I'm pro-football Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins, and I lived for a long time with something I did not know the name of: major depressive disorder. I carried sadness and anger because I thought I could handle it alone, but I couldn't. Now I want to make sure others know that that support is out there. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, talk to a healthcare professional. Visit MDDAllies.com to watch my story.

• 0:25Speaker 01

Paid partnership with Johnson & Johnson. Brian Dawkins has not prescribed Caplyta lumateperone.

• 0:37Speaker 02

I needed more from my antidepressant, so my doctor added Caplyta lumateperone, proven to provide greater relief from depression symptoms than an antidepressant alone, building on my progress without starting over. Caplyta is for adults with major depressive disorder when used with an antidepressant and is available by prescription only. Individual results may vary. In clinical trials, weight gain was not common.

• 0:57Speaker 01

Elderly dementia patients have increased risk of death or stroke. Caplyta is not approved for dementia-related psychosis. Call your doctor about new or sudden mood changes, behaviors, or suicidal thoughts right away. Antidepressants may increase these risks. Report fever, confusion, stiff muscles, which may be life-threatening, or uncontrolled muscle movements, which may be permanent. High cholesterol and weight gain may occur, as can high blood sugar, which may be fatal. Monitoring is recommended. Common side effects are sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, feeling tired, and diarrhea. These aren't all the side effects.

Ask your doctor about Caplyta. Learn more at caplyta.com or call 888-252-4824.

Welcome back to the Adam Friedland Show, guys. This is Adam Friedland. Thanks for joining us. I'm going on the road. I'll be in Tampa, Florida, Los Angeles, California. That's for the Netflix is a Joke Festival. San Francisco, Californy, and Portland, Oregon. More dates will be announced throughout the year. You can get tickets at adamfriedland.show, and there's also a link in the description of this video. My guest this week is American businessman and billionaire, Mark Cuban.

• 4:25Adam Friedland?

How do I put this? The story of Cuban is, I guess, the story of the American dream, as you'll find out. First, he got the money, and then he got the power, and then he got the pussy. He arrived in Miami, Florida in 1980 as a refugee with his best friend, Manolo Rivera. After a drug deal gone wrong, where he witnessed a man being dismembered via chainsaw, he began working for Jewish businessman Frank Lopez and developed an attraction to his wife, Alvira, who's from Baltimore, and she also just seems kind of like a frigid bitch. They met in a club, and she was dancing, and he's like, "Where you from?" Mark Cuban said, "Where you from?" And she's like, "Baltimore." Yeah, anyway.

• 5:09Adam Friedland?

Mark had a strained relationship with his family because of his ties to organized crime. He famously, of course, tried to offer his mother $1,000 that he claimed to earn as a political organizer, which she rejected outright. But then his sister Gina accepted the money, and then after that, he told Manolo to stay away from his sister, okay? Famous, we all know that, okay? Shortly thereafter, he was sent to Bolivia. On the side, he negotiated a drug deal behind Frank, what's his name? Lopez. Yeah, yeah. Behind Frank Lopez's back, he negotiated a drug deal with Alejandro Sosa, who's kind of the classiest guy in the whole, in the whole... In the story. Story, story, yeah. And then Frank... The history. In the history, in the whole history. And then Frank gets mad about it.

• 5:54Adam Friedland?

He's kind of going around Frank's back, and then what transpires afterwards is kind of, of course, boring, and the story kind of drags. But of course, we all know the ending, which is that, at his mother's behest, Mark Cuban, high on cocaine, tracks down his sister, and he finds her with who? None other than Manolo, who he said, "Stay away from my sister." And then Cuban shoots Manolo dead, and then learns that Gina, who is his sister, just got married to him. Fuck. And then he takes Gina to his estate and begins a cocaine binge in his office, of course, and then he accuses, and then Gina turns to him and accuses him of wanting her for himself. She gets, yeah, she gets naked. She's kind of hot, too. His sister? His sister's hot.

• 6:38Adam Friedland?

Look up, you can, Mark Cuban. Look it up, look it up, actually. Real quick, we'll just, we'll say pause for Caleb to see, just check it out. Not Mark, you know.

• 6:53Adam Friedland?

  Scarface sister, maybe X videos.

• 6:59Adam Friedland?

Yeah, there, so she's... That's his sister. That's his sister, kind of blow that, get that bigger for me? Enhanced? Oh, sorry, I'm dragging. We just saw a picture of my... Anyway, so she shoots, she said, she accuses Mark Cuban of wanting her for himself, and then she shoots and wounds him, and then subsequently she's killed by one of Sosa's men, who Mark Cuban kills in return. And then, of course, Sosa's men invade the grounds and kill Mark Cuban's guards, including Chi Chi, who's the one who, along with Manny, saved him from the chainsaw thing on Miami Beach. And then Mark takes a rifle and a grenade launcher to the invaders, and he kills a bunch of them, but then he gets shot in the back, and he succumbs to his wounds.

• 7:42Adam Friedland?

And then, of course, Mark Cuban falls over the railing from the upstairs, which is open to the, it's kind of an upstairs balcony situation. Do you have a one-story or two-story house growing up? Uh, two-story. Probably, probably one-story over there, but we had two. But you know how like we had the balcony, because it's a divorce, his parents got divorced. He falls, so Mark Cuban then succumbs to his injuries after being shot in the back. He's killed, and then his body falls from the balcony into the pool, which is, he has an indoor pool, and at the, he has this globe, and at the base of the globe, the motto, "The world is yours," reads.

• 8:21Adam Friedland?

Read, you can... Is read, is read. Anyway, so say hello to my little friend. So, say hello to my little friend. Uh, Mark Cuban.

• 8:37Adam Friedland?

Ladies and gentlemen, legendary American entrepreneur, Mark Cuban, everyone!

• 8:45Adam Friedland?

I'm excited about this. Thank you. Appreciate it. You guys sounded big for once.

• 8:50Speaker 04

  Once?

• 8:51Adam Friedland?

For once. You know, first of all, I want to start, I want to start, give you a little credit for something, right? One of the news stories I think that is going to be, you know, if I'm reading the tea leaves, going to be huge, is this goddamn Jeffrey Epstein story. So we searched, I mean, you're clean, my friend.

• 9:07Speaker 04

No, I was in there one time.

• 9:08Adam Friedland?

What, but you weren't in there, you were mentioned.

• 9:11Speaker 04

I was mentioned by somebody, I think Steve Bannon sent an article to Epstein saying that I might run for president.

• 9:17Adam Friedland?

Well, all I'm saying is this, everyone's mad at all these folks that are in the Epstein emails, but they're not, you know, do you feel like you get enough credit for not being in the Epstein emails?

• 9:26Speaker 04

Yeah, they just keep me out of that same conversation.

• 9:28Adam Friedland?

Well, actually, we got you, we got you an award. I had this made for you. It's, uh, is Mark Cuban not in the Epstein email?

• 9:36Speaker 04

  Thank you.

• 9:37Adam Friedland?

  Give it to him.

• 9:38Speaker 04

Thank you. I want to thank my family and...

• 9:44Adam Friedland?

I have a bone to pick with you.

• 9:45Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 9:46Adam Friedland?

Okay, last name, we got to talk about first off. Okay, Cuban.

• 9:49Speaker 04

  Yeah. Where'd you come from?

• 9:52Adam Friedland?

  You're, but you're Jewish.

• 9:53Speaker 04

  Yeah, I'm Jewish, yeah.

• 9:54Adam Friedland?

  It's not fair.

• 9:55Speaker 04

  Why?

• 9:56Adam Friedland?

That you get, your last name gets to be that.

• 9:59Speaker 04

It's, it's a, imagine growing up, when I grew up with the last name like Cuban. Like, what do you think my nickname was when I was a little kid?

• 10:06Adam Friedland?

  Heshi Teshowitz.

• 10:07Speaker 04

  Yeah, that, how, right?

• 10:10Adam Friedland?

  Yes, exactly.

• 10:10Speaker 04

Everybody called me Castro, like, up until I was like 17 years old.

• 10:13Adam Friedland?

But that's cool, you're like, you have a cigar in your mouth, you're like, you're, you're a gorilla. Invented the Eurocept, apparently?

• 10:20Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 10:20Adam Friedland?

Do you know about that? Castro invented the Eurocept?

• 10:22Speaker 04

  I did not know that.

• 10:23Adam Friedland?

It's a popular internet, internet, uh, lore. Apparently he could hoop. And he could pitch.

• 10:28Speaker 04

I've seen something about that, yeah, I knew he could play baseball.

• 10:30Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, for the Havana Sugar Kings or something. But, uh, but also, um, yeah, I mean, it's just not fair, like, that I have to just sound, my name sounds like this. My name was Adam Dominican.

• 10:42Speaker 04

Yeah, right, right, no, when I go to, um, when I, before anybody knew who I was, when I would go to Miami, it was always, "Are you, are you, are you?"

• 10:50Adam Friedland?

You're like, it's a little on the nose. What's your real last name?

• 10:54Speaker 04

So where it came from, yeah. So, um, my, like, I'm into genealogy, so I'll give you all.

• 10:59Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, me too.

• 11:00Speaker 04

So, um, my great, great, great, however many generations back, were in, um, Zarys, Russia, right?

• 11:06Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, same.

• 11:07Speaker 04

And, and back then, your name was like Igor Igorovich, or something like that, right? But they wanted to know who the Jews were, and so they told them they had to have a last name. They created last names for them.

• 11:19Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 11:19Speaker 04

And the last names were based off of what town you lived in. And so, my, however many generations back, I lived in this town called Kadimi, right? And then, went from Kadimi to Chabinski, and then when it got more anglicized, it went to Chabinski.

• 11:35Adam Friedland?

  Chabinski.

• 11:36Speaker 04

And then when my grandparents came over on the boat, um, they just started, some people started calling them Cuban. They don't know exactly when or how, but people just started calling them Cuban.

• 11:45Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 11:45Speaker 04

And that was it. That's how it got to that. And literally, on, you know, my, my name is C U B A M, but on my dad's birth certificate, it's spelled C U B I N.

• 11:53Adam Friedland?

  Really?

• 11:54Speaker 04

Yeah, my grandparents didn't speak much of English and all that shit.

• 11:56Adam Friedland?

