• 0:30Theo Von?

Today's guest is a country singer and songwriter. She's my Louisiana sista. She just released the deluxe version of her latest album, Whirlwind. She's on tour now. She always is up to something. I'm so grateful to spend time again with Ms. Laney Wilson.

• 1:06Theo Von?

Dang, girl, you got that deluxe coming out, huh?

• 1:09Speaker 02

  Deluxe.

• 1:10Theo Von?

God. How many songs are on it?

• 1:13Speaker 02

I mean, it's, it's five. But I'm already working on that next record. I'm already working on that, the record before the record's out. You know what I'm saying? Like the next one.

• 1:23Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. I feel like you're just in, working in the past and the future.

• 1:27Speaker 02

That's it. What about this? Hey.

• 1:34Theo Von?

  Oi. Why does that sound?

• 1:37Speaker 02

It's like telling a ghost story.

• 1:38Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, that was the best. That kid that got under there and told that ghost story where you're like.

• 1:45Speaker 02

  With a flashlight?

• 1:45Theo Von?

Yeah. And then there was always the one kid, he couldn't control the flashlight. It was just like, he'd put it straight into your eyes and you're like, God, this is a dang exorcism.

• 1:55Speaker 02

I just was thinking about it. Did you ever hear any stories from the Myrtles in St. Francisville, Louisiana?

• 2:04Theo Von?

  Like the plantation?

• 2:05Speaker 02

The plantation. I mean, my mama took her gifted students down there.

• 2:09Theo Von?

  She did.

• 2:10Speaker 02

And she got some weird stuff in her pictures. I just, I just thought about Louisiana and.

• 2:15Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, no, that's some of the kind of stuff. I mean, they. I mean, first of all, being gifted in Louisiana, I was in, I was in some of those courses and it was.

• 2:22Speaker 02

  Were you?

• 2:23Theo Von?

Yeah, I mean, you just got the full alphabet they gave you. I remember like regular ed, they were cutting kids off at like M. I'm like, what? You'd, you'd meet kids that could only sm- knew words that had the first half of the alphabet in them. I was like, God, you gotta.

• 2:38Speaker 02

  That's some Louisiana stuff.

• 2:40Theo Von?

But then you get in that gifted class and they had dang.

• 2:43Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 2:44Theo Von?

  Thirteen more letters in there.

• 2:45Speaker 02

Dude, I was never in the gifted program.

• 2:47Theo Von?

  Really?

• 2:48Speaker 02

  No. I was, I'm too A H D.

• 2:51Theo Von?

Oh, you did have it on?

• 2:53Speaker 02

I mean, I'm like, I never really got like diagnosed with it, but I absolutely know that I'm like. Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel. You know, I was thinking about, I wasn't thinking about spelling and reading and.

• 3:04Theo Von?

  No, you had four H D H D, I think. You know what I'm saying? That's a.

• 3:08Speaker 02

  I like that.

• 3:09Theo Von?

That's a real kind of rural version.

• 3:11Speaker 02

  That's it. That's what I'm, I'm gonna call it.

• 3:13Theo Von?

Yeah, you can't pay attention, but you'll pet something if it shows up.

• 3:16Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 3:17Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 3:18Speaker 02

Me and my sister, we did show horses.

• 3:20Theo Von?

  I bet there's a.

• 3:22Speaker 02

We'd walk out there like this. This is like, you're holding like right there at the, you know, at the, at the bit.

• 3:28Theo Von?

  Uh huh.

• 3:29Speaker 02

And then, so you walk out like this and then you have to like get all four of their feet lined up. And my horse half the time was a pain in the ass, but. I think I got like first runner up, something like that.

• 3:41Theo Von?

God. Yeah, they didn't have that.

• 3:44Speaker 02

  Were you in four H?

• 3:45Theo Von?

  No, I was not.

• 3:47Speaker 02

  You weren't?

• 3:47Theo Von?

I was not in it. I think they, something happened in our area, got discontinued for a year or something. I think the barn sunk or wherever they were running it out of. They had a dang infestation over there or something, or termites. I mean, a bad batch of termites came.

• 4:01Speaker 02

  That's some Covington stuff, huh?

• 4:03Theo Von?

Oh, they took that thing down in the night, that barn.

• 4:08Theo Von?

  And they left town.

• 4:10Speaker 02

  See ya.

• 4:10Theo Von?

Yeah, those things were full. I was like, how'd y'all not see them leaving? They ate all that wood? They ate all that wood and just took off, you know?

• 4:18Speaker 02

  Gosh.

• 4:19Theo Von?

It was that kind of thing. Show horses, I bet there's a, um. Cause a lot of women put in extra hair. Do you ever have to do it or no?

• 4:26Speaker 02

  Put in extra hair?

• 4:27Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:27Speaker 02

  On me?

• 4:28Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 4:29Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 4:31Speaker 02

  You think this is mine?

• 4:32Theo Von?

  I can never tell.

• 4:34Speaker 02

  Is that all yours?

• 4:36Theo Von?

  It is.

• 4:36Speaker 02

That's it. You've got that good hair.

• 4:39Theo Von?

  Well, it's coming and going.

• 4:40Speaker 02

You've still got all your hair.

• 4:41Theo Von?

It's coming and going, honey. Something will happen. I'm sure.

• 4:44Speaker 02

I'll probably lose mine before you lose yours. You know, that's just how it goes.

• 4:49Theo Von?

I bet there's a horse out there that is so happy you are wearing its hair.

• 4:52Speaker 02

I hope so. I hope so.

• 4:54Theo Von?

I bet there is just a.

• 4:58Speaker 02

  I have a horse who's turning thirty-one this year.

• 5:01Theo Von?

  No, you don't.

• 5:02Speaker 02

  Thirty-one. Tex.

• 5:03Theo Von?

  And how is he?

• 5:05Speaker 02

He's good, but I think I just got the last ride on him. Yeah.

• 5:10Theo Von?

Was he in your four by four video or no?

• 5:13Speaker 02

No, that wasn't him. No, he's in Louisiana.

• 5:16Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 5:17Speaker 02

I don't know if any of these pictures right here are Tex. The one that looks the closest to him is that one right there, the.

• 5:24Theo Von?

  God, he's beautiful, huh?

• 5:25Speaker 02

Yes, he is. I got him when I was nine years old and taught me a lot.

• 5:31Theo Von?

  Did he?

• 5:31Speaker 02

Taught me a lot. He did. I mean, how to stay in the saddle, you know? I mean, he was, he was not broke. That's him right there.

• 5:42Speaker 02

That's in twenty twenty back in Louisiana.

• 5:44Theo Von?

  He's thirty-one?

• 5:45Speaker 02

  Thirty-one and.

• 5:48Theo Von?

My God, he's gotta be getting a pension now, huh?

• 5:50Speaker 02

He better be. He better be. If not, we better talk about it.

• 5:56Theo Von?

  Oh, that's awesome.

• 5:58Speaker 02

  Yeah. Old Tex.

• 6:00Theo Von?

And did your sister have a horse too or no?

• 6:01Speaker 02

Yep. She did. Hollywood and they're best buddies and he's, I think he might be like a year or two younger than Tex, but they hang out in the pasture. I mean, they are like, you can't separate them.

• 6:14Theo Von?

God, maybe they met online or whatever.

• 6:16Speaker 02

  They probably did.

• 6:17Theo Von?

Yeah, I, I, I think, I think I would like to get a horse as soon as I get a family or something. They'll give me a little horse.

• 6:24Speaker 02

Okay. Okay. Where are you gonna put it?

• 6:27Theo Von?

Is that what I'm gonna do? Probably in the yard, I guess. I mean, I guess.

• 6:30Speaker 02

  In the front yard?

• 6:33Speaker 02

  That's also some Louisiana shit.

• 6:37Speaker 02

  Vince in the whole house.

• 6:39Theo Von?

Yeah, dude. You have a horse in the front yard, you live on a quarter acre and you got a horse.

• 6:44Speaker 02

At least you got a horse.

• 6:48Theo Von?

God, dude, yeah, I do miss being in Louisiana a lot of times. It gets interesting as your life changes when you get outside of there. You know, do you notice it feels slower when you go back now?

• 6:57Speaker 02

Oh, yes, 100%. Even just calling mama and daddy back at home.

• 7:03Speaker 02

That's why I do call and FaceTime my family so much. I just kind of, you know, you think about the fast pace of all of this. I mean, it is like life is constantly changing every single day. It's probably the same way for you. But it's important for me to just call back and kind of that's, that's what kind of plants my feet on the ground.

• 7:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 7:24Speaker 02

FaceTiming my nephews who don't think I am cool at all.

• 7:29Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 7:29Speaker 02

I'm talking about the, the oldest one, he's six years old and the teacher asked the other day, they were talking about like the farming way of life and the country living life and all that stuff. And somehow country music got brought up and she was like, does anybody in here like country music? And Knox, he's in the back of class and he's just like, you know, not raising his hand. And she's like, Knox, you don't like country music? And he goes, not really. And then she goes, if you had to choose a favorite, who would it be? And he said, well, I guess my Aunt Laney. Why are you little asshole?

• 8:09Theo Von?

  Forced to do it.

• 8:10Speaker 02

Forced. There's nothing I could do that would make them think that I'm cool.

• 8:14Theo Von?

A couple more number ones. I mean, I don't know what it takes for these kids, you know?

• 8:17Speaker 02

  I know.

• 8:18Theo Von?

I don't know what it takes. They're almost like the damn CMA voters or whatever.

• 8:21Speaker 02

That's exactly how it feels. I'm like, what else can I do? Please vote for me.

• 8:28Theo Von?

Kids are funny. My little nephews won't even answer my calls anymore. I'm like, dude, what do you mean?

• 8:33Speaker 02

I know. Leaving you all red?

• 8:35Theo Von?

Yeah, they just, it's different. They don't, I think it that, they just, they're locked in their own universe, you know?

• 8:42Theo Von?

Have you guys, you're just getting married, you get, are you married yet or not?

• 8:44Speaker 02

  I ain't married yet.

• 8:45Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 8:46Speaker 02

  I'm making him wait.

• 8:47Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 8:47Speaker 02

Making him wait, he made me wait.

• 8:50Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 8:51Theo Von?

Is that your wedding ring on?

• 8:52Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's it.

• 8:53Theo Von?

Let me see that thing. Yeah.

• 8:55Speaker 02

  See that?

• 8:55Theo Von?

  Boy.

• 8:57Speaker 02

When he opened up that box, I was like,

• 9:00Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 9:00Speaker 02

  I guess I do.

• 9:02Theo Von?

  Oh, I'd have been.

• 9:03Speaker 02

  I guess I do.

• 9:03Theo Von?

I'd have been dang, I'd, hell, I'd have considered it, and I prefer women, you know?

• 9:07Speaker 02

  I know, I know.

• 9:09Theo Von?

God, where did he get that out of?

• 9:10Speaker 02

He, well, he, uh, designed it.

• 9:12Theo Von?

  Arkansas?

• 9:13Speaker 02

  He designed it.

• 9:14Theo Von?

  Did he really?

• 9:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:15Theo Von?

  Nuh-uh.

• 9:16Speaker 02

Yeah. Yeah, you see that? Uh-huh.

• 9:19Theo Von?

Damn, makes Superman sit down for a half hour.

• 9:22Speaker 02

That's it, that's it. We, uh, we got engaged at George Jones' old house.

• 9:28Theo Von?

I remember seeing the video, seeing something of it. Oh, there you go.

• 9:32Speaker 02

  There he is.

• 9:34Theo Von?

Mr. Hodges right there, good guy.

• 9:36Speaker 02

He is a good boy. He's, uh, he just lets me do my thing, and he does his, and it's just, it just works.

• 9:44Theo Von?

  Does it?

• 9:44Speaker 02

  My best buddy.

• 9:46Theo Von?

Wonder what errors people make in that type of thing, I guess. I mean, it's so hard because like, people's schedules gets, just get so hectic.

• 9:52Speaker 02

  Well, for sure.

• 9:53Theo Von?

Does he come on the road with you if you're out, or does he kind of pop in and out?

• 9:56Speaker 02

Every now and then. Like, he, he's busy doing his own stuff, and that's great. You know, like, I've, I always said, like, I have to have somebody that has their own dreams and goals and motivations, and, you know, then we can, we have things to talk about and come together and dream, and I just didn't want to be the only one dreaming kind of thing.

• 10:18Speaker 02

  But yeah, he's, he's awesome. He's, he's killing it.

• 10:22Theo Von?

Yeah, I gotta check in with, um, with Mr. Hodges and see what's going on.

• 10:27Speaker 02

You need to come out to the house. We had a crawfish boil, I think we-

• 10:31Theo Von?

Oh, wait, y'all almost, y'all invited me to something.

• 10:33Speaker 02

I did. We were having a crawfish boil. I think it was actually Duck's birthday. Do you get crawfish a good bit?

• 10:38Theo Von?

I don't do it in Nashville very much.

• 10:40Speaker 02

  We got it sent up.

• 10:42Theo Von?

  Was it good?

• 10:42Speaker 02

It was from South Mississippi, and it was-

• 10:47Speaker 02

  It was good.

• 10:47Theo Von?

  I've heard it's good.

• 10:48Speaker 02

  It was good.

• 10:49Theo Von?

God, I've heard it's good. Yeah, I gotta come and have some. I gotta get some this year. I can't even believe I haven't done it that much.

• 10:56Speaker 02

We have some during the season at our bar downtown Bell Bottoms Up. They got a truck out there, a crawfish truck.

• 11:03Theo Von?

  Oh, really? Hell, yeah.

• 11:05Speaker 02

Kind of sounds dangerous, but good, you know?

• 11:08Theo Von?

Yeah. I mean, I'm surprised they don't get hijacked more by criminals and stuff, but I think that's just us from Louisiana prefer it.

• 11:14Speaker 02

  Look at that.

• 11:15Theo Von?

  God, that's it right there.

• 11:16Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 11:17Theo Von?

  Oh, that'll definitely.

• 11:18Speaker 02

  In my belly.

• 11:20Theo Von?

Get that salt intake. Look at the beautiful color on those.

• 11:23Speaker 02

  I know.

• 11:23Theo Von?

Sometimes you get the dark red one, the one that's been like to hell and back or whatever.

• 11:27Speaker 02

Is that the one that like died before?

• 11:28Theo Von?

They say sometimes it died and got brought back to life. I'm like, nobody's resuscitating these things like.

• 11:34Speaker 02

I heard the one with like real flat tail.

