And he has a new movie, Eternity, that comes out November 26th. It'll be in theaters. You can go check it out. I've met him before and I'm grateful to sit down and spend time with him today. He's one of a kind. Today's guest is Mr. Miles Teller.

• 1:22Speaker 02

  And where's your home base?

• 1:24Theo Von?

  My home base is Nashville.

• 1:25Speaker 02

Okay. Yeah, our sister-in-law, or Kelly's sister-in-law, brother-in-law, they just moved to, I think they bought a spot in fucking Troubadour.

• 1:34Theo Von?

Oh yeah, dude, remember that's the first time I met you was-

• 1:36Speaker 02

  Was over there, yeah.

• 1:37Theo Von?

You and your wife, I met you out there with-

• 1:39Speaker 02

  Stelly?

• 1:40Theo Von?

  Yeah, with Will Stelly.

• 1:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:42Theo Von?

  Yeah, that was cool.

• 1:43Speaker 02

  He's an LSU boy too.

• 1:44Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:44Speaker 02

  Yeah. And Todd is awesome.

• 1:46Theo Von?

Yeah, I saw Todd last week.

• 1:47Speaker 02

He's great dude. He's such a fucking, he invited me to the Ryder Cup with him. I couldn't go, but he's just awesome.

• 1:52Theo Von?

  Todd Graves.

• 1:53Speaker 02

  He's a great dude.

• 1:54Theo Von?

Yeah, he's an interesting guy. You know, he owns a Triceratops head. He owns that. He owns one. He lent it to the museum in Louisiana.

• 2:02Speaker 02

I mean, just obviously the skull.

• 2:04Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:05Speaker 02

  Right? Yeah.

• 2:05Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:06Speaker 02

  Yeah, that's cool, though.

• 2:07Theo Von?

  Yeah, good call.

• 2:07Speaker 02

I would pay, I would pay somebody to fucking realistically fill that bitch in.

• 2:11Theo Von?

Oh, dude. Well, especially like, you'll see a lot of perverts will be like, oh, look at the tits on that. I'm like, those aren't, those are horns, you idiot, like.

• 2:18Speaker 02

  Are we talking right now?

• 2:19Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 2:20Speaker 02

  Is this real?

• 2:20Theo Von?

We can be, or we can.

• 2:21Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 2:22Theo Von?

  Start over.

• 2:22Speaker 02

Okay, no, dude, I'm all, yeah, I'm all good. I just had no idea.

• 2:25Theo Von?

But, yeah, you'll see people just hang Mardi Gras bees and stuff on, in Louisiana, people just don't give a shit.

• 2:30Speaker 02

  Wow, wow.

• 2:31Theo Von?

Um, but, yeah, I just saw Todd the other day, dude, I got.

• 2:34Speaker 02

  Where's he keep it?

• 2:36Theo Von?

In the, there's like a museum over there.

• 2:37Speaker 02

  Oh, wow.

• 2:38Theo Von?

So it's, it's like a Louisiana museum. Um, so there's like, you know, the stuff they, the artifacts they keep in there are a little bit different, like a beer bottle, you know, or like.

• 2:48Speaker 02

  Right.

• 2:48Theo Von?

Shit that's just a little bit more Louisiana, like a.

• 2:50Speaker 02

I mean, I grew up, a lot of my, half my life, I grew up in central Florida, so I imagine it would be similar kind of museums, yeah.

• 2:57Theo Von?

With like Daniel Tosh was down there? Was Tosh popping when you were growing up?

• 3:00Speaker 02

Well, yeah, but also like The Daily Show came to my county twice, uh, when I was growing up. The one is because they have a Cooter Festival, which is a type of turtle. Um, and then the other, a Cooter, it's like a type of, type of turtle.

• 3:12Theo Von?

  Bring up that Cooter turtle.

• 3:14Speaker 02

Bring up that, uh, yeah, flash up that Cooter. Uh, and then the other one, it was like Ed Helms came because the town next to mine banned the devil from coming into the, the town. And it was the, it was the town of Inglis, like some pretty backwoods, uh, like Citrus Counties where, you know, I went to middle school, high school.

• 3:31Theo Von?

Bro, that's amazing that they, first of all, this is, uh, oh, it looks like Cooter Tober just happened.

• 3:37Speaker 02

Oh, yeah. Well, they're, they're really kind of, I guess, branching out. You could probably do it for every, every month. Anything that ends in an R, I think you're, you're, you're good, dude.

• 3:48Theo Von?

  Cooter Tober.

• 3:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 3:50Theo Von?

That, that sounds pretty, pretty wild. Cooter Tober is back, it says. Apparently it was discontinued for a bit.

• 3:57Speaker 02

A whole month of Cooterific fun, uh, Inverness, Florida. Let's go. Shout out.

• 4:03Theo Von?

This year we're returning with all your favorite events like the Cooter Carnival, Small Town Saturday Night Cooter Comedy. And, uh, oh, that's great.

• 4:11Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:12Theo Von?

  And that's the Cooter Turtle.

• 4:13Speaker 02

Yeah, that, yeah, that is. Yeah. They must not have discovered it for a while or they must not have given it. They must not have celebrated it as much because it didn't. I remember that they didn't start like Cooter Fest until like I was, I don't even know if I was still in high school. I might've been out of high school. So it took a while.

• 4:29Theo Von?

I wonder how it even got that name because I've heard of people using like kind of

• 4:33Speaker 02

  Slang.

• 4:34Theo Von?

Well, goats for like bestiality, but if they were, if this would be the worst thing to try to invade a species, you know? Like, yeah, did some, like, yeah, how did they get its name? How did the Cooter Turtle get its name? The Cooter Turtle got its name from the African word kuta, which means turtle. In the Bambara and Malinké languages, the word was brought to

• 4:54Speaker 02

Yeah, so it was, yeah. Originally it was kuda.

• 4:56Theo Von?

  Kuda.

• 4:57Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 4:57Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 4:58Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 4:58Theo Von?

  Kuda.

• 4:59Speaker 02

  Yeah, Kuda Fest.

• 5:00Theo Von?

Hey, boy, come on down to Kuda Fest.

• 5:05Theo Von?

I just saw a woman, they have a woman that has two

• 5:09Theo Von?

kudas, actually. I saw she's on TikTok the other day. There's a woman.

• 5:13Speaker 02

  What? Now are you?

• 5:15Theo Von?

Now I'm talking about the anatomy. Now I'm changing it. So

• 5:17Speaker 02

You want to hear a, okay, no, go, yeah, go.

• 5:19Theo Von?

There is a woman who has

• 5:21Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 5:21Theo Von?

  two vaginas that's on TikTok.

• 5:23Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 5:24Theo Von?

Uh, she sent a DM the other day to me the other day.

• 5:26Speaker 02

How many DMs did she send? One of you, one from each?

• 5:31Speaker 02

  Dude, dude.

• 5:33Theo Von?

She sent replica DMs? That's insane, bro.

• 5:36Speaker 02

So can I tell you a story?

• 5:38Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 5:38Speaker 02

So I'm, I'm at my boy's wedding and we're, he's from, he's from Ohio. We're at the, you know, reception now, the after reception. We're all just hanging out in the hotel room and the one dude's like, yo, do you remember, uh, you remember that girl I went to high school with, with two vaginas? And he's like, dude, you're talking about Cheryl? And then his other buddy's like, yo, double barrel Cheryl? And I just thought that was the funniest fucking nickname I've ever heard in my life. Double barrel Cheryl. I was like, that's gotta go in some American Pie type movie. Just double barrel Cheryl. So as soon as he started talking about that, I was like, oh, I have one.

• 6:14Theo Von?

  Put her in a museum.

• 6:16Speaker 02

Well, she used to, apparently she used to say like, this one's for my boyfriend. I'm saving this one for my husband.

• 6:20Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 6:21Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 6:22Theo Von?

  That's kind of beautiful.

• 6:24Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, right?

• 6:25Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 6:25Speaker 02

Yeah, cuz I would just, I would, if I had both, I would, dude.

• 6:29Theo Von?

You'd blow them both in the first week.

• 6:31Speaker 02

  Exactly, exactly, dude.

• 6:33Theo Von?

No, I'd be like, I'm saving this one for after dinner or whatever. I would definitely, dude.

• 6:39Speaker 02

This is the dessert. This is, yeah.

• 6:41Theo Von?

  It would be like.

• 6:43Speaker 02

  A and P M.

• 6:43Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 6:44Speaker 02

That's it, dude. Like the gas station, 24 hours.

• 6:47Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 6:48Speaker 02

  Running all night, dude.

• 6:49Theo Von?

This is my morning one. And this is my evening one. And one is like tattoos around it and stuff. And the other one is, is a bit more like back.

• 6:59Speaker 02

  Classy, classy.

• 7:00Theo Von?

Yeah, a little bit more upscale.

• 7:02Speaker 02

Upscale, upscale. Um, leave a Yelp review. This one's, this one's closing in on five stars. This other one, you know, you know what that one is.

• 7:12Theo Von?

Yeah, and the other one, for some reason, is 3.8 stars. You're like.

• 7:15Speaker 02

  Both, both viable options.

• 7:18Theo Von?

Pretty good. Look, I'll, I'll pull up a chair. Um, go, go back to that woman. That's Double Barrel's a great name.

• 7:26Speaker 02

  Double Barrel's Cheryl, dude.

• 7:28Theo Von?

Wow. We didn't, we weren't, we weren't fortunate enough to get a woman like this in our area. Let's see what she says here.

• 7:36Speaker 03

I was born with two vaginas, two uteruses, and two cervixes. There was no join from my mouth to my stomach, and that instead, my food pipe was connected into my air pipe going into my lungs.

• 7:49Theo Von?

  Okay.

• 7:49Speaker 02

The music is, um, that's, uh, that's tough. I feel like our, uh, our tone should have been a little different when I, we were talking about, um.

• 8:00Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's.

• 8:00Speaker 02

  I'm sure it's a horrible.

• 8:02Theo Von?

Maybe we just, uh, deal with. Oh, I can't even imagine. Even if I had two.

• 8:07Speaker 02

  Penises.

• 8:08Theo Von?

Two penises, I would. Yeah, I don't know. Oh, well, that would be very tough if you were especially like when you're in high school and stuff and your body, you're going through uh, puberty and whatever and you're getting um erection in high school. I would, oh.

• 8:21Speaker 02

  Erections.

• 8:22Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:23Speaker 02

Unless they will operate different frequencies.

• 8:25Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:26Speaker 02

  You know what I'm saying?

• 8:26Theo Von?

  Yeah, once, it's like AMF.

• 8:28Speaker 02

That's like an antenna. Like, that's, that's, like, there's no hiding that. You got, you got two radar. Radar rock, dude. But if you could time them out.

• 8:37Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 8:38Speaker 02

You know, as soon as the one's done, other boy.

• 8:40Theo Von?

  Like a pentameter?

• 8:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:41Theo Von?

  Almost like a drummer?

• 8:42Speaker 02

Like NAS, like your one's just getting the tires, you know, warmed up.

• 8:45Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 8:45Speaker 02

The other one's like, you know, doing a hot lab.

• 8:49Theo Von?

Yeah, dude. I think if you, well, especially.

• 8:52Speaker 02

  Like drummers?

• 8:53Theo Von?

Yeah, it'd be like a, if they had a cool pentameter kind of tool.

• 8:56Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 8:57Theo Von?

  Um.

• 8:57Speaker 02

Well, the Grateful Dead has two drummers.

• 8:59Theo Von?

  Do they?

• 8:59Speaker 02

  It's, it's the best.

• 9:00Theo Von?

  You have their shirt on?

• 9:01Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 9:02Theo Von?

You went to their, I saw you went to their sixtieth?

• 9:05Speaker 02

I did the San Francisco show. I um, yeah, I mean, I've, I've seen him at the Sphere. I've seen kind of this iteration Dead and Co. For, I think, pretty much since John started. But yeah, they're my.

• 9:15Theo Von?

  John Mayer?

• 9:16Speaker 02

Yeah, John Mayer. Uh, but even before that, I was seeing, you know, some different versions of him and, you know, Bob Weir and, uh, you know, Phil Ash kind of independently, but yeah, it's the best. Honestly, like when our house burned down, like the thing that I was, probably one of the things I was most upset about was all of these vintage Grateful Dead shirts, but that community is so awesome. I don't have Instagram or anything, but they reached out to Kelly and were like, hey, you know, Deadheads, they were like, we feel so bad for you guys and we know if our house burned down, we would really miss those shirts. Can we send you some from our own, you know, collection? So a bunch of people um, shout out to you. Uh, you know, just send me shirts. It's such a loving community. Um, I feel like all those

• 9:57Speaker 02

you know, bands from, from that era, especially the Dead, who really kind of supported, you know, everybody. There's, their crowds were rainbow colored before anybody's, if you know what I mean, if that makes sense, so.

• 10:07Theo Von?

Wow. So people just uh, sent you different ones? Did they, is that one of them?

• 10:11Speaker 02

No, this one, this one, I think I got up in San Francisco.

• 10:14Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 10:15Speaker 02

Oh, that was the spread. That was just for like three days, but I was like, I don't, I don't know what pants I'm gonna wear. You know what I mean? I gotta.

• 10:22Theo Von?

Oh, that's for when you went to a show?

• 10:23Speaker 02

For San Francisco, there was three nights. So I just took them all out. Um, it's kind of the only stuff I post about is like, yeah, even my, I guess my bio quote or I mean, that's a Jerry Garcia one.

• 10:35Theo Von?

That's great dude. My brother has a big Joey Garcia tattoo on his chest.

• 10:38Speaker 02

  Does he?

• 10:39Theo Von?

He loves them. Yeah, we got to go together actually and see them at the Sphere one time. Our producer Zach went and saw them, uh, I believe for two nights in San Francisco. Yeah, Zach?

• 10:48Speaker 04

Yeah, I was up there. I was at all three nights, actually.

• 10:50Speaker 02

Yeah, I thought, um, yeah, I mean, they're all amazing. Sturgill, I thought Sturgill was.

• 10:55Speaker 04

I was gonna ask, who do you think is the best sit-in?

• 10:58Speaker 02

Sturgill was exceptional. I mean, I, I just think overall Saturday, Saturday night was kinda the best. And it's hard because you can look at the, you can look at the setlist, but usually at least one of those weekend shows, they, they just catch lightning in a bottle. And I think that's the beauty of the band is that you're never gonna hear the same song twice, but because it's so improvisational. Um, and they're on the ride with you. You know what I mean? To play music at that level. Um, and they are, they're such, I mean, the skillset from all those guys is so high, but it's just fun, dude. I danced my ass off too. People think it's like, you're just high and just sitting there. It's like, no, that music makes me boogie, dude.

