Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more. So, nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

That's J-I-R-A dot com. They drizzled it all across... Is that the right word, drizzled?

• 1:24Speaker 02

I think they don't do it.

• 1:26Speaker 01

  Megan Fox just emailed me.

• 1:29Speaker 02

Sorry. Okay, we'll read it for the class.

• 1:33Speaker 01

It's for a beeper party, anyway.

• 1:36Speaker 02

No, no, no, no, no. Now, we need to know.

• 1:38Speaker 01

  You can't just leave that.

• 1:39Speaker 02

You need to read that email.

• 1:40Speaker 01

Just park that on the side and move on.

• 1:42David Imel?

  It's from Megan Fox.

• 1:43Speaker 02

Is it the real Megan Fox? Or is it like?

• 1:45Speaker 01

  Well, she is real.

• 1:51Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marques.

• 1:56Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:57David Imel?

  And I'm David.

• 1:58Speaker 01

This was WWDC week. Apple had their software announcement festivities slash... And I don't know what you want to call it.

• 2:07David Imel?

  Party, baby.

• 2:08Speaker 01

It's a developer conference, but it's also like... unveiling a bunch of new stuff.

• 2:11David Imel?

  Rager.

• 2:11Speaker 01

And, uh, yeah, there's, there's lots to talk about. There's Liquid Glass. There is iPad turning into a computer finally.

• 2:18Andrew Manganelli?

Guys, stop. I didn't do anything.

• 2:21Speaker 01

  He didn't say it yet.

• 2:23Speaker 01

  Fake workout buddies.

• 2:24David Imel?

  Everything's computer.

• 2:25Speaker 01

Everything is a computer. Um, lots of thoughts. This is the place where we give all of our thoughts. We've also, you have, you said you have the developer beta.

• 2:33David Imel?

  Everything.

• 2:33Speaker 01

  On everything?

• 2:34David Imel?

  On everything.

• 2:34Speaker 01

Okay, perfect. I've gotten some hands on time with iOS, iPadOS, macOS, all these developer betas, the Liquid Glass across all of them. I have a, a video I'll show you of my new scanned persona.

• 2:46David Imel?

  Oh.

• 2:47Speaker 01

From the Vision Pro. That got more interesting than I thought it would.

• 2:50Andrew Manganelli?

I want to see it, yeah.

• 2:51Speaker 01

I'll show you guys the video first up.

• 2:54David Imel?

  Let's do it.

• 2:54Andrew Manganelli?

We're just going straight into it?

• 2:55Speaker 01

  Yeah, I'll show you.

• 2:56Andrew Manganelli?

Subscribe if you want to see Marquez's new persona.

• 2:59David Imel?

  Yeah, just watch this video.

• 3:01Speaker 01

  This is my new.

• 3:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Your new high depth.

• 3:04Speaker 01

Vision OS, my Vision OS 26 persona.

• 3:08David Imel?

  Realistic meme emoji.

• 3:11Speaker 01

This is my new Vision Pro persona.

• 3:14Andrew Manganelli?

  That's what you just said.

• 3:15Speaker 01

I feel like I'm looking in the mirror.

• 3:18Andrew Manganelli?

Was this taken at like in a briefing?

• 3:20Speaker 01

Revolution and better looking than. So the textures are better? The face shape is not quite right?

• 3:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Your nose is very broad.

• 3:26Speaker 01

Do your lips move accurately? I think the skin tones and little sub variations in the skin tone and texture are more accurate and then the rest is about the same.

• 3:38David Imel?

Yeah, the face shape is like wider than your actual face.

• 3:41Andrew Manganelli?

  I think so, yeah.

• 3:42Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah, a little bit.

• 3:42Andrew Manganelli?

Cutout also reminds me of, um, what was the Google thing? Star?

• 3:48Speaker 01

  Starline?

• 3:49Andrew Manganelli?

Starline. It remember, it reminds me of like Starline one cutout of like, that's pretty good, but the more you look at it, the more blocky and like chopped off, like old bad portrait mode.

• 3:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 3:59David Imel?

Wait, Marquez, could you drop that video in the Slack for the big ballers?

• 4:02Speaker 01

  Already uploading?

• 4:02David Imel?

  Sweet.

• 4:03Speaker 01

Yes. So, yeah, I guess we can, we can talk about any number of these OSs. They're all labeled version 26 now. So if you were thinking, oh, this is only the third Vision OS. Oh, we know. It's just they call it Vision OS 26 now because they're all 26. We talked about this last week, how it's feels futuristic, even though it comes out during 2025.

• 4:21Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, who doesn't want iOS 26 at WWDC 25?

• 4:25Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 4:26David Imel?

On the Galaxy S25 Ultra. So on broad, an interesting point, are they gonna call the new iPhone, the iPhone 26 now? Cause it's gonna be a little awkward to have the iPhone 17 running iOS 26.

• 4:39Speaker 02

They're gonna call it the iPhone 9.

• 4:41David Imel?

  Oh, God.

• 4:42Andrew Manganelli?

Well, we skipped 9. Didn't match before, though.

• 4:43David Imel?

  Yeah. True.

• 4:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, I don't think they're going to.

• 4:48David Imel?

I don't think they will. Okay, so iPhone 17, iOS 26. We'll see.

• 4:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 4:54David Imel?

We should place, no, we'll see. Yeah, I guess we'll start.

• 4:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Speaking of a bet.

• 4:58David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 4:58Andrew Manganelli?

What was our over/under last week for how many times they'd say Siri? I think it was four.

• 5:03Speaker 02

  4.5 or something.

• 5:04David Imel?

And I said under. It turns out they said the word Siri two times total during the entire 90-minute presentation, that main keynote.

• 5:16Andrew Manganelli?

It was right off the riff.

• 5:17David Imel?

And they, it was right at the beginning and it was back to back and then they just didn't say the word again.

• 5:21Andrew Manganelli?

They, they like weirdly went, here's all the things Apple Intelligence brought. And it was like this big list that looked really impressive at first, but really it was a lot of very simple things. And then I have the quote here. It's just, we introduced enhancements, enhancements that makes Siri more natural, more helpful. And as we've shared, we're continuing our work to deliver more features to Siri to make it even more personal. This work needed more time to reach our high-quality bar and we look forward to sharing more in the coming year.

• 5:47David Imel?

Yeah. So there was, there was an interview that was done with Craig Federicki by Tom's Guide. That is very, it's like 30 minutes long. It's very good. You should go watch it. But he talks about it more in depth in there and he effectively said they had two architectures for like the AI Siri. And architecture one was working, but it wasn't like, the architecture wasn't implemented across the whole system or something like that. And so it was working and it was work for most things, but it didn't meet their quality standards. And he said, as soon as they realized they needed to use the second architecture, they knew it was gonna take way longer. And they immediately told everybody it's not ready.

• 6:26Speaker 01

I heard a similar answer from Craig talking to Joanna Stern in a Wall Street Journal video, something about stage one was good enough to demo, stage two took way too long.

• 6:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:35Speaker 01

Great. I mean, this is basically all we got as far as them addressing Siri in their main presentation, or at least the shortcomings of Apple Intelligence in the main presentation. And then they quickly moved on to just showing a ton of other stuff, which, in my opinion, was, it was a lot. It was quite a bit. I think it was enough to have some thoughts and some meat to chew on while we also wait for the rest of Apple Intelligence stuff and more AI features.

• 6:59David Imel?

I think the way that they addressed it was actually very smart, because they kind of took the like, bad is forever and delay is temporary approach, just saying like, we want this to be good, we have quality standards, just wait for it. I think that's always the best way to delay things, honestly.

• 7:14Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 7:15David Imel?

Uh, how it affects their stock price, I have no idea.

• 7:17Speaker 01

It didn't do very well, I don't think, when it got announced.

• 7:20David Imel?

You know, that's how it is. Anyway.

• 7:22Speaker 01

Well, we could talk about any number of these 26 versions of OS first, but I think the one that most people want to talk about is iOS 26.

• 7:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:29Speaker 01

So we should probably just jump in there. So.

• 7:32David Imel?

  Liquid.

• 7:33Speaker 01

New, yeah, liquid, liquid glass, everywhere. Liquid glass is the new aesthetic that is specifically the transparent and refractive, almost material design of all of these buttons and toggles and materials, the lock screen, the clock, the fonts, the windows, the everything.

• 7:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:55Speaker 01

And it's taking after a lot of what we've seen in Vision Pro. So, I am mixed on it. I've seen screenshots of it that look really good.

• 8:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:08Speaker 01

I've seen screenshots of it that look really bad.

• 8:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:12Speaker 01

I think the, the parts that look really good to me are like extra clean and look pretty minimal, and they're like buttons hiding out of the way, and nice animations, and things pop in and out, and the physics are nice, and I'm sure the haptics match.

• 8:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 8:26Speaker 01

The parts that look really bad are, okay, so there's this thing, and I talked about this briefly in videos, it's not super complicated. When you're editing a video and you're putting text in it, you try to find like a clean place in the video to put the text, right? And if you don't have any clean place to put the video, you can put a little background, like a little soft white or soft black, so that you can put the text on it, and it's contrasty and it's readable. If you don't, you can't read the text very well. And so with all this transparency, there are many instances that I saw where Apple is trying to do this really clever, like, dynamic switching of light on dark background and dark on light background. So you'll scroll past a dark Albemarle cover.

• 9:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:10Speaker 01

And all of the UI elements that you have, like, floating in this glass above it, turn light so that they stay readable.

• 9:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 9:16Speaker 01

And then you go past it to some white, empty space, and all of that stuff flips to dark so that it stays readable. And they try to do this really quickly and smoothly so that you don't really notice, but it's always readable. But there are so many instances of, like, scrolling or being halfway between a dark and a light where things just look weird and hard to read.

• 9:37David Imel?

Yeah, it's definitely relying a lot on the system to acknowledge what's on the screen.

• 9:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:43David Imel?

Obviously, I'm on the first developer beta, and it's not bugging right now, probably because I have this, like, dark widget near the top. When that dark widget is not there, most of the time, the text, just, it's almost unreadable. It actually darkens the background to allow it to be a little more readable. I think one of the primary problems right now that they may change once they do more developer betas is that the text is white on top of a mostly white translucent background on top of a light background. So it darkens the background automatically, but it doesn't always do that. And honestly, it's been not doing that most of the time. And I, again, I only think it's doing that because I have a black widget that's counting down right now.

• 10:26Speaker 01

  I think, yeah.

• 10:27Andrew Manganelli?

Our designers were very surprised when they first saw that. They're like, "That does not meet the, like, contrast standards," or whatever that they, you know, went to school for.

• 10:36Speaker 01

Yeah. It's bold. It's bold. It strikes me as a design that a lot of people are not going to copy. Some definitely will, they always do. But like, Apple showed an all-clear, all-glass home screen setup, where you have whatever wallpaper you want, and then all of your icons are clear, all your widgets are clear, everything is clear. That doesn't feel, that feels like a skin, like I installed on top of my phone.

• 11:01Andrew Manganelli?

Everyone was comparing it to like old Android skins from like 10 years ago.

• 11:04Speaker 01

Yes, it's, it's the look of the year. I don't know if this is gonna age very well. I don't want an all-clear setup. I mean, it's cool if you love your wallpaper, but like I need to be able to read the icons and the text, so.

• 11:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:16Speaker 01

Yeah, that didn't look great to me.

• 11:18David Imel?

Liquid glass in general, I think, is like very technically beautiful and impressive.

• 11:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:24David Imel?

And you can see like the light bending around certain elements and things like that.

• 11:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:28David Imel?

And like light refracting and it's awesome to like look at, but practically on a phone, it's like so distracting, like it's so much.

• 11:35Andrew Manganelli?

I thought for a lot of the things, it, besides the like transparent on transparent one.

• 11:41Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 11:41Andrew Manganelli?

Like the dark mode icons that still had that like sheen to it and a little bit of like depth. I thought those looked like, I think there was a dark mode photos, uh, like icon that looked really, really good.

• 11:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:55Andrew Manganelli?

And like just looking at David's phone right now, he's going through it. When you had the, um, just your lock screen up, like.

• 12:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:01Andrew Manganelli?

The background pieces looking, once it like opens up and it, it kind of has this like sheen to the edges of all the background pieces and the, the time fits really nicely in, that looks really good.

• 12:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:13Andrew Manganelli?

But then the transparent on transparent is the one we're all looking at because it's the most obvious. I think that looks terrible.

• 12:18Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah, there are new icon designs across the board. There's a new, I mean, we'll get to other OSs in a second, but there's, there's a new camera icon. There's a new phone icon. Slightly different looking icons that all still look familiar, but are just a little bit different.

• 12:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 12:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:35David Imel?

I would say it looks a lot like iOS 7, which I'm kinda digging in a strange way. I can kind of acknowledge that the design is not.

• 12:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I see that roof?

• 12:48David Imel?

Fantastic, or like it's not really what people expect for right now.

• 12:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:53David Imel?

In design history, but I do like that it's opinionated, because now we have Material 3 Expressive, which is very opinionated, and we have this, which is very opinionated. The surprise that I had was.

• 13:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Not opinionated, rebellious, remember?

• 13:09David Imel?

  Right.

• 13:11Speaker 01

Yeah, I I lost my train of thought.

• 13:13Speaker 02

  I'm sorry, dude.

• 13:14Speaker 01

No, it's okay. It's okay. Um, oh, it is more cartoony than I expected.

• 13:19David Imel?

  Bubbles, a lot of bubbles.

• 13:20Speaker 01

Just like the the icons and shapes.

• 13:23Andrew Manganelli?

The icon shapes, they they look really big on your.

• 13:26Speaker 01

  They are big.

• 13:26Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, that in itself feels personally, okay.

• 13:30Speaker 01

  That's an option.

• 13:30David Imel?

I need you guys to Google SpongeBob Bubble Buddy.

• 13:33Speaker 02

We don't, we don't have to.

• 13:38Speaker 01

Yeah, that's that's the new control.

• 13:40David Imel?

  Pretty much, yeah.

• 13:41Andrew Manganelli?

Was it Ellis who said this should have been called stained glass? I think you said that.

• 13:45David Imel?

No, that's would have been sick.

• 13:46Andrew Manganelli?

Well, you could have taken credit for it because it makes way more sense.

• 13:49David Imel?

  Not my style.

• 13:50Andrew Manganelli?

I like the, I don't know, Photos app looks great. I actually think that Spotify app looks really good.

• 13:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 13:55Andrew Manganelli?

