I started Or Not in 2013 and we make bike apparel. The best part of Shopify for me is our ability to run the business as essentially non-technical people. We're able to admin everything on the backend, frontend and sell things online easily. If Shopify were a bike accessory, I think it would actually be the bicycle. It's the thing that you do the thing on. We run the business on Shopify. Start your free trial on Shopify.com.

Hey, can you come pick me up? Yeah, what's wrong? Nothing. Are you sure? Yeah, no, I just need a ride. Ride, ride. Oh my god. So why, I just wanna have fun. Start your engines. Hi, Jeff.

• 0:59Benito Skinner?

  I'm Benito Skinner.

• 1:01Mary Beth Barone?

  I'm Mary Beth Brown.

• 1:02Benito Skinner?

  And this.

• 1:03Mary Beth Barone?

  Is.

• 1:03Benito Skinner?

  Ride.

• 1:07Benito Skinner?

Get your headphones on. That's not the first thing I'm gonna say, but we're gonna keep that in, cuz it's.

• 1:12Mary Beth Barone?

But it doesn't count as the first thing you're gonna say for season three of. I just was about to say overcompensating. Season three of Ride the Pod.

• 1:17Benito Skinner?

It's all connected. All right, are you ready? This is the first thing we're gonna say for season three. So that just happened. Monkey emoji.

• 1:27Mary Beth Barone?

  Hands over eyes monkey emoji.

• 1:29Benito Skinner?

What's that Tyler Oakley thing where he wins an award and then he goes onstage and he goes, hand over eyes monkey emoji or something? I don't know, we won't look it up. Do you know this, Jackson?

• 1:38Mary Beth Barone?

  That's a deep cut.

• 1:38Benito Skinner?

I know what it is, but I'm not the most pop culture forward guy. Well, Jackson, you revealed that to me earlier because you've only watched four episodes of overcompensating.

• 1:46Mary Beth Barone?

But he told me before you arrived that it's the first show he and his husband have ever watched that they both like. So they're savoring it.

• 1:54Benito Skinner?

Yeah, cuz. That makes me so happy. He's into all the really boring stuff, like documentaries. So like, we love this show together and then he goes, I've gotta fly out for two weeks. So now I'm like on pause. Don't do it privately. It's time. And lie, just lie?

• 2:08Mary Beth Barone?

  Don't lie, don't lie.

• 2:10Benito Skinner?

You don't have to lie, but as I said, gay guys get one lie a week. And now that's been printed in Harper's Bazaar. I was like, damn it. You really can say things and then they print it. But I fear you might see spoilers soon. And by the way, like, we're gonna have to start posting them, you guys. You gotta watch this thing. I don't know what to tell you.

• 2:26Mary Beth Barone?

It all came out at once. There was a weekend. What's your excuse?

• 2:29Benito Skinner?

Exactly. I know you've got time.

• 2:31Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 2:32Benito Skinner?

I've been so overwhelmed in such a good way. Thank you all so much for watching this show. And I can't believe some of you have watched it again. I mean, I have seen it 100 times. The thing that someone hasn't pointed out yet that I find the best moment in the entire show is when Mimi goes, "I'm partnered." And you go, "That's cool. When did that happen?" And you have that fucking wig on. I love you so much. I'm so proud of you.

• 2:56Mary Beth Barone?

  I love you too.

• 2:57Benito Skinner?

  Can you believe it?

• 2:57Mary Beth Barone?

I really, like, it's exceeded just the wildest expectations. It's been so fun and I'm so fucking proud of you. I sobbed about it, as you all saw.

• 3:05Benito Skinner?

  I can't stop.

• 3:06Mary Beth Barone?

The minute Terry hears me crying on FaceTime, he gets the camera out.

• 3:08Benito Skinner?

  He's filming.

• 3:09Mary Beth Barone?

  Kris Jenner.

• 3:10Benito Skinner?

  Sorry.

• 3:10Mary Beth Barone?

Gets the camera out. He's here to just document our love story.

• 3:13Benito Skinner?

My baby sees the shot, he's gonna get it.

• 3:16Mary Beth Barone?

Fan edits are addictive to watch.

• 3:18Benito Skinner?

So, all I do are watch fan edits. But here's the thing, I was watching so many. There were so many of what happens at the end of five, where they put "Party For You" over it. By the way, we did try to put "Party For You" on that song. It just clause made more sense.

• 3:32Mary Beth Barone?

  On the scene.

• 3:33Benito Skinner?

Just trust me. Yeah. Anything you think like, oh, they should have done that, daddy tried, I swear. So I'm watching myself in this thing that did happen to me over and over again on the internet. And I was like going to bed and I'm like, why do I feel absolutely heartbroken right now? And yeah, so it's because I couldn't stop watching fan edits.

• 3:49Mary Beth Barone?

  Of course.

• 3:50Benito Skinner?

But when I watch the one of you in the finale, I won't spoil too much today, just in case. Like, I'm gonna give you guys one more week.

• 3:58Mary Beth Barone?

One more week. But when we're, when it's episode two of season three of Ride, you have to know what's happened in the show.

• 4:03Benito Skinner?

Yeah. But when you have a conversation with Peter in the finale and they have that moment, and then it's like, boom, boom. Here's what I want to say to everyone right now. I didn't know two things that Mary Beth was doing on set. One, I didn't know she was eye rolling in every single scene. I'm a [BLEEP]. Eye rolls are back.

• 4:23Mary Beth Barone?

  They're so back.

• 4:24Benito Skinner?

  Like, that is so-

• 4:25Mary Beth Barone?

  Let women roll their eyes.

• 4:26Benito Skinner?

  Y2K.

• 4:27Mary Beth Barone?

It's one of the most powerful things a woman can do. It's the most fun a woman can have without taking her clothes off.

• 4:31Benito Skinner?

  Exactly.

• 4:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Is rolling your eyes. Yup.

• 4:34Benito Skinner?

And I didn't know Mary Beth played the character as gay. And that, I have never been set. So many, like, I can't stress enough how strange it's been to have made something for like six years and then now have people tell me what they think of it or what they think I'm trying to say. Or what's gonna happen next.

• 4:50Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 4:51Benito Skinner?

I'm a [BLEEP] with it, but I'm also like, bleep it. But I'm also like, wait, that is such a-

• 4:57Mary Beth Barone?

That was not a conscious choice.

• 4:58Benito Skinner?

  It's such an interpretation.

• 5:00Mary Beth Barone?

People, look, you make a piece of media, you put it out to the world and people see what they want to see. And I think the fan edits of like Mimi and Grace being Endgame or people shipping Carmen and Grace.

• 5:11Benito Skinner?

Endgame, okay. Carmen and Grace, like, that one I might have to see through, you know? Like, there was one tweet that was like, so I thought this bitch was a homo, but she's actually just gone.

• 5:21Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 5:22Benito Skinner?

  And I'm like, totally.

• 5:24Mary Beth Barone?

I'm just feeling great, okay? Yeah.

• 5:25Benito Skinner?

Imagine people who just watched the show and now they're listening to this. I would say maybe start from the top.

• 5:31Mary Beth Barone?

I've had a few people DM me and go, I just started listening to the podcast. I think I need to start from the beginning. And I say, it's very layered. It's very layered and I'm sure you could enjoy it with no context of anything we say, just because, you know, we're giggling and we're having fun. But it's just more enjoyable and you can sort of see the levels of it.

• 5:49Benito Skinner?

Do other pods not do callbacks? It's kind of all we do, if I had to say.

