• 3:47Speaker 05

Best intro. Best intro ever. Best intro ever.

• 3:51Speaker 02

I apologize if I just blew your ears out, Will, but.

• 3:53Speaker 05

No, no. That was soothing. I want to, I'm gonna play that on a loop to fall asleep to.

• 4:00Speaker 05

It's gonna be like a sleep machine for me. Yeah.

• 4:03Speaker 02

We are, if you can't tell, we are jazzed to have you. I gotta, right away, we saw this post on Twitter from the LA Kings, Buddy the Elf is officially in hockey wood. Look at, can we pull this up, Brandon?

• 4:15Travis Kelce?

  This is so good.

• 4:16Speaker 02

What is going, this is not the Buddy Elf I remember.

• 4:18Travis Kelce?

This is just over the weekend.

• 4:19Speaker 02

Buddy Elf has been through some shit. What's?

• 4:24Speaker 05

Buddy the Elf got laid off, I think.

• 4:26Speaker 02

  No.

• 4:27Speaker 05

  From.

• 4:28Speaker 02

  No.

• 4:29Speaker 05

  From the North Pole.

• 4:30Speaker 02

  Sands are not.

• 4:33Travis Kelce?

  Taking a saloon.

• 4:35Speaker 05

Yep. That's. He's having a pull from his beer, smoking a, smoking a cig.

• 4:41Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 4:42Travis Kelce?

  Just having him time.

• 4:43Speaker 05

That was just, I get these weird ideas every now and then.

• 4:47Travis Kelce?

  They're golden, man.

• 4:48Speaker 05

I told my wife, cause we, we were season tickets holders to the LA Kings. We have the.

• 4:53Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 4:53Speaker 05

The seats right on the glass, which were amazing.

• 4:56Speaker 02

  Incredible.

• 4:56Speaker 05

Gosh, over the break, you know what? I, it'd be funny if I just got like a Buddy the Elf costume and didn't shave for like a week. And, uh, and I'm just sitting there with like a candy cigarette. It's just a candy cigarette and I'm just gonna like, sit there for a period and see what, how people react. And that was it. But so reaction was insane. We're like, what is he doing? Is he promoting something? Is, but occasionally I just like to do weird things like that, just to stir it up.

• 5:27Travis Kelce?

  Dude, it's the best.

• 5:28Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 5:29Travis Kelce?

It's the best. Or have you always been a hockey fan? I knew, I know you've been following the Kings for a while now, but.

• 5:33Speaker 05

Yeah, I kinda, I was, uh, I, I, I remember there was, I grew up in Southern California and there was, uh, there was a kid who moved into my neighborhood from Connecticut, who played hockey and we would play street hockey. We would play, this is sad, one on one, one on one, street hockey. Does that even exist?

• 5:52Travis Kelce?

Are you kidding me? This is, this is all me and Jason used to do.

• 5:55Speaker 05

  Oh, okay.

• 5:56Speaker 02

  All grown up.

• 5:57Speaker 05

  Of course.

• 5:57Travis Kelce?

  This is legit.

• 5:58Speaker 05

We'd have ice. So we're just with the little ball and it's running around a parking lot.

• 6:03Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 6:04Speaker 05

And then I, yeah, I was, I, I followed the Kings way back, way back when they had like the triple crown line of Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor.

• 6:13Travis Kelce?

  Ooh.

• 6:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 6:15Speaker 05

  Charlie Simmer. Anyway.

• 6:16Speaker 02

So you've been in it for a while.

• 6:18Speaker 05

So I've been watching, yeah, I've, I've been the, uh. And then they then of course they won a couple of cups and that helped build the audience and now now they now they draw really oh look at that.

• 6:30Travis Kelce?

I got a little Wayne great ski Jason Jason got me this for Christmas.

• 6:33Speaker 05

But did you guys did you guys play hockey as well with everything else you did?

• 6:37Travis Kelce?

Oh yeah, we were that was probably the first one that we both fell in love with. I would have at least for me for sure.

• 6:43Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 6:44Speaker 02

Yeah, no, same. It's a wonderful sport. It's fun. We we both started it. Travis finished in high school playing basketball. I played hockey in high school. We used to play street hockey with that same ball you're talking about.

• 6:56Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 6:57Speaker 02

And one of the elementary schools, Roxboro Elementary, had cut down the basketball hoops.

• 7:01Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 7:01Speaker 02

And you would think this would be a safety issue, but they left like the posts.

• 7:05Travis Kelce?

  They left the posts, yeah.

• 7:06Speaker 02

Hoops down. And if you hit the post, it was a goal. So we played pickup hockey all the time, just trying to hit the post. And that's like how we played. Yeah.

• 7:15Speaker 05

Yeah, it kind of kind of an amazing sport. And I'm not gonna lie to you. There's some beautiful men out there who play hockey. Gorgeous.

• 7:23Speaker 02

As long as they have their teeth in.

• 7:25Speaker 05

Yeah, as long as they have their teeth in.

• 7:26Speaker 02

You know, don't take the dentures out.

• 7:29Speaker 05

But yeah, that was my that was my my latest kind of public stunt.

• 7:34Speaker 02

While we're on the public stunts, we gotta pull up the the the shack in at the Staples. We gotta pull that one up.

• 7:41Travis Kelce?

  That was classic.

• 7:43Speaker 02

Oh, my gosh. Look at that mustache.

• 7:47Speaker 05

Yeah, that was another one. I had friends who gave me a Staples, uh, secure, uh, security guard outfit. And I snuck it into the building and then just pretended to be one of the security guys.

• 8:00Speaker 02

So wait, that was not like the Staples. So Staples was not a part of that one either?

• 8:05Speaker 05

They had no idea. And I was afraid I snuck it in because I was afraid they would stop me and go, where'd you get that uniform? That's contraband. Come with us.

• 8:15Travis Kelce?

  This is the best.

• 8:16Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 8:16Speaker 02

  That's amazing.

• 8:17Speaker 05

I just stood on the yeah, it turns out the other security guys, they were like, dude, I love it. Just don't stand on the court. You're good with us. You're good with us. And then I looked down and Shaq happens to be at the game unbeknownst. I just pick a random game and. I look down and there's Shaq in the corner. He's rolling. He's laughing. So I stand up a couple of times in between the breaks. And then I'm like, what do I, what else do I do with this? I don't know. And then someone taps me on the shoulder and says, you know, during the next break, Shaq's ready to leave the game. Do you want to throw him out? You want to throw him out of the game?

• 9:02Speaker 05

So he, he gave me the idea. He goes, yeah, just come over and then that I escorted him out.

• 9:08Speaker 02

  That is brilliant.

• 9:10Travis Kelce?

  The diesel.

• 9:11Speaker 05

And then we had the biggest laugh and uh,

• 9:14Travis Kelce?

  That is so good.

• 9:15Speaker 05

I was like, I go, I go Shaq, do you know how extraordinary that is that you're allowing me to, to throw you out of an NBA basketball game? He was like, are you kidding me? That is so, uh, and then, and then it was, it was so funny. All the, uh, I found out from one of the heads of the security that he goes, hey, I have to tell you, everyone appreciated the shout out. All the security people appreciate the shout out. And I was like, oh,

• 9:41Speaker 02

That's what I was going for.

• 9:42Speaker 05

Yeah. Actually, I was kind of making fun of you guys. No, it was a shout out. It was a shout out for sure.

• 9:48Travis Kelce?

That is so fucking gold, man. You've done a lot of these. So I gotta know, I've been, I've been just so curious about this. When did you become a DJ? The video of you DJing at the frat party might be one of my favorite. You've, you've now inspired me to want to become a DJ and do exactly what you made that shit look so fucking fun.

• 10:10Speaker 05

I don't know. I don't know if you want to, I don't know if you want to reveal peek behind the curtain or not, but uh, I don't know how to DJ.

• 10:22Speaker 05

Yeah, it was just all set up by my son. And he was like, Dad, can you come? It's parents weekend. Can you come by the fraternity house? And I'll just set it up and you just have to twist knobs and pretend like to push buttons.

• 10:35Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 10:35Speaker 05

So I just acted the part, uh, but I do not, no, that's insane. That's insane. I, I, I still, I still forget that people have, uh, cameras attached to their phones. I, I, I don't know if you guys ever feel that way, but I'm like, I still sometimes. I'm like

• 10:55Travis Kelce?

So good. The fact that you could just turn that switch off, though, man, not not care about it. That's the best. That's the best part. That was that made. I sent that to everybody that I knew.

