What's up everybody, welcome to the Smoking Tire Podcast. Today's episode is brought to you by Off the Record. We love Off the Record, out there on the road, looking out for us. If I get pulled over, I know who I'm calling. It ain't my daddy, it ain't my wife, it's OTR. They are looking out for me, and if I get a ticket, big or small, they're gonna fight that ticket all the way to the top. And then I get that text message a couple of months later, saying, "Your ticket has been dismissed." That's my favorite text to get. That's better than a drunk text from an ex, you know what I mean? It's a sober text from your attorney, saying, "You can breathe now." OffTheRecord.com/TST. That's OffTheRecord.com/TST.

• 0:45Matt Farah?

• 1:16Speaker 01

We could do a Patreon just of restaurant stories someday.

• 1:19Matt Farah?

We should. Zach's restaurant stories are better, are fucking proper. Carl's were insanity.

• 1:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27Matt Farah?

All right, I mean, Anthony Bourdain's made a career on that.

• 1:31Speaker 01

  Very true.

• 1:31Matt Farah?

Telling crazy restaurant stories. Yeah. It's where a bunch of fucking pirates work.

• 1:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:37Matt Farah?

  That's why.

• 1:37Speaker 01

It's artists meet criminals meet, like, really interesting people who might have gotten, I don't know, ejected from other businesses. Or they don't want to be in those other businesses. They like working at night, they like the pressure. I mean, there's an adrenaline junkie aspect to it.

• 1:53Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's action.

• 1:54Speaker 01

It's definitely, it is the most stressful job I've ever had, for sure. I've like, I've had like five production nightmares in my life. I had six months of server nightmares after I quit.

• 2:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 2:06Matt Farah?

  That's fucking crazy. Anyway, cars?

• 2:08Speaker 01

  Cars.

• 2:09Matt Farah?

  Cars.

• 2:09Speaker 01

  We drove many.

• 2:11Matt Farah?

Dude, this is not gonna be a relatable episode. That, what you just told about the coffee-making guy is gonna be the most relatable thing on this. There's nothing, I have a list and there's just nothing relatable on it.

• 2:21Speaker 01

The cars driven in the last couple of weeks are like, they go from extremely expensive...

• 2:25Matt Farah?

Do we talk about the car that's 1.5 million? Or the car that's 2.5 million first? As opposed to the cars from last week, both of which were like a million.

• 2:35Speaker 01

Right, should we go chronologically? Let's go chronologically.

• 2:38Matt Farah?

  Okay, so Zinger, Zinger.

• 2:41Speaker 01

And even though, I mean, this car is like extremely expensive, but I feel like YouTube, the response showed us, people are excited about it because it looks like a spaceship.

• 2:51Matt Farah?

Well, there's like so much going on with the Zinger. Um, there's, uh, how funny that that's... I had another photo, don't I? Oh, the one of me standing on the, uh, on the, on the front wing too. Yeah, I'm standing on the front wing.

• 3:07Matt Farah?

The 21C, uh, this is the high-downforce car, so I drove and you didn't get to drive it, did you?

• 3:14Speaker 01

You, are you bringing it up now to rub it in as a joke? Or are you actually forgetting, despite how many times we've talked about this?

• 3:22Matt Farah?

I'm bringing it up to rub it as a joke.

• 3:23Speaker 01

  Are you serious?

• 3:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 3:24Speaker 01

Are you, or are you just...

• 3:26Matt Farah?

  Yeah. No, uh...

• 3:28Speaker 01

  Fucking dick.

• 3:30Matt Farah?

  This one, uh...

• 3:32Speaker 01

I was serving the country, Matt.

• 3:33Matt Farah?

  You were serving the...

• 3:34Speaker 01

  Injury duty, not...

• 3:34Matt Farah?

No, not this one, but the silver one either, you got to have a ride in, but not really...

• 3:39Speaker 01

10 minutes because of a paperwork issue, okay.

• 3:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, paperwork issue. One of these days, there, because these, Zinger is cool.

• 3:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, they are.

• 3:45Matt Farah?

You know, they're, they, they, they, they like us because we take good care of the cars and we're not fucking idiots and, and, uh, and we speak the truth about them, I think, so. So, anyway, um, I got to go drive the high-downforce car at, uh, at Willow Springs. What a treat to have a, to have a membership there and get all tracked to myself because the only way that, rightly, that they will let one on a track is if you get a track all to yourself, so, you know, you can't just take one to a track day.

• 4:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:13Matt Farah?

  Not the press one, anyway.

• 4:16Matt Farah?

The, the color of this one, this is the best Zinger I've seen. The color is like rattlesnake green tinted carbon.

• 4:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:27Matt Farah?

And it's fu- it fucking fucks so hard.

• 4:31Speaker 01

  I think.

• 4:31Matt Farah?

  It's awesome.

• 4:32Speaker 01

When we were at the factory, we either saw, we saw some panels done in this. I think it was being developed.

• 4:38Matt Farah?

Maybe it was for this one.

• 4:39Speaker 01

And I remember looking at it and just staring like, I was like, that's the prettiest carbon fiber panel I've ever seen in my life.

• 4:44Matt Farah?

It's, this is the coolest carbon fiber car I think I've ever seen. In terms, just the color matching the, the car and, so I really didn't want to get it dirty.

• 4:55Speaker 01

Good thing you drove in the desert.

• 4:56Matt Farah?

Didn't really wanna, oh, the desert's not bad. I didn't want to fucking spin it off into the gravel.

• 5:00Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 5:01Matt Farah?

So, you know, when we drove the silver car, which you could see on our YouTube channel, drove it on the road, that's the, the low drag car. They call it the, the VMAX, which is very pretty with the long tail, very clean design. The car was clearly designed with the downforce first, the other way around.

• 5:21Matt Farah?

And, you know, on the street, it's not like you really need that much downforce. But should you get the opportunity to go very, very fast in the VMAX, when you transition from hard throttle to hard brake at high speeds, as happens with other cars without a big fucking wing, the back gets light. It's not unmanageable, but it's a criticism I had of that car.

• 5:49Speaker 01

I, I mean, any race car that has this kind of power, beginning in the 60s, would have a big wing because they learned before that what happens without one.

• 5:59Matt Farah?

Yeah. Um, it's really, and it's, it's, there's the, there's the, the downforce to go through a corner, that's one element. And then there's the balance of aero that happens when you shift the weight forward at really big speeds. And, and you need the wings for both. They help with both. So, they said, yes, like, we'll bring the high downforce car to the track and you can drive it there.

• 6:21Matt Farah?

Have you looked at the footage yet, Zach?

• 6:23Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 6:24Matt Farah?

This is, this is a wild fucking ride. I mean, not like anyone should be surprised. This is, this is, this car, I mean, it's, it's thirty-five hundred pounds. Bitch. It is, um, it is, uh, twelve-hundred-and-fifty horsepower. Um, tri-motor hybrid with a two-point-eight-eight-liter V-eight twin-turbo that revs to eleven. Um, it is, uh, you, you sit in the middle, um, and, uh, it's,

• 6:58Matt Farah?

it's so fast that on the streets of Willow, you can only go flat, really two places.

• 7:08Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 7:09Matt Farah?

And for a maximum of about two-and-a-half seconds. Maybe three seconds before you have to be hard-breaking. Um, it's, uh, incredibly stable. I mean, really, it's sticky, sticky, sticky. A, a, a, a true pro, someone with more seat time, could absolutely go fast. The only way they would let me drive it is A, if I got the track all to myself, and B, if I promised not to time the laps. So...

• 7:38Speaker 01

Which is a common request by lots of OEMs.

• 7:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, that's, it's not uncommon, yeah. Um, uh, in part because they don't want, you know, a time published that isn't something a little more under their control if it's gonna be a track record or something like that, which with this car, it could be. You know, they, they show up places and seem to set records, like, so, um, you know, if they're gonna, if they're gonna put a stopwatch on the car, they're gonna wanna go for that, and, and also, they don't want, um, journalists, you know, stuffing. They were like, dude, this car has to go on like a national press tour, like, right after this, and then to Goodwood. So like, just ple, you know, just please, just please, and you know, it's, fuck, they're so, how do you not go, yeah, of course, of course.

• 8:25Matt Farah?

You know, if you're Top Gear or maybe Chris, you can go, "Fucking, I'm gonna do whatever I want with this car."

• 8:30Speaker 01

But I bet Chris, like, he could slide the thing and they would trust him. And I doubt he would go try to set lap times.

• 8:37Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:38Speaker 01

Because of the pressure that amounts for that, you know? And it doesn't really translate to camera, so what's the point?

• 8:42Matt Farah?

So, when you go, you know, I'm driving, driving and talking with this car was very difficult. Folks, today's support is coming in from VIN Bidders. Let's face it, buying a car is fun, but selling a car super sucks. Whether it's Facebook Marketplace, Bat, the forums, whatever you do, you're giving up a combination of money, time, and privacy. Selling to a dealer is by far the easiest option. It's immediate, it's clean, it's easy. They handle the paperwork, they handle the logistics, and you get paid. But the real challenge is finding a dealer offering the convenience, but also the right price. VIN Bidders is here to help you find that one dealer who really wants your car and is willing to pay for it.

• 9:27Matt Farah?

They've curated a network of high-end, independent, and franchise dealers around the country who regularly buy enthusiast cars remotely. VIN Bidders offers stronger results than other channels, but with a fraction of the effort. Their dealer network buys everything from GT350s to Carrera GTs. And here's how they do it. You submit your car in just five minutes, just the VIN, the miles, the condition, eight recent photographs, and your desired reserve price. Once a listing is approved, they send a service to your home to photograph the car and prepare a condition report. You don't drive it anywhere, you don't answer any unnecessary questions. Your auction goes live for 24 hours because that's all a dealer needs to make a strong, binding offer.

• 10:10Matt Farah?

There's no publicly listed VIN, no comments, and no drama. Your info is only shared with the winning dealer. That's it. You can go from submitting your car to a confirmed sale in under one week with VIN Bidders, and you only pay $149 if the car sells. Smoking tire fans get $100 off the listing price with promo code TIRE.

• 10:35Matt Farah?

It is extremely fast and I had to do it with the windows closed for sound purposes. And like many, um, hypercars and supercars, when you're at max throttle, it cuts the AC compressor to use power. So it was really hot. It was like 100 degrees at Willow the

• 13:26Matt Farah?

day I drove it. And so it got hot in there quickly because every time you go flat, it just cuts the compressor, which like I said, it's only a couple of times a lap, but it's enough to...

• 13:39Speaker 01

Well, and you also have this, you know, greenhouse over you.

• 13:42Matt Farah?

  Glass greenhouse.

• 13:43Speaker 01

So it heats up even quicker than a regular car.

• 13:45Matt Farah?

If you're gonna drive around in this car on a hot day, you need the air conditioning cranking and you need to not be going full throttle so the compressor's not cutting out all the time. It's an electric compressor, but it's still, it's still does not blow cold at full throttle. So, and that's normal for one of these. But, so you'll see in the, in the video, uh, which is not up yet, but, but Zach's working on it. Um, I, after like two laps, I have to put the windows down and do a cool down lap, not for the car, for me. And like, catch my breath and talk slowly. And then I put the windows back up and go quick again. Like, I can't drive and talk for that. Like, uh, the car is fine, but I can't. So, um, I mean, if you just look at the handling, it's like a fucking

• 14:30Matt Farah?

prototype, you know, car. It is on a road tire. It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sticky tire, but it's a, it's a road tire. So you don't in the hairpins where the where the car is heavy and the downforce isn't fully there, you can induce a little understeer, you can induce a little oversteer. In general, it is incredibly balanced. The steering's a little heavy, but it's, you know, with the Tri-Motor setup, you just have this magical front end that always seems to have more. And the car makes so much power and I just like, and it made me so nervous that I just was like, I'm not turning traction control off.

