To realize the future America needs, we understand what's needed from us to face each threat head on. We've earned our place in the fight for our nation's future. We are Marines. We were made for this.

• 0:14Speaker 01

Thank you to our partner, Royal Caribbean.

• 0:17Travis Kelce?

Dude, have you seen this? Royal Caribbean just dropped the Legend of the Seas. It's the biggest cruise ship on the planet. Like, nothing's even close to being this big. And it's sailing out of Fort Lauderdale, starting this November.

• 0:32Speaker 01

That's right. This thing is stacked. Seven pools, more places to eat than you can even count. I mean, they have something for everybody.

• 0:41Travis Kelce?

Like, bring the kids, bring mom and dad, shoot, bring the whole crew. Everybody's got a spot. That's what makes it special.

• 0:48Speaker 01

And the entertainment, Latin music, ice skating, full-on Broadway shows. It's pretty amazing. Pretty much everything you want in one place. Oh, and did I mention there's a water park?

• 0:58Travis Kelce?

You didn't, and that's, that'd be the kicker for me.

• 1:00Speaker 01

  I love a water park.

• 1:01Travis Kelce?

But the crazy one? Crown's Edge, a ropes course off the side of the ship. Not for the faint of heart, brother.

• 1:10Speaker 01

They've also got Playmaker Sports Bar and Arcade, so that means games on every screen. I love a good arcade sports place combination.

• 1:19Travis Kelce?

All right, Captain, get the family on the new Legend of the Seas, sailing November 2026 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Thank you to our sponsor, Colgate Total.

• 1:34Speaker 01

On offense, it's important to prevent problems from the moment the ball is snapped.

• 1:38Travis Kelce?

That's true. Otherwise, you're just out there running cardio. Can't get open for a big play.

• 1:45Speaker 01

But it's not just football. There's a lot of things you need to prevent before they start.

• 1:49Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, like in your mouth.

• 1:51Speaker 01

  My mouth, specifically?

• 1:53Travis Kelce?

I mean, probably yours too, but I'm talking everybody's mouth. There's bacteria in there that can lead to oral health problems like cavities, gingivitis.

• 2:04Speaker 01

Right, yeah, all the nasty stuff. But the good news is you can prevent these problems before they start with Colgate Total Active Prevention. It's like having a good offensive line for your mouth.

• 2:15Travis Kelce?

Ooh, exactly. With twice daily brushing, Colgate Total prevents oral health problems like cavities and gingivitis.

• 2:23Speaker 01

And it's not just one contributing player either. It's a whole system. Toothpaste, mouthwash, and a special toothbrush.

• 2:30Travis Kelce?

Now that's the squad you want fighting for your mouth.

• 2:33Speaker 01

Colgate Total is like having a full playbook in your bathroom, working to help prevent oral health problems before they start.

  Chiefs Kingdom member.

• 2:46Travis Kelce?

  Certainly so, yes.

• 2:47Speaker 01

Perhaps the sexiest member of Chiefs Kingdom.

• 2:49Travis Kelce?

Maybe. I mean, you know, Rudd's in there. Sads is in there. I mean, come on, there's a lot.

• 2:56Speaker 01

  Tough sledded.

• 2:57Travis Kelce?

  It's a hot kingdom.

• 2:58Speaker 01

  That's right.

• 3:04Travis Kelce?

Welcome back to New Heights. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, a Wondery Show brought to you by AT&T. We're your hosts. I'm Travis Kelce. My big brother Jason Kelce out of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Shout out to the Tigers, but also shout out to the Cats and their new hire, Coach Calhoun, coming over from Utah State. We're pumped that he's finally back at UC. And I'm sure we'll talk about that in a little bit, but subscribe on YouTube, wherever you get your podcasts, and follow the show on all of social media at New Heights Show with one S. For fun clips throughout the week, we're gonna have a bunch this week as Jason tells you what we have coming up this week.

• 3:39Speaker 01

92% we got another amazing episode coming up. We're gonna talk a little golf. Ha ha! The best major of the year is coming up with the Masters. We got Jon Hamm, little friends and neighbors, season two sneak peek. We're gonna talk a little March Madness and for all of our Bearcats listeners, the new men's basketball coach, Jared Calhoun is here!

• 4:02Speaker 01

Big episode. Big, big episode. Let's get into a little bit of that new news.

• 4:08Travis Kelce?

  Coming in hot.

• 4:10Speaker 01

This week's new news is brought to you by American Express and we're going to have some new news of their own. Oh, okay. American Express is now the official partner of the NFL.

• 4:19Travis Kelce?

  Big, huge news.

• 4:23Travis Kelce?

  Oh, man. American Express.

• 4:26Speaker 01

Yeah, nothing says America like the NFL.

• 4:28Travis Kelce?

Jason Kelce is now a two-time Sports Emmy nominee. That's right. Nominated a second time for outstanding sports personality emerging on air talent. You are emerging as the greatest sports personality in sports. I could, I've seen it since the first day that you showed your tits on ESPN, that you were going to be great. And now you're getting nominated for an award that shows just how great your personality is, Jason. How many years until you're not, no longer emerging? How long is that?

• 5:06Speaker 01

  Um, I don't know. I don't know.

• 5:09Travis Kelce?

How does it feel to be nominated again, Jason?

• 5:11Speaker 01

Do you want me to be honest?

• 5:12Travis Kelce?

  No, be kind.

• 5:14Speaker 01

Okay, feels great. Love every second of it.

• 5:17Travis Kelce?

  Your family's proud of you.

• 5:18Speaker 01

I'm honored by the men and women who make these decisions.

• 5:25Speaker 01

The reason I think it's cool is because there's a lot of people that put a lot of hard time and work into making all the things that I fucking do. This podcast, the Monday Night Countdown crew, the desk that I'm on with, I'm on with some incredible experts and people that are actually the best at what they do and the sports analysis realm. You know, I think it's, it's, it's fun to do all this stuff. I love sports. I love to still be involved despite being a retired player and given this platform to communicate with fans. So, yeah, it's, it's, it's an honor, but it's more importantly, great to share the fact that I really don't do a lot and a lot of other people work their ass off.

• 6:07Travis Kelce?

  Team player.

• 6:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:09Travis Kelce?

You've always been one of the best teammates and you gotta shout out anytime you get in a war, you gotta shout out everybody that well, our nominee, every time you get a nominee, gotta shout out to people that help you get to where you are in life. Um, well, yeah, congratulations, Jason.

• 6:24Speaker 01

Thanks, Trav. And also, uh, congratulations to you. Travis Kelce is officially a Tommy boy.

• 6:29Travis Kelce?

Tommy, Tommy. No, I, uh, dude, it's so fun, man. I've signed on to be the global ambassador, um, and creative collaborator with Tommy Hilfiger. I am so pumped, man. I've been such a huge Tommy fan since I was a kid. Um, the nineties color blocking and just how, you know, iconic the logo is with the flag. I've just been, I've been trying to figure out where to go in the fashion world because I, I do love, you know, obviously having fun things to wear and creating fun things to wear and expressing that. And I think that, uh, you know, my last one with American Eagle was so much fun and they were so unbelievable

• 7:10Travis Kelce?

that I wanted to continue doing that. And, um, and I think this opportunity is like the, the next level for me. It's going to be an amazing, amazing capsule when it comes out. Um, and, uh, excited for this year's fall 2026 line as well, which is, uh, which is what I'll be pushing out first. So.

• 7:27Speaker 01

Well, hell yeah. I can't wait to check it out. I love the last collaboration you did.

• 7:30Travis Kelce?

I got it all right. Now there's a little, there's a little Tommy right here for you as well, man.

• 7:35Travis Kelce?

Hello, America. For you. No, it's comfy, man. It's the best. You would love this one specifically. It's a like a nice light knit.

• 7:42Speaker 01

  Light knit.

• 7:43Travis Kelce?

Nice, light breathable knit. You love those.

• 7:46Speaker 01

I'm a big heavy knit guy now, though. That's.

• 7:48Travis Kelce?

But you like the drapiness of the heaviness, right? Like you like how it kinda like, yeah, it's got that. It's got that.

• 7:54Speaker 01

If it gets too light, it shows off my tits too much. I need it to kinda drape over the tits.

• 7:58Travis Kelce?

Yeah. No, this will, this will take care of your tits.

• 8:00Speaker 01

We also got a new nickname for the big yeti.

• 8:03Travis Kelce?

  What?

• 8:04Speaker 01

New nickname for the big yeti, Hoopsie, which we learned from the Chiefs who revealed this during your contract signing. Is this an actual nickname?

• 8:12Travis Kelce?

Yeah. So my, uh, my OG in the room, Anthony Fasano, shout out to Pizon. Fasano is one of my favorites of all time. Him and, uh, Mike McGlynn, Big Greasy, man. Called me, yeah. They saw me struggling coming out of the, the huddle every day with hoop earrings in and. Would screw up the play and so they would call me instead of oopsie, they would call me hoopsie.

• 8:35Speaker 01

  Hoopsie?

• 8:35Travis Kelce?

It's a banger. It's a banger. So that was a young 2013, 14 Travis running around the Kansas City facility screwing shit up, being called hoopsie. Do we need hoopsie merch?

• 8:47Speaker 01

Get Tommy, he'll figure on it. Get, get, get old Tommy boy on it. The hoopsie line.

• 8:52Travis Kelce?

Bringing back the hoops. We're bringing back the earrings. You heard it here, Tommy.

• 8:57Speaker 01

Hey, bigger the hoop. So that's it for new news.

• 9:05Speaker 01

That's it for new news brought to you by American Express.

• 9:11Travis Kelce?

God damn, you're good, man. That was fucking great timing.

• 9:16Speaker 01

It was, it was sitting there. It was sitting there for the taking for sure.

• 9:20Travis Kelce?

Let's get into a little Masters preview, Jason. 92% of we got something special for you. Golf majors season is kicking off this month. So for the next couple of episodes, we're gonna, you know, talk some golf. Why not? Everybody loves golf. This Masters preview is brought to you by AT&T. That's right. Your favorite cell phone provider. We got to start with the new addition to the Masters. Jason Kelce, Jason Kelce, come on down.

• 9:47Speaker 01

  Oh, thank you. Thank you.

• 9:49Travis Kelce?

After making his golf broadcasting debut on TGL, ESPN is sending Jason to Augusta next week.

• 9:56Speaker 01

I don't think they're gonna let me in with the cut off wine shirt at Augusta, but

• 9:59Travis Kelce?

  Which is?

• 10:00Speaker 01

  No, listen, I

• 10:01Travis Kelce?

  Go ahead.

• 10:02Speaker 01

Good. Yeah. Um, no, yeah, I'm going down there for the part three ESPN broadcast, the part three day. I think Scott Van Pelt, my man down there, hosts it. You know, we, we love golf and we've been down to the Masters before. And I think anybody that's been to the Masters just realizes how special and unique of a place it is. And, um, you know, Augusta National is just, everything's done to just a ridiculous degree between maintaining the course, the beauty of it, the hospitality of it. Like I just, everybody, the way they treat you, the way it's done is just done at a level that's second to none. And then the history of, of the course, the tournament, there's just something so special about being down there. So.

• 10:47Speaker 01

I always want to go just as a spectator. So to be able to go down there, to be able to be there for the par three day one, which I've never been to, and to interact with some of the golfers and to see that course firsthand, and then maybe shed some light on some of the people that make Augusta National so special, right? Like, everybody gets to watch the tournament. They get to be see the best golfers in the world compete for probably the most prestigious thing in golf, the green jacket.

• 11:15Travis Kelce?

  Ooh, green jacket.

• 11:17Speaker 01

But there's a lot of other people that do a lot of work around that course that make that thing special.

• 11:23Travis Kelce?

Do you think it's frowned upon to go out and I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt. I'm being silly. Go ahead. Finish.

• 11:30Speaker 01

  No, you're good.

• 11:30Travis Kelce?

Should we get matching green jackets?

• 11:32Speaker 01

  I thought I think that's

• 11:34Travis Kelce?

  That's what I'm saying.

• 11:36Speaker 01

You can't get a green jacket. You can't like imitate a green jacket. Like, I'm more going to go get gold medals and go to the Olympics? What are we talking about here?

• 11:43Travis Kelce?

All right. Can we do gold jackets?

• 11:47Speaker 01

  Green jacket, gold jacket?

• 11:50Travis Kelce?

Whenever they ask. So it's with the gold jacket, it's green jacket, gold jacket? Who gives a shit?

• 11:59Speaker 01

Matching jackets doesn't sound bad. Yeah, we're outside of working there with ESPN. We're both actually going to be down at Augusta. It'll be fun. Just enjoy it, man. It's it's so special with you. You you you put your phone down and you're in just this ridiculously beautiful course that feels like that ground was made for one thing, and it was made to be a golf course. And it's just, I don't know, man, there's not really anything quite like it.

• 12:24Travis Kelce?

I had the fortune of going down to the Masters during the COVID year, and there were no grandstands. There were like limited amount of people. I got to see that course and how they care about every single blade of grass and every single, you know, garden that they have on the walkways. And it was just such a unique experience. And obviously, you know, it won't be that this time, but I'm equally as excited to get to experience what it's like when the full madness is there and the hype is there and there's that many people breathing down these guys' necks on the green. And I'm just excited to get down there and experience it a different way than I did last time.

• 13:04Speaker 01

Well, I'm excited to be down there with you because it's you got your, you got your chair. I got, I got my chair. I'm bringing my chair. We're posting up.

• 13:10Travis Kelce?

  I

• 13:11Speaker 01

What hole should we post up on?

• 13:12Travis Kelce?

I didn't go chair. I just went grass. I just laid it in the grass.

• 13:14Speaker 01

I got a second chair. I got a second chair. My guy, Tom Nerny, shout out to Tom Nerny, hooked me up with the chair. I got an extra chair. I'll get your chair.