• 11:04Speaker 05

I shoot it up for 15 minutes and then I went to the football game. I didn't think twice about it. And then Monday it like blows up and I'm thinking, what? Wait, what? Oh, right. All these kids were filming it. Anyway.

• 11:16Travis Kelce?

  So good.

• 11:17Speaker 05

It's just, it's fun to just kind of, I just love kind of doing those kind of out of the box things just to, just to mingle with people and, and uh.

• 11:28Travis Kelce?

Well, we love when you do it too, big dog.

• 11:30Speaker 05

Yeah, for sure. Yeah, thank you.

• 11:32Travis Kelce?

Let's get into your athletic career. Jason, why don't you hit them with it?

• 11:35Speaker 02

You were an athlete growing up, kicker in high school.

• 11:37Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 11:37Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 11:38Speaker 05

  Oh, yes.

• 11:39Speaker 02

So were you, you were a kicker in high school. Did you ever try to play any other position or were you always like, I'm going for the kicker?

• 11:45Speaker 05

Well, let's just say freshman year at University High School in Irvine, California, I dominated.

• 11:54Speaker 02

  Yeah, baby.

• 11:54Speaker 05

Starting free safety and wide receiver.

• 11:57Speaker 02

  Two way player.

• 11:59Speaker 05

  Two way player.

• 12:00Travis Kelce?

  Football guy right here.

• 12:01Speaker 05

  Co-MVP of the football team.

• 12:03Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 12:05Speaker 05

Basketball freshman player of the year, freshman basketball. Then I played, then I played baseball. Um, and it was downhill, downhill from there.

• 12:15Speaker 05

I was, I was six, one and a half as like a freshman.

• 12:18Speaker 02

So you have some height advantage.

• 12:20Speaker 05

Then I think I, I, by the time I graduated, I was six, three. So I only grew an inch and a half more over the next couple of years. But uh, but yeah, I'd never played football and I played a lot of soccer. And I also was, I also was doing, you know, the kicking and then I got called up to I made varsity as a sophomore as a kicker.

• 12:43Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 12:43Speaker 05

They wanted me to play safety too, but I was like, you guys, I weigh a hundred and forty five pounds. I weigh one fifty and I'm not.

• 12:52Speaker 02

  Oh, my gosh.

• 12:53Speaker 05

Something about, I never come, let's just say no one was looking at me for the, for proper tackling form.

• 12:59Speaker 02

  Yeah, sure. Yeah.

• 13:03Speaker 05

Something about putting, getting your head in there. I'd, I'd end up like, my approach looked really good. And then I'd roll to the side and face mask you.

• 13:15Travis Kelce?

I played I played defense one fucking time and it was safety and I saw a guy running at me looking like freaking Eddie George and I made a business decision is what I did. I made a business decision to not go in with the the head, the hands, the proper technique, just going I would I went slide tackle.

• 13:34Speaker 05

I would set up the right way. You're like, oh, he's gonna Farrell's gonna jack someone and then I would go, no, it's okay.

• 13:44Speaker 05

So yeah, I made I was like, you know what? I'll just kick.

• 13:49Speaker 05

I was really hoping actually to be a college kicker. We were a horrible football program. I think we were one, eight, one my senior year.

• 13:59Travis Kelce?

  I can relate.

• 14:00Speaker 05

But I but I was getting those, you know, I was getting those little form letters from, you know, University of Oregon, New Mexico State.

• 14:08Travis Kelce?

New Mexico State. What was your longest field goal? Do you remember?

• 14:12Speaker 05

Forty five, forty five in a game.

• 14:14Travis Kelce?

Ah, in high school. That's big time.

• 14:16Speaker 05

  Fifty, fifty in practice.

• 14:19Travis Kelce?

  You could boot it.

• 14:19Speaker 05

And then I tried walking on at USC. I saw I was I was my freshman year at USC. I saw in the athletic department that they were having a

• 14:28Travis Kelce?

  Tryouts?

• 14:29Speaker 05

Walk on tryouts, right? But it was it was it was it was in the fall. So obviously the team is already set. So like, why not? I showed up and they we weren't allowed to kick on the field that actually had the field goals. It was just a big and I was like, I was like really accurate, but I wouldn't say I was, you know, could boom it. So we just, I think we did. I think it did like five kickoffs and then the guy just blew the whistle. It was like, okay, bring it in.

• 14:58Speaker 05

He was like, okay, huddle up. I'm the special teams coach. We're pretty, we're pretty good. We're pretty good with our kicking situation right now, but you guys want to play scout team? You know, running back or scout and I was like, no, I've heard about scout team.

• 15:14Travis Kelce?

Oh, no. Yeah, no, not in college. In college. That's right. That's when it's no fun.

• 15:20Speaker 05

So that that was the extent of my my college athletic career.

• 15:25Travis Kelce?

It sounds like you you kind of wanted to be an announcer while in college.

• 15:29Speaker 05

Yeah, I went to USC had like at the sports information program. I was it's funny, I

• 15:37Speaker 05

I always wanted to get into comedy, but I kind of grew up in the entertainment industry. My dad's a musician.

• 15:44Travis Kelce?

  Okay.

• 15:45Speaker 05

And had played at, you know, in, in the best of places and in the worst of places. He's a piano player and super talented. And I just saw how unstable the entertainment business is.

• 16:00Travis Kelce?

  Sure.

• 16:01Speaker 05

He would have a job at a, you know, at a, at a nightclub for, for six months to a year. And then, and they'd be like, well, that's over. I'm like, what happened? It was like, nothing. They just said, we're done.

• 16:13Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 16:14Speaker 05

And he'd have to go back out and search and

• 16:17Travis Kelce?

  Man.

• 16:17Speaker 05

Do all this stuff. Um, and so I thought, well, I'm never going to do that. You know, I want to, I want like a real job. I didn't know what that meant, even though I loved comedy. I loved making my friends laugh. I loved watching comedy. I loved, you know, everything about it, but I also love sports and I, I played sports all throughout high school and SC had this program that was, uh, was, was like sports journalism. So I thought, oh, that's a, that's a blending of both. And, you know, SportsCenter had probably just started, uh, let's see, I was in, I graduated in 90. So that was kind of the beginning of ESPN and

• 16:54Travis Kelce?

  During the boom, yeah.

• 16:56Speaker 05

I want to be one of those guys, you know?

• 16:57Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 16:57Speaker 05

And so I graduated and then was trying to get a job, uh, with local cable stations. And, you know, you have to like build a tape and send it out to these small markets to get hired as the, you know, the sportscaster in Yuma, Arizona.

• 17:13Travis Kelce?

  Those tapes gotta be gold.

• 17:15Speaker 05

  I, I, I don't know where.

• 17:17Travis Kelce?

They have to be gold, dude.

• 17:20Speaker 05

I should have held on to them. Uh, but at the same time, I thought, you know what? This itch is not going away. I better scratch it about the comedy thing. So at the same time, I started doing, uh, classes at this, uh, improv theater in Los Angeles called The Groundlings where I had seen tons of people had gone on to sitcoms, to Saturday Night Live, to film and television, performers, writers, directors, everything. I thought, oh, this is they had a school I could I could kind of take all these classes at. And so I kind of was doing both at the same time. And I kind of found my, you know, you got to, as you guys probably know, you got to find your community, you got to find your support group.

• 18:05Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 18:06Speaker 05

And that that place in LA, the Groundlings Cedar was where I felt safe enough to to kind of go for it.

• 18:13Travis Kelce?

  Okay.

• 18:14Speaker 05

And I was there for three years. And and then that spring of spring of 95 was when SNL was doing like a nationwide search for a brand new cast because they knew they were going to let go. It was going to be the last year for like Farley and Sandler and Dana Carvey and and that whole group.

• 18:35Travis Kelce?

  Man.

• 18:36Speaker 05

So yeah, I happened to be at the right place at the right time when they came and watched one of our shows and went through the audition process. And then, yeah.

• 18:43Travis Kelce?

The audition process, dude. We've all seen the audition video. It is the most brilliant.

• 18:50Speaker 05

The cat cat toy on the ground.

• 18:52Travis Kelce?

When I say, how how does that even how do you how do you know that that's going to be the one to get you the job? Like, what the fuck?

• 19:00Speaker 05

Well, here's the thing, because Travis.

• 19:02Travis Kelce?

It doesn't make any sense in my mind.

• 19:03Speaker 05

You've hosted the show, right? You've stood you've stood on that spot where you deliver the monologue.

