• 0:05George Kamel?

Today, we're exploring how men and women spend their money, but make it artsy.

• 0:09Rachel Cruze?

Oh, I'm so nervous right now.

• 0:11George Kamel?

I don't even, why did you give me so many brushes?

• 0:13Rachel Cruze?

More single women are homeowners than single men.

• 0:16George Kamel?

What do you think is behind that?

• 0:17Rachel Cruze?

  Responsibility. One, two, three.

• 0:20George Kamel?

  A spitting image.

• 0:26Rachel Cruze?

  Hey, guys, I'm Rachel Cruz.

• 0:28George Kamel?

  I'm George Kamel.

• 0:29Rachel Cruze?

  And this is

• 0:30George Kamel?

  Smart Money Happy Hour.

• 0:33Rachel Cruze?

  Cheers, George.

• 0:34George Kamel?

  Cheers.

• 0:38George Kamel?

This is easily one of the best episodes we've ever done.

• 0:42Rachel Cruze?

Can I do my intro first?

• 0:43George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 0:44Rachel Cruze?

  Wow, you're jumping the gun.

• 0:45George Kamel?

  I'm just so excited.

• 0:46Rachel Cruze?

He is so happy that this is a podcast for two friends who happen to be money experts. Talk about what you're talking about, everything from pop culture, current events and money. All right, George, what are we sipping on?

• 0:57George Kamel?

We are sipping on a bourbon carahio. I don't know if that's how you pronounce it, but it felt culturally accurate.

• 1:05Rachel Cruze?

  I like it.

• 1:08George Kamel?

Can you try it for me?

• 1:09Rachel Cruze?

Say it, you say it again.

• 1:10George Kamel?

  Carahio.

• 1:11Rachel Cruze?

  Carahio.

• 1:12George Kamel?

That was pretty good. I don't think, I don't know that we rolled the R.

• 1:17Rachel Cruze?

I am good at rolling my Rs.

• 1:18George Kamel?

  I'm not sure that required.

• 1:20Rachel Cruze?

Spanish would be my second language, if I had to pick.

• 1:23George Kamel?

You barely got English down, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

• 1:27Rachel Cruze?

  Rachel.

• 1:28George Kamel?

  Rachel.

• 1:28Rachel Cruze?

  Rachel, Rachel. Okay.

• 1:31George Kamel?

Hey, stick around till the end, though. We're gonna rate the drink and reveal the cost per glass. And this one feels expensive. This feel, my guess is this is $4.38.

• 1:41Rachel Cruze?

Ooh, fun guess. I'm going $4.24, Bob.

• 1:46George Kamel?

I knew you were gonna do that. All right.

• 1:49Rachel Cruze?

Okay. Oh, we can't wait to tell you about all this, y'all. This is gonna be fun. It's gonna be a fun episode because we were like brainstorming, you know, what are things about money? And this whole kind of opposite sex came up of like men versus women. And activities are so different, like women.

• 2:06George Kamel?

  Being social.

• 2:06Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, when we are social as women, I mean, it's everything from beach trips. Yeah, girl, let's just go. We got, we got our showers, we got our baby showers, we got our wedding showers.

• 2:15George Kamel?

You guys love a shower. Even love a sprinkle.

• 2:16Rachel Cruze?

  A sprinkle.

• 2:18George Kamel?

That's a new thing for me.

• 2:18Rachel Cruze?

Baby number two, you know what that is. You don't get a full shower, but you get a sprinkle, but we're all up for a party. We love a happy hour. I went to dinner with some friends and there was a whole group of other women at the bar doing their happy hour and I just like, good for you girls.

• 2:32George Kamel?

You have a whole show that has the word happy hour in the name.

• 2:35Rachel Cruze?

  Oh my gosh, we do.

• 2:35George Kamel?

That's how much you love a happy hour. I was like, did she forget?

• 2:38Rachel Cruze?

That is the name of this show. Uh, we have workout classes. We got our yoga. We got our Pilates. We got our bar spin. You know, any class you want. Uh, book clubs. So anyways, we have a lot, we have a lot of ways to be social. The ladies and some can be expensive.

• 2:53George Kamel?

  They like to connect.

• 2:54Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, and some can be expensive. Some more budget friendly.

• 2:57George Kamel?

I would say men are similar but different in that they don't want to make eye contact with other men. So they like to do things where they're looking at a thing.

• 3:05Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 3:06George Kamel?

  But not at each other.

• 3:07Rachel Cruze?

That's right. You have to have it.

• 3:07George Kamel?

  But together.

• 3:10George Kamel?

  You know what I mean?

• 3:11Rachel Cruze?

  A hundred percent.

• 3:11George Kamel?

Cause if they look too much into their eyes, they might think about their dads and that's when things go south. So you gotta avoid eye contact. That's key for men's social events. So here's what men like to do. Again, these are stereotypes. So if you're like, I like anime, this isn't for you. We're just going generalizations here. Sweeping generalizations. Men like to go to sporting events.

• 3:30Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 3:31George Kamel?

Could be little league baseball, screaming at the kids. Could be an NFL game. Either way, they're happy. Comedy shows. That's what I'm personally into.

• 3:39Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 3:40George Kamel?

John Deloney and I love to go to a comedy show, sometimes together. Uh, sports bar with the boys, just eating wings, watching the big game.

• 3:48Rachel Cruze?

  When the Bears are on.

• 3:49George Kamel?

Little B dubs never hurt anybody. That's what I say. Uh, gym memberships. Guys love to be at the gym for two, three hours. I don't know what they're even doing there.

• 3:58Rachel Cruze?

  What are they doing?

• 3:59George Kamel?

It's too much. Poker night, placing cards.

• 4:03Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 4:03George Kamel?

And, uh, here's the thing. Honestly, most girly activities could be made into coed events for couples if you try hard enough.

• 4:10Rachel Cruze?

More on the women's side though, I would say.

• 4:12George Kamel?

It's harder. Yeah, but some women like the guy stuff. Like they want to watch the game.

• 4:16Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's fair.

• 4:17George Kamel?

You know, women can enjoy poker and

• 4:19Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 4:19George Kamel?

  And wings.

• 4:20Rachel Cruze?

  That's good.

• 4:20George Kamel?

  Women love wings.

• 4:21Rachel Cruze?

  I do.

• 4:22George Kamel?

  My wife loves wings.

• 4:23Rachel Cruze?

  I love wings. Same.

• 4:25George Kamel?

No sports needs to be involved.

• 4:26Rachel Cruze?

Anytime we get like a pizza order, cause we do that a lot at our house, Papa John's or Jets or whatever, we always add some wings in.

• 4:32George Kamel?

  It pairs well.

• 4:33Rachel Cruze?

  It does.

• 4:33George Kamel?

  Pizza on wings.

• 4:34Rachel Cruze?

I love bar food though. Love barbecue.

• 4:36George Kamel?

What's your, you have a local spot that you like to go to?

• 4:39Rachel Cruze?

You're gonna ask, it's my favorite.

• 4:41George Kamel?

Anything fried and cheesy, Rachel's into.

• 4:43Rachel Cruze?

  I love mozzarella sticks.

• 4:45George Kamel?

  More than anything?

• 4:46Rachel Cruze?

Okay, so, yeah, here in Nashville, I mean, if I'm, if we're going super local, because it's great with kids, because it's always loud, there's always big tables you can get, you know, like you're always able to-

• 4:56George Kamel?

But you're not gonna make a nuisance with kids, it's already chaos.

• 4:58Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, that's right, yeah, that's right, so you're like, oh yeah, let's go, this is great. Uh, we love Jonathan's.

• 5:02George Kamel?

  Jonathan's Grill.

• 5:02Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, and then next to it is Brew House.

• 5:05George Kamel?

  Yep.

• 5:05Rachel Cruze?

So those two, you can, we can always get in one of those.

• 5:08George Kamel?

Great, hey, if you're in the, uh, the Cool Springs area in Franklin, Tennessee.

• 5:11Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, I mean, they're not, they're like suburban sports bars, so they're not like cool.

• 5:15George Kamel?

Like what chain, I guess Buffalo Wild Wings would be considered a big chain kind of sports bar.

• 5:19Rachel Cruze?

Uh huh, so fun, do you like a sports bar?

• 5:23George Kamel?

Here's the thing, a lot of sports bar food, uh, is not gluten free. It's a lot of, you know what I mean, fried, carbs, so it's just less fun for me.

• 5:32Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, that's fair. And- Do you drink beer, being gluten free?

• 5:34George Kamel?

Yeah, there's gluten free beers and ciders and-

• 5:36Rachel Cruze?

But like a normal, because it has yeast in it?

• 5:38George Kamel?

