Encounters x316 - Paranormal Stories from Asia

This week, we’re traveling across Asia and diving into some of the most unsettling paranormal experiences we’ve ever heard. Our listeners share spine-chilling stories rooted in cultural folklore and lived terror—tales of spirits who predict the future, impersonate loved ones, and inflict physical harm. Between the laughter, the disbelief, and the full-body chills, this episode reminded us why some ghost stories stay with you long after the episode ends. Stories include: An encounter in rural Pakistan where a possessed girl speaks in a jinn’s voice—and accurately predicts a devastating medical diagnosis A haunted family home in Cebu where something mimics loved ones so perfectly it carries on 20-minute conversations A terrifying childhood experience in Vietnam involving a crying woman in a church, prophetic dreams, and a ghostly warning that may have saved a life A Malaysian family spirit passed down through generations, bound to a dagger that mysteriously disappears, reappears, and may be choosing its next owner Watch the video version here. • 2:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Greetings.

• 2:10Corinne Vien?

Happy January. Happy end of January. We're recording this early.

• 2:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We are. Getting ahead. Well, because we were about to record a Christmas episode and I was like, we are the least festive people in the world.

• 2:22Corinne Vien?

And we're like, oh, my God, we're not wearing sweaters. And we're like, pivot, let's just choose a random encounters in January to record right now.

• 2:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  To record. So.

• 2:29Corinne Vien?

  And I'm excited.

• 2:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Why is the Christmas stuff back up? Well, I tried to, you can't really tell because I moved the tree, the stockings are taken down.

• 2:36Corinne Vien?

  Just the garland.

• 2:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And that just looks spooky like, you know.

• 2:40Corinne Vien?

Okay, so we didn't, I didn't even have to say anything.

• 2:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And you never would have known, but now inside scoop into our secrets, spilling the tea.

• 2:46Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 2:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  And we're drinking tea.

• 2:48Corinne Vien?

And Sabrina's wearing a Dunkin' Donuts outfit.

• 2:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I am. Urban Outfitters did like a collab.

• 2:53Corinne Vien?

  That's from Urban?

• 2:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, with Dunkin'.

• 2:55Corinne Vien?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 2:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I was like, well, I do drink it daily, so why not give them more free marketing?

• 3:02Corinne Vien?

A asshole. But welcome, this is Two Girls, One Ghost.

• 3:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Two Girls, One Ghost. And this is an encounters episode and it is a topic I have wanted to cover for so long because it's getting in touch with my roots, my heritage a bit. And it's also a topic about maybe possibly one of the creepiest areas of the world.

• 3:23Corinne Vien?

  Can you guess?

• 3:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It's not Mexico.

• 3:26Corinne Vien?

We'll give you a second guess.

• 3:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.

• 3:34Corinne Vien?

Asia. Everything in Asia is so haunted.

• 3:37Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Everything.

• 3:38Corinne Vien?

When we get a story from Asia, we're like, oh, here we go. This is gonna be the most terrifying thing. And actually, we have a story from someone who, the story has stuck in my mind so much that I actually think about it at least weekly. And it was, wasn't it from like Cambodia, where the listener, who was like their uncle or their brother, went to a puppet show and then brought back a little puppet?

• 3:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Oh, my God, it's so creepy.

• 3:56Corinne Vien?

Oh, God, I hated that one. But I loved it.

• 3:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Weird, come down this alleyway and.

• 4:00Corinne Vien?

I'll give you a private puppet show and then make you take this puppet home with you.

• 4:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So inappropriate. I'm gonna show you my private puppet show.

• 4:06Corinne Vien?

Anyway, we chose from, Asia's a huge, huge continent.

• 4:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  And I.

• 4:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Started with my roots, my Pakistani roots.

• 4:16Corinne Vien?

  Ooh.

• 4:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's interesting because I grew up very much.

• 4:19Corinne Vien?

  Are you Pakistani?

• 4:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My dad was born in Pakistan. You didn't know that?

• 4:24Corinne Vien?

For some reason, I thought you were like 23 and me said that you were Indian.

• 4:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I'm, I'm a mutt. I'm a, I'm a major mutt.

• 4:29Corinne Vien?

  Mm-hmm.

• 4:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Um, I'm a rescue, I'm a rescue animal.

• 4:33Corinne Vien?

  Please, one rescuer.

• 4:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Uh, please, actually. But no, so my dad was born in Pakistan and immigrated to the States for college. But I really didn't grow up learning much about that side of my family.

• 4:49Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 4:49Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My grandmother is very British. There's like some Scottish influence. Then my grandfather is more Indian. And then there was like the British Indian more, you know, all that stuff, colonization.

• 5:00Corinne Vien?

  Thanks for complicating.

• 5:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yes.

• 5:02Corinne Vien?

There's also apparently incest in my family.

• 5:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What? Where?

• 5:05Corinne Vien?

  Ooh.

• 5:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Um, like deep, far back. I'm not a result of incest. I mean, maybe somewhere, but.

• 5:12Corinne Vien?

Granted, like incest was way more common.

• 5:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

There was like, there's no confirmed account.

• 5:19Corinne Vien?

  It's just your family lore.

• 5:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But there's some family lore that people are like a little bit shifty and shady about the origins because I guess there's a belief that somewhere back, back, back, there was like incest or something.

• 5:32Corinne Vien?

  Oh, shit.

• 5:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And rightfully so, they are ashamed.

• 5:35Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 5:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But we're here to talk about ghost stories. But yeah, so I grew up kind of hearing, I knew that my dad grew up in a haunted place and, but we didn't really talk about his upbringing in Pakistan until more recently because I'm like, Dad, you're haunted. Tell me more. And he's like, yeah, when I was in Pakistan, the gins would fuck with me. So I.

• 5:52Corinne Vien?

And we're still waiting on that episode when your dad comes on and shares his tales.

• 5:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I bring it up to him every time I talk to him.

• 5:58Corinne Vien?

  Hmm.

• 5:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And my dad is great at bullshitting.