• 15:12Matt Farah?

Like, I don't need to be a hero and slide, especially with the funky yoke. Like, trying to drift that, it just, I would try to do it on like an airfield. Like where I go, there's somewhere I can do this where it will not go wrong and like, but this didn't seem like the right time to responsibly try and do that. But the, everything about it is, it's so fast, it's so sharp, and just like driving on the road, with that view, with the A-pillars, the way they are in the center driving position, you have to look at every corner kind of in a new way.

• 15:55Matt Farah?

Like, because the A-pillars are like literally in a different position than they would be in a normal car, you have to move your head around a little bit differently to see through the corners, which I think is very interesting.

• 16:11Speaker 01

Yeah, that's cool, because, you know, when you approach a corner in a car, there's the reference points on earth, like, here's where I am braking, or here's where I'm aiming, but now you have the reference points in the car. So placing the car using the A-pillar, like, if you're in a right-hand drive car, is suddenly different to get the left side of that car close to the curbing. Now you're in the middle, which I think is easier, but takes getting used to, especially when you have these amazing curved fenders, like, it's probably very easy to see where the tires are.

• 16:39Matt Farah?

Yeah, going from, going to the, going to the middle is actually not hard. Like, you, one can drive a center seat car with no experience and not end up being all fucked up and wandery the way you would if you all of a sudden drove a right-hand drive car for the first time. It's a lot easier than you think to play, I mean, particularly because like, you have, you've got a high point. You know, on the fender that like is essentially the outside of the top of the center of the front tire.

• 17:11Speaker 01

  Right.

• 17:12Matt Farah?

So totally easy car to place on the track. It's just that it is so fucking fast that keeping up with it is extremely challenging. Even to somebody who drives a lot. It's just like you realize like, I don't know, like not the human body, but like the human body that is like physically in decent shape, but and and physical and and somewhat comfortable driving at speed, but not trained for this type of pace.

• 17:47Speaker 01

  Right, right.

• 17:48Matt Farah?

The difference between me and fucking Jensen like is a huge gap.

• 17:52Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 17:53Matt Farah?

It's a big gap and like that's what it takes to to drive this at its peak and I don't have that, you know what I mean?

• 18:00Speaker 01

  This is Formula One horsepower.

• 18:03Matt Farah?

  And it feels like it.

• 18:04Speaker 01

And and that's what's weird today is because horsepower is so easy to come by, both in electric cars and gas cars like ZR1X etc. We are buying Formula One horsepower at dealerships.

• 18:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:16Speaker 01

But as we've talked about before, like no license program, but just the training alone, like to to to deal with the the speed with which the corner approaches you. When you're in, when I jump in a car that's like, I don't know, we drive something that's like seven, eight hundred horsepower and it and the powertrain is like really light. I have to recalibrate compared to something with 400 because now I'm approaching that corner, not 2X as fast, but much, much quicker. And all of a sudden you have to go, oh my, everything has to sharpen up. I'm braking either earlier or just more authoritatively like you have to adjust all that shit real quick.

• 18:49Matt Farah?

So you know those those training devices that where you tap the lights on the wall like the F1 drivers use? I forget what they're called, but they're reaction time and sort of athleticism tests. So they had one at the Edwards Life Sciences booth at the Indy 500.

• 19:08Matt Farah?

And I've never tried one before, so I, I, I, I wanna try it. And another person also tried it who won't be named, but it, it rhymes with trike Berenstain.

• 19:21Speaker 01

Yeah, was it someone you were traveling with?

• 19:23Matt Farah?

And I've never done one before, so I don't know what like good is, but I, I do it and.

• 19:29Speaker 01

Good is all, is just whatever is better than your friend. That's what good is.

• 19:33Matt Farah?

  I was better than him.

• 19:34Speaker 01

  I know.

• 19:34Matt Farah?

He, he's older than me, but he plays like four hours of tennis a day. Uh, and I, I did 55 in 60 seconds.

• 19:43Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 19:44Matt Farah?

Which the guy was like, that's pretty good. Like that is, and I was like, okay, well, what is like? What's like, the, he's like, the most we've seen today is 64. And that was like a teenager.

• 19:56Speaker 01

  Right.

• 19:56Matt Farah?

He's like, but I, but I'm told that like an F1 driver could, could crack 80.

• 20:01Speaker 01

  Fuck!

• 20:02Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:02Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 20:03Matt Farah?

I'm, I'm, by the way, straight up disclaimer, I'm just repeating verbatim what a guy in a polo shirt said. Like I don't, I don't, I haven't looked this up. What a fucking, so I don't know, but like, I, that's believable.

• 20:18Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, cuz they've been training at it forever.

• 20:20Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 20:21Speaker 01

You know, and especially younger, younger F1 drivers that have reaction time. The wiring is similar to that younger person, but they've been training at it and honing those skills forever.

• 20:30Matt Farah?

The homie said the, the teenager that got like 64 had a stance. It was a, like a weird stance, but he's like, he knew how to do it. Like he had been trained to use a particular.

• 20:42Speaker 01

Well, they have him at Dave and Buster's. I, I raced Sarah a couple of times there. I did win.

• 20:47Matt Farah?

  What did you get?

• 20:49Speaker 01

  I don't think they use.

• 20:50Matt Farah?

  Is it not 60 seconds?

• 20:53Speaker 01

Maybe, I don't remember. I just remember it was us against each other and I won. That's right.

• 20:59Matt Farah?

Next time we go to like, like a, one of the, you know, like a Hendrick or one of those like training centers.

• 21:04Speaker 01

  Hell yeah, let's do it.

• 21:05Matt Farah?

I gotta message Graham and see what Graham would, would do in one of them. That'd be a good.

• 21:10Speaker 01

  Ray Hall or Smith?

• 21:12Matt Farah?

  I meant Ray Hall.

• 21:13Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 21:14Matt Farah?

The, the professional race car driver.

• 21:16Speaker 01

  I didn't, yeah.

• 21:16Matt Farah?

  Yeah, Smith probably has.

• 21:18Speaker 01

  They might have one too.

• 21:18Matt Farah?

Smith probably has access to one.

• 21:20Speaker 01

That's why my brain went to that.

• 21:21Matt Farah?

I know, I know. I'm, I'm conflating, I'm conflating our motors for dynasties. Like I said, this show would be incredibly relatable.

• 21:29Speaker 01

You should ask Graham Rayall, that would be very cool.

• 21:31Matt Farah?

Yeah, he probably has a number. He probably has one of them things at his house, you know? I asked Graham who had the best RV on the Indy grid, and he was like, "Oh, wait, fucking me, for sure." He's like, "I just got a new one, it's like so sick." Some people rent them and then fly from city to city and just rent the RV while they're there. He actually has one that goes around. But for the month of May, they like live in them things.

• 21:57Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 21:58Matt Farah?

Graham said he lives at the track the entire month of May.

• 22:01Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 22:02Matt Farah?

Because there's like three or four races and then qualifying and stuff. Yeah, he's like, "You might as well just stay there." So, anyway, back to the zinger. • 24:22Matt Farah?

out of money it is crazy and delete me is how it's the first step to stopping all of that particularly in the age of AI where you can scrape the internet any malicious actor can get the entire internet by just typing in one sentence it's it's absolutely crazy this is why you need delete me the way it works is you make an account you give them the information you don't want anyone else to have yes I see the irony in it but you have to tell them what to look for then they go looking you don't hear for a couple of days and then you get a crazy report that says just how many instances of you being on the internet there are and it is a shocking number they then delete me will then go to

• 25:07Matt Farah?

go to work deleting that stuff automatically some you need to like do a little click click click click some you have to type in your initials or a digital signature to delete to file a takedown notice and and and then the next month it's a little less the next month it's less than it's less and less and less it probably won't ever go to zero because you continue to be yourself on the internet but it keeps it down for sure that's why delete me was named top pick for data data removal services by wire cutter and delete me does all that hard work discounting getting with the discounts getting even better with a two-year plan or when you enroll with your partner or family take ...control of your data and keep your private life private by signing up for Delete Me.

So it's, it's pretty much as close to you're gonna, as you're gonna get to an F1 car in terms of something that you can drive on the road that feels, you know, safe. You know what I mean?

• 26:36Matt Farah?

Like, if you're my size, driving an open wheel car is sketchy because you are so uncomfortable that you can barely move. And if you can't move, you can't drive. Like, that's a fact. If you're, if you look like me, or in, in general are bigger than fucking Zach, you're not getting in an open wheel car. You're certainly never gonna buy one. It's not gonna happen. And look, yes, this is so expensive, but like, if you are bigger and want that experience of like, whoa, that F1, like, this is where you get it. Because this car, it's actually very funny. This green car has the comfort seat in it.

• 27:16Matt Farah?

So ironically, the comfort seat is, is a beautiful Recaro road car seat. So when you sit in it, there's tons of legroom and tons of shoulder room. And it's, it's just a car seat with air kind of on both sides. And you've got places to put your shoulders and stuff, but it's super roomy. So if you wanted to go on a thousand mile fucking road, you could do a thousand miles in this car and go, ah. Let's go to dinner, like, easy.

• 27:43Speaker 01

As long as you sit in the front, yes.

• 27:44Matt Farah?

As long as you're in the front, absolutely, comfy, but high G-loads. I was like, actually not quite enough side-bolstering for a fat guy like me. And they were like, yeah, you know, we have like the track bucket, but, you know, given that this is going on a press tour, like, we put the comfort seat in this. Most people aren't gonna take this one on the track.

• 28:04Speaker 01

And most people will buy it and use the comfort seat, so you might as well show them in person what that feels like, instead of explaining what it feels like while there's a bucket there.

• 28:12Matt Farah?

Yeah, my recommendation is still the comfort seat, but I just, it's a funny thing that this and a Mustang GT share something.

• 28:20Speaker 01

  That is really weird.

• 28:22Matt Farah?

They share a criticism, you know? But this doesn't double the G-load.

• 28:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:27Matt Farah?

You know, this comfort seat would be, is like the sport Recaro in the Mustang. It's almost the same seat, I swear to God.

• 28:36Speaker 01

But the G-load is so high in this thing, yeah.

• 28:38Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But fucking hell, is it, we have, I have to make sure, I mean, I would, goddamn jury duty, this, you would have driven it, like, you would have driven it. There'll be another chance, I'm sure, you know, but it's just, I'm so day, I'm so like, you know, I'm not over hypercars per se, cuz, you know, driving any hypercar is a fun day at work. I'm not that jaded, but like, a lot of them are variance on, you know, a few percentage points that this way or this way, you know? There's nuances, but the same formula, like, this shit is like, different, so different.

• 29:20Speaker 01

Yeah. Where you sit, how it's built, the way it looks, I mean, that's why, I think we were excited about this car when we first filmed it. The audience was excited about it. And then we went to, I remember we went to a party, and one of our successful friends was like, "What do you think?", and he had that, that look on his face, like, he's kinda considering, I was like, "You should absolutely, if you can, I mean, what else have you seen that's like this, outside of, I mean, seating positions like a T-50 or McLaren F1? But look at the thing, it's crazy."

