• 0:00Matt Farah?

What's up everybody, welcome to the Smoking Tire Podcast. Today's episode is brought to you by Off the Record. The reason we keep talking about these folks is because they are amazing. They're here for me, they're here for you. What Off the Record does is, they sit there quietly, waiting for you to get pulled over for a moving violation. And when you do, you don't plead guilty, you get off the record. You get off the record. You go to offtherecord.com/tst. You tell them a little bit about your ticket, send the copy of the ticket. They then assign an attorney in the jurisdiction where you got pulled over to fight that ticket. That could mean negotiating with the prosecutor, it could mean going to trial. You don't have to be there, they're there, you're chilling at home.

• 0:45Matt Farah?

You have sent a representative. And if Off the Record doesn't get those points from that violation off your record, or keep them off your record, you don't have to pay. Their service is very reasonably priced, but if you go to offtherecord.com/tst, you will get 10% off all legal services that you book through Off the Record. If you get pulled over for a little one, or a very, very big one, don't plead guilty, get off the record, offtherecord.com/tst. We love them. Alright folks, on this episode of the Smoking Tire, Zach and I talk about, this summer might get pricey because my Lamborghini engine is done, and John Tamerian from Curated made

• 1:29Matt Farah?

an unbelievable call about it. Plus, the Myers Mansx begins build in Costa Mesa, and we talk about what to expect there. And, the legend of my trash can Mac, that almost died, but lives to fight another day. Plus, a bunch of awesome questions from our TST patrons, whom you can join at patreon.com/the Smoking Tire Podcast. And speaking of which, let's get to it. It's Wednesday, sure doesn't feel like it. Fucking Labor Day or Memorial Day really threw some shit up, didn't it?

• 2:08Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 2:09Matt Farah?

  Fucked some shit up.

• 2:10Speaker 01

  Curveball.

• 2:11Matt Farah?

I mean exploding desks, all this craziness.

• 2:14Speaker 01

Yeah, you had a culture guys.

• 2:15Matt Farah?

I started looking into the exploding desk a little more. Eh, relatively common occurrence it turns out.

• 2:20Speaker 01

  Really? Just glass desks?

• 2:21Matt Farah?

  Exploding tempered glass, yeah. Yeah.

• 2:24Speaker 01

Oh, just after a certain amount of time?

• 2:25Matt Farah?

No, like just shitty manufacturing, just like cheap, you know, like the, the whatever the material they use. It's like gets a contaminant in it, which, you know, over time it expands and eventually the thing just like pops.

• 2:38Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 2:39Matt Farah?

Yeah, cause it's like bonded, you know, whatever glass tempered. Um, yeah, it happens. Lot, it turns out.

• 2:46Speaker 01

  So your next desk?

• 2:47Matt Farah?

Like it happens a lot in the same way that like we say, um, everybody's got a nine eleven. Like that, if you're in-

• 2:55Speaker 01

  We don't see that.

• 2:56Matt Farah?

No, I mean, but like, but like if you're in that world, right?

• 3:00Speaker 01

So in the, in the office furniture world?

• 3:02Matt Farah?

If you're, if you're in a, yeah, I mean, if you're a glazier, you know, if you, if you're someone who fixes broken glass, you get calls all the time about people's windows exploding randomly, right?

• 3:13Speaker 01

You're like, oh, let me guess, tempered?

• 3:15Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 3:16Speaker 01

  Wayfair, always.

• 3:17Matt Farah?

But if you, uh, you know, are not as, uh, let's just say cultured when it comes to glass, you might have, be like, fuck. You might, that might make you believe in God. Let me just say that.

• 3:28Speaker 01

That, that's some Jesus on toast stuff, for sure.

• 3:31Matt Farah?

If that shit happened in the thirties, you are, you believe in God, for sure. For sure. It made me believe in ghosts.

• 3:37Speaker 01

  Well, the next desk-

• 3:38Matt Farah?

  I was fucking high.

• 3:39Speaker 01

Is this gonna be metal, wood, open?

• 3:42Matt Farah?

The replacement desk? Oh, the replacement desk has been ordered. Yes, it's gonna be wood.

• 3:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:46Matt Farah?

It's going to have built in cable management because five years we couldn't fucking get Eric's cable management together straight.

• 3:54Speaker 01

Does it have a closed wall on the front?

• 3:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 3:57Speaker 01

Yeah, I think that's key. The floating desk thing is very like, uh, front of house salon.

• 4:02Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 4:03Speaker 01

They, they want like an open, it was very popular in eighties movies and nineties to have like, ooh, glass top, it's open and airy.

• 4:08Matt Farah?

You can't take your dick out is really a problem. And so now with the new modesty desk.

• 4:12Speaker 01

  The new Weinstein model.

• 4:15Matt Farah?

We also put a button in there and don't ask what it does.

• 4:18Speaker 01

Dude, the new Clarkson's Farm is pretty good, but there's a moment where he makes a joke about Harvey Weinstein and this female farmer that had to come help him just looks at him, she's like 26 and she goes, who's that? And she, she has no idea, which is good, but he, but Clarkson is like aghast since she didn't know this huge case.

• 4:34Matt Farah?

Well, is that a, yeah, does she not know because she's young, English, or a farmer? Which of the three reasons, or is it?

• 4:41Speaker 01

  I think young and English.

• 4:42Matt Farah?

  Okay.

• 4:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:43Matt Farah?

Like, like Caleb didn't know like anything that wasn't farming for like a long time.

• 4:49Speaker 01

She's, she's on TikTok and stuff, so she's more in pop culture, but she's not in American lawsuits against.

• 4:55Matt Farah?

It's different country, like, yeah, it's a different country. You get a pass on not knowing who a, uh, you know, like a, like a corporate celebrity criminal is, you know?

• 5:04Speaker 01

  Very true.

• 5:05Matt Farah?

Yeah. Like she probably knows that, you know, like Brad Pitt wasn't a very good dad, you know? But, but not who Harvey Weinstein is. That's okay. She can have a pass on that.

• 5:14Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 5:15Matt Farah?

Yeah. I bet there's lots of English creeps that you and I don't know about specifically.

• 5:20Speaker 01

  Jimmy Savile.

• 5:21Matt Farah?

Well, that's one. Okay. That's who else? Give me three more right now. Like, fuck it, we can't do that.

• 5:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's true.

• 5:28Matt Farah?

Yeah, we're, we're throwing stones and glass houses over here in America.

• 5:31Speaker 01

Yeah. No, no, I understand why she didn't know. I just, it came to mind because of the Weinstein desk model.

• 5:36Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah. Um, new desk, new chair for Eric and a new computer suckered me into a new computer, which is crazy because we're, we're, the computer that we are retiring. I have to tell, I'm gonna tell the like, the, I should write a fucking like obituary for it on Instagram like it's a cat. Um, this computer, this is one of the trash can Macs, two, late 2013 or 2014, uh, Mac Pro.

• 6:04Speaker 01

  It's a black cylinder.

• 6:05Matt Farah?

  Yeah, an obelisk almost.

• 6:08Speaker 01

Of like, almost 12 inches tall probably. It's quite big.

• 6:10Matt Farah?

It's, it's like, yeah, it's a big fucking, giant ass can of folders. Yeah. Um, honestly, I, in my opinion, one of the best designed consumer products of all time. And I bought it at the, when I started getting into doing like four videos a week with the one takes and whatever the fucking computer I had before this. It, doing that just ate that computer. And I spent in, I looked it up. I went and looked at my, my receipts, my purchase history. Two, twenty thirteen, I spent eleven thousand eight hundred dollars on that computer. And it was like, even at the, at the time, I was like, I can't believe I'm doing this.

• 6:53Matt Farah?

Um, not, not the monitors and shit. No, just the can. The can. I was there, I just didn't remember it cost that much. Yeah, it was eleven thousand eight hundred dollars. And so, so, but fucking holy mother of God, was that a, I mean, it was a powerhouse. I was, you could export videos in real time, unheard of. Yeah. And so, it became my editing machine. And then after I stopped doing so many videos, it became my home computer. And I had a home computer and an office computer, and that was pretty glorious, the two computers set up. Um, and then when we opened WCCS, it became Eric's, my general manager's computer. Um, and it's been that for five years.

• 7:34Matt Farah?

And it, it, when the glass table fucking exploded, it was on it. And it fell, and uh, it did turn on, but it, uh, when we turned it on, it, it fucking overheated really fast. And I was like, oh, I bet the fan has like some glass jammed in it. So, I took it out with our giant fucking eighty gallon compressor out there. And I blasted, and uh, dude, I swear like half a sweater. And like so much, I'm so glad I put on eyewear. Um, because like all this glass dust and all this real dust, just like, all over. Yeah, it's probably never been opened. No, no, no, no, no. Has it?

• 8:14Matt Farah?

Up until it started being a computer here, when it was in my house with cats. Yeah. I cleaned it all the time. Oh, okay. Yeah, when it's, I don't think it's been cleaned since it came here. Um, but dude, and then I just plugged it back, and guess what? Still fucking working, works just fine. But Eric was so sad that it was working, cause he's been asking me for a new, he's like, dude, this computer's from twenty thirteen. It's really kinda cramping my style, and I'm like, fuck you, it works, like, you know, whatever. But finally, I'm caving and I'm buying him a new computer. Uh, just new iMac, nice, the same one I got Phil. Um, Apple will give me zero dollars for it on trade-in, but they will give me

• 8:56Matt Farah?

a shipping label. So I'm trying to think of like, but it does still work. Like, it is, it's got a bunch of ports. Um, it's got an ethernet port on it, like, it, it actually still has like a reasonable amount of both processing power, RAM, and like, the video card kinda really sucks, but like, it's gotta have some kind of use before I just like scrap it. But like, the life story, this, I bought this computer, and this motherfucker has earned its keep for twelve and a half years. And could continue to do that job if I didn't decide it was time for it to retire.

• 9:31Speaker 01

It's a really long run for a computer. Especially one that's been using, you know, being used for video production for at least half its life.

• 9:39Matt Farah?

Yeah, the first half of it was heavy, heavy video production. And it, dude, it was only when footage, when we went, uh, really full 4K, that, then it was like, okay, well, it doesn't make sense to use this for that, but,

• 9:51Speaker 01

Did we buy it for the, the all cars thing? Like, the processing that much? I mean, we just need, Tom just needed a decent computer.

• 9:58Matt Farah?

No, I bought it. When I started editing, I bought it. Tom never ended on that. No, I bought it for myself when I started editing all my own videos.

• 10:05Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 10:05Matt Farah?

And then I bought a second one. For the, remember we had for the, the watch podcast, I bought a second one, too. And, and that one is about, has been, uh, Vinnie's wife's office computer ever since I retired it. And guess what? It's about to have its third life. It's going down to South Bay to be, uh, a manager's terminal, uh, in the Wash Bay side of the store. So they don't have to run back and forth if they get a phone call over there.

• 10:32Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 10:32Matt Farah?

Like, these are like, these are some of the finest-made computers I've ever seen.

• 10:37Speaker 01

  That's amazing.

• 10:38Matt Farah?

And, and I was talking to someone and someone was like, "Yeah, you know, and the fucking, the new ones are like insanely expensive." And I was like, "Really?" And I went and priced out one. Like, the today's equivalent of what I had. And guess how much it was?

• 10:52Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 10:53Matt Farah?

Eleven thousand, seven hundred and ninety-nine dollars.

• 10:55Speaker 01

  Inflation-proof.

• 10:56Matt Farah?

  Inflation-proof.

• 10:57Speaker 01

  And less.

• 10:58Matt Farah?

I mean, the quality somehow might go down, but I, but I doubt that. Uh...

• 11:03Speaker 01

So they still make the trash can?

• 11:05Matt Farah?

No, no, no, it's not a trash can. It's just, it's now, it's, it's kinda cool looking. It's like a vertical kinda tower.

• 11:10Speaker 01

  Just a normal tower, okay.

• 11:11Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's, it's got a design element to it, but I loved, I'm like, I'm looking for a reason to keep... I wonder if it's more powerful than this?

• 11:20Speaker 01

  Uh...

• 11:21Matt Farah?

It might be, it might be worth, you know why? Because we could remote mount it on the cart and you would, wouldn't hear the fans because it'd be further from the mic.

• 11:30Speaker 01

That's very true. I mean, with these risers, people don't, haven't complained about the fans anymore unless you have a very expensive stereo maybe.

• 11:35Matt Farah?

It would be funny if it's more powerful than this.

• 11:37Speaker 01

Well, this is, do you remember the specs on the other thing?

• 11:39Matt Farah?

  Uh, it's a 3.5 gigahertz 6-core.

• 11:43Speaker 01

  This is 2.5 gigahertz 8-core.

• 11:45Matt Farah?

  Hmm.

• 11:46Speaker 01

And then graphics card might is...

• 11:48Matt Farah?

The gra, I, you, we couldn't run the show on the graphics card. Like, actually, all we're doing is pulling up web browsers.

• 11:53Speaker 01

  That's all we're doing.

• 11:53Matt Farah?

  Isn't that it?

• 11:54Speaker 01

  Yep. And then memory 64.

• 11:56Matt Farah?

Oh, this, that is 64? This is 32.

• 11:59Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. When I bought this, it was like a fully spec pro.

• 12:02Matt Farah?

So it's not gonna be that. But anyway, we'll figure it out. I'm sure a commenter will give us a good use for it.

• 12:06Speaker 01

We should send it to like...

• 12:07Matt Farah?

  That isn't porn serving.

• 12:08Speaker 01

Send it to a smart person in Nigeria. You know, one of those cool stories where, like, they had a Peterson exhibit for a while of someone who's making little scooters out there.

• 12:14Matt Farah?

  Hmm.

• 12:15Speaker 01

You know, someone out there who's like, learning their program, could run their village.

• 12:18Matt Farah?

If someone has like a great use for it, like, I, I would consider donating something, but I, but before I donate it, like, maybe there's a cool use for it here that I just haven't thought of yet.

• 12:27Speaker 01

  Right.

• 12:27Matt Farah?

