This episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out is brought to you by McDonald's. The Quarter Pounder with Cheese with Medium Fries and a Drink is now $8. And look, I've chased down a lot of strange stories, but nothing quite like what's inside a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. It is 100% fresh beef cooked right when you order it, with no artificial flavors, colors, fillers, or preservatives in the beef. The onions are hand-topped by someone who knows the perfect amount by memory. Two slices of cheese and a star, and two pickles side by side. So every bite gets both. And every time one's ordered, a cowbell sound rings in the kitchen. That's the grill master's cue to put a fresh patty on the grill. My move?

• 1:28Pablo Torre?

QPC, fries and a drink after a long day of recording. That is my happy place. The Quarter Pounder with Cheese with Fries and a Drink, now $8 for a limited time only, only at McDonald's. For a limited time only. Prices and participation may vary. Prices may be higher in Hawaii, Alaska, and California. And for delivery, fresh beef not available in Alaska and Hawaii. Offer not valid for delivery. This episode is brought to you by Apollo.io. A lot of the stories on this show start the same way. Something that looks pretty simple turns out to be a mess, once you look under the hood. Well, it's no different in the sales world. Your team has a tool for finding prospects, a different tool for reaching out to them, and a third for keeping track of it all.

• 2:13Pablo Torre?

On paper, that's a system. In practice, it's a salesperson spending the better part of the day copying names from one tab into another, and not much of it actually selling. Apollo.io is a platform that helps sales teams find the right buyers and reach out to them. It brings prospecting, outreach and follow-up into one place instead of several separate tools. It's used by sales teams of all sizes, from small businesses to larger organizations, and it's built for teams who want less manual busywork and more time with buyers. If your marketing and sales teams are trying to work from the same view of the customer, it's worth a look. Sign up for free at Apollo.io. That's Apollo.io. Welcome to Pablo Torre Finds Out.

• 2:58Pablo Torre?

I am Pablo Torre and today we're going to find out what this sound is.

• 3:02Speaker 02

No! Oh my god, it's so milky.

• 3:08Pablo Torre?

  Right after this ad.

• 3:11Speaker 02

  You're listening to DraftKings Network.

• 3:26Speaker 02

My dad would do the free AOL CDs.

• 3:28Pablo Torre?

  Of course.

• 3:29Speaker 02

And so we had to get new screen names every like two weeks.

• 3:32Pablo Torre?

Did you get them off like magazines?

• 3:33Speaker 02

Because once he used the free hours, he would like make a whole new account. Uh, yeah, he would get them in the mail. He would like actively go out and seek them.

• 3:40Pablo Torre?

At a certain point, the AOL free trial CDs were a certain form of currency.

• 3:43Speaker 02

Yes. Oh, man, my dad had that system figured out. And I was like, hey, dad, so this is kind of like a social thing and my name keeps changing. It's getting tough for me out here. Please, can we just? And then they came out with AIM, which was the best.

• 3:56Pablo Torre?

  Yeah.

• 3:57Speaker 02

You didn't have to do all the other stuff with the chat rooms. You could just do Messenger.

• 4:02Pablo Torre?

I remember when Warning debuted as a feature. Remember when you could warn people on AIM?

• 4:08Speaker 02

No, but I remember next to nothing about my life, so please tell me about it.

• 4:12Pablo Torre?

There was a, there was a function that I presume was invented because of like online bullying, but you could warn the person you were instant messaging with.

• 4:21Speaker 02

  To whom?

• 4:22Pablo Torre?

To them. So you would press like a lightning bolt icon and they would get a warning.

• 4:27Speaker 02

  An electric shock?

• 4:28Pablo Torre?

But it was like a percentage and you could. Keep warning them, and if you warn them 200%

• 4:33Speaker 02

Oh, this is coming back to me now?

• 4:34Pablo Torre?

They couldn't send an "I am."

• 4:35Speaker 02

  Huh.

• 4:36Pablo Torre?

And so presumably this was used again to like create politeness and decency. And instead, it was just weaponized so

• 4:43Speaker 02

  We do that with everything.

• 4:45Pablo Torre?

Teenage boys could just like lightning bolt each other over and over again.

• 4:48Speaker 02

Oh. I thought you were gonna say weaponized in actually bad way. That ended up being pretty harmless there at the end.

• 4:53Pablo Torre?

  It was fun.

• 4:55Speaker 02

In terms of weaponization on the internet, that wasn't too bad.

• 5:00Pablo Torre?

I mean, it wasn't like we fomented a revolution in Myanmar.

• 5:02Speaker 02

Did Twitter get something today? It was not that-

• 5:05Pablo Torre?

  It was not working.

• 5:05Speaker 02

Yeah, so I think that's, I think we gotta go. I think it's time to go. It's time for me to leap into Blueski. I'm gonna, I'm heading over to Blueski.

• 5:14Pablo Torre?

  God.

• 5:15Speaker 02

  Everybody's very nice there.

• 5:17Pablo Torre?

They're very, they're so eager to welcome you.

• 5:20Speaker 02

It's the relearning of the stuff. It's the re-following the people that I got of, it's the, it's the, I had it. I had it, and I didn't do anything that made me deserve to have it taken away. Why did you take it from us? Why?

• 5:36Pablo Torre?

Warning was invented, oh wow, this is, no, this is my first word post from 2003.

• 5:44Speaker 02

What you have there in front of you?

• 5:45Pablo Torre?

What I have there in front of me.

• 5:46Speaker 02

You dug that deep into the internet.

• 5:47Pablo Torre?

  Straightdope.com.

• 5:49Speaker 02

Okay, that's a, who knows now? Who knows?

• 5:52Pablo Torre?

  It's, it's, it's, but hold on, where's the actual one? Here's, here's, here's a headline from the Gainesville Sun.

• 5:59Speaker 02

Okay. And that's a real thing, or something named to sound like a real thing.

• 6:05Pablo Torre?

Yep. Uh, like the Epoch Times.

• 6:09Speaker 02

Yes. And which is what again?

• 6:11Pablo Torre?

Uh, presumably a real thing. And not, as it turns out in this Wikipedia page, "A far-right international multi-language newspaper and media company affiliated with the Falun Gong new religious movement."

• 6:24Speaker 02

Oh, that is, that is, that is Shenyun.

• 6:31Pablo Torre?

Oh, yeah, right, right, right. That, that, that performing arts festival thing.

• 6:37Speaker 02

It's a show that they make seem like it's like a Broadway show, but it travels.

• 6:43Pablo Torre?

Operated by the Falun Gong, the religious movement.

• 6:45Speaker 02

That's right. Ooh, ooh. And I looked into that because I heard somebody say randomly, because Dan and I see these commercials all the time because they run during jeopardy. And so we're always like, what is this? Maybe someday we should go to this, thinking it's just like any other performance that comes through New York. And we, I like saw it, it come up somewhere in a subreddit of somebody explaining how it was cult-based.

• 7:07Pablo Torre?

  Yeah.

• 7:07Speaker 02

And it shocked me. And I was like, Dan, I think something might be up with this. And then I looked into it and it's a little, uh...

• 7:15Pablo Torre?

I mean, it's, it's the Los Angeles Times, 2020. Quote, "Both Shenyun and Epoch Times are funded and operated by members of Falun Gong, a controversial spiritual group that was banned by China's government in 1999." And it goes on to describe, uh, an organization that has claimed that aliens started invading human minds in the beginning of the 20th century.