• 19:08Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 19:09Speaker 05

And your heart is pounding in your chest, right?

• 19:11Travis Kelce?

  Yes, yes.

• 19:13Speaker 05

But you're in front of a full audience that's supportive and there and they want to see you have fun.

• 19:18Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 19:20Speaker 05

I'm on the ground in that studio, playing around like a cat. No one, no one's in like one Michael's purposely had no one in the studio to like create the tension of late night. Tell like he wanted to create the pressure of what it's like to be on Saturday night, like live TV. So I'm in a void, rolling around going, oh, my God, I'm going back to LA. This is not like, because because there's no one laugh, there's no one in the there's no one in the studio. There's just a camera operator and a sound guy.

• 19:57Travis Kelce?

Oh, my gosh. So good. This is so this is one of my favorites.

• 20:05Speaker 05

So it was almost like a prisoner torture technique. I just had to like fight through it.

• 20:11Travis Kelce?

Were there, were there any other audition like, like bits that you had or were you like kind of juggling a few at the time or?

• 20:18Speaker 05

They basically had to do an audition that was anywhere from five to eight minutes long of any of the characters of, of your choice.

• 20:26Travis Kelce?

  Oh, nice. Okay.

• 20:28Speaker 05

So that was one of the did I, I, one of, one of the, I, I did another sketch. I did, I did Harry Carey doing a play reading.

• 20:39Speaker 05

So I did my Harry Carey impersonation and I did, I did this sketch that I think really got me the job, which was, uh, this dad at a barbecue yelling at his kids to get off the shed. And that piece I auditioned with later became the sketch that was in, I did in my very first show.

• 20:59Travis Kelce?

  Oh, that's cool.

• 21:00Speaker 05

  As a cast member. So.

• 21:01Travis Kelce?

That's cool. So they brought that one to life. Nice.

• 21:04Speaker 05

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 21:04Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome, man.

• 21:05Speaker 05

But it was, it was awful. I was like, uh, I had no idea if I did well or not. And you just left going, oh, well, I guess they'll call me.

• 21:14Travis Kelce?

I'll tell you what, Lauren is, he could be a stone cold dude. He can give you absolutely nothing.

• 21:19Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 21:19Travis Kelce?

And I'm sure that, that left you confused as all get out, man. But, um.

• 21:24Speaker 05

He, uh, yeah, he can, he can, uh, it's funny. He's like, he can walk right by you or he can.

• 21:34Speaker 05

Or you can, or you can pump you up. But yeah, it, sometimes, sometimes you don't know where you stand with that guy.

• 21:41Travis Kelce?

Oh, man. The SNL years were, were definitely the beginning of, of our fandom for you, big guy. Who do you remember as like some of your favorite characters on SNL? Like the ones that you really got excited to, to go out there and like perform?

• 21:57Speaker 05

I never imagined that I would get to play the president. Because I wasn't, I wasn't known for doing political impressions or anything like that. So to get to do Bush for that lot, like that was. And and like you know, you're gonna be a go to guy every week.

• 22:16Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 22:17Speaker 05

That was pretty heady. That was pretty. That was really fun.

• 22:22Speaker 05

I loved, you know, I think about like doing the cheerleaders with Sherry O'Terry. Sketches I got to do with with Molly Shannon on a gastyre. We used to do this Bobby and Marty's

• 22:39Speaker 05

sketch where we were like middle school music teachers who would perform and the kids would hate them.

• 22:46Speaker 05

The Robert Goulet sketches were really fun. Neil Diamond.

• 22:52Travis Kelce?

  Neil Diamond.

• 22:54Speaker 05

And Harry Carey. I got to do. I got to do Harry Carey to an audience that maybe didn't know. It was fun because people who knew Harry Carey from the Cubs as an announcer obviously knew who he was. But then other people would go, I love that mad scientist character you do with the crazy white hair. And I was like, well, no, he's a real person. They're like, oh, okay. Well, whatever. It doesn't matter. I think it's so funny. I had a great seven years on the show and I just

• 23:19Speaker 05

there, you know, I'm I'm so lucky to look back and and there was probably, I, you know, I had fun like every single week doing that show.

• 23:26Travis Kelce?

Man, yeah. Seven years is a crazy run, man. You obviously seven years on the show as a as a cast member. But you're you remember the SNL five timers club as well. What's the difference between hosting it and and being a cast member? What's the biggest difference?

• 23:43Speaker 05

Yeah, I think. Honestly, I preferred being a cast member because when you when you host, you all of a sudden, it was much easier to be a cast member and have your your sketch get cut. And be kind of shake your fist, you know, like, ah. But when you're on the other side and you're having a hand in like, oh, I don't want to choose between.

• 24:12Travis Kelce?

  That's tough.

• 24:13Speaker 05

Right? I mean, you've been in that room.

• 24:15Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 24:15Speaker 05

And you probably had some choices where you had two or three funny things that could only go in the one slot. Because there is, there is a lot of thinking that goes into that show. And it's hard like you probably.

• 24:27Travis Kelce?

Everybody was awesome on the cast. So you're sitting there, you're like, I don't want to take her off stage. I don't want to take him off stage. I don't want to take that bit, that bitch, they they kill it in that bit. And I'm just.

• 24:36Speaker 05

And that you're thinking, oh, but I really love doing the one thing. And so I was like, oh, I hated, I hated like determining the fates of who was gonna be in the show and who was not. Also too, you realize like the times I've come back to host,

• 24:53Speaker 05

that thing is, that thing is like a track meet. You forget.

• 24:56Travis Kelce?

It is a machine. It is a well-oiled machine.

• 24:59Speaker 05

Physical shape you're in, comedy shape you're in. And I all of a sudden felt like I was in an NBA basketball game and I, I, the ball just kept hitting me in the face. Like the last time I came to, to host. And I remember, in fact, I remember sitting with Lauren at the after party. And I was like, God, man, Lauren, I can't believe I used to do the show, like not even think twice about doing the show every week. And he was like, I, I, I thought he was gonna give me the, you know, atta boy, like, like, you know, you were, no, you were great. You were wonderful. He was like, no, it's a young man's game.

• 25:41Speaker 05

He didn't, he didn't give me anything. I'm like, was I that bad? It was like, oh, no, no, no. But no, it's a young man's game. I'm like, geez, alright.

• 25:51Travis Kelce?

It, it all rolls fast though, man. It happens so fast. And man, I was, I was the luckiest guy in the world to even get a chance to do it, knowing how big of a, of a fan I was of it and how big of a, you know, opportunity it is.

• 26:04Speaker 05

  Jason, you're next.

• 26:05Travis Kelce?

Jason, Jason, he's been, he's been on the list.

• 26:08Speaker 02

I'm trying my own thing. I, I, I, listen, I was up there able to watch Travis host.

• 26:13Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 26:13Speaker 02

And that was, it's, and we've talked about it before, but it's just so impressive, the amount of people that are involved in that thing and how it all happens. And I couldn't imagine the hosting itself, like, and watching, because I think I got there maybe Thursday, Trav. So I got to watch a little bit of that process of learning it every day. And I was just blown away, absolutely blown away.

• 26:37Speaker 05

It's a real piece of living history in terms of television and in terms of, in terms of like, American comedy. Cause it's, when you're sitting at home and you just, you know, DVR it or turn it on at 11:30, you have no idea during those commercial breaks, that there's a hundred people running around moving those sets. And

• 27:00Speaker 02

  It, it, absolutely.

• 27:02Speaker 05

  It is such a

• 27:04Speaker 05

I I mean, I hope they never cancel that show because I don't think they'll ever do that type of show ever again.

• 27:10Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 27:11Speaker 05

It's just, it's an art form, the way they they they put on that show.

• 27:15Travis Kelce?

  And they have.

• 27:16Speaker 05

And it's surprisingly fu- it's it is surprisingly funny with how many things that can go wrong. And and the fact that they only they write it in a week.

• 27:25Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, it's crazy.

• 27:27Speaker 05

It it it's it's hit or miss for sure, but it but it lands on its feet more often than than not. And it's it's pretty impressive.

• 27:35Travis Kelce?

The whole week, you're seeing the the construction workers putting together sets. And you're just, your your mind is just blown away. And you're just like, what? And then some sets get canceled because they just don't fit in the timeframe. You're just like, what? How do you do this week in, week out? It just blows my mind.

• 27:54Speaker 05

And you really have to have.

• 27:55Travis Kelce?

Want to be a part of it.