• 29:49Matt Farah?

Yeah. The only thing I thought that was kind of interesting, the, you know, the hybrid system, the, the motor generator that's, that's the flywheel, that's, that is in between the engine and the transaxle.

• 30:05Matt Farah?

What Zinger does so well here is they use that motor generator to smooth out the shifts in a single clutch gearbox that make it feel like a dual clutch gearbox. When you put the car in what they call Track Plus mode, which is the fucking suspension slammed, like hardcore track mode, it smooths it out less. And so at high speeds on track, it no longer really feels like a DCT and it punches a little bit. And all that means is you think twice before changing gear when it's like loaded up in a corner. I shifted gear mid-corner a couple times exiting the bowl, and I didn't find it to

• 30:50Matt Farah?

be like a problem problem, but I also did have traction control on. And then when I would do a cooldown lap and I'd be shifting up at, you know, five, which is low in this car, the red line's 11, so quote cruising around, you're shifting up at 4,000 or 5,000 RPM. Then it got, you know, light throttle upshifts, very smooth, off throttle downshifts, very smooth, but full throttle, full brake, it was bang, bang, which, you know, fun. And I'm sure there's a purpose, maybe that motor generator is just being used for fucking to fully dump power or for a different purpose during that mode. But it was no longer smooth.

• 31:34Matt Farah?

It kicked like a Lambo Aventador SVJ.

• 31:36Speaker 01

  Wow, or like the SSC.

• 31:37Matt Farah?

Hmm, uh, yeah. That was like, clack, that had a like a fucking, you know, like a machine gun.

• 31:44Speaker 01

I feel like you were the bullet getting racked into the chamber. That's what it really felt like, the breach. Someone's gonna yell at me. But yeah, you were like, oh, here we go.

• 31:52Matt Farah?

  Yeah. No, it's not that. It's a fast, hard kick. You know, it's a, it's like a...

• 31:57Speaker 01

  LFA, whatever. Again, relatable.

• 31:59Matt Farah?

I forget if it's a, Jesus, I forget if, I think it's the X-Track sequential that Pagani also uses, but it just, it just fucking, at full throttle, it's power shifting. Like it's barely opening the clutch and it's not, it's not stopping the throttle, you know? And, uh, and so it's a, it's a pretty hard slam, whereas an upshift... Dude, if you, you know, in the canyons, it's half throttle like max. I mean, you have no idea how fast this will go when you put the fucking throttle down. They just, it's half throttle. And then it's just like, it's like beautifully smooth.

• 32:35Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 32:36Matt Farah?

But the harder you go, the less smooth the shifts get.

• 32:40Speaker 01

That's interesting because the engine is so smooth, partly because of its size, but the way it's mounted like, I remember driving, you could rev it and you just don't feel any vibration. There's no twist, there's no nothing. And so it, that's so smooth, but then all of a sudden, like out of nowhere, you get this transmission kick.

• 32:55Matt Farah?

Yeah. It was wild. What a great day. I mean, I got to run, you know, I don't know, 30, 40 laps probably.

• 33:04Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 33:06Matt Farah?

And I, I wish I could have done it with, you know, it doesn't work with audio and talking, but driving it with the windows down on the track is really cool. Because just the way air flows around it, you don't get buffeting, you get a nice breeze, but like it, it stops the, anything that's head on. So you could drive it with an open face, you know, helmet and sunglasses if you want or,

• 33:30Matt Farah?

it's just like a, it's a very pleasant experience. And even when you're going slowly, it's just so different and actually pleasant. Like it, it drives slowly nicely. It's, it pulls away smooth, it's easy to putter around and park like, you know, it's a little clunky with a three-point turn. The drive, reverse drive, if you're doing it fast, it's like slightly clunky, but like considering the level of performance, it's just a beautifully usable, cool thing.

• 33:59Speaker 01

So again, unrelatable to people, but when you mentioned the wind, I was curious, is this, how much overlap is there in the driving experience between this and the Elva? Because they're both very expensive. Elva's like no windshield. I was starting to think of like, is this close to a motorcycle? Center seat, wind, you know, at your sides.

• 34:19Matt Farah?

This is like, this is like a comfy prototype race car is what this feels like. This is, this is like you took a fucking LMP. Car.

• 34:28Speaker 01

Right, it looks like it, yeah.

• 34:29Matt Farah?

A LeMans car and put nice leather and really nicely designed knobs and stuff and a comfy seat in it. Like, that's, that's what it feels like. Somewhere between that and fighter plane.

• 34:40Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's very fighter plane.

• 34:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 34:42Speaker 01

Especially the way, like, the world bends a little bit with the glass as you go by. It's so cool.

• 34:47Matt Farah?

Yeah. All, all of that good shit.

• 34:52Matt Farah?

And oh, by the way, this photo of Luca Zinger and Jay Leno standing in the wing. This car, this car makes its weight in downforce at thirty, at 150 miles an hour. So at 150, you could drive it upside down theoretically.

• 35:03Speaker 01

That's a lot of downforce. Cause it's not, cause a lot of downforce numbers we see, it's always at VMAX.

• 35:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 35:08Speaker 01

This is not VMAX, 150, and, right?

• 35:11Matt Farah?

I think it's 150. Let me double check that, but that's, I was, I was told 150. I was also surprised it was geared, uh, it's geared not that long.

• 35:23Matt Farah?

Cause considering, it's got 11,000 RPMs to play with, so, so it seems like it's geared short. Until you actually wind each gear to redline and you realize what you can do.

• 35:34Speaker 01

Yeah, you shift at nine, cause your brain's used to, that's the end of the road, you know, unless you, like, it's them and it's GMA.

• 35:42Matt Farah?

And there's also, the way the TAC works is the TAC is just four number, or four or five digits, digital, just going up. And you're just, it's not a needle that moves across a screen. And then, once you get past eight, you have a series of shift lights that do, that do like blue, then white, then red. And you shift, you know, when it gets to red on the screen. But you're not watching a needle that's getting, that's, that is, you know, you see it go three quarters of the way around and you still have that much more to go. When you're just watching numbers on the display, you don't necessarily think about 11.

• 36:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's true.

• 36:20Matt Farah?

It's just a higher number than you are, and by the way, when you, by the time you get to 11.

• 36:28Matt Farah?

In third gear, you have the most hardcore fucking tunnel vision. The, the forces are amazing when you can effectively deploy 1,250 horsepower. You know, coming out of the fucking hairpin onto the front straight. And you're looking at that bend up there and you, you know, you go third to red line, fourth to red line, which is, I don't know, two and a half, two and a half seconds. And then immediate brake. Like, forget that little lift for that turn one kink. That is a, you better slow down or you might die.

• 37:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:08Matt Farah?

  You know, you're going.

• 37:09Speaker 01

The next turn is a hairpin.

• 37:11Matt Farah?

It has great brakes and great downforce, but it, it, it has so much more acceleration than either of those other things. You know, I don't even want to know the kind of speed you'd see at Cota. Fuck, it'd be crazy.

• 37:23Speaker 01

It would be so cool and absolutely terrifying to ride in the back while a pro sent it. I mean, it would be, it would, the bummer is like you'd see the back of their chair most of the time. You have to look around them, but I bet the speed would be so terrifying.

• 37:38Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 37:39Speaker 01

Um, I just wanted to look at the gauges.

• 37:40Matt Farah?

That, that's, I mean, that's the gauge and it's a, it's a digital cluster. So it, it changes a little bit, uh, when you go into, you know, track mode or whatever. But like, that's, oh, is it going to load up?

• 37:54Speaker 01

  No, it's linking.

• 37:55Matt Farah?

Oh, that's just linked back to their website? So it, yeah, it doesn't really, there's a P in the middle and that turns into, you know, uh, either a D or one, numbers one through blah, blah, blah. On the left, does that say zero RPM, that number?

• 38:10Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 38:11Matt Farah?

So it's, so it's shut off there. So there, it's in electric mode. So that number just goes from zero to 11,000.

• 38:18Speaker 01

You can't watch that count. That's like watching the deficit counter. You know, you're, you can't keep up. You're just, so you look for those numbers or you, sorry, you look for the lights.

• 38:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 38:25Speaker 01

That go whatever, yellow, red, blue.

• 38:26Matt Farah?

Yeah. So the, the lights move across the top of that screen where it says, there's, there's the C right there. So, you know, once you're, once you're told when the lights will go, you know, they'll go at eight, nine, 10, and then, and then your red line's 11. You go, Jesus Christ, it's, it takes a lot to, to fucking wind the, the motor out that high. It really does. You need a lot of space.

• 38:50Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah. You need a runway. Or, you know, Streets is-

• 38:54Matt Farah?

  Fucking crazy car.

• 38:56Speaker 01

Streets is a wonderful track. I really, really like the layout. But it is perfect for the 200 to like 500 horsepower.

• 39:06Matt Farah?

  Agreed.

• 39:06Speaker 01

You know, unless you're like a time attack driver, but even then, like it's just, it's tight and there's S and stuff.

• 39:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah, no.

• 39:11Speaker 01

  This thing?

• 39:11Matt Farah?

  This is too much car.

• 39:12Speaker 01

This would make Big Willow, Big Willow shrink.

• 39:14Matt Farah?

It would, and this, look, I, I don't like Big Willow as it is now. I'm sure I will like it a lot more once the boys fucking fix it, but, but fact is, scheduling. This was the day a track was available. This was the day the car was, they were like, the car's available on one of these three days. And one of them, Streets happened to be available, so that's where it was.

• 39:35Speaker 01

I would, I would rather drive it on Streets than Big Willow until they've, you know, adjusted everything for sure.

• 39:40Matt Farah?

And Streets, by the way, is a, is a much better track for testing. If you're, if you want to find out, does it understeer, does it oversteer, does it do this, does it have, you know, that kind of shit? Streets is a far better place to, to learn those things.

• 39:54Speaker 01

  True.

• 39:54Matt Farah?

Cause there are, there is such a thing as a 30 mile an hour corner. There's an on camber, there's an off camber, there's a this, there's a, you know, there's a place where you can, most of the time, try and do some slides very safely. Like, there's, there's a lot of the things you want to figure, use to figure out, is a car good or not?

• 40:10Speaker 01

  Great classroom.

• 40:11Matt Farah?

But when you've got 1,250 fucking horsepower, you know, what is enough room for that?

• 40:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:18Matt Farah?

Yeah. But what I really like about this thing is that, you know, you don't have to be going a zillion miles an hour to have fun in this car. This car, I mean, I, I think this car would be fun at low speeds. It's fun to cruise around in. It's, because when you're in it, you experience otherwise ordinary places and things you've seen before in a new way. And there's very few cars you could do that. The BAC Mono is another one, but that's like a shitty car and this is a nice car.

• 40:51Speaker 01

I think the Morgan, it's a, the Morgan three wheeler has that quality. But this is the Morgan three wheeler plus the T1000. So, but it, it, when it's so unique and the view is so special and the response, when you, if you drive this around, is going to be insane. Like, it will always feel-

• 41:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 41:07Speaker 01

It should always feel pretty cool.

• 41:09Matt Farah?

It's American made, by the way.

• 41:10Speaker 01

  Very true.

• 41:11Matt Farah?

I mean, it is, it is, I, I think the most, um-

• 41:17Matt Farah?

Extreme. I think it's the most interesting hypercar on the market today and it and it happens to be from fully made in America.

• 41:29Matt Farah?

  Which is pretty cool.

• 41:32Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm just running through the list of other hypercars that are like.

