Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder discuss sports' biggest storylines and hot button topics from Stephen A to Lebron to Bronny to NCAA tournament, Deion Sanders + Asante Samuel to Viral morning routines to our different takes in parenting

Before March bids us farewell, the guys weigh in on some of the sports madness the month has brought us and we aren't just talking about the NCAA tournament- we get into it all with a lot of laughs, heated debates and bold takes. From legend rivalries to the back forth of Stephen A and Lebron to social media craziness to Bronny's career to NCAA women's basketball this year vs last- Ryan, Fred, and Channing are breaking down the biggest storylines- unfiltered and without hesitation. Reacting directly to Lebron's interview on Pat McAfee, Ryan believes the conversation was full of so many nuggets about sports, life and family but Channing says none of that matters to him when considering if Bronny deserves to be in the NBA while Ryan and Fred offer a more measured take. The guys discuss the fallout of how far it's gotten with Stephen A and how the saga is very personal and no longer just about basketball. As the conversation shifts to Bronny James, LeBron’s parenting, all three guys can relate to wanting to protect your family and also on creating the most opportunity for your children through doors you can help open for them. Channing and Fred discuss what is the best ways to set up your children for success and stability while Ryan says providing an example is the best way to show them the way personally, professionally and respectfully by passing down values and sharing traits to help deal with the pros and cons faced. As parents, how do we phrase therapy, especially for young people, as a positive action vs "something must be wrong"? Also making headlines is the viral exchange between NFL All Pro Asante Samuel and Deion Sanders- the guys try to make sense of the conversation and why one side would even challenge the other in this skill level debate as Ryan, Channing and Fred are very blunt on their response to the two's war of words. The fellas dive into the viral phenomenon of Ashton Hall’s morning routine, debating whether his banana peel and Saratoga water content is motivational or just another influencer trend. Ryan offers up his own experiences of comparing one's everyday grind to someone else’s highlight reel as everyone's struggles and circumstances are different. Fred emphasizes perspective, importance of staying authentic and not allowing the highs of success change the course while Channing says he never will stray from who he is to appease public perception. And of course, it wouldn’t be March without some hoops talk, the unfortunate outcome for JuJu Watkins to praising Hailey Van Lith's vulnerability to this year's NCAA tournament to Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese forever impacting women's sports but did we take for granted the competition Caitlin and Angel created? Listen to what the guys say as they dive into that and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

• 0:30Fred Taylor?

So, I don't know if you've seen the video of big boy Ashton from Duval with his morning routine. He start like 4:00 in the morning. Now, I don't do all that extra stuff, but I do, I've been dumping my water in the bucket for the longest.

• 0:46Ryan Clark?

That's for you to rub on your face when we get done with our Saratoga.

• 0:50Channing Crowder?

  What's this for?

• 0:52Ryan Clark?

Here you go, for the tea.

• 0:54Fred Taylor?

This is, is this an ad?

• 0:56Channing Crowder?

Man, I don't do this, man.

• 0:58Ryan Clark?

So, you gotta rub it on your face?

• 0:59Channing Crowder?

  I'm a man. I have a beard.

• 1:02Ryan Clark?

No, that's, it's part of your morning routine, Chan. You gotta rub the banana peel.

• 1:06Channing Crowder?

It gotta be sparkling on the juice?

• 1:07Ryan Clark?

I just like sparkling water and I don't want no regular one.

• 1:09Fred Taylor?

I wonder if the sparkling takes more information out.

• 1:12Channing Crowder?

So, you rub it on the juicy side or the dry side?

• 1:15Ryan Clark?

Think you put the juicy side, pause, on your face?

• 1:17Channing Crowder?

  On your face?

• 1:18Ryan Clark?

Yeah, that's what he did on the, this morning routine. Tell me what it feel, did you feel like it does something?

• 1:26Fred Taylor?

You want your face to feel slimy like that?

• 1:29Ryan Clark?

That's what the dude did. God, my hands. I opened all the bananas.

• 1:32Fred Taylor?

What I was trying to tell you.

• 1:33Channing Crowder?

  Man, this is goofy.

• 1:35Fred Taylor?

  Listen.

• 1:36Channing Crowder?

  This is goofy.

• 1:37Fred Taylor?

  Nah, but it works.

• 1:39Ryan Clark?