• 13:21Travis Kelce?

  What color chair is it?

• 13:23Speaker 01

We'll set it down. It's one of the official Augusta National Masters chairs.

• 13:27Travis Kelce?

  Okay.

• 13:27Speaker 01

Yeah. You set it down in your spot, post up. What hole should we post up on? What's your favorite hole?

• 13:32Travis Kelce?

I kind of like walking around. Obviously, Amen's Corner. Yeah, that's, it's lovely. I kind of like to when we went, we posted up at the, the second or third day we went, we posted up right around 15, where the, the par five, where it kind of bends around the trees there. It's like a dogleg left and

• 13:54Speaker 01

I know exactly what you're talking about.

• 13:55Travis Kelce?

Such a cool shot to me because it's kind of like an island green in a sense. It's like you just got that water in front of it and

• 14:03Speaker 01

You gotta go over the water.

• 14:04Travis Kelce?

It's a shot now. Like you gotta kind of place that drive. You get to see how everyone tries to cut the corner or tries to, you know, play their, whatever their strategy is. And then that's a, it's a hell of a shot for them to get there and to if they go for it. It's just fun to kind of see, you know, which guys go for it, where they end up. And, and yeah, I think that's, that's probably my favorite place. Obviously, the par threes, there's not a bad par three on the course.

• 14:33Speaker 01

I mean, it's always fun to post up in a par three.

• 14:35Travis Kelce?

Yeah, you just see everybody throw darts, so.

• 14:37Speaker 01

I like, I can't remember, it's the par five that's two coming down the hill or three?

• 14:42Travis Kelce?

Two coming down the hill is you gotta hit it kind of perfectly or else that thing is flying.

• 14:48Speaker 01

I think it's two coming down that hill. It ends in like, so in the middle of the course, there's a green right there. And I think it's the par five. If two's a par five, it's two.

• 14:56Travis Kelce?

I believe you're correct. I believe that is it. I think it's two. Everyone tries to like hit it on that left side of that par five. It kind of goes left as well.

• 15:03Speaker 01

So you come down that hill, but you're, you're kind of centrally located. So you can put your chair down there, you're on the green, but then you can also get up and walk to like multiple different holes in the area. It's just a good like center location. That's one of my favorite spots. Anyways.

• 15:16Travis Kelce?

I'm not gonna lie. I like to kind of walk the course a little bit, be bougie, go to Berkman's place, go back out and walk the course a little bit more at the end.

• 15:25Speaker 01

  Fair enough.

• 15:25Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I'll be there wearing Tommy.

• 15:28Speaker 01

Alrighty, we have a voicemail from last year from a 92 percenter. Let's take a look at this regarding the Masters.

• 15:35Speaker 03

Really, Youngstown, Ohio. First of all, King.

• 15:39Speaker 01

  Hi.

• 15:40Speaker 03

I'm baby number four. She is so cute. My no dumb question falls around the Masters that happened on Sunday. And if one of you guys won the Masters, what would your guys' ideal champion's dinner be like?

• 15:59Speaker 01

  Ooh, love this question.

• 16:03Travis Kelce?

  Thank you for that question.

• 16:05Speaker 01

I think Rory McIlroy's championship dinner just got announced, if I'm not mistaken.

• 16:09Travis Kelce?

It came out, yeah. The first one is Rory's here. We got some peach ricotta flatbread with a little hot honey basil and balsamic.

• 16:18Speaker 01

Hmm. Sounds good. Rock shrimp, gotta love rock shrimp.

• 16:22Travis Kelce?

I'm not gonna lie, he's two for two on me right now. Bacon wrapped dates, and now I'm out.

• 16:26Speaker 01

Grilled elk sliders. Why would you have elk when you just have beef?

• 16:32Travis Kelce?

Carbonized onion jam? I almost threw up.

• 16:37Speaker 01

Oh, I mean, not carbonized onion jam. Elephant tuna gazpacho.

• 16:41Travis Kelce?

What the fuck, Gua? Man, there's one thing, there's two things I'm allergic to, octopus and foie gras.

• 16:47Speaker 01

Filet mignon, seared salmon, sticky toffee pudding, great dessert, great dessert. Alrighty, not bad, Mr. McIlroy. Let's see what Bubba's working with. Much more dated. This is not as pristine of a menu, it looks like.

• 16:59Travis Kelce?

  2013.

• 17:00Speaker 01

Grilled chicken breast? Jesus Christ, Bubba.

• 17:05Travis Kelce?

What's wrong with the grilled chicken breast?

• 17:07Speaker 01

I mean, nothing, but it's, I mean, if a special occasion, we can do better than a grilled chicken breast. Green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese.

• 17:17Travis Kelce?

What are you saying, Bubba? These are southern guys?

• 17:21Speaker 01

Caesar salad, chicken breast, and confetti cake? This is fucking hilarious. You can have anything in the world, Bubba. I'll do Caesar salad.

• 17:30Travis Kelce?

This had something to do with Augusta. Like, he went to the chefs, was like, hey, what are you guys known for? And they were probably just like, we make a mean grilled chicken mac and cheese.

• 17:41Speaker 01

I'm a fan of actually subverting.

• 17:44Travis Kelce?

  Subverting, S U B.

• 17:47Speaker 01

Traditional, like, American dishes, but like, making them at like a high-end meal, like.

• 17:53Speaker 01

I think you go beans and weenies, but you have them do it in the Augusta way. Beans and weenies.

• 17:57Travis Kelce?

  No chance.

• 17:58Speaker 01

Have like the fanciest peanut butter and jelly imaginable.

• 18:01Travis Kelce?

Uncalled for in a situation like this, but keep going.

• 18:04Speaker 01

  What's another hamburger helper?

• 18:07Travis Kelce?

What are we doing? What are we doing? When's the last time?

• 18:11Speaker 01

For some reason, but that's my point. I used to love hamburger helper. I would go complete nostalgia. PB and J, beans and weenies, hamburger helper. What else can we throw on this that we used to eat growing up? Get some Dunkaroos in there. I don't even know if they make Dunkaroos anymore. Put those things in there. What, what is, what was another thing in the Kelsey family household? That would be hilarious to put at a freaking Masters championship dinner.

• 18:35Travis Kelce?

What were those little nutter butters? What else, man? Fucking.

• 18:39Speaker 01

Got to have some key lime pie in honor of Ed Kelsey.

• 18:41Travis Kelce?

I'm gonna see, I'm in on key lime pie being the dessert. That's nice.

• 18:45Speaker 01

All right, all right. Key lime pie. Trying to think, oh, casserole, gotta have a nice casserole in honor of Ed Kelsey.

• 18:50Travis Kelce?

  Stocked with cottage cheese.

• 18:55Travis Kelce?

What, it wasn't, it was ricotta.

• 18:57Speaker 01

  It was ricotta, ricotta cheese.

• 19:00Travis Kelce?

It was thick and it was, it was good in that, but I can't do ricotta very, very often.

• 19:05Speaker 01

  Very cheesy, very cheesy.

• 19:09Travis Kelce?

  Just some Giorgio's pizza, man.

• 19:10Speaker 01

Mama Kelsey's dinner rolls, gotta have some Mama Kelsey dinner rolls.

• 19:13Travis Kelce?

Mama Kelsey dinner rolls. That's gotta be the first thing that comes out.

• 19:16Speaker 01

  Yes, yes.

• 19:17Travis Kelce?

All right, so Mama Kelsey, Mama Kelsey's dinner rolls to start us off with a little.

• 19:21Speaker 01

  Beans and weenies.

• 19:22Travis Kelce?

I'm not doing beans and weenies in mind. There's no chance I would ever force anybody to do beans and weenies.

• 19:28Speaker 01

I'm talking about mine. It's the best.

• 19:30Travis Kelce?

  The worst.

• 19:31Speaker 01

Beans and weenies, you're out of your mind.

• 19:33Travis Kelce?

I don't love absolutely shitting my brains out five minutes after I eat. No, I don't. Just fucking leaving a trail of fucking ass juice everywhere I go. Just like, it's the worst.

• 19:46Speaker 01

I would also that, well, that's another thing. You use it to sabotage. My stomach is made to handle beans and weenies. If I'm playing again, I'm going to sabotage the group. I'm going to force all of you into this realm. This stomach has been in. You all are coming in to eat my beanies and weenies and you're not going to be able to survive it. You grew up over in Ireland, Rory. You don't know what the fuck you're dealing with beans and weenies from bushes and fucking Oscar Mayer. Yeah, you got a clue what you're ready for.

• 20:17Speaker 01

This guy's gonna be on that first tee wondering what the fuck hit him.

• 20:20Travis Kelce?

There's no way Rory's eating beans and weenies, man. There's no way any of these fucking golfers.

• 20:27Speaker 01

Your system's never seen this amount of nitrates. You don't know what's happening to you.

• 20:34Travis Kelce?

Ah, don't wear white pants tomorrow, boys.

• 20:39Travis Kelce?

You better wear dark shades. You better wear some dark shades, preferably black or brown.

• 20:46Speaker 01

This gut bacteria's been hardened through years of Ed Kelsey making him the cheapest meals possible in a microwave.

• 20:55Travis Kelce?

That shit's fucking hilarious. All right, well, we gave it our best run, dude. Can't wait to see if Rory will eat beans and weenies. I'm gonna scream it at him on the tee box.

• 21:05Speaker 01

What would you honestly do though for your menu? What would you put in there?

• 21:08Travis Kelce?

I mean, honestly, I feel like I'd go universal. I wouldn't make everybody fucking pay. I would make everybody enjoy it. Mama Kelsey's dinner rolls to start it off.

• 21:17Speaker 01

I feel like you go smash roll.

• 21:19Travis Kelce?

That's the thing. That's the thing. I'm going like a little smash burger, maybe some like some super salty fried chicken. I fucking, I'd love, I mean, you're in, you're in the South, so I feel like there, there should be some version of like southern hospitality, southern meal in there.

• 21:33Speaker 01

I like what you're selling here.

• 21:34Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I'm, I'm a big mac and cheese guy too. I'd probably go similar to bubble, but a more updated version for sure. Maybe not just as simple as that, but the key lime pie is a nice finish.

• 21:47Travis Kelce?

I've always liked the Dairy Queen ice cream cake too. So maybe, maybe throw that fucker in there.

• 21:54Travis Kelce?

I haven't been to that. I haven't had one in a long time.

• 21:57Speaker 01

Kyle, I talk about this all the time. I don't know why people get regular cakes. You know they make ice cream cake, right? Why would you get a regular cake when you get a fucking ice cream cake?

• 22:07Speaker 01

What are we even talking about?

• 22:08Travis Kelce?

Talking about. I feel like half of the world's lactose intolerant anyways.

• 22:14Speaker 01

  Alrighty.

• 22:15Travis Kelce?

Yeah, that does it for the Masters preview brought to you by AT&T. I can't wait to step foot down there in Augusta, man, and have some fun with the guys.

• 22:58Travis Kelce?

Oh, yeah. My favorite, my favorite shot ever at the Masters wasn't even during the actual like Masters play. It was like during one of the practice rounds, Jon Rahm hit a skipper on one of the par threes. I think it was 12. Hit the skipper onto the green. It comes down, trickles in, hole in one off the water.

• 23:14Speaker 01

  Stop, stop.

  Yes, sir.

• 25:38Speaker 01

92%ers, please welcome Mr. John Hay.

• 25:41Speaker 04

Thank you, thank you. That is a WWE style intro. I like that. Thanks.

• 25:48Speaker 01

  Chiefs Kingdom member.

• 25:49Speaker 04

  Certainly so. Yes.

• 25:50Speaker 01

Perhaps the sexiest member of Chiefs Kingdom.

• 25:52Speaker 04

Maybe. I mean, you know, Rudd's in there. Suss is in there. I mean, come on, there's a lot. It's a hot kingdom.

• 26:03Travis Kelce?

We got big Rob Rig. Robbie Ribs. He had his nice seasoned beard.

• 26:08Speaker 04

Oh, yeah. He's got a little salt in that pepper. He's all right.

• 26:11Speaker 01

How does it feel to become a meme, by the way?

• 26:13Speaker 04

That was the weirdest thing in the world. I am so not on social media. Like I have zero footprint, literally.

• 26:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:21Speaker 04

I think I have a Facebook page from whatever, 2002.

• 26:25Travis Kelce?

Those things are dangerous now, man. That's like a loaded gun.

• 26:27Speaker 04

For sure. Yeah. But I mean, I never, I never engage with it. I just don't. So even when people send me like links to Instagram and stuff, I have to open them on the web. I don't have the app. I don't, I don't, I don't play. The reindeer games are not for me.

• 26:40Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 26:40Speaker 04

So I came home, I was, I've been shooting up in Canada and Winnipeg, Manitoba, this next series that I'm doing called American Hostage. And I come home and I get a text from Brian Williams. Like, what does Brian Williams want? You know, it's like, okay, I open it up. And he goes, I hope you understand that this is a has been going around. He was the first guy that said, send me the link. I was like, first of all, Brian, why? What's on your algorithm?

• 27:05Speaker 04

But no, then it blew up like crazy. It was, it was bizarre. It's bizarre. It's just one of those things, you know, I, I, you got no control over it. You can't, you can't, you can't do that stuff on purpose. It just happens. Yeah, it has happened. And you know, I guess it was the best way for it to happen is it was positive. It was pleasant. It was funny. It was all the other stuff. So. Absolutely. Hell yeah. Well, it's iconic, man. Tom, what's this? What's this new series? You said you're up in Winnipeg? It's called American Hostage. It's about a, a, a real thing that happened in the seventies in, in the States in, in Indianapolis. It was a hostage situation where a guy took a bank manager hostage, tied a gun around his neck and walked him around for 63 hours straight. And I, yeah, it's real. And I was 1977. I was six years old. You guys weren't born yet. But I was like, I vaguely have a recollection of this incident when it happened.