• 41:34Matt Farah?

I mean, you've got Cointis, you've got you've got your your fucking Bugatti. I mean, look, the Torbion is obviously going to be sick. But it is not like extreme in a way this is extreme. I don't think the Torbion is going to set a track record or set five track records in five days.

• 41:52Speaker 01

  No.

• 41:52Matt Farah?

It'll serve a different a different client for a different reason and.

• 41:56Speaker 01

And it might set a straight line record, like the same with the Jesco.

• 41:59Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 41:59Speaker 01

I think, as you've said before, this is a bigger departure from those cars. Those cars have are iterating on a foundation that was laid.

• 42:08Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 42:08Speaker 01

I mean, essentially Miura, but then you go to like, you know, 512.

• 42:12Matt Farah?

  Or Countach.

• 42:12Speaker 01

Countach, like, it's all building on, you know, the mid-engine, two-seater, da-da-da-da. This is a rethink and a and a marriage of, you know, open-wheel center seat positioning and physics with obviously the manufacturing that I can't get enough of, and then the performance. So.

• 42:30Matt Farah?

The way this car would go wrong is if it wasn't any fun at low speeds. If you had to be going 150 to enjoy it, which you don't. So like, the people that have the money for this, you know, money, talent, and desire to go that fast versus money and just desire to have a cool, crazy thing that they can drive around to fucking coffee. This is also good at that. So that's good.

• 42:57Speaker 01

  It's a showstopper for sure.

• 42:58Matt Farah?

So, uh, thank you to, uh, the Zinger team for, uh, for bringing that out to the track for me. That was fucking awesome. Genuinely fucking awesome, dude. It was so cool.

• 43:10Matt Farah?

And then Zach and I had a day equally relatable. Slightly less expensive. At a discount of, I think, 700K, maybe?

• 43:22Matt Farah?

I think this is one and a half. One five, one six, something like that. For the Gunsewix F26. It's a, it's a take on their turbo. It's fighter plane.

• 43:36Speaker 01

  Inspired.

• 43:37Matt Farah?

Inspired. The irony to be talking about this in the, right after segue from the, from an actual fighter plane on the road to, um, uh, uh, one that's, uh, named after a fighter plane. But it's, it's their take on a slant nose. So it's got a whole new front clip. It's like one of those, uh, wide bodies, but it's, it's a slant nose that has the sort of open, uh, aft of rear wheel. How do we describe, how do you describe that?

• 44:10Speaker 01

Oh, it has like, it has like a fair extraction behind the wheel, which is very cool. The 911ST had a small version of it. Um, trying to think of other cars. But yeah, the, basically for people listening, there's like, there's a, the front fender is wider than the door. And that delta of like an inch and a half between the two is vented, so.

• 44:28Matt Farah?

  The new GT3RS does it.

• 44:30Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 44:31Matt Farah?

  As does the Mustang GTD.

• 44:32Speaker 01

So it probably helps take air like out of the wheel well, downforce or something like that. You know, just prevent lift. Um, also looks pretty damn cool.

• 44:40Matt Farah?

Yeah, so it being a, um, slant nose, you know, it has little squinty eyes that look almost like a Koenigsegg. Until Zach said IONIQ 6 and I couldn't fucking unsee that.

• 44:56Matt Farah?

  That's unfortunate.

• 45:00Matt Farah?

And if I'm honest, I think the round headlight turbo does look better. So there, there's the good shot there. It was a real, damn it.

• 45:10Speaker 01

Yeah, I want to find a picture.

• 45:12Matt Farah?

  There it is. Yeah.

• 45:13Speaker 01

  There we go.

• 45:14Matt Farah?

So it's, look, I, I. I do respect the take. You know, no one has really done the slant nose yet. It's very hard to do. A lot of people don't even like 9/11, regular 9/11 slant noses.

• 45:29Speaker 01

  I didn't.

• 45:29Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 45:30Speaker 01

The only reason I say didn't is when Marco let me drive his around. I spent some time with it. Like, I came around, I think, the car looks really cool. And it looks fast, because it was made for that. It came out of racing in like 1975. Uh, Norbert Singer, like, found a loophole and he's like, "Oh, we can take the headlights out of the car." And they went way faster. And then the take rate for the public cars was huge. But, I still think they look worse than the regular 9/11.

• 45:58Matt Farah?

  I agree.

• 45:59Speaker 01

There's just a lack of balance. Like, the greenhouse is still really tall and bubbly, and then the slant is flat.

• 46:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 46:04Speaker 01

So, Marco, I can hear you yelling, that's fine.

• 46:07Matt Farah?

No, I don't like hate all slant noses, but I like the round headlights better. And get rid of this picture and go to the orange turbo. Go back up to the top, and you've got the round headlight turbo there on the right. I mean, that, to me, is very pretty. And I think the slant nose is less elegant than this.

• 46:30Speaker 01

Yes, I agree. I, there are some angles, and maybe, like, the paint on this car was amazing.

• 46:35Matt Farah?

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:36Speaker 01

But when I was following you on the highway, parallel with you, or looking at rear 3/4, like, this thing looks amazing.

• 46:43Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it's crazy.

• 46:43Speaker 01

  Liquid metal's awesome.

• 46:44Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's not, I just prefer the round headlights.

• 46:47Speaker 01

  Totally agree.

• 46:48Matt Farah?

Uh, the motor, um, oh, boy. So, there's, there's a bunch of things. The main things that are done with this is the motor is the most powerful Gunther motor ever. And then also, they've done...

• 47:00Speaker 01

Which we'd all been clamoring for.

• 47:01Matt Farah?

Thank God. I was, the last one was slow. The orange car was a slow shitboxing. And they've also done... A whole bunch of chassis bracing behind the seats where you know you used to find a backseat, sometimes you'd find a cage. Now there's an enclosed space. Is there a photo that actually shows it? It's like a filled in space. It's got a carbon box effectively around the entire space and inside that is a bunch of chassis bracing that makes it a 200% stiffer structure.

• 47:36Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:38Matt Farah?

Which that's pretty cool because when you have the wide body, you lengthen the control arms. If you have a stiff structure and a low weight, and this is a relatively light car, you can run a very soft spring and you can run a very precise damper. And one of the really good things about this car is actually the ride.

• 47:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:56Matt Farah?

  The ride was really good.

• 47:58Speaker 01

That's something that I think has been there with Gunther since the beginning, since we drove the first Speedster. I mean, they always run JRZ shocks, I think, but they are set up really well. The cars always feel compliant. They eat canyons pretty good. This was, we took it to a pretty bumpy road, I think, and this felt a little stiffer than the Speedster was, but this is like a quote "track focused" car.

• 48:21Matt Farah?

This also has the double wishbone. So they've developed a double wishbone front suspension like the current GT3 for this. I think it helps reduce tram lining because they're running a 295 front tire. That's a crazy amount of tire. I think this car was less darty than previous Gunthers that had the more traditional suspension setup.

• 48:47Speaker 01

That's true. It didn't really move around.

• 48:49Matt Farah?

It didn't move around. I mean, it could get bumped around on the very bumpy sections, but I don't think it was that bad. But the steering didn't move around. The steering was heavy, heavier than I would want, but once you set it, it stayed there. And if you were going straight on the highway, you could drive it one-handed and it wouldn't dart all over the place. And that is an improvement.

• 49:11Speaker 01

Whereas cars like the Dark Horse, you talked about that dart around, like there's cars that are less insane than this, but still moved around in the front.

• 49:19Matt Farah?

Yeah, well, the front engine cars have to use wide front tires, so a Dark Horse has 305 fronts. So it's, it's literally catching the edges of the ruts in the road and moving around.

• 49:29Speaker 01

  But 295 is huge.

• 49:31Matt Farah?

It's almost there, yeah. Uh, okay, the engine, uh, Roth Sport Racing, uh, 1,067 horsepower and 750 pounds of torque. Now that's on E85, and we were delivering it with E85, but I filled it back up with 91. It has flex fuel, so it was probably making like only like 950 horsepower or something like that.

• 50:03Matt Farah?

  Was it enough?

• 50:05Speaker 01

It was too much. It was absolutely too much, and, and part of it was, I mean, first of all, the positives, I think this is the most responsive engine I've driven, definitely the most responsive turbocharged engine I've driven in terms of, like, max torque, 750 pound-feet, is at 4,500 RPM? No, 5,400 RPM.

• 50:24Matt Farah?

  5,400.

• 50:25Speaker 01

5,400. Doesn't matter, doesn't matter. Starting at 39, I'm watching the TAC and it rips past the, you know, peak torque number, and I was like, this is insane. And even just downshifting, like, it revs up, it responds so fast. I was really, really impressed and also terrified, but like, it just felt like the whole engine was made of titanium and air, and everything just wanted to spin.

• 50:49Matt Farah?

Yeah, it's a 4-liter, twin-turbo, twin-charge cooled, uh, and it's got a flat fan, like a 917 does. And what that, it looks incredible, it's so cool. Uh, that fan is gear-driven instead of belt-driven, so it does make a little bit of noise. It's a little bit of a chatter, sort of like a single mass flywheel style chatter.

• 51:14Speaker 01

Well, when you do the drive, when we do the drive-bys, it is a, there's a battle of weed eaters happening, like, in the back. It's very mechanical buzzsaw. It's not as loud as the orange turbo was. I know they worked to quiet it down. But you hear a ton of that gear drive. It's very cool.

• 51:29Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's so nasty. It was a little damp the morning that we went out there, but it did dry out a bit and I, when, first off, in the canyon, in a place with corners, you, you almost can't fucking go flat anywhere. So it's a, there's three drive modes, right? There are, there's comfort mode, there's sport mode, and there's track mode. Comfort mode is like 550 horsepower. Sport mode is, you know, 750 and then, and then track is the full kill mode. And you should not use track unless you have a straight, straight, dry road.

• 52:10Speaker 01

  Correct.

• 52:11Matt Farah?

I did it and I spun the tires all the way through second and third and chirped fourth.

• 52:19Speaker 01

And it has traction control. It has, well, I mean, what they call motorsport grade traction control and ABS.

• 52:25Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 52:26Speaker 01

But this road is rough and damp and, I mean, the power is insane.

• 52:30Matt Farah?

Yeah. And so, and, and the speed, the, the way it pulls is violent and terrifying in track mode. I mean, truly, the way it pulls in fourth and fifth gear is like Koenigsegg level acceleration in the high gears. When you go, when you go third, fourth, fifth, it does not pull less when you upshift. It pulls the same. That's fucking crazy. But also, it's like...

• 53:04Matt Farah?

This was one of the loudest cars inside I've ever driven. I was so tired after a morning of driving this. I had to take a fucking nap. Even after wearing noise-canceling headphones, I had to take a nap. I was so tired. It beat me up so bad. You know, they have these carb, these like bucket seats that look like the ones from the Chimera, but they're not. The Chimera ones have deeper sides. These look like track buckets that will hold you in, but actually don't have enough side bolstering to hold you in.

• 53:39Speaker 01

Not at all. And we were driving canyons. I mean, I was driving kind of timidly, honestly. I didn't have as much time with it, but I was just like, there's so much happening, there's so much speed. The thing costs so much money. It just, I don't know, it felt like busier than the orange turbo. But actually, that was a different road. This had tighter corners. But the seats still didn't hold me in place. I was using my arms a lot. I mean, I was kind of surprised with, for this to look like the H.R. Geiger, you know, deep-carbon bucket. It's actually a really shallow bolster on the sides and pretty short. Like, it doesn't come that far up your rib cage and doesn't wrap around you very much. It's kind of weird. I was like, it was kind of posturing as a racing bucket.