• 6:03Corinne Vien?

So he says yes and then he doesn't show up.

• 6:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Right. Theme in my life with him. Okay, but this, so this is now a combination of two things from my upbringing that I learned from my dad, Jin and Pakistan. This is from our listener Zainab, and it is called, "The Day I Spoke to a Jin in Pakistan." "Hello, girls. My name is Zainab, and I am a new listener that has been binge-listening all of your podcasts. And while I have many spooky stories, this is one of the creepiest I've ever endured. I grew up in Kansas, but half of my roots come from Pakistan. My father was born and raised there and remarried when I was young. My stepmother, also Pakistani, brought with her a set of beliefs that lived somewhere between faith and fear."

• 6:46Corinne Vien?

Yeah, that's a healthy place to live.

• 6:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Exactly. "In our Islamic household, there is always talks of jin, beings made from smokeless fire. They are invisible to us, but they walk among us, watching, whispering, sometimes interfering. They can be good, they can be evil, but no matter what, they are always powerful. My stepmom believed without question, and she made sure that I followed her rules. One, don't walk under the trees at night."

• 7:16Corinne Vien?

  I've never heard that.

• 7:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, remember I said my dad used to walk down the street, and that's the street where the jins would, like, they come out of the trees?

• 7:24Corinne Vien?

  Oh, wow.

• 7:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Specifically, I think banyan trees.

• 7:27Corinne Vien?

Oh, my gosh. Banyan trees, so beautiful.

• 7:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Rule number two, don't walk alone at night after 12:00 a.m. Three, always protect yourself from Nazar, the evil eye. And now, I never took it too seriously, until the summer we traveled to my stepmother's village outside of Faisalabad, Pakistan, for a wedding. This village felt very different at night. During the day, beautiful, peaceful, but at night, the air was heavy, the darkness thick enough to feel on your skin. My stepmom kept us close, warning us not to wander. And then, one evening, she told me that our neighbor's youngest daughter, let's call her Jay, had been, in quotes, "unwell."

• 8:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

She said it carefully, like the word itself could invite trouble.

• 8:13Corinne Vien?

  Ew.

• 8:15Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And a few nights later, I learned the truth. I woke to screams, inhuman screams that tore through the night. They started low, like an animal in pain, but then they shifted into a sharp pitch, so sharp it rattled my teeth. And beneath this, there was something else. A second voice, deeper, rolling under the first like thunder in a cave.

• 8:41Corinne Vien?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 8:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My stepmom's eyes were wide when I asked, "What's happening?" My stepmother said, "She's possessed by a djinn," very quietly. So Jay's family had been cursed, she explained. Their cattle dropped dead without warning. The smell of rotting meat would fill their home, seeping from nowhere. Blood started to drip from their ceilings, thick and warm.

• 9:04Corinne Vien?

Holy crap, this is like serious poltergeist activity.

• 9:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And they even took Jay to a healer over and over. Every time they'd go, she would be better for a few days, but it never lasted. So one afternoon, my stepmom decided to visit, and I went with her. We found Jay sitting in the sunlight, her head tilted back, eyes closed, and she didn't even blink when we approached. My stepmom greeted her in Urdu, and Jay didn't respond right away. But all of a sudden, she jerked her head toward me with an unnatural puppet-like motion. "How's your grandmother?" she asked in flawless English. And her voice was wrong. It was not hers, but it was hers, layered, like there were two people speaking at once, one of them buried far below.

• 9:47Corinne Vien?

  Ew.

• 9:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

So no one in Pakistan knew my maternal grandmother was sick. It was not something we had talked about with Jay or her family. And back in the States, my grandmother had been having unexplained seizures, and the doctors still didn't know why. Jay looks at me, smiling, without moving the rest of her face, and she said, "She's going to die of a brain tumor."

• 10:06Corinne Vien?

  Excuse me?

• 10:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  As she spoke.

• 10:08Corinne Vien?

You don't just blurt that out to someone that's so inappropriate.

• 10:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  She possessed by a djinn.

• 10:15Corinne Vien?

To learn this too, like that's not, that's not okay.

• 10:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't think djinn like to follow our rules. I don't think evil entities like to follow our rules.

• 10:22Corinne Vien?

  Are djinn like fully evil?

• 10:24Sabrina Deana-Roga?

No, like they said that there's some good, there's some evil, but they're always powerful. As Jay spoke, her pupils dilated until her eyes looked almost black. A thin trickle of saliva slid from the corner of her mouth and then she repeated the sentence again and again, her tone shifting every time, mocking, sing song, then deep, then growling. And then the final time, she's going to die from a brain tumor. Her voice dropped so low, it vibrated in my chest. I wanted to move to look away, but my body wouldn't obey. It felt like she was holding me there without even touching me. So finally, my stepmom pulled me away, forced me to walk. And just before we stepped out of the gate, I felt her eyes on me again.

• 11:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Turned my head and there she was, Jay, still sitting in the sun, her body slack, but her lips were moving soundlessly like she was whispering. When I strained to listen, I realized she was saying my name over and over.

• 11:21Corinne Vien?

  Oh my god.

• 11:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And the entire time, her eyes never left mine.

• 11:27Corinne Vien?

That is horrifying. What do you even do? Run, run, you run away. You book a flight and you get far, far away.

• 11:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Well, we returned to the States and when we did, my grandmother's condition worsened and tests confirmed she had a brain tumor.

• 11:42Corinne Vien?

  Oh my god.

• 11:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

She didn't die. She underwent treatment for her tumor. She lived many, many more years, years that I really do treasure. I prayed for her constantly, even though I wasn't particularly religious. But maybe those prayers helped keep her alive, or maybe something else did. I never found out what happened to Jay. I am no longer close to my dad and I've never gone looking. I don't blame you. But I still see her in my mind, those blackened eyes, that whispering mouth, that voice that didn't belong to her. And it left me with a truth that I cannot shake. There are things in this world that are unexplainable, that are dangerous and dark, things that can see straight through you and tell you exactly what's coming. I love the podcasts. It keeps my days flowing. I love hearing little meows in the background from Leia. See you on the other side, Zaneb.

