Encounters x335 - Phone Calls From the Other Side

If your phone rang at 3 a.m. and the caller ID said “Payphone, Rhode Island,” would you answer? This week’s encounters episode dives into haunted phone calls, cursed voicemails, creepy glitches, and spirits who are just one bad connection away. Static-filled voices, phantom landlines, Ouija board fallout, and shadow figures all collide in a collection of listener stories guaranteed to make you think twice before answering an unknown number. Stories include: A listener skips a creepy voicemail segment from the podcast, then immediately receives a garbled call from a bizarre number filled with symbols. A family receives late night calls from a Rhode Island payphone shortly after their payphone loving grandfather passes away. A disconnected landline begins ringing inside an abandoned Kodak factory where workers already felt an overwhelming paranormal presence. A woman is horrified when her deceased abusive ex-boyfriend’s full name and decades-old phone number suddenly appear on her caller ID. Strange calls continue for years and culminate in a raspy voice singing “Happy Birthday” and using the listener’s name on her 21st birthday. Watch the video version here. Ring, ring, ring. Ghost calling.

• 2:12Corinne Vien?

  But like, actually.

• 2:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This is Two Girls One Ghost.

• 2:16Corinne Vien?

  Two Girls One Ghost.

• 2:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And we are Ghosts, this is, that is Corinne.

• 2:20Corinne Vien?

  Hello.

• 2:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Hi, I'm Sabrina, and this episode has nothing to do with phones. I'm just kidding.

• 2:25Corinne Vien?

Could you imagine? Well, people can, because we've started things like that before.

• 2:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  We are psycho.

• 2:30Corinne Vien?

  This is an encounters episode.

• 2:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yes.

• 2:32Corinne Vien?

Where you send emails in about your real life haunted experiences. We pick some and we read them. And this theme is about phone hauntings.

• 2:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Phone calls from the spirits on the other side? Or things happening with your phone?

• 2:47Corinne Vien?

  Anomalies pertaining to the phones.

• 2:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We did an episode a couple of years ago about like haunted phone numbers.

• 2:55Corinne Vien?

  Mm hmm.

• 2:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And after that episode, so many people had hauntings and like weird experiences.

• 3:00Corinne Vien?

Didn't you? I feel like you got some weird.

• 3:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I can't remember, because we've had so many weird experiences.

• 3:06Corinne Vien?

  I know.

• 3:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But I do think I played like a voicemail or something weird on that episode. Like, I'll have to go back and re-listen.

• 3:14Corinne Vien?

It wasn't that like weird podcast, was it?

• 3:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, that was different. I think that was a different episode, but that was also really weird. But after that episode, we got a lot of emails of people having like phone hauntings and being called by like really creepy numbers. And so my first story is that.

• 3:31Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 3:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And it's called, Stop Sending Ghosts To Me.

• 3:35Corinne Vien?

Oh, sorry. No, I feel bad.

• 3:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, this is in 2020, so.

• 3:40Corinne Vien?

  Are you okay now?

• 3:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We don't know. This is from a listener Nancy, and Nancy says, I've been a longtime listener, but I had to take a break from the podcast a couple of times because yeah, it seems like your podcast really is haunted. My friend Tram, shout out, told me about your podcast because we both enjoy spooky stories. And although you guys give me the heebie jeebies, I always come back. So as I was getting hooked on your podcast, it triggered some memories of my childhood that now send shivers down my. My spine. So like I said, I've had a couple of experiences because of your podcast. That one episode you read about the haunted phone numbers came out and I listened on my commute to work and I totally skipped the recording of the scary voicemail that a listener sent in. Thank you for that option because I didn't want to be scared.

• 4:21Corinne Vien?

Now I can't remember what it was. Now I, I want to look back.

• 4:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I know. We'll have to look up what, what episode it was. Jamie will probably have the answer for you in the video on the bottom of the screen right there. And I ended up skipping perfectly, like right on time. I got to work as the episode ended and after hearing Sabrina freak out about listening to that scary voicemail. I was so happy. I didn't listen.

• 4:43Corinne Vien?

Now I want to hear it even more.

• 4:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I was very tempted. I know, but my chicken shit brain said, nope, let's try to have a good day today. Well, guess what? As I was walking to work, I got a phone call from some weird number with symbols in it. I don't remember what it was, but I ignored it and it left a voicemail, which I listened to right away. It was garbled voices and static sounds. I hung up and deleted the voicemail right away. My heart was racing. I was terrified. I was thinking, why? But then I was also wondering if it was the same kind of voicemail that Sabrina had heard sent by the listener. Well, I don't know. I'm never going to go listen to that episode again to find out. I had to take a break after that episode, but I'm back. Don't worry. I'm listening to more episodes.

• 5:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yep.

• 5:27Corinne Vien?

Oh my gosh. I like, I, I don't know what to say. I'm sorry.

• 5:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Should we try to find?

• 5:32Corinne Vien?

That's exactly, okay. I'm going into our right on podcast.

• 5:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm going to search Two Girls and a Ghost.

• 5:38Corinne Vien?

Cursed voicemail from Satan. Was it this?

• 5:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Probably. What episode did we read it on?

• 5:43Corinne Vien?

Oh, I don't, I don't know if this is it. Okay. Episode 111 cursed AF is when you talk about people calling the number 66666. Like that one. Was that?

• 5:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  111?

• 5:55Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 5:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay. I really want to listen to that voicemail, but we can't, we just tried and we could not find what episode. Cause the original episode, we talked about haunted numbers was 111, but I do think we also did like an encounters with like creepy phone things.

• 6:09Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 6:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So if anyone knows specifically.

• 6:13Corinne Vien?

If we find it by the end of this.

• 6:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

If it falls into our inbox, into our laps. We get like a, or if we get a voicemail during this episode, we will play it.

• 6:23Corinne Vien?

  Can you imagine?

• 6:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That would be terrifying. Okay. As I've been listening to your podcast, so now Nancy has other experiences. I have remembered some memories from childhood that I seemingly forgot, which I kind of wish maybe I had. They now send shivers down my spine. So when I was six or seven, I was watching TV when I had a feeling I was being watched, or maybe saw something out of the corner of my eye. And there, standing behind the sofa was a shadow person. Just standing there, no face, no clothes, just a black figure, about six feet tall, standing there. That's not all that was weird. It seemed to be fuzzy, like a static image. And the edges and outline of its body were like even more staticky. Interesting.

• 7:04Corinne Vien?

What I don't like about that is I feel like a lot of shadow people, it's just kind of like you see the shadow and it's unmoving. But when it's staticky, like makes it feel more alive.

• 7:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 7:12Corinne Vien?

Cause there is movement, even though. The figure itself is not moving.