• 54:21Matt Farah?

Yeah. Like, it's like those, like, sports sedans that have artificially stiff suspensions on sport modes, just so you think that even when actually leaving it in comfort makes it handle better. It's, I think they have figured out, this should be it. Like, I'm serious. Like, this car is successful at its mission, which is to build the most egregiously overpowered and extreme air-cooled 911 ever. Like, it has like 200 horsepower more than the Singer DLS Turbo. Like...

• 55:01Matt Farah?

Just stop, like, we're great, we're good here. Like, we're good. And, and I, cause Spike, like, Spike didn't like it at all.

• 55:11Speaker 01

  It's very loud.

• 55:12Matt Farah?

He was wearing like air traffic controller headphones.

• 55:14Speaker 01

It's really loud inside because, you know, something Gunther does is all the door panels are basically bare carbon. That whole back section where the bracing is, is just carbon. It is an echo box.

• 55:24Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 55:25Speaker 01

You know, you're sitting inside, I know I said a lot, like, you're in a mailbox. There's very few soft materials to absorb any sort of sound.

• 55:31Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 55:31Speaker 01

And then the car is loud, so you're just getting this echo going around you the whole time.

• 55:35Matt Farah?

Yeah, and so, like, it, look, if, if, if that's what Gunther really wants, we, we, we must have the fastest air-cooled cars around a track, period. You know? Uh, okay. Alright, fine. And apparently they've sold most of these. They're making like 26.

• 55:52Speaker 01

  26 of them, so.

• 55:53Matt Farah?

And they've sold most of them. Alright, fine, what the fuck do I know? But like, my challenge to them is like, okay, you've now followed this formula that started with the red car back in whatever, 2018, whenever that was. You know, you've iterated, you've got the coupes, you've got the speedsters, you had the turbos, now you've got this fucking thing. You, you did your fucking American shopper, Iron Man car build. Like, this has to be the end of this. Because,

• 56:26Matt Farah?

like, I, I sound obnoxious to say it, but like, this is actually so extreme, I don't like it anymore. Like, if I, like, I, I would, if I had the money, I, I could understand how I'd go, "Yeah, I, fuck, get me that thousand, oh my god, look at it, fucking nuts, thousand." And then, once I had it, I would drive it twice a year. Cause it would just be exhausting. As opposed to when I drove the Singer Turbo, and you drove the Singer Turbo. On the same road as this, by the way.

• 56:55Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 56:55Matt Farah?

Both of us were like, "Mmm, daily for the next 20 years? Sell everything immediately and use this for everything up to and including towing?" Like, like, what do I have to do to drive this thing every day for the rest of my life? Like, it was a different reaction to the car. So like my challenge to Peter and Gunther now is like, okay, you've done this. Can you make a comfortable one? Like, can you make a fast, great handling, you know, the thing that you do, but like, make it, make it weigh, instead of 2750, make it weigh 3100 and be full of dynamat and be like, quiet.

• 57:39Speaker 01

Yeah, because they've gotten, like, they know the ride, they know how to make the things handle well. Shifter was fantastic. Compliance is good. Like, they've got the engineering and the geometry done and no one is really competing with them in this 993 space. So I don't think going, you know, quote, like, going down in power, there's obviously a market for that. There's plenty of people that want the comfortable 400 to 600 horsepower thing. And it can look the way they, like, they want it to look and they can, they should do the interior bit so it's a little bit quieter. There will probably still be people out there that want them. Because this is all like, you need a pilot's license. And you need like a fighter jet pilot's license to drive this thing.

• 58:20Speaker 01

It was, you know, it was pretty intimidating because it's, because it's kind of small. The power, you know, compared to the Zinger, let's say they have about the same horsepower. We'll base on this, probably shorter. It's more difficult to drive, even though I only drove the Zinger for a short amount of time, like, just the controls, having to shift it, like, everything about this is a lot more intense. And when you think of the people that raced at Le Mans, Daytona, whatever, in the old 935s that had 1200 horsepower, they were like the top race car drivers on the planet at the time.

• 58:55Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 58:56Speaker 01

So, to go back to, if you can just buy this thing, like, be prepared to drive a car that is the most difficult yet fastest thing on the planet in 1975.

• 59:05Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 59:06Speaker 01

That's kind of what you're buying.

• 59:07Matt Farah?

And they also wore ear protection. Or I don't know if they did then, but they certainly would now.

• 59:11Speaker 01

Huh? What? Yeah. So I totally agree with you. If they turn one, turn it down, but do all the things they know how to do well, and like, let's see what they can do.

• 59:18Matt Farah?

Yeah, like, if it had, if it had a simplified version of this engine, that was, that was 550 horsepower. Nice, good throttle, good response, but, but not the death kill.

• 59:31Matt Farah?

narrower tires, two seventy fives in the front, not two ninety fives, right? narrower body, comfort seats, comfort door panels, you know, with nice leather and all that kind of stuff, some sound insulation in there, a good, like, a light clutch, you know, this, the clutch on this was actually-

• 59:50Speaker 01

actually, this is pretty easy to drive.

• 59:50Matt Farah?

It was, this car, other than being loud, was very civilized at low speeds, like, I will give them that, and even in, like, comfort mode, the inputs, the pedals, the tune, the ride of the adaptive JRZ, like, it's as good as it's gonna be, like, there are big differences between the drive modes and between the suspension modes, and like, they're, they make, they do make a difference-

• 1:00:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:15Matt Farah?

But they don't make it quieter, it's still so fucking loud in there all the time, and my head was just zinging the second half of that day. So it's for psychos, this is a car for psychos, you know, you just, I hope you have the talent.

• 1:00:33Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:00:34Matt Farah?

Not that we're special, but we also have fucking the fear of death and something resembling restraint, you may not, you may not have that.

• 1:00:42Speaker 01

Yeah, I think, I think buying this car, if you haven't done some competitive racing and driven other really high horsepower stuff, is gonna be, it's gonna be kinda scary, and you, and you, I just hope you don't get yourself into trouble, because you could so quickly.

• 1:00:57Matt Farah?

Yeah, this, I think in terms of just, in terms of actual scary, this is probably the scariest car I've ever driven.

• 1:01:05Speaker 01

Ooh, this or Hennessy Vent, well, that was just on the runway, so, oh no, you drove it on the street, too.

• 1:01:10Matt Farah?

I drove it on the street, at the time, that probably was, but I think this eclipses that, I think that was, that was, there wasn't much difference between that and like, a hopped up Ford GT, in terms of just like, how it sort of feels to operate it, whereas this being like, air-cooled, you fuck, the only gauge you can see through the steering wheel is the, is the tach.

• 1:01:37Speaker 01

  And it changes-

• 1:01:37Matt Farah?

I don't know how fast I was going, I couldn't, I, literally, the, I can't see the needle after forty until it's like a hundred and seventy.

• 1:01:45Speaker 01

Yeah. It was, it was pretty crazy, another thing, like, the pedal box is very narrow, I think I took my shoes off, I wore the wide shoes, but like, even with the shoes off, you know, I was, it was offset and very tight in there, and then the steering wheel-

• 1:01:58Speaker 01

I know it's like inspired by fighter jets or whatever. It's, I drive with my hands at nine and three. I know there are some people like to drive fast at ten and two, but this steering wheel has like ridges on the back and pads on the front. Basically, if you hold it at nine and three, it's uncomfortable.

• 1:02:14Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:14Speaker 01

It feels like you're in the wrong, I don't know, sitting on half of a chair. And so you have to put your hands at ten and two, but it just felt very strange and...

• 1:02:22Matt Farah?

It heavily favors ten and two.

• 1:02:24Speaker 01

Yeah. And, and you know, look, they're competitive, like the Singer wheel, we've talked about is great because it's just a circle. It just let people figure out, like, put their hands where they want them to be, totally fine.

• 1:02:35Matt Farah?

Yeah. It's, uh, this, this thing is psychotic. I mean, I'm glad we got to, to try it. It's always, it's always a treat to try something crazy like this. But it's, it's just so much. Um, and, and, and it really is an assault of performance and inputs. It's, the steering is heavy, the brake pedal, you know, it's got the ceramic brakes from a Nissan GT-R in a car that weighs 1,500 pounds less than a Nissan GT-R, which is fucking great, or is it a thousand pounds less than a Nissan GT-R? Uh, but the pedal is very, very heavy.

• 1:03:10Speaker 01

  Really heavy.

• 1:03:10Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:11Speaker 01

Kind of strangely heavy, actually. I was pretty surprised by that. It felt, uh, kinda like a McLaren, I think, but firmer than that even. And, you know, in all of it, I, 2,700 pounds, I think it's wet. Well, they say curb, but in the press release it said dry.

• 1:03:25Matt Farah?

  Yeah, the, some, someone's, uh...

• 1:03:28Speaker 01

The press release they sent to us says 2,700 dry.

• 1:03:31Matt Farah?

I think their website is shenaniganzing.

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

Let's call it 3,000. That's a thousand pounds less than a Veyron, and they make effectively the same power.

• 1:03:39Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:40Speaker 01

And I bet this is a, that has all-wheel drive, this doesn't.

• 1:03:43Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:43Speaker 01

This is probably a smaller, shorter car, like...

• 1:03:46Matt Farah?

Speaking of which, Gunther has lengthened the wheelbase by 30 millimeters. They moved the rear wheels back, which does, does help. It does make it more stable in the high speeds. Uh, it does. And actually, the turning radius is very good.

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

  It's incredible.

• 1:03:59Matt Farah?

  Shockingly good.

• 1:04:00Speaker 01

I did like a U-turn on the canyon, I went, how come I still have so much more angle with these huge tires?

• 1:04:03Matt Farah?

Shockingly good turning radius, um, a nice ride, and I didn't scrape it anywhere either. It has nose lift, and I did not scrape it anywhere.

• 1:04:11Speaker 01

It's carbon bodywork all over the place. It's a pretty wild thing.

• 1:04:14Matt Farah?

It's fucking cool, but I think they've reached the end of the line for this line of thinking, and they need to try something else.

• 1:04:23Speaker 01

They need an acoustic album. That's where we're at, you know? They gotta reset everybody.

• 1:04:30Matt Farah?

  Good to work's unplugged.

• 1:04:30Speaker 01

Yeah, do an artsy thing and then they'll come back later with 2,000 horsepower.

• 1:04:34Matt Farah?

I need you to do an indie flick, guys.

• 1:04:38Matt Farah?

  Go to an ashram.

• 1:04:40Speaker 01

  Metallica Christmas album.

• 1:04:42Matt Farah?

Someone, so here's what has to happen. Peter at Gunther Works, and I, this is a joke, I don't wish this on him. He needs to like need back surgery. You know what I mean? He's in good shape. He's never had to the need for a comfortable car.

• 1:04:57Speaker 01

Well, but the car rides pretty comfortably.

• 1:04:59Matt Farah?

  It does, yeah.

• 1:05:00Speaker 01

  So it's just...

• 1:05:01Matt Farah?

The seats. We need the touring.

• 1:05:04Speaker 01

  The seats and the sound.

• 1:05:06Matt Farah?

He basically needs to do like sport classic, like a 992 sport classic. You know, a little duck tail, clean lines, you know, twin turbo power, rear drive, but dial it fucking down.

• 1:05:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:23Matt Farah?

That could be cool as shit, couldn't it?