• 12:28Corinne Vien?

That's horrifying, terrifying. I'm so sorry about your grandmother.

• 12:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I know.

• 12:33Corinne Vien?

It's also so disturbing to be like told something that you're like, oh, my God, why would like this can't be true. Like, why would you say this? And then to find out it's real, it just makes any opportunity you had to start second guessing whether you truly experienced what you experienced. You can't just excuse it away.

• 12:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  No.

• 12:48Corinne Vien?

It's like, oh, my God, no, I was really experiencing something just so otherworldly, like so beyond.

• 12:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I also just feel so bad for Jay because I'm picturing like this is a neighbor's daughter, like it's a

• 12:58Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 12:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Someone who lives at home. So I don't know how old they are, but I mean, no matter what age you are, if you are possessed, I am sorry, that sounds horrible and terrible. And I hope no one ever endures that, but like, something is taking over her body to the point where there are multiple voices coming through her. She's waking up in the middle of the night and screaming in pain.

• 13:18Corinne Vien?

Yeah. I hate this because I'm also like, okay, well, if this is something that's like such a big part of this culture, you would think that there would be so many remedies for it, so many ways to get rid of it. But it's like, yeah, it's like the ebb and flow of like,

• 13:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 13:35Corinne Vien?

You have the resources, but it doesn't always mean everything works.

• 13:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I mean, the same with us, though, like we deal with demonic possessions and a lot of people will go get blessings or, you know, seek help and it doesn't always work like same. I always think of the Smurl family, always think of the Hinsdale house, like any of these hauntings that have so many similar like patterns to them, where they have priests come and bless the house, they perform exorcisms and then those don't work, but then all of a sudden it just

• 14:02Corinne Vien?

  It just stops.

• 14:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Stops.

• 14:04Corinne Vien?

It's also interesting, I think, like gin, because we have some people on Kefar stories that believe like that they're experiencing gin and stuff. And so it doesn't necessarily just happen regionally to one spot, but it does seem like it really originates more. They're hanging out there under the banyan trees.

• 14:21Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 14:22Corinne Vien?

  Man, oh, man.

• 14:23Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We promised that this one was gonna be, I mean, we knew it would be scary because the place that we're talking about, but I can't promise that the rest of the stories are gonna be uplifting in any way.

• 14:32Corinne Vien?

  No.

• 14:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, well, maybe this one's definitely not uplifting.

• 16:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Maybe this one's definitely not.

• 16:27Corinne Vien?

I'll read this one next. It's less about like a place and more just about someone from this place.

• 16:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Okay.

• 16:33Corinne Vien?

It is titled, "I Think of Someone Dying When Looking at That Person. Now They're Dead."

• 16:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It reminds me of you, to be honest.

• 16:41Corinne Vien?

That's exactly what I thought, too. I was like, oh, I've had this experience.

• 16:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 16:44Corinne Vien?

"Hi, beautiful ghostesses. I'm Rain, just Rain."

• 16:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I love that name. Beautiful.

• 16:49Corinne Vien?

"I'm from the Philippines, and I've been listening to your podcast for quite some time now. And hearing the stories, I felt really validated, as I've always thought that I was weird and no one would understand me. But here I am, feeling badass, thinking that I'm writing to sisters..." Stuff that I never got to have. Oh, thank you.

• 17:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Now you have them. We're your sisters.

• 17:09Corinne Vien?

I've always been open to supernatural stuff since I was a kid. I've always heard stories from my parents about an entity, a goat-like creature, watching over me when I was an infant.

• 17:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Fantastic.

• 17:18Corinne Vien?

Which I found out was bafflement. To me, disappearing in the forest while sleeping for two separate times when I was a child.

• 17:27Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like sleepwalking into the forest and disappearing?

• 17:28Corinne Vien?

  I think so.

• 17:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  That's absolutely horrifying.

• 17:31Corinne Vien?

Shadow people that have comforted me when I got locked out of the house in the dark.

• 17:36Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Kind of nice.

• 17:36Corinne Vien?

You know what's interesting is I feel like there's just like a lot of dark spirits that like become your, your best friend, Rain.

• 17:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It reminds me.

• 17:42Corinne Vien?

It feels like the darkness is actually caring for you.

• 17:44Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Hello darkness, my old friend.

• 17:48Corinne Vien?

A spirit of a motherly ghost that lets me cry in my dreams and vivid dreams that happen in real life. So get cozy, buckle up, because this is gonna be a long ass story.

• 17:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Strapping in.

• 18:00Corinne Vien?

It's not long at all. Maybe it feels really long for Rain to have experienced this. Okay, this happened in late 2024, the first semester of school. It was during creative writing subject and our teacher is the sweetest guy that I've ever met. He's such a green flag and someone who loves his wife, he loves his students. He's known to just be this really happy person and he was particularly close to me as he's a friend of my father's, which is something to keep in mind. I was paying attention to him while he checked our creative essays, judging the grammar and vocabulary, frustrated by misspelled words. And then suddenly a thought crossed my mind. What if a teacher or someone from the school dies? Would we have a break?

• 18:42Corinne Vien?

When I thought that, my ears suddenly rang and I caught myself staring at him. I just shook my head getting out that thought. It seemed like a bad omen. Fast forward a few days. I suddenly got a message from a classmate of mine that a person, a teacher, is dead. Our teacher is dead. That teacher, I think so. I was flabbergasted. I sat up shocked, not believing it. And when I told my father, he scolded me for killing someone who was still alive.

• 19:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But that's not your fault.

• 19:10Corinne Vien?

And asked around if what I was saying was true. And it was, our teacher died due to cardiac arrest when he was sleeping on his wife's lap.

• 19:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, that's so devastating.

• 19:21Corinne Vien?

He was expected to just live a long, healthy, happy life.

• 19:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't think that it's Rain thinking it into existence. I feel like Rain is picking up on

• 19:31Corinne Vien?