• 27:56Speaker 05

You have to have thick skin as a cast member because uh uh I remember uh when I was my first year on the show, Kevin Nealon, uh who I was a big fan of, Kevin Nealon uh came back to to kind of see a show and say hi to us. And uh he it was towards the end of that, my first year on the show. And he was like, you're really funny, like, great job. And I was like, I was like, thanks, man. And he was like, let me give you some advice, like, you don't have to score every week. Just keep that in mind. It's like, if you can look back on a season and count on you, like, if you've done 10 funny things,

• 28:34Speaker 05

then you've had a good year. And uh.

• 28:35Travis Kelce?

  Wow.

• 28:36Speaker 05

So it took the pressure off of like, having to have a great show every week. It's it's like, it's like hitting 300 in baseball, you know? If you you hit 300, you're gonna be in the Hall of Fame. And if you if you could hit, well, 30% might be a little low. But if you could hit uh, if you could be funny 50% of the time.

• 28:56Travis Kelce?

  That's a good, that's a good batting average.

• 28:57Speaker 05

  Yeah, yeah.

• 29:00Speaker 05

So I, I took that to heart, but yeah.

• 29:03Speaker 02

Let me, let me ask you this, cause we are doing, I'm doing this late night thing on ESPN. I just started it and we're trying to incorporate some scripted bits and some funny like, I guess, what do you think is the biggest thing to performing a sketch or comedy live that you wouldn't tell anybody who's just starting out into that world? Cause quite frankly, I've never done anything like this where there's like a live audience and you're trying to do this while it's being recorded.

• 29:28Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 29:29Speaker 02

Forgive me if this is a loaded question, but I re- remiss if I didn't ask you pointedly if there's anything that you can like fast track my ability to be funny on.

• 29:39Speaker 05

  No, you're screwed, man.

• 29:43Travis Kelce?

Sounds like you gotta figure it out, bud.

• 29:45Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 29:46Speaker 05

Yeah. No, you know, I, the thing that I always lived by is because, you know, I, I was like, look, I'm gonna meet, I'm gonna, I'm gonna watch people perform who I think I'm funnier than, I'm also gonna watch people who are way funnier than me.

• 30:07Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 30:07Speaker 05

And I'm gonna have to be okay with that, but, but the one thing no one will ever beat me and, beat me at is how hard I commit to something.

• 30:15Speaker 02

  Sure.

• 30:16Speaker 05

You've got to commit sketch wise to whatever the premise is.

• 30:22Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 30:22Speaker 05

And, and just go for it. And if you lock in that way, all, all the apprehension will just melt away and, and then the audience will be on your side too, because you're, they'll just be like,

• 30:36Speaker 02

  He's going for it.

• 30:37Travis Kelce?

  Dude, this.

• 30:38Speaker 05

Exactly. And hopefully, hopefully it's a funny premise to begin with, but even if it's not, they'll just be like, God, Jason is going for it. I'm on his side. And that's, that's all you need to worry about.

• 30:50Travis Kelce?

  That's brilliant.

• 30:51Speaker 05

And, and, and to not, cause I've seen people, you can't have one foot in and one foot out. Uh, cause then the audience doesn't believe, doesn't believe your intention.

• 31:01Speaker 02

  Absolutely.

• 31:01Speaker 05

And, and so that's, that's just the main thing.

• 31:04Travis Kelce?

Dude, you send it better than anybody, man.

• 31:07Speaker 06

It's said everything happens for a reason, but maybe everything happens for a recess. Take noise cancelling headphones. Do they block hearing to heighten taste? Hmm. That sound seems to show everything happens for a recess.

  I love a water park.

• 32:48Travis Kelce?

But the crazy one, Crown's Edge, a ropes course off the side of the ship, not for the faint of heart, brother.

• 32:57Speaker 02

They've also got Playmaker Sports Bar and Arcade. So that means games on every screen. I love a good arcade sports place.

• 33:17Travis Kelce?

Before we, uh, before we get out of this, uh, SNL bit, we, uh, we, we asked Bill Murray this question and he said Ray Charles, but who is the, the one SNL host that just blew your socks off? Like, man, they, I did not expect this person to be this damn good or this funny or this awesome that you, uh, maybe when you were a cast member.

• 33:36Speaker 05

Just so you know, we asked, uh, Bill Murray this and he said it was Ray Charles because he just really, he was amazed at how well he remembered all of his lines. Oh, my God. Didn't have to use any cue cards. Yeah, we had a similar, we had, uh, I remember Jackie Chan posted with us.

• 33:53Travis Kelce?

  What?

• 33:55Speaker 05

He didn't, he didn't read English.

• 33:58Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 33:58Speaker 05

So we couldn't use the cue card. So we had to do the whole thing memorized.

• 34:02Travis Kelce?

  Jackie Chan.

• 34:03Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. And he was on fire, but there, I, I think there are, um, there are like varying degrees. Uh, like we, I remember, um, one of our best hosts was, uh, Derek Jeter.

• 34:21Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 34:22Speaker 05

He's just committed to everything regardless of how stupid we put him. And also that's how I got to know, that's how I met Shaq for the first time. He came on and did, I think it was Kelsey Grammer was the host, but, but they said, hey, Shaq's in town. He wants to do some sketches. He destroyed. He was so funny and natural to the point where one of his sketches got cut because he had a funnier show than the host.

• 34:50Travis Kelce?

So they had to reel it back.

• 34:52Speaker 05

Yeah, to reel it back. Cause we wrote this sketch where all the cast members were picking on me. And making me cry and and Shaq came up. He's like, what's going on? And I'm like, Shaq, everyone's making fun of me. And he's like, come with me, Will. And we walked to home base there and he picked me up in his arms and we proceeded to sing a duet called, "No one's gonna hurt my little man."

• 35:20Speaker 05

Shaq cradling me. We did this whole, but that got cut and it like destroyed.

• 35:25Travis Kelce?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 35:26Speaker 05

But then I swear there was like, it was a lot of times it was actors that you like Steve Buscemi.

• 35:33Travis Kelce?

  Oh, nice.

• 35:34Speaker 05

Insanely good. I remember a lot of times dramatic actors who were so excited to.

• 35:39Travis Kelce?

You didn't always see him in the comedy world.

• 35:41Speaker 05

Exactly. And, and they, that thing of like, they would just commit to the premise. They weren't even trying to be funny. And it, they subsequently got twice as many laughs.

• 35:52Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I love it. But yeah.

• 35:54Speaker 02

That's amazing. Well, you just remember, you just referenced Billy Bob Thornton and made me think of that Bad Elf at the top of the show. Maybe there's a Bad Elf, Bad Santa remake coming down the line.

• 36:05Speaker 05

Yeah, maybe. Yeah. A lot of people will be, be distraught by that combination. But maybe that's why we need to do it.

• 36:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:15Speaker 05

By the way, speaking of football, I gotta bring something up.

• 36:18Speaker 02

  All right.

• 36:19Speaker 05

I happen to be watching during the holiday break, Travis, you guys, the Pittsburgh game.

• 36:25Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:27Speaker 05

And when you scored, when you scored, did you just have one touchdown?

• 36:31Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I just had one. I just had one.

• 36:33Speaker 05

The one. And I, you went to go dunk the football. You missed the dunk.

• 36:40Travis Kelce?

  I did not dunk.

• 36:41Speaker 05

Yeah, you missed it. You hit the rim. And I, I, I remember, I remember thinking, oh, I want to bring that out. I know I'm going to be talking to you guys. I'm like, God, Travis. He doesn't have the same hops.

• 36:52Travis Kelce?

  I don't, I don't have the ups anymore.

• 36:55Speaker 05

The football just kinda hit the bar and just spilled over. But you still tried to celebrate like I just dunked it. I was like, no, no, no.

• 37:04Travis Kelce?

I gave him my, I gave him my best Tony Gonzalez. He was known, he was known for dunking. And I had just, I had just eclipsed his touchdown record.

• 37:13Speaker 05

Yeah, maybe, maybe finger roll next time.

• 37:15Travis Kelce?

I should have. What I did was I, you remember when you, when you first started trying to dunk and you would just go up and smack the backboard? That's kinda what I was doing right there. It really, it wasn't a full dunk. Uh, maybe if I get the, if I get it earlier in the game, I might be able to, the explosive.

• 37:31Speaker 05

I have been thinking about that since that moment. I've really been stewing on that.

• 37:36Travis Kelce?

Nice. Well, I've been, I've been thinking people might've forgot about it. Well, perfect.

• 37:40Speaker 02

Before we move on, I gotta ask this. Have you ever dunked, Will? Can you dunk? Could you dunk?

