Support for the show comes from Google Gemini. You know that moment when curiosity strikes? You're exploring a new city with the family and a sculpture catches your daughter's eye. What is that? Who made it? With Gemini, you can snap a picture and get a fully interactive breakdown of its history, architecture, and even hidden secrets. Gemini is built for moments like that. Whether you're learning something new, solving a problem, or looking for your next favorite thing, Google Gemini is here to help. Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:23Speaker 01

  That's J-I-R-A dot com.

• 1:25David Imel?

The How to Train Your Dragon movie just looks like an animated movie.

• 1:29Andrew Manganelli?

  That's, yeah.

• 1:30David Imel?

  That's what's weird about it.

• 1:32Andrew Manganelli?

But I guess that's what's kind of cool is like, it'll feel super on-brand because it's already.

• 1:39David Imel?

Yeah. Well, Toothless looks exactly the same.

• 1:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Just with like RTX on.

• 1:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:52Speaker 01

Yeah, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marques.

• 1:57Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:57David Imel?

  And I'm David.

• 1:58Speaker 01

  Whoa. All of us.

• 2:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 2:02David Imel?

  Well, we were all here.

• 2:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Because Ellis is back.

• 2:04David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 2:04Speaker 04

  I'm chewing. Why do you?

• 2:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 2:07Speaker 01

We're all back and there's been a lot of stuff that's kind of all all over the map sort of unrelated stuff. So what we're gonna do is exactly what you think we're gonna do with a whole bunch of unrelated stuff headlines in a hat. We're just gonna talk about that stuff because we have opinions and thoughts and hot takes about all of them.

• 2:24Andrew Manganelli?

It just the waveform slack, which is where we all post things over the week, just felt like it was nonstop for like the last seven days. Just like leaks and rumors and teasers and all sorts of little small things that we will all cover today. And then we're gonna end with a Valentine's themed game that Adam.

• 2:43Speaker 01

  Where we all kiss.

• 2:43Andrew Manganelli?

  For all you.

• 2:47Speaker 04

  How'd you know?

• 2:48Speaker 01

  I'm also realizing.

• 2:50Andrew Manganelli?

  State of the end is.

• 2:51Speaker 01

I'm also realizing it's headlines in a hat and Andrew, you're the only one with a hat.

• 2:54Andrew Manganelli?

  I am the only one.

• 2:55Speaker 01

So I think we have to use your hat.

• 2:56Andrew Manganelli?

We do, but there is one thing I want to talk about before the hat.

• 2:59Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 3:00Andrew Manganelli?

Which is every year around this time, we talk about things that happened at the Super Bowl because there's usually a lot of tech commercials at the Super Bowl.

• 3:07Speaker 01

  True.

• 3:08Andrew Manganelli?

I found almost nothing interesting at the Super Bowl this year, except for two small things that I want to bring up. And if anyone has any else, the commercials were more boring than last year.

• 3:19Speaker 01

Yeah, I heard they were kind of bad.

• 3:20Speaker 04

Pretty meh. It was pretty crazy that OpenAI used Sora to generate their commercial though.

• 3:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Did they really?

• 3:25Speaker 04

No, it was made by a guy. In After Effects.

• 3:30Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, so the two things that I noticed, the scoreboard design was atrocious.

• 3:36Speaker 01

  Was atrocious?

• 3:37Andrew Manganelli?

  It was awful.

• 3:38Speaker 01

It's it was polarizing. I saw a lot of people saying it was great.

• 3:41Andrew Manganelli?

I didn't see a single person saying it was great.

• 3:43Speaker 01

I thought it was perfectly fine.

• 3:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 3:45Speaker 04

That's where I landed. It was definitely fine. It wasn't terrible.

• 3:49Speaker 01

  Why was it atrocious?

• 3:50Andrew Manganelli?

  It was.

• 3:50Speaker 01

  It was big?

• 3:51Andrew Manganelli?

It felt so like there's a point of minimalism where it just feels unfinished. And that's what I I thought at points I was gonna see the like PNG checkered background behind it like they had forgotten to actually like export it correctly.

• 4:05Speaker 01

  I think that looks cool.

• 4:06Andrew Manganelli?

No, I mean, no, it's not that.

• 4:08Speaker 01

So they had a they had a very subtle, dark gradient background behind it. A little, a little dark.

• 4:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 4:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 4:15Andrew Manganelli?

It's just two boxes that say KC PHI.

• 4:19Speaker 01

  I love that.

• 4:19Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's.

• 4:20Speaker 01

What I don't like is that the scores are inverted depending on what side you're looking at. So it's kind of confusing to know how many points Philadelphia have.

• 4:29Andrew Manganelli?

What do you mean like it's like on the inside?

• 4:30David Imel?

They put the score on the right for Kansas City and on the left for Philadelphia.

• 4:33Speaker 04

If you watched the game, it wasn't confusing to know how many points Philadelphia did.

• 4:38David Imel?

  It was very clear.

• 4:40Speaker 04

  Go Birds!

• 4:43David Imel?

  Right.

• 4:44Andrew Manganelli?

I think it's fine. Okay, maybe I would like to hear what people think in the comments. I thought it just felt super boring because there's so many other good animations and design throughout the game. Like at the desk they sat at, they had this like these really beautiful, their logos that were like had sparkles and like things going on behind it.

• 5:01David Imel?

  Oh, you wanted the logos.

• 5:02Andrew Manganelli?

  I wanted anything.

• 5:03Speaker 04

  Something.

• 5:04Andrew Manganelli?

Something. It just felt so boring.

• 5:07Speaker 04

What if we tried to make these two teams look as similar as possible? Like what's the, where's the, where's the fun in that?

• 5:12Andrew Manganelli?

  It just felt.

• 5:13David Imel?

One is red and one is green.

• 5:14Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 5:15Andrew Manganelli?

Um, okay. My second one, one commercial that I will talk about was the Gemini ad, which was if you remember, so it's essentially a, a man standing in his kitchen using Gemini to like practice for a job interview that he has coming up.

• 5:30Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 5:30Andrew Manganelli?

And it asks him the question of like, what is a previous job? And like, how did you, how did you feel successful in that? And what he winds up describing is him being a dad and kind of like in job terms, all these ways of like, he worked with a small team and he worked long hours and all this stuff. And it was really adorable. What?

• 5:49Speaker 04

He found product market fit with his newborn.

• 5:53Andrew Manganelli?

He really learned how to raise investor capital with his daughter, but.

• 5:57Speaker 04

Investor capital is his daughter's name?

• 6:02Andrew Manganelli?

But maybe as a dad, it felt really nice to me. I thought it was well done, but I can't help but think it's the culmination of learnings from their Olympic ad, which was the exact opposite of like, I have a daughter who wants to write a letter, but I don't feel like writing it with her. Gemini, can you do it instead?

• 6:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Which they then pulled off.

• 6:20David Imel?

They took that down. Yeah. There's a lot of pushback on it.

• 6:23Speaker 04

Yeah. I think they went from going, let's do something very emotional that people will like to let's do something practical, like a job interview.

• 6:30David Imel?

  But they.

• 6:31Andrew Manganelli?

  No, it was more emotional.

• 6:33Speaker 04

Yeah, but the thing itself that he was using it for was a job interview.

• 6:36Andrew Manganelli?

  That's a good point.

• 6:37David Imel?

The actual task was not like, help me raise my kids.

• 6:40Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, that's a very fair point.

• 6:41David Imel?

  Let me do a task.

• 6:43Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. I thought it was really good. I thought it was probably the best ad outside of like the Nike ad, but after that, I can't think of, I think there was a Tim Robinson one later, but I had stopped watching at that point.

• 6:53Speaker 04

  That was pretty good.

• 6:53Andrew Manganelli?

I think I saw parts of it online because Tim Robinson can make anything funny, but.

• 6:58Speaker 05

The the Google commercial made me think of this comic that was getting like passed around Reddit and Twitter and Blue Sky and all that stuff by Tom Fishburne. It's two panels. And the first panel is this guy standing up, sitting in front of a computer and he says, "AI turns this single bullet point into a long email I can pretend I wrote." And then the second panel is a different guy, a different computer. And she says, "AI makes a single bullet point out of this long email that I can pretend I read."

• 7:23Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 7:25Andrew Manganelli?

That's pretty awesome. They should have just posted that for the Super Bowl ad.

• 7:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:28Andrew Manganelli?

That would have worked pretty well.

• 7:29Speaker 01

  Honesty sells. No, it doesn't.

• 7:33Speaker 01

Today is also a special day. Today is Valentine's Day 2025. By the time you're listening to this, it's coming out on Friday, Valentine's Day 2025, which means that it is YouTube's 20th birthday.

• 7:50Andrew Manganelli?

It also means if you're listening to this at 5:00 AM on your commute in, audio wise, you still have time to stop and get a card and flowers for whatever you forgot about.

• 8:00Speaker 01

You're welcome. Go get that done. But I figured in a in honor of YouTube's 20th birthday, and I've talked about YouTube a lot on this podcast, usually pretty positively, they're very stable, long-lasting social network.

• 8:14Speaker 05

  But this time.

• 8:15Speaker 01

No, so this time, you know, they're not perfect, obviously, but I figured I would give you guys some things that are younger than YouTube. So these are all things that didn't exist when YouTube was founded. You might have already heard the story. YouTube was originally a dating website. It was founded so that you could upload videos of yourself as part of the experience. Online dating, very interesting. Anyway, things that were not around when YouTube started, Valentine's Day 2020, 2005, when it started. Vine, TikTok.

• 8:47Andrew Manganelli?

  That one's pretty obvious.

• 8:49Speaker 01

  Instagram.

• 8:51Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 8:52Speaker 01

Reddit, Snapchat, Zoom, the iPhone, and everything that came from that, the App Store, the iPad, all that stuff, WhatsApp, Uber, Airbnb.

• 9:08Andrew Manganelli?

I think the most surprising one is the iPhone and Reddit just feels like the internet.

• 9:15Speaker 01

  Reddit feels like ancient history.

• 9:16Andrew Manganelli?

Now it feels like hot garbage, but um yeah, that one surprises me the most. A lot of the the

• 9:23Speaker 01

Yeah, you'd like Reddit surprises you the most?

• 9:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, I think so.

• 9:26Speaker 01

I remember when it came out and I was like, this is sick.

• 9:29Andrew Manganelli?

I don't remember when it came out. I remember when I started using it.

• 9:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:32Andrew Manganelli?

And my friend that got me into it, but.

• 9:35Speaker 01

There's a lot of social networks that started in like 2003, 2004, 2005. That was right around that boom. When a lot of them first, the the mega sites got made, like Gmail came up around then, Facebook. But yeah, this is YouTube's still around arguably at the peak of its powers still 20 years later. If it was a person to be old enough to vote. It's pretty sick.

• 9:57Andrew Manganelli?

If there's, I need something in there that's like a staple food item or like I need, I need.

• 10:03Speaker 01

  That didn't exist.

• 10:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, it didn't.

• 10:05Speaker 01

  Spread.

• 10:06Speaker 05

  Prime.

• 10:09Speaker 05

I don't have any food, but I have a few more to add to this list that I think are pretty good.

• 10:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:12Speaker 05

  Um, Spotify.

• 10:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:15Speaker 05

  The Nintendo Wii.

• 10:17Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 10:17Andrew Manganelli?

  It's older than the Wii.

• 10:19Speaker 05

  And get this.

• 10:20Speaker 01

  There was the YouTube app.

• 10:21Speaker 05

  Blu-ray discs.

• 10:23Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah. Damn.

• 10:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Blu-ray discs were not around.

• 10:26Speaker 05

They came out the year after.

• 10:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Wow.

• 10:28Speaker 05

  YouTube.

• 10:28Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and they've already gone to the wasteland.

• 10:31Speaker 05

Oh, I have another one. Windows Vista.

• 10:36Speaker 01

Hmm. Yeah, cuz I remember I had XP and I was doing tutorials on how to make your XP computer look like it ran Windows Vista without actually running Windows Vista. Cuz Vista was bad.

• 10:46Speaker 05

  Yeah, this is. One more.

• 10:50Speaker 05

  The news feed on Facebook.

• 10:52Speaker 01

Oh, yeah. I forgot they didn't have that at first.

• 10:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Facebook was a wild place.

• 10:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:57Speaker 05

  I wasn't there.

• 10:58Andrew Manganelli?

Walls were arguably the most confusing. If if you pitched how old Facebook worked now, you'd get nowhere cuz it made no sense at all.

• 11:07Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:07Andrew Manganelli?

That's YouTube's 20th birthday. It is one of the headlines currently in my hat, so we'll skip that one when it comes out.

• 11:13Speaker 01

  Oh, sure.

• 11:13Andrew Manganelli?

Um, but who would like to pick the first headline?

• 11:18Speaker 01

Um, where's, where are the headlines?

• 11:20Andrew Manganelli?

  They're in my hat.

• 11:21Speaker 01

How do I get them out?

• 11:23Andrew Manganelli?

I'll take that off. It's not glued to my head like Joe Dirt.

• 11:27Speaker 01

I'll take it. Wow. Joe Dirt with the Joe Dirt bass.

• 11:31Speaker 05

  Wait, what? Who's Joe Dirt?

• 11:33Speaker 01

  Joe Dart.

• 11:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Wait, what?

• 11:35Speaker 01

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 11:36Speaker 05

  I don't get that reference.

• 11:37Speaker 01

  Who is Joe?

• 11:38Speaker 05

  He has a hat.

• 11:38Andrew Manganelli?

I will do it very quickly. Joe Dirt's this crappy movie with David Spade where when he's a kid, he has like a head injury and they put this mullet wig on him and it like fuses to his head. So for the rest of his life, he has a mullet because it's fused to his head.

• 11:51Speaker 01

That is a bad movie plot.

• 11:53Andrew Manganelli?

It's not the whole plot. It's pretty much the plot, actually. Just kidding.

• 11:56Speaker 01

  So I enter unfortunately.

• 11:59Andrew Manganelli?

I already put the hat back.

• 12:00Speaker 01

  Perfect.

• 12:00Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, no, that's right. No, that's, that's a different one.

• 12:02Speaker 01

Oh, that's a different one. Cool. Okay, so, so the CEO of YouTube put out this sort of annual, I guess it's annual, a letter to creators where they talk about what they're doing, what they're hopefully focusing on going forward. And we couldn't help but notice that there was a solid focus on YouTube on TV, how YouTube is growing on TVs, how it's actually surpassed mobile. So there's more YouTube viewership on TVs than on smartphones, which is pretty crazy. But then I went and looked it up and, you know, this is obviously dependent on the audience and like where people are watching, what type of stuff they're watching.