Normal beer, you can't do it.

• 5:39Rachel Cruze?

Wow, George, I didn't think about that.

• 5:41George Kamel?

  Thanks for thinking of me.

• 5:42Rachel Cruze?

So a good, like, draft beer, you can't have?

• 5:44George Kamel?

  No, no.

• 5:45Rachel Cruze?

  Oh my gosh.

• 5:46George Kamel?

Yeah, although back in the day, I enjoyed a Sam Adams, a nice crispy lager, a crispy lager would do it for me.

• 5:51Rachel Cruze?

  That's fair, I like it.

• 5:52George Kamel?

  But they have alternatives now.

• 5:53Rachel Cruze?

Okay, good, good, good, good. So one of the trends, though, of a ladies' night out, is the paint and sip.

• 5:59George Kamel?

  I've heard about these.

• 6:00Rachel Cruze?

So you can go and like have a glass of wine and like draw a picture, and then you have an artist in front of you. And then, social media took like a spin on it, where couples, which we are not a couple, but they will go out on a date and draw each other's picture.

• 6:12George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 6:13Rachel Cruze?

So I told George, we should do that on a Smart Money Happy Hour episode, because I'm a horrible artist, like I, I can't draw.

• 6:22George Kamel?

However bad you are at singing, make that worse.

• 6:25Rachel Cruze?

It's all in the same category, in the same realm of life.

• 6:27George Kamel?

But to be fair, you have many other talents.

• 6:30Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, that's fine, my self-esteem is great, like I feel really good about myself, I just am very aware of what-

• 6:35George Kamel?

I'm not a great artist either, but compared to you, I am Pablo Picasso.

• 6:38Rachel Cruze?

So, uh, we're gonna put on these aprons, and we're gonna start painting each other's faces.

• 6:46George Kamel?

I feel like I'm just wearing a big bib. You know what I mean?

• 6:49Rachel Cruze?

  You look great.

• 6:50George Kamel?

I'm thinking about just like crunch into a lobster. Just a whole lobster.

• 6:54Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, yes.

• 6:55George Kamel?

  You know what I mean?

• 6:56Rachel Cruze?

That's like how to lose a guy in 10 days vibes.

• 6:58George Kamel?

  Alright.

• 6:59Rachel Cruze?

Okay, so we have some topics to discuss, George, while we paint, okay?

• 7:03George Kamel?

We're already not good at painting. Now we have to multitask?

• 7:06Rachel Cruze?

I know, that's what I'm telling you. Okay, so I think the easiest way we're gonna do this. I think I'm gonna just hold mine and paint this way.

• 7:14George Kamel?

Okay, I'll attempt to do the same.

• 7:15Rachel Cruze?

And we have lots of brushes. They remind me of, um, makeup brushes.

• 7:20George Kamel?

Oh, that's what makeup brushes look like?

• 7:23Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh. Okay, so, geez. Oh, I'm so nervous right now.

• 7:29George Kamel?

I don't even, why did you give me so many brushes? There's 7,000 brushes here. Like, what do I start with?

• 7:34Rachel Cruze?

Okay, my question is, how big are you doing my head? Are you going like big or are you gonna go small?

• 7:39George Kamel?

You want it to fit the canvas well.

• 7:41Rachel Cruze?

I mean, what does that mean?

• 7:43George Kamel?

It's about to scale. Like, think about real life.

• 7:47Rachel Cruze?

So, so you may go big. Like, we're not doing like a little face.

• 7:50George Kamel?

  No, no, no, no, no.

• 7:51Rachel Cruze?

  It's gonna be, okay.

• 7:52George Kamel?

Yeah, like the top of your head will be close to the top.

• 7:54Rachel Cruze?

  Ah!

• 7:56George Kamel?

  Alright.

• 7:59Rachel Cruze?

Okay, I feel like I need...

• 8:00George Kamel?

What do you start with? I guess the thin wispy ones?

• 8:03Rachel Cruze?

I'm scared I'm gonna start to paint your face. Shoot. Okay, hold on.

• 8:08George Kamel?

Alright, Rachel, before we start painting, I wanna make sure everyone knows, this is an episode you kinda want to watch. So make sure that you're watching on YouTube or Spotify or the Ramsey Network app, cuz you can't really hear us paint.

• 8:21Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, our beautiful masterpieces.

• 8:22George Kamel?

I'm not a loud painter. Alright.

• 8:24Rachel Cruze?

Okay, so, seriously, I guess a face is not a circle, it's an oval.

• 8:29George Kamel?

  You're on to something.

• 8:30Rachel Cruze?

Okay, okay, okay. I feel like the first, I feel like we need a pencil.

• 8:35George Kamel?

Yeah, that would've been smart. Does anyone have a pencil?

• 8:37Rachel Cruze?

Or do we just go rogue?

• 8:39George Kamel?

Alright, we're being told to go rogue.

• 8:42Rachel Cruze?

  What brush are you using?

• 8:43George Kamel?

  I'm using a wispy one.

• 8:45Rachel Cruze?

Oh, shoot, why? For my face?

• 8:47George Kamel?

Yeah, I kinda wanna make, this is kinda my pencil. And then I'll start to kinda fill it in with the thicker ones.

• 8:51Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh, you're so smart. Okay, I'm gonna do that, too.

• 8:53George Kamel?

None of these look like your skin tone.

• 8:55Rachel Cruze?

That's what I'm, that's what I'm saying. Okay, I think I just already messed up.

• 8:59George Kamel?

I can't even see your face, how am I supposed to paint you?

• 9:01Rachel Cruze?

Sorry, I'm sorry, sorry. All right, here we go. Let's get into some content, George.

• 9:06George Kamel?

  All right.

• 9:08George Kamel?

  Here we go.

• 9:08Rachel Cruze?

Men spend more on entertainment supplies. This is interesting. Okay, so think about like indoor exercise equipment, athletic shoes, fireworks, all the things. They spend on average $675 per year on this stuff. Where women spend 141 on the same category. What do you think about that?

• 9:24George Kamel?

Wow. I guess it makes sense. I mean, guys are more into, like, generally, if they're into fitness, they're really into fitness. They want all the gear.

• 9:33Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 9:34George Kamel?

  So like, guys love gear.

• 9:35Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 9:35George Kamel?

And so if it's an accoutrement, they have to have the best running shoes. Whereas women can make do with what they have.

• 9:42Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 9:42George Kamel?

Or they'll go to like a class.

• 9:44Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I would say that's true.

• 9:44George Kamel?

The fireworks is an interesting one. I guess guys are more prone to want to blow things up for fun.

• 9:51George Kamel?

  Are you a fireworks person?

• 9:54Rachel Cruze?

  You know,

• 9:57Rachel Cruze?

  no.

• 9:58George Kamel?

Okay, thank you for your honesty.

• 10:00Rachel Cruze?

I will enjoy a fireworks show when it's appropriate.

• 10:03George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 10:04Rachel Cruze?

Fourth of July, all the things. But there is a part of me that I'm like, after like four of them, they are kind of all the same. You know what I mean? Where you're, and everyone's like, ooh.

• 10:11George Kamel?

Like even an amazing fireworks show, 10 minutes in, I'm like, all right.

• 10:14Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 10:15George Kamel?

Like unless you get a smiley face or something really exciting in there.

• 10:18Rachel Cruze?

Hey, you know the new cool stuff is the drones? Have you seen these drone shows? Where they create like actual objects?

• 10:24George Kamel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 10:25Rachel Cruze?

Um, those are cool. Ooh, I like this brush. Okay, men buy women's shop. So that's an interesting way. So men love to research the best product and go and buy. Women enjoy the process of weighing options, looking around.

• 10:41Rachel Cruze?

  See, and I don't know, I don't, I think I am more, I'm not a researcher. I'm a, I see it, I want it, I'm gonna buy it. And call it a day. I, I don't like to window shop.

• 10:51George Kamel?

  You're pretty decisive.

• 10:52Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, I don't like to window shop.

• 10:53George Kamel?

  Do you go into stores?

• 10:55Rachel Cruze?

Are you filling in my face with like a color?

• 10:57George Kamel?

I will eventually. I'd kind of like to get an outline going. I've just, that's why I've seen Bob Ross do it.

• 11:03Rachel Cruze?

Okay, okay. I think I'm doing this wrong. Can I paint on top of paint?

• 11:08George Kamel?

Yeah, that's how paint's supposed to work, I think.

• 11:09Rachel Cruze?

  Okay, good, okay.

• 11:11George Kamel?

You're doing great. There's no wrong answers, just bad painters.

• 11:14Rachel Cruze?