Really get my fucking dollars worth out of that thing. But like, man, think about that. That's like less than a, even though it's depreciated to essentially zero, that's like less than a buck a day.

• 12:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:40Matt Farah?

No, is that right? That's not right. It might be 10 bucks a day. It was 12 grand. How many days has it been?

• 12:47Speaker 01

  Since what year?

• 12:48Matt Farah?

  Since, since 2014.

• 12:51Speaker 01

  Since 2014, it's, it's 12 years.

• 12:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 12:54Speaker 01

  Times 365, that's, uh, 4,380 days.

• 12:59Matt Farah?

  Around 3 bucks a day.

• 13:00Speaker 01

  3 bucks a day.

• 13:01Matt Farah?

Okay, alright. Still, I'm gonna call that a good investment.

• 13:05Speaker 01

Look, I mean, sure it paid for itself with all the videos you made back then.

• 13:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 13:10Speaker 01

And process footage quickly, which is an absolute game changer if you work in video.

• 13:14Matt Farah?

So, um, yeah. So how about this? I was just about to email the guy at Top Motors in England.

• 13:23Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 13:23Matt Farah?

It was on my list. It's right here. Email Guido from Top Motors is on yesterday's list. I wake up to an email from Hans at Top Motors. "My engine is done." Folks, gotta take a quick break from the show for Truework, who is supporting us this week. Look, most gear gets built to look like it works. Truework is different. Built for real conditions, hot rooftops, quick turns, jobs that don't ease up. With sweat-wicking fabric, unrestricted movement, and strength that holds firm under pressure, Truework helps keep pace when it matters. They're not here to mimic hard work. They're here to support it.

• 14:04Matt Farah?

Every seam is intentional. Every feature is tested because out in the field, you don't get respected by looking the part. You earn it by doing things right again and again. That's the bar. Truework was built to meet it with gear that works harder, moves better, and proves itself every time. Now, let me tell you something, Dak. I don't work in a mine. I don't work on the railroad. Um, I don't do a lot of manual labor. But Truework sent me some pants and a hoodie and a lightweight, UV-resistant sort of hooded shirt thing. They're comfortable. They're soft. They're stretchy. I wear them up on the mountain when driving a convertible car. I wore the stretchy thing on the beach when walking with Hannah.

• 14:48Matt Farah?

I don't do any of this hot rooftop stuff, but the Truework is still quite good. I've got it all hanging in the closet right now. The problem is the traditional workwear hasn't changed much over 200 years, and Truework upgrades the traditional classics by using the same fabrics worn by elite outdoor athletes. That's me. I'm the elite outdoor athlete. Truework has over 50,000 5-star reviews and countless stories from trade pros in every state and every job across the country. Right? I put these clothes on and I feel soft, I feel breathing, I'm not schwitzing in there. Whether you're going hiking, going to work, going to, uh, Arowan. You can wear Truework, you will fit in and it will be comfy.

• 15:32Matt Farah?

Check out the full Truework lineup and get 15% off your first order at truewerk.com/tire. That's 15% off at T R U E W E R K dot com slash tire. And thank you to Truework for sponsoring today's program. Plus, it's a big one, Zach, you ready, Red? Mm-hmm, hit me. Finally.

• 16:00Matt Farah?

This far into the podcast, this far into doing it over a thousand episodes. Cat food. We finally have cat food. Wow. It's taken me this long, but Smalls is here and they make cat food. I love my cats. If you follow on Instagram, you know I love my cats. They are a loved bunch in my house. We have four of them. We've set up our entire house to make their lives better. Um, but the one thing they're picky about, not where they sleep, which is anywhere. Not the scruples they like, which is all of them. And not the snergs, because they like them too. But sometimes, they get very picky about their food. They decide out of nowhere that they don't like the food anymore.

• 16:44Matt Farah?

And you've already bought like three months worth of food. It's like, it's a, it can be a disaster. Right? Maybe this is your cat, or maybe your cat is having digestive issues or throwing up or getting hairballs, or maybe in need of a diet upgrade. You know who's in need of a diet upgrade? Cricket. My cricket is a little bit spherical and we need to work on that. So I'm trying Smalls. Smalls cat food is protein-packed recipes made with preservative-free ingredients you'd find in your own fridge, delivered right to your door. That's why cats.com named Smalls their best overall cat food. Uh, to get 35% off plus an additional 50% off your first order, head to Smalls.com and use promo code tire for a limited time only.

• 17:26Matt Farah?

Now, cat, Smalls, they want me to talk about how my cats like the food. Truth be told. They liked the food. They really did like the food a lot, to the point where I, they sent me a little sample pack. I actually had to answer a little questionnaire about each of the cats. Um, I, I was honest. I wasn't kind. Like, cricket is a little too round. And, and, but they all eat together, so they kinda have to have the same diet. You can't just feed one cat differently. So, they sent me a sort of a, a variety pack, and man, did my cats just rip through everything. And even if you give your cats dry food, Smalls, Smalls makes a good topper, because you really should transition. You gotta have some protein-filled

• 18:08Matt Farah?

wet food in your cat's diet. You can't just have kibble all the time. Right? Right. After switching to Smalls, 88% of cat owners reported overall health improvements, which is a huge deal. Smalls is so confident that your cat will love their product, that you can try it risk-free, that means they will refund you fully if your cat doesn't eat their food. For a limited time only, because you're a smoked and tire listener, get 35% off Smalls, plus an additional 50% off your first order by using code tire, T-I-R-E. That's an additional 50, 50% off when you head to Smalls.com and use promo code tire. Promo code tire for

an additional 50% off your order, plus free shipping at Smalls.com. And thank you for being the first cat food company to sponsor this program after 20 years of having four cats. That's it. I think that's so funny. You got an engine before you got cat food. And, uh, he sends me a whole folder full of videos, a whole folder full of, of photos of the build process, and a video of it running on a stand. This is so cool. It's not a dyno. They're not measuring the power. It's just a stand to test it running. Yeah, it's on like an engine cart. Yeah, yeah. Um, they put carburetors on it, because that's just how they test the motors. They just have a rack of carburetors that are tuned that they put on the, but,

• 19:35Matt Farah?

uh, it runs. Gearbox rebuild is done. Um, there was, so I told you that I had, was supposed to email Guido and I heard back from a man named Hans. Guido is no longer with the company. Now, that doesn't mean anything nefarious has happened, he's just not there anymore. And there's a little issue because if you look in the video, you'll see what looked like a couple of fucking wrapped prosciuttos alongside my engine, which are US spec exhaust manifolds.

• 20:08Speaker 01

  Oh, these things.

• 20:09Matt Farah?

Whereas Guido and I were incredibly clear that I was to have European exhaust manifolds, which don't look like a packaged ham. They look like an actual header. Like a, like a header header, where individual tubes.

• 20:23Speaker 01

Were these put on because they're just around?

• 20:25Matt Farah?

Well, I wrote, wrote back to Hans like, wow, these look beautiful and everything is, is fabulous and how exciting and just one question, you know, in this email from last year, we agreed that we were going to do the European exhausts and whatever, and in these photos I see US, like, I just need to make sure that that engine comes back with the European exhausts and as of yesterday, it will, it was, well, thank you for your enthusiasm and I will get you these answers to these questions immediately.

• 20:58Matt Farah?

So maybe they have to pull those off and put on the US ones and, you know, okay, fine.

• 21:03Speaker 01

Well, that's easy because right now you have full access to the engine.

• 21:06Matt Farah?

It's there, it's still there, it hasn't left. Okay, so, so, I mean, look, and if I, please fucking catch it there.

• 21:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:14Matt Farah?

You know, like, um, and yeah, I mean, it just, it, it does make me want to like go back with all the emails that I have with the old person and go, hey, just like, let's make sure that,

• 21:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 21:24Matt Farah?

you know, I'm happy to see a running engine, but like all this is supposed to be in there, right? You know? So, we're just checking, but seeing a running engine is very satisfying.

• 21:36Matt Farah?

But what's real crazy about this is I went to go send that video to John Tamarion from Curated. And John Tamarion owns a place called Curated, we've hung out with him, we podcasted with him down in Miami, we drove a couple of his cars, the Diablo GTs and, and really fun stuff. And John is who referred me to Top Motors.

• 21:59Speaker 01

Yeah. John finds, you know, 80s and 90s supercars and special cars and sells them.

• 22:05Matt Farah?

And he was, and they restore them in-house as well. And if my car was in one piece, I would have just sent it to him. And that would have been donezo. But in all those pieces, it transporting it from LA to Miami is like, would have been risky and silly. Even John said, what, even if you sent me the whole car, I would then send the engine to Top Motors. So you just send the engine to Top Motors. That's what you do. In Italy. And I go, okay, well, what am I looking at? He goes, you're looking at a year, you're looking at 70. And I go, you know, something like that. And he goes, listen, someone in the US will tell you eight months and 40.

• 22:45Matt Farah?

And then by the time it's done, it's two years and 90. In Italy, it's a year and 70. And that's what it'll be. And I go, okay, sounds good. That day is when I called them, or emailed or whatever. And I was like, huh. Trying to do the math in my head. I scrolled back through the texts when he told me to do that. I scrolled back through the emails. 364 days and $71,200.

• 23:21Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 23:21Matt Farah?

Have you ever seen a fucking call like that?

• 23:24Speaker 01

  That's amazing.

• 23:25Matt Farah?

  That's unbelievable.

• 23:27Speaker 01

From an engine shop? Because here we're used to delays.

• 23:31Matt Farah?

Including shipping. That includes shipping. That includes the day I emailed them.

• 23:36Speaker 01

  That's fantastic.

• 23:37Matt Farah?

I mean, granted, it's not back, but to a video of the engine running?

• 23:41Speaker 01

Yeah, your engine is basically done on time.

• 23:44Matt Farah?

  Wow.

• 23:45Speaker 01

  That's pretty cool.

• 23:45Matt Farah?

That's, and my transmission's done too. Like, they don't have a video of that, but my transmission is also done. Like, whoa.

• 23:53Speaker 01

That's, that's why they have that reputation that John passed along.

• 23:58Matt Farah?

I mean, not only did they nail it, you know, and I said, I said to John, do you, do you understand how, that you just Babe Ruthed fucking that into the, in, out of the stadium, that call? No one's ever made a call like that before. He's like, do you know how many of these I've done?

• 24:13Speaker 01

Yeah, that's why. He's probably done dozens. And he just knows that they're always on time and they're always good. That's fantastic. Shout out to them.

• 24:21Matt Farah?

He goes, here's what happens in Italy. They don't change the price when things get a little weird. They just go, you know, that's the ups and downs. Their average, their price is built in a little margin of like, oops, we found this and it needs to get. Whereas in other places, it's nickel and dimed up and down the whole thing. These guys, all they do is Italian V12s. Their customers don't want to deal with that bullshit.

• 24:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:47Matt Farah?

  How much is it? Okay.

• 24:49Speaker 01

  Right.

• 24:49Matt Farah?

That's it. And it's, apparently it's always that amount.

• 24:52Speaker 01

And if one engine is easier for them, they go, all right, we saved two grand.

• 24:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 24:56Speaker 01

And then the next engine that comes in, they gotta spend two extra. And they go, all right, all right.

• 25:00Matt Farah?

And we still drink the wine at the end of the day. It's okay.

• 25:02Speaker 01

  Pretty much, yeah.

• 25:05Matt Farah?

Uh, I don't have the whole folder of photos ready right now. I didn't airdrop them to Zach, but we, next, next show, we can go through the whole folder of, of build photos, like the whole fucking place is like Diablo, Mura, Mura, fucking Espada.

• 25:18Speaker 01

Well, last time we looked at him and behind a guy in a corner, you spotted some super rare.

• 25:22Matt Farah?

  The silver coontot.

• 25:24Speaker 01

Like, holy shit, wait a minute, yeah.

• 25:25Matt Farah?

Yeah, super rare, yeah, silver low body, crazy. Um, but like, damn, might actually like, I don't, I don't wanna, I don't wanna say I might drive this car in 2025. That's like, that's a straight like knock wood, I don't know. But it was very rewarding, rewarding to, uh, to see a video of it, of it actually running. Boy, does it, even with those US manifolds on it, it sounds mighty healthy and smooth. It revs fucking nice.

• 25:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 25:56Speaker 01

Well, I hope so, right? It's a fully rebuilt, new bearings, new everything.

• 25:59Matt Farah?

I mean, apparent, I, I should, according to this, I said, I would, I'd like, I'd love if you send me, you know, very detailed, uh, break in schedule as well as a very detailed maintenance schedule. I said, I, look, I adhere to this shit and, you know, according to John, you know, this is a, this should be, all of this shit should be once in my lifetime and I'd just drive the car for the rest of my life.

• 26:20Speaker 01

  Right.

• 26:21Matt Farah?

Okay, sounds fine. I can, I can live with that. Leave the outside scruffy, paint's got chips all over it, who gives a shit?

• 26:29Speaker 01

So is this engine in a way?

• 26:33Speaker 01

More like requires less maintenance than an air-cooled Porsche? Like, how often do you have to do that top end rebuild?

• 26:39Matt Farah?

On an air-cooled? On an air-cooled?

• 26:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:41Matt Farah?

I mean, every hundred K or when it starts smoking?

• 26:43Speaker 01

I thought it was every forty or something.

• 26:44Matt Farah?

  No, it's a hundred.

• 26:45Speaker 01

  Oh, alright.

• 26:45Matt Farah?

It's just, it's like, the car, the kind of cars that our friends are buying, like, it's a, um, it's not confirmation bias, selection bias, or whatever.

• 26:55Speaker 01

  Correlation causation thing, yeah.

• 26:56Matt Farah?

Yeah, like, we just know a lot of people that are buying a depreciated Porsche right around the time it needs that shit. Yeah, a hundred K on a top end, two hundred on a bottom end.

• 27:05Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 27:05Matt Farah?

  So...

• 27:06Speaker 01

  That's a long time.

• 27:07Matt Farah?