• 7:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But what really terrified me was that once it noticed I had seen it, it jumped down crouching behind the sofa where I couldn't see it anymore. It was like, oops, she saw me. I need to hide real quick. That is terrifying. And when it jumped to crouch down behind the sofa, I actually heard the thud on the hardwood floors.

• 7:37Corinne Vien?

  No, that's the worst part.

• 7:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My heart was racing. I jumped out of my seat and I ran to the other side of the room. And I don't really remember what happened afterwards. I'm now 27. I just know that I was trying to make myself believe it was a bad dream, but I was standing there and it freaked me out.

• 7:53Corinne Vien?

Yeah. You can't even convince yourself at that point that you didn't experience anything. You literally heard the thud.

• 7:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 7:58Corinne Vien?

  Oh gosh. Ooh creepy.

• 8:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Then I had another experience where I saw a shadow person. This time was at night. I think I was eight or nine and I was walking to the bathroom and on the way to the bathroom, you have to pass a laundry room. And this laundry room leads to the garage. The door was open as I passed the laundry room. And as I passed it, I saw the outline of a huge shadow person as tall as the door to the garage. I knew it was very tall because its shape stood out against the white door that led to the garage. And as soon as I walked past it and saw it, I ran back to my uncle to make him go check it out. I can't believe he actually went to go check it out, but he said he didn't see anyone. For the longest time, I tried to repress these memories and make myself believe that it was just a wild imagination. But after hearing all these stories on your podcast, I'm not so sure anymore.

• 8:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, this next story is called Little Girl in My Backyard. So I have a pretty big backyard that is separated by a black gate, but it's fenced in all around with tall wooden fences. One side is a garden and the other side is cement and brick where I like to ride my bike. When I was whatever age, I was riding a tricycle, I would ride into the garden to go off-roading, as I called it. That's so cute. But I'd have to kind of wiggle through the gate door since my tricycle was wide. On this particular day, it was around sunset, and I decided I'm gonna go off-roading before I headed in for dinner. As I was trying to wiggle my way through the gate, I saw a little girl walking through my garden by herself. And in my head, it was so out of place that I just ditched my tricycle at the gate and ran inside my house. My uncle saw me leave my tricycle at the gate and told me to go put it away. And I said I couldn't because

• 9:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

there was a little girl in the backyard and she scared me. You're a creepy kid. Oh. So he went out with me. He went into the garden to look for the little girl while I moved my bike back out of the doorway. And he said he didn't see anything, but I remember thinking to myself, wow, I really wouldn't go check. He's brave. It's weird because there was no way a little girl could get through the garden without going through this area that I had been playing in. Also, I live in a court where there were no other kids or adults with blonde hair and I had never seen her before. Not to mention, she was wearing a white nightgown and dress. Yeah, even little kid me knew she must have been a ghost. So yeah, you've also haunted me other times. I used to listen at home, but I would get a weird feeling of not being alone in my room after listening. So then

• 10:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I would only listen during my one and a half hour commute to work, which was fine, perfect time. But then I would get hooked and want to listen at home. And so instead of getting the heebie-jeebies in my room, I started playing it while I was in the shower. Which also, I feel like is not a good place to listen. That's like where the ghosts like to touch ya.

• 10:28Corinne Vien?

I know. Do you have a skylight or something? I feel like I feel safer when bathrooms have skylights.

• 10:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or like some type of sunlight?

• 10:35Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 10:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But then at night, skylights can be creepy.

• 10:37Corinne Vien?

But then it's way creepier. Yeah, you're right.

• 10:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So my thought process was that I'd be out of the shower and get busy with something else in my room anyway. So I would listen to random episodes or continue listening from previous sessions. But somehow, while I'm in the shower, every time I was listening to your podcast in the shower, a shower ghost story would be read.

• 10:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

At first, I was like, okay, one time scary. But then it started happening every time.

• 11:01Corinne Vien?

Okay, and that's not that frequent. So I feel like

• 11:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  That's a sign.

• 11:05Corinne Vien?

I feel like the ghost in your bathroom is trying to gently expose itself to you?

• 11:13Corinne Vien?

  In like a non-perky way?

• 11:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right. It's using our podcast to let you know it's there.

• 11:17Corinne Vien?

Yeah. Can you please recognize that sometimes I'm in here too?

• 11:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I swear this happened four separate times while I was in the shower. So now I don't listen in the shower anymore. Maybe you guys have a lot of shower stories and it's a coincidence? No.

• 11:27Corinne Vien?

  No, we don't.

• 11:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, and there's like 10 different stories that we've haunted Nancy. But there was one episode where it was a guy that would sleepwalk and talk and it had to do with repetition. Midway through the story, Corinne started glitching on my podcast, saying the same words over and over and over. I wasn't freaked out because I was like, okay, my internet sucks, whatever. But then Sabrina started freaking out about Corinne glitching too. And Corinne did her nervous laugh and glitched and repeated more words. I literally just had to be like, nope. Like, no thanks, Corinne, you're freaking me out right now. I need another break.

• 11:58Corinne Vien?

I hate that. And it just triggered my own memory of on Patreon when

• 12:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, with the Whitney episode?

• 12:05Corinne Vien?

Yeah, when I said like, if I die, if I die, if I die. And I kept glitching. And I was like, oh my god, I'm gonna die.

• 12:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I know. Patreon has a lot of glitches and I don't necessarily think they're haunting. I think it's like the interface.

• 12:18Corinne Vien?

That is true because I've had to start using incognito mode just to do anything on Patreon because otherwise

• 12:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It is haunted. I don't know. Maybe we've haunted all of Patreon.

• 12:27Corinne Vien?

Is it just our specific Patreon page? Like, we can't get to Things are like getting edited, deleted, text is changing. It's like, we're not even doing anything.

• 12:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, I don't know. Anyway, I have so many more encounters, especially from listening to your podcast. Let me know if you want to hear more, Nancy.

• 12:45Corinne Vien?

  Wow, okay.

• 12:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Which is technically flown glitching too because Our podcast is being played on Nancy's phone.

• 12:51Corinne Vien?

Right. I think that there's a lot of spirit intervention here. It's beyond just like a little Sven haunting or something. I think that there's something in Nancy's house. That is just trying, not, not necessarily a bad thing, but just trying to be like,

• 13:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'm here.

• 13:07Corinne Vien?

  Hello.

• 13:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, and also I'm curious if this is the same house that Nancy grew up in, because Nancy talks about the house as if, like in my house, but it could have just been past tense. Cause yeah, shadow figure, little girl, and our podcast is haunting.

• 13:21Corinne Vien?

Oh, the thud. That is so, I, that's gross.