Well, to me, it's Chabinski, okay? You're on notice, there you go. Yeah, yeah, I'm, I'm actually Landau, apparently.

• 12:03Speaker 04

  Landau?

• 12:04Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 12:04Speaker 04

  As in Martin?

• 12:05Adam Friedland?

My, I think it's literally the same family. I think it was like ta- the family lore is ten brothers and sisters. Nine, nine of them went to Ellis Island, and my dipshit relative went to Cape Town, South Africa. You got on the wrong boat, literally.

• 12:18Speaker 04

Wrong boat, whoops. Wait, have you ever heard of Marty Allen, the old, old, old school comedian?

• 12:22Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 12:23Speaker 04

  That's my great uncle.

• 12:24Adam Friedland?

  Really?

• 12:25Speaker 04

He was like the famous person. You know how every family in the family lore, coming up from the old country, right? But, but your great uncle Martin, your Marty Allen, you know? He's big time with his hair.

• 12:36Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, with the curly hair, yeah, yeah, yeah. You, and so he's got show business in his blood.

• 12:40Speaker 04

  In my blood, yeah, right?

• 12:42Adam Friedland?

All right, I, I wanna just cruise through, like, where you come from. Uh, you grew up in Pitt.

• 12:47Speaker 04

  Pittsburgh, yeah.

• 12:47Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, you went to college, you had a bar?

• 12:50Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 12:50Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. I got some pictures of this goddamn, this, you, this, it was chaos over there.

• 12:54Speaker 04

  Oh, man, it was great.

• 12:56Adam Friedland?

It does, when some of the faces are blacked out, it does kinda look like it's from the episode. Like, this one?

• 13:02Speaker 04

It was blacked out, cuz, yeah, that was for a different reason, yeah.

• 13:04Adam Friedland?

Is this you kiss, you're smooching on the floor?

• 13:07Speaker 04

Oh yeah, that was me, that was, that wasn't from the bar.

• 13:09Adam Friedland?

This is from, this is from the Department of Justice, guys.

• 13:13Speaker 04

No, it is not from the Department of Justice, right?

• 13:15Adam Friedland?

  Yes, this is.

• 13:15Speaker 04

  It was worse.

• 13:17Adam Friedland?

Oh my god, look at, you guys are doing that elephant walk thing with the penis.

• 13:20Speaker 04

Yeah, cuz what that was, was, um...

• 13:21Adam Friedland?

It's pretty cool. So... That's brotherhood.

• 13:24Speaker 04

Rugby teammates, and so, um, I played rugby, and back when, Google, what was the original Google, um, social media thing they came out with? Whatever it was, like in 2008 or whatever?

• 13:36Adam Friedland?

Oh, yes, Google, uh, a reader, read, no, no, no, no, no.

• 13:41Speaker 04

I don't remember, but anyways, so, you know, this is, back then, I was like, okay, I'll put my shit up there, thinking it was private. And, um, then, all of a sudden, I got these emails from a reporter, um, oh my god, whatever the site was, you got it, cuz they're deadspin, right?

• 13:57Adam Friedland?

  Deadspin.

• 13:57Speaker 04

Deadspin, and they're like, "We got all these pictures of you, like, you know, naked pictures, and, um, bucked up things, and doing the elephant walk."

• 14:06Adam Friedland?

Yeah, this one, he's licking the...

• 14:08Speaker 04

  Yeah, right there.

• 14:08Adam Friedland?

This is from Little St. James Island.

• 14:10Speaker 04

  Man, I'm from Miami, right?

• 14:12Adam Friedland?

  That's...

• 14:13Speaker 04

  Yeah, I'm from Miami.

• 14:14Adam Friedland?

  Dude, she...

• 14:14Speaker 04

  And she was 47.

• 14:15Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah, she was 47.

• 14:17Speaker 04

Yeah, but in any event, um, in any event, so, I had all these crazy rugby pictures that I posted, and one of the guy, the reason so much of it is blacked out, is one of the guys, Bob Constantine, he was the one that always liked to get naked, you know, there was always a couple rugby players that, you know, parties.

• 14:34Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 14:34Speaker 04

And so, we had to black him out, but, great guy, and so, he went to Africa to, um...

• 14:40Adam Friedland?

  Oh no, vaccines.

• 14:41Speaker 04

To deal with malaria, right, to save people from...

• 14:43Adam Friedland?

  Really?

• 14:44Speaker 04

And build nets and everything for people, and then he died of malaria, and so, this was like, a month before all this shit came out, and I'm like, look, you got me, right, there's nothing I can do, you're gonna post everything, do me a favor, let me annotate him, right? You don't wanna just fuck with this guy and show his naked pictures of him, after he just died, being a great citizen, right, and doing the right thing, yeah.

• 15:03Adam Friedland?

But he had a, he had a nice one, if he had a nice one, maybe, we could remember.

• 15:07Speaker 04

Yeah, so there's a bar in Indianapolis, there's a bar in Indianapolis, um, and his nickname was Teeny Constantini?

• 15:14Adam Friedland?

No, no, no, no. He's a good man, he's literally a good man. Is that, is that why he started MicroSolutions?

• 15:24Adam Friedland?

  Is that why you started?

• 15:25Speaker 04

This is the best line ever.

• 15:26Adam Friedland?

The best line I've ever heard. Did you ever, did you ever find the solution?

• 15:30Speaker 04

Yeah, I did find the solution.

• 15:31Adam Friedland?

Because I heard that you can increase the girth, but the length never.

• 15:37Speaker 04

And no, oh my god, I can't remember the name. It was a rugby bar in Indianapolis. And literally, they have, they have a picture, a blown up picture of Teeny Godz, you know, Bob Godz. And just standing there naked, you know, to honor him. Because that's how he was for all these rugby players. And there's a picture of him standing naked, holding up a sign. And he has, looking like a flasher at an airport. Literally, it was at an airport. The guy was just a stud. He was amazing. And so that's how they honored him.

• 16:06Adam Friedland?

Who's got the smallest in the NBA? I'm just kidding.

• 16:10Speaker 04

  I don't know, right?

• 16:11Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Has a guy ever made it to league? Because it's so hard to make it to the league.

• 16:15Speaker 04

  Yeah, of course.

• 16:16Adam Friedland?

Right? It's just the chances of making it to the league. And just like, if you have to imagine a guy's got, he needs a micro solution, let's just say, right? And he's worked his ass off his whole life. He goes to D1, he goes to D1 College. He's just been in showers with just legends his whole life. And he makes it to the league? If anything, like, I'm like, there should be like a, that kind of a lore.

• 16:36Speaker 04

So I'll just tell you my one, I'll tell you the one story. I'm not going to name the player.

• 16:40Adam Friedland?

  Okay, yeah.

• 16:41Speaker 04

So when, right when I first.

• 16:42Adam Friedland?

  Popeye Jones.

• 16:43Speaker 04

No, I couldn't. But right when I got to the NBA, I would go out and hang out with some of the guys. And, you know, we were hanging out and, and one of his buddies goes, whoever he touches, female wise.

• 16:58Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 16:58Speaker 04

Let me just tell you, whoever comes in behind him is going to be a hot dog in a hallway.

• 17:05Speaker 04

I was like, point taken, moving on.

• 17:09Adam Friedland?

Wait, so do you ever, do, do you think athletes might get so famous that they might have like affairs on their wives and girlfriends? Is that ever a concern?

• 17:19Speaker 04

No, I stay out of their personal lives.

• 17:21Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. What if you, what if you saw them having an affair and then their lovely wife called you and said, you know, was, what happened? What do you do?

• 17:31Speaker 04

  I'd just say, I wasn't there.

• 17:33Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 17:34Speaker 04

  You know?

• 17:35Adam Friedland?

  Classic, classic.

• 17:36Speaker 04

Yeah, I'm not going to be, I don't get in the middle of people's personal.

• 17:39Adam Friedland?

What happens on Little St. James Stadium?

• 17:43Adam Friedland?

So you, I like, I like this little detail I found. You went to University of Indiana for, or Indiana University.

• 17:51Speaker 04

  Indiana University.

• 17:52Adam Friedland?

  IU, congrats.

• 17:53Speaker 04

  Thank you.

• 17:53Adam Friedland?

  You got a chip.

• 17:54Speaker 04

  Yeah, the natty baby.

• 17:55Adam Friedland?

  Big one, big one.

• 17:56Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 17:56Adam Friedland?

Everyone on the team is 29 years old.

• 17:59Speaker 04

  Doesn't matter.

• 17:59Adam Friedland?

  Doesn't matter.

• 18:00Speaker 04

The score is the score. The score is the score.

• 18:03Adam Friedland?

The score is the score. You chose it because it was the cheapest business school.

• 18:07Speaker 04

Yeah, out of the top 10, yeah.

• 18:09Adam Friedland?

  I love that.

• 18:10Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 18:10Adam Friedland?

I love that. And you paid your way through college, you had some, you were a hustler.

• 18:14Speaker 04

Yeah, totally. I could have to pay for my own school.

• 18:17Adam Friedland?

What is this chain letter situation?

• 18:19Speaker 04

Oh, it was great. That's how I paid for my junior year of college.

• 18:21Adam Friedland?

  What are you, Bernie Madoff?

• 18:23Speaker 04

  You know, close.

• 18:24Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 18:24Speaker 04

So what it was, was one of these things where there was a list, you got a letter, right? And there was a list of 10 people on the letter. And when you start at the bottom, and when you work your way at the top, people are sending you money. So like you, I go, I give the letter to you and you send, back then it was, you gave me $50 because I sold it to you. And then you sent $50 to the person at the top of the list. And then that way, then you work your way up the list. Then the person you sent the money to, you take their name off the list, right? And you work your way up. And it's your job to go out and get more people to participate.

• 18:59Adam Friedland?

  That's smart.

• 19:00Speaker 04

So I made sure I sold all the names up and literally sold it to as many people as possible. Made sure none of the people I sold it to lost any money. They all at least broke even. And then I got up to the top.

• 19:11Adam Friedland?

  Suckers at the bottom.

• 19:13Speaker 04

Suckers at the bottom, right? People got greedy, didn't take care of their own. And, you know, I literally made $400 or $500, which back then was like...

• 19:21Adam Friedland?

  Was your tuition.

• 19:21Speaker 04

  That was my tuition, yeah.

• 19:22Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, $500?