• 12:37Speaker 01

To me, someone who does not watch any YouTube on TVs, I thought this was fascinating. I always hear about the living room experience, YouTube take no of the living room. And this is like, this is very interesting to me. So I went and looked up the MKBHD channel demographics. Forty-five percent mobile phone, twenty-seven and a half percent computer, eighteen and a half percent TV, eight percent tablet. So almost 20% of you watch MKBHD videos, not the podcast, but MKBHD.

• 13:09Andrew Manganelli?

It's almost exactly the same. It's 21% for the podcast.

• 13:12Speaker 01

Okay, so about a fifth of you watch this on TVs.

• 13:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 13:16Speaker 01

I think that was about what I thought, maybe a little higher than what I expected. But then I went and polled on Twitter, just curiously, and asked, do you actually watch YouTube on TV? And the three options I gave were all the time, sometimes, or rarely slash never. And it was almost an even split. It was almost an even split between, yeah, all the time. What are you talking about? I love watching YouTube on TV. It's most, a lot of people's replies were, yeah, I almost always watch YouTube on a TV. And then a lot of other replies were, I, including me, I can't remember the last time I put a YouTube video on a TV.

• 13:51Andrew Manganelli?

Can I make an analogy with a hard enough cut so where Adam might be able to edit this part out?

• 13:56Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 13:58Andrew Manganelli?

You discovering that people watch YouTube on TV this often is like, have you ever seen when two people talk about going to the bathroom and they're like, you stand up to wipe, you sit down to wipe and both people are amazed that the other option exists?

• 14:16Andrew Manganelli?

  That is like,

• 14:18Speaker 05

  Welcome to the waveform podcast.

• 14:20David Imel?

So disgusting. That is so gross.

• 14:23Speaker 01

They're always, or like, do you wash your legs, people? Like, there's, it's always shocked.

• 14:27David Imel?

  Wash your legs?

• 14:28Speaker 01

People are shocked. Yeah. See, people are like, do you wash your legs? And half people are like, wait, no.

• 14:32David Imel?

  The water runs down.

• 14:34Speaker 01

That's half the people. And the other half of people are like, no, you wash, obviously you wash your legs. So there's two halves.

• 14:39Andrew Manganelli?

You realizing that people watch on their TV often, to me, and I saw Ellis's face before when you mentioned this, like,

• 14:47David Imel?

  Zero?

• 14:48Andrew Manganelli?

I watch so much of my YouTube on TV. I would argue, yeah, outside of work, or when I like, just happen to try and listen to YouTube videos as like a podcast in my car. I'd say 90% of the YouTube I watch is on TV.

• 15:02Speaker 01

So describe, so you get home, it's the living room TV, you pop up on the couch and you grab that remote and you start typing with that arrow.

• 15:12Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, do you, every time you go and watch YouTube video, do you type in the search?

• 15:16Speaker 01

Actually, that's fair. I could just be.

• 15:17Andrew Manganelli?

So like, so much of his homepage, subscription page, um, recommended afterwards. It, when you do have to do that, it is a pain. I think there's a lot of UI changes that could be way better. I usually don't type. You can talk on your remote. Um, and it does a pretty good job, voice recognition, but I saw this great video the other day that I feel like kind of talks to this where it's like, finally got home so I can turn on the big screen while I scroll my little screen as reward for, uh, looking at the medium screen all day.

• 15:45Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 15:46Andrew Manganelli?

But yeah, I do it all the time. That way I can look at my phone and do stuff. I can have stuff up on the background or just like, I have a nice TV. I know you have a nice TV. I, yeah, like.

• 15:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:58Speaker 04

  I want to watch.

• 16:00Speaker 01

Oh, I agree. I mean, I so I have a lot of home iPad YouTube use. Actually, honestly, my iPad is 50% a YouTube machine.

• 16:09Speaker 04

  Wow.

• 16:09Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, how, real quick, how often do you watch YouTube on your TV?

• 16:13David Imel?

  So I have a projector. I don't have a TV.

• 16:14Andrew Manganelli?

Let's count that as a TV.

• 16:16Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 16:18Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 16:19Speaker 05

You have a projector running Android TV?

• 16:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 16:22Speaker 01

Yeah, so that's that'll show up in analytics as a TV.

• 16:25David Imel?

Yeah, I watch almost exclusively YouTube on it. So and and I watch probably more YouTube on that than I do on my phone.

• 16:33Speaker 01

  Aren't you also a 2X person?

• 16:36David Imel?

  Yes.

• 16:37Speaker 01

  So you're you're sitting back.

• 16:39David Imel?

I guess I watch on my computer a lot, too. I will say my phone YouTube usage is not that high unless I'm like on the subway or something or on an airplane.

• 16:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, same.

• 16:50Andrew Manganelli?

  What about you, too?

• 16:51David Imel?

  Bah.

• 16:52Speaker 05

I'm the same as David. I pretty much exclusively watch YouTube on my TV.

• 16:58Speaker 05

So much so, and this is a little embarrassing, but um I have been known to watch shorts on my TV.

• 17:06Speaker 04

  A little embarrassing?

• 17:08Speaker 05

  It's not.

• 17:08Speaker 01

  There's a shorts carousel?

• 17:09Speaker 05

I'm not saying I'm not saying I'm just sitting there, but you know.

• 17:13David Imel?

  What are you doing?

• 17:14Speaker 01

  You have to.

• 17:15Speaker 04

It's just one short flying over.

• 17:17Speaker 05

If I go on the homepage and you know, a short thumbnail catches my eye.

• 17:21Speaker 01

  Oh, boy.

• 17:21Speaker 05

  Sometimes I'll click it.

• 17:23Speaker 01

Does is there a shorts carousel in the YouTube TV app?

• 17:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 17:27Andrew Manganelli?

Get to it. It's harder to get to, I think, yeah.

• 17:29Speaker 05

And you you feel like you're one of the guys in Wally. You just point the remote TV and down arrow, down arrow, down arrow.

• 17:38Speaker 01

Yeah, that is a lot. Okay.

• 17:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Adam.

• 17:41David Imel?

  It's an experience.

• 17:42Speaker 04

I was looking through my YouTube just now to see if it gave me this information, which it does not, and I wish it did. But I feel like I rarely watch YouTube on my phone anymore. It's mostly on TV or computer. Those are the two that I'm split between.

• 17:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:59Andrew Manganelli?

I would say I think our audience is skewed. I'm sure a lot of our audience watches on phones versus TV because we're like such a phone-focused channel.

• 18:07Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 18:08Andrew Manganelli?

Um, I also am surprised. One thing I don't watch on TV is podcasts. I'm surprised.

• 18:13Speaker 01

Oh, I would think that would be the thing you watch the most on.

• 18:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 18:16Speaker 05

  How?

• 18:17Andrew Manganelli?

  I I love.

• 18:18Speaker 05

Feet is your TV from your sink?

• 18:19Speaker 01

  I was.

• 18:21Andrew Manganelli?

  From the sink?

• 18:21Speaker 01

I was just gonna ask everyone.

• 18:23Speaker 05

  Rockefeller over here.

• 18:26Speaker 01

I was gonna ask, everyone who watches YouTube on the TV or projector, how far away are you sitting from the screen? 10 feet. Pretty close.

• 18:33Andrew Manganelli?

I have a pretty solid, I have a solid living room, so.

• 18:37Speaker 01

It's like across the room. I just feel like if it's a big, nice TV, like I, when I'm, I guess I'm the only one, when I'm watching on my iPad, that's the big, nice screen in front of me. And it's close enough to me that I can see and appreciate little details. I'm watching reviews, I'm watching like, car videos, tutorials, random, how to that like home gym build I sent you guys the other day, it's like.

• 18:58Andrew Manganelli?

Shout out that channel, because he was listening to waveform in, on his TV, in the video.

• 19:03Speaker 01

I watched a home gym video, I'll, I'll, we'll link in the show notes, and if you look in the background long enough, you'll see a clip of the waveform podcast, so that was sick. But, that's like me going, watch in 4K and like, full screen, and like, that's me enjoying a high-res.

• 19:19Andrew Manganelli?

Why not do that on a TV?

• 19:20Speaker 01

Because the TV's too far away.

• 19:21Andrew Manganelli?

  What is your, what?

• 19:22Speaker 01

Oh, okay. For me to experience, like, by the time it's 10, 15 feet away, it's small again.

• 19:28Andrew Manganelli?

Sounds like you need a bigger TV, or a smaller living room.

• 19:31Speaker 01

  Just trying to optics.

• 19:35Speaker 01

I got the, I got the food in front of me, and then the, I'm the iPad kid, it's like, right there.

• 19:39Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, even when you're eating and watching YouTube on the TV is like, my food will go cold sometimes, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm watching, but, it's bad. But, that's the best way to do it.

• 19:52Speaker 01

That because, like, longer form content is like, much more popular now than it used to be, and is kind of the meta on YouTube, that probably correlates with TV usage going higher. Because most of the content that I watch on my TV is like, 25-minute videos about city development and stuff. I think that's, I think that's the sweet spot for TV, because I think there's like, hour-long podcasts that people throw on in their car, and like, mostly listen to it, and I think there are short videos that people scroll vertically on their phone. But I think for like, a 20-minute mealtime video, like the Mealtime subreddit, Meal, Meal videos. Mealtime videos. Mealtime videos.

• 20:26Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 20:27Speaker 01

  25-minute.

• 20:27Andrew Manganelli?

Can you guys send that to me later? I need that.

• 20:29Speaker 01

It's literally just like, I'm about to sit down and eat, let me watch a video that's about the length of it.

• 20:34Andrew Manganelli?

I put that on my TV, every time.

• 20:36Speaker 01

  Interesting, okay.

• 20:37David Imel?

  Um, there you go.

• 20:39Andrew Manganelli?

I, I agree with you on the longer form stuff. I think I've gotten like really into, I watched, uh, like video game things, whether it was like the making of the Lego Island game a long time ago. There's a documentary on YouTube about that.

• 20:51David Imel?

  Really?

• 20:52Andrew Manganelli?

It's really good. And there's another one about Simpsons hit and run, speedrun records, which was really awesome. That's the kind of stuff. And that means I can scroll on my phone at other times.

• 21:03David Imel?

  You're also on your phone.

• 21:04Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Also, right now it means I can like, if Lanes off to the side playing with something else, I'm not like right in on my phone.

• 21:10David Imel?

You play Pokemon TCG while you're, while you're watching your documentary.

• 21:15Speaker 01

  I learned a lot today.

• 21:16Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, wait, I want to issue a challenge before this.

• 21:19Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 21:20David Imel?

  Do back.

• 21:20Andrew Manganelli?

Up until next podcast. If you are in your living room.

• 21:25Andrew Manganelli?

And no one else is using the TV, you have to watch any YouTube you want to watch on the TV.

• 21:32Speaker 01

  Okay. Yeah. I mean, okay.

• 21:34David Imel?

  Just like experience.

• 21:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Just experience.

• 21:36Speaker 01

Yeah, I'll, I'll play with the app. Look, honestly, anytime I use that app, which is few and far between, it's not very good. Like in order to change resolution, which I habitually do every time I watch a video to max it out, it's a bunch of clicks.

• 21:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:49Speaker 01

  Versus a mobile experience.

• 21:51Andrew Manganelli?

In their defense, it's also a bunch of clicks on mobile. You have to like click the little gear, additional settings.

• 21:56Speaker 01

Yeah, but it's all right there in front of me. I'm just poking it versus like going on a remote. Anyway, I'll, I'll do it.

• 22:01Andrew Manganelli?

Do it. I want to hear next week, what you think about it.

• 22:03Speaker 01

I don't spend a lot of time in the living room, but if I, if I do find myself there and I was gonna watch it on the iPad, I'll watch it on the TV.

• 22:11Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like watching YouTube on mobile is such like an active experience versus.

• 22:16Speaker 01

  Cause you're holding it.

• 22:16Andrew Manganelli?

Cause you're holding it or like it's right in front of you. Like you can't do anything else versus, I feel like when I watch a lot of YouTube, I'm kind of like relaxing. So I'm lounging, I'm kicking back on the couch and that's when I put on YouTube on the TV.

• 22:28Speaker 01

Yeah, I heard somebody describe it recently as sit back versus sit forward viewing, like lean back.

• 22:36Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, I'm laying all the way down with a blanket on. I am a on the couch blanket kind of guy.

• 22:41Speaker 01

I think the TV watching is mostly laying back and I think that's also what the iPad is for me, but I think the lean forward computer TV or computer or smartphone experience is different. And that's all I really have locked down.

• 22:55Speaker 04

You know what's interesting about this?

• 22:56Andrew Manganelli?

I just want you to relax, man.

• 22:57Speaker 04

I feel like a couple of years ago, I remember listening to someone at, I think Reed Hastings at Netflix, someone like that, say like their main competitor is YouTube.

• 23:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 23:06Speaker 04

And I remember like hearing that and be like, okay, like, what are you talking about? But I kind of see it now.

• 23:11Speaker 01

  It's an attention economy.

• 23:12Andrew Manganelli?

Neil says in here for the last two years, they're the most watched streaming service.

• 23:15Speaker 04

  Yeah, that's crazy.

• 23:16Andrew Manganelli?

  On TVs.

• 23:17Speaker 01

That's the thing, YouTube, and we'll end on this, YouTube is so massive, they are both the number one watched streaming service and the number one podcast player.

• 23:25David Imel?

Which is why Netflix is exploring adding podcasts.

• 23:28Speaker 01

  It's true.

• 23:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:30Speaker 01

Do you think they're gonna compete with YouTube podcasts?

• 23:31David Imel?

  They're gonna try.

• 23:32Speaker 01

They don't have an explorer engine quite like YouTube yet.

• 23:35David Imel?

No, but I bet you they're gonna try to do what Spotify did, getting like Joe Rogan exclusively. They'll probably try to get a video podcast exclusively.

• 23:42Speaker 01

But I'm not gonna like, sit down for a commute and open a Netflix app for podcasts.

• 23:48David Imel?

People do it for the games. People play the Netflix games.

• 23:51Speaker 04

  I, they actually-

• 23:52Andrew Manganelli?

I know they do, but I refuse to believe it.

• 23:55David Imel?

I agree with you. Apparently the YouTube games are also popular.

• 23:58Speaker 01

I do see them when I scroll. I've scrolled past them every single time. I've never clicked on it.

• 24:03David Imel?

  They're just horrible.

• 24:04Speaker 04

They're, no, whoa, they're pretty good. You should play them.

• 24:07Speaker 01

  Oh god.

• 24:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Alright, next headline.

• 24:09Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 24:10Andrew Manganelli?