• 13:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

• 15:14Corinne Vien?

This is from Alyssa. Hi spooky friends, my name is Alyssa. I started listening to your podcast recently and now I cannot get through my boring work day without it. As I've been listening, I've been racking my brain thinking if I've ever had an encounter myself. I've always had those feelings, but really just chalk them up to me being scared. And I've never really been into horror or the paranormal. I always get really nervous when I'm watching scary movies.

• 15:40Corinne Vien?

I have had super realistic dreams accompanied by sleep paralysis, but I never thought of it as anything more than that. I'm not religious, but I have always thought that the paranormal must be real. And after hearing some of your listener stories, I know I'm not alone. Okay, so now on to my sweet, short, maybe encounter?

• 16:01Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay. Which most of the time when people say that, it's 100% an encounter.

• 16:05Corinne Vien?

It's obviously an encounter. But if you need room for doubt to make you feel safer.

• 16:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You do you boo.

• 16:12Corinne Vien?

We won't allow it, but you can know out in your own life.

• 16:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You live in delulu land. We will not.

• 16:19Corinne Vien?

I like how we, like some people would be like, that is the most delusional thing to say ever. Oh, you, delusional to not think that you're experiencing ghost stories.

• 16:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Let's rewrite the narrative here.

• 16:29Corinne Vien?

  Yeah, okay.

• 16:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Two girls who spend their entire lives talking about ghosts, we're sane.

• 16:34Corinne Vien?

Yeah, we're the only normal ones here.

• 16:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Everyone else insane.

• 16:39Corinne Vien?

  This is how cults begin.

• 16:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You should disconnect from your family and only focus on us and ghosts and recruit multiple people. We kind of are a cult.

• 16:49Corinne Vien?

But the kind that does let you live your own life however you want. My maternal grandfather's name was Alan. He passed away when I was in middle school. I'm 32 this year. Every Sunday, my grandfather would come over to our home after church to spend time with us. He liked to play a little game with us kids with some spare change that he had on him. He would quickly show my brother and I the amount of change he had in his hand. Then he would close his hand and make us guess how much money it was. Whoever guessed the closest amount won the money. Once he gave us our winnings, he would politely ask for two quarters back. He would say, in case I need to use a payphone on my way home.

• 17:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh.

• 17:27Corinne Vien?

My grandfather's death was incredibly devastating. And to me, it felt very sudden. He was 76 years old. That is sudden. That's still quite young.

• 17:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And also, when you're young, like, you don't understand, like, the age and, like, your parents have spent more time with this person, but you, you're like, just getting to hang out with him.

• 17:46Corinne Vien?

My parents had a moment the other day where, based on someone's age, they were, they called them elderly, and then they were like, oh shit, we're like, two years younger than them.

• 17:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Elderly too.

• 17:55Corinne Vien?

Like, oh my god, we're elderly.

• 17:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Scary.

• 17:59Corinne Vien?

He was 76 years old and quickly declined from dementia. He lived with us until it got too hard for my mom to care for him, and then he lived and died in the nursing home. He was such a sweet man, and we were very close. A few months after he passed away, my parents were out with friends pretty late, and my brother and I were home alone. It was probably around 11 o'clock at night when the phone rang. The caller ID on our house phone said, Payphone, Rhode Island. At this time, our parents had cell phones, so I definitely didn't think it was them calling, but I answered anyway, just in case. When I said hello, there was nobody on the other end of the phone, just silence. I said, hello, again, and there was nothing. So I hung up the phone, and I tried not to think

• 18:41Corinne Vien?

too much about it. About an hour later, the phone rang again. It's now midnight. Again, it says the same thing, Payphone, Rhode Island. I didn't answer. This time, the phone ringing had woken me up and now I'm feeling a little bit scared. Once the phone stopped ringing, there was no voicemail left on our machine. I got out of bed to see if my parents were home yet and their cars were still not in the driveway. So I stayed awake until my parents got home shortly after and then I told them what happened. And they both insisted it must have just been someone calling the wrong number.

• 19:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But then you would have heard them say something.

• 19:14Corinne Vien?

Yeah, and why would they call back again?

• 19:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 19:16Corinne Vien?

  An hour later.

• 19:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 19:18Corinne Vien?

But then I started to wonder, could it have been my grandfather calling from beyond the grave to let us know that he was okay? He was the only person in my life at the time who didn't have a cellphone yet and who still used payphones. I'd like to think that this was him. I still think about him all the time. And I will occasionally have a dream about him that feels like he is visiting me. Since he's passed away, when I see a quarter, I think of him. And I remember the phone ringing in the middle of the night. Anyway, thank you for reading this. See you on the other side, Alyssa.

• 19:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I absolutely believe it was Grandpa Alan, right? For sure. And like they're home alone. He's like, I gotta check on them. Yeah.

• 19:57Corinne Vien?

They're like waiting up for their parents to get home and he's like, I'm just gonna call and check in.

• 20:01Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And like the memories, like so specific of when they would play that game. He always asked for two quarters back in case he needed a payphone. Like that's such a specific characteristic of Grandpa Alan.

• 20:13Corinne Vien?

  Two quarters, two calls.

• 20:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. Wait, there was a video I saw recently on TikTok where this guy bought old phone booths and like refurbished them and basically made them work. And he put one in front of like a fast food restaurant. And he put another at like a retirement home. And it only calls each other.

• 20:31Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 20:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And so he was like trying to force like younger people to have conversations with elderly.

• 20:37Corinne Vien?

  Oh, that's really sweet.

• 20:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 20:39Corinne Vien?

That is so sweet. They like make versions of that now for phones that you can like pre-program for kids to use like the old kind of wired-ish phones. But I think you pre-program them with certain people's numbers so they can call their relatives.

• 20:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Or like their girlfriends.

• 20:54Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 20:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Like only them.

• 20:56Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 20:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I miss a landline for that.

• 20:59Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 21:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Purpose. And also like our phones are just like, we're, we're consuming too much.

• 21:04Corinne Vien?

And we, we truly had to make an effort to have like real conversations. Like if you wanted to know if your friend wanted to come over, you're not sending them a text. You're not looking at find my friends to see where they are. Like, you are calling them, you're asking, first of all, you had their number memorized.

• 21:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 21:20Corinne Vien?

And then you're asking their parents or older siblings or whoever picks up to speak with them. You're declaring who you are and then asking to speak with them and stating your intentions.

• 21:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What are your intentions?

• 21:31Corinne Vien?

  Yes.

• 21:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Um, and then you could also listen in on people's conversations.

• 21:34Corinne Vien?

And people used to just like drop by.

