Margot Robbie

It’s a huge one this week, we have superstar Margot Robbie coming home to Clapham! Fresh from the Eurostar after the Parisian premiere for her new film ‘Wuthering Heights’ (starring Jacob Elordi and directed by friend of the pod, the gorgeous Emerald Fennell) Margot was exactly what we always dreamed she would be; a gem of a guest and gorgeous human! We talked about the juggle with producing and acting in films, the food she ate growing up (including ‘Fivesies’ and 'Bogan Narrrrchos’), how her own gin ‘Papa Salt’ came to be, teaching Bette Midler about ‘Gavin & Stacey’, the bachelorette party her friends threw for her character Cathy, her husband being a phenomenal cook, the accent training she needed when she started in ‘Neighbours', and we hear how she nearly killed her grandma-in-law by feeding her raw ham! Margot, you’re welcome to join us every week, and we’re absolutely popping round for one of Tom’s famous ‘egg’ steaks! 'Wuthering Heights' is released globally in cinemas on 13th February. • 2:57Jessie Ware?

Hello and welcome to Tave Mamas. I'm Jessie Ware and I'm here with Lenny Looking Fab. How are you, Lenny?

• 3:01Speaker 05

I am okay, all things considered. I won't go into detail.

• 3:05Jessie Ware?

Okay. I have had a really busy weekend.

• 3:09Speaker 05

  I bet you have.

• 3:10Jessie Ware?

  A bit with you.

• 3:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 3:11Jessie Ware?

But I went from like putting out a song, being on Graham Norton, to volunteering on the hot dog stand at the school disco. I thought I was doing the bar, but instead I was manhandling like jarred sausages.

• 3:23Speaker 05

  Did you prefer the bar?

• 3:24Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 3:24Speaker 05

Yeah. Last time you got drunk?

• 3:26Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 3:27Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 3:27Jessie Ware?

No, I still got drunk, but it's fine. Went to a really cool new club in Peckham called Palais.

• 3:33Speaker 05

  Wow.

• 3:34Jessie Ware?

Which is fab. So that's exciting. So yeah, I feel absolutely wrecked, to be honest. And then I've been trying to cram for this guest that we've got today, who I'm very excited about, because you know, these are her ends. So it feels only right that she's coming home.

• 3:49Speaker 05

She's back in her own hunting ground.

• 3:51Jessie Ware?

We've got Margot Robbie coming on today. I hope she's hungry. I'm sure she's tired. She was in Paris last night for the premiere of Wuthering Heights there, and her train is delayed and she is coming straight from the Eurostart to here. She's on her way. I'm sure she's hungry.

• 4:08Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 4:08Jessie Ware?

  What have you made, Mum?

• 4:09Speaker 05

I've made salmon with fennel and clementines. So the salmon's going to be baked in the oven.

• 4:16Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 4:17Speaker 05

In a sauce that I've made with star anise.

• 4:20Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 4:21Speaker 05

  My own.

• 4:22Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 4:22Speaker 05

  Citrus vodka.

• 4:24Jessie Ware?

  I thought it was verbena.

• 4:26Speaker 05

I didn't use verbena because I didn't have a verbena about my person.

• 4:29Jessie Ware?

  Oh.

• 4:29Speaker 05

But I did have lemon peel, which you put in a jar.

• 4:33Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 4:34Speaker 05

And it's been marinating for a week.

• 4:36Jessie Ware?

  Wow.

• 4:36Speaker 05

And then it's going to go on the salmon, that sauce, and then I'm going to bake it. And then I'm going to put candied clementines.

• 4:44Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 4:44Speaker 05

On the top. Let's hope it's nice.

• 4:46Jessie Ware?

  It's a guardian recipe, isn't it?

• 4:48Speaker 05

  Yes, guardian feast.

• 4:49Jessie Ware?

It reminds me a bit of the Ottolenghi.

• 4:51Speaker 05

  The Ottolenghi.

• 4:52Jessie Ware?

Because what booze does he put in with that?

• 4:54Speaker 05

  Ouzo or Arak.

• 4:56Jessie Ware?

  Arak.

• 4:56Speaker 05

Yeah. And then I've done a crunchy salad.

• 4:59Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 5:00Speaker 05

I've roasted chickpeas in my air fryer.

• 5:02Jessie Ware?

  Mm.

• 5:02Speaker 05

Very pleased with those. And then you've brought one of your breads.

• 5:06Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, I have.

• 5:08Speaker 05

  This is a tip top?

• 5:09Jessie Ware?

I think it's a decent one. It's got a good rise on it. I made another one this morning that had been in the fridge for just under forty eight hours. And it had lost its height. So this one.

• 5:21Speaker 05

  That sounds great.

• 5:22Jessie Ware?

It's, I think it's gonna be okay. It may not be as sour because it's only had like fourteen hours.

• 5:29Speaker 05

  Oh.

• 5:30Jessie Ware?

  But never mind.

• 5:30Speaker 05

You could be talking in Chinese and I'd understand it better. I don't know nothing about baking.

• 5:36Jessie Ware?

  Sorry, I'm just.

• 5:37Speaker 05

  And you're a baker now.

• 5:38Jessie Ware?

No, it looks okay. You just never know until you cut through.

• 5:41Speaker 05

  Looks fabulous.

• 5:42Jessie Ware?

  Thank you.

• 5:42Speaker 05

And then for dessert, I've made a Middle Eastern eat and mess.

• 5:47Jessie Ware?

  Yum.

• 5:47Speaker 05

So it's got pomegranate, strawberries, pomegranate molasses, sumac, mosca pony.

• 5:56Jessie Ware?

  It's got everything.

• 5:57Speaker 05

  Saucre.

• 5:57Jessie Ware?

Have you made this one before?

• 5:58Speaker 05

I have, but I don't think I did it as religiously as I did it this time. And I made meringues last week, so that's why I've made it, so I could use the meringues.

• 6:07Jessie Ware?

  Oh, great. Sounds delicious.

• 6:09Speaker 05

  I hope so.

• 6:10Jessie Ware?

So Margot's coming on to talk about Wuthering Heights, which stars her and Jacoba Lodi and Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes.

• 6:18Speaker 05

And revelatory Owen Cooper, who was in Adel's.

• 6:21Jessie Ware?

Owen Cooper is so good, isn't he?

• 6:22Speaker 05

  Yeah, he's so great.

• 6:24Jessie Ware?

And directed by Emerald Fennell, who's been on the podcast before, who we love. Anyway, we went to see it. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. The costumes, the sex.

• 6:34Speaker 05

  Yeah, a lot of sex.

• 6:35Jessie Ware?

  The malls, Charlie XCX's soundtrack.

• 6:38Speaker 05

  Lot of sex.

• 6:39Jessie Ware?

I can't wait to talk to Margot about it.

• 6:42Speaker 05

  And a lot of sex.

• 6:43Jessie Ware?

Margot Robbie coming up on Table manners.

• 6:54Jessie Ware?

Margot Robbie, as I live and breathe. Well, you look, you look fabulous. You don't look flustered after having a very late Euro star.

• 7:02Speaker 06

I just, I just got it. I love getting the Euro star.

• 7:05Jessie Ware?

  Did you eat?

• 7:06Speaker 06

Love it. Um, I actually ate only a little bit.

• 7:09Jessie Ware?

  Good.

• 7:10Speaker 06

Um, because I thought that we were going to be eating here and I almost got the whole meal and then I, I stocked myself. I just had a bit of cheese and bread and.

• 7:18Speaker 05

  Cheese and bread.

• 7:19Speaker 06

A bit of chutney and that was it. Saving myself.

• 7:21Jessie Ware?

How are you after the premiere last night?

• 7:24Speaker 06

Oh, good. It was so mega. Like, it was like a huge theatre in Paris, obviously, called The Rex. And it fits like two and a half thousand people. So it was massive. Like, I don't know if I've ever, I've never seen a movie with that many people at the same time. But yeah, it was so, it's a stunning theatre and, um, I had this huge Chanel gown.

• 7:46Jessie Ware?

  Amazing.

• 7:47Speaker 06

I loved it so much. I felt like a princess. Um, and it was great. Yeah. And then we went to the Sacre Coeur afterwards and did like a photo and it was raining, which it rains a lot in Wuthering Heights in the movie that we're promoting right now. So it was actually perfect. It was really fitting.

• 8:02Jessie Ware?

Yeah. Did you, you and your bosom catch a cold in a, when you were shooting?

• 8:06Speaker 06

  So much.

• 8:07Jessie Ware?

  Like, oh my god.

• 8:08Speaker 06

A lot of heaving bosom in that movie. Yes.

• 8:10Jessie Ware?

  Fab, fab bosom.

• 8:11Speaker 06

Fab bosom. We love it. We love it. As uncomfortable as corsets are.

• 8:14Jessie Ware?

Oh my god. There's that really, but that's really good shot of when you're getting married and you're like.

• 8:20Speaker 06

  Felt like Rose in Titanic.

• 8:22Jessie Ware?

  Oh my god.

• 8:22Speaker 06

Mother being like, you will marry Billy Zane. Um, I quite liked that scene, actually.

• 8:27Jessie Ware?

  Can we cheers?

• 8:28Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 8:30Jessie Ware?

  Welcome home Cathy.

• 8:32Speaker 05

  Thanks. Yeah, back in Clapham.

• 8:34Speaker 06

Back in my old stomping ground.

• 8:35Speaker 05

What whereabouts did you live? Was it this side?

• 8:38Speaker 06

I was on Clapham Manor Street, the other side. So if you went across, across the common a little bit, like to the right from here, I think. Yeah. Wait, so do you both live here? One of you lives here?

• 8:47Speaker 05

  She was brought.

• 8:48Jessie Ware?

  I was brought up here.

• 8:49Speaker 06

  This is your family home?

• 8:50Jessie Ware?

Yeah. Um, but I don't live here anymore, but we're near enough.

• 8:54Speaker 05

Yeah, we almost lived together, but not quite.

• 8:57Speaker 06

Well, you're doing this often enough.

• 8:58Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 9:00Speaker 06

  So, yeah, I mean.

• 9:01Jessie Ware?

How much has Clapham changed since, I mean, I was living.

• 9:04Speaker 05

  Just more restaurants.

• 9:05Speaker 06

  More restaurants.

• 9:06Jessie Ware?

  Good ones though.

• 9:07Speaker 05

Yeah, I mean, we've got Abbeyville Road here. And that's got great restaurants on it, or places you'd like to go.

• 9:14Speaker 06

I feel like you and Miriam Margalise are the people that really, uh, change things for Clapham.

• 9:19Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 9:19Speaker 06

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:20Jessie Ware?

  God, I hope.

• 9:21Speaker 05

Were you here when Nardulis was open?

• 9:23Speaker 06

  No.

• 9:24Jessie Ware?

Was that the ice cream place?

• 9:25Speaker 06

  Is it not open anymore?

• 9:26Speaker 05

No, when it, where was that? Had it opened by then? It's.

• 9:30Jessie Ware?

  In Old Town.

• 9:31Speaker 05

On the pavement in Old Town.

• 9:32Speaker 06

Oh, yeah. Oh, that amazing, right across from the common there.

• 9:35Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 9:36Speaker 06

Oh, I love that place. The best.

• 9:38Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 9:38Speaker 06

Oh, yes, no, I get that a lot.

• 9:40Speaker 05

  It was delicious ice cream.