But, I mean, my favorite part about this is every time any company tries to make all icons on a homepage look the same, there's always a couple apps that just don't match it. And I've seen a bunch of people post stuff already, like the ChatGPT app is just still a plain white app.

• 14:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:12Andrew Manganelli?

And the minute one icon doesn't match all the other ones, none of them match.

• 14:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 14:18Andrew Manganelli?

  It happens every time.

• 14:19Speaker 01

They also, so I think it was last year that they introduced the tinted icons, or was that two years ago?

• 14:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh.

• 14:24Speaker 01

I think it might have been two years.

• 14:25David Imel?

Maybe it was two years ago and they, those I I still, I think that's even more of a case of like, in like one or two instances, you can make it look decent, but otherwise it looks terrible. Uh, they also introduced this new clear one that they decided to highlight a lot for some reason.

• 14:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 14:42Speaker 01

I just, it's hard to distinguish anything. I do not know what they were thinking with that.

• 14:48Andrew Manganelli?

No, yeah, I think that's the one we were saying, like, that one makes the least sense out of all of it. It's the most eye catching. It's the reason everyone uses it in their thumbnail.

• 14:55Speaker 01

  It's gonna age the fastest.

• 14:56David Imel?

It looks bad, though. Like, you can't, like, in all the thumbnails, I'm like, I don't know what app that is. I don't know what app that is.

• 15:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:02David Imel?

You know, I, it's just confusing.

• 15:04Speaker 01

This is also maybe, and we can move on from it in a second, but this may also be a thing where when app developers who have third-party apps, they update their app icons, maybe they'll be a little bit more legible. Because as of right now, Apple's own apps, they've designed for this. And if they're not designed for this, then they can be automatically converted, but maybe they aren't as contrasty as they could be.

• 15:24David Imel?

  Right.

• 15:25Speaker 01

So, well, you can give it time. It's a public beta, or it's a developer beta now. It's very early.

• 15:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 15:30Speaker 01

  We'll see.

• 15:31David Imel?

I also want to say that like, using their stock wallpapers, all this stuff looks good, but like, using your own wallpapers, it looks much worse.

• 15:38Speaker 01

  Exactly, that's what I'm thinking.

• 15:40David Imel?

  It looks much worse.

• 15:41Speaker 01

  Legibility is gonna be challenging.

• 15:42David Imel?

I think that they designed some wallpapers that are just like a couple of colors that are also glassy and everything kind of works well together and they're dynamic so that it gets darker in certain times, but when you use your own wallpapers, it's like, ugh.

• 15:53Andrew Manganelli?

It's like when, remember when they first introduced the notch? All their wallpapers are very dark on the top, so you like, you couldn't see it. They know what they're doing.

• 16:00Speaker 01

Oh, they know what they're doing.

• 16:01Andrew Manganelli?

They know the things that aren't quite perfect and how to make them look fantastic.

• 16:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 16:05Andrew Manganelli?

When you put a picture of your kid up and it looks terrible.

• 16:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 16:08Speaker 02

  I, Ellis, also watched...

• 16:15Speaker 02

I was watching Dub Dub like the rest of us and was sort of like unimpressed by the Liquid Glass thing, but on Twitter, uh, this guy who works for Apple is an interface designer named Sean Corona Money, uh, who worked on Liquid Glass, posted this quick like 45 second video of just sort of demonstrating some of the things it can do, um, which I left in the show notes if you want to watch it yourself. Um, and it actually like completely changed how I felt about Liquid Glass because I sort of saw it in the same way I saw Windows Aero or Mac or like Aqua as like this overarching design language, but I think it's actually much more of a lighting engine because when you look at this sort of, it's all these closeups of the buttons and stuff.

• 17:00Speaker 02

And really what it enables you to do in your interfaces is have three-point lighting because there's specular highlights on all the, like, you actually get real rim lighting effects.

• 17:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:10Speaker 02

And I feel like what this actually brings to the table, you know, I'm not like an expert 3D renderer guy, I just sort of fool around with it, but things like rim lighting can be really intensive, like, compute-wise. And so if Apple figured out a way to like optimize a lot of these effects, like diffusion, specular highlights, things like that, and then package it in a way that developers can implement it really easily, à la, you know, our Vision Pro episode and talking about all these sort of APIs that they... They give developers. I don't believe they discussed APIs in like the 20 minute liquid glass specific talk, but I would be curious in about six to 12 months interviewing a bunch of developers

• 17:51Speaker 02

and learning about how, A, how hardware intensive these lighting effects are and then B, how as a developer, you're given the support to make your stuff this. I don't know. Watching this 45 second thing really changed my opinion on it to be like, yeah, actually, these are some potentially really powerful visual effects that might be packaged in a way that enables them to really be everywhere. Now, I agree that the more I've watched from Apple itself, the more impressed I am with how powerful and how intricate a lot of these effects are. If you've seen people do the like cursor hovering effect, instead of just being a bubble, it has like clear shape to the edges of the bubble. So the light sort of refracts differently around the edges versus the center. All these little things.

• 18:40Speaker 02

Or like on sliders where the rim, excuse me, on sliders when the rim lighting like changes depending on where you are in the slide.

• 18:47David Imel?

Which, by the way, for the Mac with the touch bar, they actually updated the touch bar to have

• 18:53Speaker 02

  There's still a touch bar?

• 18:54Speaker 01

  That's funny.

• 18:55David Imel?

On the Mac, well, the one that's

• 18:56Speaker 01

  The old one?

• 18:57David Imel?

The old one. They updated like a touch bar to be a liquid glass touch bar.

• 19:00Speaker 01

  That's so funny.

• 19:01Speaker 02

  Interesting.

• 19:02Speaker 01

But, you know, I, I see all of that and I, on one hand, I, I can be both impressed by how intricate and how powerful these effects are in real time and also think about, you know, your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn't think about whether or not they should.

• 19:21Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Some people are gonna make some really sick like themes and stuff on there and like with a great wallpaper that all matches and their home screens are gonna look incredible. And then some of our parents are gonna turn on the fully transparent one and try and call us to be like, why can I not read?

• 19:37Speaker 02

The icons are see-through. What the hell is this?

• 19:39David Imel?

Yeah, it's one of the questions that's like, if no, but if the average user can't make it look good, is it good design?

• 19:47Andrew Manganelli?

Which, if we're judging the average user, the iPhone is the phone to judge the average user on, like, the most normal people are using it.

• 19:55Speaker 02

But what if I want everything to look like a tennis ball, huh?

• 19:57David Imel?

  You call me a normie?

• 19:59Andrew Manganelli?

Real quick, did you notice when they introduced Liquid Glass, they called it an entirely new expressive material? When that happened, Adam was like-

• 20:07David Imel?

  Material, expressive, baby.

• 20:09Andrew Manganelli?

I thought that was very funny.

• 20:10Speaker 01

  Material 3 expressive?

• 20:11David Imel?

  Expressive.

• 20:12Speaker 01

  That's funny.

• 20:13David Imel?

Yeah, so they kinda, they drizzled it all across, is that the right word, drizzled?

• 20:18Andrew Manganelli?

I think they don't do it.

• 20:20David Imel?

  Megan Fox just emailed me.

• 20:25Speaker 04

Okay, we'll read it for the class.

• 20:27David Imel?

It's for a beeper party, anyway.

• 20:30Speaker 04

No, no, no, no, now we need to know.

• 20:32Speaker 01

  You can't just leave that.

• 20:33Speaker 04

You need to read that email.

• 20:34Speaker 01

Just park that on the side and move on.

• 20:36David Imel?

  From Megan Fox.

• 20:37Speaker 04

Is it the real Megan Fox, or is it like-

• 20:39David Imel?

  Well, she is real.

• 20:41Speaker 01

I mean, she knows you're on this podcast, right? She's gonna email you, she has to know this could be-

• 20:45David Imel?

We've got big beeper news to share, David.

• 20:47Speaker 04

Ask her what Shia LaBeouf was like on set.

• 20:50David Imel?

There's a beeper party? Okay, sorry, okay. They sprinkled Liquid Glass all over the interface, including the camera app. And there are sort of like all these different ways that they can show Liquid Glass. They have this developer talk where they basically talk about like where you should use the elements on top of each other and like if you should use it on like a dark background versus a lighter background.

• 21:14Speaker 04

State of the platforms, which was like right after, and it was very interesting.

• 21:18David Imel?

It was good, that's not what I'm talking about, though. They had a 20-minute just Liquid Glass deep dive for developers.

• 21:24Speaker 04

  Oh, just on Liquid Glass?

• 21:25David Imel?

Yeah, it was quite good. But in the camera app, they've simplified it a lot. So now it only really shows like two buttons at the same time, photo and video, near the bottom. But if you swipe around, all of a sudden it expands.

• 21:39Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 21:40David Imel?

So I think last week, I mentioned that I anticipated that they were going to be sort of playing off the dynamic island as the way to like expand Liquid Glass, which is kind of the same idea. It takes like one thing and then it kind of like dynamically expands and contracts out. So you can now just do this, you can swipe around it and it gets bigger and then it'll shrink. And if you want to get into more settings, because everything is hidden now, you just tap on the mode that you're on and it brings up more settings.

• 22:08Speaker 01

  Swipe up.

• 22:08Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, I have to explain this to audio listeners, because I feel like it's a little confusing. There's, so on the bottom of the camera app, there's- A cutout with two options, photo and video, and one is highlighted. You have to hold down on that to start swiping and then that it expands horizontally and then all the other modes come up.

• 22:27Speaker 01

Then it shows you cinematic mode, portrait mode, all the other stuff.

• 22:30Andrew Manganelli?

Can I see something real quick? I just want to try. So if I just click between these two, it'll, oh, okay. You can click and it opens up.

• 22:36Speaker 01

  You can also just swipe.

• 22:37Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. So my, like, my worry was if you can just click between both of these, no one's, so many people are never gonna know there's other options. But it does, it previews the extra options a little bit. So that actually is a good.

• 22:50Speaker 01

You tap video once and it sort of expands to show some more options.

• 22:54Andrew Manganelli?

Shows those options on both sides.

• 22:55Speaker 01

So I think it's sort of like teaching you that you're able to swipe around.

• 22:58Andrew Manganelli?

I do think people are going to have a hard time finding the settings part on clicking the thing that's already selected.

• 23:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:05Andrew Manganelli?

  But.

• 23:05Speaker 01

I'm imagining that Apple has a bunch of data that just says like 99% of people use photo and video mode only.

• 23:11Andrew Manganelli?

I, portrait mode is one that I assume a lot of people still use.

• 23:15Speaker 01

Isn't it like automatic portrait mode now?

• 23:18Andrew Manganelli?

  There's still.

• 23:19Speaker 04

  You can go back afterwards.

• 23:20Speaker 01

Yeah, automatically, if you take a photo of a subject, which it identifies as a subject, just people or animals, it automatically takes the depth information required to turn it into a portrait later.

• 23:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 23:31Speaker 01

So, so you might as well not even think about it anymore. Don't even worry.

• 23:35Andrew Manganelli?

Swiping between options down here and having it like the words kind of like refract on the sides is really nice. That's, that's a good.

• 23:44Speaker 04

I am not a fan of this camera redesign, like at all. It looks beautiful, but it's so not practical. It's like the Sigma camera.

• 23:52Speaker 01

I'm not a fan of you either. Well, okay. Again, there's two types of people.

• 23:56Andrew Manganelli?

Even though I love the Sigma camera.

• 23:57Speaker 01

  Who use their camera.

• 23:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Right and wrong.

• 23:58Speaker 01

Part, type of person number one, mainly, and I think what you said, David, is true with the data, they, they mainly just open the camera app, take a picture and leave. Or they open the camera app, flip it to a selfie. I took probably 500 selfies this past two days and I observed a lot of camera behavior in the last two days. And it's people just opening the camera, swipe, swipe, take selfie, close it. Like I saw that many times.

• 24:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Do you?

• 24:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:25Speaker 04

Remember when we were doing the old blind test, someone from Google reached out and said that like 80% of people don't even tap the screen to focus, they just take the photo.

• 24:34Speaker 01

They just frame it up, hit the shutter.

• 24:35Speaker 04

  It's wild.

• 24:36Speaker 01

  That's it.

• 24:36Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 24:37Speaker 01

And so that's one type of person. And I think this camera app is great for that type of person because it simplifies it. It hides the buttons they were gonna accidentally press and mess up their settings.

• 24:44Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 24:44Speaker 01

For the other type of person, Adam, you and I, I want to switch to 60 FPS sometimes, or 30, or I want to switch to 4K sometimes.

• 24:52Speaker 04

  60?

• 24:53Speaker 01

Yeah, once in a while. I might be doing a slow mo orbit and I'm gonna turn it down to 30 later. Like, I have buttons and things that I need to press a little more often, and this hides all that UI. And so it is a little bit less convenient for that second type.

• 25:04David Imel?

I actually talked to Sebastian Dewitt, who makes Halide. And he said he was really happy about the camera update because it makes it even simpler. So Halide looks like even more of a pro app.

• 25:14Speaker 04

I was gonna say, Halide is like the perfect interface.

• 25:17David Imel?

Yeah, because it's, for me, Halide, I like want the buttons everywhere.

• 25:20Speaker 01

That is really funny. Remind me to bring that up later when we talk about Raycast, because I feel the exact same way about that.

• 25:26Speaker 04

But I also think with this camera stuff that there are people that are just regular, open up the camera, take a picture, put it away, that one out of every 10 times do want to take like a slow mo video. Like, oh, the dog is running around the yard. Where is the slow mo? And then they have to go looking for it.

• 25:42David Imel?

I'd argue most of those people don't even know those features.

• 25:45Speaker 01

  Yeah, then who knows?

• 25:46Speaker 04

  I disagree.

• 25:47David Imel?

That's why Google Photos does all that stuff automatically.

• 25:49Speaker 04

  Those features exist.

• 25:50David Imel?

My mom does not know those features.

• 25:52Speaker 04

I think like people understand that they can take these photos with their phone. And even if nine out of 10 times they're not doing that, they know that they have the ability to. And now that ability is hidden.

• 26:02Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 26:02Andrew Manganelli?

Won't you be able to ask Siri how to do things inside of your phone?

• 26:07Speaker 04

  No.

• 26:08David Imel?

I don't know. I don't feel like my mom and dad know that there are more than the camera in the video.

• 26:13Speaker 04

Well, Adam's phone. Now they do because it's, it's all over the place. You see it. They don't choose it maybe, but like it's there.

• 26:19David Imel?