• 21:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I know. Okay. I was wondering like how I have an affinity for USPS and like the idea of getting snail mail is like, I feel like everyone loves to get a letter, like a handwritten letter in the mail. Like there's something nostalgic, there's something really special about it. Do you think we'll have that? Cause I feel like, and I admit like I also, there are times where I do not want to talk on the phone. But do you think we'll get to a point where like getting a phone call is like a really special thing?

• 22:00Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 22:01Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Where you're like, oh, I love when people call me. I love when people call me. Although like it has to be when I want to talk to someone on the phone, cause if I'm in a bad mood. But now like I know people don't love talking on the phone, but I get to like moments where I'm like, I can't text about this. Like it's just too much. So I'll be like, hey, can I call you? Like I have to ask permission to call.

• 22:20Corinne Vien?

Yeah. I don't know. Cause I feel like I'm getting to the point, like I feel like I used to be that way, but now I'm getting to the point where it's like, texting is so much more effort to like constantly go and respond and remember.

• 22:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause it's like one conversation over hours.

• 22:34Corinne Vien?

Yeah. Like I almost feel like I do take phone calls more, but it's like, I speak to a friend every like eight weeks or something and we're catching up for like an hour.

• 22:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right. And it's kind of better than like the texts that you could have over.

• 22:47Corinne Vien?

  We get way more information.

• 22:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. So I have one from our listener Mara and it's called ghost phone call at my job. Hello lovely ladies. I want to start this email with a little background. I never saw ghosts when I was little, but my sister did. Instead, I was just fascinated by the paranormal at a very young age. And in high school that wore off until my senior year, when I got into your podcast and the podcast Ghosties, which we did a collab with. Around the same time, I regained this interest. Something happened at my job.

• 23:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I work on a small lake and I clean boats in the summer. I feel like this is the perfect setting for a ghost story. It was my first week there and they had been dropping me off at our location where we hold the boats to be cleaned and summarized. The building is an old abandoned Kodak factory, which is basically just a huge parking garage attached to abandoned old offices and photo labs. Also, perfect location for hauntings. So it's a five-minute drive from our actual location and it has no service. So it's a little anxiety-inducing being out there by yourself. On my second day of the job, I was dropped off early in the morning. I put in my AirPods and I started cleaning one of the many boats I was assigned. This boat was located in front of the doorway, leading to a dark hallway of the abandoned offices.

• 24:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I kept looking down that hall, like I had this feeling like someone was there. The deck of the boat was right in front of the door. And so at one point I had to have my back turned to the door and I could literally hear my heart in my ears. And the fear was all I could focus on. I didn't understand why I was so freaked out, but it got so bad that I straight up panicked and ran outside to get service and asked to be picked up.

• 24:25Corinne Vien?

  Oh my god.

• 24:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 24:28Corinne Vien?

That's when you, like if everything in your body is telling you that this is super scary and you need to leave, that's, listen to your intuition.

• 24:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Trust your instincts. Later I went back and met the only other female worker who was just a few years older than me. She told me the older guys told her how I was scared there. And she then reassured me that in all the years she's worked there, she hasn't dealt with anything frightening. And she was pretty down to earth, so I did feel a lot better. Eventually, we decided to go divide and conquer the boats that we had. We went back to this area and we both had our headphones on, listening to music. One of us had the vacuum, so it was pretty loud in that area. In the midst of cleaning, I could hear a phone ringing through my AirPod. And I wondered why she wasn't answering her phone. So I took out my headphones and said, hey, you gonna answer that? To which she looked at me and said, I thought that was your phone.

• 25:13Corinne Vien?

  Just a phantom phone.

• 25:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We jumped and we ran to her car in fear, realizing that that phone call was coming from inside the building. We thought maybe someone was in the building, which is scary.

• 25:24Corinne Vien?

Oh, like someone else's phone ringing in their pocket, not realizing?

• 25:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That their, like their phone's giving away that they're there.

• 25:29Corinne Vien?

  Yes.

• 25:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That was when I realized the ringing was coming from the dark hallway that I was scared of earlier. We drove back to our main location and grabbed one of the older men to bring back with us in case someone was loitering and potentially dangerous. We walked all of the hall, which was long, dark, filled with furniture and tons of doorways. And at the very end of the hall was a landline.

• 25:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And that's when it clicked. The ringing that I had sound was 100% coming from a landline.

• 25:58Corinne Vien?

  Who was calling though?

• 26:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Very black phone.

• 26:01Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 26:01Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I picked up the phone off of the landline and it was completely disconnected. There was no noise, nothing, no dial tone, nothing. But ever since this happened, I can't stop thinking about it and how scared I felt earlier. And then for that to happen hours later, I do believe my intuition was warning me of something. And what makes it crazier is that she was completely distraught because nothing like that had ever happened until I showed up.

• 26:24Corinne Vien?

  Oh my god.

• 26:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Later I found out from another coworker that our second location has had ghost hunters come investigate it. And there were old cars that would be randomly moved into different areas of the parking garage.

• 26:37Corinne Vien?

  What?

• 26:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That's weird. Anyway, thanks for reading my story, Mara. Like, are they abandoned cars that have been left there and then sometimes they move spots?

• 26:46Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 26:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or is someone parking their cars there and like moving them around?

• 26:50Corinne Vien?

Or is there like some secret society dark shit happening that you're, you have no clue?

• 26:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Like what's happening at night?

• 26:56Corinne Vien?

Yeah. And there's just like small little bits and pieces happening.

• 27:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, that's so creepy.

• 27:01Corinne Vien?

Which actually kind of reminds me of some of the stuff that we, I can't remember when this comes out, but we might've already talked about it. But the May Patreon bonus episode?

• 27:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  This comes out later.

• 27:11Corinne Vien?

  Undercover, underground activities, hidden.

• 27:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Ooh, so you guys gotta go listen to the May Patreon bonus if you want to hear about that.

• 27:19Corinne Vien?

But dang, that is really scary. And I totally understand like the fear of being like, oh my god, someone else is in the building.

• 27:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right, but then what if they, what if they had realized it was a landline in the moment? What would have happened if they picked up the phone?

• 27:30Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 27:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause it does sound, it does feel like something is trying to get their attention or try to like speak to them.

• 27:38Corinne Vien?

The owner of the car. Hey, can you move my car for me?

• 27:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Before it gets towed?

• 27:43Corinne Vien?

  Geez.

• 27:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It's creepy.

• 27:44Corinne Vien?

  That is very creepy.

• 27:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  That's all I know.

• 27:46Corinne Vien?

Okay, I have one that's like, it's a little bit sad, a little bit dark.

• 27:49Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh.

• 27:50Corinne Vien?

I might skip over a couple of sentences.

• 27:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 27:53Corinne Vien?