• 37:47Speaker 05

Uh, I remember having like a breakaway and I was like, I'm gonna dunk this.

• 37:54Speaker 05

The ball slipped out of my hand. I got right here. I got like rim.

• 37:59Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:00Speaker 05

And then the ball just fired off the backboard. And, uh, coach was like, what was that? I was like, you told me, try to dunk it if I have a break. He's like, okay.

• 38:11Speaker 05

I could dunk a tennis ball, but now.

• 38:14Speaker 02

  Not a basketball?

• 38:14Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 38:15Speaker 02

Yeah. My, Travis has seen me, no joke, over an hour in a gym.

• 38:20Travis Kelce?

  At least.

• 38:22Speaker 02

Just trying. Trying to dunk, repeatedly thinking I'm getting closer and repeatedly failing.

• 38:30Travis Kelce?

If I just get the technique right, I can do it.

• 38:32Speaker 02

I'm there. I'm right there. It's gonna happen.

• 38:35Travis Kelce?

I know. You're 310 pounds. You're not going to dunk the ball. Gravity is working against you.

• 38:41Speaker 05

  Exactly.

• 38:42Speaker 02

All right. Let's, uh, let's get to this segment. We're gonna try this out. Uh, this is the Will Ferrell character football draft. All right.

• 38:49Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 38:50Speaker 02

So we're, we're gonna try and attempt to draft a football team with your characters. We're gonna have you do this. We got round one. We're gonna do quarterback. So if we're picking a Will Ferrell character, what character would be the quarterback of this football team?

• 39:05Speaker 05

I think the quarterback, uh, not that he would necessarily.

• 39:10Speaker 05

Not necessarily he'd be good, but he'd be very commanding would be Ron Burgundy.

• 39:16Travis Kelce?

Yeah. You know it. Yeah. You know, Ron's he's commanding.

• 39:20Speaker 05

He's commanding. He'd get the plays wrong. He'd call the wrong cadences. Yeah, he'd he'd he'd mess up constantly, but he blames someone else.

• 39:32Travis Kelce?

Yeah. It's been a fun ride.

• 39:35Speaker 02

We got double way right. Dorothy Mantooth on two. Dorothy.

• 39:38Speaker 05

  Exactly.

• 39:41Speaker 05

  Baxter left.

• 39:45Travis Kelce?

  So good.

• 39:46Speaker 05

Go right. Swordfish. Ron, that's not a play. Yes, it is. Let's run it.

• 39:53Travis Kelce?

  It is now.

• 39:54Speaker 05

  It is now.

• 39:55Travis Kelce?

Second round, we're going running back. Who you got for running back?

• 39:59Speaker 05

Running back with Pro, I would, I'm gonna say Frank the Tank from Old School.

• 40:03Speaker 02

  The Tank, dude.

• 40:04Travis Kelce?

Just a ground and pound tank. You know it.

• 40:06Speaker 05

Because he's got that name, the Tank. He's gonna break some down. He's also going to be inebriated enough to where he won't feel any pain.

• 40:14Speaker 02

That was my next question. Is he inebriated in this?

• 40:16Speaker 05

  Yeah, he's definitely. He's definitely.

• 40:20Travis Kelce?

He's gonna be streaking all night if you give him some beers.

• 40:23Speaker 05

Well, yeah, he may try to take a couple of plays fully naked. Yeah. Yeah.

• 40:30Speaker 02

That nobody wants to tackle him.

• 40:31Speaker 05

  Right.

• 40:32Speaker 02

Man, he just, great strategy for it.

• 40:37Speaker 05

He's untouched into the end zone.

• 40:42Travis Kelce?

  So good.

• 40:43Speaker 02

All right, round three. Wide receiver.

• 40:46Speaker 05

Maybe because he's, uh, he's kind of, I think he's, he's, I would say very flexible and live. The word live, Buddy, I'd say Buddy the Elf.

• 41:00Speaker 02

  Buddy the Elf.

• 41:01Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 41:02Speaker 02

I could have swore you were gonna go Chaz Michael Michaels, like jumping up.

• 41:05Speaker 05

Oh, okay. Leaping over the middle beautifully. Yeah, Chaz Michael. Okay, that's a better, that's a better.

• 41:15Speaker 02

I like Buddy the Elf. I'm not, I'm not.

• 41:17Speaker 05

  That's a better call. That's a better call.

• 41:19Speaker 02

Buddy the Elf, just the happiest disposition ever. Why does he was eat a lot of candy too?

• 41:25Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, they do.

• 41:27Speaker 05

  Skittles.

• 41:27Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 41:28Travis Kelce?

  I'm telling you.

• 41:29Speaker 02

Uh, round four, who's a coach?

• 41:31Speaker 05

Coach would, you know, cause I think he, he probably did. I'd, I'd say Jackie Moon from semi pro.

• 41:37Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 41:39Speaker 05

Cause he was a player coach.

• 41:41Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 41:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's a good one.

• 41:42Speaker 05

He was, he, he had to run it all.

• 41:44Travis Kelce?

  Perfect.

• 41:44Speaker 05

And, uh, he knows how to, he knows how to manage people.

• 41:51Speaker 02

Owner, where are we thinking? Round five owner? Who's the owner of this football team?

• 41:55Speaker 05

I don't know if he's the right owner, but I, I just haven't, I, I, I forgot to throw him in, but let's just say Ricky Bobby's the owner.

• 42:02Travis Kelce?

  Dude.

• 42:03Speaker 02

  It's an electric.

• 42:04Travis Kelce?

You already know. He's running, he's running the show, dude.

• 42:08Speaker 02

That'd be the best, uh, the best hail Mary, our baby who art in heaven.

• 42:13Speaker 05

Yes, he would, he would lead the team in the baby Jesus prayer before every game, whether they wanted to or not.

• 42:21Travis Kelce?

  Sweet baby Jesus.

• 42:23Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah. No, Ricky Bobby, he'd be, he'd be a good owner. He's got like kind of a little Jerry Jones in him. Probably.

• 42:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 42:32Speaker 05

  For sure.

• 42:32Speaker 02

  Pals. They're definitely friends.

• 42:35Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 42:36Travis Kelce?

How about, have you seen the clip of Jerry Jones, uh, with the chops? He's a, he's acting now. He's in a TV show.

• 42:43Speaker 05

  No.

• 42:44Travis Kelce?

Yeah. I was actually, I was actually pretty surprised. I was like, man, he's speaking kind of better than what, uh, as in the interviews he gets.

• 42:53Speaker 05

Wait, what show is he in?

• 42:54Travis Kelce?

This is a good question. I don't know. I've only, I only came across it, uh, Landman with Billy Bob Thornton.

• 43:00Speaker 05

  Oh, Landman.

• 43:01Travis Kelce?

  Yeah. So you're definitely.

• 43:04Speaker 05

One of those Paramount plus shows.

• 43:07Travis Kelce?

  You know it.

• 43:08Speaker 05

I actually watched, uh, some soccer on Paramount plus.

• 43:10Travis Kelce?

The old football, huh? What's, you got it? You got a, you got a premier team that you root for or?

• 43:15Speaker 05

I don't really, but I, I'm part of the, uh, a, a small part of the ownership group of, uh, uh, Leeds United, which is the second division.

• 43:25Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 43:26Speaker 05

Uh, and so I've been out to him to one of their matches, which was awesome. And, uh, so I'll, I'll keep tabs. On them.

• 43:33Travis Kelce?

Heck, yeah, I see. I see you had a lot of sporting events. Is that is that like your your kind of like your hobby? You just you just love you love to get some.

• 43:40Speaker 05

  Is it kind of pathetic?

• 43:41Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 43:41Speaker 05

  Pathetic, right?

• 43:42Travis Kelce?

I'm I'm like living through you when I see you at the I'm like, dude, I want to do what Will's doing.

• 43:46Speaker 05

I've got way too many tickets.

• 43:48Travis Kelce?

Let alone the baseball, the baseball bit you did where you played all the at all the teams and everything.

• 43:53Speaker 05

Yeah. Um, no, we have because we're part of the LAFC soccer team out here in LA, which is MLS. We're part of that ownership group, too. So we go to those games.

• 44:03Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 44:04Speaker 05

I have tickets to the Lakers every now and then, uh, the Kings, USC football. And somehow in the year that they won the World Series, I went to zero Dodger games.

• 44:17Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 44:19Speaker 05

The one year I should have gone.

• 44:21Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 44:21Speaker 05

Oh, no, I went to one. I went to one.