• 5:54Mary Beth Barone?

  I don't think they do.

• 5:54Benito Skinner?

Oh, just felt a full triplet from my armpits down my rib cage. I love it. Are you attracted to me?

• 6:01Mary Beth Barone?

Welcome to Dante's Inferno. I sent you, there is that one TikTok that you guys do where you open the beer can and I screenshot it and I said, I'm attracted to you here. I am. I have also straight women in my life texting me saying, why do I have a crush on Benny right now?

• 6:14Benito Skinner?

I have agents texting me saying, Mary Beth looks really good in this show.

• 6:18Mary Beth Barone?

  Whoa.

• 6:18Benito Skinner?

We'll talk about it after. We're offline later.

• 6:21Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay, we'll offline later.

• 6:22Benito Skinner?

Hey, let's just say it's poaching season.

• 6:24Mary Beth Barone?

It's poaching season and I want to say there was some concern expressed on the Reddit. We opened up the DMs on Ride the Pod to ask us anything. People are worried that we're gonna like not be relatable anymore because we're in a TV show.

• 6:36Benito Skinner?

I mean, yeah, we're totally different.

• 6:38Mary Beth Barone?

No, society still views us as a woman and a gay man, so it's like the experience will be the same.

• 6:44Benito Skinner?

No, gays on Twitter will always keep me humble.

• 6:47Mary Beth Barone?

They will always start their review with, I don't know why everyone's hating on the show so much. I loved it.

• 6:51Benito Skinner?

I'm like, you're the one hating.

• 6:53Mary Beth Barone?

Don't, you don't have to say that.

• 6:54Benito Skinner?

No, or they'll just be like, I really wanted to fucking despise this television. I'm like, why?

• 7:00Mary Beth Barone?

I wanted to fucking hate this show because I hate everything it stands for and everyone in it, but it kind of won me over.

• 7:05Benito Skinner?

  But it kind of slaps.

• 7:06Mary Beth Barone?

That's the new straight boyfriend saying, they were actually pretty funny.

• 7:09Benito Skinner?

Exactly, but then I have straight guys kind of being sweet about it. I don't know, the world's confusing, but I think we've all been told to hate ourselves and hate each other so much.

• 7:17Mary Beth Barone?

  Can't fault anyone.

• 7:18Benito Skinner?

I can't fault anyone. There's a couple of things I'd like to set the record straight on.

• 7:22Mary Beth Barone?

Please, and then we'll get into questions from our girls.

• 7:24Benito Skinner?

So we are really best friends and I think we've proved that.

• 7:27Mary Beth Barone?

  Finally.

• 7:28Benito Skinner?

Because JR, our trainer this morning goes, y'all really love each other. He said this to me and it was kind of like, he had just come to this conclusion. He's like, you guys really root for each other, huh? And I'm like, could you imagine if I didn't?

• 7:40Mary Beth Barone?

If this was all for show, my mom said.

• 7:42Benito Skinner?

  You're getting fan edits.

• 7:43Mary Beth Barone?

My mom, my mom said after seeing you hold your hand under my mouth while milk was dripping out and my crying on FaceTime, she said, I'm ready to adopt Benito whenever. And I'm ready for it. And he's ready, I said he's ready.

• 7:54Benito Skinner?

Oh God, I love that woman. I was gonna ride for her solely her this season and I think I'm going to. But I think if we do that, I just want to do it with her.

• 8:02Mary Beth Barone?

I know, which we'd have to coordinate schedules. She's very busy.

• 8:05Benito Skinner?

You know, we couldn't book Terry for this.

• 8:06Mary Beth Barone?

  We could not.

• 8:07Benito Skinner?

  We tried.

• 8:08Mary Beth Barone?

We tried in several different cities as well.

• 8:10Benito Skinner?

Can I say, it would have been easier to get the three Heim sisters here.

• 8:12Mary Beth Barone?

  And we still might.

• 8:13Benito Skinner?

  And we still might.

• 8:14Mary Beth Barone?

We still might do Women in Music Business Month.

• 8:16Benito Skinner?

On the other thing. That's my impression of the Vulture article asking what year.

• 8:24Mary Beth Barone?

Can we finally talk about it?

• 8:26Benito Skinner?

We have to talk about this. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm obsessed. I want to give this person a hug. Here's my answer, because I have been asked this now on the street and in line at Shake Shack at JFK. So obviously, the show is heavily inspired by early to mid 2010s, of course.

• 8:44Mary Beth Barone?

  When you were in college.

• 8:46Benito Skinner?

When I was in college. And thank you to all the gay interviewers who have reminded me that I am not currently the age of the character that I play on TV. Sorry. Which, can I just say, I love everything. I love everyone.

• 8:58Mary Beth Barone?

  Press is press.

• 8:59Benito Skinner?

I have gratitude. When I wrote the pilot, it was specifically 2016, because there were a few references, like, and then it just became kind of a nightmare to make sure every reference was in the time period. And also, it's really expensive to get old products, old cars, make sure that there's nothing in a scene that could even be like slightly a year after, because, you know, Reddit would kill us.

• 9:23Mary Beth Barone?

  Vulture would.

• 9:24Benito Skinner?

Say it with me. One, two, three. Kill us. And so, these are just things we thought about. And also, we thought if we made it too intensely, like, it's just this year, that maybe people in college right now wouldn't want to watch, and people who had graduated 20, 30 years ago would have been like, I can't access this.

• 9:39Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 9:40Benito Skinner?

I don't know what they're talking about. We wanted it to feel like kind of a nostalgic bubble. And that's kind of the vibe.

• 9:45Mary Beth Barone?

  Anywhere USA, anytime.

• 9:47Benito Skinner?

Pre-pandemic, pre-Trump, pre-COVID. And you know what? You know what year it is. Come on. Just give me... Hey, can I just say, just give me a kiss?

• 9:55Mary Beth Barone?

  But...

• 9:55Benito Skinner?

Will you just give me a kiss? Jackson, just give me a kiss.

• 9:59Mary Beth Barone?

And here's one other thing I'll say. It's fun for us to be able to play in this, like, sort of unknown time and space, because then you can have jokes about Ashley Simpson, but you can also have jokes about Alison Romans' clams.

• 10:09Benito Skinner?

  Exactly.

• 10:10Mary Beth Barone?

And it's like, can I just say this? And I will say this directly to camera. Has anything ever mattered less? Could anything matter less than when the year is set? Is that really detracting from your enjoyment of the comedy?

• 10:20Benito Skinner?

  I have an answer.

• 10:20Mary Beth Barone?

  Yes, you in the front.

• 10:21Benito Skinner?

Our ages. I don't think anything could matter less. Here's the thing. On this note, I just want to clarify this. I love this platform.

• 10:27Mary Beth Barone?

Well, that's the thing, because... Because I feel like most people that create a TV show don't also have a podcast where they could respond directly to what's being said in the discourse. But I think it's good that we're talking about it because again, with the whole like turn your ops into opportunities. I'm like, why do we have to ignore the fact that these reviews are out there? Like, I want to talk about it.

• 10:43Benito Skinner?

Me too. And I'm also like, I'm, I'm listening, I'm hearing you. And also in a perfect world, if I could just make like a period piece and it's like, you have a no budget, no like, everyone is like all hands on deck, we're doing it. Of course, that'd be amazing, but I think that, yeah, I didn't want to limit audiences and I also like, productions are really difficult and a collaborative process.

• 11:02Mary Beth Barone?

  Very collaborative.