• 27:51Speaker 04

But it was kind of the first thing that happened where local story kind of blew up into national news. And I play the radio reporter that he, that the, that the hostage taker, he was his favorite radio guy, newsman. So he says, you gotta get my story out. You gotta tell the people my story. And so he's kind of conflicted. He's going live on the air with this guy who's a loose cannon who also has a dude at the end of a shotgun that could go sideways at any moment. So it's, it's very tense. It's very exciting. Fuck yeah. It's gonna be a good one. It'll come out in the fall at some point. Up in Winnipeg? Yeah, we're shooting Winnipeg, which is. Around. Which is right now.

• 28:24Speaker 04

I don't know how cold you guys have been recently, but, but minus 30 is real, man. Yeah.

• 28:28Travis Kelce?

We got one of our college teammates, Zach Leir. Shout out to Zach. He's a, he's the quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

• 28:34Speaker 04

Yeah, I went to the Grey Cup this year, which was super cool. Saskatchewan Rough Riders versus the Montreal Alouettes. Have you guys watched the CFL? Yes. It is fun. Three downs. Yep. Receivers can move forward before. Field's bigger, right? Way bigger, like way bigger. It's crazy.

• 28:51Travis Kelce?

Dude, I'm, I'm love it, dude. We, we, we went up there a few times. Unfortunately, our guy got banged up the one game we went up there to go see him.

• 28:59Speaker 04

So you're bad luck. Well. They won the great cup that year, I believe. All right. So. They love it up there, man. They go crazy for it. Dude. And it's fun to watch. It is fun to watch.

• 29:07Speaker 01

  You're a football fan, right?

• 29:08Speaker 04

  I'm a football fan.

• 29:09Speaker 01

  You played football?

• 29:09Speaker 04

I played in high school. I got recruited to play like D3 Ivy League. And it was like, there was a decision. I played middle linebacker, you know, in my high school, we played both ways. So you, I played offensive line and middle linebacker.

• 29:22Speaker 01

Offensive line, middle linebacker, yeah. Chuck Bednarik.

• 29:24Speaker 04

Exactly. You're sitting with you guys?

• 29:25Speaker 01

  I'm, I was a running back, though.

• 29:27Speaker 04

We all wanted to be running backs. Especially in high school football, that's all you did. But no, I was, there was a choice and I was like, I don't think I can, I can, I wanted to go to college and I wanted to not be in the weight room and not be in practice all the time. I hear you. Like, for sure.

• 29:42Speaker 01

Can we just touch on this? Look at the, did you see his?

• 29:44Speaker 04

Yeah, kid, there he is. The necro.

• 29:46Speaker 01

  Necro guy.

• 29:47Speaker 04

  Necro.

• 29:48Travis Kelce?

This guy was fucking putting his forehead right on your chin. Let's fucking go.

• 29:53Speaker 04

  Absolutely.

• 29:53Travis Kelce?

And, and arm sleeves, the old forearm shiver.

• 29:56Speaker 04

For sure. It was not a pad I did not want to wear. I was like, I've given more.

• 30:00Travis Kelce?

They don't even make hip pads anymore. How crazy is that?

• 30:02Speaker 04

I don't know. You, I watch you guys, like, I'm like, how do you not do that? You had the hip pads and the butt pad. Dude, with the tailbone? Tailbone pad.

• 30:10Speaker 01

For six years, I didn't wear any pads on my legs. Until they changed the rule back to be like, hey, you have to wear any pads and thigh pads.

• 30:16Speaker 04

So what do they give you now? Like a credit card and you put it in the thing like?

• 30:19Speaker 01

It's the thinnest pad and then you, even once they give it to you, you cut it, yeah.

• 30:24Travis Kelce?

You can't give me enough pads.

• 30:25Speaker 04

  That's what I'm saying, man.

• 30:27Travis Kelce?

Dude, guys are fucking putting their helmet right on my knee, like.

• 30:30Speaker 04

You gotta run across the middle.

• 30:31Travis Kelce?

Yeah, no, I'm, no, give me as big, I just want all, my whole leg being a pad.

• 30:36Speaker 04

  Give me a force field.

• 30:37Travis Kelce?

I look at all these receivers, I'm like, dude, you guys are getting this shit fucked up. Put some goddamn pads on.

• 30:43Speaker 04

  For sure, for sure.

• 30:44Speaker 01

What is harder, playing football or being an actor?

• 30:47Speaker 04

Playing football. I mean, seriously, like.

• 30:51Travis Kelce?

  No way.

• 30:51Speaker 04

Nobody's coming at you to try to take your head off in the middle of a scene. You don't have to keep your head on a swivel when you're, when you're in the, in the middle of a scene. It's just not that hard. It takes mental energy, it takes preparedness, obviously, both, both of the disciplines do, but, but the funniest thing about, and you've probably had it, both of you probably had, you know, my buddy Glazer worked on your show. With you guys.

• 31:12Travis Kelce?

  Absolutely.

• 31:12Speaker 04

You know how it is to be on camera. It's it. Everything gets a little hyped up, a little little. You get a little nervous and all that stuff. And it takes experience and and reps to to get it down to where you feel comfortable doing it. Like anything else.

• 31:23Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 31:24Speaker 04

I'm sure if you put anybody on an NFL field i- i- in a moment, even if they were fit enough to play, the the the grandeur and the largeness of the moment would freak them the fuck out.

• 31:35Travis Kelce?

  No doubt.

• 31:35Speaker 04

Right? And so that's what happens sometimes when you get on stage, when we go on set and the lights are on and things ready and whatever's going. I remember one of the first movies I ever did was called We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson and uh, Greg Kinnear, Sam Elliott, a bunch of cast of thousands. It was great. Vietnam War movie, really, really cool. And we had this one, it's one setup uh, that was the whole day. It was just one thing for the whole day. And at the end of the day, the guy hits the button and the whole place blows the fuck up. And it was crazy. We had all these lines and all these things. We had all these cameras everywhere, running 11 cameras and Mel's in the middle of it. He's calling in the airstrike and the director is basically like, if you forget your line, if you fuck up, just keep going because we got one shot at this. And so it goes around and around and around. At the end of the thing, they hit the buttons and the whole fucking forest explodes.

• 32:20Speaker 04

And they call it and they're like, that's a wrap. Like, we're done. Like, okay, we're like, hey, we did it. And it's and we were all talking to Mel. We're like, don't you get like nervous? Like, what would he go?

• 32:29Travis Kelce?

  That's the one, yeah.

• 32:31Speaker 04

  No.

• 32:31Travis Kelce?

  That's crazy, man.

• 32:32Speaker 04

We just, that's what just what I do.

• 32:34Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 32:34Speaker 04

And you think about that, of course, in your line of work too, like Patrick Mahomes is like, he's, this is what I do.

• 32:40Travis Kelce?

Yeah, it's well, the old Texas gunslinger. He's right. He's a little different. He's built a little different. I was uh, I was just at Waste Management. I was on, I was uh, playing in the pro-am, right?

• 32:50Speaker 04

  That's a real thing, man.

• 32:51Travis Kelce?

So I, that's what I'm saying. You're talking about like being in a moment where you're like, oh shit. You walk into that thing and it's like the

• 32:57Speaker 04

  Thunderdome, dude.

• 32:58Travis Kelce?

Yeah, it's like the Colosseum. It's like, how the fuck did I get here? And you have to stand over a ball this size and fucking hit it.

• 33:05Speaker 04

That you've hit a million times that you know you can do. I had that experience. I played Augusta after the, after the Masters. The year, the last year that Tiger won, whether it was 2018.

• 33:14Travis Kelce?

  Uh huh.

• 33:14Speaker 04

You can do a thing where they keep the pins in the same place and you play that. You don't play from the, from the tips, but man.

• 33:20Travis Kelce?

  So cool still though.

• 33:21Speaker 04

And I was standing on the first tee and I literally, I lined up and I'm decent golfer. I was like, ready to play. And I looked down and my knees are doing this. And I was like, wait a minute. No.

• 33:30Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 33:30Speaker 04

And I I stepped back. I was like.

• 33:33Speaker 01

Come on now. And then I've stepped up and I striped it. But I mean, I was like, whoa, dude, that was real.

• 33:39Speaker 04

You kidding me? You already know.

• 33:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:42Speaker 04

  Jason, you uh.

• 33:43Speaker 01

  I hit the scoreboard.

• 33:47Speaker 01

That whole one, it's like sitting right there. Yeah, man. Not good. Not a good start to the day.

• 33:51Speaker 04

  Not a good start.

• 33:52Speaker 01

  Wasn't good.

• 33:53Speaker 04

  Numbers are falling down.

• 33:56Speaker 01

So you're friends and neighbors. Second season's coming out. What do we expect? There's a little twist at the end of the first season. Like I didn't, I expected, I thought you had gone good again.

• 34:04Speaker 04

Right, right, right. So, you know, most of the second season is kind of dealing with the fallout of the first season. You say about, you know, he, he, he kind of dips back into that world, decides not to kind of go on the straight and narrow.

• 34:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 34:16Speaker 04

And then there's a massive kind of chaos agent that is introduced in the season, which is James Morrison's character, who comes in, who's a new guy in the neighborhood. And it's like, who's this dude? And uh, he's, he's not as he appears to be. There's some shadiness and there's some stuff in it. And it, the whole season kind of leads up to how do we manage that? And it's, it's great. It's, it's, it's super compelling television. It's fun. It's funny. It's sexy. It's, it's uh, you know, it's really, I'm, I love the show.

• 34:45Speaker 01

  It's fantastic.

• 34:46Travis Kelce?

I was gonna say, this is, it, it feels like it's, obviously you're, like, your range is crazy. But in terms of this character, it feels a little different. Is this like a new experience for you?

• 34:57Speaker 04

I mean, look, I get having the majority of my kind of notoriety and fame be, be invested in Mad Men. The period piece is a very specific thing, kind of this very brooding, dark character. To be able to play something contemporary that's funny and real and kind of, you know, someone that you could walk down the street and legitimately recognize. If I walked out of the street in Don Draper gear, people are like, what the fuck, what's going on? It's not Halloween, dude. Like, what are you doing? But if I, if I, you know, walked in, in Andrew Cooper gear, it's, this is a normal person. And, and it's uh, so there's a lot of like that familiarity with that kind of character. But also that kind of deal of like the one percent, you know, people that really live that crazy life.

• 35:36Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 35:36Speaker 04

How is that, you know, how does that work out? And is that, is that all there is? Is that the kind of thing that people really want? You know, it's, it's fun. It's a little bit wish fulfillment and kind of fuck you to those people too. So it's.

• 35:48Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 35:48Speaker 04

  No, it's fun.

• 35:49Travis Kelce?

Fuck yeah. I'm always here for a good fuck you.

• 35:52Speaker 04

  It helps, man.

• 35:53Travis Kelce?

Dude, so you mentioned going to UT, kind of being football, isn't it? I want to go a different route. Did you know that acting and?

• 36:02Speaker 04

I had done a lot of acting in high school. I had done it basically since I was a little kid. Um, I was never like a child actor or anything like that, but it was just always something I had. I had raised my single mom. My mom passed away when I was 10, so then I live with my dad. And then, you know, I was always in whatever extracurricular after school activities I could get. You know, whether it was bowling team or Cub Scouts or everything, man. It was literally like, just do that. And so sports was obviously a big part of that. And growing up in Midwest, all you have are empty fields and whatever season it is, that's the sport you play. You know, it's like baseball in the springtime, football in the fall. You know, the winter time was hockey, but I couldn't afford all that gear. So more it was just like whatever we could do.

• 36:45Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 36:45Speaker 04

And it was fun, you know? That was, that was the big part of it. It was growing up as a, as a boy, especially all you have is energy. You just want to like run through a wall. And so when I got into football in, in seventh and eighth grade, when I, when I went to the school I ended up going to, that was the, that was the saving grace, dude. End of the day, you know, all this energy, you're like, let's, let's go hit something, man. Like it was fun and I was decent at it, but, um, but I knew that, you know, that's a choice, as you guys well know, that's a commitment, man. You got to be in, in the weight room, you got to be training, you got to be fit, you got to be ready to go. And I was like, I think I just want to be, I want to do this other thing, which I know I can do at a high level. I'd always gotten good feedback from people that were like, hey, man, you're kind of good at this.

• 37:27Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 37:28Speaker 04

And then it becomes, it's not, I mean, it is, I guess, a lot like football, like you got to get picked. You know what I mean? You can't just go in like, I'm going to be an actor in my room by myself. That's being a crazy person.

• 37:40Travis Kelce?

Well, you got to be a little, little crazy to be good at everything, right?

• 37:43Speaker 04

For sure. So then, you know, it was like you go to either LA or New York, basically.

• 37:47Travis Kelce?

  Right.

• 37:47Speaker 04

It wasn't happening in St. Louis. So I was like, all right, I packed up my shit. I had a hundred and fifty dollars to my name. My grandfather gave me a check for a hundred dollars and that tripled my money.

• 37:56Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 37:56Speaker 04

And I bailed out, I went, I went west, man. And that was it in 1995. So, you know? I've, I've, I've, I felt like I had to give it, give it a try. Or I, or it would have been the two saddest word in, in the Angus language, like what if?

• 38:12Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 38:12Speaker 04

You know, so off I went and it only took three or four years to get it going.

• 38:17Travis Kelce?

I live with that so much because I always say, what if I could have played quarterback? In the National Football League.

• 38:24Speaker 04

  See?

• 38:25Travis Kelce?

I just couldn't put the reefer down, man.

• 38:27Speaker 01

You wanted to be a basketball player. You wanted to be a basketball player is what you wanted to be.

• 38:31Travis Kelce?