• 7:35Speaker 02

  You know?

• 7:36Pablo Torre?

Leading to mass corruption and the invention of computers, which would make sense.

• 7:41Speaker 02

  Wouldn't it?

• 7:43Speaker 03

  Is this table moved?

• 7:45Speaker 02

Oh, I, am I that spatially unaware?

• 7:48Pablo Torre?

  The chairs are new.

• 7:49Speaker 02

Or are you having a moment?

• 7:50Pablo Torre?

  The chairs are new.

• 7:51Speaker 02

Where'd you come from? A conference?

• 7:52Speaker 03

Yes, I landed from work. Okay, [bleep] relax, dude.

• 7:58Speaker 02

Sorry, we were talking about how I'm dressed like a 12-year-old boy, so if you want to pick up and get a couple of those in.

• 8:03Speaker 03

  What's on your shirt?

• 8:03Speaker 02

This is my friend's podcast. This is the best hockey podcast on earth. It's called What Chaos. It's, um, uh, my friends Pete and DJ, and I love it. And they have great merch, and it's like high-quality merch, which tough to get these days.

• 8:15Pablo Torre?

  What size is that shirt?

• 8:16Speaker 02

It's oversized, because, look, they sent one to Dan too, and I showed it to Dan and he's like, "I can't wear shirts that are oversized like that." And I said, "You know what? I don't think I can either, but I'm gonna..." It's cool, and I'm pretending, we were all, I thought, gonna pretend I looked cool wearing it, but I see that...

• 8:33Pablo Torre?

  You were cool.

• 8:34Speaker 02

Here's the problem. I was getting dressed to run out the door. I was ready to go. And Dan's like, "Oh, you're gonna do a podcast? You want some of this bold?" And I was like, "Yeah." And then I just stood there looking in the mirror and I was like, "What are you gonna wear?"

• 8:47Pablo Torre?

And you're like, "This t-shirt isn't large enough."

• 8:48Speaker 02

"What are you gonna wear?" And I was like, "I don't know, let's just wear this." And I walked in before I left and I said, "Hey, you got me high at the wrong time. Is it okay to go outside in this outfit?" And he was like, "What? Yeah, totally." I could tell he said it scared. And now, you know. Anyway. How's everybody doing?

• 9:05Speaker 03

We have fun. At the end of the day, what we do is have fun.

• 9:25Pablo Torre?

Okay, let's do two things. Number one, spoiler alert, we're gonna talk about severance. But number two, I would like to set up how it is that we all realized we should be talking about severance today. We have been podcasting and watching a show which we love and are obsessed with to varying subreddit depths. With a guy...

• 9:45Speaker 02

Oh yeah, that's so... I freaked out when I realized...

• 9:48Pablo Torre?

  Who was on the show.

• 9:51Speaker 03

That, as I understand, is the preferred term among...

• 9:53Speaker 04

I think it's exactly the condescending verbiage that I'd expect from a group trying to save people from their own choices.

• 9:58Speaker 03

Choices. Did her inzie have a choice?

• 10:01Speaker 04

Inzie, and where are you getting these terms?

• 10:02Speaker 03

I find, uh, call it, uh, someone who's had their brain split in half.

• 10:05Speaker 04

That has nothing to do with what we do at Lumen nor any severance procedure.

• 10:09Speaker 03

I understand you don't want to answer my question.

• 10:11Speaker 04

  No, I'm answering your question.

• 10:12Speaker 03

Because it'll reveal that you are complicit in something totally immoral.

• 10:14Speaker 04

  What's immoral?

• 10:16Speaker 03

Tough to buy that guy is just a regular guy in that world. You know what I mean? Because you're like, "He must be a movie star in this world."

• 10:21Pablo Torre?

Honest compliment. Crushed the role of guy on television

• 10:25Speaker 02

  Really did.

• 10:26Pablo Torre?

  debating the severance procedure.

• 10:28Speaker 03

  Let's go.

• 10:29Speaker 02

  Really did.

• 10:30Pablo Torre?

  Legitimately.

• 10:31Speaker 02

Good points. You were on the right side of history, I believe. I'm not sure yet, we're not done, but I believe. And let me also say...

• 10:38Speaker 03

  Please do.

• 10:39Speaker 02

That because everything in this show is intentional and every shot we see is carefully considered, I would say my interpretation of your face being hidden by Mark S.'s face is that perhaps you...

• 10:58Speaker 02

  Are actually the protagonist.

• 11:00Pablo Torre?

  Yes.

• 11:01Speaker 03

  Of?

• 11:02Speaker 02

  Severance.

• 11:02Speaker 03

Severance, the show. Well, I'm not allowed to talk about that, but yes, I am the star.

• 11:06Speaker 02

That's why I didn't think we were gonna podcast, because I was like, you mean with the star?

• 11:10Pablo Torre?

  Genuine question.

• 11:11Speaker 03

  Go.

• 11:12Pablo Torre?

When you, was it an audition? How do you get the role?

• 11:16Speaker 02

  Good question.

• 11:16Pablo Torre?

  How does this work?

• 11:17Speaker 03

Fantastic. So here's how it worked. I auditioned for, I don't remember which role. I wanna say the Zach Cherry role. Dylan, is that the character's name?

• 11:25Pablo Torre?

  Yeah.

• 11:25Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 11:26Speaker 03

I think I auditioned for that role, and then gradually not getting that role. Auditioned for smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller roles. I think that, this one, I don't even know if I auditioned for. They just might have been like, well, we gotta throw this fucking guy something. And so then, and so then, there I was.

• 11:44Speaker 02

Again, if I can spin, if I may.

• 11:46Speaker 03

  Spin.

• 11:47Speaker 02

Uh, they liked you so much, they wrote a role specifically to use you.

• 11:51Speaker 03

That seems extremely, I mean profoundly unlikely.

• 11:55Speaker 02

  They kept bringing you back.

• 11:56Speaker 03

It's a lot of, it's a lot of, no, not for this. Nah, not for that. You know what he could be, right? Um, no, not for that.

• 12:05Pablo Torre?

But you do, you do have a name.

• 12:09Speaker 03

  Do I?

• 12:10Pablo Torre?

Did you, do you not know your own name?

• 12:11Speaker 03

  I don't, I don't know.

• 12:12Pablo Torre?

  In the Severance Wikipedia.

• 12:14Speaker 02

You mentioned it in the group text, and you did not react to it in a way that I was like, I don't know if he even knows that's his character's name.

• 12:21Speaker 03

  Gone over my head completely.

• 12:22Speaker 02

And if it was your name, that'd be a tough thing for it to do.

• 12:24Pablo Torre?

You got Severance from your own Severance.

• 12:26Speaker 03

I might, I might have been Severance while I was there.

• 12:28Speaker 02

Oh my god, oh my god, he doesn't know his own name.

• 12:30Speaker 03

  Every actor do that.

• 12:31Speaker 02

  Oh my god.

• 12:33Pablo Torre?

  Steven.

• 12:34Speaker 03

Steven. Oh, yeah, I could feel that.

• 12:37Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 12:37Speaker 03

  I definitely could feel that.

• 12:38Speaker 02

I can go back to that place.

• 12:39Speaker 03

  Now that I remember.

• 12:40Speaker 02

I can go back to that place.