• 11:31Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:31Speaker 02

Like, I love it. I love it. If you're not sweating, you're not trying either. I think maybe some of that's the Florida thing, but it's like, I grew up with a thin layer of sweat all over my body all the time. It makes me feel alive, dude.

• 11:42Theo Von?

Oh, in Louisiana, you can't even land a handshake with people. If it's humid day, you'll see people trying to land a handshake for fucking thirty seconds, forty seconds. They'll just give up on the friendship. They'll go their separate ways. It's just, that's the kinda place it is, man.

• 11:54Speaker 02

Yeah, I always say it's like, you have a, you have a thought and you're sweating.

• 11:57Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 11:58Speaker 02

You know what I mean? But that air too, like when you get off the plane, because we would always fly into Tampa, like you get off that plane, it's just a huff. It's just a thick air, dude.

• 12:06Theo Von?

Yeah, it feels like the air has a little bit of an infection, to be honest with you.

• 12:10Speaker 02

When I feel that like air at night, um, it just, it just makes me feel like mischievous. Cause when I was, like all those teenage years, just, you know, sunsets, you know, get on a bike, just figure out some shit to do in your neighborhood. Like that air just makes me kinda. Yeah, relapse, I guess.

• 12:31Theo Von?

It makes, dude, there is something about it like, uh, there's something about, I even think about this, like, if you ever stay at a, if you ever at a place that doesn't have air conditioning, right? Like at first you're like, oh.

• 12:42Speaker 02

  Most of Europe, dude.

• 12:43Theo Von?

You're like, this sucks, but then I feel like your dreams and everything is more acclimated to the actual climate of whatever's going on, right? Um, and I always feel like I get, like, I have, like, like, like more imaginative or creative dreams whenever, um, I'm in a place that doesn't have air conditioning for some reason. Um, but yeah, that South dude, that shit hits you hard. Dude, you do dance, man. I noticed, I remember this now, I think, I don't know if we're, it could have been like marshmallow, maybe. It was one night we were both in Las Vegas after a UFC fight.

• 13:13Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 13:14Theo Von?

And maybe it was chain smokers or something. It might've been that one when Ed Sheeran was there.

• 13:18Speaker 02

  Uh, I don't, I don't know. I don't know.

• 13:20Theo Von?

But you were like, you dance, dude, even if you're just by yourself.

• 13:24Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 13:24Theo Von?

You are doing your own thing. It's like, some people would think like, oh, Miles Teller, like, he's just gonna be like this cool guy. And he just like flew his jet in there, his fucking, his Mach 70 jet.

• 13:36Speaker 02

  Or Southwest.

• 13:38Theo Von?

Yeah. But I mean, he flew his Top Gun plane.

• 13:40Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 13:41Theo Von?

He's gonna sit like, you know.

• 13:42Speaker 02

  Nah, dude, I love it.

• 13:43Theo Von?

You have your own time. That's what it feels like.

• 13:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 13:47Theo Von?

It's like, you decide that I'm gonna have a good time for me and it almost like inspires, like, God, I wish I could be that free.

• 13:53Speaker 02

Well, I heard, I think you're pretty free. I think you're a pretty free fucking dude. You know, just from.

• 13:59Theo Von?

I just wish I could dance better.

• 14:00Speaker 02

  Okay, yeah, well, I mean.

• 14:01Theo Von?

  That's what I mean.

• 14:02Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't know. I think, uh, I don't know, and somebody, I heard something a while back and it's not something I like, think about, but they were like, you know, if you're having a party or wherever, you're in a group of people, you're not sure, everybody, they said like the number one way to kinda try and have everybody, make everybody have a good time is just start, just have a good time yourself. And I think that, but also I've just always like rhythm, uh, yeah, dancing, that's something I've just always kinda got down with. Like, that's how I, I, I just, yeah, I love it. But, yeah, any, I mean, that DJ music, um, but I was like. Bob Seger, like classic rock gets me, gets me going dude, let alone if there's, you know, some rock piano. I love that shit. Yeah.

• 14:45Theo Von?

Um, yeah dude, some good jazz. I like, my mom came in town recently. We went and listened to some blues. She likes to do that. I went and listened to.

• 14:53Speaker 02

Where'd you, did you go somewhere for blues or?

• 14:55Theo Von?

We went to this blues place in Nashville. It's just like in Printer's Alley. It's a, I think it's kind of a, it's a bit of a touristy spot, kind of. But I think we're just having trouble finding a spot and um, and so we went and we had a great time. It was actually a guy from New Orleans that was playing. And so uh, we just sat there and had a, and just had a nice time. She likes to listen to it. It's funny, as my mom gets older, she almost turns into a child a little bit. And there's moments where it's almost like, it's a kid there, you know, but like, just like in an older body.

• 15:24Speaker 02

Like what, just the, the fascination, the kind of, it feels new to her, the kinda?

• 15:31Theo Von?

It's a good question. It's like, you can just see on her face, she's having a good time.

• 15:35Speaker 02

It just feels like pure and some innocence to it? Yeah, okay, yeah, that's great.

• 15:39Theo Von?

  It's almost like.

• 15:40Speaker 02

  How old's your mom?

• 15:41Theo Von?

  She's seventy-seven.

• 15:42Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 15:43Theo Von?

So she's an adult. She looks a little bit like Willie Nelson. Let's see a picture of her. She's not gonna wanna hear that part.

• 15:49Speaker 02

She look a bit like, she look a bit like Willie Nelson. Oh, hell yeah.

• 15:54Theo Von?

  She's awesome.

• 15:55Speaker 02

  Dude, I love that.

• 15:56Theo Von?

She listens to every episode of this.

• 15:57Speaker 02

  Oh, great.

• 15:59Theo Von?

  So.

• 15:59Speaker 02

  What's her name?

• 16:00Theo Von?

  Her name is Gina.

• 16:01Speaker 02

  What's up Gina?

• 16:02Theo Von?

There you go, mom. Miles is married, mom. Calm down. Um, what's your mom's name?

• 16:09Speaker 02

  Uh, Mary.

• 16:10Theo Von?

  Mary?

• 16:11Speaker 02

  Yeah, like Christmas. M E R R Y.

• 16:14Theo Von?

  Oh, really?

• 16:15Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 16:15Theo Von?

And they did that on purpose?

• 16:16Speaker 02

Uh, yeah, yeah. She was born like December fifteenth. But she gets like, so it's not Mary. And my mom's like, my mom's like best friend. Uh, my mom says she's like the only one who pronounces her name correctly and it's Mary. Yeah.

• 16:32Theo Von?

  Okay, Mary.

• 16:34Speaker 02

And then some of the, I just remember like, some of the like, not, they're not your uncles, but like these guys live in the neighborhood and they just all seem like kinda pervy.

• 16:42Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 16:42Speaker 02

  You know?

• 16:43Theo Von?

Oh, guys that loiter or whatever?

• 16:44Speaker 02

They were like family friends and shit, but just some based on the, I don't know. I just feel like when I watch these old home videos, it's, you'll just hear some, you're like, whoa, that was. Pervy as shit, dude. So they'll say like, Mary, then they'll go, huh huh, alright, can't do it. Luga, luga, luga, luga, luga, luga.

• 17:02Theo Von?

Yeah, that's gonna, that's gonna raise a few flags.

• 17:06Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 17:07Theo Von?

  Wow, Mary.

• 17:09Speaker 02

  Matt Ray.

• 17:09Theo Von?

Yeah, that is nice. What is, uh, your mom do for work? Does she work?

• 17:13Speaker 02

She was, uh, she did real estate for a while, but, uh, yeah, no, not working. My dad actually retired. He just retired a couple of years ago. He was born in fifty-four, so seventy-one. I think he retired pretty close to seventy.

• 17:24Theo Von?

And are they enjoying, has it gotten weird for them since they're both retired? Have they all, cause you know, some couples, it gets weird because they're, and they're both at home and stuff?

• 17:32Speaker 02

Yeah, I don't, I mean, yeah, I don't know. You know, I don't know. I mean, I see a good amount, but I'm, I'm sure. Yeah, I know my dad likes doing like outside work.

• 17:42Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:42Speaker 02

  You know what I mean?

• 17:43Theo Von?

Lot of guys, the second they realize that they're, have to be in the, like when the retirement happens, like, oh God, there's nowhere to go.

• 17:49Speaker 02

Yeah, you need some like hobbies, dude.

• 17:52Theo Von?

My stepdad built like forty birdhouses in our yard, dude. He did not want to be.

• 17:56Speaker 02

Just the building them. Yeah. Just nev, did he ever put them on?

• 18:01Theo Von?

Some of them he did. He also, he got the one, the helmet.

• 18:04Speaker 02

Back to fourteen year old in shop class. I guess that's kind of the.

• 18:07Theo Von?

He was building doghouse. We didn't even have a dog. I think he just wanted to be, he still needed some time alone.

• 18:12Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 18:13Theo Von?

  So I think there's.

• 18:14Speaker 02

I mean, I don't have kids yet, but I, I imagine, you know, yeah, cause growing up, my dad would, you know, he'd be like working on the pool. Or something, just be fiddling with stuff in the garage for like hours. I don't, I have no idea what he was doing.

• 18:25Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 18:25Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 18:27Theo Von?

Yeah, that's gotta be cool dad stuff. I bet it'll be cool whenever you're a dad.

• 18:30Speaker 02

Tinkering. I just want to tinker. You know, I mean, I could tinker for, for days, dude.

• 18:35Theo Von?

Let me get out here. Let me start collecting something weird too. My buddy's dad, uh, collected all these toy trains and stuff. And whenever we'd go over there, he'd have to set it all up, dude. It would take, we'd just.

• 18:47Speaker 02

Like around the holidays, around Christmas or something?

• 18:48Theo Von?

I think it was anytime. He started to lose his mind and he would just set that bitch up in June, you know?

• 18:53Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 18:54Theo Von?

And, uh, and we, he'd have to set, he'd have to do the train and it was just like, oh, you want to support your friend's parents, but it was just a lot. It was a lot. It's a lot to watch somebody do the toy train a lot.

• 19:07Speaker 02

We had, I had this bus driver growing up, uh. His nickname was Fingers cuz he was missing like a couple of them.

• 19:15Theo Von?

But he had this. Thankfully, that's the reason why dude. Because there's a bus full of kids.

• 19:21Speaker 02

Fingers, fingers. Yeah. And he'd always point at you with the, with the nub.

• 19:25Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 19:25Speaker 02

But he had this belt buckle, cuz we were just talking about collecting weird shit or whatever. But he had this belt buckle that was, uh, looked like he had hand glued on like silver dollars. And so it's just like twenty silver dollars. I thought it was cool as shit when I was a kid.

• 19:40Theo Von?

Oh dude, this stuff you thought was cool when you were a kid was so great, dude.

• 19:43Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 19:44Theo Von?

Even like you said earlier, like, I remember, I was talking about this the other day, whenever like the sun, like, if you were playing in the street with your friends and it was like, somebody was pitching the ball, you're like, one more pitch. But the sun was setting, like, you're like, dude, just one more. Like, you knew you were gonna try to hit a homer. Like, it just, the game, it didn't, it wasn't even, it was just like, just these moments when you were a kid, everything was so severe. Or if you rode your bike at night, just anything like that, it was so.

• 20:07Speaker 02

Just riding a bike, like, it just, I think the beauty, you know, just riding bike in, in general, man, it just brings you back to that. Um, I got, I knocked myself out once playing this game. Uh, I got a bunch of concussions when I was younger, but my sister just graduated like sixth grade, I was probably in fourth grade. So like I was trying to come up with a game, so we grabbed a basketball and like an aluminum bat. And we're like, I will play baseball. So she pitched it. I hit it the first time, you know, it's like ding ding ding. So I'm like, alright, I gotta grip it tighter. Second time, fucking metal bat with a rubber ball, dude, I fucking swung it, ding. Knocked myself out.

• 20:42Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 20:43Speaker 02

My parents actually, she, they were saying that, uh, like the teachers in my school were thinking that my parents were beating me. Cuz I would come in like once a week or two, just like shiner, like concussion, dude. And I had that little surfer cut, so I would try and just cover the.

• 20:58Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 20:59Speaker 02

The fucking tennis ball with that.

• 21:01Theo Von?

  Waves are intense.

• 21:02Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow, gnarly, gnarly swell today, boys.

• 21:08Theo Von?

Bitcoin just hit an all-time high, which is pretty wild considering that it was just trading at around $60,000 last year. When I need more Bitcoin, Moonpay is always the first app that I open because it doesn't force you to buy a whole coin and it's super easy to use. Moonpay is actually one of the biggest partners on this show and I'm excited to share that I've made the decision to accept my compensation from them in Bitcoin instead of US dollars. I'm planning to hold and save that Bitcoin in my Moonpay account, indeed. The Bitcoin will sit in a digital Moonpay wallet that nobody can access except for

• 21:52Theo Von?

me. The US dollars continue to fluctuate in value, so by making this decision, I'm diversifying my portfolio and hopefully earning more from our partnership than I would have otherwise. Remember, while Moonpay makes buying crypto straightforward, it's essential to do your own research and understand the risks involved. Crypto trading can be volatile and you could lose your investment. Moonpay is a tool to facilitate your transactions, not a source of financial advice. Trade responsibly. • 25:03Speaker 02

We, um, you know, and I was filming a movie in London and our, we had a house in Studio City. Um, and that house got robbed while I was filming. And so I thought I was just gonna like, I thought we'd go back after filming, kind of bump up security measures, re fortified. And Kelly's like, no, she's like, they, you know, they go through all of her stuff and it is, it's a very violating feeling. So then we bought that Pal State's house and honestly, I would say it was the first. Kind of neighborhood in LA where my wife um A felt really safe and then B would be like excited to to go back to LA whenever we'd be filming. I never heard her say that in like the 12 years we'd been dating.

• 25:42Theo Von?

  Hmm.

• 25:43Speaker 02

And um yeah, we like worked with some designers. My wife like really designed so much of it. And I had this feeling last night because we're in this rental, you know, obviously we've we've been in rentals. And um I was just laying in bed. I was like, man, this. You know, we're in a the place we're in is, you know, it's a nice place. We don't have to worry about the, you know, the water, the air, the, you know, it's it's really well done, but at the same time, it just it fucks with your mind when you can't look around at any point and see anything that reminds you of your life.

