This week, Christina P sits down with horror icon Doug Bradley, the legendary actor behind Hellraiser’s Pinhead, for a conversation that’s equal parts creepy, funny, and surprisingly tender. Doug dives into the origins of Pinhead’s terrifying look, the philosophy behind horror villains, and what it’s like when strangers recognize him as the guy who tormented their nightmares. Christina presses Doug on whether BDSM aesthetics became mainstream thanks to Cenobites, and if he’s ever had to explain his career choices at awkward family dinners. Doug also shares behind-the-scenes stories of low-budget chaos, midnight makeup chair marathons, and how becoming a horror icon changed his life in ways he never saw coming. With frequent detours into absurdity Doug also proves he’s not just a master of horror—he’s got comedy chops too. This episode is a once-in-a-lifetime crossover of YMH filth and horror royalty...missing it would be a waste of good suffering. Hi, mommies. Hi, jeans. It's me, the main mommy, and Tommy Salami is still filming in Ju-Mexico. He's filming a movie. So I have a co-host with me today that I am so stoked. You guys don't even know what you're in for. Please welcome Doug Bradley today as my co-host. Yeah!

• 1:20Speaker 02

  Yeah! Hello, hello, hello.

• 1:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hi.

• 1:22Speaker 02

It's a great pleasure to be here.

• 1:24Christina Pazsitzky?

I love you. I'm so thrilled that you and your wife came to Austin just to do this. I really appreciate you.

• 1:32Speaker 02

Thank you for inviting us. And, you know, it's a pleasure to be here. And as a very wise man once said,

• 1:42Speaker 02

  "Let the conversation begin."

• 1:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes!

• 1:50Christina Pazsitzky?

I bet you didn't know Pinhead is a mommy. You do now. Let the conversation begin. Who do you think's creepier, Pinhead or Garth?

• 2:03Christina Pazsitzky?

  Who's killed more people?

• 2:05Speaker 02

Well, Pinhead, well, other than wiping out an entire nightclub full of people in Hellraiser 3.

• 2:16Speaker 02

Uh, his known kill count on on screen isn't that high, really.

• 2:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm, we'll talk about that.

• 2:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 2:25Christina Pazsitzky?

I agree, there's a, there, well, I have so much to get into.

• 2:28Speaker 02

I mean, I with with with Garth for me, it was back in the day when, because I I get asked quite often at Q and As, uh, you know, and interviews and fans generally about what music I like and what I listen to. And I always say it's easier to define myself by what I don't like and what I don't listen to. And in trying to uh make a distinction between being a huge country music fan.

• 2:58Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 2:59Speaker 02

But it was at the time that the new corporate Nashville sound was emerging. And I called it Big Hat Country. And Garth was the poster boy of Big Hat Country for me. So I used to say, you know, like Garth Brooks? No.

• 3:19Christina Pazsitzky?

  Wow.

• 3:19Speaker 02

Um, and I mean, I don't, I don't. What what's um Friends in Low Places? That's him, right?

• 3:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah, I've got friends.

• 3:31Speaker 02

But I couldn't, I couldn't, I couldn't hum it to you. And I couldn't name really any other Garth Brooks songs. And then I'm not sure of the, I'm not sure of the chronology as to as to when I got shown the fa- the Facebook clip. Um, which was so weird in so many ways, not least because he gave the impression that someone had just introduced him to the idea of Facebook and he'd never heard of it before.

• 4:02Christina Pazsitzky?

Can we, do we have it? Can we just? And then and then I'll do the opening clip. I know what you're saying. This phony, this this faked surprise.

• 4:12Speaker 02

Oh, Facebook? What a great idea. Why did nobody think of this?

• 4:16Christina Pazsitzky?

Let's watch it again, just for old times' sake. So creepy.

• 4:19Tom Segura?

  Well, I guess it's official.

• 4:20Christina Pazsitzky?

  I guess it's official.

• 4:21Tom Segura?

Now on Facebook. I really wasn't sure about this at the start. Then a friend of mine said something that just made all kinds of sense.

• 4:27Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 4:27Tom Segura?

She said, think of it more as a conversation.

• 4:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  Uh-uh.

• 4:31Tom Segura?

  I like that.

• 4:31Speaker 02

  I like that.

• 4:34Christina Pazsitzky?

I like that. I like that. Well, that's a, that's amazing. Here, this is a great segue.

• 4:40Speaker 02

  I really like that.

• 4:41Christina Pazsitzky?

Let's get into the opening clip, because I really like that, too. Let the conversation begin.

• 4:47Speaker 04

  Anybody want these old sandals?

• 4:50Speaker 04

  You can have them.

• 4:52Speaker 04

Um, if you want them. I don't want them no more. I plan on giving you some more sandals. Oh, and also they come with a bottle of Bristle too.

• 5:01Speaker 02

  Oh, well, I'm sold.

• 5:10Christina Pazsitzky?

It's so stupid. Oh, shit. Oh, shit.

• 5:26Christina Pazsitzky?

Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow.

• 5:38Christina Pazsitzky?

  Nice, long intro.

• 5:54Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hold on. Now.

• 5:56Speaker 02

  I'm disrobing, because I-

• 5:57Christina Pazsitzky?

Please, please, show us your shirt. It's so beautiful. You must.

• 6:01Speaker 02

I only wore, I only wore the overshirt. For the purposes of the reveal.

• 6:06Christina Pazsitzky?

It was such a good reveal, by the way. I had no idea. You wore a denim shirt, too, to really pay homage. Now, as you know, Doug, you're a huge fan of Sex and the City, I'm assuming.

• 6:18Speaker 02

  Oh, sure.

• 6:19Christina Pazsitzky?

Clearly a Miranda. Uh, but anyway, apparently, you know the guy that plays Mr. Big?

• 6:26Speaker 02

  No.

• 6:26Christina Pazsitzky?

  Okay.

• 6:26Speaker 02

  I, I'm-

• 6:27Christina Pazsitzky?

  He's so hot.

• 6:29Speaker 02

  Is he?

• 6:29Christina Pazsitzky?

You're gonna like him. Well, he's like super into me. Yeah, here, here it is. He found out that, like, I guess Tom isn't here. He's super cute. Okay, ready? He sent me this video. It's weird.

• 6:41Speaker 05

Okay, Christina, you have a podcast. It's called Your Mom's House. You're doing it without your husband, Tom. She's killing it with her goth style, goth music, the cure, always a great one. Sexy loves golf music, so let's keep Tom away from it for a while and see what happens. You're gonna be doing fine without him. Cheers.

• 7:06Christina Pazsitzky?

  Wow. What do you think?

• 7:08Speaker 02

Well, uh, ni- uh, nice, I suppose. I don't know, really. I'm very neutral on the subject of Mr. Big and indeed Sex and the City in general. I never watched it.

• 7:21Christina Pazsitzky?

Can I? Oh, well, you're missing out. I watch it compulsively.

• 7:27Christina Pazsitzky?

Can I just point out, this is really interesting. This is very interesting in a celebrity's home when there's a picture of the celebrity hanging in their home.

• 7:37Speaker 02

  Positioned.

• 7:38Christina Pazsitzky?

Very unique choice, hot choices. Do you have many photographs of yourself in your home?

• 7:44Speaker 02

I don't have photographs of me. There are lots of images of Pinhead around.

• 7:51Christina Pazsitzky?

Let's look at him for a minute.

• 7:52Speaker 02

I had a, I have a sort of, there's steps going down towards the utility room and basement.

• 8:02Christina Pazsitzky?

  I love this photograph.

• 8:03Speaker 02

I keep a lot of stuff on, on the walls and, and stuff that fans give me. I call that a museum. So this is, um,

• 8:14Speaker 02

this is, uh, uh, Bloodline, Hellraiser IV. So it's, uh, 1994, be, it's late night. That is only water.

• 8:26Speaker 02

Uh, we're filming. I always had a leotard underneath the jacket, so I just,

• 8:31Christina Pazsitzky?

  Really?

• 8:32Speaker 02

Just dropped it down off the shoulders.

• 8:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, that's what that is.

• 8:36Speaker 02

For a little decolleté moment, dears.

• 8:39Christina Pazsitzky?

I was gonna say, it's the Cenobites. It's very big.

• 8:44Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 8:44Christina Pazsitzky?

So you had a suit, you had a leotard under

• 8:47Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 8:48Christina Pazsitzky?

the leather, heavy. What is it, like an S and M kind of outfit? Which, by the way, I have to say, like, let me just fan your skirt up for a moment because, you know, I've been a huge fan of Hellraiser and Clive Barker, Books of Blood, all that stuff since I was a teenager. And I feel like, you know, anybody can kill people, right? Like Freddy Krueger.

• 9:08Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:09Christina Pazsitzky?

And. Jason, I'm sure you're friends with all these guys.

• 9:12Speaker 02

  I know them, yes.

• 9:13Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, you guys hang out and stuff?

• 9:15Speaker 02

Well, at conventions, I wouldn't say we sort of hang out. I made a movie with Robert.

• 9:20Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, Robert England?

• 9:21Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 9:22Christina Pazsitzky?

The, the, yeah, how is he?

• 9:24Speaker 02

Uh, Robert's wonderful. I've known Robert for a very long time. We made a movie together in, in the mid 90s called Killer Tongue.

• 9:33Christina Pazsitzky?

  Bring that up, please.

• 9:36Speaker 02

La, uh, La Lingua Afa Fina.

• 9:40Speaker 02

It, uh, there we are. We shot, we shot it in Spain. It's, uh,

• 9:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  It's awesome.

• 9:48Speaker 02

  It's one crazy movie.

• 9:51Speaker 02

But, uh, it was a lot of fun. I was playing a convict.

• 9:56Speaker 02

And the reason, uh, is Mindy Clark, uh, is in it as well. That's Mindy, um, looking very, very sexy in, in her outfit with her killer tongue retracted in her mouth. So Robert was playing the chief screw and I was

• 10:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, I see him.

• 10:14Speaker 02

I was a convict on, um, on a chain gang.

• 10:21Speaker 02

And Mindy and her boyfriend had carried out a bank heist and Mindy was pretending to be a nun. And she was hiding out in the convent, very heavily pregnant, with her collection of large poodles. And then there's a point in the movie,

• 10:38Speaker 02

um, which an asteroid appears and it, it hits Earth's atmosphere and it breaks into lots of pieces. She's sitting around a table, eating soup with her poodles who are all perched on chairs around the table. And fragments of the asteroid, uh, fly in through windows and land in the soup. And the magical properties of the asteroid turn all the poodles into drag queens.

• 11:04Christina Pazsitzky?

• 13:15Speaker 02

So we're in a kind of Priscilla in the desert kind of thing now. And that's only like the first 10 minutes.

• 13:25Christina Pazsitzky?

That's, oh, it sounds, I gotta watch this when I get home. I'm gonna have surgery tomorrow. I gotta time.

• 13:30Speaker 02

  It's completely insane.

• 13:31Christina Pazsitzky?

Completely insane. And there you are.