Also, sorry, I keep putting the hat back on, but I have some pretty brutal hat here and it needs to go back on.

• 24:14Speaker 01

Headlines and a hat, we gotta, gotta pick another headline. Next headline.

• 24:20David Imel?

  Uh oh.

• 24:20Speaker 01

The Pixel 9A is leaked a little bit. Now, usually pixels don't leak, so-

• 24:26Andrew Manganelli?

  A little bit.

• 24:27Speaker 01

So this is kind of rare.

• 24:29David Imel?

  New experience.

• 24:29Speaker 01

Yeah, this never happens. No, there's a couple colors, the Pixel 9A, I guess we are expecting to see this come out around Google I/O, which is May. Didn't they just say the date?

• 24:37Andrew Manganelli?

  This rumor says March.

• 24:39Speaker 01

  Oh, cause the A series-

• 24:39Andrew Manganelli?

And they just announced the Google I/O date as May 20th, right?

• 24:43Speaker 01

May 20th. Oh, so maybe before I/O. Cool.

• 24:47Speaker 01

Well, yeah, in that case, we see the rumors. It looks like it's mostly flat. I don't know if you guys remember the Essential Phone, but it's giving me Essential Phone vibes.

• 24:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:55Andrew Manganelli?

Good vibes to have in terms of look.

• 24:58Speaker 01

Essential Phone was a huge battery.

• 25:00Speaker 04

  Thanks for clarifying.

• 25:01Speaker 01

  Huge battery on the 9A.

• 25:03David Imel?

It says that the rumor is a 5100 milliamp hour battery.

• 25:06Andrew Manganelli?

Do you want me to just run through all the rumors I gathered up really quick?

• 25:09Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 25:09Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, again, rumored by multiple different places, so the the potential for anything here to change is very high. But yeah, four colors, which are black, white, pink, purple. Essentially zero camera bump. There is a little tiny camera bump, but it is essentially flat.

• 25:27Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 25:28Andrew Manganelli?

Two cameras. What I have, the side rails are flat and it matches colors.

• 25:33Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 25:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Sorry, you guys are.

• 25:36Speaker 04

I just showed Ellis the picture of the purple one and he's freaking out.

• 25:40Andrew Manganelli?

It looks very similar to the iPhone mini that Ellis has. I, okay, spec rumors, 48 megapixel main camera, 13 megapixel ultra wide, 13 megapixel selfie camera, 5100 milliamp hour battery, potentially 499 for the 120 gig model, 599 for the 256 gig model, 6 point inch, 6.3 inch screen, 120 hertz refresh rate, tensor G4, 8 gigs of RAM.

• 26:04Speaker 01

So they did the thing that everyone's been asking for. They just made the phone thicker, put a bigger battery in, and now there's no camera bump. Ta-da. It's what we've been asking for.

• 26:14David Imel?

  Allegedly.

• 26:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Allegedly.

• 26:15Speaker 01

Allegedly. But that seems like, I mean, an easy way to be a crowd favorite. 499, 120 hertz, still not tiny, 6.3 inch screen, but you know, people want big phones, so.

• 26:27David Imel?

  Big battery.

• 26:28Speaker 01

  Yeah. I'm not mad.

• 26:30Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it looks cool.

• 26:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:31Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it looks good.

• 26:32David Imel?

So are we in the position again where it's like, why would you buy the Pixel 9? Just like we were last year when it was, why would you buy the Pixel 8 when the 8A is?

• 26:40Andrew Manganelli?

Well, how much can you buy Pixel 9 for right now? I guess.

• 26:42Speaker 01

  That's a valid point.

• 26:43David Imel?

  Probably the same price?

• 26:46Speaker 01

The difference would be maybe some camera stuff. It's they both have the tensor G4, right? They're gonna have different cameras. They're both gonna be 120 hertz. They're gonna be similar screen sizes.

• 26:58Andrew Manganelli?

Pixel 9 128 right now is 649 on the Google Store.

• 27:02David Imel?

But there's a President's Day sale going on as well.

• 27:06Speaker 01

The Pixel 9 battery is also only 4700 milliamp hours. While the Pixel rumored 9A is 5100, so this is probably gonna be a pretty sick battery. If it does end up being this. And, correct me if I'm wrong, Pixel 9, triple cameras? Double. Only dual? Okay, so they're both dual cameras. And an ultra wide? Yeah, great. Yeah. Okay. It's 640, this Pixel 9 is currently 649 on Amazon. It's $150 off.

• 27:33Andrew Manganelli?

  I have a hot take.

• 27:34Speaker 01

  So?

• 27:35Andrew Manganelli?

If this Pixel 9A ends up being even halfway decent, is this phone of the year?

• 27:42Speaker 01

It's definitely made a choice that qualifies it for phone of the year, which is like that thing we've all been asking for, just make a thicker phone.

• 27:48Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, like what if it lasts like 3 days?

• 27:50Speaker 01

But it's February. It'd be awesome. It is, it is early, but, I mean, it's never too early to start. It's like in the first 3 games. First 3 games of the NBA season, we've got like an MVP ladder, like who's the MVP this season? It's been 3 games, we have no idea. But I think in our way too soon power rankings, a phone of the year. Technically, 1+13 came out last year. Yeah. So it doesn't qualify, but it kind of set the tone.

• 28:15Andrew Manganelli?

But this would be like, be like, Luca's got a chance of winning MVP because he, he might score. I don't even know how much, is a lot of 70 points? Like, yeah, these are rumors, it doesn't even exist.

• 28:27Speaker 01

But he's saying if it does come out like this.

• 28:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, okay.

• 28:30Speaker 01

It would be a, it would, yeah, it would qualify. Luca also wasn't the affordable option. Well, they got a hell of a deal, so I guess it kind of was, I guess.

• 28:38Andrew Manganelli?

They had a good trade in deal for Luca.

• 28:39Speaker 01

Yeah, a good trade in deal, exactly. That's fair. All right, I like it. Next headline?

• 28:44Andrew Manganelli?

That's the 20th birthday one, so I'll throw that out.

• 28:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Rivian teasers.

• 28:50Speaker 01

I remember my 20th birthday. Rivian teasers?

• 28:53Andrew Manganelli?

Yes, so Rivian tweeted out yesterday, I believe.

• 28:57Speaker 01

So this is also kind of rumors.

• 28:59Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it's just a tweet that says February 19th, sign up for updates, and 4 photos. The 4 photos are, sand with tire marks in it.

• 29:08Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 29:09Andrew Manganelli?

A sand dune with what feels like spikes coming out of it.

• 29:12Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 29:13Andrew Manganelli?

A black and white photo of essentially like the bottom of a Rivian driving through the sand. And then the last one is a view through a gear tunnel to see sand dunes.

• 29:24Speaker 01

This is either one of 2 things. One, it's either a crazy unannounced new vehicle, like an R2T.

• 29:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 29:35Speaker 01

  Or it's

• 29:35Andrew Manganelli?

  What I hope it is.

• 29:36Speaker 01

Or it's an extremely underwhelming, like, random, like, desert drive event that you can attend.

• 29:42Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, I was gonna say, sorry.

• 29:44Speaker 01

Don't they have a soft sand drive mode on the R1T?

• 29:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 29:47Speaker 01

So what if they're just releasing like a hard sand drive mode? That would be even more underwhelming. Yeah.

• 29:54Andrew Manganelli?

Here's my underwhelming guess, which is, uh, some addition to the Rivian Adventure Network or Rivian Waypoint charging system that's in a national park that has to do with sand.

• 30:06Speaker 01

  Like Death Valley or something.

• 30:07Andrew Manganelli?

Or Great Sand Dunes National Park. Because they have one in Yosemite already, they had a cool announcement for it. They hyped it up a lot that like Rivian's whole vibe is kind of like being able to adventure more. They wanted to add more to national parks because those are harder places to get an EV to because of lack of charging stations. So I wonder if this is gonna be an addition to a national park that has sand dunes.

• 30:31Speaker 01

Yeah, I'm like, I'm trying to read, just like how we like look at Apple event invites and like read way too far into it. This is four images, so I'm going to overanalyze to the max the four images, right? First of all, if you click the link and it says sign up for updates, if you click the link, it says sign up for updates on upcoming product launches, special events, and what's next for Rivian. So this is either a product launch, a special event, or what's next for Rivian, right? The fourth photo is a gear tunnel. So this will in some way involve a pickup truck. Not the R2, not the R3. It has to be either R1T or some other pickup truck, right? All four photos have sand in them. So the theme here is clearly the desert and the sand and something with this environment.

• 31:16Speaker 01

And I think that's as far as you can go, which means it's either, one, a special event where you can drive them on sand, or, two, a new product that specifically involves driving on sand, which seems unlikely, so I'm gonna go with special event.

• 31:31David Imel?

I have another theory. The only photo in which they actually show any of the body of the car is in black and white, so what if it's just a special color? Like a sand color?

• 31:42Speaker 01

The other question was, is this just them re-announcing the quad motor Rivian? Like the R1T quad? Which is the only one that you can get with the... Blue colored brakes, I believe. They have the like yellow accent on the launch edition and the blue accent on the quad. So maybe it's black and white to hide the blue.

• 32:00David Imel?

But the brakes aren't shown in the photo.

• 32:02Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 32:02David Imel?

  Just the body.

• 32:03Andrew Manganelli?

Can I give you why I think it's a charging network?

• 32:07Speaker 01

  A charging, yeah.

• 32:07Andrew Manganelli?

Based on the photos. Photo one, tire marks in the sand.

• 32:11Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 32:12Andrew Manganelli?

Being able to drive towards the sand, which could be a great sand dunes national park.

• 32:16Speaker 01

  Chicks out, okay.

• 32:17Andrew Manganelli?

Um, gear tunnel, looking at this. I mean, most of this has to do with like, look, there are the sand dunes. You can go to this place. It's generally outside of it. The photo with the spikes popping up and the shadows.

• 32:28Speaker 01

  That's the most confusing one.

• 32:29Andrew Manganelli?

Those are charging stations rising from the sands.

• 32:33Speaker 01

There's no scale to this photo.

• 32:35Andrew Manganelli?

There is no scale to this photo. Those are charging stations rising from the sands to introduce the new charging network place.

• 32:42Speaker 01

  That sounds.

• 32:43Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, we're being a little abstract here.

• 32:45Speaker 01

  Oh, okay.

• 32:46Speaker 04

I thought this was just them announcing that the next dune movie will have a Rivian.

• 32:51David Imel?

All I'm saying is that they don't have a sand colored Rivian currently. So I bet you they're probably gonna announce a sand colored Rivian.

• 33:00Andrew Manganelli?

A khaki Rivian would be pretty sweet. I'd be into that. I want it to be R2D. I want it to be the Maverick Rivian.

• 33:09Speaker 01

We should place bets, but there's just no way.

• 33:11David Imel?

  Sand color.

• 33:12Speaker 01

I'm going with either special event or sand mode.

• 33:15David Imel?

  Sand mode?

• 33:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:16David Imel?

  Like the hard sand?

• 33:17Andrew Manganelli?

Sand mode. This is too much of an announcement for sand mode, I think.

• 33:21Speaker 01

  No, they would do that.

• 33:22David Imel?

But is it too much of an announcement for sand color?

• 33:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:25Andrew Manganelli?

I think that's more visually pleasing than sand mode.

• 33:28Speaker 01

I think the tire tracks imply it's more than a color. So it's something to do with driving in the sand. It's either the quad or a driving in the sand event.

• 33:37David Imel?

  Or.

• 33:40Speaker 01

Or a sand mode. That's all I got.

• 33:43Speaker 04

So you're saying sand mode. David, you're saying sand color.

• 33:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:47Speaker 04

  Andrew, what are you saying?

• 33:50Andrew Manganelli?

Rivian, uh, what is it called Rivian Adventure Network? Or they're not all, because technically the one in Yosemite isn't Rivian Adventure Network. It's just a Rivian waypoint, but charging system inside of some popular

• 34:03David Imel?

  Charger.

• 34:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Like sand-based national park.

• 34:06David Imel?

I actually could see it being Quad because Quad on the buy page is the only one that's coming 2025.

• 34:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, Quad's not technically.

• 34:13Andrew Manganelli?

It could very well be Quad motor.

• 34:14David Imel?

Yeah, and they're just saying you need the Quad motor to drive through sand for some reason.

• 34:17Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe the Quad motor launches with sand mode. Maybe that's what it is. And you can experience the drive in this national park where we're also launching a new Charger. Boom, we all got it right.

• 34:28David Imel?

You know what? It's probably that. It's probably.

• 34:32Speaker 01

I don't think they're launching the Charger, but we'll see. We'll see. Well, we should take a quick break. We got way more headlines in Andrew's hat, believe it or not. Uh, but before we get there, trivia time.

• 34:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Wow.

• 34:54Speaker 05

  It's been a while.

• 34:56David Imel?

I haven't spoken in three weeks.

• 34:59Andrew Manganelli?

That is the audio equivalent of knocking your rest off.

• 35:03Speaker 05

  I'm back, everybody.

• 35:04David Imel?

Ellis has severance, but for, for waveform.

• 35:07Speaker 05

Missed me. Uh, before we get into trivia, uh, we wanted to give a quick shout out this week to our friends at Retrospect. Because someone put in the Slack yesterday that Urban Outfitters is selling iPods, real iPods. And we were like, what the heck? And then, uh, it turns out they were refurbished by Retrospect.

• 35:24Andrew Manganelli?

It's like first gen iPod Nano and, or no iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano.

• 35:30Speaker 05

  No, it was the Mini.

• 35:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Mini.

• 35:32Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 35:32David Imel?

Are they, they're not new, right? They're like refurbished.

• 35:34Speaker 05

They're refurbished, yeah. They might, they probably, I don't want to say anything without knowing, but I would imagine they have a new battery and potentially a new hard drive. I don't know. I haven't looked it up.

• 35:45Andrew Manganelli?

Well, what I looked in there is Retrospect sells like 100 things on Urban Outfitters.

• 35:51Speaker 05

  Oh.

• 35:51Andrew Manganelli?

Like almost their whole inventory on Urban Outfitters.

• 35:54David Imel?

Or like Retro Outfitters, am I right?

• 35:57Speaker 05

  Go retrospect. Anyway.

• 35:58Andrew Manganelli?

It comes with a 30 pin cable and the OG.

• 36:01Speaker 05

  Oh, yeah.

• 36:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Ear pods.

• 36:02Speaker 01

  There's a.

• 36:03Speaker 05

  What?

• 36:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 36:04Speaker 01

There's a crap load of retrospect stuff on here.

• 36:08Speaker 05

  They rule.

• 36:08Andrew Manganelli?