• 44:23Travis Kelce?

  No way.

• 44:24Speaker 05

I know. We we we go to a lot of sports, but I mean, I I sports is a huge part of my life. It was it was kind of the way.

• 44:33Speaker 05

And I'm sure I know you guys can relate to this. It was the way I was able to make friends. It was the way. It just I loved playing team sports.

• 44:42Speaker 02

Yeah, I mean, maybe it's something where athletes just want to do comedy and comedians just want to go to sports because I went to a UCB out in LA. I went to operate Citizens Brigade. Uh, yeah, it was so much fun. It is amazing watching people in improv. Just take something from nothing and make something funny instantaneously. It is so impressive.

• 45:01Speaker 05

They're an incredible group. UCB is is is one of the best.

• 45:05Travis Kelce?

  Right on.

• 45:06Speaker 02

We have an idea here for this next bit. Trav, do you want to explain it?

• 45:09Travis Kelce?

Yeah, we got relationship advice voicemail. So something we do on the show is answer voicemails from our fans. And we've asked them to call in asking for relationship advice because who doesn't want to hear relationship advice from a couple of knuckleheads? Would you like to help us on these?

• 45:25Speaker 05

  Well, sure.

• 45:26Travis Kelce?

You want to jump in? Let's do it, man. Here's the here's the thing. You could answer some of these questions as one of one of your characters, maybe?

• 45:33Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 45:33Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 45:35Speaker 02

Yes. Oh, I'm so excited. Brandon?

• 45:38Travis Kelce?

  Brandon.

• 45:39Speaker 05

  Uh oh, Brandon.

• 45:40Speaker 04

Hey Travis. Hey Jason. Big Chiefs fan. Three peak coming. Just wanted to know your advice for a first day. When you should know those red flags and when to look for the green flags. Go Chiefs.

• 45:54Travis Kelce?

  Red flags, green flags.

• 45:56Speaker 02

When to look for the red flags, when to look for the green flags?

• 45:59Speaker 05

  Ah, that's.

• 46:03Speaker 05

Uh, let's see Ricky Bobby would say, look, I, I don't know anything about red flag or green flag. Uh, you just gotta, you just gotta get yourself into a position to look for the checkered. Because, I mean, there's only one thing you need to worry about. Cause I mean, if you ain't first, you're last. Yeah, baby. I would just tell that young lady to look for the checker flag.

• 46:35Travis Kelce?

You gotta, you gotta find your way to the finish line, guys.

• 46:41Speaker 05

I don't know if that's good advice or bad. It sounds like bad advice.

• 46:45Travis Kelce?

I think it's kind of metaphorically, it makes sense. You gotta find your way to the finish line. You know? I loved it, man. That shit was fucking gold.

• 46:54Speaker 05

That was so good. So good.

• 46:56Travis Kelce?

That could have gone any better. All right. Here we go. Next one. What we got?

• 47:00Speaker 04

All right. Jason and Travis. So what do I do whenever I bought this girl tickets to a concert for Christmas? And she dumped me the week before. Now her best friend wants to go with me. Do I take her or no?

• 47:18Travis Kelce?

Do you take the best friend after the tickets you bought for your girlfriend? She dumped you.

• 47:24Speaker 05

Wait, I wanna, I wanna make sure I understand. Do you take the best friend of the girl?

• 47:29Travis Kelce?

Yes. Yes. So, so the girlfriend dumped him and now the best friend wants to go with?

• 47:34Speaker 05

Well, Ron Burgundy would say, of course you take the best friend. Because you teach that young lady a lesson. You're not going to be some horse's ass. You've spent $1,200 going to a, I don't know, whatever concert, whatever music you listen to nowadays. I don't know if it's Kaja Gugu or Duran Duran or whatever it is, but you send, you send a, you send a signal to that young lady that you're not messing around.

• 48:06Travis Kelce?

  You moron.

• 48:10Speaker 05

You take photos of you and the best friend making out and send it back to the, to the old girlfriend and say, that's how I do it.

• 48:20Travis Kelce?

That's how you roll right there, baby.

• 48:24Speaker 05

That was fucking gold, man. So good.

• 48:26Travis Kelce?

That's why you're the greatest of all time, dude.

• 48:28Speaker 05

  Oh my goodness.

• 48:29Travis Kelce?

Oh man. Do we got one more in us? You want to do one more?

• 48:34Speaker 02

We can move on to Will.

• 48:36Travis Kelce?

  That was gold.

• 48:37Speaker 02

  That was so good.

• 48:38Travis Kelce?

I think, I think we're good to roll, man. Let's, let's get this thing going.

• 48:42Speaker 02

We end all the conversations with, we gotta ask, you don't have to answer. We got a bunch of questions we're just gonna rat- rattle off at you. Ready to go?

• 48:50Speaker 05

  Okay, ready. Lightning round.

• 48:52Speaker 02

Lightning round, baby. That's right. You could be, feel free to tell us to fuck off. All right, here we go.

• 48:56Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 48:56Speaker 02

Before you made it, what was your worst job?

• 48:59Speaker 05

Uh, definitely a bank teller. I was a bank teller.

• 49:03Travis Kelce?

  Hmm.

• 49:03Speaker 02

  That's our mom was.

• 49:06Travis Kelce?

That's she was, she started off with the bank telling, worked her way up to some, some, some higher up positions. But yeah, she started off as a teller.

• 49:13Speaker 05

Customers would actually complain as to how bad I was. So I'd break out in flop sweat. Your mom can relate to it. When you're starting out, you're handling people's money. It was awful.

• 49:24Travis Kelce?

That's too funny. As long as your register wasn't short, you're good, man.

• 49:29Speaker 05

I was short like my first two days out. I, I, I wasn't pocketing the money.

• 49:33Travis Kelce?

  That's crazy.

• 49:34Speaker 02

Excuse me, manager, manager, I'm trying to deposit money and your teller is like playing with a ball of yarn and he won't respond to me?

• 49:45Speaker 05

What's wrong with this guy? In fact, I remember I was putting up flyers in the break room to try to get people to come to my standup comedy show.

• 49:56Travis Kelce?

  Oh.

• 49:57Speaker 05

And I was so quiet as a bank teller because I was so nervous all the time. And I had this manager go, I saw your flyer.

• 50:06Speaker 05

You do standup comedy? And I go, yeah. She's like, I'd like to see that.

• 50:15Travis Kelce?

You're a father of three. What is the, uh, secret to being a cool dad?

• 50:19Speaker 05

The secret, uh, to being a cool dad? I think constantly lovingly make fun of them.

• 50:28Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 50:28Speaker 02

  Love that.

• 50:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 50:29Travis Kelce?

  Humiliation.

• 50:30Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 50:30Travis Kelce?

  It's the best.

• 50:33Speaker 02

Why, why don't they make R rated comedies anymore?

• 50:36Speaker 05

I think they do. Actually, I have one coming out.

• 50:39Speaker 02

  Here we go.

• 50:40Speaker 05

  This month.

• 50:41Speaker 02

  Here we go.

• 50:42Speaker 05

  Cordially invited on Amazon.

• 50:44Speaker 02

  Perfect.

• 50:44Speaker 05

Uh, which is a, which is like an old school, R rated fantastic movie. Reese Witherspoon and I are, we have two competing weddings booked at a destination, uh, location and we have to kind of duke it out to see who's going to be the wedding that gets to take place. But, um, yeah, I, I, it's an interesting time. I think people are making it. I just, I don't know why they're not kind of going to the theaters to see them. And I think we have, I think we kind of have so many options now that a lot of people are, would, you know, would rather go, oh, I'll just, I'll just catch that at home.

• 51:25Travis Kelce?

Yeah. There's nothing like going to the theater though, man.

• 51:27Speaker 05

I know. It's when you sit and watch a comedy with an audience, you're reminded as to how much more fun it is.

• 51:34Speaker 02

  Right.

• 51:34Speaker 05

I'm trying, trying to get that back.

• 51:36Travis Kelce?

I'll happily see, see this new one in theaters for you, bud.

• 51:39Speaker 05

Even though it's not in theaters.

• 51:40Speaker 02

  It's on Amazon.

• 51:41Travis Kelce?

  It's not.

• 51:44Speaker 02

We'll go rent a movie theater out.

• 51:48Speaker 05

  Yes. Okay.

• 51:51Travis Kelce?

I'm calling everyone in the neighborhood. They're coming over.

• 51:53Speaker 02

You're cordially invited to watch Cordially Invited at the movie theater with us.