• 19:24Speaker 04

  Crazy, right? Yeah, crazy.

• 19:26Adam Friedland?

Jesus Christ. Our generation is screwed.

• 19:28Speaker 04

  It's fucked, yeah.

• 19:29Adam Friedland?

You moved to Dallas, like, how, how big do you like your women?

• 19:34Speaker 04

Like hair, or? No, no, Dallas women are...

• 19:37Adam Friedland?

  It's not Houston.

• 19:38Speaker 04

  No, it's not.

• 19:39Adam Friedland?

  And it's not San Antonio.

• 19:41Speaker 04

  No, definitely not San Antonio.

• 19:43Adam Friedland?

You know Chuck talks about that.

• 19:44Speaker 04

Chuck talks about it all the time, right?

• 19:46Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 19:46Speaker 04

But, yeah, no, Dallas women are hot.

• 19:49Adam Friedland?

  They're hot?

• 19:50Speaker 04

  Yeah, for sure.

• 19:51Adam Friedland?

And you used to go down to Galveston?

• 19:53Speaker 04

Not often, but a couple of times, yeah.

• 19:55Adam Friedland?

Yeah, and they had the oil in the, in the water?

• 19:57Speaker 04

That part I, I never got to.

• 19:59Adam Friedland?

Did you see that Chuck rant on Dallas?

• 20:01Speaker 04

No, no, I didn't see that.

• 20:02Adam Friedland?

He's like, they go to Cancun, they go to Galveston, they got, they got oily water.

• 20:07Speaker 04

Chuck is the best. Have you ever met Chuck?

• 20:10Adam Friedland?

  No, I read his autobiography.

• 20:12Speaker 04

No, you should have him on.

• 20:13Adam Friedland?

Please get him on right now. Oh my god. Okay, all of my questions are out the window.

• 20:20Speaker 04

  He's the best guy ever.

• 20:21Adam Friedland?

He's my hero. He is the funniest comedian in America.

• 20:26Speaker 04

  By far.

• 20:27Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 20:27Speaker 04

  By far.

• 20:28Adam Friedland?

The funniest comedy show, in fact, the best show is just Inside the NBA. It frustrates me when I see players now, they're all podcasters, because I'm like, I have to... Like, I lied my way into having a meeting with Rich Paul, because I'm like...

• 20:43Speaker 04

  Nice.

• 20:44Adam Friedland?

I was changing agencies, the UTA was like, I was like, "Next time I'm in Los Angeles, I demand a meeting with Rich Paul." And they took it seriously, I guess. They didn't realize I was joking, so I went into this man's office. And I guess now that he's starting a podcast, there was like...

• 20:59Speaker 04

Yeah, he's doing a podcast, yeah.

• 21:00Adam Friedland?

But I was just like, "Can you stop?" Like, if I was the biggest agent in sports, like, I'm doing this because I'm not in the NBA. Like, you know, I have to do this.

• 21:12Speaker 04

  Right?

• 21:12Adam Friedland?

Yeah, and then I'm like, "You just don't, you don't want no part of this life," you know?

• 21:18Speaker 04

Oh, no part of the podcast life?

• 21:19Adam Friedland?

  Why are you podcasting?

• 21:20Speaker 04

  Yeah, you don't understand, right?

• 21:23Adam Friedland?

Why are you doing this? I have to do this. I have no choice, because I'm like 5'10" and like a buck 20 wet or something. No, but like, but then like, yeah, the last 15 minutes, I kind of like, I think, we had a productive conversation, then he just started taking calls. And he was like talking to players, and he was like, "Yeah, I got a couple teams..." Couple teams interested. I'm like, "What? Should I be here for this?"

• 21:47Speaker 04

He's really talking to his mom, is what he's...

• 21:48Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, it's just John Taylor.

• 21:52Adam Friedland?

But, but yeah, at a certain point, I was like just loitering in a man's office, and I kept just, he kept taking calls, and I kept just being like, "I want to say goodbye, never mind." And then, and then he like hangs up on a call, and he goes, "You see, college basketball sucks, dude." And I was like, "Yeah, it does." And he goes, "I'm like, it's been nice being here. I feel like I've been waiting for 20 minutes." And he's like, "Yeah."

• 22:13Speaker 04

He made me wait too, so it's okay.

• 22:14Adam Friedland?

Yeah. What the hell is that? He was doing the golf, do you do golf club?

• 22:18Speaker 04

  No, I hate golf.

• 22:19Adam Friedland?

He did golf club in the office thing, like for movies, where like, he's like having a conversation with me, he's like, "So what's your process?"

• 22:27Speaker 04

  No, he did not.

• 22:28Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 22:28Speaker 04

  Bullshit.

• 22:29Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. How cool is that? That's cool.

• 22:31Speaker 04

  Bullshit.

• 22:31Adam Friedland?

No, but that's like business style. That's like corner office. So what's your process? What drives you?

• 22:38Speaker 04

  Right? Nice swing, right?

• 22:40Adam Friedland?

Okay, first question is like, you suddenly became a billionaire in one moment of your life?

• 22:46Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 22:46Adam Friedland?

What is that? What the fuck is that?

• 22:49Speaker 04

What the fuck is that? So, the company, we started it as AudioNet. And we were the very first streaming company.

• 22:54Adam Friedland?

  Did you call the top?

• 22:55Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 22:56Adam Friedland?

  Doc, you did.

• 22:56Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll get to that, right? And so, started AudioNet with first streaming company, and just growing like a weed. And we were just audio, added video. We renamed ourselves Broadcast.com. Went public. Biggest IPO, first day IPO jump in the history of the stock market at the time. And then a year and a half later, we sold to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in stock.

• 23:19Speaker 04

  In stock though, right?

• 23:20Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 23:20Speaker 04

Right? So then, I was like, look, I don't need to be greedy, right? I got this B next to my name, and I'm happy with that. And so I did this thing called a collar, where it was a public company, Yahoo, and I sold calls and bought puts to protect my downside. And give up some of the upside, protect my downside. Collar. Not, three months later, everything craters. And they called it one of the top 10 trades in Wall Street history.

• 23:44Adam Friedland?

Were they, were you blowing the whistle on the dot com bubble? Like, were you saying like, listen, this is, everything is just...

• 23:49Speaker 04

No, no, the companies were cool.

• 23:51Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 23:52Speaker 04

It was just evaluations in the stock market. Like, literally, I would come to New York and be in a cab, and people would be talking about, oh, you Broadcast.com. Right? Oh, I buy Broadcast. I mean, everybody was talking about stocks. Like, now, people talk about crypto or whatever, but you're not getting in your Uber, and everybody's talking stocks. And that's the difference. It was just, you could just tell, it was just, people were just too excited about trading stocks. There would be ads on television, you know, let's trade stocks. It was just a different world.

• 24:22Adam Friedland?

It's kinda like the Robin Hood thing that happened like five years ago, right? Like, well, there was just like, you know, just all my friends...

• 24:28Speaker 04

Oh yeah, everybody getting to Robin Hood buying and selling crypto.

• 24:30Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, we thought that, we thought...

• 24:32Speaker 04

  To the moon, right?

• 24:32Adam Friedland?

We thought we were the wolves of Wall Street. Yeah. All of us, all of us just got... My friend called me, he's like, "I just lost fifty thousand dollars." He's like, "I think I have a gambling addiction."

• 24:44Speaker 04

  For real?

• 24:46Adam Friedland?

Yeah, so, so, so what, like, what is a billion, like, what is that? Like, what is a billion dollars? Like, what is having a billion? What does it feel like? Does it feel good?

• 24:55Speaker 04

  It feels really good.

• 24:56Adam Friedland?

  Really?

• 24:57Speaker 04

  Really.

• 24:57Adam Friedland?

But what does it do? Like, what, what?

• 24:59Speaker 04

I don't, I don't have to stress about the bullshit I used to have to stress.

• 25:02Adam Friedland?

Not half a billion dollars, you don't have to stress, right?

• 25:04Speaker 04

This is true, but I wasn't gonna give it back.

• 25:07Adam Friedland?

I know, I know, I'm not saying that, but like, your wife's not gonna... Your wife's not gonna understand what a billion dollars is, right?

• 25:14Speaker 04

Nobody does. Like, it was weird, like, when it first happened. I mean, you just, you can't even fathom it.

• 25:21Adam Friedland?

Do you laugh? Did you laugh?

• 25:22Speaker 04

Yes! Like, it was insane, like, I, like, to this day, I mean, it's just like, "How the fuck this happened to me?" But like, when it first happens, it's like, okay, I, I mean, I remember the moment, right? And it was like, this, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, how did this happen?" And then your first inclination is, "What changes?" You know, and for me, it was like, I wanted to buy a plane, and so...

• 25:44Adam Friedland?

The plane is the thing, right?

• 25:45Speaker 04

The plane is the thing, yeah.

• 25:46Adam Friedland?

Cause you could be like, "I wanna go to Tokyo for dinner."

• 25:48Speaker 04

  I can go right now.

• 25:49Adam Friedland?

  That's crazy.

• 25:50Speaker 04

Yeah, I can go right now.

• 25:52Adam Friedland?

"I wanna go to Brazil for, for, to shop for one thing."

• 25:56Speaker 04

  Let's go.

• 25:57Adam Friedland?

  Really? You could do that?

• 25:58Speaker 04

  I can do that.

• 25:59Adam Friedland?

Do you wanna go to Magic City right now?

• 26:01Speaker 04

  The wings, right?

• 26:02Adam Friedland?

We gotta get the lemon pepper loose. So the plane, so, so I guess it's just kind of like, the plane is the thing?

• 26:09Speaker 04

The plane's what you can buy, you know, like, now with a billion dollars, you can't afford a sports team. Back then, you could, right? It's crazy, but, um, so the plane was one thing, but the weird part was, like, how everybody else responds to you. Like, my brothers, my parents, my friends.

• 26:24Adam Friedland?

  Oh, the jackals.

• 26:25Speaker 04

Right, well, they just don't know, right? So like, okay, you know, what's gonna change? Like, I had one dude that I was kinda like, a running buddy type dude, that I wasn't close to, but, um, he, he just, he sent me a letter, right? Didn't ask me, sent me a letter, asking for two hundred seventy-five thousand dollars.

• 26:40Adam Friedland?