• 13:33Speaker 02

  Talking of completely insane.

• 13:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 13:38Christina Pazsitzky?

My point being is that I love Robert England. I love Friday the 13th. Jason, let's talk about your other slayers. Night of the Living Dead. What's the one, the Chainsaw? Texas Chainsaw? All these guys are scary as shit, right? Like, you don't want to meet any of these bros.

• 13:57Christina Pazsitzky?

Now, what I love about Pinhead and Hellraiser is that you brought a humanity to this, you know, this really scary character, which is kind of cool because we got to see that at one point, Pinhead was just a person. And it's all these great themes about desire and greed and lust and these wonderful human themes, and I find that to be so relatable. Anyway, I mean, it's a testament to you bringing some kind of

• 14:32Christina Pazsitzky?

human element to this, because this is fucking terrifying. There you are with Ringo Starr. Jesus Christ.

• 14:38Speaker 02

That's, uh, you keep asking me questions and then putting images up. But, so, that's, um, I was doing publicity for the release of Hellraiser 3. So this, I think, is 1992, maybe, 92 or 93. And, um, the Miramax, in their infinite wisdom, had decided it would be a very cool idea for me to do lots of publicity stuff in makeup and costume, which I didn't think was such a great idea, but they agreed to pay me to do them, at which point it seemed like a better idea.

• 15:17Christina Pazsitzky?

  Of course.

• 15:18Speaker 02

So this is the MTV Video Awards.

• 15:21Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 15:22Speaker 02

When they used to film with David Spade, the filmed inserts of celebrities who couldn't get in because they weren't on the list.

• 15:33Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 15:34Speaker 02

And they pre-film those and then screen them during the awards ceremony. And, uh, that year...

• 15:45Speaker 02

  It was Roseanne.

• 15:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 15:47Speaker 02

Andrew Dice Clay, Ringo and Pinhead.

• 15:53Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, cool.

• 15:54Speaker 02

Couldn't get in because their names weren't on the list. And I'd, I'd, I'd had my makeup and costume applied in my hotel room.

• 16:03Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, my God.

• 16:04Speaker 02

Which was a trip too, because on the way down from the hotel room to the lobby, we're in, in the elevator going down and it stopped. And the doors opened. And here's a businessman with, you know, with his, his suit and his briefcase. And he stared at me and I stared back at him and then he just went, okay.

• 16:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  This is weird shit.

• 16:30Speaker 02

And took a step back and the elevator doors closed and.

• 16:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  Amazing.

• 16:35Speaker 02

Down we went. So I arrived in the limo. Uh, you know, it's quite an exciting thing to be doing and get out. The PR girl comes over and says, you know, so delighted to have you here today. Um, was at UCLA. We're just going to bring you into the entrance to the auditorium. Eric Clapton and Elton John are rehearsing at the moment. Um, oh, and Ringo's here.

• 17:03Speaker 02

So, you know, I, I was seven, I think, when the world stopped turning for me for a moment when I first heard Love Me Do.

• 17:14Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 17:15Speaker 02

On the radio in nineteen sixty-two. Uh, and huge Beatles fan for all of my life from that moment forward. So my legs have gone to jelly a bit. And, uh, came around the corner into the entrance to the arena and, and Ringo with this extraordinary turban thing, um, going on has got his back to me. And, uh, he's talking to a couple of guys who, um,

• 17:44Speaker 02

see me and then they start, you know, to Ringo.

• 17:50Speaker 02

And he turned around and it's, it's, it's one of the proudest moments of my life. He turned around, he looked at me and he said, hey, it's Pinhead.

• 18:04Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hey. Oh, that's so cool.

• 18:07Speaker 02

And and that picture was on uh.

• 18:12Speaker 02

Was on the front of the Hollywood Reporter the next day.

• 18:14Christina Pazsitzky?

  Amazing.

• 18:15Speaker 02

It was great. And I've said often to fans, you know, who say to me, who apologize because they're talking gibberish or, you know. I my brain and my tongue, Homer Simpson style, completely disconnected.

• 18:31Christina Pazsitzky?

  Of course.

• 18:32Speaker 02

I I I just talked gibberish to him.

• 18:35Christina Pazsitzky?

  Of course.

• 18:36Speaker 02

  I'm from Liverpool too.

• 18:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  I do that too.

• 18:40Speaker 02

I believe I actually did say that while I'm thinking, what are you doing?

• 18:46Christina Pazsitzky?

Did you guys talk about Liverpool?

• 18:48Speaker 02

Um, I I honestly, the rest is a blur.

• 18:51Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah, you just associate.

• 18:53Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 18:53Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 18:55Speaker 02

I think we did, but he's not he. A man of few words.

• 19:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 19:00Speaker 02

  You know.

• 19:00Christina Pazsitzky?

He's got to be used to being seen as like an absolute god. It's arguably the most famous people on the planet are the Beatles.

• 19:08Speaker 02

Right. No, I mean, I was I was kind of completely.

• 19:12Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, I'd be I'd puke on myself. Can't do it. If I ever met Peter Murphy, I'd just puke all over myself or like Robert Smith. That's those are my Beatles. You know what I mean?

• 19:20Speaker 02

  Right. Yeah.

• 19:21Christina Pazsitzky?

So what is it like to be comedians? We're lucky in that when we meet fans, they're pretty happy to see us.

• 19:30Christina Pazsitzky?

I think people. You know what I mean? Like, you're walking around in this wild costume. What is that like?

• 19:38Speaker 02

  I'm not when fans meet.

• 19:39Christina Pazsitzky?

No, no, no. They meet you as as as human you. But like, I'm saying, like, even walking around at the MTV Music Awards. That's got to feel weird because you're not really filming a movie.

• 19:49Speaker 02

It does. That that does kind of feel weird because you, you know, people aren't relating to me. And I'm not in character because I'm, you know, not doing that.

• 20:04Speaker 02

But nobody's relating to me. They're relating to that image and what they see, you know, and all the pinhead jokes come out, you know, the pincushion jokes.

• 20:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  Let's go, let's hear them.

• 20:14Speaker 02

The dartboard jokes and, you know, all of that. Um, so, yeah, and, and being in sunlight isn't great with the makeup.

• 20:23Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah. Well, as a, as a goth of, you know, forty years or so, I know. Oh, I know.

• 20:30Speaker 02

Well, because the, uh, the foam latex is full of little air bubbles.

• 20:35Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 20:36Speaker 02

And they heat up slowly. And you don't notice the process until suddenly everything is getting very warm.

• 20:45Christina Pazsitzky?

  Wow.

• 20:46Speaker 02

And then it takes a long time to cool down again.

• 20:50Speaker 02

Uh, so, yes, it, um, uh, uh, and it was only me and Ringo that day. I didn't, I didn't, I didn't get to encounter Roseanne.

• 21:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  What?

• 21:01Speaker 02

Which would have been pretty wild, I think, but.

• 21:03Christina Pazsitzky?

  She would have loved it.

• 21:04Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 21:05Christina Pazsitzky?

Um, so I'm going to ask you all the basic questions that you get asked forty million times a year. How long does it take to put on the makeup, Doug?

• 21:13Speaker 02

It's been a pleasure talking to you.

• 21:16Christina Pazsitzky?

It's the worst. I'm sorry. I know. How do you come up with your skits, Christine?

• 21:21Speaker 02

Uh, well, um, uh, early days, it was about five or six hours, you know, and then it, then it comes up to about three or four would be the, the standard time.

• 21:36Christina Pazsitzky?

That's to get into it and then to get out of it at the end of a day?

• 21:39Speaker 02

  Thirty minutes to an hour.

• 21:40Christina Pazsitzky?

And just rip it off? Or no, no, they keep it intact because they're using it. No?

• 21:44Speaker 02

No. Neither of those things. Um, and I hated the removal much more than the application.

• 21:53Speaker 02

You have to proceed slowly because basically everything is glued to your skin. So you, you can't just rip it off. And in, in particular, in, in my case. Excuse me.

• 22:06Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, my God. Please don't do that.

• 22:08Speaker 02

  What?

• 22:08Christina Pazsitzky?

  Just kidding.

• 22:10Speaker 02

They, um, I, I, I see your microphone over there. I think clearing my throat is the least of our worries, but, um.

• 22:20Speaker 02

  Uh, what was I saying?

• 22:23Christina Pazsitzky?

Makeup, putting it on and taking it off.

• 22:25Speaker 02

  Oh, so.

• 22:26Christina Pazsitzky?

They gotta pay you a lot more for that part. Jesus, it's just hours of your life.

• 22:31Speaker 02

They used stuff called, uh, Prostate.

• 22:35Christina Pazsitzky?

  Prostate?

• 22:36Speaker 02

  Hmm?

• 22:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  Prost-

• 22:38Speaker 02

Prostate, but prosthetic aid, I think is, is the thing. That's, uh-

• 22:43Christina Pazsitzky?

  What year is this?

• 22:44Speaker 02

This is nineteen ninety-four. It's bloodline. It's, this was, uh, Movie Magic filmed this and, uh, gave the impression that this is what Pinhead liked to do. Um, he liked to, if you watch carefully, you'll realize that I haven't got a fucking clue how to throw a football. Um, I don't do American football, but, but they gave the impression that this is what Pinhead does when he's relaxing on set.

• 23:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 23:13Speaker 02

He likes to throw a football around in the parking lot.

• 23:17Christina Pazsitzky?

  This Cenobite.

• 23:18Speaker 02

Uh, no, he doesn't. Who the fuck is that?

• 23:21Christina Pazsitzky?

  Is that, is that-

• 23:22Speaker 02

Oh, that's Jamie. Right, okay. That's from, that's from the remake. The Hulu remake.

• 23:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, okay.

• 23:29Speaker 02

I haven't seen that picture before.

• 23:30Christina Pazsitzky?

So she is a lady. I could never tell what gender that Cenobite was, which is another reason you guys were so ahead of your time. You had non-binary Cenobites.

• 23:41Speaker 02

Uh, in some ways, I mean, as you said, I was, uh, um, wearing a skirt.

• 23:46Christina Pazsitzky?

So cool. It's like an S and M thing. I, gosh, so I read Clive Barker stuff as a young teenager and I didn't realize until last year when I reread Books of Blood, because I was in a really dark place after, um, you know, breast cancer stuff. I was like in the darkest place.

• 24:04Speaker 02

You turned to the Books of Blood to cheer yourself up?

• 24:07Christina Pazsitzky?

I don't know what it was, but I was like, I have to read something darker than what's in my head to get me to access those, that darkness. Do you know what I'm saying? Like, you have to see something that feels safe to you to be able to deal with those feelings. And so I was reading it and, um, a friend of mine was like, hey, you know Clive Barker, the guy who wrote it's a gay man. And I, it totally, you see it as an adult in a totally different way.

• 24:33Speaker 02

  Now, this is very recently.

• 24:36Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, this is like a year ago. I was like, oh my God, Clive Barker's a gay dude.

• 24:39Speaker 02

This is like Barry Manilow coming out.

• 24:43Christina Pazsitzky?