Yeah. And then a lot of people, like, when I did the Safari, I did a top end and a bottom end. Cause I was like, well, I'm in there, it's an extra fucking two grand, like, for extra durability, like, go for it.

• 27:19Speaker 01

If it's, yeah, if you're, if you're already doing it and it's too, too to do the whole thing.

• 27:23Matt Farah?

Yeah, I mean, a percent, it's an extra ten percent.

• 27:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:26Matt Farah?

Fifteen percent to do the whole thing, fuck it, just do it.

• 27:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:28Matt Farah?

You know? You really wanna go while you're in there in a top end, on a bottom end, you can do a three, four stroker crank and then you're in business.

• 27:35Speaker 01

I'm gonna send my car to get the bearings done soon. When I was at good vibes, you know, going fast.

• 27:39Matt Farah?

  Yours hasn't been done?

• 27:40Speaker 01

  No.

• 27:40Matt Farah?

  That's crazy.

• 27:41Speaker 01

  Isn't that amazing?

• 27:42Matt Farah?

They should send yours to a lab or something.

• 27:44Speaker 01

A museum? It should be next to the, the Mac, the, uh, the tower, you know, they could both be in their respective museums.

• 27:49Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:49Speaker 01

I, yeah, I think I'm on borrowed time, so I'm just like, it's the last thing.

• 27:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 27:53Speaker 01

  Sort of.

• 27:55Matt Farah?

Okay, okay, that's gonna be, that's not engine out, right? You do it from the bottom?

• 27:58Speaker 01

No, they do it from the bottom, and there's, there's a lot of good race shops here that specialize in that, much like these guys.

• 28:03Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 28:03Speaker 01

So, they just, they got a price and you go, send it down there and, so, whenever I go out of town, I'll, I'll, I'll AAA it down there.

• 28:10Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, but, fucking, oh, man, it's gonna be great. The, I bet you, it's, we got, we're gonna have new bushings, new shocks, new brakes, I mean, it, it should really drive like, like this car's some host of fucking drive. Gotta make sure I can get new tires, too. The tires I bought in twenty eighteen are now, them shits is now done.

• 28:33Speaker 01

But don't you have to wait for them to do, like, the limited run?

• 28:36Matt Farah?

  No, they make them now.

• 28:37Speaker 01

  Oh, they do?

• 28:38Matt Farah?

No, by popular demand, as, as part of a run of, of, they wanted, uh, all of the eighties guys. Everyone who ran fat rear tires and small fronts in the eight, the Testerosas and...

• 28:48Speaker 01

  Pantera?

• 28:49Matt Farah?

And the, yeah, the nine elevens, I mean, all these people were like, we, we, we need tires for all these cars and Pirelli, now, they make two. I have... The ones that are on there now, they're now old, are the proper, they look like the old tires. The P zero with the yellow stamping on it and the old tread pattern. What Harry Metcalf did was he got the P seven, which is a more modern tread pattern and sidewall, but in a Countach size. He says that they, that it's worth getting those, that they're better. And so I think I'm probably just gonna get the, yeah, the Sinterrado P seven versus the original vintage P zero.

• 29:32Speaker 01

I just wanna see what the tread looks like on these things.

• 29:34Matt Farah?

It's just like a regular, it's not like anything super special, but it's, but it's like the old, mine are like the old tread.

• 29:41Speaker 01

  Yours are the old zigzag?

• 29:42Matt Farah?

Yeah, they're super old school, yeah. I don't think you'd wanna get caught in the rain. And I think the side, the sidewalls are a lot better on these and like if you don't care about the originality, these just drive better, so. But they make, yeah, you got Countach sizes, Diablo sizes now, so yay. Yay to Pirelli for, uh, for them sizes.

• 30:02Speaker 01

So is there an ETA when the engine arrives back? I mean, you still have to assemble the whole other thing.

• 30:07Matt Farah?

Well, first the question of the headers will be answered and then they get shipped back. Um, it does go, it gets, it only takes like a week to ship it back. It's like, cause it goes air, it doesn't go boat. Yeah, so, um.

• 30:18Speaker 01

There's no tariff situation, cause it's not a new thing.

• 30:21Matt Farah?

No, I don't believe so. It's my thing that was being worked on and coming back. I wasn't purch, I filled out like a bunch of.

• 30:28Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 30:29Matt Farah?

You know, it wasn't Carney, it was, um.

• 30:33Matt Farah?

Oh, it's another word, um, whatever it was, um, pro forma invoice, which is just like a thing that says, here's what's in my crate and I own it and it's coming back. So, yeah, I guess they do this shit a lot. So, yeah, no one, no one is, no one has indicated that there would be anything like that, so. Yay.

• 30:52Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 30:52Matt Farah?

And then we get to like, uh, you know, it's gonna be put back together close and we get to check that process out.

• 30:58Speaker 01

  That'll be cool.

• 30:59Matt Farah?

Speaking of which, I don't know if you saw, I added it to the calendar. It's gonna, this month's gonna get expensive for your boy because the Mank's body has arrived also. So, we now have that. So, the Mank's buddy, body, they're gonna start building this week.

• 31:15Speaker 01

They start assembling on the body.

• 31:17Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 31:17Speaker 01

  Right.

• 31:17Matt Farah?

This week. The engine's already there, the interior's there.

• 31:20Speaker 01

Feels like that'd be a quick process because you, you know, it's open, there's not like, they're not adding doors, they're not adding...

• 31:26Matt Farah?

So, yeah, it's, it's kind of...

• 31:30Speaker 01

Like relatively quick compared to a car.

• 31:32Matt Farah?

  Relat- well, yeah.

• 31:33Speaker 01

  It's a lot less complicated.

• 31:34Matt Farah?

But, but there's like, you know, nine people doing it, so...

• 31:36Speaker 01

  True.

• 31:37Matt Farah?

It takes them, uh, five weeks to assemble a car. Um, so, they said, you know, they're starting it next week and that, and it'll be done at the, by the end of July, and I'm like, uh, well, it's gotta be in, at Pebble, so like, this is gonna be like one of those...

• 31:55Speaker 01

Yep, this is a build show.

• 31:56Matt Farah?

This is gonna be like one of those build shows that I've been saying is really unrealistic.

• 32:00Speaker 01

You got your own SEMA car.

• 32:01Matt Farah?

It's gotta be done in time. And, you know, I wanna drive it around up there, which means I gotta put some fucking QC miles on it, too.

• 32:08Speaker 01

  Yeah, sure.

• 32:09Matt Farah?

You know, brand new car, shit could go down.

• 32:12Speaker 01

I, I would imagine, based on the provenance this car will have and who's driving it where, and it's, you know, a bit, it's not their coming out party, but it's like, one of the earliest, are you the first person to take delivery of the radial engine? First customer?

• 32:25Matt Farah?

  I, no.

• 32:26Speaker 01

  No?

• 32:26Matt Farah?

I don't think, no, I don't think so. No, I've, I, there were other ones that were almost, there was a couple like special ones, like for some like, VVIPs that were being built that I, they wouldn't let me see like even what color they were, but I knew, but they said that I could see that they were radial engine.

• 32:44Speaker 01

Okay, well, yeah. Hopefully they get some development miles on yours before you take it.

• 32:49Matt Farah?

Well, yeah, or I'll do some, I mean, I'm happy to do it, too. Like, I, I'm, I will partake in the development process, it's just right there. I'll fucking go drive that thing around for a few hours.

• 32:58Speaker 01

Also, it seems like a pretty simple machine, engine aside, you know?

• 33:01Matt Farah?

  For sure.

• 33:01Speaker 01

It's like, it's got headlights and that's it.

• 33:04Matt Farah?

Yeah, I know. It's not, it should be alright.

• 33:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:07Matt Farah?

But nevertheless, before I take it and like go driving, you know, traffic and on fucking Big Sur.

• 33:15Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 33:16Matt Farah?

  You know, like.

• 33:17Speaker 01

Yeah. Matt Farah breaks down in Manx on Big Sur is not a story that wants to be seen.

• 33:22Matt Farah?

No, I don't think that will happen, but like, you know, talking like three weeks.

• 33:26Speaker 01

  I know. That's what I'm saying. Yeah.

• 33:27Matt Farah?

We gotta be, you know, a little snappy on it.

• 33:30Speaker 01

You just gotta make sure all the electrical connections are.

• 33:33Matt Farah?

I mean, they are going to have, in fairness, a full team at Pebble. Like, they're showing cars at the Quail, like their head of like technical is gonna be there, like, you know, like, fucking Freeman can probably fix one of these things if he has to. He's gonna fucking call his ass up, like, yo, get over here, bro.

• 33:50Speaker 01

  He's a designer, not an engineer. I mean, I'm sure he's a handy guy.

• 33:53Matt Farah?

I think Freeman could probably work on, work on one if he had to. I don't know. He seems a handy. Right? What do you think Freeman drives? Did you, oh, did you see his car when he came here and did the show?

• 34:03Speaker 01

  Uh, no.

• 34:04Matt Farah?

It was a little disappointing, to be honest with you.

• 34:06Speaker 01

  Why? What was it?

• 34:07Matt Farah?

Because what he does is so cool. It's a Bronco Sport.

• 34:10Speaker 01

  Oh, that is surprising.

• 34:12Matt Farah?

Yeah. A lot of bad cars. It's just like, yeah, it's just not like an interesting car for somebody that like, is like a cool California car designer.

• 34:20Speaker 01

  True.

• 34:21Matt Farah?

I'm not talking, trying to talk shit on the guy. I love him, but little, little character, maybe? He's gotta have something fun inside.

• 34:27Speaker 01

It'd be fun to ask him, like, and be like, what do you like about this car? And either it was a convenient thing and there was COVID and you couldn't get the regular Bronco.

• 34:33Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 34:34Speaker 01

Or he goes, I love this part and this thing and this aspect and.

• 34:38Matt Farah?

That's true. I don't want to sell him short. He might find, have something very, very appealing about that car. We'll, we'll corner him at Pebble and ask him.

• 34:45Speaker 01

I mean, we've driven that car. That car's better on the highway than a regular Bronco.

• 34:48Matt Farah?

And it made it up Rower.

• 34:49Speaker 01

And it did that. So it just, it just doesn't have the, the curb appeal of the, the real Bronco.

• 34:55Matt Farah?

Yeah, that's true. It's, it, it, it can't be cool. There's just nothing you can do to it to make it, I've seen him in every color. Our homie put the rooftop tent on one, all blacked out.

• 35:06Speaker 01

Looks weird. Cause it's an escape.

• 35:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 35:08Speaker 01

With some weird, some Bronco shit stretched around it.

• 35:11Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 35:11Speaker 01

The front's too round. Yeah, it's too small.

• 35:13Matt Farah?

  It's a little unfortunate looking.

• 35:15Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 35:15Matt Farah?

It is extremely ca- but like, in the, it's in the world of the Dodge Nitro. You know? The Dodge Nitro, like, shockingly good, like, offro- or the Jeep version.

• 35:25Speaker 01

  The Compass and the Patriot.

• 35:27Matt Farah?

The Compass and the Patriot, like.

• 35:28Speaker 01

  They were actually really.

• 35:29Matt Farah?

Heinous little vehicles that were surprisingly good on dirt.

• 35:33Speaker 01

That was the beginning of hill descent control. I think that was the first vehicle I ever drove, first press car. I went to like.

• 35:38Matt Farah?

  Like a Patriot?

• 35:39Speaker 01

Yeah, I went to the Jeep thing in Malibu.

• 35:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 35:41Speaker 01

And it was a silver Patriot. Nothing has looked less expensive as a press car. And it had hill descent control that just did the whole thing for me. It was amazing.

• 35:49Matt Farah?

Those things were surprisingly good off-road, yeah. Um, so anyway, the, uh, we're gonna get to go see the Manks being, being built.

• 35:56Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 35:57Matt Farah?

Um, you know, they were all like, should we wait for you to do stuff? I was like, no, absolutely not. I will, I'll come down there. I put it on the schedule for whatever. When, like, two days after I get back from, uh, Italy, we'll go down there and see what they're, what they're doing. May- maybe like, um, you know, they have the, um, the gray car that I did for Road and Track, the dev car. So maybe we could do a little thing where we'll take it for a spin. You should dri- you have to drive it, cause it's a fucking good time.

• 36:24Speaker 01

  Love to. Absolutely.

• 36:25Matt Farah?

And after air-water, I upgraded my shifter for 300. They have a new shifter.

• 36:31Speaker 01

Oh, the Action. Not like, not a new Nob or something.

• 36:34Matt Farah?

No, no, no, we're the Nob.

• 36:36Speaker 01

  Hot dog, right?

• 36:36Matt Farah?

We're committed to the hot dog.

• 36:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:37Matt Farah?

Yeah, the hot dog is, that's, that joke, I'm gonna fly that joke right into the fucking mountain. It's not gonna be funny, and I'm gonna keep it going for a long time afterwards.

• 36:46Speaker 01

Eventually, your bathroom will be unusable.

• 36:47Matt Farah?

Everyone else will be like, you're an asshole, but my wife will love me more than she ever has. Um, that makes me smart. Um, no, no, the, the mechanism, I don't know.

• 36:59Matt Farah?

I can't say in what way technically it's an upgrade, but like the one I drove before, and then at Air Water, they had this newer one that had this shifter and I was like, what, but, hold on, I'm like, just, what's different? Well, this is better. Why is this better? Like, oh, that's our new shifter upgrade. I was like, check please.

• 37:18Speaker 01

  Add it to the tab.

• 37:19Matt Farah?

On the tab, let's, let this, we need that. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. That and we gotta test fit seats, because they have, I wanna make sure it's not lost in, you know, as low and as far back as you can physically fit the driver's seat.

• 37:35Speaker 01

  Or bolted?

• 37:36Matt Farah?

Well, it has to be on, it has to be on rails, because Hannah has to drive it. But still, it has to be able to go low and, if you have to move the rails far back and Hannah has to go all the way forward, like so be it.

• 37:47Speaker 01

  Or make long rails, whatever.

• 37:48Matt Farah?