• 11:36Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:36Speaker 02

Is the one that was like dead before they cooked it.

• 11:39Theo Von?

Yeah, I heard that one got around a lot in college too, I heard. It was definitely, yeah. I mean, you hear a lot of myths about those. But there is always like the crawfish that's like way too dark. It's like, it just like at the color way, you're like, what is going on?

• 11:52Speaker 02

You just gotta go around it.

• 11:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:53Speaker 02

You just gotta sit it to the side. I feel you.

• 11:56Theo Von?

And there's one sometimes they're still blinking at you a little bit, you know? One of them stills got that left turn signal going when you pull them out that pot. I'm like, some of these you should, people should not be eating, you know?

• 12:09Theo Von?

Congratulations on everything you're doing. Everything's going so great.

• 12:11Speaker 02

  Thanks.

• 12:12Theo Von?

How burnt out did you get last year? Were you really burnt out? Cause I, I'm not joking. Every time I would talk to somebody, I'd be like, is Laney okay? Cause it seemed like you were just as busy as possible.

• 12:23Speaker 02

It was wild. I'll be honest with you. It was, it was wild, but like, you know, I've been at this for a long time. I've been in Nashville now for 14 years.

• 12:34Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. I remember last time you were on, we talked about, you know, when you got there and living in your camper and,

• 12:39Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 12:40Theo Von?

you know, the shower breaking and you standing in there just doing a prayer circle by yourself. Yeah.

• 12:46Speaker 02

And I feel like the last two years at least, I felt like, like all my dreams were really just coming true. Like honestly, tenfold, more than I could have ever even imagined. Like I knew I wanted to write songs. I knew I wanted to tell stories. I knew I wanted to play shows, but it was a lot and it was a lot of opportunity coming at once. And I wanted to, I wanted to say yes because for so long I didn't have opportunity, you know?

• 13:13Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 13:13Speaker 02

  And then,

• 13:16Speaker 02

And then I said, yes. And I was like, all right, I'm gonna do it. I was tired mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, all of it. But I tell you what, Theo, I'm all right. And I am in a healthy, healthy place right now. I feel like I've had a lot of balance this year. And I've just, I've learned a lot, you know, I've learned like what you say yes to now might not even come into effect until like a year down the road. And so it's, it's important to like protect your peace and um, but also like, you know, roll your sleeves up and get it done too.

• 13:52Theo Von?

Yeah, it's kind of tough because you feel like I got it, you know, you want to take advantage of stuff, but at the same time, you're like, I don't even like, how do I even show up for this?

• 14:00Speaker 02

Well, that's the thing too, is what I'm realizing is like how important it is to, I mean, your cup's got to be full in order to keep pouring out. You know, and then if you're just pouring out from a half empty cup over and over and over again, at some point in time, the dang thing is gonna run dry.

• 14:15Theo Von?

Oh, you turn into a damn methadone clinic at that point.

• 14:17Speaker 02

Exactly. And you don't want that.

• 14:19Theo Von?

  Nah.

• 14:20Speaker 02

You don't want that. That, that sounds terrible.

• 14:23Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's not preferred.

• 14:24Speaker 02

It's not preferred. And uh, yeah, but I'm, I've learned a lot. Like I feel like, and especially we put out a record last year called Whirlwind. And I think it, it's just funny how even though like music was the, is the thing that like, how can I say it? Is the thing that like um, was about to make me lose my mind, you know? Like all of these opportunities, um, it's still the thing that I ran back to. It was a thing that like helped me kind of navigate that time of my life was writing more music. And just like putting pen to paper and picking up my guitar. That's like, that's what I do when I was nine years old, coming home from school and I didn't know how to, you know, talk about what I wanted to talk about.

• 15:09Theo Von?

Yeah, because you're learning gifted courses. That's why you only had half the damn alphabet.

• 15:12Speaker 02

I mean, I was, I was writing songs about tequila and cigarettes, you know?

• 15:17Theo Von?

  Really?

• 15:17Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 15:19Theo Von?

  As a child?

• 15:20Speaker 02

As a child. Are you worried? Look, that was a concerned look on your face.

• 15:24Theo Von?

I mean, I think I'm worried. I'm also kind of impressed. I'm like, hey dude.

• 15:28Speaker 02

I have one that went like a. My cigarette pack, at ten years old. My cigarette pack is empty, my tequila bottle is gone. Thinking how you duh duh duh and you gone. I keep looking for the future, but it comes to the past. I don't have to think about you no more. Freedom at last.

• 15:50Theo Von?

  No way. Hell, yeah.

• 15:53Speaker 02

People would pull up in the yard, like coming to buy a horse from daddy. And he'd be like, hey, sing them that song you just wrote last week. I'd get on the trampoline, that'd be my stage. I'd say, my cigarette pack is empty.

• 16:06Theo Von?

Just your just, just your big tails are popping about in the back every now and then. Wait till you're at that like crescendo where you're drunk to hit the high notes.

• 16:14Speaker 02

That's right, you do your toe touch.

• 16:17Speaker 02

  Freedom at last.

• 16:20Theo Von?

Freedom at last. That's the best thing, man. That's the most American thing ever. That's the best song. Look at that, is that a picture of you in that red and white on top left?

• 16:30Speaker 02

And I don't know why, but during this one phase of my life, I was doing like this.

• 16:33Theo Von?

  That's you?

• 16:34Speaker 02

  This underbite.

• 16:35Theo Von?

That's you, were you a missing person?

• 16:37Speaker 02

It looks, I look like I need to be on a milk carton, yeah.

• 16:39Theo Von?

  Oh, my God.

• 16:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's me.

• 16:43Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 16:44Speaker 02

  That was our rodeo shirt.

• 16:46Theo Von?

Dude, those rodeo, the rodeo stuff's so great, isn't it? I love the rodeo.

• 16:49Speaker 02

I love the rodeo too. I feel at home with the rodeo.

• 16:52Theo Von?

It's my favorite. I was just watching, now I seem like a real creep, but I was just watching videos. There's some little girl, see if you can find it on my TikTok. I think I shared it yesterday, or maybe I'd have saved it. It's this little girl who just, man, she gets out there and barrel races. She must weigh in forty pounds out there and looks like she has two jobs.

• 17:10Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 17:11Theo Von?

  She's just a savage.

• 17:12Speaker 02

  Knows how to do it.

• 17:13Theo Von?

Yeah, I really love that. Pretty impressive stuff. Yeah, I love the rodeo. I would, I wish I could, if I had like, that would be one thing I would like to invest in a rodeo team. If I could get enough money and then invest in like a rodeo team, you know?

• 17:26Speaker 02

I like that. You let me know when you need some, some more investors.

• 17:29Theo Von?

Yeah, that'd be cool, wouldn't it?

• 17:30Speaker 02

  We'll do it.

• 17:31Theo Von?

Dude, I love the fricking rodeo. Do you really love it or not?

• 17:34Speaker 02

No, I do, I grew up doing it. Um, my daddy is still the, the president of the rodeo committee back at home.

• 17:40Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:40Speaker 02

And so it's like, it's just, there's something about it, even when you just roll up and you just smell it, you know? It's like. I love it. We used to bear a race and we were PRCA flag girls and, and all that. So I'd ride in with the flag and sing the national anthem and screw the lyrics up every single time, every time.

• 18:02Theo Von?

  Really?

• 18:03Speaker 02

Yes, there was a text message, you know, back when there used to be like forward this to 10 people. If you don't, you gonna die kind of thing.

• 18:11Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 18:11Speaker 02

There was a text message going around the arena that ended up making its way to my sister somehow that said, did you hear Lainey Wilson mess up the national anthem? Send this to 10 people. Yes, yes. So I'm like, guess what? You can't hurt me. You know what I'm saying? You can't hurt me.

• 18:31Theo Von?

Yeah, we've been there. Dude, that's the dang gossip superhighway. That's when gossip just hit the dang HOV lane.

• 18:39Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 18:40Theo Von?

I can't believe that that's how it got.

• 18:42Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 18:43Theo Von?

Oh, this is her right here.

• 18:47Speaker 02

  Let's go, girl.

• 18:51Speaker 02

Look, she said, get, get the hat off of me.

• 18:54Theo Von?

  She not even playing, bro.

• 18:56Speaker 02

  Look at her.

• 18:58Theo Von?

That's crazy. And she should do DoorDash. How does she not work for them?

• 19:02Speaker 02

Dude, if she worked for DoorDash, we'd be getting our stuff quick.

• 19:05Theo Von?

Bro, it'd be warm when it got there.

• 19:07Speaker 02

  It would be warm.

• 19:08Theo Von?

Even if it was a cold item, it would be warm.

• 19:12Theo Von?

Look at her, boy. Let's go.

• 19:13Speaker 02

  Incredible.

• 19:14Theo Von?

  Who is that?

• 19:15Speaker 02

  I love that.

• 19:17Theo Von?

  I know.

• 19:17Speaker 02

Little cowgirl. Look at her. Stop.

• 19:23Theo Von?

Pretty cool. That's great. Yeah, I love, I mean, I just met like even just growing up in Louisiana, like, did y'all ever have a parade in y'all's town or not?

• 19:30Speaker 02

  We did our rodeo parade.

• 19:32Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 19:33Speaker 02

And we'd ride through the town and everybody'd come out and we'd throw candy and.

• 19:37Theo Von?

  It was good.

• 19:38Speaker 02

It was. Remember those days? I mean, those were like the good old days.

• 19:42Theo Von?

Picking the candy up off the street, you know?

• 19:45Speaker 02

Did you do a lot of like Mardi Gras parades and stuff like that?

• 19:47Theo Von?

Oh yeah, we did Mardi Gras parades, but the parade in our town, they had like, even the people in it would be like tallest guy in town or whatever, you know?

• 19:56Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 19:57Theo Von?

Yeah, it would be like kid who can walk backwards. Like the shit was like.

• 19:59Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 20:00Theo Von?

  Nah.

• 20:01Speaker 02

That's some South Louisiana stuff. We don't do that kind of stuff in North Louisiana.

• 20:06Theo Von?

First of all, they're not that different than each other, okay?

• 20:09Speaker 02

  Well.

• 20:10Theo Von?

I mean, they are, but we, these are like our heroes in the community or whatever, you know?

• 20:15Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 20:16Theo Von?

No, we had, I'm trying to think of who else we had.

• 20:18Speaker 02

And they would just walk through the parade or like be in a car and wave?

• 20:21Theo Von?

They'd be in a car and say on the side of it, newly single or whatever. Sometimes if you had a little bit of cash, you'd get your daughter out there or whatever.

• 20:26Speaker 02

I like that. I like that.

• 20:28Theo Von?

And that was, that was kind of a good, that was a neat thing, I thought, because it was kind of showcasing the goods of the area, you know? It's really not a bad idea.

• 20:36Speaker 02

Got to shine a light on it.

• 20:38Theo Von?

I mean, that was kind of the original OnlyFans. A little bit was just driving some drive.

• 20:41Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 20:42Theo Von?

I mean, like, you know, kind of more of a Christian OnlyFans version, but driving a decent woman that, buying an open convertible? Yeah.

• 20:49Speaker 02

Sitting up on the back of it?

• 20:51Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 20:51Speaker 02

With the signs down the side?

• 20:53Theo Von?

  That was it.

• 20:53Speaker 02

  Decorated with the Christmas lights?

• 20:55Theo Von?

Yeah. Miss Rabies or whatever. They always had the cra- I'm like, that shouldn't be. You guys should have picked it something else.

• 21:01Speaker 02

  Miss Rabies.

• 21:02Theo Von?

That was always a little bit different.

• 21:04Speaker 02

Well, there is, so there are so many like different festivals in Louisiana, what I've realized, and I got to hang out with them some.

• 21:13Speaker 02

It was like the Duck Queen, the Duck Festival Queen. It was like the Strawberry Festival Queen, the Watermelon Festival Queen. It was like any kind of queen you could think of, any kind of animal or fruit.

• 21:23Theo Von?

  The frog, yeah.

• 21:25Speaker 02

  It exists.

• 21:25Theo Von?

And Rain, they had the Frog Princess or whatever. Yeah, they have like the, um, Mosquita Queen or whatever.

• 21:34Speaker 02

The Armadillo Queen, the Possum Queen.

• 21:36Theo Von?

Just some nervous, this thin girl that's just standing on all fours, just shaking. Yeah, they had, but yeah, there was all that in Louisiana. That was a lot of it. What, um, do you notice like as your career gets busier that like you have to spend so much more time doing the career part?

• 21:54Speaker 02

  Yes, um.

• 21:55Theo Von?

And it changes like, like, like, is there stuff that you miss from like the earlier parts? Like, is there even like little moments?

• 22:01Speaker 02

For sure. I mean, there, things are different, you know? I don't miss going to the grocery store, I'll tell you that.

• 22:07Theo Von?

  You don't?

• 22:08Speaker 02

I don't. I ain't never liked going to the grocery store.

• 22:11Theo Von?

Well, the one area gets so cold or whatever, you gotta go in there to get the cold goods or whatever.

• 22:15Speaker 02

That's right. And you gotta run over to the other side just to warm up.

• 22:17Theo Von?

Yeah. God, I'd be in there looking at something and I'd be like, I'll be right back and I have to go over there. And just go like this by the cereal boxes and then head back over there. Or I'd open up that little, that little chicken warmer thing they got.

• 22:29Speaker 02

  In the rotisserie thing?

• 22:32Theo Von?

  Sometimes they don't lock it.

• 22:34Speaker 02

You can get up in there.

• 22:34Theo Von?

Oh, I'd be, well, I wouldn't get in, but I put my hands in, like, you know.

• 22:37Speaker 02

Oh, I do remember doing that, too.

• 22:39Theo Von?

I cracked it, just kinda, you know.

• 22:40Speaker 02

  In Walmart?

• 22:41Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, dude, I'm the guy, I'm always cold. I feel like I'll be the guy like at a Circle K who have his, both of his hands in that like, uh, little hot dog spinner, whatever.

• 22:50Speaker 02

You are lying. And that's why, that, that right there is why nobody needs to be eating the hot dogs from the convenience stores, because of people like you.

• 22:59Theo Von?

  I'm not touching the franks.

• 23:01Speaker 02

  It don't matter.

• 23:02Theo Von?

I'm just keeping my hands warm. Well, they should have a little warming section right above that for people that are cold.

• 23:07Speaker 02

  They should, they should.

• 23:09Theo Von?

  But, yeah, uh.

• 23:10Speaker 02

  Life has changed.