• 12:41Speaker 03

I did feel Steven-ish while we were shooting it.

• 12:44Pablo Torre?

  Uh, yeah, I mean.

• 12:45Speaker 02

  Future president.

• 12:46Pablo Torre?

  Steven, uh.

• 12:48Speaker 02

  Stevenish Smith.

• 12:49Pablo Torre?

Oh, god. Uh, talking about things I would like to wipe from my brainstem.

• 12:53Speaker 02

  So bad.

• 12:54Speaker 03

Katie is on the fucking loose, dog, and I love it.

• 12:57Pablo Torre?

He's contractually allowed to talk ever more about becoming president, actually.

• 13:02Speaker 02

  It's wild.

• 13:03Speaker 03

I think it could happen. I believe it.

• 13:04Speaker 02

I think it could happen too. That's still scary.

• 13:07Pablo Torre?

  Let's stay on track.

• 13:07Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 13:09Pablo Torre?

  Episode three, first season, Steven.

• 13:11Speaker 03

  Steven.

• 13:12Pablo Torre?

  What do you?

• 13:13Speaker 03

  P H V.

• 13:14Speaker 02

You should know. What does it feel?

• 13:16Speaker 03

  Feels V.

• 13:17Speaker 02

  What's your motivation?

• 13:18Speaker 03

  It's V, isn't it? I could tell it was V.

• 13:20Pablo Torre?

  You're damn right.

• 13:21Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 13:22Speaker 02

He knows. He really studies this stuff.

• 13:24Pablo Torre?

Like the corner of two walls in a hallway.

• 13:27Speaker 03

  Holy shit.

• 13:27Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 13:28Speaker 03

Spoiler, there are walls in Severance. We should have said that ahead of time.

• 13:31Speaker 02

  And hallways. Wow.

• 13:32Speaker 03

Can I say something else that's not really on track? I don't believe in spoilers. I just don't believe in it.

• 13:35Speaker 02

  What does that mean?

• 13:36Speaker 03

It came out, at whatever time it came out, if you didn't watch it then, [bleep] you dude. That's it.

• 13:40Speaker 02

No, but I think warning people who aren't normally tuning into this for that.

• 13:44Speaker 03

  That's on them.

• 13:45Speaker 02

Just warning them that up until that certain, and people are gonna be mad too because they're gonna wanna hear the podcast, and you just gotta prepare for that. I would like to talk to my friends about the show that I like.

• 13:56Pablo Torre?

I would like to remove the spoiler alert that we gave before because so far we haven't spoiled anything.

• 14:01Speaker 02

  I think we did. Didn't I?

• 14:02Speaker 03

Steven is huge. You kidding me? You showed the scene with Steven?

• 14:05Pablo Torre?

  What did Steven?

• 14:07Speaker 02

Actually, I do have a question. Would you have the answer if I asked it?

• 14:11Speaker 03

  Almost definitely not.

• 14:12Speaker 02

In the clip, the thing you're upset about, your character, as you'll recall, I'm sure, sorry, I don't mean to explain your own.

• 14:20Speaker 03

Honestly, I didn't remember. Someone, watch, people have been sending me this clip, so I am like being refreshed.

• 14:24Speaker 02

Season one was so long ago. It's crazy.

• 14:28Pablo Torre?

It was 2022. February 25, 2022 is when we first saw Steven.

• 14:32Speaker 02

Yeah, I was like, dude, I can't go back. I have to go back. But I'm pretty sure I had met you by then, so I should have noticed you the first time, and I'm sorry that I didn't.

• 14:38Speaker 03

Okay, thank you. I've been waiting for that apology.

• 14:40Speaker 02

I know, I could feel it. Um, what was I [bleep] talking about so passionately?

• 14:45Speaker 03

You had a question? You had a question?

• 14:46Speaker 02

  You're talking about a woman?

• 14:48Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 14:48Speaker 02

Who is pregnant, who got, after a company activated Severance or allowed Severance, a month later, a woman got pregnant at work.

• 15:00Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 15:00Speaker 02

And you're arguing that like, how could you possibly be saying this is ethical?

• 15:05Speaker 03

  Yes, big ethical problem.

• 15:06Speaker 02

A month later, this girl got, lady got pregnant.

• 15:10Pablo Torre?

  Steven's a muckraker.

• 15:11Speaker 02

And my question was, are, does that imply, and this is probably a stupid question, but I'm not afraid to ask it, does that imply? That other companies that aren't just Lumen are also using severance at their companies, letting their workers be severed. Or did we already know that and I should have? But it feels like he works at Lumen. So it's like if other companies are also doing severance, that means he's at like the headquarters of what's kind of a global problem.

• 15:40Speaker 03

You're talking about when you say he, you're talking about Adam.

• 15:43Speaker 02

Like, yeah, the, the story we're watching is now suddenly even more important because it's not just about this one company that does this to their workers.

• 15:52Speaker 03

  I assumed.

• 15:52Speaker 02

It would be then they license out the tech to all these other companies.

• 15:56Speaker 03

I assumed the one company, but I should, I should say to you with extreme clarity, I do not know [BLEEP]. I know, I know.

• 16:03Speaker 02

And you know what? Me neither.

• 16:04Speaker 03

Probably even possibly less than you know.

• 16:05Pablo Torre?

So what, what, what did you know when you were playing the role?

• 16:10Speaker 03

Borderline nothing. I knew, I knew what I had read of the scripts, which were not, they didn't, you know, not massive amounts from previous auditions and like the basic premise of the show.

• 16:23Pablo Torre?

From trying to be Zach Charah.

• 16:24Speaker 03

From trying to be increasingly larger or increasingly smaller characters.

• 16:28Speaker 02

  I see where this fits.

• 16:29Speaker 03

Exactly. And it was, yeah, it was super nice and easy breezy.

• 16:34Pablo Torre?

Were you actually talking to that person? Or was that?

• 16:36Speaker 03

That person was very close to me physically. We weren't, it's like green screened, I think, probably whatever.

• 16:41Pablo Torre?

Well, she becomes, she becomes a big character.

• 16:44Speaker 02

  Yeah, I know, she does.

• 16:44Speaker 03

Yeah, and when I met her, I sort of assumed that we were roughly the same tier of person.

• 16:51Speaker 02

  Yeah, fair, fair enough.

• 16:52Speaker 03

  Because I.

• 16:53Speaker 02

You were like, oh, we're both kind of just here for a little bit.

• 16:55Speaker 03

Yeah. And I think looking, now seeing her like in every.

• 16:58Speaker 02

  How does that feel?

• 16:59Speaker 03

Episode feels great because you know what? I'm happy for her.

• 17:03Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 17:03Speaker 03

And I do not, I have never experienced envy or jealousy in my.

• 17:07Speaker 02

Me neither. What even is that? Sorry, you said envy?

• 17:10Speaker 03

  That's right.

• 17:10Speaker 02

  The two letters.

• 17:10Speaker 03

  That's right.

• 17:11Speaker 02

  N V?

• 17:11Speaker 03

  Yep. Nevada. I don't know.

• 17:13Speaker 02

  Know her.

• 17:15Pablo Torre?

Adam Scott obscuring your face for a large chunk of that.

• 17:19Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:19Pablo Torre?

Both poetic and also to the person whose face got obscured.

• 17:22Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 17:23Pablo Torre?

  It was hilarious.

• 17:27Speaker 03

  Are you asking me?