Something that was about to happen.

• 19:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 19:33Corinne Vien?

  The energy of it.

• 19:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, just knew.

• 19:35Corinne Vien?

It's like not to be super dark, but it's like when ten or eleven months before someone from my high school died, I called my mom bawling, saying someone's gonna die right here on the road. And it was like the exact spot the car accident happened.

• 19:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 19:49Corinne Vien?

I was assigned to buy flowers for his wake. I made up an excuse to not go. I isolated myself from everyone as this guilt just washed over me. It was a sudden death that no one expected but me. And I never told a soul about this until months after he had passed. I told only my trusted friends, the friends who knew about my ability. Whenever I'm in school alone, I feel like I can still hear his laughter. And when I do, I whisper in the air, sending my warm regards, hoping that he's somewhere nice and happy wherever he is. To this day, I still feel really sorry, though I do know that his death was a natural occurrence, but I just really hated the feeling of sensing that someone close to me was near to their expiration.

• 20:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, that's unsettling, because like, especially for that to be the first time it happens, and if it happens again, like what can you can't even really do anything.

• 20:39Corinne Vien?

I know. Keep doing what you're doing. As you offer a safe space for weird people like me, see you on the other side, Rain.

• 20:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Wow. Well, I'm sorry. And I I understand why that's so isolating.

• 20:51Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 20:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Because you don't want to believe that you have that ability.

• 20:55Corinne Vien?

Right. But I also like I I do understand in a sense why Rain's dad was like upset, because I do, just from the stories that we've heard, it feels like the Philippines is just like, it is so haunted. There's so much that happens. There's such a strong belief in the paranormal that I can see, like, I feel like here, you might say that to someone and they'd be like, like, what are you talking about?

• 21:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Pish posh.

• 21:16Corinne Vien?

Pish posh. But there, it's like, that totally could could happen.

• 21:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Belief in the other side is so strong and ingrained in their culture. Yeah.

• 21:28Corinne Vien?

But Rain, you did not kill that man.

• 21:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  No, you did not.

• 21:31Corinne Vien?

But I'm sorry that you had to know that it was happening before it happened and then have go through that, these emotions.

• 21:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm curious, though, if that's happened since then, because it sounds like you're just picking up on.

• 21:42Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 21:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Something in the universe. Um, another thing that's kind of ingrained and scary in the Philippines is um, mimics.

• 21:50Corinne Vien?

  Hmm.

• 21:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And this is a story from our listener Iris. What are they just called mimics? Hi Corinne and Sabrina, my name is Iris and I have a very creepy story about my aunt's old house back in the Philippines. I currently live in the States, so the stories I'm about to share to you are the experiences that my youngest aunt and her family have shared with me when I visited them. By the time I went back home, they had already moved out of that house, thank God. So for a little backstory, my maternal side of my family lives in the Philippines, specifically the island of Cebu. My aunt and uncle decided to move from my hometown to the city so that my cousin, who was in elementary school at the time, would be able to go to this English private school. They moved into a

• 22:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

house which was a part of a gated neighborhood with lots of young mango trees planted in the front yard. In the Philippines, there's a heavy belief that nature, trees, stones, anthills, etc., house spirits and other creatures like duende, goblins and elves, or capra, tall AF giant horse-like beings that smoke a pipe in the trees, and mononongal.

• 22:57Corinne Vien?

I hate the mononongal so much.

• 22:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We've done a whole episode on the mononongal, but it is a lady that separates half of her body and flies out in the night looking for victims. Since it was a newly developed neighborhood, they felt safe. It wasn't until they fully moved in, and it was a couple of months later on, that they started to notice something. It was a couple little things they could easily pass on as misplacement or forgetfulness. But a couple months later, they started noticing more alarming incidents, mostly when they were alone. For example, my uncle does manuscript work for companies that are located out of the country, and while he was apparently in his study area, he had a full-blown conversation with my little cousin about her day. She was telling him about what she was doing at school, what current topics she was studying, and my uncle

• 23:43Sabrina Deana-Roga?

asked her question after question, she would respond, vice versa. It was a full-on conversation, and it wasn't until 20-ish minutes in that he noticed my cousin all of a sudden went really quiet. When he turned, she was nowhere to be found.

• 23:56Corinne Vien?

  Oh my God.

• 23:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

He thought she went outside of the room, so he opened the door to look for her and nothing. My cousin wasn't there. At first, he thought nothing of it. He walked downstairs expecting my cousin to be-

• 24:07Corinne Vien?

Weren't they having a conversation now? Like, that's for her to just disappear?

• 24:11Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't know how old she was, like, the cousin was. Maybe she had to, like, go pee, you know? There's probably so many things that he was trying to write it off as. He really thought nothing of it at first. He walked down the stairs expecting my cousin to be at least in the living room or the kitchen or bedroom, because my baby cousin slept in the same room as her parents. But she wasn't there. As he starts to panic, my aunt and baby cousin walk in the front door. You would think, oh, she just went outside. But no, my aunt had just picked her up from school and they were just getting home.

• 24:41Corinne Vien?

Are you kidding me? Who was he talking to that whole time?

• 24:45Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Which means whoever my uncle had a full-blown conversation with was definitely not my cousin.

• 24:52Corinne Vien?

  Oh, I hate that.

• 24:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Twenty minutes.

• 24:54Corinne Vien?

  That's such a long time. That's terrifying.

• 24:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Another time in that house-

• 24:58Corinne Vien?

Holy shit. I'd be, like, scared of my child then, you know? Like, you're like, am I talking to you or am I talking to someone else now?

• 25:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Any future conversation?

• 25:04Corinne Vien?

Yeah, you're like, is it, like, how do I test this?