I hate, you know what, I have a scar, like a wounded emotional scar. Because that's what all the art teachers, like, you never can mess up. Well, I messed up, I remember, on one painting. And she's like, you can make it into a flower. And it was the stupidest looking thing. And she's like, it's your own, it's beautiful. I'm like, it's not true. It's like when people are like, that's a stu-, there's no stupid questions. I'm like.

• 11:35George Kamel?

  There are, in your mind?

• 11:36Rachel Cruze?

I think there probably could be. I mean, like, I don't think that's like a black and white statement. Same with arts. It's like, it's not beautiful, it's not. You can just say it, Ms. Tucker, it's just not.

• 11:44George Kamel?

That's, while art is subjective, it can also just be bad, too. Kind of like music. Like, there aren't objectively just bad songs.

• 11:51Rachel Cruze?

  I guess.

• 11:52George Kamel?

And then there's like, well, that's not for me.

• 11:54Rachel Cruze?

It's the eye of the beholder.

• 11:55George Kamel?

Like, you like, I don't know, what you listen to these days?

• 11:57Rachel Cruze?

I know. The goodness of God, Taylor Swift, it has not changed.

• 12:00George Kamel?

God, same exact soundtrack? What about the new Taylor? Are you excited for that?

• 12:04Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I am. And she, and Wicked 2, second part of Wicked. They're all coming out kind of around the same time.

• 12:13George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 12:14Rachel Cruze?

Poor Winston. We are gonna have some music in our household.

• 12:18George Kamel?

What's Winston listening to these days?

• 12:19Rachel Cruze?

He listens to bands I've never heard of.

• 12:22George Kamel?

Like indie bands, or like folk?

• 12:24Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 12:24George Kamel?

  Jazz, what are we talking?

• 12:25Rachel Cruze?

  No, it's like indie punk.

• 12:27George Kamel?

  That's.

• 12:28Rachel Cruze?

  Is that right?

• 12:28George Kamel?

  A genre, okay.

• 12:29Rachel Cruze?

  Okay, no, I don't know. I mean, I don't know.

• 12:31George Kamel?

Can I say, you have multiple hair colors. What's that called?

• 12:35Rachel Cruze?

  Highlights.

• 12:36George Kamel?

Oh, highlights. I knew it wasn't a balayage.

• 12:40Rachel Cruze?

No, I did a balayage once, and it was not good.

• 12:42George Kamel?

I feel like that, has that faded out? Like, is that not on trend? People don't really do balayages anymore.

• 12:47Rachel Cruze?

Not as much anymore, I still think they're pretty.

• 12:50George Kamel?

I gotta say, I'm kind of nailing the hair.

• 12:51Rachel Cruze?

  I.

• 12:52George Kamel?

  That's the easiest part.

• 12:53Rachel Cruze?

I just have, I just have a round circle, and it filled it. That's all I have.

• 12:58George Kamel?

You know what, we're all children of God, so no matter how you make me.

• 13:04Rachel Cruze?

I don't know what to do.

• 13:08Rachel Cruze?

Oh, man. I think I. I think I already messed up, George.

• 13:13George Kamel?

  It's okay.

• 13:15Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, man, your hair. Okay.

• 13:16George Kamel?

  Like.

• 13:17Rachel Cruze?

All right, now we're gonna do that.

• 13:18George Kamel?

Like a good dad, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. That's the worst-case scenario.

• 13:24Rachel Cruze?

  I'm gonna cry.

• 13:25George Kamel?

Yeah, I'm on the research side. For men buy, women shop, I'm with, I don't, going into a store can be stressful for me. Unless I really need to see it, touch it, feel it, test it.

• 13:33Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 13:33George Kamel?

I'm gonna just do it online and then return it and fight to the death to make the return happen. All right, I got, I got the hair down.

• 13:40Rachel Cruze?

I mean, this is so, I'm just gonna have to keep going. I just, I don't know what to do. I feel a little paralyzed.

• 13:46George Kamel?

It's okay. You know what? Quit while you're behind. Next on the list, um, single women spend more on apparel than single men. Women spent 1.7 times more than men on clothing, footwear, and accessories. Uh, do you spend more or less than that in your house, Rachel?

• 14:04Rachel Cruze?

Uh, I would say more. So, yeah, I would say that's fair.

• 14:07George Kamel?

Is it because, uh, Winston is, he's a man of simple tastes? He's like, I got seven shirts, why do I need more?

• 14:11Rachel Cruze?

Um, so he'll find a shirt or a style that's really great, and then he'll just use it. Okay, here we go, we gotta go.

• 14:19George Kamel?

I gotta move on to the face. I've been really postponing that.

• 14:22Rachel Cruze?

Hey, and one brand that he loves as well is Cozy Earth. Cause their clothes, like all their athleisure wear and stuff, it, they're, it's just amazing. It's so good, y'all. Um, even this weekend, I was wearing their, um, uh, pants and top and stuff for the weekends. And it's just so comfortable. And their soft wash cotton sheets.

• 14:44George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 14:45Rachel Cruze?

Especially coming in like the fall/winter vibes. Oh, my gosh. Amazing.

• 14:48George Kamel?

It's like that, like, lived-in clothing, you know, where you put it on the first time, and like, this is nice.

• 14:53Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 14:53George Kamel?

  Imagine that while you sleep.

• 14:55Rachel Cruze?

All the time. It's so great. It's so great.

• 14:57George Kamel?

The best. And I just pulled out the, uh, now that it's getting a little cooler.

• 15:01Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 15:01George Kamel?

  The big ol' blanket.

• 15:03Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, yes. The cuddle blanket?

• 15:05George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 15:06Rachel Cruze?

  Phenomenal.

• 15:06George Kamel?

And my little daughter Mia had the best time in there.

• 15:08Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, sweet.

• 15:09George Kamel?

We just, we hung out and just made a little fort. Which that thing is like, that's got some weight to it.

• 15:14Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 15:15George Kamel?

So it was serious, but it was like she was cuddled by a thousand teddy bears is what it felt like for her. So she loved it.

• 15:20Rachel Cruze?

  So sweet, yeah.

• 15:21George Kamel?

They got 40% off when you use the promo code SMARTMONEY at checkout or go to cozylearth.com/smartmoney. We'll drop a link in the description as well.

• 15:29Rachel Cruze?

  Fabulous.

• 15:30George Kamel?

So maybe the guys should spend a little more now. You know, I think women want to see guys with better fashion sense.

• 15:36Rachel Cruze?

  That's probably fair.

• 15:37George Kamel?

Guys are like, I feel like the vibe now is like lazy athleisure, you know? Just like some old gray sweats.

• 15:44Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 15:45George Kamel?

Some tube socks, some slides. I think we need to step it up, guys.

• 15:48Rachel Cruze?

Yep. Uh, I'm a little stuck.

• 15:53George Kamel?

You're like, how do you make someone that handsome on paper?

• 15:55Rachel Cruze?

  How do you do eyes?

• 16:01George Kamel?

Oh, your eyes are way too close. I apologize in advance.

• 16:06George Kamel?

You have a very natural... Can I get a good look at the brows here? What are we working with? Are we doing the thin brow these days?

• 16:12Rachel Cruze?

  No.

• 16:13George Kamel?

I'd say you have a medium brow.

• 16:14Rachel Cruze?

  I'm a medium.

• 16:16Rachel Cruze?

Okay, I gotta do, I think I'm gonna do your glasses first. Before I do your eyes, which might be dangerous, but here we go. What's the shape of your glasses?

• 16:26George Kamel?

  Um...

• 16:27Rachel Cruze?

  Straight and then circle?

• 16:29George Kamel?

Is it sort of a not-quite oval, not-quite circle?

• 16:33Rachel Cruze?

This is, it's really hard to get like a thin line.

• 16:37George Kamel?

Yeah, I would agree with that. They did us dirty with these brushes. I require more professional equipment.

• 16:42Rachel Cruze?

You know, something else I love is that more single women are homeowners than single men.

• 16:47George Kamel?

  Now that's interesting.

• 16:49Rachel Cruze?

Yes, so women own around 11.1 million homes, single men 8.4 million.

• 16:56George Kamel?

  Okay, I'm trying to-

• 16:56Rachel Cruze?

  Oh my god.

• 16:57George Kamel?

Help me understand that. What do you think is behind that?

• 16:59Rachel Cruze?

  Responsibility, hard work.

• 17:01George Kamel?

  Oh, that makes sense.

• 17:03Rachel Cruze?

Guys are like, dude, that's like, yeah, I don't know, it's so hard. Like, it's so hard to get a house these days. Like, I don't know what to do. And girls are like, just step aside. Let us just-

• 17:11George Kamel?