Yeah, it'll just happen and my dad will complain to me that it did it on its own. Something else. That's true. Something else they added that's very cool where it's that is quite ironic because they had aligned the cameras specifically for like, for like vision for the Parallax for Vision Pro. They now have a spatialized button that you can use on any image.

• 26:43Speaker 01

  It's kind of incredible.

• 26:43David Imel?

It's pretty incredible. So I took this photo in San Francisco. Look how instantly it spatializes it.

• 26:49Speaker 01

So for those who aren't, again, watching the video or can't see this, there's a button that you can press to turn any regular photo with a foreground and a background into a like movable, like 3D looking image where it sort of creates Parallax with the background and interprets what it thinks is behind things. So you can move around and peek around the image.

• 27:11David Imel?

It uses generative fill and it's like,

• 27:13Speaker 01

  It's really good.

• 27:13David Imel?

  Really good.

• 27:14Andrew Manganelli?

David, your phone is cooking right now.

• 27:16David Imel?

Oh, it's hot as hell. Oh, it's very hot.

• 27:18Speaker 01

I'm definitely gonna do a short on this later because this is, it was super impressive and you could do this in the Vision Pro as well. This is, this is an Apple Intelligence feature, basically.

• 27:27David Imel?

Look at this one. Look at this.

• 27:28Andrew Manganelli?

  That's really good.

• 27:28David Imel?

  Is that not amazing?

• 27:30Speaker 01

  Wild.

• 27:30David Imel?

And I understand that this is kind of gimmicky.

• 27:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:33David Imel?

It's just to do for fun and,

• 27:35Speaker 01

But as a lock screen wallpaper?

• 27:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, absolutely. It's really cool.

• 27:38David Imel?

You can use it as a lock screen wallpaper, right?

• 27:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:40David Imel?

  I mean, that's amazing.

• 27:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:41David Imel?

We're back to Android 4, baby. I love that. We're bringing back all the crazy weird gadgety features that we had in like Android 5.

• 27:49Speaker 01

  My wallpaper move.

• 27:50David Imel?

  Oh, it's so good.

• 27:51Andrew Manganelli?

And in five years, we'll be like, oh, it's so dated.

• 27:53Speaker 01

Yeah, look how the depth is crazy.

• 27:55Andrew Manganelli?

Can I ask a question about the camera?

• 27:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 27:57Andrew Manganelli?

What is the, um, is the interface for the like camera button? What was that called? Not camera button?

• 28:02Speaker 01

  Camera control.

• 28:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Camera control.

• 28:03Speaker 01

  Still works. All still hidden.

• 28:05Andrew Manganelli?

What does it look like when you slide on the side? Oh, the same?

• 28:08David Imel?

The same as it used to.

• 28:09Andrew Manganelli?

  It's not liquid glass?

• 28:11David Imel?

Uh, it has diffraction on the bottom and the top.

• 28:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 28:14Speaker 01

Yeah, everything's a little more glassy.

• 28:17David Imel?

Yeah, I do hit that accidentally all the time.

• 28:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:21David Imel?

  Yeah. Yeah.

• 28:24Speaker 01

  Two new phone app features.

• 28:26David Imel?

  Right.

• 28:27Speaker 01

Call screening. I mean, I use this on my Samsung and Pixel phones all the time. And hold for me.

• 28:34David Imel?

  They're not called that.

• 28:35Speaker 01

They're not. They're not called that, but they're exactly what they sound like.

• 28:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 28:38Speaker 01

It will let you. So actually distinction. On the Pixel, every call I get, I can decide to screen it or not.

• 28:45David Imel?

  Right.

• 28:45Speaker 01

So if I'm getting an unknown number, I can screen it. If I'm getting UPS, I can screen it. If I'm getting David, I can be like, yeah, let's screen him too.

• 28:51David Imel?

  Wow.

• 28:51Speaker 01

Or not, if I don't want to.

• 28:53David Imel?

  I have an emergency, Marquez.

• 28:54Speaker 01

Yeah. But on the iPhone, it is a setting you can turn on or off where either nothing gets screened or all unknown numbers get screened. And so if you turn on all unknown numbers get screened and some random person calls you and you don't know who it is, it won't ring your phone until it picks up.

• 29:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 29:11Speaker 01

And it literally like a Siri like voice goes, hi, I am, I'm like here to listen to whatever you have to say and deliver the message to the person and they might answer. And then they talk and then it gets transcribed and shown on your screen, then your phone rings.

• 29:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 29:24Speaker 01

So you check your phone and it's an unknown number with a message on the screen from what they said to that assistant. And then you can pick up or not.

• 29:30David Imel?

  My dream.

• 29:31Speaker 01

Or deliver a nice little, this person doesn't want to talk to you message and it will just hang up for you. Which is funny. Anyway. I like it. This is built in.

• 29:38Andrew Manganelli?

  All unknown numbers?

• 29:40Speaker 01

Either none or all unknown numbers.

• 29:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 29:42Andrew Manganelli?

I can't tell if I think that's great or terrible.

• 29:44Speaker 01

  It's pretty broad.

• 29:45David Imel?

  It's terrible.

• 29:45Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's terrible.

• 29:46Speaker 01

Hey, well, there is. It's funny because there's some unknown numbers where I'm waiting for a call, like an insurance adjuster or something like that. And I just need it to pick up. And there are others where it's just a spam call and it's clearly not going to get through, which is great.

• 30:00David Imel?

  99%, yeah.

• 30:01Speaker 01

  So.

• 30:02Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like there's a lot where you're like expecting a call from somebody, but not someone that I've already saved their number into my phone. And like if Lane's daycare, if I just see a call from.

• 30:15David Imel?

  That should be saved.

• 30:16Andrew Manganelli?

Docs myself, but like, well, no, because the teachers have different phones. They might just be calling from their own phone. So like, if I see it from that area, I'm probably going to pick up thinking like, oh, she might be sick.

• 30:26David Imel?

Yeah, but I get a lot of phone calls from my home area code that are all spam.

• 30:31Andrew Manganelli?

That's true, but I feel like, and the amount of people though, the thing on top of that is the amount of people who then hear the like robot voice are just like. Was this the wrong number? Am I hanging up before they even know?

• 30:42David Imel?

  Yeah, for sure.

• 30:42Speaker 01

It does instantly pick up. So your phone, the phone, when you call, I got a demo of this. It barely even rings. So you, you, unknown person calls you, as soon as they like connect, it just goes, hi, I'm Siri, I'm listening. Like, tell me what you need to know. And then you can say whatever you want and the person will get a transcript. I think it's great.

• 31:03Speaker 02

Well, I have a, I have an Android question.

• 31:06Speaker 01

  Mm hmm.

• 31:06Speaker 02

Because now, call me Marques Brownlee, I'm using Android and iOS at the same time right now.

• 31:10Speaker 01

  Very nice.

• 31:11Speaker 02

But I found that on the Android phone I'm using,

• 31:15Speaker 02

if someone calls me from an unknown number, and that number is listed, is associated with a business in Google Maps, it won't show me the number. It'll just show me the name of the business. Is that like standard across all?

• 31:26Speaker 01

  Most Android phones, yeah.

• 31:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 31:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 31:29David Imel?

  It's good.

• 31:29Andrew Manganelli?

It doesn't always work perfectly like that.

• 31:31Speaker 02

Oh, really? It's worked 100%. Anyway, that's what's, that's what made me like, feel like I didn't need call screening. I feel like I'd rather have that than ever you call.

• 31:38Speaker 01

Yeah. But even like a random delivery person where it won't show up as UPS, but it's a delivery guy needs to like get in touch.

• 31:44Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, the poor DoorDash people have to talk to Siri every time. It's like, I'm at your door.

• 31:50Speaker 01

That's the example. That's the example they gave in the keynote. It was, hi, this is Greg downstairs with a flower delivery. I'll wait another minute before I have to move on to the next one.

• 31:59David Imel?

Yeah, but by the time you actually pick up the minutes over.

• 32:03Speaker 04

Can I just say my favorite subplot of this podcast in the last couple of weeks has been Ellis discovering Android features in real time.

• 32:10Andrew Manganelli?

That's what Dub Dub felt like.

• 32:11Speaker 01

Yeah. Strap in, there's a lot more coming.

• 32:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 32:14Speaker 01

  There's a lot more coming.

• 32:15David Imel?

I do also think it's very beautiful that Google literally has, they have it, have had this for so long that people have just solidified the naming schemes that Google have given these features. So I was in a briefing where they were like talking about all these features. And someone was like, can you explain how call screening works? And they're like, so it's not called call screening?

• 32:36Speaker 01

  It's called this new thing.

• 32:37David Imel?

  It was amazing.

• 32:38Speaker 01

Yeah. The other one is Hold Assist is what they're calling it.

• 32:40David Imel?

Yeah, they said Hold for me too.

• 32:42Speaker 01

Yeah, Hold for me is the Google branded version. But you're on, you're on a call and you go, uh, it's like 20 minutes of hold music. I don't feel like waiting. You just have it hold for you and as soon as somebody picks up, it will ring you and you can join the call again.

• 32:54David Imel?

  So good.

• 32:55Speaker 01

  Thanks for holding for me.

• 32:55David Imel?

  So good.

• 32:56Speaker 01

So those are nice. Uh, what else is new to iOS 26?

• 33:00David Imel?

Well, in the phone app, there's also a new phone app design. So it shows like, there's now a contacts cards, like favorites list at the top.

• 33:07Speaker 01

  It's all together.

• 33:08David Imel?

  Which is nice.

• 33:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:09David Imel?

Um, yeah, they redesigned it a little bit. It's a lot simpler. There's only like three things at the bottom now and then a little search bar has the new, uh, liquid glass design. Uh, and they also separated calls, missed calls, voicemails, spam into these little sub menus. So this is actually a theme throughout quite a bit of the OS where they have created these sub menus for things that you probably don't want to deal with. For example, segue into messages app, uh, in the messages app, thank you.

• 33:37Speaker 01

  Smooth.

• 33:37David Imel?

Very good. In the messages app, they've also included this sub menu that really is the hamburger menu, but tilted 90 degrees. Uh, and when you click it, it also now has a unknown senders folder.

• 33:49Speaker 01

  Wait, what?

• 33:50David Imel?

  Yeah, in the messages app.

• 33:51Speaker 01

For like hamburger menu tilted 90 degrees?

• 33:54David Imel?

Oh wait, no, it's not tilted 90 degrees.

• 33:56Speaker 01

  No, it's.

• 33:56David Imel?

It's just the hamburger menu, but it's not.

• 33:58Speaker 01

  It's like, uh.

• 33:59David Imel?

  Even, it's cascading.

• 34:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 34:01David Imel?

  So it's different.

• 34:03Speaker 02

I was just laughing at like hamburger menu, like cheeseburger, bacon burger, like. The word menu with like a food item.

• 34:09David Imel?

Pork burger. But anyway, so yeah, now I think that a big theme of this that is like un sort of, unspoken is that they're trying to get, they're trying to fight like spammers basically. So just like in the phone app, how they had like the unknown senders thing and they have all those features where unknown senders can't get to you. They now have a like spam and unknown senders folder that are here. They also have a filter for unread, which is very nice. So everything will trickle to the top. And, uh, yeah, it's, it's different now. I keep getting tripped up because the cert, there's a search button at the bottom now, which you have to click to like be able to find, um, other people and it used to be at the top.

• 34:49David Imel?

But overall, I really liked the messages redesign. Also, if you want to see something really chaotic, they added backgrounds. They added backgrounds.

• 34:59Speaker 01

  Inside of an iMessage thread.

• 35:01David Imel?

  I have this Aurora.

• 35:02Andrew Manganelli?

That took like longer to load than I would have liked.

• 35:05David Imel?

  Oh, yes, it did, baby.

• 35:06Speaker 01

  Maybe a beta thing.

• 35:08David Imel?

Um, so we have a live Aurora going on here. They have like live. A lot of this really feels like early Android stuff.

• 35:14Speaker 01

Well, this is WhatsApp, just basically them adding feature, like the multiple people in a group chat typing indicators. Just things other, other group chats have had for a while.

• 35:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 35:23Speaker 01

Backgrounds, polls, all these things that you could do in other chat apps that you can now do in iMessage.

• 35:29Andrew Manganelli?

Can't wait to see what Android people get in a group message that gets sent a poll. Actually, can you test it right now?

• 35:34David Imel?

  You want to test?

• 35:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Can you send a poll?

• 35:36Speaker 01

Yeah. Throw me and Andrew in a group chat and see what the poll looks like.

• 35:39David Imel?

It won't, it won't show up for Andrew, right?

• 35:41Andrew Manganelli?

Well, am I going to get a message that's like, David posted a poll, A, B, C, and all different messages?

• 35:50Speaker 01

Votes one by one? That would be horrible.

• 35:51David Imel?

  That'd be very funny. Okay.

• 35:53Speaker 01

While David sets that up, uh, we have been avoiding the elephant in the room. Um, so I'm glad that we've gotten to this point. Uh, live translation.

• 36:03Speaker 01

It's the year of live translation, 2025. We didn't know it was going to happen so fast, but clearly.

• 36:10Speaker 02

  One of us did.

• 36:11Speaker 01

Yeah. On-device models are proving useful in messages, FaceTime and phone. In all of the ways you're imagining, you can now have a conversation with someone who speaks a different language. It will understand what you're saying and translate it in your voice and then understand what the other person's saying and translate it so that you can hear it. Boom. Anyone in the world can talk to anyone in the world through the live translate feature.

• 36:36Andrew Manganelli?

Was it anyone in the world? It's not all.

• 36:37Speaker 02

  I just want to say.

• 36:38Speaker 01

  It's only like seven languages.

• 36:40David Imel?

  Translate.

• 36:41Speaker 02

You know, as the, the biggest believer and strongest backer of live translation. As someone who's been in the trenches rooting for this hand over fist for, for years. You're welcome, world.

• 36:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:57Speaker 02

Uh, you know, I think, I think because of me bringing this about, all wars will end.

• 37:04Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 37:04Speaker 02

Um, we'll achieve world peace at like a record rate. No one will be hungry anymore.

• 37:09Speaker 01

Cause of all those translation errors.

• 37:10Speaker 02

Cause, because of, yeah, because that's where it all went wrong, you know? Now we just got to make sure everyone has AirPods and an iPhone and is willing to like read stuff.

• 37:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:23Andrew Manganelli?

Lost me on the last one.

• 37:26Speaker 01

Okay, can one of you text me in German?

• 37:27Andrew Manganelli?

  I did already.

• 37:28Speaker 01

  What did you text?

• 37:29Andrew Manganelli?