Like, no, these things are so small, like even if you move the rails back, like all the way forward is like impossible for most humans.

• 37:55Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 37:55Matt Farah?

Yeah. And then, uh, our Royal Highness is matched luggage. Cooler. Matched luggage cooler.

• 38:02Speaker 01

  Cooler that bolts into it.

• 38:03Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 38:03Speaker 01

Straps into it. That's a cool little fun car.

• 38:05Matt Farah?

Yeah. Uh, and Ali got some coolers that are like some special, like vacuum sealed, some kinda coolers, I don't know.

• 38:12Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 38:13Matt Farah?

  Yeah. I don't know.

• 38:14Speaker 01

That seems like something, maybe he invented it and then he's like, I made these because I wanted it to exist and now I don't use it. He did that with a kebab turner.

• 38:23Matt Farah?

Oh, yeah, the automated kebab spinner.

• 38:26Speaker 01

Our friend Ali is an engineer of, you know, creator of Range Energy and also prototype guy and like racing engineer. And he showed me these pictures. He's like, I used to cook for the whole family and so I wanted something to turn the kebabs. And so I just made this. He's like, I ordered a gear set from here and this from here and I made a box and then someone saw it.

• 38:43Matt Farah?

Chain of cam gears that would spin.

• 38:45Speaker 01

Yeah, it was like a lot of cams lined up.

• 38:47Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 38:47Speaker 01

And then someone online saw a picture and was like, hey, are you selling those? He goes, ah, you can have the design.

• 38:51Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 38:52Speaker 01

And he just gave it. Now the guy sells it as like kebab king and you can buy it for your restaurant.

• 38:56Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 38:56Speaker 01

  Amazing.

• 38:57Matt Farah?

Um, he should have kept the patent on that. That would have been a like.

• 39:00Speaker 01

That's what I said to him and he goes, eh, my, my brain's got other stuff to do. I'm gonna make money somewhere else.

• 39:05Matt Farah?

Your brain doesn't have to do anything. Your lawyer does that. Here, lawyer, defend my patent.

• 39:10Speaker 01

He had bigger, well, yeah, he's hybridizing semi truck trailers, which there's probably a higher demand for.

• 39:14Matt Farah?

Listen. You want to talk about a business model that is independent of the economy, of any of any government grants, of any EPA standards? Kabobs, dude. Kabobs are fucking recession-proof.

• 39:32Speaker 01

  Maybe, yeah.

• 39:35Matt Farah?

In fact, kabobs probably go up. If you started a kebab stand in a recession, people would be like, "You're just being a fucking disaster capitalist right now."

• 39:42Speaker 01

You're like, "No, I'm trying to provide food." I don't know, I bet there was maybe the demand was lower than he thought. Or he underestimated it, but either way, I was shocked too.

• 39:49Matt Farah?

I'm glad that if my investment turns to zero, there's a fallback plan in the kebab market.

• 39:56Speaker 01

You gotta get that IP back.

• 39:57Matt Farah?

Yeah, we need, I mean, all you gotta do is like, translate that to, you know, hot dogs or something.

• 40:03Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 40:04Matt Farah?

Good to go. He does need, he owes me, though. He needs to teach me. He knows how to do the, this is gonna be a gross hand gesture, but the kabobs that he's talking about.

• 40:15Speaker 01

Matt's milking a cow right now.

• 40:16Matt Farah?

Are not the, like, not American kabobs, like the Middle Eastern, like, kabobs where it's the meat squeezed around the sword.

• 40:22Speaker 01

  Called kibba, I think.

• 40:23Matt Farah?

Like, that kind, I have never been able to get that right, and he knows the special secret to doing it, and I need to be taught that.

• 40:29Speaker 01

  He does know that, yeah.

• 40:32Matt Farah?

I have almost nothing else on my list, except talk, reminding people that you can come drive with me in September on literally the best event that Road and Track has ever put up. We've got Montage Healdsburg Lodge at the Presidio, Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe, we've got Sonoma Raceway, we've got unbelievable wine tasting, we've got an unbelievable restaurant, and I'm going to scout the route for Seaside to Sierra. I'm going to scout it as soon as I get back from Italy. And, uh, yeah, wine country plus Lake Tahoe.

• 41:13Speaker 01

  Plus racetrack.

• 41:14Matt Farah?

  Plus Sonoma Raceway.

• 41:15Speaker 01

  That's great.

• 41:16Matt Farah?

Yeah, plus all, all A-plus hotels and, uh, some really good food and Scott Pruitt's wine, which we had a bunch of at, uh, 10 tenths. That's what they were pouring down there. Um, that's gonna be awesome. You can sign up at experiences dot road and track dot com and we can ship your car there. Uh, one or both ways. Um, you can ship, uh, your car to LA, uh, to WCCS and drive it up there.

• 41:40Speaker 01

If you like California, this is the best road trip ever.

• 41:43Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 41:44Speaker 01

And if you hate California and you live somewhere else and you're like, they fucked up, stayed up. Come visit and you'll see why we pay the taxes.

• 41:52Matt Farah?

Um, but yeah, this sort of this, uh, that, that band that runs north of San Francisco from the ocean to Reno, to Lake Tahoe, that is the, the paradise of driving in California. So, not to mention, you know, one of California's best racetracks. Um, I believe my, right now, my plan is to get that Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, which I was quite smitten with to drive that, although I think I'm driving something a little lesser for the Scout.

• 42:24Speaker 01

  Oh, that makes sense. Yeah.

• 42:26Matt Farah?

Uh, there's actually, right now, it's like that turnover time, like at the end of the,

• 42:31Speaker 01

  Press Car Land?

• 42:31Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's turnover time between model years and, uh, Pickens is a slim.

• 42:37Speaker 01

But sometimes they also are willing to give you something really cool because it's like it's about to be crushed.

• 42:42Matt Farah?

Oh, yeah, no, it's, it's too late. Like January is the car from September is gonna get crushed and so last hurrah kind of thing.

• 42:50Speaker 01

That's why they gave me the truck to jump.

• 42:52Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 42:52Speaker 01

Like, yeah, five thousand miles on it.

• 42:54Matt Farah?

Yeah, and the King of the Hammers truck that we, the Raptor that we took to King of the Hammers, same thing. By the time you get to June, it's really the leftover fucking dreggles. It's the stuff, not the stuff that needs to go back, just the stuff that still has plenty of available miles.

• 43:08Speaker 01

  A lot of Nissan Ultimas.

• 43:10Matt Farah?

Uh, not that bad, but I got, I was sent a list for, of available loans out of SFO and I was like, oof. I mean, it was brutal, brutal. The, the, the highest performance car, and I sound very spoiled saying this, but I'm, I have, it's not just about scouting the route. I'm writing a story for road and track. That's, it's a combination thing where in order to promote the event, I scout the route in a cool car and then do a car review set against the backdrop of the thing. That's the point. So it's not just like me being a snob of like, ew, I don't want to drive an Elantra.

• 43:45Speaker 01

  No McLarens?

• 43:46Matt Farah?

It's not that at all. It's literally like, what car would be suitable for road and track dot com? And the, the closest we could find was?

• 43:57Speaker 01

  Pacifica.

• 43:58Matt Farah?

No, it was an AMG sedan.

• 44:02Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 44:02Matt Farah?

That was like three levels from the top level of that car.

• 44:07Speaker 01

Oh, it's not like it had the turbo inline six or whatever it was?

• 44:10Matt Farah?

  Just right in the middle.

• 44:11Speaker 01

  The fifty-three?

• 44:13Matt Farah?

Just, I, I don't want to, I don't want to say which one, but, and then there, but, but it wasn't, it was just not an interesting car. So like, you know, I don't know. I hope, I hope I don't say that meanwhile, if you read this story next month and it's like, look what I'm driving in this story. There are, no, there are some, uh, some other options, um, including a couple of things that I actually haven't driven yet that I kind of want to. Do you know that I haven't driven an EcoBoost Mustang of any kind since like twenty fourteen, when that thing came out?

• 44:43Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 44:44Matt Farah?

Not since the very first year have I driven any EcoBoost Mustang.

• 44:49Speaker 01

Wow. We filmed one for that show I made with Armin called Corbin's Shit Show. We raced his science experiment versus a new convertible EcoBoost Mustang.

• 44:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 45:00Speaker 01

Uh, and it was actually pretty good, but yeah.

• 45:02Matt Farah?

Did you rent the convertible EcoBoost Mustang? That sounds like a rental.

• 45:05Speaker 01

Yeah, we might have, because I don't think we could get one in time.

• 45:09Matt Farah?

Ford, uh, there, Ford does actually have one. I'm waiting to hear back if it's available.

• 45:13Speaker 01

  Could drive that.

• 45:13Matt Farah?

No, no, that's not, that, that, it was not part of that list. It wasn't on the list at all. Um, I, that would, I'd have to get out of LA and drive it up there, actually.

• 45:22Speaker 01

Oh, we could drive one here for a video or something if it's worth it, because I'm...

• 45:25Matt Farah?

Oh, maybe if they have one, but, but if I can do it for this, that'll be fine. Um, but the others, the, the rest of it, but, but I gotta go do it. I'm gonna drive it, it's gonna be fun. And, uh, and more importantly, when we do it for reals in, in the end of September, not the beginning of September, they changed the date. They put it on Labor Day. That didn't help signups much at all. So, uh, point taken, date moved, end of September. So come on down, it's gonna be the best time. It's not gonna be like death hot anymore. It's pretty hot there in August, but end of September.

• 45:58Speaker 01

  Perfect.

• 45:59Matt Farah?

Mmm, gonna be fucking grape tasting, motherfuckers. Um, let's go to the people. The people, do they have things to say?

• 46:07Speaker 01

  We got a bunch.

• 46:08Matt Farah?

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, let's get.

• 46:12Speaker 01

We got some new, amazing, uh, usernames.

• 46:15Matt Farah?

  Some new hot babies.

• 46:16Speaker 01

This is such a fun game. You guys are doing, you folks are doing a great job of making silly usernames.

• 46:21Matt Farah?

Let's get to it. Of course, if you want to ask questions, uh, of the program, if you want to get the livestream, if you want to get the show early, if you want to get the show without ads, if you want to get extra show, patreon.com slash the smoking tire podcast is where you do all of those things. And the people you will be hearing from are, uh, even, I don't know actually what level they are, because you only can, you can join and ask questions at the very lowest tier.

• 46:48Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 46:49Matt Farah?

You do not have to be at the high tiers of Patreon to ask questions. But you do get extra props if you have good usernames like these fine folks. Just the Tiptronic says, watch strap question, getting married in a few weeks and wants a grand, oh, uh, is gonna be wearing a grand Seiko. The suit is a very light blue linen, fun strap options instead of the titanium bracelet. Uh, match your shoes with a leather shoes belt watch strap is always a safe bet. Uh, if you're going with a blue linen shirt, maybe if you're doing a brown leather shoe or, uh, uh, excuse me, a blue linen suit, um, you can do that.

• 47:32Matt Farah?

Uh, if it's like a summer wedding, grand Seiko's work really good with like a sailcloth strap. There's a company called Artem that does a good sailcloth strap, A-R-T-E-M. Um.

• 47:45Matt Farah?

Yeah. I would go, I'd go either with a leather that matches your, your suit. Um, or like a really high-end cloth, like there's a, there's a guy I like. A few weeks might be pushing it, but there's a guy I like out of England called The Strap Tailor. That does a great job and could do a, a cool, like a cloth strap that really matched your suit.

• 48:06Speaker 01

  Maybe it matched your, uh.

• 48:08Matt Farah?

Your tie or your pocket square or something, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

• 48:11Speaker 01

Connecting the color dots is a good idea.

• 48:13Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm. And if it's like a, I wouldn't, well, on your wedding, I wouldn't go with like a rubber.

• 48:18Speaker 01

  No.

• 48:19Matt Farah?

Rubber B. That's like a sport, a summer sport band.

• 48:21Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 48:22Matt Farah?

Sun Bun is really good on leather or cloth. Yeah, but not like NATO cloth, like, like high-end cloth. This is username of the, of the day. Dick Reman. It's awesome. Well, what would you rather have for a hoop-dee? Uh, a clapped-out beater, uh, beater but mechanically sound in a decent interior? Camry? Or a fresher, nicer, less abused Accord V6 with an auto? Wait, what? Wait.

• 48:54Speaker 01

Oh, so basically a worse car, but with a manual or a nicer car with an automatic?

• 49:00Matt Farah?

Oh, a nicer car with an auto?

• 49:01Speaker 01

  Yeah, if it's a hoop-dee anyway.

• 49:03Matt Farah?

  Who gives a shit?

• 49:04Speaker 01

Then I don't care about shifting it, especially in the city, auto all the time, yeah.

• 49:08Matt Farah?

Yeah, I mean, if you have, if, if you have a fun hoop-dee, that's like better than having a not fun hoop-dee. But if, if you're, if these are real cars you're talking about. And you're talking about a 2000 Toyota or a 2015 Accord? And, and your wallet can bear both.

• 49:26Speaker 01

One has CarPlay, ABS, you know, traction control, uh, cruise control, possibly radar cruise control. The other one has a manual transmission.

• 49:36Matt Farah?

  The AC Slater.

• 49:37Speaker 01

That is not even a contest. You gotta, you gotta bring those years closer together.

• 49:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah, that doesn't, that doesn't.

• 49:42Speaker 01

The Accord needs a bigger hamstring, you know, it's gotta have like no windows or something.

• 49:48Matt Farah?

The yacht formerly known as Tits. I have a six-disc changer with a dead eject button that otherwise works great. Uh, what albums would you put in it knowing they won't be changed without some work?

• 50:00Speaker 01

  It's a fun game, yeah.

• 50:02Matt Farah?

I haven't changed the CDs in the Aston Martin Vanquish since 2005. Same six.

• 50:08Speaker 01

  That makes sense.

• 50:09Matt Farah?

Never changed. I couldn't tell you if that changer works or not.

• 50:13Speaker 01

But does it play the music?

• 50:14Matt Farah?

  Oh yeah.