Single women, so, okay, it's just single women versus single men. I do think single women have more fiscal responsibility.

• 17:18Rachel Cruze?

I think so too. And it may come from out of like a safety element, too.

• 17:21George Kamel?

That's right. Dudes are willing to like live off, you know, on the edge of their seat a little bit more. They'd rather put the money into like a car and have a big car payment and rent.

• 17:29Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 17:30George Kamel?

They're not as concerned about stability. And I think a home represents stability for, for women. So that tracks.

• 17:36Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I would see that. And there's a part two of, I think, like, if I'm doing well and I can, I'm gonna go ahead and continue to like advance where I wanna be. Where I do feel like some guys, I don't know, yeah, I guess it's just like what you're saying, but it is like the priority is different. Maybe, I don't know. That's what I'm gonna say. Okay, I tried to get your nose. You can't really see, yeah, I don't know, how do you do, how do you do a, a part of your face that is the color of your face, but it just show up 3D, you know? Or 2D? I guess that's what it would be. Does that make sense?

• 18:18George Kamel?

Sorry, I, I just bought, can I, can I get a straight on visual of your nose? Cause I, I just did you real dirty here. Can, can you look at me right?

• 18:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, I will.

• 18:28George Kamel?

  Okay. This, it's looking not-

• 18:31Rachel Cruze?

  Okay. It's fine. It's fine.

• 18:35George Kamel?

  All right.

• 18:36Rachel Cruze?

  Zero judgment. Zero judgment.

• 18:38George Kamel?

Okay, we're gonna move on to the math.

• 18:40Rachel Cruze?

Um, half of men and women lack retirement savings. Fifty percent of women and forty seven percent of men have no personal retirement savings.

• 18:48George Kamel?

  At age fifty-five?

• 18:50Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, that's not good.

• 18:52George Kamel?

  How, is that real?

• 18:53Rachel Cruze?

Guys, we gotta, we gotta start investing.

• 18:54George Kamel?

You're telling me like, half of everybody has zero in retirement by age 55?

• 18:59Rachel Cruze?

  That's what it's saying.

• 19:00George Kamel?

That's US Census Bureau. Why would they lie? They have no reason to lie.

• 19:03Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, they don't care.

• 19:04George Kamel?

It's the government, Rachel. Why would they lie?

• 19:06Rachel Cruze?

Why would they lie? Why would they lie?

• 19:08George Kamel?

Yeah, this is a big one, uh, because at 55, it's so much harder to make up for lost time than 30. You know, compound growth doesn't have as much time to work, so...

• 19:17Rachel Cruze?

  But you can.

• 19:17George Kamel?

If this is you, yeah, it's gonna... You just have to work longer and invest more.

• 19:22Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 19:22George Kamel?

So it's a harder habit to create, cause you're older, and you have to go even harder in, in the paint, as they say.

• 19:29Rachel Cruze?

Ooh, well, good reference, good reference. Okay, George, I think your lips, I think I'm not gonna do a smile for you.

• 19:35George Kamel?

Just to be safe, I didn't even think about your, your lip color.

• 19:41George Kamel?

  Alright.

• 19:45Rachel Cruze?

Dad gummit, y'all. It's so bad.

• 19:48George Kamel?

Can I see your lips? Like, don't smile. Let me just see what the lips look like.

• 19:50Rachel Cruze?

  I gotta...

• 19:52George Kamel?

I was trying to see what kinda taper you have there.

• 19:58Rachel Cruze?

Oh, and you have a mustache. Holy mackerel.

• 20:01George Kamel?

Thank you for saying that. A lot of people don't consider this a mustache.

• 20:03Rachel Cruze?

No, you're like, you're the, the facial hair.

• 20:08George Kamel?

I would say you don't have any facial hair.

• 20:10Rachel Cruze?

  You look like...

• 20:13George Kamel?

Who? A celebrity? Do I have a doppelganger?

• 20:17Rachel Cruze?

Guess who characters? It's like, do they have a beard? You're like, yes, I know what sense.

• 20:24George Kamel?

  Guess who?

• 20:25Rachel Cruze?

Oh my gosh, you look like a Guess Who character.

• 20:28George Kamel?

You're saying in real life I look like a Guess Who character?

• 20:30Rachel Cruze?

  No, no, in my painting.

• 20:32George Kamel?

Like, I don't know how to take that.

• 20:33Rachel Cruze?

  It's...

• 20:35Rachel Cruze?

I'm gonna have to give you more facial hair. Oh my gosh.

• 20:38George Kamel?

The nose is where things really went wrong.

• 20:41Rachel Cruze?

  See, I went simple.

• 20:44George Kamel?

Do you have like a thin neck, would you say?

• 20:48George Kamel?

Or you think it's like pretty long?

• 20:49Rachel Cruze?

I mean, I would prefer a thin neck.

• 20:50George Kamel?

I'm trying to think if you're-

• 20:51Rachel Cruze?

  That probably feels a little-

• 20:53George Kamel?

Yeah, you have a good neck.

• 20:54Rachel Cruze?

  Just like-

• 20:55George Kamel?

It's like a baby giraffe. Yeah, it's wild. I wouldn't say full giraffe, but baby at least.

• 21:00Rachel Cruze?

Okay, your poor beard is something else. I'll just say that much.

• 21:05George Kamel?

Do you want to talk more about investing?

• 21:07Rachel Cruze?

Okay, so yes, when you are investing, making sure that you're debt-free, you have a fully funded emergency fund. I can't look at you in this. I'm starting laughing.

• 21:18Rachel Cruze?

Fully funded emergency fund and 15% of your income into retirement. And yes, even if you are 55 and you have debt, we would still say pause retirement because when you are completely out of debt, you can invest, again, 15%, where normally you probably wouldn't be able to do that if you have debt. So we would rather you invest more later than a little bit now because being out of debt frees up your income to do that.

• 21:42George Kamel?

  That's true.

• 21:43Rachel Cruze?

Which can feel, which can feel counterintuitive to some.

• 21:47Rachel Cruze?

But when you don't have payments and you're going into retirement, you're going to be able to live off less. You'll need less to live off of because you don't have all that debt.

• 21:53George Kamel?

You don't need as big of a nest egg-

• 21:55Rachel Cruze?

  That's right.

• 21:55George Kamel?

If you follow the Ramsey Plan because you don't have debt.

• 21:57Rachel Cruze?

  That's right.

• 21:58George Kamel?

That's good advice right there. And we do have a great investing guide I like to point people to. If you go to ramseysolutions.com/guide. It's completely free. And I found that's a good kind of just primer on what to do, how to do it, why to do it.

• 22:13Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, that's good. I like that. And something else great to have, not just our investing advice, is Delete Me.

• 22:19George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 22:20Rachel Cruze?

Delete Me is a great service, you guys. If you have any amount of data on the internet, which we all do, it's 2025, your information, your email address, your address, home address, kids' names, all of that is out there. And data brokers can collect your data and they sell it to other data brokers and make money. But Delete Me goes in and removes your data, which is incredible. Because again, there's so many scams and phishing and you get text messages from people you don't know and emails. Like, it's just insane. But Delete Me goes in and removes your information. And mostly from these websites that we've never heard of. Like, you've never heard of it. It's weird. It's like crazypeople.com or something.

• 23:00George Kamel?

  Creepypeoplefinder.com-

• 23:01Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, whatever.

• 23:02George Kamel?

  Slash biz.

• 23:03Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, it's bizarre.

• 23:04George Kamel?

So it's well worth the subscription fee. And again, you get 20% off at joindelete.me/smartmoney. So-

• 23:12George Kamel?

Do it. Good one to get.

• 23:14Rachel Cruze?

Do it. Great one to get. Okay, um, alcohol. Guess who spends more? Men or women?

• 23:20George Kamel?

  Uh, I'm going men.

• 23:21Rachel Cruze?

Yes, you're correct. Men spend more on alcohol than women. Um, men spend on average $542 annually, while women spend 257.

• 23:33George Kamel?

  Whoa.

• 23:34Rachel Cruze?

Is it weird that that feels low to me? That I'm like, I guess that's alcohol out. Like if you're out at restaurants or something versus like getting a bottle of something.

• 23:42George Kamel?

542 annually, women spend, that can't be right. You're telling me women spend 20 bucks a month?

• 23:49Rachel Cruze?

I know, I feel like that would, yeah.

• 23:50George Kamel?

And men are out like, you know, 45 bucks a month or so?

• 23:53Rachel Cruze?

Maybe we're the crazy ones, George.

• 23:54George Kamel?

I just don't know that I buy it. Like, I think whoever took the survey was a little bit kind to themselves.

• 23:59Rachel Cruze?