• 26:14Theo Von?

  Hmm.

• 26:15Speaker 02

You know, everything is just, there's no attachment to to anything. Um, oh, that's literally my fucking house.

• 26:23Theo Von?

Oh, I don't know why we brought that up.

• 26:25Speaker 02

That's my Bronco, though. That was my 75 fucking Bronco.

• 26:29Theo Von?

  No way, really?

• 26:29Speaker 02

So beautiful, dude. I had that thing for like eight years.

• 26:34Theo Von?

Uh, why would we bring this?

• 26:36Speaker 02

My um but my no, honestly, it's it's about to be fair. The first picture I saw, Kelly and I saw from our fucking house to know that it was actually burnt down was from TMZ.

• 26:47Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 26:48Speaker 02

Like, they sent a drone in there. Um, and also, they just because they started the first homes they're talking about are like celebrity homes. And that's not fair because the community of the Palisades, all of our neighbors in that community, honestly, were people that had lived there for like 30, 40 years. It was um, you know, it's people that had like, you know, raised their kids there, were having their grandkids there. A lot of those people, you know, their home burns down at like 70 years old. It's like, we don't have time to to rebuild. Um, but you know, there was like a little elementary school across the street and they had these dudes on bikes with, you know, like wooden boxes behind them. They would, you know, ride the kids home from school. It really was like, like that movie Pleasantville. I don't know. It was just such a well done um.

• 27:33Speaker 02

  Yeah, community.

• 27:35Theo Von?

  It's a nice place.

• 27:36Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 27:36Theo Von?

I've gone to a lot of like.

• 27:37Speaker 02

  Was.

• 27:38Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 27:38Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 27:39Theo Von?

We, we used to get a lot of recovery meetings up there and it was just like, it'd be the most nicest thing. On Saturday, we'd pull up and people would.

• 27:44Speaker 02

Would you go to the church on Via de la Paz?

• 27:46Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 27:46Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, that's the road I lived on. I lived down, I lived like two blocks, maybe even one block from that church. Cause my buddy said he used to have meetings over there.

• 27:54Theo Von?

Dude, yeah, they had some of the best meetings in the world were there, really. Um, and it was just such a special energy of it. If you go walk and go over to that, uh, that smoothie shop that's over there. And they got those akai bowls.

• 28:05Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 28:06Theo Von?

And then they got the little restaurant right across the street from it.

• 28:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 28:09Theo Von?

Um, that's right near that Starbucks in that big pink, like that whole.

• 28:12Speaker 02

Are you talking like the village and stuff?

• 28:14Theo Von?

Yeah, no, it's like there's that Starbucks in the corner.

• 28:16Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 28:16Theo Von?

And there's that little place that has breakfast and like right around the corner from it.

• 28:19Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 28:20Theo Von?

But yeah, we'd go park at the Gelson's and sit there and people would talk before the meetings and then we'd walk over to the meeting together.

• 28:25Speaker 02

  Oh, good.

• 28:26Theo Von?

But it was just a nice, it was like, yeah, man, that place is, it's a great place. Um, I'm sorry that that happened, man. Were you guys able to go in and get stuff out or what was that like?

• 28:35Speaker 02

Nah, I mean, so like when the fire, when the fire started, like we could see it start from, cause in that area of Via de la Paz, you kind of have a good vantage point. You got some, uh, some altitude to you. So we could see like where the fire started. And I'll say it was probably about three and a half, four miles maybe, uh, at our 12 o'clock. And the winds really weren't that bad at that point. Um, it was scary because we were seeing the fire, you know, start to encroach on some homes. And so you're watching a home, you know, with this fire going towards a home. You're just feeling for that, that family, whoever's there and then turn on the news. And because there's one road out, I mean, it was already kind of like, it got serious very fast. And, you know, people were like abandoning their vehicles. Uh, you know, it's like women running with babies.

• 29:19Speaker 02

And this was it within like an hour of this fire kind of starting. And so I was taking care of my grandma at the time because my grandpa had just passed away like around Christmas. So I was in the process of moving her out with me. And so, you know, um, she's got some meds and she's slow moving. So I was like, hey, grandma, you know, maybe, uh, no, no rush, but you know, let's start getting your meds together. And, uh, yeah, I mean, we grabbed.

• 29:43Speaker 02

Grabbed a couple t-shirts. I grabbed like two Grateful Dead shirts. We thought we'd be in a hotel for like, you know, a couple, couple nights and um, but no, I remember at one point, my brother-in-law calling my wife and he's like, uh, you know, make sure Miles grabs that, you know, Kobe jersey or that Eagles thing. And I was like, what? I couldn't come to terms with, I just couldn't face the reality. A, I did not think our neighbor was gonna burn down. There's like no brush. It would had to jump six lanes, which it didn't. But I just remember thinking like, where do you, you know, it's like, where do you stop? You know, if I take this off the wall, then there's just too much. Uh, I think it's kind of, I think it's kind of overwhelming, but we,

• 30:25Speaker 02

it's funny because I always told Kelly, like if a natural disaster happens, something like that, you're gonna drive, um, the truckload, everything in the back. I'm gonna take my Bronco. Um, but when stuff, when it's actually happening, you're like, no, obviously, um, I have, you know, make sure my wife and, you know, my grandma and, you know, and our, our dog and stuff. So no, we really didn't, we really didn't grab, I'm saying even little shit, like when you're at home, I imagine you have like a favorite coffee mug. If you drink coffee or just something that you have, has some history to it. It's like, just none of that stuff. Truly, it's like everything I've acquired in life, um, gone. Yeah, it's wild.

• 31:03Theo Von?

Was there feelings after that? Like, cause that's like, I mean, that's such a,

• 31:10Theo Von?

you know, it's traumatic. It's, is there anything in a weird way, and I don't mean this, is there anything cathartic in some weird way about it? Does that sound crazy to think, or is that not a real thing?

• 31:21Speaker 02

No, I think, because I've, no, because there's some people that have lost, I don't know if it was their, their, you know, main home. There are certainly people that have talked about that kind of baptism of it, but I told, I told Kelly, this was like a couple of days after I said, look, I know at some point, you know, especially when we have kids, if we're fortunate to have kids, and we're giving them life lessons. That's what it's all about. Parent, you've been through the thing they're going through, more or less. And I said, you know, the fact We'll be able to sit down with our kids and say, you know, when your mother and I were, you know, your age or this age, we lost everything and we figured it out. And I know that as a couple, that really is gonna just make us stronger.

• 32:05Speaker 02

Uh, we didn't have any cracks before, but certainly like when you go through something like this, um, you know, it bonds you uh in such a in such a way. And then she told me, stop bright siding me. I said, what the fuck is bright siding? She goes, it's this term I'm learning on Instagram. It's uh, or TikTok. She's like, bright siding is when you're telling somebody this thing. No matter what it is, something traumatic and they're like, well, look on the bright side. You know, you have your health.

• 32:29Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 32:30Speaker 02

And it's like, it kind of invalidates the thing they're, they're going through. But I know what you're talking, I know, for me, I guess I feel that more like when I move, if I ever move and you go through everything you own, you're like, oh my God.

• 32:41Theo Von?

  That's what I'm thinking.

• 32:42Speaker 02

I don't care about half this shit.

• 32:43Theo Von?

That's what I'm thinking of more, just like spring cleaning. I'm like, dude, that's a horrible comparison.

• 32:48Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 32:48Theo Von?

  Um, but yeah.

• 32:49Speaker 02

No, but it's, it's valid. I had, I had a, uh, this director, I worked with his house burned down and he, he felt like it was, um, and we know, right? You shouldn't have attachment to things, right? That, that doesn't really really fill you up as much as relationships do and this and that, but, um, the things I'm talking about, they weren't, even though they're considered material, it was just.

• 33:09Theo Von?

  It was a home.

• 33:10Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:11Theo Von?

  Yeah, that's true.

• 33:11Speaker 02

And that's the other field, just like not having a, whatever home means to you, like a place where you go back, it's yours. Like we've been getting kicked out of rentals, like, they tell you, we have it for three months. They're like, ah, now somebody else coming in. So that, that just kind of thing.

• 33:23Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 33:24Speaker 02

But yeah, but it's, yeah, it's all good.

• 33:26Theo Von?

Well, thanks for entertaining some of those questions. Yeah, I didn't, and maybe you've talked about that ad nauseam, man. And yeah, and I'm sorry if you have, I just didn't, uh, I didn't really think about that. Um, I watched your movie, dude.

• 33:39Speaker 02

  Yeah. What'd you think?

• 33:39Theo Von?

I watched it last night, man. I thought it was really great. I thought it was, one of the things you talked about a few minutes ago made me kind of even think about it. It was like, um, When you look around your ha- your rental place that you're at now.

• 33:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 33:51Theo Von?

That there's not even things that are your, like, there's not pieces of you that are spaces or memories or you can walk past something and think like, oh, Kelly and I were there, that's, you know, one of our first vacations or that's where we got a dog or different things like that, right? Um, and it kind of reminded me of just some of the, uh, like the archives that, um, cause the movie's called Eternity.

• 34:14Speaker 02

  Right, right, right.

• 34:14Theo Von?

And it's basically, can you just give me a brief summation of what it's like? Cause you'll do a better job.

• 34:19Speaker 02

So when you die, uh, they, you get put with somebody and, and then you, you know, you take a train and then you get kind of deposited, deposited in this like Grand Central Station meets like World's Fair kind of place. You get an afterlife coordinator and then they, the rules are you, you know, you get to live eternally, you pick an eternity. But once you pick, you're in that for, you know, forever.

• 34:40Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 34:40Speaker 02

And so the eternities have different themes. There's like capitalism world or like, uh, smoking world.

• 34:45Theo Von?

  Yeah, Marilyn Manson world.

• 34:47Speaker 02

  Yeah, Marilyn, yeah, Manson world.

• 34:48Theo Von?

  Chocolate world.

• 34:49Speaker 02

Yeah, you can get down with, you know, what, yeah, whatever. Somebody was like, I want an eternity where it's like, uh, Miami Beach spaghetti and cocaine. I was like, well, that's Miami. That's like, I think you just, you can actually go there now.

• 35:03Theo Von?

Yeah, that's, uh, that's a night at Carbone.

• 35:05Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, Carbone is so good.

• 35:09Theo Von?

  Carbone is good, dude.

• 35:10Speaker 02

Um, yeah. Beautiful, yeah, beaut- I thought it was just beautifully shot. I just thought it was really, just a really original script. You know what I mean? It's like.

• 35:18Theo Von?

  It's so original.

• 35:19Speaker 02

  Um.

• 35:19Theo Von?

And it makes you think about like, you know, if I do pass away, it gives me, it gave me like, um.

• 35:23Speaker 02

  Well, you will pass away.

• 35:24Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 35:25Speaker 02

Shit. Now I'm just thinking, well, I don't know, biohacking is crazy right now.

• 35:31Theo Von?

Haters, a lot of haters in here.

• 35:34Speaker 02

If I do pass away, well, yeah, debatable, yeah.

• 35:37Theo Von?

But it was great because your, uh, your character's wife, uh.

• 35:42Speaker 02

  Elizabeth Olsen.

• 35:43Theo Von?

Elizabeth Olsen, right. She passes away and then she has to choose between her first love.

• 35:49Speaker 02

Yeah, this dude who's been waiting, he passed away in the Korean War. He's been waiting like sixty something years for her.

• 35:55Theo Von?

Right. And you who are at the, kind of like at the Grand Central Station now too. You guys are both kind of waiting for her in a way.

• 36:00Speaker 02

Yeah, well, I didn't know he was, I didn't know he was still waiting for her.

• 36:04Theo Von?

Are we giving away too much of it?

• 36:06Speaker 02

No, that's, that's in, I think that's like in the trailer.

• 36:09Theo Von?

Yeah, it's all like in the first ten minutes. But it's kind of fascinating because then she shows up and now you two are kind of vying for affections. And then who does she stay with? Does she stay with this first love that she lost and didn't get to have a life with? Or does she stay with this love that she already got to have a life with? And it's just.

• 36:27Speaker 02

And there was like, some people were telling me, you know, it's like, oh, man, that's, that's my, my nightmare. You know, people that have been, you know, had, you know, been widowed and moved on this and that. But it, but look, I think it, but it does, it really makes you think about,

• 36:45Speaker 02

yeah, your own life and what's beyond and, you know, family and.

• 36:51Theo Von?

Well, and how long love lives. I think that was part of it. Like, I remember when I've done, and this is a little bit of a weird sidebar, but like when I've done like DMT, it's like, the only feeling that you're left with is that the only important feeling, as it feels like you're leaving the existence, is that love was the most important thing and that everything else was just a complete fool's errand.

• 37:16Speaker 02

  And also that,

• 37:20Speaker 02

well, because we were talking about, but you get this feeling that your, your consciousness, which is who we are, is really, you know, this really is just kind of this

• 37:33Speaker 02

vessel, this physical form, but it is, but who you are exists when you ever you've been in a situation where you feel like you've left your body, but you still, you know, think like yourself, you still feel like yourself and that, that kind of remains intact.

• 37:51Theo Von?

Yeah, that's a good. And we're not saying that you know what I'm talking about, but we're just saying that, that yes, the consciousness of who we are still exists outside of our vessels. That's what certain experiences have made me feel like. And that that consciousness is still able to evaluate that love is so important.

• 38:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:12Theo Von?

That's one thing that I thought.

• 38:13Speaker 02

No, but also I've thought about that too. I'm like, I think the most important thing in life for me really is, you know, it's like relationships. You know, to me, that's the thing when I'm, I imagine when I'm sitting there on my deathbed, if I'm lucky enough to.

• 38:29Theo Von?

  If you die.

• 38:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, if, if I die.

• 38:33Theo Von?

Cause we have a new package for you.

• 38:34Speaker 02

Right, sure, I can't wait. Give me that longevity, you know, whatever it is.

• 38:39Theo Von?

We got a new peptide for you.

• 38:41Speaker 02

Perfect, dude. You know, Kelly will show me like one thing, somebody talk about some product. I'm like, yeah, sure, sounds good. What is it bee pollen sperm like, if I can put it in a smoothie, babe. But no, but it's like relationships, like to me, that's, that's what I'm thinking. I'm not gonna be thinking about all this, you know, that Bronco or that movie or that. I'm gonna be like, man, I'm gonna be thinking about, you know, my wife, my, you know, my buddies, my, you know, my family, my, um, my relationship with whatever higher being I have. And I think that's kind of the, and that's what I get the most, um, like the return from, um, what you put into relationships, that's what, that's what you're gonna get back. I just think that's, that's always kind of led me on a good path in life.