• 25:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Another time in that house, my other aunt and uncle, I'll call them Lex and Leroy, decided to visit the aunt and uncle who lived there and stayed a whole week. Their trip was great until the end. My uncle Leroy was apparently showering when he heard the door open. He thought my aunt Lex was coming in, so he continues to shower. He starts having a casual conversation with Lex about what their plans were for the rest of the days before they had to leave. You know, regular conversation between two adults about vacation. It wasn't until the end of his shower that he noticed Lex got really quiet. He moved the shower curtain over to see if my aunt was okay, only to find that he was alone in there. My aunt was nowhere to be seen. Weirded out, he continued with his shower, wrapped up, and went outside of the bedroom

• 25:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

to find my aunt sitting on the bed watching TV. So he thought maybe she just left mid-conversation, so he was a little perplexed and he asked if she was angry at him, to which my aunt replied that she had no idea what he was talking about.

• 26:02Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 26:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And he was like, "We were just talking and then you walked out."

• 26:06Corinne Vien?

Wow, this poor guy, this keeps happening.

• 26:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  This is a different uncle.

• 26:08Corinne Vien?

Oh, oh, oh, oh. It's like he cannot have a conversation.

• 26:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Same type of haunting in the same house.

• 26:14Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 26:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Happening to the uncles.

• 26:16Corinne Vien?

  All the men.

• 26:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

He was asking why she left mid-conversation. And she's like, what do you mean? I wasn't even in the bathroom. She just got back from the kitchen. How could they have been mid-conversation?

• 26:24Corinne Vien?

It's like so beyond just feeling the presence of someone and just assuming that they're in the bathroom with you. Like they're, it's like a back and forth conversation.

• 26:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

My uncle was puzzled because he swore that they were talking about their plans and she was even responding to his questions and even made little jokes. But my aunt said, nope, I was not in the bathroom at all. So again, who was my other uncle talking to? I could truly compile a folder of events that happened in that house alone. But those are two that stuck out to me the most just because of how long those conversations were. And the fact that whoever they were talking to could easily mimic someone's voice. And side fact, whoever was mimicking them could easily mimic anyone's laugh. And has taken a liking to imitating my little cousin's laugh.

• 27:08Corinne Vien?

  Eee.

• 27:09Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Stay safe and stay spooky, girls are the best, Iris.

• 27:12Corinne Vien?

Oh, my gosh. This is like a very powerful mimic. It's like, what do you even do about this?

• 27:18Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And it's not like it's having a creepy conversation that's like starting fights between couples. It's just normal.

• 27:25Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 27:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And then it's almost like when the real person is about to come back, that's when they disappear. Because the first uncle, the cousin disappeared and then like a minute later, the cousin and aunt walked into the house. And then with Uncle Leroy, it almost seems like when the aunt came back from the kitchen into the bedroom is when the aunt in the bathroom disappeared.

• 27:45Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 27:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I hate it.

• 27:47Corinne Vien?

It's for way too long. Like, it's not just like a two-minute conversation.

• 27:50Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It reminds me of, um.

• 27:52Corinne Vien?

It's like, what do you even, you're switching topics at that point.

• 27:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  For sure.

• 27:55Corinne Vien?

  You're all over the place.

• 27:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You're making full-on plans. It reminds me of, uh, Ghost in the Burbs.

• 28:00Corinne Vien?

Oh, my God, I miss Ghost in the Burbs.

• 28:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I think she's been coming out with more.

• 28:04Corinne Vien?

Is she? Oh, my gosh, that was such a good podcast. I was so invested.

• 28:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Same. Go check that out if you haven't already.

• 28:10Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 29:14Corinne Vien?

What's next? I have a good story from Vietnam. Hi spooky pukies, just an average lurker from the UK. And I love what you guys do. You get me through the rough times in the week. So please keep doing what you're doing. Okay, this story isn't very long, but it is one from when I was about eight years old. This was 21 years ago. My mother had booked a trip for our family to go to Vietnam to see family. When we got there, somewhere in the north, we were stuck at home, going nowhere for the duration of the summer holidays. We were there July through September. Nice long trip. That is really nice. We hardly knew the language. We were told to stay home at our grandparents' place when my mother would run out for errands. And safe to say, this was an extremely boring summer.

• 29:58Corinne Vien?

The only thing that I could do was sleep or watch TV. It was more so frustrating that my mom had brought along our two cousins who tormented me when they got bored. I'm so sorry. They would also talk in Vietnamese, so I couldn't understand what they were plotting. I wasn't allowed to leave the house unless escorted by an adult to go to church, which was across the road from our grandparents' house. The church was very tall and it attracted a lot of birds into the rafters chirping so loudly that you could actually hear them all the way from my grandparents' house. The church also had a surrounding moat with live fish that the priest would feed regularly. I love that. It's a little like quipon. Yeah. One day, the church sermon was held in the afternoon. So we got dressed in our best as we normally do and we made our way over.

• 30:42Corinne Vien?

I decided to bring my hat as my mother didn't like it when I was in the sun. She wanted me to keep my pale complexion because of the beauty standards of the East. This time, the sermon was super long. It spanned for hours. Of course, me being only eight at the time, this might have not actually been hours, but it felt really long. I get that. There was no air conditioning, only little fans dotted around the church. And by the time it was over, the sun had gone down and we were all exhausted from the time and from the heat. Trying to get home as soon as possible, I doused myself in cold water. I remembered, oh my gosh, I forgot my hat. So I went back to go get it. And when I went back, there was a woman sobbing, sitting alone by my hat.

• 31:26Corinne Vien?

Long, black hair, not unusual, as we all had long, black hair. And wearing a white, oh, I'm gonna mispronounce this, au day. Again, nothing out of the ordinary for where we were. I nodded my head respectfully to acknowledge her. I grabbed my hat and then I went to leave. I remember it being eerily quiet and I remember feeling really cold. She had said something to me, but I didn't understand the language, so I just kept walking. But then she said it again, louder, and I heard her say, "Don't go." Crying louder and louder. Oh, so sad. I went to turn around to ask her if she was okay when my cousin grabbed me by the wrist and asked me why I was taking so long. I didn't know how to respond because they asked me in Vietnamese. And then she said quickly, "Across the bridge, you need to cross the bridge."

• 32:11Corinne Vien?