My phone call from beyond the grave, and this is sent in by our listener Diane. In college, I dated Todd, a strange guy who turned out to be violent and abusive.

• 28:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, I'm sorry.

• 28:05Corinne Vien?

  He slut shamed me.

• 28:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh.

• 28:08Corinne Vien?

He worshipped his ex-girlfriend. He made me feel worthless. I always had really low self-esteem, and this was back in the 1980s when women were not as empowered as they are today. Now, there's a sisterhood, but back then it really did feel like you were on your own. Todd would say things to me like he'd followed me home from school or work or wherever, and then I better not ever look at another man. He told me he would kill me and put my body in a vat of acid so no one would ever find me. He was a powerlifter and he also may have been on steroids at the time, but he denied it.

• 28:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What the, I hate that people like this exist.

• 28:43Corinne Vien?

I know. Yeah, so terrifying. He was friends with Jim. Jim and I had been friends for a while while I was dating Todd, and our friendship developed into love eventually, and then we got married. Todd was pissed. He felt so betrayed by us and he was so angry and so very bitter. Over the years, Todd would still call me and he would say things like, I see you're getting fat. Or some other stuff that I'm not gonna repeat that's extremely dark.

• 29:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Report him to the police.

• 29:14Corinne Vien?

He usually called around mine and Jim's anniversary, or his birthday, or other dates significant only to him. And he would try to guilt or shame me for different things from over the years and, you know, for the first few years it did affect me, but after a while I was so over it and I was so over him.

• 29:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You know what makes me so mad is that there's no Like punishment for people unless they do a crime and commit a crime.

• 29:39Corinne Vien?

Stalking is one of the scariest crimes to happen because I feel like the intervention for stalking.

• 29:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's like, whoa, whoa, we can't do anything unless he does something. And it's like.

• 29:50Corinne Vien?

Well, it's usually too late then.

• 29:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right. That's what I mean. And like the fact that this man is has threatened that he would kill her and put her body in a vat of acid.

• 29:58Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 29:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

If someone makes threats like that, and that's not a joke, that's a very real threat. Like there, there should be some type of intervention that happens at that stage.

• 30:08Corinne Vien?

Yeah, I know. I agree with you. And she, she does say several homes and phone number changes later. So she's like trying to.

• 30:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  He's like fully stalking her.

• 30:16Corinne Vien?

Yes. I finally stopped hearing from him and then he disappeared off the map. And for me, this was so great.

• 30:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 30:23Corinne Vien?

After a number of years, Jim and I did get a divorce, but we remain extremely close friends and we even live together. So social media happened and I blocked several people that I never want to hear from. And Todd had not been on my mind in years. I didn't even think of blocking him when I first got my account. Every now and then Jim would ask me to look up some old friend or work acquaintance with him. And I finally thought to look up Todd. He didn't have any social media accounts, so I couldn't block him. So I decided I should Google him and see if I can find him. So I could block him from ever contacting me again. And that's when I found his obituary.

• 30:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, wow.

• 31:00Corinne Vien?

I was stunned and confirmed with Jim that it was him. For the first time in decades, I felt like I could finally relax and I could breathe again.

• 31:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Wow.

• 31:10Corinne Vien?

I had always been braced for that time that the other shoe would drop, but now I knew it was never going to happen. Phew, what a relief. So one night last year, close to mine and Jim's former anniversary date. We were sitting in the living room, watching TV when the phone rang. I have phone service through my cable company. So whenever someone calls, their name and number pop up on the TV screen. Todd's full name and 30 year old phone number popped up on the screen. What the actual fuck? My heart stopped. I could not breathe. And my body was tingling from the top of my head, down to my toes, to my fingers, in the way that you would only feel like when someone is watching you.

• 31:53Corinne Vien?

But you're willing yourself not to acknowledge them to please look the other way. I look over to Jim. He looks at me. We both turned back to the TV to see the name and number as it continues to ring. And we keep looking back and forth between the TV and each other. We both ask each other, are you seeing this? Is this really happening? My phone was in the bedroom and I was way too scared to move and I wasn't really sure if I wanted to even answer the phone and talk to whoever or whatever was on the other line.

• 32:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 32:19Corinne Vien?

We tried to continue the night as normal, but we just could not stop thinking about what just happened. Like that was so weird. So the next morning, Jim called the funeral home where Todd's funeral had been held and confirmed that yes, the funeral really did occur. He was actually able to talk his way into having them send over a death certificate for us to confirm that he was really in the grave.

• 32:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, so.

• 32:43Corinne Vien?

Which like the trauma that that man created.

• 32:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 32:46Corinne Vien?

For Diane, but also for Jim to be like, no, no, no, we need to know that this man is dead.

• 32:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like, I wouldn't put it past someone like that to fake their death or like do something like that to to like give you a false sense of.

• 32:58Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 32:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Relief.

• 32:59Corinne Vien?

Yeah. Jim also called the number the next day and got a recording saying the number that had called me was not in service. So who or what called? What did they want to say? I kinda hope I never find out.

• 33:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, you didn't. Don't give even spirit version of Todd the time of day.

• 33:19Corinne Vien?

No, and this is from Diane.

• 33:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Diane. Well, I'm so sorry, but I'm also so glad that you have Jim. Whatever your relationship is clearly like you guys are such good friends.

• 33:31Corinne Vien?

They're like best friends and I love that. Like sometimes, you know.

• 33:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Marriage puts pressure on things that.

• 33:35Corinne Vien?

Right. And like best friends are supposed to be best friends and sometimes it gets confused and you end up in a relationship. And then if you if you're supposed to be best friends, you get to go back to being best friends.

• 33:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 33:44Corinne Vien?

And I like know people whose parents are like still best friends after being divorced, have lived together.

• 33:49Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, definitely.

• 33:50Corinne Vien?

  It's really lovely.

• 33:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

For her and Jim to both have gone through this and to have each other in this moment. Like, I feel like they can understand it better than if like Diane was with someone random, you know?

• 34:02Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 34:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

When that happened or by herself.

• 34:04Corinne Vien?

  Right.

• 34:04Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But geez, Todd. Rest in death. Go, go away.

• 34:10Corinne Vien?

  Let it go.

• 34:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Leave everyone alone.

• 34:13Corinne Vien?

Really, after this many years, decades later, you're gonna spend your energy in the afterlife trying to torment someone else?

• 34:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Go away, Todd.

• 34:21Corinne Vien?

Who hasn't thought about you in a very long time.

• 34:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Wild. That is scary.

• 34:26Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 34:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Whew, okay.