• 39:21Theo Von?

Yeah, it's like, I know, sometimes I feel like I've almost spent too much time working. One of the nice things, like I recently kind of have gotten to take a break from touring because I'd been kind of touring pretty heavily for like four or five years.

• 39:33Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 39:33Theo Von?

And maybe really for probably 15 years. And, uh, and so like I've been able to like go to football games and like maybe try to plan a date and go on a date, you know, not be like. Try to pick up the pieces all the time and stuff like that and like, yeah, just things like that to be able to see a friend like a couple of weeks in a row or know that you're gonna be able to keep their relationship going, stuff like that is um.

• 39:56Speaker 02

And when it's not just sandwiched in between, it's like, okay, I have one and a half days, you know, I have this thing on Friday, you know, this thing on Monday, whatever. Um, yeah, that's never enjoyable.

• 40:07Theo Von?

It doesn't feel real. It doesn't feel like there's any space.

• 40:09Speaker 02

Time to yourself and I like even with filming, man, I've, I've kind of always been pretty good. Obviously, if it's, I have no problem going like back to back to back if it's the right thing, but other than that, uh, it's for me, it's gotta be really special because you just, you take time, like I enjoy my Miles life. I enjoy my life with my friends and my family and, you know, Kelly and this and that. So, uh, to have the time to, like you said, kind of nourish those relationships is so important.

• 40:35Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 40:36Speaker 02

You know, and just figure out who like, I don't know, get back to what you like.

• 40:40Theo Von?

Yeah, man. Yeah, I, I, I thought it was interesting how in the movie, oh, who is the, um, so you get to like the Grand Central Station, right? Like this sort of this purgatory type of place.

• 40:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:51Theo Von?

And they connect you with an afterlife coordinator.

• 40:55Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 40:55Theo Von?

And then the funny thing is, yeah, there's like, it's almost like this mall of like afterlives. They're trying to sell you or shop to you. It's like, oh, here's one. It's just a bed bath and beyond forever. And you're just in a place, you're in a candle and lotion shop forever. Or here's one, it's at the beach, you're at the beach forever or skiing forever. And it's like all the, it's like, uh, uh, you know, um, Willie Nelson world. And it's just like everybody there looks like Willie Nelson and that's all they do all the time.

• 41:20Speaker 02

People that love, you know, you guys love the same shit.

• 41:23Theo Von?

Right. So you can, yeah. And you get to go there and you're going to meet other people that love Willie Nelson and it's going to be Willie Nelson forever, right?

• 41:30Speaker 02

  Hell yeah.

• 41:30Theo Von?

Um, but they give you like this afterlife coordinator, like you said, uh, and those characters were great in yours, man. Thank God.

• 41:37Speaker 02

Devine Joy Randolph, who won the supporting actress Oscar for The Holdovers. Um, and then John Early, who is a, I'm sure some people watching this like know who John is. He's, he's got some really incredible standup specials.

• 41:50Theo Von?

  Bring him up?

• 41:51Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 41:52Theo Von?

I don't know if I was familiar with him or.

• 41:53Speaker 02

Couple of shows too. John's. He's impressive, man.

• 41:57Theo Von?

Bro, they were killing me, dude. Some of the looks he was giving.

• 42:00Speaker 02

  Yeah, I know.

• 42:03Speaker 02

He's pretty sassy in this movie, which I love.

• 42:05Theo Von?

Bro, that shit was hilarious, dude. I gotta touch base with this guy.

• 42:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 42:10Theo Von?

I gotta watch more of his stuff. Um, but yeah, dude, that was great. And then how, uh, yeah, it was just like, man, she'd had this love that had died in the war, you know? And it was like, oh, and she'd waited and then she'd met you. And yeah, it was just like, and then like, there was this moment where you realized that, yeah, I don't want to give any, I don't want to give any more away. Um, but it was also harrowing to think of like, how many, how many widows were, how many women were widowed by war? You know?

• 42:40Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, right?

• 42:41Theo Von?

Like, how often did that happen? Pull that up, actually. Can you see how many, um, women were widowed by?

• 42:48Speaker 02

Yeah, I mean, I forget what they said. The average lifespan was for Norm, when they stormed Normandy, but it was, they're getting mowed down.

• 42:56Theo Von?

Wow, it says for World War One alone, approximately three to four million women were widowed due to the roughly 9.7 million military deaths.

• 43:03Speaker 02

  Wow, wow.

• 43:05Theo Von?

  Other conflicts show varied figures.

• 43:08Speaker 02

Yeah, cause also women were married, uh, pretty young.

• 43:14Speaker 02

  Do you like touring?

• 43:17Theo Von?

Yeah, you almost get addicted to it, though, in some ways.

• 43:19Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 43:20Theo Von?

Because it's, it's a great time. It's fun. People, you want to go see people that want to pay attention, you know?

• 43:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 43:27Theo Von?

And I like, I would start going to smaller markets. Like, we did like 250 something markets over the past four years.

• 43:33Speaker 02

  Wow.

• 43:33Theo Von?

With this tour, um, and it was, uh, yeah, it's great. But then you start, it is like, it starts to become a lot. It like, it's just, it just, it just, it just was a lot.

• 43:46Speaker 02

  Imagine you're like,

• 43:49Speaker 02

Yeah, of course you want to, you know, that's

• 43:51Theo Von?

You want to see everybody, you want to make everybody happy.

• 43:53Speaker 02

Yeah, and that's like, it's like whenever I go somewhere and, you know, if there's some event, you know, an event and you can tell, okay, these are actually fans. These aren't just, you know, scalpers or dudes trying to sell your autograph. It's like, yeah, of course I make movies for people to, to like, to see them. And so the fans are a product of that. It's like, yeah, I love, I love doing that stuff. You just feel like, yeah, of course we're in the entertainment industry.

• 44:14Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 44:14Speaker 02

You know what I mean? It doesn't exist in a vacuum. Like you want to bring a smile to somebody's face. Especially those smaller markets that don't get the kind of, the acts that, you know, the other spots do.

• 44:23Theo Von?

Yeah, we've had so much fun. I mean, from places like Casper, Wyoming to Beaumont to Toledo. I mean, we've done like so many markets and they're like, oh, well, these other places that we can go to. And then we'll do like a lot of just meeting groups after the show. We'll just go pop out and meet people. So, you know, you'll be sitting out there just hugging people and like checking in on folks and like getting a temperature of humanity and stuff like that. And it feels good. It almost feels in a little way like you live everywhere, kind of in some ways. Cause you realize that there's just so many great people, you know, who are like, a lot of like, are all kind of searching for some of the same things, you know? Um, I think with our, with this podcast, it's sometimes it's a bit more than just kind of like jokes and information. Sometimes it's like, just like, kind of creating a connection, you know? Yeah. Show me that chart again, man. Thank you for asking though, man.

• 45:07Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, of course.

• 45:08Theo Von?

The Civil War had 620,000 to 750,000 military deaths, high widowhood.

• 45:15Theo Von?

Let me see, World War I estimated around 325,000 widows. World War II, around 405,000 widows. Korean War, and that was the war that, um, your co actor died in, in this movie.

• 45:30Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 45:30Theo Von?

Around 36,000 widows. But yeah, I mean, you just think of all those women. And there was a moment where she said she went and sat at the boat docks and was waiting for his, for the boat he was on to come in.

• 45:40Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 45:41Theo Von?

So I, I think that was one thing that was neat about, um, Eternity to me was like, There's this fun like thing going on where you guys are like, you know, figuring out these different world like the afterlife and it's super entertaining. But then there's also like, there was this sort of like emotion, like kind of pretty emo emotional stuff going on with like, yeah, how do we look at love and like, if you've already gotten to live one love, if you got to go back, would you choose a different one? And uh, yeah, it was just.

• 46:06Speaker 02

Yeah, it's certainly, I mean, what I enjoyed about reading the script and kind of when we performed it was that it does, it never loses its kind of grounding and, and the stakes and the sincerity of it. There's some really funny moments and there's some kind of, um, you know, but that nothing ever becomes like slapstick. It's not, it's not a movie where we're just trying to get in as many one-liners as we can. I think it's, it always kind of, um, it's just a delicate balance between having that sincerity and the love and, but also I think, I do think it's really funny.

• 46:41Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 46:42Speaker 02

It's like, it's just, and we had, after the, we did the premiere in Toronto, man, we just had, like at the after-party, you could just tell people were kind of coupling off and just talking, it just makes you think. I think it's a beautiful, a beautiful film.

• 46:55Theo Von?

Um, one of my favorite parts too is just right in the beginning when they're driving in that car together, dude.

• 47:00Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 47:01Theo Von?

I could have watched those two people in that car.

• 47:03Speaker 02

That's the Northeast, dude. But also it's just couples that have been around for that long, just this natural, just kind of.

• 47:09Theo Von?

  Oh.

• 47:10Speaker 02

You're not going to offend me and just bullshit banter, bickering, complaining.

• 47:13Theo Von?

And they're both, neither one of them is saying everything they're doing, it's just kind of like making the other one, like whatever they're saying a problem.

• 47:20Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, I think my wife and I secretly enjoy to like, kind of fucking annoy each other. You know what I mean?

• 47:27Theo Von?

Yeah, that's probably part of love, probably.

• 47:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 47:31Theo Von?

Like a little bit of annoyance, a little bickering. Um, I didn't realize that the, um, uh, Elizabeth Olsen.

• 47:38Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 47:39Theo Von?

I didn't realize that she was related to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

• 47:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 47:42Theo Von?

  I had no idea.

• 47:43Speaker 02

  I know, a pretty dynamic.

• 47:44Theo Von?

  Family.

• 47:45Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 47:46Theo Von?

That's wild. Did you get to meet them? Did they come by the side?

• 47:49Speaker 02

Uh, they did not. No, they did not.

• 47:51Theo Von?

It's so crazy because they had a childhood startup lives that had to be so odd.

• 47:54Speaker 02

Yeah, I know it tends to, I mean, and they've become very successful, you know, in the design.

• 48:00Theo Von?

  Outside of it, yeah.

• 48:01Speaker 02

  Space, absolutely. I think it's, it's, it's tough.

• 48:05Theo Von?

Oh, it'd be a nightmare. Do you feel like it affected you?

• 48:08Speaker 02

  If I was at, what?

• 48:10Theo Von?

Did you feel like you started to become popular at a pretty young age? Do you feel like you were kind of baked into you already? Or do you feel like if it had been earlier, like, do you have any thoughts about that?

• 48:20Speaker 02

Like, I think, I think for me, things happened, uh, kind of at the pace that, that lined up with my own kind of maturity or life experiences. Cause you know, it's like I went to, went to college for four years and, and trained there and so.

• 48:39Speaker 02

Yeah, I was like 22 when I did my first movie, maybe like 20, maybe I was like 24, 25 when Footloose came out and the project X and that kind of thing. And I was doing some college comedy type stuff. So that was all good. I think had I gotten, you know, really famous when I was like 17. Um, I mean, I was raised really well. I, you know, I never had to worry about my parents or somebody taking money from me, you know, which happens a lot. It's really unfortunate. Um, that's, that's really a shame to lose trust.

• 49:11Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 49:12Speaker 02

That young from love one, I think that's going to fuck you up for the rest of your life, um, truly.

• 49:16Theo Von?

  Oh, that's a good point.

• 49:17Speaker 02

But yeah, for me, it was pretty, it was like honestly, pretty, pretty organic. I never, I felt like I was able to handle. And also I moved, when I moved out to LA, a bunch of my boys, uh, from high school all moved out. So I didn't, I didn't like need anything from LA. I was, I didn't come to LA to like find myself. I'm like, no, I know who I am. And me, you know, me and my buddies get a house or whatever in the valley. And, um, yeah, I always had like familiar faces around me.

• 49:41Theo Von?

  Oh, that's so nice.

• 49:42Speaker 02

Even my agent, I met her on my first movie. She's been the same ever since. Like that shit to me hasn't, hasn't changed.

• 49:50Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 02

Um, you know, I think I was lucky in that sense that a bunch of my boys were like, yeah, we'll go.

• 49:55Theo Von?

  Dang.

• 49:57Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 49:57Theo Von?

That's dope. Dude, were they acting too?

• 50:00Speaker 02

Uh, the one, the one moved out. We played in a band together in high school. I think he was trying to do something maybe music wise. Uh, but no, yeah.

• 50:10Theo Von?

It's a tough, getting LA is hectic. What was y'all's band name in high school?

• 50:14Speaker 02

Uh, we were, we were the Mutes because we played the, we all started, we played like the homecoming parade. And then the electric, the power went out for our generator. So the amps, there was no sound. So that's enough of a reason to, you know, that's a band name right there. I think we actually were playing for SWAT. Like on the SWAT float, which was a.

• 50:36Theo Von?

  Really? Like the SWAT team?

• 50:38Speaker 02

No, like students working against tobacco. Yeah. You don't remember SWAT? It was like Dare and like SWAT.

• 50:45Theo Von?

No, dude. We had, bro, we had a Dare officer named Mr. Bob and R I P. He passed away. Everybody knew who he was. But he would like pull up and he was, he was a humongous man. And this is back when if a man was very big.

• 51:00Speaker 02

What is, what does Dare stand for again?

• 51:02Theo Von?

  Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

• 51:04Speaker 02

Cause I can only just, I instantly just think of whatever the, the ones that people would make up their own.

• 51:10Theo Von?

  Oh, the meme ones?

• 51:11Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 51:11Theo Von?

Yeah. Um, yeah. What are some of the meme Dare ones? I don't, I don't even know if I know any of them.

• 51:15Speaker 02

No, I just remember in high school, people would say, oh, drugs are really expensive. You know, or.

• 51:22Theo Von?

Yeah. Well, especially in Florida, if you got some good drugs. But dude, SWAT?

• 51:27Speaker 02

So what happened with the officer?

• 51:29Theo Von?

It was students working against tobacco?

• 51:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 51:32Theo Von?

What do you mean? Working against tobacco?

• 51:35Speaker 02

Yeah, there it is, dude. SWAT was big. SWAT was big time. I'm surprised.

• 51:39Theo Von?

Bro, that sketch on the right. Zoom in. That sketch on the right, dude.