I did, I did. I really just wanted to play basketball in the Big East. I knew I didn't have a chance at the NBA. I couldn't fucking dribble, but I knew I could play college basketball for sure. I knew I could fuck, I couldn't guard anybody, but you could put me in the zone.

• 38:43Speaker 01

I mean Shaq can't. Yeah, rebounds.

• 38:45Travis Kelce?

Yeah, exactly. Dude, throwing bows, I'm gonna use all five. That was the one thing playing basketball growing up. My dad came up to me and says, you get five of them. If you don't use three, you're not playing the game right. I was just like, got it. Files out before the, like every game just getting filed out.

• 39:03Speaker 01

So St. Louis, that it is cra- like we talked to, we're obviously really connected with Kansas City, right? Riggel, Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, and I think they used to do like this improv thing as kids or something like that. I think we're talking to them.

• 39:14Travis Kelce?

Yeah, it's around the city, yeah.

• 39:15Speaker 01

It just, I, I've never heard of these paths out of these like small midwestern like markets. Are there like a bunch of like St. Louis people?

• 39:23Speaker 04

Yeah, you know, because I was a teacher. I went back to my, my old high school. I taught school for one year.

• 39:27Travis Kelce?

  So cool, man.

• 39:28Speaker 04

  I graduated Mizzou.

• 39:29Travis Kelce?

  Mizzou?

• 39:30Speaker 04

  Z O U.

• 39:31Travis Kelce?

  All right, man.

• 39:31Speaker 04

I graduated Mizzou at 93 and then I went back and taught at my old high school because I needed a job. Like I was waiting tables and bartending and all the other stuff, but I was like, I need a fucking job. Like I need a real job with a real paycheck and a real schedule. I can't do this anymore because I was so old at 24. And I pitched myself because the guy that was teaching theater at, at my high school who had taught me. I said, you, you, you have too many students. Like you need a, you need a junior teacher. You need a helper.

• 39:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 39:59Speaker 04

And he goes, sounds great. Let's pitch it to the, to the headmaster, the big man. I go, great. And I knew him. He knew me from being a student. I was a really good student. I was a three sport varsity athlete. I was in the theater department. I had good credit.

• 40:09Travis Kelce?

  Qual- quality.

• 40:10Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah.

• 40:11Travis Kelce?

  Qualified.

• 40:11Speaker 04

And I had a, I had a, a theater scholarship from Mizzou and I'd done a bunch of plays and I was like, just let me come in for a year. Try it out. What's the worst thing that could happen? So I did. It was great. They asked me to come back for another year and I was like, I'd love to, but I gotta try this out. I gotta go. I'm not getting any.

• 40:28Travis Kelce?

  Hell yeah.

• 40:28Speaker 04

But one of my students was Ellie Kemper.

• 40:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 40:31Speaker 04

Who was in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with me and Bridesmaids with me and other things. So I was like, I got a chance to walk the red carpet twice with one of my students.

• 40:40Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome.

• 40:40Speaker 04

Um, and yeah, we had, we had a bunch of kids that were really, really good at it. It's sometimes these clusters just kind of happen, you know, that

• 40:47Speaker 01

  Right.

• 40:47Speaker 04

Uh, that the talented kids find their way. Um, and, and I was one of them in my class from my, my graduate class from Burrows in St. Louis, Sarah Clark, uh, was in 24. Like we had a bunch of kids that made it out. So you know what happens.

• 41:02Speaker 01

  Yeah. Very cool.

• 41:03Travis Kelce?

  St. Louis representing.

• 41:04Speaker 04

  Yes, indeed.

• 41:05Travis Kelce?

I love it, man. I, I always feel like anytime I'm like giving back in that regard, like I always find a way to like say something and then it gets reiterated in my brain. Like, man, I kind of got away from that. Like whatever it is I'm teaching or like whatever like the fundamental is or the mindset is.

• 41:23Speaker 04

Yeah. Yeah. It reminds you what you're supposed to be doing.

• 41:25Travis Kelce?

And it kind of makes you stay more sharp on your own fundamentals.

• 41:29Speaker 04

For sure. For sure. Yeah. I would imagine, I mean, I'm sure you guys do youth clinics and whatnot and stuff.

• 41:33Travis Kelce?

  Of course.

• 41:33Speaker 04

Cause the little kids look up to you guys like you're hung.

• 41:36Travis Kelce?

  Dude, you already know.

• 41:36Speaker 01

But even not just that, like every single year you reinstall a playbook.

• 41:40Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 41:40Speaker 01

Right? So like you'd be sitting in this meeting. It's like, how many more times can I listen to like Inside Zone be installed?

• 41:46Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 41:46Speaker 01

Like it is mind numbing to a point where it's like, yeah, I'm going to step with my right foot, check my egg app and yada, yada, yada, right? But, um,

• 41:53Travis Kelce?

And then you go, oh, I forgot.

• 41:54Speaker 01

Every once in a while, yeah, right? Right. Every once in a while, like Stowe would have like the guys teach it or something like that. Right? And it does feel like when you're teaching it or, or a rookie would ask you a question and in your own way of like re-describing, I forgot that I think about it that way. You know what I mean?

• 42:09Speaker 04

Well, the whole point I would imagine, cause it's the same with us, is, is that you do it and you do it and do it until you essentially forget it and it becomes second nature, right? You know how to do it so well.

• 42:18Speaker 01

  Tramples are blacking out.

• 42:19Speaker 04

Yeah. Yeah. Right. For me, it's like.

• 42:22Travis Kelce?

It's nonstop, football's nonstop evolving, like the plays are nonstop evolving, like the more you, the more coverages you see because that play works, you're gonna see different coverage, try and stop it. So the play is nonstop, it's evolving on how I need to run this route, how I need to do this. And then it's like, it gets to the point where it's like, nah, I'm thinking about this coverage, this coverage, this coverage, this coverage, how I'm gonna run it here. And Coach Reed will just come up and he's like, just run the fucking route.

• 42:50Speaker 04

Get it back down, back down to simple. Yeah, for sure.

• 42:53Travis Kelce?

I will just run it how you, how you teach it. I'll run it how you teach it.

• 42:56Speaker 04

That happens every year too, right?

• 42:58Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 42:58Speaker 04

Whoever wins the Super Bowl, everybody imitates them for the next season, right? That's what, basically what happens. Okay, now we're gonna run that and that, that defense is gonna work against this or not.

• 43:06Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 43:07Speaker 04

And they, it's, like you said, it's constantly evolving. And that's what's really fun to watch it. If you, if you love the game and you know the game and you really watch the game kind of at that granular level.

• 43:15Travis Kelce?

  For sure.

• 43:16Speaker 04

That's what becomes really cool. And I think that's like when Romo first came into the booth and was starting to call all that stuff. You're like, holy shit, right? You, you still know this.

• 43:24Travis Kelce?

  Hell, yeah.

• 43:24Speaker 04

  It's, it's like amazing.

• 43:25Travis Kelce?

Absolutely. Obviously, we keep mentioning St. Louis, the Rams. We gotta talk about the Rams cause.

• 43:30Speaker 04

How are you Chiefs Kingdom? Here's what happened. Let me, I'll give you the history of my football rooting.

• 43:34Travis Kelce?

  All right now, please.

• 43:35Speaker 04

And I bring this up to Roger Goodell every time I see him, and I did it again.

• 43:40Speaker 04

1989, the Cardinals moved from St. Louis to Arizona.

• 43:43Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 43:43Speaker 04

So, um, we're fucked. And I go, god damn it. But then they were like, no, you're gonna get an expansion franchise. And we had the name picked out, we had the logo picked out, it was the Stallions, it was terrible fucking thing. But then they go, no, just kidding, it's going to Carolina and Jacksonville. And we were like, fuck, really? God damn it. Then it becomes like, well, maybe we, maybe we can get the Rams to move to St. Louis. And everyone's like, they're not gonna move to St. There's no way. Of course, they build this half a billion dollar stadium, they, hey, all of a sudden the Rams are in St. Louis, 94. The year, next year, I moved to LA. So the Rams are now in St. Louis, but I'm in LA. That's funny. And they're terrible. The first couple of years, they're terrible. Rich Brooks, I can't remember who the,

• 44:26Speaker 04

who the coach was. He came from Oregon. He, he was not ready for the, for the pro game at all. Like, it was just, Tony, who was our quarterback? Oh, my God. Anyway, it was bad until Dick Vermeil shows up. Oh, yeah. And then all of a sudden Kurt Warner shows up, and then Marshall Faulk shows up, and then Isaac Bruce shows up, and then Torrey Holt shows up. And it was like, all of a sudden, this nucleus coalesced, and it was the greatest show on turf. And Mike Martz, OC, and it was like, oh, my God. Like, then it was, football became a thing in St. Louis, and people were crazy. I went to one game at the, at the, at the stadium. And I'll never forget it. It was like, the place was electric.

• 45:04Speaker 04

And I used to go to see football when the Cardinals, with my dad, in minus 10-degree weather, aluminum benches, what are they, seats? Like, aluminum benches, so cold, so deeply cold. Yeah. Um, and this was like indoors, in the dome. There was a play, I'll never forget it. I got, I got there like five minutes late. Luxury football right here. This was St. Louis versus Atlanta. I can't remember what year it was, but I, I got to the game five minutes late. There were five minutes off, or there was a minute off the clock. Cause what had happened was, the first kickoff was run back for a touchdown, and then the ensuing kickoff was run back for touchdown. It was 7-7 before I even got to sit down. That's some action right there.

• 45:44Speaker 04

So, right before the half, it was a 4:30, and they were like, oh, they might as, and they didn't even punt. It was like Warner just lines up under center and throws a dart to Torrey Holder, who, like a, a deep post to Tori, and they score. Yeah. 4:30 right before the half. You're like, okay, this is, this is a team worth watching. I powered offense, man. That was super fun to watch. Then they win the Super Bowl in 2000, and they should have beat the Patriots in 2001. I have a theory about that, but. And then they moved back to LA and then they they moved to back to LA. They'd win the Super Bowl in LA with Stafford.

• 46:18Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 46:18Speaker 04

So that's when I like I got nothing left in St. Louis. Then it's like, well, at least I got the team in Missouri on the other side. And that's the ascendancy of you guys and everybody there. Now they're moving that to Kansas. So I'm like, come on, man.

• 46:33Speaker 04

Where do I go from here? The Battle Hawks? Come on. I mean, I don't know. But it's no, it's still, it's great. Watching, watching the Chiefs come together in the way that they have. Paul and I, Paul Rudd and I have been buddies since high school, since I was 15, he was 17.

• 46:47Travis Kelce?

  Love that dude, man.

• 46:47Speaker 04

We were at the game when the first Super Bowl you guys won. He was there with his son.

• 46:51Travis Kelce?

  Oh, Jack, man.

• 46:52Speaker 04

15 or 16 years old. He was so emotional. He got a bloody nose. He was just like.

• 46:56Travis Kelce?

Ah, I remember that. Hell, yeah.

• 46:58Speaker 04

It was awesome. He got to go down. That was in Miami, I think. Yeah, that was really, really fun. But it's been great. You know, it's been great to watch you. Your success as well. I mean, couldn't happen to two nicer guys. That's all I'll say.

• 47:09Travis Kelce?

To the man, dude. We too got our team shipped as kids. So we know that.

• 47:12Speaker 04

  Yeah, for sure. Right?

• 47:14Travis Kelce?

Yeah. Now I look at the Baltimore Ravens as basically.

• 47:17Speaker 04

  The evil empire.

• 47:17Travis Kelce?

Yes. And what could have been in Cleveland because they had to go on to like win a Super Bowl within the first like five years.

• 47:24Speaker 04

  Yeah, just nonstop success.

• 47:25Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 47:26Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 47:27Travis Kelce?

So is it favorite football player growing up? Either Cardinals or Rams or?

• 47:33Speaker 04

I mean, OJ Anderson, I loved. Mel Gray, I loved. We're going back to the old Cardinals.

• 47:38Travis Kelce?

  Hell, yeah.

• 47:39Speaker 04

Dan Deardorff, who was a lineman, I really loved. I got to know him a little bit afterwards. Rest in peace. He's a great guy. Wonderful, wonderful man. And a huge like supporter of the city. You know, one of those guys who was just like.

• 47:51Travis Kelce?

  Fuck, yeah, man.

• 47:51Speaker 04

Everybody knew Dan. It was like Stan Musial in the Cardinals. It's like everybody knew him. He was around town all the time. You'd see him. He'd say, hey, how you doing? Got a steakhouse. You know, you'd just show up.

• 48:00Travis Kelce?

  That's the best, dude.

• 48:01Speaker 04

That kind of Midwestern thing like it is in KC. I know you guys have the restaurant in KC.

• 48:05Travis Kelce?

We got a crazy ambassador program around there. When I first got there, the first, the first like meeting you have is literally with the ambassadors of the Chiefs. Like the owner, Clark Hong comes in with, it's called the little rookie meeting. And you're sitting there with the guys that have played and stayed around in the city.

• 48:22Speaker 04

  It's nice.

• 48:22Travis Kelce?

You just hear all the stories. R I P Lynn Dawson. He was like one of the first conversations I had in KC. And I'm just like, man, I'm speaking to.

• 48:30Speaker 04

You meet those Hall of Famers and you're like, wow, you know, that's it's real. It's real and it and it really enforces the idea that the community is is is huge. It's a huge part of the success of the franchise. That's why it's so devastating when when the teams, when the teams leave, you're like, come on, man. Like.

• 48:46Travis Kelce?

  It's crazy.

• 48:47Speaker 01

Did you watch any college football this year? Kurt Signetti, the national championship coach.

• 48:51Speaker 04

I didn't see the whole national, I saw the highlights of the game, but I was very much paying attention to Indiana the whole season.

• 48:56Speaker 01

Have you heard of these calls for you to play Kurt Signetti in a movie? No.