You're like, well, now I'm like, oh yeah. He was into like leather bond. That's probably why I liked it because I was a goth kid and I thought stylistically it's so cool.

• 26:07Speaker 02

You'd read The Books of Blood in high school?

• 26:09Christina Pazsitzky?

  As a teenager, yeah.

• 26:10Speaker 02

So you'd read In the Hills, The Cities?

• 26:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  I don't know that one.

• 26:14Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 26:15Christina Pazsitzky?

Which one's that? Is that, I've only read the first volume. I don't remember everything. Raw Had Rex?

• 26:21Speaker 02

I don't remember, running order. Well, you know, Raw Had Rex, a little bit of a clue in there as well.

• 26:28Christina Pazsitzky?

Right. Yes, yes. I didn't put together.

• 26:33Christina Pazsitzky?

Like, you know, the eroticism is being gay or whatever. I don't know.

• 26:37Speaker 02

  He's, he's not.

• 26:39Christina Pazsitzky?

Is he a Satanist? What I'm trying to ask you is that is he into sex magic Satanism?

• 26:44Speaker 02

Never, never mind the being homosexual bit. Is he a Satanist?

• 26:48Christina Pazsitzky?

Is he a Satanist? Are you a Satanist?

• 26:50Speaker 02

  Am I a Satanist?

• 26:51Christina Pazsitzky?

Do you get asked that a lot?

• 26:52Speaker 02

  Are you a Satanist?

• 26:53Christina Pazsitzky?

Definitely. I worship the devil daily. There you guys are.

• 26:57Speaker 02

  There we go.

• 26:58Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, he's cute. I've never even seen an image of him.

• 27:02Speaker 02

I, I think that may be on the set of Lord of Illusions. That was a weird night. I, I think that may be it. I was doing a night shoot for Hellraiser 4. Clive was doing a night shoot for Lord of Illusions, like a few blocks away, and they gave me permission in the middle of the night to go and visit.

• 27:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 27:20Speaker 02

So I did. I don't think Clive was best amused because it kind of brought his entire filming process to a standstill.

• 27:27Christina Pazsitzky?

I know, when you show up in that gear.

• 27:28Speaker 02

When Pinhead wandered on to set.

• 27:30Christina Pazsitzky?

So you guys have a really interesting past together that I didn't even, I was not even aware of. You guys have kind of...

• 27:37Speaker 02

I didn't answer your question, by the way.

• 27:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, sorry.

• 27:41Speaker 02

  No, he's not a Satanist.

• 27:42Christina Pazsitzky?

He's not a Satanist. And are you, do you worship the devil?

• 27:45Speaker 02

I, no. I'm, I'm an atheist, so by definition, if I don't believe in God, I can't believe in the devil.

• 27:53Christina Pazsitzky?

Good, good reasoning. True story. Okay, so hold on. You and Clive go way back. When did you meet him?

• 28:02Speaker 02

  Uh, 1723, 3 o'clock on a...

• 28:07Christina Pazsitzky?

  1723?

• 28:08Speaker 02

On a Monday afternoon, shortly before America was invented. I, I'm not sure of the precise year. It's gonna be, pardon for the liquid death noises off. Appropriate moment. Um. I got cast in the school play. This, we're at Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool.

• 28:34Speaker 02

Uh, were ten years before that, John Lennon was a pupil. Um, I I got cast in the school play, so I'm told to report to rehearsals, which I did, and met my fellow cast members, which included Fella My Lad. Um, so, uh, and that's, I I, you know, I've said, and it's true, really, that that was the day that changed my life.

• 29:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 29:00Speaker 02

Clive is already writing, starring in, directing, uh, hand drawing the posters for his own plays at school, which the head teacher used to give him, uh, permission to take over the school hall and put these plays on. And I got drawn into that orbit.

• 29:21Speaker 02

  Um.

• 29:23Christina Pazsitzky?

But isn't that amazing? Sorry, just for a minute, that your friends at that age are so seminal to who you become. Like, had you not met Clive and had you not gotten weird with him, we wouldn't be sitting here today. You know, had I not met my weirdo friends at fifteen and you and they're like, you should listen to this music, or you should read this book, or you should go here. And then that's how the Beatles met, right? Like in high school?

• 29:47Speaker 02

  Uh.

• 29:47Christina Pazsitzky?

A lot of people met in high school back in the day.

• 29:49Speaker 02

  Yeah, no.

• 29:50Christina Pazsitzky?

So anyway, continue. So you're with Clive in high school.

• 29:52Speaker 02

That's where you two formed, right? Adam, Adam Clayton put a, put a notice on the the school notice board, drummer, looking for people to be in the band.

• 30:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  Wild, right?

• 30:01Speaker 02

And the other three were at school with him, and they all said, hey, yeah.

• 30:05Christina Pazsitzky?

What is it about British schools?

• 30:07Speaker 02

Well, that was an Irish school, but, um.

• 30:08Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, you were in Irish school?

• 30:10Speaker 02

Yes, you have to make a sharp distinction.

• 30:12Christina Pazsitzky?

  Sorry.

• 30:12Speaker 02

  Between.

• 30:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  I know. Oh, I know.

• 30:15Speaker 02

And the Republic of Ireland, or you'll start a war.

• 30:17Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, I know.

• 30:19Speaker 02

Uh, oh, that was in nineteen ninety-two, the unveiling of, uh, at the Hollywood Wax Museum. Okay. So is that not actually me? It may not be, actually.

• 30:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  So weird.

• 30:29Speaker 02

That may, that may be a wax dummy in me. I thought I looked a bit weird.

• 30:35Christina Pazsitzky?

It looks really good, though, for ninety-two.

• 30:37Speaker 02

The costume doesn't look quite right.

• 30:40Christina Pazsitzky?

What is that like to to look at a photograph of yourself and go?

• 30:44Speaker 02

  And realize it isn't?

• 30:46Christina Pazsitzky?

That's just a statue of me in this wacky costume. And this absolute banana. Gee, so people always assume that you are this guy, right? That you are a torturous demon from hell when they meet you?

• 31:02Speaker 02

I don't know. That would be for people to answer.

• 31:08Speaker 02

But people are, you know, there's. It's the fun of the distinction between me and the character. You know, that that's always there. It's always there, but that's true for any, any entertain entertainer.

• 31:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 31:23Speaker 02

You know, the distinct for for for you. And, you know, when you're on stage.

• 31:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  Of course.

• 31:28Speaker 02

With, you know, you're the microphone. You you are in in character as Christina P. And and that's what you're presenting.

• 31:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  I know.

• 31:39Speaker 02

And then if people see you in the supermarket the next day, you know, it's.

• 31:42Christina Pazsitzky?

  No, it's weird.

• 31:44Speaker 02

Uh, which people, you know, I've had people say to me, you know, what are you doing here?

• 31:50Christina Pazsitzky?

They don't have HEB in hell.

• 31:52Speaker 02

  I eat food.

• 31:53Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 31:54Speaker 02

Yeah, but why are you here?

• 31:56Christina Pazsitzky?

Fucking wild. I've had people say that to me, too, like, wait, you carry a backpack? Somebody said that to me once at an airport. You're like, you have a backpack? I'm like, yeah, dude, like, I'm still an idiot. I'm still just a a human, but.

• 32:08Speaker 02

We just shamble around doing everyday things when.

• 32:12Christina Pazsitzky?

  Farting into microphones, dude.

• 32:13Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 32:15Christina Pazsitzky?

But I think it's such an important. It's such an important function.

• 32:18Speaker 02

Agreeing with you, but that's I've. I've never knowingly farted into a microphone in my life. If I feel the need to fart, I'll ask you for the microphone. You'll have a deal.

• 32:30Christina Pazsitzky?

This'll be the greatest day ever if Doug Bradley farted into my fart mic. Because then I can show my husband, like, see, celebrities love the fart mic, babe.

• 32:37Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 32:38Christina Pazsitzky?

You'd be like the first celebrity to fart.

• 32:40Speaker 02

Is he appalled by your fart mic?

• 32:42Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 32:42Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 32:42Christina Pazsitzky?

He doesn't want to give the people what they want. I know what the people want, and I want the fart mic, too.

• 32:48Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 32:48Christina Pazsitzky?

Such a fucking bullshit. But what I was gonna say is, um. It's such an important function that horror has in society. And I think you play a really, all monsters. And you've even written a book about masks and the function, right? Say a little bit about that. I know this book you wrote was based on a talk you gave.

• 33:10Speaker 02

Yeah, it started, it started as an illustrated lecture. And then it was suggested to me that it should be a book, which was cool. Because it was always very, very difficult for me to squeeze all the material down into, you know, an hour for this illustrated lecture. And it was still difficult for me to squeeze everything down into the book. So I, part of the thing that drew me into playing Pinhead. In the interim, after, after school and Pinhead, and that's, it's the best part of like 15 years in between.

• 33:53Speaker 02

We had done a lot of theater work together and we had done a lot of masking work in, in the theater work. And so there was always a fascination with that process. And as, as soon as I got into horror, it was very much, you know, those performances that were the most intriguing. Boris Karloff in Frankenstein, obviously, and then discovering Lon Chani Senior and so on and so forth. So in, in the book, I started by talking a little bit about the cultural, the whole cultural history of masking.

• 34:36Speaker 02

Because it, it seems as though there's not any culture, anywhere, anytime, any place that did not incorporate masking. Either in a, in a context of war, or in a context of religion, or in some function in, in daily life. And in particular, to elevate yourself out of the human, away from the human. And in the, in the moment of putting a mask on, you cease to be that human being and you, you become the thing that, that the mask

• 35:12Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 35:12Speaker 02

  presents

• 35:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 35:13Speaker 02

to the world. It's the image. It's the persona.

• 35:19Speaker 02

  And that's what persona means.

• 35:26Speaker 02

And then I talked about how, you know, we tend to talk about theatre being born in the sacred groves behind the Acropolis, the groves that were involved in the worship of Dionysus. Theatre seems to be born there and Greek theatre grows out of that. In Greek theatre, every single actor was masked. No actor in Greek theatre ever went on stage as themselves. And these were fixed rigid masks that presented a persona, a character, and you would recognise, the audience would recognise immediately from the mask who this person was and what their function was.

• 36:10Speaker 02

And it, there's also a suggestion, they always have very kind of exaggerated mouthpieces like that, and it's suggested that this may also have served the function of helping to, you know, like a loud hailer, project the voice out into the amphitheatre. I talked about no theatre in Japan, which is all masked, Kabuki theatre in Japan as well. And then I took it into, into horror movies, which seemed to me is where the legacy gets carried forward in the 20th century, gods and demons and magic and transformation.

• 36:56Speaker 02

And so I, I wanted to talk specifically about the actor's relationship to the makeup.

• 37:04Speaker 02

Lon Chaney Senior, it was like, it was like a calling for him, you know, he made his own makeups, he applied the makeups himself.

• 37:13Speaker 02

Um, and no other actor has done that. You it, you might not be.

• 37:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  So cool.