• 51:45Theo Von?

What the fuck is he doing there?

• 51:46Speaker 02

Yeah. See inventor's laboratory, big tobacco, like big tobacco's going down. Let's go.

• 51:52Theo Von?

I don't even know what the fuck, cause.

• 51:54Speaker 02

Yeah, they would, I mean, they would have meetings.

• 51:57Theo Von?

Bro, that is sketch. I can't even believe you guys. He was locked in with that shit.

• 52:00Speaker 02

Well, that's not my high school. So he was, yeah. But our float probably looks, you just needed some, some dude with a flatbed. And they just throw some streamers on it.

• 52:11Theo Von?

Bro, I never heard that in my life. I do.

• 52:13Speaker 02

  Funny.

• 52:13Theo Von?

I, I've never heard of it.

• 52:14Speaker 02

  Yeah. Okay.

• 52:16Theo Von?

I do remember. Yeah. Try on perplexity. See what they got. Pull up some of the Dare memes.

• 52:20Speaker 02

So what did this, what did Officer Bob, what was his? What was his big moment? Yeah, see, drugs are really, drugs are really exciting.

• 52:28Theo Von?

  Don't actually recover ever.

• 52:30Speaker 02

Whoa, Jesus. Drop everything and run.

• 52:36Theo Von?

Yeah, those are, yeah, but it was a lot of, it was like people screaming, I won't do drugs or whatever.

• 52:42Theo Von?

But Officer Bob was huge, dude, and one year he pulled up and he could not get it. He couldn't even get out of his car, right? So he had to do the talk from a megaphone from his vehicle. And people were like, what? And it just sounded like so garbled and stuff and like, um, and then they would hide a sack of weed in some kid's bag or whatever in the audience and a dog would just go.

• 53:03Speaker 02

Like a real bag of weed?

• 53:04Theo Von?

Yes, or something that the dog could smell. So I'm guessing it was.

• 53:07Speaker 02

  So just, okay.

• 53:08Theo Von?

Cause it was like, we put weed on one of the kids and all the kids would be like, you know?

• 53:13Speaker 02

And then they just stick a fucking German shepherd on the kid?

• 53:16Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 53:17Speaker 02

  Jesus, dude.

• 53:18Theo Von?

  Yeah, pretty awesome.

• 53:19Speaker 02

We, um, dude, there was some weird, there was some weird stuff in my.

• 53:24Theo Von?

  Yeah, dude, in Florida?

• 53:26Speaker 02

And every teacher's coach, every, every teacher in our high school was coached because they used to coach the basketball team or they could. I remember one dude, he coached the, it was like the debate team or something and you still, he was still coach.

• 53:38Theo Von?

Oh dude, yeah, they would just pick like whoever the lesbian teacher was at our school was also had to be the drama teacher for some reason like.

• 53:45Speaker 02

That was ours for a minute. Our softball coach lesbian ended up a couple of years after I graduated. She was having a relationship with like a sophomore.

• 53:56Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 53:58Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 53:59Theo Von?

  Yeah, it's unfortunate and that's Florida, that's, that's, I don't know what that is, but that's.

• 54:04Speaker 02

Well, a lot of the times it is Florida.

• 54:05Theo Von?

  It's Florida and that's softball.

• 54:07Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 54:08Theo Von?

I don't know if it is or not, but.

• 54:11Speaker 02

  But, yeah.

• 54:12Theo Von?

  There's a lot of inner.

• 54:13Speaker 02

Have you ever been down to Key West though? Key West is like my happy place.

• 54:17Theo Von?

  Is it?

• 54:17Speaker 02

Yeah, just killer live, some of the best, I think best live music in countries like there. Austin, obviously like Nashville, um, yeah, Austin or Key West, man, just killer music. You just, either you're walking around the whole time or, you know, if we go to a big group, everyone's just on these like little scooters. Every bar looks like it just went through a hurricane.

• 54:38Theo Von?

Yeah. I gotta go down there.

• 54:40Speaker 02

  So fun, dude.

• 54:42Theo Von?

I always hear Nick Swartson loves it down there.

• 54:44Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, he, he, he lived down there for, he was just supposed to go for like a couple of weeks or something. Stayed at this hotel for something for like months.

• 54:52Theo Von?

Yeah, he spent like almost a million.

• 54:53Speaker 02

  A shit ton of money.

• 54:54Theo Von?

I think like almost just under a million bucks.

• 54:55Speaker 02

That's hard in Key West too. Cause you will get the moisture still for like a quarter during happy hour.

• 55:02Theo Von?

  Oh dude.

• 55:02Speaker 02

I don't know how you fuck, you spent a million bucks actually, and he needs to write a book.

• 55:06Theo Von?

How to spend a million bucks.

• 55:07Speaker 02

Yeah, I'd spend a million bucks in Key West. Oh my god.

• 55:11Theo Von?

Dude, you like, he's a fucking John Daly of Key West, dude. Um.

• 55:16Speaker 02

What was I gonna fucking talk about?

• 55:20Theo Von?

I don't know. Oh dude, oh, it was the, uh, oh.

• 55:26Theo Von?

I feel like somebody's been blowing weed smoking here right now.

• 55:28Speaker 02

  John Daly, baby.

• 55:29Theo Von?

  But, um, SWAT, um, this.

• 55:32Speaker 02

  Students working against tobacco field.

• 55:34Theo Von?

  Yes.

• 55:34Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:35Theo Von?

  And.

• 55:35Speaker 02

Cause if they're not doing it.

• 55:37Theo Von?

  That's true.

• 55:38Speaker 02

  Tobacco's just running rampant.

• 55:41Theo Von?

It's like a Agatha Christie novel.

• 55:43Speaker 02

They're still, they're still rocking and rolling.

• 55:45Theo Von?

SWAT is Florida's statewide youth organization working to mobilize, educate, and equip.

• 55:50Speaker 02

Oh, it's specifically a Florida thing.

• 55:53Theo Von?

To revolt against and de-glamorize tobacco. Yep. Wow.

• 55:57Speaker 02

Wow, dude. Well, that makes, I thought it was like a national program.

• 56:02Theo Von?

  Yeah, I'd never heard.

• 56:02Speaker 02

But I guess we never did go on field trips.

• 56:04Theo Von?

Yeah, this is it. No, you, this was a, uh, this was an experimental program down there in the fucking south. Dude, there's four hundred, there's forty three hundred.

• 56:14Speaker 02

Eighty percent of high schoolers vape now.

• 56:16Theo Von?

  Yeah. Oh, yeah.

• 56:19Theo Von?

There's forty three hundred active youth though in the SWAT, uh, SWAT youth in the state of Florida. And so, uh, shout out to them. Um, we had this thing, so we had to build a float one time, it was for the homecoming parade.

• 56:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:32Theo Von?

And my buddy Patrick, we had to make like this tree, ours was like the tree of life or something or whatever. Or keep growing or something like that. And my buddy Patrick, he was gonna, um, we're like, dude, Patrick, you stay in the tree, stay in the middle. Light up a blunt in there and just. Blow smoke out of the, like if you blow enough smoke, some of it'll just, will keep a hole in the top of the tree. Some of it will leak out. So we're pushing this down the street and everybody will, uh, will, and nobody will know, but they'll be, you'll be in there to super high. And it's all like, you know.

• 57:05Speaker 02

Oh, you're saying, okay. So I was thinking like you cut a hole out of the trunk. So it's like his face and just like roasting blunts or something. But you're saying just a little hole just so he could breathe, but he was hotboxing this tree.

• 57:17Theo Von?

Well, we forgot about a breathing hole. We just thought, put him in the tree, like in the trunk of the tree. The trunk is fully built around him. It's like this whole paper mache and wire setup that's going to be on a float. And then there's this big kind of bulb atop of him, almost like a very small, um, water tower would be kind of look. And that is all adorned with green paper mache and everything. That's a big tree and they'll put a hole on top of that. So Patrick, you just stand in there and keep smoking blunts and some of the smoke will leak out the top. It'll be awesome. We'll love it.

• 57:45Speaker 02

And you'll be very fucking high, dude.

• 57:49Theo Von?

He was so fucking high, dude. It's like a two hour parade and you couldn't see any of the smoke coming out. It was just him like smoking countless black and mild blunts in this tree. And then we got him there, dude. Oh, he didn't, he couldn't go to school for one whole week.

• 58:06Theo Von?

He couldn't go to school for one whole week, dude. His mom had to stay home with him. He was, it was the most high person that we'd ever seen in our area.

• 58:16Theo Von?

  It was fun.

• 58:17Speaker 02

Couldn't go to school for a week.

• 58:18Theo Von?

And he hasn't been, he hasn't been the same since. He hasn't. He hasn't been the same. Um, what was something like, how long did you guys, how long did you guys, uh?

• 58:29Speaker 02

Patrick, it's gonna be awesome, dude. He's gonna sit there, he can smoke as much weed as he want, you know?

• 58:36Theo Von?

And sometimes you would, for the first like two blocks, you could hear him yell, can y'all see the smoke? But after that, there was no sound coming out of there. It was almost like.

• 58:45Speaker 02

He was probably dead. He probably died for a second.

• 58:48Theo Von?

Well, he was almost like when those kids got trapped in that mine, you know, after the second day, they couldn't hear anything.

• 58:52Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 58:55Speaker 05

When you're shooting a movie like that, like at this point, when you go into a film, like are there things you want to have on set that make your day easier? And then what's that shoot schedule like, like on a day to day basis? For somebody kind of at your level, like do you still have to shoot every single scene? Do they shoot around some stuff like what is it? What's the reality of that?

• 1:02:11Speaker 02

Yeah, I mean, I think I've been fortunate enough to work on some, you know, some great projects with some great actors. For the most part, some really incredible directors that wanted to be the first one there, last one to leave. I just think it's important that, you know, kind of right off the bat, people understand it's like, I'll be here for anything you need. Cause a lot of the time, you know, if you gotta maybe for the shot or whatever, the eye line's tight, they want you to work with just like a, you know, an X on the thing. And some people are really good working that way. For me, I have to. Feel the connection with whoever I'm working with.

• 1:02:50Speaker 02

And so for a bigger budget movie, sure, there's certain things that you can kind of build into your contract to make you as comfortable as possible. But at the end of the day, I don't really, I don't really give a shit. Man, I'm pretty low maintenance. It's just like whatever, whatever we need to do to make the best movie possible. Um, you know, I'm, I'm in, I'm fully in anything you need from me. I'm, I'm, I'm here. And also I think I approach film or just acting in general, like, um, I mean, I grew up loving, you know, I played sports. And every sport, you know, it was like team sports always, um, and playing music and that kind of, um, just being a link in the chain. Like to me, that's, you know, that, that's how it has to, to happen. So I enjoy, I enjoy that camaraderie. I enjoy that teamwork.

• 1:03:34Speaker 02

As I've moved up in my career, it's, I take it upon myself to really like lead from the front. You know, if I'm number one on the call sheet, like it's a, it's, and if I'm producing the thing, like it's important to me to know everybody's name and,

• 1:03:48Speaker 02

you know, just to feel like we're all, we're all kind of in this thing together. I think when you're making a movie and you're just kind of come out for your stuff, go back to your trailer.

• 1:03:58Speaker 02

It's fine and everybody works differently, but just for me, I need to really feel that kind of camaraderie.

• 1:04:04Theo Von?

  Part of the squad.

• 1:04:05Speaker 02

Yeah, part of the squad, man.

• 1:04:07Theo Von?

Yeah, it is so much fun. Like I even like being on a, being, cause the fact that something gets created really out of nothing, right? Like there's words get created and put onto a page and then you want to make sure there's enough.

• 1:04:19Speaker 02

I think writing is probably the hardest out of all of the, the disciplines. I can't imagine just staring at a blank page, you know, page one, scene one.

• 1:04:27Theo Von?

You don't start thinking about, you don't do that stuff?

• 1:04:29Speaker 02

  What, right?

• 1:04:30Theo Von?

Will you write a script or no?

• 1:04:31Speaker 02

  No, I'm, I, I, I think I'm better at.

• 1:04:37Speaker 02

When, um, you know, if writers already have an idea or I can make, I feel like I'm good at kind of collaborating within the scene work and framework of the script and I'll certainly

• 1:04:51Speaker 02

kind of help shape things 100%. I think most actors through improvisation or through, you know, talking with the writer absolutely inform, you know, the material to a good amount. Some scripts you don't really need to touch at all. But I think I'm better at coming in. I don't have the first idea, but I'm good at, okay, that's great. And now this. But also I truly believe in like best idea wins. And so when you work with a director who's really collaborative and whose ego isn't so precious to where they can take,

• 1:05:24Speaker 02

you know, inspiration from, you know, the people around them. I think that's, that's really beautiful. I think you have to feel collaborative. I think the only time I get upset when I'm filming is when I feel like I'm working with like a dictator. And that I don't feel comfortable to kind of speak, speak up about. I don't like closed minded people. Closed minded people to me, that's when I, I guess, I don't like, I really don't like authority figures. And I thought getting in the arts, like that's kind of the, that's a great path for me. Cause we're all, you know, it's collaborative medium in nature. But yeah, I just, I don't like when people lead with an iron fist too much.

• 1:05:59Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah, it's kind of crazy, dude. Um, what did I see? Uh, I'm trying to think of something else. Oh, one part of the movie that was interesting to me was, there was a moment where they were kind of, where she had chosen an eternity. So she chooses one of the men. But then like you can go look at archives, you can kind of go back into a museum of your life.

• 1:06:19Speaker 02

Yeah, that's a really interesting part of it.

• 1:06:22Theo Von?

Yeah, it was just neat to see like, like how that, it's just nice to see that if, if that hap- like, if we pass away, which you are a believer of, that, that we get to go through almost like this zoo where there's different exhibits of scenes from your life that meant something.

• 1:06:40Speaker 02

Yeah, your memories. You know, I think people, like that term like core memories now is something that's kind of become in vogue.

• 1:06:47Theo Von?

Yeah, that was kind of fantastical. Uh, but that was one thing that I thought was pretty dope about it. Um, oh, what about a heist movie, dude? I just saw this heist? See if you can see-

• 1:06:57Speaker 02

How about that Lou- the Louvre?

• 1:06:58Theo Von?

  That's it, bro.

• 1:06:59Speaker 02

I mean, that's the, I mean, that wasn't a movie. That's the friggin news, dude. But that is wild. I mean-

• 1:07:06Theo Von?