• 23:11Theo Von?

  Life has changed.

• 23:12Speaker 02

And, I mean, of course, there's things that I miss, but I also know, like, on a serious note, that like, this, this is my calling.

• 23:21Theo Von?

  Right.

• 23:21Speaker 02

You know, and I knew that at a very early age, and so, I, I just think like with anything in life, there are times when there are things you just kinda have to like give up, and,

• 23:33Speaker 02

and so I'm okay with that, because this is, this is what I feel like I was like born to do and made to do, and so, um.

• 23:41Theo Von?

  Yeah, it changes. Things change.

• 23:42Speaker 02

  Yeah, they do.

• 23:43Theo Von?

I know, it's kinda tou- it's tough sometimes, because you wanna be that, you wanna be the same person, but also who you are changes, and you grow up, and things are different.

• 23:50Speaker 02

That's right, and you know, like, I didn't really like sign up to be a businesswoman or whatever, but, you kinda have to be. You have to like rise to the occasion, and other opportunities have, have come my way, and I'd be silly not to, you know, to hear what it's about and, and take that step.

• 24:08Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 24:09Speaker 02

So I thought when growing up, you know, when I was jumping on the trampoline and singing "Freedom at Last", I thought that I was just gonna be writing music and playing shows and bouncing around and, um. That's not it at all. This is like eighty percent business and twenty percent music, but I'm willing to do the eighty percent business so I can do the twenty percent music.

• 24:31Theo Von?

  Amen.

• 24:32Speaker 02

  You know?

• 24:33Theo Von?

It really is. It changes. In the beginning, it's just all, it's mostly all the music, I guess. Or actually, I don't know if now, maybe it hasn't merged more. Like, you have to make your own flyers. I remember having to make my own flyers at home and like trying to figure them out on the computer and stuff.

• 24:46Speaker 02

Yes. My granny used to make these little like CD covers and little stickers.

• 24:52Theo Von?

  Who did?

• 24:52Speaker 02

  My granny.

• 24:53Theo Von?

She would make, oh, make little items for you?

• 24:55Speaker 02

Like print them off on the computer. Like, we'd burn the CDs where I'd recorded some songs.

• 24:59Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah. That CD burner?

• 25:01Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 25:02Theo Von?

Dude, I found a triple decker CD burner one time. That thing had three rows in it.

• 25:07Speaker 02

  What in the world?

• 25:09Theo Von?

  God, baby, we're doing it.

• 25:10Speaker 02

Look, my daddy found a burnt CD of ours that had Colt forty-five on it. He popped it in the CD player and listened to it. You remember that song?

• 25:18Theo Von?

  Mm-mm.

• 25:19Speaker 02

Colt forty-five, two zigzag. Baby, that's all we need. We can go to the park after dark, smoke that tomfo we.

• 25:27Theo Von?

Yeah, then I have heard this, dude. Unless somebody stole that beat from them.

• 25:31Speaker 02

At the marijuana bar, we can take our time singing them dirty rap songs. Stop to hit the bong like T-10 Jones. They'll taste from here to Hong Kong.

• 25:39Theo Von?

  Let's go.

• 25:39Speaker 02

So, roll, roll. Anyway, daddy put that into the, uh...

• 25:43Theo Von?

I have to have heard this, huh?

• 25:44Speaker 02

CD player. And he about had a heart attack.

• 25:47Theo Von?

  It's Afra Man?

• 25:48Speaker 02

  It's Afra Man.

• 25:49Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 25:50Speaker 02

Next time I see you, you better have learned every lyric to this song.

• 25:54Theo Von?

Okay, that's fair. I promise y'all will. I will learn every...

• 25:58Speaker 02

We need to play it at a show. You need to come up at a show and we do Colt forty-five.

• 26:01Theo Von?

  Okay, okay. I'll do it.

• 26:04Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 26:05Theo Von?

As long as your dad will dang two-step over there on the side a little.

• 26:08Speaker 02

Oh, my gosh. He gonna have a heart attack.

• 26:10Theo Von?

And we'll get the trampoline out there, too, I think, you know? I'll jump on it.

• 26:14Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 26:16Theo Von?

Dude, I love this. I saw Afra Man at a frat party one time up in, uh, at University of Mississippi and he was like so high or whatever on stage. He hit, he hit a note that just shook him a little and he, uh, had just vomited in his own hat. And just threw it and some like, uh, some freshman kid just was like excited. I think he thought it was just a hat, not that a hat that had vomit in it.

• 26:37Speaker 02

Stop. And he put it on?

• 26:39Theo Von?

  No, he just caught it.

• 26:40Speaker 02

  Okay, okay, okay.

• 26:41Theo Von?

If he put it on, the guy's damn... He's just waterboarding himself out there. But yeah, Afro Man, that's, that guy's played everywhere, huh?

• 26:50Speaker 02

  I guess so.

• 26:51Theo Von?

He's played everywhere. Colt forty-five, I don't remember it, but I believe that it happened. Cause I got high, I remember that was like his big hit.

• 26:58Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 26:58Theo Von?

La da da, da da da. Yeah, I remember that. I was gonna go to work.

• 27:04Speaker 02

  Till I got out.

• 27:07Speaker 02

  And those were the jams.

• 27:09Theo Von?

Oh, those were the jams, man. That was it.

• 27:11Speaker 02

But my daddy like, he like tore up the CD and you know, he's like, you ain't gonna be singing stuff like this at this age. But it was okay for me to write about tequila and cigarettes, you know, and be like, hey, play that song.

• 27:24Theo Von?

I guess as long as you were like the person writing, then it made everything okay, you know?

• 27:27Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's right, that's right.

• 27:31Theo Von?

Remember the nineties Dallas Cowboys? The three-time Super Bowl champs, the team everybody wanted to beat and nobody could stop. The heartbeat of that team came from the players, the wild, talented crew who turned every game into a spectacle and every Sunday into a showdown. And the new Netflix docu-series, America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, is about those legends who strapped on the pads and made history one play at a time. We're talking Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Deion Sanders, prime time himself. They weren't just athletes, they were icons who turned the Cowboys into a brotherhood, fighting for every inch, every win, every ring.

• 29:38Theo Von?

The doc goes deep on how these stars clashed, bonded, and drove each other to greatness. You'll see the rivalries, the friendships, the wild nights, and the hard hits. You'll hear it straight from the legends themselves. They'll teach you what it was really like in the locker room, on the field, and under those bright Texas lights. With never-before-seen footage and raw, honest interviews, this series puts you right in the huddle, where legends were made, and where the Dallas Cowboys became the most valuable team in sports. So if you ever wondered why folks still yell, "How about them Cowboys?", tune in August 19th, only on Netflix. This is their story. This is football, Texas-style.

• 30:20Theo Von?

I'm not home a lot, but when I am, my bedroom is my sleep sanctuary. Yep, I put my earplugs in, I put my prayers up, and bam, baby, I hit the hay. And the mattress is at the heart of that sleep space. That's especially true now that I have a Helix Sleep mattress. Mmm, it's good. In fact, I like it so much, I got two of them. Because honestly, sleep matters more to me than ever. Especially when I'm on the road all the time, or I'm on the go. The one thing that's consistent is putting my head down and getting some rest. Some hotel beds can feel like you're sleeping on cardboard, or you're sleeping on somebody else's back, and their back is nasty.

• 31:04Theo Von?

So it feels great to go home and sleep on a mattress that feels like you're being hugged by a cloud. That's my Helix. If your old mattress is leaving you sore, restless, or just worn out, it's probably time to give Helix a try. You can sleep great, too. Just go to helixsleep.com/theo to get 20% off sitewide, for our audience only. That's H-E-L-I-X sleep.com/theo. And make sure to enter our show name at checkout, so they know we sent you.

• 31:39Theo Von?

  So it's Whirlwind Deluxe.

• 31:40Speaker 02

  Whirlwind Deluxe.

• 31:41Theo Von?

  And it's out right now.

• 31:42Speaker 02

  And it's out right now.

• 31:43Theo Von?

And there's new songs on it.

• 31:45Speaker 02

There's new songs on it. There is several new songs on it. So when I was writing Whirlwind, like I was saying earlier, it was like during that time of my life that was chaotic when you were asking if that was okay.

• 31:59Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 32:00Speaker 02

And um, and then I felt like after the dust kind of settled after I put that record out, um, I had a minute to really just kind of like, just get my stuff together. And these were the songs that I wrote, but I still felt like it was kind of connected to the tail end of the whirlwind. So felt like they were still in that family. And so I just wanted to, you know, add a little bit to the story. And so they're out. I'm so proud of them. Um, one of my favorite songs I've ever written is on there. It's called Peace, Love and Cowboys.

• 32:31Theo Von?

  Hmm.

• 32:31Speaker 02

  And it's a, it's a bop.

• 32:36Theo Von?

How'd you, what made you feel like it was your favorite? Kind of like, did you just know?

• 32:39Speaker 02

I don't know. It's just that, that feeling. It's like when you're writing the song, everybody in the room has, has that feeling. It's like the Holy Spirit. It's like you just feel it.

• 32:48Theo Von?

  Hmm.

• 32:48Speaker 02

Um, and you just kind of feel like the song's gonna be around for a long time.

• 32:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 32:53Speaker 02

Even if that just means that like you're gonna sing it thirty, fifty years from now. And so that's how I felt about it. I was like, I'd be okay with singing this song for the rest of forever.

• 33:04Theo Von?

Hmm. Yeah, you kind of have to, I guess, and you have some truck songs already. You feel like you can't do any more vehicle songs?

• 33:11Speaker 02

I got a vehicle song on this deluxe. Don't you even play. I'm doing what I said I'd never do.

• 33:18Theo Von?

  Shotgun.

• 33:19Speaker 02

One called, uh, King Ranch, King George, King James.

• 33:23Theo Von?

  King what?

• 33:23Speaker 02

King Ranch, King George, King James.

• 33:25Theo Von?

Hmm, alright. God, I want some of that.

• 33:29Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 33:30Theo Von?

  Yeah, I got a hard, like a damn F-150 hybrid, I think.

• 33:33Speaker 02

  Do you? A hybrid?

• 33:35Theo Von?

Breaks down a lot. Them bitches will break down, dude. And they will, actually.

• 33:40Speaker 02

Oh, my gosh. Heart Like a Prius.

• 33:42Theo Von?

Oh, that's a song yours? Hot Like a Prius?

• 33:45Speaker 02

  Heart Like a Prius.

• 33:46Theo Von?

Oh, Heart Like a Priest. Oh, yeah. What about, uh, look up some, um, Lainey Wilson songs that she'd nev- the titles of songs she's never done.

• 33:53Speaker 02

  Oh, shit.

• 33:54Theo Von?

Use perplexity and see what they got. Pick up whiskey on a Wednesday.

• 34:00Speaker 02

Look at twang in my bones.

• 34:02Theo Von?

Twang in my bones, that's good.

• 34:05Speaker 02

I got that twang in my bones.

• 34:10Theo Von?

I think you need an MRI, bro, if you have a twang in your bones.

• 34:15Speaker 02

Dixie moonlight daydreams. My God, is this what people think of me? Mason jar miracles.

• 34:22Theo Von?

Hey, those are some good peaches.

• 34:24Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 34:25Theo Von?

Kissed by kudzu, just sounds like you need some damn Calamine lotion, that's all it is.

• 34:29Speaker 02

  Kissed by your cousin.

• 34:30Theo Von?

Yeah, kissed by your kudzen. It's just some guy who has a kudzu rash on. He's so inflamed from the kudzu, you can't even tell if you're related or not.

• 34:43Theo Von?

Kissed by my kudzen. That's a good one.

• 34:45Speaker 02

  Kudzen.

• 34:46Theo Von?

See if they make them sillier, if you look up goofier ones.

• 34:52Theo Von?

  There you go.

• 34:53Speaker 02

  Honky tonk hiccups.

• 34:54Theo Von?

  Honky tonk hiccups is good.

• 34:55Speaker 02

  That is hilarious.

• 34:56Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 34:57Speaker 02

But it'd have to be honky tonk hiccups.

• 35:01Theo Von?

  Sand in boots.

• 35:06Theo Von?

  They should have.

• 35:07Speaker 02

Dude, there has been a time where I thought I was about to have hiccups on stage. Oh, yeah.

• 35:13Theo Von?

And what do you have to do to... Oh, I think you're supposed to eat a bunch of sugar or something, right?

• 35:16Speaker 02

  I do that anyway.

• 35:18Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah, alright.

• 35:19Speaker 02

So I ought to be clear, but, uh, no, and then there was one time where I was like, I don't know what's happening, but I feel like I'm about to burp, I'm feeling, I don't know. And it's just like you have to just get it off your, like somehow get it off your mind.

• 35:33Theo Von?

  Right.

• 35:34Speaker 02

Just like start staring at somebody or you're about to sneeze.

• 35:37Theo Von?

  Oh, the craziest.

• 35:38Speaker 02

  That feeling.

• 35:39Theo Von?

One guy came to get, like, was it somebody who's introduced me to their, uh, to their friend the other day, and the guy just kind of came in for, and as he's coming in for like a close like handshake thing, I was just going into a sneeze. I didn't know what he...

• 35:50Speaker 02

  No, you did not.

• 35:51Theo Von?

I'd sneeze right into him, sneeze right into the guy. Yeah, and I think that's like a mating call in some cultures, whatever. I didn't mean it to be, but I, it just was like, I don't know.

• 36:00Speaker 02

  What did he do?

• 36:01Theo Von?

Huh? What did he do? He just kind of went like that, I don't know, what would he do? He was, he wasn't stoked, he wasn't upset, he was, he was understanding, but it was, you know.

• 36:11Speaker 02

Did you say I'm sorry or just like, thank you?

• 36:13Theo Von?

I was like, well, what do you expect, you know?

• 36:18Theo Von?

So then that's what I think about the government. That's what I said.

• 36:22Speaker 02

  Oh my gosh.

• 36:24Theo Von?

What are some of the goofier titles? Bring them back up.

• 36:27Speaker 02

Oh my gosh. Lasso my latte.

• 36:31Theo Von?

  Ooh, that's a good one.

• 36:32Speaker 02

That's what you doing over there, right there.

• 36:33Theo Von?

  God, I need that.

• 36:34Speaker 02

  Lasso that latte.

• 36:35Theo Von?

Boot scootin' wifi is pretty good.

• 36:40Speaker 02

Hold up. Gravy on my guitar. It just reminds me. Hardy took me and some of my crew to a strip club in Huntsville.