• 17:27Pablo Torre?

  Yeah.

• 17:28Speaker 03

  I did think, I did-

• 17:29Speaker 02

That's how a question sounds, right?

• 17:31Speaker 03

I did think that it was hilarious. Cause it was kind of a thing where-

• 17:34Speaker 02

  I would laugh at that.

• 17:35Speaker 03

  Having come in for-

• 17:36Pablo Torre?

It's so funny visually because you're our friend.

• 17:39Speaker 02

  Yes.

• 17:39Speaker 03

Again, having come in for increasingly smaller and smaller roles. You get the script and you're like, oh wow, that's actually like, that's actually a decent amount of stuff.

• 17:47Speaker 02

  It's so funny.

• 17:48Speaker 03

It's not like a huge role or anything, but it's like a lot of lines.

• 17:51Speaker 02

  That's so funny.

• 17:51Speaker 03

  And then you watch it.

• 17:52Speaker 02

You're like, oh, okay, I'm blurred.

• 17:54Speaker 03

And they're like, wow, they really found a way.

• 17:55Speaker 02

I'm blurred, I'm seeing me, but I'm hearing my voice, but I'm blurry. Okay, but surely they're gonna, there she, there she is.

• 18:01Speaker 03

We're seeing a lot of her.

• 18:02Speaker 02

  That's, oh, that's nice.

• 18:03Pablo Torre?

  Mine just feels not accidental.

• 18:05Speaker 02

  That's so funny.

• 18:06Pablo Torre?

The blocking of this scene seems very deliberate, actually.

• 18:08Speaker 03

  It does feel vaguely prankish.

• 18:12Speaker 02

Did you piss off Ben Stiller at any point in your career?

• 18:17Speaker 03

I don't think so. He was so nice.

• 18:19Pablo Torre?

Would you like to say anything to Ben while you have a microphone?

• 18:21Speaker 03

No, I mean, I would only say, sure, you've done such a wonderful job. And if, you know, you ever needed that character to recur, I could see a lot of ways in which it would be work, it would work.

• 18:30Pablo Torre?

The fans are demanding more Steven.

• 18:32Speaker 02

Fans are demanding, I'm that deep in the subreddit.

• 18:35Speaker 03

They call him the Stevedors. They're those, those are the ones who are like, they're really pushing for more Steven.

• 18:40Pablo Torre?

So to go back to the subreddit.

• 18:43Speaker 03

I'm not on the subreddit at all, by the way.

• 18:44Speaker 02

Good, and it's, and again, that's kind of goes back to what I'm saying. I don't even really recommend it because if you go too deep, I just think it's, sometimes it's a little too much about trying to get every little, I zoomed in on this and I checked on it and it's like, some of that is there so that you can appreciate it upon revisiting. If you get through, what a blessing to get through a TV show and go like, let me take another spin at that because that was really interesting. And then have your viewership enhanced.

• 19:13Speaker 03

  So you're rewatching the episodes?

• 19:15Speaker 02

Yeah, I just, yes, I just started this weekend. I'm on episode, uh, five, I think. I think I just did five of season one. And I don't think I'm gonna rewatch season two because here's the other crazy thing. The beginning of season two, I was like- I don't think this show and I get along anymore.

• 19:33Pablo Torre?

My concern was I was slow.

• 19:35Speaker 02

I was like, it's losing me. I'm not sure. There's too many things.

• 19:38Pablo Torre?

The finale of episode, or the last episode was, the finale of season one.

• 19:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 19:43Pablo Torre?

Was one of the great television shows.

• 19:45Speaker 02

  It was amazing.

• 19:46Speaker 03

  Incredible.

• 19:46Speaker 02

Almost criminal how long we had to wait. Almost criminal how long we had to wait for a season two. In the subreddit, maybe this is disproving that I'm not deep, but I went back just to make sure I grasped all the concepts. And people were like, after the, I checked, I looked ahead at the subreddit for the episode of the finale, just to be like, what did people say right after they saw that? And what they said was like, I can't believe we gotta wait another year. I can't believe we have to wait 12 more months. And it was like, oh, boy. You have to wait like that times three before you're gonna get another episode.

• 20:22Pablo Torre?

  Right.

• 20:22Speaker 02

Or two, two and a half.

• 20:24Pablo Torre?

Part of like my subreddit psychology, and I've made this mistake before, like honestly, I really enjoyed the last season of The White Lotus. But the thing about The White Lotus was last season, I felt like the subreddit collectively was trying harder than the writers actually wound up having tried. Like, there was the invention of theories and details being read into in ways that were just beyond what the intent was, it turned out, for that season. And Severance, any show like this, seems to be, you know, teasing, knowing that the audience will inevitably go and spin off into their own sorts of rabbit holes. But the question of will it get paid off, right?

• 21:09Pablo Torre?

So the finale of season one, I was like, okay, they're doing it. Now, after episode seven, I'm like, finally, they're doing it. And hanging in the, and this is like the lost problem. Is that like, you can get these signs that they're doing it, the question is, at the very end, will this all pay off? And I am so hopeful that Severance will.

• 21:30Speaker 02

  I think it will.

• 21:31Pablo Torre?

  I've just been burned before.

• 21:33Speaker 02

Here's the thing, so what solved my burn of lost.

• 21:38Speaker 02

Because Lost, I felt like I thought we were collecting all these clues and would be rewarded. And we were not. And I think it's because I went into it thinking they were gonna tell me the answers. And what cured me of that was when I watched The Leftovers. Because The Leftovers was like, hey, we're not gonna tell you why. It's gonna happen, and we're making a show about what happens after it happens. Because they don't know why either. So why should you know why? We're not solving it. And so then, once I accepted that, I really liked that show.

• 22:15Speaker 03

I agree with that so much. Mine is like a little bit in reverse where like I've, you said that Leftovers cured you. I thought of like Lost like primed me for Leftovers. So like, okay, now I know the way these people work is. Some of this is just not gonna get answered, and there's no way, a certain point in The Leftovers, you're like, they can't answer all this. Like Severance, which I do have full faith will pay off, so to speak. They're not gonna be able to tell you what all this is. Some of it is just gonna be like, oh yeah, and that happened. And we couldn't tie up every single piece of this. So the questions are, like, what's exciting is to think which of the things will be the ones that are answered.

• 22:51Pablo Torre?

  Right.

• 22:51Speaker 03

  I hope to find out.

• 22:53Pablo Torre?

When Steven is revealed as Steven Lumen.

• 22:56Speaker 03

Huge. It's gonna be, I'm not supposed to say.

• 26:40Speaker 02

Can we go back to talking about the show I like?

• 26:42Pablo Torre?

  Um, episode seven.

• 26:43Speaker 03

Wait, is that the one that just was on?

• 26:45Pablo Torre?

  The one before that.

• 26:46Speaker 02

  This, a second to last.

• 26:47Pablo Torre?

So the episode about Gemma, the, the-

• 26:49Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 26:50Speaker 02

  The big reveal.

• 26:51Speaker 03

Jenna's in all the different rooms.

• 26:52Pablo Torre?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, all those rooms. That, I mean, but just the, I sort of just palpably experienced what it's like to be out in a broader world after being claustrophobically inside of these hallways. And just like, it was weird to be like, uh, I have this feeling when I watch The White Lotus, when I watch Succession, where I'm like, I am enjoying this not merely because this is a really well constructed show, also because I'm into the aesthetics of it.

