• 1:33Speaker 03

Hi, I'm Adriana. I'm 25 years old from Birmingham, Alabama, and this is Financial Audit.

• 1:39Caleb Hammer?

Thanks for coming over from Alabama. What do you do there for a living?

• 1:42Speaker 03

I work in operations support for an industrial supplier company.

• 1:46Caleb Hammer?

  Cool. What do you make?

• 1:47Speaker 03

  $60,000 a year.

• 1:49Caleb Hammer?

It's not bad. Alabama is a lower cost of living state. I don't know about Birmingham specifically, but yeah. I mean, you have to be doing pretty well then, I would think at least. I mean, $25, $60,000 a year, almost meeting household income for the entirety of the United States for the lower cost of living area. You'd be doing pretty okay, but then again, you're on the show. So you're probably not. What's going on?

• 2:12Speaker 03

Uh, well, I have come into this new money. This is probably about two years since I've gotten into it. Still feels new to me.

• 2:20Caleb Hammer?

Oh, you mean your paycheck now, new money in like a terms of a big lump sum?

• 2:24Speaker 03

New, as far as the salary, yeah.

• 2:26Caleb Hammer?

Yes, yes, yes. Well, two years, okay, two years is great.

• 2:29Speaker 03

Yeah, um, I just, I guess I haven't really adjusted myself to it as far as like I've upped my cost of living with it, you know? I haven't kept my expenses the same.

• 2:40Caleb Hammer?

It's okay to up it with the same percentage.

• 2:43Speaker 03

Hmm, no, I think I've been way overdoing it.

• 2:47Caleb Hammer?

  What have you done?

• 2:48Speaker 03

Uh, just spend a lot on anything that I feel like really, I don't really keep a budget on anything.

• 2:54Caleb Hammer?

Why don't you keep a budget? That's kind of like a basic first step if we're kind of going into the world.

• 3:01Speaker 03

Well, also just, yeah, I just bought a new house as well in November, my very first house.

• 3:06Caleb Hammer?

  Congratulations.

• 3:07Speaker 03

So navigating that and my finances has been pretty hard, kind of freaking out about it, about being able to pay for the house and still.

• 3:17Caleb Hammer?

Okay, why would you get a house if you can't pay for the house?

• 3:20Speaker 03

Well, I can pay for the house. It's really, I mean, it's cheaper than my rent was at the time.

• 3:25Caleb Hammer?

  Then what is the issue?

• 3:26Speaker 03

I'd spending money trying to furnish it, getting new stuff to make it a home, I guess. Cause at the rental, I didn't really care what it looked like, but now I've just overdoing it to, cause it's a new house, it's my first house.

• 3:42Caleb Hammer?

Okay, but you know you're overdoing it.

• 3:44Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, um, I just don't really think about it. I just spend the money on it.

• 3:52Caleb Hammer?

Don't think about it. How often are you buying new furniture?

• 3:54Speaker 03

Well, I just bought a new, uh, couch about a month ago.

• 3:58Caleb Hammer?

Furniture is not cheap. I understand, listen, I'm assuming this is your first house, right?

• 4:02Speaker 03

  Yes, very first.

• 4:03Caleb Hammer?

Okay, and that's great. You're buying it before the average person buys their first house in the United States. Huh?

• 4:10Speaker 03

  I just, um.

• 4:11Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so well done. That is good. Why get up? I mean, obviously, listen. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot here. So you're not in a great position. Was this the time to buy a house? Cause that, yes, maybe it's cheaper on a monthly basis, but there's a lot more risk involved. Losing a house is crazy compared to even getting evicted, you know? And then there's also, what happens if you have to replace your roof? What happens if you have to, hey, you have a big leak? What if a frozen pipe bursts?

• 4:44Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 4:45Caleb Hammer?

Property taxes, they endlessly go up. Rent typically endlessly goes up historically, yes, but in hot markets, and I know Alabama can be kind of a relatively hot market recently, I wouldn't be surprised if rents went down for a few years at some point.

• 4:58Speaker 03

Yeah, it was just a really impulsive choice. Like I'd probably spent-

• 5:01Caleb Hammer?

Impulsively bought a house? How do you impulsively buy a, buy a house?

• 5:05Speaker 03

Well, my rent, uh, my, my rent, my lease was running out on the rental. Um, and I didn't really put any thought into like if I wanted to renew it, like it was just really quick. I decided, uh, it was time to buy a house. So, uh, probably-

• 5:19Caleb Hammer?

Sure, time maybe, but what was impulsive? Like, yes, it might be time, but that doesn't mean we're impulsive.

• 5:25Speaker 03

Well, I only spent about a month looking, actually, probably not even a month. I think the whole closing process lasted a month.

• 5:30Caleb Hammer?

How did you decide the house?

• 5:32Speaker 03

Uh, it was in the same neighborhood I'm in, I was renting out of, um, and-

• 5:36Caleb Hammer?

Is that all you cared about?

• 5:38Speaker 03

And it was new construction. Uh, I got, uh, I didn't want to have to DIY anything with a older house. So it's new construction. Everything was already done, just moving, ready. So I did it really quickly.

• 5:53Caleb Hammer?

Okay. How much you spent on furniture so far? You could do, use furniture for a bit, it's fine. My first house, my very first house, because I was focused on building, you know, hopefully a decent nest egg and building my net worth well before starting YouTube. I have a single piece of new furniture in there. In fact, I didn't get a single piece of new furniture until I got my third. That was the very first time I bought my, a new piece of furniture.

• 6:20Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 6:20Caleb Hammer?

  Ever.

• 6:20Speaker 03

  I had to get.

• 6:21Caleb Hammer?

It was a thousand dollar table.

• 6:23Speaker 03

Yeah, I had to get a couch. We didn't have a couch at our rental house, so.

• 6:26Caleb Hammer?

  Yes.

• 6:27Speaker 03

Had to buy a couch for the new house.

• 6:28Caleb Hammer?

But you can get a couch off of Amazon for like a hundred, a couple hundred bucks. Food time for a bit.

• 6:33Speaker 03

Yeah, well, yeah, but we want, I wanted a nice, me and my boyfriend, I live with my boyfriend, but we wanted.

• 6:40Caleb Hammer?

  Does he help subsidize?

• 6:42Speaker 03

  Yeah, yeah, we, we have.

• 6:43Caleb Hammer?

  And what is the issue?

• 6:45Speaker 03

I do, I buy a lot of things. I mean.

• 6:49Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, you said that.

• 6:50Speaker 03

Well, I mean, I get his input on things, but mostly I kind of just make the decisions myself to do the things like the couch.

• 6:56Caleb Hammer?

I know, but if he is subsidizing you, that would give you more room to be able to go buy things. So what is the issue then if we have boyfriend helping?

• 7:05Speaker 03

Uh, well, I, I personally myself, I'm just really bad about impulsively buying things for myself. We have a joint account.

• 7:14Caleb Hammer?

That's, you said that. That is the fourth time you said that. I get that. I hear that. And it might be tight if you were on your own with your strong income.

• 7:23Speaker 03

  Right.

• 7:24Caleb Hammer?

You have an income where if you're being, if part of your bills of your cheaper mortgage than your rent is being subsidized by the boyfriend, and sometimes going out to you is being subsidized by the boyfriend, subsidized is not the necessarily the right word, but that's how we can look at it for just talking about full in, full out in terms of money flow. Okay, that gives you the ability to spend money on what you want. So that is simply not the issue specifically.

• 7:51Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah, I mean.

• 7:54Caleb Hammer?

  You would be able to.

• 7:56Speaker 03

  Yeah, um.

• 7:57Caleb Hammer?

  Not infinitely.

• 7:59Speaker 03

  Right. I don't know. I, I, I'm just.

• 8:03Speaker 03

I don't know. I just make really bad choices for myself and I

• 8:09Speaker 03

what goes into the joint account is just

• 8:11Caleb Hammer?

  Joining out with a boyfriend?

• 8:12Speaker 03

  Yes, I do.

• 8:14Caleb Hammer?

Wait, why are you guys joined before like marriage or even engagement at the very least?

• 8:19Speaker 03

Uh, we've been together for six years now.

• 8:21Caleb Hammer?

  But even still?

• 8:23Speaker 03

It just makes it easier. Pay bills and all that. So we each are putting the same amount in.

• 8:28Caleb Hammer?

If you guys break up, it's so much more messy. You do not have the

• 8:33Caleb Hammer?

the legal protections are not as extensive for you. There's no divorce.

• 8:39Speaker 03

Well, I want to get married eventually. So that's

• 8:43Caleb Hammer?

Great. That doesn't solve our issue of not being married now?

• 8:46Speaker 03

Yeah, but that's another thing. Like, I'm not sure if marriage is right because of the finances and the way my finances are and his are. Like, I don't know if it'll that would make it better to get married and and

• 8:58Caleb Hammer?

Why aren't you guys getting married? Then just get married.

• 9:00Speaker 03

Cause uh, I'm just worried about how my finances would affect him.

• 9:04Caleb Hammer?

  Are his finances good?

• 9:05Speaker 03

No. And also vice versa, how he would affect me. I just don't want us to jump into that without

• 9:13Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, maybe you guys aren't ready. I mean, you're clearly not. I mean, you're on the show. This is Oh my god, that's crazy. Just your bad debt, not even including the mortgage is insane. How much in bad debt do you have? Bad debt, not mortgage. Bad debt, not mortgage.

• 9:29Speaker 03

  Probably around sixty thousand.

• 9:31Caleb Hammer?

  Seventy?

• 9:32Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 9:33Caleb Hammer?

Yeah. I think ten thousand is a relatively substantial amount, especially if we're talking like that thirty percent debt.

• 9:39Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:40Caleb Hammer?

  To be off by.

• 9:42Speaker 03

Yeah, I did not realize it had gotten up to seventy. I have been kind of keeping a track on it, but not as

• 9:48Caleb Hammer?

Obviously not if you're off by that. What are you off by? What is that? Fifteen percent?

• 9:54Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 9:54Caleb Hammer?

  I mean, that's pretty crazy.

• 9:56Speaker 03

Yeah, a little bit. Um, but um.

• 10:00Caleb Hammer?

What's your account on a monthly basis, income wise? How long have you been? So you've done this for two years? Okay, good. What is your account?

• 10:07Speaker 03

Thirty six hundred a month. About thirty six hundred, yeah. Eighteen hundred every two weeks.

• 10:12Caleb Hammer?

I had forty nine hundred. Was it a three week month? No, it wouldn't have been.

• 10:16Speaker 03

Hmm, no, it should be. Oh, I do Walmart delivery on the side.

• 10:22Caleb Hammer?

Okay, yeah, that could be. How many hours a week do you put in that?

• 10:26Speaker 03

  For the Walmart?

• 10:27Caleb Hammer?

Oh, we actually just weren't even informed that you were combined as we did the numbers beforehand. So that actually might include your boyfriend's pay.

• 10:36Speaker 03

On, I will have two accounts. I have a SoFi that we're both in on and then I have my own personal.

• 10:41Caleb Hammer?

Payroll, what hits on a monthly basis?

• 10:43Speaker 03

  Thirty six hundred.

• 10:44Caleb Hammer?

Thirty six, okay. How much was spent last month?

• 10:48Speaker 03

  Ooh.

• 10:50Caleb Hammer?

  Always a hard one.

• 10:51Speaker 03

Probably about two, twenty five hundred?

• 10:54Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, sixty six hundred.

• 10:57Speaker 03

  Sixty six?

• 10:58Caleb Hammer?

How can we be this far off?

• 11:00Speaker 03

Uh, I just don't pay attention. I don't. I mean, I know how much is in my bank account.

• 11:05Caleb Hammer?

Fine, you don't pay attention. You like to blow your money. Said that like three times. Got that part. That's wonderful. How about this? Why don't you pay attention? Self-assessed. I want to get into that brain a little.

• 11:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 11:18Caleb Hammer?

Why do you not pay attention?

• 11:20Speaker 03

Uh, because growing up, money was kind of a hard issue. Like, we didn't have a lot. So now that I kind of have my own money, I just kind of pay what I can and spend what I have in my bank account and without thinking twice about it.

• 11:38Caleb Hammer?

Okay. What are your goals? What are we trying to do? What are we trying to do then? I mean, you've achieved the mortgage thing, but you just don't care to get your finances under your control at all. So what is your goal? What are we, what are we trying to do? What are we sitting here talking about? What is, yeah, what's anything?

• 11:57Speaker 03

Uh, I mean, I'm trying to get the debt down, so that way, well, not actively. I mean, I think about it.

• 12:04Caleb Hammer?

Try, you, you think about it.

• 12:06Speaker 03

Think about it. I have good intentions.

• 12:08Caleb Hammer?

  You don't.

• 12:09Speaker 03

I try to have good intentions with it.

• 12:11Caleb Hammer?

  You don't.

• 12:12Speaker 03

  But.

• 12:13Caleb Hammer?

There is nothing that would suggest that.

• 12:16Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:17Caleb Hammer?

What, why? What's the actual? Is there anything? Is there any goal?

• 12:21Speaker 03

I mean, I want to get to a place with no debt. Um, but I also.

• 12:25Caleb Hammer?

So she's just, she's a copy and paste, okay?

• 12:28Speaker 03

Yeah, well, I also going on a trip to Italy next month. Um.

• 12:33Caleb Hammer?

  How? How do you spend?

• 12:36Caleb Hammer?

Beyond more than you brought in, like double. How?

• 12:40Speaker 03

  Uh, I'm, I just-

• 12:43Caleb Hammer?

  That's not a cheap trip.

• 12:44Speaker 03

No, not at all. I've, I've paid about fifteen hundred dollars towards it already.

• 12:48Caleb Hammer?

You've already paid fifty, that's probably why your spending was substantially higher. How much more do you have to put towards it?

• 12:53Speaker 03

Well, not anything else. I've already paid for-

• 12:54Caleb Hammer?

You're gonna eat food while you're there, fuck you. You're gonna get transportation while you're there, fuck you.