• 36:52Speaker 02

And they have biscuits and gravy night.

• 36:56Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 36:56Theo Von?

  Oh, that's great, huh?

• 36:58Speaker 02

  On Thursday nights.

• 36:59Theo Von?

And how much is it? Is it pricey over there?

• 37:02Speaker 02

Well, he gave me a hundred ones and it was like, have fun. It was like my end of tour gift.

• 37:08Theo Von?

And you're over there just buying biscuits and gravy?

• 37:10Speaker 02

Well, it wasn't biscuits and gravy night that night. We had just missed it. This was like a Friday night or something.

• 37:14Theo Von?

  Oh, got it.

• 37:15Speaker 02

  But.

• 37:16Theo Von?

Huh. I've seen them do bingo night at a strip club too, which is kinda cool. Cause everybody will get right up there and be using their blotters and stuff. And some of the Christian women will even blot out their eyes so they don't see all the sexual stuff.

• 37:31Speaker 02

Uncle Buck's Booby Bungalow. That's it right there.

• 37:33Theo Von?

  Is that what it's called?

• 37:34Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 37:35Theo Von?

Uncle Buck's Booby Bungalow. And they got biscuits and gravy. What night is that on?

• 37:38Speaker 02

Yeah, we're gonna have to ride on down there.

• 37:40Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 37:41Speaker 02

Ride on down there. Load up. Load up.

• 37:44Theo Von?

I'll take Tex for one last ride down there to Huntsville.

• 37:50Theo Von?

God, I'm trying to think of what food goes good with a, with a good tit or whatever, kind of. I shouldn't even say, but you know.

• 38:00Speaker 02

  Anything.

• 38:03Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 38:05Speaker 02

Well, supposedly, I don't know if this is true or not, but they were like, y'all gotta come back for biscuits and gravy night, blah, blah, blah. And I thought, oh, that's, that's nice, you know, sit around, eat some biscuits and gravy. No, they're rolling around in the gravy and people are throwing the biscuits.

• 38:20Theo Von?

  No.

• 38:21Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 38:22Theo Von?

Oh yeah, I don't want that. My mother loves biscuit, biscuits and gravy. If I took her and you didn't get to eat it, she would be upset. Oh, this is Uncle Buck's third annual biscuits and gravy rasslin'.

• 38:33Speaker 02

  Rasslin'.

• 38:36Speaker 02

I love how they spelled wrestling.

• 38:38Theo Von?

Well, the recipe better be good, because I'll tell you this, if I'm even that close to biscuits and gravy.

• 38:42Speaker 02

  I'm eating.

• 38:43Theo Von?

  Yeah, I'm have a little.

• 38:45Speaker 02

  I'mma have a little. I'mma have me a bite.

• 38:48Theo Von?

You telling me somebody ain't gonna whip something around fast enough? Or just something's gonna land in my mouth, honey?

• 38:55Speaker 02

  You dang right.

• 38:56Theo Von?

God, I just hope it's sausage gravy too. I really like that.

• 39:00Theo Von?

Um, what about Halloween? What was y'all's Halloween like growing up? Do you remember that over there?

• 39:06Speaker 02

I mean, we'd go to like-

• 39:07Theo Von?

Did y'all even trick or treat? Was it, was there not enough folks?

• 39:09Speaker 02

We'd have to go to Monroe to trick or treat, because that was like the biggest town. We'd just go to like random subdivisions and, you know.

• 39:15Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. Go to the rich subdivisions?

• 39:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 39:17Theo Von?

People that had lights out in front of their house?

• 39:19Speaker 02

Oh, yeah. I was like, oh, these people got money.

• 39:21Theo Von?

  Oh, dude, we-

• 39:23Speaker 02

When I got a pumpkin too.

• 39:24Theo Von?

We had electricity inside our house, yeah, like normal people.

• 39:27Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 39:28Theo Von?

But some people had a light right outside of their front door, and I was like, you gotta be effing kidding.

• 39:32Speaker 02

I know. I was like, must be nice.

• 39:34Theo Von?

Must be nice to open your front door and see what's happening in the world at night.

• 39:40Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 39:41Theo Von?

That kinda shit pissed me off, dude.

• 39:43Speaker 02

I know, I know. But we would, like, some years, like, I lived on this one road that we just had a few neighbors. And so we'd go like see my granny, and we'd go see, you know, the Olivos, and we'd go down the road and see the Graysons and-

• 39:57Theo Von?

And would everybody dress up or no?

• 39:59Speaker 02

  Me and my sister would.

• 40:00Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 40:01Speaker 02

Yeah. Did you dress up for Halloween?

• 40:03Theo Von?

Yeah, I dressed up. I had some all, kinda alternative, you, or not, like, like, our mom was always working, so we'd have to get dressed up, like, our dad was like in charge of getting us dressed up or whatever, and he was like seventy-five years old or whatever, so he didn't know what was going on. Um, what was I, oh, I remember one year I was a ghost, but I was like too scared to stand on the sheet or whatever.

• 40:23Speaker 02

No, you were, you were like claustrophobic?

• 40:25Theo Von?

Yeah, or I was just like, I'd be like, ooh, but then I'd lift it up and be like, it's, you know, I'm under here, it's me. Like, I would scare myself, you know?

• 40:32Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 40:33Theo Von?

Oh, I definitely remember that, dude. I was like, I cannot be a ghost anymore. Um, what else? I was a wheelchair. One year I had a little chair, like a kid's chair, that we put like around a rope on my neck, and I carried two bike tires with me. It was pretty cute.

• 40:45Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 40:47Theo Von?

  I swear.

• 40:48Speaker 02

You needed to be in that parade.

• 40:50Theo Von?

I was, dude, what are you talking about?

• 40:52Speaker 02

It's that parade that went through your town? That's the parade you needed to be in.

• 40:55Theo Von?

Tallest kid, best lisp. He always got his own car in that parade.

• 41:00Speaker 02

  Dang it.

• 41:00Theo Von?

He's over there just trying to whistle at people.

• 41:05Speaker 02

We might have been from the same town.

• 41:06Theo Von?

I do. Yeah, there's, there was something nice about that. Or somebody that had too many freckles, they'd put them in the parade sometimes. You know, there'd always be some girl named Abigail or something that had too many dang freckles.

• 41:16Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 41:18Theo Von?

Dude, I'll tell you something that was amazing was I was in, I had a show in Winnipeg, Canada. After the show, they said, there's some people here that are actors in town that were doing a show here and they wanted to come and say hello. And I got to meet the people from Little House on the Prairie, they're redoing it. Remember that show?

• 41:36Speaker 02

  That's cool.

• 41:37Theo Von?

  Yeah. They're redoing it.

• 41:39Speaker 02

That's cool. So when's that happening?

• 41:41Theo Von?

It's coming out. And I got to go to set the next day, too.

• 41:45Speaker 02

  What was that like?

• 41:47Theo Von?

  Awesome.

• 41:48Speaker 02

Was it just like even the, like, the clothes and everything, just seeing like from a different time?

• 41:53Theo Von?

  Everything.

• 41:54Speaker 02

  Period pieces?

• 41:55Theo Von?

  There they are.

• 41:56Speaker 02

  That's gonna be incredible.

• 41:58Theo Von?

  And, yeah, the reboot is-

• 42:00Speaker 02

You think you'd ever want to be in something like that?

• 42:02Theo Von?

I don't know. I met the man who's doing Charles Ingalls and he's, I would have to be his brother that was in an accident or something. Because he's really got the looks all locked up, you know? You ever meet someone like that? They're so good. They keep all the good looks to themselves, you know?

• 42:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 42:19Theo Von?

  They're over there just-

• 42:20Speaker 02

There's a lot of people like that.

• 42:22Theo Von?

Yeah. They're over there looking at photos of themselves and shit and just hiding from mirrors, you know?

• 42:26Speaker 02

Exactly. I want, just turn the light out.

• 42:30Theo Von?

I'm over there just buying five watt bulbs for my house, you know, just trying to keep my own reflection away from me.

• 42:36Speaker 02

  Amen.

• 42:37Theo Von?

Were you in pageants growing up? You were in pageants, yeah?

• 42:39Speaker 02

I was in one pageant. And it was a Farm Bureau pageant. My mama, back in the day, was the Farm Bureau clean. And so she was like, you know, I'd love for you to be in the Farm Bureau pageant. And so the onstage question was, um, what does agriculture mean to you? And I think I had one line and I think it was what really sealed the deal. And I said, agriculture is the backbone of America. And then I think they just said, give it to her. Give it to her. Give it to her. Um, yeah, that's pretty much what I was right there.

• 43:18Theo Von?

Oh my God, you won it.

• 43:20Speaker 02

I won the Franklin Parish one. Um,

• 43:23Theo Von?

  It's big, though.

• 43:24Speaker 02

That's big, boy. But my sister, she went through a little phase where she was doing some pageants. And- This is hilarious, but she was doing the watermelon pageant. I think that's in Ruston, Louisiana. And she gets up to the microphone and she goes, "I'm Jana Wilson, Kunkaskan Kent number three." And then in the microphone, she goes, "Shit."

• 43:51Speaker 02

Walks off. She definitely didn't win.

• 43:53Theo Von?

Yeah. But she won a lot of people's hearts that day.

• 43:56Speaker 02

  Kunkaskan Kent.

• 43:58Theo Von?

Oh, if you's a dang Kunkaskan Kent. Oh, we had, oh, that's beautiful.

• 44:04Speaker 02

She was in another one and they, it was a junior miss pageant and they asked her, they said, "What does going green mean to you?" And she goes, "Don't pollute."

• 44:14Speaker 02

She's off. Didn't win that one either.

• 44:16Theo Von?

God dang dude. Y'all needed what y'all needed was like a, a, like kind of a question, answer groomer or something.

• 44:23Speaker 02

  I know.

• 44:24Theo Von?

  Y'all didn't practice.

• 44:25Speaker 02

We needed, we needed a coach.

• 44:26Theo Von?

Yeah, y'all needed a damn coach.

• 44:27Speaker 02

We just like had the bullet points, you know what I'm saying? Just one bullet point.

• 44:33Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 44:34Theo Von?

  That's awesome, dude.

• 44:35Speaker 02

  Just get to the point.

• 44:36Theo Von?

Yeah, that's it, honey. We don't not wasting anybody's time up here.

• 44:39Speaker 02

  Don't pollute.

• 44:40Theo Von?

Yeah, we gotta get these crops out of the ground.

• 44:42Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 44:42Theo Von?

We do not have time to waste. Yeah. Did you, um, did you ever, did you tune in with a lot of that Jamboné stuff? Did you ever tune in with it?

• 44:50Speaker 02

I, you know what, like I remember, being a kid, I remember a little something about all that. But is there a new like show or something that's out about it right now?

• 45:00Theo Von?

No, I don't think so. And there was one that came out like last year.

• 45:03Speaker 02

  Was it?

• 45:04Theo Von?

And I watched it. Yeah. And I mean, I, I think it's one of those weird things. Cause like a kid, a little kid was like this, you know, like, and so I started thinking about it. I think, and I know he's not gonna be happy to hear me say this. And I'd love to have him come on the podcast and talk about it sometime. Uh, the dad did it.

• 45:21Speaker 02

  Really?

• 45:22Theo Von?

I shouldn't have said that or he might've come on.

• 45:25Speaker 02

Really? So did they, they did find her though?

• 45:27Theo Von?

I don't think you did it, sir.

• 45:29Speaker 02

  Did they find her?

• 45:30Theo Von?

Yeah, they found her. They found her. She wasn't alive when they found her. Some people think she's still alive. Um, but yeah, anyway, sorry to bring the buzz down. I just didn't know if.

• 45:42Speaker 02

That was so, what year was that? It was like early nineties? Ninety-six?

• 45:47Theo Von?

  Ooh, ninety-six, baby. Dang.

• 45:49Speaker 02

  That is so strange.

• 45:50Theo Von?

  I know.

• 45:51Speaker 02

  Strange.

• 45:52Theo Von?

But did you get caught up like that? Was there people in there out there where you're like, oh, this kid? You know, like, did you, were you guys that deep in the trenches of it?

• 46:00Speaker 02

Oh, no. No, no, no, no. We like went to the consignment shop, shop and bought, you know,

• 46:07Speaker 02

bought the dress they had. And that's the one I wore. You know what I'm saying?

• 46:11Theo Von?

Yeah, you guys were just kind of last minute pageant, baby.

• 46:13Speaker 02

We're just like, or a double up, like if, for the Farm Bureau pageant, I was like, I'm gonna wear my prom dress for, like I'm on, we gotta get our money's worth, you know?

• 46:23Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 46:24Speaker 02

  So, that's what I did.

• 46:25Theo Von?

  I like that.

• 46:27Speaker 02

  That's what I did.

• 46:29Theo Von?

  I like that.

• 46:30Speaker 02

  Were you ever in pageants?

• 46:31Theo Von?

No, we didn't have that. They did have a good, but I didn't have any direction as a child and I did get to dress myself for photo days and stuff like that.

• 46:39Speaker 02

Did you? Like, what would you put on?

• 46:41Theo Von?

I'd do a tank top sometimes. I would do.

• 46:44Speaker 02

  Tank top?

• 46:45Theo Von?

Yeah, I did one year, I did a costume like kind of thing, like a, um.

• 46:50Speaker 02

  The wheelchair costume?

• 46:51Theo Von?

No, skeleton. And then one year, one year I did do a nice outfit. It was kind of like a bow tie and stuff like that. Maybe see if you can search that up real quick. See if you can find me in a little bow tie.

• 47:01Speaker 02

Let's go. You were like, I'm gonna dress nice today.

• 47:04Theo Von?

Yeah. Well, I'd seen somebody else dress nice and I was like, oh, I see what they're doing.

• 47:08Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 47:09Theo Von?

I see what these bastards are doing.

• 47:10Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 47:12Theo Von?

  Oh, there's one.

• 47:14Theo Von?

That's when I lived in Russia for a little while. Different times.

• 47:19Speaker 02

  Right there.

• 47:19Theo Von?

Yeah, there you go, boy. Look at that ear pierce too, boy.

• 47:24Speaker 02

That hair. I had glasses too. I was blind as a bat. That's actually me. That's me.

• 47:30Theo Von?

What if they had a picture of you and I looked the same?

• 47:34Speaker 02

  We brother and sister. Man.

• 47:37Theo Von?

God, those are the days. That was fun.

• 47:40Speaker 02

  Look at that.