It's like when you go to the doctor and they're like, how much, what is it? Like, how much you, how much do you eat out? How much do you drink? How much, you know, they ask you like all your health questions. Okay, I'm gonna go.

• 24:15George Kamel?

Alright, I'm filling in the face. I hope you are too, because at this point, there's no return.

• 24:18Rachel Cruze?

I don't know what I just did at the bottom of your shirt, but I'm gonna just do it because it just feels like it's taking up space and I like that. We like to take up space. I don't know, I don't know. You kinda look like a pilgrim.

• 24:30George Kamel?

  I'll take that.

• 24:31Rachel Cruze?

Like a, like a cloak or a priest.

• 24:33George Kamel?

There's some indie bands that are trying to look like pilgrims, so you know, I take that as a compliment.

• 24:37Rachel Cruze?

Well, I don't know why, I, yeah, again, just, I feel like I'm gonna get judged from the, for the bottom. You gotta look at the face.

• 24:43George Kamel?

No one's gonna judge you. Here we go. Here's the next one.

• 24:47Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 24:48George Kamel?

Most men spend less on pet costs than women. Not in our house.

• 24:53Rachel Cruze?

  Not, not in this, yeah.

• 24:55George Kamel?

On average, women spent $575 on annual pet costs, men spent $367.

• 25:00Rachel Cruze?

I think naturally that like more nurturing, taken care of.

• 25:03George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 25:03Rachel Cruze?

Money is just a thing. Like, I would rather have something in my life that I love and value that over.

• 25:10Rachel Cruze?

Money. I can see that. It's like a little bit of that nurturing side taken care of.

• 25:13George Kamel?

Yep. I spend way more than that on our dogs and I don't have hobbies. So when people roast me for it, I'm like, I also don't have

• 25:21Rachel Cruze?

  hobbies.

• 25:21George Kamel?

  golf, sports, fantasy football leagues.

• 25:25Rachel Cruze?

Okay, how about vehicles, George? So women spend nearly half as much as men. Can you believe that?

• 25:31George Kamel?

  Oh, that makes total sense.

• 25:32Rachel Cruze?

On average, women spend $684 on new cars, men $1,219. I'm assuming that's like a payment.

• 25:41George Kamel?

You know how I, like, I think women tend to dress for other women. Men tend to drive for other men.

• 25:47Rachel Cruze?

  Hmm.

• 25:48George Kamel?

  You know?

• 25:48Rachel Cruze?

  I appreciate that.

• 25:49George Kamel?

Whereas women, I think that when they choose a car, they're looking for reliability. And if it's nice, that's a bonus.

• 25:55Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 25:56George Kamel?

Guys are like, I want to flex. I gotta have a bigger truck than my boy. You know, I gotta soup it up.

• 26:01Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 26:01George Kamel?

Add weird features that really don't have any benefit other than maybe aesthetics, you know, a big spoiler on the back. You ever, you ever just see a big spoiler and go, what's this guy doing with his life?

• 26:12Rachel Cruze?

  What's he doing?

• 26:13George Kamel?

How's he doing? Because if he's not racing for F1, this was a mistake.

• 26:16Rachel Cruze?

I will tell you, Winston got new tires.

• 26:20George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 26:21Rachel Cruze?

  Um, and he like

• 26:22George Kamel?

That's a normal thing to do.

• 26:24Rachel Cruze?

Well, no, they were like bigger, like it was like a thing. Cause he would see trucks around and take pictures of them. He went and, this is very not

• 26:32George Kamel?

  Stranger's trucks?

• 26:33Rachel Cruze?

This is very not Winston Cruz thing to do, but he went and knocked on a guy's door in a neighborhood next to ours. Cause he kept seeing this truck and he's like, I just really like those tires. And I want to know what they are specifically, if he likes them, if he had to like raise up his truck at all, like all this anyways. But I thought of you, George, because you always laugh about guys and their trucks. But Winston, he got it. And then he was like, what do you think of, oh snap. He was like, what do you think of the new tires? And I was like, I. They look like tires. They didn't look that different to me.

• 27:02George Kamel?

You weren't impressed. You were not impressed with these tires.

• 27:04Rachel Cruze?

They just, yeah, it didn't. Okay, okay. Your neck is kind of gray. Because it mixed in with the black of your shirt.

• 27:13George Kamel?

  No harm, no foul?

• 27:15Rachel Cruze?

Okay, but something that we have loved, though, that we've done and kind of changed was Fairwin's Credit Union.

• 27:22George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 27:23Rachel Cruze?

So Fairwin's, you guys, it's amazing. It's a credit union that has all Ramsey values. Like, they value their customers. They want you to be working a plan and saving. I mean, they are, they are an incredible company and you want your bank to be working with you, not against you when it comes to your money. And so Fairwin's is that. Like, they are just incredible people, you guys. We have loved working with them and the services that they have with their smart checking and savings bundle. It's just incredible. So you can go to fairwins.org/Ramsey and check out that smart savings checking and savings bundle. Um, and tell them you're, yeah, that you're a Ramsey fan, that you love Smart Money Happy Hour, all the things. Uh, because again, they, they work alongside you and we love that. And you don't have to be,

• 28:05Rachel Cruze?

you know, you could be anywhere because their online banking and everything is just incredible. And so the user-friendly service, the sign up is really fast, really easy. Like, they make everything really simple and that's great, especially if you're like doing things digitally, like on your phone and all of it. It's great. So make sure to check out Fairwin's. They're incredible.

• 28:23George Kamel?

Yeah, they called me and I was like, uh, hello? Is everything okay? They're like, yeah. We're just checking in, just seeing how you're experiencing. I was like, this is crazy to have a human call you.

• 28:32Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 28:33George Kamel?

From a bank. Like, it was such a beautiful, different experience.

• 28:36Rachel Cruze?

  It's great. They're amazing.

• 28:37George Kamel?

And they don't know me from out. It's not like they knew I was George from Ramsey, you know?

• 28:40Rachel Cruze?

Right, right, right. No, they're amazing.

• 28:42George Kamel?

So, good people over there. And great features, too.

• 28:46Rachel Cruze?

Yes, yes. All right, last but not least, George. Women hold the buying power in the home. So there's a lot of different sources out there that show that on average, women hold 80 to 85% of the buying power in the home. Versus men.

• 29:00George Kamel?

  Just for buying anything.

• 29:01Rachel Cruze?

  I think so.

• 29:02George Kamel?

  That makes sense.

• 29:03Rachel Cruze?

They see everything, they know what's going on, they kind of have a pulse check on like.

• 29:07George Kamel?

  I think for.

• 29:07Rachel Cruze?

  How it's being run.

• 29:08George Kamel?

Anything that's not like a major purchase, usually the women are handling it. When you think about household items, grocery items.

• 29:15Rachel Cruze?

  Mm hmm.

• 29:16George Kamel?

You know, not just like paying bills, but like buying things.

• 29:19Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 29:19George Kamel?

For the family and for the home.

• 29:20Rachel Cruze?

  To keep the household running.

• 29:21George Kamel?

If you ask the man, like, what do we need for, he would just be clueless in most cases.

• 29:25Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 29:25George Kamel?

To be like, what do the kids need?

• 29:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yep, totally.

• 29:27George Kamel?

What do we need for the kitchen right now?

• 29:29Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 29:29George Kamel?

What's the pan, what's the pantry need to be stocked with?

• 29:32Rachel Cruze?

Yes, the women kind of, yeah, I would say majority of them have the, which I, which I'm fine with. That, I like keeping tabs on that stuff.

• 29:41George Kamel?

Yep. Women carry what I call, and my wife would say, the mental load. That's something I've learned a lot about.

• 29:47Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 29:48George Kamel?

There's just a lot of things they're thinking about that the man is just not. And so I think the more the women can communicate, hey, this is what's on my mind. Can you help with, versus just being resentful in their head?

• 30:00Rachel Cruze?

  Well, sure, yes.

• 30:00George Kamel?

Be resentful out loud so we can fix it.

• 30:02Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 30:02George Kamel?

  That's all I ask.

• 30:03Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 30:05George Kamel?

  Very helpful for me.

• 30:07Rachel Cruze?

It's good to know, George, good to know. Um, man, I feel like I should do like, I don't know, I don't, I don't know how to fix this.

• 30:16George Kamel?

I think you're gonna love the way you look. Oh, you've got some like blush, is that what that is?

• 30:21Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 30:23George Kamel?

I don't have any blush color here, so.

• 30:25Rachel Cruze?

  That's okay.

• 30:26George Kamel?

  Just know that.

• 30:27Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 30:28George Kamel?

You look like, uh, like the hot dog in the 7-Eleven that's been on the roller too long. That's kind of what happened here with the skin tone.