• 12:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 12:59Caleb Hammer?

  Lies?

• 13:00Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 13:00Caleb Hammer?

  What do you mean?

• 13:01Speaker 03

I've, I've, I've put aside about five hundred dollars for it. So, to spend money and do what I need to do.

• 13:08Caleb Hammer?

But I thought you wanted to pay off debt. Five hundred dollars could go towards, uh, debt.

• 13:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:13Caleb Hammer?

  High interest debt.

• 13:15Speaker 03

  I know, but-

• 13:15Caleb Hammer?

Is it only providing a return on investment? I don't think so.

• 13:18Speaker 03

No, but it returns on memories and good times.

• 13:21Caleb Hammer?

But hopefully if you just stick with the average human, you'll have a plenty of more times for memories. In fact, you could have better and more memories if you do not have fifty, sixty, seventy thousand hours of bad debt ballooning. Ballooning thirty percent interest.

• 13:37Speaker 03

  Mm-hmm.

• 13:37Caleb Hammer?

You know how many more Italian trips we can go on?

• 13:41Speaker 03

Well, I know, but it, it was a family thing and, and-

• 13:44Caleb Hammer?

What, your, your whole family's going?

• 13:47Speaker 03

My dad, my dad, my stepmom, my stepsister, they're all going. So it was, it was a family thing. I just, I gotta go.

• 13:52Caleb Hammer?

Extra pressure to go into it?

• 13:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:54Caleb Hammer?

Did you bring up a conversation how you're, uh, fucking poor?

• 13:57Speaker 03

Uh, yeah. I mean, my dad knows, but, uh, I just came up with the money. I figured I'd come up with the money. I wanted to go. So, I couldn't, could not go to Italy.

• 14:10Caleb Hammer?

And you objectively could have just not gone, but I understand I wanted to go with the family.

• 14:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:14Caleb Hammer?

I, I do get that, but at that point, if there's like the pressure around it, I would try to recognize if there's pressure of people around me because we're gonna go do this thing and oh shit, that person might not be able to afford it. They're putting themselves in a bad position. Maybe I'm helping, not enabling, but maybe I'm helping because I want them to be able to experience it together. Like that's okay. There was none of that?

• 14:36Speaker 03

No, it was, I had to pay everything myself. Like, it was my own way. I gotta get new clothes for it and everything.

• 14:44Caleb Hammer?

  Clothes?

• 14:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:47Speaker 03

For, you know, Instagram pictures and...

• 14:48Caleb Hammer?

You didn't have clothes. Fuck your Instagram. I don't care. You did not have clothes. Can't wear that to Italy.

• 14:54Speaker 03

I mean, I could probably wear this, but I needed, I needed like...

• 14:56Caleb Hammer?

There you go. You had clothes. How long were you in Italy?

• 14:58Speaker 03

  Uh, about a week. From...

• 15:00Caleb Hammer?

How much clothes did you need for a fucking week? Brand new.

• 15:03Speaker 03

And shoes to walk around in.

• 15:05Caleb Hammer?

You didn't have shoes to walk in?

• 15:06Speaker 03

Not, not comfortable shoes to walk in.

• 15:08Caleb Hammer?

  Why the fuck wouldn't you?

• 15:10Speaker 03

  I don't know. I have a...

• 15:11Caleb Hammer?

What are you, a dumbass? You don't have shoes to walk in?

• 15:14Speaker 03

Not like com- not cute, comfortable ones with, with for clothes.

• 15:17Caleb Hammer?

  Do you not walk?

• 15:18Speaker 03

Hmm, not that much in my office dog, but...

• 15:21Caleb Hammer?

  You don't walk in life?

• 15:22Speaker 03

Well, yeah, but I mean, I have tennis shoes for that.

• 15:24Caleb Hammer?

How do you not have anything? Tennis shoes. There you go.

• 15:27Speaker 03

But not with the outfits. I gotta get something that matches outfits to look, to look right.

• 15:33Caleb Hammer?

Listen, you're American. They already hate you.

• 15:34Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 15:36Caleb Hammer?

It doesn't matter. Who are you trying to impress?

• 15:38Speaker 03

  Hmm, I mean, I just...

• 15:39Caleb Hammer?

Italy's only old people anyway now.

• 15:42Speaker 03

Well, you go on Pinterest. You see all the cute pictures and the outfits. Inspiration. Wanna be that?

• 15:47Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, why don't you post a picture on Pinterest so you're seventy thousand dollars in bad high interest debt?

• 15:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, well...

• 15:53Caleb Hammer?

Does your boyfriend even know that? What does he know about your financial situation? You wanna get married. What does he know?

• 15:59Speaker 03

Uh, well, he knows a little. I mean, he...

• 16:03Caleb Hammer?

A little? You guys don't communicate that much about money and yet you have a joint account and he helps with all the expenses? And you wanna get married and he only knows a little? What does he know?

• 16:12Speaker 03

I mean, he knows about all the high credit cards.

• 16:16Caleb Hammer?

Cause you thought you had ten thousand less than you have.

• 16:19Speaker 03

I mean, he knows about the credit cards. I don't know if he knows about the other...

• 16:22Caleb Hammer?

Just the credit cards? Doesn't know all that extra shit?

• 16:24Speaker 03

  Hmm, probably not.

• 16:26Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 16:28Speaker 03

I don't know. I mean, it's not something I'm trying to hide. It's not something I'm trying to hide. It's just something we don't really talk about.

• 16:34Caleb Hammer?

Shouldn't we if we want to get married? If we have a joint account, especially before marriage?

• 16:38Speaker 03

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. We, we talk, but not super in-depth about our finances, about bills, about all that. I just kind of, I take care of it.

• 16:48Caleb Hammer?

Do we have true intentions to get married?

• 16:50Speaker 03

  Yeah, for sure.

• 16:51Caleb Hammer?

Really? What are we doing to get there?

• 16:54Speaker 03

Well, nothing right now. I mean, I'm trying.

• 16:56Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, no shit.

• 16:57Speaker 03

  I have the intention.

• 16:58Caleb Hammer?

No, you're not trying. No, you don't. You keep using these words, but there is nothing to suggest that.

• 17:03Speaker 03

I mean, I, I've been, yeah, I don't know. I've been trying. I've been trying to pay off as much and then it's just like snowballs.

• 17:11Caleb Hammer?

You're going to Italy. You're not paying off that. What the are you talking about? That is not true. I am not gonna let you just bull. I'm not gonna let you just bull. You're not just gonna look good for the camera. That's not gonna happen. No, you are not trying. You're going to fucking Italy. You're prioritizing that. And I'm not against like a family trip or the emotions that go behind it, but you are not trying. Don't use that word.

• 17:37Speaker 03

Okay. Well, I, like I said, I have the intention. I have good intention to do it. I just, I haven't.

• 17:43Caleb Hammer?

What, what, what's intention without action?

• 17:48Speaker 03

  A good thought? I don't know.

• 17:50Caleb Hammer?

There you go. A good thought to help you sleep.

• 17:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, I guess.

• 17:54Caleb Hammer?

And that's as far as you're getting in life.

• 17:57Speaker 03

As, yeah. I don't know. I've, I've been, I mean, I've tried to do the snowball method with the debt and like works.

• 18:07Caleb Hammer?

  Have you?

• 18:07Speaker 03

  Smallest to biggest.

• 18:08Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 18:09Speaker 03

And it's just, I just, I just have, I'm really impulsive when buying things, so.

• 18:15Caleb Hammer?

You can have access to spending accounts.

• 18:18Caleb Hammer?

If you're a child with money, don't let yourself have money.

• 18:24Speaker 03

  Um, I just, I don't know.

• 18:26Caleb Hammer?

Where do you think you are in the world of finances? On a scale of zero to 10, zero being the worst, 10 being the best. Where do you think you are?

• 18:33Speaker 03

  Probably a one.

• 18:34Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 18:35Speaker 03

Just because I just bought a house. I don't know if that helps me anything.

• 18:38Caleb Hammer?

The real estate score would help you, but it definitely depends on how you got the house, honestly. And we'll take a look at that at some point. • 19:06Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 19:07Caleb Hammer?

Discover how bad all of your life is.

• 19:12Speaker 03

  Yeah, there's two discovers too.

• 19:15Caleb Hammer?

Why do you have so many individual debts?

• 19:19Speaker 03

Because I've run out of money on one and I get another one to subsidize that.

• 19:25Caleb Hammer?

It's a $249 minimum monthly payment. That is an insane minimum monthly payment for your situation.

• 19:30Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, it's pretty bad. That's.

• 19:33Caleb Hammer?

  No, it's really bad.

• 19:35Speaker 03

Well, I mean, I've, I've never missed a payment. I've made every payment on it.

• 19:39Caleb Hammer?

You know, honestly, most people that say that, uh, is that's not correct. But we'll see as we go through.

• 19:46Speaker 03

  I don't think.

• 19:46Caleb Hammer?

$10,852.54. As a G O, how long does it take to pay off?

• 19:52Speaker 03

God, probably 15 years, something crazy like that.

• 19:58Speaker 03

Is it worse? Is it worse?

• 20:01Caleb Hammer?

  You'll be 70 years old.

• 20:03Speaker 03

  You're lying.

• 20:04Caleb Hammer?

By the time this is paid off.

• 20:05Speaker 03

  Oh, my God.

• 20:08Speaker 03

Um, yeah, I didn't realize that.

• 20:10Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, you'll be 70 years old.

• 20:15Speaker 03

God, well, yeah, and I got that one because my other one got maxed out. So.

• 20:23Caleb Hammer?

  I know you said that.

• 20:26Speaker 03

Yeah, it, I didn't realize it was going to take that long to pay off just minimum, which, yeah. Like I said, I was trying to pay off the smaller debts first. That way I could put more into this one to try to pay it off because I know.

• 20:38Caleb Hammer?

You're opening new debts when you max out one, but that's completely, completely against what you just said.

• 20:46Speaker 03

Yeah, I try, I, like I said, I, I know you hate this, but I have good intentions when I think about it.

• 20:53Speaker 00

This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome. You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome? That's new. It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50-page restoration block, or finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required. Compatibility and availability varies 18 plus.

• 21:17Speaker 03

I know I make stupid decisions with it.

• 21:19Caleb Hammer?

They don't even know how to verbalize that. Like, good intentions, yet you just do nothing. So is there, is there even the, like, do you even have good intentions at that point? It's like, I don't know. Good intentions is any kind of action. There's nothing. It's nothing. It's nothing. Like, it doesn't make any sense.

• 21:36Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 21:37Caleb Hammer?

It's just like, it's just like someone who's virtues online. Like, that's all it is. Like, you, but you do actually nothing to provide value. It's like, you're that kind of person, but in debt form.

• 21:49Speaker 03

Yeah. I mean, at first, you know, I really was trying, and then I just kind of snowballed myself.

• 21:57Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, when were you trying?

• 21:59Speaker 03

I mean, last year, I was trying. I mean, I got a second job to kind of help with everything, but then I kind of just started spending that money on other things, on, on food and stuff. But I'd gotten a second job to help with the debt.

• 22:15Caleb Hammer?

Is that the job that you still have?

• 22:17Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:18Caleb Hammer?

So, I didn't expect to use Mumu this much. I just downloaded it to test it out, and it's basically been glued to my home screen. And because I love this platform so much, I want you to learn how to use it the same way I have, which is why I created a free Mumu tutorial guide with Mumu's head of product and user experience. Because Mumu is not just another trading app, it's my financial hub for all things stock market, and it's also where I go to stalk analyst ratings, like I'm cramming for a finance trial. And before Mumu, I was jumping between three apps just to get half this info. With Mumu, I've got insanely high-quality data, fundamental analysis tools, a brand-new no-code algorithmic trading tool, and even this feature called Trend Projection, which basically uses-

• 23:02Caleb Hammer?

Technical patterns to help me spot short term stock movement. And yeah, zero commissions on US stocks, ETFs and even options. Because paying for trades is so 2008. And if for some reason you're worried because you've never heard of Mumu before, then you should probably wake up because Mumu is now an official partner of the New York Mets. They're playing in the big leagues and so should you. But if that's not enough, I convinced them to perfectly craft a promotion only for my audience. So if you're new, deposit $2,000 and Mumu will give you $150 in cash rewards towards your trades. Plus they'll give you 8.1% APY on that uninvested cash for the first three months, one of the highest in the industry. Already with another broker?

• 23:44Caleb Hammer?

Transfer your portfolio and get a 3% cash reward match up to $600. So if you're ready to upgrade your trading game, you need to join over 25 million users worldwide and sign up through the link in the comments. Thanks again to Mumu for sponsoring this video. Let's get back to the episode. What got you out of the, how long were you actually working on this? Successfully, productively?

• 24:07Speaker 03

Uh, I mean, the couple of months last year, I was like the summer or like April to July. I was really putting in work on my second job, trying to get that extra money.

• 24:16Caleb Hammer?

So one month? Two months, three months?

• 24:19Speaker 03

  About three months.

• 24:21Caleb Hammer?

  Why did we fall off?

• 24:23Speaker 03

Cause more things came up than I wanted to do and I just used the money for that.

• 24:27Caleb Hammer?

What came up that you wanted to do? That was more important than paying off debt?

• 24:32Speaker 03

I don't know, go on trips. I went to the beach last August. Um, I spent a bunch of money on Christmas gifts, went to Italy this year.

• 24:41Caleb Hammer?

Six months later. Yes, Italy this year. When did you have to start making the payments for Italy?

• 24:46Speaker 03

Uh, a couple of months ago and I paid it all off in, in December to my dad. He paid for it and I paid him back. So.

• 24:54Caleb Hammer?

So you had like dad debt? And then all your money went towards that instead of paying off your other debt?

• 24:59Speaker 03

Yeah, definitely have to pay that first.

• 25:01Caleb Hammer?

$228.19 in interest in one month alone on this card. One month alone.

• 25:10Speaker 03

Yeah, and I've had that one for years now, so there's no telling. No telling how bad it's gotten. I know the interest rates.