• 47:41Theo Von?

Being alive, piercing your own ear. Did you do that?

• 47:43Speaker 02

Did you pierce your own ear?

• 47:45Theo Von?

  Yeah, dude.

• 47:45Speaker 02

  What'd you pierce it with?

• 47:45Theo Von?

What are you talking about? I'm a man.

• 47:48Speaker 02

I did not. I went to the Claire's in the mall.

• 47:51Theo Von?

  Y'all did? God.

• 47:52Speaker 02

I was just a little baby. My mama got my ears pierced when I was like a few months old.

• 47:56Theo Von?

  Uh-uh, really?

• 47:57Speaker 02

Brought me home and my daddy was mad.

• 48:02Theo Von?

Yeah, now you got it looking like a... It is kind of crazy. Your kid can't even see that good and you got dang, you know, you got a...

• 48:09Speaker 02

  Earrings.

• 48:10Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 48:11Speaker 02

  Like feather earrings.

• 48:12Theo Von?

You got some big hoops coming off or something.

• 48:15Speaker 02

  Hey.

• 48:16Theo Von?

What's the youngest you can get a child's ears pierced? In America? There's gotta be a two week.

• 48:23Speaker 02

  I don't know.

• 48:24Theo Von?

There's gotta be like a catch and release type of thing or something. What's the youngest age to pierce a child's ear?

• 48:30Speaker 02

  Two months.

• 48:31Theo Von?

  What is it?

• 48:32Speaker 02

  Around two to four.

• 48:35Theo Von?

  After that vaccine, it says.

• 48:37Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 48:37Theo Von?

Cause I guess that they put in that metal or semi precious metal through your ear.

• 48:42Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 48:43Theo Von?

You can't be allergic to things that are semi precious.

• 48:45Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 48:47Theo Von?

So. That's it. When you're torn, are you choosing places to go now? Or like, what's that like?

• 48:54Speaker 02

Well, it's kind of like mapped out to the point where it's like, and I don't know how it is for you. It's like, we want to try to make sure that, you know, we're letting the demand build back up in that city and things like that. And then, um, trying to make sure that we are going to different places, you know, kind of like popping in some of these little corners that we hadn't really got to hit just yet.

• 49:15Speaker 02

So yeah, it's like a, it's a team effort of just figuring out where we're going. We're about to go back to Australia.

• 49:20Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:20Speaker 02

  You been to Australia?

• 49:21Theo Von?

So good. Did you go to Bondi Beach?

• 49:24Speaker 02

I have not been to Bondi.

• 49:25Theo Von?

Bring it up real quick. Just so you don't forget to go. It's worth going. It's like eighteen minutes outside of Sydney.

• 49:31Speaker 02

Okay. And you just take a ferry?

• 49:33Theo Von?

No, you can drive right there.

• 49:34Speaker 02

  Oh, really?

• 49:35Theo Von?

It's the most beautiful beach I've seen. That's not like a super tropical place, if that makes any sense.

• 49:41Speaker 02

Got it. So it's kind of like a city on the beach.

• 49:43Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:45Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 49:46Theo Von?

  It's a pretty.

• 49:46Speaker 02

Man, I'd love to do that.

• 49:48Theo Von?

If you have a family and stuff, do you think you'll raise them over there in Nashville or not? Do you know?

• 49:51Speaker 02

  I will.

• 49:52Theo Von?

  You will?

• 49:53Speaker 02

I will. I think Nashville is just a good spot, like even if, you know, music wasn't a thing. I think it's just, I think they got like good schools and,

• 50:03Speaker 02

and I feel like you can go far out, right now, you can go far out enough on any side and still feel like you're in the country, you know? I wanna, I wanna raise my kids like I did, like playing in the dirt and, I don't know, I just want them to like be outside and, and do the things that we grew up doing, you know what I'm saying? And like, just enjoy those things too, cause, man, you see these kids at these supper tables on their iPads and on cell phones. I'm like, oh gosh.

• 50:33Theo Von?

Grilling like digital meats and stuff on there.

• 50:36Speaker 02

Yeah. We, we, me and Duck took some kids that he coached last year to eat Mexican food not too long ago and these two little boys across from us.

• 50:50Theo Von?

  That's like,

• 50:53Theo Von?

that's kind of like, that's Louisiana way of kind of saying we're having a United Nations meeting.

• 50:57Speaker 02

  Exactly. That's what was happening.

• 50:59Theo Von?

  Look, look, honey, look.

• 51:01Speaker 02

Yeah, but these, these two boys sitting across from us, they were twins and they were just like, for seventeen years old, like carrying on, great conversation, making eye contact, like it was, you could just tell that they were like raised right. And then I realized, they, they said they had never had social media. And I was like,

• 51:26Speaker 02

that's why you can carry on a conversation? Dang, dang.

• 51:31Theo Von?

Well, a lot of people are homeschooling their kids now too. And keeping everything away from them, you know?

• 51:38Speaker 02

Which I'm not trying to like, you know, keep everything away from them because I think then you kind of mess up, you know?

• 51:45Theo Von?

Well, they said there's pedophiles in the roadblocks now. That's what I heard yesterday.

• 51:51Theo Von?

You know, that's I'm and I, yeah, I've heard it.

• 51:53Speaker 02

  Uh huh. They're everywhere.

• 51:55Theo Von?

Well, yeah, but I didn't think they were in the Roblox, honey, you know? I know they're out in these streets. Roblox facing mounting lawsuits as parents across US.

• 52:03Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 52:04Theo Von?

  Company enables child predators.

• 52:05Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 52:06Theo Von?

So I just want you to think I'm making that up.

• 52:08Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 52:09Theo Von?

Uh, that's how I feel too. I discontinued my account. I just only had it for two weeks.

• 52:13Speaker 02

You have to be protecting and watching like.

• 52:19Theo Von?

That's what I'm saying. You could do homeschooling.

• 52:21Speaker 02

I want you to homeschool my kids.

• 52:25Speaker 02

I'd love for you. Uncle Theo.

• 52:29Theo Von?

  Aight.

• 52:32Theo Von?

Dude, that would be so great.

• 52:34Speaker 02

  That would be terrible.

• 52:36Theo Von?

What are you talking about, man?

• 52:38Speaker 02

You would teach them something. You would teach them. You would educate them.

• 52:41Theo Von?

  Oh, hell yeah, boy.

• 52:43Speaker 02

  You would educate them.

• 52:44Theo Von?

I'd teach them how to do CPR.

• 52:46Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 52:47Theo Von?

With a unique style that a lot of people don't do.

• 52:51Speaker 02

  Which is what?

• 52:52Theo Von?

A lot of people breathe straight into the lungs. I kind of take a roundabout pattern.

• 52:55Speaker 02

What are you like people's elbow on or something?

• 52:57Theo Von?

I was saying, I do different stuff.

• 52:59Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 52:59Theo Von?

  But.

• 53:00Speaker 02

  Are you really certified?

• 53:02Theo Von?

Decent success rate. Yeah, I'm certified in CPR, honey.

• 53:06Speaker 02

Are you really? I need to see like a badge or something.

• 53:10Speaker 02

  I don't believe it.

• 53:11Theo Von?

  Hey, hey, hey, man.

• 53:12Speaker 02

I'm deputized. Did you know that?

• 53:14Theo Von?

  I couldn't believe that. Look.

• 53:16Speaker 02

  I'm deputized.

• 53:17Theo Von?

  Are you?

• 53:17Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 53:18Theo Von?

Just by somebody in town that was a sheriff gave you one?

• 53:20Speaker 02

In Richland Parish. They asked my daddy to be a deputy. You better quit. And, uh, and then daddy was like, I'll do it if Laney can do it.

• 53:31Theo Von?

  Yeah, I love that.

• 53:32Speaker 02

So I went up there and got sworn in.

• 53:34Theo Von?

Did you? I love that, dude. I was at a Vols game like probably a year and a half ago and some guy out there, some, and I will say he was in, I won't say he was an alcoholic, but he had drunk a lot and he probably drunk most of his life. And, um, you could tell because some of his kids didn't even talk to him or whatever. But anyway, what I was saying was, he was like, kind of, uh, he was getting drunk and I said, I, I'm gonna go downstairs and say to somebody. And he goes, well, look, man, if you have any trouble down there, he goes, I'm a sheriff. Just flash my badge, you know?

• 54:02Speaker 02

  Mm hmm.

• 54:03Theo Von?

So this guy gave me a sheriff's badge, right? Swear. So I didn't know how they work or whatever. So I'm down there talking and then something happened in this area. Where like some people started like we're kind of talking shit to each other and stuff. So I just break this thing out, right? I swear.

• 54:19Speaker 02

You had the right to moon solid.

• 54:21Theo Von?

  No, I didn't do that.

• 54:24Theo Von?

  I'm not a cop.

• 54:27Theo Von?

I'm a sheriff, dude. I'm just, sheriffs just raise the badge.

• 54:30Speaker 02

  That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right.

• 54:31Theo Von?

Yeah. And then they go get something to eat.

• 54:35Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 54:36Theo Von?

But I flashed that thing and then a real cop of a female, a police officer. Kind of like pushed me up against the wall and she's like, what's going on here? And they, she like, uh, was like reprimanding me for having a fake identification or whatever. And I was like, the guy gave it to me, you know? But it was spooky for a minute. I thought they were gonna take me.

• 54:58Speaker 02

You thought you were really about to get in trouble.

• 55:00Theo Von?

  Yeah. It was like.

• 55:02Speaker 02

  When was that?

• 55:03Theo Von?

Probably two years ago or maybe a year and a half. I think they were playing Georgia or something. And they got their, they got their tails kicked, uh, Tennessee did, but yeah. But I remember like, God, that guy's the worst sheriff, whatever. Like he didn't even, he didn't give me any, he's just like.

• 55:17Speaker 02

Yeah. Like he could have told you.

• 55:19Theo Von?

Yeah. If you gotta piss somewhere or something, just whatever. That shit gets heavy. You flash this bitch. And I flash that bitch and they just.

• 55:29Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 55:29Theo Von?

Right up against the wall that lady had me. I was pretty nervous, but I respect her. She's doing her job right there.

• 55:34Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 55:35Theo Von?

Um, oh, that doesn't look like me. That looks like a, first of all, that looks like a pretty decent looking woman in the town I'm from. I will say that.

• 55:45Speaker 02

Oh, I remember them haircuts. Yes.

• 55:47Theo Von?

Oh, God, yeah. Well, we had our bus driver. We cut everybody's hair.

• 55:50Speaker 02

Your bus driver cut people's hair?

• 55:52Theo Von?

Ray, yeah. He cut his, he, he had a barber shop. I don't know if he had a barber shop, but he had one of those.

• 55:56Speaker 02

I thought you meant as you were walking off the bus, he just.

• 55:58Theo Von?

He would pull over probably six times a year. He had his, he had those clippers going. He'd just get everybody in there cut up.

• 56:06Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 56:07Theo Von?

Forty minutes, he'd cut everybody on that thing.

• 56:09Speaker 02

  That is hilarious.

• 56:10Theo Von?

  Walk right off that thing.

• 56:11Speaker 02

Everybody be looking slick walking off there.

• 56:13Theo Von?

  Pretty slick enough.

• 56:15Speaker 02

  With their ears lowered.

• 56:16Theo Von?

And the best thing is if everybody looks the same, nobody looks better or worse.

• 56:21Speaker 02

You ever had like a real bad haircut?

• 56:26Speaker 02

I mean, like a real, real bad haircut.

• 56:29Theo Von?

Yeah, I've had almost all of them. I think if you just look through pictures of me online, you'll see them.

• 56:33Speaker 02

  You're right, you're right.

• 56:34Theo Von?

I've had one, yeah, I went to that Roberts Beauty College or something that was in our town. And they were running a special, it was like seventy five cents to get your haircut. And I was like, well, at that price, I gotta go over there.

• 56:44Speaker 02

One hundred percent. You gotta see what it's about.

• 56:47Theo Von?

They mu- it must just be a great deal. And so I got in there, I got in there, dude, and they were letting people that were just like, I don't even know if they were hair cut, some of them were just like recovering mechanics and stuff. They were letting anybody.

• 57:00Speaker 02

  Mechanics.

• 57:01Theo Von?

Anybody who could keep their hands stable enough in that bitch, they put a pair of scissors in them. And yeah, they did stuff to me, man. I can't, I still will never be the same. I walked out of there. And I had to walk home, it was about two and a half miles, and the whole time I was so just depressed. And I kept trying to get a good reflection in my head and different things I was walking by.

• 57:18Speaker 02

Dude, a bad haircut, like a real bad haircut, can, it can be painful.

• 57:24Theo Von?

Well, especially as a man, because it's like you don't have, as a man, you're not going to grow breasts or, you can't wear lipstick. So like, you were down O two in your chances of.

• 57:36Speaker 02

That's right, and then you just gotta wait for it to grow back.

• 57:38Theo Von?

Yeah, so you have one item going on, you know, maybe you can do eye drops. But otherwise, it is a haircut.

• 57:44Speaker 02

It is a haircut. Duck dyed his hair bleach blonde.

• 57:48Theo Von?

  No, for what?

• 57:49Speaker 02

  Just like, as a joke.

• 57:50Theo Von?

What kind of joke was it?

• 57:51Speaker 02

Well, I don't know, but I'm gonna tell you right now, I didn't think it was funny. I didn't think it was funny. I said, you better sleep with a ball cap on until that thing grows out. Now it's starting to look like Frosted Tips.

• 58:02Theo Von?

Uh-uh, really? Well, take him down to damn Panama City and let him make a little bit of money.

• 58:06Speaker 02

  That's where he did it.

• 58:07Theo Von?

  Uh-uh.

• 58:08Speaker 02

As a joke, we were playing Panama City and my mama and his mama, and he like had this bright idea, and.

• 58:14Theo Von?

  They all got it done?

• 58:15Speaker 02

No, they just did his. They just did his. And, uh, they videoed my, uh, reaction seeing it.

• 58:23Theo Von?

  They did?

• 58:24Speaker 02

  And it was like.

• 58:26Theo Von?

Let me see, if you can find it, pull that up. I wanna see that.

• 58:28Speaker 02

My mouth is wide open. I was like, uh-uh, no, the wedding's off. Wedding's off, bro.

• 58:35Theo Von?

Weddings off, bro. Who's gonna play at your wedding? Do you have to play at your own wedding if you're like a really good musician?