And he said, "He's gonna give two hundred seventy-five thousand dollars to the next person."

• 26:44Speaker 04

Right? And put your name at the bottom of the list.

• 26:49Adam Friedland?

But like, you, you know, you, you still, you still go to Costco and stuff?

• 26:52Speaker 04

I go to Target, yeah, I go to Walmart, just whatever, yeah.

• 26:55Adam Friedland?

  He's just like, "Oh, see."

• 26:57Speaker 04

  Right?

• 26:58Adam Friedland?

I mean, I, my, here's my take, right? A billion dollars, like, you're not...

• 27:05Adam Friedland?

You kind of, you just want to have more money than other guys, right?

• 27:09Speaker 04

  At the beginning.

• 27:09Adam Friedland?

It's a little bit like you're thinking about other guys all day.

• 27:12Speaker 04

  All day.

• 27:13Adam Friedland?

The only plausible way to do it, in my mind, is if you have a team, right?

• 27:18Speaker 04

That's where my head was, yeah.

• 27:20Adam Friedland?

It's, it must be the best thing ever.

• 27:24Speaker 04

  When you're winning.

• 27:25Adam Friedland?

Well, no, you even, well, yes, right.

• 27:28Speaker 04

  When you're losing, it's brutal.

• 27:29Adam Friedland?

When you, I remember you coming into the league and being the loudmouth owner

• 27:34Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 27:34Adam Friedland?

  of the Dallas Mavericks.

• 27:35Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 27:35Adam Friedland?

And then, I, I'm a Laker fan, so I'm like, oh, fucking, screw this guy. But then in reality, it's like, if I had my own boys, my squad, like, I would be doing it like you.

• 27:45Speaker 04

Oh, my God, it was so much, like, when I first got in, and nobody knew what to expect and didn't know shit about me, I mean, I would fuck with everybody. Like, I'd, you know, I'd get fined for shit, but like, Phil Jackson, right? So, he and I, because back then, you know, regular old-school media, right? You could just talk to a reporter and everybody would see it.

• 28:01Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 28:02Speaker 04

And so, like, he would talk shit about me, oh, he doesn't know that, I would just talk shit right back. So, like, I called him my bucket boy, I called him my piss boy, and I'm, and I'm getting interviewed.

• 28:12Adam Friedland?

  Piss boy, the zen master?

• 28:14Speaker 04

Right, the zen master is my piss boy.

• 28:16Adam Friedland?

  Your piss boy?

• 28:16Speaker 04

Right, because it's from this old Mel Brooks movie, right? Where there's this thing about piss boy, piss boy, and so, it's just like...

• 28:23Adam Friedland?

Oh, like, uh, like, uh, the chamber pot, yeah, yeah.

• 28:26Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 28:27Adam Friedland?

Why did, why did Phil Jackson?

• 28:29Speaker 04

Just because he would fuck with me, and, you know, I would fuck with him right back.

• 28:32Adam Friedland?

How old were you when you bought the Mavs?

• 28:34Speaker 04

  Forty-one.

• 28:35Adam Friedland?

  Sick.

• 28:36Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 28:36Adam Friedland?

Sick. And there, there are younger guys now, there's Pera in...

• 28:39Speaker 04

  Yeah, Robert Pera, yeah.

• 28:40Adam Friedland?

How old was he when he bought it?

• 28:41Speaker 04

I think he was, I don't know, I don't even know with Robert, because he never would show up to the meetings, so I don't know.

• 28:46Adam Friedland?

Yeah, what was his thing, it was from, like, routers?

• 28:48Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 28:48Adam Friedland?

  He has the best routers?

• 28:49Speaker 04

I don't know if he has the best, but Russia buys a lot of them.

• 28:51Adam Friedland?

I know. Your, your boy Pablo just did a thing on it.

• 28:54Speaker 04

  Yeah, I saw it, yeah.

• 28:55Adam Friedland?

  Your boy Pablo.

• 28:56Speaker 04

  My boy Pablo.

• 28:57Adam Friedland?

Should we call him right now, should we prank him?

• 28:58Speaker 04

You can call Pablo, I don't care. Or Pera? I don't know, Pera's stuff, I don't know, I don't know him at all.

• 29:03Adam Friedland?

You and Pablo were beefing, right, about the Ballmer thing?

• 29:05Speaker 04

No, I wasn't beefing, I get along great with Pablo, right? It's just that we just disagreed.

• 29:09Adam Friedland?

I just want to just talk a little bit about that 2011 run. Because I think the NBA, we don't really see Cinderella runs like that.

• 29:18Speaker 04

  And that was...

• 29:19Adam Friedland?

And... What like what when did you know there was something happening?

• 29:25Speaker 04

Um, not till we got past um the Lakers. You know, when we swept the Lakers, then I knew, because I'm always the type that I'm because in 2006, we made it to the finals. We go up 2-0 against the Heat. And I'll never forget, it's the third quarter, we're up 14 points, I'm standing behind the bench, and I'm thinking to myself, we might sweep these motherfuckers, right? And then two minutes later, you know, boom, it all falls apart. So I never got like cocky or overconfident thinking this is going to happen. Until like, there's a picture of me next to the bench with like 30 seconds to go and we're up 10. And there's just a bunch of us, me, Brendan Haywood, you know, Deshaun Stevens, just screaming at the top of our lungs.

• 30:08Speaker 04

And it's not, it's, that's all the stress release, right? Because when you get into the playoffs, it's stressful as fuck.

• 30:15Adam Friedland?

  I can imagine.

• 30:16Speaker 04

Yeah, because you're just going, going, going. And the further you get, the more stressful it becomes.

• 30:20Adam Friedland?

Was there a satisfying aspect about the like not one, not two, not three about like beating them?

• 30:25Speaker 04

Beating the shit out of it, yeah. Yeah, the best part about that, no matter where I went, people would just clap. Like I came to New York, I had, I had an event that I had to do in New York. And I got off the plane, right, my plane, I got off my plane. And literally, the people that were just working at the airport started clapping.

• 30:43Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 30:43Speaker 04

I walked into a restaurant here.

• 30:45Adam Friedland?

  Did you beat LeBron?

• 30:46Speaker 04

Yeah, because we beat LeBron, you know? And I walked into a restaurant here, people stood up and started clapping.

• 30:51Adam Friedland?

In retrospect, they kind of like that year, kind of I feel like was what, I think he was beloved, and then there was the, the decision.

• 31:00Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 31:00Adam Friedland?

And then that last press conference after JJ snatched his soul. After JJ Berar literally snatched his soul.

• 31:08Speaker 04

  Took him.

• 31:09Adam Friedland?

  Oh, that's your boy, Stu?

• 31:11Speaker 04

  Took him.

• 31:13Speaker 04

You know, just, just ask Bad Bunny, right?

• 31:15Adam Friedland?

That, that, that, that fucking press conference, like where he's being a dickhead. Uh, Clash Sports and UTA Family, uh, but.

• 31:23Speaker 04

I remember because I was drunk.

• 31:25Adam Friedland?

Yeah, you had to be hammered, but he was like, they were like, what do you say to your like, your critics? And he's like, you're poor, and you're not LeBron James, tomorrow you're gonna wake up poor. And I'm just, and from the, like, I saw him be like a darling of the league, and then from the decision that.

• 31:41Speaker 04

  It changed.

• 31:42Adam Friedland?

A year later, I think like his reputation still hasn't kind of recovered.

• 31:46Speaker 04

Yeah, I mean. You know, he's LeBron.

• 31:50Adam Friedland?

  He's LeBron.

• 31:50Speaker 04

  He's LeBron.

• 31:51Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 31:52Speaker 04

I mean, I don't know, well, he's cool, he's cool to me. Right, because he produces movies and he, he's given me cameos in a bunch of his movies. So, that's my guy.

• 31:59Adam Friedland?

Wait, can you tell me about my, my goat a little bit? I know he was on your team. My goat, a little bit. Kobe, Kobe Bean.

• 32:07Speaker 04

Oh, yeah? Yeah. Kobe's the real deal, yeah, we miss him.

• 32:11Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 32:12Speaker 04

I had a great relationship with Kobe.

• 32:13Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 32:14Speaker 04

  You know.

• 32:14Adam Friedland?

He liked it if you were mean to him.

• 32:15Speaker 04

Yeah, no, because I fucked him, like I said, they should amnesty him. And then this was like the anniversary, like 13 year anniversary of me saying that and him coming and torching the Mavs for 40 some points.

• 32:27Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 32:27Speaker 04

And then saying, yeah, then saying amnesty that, you know?

• 32:30Adam Friedland?

There was a Lakers Mavs game a couple of years ago where Luka was maybe his second year or third year. And he was just going possession for possession with LeBron in that fourth quarter. Do you remember that game?

• 32:41Speaker 04

  Uh huh.

• 32:42Adam Friedland?

It was like a regular season game. It was like, I was just like, it was unbelievable.

• 32:45Speaker 04

That's when you saw what Luka was all about.

• 32:47Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's your, that's your, that's your, that's your favorite guy.

• 32:52Speaker 04

  Luka?

• 32:53Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 32:53Speaker 04

Cooper Flag? No, I love Luka. Luka's my guy.

• 32:56Adam Friedland?

How does that feel, Cooper Flag?

• 32:57Speaker 04

  It's incredible.

• 32:58Adam Friedland?

The domestic whites. We let these Euros come over here and.

• 33:02Speaker 04

  The domestic whites.

• 33:03Adam Friedland?

Be better at sports than us. And then now the riot, Chet and Cooper Flag. It's Wakanda a little bit for us, no? It's representation. Right? When I'm like, I watched Austin Reeves on the Lakers, I'm like, if I played on a team with LeBron James, I would be busting my ass like this guy. Right?

• 33:22Speaker 04

And look what's happened, you know?

• 33:23Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 33:24Speaker 04

  Austin's become a hell of a player.

• 33:25Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:26Speaker 04

  Hell of a player.

My morning flew by and I didn't have time to cook anything. And I looked at the clock and now it's 10 a.m. and I'm hungry. And it's March?

• 33:39Adam Friedland?