• 25:16Caleb Hammer?

Seven hundred and thirty-four dollars in interest this year so far. On just your last fucking statement. So it's not even up to date to this. And we're finishing the third month of the year.

• 25:26Speaker 03

Uh huh, yeah. It's, uh, I mean.

• 25:31Caleb Hammer?

You're able to somehow prioritize. Going to Italy with your money and paying off your debt with that, but you're incapable of prioritizing this when you lose in just a couple of months. Almost eight hundred dollars. Almost eight hundred dollars. You had to pay your dad back fifteen hundred?

• 25:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 25:49Caleb Hammer?

And you prioritize that like that because, woo, we're going to Italy. But when you get almost eight hundred dollars taken from you, drained from your future, you're just like, ah.

• 26:01Speaker 03

I mean, I knew about the interest. I didn't really think about it too much, though. I didn't think about it adding up like that.

• 26:07Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 26:08Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 26:09Caleb Hammer?

That's gonna be another question where I'm asking why? And I would love an answer versus like, oh, I thought about it.

• 26:17Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 26:18Caleb Hammer?

Need you to dig deep. I want to learn about you as we go through this process so we can actually create a plan that applies to you.

• 26:26Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:26Caleb Hammer?

Why don't you think about interest?

• 26:28Speaker 03

Uh, just, I think I just have so many cards at this point that I just don't even.

• 26:35Caleb Hammer?

It would take five minutes to put them all into a fucking spreadsheet.

• 26:38Speaker 03

Yeah, yeah, trust me. My dad's yelled at me about that for sure. Him and his spreadsheets. He loves it.

• 26:44Caleb Hammer?

And why haven't you done anything then if your dad is there willing to help?

• 26:48Speaker 03

Oh, I don't know. Uh, good question. I just.

• 26:51Caleb Hammer?

You're not able to self-assess anything.

• 26:53Speaker 03

  I'm on my own, so I like, I don't.

• 26:55Caleb Hammer?

On your own. You have your dad that's willing to help you with this. You have your boyfriend who pays for half your life.

• 26:59Speaker 03

I know, but I like to think that I'm on my own.

• 27:01Caleb Hammer?

Your dad paid for your Italian trip and you're able to pay him back. You're on your own. Fuck you, you're on your own. You don't know what on your own is. You've never been on your own.

• 27:09Speaker 03

  Yeah, well, I mean.

• 27:10Caleb Hammer?

You're a fifteen-year-old that actually has a two next to the five for some reason.

• 27:15Speaker 03

Yeah, uh, I mean, I guess I definitely don't think I've grown up past like sixteen, but I've been trying to.

• 27:21Caleb Hammer?

  You okay with that?

• 27:22Speaker 03

No, I'm not okay with that. But I've been trying to make the diff, the, yeah.

• 27:29Caleb Hammer?

All right, come on, dude. Come on. Literally, again, I mean.

• 27:36Caleb Hammer?

Have to call it out every time because this is so fucking easy. Just download the app. We made this for you. We made it for everyone out there. We made it for me. It applies to everyone. It's fucking automatic.

• 27:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 27:49Caleb Hammer?

Sign up and then you just can type in a couple of things. Everything's automatic. No more, I don't know anymore. No more. I didn't want to think about it anymore. You can just look at, just look at it.

• 28:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 28:02Caleb Hammer?

  Fucking so easy.

• 28:05Speaker 03

Yeah, but I tried Dave Ramsey's. I think he has one. I tried that for a little bit and it just.

• 28:10Caleb Hammer?

  That one's okay.

• 28:11Speaker 03

  Didn't, I don't know.

• 28:12Caleb Hammer?

A little more strict on his value sets, but again, I like to cater to other people and what they prefer for their lives. And that works.

• 28:21Speaker 03

Yeah. Um, yeah. I, I did download Simpler Budget. I haven't used it yet. I did download it. It's on my phone.

• 28:29Caleb Hammer?

I bet that's the most amount of progress you've ever actually put into anything, effort you've put into anything. Pushed download, didn't actually use. Remember, if you sign up for the annual version, I'll send you a physical version of the cookbook and our founder's edition, Simpler Budget Notebook, and I'm going to sign both of them and mail them directly to you.

• 28:50Speaker 03

Um, well, I have spent a lot of the money on like events, like music festival. I went to Hangout Fest.

• 28:57Caleb Hammer?

  Hangout Fest?

• 28:58Speaker 03

Yeah, Gulf Shores, Alabama, um, last year and the last two years. And I would put that on the credit card. And then plus the outfits and the food.

• 29:09Caleb Hammer?

We don't have clothes or shoes ever. If we have a new event to go to, we must refresh everything.

• 29:15Speaker 03

Yeah, I'm really bad about buying new, new clothes for everything for sure. I have a, I love buying clothes. That's definitely my weakness is clothes.

• 29:23Caleb Hammer?

Really? What is your like clothes selection? If you sold half your stuff today, what could you get?

• 29:29Speaker 03

Oh, not much because I buy a lot of it from American Eagle.

• 29:33Caleb Hammer?

Fucking twelve year old twink? I'm so confused.

• 29:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I haven't grown out of American Eagle for sure. Um, definitely need to up my game on that, but I want to go to American Eagle all the time. I spend a lot of money there. Um, I have a credit card from American Eagle.

• 29:47Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, I bet you do.

• 29:48Speaker 03

So, yeah, I spend a lot of money on clothes, shoes, those kinds of things.

• 29:55Caleb Hammer?

And you probably could with your income. You just have to fucking budget it.

• 30:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 30:02Caleb Hammer?

Dude, it's just, it's not a, here's my limit on my credit card. I have the room to get three pairs of boots. That's not how this works. You can't afford thing, you just can't have, you can't have access to credit. You cannot have access to using other people's money. You can't. You don't know how to manage that worth anything.

• 30:24Speaker 03

  I mean, I, I try and I, um.

• 30:27Caleb Hammer?

I'm gonna fucking pull out a tape.

• 30:32Caleb Hammer?

Say I try one more time.

• 30:34Speaker 03

I just get FOMO with things. I want, I don't want to miss out.

• 30:37Caleb Hammer?

  FOMO, FOMO of boots?

• 30:39Speaker 03

No, of like events, like the, the hangout fest and like different events that I go to if, you know, I get FOMO. I want to be able to get.

• 30:46Caleb Hammer?

You can't go to events, you can probably budget them in. You're like, I have, my credit card balance is up here, but my limit's here. So I can get five boots. That's your mentality.

• 30:59Caleb Hammer?

Which means you cannot have access to credit cards.

• 31:03Speaker 03

  I mean, I, I, uh, I don't know.

• 31:07Caleb Hammer?

  What?

• 31:10Caleb Hammer?

  Oh my.

• 31:12Speaker 03

I also tried to get Lollapalooza tickets recently.

• 31:16Caleb Hammer?

  Tried to?

• 31:17Speaker 03

Yeah, I was on the standby list for it. I didn't get through. So that's why I didn't end up getting the tickets. It's because I didn't get through the standby.

• 31:24Caleb Hammer?

  Good.

• 31:25Speaker 03

But I'm still looking at them in case.

• 31:28Caleb Hammer?

  You don't.

• 31:29Speaker 03

  I mean, it's fun though.

• 31:30Caleb Hammer?

It is. So it's being able to live a relatively successful life. Again, I can get you go to every music festival in the world. Once you get to a good place financially, you're preventing yourself from going to all the music festivals you want to. You go to all of them. You could be doing the one in Brazil that just happened. You could do that because you have a pretty strong single income. And then imagine your dual household, once you guys do get married. There is actual good things that you could do.

• 31:59Caleb Hammer?

That you're preventing because you want to do all of them right now and you're making it so you'll never be able to do them pretty soon.

• 32:06Speaker 03

Yeah, um, I mean, the tickets weren't that, I mean, they're only four hundred and fifteen dollars for a four day pass.

• 32:11Caleb Hammer?

  How much?

• 32:11Speaker 03

  Four hundred and fifteen?

• 32:12Caleb Hammer?

But you, you have no respect for the dollar. You have no respect for the dollar.

• 32:16Speaker 03

  For four days though.

• 32:17Caleb Hammer?

Fuck you. I don't care what time it is. Maybe for the value, sure, you get a lot of value for the dollar, but those dollars could be actually improving your life through.

• 32:30Speaker 03

I was gonna pay him over time though. I was gonna do the.

• 32:34Caleb Hammer?

Financing? Alright, when we figure out what your minimum monthly payments are by the end of this, I have a feeling because you don't understand how they stack that it's about to be immense.

• 32:45Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:49Speaker 03

Um, I've recently gotten into hobbies. I like to try out different hobbies. Um, one of the ones recently I've done is coloring with alcohol markers.

• 32:59Caleb Hammer?

  Alcohol markers?

• 33:01Speaker 03

Yeah, and I got the good brand too.

• 33:03Caleb Hammer?

Oh, sure you did. I don't even know. Coloring, I thought, okay, let's get some crayons. I don't, okay.

• 33:08Speaker 03

No, there's like a whole need.

• 33:09Caleb Hammer?

This is a good brand cost of.

• 33:12Speaker 03

It's probably about forty dollars for.

• 33:14Caleb Hammer?

Do I have a Sharpie with you? What are you gonna start?

• 33:15Speaker 03

  No, that's not mine.

• 33:18Speaker 03

No, but I mean, it, it, it's like forty dollars for a set of markers and then each of the coloring books is probably seven dollars a piece.

• 33:24Caleb Hammer?

Okay, well, we can. I don't know. How much is that draining you? But you said you get into a lot of hobbies.

• 33:33Speaker 03

Yeah, I've also done like crocheting.

• 33:35Caleb Hammer?

Oh, okay, that can get expensive.

• 33:37Speaker 03

Yeah, I, I, and I only did it for like a week or two and then I kind of gave it up. Um, I also love reading books. I buy books a lot.

• 33:46Caleb Hammer?

Hey, go to the fucking library. You live in a major city.

• 33:49Speaker 03

  Yeah, but I like.

• 33:50Caleb Hammer?

Go to the library. You live in a major city.

• 33:51Speaker 03

  I like owning paperbacks.

• 33:52Caleb Hammer?

Go into the library. You live in a major city.

• 33:55Speaker 03

  It's not as fun.

• 33:56Caleb Hammer?

  I don't care.

• 33:57Speaker 03

  It's not the same experience.

• 33:58Caleb Hammer?

  Bad debt. You're fucking dumb.

• 34:00Speaker 03

It's not the same experience walking in a books, books million and smelling the new books. It's great.

• 34:06Caleb Hammer?

Hope they have something. Oh, I think they got two crayons.

• 34:13Caleb Hammer?

  Saving money with mommy.

• 34:17Speaker 03

It's not the same feeling as with alcohol markers.

• 34:20Caleb Hammer?

Do not fucking ever just stay home for a second.

• 35:26Speaker 03

I told you I have some.

• 35:28Caleb Hammer?

No, you have $70,000 of bad debt and you make $60,000 a year. You have more in bad debt than you make and you go somewhere every five minutes.

• 35:38Speaker 03

  I'd.

• 35:38Caleb Hammer?

  Color!

• 35:40Speaker 03

• 35:54Speaker 03

  I mean, that's, that's what I.

• 35:56Caleb Hammer?

How can, your work allows you to take this much time off?

• 36:00Speaker 03

I mean, I get a pretty good amount of PTO. I have run out. Last year I ran out super early.

• 36:05Caleb Hammer?

  Wow, really?

• 36:07Speaker 03

Well, probably around April-ish. And I'm.

• 36:11Caleb Hammer?

Then what? Cause you certainly went places. I know you can't stop.

• 36:15Speaker 03

Well, I, I mean, yeah, I move, I mean, I move days around here and there. Uh, I definitely like ran out completely by August.

• 36:23Caleb Hammer?

And then what did you do?

• 36:25Speaker 03

I work from home sometimes if they allow it or I just.

• 36:30Caleb Hammer?

What does that mean? As in you still went somewhere?

• 36:33Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 36:35Speaker 03

Yeah, but you work from home.

• 36:36Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, I'm sure you did.

• 36:38Speaker 03

  Yes, of course, of course.

• 36:42Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 36:45Caleb Hammer?

Great. I think you're the reason why that industry standard has ended.

• 36:51Speaker 03

  Industry standard?

• 36:53Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, there's a lot of work from home for a while.

• 36:55Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 36:57Caleb Hammer?

But it was people like you who ruined it.

• 36:58Speaker 03

  A little bit.

• 36:59Caleb Hammer?

  Because of people like you.

• 37:01Speaker 03

No, I don't think so. I still work. I still do my job. I still, you know, get things done. I just take the work with me. Work from wherever.

• 37:11Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, maybe. I don't know. For some reason, I don't believe you. I feel like you you travel as much as you can using your paid time off and then you just all of a sudden start working from home.

• 37:20Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 37:21Caleb Hammer?

Does that not scream that is obviously for vacation if you only start doing that after you've used your PTO?

• 37:27Speaker 03

  Well, I mean, most of

• 37:28Caleb Hammer?

  Exactly.

• 37:29Speaker 03

Most of the PTO is also just because I have a hard time getting out of bed and I don't like going to work sometimes.

• 37:36Caleb Hammer?

  No one does.

• 37:37Speaker 03

  So.

• 37:38Caleb Hammer?

You have a great job. You want to get that up already?

• 37:41Speaker 03

  No, of course not.

• 37:42Caleb Hammer?

Oh, my gosh, you get cramps and you immediately become a child.

• 37:44Speaker 03

  No, I just, I.

• 37:46Caleb Hammer?

I mean, we all struggle to wake up sometimes. See, I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I had a job to go to.

• 37:55Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, I take it seriously. I just, some days you have days. You just can't, don't want to go in or not feeling well in the mornings and just not. Yeah, it's not a good day. Need a mental health day or something.

• 38:07Caleb Hammer?

I don't think you're a reliable person. I mean, yes, I can. I'm okay with those, but try to schedule them out a little better. You're probably fucking people over on your team by just being like, oh, you know, I want to sleep in today. Bye bye.