• 58:42Speaker 02

No, no. I, I don't, I don't want it to be about, I want it to be about what it's supposed to be about that day. You know what I'm saying?

• 58:49Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 58:49Speaker 02

  Like.

• 58:50Theo Von?

  The love, the nuptials.

• 58:51Speaker 02

Now, I might like write him a song or something and like, like share it later on or whatever before, but like, I don't know. I'm just like.

• 59:01Theo Von?

Yeah, I just didn't know if you have to play at your own. I never thought about that.

• 59:05Speaker 02

I'm not. I want to have some kind of like jazz band or something like that.

• 59:09Theo Von?

  Ooh, Big X the Plug.

• 59:10Speaker 02

  Big X the Plug.

• 59:12Theo Von?

  He could do it.

• 59:12Speaker 02

  Which I loved y'all's interview.

• 59:14Theo Von?

  Yeah, he's great.

• 59:15Speaker 02

  He is great.

• 59:16Theo Von?

We went and watched his show in Nashville when he was there. It was fun.

• 59:19Speaker 02

  It was?

• 59:20Theo Von?

Yeah, the whole, yeah, it's just like, it's great energy, you know?

• 59:23Speaker 02

  Where was he playing?

• 59:24Theo Von?

He was playing over at, um.

• 59:26Speaker 02

Not Brooklyn Bowl. You're not, you're talking about Brooklyn Bowl.

• 59:29Theo Von?

Yep, he was playing at Brooklyn Bowl.

• 59:30Speaker 02

  Got it.

• 59:31Theo Von?

Yeah, it was good. I saw Red Clay's Trains. Where'd I see them at?

• 59:35Speaker 02

  They are so good.

• 59:36Theo Von?

I saw a video of you guys singing, right? You and Brandon.

• 59:39Speaker 02

Yep, in Canada. Yeah, he's, he's the real deal.

• 59:44Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 59:44Speaker 02

I mean, they put on a hell of a show. I'm just a fan of.

• 59:48Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 59:48Speaker 02

I think that, uh, it's just like timeless. It's like they stepped out of another, like time and they're just doing something so different. I don't know. I'm just a big old fan.

• 1:00:01Theo Von?

And their audience, there's a lot of men too are their fans, I realized.

• 1:00:05Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 1:00:06Theo Von?

Yeah, let me see a little bit of that.

• 1:00:13Theo Von?

  That's cool.

• 1:00:40Theo Von?

Oh, pass the hat. I'll put some money in that. I'll put my second born in that hat.

• 1:00:47Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 1:00:48Theo Von?

  That's special, huh?

• 1:00:50Speaker 02

  Yeah, he's, he's cool.

• 1:00:53Theo Von?

Have you guys done a song together? No, do you like to do a lot of collaborations like that? Or do you not like it?

• 1:00:57Speaker 02

  Well, no.

• 1:00:58Theo Von?

It seems to be really hot right now, too.

• 1:00:59Speaker 02

I love collaborations, but I was doing a bunch of collaborations there for a minute.

• 1:01:03Theo Von?

Oh, that's right. You did. I know the one with Hardy that I loved.

• 1:01:06Speaker 02

  Weight in a truck.

• 1:01:07Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, I forgot that was in a truck, too.

• 1:01:10Speaker 02

  Truck, truck.

• 1:01:11Theo Von?

Look, sorry to say that. I didn't, I look, I don't care if you stay in it. God, I don't care if I just, I don't care if you, every one of your songs talks about a damn CarMax. I'm still gonna listen to them.

• 1:01:22Speaker 02

Well, I ain't gonna do that.

• 1:01:23Theo Von?

  Okay, okay.

• 1:01:24Speaker 02

I ain't gonna do that. I ain't gonna do that.

• 1:01:25Theo Von?

I forgot about Weight in the Truck, too.

• 1:01:28Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:29Theo Von?

  But hey, that's okay.

• 1:01:30Speaker 02

Weight in the Truck, four by four by you, heart like a truck.

• 1:01:32Theo Von?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:01:33Speaker 02

Truck, truck. And we got one, like I said, coming, King Ranch, King George, King James.

• 1:01:39Theo Von?

Yeah, I got a damn heart like a dang little 50cc motorcycle, honey. Yeah, I got a heart, got a damn outboard motor on it. I got a heart.

• 1:01:53Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 1:01:54Theo Von?

I got a heart that's got, that's got damn training wheels on it.

• 1:01:58Speaker 02

My nephew just FaceTimed the other day.

• 1:02:00Theo Von?

  Did he? Knox?

• 1:02:01Speaker 02

With no training, Ledger, that's the four-year-old. He was like, "Call Aunt Wayne." So right when I think they don't love me, he says stuff like that to my sister.

• 1:02:10Theo Von?

  They tap in?

• 1:02:11Speaker 02

Like, "Call Aunt Wayne and show her." I'm like, "Oh, see, y'all do love me."

• 1:02:47Theo Von?

• 1:06:38Theo Von?

Yeah, I think it would be fun to like teach a kid something cool, you know? If I had me a little kid. I think I would do homeschooling if my wife wants to do homeschooling.

• 1:06:47Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:06:48Theo Von?

  I would be for it.

• 1:06:49Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:06:50Theo Von?

But I don't want the homeschool kid that stays at home and never meets any kids even on the weekend or whatever.

• 1:06:55Speaker 02

I'm gonna set your ass up. Let me, let me think of who I could set you up with.

• 1:06:58Theo Von?

  You are?

• 1:06:58Speaker 02

  I'm gonna set you up.

• 1:06:59Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah. Thanks.

• 1:07:01Speaker 02

  What's your type?

• 1:07:02Theo Von?

  Woman.

• 1:07:04Speaker 02

  Just a full grown woman.

• 1:07:06Theo Von?

Yeah, I mean, yeah, obviously. Uh, but yeah, adult woman.

• 1:07:13Theo Von?

Positive attitude, warm eyes, wants to be a mom.

• 1:07:16Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:07:17Theo Von?

  What else? Hard worker.

• 1:07:19Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:07:19Theo Von?

Right? So, a nurse I think I would like, but I think I may just say that because of hard worker.

• 1:07:27Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:07:27Theo Von?

  But.

• 1:07:28Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 1:07:29Theo Von?

I gotta pray a little bit more about it too and just help get my

• 1:07:33Theo Von?

kinda sights lined up, you know? Let the Lord kinda.

• 1:07:36Speaker 02

I'm gonna tell you right now, he, he can.

• 1:07:39Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:40Speaker 02

He can. He, I'll be praying for it too.

• 1:07:43Theo Von?

Yeah, thanks. Cause I, I, you can meet people, but you gotta like, you know, you just gotta meet the right one. It's only just gotta be patient too.

• 1:07:50Speaker 02

That's right. And he'll make it clear. He always does. And I always heard that wah, wah, wah about, you know, when you know and all that stuff. But like I, I do believe it now.

• 1:08:02Theo Von?

Did you lock, did you make like a little, um?

• 1:08:05Speaker 02

  List?

• 1:08:06Theo Von?

  List or altar or whatever?

• 1:08:08Speaker 02

  An altar.

• 1:08:09Theo Von?

  Or like a?

• 1:08:10Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. I made a list of like, I went through some doozies. I'm talking about like stuff I'm, I'm embarrassed about now. You know what I'm saying? I'm sorry. God bless you. Um, but embarrassed to think that I let somebody do me that way.

• 1:08:25Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:26Speaker 02

And then, uh, and then met somebody who just would never in a million years, but I did like, I, I took a few years to myself, didn't even go on a date. But also, nobody asked me out either. Like, what nobody asked me out?

• 1:08:42Theo Von?

  God.

• 1:08:43Speaker 02

And, um, but those years were like really important for me. And I figured out, I'm like, okay, like, no more playing around. Like, I'm, I'm the next person I'm dating, like, it's gotta be, I'm not gonna spend a few years of my life with this person if it's not like going in the direction that, that it's supposed to. And, um, so I, I was like, okay, yes, I want somebody who is, like you just said, like, hardworking. And I hate to say that this is even a quality on my list, but loyal. You know, that should just be, that should just be.

• 1:09:15Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:17Speaker 02

You know, it shouldn't be a quality. Um.

• 1:09:20Theo Von?

  It is kinda true.

• 1:09:21Speaker 02

  I know.

• 1:09:22Theo Von?

We've gotten to a sad place.

• 1:09:23Speaker 02

  I know.

• 1:09:24Theo Von?

That I'm gonna be their only spouse.

• 1:09:26Speaker 02

Mm-hmm. Yeah, I would love to be their only spouse. Um, but yeah, I think, like, write it down and.

• 1:09:33Theo Von?

Yeah, I just have to be more intentional about it, you know?

• 1:09:36Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:09:36Theo Von?

I've been get, I've been, I've done some of that, but I wanna do, I wanna do even more of it. Cause I wanna see how fine tuned could you get that arrow, you know? If you really locked in with some intention. But I do notice myself not spending time, like, a lot of times, like, wasting it in areas, you know?

• 1:09:50Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:09:50Theo Von?

Or trying not to spend my time wasting it in certain areas, you know?

• 1:09:54Speaker 02

Yes. It's just kinda like cutting the crap.

• 1:09:56Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:57Speaker 02

Yeah. And I think that's a big step right there.

• 1:10:00Theo Von?

  Right, is you deciding, yeah.

• 1:10:03Speaker 02

Is just being like, just no more.

• 1:10:05Theo Von?

  I want something.

• 1:10:06Speaker 02

And then only, only the real thing can find you at that point.

• 1:10:10Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:11Speaker 02

You gon', you gon' find somebody, she gon' be badass.

• 1:10:15Theo Von?

She better be. I'll tell you, I'm already pissed at her a little.

• 1:10:18Speaker 02

  Are you?

• 1:10:18Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:20Speaker 02

Yeah, I'm mad at her too.

• 1:10:21Theo Von?

Thank you. I got a couple notes in my phone. I'm texting her right whenever I get her number.

• 1:10:26Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 1:10:28Theo Von?

  Cause I'm definitely got.

• 1:10:29Speaker 02

She's gonna have to be. I'm just trying to, like, envision what this chick is gonna be like.

• 1:10:36Theo Von?

She better work out of town sometimes, I'll tell you that, okay?

• 1:10:42Theo Von?

Cause I don't want her messing my house.

• 1:10:44Speaker 02

  That's it. That's it. That's it.

• 1:10:47Theo Von?

I think the big thing I realized, I want ki- I want to be able to have kids that have like a comfort, a nice, like a emotionally well upbringing. So that's what I need, like an emotionally well woman.

• 1:10:57Speaker 02

Yes, just a good girl, like just.

• 1:10:59Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:00Speaker 02

  Well rounded.

• 1:11:01Theo Von?

Yeah, we'll find it. Maybe she has a couple of animals or something. Or we could get some animals.

• 1:11:05Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:11:06Theo Von?

Cause sometimes you meet a woman, they already got too many animals. You could see they're trying to do their own little zoo or something.

• 1:11:11Speaker 02

Yeah, put that horse in the front yard.

• 1:11:12Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:13Speaker 02

On the front porch, you know?

• 1:11:15Theo Von?

  That's how.

• 1:11:16Speaker 02

  That's how y'all gonna live.

• 1:11:17Theo Von?

Well, that's how I, that was my old way to meet a woman, just put that horse in the front yard, you know? But I'm not doing that anymore.

• 1:11:24Speaker 02

Now the horse needs going to back.

• 1:11:25Theo Von?

Yeah, yeah. But I can't live like that anymore. Um. What else? You have a movie that's coming up? Is that true?

• 1:11:33Speaker 02

  Yeah, Reminders of Him. Um.

• 1:11:36Theo Von?

  Reminders of Him?

• 1:11:38Speaker 02

Reminders of Him, Colleen Hoover. And I will say, I'm, I'm very excited about it. It's an opportunity for me to kind of dip my toes a little bit into being something other than a musician.

• 1:11:50Theo Von?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:11:51Speaker 02

  Which was fun.

• 1:11:52Theo Von?

I know you done in some Yellowstone, right?

• 1:11:55Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:11:56Theo Von?

Was this more like extensive than that? Or like what was different about it?

• 1:12:00Speaker 02

Um, this, I, you know, it probably took me three or four days to like film my part. Um. And I feel like with Yellowstone, because I was in like several different episodes, it was probably like a little bit more filming. Um. But I had fun. I had fun like, I feel like I kind of like found myself within the character, you know? Like I, I realized that, okay, maybe like I don't have to be playing music to feel like I can play the character.

• 1:12:28Theo Von?

  Hmm.

• 1:12:29Speaker 02

  Um.

• 1:12:30Theo Von?

  Dang.

• 1:12:31Speaker 02

Which is cool. Like I might, who knows? Hello. I want to do a comedy.

• 1:12:38Theo Von?

Do you? God, that would be good. You'd be so good at it. We should make one then.

• 1:12:43Speaker 02

  Let's do it.

• 1:12:43Theo Von?

Me and David Spade wrote a movie. It's almost done. I can't talk about it anymore on the podcast because we've talked about it on too many episodes. But we're editing it right now.

• 1:12:50Speaker 02

  Is that so fun?

• 1:12:52Theo Von?

It was. The editing itself's a nightmare, but it's fun.

• 1:12:54Speaker 02

  Got it.

• 1:12:55Theo Von?

It's like a puzzle. You're like figuring out, okay, we gotta move this here. How do we move this? What do we do?

• 1:12:59Speaker 02

So it's probably like putting a record together.

• 1:13:00Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah. It's been a big learning experience. It's been good, I think. But yeah, you definitely start to see like, oh, I could do more of these or figure out how to do it or create different ones.

• 1:13:09Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:13:10Theo Von?

  Like funny ideas.

• 1:13:11Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:13:12Theo Von?

Are you gonna start like a festival back at home or anything? Do you think you've thought about that?

• 1:13:15Speaker 02

We've talked about it. I mean, we've, um...

• 1:13:18Theo Von?

Do you feel like you have to? I guess it becomes like a thing.

• 1:13:21Speaker 02

I definitely like would love to be able to do something specifically like for my community. You know what I'm saying?

• 1:13:27Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:28Speaker 02

Um, yeah, just, you know, just to like bring in some, some more people, some more fans and like just even last year, we played a couple of shows in Monroe back to back and I heard, you know, that a lot of people had lots of business that week and that's important. I want people to flourish and, and do well. Like these are, this is a community that believed in me before anybody did, you know?

• 1:13:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:53Speaker 02

So I would love to do something like that at some point, but takes a lot of, like, I want to do it right, you know?