  That was awesome.

• 36:09Speaker 01

  Cool.

• 36:10Speaker 05

All right. Trivia. I missed a few weeks. I was on vacation, but I wanted to come back with a classic Ellis banger question. So tell me, guys, which of the following companies is not real? And instead of giving you a description of what they do, I'm just going to read you the company's Twitter bio.

• 36:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 36:32Speaker 05

These are all tech companies. A. Ski-O. Sell subscriptions without ripping your hair out. B. Fruit. F R O O T. Swift conversion. Automate legacy migration. Ship faster. C. Keak. K E A K. Keak. We are automating conversion rate optimization. Or D. Koho. Giving Canadians the tools and knowledge to make their money grow. I made up one of those.

• 37:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Made up one of those.

• 37:06Speaker 05

  Ski-O, Fruit, Keak, or Koho?

• 37:11Speaker 01

  Kiki.

• 37:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Just watch it on Hibley.

• 37:13Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 37:14Speaker 01

What about Dudu? Woo, woo, woo, foo.

• 37:18Andrew Manganelli?

  You watched Dudu standing up?

• 37:20Speaker 01

No, I watched on PP. I think that's our cue to take a break. Answers will be at the end like usual. We'll grip that.

• 38:50Speaker 01

All right, welcome back to Headlines in a Hat. We've got more headlines in Andrew's hat. They could say anything. They're from the past week. David, fire away.

• 38:58David Imel?

Here we go. Are you ready?

• 39:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:01David Imel?

  Powerbeats Pro 2.

• 39:06Andrew Manganelli?

I keep forgetting to write the actual headline. I just write what we're going to talk about. So maybe this, I should fix that next time, but.

• 39:12David Imel?

  Apple announces Powerbeats Pro 2.

• 39:16Speaker 01

Powerbeats Pro 2. My new favorite headphones.

• 39:19Speaker 05

Yeah, I wanted to ask you about that.

• 39:20Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, wait, do we have them?

• 39:22Speaker 01

  I do.

• 39:22Andrew Manganelli?

I want else to listen to them.

• 39:23Speaker 01

  Should I go get them?

• 39:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 39:24Speaker 01

Oh, I threw them on camera.

• 39:26David Imel?

  You threw them away?

• 39:27Speaker 01

  No, I threw them.

• 39:27Andrew Manganelli?

They're my favorite headphones ever. I tossed them.

• 39:30Speaker 01

No, no, no. I, I mean, so we reviewed them. They are the sequel to the Powerbeats Pro that came out five years ago. I reviewed those five years ago very positively. They're in a lot of ways to me, to me, better than AirPods Pro. They stayed in my ears better. They had better battery life. They're more durable. Um, fast forward to five years later and, you know, for 250 bucks, which they came out at, you're not trying to buy like a lightning charge, like non-wireless charging old, uh, set of earbuds. So they came out the sequel. And they're basically, uh, better in every imaginable way. They are the same exact launch price, but they added noise cancellation and transparency mode and adaptive EQ and spatial audio and the H2 chip. They are still IPX4 certified.

• 40:15Speaker 01

The case is smaller. The battery life is longer and charges more and has USB type C and has wireless charging and has better colors and the buds are lighter and more comfortable and they sound better. They did everything.

• 40:29Andrew Manganelli?

Did you already mention heart rate tracking?

• 40:31Speaker 01

And they have heart rate tracking, which is actually kind of the least important thing. But it's cool. It's convenient if you don't have a, if you don't have an Apple Watch, then it's like, if you wa, if you work out that much that you're buying $250 earbuds to work out in, I strongly suspect you already have a heart rate tracking solution.

• 40:46Andrew Manganelli?

  Totally.

• 40:46Speaker 01

But if you happen to not have one, okay, then yeah, you can do that, too.

• 40:50Andrew Manganelli?

Can I play super? I think they're great. I do really like them. If I can play super quick devil's advocate.

• 40:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:58Andrew Manganelli?

All of, all of those things are like the bare minimum of what a good pair of, uh, truly wireless earbuds needs right now. Like it's, it's adding all this stuff because five years ago, it was like on the verge of, of everything needed those, but like, at this point, any pair of truly wireless earbuds that are over a hundred dollars should have active noise cancelling and transparency mode. And like half of the things you just mentioned.

• 41:22Speaker 01

Totally true. I think qualitatively, after you get like past the spec sheet, it's like, these have really good

• 41:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 41:28Speaker 01

noise cancellation. They're a, a smidge below AirPods Pro, but like overall they sound really good. The sound character is fun. Like when I work out, I'm listening to like, I'm bumping like, like good, like hip hop and beats and things like that. And I, I don't mind the extra flavor in the sound and the beat, the bass is strong and they're loud. I love that. They're very comfortable too. So they stay in my ears, which is already pretty impressive to me. And then they stay sealed in my ears, which is another thing. So like AirPods Pro will stay in my ears, but the seal will like slowly weaken over time because of the rubber tips. These with the hooks, they just stay in my ears. They stay sealed. They sound great. The battery lasts like almost a, a month arguably with two hour workouts every single day. It's awesome.

• 42:13Speaker 01

Uh, so qualitatively on top of the specs, they're just fun. They're great. I like them. So I.

• 42:19Andrew Manganelli?

The color is awesome. I think they're super comfortable.

• 42:22Speaker 01

Electric orange is one of the colors. There's also a purple color, black and white also options. If you're a little more low key. Hyper purple is the.

• 42:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Hyper purple?

• 42:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:30Andrew Manganelli?

Color. Um, I'm saying this as someone who my current favorite earbuds are the Beats Fit Pro, cause I don't like the whole hook, but I do like the wing tips of it.

• 42:40Speaker 01

  I like those too.

• 42:41Andrew Manganelli?

I love, something I love about these, which is my least favorite thing in truly wireless earbuds are, I want it to be physical, some sort of a physical button, not touch control stuff. Cause anytime you adjust in your ears.

• 42:52Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 42:52Andrew Manganelli?

I hate that. So. Beats Fit Pro is a physical button. These have an up and down switch on both sides and physically, like you have to actually press in the button where the Beats logo, a clicking button.

• 43:05Speaker 01

Yeah, so you have the volume up and off the top. And then if you tap the Beats logo, that's your play/pause. If you hold it, that's your switch to transparency or noise cancellation. And it's an actual click that you can feel. Oh, it's in my backpack. That's why.

• 43:19David Imel?

I also like that you don't have to, because what I don't like about the ones you like, Andrew, the Beats Pro.

• 43:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Beats Fit Pro.

• 43:25David Imel?

Fit Pro is that, one, the wingtips eventually start hurting my ears, but maybe that's just my ears.

• 43:30Speaker 01

  That's, yeah.

• 43:31Andrew Manganelli?

  I think that's a personal thing.

• 43:32David Imel?

Yeah, but the other thing is that the, the physical button, you have to push it into your ear, which usually also hurts my ears. So I like that these have buttons on the side of them so that you kind of like click them.

• 43:44Andrew Manganelli?

There still is one, you can see right here where it's almost the same button as the Beats Fit Pro, but it still has the two volume buttons on it. I do think though, these, the hook for, if the wingtip hurts inside your ear, I think the hook will be the...

• 43:59Speaker 01

  It's more comfortable.

• 44:00Andrew Manganelli?

It's more comfortable and feels like it's gonna stay there, for sure.

• 44:04Speaker 04

I have a question about the using of these headphones. So one of the issues I have with my AirPods Pro is that sometimes I'll throw the, the AirPods back in the case and it just won't charge and I won't know that until the next time I pick them up. Like occasionally, one of them will just like be loose or something. And then one earbud will be charged up to 100%. The other one's like 29% or whatever. I've had that experience also with earbuds like this that have the hook, because it's more things that could potentially get caught on like the case and like not properly hit the, the magnets correctly or like whatever uses the charge.

• 44:39Speaker 01

  The contact.

• 44:39Speaker 04

Yeah, the contact. Did you have any of that when you were using this? Like, is it kind of annoying to put it back in?

• 44:44Speaker 01

No, so the case, I think, improved a lot of things. The magnets are strong. When I put them back in, it was like pretty obvious when they would lock into place. And I think if you, if you didn't quite get them right and tried to close the case, it wouldn't close. So then I correct them and then close it and it would close. You'd know they're charging.

• 45:02Speaker 01

And that was the other thing is like, they had this feature where if you put the like, let's say they die. And you put them in the case for like five minutes, that gets you 90 minutes of listening time. Which sounds really convenient, but also. In what world are you just letting the earbuds die? Like outside of the case, like you take them out of your ears and just like, put them down.

• 45:22Speaker 05

Well, that's what I mean. That's what happens to me because I think it's back in the case, but the case didn't close correctly or something. And that's what ends up happening.

• 45:28Speaker 01

No, if you put them in the case, these, I mean, I had no issues. They seemed to charge every single time perfectly. And then I kept forgetting to test battery life because I would habitually get done with them and put them back in the case. Be like, oh dang it, they're a hundred percent again. Like I forgot, because they just charged to a hundred percent every time. So yeah, the battery was just like something I didn't have to think about at all.

• 45:48David Imel?

How are the ANC in transparency modes?

• 45:50Speaker 01

So I would say if AirPods Pro 2 is the gold standard, 10 out of 10 for transparency mode. These were an eight and a half.

• 45:59David Imel?

  Okay.

• 46:00Speaker 01

  Pretty great transparency mode.

• 46:01Speaker 05

But, but they have the H2 chip.

• 46:03Speaker 01

They do. And I think that that's a little bit to do with like a physically different driver and maybe different microphone arrangements. Like it's not exactly the same as AirPods.

• 46:11Speaker 05

That was my follow up question is, yeah, how are they different? Cause they look so similar.

• 46:15Speaker 01

I mean, shape wise, they are different. They don't have a stem, so the, the microphones are in different places. So they are processing it with the same chip, but maybe with not exactly the same results.

• 46:26Speaker 05

Real quick, I'm not going to listen to these.

• 46:29Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 46:29Speaker 05

On the podcast. And the reason is, is remember a few months ago, I put out a video about speakers. And kind of like the big gist of the video is like, the driver is really important in a speaker. But so much of how a headphone sounds, or how any speaker sounds is about the cabinet. Right? Like the box the speakers in that resonates, all these low frequencies, spits out frequencies, does all sorts of stuff. When you put a, an in ear earbud with a gel tip in your ear. People talk about the seal being really important, right? That seal we can call acoustic coupling. And that means now you have like this, this chamber that energy doesn't leak out of.

• 47:10Speaker 05

The, your ear canal and the earbud itself have effectively formed this.

• 47:15Speaker 01

  Closed area.

• 47:16Speaker 05

  Boom.

• 47:17Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:17Speaker 05

That functions a lot like a speaker cabinet. But everyone's head is a different shape.

• 47:26Speaker 05

And the inside of everyone's head is an even more different shape.

• 47:30Speaker 01

I hear that the ear is as unique as your fingerprint.

• 47:33Speaker 05

Exactly. So think about all the weird length differences and angle differences and all the different ways someone's ear canal could be shaped. That has a ginormous impact on the way earbuds are going to sound. So two people could wear the exact same earbuds. And one person could say, the bass in these is insane. And the other person could say, these literally have no bass. And they would both be right.

• 47:57Speaker 01

I have a question about that.

• 47:58Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 47:59Speaker 01

Is it, so that's, I, that makes intuitive sense. Would it also make intuitive sense that once they're calibrated to their own ear, that the differences in either direction will stay the same? So if one person thinks the Beats have no bass and one person thinks they have a ton of bass. And then I give them both the Shox earphones, which have more bass. Will they both hear more bass?

• 48:25Speaker 05

I think. And I don't know, this is like sort of a pretty intense question, but I, I'm inclined to answer with.

• 48:36Speaker 05

It, there's more, there's too many asterisks to, for there to be one answer to that question, right? Like, like what frequencies are the dominant frequencies of the material you're listening to? What, what key is this song in? So therefore what is the lowest fundamental note you will hear? You know, because it's not about, you can describe it as more bass, less bass, but it is also is like your ear canals have a bend that make them resonate more at 50 hertz, whereas mine resonate more at 65 hertz. And depending on what key the song is in, we could perceive more or less bass.

• 49:10Speaker 01

Yeah, because there are, there are reviews of certain headphones that definitely are very bass heavy, where universally everyone's like, oh yeah, these, these have a ton of bass. And I like them because of that. Like I have songs that I listen to where there's a ton of sub bass and I listen to, on these headphones and it sounds great. And you read the reviews and everyone's like, yeah, these are really bassy.

• 49:29Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 49:29Speaker 01

So there's some sort of directional agreement, even though everyone's probably sounds slightly different per person.

• 49:37Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 49:37Speaker 01

So I listen to these Beats and I think, these sound really good. I don't say that about Beats very much. It's been, you know, years of reviewing Beats and I'm finally saying Beats sound like exactly how I want them to. So that's great. So that's why I like them.

• 49:51Speaker 05

No, and it's also why earbud arguments literally drive me up the wall. Because the true answer of what the best sounding true wireless earbud is, the one that sounds best to you.

• 50:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:01Speaker 05

Literally, there's, there is an IE standard for measuring the frequency response of earbuds. And in some respects, frequency response is more important from an earbud than a speaker because there's no room. But at the same time, it's actually way less important because we have rooms built into our noggins and everyone's is different. Anyway.

• 50:19Speaker 01

Because someone could say the PowerBeats Pro 2 are all about that bass and no treble, but another person might say that's all about the treble with no bass.

• 50:27Speaker 05

  Yeah, exactly.

• 50:28Speaker 01

  That's interesting.

• 50:30Speaker 05

I really wish I had something that clever.

• 50:31Andrew Manganelli?

  I have a question.

• 50:32Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:33Andrew Manganelli?

Did the original PowerBeats have adaptive EQ?

• 50:36Speaker 01

  No.

• 50:37Andrew Manganelli?

Do you think that's why it sounds a little better? The constant monitoring with microphones?

• 50:41Speaker 01

So I didn't listen in adaptive key EQ mode very much. So it's a third mode. So there is noise cancelling mode, transparency mode, and adaptive EQ mode.

• 50:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, interesting.

• 50:50Speaker 01

In adaptive EQ mode, where it's not doing all of the noise cancelling stuff, the battery life is the longest, 10 hours of charge. If you do AMC or transparency, something like eight hours of charge, or sorry, I said 10 for the first one, eight for that.

• 51:04Speaker 01

I mostly listen with noise cancelling on because it just, it's good enough. And this is to answer your previous question, like if AirPods Pro are a 10 out of 10, I know they're not, but let's say that's where they're at. These are also like an eight. So they will get rid of white noise mostly, and they're best at that. But you'll still get keyboard sounds and like other handling sounds.