• 9:42Speaker 06

  Yum.

• 9:42Speaker 05

So which places did you go to in Clapham? Did you go to?

• 9:45Speaker 06

Nothing terribly reputable. It was, I was twenty four at the time. It was.

• 9:49Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 9:50Speaker 06

Probably my heaviest party in gear was my Clapham day. So it was a lot of Infernos.

• 9:57Jessie Ware?

Well, that actually, that's a perfect segue.

• 9:59Speaker 06

  Is it?

• 10:00Speaker 05

  We've got something.

• 10:01Jessie Ware?

  A little gift from us.

• 10:03Speaker 05

Better than an Oscar, we thought.

• 10:05Speaker 06

Oh my gosh, the envelope's beautiful.

• 10:11Speaker 06

I'm gonna read it. This certifies that Margot Robbie is officially recognised as Infernos royalty. Amazing. Entitled to unlimited queue jumps and guaranteed access to our carpeted dance floor, valid forever. Signed with love, Infernos. That is amazing. If I take this to Infernos, are they gonna be like, what the hell is that?

• 10:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 10:29Jessie Ware?

I, I, I think your face will do enough. I think you're fine.

• 10:33Speaker 05

And you can stick to the carpet even more.

• 10:35Speaker 06

Oh, absolutely. I love the carpet.

• 10:37Jessie Ware?

Did you have your, did, did Infernos, the nightclub, which? As a Clapham person, I have always actually avoided, which I love, but I love that.

• 10:46Speaker 06

I understand that. I'm from a place called the Gold Coast in Australia and it's known for surfers paradise.

• 10:51Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 10:51Speaker 06

And like, if you're from the Gold Coast, you don't go to surfers paradise.

• 10:54Jessie Ware?

  Okay, got it.

• 10:54Speaker 06

Well, you did actually when you were eighteen, but then once you got out of that.

• 10:57Jessie Ware?

I would have gone to surfers paradise just for the surfers.

• 10:59Speaker 06

You would think the surfing is actually better elsewhere, I'd say, but it's a big party.

• 11:04Jessie Ware?

  What about the surfers?

• 11:05Speaker 06

Surfers, the surfers everywhere on the Gold Coast. Everyone's a surfer.

• 11:08Jessie Ware?

  Oh, okay, fair enough.

• 11:09Speaker 06

It's like embarrassing if you don't surf.

• 11:11Jessie Ware?

  Oh, okay.

• 11:11Speaker 06

You kind of have to. But no, Inferno's was actually the reason we lived where we lived.

• 11:16Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, I love you.

• 11:17Speaker 06

Because we, um, my, my roommates, uh, who, one of them I'm now married to, but, uh, we end up getting married. But, um, at the time when we were just roommates, we're just mates and a bunch of us, we went to Inferno's and they used to tell me about this place. My, my, the two guys that I now also have a production company with. Anyways, they're like, they're like, Inferno's is the greatest place in the world.

• 11:38Jessie Ware?

But you only had to turn left at the end of Clapham Manor Street.

• 11:41Speaker 06

Well, we didn't live there, but we didn't live there yet. We were doing a job in Belgium where I met them and they said, they would tell me about the infamous Inferno's. Now, like, this place is so fun, you can't get kicked out of there. That's why it's so great. Nothing, you can do anything in Inferno's and you can't get kicked out. And I was like, wow, that sounds like paradise. And so we all, you know, had a weekend in London when the job was done and of course we went to Inferno's and within about fifteen minutes we got kicked out. And while we're getting dragged out by security, I was screaming, but this is Inferno's. I can't get out of Inferno's. And the bouncer was like, look, we allow most things, but when your friend does, mm, then we kick you out. And I was like, okay, fair enough.

• 12:21Jessie Ware?

Have, have you been kicked out of, of many clubs, Margot?

• 12:24Speaker 06

Most of the clubs in Clapham, I'd say, have kicked us out. Yeah. For a while we were banned at a number of places.

• 12:29Jessie Ware?

Did Ca- was Cafe Sol still doing like music?

• 12:32Speaker 06

  Yeah, Cafe Sol.

• 12:33Jessie Ware?

That's where I used to go underage.

• 12:34Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like at noon night, it suddenly changes from like a lounge bar to like.

• 12:38Jessie Ware?

And you stopped eating crocodile nuggets?

• 12:40Speaker 06

So whatever. I mean, it was vodka revs back then.

• 12:44Jessie Ware?

  Oh, yeah.

• 12:44Speaker 06

It was like a random place called like Honky Tonk Bar or like, oh, have you ever been a mosquito bar?

• 12:50Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 12:51Speaker 06

That's, that's, that's when, that's when Inferno's kicks you out, then you go to Mosquito Bar. It's, it's.

• 12:56Jessie Ware?

So then you moved to Clapham Manor Street.

• 12:59Speaker 06

So sorry. Yes, that's, they stay out, yes. I mean, it's revolting, but kind of brilliant. You always end up there.

• 13:05Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 13:06Speaker 06

Yeah, well, I, um, so we, we, uh, ended up all deciding to move in together to finish that story. And, um, I had gone back to America at that point. And so we were looking online and the guys were like, oh, it's a sign. This place is down the road from Inferno. So we literally signed our lease just because it was down the road from Inferno.

• 13:23Jessie Ware?

And did you go swimming at the swimming pool?

• 13:26Speaker 06

The swimming pool. Oh, on, on Manor Street. Yeah, we used to go there.

• 13:29Jessie Ware?

  Me too.

• 13:29Speaker 06

It's lovely, isn't it? Like the leisure centre. And there's a good, um, uh, what was the good pub on the end there?

• 13:37Jessie Ware?

The, the Bro, the Bread and Roses, is it?

• 13:39Speaker 06

No, not, no, next to Bread and Roses, Crafties, Crafties. And then Ston House around the corner.

• 13:44Jessie Ware?

Ston House is really good, yeah. Is that now called, is that called the Pig's Head now, Mum? No. No, Ston House is.

• 13:50Speaker 06

  Still there?

• 13:50Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 13:51Speaker 06

That's good. Yeah, it's been a while. My Clapham days were a long time ago. And then, um, the off licence across from our house was our, you know, we made friends with Johnny. Shout out to Johnny and Neil, who, um, who ran the offy across the road from us.

• 14:03Jessie Ware?

  You then buy first.

• 14:04Speaker 06

They never, they never believed, oh, they'd, they'd come over to our parties. They were great. And they never believed I was famous. I invited them to a, um, premiere one time. When I did a movie with Will Smith. And I was like, Johnny and Neil, I'd love for you to come. I've got a premiere. Do you want to come? And they were like, you? And I was like, yeah, I'm, they're like, in the movie. And I'm like, yeah, I'm in the movie. I showed them the invite and I was like, that's me, that's my face. They're like, it's not you, that's Will Smith. I'm like, that's Will Smith, but next to Will Smith, that's me. And they wouldn't believe me. And I was like, just come to the premiere and see for yourself. They didn't come.

• 14:35Jessie Ware?

  They didn't come?

• 14:36Speaker 06

They know now, they know now that I.

• 14:38Jessie Ware?

Yeah, kind of a big deal.

• 14:39Speaker 06

That I work, that I work in the movies. And sometimes we go back and visit, just to say hi.

• 14:42Jessie Ware?

  I love that.

• 14:43Speaker 06

  Yeah, it's lovely.

• 14:43Jessie Ware?

Um, you, you spend some time in UK still, don't you? In London?

• 14:47Speaker 06

I'm here a lot, actually, because things shoot here so often.

• 14:51Jessie Ware?

  That's nice.

• 14:51Speaker 06

And so it's, I know it's perfect. So I, I end up back here and then you're like here for a long stretch, you know, when we did Barbie, I was back for like a year.

• 14:59Jessie Ware?

  Oh, did you shoot?

• 15:00Speaker 06

For Wuthering Heights, we were, yeah, shot that whole thing here. I mean, we did some. We did a couple of weeks on location in California in L A. Oh, yeah, the rollerblading. The rollerblading and all that. Hard to, hard to mimic that in the old common. But, uh, yeah. And then, and then Wuthering Heights, we shot here. Where did you shoot Wuthering Heights? At Elstree, Sky Elstree Studios. And then we went up for the location stuff to the Moors in Yorkshire. I mean, it was so.

• 15:25Speaker 05

But they made it look different, almost more dystopian.

• 15:28Speaker 06

What, the sets? Yeah. Yeah, it was like Emerald, our director Emerald Fennell, wanted it to feel like a old, like a fifties melodrama. Like a, like a stage movie. Like she wanted it to feel like you were on stages.

• 15:42Speaker 05

  Like on a set.

• 15:43Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah. So it's like a slightly surreal. Yeah. World, slightly heightened, more heightened when you go to Thrush Cross Grange. Yeah. And it's still heightened at Wuthering Heights in a different way. And then, of course, with location, we were like, well, we have to go to Yorkshire. That's where the book takes place.

• 15:57Speaker 05

  We had Emerald here.

• 15:58Speaker 06

Did you? Yeah, years ago. Oh, my gosh, she told me. Yeah, she was amazing. Lovely. Yeah. Oh, she's. She's fab. I know.

• 16:05Speaker 05

  She's amazing.

• 16:06Speaker 06

Well, the reason, do you know, she's actually in Barbie as well. She's Midge, the pregnant Barbie. Because when we were doing Promising Young Woman, so we've produced all three of her films, and the first one was Promising Young Woman. And she was like seven months pregnant when we started that job. So she was like, had the baby right after we wrapped sort of thing. So, I mean, she's superhuman. But, uh, then when she was winning her Oscar for that screenplay, she was pregnant again. And I remember Greta being like, it's like she's always pregnant. And then when we were like, we, she, Greta was like, I've got an idea. Let's ask Emerald to be the permanently pregnant Barbie in Barbie, um, because of that. And, you know, they, they, you know, like, love each other.

• 16:49Speaker 06

And, and, and so Emerald, and we were shooting Saltburn right as we wrapped Barbie. And so my first A D, who was Andy, our first A D on Mothering Two, would be calling me being like, we've got to do tech checks and you've got Emerald coming in to be this pregnant Barbie. Like this is, we need to be pregnant, Sultan. And I was like, I know, both are important, both are important. But probably Sultan is more important for her.

• 17:10Speaker 05

Margot, you've had a few gorgeous leading men.

• 17:13Speaker 06

I, I've been quite lucky at my time.

• 17:14Speaker 05

  Out, my god.

• 17:15Speaker 06

You know what? The thing that I've really appreciated about this, um.

• 17:21Jessie Ware?

  Interpretation of Wuthering Heights.

• 17:23Speaker 06

  Was the sex.

• 17:23Jessie Ware?

  The sex that they introduced.

• 17:25Speaker 06

Cause you don't get that in the book.

• 17:27Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 17:30Jessie Ware?

I'm reading it at the moment, cause I want, I'd never read it.

• 17:33Speaker 06

  Me neither.

• 17:33Jessie Ware?

  Like, I, and it's fantastic.

• 17:36Speaker 06

  It's.

• 17:36Jessie Ware?

God, that Emily, she's talented, that Emily.

• 17:41Speaker 06

But don't you think it's like, I can't believe that book was written in that time, like in eighteen hundreds. They would have been shocked, but it's also just the structure of it's so interesting and, yeah, and she was twenty seven when she.