Well, it's still downloading the language.

• 37:30Speaker 01

  Yeah, it is.

• 37:33Speaker 02

But there's no point in me being defensive here, right? Like, I've been kind of getting mopped up in the past few weeks on my, on my live translation take. But I will, I do want to say, you know, it is a little bit like they just kind of did voice to text. And then Apple Translate and then our voicing that.

• 37:51Andrew Manganelli?

What'd you think was gonna happen?

• 37:52Speaker 01

  That's exactly.

• 37:53Speaker 02

Well, but no, no, no, but, but their, their demonstration had all this like, like latent, like it didn't seem fundamentally different than what David did in the taxi cab. You know what I mean? Like, and I know, I'm not trying to move the goalpost. It's live. I get it.

• 38:09Speaker 01

It, the, the demo on stage was, it had just enough lag for me to go like, yeah, that seems about right.

• 38:14Speaker 02

Yeah, but we're not quite at like Star Trek, you know?

• 38:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:19Speaker 02

We're not quite at, at Skype levels of, of live translation.

• 38:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:23Speaker 02

Uh, I don't remember what I said I would do. I think it had something to do with hot sauce.

• 38:28Speaker 01

Oh, did you make a promise?

• 38:32Speaker 01

You know, can I talk about that for a second?

• 38:33Speaker 02

  I can't.

• 38:34Speaker 01

Can I talk about this? This is totally off topic, but I'm gonna bring it up anyway. Uh, I did, I, remember I made that video about, uh, the, uh, robotaxi event, the Tesla robotaxi? I, I made a promise in that video. I made a promise in that video that was very, very clear. And if you want to even roll the clip, you can play it back. And I said.

• 38:51Speaker 02

He gets on stage, he says, we're gonna have this vehicle out for $30,000 before 2027. No, they're not. There's just no way that they're actually going to be able to do that. I mean, if they, if they do, let's say they do, I will shave my head on camera.

• 39:09Speaker 01

You know, there was a moment on stage where Elon said, yeah, we are going to deliver this robotaxi that's going to drive around and do, you know, robotaxi things. And it's going to be under $30,000 by 2027. And I said, No, you won't. That specific thing? I don't think so. And if you do, I'll shave my head.

• 39:29David Imel?

  If it do.

• 39:30Speaker 01

Now, take that out of context of me going, I don't believe in it. A lot of people have seen like beta tests of like Model Ys as robo taxis in Austin in limited capacity and gone, ah, they did it. Marquez, you have to shave your head. No, no, no, no, no, no. You don't get to rephrase my original bet. I bet. I, my mentions on Twitter are filled with, and I assume this is just engagement bait, but of many people going, hey, Marquez, they finally are doing, or they're about to do the thing. Where's the barber shop? Get ready to shave your head type stuff.

• 40:04Andrew Manganelli?

  That's not.

• 40:05Speaker 01

  No.

• 40:05Andrew Manganelli?

That was the nicest way possible of putting that. That's not what they're saying.

• 40:08Speaker 01

Yeah, the bet, uh, the bet was specifically, just as a reminder, $30,000 or less, robo cab, the taxi thing, the gold thing with two doors, blah, blah, all that, delivered to a customer before 2027. So that's the bet. So for those of all who are misquoting me online and trying to sort of change the goalposts on me.

• 40:29David Imel?

  Well, my haters.

• 40:30Speaker 01

You know, look, it, look, it worked. I'm glad you're thinking about me a lot and, and tagging me every time there's a new announcement. It's great, but, uh, yeah, I get it straight.

• 40:38David Imel?

  So Live Translation.

• 40:39Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:41Andrew Manganelli?

  That did do it.

• 40:42David Imel?

It did do it. So the way this works, they put Live Translation across the OS, which is quite cool. So they have it in messages. They have it in the phone app now. The way it works in messages is you have to download the language that you're going to be translating. And so when people send text in that message, it shows it in your language, but it shows their language slightly smaller above it.

• 41:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:04David Imel?

Uh, which is pretty cool. And then in the phone app, the way it works, which is a little bit, I'm not sure this is going to work in practice because it, because it was a little slow. But basically if you're on the phone with someone speaking another language. You can speak your language and then a couple of seconds goes by and then a really bad robot voice speaks out in their language and then they say the thing and then a couple of seconds goes by.

• 41:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 41:29David Imel?

  And a really bad robot.

• 41:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Like a poorly dubbed movie.

• 41:32David Imel?

It was pretty bad. I was kinda surprised considering how good these AI voice models have gotten recently. I was pretty surprised at how bad the AI voice was. But that's the live translation. You do not in fact have to stick your waxy ear- AirPod in somebody else's ear.

• 41:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 41:50David Imel?

  Huge.

• 41:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Would have been perfect.

• 41:51David Imel?

  So, pretty huge if true.

• 41:53Speaker 01

Anything else we want to do in iOS 26 before we take a quick break?

• 41:56David Imel?

I'm sure there's other stuff. There's the Games app.

• 41:58Speaker 01

There is a new Games app.

• 42:00Andrew Manganelli?

There is a Games app where you can challenge your friends to a bunch of games, but you still can't.

• 42:05David Imel?

  Do group fitness challenges.

• 42:06Andrew Manganelli?

Do group fitness challenges. It was literally called, it said challenges, right?

• 42:09Speaker 01

  Cowards.

• 42:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:10Andrew Manganelli?

Adam was like, oh my god, they might add it to, we'll get to what they actually added later.

• 42:15David Imel?

Yeah. So the new Games app is pretty much exactly what we talked about. It just kind of groups all of the games on your iPhone into one place. It also has a little tab for Apple Arcade as a tab where you can play together with other friends, which is kinda nice, like if you wanna, you know, group game. And it just shows you your library. So it's not that different.

• 42:32Speaker 01

It's a bunch of games in one place.

• 42:33David Imel?

Yeah, it's just a bunch of stuff in one place. Now, they also have a preview app, dedicated preview app. This did not used to exist on the phone or the iPad. Now it is on the phone and the iPad.

• 42:44Andrew Manganelli?

I'm super excited for that on the iPad.

• 42:46David Imel?

Um, yeah, it's, it's really nice on MacBook because you can do like markup and stuff. You can edit documents.

• 42:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Same with the iPad.

• 42:54David Imel?

And same with the iPad. I'm like.

• 42:56Andrew Manganelli?

  With a pencil, baby.

• 42:57David Imel?

I am glad it's on here now though, because like usually when I have to sign NDAs and stuff, it's very frustrating.

• 43:03Speaker 01

  Just open the Mac.

• 43:03David Imel?

I usually just airdrop it to my Mac and then sign on the Mac and then send the email, so.

• 43:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 43:08David Imel?

That is much nicer. Uh, what else did they change? I feel like we have other stuff, right?

• 43:13Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, since everything is so cohesive between all of them, I'm sure as we talk about other products, we'll probably remember something that happened in iOS. So if we wanna trivia and break and talk about that.

• 43:24David Imel?

  Yeah. Besides Apple Wallet.

• 43:26Speaker 04

Which no one cares about, so.

• 43:28David Imel?

Yeah, yeah, they added, they added support for new drivers licenses, which nobody is.

• 43:32Speaker 01

  For about seven.

• 43:34Andrew Manganelli?

New Jersey least compliant real ID state in the country.

• 43:38Speaker 04

  Nice, let's go.

• 43:40David Imel?

We are number one. We are number one. Okay, let's do trivia.

• 43:52Speaker 02

  Boys.

• 43:53David Imel?

  Boys.

• 43:54Speaker 02

You know what time it is? We had an event, which means.

• 43:58Speaker 05

  Were you paying attention?

• 44:00Speaker 02

That's right. Another instance of were you paying attention? Question number one. Craig Federighi opened up his, actually one of his segments. He was, there was a lot of Craig.

• 44:11David Imel?

I think he's gonna be the next CEO.

• 44:14Speaker 02

  You really think so?

• 44:14David Imel?

I think so. He's like their most visual person. Tim Cook was barely in Dub Dub at all.

• 44:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 44:21David Imel?

  You notice that?

• 44:21Speaker 01

Well, he always does a thing where he bookends things. Yeah, but he's usually in it a little bit more. He, he gives the, the overarching value and then he closes it at the end.

• 44:32David Imel?

He usually has little segments in between where he's like, we love what you're gonna do with iPad OS. So next, here's Craig.

• 44:39Speaker 01

Well, Craig is the software guy and this is Dub Dub. Yeah.

• 44:42David Imel?

  Yeah, that's fair.

• 44:43Speaker 01

  So it's kind of his.

• 44:43David Imel?

I still think he's gonna be next CEO.

• 44:45Speaker 02

  Anywho.

• 44:46Speaker 01

I think watch the next iPhone event. It's just Ternus over and over again, or Mac stuff.

• 44:50David Imel?

I mean, I like Ternus, he's nice, but.

• 44:51Speaker 02

Yeah, this is interesting. This is interesting. But!

• 44:56Speaker 02

During his macOS segment, Craig Federighi made his normal joke. He was like, the Apple crack product marketing team went so on some retreat, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. This year, because it was Tahoe, they, it was a ski trip. I don't know if you remember that. And to test whether or not you were paying attention, I want to know what word did Craig use to describe the tracks left in the snow by the product marketing team?

• 47:45David Imel?

  Do you have anything easier?

• 47:47Speaker 01

I would just say, I was paying attention.

• 47:50Speaker 02

That's like hyper specific. If you were actually paying attention, this word would have really stuck out because even he looked uncomfortable saying it. And it is possibly the least Apple word that has ever been used in one of these things.

• 48:01David Imel?

You know how one time the trivia question was, what was David's last job? What about?

• 48:06Speaker 02

Well, I do have a, I do have a backup that's dumb easy.

• 48:08David Imel?

  You should make it.

• 48:09Speaker 02

Which is what, what song was playing during the F1 trailer? But no one wants to do that.

• 48:15David Imel?

No, no, you should have, yeah, you should have done. Yeah, we all know that one. What, what was David's hometown?

• 48:22Speaker 01

Yeah, that would be, that would be good.

• 48:24David Imel?

  Tahoe.

• 48:25Speaker 02

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, we're, we're going to break. Think about this. It's in your brain, you guys. You got, if you guys were truly, you know, it.

• 48:34Speaker 01

Yeah, I was, I was paying attention, but I was also doing that thing where I was live tweeting the event and also taking notes for a video that I was going to make all at the same time. It's like a skill issue. So this one might've just hit the, it might've gone out the other ear and I just.

• 48:49Speaker 02

What you should have done isn't, is, is.

• 48:52David Imel?

  Memorize the script.

• 48:53Speaker 02

Open up your, your MacBook, start a Google Meet with yourself. Get Gemini to record and make a transcript of it as if, anyway, let's go to break. We'll see you guys in a sec.

• 49:22Speaker 02

All right, welcome back. We've got way more Dub Dub to talk about, all of the 26s, all the software stuff. David, you had one more thing about the iPhone?

• 49:29David Imel?

One more thing about that. So, um, I didn't know where to sleep at Dub Dub, so I called up Christian Selig and, uh, the ex-developer of Apollo. And I crashed his Airbnb with a bunch of other developers and it was fun. And one of those developers told me that, uh, they actually introduced an alarm kit API.

• 49:51Speaker 02

This is so far the most David string of sentences I've ever heard. Keep going.

• 49:56David Imel?

  That's federated. I'm kidding.

• 49:59Speaker 01

But previously, the only alarm you could use on your iPhone was the freaking clock app.

• 50:07David Imel?

  Right.

• 50:07Speaker 01

  I didn't even know that.

• 50:09David Imel?

So now any app can set an alarm?

• 50:12Speaker 01

  Uh, yeah.

• 50:13Speaker 04

I saw developers making jokes about this, like, will they now put, let me put an alarm in my, like, Notes app? Blah, blah, blah, blah.

• 50:19Speaker 01

I mean, that's dope. Is that not dope?

• 50:21Speaker 04

No, I agree. It's sick. I can't wait to see all the cool alarms. Like, do you remember the rock alarm? From back in the day?

• 50:27Speaker 01

  The rock alarm?

• 50:27Speaker 04

Oh, didn't it just, it just woke you up whenever the rock woke up?

• 50:30Speaker 01

  Whenever the rock woke up?

• 50:31Speaker 04

At like four in the morning.

• 50:32Speaker 01

I want that back. That's what I want.

• 50:34David Imel?

  Oh, yes. Oh, yeah.

• 50:35Speaker 01

Time to bring that up back.

• 50:36David Imel?

So I think that's pretty cool. Um, yeah, that was pretty neat. And then also, they added the Apple Intelligence, like, app, like, app actions API thing. So now you can, like, use an app intense. You can now, like, use a lot of Apple Intelligence features within your app as you're developing it, and it all happens on the iPhone, which is also very cool.

• 50:59Speaker 04

But Apple Intelligence isn't good yet.

• 51:02David Imel?

I know. But you can do, like, visual intelligence and stuff within your app now.

• 51:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 51:06David Imel?

So I think that's also useful. Yeah, summaries. You can do all that stuff in your app, and it's not just in Apple's app, apps. So that's very good, and I am excited to see what that does. So now we're done.

• 51:18Speaker 01

  All right.

• 51:18David Imel?

  And it's federated.

• 51:20Speaker 01

We have a bunch of other OSs we could talk about. We could talk about macOS. We could talk about iPadOS.

• 51:25Speaker 04

  What's the difference?

• 51:27David Imel?

  Ayo, got it.

• 51:28Speaker 01

Not wrong. Uh, or watchOS, or tvOS, or visionOS.

• 51:31Speaker 04

  Can I make a suggestion?

• 51:32Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 51:32Speaker 04

Yeah. Can we do, like, a rapid-fire watchOS, tvOS?

• 51:36Speaker 01

  Good call.

• 51:36Speaker 04

To get them out the way because...

• 51:38Speaker 01

Yeah, because we're gonna forget at the end.

• 51:39Speaker 04

We're gonna forget. No one cares. Let's just do it now.

• 51:41Speaker 01

Let me blast through the small ones. Okay, tvOS got a slight new visual, like, coat of paint, right?

• 51:47David Imel?

  Barely.

• 51:47Speaker 01

New, glassy, etc. That's kind of all that it did, and there's also some content.

• 51:52Speaker 04

  It stripped the paint.

• 51:53Speaker 01

It was already very glossy. Yeah. Great. WatchOS also new glossier, glassier touchpoints. There's also new smart Siri, what is it called? Shortcut? Smart Siri widgets?

• 52:05David Imel?