• 30:37Rachel Cruze?

I think you look like a Guess Who character.

• 30:40George Kamel?

  All right.

• 30:41Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh. I mean, I don't, and that's the thing is I'm like, I would, oh, gosh, I gotta give you a sideburn, hold on.

• 30:48George Kamel?

  A sideburn?

• 30:49Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, you connect, don't you? Yeah, yours connects.

• 30:53George Kamel?

Oh, gosh, I'm getting paint everywhere.

• 30:54Rachel Cruze?

Hold on, you almost showed me if I was not painting.

• 30:57George Kamel?

  Oh, gosh.

• 30:57Rachel Cruze?

I would have seen it. Okay, and I feel like I should give you, your hair, oh, gosh.

• 31:02George Kamel?

I would say the hair is probably difficult for you.

• 31:06Rachel Cruze?

I'm gonna give you a little bit more.

• 31:08George Kamel?

  More hair?

• 31:09Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 31:09George Kamel?

Okay, I gave you too much. It's like a woolly mammoth over here.

• 31:13Rachel Cruze?

You know what? I have very thin hair, so I would appreciate that. That's great. I'll take more.

• 31:17George Kamel?

I will say, we're doing the middle part now. Is that correct?

• 31:20Rachel Cruze?

  Uh...

• 31:21George Kamel?

  Are we sticking with that?

• 31:21Rachel Cruze?

  It's not quite middle.

• 31:23George Kamel?

  Off-center?

• 31:24Rachel Cruze?

  Little off-center, see?

• 31:25George Kamel?

  Is that purposeful, or...?

• 31:26Rachel Cruze?

It's like where my calic is.

• 31:28George Kamel?

Okay, I didn't know if it was a per... yeah. So that's where your natural kinda part is.

• 31:32Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, wow!

• 31:37Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 31:38George Kamel?

  Alright.

• 31:39Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 31:39George Kamel?

So, the way you wanna do this big reveal...

• 31:42Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 31:42George Kamel?

Is I hand it to you without you seeing it. You hold it up to your face, and you don't look at it first. Let the audience see.

• 31:48Rachel Cruze?

I'm gonna put yours right here.

• 31:50George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 31:50Rachel Cruze?

Can you see this at all?

• 31:52George Kamel?

  No.

• 31:52Rachel Cruze?

  Okay. Alright, I'll take mine.

• 31:55George Kamel?

  Alright. Here we go.

• 31:57Rachel Cruze?

  Okay. Okay.

• 32:00George Kamel?

Alright, everyone watching at home, Rachel's gonna hold it up next to her face.

• 32:07George Kamel?

  Are you not entertained?

• 32:10Rachel Cruze?

  One, two, three...

• 32:12George Kamel?

  A spitting image.

• 32:19George Kamel?

Wouldn't you say that is like overcooked hot dog on the rollers?

• 32:25George Kamel?

Okay, tell us what you like first. Say three nice things.

• 32:29Rachel Cruze?

  The eyebrows.

• 32:31George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 32:36Rachel Cruze?

  I don't even... I don't even know.

• 32:40George Kamel?

I think I gave you a good amount of neck.

• 32:41Rachel Cruze?

  The neck is good.

• 32:42George Kamel?

The chin could use some definition.

• 32:44Rachel Cruze?

  The neck is good. Okay.

• 32:47George Kamel?

  You look very inflamed.

• 32:48Rachel Cruze?

  Yours looks... I'll say...

• 32:52George Kamel?

You could use an anti-inflammatory diet.

• 32:56Rachel Cruze?

Gluten-free, for sure. My gluten levels. Very jaundice. I look jaundice.

• 33:01George Kamel?

More SPF, and whatever you're wearing.

• 33:03Rachel Cruze?

A little jaundice. Okay, I'm gonna say yours does look more lifelike. Oh, the eyes are great, George. I know they're not hazel, but like the... you did a... like the black and the white, like...

• 33:13George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 33:13Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 33:14George Kamel?

  Thank you.

• 33:15Rachel Cruze?

  That was good.

• 33:15George Kamel?

  Alright.

• 33:16Rachel Cruze?

  Okay, um...

• 33:17George Kamel?

  Um...

• 33:18Rachel Cruze?

  Okay, okay.

• 33:22George Kamel?

Okay, so I'm gonna hold it up next to my face.

• 33:24Rachel Cruze?

  Uh-huh. Let everyone see it.

• 33:26George Kamel?

  I'm not gonna look.

• 33:33George Kamel?

  Is that it?

• 33:35Rachel Cruze?

  You're a little...

• 33:36George Kamel?

How do you think you did?

• 33:40George Kamel?

What would you say went wrong before I even look?

• 33:41Rachel Cruze?

I would go thinner. It's much of a rounder look and it's just more cartoonish than... I mean, mine's pretty... That's pretty terrible.

• 33:50George Kamel?

Yeah, no, you're right. You're right.

• 33:52Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 33:52George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 33:53Rachel Cruze?

  Go ahead.

• 33:55George Kamel?

  Oh my gosh.

• 34:00George Kamel?

Why? Why do I have just like dimples for eyes?

• 34:04Rachel Cruze?

I liked your eyes better. Your actual eyes.

• 34:08George Kamel?

I will say your actual paint work is beautiful.

• 34:10Rachel Cruze?

  Well, thank you.

• 34:12George Kamel?

Like the textures, like you did a much better job.

• 34:15Rachel Cruze?

  Oh my gosh.

• 34:15George Kamel?

I just don't know. I have just dots for eyes and tiny glasses and then some bowling ball for a head. And then my hair is just like one little...

• 34:25Rachel Cruze?

I know. It's kind of accurate.

• 34:27George Kamel?

  Little ears. Little wispy mouth.

• 34:30Rachel Cruze?

  Little ears, little mouth.

• 34:31George Kamel?

Little dainty ears and a big old beard, which is very generous because my beard is not like that.

• 34:36Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, there we go.

• 34:37George Kamel?

Okay, let's hold them up together.

• 34:38Rachel Cruze?

That's it. There's your Smart Money Happy Hour. Hey, this is Smart Money Happy Hour. I'm Rachel Cruz. I'm George Kamel. I wouldn't trust these two if I saw them in a dark alley. I would run the other one. These are for sure mug shots.

• 34:54George Kamel?

  This guy is not intimidated.

• 34:55Rachel Cruze?

Mug shots of Mary and Sean who murder people. That's what these are.

• 34:59George Kamel?

This guy has good wifi. You can trust him. He's not going to hurt anybody.

• 35:03Rachel Cruze?

She's going to try to sell you something that's illegal.

• 35:06George Kamel?

Yep. She definitely does Mary Kay. And not well.

• 35:11Rachel Cruze?

  In the daytime.

• 35:13George Kamel?

Does not have a pink Cadillac. She got sold on a dream.

• 35:16Rachel Cruze?

Oh my gosh. She got sold on a dream.

• 35:18George Kamel?

  Wow. Okay.

• 35:19Rachel Cruze?

  Well done. That was...

• 35:21George Kamel?

That was the most stressful thing I've done in a long time.

• 35:23Rachel Cruze?

  That was really special.

• 35:24George Kamel?

I watched a baby come into this world not long ago.

• 35:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 35:28George Kamel?

  That was more stressful.

• 35:30Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, well done, George.

• 35:31George Kamel?

That was fun. Thank you for your effort. And now I know what you really think of me.

• 35:35Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 35:35George Kamel?

You know what this does look like? It looks like if you didn't know what Steve Jobs looked like in 1984, and you were just like, I'm guessing this is what Steve Jobs looks like.

• 35:43Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 35:44George Kamel?

  It kinda looks like him.

• 35:45Rachel Cruze?

You know what I do not have a future in? Um, sketching for criminals for the police department.

• 35:51George Kamel?

Oh, that would be a sight to see.

• 35:54Rachel Cruze?

  Sketches.

• 35:55George Kamel?

What did he look like? Ah.

• 35:56Rachel Cruze?

I don't know. Something like that.

• 35:58George Kamel?

They would never find me if I committed the crime.

• 36:00Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 36:02George Kamel?

What did we learn today? That we should stick to our strengths.

• 36:05Rachel Cruze?

Yes. Um, men and women are different, obviously. Where they spend money is different. Um, and I think we're okay with it. I'd say stereotypically, I agreed with most of what the studies found.

• 36:19George Kamel?

Yeah, no, there was no huge shockers. The single women owning more homes was a big standout for me.

• 36:23Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 36:25George Kamel?

But other than that, it seems like the people who are, I don't know, trying to keep up, they're gonna keep up in their own ways. For the guys, it's gonna be with the gear and the sports stuff and whatever outdoorsy stuff. And for the women, maybe it's more upkeep and apparel. But I wanna give credit to the women.