• 1:05:25Speaker 01

Sure, for sure. Make the bad boys mobile. Could do that. 600 horsepower, not a thousand, Peter.

• 1:05:31Matt Farah?

  That would be cool.

• 1:05:32Speaker 01

Don't do it. Take your hand off the mouse. Not a thousand.

• 1:05:35Matt Farah?

  Not a thousand!

• 1:05:36Speaker 01

  Drop it.

• 1:05:37Matt Farah?

  Holy shit.

• 1:05:40Matt Farah?

Before we get to questions, I had one quick thought. What do you think is the most expensive EV, outside of the Ramaz Navara? Most expensive EVs ever sold on Cars and Bids and Bring a Trailer?

• 1:05:55Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:05:56Matt Farah?

  I, do you know? I don't know. I did not, I don't, this isn't trivia. I don't have an answer.

• 1:06:01Speaker 01

The most expensive EVs ever sold like online auction?

• 1:06:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, yeah, cuz it makes me...

• 1:06:04Speaker 01

I bet it's either, it's gonna be a Plaid or a Cybertruck being flipped when they were brand new.

• 1:06:10Matt Farah?

  Maybe, yeah.

• 1:06:11Speaker 01

People that have the first allocation and they flip it for double.

• 1:06:13Matt Farah?

  Sure.

• 1:06:13Speaker 01

Or like people were buying Hummer EVs for $220,000 when they were really new. So it's gonna be something like that. That's my guess.

• 1:06:20Matt Farah?

But that was a couple of years ago. Yeah, cuz I have this theory that the public's appetite for EVs ends at 150,000 bucks.

• 1:06:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:29Matt Farah?

And I wanted to see if, I wanted to see if market data supported that. But you're right, this flipped, the flipped Cybertrucks and the flipped Hummers would definitely...

• 1:06:42Speaker 01

Would throw the curve off a bit.

• 1:06:43Matt Farah?

Throw the curve off. I wonder if you can search, can you search by EV? Is that what you've done?

• 1:06:48Speaker 01

  I searched EV.

• 1:06:49Matt Farah?

  I guess that's.

• 1:06:50Speaker 01

And I wonder, here we go, highest price.

• 1:06:52Matt Farah?

Highest price, yeah. Yeah, you're right. 260 for Hummers. Wow, the whole fucking top row is Hummers. Go down, let's see where you stop getting Hummers.

• 1:07:04Speaker 01

So yeah, Lucid Sapphire with 200.

• 1:07:07Matt Farah?

  Wow, okay.

• 1:07:08Speaker 01

  Wow, a Tesla Roadster.

• 1:07:09Matt Farah?

Yeah, Development Mule Rock, that's, that's actually a particular, that's a particularly special and collectible car.

• 1:07:16Speaker 01

  It's just Hummers, Hummers, Hummers.

• 1:07:17Matt Farah?

  Yeah, so even like, wow.

• 1:07:19Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 1:07:22Matt Farah?

Okay, so there's a couple in 2022, there's 170, 2026, that Taycan Turbo GT would have been, would have had a 2 in front of it, 250, 260 new, and lost 100 grand.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:07:36Matt Farah?

Yeah. Wow, these Hummer EVs fucking in 2022, people were flipping the fuck out of these.

• 1:07:41Speaker 01

The Taycan lost 100 Gs in a year.

• 1:07:43Matt Farah?

Yeah, keep going down, Taycan Turbo S. Alright, so.

• 1:07:49Matt Farah?

  Yeah, keep going.

• 1:07:50Speaker 01

How many white Hummers can there be?

• 1:07:52Matt Farah?

A lot, those are all the launch editions or whatever. Alright, so there starts to be a lot more variety when you get to, when you get under 150, look at that. 140, 146, below 146, you start to see Lucids, you got a Tesla X, you've got a Roadster. Now Rivian's coming to play at 130. Okay, so you, you have a couple of models that for a time brought over 150. And then you start to see a lot more variety under 150.

• 1:08:22Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:08:24Matt Farah?

So I will say there is some data to support this theory, though maybe the line isn't exactly at 150, and it depends on where your snapshot in time is.

• 1:08:36Speaker 01

Yeah, and, and like, we'd have to kind of get rid of the allocation, the buzz and the hype, like, what are people just, how do they value an EV?

• 1:08:45Matt Farah?

Can we refine results by sales and maybe, okay, we probably have to have, we probably have to call Cars and Bids and have them export a report for us, where it was like, where it's only ones in the last six months, and then for, and then also highest price from there. But, um.

• 1:09:03Matt Farah?

Used to be a job for fucking Johnny

• 1:09:05Speaker 01

I think if we called it and asked them to do this, they'd go, "That's a great podcast topic." Click.

• 1:09:09Matt Farah?

Click. Why don't I come on your podcast and talk about it? Oh, that blue fucking GT3 RS is great. So EVs here.

• 1:09:17Speaker 01

  We're bringing a trailer now.

• 1:09:18Matt Farah?

Yeah, okay, so auction results sold.

• 1:09:22Matt Farah?

And then let's sort by, uh, uh, oh wait, hang on, recent, yeah, hi, uh, hi, Ben, how do we sort by? Sort by recently closed. And then can we do a, yeah, last, last year. I like that. Okay, uh, yeah, let's see what we got there.

• 1:09:40Speaker 01

Do you want to sort by?

• 1:09:41Matt Farah?

  Highest, highest bid, yes.

• 1:09:43Speaker 01

  Sort by highest bid.

• 1:09:44Matt Farah?

Okay. So sapphires, two sapphires for 175 each, but fucking these things, three sapphires. But these things, those things were 250 new. Yikes. You got a G-Wagon for 157, and those are the only four bat results in the last year. Over 150 for an EV of any kind.

• 1:10:06Speaker 01

So people don't go to bat for EVs. I mean, there's a lot more of them.

• 1:10:10Matt Farah?

There's more on cars and bids.

• 1:10:11Speaker 01

More on cars and bids. And actually, we, I, some of the results we saw were from 2024, so.

• 1:10:16Matt Farah?

Right, that's true. I think we did not sort by last, by most recent year. So I think today, go back up to the top. I think today, the, the general public really does have, or, sorry, to the top of our results. I think the general public really does have an appetite of, let's call it 160 tops for an EV, new or used, for the most part, right?

• 1:10:40Matt Farah?

How many bids did those sapphires get on it? Go to the, the, the 2024 that sold for 160. 38 comments, go down, how many bids? By the way, the Sapphire was pretty goddamn cool. I mean, I, I don't know about 175. When those drop a little more.

• 1:11:00Speaker 01

  Where's their bids?

• 1:11:01Matt Farah?

Go, keep going down, down to the bottom, down to the bottom. Keep going, there we go, 12 bids. 722 watchers in 12 bids.

• 1:11:11Matt Farah?

  Not that popular.

• 1:11:12Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:11:13Matt Farah?

If I'm honest. Not that popular.

• 1:11:14Speaker 01

  No cold start.

• 1:11:15Matt Farah?

No cold start. That's pretty funny. But that would have been 250 new and sold after a year, you know? So, uh, I think there's some validity to my theory. If not a, if not a hard science, but there is some validity to it.

• 1:11:31Speaker 01

I think it makes a lot of sense and, uh, I wonder how many like Taycan Turbo GTs they sold. It's a very extreme car. It was also very expensive, right? 260 or something like that?

• 1:11:41Matt Farah?

I know two people who bought them new. Both of them told me they got like 80, 90K on the hood to take those cars.

• 1:11:50Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 1:11:50Matt Farah?

So they paid 150 for the car stickered at 240. I mean, I think, I think all high-end Taycons go out the door with cash on the hood. I don't, I think they're having a hard time selling the high, the high-end ones.

• 1:12:03Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:12:04Matt Farah?

Yeah. Let's go to the people, shall we?

• 1:12:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:06Matt Farah?

Do you have anything extra that, before the people?

• 1:12:09Speaker 01

No, we're at an hour away.

• 1:12:11Matt Farah?

Great. By the way, shout out to Under the Cuff Straps, our boy Under the Cuff Matt. He sent us the cut-to-fit, uh, rubber straps that work on the canyons. Just sent me this one that works on my Grand Seiko Lake Sua.

• 1:12:25Speaker 01

That's cool, rubber with a deployment clasp.

• 1:12:28Matt Farah?

Rubber with a butterfly deployment and it also has the, um, the texture rubber, so it looks sort of like sailcloth, but it's rubber. So I'm super, the fit of this is really nice. It's super comfy.

• 1:12:40Speaker 01

  Nice.

• 1:12:41Matt Farah?

And I'm really stoked because I, Grand Se, I love this watch.

• 1:12:46Speaker 01

  It's good blue.

• 1:12:46Matt Farah?

It's the best dial ever, but because it's a 22mm lug and only a 41mm case, that's a very wide lug for a 41. So a lot of straps look really weird and like too big for the small case. This strap has a nice taper.

• 1:13:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:04Matt Farah?

Nice slim deployment and it doesn't look too big and chunky for the case. So shout out to, uh, Under the Cuff.

• 1:13:10Speaker 01

I should get some, I'm not even fishing, I'm gonna go buy some rubber straps because I have leather and I have metal.

• 1:13:15Matt Farah?

  I have, uh...

• 1:13:16Speaker 01

  For some, some, some time.

• 1:13:17Matt Farah?

I have a couple for the canyons if you want. I have a couple 20s. The cur, so the curved end ones, they don't always fit every watch perfect because not every watch has the same curve, but like a lot of watches that will have, you know, a straight lug and then a curve and it's like, it'll get pretty close.

• 1:13:34Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 1:13:34Matt Farah?

So I have a couple different colors I will give you. And you can see if they fit. They're very nice.

• 1:13:42Speaker 01

  The Weiss today.

• 1:13:43Matt Farah?

Uh, shout out, I think Cameron Weiss is coming to town next week. If so, we should maybe get him in on a show.

• 1:13:48Speaker 01

  That'd be cool.

• 1:13:48Matt Farah?

You know, he fucking moved temporarily to Switzerland. Him and his family moved to Switzerland because they couldn't find good help in America, um, to, to work at their watch factory. They, they just like couldn't find watchmakers. And so they were like, fuck it. We're going to open up a training center in Switzerland. And train people and then have them move to Nashville and work at the manufacturer. So they've been in Switzerland for like a year. And, uh, they have a guest room at their house. They've invited us, but, uh, it seems, it seems like they're having a pretty good time over there.

• 1:14:24Speaker 01

  Very cool.

• 1:14:25Matt Farah?

But he's gonna come, he's coming back to visit next week. We should fucking get him in here. Uh, Christian, oh, of course, the people, you know, the drill, patreon.com slash the smoking tire podcast. That's where you ask us questions for the show. Uh, get, watch the show live, get extra show, uh, get, uh, access to exclusive merch collabs and things. One of which is arriving here just after this show. We'll reveal it to you next week. Um, it'll be a, hopefully a Patreon exclusive. Um, I think many of you folks will really, really like this one. And, uh, yeah, extra show. What'd I say? Ad free show. You got, you guys know what it is. All the, the better, an enhanced experience. That's what you get. An enhanced smoking tire experience over at patreon.com slash the smoking tire podcast.

• 1:15:11Matt Farah?

Uh, Christian says, have you heard anything about the Boxster Cayman replacement? I have not.

• 1:15:17Speaker 01

  Hmm, I have not either.

• 1:15:18Matt Farah?