• 35:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, I have a story from our listener, Brienne, and it's phone calls from the beyond. Hey spooky ladies, my name is Brienne. I'm a new fan of the podcast. It just popped up on my YouTube a couple of days ago and I've been binging ever since. I have a story that happened to me a couple of years ago where I was getting phone calls from, I don't know, maybe the other side? So for background, I was 18 at the time and I lived with my friends from high school in an apartment. And very stupidly, my friends and I were interested in the paranormal and ghost hunting and all of the things. That part's not the stupid part, this part's the stupid part. We would visit a notoriously haunted cemetery in our area and one night we decided to bring a Ouija board with us to the cemetery.

• 36:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We followed all the rules of the Ouija board, which, you know, looking back, I wasn't that stupid, but I probably shouldn't have done it in the cemetery, or maybe not at all. But I can't change the past. That night, we used the Ouija board in the cemetery and we did not make contact with anyone, as far as we knew. We packed up and we left and went home, thinking we hadn't found anything. We reviewed the pictures we took that night and there was nothing in them. We didn't feel like we were being watched, nothing, truly nothing weird like. That. But then a couple nights later, I went to my parents' house. I was having a sleepover with my little sister. And while I was in her room, it was like late at night around 10, I got a phone call and it was a local number, local area code. And I answered it because I thought maybe somebody I knew and didn't have their number saved was calling.

• 36:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I answered the call and on the other line, it kind of sounded like a scam call with a voice that was robotic. But it did sound like a person. Something wasn't right about it. Like it didn't sound fully human, but it also didn't sound fully robotic. And they were saying really insulting things, like mean things. So it wasn't a scam call where they were trying to sell me something. It was someone truly saying insulting words to me. And I was like, oh, okay, whatever. Some kid's prank calling, whatever. So whoever's on the other line talked for a few seconds and hung up. My sister and I were like, oh, that's weird. Why would someone do that? But whatever, wasn't a big deal. But probably 15 to 20 minutes later, I got another phone call. Same thing. A local number. I'm not sure if it was the same number.

• 37:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But again, not quite human voice, sounded like a scam call, like a teenager playing a prank call. But it was, again, being really mean. So my sister was like, I'm going to go get dad. So she went, got my dad and he came back in, took the phone and said, this is my daughter's phone. I'm not really sure why you're calling her, but you need to leave her alone. I know you called before. No voice spoke back, but whoever was on the other end hung up. So we're all sitting there for a few minutes and I texted a group chat I had with my roommates and said, hey, I just got this really weird phone call. You guys wouldn't believe it, but here's what we really wouldn't believe. Both those other girls had gotten phone calls very similar to the one I had gotten within minutes of me getting these phone calls.

• 38:21Corinne Vien?

So who, did anyone know that they were together?

• 38:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

At the cemetery? I don't know, because they're not together in this moment.

• 38:27Corinne Vien?

  Oh, oh shit.

• 38:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah. So it's the roommate.

• 38:30Corinne Vien?

I was thinking, okay, like I have been there at like a girl's sleepover where you know, like you're calling like a couple of people that you have crushes on. And it gets a little too late and the parent says,

• 38:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  No.

• 38:41Corinne Vien?

  Stop calling.

• 38:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This is like, she's 18 years old and going back home to have a sleepover with her sister. Her and her roommates are all alone in separate places.

• 38:51Corinne Vien?

I didn't realize that they had separated at this point.

• 38:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 38:54Corinne Vien?

Okay, that, yeah, that is freaky.

• 38:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So my parents immediately say, this must be paranormal.

• 39:01Corinne Vien?

I love that. I love that.

• 39:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My dad brought in a camera and set it up and he's like, if it calls again, I'll answer and we'll get it on camera. So maybe an hour goes by and I get another call and I pick it up. My dad answers and this time he just lets it talk. Local number, same kind of voice. This time it's something about a dog pooping in their yard and if you don't get your dog out of my yard, I'm going to kill it. My dad just listened and it kept talking. And then after like 20 seconds, it stopped and hung up, but we got it on camera. I told my roommates I got another call, so she's texting her roommate saying, I just got another one.

• 39:34Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 39:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

One of my other roommates had also gotten another call that night, but the other one didn't. After that, I didn't get any other calls. We were scared, but we calmed down and we went to bed.

• 39:43Corinne Vien?

I'm like racking my brain as to how someone could have all of their numbers and know that they were at the cemetery, like,

• 39:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 39:49Corinne Vien?

It has to be paranormal because it's not just some random guy who like is stalking one of them. Like, how do you have everyone's number?

• 39:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't know. So for the next couple of months, maybe three or four months, we kept getting calls like this. Always a local number, always with a voice that wasn't quite right, kind of robotic, kind of human, kind of sounded like a prank call, but it was always mean or insulting, like picking on you or threatening you, always. Never nice, it was never neutral. So arguably the weirdest part was we never got a call when all three of us were in the same room.

• 40:21Corinne Vien?

This is so weird. Like I'm not, I'm like not yet convinced that it's not a person. Like I'm waffling in between.

• 40:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I know, but it's, whatever it is, it's really fricking weird.

• 40:31Corinne Vien?

  It's very pretty little liars.

• 40:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yes. It never called when all three of us were in the same room together. So at one point during this four months, one of my roommates ended up moving out with her boyfriend. So it was just me and the other girl left in our apartment. But the girl who had moved out got a lot of calls even after she moved out. We had a friend who was a medium and we told him what was going on and he went to the cemetery with us. He said, he didn't really feel anything attached to us or coming through, but he said that whatever was happening did have like a negative energy to it and sounded negative. And that we shouldn't feed it. If it calls, don't answer. So we stopped answering. But one time, our medium friend asked what it sounded like and he wanted to hear what it sounded like. So the next time it called, I picked up and I took a video of it to send

• 41:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

to him. It truly never lasted more than thirty to forty seconds. And if you would speak to it, it wouldn't answer you, it wouldn't address you. Like, it truly felt like it was an automated type of thing. Anyway, at a certain point, we thought it was over because it started to fizzle out. We didn't really have any other experiences other than the phone calls. And slowly, they happened less and less. And then a couple of weeks after, somebody got the last call, or what we thought was the last call, I was fishing with my mom, my current roommate, and my sisters, and I got a call. And because it had been a while, I decided to pick up. As soon as I picked it up, my mom knew what it was. And she asked what it was saying, so I put it on speaker. It was a guy saying something about a drug deal and how they're gonna meet me at the spa, and if you don't have my stuff, I'm gonna shoot you. My mom