That's what I said to myself, realizing that life is super chaotic and we just don't have the time to do everything we want. What do I want? Easy nutrition that's ready for me whenever I want and actually tastes good. This is where my friends at Huell come in, sponsor of the podcast, that's H-U-E-L. Huell is a perfect solution for high protein, routine support, busy days, habit building, convenience and control this year. That was a little fast. I have goals to be healthier and keep on top of my nutrition this year and fortunately I've found an easy way to stick to my habits, all without compromising my nutrition and goals. This is thanks to Huell.

• 34:20Adam Friedland?

If I'm being honest, I'm absolutely the person who looks up at 1pm and realizes I've had coffee, just coffee. No breakfast, no lunch, just caffeine. So lately I've been keeping Huell Black Edition around to stop myself from doing that. How's that performance? On days I'm sprinting out the door, I grab a Black Edition ready to drink. It's a complete meal. 35 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber, 27 essential vitamins and minerals, no artificial sweeteners, and it's just under $5.00, which is kind of amazing because it's cheaper than

• 35:02Adam Friedland?

a latte and actually keeps me full. Am I losing my mind right now? Which is kind of amazing because it's cheaper than a latte and actually keeps me full until lunch. And I know what you're asking. Does it taste good? Answer, really good. My go-to is the chocolate peanut butter. Actually so, so good.

• 35:23Adam Friedland?

Then on days when I want something more customizable, I of course use the Black Edition powder. I blend it with ice and milk if I'm doing the whole smoothie moment.

• 35:34Adam Friedland?

Or I'll just shake it with water if I'm being lazy. With a bigger boost of 40 grams of protein, same complete nutrition, just a different vibe. The RTD Plus Powder Duo has basically become my insurance policy against chaotic days. Limited time offer, get Huel today with my exclusive offer of 50% off online with my code TAFS at huel.com/tafs. • 40:20Adam Friedland?

How much involvement did you have in like transactions?

• 40:23Speaker 04

  Everything.

• 40:24Adam Friedland?

  Everything?

• 40:24Speaker 04

  Everything was my final decision.

• 40:25Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. And so you like developed into like, you had to learn the cap and you had the CBA, all that stuff?

• 40:32Speaker 04

  All of it, yeah.

• 40:32Adam Friedland?

Yeah. What do you think the worst trade was in NBA history?

• 40:38Speaker 04

I don't know, maybe, there were a couple of trades in February of 2025 that weren't that good. But I don't want to judge.

• 40:44Adam Friedland?

Which one, which one was it?

• 40:46Speaker 04

I think there was a deal with the Lakers, but I forget.

• 40:52Adam Friedland?

No, I, it's, what did that do to you? Did you feel like you put 20 years into something and then you were like, what the fuck has happened?

• 41:00Speaker 04

  Pretty much.

• 41:01Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 41:01Speaker 04

Yeah, I remember exactly where I was. I was talking to Governor Andy Beshear, speaking of governors, right?

• 41:06Adam Friedland?

  Of Kentucky?

• 41:06Speaker 04

Of Kentucky, yeah. Literally, I was at a healthcare event and, or at an event talking about healthcare. And there was like six or seven people, politicians and shit. And we were having a beer and I got a text from our general manager and he's like, hey, give me a call. Nico, yeah.

• 41:23Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, you hired him.

• 41:24Speaker 04

  I hired him.

• 41:25Adam Friedland?

  Do you regret it?

• 41:28Speaker 04

Yeah, in hindsight now, it was a mistake, but, whatever. But, yeah, he was like, Mark, call me, or, you know, and I did. And that's when I, when he told me about it, I thought he was asking me as opposed to telling me. He's like, no, it's done. I'm like, what the fuck? And that was it.

• 41:43Adam Friedland?

Do you, when you own a team, do you feel like there's like an extra kind of layer of responsibility? Because you have a responsibility kind of to a community, right?

• 41:51Speaker 04

Yeah, for sure. Like, I would say it all the time. I didn't own the team. I just responsible for the Bills and the fans own the team.

• 41:57Adam Friedland?

Yeah, and like, to some extent, like, I mean, it's not your fault. If somebody goes wrong, there's like a, I mean, God forbid, but there's like a domestic violence. If somebody goes right, like then a guy from the Eagle, like an Eagles fan will get to. Eat a piece of poo poo.

• 42:10Speaker 04

  Right?

• 42:10Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, you know.

• 42:11Speaker 04

You know, you gotta set your sights high, right?

• 42:13Adam Friedland?

The community kinda depends on it.

• 42:14Speaker 04

No, I mean, look, when you're winning, when you're going on a champ, like the Eagles or whatever, you're going on a championship run.

• 42:19Adam Friedland?

  And they love.

• 42:20Speaker 04

The whole city, the whole city's on fire.

• 42:22Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's their favorite food. A poop hoagie. So why did you decide to sell? I mean, like, it had to, you had 20 years, you were like.

• 42:32Speaker 04

  Yeah, 23 years, yeah.

• 42:33Adam Friedland?

You, 23, you love, you love that shit. You were loving it more than any other owner, I can tell.

• 42:39Speaker 04

Yeah, but it got, it got to the point where.

• 42:43Adam Friedland?

Your kids had to have been like, having so much fun.

• 42:46Speaker 04

They were, they were having fun, but I was, you know, I don't want it to be a situation where they felt forced to follow my footsteps. You know, because I've seen other teams where the son takes over, you know, and kinda like, it's just the expectation.

• 43:00Adam Friedland?

Oh, your son is a problem?

• 43:01Speaker 04

No, my son is cool as hell. He loves basketball.

• 43:03Adam Friedland?

Yeah, but he would fuck up the team, you're saying?

• 43:04Speaker 04

No, he wouldn't fuck up the team.

• 43:05Adam Friedland?

You're saying your son is worse than Nico Harrison?

• 43:08Speaker 04

No, my son would run circles around Nico Harrison. My son knows his shit, right? Football even more than basketball, but, you know, it was just to the point where it just wasn't as much fun anymore, you know, and I, I wanted to do this healthcare thing, and that was starting to take off, and I don't want my kids to feel the pressure to follow my footsteps. And it was just like, it was a constant battle, and, you know, inside the NBA, it was all about valuations. Like, when I first got started with David Stern, and then even when Adam took over, it was all about fans and making the league better and improving the experience.

• 43:44Adam Friedland?

  It's a global profile, too.

• 43:45Speaker 04

Yeah, and all that stuff, too. They were smart. They were smarter than I was in that stuff. But then, all of a sudden, you know, teams changed hands, and all the meetings were about, you know, valuations, and not about improving the teams or improving the game itself. And I was just like, okay, I don't need this shit anymore.

• 44:01Adam Friedland?

In like, uh, do you feel like you sold at the top?

• 44:04Speaker 04

  No.

• 44:04Adam Friedland?

  Was it? No.

• 44:05Speaker 04

No, no, I left money on the table.

• 44:06Adam Friedland?

Yeah, because you're, it didn't feel like a Mark Cuban deal, right?

• 44:09Speaker 04

  It, because I expected.

• 44:11Adam Friedland?

The Bucks got like a similar valuation right after you sold, right?

• 44:14Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah.

• 44:14Adam Friedland?

  And it's like, that's a.

• 44:15Speaker 04

  Different markets, yeah.

• 44:16Adam Friedland?

  It's a smaller market.

• 44:17Speaker 04

Yeah, for sure. No, I left money on the table. You know, financially, it was not a good move for me, or I made mistakes. And I did it that way because I expected that I would continue to run the team, right? Because.

• 44:27Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 44:27Speaker 04

And that's just not what happened. Um, and.

• 44:30Adam Friedland?

What was your title after that? Basketball operations?

• 44:32Speaker 04

No, I was going to be in charge of basketball operations, but the, the league had these stipulations and we couldn't get it into the contract. And I trusted the guy and the guy didn't live up to what he shook hands on and so.

• 44:44Adam Friedland?

Did he force you out or the league force you out?

• 44:46Speaker 04

Um, basically Nico forced me out because he got.

• 44:48Adam Friedland?

  The guy you hired?

• 44:49Speaker 04

The guy I hired got the new guy.

• 44:51Adam Friedland?

  Killed your son?

• 44:51Speaker 04

  Yeah, right?

• 44:52Adam Friedland?

  Jesus Christ.

• 44:53Speaker 04

Got the new guy to basically trust him and ignore me.

• 44:56Adam Friedland?

Do you think Nico Harrison's done better with his, uh, role, uh, overseeing Trump's trade policy?

• 45:04Speaker 04

You know, I noticed the similarities. Yeah, yeah, I think he, I think he has.

• 45:07Adam Friedland?

Is, is, is the tariff thing, is a Nico joint?

• 45:12Speaker 04

You know what? I think you're right.

• 45:13Adam Friedland?

  I think.

• 45:14Speaker 04

Because, you know, tie it back, right? Nobody really gets this, but you were the first, right? Tennis shoes.

• 45:20Adam Friedland?

  Uh huh.

• 45:21Speaker 04

  Manufactured overseas.

• 45:22Adam Friedland?

I call them basketball shoes, aren't they?

• 45:23Speaker 04

Basketball shoes, yeah. Basketball shoes, sneakers, manufactured overseas.

• 45:27Adam Friedland?

  Right.

• 45:28Speaker 04

  Right? Tariffs.

• 45:29Adam Friedland?

  Right, right.

• 45:31Speaker 04

Because Nike manufactures everything overseas, right? And it's not just.

• 45:35Adam Friedland?

  Jews, of course, yeah.

• 45:38Speaker 04

You know? Right? And so, yeah, of course.

• 45:42Adam Friedland?

There's a speculation that, um, that Miriam Adelson wants to move the team to Tel Aviv. What do you think? What do you make of that?

• 45:50Speaker 04

  I don't, I don't see it.

• 45:51Adam Friedland?

  You don't think that?

• 45:52Speaker 04

  No.

• 45:52Adam Friedland?

Yeah. Did it change your whole perspective on the whole, what, what's going on over there thing at the trade?

• 45:58Speaker 04

No, no, no. I actually like Miriam, yeah. Miriam's cool. She, you know, we, we made agreement not to talk politics and that.

• 46:03Adam Friedland?

Right, you and Miriam, yeah, yeah, yeah. Here is a question, though. There is a speculation about the, uh, what, what's happening in Austin, lobbying in Austin for the gaming.

• 46:12Speaker 04

  Uh huh.

• 46:13Adam Friedland?

It's a red state. It's the single biggest donor to the Republican Party, the Edelsons. Like, why have they been unsuccessful in Austin? I don't understand.