• 37:19Speaker 02

He was, I mean, look at that and he did, he, all of that he did himself.

• 37:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Are you kidding me?

• 37:23Speaker 02

All of that he did himself.

• 37:25Christina Pazsitzky?

  So iconic, this guy.

• 37:26Speaker 02

Um, and he wouldn't let any of his secrets away. Uh, he wouldn't talk about it and he, he refused to answer fan mail. Everything went in the bin, uh, n- n- nothing. There are a couple of staged pictures of him with his makeup kit. It's very theatrical, a lot of his makeup, cause he started in Vaudeville and that was where he learned. You see the picture there of him with his, with the makeup box, which I think you can see in the Los Angeles County Museum. Um, but that's a staged pic- staged picture. Nobody ever got near him when he was, when he was doing his, makeups.

• 38:06Speaker 02

Um, and then you've, you know, you, you have like Charles Lawton playing the hunchback of Notre Dame. Uh, who had a, a very, very bad relationship with his makeup artist. Um, and Boris Karloff and Jack Pierce, very, very close, uh, relationship. Working on Frankenstein and, uh, and also The Mummy. Uh, that's, uh, Jack Pierce working in his, looks like a dentist, doesn't he?

• 38:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  It's amazing.

• 38:37Speaker 02

Um, working on, uh, on Karloff.

• 38:41Christina Pazsitzky?

Wow, do you realize you're like an iconic monster?

• 38:45Speaker 02

  Well, I do. Um, I.

• 38:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  So great.

• 38:49Speaker 02

I, I, I, I have to, um, you know, because it's, just because it's, it's incontrovertible. We, we all are, all the people we've been talking about, Robert and Kane and, uh, uh, Gunnar Hansen, that, um, late Gunnar Hansen who played the first Leatherface. So memorably and so brilliantly.

• 39:11Christina Pazsitzky?

  Terrifying.

• 39:14Speaker 02

We are, we've, we have left our indelible mark on, on horror cinema. I, I mean, I, it's very difficult for me to put myself in the same company as, as Boris.

• 39:26Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, you are. Let me tell you, I had to walk out of Hellbound Hellraiser 2 when I was 13 years old. I had to leave. That's how traumatized I was.

• 39:35Speaker 02

  Cool.

• 39:36Christina Pazsitzky?

So cool. I've never walked out of a film because I was that afraid. My stepsister and I snuck in, you know, we're too young to be in it.

• 39:43Speaker 02

  Thirteen?

• 39:43Christina Pazsitzky?

I was 13 years old and there was skin, was it 88? It was 1942.

• 39:49Speaker 02

  Was it an R probably?

• 39:49Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, it was R. And it's the first time, I think it was Julia coming out of the mattress.

• 39:55Speaker 02

  That's a scene.

• 39:56Christina Pazsitzky?

  Holy shit, man.

• 39:57Speaker 02

  That's full on, that one.

• 39:58Christina Pazsitzky?

And I've never seen anything like that before. And then you show up. Oh, Julia. Oh, my God. It still terrifies me.

• 40:07Speaker 02

  It, it's, it's, it's wild.

• 40:09Christina Pazsitzky?

It is wild. There's nothing like this.

• 40:12Speaker 02

It's all the, the, the, the cutting of, of the arm Oliver Smith.

• 40:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  Get him off me.

• 40:19Speaker 02

Who played Skinned Frank in Hellraiser and he's, he's back.

• 40:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 40:24Speaker 02

Uh, for that. And you, you've got all of that. And it's, that's quite difficult to deal with. And it's only, it's only a kind of, um, um, appetizer.

• 40:36Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 40:37Speaker 02

For, for Julia emerging from the mattress. It's, it's pretty wild.

• 40:42Christina Pazsitzky?

Spoiler alert, if you haven't seen this movie, came out in 1988. We can talk about it, right, Josh? I always get into trouble. But yeah, it gets way crazier. And I just re-watched it before you came to Austin, just to re-terrify myself. And it's still, I think, because you have the themes of mental illness and Dr. Chenard and Kirsty.

• 41:03Speaker 02

  Kirsty, yeah.

• 41:04Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, no, don't even say it. Can I tell you my favorite line? Well, why, when I really started to love Pinhead and I, I was like, oh, this character's different. This guy's got some humanity. This is deeper than just slash bullshit stuff. You know what I'm saying? Like, is when Tiffany unlocks the box and summons the Cenobites. And then they all come out and you're last and you go, no. And then the lady with the thing goes, no. And you go, no.

• 41:33Speaker 02

It is not hands that call us. It is desire.

• 41:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  Desire.

• 41:42Christina Pazsitzky?

I just got diarrhea having you do that to me right now. Yeah. Oh, I gotta fart, Mike. Yeah, I gotta fucking shit in the mic, man.

• 41:52Christina Pazsitzky?

Stressing me out, Doug. Yeah, that's so like, uh, oh, man.

• 41:56Speaker 02

You see, what, and what you, what you were saying earlier is, is very true because Latherface doesn't speak.

• 42:02Christina Pazsitzky?

  No, no.

• 42:03Speaker 02

He kind of makes piggy noises beautifully, brilliantly done by Gunna, but he doesn't speak. Michael doesn't speak. Jason doesn't speak. Freddie does, but he just calls everybody a bitch and, you know.

• 42:17Christina Pazsitzky?

He talks some shit in the concert dreams, which is terrifying.

• 42:20Speaker 02

And I, I've always said that, you know, Freddie is rock and, if Freddie is rock and roll, Pinhead is, um, a requiem mass.

• 42:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 42:29Speaker 02

That's, that, that's where he belongs. And what you said about what, what, what I channel with the character. That's all down to Clive. That's all down to Clive.

• 42:41Christina Pazsitzky?

  Don't do that.

• 42:42Speaker 02

That's, but he, but those ideas.

• 42:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Of humanity.

• 42:48Speaker 02

Those, those lines, those resonating lines. Um, no tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering and your suffering will be legendary even in hell and we'll tear your soul apart and all of that. That, that is all from Clive. I mean, I'm, I'm not, I'm not engaging in false modesty at all. Yes, that's my performance and, and I did what I did with it. And obviously I seem to have done something right, but, but the material comes from Clive. I mean, I changed not one word of what he wrote. And the thing for me was because obviously I'd also, uh, I, I'd had a front row seat

• 43:33Speaker 02

for that 15 years to all of Clive's creativity.

• 43:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  How dare you.

• 43:39Speaker 02

  I had a belch.

• 43:40Christina Pazsitzky?

I did that and we missed it. We're gonna need a belch mic too.

• 43:43Speaker 02

  This is the belch mic.

• 43:48Speaker 02

The plays, the kind of juvenilia movies that he was making, the short stories, and the endless, endless art, the constant art, the drawing every single day of his life. I saw all of that, and particularly in the writing. As you know from the books of blood, he naturally has quite a high poetic style. It's very easy to read. But I would make a comparison to Poe, who does the same thing.

• 44:30Speaker 02

But that's naturally Clive's writing style. So when I started reading The Hellraiser screenplay, the first thing that struck me was how he was kind of almost writing down. Because he had to, he was kind of writing in movie ease, which is not necessarily the way that he would normally be writing. And I was very aware that when Pinhead arrived and started to speak, I felt like Clive was going, "Thank fuck for that." And he was, you know, he was taking the handbrake off and...

• 45:06Christina Pazsitzky?

  Let it rip!

• 45:07Speaker 02

Yeah. So the language he employs for Pinhead is completely different from the way that anybody else in the movie speaks. So I have those lines, that language, that costume, that makeup, you know.

• 45:25Christina Pazsitzky?

No. What's your... I mean, it's haunting, it's truly... But you're right, because it is such a scene stealer. You just want to watch Pinhead talk. You're like, "What's he gonna say? What's he gonna do? Is he gonna kill? What's he gonna do?" Can I ask you like the stupidest question, like Chris Farley type?

• 45:44Speaker 02

Remember when you were in that band?

• 45:50Christina Pazsitzky?

I feel like that's what this interview is.

• 45:52Speaker 02

  Not great?

• 45:52Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, no, it's the fucking, it's the best.

• 45:55Speaker 02

Go on, you can ask me a stupid question.

• 45:58Christina Pazsitzky?

  So...

• 46:03Christina Pazsitzky?

You use the hour. I, um, what accent does Pinhead have in, in correlation? Like what part of England is he from? If you have to, cause I, I don't think you're doing like a Liverpool accent, right? Like so.

• 46:18Speaker 02

Scouse Pinhead. I'll tear your fucking soul apart lad. I'll tell you now. You're suffering. It'll be fucking legendary, even in hell.

• 46:29Christina Pazsitzky?

Totally different movie and everybody gets a pint.

• 46:32Speaker 02

  It would be. Yeah.

• 46:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  Totally different.

• 46:35Speaker 02

You know what I mean like?

• 46:35Christina Pazsitzky?

You know what I mean like?

• 46:37Speaker 02

  Yeah, no, that's.

• 46:38Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, I do it like Australian. You said.

• 46:40Speaker 02

Well, you, you go Cockney like, like, not like.

• 46:44Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, oh, yeah.

• 46:44Speaker 02

  Like.

• 46:45Christina Pazsitzky?

  Like.

• 46:46Speaker 02

  Like.

• 46:46Christina Pazsitzky?

  Like.

• 46:47Speaker 02

You know what I mean like?

• 46:48Christina Pazsitzky?

You know what I mean like?

• 46:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 46:50Christina Pazsitzky?

  Well, governor, what's?

• 46:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 46:51Christina Pazsitzky?

  Governor.

• 46:53Speaker 02

Oh, for fuck's sake. No tears, please.

• 46:55Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, for fuck's.

• 46:57Speaker 02

It's a waste of good suffering. Come on. Save that suffering for later.

• 47:03Christina Pazsitzky?

So cool, man. We just rewrote this.

• 47:05Speaker 02

Um, yeah, no, I, I'm not sure that would have worked.

• 47:09Christina Pazsitzky?

  No, no.

• 47:10Speaker 02

  I, I don't know. It's just, it's just my voice.

• 47:13Christina Pazsitzky?

It's your voice and it's special. I want to share this photo.

• 47:16Speaker 02

I wasn't, well, I mean, by definition, he's countryless, stateless, you know? He has no, he has no social place. He has no, he is, he is, you know, he's kind of in abeyance as a being. So there's no, there's no geographical or cultural location for him.

• 47:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  Well.

• 47:38Speaker 02

  Other than hell.

• 47:39Christina Pazsitzky?

Hell, yeah. Okay. Hell, his address, H E double hockey sticks.

• 47:43Speaker 02

  No, yes.

• 47:45Christina Pazsitzky?

I just want to show this photograph. Is this you and Clive?

• 47:49Speaker 02

  Mm hmm.

• 47:49Christina Pazsitzky?

As babies? Look at you two.

• 47:53Christina Pazsitzky?

And your lovely wife Steph sent this to me.

• 47:56Speaker 02

  Right.

• 47:56Christina Pazsitzky?