• 17:55Jessie Ware?

  Wow.

• 17:55Speaker 06

  Wrote it. And she was.

• 17:57Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 17:57Speaker 06

Dead by the time she was thirty.

• 17:59Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 17:59Speaker 06

Do you become best friends with all your lovers on screen? I kind of become really good friends with.

• 18:04Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 18:04Speaker 06

Everyone I work with. Like, you spend so much time together, like, day in, day out, and you're all. It's like you're at this summer camp and you're all, I don't know, you all become friends. Not, not, not always, not everyone, but. Kind of everyone, and especially on this job too, like, it was such a good gang that, yeah, you just do, um, it's, it's sad when a job.

• 18:26Jessie Ware?

But I also think that's probably due to how you want your sets to.

• 18:30Speaker 06

  Yes.

• 18:31Jessie Ware?

Be, because, you know, everyone that talks about Margot Robbie says, what a laugh you are, how talented and what a great person you are to work with and all of this, right? But you're creating this environment, right? Because you're the producer.

• 18:43Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 18:44Jessie Ware?

  And you're heavily involved, so.

• 18:46Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 18:46Jessie Ware?

Do you feel like you are a leader in those, on those sets that you are producing and starring in?

• 18:53Speaker 06

Yeah, and I just don't agree that you have to all be tormented in order to make.

• 18:57Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 18:57Speaker 06

Art. I think there's like a weird misconception that if it's not this tortured experience, nothing great's gonna come out of it. And I've been on sets that feel very tense and not fun, and there's a lot of that tortured artist vibe happening, and the film wasn't that good.

• 19:12Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 19:12Speaker 06

And then I've been on sets that are an absolute delight, joyful every day, and the film is excellent.

• 19:19Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 19:19Speaker 06

So it's like, why not just all have a good time? I don't think people need to be miserable to make good art.

• 19:25Jessie Ware?

Do you think you learnt that from kind of more negative experiences, or did you learn from somebody that you felt like, I like how they, like. Lead a gang, or do you think it was from your family? I don't know.

• 19:36Speaker 06

I don't know. I think I just like. You know, I've been working for a really long, I mean, I've been doing this full time since I was seventeen on Neighbours.

• 19:47Speaker 05

  Was that a happy ship?

• 19:49Speaker 06

Oh, the best. I had the best. And look, sure, I'm sure, I'm sure some people didn't enjoy their time on Neighbours, but I had the best time ever and everyone I worked with seemed to be.

• 19:59Speaker 06

No, Madge wasn't, wasn't with us at that point.

• 20:02Jessie Ware?

But Harold, Harold was around, yeah, yeah.

• 20:04Speaker 06

Tody, Dr Carl, the whole gang. Um, no, I had the best time ever, but you, you, you know, I quickly recognised that I was always gonna be spending the majority of my life on set and I don't want the majority of my life to be unhappy. I wanna I wanna be happy and have a great time and do what I love. And if I can do it all at the same, you know, at the same time.

• 20:25Speaker 05

Does the pathing drive you mad? You know, you've got to get the hair right and the makeup.

• 20:30Speaker 06

What are you making, by the way?

• 20:32Jessie Ware?

  Oh, yeah.

• 20:32Speaker 06

  So good.

• 20:33Jessie Ware?

  It does smell good, mum.

• 20:34Speaker 06

Oh, it does smell very. Yeah, I've been squeezing into these dresses.

• 20:39Jessie Ware?

No, yeah, god, no, you can let it all out today, Margot, and eat all, everything.

• 20:43Speaker 06

No, I wore a comfy outfit.

• 20:45Jessie Ware?

  This is very fabulous.

• 20:46Speaker 05

  Is it Chanel?

• 20:47Speaker 06

  It is Chanel.

• 20:48Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, I just love you're in a little lounge Chanel number.

• 20:51Speaker 06

  Comfy.

• 20:52Jessie Ware?

Will you, will you keep that one?

• 20:53Speaker 06

  Glorified pyjamas.

• 20:54Jessie Ware?

  Will you keep that one?

• 20:55Speaker 06

No, I have to give everything back.

• 20:56Speaker 05

Why? It looks so nice on you.

• 20:58Speaker 06

Every time you wear something, you have to give it back. I know. Chanel are good to me. They do, they send me a lot of bags and whatnot.

• 21:04Speaker 05

  Are you wearing Chanel tomorrow?

• 21:06Speaker 06

I am not wearing Chanel tomorrow. Do you mean to the premiere?

• 21:10Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 21:11Speaker 06

So, wait, premiere's not tomorrow, I think it's the night after. But no, I am, I'm wearing Delara. I can never say her last name. Do you know this really cool designer? Delara Di.

• 21:22Jessie Ware?

Is she the one that won the British Fashion Awards?

• 21:24Speaker 06

  I think she did.

• 21:25Jessie Ware?

Yes, and she did that incredible, like, stained cherry outfit, yeah.

• 21:28Speaker 06

Like, an artist. Anyways, she's made me a dress made out of hair.

• 21:33Jessie Ware?

  Oh, wow.

• 21:34Speaker 06

  Out of hair.

• 21:35Jessie Ware?

  Who's hair?

• 21:36Speaker 06

So, um, I'm hoping fake hair, I'm hoping it's not real person hair, but it's, uh, you know, it was fitting for the movie. So at the start of, did you see the movie?

• 21:46Jessie Ware?

Yes, yeah, yes. Yes, and I loved, we loved it.

• 21:49Speaker 06

Not got over it yet. Oh, no, it's quite, it's quite something. Um.

• 21:53Jessie Ware?

We, me and Alice were just looking at each other like, this is, this, this is just what we needed on a Friday morning. Thank you so much.

• 21:59Speaker 06

  What you need.

• 22:00Jessie Ware?

  I really enjoyed it.

• 22:01Speaker 06

I know, me too. I love it. I think people are gonna just have a good time. Anyways, do you remember the, this, the opening credits?

• 22:07Jessie Ware?

And, and it's, it's a better kind of, yeah.

• 22:10Speaker 06

It's kind of, so that's actually my hair that then they replicated and did this stop, like Emerald was, we were on the street in Soho and she was like, I need some of your hair. And I was like, all right. And I just ripped it out and like gave her a little bit of hair. And she was like, well, what am I gonna do with this? I was like, you just asked for it. And she was like, well, not now. I have to walk through Soho with just clutching your hair.

• 22:31Jessie Ware?

  Did you?

• 22:32Speaker 06

Just like five strands or something, not too much. Anyways, um, so she put it in her pocket and then went and worked with this stop animation and they kind of replicated it and the opening, yeah, that Wuthering Heights thing is with my hair.

• 22:42Jessie Ware?

  I think that's what.

• 22:43Speaker 06

So we're tying it in with the dress.

• 22:45Jessie Ware?

But that's what I found so interesting. I think we, everyone, I didn't know what to expect. You, we've seen the poster. It looks very, you know, it's passionate. It's you two looking into each other's eyes. We've heard some of the music by Charlie. And then that opening shot of, I don't wanna give anything away.

• 23:03Speaker 06

  It's crazy opening though.

• 23:04Jessie Ware?

It's fantastic. And I was like.

• 23:06Speaker 06

And then you're like, you're like, oh, yeah.

• 23:09Jessie Ware?

Okay, this is the way we're going.

• 23:10Speaker 06

Yeah, it's a bit of a tone setter. It's a bit of like a shock to the system and also like buckle up. This is the movie you're in.

• 23:18Jessie Ware?

But I really, I was excited by that. It was really, it was fantastic.

• 23:22Speaker 06

I know, and Charlie's song to it is like.

• 23:25Jessie Ware?

  It was fantastic.

• 23:25Speaker 06

It kind of gets your blood pumping in a way.

• 23:28Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, I got goosebumps.

• 23:28Speaker 06

Yeah, it's so, it's so unexpected and I, I just, I think she's done something really amazing with her album and all the music she's put into the movie. But that song in particular, I, cause I was like, oh, what are we gonna open with? You use temp music and stuff and. And then when she came, like when she sent us that, the John Cale voice, I was like.

• 23:49Jessie Ware?

  Throbbing.

• 23:50Speaker 06

Whoa, it was literally throbbing. It was perfect and unexpected.

• 23:54Speaker 05

I'm going to give you something to eat.

• 23:55Speaker 06

  Oh bless you.

• 23:56Speaker 05

  It must be starving.

• 23:57Speaker 06

Thank you, thank you. Yeah, the, the, and then the score, Anthony Willis, who's just incredible.

• 24:03Speaker 05

Jessie, you take charge of this.

• 24:05Speaker 06

His score's quite classical, you know, it's like, it's like a proper movie score, movie score. So blending, actually blending it all together was a fun challenge. No, go on. Is this the ASMR part of the show where everyone's like.

• 24:18Jessie Ware?

No, that's when you start slopping salmon in your mouth there. Well, speaking of fish.

• 24:23Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 24:23Jessie Ware?

There's a very visceral shot in the, um.

• 24:26Speaker 06

  There is indeed.

• 24:27Jessie Ware?

Was that your idea or Emerald's?

• 24:29Speaker 05

  Emerald, Emerald.

• 24:30Jessie Ware?

Is she a filthy bitch, Emerald?

• 24:31Speaker 06

  She is and she is.

• 24:32Jessie Ware?

She obviously is and I love it.

• 24:33Speaker 06

Grills to be referred to as such, to be honest. She, um, she tested probably fifty fish before we shot that. She wanted the exact right consistency with the jelly. Thank you.

• 24:44Speaker 05

  This, do you like fennel?

• 24:45Speaker 06

  Yeah, I love fennel.

• 24:47Jessie Ware?

  This is delicious, Mum.

• 24:48Speaker 05

  Is it?

• 24:49Jessie Ware?

The candied orange or whatever, delicious.

• 24:52Speaker 06

  Tell us, what is it?

• 24:53Speaker 05

It's salmon with, right, so it's salmon, I made citrus vodka.

• 24:59Speaker 06

  Hmm.

• 25:00Speaker 05

Cause I know you, you know.

• 25:01Speaker 06

Yeah, it's a bit of a reputation to have.

• 25:03Speaker 05

Yeah, um, so citrus vodka and clementines and orange juice and honey. And that's you, and then you put it on the top with dill. So I hope it does taste.

• 25:15Jessie Ware?

  It's really good, Mum.

• 25:16Speaker 05

  Is it?

• 25:17Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 25:18Speaker 06

  That is phenomenal.

• 25:18Jessie Ware?

I may do this for Shabbat's dinner on Friday.

• 25:21Speaker 06

So you're a good cook too, Jessie?

• 25:22Speaker 05

  Hmm, yeah.

• 25:22Jessie Ware?

Yeah, I'm nicer than me, I think.

• 25:24Speaker 06

  Really?

• 25:25Jessie Ware?

I'm not, I just, I'm invested in eating.

• 25:27Speaker 06

Love, I'm very invested in eating, but I'm a terrible cook.

• 25:30Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 25:30Speaker 06

  Hmm.

• 25:31Jessie Ware?

Can you tell us about a memorable dish from your childhood? And like, who was around the dinner table and what were you eating?

• 25:38Speaker 06

I've got a lot of siblings and, um, my mum is a terrible cook and she won't mind me saying that.

• 25:45Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 25:46Speaker 06

She's aware and I'm a terrible cook and we both just know that this is our shortcoming in life. Um, so no, no one was ever like, oh mum, please make that.

