01

Six weeks later, you see them in a leg, a brace, like I had to have my meniscus repaired. You're like, stop.

• 1:02:12Speaker 03

All I think is I've played crazy sports and never had a severe knee injury and I'm gonna do it now when there's nothing to even play for.

• 1:02:20Speaker 01

  Nothing to gain, yeah.

• 1:02:21Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:02:24Speaker 01

  I'm sorry.

• 1:02:25Speaker 03

  Please.

• 1:02:26Speaker 01

Have you ever had a fake voicemail where you're like, hello? Hello?

• 1:02:30Speaker 03

  I don't think so.

• 1:02:31Speaker 01

  Never mind, you know, okay.

• 1:02:32Speaker 03

I'm not against those, by the way.

• 1:02:33Speaker 01

You seem like a silly guy, that's why.

• 1:02:34Speaker 03

I love it. When someone's got a good voicemail, I'm like, good for you. That's a hard one to do.

• 1:02:39H. Foley?

  What is the-

• 1:02:39Speaker 01

  That's hard, it's a hard, hard one.

• 1:02:40H. Foley?

What's the Christmas light situation at the Scoville house these days?

• 1:02:44Speaker 03

  Growing, oh, these days?

• 1:02:44H. Foley?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:45Speaker 03

These days, it's probably a little more mature.

• 1:02:47H. Foley?

  White lights?

• 1:02:48Speaker 03

My wife likes the white lights. Me and the kid like the multicolor. So we have the pre-lit Christmas tree that you put, the artificial tree that you put together, where you can hit the thing and it can go all white, blinking all white, all multicolor, blinking multicolor, both kinda, I actually think it's the greatest invention of all time.

• 1:03:07H. Foley?

  Artificial tree.

• 1:03:08Speaker 03

Artificial tree. Growing up, always artificial tree. My dad's asthma, we didn't even bring in a real tree because of it. Always was in the artificial tree. My wife and I did a real tree one Christmas, and I, there was a time period where I was like, this is great, but then I was also like-

• 1:03:24Speaker 01

  It sucks.

• 1:03:25Speaker 03

I don't fucking care about this. It was hard to keep it alive. I don't know that it made it to Christmas. And then like, just getting rid of it, when I was like, oh, I'll just go spend 70 bucks-

• 1:03:34Speaker 01

  They're so cheap.

• 1:03:35Speaker 03

And just keep this tree for 10 years.

• 1:03:37Speaker 01

And they just open right up.

• 1:03:38Speaker 03

  And it's ready.

• 1:03:39Speaker 01

It's great. I switched this year. I was so anti-fake tree, and now I'm like-

• 1:03:42Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

  Game changer.

• 1:03:44Speaker 03

  It's so much easier.

• 1:03:45Speaker 01

  Game changer.

• 1:03:46H. Foley?

Do you say goodbye to places as a family? Like, if you're leaving like, a hotel room or like, an Airbnb or something like that, you say, "Bye, house," or whatever?

• 1:03:53Speaker 03

When we moved, I definitely felt that. I felt that way every time I've moved.

• 1:03:56H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:03:57Speaker 03

But never like, in short-term like, hotel Airbnb stuff.

• 1:04:00H. Foley?

  Okay.

• 1:04:00Speaker 03

But I do feel like I am sentimental. I do think I, you might have just malplanted the seed of me now doing that.

• 1:04:07Speaker 01

  Bye, studio.

• 1:04:09Speaker 03

Guys, I know we're done taping. You guys care if I have a minute in here?

• 1:04:13Speaker 01

  Just sitting here in silence.

• 1:04:14Speaker 03

Touch some of the objects I didn't interact with.

• 1:04:17Speaker 01

Uh, do you have a go-to karaoke song?

• 1:04:19Speaker 03

No. I would say, I love singing. I think I'm okay at singing. And every time I go to karaoke, I'm like, why don't I know what I want to sing? But I don't go to, I maybe have gone to karaoke five times my whole life.

• 1:04:35Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:04:35Speaker 03

Which is probably why. But that wanting to know what my song is, is the same as in my youth of going out for drinks and still not knowing what cocktail I like. So always just getting a beer. When I'm like, oh, I don't, do I like vodka? Do I like whiskey? I don't know.

• 1:04:52Speaker 01

  What is bourbon again?

• 1:04:52Speaker 03

In college, everything was like whiskey and coke.

• 1:04:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:54Speaker 03

So now, after college, I'm like, well, I know I don't want that anymore. But I don't even know what the options are. Now I'm like addicted to old fashions and paper planes.

• 1:05:03Speaker 01

  Paper planes are great.

• 1:05:04Speaker 03

  Such a good drink.

• 1:05:05Speaker 01

I had one for the first time last year.