And I thought this was really cool. Can you talk about that a little bit?

• 48:02Speaker 02

Sure. So, um, it's 1976. We're in Liverpool. Uh, so I am, it's a, I'm 21. How about that? Fuck me.

• 48:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  I know.

• 48:17Speaker 02

Uh, so we're almost 50 years on, cause I turn 71 in a few weeks.

• 48:28Speaker 02

Um, and for for those people who know their Liverpool geography, um, uh, looking, looking through the window, uh, we're looking out on Belvedere Road. And, uh, it it was a, it was a point where Clive was kind of ramping up filming on The Forbidden again, which had been, was a, a, a thing that was, was rolling around for a few years. And it, it, it rolled on for a few years beyond that. It started out as an adaptation of Christopher, uh, Chris, Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus. Hmm. The play, uh, to make that as an adaptation, uh, for a film.

• 49:12Speaker 02

Even by this time, it's become something completely, uh, different.

• 49:20Speaker 02

And we're in a flat that two, two, uh, two people who were both at Quarry Bank, um, and were part of the group that had constellated around, um, Clive. This was their flat and, and they'd agreed to let Clive use a room in, in the flat, as we call them in England, apartment. Um.

• 49:46Speaker 02

And it was completely painted black and that, the circuit, the, the circles on the window, Clive had put that in there because he wanted sunlight to come in through the window in with those patterns. And we painted the floor, we'd stripped the room back to bare floorboards and painted those, um, either white or alternately black and white. Um. What you're seeing on the edge is the nail board, um, as I call it. And this was purely a visual idea that Clive wanted to explore in the film. So I have to always think this, uh, backwards, um.

• 50:36Speaker 02

He's got a piece of wood and he's painted it white. And he's put a gridiron pattern on it um in black.

• 50:47Speaker 02

And then at each intersection, uh he's put in a nail, a big, like a six inch, nine inch nail, big chunky nail. And then just filming it flat on and swinging a light. Hmm.

• 51:05Speaker 02

In front of it, so that the shadows of the nails moved across the board um like a sundial.

• 51:14Speaker 02

But then developing it in negative. So that now the nails appear as kind of ghostly grey things. The the shadows are now white shadows on a black background with a white gridiron. And the shadows are white, which shadows ought not to be. Hmm. And they're moving backwards and forwards on on the nailboard. That's crazy. That's it. It's just it's just a visual idea. Um.

• 51:54Speaker 02

It's one of one of one of the one of the keys to the way that Clive, Clive works, always worked with his imagination. There are lots of examples of this. Nothing's ever wasted. Hmm. Nothing's ever forgotten. Everything's always in there. So as I say, this is nineteen seventy six, nine years later. Uh in, no, ten years later, nineteen eighty six, we're turning the cameras on Hellraiser. And Clive has anthropomorphized the nailboard. And it's become.

• 52:34Speaker 02

Uh, the character who had no name, who became you, you know, known as Pinhead.

• 52:41Christina Pazsitzky?

  It's wild.

• 52:41Speaker 02

None of the Cenobites have had any name.

• 52:44Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah, right?

• 52:45Speaker 02

In my, in my own head, they, uh, uh, Pinhead doesn't. It was, it was the special effects makeup crew who gave us the names when they were prepping the film. Cause I'm lead Cenobite and then there's, I, you know, was Chattering Cenobite.

• 53:00Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, the chatterbox. I didn't like that guy either.

• 53:03Speaker 02

The fat Cenobite and the female, the female Cenobite. They needed names for when they were working on the makeups in the, in the workshop, you know?

• 53:11Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 53:11Speaker 02

I'm, are, are you working on the lead Cenobite today? You know, it's a bit, so they gave us the, the, the, the names were their nicknames for us.

• 53:20Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's amazing.

• 53:21Speaker 02

Pinhead, Butterball, Chatterer, and the female Cenobite was called Deep Throat.

• 53:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  I didn't know that.

• 53:30Speaker 02

Uh, which, um, may be the reason why she continued to be credited as the, the female Cenobite. Um, but so in the preparation of the film, they had all been talking about, um, Pinhead and Butterball and Chatterer. And so when we went on set, that, those were the names that were being used. Um, and they just, they, they, they stuck so that by, by the time certainly Hellbound came out, the press were talking about Pinhead.

• 54:06Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh my gosh.

• 54:08Speaker 02

Uh, but, but in, in my mind, he, he, he has no name. Nobody ever called him Pinhead in the movies. He was called a Pinhead.

• 54:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  But as human.

• 54:18Speaker 02

  But that's a different, a different thing.

• 54:20Christina Pazsitzky?

What was his name as a human?

• 54:22Speaker 02

Uh, Spencer Elliott, captain in the,

• 54:26Christina Pazsitzky?

  Captain.

• 54:26Speaker 02

In the British Army in the First World War.

• 54:29Christina Pazsitzky?

Old timey. He had a piss helmet.

• 54:30Speaker 02

When we see him, uh, when we see him at the beginning of Hellbound, it's, uh, probably nineteen twenty-one.

• 54:40Speaker 02

He stayed in the British Army and he's um uh he would be the the reason that we see him in in tropical uniform is that he's probably now uh engaged in putting down the Indian mutinies in the early nineteen twenties.

• 54:59Christina Pazsitzky?

  There it is.

• 55:00Speaker 02

You get a little clue with the voice on the radio.

• 55:04Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 55:04Speaker 02

Uh which is talking in uh say Indian, that's ridiculous, there's no such language, but whatever Urdu or Hindi or whatever language it is that you hear, which is just a little clue as as to where we are.

• 55:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  Not English, am I right?

• 55:19Speaker 02

Um and there is his pith helmet.

• 55:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  There is the pith helmet.

• 55:23Speaker 02

And that's why he's got a pith helmet because he's he's out in out in India.

• 55:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  And.

• 55:29Speaker 02

There would have been uh scenes preceding this um of him in an Indian street bazaar.

• 55:38Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 55:39Speaker 02

Making his way, looking for the place that he's been told sells lament configurations.

• 55:48Christina Pazsitzky?

  The puzzle box, yes.

• 55:49Speaker 02

And then he would have gone in and then you would have had the standard uh Hellraiser transaction.

• 55:55Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 55:55Speaker 02

What's your pleasure? What's it worth and all all of that and that in inside now. We'd had a big bump up in budget from Hellraiser to Hellbound, but then there was there was a financial crisis and as the as the the as the money was being moved from Los Angeles to London, the exchange rates went crazy and wiped about a third off the budget by the time the money was in London um and New World uh couldn't make up.

• 56:30Speaker 02

The money that was even talk about postponing filming until things settle down a bit. But we went ahead. And so those two scenes prior to this moment, which really

• 56:45Christina Pazsitzky?

It's so hard to watch. I still can't.

• 56:48Speaker 02

Only because they, you know, they would have required two, two sets building and they're only establishing scenes.

• 56:57Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, you don't need to do that for an establishing scene.

• 56:59Speaker 02

They went, which was a shame. It would, that would have been nice.

• 57:03Christina Pazsitzky?

Fuck, I forgot. It was about him. Oh, I read the novella that that story is based on.

• 57:09Speaker 02

  The Hellbound Heart.

• 57:10Christina Pazsitzky?

Yes. And it's, I didn't even realize this before because I was always like, well, why do these people want to go to hell? What the hell is wrong? Like, what's wrong with you? What is that? And in that book, The Hellbound Heart, right? So think of it, they're promising him, they kind of trick him, the Cenobites are like, he's assuming he's going to get like ladies.

• 57:28Speaker 02

Well, that's what everybody assumes. That's what, that's what Frank assumes in, in, in Hellraiser. And, and again, the difference to, to the other movies around at the time are,

• 57:43Speaker 02

Pinhead is not a boogeyman. He's not, he's not hiding around the corners in the shadows, waiting to jump you. There's a whole process here. You have to be somewhere fucked up enough in your head that you, you,

• 58:03Speaker 02

you, you become aware of the existence of this thing called the Le Menque configuration.

• 58:09Speaker 02

And the promise that it's going to give you something beyond. And Frank has the line, it's never enough. It's never enough. And for him, that's all about, you know, sex and drugs, no matter how much sex he does, no matter how many, how quantities of drugs he takes, it's never enough. And the Cenobites, the box seemed to promise something beyond.

• 58:36Speaker 02

That's Dr. Faustus, that's straight out of, out of Faustus, it's straight out of Marlowe again, where he says, it's not, it's not sex and drugs and rock and roll within, in, in, in Elizabethan England, but, um, Faustus is saying, he's studied everything, he's, he's studied the philosophers, he's studied natural history, he's studied theology, he's studied the, the natural sciences, he's studied everything.

• 59:04Speaker 02

  And it's not enough.

• 59:05Christina Pazsitzky?

  Is that all there is?

• 59:06Speaker 02

It's not giving him the answers, and that's when Mephistophilis appears and says, "I can help you with that."

• 59:14Speaker 02

  "For a price."

• 59:14Christina Pazsitzky?

  Ugh.

• 59:15Speaker 02

  "Your soul."

• 59:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yep.

• 59:17Speaker 02

And so that's, that's, you know, that, it's a Faustian bargain, but, so you have to, you have to have the motivation to want to find a Lament configuration, I don't know, you know, you can't just, you know, I don't know whether now you could go on Amazon.

• 59:33Christina Pazsitzky?

I've got one in my study.

• 59:34Speaker 02

  Lament configuration.

• 59:35Christina Pazsitzky?

I got one, I got it on Etsy. It lights up, though.

• 59:38Speaker 02

Um, and you have to obtain it, work out how to open it.

• 59:45Christina Pazsitzky?

  Solve the damn thing.

• 59:46Speaker 02

With the right motivation, it is not hands that call us.

• 59:49Christina Pazsitzky?

  Right.

• 59:50Speaker 02

And then and only then, will you meet the Cenobites, but as you say in The Hellbound Heart, that's what, that's what Frank assumes.

• 59:58Christina Pazsitzky?

That it's gonna be horny, good times.

• 1:00:00Speaker 02

What, what Clive does so brilliantly in The Hellbound Heart is that what Frank gets is he gets everything, he gets everything.

• 1:00:07Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 1:00:07Speaker 02

All at once, all at the same time, um, you know, he's, he's, he's, he's coming all over the floorboards, he's, he's got every song, every song, every piece of music he's ever heard in his life, in his ears, all at the same time. Every, all the conversations he's been engaged in, and, and every conversation he's overheard, it's all happening to him, all at the same time, and he, uh, Clive says, you know, he could, he could feel every, every breath, he can feel at the, in his throat, every dust

• 1:00:45Speaker 02

mote on his skin, he's aware of, he's hyper aware of, and it's insanity, and he's screaming and begging for it to stop.

• 1:00:54Christina Pazsitzky?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:00:57Speaker 02

And then it does, and he's lying on a heap, in a heap on the floor. Um, and the female cenobite is watching him in a very rude kind of way.