• 51:23Andrew Manganelli?

I realized in the, in the video when you said that, it was like keyboard sounds might come through. And I was like, he's talking about my keyboards, which might be a little louder than the average.

• 51:31Speaker 01

Specifically on 20 feet to the left of you. That, that will make it through. Yeah. But I think in general, if you're turning the music up and you have the AMC on, you're just gonna hear music. So.

• 51:42Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Can I say one last thing about these? Whoever designed the website did a great job because David's been spinning around the virtual.

• 51:50Speaker 01

  It's basically a fidget.

• 51:51Andrew Manganelli?

  It's basically.

• 51:53Speaker 01

There's a 3D like version that you can look at. And whatever angle you're at, when you change color, it snaps back to the original.

• 51:59Andrew Manganelli?

It's really, it's really well done.

• 52:01Speaker 01

Very nice. Wow, that's pretty good. All right. Better than Apple's website.

• 52:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Next headline.

• 52:05Speaker 05

Wait, wait, just, okay, preliminary findings. They both have the same inside the ear optical sensor, just the powerbeats is rotated 90 degrees. The heart rate optical sensor not present on this guy.

• 52:21Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a rumor that the next AirPods might get one.

• 52:24Speaker 05

I could totally see that. The vents are different. Big, big giant vent on the side of the AirPods Pro not present on here. I can't even find the internal microphones on this thing, like the, the microphones that listen.

• 52:39Speaker 01

Yeah, I think they're behind the mesh, possibly.

• 52:41Speaker 05

I think what we need is for someone like Zach or iFixit to do a teardown on these. And then I'll be able to tell you more about if it's just a rehoused AirPod Pro 2. But I like the orange.

• 52:59Andrew Manganelli?

  The orange is really nice.

• 53:00Speaker 05

  The orange is sweet.

• 53:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Electric.

• 53:02Speaker 05

  That is Ellis's audio corner.

• 53:05Speaker 01

  Audio corner.

• 53:06Speaker 05

Aren't you guys so happy I'm back?

• 53:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Next headline.

• 53:09Speaker 01

  Next headline.

• 53:10Speaker 05

  It's hat time.

• 53:10Speaker 01

Is it me? All right. A few left. Dua Lipa interviewed Tim Cook. This headline, this headline says boomless supersonic plane.

• 53:21Andrew Manganelli?

We just finished one rant right into the next.

• 53:24Speaker 05

I'm not, I'm not ready for this rant.

• 53:25Speaker 01

I am ready for this because I'm, I'm kind of a fan. I talked about it on the last podcast. We did talk. So the update, so the supersonic plane that's being developed and tested in public and making all these headlines had another update and the update was that, and I don't know if this is unique to this plane, but essentially they've found that there's an altitude and a speed that you can fly, where you can fly supersonic and not cause an audible boom on the ground. Boom. Now, for those of you who may remember the Concorde. Or maybe you're just a nerd and you watch it on YouTube videos, you probably know that an airplane flying faster than the speed of sound creates.

• 54:06Speaker 01

A sonic boom on the ground, which is it passes by you and then at some point later, the sound wall catches up and this high pressure wave hits you and it's a boom. And it's kind of annoying if you're just living in an area where you hear booms all the time.

• 54:19David Imel?

I used to live right above an Air Force Base.

• 54:21Speaker 01

  Oh, wow.

• 54:21David Imel?

  Where the...

• 54:22Speaker 04

You lived above the Air Force Base?

• 54:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:25Speaker 01

  Not below?

• 54:25David Imel?

On the mountaintop with the rattlesnake den. We were right above Beale Air Force Base, yes. I heard sonic booms like every day.

Okay, so perfect example. So that's a downside to supersonic planes. The upside is you can go from here to London in two hours or whatever. The downside is people on the ground having to deal with loud booms that may even damage things or like break windows or be really annoying to pets. So, the science is that there is a cutoff speed and altitude where you can fly. And essentially because of refraction, the atmosphere and temperature and a bunch of other factors, the supersonic, the boom actually bounces off the bottom of the clouds or bounces off and back into the air and doesn't reach the ground. The point is it doesn't reach the ground.

• 55:11Speaker 04

  But it depends on temperature.

• 55:12Speaker 01

It depends on temperature and it depends on where you're flying and a bunch of other factors.

• 55:17Speaker 04

  So it's not consistent?

• 55:18Speaker 01

Uh, it's not gonna be perfect every single time.

• 55:21Speaker 04

  That's not great.

• 55:23Speaker 01

The fact is, this exists, this rough area slash speed slash combo exists where you can fly supersonic and not cause a sonic boom on the ground.

• 55:36Speaker 04

I'm just trying to stall as much as I can while Ellis furiously types into Wikipedia.

• 55:40Andrew Manganelli?

Does this mean my flight's gonna get delayed because it could cause a sonic boom if it's too warm?

• 55:45Speaker 01

No. Look, most of these flights are over the ocean, so it's actually not that big of a problem. But if you're doing, you know, here to LA, that's over land, so they've gotta fly in an area and an altitude where ideally it's not an issue. But yeah, the fact that you can do that at all is pretty sick.

• 56:00David Imel?

There's a strong irony to the fact that the company is called Boom and their whole thing is how they're boomless.

• 56:07Speaker 01

  Yeah, boomless.

• 56:09David Imel?

They should just have called themselves Boomless.

• 56:11Speaker 01

I think the sonic boom is famous for like old fighter jet videos on YouTube. You've probably seen them and you've experienced them in real life, but yeah, sonic boom is pretty crazy.

• 56:20David Imel?

  Yeah, they're annoying.

• 56:21Speaker 01

To see, to have a boomless supersonic craft is also great.

• 56:27David Imel?

Before supersonic booms were popular because Chuck Yeager famously broke the sound barrier and stole my childhood.

• 56:35Speaker 01

Um, when he bought my road.

• 56:37Speaker 05

Thank you. I was gonna say, you're gonna have to explain that.

• 56:39Speaker 01

No further questions. Yeah, Chuck Yeager.

• 56:41Andrew Manganelli?

It's just lore at this point.

• 56:42Speaker 01

It's lore, but uh, my dad was living in the area the first time the uh, sound barrier was broken. And he said, everyone called into the like, local news stations because they thought aliens were invading. Because they'd never heard a sonic boom before.

• 56:55Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 56:55Speaker 01

So everyone freaked out. So, yeah.

• 56:58Andrew Manganelli?

That's terrifying if you have no idea what's going on.

• 57:00Speaker 01

You just hear in the sky like. Yeah, it just basically sounds like, yeah. You, we can play a clip of it. You'll, you'll understand.

• 57:07Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 57:07Speaker 01

So, yeah, exciting. I also have no idea if this plane will ever actually be real or if anyone will ever actually ride in one. Oh, there goes the headlines. You can't take the hat off over and over. Uh, yeah, so that's my, that's the update. I know nothing else about this other than the science is pretty sick.

• 57:23Speaker 05

  Boomless.

• 57:23Speaker 01

I'm a fan of not the company, but the science that they keep exposing us all to. Very cool.

• 57:29Speaker 05

  That's what me and works.

• 57:29Speaker 01

  Very cool.

• 57:31Speaker 05

  Uh, just.

• 57:35Speaker 05

This drives me insane. This story has been like, eating me away because there's, they're doing the, the Silicon Valley thing where they're like, we changed everything and we're like, great. And they're like, that's it, period.

• 57:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 57:49Speaker 05

We'll see you next year. And it's like, no, nothing else?

• 57:52Speaker 01

I have a feeling that the way you feel about this company is similar to the way I feel about startup EV companies.

• 57:59Speaker 05

I would, hmm. Here's what I'll, here's what I'll say. The, the, the plane that flew this week and got retired this week is called the XP1. It is their proof of concept aircraft. They said they flew Mach 1.14 at about 35,000 feet. And uh, and there were no audible sonic booms from the ground. And um,

• 58:26Speaker 05

That's great. So now they're going to for continue development on their actual airliner called Overture. In order to do that, they need to develop their own, I think they're going with a low bypass turbo fan engine that they're calling Symphony, that they have to develop themselves because all the major engine manufacturers were like, we can't do that. We don't, um, I don't know, man.

• 58:51David Imel?

  Too busy making 747s.

• 58:54Speaker 05

We will see. I did think it was interesting that they did a lot of this with the XB1 with off the shelf parts. Specifically, the General Electric, I think it's the J85-15 afterburner variant. I don't know. We'll see. I'm, I'm curious. And if you're an aviation engineer and want to talk about the mock cutoff effect and help me understand why you don't need like a 50 foot nose cone to get it, please let me know because I am not an aerospace engineer and confused.

• 59:29Andrew Manganelli?

You did forget one other thing, and it's the new plane they're developing also live translates.

• 59:34David Imel?

I was gonna say, I was literally gonna say, LS, three words, Microsoft live translation.

• 59:40Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 59:41David Imel?

  How do you feel?

• 59:42Speaker 01

Yeah, you're right that, uh, if you read their website, which is like very much me not caring about the product anymore and just reading the science, boomless cruise is what they're calling it. But basically supersonic travel without the boom hitting the ground is possible between certain ranges of speeds depending on conditions.

• 59:59Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 59:59Speaker 01

And so they're saying like, oh yeah, we could get you to LA maybe 90 minutes faster with no boom if the conditions are right. But if we're going over water, we don't care about the boom and we could go Mach 1.5 or something.

• 1:00:11Speaker 05

I think it was in between 1.7 and 2 is what they're shooting for. Is that, am I right about that?

• 1:00:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:00:16Speaker 05

I'm, yeah. I, here's the thing, right? Did you watch the live stream?

• 1:00:21Speaker 01

No, I haven't watched any. Actually, I watched a replay and I scanned through it for like five seconds.

• 1:00:25Speaker 05

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was fine. I just felt like they were doing their best SpaceX impression.

• 1:00:31Speaker 01

  A hundred percent. Yeah.

• 1:00:32Speaker 05

And, uh, and I was just sort of like, is this, you know, whatever. Great.

• 1:00:39Speaker 01

  SpaceX has cool streams.

• 1:00:41Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like the live of that SpaceX caught a rocket. They're flying a plane that doesn't produce the thing that we would see anyways. Well, they had no boom.

• 1:00:52Speaker 01

They had a live speed tracker thing. So, oh, they're supersonic now. That's cool.

• 1:00:58Speaker 05

Counterpoint though, Andrew, the test pilot that works for Boom is named Geppetto. And so during the whole livestream, they were like, I think Geppetto is about to hit the afterburners, which I just thought sounded really, really silly.

• 1:01:10Speaker 01

That's a great sentence. Counterpoint to your counterpoint, I know nothing about aeronautics.

• 1:01:17Speaker 04

  All right.

• 1:01:18Speaker 01

So I can't contribute anything. Hear me out. Faster flights. That would be. You in? You in? Hear me out. Driverless cars. Next year.

• 1:01:28Speaker 05

Wait, hear me out. His name is Tristan. His name is not Geppetto. Geppetto is just a... Geppetto is his nickname. They call him Geppetto. And on the stream, they were like, Geppetto, he's hitting the afterburner. But no, his name is actually Tristan.

• 1:01:40Speaker 04

They also refer to him as Geppetto.

• 1:01:42Speaker 05

No, no, no, no. But I just didn't want, you know, I just didn't want to be like, there's this guy, Geppetto. And meanwhile Tristan's out there like angry.

• 1:01:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Sorry Tristan.

• 1:01:51Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:01:51Andrew Manganelli?

  All right, next headline.

• 1:01:53Speaker 01

  Next headline.

• 1:01:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Oppo Find N5.

• 1:01:55Speaker 01

Ah, do we have it? Oh yeah, should have brought it.

• 1:01:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, well.

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

You can, we can show it if we don't turn the screen on. It makes no difference. I can't.

• 1:02:04Andrew Manganelli?

  No, we can't.

• 1:02:04Speaker 01

Okay, here's, okay, here's the headline. And this is literally the headline, Oppo Find N5 is revealed to be the world's thinnest book style foldable.

• 1:02:17Speaker 01

That's all we, that's all we get. And so I got this email, I got the device, I got someone reaching out from, from Oppo. And so I have the phone and what we are allowed to show slash confirm is that it is in fact very thin. We are not allowed to show the device with the screen on. We are actually only allowed to show either photos that they have provided for us or our own photos. Now, this is a video podcast.

• 1:02:47Andrew Manganelli?

I tried to convince Marquez to put it on video and just say.

• 1:02:52Speaker 01

  Video?

• 1:02:55Speaker 01

I'm with you. I'm with you. I'm erring on the safe side here because 30 pictures every second is just where we're at right now.

• 1:03:02David Imel?

  A lot of pictures.

• 1:03:02Speaker 01

But fine, okay. It is very thin. It's got me pondering a whole bunch more thoughts and feelings about it, but I can't really get into those because all we can really talk about is, wow, very thin.

• 1:03:12Andrew Manganelli?

  It's super thin.

• 1:03:13Speaker 01

The other thing is, if you look at these pictures, there's a slightly modified USB type C port on this thing. That's basically the entire thickness of each side of the book foldable. It's like four and a half millimeters.

• 1:03:25David Imel?

  Counterpoint.

• 1:03:26Speaker 01

Counterpoint. It's full of them today.

• 1:03:29David Imel?

  Microsoft Surface Duo.

• 1:03:31Andrew Manganelli?

It feels super similar to the launch of that.

• 1:03:34David Imel?

The embargo, okay, this is inside baseball. Microsoft Surface Duo.

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

I talked about it in the video.

• 1:03:40David Imel?

  Oh, did you? Okay.

• 1:03:41Speaker 01

  When I reviewed it.

• 1:03:41David Imel?

Famously, a very annoying embargo on this phone.

• 1:03:46Speaker 01

  I think it has.

• 1:03:47David Imel?

Phone, quote unquote, phone. Yeah. Three, yeah, had like three embargoes. We had an embargo where we could show the hardware but not turn the screen on. And then there was a separate embargo where you could actually review the device.

• 1:04:00Andrew Manganelli?

I think it was like a first impressions embargo and then the full review embargo, which I, because I think the second one, you couldn't show photos from it. There's like some small things like that.

• 1:04:10David Imel?

Now, Oppo is obviously on the fifth version of its Find N devices. I seriously doubt that them making it thinner is going to make it as buggy and horrible as the original Surface Duo. So it's probably fine.

• 1:04:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:04:25David Imel?

But it always feels a little bit weird.

• 1:04:27Speaker 01

It is a huge red flag.