• 50:14Speaker 01

Alright, so that, yeah, I took the changer out of my BMW when I put the stereo in there.

• 50:19Matt Farah?

I took it out, in the NSX you, you take out the changer and that's where your Apple cable goes.

• 50:25Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 50:27Matt Farah?

I mean, okay, sick, uh, you gotta have...

• 50:32Matt Farah?

You know, yeah, I mean, I gotta have some Pearl Jam, obviously, I'm gonna have some...

• 50:36Speaker 01

I think the question for you is how little Pearl Jam can you make do with to have room for other genres or bands?

• 50:44Matt Farah?

Well, there is a, actually, what I would do is, I would get, two out of the six discs would be Pearl Jam, but I would really go through their catalog of live bootlegs in order to optimize for those two discs for the songs that I really, really do wanna hear.

• 51:02Speaker 01

How many live bootlegs are there?

• 51:03Matt Farah?

All of them, every show they've ever played, yeah.

• 51:06Speaker 01

So you'd have to listen to...

• 51:07Matt Farah?

No, no, you don't have to listen, the setlists are published on the website 'cause you can buy them as CDs and as downloads. Um, and so, there would be a, a way without buying them all to figure out what it is. Yeah, yeah, there is a way, but I would do that.

• 51:23Speaker 01

  Ooh, this is hard.

• 51:24Matt Farah?

I'd have some, uh, Gaslight Anthem, the 59th Sound.

• 51:27Speaker 01

  It's a good song.

• 51:29Matt Farah?

Great record, Soup to Nuts, Start to Finish. Uh, I'd probably have...

• 51:37Matt Farah?

I don't know, feel free to fucking toss one in here, bro.

• 51:39Speaker 01

I mean, I would, uh, Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction.

• 51:42Matt Farah?

  Ooh, yeah.

• 51:43Speaker 01

That's one of the best albums from back ever made. Um, and it's hard enough that I, like, it gives me energy, but it's got enough melody and it's complicated enough that I could like pay attention over and over again and listen to it.

• 51:53Matt Farah?

  Rage Against the Machine.

• 51:55Speaker 01

That, absolutely, especially, you know, it's a good thing. You always wanna have a Revolution soundtrack in the car, you know, 'cause you don't know what's gonna happen in the future.

• 52:02Matt Farah?

Isn't it cheat to go with a greatest hits record?

• 52:05Speaker 01

  No, I don't think so.

• 52:06Matt Farah?

  Alright, Tupac, greatest hits.

• 52:08Speaker 01

  Okay. Uh, I'd go RTJ3.

• 52:14Speaker 01

  Run the Jewels 3?

• 52:14Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 52:15Speaker 01

And then, I think I would need a complicated electronic, like, something. I don't know what, like, not Deadmau5, that's too... I don't know, I have to figure that out. But like, something I can put on, if I'm driving across Nebraska at 1:00 in the morning, for some reason, I want something for that. Oh, and I need a comedy album.

• 52:31Matt Farah?

Oh, and I would need to have, shit, it would be very difficult for me to pick an album, which Rise Against album I would have, probably Siren's Song of the Counter-Culture, but possibly A Peel to Reason.

• 52:46Matt Farah?

That is a very, very tough one to do.

• 52:48Speaker 01

I think I'd also have to have Bill Burr's, uh, the special that was filmed in black and white.

• 52:53Matt Farah?

  Shit.

• 52:53Speaker 01

Which I can't remember the name of, I'll find it right now, but I think that's his best one.

• 52:56Matt Farah?

Or fucking, yeah, you gotta have Elephant in the... How do you not go through life without an annual listening of Elephant in the Room, Patrice O'Neal's special? That's, that has to be on the annual listen list.

• 53:08Speaker 01

Oh, Bill Burr, I'm sorry you feel that way, because that's when he started doing more voices and impressions and stuff.

• 53:14Matt Farah?

  Good one.

• 53:15Speaker 01

  Good question.

• 53:15Matt Farah?

Buck Melanoma, favorite car color on a non-premium brand and recommends Mazda Soul Crystal Red. It's always a, always a...

• 53:24Speaker 01

That was gonna be my answer.

• 53:26Matt Farah?

Not a surprise, a popular choice. I mean, it depends where we want to draw the line at premium. Uh, I, the nitrous blue on my Focus RS,

• 53:36Speaker 01

  that was a good blue.

• 53:36Matt Farah?

  Fabulous. Um, the...

• 53:42Speaker 01

I mean, I was gonna go Mazda when you started reading the question. It's such a deep red, it's got enough, enough pearl in it, but not too much. I think it's fantastic. It looks good on, like, everything.

• 53:51Matt Farah?

Um, the new, the new, uh, the new green that Ford has on the Mach-E is fabulous. My silver, um, it was like, it was called, it had some special name, I'm now blanking on it, but it was a very, very deep silver. And I remember one day I parked it next to a, someone had a rented Ford Escape, and they parked it next to the Mach-E, and I was like, holy shit, the difference in these two silvers was even more different than like, the Mercedes, like, Alu-beam silver to their regular one and, uh, and whatever the Porsche GT Silver Metallic is compared to regular silver. It was great. Um, any mothman of mine, uh, says Instagram has been pushing Redwood Watches on me.

• 54:37Matt Farah?

Uh, have you ever heard of this brand? I have never heard of this brand. Can, can you take a look and let's see what they look like? Redwood Watches, we don't know anything about them. Uh, scroll down and see what thems look like. What do we have here? Oh, holy shit, those literally look like Shefields with different fucking dials, don't? With different, uh, branding on them, don't they? On the ones on the right?

• 55:01Speaker 01

Yeah, with the, the ridges around the crown, was it the crown?

• 55:05Matt Farah?

Yeah, uh, the ridge around the bezel?

• 55:06Speaker 01

  Bezel.

• 55:06Matt Farah?

Yeah, I would, without seeing these in person, I can't say yea or nay on them, but I'm gonna support my friends at Sheffield on this one. Just, uh, grab yourself a Sheffield. Yeah, it looks, it looks okay, not great. 4K Libya, uh, I follow a Twitter account called Mileage Impossible, and to my surprise, there have been several Quattro Portes with 500,000 kilometers or more. How is this possible? If you spend a fortune to fix every little thing, do they actually last? Um, I think the, the drivetrains are, especially like the automatic transmission ones, are probably stout enough that if you service them properly, they will last.

• 55:50Matt Farah?

Now, the electronics might be all fucked up and I don't know what, what a 500,000 kilometer QP looks like, probably not great.

• 55:58Speaker 01

Yeah, we'd, we'd have to, I don't know, or we could be wrong, maybe, and maybe it runs, but other things don't work, like windows and things? Who knows, I mean, if the bearings are good and on shit like that, and all you have to do is actually replace spark plugs and, I don't know, fix like, I feel like a lot of problematic engines have a thing, people go, these, all, these parts always break. And if you fix that thing, and if, I mean, this is a pretty simple V8, it's not a turbocharged, you know, N94 motor, it might actually last a long time.

• 56:27Matt Farah?

Yeah, the F1 gearbox sucked, but once it got an aut, a regular automatic at the update, like, I, I mean, either I think you spend a fortune to fix every little thing, or you're comfortable with every little thing not working.

• 56:41Speaker 01

  Very, very true.

• 56:42Matt Farah?

But I think the powertrain is probably capable of that, sure. Um, Haysman says, do you think, oh, wait, oh, the title card is why people didn't watch the King of the Hammers video.

• 56:55Matt Farah?

I mean, there's, it's, it's, it's, it's several different things that's like outside of what our audience wants, um, and I'm not sure it was, dude, the kind of shit that I get recommended on YouTube, like, I only really watch YouTube, um, while I'm on the elliptical machine, and I only watch a couple of channels. I watch some more news, um, I'll watch, uh, Engineering Explained, if he's got a new video, or I'll watch Kamisa, if he's got a new video, um, I'll watch maybe a Harris video, um, and I watch the Legal Eagle, who's the lawyer, Devon Stone, who's in LA, we should try to get that guy in the, on the podcast, it seems that that's a thing we could do. Um, but that's really it. And I just get, the shit

• 57:39Matt Farah?

that I get recommended is all like, this dude reacts to this dude, or like, this dude calls out fraud, or like, just, you know, political shit, um, and it's just like, no, I'm not, anyway, um, my experience is my experience, and everyone else's could be different than that, but like, I, I don't know why that video like, went so badly.

• 58:07Speaker 01

Well, I, it, there's so many factors, it, you know, the center card thing, to answer the question, I don't know what center card we'd have to use, or thumbnail, that would grab our audience, because I think if our audience is mostly focused on sports cars things, so it has to have a truck in it, right? There's gonna be a truck of some kind, that might not be their thing, so they're not gonna watch it. And then if they don't, if subscribers don't watch it, the algorithm goes, well, maybe we'll show this to a few people, but if the subscribers aren't watching it, it might just not be a good video, and then you're kinda dead.

• 58:37Matt Farah?

Yeah, and for us, it's a combination of things that don't actually usually perform that well. We wanted to go, because it was fun, we thought it would be fun, it was, and we wanted to go because we wanted to like, use our brain muscles and try to make like, a sort of Anthony Bourdain style video, knowing that it wouldn't do that well. We didn't know it would do as bad as it did, which I think is unjustifiably bad, frankly. Um, but motorsports coverage does poorly in general, off-roading outside of a very specific set of channels does poorly in general.

• 59:17Matt Farah?

For like, we, I don't know, there wa- it, that video was never on an, in, if we were making a cable show, everybody would love that episode and it would like, people would be like, "Ah, Emmy." Just relatively speaking. But like, in an on-demand world.

• 59:32Speaker 01

  Right.

• 59:33Matt Farah?

It doesn't, tho- tho- that kinda stuff will not hit. It just, it just can't.

• 59:37Speaker 01

I mean, actually, the questions we get asked here are a perfect example. The number of times we get asked about off-road stuff is 10% of questions, maybe less.

• 59:46Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 59:46Speaker 01

It's usually, "What sports car? What fun thing? What enthusiast vehicle?", etc., etc. So I think that's, that's indicative of what our audience is in- into.

• 59:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 59:59Matt Farah?

  Let's see.

• 1:00:03Matt Farah?

Bad Gardener says, "If you were to get some genie in a bottle, or whatever, that allowed you to swap garages with somebody, who would you do it with? Assume some degree of reality and maintenance, so we don't all pick Leno." So I can't say Ralph Lauren?

• 1:00:20Speaker 01

Well, I mean, the other person on, in my transaction's getting fucked, because they're getting one car, you know? I would trade places with Leah Blocks, I could have the unicorn in all of Ken's cars.

• 1:00:28Matt Farah?

That's a better one than my pick, yeah. Or who, who's the guy who just bought Bernie Ecclestone's entire collection?

• 1:00:35Speaker 01

  Ah, the Red Bull heir.

• 1:00:36Matt Farah?

Yeah, swap with that guy, yeah. Sawmill Expressway, that's, I think, three things, uh... No, it's two things, that's only two things. But he put Miller Lite in the middle of Sawmill Expressway, it's pretty good.

• 1:00:49Speaker 01

  What is Sawmill Expressway?

• 1:00:50Matt Farah?

It's a highway leading north out of New York City, where there used to be sawmills. Uh, it's actually a relatively nice little driving road, actually. Uh, "Do litter- little interior rattles bother you, or do you tune them out?" You know what's so funny? Depends whose car I'm in. If I'm in someone else's car, don't really give a shit. In my own car, it's the end of the world.

• 1:01:12Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:01:13Matt Farah?

Yeah. Tear the fucking interior out, find it, I don't care.

• 1:01:17Speaker 01

  Mine's getting a lot worse.

• 1:01:19Matt Farah?

Here's the thing, though, is, well, you've taken your interior apart so many times. That's why I try to minimize taking interiors apart. I really try to avoid that when possible.

• 1:01:30Matt Farah?

The uh ninety-five percent of the time when I'm trying to find a rattle, my like dealer dealer service advisors, whatever's like, did you take everything out of the car?

• 1:01:42Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:01:43Matt Farah?

And I go, yeah, they go, did you really, did you really take everything out of the car? Did you really look for everything? And finally, I go look again, I find something, rattle gone. Ninety-five percent of the time, it's the stuff.

• 1:01:54Speaker 01

It's always a pen in the door or something?

• 1:01:56Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's not, it's not the car, it's the stuff, yeah. Um, let's see, Andy in Colorado says, is there a better Macan replacement than another Macan? Uh, I mean, if you like the Macan, I don't think it has, does it, does a Macan have a real competitor? Right now, that's like, great? Um, I mean, you can go to a, you can go to an SQ5, those are fun, you can go to an X3, uh, X3M, those can be fun. Uh, the X3 is the only thing that BMW makes right now that I like aesthetically at all, really. I mean, you could go with a...

• 1:02:36Speaker 01

  Does Lexus have anything?

• 1:02:38Matt Farah?

You get a Taycan, I mean, if you, if that works for you, I don't know if it's Colorado, so maybe you might not like that so much, but like, I think a Taycan in the snow would be sweet.

• 1:02:48Speaker 01

I think Macan's really good, cause it also just is pretty restrained styling. I mean, the new one, I don't really like the new headlights they put on the EV and stuff, but I think for a long time, Porsche just kept their styling very restrained and smooth, and it's what I like versus what other car companies have done with all the angles.

• 1:03:03Matt Farah?

How about CPO Panamera wagon? Whatever the best version of that is that you can afford.

• 1:03:10Speaker 01

I mean, that's very cool, but I think Macan, to me, the ground clearance is beneficial for, you know, you wanted to go to the mountains for snow, or you want to go on a hike and park on a rocky parking lot, or whatever, it has all that option.

• 1:03:21Matt Farah?

Zwart's got a Panamera, he rocks it in the mountains.

• 1:03:25Speaker 01

That's true, he does, yeah, I don't know how smooth his road is, but...

• 1:03:28Matt Farah?

I think it's literal rally stage.

• 1:03:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:31Matt Farah?