  Smart stacks?

• 52:06Speaker 01

  Smart stacks?

• 52:07David Imel?

  Better smart stacks.

• 52:07Speaker 01

Better smart stacks that are more live. Great. You can also, I really like the swipe to dismiss. That little wrist swipe, swipe to dismiss.

• 52:16David Imel?

I flick thing. By the way, I don't like that because this morning, yeah, this morning I got an email.

• 52:20Speaker 01

  Oh, you're running the beta.

• 52:21David Imel?

Yeah, I'm running the beta. I got an email and the email like popped up here and I was like, oh, and I went like this. And because I flicked too fast, it dismissed it.

• 52:29Andrew Manganelli?

Oh. It should definitely only be away from you.

• 52:31David Imel?

It did it when I did it towards me.

• 52:33Speaker 01

Quick away back is like the dismiss.

• 52:35David Imel?

Oh, I just got an email.

• 52:36Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like, oh, yeah. Like, so it's like you're flipping it off your watch. It's literally supposed to, I think, feel like you're just, just like.

• 52:43David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 52:44Speaker 01

  Throwing it off your watch.

• 52:45David Imel?

Maybe it just messed up or maybe it's just a beta.

• 52:47Speaker 01

I thought it was cool. The beta hopefully gets less buggy. And then also this Workout Buddy, which is like a Spotify DJ for workouts. It's almost exactly what you're thinking. It's just a new voice that like looks at your workout data and every once in a while goes, "Great work. You're a mile in. Your part rate is 162."

• 53:06David Imel?

It's way too happy. It's like, wow, you're such a killer runner. You ran 12.4 miles last week. Way to go. I wanted to be like, you're such a piece of garbage. You haven't ran in three weeks. What the heck are you doing with this?

• 53:20Andrew Manganelli?

  On your couch again?

• 53:21Speaker 01

They were pumped about that. It was trained on the voices of Apple fitness trainers. So it's like, literally you have your own trainer with you and you're like on your run with you. Cool. Great.

• 53:30Andrew Manganelli?

It'd be great if it's like, hey dumbass, you forgot to stop this workout. I know you're sitting on the couch right now.

• 53:35Speaker 01

Yeah. And then Vision OS, Vision OS got one really, really, really, really, really cool thing that I don't think is that useful, but it's still pretty cool. Widgets, pin them anywhere. They have like a depth effect.

• 53:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, the depth is cool.

• 53:47Speaker 01

Did you see, have you tried Vision OS 26?

• 53:50David Imel?

  I've not tried it yet.

• 53:50Speaker 01

If you pin a panorama photo to a wall in a frame.

• 53:55David Imel?

  Just for me.

• 53:55Speaker 01

You walk past that thing and it looks like a window. I promise you walk past it and you can like look around the panorama through the window, which isn't that revolutionary. You could already look around a panorama, but just the depth effect and being pinned to the wall. It was something sick.

• 54:10David Imel?

  By the way.

• 54:11Speaker 01

You can also do clocks and stuff.

• 54:11David Imel?

I do, uh, I do sell panoramic wallpaper packs on my website, davidmall.com, if you wanna go put on your Vision Pro.

• 54:18Speaker 01

  I'm just saying.

• 54:18David Imel?

  Which nobody's gonna do.

• 54:21Andrew Manganelli?

The which is also like, the depth wasn't just out, it was like

• 54:24Speaker 01

  It was like in.

• 54:24Andrew Manganelli?

protruding in, which looked really, really good.

• 54:27Speaker 01

  It did, okay.

• 54:28David Imel?

And, and, there's persistent app pinning now.

• 54:31Speaker 01

  Thank god.

• 54:32David Imel?

So now, oh my goodness, this is what everyone's been asking for. Now you can just put on the headset and all of your stuff is pinned where it's supposed to be instead of having to reset it up every single time.

• 54:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 54:42David Imel?

And that's a huge, huge, huge update.

• 54:44Andrew Manganelli?

There was something that I caught reading about this, that I didn't hear there, and I'm wondering if either of you heard about in the briefings, but there's now Premiere Pro support in Vision Pro?

• 54:53Speaker 01

There, there's gonna be like a Premiere Flash, like a small

• 54:57Andrew Manganelli?

Like an app inside of it. It said mostly for like 360 video and stuff. That's what I read, but I just, there's no final cut in it, right?

• 55:05Speaker 02

You know what I want, you know what I want?

• 55:06Speaker 01

  Not built in.

• 55:07Speaker 02

Yeah. In this, I wanna be able to pick a clip up out of, out of the timeline, and I wanna, I wanna snap it in half like a Toblerone. I like, I wanna, there's like a current that I wanna go, just like a, you know what I mean?

• 55:19Speaker 01

That was fire. I would edit like that.

• 55:21Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Do it.

• 55:22Speaker 02

And then you put it, you put it right back.

• 55:24Speaker 01

I would multicam with that. I would be doing my J-cuts, I'd like grab three clips and like shove them under three other clips. Yeah, I would do that.

• 55:30David Imel?

They also added, they added more dystopian features, um, which technically we wanted, where now if you're sitting on a couch with your significant other, you can both watch the same movie in your individual Vision Pros, and then when you lean over to give each other a little kiss, uh, you're both wearing Vision Pros.

• 55:48Speaker 02

Can you, can you do that? I don't think you could kiss, I think if two people are wearing Vision Pros, they cannot. I don't think so.

• 55:54Speaker 01

We'll just be glass to glass.

• 55:55Speaker 02

  We

• 55:58Speaker 02

  Members only content.

• 56:00David Imel?

  I'm not beating the obligations.

• 56:03Speaker 01

Shared content's important, though, on Vision Pro. This is what I talked about when it first came out, like, top five things missing from Vision Pro. My number one is shared experiences. Two different people looking at the same 3D object, manipulating it, showing each other, you know, scaling, rotating, in the same room at the same time. That is now going to be supported, which is great. I also think that it's hilarious that there's a world where two people are wearing $3,500 headsets and they don't have a TV that they can share.

• 56:28Speaker 02

  I know.

• 56:29Speaker 01

Like, that's a weird room. I don't know what that room is. But, okay, there's a couch and a blank wall and you just, that's your room.

• 56:36David Imel?

It's specifically for, like, when you move into a new apartment, but you haven't bought anything yet.

• 56:39Speaker 01

But you got your headset, so you're ready to go.

• 56:41David Imel?

You're sitting in this empty white room on the carpet.

• 56:44Speaker 01

What do you mean, "movie night"? I got the headset. Alright.

• 56:47David Imel?

One thing about tvOS that we didn't mention is that you can now do karaoke on tvOS and you can use your iPhone as a microphone for the karaoke.

• 56:56Speaker 02

  Finally!

• 56:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 56:58Speaker 01

  Wow. Cool.

• 57:00David Imel?

  Yeah, wow.

• 57:00Speaker 01

Yeah, so that's all, that's all coming, and I think now we get to the two big ones, which is macOS and iPadOS. And to Andrew's point, less of a difference than ever before.

• 57:13David Imel?

  In macOS?

• 57:14Speaker 01

  Probably, well, between the two.

• 57:15David Imel?

  What's a computer?

• 57:15Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. Yeah, what is a computer? Okay, let's start with macOS, because I think we can also kind of drill through that one a little quickly.

• 57:20David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 57:20Speaker 01

Liquid glass everywhere, clear dock, clear widgets, you can do clear all the things. I don't love the look on the Mac. I gotta be honest, I've seen it now. The Control Center, are you running that, too?

• 57:33David Imel?

  Oh, I'm running everything.

• 57:33Speaker 01

Yo, hit the Control Center right now. Tell me that doesn't look like Bubble Boy from SpongeBob.

• 57:36David Imel?

  Oh, it is Bubble Boy.

• 57:37Speaker 01

That looks so bad, dude. That looks horrible.

• 57:40David Imel?

  It's opinionated.

• 57:41Speaker 01

  It looks horrible.

• 57:41David Imel?

  Rain meter is back.

• 57:43Speaker 01

I need a background so I can read things.

• 57:46Andrew Manganelli?

  That's pretty rough.

• 57:46Speaker 01

  It's bad.

• 57:47Andrew Manganelli?

  It's also funny, because

• 57:48David Imel?

  I love it.

• 57:49Andrew Manganelli?

Like, my menu bar up top is more transparent than your menu bar.

• 57:53Speaker 01

Yeah, so the mini bar is supposed to be transparent when you have no apps open.

• 57:57Speaker 02

My mini bar is transparent than your mini bar.

• 57:58David Imel?

  When you have no apps.

• 57:59Andrew Manganelli?

  This is liquid ass.

• 58:00Speaker 01

When you're just like showing your home screen. So if you just like expose the home screen, just like click the bottom left corner to like show your hide all windows should be clear, right?

• 58:08David Imel?

  It's not.

• 58:09Speaker 01

  It's not?

• 58:10David Imel?

  It is supposed to be.

• 58:11Speaker 01

  It's a beta.

• 58:12David Imel?

  It's a beta.

• 58:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 58:14David Imel?

  You're like me.

• 58:15Speaker 01

What else is in macOS? I mean, some other slight improvements. Spotlight is kind of the big thing for me.

• 58:20David Imel?

  Spotlight.

• 58:21Speaker 01

  Alright. Let's start about Spotlight.

• 58:23Andrew Manganelli?

I'm gonna sit this one out while Adam come in.

• 58:25Speaker 01

  Yeah, Adam tap in. Okay.

• 58:26Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm ready, baby.

• 58:27Speaker 01

You're a fellow Raycast user, right?

• 58:29David Imel?

  Tap me in.

• 58:30Speaker 01

So, I mentioned this in the impressions video. My like number one productivity app I install fresh on every new Mac is called Raycast. And it literally replaces the command space keyboard shortcut for spotlight and is a like spotlight on steroids. I can open apps, obviously, or I can give it commands. I can also tab over and find files. I can talk with AI, literally like dozens of different AI models. I can select on the fly which one I want to talk to. I can also do, there's a, I think my favorite part is actually just the clipboard history. I just type in clipboard and I see my entire clipboard history of all the things I've copied and want to paste again.

• 59:12Speaker 01

So it is incredibly, incredibly useful. It syncs across devices. I don't really go anywhere without it, obviously. It's very useful. So, Apple gets on stage and they start showing this new spotlight for Mac, which actually when you hover over it has this nifty little animation that's starts to break apart like, okay, you can still search for apps, but you can also now do commands, keyboard shortcuts, view your clipboard history, all these new things that you couldn't do in spotlight before.

• 59:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 59:42Speaker 01

And the first obvious thought that I had was, oh, this is what it looks like when an app gets Sherlocked. Like this is the obvious. You know, if I'm a developer at Raycast, I'm over here thinking like, that's tough. They just took a bunch of our users slash features.

• 59:59Speaker 01

And that's actually kind of what I said in the video, but the more I've thought about it.

• 1:00:03David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:00:04Speaker 01

And I read the statement from, I think it was a founder, a CEO. The more I thought about it, the more I think it actually is promising that Raycast will continue to exist and may even benefit from this.

• 1:00:15David Imel?

  Oh, let's hear it.

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

Because the angle is people weren't thinking about like Spotlight being a power user type thing or doing shortcuts in that way yet. And so it was only really us nerds, power users, productivity people who are doing that. Now that this is built in and people might start to mess with this a little bit, they will quickly run up against Apple's limits of customization. And then we'll find Raycast because Raycast will continue to do more than Spotlight will. Like when I want to open command space and tab and I'm talking to Gemini now in two clicks, I don't have to touch my trackpad.

• 1:00:50David Imel?

  There's Gemini on the computer?

• 1:00:51Speaker 01

Yeah, well, in Raycast. Like I don't even have to leave, go to a browser, I can just chat with Gemini.

• 1:00:56David Imel?

  No.

• 1:00:56Speaker 01

And so that type of thing is always going to be the next level above, like Apple's never going to let me do that in Spotlight. But when you open the funnel a little bit and you get regular users thinking a little bit more about like, oh, I'll use Spotlight a little more. I'll start to like use it to find files or that's the type of thing that shows people that Raycast exists faster.

• 1:01:17David Imel?

And Raycast can let you do things with third-party apps, right?

• 1:01:20Speaker 01

Right, there's plugins, lots of plugins. Google Translate plugin is very useful. I'm sure there will be a Translate Siri shortcut plugin or something that does a similar thing. The thing that was really useful for Apple's version is the app intense again. You can like jump in and send a message to a recipient and you type it all out and hit enter and it sends a message without ever opening.

• 1:01:40David Imel?

You can also email files straight from the clipboard.

• 1:01:43Speaker 01

Pretty intense. Yes, straight from Spotlight. So that's like, that is like power user, like there's an entire YouTube genre of how to maximize Raycast and do these types of things.

• 1:01:55David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:01:55Speaker 01

And this is stepping right into that territory. And if this was like a third-party app, you'd immediately be like, oh, this is pretty clever, nice UI, but obviously very limited.

• 1:02:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:05Speaker 01

And, uh, yeah, I think this is.

• 1:02:06David Imel?

So. Not gonna be able to tap into the spotlight thing? You can only use it with Apple apps?

• 1:02:13Speaker 01

I have a feeling that this will be much more restricted. And there won't be third-party plugins like Google Translate or Gemini Chat or Spotify Play Pause type of stuff.

• 1:02:22David Imel?

Oh, man. That'd be amazing if you could just be like, play on Spotify this song.

• 1:02:27Speaker 01

That exact thought you're having is what's gonna drive people to Raycast. That's what I'm thinking.

• 1:02:31Speaker 04

Yeah, I think the spotlight limitations are gonna be that there's no, you have to use shortcuts for things like that. Like, if I wanna do anything like that, like go and open Spotify and then play this song, you can probably hack your way around that with like

• 1:02:47David Imel?

  Serious shortcuts.

• 1:02:47Speaker 04

  Serious shortcuts.

• 1:02:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:02:49Speaker 04

But something like Raycast will just do it because it already has it built in. And then you can also just like create your own extensions on Raycast if you want. Like, I spent this whole weekend, which is hilarious because I like, I posted like Saturday or something with someone like, "Okay, I've been using Raycast now like a normie for the last like three or four weeks." Like, just basically as a basic search bar for like a spotlight replacement.

• 1:03:12David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:12Speaker 04

And I was like, "Okay, send me your like tips and tricks for Raycast." And I dove deep down that rabbit hole this weekend. I set it up all perfectly and then Monday happened.