• 27:18Speaker 02

  Mm-hmm.

• 27:19Pablo Torre?

And I just found myself being like, oh, wow, like their house.

• 27:22Speaker 02

  That episode was beautiful.

• 27:23Pablo Torre?

It was just beautifully shot, decorated, like the plants, I loved.

• 27:27Speaker 02

  The woman who directed that-

• 27:29Pablo Torre?

  Is a cinematographer.

• 27:30Speaker 02

That was her first time directing an episode. It was gorgeous.

• 27:34Pablo Torre?

It was gorgeous in every way. And the broader takeaway, though, being-

• 27:37Speaker 02

What's her name? Do you know?

• 27:39Pablo Torre?

  Jessica Lee Kayne.

• 27:41Speaker 02

  Nice.

• 27:42Pablo Torre?

She knocked that [BLEEP] out of the park.

• 27:44Speaker 02

Yeah, she really did. And, um, again, knocked me on my ass. That episode was like, it's crazy to see a sea change in, again, the depth that I go of the subreddit, which is not too deep. I'm not reading other theories. I gave a couple other people too much. I like was reading it and then was like, okay, this is nuts. That's obviously not gonna happen.

• 28:05Pablo Torre?

I'm like a catfish. I'm just like, everything on the- The seafloor, I'm just like, hoovering up.

• 28:12Speaker 02

Yeah, that's crazy. You don't worry that you're like, this is a waste of my-

• 28:17Pablo Torre?

  I mean-

• 28:18Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 28:18Pablo Torre?

I don't know what that accent is, but I know that, uh, you know-

• 28:22Speaker 02

  To watch people go-

• 28:23Pablo Torre?

Stevedore59 was like, this [BLEEP] is actually a dream sequence.

• 28:26Speaker 02

  People love, loved-

• 28:30Speaker 02

Mark and Helly, they loved that. And then in one episode, after, I mean, right after they have sex.

• 28:40Speaker 03

The percentage increase in Any Mark having sex has absolutely skyrocketed.

• 28:45Speaker 02

Dude is getting more laid than he's ever been in his life.

• 28:48Speaker 03

Dude was extremely not having sex in there and now he's having.

• 28:50Speaker 02

  Had never, ever even.

• 28:52Pablo Torre?

  All over the place.

• 28:52Speaker 03

Probably never. Any Mark had probably never had sex and now Any Mark is doing it on the regular.

• 28:57Speaker 02

And then after episode seven, everybody was like, "Helly." Like, this is, it was crazy.

• 29:05Speaker 03

  Correct.

• 29:05Speaker 02

That they did such a good job of portraying the love that Mark had for his wife and that they had as like a couple. We had known nothing about that. So we weren't really even understanding his pain yet. We were told about it.

• 29:19Pablo Torre?

Mark has a dead wife. That sucks, I guess. Let's watch these people have sex under this desk. Yeah, to speedrun through a lifetime of a relationship and have that not feel like it's cheap and that they did it for, again, an artificial pulling of a puppet string is so hard. And by the end, yeah, that's exactly the right reaction. You feel bad that you were rooting for this other, you were shipping the wrong couple.

• 29:44Speaker 03

You also get hot Adam Scott in there, which you don't really get from most of the show.

• 29:47Speaker 02

We needed a little bit. We just needed to be like, yeah, I bet he was like, "Hell yeah. I can just throw my fastball in the middle of the, because I'm starting, people are starting to lose. I saw people using the meme of like, "You don't love this guy. You just are on SSRIs," or something like that. Of the like, "If you stop taking your beta blockers, this is gonna go away."

• 30:07Speaker 03

Yeah, then you see hot Adam Scott.

• 30:09Speaker 02

And then he comes out there and you're like, "Oh, no, no, no. He's got, he's, you're losing him in the, he's getting lost in the role. It's the point."

• 30:14Speaker 03

He's been playing, his sex appeal's been playing kind of left-handed this whole time. And he's like, "Let me actually show you. Just so you know, my hook actually looks like this." And you're like, "Oh, my gosh."

• 30:23Speaker 02

  That's right.

• 30:24Speaker 03

  Delicious.

• 30:25Speaker 02

That's right. There's our hottie. And so that's really what I think Severance is about, what it boils down to.

• 30:30Speaker 03

  Yeah, I agree.

• 30:31Speaker 02

  You know?

• 30:32Speaker 03

Okay, wait, can I ask a question? Just a thought about this?

• 30:34Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 30:34Speaker 03

I don't know what episode it is. When I watch, I watch and I kind of, I don't delve. I don't like go in to see all the secret thoughts, etc. I'm not on the subreddits.

• 30:45Speaker 02

Good. Again, I'm saying it and I feel like you still think I might be insulting you.

• 30:48Speaker 03

  When Helena.

• 30:52Speaker 03

Sees Mark at the diner or whatever.

• 30:54Speaker 02

Yeah, the Chinese restaurant, I believe.

• 30:56Speaker 03

Chinese restaurant, thank you. And says the wrong name for Gemma. Do you know what I'm talking about? She calls her like Hannah or something and Mark corrects her.

• 31:05Pablo Torre?

  Yes, yes, yes, yes.

• 31:06Speaker 03

What do we think is going on?

• 31:08Pablo Torre?

So two things I thought were happening there. One is, that's the classic move when you are trying to throw shade at someone's ex.

• 31:17Speaker 02

  Yeah, yes, okay.

• 31:19Pablo Torre?

Like, oh, how's, how's, uh, how's Kristen, her name is Katie.

• 31:24Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 31:25Pablo Torre?

  Like that thing?

• 31:26Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, I'm like, you know, you know that, don't do that.

• 31:29Pablo Torre?

  The whole time.

• 31:29Speaker 02

  You knew.

• 31:30Pablo Torre?

Uh, the other thing is, is she testing his cognitive, just sort of like?

• 31:33Speaker 02

Could be. It always could be that.

• 31:35Pablo Torre?

Which is also what episode seven was about, right?

• 31:38Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's the whole thing.

• 31:39Speaker 03

  Interesting.

• 31:39Pablo Torre?

  Testing your, your pain tolerance.

• 31:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 31:42Pablo Torre?

  Your emotional pain tolerance.

• 31:44Speaker 02

  That is.

• 31:45Pablo Torre?

  That guy.

• 31:46Speaker 02

My, by the way, I learned my, yeah, [BLEEP] that guy. And that's no offense to him, you know? It's just like, buddy, I'm never, it's like, uh, I feel like there's a guy in Green Mile that as soon as he, he's either sucks or is an incredible actor. Because I was like, if I ever see that guy again, I'll punch him and I won't feel bad.

• 32:04Pablo Torre?

  Dr. Mauer.

• 32:05Speaker 03

  He'll know why.

• 32:06Speaker 02

Yeah, and that's how, Dr. Mauer, you're next on that list. Like, that guy sucks. That guy sucks. He's a creep. He played a creep so well that I never want to see that. Oh, my god.

• 32:17Pablo Torre?

In her mouth as the dentist was...

• 32:20Speaker 03

Don't you feel like, don't you feel like they could come back to him and you could see him in the outside world? And you'd be like, oh, I see kind of how he got here. Like Severance would do that. Severance, they're not going to, I don't think.

• 32:29Speaker 02

No, not to me, maybe just maybe to a weaker.