• 11:03Benito Skinner?

These are all conversations, like just to be clear.

• 11:06Mary Beth Barone?

Of course. A lot of thought has been put into every single detail about the show.

• 11:09Benito Skinner?

I think we join a long line of American classics where the actors are playing characters that are not their age. Okay, Glee, The O C.

• 11:19Mary Beth Barone?

  American Pie.

• 11:19Benito Skinner?

  Gossip Girl.

• 11:21Mary Beth Barone?

  Grease.

• 11:23Benito Skinner?

  Euphoria.

• 11:23Mary Beth Barone?

  We can go on.

• 11:24Benito Skinner?

Outer Banks. Like, I just, I get what you're saying, but at the same time, I think I wanted it to live in this Y2K nostalgic, sweaty, nasty, American fantasy, but then we make it gay and actually like write women who have storylines and have brains and have sexual autonomy and sexualize themselves and all the characters sexualize themselves. And I think all of us having space from that time in our life allows both audiences and us to be more comfortable.

• 11:56Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 11:56Benito Skinner?

  Seeing this on screen.

• 11:58Mary Beth Barone?

I do think the discourse, I've seen a slight shift in that it's like people being like, I wouldn't want younger actors to play these parts and they wouldn't be able to nail the like millennial cringe of that time period.

• 12:08Benito Skinner?

I was not ready to make fun of myself in this way when I was even 25 when I wrote it.

• 12:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 12:13Benito Skinner?

I think I still would have been like, I didn't really do that. And now I'm like, no, I did. This is how I spoke.

• 12:18Mary Beth Barone?

And let's go for it. Well, Vicky saw a comment in response to someone saying we look too old and the person goes, you know, the zombies in The Last of Us aren't real, right? You know those aren't real zombies.

• 12:28Benito Skinner?

And I can't stress enough, like, if you can't suspend disbelief, like, go watch The Housewives or something, like, there's so much on TV.

• 12:34Mary Beth Barone?

You can watch zombies, but you can't watch people in their 30s play college kids. I don't know, figure your shit out. Don't contemplate that bullshit.

• 12:40Benito Skinner?

Can't we just have a little fun? And yet I say again, give me a kiss.

• 12:43Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, please. First, no, first find something in your house to stick up your ass.

• 12:46Benito Skinner?

  Well, of course.

• 12:47Mary Beth Barone?

And then give me a kiss.

• 12:48Benito Skinner?

And I just, I literally, it took two seconds, I see, I see three things.

• 12:51Mary Beth Barone?

  Three to 10 things.

• 12:52Benito Skinner?

  Benny, season two.

• 12:53Mary Beth Barone?

  Benny, what's he looking for?

• 12:55Benito Skinner?

Okay, so the song on everyone's lips. Can we talk about the Black Parade? Can I talk about that day really quick?

• 13:04Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 13:05Benito Skinner?

And then, wait, have they asked, we haven't answered any questions.

• 13:07Mary Beth Barone?

We might, we're gonna have to do that next episode.

• 13:09Benito Skinner?

  Okay, we're gonna, yeah.

• 13:10Mary Beth Barone?

  That's fine.

• 13:10Benito Skinner?

Yeah. I have never been so proud of someone in my life. Mary Beth did ask for vocal lessons and we said no.

• 13:18Mary Beth Barone?

They said, we want it to be bad. We like how you did in the audition. I go, thanks. Perfect.

• 13:24Benito Skinner?

I didn't want you to be good.

• 13:25Mary Beth Barone?

  No.

• 13:25Benito Skinner?

It's not Grace's, like, audition to be on Pitch Better Have My Money.

• 13:29Mary Beth Barone?

No, well, it's so funny because someone actually in the AMA said this. I want to find it. They go, MB, how hard was it to sing on camera? I was so proud of you, but I know you didn't want to do that.

• 13:42Benito Skinner?

It's really beautiful. Desiree, the director, we love you, girl. That day, I remember she came over to me and I wasn't in any scenes that day. It was literally the one day I didn't have scenes. Which was so, I was so sick, but it was like, something cosmically, like, I didn't make the schedule. So I, I really was like, oh, this feels right. And I show up to set and then I'm talking with Desiree and we're about to the scene and then she was like, it was actually this very special moment where she came over and she's like, that's your best friend. You should just go talk to her. Oh, goosebumps.

• 14:09Mary Beth Barone?

  No, I know.

• 14:11Benito Skinner?

And I just got to go crazy and shout things out to you and it was so fun.

• 14:16Mary Beth Barone?

It was so fun. It was terrifying. Like, it was toward the end of the shoot. So I did feel like I was sort of like, you know, anticipating it the entire time. And I was really nervous that I wasn't gonna be able to deliver on it. Everyone wanted it to be this, like, cathartic moment for the character. But having you there was just all I needed. And even though they had the wrong track and I had to sing the song with AirPods in and black tape and all of the actors in the room were hearing silence and me singing.

• 14:43Benito Skinner?

Wally's face, I mean, that is-

• 14:45Mary Beth Barone?

  That was a genuine reaction.

• 14:46Benito Skinner?

That's just Wally. She could not believe it. She was looking over at me like, oh my-

• 14:50Mary Beth Barone?

  You know what's crazy?

• 14:51Benito Skinner?

This bitch is going feral right now.

• 14:53Mary Beth Barone?

That day, we shot a scene that got cut at the blow dry bar and I was like crying about some personal stuff. I had a really tough like start to that day. And so then to get to go on stage and just like leave it, and it was so hot too, like me taking off my turtleneck. It was damp. I did throw it into the crowd. That was a real response to the temperature. It's the only time I've ever been warm. I'm cold right now, for what it's worth.

• 15:16Benito Skinner?

To be cold right now. If I showed you-

• 15:20Mary Beth Barone?

But thank you for everyone. I mean, I still can't watch the scene with sound yet. I'm too scared.

• 15:25Benito Skinner?

  Are you serious?

• 15:25Mary Beth Barone?

But one day I will. I'm scared.

• 15:28Benito Skinner?

It's just like, it's perfect. It's exactly what I wanted. Like, I've never had more fun writing a scene and I was doing my like steps on a treadmill. You know, that's how I think. And I just kind of do my little, oof. Doing steps on a treadmill without an Apple Watch? That's amore.

• 15:42Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, unheard of.

• 15:43Benito Skinner?

So I was doing my steps and that song came on shuffle because I just listened to like songs from that era. And I've never known something so quick that that was what you were gonna do.

• 15:53Mary Beth Barone?

  You had the vision.

• 15:54Benito Skinner?

Because the episode was initially gonna be Adele, hello. And it was gonna be like, maybe I do karaoke, but then, once it locked in, I was like, oh no, I'm in a bar fight. And someone posted us at the Thanksgiving table and they go, definition?

• 16:09Mary Beth Barone?

  Gay son, thought daughter.

• 16:10Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 16:11Mary Beth Barone?

And thank you for saying that.

• 16:12Benito Skinner?

  Thought daughter, actually.

• 16:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 16:14Benito Skinner?

  Lesbian icon.

• 16:14Mary Beth Barone?

Lesbian icon. LGBTQ plus community member.

• 16:18Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 16:19Mary Beth Barone?

Should we get into what we ride for? I mean, we're gonna talk about the show a lot in this season of Ride and it's just fun and we hope you enjoy it. And you know what? Also, sometimes, like, I think maybe some baronies would have watched the show and been like, not for me. And that's fine.

• 16:33Benito Skinner?