Uh, I've heard they've, they've got the EV one. It's like almost ready to go. And then I've heard they have to somehow make a, somehow make a gas one again.

• 1:15:29Speaker 01

  I don't envy their position.

• 1:15:30Matt Farah?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:15:33Matt Farah?

Christie Yamaguchi Maine says, is a 100K NC Miata a $5,000 driving experience?

• 1:15:42Speaker 01

I think it's worth more than that as a driving experience.

• 1:15:45Matt Farah?

  A 100,000 mile NC?

• 1:15:47Speaker 01

  It'll feel new.

• 1:15:48Matt Farah?

Probably a $10,000 driving experience, or $12,000 driving experience.

• 1:15:52Speaker 01

Someone commented, try finding one for 5 grand, depends on where you are. That is a great car. We drove the turbocharged one. If you need to elevate it, throw a little suspension at it, a turbo on it. But that is a fantastic, smile-inducing driving experience. Miles do not matter on that car.

• 1:16:09Matt Farah?

Rippin' Toots, any plan to review the Mercedes CLA 350 4matic EQ? No. That, I read that name and I just go, SEO death.

• 1:16:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:21Matt Farah?

That's a, that's a real, don't click on this fucking video, uh, kinda car. Silence of the Lambo, very good. Um, that would be pretty funny if you, when you put a Revuelto into like EV mode to like putter into your garage, if it then flashed across the bleach gauge cluster, Silence of the Lambo, that would be pretty cool.

• 1:16:43Speaker 01

What if you made the EV sound, the sound of Lambs screaming?

• 1:16:48Matt Farah?

When you fired it up, it just goes, hello Clarice.

• 1:16:51Speaker 01

  You better size 14.

• 1:16:53Matt Farah?

Uh, was the Ford Fusion Twin Turbo V6 any good when it came out? Did the Ford, when did the Ford Fusion have a Twin Turbo V6? I know the, um, Taurus did, and it was not very good. Did the Fusion get that motor?

• 1:17:13Speaker 01

Hmm, the 2017 to 19 Fusion Sport.

• 1:17:17Matt Farah?

Got a Twin Turbo V6, huh?

• 1:17:18Speaker 01

It had a 2.7, it had a Ford 2.7, probably based on the engine that, oh, it was a V6, not the Ford. 325 horsepower, 380 torque. That's pretty strong.

• 1:17:27Matt Farah?

How interesting that I have literally never fucking, didn't know that.

• 1:17:33Speaker 01

This is, this is the era when they, uh, Ford owned Aston or right after, so the front of it looks a lot like Aston Martin, remember that?

• 1:17:41Matt Farah?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:17:42Speaker 01

It was like, oh, we see what they did.

• 1:17:44Matt Farah?

Yeah, it looked like a Rapide till a Rapide pull-up.

• 1:17:46Speaker 01

But you could sit in the back of the Fusion, that's the difference.

• 1:17:48Matt Farah?

Fusion Sport, oh, wait a minute. You know what's funny? I may have driven it. I think it was, it came with a Haldex all-wheel drive, too. I think it was fast, but like, heavy. Like, it wasn't like, sporty.

• 1:18:03Speaker 01

This is, but it's a good highway car.

• 1:18:04Matt Farah?

  Yeah, it probably was.

• 1:18:05Speaker 01

  It's a pretty good-looking car, too.

• 1:18:06Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:06Speaker 01

Especially if you drop it a little bit, like, that looks...

• 1:18:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:09Speaker 01

  Decent-looking sedan, 325 horsepower.

• 1:18:12Matt Farah?

But I don't, this, I don't think this was the same as like, a Cobalt SS that was like, trying to be a hot hatch.

• 1:18:18Speaker 01

No. You could tune this a bit, and make it look like a cop car.

• 1:18:21Matt Farah?

  Right.

• 1:18:21Speaker 01

  Do the cannonball.

• 1:18:23Matt Farah?

  But that's it.

• 1:18:24Speaker 01

  And that's about it.

• 1:18:27Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:18:27Matt Farah?

  Looks good in red, though.

• 1:18:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:18:29Matt Farah?

Yeah. Jeep of Theseus says, "Another Luce question, given the design is legitimately appalling. How well would it need to do everything else for it to justify a $600,000 asking price?" I don't think there, I, we just, you know, based on what we just discussed, I, I don't think there's anything that it could, can you just pull up BAT again and see what Rolls-Royce Spectres? Because like, the, the EV that most justifies a high price point, to me, is a Spectre. Like, because it's still a Rolls.

• 1:19:04Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:19:04Matt Farah?

It's still got all the dope shit that you would want from a Rolls, right? So this one was no-sailed at $451, and I guarantee you that motherfucker had a price tag starting with a 5 or a 6.

• 1:19:19Speaker 01

Yeah, it's the launch package, so everything.

• 1:19:21Matt Farah?

See if there's a window sticker shot. Let's see how much the, what the actual MSRP was of this no-sale...

• 1:19:31Matt Farah?

  Does it say?

• 1:19:32Speaker 01

  Nobody got close to MSRP.

• 1:19:34Matt Farah?

Is there a window sticker? Usually in the photo gallery, there'll be a window sticker. The very bottom. Like, yeah, that, maybe if you go scroll to the bottom, there we go. Let's see, what do we got? $521.

• 1:19:48Matt Farah?

Yeah, so this fucking thing lost, you know.

• 1:19:51Speaker 01

So sixty, it was a no sale at seventy under sticker.

• 1:19:54Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:55Speaker 01

Uh, how many miles were on it? Was someone just trying to get rid of this?

• 1:19:58Matt Farah?

It had ninety-nine miles. That's brand new, delivery mile.

• 1:20:02Speaker 01

Someone was trying to flip it.

• 1:20:03Matt Farah?

So, so that's, you know, if nobody will pay four fifty for a brand-new electric Rolls.

• 1:20:11Speaker 01

And as we've said, like, this company is associated with having the smoothest driving thing in the world, right? It should be quiet, powerful, blah, blah, blah. That's why the engines were giant V12s and turbocharged. Now you've got an electric powertrain, does the job arguably better, um, and it's, people still weren't that into it. So Ferrari, one of its selling points, what its selling points, bad recognition.

• 1:20:33Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:34Speaker 01

Performance, sound, look. Has no sound.

• 1:20:37Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:37Speaker 01

  And the looks are controversial.

• 1:20:39Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

Yeah. Oh, and we, we asked on the last show, do people, are people from China into this car? I had two people DM me that live in China.

• 1:20:47Matt Farah?

Yeah, two people that represent all of China. Thank you very much.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

  It's what we got.

• 1:20:52Matt Farah?

Chinese ambassadors have phoned it in.

• 1:20:54Speaker 01

Hey, that's right. The diplomats from there. Um, one said, uh, we absolutely don't want this. We're not into it. And the second person said, the biggest flex in China is the guy that drives a Mustang GTV8. And he's like, he said, outside my window, there are Maseratis, there's all kinds of nice stuff that is sold at dealerships there. But importing a gas-guzzling, loud thing, like, that takes power and money. That's the flex.

• 1:21:18Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:18Speaker 01

So we'll see, but out of a test pool of two.

• 1:21:21Matt Farah?

The guy I saw in fucking Monaco that was driving the eighty-nine Cadillac Fleetwood. It's like, you own the world. Like, whatever you're doing. Uh, hand shalter, I barely knew her.

• 1:21:34Speaker 01

  Pretty good.

• 1:21:35Matt Farah?

Would Nissan have done better with the Nismo Z by following the GR Corolla playbook? A manual first, followed by auto?

• 1:21:44Speaker 01

  That's a great question.

• 1:21:45Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:47Speaker 01

I would wonder if the take rate on M2s is, you know, 90% DCT versus, or whatever paddle shifted versus 20% manual, then Nissan did it right. You know, like the loud voices, we want the manual, but the market actually wants an auto, so I don't know.

• 1:22:07Matt Farah?

I think their justification was very flawed, that people would care about lap times. Nobody who cares about lap times is spending a hair under 70K on a Nismo Z. That's not why you buy that car. It's not that fast. You know what I mean? If you have 70K and care about lap times and you must have a Nissan, you're gonna buy a used GT-R. Like, that's it. Like, you're not doing, you're not gonna do this. So, what does this car do well? It does feedback, it does fizz, it does engagement. The steering, the steering of a GT-R is fucking vague rad racer steering compared to the Nismo Z. Like, do you want to engage with machinery? That's what a Nismo Z is for.

• 1:22:50Matt Farah?

So, I personally, my vibes are like, yeah, it should have been stick. But like, I'm not in the meeting, I don't have the data, so I don't know. I'm glad it's stick now. I mean, what they did, they did the thing they said they were gonna do. They said, here's the auto one, if there's enough demand, we'll make a stick one. Bunch of people said they wanted it, now they made it. Like, they called, they said it. So, you know.

• 1:23:14Speaker 01

So, if you said that, you go buy it.

• 1:23:16Matt Farah?

Yeah. Zach's stolen Valor tune. Is there any desirable or high-end digital watch to complement a collection? I mean, G-Shock is a huge brand that is incredibly fashionable, and they make watches that are like $6,000, $7,000, $8,000, $9,000.

• 1:23:33Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:23:34Matt Farah?

Yeah. There's a line called the MCG line, that is, they're metal, they're fucking, you know, kinda crazy looking, but like, yeah, there's serious G-Shock collectors that'll happily pay big money for special G-Shocks. So, that's pretty much the gold standard of your digital watches. There's also like... Some weird stuff that's like late 70s digital watches, like some Hamiltons and shit. Bulivas from the late 70s that are like space TV kinda kinda stuff.

• 1:24:08Speaker 01

The gold calculator watches are still kinda cool.

• 1:24:10Matt Farah?

Yeah, if you're dude, if you wanna look cool on a budget, you can always go with a gold Casio calculator watch and you are right in the game. No problem. Otto Bon Jovi.

• 1:24:21Matt Farah?

Do you think charity car shows should have a set ticket price? Or suggest a donation mount at the door and leave it up to attendees? Went to a show last weekend that changed from a suggested donation of 10 to a set ticket price of 25. It occurred two years ago and the attendance has plummeted each year. I don't think.

• 1:24:44Matt Farah?

I hope that's not 25 a person. I think the money for a charity car show should be largely collected from the people showing their cars. Cause they're happy to, they're happy to donate. That's not a problem. And sponsors. And potentially relationships with vendors. And I would not charge walk-in attendees and instead ask for a suggested donation. That's what, that's what I would do. By the way, June 7th, Saturday, Riff Raff Charity Car Show. It's in Agora Hills, right? Is it Thousand Oaks or Gore Hills? Where's the, where's the dividing line? Is it Gore Hills?

• 1:25:29Matt Farah?

I think it's Gore Hills. It's at Barrett, which is another.

• 1:25:32Speaker 01

  Barrett Automotive Group.

• 1:25:33Matt Farah?

Yeah, Barrett's another, it's in Westlake Village. It's another car storage place, but he's far enough away that I actually like him. Kevin Barrett's a sweet guy. But me and Johnny and Tommy Kendall are judging the car show. There's a few different classes. There's gonna be food, there's gonna be vendors, it's to benefit Autism Society, Autism Society LA.

• 1:25:55Speaker 01

  Free admission for guests?

• 1:25:56Matt Farah?

Guests are free admission and it's they, you know, you, if you want to enter a car, it's a 250 donation. Uh, the categories are rad wood, exotics, and best daily. And best daily should be a sports car with high miles. That's what that means. It doesn't mean you're fucking Camry. It me, literally means if you have a dope daily with high miles.