• 1:14:01Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:14:03Speaker 02

  It's gotta be right.

• 1:14:04Theo Von?

Yeah. You want to definitely have some, uh, crawfish trucks out front.

• 1:14:08Speaker 02

  Crawfish trucks.

• 1:14:10Theo Von?

That'd be it. I wonder what your festival would be called if you had a festival over there?

• 1:14:13Speaker 02

I don't know. What would it be called?

• 1:14:16Theo Von?

I don't know. You gotta think, I mean, it's gotta be like a neat critter that's from the area, I guess, kinda. I mean, it could just be the Lainey Wilson Festival.

• 1:14:24Speaker 02

  No, there's something cooler.

• 1:14:26Theo Von?

Well, there's something probably a little more critter in it.

• 1:14:28Speaker 02

Yeah, we definitely need a critter.

• 1:14:29Theo Von?

Yeah. I mean, you have a decent amount of critter, it seems like. I'm not trying to un-critter your whatever.

• 1:14:35Speaker 02

  You're kinda un-critter, right?

• 1:14:36Theo Von?

Yeah, I didn't think I could. Um, dude, did you ever go on like, I remember you told me that you went on this horrible date one time. It was like a Valentine's Day. Remember we made a little cartoon about it?

• 1:14:45Speaker 02

Oh, Rose's array of violets are black. Why's your chest as flat as your back?

• 1:14:51Theo Von?

But dude, it reminded me. So one time when I was a kid, I stole my mom's car, bartered, whatever you did, you know, you're like thirteen. And this girl down the street dude had, she was just looking pretty good, you know?

• 1:15:05Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 1:15:06Theo Von?

And she was like willing to sneak out of her house at night, right? So I was like,

• 1:15:09Speaker 02

  Was she the same age?

• 1:15:11Theo Von?

Yeah, same age. So I was like, I'm gonna go pick her up and we're gonna go out to this like boat launch area that you can park the car out there and dance a little bit and put on some country music, put on some Top forty or whatever. You know, they play some strawberry wine or maybe some, um, I'm trying to think of whatever else, maybe some, uh, John Michael Montgomery.

• 1:15:30Speaker 02

  Let's go.

• 1:15:31Theo Von?

You know, something that'll just, dang, just keep my eyes open, you know? So anyway, pick her up and this girl always wore like a two-piece bathing suit, like she was on the swim team at school, right? So anyway, but I don't even know why I said that, but anyway.

• 1:15:45Speaker 02

  Well, I needed the visual.

• 1:15:46Theo Von?

Yeah. Anyway, picked her up. We go out there, we're listening to some music. A, a car comes across the parking lot, bound, goes into the water and starts to sink right. We're the only people.

• 1:15:55Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 1:15:56Theo Von?

Swear. We're the only people out there. It goes right off the boat launch. And then starts to sink and the headlights are up towards the top of the water, the car sinks.

• 1:16:04Speaker 02

  You are lying.

• 1:16:05Theo Von?

No, and it's me and her and I'm like, oh my God, I'm out here, we still, I, I can't call the police, what do I even do? I'm gonna get in trouble, right?

• 1:16:12Speaker 02

Did you jump in the water?

• 1:16:13Theo Von?

We run right over there to the thing and, um, I was like, we gotta get, we gotta do something, you know, some, what if somebody's in there? Like we're the only people out there. And she's like, okay, on the count of three, we'll jump in. And I'm like, dude, you don't do the count of three, dude. If somebody is drowning in a car.

• 1:16:31Theo Von?

You know what I'm saying? Like, that is the worst.

• 1:16:34Speaker 02

  One, two.

• 1:16:35Theo Von?

Yeah, you don't, you don't waste people's time that are drowning if you can just jump in, right? So anyway, she goes, I was like, all right. She's like, no, we have to do it. I was like, all right. So she goes, one, two, three, I jump, she doesn't even jump.

• 1:16:48Speaker 02

You are lying and she's a swimmer.

• 1:16:49Theo Von?

She's a swimmer. And I'm not that great of a swimmer.

• 1:16:52Speaker 02

That's a life lesson right there.

• 1:16:53Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's why you need to pick a woman who is willing to go that extra mile.

• 1:17:00Speaker 02

  That's it.

• 1:17:01Theo Von?

Cause there's a lot of these fake ass swim team bitches out there. But anyway, moving on. Anyway, I reached down in the car, I get underwater, reached out in the car. And I feel like the car seat and stuff and, um, they had like one of those like covers on the car seat that was like that fur, you know? You know, they had the white fur seat cover sometimes. It was like, I don't know, it wasn't like Dalmatian, it was something nice, you know, light, something fa- it was fake probably.

• 1:17:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:17:26Theo Von?

But anyway, yeah, something like that.

• 1:17:27Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:17:27Theo Von?

Wolf or something. And, uh, so I touch it and that scared me so much. I thought, I didn't know if it was somebody's sk- just like, so I start kind of vomit like underwater. I'm like getting sick.

• 1:17:39Speaker 02

  Stop.

• 1:17:40Theo Von?

Get back up above the water. Now I can't hold my breath to go down, right? Like the car's completely underwater. So get out, we run back to the car, drive to this bar that was close by and we started just like, we ran inside and we're like, this car went off into the water. There's like six people in this bar. They all clear out of there and then they all run down to, they'll, uh, drive down or run down to this, to the dock. And people are jumping in the water, saying some lady's name or something. Got in my mom's car, left.

• 1:18:10Speaker 02

So you don't know what happened?

• 1:18:11Theo Von?

Mm-mm. Left, wasn't gonna stay around.

• 1:18:14Speaker 02

There was somebody in there, wasn't it?

• 1:18:16Theo Von?

  I don't know, but...

• 1:18:18Speaker 02

How did the like news not come out in the town or anything?

• 1:18:21Theo Von?

I mean, we were kids. I don't think we would have heard it probably because we was like, it was more adult stuff.

• 1:18:26Speaker 02

So, did your mama ever know that you took the car?

• 1:18:28Theo Von?

  She does now.

• 1:18:29Speaker 02

  She does. Sorry mama.

• 1:18:31Theo Von?

Almost saved that woman, mama. And if you'd have let me borrow your fricking car when I had a fricking ass, I probably would have been able to save her.

• 1:18:40Theo Von?

I wouldn't have had to sneak back home.

• 1:18:43Theo Von?

But yeah, I think that was something.

• 1:18:44Speaker 02

I'm still thinking about the girl not jumping with you.

• 1:18:46Theo Von?

  It's unbelievable.

• 1:18:47Speaker 02

You can't say on the count of three and then not go.

• 1:18:50Theo Von?

And who has time to do count of three? Somebody's drowning. You're like, alright, one, two. You don't do that. I don't know whatever happened to her. Dude, there was a beautiful girl in my town that kissed me one time by a fire and then she, I never ever, ever saw her again.

• 1:19:02Speaker 02

  That's how it goes.

• 1:19:03Theo Von?

  God.

• 1:19:04Speaker 02

Uh-huh. Wonder where she's at. You remember her?

• 1:19:06Theo Von?

  I don't know. Yes, I remember her.

• 1:19:08Speaker 02

We need to get in touch with her.

• 1:19:09Theo Von?

Ain't she let me brush her hair for almost fifteen minutes out there?

• 1:19:15Speaker 02

You literally just had a brush and you were just combing her hair.

• 1:19:17Theo Von?

She brought it. I'm not, I'm not that creepy. Yeah. But I would, yeah, I helped her out. That was my 4H.

• 1:19:24Speaker 02

That was your 4H. It was.

• 1:19:29Theo Von?

What is this? Oh, you see Justin Bieber showed up, this fake one?

• 1:19:32Speaker 02

  What you talking about?

• 1:19:33Theo Von?

That a fake Justin Bieber showed up the other night.

• 1:19:36Speaker 02

  To where?

• 1:19:36Theo Von?

In Las Vegas and everybody thought that it was him. I'm like,

• 1:19:42Theo Von?

this does not even seem like him.

• 1:19:43Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:19:45Theo Von?

It seems like Chet Hanks just had a long weekend, kinda.

• 1:19:48Speaker 02

  What in the world?

• 1:19:52Theo Von?

But there were literally, I guess, like thousands of people following this guy.

• 1:19:55Speaker 02

Watching everyone get scammed is wild.

• 1:19:58Speaker 02

So many people get scammed nowadays.

• 1:20:01Theo Von?

I just saw the other day that we're, uh, one of the biggest scamming times. What are some of the biggest online scams? Have they had any, have they had any Lainey Wilson impersonators?

• 1:20:10Speaker 02

Oh my God. I mean, I don't know about like dressing up like that and whatever, but I'm just talking about like online in general, like the amount of messages I get about, um.

• 1:20:21Theo Von?

Oh, ticket scamming, all that stuff?

• 1:20:23Speaker 02

Well, just like people who think that they are like actually in a relationship with me and stuff because like somebody's pretending to be me. And so it's, it's really bad. I ruined a couple marriages on accident, didn't even mean to.

• 1:20:34Theo Von?

  You didn't.

• 1:20:35Speaker 02

  Yes, I sure did.

• 1:20:37Theo Von?

  Laney.

• 1:20:38Speaker 02

Yeah. They're like, my husband of 30 years believes he's talking to you and this and that and whatever. Yes. And I'm like, oh no.

• 1:20:47Theo Von?

And what do you have to do then? You can't call them.

• 1:20:49Speaker 02

There's literally nothing like, there's, there's nothing I can do. Um, I'm just, besides like telling y'all about it, you know?

• 1:20:57Theo Von?

Yeah. If you are not married to Lainey Wilson, you are not married to Lainey Wilson. So that's.

• 1:21:02Speaker 02

Well, you think it ought, it ought to be that simple, but I mean, I've heard, I've heard all kinds of stuff. I was, uh, I mean, one woman got scammed by a buddy of mine and she showed up to the show, had her bag packed and everything and was just waiting there. Like I'm going, I'm going with him. And they were like, no ma'am. Like, but she had been communicating with somebody online.

• 1:21:24Theo Von?

  And thought it was him.

• 1:21:24Speaker 02

And thought it was him. So.

• 1:21:27Theo Von?

It's getting that real, but I I guess I would be shocked. How could you think it would go that real online? You know?

• 1:21:34Speaker 02

It's like a cert- what I've noticed is it's like a certain age group of uh, it's probably like lonely lonely people.

• 1:21:40Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:21:41Speaker 02

Um, whether they're married or not, they're lonely.

• 1:21:43Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:21:44Speaker 02

And um. And I don't know, it's just like they just find like the right person. They must try it to a million people to find the right person to actually convince.

• 1:21:53Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:54Speaker 02

You know, and and they're asking for money and they they just uh. Give them lots of money, lots of money. And it's sad. It is sad.

• 1:22:06Theo Von?

I just, I guess, I mean, like, I guess I'm trying to give somebody emailed me and said, I am. I'm trying to think of somebody that would really. Have me just fired up, probably. Can't even think of anybody off off off the top of my head. Probably like a night nurse or whatever, like a ICU nurse.

• 1:22:26Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 1:22:27Theo Von?

Um. I've got, no, that's not it. It'd have to be somebody faint, like you know publicly, probably. Huh.

• 1:22:35Speaker 02

Somebody that you'd be like, I can't believe they're messaging me.

• 1:22:37Theo Von?

God, yeah. Who could that be, maybe?

• 1:22:40Speaker 02

  Pamela Anderson.

• 1:22:41Theo Von?

Yeah, one of the Spice Girls or somebody.

• 1:22:43Speaker 02

One of the Spice Girls for sure, Ginger or Baby Spice.

• 1:22:46Theo Von?

Yeah, or Marjorie Ram or whatever, isn't that one?

• 1:22:49Speaker 02

  Sporty Spice.

• 1:22:51Theo Von?

Oh, Scarlett Johansson. Who else? Johnny Depp? That's a man.

• 1:22:57Theo Von?

Um. Uh, I don't know. None of these people are doing it for me. Maybe Tom Hanks.

• 1:23:01Speaker 02

Mm hmm. Yeah, if Tom, if Tom sent you an email.

• 1:23:05Theo Von?

Yeah, Tom, look, Tom, one of the best actors in the world.

• 1:23:08Speaker 02

But if he said. Theo, I'm in a bind.

• 1:23:11Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:12Speaker 02

And I need. Two hundred thousand dollars, because that's some of the, that's the crazy amount. It's not just like, hey, I need a hundred bucks.

• 1:23:19Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:23:20Speaker 02

People are getting screwed glued and tattooed.

• 1:23:25Theo Von?

I would not say that. I would send him maybe twelve hundred. I am not sending.

• 1:23:30Speaker 02

  Say, God bless you, Tom.

• 1:23:31Theo Von?

Yeah. I'm not sending somebody. That much money is crazy. Yeah, I don't know what goes into the psychology of that. We should talk with somebody and learn about that. What is one of the biggest scams that's happened online with somebody? But I mean, that one with Justin Bieber is crazy. People thinking that that's him?

• 1:23:45Speaker 02

Like, I remember like Kip Moore got scammed and there was like a Dr. Phil episode about it. Not Kip Moore. But um, somebody was getting scammed by somebody pretending to be Kip Moore. And it was just like the girl really thought she was, you know,

• 1:23:59Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 1:24:00Speaker 02

in a relationship, like for real, for real.

• 1:24:02Theo Von?

All my friends will send me stuff. It's like, oh, is this you? And it's like a fake email or something. It's like, that would be insane if that was me. Like if you read through this.

• 1:24:10Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:24:10Theo Von?

You know, it had like recipes for things I like for dinner or something. Like who, you think I'm gonna send something like that? But I guess, yeah, people get caught up. I mean, I've fallen for stuff when I was growing up, Ponzi sheens, stuff like that. So I guess you've all fallen for something.

• 1:24:23Speaker 02

I was trying to buy a French Bulldog.

• 1:24:25Theo Von?

You were bit by a French Bulldog?

• 1:24:26Speaker 02

No, I was trying to buy.

• 1:24:29Speaker 02

I was trying to buy one.

• 1:24:30Theo Von?

  He's got good taste.

• 1:24:31Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:24:33Theo Von?

  It's a old French Bulldog.

• 1:24:34Speaker 02

  And uh, I got scammed.

• 1:24:36Theo Von?

  Nuh-uh.

• 1:24:37Speaker 02

This is probably about six years ago.

• 1:24:39Theo Von?

God, that's not, that is not cool. Cause they're really cute.

• 1:24:45Theo Von?