• 38:18Speaker 03

No, I make sure I do it when I don't have anything planned. I check my calendar before I do it. I might, I'll do it strategically.

• 38:24Caleb Hammer?

Uh huh. Yeah, for some reason, I fully believe you 100%.

• 38:27Speaker 03

  Definitely strategic.

• 38:28Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, regular Discover card.

• 38:32Caleb Hammer?

You owe 7,899 cents with a minimum monthly payment of $177.

• 38:42Speaker 03

  Yep.

• 38:42Caleb Hammer?

  What's going on here?

• 38:44Speaker 03

That was my very first card, my very first credit card I ever got. Um, it was the student card. Um, I got that one when I was like 19, I think. Um, so it's, there's, I mean, there's stuff from it, from college, from going out in college or groceries, paying for things for my apartment, uh, things like that. Um, and it, yeah, it got up really quick on that one. And then that's when I opened that second Discover card.

• 39:14Caleb Hammer?

At that point, or what are you still spending? Because listen, there weren't purchases this month, but you're only a couple hundred dollars away from the max. So it's not like you haven't been purchasing for a long time.

• 39:24Speaker 03

Well, not on that one specifically.

• 39:26Caleb Hammer?

No, you're so close to the max.

• 39:27Speaker 03

Well, yeah, but that's because the interest, like every time I try to make a payment.

• 39:31Caleb Hammer?

No, if you make a minimum monthly payment, it'll still go down enough to not be this close to the max. Unless, unless you've only stopped purchasing a few months ago.

• 39:40Speaker 03

No, I haven't been, I mean, I don't think I've been purchasing on that for a while now. Um, they just kept raising my limit on it, so I just kept doing it.

• 39:50Caleb Hammer?

You can't have access to credit because again, you see a limit as how many pairs of boots you can get, not.

• 39:55Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 39:56Caleb Hammer?

  What I should avoid spending.

• 39:58Speaker 03

Yeah, but I mean, I don't know. The money was there, so I just used it.

• 40:01Caleb Hammer?

It was someone else's money, it wasn't yours. It wasn't there.

• 40:05Speaker 03

But I was, you know, I had the, I was going to pay it off, uh, and then I just.

• 40:10Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 40:11Speaker 03

  Kept snowballing.

• 40:12Caleb Hammer?

Why didn't you pay it off? I was gonna pay it off.

• 40:14Speaker 03

I was in college, I didn't, I didn't have a great job at the time.

• 40:17Caleb Hammer?

  Did you leave college?

• 40:18Speaker 03

  Uh, two, three years ago.

• 40:20Caleb Hammer?

  Few.

• 40:21Speaker 03

But it's just been sitting there. It's been sitting there since then.

• 40:24Caleb Hammer?

You didn't just pay off a couple hundred dollars in that amount of time.

• 40:28Speaker 03

  No, I mean, I.

• 40:31Caleb Hammer?

Especially since you did three months of progress last year.

• 40:34Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, I think on those I was mostly just focusing on the minimum to work on the other stuff I had. So that's, that's why I just, I don't know, I just don't touch it. I just leave it there. But the interest is just growing on it.

• 40:51Caleb Hammer?

Your addiction to shopping. So you have an addiction to honestly traveling to different places, music festivals, and then an addiction to shopping. How often do we go shopping? Because we know you travel probably at least a couple of times a quarter. Okay.

• 41:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 41:04Caleb Hammer?

Where, how often do you go shopping for this clothing?

• 41:08Speaker 03

Uh, I go shopping pretty frequently, especially when I'm not feeling the best. That's probably when I do the most shopping.

• 41:14Caleb Hammer?

Feeling the best. You have a little stomach flu, so you go shopping? Like, what are you saying?

• 41:17Speaker 03

No, like when I'm just like in a bad mood. I'm like, I deserve this.

• 41:20Caleb Hammer?

  Mood? Just a bad?

• 41:22Speaker 00

This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome. You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome, that's new. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required compatibility and availability varies 18 plus.

• 41:47Caleb Hammer?

  Mood?

• 41:48Speaker 03

Well, yeah, and I get to like, I deserve it.

• 41:50Caleb Hammer?

No, we're not entitled to 50,000 pairs of boots.

• 41:54Speaker 03

That's just how I felt in my moment. I mean, that's how I feel. That's when I'm not.

• 41:57Caleb Hammer?

You need better coping mechanisms. You need to work with like a therapist or something. If your immediate cope to is ching, ching, ching, ching, ching, ching, ching, ching,

• 42:09Caleb Hammer?

you're never gonna pay off that. That three months of progress you made will be the longest progress you've ever done. Downloading the budgeting app and never using it is gonna be the most amount of progress you've ever done. If every time you feel slightly gloomy, you just blow all your money.

• 42:27Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, that's definitely the biggest thing. It's like, it's impulsive. I just feel that.

• 42:32Caleb Hammer?

My big struggle here is I'm just like, okay. Well, what can I say? What can I say? Cause you have a house. Obviously you have the goal of marriage, but what can I use as an emotional tool to convince you that your actions and your spending around all this is dumb, it's hurting you and that you obviously need to change it. Like, what can I say that's gonna get you to actually, actually make those changes? I don't, I don't know.

• 43:00Speaker 03

Well, I mean, I got the second job to like, and I'm still doing that now.

• 43:03Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but you just, you increase your spending to me. Look, you spent double what you brought in.

• 43:07Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 43:08Caleb Hammer?

So it's like, the second job doesn't matter. You make more money, you spend double what extra you make. So that, that, that is like, woo, good job. Yay. But there's so much more discipline that has to go around this entire situation than just going to get in an extra job.

• 43:23Speaker 03

I mean, I thought it would help me like, and help especially with the

• 43:28Caleb Hammer?

It would if you were disciplined.

• 43:30Speaker 03

  Yeah, well, I just.

• 43:32Caleb Hammer?

And no, that's not true with your minimum monthly because if you have spending ability on these cards, you usually spend on them. That's why they're all basically maxed out, meaning that no, it won't help you with your minimum because you're just spending more on them, making your minimums go even higher.

• 43:49Speaker 03

It's the thought that counts. It's the thought that counts.

• 43:53Caleb Hammer?

What are you shutting down? Are you giving up? Like what? You can't handle a little bit of pushback?

• 43:57Speaker 03

That's what I'm saying. Like I, uh, I don't know. With the second job too, I'm, I'm also gonna owe more taxes. So like, I try not to do it as frequently.

• 44:06Caleb Hammer?

  Paycheck doesn't even matter.

• 44:08Speaker 03

Well, not, not the second job. It's 29.

• 44:10Caleb Hammer?

Okay, that's fine. So like 20% aside is probably fine for you.

• 44:15Speaker 03

Yeah, I just haven't been setting that money aside.

• 44:17Caleb Hammer?

  Why?

• 44:18Speaker 03

Cause it comes in my account. So I use it and I don't think about it and then.

• 44:22Caleb Hammer?

  It is immediate spending money.

• 44:24Speaker 03

Yeah, absolutely. Um, well, and then that's also causing me to have a lot more due in taxes this year. I probably owe about $600 in taxes.

• 44:33Caleb Hammer?

What? You don't finance six, not finance, but you should be able to pay $600 in taxes with your income.

• 44:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 44:40Caleb Hammer?

  That is kind of.

• 44:41Speaker 03

I don't know how that's gonna work. I've been putting, I've been putting off filing.

• 44:45Caleb Hammer?

Three pairs of boots that week.

• 44:48Speaker 03

Well, you know, um, I don't know. I just, I I have a hard time not doing what makes me feel good in the moment.

• 44:59Caleb Hammer?

But what can we do? What can we do to show you that there is a better path? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I see nothing, nothing here that there is that you care about, that you look forward to, other than the marriage, other than the marriage. That is the only thing I'm born from, but he's also financially, and you're right, you guys shouldn't lock in like that until you guys are in a more mature spot financially, because it's one of the leading causes of divorce in this country. So, I, I, huh?

• 45:27Speaker 03

  Exactly.

• 45:28Caleb Hammer?

So I'm aligned on that, but what can I use to be like, okay, obviously, we know this isn't working mathematically, but on the emotional front, the sacrifice you would be making, the life changes you would be making.

• 45:42Caleb Hammer?

What incentive do you have? None.

• 45:45Speaker 03

I mean, I do want to buy, and I mean, I want to build my own home, home in the future on, it's on land. So that's something I'm trying, you know, that's one of my goals that-

• 45:53Caleb Hammer?

You are not trying. You are not. Yes, I will do it again. I will do it again, lady.

• 46:02Speaker 03

  I have-

• 46:03Caleb Hammer?

That's not a jet stream, those are fucking missed.

• 46:06Speaker 03

  Feel great.

• 46:06Caleb Hammer?

This is a lie. No, that's a mess.

• 46:12Speaker 03

But, I don't know, I do want to buy a house in the future, or buy, or build a house in the future on land, get married. I'm just having a hard time growing up to that point. I'm 25 now, it's-

• 46:24Caleb Hammer?

What are you infantilizing yourself? Shut the fuck up. What is with people these days? What the? When I was eighteen, I knew I was an adult, and I was excited to go live my adult life. And what, you're a 25-year-old child? What is wrong with people these days? My goodness, you're gonna turn me into a fucking boomer. What, why are people acting like they never grew up? This is crazy. I will never understand this. The endless sensationalizing online, the endless infantilizing ourselves. It is crazy. We live in such an immature world.

• 46:53Speaker 03

That's what I'm trying to get past. I'm trying to get past that.

• 46:55Caleb Hammer?

You are not trying. Stop saying trying. You are objectively not.

• 47:01Speaker 03

  Yeah. Uh, I know.

• 47:05Caleb Hammer?

You ever feel like your phone plan is just quietly robbing you? Like somehow every month you're just paying more and actually getting less? Helium Mobile is fixing that nonsense. And their base plan, it's free, as in $0 a month. You get 3 gigs of data, 100 minutes and 300 texts for nothing. Nada. And here's where it gets even crazier. You could earn Cloud Points for sharing your anonymized location. It's totally private, but super useful for building out coverage. And those points, you can cash them in for gift cards to places like DoorDash, Airbnb, Nike, you name it. And they just juiced up the referral game. Now it's $10 for $10. You send a friend your code, they join, both of you score 10 bucks in Cloud Points.

• 47:50Caleb Hammer?

Everybody wins. And if you sign up right now and use code CALEB, you get another $10 just for joining that you redeem for gift cards. There's no waitlist either. So why keep paying for a phone plan that gives you nothing back? Make sure to switch to Helium Mobile and actually get rewarded just for living your life. Let's get back to the show. If you're still using a brokerage with fees and clunky tools, you're losing money and time. I switched to Mumu because I needed real data, reliable execution and actual trading tools, not just some basic chart with vibes. Mumu has been my primary platform for over a year now. It's where I track insider activity, monitor institutions and set up conditional orders, all from one clean interface.

• 48:34Caleb Hammer?

It's made my process smoother, which leads to peace of mind. Also, Mumu is the now official trading platform partner of the New York Mets. So yeah, they're playing in the big leagues. And here's the part I know you'll love. Mumu charges zero commissions on US stocks, ETFs and equity options. That alone was enough to make me switch. But what about the promos they got right now? It's seriously unreal because I convinced them to perfectly craft a promotion only for my audience. If you're new, deposit $2,000 and Mumu will gift you $150 in cash rewards towards your trades. And while you're in between trades, you'll earn 8.1% APY on that. Invested cash for the first three months, which is one of the highest in the industry.

Let's get back into the program.

• 49:47Speaker 03

I don't have anything else to say.

• 49:48Caleb Hammer?

Maxed out credit cards. Like, shut the [__] up. You don't know what that word means. $156.84 of interest accrued on here.

• 49:59Caleb Hammer?

500 this year so far, so what are we at? We're at 1,250-ish, 1,300-ish in interest? On just the two accounts we've looked at so far? Okay, Capital One Venture.

• 50:12Speaker 03

Yeah, that's my most recent one.

• 50:15Caleb Hammer?

Most recent? Okay, so when did you open this and why?

• 50:19Speaker 03

Probably last year, and I did it-

• 50:21Caleb Hammer?

  When last year?

• 50:22Speaker 03

Uh, July-ish, around June or July.

• 50:25Caleb Hammer?

Remember, that's basically when you're done with your progress-making period.

• 50:29Speaker 03

Yeah, I got it because I wanted to try to up my credit score.

• 50:33Caleb Hammer?

You already had your house. What are you, what are you shopping credit for?

• 50:37Speaker 03

Well, back then, I didn't have the house back then, so I was trying to-

• 50:40Caleb Hammer?

Oh, yeah, that's right. You got it in the fall. That's true.

• 50:42Speaker 03

So I was trying to, you know, open more accounts to help my credit. Because I look at Credit Karma and it says like, you know, what the impact is on it. So I thought opening it would help my credit.

• 50:54Caleb Hammer?

Oh, shocker. It's right under max. Luckily, max isn't that high, because they probably won't let you do it because your credit's [__] in like the low 600s I saw. Venture, $466.44 with a minimum monthly payment of $25, $10.63 accruing. So what were you spending on this card that got you here?

• 51:14Speaker 03

Uh, I use it for Amazon a lot for household stuff or personal things.

• 51:21Caleb Hammer?

  What personal things?

• 51:23Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 51:23Caleb Hammer?

  Households?

• 51:24Speaker 03

I've been buying some of the Italy stuff with it, like, you know, toilet bags and personal bags and stuff like that.

• 51:32Caleb Hammer?

You traveled way too much not to already have that you can just reuse. You do not need fresh new travel in containers and whatever. Every trip you do.

• 51:43Speaker 03

Well, I needed the carry on, the the personal carry on so I can put it under the seat. I didn't have anything for that.

• 51:48Caleb Hammer?

You don't have personal carry ons. You've never used that in any travel that you've ever done.