How the Louvre jewelry heist unfolded.

• 1:07:09Speaker 06

On the south side. The heist took a matter of minutes.

• 1:07:13Theo Von?

  Bridge crane.

• 1:07:13Speaker 06

Here's how it happened. At nine thirty on Sunday, four individuals arrived on scooters and a truck that had a mechanical ladder attached to the back of it. Two of them ascended to the balcony and used power tools to carve into the outside window.

• 1:07:29Speaker 02

It's crazy, none of that. I mean, I have alarms on my windows if something opens.

• 1:07:33Speaker 06

They burst inside the Apollo gallery that houses all of the Louvre's special royal jewels and used their saws to break into two of those cases. In the meantime, we've been told that the security guards really quickly brought people out of that room. This very wing of the Louvre also contains the Mona Lisa, so it's the most sort of precious things in France are there, but only seventy-five percent of the rooms have security cameras in them. Four minutes later, they emerged with eight precious items, including tiara, necklaces, a beautiful brooch, and a crown.

• 1:08:16Theo Von?

  How'd they get away, Nick?

• 1:08:17Speaker 06

  That had been worn by.

• 1:08:20Speaker 07

They escaped out the window and they took off on scooters that they had planted.

• 1:08:24Theo Von?

Dude, that seems like almost it would be.

• 1:08:27Speaker 02

You just think like more, more security.

• 1:08:30Theo Von?

It's like what you and I would decide. Like two guys would decide like, hey, let's go get the Louvre.

• 1:08:34Speaker 02

Let's, let's steal that, uh, steal that crown.

• 1:08:37Theo Von?

Yeah. Oh, my wife is upset. She doesn't have a crown or whatever.

• 1:08:40Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:08:41Theo Von?

And then you're like, all right, let me see how I can figure it out.

• 1:08:44Speaker 02

  Give us nine minutes.

• 1:08:47Speaker 02

No, but also it's like, so what then they sell this, like, do they take it apart and sell it on the black market? Do they just need to hold on to it until, you know, like after generation, generation and then try and.

• 1:08:59Theo Von?

And then say it just popped up somewhere?

• 1:09:00Speaker 02

  Yeah, I don't know.

• 1:09:01Theo Von?

How do you get rid of something like that? Oh, it's almost pretty magical that they were able to do it.

• 1:09:06Speaker 02

But they, I mean, I know, I think it's, yeah, I mean, it certainly gives, um, you know, truth to these, these, these heist movies and stuff. You're like, ah, no way. It's like, well, you know, yeah, you can do it with just a little saw.

• 1:09:18Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:19Speaker 02

Actually, and a scooter. You don't even need like switching identities and shit. It's like, no, but that's what I was wondering. When the dude's in there like banging his, like, just like carving through this glass. Nobody it's like, it's because obviously it was full of people.

• 1:09:32Theo Von?

  Hey, quiet down.

• 1:09:35Speaker 02

Yeah, no, that's incredible to me.

• 1:09:38Theo Von?

Hey, quiet, quiet down. I can't hear the guided tour over here. Dude, that's crazy, bro. And the Mona Lisa, dude, Mo Lisa, that looks more like a dude, I think.

• 1:09:47Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:09:48Theo Von?

  But, uh.

• 1:09:49Speaker 02

  Yeah, that was stolen.

• 1:09:50Theo Von?

  It was stolen?

• 1:09:51Speaker 02

At one point. Not in this, but I think back in the, it's like the seventies or something, Mona Lisa was stolen.

• 1:09:57Theo Von?

I wonder if it was really stolen or somebody faked having, see, this is what I think happens sometimes. These museums fake having stuff stolen to get people to come to the museum or to add like texture and story to their place.

• 1:10:11Theo Von?

  Yes, the Mona Lisa.

• 1:10:11Speaker 02

  Yeah, nineteen eleven.

• 1:10:12Theo Von?

Yes, the Mona Lisa was stolen in nineteen eleven.

• 1:10:14Speaker 02

From the Louvre. The Louvre needs to button up, dude. The Louvre is like, what are you guys doing? No wonder you keep getting robbed. It's like, obviously not that hard.

• 1:10:24Theo Von?

Dude, it's a fucking halfway house for art, dude. They gotta figure this shit out, dude. He disguised.

• 1:10:30Speaker 02

Got a ring camera, my guy. Like, what are you doing?

• 1:10:33Theo Von?

He disguised himself. He disguised himself as a museum employee, hid overnight inside the museum. That's the move. And took the painting the next morning by removing it from its frame and concealing it under his smock. The theft was not discovered until the following day and the painting was, uh, hidden in Perugia's apartment in Paris during that time. Dude, when I was, when I was growing up.

• 1:10:55Speaker 02

You can't tell anybody about it.

• 1:10:57Theo Von?

  Right.

• 1:10:57Speaker 02

  You know what I mean?

• 1:10:59Theo Von?

  Yeah, you can't even get.

• 1:11:00Speaker 02

You can't put it on display. I have no, I really don't know how you move this stuff.

• 1:11:04Theo Von?

And you get high and definitely tell somebody.

• 1:11:06Speaker 02

Oh, for sure. For sure. That's how, I mean, that's kind of usually how they end up catching.

• 1:11:10Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:10Speaker 02

You know, criminals on that most wonderful list. Like, they, they slip up, they tell somebody something.

• 1:11:16Theo Von?

Bro, I'm so high right now. Don't tell anybody.

• 1:11:18Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:11:19Theo Von?

But I murdered a couple of people.

• 1:11:21Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, great. Yo, wild. Yeah. Remember that shit I told you last night? Like, I was just, man, we were fucked up.

• 1:11:28Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:11:29Speaker 02

Yeah, we were fucked up. You said you murdered someone. I said I did, like, yeah.

• 1:11:35Theo Von?

  We were both just joking.

• 1:11:36Speaker 02

  Yeah, it was a goof.

• 1:11:37Theo Von?

Yeah, that was a, that was a goof. What a, you've had so many interesting experiences, you got to work with Tom Cruise, was that pretty fascinating? Did you get to meet him before you got to work with him? And sorry if some of this seems like a little bit petty, but I don't know anybody that ever met him.

• 1:11:52Speaker 02

Oh, yeah, no, Tom, I mean, yeah, Tom's, Tom's great. I flew, it was this, I'd worked with that director before. I had done two movies with him, I think at that point. Oh, no, I had done one movie with him at that point. But yeah, I mean, I flew, I had to audition for it. I think there was, they were down to like a couple of guys. Flew and, you know, did a, yeah, audition with Tom. He's, he's like, he's very disarming. I mean, I, but for some reason, I didn't feel like I was going to be nervous around him. I have like, obviously an immense amount of respect for the guy. But he's, he's such like a consummate professional and he is, he's one of our great, great actors. And his filmography, I think, if you attach commercial and critical, I think this run

• 1:12:37Speaker 02

that he's, you know, has went on multiple times through his career is going to be very hard to, to touch. But yeah, he's, he really cares about the work and he labors over, he labors over the script. I mean, we would go, we would meet, we would have a meeting or filming, he's like, all right, we're going to meet, we're going to talk about, you know, this scene that exists on page like 50 or something. But you always start page one, scene one, and you start from the very beginning. And then three hours later, when we've had all these side conversations about just different parts of the script, by the time you get to the scene you met, were there to meet about, it's like, ah, well, it's time to go, we'll, we'll meet tomorrow. But nobody works harder. Uh, he knows everybody's name. Uh, he's first one in, last one to leave.

• 1:13:18Speaker 02

Uh, but that, that movie, I mean, that movie, yeah, that movie took a, a long time, uh, to make. Everybody was so committed and also like you have to work in part and parcel and in concert with the Navy. You know, I mean, Navy doesn't stop being the Navy. So if we're filming on a carrier, we're filming it, you know, in Top Gun, or we're filming all these places, these guys are actively, you know, training, um, nonstop, so.

• 1:13:43Speaker 02

Yeah, it was a lot. It was a lot to kind of work out.

• 1:13:46Theo Von?

Yeah. So you're having to like work at like in between certain days while they're doing stuff or at night while they're?

• 1:13:51Speaker 02

Yeah, like I remember when we were on the carrier, we could, maybe we had like, you know, a two hour window for something to be up on on the top deck. But yeah, that was, yeah, we're on the carrier for two weeks. I remember I walked by this one sailor. That's like one of my first few days being there. And even though you're on this giant carrier, like you feel like you're on a submarine. Because the hallways are very cramped. Everything is metal. There's nothing for for comfort. There's nothing extraneous. Like that is an active carrier. It's it's a wartime, you know, carrier. But it's very, it's very, it's a weapon. I mean, we're launching, you know, aircraft from it.

• 1:14:31Speaker 02

And so, but when you're walking around, I mean, all of the hallway, everything is so tight, even though it's this massive vessel. And I walked by this one sailor and I was like, hey, I was like, living the dream, huh? And he just turns to me and he goes, nightmares are also dreams. And he said it's so cold. I was like, that is, we're on the Theodore Roosevelt.

• 1:14:53Speaker 02

But no, I just, I don't know. I have so much.

• 1:14:57Speaker 02

Nightmares are also dreams. Yeah, because I mean,

• 1:15:00Theo Von?

  That's a good.

• 1:15:01Speaker 02

Depending on what your job is on that carrier, I mean, your job placement, you might be seven or eight, you know, decks below. And, you know, just the nature of operations sometime, like you're kind of, that's kind of your your territory. Oh, yeah, absolutely, man.

• 1:15:20Theo Von?

Do you have so much respect for?

• 1:15:23Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:15:24Theo Von?

  When you think of the.

• 1:15:24Speaker 02

  Terrorist best.

• 1:15:26Theo Von?

What people go through. We're trying to maybe have Gary Sinise come on. I know he's.

• 1:15:28Speaker 02

He is, there's nobody that's done more.

• 1:15:31Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:31Speaker 02

That guy is, it's truly been his like life's mission. Yeah, he's fantastic.

• 1:15:37Theo Von?

  To support veterans.

• 1:15:37Speaker 02

Yeah, absolutely. Because it's not like the VA, like, because I did this movie about guys coming home from wars called Thank You First Service, and it was based on this book. Um, real guys and that's kind of what you learn. It's like the VA is not broken. It's just overwhelmed. Um, and so, you know, and for guys to kind of unpack. And our writer director was telling me, he's like, you know, Miles, we've known how to send guys to war, men and women to war for centuries. Since the beginning of time, we've known how to create a soldier, but we still don't really know how to bring them back. Um, and it is, it's really, it's really complicated. Those programs that are, you know, working for, you know, nonprofit, they can only take so many people.

• 1:16:20Speaker 02

  Funding is really important. Um.

• 1:16:23Theo Von?

And the use of people. Sorry, go on.

• 1:16:25Speaker 02

No, I was just saying, it's, it's really, it's really tough. And also just with mental health in general. The amount of training that it takes for somebody to be able to, um, appropriately deal with someone with, you know, if it's PTSD, if it's bipolar, if it's schizophrenia, whatever it is, it takes a really, uh, takes a long time to train somebody. Um, and to be able to get them to sit with the person and be able to potentially, you know, change their minds a little bit, somebody that they trust, somebody who has those skills, um, to deal with it. It's very tough. Um. And yeah, that's actually something I'm, uh, yeah, I have a lot of advocacy for. I think.

• 1:17:11Speaker 02

And also when you talk to people, I think most, I think a lot of people have somebody, you know, in their family or with friends that are, you know, dealt with that. And it's, it's, it's just, yeah, it's really tough. Um, I think I have, yeah, just immense amount of empathy. And that stuff's always, you know, it's more or less, it always kind of, some traumatic event happened at some age and that leads to, um, you know, these, these mental health issues.

• 1:17:38Theo Von?

Yeah, that's such a great statement. We don't know how to bring these people home. And then how much val- like, you know, even at a governmental level, how much value, you know, should there be just as much of a training and untraining program? You know, as much as you're training people for military and for combat, should there be just as much of an untraining?

• 1:17:54Speaker 02

And also these guys, you know, the guys that they go to war with, those are the guys that understand more than anybody what they went through, but then, you know, they go from being in, you know, battalion and, you know, being those guys, and then they come home and everybody kind of disperses and, you know, it's, uh, yeah, it's, it's tough.

• 1:18:11Theo Von?

Well, it's like you were saying earlier, just like being able to be part of a group and have that, you know?

• 1:18:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:18:14Theo Von?

And then suddenly it's different, or suddenly even if you're-

• 1:18:16Speaker 02

  Shared life experience.

• 1:18:17Theo Von?

You're put on leave or something because you're a mental condition, then that's got to be even scarier because now, are you maybe struggling, but also you're away from your group, right?

• 1:18:26Speaker 02

And also each, like, each, um, you know, depending on what job you're going for in the military, you know, infantry, different, uh, branches, um, you know, you need, it's a numbers game. We need numbers, um, at all times. And so some of these, you know, some of the bootcamps are, you know, X amount of weeks, and it's like, here you go, here's a gun, and, um, when you get more kind of, I guess, uh, tier one, um-

• 1:18:52Theo Von?

  Senior?

• 1:18:53Speaker 02

Yeah, where I'm saying, like, our special forces guys, I mean, those, those guys have been through, you know, uh, a lot of training and they're, they're, you're usually not in those groups until you're, you know, you're certainly not 18, um, as a Navy SEAL. It takes, you know-

• 1:19:07Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:08Speaker 02

  A couple of years.

• 1:19:09Theo Von?

Yeah, it's been, um, it was, I was, I went to this, to this football game last week, I went to the Vanderbilt football game and there were two-

• 1:19:16Speaker 02

  Did you go to Vandy?

• 1:19:17Theo Von?

I didn't, but they just happened to be in Nashville and I became buddies with, uh, um, their quarterback and a couple-

• 1:19:23Speaker 02

  That quarterback's the real deal.

• 1:19:24Theo Von?

He's, yeah, bro, he's such a great guy. You would love him, dude.

• 1:19:27Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:19:27Theo Von?

He's come, we went to UFC fight together, actually. You weren't at that, weren't at that one.

• 1:19:31Speaker 02

Um- I've been out of the mix for a little bit just because of the house stuff, but-

• 1:19:35Theo Von?

Seven months ago, maybe? I don't remember which one it was. Uh, I can't even remember.

• 1:19:39Speaker 02

  How great are those?

• 1:19:41Theo Von?

  It's the best.

• 1:19:42Speaker 02

Well dude, you know, at the end of the day, they're gonna fight.