And you see them and you just wanted them. And did you see pictures or they also had videos of them?

• 1:24:49Speaker 02

It was just pictures. I mean, I'm a dumbass for thinking that. Like, I've learned a lot. That was definitely my thought.

• 1:24:57Theo Von?

Really thought it was Jelly Roll. Ohio man says he was scammed by AI video of the singer. A Springfield, Ohio man said he lost money. I really thought it was Jelly Roll. Uh, appeared to be from a celebrity that happens to be a fan of. The message said he won fifty thousand dollars on a brand new car.

• 1:25:15Speaker 02

  I wanna see it.

• 1:25:16Theo Von?

Then the account sent a video of the man who appears to be singer-songwriter Jelly Roll asking him to cover shipping to get his prizes. Huh.

• 1:25:24Speaker 05

They're not linking to the video, but this is the image from the AI-generated video.

• 1:25:27Speaker 02

That is insane. That's the thing, Theo. Like, used to, you had to be like, I gotta see it to believe it.

• 1:25:33Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:25:34Speaker 02

But now. You just gotta figure out yourself, you gotta have that wisdom and discernment whether or not to, you believe it or not. I mean, there's been stuff in the past month going on about like me and Duck having a baby, getting married. They gave me six fingers on one hand.

• 1:25:49Theo Von?

  Uh-uh.

• 1:25:50Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:25:51Theo Von?

Oh, and you say you're cheating when you're doing your songs or whatever?

• 1:25:53Speaker 02

Yeah, and then like they put my daddy in a hospital bed picking his guitar. And I was, I was in a wedding dress in the hospital room. Cause I had to go to him to get married. And then I showed my daddy the picture and um, and he's like not pissed about just AI making that rumor up. He's like, I got more hair than that. I'm like, really? That's what you gotta say? I got more hair than that?

• 1:26:20Theo Von?

Hey, look, if you got it, you gotta keep it, honey.

• 1:26:24Speaker 02

  That's right, that's right.

• 1:26:25Theo Von?

Dang. Yeah, I guess everything's getting weird out there.

• 1:26:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:26:29Theo Von?

But have you met any actual impersonators of you?

• 1:26:32Speaker 02

There is, um, there's a girl in London that actually puts on, um, she teams up with this guy who I believe does Luke Combs, so it's like her and her name is Georgie, I believe. Uh, they just like put on these like co-headlining shows together, which is really cool. It's like a, um, there she is right there.

• 1:26:51Theo Von?

  That's pretty cool.

• 1:26:52Speaker 02

The Lainey Wilson experience. Um, she's awesome. And she's got the dance moves and everything now. Like she does Lainey Wilson better than me.

• 1:27:00Theo Von?

She does? That's gotta be pretty flattering.

• 1:27:02Speaker 02

I'm like learning some stuff from her, you know what I'm saying?

• 1:27:06Speaker 02

She's got the whole outfit and everything.

• 1:27:11Theo Von?

  Wow.

• 1:27:16Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's pretty cool.

• 1:27:18Theo Von?

  Oh, that's awesome.

• 1:27:19Speaker 02

  Pretty cool.

• 1:27:20Theo Von?

  That's pretty cool.

• 1:27:21Speaker 02

Look, she does a cowgirl of a night. She like, she just got it going on. I'm, I'm proud for her that she's like, you know, making a job out of it, like.

• 1:27:30Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:31Speaker 02

  Seems like a fun job.

• 1:27:32Theo Von?

Oh, that's pretty special right there.

• 1:27:34Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:27:36Theo Von?

Yeah, my niece's first show that we went to together was your show over there in Baton Rouge. I think it's probably two years ago.

• 1:27:41Speaker 02

We about to be back in Baton Rouge.

• 1:27:42Theo Von?

  Y'all are?

• 1:27:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:27:43Theo Von?

Well, then I'm about to have to come.

• 1:27:44Speaker 02

  Yeah, come on.

• 1:27:45Theo Von?

  I'd love it.

• 1:27:45Speaker 02

We're gonna be there in September. Tell your family, come on.

• 1:27:49Theo Von?

  God, I want that.

• 1:27:50Speaker 02

  My sis.

• 1:27:50Theo Von?

Oh, my mom's down there now. She would come.

• 1:27:53Speaker 02

  Yeah?

• 1:27:53Theo Von?

Yeah, that'd be a great idea. I'll bring her.

• 1:27:56Speaker 02

  Come on.

• 1:27:58Theo Von?

Thank you, I'll have to. Um, oh, I saw that they just opened up your exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

• 1:28:05Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 1:28:06Theo Von?

Did you go see it yet?

• 1:28:08Speaker 02

I did go see it. It was wild. My mama kept everything. She kept my baby blanket. She kept this little like plastic star that went like on the wreath the day I was born and it said, "A star was born today."

• 1:28:20Theo Von?

  You're lying.

• 1:28:20Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:28:21Theo Von?

So they were betting on you.

• 1:28:23Speaker 02

They were like, "She gotta do it, Lord help us."

• 1:28:26Theo Von?

  God, honey.

• 1:28:28Speaker 02

Yes, it's so cool because I really got to like, kind of zoom out and, you know, it looked like a bunch of tiny little steps, like everything I've done since I was just young. And then like me impersonating Hannah Montana, all that stuff, that's my journals. I wrote Tim McGraw a letter when I was 18 and was like,

• 1:28:48Speaker 02

"All I need is a shot and I can do the rest."

• 1:28:51Theo Von?

  You did?

• 1:28:52Speaker 02

And I still have never met Tim McGraw. I think I need to send him the letter now.

• 1:28:56Theo Von?

Well, I think you guys are probably make a movie sometime soon.

• 1:28:59Speaker 02

  I'd like that. But yeah.

• 1:29:01Theo Von?

  Is that you right there?

• 1:29:02Speaker 02

  That's me.

• 1:29:03Theo Von?

  My God.

• 1:29:04Speaker 02

That's me on a good day.

• 1:29:06Theo Von?

I thought that was your stunt double from England again.

• 1:29:08Speaker 02

  That's Georgie.

• 1:29:09Theo Von?

Yeah, that'd be so good. You start sending her to spend time with your family.

• 1:29:13Speaker 02

I mean, honestly. They might like her better than me.

• 1:29:17Theo Von?

  Laney, that's so cool.

• 1:29:18Speaker 02

  It's cool.

• 1:29:19Theo Von?

And that's in the Country Music Hall of Fame?

• 1:29:21Speaker 02

Yes, it's like, everything I've like, ever done. For me, like being able to look at it with my parents and, I mean, because they worked their butt off so I could do what I was doing. And they, when I tell you, Theo, they believed in me. They, they're, they're the kind of people who are, they're real realistic. You know what I'm saying?

• 1:29:43Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:29:43Speaker 02

Like, people don't, those kind of things like don't happen in our area. But for some crazy reason, they're like, "No, this is, what's she gonna do?" Like, this is like, we know it. And they helped me do whatever. I mean, whether it was like helping me buy my camper trailer. Or um, if there was like a singing competition. Somewhere in another state or whatever. I was like wanting to sign up for it and like mama would take me and. Um, daddy would pay for the gas. You know, like it was just like a team effort. So it's cool just to see everything come from it and it's just.

• 1:30:19Theo Von?

Yeah, well, parents just want to be proud of their children, right? And so I think.

• 1:30:22Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:30:22Theo Von?

You know, and parents get proud of their children if they see them do something small or big, I think, you know, and so. I'm sure even just to have a like, to have something like that where so much of your child is kind of like.

• 1:30:31Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 1:30:32Theo Von?

Recorded and, and has some, you know, in, in a museum, that's damn.

• 1:30:37Speaker 02

I know. I said, I ain't never been more proud that my mama was a hoarder.

• 1:30:42Speaker 02

  But she kept it.

• 1:30:45Theo Von?

  Oh, that's beautiful.

• 1:30:46Speaker 02

They were trying to send this tractor tire swing that we like. He used to swing on, we were, I'm talking about this tractor tire swing was like this big around. They're like. No, we don't, we don't need that. My dad's like, no, y'all take it on up there. They're just trying to clean out the house, you know? Yeah.

• 1:31:01Theo Von?

Yeah, there's this stack of your dad's old pants. You're like, what the hell?

• 1:31:05Speaker 02

No, just take, no, take them up there to Nashville.

• 1:31:08Theo Von?

The exhibit just morphs into a garage sale.

• 1:31:13Theo Von?

What, um, I know your bell bottom pants. I remember being at your show and seeing all these like, uh, girls and some men wearing different kind of. Laney bottom style pants, right? Do you have a brand that's pants now? Or like, did that become like a thing?

• 1:31:27Speaker 02

So I actually have a um, partnership with Wrangler, which is so much fun because we get to do like. We have like our fall collections and then we'll have some stuff for the winter and then we do spring and summer. It's just fun. It's like another way for me to. Be creative, but we actually just launched a boot line too called Golden West. And really was inspired from really just like when I think of songwriting and how I've. Kind of learned how to write a song. I feel like I've been given the opportunity to write with such incredible writers. They've kind of taught me how to step into other people's shoes and like tell a story from their perspective.

• 1:32:08Theo Von?

  Oh, there we go.

• 1:32:09Speaker 02

There they are. There's the Somewhere Over Laredo boots. Those top two right there are best sellers right now.

• 1:32:15Theo Von?

  Really?

• 1:32:15Speaker 02

  Yep, it's fun.

• 1:32:17Theo Von?

People are wearing these little boots now. What is that called? That little boot in the middle? That's a shorty?

• 1:32:23Speaker 02

  Shotty.

• 1:32:24Theo Von?

  Ooh.

• 1:32:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:32:26Theo Von?

  I've been seeing those.

• 1:32:28Speaker 02

We gonna find you a nurse and we gonna get her a pair of boots.

• 1:32:30Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:32:31Speaker 02

  We gonna hook her up.

• 1:32:32Theo Von?

  Couple Appaloosas right there.

• 1:32:33Speaker 02

  Uh huh.

• 1:32:35Theo Von?

Heck yeah. And tell her she can take them boots on out of town if she gonna keep it together. Never mind, she can come back at least once. Okay, that's what I'm saying.

• 1:32:45Speaker 02

  At least once.

• 1:32:46Theo Von?

Golden West, oh, I like those.

• 1:32:49Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:32:49Theo Von?

  They got some different styles.

• 1:32:51Speaker 02

We're excited and it's doing really well already and I'm just excited to like continue.

• 1:32:58Theo Von?

Are they only online or people can get them in some stores too?

• 1:33:00Speaker 02

Um, only online right now, so.

• 1:33:04Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 1:33:05Speaker 02

Yep. And then we're just gonna continue like dropping, you know, dropping some and, and see what happens. But it's going in a great direction.

• 1:33:14Theo Von?

How do you start to feel about your, that you have the possibility to think that your best songs are still ahead of you? You know, I know with comedians, you start to think like, man, I'll never have a bit that's as good as that, you know? Um, how, does that affect an artist? Like, what's that like for you in your world? I mean, cause you've had some, you know, you have a lot of great music. You've had some that have been bigger hits than others. That's just the way it goes. But do you, does that, like, what is that like? Do you have fears like that ever?

• 1:33:38Speaker 02

You know, I mean, it's absolutely like crossed my mind because I think just like being human in general. That probably crosses everybody's mind, you know? Even like getting out of a relationship, like I'll never love anybody else as much as, you know?

• 1:33:50Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:51Speaker 02

But I think, uh, I keep like shocking myself or like surprising myself and being like, well, he ain't done. We, I really do feel like we're really just getting started. Like even the songs that I've been writing in the past six months for the next record. I feel like we keep, um, leveling up and I don't really know how that happens, but a grace of God. So he's, uh, delivering.

• 1:34:20Theo Von?

  Amen.

• 1:34:21Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:34:21Theo Von?

Yeah, I believe it. I think, yeah, it's those moments, because there's days where you'll feel like, okay, everything is being perfect. I'll feel this way. Everything's on the right path and there's days where I feel like, man, I'm on a detour right now, you know?

• 1:34:33Speaker 02

  I know.

• 1:34:33Theo Von?

And I think just trying to like, uh, tune, like, almost like you're using a tuner for a radio dial, just trying to tune my heart in, you know?

• 1:34:40Speaker 02

That's right. It's like positioning yourself. I'm learning that.

• 1:34:43Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:34:43Speaker 02

It's like positioning yourself so you can be, and also like, getting rid of the things in your mind that are like, stopping you or preventing you from finding whatever that next, like, great joke is, or great song, you know what I'm saying? Like, you gotta get rid of those roadblocks in order to, to find them.

• 1:35:02Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:35:03Speaker 02

And sometimes the roadblocks are people. Sometimes it's just like a...

• 1:35:07Theo Von?

Sometimes it's, yeah, a damn roadblock. It's an actual roadblock.

• 1:35:10Speaker 02

Literally, and you're just sitting there waiting for them to turn the sign around. You know?

• 1:35:16Theo Von?

But no, you're right. Sometimes it's people, sometimes it's, uh, a habit.

• 1:35:20Speaker 02

  A habit, dude, a habit.

• 1:35:23Theo Von?

How many people have not had, made certain amazing things happen because of a bad habit, probably?

• 1:35:30Speaker 02

  God, I know. It's, that's...

• 1:35:35Theo Von?

I just want to get tuned in to just the Lord FM, honey, that's what I need.

• 1:35:38Speaker 02

  That's it, the Lord FM.

• 1:35:40Theo Von?

  Uh, just reset my...

• 1:35:41Speaker 02

You let me know when that's a station, because I'm gonna, I'm gonna tune in, too.

• 1:35:45Theo Von?

Reset my dial. Uh, tell Mr. Hodges that we said hello.

• 1:35:49Speaker 02

  I will.

• 1:35:49Theo Von?

  Yeah, appreciate it.

• 1:35:50Speaker 02

  Come see us.

• 1:35:51Theo Von?

Yeah, I'm gonna try to come see you there, down there in Baton Rouge again. That'd be great.

• 1:35:54Speaker 02

  Cool.

• 1:35:54Theo Von?

And, uh, yeah, thanks for all the beautiful music. Congratulations, and thanks for coming to just chat with me about Louisiana.

• 1:35:59Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 1:36:00Theo Von?

  Yep.

• 1:36:00Speaker 02

  It was fun.

• 1:36:01Theo Von?

Oh, yeah. Congratulations, Lainey Wilson. Best of luck.

• 1:36:03Speaker 02

  Yee-haw.

• 1:36:31Speaker 06