• 51:52Speaker 03

Backpack, but I need something bigger, something to fit stuff in, more stuff. Cause I'm not trying to.

• 51:56Caleb Hammer?

It's for a week. You're not there for that long.

• 52:00Speaker 03

  I'm notorious for overpacking, so.

• 52:02Caleb Hammer?

Well, obviously, because you overbuy, so you have to overpack.

• 52:06Speaker 03

  Yeah, um, oh, yeah.

• 52:10Caleb Hammer?

Let me look at Amazon. Let me look at your Amazon spending. Pull out your phone.

• 52:16Speaker 03

It's probably bad right now because I did just buy some things.

• 52:19Caleb Hammer?

  Guys, she's trying.

• 52:23Speaker 03

Good intentions. In my brain, just not in reality.

• 52:28Caleb Hammer?

I don't, I don't think so. I mean, again, you're one of those people that's just like virtue signaling online all day. Just like, look how good I am. And then actually does no real thing in the actual world. You tweet something good and then you've never contributed one thing to the actual planet or society.

• 52:46Caleb Hammer?

Like, it's like, I almost respect you less than people who don't do anything, but don't also pretend like they're good.

• 52:53Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 52:54Caleb Hammer?

Cat litter, there's a heavy duty bag, more cat mat, cat. Uh, bags, bags, cat, cat, cat, cat. Oh, my gosh, cat, endless cat. Paddling, cat, cat, cat.

• 53:11Speaker 03

  We have three cats.

• 53:12Caleb Hammer?

And a dog thing, dog, dog poop bags. Good, I'm glad you at least pick up the poop. Why do I see nine things in the cart?

• 53:19Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah, that's for Italy.

• 53:21Caleb Hammer?

Blow dryer, yeah, I think your hotel will have a blow dryer. Dry shampoo, you need that, they it will have shampoo or just, right?

• 53:29Speaker 03

Days in between, you gotta dry shampoo your hair, not to wash it completely, helps, helps it.

• 53:35Caleb Hammer?

Lindsay, is that, can you confirm that?

• 53:38Caleb Hammer?

Damn it. Okay, that's what the ladies do. Okay, a- as a non, as a non lady, I was gonna, Q-tips, very bad for you. Don't do it. Don't do it.

• 53:48Speaker 03

I have to. I get water in there. You gotta get, get it out.

• 53:53Caleb Hammer?

You know what the fuck you're doing? Just like sticking the faucet like right here? What are you, we all shower.

• 53:58Speaker 03

I get wet ears. You gotta use the Q-tips. You don't use Q-tips.

• 54:02Caleb Hammer?

No. And every ear doctor tells you not to for very clear reason.

• 54:07Speaker 03

Stick it in there. I don't like go all the way in.

• 54:09Caleb Hammer?

Then just use a towel right here.

• 54:11Speaker 03

  It doesn't do the same.

• 54:13Caleb Hammer?

You should not use Q-tips. Makeup remover, that makes sense. You got your neck pillow.

• 54:19Speaker 03

  Portable charger.

• 54:20Caleb Hammer?

Charger, okay. Lots of Kleenexes and a jewelry holder. Better not be buying new jewelry for it.

• 54:27Speaker 03

No, I already have jewelry. It's okay. I actually don't spend money on jewelry. That's the one thing I don't spend a lot of money on.

• 54:34Caleb Hammer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 54:36Caleb Hammer?

  Mm-hmm.

• 54:39Caleb Hammer?

Ten dollars of interest accrued in that month, twenty one dollars this year so far, and the two months that it was, that thirty percent interest. Synchrony, American Eagle. This is American Eagle.

• 54:50Speaker 03

Yeah. That one is used quite frequently, frequently.

• 54:56Caleb Hammer?

Why? What is your obsession with the eagle?

• 54:58Speaker 03

Uh, they have really comfy clothes. Their jeans are great. They, they, I get really good deals.

• 55:04Caleb Hammer?

American Eagle Direct US online. You're not even going in the store and trying it out. You're just...

• 55:08Speaker 03

Well, I get, I get, uh, uh, I still get a student discount, like twenty percent off, so I'll use that.

• 55:12Caleb Hammer?

  Why? Cause you're lying?

• 55:14Speaker 03

Hmm, I mean, my, my, my college email still works. It's still valid. So I just put that in. And then, uh, I mean, I get...

• 55:22Caleb Hammer?

Purchased more than you put towards it. Interest accrued. Nowhere towards paying this off. I, I...

• 55:30Speaker 03

That's a lower one. That one should take too long.

• 55:33Caleb Hammer?

Four, you're right. You should just pay it off. But again...

You purchase more than you put towards it and then it just accrues. It's even dumber that you have a small balance because it shouldn't be there. With your income, it shouldn't be there. There is no reason for you to be paying interest on this. No reason and it is such a choice that you are making. You're just actively choosing. You're just okay with it.

• 55:55Speaker 03

Yeah, but like I said, I get the discount. I get, I get cash back using the card.

• 56:00Caleb Hammer?

What cash back percentage do you get?

• 56:02Speaker 03

I mean, sometimes like, oh, I don't know the percentage, but I get rewards.

• 56:06Caleb Hammer?

If you don't even know how the math works.

• 56:09Speaker 03

  Cause the, I don't know that I.

• 56:11Caleb Hammer?

  Oh.

• 56:11Speaker 03

  The discount.

• 56:12Caleb Hammer?

  What? What's the discount?

• 56:15Speaker 03

Uh, sometimes you just have to spend like each dollar represents the point and then you get like.

• 56:20Caleb Hammer?

How much is a point worth?

• 56:22Speaker 03

I don't know. A dollar. I get like forty dollars off.

• 56:24Caleb Hammer?

No, no, no, no, no. A point is not a dollar. You don't spend a dollar, get a dollar. No, you do not get a hundred percent return on your investment. It is not, it is not, it is not.

• 56:33Speaker 03

  Well, it's not bad.

• 56:35Caleb Hammer?

No, how many points do you need to get some rewards?

• 56:38Speaker 03

  Oh, I couldn't tell you. I just.

• 56:41Caleb Hammer?

I guarantee you it is not better. Oh my gosh.

• 56:47Speaker 03

  I mean, I get like.

• 56:48Caleb Hammer?

That's thirty-four percent. I guarantee it is not better than thirty-four percent.

• 56:52Speaker 03

Well, I get like forty dollars off here and there.

• 56:54Caleb Hammer?

Yes, forty dollars off here and there after spending how much?

• 56:58Speaker 03

Probably over a hundred, but it goes towards my next one.

• 57:01Caleb Hammer?

It's gonna be much more than that.

• 57:03Speaker 03

  It's probably, I don't know, probably about a hundred.

• 57:05Caleb Hammer?

You're not getting a forty percent return on your spending.

• 57:08Speaker 03

I, I don't know. I just know I get, when I spend money, I get money. So I spend the money on it.

• 57:13Caleb Hammer?

You're probably getting like a five percent return.

• 57:17Speaker 03

It works out though. I mean.

• 57:18Caleb Hammer?

No, it doesn't. You're, you're losing thirty-three percent. Are you, what number is bigger? Drawing a crayon if you have to. Five or thirty-three?

• 57:27Speaker 03

Well, yeah, thirty-three is bigger, but.

• 57:29Caleb Hammer?

  It's not working. It doesn't, dude, it doesn't, that's not, this doesn't make sense. You're being obnoxious. You're being, no, no, you're just being stupid. I like, I don't know. I don't know. I, I, I can't, I can't get that through. Yes, you can't return.

• 57:48Caleb Hammer?

But you're giving them more than they give you by a substantial amount.

• 57:53Speaker 03

Yeah, but I mean, they have deals too. And then, like I said, the student discount. That's that's really.

• 57:57Caleb Hammer?

Student discount, but even that's only a 20% off.

• 58:00Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:01Caleb Hammer?

Again, 33% is the interest that's accruing on here. So the math still isn't working.

• 58:06Speaker 03

  Yeah, well.

• 58:09Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 58:12Caleb Hammer?

  So.

• 58:15Caleb Hammer?

  You'll stop?

• 58:16Speaker 03

In the, in, I mean, in the, in the moment, seems like a good, I mean, it seems like a good deal.

• 58:20Caleb Hammer?

But it's objectively not. We know the math. Shut the up.

• 58:24Speaker 03

  Well, yeah, but.

• 58:25Caleb Hammer?

So you'll chop it up because there's no point in using this, right?

• 58:29Speaker 03

  Yeah, okay. Yeah.

• 58:31Caleb Hammer?

  Huh?

• 58:32Speaker 03

  So, yeah, I can.

• 58:34Caleb Hammer?

  Will you?

• 58:35Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 58:38Speaker 03

  But like I.

• 58:38Caleb Hammer?

  I don't believe you.

• 58:39Speaker 03

I normally use it online, though, so.

• 58:41Caleb Hammer?

  But it even more dangerous.

• 58:42Speaker 03

Yeah, fiscal card don't really matter as much.

• 58:46Speaker 03

  Oh, happy birthday.

• 58:48Caleb Hammer?

What is this? Care credit? Why?

• 58:50Speaker 03

  Oh, I have five animals.

• 58:53Caleb Hammer?

No, why is it always, listen?

• 58:58Caleb Hammer?

Alabama, every time I get someone from the fucking, that coast, that coast of the Gulf, which is always is a thousand animals. And as an animal lover, like, you probably can't afford it. Well, I mean, you can't. You're maxed out on every credit card. This is one maxed out? Actually, no, somehow it is a few hundred dollars away. Don't know how you did that. Care credit, $1,473.05. So you're saying this was vet bills?

• 59:21Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 59:24Caleb Hammer?

What? You not have pet insurance?

• 59:26Speaker 03

  I don't.

• 59:27Caleb Hammer?

Why would you get an animal if you can't afford pet insurance to take care of their emergencies when they will inevitably happen because they're an animal?

• 59:35Speaker 03

Well, I didn't, at first I didn't realize pet insurance was a thing.

• 59:38Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 59:39Speaker 03

  But.

• 59:39Caleb Hammer?

So you didn't do any due diligence before you took on a big life responsibility? Great. What kind of pets are they?

• 59:44Speaker 03

I have two dogs, a pit bull and a mutt mix. And then I have three, three cats.

• 59:49Caleb Hammer?

  Mutt mix?

• 59:50Speaker 03

Yeah, I don't know what she is.

• 59:51Caleb Hammer?

  A mutt's not a breed.

• 59:52Speaker 03

I don't know what she is. She's like pit bull and probably something else.

• 59:55Caleb Hammer?

  It's a mutt.

• 59:56Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 59:56Caleb Hammer?

  Not a mutt mix.

• 59:58Speaker 03

Okay, a mutt, sorry. A mutt. Yes, I don't know. I don't know what she is. Probably some pit bull.

• 1:00:04Caleb Hammer?

  What are the other three?

• 1:00:05Speaker 03

  Three cats.

• 1:00:06Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, okay. See, these are pet insurance type animals. Those are animals that live like a decade, if not more, if we're lucky, you get pet insurance because during that time, they do something dumb. They eat something they shouldn't. They get into something they shouldn't. And you're not just gonna let them die. And if you are, you're an irresponsible pet owner. You're just gonna be the one adopting them.

• 1:00:25Speaker 03

Well, that's what happened on that card.

• 1:00:27Caleb Hammer?

Exactly. But it's gonna happen more and more. And then you're just gonna be further in debt. So they're just paying for, oh.

• 1:00:34Speaker 03

I have been looking into pet insurance.

• 1:00:35Caleb Hammer?

So what happened? You've been looking. Great. I bet that's your version of trying. You downloaded the app. Didn't use it.

• 1:00:41Speaker 03

I looked to see what the quote would be. Um, but I-

• 1:00:45Caleb Hammer?

  Like a year ago?

• 1:00:47Speaker 03

No, actually, like, like a couple of weeks ago, actually, I was looking to see how much it would be a mutt.

• 1:00:52Caleb Hammer?

She gives me a face like she thinks she accomplished something with that. Okay.

• 1:00:56Speaker 03

But I think you can only put three. Okay. Um, well, first I had to get a cat fixed. I had a kitten. I had to get her fixed. And then-

• 1:01:03Caleb Hammer?

Which, by the way, before you do that, usually you look, oftentimes there are community organizations that will do fixing for free or cheap.

• 1:01:12Speaker 03

Yeah, well, I went to a vet that my best friend has worked at forever. So it's like I knew the people there. So that's why I went to a specific vet and not like, because we have like Spain.

• 1:01:22Caleb Hammer?

Because you have so much money. Yeah, okay.

• 1:01:24Speaker 03

Well, okay. Well, and then the, my black cat, my oldest black cat, he started having-

• 1:01:29Caleb Hammer?

What? Keep going. I know you're from Bama. Try your hardest. Come on.

• 1:01:34Speaker 03

Um, he got, he had bladder issues and he had to go, he had to be hospitalized twice in like the course of two weeks. So that was very expensive for, to have them hold him and like do all the stuff.

• 1:01:47Speaker 00

• 1:02:12Speaker 03

IV catheter, all that kinda stuff. Well, I almost took him to a, I had to take him to an emergency vet and that was gonna cost probably like two grand. Um, but then I ended up taking him to regular vet. Um, so it was, I mean, it was still like overall, probably about eighteen hundred, but not as much as it would have been at the emergency vet. So, um, but yeah, that's what's on that card. My animals have gotten sick recently.

• 1:02:37Caleb Hammer?

  You don't deserve animals.

• 1:02:38Speaker 03

  Don't say that.

• 1:02:39Caleb Hammer?

No, you don't. You're not doing those necessary.

• 1:02:41Speaker 03

  I love animals.

• 1:02:42Caleb Hammer?

You love them. You don't deserve them.

• 1:02:44Speaker 03

  I take care of them.

• 1:02:45Caleb Hammer?

  No more, right?

• 1:02:48Speaker 03

No more. No, no, no, no.

• 1:02:49Caleb Hammer?

  No more animals.