I'm so proud of it. And this sounds so fake, but I got a few messages from the gay people I needed it to hit. And I think not even just gay people, but people who feel so heartbroken and sad and lonely. And I think we did it, kid. And I feel really grateful and I feel very privileged to have done that and to get to do it with my-

• 16:58Speaker 05

  Bestie, my bestie Lamore.

• 17:01Mary Beth Barone?

  Overcompensating Spenny Drew.

• 17:03Speaker 05

  So, that just happened.

• 17:06Benito Skinner?

That was a joke. Okay, so the "that just happened" Riley text was in, was, we did in post.

• 17:11Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 17:11Benito Skinner?

And it was a surprise for Mary Beth.

• 17:13Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, I had not seen it. But the mocktails line was huge.

• 17:16Benito Skinner?

All we said that day was, "You just read a text that was really brutal."

• 17:19Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, it's cringe. And I go, "I think I got this."

• 17:22Benito Skinner?

  Yeah, you go.

• 17:23Mary Beth Barone?

"I have some life experience to draw from."

• 17:25Benito Skinner?

  Easy.

• 17:25Mary Beth Barone?

And I think we should do, like, at some point, we should just go through, like, all the episodes and say, because my high school friends called me because they were all away this past weekend. And they, we were going through, like, all the stuff that they loved, which was truly, like, every detail about the show. And so many of the details just, like, have a story. And so it would be fun one day to do, like, an oral history of season one.

• 17:44Benito Skinner?

Maybe on this one, yeah. I think we've already talked about this, but when I had just filmed the scene with cigars with Wally outside, on campus at University of Toronto, "We love you, we miss you."

• 17:54Speaker 05

Please let us shoot during the year. This is a PSA.

• 17:57Benito Skinner?

And I go over to take a break and eat my apple with peanut butter. And Lorna, we love you, makeup department, legend, icon.

• 18:05Mary Beth Barone?

  Now we're talking about this.

• 18:06Benito Skinner?

She starts filming me and I'm like, "What's going on?" And she goes, "I'm filming you."

• 18:10Mary Beth Barone?

  I'm filming you.

• 18:11Benito Skinner?

Literally, the show is so, "I'm filming you." And I'm like, "What's going on?" And you pop up and you go, "I need to speak to the gay man in charge." You looked so much like Alice, Alice Khan.

• 18:22Mary Beth Barone?

Everything I was resistant to that you pushed me to do ended up being, like, my best moments.

• 18:28Benito Skinner?

On my gravestone, it will say, "Spent his life trying to show the world Mary Beth Perron's range." I swear to God, it is my last, that is, I've done it.

• 18:39Mary Beth Barone?

He died doing what he loved.

• 18:40Benito Skinner?

  Earth.

• 18:40Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 18:41Benito Skinner?

"I knew my dad would come back." That's me. "I knew Mary Beth Perron would show the world she has range."

• 18:48Mary Beth Barone?

No, I've been underestimated in every job I've ever had, except by you. And there could be 100 gay guys in a room and 99 of them don't believe in you. All you need is one to believe in you, and that's Spino.

• 18:57Benito Skinner?

You've got two here today with me and Jackson.

• 18:59Mary Beth Barone?

Because I'm the luckiest woman in the world.

• 19:01Speaker 05

  Okay, what do you?

• 19:01Benito Skinner?

  You're right for a kid.

• 19:02Mary Beth Barone?

This week I'm writing for stating the obvious.

• 19:05Benito Skinner?

Oh, and I'm writing for the Fifty Shades.

• 19:08Mary Beth Barone?

  Soundtracks.

• 19:12Mary Beth Barone?

Thank you, Squarespace. We have a new advertiser, ladies. Baronies on staff at our newest advertiser convinced their bosses to let them advertise with us. So you know this one's going to be for our girls. Let us introduce you to Hill House Home. Hill House Home invented the viral nap dress. Celebs like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Anne Hathaway, and Kathy Hilton have been spotted in Hill House. And can I tell you about a girl who has Hill House Home silk pillowcases? And she sleeps like a baby every single night. Her name, none other than Mary Beth Barone. They make the cutest little dresses and tops for our girls, perfect for spring and summer. But they also make bedding, oh my God. And I'm obsessed with my sheets, my bed is my sanctuary.

• 21:42Mary Beth Barone?

So I urge you to go to their website and order some stuff. I mean, order some dresses. It's summer, we want to look cute. We want to pop on that one piece and just head out the door. And these pieces, they are truly heirloom pieces. Talk about traditional family values. This is the written copy, by the way. So this is how you know the girlies over at Hill House Home, they are appreciating the work. They're doing the homework and they are listening to the pod. They also have little kids stuff for all of our nieces and nephews, barony on board. But the thing we really love from Hill House Home are their perfect robes and pajamas. Their bathrobes are so soft, so perfect for a getting ready moment, even a get ready with me. Although if you're a man, less get ready with me is more pilots. Their PJs are made from the same cotton fabric as their baby onesies. So you can sleep like a baby.

• 22:26Mary Beth Barone?

You can also monogram them, hut hut. Imagine if you had a bathrobe that said Taika. Wow. You can get 15% off your first order of a hundred dollars or more at hillhousehome.com with code RIDE15. Again, that's code RIDE15 for 15% off your first order at hillhousehome.com.

• 24:32Benito Skinner?

  Who cares? Ride!

• 24:34Mary Beth Barone?

I feel like you should start. I want to look up the tracklist.

• 24:38Benito Skinner?

Eyes wide open and I got one thing stuck on my mind. Okay, so we've been getting a lot of beautiful feedback about the soundtracks of overcompensating. They were kind of all in script. Music was like my entry point into writing this show. I feel like the second I heard like Uffie and I was just like, oh, I remember this time. I've got it. Like, let's go. I just think like there's nothing more erotic to me than a fabulous soundtrack. And if we're going to talk about eroticism...

• 25:04Mary Beth Barone?

We're gonna have to talk about Fifty Shades.

• 25:05Benito Skinner?

We're gonna have to talk about Fifty Shades.

• 25:06Mary Beth Barone?

Three movies. We got three movies, which means we got three soundtracks. And I'm just gonna read you some of the tracks from the first one.

• 25:12Benito Skinner?

I would love you to just go through them and I'm just gonna hit you with some like immediate, maybe a cappella, but just immediate feedback in a way.

• 25:19Mary Beth Barone?

So we can't talk about Fifty Shades soundtrack without talking about "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Goulding.

• 25:24Benito Skinner?

So there's this song. What are you waiting for?

• 25:28Mary Beth Barone?

  What are you waiting for?

• 25:29Benito Skinner?

Love me like you do, la, la, love me like you do. Oh, we didn't say, oh, now you free me, because it's season three. All right, now we've got that.

• 25:37Mary Beth Barone?

Now we have it, and yeah, we have that.

• 25:39Benito Skinner?

Love me like you do. That song to me, you put that on headphones, like AirPods, and you get the alert that you've been listening to music too loud this week. And you've got to turn it down. When I see that, I go, who do you work for?

• 25:52Mary Beth Barone?

  Who's star do you want?

• 25:53Benito Skinner?

What? Oh, hey, Tim Cook. Nice try.

• 25:57Mary Beth Barone?

Tim Cook, and while we're on the subject.

• 25:59Benito Skinner?

Oh, what are you gonna say about Tim Cook?

• 26:01Mary Beth Barone?

What did you do to the camera? Why does it take five second delay on my photos? And why is it so fucking hard to turn the flash on? When I give my phone to a random gay guy to take a photo of me, who, by the way, I love, and that's my family, and he has to tap around for five fucking minutes.