• 25:55Jessie Ware?

  Right.

• 25:55Speaker 06

But very simple food, pretty much everything was accompanied by mashed potatoes. So it was either, you know, bangers and mash, risols and mash. Spaghetti bolognese too.

• 26:06Jessie Ware?

  With mash?

• 26:07Speaker 06

No, not, not, didn't double up on the carbs there.

• 26:09Jessie Ware?

Did you like your mum's spaghetti bolognese?

• 26:11Speaker 06

I, I just love spaghetti bolognese. I love, I love anyone's spaghetti bolognese. And I love it when people make you spaghetti bolognese, cause everyone does it different. And it's kinda like a, yeah, it's like a little personal thing they're sharing with you. But my husband is a phenomenal cook.

• 26:28Jessie Ware?

  Well done, well done.

• 26:30Speaker 06

He could be a chef if he wanted to. He's so good. So it's, yeah, we're like a perfect match. I love to eat, my love to cook. Do you know what? I didn't know he was a good cook until after we got married.

• 26:41Jessie Ware?

How long you lived together? What were you eating?

• 26:44Speaker 06

Yeah, but we were not, this was a share house with seven people crammed into a four bedroom share house in Clapham. So there was not, the kitchen was not used for cooking. The kitchen was used for body shots and whatnot, but. So I didn't even know he was a good cook. And then we were married and, you know, finally lived, our roommates were finally like, we shouldn't all live together. It's weird now that you guys are married.

• 27:05Jessie Ware?

Oh, you were still, when you got married and then you stayed in the pasture.

• 27:09Speaker 06

And then we kept living with our roommates. Not in Clapham, we moved to Shepherd's Bush. And then, um, yeah, then our roommates were like, it's kinda weird that you're still living with roommates when you're married. And we're like, is it? It doesn't feel weird. And they're like, yeah, you guys should try living on your own. We're like, okay. And then we went and lived on our own and, um.

• 27:26Jessie Ware?

And that's when you started cooking?

• 27:28Speaker 06

Yeah, then he started cooking and my god, he's really good at it. Um.

• 27:32Jessie Ware?

What's Tom, what's, what's the dish that like you, you would, if we were coming over to yours, you'd be like, make that.

• 27:40Speaker 06

I think a fun one for guests is when he makes like this like, um, like lamb kebabs. Because it's like you get your hands into it and it's like, he cooks it on the big green egg. And then he makes like different chili jams and then it's like all the accompaniments. Does a pitter in like bread in like, in the gosnay and he's got all the kit.

• 27:57Jessie Ware?

  I love a gosnay.

• 27:59Speaker 06

  He loves the kit.

• 28:00Jessie Ware?

At least he knows how to use his egg.

• 28:01Speaker 06

He absolutely does. Oh, you know, I, I, he'll crawl into bed at like three A M sometimes and I'll smell like it. I'm like, I'm like, you've been with the egg, haven't you? I'm like, what are you, what are you doing down there? So some brisket, sixteen hour brisket on the way. I know, I love it. He gets up in the night.

• 28:19Jessie Ware?

You can smoke a brisket, yeah, mum, that's the thing.

• 28:23Speaker 06

This might revolutionize the, the show.

• 28:25Jessie Ware?

But my husband, god love him, he's cute. He's a lovely, great dad. He shit on a barbecue and he thinks he's good.

• 28:33Speaker 06

  Oh, oh no.

• 28:34Jessie Ware?

No, it's a shame. He thinks he's quite good.

• 28:37Speaker 06

  Should he gently?

• 28:38Jessie Ware?

No, no, don't worry, I do, Margot. No, I mean, I just go, let me do it.

• 28:43Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 28:43Jessie Ware?

But bless him. But yeah, the, I think the egg is very hard to master, so respect.

• 28:47Speaker 06

Oh, no, no, you've got to have a lot of patience. This is my problem, this is why I can't cook, I've got no patience.

• 28:51Jessie Ware?

  Really?

• 28:52Speaker 06

I just try and shortcut it and then something lights on fire and it's.

• 28:55Jessie Ware?

But you know what's been really good for me, because I am also really impatient.

• 28:58Speaker 06

  Mm.

• 28:59Jessie Ware?

And sourdough has been like my yoga. I don't love making it, but it does something to me where I know.

• 29:06Speaker 06

  Kind of therapeutic.

• 29:06Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 29:07Speaker 06

Hmm. Yeah. Yeah, I've never found that zen space in the kitchen.

• 29:10Jessie Ware?

  Fair enough.

• 29:11Speaker 06

  I'd like to, though.

• 29:12Jessie Ware?

So mum wasn't a great cook.

• 29:15Speaker 06

Mum was not a great cook.

• 29:16Jessie Ware?

Who was around the dinner table?

• 29:19Speaker 06

I've got two brothers and a sister, so us four and mum. And, uh, no, she wasn't a great cook.

• 29:28Speaker 06

And she was like, you know, a single working mum with four kids, so quite busy. So it was just kind of like. She's a physiotherapist.

• 29:35Jessie Ware?

  Oh, wow.

• 29:36Speaker 06

Oh, wow. She worked at, um, yeah, special schools with kids with disabilities. She's an angel.

• 29:41Jessie Ware?

I want to talk about your aunt.

• 29:43Speaker 06

  Okay.

• 29:44Jessie Ware?

Is it aunt, aunt Mez, Mezzy?

• 29:46Speaker 06

  Mezzy?

• 29:46Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 29:47Speaker 06

  How do you know Mezzy?

• 29:47Jessie Ware?

Well, I don't know it. I don't know Mezzy. I'd love to know Mezzy.

• 29:51Speaker 06

  Oh, Mezzy's a great time.

• 29:52Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, no.

• 29:53Speaker 06

Mez is a hoot and you would love her.

• 29:55Jessie Ware?

This is why I wanted to talk about it, because I listened to you on a podcast and you talked about Aunt Mezzy and it sounded so gorgeous. So I felt like, you know, it's about family and food and I felt like Aunt Mezzy needed a shout out.

• 30:05Speaker 06

Mezzy should always get a shout out. JMo Mez, so my Uncle JMo, my Aunt Mez. I've been, you know, married since they were teenagers, I think. Um, very Australian. Like, my accent is very, very, very neutralized, I would say, but.

• 30:22Jessie Ware?

  Now.

• 30:22Speaker 06

  Yes, now, but.

• 30:23Jessie Ware?

  Was it stronger before?

• 30:25Speaker 06

Oh, my God, it was, it was terrible. I, when I went on, when I started on Neighbours, I did not sound anything like this. When I started on Neighbours, they got me a dialect coach. My accent was too Australian.

• 30:39Jessie Ware?

Can you give us a a an old Margot accent?

• 30:43Speaker 06

  No, I don't even know.

• 30:44Jessie Ware?

Have you like, have you taken it out of your mind? Like, you can't ever go back there?

• 30:47Speaker 06

Thing is, I didn't know I had a strong accent. I thought I sounded totally fine. So I can't even hear what it was. And my my younger brother. Um, found like a video online not that long ago and he sent it to me and it was with my, you know, as well as on Neighbours. And I honestly, I was like, that's not how I spoke. That is terrible. And that's after the accent coaching. And I was like, yeah, I know, not like, it's just so bad. I can't, I can't even. Yeah, it was really, really Australian. But Aunt Mezzy, but Aunt Mezzy. Aunt Mezzy is just the best. Aunt Mezzy loves a rum and coke, loves doing a crossword. Yeah, she can bake. I'd say the best cook. No, the best cook in my life really is Tom.

• 31:32Speaker 06

But I would say, um, you know, meals are always the thing that brings everyone together, isn't it?

• 31:36Speaker 05

What's his spag bol secret ingredient?

• 31:38Speaker 06

Oh, yeah. He spends two days making it.

• 31:40Jessie Ware?

Oh, my god, he's that guy.

• 31:42Speaker 06

  He's a two-day spag bol.

• 31:43Jessie Ware?

Do you mind? Is it? Are you just like, babe, I just wanted spag bol two days ago?

• 31:48Speaker 06

Yeah, no, I every time I'm like, I I'll just eat it like this. Like, I honestly don't mind. It's gonna taste brilliant to me. He does a three-day fried rice. It's really, really makes you wait with like this Korean short rib with it. Oh, it's unbelievable.

• 32:01Jessie Ware?

  What?

• 32:02Speaker 06

And he does steak better than.

• 32:05Jessie Ware?

  Oh, god.

• 32:05Speaker 06

Restaurant I've ever been to. Steak, I'd say is his.

• 32:08Jessie Ware?

Okay, so what's his trick that he does?

• 32:10Speaker 06

  I don't know, just.

• 32:12Jessie Ware?

You're useless, Margot. This is unhealthful.

• 32:14Speaker 06

I mean, listen, I know he puts it in the oven and then does a reverse sear on in a in a skillet pan.

• 32:19Jessie Ware?

  In the oven?

• 32:21Speaker 06

And he does oven oven first at the moment and then reverse sear. And he puts like butter and rosemary and stuff. In the pan, yells it, and then pours it over the steak. Yeah.

• 32:31Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, okay.

• 32:31Speaker 06

  Yeah, yeah. And it's banging.

• 32:33Jessie Ware?

So if if, okay, we weren't coming around to yours, but we're probably are because it sounds delicious.

• 32:37Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 32:38Jessie Ware?

Where are you eating? Where are some of your spots that you never go wrong?

• 32:44Speaker 06

  Like restaurants?

• 32:44Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 32:46Speaker 06

Do you know what I love? I love Thai food and Chinese food.

• 32:48Jessie Ware?

  Mm, me too.

• 32:49Speaker 06

Oh. We have a lot of Thai and Chinese in Australia and I know Indians probably the bigger. Go to here in England, but.

• 32:57Speaker 05

Have you got a house in Australia too?

• 32:59Speaker 06

Um, no, but I wanna live back there one day. I just stay at my mum's house.

• 33:05Jessie Ware?

As we do, we all come home in there.

• 33:07Speaker 06

  Do.

• 33:08Jessie Ware?

I think it would be really, I, I, I have no reason to live in Australia, but I do think it would be a really beautiful place to bring up kids.

• 33:14Speaker 06

Um, yeah, just like going to the beach and everything's outdoors. Like, I asked Tom. You know, when I hear about his childhood, I'm like, and what would you do after school? He'd be like, oh, we'd just, you know. Crowd around the radiator and play video games. I was like, that sounds so miserable. He's like, yeah, it was just cold all the time. And I was like, oh. He's like, what would you do? And I'm like, we'd build a rope swing and jump into rivers. Like, it was just like.

• 33:37Jessie Ware?

  Wow.

• 33:37Speaker 06

  Oh, Jesse watched Neighbours.

• 33:39Jessie Ware?

  I watched Neighbours.

• 33:42Jessie Ware?

You got an idea of it then. So tell me, where's, where's the Chinese spot that you're going right now?

• 33:46Speaker 06

  Take us to.

• 33:47Jessie Ware?

  My go to is Mingjiang.

• 33:48Speaker 06

  Where is it?

• 33:49Jessie Ware?

I've never actually been there. I just get it on Deliveroo.

• 33:52Speaker 06

  Oh, okay.

• 33:52Jessie Ware?

Travels well. Do you know what's crazy about Deliveroo?