• 46:25Speaker 04

  I mean-

• 46:25Adam Friedland?

It doesn't make sense to me.

• 46:26Speaker 04

Texas politics is a different beast.

• 46:28Adam Friedland?

Well, they don't go to work. They go to work like two months a year.

• 46:30Speaker 04

  Right, yeah, every two years.

• 46:31Adam Friedland?

  Every two years?

• 46:32Speaker 04

Yeah, every two years they go to work. And so, yeah, it's just a different beast and there's, you know, the people in charge have got to be able to bring the bill and all this stuff. I'm not into the Texas politics.

• 46:43Adam Friedland?

I mean, Trump was literally like, Miriam gives so much money, like she wanted the Golan Heights, I gave her the Golan Heights, and she got the Golan Heights but she couldn't get a casino in Dallas?

• 46:51Speaker 04

  You know, I mean-

• 46:52Adam Friedland?

  It's weird.

• 46:52Speaker 04

That shows you who has the power.

• 46:54Adam Friedland?

Greg Abbott? Oh. No, but she does, no, it doesn't. It's a, it's a-

• 46:59Speaker 04

Like I said, even more power than the president.

• 47:02Adam Friedland?

I, do you think that there's like, like, why, what happened? Like, like, why was Luka offered one team? Like, it, it, do you think, like, do the people of Dallas, or do you, as a former owner, feel satisfied in an explanation? Like, do you feel like-

• 47:19Speaker 04

No, no one was satisfied with the explanation.

• 47:22Adam Friedland?

But why one team? I'm a Laker fan too, so you don't even have to, yeah, don't actually find it's fine. Israel wanted a family.

• 47:29Adam Friedland?

  No, but what, like-

• 47:30Speaker 04

It made no sense to anybody.

• 47:31Adam Friedland?

  It made no sense, right?

• 47:32Speaker 04

It was like, if you're gonna trade him, okay, you can make an argument, you're gonna trade him. But at least get as much as Desmond Bain.

• 47:40Speaker 04

  I'm not here.

• 47:42Adam Friedland?

  Who is? Miriam?

• 47:44Speaker 04

  Miriam, right.

• 47:52Speaker 04

  Bathroom repair guys?

• 47:54Adam Friedland?

There, you see, there's like literally a toilet in the wall.

• 47:56Speaker 04

  I saw, yeah, I saw.

• 47:57Adam Friedland?

  So embarrassing.

• 47:58Speaker 04

I saw someone that's used it, that was the embarrassing part. Am I wrong, right? There was shit in there. Look, wait, let's go back to this, right?

• 48:05Adam Friedland?

  Does it feel-

• 48:05Speaker 04

Wait, let's go back to this, right?

• 48:06Adam Friedland?

  What is this?

• 48:07Speaker 04

  I'm rich, I'm Jewish.

• 48:09Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 48:09Speaker 04

Nobody ever fucking invites me to that shit, right?

• 48:12Adam Friedland?

Yeah, you don't even get on the island.

• 48:13Speaker 04

  I didn't get an email.

• 48:14Adam Friedland?

Did you feel like a loser a little bit, like not finding your name more in the-

• 48:18Speaker 04

No, Jeff, no, that shit, no. But I'm just talking about the Trilateral Commission, right?

• 48:21Adam Friedland?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 48:22Speaker 04

  Come on.

• 48:22Adam Friedland?

  The Protocols of the Elders.

• 48:24Speaker 04

  Yes.

• 48:24Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 48:25Speaker 04

  Like, the real shit.

• 48:26Adam Friedland?

Did you at least get an invite to one of the Sterling Freak-offs?

• 48:30Speaker 04

  No, but.

• 48:32Adam Friedland?

What was it like seeing that guy at the Board of Governors?

• 48:34Speaker 04

It was different. And it wasn't the Board of Governors meetings. He would have gatherings, like when they had the All-Star game there, whatever. Oh, my God, it was, it was kind of weird, yeah.

• 48:42Adam Friedland?

I had Blake on the show and it was, I was like, he would like, he would bring in like other like gargoyles to be like, "These are the tremendous bodies of the beautiful boys on the team." Blake said he was in a towel and Sterling took his hand and he goes, "My best player, hip hip hooray." And he lifted his hand up.

• 49:00Speaker 04

  It doesn't surprise me.

• 49:01Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. Did you, you didn't go do anything like that? You just, uh, in the locker room? You didn't say, "This is, this is Hesey Teshwin."

• 49:10Speaker 04

Hesey was a legend, though. Hesey never wore, you knew it was Hesey because he never wore.

• 49:15Adam Friedland?

  Look at DeAndre Jordan.

• 49:19Adam Friedland?

Yeah, what was that guy like? Tell me a little bit.

• 49:22Speaker 04

  DJ, DeAndre?

• 49:23Adam Friedland?

  No, no, no, no, no.

• 49:23Speaker 04

  Oh, Donald Sterling?

• 49:24Adam Friedland?

  DS.

• 49:25Speaker 04

  DS, yeah.

• 49:28Speaker 04

  He was different.

• 49:28Adam Friedland?

He looked like, uh, like Sméagol a little bit, no?

• 49:33Speaker 04

He was prototypical, that's for sure, like.

• 49:36Adam Friedland?

What did he say to like V, his girlfriend?

• 49:38Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 49:39Adam Friedland?

He's like, "I don't want to see you with black guys."

• 49:41Speaker 04

  It was, it was sad.

• 49:42Adam Friedland?

  He was a racist? Yeah.

• 49:44Speaker 04

I mean, and literally like, I, he, I went to one thing, I think, that the NBA put on that he hosted, because it was always really uncomfortable.

• 49:54Adam Friedland?

  A white party?

• 49:55Speaker 04

It was a white party, yeah. Yeah, um, but it was NBA hosted, I think it was All-Star game or something. And it was always uncomfortable. And he reminded me of my old Jewish grandfather.

• 50:06Adam Friedland?

Oh, you'd think your grandfather was like that.

• 50:08Speaker 04

  Yeah, and so, you know.

• 50:10Adam Friedland?

  Cuban with an I.

• 50:11Speaker 04

Yeah, and it was just like, he was, my grandfather was a little bit racist and he just reminded me of that.

• 50:16Adam Friedland?

Yeah, but that's what a grandfather is, honestly. Yeah, fair play. Wait, did you have a relationship with Jerry when you were in Dallas?

• 50:24Speaker 04

  Jerry Jones?

• 50:25Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 50:25Speaker 04

Yeah, I got along great with Jerry.

• 50:26Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's that, I have a question, like, did it, like, you're the owner of the team, did it feel like, you know that clip, did you see the clip of Jerry talking about like, he's like five, he's like five foot nine, four four, forty, uh, two hundred and eighty pounds, eight and a half inches hard? Did you, about one of his players?

• 50:45Speaker 04

I missed that, I missed that one.

• 50:47Adam Friedland?

There's a lot of measuring as a, in sports.

• 50:50Speaker 04

And you're the one bringing it up every single time.

• 50:53Adam Friedland?

Not penises, I mean, just guys' bodies, it's a little bit. Dude, you have to hire maybe, maybe a black guy to do the measuring.

• 51:01Adam Friedland?

You don't want to be measuring as a white guy. That's the ona.

• 51:04Speaker 04

  Do you need a job?

• 51:05Adam Friedland?

The ona of my teeth. I'm not saying the penises. I'm just saying like, how high they can jump and you're just a little bit, you don't want to do the measuring.

• 51:12Speaker 04

You go back to it a lot.

• 51:14Adam Friedland?

Not the penis dude. You got a nasty mind dude. I had, you know, I had Kevin on the show.

• 51:20Speaker 04

  Which Kevin?

• 51:21Adam Friedland?

  Your Kevin, O'Leary.

• 51:22Speaker 04

  Oh, Kevin, Kevin O'Leary?

• 51:23Adam Friedland?

You know Shark Tank's real to him?

• 51:26Speaker 04

  His what?

• 51:27Adam Friedland?

I think Shark Tank is real for him.

• 51:29Speaker 04

  I mean, it's real.

• 51:30Adam Friedland?

He's like, and I can't stand when Barbara and Lori tell the, I was like, I like when you yell at kids and he's like, and Barbara, and I can see their idea. It stinks like shit. I can smell it from over here. Barbara and Lori are telling these little four-year-olds, oh, the great idea.

• 51:45Speaker 04

  That's Kevin. That's Kevin.

• 51:47Adam Friedland?

I'm like, it's real? It's not just TV?

• 51:49Speaker 04

  No, it's real, for sure.

• 51:50Adam Friedland?

  He, you left the show.

• 51:51Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 51:52Adam Friedland?

  You miss it.

• 51:53Speaker 04

Um, I miss the people. It was fun to see.

• 51:54Adam Friedland?

He cried when you left. I saw.

• 51:56Speaker 04

  He did.

• 51:56Adam Friedland?

You guys did a cheers and he cried.

• 51:58Speaker 04

  Yes, thanks for watching.

• 51:59Adam Friedland?

  It was very tender.

• 51:59Speaker 04

It was tender. It was a good moment. I mean, all the sharks got along great and the crew and everybody, you know? And we had our shit eater too, and so we all celebrated them and.

• 52:08Adam Friedland?

  Who, Barbara?

• 52:09Speaker 04

  Um, no, not Barbara.

• 52:10Adam Friedland?

  Oh, sorry.

• 52:11Speaker 04

  The staff, yeah.

• 52:12Adam Friedland?

  Barbara's.

• 52:12Speaker 04

  Barbara's a beast.

• 52:13Adam Friedland?

  Barbara's a beast.

• 52:14Speaker 04

Oh my God, like, the outtakes from Shark Tank would be like the number one rated show. Because half the time, if there's a good-looking guy comes in to pitch, here's Barbara as they're walking up.

• 52:24Adam Friedland?

I feel like Barbara, I feel like Barbara can just dates like Brazilian 22-year-olds.

• 52:30Speaker 04

Both of them, yeah. I mean, like, not, not just one.

• 52:32Adam Friedland?

  Lori too?

• 52:32Speaker 04

No, no, no, not just one. Like Barbara wants them all. Like, she's like, I'm at that point in my life where just, bring it hard, baby.

• 52:39Adam Friedland?