What? Flustered, she pushed me across it and then ran to the house before leaving me behind. When I turned back around, the church was empty. But the birds were chirping loudly again. The air around me felt sweltering.

• 32:26Sabrina Deana-Roga?

We've heard of this. Doesn't matter where you are in the world.

• 32:29Corinne Vien?

Nope. When I did go back to the house, my mom asked me why I'd taken so long. And she asked me this in English. So I told her, I love how it's like what I was asked and understood. What I was asked and didn't understand. I told her that I was getting my hat and my cousin could vouch for me. But my cousin looked at me confused and said that she wasn't anywhere near the church. She didn't go to church that day. She couldn't be bothered. I didn't go anywhere alone near that church.

• 32:54Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Wait, the cousin didn't go?

• 32:56Corinne Vien?

  The cousin who like

• 32:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Who would push her across the bridge?

• 32:58Corinne Vien?

Get across the bridge, get across, and then sprinted away and disappeared. Was never there.

• 33:02Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Okay, but wasn't this one of the cousins that like liked to fuck with her?

• 33:04Corinne Vien?

  True.

• 33:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I mean, either way, there's something paranormal that happened.

• 33:07Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 33:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But huh.

• 33:08Corinne Vien?

After that incident, I didn't tell anyone about it. My cousin denied ever being near that place. And it wasn't like anything happened anyway, so I just left it alone. But it was inevitable that I would have to go back into that church because I had to pick something up for my auntie's wedding. I assumed that the wedding was what my mom was so busy with every single day during that summer holiday. But that was only half of it. I was only told years later what my mom had planned for me. First, I went back into that church. It was the middle of the day and I assumed evil spirits wouldn't be able to do anything in broad daylight. So I went there, got what I needed, and then I left. I felt the same coldness from that night, but I ignored it, thinking, okay, well, maybe it's just a cold breeze. Maybe, or maybe it's something much more sinister.

• 33:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Hmm.

• 33:52Corinne Vien?

However, I started to get feverish and then suddenly fell ill. I remember coming in and out of consciousness, hearing my mother say that I couldn't meet them like this. I assumed it was my aunt's fiance's family, and then I just went back to sleep. On the night the fever was at its worst, I had the most horrific dream. The woman that had been crying was there.

• 34:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh.

• 34:13Corinne Vien?

She told me, don't go with them. I told her, I don't know who she is. I ran over to my mother and the woman fell to her knees and wailed screaming, "Don't go with them, don't go with them," over and over. How horrifying. The dream continued to where I was taken to a man who I didn't know and left there by my mother. Oh, that's so sad. I know this is a dream, but like. I know. The woman grabbed me and tried to get me out, but they caught her and they butchered her in front of my eyes, hanging her body on a hook like a pig and told me that I was never ever leaving unless I wanted this same thing to happen to me. What the actual.

• 34:58Corinne Vien?

Right. I woke up soaked in a cold sweat and crying because this felt too real. And I remembered my aunt, the one who was going to get married, comforting me and telling me that I was going to be okay. I didn't tell her about the dream. I just told her that I had a really bad dream. And so she asked me if I could spend time with her and her fiance that afternoon. I asked her. Don't go with them. Don't go with them. It reminds me of the, um, of Sarah Paulson. What is she like scream cry in that one American Horror Story season where it's like, oh my gosh, wait, this is gonna bother me. Oh, he's escaping, the killer is escaping. What is this? What season? Oh my gosh. It's American Horror Story asylum. I'm gonna play it. Sorry.

• 35:42Speaker 04

You're escaping. The killer is escaping. Help me.

• 35:51Corinne Vien?

I love that that stuck with you. Yeah. Well, cause it's a meme. Yeah. So my aunt asked if I should spend time with her and her fiance that afternoon. I asked her if I should ask my mother, as she didn't really like me going anywhere without her knowing, but my aunt said it was okay. She would deal with it when we got back home. So we had fun. We went shopping. We had food together. And at some point I must have fallen asleep and they took me home. I remember waking up to my mother screaming at my aunt for taking me out of the house. My aunt must have covered my ears and took me to bed because all I heard was some muffled screams after that. The wedding was wonderful and I spoke to no one about this dream until now. It's not like anyone would believe me anyway, and I couldn't really make anything of it all at the time.

• 36:31Corinne Vien?

Years later, I found out that my mother had arranged for someone to come and get me that very night. She was trying to find me a husband.

• 36:41Corinne Vien?

Someone who would pay a handsome dowry for eight-year-old little me.

• 36:46Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Eight years old.

• 36:47Corinne Vien?

Who didn't know the language. I didn't know where we were. And then I kind of put two and two together because she did again when I was 19. Whether it was a vivid imagination or ghosts warning me and trying to protect me, I couldn't say. All I know is I won't ever be going back to that place, especially on my own. If you got through all of that, thank you so much for reading. It feels like a huge weight off my shoulders after so many years of telling nobody about this story.

• 37:12Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah, that's absolutely horrifying.

• 37:13Corinne Vien?

Love and blessings to all the spooky pukies from Cindy. But we have an update.

• 37:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  From Cindy?

• 37:20Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 37:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Did Cindy go back?

• 37:22Corinne Vien?

Hello again. The lovely ghost that says Corinne and Sabrina. I never thought that I would have a part two to this story as I don't remember telling anyone about it when I was younger, nor did I think anyone would believe me, but here it goes. After writing to you guys, I told my dad about it because I thought maybe as a partial skeptic, it wouldn't matter. I've never had an experience since that time and thought nothing of it when regarding the story and telling him about it last week. That was when he told me that something did happen to me, but it was when I came home from that holiday. My dad did not come with us on that holiday as he had work, according to my mom. So when I had come back to the UK, I had told him about that woman. However, he didn't believe me.

• 38:02Corinne Vien?

I then told him in the next few days before school started that the woman was getting closer to me in the dream and I was really scared.

• 38:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And Cindy doesn't remember that part of it?

• 38:11Corinne Vien?