• 33:55Speaker 06

  What?

• 33:57Jessie Ware?

It gets to your house so fast. In America, we've got something called Postmates.

• 34:01Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 34:02Jessie Ware?

  Hopeless.

• 34:03Speaker 06

But you're waiting like seventy minutes.

• 34:05Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 34:05Speaker 06

Here, sometimes I order like my Chinese and it's at the door seven minutes later. I'm like, how is that even possible?

• 34:11Jessie Ware?

You know what I tried yesterday?

• 34:13Speaker 06

  What?

• 34:13Jessie Ware?

Like a fad trend TikTok thing.

• 34:16Speaker 06

  Mm.

• 34:16Jessie Ware?

I did the viral, um, dumpling lasagna. Babe, it's really good.

• 34:22Speaker 06

  A dumpling lasagna?

• 34:23Jessie Ware?

Yeah, you make like the insides of a dumpling. My kids are obsessed with soup dumplings and dumplings.

• 34:28Speaker 06

  Love soup dumplings.

• 34:29Jessie Ware?

When my four year old is sad, I go, would you like me to do dumplings for dinner? And he goes, yeah, like that. Anyway, so I did. I did, um, I mean, no, it's who do fabulous ones in the freezer. They're fabulous. But anyway, this you get. It's pork mince, you put some spring onions, ginger, garlic, soy mirin. And then you just layer with like gyozou or wonton wrappers on top. And it's like that. And then you pour some, um, water and, and then you steam it on the hob. Babe, delicious. Everyone ate it.

• 34:59Speaker 06

  Heaven.

• 35:00Jessie Ware?

So like, and it worked. It was fab. Very exciting, very fun. All the kids ate it.

• 35:05Speaker 06

Like, maybe I could pull that off.

• 35:07Jessie Ware?

  You could pull it off.

• 35:08Speaker 06

If I was to ever have a cooking show or cookbook or something. I was, I always thought I'd call it Bogan's Delight. And it would be all the Bogan things that I grew up eating. Which are very, very simple things to make. Even someone like me can't go wrong. It's delicious. I was very much a Bogan growing up, though I did not realise it at the time. But we have, you know, classic Bogan things, like in our house. Well, first of all, which is quite bogan, but also makes me think of home. We have five Cs. Which means at five o'clock, you sit and have your, like a little cheese board, but it's not a fancy. I think that's quite chic. I know it sounds chic, but when you look at it, it's, it's, it's cool. We have like a bowl of nuts and bolts, which is just like an assortment of like.

• 35:51Speaker 06

Been a nutrigrain in there, a curry, Mezzi makes actually, Mezzi makes the best nuts and bolts. You've got like certain nuts, but mainly you've got cereal in there and like some. Dried like Asian noodles and then like a curry sauce over it. Do you have anything like this here? Hang on, hang on, it's not a dry, it's, it's not a dry. Like nibbly sort of thing. So like Bombay mix.

• 36:11Speaker 05

  It's not like Bombay mix.

• 36:12Speaker 06

Alright, sure. Yeah, maybe that's it.

• 36:14Speaker 05

So you have it, it's habit.

• 36:16Speaker 06

Oh, yeah, I have it at five Cs. So five Cs is nuts and bolts? Five Cs is nuts and bolts, crackers and cheese. Yeah.

• 36:24Speaker 05

  Before your dinner, your tea?

• 36:26Speaker 06

Well, here's where we're gonna fall out. I'm Australian.

• 36:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 36:30Speaker 06

It's always, cheese is always before dinner. Cheese, like, it, I cannot have cheese after a meal. It's so, it's like starting. So housewives again, that's very housewives. Yeah, cheese board before your meal. So what would be on your cheese board? What cheese? Well, if I'm back home, I'd have barbecue saffron tars. Pardon? And just, yeah, it's like a, it's like a rice cracker.

• 36:54Speaker 05

It's like you're speaking a different language, language.

• 36:57Speaker 06

Barbecue saffron tars and just classic, like just cheddar cheese on that. And on top of that. Hmm. I'd cut a cocktail onion in half and pop that on top. That would be my favorite.

• 37:07Speaker 05

And this is what people have every evening?

• 37:09Speaker 06

This is what we have at five.

• 37:11Speaker 05

What time do you eat then?

• 37:13Speaker 06

I don't know, whenever, whenever it's ready. And now in our house, it often would be late because things were quite disorganized, but.

• 37:19Speaker 05

  But your mum was working.

• 37:21Speaker 06

  Yeah, exactly.

• 37:21Speaker 05

So it's like you making your own little snack before dinner?

• 37:24Speaker 06

Yeah. But it's also like a family thing. You have a rum and coke, five Cs and nuts and bolts. When did you start with rum and cokes? How old were you when you started? Twelve. I love this. My mum used to, um. In order to get us to sit, I don't know if I'd share this.

• 37:41Jessie Ware?

  Share it.

• 37:43Speaker 06

She used to give us Calora Milk so that we'd do our homework.

• 37:46Jessie Ware?

Oh my god, I love it.

• 37:48Speaker 06

Jessie, this is where you're going wrong.

• 37:50Jessie Ware?

  No, I love it.

• 37:51Speaker 06

Because we're doing running around like maniacs and mom was in Calora Milk.

• 37:55Jessie Ware?

  She drunk you.

• 37:55Speaker 06

She was like, sit at the bench and do your homework. When do Australians?

• 38:00Jessie Ware?

  She's giving you White Russians.

• 38:02Speaker 06

And I love a White Russian, it's probably why.

• 38:04Jessie Ware?

  There you go.

• 38:05Speaker 06

When do Australians start to drink coffee, what age do you think? Coffee? Well, I always drank tea. I like, I can't live without a cup of tea.

• 38:20Speaker 07

• 40:48Speaker 06

Oh, is this got a star anise in here? Oh, yeah, sorry. Love.

• 40:51Jessie Ware?

And she said she doesn't cook.

• 40:53Speaker 06

I know. Well, do you know what I do do at Christmas time? Jamie Oliver's recipe, mulled wine recipe, which does have a little bit of star anise in it. So that's why I know what that is. Just a humble brag.

• 41:04Jessie Ware?

You're on the cocktails then. That's your bit.

• 41:08Speaker 06

Cheese board and cocktails, that's what I do.

• 41:09Jessie Ware?

I think that's a really vital component to a host.

• 41:13Speaker 06

Absolutely. And your best cocktail? I mean, I do make a really good mulled wine, because I just follow Jamie's recipe and I don't make any shortcuts. I don't mess that up. I'm pretty, do you know what? I made a martini for my friend the other day. I love a martini.

• 41:28Jessie Ware?

Me too. How'd you take yours?

• 41:29Speaker 06

I do mine dirty with gin.

• 41:31Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, how dirty?

• 41:33Speaker 06

Not terribly dirty, not filthy, but dirty.

• 41:36Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 41:36Speaker 06

Like Christina Aguilera, three hours in the dirty. But my friend has hers vodka and with a twist, and I made it for the other day. She said it's the best martini she's ever had.

• 41:45Jessie Ware?

  Oh, wow. Congratulations.

• 41:47Speaker 06

And I was like, did you mean that? Because I'm really taking that to heart. And she's like, I meant that. And do you use your own gin? Yeah.

• 41:52Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 41:53Speaker 06

  Papa.

• 41:54Jessie Ware?

  Papa.

• 41:54Speaker 06

Why is it called Papa Salt? Well, because we... We're travelling in Sri Lanka.

• 42:00Jessie Ware?

Oh, wow. Why are you travelling there?

• 42:02Speaker 06

  Just why not?

• 42:05Jessie Ware?

  Okay, great.

• 42:05Speaker 05

  I'm going on Friday.

• 42:07Speaker 06

Oh, you're to Sri Lanka? Where are you going?

• 42:09Speaker 05

Everywhere, I think. Starting off with Colombo, Dambula, um, Kandalana, Kandy.

• 42:16Speaker 06

  Yep.

• 42:19Speaker 05

  Um, so we're doing.

• 42:20Speaker 06

I hope you find your way to a place called Hirakati.

• 42:23Jessie Ware?

  My favourite place.

• 42:24Speaker 06

  Oh my, isn't it amazing?

• 42:25Jessie Ware?

Did you go to the cocktail bar there?

• 42:28Speaker 06

I don't remember though, but we went everywhere there.

• 42:30Jessie Ware?

  Hirakati is the best.

• 42:32Speaker 06

And, and if you like learning to surf, or you like to surf, but you don't surf like.

• 42:36Jessie Ware?

I feel like I was Kelly Slater back.

• 42:37Speaker 06

I, you can get away for like five minutes. I mean, the paddling's a bit of a pain because you're just paddling.

• 42:42Jessie Ware?

Oh no, I had somebody pushing me.

• 42:44Speaker 06

  What?

• 42:46Speaker 05

But you paid someone to push you?

• 42:48Jessie Ware?

  Pushed me.

• 42:49Speaker 05

  Bloody hell.

• 42:52Jessie Ware?

  They were tiny.

• 42:53Speaker 06

Okay, so it's the fucking surf, it's paradise.

• 42:56Speaker 05

  Don't tell Mini Driver that.

• 42:57Jessie Ware?

I'm a Jewish princess, you're lucky that I'm even gaining the water.

• 43:00Speaker 05

I can't believe you've got someone pushing you out. Isn't that the whole point of the experience, to schlep out there?

• 43:06Jessie Ware?

Okay, Lenny, let's see you get on a board in Hirakati or a hangar.

• 43:10Speaker 05

Be going on a Hirakati board, darling.

• 43:12Speaker 06

  Honestly, I think you should.

• 43:13Speaker 05

I honestly think I should do.

• 43:15Speaker 06

They're gentle waves, and you catch them for a long time, so it's satisfying.

• 43:18Speaker 05

How do you stand up on it?

• 43:19Speaker 06

  Easy, you just pop up.

• 43:20Speaker 05

  Yeah, pop up.

• 43:21Speaker 06

  Pop on up.

• 43:22Speaker 05

I, I'm a long time away from popping up anywhere, darling. A long time.

• 43:26Jessie Ware?

  You don't pop anymore?

• 43:27Speaker 05

  Don't pop.

• 43:29Jessie Ware?

God, it's such a good place.

• 43:30Speaker 06

It's so great. It was heaven being there.

• 43:32Jessie Ware?

  The food gorgeous.

• 43:33Speaker 06

Oh, yeah. Great food. Well, there's this, there's this place called The Doctor's House. Did you go to The Doctor's House? So if you went like further down the beach, like ten minutes, there's this really cool, a lot of expats hang out at this place called The Doctor's House. At least when we were there, which is many years ago now. But we, we were at The Doctor's House and we ended up drinking with these Aussie guys who are from the Gold Coast, which is where I'm from. Like, oh yeah, Gold Coast, Gold Coast, blah, blah, blah. And we're like, what, what brings you guys? Are you here for surfing? They're like, no, we own this place. This is our bar. And we were like, sick. And then we, they were like, it was New Year's Eve, and they were like, kick on with us, come meet my dad, Papa Salt, he's a real character, everyone loves him. And we were like, of course. And so we went and, um, spent the rest of New Year's Eve with them and Papa Salt. And Papa Salt is this like,

• 44:14Speaker 06

he looks like Santa Claus on a, like on a summer holiday, like Hawaiian shirt, white beard, and he's like. A proper pirate, like he's been shipwrecked three times, like he's just full of stories. Doesn't really have a set address, just kind of like pops from island to island, just living life and. We just, we just had this great night and we like loved him and then years later, we, you know, we made this gin and then it came time to naming it. And we were like, oh, we were trying to come up, it's like getting a tattoo, like if you take it too seriously, it's kind of cringe.