• 42:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

said, let's just pack up and leave. So we packed up all of our gear, we drove away, and that was it. I truly didn't get a phone call like this for, I don't know, two, maybe two and a half years. And then well after I moved out, I'm no longer friends with either of those roommates, I moved out of my parents' house and I lived with my fiance. This was all an old part of my life. I had truly forgotten about it. Then, a couple of weeks before I turned twenty-one, I was sitting on my couch at my parents' house, and I got a phone call. I answered it because I truly didn't even think of my experience from years prior. As soon as I picked up the call and said hello, my mom saw my face, and she goes, it's one of those calls, isn't it? I put it on speaker, and I don't remember what it said, but it was the same thing. It really felt like a prank call. And I reached out to the other

• 42:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

two girls who I'd lived with back then, even though I really hadn't talked to them in a few years, but I said, hey, just a warning, I got one. I don't know if you guys will too. A few days went by, and I got another one, and then I got another one. So I stopped answering. Same thing like last time, when I didn't give it any intention, it slowly was over. Until I got another call. We were out on my twenty-first birthday, and I went out with my parents and my boyfriend at the time, now fiance, and we were at Hibachi. I was having a drink, it was a great night, when my phone rang, and I picked it up, because I thought it was someone calling to tell me happy birthday. As soon as I picked it up, I knew I had made a mistake. Because this time, it was that same voice, but it was raspy and old, singing happy birthday to me.

• 43:26Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 43:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

They sang happy birthday for maybe 25 seconds. They used my name. And once they were done singing, it just hung up. I was terrified. I dropped my phone on the table. I almost fell out of the chair. But I didn't let it ruin my night. I got drunk like a girl should on her 21st birthday and had a great time. And I think that was the last time I ever got a phone call, or as far as I know. So I still don't know what this was, but it all started like two days after we had used a Ouija board in the cemetery. Did something follow us home? Did we accidentally sign up for something? Was someone stalking us? I really don't know, but it definitely feels paranormal. All the love, Brienne.

• 44:05Corinne Vien?

It's so weird. Like, my mind is going a million places for this, because I'm like, okay, when there are scam calls, the more you pick up, the more they call.

• 44:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  The more they call, yeah.

• 44:14Corinne Vien?

But there's two issues with that. One is that if they respond, it's like, it's not acknowledging. So it's like, what's the point of a scam if you're not actually collecting information from anyone?

• 44:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 44:25Corinne Vien?

And the other girls at the cemetery that night also were receiving the same thing. So it's like, that's strange. Then I started thinking about those services that like used to be a prank thing where like you could put someone's number and they would get blasted out to all these like fake things.

• 44:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  So evil. Don't do that.

• 44:42Corinne Vien?

Yeah, but basically it's like people would get bombarded with all these like random, like stupid calls and texts or whatever that weren't real. But again, then it goes back to like those girls, like they were all together. I don't know.

• 44:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And the last one being the same voice now singing happy birthday to her, like.

• 45:00Corinne Vien?

  Yeah, that's weird.

• 45:01Sabrina Deana-Roga?

That feels so targeted, where the other ones could be scam calls.

• 45:05Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 45:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I don't, it's so weird.

• 45:07Corinne Vien?

  Mm-hmm.

• 45:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I don't like it.

• 45:09Corinne Vien?

  Because it's not your average.

• 45:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This is why you don't answer unknown numbers.

• 45:12Corinne Vien?

  Call.

• 45:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. If you don't have a number saved, let it go to voicemail. If it's something really important, they will.

• 45:17Corinne Vien?

  They'll text you.

• 45:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Or they'll leave you a voicemail. Or they'll text you because I feel like, actually, the text scams have been getting really crazy, too.

• 45:23Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 45:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I had one, and usually they're like the SMS messages. But recently I got an iMessage one.

• 45:30Corinne Vien?

  You did?

• 45:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, and it was like, my life feels empty without you. I literally thought it was my ex, so I sent a screenshot and I was like, is this from you? And he was like, no.

• 45:40Corinne Vien?

They're really playing on people's emotions.

• 45:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 45:43Corinne Vien?

Oh, my god. Because, yeah, there will be a lot that'll be like, oh, wait, I have to cancel dinner. Or like, can you add so and so to the reservation? Like, things like that.

• 45:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, there's so many.

• 45:50Corinne Vien?

That are just trying to get you to respond to know that it's an active number.

• 45:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

The scariest ones are there's a warrant out for your arrest. Based on like a unpaid toll ticket or like a parking ticket.

• 46:00Corinne Vien?

Oh, my god, I've been getting so many, well, I told you this already.

• 46:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 46:03Corinne Vien?

That I get so many, it's the recent target for me where it's like unpaid toll, if you don't pay this. And it's for a toll in Vermont, which I'm like.

• 46:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Where there are no.

• 46:12Corinne Vien?

There are no tolls in Vermont.

• 46:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 46:15Corinne Vien?

You can't catch me on this one.

• 46:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But it knows, because your phone number is a Vermont number.

• 46:20Corinne Vien?

Yeah, yeah, I have my like OG.

• 46:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's sending it to like all the Vermont numbers because I get a lot of them for New Jersey because my number is a New Jersey number. But my, like, even says like your New Jersey plates and I'm like, but I have California plates, so that's where.

• 46:32Corinne Vien?

  You can't catch us.

• 46:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know you fake.

• 46:35Corinne Vien?

  I know you fake, man.

• 46:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know you fake. Damn.

• 46:39Corinne Vien?

Oh, that actually just triggered memory. We used to get, when my parents had a landline, we used to get so many. We think that they were scam calls, we actually have no idea because it would all be in Vietnamese. Because our last name VN is also, it's a French last name, but it's also a Vietnamese last name. So I think we got put on a bunch of lists.

• 46:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Interesting.

• 46:59Corinne Vien?

And so they'd be like, kind of lovely, it'd be like. Rhythmic, there'd be music in the background. We have no idea what they're asking us for.

• 47:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Interesting.

• 47:07Corinne Vien?

But yeah, we used to get a ton of Vietnamese war scrolls. I wish I had them so we could translate what they were looking for now.

• 47:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

This feels so unrelated, but that reminded me and triggered a memory for me. When we used to go to Montreuil in Canada.

• 47:20Corinne Vien?

  Mm hmm.

• 47:21Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  We.

• 47:22Corinne Vien?

  So pretty.

• 47:22Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's so, it's like the most beautiful place, but we would go during the winters and we were young. And we stayed at the Westin and they had a feature like on the phones in the hotel rooms. That was bedtime stories.

• 47:34Corinne Vien?

  Oh.

• 47:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And you press the button and it was like a human voice reading you a bedtime story.

• 47:40Corinne Vien?

It's like what the hatch does now.

• 47:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Speaker of the, of the phone.

• 47:43Corinne Vien?

  Like a Tony box.

• 47:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 47:45Corinne Vien?

  But that's really lovely.

• 47:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It was really, really nice.