Uh-uh. He told me it was just a dream and just to ignore it. And that's when I told him that she would crawl after me and grab my leg and drag me back down with her. He told me that nothing in the dreams could hurt me. He told me not to eat any more sweets. I think that maybe it was just eating candy before bed, causing these weird nightmares.

• 38:28Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Sure.

• 38:28Corinne Vien?

And that was when something happened to me that he could not ignore.

• 38:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  What happened?

• 38:33Corinne Vien?

A massive bulging started to form on my thigh where I had told him that she was grabbing. It looked like a large blister, but was solid to the touch and only grew larger the more and more we tried to ignore it.

• 38:48Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What the heck? It's like pay attention to me.

• 38:50Corinne Vien?

Yeah. He said I actually started to limp due to its size.

• 38:55Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Oh my God, that's so, that's horrible.

• 38:57Corinne Vien?

My mom brought me to the doctors and they said that it was just a blister and that it would eventually go away.

• 39:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But a blister from what?

• 39:04Corinne Vien?

She told my dad and was worried that the devil in my dreams would disfigure me if I didn't go to church. And my dad told her to listen to the doctors and that I would be fine. No medicine, no surgery, just left it alone. Then one morning, as my dad was getting ready for work, he heard someone running down the hall and then a loud bang. So they just thrown themselves against his bedroom door. He opened it to find me curled up on the floor crying that the ghost had gotten me. The blister had popped.

• 39:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Oh, my God.

• 39:34Corinne Vien?

A large gaping wound resembling a fingernail scratch down my skin.

• 39:40Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  This is taking.

• 39:41Corinne Vien?

This is the wildest part two.

• 39:42Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Turn that I've never expected.

• 39:45Corinne Vien?

My dad called out to my mom and she asked what happened. According to my dad, I kept screaming, the ghost got me, the ghost got me. And he could see right through to my thigh bone. But there was no blood. He wanted to take me to the hospital, but my mom refused. So they kept me home for two weeks, telling the school that I was suffering from the flu.

• 40:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Two weeks.

• 40:07Corinne Vien?

While my mom prayed over my body the whole time. I don't remember this part at all.

• 40:13Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Well, yeah, because it's traumatic.

• 40:14Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 40:14Sabrina Deana-Roga?

You, I would block that out as well.

• 40:17Corinne Vien?

I thought that maybe when I was younger, I'd been bitten by a dog and that's where I got this scar.

• 40:20Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  You still have the scar.

• 40:21Corinne Vien?

But this explains why there's an indentation on my thigh. The scar is now covered by a tattoo. And I've long since forgotten about it until today.

• 40:31Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Shut.

• 40:32Corinne Vien?

  With love, Cindy.

• 40:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  With horror, Cindy.

• 40:36Corinne Vien?

Horror. Oh, my gosh. This is like, I'm just flabbergasted. Like the fact that Cindy's like, no one will believe me. Like I'm, this feels so good to finally tell you guys my story. And then being like, well, maybe I can tell my dad now that I've written into the podcast.

• 40:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  All of this coming through.

• 40:48Corinne Vien?

Yeah. And then her dad being like, wait, do you not remember what happened after that?

• 40:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm also just so confused by like what this haunting is, what the intention was, what did it want?

• 40:59Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 40:59Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Does anyone know? Anyone?

• 41:01Corinne Vien?

It's right. It's so confusing because it almost seems like the, this one, when they were in the church or like at her grandmother's house or whatever, that like, don't go with them, don't go with them. It seems like she was trying to like. Worn her and save her and like mourn a little eight year old.

• 41:17Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Right.

• 41:17Corinne Vien?

Being sold away to another family and like the horrors that would persist with that. But then the fact that she's now like hunting her in her dreams. Physically harming her, gashing her leg open, crawling after her, scraping her leg open down to the bone.

• 41:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It reminds me of The Grudge.

• 41:35Corinne Vien?

Yeah. Also, I think your mom needs to believe in medicine a little bit more.

• 41:39Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, I have some questions, but it's not my place to judge and but.

• 41:43Corinne Vien?

But also like go to the hospital if your leg's being open like that, like you could be.

• 41:47Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  If you're seeing your bone.

• 41:49Corinne Vien?

Septus and all that. Yeah, it's just terrible.

• 41:52Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Glad you're okay.

• 41:52Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 41:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And I'm glad that nothing has happened like that since.

• 41:56Corinne Vien?

  Holy shitballs.

• 41:57Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah, that was a wild follow up email.

• 42:01Corinne Vien?

  That's terrifying. Um, okay.

• 42:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

There's no transition. Next story. This is from our listener, Aaliyah, and it is called My Family Ghost. And there's two stories, but Aaliyah says, hi there. I'm a new listener and absolutely loving the stories you've been sharing. I wanted to contribute a couple of eerie tales from my family's experiences in Malaysia. These are especially close to my heart as I involve my father and in some way myself as well. Story one, the spirit in the sketchbook.

• 42:31Corinne Vien?

  Ooh.

• 42:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

In Malaysia, we are a melting pot of cultures and religions, Malay, Chinese, Indian and more, and spiritual beliefs that often weave deeply into our lives. My father comes from a Malay Muslim background and what I'm about to share begins long before I was ever born. My grandfather, like many from older generations, was the guardian of a family spirit, a supernatural being inherited from his own father. These spirits were believed to protect the family and when my dad left for boarding school in Australia, my grandfather gifted him the spirit for protection.

• 43:05Corinne Vien?

  Oh, wow. That's so interesting.

• 43:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

While at school, my dad was unfortunately bullied quite badly, largely because of racial differences. Struggling to cope, he started communicating with the spirit in a very unique way, through drawings. He is an incredible artist and he would sketch in this comic style format as a way to speak with the spirit. He never really fully explained how it responded or how they communicated, but it was very real, their connection, and it was through the art. One day, after being beaten up again, my father, out of desperation and rage, cut his arm and used his own blood to draw in his sketchbook. And that night, something terrifying happened. The spirit went after the boy who had hurt him.

• 43:52Corinne Vien?