  Bro.

• 52:41Speaker 04

  Oh, Barbara's a freak.

• 52:42Adam Friedland?

  Barbara a freak?

• 52:43Speaker 04

  I love her to death.

• 52:43Adam Friedland?

We were talking about this yesterday. We were talking about this yesterday, boys. Of course Barbara's a freak.

• 52:48Speaker 04

You know what, when she had her.

• 52:49Adam Friedland?

How did we get this? Cause we were like gonna ask about it. We're like, oh, Barbara's seen, she a real freak.

• 52:53Speaker 04

You know what happened at her birthday party, right?

• 52:55Adam Friedland?

  No.

• 52:55Speaker 04

Where she, she had a birthday party. We're like, where's Barbara? Where's Barbara? And everybody was like, special surprise.

• 53:00Adam Friedland?

  She was stuffing? No.

• 53:02Speaker 04

  Worse.

• 53:02Adam Friedland?

  No, worse than schtupping.

• 53:03Speaker 04

  Worse than schtupping.

• 53:04Adam Friedland?

  I think schtupping is nice.

• 53:06Speaker 04

But in a party with a hundred people, but

• 53:08Adam Friedland?

  It's her party.

• 53:09Speaker 04

  There's a casket.

• 53:12Speaker 04

And literally, we all walk up and they say, "Last rites", and then Barbara gets out of the casket.

• 53:17Adam Friedland?

  Hilarious.

• 53:18Speaker 04

  And the party starts.

• 53:19Adam Friedland?

Was she wearing like a sexy outfit or something? Or like a bikini, like jumping out of a cake?

• 53:25Speaker 04

No, no, no, no. No, no, just regular.

• 53:27Adam Friedland?

No, no, just regular. We love Barbara.

• 53:29Speaker 04

I love Barbara to death. She's the best.

• 53:31Adam Friedland?

Tell me, how did Damon go from a common street hustler to a fashion entrepreneur? I'm sorry. I've watched so much of that show, because like, I do stand up on the road. And when you're in a hotel, you just

• 53:43Speaker 04

And it's just on CNBC all day.

• 53:45Adam Friedland?

You just watch Shark Tank for like nine hours, go to the comedy club, go back, see Kevin yell at a child.

• 53:55Adam Friedland?

I want to talk to you about your pharmaceutical

• 53:59Speaker 04

  Cost Plus Drugs.

• 54:00Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. One thing that I don't, I, listen, I'm not a fucking, I know nothing about business, right? I, I, I, I, literally, I'm a psychopath, whatever this is, I don't know. Like, this is my business.

• 54:14Speaker 04

And it's a good business. Your mom is proud.

• 54:16Adam Friedland?

  And the business is good.

• 54:17Speaker 04

  The business is good.

• 54:18Adam Friedland?

Okay. But is it true that Trump has his own Trump Drugs Company?

• 54:24Speaker 04

  Yeah, Trump RX.

• 54:25Adam Friedland?

  Did he, and he copied?

• 54:26Speaker 04

Yeah. But his is not as good. His does not measure up.

• 54:31Adam Friedland?

  What is your, just explain?

• 54:32Speaker 04

  So my company's called CostPlusDrugs.com.

• 54:33Adam Friedland?

  Okay.

• 54:34Speaker 04

And what it is, it's a very transparent pharmacy. So when you go to CostPlusDrugs.com, you can put in the name and unlike anywhere else, we'll show you our cost. You just mark it up 15%, $5 for shipping, and you save a lot of money.

• 54:47Adam Friedland?

  Okay.

• 54:47Speaker 04

Right? And so we've saved millions of people a shit ton of money. And they thought it was a good idea. So they copied us, but we still work with them. Because I don't care, as long as people get cheap meds, I'm happy.

• 54:57Adam Friedland?

Yeah. And so then Trump, now there's Trump Drugs or whatever?

• 55:00Speaker 04

  Trump, just Trump RX.

• 55:01Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. You were kind of positioning yourself as kind of the anti-Trump billionaire for a second.

• 55:06Speaker 04

Yeah, that's just, you know, he is who he is.

• 55:08Adam Friedland?

Now you're best friends with him?

• 55:09Speaker 04

  No.

• 55:10Adam Friedland?

  You made a deal.

• 55:10Speaker 04

No, I haven't talked to him.

• 55:11Adam Friedland?

You went to the island, you made a deal? He said that they're 500% cheaper.

• 55:16Speaker 04

  A thousand.

• 55:17Adam Friedland?

But how's that, what does that mean?

• 55:19Speaker 04

  It means they're cheaper then.

• 55:20Adam Friedland?

So you get like, if a drug is nine, nine dollars, you get, well, sorry, if a drug is a hundred dollars, then you get nine hundred dollars?

• 55:28Speaker 04

  Back.

• 55:28Adam Friedland?

  Back.

• 55:29Speaker 04

That's what makes Trump or X so good.

• 55:30Adam Friedland?

That's what makes him so good.

• 55:31Speaker 04

That's why all those crypto deals.

• 55:33Adam Friedland?

That's the art of the deal.

• 55:34Speaker 04

The art of the deal, right? You make all the money on crypto and then you give it back when you sell people drugs.

• 55:40Adam Friedland?

From the Qatar or something, it's all white trash these days.

• 55:42Speaker 04

  It's Qatar.

• 55:44Adam Friedland?

Qatar. The president shouldn't be making money off of being the president, right? Isn't that, isn't there a rule somewhere?

• 55:50Speaker 04

As long as the big guy gets 10%, right? I mean, it's just crazy, you know?

• 55:54Adam Friedland?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 55:54Speaker 04

That they would fuck with Biden, who maybe did, maybe didn't, and then make all this money from crypto and everything else.

• 56:01Adam Friedland?

Yeah, uh, would you see yourself getting involved in the politics?

• 56:05Speaker 04

No, no, I don't have the temperament for it.

• 56:07Adam Friedland?

  You don't have the temperament?

• 56:08Speaker 04

  Uh-uh.

• 56:09Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah. What if Kevin was running?

• 56:11Speaker 04

  Kevin did run in Canada.

• 56:13Adam Friedland?

  In Canada, I know.

• 56:13Speaker 04

Yeah, he did run in Canada.

• 56:15Adam Friedland?

And he ran on the, on the child.

• 56:17Speaker 04

They ran about the door, yeah.

• 56:18Adam Friedland?

  Child hate party.

• 56:21Adam Friedland?

Uh, I want to just like, real quick, like, uh, I know we have like five minutes, but like, um, I want to get to like the, this year in the NBA, there've been two major kind of stories break.

• 56:32Speaker 04

  Uh huh.

• 56:33Adam Friedland?

There's been the ballmer story, then the gambling story.

• 56:35Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 56:36Adam Friedland?

I think gambling does kind of like, naturally, it was something that Stern was kind of keeping away from the league.

• 56:44Adam Friedland?

I guess, first question is like, does a David Stern NBA, do, do, do these scandals break like they have?

• 56:51Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 56:51Adam Friedland?

In a, in a Stern administration?

• 56:53Speaker 04

Yeah, things, shit changes around you no matter who you are, really. So, yeah, I don't think he could have stopped it. And I love David to death, you know?

• 57:00Adam Friedland?

Yeah. You had longstanding rivalry with the refs, right? And like, it, it is understood that like, when Donahue, Donahue was going to turn state's witness and then go back in, and then it was leaked to the Post that Donahue was working, was with the mafia and then it kind of prohibited him from wearing a wire, you know, with the rest of the refs. Like, can you tell us like a little bit about like, you know, Stern kind of, it seems like nipped that in the bud before.

• 57:26Speaker 04

  Yeah, he did, right?

• 57:26Adam Friedland?

Yeah. It seems like David Silver knew where the bodies were buried.

• 57:30Speaker 04

  Oh, for sure.

• 57:31Adam Friedland?

And Adam Silver is more like a company man.

• 57:33Speaker 04

No, no, they're both the same. They're both very, very smart.

• 57:35Adam Friedland?

  They're murderers.

• 57:36Speaker 04

Nah, they're both, um, but, you know. They make more, the more the league thrives, the more they get paid. But I think both of them, David and Adam, really, truly want to see the NBA succeed. And as much as they try to protect it, it's just, you're dealing with twenty, you know, four hundred fifty, four hundred eighty-five, you know, twenty, eighteen to twenty-five, or eighteen to forty-year-olds, right? You just get that many guys together, things are going to fuck up somewhere.

• 58:07Adam Friedland?

Are the refs like, just, is it bullshit?

• 58:10Speaker 04

I think the refs try their hardest. I never had a problem with the refs, per se.

• 58:14Adam Friedland?

Who's the biggest dickhead? Who's your worst?

• 58:16Speaker 04

The dickheads are the ones that man, that are the management of the refs.

• 58:19Adam Friedland?

  What about Scott?

• 58:20Speaker 04

  Scott Foster?

• 58:21Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 58:21Speaker 04

I got along with Scott Foster, right? I would give him shit, you know, um, and he would yell at me back or whatever, but I never really had a problem.

• 58:29Adam Friedland?

  He hates Chris Paul, right?

• 58:30Speaker 04

Yeah, he definitely hates, he's got a lot of guys.

• 58:31Adam Friedland?

We all do, we all do.

• 58:33Speaker 04

  Yeah, right?

• 58:33Adam Friedland?

  Fuck, man.

• 58:34Speaker 04

But the problem was always the people who managed them. They were the idiots. They had no clue what they were doing. They still don't know what they're doing.

• 58:38Adam Friedland?

  Heshi Teshu was.

• 58:39Speaker 04

  Heshi Teshu knows.

• 58:40Adam Friedland?

Um, so like, I, I watched your podcast with Pablo, I guess we'll close on this because we have two minutes now.

• 58:47Speaker 04

We can go a little bit later, that's fine.

• 58:48Adam Friedland?

Okay, amazing, he's having the best time ever!

• 58:52Adam Friedland?

It was plausible that, it's like, Steve Ballmer is successful and as he is, it's kind of stupid to write a check for ten bucks to a company and then they write a check for ten bucks to Kawhi Leonard, right? Like, like, drug dealers are better at, at like,

• 59:05Speaker 04

  Much better.

• 59:06Adam Friedland?

Kind of washing money than that.