• 47:46Corinne Vien?

Ahead of, ahead of the times.

• 47:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right. Yeah.

• 47:49Corinne Vien?

That, that was them really thinking of like, how do we give a vacation to the parents too? No bedtime stories.

• 47:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I have two phone hauntings. One's personal. I've shared them both. No, I've shared them both on the podcast before.

• 48:00Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 48:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But I'll put them here as well because some people listen to random episodes and don't hear it all. But so the first one was when my, it's not my story, but it's my grandmother's story. I actually have three.

• 48:11Corinne Vien?

I remember one of yours specifically.

• 48:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  The, from the house?

• 48:14Corinne Vien?

  No, the hotel.

• 48:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Oh, that's, that's one I was gonna share. Okay.

• 48:17Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 48:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, I'll start with my grandma's. So it was, my grandfather had passed away. And every night after he passed away, my grandmother started getting a phone call, same time every single night. But when she would like go to pick up the phone, the ringing would have stopped. Then finally on like the third night, the phone rang and she realized it was her cellphone. And so she picked it up and on the other end was like static, but it kind of sounded like voices were trying to come through. And it was like very weird. She falls back to sleep. This is around like 3am. It's like middle of the night.

• 48:47Corinne Vien?

  Wow.

• 48:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And the next morning she looks at the number that had called and it was her number with the number seven in front of it. And the phone calls literally happened every single night, the exact same time for I think like four days. But we believe it was like the time that my grandfather had actually passed away.

• 49:04Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 49:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And he was like trying to like.

• 49:06Corinne Vien?

I hope that it was like I I hope that it would make sense.

• 49:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 49:10Corinne Vien?

  That would make the most.

• 49:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

There was some negative vibes from it.

• 49:13Corinne Vien?

I know, but just like the pattern of of every time she in the beginning when she tried to answer the phone.

• 49:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 49:19Corinne Vien?

It's stopping. I'd be like, who's watching me through the.

• 49:21Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, because it was like she would wake because her landline was downstairs. So she would wake up to the ringing and she'd be like, that's weird. Why is someone calling me late at night? But she also like left her cell phone downstairs. So she'd have to like go walk to go downstairs and like.

• 49:35Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 49:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

By the time she would like get up to go, it would stop ringing.

• 49:38Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 49:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So it was like a normal amount of.

• 49:40Corinne Vien?

  She was.

• 49:41Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  No.

• 49:41Corinne Vien?

Hand on the receiver about to.

• 49:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  No.

• 49:44Corinne Vien?

  Answer.

• 49:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And then, okay, my second one, this one's creepy. When we were looking at a house, this is when I was like in eighth grade. My family was moving. We were looking at a house in Princeton, New Jersey. We were looking at like three different houses and we were between a couple. My dad like traveled overseas a lot, so he hadn't been to see the two houses we were like between. So he comes home and goes with us to go see one of the houses. This beautiful, brand new build. It's like tucked away, kind of in the woods, stunning.

• 50:15Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 50:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But weird vibes.

• 50:18Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 50:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And we all kind of felt it, but like we didn't really think too much of it. And I think before this.

• 50:22Corinne Vien?

Is this the one that your dad was like, there's no way we're living here?

• 50:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. But so before this one time we went to go see the house, every time we had gone to the house was during the day. This time we went at night, so the feeling was even creepier. We're in the house.

• 50:36Corinne Vien?

The house is creepy during the day.

• 50:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 50:38Corinne Vien?

A beautiful new build and you get creepy feelings during daylight hours?

• 50:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, no.

• 50:43Corinne Vien?

  Hard no.

• 50:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We're in the house. My dad immediately is like, because my dad has a lot of paranormal stuff. Immediately is like, no, like there's something really strange about this house. At the time, my mom and dad both had BlackBerries and this is when BlackBerries were mostly for email, not for phone calls too. My mom had left hers in the car. My dad starts getting a call on his BlackBerry. And he like goes to pick up, nothing, puts it away, call again. He looks at it and sees that it's my mom's BlackBerry calling him. My mom's BlackBerry was not set up for phone calls and my mom's BlackBerry was in the car.

• 51:19Corinne Vien?

Okay, I remember you talking about this.

• 51:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I, I feel like my dad was like, we need to get out of here.

• 51:26Corinne Vien?

Which like honestly, your dad was the perfect person to have that happen in that moment because he always seems to have been like pretty spiritually in tune.

• 51:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Mm hmm.

• 51:34Corinne Vien?

And picking up on the right vibes. So good. I'm glad that that did happen. Can you imagine if you grew up there? You already, the second house you guys went to was haunted too. And you lived there. Yeah, that would have been really bad.

• 51:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So much worse. Yeah, but then I brought it up to my mom and my sister recently and they were like, oh my God, we forgot about that. And I was like, yeah, I'm the ghost girl. I'll remember all these.

• 51:54Corinne Vien?

You have to remember most of your stories.

• 51:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But then we looked up the house and it like, all these things are really weird about the house. Like the records of it are weird, like almost as if it was.

• 52:04Corinne Vien?

Like it's trying to cover up how many people have lived there and left?

• 52:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause when you look it up, it says it was built in two thousand eight or something like that. But the year we were looking at it was two thousand seven. So it's almost like after multiple people wouldn't buy it, they like did more construction or like pretended they were still building it. And then the sales records are really weird. Yeah, it's, there's something weird about that house.

• 52:28Corinne Vien?

  Very weird.

• 52:29Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And then my last one is the one that you were thinking of.

• 52:31Corinne Vien?

  The hotel.

• 52:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I was staying at a hotel in Morristown, New Jersey. I was in the room alone and I woke up to the phone ringing and I picked up, not like dial tone. So I hung it up and I like started getting like, like I started feeling weird too.

• 52:45Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 52:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And it's an old hotel. Again, it happens. And I was like, uh, I don't like that. So I called the front desk and I was like, hey, I keep getting phone calls to my room. And they're like, hey, like I'll check in case like another room had accidentally called me or something like that. And according to their phone records, there have been zero calls to my phone.

• 53:03Corinne Vien?

Didn't you unplug the phone the rest of the time?

• 53:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I covered a mirror.

• 53:06Corinne Vien?

  Oh, okay.

• 53:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Cause there was a mirror facing the bed and it freaked me out.

• 53:09Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 53:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I left it plugged in because I was kind of like, how many more times?

• 53:12Corinne Vien?

  Yeah, who's gonna call?

• 53:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 53:14Corinne Vien?

Are they gonna say something the third time?

• 53:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Never called a third time.

• 53:17Corinne Vien?

Very freaky. I know I had some too, but I don't remember them anymore. It's okay. More stuff will happen.

• 53:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?