Also too, you gotta drink Saratoga when you brush your teeth to use to spit this, there you see, look at you, it's sparkling. And you gotta spit it out and then you also gotta dump your face in it.

• 1:49Channing Crowder?

  Sparkling.

• 1:50Ryan Clark?

  Who is this?

• 1:51Fred Taylor?

Ashton, you got a sparkling squirter.

• 1:54Ryan Clark?

He got like 10 million followers, bro. This guy's gotta work.

• 1:56Fred Taylor?

  Nah.

• 1:57Ryan Clark?

  It's gotta work.

• 1:57Fred Taylor?

I don't do the ice, I just transfer it. But dumping your face, it wakes you up, it feels great.

• 2:03Channing Crowder?

Just wake up? You're a grown man, wake up. Alarm go off, wake up.

• 2:07Fred Taylor?

You know that feeling when we play, right? When we play, you jump in the cold tub and you get that, that, that loss of breath feeling, like that. When you put your face in there, it does that to your face.

• 2:18Ryan Clark?

Yeah, it's not gonna wake me up, though.

• 2:20Fred Taylor?

  It will.

• 2:20Ryan Clark?

  No.

• 2:21Fred Taylor?

  You tried it?

• 2:21Ryan Clark?

You might as well, you might as well just jump in the cold shower.

• 2:24Fred Taylor?

Nah, this is colder than the cold shower.

• 2:27Channing Crowder?

So we supposed to rub banana pills on our face and drink Saratoga water every day?

• 2:31Ryan Clark?

But you gotta wake up at 3:00, too.

• 2:33Channing Crowder?

  AM?

• 2:34Ryan Clark?

Yeah, he wake up at 3:00 AM.

• 2:35Channing Crowder?

  No, Jack.

• 2:56Ryan Clark?

Welcome to the pivot. It's Friday. Just wanna tell y'all, hey, man, pivot fam, thank y'all for pivoting with us. This is Freddie T., that's Shanny Crowder, I'm your boy RC. And we are talking about our morning routines. Apparently Fred does dump his face in water every morning. That seem like-

• 3:11Fred Taylor?

Not every morning. I've tried it.

• 3:13Channing Crowder?

  For what?

• 3:14Fred Taylor?

  Excuse me?

• 3:15Channing Crowder?

  For what?

• 3:15Fred Taylor?

It's supposed to take the puffiness and the inflammation out, like the cold tub. But I do it more so to wake up. It does help you wake up.

• 3:24Ryan Clark?

I have a question. Are you asleep when you dump your face into the water?

• 3:28Fred Taylor?

Nah, because you can't mistreat it. See, cuz if you go in there half-stepping, you gonna choke yourself.

• 3:35Ryan Clark?

So you already up, and you dump your face to be more up?

• 3:39Fred Taylor?

You wanna get up-up, like a rush and it gets you out. Like, I don't know what it does, RC, but it makes you feel that way.

• 3:46Ryan Clark?

Did you see he compared himself to Jesus afterwards?

• 3:48Fred Taylor?

I saw that. That boy from Duval.

• 3:50Channing Crowder?

Y'all sent me that video. That's the dude that rubs the banana pills on his face?

• 3:54Ryan Clark?

  Yeah.

• 3:54Channing Crowder?

Man, that's, that's, that don't make no sense.

• 3:56Fred Taylor?

What'd you call him on the group chat? Quarter zip?

• 3:59Channing Crowder?

  Quarter zip?

• 4:02Channing Crowder?

Bro, I will lie to you. If y'all, if y'all see somebody in there quarter zip-

• 4:07Ryan Clark?

  What was that?

• 4:08Channing Crowder?

  That's banana piece.

• 4:09Ryan Clark?

  You got banana piece?

• 4:10Channing Crowder?

Cause it's dumbass shit y'all got me doing.

• 4:15Channing Crowder?

Y'all don't look at somebody funny when you see them with that quarter zip. I look at people funny when I see the quarter zip.

• 4:20Ryan Clark?

That's what Peyton Manning, Peyton Manning and Eli wear quarter zip.

• 4:23Channing Crowder?

And they love quarter zip, but that, you know, it's just.

• 4:26Ryan Clark?

Quarter zip. I do, but so, alright, so Freddie T. It was a trend, right? People were showing, showing their morning routine. Right. He got up at three, he brushed his teeth, he taped his mouth while he was asleep. I think that's supposed to do something to your lungs.