• 26:15Benito Skinner?

If a gay guy can't. If a gay guy can't find flash, you've done something wrong. Steve Jobs is literally.

• 26:22Mary Beth Barone?

  Rolling over.

• 26:23Benito Skinner?

  He's rolling, he's pissed.

• 26:25Mary Beth Barone?

Why'd you do that? Why did you do that?

• 26:27Benito Skinner?

Steve Jobs is talking to Grandpa Terry right now.

• 26:28Mary Beth Barone?

Right now, they're having a word.

• 26:30Benito Skinner?

Yes, the first Fifty Shades, I have to say this, I watched it with my mom, and after she goes, that wasn't that nasty. I cranked my head almost.

• 26:37Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay, Patty.

• 26:37Benito Skinner?

180 back, I go, okay, you nasty bitch. Shit, fucking shit, dude. Yeah, and sorry, Fifty Shades is kind of the story of Sebastian. I want to show you something. Something unbelievable, so in this playroom, okay, keep reading me tracks. Because, yeah, it was kind of like Hunger Games, where the first one had like a song or two.

• 26:58Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 26:58Benito Skinner?

But then by the end, it was like, we had full originals.

• 27:00Mary Beth Barone?

  And don't call me angel.

• 27:01Benito Skinner?

  Well, call me anything but.

• 27:03Mary Beth Barone?

We have Zayn on here, we have Tuvalu, John Legend, we have The Dream. We have, my favorite song from any Fifty Shades soundtrack is Capital Letters by Hailee Steinfeld and Blood Pop.

• 27:13Benito Skinner?

  Capital Letters, Haze.

• 27:16Mary Beth Barone?

  Haze, oh, God.

• 27:17Benito Skinner?

  Sinners.

• 27:18Mary Beth Barone?

  Sinners.

• 27:18Benito Skinner?

  Hailee Steinfeld.

• 27:19Mary Beth Barone?

And please make more music, we're ready whenever you are.

• 27:21Benito Skinner?

I feel like we'll talk about Sinners season five, it's just too much right now.

• 27:25Mary Beth Barone?

There's a lot, I'm gonna add to my list.

• 27:26Benito Skinner?

God, it's fabulous. Okay, so the second one, to me, Fifty Shades Freed, it doesn't, I mean, it has capital letters, and I like, I love it so much, but I think like, they weren't quite there yet. I think it's all a build. Of course, the soundtrack's tantalizing yet again. But I don't think we've gotten into, you know, the juggernaut that is, I don't want to live forever.

• 27:47Mary Beth Barone?

  Right.

• 27:48Benito Skinner?

So this song, Taylor Swift and. Zayn, if you will, I have yet to find a better song on earth except Talking Body.

• 27:58Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, oh god.

• 27:59Benito Skinner?

  By Tubey Lou.

• 27:59Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 28:00Benito Skinner?

I do think that's the best song that's ever been made.

• 28:02Mary Beth Barone?

I wouldn't disagree with you, and we still need to make the playlist of the best songs ever made.

• 28:06Benito Skinner?

No, if we're Talking Body, you've got a perfect one, so put it on me. Swear, it won't take you long.

• 28:12Mary Beth Barone?

  If you love me right.

• 28:13Benito Skinner?

  It won't take you long.

• 28:14Mary Beth Barone?

  We'll fuck for life.

• 28:15Benito Skinner?

If you love me right, we'll fuck for life.

• 28:17Mary Beth Barone?

  On and on and on.

• 28:18Benito Skinner?

And another thing on my tombstone, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Mary Best Range, If You Love Me Right, we fuck for life. And death, Grandpa Terry. This Zayn and Taylor Swift song, there's a music video for it. It's just crazy that this was given to a film. You know what I mean?

• 28:37Mary Beth Barone?

  Absolutely.

• 28:37Benito Skinner?

  Like a real movie.

• 28:38Mary Beth Barone?

  Yep.

• 28:39Benito Skinner?

And to me, like, sometimes the soundtracks can be even bigger than the film. My favorite is when like, an incredible song is given to something and they play it in the credits.

• 28:47Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 28:48Benito Skinner?

It's like, oh, perfect. But I just, you're in the theater, you start to hear these and you're like, no, that's what I'm talking about. And Christian Grey, Lay it on her, like, let's do this.

• 28:57Mary Beth Barone?

I think music, unfortunately, because it has become so expensive in much of the media that we consume today.

• 29:03Benito Skinner?

  And don't I know it.

• 29:03Mary Beth Barone?

And you know it. It's just, it's sort of like, not prioritized, and I understand, like, as we've said, like, productions cost so much money, but, I mean, this is just huge for me. But I think it just, like, when I heard Love in This Club and Hustlers, that moment kind of changed me.

• 29:21Benito Skinner?

I can picture you in the theater.

• 29:22Mary Beth Barone?

  I was freaking out, yeah.

• 29:25Benito Skinner?

Oh, and you can picture what Christian's doing, he's putting a little blindfold over her eyes.

• 29:30Mary Beth Barone?

And he's putting a feather up her back.

• 29:31Benito Skinner?

  Oh.

• 29:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 29:32Benito Skinner?

Sticking a butt plug up her ass.

• 29:34Mary Beth Barone?

  And giving her anal beads.

• 29:37Benito Skinner?

  To her at dinner.

• 29:38Mary Beth Barone?

I love that they emailed these artists and they're like, we would love for you to write a song for the movie. We're thinking about putting it to this scene where he presents her with a beaded thong that goes inside her pussy, and then he'll take it out later with his mouth. So, hey, whatever you want to do with that inspo, just let us know.

• 29:54Benito Skinner?

And Beyonce said, I think I have the perfect thing for that. So, they email the Jonas Brothers' parents and they say, hey, we need a track.

• 30:04Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 30:05Benito Skinner?

I don't know what's happening in the scene in the movie. I haven't seen it in a while.

• 30:08Mary Beth Barone?

He's showing her his sex closet, his sex room, his sex dungeon.

• 30:11Benito Skinner?

  He's just showing her whole.

• 30:12Mary Beth Barone?

  His sex wing.

• 30:13Benito Skinner?

Yeah, he's showing her the bussy and Nick Jonas says, I've got this song with Nicki Minaj, if you want it. You know what I mean? Like it's on my hard drive.

• 30:25Benito Skinner?

  Okay. Yeah.

• 30:30Benito Skinner?

  I

• 30:33Benito Skinner?

I can't even, this song, I think I was still in the closet when this came out. So imagine how hard that was for me.

• 30:40Mary Beth Barone?

  What?

• 30:41Benito Skinner?

Yeah. Wait, no, I don't think so. Maybe I wasn't. What year did this come out?

• 30:46Mary Beth Barone?

  There's no way of knowing.

• 30:47Benito Skinner?

Yeah, sorry. Well, actually, maybe I was out.

• 30:52Mary Beth Barone?

You heard this song and you said, I have to come out. I have to come out today.

• 30:56Benito Skinner?

  Mom, Dad?

• 30:57Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 30:58Benito Skinner?

I gotta talk to you before dinner. Jackson's shirtless right now.

• 31:01Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 31:03Benito Skinner?

Jackson just snapped his thong. Okay, here we go. Ready? I'm daddy bum bum bum.

• 31:15Mary Beth Barone?

Wow, stop, because I'm gonna wanna have sex with you.

• 31:18Benito Skinner?

No, I know. Christian's pissing on her to this.