• 49:00Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 49:00Speaker 01

Apparently there's a picture running around.

• 49:02Speaker 04

I had a lot of friends that went to IU because that was a big destination. If you're in St. Louis, it was just about a three hour drive. We had some fun, we had some fun weekends up at IU.

• 49:11Travis Kelce?

He's a character now. He's got that old ball coach feel.

• 49:15Speaker 04

  For sure.

• 49:16Speaker 01

  High energy.

• 49:17Travis Kelce?

But even like the new high energy, like the McVays of the world, you know what I mean? Like, like it's a different world, like the, he's just got this like old wisdom.

• 49:26Speaker 04

Well, and he's got the confidence of just like, you're not gonna stop what I'm gonna give you. Sorry.

• 49:32Travis Kelce?

Yeah, you're about to get a taste of this.

• 49:34Speaker 04

What's his quote? I win, Google me.

• 49:38Speaker 04

Damn, okay. I mean, it's, it's pretty baller, like the guy is just straight up, and he does. I mean, how about that? Indiana running the table.

• 49:46Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, I know they got a lot of money behind them too, but that's still crazy.

• 49:49Speaker 04

That's just the new reality. Like Alabama doesn't like.

• 49:53Speaker 01

No, they all do. That's what's, yeah.

• 49:54Travis Kelce?

Seriously, my guy Pat Mahomes over there at Texas Tech.

• 49:57Speaker 04

  Right.

• 49:57Travis Kelce?

  Have oil money down there.

• 49:58Speaker 04

  Yep, they're, they're ready.

• 50:00Travis Kelce?

How did you guys get all these transfers? In every sport.

• 50:03Speaker 04

TCU, all those, all those kind of places that were historically were kind of second tier things. And IU, like now all of a sudden, which is, I don't know, I think it's kind of great.

• 50:13Speaker 01

  Yeah, no, I think.

• 50:14Travis Kelce?

It's a nice, it's a nice refresh. I mean, Alabama was on a run there for a while.

• 50:18Speaker 04

It was, yeah, yeah, you think? And it's like, all right, it feels like now the tables are at least a little more even.

• 50:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:25Speaker 04

  Right?

• 50:25Travis Kelce?

  I'm with you.

• 50:26Speaker 04

It's not just the haves and have nots. The haves and the have more's, but whatever.

• 50:31Travis Kelce?

No, I'm with you. I love it.

• 50:32Speaker 01

We're big fans of comedies. What's your favorite comedy movie?

• 50:35Speaker 04

  Comedy movie?

• 50:36Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 50:37Travis Kelce?

  Ooh.

• 50:38Speaker 04

Well, that's a good question. Um, I mean, look, it, I, I, I had the good fortune to be able to remake Fletch, which is one of my absolute favorites. And I had the good fortune to meet Chevy. I was, I met him. He kinda, he kinda ambushed me in the, in the LAX airport lounge. Yeah. It was like seven o'clock in the morning and I was actually getting ready to fly to, to Fort Worth to, to do Landman. Okay. And I'm scooping out my shitty microwaved eggs or whatever in the, in the lounge. You know exactly what I'm getting ready, you know, you're like, oh boy, it's too early for anything, but I gotta get something.

• 51:12Travis Kelce?

I gotta get something to get.

• 51:13Speaker 04

I hear this guy go, hey, I heard you played Fletch and I turn around, it's Chevy Chase and I was like, oh my God. That's insane. I go, yes, I did, Mr. Chase. Oh my God, I'm so, it's so nice to meet you. I love all your work. I, I, I, all I do was, was watch your movies growing up. I loved doing SNL. Like I just love bombed the guy. I like. Yeah. Floored him with the avalanche of like, and I was getting ready to go work with Demi Moore and one, my wife's favorite movie, one of my wife's favorite movies is, is this movie that you probably, if you've seen it, good luck. It's called Nothing But Trouble. Nothing But Trouble. Directed by Dan Aykroyd. Dan Aykroyd plays like this weird, crazy character. It's, it's nuts. Look it up.

• 51:49Travis Kelce?

  I gotta watch that one.

• 51:49Speaker 04

But it's a, it's, it's a Chevy and Demi Moore. So I said, I'm actually starring with one of your co-stars. Yeah. I'll give her my best, this, that and the other. Anyways. So cool. It starts with Fletch, but then.

• 51:59Travis Kelce?

I thought he was gonna come in hot with something.

• 52:01Speaker 04

  Well, I did too.

• 52:02Travis Kelce?

  Chevy's that guy.

• 52:02Speaker 04

  I did too.

• 52:03Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I was waiting for the, I was waiting for the dude.

• 52:06Speaker 04

  The judo love, you know?

• 52:09Travis Kelce?

  You already know, that's hilarious.

• 52:10Speaker 04

Judo love, that's good. Cause I've, I've felt like there might've been a little, a little shot underneath. Yeah, yeah. But no, I thought, all of his movies, I mean, he went on a run. You look at Caddyshack, you look at Fletch, that whole.

• 52:22Travis Kelce?

That's what we grew up on.

• 52:23Speaker 04

My, yeah, the eighties, my, my, that was what you did. You rented movies. That was all you did throughout high school. It was just, you rent them, rent five movies, watch them five times over the weekend. And that was it. But I, man, uh, Big Lebowski, that's another one that I absolutely love. You know, I got a chance to work with Jeff Bridges, uh, in my career. So, you know, it's, I'm.

• 52:45Travis Kelce?

  Bad Times.

• 52:46Speaker 04

  Bad Times, the OREL.

• 52:47Travis Kelce?

Yeah, dude. I love that fucking movie.

• 52:49Speaker 04

I mean, it's a great film. I make great movies that nobody sees. That's, uh, that's kind of, I actually got, I made a movie called Million Dollar Arm. It was based on the career of this guy, JB Bernstein, who represents Barry Sanders. Uh, and he was at the honors last night, so I was able to say hi to him. And he is funny, he's, you know, he's this tall and he's just hard worker. He goes, I can't believe you got to play me. I go, I got to play you. You got me to play you.

• 53:17Speaker 04

But, you know, having a career, doing it as long as I've been able to do it, it's really nice to be able to look back and be, be proud of what you, what you've done and to work with the people that you've gotten a chance to work with.

• 53:27Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah.

• 53:27Speaker 04

All of that stuff is amazing, you know, it's, it's, uh, being in something like Top Gun.

• 53:31Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 53:32Speaker 04

That, I remember walking on that set and there's a six story high American flag and Tom Cruise is walking toward me. All I could see is a smile.

• 53:40Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 53:40Speaker 04

Walking toward me and I was like, how you doing?

• 53:43Travis Kelce?

  Energy through the roof, dude.

• 53:45Speaker 04

  Are you ready to go?

• 53:45Travis Kelce?

  I'm like, I am, bro.

• 53:48Travis Kelce?

Thanks for the cup and gel right there.

• 53:50Speaker 04

Uh, but I was like, this must be weird for you. This is the same set that you shot on 25 years ago. Is this weird? He goes, it's crazy. It's crazy. We're doing it again. I'm like, alright, let's go.

• 54:02Travis Kelce?

  That's amazing.

• 54:03Speaker 04

  It was fun, man.

• 54:04Travis Kelce?

Well, I, uh, I share an honor with you of, uh, standing on that SNL stage, man. When I tell you still to this day, one of the coolest fucking things I've ever done. Um, your time on SNL, do you have a favorite skit? Do you have a?

• 54:18Speaker 04

  A couple.

• 54:18Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, I was gonna say.

• 54:19Speaker 04

I mean, I have, I have a couple, man. I've hosted four times and I was, and I was, I've been on the show like probably 15 more times. And it's, it's, it's such a unique experience, as you know, there's, there's not a whole lot out there like live television. I also did two 30 Rock lives on that same stage. So it's super fun, but when I first started hosting, I had the home run hitters, man. I had the, the all-stars. It was Wig, Forte, Armisen, Sudeikis.

• 54:43Travis Kelce?

  Legends.

• 54:44Speaker 04

Everybody on that show were, were, were just, were just home run hitters. So the ones I did with Wig, we had so much fun. The woman, she's the, don't make me sing, so fun. I did a, a sketch with Will Forte that would never get on the air now. That was a Halloween sketch where Will comes to the door, rings the bell. I answer the door and he's, he says, happy Halloween. I said, are you, what are you dressed at? He says, I'm a child molester. Can you sign and date these papers? I'm like, wait, what? What's hap- what actually is happening? Look it up. It would never get on the air again, but oh, boy, it was funny. Uh, so I know I have, I have tons of great memories like that.

• 55:23Speaker 04

And as you well know, man, when you're getting ready to go on that stage and that band is playing and thumping and ready to go.

• 55:30Travis Kelce?

Behind that door, man, that is a.

• 55:31Speaker 04

And no one realizes it, but there's about a foot behind that door. You were up against the wall of that thing.

• 55:36Travis Kelce?

  Shoulders are touching the door.

• 55:38Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah, it's the same thing. And then she's screaming out five, four, three. There you go. You shot out of a cannon and you hold on for dear life, but it's fun, man.

• 55:46Travis Kelce?

  It's so much fucking fun.

• 55:47Speaker 04

You looked like you were having a good time on it. I noticed that.

• 55:50Travis Kelce?

We grew up on the Pharaohs and the Farley's and Sanders. So it's like, that was inch heavy. Like my, my mom and dad were huge, like SNL.

• 55:59Speaker 04

It was a cultural moment and it's so funny thinking back because I watched it when I was a little kid. I mentioned my, my, my parents split up when I was younger. If I was at my dad's house for the weekend, I got to watch Saturday Night Live.

• 56:12Travis Kelce?

  Little lucy, little acro.

• 56:14Speaker 04

For sure. And like super inappropriate. I was five, six years old, like, you know, whatever. But I was, I was into the land shark and the, you know.

• 56:22Travis Kelce?

  Oh, yeah. So fucking cool.

• 56:24Speaker 04

All the stuff, man. It was so good. It was so, cause it was so transgressive. There wasn't anything like it. And if you didn't see it, you didn't see it. There was no DVR. There was no clips on the next day.

• 56:36Travis Kelce?

  Crazy to even imagine nowadays.

• 56:37Speaker 04

You had to talk to, you know, you had to go to school the next day and not, or Monday and not had, have seen SNL.

• 56:44Travis Kelce?

And be a part of those combos.

• 56:45Speaker 04

You were on your back, you were on your back foot, man. It was not great.

• 56:48Speaker 01

  Absolutely.

• 56:48Travis Kelce?

  Funny as fuck.

• 56:49Speaker 01

All right, last one. Welcome to Hollywood moment. Do you have one?

• 56:53Speaker 04

I remember, I mean, like I said, I had, I had no money when I, when I. When I rolled into Hollywood and then I remember I'd gone, I had to go back to St. Louis to do a play that got me my equity card that got me into the union that got me into the this and that. Then I got my car towed because I had like $2,000 worth of parking tickets that I wasn't sniffing being able to pay. Yeah. So then one day I just looked outside. I was like, well, I guess that's gone. So now I'm on the bus. Okay. And I was working a restaurant job and trying to audition and you know, it's LA is not a easy place to use public transportation. I was gonna say, yeah. So I remember I had, I had roller blades and I would throw the roller blades over my shoulder, get on the bus.

• 57:38Speaker 04

Stop it. As close as I could get to wherever my audition was and then. Blading it out.

• 57:43Travis Kelce?

You were blading it around LA?

• 57:45Speaker 04

In LA. I mean, not safe. So I'd show up sweaty as a motherfucker to whatever commercial audition, the ivory soap or whatever, you know, just being like, I don't think I'm gonna get this. I look like a hundred pounds of dirty laundry right now. But uh, yeah, I mean, it's, you just do what you can. You, you, you, ain't nothing to it but to do it. That was the first lesson I learned was like, listen, no one's gonna give you any excuse. You just gotta figure it out. You gotta send a man can't live with those what ifs. Yeah. And you just, and you gotta figure it out. You know, it's like, it's hard. Life is hard. I remember uh, my best friend growing up, he was the best man at my wedding. Uh, his dad played professional baseball, Ted Simmons. Maybe you know, maybe don't. Oh, yeah.

• 58:27Speaker 04

Hall of Fame. Great guy, wonderful man, kind of a surrogate dad to me after my dad passed away especially. And uh, when I was going through, you know, all my transitional difficulties and whatever, trying to figure out where am I gonna go? How am I gonna make it? My dad just died. What am I gonna do? He goes, look, a lot of sad stories in the world, a lot of sad stories. I played with guys that grew up, not only did they not have parents, they didn't have a glove, you know, but they were, they were gifted, you know, that they grew up in the Dominican, they grew up wherever and they, they just made it happen. Mm-hmm. No one's gonna make it happen for you. You gotta make it happen for yourself. And I really took that lesson to heart. I still do every day. It's like, it's on you. To figure it out. And I've, listen, we're all very, very fortunate in our lives, right?

• 59:10Travis Kelce?

  You already know.

• 59:11Speaker 04

For sure. Not just health, but, but career opportunities, all the other things.

• 59:15Travis Kelce?

Getting picked, like you said, man.

• 59:17Speaker 04

Getting picked. But it's what you do after you get picked. Do you come, do you come correct? Do you, do you show up? You know, we can all get in the batter's box and, and no one bats a thousand.

• 59:27Travis Kelce?

  Right.

• 59:27Speaker 04

No one. But if you, if you show up and you prepared and you're ready to go, that's what, that's what it's all about. And I've been a really fortunate in my career that I've had those moments. I'll never forget the first day shooting Mad Men. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and going, okay, you got the job. What are you gonna do with it?

• 59:43Travis Kelce?

  Hell yeah, man.

• 59:44Speaker 04

  And it was that moment.

• 59:45Travis Kelce?

  That's great.