• 4:42Channing Crowder?

He get wet to his mouth?

• 4:44Ryan Clark?

  He taped it.

• 4:46Channing Crowder?

Like, well, he can't breathe out his mouth?

• 4:48Ryan Clark?

So he woke up with his mouth taped, right? It looked like he was held hostage. So he took it off his mouth and then he had to breathe right on the whole time. And also too, no matter what he did, it was a white woman hand in front. Like, so he was doing pushups. So he doing pushups and he hit the Saratoga bottle, clearly on purpose. And a white woman hand just swooped up and took the Saratoga bottle. And so then when he was doing the banana face thing, a white woman hand peeled the bananas and handed it to him.

• 5:23Ryan Clark?

So like, and then when he was eating, it was the same thing like that. But you never see the lady, she just there. And, but bro, he was like, bro, he like woke up at three. It took him a minute to open the door to get from the inside. Cause it was four when he was in front of the door. And then when he finally slid open, it was 4:01. He did pushups and like, he twerked on the, squatted or something on the outside. But I think the point was, right? Like this dude woke up and this was his morning from three to seven. He goes to do sprints and all of these things. And like, that's the morning trend. I look at these things and I feel like, what is the purpose of showing your morning routine if it's that? Or if it's anything.

• 6:03Channing Crowder?

What's the purpose? That's the thing, purposefully doing something. And that's what, I don't know. Listen, y'all show, y'all was sending these videos, I didn't know who the hell this man was. Talking about people is, is biting off him or whatever. Not that. Not rubbing bananas on my face and drinking water at 3 a.m.? Nobody wants to do that shit.

• 6:21Ryan Clark?

Well, now people are doing it to make fun of him. Right? And, and they know people are gonna watch it, it, it's comedy now. And so, he was saying that he had to adjust to people copying the things that he does because he's a leader. And you gotta choose which one you are, and there's people following him the way people follow Jesus.

• 6:41Channing Crowder?

He did call himself Jesus. He's banana peel Jesus?

• 6:49Channing Crowder?

Big homie, get the hell out of here, banana peel Jesus. It's goofy, it's attention grabbing, but like you were saying, I do things purposefully. I know y'all do things for purpose. I do agree with structure. I agree with schedule. But, big homie, you doing this for, for foolishness. I just gotta let you know that. I don't know, I don't know how big he is really, run up, pack your lunch, but yeah, that's, that, that, that's, that's some goofiness.

• 7:16Ryan Clark?

His college stats was like Fred, college stats?

• 7:19Fred Taylor?

Shit, you crazy. Nah, that, he from Duval, he from Jacksonville.

• 7:23Channing Crowder?

  He can go like that?

• 7:24Fred Taylor?

Nah, nah. High school, he was decent, played at First Coast, looked pretty good. But the stats that ESPN or SportsCenter Instagram put on there, two years was like six carries, eight yards.

• 7:38Ryan Clark?

  Oh, he was getting on.

• 7:39Fred Taylor?

It wasn't that good. But even aside from that, like, it's always good to have a routine, right? But that routine was a bit stretched. Like, it was a little bit fabricated in a sense, man. You know what I'm looking at, even his comments, I see when he was like, yeah, following, there's followers, the leaders. What's the purpose of you putting it out there? What's the purpose of content creators sharing? You know, a lot of their content, when they say, "This is my morning routine." Don't you want people to follow your routine if it's something that's worked for you? If you got a ton of followers, right? And you're trying to share with your community, and you put this out there, you're coming back saying, "Follow what I do."

• 8:24Fred Taylor?

Maybe you can get a little closer to getting this success. And the last thing he said on there after he dove in the pool was, "We gotta make at least 10 grand." Like, "We can do all this, now we gotta make at least 10 grand, get to the paper." I hope, like, all of that that he was saying, at least there are some truths in that, or whatever his truths are. It was outrageous. Some people might pull from it. At the end of, at the end of the story, I said, "Find a routine, whatever works for you, go for it." But they made a joke of it, it's a big mockery on there, it's funny as shit.

• 8:57Channing Crowder?

  He don't represent Du- Duval.

• 9:00Fred Taylor?

  He don't represent-

• 9:01Ryan Clark?