• 1:02:50Speaker 03

Absolutely not. But, uh, yeah, no more. I grew up with a lot of dogs. So that's why I'm like, I love animals. Gotta have them. Gotta have some animals.

• 1:03:00Caleb Hammer?

Is that you and your boyfriend combined or does he have additional?

• 1:03:03Speaker 03

No, he, well, the one of the dogs is his and then the rest are all of ours together, both of ours together.

• 1:03:09Caleb Hammer?

Hopefully he doesn't wanna get anymore, right?

• 1:03:11Speaker 03

No, no, no, no. He's done.

• 1:03:15Caleb Hammer?

Okay. A little bit of interest. I bet some's on deferred.

• 1:03:21Caleb Hammer?

Yep. Okay. And that's at about thirty percent. Then the other ones, the interest starts kicking in one and later this year and two early next year. • 1:04:46Speaker 03

  Is that my Upstart loan?

• 1:04:48Caleb Hammer?

Oh, is it? I don't know, but you borrowed 6,160, but you're paying back a total of 10,929.

• 1:04:55Speaker 03

Yeah, that was an Upstart loan.

• 1:04:56Caleb Hammer?

  What? For why?

• 1:04:57Speaker 03

Uh, well, I got initially to consolidate debt.

• 1:05:03Caleb Hammer?

Great. Oh, yeah, here we go, guys. I consolidated debt without changing any behavior. Never seen that before.

• 1:05:10Speaker 03

Yeah, so I got it to consolidate debt and then it was Christmas time around the time I got it. So then I ended up using a lot of it on Christmas for family.

• 1:05:22Caleb Hammer?

What is wrong with this country? What is wrong with human civilization? We can't have self-control for one fucking holiday. One.

• 1:05:34Speaker 03

  Well, it's...

• 1:05:34Caleb Hammer?

And make our lives better so that we can have amazing Christmases for the rest of our lives. We can't sacrifice one. Oh, my.

• 1:05:44Speaker 03

  And also...

• 1:05:44Caleb Hammer?

  It's infuriating.

• 1:05:46Speaker 03

Yeah, that's why I also pulled that 1,500 for my dad for Italy. I used...

• 1:05:50Caleb Hammer?

Oh, my gosh, so right after you consolidated, you blow it all on Christmas. Right after consolidating, you borrow money from your dad to go to Italy.

• 1:05:59Speaker 03

  Yeah. Um...

• 1:06:02Caleb Hammer?

  Was this last year?

• 1:06:04Speaker 03

Yeah, this was in December. Yeah, December.

• 1:06:08Caleb Hammer?

Right after you got your fucking house!

• 1:06:10Speaker 03

  Yes, it was.

• 1:06:12Caleb Hammer?

The fuck are you doing? You get the house, you consolidate, and you ruin everything, and now the cards are all maxed out again. In just a couple of months, you consolidate fucking 6,160 dollars. And just a couple of months later, that we are sitting here and they are all maxed out again.

• 1:06:26Speaker 03

  Yeah, they...

• 1:06:27Caleb Hammer?

You didn't stop spending. You did not stop spending, like you said. Or else they would not be maxed out if you consolidated just a couple of months ago.

• 1:06:36Speaker 03

  Well...

• 1:06:37Caleb Hammer?

  Lies!

• 1:06:38Speaker 03

  I tried, I probably paid...

• 1:06:40Caleb Hammer?

  No! You did not! Try!

• 1:06:43Speaker 03

I think I paid off, like, the smaller stuff. I got in a firm, I think I paid off some tires. I got in some tires for my car.

• 1:06:50Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, we'll see.

• 1:06:51Speaker 03

I paid that off with it and maybe like one other small thing. But I, uh, yeah, ended up spending it on Christmas, mostly.

• 1:07:01Caleb Hammer?

You have a fucking house we can barely afford. And we blow it all on Christmas.

• 1:07:09Speaker 03

Yeah, I just wanted to give everybody gifts.

• 1:07:12Caleb Hammer?

I know what you wanted. Sometimes we give up what we want for a greater fucking good, for the greater part of your fucking life, for better Christmases in the future. How much did you spend on Christmas?

• 1:07:26Speaker 03

Well, I bought, on my boyfriend alone, I probably spent about 500 or more.

• 1:07:32Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 1:07:33Speaker 03

Cause I got some concert tickets.

• 1:07:34Caleb Hammer?

Six thousand, 500 to 6,000, okay.

• 1:07:38Speaker 03

Um, yeah, um, but I bought concert tickets with it for my boyfriend Kendrick Lamar in April. Um, and then I got him some like AirPods, some stuff for work, like a cooler, and some clothes, some shoes, um.

• 1:07:58Caleb Hammer?

What is the balance on this right now?

• 1:08:02Speaker 03

Oh, probably six, six, I think it was like 7,000 total I have to pay off. So like 6,800 maybe, um, is what it's still.

• 1:08:15Caleb Hammer?

Well, you're gonna be paying a total of 11,000 if you don't pay it off early. 25.38% interest rate, all for Christmas gifts. And it says you may be entitled to a refund of a part of the finance charge if you pay it off early.

• 1:08:36Speaker 03

I know that. Well, also, well, I ended up buying myself some Christmas gifts too, to wrap and put under the tree. So I'd have stuff to open. Cause I bought my boyfriend a lot of things. I wanted to be able to have enough for me to open too. So, um, yeah, a lot of that money was on Christmas.

• 1:09:01Caleb Hammer?

I still don't have the thing necessary to be like, this is why it is worth actually

• 1:09:12Caleb Hammer?

  sacrificing.

• 1:09:14Speaker 03

I do have goals in the future, like I, I, I'm

• 1:09:17Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, you wanna build a fucking house, but

• 1:09:20Speaker 03

I don't wanna have kids eventually, like

• 1:09:22Caleb Hammer?

  Really, okay.

• 1:09:23Speaker 03

Yeah, so, you know, I'm, I want

• 1:09:25Caleb Hammer?

But you're not even close to marriage! Because seventy thousand dollars of bad debt, not even close to marriage.

• 1:09:33Speaker 03

I mean, we've talked about it.

• 1:09:35Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, we've talked about it, but you guys aren't willing to until you guys are both in better financial positions, but you have ten thousand dollars more in bad debt, not even including your mortgage, bad debt than you do in income on an annual basis. Then you have your cost of living that eat into that. Then you just travel twice a quarter.

• 1:09:56Caleb Hammer?

And concert tickets, this is probably just another show. Just another show coming right around the corner, another big music festival, right?

• 1:10:04Speaker 03

Yeah, I mean, I've been looking at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, but

• 1:10:10Speaker 03

  I don't, like

• 1:10:10Caleb Hammer?

Which one's more important, kids or Lollapalooza?

• 1:10:16Caleb Hammer?

  Which one's more important?

• 1:10:18Speaker 03

  I mean, kids, I want, I want

• 1:10:20Caleb Hammer?

Then sacrifice, then don't go to Lollapalooza!

• 1:10:23Speaker 03

I know, I'm just in my early

• 1:10:25Caleb Hammer?

  This is your choice.

• 1:10:27Speaker 03

I know, I'm just in my early twenties, I'm like, I wanna

• 1:10:29Caleb Hammer?

Well, when do you wanna have kids? Cause remember this debt takes you to your seventies.

• 1:10:34Speaker 03

I mean, when I'm in my thirties.

• 1:10:36Caleb Hammer?

Well, you dumb tank, guess what, thirties before seventies. So I don't know what to say. If you want kids by your thirties, you need to start this now!

• 1:10:45Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah, I know, I know, I, I

• 1:10:47Caleb Hammer?

Do you know? Cause you're not doing anything! You consolidated a couple of months ago and built them all back up. And spent a lot of the consolidation on fucking the new debt

• 1:11:02Caleb Hammer?

  on Christmas.

• 1:11:05Speaker 03

  Yeah, um

• 1:11:09Speaker 03

  I, yeah, I

• 1:11:14Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:11:16Caleb Hammer?

  Insightful.

• 1:11:20Caleb Hammer?

Sheen, you're buying sheen and financing it. To pay through for.

• 1:11:28Speaker 03

  Yeah, I regret that one.

• 1:11:30Caleb Hammer?

  Great.

• 1:11:32Speaker 03

  Sheen's not good.

• 1:11:34Caleb Hammer?

What are you affirming? Because I feel like there's probably more than just this.

• 1:11:38Speaker 03

Uh, I have enough. The firm's for my couch. So I use my couch for.

• 1:11:42Caleb Hammer?

  What?

• 1:11:43Speaker 03

Well, that's why I have the rooms to go too, because I tried to get a rooms to go credit card and it wasn't enough.

• 1:11:49Caleb Hammer?

  So you then.

• 1:11:51Speaker 03

So then I used to firm instead because they wouldn't give me high enough credit limit on the rooms to go credit card. I used to firm instead.

• 1:11:59Caleb Hammer?

Okay, rooms to go, you're 2,220. I didn't, I don't see that on your firm.

• 1:12:05Speaker 03

  That, the couch?

• 1:12:06Caleb Hammer?

  No, yes.

• 1:12:07Speaker 03

  Should be on my firm.

• 1:12:08Caleb Hammer?

Well, maybe it's in a different statement then, because just on this affirmed document alone, I only see the sheen.

• 1:12:14Speaker 03

  Hmm.

• 1:12:17Speaker 03

Maybe I forgot to send it. I definitely have the affirm for.

• 1:12:19Caleb Hammer?

How much is owed on a firm?

• 1:12:21Speaker 03

  About 2,000 for the couch.

• 1:12:25Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, on a firm?

• 1:12:26Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:12:27Caleb Hammer?

Oh, what's the interest on that?

• 1:12:29Speaker 03

  Probably.

• 1:12:31Caleb Hammer?

Probably like 30, 40% on a firm. Okay, what's your minimum monthly on that?

• 1:12:35Speaker 03

  185, 20.

• 1:12:38Caleb Hammer?

  Huh?

• 1:12:39Speaker 03

  185, 20.

• 1:12:40Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 1:12:41Speaker 03

That comes out of our joint account.

• 1:12:43Caleb Hammer?

And then on this rooms to go one, the 32.84% interest, usually rooms to go 0%, so you just went full stupid about this.

• 1:12:52Speaker 03

Oh, I think, okay, that is the affirm for the couch. It's just linked because I bought it from rooms to go.

• 1:12:57Caleb Hammer?

So it's affirmed through rooms to go. Okay.

• 1:13:00Speaker 03

Yes, yes, yes. That's what that is.

• 1:13:01Caleb Hammer?

Uh, so that's the same thing. That's your 183, 185?

• 1:13:05Speaker 03

  Uh, 182, 15.

• 1:13:07Caleb Hammer?

  182, 15. Okay.

• 1:13:09Speaker 03

  Something like that.

• 1:13:11Caleb Hammer?

  2,220 and 75.

• 1:13:17Caleb Hammer?

So I'm guessing you're just loading up all your rooms with new furniture. How are you affording to get all that?

• 1:13:24Speaker 03

Uh, just, I mean, with the cards. I had to get the affirm it or use another credit card that I need to use it. Or I do like Afterpay, Klarna, um, stuff like that to pay overtime.

• 1:13:44Caleb Hammer?

  Crape.

• 1:13:46Speaker 03

Yeah, and like I said, I had enough firm for the tires and I used the loan to pay that off. So, um, this was recent and that's for Italy.

• 1:13:58Caleb Hammer?

Great, so you have a debt for a debt.

• 1:14:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:14:02Caleb Hammer?

Pay off your debt with the consolidation?

• 1:14:04Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:14:05Caleb Hammer?

So you never, when you said you paid off your debt at the beginning, you didn't pay off your debt. You now have a consolidated interest debt, interest debt. You didn't pay off your debt. You said I paid off, you, you let, you, man? Dude, you completely manipulated that part of the conversation.

• 1:14:25Speaker 03

I mean, I paid him with the.

• 1:14:27Caleb Hammer?

But you didn't pay. You borrowed.

• 1:14:31Speaker 03

  I mean.

• 1:14:31Caleb Hammer?

You looked, it looked like there was a fucking diamond in the rough there. And then you, and you, but you left out the most critical piece. You didn't pay. You borrowed.

• 1:14:42Speaker 03

Yeah, to consolidate and try to do.

• 1:14:45Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but you didn't pay. You didn't pay. You didn't sacrifice. You didn't save. You didn't do fucking anything other than apply for a loan. Oh, my gosh.

• 1:14:58Speaker 03

I'd rather owe a loan than owe my dad.

• 1:15:00Caleb Hammer?

Really? You'd rather owe a 30% loan than zero?

• 1:15:04Speaker 03

  To my dad, yes.

• 1:15:04Caleb Hammer?

I get it with the, with the, why'd you borrow it from him, you tit?

• 1:15:08Speaker 03

Cause I wanted to go to Italy. He, he, he mentioned.

• 1:15:11Caleb Hammer?

  From him?

• 1:15:12Speaker 03

Cause he, he said he would pay for it if I paid him back. So I started paying him back.

• 1:15:16Caleb Hammer?

Though, if you'd rather have a personal loan than him?

• 1:15:20Speaker 03

  Uh, except his?

• 1:15:23Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, yes.

• 1:15:27Speaker 03

Cause I, I don't, I wanted to pay him off, pay him full before we left. I was supposed to pay him before we left on the trip. So I used.

• 1:15:34Caleb Hammer?

Borrowed for? Did you think you were gonna borrow to pay him off? Or do you think you were gonna pay him off?

• 1:15:38Speaker 03

I was planning on just paying him.

• 1:15:40Caleb Hammer?

  Planning?

• 1:15:41Speaker 03

  Yeah, every month.

• 1:15:42Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, what was the plan?

• 1:15:43Speaker 03

  Like $200 every month.

• 1:15:45Caleb Hammer?

  How'd that go?

• 1:15:46Speaker 03

  Not great.

• 1:15:46Caleb Hammer?

  Did you pay any?

• 1:15:48Speaker 03

I, I paid for like the first two months and then.