• 59:46Speaker 04

It was that moment where I was like, I'm gonna fucking kill this. I'm gonna kill it. That's what I'm gonna do with it.

• 59:50Travis Kelce?

  That's so badass, dog.

• 59:51Speaker 04

It was, it's, it's challenging. It ain't easy.

• 59:53Travis Kelce?

  I don't know.

• 59:54Speaker 04

If everybody could do it, everybody would.

• 59:55Travis Kelce?

Yeah, but that's the beauty of it being that challenging though, is because when you fight through and you get to, you know, where you are now.

• 1:00:01Speaker 04

You look at, uh, Bobby last night, Bobby Wright, man.

• 1:00:05Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:05Speaker 04

  What a story.

• 1:00:06Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:07Speaker 04

Dude. It's those kinds, those kinds of stories that you go, all right, you know.

• 1:00:11Travis Kelce?

I had no idea about Bobby and his, and his story like that. So I, that was another, like, I've always appreciated his game.

• 1:00:18Speaker 04

  For sure.

• 1:00:19Travis Kelce?

And then all of a sudden, you just, you, when you get underneath that face mask, all of a sudden you get to hear, you know, how, how amazing the guy really is.

• 1:00:26Speaker 04

  Yeah, crazy.

• 1:00:27Travis Kelce?

We'll let you get out of here, brother. Thank you for all the fucking time.

• 1:00:29Speaker 04

  Thank you so much.

• 1:00:30Travis Kelce?

Thank you for the wisdom, man.

• 1:00:31Speaker 04

  Gentlemen, gentlemen.

• 1:00:31Travis Kelce?

My pleasure. Go, dog. Can't wait to see, uh, everything that you got.

• 1:00:35Speaker 04

Season two coming out April 3rd?

• 1:00:38Travis Kelce?

  3rd.

• 1:00:38Speaker 04

  The 3rd, baby.

• 1:00:40Speaker 01

  Thank you, your partner, Apple.

Thank you to Jon Hamm. Once again, that conversation was brought to you by Apple.

• 1:02:41Travis Kelce?

Last thing before we wrap up, let's take a look at the old New Heights, Greases, March Madness Bracket Challenge.

• 1:02:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, baby.

• 1:02:50Travis Kelce?

Having some upsets, some incredible games. How about that UConn-Duke ending?

• 1:02:56Speaker 01

  That was insane.

• 1:02:56Travis Kelce?

  Yeah, that was absolutely insane.

• 1:02:58Speaker 01

I was watching that on my iPad because we were on vacation this week and audibly screamed in a.

• 1:03:05Travis Kelce?

I hadn't jumped out of my seat from a sporting event in a long time and it was fucking magical. When he fucking hit that three, I was like, in my mind, I'm like, too much time when he threw it up. And I was just like, I was just fucking, he drained it.

• 1:03:22Speaker 01

The moment the ball got tipped, you're like, oh, no.

• 1:03:25Travis Kelce?

They're gonna have a chance to chuck a three. And then they passed it. He caught it. Didn't like anything. So he just fucking threw it to the first open guy. Oh, man. Yeah, it was so fucking epic.

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

He also said shit on live television, I believe, when he was in his post-game talk with the reporter on the court.

• 1:03:45Travis Kelce?

Freshman, freshman, getting used to the whole situation, a lot of emotions. I get it, man. And also, who didn't say shit at some point, even the head coach is like mom is in the stands saying, holy fucking shit.

• 1:04:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, right.

• 1:04:01Travis Kelce?

  It was epic, dude.

• 1:04:02Speaker 01

Yeah, Dan Hurley, obviously head butting officials. Always love to see that.

• 1:04:05Travis Kelce?

Well, let's get into our bracket. Shout out to the 92 percenters and the leaders of the women's bracket.

• 1:04:12Speaker 01

Emily in Toronto is in the lead. In second place, we got Amanda Trujillo, who both have UConn winning. And then we have somebody rolling with the Gamecocks, Vanessa Bletcha. I don't know if any of these names are pronounced correctly. Sorry if they're not.

• 1:04:26Travis Kelce?

But congratulations. That's uh, you're doing some pretty good job.

• 1:04:30Speaker 01

It does seem like if the Gamecocks win, Vanessa might have a chance.

• 1:04:35Travis Kelce?

  Ooh.

• 1:04:36Speaker 01

All right. Men's leaders, we have Connor, who has got Michigan. Second place, we have Abby Pierce rolling with the Illini. The Illini, I did not know that the Illini, I have not watched college basketball.

• 1:04:48Travis Kelce?

Yeah, that was one of the highlights I remember seeing and these, these boys know how to hoop, man.

• 1:04:53Speaker 01

I'm enjoying watching them. I mean, they knocked out my team. Fucking Houston, god damn it. They forgot how to play offense. But anyways, great job to the Serbs. The Balkans, dude, the Balkans are killing it, man. They're freaking lighting it up. A lot of itches and witches.

• 1:05:07Travis Kelce?

  Abby Pierce.

• 1:05:08Speaker 01

Koyakoviches. Yeah, no, they're killing it. Uh, James Lewison, UConn, uh, they got one in James has UConn and then Austin Stilger has Arizona. All right. So the top four all have different teams. I do think Arizona's gonna win, although I did think Houston was gonna win. So what the fuck do I know? I also watched no basketball.

• 1:05:29Travis Kelce?

I'm not gonna lie. I'm fucking jacked up. I'm pumped up right now because this is gonna be a hell of a final four, man. These teams, I think, all match up pretty goddamn well. And Michigan's been playing their tail off. I didn't know how big Michigan was, man. Michigan's got like a NBA fucking front court, man. But it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna be fun to watch these guys go. And it looks like UConn's got the juice right now after that last win against Duke. Yeah, New Heights staff updates currently tied for first. Uh, in the men's bracket, our intern Brandon and researcher Diana, who both have Arizona winning it all. Jason is in second, but had Houston winning it. Travis is in third. That's me. Also have Arizona winning it. So I can't pass Brandon or Diana, but I can take over Jason.

• 1:06:13Speaker 01

  You will pass me.

• 1:06:14Travis Kelce?

Probably. All right. Jack Shake is in sixth, but we'll win it all if Michigan makes the finals. Oh, wow.

• 1:06:23Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:06:23Travis Kelce?

  That's crazy.

• 1:06:24Speaker 01

  This is a tight race.

• 1:06:26Travis Kelce?

Yeah. Um, in the women's bracket, Brandon and Diana also tied for first. Okay. They watch basketball and Brandon has Texas winning and Diana has UConn winning it. Jason is in second with South Carolina winning it and no one from the New Heights production team picked UCLA to win it all. I don't know why that's in there. All right. New Heights staffer, uh, that is in trouble. Men's loser with a whopping zero points gained after her round of 32. Uh, our official loser of the men's bracket is our producer, Aaron Loric. Sorry, Aaron. Um, apologize for throwing you under the bus there. We gotta do better though.

• 1:07:05Speaker 01

  It's honestly insane.

• 1:07:07Travis Kelce?

I don't know if I ever had seen anybody with zero points gained after the round of 32.

• 1:07:14Speaker 01

He missed, like even if you're flipping a coin and picking, he missed all 16 games.

• 1:07:19Travis Kelce?

  That's crazy.

• 1:07:20Speaker 01

  That's wild.

• 1:07:21Travis Kelce?

It was upset central over there in Aaron's bracket. He definitely just, he definitely just clicked. There's a click that says you can have it automatically filled out. He hit that for sure. Guaranteed. Um, I say that because the women's loser and finally with 68, uh, points, but no more points remaining, uh, our official loser of the women's bracket is me.

• 1:07:46Speaker 01

Yes, it is. How are we feeling, Trav?

• 1:07:49Travis Kelce?

Feel pretty upset that I let it get to this point. Um, but, um, you know, you just gotta do better in life and you gotta understand the circumstances better. And you gotta understand that your brother is going to go out and cheat and there's nothing you could do about it.

• 1:08:06Speaker 01

What are you so upset about, Travis? Why are you so upset? What are you so upset about?

• 1:08:08Travis Kelce?

What am I so upset about is that this was just a friendly competition. And then after I submitted my fucking bracket and you hadn't submitted a bracket yet, we decide as they grew.

• 1:08:24Speaker 01

This is a false timeline. This is a false timeline.

• 1:08:27Travis Kelce?

Let him talk, let him talk, let him talk. During the show.

• 1:08:30Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:08:30Travis Kelce?

You started to fill out a bracket, did you not?

• 1:08:34Speaker 01

No, I did not fill out a bracket. I was talking about

• 1:08:36Travis Kelce?

What were we doing in the show, Brandon?

• 1:08:37Speaker 01

In the show, in the show, I literally told you guys, I have not even looked at the brackets yet.

• 1:08:43Travis Kelce?

  It's true.

• 1:08:43Speaker 01

How am I supposed to do a bracket recap?

• 1:08:45Travis Kelce?

  Yes.

• 1:08:45Speaker 01

And I just started bullshitting a final four.

• 1:08:47Travis Kelce?

And then you gave us a final four.

• 1:08:49Speaker 01

And then we talked about there being some type of punishment for the loser on the show. But the, on the show.

• 1:08:58Speaker 01

Because I didn't know that we were doing a, a play for keys.

• 1:09:01Speaker 06

No, you can make bracket adjustments until it's due. You can make adjustments until it's due.

• 1:09:06Speaker 01

Thank you, Brandon. Thank you, Brandon.

• 1:09:07Speaker 06

You just closed because you closed.

• 1:09:08Speaker 01

Nobody had submitted it. I didn't submit it. I didn't submit a bracket.

• 1:09:12Travis Kelce?

I already had submitted it because I did.

• 1:09:14Speaker 01

  You had not.

• 1:09:15Speaker 06

No, neither of you, neither of you had looked at the bracket. Neither of you looked at the bracket. We recorded the show under false pretenses. Neither of you even looked at the bracket.

• 1:09:22Speaker 01

Erroneous, erroneous timeline. You are misleading. You are misleading with the timeline.

• 1:09:28Travis Kelce?

  Fucking bullring, nose piercing.

• 1:09:31Speaker 06

  Well, that's a new, that's

• 1:09:32Travis Kelce?

Have Howard beating fucking Michigan? No, I wouldn't.

• 1:09:38Speaker 06

  You thought they were due.

• 1:09:39Speaker 01

I'm just gonna throw it out there. Your bracket was not submitted until after we talked about there being a punishment on the show episode.

• 1:09:46Speaker 06

Punishments were talked about. Punishments were talked about.

• 1:09:48Speaker 01

  That is a true statement.

• 1:09:49Speaker 06

We hadn't decided on one, but the idea that your punishments could, was gonna come up.

• 1:09:53Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:09:53Speaker 06

Nobody's gonna have to get pierced. We're not piercing you. We're not gonna pierce you.

• 1:09:57Travis Kelce?

The women's bracket, you're right. I took a chance on Iowa. That's fair.

• 1:10:00Speaker 06

Dude, women's bracket, just slide that everyone's forward. Just slide that everyone's forward.

• 1:10:04Speaker 01

What is the, is there a punishment for both brackets or only for the men's bracket?

• 1:10:07Speaker 06

The punishments are for New Heights team members only.

• 1:10:10Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 1:10:10Speaker 06

And I believe we already have our loser of the men's.

• 1:10:13Travis Kelce?

I trusted the power of Katelyn Clark, Claire Kittle and George Kittle.

• 1:10:19Speaker 06

Oh, little name drop. I like to work the name drop in there. That's good.

• 1:10:22Speaker 01

  That's good.

• 1:10:23Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 1:10:25Speaker 06

  George and Katelyn.

• 1:10:27Speaker 01

I don't know if you've heard of them.

• 1:10:28Speaker 06

I don't know if you guys heard, ah, my friend, I just call her Kate.

• 1:10:31Speaker 01

I may be a loser in the bracket, but I'm a winner in life.

• 1:10:34Travis Kelce?

You just feel the energy from you. Like, those are good people. I'm gonna pick Iowa.

• 1:10:38Speaker 01

In the women's bracket. Would have been good. You did pick them in the men's as well, which paid off.

• 1:10:43Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I didn't have them go into this lead eight though.

• 1:10:46Speaker 01

So the bet is only for the men's bracket? We're not incorporating the loser of the women's bracket?

• 1:10:50Speaker 06

Oh, no, I know. That is, whoa, no, yeah, yeah.

• 1:10:54Speaker 01

So how, what is the ratio? How do, how did we figure this out? How's, how's it determined? Who lost? Who is the loser of both brackets?

• 1:11:02Travis Kelce?

Yeah, I'm glad we're figuring this out at the end of it. This is awesome. Give it to me, Brandon. I know you got something.

• 1:11:07Speaker 06

No, Travis, you've, you've already lost the women's. Tell me what I've lost. Tell me what I've lost. The women's bracket. You lost the, you lost the women's bracket.

• 1:11:14Speaker 01

So who has to eat the waffles at the Waffle House?

• 1:11:19Speaker 06

Well, if that's the punishment we'd like, Travis might be joining.

• 1:11:22Travis Kelce?

  Wait, what?

• 1:11:23Speaker 01

Oh, so two people. So the loser.

• 1:11:27Speaker 06

The women's, you lost the women's.

• 1:11:29Speaker 01

So there's gonna be two people that have to do this.

• 1:11:31Speaker 06

I feel like we should do two punishments. Yeah.

• 1:11:33Speaker 01

  Ah.

• 1:11:34Speaker 06

  Punishments.

• 1:11:35Travis Kelce?

Do you guys understand how betting works?

• 1:11:37Speaker 01

We talked about there being a punishment, Travis. We all agreed to a punishment.

• 1:11:40Speaker 06

We all agreed to it. There was a blood oath.

• 1:11:41Travis Kelce?

We agreed to the, agreed to.

• 1:11:43Speaker 06

We said it on mic. We said it on mic. On mic is sacred.