• 1:01:10Speaker 02

Brilliantly described by Clive in The Hellbound Heart. No, she's just watching him and she's got, she's got her legs spread, showing everything with these tongues. From, that Frank has no doubt belonged to people that she has killed, laid out on her thighs.

• 1:01:34Speaker 02

And she just looks at him and says, so you've, you've finished dreaming. Good. Now we can play, or time to, which becomes time to play in, in, in the movies. And that's the, that's, that's the kickstart to the, to the Hellbound Heart.

• 1:01:52Christina Pazsitzky?

Fucks me up, yeah. Right? Like, do you just feel fucked up just hearing that? But it's a cautionary tale, and it's also about like the hedonic treadmill that you can, one can get on instead of just being still and being like, yeah, dude, you know? Kind of like I want to tell my dad, like, there's only so many bitches you can fuck. There's only so many stepmoms I can have. Right? You're right. This is the, this is the story of like, it's never enough. It, it, you've got to find peace and calm. It's not, it's not out there. Nothing is out there. It's an inside job.

• 1:02:23Speaker 02

But it's, but it's our curse, isn't it?

• 1:02:26Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, of course. We're human. Sucks.

• 1:02:28Speaker 02

That we, we always want to, you know,

• 1:02:32Speaker 02

we see a mountain, we want to climb the mountain, so we climb the mountain. And there's another mountain.

• 1:02:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:38Speaker 02

So now we have to climb.

• 1:02:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  No!

• 1:02:39Speaker 02

The mountain. And, oh, look, there's another mountain.

• 1:02:42Christina Pazsitzky?

  No!

• 1:02:43Speaker 02

  Here we go, you know?

• 1:02:44Christina Pazsitzky?

I don't know who was, who was it said that?

• 1:02:45Speaker 02

  What's, what's up, what's out there?

• 1:02:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah, more.

• 1:02:48Speaker 02

Well, I don't, we'd, we'd better build a rocket and go and find out, hadn't we? We, we have that, this insatiable cure, you know? Uh, whales, we know, are hugely, hugely intelligent. I just read this thing about, from. Uh, studying whale song, they've worked out this process that when whales are migrating, they're sometimes not quite sure which way they should go, you know, like us in cars before GPS. Do we, do we, do we go straight on here or do we make a, do we, Fred, do you remember last year? Did we go straight? Well, I'm, I think we turned left. I don't think so. I think we were.

• 1:03:31Speaker 02

And they will keep this conversation going between themselves for long periods of time and they won't make a decision until every, every whale in the pod has reached an agreement, which by the sounds they're making are kind of coming together. And then they make their decision to go. They're hugely social, hugely intelligent. And apparently perfectly content to be whales in the ocean. They, they come out and breach.

• 1:04:03Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes, yeah.

• 1:04:03Speaker 02

They obviously have an awareness that there's this other place up here. But they don't have the desire to, you know, go and build machines to take themselves out.

• 1:04:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  No.

• 1:04:17Speaker 02

Uh, to, to go and explore, you know, there, there isn't a whale yet who said, Bob, you know, when we breach, when we do that jumping up in the air thing?

• 1:04:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:28Speaker 02

And all the people on the boats take photographs of us.

• 1:04:30Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:31Speaker 02

Um, you wanna go and join them?

• 1:04:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  No.

• 1:04:34Speaker 02

You know, find out what they're up to, see what they're doing.

• 1:04:37Christina Pazsitzky?

  I know. I know. It's, it's like the reward.

• 1:04:39Speaker 02

  They don't have that.

• 1:04:40Christina Pazsitzky?

They don't have that. Well, yeah, it, it, I know. Someone once said to me, like, you know what the reward is for being a successful comedian? Just more work. The reward is for being successful. You just do more of the same shit. Do it harder, faster, again and again and again. And yet.

• 1:04:58Speaker 02

  When's your next special out?

• 1:05:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, fuck, who cares?

• 1:05:03Christina Pazsitzky?

Who cares? Listen, I, I wanna do one thing with you since you're from Liverpool. By the way, I think we have to thank, uh, your son Sage for hooking us up.

• 1:05:14Speaker 02

  My, my stepson.

• 1:05:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:16Speaker 02

Um, Steph's, Steph's son. Absolutely. Um, Sage.

• 1:05:23Christina Pazsitzky?

Thank you, because he made you aware of your mom's house.

• 1:05:26Speaker 02

Well, he made, he, he made his mom aware of your mom's house. He was, he was, he's hugely into comedy. Massively into comedy. Uh, uh, and he's been listening to Joe Rogan for forever, which I think is, I think it's a wonderful thing because he is of the generation that doesn't read.

• 1:05:48Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:49Speaker 02

You know, he, he's of, is it maybe the first generation of Americans who will not have read, uh, um, uh, Tom Sawyer.

• 1:06:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:01Speaker 02

Will not have read Huckleberry Finn. And probably never will.

• 1:06:05Christina Pazsitzky?

  That sucks.

• 1:06:05Speaker 02

What, what Rogan has done is he's introduced him to the marketplace of ideas. He's introduced him to this place where people do this.

• 1:06:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yes.

• 1:06:17Speaker 02

And just sit and exchange ideas in a civilized manner. So Sage.

• 1:06:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Civilized.

• 1:06:23Speaker 02

Sage is hugely into, into comedy.

• 1:06:26Christina Pazsitzky?

He's gotta come out to Austin.

• 1:06:27Speaker 02

So he, he, he had started listening to YMH and he said to, and he said to his mom, you gotta, you gotta watch this, Your Mom's House, cause the chick is on there.

• 1:06:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:40Speaker 02

She's kinda like, kinda a bit like you. So, so Steph started watching and then from time to time she'd show me clips.

• 1:06:51Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 1:06:51Speaker 02

  You know, of the craziness.

• 1:06:53Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, and that's when we started interacting on, uh, Instagram a little bit. And I was like, no way, this guy's fucking crazy, this guy likes us.

• 1:07:00Speaker 02

  Right.

• 1:07:00Christina Pazsitzky?

I don't think Pinhead had a sense of humor, but he does. Um, hey, so you're from Liverpool and I I need you to help me decipher what's happening here.

• 1:07:10Speaker 02

  Oh, God.

• 1:07:10Christina Pazsitzky?

You can translate some of this?

• 1:07:12Speaker 02

I'll try. Sometimes when I go back to Liverpool now, because they they they did this survey recently on regional accents in Britain and they they they they concluded that regional accents are kind of merging, that they're they're softening, they're losing their edge.

• 1:07:29Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 1:07:30Speaker 02

You know, it used to be you you could go from one village to another village only a few miles down the road. And and the the the language and the dialect would change slightly.

• 1:07:42Christina Pazsitzky?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:07:42Speaker 02

You know, in an age when ten miles was a long way and it, you know, it was a big deal to make a journey from there to there. Um, and this was generally true around the country, except in Liverpool.

• 1:07:55Christina Pazsitzky?

  Hmm.

• 1:07:56Speaker 02

Where the accent was getting stronger, was getting more severe. So sometimes, uh, when I'm back in Liverpool, I hear people speaking and I think, I have, I have no idea what you're saying.

• 1:08:08Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, well, listen to this, see if you can help me, okay?

• 1:08:12Speaker 02

  I'll do my best.

• 1:08:17Speaker 02

  How do you reckon so?

• 1:08:18Christina Pazsitzky?

Wait, how do I have to pause it? Press the space bar on me. I'm retarded.

• 1:08:25Speaker 02

So, uh, if you go back to the beginning, I the the they're talking about football.

• 1:08:31Christina Pazsitzky?

  Okay.

• 1:08:32Speaker 02

  Soccer.

• 1:08:32Christina Pazsitzky?

  Soccer.

• 1:08:33Speaker 02

Um, so I the the first bit is, um, how do you reckon we're gonna get on this year, lad? Or do we want to go to Wembley again? I think that's

• 1:08:44Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh shit, man.

• 1:08:45Speaker 02

I think that's the first two lines and then I I.

• 1:08:49Christina Pazsitzky?

One more time? So, Jack, I'm gonna get on, lad.

• 1:08:52Speaker 02

Obviously, you're not gonna win, we're gonna beat you, so we're drawing, get a replay at our ground. Right, you so he's he's an Evertonian, the guy in the blue supports Everton and the guy in the red supports Liverpool and he's saying,

• 1:09:07Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 1:09:08Speaker 02

I think yous, yous, and that's.

• 1:09:12Speaker 07

  Replay at our ground.

• 1:09:14Speaker 02

Yous are gonna draw and get a replay at our ground.

• 1:09:17Christina Pazsitzky?

Show me how to pause it. Hold on, let Tom chastise me a little bit.

• 1:09:21Speaker 07

Oh, bell house, bell house. Oh, he's dead. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.

• 1:09:29Christina Pazsitzky?

Wow, okay, let's, so we know we're talking about football.

• 1:09:34Speaker 02

Yes, so it's, how do you reckon we're gonna get on, lad? Is, is, is the first line. I think yous are gonna go to Wembley again, and then

• 1:09:45Speaker 02

I, I would guess maybe Liverpool and Everton have played, uh, uh, an FA Cup game, knockout game at Anfield. Um, and I, so I think the Evertonian is then saying, I think yous are gonna get a draw and a replay at our ground.

• 1:10:05Speaker 02

But it's very, it's very, very flat and it's very quick. How do you reckon we're gonna get on, lad?

• 1:10:10Christina Pazsitzky?

You got it, you got it.

• 1:10:10Speaker 02

Yous are gonna go to Wembley again, yous are gonna get a draw at your ground and then get a replay at our, at our place, you know?

• 1:10:16Christina Pazsitzky?

What makes you say that? Cause we done it last game, bah, two weeks ago. What's bah?

• 1:10:22Speaker 02

Bah, I don't know what that is.

• 1:10:23Christina Pazsitzky?

  About two weeks ago, maybe?

• 1:10:24Speaker 02

Cause we've done it, cause we've done it about two weeks ago, might be about, about.

• 1:10:29Christina Pazsitzky?

Okay, let's go to the next clip.

• 1:10:32Speaker 07

You didn't park the bus, you played.

• 1:10:33Speaker 02

Parked the bus. We played, we played football. Parked the bus is, um, that's a, that means you, you were being, you were being very, very defensive. You, you, so you're going into the game to protect nil-nil, to not concede. So it's, so it effectively, the idea is you've parked, parked a bus in front of the goal.

• 1:10:57Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, got, got it, got it. So they can't, they can't do, okay, got it. Okay.

• 1:11:00Speaker 02

  Parked, parked the bus.

• 1:11:04Speaker 05

celebrating like you just won the World Cup.

• 1:11:08Speaker 02

You're celebrating lad like you just won the World Cup.

• 1:11:12Christina Pazsitzky?

You you nail that by the way.

• 1:11:14Speaker 02

  Which you know.

• 1:11:14Christina Pazsitzky?

  Doug Radley.

• 1:11:15Speaker 02

They do. That's the thing with Evertonians. They get a fucking draw. They think they've won, you know. That's the truth of it.

• 1:11:21Christina Pazsitzky?

  Okay.