  He represent Duval.

• 9:06Fred Taylor?

  Nah, it's different.

• 9:07Channing Crowder?

Bro, that's some, Fred, you a, you a very loving, nice dude. That's some goofy shit that he just did.

• 9:13Fred Taylor?

Nah, I mean, you called it out, but that's his thing.

• 9:16Ryan Clark?

But also too, though, we, we, we do have to, to recognize this, right? Like, we are, we are in a world, and I went down a rabbit hole, I'm not gonna lie, once. I recognized who he was. I wanted to see, like, what else he have, he had. And there's a, a post that he has where he's like, "I thought I had to play football to be able to do these things for my mother." Right? Which means that through influencing, or through investments, or whatever he does in real life, like, this is the, like, he makes money that way. Like, I would suppose that Saratoga in some way pays him. Like, he's not, like, he ain't that goofy. Right, he's smart enough to know that people from Duval, people from Atlanta,

• 10:00Ryan Clark?

people from South Florida, people from the NO, don't rinse their mouth out with Saratoga. Right, we don't, we don't pour that into ice to put on our face. So he's obviously making money from doing these things. He is an influencer. And so when you put this whole morning together, my thing is, don't be influenced to think that your morning as a single mom, or your morning as a father of three, that he gotta, that you gotta get to school is inferior to his morning. Nah. Like, that's the big thing, is like, my every morning can't be like that, because some mornings I gotta get up, and my meeting at 6. Right, some mornings, nah, I gotta be in Arizona to go train Jordan.

• 10:42Ryan Clark?

Some mornings, we all on a text message because we gotta be on a flight to go do something else. Right, my morning routine is gonna change. Right, and so now it's like, okay, what's the foundation of that morning routine? In the sense of, what you reading? Yeah. Right, not that the fact that you sat in front of the book, and you held your hand on it and closed your eyes, nah, what's in that book? Because if something's in that book that could change my life, if something's in that book that can influence me to be better, I can read that hoe at 12. 12 PM. And so, I think like, that's my big thing, whether it's influencers, whether it's self-help,

• 11:22Ryan Clark?

whether it's psychologists, psychiatrists, whoever it is, when you are given the information from them, you gotta digest it, comprehend it, and see how it applies to your life. That may be what he could do in his morning. Guess what? I don't like swimming, so I'm not finna dive in the pool. No. I might step in it, and walk in it, and put my feet in it, swing them around like this, and so I think like, that's the thing for me. But also too, man, what it struck me, and I wanna talk to you about, you've gained a voice from this show, you've gained a voice from this show, I've gained a voice from this show. How do you go about, both of you?

• 12:01Ryan Clark?

Making sure you keep that voice in perspective.

• 12:05Fred Taylor?

I think continuing to be true to yourself, continue to be transparent, and not really getting out of your lane, right? You know, I think I posted a comment earlier today. Somebody was talking about the Jelly Roll interview. And I really was like, you can't let nobody trick you off your spot. And that's what it comes down to, just stand transparent, stand truthful. You can never be called out, like this is who you are, what you do, what you've always done. The last three and a half years, I've been the person I've been. Nobody else can tell you that I've changed up on this show, not one bit. You know, probably a comment where they've said, well, that's something that Channing might have said, Freddie.

• 12:49Fred Taylor?

Leave it, that ain't true, that sounds more like Channing. But I can be funny at times, like off the camera, I'm a little bit more funny, right? Right?

• 12:56Ryan Clark?

  Uh-uh.

• 12:57Fred Taylor?

  No?

• 12:57Ryan Clark?

  Uh-uh.

• 12:58Channing Crowder?

You so, you so sexy all the time, all the time.

• 13:02Fred Taylor?

Yeah, crazy. But nah, I mean, really, it's just-

• 13:04Channing Crowder?

You know Chan, whatever we gonna do, man, we can grab this food and-

• 13:09Ryan Clark?

Hey, I ain't never met a Negro that text sexy.

• 13:14Ryan Clark?

Hey, he the only person that'll ask you for something and really want you to do it and then tell you, but no pressure. Well, if it's no pressure, what you texting me about it for?

• 13:24Fred Taylor?

I mean, because if we gonna, if we gonna do it-

• 13:26Channing Crowder?