• 1:11:45Travis Kelce?

We also said on mic, Jason's final four in the men's bracket.

• 1:11:50Speaker 06

Well, he didn't submit. He didn't submit.

• 1:11:52Speaker 01

You can put anything you win there before you hit submit. It doesn't count.

• 1:11:54Speaker 06

You can do whatever you want till the ball is snapped.

• 1:11:56Speaker 01

You think I'm gonna trust Wyatt? Travis?

• 1:11:58Travis Kelce?

I did. I did. I trusted your daughter and your daughter has no integrity. She knows fucking nothing.

• 1:12:03Speaker 01

Well, let me tell you, she does know nothing. She is six.

• 1:12:09Travis Kelce?

So what are you teaching her over there, huh? She doesn't even know who'd win in a fight between Michigan and Howard.

• 1:12:16Speaker 01

She's starting to figure out how to use her numbers to do math above the number 10, Travis.

• 1:12:20Speaker 06

  Hell, yeah.

• 1:12:20Speaker 01

That's who you trusted to, to even get 16.

• 1:12:23Travis Kelce?

We gotta get her in the advanced classes, Jason.

• 1:12:26Speaker 01

She can barely count to the number of teams in the NCAA tournament.

• 1:12:30Travis Kelce?

There's no way. She's six years old and can't count?

• 1:12:33Speaker 01

She can. She can definitely count. I said barely.

• 1:12:36Speaker 06

  Takes a second.

• 1:12:37Speaker 01

Once, once she gets to 100, it starts to get a little dicey, but she's.

• 1:12:43Speaker 06

Does she, does she just do that thing where she just starts counting and just wants you to know how high she can count?

• 1:12:48Speaker 01

  Yes, we're in that stage.

• 1:12:49Speaker 06

I was, I was hanging out with some, some children. They're like, you wanna see something cool? And I was like, sure. And they're like, you wanna Ohio count? I was like, oh, fuck, no, I don't. And then they just went. We got to 45. I was like, do you wanna go outside?

• 1:12:59Speaker 01

Welcome to 98, 98 bottles of beer on the wall, but we're not gonna stop early. We're gonna keep it going.

• 1:13:05Speaker 06

Do you wanna know how I can count? I'm like, oh, no, that sucks. That's a terrible trick.

• 1:13:09Travis Kelce?

I don't know. I think you can kinda, you can kinda shut your brain off once they start counting, right? You don't have to like keep them honest.

• 1:13:15Speaker 01

You'd be surprised. You'd be surprised.

• 1:13:17Travis Kelce?

You could just let them go.

• 1:13:18Speaker 06

  No, they demand attention.

• 1:13:20Speaker 01

  Heard it a bunch.

• 1:13:22Speaker 06

  Do you want to?

• 1:13:23Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:13:24Speaker 06

  Let's do, let's maybe podcast.

• 1:13:26Speaker 01

So the men's bracket is still up. Oh, there is a loser in the men's bracket. Who's the loser in the men's bracket?

• 1:13:30Speaker 06

Aaron, we could do one overall loser of combined worst score.

• 1:13:34Speaker 01

Would you guys rather do that?

• 1:13:35Speaker 06

Would you guys rather do that? Yeah.

• 1:13:37Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 1:13:39Speaker 06

Well, then what do you want to do? You're being fussy.

• 1:13:41Speaker 01

Can we stop acting like eating waffles at a Waffle House is that big of a punishment?

• 1:13:45Speaker 06

As long as you do it before training camp, you're fine.

• 1:13:47Travis Kelce?

But how do I, in every waffle is an hour?

• 1:13:50Speaker 06

Here's Aaron. Aaron, explain your fucking waffle bracket.

• 1:13:53Travis Kelce?

You got 24 hours and every waffle is an hour.

• 1:13:55Speaker 07

Especially waffles, like if I eat a blueberry waffle, can I add like an extra 30 minutes taken off? Or like, no, here's straight.

• 1:14:02Speaker 06

  No.

• 1:14:02Speaker 01

No, I will not allow it.

• 1:14:03Speaker 06

Aaron, I know your, your work hours. You have nothing but time.

• 1:14:06Speaker 07

  Hey.

• 1:14:06Speaker 06

Travis is the one who's got stuff going on.

• 1:14:08Travis Kelce?

I'd rather do a drinking situation than do a fucking waffle situation like this. I'd rather have to sit at a bar from start to finish.

• 1:14:16Speaker 07

  Can we go to Chili's?

• 1:14:17Speaker 01

The punishment isn't about what you would rather do, loser. The punishment is a punishment.

• 1:14:23Travis Kelce?

We didn't agree that this is gonna be a punishment.

• 1:14:26Speaker 01

We agreed to a punishment though.

• 1:14:28Speaker 06

We did agree to a punishment. That is, that is on record, but he did agree to a punishment.

• 1:14:31Speaker 01

A drinking festivities with your buddy, Aaron.

• 1:14:34Speaker 06

What if we ask, uh, one of our guests today, Coach Calhoun, what the punishment should be?

• 1:14:39Travis Kelce?

  No.

• 1:14:41Speaker 06

We're gonna do Coach Calhoun. I'm gonna ask him. That's my one question to Coach Calhoun.

• 1:14:44Speaker 01

Aaron, how did you not get a single Sweet 16 team?

• 1:14:46Speaker 07

  Fuck if I know, guy. I don't, I don't watch college basketball.

• 1:14:50Speaker 06

  Neither do I.

• 1:14:51Speaker 01

  Neither do I.

• 1:14:52Speaker 06

None of us did. That's not an excuse.

• 1:14:54Travis Kelce?

And fucking asked his fucking ESPN colleague that is a professional in sports gambling.

• 1:15:00Speaker 01

I did not. I did not.

• 1:15:02Travis Kelce?

Who's gonna fucking win? What fucking job? It is so redistinct. Jason fucking cheated so bad and you guys are just gonna.

• 1:15:09Speaker 06

Here we go. Now here's the real accusation. Let's get into this.

• 1:15:12Speaker 01

I did not ask an ESPN colleague. I asked my best friend Corey Sims, who used to be an equipment manager for the Cincinnati Bearcats, who is now my financial advisor, and he gave me the lowdown.

• 1:15:24Speaker 06

  He's the money man.

• 1:15:24Speaker 01

  We went astray with Houston.

• 1:15:26Travis Kelce?

You're right. You're right. You gave it to, you, you, you had somebody else value. Your bracket, which is my entire. I wanted to win. I would have had somebody else.

• 1:15:34Speaker 01

We sold it out together. We sold it out together.

• 1:15:36Travis Kelce?

I could have fucking called Jay fucking Billis and told Jay, hey, what's your bracket? Let me copy every fucking answer.

• 1:15:42Speaker 07

  You cheated, Jason.

• 1:15:43Speaker 06

A little name drop there. A little name drop from Travis.

• 1:15:45Speaker 01

  Would have been smart.

• 1:15:45Travis Kelce?

  I know Jay Billis.

• 1:15:46Speaker 01

  Call teamwork. Call teamwork, guys.

• 1:15:48Speaker 07

That's called collusion. That is called collusion.

• 1:15:51Travis Kelce?

  It's not collusion.

• 1:15:53Speaker 01

It's called teamwork. I'm giving Corey credit. I'm not telling you that I picked the names. I'm saying I went to my buddy who's an expert because I don't know shit about fucking basketball. And I asked a guy that I used to go.

• 1:16:02Travis Kelce?

The fun of it, Jason. I do.

• 1:16:05Speaker 06

First place in both men's and women's ball, no one right here.

• 1:16:08Travis Kelce?

You did not. No, you didn't. You didn't even pick Texas. Stop it.

• 1:16:11Speaker 01

I can't believe you guys don't want to go hang out in a Waffle House.

• 1:16:14Speaker 06

We don't have Waffle Houses in California. You gotta find something else.

• 1:16:16Speaker 07

Yeah. I mean, if it was a Waffle House, at least it's like, you know, waffle on a show. There might be a fight. So that's a positive.

• 1:16:21Speaker 06

If you get in a fight at the Waffle House, you can leave immediately.

• 1:16:23Travis Kelce?

  Oh, let's do it.

• 1:16:25Speaker 07

Wait, hold on. Hold on. If I get a fight at the Waffle House, are you guys, is the company covering my legal fees?

• 1:16:29Speaker 06

  Uh, I will. No.

• 1:16:31Travis Kelce?

  I'm sorry. What was that?

• 1:16:32Speaker 06

No, we do have no lawyers or H R on this staff.

• 1:16:35Speaker 01

Next week, we're also going to announce the winners of our Reese's and New Heights Bracket Challenge. So tune into that.

• 1:16:41Travis Kelce?

And the last thing, there was another huge basketball story this week and we had to get this guy on to talk about it. That's right.

• 1:16:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, baby.

• 1:16:48Travis Kelce?

And toss it to the old University of Cincinnati ball coach.

• 1:16:54Speaker 08

  What's up, boys?

• 1:16:55Speaker 01

Welcome back, Coach. How we feeling?

• 1:16:57Speaker 08

Oh, man. Exhausted. It's never ending.

• 1:17:02Speaker 08

Like a never ending cycle. You wake up, you go to sleep for four hours and just deal with the chaos from start to finish. But it's good to be back, man.

• 1:17:11Travis Kelce?

Oh, man. I had, that was my favorite question because everybody loves to talk about the old chili down there in Cincinnati. And I'm very curious, what's your, what was your first culinary stop? What was your first like go to? I gotta get some food. I've missed it so much since I've, since I've left.

• 1:17:26Speaker 08

Well, it hasn't been Skyline yet. Uh, honestly, it's been the, uh, it's been the football cafeteria, man. It's the closest thing.

• 1:17:35Travis Kelce?

  There you go, man.

• 1:17:37Speaker 08

Tell you what, you guys built a heck of a facility, guys. Wow, that thing is a beast.

• 1:17:42Travis Kelce?

I'm assuming it's been pretty crazy for you because you're, you've been kind of separated from the university longer than we have. How crazy is it seeing how much the campus has grown since you, since you're being back?

• 1:17:52Speaker 08

Yeah, man, I told Hugs, I told all those former players that were there, it's, can't even recognize it, honestly. You know, when I was here, man, this, this was kind of a school in the, in the inner city and, you know, like a commuter type school, to be honest with you. And it's just changed so much, man. It's, it's a phenomenal institution. We have a ton to sell, man. I, I think this thing's gonna be great.

• 1:18:14Speaker 01

Yeah, it's remarkable. Every time I go back, like, you know, obviously the facilities for the sport, for the football team, basketball team are all pretty brand new. But it's not even just that. Like, around campus, the whole area's been built up so much. There's so many restaurants and bars and things that weren't there when we were there. UC used to stand for under construction. That was the whole joke when I was there. Like, we're just constantly trying to build it up.

• 1:18:39Speaker 08

  No doubt.

• 1:18:40Speaker 01

But it's remarkable what it's turned into.

• 1:18:42Speaker 08

What was your favorite spots? I know you guys had some spots when you were down here.

• 1:18:45Speaker 01

Skyline was one of them, especially at two in the morning. That skyline over on Ludlow.

• 1:18:50Travis Kelce?

Now, first of all, Jason's speaking for himself right here. Jason's speaking for himself there. Skyline would be the last place I'd go. Shout out to Skyline, though, and Gold Star. Much love to you guys. I know you guys built a hell of an establishment, but I'm an Adriatico's Pizza guy.

• 1:19:05Speaker 08

Yes, yes, yes. I want to go there. I haven't been there yet, Trav. I gotta hit it.

• 1:19:09Speaker 01

Adriatico's is fantastic. And then I got a shot out of spot. Martino's over on Shortvine. Good people that run it, and they had these, these Pittsburgh-style wings and this Pittsburgh Steak Salad that we used to get there. And we just got to know the people that owned that place. And it's, it's an awesome spot. So you get a chance. Martino's is great over there on Shortvine.

• 1:19:30Speaker 08

I'm gonna hit it. Yep, I'll hit it next week.

• 1:19:32Speaker 01

And then, of course, you know, Montgomery Inn. Come on now. Get some of them barbecue ribs.

• 1:19:37Speaker 08

That's where Hugs's radio show used to be. So I'm looking forward to if our radio show will be out there. Yeah.

• 1:19:43Speaker 01

I didn't know this. You actually were a student at Cincinnati as well. So you, you started at Cleveland State as a player.

• 1:19:49Speaker 08

  Yep.

• 1:19:49Speaker 01

And then you transferred to UC, finished your degree and went into coaching right away. What does Cincinnati mean to you? How do you feel being back?

• 1:19:56Speaker 08

To be honest with you, it's kind of crazy. It's surreal, right? You go through life. You know, there's certain things that happen in your life that you're like, like a wow moment. Probably for you guys, whether it was your first start, first Super Bowl, whatever it was. There's just certain things that happen and this is kind of one of those. It's been a crazy journey. I took an unconventional path, took a D2 job from West Virginia. You know, after I didn't get Travis, you know, I had to go a different route.

• 1:20:25Speaker 08

He turned us down, man. He turned us down.

• 1:20:27Speaker 01

I'll tell you who turned you down. Ed Kelsey turned you down. That's the real story of it. We can get into that.

• 1:20:33Speaker 08

Yeah, we got to get into some of that if we got time.

• 1:20:35Travis Kelce?

Are you kidding? We would love to.

• 1:20:37Speaker 08

You know, just been a wild journey, man. I've coached at every level. Obviously Utah State's one of the best schools in the country. Best student, student section I've ever seen. We got to get that back here at UC. But this is a place where you can win a national championship and I think it's the best job in the state of Ohio for basketball. I really do. I've always thought that. Our alumni here is real. We got a real fan base and this campus we can sell. So I'm excited.

• 1:21:06Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome to hear, man.