• 44:45Speaker 05

  Have you got any tattoos?

• 44:46Speaker 06

Only silly ones, which is what I really believe in. And so if it's funny and it reminds you of something, then it's not cringe. And so we were like. It's called Papa Salt, cause it will always make us laugh, it'll make us think of that.

• 44:58Speaker 06

I don't, but Papa Salt has Papa Salt tattooed on him.

• 45:01Speaker 05

  Not Margot Robbie.

• 45:02Speaker 06

So years, no, no, we should have tried. Yet.

• 45:06Speaker 05

He'd probably say, do you know, I knew that girl, she came and drank here, she did drink quite a lot.

• 45:12Speaker 06

She was fun. He can give me a run for my money, he can put it away, but he's from the Gold Coast too.

• 45:17Speaker 05

Has he tried, has he tried the gin yet?

• 45:20Speaker 06

Well, what happened, as soon as we decided to call it Papa Salt, we were like, we should let him know.

• 45:26Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 45:28Speaker 06

And one of our partners, cause it's just five of us friends that make Papa Salt, like there's no company behind us or anything, it's just self-funded and. We do it for fun.

• 45:38Speaker 06

But kind of like doubted the group, Charlie was like, there might be some like legal shit here that we should, you know, check on. Turns out there's not because it's a, it's a nickname, but I was like, yeah, but I still wanna let him know. And so we're like, how do we get in touch with the guy we got drunk with years ago in Sri Lanka at a beach bar? And our friend Catty was on a surf trip at the time in Sri Lanka and I called her, I was like, I bet she's out here at Katia Bay. And then I called her and I was like, are you out here? And she was like, yes. And I was like, this is perfect. I was like, can you go to a place called the doctor's house? She was like, I was there last Saturday night. And I was like, perfect, go back. Look for a guy that looks like Santa Claus on a summer holiday. And when you find him, if you find him, FaceTime us.

• 46:18Speaker 06

And so we get this FaceTime from Catty a few days later and she's drunk with Papa Salt and she's like, oh, Salt. And so both of them are FaceTiming their life. And she's like, he's the best. And we're like, I know, I know, I put him on. And we're like, Papa Salt, do you remember us? And he's like, oh, g'day, yeah, of course I do. He's like, g'day, Margot, we're both from the Goldie blah blah. And we're like, we made a gin and we wanna name it after you, we wanna name it Papa Salt, are you cool with that? And he was like, yeah, of course, great. Like not phased at all, like as if he gets that phone call once a week, he's like, yeah, sure, whatever. He's like, I've got, and we're like, do, is there anything that, you know, you wanna go over or any questions, you wanna have time to think about it, blah, blah, blah. He's like, no, no, no. Oh, one question, one question. We're like, yeah, sure, sure.

• 47:00Speaker 06

Like, oh, it's a bit where we need to get lawyers involved or a contract or something. He's like, can I make T-shirts? And we were like, yeah, of course. He's like, yeah, okay, cool. And we're like, anything else? He's like, no, that's it. And I was like, all right, sweet. Well, we'd like to do a lifetime supply of Papa Salt. And he was like, yeah, right. I'm more of a rum drinker, but we're like, all right, well, and now he drinks Papa Salt. Like, we have to ship, we have to find out how to get like gallons of Papa Salt to wherever he, like, last time we checked in, he was in Benewatu. We have to like figure out how to ship, like, like illegally ship essentially Papa Salt to him.

• 47:38Speaker 05

  Where can you buy it?

• 47:39Speaker 06

  Well, here in England.

• 47:40Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 47:41Speaker 06

  Anywhere, really.

• 47:42Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 47:42Speaker 06

  Um, and then.

• 47:43Speaker 05

  In L A?

• 47:44Speaker 06

No, not in America yet, just Australia and England, really. And Fiji. Wow, cool.

• 47:51Speaker 05

Have you got another film project up and running?

• 47:54Speaker 06

About ten, probably. Well, we, we have a production company, so we've got a lot of things in development. Yeah. Constantly. And you never know what's gonna happen next. Oh, do you know what's exciting, though? What? A play is coming out here in London soon. Which one? It's called Fifteen Thirty Six. Have you heard of it? No, where's it being shown? So we've jumped on board to produce this too. And really, we're, it's more of a supportive producing role because it was already ready to go.

• 48:19Speaker 05

  Was it on?

• 48:20Speaker 06

It's gonna be at the Almeida. Oh, amazing.

• 48:23Speaker 05

No, I have seen it advertised.

• 48:25Speaker 06

So you're producers on that. First time Lucky Chap have done theatre productions. Second time, actually. We did a, we did a off-Broadway show in America called Big Gay Jamboree. You know Titanic, that's playing here at the moment? So fab. So Marla Mendel, who created that with a, a friend of hers. Also wrote this thing called. Cause that, yeah, Titanic started on Off Broadway, didn't it as well? So, okay, amazing. And so that's how that happened. But now fifteen thirty six. Yeah, Ava Pickett wrote it, and I think she's just the best. Honestly, I think she's the best new writer there is right now. And um, it's so good. I think it's the best play I've ever read. It's about three women living in a village at the time that Amber Lynn was beheaded. Oh, wow.

• 49:09Speaker 06

And it's kind of about like the effects, the ripple effect of that happening. So it's fifteen thirty when it's set, okay. But it's so good. It's honestly, I think it's the best play I've ever read. Would you have liked to have been in it? Yeah. Could you be in it? Maybe if it goes to Broadway? I think I might be a little old for the characters. I don't think I could. Babe, you just played a seventeen year old, so you're fine. Kathy's not seventeen in our movie. Yeah, no, she's not. No, she's like. In our movie. You look incredibly youthful. So much. No, in our movie Kathy, in Wuthering Heights, she's like mid twenties to early thirties. Okay. Cause the movie kind of spans over like six years. Well, you got the kids part. Oh, we should talk about Owen, of course. We should.

• 49:53Speaker 06

Did you? So I'm just wondering. Adolescence wasn't out when we started. You must have been like, bad a being, like when adolescence happened. Because like so, so often people say like, oh, overnight sensation. And I've always been like, that's not the reality. No one's an overnight sensation. But it was an overnight sensation. Like, no one knew him. We were working, you know. How did you find him? He was doing his thing, right?

• 50:18Speaker 05

When he was in adolescence, so I nudged Alice and I said, oh, it's the boy from adolescence, isn't it? And I thi- this sounds terrible, but I was surprised, cause I wondered if that was all he could do. And that that be.

• 50:31Speaker 06

  No, no, no.

• 50:32Speaker 05

And so that was the most uplifting thing.

• 50:35Speaker 06

  Mm.

• 50:36Speaker 05

  Cause he was so good.

• 50:38Speaker 06

  He's so good.

• 50:39Speaker 05

  So.

• 50:39Speaker 06

And Charlotte, who plays the young Kathy, she was in the West End production of Matilda, not as Matilda, but she's. They're both so brilliant. And honestly, the movie wouldn't work if they weren't as good as they are.

• 50:51Speaker 05

  It makes you feel.

• 50:52Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 50:52Speaker 05

So connected with him and emotional about him.

• 50:55Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 50:55Speaker 05

And his love for Kathy from such an early age.

• 50:59Speaker 06

Can we talk about Martin Clunes as well? Martin Clunes? No one in America seems to know Martin Clunes and everyone, I'm hoping everyone here is gonna be like, huh?

• 51:06Speaker 05

Like, eh, he was astonishingly good. Yeah, exceptional.

• 51:10Speaker 06

He is my dear old Papa and also just. Just the best man, like I just love him. Have you ever met him?

• 51:18Jessie Ware?

No, we've never had him on this. He is a boot.

• 51:22Speaker 06

I love Mister Linton. Oh my god. I know, and he's got a tough role because like. He's not the most exciting character, he's a solid kind one. They're so kind. It's funny, I had a um. A bachelorette for Cath- I didn't have it. My friends threw a bachelorette for Cathy, the character, which sounds ridiculous, I know, but it was, it was really fun.

• 51:44Jessie Ware?

  Did you have Willie's drawers?

• 51:46Speaker 06

We had all the things you'd see at a bachelorette, yeah, and um.

• 51:50Jessie Ware?

Do you have a stripper? Did Jacob come be a stripper? That would have been fab.

• 51:53Speaker 06

No, Jesse. Ja- Jacob did not come as a stripper, but we did, we did have strippers.

• 52:01Speaker 06

  And they were amazing.

• 52:03Jessie Ware?

  What, what theme was it?

• 52:05Speaker 06

  They did classic magic.

• 52:06Jessie Ware?

  Classic, love that, love it.

• 52:09Speaker 06

Darling, I'm thinking of my seventy fifth.

• 52:11Jessie Ware?

Oh yeah, Lenny, you may not make it to your seventy sixth.

• 52:14Speaker 06

You know what, if they'd themed it, it wouldn't have been as sexy, it would have been funny, but like, I remember on my real. Hen do back, back when I was getting married back in the day, um, I love Harry Potter and my friends got.

• 52:25Jessie Ware?

  Oh no.

• 52:26Speaker 06

My friends got a stripper and made him do Harry Potter. Oh my god, that sounds a bit weird.

• 52:31Jessie Ware?

  Full of wrong.

• 52:32Speaker 06

It was so funny and not sexy and like this guy's like in a robe with the glasses and the scar and he's like. You know, all the innuendo that you can imagine and it was very, very funny, but um, I mean, we were all so drunk, it really didn't matter, to be honest, but. But yeah, no, when they did the classic Magic Mike performance, it was like, wow, that's, that's impressive.

• 52:54Jessie Ware?

I wanna go to one of your parties. I mean, we all know about this uh twenty four hour, twenty fourth birthday party.

• 52:59Speaker 06

  Party, we ended up.

• 53:00Jessie Ware?

Ended at Mosquito Bar that I mentioned earlier.

• 53:02Speaker 06

  Of course.

• 53:05Jessie Ware?

Have you ever tried to do one? How old are you now?

• 53:07Speaker 06

  I'm thirty five.

• 53:08Jessie Ware?

Have you ever tried to do a thirty six, uh thirty five, we, we do a thirty six hour one?

• 53:12Speaker 06

God, I'd love the challenge. Would quite be quite taxing. If I could do that. Seventy five hour party?

• 53:18Jessie Ware?

You need a lot of drugs, Lenny.

• 53:20Speaker 06

So many drugs would be required. No, I did my twenty four hour party with no drugs. I was drunk, obviously, just booze.

• 53:26Jessie Ware?

  And what, like snacks?

• 53:28Speaker 06

I guess so, I don't remember the snacks.

• 53:30Jessie Ware?

  Chips.

• 53:30Speaker 06

Yeah, we stopped at Five Guys at some point to get a burger, a bit of stamina.

• 53:33Jessie Ware?

I wanted to know, you know, you you're a producer, you're acting in this. Is it ever hard to be or wear all of those hats? When you're, are there any kind of limits where you're like, you know what, I need to focus on being Kathy right now? I can't think about like the D O P and da da da like this, or is it always? Is it all kind of all encompassing all the time, or do you have to be strict with how you share your time?