• 1:26:18Speaker 01

I'll be out of town, otherwise I should enter my car.

• 1:26:20Matt Farah?

Your car would be perfect. Your car is like literally the thing.

• 1:26:23Speaker 01

Do they care about headliners? What's the, what's the rule there?

• 1:26:26Matt Farah?

It's judged. I'll, I'll overlook, I'll only look, I'll look down at the car, yeah.

• 1:26:31Speaker 01

You do, you're tall. Uh, they, uh, they might call that nepotism or something.

• 1:26:35Matt Farah?

So anyway, that's, uh, that's going on, um, Saturday, Sunday, June 7th, uh, 10 to one in Westlake Village. The flyer as well as the link to enter a car is up on my Instagram.

• 1:26:46Speaker 01

I think, to go back to the question, I would, I agree with you. It sounds like whoever's organizing this needs to do a better job of getting vendors or charging people to bring their cars out. I mean, obviously if they want to throw an event for charity, they don't want to do it at a loss. But if you can make up that money in all these other ways and then attract more people, you know, if, if admission's free, you'll have more attendance and then the vendors will sell more shit and maybe there'll be more donations.

• 1:27:11Matt Farah?

Yep. Johnny E.V. Gerberman, uh, I've answered this one before throughout the years, but I'll answer it again. Of all the cars you've ever had and sold, which one do you miss or regret the most? I, I don't, I don't really have any regrets. Usually if I get to the point where I'm selling a car, it's because I'm kinda over it and not because of I need the money necessarily or I'm out of space, which has happened in the past. But, um, there, I'd like to get another Skyline one day. I don't specifically miss the one I had and I wouldn't want to chase that one again. Um, but that's, that's really it.

• 1:27:53Matt Farah?

If there was a fucking brand new condition, oh six John Cooper Works Mini for reasonable money, that would be a good, good fun, fun thing to have, but I don't.

• 1:28:01Speaker 01

It's still such a good car.

• 1:28:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, I don't really think they are. There's other stuff that I like missed out on that like I didn't get back then, that I'd like, I'd still like to get a Civic SI, like a 2000 Civic SI, but like, you know, I'm probably not gonna.

• 1:28:17Speaker 01

  Integra, Type R.

• 1:28:18Matt Farah?

There's nothing that I'm sold on, like, ah, I'd love to have that back, like. It would be cool to get the Fox body back for the right price. Because now I could afford to put the motor in it that it should have had and whatever, whereas back then it would have been a pain in the ass. But like, dude, we got projects going on. The fucking Manx is getting the engine out and the upgrade. I'm gonna wanna drive that when it comes back. The Mercedes is getting built. The fucking Countach is getting put back together, like. I'm about to get flooded with my own cars. So like, I don't want, I don't, we can't have anything else. Uh, Jeep Chem Trailhawk.

• 1:28:53Speaker 01

  So good.

• 1:28:54Matt Farah?

Uh. There's a section of road near me with a 25 mile an hour speed limit that still feels slow even at 35, just driving normally. Are there any roads where you're surprised at how high or low the speed limit is? Uh. Yeah, I mean, when you read about how speed limits are calculated. It's an interesting science. Um. And I think America does a really bad job. Of matching speed limits to what a safe speed to drive is a lot of the time. Other countries do it better. The way America. America thinks about speed limits. Um, not. In terms of what is the safe speed to drive on this road. It's almost never that.

• 1:29:40Matt Farah?

Um, they, when they calculate them, they measure how fast people drive down the road. And they choose a number that's the 85th percentile of that. And that's what the speed limit is. Well, that's kinda dumb, if you ask me.

• 1:29:55Speaker 01

It's kinda, it's subjective, although it's like crowdsourced. It's like, well, here's what everyone thinks is safe.

• 1:30:00Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:30:00Speaker 01

And so we'll go with that.

• 1:30:02Matt Farah?

Yeah, and, and most people drive the speed that they feel is safe, given the conditions, regardless of what the actual number says on the speed limit. And so, that's why I'm a big fan of using natural. Things that already exist. Natural barriers, lane narrowing, painting lines in different ways, different textures on asphalts. You can indicate to people. That it's time to slow down now because there's gonna be pedestrians and shit around. In a way that is more effective and safer than changing the number from 55 to 35. Or in conjunction with that, that will result in more safety. As is, if you have three lanes each way and there's a fucking school zone and it goes

• 1:30:46Matt Farah?

from 55 to 25, and it's just a speed trap.

• 1:30:50Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:30:51Matt Farah?

Because the road still looks like a highway. It's only the sign has changed and now they can sit there and get you. Ugh, you know, come on.

• 1:30:59Speaker 01

It's like, well, in Texas, you've got those frontage roads next to the highway and sometimes those frontage roads are three lanes across and they're, they look like the freeway.

• 1:31:07Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:07Speaker 01

And so you will see people going as fast as you are. They're on the frontage road, which should be, I think it's like a 45 or something. They're doing 80 because they're like, this feels and looks like the highway. It's just, you know, one, a hundred feet to the right.

• 1:31:19Matt Farah?

Yeah. The road in front of our shop, right here, is three lanes each way and it looks like a highway.

• 1:31:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:31:26Matt Farah?

And people driving at highway speeds and consequently, the light out in front of the shop here, the traffic light, has some crazy accidents.

• 1:31:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:31:36Matt Farah?

Because it's, there's sort of a curve and people try to run the light at fully like 80 miles an hour and the side streets that are crossing at that light do not look like a highway. And so the, the visibility from the side streets is, I'm on a residential street, I'm on a side street, whereas the other way is fully, I'm almost on a highway. And so that's a, that's a real mismatch there. Um, yeah. But when you have, when you have a low speed limit on a road that visually looks like you should be able to go faster, that's a failure of those civil engineers to match the visuals to the, the law. Yeah.

• 1:32:21Matt Farah?

Crabhab says, I sold my 2017 GT86 to pay for, oh god, to pay for dental surgery not covered by insurance. Boo. Any advice for managing with just one sporty car? Uh, I mean, most people do that, you know. Your sporty car, you can indicate as a 2023 WRX. I mean, that's a pretty versatile car. So, advice for that, I mean, you can get summer and winter tires, depending on where you live, to optimize that, that car's performance. You can upgrade your brakes. That'll help you all the time. I wouldn't fuck with your powertrain too much because you need this car to be your daily. So.

• 1:33:02Speaker 01

Yeah, I don't know what the reliability is of those. Like, stage two does feel like a whole different car, and I recommend it, but also be careful.

• 1:33:09Matt Farah?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:10Speaker 01

And you still have a warranty, so maybe don't do that. Um, you could do suspension, I guess. You could do like a short shift kit, like, things you interact with that might just wake it up a little bit. Um, but I get it. I mean, the BRZ GR86 is one of my favorite things to drive. It is so much fun. I don't know. I think I'd rather have, I'd rather have a second gen GR86 than a first gen Boxer.

• 1:33:35Matt Farah?

I don't, you don't, if you only have one car, you do not want it to be a 25-year-old Porsche.

• 1:33:40Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:33:41Matt Farah?

Like, you just don't. That's just like, that's bad car math.

• 1:33:44Speaker 01

You know what might cost more than dental surgery?

• 1:33:48Speaker 01

  Repairing that thing.

• 1:33:49Matt Farah?

Yeah, you have to sell your teeth to fucking fix the car, dude.

• 1:33:52Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:33:52Matt Farah?

Uh, last one, and then, uh, we are out of here. Lando Norris says, Norace, says, uh, "I'm cross-shopping a late-model Prius versus a Civic SI for an urban commute. The heart says Civic because I don't have a fun car, but the brain says Prius. What's the move?" I mean, dude, a Prius is not fun.

• 1:34:15Speaker 01

  No, they look good.

• 1:34:16Matt Farah?

The late model. I assume you don't mean the current Prius. The current Prius is, it happens to look very nice, and the steering is pretty nice. Um, but Priuses aren't fun.

• 1:34:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:34:27Matt Farah?

A Civic SI is gonna have a manual gearbox, should have a manual gearbox.

• 1:34:30Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:34:31Matt Farah?

  I mean.

• 1:34:31Speaker 01

Looks better inside and out, I think.

• 1:34:33Matt Farah?

Is the difference between? A, do you have to drive stick? Is driving stick every day gonna be problematic for you? Yes or no? That'll answer it. B, is the difference between thirty and forty-five miles a gallon gonna be a difference for you? Yes or no? If it is, like, there's no better daily on earth than a Prius. Like, there just isn't. It's, it's a fucking car that's spacious and efficient.

• 1:34:59Speaker 01

  And reliable as fuck.

• 1:35:01Matt Farah?

You should see the fucked up Priuses I take home from the airport.

• 1:35:05Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:35:06Matt Farah?

Eight hundred thousand miles, fucking dash lit up like crazy.

• 1:35:10Speaker 01

Remember, we were next to that one in traffic a week ago. It had every light on, guys blasting music, the hood's messed up. It's definitely been crashed several times.

• 1:35:18Matt Farah?

The whole fuck, the number of red lights.

• 1:35:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:35:21Matt Farah?

It looked like a fucking Tic Tac Toe board on the dash.

• 1:35:23Speaker 01

Still operating, you know, it was your reaction time board. Yeah. Like, those are so durable, taxis are using for a reason. But, I, I, this feels like more a, a, a money question. You know, if, if you're just driving in the city, stop and go, will you get more enjoyment from sitting in a Civic? That looks a little better, but will get probably significantly worse gas mileage in stop and go traffic.

• 1:35:47Matt Farah?

In the city, for sure, yeah.

• 1:35:48Speaker 01

Well, that, is that number gonna hurt you too much and hurt your pocketbook or your bank account?

• 1:35:53Matt Farah?

And is driving stick in urban situations gonna annoy you?

• 1:35:56Speaker 01

  In that, yeah.

• 1:35:57Matt Farah?

Younger me would say, no problem. Today, I'm like, why the fuck would I do that? I am so thankful for my Taycan. After, after spending a day in the gun to veks, to, to drive errands in the Taycan is like, fucking, how far have we come? And I'm thinking about, thinking about that car, and then thinking about a Taycan Turbo GT, and going, the quiet one would win in a drag race here.

• 1:36:25Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 1:36:26Matt Farah?

And I'm not saying that like, it's just like, like, I, I, I like air-cooled cars and analog cars and stick shift, like, for, to engage with machinery, for recreation, but like... Electric cars are just so obviously better. Like, they're just, it's just, it's better. Like, it's quiet, it doesn't get hot, it's like, you know what I mean? Like, there's not smelly shit coming out of the back of it, like. It's just so obviously better to achieve that same goal, even if, like, we like the worst thing just because we do it for fun.

• 1:36:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:36:58Matt Farah?

Crazy, crazy. Thank you to our patrons for such good questions. We'll save the remainders for, uh, for the next crew show. Thank you to everybody else for listening along. Uh, and then we'll have videos with the Zinger, we'll have videos with the DB12S, we'll have videos with something else, I'm forgetting.

• 1:37:31Speaker 01

  GT500?

• 1:37:32Matt Farah?

  The GT500.

• 1:37:33Speaker 01

  Uh, the Nismo?

• 1:37:34Matt Farah?

No, the Nismo, we already did, yeah. Um, that's it, see you later, bye.

• 1:38:47Matt Farah?

  The.

• 1:40:57Matt Farah?

  The.