• 1:11:22Speaker 02

They did last season. They beat us two two all at Goodison and they were. No, they they it was late on, you know, in our inexorable march to winning the title for the twentieth time. We drew two all at Goodison against Everton.

• 1:11:38Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, you're speaking. It's like Chinese, the good old Levis.

• 1:11:42Speaker 02

  They were celebrating.

• 1:11:45Speaker 02

So that's what he's saying. Use um. Use a. Got a draw and and use a celebrating like he'd won the World Cup.

• 1:11:54Christina Pazsitzky?

Okay, that was really good. Try this guy. Okay, you did that one really, really well. This one is probably.

• 1:12:01Speaker 02

  Girl.

• 1:12:03Christina Pazsitzky?

Probably the hardest in Y M H history.

• 1:12:05Speaker 05

And we're here in Killarney because we've been invited by a very special character. I hear he's a local legend.

• 1:12:11Speaker 02

  He's Irish.

• 1:12:15Speaker 05

Sam, how are you? We're here in Killarney today.

• 1:12:20Speaker 05

  Are you from Killarney?

• 1:12:24Speaker 05

  Born and bred.

• 1:12:28Speaker 02

Born and bred in Killarney. So. So it's a place that we would know as Killarney. I mean, I'm not it's this is I'm this I'm out of my depth here, but uh um. Uh, he's pronouncing Killarney as. Killarney.

• 1:12:44Christina Pazsitzky?

  Killarney.

• 1:12:44Speaker 02

Killarney, born and bred in Killarney.

• 1:12:46Christina Pazsitzky?

  Okay.

• 1:12:47Speaker 02

Uh, with not very many teeth in his head, which doesn't help, but um. I think the guy, the guy interviewing him who is Irish, I think he's struggling a bit.

• 1:12:57Christina Pazsitzky?

Well, they all are. Okay, so let's keep going.

• 1:12:59Speaker 05

What's your favorite thing about Killarney?

• 1:13:11Speaker 02

Good player. Somebody's a good player.

• 1:13:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, you.

• 1:13:15Speaker 02

He may be called. He may be called O'Connor. I think I may have caught that, but.

• 1:13:20Christina Pazsitzky?

O'Connor, the the player is O'Connor?

• 1:13:22Speaker 02

  Maybe.

• 1:13:22Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:23Speaker 02

  I wouldn't. I don't. I I otherwise I have not got a clue.

• 1:13:30Speaker 02

  Not a clue.

• 1:13:31Speaker 05

Jack, Timmy, Jane, John and Jack, sir. Okay.

• 1:13:35Christina Pazsitzky?

  How about that?

• 1:13:36Speaker 05

And this is your regular spot, we're in O'Connor's Bar. I'm on Jack's, John, I said.

• 1:13:39Speaker 02

  Oh, we're in O'Connor's Bar.

• 1:13:41Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 1:13:43Speaker 05

I'm over the hole. You moved around a lot. I mean, like I said, I thought.

• 1:13:48Speaker 02

  He did what? I don't, I don't, I'm a bit worried about that one.

• 1:13:53Christina Pazsitzky?

  This guy's, I don't.

• 1:13:54Speaker 02

And there's the horse racing going on in the background.

• 1:13:56Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, yeah, ha.

• 1:13:57Speaker 02

On the television, the horses, the horses.

• 1:14:00Christina Pazsitzky?

  I fucking hate horses.

• 1:14:01Speaker 02

  I know you hate horses.

• 1:14:02Christina Pazsitzky?

  Don't talk about horses.

• 1:14:03Speaker 02

They love, they love, they love the horses.

• 1:14:06Christina Pazsitzky?

I wish they would all fucking die.

• 1:14:07Speaker 02

  They love the horses.

• 1:14:08Christina Pazsitzky?

I wish they would all get murdered systematically.

• 1:14:11Speaker 02

That's an awful thing to say.

• 1:14:12Christina Pazsitzky?

  Well, I don't give a shit.

• 1:14:14Speaker 02

What has a horse ever done to you?

• 1:14:15Christina Pazsitzky?

They've stepped on me, they make bad smells.

• 1:14:18Speaker 02

Well, get out of the way.

• 1:14:19Christina Pazsitzky?

  I don't fucking like them.

• 1:14:20Speaker 02

You have a fart microphone and you're complaining about horses making bad smells.

• 1:14:25Christina Pazsitzky?

That's true. Okay, one last, tell me if you can like decipher what the fuck these two are.

• 1:14:31Speaker 07

From where I was sitting, that looked to me like a terrible goalkeeping error.

• 1:14:35Speaker 02

  Okay, pause.

• 1:14:36Speaker 05

Like you said, it was just like the first game of the season.

• 1:14:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  Okay.

• 1:14:39Speaker 02

This is, this is North London. Uh, this is actually the area of London that I lived in for 30 years.

• 1:14:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 1:14:47Speaker 02

Uh, and, uh, it's Arsenal. And the guy interviewing at the beginning, he's saying, now, the North London accent has become something very, very specific because it has absorbed an awful lot of influences from waves of immigration. The guy doing the interviewing looks to me as though he may be of, uh, British Caribbean background and the guy that's being interviewed looks as though he may be of Middle Eastern extraction, I'm guessing wildly, the guy in the middle is, looks, you know, English, um.

• 1:15:29Speaker 02

And the the the accent has absorbed all those elements. You can hear how

• 1:15:38Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's cool.

• 1:15:38Speaker 02

He he has a very, the the guy on the right, the scarf around his neck, he's got a very, very pronounced North London accent. And you've also a lot of, a lot of Greeks and then Turkish people coming in and they've, they've all brought their own inflections, Indian

• 1:16:01Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's what we're hearing.

• 1:16:03Speaker 02

Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, and it's become very much a soup. So you're getting, you're getting like, look, look to me like a basic goalkeeping error.

• 1:16:11Christina Pazsitzky?

  Well, you gotta hear this.

• 1:16:12Speaker 02

And I'm, I can't quite, I, I need my, I'll, I'll call my daughter. She can, she understands this lingo a bit better than I do.

• 1:16:19Christina Pazsitzky?

  This is so funny.

• 1:16:20Tom Segura?

  You understand?

• 1:16:21Speaker 02

Now, blood. He keeps calling him blood.

• 1:16:25Tom Segura?

  Motivation, blood.

• 1:16:26Speaker 02

Motivation, blood. You hear, hear how that's almost like a Caribbean note in that.

• 1:16:31Christina Pazsitzky?

  Motivation, blood.

• 1:16:34Speaker 02

What's he doing, blood? So blood is like bro.

• 1:16:37Tom Segura?

  What did he do, blood?

• 1:16:39Speaker 02

What did he do, blood? What did he do?

• 1:16:41Tom Segura?

What are they doing in the board, blood? What are they doing? I'm not the only man getting mad, you know, blood. Everyone's mad here, fam. You understand? Bare man come here and waste their money, blood. You understand? Every week, blood. You understand? The most expensive season ticket, blood. We ain't won a London Derby this year, fam.

• 1:16:54Speaker 02

We all want a London Derby this year, blood. That's Arsenal playing Spurs or playing other teams from London.

• 1:17:01Tom Segura?

Who else we done? Who? No one, fam. This team is dead, fam.

• 1:17:04Christina Pazsitzky?

  No one, fam.

• 1:17:06Speaker 02

  Who's done who? Who?

• 1:17:07Christina Pazsitzky?

  I love this show.

• 1:17:09Speaker 02

No one, blood. No one, blood. We come here every week.

• 1:17:12Tom Segura?

Let a man go home and away, blood. Let a man go Europe, fam. For this, blood.

• 1:17:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  Fam.

• 1:17:16Speaker 02

Let a man go Europe. You see, that's, that's like, that's all, that's like a Jamaican

• 1:17:21Christina Pazsitzky?

It's rad. I love it. It's like a patois, right? Is that the word? I don't even know.

• 1:17:25Speaker 02

And it's, it, so it's this, it's this

• 1:17:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's great.

• 1:17:29Speaker 02

But i- it, it is an unimaginable melting pot

• 1:17:33Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:33Speaker 02

in, in London. And, and all those linguistic elements have, have fed, found their way into

• 1:17:42Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's cool.

• 1:17:42Speaker 02

  into the accent.

• 1:17:43Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, it is becoming way more diverse in London. Wow, thank you so much for joining. Also, just know that Doug does these conventions where you can actually talk to him and he's so sweet. You're so kind with your fans and you spend time with people, talking to people, and I think that's lovely. So people can see you at a horror convention?

• 1:18:06Speaker 02

Sure. Where am I gonna be next? In September, I'll be in Albuquerque.

• 1:18:12Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh.

• 1:18:15Speaker 02

I don't have my phone on me, so I can't check the dates to be precise. But in September, I'll be in Albuquerque and also at a convention called Silver Scream, which is in Worcester, Massachusetts.

• 1:18:31Christina Pazsitzky?

  Worcester?

• 1:18:33Speaker 02

  Worcester.

• 1:18:34Christina Pazsitzky?

  Worcester?

• 1:18:36Speaker 02

That's like an hour out of Boston, Worcester. And in October, I will be in Lexington, Kentucky.

• 1:18:49Christina Pazsitzky?

Oh, sexy Lexington. Also, check him out on YouTube. Doug does this great thing where he reads Christmas stories.

• 1:18:57Speaker 02

Well, at Christmas I do. The rest of the year, I don't read.

• 1:19:01Christina Pazsitzky?

Anything which you would all year though.

• 1:19:03Speaker 02

You just want me to read Christmas stories all the time?

• 1:19:05Christina Pazsitzky?

I would love to hear your cool accent. Check him out on YouTube also. I think you should join TikTok.

• 1:19:12Speaker 02

  I read classic horror stories.

• 1:19:13Christina Pazsitzky?

  I love that.

• 1:19:14Speaker 02

It's a thing I've always done. Steph, you know, thinks I'm slightly mad because I'm always reading to myself aloud, but I always.

• 1:19:23Christina Pazsitzky?

  That's fun.

• 1:19:24Speaker 02

I always did that since I was a boy. So it was, you know, kind of a, it was kind of a lockdown thing and it was Sir Patrick Stewart who gave me the kind of idea for it because during lockdown, he did this great thing of reading a Shakespeare sonnet every day and going through Shakespeare's complete sonnet cycle. And he's just sitting in an armchair. See, there's me reading a Halloween story.

• 1:19:48Christina Pazsitzky?

  I love that.

• 1:19:49Speaker 02

  Not just a Christmas story.

• 1:19:50Christina Pazsitzky?

I love that. I want you on TikTok.

• 1:19:52Speaker 02

But the first one is a Christmas story because a pinhead puts his Santa hat on for Christmas.

• 1:19:57Christina Pazsitzky?

  Love that.

• 1:19:59Speaker 02

  So.

• 1:20:02Speaker 02

So those on then, there's also, I recorded a huge cycle of classic horror stories called Spine Chillers, which you can buy at the store on my website, so dougbradley.com/Store. Ignore the website because it's horribly out of date and I'm faintly embarrassed by it. Just go to the store.