• 1:03:21David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:23Speaker 04

And onstage, they're like, "Oh, we just updated Spotlight." And I was like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme, like, "Wait, I've seen this before." But the thing that makes Raycast way more powerful, which is like to Marques's point, the people that care are gonna just always have to go to Raycast because you can just use regular code to build your own thing if you want.

• 1:03:41David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:03:41Speaker 04

Like, if you're trying to build your own extension in Raycast, I'm pretty sure it's just like React. And like, that's it, which a lot of developers know. So like, yeah, you can like try to figure it out with shortcuts if you're a developer and you wanna do that. Regular people just ignore shortcuts altogether, so they're not gonna do that.

• 1:03:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:57Speaker 04

But the people that care about this stuff kinda tend to have these skills anyway. So then they'll be like leaning towards Raycast.

• 1:04:05David Imel?

Speaking of shortcuts too, they added a bunch of like Apple Intelligence features to shortcuts now. They showed me a demo where you get a bunch of photos that you have in a folder. And you're like, "Oh, I need to organize these."

• 1:04:16Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:04:17David Imel?

So they had created a shortcut that like organizes the photos based on what's in them.

• 1:04:21Speaker 01

This one seemed insane to me.

• 1:04:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:23Speaker 01

But it did what it's supposed to.

• 1:04:25David Imel?

Well, they were saying that this would be like perfect for video editors because you could automatically index things. But, you know, it has to work.

• 1:04:33Andrew Manganelli?

You shouldn't make a shortcut, so every time Final Cut crashes, it reopens it up again and gets to the spot you're at.

• 1:04:38David Imel?

That's actually, Final Cut's always open.

• 1:04:41Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and the shortcut is just you slamming your keyboard with your fist.

• 1:04:44Speaker 01

  Hey, just go.

• 1:04:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:47Speaker 01

Oh, I just almost sent an email.

• 1:04:51David Imel?

  SM, too good.

• 1:04:52Andrew Manganelli?

David has the new Spotlight open.

• 1:04:54David Imel?

  I do.

• 1:04:54Andrew Manganelli?

  It looks way nicer.

• 1:04:55David Imel?

  It does.

• 1:04:56Andrew Manganelli?

It looks really good to like.

• 1:04:57David Imel?

  The animation is cool.

• 1:04:58Andrew Manganelli?

There's an animation between the App Store, Files, what's the other?

• 1:05:02David Imel?

It's a, well, it's not the App Store, it's Apps.

• 1:05:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Apps.

• 1:05:04David Imel?

Apps, Files, Actions, and Clipboard Manager.

• 1:05:08Andrew Manganelli?

And it has a very easy, like, Command 1234 to select any of those. It looks, that looks really nice. I think that new Spotlight looks good.

• 1:05:16Speaker 01

Animation's nice. It's glassy, of course.

• 1:05:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:19David Imel?

  It's glassy.

• 1:05:19Speaker 01

Yeah. So anyway, that's my, that's my two cents on, on this Spotlight situation. I think it's a cool feature. Um, and it will hopefully get a lot of people thinking about how to use it better.

• 1:05:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:30Speaker 01

  But then.

• 1:05:30David Imel?

  Clipboard history.

• 1:05:31Andrew Manganelli?

Are we just all going back to writing in a, like, oh, in a terminal? I feel like this is just teaching us all to like.

• 1:05:37Speaker 01

  Vim users out here.

• 1:05:38David Imel?

It's a cool kids' way. Getting all excited.

• 1:05:40Speaker 01

Yeah. That moment where, sorry, that moment where, uh, it was, maybe it was Craig or whoever was giving a demo, like, talked about you can do all of this and like send this message and hit Enter without ever touching the trackpad. I was like, that's the exact pitch of so many apps of like, my email app is you can do all this and never touch your keyboard, or never touch your trackpad or your mouse.

• 1:06:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:01Speaker 01

That is straight from that world.

• 1:06:02Andrew Manganelli?

Turns out keyboard shortcuts were the solution all along.

• 1:06:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:05David Imel?

Yeah. Um, also, there are now live activities on the Mac.

• 1:06:09Speaker 01

  True.

• 1:06:09David Imel?

And it has continuity. So if you have, basically, you can basically have it where you can like open a virtual version of your phone and then have your phone on there. And so now, like, there will be live activities on your iPhone, say when your Uber Eats delivery is coming or whatever, it'll show up on your Mac, and then when you click it, it opens a virtual session of your iPhone and you can manipulate the app on your iPhone from your computer. So that is pretty cool.

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

You also get the live activities in your.

• 1:06:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Top menu bar, right?

• 1:06:36Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:06:37Andrew Manganelli?

So you're, do you think Domino's Pizza Tracker can be on my menu bar now?

• 1:06:41Speaker 01

If it's a lot of activity, absolutely.

• 1:06:43Speaker 04

Domino's is always at the forefront of every new technology, so I guarantee they'll be there.

• 1:06:48Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, we also did not talk about the most important change, colored folders.

• 1:06:51Speaker 01

Yeah, I was gonna say that.

• 1:06:52Speaker 04

  Also.

• 1:06:53Speaker 01

And you can put emojis on the folders as well. Colored emoji folders. Real organization shops here.

• 1:07:00Andrew Manganelli?

It'll match perfectly with liquid glass.

• 1:07:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, yes.

• 1:07:04Andrew Manganelli?

Just everything else, no color, color.

• 1:07:07Speaker 01

Red folder with green emoji with liquid glass background. It's just topical. This is chaos. Yeah.

• 1:07:14Speaker 04

Yeah, I cannot wait for this Johnny Ive leaves and everything falls apart.

• 1:07:19Speaker 01

Alright, so that's, that's basically all of it for the, the rapid fire. I think the last one we're gonna do is the big one, iPad OS 26. But before we get to that, let's take one more quick break, which means it's time for one more trivia question.

• 1:07:32Speaker 02

I jumped the gun, I, sorry.

• 1:07:34Speaker 01

No, it felt smooth. It felt like that was kind of like integrated. Yeah.

• 1:07:38Speaker 02

You know what else was preemptive?

• 1:07:40Speaker 05

  Were you paying attention?

• 1:07:42Andrew Manganelli?

  I was, I swear.

• 1:07:43Speaker 01

  Is that the definition?

• 1:07:44Speaker 02

  Were you?

• 1:07:45Speaker 01

  I was.

• 1:07:46Speaker 04

Then on the very first frame of WWDC, it's a close up of Craig in an F1 car.

• 1:07:53Speaker 01

  Sure is.

• 1:07:53Speaker 04

Can you name me one of the sponsors that were on his helmet?

• 1:07:56Speaker 01

  The sponsors? Helmet specifically?

• 1:07:59Speaker 04

Any of them, anything on that frame, I'll take it.

• 1:08:01Speaker 01

  In that frame?

• 1:08:02Speaker 04

Not the car that he was driving, because that's a very obvious brand.

• 1:08:04Speaker 01

Oh, boy. Why does Apple need more money?

• 1:08:07Speaker 04

Well, no, it was for the F1 movie, so like, F1 racers are typically sponsored by a bunch of brands.

• 1:08:11Speaker 01

I have a lot of questions about the logistics of that. Sponsors on there.

• 1:08:15Andrew Manganelli?

Well, no, but he was wearing the thing from the movie that Apple made.

• 1:08:18Speaker 01

Yeah. That's still surprising. But wait, think of this logistically. Apple, Apple made a movie about Formula One, right? Formula One, just like NASCAR, notorious for having lots of sponsors on jerseys, helmets, and cars. Yeah. So if you're gonna make a movie that's ultra-realistic about Formula One, you must also therefore have lots of sponsor logos. They used real company, they used all of the exact real company logos and all the sponsor names. How does that work? Did they have to pay for that?

• 1:08:47Speaker 04

No, no, no, don't, don't, Marty, it doesn't matter, it's a movie, you know, it doesn't matter. What does matter is, is if you're a YouTuber and you got flown out to a race specifically to shoot a video, and then they tell you, once you're there, hey, you're not allowed to shoot anything because there's lots of other brands in it.

• 1:09:01Speaker 01

Yeah. I'm just wondering. Like Apple, whenever they have iPhones that appear in movies, they just go, it's fine. You can use it as long as the iPhone isn't the bad guy's phone. So they understand that there's just gonna be Apple logos that show up sometimes. But if you're

• 1:09:17David Imel?

  Who pays who?

• 1:09:17Speaker 01

Just, you know, random company here, Coca-Cola. And there's a movie about an F1 driver who crashes the car. Like, is that, are you mad? Do you not want the logo in there? Are you cool with that?

• 1:09:30Andrew Manganelli?

Is making an F1 movie the infinite money lich? Where you just get a million free sponsors inside of it and get paid for all of those? Plus the money you make on it?

• 1:09:39Speaker 01

I feel like you might have to be doing the paying.

• 1:09:42Speaker 04

There's no way that they were using these brand names without contacting these brands. Because one of them in particular is like a very big brand in a particular field that I'm not gonna name because it might give you a hint.

• 1:09:52Speaker 01

I'm gonna write it down because I think I remember.

• 1:09:55Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know, I don't remember a single brand on this.

• 1:09:57Speaker 01

What if I, what if I write down like four different brands?

• 1:09:59Speaker 04

It's a watch company and I guaranteed none of you guys have heard of it.

• 1:10:02Speaker 01

  Seiko.

• 1:10:04Speaker 04

You can write down as many as you want. If you give me one of them.

• 1:10:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:10:09Speaker 01

Why didn't, they just have Apple ads all over it? It's kinda weird for them to use real sponsors.

• 1:10:14David Imel?

  Because that would be unrealistic.

• 1:10:15Andrew Manganelli?

It would be weird if the Apple created shows all their sponsors on the car was Apple.

• 1:10:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, it makes sense.

• 1:10:21Andrew Manganelli?

  It would feel weird.

• 1:10:21Speaker 01

Like the Ferrari, when I see the Ferrari F1 car, I expect the Bitdefender logo on the helmet every single time.

• 1:10:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Expect the big blue HP.

• 1:10:28Speaker 04

I also expect it to be behind McLaren.

• 1:10:31Speaker 01

Yeah. And it's usually right behind him.

• 1:10:35David Imel?

  Verstappen, am I right?

• 1:10:36Speaker 01

And like, there's the Red Bull team, the McLaren team, like, these are all brand names. Anyway.

• 1:10:40David Imel?

  Is Verstappen a real one?

• 1:10:41Speaker 01

  Verstappen, yeah.

• 1:10:42David Imel?

  Is that a guy?

• 1:10:43Speaker 01

  That's a, that's a last name.

• 1:10:44David Imel?

Nice. Is he an F1 driver?

• 1:10:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:46Andrew Manganelli?

  He is.

• 1:10:47David Imel?

  I'm so good at

• 1:10:48Speaker 04

  Killing it, baby.

• 1:10:48David Imel?

casually injecting information in my brain.

• 1:10:50Speaker 01

Just keep thinking about F1. We will have the answers at the end like usual. We'll be right back.

• 1:11:07Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. We've got one more big OS update to talk about from Apple this week, and that is the iPad. Now, the history of iPad updates has been very consistent. We've got maybe five or six years of iPads under our belt where I review the iPad, and I say the same thing that I said the last year when I reviewed the iPad, which is, "Man, this hardware is so good, so impressive, so thin, so fast, beautiful screen." But it's still an iPad. I always say that line. But it's still an iPad. And that's because it's still the same iOS-on-steroids kind of software, where if you were hoping to make it your computer, it is clearly not up to that.

• 1:11:50Speaker 01

It's not designed for that. And heck, it's Apple. Why would we expect them to do that? They make computers. If they wanted to sell you a computer, it's over there. It's called the Mac. So they're always so separate for so long. And I've watched so many YouTube videos over the years of YouTubers going, "Can I make it my main computer?" And I've made one or two of these videos too with the iPad Pro. You know, there's a little bit better file management. I could upload a YouTube video from the tablet, and also it had a desktop agent, so I could even like mess around in the Dropbox app. Like, there was hacks that I could kind of get working, but it was never quite comfortable. Stage Manager came along. It was okay.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

This year, iPadOS 26 genuinely feels like they just decided to make it more of a Mac. This time will be different. They just did the thing. It was kind of shocking.

• 1:12:46Speaker 01

Mark has just teared up a little bit. It's kind of crazy. Like, they did all... They added full free-form windows. Like, you can just drag from the corner and make a bunch of windows, whatever size you want. Multiple overlapping windows, on-screen, off-screen, full-screen. They also added a menu bar at the top. And window controls on those windows. And we had the stoplight menu for like closing or minimizing or changing the size of windows. There's a new redesigned Files app. There is a new audio input selector, which I also confirmed will work with Bluetooth microphones.

• 1:13:22Speaker 01

I used to have to, I've been paying for apps to do this for like years. Every time I test Bluetooth headphones, I'm like, how do I do this test? This is gonna be the worst part.

• 1:13:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:29Speaker 01

Um, there are so many things in iPad OS.

• 1:13:32David Imel?

  Preview app.

• 1:13:32Speaker 01

Uh, the pre, the new preview app, you can export to different file sizes and types, like all of this stuff. Uh, the new files app can let you sort by or organize by showing different types of attributes for your files. The liquid glass is still there, obviously, but I, I am just way, way more confident that I can use the iPad. Uh, like a computer, have you seen the, like, plugging it in with a trackpad?

• 1:13:55David Imel?

Yeah, there's a real pointer now.

• 1:13:57Speaker 01

It's just a real mouse now.

• 1:13:58Speaker 04

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:13:59Speaker 01

Instead of like that blob that was like snapping, you called it Amisys, I thought that was perfect.

• 1:14:02Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:14:02Speaker 01

  It's just a mouse now.

• 1:14:04Speaker 04

Finally, this is what I wanted.

• 1:14:05Speaker 01

This is, yeah, this is right up your alley. You don't even need decks, you literally just plug it into a monitor and maybe throw on like the keyboard attachment with the trackpad. It's a computer.

• 1:14:15Speaker 04

  Oh, I plan to try.

• 1:14:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:14:17Speaker 04

My summer will be dedicated, between this and the Android developer, Android 16 developer beta that just came out, I'm gonna be trying to replace this laptop with one of these.

• 1:14:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 1:14:25David Imel?

  I like desktops so much.

• 1:14:26Speaker 01

I think you can really do it. I think so, uh, there's obviously, you know, if you have certain apps that you need, you have got to make sure those apps work, like the Final Cut on the iPad is gonna be different from Final Cut on the Mac. So you have to be okay with like the lack of plugins, there's, there's certain things that work differently. But there are background apps or background actions now, so if I hit export.