• 52:00Travis Kelce?

Is there one idea for a movie that, uh, you haven't gotten to make yet?

• 52:03Speaker 05

  Oh, gosh.

• 52:03Travis Kelce?

Because you want to steal it.

• 52:05Speaker 05

Yeah. I, you know what? I'm going to, I'm going to pass on that because I'm afraid you guys will steal it.

• 52:09Speaker 02

No, no, no. We want to do something like that.

• 52:11Speaker 05

No, I don't trust you guys. I don't trust you. No, I don't know. I don't, I, I, I am, uh, I'm trying to think, uh, uh, if there's anything, uh, I, I, it's funny. Ideas usually popping in my head in the most random way. Uh, but, uh, But no, I don't have an exciting answer to that. Sorry.

• 52:32Speaker 02

Let me ask you this. When, when do you know an idea is ready to be made a movie? Cause I would imagine you think about stuff constantly.

• 52:40Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 52:40Speaker 02

Like, how do you know when it's like, okay, I'm gonna make this movie about an anchorman named Rod? Like, where does that even like, at what point are you like, yeah, this could become a full motion picture?

• 52:51Speaker 05

Yeah, I, I think it's, I think you just get a sense of something that, you know, if it's an idea that you can kind of spit out in a sentence.

• 53:04Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:04Speaker 05

Then it's got a good chance. Uh, you know, it's like, you know, I remember when we were, we were pitching Anchorman, which at the time we got rejected. I think we got like rejected 20 different times from various studios and.

• 53:19Speaker 02

  It just blows my mind.

• 53:21Speaker 05

Like, no one could kind of wrap their hand around, head around an ensemble comedy that took place in a newsroom. They, they kept hearing the news part and we're like, no, no, it's going to be, you know, Austin Powers wasn't about us, wasn't about the spy game. It was about a really funny character.

• 53:38Speaker 02

  Right.

• 53:39Speaker 05

Our characters are gonna be funny. And then I remember, I remember thinking, gosh, this is so hard to get off the ground. We should maybe pick a topic that everyone's talking about. And at that time NASCAR was at its height and I was like, for instance.

• 53:51Speaker 02

  Gosh.

• 53:52Speaker 05

What, what if I'm just me as a NASCAR driver? And, and we pitched, we sold that in like two seconds.

• 54:01Speaker 02

  That's crazy.

• 54:02Speaker 05

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if there's an exact formula for it, but it's just something that, that I think grabs the people who have to pay for it.

• 54:09Speaker 02

  There you go.

• 54:10Travis Kelce?

  There we go.

• 54:10Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 54:11Travis Kelce?

What was your, uh, what's your welcome to Hollywood moment? We all have a welcome to NFL moments that just, I don't know, it's usually a big hit or somebody that we're extremely, you know, fond of or were big fans of growing up that we're finally going up against. What was your, what was your welcome to Hollywood moment?

• 54:27Speaker 05

I mean, one of, one of my welcome to Hollywood moments was getting to be the first.

• 54:35Speaker 05

Uh, the first member of a brand new cast on Saturday Night Live and I got to say the first, the first lines of our, our opening show and I'm sitting there and they're counting down the show and I'm looking out.

• 54:50Travis Kelce?

  That's crazy.

• 54:51Speaker 05

My folks are in the audience and friends and family and I'm like, I can't believe I'm here and I'm about to, I'm about to say whatever line, uh, which, uh, a little trivia here, I mess up my line. The first time I speak on camera on the show, I flub it.

• 55:10Travis Kelce?

  No way.

• 55:11Speaker 05

Because I felt, and, and you know, Travis, you know how you do the full dress rehearsal? And then by the time you do the live show, you're like, piece of cake. I got it.

• 55:18Travis Kelce?

  I got it. Yeah.

• 55:20Speaker 05

But all, and so I did the dress rehearsal. I was like, this is gonna be great. But I'm sitting there in the chair and the enormity of the moment hits me and I start to get a little bit emotional thinking about, wow, this is the thing I've always dreamed about. And then it was like five seconds and then I had to do my line. I was like,

• 55:44Speaker 05

and I was like, ah, and Lauren came back. He's like, are you okay? I'm like, I'm fine. I'm fine. I just, I don't know what happened. So.

• 55:52Travis Kelce?

  Did you have a stroke?

• 55:54Speaker 05

Yeah, exactly. It was, it was incredibly uplifting and incredibly grounding all at the same time. It was like, don't ever take anything for granted. And yet I can't believe I'm here.

• 56:06Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome.

• 56:07Speaker 02

Hypothetically, you see two guys that look like us coming at you on the sidewalk. What movie do you think we're going to quote at you?

• 56:15Speaker 05

You guys are gonna say, you're my boy, Blue.

• 56:18Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 56:21Speaker 02

  Old school.

• 56:23Speaker 05

You're gonna go old school, I think. Or you might, you might say milk is a bad choice. I don't know.

• 56:31Travis Kelce?

  Dude.

• 56:31Speaker 02

  If it's a hot day, I'm definitely.

• 56:36Speaker 02

I was in Wisconsin and I had a whole wheel of cheese. I'm like, whole wheel of cheese. I'm not even upset. Yeah.

• 56:44Speaker 05

Milk was a bad choice. By the way, I improvised that because I was literally trying to tell the director in that moment. Like, why did you give me a carton of milk as we're shooting in LA on like a 98 degree day? And I literally was like, milk was a bad choice. Cause I'm like, I'm having to drink hot milk in this scene.

• 57:03Travis Kelce?

That's the worst, the fucking worst. You were spot on with that one.

• 57:08Speaker 02

This isn't on this, but do you ever get tired of people quoting your movies? Like, are you like, yeah, I get it. Like, it's gotta happen just constantly.

• 57:17Speaker 05

I wouldn't say, uh, yeah, I mean, there's sometimes there's, there are moments where, uh, I'm getting this weird kick here. Sorry.

• 57:28Travis Kelce?

  Got nice, got a nice.

• 57:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 57:29Travis Kelce?

  It's coming in real nice.

• 57:32Speaker 05

  Wow. That's nice.

• 57:36Speaker 05

I don't know how to fix this.

• 57:40Speaker 05

Well, whatever. Here we go. I'm gonna sit like this. We're rolling.

• 57:47Speaker 05

Yeah, sometimes, sometimes someone, something and you're just like, you're like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you. Yeah, I did. Yeah, I said that. And, uh, most of the time it's, it's fantastic. But then there's about 20% of the time where I don't pick it, pick up the cue.

• 58:06Travis Kelce?

Oh, wow. I mean, it's a lot of fucking classics that you've been in. So I get it.

• 58:12Speaker 05

Someone yelled at me, uh, why are you so sweaty? And I go, oh, because I was just on a bike ride. He's like, no, some Step Brothers.

• 58:25Speaker 05

After the drum set, why are you so sweaty? I was supposed to say, because I was watching Cops. Like, oh, right. Sorry. And she got so pissed and walked away.

• 58:33Travis Kelce?

  That's fucking.

• 58:34Speaker 02

  Ruined it for me.

• 58:35Speaker 05

I've ruined it. So I do ruin it for a lot of people because I don't, I don't pick up my cue.

• 58:42Travis Kelce?

  That's funny as shit.

• 58:43Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 58:44Travis Kelce?

What, um, what's your comedy Mount Rushmore throughout your life? Who, who are you? Who's your top four? You're throwing on your Mount Rushmore.

• 58:52Speaker 05

I'm gonna put, uh, Steve Martin.

• 58:55Travis Kelce?

  Nice.

• 58:56Speaker 05

I'm gonna put, uh, I'm probably gonna put Bill Murray up there.

• 59:00Travis Kelce?

  Yep. Legend.

• 59:01Speaker 05

  I'm gonna put Eddie Murphy.

• 59:04Travis Kelce?

  So good.

• 59:05Speaker 05

And let's just say the original, original cast of Saturday Night Live.

• 59:10Travis Kelce?

Nice. Yeah. Throw them all over there. That counts. Hell yeah.

• 59:13Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's great.

• 59:14Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome, man.

• 59:15Speaker 02

I love that list. Do you have an actor you've wanted to work with that you haven't yet?

• 59:20Speaker 05

  Steven Seagal.

• 59:21Speaker 02

  Shut up.

• 59:28Speaker 02

That would be the funniest goddamn thing.

• 59:32Travis Kelce?

  I don't know. I don't know.

• 59:33Speaker 02

  Doing something totally unexpected.