• 54:04Speaker 06

I don't find it hard to compartmentalise, but I'm conscious that the director needs to see me as their actor. You don't.

• 54:10Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 54:11Speaker 06

I don't think as a director you want your actor who's, you want your actor completely thinking about their character.

• 54:16Jessie Ware?

  Hmm.

• 54:17Speaker 06

Not about overtime and swapping locations and penalty payments.

• 54:21Speaker 05

  Think about that if he's.

• 54:22Speaker 06

Well, Jos, my, my producing partner Josie is the lead producer in all of Emerald's films, so Tom wasn't on set for most of this film. Um, but yeah, Josie's running the ship. I don't need to be running the ship. And we kind of orchestrate things so that I can step back about two weeks before the shoot. And I, I keep in, like, I'm conscious of everything that's happening and I check in like in lunch break and after work and all that kind of stuff. Cost reports and all that, all that stuff. But hmm, no decision's going to be held up because I'm on set, for example, like everything's going to keep moving without, you know, without me being like, yes, I agree or don't agree or whatever like that.

• 54:59Speaker 05

When you did I Tonya, did you train?

• 55:01Speaker 06

Hmm. I did a lot of training, but I couldn't start training until I'd finished. I did a film called Goodbye Christopher Robin right beforehand. And when you're contracted to a film, you sign a contract saying I won't partake in any.

• 55:15Speaker 05

  Dangerous.

• 55:16Speaker 06

Dangerous activities or activities that could get me injured and it becomes a whole insurance thing. So I had to keep waiting until I, as soon as I wrapped, then I was like five days a week.

• 55:24Speaker 05

  You ever skated before?

• 55:25Speaker 06

Not really. That's not where I'm from.

• 55:28Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 55:28Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 55:28Speaker 05

  Well, her balance is probably.

• 55:30Speaker 06

But I did a lot of rollerblading as a kid, like, and I'm a kid of the nineties, so lots of rollerblading, I think that helped.

• 55:35Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 55:35Speaker 06

I did a bit of ice skating when I got to America.

• 55:37Speaker 05

I have a really burning question that I've been dying to ask you. Please explain a prime mortgage.

• 55:43Speaker 06

Listen, do you have a bathtub I can jump in? How to short loans, I can get really, no, I mean, I, those lines were like as much gibberish to me as like.

• 55:53Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 55:54Speaker 06

I remember trying to make sense of it all, when I was like, I don't know what I'm talking about.

• 55:58Jessie Ware?

  Cause I still didn't understand.

• 55:59Speaker 06

  No, me neither.

• 56:00Jessie Ware?

  Good, okay.

• 56:01Speaker 06

Charles Randolph, who wrote that script, is an exceptionally bright man and um. As much as I was like, Charles, explain it to me one more time. I was like, you know what, I'm just gonna say the lines and you tell me if it's reading right.

• 56:11Jessie Ware?

Okay. Um, when are you gonna direct? Cause it feels like the next step.

• 56:15Speaker 06

I don't know. I really want to. I really, really want to. Producing, to be honest, producing takes up all of my time. It's not acting that takes up my time. Acting takes up a chunk of time.

• 56:26Jessie Ware?

  Um.

• 56:26Speaker 06

But then you're like, I'm done with the job. Producing is twenty four seven, every day of the year. It doesn't stop and it hasn't, you know, we've been running the company for eleven years now. So it's like for the last eleven years, I've never not been actively producing. So.

• 56:43Jessie Ware?

  Good for you.

• 56:44Speaker 06

No, I know, it's been great. It's been great.

• 56:46Jessie Ware?

  Brilliant.

• 56:46Speaker 06

But it's um, yeah, I need, I need to figure out how to step away from that more so that I can make space for trying to direct.

• 56:52Jessie Ware?

Do you think you'd be able to do like a Yentl, a Barbara where you like produce?

• 56:56Speaker 06

  Oh my gosh.

• 56:56Jessie Ware?

  Direct and stuff.

• 56:57Speaker 06

No, I would never. I don't know how. I've spoken to a lot of like actor directors and been like, how do you do both? It just sounds inefficient, like to do a take and then go back to the monitors, watch the take.

• 57:10Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 57:10Speaker 06

Make the adjustments and go back instead of finishing. I'm like, yeah, just you gotta keep, you gotta jump straight back into it. So I, I don't know how I could do it and not be like. I don't know, this is not efficient. I, I don't like a not efficient set. I like, I need a set to be like, just because. I mean, one silly thing to do, but once you know your day cost, if you divide that by the minute, if you. Sometimes I think, I'm like, if actors only knew, like when an actor takes more than. Two minutes to come serve. An actor makes you wait for twenty minutes. I'm like, you just wasted sixty grand.

• 57:43Speaker 05

Okay, so for dessert, I've made a Middle Eastern eat and mess.

• 57:47Speaker 06

  Oh.

• 57:47Speaker 05

Because I think Australians like meringue.

• 57:50Speaker 06

Yeah, we, we have, have lova. We pretend it's Australian. It's actually not Australian, but we embrace it like.

• 57:51Speaker 05

  Oh, yeah. Yeah.

• 57:55Speaker 05

Will you have a little bit?

• 57:57Speaker 06

Are you joking? Absolutely. What makes it Middle Eastern? The rose petals?

• 58:01Speaker 05

  I, it's got pomegranate.

• 58:02Jessie Ware?

  Yes.

• 58:03Speaker 05

  Mmm.

• 58:03Jessie Ware?

  And rose.

• 58:04Speaker 05

  Pomegranate molasses. And sunaq.

• 58:07Speaker 06

Oh, my gosh. This is incredible. Do you always eat like this?

• 58:12Jessie Ware?

Well, we do it for the pod, but mum's always been a really like, she's always made the left.

• 58:16Speaker 06

  Oh, my gosh.

• 58:18Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 58:18Speaker 05

  I like the pomegranate.

• 58:20Jessie Ware?

  Mmm, it's really nice.

• 58:22Speaker 06

And it's like a Turkish, it's like a Turkish jollai eat and mess. Oh, it's so good.

• 58:22Speaker 05

  But it just goes.

• 58:25Speaker 05

Mmm. So, last supper. Margot Robbie, let's go.

• 58:30Speaker 06

It's funny, I always ask this meal. I call it death row meal, but last supper is nicer. Um.

• 58:36Speaker 06

  It changes often.

• 58:39Speaker 06

But today, if I had to have my last supper today.

• 58:41Jessie Ware?

  Mm hmm.

• 58:43Speaker 06

I've got a banging cheese board to start. I know, so really just in the country, in this country, but for us, that is part of the course.

• 58:51Speaker 05

With what says things, isn't it? Not nuts and bolts.

• 58:53Speaker 06

  No, not this. Not.

• 58:54Jessie Ware?

  Nuts and bolts.

• 58:55Speaker 05

  Nuts and bolts.

• 58:57Speaker 06

No, not a, not a bogan cheese board. I would go like full.

• 59:02Speaker 06

European cheese board. I want like the triple cream brie. I want quince paste. I want something like wood crackers. I want a blue cheese. Of course, I want a cheddar in there as well. A gruyere or something fancy. And like a really good white burgundy with that. Even red, no, white burgundy. Just a love of white burgundy. Main, I'm thinking.

• 59:24Speaker 06

I'm tempted to go with my husband's spag bol, or I'm gonna go full Christmas dinner, like all the things.

• 59:31Speaker 05

  Well, Aussie Christmas dinner.

• 59:32Speaker 06

  Aussie Christmas dinner.

• 59:33Speaker 05

So is that a Barbie on the, um, deck?

• 59:36Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 59:36Speaker 06

Well, you do often have prawns, but the main meal is ham. So a ham at Christmas time is integral. There is no Australian. Christmas lunch or dinner.

• 59:46Jessie Ware?

  No.

• 59:46Speaker 06

Turkey, it's like, sure, maybe if it's there, but you're not. Really thinking about the turkey, you're thinking about the ham.

• 59:52Jessie Ware?

And the ham is cold. It's a cold ham?

• 59:55Speaker 06

No, the funny thing is, it's actually a cooked ham.

• 59:59Jessie Ware?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:00Speaker 06

Smoked ham, but then you put it in the oven essentially just to heat it up.

• 1:00:03Jessie Ware?

  Okay.

• 1:00:04Speaker 06

And then you serve it hot with with cranberry jelly. But to tell you a little segue side story for a second here.

• 1:00:11Jessie Ware?

  Hit me.

• 1:00:11Speaker 06

I never realised it was a pre-cooked ham. I always thought when I was putting it in the oven or when whoever was putting the oven for like, you know, three hours ish. That that was cooking in a ham. No, that's just heating the ham. It's a big piece of meat to heat. Um. So my first Christmas over here in England with Tom's family, his whole family, I was like, I'll do the ham everyone.

• 1:00:31Jessie Ware?

  Uh oh.

• 1:00:32Speaker 06

I've got it. And everyone said, oh, okay, great. Anyways, so. Went to the butcher and I was like, can I get a ham, leg of ham please? And he's like, what do you mean? And I was like, a leg of ham. And he's like, like gammon. And I was like. Sure, gammon, sure. Gammon means pork means ham. Yeah, sure, gammon. So he gives me a giant, like. Twelve pound thing of gammon. And I was like, hmm, all right. So I take this, I, you know, go to Christmas with his entire family.

• 1:00:58Jessie Ware?

  That really is a two.

• 1:00:59Speaker 06

We're at he, we're at his brother's house, so the, they've hired and they rented an oven and put it in the shed out the back because there's not enough space, obviously the. You know, kitchen's tiny and the oven was tiny. And so I was like, where can I put this, this ham, this gammon? They're out in the shed. I was like, all right, righto. And I was like, I only need three hours. I got there three hours early, put it in the shed. Put in the oven, took it out after three hours. We all sat down for three hours for a ham, a completely raw piece of gammon.

• 1:01:25Jessie Ware?

Oy, it's probably another at least three times.

• 1:01:28Speaker 06

It's not cooked at all, it's raw, just a raw piece of pig, essentially.

• 1:01:33Jessie Ware?

Did your husband not get involved as somebody who likes to smoke his meat?

• 1:01:36Speaker 06

No, he wasn't. I don't know, he wasn't really, it was, I think he was just letting me have this moment. He's like, you do you, hon. And then I, we all sat down and. Okay, I remember watching his grandma. He's a raw pig essentially going towards her mouth and I smacked the fork. I was like, no, and I smacked her out. It looked like raw meat. I know, I was like, I'm back to kill Granny Miller.

• 1:02:02Speaker 06

Smacked her over her head and I was like, no one eat that, I'll be back. I was like shit, shit, shit. Put it back in the oven. I was like, oh, I don't know. Anyways, Christmas dinner went on, it was fine. We had other things to eat. But like. And we forgot about the gammon. Oh. And we all got drunk, cause you know, it's England and it's Christmas. Perfect. And then at midnight, we're off our tits and suddenly we're like, it smells like something's on fire. Oh no. Forgotten. That gammon's been in the back shed for nine hours. And was it cooked? It was on fire, to be fair, but once we pulled out the fire. It was delicious. Underneath, heaven. Okay, good. Absolute heaven. Delicious. We ate it at midnight. It was great. The, the Robbie method.