• 31:22Mary Beth Barone?

  Woo!

• 31:25Benito Skinner?

Okay, so I have to do Nicki's verse. Jackson's playing with his nipples right now.

• 31:33Mary Beth Barone?

  Woo!

• 31:36Benito Skinner?

Ra ba ba bye, ra ba ba bye. He said that he can't hit my balls, that he'd rather die.

• 31:43Benito Skinner?

Any other guy. With a alibi. Give me the money, we can the pesos. Sex me and a trip in Turks and Caicos. Keep going.

• 31:53Mary Beth Barone?

  Of course.

• 31:54Benito Skinner?

  The sleigh hose.

• 31:59Benito Skinner?

Assume the position when you see a bad one.

• 32:03Benito Skinner?

  And one.

• 32:10Benito Skinner?

And this was very current because Samsung's were blowing up in people's pockets.

• 32:13Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay.

• 32:14Benito Skinner?

  Nothing if she's not relevant.

• 32:15Mary Beth Barone?

  Topical.

• 32:16Benito Skinner?

  Topical, of course.

• 32:17Mary Beth Barone?

  Okay, well.

• 32:18Benito Skinner?

So, all I'm saying is, I want original tracks if we get to do season two.

• 32:22Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally.

• 32:23Benito Skinner?

I want, I want originals, I want, go through the hard drive, I want XCX World. You know what I really want is that Lord song I played for you on the sidewalk in Toronto.

• 32:32Mary Beth Barone?

  I know.

• 32:33Benito Skinner?

  Precious metals.

• 32:33Mary Beth Barone?

And that was when I realized, if a straight guy is showing you a video on his phone, it could be anything. If a gay guy is showing you a video on his phone, it's fucking time sensitive. Because you wouldn't do that unless it was urgent.

• 32:45Benito Skinner?

Of course not. I would never interrupt a conversation to show you a video on my phone.

• 32:48Mary Beth Barone?

No, but you had to. And in that moment, I realized how many times a straight man has done that to me and how few times a gay man has done that to me.

• 32:55Benito Skinner?

Do you remember recently when I played you that video of the woman going, "Here's another fucking lesson for you, fucking bitch."

• 33:01Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 33:01Benito Skinner?

"Here's another..." Yeah, I know, Gayle King asked me on CBS Mornings what TikTok was in my head, and that went through my head.

• 33:08Mary Beth Barone?

You said that one. What did you end up saying?

• 33:09Benito Skinner?

I said it. I couldn't help it. I had to tell her the truth. You don't lie to Gayle King.

• 33:12Mary Beth Barone?

No, you can't. You can't, because she'll know.

• 33:14Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 33:16Benito Skinner?

This episode is brought to you by NoCD. Picture this: You're going about your day when suddenly a horrifying thought flashes through your mind. Maybe it's a fear of something happening to a loved one, a disturbing or sexual image that keeps replaying in your mind, or an urge to do something you don't want to do. Your heart races, your palms sweat, and anxiety washes over you. You're mortified, and you feel fully convinced that it's true, even though you know that this isn't who you are. But still, the questions of, "Why did I think that? Am I a bad person?" start to consume you, and you feel that you have to do something, anything, to make them go away. Sound familiar, my babies? Here's the thing about those disturbing, unwanted thoughts: They're more common than you think. Even Benny Drama gets them. Overcompensating's Benny Drama.

• 34:00Benito Skinner?

In fact, almost everyone has them, but for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder, I, or OCD, they usually cause a lot of distress and feel hard to stop thinking about. • 34:57Mary Beth Barone?

Wow, I am so excited to tell you about this book, Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer. So, we all know and love Dylan Mulvaney. She is a longtime friend of the podcast.

• 35:06Benito Skinner?

I'm the king of the world!

• 35:07Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh my god.

• 35:08Benito Skinner?

Oh, sorry. You're right here doing ads. I'll see you later.

• 35:13Mary Beth Barone?

He's scaring me so much every time he does that. In this book, which I truly read in one day, it was a Friday night and I cracked it open. I thought I'm gonna read a few chapters. I actually could not put it down. Dylan pulls back the curtain of her agro lifestyle with a witty and intimate reflection of her life pre and post-transition. This book is so funny, it's heartfelt, it's earnest, it is powerfully honest, and it's an account of Dylan Mulvaney's journey through girlhood and a love letter to everyone who stands up for queer joy. I know someone who stands up for queer joy over compensating Benny Drama, an instant New York Times bestseller and this spring and summer's must-read memoir. If you're looking for a gift for someone who is a total bookworm, I would say pick

• 35:58Mary Beth Barone?

up a copy of Paper Doll and get one for yourself too, because you're gonna love it. Buy your copy of this spring and summer's must-read memoir, Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer by Dylan Mulvaney. It is available wherever books are sold. I can't say enough good things about this book. Benny and I both read it, actually, separately. I would have loved if we could read it to each other, but we weren't in the same place. So, just buy this book and read it. My god, it's a beach read. You just kick back, relax when you go on your little summer holidays and enjoy the book. And of course, if you're not following Dylan Mulvaney on social media, are you even on social media? So I want to ride for stating the obvious because I do feel like in our society stating the obvious has become sort of frowned upon, like almost it's a negative thing to just

• 36:43Mary Beth Barone?

say the thing that we're all thinking, but I actually think we need to embrace it more. And it comes into that idea of amplifying instead of adding to. So it's, it can be so simple too. Like I remember when Edward and I broke up, I was talking to someone and he just said to me, breakups can be really hard. And I thought, hell yeah.

• 37:01Benito Skinner?

And, and you know what? And say that.

• 37:03Mary Beth Barone?

Say that and don't say anymore.

• 37:05Benito Skinner?

  No.

• 37:05Mary Beth Barone?

You don't actually have to say anymore.

• 37:07Benito Skinner?

No, baby, shh, shh, shh, shh.

• 37:08Mary Beth Barone?

No, it's like, it can be so beautiful to just be having a conversation with someone and they just state the obvious. Things are really hard right now. Imagine just being at a dinner with someone and they drop that on you and you go, yes, that's what I was thinking.

• 37:21Benito Skinner?

You know who does this the most in my life?

• 37:23Mary Beth Barone?

  Who?

• 37:23Speaker 05

  You.

• 37:24Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh, wow.

• 37:25Speaker 05

  I'm serious.

• 37:25Mary Beth Barone?

I didn't even know that. I didn't even know that.

• 37:27Benito Skinner?

It's you and I would say close second is Terry because Terry will just be like, this is what this is.

• 37:30Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally.

• 37:30Benito Skinner?

And sometimes you're like, oh, I maybe didn't need to hear that one, but I appreciate it.

• 37:33Mary Beth Barone?

But unfortunately you did. You might not know you did, but you did.

• 37:37Benito Skinner?

  Like this.

• 37:37Mary Beth Barone?

  Ah!

• 37:38Benito Skinner?

But yeah, I totally agree. Also, another person who does a lot is Jer Mendoza.

• 37:42Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh.

• 37:43Benito Skinner?

My trainer, he'll just be like, you must be so overwhelmed. Go easy on yourself.

• 37:48Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 37:49Benito Skinner?

  And I went, absolutely.

• 37:50Mary Beth Barone?

You know what? Stating the obvious can really make people feel seen.

• 37:53Benito Skinner?

  I agree.

• 37:54Mary Beth Barone?

It can really make people feel seen. And I feel like even with JR, yeah, and he is a straight man, as we've said on this podcast tons of times, but I was talking to him about something and he just goes, you're so real.