To his house, I think it's a literal...

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

If it gets plowed, yeah, that's a good point.

• 1:03:35Matt Farah?

Yeah, I mean, maybe, maybe a Panamera wagon also, cause those are, I think dynamically a little better than a Macan, you know, but, but, yeah. Randy says, "Fuck, marry, kill, 1965 Ali Alfa Romeo, uh, Giulia SS BMW 2002." Did I say Romeo?

• 1:03:53Speaker 01

You did, it's great. Alfa Romeo.

• 1:03:56Matt Farah?

  Alfa Romeo.

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

  Copy.

• 1:03:58Matt Farah?

BMW, uh, Deuce double O Deuce and a Citroen SM.

• 1:04:04Speaker 01

Uh, I would marry the 2002. I would...

• 1:04:10Speaker 01

I would... I have never driven the Alfa, so I would kill the Alfa and I would fuck the SM 'cause it's a really fun... I drove one once and that's as much as I need to drive one and it's very special and memorable and that's it. And... 'cause the Alfa, the Alfa I think also looks weird.

• 1:04:25Matt Farah?

The Alfa does look weird, but I would, uh, I would marry the Alfa, fuck the Citroen and kill the BMW 2002.

• 1:04:36Speaker 01

  Wow!

• 1:04:36Matt Farah?

  I am not... I'm a 2002 hater.

• 1:04:38Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:04:38Matt Farah?

I drove that one that was like the, the best one that there could be. And it was so dogshit slow and unimpressive compared to even a modest 911 of the period.

• 1:04:53Speaker 01

Uh, that's true. And 2002s, as they got more expensive, they became less valuable, if you know what I mean.

• 1:04:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:00Speaker 01

That's a good point. Have you driven... Ali's car is pretty great.

• 1:05:02Matt Farah?

Ali's car has a fucking S54 like Evo engine in it and that is not a 2002. That is a race car.

• 1:05:11Speaker 01

It's a very comfortable race car.

• 1:05:12Matt Farah?

Like, that, that, if that car was in an E30, it would be the same car.

• 1:05:17Speaker 01

Well, I mean, I've driven Sam Smith's also, which is like a rust bucket with the absolutely stock engine.

• 1:05:21Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

And it is still like a friendly, fun thing. I just, maybe if I drove this Alfa, I would change my mind, but it just looks like a slightly better looking Carmen Gia. What, what engines under the hood, do you know?

• 1:05:31Matt Farah?

  A 16, 1.6 liter.

• 1:05:33Speaker 01

  That's not gonna be fast.

• 1:05:34Matt Farah?

  Dual overhead cam.

• 1:05:36Speaker 01

That's not gonna be fast either.

• 1:05:37Matt Farah?

That shit probably weighs like 1,400 pounds.

• 1:05:40Speaker 01

  That's probably true.

• 1:05:41Matt Farah?

And it's eligible for like, you know, like the Colorado Grand and stuff.

• 1:05:45Speaker 01

Especially Ali, let's see, what does it weigh?

• 1:05:46Matt Farah?

Eligible for like vintage rallying, like a Boss.

• 1:05:49Speaker 01

  Uh, it weighs 2,300 pounds.

• 1:05:51Matt Farah?

Okay, so it's still pretty light.

• 1:05:53Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:05:55Speaker 01

Interesting. I like that we had very different choices.

• 1:05:57Matt Farah?

Piggly Wiggly Deluxe says, "The Lamborghini Diablo's have that hideous passenger airbag sticking out of the dash. What is the ugliest required interior feature of any car you've seen?" That's pretty funny. I mean, early 90's airbag steering wheels across the board were real bad.

• 1:06:17Speaker 01

Yeah, it looked like a lunchbox was glued to your steering wheel. There's this huge prominent...

• 1:06:20Matt Farah?

Yeah, just fucking... Yeah, the passenger airbag in the Diablo was bad, but it was not...go down, that's the original, there it is.

• 1:06:30Speaker 01

  Holy moly.

• 1:06:31Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's got a big old tumor on it.

• 1:06:34Speaker 01

You could put a lunch tray on that, and it would not fall down. No joke.

• 1:06:38Matt Farah?

I think you're supposed to put a mirror on it, and it doesn't fall down.

• 1:06:41Speaker 01

Also, I mean, that is a foot deep. That's crazy.

• 1:06:44Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's really crazy. That is not as bad, actually, if we're talking about bad features, as the 1991 Lamborghini Diablo gauge cluster, also referred to as the double-decker gauge cluster. And when you see it, you can't unsee it.

• 1:07:01Speaker 01

  That's terrible.

• 1:07:03Matt Farah?

The second picture from the right gives you...oh yeah, any of those really give you a good looksee.

• 1:07:08Speaker 01

  Geez.

• 1:07:09Matt Farah?

A good looksee at the original Diablo gauge cluster, which is why people still don't really like 91's, even though that usually...usually it's like the early car, the pure car, the pure design. When it comes to a 91 Diablo, people are like, "Nah."

• 1:07:26Speaker 01

I feel like, yeah, two people that worked on the interior department got in a fight, and for some reason, they both won.

• 1:07:32Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:33Speaker 01

  This is...it's so much gauge.

• 1:07:35Matt Farah?

  It's so high.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

It is so prominent above the dashboard. I mean, this thing extends like a foot above the dash slope.

• 1:07:42Matt Farah?

  It's so silly.

• 1:07:43Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:07:44Matt Farah?

Like, it's like someone had contracted Lamborghini to build like the mail trucks for northern Italy, and they had already designed a gauge cluster for that, and they were like, "Yeah, we'll just do that."

• 1:07:56Speaker 01

I think the gauge salesman had dirt on whoever designed it. This is really one of the worst things I've ever seen.

• 1:08:01Matt Farah?

Yeah. I mean, I would truly like...

• 1:08:05Matt Farah?

You know, if I wanted a 91, because 91s are really raw, they're rear-wheel drive, you know, 90, um, and they're, they're very much like late Countaches underneath. And some people love that, no power steering, you know, really raw. Um, and some people are really into that. But even if I was, I would absolutely get the 1994 Dash from somewhere and fucking put it in there, because this is just brutal.

• 1:08:31Speaker 01

  Yep, terrible.

• 1:08:32Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:32Speaker 01

  It impedes your vision.

• 1:08:34Matt Farah?

  It's so bad.

• 1:08:35Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:08:36Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:36Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:08:37Matt Farah?

Yeah. And so when people talk about Diablo's being undervalued, some of it is a little justified, because that's fucking awful. Uh, but to answer the question, I mean, is, the, the airbag, uh, is bad. Um, the, the US power seat belts of the late 80s is pretty bad.

• 1:08:55Speaker 01

I didn't mind those that much.

• 1:08:56Matt Farah?

  You, huh?

• 1:08:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:08:57Matt Farah?

  You were into that?

• 1:08:57Speaker 01

I just, I just didn't care, because once it went, and it's out of my field of view, versus that gauge cluster is always in my field of view.

• 1:09:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:04Speaker 01

  And terrible.

• 1:09:05Matt Farah?

You ever see an F40 with those power seat belts?

• 1:09:07Speaker 01

  No, that's weird, though.

• 1:09:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:08Speaker 01

That seems like two generations intersecting.

• 1:09:10Matt Farah?

They, yeah, they, they made them do it. That, the Testa Rosa downstairs has them.

• 1:09:14Speaker 01

  Oh, it does?

• 1:09:15Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's got power seat belts? Yeah. It's fucking crazy. I'm pretty su- sure Ferrari has a retrofit to take those out.

• 1:09:23Speaker 01

  Probably.

• 1:09:23Matt Farah?

If you want to take those shits out. I, I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all the F40s by now have had them taken out.

• 1:09:29Speaker 01

Oh, I would, I would say the, uh, the Tesla Model S's steering wheel is my least favorite interior feature.

• 1:09:34Matt Farah?

  Oh, the yoke.

• 1:09:35Speaker 01

  The yoke.

• 1:09:35Matt Farah?

  The yoke is really.

• 1:09:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:09:37Matt Farah?

Really, really bad. Not only just aesthetically and functionally, but also what it is clearly designed to like implicate is about to happen and is so clearly not, which is self-driving and or.

• 1:09:49Speaker 01

Yeah, or that, and it's also like, ah, it's like a fighter jet, but it's not, it's like a heavy car with not enough brake.

• 1:09:55Matt Farah?

  Franz Hermann.

• 1:09:57Speaker 01

  That's funny.

• 1:09:58Matt Farah?

How would you like to see the Camaro come back in the future? I'd love to see, okay, all right, all right. How about a retro future version of the IROC?

• 1:10:13Matt Farah?

Can we do that? Because for the last 15 years, the Camaro has been on this retro future version of the 60s thing. But like, let's, let's kick that formula into a more like contemporary generation. Like Hyundai with that N70, whatever the fuck concept that looks like an 80s car. Like, let's go with an IROC Camaro type of vibe, right? With a black, a black wing powertrain? And what did your, your facial expression told me that like?

• 1:10:45Speaker 01

  Oh, well, so Franz Hermann-

• 1:10:46Matt Farah?

Am I about to get divorced?

• 1:10:47Speaker 01

No, that was, that was the fake name that Max Verstappen used when he did a Nürburgring test recently.

• 1:10:51Matt Farah?

  Oh, right, yeah, yeah.

• 1:10:52Speaker 01

So that name's funny. So I typed it in. But also, someone named Hermann Franz, same spelling but flipped, was a high-ranking officer in the Nazi, uh, party.

• 1:11:00Matt Farah?

  Uh, cool.

• 1:11:02Speaker 01

So I'm wondering, like, Max, did you, how did Max come up with this name? Um, that's why my face, I went, huh, I wonder, but, but, I'm just, we'll go on faith, I'm sure that our user here was just making a joke about Max. So it's nice to have Max Verstappen asking the smoking tire questions, is what I'm saying.

• 1:11:19Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, Nice Cam says, what's the most beautiful car on sale right now and why is it the new Vanquish? I, you know, I actually have, I still haven't actually seen the Vanquish in person yet. I'm, we're supposed to drive it in three weeks, but I, I haven't seen one yet. The most beautiful car on sale right now.

• 1:11:40Speaker 01

What if I, mm, 296, pretty stunning.

• 1:11:46Matt Farah?

  296s are very pretty.

• 1:11:48Speaker 01

  Uh...

• 1:11:49Matt Farah?

  Uh, the-

• 1:11:52Speaker 01

  It's a cheaper car.

• 1:11:53Matt Farah?

  The, hmm.

• 1:11:55Speaker 01

Well, is the Spyder still for sale? Are they still selling that?

• 1:11:59Matt Farah?

You can still get a 718 Spyder.

• 1:12:01Speaker 01

I mean, not to, I'm not trying to kiss your ass, like, when I, it's a really good-looking car.

• 1:12:06Matt Farah?

It is a very good, good car.

• 1:12:07Speaker 01

  It's a very good-looking car.

• 1:12:08Matt Farah?

Yeah, you don't, you're not kissing my ass. I didn't design that motherfucker.

• 1:12:10Speaker 01

  That's a really good-looking car.

• 1:12:11Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:12Speaker 01

  From pretty much all angles.

• 1:12:14Matt Farah?

  The-

• 1:12:15Speaker 01

Cause I think, I think the Astons are, they're better looking, but because they have so much engine, the front mouth now is humongous, cause they have to cool down these turbos and everything, so I think that's a little bit big.

• 1:12:28Matt Farah?

Yeah, I'd like to say like a McLaren 750, but I don't think it's actually that quote beautiful. I just love how it drives so much that I don't even care how it looks. I mean, it looks great, but I don't, I'm trying to think of what like, uh, I mean, it's not fair, but like, maybe, maybe like the Singer, uh, that new Singer like Carrera thing is, is pretty slick.

• 1:12:57Speaker 01

  Yeah, I agree.

• 1:13:00Matt Farah?

That roof, the roof SCR that we drove or CTRs, I mean, those are incredibly clean and beautiful.

• 1:13:08Speaker 01

That, yeah, and they're, they're technically an OEM. We're seeing it as just a restoration shop.

• 1:13:13Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:13:14Speaker 01

That's a tough call. Well, they brought Vanquish, so they're going expensive anyway, so we can go expensive.

• 1:13:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, well, I mean, the most beautiful car on sale is always going to be something expensive. Curves cost money.

• 1:13:25Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 1:13:26Matt Farah?

They do. They literally, curves literally cost money.

• 1:13:29Speaker 01

Yeah, the machinery is more expensive.

• 1:13:32Matt Farah?

I'm gonna revisit that after we go to the Quail this year and see, see what is happening. Oh, speaking of which, you know, we're gonna get to drive, you know, the Evoluto 355. We're gonna get it for a week.

• 1:13:44Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:13:44Matt Farah?

  After Pebble, yeah.

• 1:13:45Speaker 01

  Holy shit.

• 1:13:46Matt Farah?

It's gonna be shown at Quail, because they were trying to fly me to Scotland to drive it and blah, blah, blah. It didn't work out. You know, it's, it's, it's our, it's our two, our friends over there, um, you know, um, Amjad, who was, who was a higher up at Gunther, and, uh, and Rob, who was the, the, the PR person at Lotus, who we worked with when we went to Goodwood. And so, you know, they trust us with the car and whatever. So, um, we got somewhere safe to keep it.

• 1:14:12Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 1:14:13Matt Farah?

So they're gonna, yeah, they're gonna leave it for this for a week.

• 1:14:15Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:14:15Matt Farah?

  It's a right-hand drive car.

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

  Sure, whatever.

• 1:14:19Speaker 01

  I gotta practice.

• 1:14:20Matt Farah?

I'm pretty sure it's, it, well, I don't know, they might have another one. Now that, now that I think about it, it's possible there's another one.

• 1:14:25Speaker 01

  I'll be shifting slowly.

• 1:14:26Matt Farah?

  One, but you could.

• 1:14:29Speaker 01

I have, but the last time I drove a right-hand drive car.

• 1:14:32Matt Farah?

  Was the Focus RS in.