• 1:15:50Caleb Hammer?

You're incapable of doing anything longer than fucking up more than two months. If there's anything good in your life, you can only do it for two months. Don't have a kid, cause you'll lose interest in taking care of it after two months.

• 1:16:01Speaker 03

  I don't think so. I'd.

• 1:16:02Caleb Hammer?

  Nothing historically to say otherwise.

• 1:16:07Speaker 03

I don't know. I try, I try to, I tried to pay him off.

• 1:16:10Caleb Hammer?

No, you didn't. Stop saying that fucking word. You don't know what that word means.

• 1:16:17Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:16:19Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah.

• 1:16:20Caleb Hammer?

  You what?

• 1:16:21Speaker 03

  Nothing.

• 1:16:22Caleb Hammer?

  You what?

• 1:16:22Speaker 03

  Nothing. Nothing. Uh, nothing.

• 1:16:26Caleb Hammer?

  This is Instacash.

• 1:16:28Speaker 03

  Uh, yeah.

• 1:16:29Caleb Hammer?

Are those like those little just paychecks that hit you early?

• 1:16:32Speaker 03

  Uh huh.

• 1:16:32Caleb Hammer?

Why are you doing that? If you're falling into that trap, you're likely.

• 1:16:36Speaker 03

Yeah, I think I was stuck in that for a minute. Cause I didn't.

• 1:16:40Caleb Hammer?

  When did you start?

• 1:16:42Speaker 03

Oh, I was, I was using Dave a while ago and then I got kicked off Dave.

• 1:16:47Caleb Hammer?

Of course, you're gonna pay back?

• 1:16:48Speaker 03

  I paid it back.

• 1:16:49Caleb Hammer?

  How'd you get kicked off?

• 1:16:50Speaker 03

Uh, I think, cause I was just, I don't, honestly, I don't remember why I got kicked off. I just remember getting kicked off.

• 1:16:55Caleb Hammer?

You would've been a money milking machine.

• 1:16:56Speaker 03

I mean, I definitely paid it all back. I don't know why they kicked me off.

• 1:16:59Caleb Hammer?

  On time?

• 1:17:00Speaker 03

Yeah, I think. I just got kicked off of it. So then I started using Money Lion instead.

• 1:17:07Caleb Hammer?

  Money Lion?

• 1:17:08Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:17:10Caleb Hammer?

How much you owe to them right now?

• 1:17:11Speaker 03

  Zero right now.

• 1:17:12Caleb Hammer?

  You make sixty thou-

• 1:17:40Caleb Hammer?

So you're not in the trap?

• 1:17:42Speaker 03

I probably will be. I just got paid yesterday. So that's why.

• 1:17:47Caleb Hammer?

Why? You make sixty, you make a, you make a median household United States income in a cheaper area. What is wrong with you? You have no ability to be mature with your money.

• 1:18:01Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:18:02Caleb Hammer?

Fucking please download the app. My gosh.

• 1:18:04Speaker 03

  Impulse buying is the worst.

• 1:18:13Caleb Hammer?

Set yourself a category, a limit on what you can spend on boots.

• 1:18:18Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:18:18Caleb Hammer?

  Okay?

• 1:18:19Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:18:20Caleb Hammer?

Set up a savings goal in there.

• 1:18:23Caleb Hammer?

For a concert. You can do this, you just have to manage it accurately.

• 1:18:27Speaker 03

Well, see, that's why I don't know how I'm supposed to pay monthly minimums and also put money aside for savings.

• 1:18:32Caleb Hammer?

Cause you budget it, because you prop, I mean, we'll find out when I make you a budget if you even have enough. Oh, my gosh, yeah, you insta cash like crazy. How much do you borrow in a month typically?

• 1:18:41Speaker 03

Probably about 200, up to 200 a month.

• 1:18:44Caleb Hammer?

Than that. I saw probably three, 400, three to 400.

• 1:18:48Speaker 03

Well, I had to use it to get the plane ticket here, but um.

• 1:18:52Caleb Hammer?

Use the reimbursement to immediately pay it off then?

• 1:18:55Speaker 03

  I will.

• 1:18:56Caleb Hammer?

Uh, student loans, that's a, yeah, what was your degree in?

• 1:19:00Speaker 03

Uh, in global business with a concentration in management.

• 1:19:04Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, you're actually using it.

• 1:19:05Speaker 03

  Yes, I am.

• 1:19:06Caleb Hammer?

If you want a course career certification to boost your resume and hopefully get a higher income eventually, just let me know which one you want and I'll gift it to you.

• 1:19:14Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 1:19:14Caleb Hammer?

It's been used by the audience.

• 1:19:16Speaker 03

Yeah, I've been debating on if I should try to get a master's degree or if it's worth it.

• 1:19:21Caleb Hammer?

I mean, it can be. If you can do it in off hours for you, that would be best. Right now, I need you to really utilize this income to pay off this debt. What's your minimum monthly payments on your student loans?

• 1:19:31Speaker 03

Uh, I don't have any right now because it's in forbearance, so.

• 1:19:35Caleb Hammer?

Were you a part of the save plan?

• 1:19:37Speaker 03

Yeah, well, I think I'm part of the ID something, I'm part of some.

• 1:19:41Caleb Hammer?

Income driven repayment, but you make a good income. I am down for those programs for people that struggle. You shouldn't be, your, your struggle's a choice. For two years, you've been making a really good income. You should pay back the student loans that got you to make that income.

• 1:19:58Speaker 03

Yeah, but since I don't have, since I'm not.

• 1:19:59Caleb Hammer?

For those who are struggling, absolutely. Let's put them on income driven. Your income driven should be pay your payments. Your payment would be 250 bucks a month, probably. You can do that.

• 1:20:10Speaker 03

Yeah, it's like 145, but uh, it's got 0% interest right now, so I don't have to pay it, so.

• 1:20:16Caleb Hammer?

This is why people are angry about forgiveness stuff, because people like you shouldn't be the one that's benefiting from that.

• 1:20:23Speaker 03

I mean, I they I put in all my income and they accepted it.

• 1:20:25Caleb Hammer?

I know, exactly. That's the problem.

• 1:20:29Speaker 03

They didn't have to accept me.

• 1:20:30Caleb Hammer?

I know, and that's the problem. Do you not understand what I'm saying? Ally, no, Penn Air. It looks like Ally. Penn Air? Oh, credit union.

• 1:20:40Speaker 03

  Yeah, it's my car.

• 1:20:41Caleb Hammer?

But this is a car. Oh, Kia Forte, 2017. Okay.

• 1:20:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:20:47Caleb Hammer?

Okay, what's the interest rate on that?

• 1:20:49Speaker 03

  Uh, probably, I think it's 3.99. It's really good.

• 1:20:51Caleb Hammer?

  Is it really?

• 1:20:52Speaker 03

  Yeah, I got it like

• 1:20:53Caleb Hammer?

  That is good.

• 1:20:54Speaker 03

2021, when the whole used car thing was going on.

• 1:20:57Caleb Hammer?

Okay, well, I don't hate that.

• 1:20:59Speaker 03

Wasn't, yeah, I but I walked into the dealership.

• 1:21:02Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, I hate this.

• 1:21:03Speaker 03

  What?

• 1:21:04Caleb Hammer?

Whoa, hold on. No, this is not true. This can't be true. What do you think it is worth? First of all, you owe $12,533.17 on it. What is it worth?

• 1:21:15Speaker 03

If I had to guess, probably like 6,000 or something crazy.

• 1:21:17Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, it's worth 3,800.

• 1:21:19Speaker 03

  God.

• 1:21:20Caleb Hammer?

What the you're under? I'm glad you have an incredible interest rate. You're underwater by almost $10,000. On a $12,000 loan.

• 1:21:29Speaker 03

Well, I when I went to get a car, I went into the dealership like right after work and I left that day with a car and like

• 1:21:37Caleb Hammer?

This is what always happens. And the interest rate, but this is where I can't get an affordable car. I can't find it anywhere. My my my my my. Yes, there's a lot of struggle and it takes a lot of time. But that's the thing is it take a lot of time. It takes a lot of research. You gotta take things to mechanics. You gotta put in the fucking work. Your salesman's best day of their life when you are the person that is the vast majority of people that honestly get cars. They go into the one place to see a car. They like it. They walk out. You gotta put in time. Take home transportation, even taking Ubers for a couple of months, even though it's expensive for those couple of months, is worth it over the course of multiple years. If you don't get into insane stupid loan and you got into an insane stupid law, did you roll over negative equity or something?

• 1:22:15Speaker 03

  No, I

• 1:22:15Caleb Hammer?

This is without rolling over negative equity?

• 1:22:18Speaker 03

No, I had a I got in a car accident, so I got some money. I totaled my car and I got some money back. And so

• 1:22:26Caleb Hammer?

And even with putting that money towards this, you are this underwater.

• 1:22:29Speaker 03

Yeah, cuz I still owe my last car.

• 1:22:30Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, you got swindled. Swindled.

• 1:22:34Speaker 03

I had to find a way to get to work. I had to get to work.

• 1:22:37Caleb Hammer?

Uber, you little And you wouldn't be $10,000 under the fucking, whatever, whatever. What do we do?

• 1:22:43Speaker 03

Well, at the time, it seemed more expensive to do Uber.

• 1:22:44Caleb Hammer?

At the time, at the time, at the time, yeah, at the time, everything. Great. What's your minimum monthly payment on it?

• 1:22:51Speaker 03

  Two ninety-six.

• 1:22:52Caleb Hammer?

Why do I see a payment of two forty-two then?

• 1:22:55Speaker 03

Hmm, I might have, there might have already been some money in the account. I sometimes pay a little bit over and I'll have a couple extra dollars in there. Um, but it's two ninety-six a month. I did have to, I think.

• 1:23:08Caleb Hammer?

How is it? How's the car doing?

• 1:23:11Speaker 03

Oh, it's not doing well right now.

• 1:23:13Caleb Hammer?

  Nothing.

• 1:23:13Speaker 03

I'm, I'm, when I get back, I'm gonna have to, have to take it somewhere.

• 1:23:17Caleb Hammer?

  What? What's happening?

• 1:23:18Speaker 03

The, it's been stalling a little bit.

• 1:23:20Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, transmission?

• 1:23:22Speaker 03

Hopefully not. I was, it's just, it'll, it'll, while I'm driving, it'll just kinda stop.

• 1:23:27Caleb Hammer?

It feels transmissiony. What happened to me when I lost the transmission? I don't know much about cars, though.

• 1:23:33Speaker 03

Well, me either. That's why I'm like, I don't know.

• 1:23:34Caleb Hammer?

But that is at least what happened to me when my transmission was failing in my twenty thirteen Nissan Altima.

• 1:23:39Speaker 03

Yeah, and I've been trying to put it off as long as possible.

• 1:23:42Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 1:23:43Speaker 03

  Um, but.

• 1:23:44Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, but now you probably can't trade it in and then not catch it.

• 1:23:49Caleb Hammer?

Cause I was able to get away with that. Is that moral? I don't know. Still did it. It's fine.

• 1:23:53Speaker 03

Hey, that's a great idea. I mean, I've thought about that.

• 1:23:55Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, well, yours is probably fucked now.

• 1:23:58Speaker 03

Yeah, check engine, but the check engine light comes on and then goes off, so like I had a little bit more time.

• 1:24:04Caleb Hammer?

But the three thousand dollar, I put it underwater by about nine thousand five hundred dollars on it. Uh, but that's until they know that your transmission is failing.

• 1:24:15Speaker 03

I, I think I started out with eighteen thousand on it or something crazy.

• 1:24:20Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, how long have you had this loan? And it's still obviously gonna be around forever, other than the car's gonna be around at this pace.

• 1:24:28Speaker 03

Uh, yeah, for sure. I think the car is about to, about to bust. It's getting there.

• 1:24:35Caleb Hammer?

Why'd you have to say that? No one talks like that.

• 1:24:39Speaker 03

  What?

• 1:24:40Caleb Hammer?

  About to bust?

• 1:24:41Speaker 03

Oh, it's about to drop. It's about to die. It's about to die.

• 1:24:48Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah, it's a 4%.

• 1:24:51Caleb Hammer?

It's a good interest rate, just bad loan.

• 1:24:54Speaker 03

Yeah. Which I, at that point, I think I was just more focused on the interest rate because that's what everybody was telling me was like, make sure you get a low interest rate. So the total cost, I don't think I really thought about.

• 1:25:06Caleb Hammer?

Okay, so here's the house. Two hundred four thousand, three hundred six dollars and forty two cents is your remaining mortgage. Okay. How much did you put down?

• 1:25:16Speaker 03

Nothing because it was a first time home buyer. So I got the.

• 1:25:20Caleb Hammer?

  FHA?

• 1:25:21Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:25:21Caleb Hammer?

So you put a little down, but.

• 1:25:23Speaker 03

  Well, yeah, I think.

• 1:25:27Speaker 03

I think, well, I had to pay off credit cards to, to get the loan.

• 1:25:32Speaker 03

I think I had to pay off the care credit, the, I had a Home Depot card and then.

• 1:25:37Speaker 03

Yeah, but yeah, to, and I put like.

• 1:25:40Caleb Hammer?

That's a thousand one hundred seventy six dollars on a monthly basis?

• 1:25:43Speaker 03

  Yes. It is.

• 1:25:46Caleb Hammer?

  Type in the address.

• 1:25:49Speaker 03

Send in, send a new construction.

• 1:25:51Caleb Hammer?

  Type in the address.

• 1:26:01Speaker 03

  Oh, not the right one.

• 1:26:08Speaker 03

  Right now.

• 1:26:11Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, okay. Well.

• 1:26:15Caleb Hammer?

Oh, no. All right. She has an equity position of. Wait for it.

• 1:26:25Caleb Hammer?

  Three hundred dollars.

• 1:26:26Speaker 03

  Are you serious?

• 1:26:28Caleb Hammer?

Which means if you sell it, you definitely lost because you're likely going to pay 6%, 3% to the seller agent, 3% to the buyer's agent. That's not 100% required these days. You can negotiate that, but um.