• 32:32Speaker 03

Be like, oh, I get why he like wants to pretend to be a dentist. It actually checks out.

• 32:36Speaker 02

No, because I, because if you think he's just pretending to be a dentist.

• 32:40Pablo Torre?

Dr. Mauer, as an Audi, is Steven's assistant.

• 32:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 32:46Pablo Torre?

His asshole boss, who he's browbeaten by and he's taking it out on, uh, yeah, Ms. Casey.

• 32:52Speaker 02

Ms. Casey. Oh, my God. Just what a show. There's just so much happening.

• 32:58Pablo Torre?

How many more episodes are there?

• 32:59Speaker 02

I think it, well, last season went to nine, so I was, would have thought eight, but maybe nine?

• 33:05Pablo Torre?

  We're looking it up.

• 33:06Speaker 02

So there's either one or two left. It's gotta be two left.

• 33:10Pablo Torre?

  There are two more.

• 33:11Speaker 02

Okay, good. So that's what I'm, I'm right.

• 33:13Pablo Torre?

The after hours is the next episode. Uh, and then the last episode is Cold Harbor, which feels like it's been signaled, of course, by the room that.

• 33:22Speaker 03

  Sure.

• 33:22Pablo Torre?

Again, if you haven't watched the show, I hope you enjoy us nerding out about it, but it's just the thing that I've been dying to talk about with friends who also are watching.

• 33:30Speaker 03

But Cold Harbor's not just the room, it's also, that's the project that Mark's working on. He's gonna finish Cold Harbor.

• 33:34Speaker 02

And it was also, it was written on the crib that he was building in the flashback. And I don't think that matters. That's probably just like shout out to that prop director, but I, it's just an interesting.

• 33:43Pablo Torre?

  That was an accident.

• 33:44Speaker 02

Well, no, I don't think it was an accident.

• 33:46Pablo Torre?

  Catfish being like, you fool.

• 33:48Speaker 02

I don't think it definitively tells us that Cold Harbor is going to be baby related.

• 33:55Speaker 03

Yeah, I feel like that episode eight is very, you know, when you go to like a super fancy restaurant and the chef is like, and for this course, it's a parsnip steak. And you're like, I would never eat this, but let's see what you got, bro.

• 34:05Speaker 02

  I'll try it.

• 34:06Speaker 03

That's that, this to me is the parsnip steak episode where they're like, what if we did this? I love that. I love imagining a writer's room where they're like, how about this insane thing? And someone goes, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Let's absolutely do that.

• 34:18Speaker 02

Yes, but you have to trust the restaurant.

• 34:21Speaker 03

  Yeah, exactly.

• 34:21Speaker 02

You can't do it at a gas station.

• 34:22Pablo Torre?

And to the point of like living in this claustrophobic series of hallways and now like actually exploring the rest of the map.

• 34:29Speaker 02

  Hmm.

• 34:29Pablo Torre?

  And you're like, oh.

• 34:30Speaker 02

Which is named after the people. So you're like, this is, uh, clearly not just in the company, which I think is when we get our most crucial piece of information is when you in the real world are talking about like, I love the little bits that take it out into the, like at the dinner party in season one. Episode two, question mark, um, where they have the non-dinner dinner party, where they're all sitting around, it's all Rickon's intellectualist friends, talking about nothing but saying a lot of words, and they're having a dinnerless dinner, where they focus more on, uh, sating themselves with the conversation, and really digging into each other's brains, instead of being distracted by the food. It's like perfect, that's why I love Rickon as a character, he's perfectly written,

• 35:16Speaker 02

his friends suck, and then when Severance comes up, you feel everyone go like, the way like if now, I'm not even gonna quote anything that could come up, but like think of the hot button topics that like make everybody go like, I have an opinion, I wonder what your opinion is, we don't really talk about this. Comes up in conversation, and then you see all these people who like performatively like to show you how smart they are, give their take on, it's very interesting. And then your news report, you hear that it's like might be happening at other companies, there's like other stuff, it's why I watch shows now with the captions on, because sometimes like hearing what the TV is saying in the background, while not crucially important, does add like a context that makes you go, that is what we would do. We would absolutely respond to Severance with something like that.

• 36:00Pablo Torre?

We're just officially at a point where Michael Cruz Kayne, who is one of the characters you're describing, has no idea what the [bleep] you're talking about.

• 36:06Speaker 02

  Really?

• 36:07Speaker 03

That is, that is totally true. You're at a level of re-watch, but also like of pay attention, that I don't, I don't achieve. Even though I watch Severance, you're very close to like teaching a class on Severance. I think that's the level of-

• 36:19Speaker 02

  Or writing fanfiction. Oh, god.

• 36:22Speaker 03

I don't mean that you would want to.

• 36:22Speaker 02

Oh, we can talk about something else, that's mortifying.

• 39:54Pablo Torre?

I would like to stay in the world of entertainment and bring you the other story that I wanted to talk to you about.

• 39:57Speaker 02

  What's that?

• 39:57Speaker 03

  Yeah, great.

• 39:58Pablo Torre?

  Did you guys see Saltburn?

• 40:00Speaker 03

I didn't see Saltburn, but I did because of this. I went, I clicked the link to the video of the scene, and I wish I hadn't clicked on it.

• 40:10Pablo Torre?

  Well, Katie-

• 40:10Speaker 02

Oh, which scene is it? Was it when he [bleep] the ground?

• 40:13Pablo Torre?

This scene is, is this scene.

• 40:15Speaker 02

Oh, my God! This, you can't show this at work. You can't make me watch this.

• 40:21Pablo Torre?

And just in case you're not familiar with this video, by the way, this is, in fact, Barry Keoghan sneaking in and drinking the bathwater in the tub that Jacob Elordi's character had just bathed and ejaculated in.

• 40:48Speaker 03

  He's really-

• 40:48Speaker 02

You better be going somewhere with this.

• 40:50Speaker 03

  He's really-

• 40:50Speaker 02

Because what the [bleep]? Why? Why are we?

• 40:56Pablo Torre?

So I bring that scene up because the bathtub from Saltburn-

• 41:02Speaker 02

  Oh, my God.

• 41:03Pablo Torre?

-has been purchased by a guy who collects stuff from movies.

• 41:08Speaker 03

  His name is Pablo Torre.

• 41:09Pablo Torre?

And a bathtub is here today! We're gonna wheel out the bathtub.

• 41:14Speaker 02

Is it, um, I don't wanna call the- Do not play the clip again. I just am at- Did we ever see a-

• 41:23Speaker 02

What? No! No! Do we ever see a wide of the- Oh, my God, it's like, look at the texture of it.

• 41:30Pablo Torre?

  It is, the slurping does-

• 41:32Speaker 02

Turn it off! Do we ever see the tub? Good night.

• 41:39Speaker 03

  Good night, mate.

• 41:39Speaker 02

Is it like a claw foot?

• 41:42Speaker 03

  We'll show you.

• 41:42Pablo Torre?

  There you go.

• 41:42Speaker 02

  Pause, pause.

• 41:44Speaker 03

  Pause, pause.

• 41:46Speaker 02

  Legally, you have to pause.

• 41:48Pablo Torre?

So there's a, there's a wood, sort of like, uh...

• 41:51Speaker 02

  Well, you think.

• 41:52Pablo Torre?

  Rim, I guess.