• 1:04:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:29David Imel?

When they're like, you can show pictures of the hardware but not talk about anything else.

• 1:04:33Speaker 01

It is designed to create a wave of headlines in one style before a wave of headlines in another style.

• 1:04:39David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:40Speaker 01

The first wave of headlines is this is a very thin phone.

• 1:04:43Andrew Manganelli?

Verge brought up a good point too, that they were very specific in calling it the world's thinnest book style foldable. Because.

• 1:04:51Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:04:51Andrew Manganelli?

While closed, it is still thinner than the Mate XT. While open, each individual segment, the Mate XT is thinner.

• 1:04:58Speaker 01

  The triple fold phone.

• 1:05:00Andrew Manganelli?

  The triple fold phone, sorry.

• 1:05:01Speaker 01

Wow. So the triple fold, each one of those slices is a little thinner, but I will say,

• 1:05:08Speaker 01

it is thin. It is thin.

• 1:05:11David Imel?

  Yay.

• 1:05:12Speaker 01

  Can confirm it is thin.

• 1:05:13David Imel?

We're gonna have the same conversation about the Galaxy S25.

• 1:05:18Speaker 01

  Slim Edge?

• 1:05:20Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:05:20David Imel?

Yeah, when that actually comes out.

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

Yeah, that's a weird thing that's happening this year is like that is happening. There's a rumor of the iPhone 17 Air happening and maybe one or two other like ultra thin phones.

• 1:05:31David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:31Speaker 01

Which is funny because we just finished talking about the Pixel 9A being like finally what we wanted, a thicker phone.

• 1:05:38Speaker 01

  Uh, yeah.

• 1:05:39David Imel?

Assuming all these companies are using the new battery cell technology that allows you to pack more energy in a smaller package, they're probably just making thinner batteries that have the same amount of capacity as existing phones, which is not what we want.

• 1:05:51Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:05:51David Imel?

We want the same size, but with better battery life.

• 1:05:54Speaker 01

Yes. See Oppo Find 13, or see OnePlus 13 review.

• 1:05:58David Imel?

  Exactly.

• 1:05:59Speaker 04

You say that, but when this thin Samsung phone comes out, I bet it's gonna be sick.

• 1:06:04Speaker 01

Here's my question, because I, it sounds like you're optimistic about that phone.

• 1:06:07Speaker 04

  I'm very optimistic.

• 1:06:08Speaker 01

Do you think this is gonna be priced ultra high?

• 1:06:10Speaker 04

  No.

• 1:06:11Speaker 01

  You don't think so?

• 1:06:11Speaker 04

  I don't think so.

• 1:06:12Speaker 01

Because the way they teased it and they were like, this is gonna be an amazing phone. It's the Edge and we're bringing it back. To me, sounds like it's gonna be an $1,100 phone. I think it'll be $1,100.

• 1:06:23Speaker 04

I think it'll be like 900, something like that, because they're not saying it's gonna be like the ultra or something, you know, like it's not like giving you any crazy performance. It's like you're getting this because it's thin.

• 1:06:33Speaker 01

But where do you think, so, but we don't think it's gonna be like a $500 phone.

• 1:06:36Speaker 04

  No, I don't think so.

• 1:06:38Speaker 01

Do we think the iPhone 17 Air is also in that upper echelon?

• 1:06:43Speaker 04

I think. That's what I think. 17 Air will be in the iPhone Plus category.

• 1:06:48Speaker 01

I think it's in the Pro Max.

• 1:06:50Speaker 04

  You think so?

• 1:06:51Speaker 01

I think Apple, the way they operate, this is, they're gonna try to make this the exclusive, interesting one. And so it's gonna be the one with the special battery technology developed to be super thin. It's gonna be the one with, you know, a couple extra, you know, fun cooling bits that they invented to make a phone this thin.

• 1:07:07Speaker 04

I could see it going either way because that's what they, that's the approach they took with the iPad Pro. They made it super thin and they were like, this is the thinnest iPad Pro and it's awesome.

• 1:07:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:16Speaker 04

But I could also see them being like, no, if you want the Pro, get the Pro. Like, this is something else entirely.

• 1:07:21Andrew Manganelli?

Apple specifically, the Air has always been a less powerful. You're making sacrifices on performance to have a thinner.

• 1:07:27Speaker 01

If they call it the Air, yeah.

• 1:07:28Andrew Manganelli?

If they call it the Air, that's.

• 1:07:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:29Speaker 04

  Like the MacBook.

• 1:07:30Andrew Manganelli?

It would be dumb if they didn't call it the Air. They finally, they actually have a good name for it. It's a Pro Max and.

• 1:07:35Speaker 01

Pro Max Slim. 5G UW. No, Air is perfect for this. I think, yeah, Edge also kinda works because it's so thin. You could see it's like an edge, whatever.

• 1:07:45Andrew Manganelli?

I think, what do we think screen size for the Edge is? Like 25 plus?

• 1:07:50Speaker 01

  For Samsung?

• 1:07:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Or like 24?

• 1:07:52Speaker 01

It looked like, so, I mean, I got to check it out. I didn't get the whole other phones up to it, but it looked like S25 plus sized. Yeah. Only dual cameras though, instead of triple cameras.

• 1:08:02Andrew Manganelli?

I think S25 plus price, but with one less, with one less camera and some, uh, performance sacrifices. But the same price because it's thin. That's my guess.

• 1:08:16Speaker 01

  Performance sacrifices.

• 1:08:18Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:18Speaker 01

Cause less cooling. Cause they're, they're probably still gonna have a Snapdragon.

• 1:08:21Andrew Manganelli?

They just have to fit more in a tighter spot. So like, it almost makes me think of like S20 FE kinda thing where it's like, what are some small sacrifices we can make for something else?

• 1:08:34Speaker 01

Yeah. It's like, we're trying to think of other devices that will be close to. I like how the Oppo phone was this boring that we are no.

• 1:08:42Speaker 04

I was just gonna say, let this be a lesson to all future embargo creators that this is why these embargoes are stupid. Because we just spent this whole section talking about a different.

• 1:08:52Speaker 01

I mean, they got their headline. They got their headline on a bunch of websites. It's the thinnest bookstall, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, it'll come out later this year. But the thinness thing is what we're like focusing on. Like, do people want a super thin phone? Which leads us down the road of, yeah, there's other super thin phones coming out this year, we think. Do people want them? And how bad do they want them? Would they pay 900 bucks for it? I would like to see the thinnest Book's style foldable.

• 1:09:16Andrew Manganelli?

That's what I thought when he said that before.

• 1:09:18Speaker 01

That would be better. Book style is this. Yeah. This is.

• 1:09:21Andrew Manganelli?

  He means the clamshell.

• 1:09:22Speaker 01

  Yeah, the Book's. Yeah.

• 1:09:24Speaker 04

I'm picturing like the iPhone 17 Air, if it's as thin as the Edge, right? Well, does it still have MagSafe? So then you can like slap a magnet. I mean, like a wallet on there.

• 1:09:35Speaker 01

Or at least it's a phone that doesn't have MagSafe going.

• 1:09:36Speaker 04

  Right, so then it's.

• 1:09:37Speaker 01

  SE?

• 1:09:38Speaker 04

It's as thick as a regular phone, but like, you know, I feel like that's the benefit. And you put it in a case and now it's the same size as a regular phone.

• 1:09:46Andrew Manganelli?

  That's what I think.

• 1:09:46Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:09:47Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, in a case is now the same size as a phone without a case.

• 1:09:50Speaker 01

They gotta launch this phone with like a super thin case or something. Cause it's gonna be really funny when people go wait in line for this phone. This super, super thin phone that they've made sacrifices for and paid a bunch of money for. And then immediately put a case on it and it's just another normal sized phone. Otterbox. With worse battery. I'm just saying. Otterbox on it, dude, wow. Otterbox is gonna make a case for this phone too. It's gonna be really funny.

• 1:10:11Speaker 04

I'm just staying optimistic because I think these super thin devices are actually gonna be pretty cool.

• 1:10:16Speaker 01

  Why?

• 1:10:17Speaker 04

Because I think we haven't explored that before.

• 1:10:21Speaker 01

Well, we've explored that to failure before, where like phones were bad. Like the Razr back in the original, remember the, the, there was these two Razrs that Motorola made. The original Razr? Disgustingly thin, no, um, Motorola, is it? Oh, the Razr Edge. The Razr, is that what it was called? They had those two modular phones with the pins on the back. Yeah. And they were the thinnest phones I've ever seen. And terrible battery life, like not a lot of great things about those phones.

• 1:10:49Speaker 04

Well, that's the thing, if they suck, then, then none of this matters. But if it's like a decent phone.

• 1:10:53Speaker 01

It feels like this is maybe the first time that the compute is mature enough to give us razor thin phones that don't suck.

• 1:11:02Speaker 04

I'm just curious to see whether something like the Pixel 9A going with a bigger battery and slightly thicker is how that's gonna hold up. Overall with like, in the headspace of people compared to something that's dropping, that's gonna be super thin.

• 1:11:16Speaker 01

  Yeah. Dropping? I think, uh.

• 1:11:18Speaker 04

  Don't drop it.

• 1:11:18Speaker 01

I think it's all gonna be price related. I think that A phone is gonna come out, it's gonna be 500 bucks and it's gonna have an all day battery. And everyone's gonna be like, yes, that's good. Yeah. And then this premium phone is gonna come out that's super thin, that has a worse battery and all the headlines are gonna be.

• 1:11:33David Imel?

  No.

• 1:11:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:34David Imel?

  This bad.

• 1:11:34Speaker 01

Well, I like the two different directions we're going in, though. Like, I'm curious to see what happens.

• 1:11:38Andrew Manganelli?

I'm realizing some of these directions semi lead to this last headline in this hack.

• 1:11:42David Imel?

  Really?

• 1:11:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Save the best for last.

• 1:11:43David Imel?

  Is this a segue unintentionally?

• 1:11:45Andrew Manganelli?

Hmm, not really. I just wanted to talk about the next thing.

• 1:11:49David Imel?

iPhone SE 4 has leaked a lot.

• 1:11:53Speaker 01

Nice. Yeah, there's rumors about this one, too. iPhone.

• 1:11:57Andrew Manganelli?

There's more than rumors about this one, yeah.

• 1:12:00David Imel?

So, oh, there's still the possibility. Mark Gurman originally said that it was gonna come out this week. We record on Wednesdays. If we don't-

• 1:12:09Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, he said this morning it's next week now.

• 1:12:14David Imel?

There's still the possibility. Mark Gurman said this morning it was gonna come out next week. Okay, I hope it's by Wednesday. Anyway, uh, this phone has leaked in full many times over in very funny ways. Uh, Spigen, I don't know if that's how you pronounce the company's name.

• 1:12:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:31David Imel?

But they're a case company. They accidentally leaked the entire design by putting the case for it up for sale temporarily, which had photos of the phone in it. So we basically know exactly what it looks like, assuming that wasn't just a placeholder that Spigen put online. Uh, but effectively, this is the most Frankenstein-looking iPhone I think we've ever seen.

• 1:12:54Speaker 01

  Yeah, interesting.

• 1:12:55David Imel?

It uses a ton of parts from a ton of different generations of phone.

• 1:12:58Speaker 01

That's the first thing that struck me, is typically the iPhone SE has been, and this isn't even that bad of a thing, it's just what lets them make it so cheap, but it's been a parts bin phone.

• 1:13:07David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:13:07Speaker 01

Meaning, we put this really, really fast chip from this year's phone in this body from this older iPhone.

• 1:13:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:14Speaker 01

And we're like, oh, yeah, now it's cheaper, great. And that means it has a worse screen and a worse battery and a single camera, but it's like, it's a cheaper iPhone, so it's successful and it's fine. And this one looks like it's not actually a previous body.

• 1:13:25David Imel?

Well, in some ways, it's using a bunch of parts from older phones. Uh, like, it has a notch, so there's no dynamic island. Uh, nestled in an OLED display, so it's kind of like an iPhone 13-

• 1:13:36Speaker 01

  An OLED.

• 1:13:37David Imel?

  -kind of situation.

• 1:13:38Speaker 01

  The 13 have OLED?

• 1:13:39David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:40Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:13:40David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:41Speaker 01

Or the Pro. Or did they all have-

• 1:13:43David Imel?

  They all had OLED.

• 1:13:44Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 1:13:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:45Andrew Manganelli?

Is this not, I can't tell the sides of it. It feels like a XR.

• 1:13:50David Imel?

  I think it's square.

• 1:13:51Andrew Manganelli?

  Is it square?

• 1:13:52David Imel?

  Yeah, because XR was rounded.

• 1:13:53Andrew Manganelli?

It was rounded. But it was single, oh yeah, that does look like a flat.

• 1:13:57David Imel?

It's like, it's similar to an iPhone 12 body. The back kind of looks like a, a XR.

• 1:14:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Cause it's singular camera.

• 1:14:05David Imel?

Singular camera and it has sort of that sheen of like the XR color.

• 1:14:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:14:10David Imel?

Uh, it has an action button.

• 1:14:12Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, I didn't notice that.

• 1:14:14David Imel?

Yeah, so it's like updated to have the action button.

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

These are also all alleged, like the Pixel 9A.

• 1:14:19David Imel?

Yeah, yes. Uh, it's got the 48 megapixel rear camera. And it has a much bigger 3,279 milliampere battery over the 2,000 milliampere battery of the iPhone SE 3.

• 1:14:32Speaker 01

  That's huge.

• 1:14:33David Imel?

Apple A18 chipset and 8 gigabytes of RAM, which suggests they are going to add Apple Intelligence. Uh, yeah, so there was also a 10 second hands-on video from this leaker that was posted on X a couple of weeks ago that shows it from basically all angles.

• 1:14:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, okay, yeah, this changes.

• 1:14:51David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:51Andrew Manganelli?

  What it looks like.

• 1:14:52David Imel?

So, yeah, it kinda looks like an iPhone 12 mixed with a bunch of extra parts.

• 1:15:00Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:00Andrew Manganelli?

It looks nice. Oh man, we haven't seen the notch in so long.

• 1:15:04David Imel?

  Yeah, I know.

• 1:15:05Speaker 01

Also, remember the, the iPhone SE was 399 and then it was 429? Right? The newest SE, well, at least at launch, was a little bit more expensive.

• 1:15:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Sorry.

• 1:15:17Speaker 01

I'm curious if the new, new SE, when it finally does come out, will still be? Cause it's now more RAM and maybe it's a little bit less parts benny, maybe it's more expensive?

• 1:15:26David Imel?

They might do, so yeah, it's 429, the iPhone SE 3 is 429.

• 1:15:31Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:15:31David Imel?