• 36:41Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 36:42George Kamel?

In that societally, we have put more pressure on them to keep up. If that makes sense.

• 36:47Rachel Cruze?

Yes, from like an outward, yes.

• 36:48George Kamel?

From an outward perspective. Now, some of it's on them, some of it's on women. It's not like men are doing this to women.

• 36:53Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, from more of like the consumer side. But I think guys find their ego in like their golf club and their like thing that they got here. Like, you know what I mean? They find their value and stuff, too.

• 37:03George Kamel?

And men like to keep score more on the financial scoreboard.

• 37:06Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 37:06George Kamel?

  Versus women.

• 37:07Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 37:08George Kamel?

Um, women are probably a little more values-focused than men. But I, again, these are huge generalizations. Because what you'll see is there could be dudes out there crushing it who are investing in their 401Ks, don't care about impressing other people, and same goes for women.

• 37:23Rachel Cruze?

  Totally, 100%.

• 37:24George Kamel?

And it's okay to buy things and enjoy them. Like, I don't want people to hear, well, they don't want people to spend money on things they enjoy. They hate hobbies and social events.

• 37:32Rachel Cruze?

  Right, no, no, no, no.

• 37:33George Kamel?

But when you do it with debt and you do it for bad reasons and bad motives, it's just gonna end up crushing you.

• 37:38Rachel Cruze?

Yes, you just end up in an endless cycle where you're just running, running, running. You're not getting anywhere.

• 37:42George Kamel?

  It's exhausting.

• 37:43Rachel Cruze?

Find value in life, be smart about your money. So when there are things do come up for you to pay for and enjoy, you can actually enjoy it and not have to worry about getting a bill for it later.

• 37:51George Kamel?

Yeah, delayed gratification is a big one.

• 37:53Rachel Cruze?

All right, a couple of- Rapid fire questions, George.

• 37:56George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 37:56Rachel Cruze?

What is one social expense you're often invited into but hate spending money on?

• 38:02George Kamel?

Oh, gosh, there's so many. A social, okay, I'm trying to think of a social expense in my life. Like, hey, we're gonna go do this thing and it's gonna cost us forty bucks a piece, fifty bucks a piece.

• 38:13Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 38:14George Kamel?

What would that thing be? I mean, eating out is the big one.

• 38:18Rachel Cruze?

  For sure.

• 38:19George Kamel?

But like, I don't feel as bad eating out. Yeah, having a, if it's a good meal.

• 38:23Rachel Cruze?

  Yep, yep.

• 38:24George Kamel?

Social expense. I like going to the movies. I feel like that's a reasonable, I always go like, is this a reasonable cost for the value and entertainment I'm getting and the time I'm spending?

• 38:34Rachel Cruze?

Yes, yes. So on that then, I would say if it's a restaurant that's overpriced for the experience you get.

• 38:42George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 38:42Rachel Cruze?

I think that can be tiring.

• 38:43George Kamel?

Yeah, there's a place in Nashville that's like very high up, tallest building in Nashville, and it's a very cool experience, but the food was just mediocre to me.

• 38:51Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, so that would be one that I'm like, uh.

• 38:53George Kamel?

I went, that wasn't worth it.

• 38:54Rachel Cruze?

I'd rather go get some bar food somewhere.

• 38:57George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 38:57Rachel Cruze?

  And enjoy some time.

• 38:58George Kamel?

Here's the thing, a social expense, at least there's an experience involved and hopefully that is a memory with people that I love.

• 39:04Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 39:04George Kamel?

And so that, to me, I can justify that pretty easily at this stage of life.

• 39:08Rachel Cruze?

Yep, I love that. Okay, what's one budget category you and your spouse feel differently about?

• 39:14George Kamel?

  Oh, boy.

• 39:15Rachel Cruze?

  The clothing category.

• 39:17George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 39:18Rachel Cruze?

  Man.

• 39:19George Kamel?

You feel like it should be higher? And Winston's like, I don't understand why you need this.

• 39:24Rachel Cruze?

No, I think it's more, um, he doesn't, and it's not like a thing between us, it's been fifteen years of marriage, so we've kind of settled on like.

• 39:33George Kamel?

  You've worked through it.

• 39:34Rachel Cruze?

It's gonna be, but I think for him, it's like a, do you need another black shirt? Like, I don't know, like, you know, where I'm like, ooh, I'm gonna go buy four new pairs of jeans or whatever the thing is, you know? He's like, but you got plenty, so work again. He's simple in that, so I'd say that's probably one category, because everything else, I would say we pretty much. See eye to eye on, but the, I'd say the, yeah, the clothing category. That's a good one.

• 39:58George Kamel?

Yeah, um, I think my, my wife is like always wanting kind of new clothes, like refresh the wardrobe. And then they come in and then she's like, well, I'm going to return most of it. And so that's becomes a thing because I'm on box. I'm breaking down 17 boxes a day of just things that she might return that are really me going to return.

• 40:15Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 40:15George Kamel?

So that part we, we can bicker about. And the part for me is she knows if I buy a musical instrument or skateboarding things, she knows like, hey, you're not gonna, why are you, you're not gonna use it.

• 40:27Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, you're buying it and it's not, it's not gonna be used. Yes.

• 40:29George Kamel?

And it recently happened. I bought a brand new skateboard because I was like, babe, I'm gonna get back into it. And how many times have I?

• 40:35Rachel Cruze?

Well, because you have a new baby and like.

• 40:37George Kamel?

  That's the thing.

• 40:37Rachel Cruze?

  It's the reality of life.

• 40:39George Kamel?

I'm like, if I break an arm, I can't hold a baby, which is, that's going to make her even more angry. So that's the thing. I'm trying to get back into the hobbies that bring me joy, but there's no time in the season to do that.

• 40:50Rachel Cruze?

George, you have like a two week old.

• 40:52George Kamel?

  Exactly.

• 40:54George Kamel?

But if I was like, I'm gonna get a new guitar. She's like, you don't play the three that you have.

• 40:57Rachel Cruze?

  Right, right.

• 40:58George Kamel?

You know what I mean? So that's a, a very fair critique.

• 41:01Rachel Cruze?

  That's good.

• 41:01George Kamel?

  From Whitney.

• 41:02Rachel Cruze?

I appreciate that. Okay. So there's some low budget, social hangs that you, men and women both can enjoy. Ready?

• 41:09George Kamel?

  Hit me.

• 41:09Rachel Cruze?

A movie night, a game night. Love a game night. My gosh, game nights are so fun. BYO takeout night.

• 41:16George Kamel?

  So just bring it.

• 41:17Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 41:17George Kamel?

Hey, get whatever you want and bring it over.

• 41:19Rachel Cruze?

Eat. Everybody bring a snack. Send it backyard, especially if it's like a cool fall into winter night. Get a fire going.

• 41:27George Kamel?

I like anything that's potluck style of jelly. Everyone brings something.

• 41:30Rachel Cruze?

Yes, yeah. You know, my favorite hang these days has been, it's like, it's definitely like a kid thing, but like after dinner, we got in a habit, like a month into school, I guess because summer was up, where it's like, oh, hey, if everyone's coming home from practices and stuff, like whoever wants to stop by, I lost wine, the kids can still swim. And you can do it till like seven o'clock. It's a school night, so it's like seven to eight. And the people that were open, you're able to do it, but it's like an after dinner thing. Just for like a quick period, just to be like, oh yeah, house is open if anyone wants to stop by. Um, it can't be late night because we got school the next day. But that's been a fun thing, but you don't have to provide much. Like there's not like food.

• 42:07George Kamel?

  No one expects much.

• 42:08Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, yeah, but it's just to like be and you're not paying out to be out of a restaurant or something.

• 42:13George Kamel?

And we do, uh, we have a monthly supper club with a, a small group of friends that we do.

• 42:16Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 42:17George Kamel?

And it's always that someone, you know, we switch houses and everyone brings something. And we kind of know like, hey, you're the salad person, you know, Cassidy's gonna bring the wine. She ain't making no food, but she'll bring a good bottle, you know?

• 42:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 42:27George Kamel?

So that's always fun and it's low cost and it's a good way to have something on the books. Cause I've realized if I don't have it on the calendar, it just won't happen.

• 42:34Rachel Cruze?

  Hundred percent.

• 42:35George Kamel?

And that's why women hang out more than men. They're better on the administrative side to just make things happen.

• 42:39Rachel Cruze?

  We calendar it out.

• 42:40George Kamel?

And men are like, bro, we should like hang some time. And like, yeah.