• 1:14:33Speaker 01

  I think it was that.

• 1:14:34Matt Farah?

  In England, really?

• 1:14:35Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 1:14:36Matt Farah?

  Ooh.

• 1:14:36Speaker 01

The manual, the last one? I think so.

• 1:14:39Matt Farah?

You have to practice on the NSXR downstairs, just get it back, you know?

• 1:14:42Speaker 01

Yeah, that seems like a safe, inexpensive idea.

• 1:14:46Matt Farah?

Jared says, "Just did my first track day with my 86 through the Toyota HPDE thing." Okay, cool. "Everything went great until lap two, when a guy put a car into the wall." Woof. "Apparently turned off all traction and stability control functions." "Everyone says eventually you will need to turn them off to really drive the car properly yourself."

• 1:15:10Matt Farah?

"Two related questions." "I didn't notice or feel traction control kicking in throughout the day." "Without being able to notice when it does, how do you know when you've gotten to the point where it's time to turn it off?" Okay, that's a good question.

• 1:15:26Matt Farah?

And two, actually, should we answer, let's answer the first one first. I mean, I think if traction control didn't kick in throughout the day, then you did your first track day properly.

• 1:15:37Speaker 01

  Yes, correct.

• 1:15:38Matt Farah?

You really shouldn't be getting into the traction control too much in your very first track day.

• 1:15:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:44Matt Farah?

If you're smooth with your inputs, and rolling onto the power, and hitting your apex and cornering points, in a car like that, now lap two, could have been cold that morning. You know, lap two is, that's when, lap two could be cold track, cold tires, cold driver.

• 1:16:03Speaker 01

  Cold driver, but bold driver.

• 1:16:05Matt Farah?

Yeah, lap, lap two is when people crash.

• 1:16:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:08Matt Farah?

The first lap is a sighting lap, and the second lap is, "I fucking got this."

• 1:16:12Speaker 01

Exactly, and they think they know, especially if they're new to the track, and they think they know where the track goes, and then they get a, "Oops, it actually turns left instead of right."

• 1:16:18Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:16:19Speaker 01

There's so many things that could go wrong there.

• 1:16:21Matt Farah?

But, your first track day, leave the shit on, and if it's not kicking in, you're probably driving properly.

• 1:16:27Speaker 01

Yeah, especially with, modern traction control is much more sophisticated. Like, my car's traction control, the light was coming on in the Canyon because it's from 2002.

• 1:16:36Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:37Speaker 01

I was not sliding, I was not slipping or anything, it was just the computer detected a rate of speed with the wheel turned, and it wasn't accounting for grippy tires. But these things, like a new 86, I mean, and you also have like a sport mode option. You can turn it on medium, and then it'll give you a little bit of slip. But in the beginning, just keep it turned on and if you drive smoothly, like you said, you shouldn't see any of those lights popping on. You just work on your technique.

• 1:16:59Matt Farah?

Yeah. Now, eventually, you will start driving fast enough, once you're comfortable doing that, that you will hit the limit of that and it will start, you'll know, because a light will flash at you and you will feel some level of power being pulled from the car. And number two question was, I asked the instructors about how to know you're at the limit of grip for the tires. They said, you'll hear a difference in the noise. It goes from "errrr" to "errrrrrrr" and that's when you're out of grip. Can you give a more elaborate explanation? That's certainly what, they're not wrong.

• 1:17:35Speaker 01

They're not, yeah. I like that impression, too.

• 1:17:38Matt Farah?

It's a pretty funny thing to say and they, not wrong. I mean, basically, like, if your car is understeering or oversteering, meaning it's not pointed exactly where you want it for one reason or another, either it's pointed too much in or too much out, you are out of grip.

• 1:17:58Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:17:59Matt Farah?

So, when your input doesn't match the direction of travel of your car perfectly, you've hit the limit.

• 1:18:06Speaker 01

Yeah. I mean, the most common thing is understeer, where you are, you're trying to go through a corner, you're hearing louder and louder tire noise, with most tires, some tires are quieter than others, so you can't 100% rely on that, but you're having to can add more and more steering wheel and the car is still not turning more towards your objective. So that's when you're understeering and that's how you know.

• 1:18:25Matt Farah?

Yeah. And, and, and a lot of times, especially if, if you're hearing that noise, but you're not getting into the traction control, you're understeering, not oversteering.

• 1:18:37Speaker 01

  Yeah, good point.

• 1:18:38Matt Farah?

And you're getting just enough, as you're coming out of the corner, you'll notice that that car is continuing to want to go more straight and you're trying to fight it to go down the straightaway. You're, that's too much throttle too early and, and that's what that sound is. But basically, if the car's not pointed... For either too much in or too much out, not pointing exactly where you want it, you are past the limit of grip. And you can do a variety of things to get back within that limit of grip. Usually, you start by slowing down a little bit.

• 1:19:08Speaker 01

Yeah, and with oversteer, their impression of sound is pretty accurate. Because like, a little slip or even a drift is a certain tone. But as it gets louder, it's usually right when you're about to lose it.

• 1:19:19Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's, yeah.

• 1:19:21Speaker 01

  It goes

• 1:19:23Matt Farah?

If you're leaving traction control on in a car with 230 horsepower, it is unlikely that you're going to get too much accidental oversteer.

• 1:19:31Speaker 01

Very true, for more than half a second, and then it'll correct it for you, yeah.

• 1:19:35Matt Farah?

Cameron wants a unique daily driver that can double as a work vehicle for my aviation detailing business in LA, Orange County. Okay, I don't need much space, just room for some equipment and a collapsible ladder. No water tank, I'm open to trucks, wagons, or midsize SUVs. Something that feels more unique and special than my current Q5. I do my own wrenching, 15 to 20K. Cameron, I absolutely respect what you're trying to do here. I can't recommend this enough. Buy a fucking commercial van. Whether that's a Transit or like a Transit Connect. Or like, like, your life, I know people who have done this. My trainer is one.

• 1:20:17Matt Farah?

My trainer recently, shout out to him, @FitLikeSean on Instagram. He comes to you, if you're in LA, he's fucking great. Yeah, and he has a gym in a van. And I fortunately have most of my own equipment. But he could train you in the park, or on the beach, or in a fucking apartment complex, or whatever. And he, when I first started working out with him, had a Toyota Sienna minivan. And six months ago, he got a Transit. And his fucking workflow and life and all changed. And, uh, and, and having been in sort of adjacent to the mobile detailing business in the past, trust me, get a work vehicle. Like, it's for that.

• 1:20:58Matt Farah?

Having said that, assuming you've already thought about all this and, and don't want that. An interesting vehicle for 15 to 20K. What does that get you in the world of interesting?

• 1:21:14Speaker 01

It might be tough. A Volvo wagon, I think, would be very cool, especially like a V60, if it has enough space. To me, for some reason, it's a sophisticated car lends itself to aviation stuff. It's stylish, it's comfortable, it rides really nice, all that, all those things. But 20 grand used, it's gonna be very high mileage. So that might be tough.

• 1:21:36Matt Farah?

  A Mercedes 300D wagon.

• 1:21:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:40Matt Farah?

  Like 90's Mercedes wagons.

• 1:21:45Matt Farah?

Man, other than like CTSVs and like really fast wagons, there aren't a lot of like great wagons.

• 1:21:52Speaker 01

  Well, especially 15 to 20.

• 1:21:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:54Speaker 01

That's not, I mean, you get like an Acura, what was it, a TLX wagon they sold for a little bit.

• 1:21:59Matt Farah?

But no one's gonna look at that and go, wow, that's a unique vehicle.

• 1:22:02Speaker 01

  I will.

• 1:22:05Speaker 01

  No, that's, that's true.

• 1:22:06Matt Farah?

  Going with money.

• 1:22:06Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I mean, if you're trying to impress your clientele, it'd be really hard for this money unless you go old, like E30 wagon, or you go E46 wagon. I mean, that's a nice car, but it's kinda tight inside, depending on how much room you have.

• 1:22:20Matt Farah?

  I mean, how about the...

• 1:22:21Speaker 01

  How much room you need.

• 1:22:21Matt Farah?

20K might get you a Lightning, a second gen Lightning pickup truck.

• 1:22:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:22:28Matt Farah?

Might get you an SRT10 Ram. Not a great one, but...

• 1:22:31Speaker 01

  Dodge Magnum.

• 1:22:32Matt Farah?

  It'll get you a Magnum.

• 1:22:33Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 1:22:33Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:34Speaker 01

  Those are cool.

• 1:22:35Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:36Speaker 01

I like those things a lot.

• 1:22:38Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:40Matt Farah?

It's not much money, though, to get something cool to daily...

• 1:22:43Speaker 01

  It's not.

• 1:22:44Matt Farah?

A commute in California and, and as a work, like almost as a commercial vehicle, man.

• 1:22:49Speaker 01

So it needs a lot of space inside, because some of these wagons we've mentioned, the interior space, while big for a sedan...

• 1:22:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:55Speaker 01

Is not that huge. If you're putting like tall machinery in there of some kind, it's gonna be a pain in the ass versus just using a Transit.

• 1:23:05Matt Farah?

Uh oh. Oh, it's a cat question. I don't, I without, I can't answer that question without seeing what they're talking about. I'm sorry to say. Um, oh, more fuck, marry, kill, find just the Tiptronic. Lando Norris's personal collection, Miura Carrera GT F40.

• 1:23:23Speaker 01

Well, I've only, I've never driven any of these, so that, just, just to clarify, but.

• 1:23:28Matt Farah?

But now you know you can fit in an F40.

• 1:23:30Speaker 01

  I can.

• 1:23:30Matt Farah?

And now I know that I can fit in an F40 because Fat Matt could not fit in an F40.

• 1:23:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:23:34Matt Farah?

  And now I can.

• 1:23:35Speaker 01

I'm actually surprised because my hair touched the roof. So was your head on the roof?

• 1:23:38Matt Farah?

  Yep.

• 1:23:39Speaker 01

So you gotta drop the seat somehow.

• 1:23:40Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:23:40Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:23:41Matt Farah?

That's okay. I don't mind that. But I could physically, I couldn't get in it back in the day because of that carbon sill they put on the side. And now I can.

• 1:23:47Speaker 01

  The big sill.

• 1:23:47Matt Farah?

I could even put the car in, uh, first and reverse.

• 1:23:50Speaker 01

I might get hate for this, but I think I'd marry the GT and fuck the F40 and kill the Miura.

• 1:23:56Matt Farah?

That's fine. I would, uh, marry the F40, fuck the GT and kill the Miura. Uh, Mira's are beautiful, but they don't do it for me personally. Uh, hmm. Okay, wait. Oh, a, okay, this is, um, I've never heard that, this phrase used before, but I think I know what Timmy means. Can you share insight on what makes a good or bad, quote, communication spec? That an OEM chooses to use in marketing materials. Is he saying what makes a good press car?

• 1:24:29Speaker 01

  I think so.

• 1:24:29Matt Farah?

What makes a good press car? Got it. Um, a, a bright, memorable color that is flashy, uh, photographs well, shows the curve of the cars well and, but is not, uh, sort of out of line with the brand. I think Bentley does a pretty good job of that with some of their oranges. Rolls Royce sometimes nails it and sometimes goes too far, like with that crazy watermelon car I drove. The green, um, Spectre that was watermelon. Um, you know, you want them to have plenty of options because you want to be able for the journalists to test and use the options.

• 1:25:09Matt Farah?

Uh, but you don't want to spec them high enough that people are like, holy shit, a hundred and forty thousand dollars. What the fuck? You know? Um, it's more important that the car has the functional options than all the cosmetic ones. But you know, you want, they want it to look good, so they're gonna, they're gonna load it up. It's gonna be photographed, right?

• 1:25:30Matt Farah?

And are there some all-time great press car specs that you permanently associate with a car?

• 1:25:39Matt Farah?

Uh, I don't know. I don't, I would say no, because once you start to see them all in all different colors and stuff at all. I mean, there's cars I'll see later, like now, where there's kind of a funny color and it wasn't done like great. And you go, oh, that's the launch color. Remember like the yellow SLK Mercedes? Oh, yeah. Or, um, there's like a weird like, like highlighter green for like the Kia Niro or something like. Audi did that, didn't they? Also like a really bright green. Yeah, Audi's had some crazy, like the Audi S3 and the launch of the Python green and the RS3. I actually don't mind on the Audis as much, but some, sometimes it's like, uh. But usually, once you start seeing the cars in all the other colors, it does, you don't permanently associate with that.

• 1:26:22Matt Farah?

Yeah. I think, I remember this is 2016 and we had a 911 Carrera S in yellow and it had a lot of yellow accents inside. Yeah, black and yellow. Which like highlights, here's what you can change. And that was a very effective way to point out. Way of doing that, yeah.

• 1:26:38Matt Farah?

There are some like special editions liveries that aren't necessarily press cars, like the 40th anniversary Murcielago with the, the sort of teal they did or stuff like that. The Momo colored purple, the Diablo SE30 purples and the Momos, like, stuff like that, but that's not like a launch spec.

• 1:26:57Matt Farah?

Now, a lot of these companies, I mean Volkswagen did it, Bentley did it, um, we just had some other car that had a first edition or launch edition, which is just a collection of fucking 50 grand in options. Yeah, and it's basically like, oh, you're getting one of the first ones, it's gonna cost a lot. Did you, there was a story this morning, Bentley and Lamborghini represent 1% of VAG volume by vehicle and 60% of their profit margins. Whoa. 1 to 60. Yeah.

• 1:27:28Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:27:29Matt Farah?

That's how, that's how much money they're making because you got the Performante.

• 1:27:33Speaker 01

That's how much profit is in those cars.

• 1:27:35Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:36Speaker 01

And how little profit is in a Passat.

• 1:27:38Matt Farah?

  Uh huh.

• 1:27:39Speaker 01

  Whoa.

• 1:27:40Matt Farah?

  Uh huh.

• 1:27:41Speaker 01

What a conversion. Wow. So when you go to your dealership and you say, can you work on the price and they say no? And you're buying a Bentley, you'd be like, actually, you fucking can.