• 41:54Speaker 02

  I can't tell if it's old or new. It's new-ish?

• 41:56Pablo Torre?

It's definitely game-used, is the point.

• 41:58Speaker 02

No, I meant like, um, if that's, what type, what type of, what style of...

• 42:02Pablo Torre?

  Expensive?

• 42:03Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 42:04Pablo Torre?

Expensive. So like, the whole premise of Saltburn is that these guys are doing stuff inside of this estate.

• 42:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 42:10Pablo Torre?

  In England.

• 42:11Speaker 02

  That's the whole point?

• 42:12Pablo Torre?

That's honestly, like, more or less the point.

• 42:14Speaker 03

They're like, watching this house or something?

• 42:16Speaker 02

Hey, these guys are slurping each other's goo.

• 42:18Pablo Torre?

In Jacob Lurdi's family, they have this estate.

• 42:22Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 42:22Pablo Torre?

  And they are...

• 42:23Speaker 02

The estate is called Saltburn, I guess?

• 42:25Pablo Torre?

  Yes.

• 42:25Speaker 03

And these are like, two buddies?

• 42:27Pablo Torre?

So, longer, longer story summarized is that Barry Keegan...

• 42:33Speaker 02

I think it's just, I thought it was Keegan, but maybe it's...

• 42:35Speaker 03

No, I think he's saying it. Say yours again.

• 42:37Pablo Torre?

  Keegan.

• 42:37Speaker 03

  That's right.

• 42:38Pablo Torre?

Barry Keegan is a student at the same school, and he gets taken in by Jacob Lurdi, and it's this whole kind of like, difference in class dynamic. But Barry Keegan is also like, this incredible, uh, con man, in other words. Talented Mr. Ripley.

• 42:55Speaker 03

  Mr. Ripley.

• 42:56Pablo Torre?

  One might even dare say.

• 42:57Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 42:58Pablo Torre?

Anyhow, this guy bought this bathtub for $4,375 in an online auction.

• 43:03Speaker 03

Talented Mr. Sip Me? Is that something?

• 43:05Speaker 02

  Oh, no!

• 43:08Speaker 03

Oh, no! No, no, no, no, no!

• 43:13Pablo Torre?

  Sorry, you were saying?

• 43:17Pablo Torre?

If you weren't sure, that Katie is lightly stoned.

• 43:20Speaker 02

  God, what?

• 43:23Pablo Torre?

When people ask Mr. Harvey, this guy's name is, is Mr. Harvey, uh, his first name, I believe, Michael Tile.

• 43:30Speaker 03

  Steve Harvey?

• 43:30Pablo Torre?

  Oh my god.

• 43:31Speaker 03

  Bought the tub.

• 43:33Pablo Torre?

Steve Harvey, uh, that mustache, doing work on that tub.

• 43:38Speaker 02

  It's like...

• 43:39Pablo Torre?

When people ask Mr. Harvey what he does with the bathtub, his answer is simple. Quote, "I just look at it," he said. "I'm looking at it right now." Barry Keoghan was right there. "It's so crazy to me," period, end quote.

• 43:50Speaker 03

I mean, this is, this dude is a, I mean, if I had to guess, an outwardly, extremely horny guy. Whoever bought this.

• 43:58Speaker 02

But he's a movie, if it wasn't a movie collector guy, then I would feel like more so that. But movie collector guy, if he wants to collect all the iconic things from movies, he could power through, you know, how weird that is.

• 44:14Speaker 03

It just feels like you've got that thing in your house so someone can say, "What is this?" And you can go, "Have you seen this scene from Saltburn?"

• 44:19Speaker 02

But how many, what are the other? Do we know the other, already better than his, if I may? Uh, do we know what other things from what other movies he has?

• 44:29Pablo Torre?

Other Saltburn memorabilia he bought in the auction.

• 44:31Speaker 02

Oh, well, that's different. That's also.

• 44:33Pablo Torre?

Including a framed photo of Mr. Lardy and Mr. Keoghan.

• 44:36Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 44:36Pablo Torre?

And ensembles that the actors wore in the film, uh, which won awards for costume production and design. Uh, also, the bathtub came complete with stains around its drain.

• 44:44Speaker 02

  Oh, my God.

• 44:46Speaker 03

  Fake stains. Stains like stains.

• 44:48Speaker 02

I'd call it a stain. It doesn't, that doesn't tend to.

• 44:51Pablo Torre?

Designer has said that they were made using edible paint.

• 44:52Speaker 02

  Stain, okay.

• 44:53Speaker 03

  Edible paint stains.

• 44:55Speaker 02

  I just.

• 44:55Pablo Torre?

  You know.

• 44:56Speaker 03

In case Keoghan accidentally dislodged some of the stains. They're edible.

• 44:59Speaker 02

I don't think you can stain a tub. I'm looking for one of you to take that over. I don't think you can stain a tub with that.

• 45:03Pablo Torre?

  Not with that.

• 45:04Speaker 03

I'm not aware of, I'm not aware of, yeah, of the acid content being enough to stain the tub.

• 45:10Pablo Torre?

Mr. Harvey estimated that he'd acquired about 200 pieces, this is across all of cinema, and that he had paid about $70,000 for all of them. Though a handful had cost him thousands of dollars, most were bought for hundreds of dollars, he said. They include dozens of clothes previously owned by Joe Exotic.

• 45:27Speaker 02

  No.

• 45:28Pablo Torre?

Subject of the Netflix documentary series Tiger King. Several outfits worn by Lady Gaga in the film House of Gucci.

• 45:34Speaker 02

  Okay, sure.

• 45:34Pablo Torre?

A mask and two vans from the horror movie The Black Phone.

• 45:38Speaker 02

  Never heard of that.

• 45:39Pablo Torre?

  Not familiar.

• 45:39Speaker 02

I don't like horror movies though.

• 45:40Pablo Torre?

  A horse trailer from Twisters.

• 45:42Speaker 02

  Okay, sick.

• 45:43Pablo Torre?

And a diner sign from Friday the 13th, one of his favorite horror films.

• 45:46Speaker 02

  That's cool. That's cool.

• 45:47Speaker 03

Okay, so it's kind of all in like a big warehouse?

• 45:50Pablo Torre?

I- i- in his residence, it seems.

• 45:52Speaker 02

Okay, so he's having that moment you described, like 50 times throughout his, and have you ever seen Friday the 13th? This is a sign from that.

• 46:01Pablo Torre?

There are lots of people who buy at auction props, costumes, from movies, memorabilia. I mean, which is not unfamiliar to anybody who owns like sports memorabilia, of course. Like, this is their version of that. And so who, who, who am I to say that you can't have, in this photograph, a framed, autographed photo of Joe Exotic, I guess?

• 46:25Speaker 02

  I guess.

• 46:25Pablo Torre?

  I don't know, but...

• 46:27Speaker 03

I think the bath, I'm interrupting you. The bathtub is for sex thoughts. That's, you're not getting that. You could get, you could have got all the other [BLEEP] and not got the bathtub.

• 46:36Speaker 02

Well, can I make the only argument for it being not for that? And I think it's that it was such a moment of like, everybody was talking about it. Like, it was a very, like, a good or bad. People were like, "Did you see that scene?" That's why Pablo said that scene. "I only happened to have seen the other scene." But you can't buy the grave. You can't buy the grave. They weren't letting you. And so it was like a very talked about, very shocking scene. And so it really, to him, maybe, potentially, I'm not the guy, I'm not Steve Harvey, so I don't know. Maybe he was just like, it's a, look, this is a piece of, like, history.