They might do 499, cause that's what Google is selling the Pixel 9A series at anyway.

• 1:15:37Speaker 01

  Popular price.

• 1:15:38David Imel?

Yeah, $500 seems like a popular price. I could see Apple doing $500 for that. Um, just because it's using, and it's apparently gonna have an OLED screen instead of that LCD one that they had on the.

• 1:15:48Speaker 01

Oh, but it's probably gonna be 60 Hz.

• 1:15:50David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:15:51Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:15:52Andrew Manganelli?

It's Apple, of course it's gonna be 60 Hz.

• 1:15:57David Imel?

iPhone 16 is still 60 Hz.

• 1:15:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, dang it, okay.

• 1:15:59Andrew Manganelli?

  That would be wild.

• 1:16:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:00Speaker 01

  That'd be, yeah.

• 1:16:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Promotion of the SE.

• 1:16:03David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:03Speaker 01

Okay, yeah, well, I mean, we're expecting that to be pretty soon. Again, by the time you hear this, maybe we know more, maybe not, who knows? Um, yeah, another alleged phone.

• 1:16:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

  Rumor mill, it's happening.

• 1:16:15David Imel?

Very fun. I think that the Rivian's gonna be a color. Anyway.

• 1:16:20Speaker 04

Somehow the Rivian did the best teasing out of all of this.

• 1:16:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:16:23Speaker 04

  Good job, Rivian.

• 1:16:24Speaker 01

• 1:16:36Speaker 04

Sorry, sorry. One second. Thank you.

• 1:16:40Speaker 01

But if you're not, we're about to do trivia.

• 1:16:47Speaker 04

  Trivia, dude. So, second question.

• 1:16:51Speaker 01

  Please do something I know.

• 1:16:52Speaker 04

In honor of Ellis being back on the pod, another Ellis-style question. Which of these is not a real streaming service? A, Phoebe.

• 1:17:05Speaker 04

  B, Acorn TV. C, Mubi. M U I, M U B I.

• 1:17:13Speaker 01

  Muji?

• 1:17:14Speaker 04

  D, Fubo. E, Tubi.

• 1:17:19Speaker 01

Okay, I have a logical answer. E, in a clo.

• 1:17:22Speaker 04

  The Chick-fil-A streaming network.

• 1:17:25Speaker 01

My logic for this is you know how like every deity like ends in like an ah sound? Like ah, like God or Allah or something like that? All of these services end in E except for one. So I'm going with the one that doesn't end in E.

• 1:17:36Speaker 04

Also, doesn't God not end in ah?

• 1:17:38Speaker 01

  The ah vowel sound.

• 1:17:40Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:17:40Speaker 01

And I'm just going, oh, one of them doesn't have E at the end, so.

• 1:17:44Speaker 04

  Phoebe, Mubi, Fubo, Tubi.

• 1:17:47Speaker 01

Yeah, the one that's not E. Yeah, that's my answer. Acorns.

• 1:17:51Speaker 04

  Acorn TV.

• 1:17:52Speaker 01

We will think about this one, answer at the end like usual. We'll be right back.

• 1:18:09Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all All of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub and more. So nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping.

Welcome back. So today is February 12th, a Wednesday, the day of recording. You guys are listening to this on February 14th, dear listener, which is Valentine's Day. So in honor of Valentine's Day, I thought it'd be fun to play a little game called Tech That Ghosted Us. So the way this is going to work is we're going to go around and we're going to each talk about a tech that is either discontinued or that went out of business that we miss, that it just disappeared.

• 1:20:23David Imel?

  I got ghosted once.

• 1:20:24Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:20:25David Imel?

  Long time ago.

• 1:20:26Speaker 04

Yeah, we listen and we do not judge. Who wants to go first?

• 1:20:29Speaker 01

  I can, I can go.

• 1:20:31Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:20:32David Imel?

I'm still waiting for that text back.

• 1:20:35Speaker 01

  The year was 2020.

• 1:20:39Speaker 01

For every Frisbee team I've ever played on and just among my group of friends, I'm usually the one that knows the most about the weather.

• 1:20:47Speaker 04

  That tracks.

• 1:20:48Speaker 01

  But in 2020.

• 1:20:50Speaker 04

  That tracks.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

  Apple bought Dark Sky.

• 1:20:55Speaker 01

And they bought Dark Sky to buy all of the technology and the realtime sourcing and whatever. And so they immediately removed the app from the Android App Store. And they shut down the iOS app shortly thereafter. And they brought some of those features into their own weather app, but my life just hasn't been the same since I was ghosted by Dark Sky. That was, I really miss Dark Sky.

• 1:21:21Andrew Manganelli?

What are you using? You're using that, uh?

• 1:21:23Speaker 01

So I use Carrot Weather right now. And it's the closest we've come. They even have literally a Dark Sky clone layout option. For those of us who aren't over.

• 1:21:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Really?

• 1:21:33Speaker 01

I mean, um, over Dark Sky. And on Android, there's not really anything close. I've gotten some use out of, what is it called? Shadow Weather is okay, but there's another one that's.

• 1:21:45Andrew Manganelli?

I do not have a weather app that I enjoy yet. And I got tired of looking.

• 1:21:50Speaker 01

There's honestly not, they're kind of not all, they're all not good.

• 1:21:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, it's a shame.

• 1:21:55Speaker 01

Some of them are aesthetically pleasing, but don't, overdrop I think is aesthetically pleasing, but isn't the best like accuracy. So, yeah. So, yeah, that's, that's definitely my, uh.

• 1:22:06Andrew Manganelli?

  That's your one?

• 1:22:07Speaker 01

My one that I thought of.

• 1:22:08Andrew Manganelli?

I have one that I just kind of thought about the other day because with PowerBeats Pro being $250, we were trying to find some other comparable, uh, active headphones, like workout based headphones.

• 1:22:25Andrew Manganelli?

And I was having a hard time finding some. So I remembered an old favorite of this channel, Jaybird, and tried to look up Jaybird headphones. And realized they are, just don't seem to be a thing anymore. And I missed that completely. I thought they got bought by Logitech.

• 1:22:39Speaker 01

  Same.

• 1:22:39Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, they did. And then Logitech just said, later.

• 1:22:43Speaker 01

Jaybird headphones used to be like the workout headphones.

• 1:22:45Andrew Manganelli?

I loved them. Like some of those old ones, Marquez brought me onto them. I remember before I started working here and I was playing Ultimate with Marquez, he was always testing like new Jaybird headphones.

• 1:22:55Speaker 01

Without looking it up, how much do you think Logitech bought Jaybird for?

• 1:23:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Less than a billion.

• 1:23:02Speaker 01

  Correct.

• 1:23:03Andrew Manganelli?

  Can we ask a year?

• 1:23:05Speaker 01

  This was, yeah, you can.

• 1:23:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Nineteen?

• 1:23:08Speaker 01

  Twenty sixteen.

• 1:23:09Andrew Manganelli?

Sixteen? Well, that was that long ago.

• 1:23:12Speaker 01

  Twenty million?

• 1:23:14Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I'm gonna go like, under a hundred million. I'll go fifty.

• 1:23:18Speaker 01

  Fifty million.

• 1:23:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah?

• 1:23:20Speaker 01

  Yeah. Good guess.

• 1:23:21David Imel?

  Very nice.

• 1:23:22Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I thought that was a nice discount.

• 1:23:25Andrew Manganelli?

  It sounds good, yeah.

• 1:23:27David Imel?

And then they just got rid of them?

• 1:23:28Speaker 01

  Yeah, to not do anything.

• 1:23:30Andrew Manganelli?

Why do you come? When did they stop doing that?

• 1:23:32Speaker 01

Yeah, I, I think it was several years later that they stopped making them, but I remember like the Jaybird X4 is not that, no, I guess it was kinda long ago. Being pretty great. They kind of fizzled out right before like the truly wireless earbuds started happening. Like they would be the earbuds that were connected via cable, so you'd have wireless earbuds but still have a cable between them. And then right as we started getting truly wireless earbuds everywhere, Jaybird disappeared.

• 1:23:54Andrew Manganelli?

Wow, they did the Jaybird Vistas, which I loved. I used those for so long. Like they started in, they like got into the truly wireless category. And then I loved them. They had some cool colors. They were like, great, they fit my ears good, little wingtips, but like, I loved those things. And it seems like they were kind of the end of the line for them.

• 1:24:13David Imel?

Dang. What was the really popular one that had the, they were connected with the cable?

• 1:24:17Speaker 01

That was X4. The X1234, yeah.

• 1:24:20David Imel?

Yeah, I think it had the X2.

• 1:24:22Andrew Manganelli?

So you had Jaybirds on my, it, it literally felt like ghosting because I tried to find them and realized I just haven't looked for that long. And it's been a few years and they're just gone.

• 1:24:31David Imel?

Yeah. Do you guys remember Quibi? That's not mine, that's not mine. I'm glad that's dead.

• 1:24:40David Imel?

Damn. Okay, so there was a service called Scroll. I don't remember, I don't know if you remember this?

• 1:24:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, the Ethereum wrapper.

• 1:24:48David Imel?

Yeah, clearly. Uh, it got bought by Twitter. So what it was, was basically this, it was a subscription, it was a ad free.

• 1:24:58Andrew Manganelli?

  I forgot about that.

• 1:24:59David Imel?

Yeah, it was awesome. It was an ad-free subscription service, service, where you would pay five dollars a month and basically news organizations that signed on.

• 1:25:13David Imel?

Would give you an ad free experience. And it basically, basically distributed the subscription revenue to all the news organizations that would sign on to it.

• 1:25:25Speaker 05

  Isn't that just Apple News?

• 1:25:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Also, yes.

• 1:25:29David Imel?

Sort of, but they had a lot more publishers. Like, all the Vox brands were on it. Android Police was on it for some reason. It was very cool. I really liked it. I liked being able to like, support the brands that I liked. Twitter bought it. I believe it got integrated into Twitter Blue temporarily. Before Twitter got purchased. It was great, and I really liked it. And there were a lot of questions about the scalability of it, obviously, because they were like, well, does one user who pays $5 a month, if there is a bazillion news organizations now on the service and they're all getting like, three cents from a user, is that better than the ads that they would see?

• 1:26:14David Imel?

There were a lot of questions that were left unanswered, but for the period of time that it was around, I really enjoyed it.

• 1:26:19Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like this is what people wanted when it came to skiing, is like, you want to ski at a bunch of different mountains? How can I buy like, a season pass to go to a bunch of them? And then what happened was, Vale just bought every single mountain. And you can do that, but now they have like, total control over like, they own an absurd amount of like, the skiing mountains in the US.

• 1:26:38David Imel?

Huh, I did not know that.

• 1:26:40Andrew Manganelli?

It's a huge point of contention, I think, in the skiing world, but...

• 1:26:45David Imel?

It's sort of like ClassPass, too. Do you know ClassPass?

• 1:26:47Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:26:48David Imel?

ClassPass is a service where you pay like, a monthly fee, and then you can go to a bunch of different fitness classes, from a ton of different types of fitness classes. And you use credits that you get through ClassPass, and ClassPass pays the gyms to be able to let you use them.

• 1:27:06Andrew Manganelli?

  That's kind of cool.

• 1:27:07David Imel?

So it's kind of interesting, yeah.

• 1:27:08Speaker 01

  Like a Tesla Supercharger network.

• 1:27:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Ellis, you got one?

• 1:27:15Speaker 05

Back in the day, there was this product that I loved so dearly, my whole family actually loved it just as dearly as I did. It was sold at an unlikely place. Do you guys remember the store that was mostly in malls and airports called Brookstone?

• 1:27:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:38Speaker 05

Brookstone was after Sharper Image. Yes. Brookstone sold almost exclusively garbage. Yeah. It was like the airplane magazine stuff. Exactly. Physical store.

• 1:27:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:27:53Speaker 05

And like a weird amount of massage chairs. That's I googled every mall.

• 1:27:58Speaker 01

  First thing that came up.

• 1:27:59Speaker 05

Yeah, like you'd be at the airport and you'd be like, I really want to ship this massage chair. I don't know. But they did make one thing that was amazing. It was called the Brookstone Weather Cast. It was an unbelievably simple piece of tech. It was an LCD screen, like a black and white calculator style liquid crystal display that connected either via 3G or radio frequency or something for free to this network and it would just pull AccuWeather forecasts and you'd stick it on your fridge and it would have a five day forecast. And you cannot buy anything, anything that does this, except for one thing, and I'm going to get there before anyone says anything. But any single time you look up weather clock,

• 1:28:42Speaker 05

you get the weather stations where you put a thing on your like roof and it'll be like, this is what the temperature. I don't want to know that. You don't want your own weather station? I want to know how hot and how cold it's going to be today, damn it. And I and and and no one make, I mean, yes, I could look at my phone, but I like the ability to walk into my kitchen in the morning and just see while I'm drinking my coffee. This is pretty awesome. It's amazing. And literally my mom, it was like my mom's favorite tech product of all time. And every year for Christmas and her birthday, I look around and I cannot find a single thing like this that exists until this year. Yeah. A company called Terminal built sort of like an open source Wi-Fi version of this.

• 1:29:24Speaker 05

And I bought one for my mom and it still hasn't arrived yet. And I need to reach out to them to figure out where it is. But once it gets there, I'll let you know if it's the real deal. Terminal has no vowels because it's a tech startup. Nice. It's terminal.

• 1:29:38Andrew Manganelli?

  You're not getting that?

• 1:29:40Speaker 04

The amount of vowels is how likely you get it. You're at zero.

• 1:29:43Speaker 05

But I'm excited for this. I'm excited that this product after like a 10 year hiatus has still has come back and

• 1:29:52Speaker 05

yeah, Brookstone Weathercast, incredible product. No notes.

• 1:29:56David Imel?

Yeah, I've seen this terminal thing.

• 1:29:58Speaker 05

Yes, Quinn got one, Snazzy Labs. And he loves it.

• 1:30:02David Imel?

  He said it was cool.

• 1:30:04Speaker 05

I'm really excited about it, but I can't get too excited about it until it's actually in my mom's hands, which it's not yet. Anyway, that's my thing. Brookstone Weathercast. Bet none of you remember that.

• 1:30:14Speaker 04

I have a question. Why not just use a Google Home or something?

• 1:30:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Home Hub.

• 1:30:20Speaker 05

  I don't want that.

• 1:30:22Speaker 04

  That's fair.

• 1:30:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Fair enough.

• 1:30:23Speaker 05

  Yeah, I don't want.

• 1:30:24David Imel?

That's what I got my parents.

• 1:30:25Speaker 05

I mean, there's, look, if you got a Google Home, that's great. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't want a computer. I just want a little.