• 1:27:50Matt Farah?

Yeah. Uh, do the weird thing, uh, says qualifying at Monaco is such a spectacle. And then I will add in that the racing at Monaco proceeds to suck. And that's, the cars are too big.

• 1:28:01Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:28:01Matt Farah?

Right? So they can't pass, you know, and I would like to see them. Like, I would like to turn Monaco into a vintage race. Or a spec race, you know, in some, you know, Formula Junior or some shit.

• 1:28:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:28:17Matt Farah?

Whatever, tiny little, yeah, F3 car. And, you know, spec cars prepared by the FIA. You know, you draw a lottery and it counts for points. You put delivery on the car, you know, it look, you make it look like their car.

• 1:28:30Speaker 01

  I like their idea.

• 1:28:32Matt Farah?

But like, I get why they have it. It makes total sense. It makes a ton of money. It's beautiful. It's a fucking party. Nobody wants to get rid of it. But also the racing sucks. So like, how do you fix that?

• 1:28:44Speaker 01

Yeah. Uh, I mean, and, and do the weird thing went on, maybe the F1 should make it a weekend time trial with points at stake. I don't think they would do that because it, because then you're just having a qualifying, you know, and then you're just qualifying and then qualifying.

• 1:28:57Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:58Speaker 01

You have to have, you have to have people doing wheel to wheel stuff, but the problem is the cars are too big. The track hasn't grown. And yet it's such a pedestal on the calendar, like, I mean, they got rid of Spa. I guess they might remove Imola for a couple of seasons and they're going to keep Monaco. So they know it. They know that the fans don't like it. And they're keeping it because it's such an institution, which is such a weird thing.

• 1:29:21Matt Farah?

That's amazing. That's usually, usually America does stuff like that.

• 1:29:25Speaker 01

It's just like, you know, they got, like, Imola had, I mean, Imola hasn't turned out a really great race, but at least there's more room. But Monaco hasn't turned out a good race.

• 1:29:33Matt Farah?

  In a very long time.

• 1:29:34Speaker 01

  In like a decade.

• 1:29:34Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:34Speaker 01

You know, but they just keep it there because I think the people that financed the racing want to sit on their yacht.

• 1:29:40Matt Farah?

  Everybody wants the party.

• 1:29:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:29:42Matt Farah?

Yeah. I mean, everybody wants, and maybe there's some. I mean, there maybe there's another other financial benefits such as tax things or whatever. I don't know. I'm literally throwing something at the wall because I have a microphone in front of my face. Like, I don't know anything about fucking anything. But the race, yeah, there was not one pass, right? Not one, not one actual on-track pass.

• 1:30:07Speaker 01

I think there was none that were legal. And because George, you know, George Russell passed on the infield, which is very funny. Couple of people hit each other. But even with the two-stop thing, it didn't really change the order. Qualifying was exciting. It was really tight. And shout out to Norris for doing what he did and finally converting pole position into a win. But, yeah, you just, you can't do anything there.

• 1:30:27Matt Farah?

I think it should, I think they should race little-ass formula cars, or like karts, like shifter karts or something. It would be fucking cool.

• 1:30:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:30:34Matt Farah?

They all love karting. Make it a kart race. You know, grudge match. Uh, let's see. Chris Chin, Jimmy Foot. Don't get it, but let's go with it. Uh, 2011 Evora S with low miles just sold on bat for 50. A comparable Evora 400 is roughly 15K more, and an Evora GT from 2020 is about 25K more. Which one would be the best value?

• 1:31:00Matt Farah?

For me, I'm gonna go with 400. The 400 to the GT is a very, very incremental difference in dynamics. And it's really just that changed front end and stuff. There's not a lot of real differences between those two. The difference from an S to a 400 is significant, and probably worth the 15, because you'd get more on the back end as well.

• 1:31:25Matt Farah?

But these have, I mean, 50 for an S is like, it's not the floor, but like, it's basically the floor. Like, the ones that are below 50 grand Evoras are like, kind of shitters. Like, the good ones, like an Elise, the floor is 35. An Xige, the floor is probably 48. And an Evora, a base Evora, the floor is like, in the 40s. An S, the floor is like, pretty much 50. Although low miles, maybe it would go down a little more. But Lotuses are immune from miles. Toyota-powered Lotuses. They're basically immune from miles at the floor. They go down the floor and then they just stay there. And then it's just like, does it have oil in it? Has it been crashed? No? Yes, no? Okay, cool, you know?

• 1:32:12Matt Farah?

  All right.

• 1:32:15Matt Farah?

Uh, your mom drives a stick said most new M5 reviews focus on the car's weight and its comparisons to a predecessor, but the fact that we get a wagon now opens the car up to more buyers. Uh, isn't its place versus the RS6 E53 AMG wagon and the sporty SUVs much more pertinent? I mean, I don't, I don't think the, the, much of the weight comes from it being a wagon. I think it comes from it being an all-wheel-drive hybrid with all kinds of tech and electric range and all, and all kinds of stuff like that. So it's not, you're, you're making an A to B comparison that isn't an A to B comparison.

• 1:32:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:32:59Matt Farah?

They could have made a fully internal combustion.

• 1:33:01Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:33:02Matt Farah?

  Wagon if they wanted to.

• 1:33:03Speaker 01

Right. The RS6 weighs 4982 pounds, so 5,000 pounds and the new M5 is 5,400, I think for the sedan.

• 1:33:11Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:33:12Speaker 01

The wagon's probably even more. So 400 pounds, I mean, percentage-wise, isn't a huge difference, no pun intended, but it is a significantly heavy car. And yeah, you're not comparing the same thing. Like, you're very excited about wagons, I get that. And it's cool that we now have an M5 wagon competing with these other awesome wagons. But people's main complaint is not remedied. You know, you can go, well, I'm stoked it has a wagon, but it's just not the same.

• 1:33:36Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, the, the thing is, like, I haven't, I haven't driven, um, the new M5 wagon, but I've driven the, um, the E63 wagon, the outgoing one. That was pretty good. The RS6 is, in my opinion, not that great. I mean, it's, it's func-, it looks beautiful, uh, it does what it's supposed to do, but I find it to be very forgettable. And everyone I know who's owned one, just five or six of my clients have owned them, they don't own them for long. They get bored of them really, really fast. Unless you're like in Germany, actually going 200 mile an hour in these cars, they're not that interesting to drive. They just happen to be very, very fast.

• 1:34:19Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:34:19Matt Farah?

And so I think the complaint that we're getting is the heavier and faster.

• 1:34:26Matt Farah?

And more techie that a car gets, it just contributes to a cycle of ever more contribu-, you know, and, and you, and it just seems that all cars are just going that way. So, you know, to see BMW take such a big leap that way, that almost leapfrogs the other cars, is, uh, is sad because weight is objectively bad, even if you have very good technology. Right? Mm-hmm. Um. This is the last page. Okay. Uh, Auto X faded. Whatever happened to Wheelwell? I don't know, man. That, that thing was probably shut down. Auto Cross faded? That's very funny. Oh, Auto Cross faded? Yeah. Yeah, got it, got it.

• 1:35:11Matt Farah?

Uh, Steadfast update on the NSX? Uh, don't really have one. It got serviced, uh, back in March, annual service. Oil was clean, everything was fine, filters, everything great, um, brake pads, everything checked out, it was fine. And I haven't driven it very much, um, because I've been busy this summer. I'm going to drive it when I get back from Italy. Ryan Morris says, wait, oh, oh, how would you rank the generations of Mustang?

• 1:35:42Matt Farah?

Uh, there's, there's so many of them. I, we, that, that's like a, that's like a 25-minute topic. We can do that as a larger topic later. There's like eight generations of Mustang or nine. There's a lot. Yeah. Um. I don't know, I, I don't know offhand what Bush did 997's question means. We'd have to look that one up. Oh. Uh, Klapman's freshman dorm bed says, "I'm considering a local E30 with a blown motor as a project car. Well done, S54 swaps seem excellent. What other engines would be good in an E30?" Dude, all, any bigger, more powerful BMW inline-six pretty much works. I mean, up to a point, right?

• 1:36:21Matt Farah?

Like you can put like an S52 or an M50 or an M like you can put like any later three series engine really up to like an E46 engine in an E30 and it would be fine and good.

• 1:36:34Speaker 01

Yeah, the new hotness is the K swap, but I've heard like our friend Art has one that's kind of being built and refined and it's pretty buzzy. People like it because it shifts the weight balance back versus if you have the traditional inline six.

• 1:36:46Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:36:46Speaker 01

But it just has different harmonics and things. So I think that is like the new thing that's being figured out. Um, because you don't want to put, like I wouldn't want to put more weight over the nose or bring that weight forward or anything like that.

• 1:36:59Matt Farah?

Yeah, but I'm comfortable with the stock weight.

• 1:37:01Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 1:37:01Matt Farah?

You know, and another BMW inline six isn't going to drastically shove the weight forward versus an E30's iron block fucking whatever inline six.

• 1:37:11Speaker 01

Uh, very good point. I was thinking E30 M3 versus.

• 1:37:14Matt Farah?

Oh, if it's a, yeah, no, a regular six cylinder one like I, I don't know. I'd like to keep that car six cylinder.

• 1:37:20Speaker 01

You know, be sick if it fit is one UZ.

• 1:37:23Matt Farah?

Yes. You know what else would be sick? The BMW K1600 six cylinder engine from the motorcycle.

• 1:37:30Speaker 01

Oh, that would be very interesting.

• 1:37:31Matt Farah?

1.6 liter inline six that revs to like 11.

• 1:37:35Speaker 01

How much power does it make?

• 1:37:35Matt Farah?

I don't know. Look it up. BMW K1600. Yeah. It's in a bike. It's a transversa inline six, 1.6 liter.

• 1:37:45Speaker 01

  160 horsepower?

• 1:37:46Matt Farah?

Yeah. I mean, that's, that's more than any stock E30. No, it's not true.

• 1:37:51Speaker 01

  It's pretty close.

• 1:37:52Matt Farah?

That's how much, what does a stock E30 M3 make?

• 1:37:55Speaker 01

  Oh, E30 M3 or?

• 1:37:56Matt Farah?

That might've been 200, maybe. But 160 horsepower revving out fucking revving out to like 11? That's, that could be pretty cool.

• 1:38:07Speaker 01

All right. E30 M3 made 192 horsepower. So that's a little more. Um, but what is like, like a 92 325 IS make?

• 1:38:16Matt Farah?

  It's probably like 150, 160 something.

• 1:38:19Speaker 01

  Got that nice torque though.

• 1:38:20Matt Farah?

  Mm hmm.

• 1:38:21Speaker 01

  189?

• 1:38:22Matt Farah?

  Ooh, all right.

• 1:38:25Speaker 01

Wow, that's pretty good. Um, oh, so the Brabham and Chapparal question. So those are both fan cars.

• 1:38:31Matt Farah?

  Oh.

• 1:38:32Speaker 01

Those are from the fan years of F1.

• 1:38:34Matt Farah?

  Ah.

• 1:38:35Speaker 01

And, um, I will show you, they look very different. And I'm sure we would both die.

• 1:38:41Matt Farah?

We have the Gordon Murray designed Brabham BT46. Oh yeah, okay, this one I know, the red Parmalot car, right.

• 1:38:49Speaker 01

So there's that one and there's this crazy thing, remember this?

• 1:38:51Matt Farah?

Oh, yes, okay. I don't, I don't, this fucking, I know this Chapparal thing works, but god, it's that ugly. Yeah. Fucking doorstop thing.

• 1:39:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, terrifying.

• 1:39:01Matt Farah?

Yeah, not a good looking car. I'll take Gordon Murray's design, that's a very pretty car.

• 1:39:05Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 1:39:06Matt Farah?

  Yeah, all day.

• 1:39:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:39:07Matt Farah?

Good question. Now I know what the fuck I'm talking about. Uh, last one. Uh, watch the Living with the GTS video. That's our new 992.2 video. It's up on our channel right now. Um, and, uh, yeah, I already did the, the, the video from the launch with the racetrack and the mountains and blah, blah. So instead, this time I did 600 miles in the 992 GTS hybrid and I made a video talking about what that was like. And actually, I thought differently about the car after the end of that week than I thought after coming back from the launch. So that's a fun thing and go watch that. Um, how easy is it to tune these cars? I have absolutely no fucking idea.

• 1:39:51Matt Farah?

Um, Mitch McKee of M Engineering has some ideas of how to do it. Um, I don't know if one has been done yet. It's certainly going to be more complicated than, um, a regular car, but, but I don't know. I have absolutely no idea how that works, but the smart nerd, um, I'll, I'll email him and when he figures it out, he can let us know.

• 1:40:18Matt Farah?

And then follows up, a tuned T or S, particularly with a manual, you cannot get a manual on the S anymore. If you want to stick, you have to get the T. Seems like it would offer a superior and simpler road driving experience. You're not wrong.

• 1:40:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:40:33Matt Farah?

You're not wrong. Having a manual eliminates that normal mode bogginess of the 3.0 liter turbo engine. And also, the Carrera S, if you put it in sport, has a better ride than the GTS, is nearly as quick, and the fuel economy isn't much worse. So...

• 1:40:52Speaker 01

And a tuned up T would be awesome.

• 1:40:54Matt Farah?

A tuned up T or a tuned up S would be very fun.

• 1:40:56Speaker 01

  Just choose your transmission effectively.

• 1:40:58Matt Farah?

By the way, I do have a video up. We have videos up with the T and the S. And you can go watch those on the Youtubes right now. All right, well, by the time most people are listening to this, both of us will be back

• 1:41:12Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:41:12Matt Farah?

from our trips, but Zach's going to race Lemons at Thunderhill with Team Glucker, Team Huniverse.

• 1:41:21Matt Farah?

This weekend, I'm going to Italy with my family to do absolutely nothing related to cars. But we love you all. We will be back with more Smoke and Tire Podcast. The content will flow seamlessly as if we never left.

• 1:41:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:41:36Matt Farah?

  See you next time. Bye.