• 59:36Speaker 05

  That would be, yeah, exactly.

• 59:39Travis Kelce?

I don't know why. I just pictured you dressed up with the slick back as Steven Seagal. I don't know why that's what popped in my head.

• 59:49Speaker 05

I don't even think we could track him down. I don't know where he is on planet Earth these days, but uh,

• 59:55Speaker 05

I mean, I'd love to do something weird with like, like an actor like Daniel Day Lewis.

• 1:00:03Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:00:04Speaker 02

Just gets really enthralled and into it.

• 1:00:06Speaker 05

Exactly. Try to get him to do like a, like something weird. Yeah.

• 1:00:11Travis Kelce?

  That's fun.

• 1:00:11Speaker 02

What about the best sporting event you've ever been to?

• 1:00:14Speaker 05

Oh my gosh. I'm going to say two. I'm going to say the Women's World Cup final at the Rose Bowl.

• 1:00:22Travis Kelce?

  Ooh.

• 1:00:23Speaker 05

  Uh, for women's soccer.

• 1:00:25Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 1:00:25Speaker 05

Where they find, they beat China. They finally won the, the women's world. It's the famous Brandy Chastain taking the top off. Yeah. That was incredible. And then I'll say, even though my team lost the game, the, uh, national championship game, again, at the Rose Bowl, USC, Texas.

• 1:00:45Speaker 02

  Two thousand and five.

• 1:00:46Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:00:47Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:00:48Speaker 05

That was an amazing back and forth.

• 1:00:50Speaker 02

It's a great game. You just made.

• 1:00:52Speaker 05

Whoever had the team, the ball last was going to win that game and that time just ran out, but.

• 1:00:57Speaker 02

You have no idea how, his microphone is muted, but our head producer, our interim Brandon, our head producer.

• 1:01:05Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:01:05Speaker 02

Is the biggest Longhorns fan you've ever met in your life.

• 1:01:09Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 1:01:09Speaker 02

He is screaming like a child off camera right now.

• 1:01:13Speaker 05

He's going to lay into me right now. Sure.

• 1:01:16Travis Kelce?

It's the reason he went to Texas, I believe, is because they won that game.

• 1:01:19Speaker 05

And I sat at, in the same row with Matthew McConaughey.

• 1:01:24Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:01:25Speaker 05

And his buddy. And they wanted to talk shit the whole get like every time Texas, you know,

• 1:01:31Speaker 02

  Of course.

• 1:01:31Speaker 05

Like Texas guys love to be like, okay, here we go. And then they can score right away. I'd be like, what?

• 1:01:39Speaker 02

  What happened? What happened?

• 1:01:40Speaker 05

  Yeah, what happened?

• 1:01:40Speaker 02

  What was that?

• 1:01:41Speaker 05

And it was so back and forth, but I have to say at the end of that game, everyone just shook hands.

• 1:01:47Speaker 02

Oh, it was the one of the best ever.

• 1:01:49Speaker 05

We just watched one of the, yeah. So anyway, but I've been lucky. I've been to a bunch of fun stuff, but those two pop into my head.

• 1:01:55Speaker 02

Yeah, that that game Vince Young's like performance towards the end of it, especially like he was just, it was like

• 1:02:00Speaker 05

  Crazy.

• 1:02:01Speaker 02

Yeah, it was like somebody just caught fire and like could not be stopped.

• 1:02:05Speaker 05

And there is a classic photo of Vince Young scoring that last touchdown.

• 1:02:13Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:02:14Speaker 05

And one of the SC cheerleaders jumping up in the air thinking it was SC that had scored.

• 1:02:20Speaker 02

  No, really?

• 1:02:23Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:02:24Speaker 02

Oh, I need to look at this. I have not seen that. That's amazing.

• 1:02:27Travis Kelce?

You gotta know who's got the ball.

• 1:02:28Speaker 05

She, no, she, she was not the sharpest tool in the shed.

• 1:02:34Travis Kelce?

Becca, I'll tell you, I've been to the Rose Bowl one time since he played a UCLA out there. When I tell you it is one of the coolest atmospheres, like I can only imagine that place packed to the T for that game and seeing highlight after highlight after highlight for the biggest game of the year. Man, I can only imagine what that felt like, man.

• 1:02:54Speaker 05

Both those teams with guys who went on to the league like on both sides of the ball. And, uh, uh, yeah, it was, it was an insane environment. Yeah.

• 1:03:04Travis Kelce?

  So cool.

• 1:03:05Speaker 05

  Crazy.

• 1:03:05Speaker 02

Well, shout out to my former teammate Vince Young. Awesome game. And shout out to you, Will. I mean, listen, before we end this, we always give our guests. Do you have any questions for us? Like, or do you just like, want to go and go about your day? That's fine, too. I don't want to put you on the spot.

• 1:03:21Speaker 05

Let's see, what time is it?

• 1:03:26Travis Kelce?

You got the sun hunting you down over there.

• 1:03:28Speaker 05

I know. I'm trying to, I'm trying to help your producers out here by not getting blasted by the sun. I do have a question for you guys. How much, how do you compare? Doing, getting to do things like this, like obviously you, you, you live, you're living out, you got to be pro athletes, this thing you dreamed about your whole life.

• 1:03:49Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:03:50Speaker 05

Now getting to do this other side of stuff, is it as much fun? Is it more fun? Is it a different kind of fun?

• 1:03:58Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll take a hack at this. So me and Jason, we started this thing because we just wanted to show our, our brotherhood and have fun catching up once a week. And it was a, it was a magical year where we both went to the Super Bowl and got to talk about both of our seasons throughout it. And in retrospect, after about three years, the coolest part is getting to, getting to interview guys like you and just getting to shoot the shit with you over the course of an hour and get to pick your brain on the profession that you're in and, and what got you there and things like that. Like that's all been so fascinating to me. And it kind of hit me like a blind side because I just got on here to have fun with my brother. And now I get to do a cool shit like this. So that, that's definitely the, uh, the, the ups for me.

• 1:04:40Speaker 05

  That's awesome.

• 1:04:41Speaker 02

I would say, like Travis said, being able to just talk to Trav once a week, we have a dedicated time. And before we did this, there'd be like months sometimes in the middle of a season, especially where you like fall by the wayside. So that combined with interviewing really successful, interesting people or friends is awesome. But I would say the other thing that's, it's very similar. You know, when you get ready to play a sport, you're, you practice and you work and you, and you prepare and then the game day

• 1:05:11Speaker 02

happens and you, you know, get to express yourself as a player. And that's something very unique as an entertainer as well, where you know, you work at it and you, and you try to like, you know, think about how can I do things or what can I do that'll be interesting or take a creative idea from scratch.

• 1:05:32Speaker 05

  Yep.

• 1:05:32Speaker 02

And I don't know, bring it to life and it all is like, just really rewarding when that happens.

• 1:05:38Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:05:38Speaker 02

That, um, I think that's similar in terms of like getting out there and you worked all off season. We've, we've put in all these new plays. Let's go out there and see what it looks like.

• 1:05:49Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:05:49Speaker 02

And then you get blown out by 40 points. You're like, fuck, we're out of it, boys.

• 1:05:55Travis Kelce?

  Back to the drawing board.

• 1:05:58Speaker 05

But that's, I think there's a lot of parallels between team sport and getting to do a lot of things in entertainment because the same thing can, like, I think that's why I love working on films. It's a, it's a team of people. It's a crew of people. I love Saturday Night Live because of the ensemble, because it was like, we all, like, if, if, if, you know, if we all pull for each other, the whole show does well and we all do well. And same sort of thing. You can, you work hard, you're working on something, you, you, you film something for 50 days, it takes a year to come out, and you lay a big fat turd. And, and you're

• 1:06:39Speaker 05

like, oh, audience didn't think it was funny at all. Oh, well, we thought it was hilarious.

• 1:06:44Travis Kelce?

  There you go.

• 1:06:46Speaker 05

And then you're like, well, I'm still glad we went for it. You know, what, what are you gonna do?

• 1:06:52Travis Kelce?

Yeah. I'm taking your advice and I'm full send in everything I ever do in the entertainment world, man.

• 1:06:57Speaker 05

  Full send.

• 1:06:58Travis Kelce?

  I appreciate that advice, man.

• 1:06:59Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:07:00Travis Kelce?

Will, thank you so much, brother. You're unbelievable. Cannot wait to see everything you got coming up and appreciate the time, man.

• 1:07:08Speaker 05

Thanks, you guys. All right. That was fun.

• 1:07:11Speaker 02