• 59:07Speaker 04

  Right, right, right.

• 59:08Adam Friedland?

But like, there is an aspect of it, is like, if it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck, or whatever the,

• 59:14Speaker 04

Yeah, but if you know the NBA, see, that's what I would tell Pablo, right? If you, if you've been through all the shit and how it works with agents.

• 59:21Adam Friedland?

Glenn Taylor, of course, yeah, yeah.

• 59:22Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah, yeah, with Joe Smith, yeah. But, um, it's just.

• 59:27Speaker 04

It didn't make any sense to me, that's all.

• 59:29Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 59:30Speaker 04

And I've been in situations where I've invested in companies that turned out to be scams and I didn't know it. So I got that part.

• 59:36Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 59:37Speaker 04

And I've been in situations where.

• 59:38Adam Friedland?

I read somewhere you lost $590 million on Shark Tank. Is that true?

• 59:43Speaker 04

  No.

• 59:44Adam Friedland?

  Correctible.

• 59:45Speaker 04

  No.

• 59:45Adam Friedland?

Yeah, that's what I read. The Wall Street Journal.

• 59:48Speaker 04

Yo, Beepbox Beverages though, just my Shark Tank company bought a third of it for a million dollars. Just sold the Budweiser for 600 motherfucking million dollars.

• 59:56Adam Friedland?

Let's give it up for that. Beepbox Beverages.

• 59:58Speaker 04

  Beepbox guys are good.

• 59:59Adam Friedland?

Sounds like a thing that an adult drinks, not a child after a long day at school.

• 1:00:07Adam Friedland?

Wait, can I ask you about, so, so, let's go back to the Ballmer thing. Like, I guess the league had to wait for All-Star to investigate it, right?

• 1:00:14Speaker 04

No, I'm sure they're investigating it now and have been. And it says something that it wasn't obvious because they haven't done anything yet. And, and even with Pablo, when he came out with new stuff, right? I mean, even he'll tell you there were no smoking guns. There was just, you know, you could, like you said, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck.

• 1:00:31Adam Friedland?

I mean, he never did, he never did one endorsement, anything.

• 1:00:35Speaker 04

But they tried to use him for that stuff, right? But on the flip side, they never paid out the full contract that they promised him.

• 1:00:41Adam Friedland?

Yeah, but like, he got paid, like, the next highest endorsement was like $25.

• 1:00:46Speaker 04

  At least Kawhi Leonard.

• 1:00:48Adam Friedland?

Yeah, he's the least charismatic NBA superstar.

• 1:00:50Speaker 04

  No, he's so understated.

• 1:00:55Speaker 04

  I think he's hysterical.

• 1:00:57Adam Friedland?

Have you seen that clip of him talking about SpongeBob?

• 1:00:59Speaker 04

  No, I have not.

• 1:01:00Adam Friedland?

Oh my God, you gotta see this, dude. Who's your biggest miss? Like, who, who did you miss on? Like, what player do you wish you got?

• 1:01:06Speaker 04

Oh, there's so many of them. Like, Tyrese Maxey was a big miss for us recently.

• 1:01:14Speaker 04

You know, Greek Freak was probably the biggest.

• 1:01:17Adam Friedland?

  Ooh, Sabros?

• 1:01:18Speaker 04

  Uh, Sabros, yeah.

• 1:01:19Adam Friedland?

  You know?

• 1:01:22Adam Friedland?

Yeah, yeah, this is funny dude, you gotta see this.

• 1:01:38Speaker 04

This guy's got entertainment chops. I don't care what anybody says. When he retires, he's the next Blake.

• 1:01:44Adam Friedland?

  He would trade Peter Griffin.

• 1:01:47Speaker 04

When he retires, he's the next Blake Griffin.

• 1:01:49Adam Friedland?

No, I mean, we know, Ant, Ant is the, Ant is gonna, he's gonna win an Academy Award.

• 1:01:55Speaker 04

Ant was talking so much shit to me, I love Ant.

• 1:01:58Adam Friedland?

Did you see he was talking shit to Obama?

• 1:02:00Speaker 04

Yeah, I know, which is great.

• 1:02:01Adam Friedland?

The president. He's like, I would kill you. He's one on one, I would fucking snatch your soul.

• 1:02:08Speaker 04

  That's what he said, yeah.

• 1:02:10Adam Friedland?

Was there ever a call for an investigation after the Luka trade? Like, did anyone?

• 1:02:14Speaker 04

I don't know, cuz I was, I was out of it. I wasn't the governor by then, yeah.

• 1:02:17Adam Friedland?

  Very convenient, very convenient.

• 1:02:18Speaker 04

  Very convenient, yeah.

• 1:02:20Adam Friedland?

  Do you miss it?

• 1:02:22Speaker 04

Yeah, sometimes I do. When, when we do stupid shit like the Luka trade.

• 1:02:24Adam Friedland?

You gotta get the fucking tea back from Israel, dude. They're like, come on, bro.

• 1:02:29Speaker 04

I miss it because I think the fans have gotten let down, and I think because I kinda let them down, so that's, that's what bothers me most.

• 1:02:37Adam Friedland?

I mean, like, I was a little suspicious when they got AD, I love AD, but Chris Middleton, finally, they've made it right. They got someone better.

• 1:02:47Speaker 04

You know what? Sometimes you gotta go full circle.

• 1:02:49Adam Friedland?

  Jesus Christ, man.

• 1:02:51Speaker 04

  I love Chris too.

• 1:02:52Adam Friedland?

That was 23 years of your fucking work?

• 1:02:54Speaker 04

Yeah. Sometimes it's time to move on.

• 1:02:56Adam Friedland?

And then somebody just fucking fucked it up immediately?

• 1:02:59Speaker 04

But, you know, it was, as much as I loved it, and as much as I still love the Mavs, always be a Mavs fan, sometimes there's bigger things to do.

• 1:03:09Adam Friedland?

So you don't care about the Mavs?

• 1:03:10Speaker 04

  No, I love the Mavs.

• 1:03:11Adam Friedland?

You don't care about the city of Dallas? You just like the big ladies, that's it?

• 1:03:13Speaker 04

  Big ladies.

• 1:03:14Adam Friedland?

What is, okay, I'm gonna ask you about a quiz on what, what these companies do. What's Kle- Kleema?

• 1:03:19Speaker 04

Kle- Kleema, oh, that's an old crypto thing.

• 1:03:23Adam Friedland?

  Yeah? What do they do?

• 1:03:26Speaker 04

  They do, um...

• 1:03:29Speaker 04

They do the same thing as aspiration does.

• 1:03:34Speaker 04

They do carbon credits. For real, they do carbon credits.

• 1:03:37Adam Friedland?

  What is Yendo?

• 1:03:38Speaker 04

Yendo lets you borrow money against a car.

• 1:03:42Adam Friedland?

  The yen?

• 1:03:42Speaker 04

  Against a car.

• 1:03:43Adam Friedland?

  Against a car.

• 1:03:44Speaker 04

So like if you have no credit and you've got like $2,000 in equity and a beater that you've had and you need $500 to pay the rent, we'll loan you, they'll loan you the money on it.

• 1:03:53Adam Friedland?

  On your payday, perhaps?

• 1:03:54Speaker 04

  Maybe, or whenever it is.

• 1:03:57Adam Friedland?

  What's Mula?

• 1:03:59Speaker 04

Mula kicks, so that's women's basketball sneakers. They're badass basketball sneakers, yeah. Mula kicks.com. Check them out. Mula kicks for girls basketball.

• 1:04:07Adam Friedland?

  What's foam party hats?

• 1:04:09Speaker 04

Oh, they just got sold. They just made some bank, yeah, yeah.

• 1:04:12Adam Friedland?

Do you ever forget that you have a investment in something?

• 1:04:14Speaker 04

Oh yeah, because if you go to markcuban.com, I list them all. And so I'm like, is this one of my companies? I sent an email today to somebody, like, is this one of ours? Are we still in this thing? So like, there's some, like, what was that one company?

• 1:04:25Adam Friedland?

One of your companies is a swimming pool in a truck?

• 1:04:29Speaker 04

No, that guy, I did it because he was in the air force flying jets. And so I thought it was a fun idea and I liked the idea of being in a truck, right? Drinking a couple beers in my swimming pool in my truck bed. But that company kind of got put on hold. And we're looking at having one of the guys who worked for us, his brother, take it over.

• 1:04:49Adam Friedland?

There is like a souring attitude nationally. Like, it was always kind of like a, like a, like a lefty commie thing to be like the corporations. But like, I think post-COVID, like now people on the right are like, fuck the corporations, right?

• 1:05:04Speaker 04

  Everybody's fucked the corporations.

• 1:05:05Adam Friedland?

There's a souring attitude today nationally. And you think, like, does, is that felt amongst, you know, people that are in the business world? Like, is that like?

• 1:05:17Speaker 04

  Yeah, if you're smart.

• 1:05:18Adam Friedland?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:18Speaker 04

Right? Because you, you're starting to see people rebel against the disparity in wealth, the wealth gap, right? And if people are, you know, the worst thing possible for business is when people are rioting or, you know, civil disobedience, whatever it may be, to keep people from going into your store or doing business with you. People pay attention now. They didn't necessarily pay attention before. But, you know, if you're not, if you're not, if you don't show some compassion as a capitalist. It's gonna backfire on you.

• 1:05:46Adam Friedland?

You don't have enough money to buy crap that you don't need. Also, that's probably bad.

• 1:05:51Speaker 04

No, I mean, you gotta pay the bills.

• 1:05:52Adam Friedland?

  Foam party hats.

• 1:05:54Speaker 04

  The which?

• 1:05:55Adam Friedland?

How big are these foam party hats?

• 1:05:57Speaker 04

  They're really fucking big, right?

• 1:05:58Adam Friedland?

Was Barbara wearing one in the casket?

• 1:06:00Speaker 04

Yes, yes, it would fit. No, they were like literally these big foam hats that were pretty funny.

• 1:06:05Adam Friedland?

If I ever get to a place like in life where I need to get a group together to maybe buy like a like third division like soccer team in England, Sam, I may as well ask. It's the dream.

• 1:06:17Speaker 04

  The dream?

• 1:06:18Adam Friedland?

And then do that thing that like Van Wilder did.

• 1:06:21Speaker 04