• 1:14:46David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:14:47Speaker 01

And then I leave Final Cut and head to the web browser and open up Frame.io to get ready to upload or whatever, it will continue to export in the background.

• 1:14:54David Imel?

I cannot believe that that wasn't a thing before.

• 1:14:56Speaker 01

  I know.

• 1:14:57David Imel?

I cannot believe that wasn't a thing before.

• 1:14:59Speaker 01

All of these things, all in one update just feels like, like if they did one of these things, it'd be like, oh, it's a little closer, but they did all of these things.

• 1:15:07David Imel?

So now, would you rather buy a MacBook Air or an iPad?

• 1:15:11Speaker 01

Okay, so what user am I? Am I me?

• 1:15:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:14Speaker 01

Or am I regular, am I my sister, am I like a, like a, am I a recent college grad? Am I what? Who, which type of person are we talking about?

• 1:15:24David Imel?

Do you want to do, well?

• 1:15:25Speaker 01

I think if it was me.

• 1:15:26David Imel?

  Be, be me.

• 1:15:27Speaker 01

Yeah, okay. I use Final Cut Pro for Mac heavily.

• 1:15:32David Imel?

  You do?

• 1:15:33Speaker 01

So in the, yeah, I'm a big video guy. I don't know if you know.

• 1:15:36David Imel?

  What?

• 1:15:36Speaker 01

So, uh, I cannot main this as my main like editing computer.

• 1:15:42David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:15:42Speaker 01

For everything else, yes, I can. So I, I'm the person that's gonna have to keep a Mac around and I think a lot of power users who have specific apps that they use on the Mac are gonna have to keep a Mac around. But as far as like taking it everywhere with me, I don't have to do that anymore. I can take the iPad everywhere with me and if I need the Mac, I'll go to where the Mac is.

• 1:16:01David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:16:02Speaker 01

  That's the difference.

• 1:16:03David Imel?

And the, the thing that they did with the iPad Final Cut app was that they were trying to make it so that you could just do a base like cut edit so that you could then throw it to your Mac anyway.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

Yeah, I will say a lot of the demos that Apple does and that any of these companies do with video editing is, I don't know how to describe it, but it's just hilarious to me. Cause it's so contrived. They'll be like, and now I want to add a background song, so I'll just drag this here and boop, looks good, all done. I'm like, wait, what?

• 1:16:35David Imel?

  That's how easy it is.

• 1:16:36Speaker 01

That's how they edit. They just go drag something in and it's perfect because they had a stage for that. But yeah, I think it's for simple edits.

• 1:16:43David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:44Speaker 01

  It's fine.

• 1:16:44David Imel?

I will say DaVinci Resolve has a full iPad app.

• 1:16:47Speaker 01

Who was sitting next to me and said that?

• 1:16:49David Imel?

  I did.

• 1:16:49Speaker 01

  That was you?

• 1:16:50David Imel?

And I was sitting next to you.

• 1:16:52Speaker 01

That's what I'm remembering. Thank you.

• 1:16:55David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:16:56Speaker 01

Hey, I remembered. I was paying attention.

• 1:16:58David Imel?

Were you paying attention to me sitting next to you for two hours?

• 1:17:01Speaker 01

Well, cause I was also in a briefing with Tyra Stallman. We talked about something else and there was some other photo stuff, but yes, that, so yeah, the full on iPad app, that is an option. But I, I don't wanna, I don't know if I wanna relearn.

• 1:17:13David Imel?

  Yeah, I get it.

• 1:17:13Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:17:14David Imel?

But for people that are already on resolve, that's pretty amazing. Like you can pretty much just use the full iPad.

• 1:17:19Speaker 04

I'm not on resolve and I spent yesterday like at least two hours just watching a bunch of iPad resolve tutorials and I wanna try it.

• 1:17:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:28Speaker 04

  It looks doable.

• 1:17:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:29Speaker 01

Vin raves about the color controls in Resolve.

• 1:17:31David Imel?

It's way better. Yeah. It used to just be a coloring app and then they built out editing.

• 1:17:36Speaker 04

Also, it doesn't crash all the time.

• 1:17:39Speaker 01

  Is that right?

• 1:17:40David Imel?

  Allegedly.

• 1:17:40Speaker 01

  That's actually a huge upside.

• 1:17:42David Imel?

  Allegedly.

• 1:17:43Speaker 01

  If that's true. Okay.

• 1:17:44David Imel?

  Huge if true.

• 1:17:45Speaker 01

  Does it support Red Raw?

• 1:17:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:47Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:17:48David Imel?

And it also has like, it had AI like, cut out features before Final Cut did.

• 1:17:52Speaker 01

Oh yeah, because the magnetic mask is kind of fire in Final Cut.

• 1:17:54David Imel?

  It's pretty good on resolve.

• 1:17:56Andrew Manganelli?

I've seen people use it who I know are not the best editors in the world, and it looks pretty good.

• 1:18:00Speaker 06

  Hey, hey, I'm right here.

• 1:18:01David Imel?

  And-

• 1:18:02Andrew Manganelli?

  And you're still learning.

• 1:18:03David Imel?

It looks a lot like Final Cut.

• 1:18:05Speaker 01

Okay, so maybe not the biggest learning curve?

• 1:18:08Andrew Manganelli?

  No, there's a learning curve.

• 1:18:09David Imel?

There's definitely a learning curve. But it doesn't look that different than Final Cut.

• 1:18:13Speaker 01

Okay, because it's got the nodes and you have to sort of learn the process of editing in it.

• 1:18:17David Imel?

  Nodes.

• 1:18:18Speaker 01

I may give this a spin. I got a, I got a seven hour flight coming up, so.

• 1:18:21David Imel?

  Seven hour?

• 1:18:22Speaker 01

  Well, we'll see.

• 1:18:23Speaker 06

  Did you see there-

• 1:18:24Speaker 02

  Where are you going, Narnia?

• 1:18:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:18:26Andrew Manganelli?

  That's a door, a closet.

• 1:18:28Speaker 02

That would be a pretty quick flight.

• 1:18:29David Imel?

  San Francisco.

• 1:18:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:18:31David Imel?

  Six.

• 1:18:31Andrew Manganelli?

Um, the other thing we didn't mention, the local capture.

• 1:18:34Speaker 01

  Mmm.

• 1:18:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Pretty cool, Riverside.

• 1:18:36David Imel?

  Riverside.

• 1:18:38Andrew Manganelli?

But it says it can do it with any video conferencing app?

• 1:18:41Speaker 01

Yes, so this is going to be built into the OS.

• 1:18:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:43Speaker 01

Where if you are, and essentially, I don't know if the Mac's going to do this too, but basically, if you are on a video conferencing app, let's say you're going to do a podcast with someone over Zoom, it will be able to record your camera and microphone feed.

• 1:18:56David Imel?

  Locally.

• 1:18:56Speaker 01

Locally. The other person does that at the same time, and then you put all the files together and you can then edit those files together, which is similar to what Riverside does.

• 1:19:04David Imel?

That's the killer feature of Riverside, actually.

• 1:19:05Andrew Manganelli?

It really is, and then this plus now the microphone input change.

• 1:19:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:10Andrew Manganelli?

It's like a pretty solid, yeah, that's pretty awesome.

• 1:19:13Speaker 04

As someone that has to like, talk to people through this setup process in Riverside, I am not going to trust this with-

• 1:19:21Speaker 01

I'm curious. I think it might be exactly what we need.

• 1:19:23Speaker 04

  I think it's awesome.

• 1:19:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:19:25Speaker 04

I just don't think that people will understand how it works, where to find it in files, how to send it to me after. There's like so many things that Riverside takes care of automatically, that I'm just going to keep trusting Riverside for now.

• 1:19:37David Imel?

Is this even going to work on the Mac? Or is this only iPad?

• 1:19:41Andrew Manganelli?

  That's the biggest thing.

• 1:19:41Speaker 01

This is definitely an iPad OS feature, is this is where I saw it demoed, and this is the part in the keynote that they showed it. So I assume it's iPad only.

• 1:19:48David Imel?

  Interesting.

• 1:19:48Speaker 01

But, yeah, I, this struck me as like, on a super, super, super simple podcast setup, this would work. The more variables you have, the more you might probably want to use Riverside.

• 1:20:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:00Speaker 02

Yeah, think if it's it's great for like, you're starting out, you're like, oh, me and my friend want to start a podcast. We have iPads. Perfect. That is like the ideal situation for like us in a professional setting. I personally would not rely 100% on it.

• 1:20:15Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's fair.

• 1:20:16David Imel?

If they can just bring Dota 2 to iPadOS, then I don't need my laptop anymore.

• 1:20:22Speaker 01

Is that your killer Mac app that you're stuck to Mac with?

• 1:20:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:25Speaker 01

So mine's Final Cut Pro, yours is?

• 1:20:26David Imel?

Well, I also need a video editor and I use Lightroom Classic instead of Lightroom Mobile.

• 1:20:32Speaker 01

But you know, you got Pixelmater.

• 1:20:35David Imel?

I mean, there's also Lightroom Mobile, you can just use that, but yeah.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

I'm excited. I expect that video again, is what I'll say. Expect the can the iPad be my computer video, but this time in a much more like optimistic tune.

• 1:20:53David Imel?

  Everything's computer.

• 1:20:53Speaker 01

Seems like it's possible. Yeah, we had that what is a computer moment? It was literally as they went down the list of things, we started with the first feature of like moving windows around happened. We were like, what is a computer? And they showed the toolbar and we're like,

• 1:21:07Speaker 01

  what is a computer?

• 1:21:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:08Speaker 01

And they started going through like file management and like all of the mouse stuff. And we're like, wait a minute.

• 1:21:14David Imel?

  Yeah, windows, different windows, snapping.

• 1:21:18Speaker 01

They went down the whole list, so.

• 1:21:19David Imel?

Yeah, you can flick the windows around now and it'll like automatically snap to the sides.

• 1:21:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:25David Imel?

  Yeah, it's pretty cool.

• 1:21:26Speaker 01

  What an age.

• 1:21:27David Imel?

We truly live in an age of wonders.

• 1:21:29Speaker 01

I think Craig had a moment in the end of the keynote where he was like, wow, how about that?

• 1:21:33David Imel?

Yeah, he did. Yeah, he he said something quite funny that was kind of referencing that they're intentionally like keeping the iPad from being a computer. And they were like, yeah, a little bit more now.

• 1:21:45Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:46Speaker 02

You, I didn't want to say this in Slack yesterday during the event because I thought everyone would laugh at me. But now that we're with the people that I'm like.

• 1:21:52Speaker 01

  Let's record.

• 1:21:54Speaker 02

I was gonna say now that I'm with the people, you're right now, now, now, now everyone on Twitter can laugh at me too. There is one feature they mentioned super briefly in iPadOS that people were joking about in the Slack. But it's serious, guys, it's really serious because. I bought my Apple pencil specifically.

• 1:22:16David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:22:17Speaker 02

At the Apple event, like, we were in Cupertino, we were shooting, whatever. And it was the Apple event where they announced the journal app. And as soon as they announced that, I went and I bought an Apple pencil online that moment. I was like, yes.

• 1:22:30David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:22:31Speaker 02

And then I bought it before they finished introducing the journal app. And then at the end, they were like, iPhone only. And I was like, are you kidding me?

• 1:22:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:39Speaker 02

  Are you kidding me?

• 1:22:40David Imel?

Does anyone use the journal app?

• 1:22:41Speaker 01

  But now it's on.

• 1:22:42Speaker 02

Yeah, what kind of idiot uses the? That'd be crazy to use.

• 1:22:47Speaker 02

And so now the fact that I, my dreams of using the Apple pencil to write my journal in bed, like a little, like a little kid with my, on my stomach with my, my shins up in the air. Boy, everyone is like, oh, Apple pencil for journal app. But that's, I was like, this is all I've ever wanted.

• 1:23:08David Imel?

  They know.

• 1:23:08Speaker 02

  Thanks, Craig.

• 1:23:09David Imel?

  Target demographic was impressed.

• 1:23:12Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:23:12David Imel?

Yeah. By the way, all these window management features all come to the iPad mini. I just, I need to see five windows open on the iPad.

• 1:23:19Speaker 02

Yeah, this is. It does not look nice.

• 1:23:22Speaker 01

  Can you have it already?

• 1:23:23Speaker 02

I have it on the iPad mini.

• 1:23:24David Imel?

  Oh, I need that screenshot.

• 1:23:25Speaker 02

That's the first thing I did, too. And it was, it's a lot.

• 1:23:27Speaker 01

  Okay, okay.

• 1:23:28David Imel?

Also, Notes did add Markdown as we predicted last time. And the calculator, the Math Notes in the Math Notes calculator added 3D graphing capabilities, which we should try.

• 1:23:40Speaker 02

  Can I just say?

• 1:23:40David Imel?

Because it was cool last year.

• 1:23:41Speaker 02

The Markdown coming to Apple Notes is actually a pretty big deal. Because that is the one reason why I have not been using Apple Notes like as my main note taking app. Because everything is kind of like stuck there in Apple Notes formatting. And that's kind of it. And I jump around too much. I want to see if you can export these notes. Because if you can export them in Markdown, import them into another note taking app that supports Markdown. Did anyone mention that? But if you could do that, that's huge.

• 1:24:07David Imel?

I want to double check, but I think you can.

• 1:24:09Speaker 02

Because then that makes it a truly like interoperable note taking app, which means that you can use, I can use it.

• 1:24:15David Imel?

  Yeah. Fire.

• 1:24:18Speaker 01

  So they have it.

• 1:24:18David Imel?

  Cool beans.

  Computers.

• 1:24:20David Imel?

  What is computer?

• 1:24:21Speaker 01

All of them are our name number 26, all of them.

• 1:24:24Speaker 04

We need to clip those two clips together.

• 1:24:26Speaker 01

We will, we will have reviews, of course. I mean, watch the recap video on the main channel if you haven't already seen it. But there will be like full on videos of all these things because they are, they are so deep and so interesting and so. Yeah, new, fascinating.

• 1:24:41David Imel?

  New glass.

• 1:24:42Speaker 01

We didn't talk at all about Apple Intelligence. I don't think there is much.

• 1:24:45Speaker 04

  Neither did they.

• 1:24:46Speaker 01

I mean, there's like visual intelligence on screen now. So if you wanted to highlight something in a screenshot, it's like circle search. It's basically the same thing.

• 1:24:54David Imel?

Yeah. Oh, I like the new screenshots, uh, just.

• 1:24:57Speaker 01

  UI?