• 38:05Benito Skinner?

Fuck. That's like today where he just goes, you're best friends.

• 38:09Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 38:09Benito Skinner?

  Like you're really best friends.

• 38:10Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 38:10Benito Skinner?

And I'm like, yeah, I didn't even think about it.

• 38:13Mary Beth Barone?

  No.

• 38:13Benito Skinner?

Mind you, at this time I'm, I'm pushing a sled. I'm like, can we talk about it after?

• 38:17Mary Beth Barone?

  Right. You're like, yeah.

• 38:19Benito Skinner?

There's 150 pounds on this sled right now and yeah.

• 38:21Mary Beth Barone?

  But yes, we are.

• 38:22Benito Skinner?

And yes, my ass will be even bigger in season two.

• 38:25Mary Beth Barone?

It better be. We need many more cakes than ever.

• 38:28Benito Skinner?

Yes. Oh, that's one thing I, okay, people keep asking me, what are you sad you had to cut?

• 38:33Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 38:33Benito Skinner?

And there was a scene where Adam and I talked about it before and where he's spanking me. Fun fact for that, he spanked me so hard I had a welt on my butt. We didn't know that the phone- Paddle had a wood skeleton.

• 38:44Mary Beth Barone?

  It was a rod.

• 38:45Benito Skinner?

It had a rod in it in a way.

• 38:46Mary Beth Barone?

  It was a rod.

• 38:46Benito Skinner?

And I didn't want to ruin the take because I'm a total professional.

• 38:49Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 38:49Benito Skinner?

He said, like, how hard do you want me to go? And I'm like, I mean, it should feel like you're a frat guy. Like, let's go. But in one take, we're talking, he, I don't even know how this came about. I think we were just talking about it. And he just whispers in my ear in the take, damn, Benny, you're caked up. And unfortunately, just in every iteration of it, it seemed like Ben, Peter and I would fuck.

• 39:09Mary Beth Barone?

We don't need any more queer allegations.

• 39:11Benito Skinner?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 39:11Mary Beth Barone?

For straight characters on the show.

• 39:13Benito Skinner?

There's a couple of straight characters, I'll be honest.

• 39:14Mary Beth Barone?

We just have to have some straight ones.

• 39:16Benito Skinner?

Yeah. And in that moment, he stated the obvious.

• 39:19Mary Beth Barone?

Of course. And I think when he hit you with the paddle that had wood in it that you weren't aware of, and you said, that hurt. Stating the obvious. But sometimes you just have to put the sentiment out there. And I think, yeah, it's, it's that thing of like, when I, when someone's talking to me about the show and they're like, wow, this must be so exciting and it must be just like so emotional for you. And I'm like, yeah. Or even something so simple as, your hair is so long. When people would say stuff like that to me, I'd be like, that's kind of crazy that you just said that, but it is long and maybe we should talk about it.

• 39:46Benito Skinner?

I wish I didn't feel as good as I feel when people tell me my hair grows fast, but for some reason, like, few things feel better to me than that, you know?

• 39:54Mary Beth Barone?

And it's just important to hear that stuff sometimes. So even if you think something, it goes without saying.

• 40:00Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 40:00Mary Beth Barone?

And we've talked on this podcast a lot about things that go without saying, but sometimes you need to just state the obvious. So it's really the counterpoint to it goes without saying is just stating the obvious. Like, sometimes when we're talking about a piece of media, like, you know, I could refer to, even we could say with the Zayn song, it's like, it does go without saying that I don't think you should punch your mother-in-law.

• 40:18Benito Skinner?

  No, of course.

• 40:19Mary Beth Barone?

Or have allegedly punched your mother-in-law.

• 40:21Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 40:21Mary Beth Barone?

But to state the obvious, you shouldn't punch your mother-in-law.

• 40:24Benito Skinner?

Yeah. And to state the obvious, what a banger.

• 40:26Mary Beth Barone?

  A total banger.

• 40:27Benito Skinner?

  Oh, my god.

• 40:28Mary Beth Barone?

And I even associate Pillow Talk as being on a Fifty Shades soundtrack because that's how good the song is. That's how good the song is.

• 40:35Benito Skinner?

Okay, so I was in the closet when that came out?

• 40:37Mary Beth Barone?

  Oh.

• 40:37Benito Skinner?

And I was putting headphones into that.

• 40:39Mary Beth Barone?

Sorry, sorry, sorry. I need a timeline of Benny Zama's life.

• 40:41Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 40:42Mary Beth Barone?

All the media that came out before you were out, and I need to think about how fucking tight your butthole must have been. And how much you were, talk about sweat drip down, because, wow. You had to, you were in the closet when Legally Blonde came out.

• 40:54Benito Skinner?

  No, I know.

• 40:55Mary Beth Barone?

You were in the closet when Mean Girls came out.

• 40:56Benito Skinner?

And people would go, you remind me of the bend and snap guy. And I was like, what the what?

• 40:59Mary Beth Barone?

Don't you fucking say some shit like that to me.

• 41:01Benito Skinner?

Are you fucking kidding me right now, dude? You remind me of Clay Aiken. I was like, that queer? I know you didn't just say Clay Haken. Oh, my God, I literally would listen. I was so in love with this straight man. I would put my freaking headphones in and listen to pillow talk and I'd be like, come on.

• 41:14Mary Beth Barone?

  Clam on butt.

• 41:16Benito Skinner?

Clam on butt. Sorry, I just, I had to do that just to get sweat just to another area of my body.

• 41:22Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 41:24Benito Skinner?

Nothing but pleasure, nothing but pleasure.

• 41:26Mary Beth Barone?

  I'm a pave, I'm a pleasure.

• 41:27Benito Skinner?

The exact same song is Jealous by Nick Jonas. And again, I was in the closet.

• 41:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Thousand percent.

• 41:33Benito Skinner?

I am walking down the aisle to that track.

• 41:36Mary Beth Barone?

It's crazy that when I was doing SoulCycle to Jealous, I was in the SoulCycle class on the bike. You were somewhere, when I'm in New York City at the NoHo Studio SoulCycle.

• 41:44Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 41:45Mary Beth Barone?

You were somewhere out in the world in the closet still. Breaks my heart. Breaks my heart.

• 41:51Benito Skinner?

  And your media.

• 41:52Mary Beth Barone?

Clip that. Also, I want to shout out Barone HQ, doing God's work.

• 41:57Benito Skinner?

How do I even, so I would have her move in with me and the door is open.

• 42:02Mary Beth Barone?

The door is, can we just say we would love to have you living in our house? And in many ways you do because you live in our hearts. And just huge shout out. I mean, there's certain sentiments I've been feeling lately that I actually can't put into words. Like how proud I am of you, how appreciative I am of Barone HQ, like things like that, just like feeling grateful. And so I just want to say like, nothing we could ever verbalize would communicate our gratitude. But we love you so much and we love all the Barones, all of our kids, we love them equally.

• 42:27Benito Skinner?

I also just want to talk to Barone HQ, your ability to get a Getty image.

• 42:31Mary Beth Barone?

  Without the watermark.

• 42:32Benito Skinner?

You are, you are literally better than, and I, hey, I love our publicist. That's the only difference you're gonna see this season. Occasionally, we might reference a publicist. But I could not, I saw pictures from the premiere from her before anything else. I was like.

• 42:47Mary Beth Barone?

It was before that we'd even left the venue.

• 42:49Benito Skinner?

I hadn't even done approvals. I go, I love them. Done.