He changed his number so in my phone it say Freddie T. New, because he had an old number and a couple of years ago he changed his number. I look over and see, I sit up in the bed. Word Freddie T. gotta say this new.

• 13:40Fred Taylor?

It's always funny with you, bro. My number ain't been changed in 15 years, man, cut that out. But no, I think it's really just just continuing the open dialogue and the transparency that we always had, that I certainly always try to share. Understanding what the audience is, understanding what we're giving back to them. You know, not trying to mislead like some of the influencers, since you mentioned that, like a lot of that can be misleading or whatever. Just staying truthful, understanding what the impacts hit, who your audience is, man, and it's easy when you recognize that.

• 14:18Channing Crowder?

When we did Jelly Roll, it was something funny he said, and it was just in passing. Remember he was like, man, I'm a big fan of the show, I've been watching since the start. Off camera, y'all are still the same people. Like, y'all are boys. And I was like, "Yeah, we, they my, like, we're cool." Like, we just, he was like, "But y'all are the same exact people." You gonna go over here and grab the cow. Ryan is running from the cow. Freddie T gonna be uncomfortable, but he gonna try to make people, uh, you know, co- you know, be, be nice and be comfortable. And, and that's the whole thing, man. And I've said it, I've said it on this show about three times, I think, with different people through tell what [bleep] was going on, three years. The Bernie Mac quote, "Be yourself. If people don't like you for being yourself, then [bleep] them."

• 15:02Channing Crowder?

And I know that y'all really think that way. You get criticized like hell. I done argued about your [bleep] a thousand [bleep] times about stuff you say. And every time we talk, I'm like, "Bro, I tell people, that's you." Like, if you go ask him in the airport, he's gonna, he's gonna double down because he's not making up something. He feels that way. Freddie, the same way. Is Fred that goddamn cool? Yes. Fred is that goddamn cool? That's why I know we're successful, because we're our self. To your question on RC, like, the thing about perspective, the point about, like, saying your opinion and, and, and almost doubling down on it.

• 15:43Channing Crowder?

I almost, through time, sometimes people come up to me and it's one of them days, and I'm like, "Listen, do I wanna argue with this person right now?" But like yourself, you know what I do? I can't say nothing else other than what I just said, so I'm gonna say it again. And now we into it, we into it. Now I gotta crank up. Now I, I might have to go get me a damn Mountain Dew, because now you wanna argue? Let's argue, but I, I can't lean away from how I feel, my emotions, my opinions. And I know both of y'all like that, and I think that's why the, that's why the show's so successful.

• 16:15Ryan Clark?

It took me firing back at people sometimes, or feeling certain ways, is that, man...

• 16:22Ryan Clark?

I'm so little, though. Like, even though my voice is growing in this space, in the grand scheme of it, I'm little. Right? In the sense that there were people before me that, obviously platforms change in eras, though, that had certain voices and were looked at for certain things, and then they moved on, and they were easily replaced, whether it be by me, or as Stephen A. moves up, or whatever it is. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, those people were replaced.

• 16:51Speaker 00

  Right.

• 16:52Ryan Clark?

Right? Other people have taken the mantle of civil rights, and other people have said, "Okay, we're gonna step up and do these things." There are different presidents that are elected to the White House, and the country continues to move on. Whether you think it's good or bad, that happens. And, you know, as we lead up to Easter, it makes me think about John 3:16, where it says, "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son." Right? Somebody had to come die in order for me to be able to move around and live, because I was born defective anyway. You know, and so like now we get in this space, and it's like, "Oh, man, you know, I said that, and that had an impact." And now people walk up to you, "Man, I appreciate you for doing this. I appreciate you for doing that." And it's like, "Hey, man, I'm struggling and fighting just like you." You know what I'm saying?

• 17:37Ryan Clark?

There's mornings that I wake up, and I'm questioning my existence as well. I'm trying to figure out what the next step is, what the best step is. And the reason you can get some of that from me is because I am actually giving you myself. Like, I'm only telling you to keep going, because I had to tell myself to keep going that morning. I'm only telling you that trouble don't last always, because last week I was in a spot that I thought I was never gonna get out of, and thank God I'm better today. And that's what I've been having to remind myself. When people do push back like that, Freddie T., or do say something to me, is to be like, "If I'm small, what is he?"

• 18:24Ryan Clark?