• 1:21:07Speaker 01

Everybody I think was rooting for Utah State in the tourney just because we were like, hey, we're all hoping that Coach Calhoun comes back home. And you know, it was, it was fun watching you guys this season and in the tourney.

• 1:21:19Travis Kelce?

Yeah, it was so cool to see what you guys built over there at Utah too, man. You could tell, you could tell. So dating back to old 2007, back when you and Hugs actually in the entire like, like staff went to West Virginia, I believe Kansas State maybe before that.

• 1:21:38Speaker 08

  Yeah, yeah.

• 1:21:39Travis Kelce?

Going into West Virginia, I was, I had already kind of committed and I, I was, I was looking around for some basketball schools and all the Barry Egan. Coach Egan, Ohio, Ohio basketball coach, coached me my, my junior, senior years. And, and Egan had a really good connection with you guys down at Cincinnati. So I go down to West Virginia, you're my point of contact. You guys treat me like family. Like I had never been treated before. I was Jason's little brother and Cincinnati didn't even give me this much attention.

• 1:22:11Speaker 08

Trav, I'll be honest, man. You could hoop, man. That's what people, you know, obviously you're gonna go down as, as the greatest tight end in my, in my book, but uh, you were a hooper, man. I mean, you know, all those heights guys, you were a beast.

• 1:22:24Travis Kelce?

I appreciate that. I was, I was a hooper at heart for sure. You went to Villa Angeles, St. Joe's, you went to Joe's, right?

• 1:22:29Speaker 08

  Yeah, Joe's guy, man. Yeah.

• 1:22:31Travis Kelce?

I wish you would have told my dad that. So I, I came back from the West Virginia trip and I told my dad, man, like dad, I think I want to really like give myself a chance at playing division one college basketball and play for, you know, Coach Huggins. He looked at me, he said, you are a man of your word. You want to be like these kids that, that commit to us, that commit to a university and then decommit and then now, and now the integrity of your word doesn't mean anything. You have to be a man of your word. And I look around at everybody nowadays in college. I'm just like, what was I doing?

• 1:23:02Speaker 08

Well nowadays, you guys would have made a lot of money. I could tell you that. A lot of money.

• 1:23:08Travis Kelce?

No, man, but you could tell the way you guys ran and uh, or the way you guys ran that uh, the ship in West Virginia and, and just the camaraderie that you saw on the floor and how, and how everybody on the bench was involved in the game. Um, you could tell that's something you kind of took from the, the Huggs uh, regime, correct?

• 1:23:29Speaker 08

Yeah. I mean, honestly guys, Huggs is one of the greatest coaches of all time, but what people don't talk about is he's got three former coaches assistants that are now in the final four. Brad Underwood at Illinois, obviously Frank and, and Mick Cronin. And Coach Cronin's been unbelievable to me uh, throughout my coaching career. So when this opportunity came, he was one of the first guys I called. Uh, but yeah, I mean, I took taking some stuff from everybody. Joe Missoula is one of my best friends. I was the best man in his wedding, coached him at uh, West Virginia. So he's going to be involved in the program. Uh, we want to get you guys back. We're talking about doing a fantasy camp. Uh, we used to run one at West Virginia. So we might have you guys

• 1:24:11Speaker 08

get back uh, as well. If we can get your schedules cleared. I was, I know you guys are, you know, doing a lot.

• 1:24:17Travis Kelce?

You know, we would love to. That'd be a blast.

• 1:24:19Speaker 01

Travis knows this, but I've been trying to dunk for the first time in my life. I think I'm gonna get there. I think it's gonna happen. Thirty-eight years old, I'm dunking, baby. It's gonna happen.

• 1:24:28Speaker 08

My wife loves your wife, Jason. She thinks she's awesome. So you, you guys have your personalities and your brand, man. You guys are connecting so many people. And you guys don't know this, but I was very close with Donald Delicio, Trav. So we were

• 1:24:45Speaker 01

  How about that?

• 1:24:47Speaker 08

Yeah, we, we became diehard Chiefs fans, man. We flew out every year with a group of Youngstown guys. And you know, the Phantom Fireworks guys and all those guys.

• 1:24:58Travis Kelce?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:59Speaker 08

  Yeah, that's our crew.

• 1:25:02Speaker 01

Those Youngstown guys, they, they stay together. Wait, so you're from Youngstown or East, East Liverpool basically is Youngstown?

• 1:25:08Speaker 08

I was born in East Liverpool, but I grew up in Cleveland, man. I'm, I'm a Cleveland guy. But yeah, I spent seven years at Youngstown. Jim Tressel was a huge mentor of mine. And, you know, so I've had a lot of good guys help me along the way.

• 1:25:22Travis Kelce?

There's some good people in that, that Youngstown era, man, or that area. And they, they really do lend a helping hand. And Tressel's, I mean, I could throw out countless names that have said the exact same thing about Tressel being able to be such a, a helping hand in, in their journey, man. So that's awesome, big guy. And it's, it's cool to hear that Missoula is even coming back to, or coming around UC. That's pretty cool stuff right there.

• 1:25:45Speaker 08

Who do you guys like? Who's your NBA teams, man? You watch any of it?

• 1:25:49Speaker 01

I live in Philadelphia. I'm connected to the Philly teams.

• 1:25:52Speaker 08

Yeah, you gotta watch what you say, Jason.

• 1:25:54Speaker 01

Well, yeah, I like the Sixers, but

• 1:25:56Travis Kelce?

I'm a Cleveland fan through and through, yeah.

• 1:25:59Speaker 08

Yeah, me too. I mean, I love the Cavs. Sam Merrill, Utah State guys. So we become close.

• 1:26:04Travis Kelce?

I'm a Mark Price guy. The price is always right. We can go down, we can go down the list. Bobby Surratt was one of my childhood favorites.

• 1:26:11Speaker 08

Yeah, me too. Oh, my God. I had the jersey.

• 1:26:14Travis Kelce?

  The whole, the three.

• 1:26:15Speaker 08

Yeah, the three. Yeah, the throwback. Yeah.

• 1:26:18Speaker 01

I'm a big Anderson Varejao guy. I like, I like hustle defense, man. I want, I want those hustle plays, coach.

• 1:26:25Travis Kelce?

  You gotta have them.

• 1:26:26Speaker 01

I gotta say this too. While we're on Cleveland, guys, there was a quote of referencing you to another Cleveland guy. Maverick Carter, I've known Jared since we were 11 years old and the only person that I've met that loves the game is as committed to the game as LeBron and it's a tie. That's an incredible quote because I think LeBron is renowned for his love of basketball, but I do gotta know. Are, do you love the game enough to headbutt an official if you potentially aren't?

• 1:26:52Speaker 08

Maybe a few years back. Yeah, that was, Danny, Danny's on a whole nother level, but hey, he's got two natties, so he can get away with that. Maverick and I grew up together. You know, we're both AAU guys, so we would spend the weekend at each other's house. You know, I eat, sleep, drink basketball. I don't golf. You know, I'm constantly trying to evolve, learn. I think one of the things we'll be able to track to Cincinnati is our style, man. We really teach guys to play green, to find, create, keep advantages. We teach spacing. You know, it's all about reads, right? Like you gotta be able to read the game and you guys are elite guys that have read the game for a long time.

• 1:27:33Speaker 08

And that's what we do. We try to train their eyes, man. It's, it's a whole progression, right? From the off season to the preseason. And a lot of this I got from Joe. I'll be honest, man. When I went up to Boston five, six years ago, it changed my trajectory as a coach and kids will want to play in our system because we score the ball. And at the end of the day, man, it's entertainment. People want to pay money to see touchdowns and they want to see the ball go through the basket. So we're going to sell it.

• 1:27:58Travis Kelce?

Man, you're getting me fired up right now, coach.

• 1:28:03Speaker 01

I love talking about this stuff too, because football is.

• 1:28:05Travis Kelce?

I think I got like one semester left eligibility, coach.

• 1:28:08Speaker 08

Hey, we'll get you a good NIL deal, man.

• 1:28:10Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, I'm sure. Yeah.

• 1:28:12Speaker 08

  You gotta ask your wife.

• 1:28:13Speaker 01

Good six man off the bench. Yeah.

• 1:28:15Travis Kelce?

Sweetie, I'm going back to school.

• 1:28:18Speaker 01

You're bringing up something though that I've thought I've always been fascinated with and I've never understood because I never played organized basketball, played pickup basketball. And something I've always found fascinating is like it's a free flowing game. Football is much more rigid in your rules and assignments. Each play you have a very specific responsibility. And one of the things that I think has allowed Travis the ability to excel in football is because he played basketball, because he has the ability to understand what you're talking about with spacing and like to go off schedule and do something because you just know that it's the right move to make. How much has basketball continued to evolve in that regard? Like you think about like the triangle offense and how innovative that was. And I don't, I don't even know what I'm asking you because I don't know a fucking thing about basketball.

• 1:29:04Speaker 08

I know where you're going with it. I mean, at the end of the day, you have to evolve. You have to change with the times, right? And I think there's not a better guy that's done it than, than Joe Missoula. I mean, look what he's done since he's gotten to Boston, you know? But it's beyond that. It's relationships. You gotta have, you gotta have the chemistry, right? What, what Travis has done and you know, my family teases me, you know, I changed from the Browns. There's only so much I could take from the Cleveland Browns. So I got on the Chiefs wagon with the Youngstown crew and

• 1:29:35Speaker 08

and we, we made a lot of trips out there. Trav don't even realize I've been in Arrowhead a lot.

• 1:29:41Travis Kelce?

  That's awesome, man.

• 1:29:42Speaker 01

It's a good place to watch a game.

• 1:29:43Speaker 08

Oh, it's unbelievable. I mean, if people haven't seen a game in there, it's, it, it, forget the game, the, the pregame tailgates are, it's like a college atmosphere. It's crazy.

• 1:29:53Travis Kelce?

I had no idea you were, you were already on the, the Chiefs wagon, man. That's awesome.

• 1:29:57Speaker 08

I'm going to send you a picture of me at the game with my boys. I'll send it to you. You'll love it.

• 1:30:02Travis Kelce?

You gotta come back out for another one, man. If you get a chance.

• 1:30:05Speaker 01

Coach, I saw you on, uh, Dan Hoard earlier this week, talking about the cross town shootout and the, how important is it to dominate Ohio? I, that was a big thing I took away from it.

• 1:30:15Speaker 08

Yeah. I mean, at the end of the day, man, uh, you know, rivalries are everything, right? We all got them. We all have that team, but this, this one is really special. You know, I think it's one of the most unique, you know, you got Duke. Carolina, you got Cincinnati Xavier, right? There's two monster basketball programs within four or five miles. So those are games you gotta win, right? You gotta defend home turf. You gotta rep your city. We're gonna take a lot of pride in that, you know, and President Tressel talked about Ohio State, Michigan with me for years. It's gotta be, you know, talked about. It's gotta be trained in our guys' minds that we gotta win this game, you know, and it starts in the recruiting process.

• 1:30:56Travis Kelce?

It doesn't matter where you are, if you're, if you have the chance to watch UC basketball, you're always gonna check that crosstown shootout, you know, game. And I mean, it's just, it's something that I, I already know you're gonna take to heart, man. But I gotta get back to some of the, some of the high school days and a little bit more of this Northeast Ohio love, man. One thing I have to ask you about is the final game of your high school career was against one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

• 1:31:24Speaker 08

  Yeah.

• 1:31:24Travis Kelce?

I had the pleasure of seeing LeBron in high school, and he looked like a man amongst boys. How did it feel playing against him in high school?

• 1:31:35Speaker 08

Well, I'll be honest, that's one that haunts you, right? Like, you got games that haunt you. That one still haunts me because, yeah, we would have been state champs. I'll never forget, Trav, my high school coach, Ted Kozniak, just a tremendous person. He went and saw LeBron. He came back. He saw, he saw Clark Kellogg back in the day at Joe's. This is the greatest high school player I've ever seen. And I'm like, I'm a senior. I'm like, you know, who, who's this freshman he's talking about? So boom, fast forward two months later, and this dude is just killing. It was crazy. I mean, we were up the whole game, back and forth. Maverick was on that team, so we talked about it a lot. But, you know, what made LeBron so good is guys like

• 1:32:17Speaker 08

you, Mahomes. I mean, you look at every sport, they just know the game. They see the plays before. He had a cross-court pass I still think about to this day in transition as a freshman.

• 1:32:28Travis Kelce?

That was one of the things, obviously, his athleticism. I didn't get to see him till he was a senior. So his athleticism was like, he was in the NBA already, but his ability to pass the ball. Anywhere on the dime at any moment was so unique and it he made it look so effortless.

• 1:32:46Speaker 08

I mean, at that point, he was like six, six and he grew like from freshman to sophomore. He got like three more inches, you know, crazy, absolutely crazy.

• 1:32:55Speaker 01

I got one last thing. If you see, if you ha- if you happen to see a soup bowl ring lying around some chili in fifth third arena, you make sure to let me know.

• 1:33:05Speaker 08

Did you lose it in Cincinnati? Was it a good night?

• 1:33:07Speaker 01

It was a great night. It was a great night.

• 1:33:09Travis Kelce?

It was an unbelievable night. Yeah.

• 1:33:11Speaker 08

Well, we gotta get you guys back.

• 1:33:12Travis Kelce?

Absolutely. Love to come back. Definitely coming back for a game to see you, uh, rock it out and, uh, hopefully, um, hopefully we can even get back for a little cross town shootout.

• 1:33:21Speaker 08

That'd be great. Yeah, I'm glad Reggie connected us, man. Reggie King, great guy, man. Shout out to Reggie.

• 1:33:28Travis Kelce?

Red run, baby. You're the man. Coach, we appreciate you, big guy. We're, we're rooting for you and, uh, if you ever need a thing, man, please just reach out.