• 47:17Speaker 02

I'm not saying whether he's right or wrong, or even if this is a thing he thought, but it, like, is like a...

• 47:23Pablo Torre?

Kyle Harvey said, quote, "It's a piece of history."

• 47:27Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 47:27Pablo Torre?

That bathtub had TikTok going for days.

• 47:31Speaker 02

  Did that, that's crazy.

• 47:32Speaker 03

  That is crazy.

• 47:33Pablo Torre?

It's crazy because I know you didn't read this.

• 47:35Speaker 02

That's, you know I didn't. I didn't even know, did I get to whatever we...

• 47:38Speaker 03

It's crazy that you immediately came up with the same excuse that a known sex pervert came up with.

• 47:44Speaker 02

And what does that tell ya?

• 47:45Speaker 03

  Immediately.

• 47:47Speaker 02

  Right off the top.

• 47:47Pablo Torre?

Is there anything you guys would want to own from any of your favorite shows?

• 47:51Speaker 02

  Oh.

• 47:51Pablo Torre?

Or movies? Like, is there a severance object that you would like? Is there, what, what? So there are some options here, just because I know, for instance, like, our friend David Sampson, here at Metalark Media, is one of these...

• 48:04Speaker 02

  Your friend.

• 48:05Speaker 03

Shout out to my buddy Dave.

• 48:06Speaker 02

  Your friend.

• 48:07Speaker 03

  Davy Sampson!

• 48:08Speaker 02

  Your friend.

• 48:09Speaker 03

Mr. Sampson! My man! Ah, the stories I could tell you about Dave, my god, do we have time?

• 48:17Pablo Torre?

He owns the FedEx box from Castaway.

• 48:22Speaker 02

What the [BLEEP]? This is like Darren Revell.

• 48:25Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 48:26Pablo Torre?

  It's not unlike Darren Revell.

• 48:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:28Pablo Torre?

He owns the pocket watch from Cast Away.

• 48:32Speaker 03

Okay, this is, so he's, we're getting a real Cast Away vibe here.

• 48:36Pablo Torre?

  Uh, he also-

• 48:37Speaker 03

He doesn't have Wilson. There's no way he's got Wilson.

• 48:39Pablo Torre?

He does not have Wilson, but God knows he would love to have Wilson. Helen Hunt was his wife in Cast Away?

• 48:44Speaker 02

I've like memory, I've wiped that from my memory completely.

• 48:47Pablo Torre?

  Girlfriend.

• 48:47Speaker 02

  Sorry. Oh, I'm so sorry.

• 48:49Pablo Torre?

  Um-

• 48:50Speaker 02

Nope, not to put any pressure on him. Whenever they're ready, you know?

• 48:53Pablo Torre?

David Sampson also owns a Will Ferrell's hospital gown from Stranger Than Fiction.

• 49:00Speaker 03

  Wow.

• 49:01Speaker 02

Stranger Than Fiction? Certainly not in Will Ferrell's top five?

• 49:08Pablo Torre?

  Thousand movies?

• 49:10Speaker 02

I liked, I liked it too, but I'm still like, that's not what I would have guessed.

• 49:14Speaker 03

You're not thinking, you're not, it's not, it's not the first thing that comes to mind.

• 49:17Speaker 02

No, and I would argue even the soccer one comes to mind before this.

• 49:22Speaker 03

And that's how well you know what that one is, that you call the soccer one.

• 49:24Speaker 02

And what is it, Kicking and Screaming?

• 49:26Pablo Torre?

  That's right.

• 49:27Speaker 02

It's a pretty low-key good movie. And I say low-key, because I'm young. Let's go to the next.

• 49:32Pablo Torre?

Speaking of not being young, uh, he owns the teddy bear, uh, from, uh, MASH. This is a Radar's teddy bear.

• 49:41Speaker 03

  This is so dick.

• 49:42Speaker 02

I'm too young to know what that is.

• 49:43Speaker 03

This is, this is so dick.

• 49:44Speaker 02

Too young to know what that is.

• 49:45Pablo Torre?

  I mean, look at that.

• 49:46Speaker 03

It looks, I would say vaguely terrifying.

• 49:49Speaker 02

Yeah, I do feel like I had a teddy bear that kinda looked like that with the weird mouth.

• 49:53Pablo Torre?

That teddy bear does look like it's been drowning in the salt burn tub.

• 49:56Speaker 02

Wasn't Ma- okay, why do we gotta go back to it? Why do we gotta go back to it? Is there an HR I can hit up on my way out here today?

• 50:04Pablo Torre?

  There is definitively not.

• 50:05Speaker 02

I feel being, I feel I'm being bullied. No! Oh my god, it's so milky!

• 50:13Speaker 03

I, I should also say that I also do not want to see that video again.

• 50:17Speaker 02

  Thank you.

• 50:18Speaker 03

  Well, I have bad news.

• 50:19Speaker 02

It's not just a me thing! So glad my t-shirt's gigantic.

• 50:25Pablo Torre?

We're not gonna play it anymore.

• 50:26Speaker 02

  Okay.

• 50:27Pablo Torre?

Just kidding, we are gonna play it, play it again.

• 50:33Speaker 02

It's that noise. You hear the noise and you're like, ah!

• 50:36Speaker 03

Yeah, even gonna, I'm gonna have a Pablovian shiver response to just-

• 50:39Pablo Torre?

  A Pablovian.

• 50:40Speaker 03

  Oh my god, oh god!

• 50:57Pablo Torre?

What did we find out today?

• 50:58Speaker 02

  Um, as usual, nothing.

• 51:00Pablo Torre?

  Katie.

• 51:01Speaker 02

  As usual, nothing.

• 51:02Pablo Torre?

You always claim that you found out nothing on Pablo Torre Finds Out, a show about finding out stuff. And you inevitably do realize at some point, we found out so much today. So much.

• 51:13Speaker 02

  Such as?

• 51:14Pablo Torre?

  Such as?

• 51:15Speaker 02

  Oh, my god!

• 51:16Speaker 03

  Son of a god!

• 51:18Speaker 02

  I found out...

• 51:19Speaker 03

  Son of a [BLEEP].

• 51:20Speaker 02

Isn't the safe space I thought it was. [BLEEP] I found out I'm not safe here.

• 51:28Pablo Torre?

Um, I would like to have us edit into Michael Cruz Kayne's severance scene.

• 51:35Speaker 02

  Mm.

• 51:36Pablo Torre?

Footage of Michael Cruz Kayne talking on this episode that Adam Scott is watching. Can we do that?

• 51:43Speaker 03

  Put it in the TV?

• 51:44Pablo Torre?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want this episode to be in the TV that Adam Scott is turning on.

• 51:48Speaker 02

  And his head is blocking.

• 51:50Speaker 03

So my head is still blocked, even in this.

• 51:53Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Us two are on the side that you can see.

• 51:57Speaker 03

Ben's still gonna listen to this episode of this podcast, call you guys and be like, "It would be funny if you blocked his head." That would be funny if you did that.

• 52:05Pablo Torre?

Turns off the TV with the remote. End episode.

• 52:08Speaker 02

  End episode.

• 52:21Pablo Torre?