• 1:19:45Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:45Speaker 02

And there's just, and the time in between is great. You just hang for a little chat and then it's just, when that music comes on, Forever's coming in, just the crowd. I think Madison Square Garden especially.

• 1:19:55Theo Von?

  That's good.

• 1:19:56Speaker 02

You know, or I imagine you were at some of those Connor fights during his heyday.

• 1:20:00Theo Von?

I got to go to one with him and Dustin, that was it. But when he came out, it was just crazy.

• 1:20:05Speaker 02

I think I saw you, yeah, I saw you at that one.

• 1:20:06Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:07Speaker 02

Yeah, I know Dustin's your guy. It's a shame when that kinda generation, you're on out to the next group of fighters, but yeah, Dustin's, he's the man.

• 1:20:15Theo Von?

They have so many great guys, but also being at those events is so much fun. And you also realize that you are nothing. Like, cause there's some badasses coming out. They, it's like, no matter if you think you're cool or not, you were sitting there looking in awe at some warriors, you know? That when it comes down to it, like, they're the P.

• 1:20:33Speaker 02

It's one on one. It's one on one. You know what I mean?

• 1:20:36Theo Von?

And it's just like such a test of will and like, and man or woman and like, what do you, like, it makes you ask yourself a lot of things. It's, yeah, I find that whole world's pretty fascinating.

• 1:20:47Speaker 02

I even remember in high school, man, like, you know, I'd be, you know, I played baseball and,

• 1:20:52Theo Von?

Were you pretty good in high school?

• 1:20:53Speaker 02

I was, yeah. No, I pitched up until, I guess it took me a minute to hit my growth spurt. But I was like, you know, stud, you know, kinda early years and then,

• 1:21:03Theo Von?

  Oh, there's probably.

• 1:21:04Speaker 02

But I was saying, you know, even with the football players, like, the wrestlers, when you looked at the wrestlers' condition compared to the football players, like, you couldn't even compare. Like, a lot of my buddies were wrestlers. They're cutting 10, 12 pounds in high school. Like, to have that discipline at 15 to be like, now I'm skipping lunch, I gotta, you know, I gotta sweat, I gotta do a sauna suit or just,

• 1:21:22Theo Von?

  Yeah, it'd be crazy.

• 1:21:23Speaker 02

The amount of discipline for those guys.

• 1:21:24Theo Von?

We've been driving down the, I remember driving through my neighborhood and my buddy Paul would literally be running, and this is when we didn't even know we had a wrestling team at our school, right? I think it was like the first year they started. He'd be running down the street in a bunch of trash bags and shit, like, oh my god, like, he did something bad at home or whatever. Like, we just didn't know what had happened.

• 1:21:41Speaker 02

  Like, a punishment. That's it. It's, I mean.

• 1:21:43Theo Von?

  It was crazy.

• 1:21:44Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:21:45Theo Von?

  But yeah, dude.

• 1:21:48Theo Von?

Uh, do you start to think like, okay, so now you have like, kind of like a filmography of your own work? I don't know if that's the right term, but.

• 1:21:54Speaker 02

  That's the right word.

• 1:21:54Theo Von?

Um, do you start to think, okay, this is a genre I would like to do? Or I loved that so much, I'd like to find a more unique way to do that? Like, is that something that an actor starts to think about? Uh, how do you start to think about? Do you start to think about a little bit of like, how many movies you wanna do? Or like, what kind of things come into your mind? Like, at your kind of juncture in your career? Uh. As far as the work goes?

• 1:22:20Speaker 02

Yeah, I think when I first started out, and I guess when I was in college and be doing different scenes and stuff in class, I always wanted to, like, I enjoyed drama as much as I, you know, enjoyed comedy. I actually kind of started out when I was in high school. Um, you know, everybody kind of knew me as like the class clown, and I would play like the comedic relief in plays and stuff. And then I remember doing this very serious monologue, and the whole class just started laughing. Like, they couldn't take me seriously. And I remember that pissed me off, cuz I was like, oh, I've lost my audience. Like, they're, I, they just.

• 1:22:56Theo Von?

Oh, they're locked into that I'm a clown?

• 1:22:58Speaker 02

Yeah, and so they, like, I, I was like, oh, shit, okay. I, okay, now I need to kind of work on this other stuff. Uh, I was like, cuz like, nobody, I didn't wanna like not be taken, you know, seriously for something. Um, but so I knew starting out, like, I always, I had an appetite. I think that's really what it comes down, it's like, what are your interests? So I've done movies with music. I grew up playing a bunch of instruments. I haven't done a sports movie yet, love sports, uh, military, my family, my friends. I've done some of that, so I've done like a good amount, like, blue collar stuff. Um, I like that. But I think as far as the genre goes, e- every once in a while, yeah, you'll watch a film. Or maybe it's a certain director who works in a certain genre, you're like, yeah, I would love to do that.

• 1:23:41Speaker 02

Um, but I think, yeah, it really just comes down to like taste and interest. I think I have a pretty wide, um, range of, of interests. And I don't really necessarily care what the genre is, as long as it just feels authentic to me.

• 1:23:58Theo Von?

  Can you feel that?

• 1:23:58Speaker 02

So you can make a bad version of any genre.

• 1:24:00Theo Von?

  Ah.

• 1:24:01Speaker 02

  Um.

• 1:24:02Theo Von?

Yeah, and I guess you can just feel that when you read the script, you're like, I can fucking see this, I can figure this out?

• 1:24:06Speaker 02

Yeah, I, I think I've been fortunate enough to, now, in the beginning of. Of most careers, right? People are like, oh, why'd you do that? And it's like, yo, you thought I had like multiple options? Like, what are you talking about? Like, no, dude, you're just trying to work professionally. Like, if you can pay your bills. And it's tough, man. You know how many, like, you're starting out. It kinda, I think, like, in your twenties, there's a lot of actors. Kind of, we can all play teenagers, this, that, whatever. And when you get older, it's like your audience, you know, wants to grow with you. You gotta kind of mature with them. You know, it's like, I imagine a lot of my fans now have, like, kids and stuff. Um, you know, and that's great. And so I just try to, um, I don't know.

• 1:24:49Speaker 02

Yeah, I think your best asset would be, I guess, when you read a script. If I think it's good, um, is it? And for the most part, I've kind of just went with my instincts and gut. But for the most part, a lot of my career has been, you know, a director's got to take a chance on you. Like, I played this boxer, Vinnie Pazienza.

• 1:25:08Theo Von?

My buddy just sent me a link to it. I haven't watched it yet.

• 1:25:10Speaker 02

Yeah, Bleed for this. That's how I met Dana White, because Vinnie's like Dana's favorite boxer of all time. And he loved the movie, loved the movie. So that's how I got plugged in UFC early on.

• 1:25:19Theo Von?

My buddy just sent me this yesterday.

• 1:25:20Speaker 02

He just got in the boxing Hall of Fame, Vinnie. Shout out, Vinnie.

• 1:25:23Theo Von?

  Oh, he did?

• 1:25:23Speaker 02

  But he's a, yeah, he's, he's just a dog.

• 1:25:26Theo Von?

  Vinnie Pazienza?

• 1:25:26Speaker 02

Vinnie Pazienza, the Pasmanian Devil. But, um, dude.

• 1:25:31Theo Von?

Oh, look at him. That's him?

• 1:25:33Speaker 02

Yeah, so he broke his, so he was, uh, he had won some titles early. And then he was kind of, the promoters kind of thought he was on the way out.

• 1:25:41Theo Von?

  You played him?

• 1:25:42Speaker 02

Yeah, so I had like, yeah, so there's footage of him, I mean, with that halo on. Now, meanwhile, if you, if you, you know, mess up, more or less, with that halo on, you're gonna be paralyzed for life. And there's video of him, like, you know, doing some pretty sick rope work with that halo on, just working out like a madman.

• 1:26:02Speaker 02

I don't want to give it away, but it's considered like, um, you know, just one of sports all time great comebacks. Yeah, the only movie I had come out like right before that, I was like in fat, or not fat, but

• 1:26:15Speaker 02

pudgy friend shape, you know what I mean? Like, I was like, I don't need a six pack, that's just, that's BS, man, like, you need a six pack if you can't hold their attention with your acting, I mean, just all bullshit. I was thinking when I was 25 and I used to not like, I was like, that dude's ripped, he can't act.

• 1:26:33Theo Von?

Dang dude. Yeah, there's so many great actors out there. I think it's so, it's just fascinating to watch somebody just be able to create, to be able to carry a story, right? And just be like an instrument, just to be, uh, like a word on a page, you know?

• 1:26:48Speaker 02

Well, it's, you know, it's like we're, we're shining a mirror up to, you know, society, really, you're just kind of, the great actors, right? You, you watch them and you obviously believe what they're doing, but then it makes you feel about, you know, your own life and so it's beautiful. They just really understand kind of the, the human condition, human experience. I think, cause a lot of young actors will ask for like, what do you think's like so important, this and that? I say, I, I go, I think, obviously start from the inside, we're from the inside out and I think just two abilities or curiosities that will really age you is like, you know, just empathy. If you're somebody who just, you know, sees so many different, you know, way of life and,

• 1:27:33Speaker 02

you can feel for somebody other than yourself and, and then your curiosity. Um, I think that's what's lent me to a lot of, um, projects I've, I've ended up doing just because I think I've always had a, just high level of curiosity and empathy for, for other people.

• 1:27:49Theo Von?

Where do you think that comes from for you?

• 1:27:52Speaker 02

Uh, I think just, yeah, the, I don't know, I guess the way I was raised, we did, we moved around a lot. Well, there was my family, like on my mom's side, there was a lot of trouble. Like my grandma, she's, she, she's, she buried all of her kids, but, but one, um, and a lot of them died very young.

• 1:28:11Speaker 02

And I think I come from, you know, a certain kind of stock, uh, that

• 1:28:18Speaker 02

And then my, you know, my uncle, he was a quadriplegic from the time he was like seventeen. So my entire life, spending a lot of time in like nursing homes and um, you know, those kind of environments that can be fairly traumatizing for a young kid to just hearing like beeps and people wandering around with, you know, maybe dementia, Alzheimer's and it can be

• 1:28:35Theo Von?

  scary.

• 1:28:37Speaker 02

And they're usually not the most well lit places, but we, you know, we're constantly kind of in those in environments, you know, and you know, feeding him at, you know, you know, meals and I don't know, just different things like that. I think.

• 1:28:50Theo Von?

You said wanting to take care of your grandmother whenever you, uh, you know, when you guys' house went through that trauma and stuff like that. Yeah, I could see that, I guess.

• 1:28:57Speaker 02

And I moved around a lot. Like I lived in like five states by the time I was twelve.

• 1:29:01Theo Von?

  Oh, God.

• 1:29:02Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:29:02Theo Von?

So you have to be willing to open yourself up to people because you gotta be liked, you gotta be accepted, you gotta be, you gotta fit in, you gotta find a way.

• 1:29:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:29:10Theo Von?

Especially as a kid. That's harder for a kid.

• 1:29:14Speaker 02

Yeah, I think it was easier. Well, yeah, I, well, certainly kind of, it's all a part of the, I think how our personalities develop. Certain things happen in childhood, right? That's.

• 1:29:24Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:25Speaker 02

You can dig deep to figure out, oh, that's why I am like, that's why I.

• 1:29:29Theo Von?

But it is though, I think for a kid to move to a new place, that's a lot, you know?

• 1:29:32Speaker 02

Yeah. I told my parents when we first moved to Florida from South Jersey, I was like, I was like, uh, cause I really loved South Jersey and I was just like, I'm gonna paint my walls black. I'm gonna be a goth. You're gonna be embarrassed by me. I'm gonna wear Marilyn Manson shirts when your friends come over. Like.

• 1:29:46Theo Von?

Yeah. Bro, one of my favorite friends, one of my favorite friends.

• 1:29:51Speaker 02

No, that's it. Just, I'm just thinking back of myself like, paint my walls black and uh.

• 1:29:57Theo Von?

I'm gonna paint my fucking ceiling fan black. Has anybody ever even fucking done that? It's just gonna make black air in the room.

• 1:30:04Speaker 02

  Hell, yeah.

• 1:30:04Theo Von?

Dude, I, uh, my buddy Jeff, dude, he was, he was hilarious. We would go over to his house. And I've told this part of the story before, but um, we would, I'd go, we'd all go outside and get high and then I would come in the house and I would, I would come in before everybody. I would tell um, his dad that they were high, right?

• 1:30:25Speaker 02

  You fucking asshole.

• 1:30:27Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:30:27Speaker 02

Oh, my God. Just to like, save yourself.

• 1:30:31Theo Von?

Just because here's what I love. I loved.

• 1:30:34Speaker 02

  You were high with him.

• 1:30:34Theo Von?

Oh, yeah, I was high. I didn't tell him that part.

• 1:30:36Speaker 02

No, that's what I'm saying, yeah.

• 1:30:37Theo Von?

But I would say that they were high and they were seeming, some of the behaviors they'd have been doing, it seemed a little zest or whatever. Someone throwing a little nugget like that and you could fucking kind of hear his fucking.

• 1:30:46Speaker 02

Put a cigarette out in the lizard.

• 1:30:49Theo Von?

You'd see him fucking, yeah. Yeah, yeah, he'd put a cigarette out. He just, that energy took over, dude. If he thought like his, if kids were being high and zesty, it scared him a little. But anyway, then I would sit in there and wait and they would come in. And he would just be looking at him and they would, it was always like, do not tell my dad I'm fucking high. Like, don't worry. And just seeing the dad fucking fake her mouth, bro. I would, I would lay there in the other room crying of laughter, just knowing that.

• 1:31:17Speaker 02

  They're about to get beat.

• 1:31:18Theo Von?

Yes, knowing that this whole scenario had been created.

• 1:31:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:31:21Theo Von?

But my buddy Jeff, dude, he had this like anger sometimes and he uh, would go play that song. He had one CD and it was that uh, song. You gotta keep them separated.

• 1:31:31Speaker 02

Yeah, that's offspring. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 1:31:34Theo Von?

He would go in his room, he would beat the drywall out of his room and then every year for Christmas, his parents would redo the drywall. That was his Christmas present every year. It's fucking sick.

• 1:31:43Speaker 02

I had a buddy like that and then uh, he ended up kind of working in a construction and so now he.

• 1:31:51Speaker 02

Like even as an adult, some shit, whatever, fucking kick a hole in his wall, but then he's patching it himself, like, you know what I mean?