• 42:51Mary Beth Barone?

But she does not choose a bad image of us. And so we just want to say, we're thinking of you. We're thinking of all of our girls. Keep telling your friends about overcompensating. Keep streaming it. You can watch as many times as you want. There's no rules about how many times you can watch it.

• 43:03Benito Skinner?

And you know what? Sometimes you can turn it off before the sad part. You know what I mean? Now that you know.

• 43:08Mary Beth Barone?

  You can do an atonement.

• 43:10Benito Skinner?

Exactly. You can do an atonement. You can do A Star is Born, where you cut after SNL. Cause it's so exciting that Ally was at SNL.

• 43:15Mary Beth Barone?

  Ladies and gentlemen, Ally.

• 43:17Benito Skinner?

Don't watch the Grammys. I'm so gonna Bradley Cooper you at the Grammys when you win a Grammy. I piss onstage. Halsey just gave you the award.

• 43:23Mary Beth Barone?

  But I welcome it.

• 43:23Benito Skinner?

  Exactly. You go, hell, yeah.

• 43:25Mary Beth Barone?

  I say, let's make a freaking deal.

• 43:27Benito Skinner?

You must have really had to pee. That's what you're gonna say.

• 43:29Mary Beth Barone?

  I say, I've been there.

• 43:31Benito Skinner?

You know what? A really good stating the obvious that I love in any of the like press things I've done is this must have been so special to do it with your best friend. It's almost not obvious because I'm just like, I can't believe that in the end, we did it, kid.

• 43:44Mary Beth Barone?

In the end, it always does.

• 43:45Benito Skinner?

We really look a lot like siblings.

• 43:46Mary Beth Barone?

In the end, it always does, and thank God.

• 43:48Benito Skinner?

I hope we get to do season two. You all will be the first to know. And there's so much to be said with our relationship. That's something that I'm really excited about. I feel that's one of the things I'm most inspired by. It's like Carmen's parents and that are just like in my head, nonstop.

• 44:02Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, again, I don't have words to express how special it's been to do this with you and just to get to even work with you. It's like, yeah, it's an honor.

• 44:09Benito Skinner?

To read the scripts and be like, she's a lesbian. I'm playing her as a lesbian.

• 44:12Mary Beth Barone?

To read the scripts and go, so that's someone that's attracted to women.

• 44:15Benito Skinner?

  So I'm, yeah.

• 44:16Mary Beth Barone?

Yeah, I think that makes perfect sense.

• 44:17Benito Skinner?

Hey, if there was any question about your sexuality, I mean, I know that like a lot of people, they hear By and they go, yeah, right, girl.

• 44:23Mary Beth Barone?

Well, how do I play a straight woman?

• 44:25Benito Skinner?

  Yeah, everyone's kind of like.

• 44:27Mary Beth Barone?

  Unbeknownst to me.

• 44:27Benito Skinner?

  Shit, she kind of spilled.

• 44:28Mary Beth Barone?

  Shit, dude.

• 44:29Benito Skinner?

Yeah. You know what you are, Mary Beth?

• 44:32Mary Beth Barone?

  Bisexual?

• 44:33Benito Skinner?

Well, yeah, but you're also my ride or die. Ride or die.

• 44:38Mary Beth Barone?

We could do a quick ride or die.

• 44:39Benito Skinner?

I know that you die for this in a way.

• 44:41Mary Beth Barone?

  Well, I ride for it.

• 44:42Benito Skinner?

  Exactly.

• 44:43Mary Beth Barone?

  And exactly.

• 44:43Benito Skinner?

So much so, you almost die for it.

• 44:44Mary Beth Barone?

I almost die for it. I ride so hard for the Fifty Shades soundtrack. Again, I think soundtracks, we need to bring them back because like, I need original songs. I need fake pop music. Best case scenario, we get fake pop music. Second best case, we get some original songs. Third best case, just give me bangers then. Fine, fine. I'll take bangers. I'll take Love in This Club.

• 45:03Benito Skinner?

  Exactly.

• 45:04Mary Beth Barone?

With J Lo on the pole.

• 45:05Benito Skinner?

It doesn't have to be a new track. I just think it's so cool. Like, and I'll probably ride later for the Hungry M soundtrack that Lord curated for Catching Fire because I think it's one of the best moments in culture, personally. Yellow Flicker Beats, I mean, I could have done that today, but it's like Fifty Shades felt like there's so much, there's such a correlation between Fifty Shades and this podcast.

• 45:22Mary Beth Barone?

It's such a deep back catalog, yeah.

• 45:22Benito Skinner?

  Of course.

• 45:23Mary Beth Barone?

  Totally, because you're so sexual.

• 45:24Benito Skinner?

Exactly. I so write for stating the obvious. It feels so good to just hear things lately. And also, I think we're all so in our heads. Sometimes it's nice to just be like, oh, whoa, someone else thought this. Great.

• 45:36Mary Beth Barone?

  Someone just acknowledged.

• 45:37Benito Skinner?

Because obvious might not be obvious, and I think that's what's powerful, kid.

• 45:40Mary Beth Barone?

I agree. So state the obvious today, put it into practice. It's like when they teach the word sporadically and clueless. Sometimes after a ride, I'm like, you should use this today. Just like, see how it feels to state the obvious. And if someone gives you shit for it and they go, no shit, Sherlock, you go, wow. I can see a lot of stuff you have to work through.

• 45:56Benito Skinner?

  Exactly.

• 45:57Mary Beth Barone?

  It's all right here.

• 45:58Benito Skinner?

And speaking of that, I would say also just put in the Fifty Shades. There's a playlist on Spotify that will of course post, or Barone HQ will beat us to it. Play it in the car. I don't care if your kids are in it. Like, I think it's, these are great tracks. Annie Lennox, like.

• 46:10Mary Beth Barone?

My friend's daughter walked in, she's like five, and she walked in on the Edward Forty-Hand scene and just stood there for 12 minutes. So she stayed through the ass-eating scene.

• 46:18Benito Skinner?

Hey, can I say, that's some good TV.

• 46:21Mary Beth Barone?

  Traditional family values.

• 46:23Benito Skinner?

  Stardom Young.

• 46:23Mary Beth Barone?

Her daughter goes, she drank so fast.

• 46:25Benito Skinner?

Oh, if anyone knew that it was monsooning during that scene and that there was a rig.

• 46:30Mary Beth Barone?

But this is why we need an oral history.

• 46:32Benito Skinner?

  We'll do an oral history.

• 46:33Mary Beth Barone?

Cause there's so much. We love you so much, all of the Barones and new listeners, old listeners. Like, you know, welcome to the family.

• 46:39Benito Skinner?

And welcome to our video podcast.

• 46:40Mary Beth Barone?

And welcome, oh my god, we do video now.

• 46:42Benito Skinner?

  Yeah.

• 46:42Mary Beth Barone?

  That's huge for season three.

• 46:43Benito Skinner?

  They just watched this.

• 46:44Mary Beth Barone?

  Yeah.

• 46:44Benito Skinner?

I hope our faces looked good the entire time.

• 46:46Mary Beth Barone?

We don't know. And we're not aware of our bodies because we're so used to not having video that we're gonna learn a lot from these first few.

• 46:52Benito Skinner?

Yeah, I think we are, and people will tell us. Yeah, I just love you, Kat. I love you, Kat. So. That just happened! Oh, my exit.

• 47:03Mary Beth Barone?

Benny, babe, eyes on the road. Benny, go!

• 47:16Benito Skinner?