• 1:30:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Computer?

• 1:30:34Speaker 05

  No.

• 1:30:38Speaker 05

This, the Brookstone Weathercast will never, ever show you an ad.

• 1:30:43Speaker 04

It would if it was alive today.

• 1:30:46Speaker 05

And you cannot say that with confidence about the Google Home. You'll never get home from work and be like, oh, what a day. And then you're, and then you look at your Google Home and it'll just be like, Bluetooth.

• 1:30:58David Imel?

I don't think my Google Home's ever shown me an ad.

• 1:31:01Speaker 04

And I can't say with confidence, it will eventually.

• 1:31:04David Imel?

  That's fair.

• 1:31:05Andrew Manganelli?

  That's true.

• 1:31:06Speaker 04

Okay, mine, speaking of Google, that I have been ghosted on is. What?

• 1:31:12David Imel?

  ALO?

• 1:31:13Speaker 04

Oh, no. Oh, David, why? Oh, I'm changing mine. I'm changing.

• 1:31:18David Imel?

  ALO?

• 1:31:18Speaker 04

Google ALO. No, mine was a, damn, that's a good one.

• 1:31:22David Imel?

  Inbox as well.

• 1:31:24Speaker 04

Oh, my God. I hate you for this.

• 1:31:27David Imel?

Sorry, Google could just be a whole.

• 1:31:29Speaker 04

I was gonna say Google Stadia, but I kinda wanna change it to either one of those.

• 1:31:33David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:31:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, Stadia?

• 1:31:35Speaker 04

Stadia. I loved Stadia. I remember when it came out.

• 1:31:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:31:38Speaker 04

I was so excited. The controller was perfect.

• 1:31:41David Imel?

  It was good.

• 1:31:42Speaker 04

And I regret getting rid of it after they shut down because now it's just a Bluetooth controller you can use for like anything. And I, I got rid of it because I was like, ah, what am I gonna need this for now? And I should have kept it.

• 1:31:52Andrew Manganelli?

I would argue Stadia broke up with everyone. They didn't just straight ghost.

• 1:31:57David Imel?

Yeah, they refunded everybody for every game they ever bought.

• 1:32:01Speaker 04

Yeah, but I'm in denial still. So is that not ghosting?

• 1:32:04David Imel?

That's like if your partner gives you back all your stuff.

• 1:32:07Speaker 04

They broke up and brought all your stuff back.

• 1:32:09David Imel?

And paid you back for all the dinners you paid for.

• 1:32:13Speaker 04

  That's tough.

• 1:32:14Speaker 01

That's, that would be pretty sick.

• 1:32:15Speaker 04

I do, yeah. I miss it because I think they were a little too early to this whole cloud streaming thing. I mean, I don't know, because Microsoft Xcloud is still just like doing a thing, right?

• 1:32:25Speaker 01

  Xcloud?

• 1:32:25Speaker 04

Is that what it's called? Xcloud, Microsoft-like streaming service?

• 1:32:28Speaker 01

  Xbox.

• 1:32:29Speaker 04

Xbox Live? Xbox Cloud? Yeah, so whatever.

• 1:32:32Speaker 01

  No, it's...

• 1:32:34Speaker 04

  Alice uses it.

• 1:32:35David Imel?

  It's called something different.

• 1:32:36Speaker 04

  Well, whatever that is.

• 1:32:38Speaker 05

  It's called Xbox Cloud Gaming.

• 1:32:40David Imel?

  No.

• 1:32:41Speaker 04

And it's, and it's still a thing. So like, Google could have done it and they just like...

• 1:32:44Speaker 01

  Xbox Cloud Gaming Beta.

• 1:32:47Speaker 04

  Beta.

• 1:32:47Speaker 01

  I thought it was called...

• 1:32:48Speaker 04

It's always gonna be a beta.

• 1:32:49David Imel?

  What?

• 1:32:49Speaker 01

There is a lot of Google things like that that were a little ahead of their time.

• 1:32:54David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:32:55Speaker 01

But, you know, that reminded me of Google Plus, also a little ahead of their time. Inbox that you mentioned.

• 1:33:00David Imel?

  Inbox.

• 1:33:00Speaker 01

Also a little ahead of its time.

• 1:33:01David Imel?

  So good.

• 1:33:02Speaker 01

The one that I just thought of, though, that wasn't necessarily ahead of its time, it's just not, it doesn't, I don't think it works anymore, and it just died, is Google Reader.

• 1:33:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:10Speaker 01

Google Reader, I used to use that every single day to like follow all the sites that I read.

• 1:33:15David Imel?

There's a bunch of other, uh...

• 1:33:19Speaker 01

  RSS readers?

• 1:33:19David Imel?

  RSS readers.

• 1:33:20Speaker 04

Yeah, I talked about them last week.

• 1:33:21Speaker 01

I switched to Feedly and I like tried a couple others and even Flipboard had some stuff, but I just never quite got back into it after Reader died.

• 1:33:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:33:28Speaker 01

  Yeah. Yeah, I got ghosted.

• 1:33:33Speaker 04

  Didn't we all?

• 1:33:33Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:33:35David Imel?

Did they get rid of Reader?

• 1:33:37Speaker 04

Yeah, I just Googled it instead.

• 1:33:38David Imel?

  But they still have Blogger.

• 1:33:39Speaker 04

It's from Google. I think it's an 80% chance if you ask if they got rid of it. It's true.

• 1:33:44David Imel?

  That's true.

• 1:33:46Speaker 04

Well, now that we're all sad about things we don't have anymore. Maybe we should have started with this. My old friend.

• 1:33:53Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:33:54Speaker 04

  Time for trivia?

• 1:33:55Speaker 01

  What better time?

• 1:33:56Speaker 04

Time to be sad that we get none of the trivia, right?

• 1:33:58David Imel?

Yeah, I'm not getting either of these.

• 1:34:02Speaker 05

  Trivia.

• 1:34:03David Imel?

  Dude.

• 1:34:04Speaker 05

But first, I just wanted to say, as a follower of sports YouTube, one of the most talented creators in that space, Kofi, just left Vox slash.

• 1:34:14David Imel?

  Tubi?

• 1:34:15Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 1:34:18Speaker 05

He just left Vox slash Secret Base.

• 1:34:21David Imel?

Oh, I saw that this morning.

• 1:34:22Speaker 05

He said he got laid off. Very sad. But you should go check out his channel and support him in his solo venture, because if you even remotely like sports, you will like that content.

• 1:34:30Andrew Manganelli?

Can you, to help? I was gonna say so. Can you spell his name?

• 1:34:34Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 1:34:34Andrew Manganelli?

Because I'm trying to find it right now.

• 1:34:35Speaker 05

I probably should have done that first. His name is spelled K O F I E. Kofi. You've almost definitely seen him in a Secret Base video or something in the past, but talks about video games, talks about sports, talks about things that... He's one of those YouTubers where even if you don't like sports, there's something for you. You know, like, like me and Bug YouTube. Like, I don't like bugs.

• 1:34:58Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, did you see Ants Canada connected all of his?

• 1:35:01Speaker 05

  Of course.

• 1:35:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:35:03Speaker 05

  You have like-

• 1:35:03Andrew Manganelli?

I haven't seen it yet, but tell me about it later. I want to hear what happened.

• 1:35:06Speaker 05

I have notifications on for Ants Canada.

• 1:35:10Speaker 05

I need to know. I also just want to say, now I'm just riffing here, but he, whenever he builds a new, like, terrarium aquarium, he, like, has this community panel, community channel vote thing to, like, decide the name. And I wanted so bad for him to name it The Splash Zone, because it's an aquarium. But alas, The Splash Zone did not make it. Anyway, question number one. I have four tech company. I don't want to say startup, because last time I was with startup, people got mad. But I have four tech companies in front of me. Adam, hit that music. A, Skio, sell subscriptions without ripping your hair out. B, Froot, F R

• 1:35:55Speaker 05

O O T, swift conversion, automate legacy migration, ship faster. C, Keak, K E A K, we're automating conversion, excuse me, we're automating conversion rate optimization. Jesus. D, Koho, giving Canadians the tools and knowledge to make their money grow. Also, Skio is spelled S K I O. Skio.

• 1:36:21David Imel?

We all have a 25% chance of getting this right.

• 1:36:24Speaker 05

Why? Because you all know one of them's real?

• 1:36:26David Imel?

  No.

• 1:36:27Speaker 05

Oh, and which one is fake? That's the three of them are real, one of them is fake. Wait, how did you arrive at 25%?

• 1:36:33David Imel?

  Because there was four answers.

• 1:36:34Andrew Manganelli?

I was just guessing. Shot in the dark.

• 1:36:36David Imel?

  And we're guessing.

• 1:36:40Speaker 05

  Don't cut it.

• 1:36:43Speaker 05

  Let it hang.

• 1:36:46David Imel?

You made me think for a second. I was like, I think that works. Tried to.

• 1:36:51Speaker 05

I would have been thinking for a lot longer than a second if you guys weren't here. Anyway, flip, yeah, flip those boards.

• 1:36:57Speaker 01

How did you arrive at 25%?

• 1:37:00Speaker 05

All right. Who would like to read their answer?

• 1:37:03Andrew Manganelli?

Marquez and I wrote the same thing.

• 1:37:05Speaker 05

  Which is?

• 1:37:05David Imel?

  A.

• 1:37:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Skio.

• 1:37:07Speaker 05

A, Skio is incorrect. Skio is a real company.

• 1:37:12Andrew Manganelli?

It's a really boring Twitter bio.

• 1:37:14Speaker 05

  It is.

• 1:37:15Andrew Manganelli?

  It feels very made up.

• 1:37:16Speaker 05

David put B, and before I tell you if you're right or wrong, David, can you take me through your thought process? What made you arrive at B?

• 1:37:24Andrew Manganelli?

  What was B?

• 1:37:25David Imel?

  It sounded the most fake.

• 1:37:27Speaker 05

Well, yeah, which one was B?

• 1:37:28David Imel?

  I don't know.

• 1:37:30David Imel?

I really don't know. It was like automate something.

• 1:37:33Speaker 05

  That was C?

• 1:37:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:34Speaker 05

  But David, you are correct.

• 1:37:37David Imel?

  Let's go.

• 1:37:38Speaker 05

  I made up fruit.

• 1:37:40David Imel?

  Oh, fruit, right.

• 1:37:41Speaker 05

  Yeah, I was trying to.

• 1:37:42David Imel?

Because I thought it sounded too much like looped that early Sam Altman company.

• 1:37:46Speaker 05

We don't talk about that here.

• 1:37:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:48Speaker 05

  Also, he had his looped.

• 1:37:49David Imel?

That's where he had the dual collar at WWDC.

• 1:37:52Speaker 05

  Exactly.

• 1:37:52David Imel?

With the pink and the, it was the fruit of the loom kinda.

• 1:37:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, that was.

• 1:37:56Speaker 01

  Sam Altman.

• 1:37:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:57Speaker 05

  That was Sam Altman.

• 1:37:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:37:59Speaker 05

Anyway, congrats on your point, David.

• 1:38:01David Imel?

  Thank you.

• 1:38:02Speaker 05

I'm now gonna turn it over to my co-host.

• 1:38:03Andrew Manganelli?

He was really running away with this.

• 1:38:04David Imel?

I'm really running away with this. Getting out of hand.

• 1:38:06Andrew Manganelli?

Is he more than Marquez and I combined?

• 1:38:07Speaker 05

We're about to find out. Quick update on the score. Marquez with five. Not only is he more than you and Marquez combined, but Andrew, we could double your score and it's still more than you guys combined.

• 1:38:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Whoa. Andrew with two.

• 1:38:25Andrew Manganelli?

And after that point, David, running away with it with nine, but it's okay, because none of the points matter when we get to trivia.

• 1:38:33Speaker 01

Dude, this is insane. This is a heater.

• 1:38:35Speaker 05

Yeah, I've lost every trivia extravaganza.

• 1:38:38Speaker 01

  Not this season.

• 1:38:39Speaker 04

All right, question number two. Which one of the following is not a streaming service? A, Phoebe, F-I-B-I. B, Acorn TV. C, Mubi, M-U-B-I. D, Fubo, F-U-B-O. Or E, Tubi, T-U-B-I.

• 1:39:03Andrew Manganelli?

This is so hard because we joke about these. I just make them up so often that I don't know which ones are real anymore.

• 1:39:09Speaker 04

  Yep, exactly.

• 1:39:09Speaker 01

I already forgot all of them.

• 1:39:12Speaker 04

All right, flip them and read. What do you got?

• 1:39:15Andrew Manganelli?

David and I have the same one.

• 1:39:16Speaker 04

  Which is?

• 1:39:17Speaker 01

  Phoebe.

• 1:39:18Speaker 04

  Phoebe?

• 1:39:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:39:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:39:20Speaker 04

  Correct.

• 1:39:21Andrew Manganelli?

  I almost.

• 1:39:22Speaker 04

  Marquez, what'd you put?

• 1:39:24Speaker 01

  He put Acorn.

• 1:39:26Andrew Manganelli?

I put C, which is Mubi.

• 1:39:28Speaker 01

Mubi. Mubi is like a, it's like a Criterion Collection competitor.

• 1:39:32Speaker 04

  What?

• 1:39:33Speaker 01

No, it's. Don't know what any of that means.

• 1:39:35Speaker 05

They're sort of like trying to split the difference between being an actual film distro company and being a streaming service.

• 1:39:41Speaker 01

  So like. Yeah.

• 1:39:42Speaker 05

  Grand Theft Hamlet is distributed.

• 1:39:44Speaker 01

  A Mubi production.

• 1:39:45Speaker 05

And you'll be able to stream it there. I don't know.

• 1:39:49Speaker 01

  And Phoebe makes?

• 1:39:51Speaker 05

Phoebe makes Tubo, which is the broadcast arm of Grubhub.

• 1:39:58Speaker 01

  Of Grubhub?

• 1:40:01Speaker 04

  Oh, my gosh.

• 1:40:02Speaker 01

  Of Chick-fil-A.

• 1:40:03Speaker 05

Which is all owned by the Shine Hardwood Corporation.

• 1:40:06Speaker 01

Which is all owned by BlackRock.

• 1:40:10Speaker 01

Which is all owned by Alphabet.

• 1:40:13Speaker 01

Well, we tried. We tried to answer them correctly. Some of us got some right, some of us didn't. Thanks for watching. Next week, probably not Headlines in a Hat. Actually, I can't guarantee that. There may be more headlines in more hats, but there will be more headlines for sure. The Hat TBD. See you guys next week. Peace.