• 1:26:39Speaker 03

Well, I was planning on staying in it for like seven to 10 years.

• 1:26:42Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, you plan on it until something happens where all of a sudden you can't. That's not how that works. That's all you need in equity position. You need a fully funded emergency fund. All I saw was max our credit cards. So fuck you. Sorry, but that's not how it works. Also, it's going to be a harder house to sell. I mean, it's 1,200 square feet. You usually want at least 1,500 for resale ability. Three bed, two bath. At least you do have that because that is kind of the minimum that you'd want for easy resale. But it's going to be a harder time for, you're going to be looking for either a starting family or first time home buyer.

• 1:27:09Speaker 03

Oh, that's for sure. Well, that's what most of the neighborhood is.

• 1:27:12Caleb Hammer?

  Yourself.

• 1:27:14Speaker 03

Yeah, but it's in a great area.

• 1:27:16Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, I'm sorry.

• 1:27:18Speaker 03

  What?

• 1:27:18Caleb Hammer?

No, I'm not gonna hurt your feelings.

• 1:27:21Speaker 03

  What?

• 1:27:24Speaker 03

Go ahead and do it, do it.

• 1:27:26Caleb Hammer?

  Do I? It's just, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's just, it's the landlord special.

• 1:27:32Speaker 03

The landlord special, what does that mean?

• 1:27:36Caleb Hammer?

It's very 2015 renovation, gray floors.

• 1:27:39Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 1:27:40Caleb Hammer?

Gray floors? We can't be doing gray floors.

• 1:27:45Speaker 03

  Gray or great?

• 1:27:47Caleb Hammer?

  Gray.

• 1:27:48Speaker 03

  You don't like the dark?

• 1:27:50Speaker 03

Is that not good? I thought that was way better than light colored.

• 1:27:53Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, it was good 10 years ago.

• 1:27:55Speaker 03

  I think it's still great.

• 1:27:57Caleb Hammer?

Lightwood now is what everyone's getting.

• 1:27:58Speaker 03

  New.

• 1:27:59Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:00Speaker 03

That's what my last house was and I, it just tracks too much, you can see everything on it.

• 1:28:04Caleb Hammer?

But I'm just thinking resale ability, again, you'd be selling a house that seems dated.

• 1:28:09Caleb Hammer?

Yes. I, if I know anything, it is at least real estate, that is like my passion.

• 1:28:16Speaker 03

I didn't know floors went into it that much like that.

• 1:28:19Caleb Hammer?

Floors go into it that much, have you talked to a white woman?

• 1:28:23Speaker 03

I am a white woman, unfortunately.

• 1:28:27Speaker 03

  Didn't know about that one.

• 1:28:31Caleb Hammer?

  Regions.

• 1:28:33Speaker 03

  Yeah, that's my personal account.

• 1:28:34Caleb Hammer?

$325 in a checking account, but we have a mortgage.

• 1:28:38Speaker 03

  Great.

• 1:28:38Caleb Hammer?

Okay. Oh, Winnie's got some bull, Winnie got some bull and Panera. Oh, goodness, this is all.

• 1:28:48Caleb Hammer?

How much the, did you fucking spend, huh? What did you do? What have you done? Where is it? If I could find it, where would it be?

• 1:29:07Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, almost $500 going out to you and almost $500 on Miss Laney's bull.

• 1:29:12Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:29:12Caleb Hammer?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:13Speaker 03

  Going out to.

• 1:29:14Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, Zaxby's Cash App and out, Cash App and out, Spotify Cash App and out. Where's Cash App going?

• 1:29:20Speaker 03

  Uh.

• 1:29:20Caleb Hammer?

  Where's Cash App going?

• 1:29:21Speaker 03

Either to my boyfriend or my mom.

• 1:29:22Caleb Hammer?

Okay, great. Why? Well, okay. Apple, Chick-fil-A, Cash App, Cash App, Cash App, Chick-fil-A, Rusty's, can't uh, winning gas. Okay, when you go to the gas station for three dollars, what are you getting?

• 1:29:35Speaker 03

• 1:30:30Speaker 03

Well, yeah, but the, the, the, down there, they have like a little grab and go section.

• 1:30:34Caleb Hammer?

Great, pack of lunch, you just got a kitchen, use it.

Savings went down two hundred dollars.

• 1:31:01Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:31:02Caleb Hammer?

Sounds good, you have nineteen hundred. I'm glad you have that, but it went down.

• 1:31:06Speaker 03

Yeah, we got, I got my, my deposit back from the rental and then I put all of it in, say, I think I put like five hundred dollars in savings. Um, but something came up and I had to pull it out.

• 1:31:19Speaker 03

And had to pull it out.

• 1:31:20Caleb Hammer?

  Wait.

• 1:31:22Speaker 03

  What?

• 1:31:25Caleb Hammer?

In this account is McDonald's, McDonald's, Domino's, Edgar's Bakery, Cracker Barrel, Amazon, Pickly Wiggly Monsters, maybe Blue Tequila. What the fuck are you doing? What the fuck are you doing? It's going down in this McDonald's, Amazon, Amazon Sonic, Shake Shack, brew. Come on. $50 in the savings account? Bullshit.

• 1:31:48Caleb Hammer?

Oh, and then the savings account, a dollar went down from 500. Off.

• 1:31:57Caleb Hammer?

401K, 12,000, actually, a weird surprise to finish these documents with. Okay, a surprise, for sure.

• 1:32:10Speaker 03

  That's one thing I don't touch, 401K.

• 1:32:11Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, and you better not. Don't even consider it. Don't even let that be something that you acknowledge is possible.

• 1:32:16Speaker 03

  Nope.

• 1:32:17Caleb Hammer?

  Okay?

• 1:32:17Speaker 03

  It's not there.

  On the floor?

• 1:33:14Caleb Hammer?

Okay, your minimum to debt payments, let's calculate. Not including mortgage, oh.

• 1:33:21Caleb Hammer?

Kill without. It was almost half of your net. One thousand five hundred seven dollars and fifteen cents is your debt, not including your mortgage. Your mortgage, one thousand two hundred seventy six and twenty one.

• 1:33:35Caleb Hammer?

Okay. How much does he provide to the mortgage?

• 1:33:38Speaker 03

We each put half of our paycheck in to the joint account. Every paycheck.

• 1:33:42Caleb Hammer?

I don't know what the half of paycheck. Well, how do you split the mortgage? Is it down the middle?

• 1:33:45Speaker 03

  Yes, down the middle.

• 1:33:47Caleb Hammer?

Okay. I'm gonna divide that by two. Seven hundred fifty three dollars and fifty eight cents. So if you guys don't break up for financial sake. Utilities, how much do you put towards utilities?

• 1:34:02Speaker 03

  One fifty.

• 1:34:06Speaker 03

  Probably about three hundred.

• 1:34:08Caleb Hammer?

  Is that including the internet?

• 1:34:10Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 1:34:11Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, your phone bill.

• 1:34:14Speaker 03

Uh, well, we have a joint phone bill.

• 1:34:16Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, you're you're gonna have then, please.

• 1:34:18Speaker 03

  Uh, one fifty.

• 1:34:20Caleb Hammer?

You're cheating. Okay, uh, gas, just you driving, vroom vrooming.

• 1:34:25Speaker 03

Probably about a hundred dollars a week.

• 1:34:27Caleb Hammer?

A week, okay, four hundred. Car insurance, your portion, if you split it.

• 1:34:32Speaker 03

  One thirty one.

• 1:34:34Caleb Hammer?

Okay, you can contribute three hundred dollars to the food pile again. Use the cookbook. Use the cookbook. If you want the physical version, just download simpler budget, select the annual version.

• 1:34:47Caleb Hammer?

TP fund. You can do a hundred dollars to make up. Say anything you need. TP fund. Medical, healthcare.

• 1:34:54Speaker 03

A hundred and seven a month.

• 1:34:57Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, for what?

• 1:34:59Speaker 03

For, it's for dental health, all that, and it's like.

• 1:35:02Caleb Hammer?

Is that before your pay hits or after?

• 1:35:04Speaker 03

Uh, it's, it gets taken out of the paycheck.

• 1:35:06Caleb Hammer?

  Oh, okay, I'm asking what's.

• 1:35:08Speaker 03

  Oh, sorry.

• 1:35:08Caleb Hammer?

Yeah, what do you have to spend on healthcare and medical on a monthly basis?

• 1:35:12Speaker 03

Uh, I have medications for probably like fifty dollars a month.

• 1:35:15Caleb Hammer?

  Cool. What about gym?

• 1:35:18Speaker 03

Nothing. I need one. That's what we need to budget.

• 1:35:21Caleb Hammer?

You have five pets. Health and age?

• 1:35:25Speaker 03

  Of the pets?

• 1:35:25Caleb Hammer?

  Yes.

• 1:35:26Speaker 03

The, one of my dogs is two.

• 1:35:29Caleb Hammer?

  Okay.

• 1:35:30Speaker 03

  Uh, he's good.

• 1:35:31Caleb Hammer?

  Good.

• 1:35:31Speaker 03

  Perfect.

• 1:35:32Caleb Hammer?

Okay, there's forty bucks for pet insurance. Next?

• 1:35:34Speaker 03

  Uh, another dog. She's eight.

• 1:35:36Caleb Hammer?

  Nope. Next?

• 1:35:38Speaker 03

Uh, the cats. I got three cats.

• 1:35:42Caleb Hammer?

  Cat number one, age, health?

• 1:35:43Speaker 03

Cat number one is six and he's the one that was at the vet recently.

• 1:35:48Caleb Hammer?

  So nope. Okay, next?

• 1:35:49Speaker 03

Um, he's about four. He is invincible. He won't ever get sick. He's good.

• 1:35:54Caleb Hammer?

  Okay, there's forty. Next?

• 1:35:56Speaker 03

Um, the little kitten, she's about two years now and she's, she's okay. She's good. She doesn't get bad health.

• 1:36:05Caleb Hammer?

Okay, there we go. Hundred twenty dollars to pet insurance. Pet food, how much on a monthly basis?

• 1:36:09Speaker 03

Oh, well, I've had to put them on special foods, so forty, probably one twenty?

• 1:36:19Caleb Hammer?

  Cool.

• 1:36:21Caleb Hammer?

Anything else that has to be in your budget before I add it all up?

• 1:36:26Speaker 03

No. Uh, gym budget, if you want to add that in there.

• 1:36:30Caleb Hammer?

  You want, okay, yes. Yeah?

• 1:36:31Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:36:32Caleb Hammer?

  How much you need?

• 1:36:32Speaker 03

Probably like twenty bucks a month.

• 1:36:35Caleb Hammer?

Okay. Yeah, you need three thousand nine hundred fifty one dollars and seventy four cents to live on a monthly basis. You make three thousand six hundred and that's with you splitting the mortgage. So if you are underwater, uh,

• 1:36:50Caleb Hammer?

listen, you might be in a situation where bankruptcy is kind of the way out. Keep the house, keep the car, get rid of everything else. Or you're just gonna have to go work eighty hours a week and grind on this slowly and it's gonna take, I mean, let's say you make a net, an extra fi- five hundred after you're living it. So, so you need to make an extra, let's call it,

• 1:37:12Caleb Hammer?

an extra eight hundred bucks, but you have five hundred left over. Okay, seventy thousand dollars of bad debt. Again, this is not including your mortgage, divided by fifty, seventy thousand, divided by fifty.

• 1:37:26Caleb Hammer?

  Wow.

• 1:37:27Speaker 03

  Is.

• 1:37:28Caleb Hammer?

Five hundred. I'm so sorry. Okay. Seventy thousand divided by five hundred is a hundred forty months. And even that still takes twelve years and bankruptcy would be off your record at that point. But do not go through bankruptcy until you change your behavior. Again, download the simple budget app. Take all of our classes. We have four classes now, including real estate, which would have prevented you from getting in this mess. But you gotta take the budgeting one first for sure. You get them all for free.

• 1:37:54Speaker 03

Do you think bankruptcy is probably one of the other better options or?

• 1:37:59Caleb Hammer?

And even if you bring in more nine hundred dollars more a month than you are now, it's like still not making it.

• 1:38:05Speaker 03

  It's not making enough to.

• 1:38:06Caleb Hammer?

It's twelve months before you can even start saving for an emergency fund. Years, twelve years.

• 1:38:13Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 1:38:13Caleb Hammer?

  So.

• 1:38:15Caleb Hammer?

It's bankruptcy situation potentially, but you do not enter it. You do not go into it until you have proven you've changed your behavior for not three months, because that's the most you've ever been able to do, maybe six months. If you prove that you do not spend on debt, do not build debt, are able to stick to this hardcore budget for six months, then I will allow you to go through bankruptcy and it's not cheap. It's a few thousand bucks and it can be stressful.

• 1:38:41Speaker 03

Yeah, my dad's been through bankruptcy before, so.

• 1:38:43Caleb Hammer?

No, I'm like father. Spending a budget, you overspend, zero out of ten debt. Look how long it takes to pay off. I mean, the balances are brutal. It's basically as bad as you get without collections or IRS debt. So one out of ten. Emergency fund, there's nothing there because those were checking account that I looked at, but I'll give you a one out of ten for at least that checking account, but it went down. Retirement, it was at twelve thousand?

• 1:39:02Speaker 03

  Yep. How about twelve?

• 1:39:03Caleb Hammer?

Make sixty thousand, twenty five. Terms of scaling to get there, yeah. About seven out of ten to get the one times your income by the time you are thirty. Real estate, no equity position. At least you're there though. So if the market does go up, you'll gain it, but you're still in a risky position. So real estate, three out of ten.

• 1:39:23Caleb Hammer?

Good luck having to make any repairs. You are not ready.

• 1:39:26Speaker 03

Well, I got a home warranty for at least a year, so that covers, that covers the first year at least.

• 1:39:31Caleb Hammer?

And you're almost halfway through that.

• 1:39:33Speaker 03

Yeah, it's coming handy though. We've, our, our-