• 1:20:26Christina Pazsitzky?

I like it. Is that a severed hand? Yeah, that's cool shit. Hey, man, I like it. Well, awesome. So they can check out your website and find all that stuff. Thank you so much again for coming to Austin.

• 1:20:41Speaker 02

Oh, not at all. Thank you so much. This has been, it's beyond a pleasure.

• 1:20:46Christina Pazsitzky?

It's so fun. It's been so fun and I just want to leave on this.

• 1:20:49Speaker 02

You also have to understand that these are Arsenal fans and, you know, I do seriously think that being an Arsenal fan should be classified as a mental disorder. They're not, they're not, they're not.

• 1:21:03Christina Pazsitzky?

  They're not normal.

• 1:21:04Speaker 02

They're not quite right in the head. They don't perceive reality quite as you and I do.

• 1:21:09Christina Pazsitzky?

They do not. Well, on that note.

• 1:21:11Speaker 02

  They're very troubled individuals.

• 1:21:12Christina Pazsitzky?

I'm so sorry if you're an Arsenal fan. Liverpool, thank you so much. All right, mommies. I, just a quick note, you won't see me for quite a while. I'm gonna have my top surgery tomorrow. I'm so nervous. They're gonna take the fat from my belly and they're gonna make boobs. And, you know, I've had so many pairs of boobs now. I'm like triple trans at this point. I don't know what I'm considered. But next time you see me, I'll have a new rack. I'm gonna go for cute little French girl titties because they still can gain, you can still gain weight because it's your belly fat. But I'll be out for like, gosh, I don't know, maybe six weeks, I hope. So next time.

• 1:21:52Speaker 02

  What happens?

• 1:22:05Christina Pazsitzky?

Will I get big, black tits? I hope so. What if I wake up?

• 1:22:09Speaker 02

Well, only if you've got a big, black belly, presumably.

• 1:22:12Christina Pazsitzky?

What if I'm like, I want big, black ones?

• 1:22:14Speaker 02

  It doesn't mean this.

• 1:22:16Christina Pazsitzky?

Wouldn't that be fun? Or I show her a picture, she's like, because your surgeon's like, what kind of tits do you want? And I actually did find a picture of a black woman. And I was like, but my surgeon's black too. So I didn't want to sound racist and be like, can I just have the boobs, but not the color?

• 1:22:31Speaker 02

Do these come in another color?

• 1:22:33Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, can we do this in a lighter hue? But I really like the shape of these.

• 1:22:39Christina Pazsitzky?

  What?

• 1:22:41Speaker 02

But so won't you have two sort of conical shaped holes in your belly?

• 1:22:47Christina Pazsitzky?

  Oh, no. So what they-

• 1:22:48Speaker 02

  Two boob shaped holes?

• 1:22:49Christina Pazsitzky?

Can we do this real fast and then we'll get out? You gotta see it. It's called the deep flap. D I E P.

• 1:22:54Speaker 02

  I'm sorry, I asked now.

• 1:22:55Christina Pazsitzky?

No, don't be. You're gonna throw up. Hey, I get to horrify pinhead.

• 1:23:02Christina Pazsitzky?

This is a dream. Okay, so pull up like drawings or images of it. This surgery, first of all, it's gonna take two plastic surgeons to do it simultaneously. It's a 10 hour surgery. So they take the fat from my belly, because I don't have tits anymore. There's just bags of, you know, it's just implant because I had a double mastectomy. So they'll take the fat from my belly. They cut, they carve it out like that. God, it's so hell raisery. And then they're gonna put it in my tit. They're gonna rip the skin off of it and put the fat in my boob and then zip it up. And then I'll have a few revision surgeries, I guess. And then they give you a tummy tuck. Sorry. Long story short, they'll sew, they'll tuck my tummy. So I'll have a flat stomach for the first time since I was 12

• 1:23:45Christina Pazsitzky?

years old, which is gonna be really exciting for me. And you don't gain weight in your stomach again because they take out all the fat cells, which is cool. But I can still gain weight in my boobs because it's belly fat. Yeah, there's the live pictures. Does that gross you out? Or are you immune to it because you're pinhead? When you look at those bloody photos?

• 1:24:02Speaker 02

  I don't think it's anything to do with being a pinhead. I'm not. It's, it's, it's staggering.

• 1:24:10Christina Pazsitzky?

  It really is.

• 1:24:11Speaker 02

I'm not grossed out by it, but I had no idea, no idea that this was a thing.

• 1:24:18Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:19Speaker 02

  That's astonishing.

• 1:24:21Christina Pazsitzky?

It's astonishing. And they used, when you had a double mastectomy, they used to just take everything and leave you flat. So now they can spare your nipples, but I, and long story, you don't want to spare your nipples. It's too much of a hassle. Um, they can, so they just put a bag in there and they spared the skin. And then now they can do that. Cause you don't want just an implant with no fat around it. Cause that's what I have right now. And it looks so weird. Just looks like droopy. And no, it looks like Sopranos tits. Like, you know, when you go to the, to his strip club and like, oh, he knows exactly.

• 1:24:55Christina Pazsitzky?

Like those hard two, early 2000 tits. That's what I have right now.

• 1:24:58Speaker 02

The, um, the, the, the baba, bada bing.

• 1:25:01Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, the bada bing. Yeah. It's like I could work at the bada bing. My current set of tits. So I'm gonna get some like naturals again.

• 1:25:09Speaker 02

Well, let me know if you're working at the bada, bada bing.

• 1:25:11Christina Pazsitzky?

  You got it.

• 1:25:12Speaker 02

I'll come and, I'll come and give you some dollar bills.

• 1:25:15Christina Pazsitzky?

Thank you. The oldest stripper with my deep flap cancer tits. How depressing. Got scars and shit.

• 1:25:23Speaker 02

The only white chick in New Jersey with black boobs.

• 1:25:28Christina Pazsitzky?

Come and see me. The only white girl in New Jersey with black boobs.

• 1:25:31Speaker 02

  I think you'll do well.

• 1:25:32Christina Pazsitzky?

  It's so great.

• 1:25:34Speaker 02

  You, and this is tomorrow?

• 1:25:36Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah, dude.

• 1:25:37Speaker 02

You're awfully kind of, what the fuck are you doing talking to me?

• 1:25:41Christina Pazsitzky?

  Blood. Because fam, blood.

• 1:25:43Speaker 02

  Ten hours?

• 1:25:44Christina Pazsitzky?

  Bro, I know, homie. I'm.

• 1:25:45Speaker 02

Blood, what are you thinking, blood?

• 1:25:47Christina Pazsitzky?

Fam, fam, listen, if I'm, if I'm not here talking to you, mate, mate, I'm Australian again. If I'm not, if I'm not here talking to you, I'm home fucking pacing the floors.

• 1:25:58Speaker 02

  No, I know.

• 1:25:59Christina Pazsitzky?

And I don't want to fucking do that, bro. I'd rather be here trying to be funny and getting out of my own head. And then I'll take some Xanax later.

• 1:26:05Speaker 02

  I understand that girl, yeah?

• 1:26:07Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, yeah. Your fucking hell is right, man. I was like Irish. Good again. Fucking hell.

• 1:26:13Speaker 02

No, I was, I was doing Liverpool fucking hell.

• 1:26:16Christina Pazsitzky?

  Fucking hell.

• 1:26:17Speaker 02

  Fucking hell, girl.

• 1:26:18Christina Pazsitzky?

Fucking hell, girl. Got ten hours, ten hours, two surgeons. And it's a microsurgery, so my.

• 1:26:23Speaker 02

Do they, one take over from the other? They can't.

• 1:26:26Christina Pazsitzky?

  They tag team, bro.

• 1:26:27Speaker 02

  They have to.

• 1:26:28Christina Pazsitzky?

  They tag team my tits.

• 1:26:30Speaker 02

  Sharing the driving.

• 1:26:31Christina Pazsitzky?

Yeah, well, one of my top surgeon, she'll do it with like special, I guess, micro whatever goggles. So they can, they can connect the blood vessels. It is wild fam. I know. I know I want to, I want to start an OnlyFans page just so I can show people my deep flapped tits.

• 1:26:50Speaker 02

The only, the only way, the only way that you would really impress Pinhead.

• 1:26:55Christina Pazsitzky?

  Yeah.

• 1:26:55Speaker 02

Would be if you were going to be conscious throughout.

• 1:26:59Christina Pazsitzky?

My suffering would be legendary. Jesus wept.

• 1:27:03Speaker 02

Oh, the pain, the suffering, the sweet, sweet suffering.

• 1:27:09Christina Pazsitzky?

All right, on that note fam, I love you, you're the best. Shout out to Sage, shout out to Steph.

• 1:27:13Speaker 02

  Of course, of course.

• 1:27:15Christina Pazsitzky?

I love you guys. All right, I'll see you next time with my new black tits. Bye, guys.

• 1:27:18Speaker 02

  Bye.

• 1:27:43Speaker 07

You did this, look what you've done. You pushed and pushed and now it's come to this. It's maddening and it's all your fault. You asked for it, so here it is. You deserve it, all the kicks, the screams, the blood. It's all for you, all for you, all for you, all for you. What did you think would happen? Will you walk again, talk again? We hope not. Will I drop it on your head? Can that knife puncture your side? I have a bet, that would like to meet your face. You deserve it all, it's all for you. Your smile does the fools. We watch you fail in the deep water. That's when you grasp for air, we chain it, kick and push. You fight to live, so we push you under again. I tried to make it work, I listened and I gave you chances.

• 1:28:28Speaker 07

But you wanted something else, I filled with glee as your insides filled. This fist is for you, this blade is for you. Now you're too opposed, watch the birds eat away. You pull up in flames, you suffer finally. I did it all for you, all for you, all for you, all for you, all for you, all for you.

• 1:28:59Speaker 05

Would you do it, would you do it, would you do it?

• 1:29:05Speaker 05

That was so good, I love that one.

• 1:29:09Speaker 05

  I'm proud of you.

• 1:29:18Speaker 07

Sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. They can tell I'm sorry, Lucy, I'm just like, huh. My chi is signaling, you should know. My cheeks run red with tears from my eyes. My master is upset and I don't know why. Is it something I did? Is it something I said? Daily shame, embarrass myself, feel they can dread. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Afraid, afraid, afraid. Afraid to be sorry, sorry to be afraid. Wake up, panic. Here's my message, in the lunch I screw up a second. After some love, it all becomes clear. I'm a dumb fucking idiot, but that's a ball, yeah. I'm put upon drops, I won't eat out of a bomb. Those are just two things I knew very wrong. It's not your fault that you wished I would die. I'm just an outsider, don't give shit.

• 1:30:02Speaker 07

Inside, I'm all out of words. Nothing left to do except to apologize. For being an innocent, I'm reading you. I'm sorry, Mr. Tom, I do better, do better, do better, do better.

• 1:30:26Speaker 05

  I'm proud of you.

• 1:30:54Speaker 01