Also, just like your dad's intuition to like use his own blood in this sort of sketch. Like, I wouldn't think to do that.

• 43:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

But this is wild. My father said the next morning, he woke up to find out that something broke the boy's bones in the night, left him bleeding and nearly killed him. He instantly knew it was his spirit, like the guide. Horrified by what he had unleashed, my dad quickly sketched a command for the spirit to stop, and it obeyed. And from that day forward, he vowed to never summon it again. But after that, the spirit-

• 44:24Corinne Vien?

But can't you summon it for good? Like, what if it has no gauge in what it's good or bad? It just does what it thinks you want.

• 44:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 44:32Corinne Vien?

  Yeah, to protect you.

• 44:33Sabrina Deana-Roga?

The spirit lingered after that. And when I was a baby, my father noticed that I would often giggle to myself. At first, he thought nothing of it, but as I grew into a toddler, I began talking and playing with someone that no one else could see. My dad had a strange feeling, so he asked, "Who are you talking to?" And I replied, "I'm playing with the boy." He then asked, "Is the boy bald?" And I said, "Yes." He knew instantly that this was the same spirit, because my father had seen it once before. It was a boy about 10 years old, bald with tan skin. Not wanting it around me, he grabbed his old sketchbook, went deep into the jungle behind our home, and began to draw again. He told the spirit it was no longer welcome,

• 45:16Sabrina Deana-Roga?

said some prayers, and burned the drawings that he used to summon it. It left, for the most part, but every now and then it does come back. It's so interesting, though, because it's like-

• 45:25Corinne Vien?

Yeah, it does feel like it's attached to the whole family. So it's like, well, if you don't want me around, they won't be around as much.

• 45:30Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  But I'm gonna always watch.

• 45:31Corinne Vien?

You can't get rid of me.

• 45:32Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Like, I'm a part of you.

• 45:34Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 45:34Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Yeah. Wow. Story number two is called "The Dagger That Comes and Goes." This next part happened more recently, and it's about that same spirit. You see, for a spirit like this to remain anchored, it needs a physical object, a home. For my father, that object was a karis, a traditional asymmetrical dagger common in the melee culture. When the spirit left, this karis would disappear too. I provided a picture of an example of the karis to get a better understanding of how it looks, so. Thanks for that.

• 46:05Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Which I feel like we've read stories like this before.

• 46:07Corinne Vien?

  Yeah.

• 46:07Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Where spirits attached to like a dagger of some kind. Okay, so fast forward to my cousin's wedding day. He approached my dad and thanked him for lending the karis to wear with his traditional outfit. My father was confused. He hadn't seen this dagger in years and definitely had not given it to anyone. So when he asked my cousin where he got it, my cousin replied, "You came to my house and gave it to me."

• 46:31Corinne Vien?

Shut the fuck up. That is so scary. Why are there so many mimics in Asia?

• 46:38Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I don't know. Before my dad could say anything more, the bride called my cousin away. After the wedding, they went to retrieve the dagger, but it was gone. They searched the entire room, but it had vanished without a trace. And to this day, we do not know-

• 46:50Corinne Vien?

The dagger only comes back and finds you when you need it most.

• 46:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  It's very-

• 46:54Corinne Vien?

  Brotherhood of the traveling dagger.

• 46:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 46:58Sabrina Deana-Roga?

It's very, I was like, what's the sword? The Gryffindor sword? To this day, we don't know where it went, and occasionally my dad will check the old storage spot where my grandmother used to keep it. Sometimes it's there. Other times, it's gone.

• 47:11Corinne Vien?

I love this. It's got its own mind. It's got its own agenda. It's just like, well, here's my home base. Who knows?

• 47:19Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Is there another family that has the same karis?

• 47:20Corinne Vien?

Is her dad always the one that's delivering it? Like, does it always pretend to be him?

• 47:25Sabrina Deana-Roga?

Wild. We considered reaching out to a religious scholar or spiritual expert, someone who truly understands how to sever these kinds of bonds, but my dad never did. My dad said that when he passes, he believes the spirit will choose a new owner from among his children. He told me once that it will pick the one he likes the most. I have a younger brother and a stepsister, but the spirit has never come in contact with them. It has only ever interacted with me.

• 47:50Corinne Vien?

  Well, shit.

• 47:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And that is just how the email ends.

• 47:53Corinne Vien?

  Okay.

• 47:53Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Literally just like that.

• 47:54Corinne Vien?

I don't think that this is such a bad thing.

• 47:56Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  I don't either.

• 47:57Corinne Vien?

Like, I know it did a really bad thing, but I think it did that thing on your behalf and you're in control.

• 48:03Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 48:03Corinne Vien?

Yeah, like, yeah, like you as in.

• 48:06Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Protective.

• 48:07Corinne Vien?

  Whoever has the.

• 48:08Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Yeah.

• 48:08Corinne Vien?

  The spirit attached.

• 48:10Sabrina Deana-Roga?

What does that remind me of? I feel like there's a movie. Oh, what's the show? Same person who did I'm Not Okay. There's a show on Netflix. It's kind of similar to Carrie, but maybe it is I'm Not Okay. But basically, it's about a girl who like has like, she's going through high school, middle school, high school puberty and like her anger manifests as something paranormal.

• 48:35Corinne Vien?

  Hmm.

• 48:35Sabrina Deana-Roga?

And it kind of takes over, has a mind of its own.

• 48:38Corinne Vien?

Yeah, I feel like you could harness the spirit for good. And like, if you're really clear with how you want it to enact revenge too, where it's like, you know, right the wrongs, but like beating a child to death.

• 48:51Sabrina Deana-Roga?

  Near death.

• 48:51Corinne Vien?

Near death is definitely not it, but like appearing at the edge of their bed and saying, never mess with so and so again. Like, that is so frightening. Like, that does the trick.

• 49:00Sabrina Deana-Roga?

I'm not okay with this is the show on Netflix. She's dealing with the complexities of high school, family and her sexuality while dealing with new superpowers. Oh, it's based on a graphic novel. Interesting. Interesting.