• 1:05:07Speaker 03

  So good.

• 1:05:07Speaker 01

  Fantastic. I'm a...

• 1:05:08Speaker 03

  Easy breezy.

• 1:05:09Speaker 01

  Manhattan man myself.

• 1:05:10H. Foley?

When you have a beard of the mustache, do you ever, you ever, you ever bite the hairs on the side and pull them out?

• 1:05:15Speaker 03

  I've thought about it.

• 1:05:16H. Foley?

No, I do it all the time.

• 1:05:17Speaker 03

It bugs me if it kind of is curling under and I catch any of it and then I immediately gotta get the like...

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

  Zip it up.

• 1:05:23Speaker 03

  Zip, zippy on it.

• 1:05:24Speaker 01

Will you buy the floor model of an appliance or a TV?

• 1:05:27Speaker 03

  I would.

• 1:05:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:28Speaker 03

  I'll save that money.

• 1:05:29Speaker 01

  Save a couple of bucks.

• 1:05:29Speaker 03

  I'll save that money.

• 1:05:30H. Foley?

Bite your nails, clip your nails.

• 1:05:31Speaker 03

  Bite them.

• 1:05:32H. Foley?

  Where do they go?

• 1:05:32Speaker 03

Hardcore bite them. Toilet, flush it.

• 1:05:35H. Foley?

  Really?

• 1:05:35Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:05:36Speaker 01

  That's pretty nice.

• 1:05:37Speaker 03

I'm not gonna lie, I actually, I think I do a pretty fucking good job.

• 1:05:40Speaker 01

Whoa, what the fuck? That's great.

• 1:05:42Speaker 03

  I love it.

• 1:05:43Speaker 01

  Jesus, look at me, you.

• 1:05:45Speaker 03

And so when people say, oh, you bite your nails, and then I show them, and they're like, you don't bite your nails, I go, I fucking bite my nails.

• 1:05:50Speaker 01

  That's how good I am.

• 1:05:51Speaker 03

  I got this is pride.

• 1:05:52Speaker 01

  Yeah. Uh huh.

• 1:05:56Speaker 01

  I don't know, I mean...

• 1:05:58H. Foley?

Oh, I got him dead to rights. What are you talking about?

• 1:06:00Speaker 01

  He's trash. Yeah, I know.

• 1:06:02Speaker 03

  He's below trash.

• 1:06:04Speaker 01

He's just called me the earth. He's just got a couple of good things where I'm like, he, he, he just showed me the nails.

• 1:06:09H. Foley?

How many suits do you have at the house?

• 1:06:11Speaker 03

  I have two suits.

• 1:06:13H. Foley?

  What colors?

• 1:06:14Speaker 03

Uh, one is green that I got from, this is why I have these suits is because of any press events where someone dressed me and then I'm always like, can I keep this? And they're like, yeah, all right.

• 1:06:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:27H. Foley?

  No shit.

• 1:06:28Speaker 03

So I have like a fashionable green suit.

• 1:06:30Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 1:06:30Speaker 03

That I, I think at the time was cool. I don't know that I can wear it again because I never wear a suit. So if I put it on now, people may be like, well, that's throwback.

• 1:06:38H. Foley?

  Three buttons?

• 1:06:39Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, exactly.

• 1:06:40H. Foley?

  Shoulder pads.

• 1:06:41Speaker 03

And the other one is like sort of purplish, but like this classy purple that it, I get compliments all the time because people will go, what color is that suit? Cause there's like kind of these small lines in it.

• 1:06:53H. Foley?

  Ah, I got you.

• 1:06:53Speaker 03

And I'm like, it's purple. And they're like, that's a great suit. And I'm like, I know. And I loved the Joker growing up, which is why I kind of love that it's purple.

• 1:07:01Speaker 01

There you go. I mean, this kid's a dirtbag through and through. This is my favorite suit because the Joker.

• 1:07:06Speaker 03

And they're like, you're an adult with a child.

• 1:07:11Speaker 01

  All trash, baby.

• 1:07:12H. Foley?

Yeah, a hundred percent trash, Mr. Rory Scoville.

• 1:07:14Speaker 03

No, I knew it before I got here.

• 1:07:16H. Foley?

What a tale though, that's fantastic. We couldn't be happier for you. Like I said, you are one of our absolute favorites.

• 1:07:21Speaker 03

  Oh yeah, thank you.

• 1:07:22H. Foley?

You're the most talented guy out there, man, honestly.

• 1:07:24Speaker 03

  I appreciate that.

• 1:07:24H. Foley?

  You're fantastic, we love you.

• 1:07:25Speaker 03

  Thank you.

• 1:07:25H. Foley?

Um, what do you got coming up? You want the folks to know?

• 1:07:27Speaker 01

• 1:07:28Speaker 03