• 42:42Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 42:43George Kamel?

And they get nervous and they feel weird like texting a guy like, hey man, do you want to hang outside of me?

• 42:47Rachel Cruze?

Girls are, I will say my friends are good at that. Either we're hanging out, my friend Annie and I, we like once a month she comes over and before she leaves, we put a new date on the calendar, like before she leaves.

• 42:55George Kamel?

  Genius.

• 42:55Rachel Cruze?

But then if there's like some friends that text about lunch, people will text, hey, I have Tuesday, the 14th, Thursday, the 16th. They like, they'll give you like five dates and we can like find a date.

• 43:04George Kamel?

  I love the specificity.

• 43:05Rachel Cruze?

  That's it.

• 43:06George Kamel?

Don't leave it hanging in the air. And that's why I think guys love sports because it's a thing happening. They're like, hey, you want to come over and watch the game?

• 43:11Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 43:11George Kamel?

  It's not weird then.

• 43:12Rachel Cruze?

  That's right.

• 43:13George Kamel?

You want to come over and just stare into the wind?

• 43:14Rachel Cruze?

  Just hang out?

• 43:15George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 43:16Rachel Cruze?

Oh, so good, George. All right. Well, before we spill the T on our guilty as charged segment, let's share the details of the cocktail.

• 43:23George Kamel?

Let's do it. This was the Bourbon Carajillo.

• 43:25Rachel Cruze?

  Carajillo.

• 43:26George Kamel?

  C A R A J I L L O.

• 43:29Rachel Cruze?

  What do you rate it?

• 43:30George Kamel?

I'm gonna go nine out of 10 on this one.

• 43:32Rachel Cruze?

  Mm hmm.

• 43:32George Kamel?

If I got this at a restaurant or at a fancy coffee shop, I would be impressed.

• 43:38Rachel Cruze?

I'm gonna go seven out of 10.

• 43:40George Kamel?

Is it the coffee for you in there?

• 43:41Rachel Cruze?

It's fine. No, I like it. It's fine. I just don't know if it'd be like my first order, but it tasted good.

• 43:45George Kamel?

It, it would be a great after dinner drink if you need to pick me up.

• 43:49Rachel Cruze?

See, I think I would go espresso martini.

• 43:50George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 43:51Rachel Cruze?

  Over this.

• 43:52George Kamel?

But I think for the men out there.

• 43:54Rachel Cruze?

  Uh huh.

• 43:54George Kamel?

This is like a manlier version.

• 43:56Rachel Cruze?

Oh, there's, that's a good way of putting it.

• 43:57George Kamel?

You know, it's like chewing tobacco.

• 44:00Rachel Cruze?

  Tobacco.

• 44:01George Kamel?

It's like dip, but in a cocktail. It's got espresso, bourbon, liquor 43, which is spelled L I C O R. And it's from Spain. It's kind of a citrusy herbal liquor. Angostura bitters and an orange slice. Comes out to $3.83 per glass. So Rachel wins. I guessed 438. You were like 426.

• 44:22Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, I was lower. Yep. So good.

• 44:24George Kamel?

So it's a pricier one, but it's, it's very, it feels very high end cocktail bar. So shout out to our mixologist, Michael.

• 44:31Rachel Cruze?

  Well done, Michael.

• 44:32George Kamel?

Get the recipe in the show notes. Give it a try this weekend if you're of age.

• 44:36Rachel Cruze?

All right, now it's time for

• 44:38George Kamel?

  Guilty as charged.

• 44:40Rachel Cruze?

And this is where we ask each other a guilty as charged question every week. And if we're guilty, we take a sip. All right, George, question is, have you ever been at a casual friend hang that ended dramatically? Dun dun dun.

• 44:54George Kamel?

A hundred percent. There was one that your brother was involved in.

• 44:57Rachel Cruze?

  No way.

• 44:58George Kamel?

So we were playing a game, Secret Hitler, where it's, it's not pro Hitler, just so everyone's aware. But you have all these cards and one of you is Hitler and the rest are trying to take Hitler down.

• 45:08Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 45:08George Kamel?

But the person who's Hitler is trying to-

• 45:10Rachel Cruze?

It's kind of like the mafia. That's what we play.

• 45:11George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 45:12Rachel Cruze?

  Mafia.

• 45:12George Kamel?

So you kind of have this bluff of like, no, I'm not Hitler. Like, I bet it's that guy. And so it's a very strategic game. You have to be very persuasive.

• 45:20Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 45:20George Kamel?

So the goal is to take down Hitler. And if you choose the wrong person who's not Hitler, then Hitler wins.

• 45:26Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, man.

• 45:26George Kamel?

  Not the goal.

• 45:27Rachel Cruze?

We don't want that. We don't want that.

• 45:29George Kamel?

So I'm trying to convince the group with all my might that I truly am not Hitler. And I'm like, guys, I don't know how to explain. And your brother played it so smooth, so coy.

• 45:43Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, no.

• 45:43George Kamel?

And convinced everyone that I was the bad guy when he was the bad guy.

• 45:47Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, stop it.

• 45:48George Kamel?

And I was legitimately mad at him after. I was like, I don't know that I can trust you anymore.

• 45:53Rachel Cruze?

  I can't work with you.

• 45:54George Kamel?

Who was this person that maniacally, at a sociopath level, was able to convince everyone that I was the bad guy and he was clean?

• 46:01Rachel Cruze?

  So funny.

• 46:02George Kamel?

  Haven't forgiven them yet.

• 46:03Rachel Cruze?

  That's good.

• 46:04George Kamel?

And then this last one, Supper Club.

• 46:06Rachel Cruze?

  Mm hmm.

• 46:06George Kamel?

I thought it would be a really fun game. This is right before the election.

• 46:10Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, Lord.

• 46:10George Kamel?

To say, hey, everyone go around the table and say who you're voting for and why.

• 46:15Rachel Cruze?

  Jeez George.

• 46:16George Kamel?

It got out of control with the first person and we had to shut it down. It kind of ruined the night.

• 46:20Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, man.

• 46:21George Kamel?

In my head, I thought, because we all know each other well, we know that we have different political spectrum here.

• 46:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 46:27George Kamel?

And I thought we could have a reasonable conversation.

• 46:29Rachel Cruze?

  Yes, yes.

• 46:30George Kamel?

And it would be entertaining. It was.

• 46:32Rachel Cruze?

Here's what I learned, because my hang, it was that too, ended not great because of politics.

• 46:37George Kamel?

  Oh.

• 46:37Rachel Cruze?

But, but the people came back around to each other. Men did the, men did it.

• 46:41George Kamel?

  Oh, good.

• 46:42Rachel Cruze?

But it was not, I mean, yeah, it, it was like offensive, it was hard, offensive, all the things.

• 46:46George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 46:46Rachel Cruze?

All the things. So I've learned, I think, with all of that, it's gotta be a one-on-one conversation. You can't have a group disagreement. If you disagree with someone, you get so much further along in the conversation and actually understand, learn all the things when it's just one-on-one.

• 47:01George Kamel?

  You're right.

• 47:02Rachel Cruze?

And you both have that attitude. If one is stonewalled and they don't care, there's no like curiosity, if you will.

• 47:09George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 47:09Rachel Cruze?

Fun conversation. It's way more fun if you're genuinely like, oh, my gosh, I want to know, what did you think about, like, I want to hear.

• 47:15George Kamel?

I think that's my personality is I'm like, okay, like, I'm just curious.

• 47:19Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 47:19George Kamel?

Versus having a strong opinion and being like, well, if you don't agree with this, then you're wrong.

• 47:23Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally.

• 47:23George Kamel?

So I think I was just more open and I assumed the whole group would be.

• 47:26Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, not everyone is.

• 47:27George Kamel?

Know each other and love each other. And I thought this is a safe, if there ever was a safe place, this would be it. I learned very quickly, danger zone.

• 47:34Rachel Cruze?

  Danger zone.

• 47:35George Kamel?

So that was my conversation grenade.

• 47:37Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 47:37George Kamel?

I just bit that pin and chucked it in there.

• 47:39Rachel Cruze?

Did Winnie like kick you under the table? Was she like?

• 47:41George Kamel?

I think there was a level of like, why would you?

• 47:44Rachel Cruze?

  Why?

• 47:46George Kamel?

But I kind of like picking the fight and then getting in the back and just watching with popcorn. You know what I mean? That's kind of my version of entertainment since I have no hobbies. So forgive me for trying to reason with people and have some fun.

• 47:58Rachel Cruze?

Just have some casual conversation. George, unbelievable.

• 48:02George Kamel?

So yeah, keep your casual friends hang casual. Don't get too serious.

• 48:06Rachel Cruze?