• 1:02:46Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Light it on fire. But yeah, now I know it needs to be a smoked ham. Yeah. Oh my god, that's brilliant. Okay, so. So we're going maybe Christmas minus your, your ham. Cheese board, Christmas with the smoked ham, hamburgh, mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes? Oh, absolutely. Is that because of your, because your mum?

• 1:03:07Speaker 05

Do you know, I think we're the only country that really has roast potatoes, the way we do them. In America, they have mashed potatoes with their, their Thanksgiving meal.

• 1:03:16Speaker 06

Roast here, it's like you have to have roast potatoes to have it be a roast, so yeah, I get it. It's a big thing for you guys.

• 1:03:22Speaker 05

It's not like that all over the world. They'll have sauteed, not a roast potato.

• 1:03:27Speaker 06

Oh, we do all the potatoes with dauphin wa. I mean, we, although we don't really call it dauphin wa, that's kind of like a here thing. Gratin? Don't know. What do you call it? Don't know, the bogan in me, we just called it potato bake. Potato. I like that.

• 1:03:40Speaker 05

How'd you get the word bogan?

• 1:03:42Speaker 06

  I have no idea.

• 1:03:43Speaker 05

  Come from?

• 1:03:43Speaker 06

I don't know. Do you know what bogan nachos is? No. So this is, by the way, I know I say it weird. You say nachos. I say nachos and I don't know why. Oh, we, we're talking about nachos? Nacho. Like the like. What do you call it? Nachos. And I don't even think all Australians do that. Okay. But what I always thought growing up, what I thought nachos was, was a packet of Doritos. No, first you get the alfoil. Do you call it alfoil here or do you call it aluminium foil like? We called it just foil, tinfoil. Tinfoil, okay. Tinfoil, we call it alfoil. You put that down on a baking tray. Packet of Doritos. Yeah. Tuna baked beans. Baked beans. Grated cheese. Oi.

• 1:04:26Speaker 06

Chuck it in the oven, let it all melt. That's when I thought nachos was.

• 1:04:29Jessie Ware?

  That's a vegan nacho.

• 1:04:30Speaker 06

That is vegan nachos and it is delicious. I bet it is. You, you, gosh.

• 1:04:36Jessie Ware?

  Australians love abbreviation, don't they?

• 1:04:39Speaker 06

  Hmm.

• 1:04:40Jessie Ware?

  What did you do?

• 1:04:40Speaker 06

  I just agree with you.

• 1:04:41Jessie Ware?

  Al foil. Aluminum, aluminium foil.

• 1:04:45Speaker 06

  Albo.

• 1:04:45Jessie Ware?

What do you call, oh no, it wasn't anything, Stonhouse, Stony, Stony's, yeah.

• 1:04:50Speaker 06

  The ambo for the ambulance.

• 1:04:52Jessie Ware?

  Ambo.

• 1:04:53Speaker 06

Oh, on the end of anything.

• 1:04:54Jessie Ware?

  I love it.

• 1:04:55Speaker 06

  Hmm.

• 1:04:55Jessie Ware?

Did you love Colin from Accounts?

• 1:04:59Jessie Ware?

  I haven't watched it.

• 1:05:00Speaker 06

Whoa, no. I know. But I know, I know it's brilliant.

• 1:05:04Jessie Ware?

  Oh, babe.

• 1:05:05Speaker 06

Go on, take my passport off.

• 1:05:07Jessie Ware?

  I just haven't.

• 1:05:08Speaker 06

  Very Australian.

• 1:05:09Jessie Ware?

You should watch that on the plane home. You'll be like, my guy back.

• 1:05:12Speaker 06

I know, I already know I love it.

• 1:05:13Jessie Ware?

  Oh, so good.

• 1:05:14Speaker 06

Do you know what very British show I love? Gavin and Stacey.

• 1:05:17Jessie Ware?

Oh, it's gorgeous. It's really gorgeous.

• 1:05:20Speaker 06

Our equivalent is Catherine Kim. Did you ever see?

• 1:05:22Jessie Ware?

  I love Catherine Kim, yeah.

• 1:05:23Speaker 06

I've watched Catherine Kim, but Gavin and Stacey, just the best show ever. Just makes me so happy.

• 1:05:28Jessie Ware?

Did you see the Christmas bash?

• 1:05:30Speaker 06

  Of course I did.

• 1:05:30Jessie Ware?

  Oh, it's gorgeous.

• 1:05:31Speaker 06

Watched it twice, wouldn't miss it for the world. Absolutely love it. I, um, do you know, I had a dinner not that long ago and I was sat next to Bette Midler, which was a big dick.

• 1:05:38Jessie Ware?

  Oh, my god, shut up.

• 1:05:40Speaker 06

  I know, I know.

• 1:05:41Jessie Ware?

  Was she, was she nice?

• 1:05:44Speaker 06

Unbelievable. So kind, so amazing. Also, like, First Wives Club is very important to me as a film, so I was like, I can't believe this is happening. And, you know, Hocus Pocus and every, whatever. Um, but I was telling her about Gavin and Stacey. She was kind of like, being like, what should I watch? And I was like, honestly, Gavin and Stacey is like one of the best.

• 1:06:01Jessie Ware?

Did she watch it? Do we know?

• 1:06:02Speaker 06

I sent her the whole DVD package afterwards and she, she was like, wrote me an email being like, don't worry, I already started watching it after I heard you talk about it. And I was like, she's like, I'll watch the rest on the DVDs now, but I, yeah. She's very sweet. Oh, I should have her on.

• 1:06:16Jessie Ware?

I, she's on my, she's on my top three. Her, Larry David and Barbara Streisand, so yeah.

• 1:06:22Speaker 06

  Great list.

• 1:06:23Jessie Ware?

  Thank you.

• 1:06:23Speaker 06

  I hope that happens.

• 1:06:24Jessie Ware?

Yeah, thank you. Um, okay, so how are we finishing off this meal?

• 1:06:28Speaker 06

  Oh, okay.

• 1:06:30Jessie Ware?

Have you got a sweet tooth?

• 1:06:31Speaker 06

Do you like ice cream? Lenny, you read my mind. I was literally about to say, I'm an ice cream fiend. I eat so much ice cream. Who are you, who are you eating? It's the only thing my mum could really threaten me with. Violence wouldn't work on me, but she threatened me to not have ice cream. I'd be like, I'm, I'm your slave. I'll do whatever I need. First flavour you'd buy. There is a place in America called Salt and Straw.

• 1:06:54Speaker 06

Did you have the sea salt caramel ice cream? Yeah, because Hannah made me have it. Is it the best? In a waffle cone. Oh, God. Done. That's it for me.

• 1:07:03Jessie Ware?

Before we let you go, I don't want to because you are.

• 1:07:06Speaker 06

So lovely. I'll just stay forever.

• 1:07:07Jessie Ware?

You, you, you are just as fabulous as everyone says you are. A nostalgic taste that can transport you back somewhere.

• 1:07:15Speaker 06

Mashed potato. Really? Yeah. I've spoken about it a lot tonight. When you're, as you said, off your tits, do you sing karaoke? Oh, I love a bit of karaoke. Okay, I do too, but she hates it. Do you know, I used to, I, I don't like it if I'm not with friends. Like, I wouldn't do karaoke if there's like people there that I don't know. Like, I'm not gonna get out and get up and belt it out in front of strangers. So which song?

• 1:07:39Speaker 06

  Share, Believe.

• 1:07:44Jessie Ware?

And I have the auto-tune on.

• 1:07:46Speaker 06

I, I do a bit of shit. I do the shit. I'm like, you, I like, I get into the beats.

• 1:07:50Jessie Ware?

  Amazing.

• 1:07:51Speaker 06

Yeah, I was about to jump in and make the mistake of actually reenacting. Just in the nick of time.

• 1:07:56Jessie Ware?

It's a, a very euphoric song and it's, it, you don't realise it until you're in that first chorus and then everyone's singing it and then they feel so good. It's incredible.

• 1:08:05Speaker 06

Everyone feels inclined to jump in.

• 1:08:07Jessie Ware?

Yeah, it's a stunning, stunning song. Um, Margot Robbie, thank you so much for doing this. You are so busy. You are so fabulous. And, um.

• 1:08:17Speaker 06

Never too busy for this. This was absolutely amazing.

• 1:08:20Jessie Ware?

  You are so sweet.

• 1:08:21Speaker 06

  Such a good meal, Lenny.

• 1:08:22Jessie Ware?

  Yeah, it was delicious.

• 1:08:24Speaker 06

Unreal. Good luck with the film. Thank you. And come again whenever you need. Can I just pop over for dinner sometime?

• 1:08:32Speaker 06

  We've got to inferno itself.

• 1:08:33Jessie Ware?

No, thank you. No, thank you. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good.

• 1:08:51Jessie Ware?

Margot Robbie may be even better than I could have possibly imagined that she could be.

• 1:08:57Speaker 05

She's just one of the nicest people, just a superstar.

• 1:09:01Jessie Ware?

I was desperate for her to ask for my number. Didn't happen. And I believe that we'll hang out sometime in the future.

• 1:09:08Speaker 05

  Do you?

• 1:09:08Jessie Ware?

Loved her, want to be her best friend, want to go surfing with her in Sri Lanka and make friends with Papa Salt.

• 1:09:14Speaker 05

But you want to be one of the bachelorettes.

• 1:09:16Jessie Ware?

I want it all. I want to go and have a Chinese with her.

• 1:09:18Speaker 05

  Yeah, she's good fun.

• 1:09:20Jessie Ware?

She's just fab and so talented, like Lucky Chap, her production company, the stuff they bring out, whether it's I, Tonya, Saltburn, Wuthering Heights, I mean, she's Barbie, like, she's amazing. And she's just like doing her thing and being a great actress and a lovely human.

• 1:09:36Speaker 05

Beautiful. Oh, Captain Lucky at her.

• 1:09:40Jessie Ware?

  She's perfection.

• 1:09:41Speaker 05

Perfect skin, perfect teeth. They were all her own as well.

• 1:09:46Jessie Ware?

I know, all her own teeth too.

• 1:09:48Speaker 05

All her own teeth, she's perfect.

• 1:09:50Jessie Ware?

Anyway, Margot Robbie, you're fabulous. We love you. Wuthering Heights is out this Friday, the 13th of February.

• 1:09:55Speaker 05

And it's going to weather all your heights.

• 1:09:58Jessie Ware?

And the production that she was talking about at the Almeida, 1536, is coming out, I think, at the beginning of May, so get your tickets.

• 1:10:05Speaker 05

I can't wait to see what she's in next.

• 1:10:06Jessie Ware?

Mum, that salmon was so delicious.

• 1:10:09Speaker 05

  Was it?

• 1:10:09Jessie Ware?

Was it easy or a bit of a fan?

• 1:10:11Speaker 05

No, I did it this morning.

• 1:10:13Jessie Ware?

Delicious mum, absolutely delicious, thank you. Really great recipe. Who's the chef?

• 1:10:18Speaker 05

  So it's by Emily Scott.

• 1:10:20Jessie Ware?

  Emily Scott.

• 1:10:21Speaker 05

Yeah, kind of look up more of your recipes, girl.

• 1:10:23Jessie Ware?

Yeah. Thank you for listening. Thank you for watching and we'll see you next week.