• 1:24:58David Imel?

Yeah, the new screenshot UI is really cool. Okay, this actually makes a lot of sense and it helped me sort of understand why the pixel screenshots app exists. Especially after, uh, talking to a lot of normies. Um, but when you take a screenshot now, it puts you into this new interface where you can mark it up. You know, you can do the classic markup thing. Um, what was the other thing you could do with it?

• 1:25:19Speaker 01

Well, if there was text in it of like, uh, if you took a picture of like, uh, sorry, if you took a screenshot of like someone inviting you to an event. It would have a single button to add it to your Apple calendar.

• 1:25:30David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:25:31Speaker 01

Or if you took a screenshot of some product, it would allow you the opportunity to like reverse image search that product. It would show you, it would highlight a button for you at the bottom, depending on the context of what you take a screenshot of.

• 1:25:42David Imel?

  Indeed.

• 1:25:43Speaker 01

  Which is smart.

• 1:25:44David Imel?

None of that stuff is showing up on mine, but maybe.

• 1:25:46Speaker 01

  That may be coming soon.

• 1:25:48David Imel?

  Beta one, baby.

• 1:25:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:25:50Speaker 04

If they had announced all of these features at last year's Dub Dub and then at the end been like, and all of these cool things are powered by like Apple Intelligence. I think it would have gone over a lot better.

• 1:26:00Speaker 01

Yeah, you know, there are, there are some things in these updates that are technically AI, but they're not as explicitly saying this is AI or this is Apple Intelligence. And I thought that was interesting. It is the Apple way.

• 1:26:11Speaker 02

Presenting Apple Intelligence as an omnipotent force that is too perfect for us to comprehend as mortals. Like the idea that like, oh, you wonder how that works? It's Apple Intelligence. And just leave it there. That's perfect. That's great.

• 1:26:24Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's very Apple.

• 1:26:26David Imel?

I do think that they have traditionally like used, like remember when math notes came out? And everyone was like, oh, is this using AI? And they're like, no, it's just machine learning. Like, I really like when Apple just downplays like how amazing the technology they can make is. And I felt like this dub dub, they were doing that again. They kind of like, they talked about Apple until just the very beginning, kind of shoved it to the side. And it just felt like it felt like a dub dub before AI forced them to create Apple Intelligence, which nobody wanted. You know what I mean?

• 1:26:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:26:56David Imel?

So it felt like an apple that was not under the pressure of the stock market. So, yeah, it's nice.

• 1:27:05Speaker 01

Yeah. Should I install the beta on my phone or not yet? Is it buggy as hell?

• 1:27:08David Imel?

Well, are you an alpha or are you a beta?

• 1:27:10Speaker 01

Well, I mean, should I, should I, should I put it on my main phone?

• 1:27:15David Imel?

  I'm mating it.

• 1:27:16Speaker 01

  Any regrets?

• 1:27:17David Imel?

Uh, it restarted twice this morning.

• 1:27:21Speaker 01

Okay, I'm not gonna do it.

• 1:27:22David Imel?

  But other than that.

• 1:27:23Speaker 01

  I'm waiting.

• 1:27:24David Imel?

Other than that, and it gets really hot, like really hot.

• 1:27:27Speaker 01

Is it like blasting through battery?

• 1:27:29David Imel?

  It's not really. I'm at 65%.

• 1:27:32Speaker 01

All right, I'm gonna wait. I'm at 40, 40. Oh, because I have a flight this morning. That's why.

• 1:27:37David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:27:39Speaker 01

  All right.

• 1:27:39David Imel?

Do you want the glass you are? Do you not? Liquid?

• 1:27:42Speaker 01

I'll probably put it on a secondary phone. It's not my main phone and play with it there.

• 1:27:48David Imel?

Are we not allowed to talk about the liquid ass flub? Because it was funny.

• 1:27:52Speaker 01

  We can.

• 1:27:52David Imel?

Can we not talk about that?

• 1:27:53Speaker 01

No, we can. I mean, liquid ass.

• 1:27:57Speaker 01

Been trying not to say it this entire podcast. Uh, yeah. I like to believe that like Tim Cook had to personally re-upload a new YouTube thumbnail for this.

• 1:28:05David Imel?

Well, people need to know. Okay, so, so they put out.

• 1:28:08Speaker 01

What are you talking about? Explain it.

• 1:28:10David Imel?

They put out a YouTube video that was talking about liquid glass. And the YouTube play button logo that automatically goes over it covered the G and the L. So it just said, liquid ass, which is really funny. And then everyone memed it online. And then they changed the thumbnail. So now it's left aligned and things are stacked instead of it being centered. Anyway, it was really funny.

• 1:28:35Speaker 01

Well, there's only one more thing left to do this episode. I think you know what it is.

• 1:28:45Speaker 05

  Were you paying attention?

• 1:28:47Speaker 02

That's right. Another event means another installment of Were You Paying Attention? We're all familiar with the joke of Apple's crack product marketing team traveling around California, getting inspiration.

• 1:29:00David Imel?

  Why is it called crack?

• 1:29:02Speaker 02

  Crack pop. Like, like-

• 1:29:05David Imel?

  Not really, right?

• 1:29:06Speaker 02

No, that, isn't that, isn't that what it is? It's like, it's like, oh, he's a crack investigator.

• 1:29:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:10Speaker 02

Not like a crack investigator, but like- Can you explain this?

• 1:29:14David Imel?

I'll be honest, I've only ever heard it when Craig says it. Yeah.

• 1:29:17Speaker 02

  No, it's a thing.

• 1:29:18David Imel?

Every year, one time I hear somebody say crack and it's Craig. Hmm.

• 1:29:22Speaker 02

Wait, can I just double check? No, it's, it's a thing.

• 1:29:24David Imel?

  Coincidence?

• 1:29:25Speaker 02

  Someone, someone asked Gemini.

• 1:29:27Andrew Manganelli?

All right, well, you guys are figuring that out. I need to-

• 1:29:28Speaker 02

I have the transcript up. Crack, uh, when you use crack as an adjective like this, it can only, uh, apply to a team, a crack team of people. Really? Yes, and it dates back to the late 1700s in English. So everyone can, can say, "I'm sorry, Ellis."

• 1:29:45Andrew Manganelli?

  I agreed with you.

• 1:29:47Speaker 02

You're cutting it? Absolutely. You're cutting my hilarious-

• 1:29:49David Imel?

  We can't talk about-

• 1:29:50Speaker 02

  Crack investigator?

• 1:29:54Speaker 02

Welcome back, trivia. This is definitely the first time we recorded me saying this question, and not because I totally misspoke. But Craig Federighi made his normal joke of Apple's crack team of product marketers traveling around California, getting inspiration for the new name. But this time, he mentioned a weekly ski trip that this team takes. Mandatory. Miss, yeah, it was a weekly mandatory ski trip. That was so funny. Uh, wow. You know, Craig, sometimes you really hit them with the zingers. Uh, but he used one particular, very un-Apple word to describe the tracks left in the snow during the ski trip. What was that word? Hit it.

• 1:30:37David Imel?

  Very un-Apple word?

• 1:30:38Speaker 02

  Very un-Apple word.

• 1:30:39David Imel?

Wait, play the "Were you paying attention" sound.

• 1:30:43Speaker 05

  Were you paying attention?

• 1:30:44David Imel?

  Thanks. Wow, layers.

• 1:30:47Speaker 02

  There's layers to this.

• 1:30:49David Imel?

  Un-Apple.

• 1:30:50Speaker 02

Un-Apple, very not apple. I've never heard anything like this word used in any sort of Apple presentation.

• 1:31:02Speaker 02

All right, who wants to go first?

• 1:31:10Speaker 04

  Did you write fat?

• 1:31:11Andrew Manganelli?

  That's awesome.

• 1:31:12Speaker 02

Fat with a PH, which unfortunately isn't correct.

• 1:31:15Speaker 04

That would, I wrote something with the Google Play buttons covering it up and I can't read it. So it must be right.

• 1:31:23Speaker 04

  I wrote listening.

• 1:31:24Speaker 02

  Oh, no, unfortunately.

• 1:31:26David Imel?

  I wrote Google.

• 1:31:28Speaker 02

I love that answer, but unfortunately it is wrong. The correct answer is.

• 1:31:31Speaker 06

But Mac OS demands more. Fortunately, after carving some bodacious tracks.

• 1:31:38Speaker 02

  The word was bodacious.

• 1:31:40Speaker 01

  That's very.

• 1:31:40Speaker 02

  The word was bodacious.

• 1:31:42Speaker 01

  Extremely Apple like.

• 1:31:43Speaker 02

  That is not Apple like.

• 1:31:45Speaker 04

It's extremely Craig, like, like Craig Skit Apple like.

• 1:31:50Speaker 02

I had, I don't know about that, man.

• 1:31:51Speaker 01

That music, that was bodacious type music.

• 1:31:54Speaker 02

Well, you all got that one wrong. Yeah. Uh, but before I give you the chance to get another question wrong, I'm going to pass it to my co-host, Adam, who's going to update you on the scores.

• 1:32:05Speaker 04

Marquez with 25, Andrew with 16, David, David, how old are you?

• 1:32:13David Imel?

  I'm 30.

• 1:32:13Speaker 04

  With 30.

• 1:32:14David Imel?

  Ayo.

• 1:32:15Speaker 04

All right. So next question, in the first frame of the WWDC 2025, 26, I don't know. In WWDC, the first frame, Craig is riding in an F1 car. He's got a helmet. Tell me what one of the ads are on his helmet.

• 1:32:38David Imel?

You didn't ask how old I was.

• 1:32:40Speaker 04

  Marquez, how old are you?

• 1:32:41David Imel?

  25.

• 1:32:41Speaker 04

  25. You know what's better than 25?

• 1:32:45David Imel?

  26.

• 1:32:45Speaker 02

  30.

• 1:32:48Speaker 02

I think this might be the largest lead anyone has ever had.

• 1:32:51David Imel?

What brand would Apple associate with?

• 1:32:54Speaker 04

I don't even, I didn't see a single ad on there that I thought was a real thing. I thought they were all fake.

• 1:33:00Speaker 02

  They're all real.

• 1:33:00Speaker 04

So I just made up some letters that I think I saw.

• 1:33:03Speaker 02

Okay, great. You might get it right.

• 1:33:06Speaker 02

  Flip him and read. Wow.

• 1:33:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Did I?

• 1:33:10Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:33:11Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm closer.

• 1:33:11Speaker 02

You're closer than I thought you would have guessed.

• 1:33:13Andrew Manganelli?

  IFX.

• 1:33:13Speaker 02

  You're thirty percent there.

• 1:33:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Is it like FTX?

• 1:33:16Speaker 02

  No, no, you're thirty percent.

• 1:33:18Speaker 01

  I should have guessed FTX.

• 1:33:19Speaker 02

  You only got one right.

• 1:33:20Andrew Manganelli?

  X?

• 1:33:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:33:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Gonna give it to you.

• 1:33:24Speaker 01

  Is it really X?

• 1:33:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, IFX.

• 1:33:29Speaker 02

  Wrong.

• 1:33:30Speaker 04

  Marquez.

• 1:33:30Speaker 01

  Uh, I have two.

• 1:33:32Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 1:33:32Speaker 01

  Expensify?

• 1:33:34Speaker 04

Correct. That was one of them.

• 1:33:36Speaker 01

  GICO?

• 1:33:37Speaker 04

  No, not GICO.

• 1:33:38Speaker 01

  There's an Expensify?

• 1:33:39Speaker 04

Expensify was one of the ads on his helmet. Marquez was paying attention.

• 1:33:42Speaker 01

  That's crazy.

• 1:33:43Speaker 04

  Nice.

• 1:33:43Speaker 01

Did you look it up? No. You know how I remember this? I'll tell you after. I'll tell you after you give your answer. Siri.

• 1:33:50Speaker 04

  Nope.

• 1:33:51Speaker 01

Yeah. Uh, my answer is they have that Formula One car sitting in Apple Park and they paraded us all over to go look at it.

• 1:34:00Andrew Manganelli?

I didn't get to see it.

• 1:34:01Speaker 01

And the first thing I was thinking was, how did they get all these brands to agree to all of this? And I remember that Expensify was right on the nose cone.

• 1:34:08Speaker 04

Damn. Andrew was actually very close as well.

• 1:34:11Speaker 01

  What was the close to?

• 1:34:13Speaker 04

He was close. He said I, what'd you say?

• 1:34:15Andrew Manganelli?

  IFX.

• 1:34:15Speaker 04

  IFX?

• 1:34:16Andrew Manganelli?

APX? Oh, that's what I was thinking.

• 1:34:18Speaker 04

And then you were also close to IWC, so I think you combined the two.

• 1:34:23Speaker 01

Oh, there is a shell one.

• 1:34:24Andrew Manganelli?

No, that's the actual Formula One driver.

• 1:34:27Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:34:27Andrew Manganelli?

But Shark Ninja are on there.

• 1:34:31Speaker 04

  Like the, the streamer?

• 1:34:33Speaker 01

No, like the, the, the blender.

• 1:34:35Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:34:37Speaker 01

A blender company has enough money for that?

• 1:34:39Andrew Manganelli?

Dude, Ninja is not, Ninja has money.

• 1:34:42Speaker 02

Dude, it's not just a blender, bro.

• 1:34:44Speaker 01

  It's a way of life.

• 1:34:47Speaker 01

  It's not a gym.

• 1:34:48Andrew Manganelli?

There's the first frame right there.

• 1:34:49Speaker 01

  Huh. That's crazy.

• 1:34:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Expensify.

• 1:34:52Speaker 01

It is kind of being obfuscated.

• 1:34:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah. Wow.

• 1:34:56Speaker 01

That's wild. Yeah, I still wonder how the brands thing work, but we don't know the answers. They probably won't tell us the answers, but hey, it's a movie you can watch at some point, probably in like a month. Uh, thanks for watching. Thanks for listening and for tuning in with us this week as we plow through all this WWDC stuff. There will be more coverage of this stuff because we want to use them. We want to show it on camera. We might find some cool features, some hidden stuff you didn't see in the keynote, et cetera. That always happens every year, so get subscribed to the other channels, just like you're subscribed here, to see that when it comes out, too. See you next week. Bye.

• 1:35:26Andrew Manganelli?

• 1:35:31Speaker 01

  Bingo.

• 1:35:48Speaker 01

Did you listen to the rest of Streetlight Manifesto?

• 1:35:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Um.

• 1:35:51Speaker 01

  Oh, my God.

• 1:35:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh.