• 1:31:58Theo Von?

Yeah, dude. And Jeff is in the military too, dude. Shout out Jeff. Uh, and shout out the uh, the least favorite singer of Offspring. He came up to a show one time and I told him that story and I'd waited my whole life to tell him that story.

• 1:32:10Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:32:11Theo Von?

I was like, dude, we had so much fun. Um, and my, yeah, we just had so much fun, dude. Fuck those ages.

• 1:32:17Speaker 02

I think that's what's nice growing up, like in the town. I grew up in such a small town. It's like. Um, yeah, I mean, our, if we skipped school, it was to like go float down the river. And we would go to the Walmart and then, you know, usually it started out just, you know, you're buying air mattress for a couple bucks. Um, but yeah, you're just sitting in the Walmart, looking around like, you know, Benjamin Franklin, like, all right, well, you know, what do you think we can get to float? And I remember one time we got this like eight foot by four foot kids, like swimming pool. We fit like six dudes in there and a cooler beer in the middle and, you know, push off a little bit. Okay. Yeah, we're going. It's great. I love that. Yeah.

• 1:32:50Theo Von?

I know. I miss, I, I, of course you miss it, but yeah, I, I just like, that kind of stuff was so much fun. When the world, when everything felt so new and the world didn't, it felt big in some ways, but it, but your view was so concise, kind of.

• 1:33:06Speaker 02

Well, cause you're not, you're typically not jaded. You know, at that, at that, at that point, that's what I noticed when I.

• 1:33:14Theo Von?

You just have to eat and lie to your parents.

• 1:33:15Speaker 02

When I've shot, when I've shot movies in some, uh, you know, underprivileged areas. Uh, I mean, I'll see these kids playing in what you would basically describe as like a landfill and they're so happy. And they're just kicking around trash like it's a soccer ball. You just realize like children, like for the most part are innately happy. They don't know what else. Especially where we were at. It's like, they don't know what else out there. They don't know how we're, you know, living, how people are living in other parts of the, the world. It's really, it's like, it's a, um, it's, it's touching and it's, it's also, you know, it's very sweet and, but it's, I always, whenever a kid gets kind of their childhood

• 1:33:55Speaker 02

taken away from them too early, or they have to become an adult too early, that's, that's tough. It's like, no, these like, this was the time. You know, if you just be a kid.

• 1:34:05Theo Von?

Yeah. Yeah. You think that that would be auto, like that, that, that would be kind of guaranteed, you know? Maybe one day it will be, maybe that's where we're all headed.

• 1:34:14Speaker 02

No, it's tough, man. It's like, I, you know, I know, uh, you know, some people, you know, adult, adulting, adult life's, uh, you know, really tough for them. And because it's tough on them, their, their kid, you know? A lot of time is handed a little more, I think, responsibility or even just emotional.

• 1:34:33Theo Von?

Yeah. Stuff they shouldn't have to think about, that sort of thing. That's the craziest. Dude, I know a guy who used to wake his kids up and get them to pee for him so he could go do drug tests.

• 1:34:41Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:34:42Theo Von?

They ran a snow cone staying in our town. I'll probably take that part out. We don't have a lot of snow cones staying in our town, so. People know.

• 1:34:50Speaker 02

I gotta watch it, because that's like my town. It's just, yeah.

• 1:34:53Theo Von?

Um, anything else you want to tell us about the film? Any reason like why you believe like, or was there anything like about it that resonated with you after it? After having watched it? Did you give notes on the edits? Just or anything like, um, I don't know.

• 1:35:10Speaker 02

Yeah, I just, I just think, because we had our, you know, first premiere up in Toronto and it was just really wonderful after the film, like how many people, like you said, because it does, it just really makes you think about your own kind of uh, mortality and loved ones, but people really wanted to, I mean, for me, those are my favorite movies where you're, you're, you know, leaves you really thinking. Um, but I think it's, it's just really, it's a really funny movie. I think it's really sweet and sincere and all of Kelly's girls were, were crying.

• 1:35:41Theo Von?

Yeah, it's very sweet. It's not like too heavy. I mean, there's some moments that are.

• 1:35:45Speaker 02

You're dealing with heavy, I mean, well, you're dealing with something that's maybe inevitable or not, based on kind of what you're taking supplements wise and how you take care of, take care of the dope, Joe, brother.

• 1:35:58Speaker 02

But it is, it's just, I was just, my wife says her, her favorite film that, that I've ever been in her favorite film, maybe of the last like, you know, however long I, and also I feel like it's.

• 1:36:08Theo Von?

  That's pretty sweet, huh?

• 1:36:09Speaker 02

I think it's a movie that, um, I think it can, I think it fits with kind of the, the classic romantic comedies that are more character driven. Um, and, uh, yeah, I'm excited, I'm, I'm just really excited for, for people to see it.

• 1:36:26Theo Von?

And is it coming out in streaming? Is it coming out in theaters?

• 1:36:28Speaker 02

No, so it comes out in theaters nationwide, uh, like Thanksgiving.

• 1:36:32Theo Von?

  Oh, sweet.

• 1:36:33Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, so a great holiday, uh, film, take your, your mom, your grandma, dad, your girl, whatever.

• 1:36:40Theo Von?

Yeah, I think anybody, a whole family could go see it. I think it's that kind of thing. It's certainly that and, uh, yeah, I do think some of those questions, it kind, yeah, it made me feel a little bit more upbeat. Yeah, it's just like, um, I don't know.

• 1:36:52Theo Von?

It's, it was something that, it's certainly something that I hadn't seen before.

• 1:36:56Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:36:57Theo Von?

And I thought that was, uh, it was very creative. It was very creative. Um, and then when you're thinking about love, you're thinking about the afterlife, you're thinking about the choices that we make and stuff like that. You know, it made me a little mournful that ever, like there's some moments you never get to, it's like, oh, I, you know, like you'll start to think, oh, I didn't have that high school love that lasts forever. But then it's like, but that couldn't even have been a reality in my life. It never would have fit in, right? But it was just, it's just interesting to kind of think about things like that. Um, you know, I like, I like thinking about matters of the heart and stuff like that. Uh. Oh, the last thing I was gonna tell you. So, yeah, I went to the venerable game, but I saw these two, there was two kids there. And they were there with their dad and their dad had just gotten back from service. He was in, uh, Qatar and he, and right when I saw the kids like,

• 1:37:38Theo Von?

"Oh dude, my dad saw you perform in Qatar." I went over there and did just a, um, a thing for the military, like.

• 1:37:45Speaker 02

Was it through USO or something different?

• 1:37:47Theo Von?

No, it was like they were doing like, uh.

• 1:37:50Speaker 02

  Something for troops, something.

• 1:37:52Theo Von?

The president was doing something over there and they were doing some troops thing, but, um, but anyway, it was just, they're like, "Oh dude, our dad." And you could just tell, like, I was like, "Oh, how long were you there for?" He's like, "I was there for a year." And it was just like, I don't know, it was just interesting to see this moment. And I was, I was like, "Are you guys, dad, you're glad, are you, are you guys glad your dad is home?" You know, and you could just see like, I don't know, it just, you just see the, some of the sacrifice. It was just a moment that I had to witness, like, kind of firsthand, a little bit of like the sacrifice that,

• 1:38:18Speaker 02

  Yeah, absolutely.

• 1:38:19Theo Von?

That sons deal with, that fathers deal with, that people deal with to keep our country safe. And, uh, yeah, it's just touching, man.

• 1:38:25Speaker 02

Yeah, this guy, the guy that I played in, uh, Thank You For Service, um, Andrew, uh, Adam Schuman. Um, he, you know, cause people say, you know, "Thank you for your service." And a lot of the time, people say that sometimes to just alleviate their own guilt of, of having not served, but you know, I've heard guys talk about it. It's weird. You're thanking me for something that, A, I signed up for, I wanted to do, or you're thanking me for, you don't, you don't even know what my job was. And it's just a complicated kind of decorative term that we use out of lack of, of knowing, but he would say, the thing that really broke him, he was, you know, filling up his, um, uh, you know, his, his truck with gas and, you know, his army, the big red one. And, you know, a guy saw that and, you know, basically just kind of shook his hand and, you know, said like, "Welcome home."

• 1:39:10Speaker 02

You know, "Welcome home, son." And, um, you know, "Glad you got home safe." And that's. You know, it's, it's, uh, yeah, it's tough. It's, it's, but you're, that's,

• 1:39:26Speaker 02

we can do what we do because those men and women are over there doing, you know,

• 1:39:29Theo Von?

  Oh, yeah.

• 1:39:30Speaker 02

  Doing the dirty work.

• 1:39:31Theo Von?

I mean, our job is built on the freedom of speech, you know?

• 1:39:33Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:39:33Theo Von?

Both of our jobs are built on it. Like,

• 1:39:35Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:39:35Theo Von?

It doesn't even exist if people, uh, if people aren't, uh, making the sacrifice for us. But yeah, that would be great to be able to talk with Gary Sinise. I know he does a lot with that, with the, for veterans and,

• 1:39:49Theo Von?

yeah, it's nice to just be reminded. It's nice to be reminded of a space to, another reason to have gratitude for the things that we have going on.

• 1:39:55Speaker 02

Also, it's like, it's different parts of the, like, we're, you know, growing up in Florida, I feel like there's so many people that, uh, you know, had family members in the military. But it's, it's a lot more socio, like, economic driven now to where the military, it's, it doesn't feel like the entire country is really a part of it. And it's really happening in very specific pockets. Um, so it's kind of, it'll be interesting in the next, like, 25 years, 50 years of who, you kind of have to live in these certain areas to, to have a relationship with somebody who's serving, because that's what personalizes it.

• 1:40:34Theo Von?

Yeah, that's a good point, man. You know, during, uh, in ancient Rome, they used to have, the, the, the politicians were also on the battlefield, which is pretty fascinating. So it was like, the rules that they were making, if they, they were going to send people into battle, they were going to have to be associated with those rules. And I think it would be, I mean, who am I to say? I didn't serve. But it would be, you know, I think maybe some of the rules we would make might be, some of the choices we would make might be a little bit different if it felt like-

• 1:41:04Speaker 02

If you had skin in the game.

• 1:41:05Theo Von?

  Yeah.

• 1:41:05Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:41:05Theo Von?

I think there's always some value in having skin in the game.

• 1:41:07Speaker 02

Yeah. I think that's just a tricky thing with politics in general, when you just can't recognize the- You know, the elected officials and the leaders, you just feel like you cannot relate to them. They can't relate to you on any level. And it feels like those margins are getting wider.

• 1:41:26Theo Von?

Getting wider. Dude, that might be a cool, I'm sure there's a cool film out there, a lot of cool opportunities. Well, man, I hope you continue to serve us in, uh, in great ways by bringing art to life. And bringing it into video format for us and, uh, yeah, thank you so much, dude, for all the entertainment and for stopping by and chatting. Thanksgiving week, you guys can check out Eternity with Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen.

• 1:41:55Speaker 02

And also my, uh, my wife Kelly, uh, she's coming out with a, like a pajama, a robe line.

• 1:42:02Theo Von?

Will that be available for holidays?

• 1:42:03Speaker 02

Uh, yeah, yeah. And I'm just so, I'm just so proud of her.

• 1:42:08Theo Von?

  Yeah?

• 1:42:08Speaker 02

So had to get that out there too.

• 1:42:11Theo Von?

Oh, that's, that's awesome. Yeah, you guys have been together for how long?

• 1:42:14Speaker 02

  Uh, it's almost 13 years.

• 1:42:16Theo Von?

  Damn.

• 1:42:17Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:42:17Theo Von?

Did you know right when you met her that that was a wonder?

• 1:42:19Speaker 02

I knew she was like the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. Yeah, there you go. Uh, appreciate that, guys. She's the most pure-hearted person I've ever met in my life. I didn't know that, obviously, when I saw her, I was just attracted to her face.

• 1:42:33Speaker 02

You know? And, uh, but then as I've gotten to, you know, but then we're pretty inseparable right off the bat. But I do remember, cause I was like 25, dude. This was like very, I'd lived in, my career just started and she, you know, and I remember my boys, my Florida boys I moved out with, um, when they start seeing her hang around more and more, I'm like, yeah, well, she's my girlfriend. They're like, what the fuck are you talking about? They're like, why would you have a girlfriend right now? This is our moment. This is our entourage moment. Like we rented a house in the valley, we had a pool. They're like, this is our time, dude. I was like, well, you know, I, I, I was probably like, yeah, am I ready to settle down? No, but also I'm not ready for her to just leave me either.

• 1:43:16Speaker 02

You know, it's like, I don't want, this one's not getting away.

• 1:43:20Theo Von?

For sure. Dude, that's funny you buy your bike.

• 1:43:23Speaker 02

That's my best friend. We literally, like, I never get, I never get sick of her. I like, and when I, and when I tell people the difference is like, you know, most people, they have a job nine to five, whatever it is. And when I'm filming, certainly it's like that, but when I'm not, it's like, and she comes with me when I'm filming. It's like, I see her from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. You know, maybe I go work out for a little bit or do something like that, but we are with each other all of the time. And we, we love it. Like, that truly is, like, that's when she cracks me up. She's very low, like, she's so hard to rattle, to get rattled. She doesn't raise her voice. She says, being calm is her superpower. But she is, she's just like unflappable. Um, she's great.

• 1:44:04Theo Von?

  The unflappable Kelly Teller.

• 1:44:05Speaker 02

Oh, she's gonna love that. She loves you.

• 1:44:08Theo Von?

And she has a new pajama line that's out. Yeah, I remember the day that I met her. You guys were sitting out there, out back together, man. I think almost every time I've seen you, except for that one time that you were dancing by yourself, which is pretty admirable. I think I was seeing people. Miles told us they were dancing by himself. I'm like, that dude is doing his own thing.

• 1:44:25Speaker 02

I took my boy to the, the fight, uh, that time.

• 1:44:27Theo Von?

It's so much fun. It's fun to bring your friends, man. Um, and it's fun to bring us into your world for a little while. Thank you so much, Miles. I appreciate it. Uh, check out Kelly's new pajamas and, um, and congratulations, man, on everything.

• 1:44:39Speaker 02

  Thanks, dude.

• 1:44:39Theo Von?

Yep, have a good day, brother.

• 1:44:41Speaker 02

I'll see you at the fight soon.

• 1:44:41Theo Von?

  It sounds good.