He for sure can't tell me nothing. If I know in the grand scheme of things, this is my spot, then why am I gonna let somebody whose spot is just the same as mine, or in some cases, less than mine, bother me? And I've been having to keep that perspective.

• 18:39Fred Taylor?

Which is crazy, because that actually, that actually made me think about what's been the hottest thing, probably in the sports media, aside from free agency and the draft lately. Zun, our homie, Asante, Samuel, and Deion.

• 18:57Speaker 04

Every game day, you show up for your team. Now, it's your time.

Ask your prescriber about Wegovy. Someaglutide injection, 2.4 milligrams a GLP-1. Call 1-833-4-WEGOVIE, or visit wegovie.com to view the medication guide and to learn more about Wegovy. Why wait?

• 19:26Fred Taylor?

RC, you spoke about, you know, not necessarily allowing someone to move you off your spot. And that's the same thought process that Zun had. What him and Prime kind of tweeted a little bit ago, when they was talking about the, was it the T-step, T-break? Zun came and said, basically, nah, it worked for me, yada, yada, yada. Prime was like, nah, you know, he didn't call him foolish. I don't know the exact quote. But basically, it was like, if that worked for you, God bless you. That didn't work for me, and I wouldn't teach none of my guys that.

• 19:59Ryan Clark?

He told him he was shooting for the sky.

• 20:00Fred Taylor?

He was shooting for the sky. Prime's in the sky. And then, obviously, Shae Shae said some stuff, and they kind of got into it, went back and forth, whatever. But someone like Zun, like, he's not gonna let you get him off his spot. And again, if you believe in what you believe in and you're adamant about that, why not go and defend your position, you know, good or bad? So what do you guys think about those comments from Zunt or Asante?

• 20:30Channing Crowder?

Oh, I love Zunt. Zunt down there, Zunk down there at the house, at the crib. Wife, kids, I done seen his damn daughter can run some damn track now. Like, I know him and he's very opinionated. And if you ever seen him talk, he gonna be, he gonna say what he said. It almost go back to the last conversation we saying. You're not running me off my position. And we know Prime. We been to Boulder. We been around Prime for years. Like, you know, and you know, when two lions get in a room together, there's a lot of territory there and they could sit, I guarantee Zunt and damn Prime could sit and talk about this. But it's elevated because of the media and social media and all the aggression and the yelling and screaming and all that stuff.

• 21:14Channing Crowder?

Man, it's a different look. Asante was an amazing cornerback. Deion was the best cornerback of all time.

• 21:23Fred Taylor?

  Right.

• 21:23Channing Crowder?

I wanna hear this conversation. I wanna be in the room for this conversation to happen. Cause I know they both are very good at football. But Deion is the best and Asante was the best of his time. And what Zunt did and what Deion does, they were different. But it's amazing to see that two lions, two male, alpha men, black men, let me put it at that, could disagree. And I guarantee they could sit in the same room with each other and I love that.

• 21:53Fred Taylor?

You said Asante was the best of his time.

• 21:55Channing Crowder?

Asante, he was one of the best.

• 21:56Fred Taylor?

You got Revis in there too.

• 21:58Channing Crowder?

Revis? No, I'll say one of the best.

• 22:00Fred Taylor?

You said one of the best.

• 22:01Channing Crowder?

Cause Asante went, he went to plenty pro bowl.

• 22:02Fred Taylor?

I just wanted to make sure whatever you were saying.

• 22:05Channing Crowder?

When we played, cause now we old now. You let me think about it for a second. I can give you a list of bad, it was some bad, bad dogs back then.

• 22:12Fred Taylor?

And then Champ, you can't exclude Champ.

• 22:14Ryan Clark?

Charles Woodson lived in that time, guys.

• 22:15Channing Crowder?

Woodson was low to the left though.

• 22:17Fred Taylor?

  Wood was.

• 22:18Ryan Clark?

Sante came in the league in like 2003. Wood was drafted in 98, but Wood was that good. Wood didn't win Player of the Year until like 2009.

• 22:30Channing Crowder?

The boy that's with Olivia Pope was a dog for a couple of years.

• 22:34Ryan Clark?

Yeah, so like, but like you said, though, like you said, let's not even get to the woods of like, who was the best? Asante Samuel was a four-time Pro Bowler. He was a two-time All-Pro. I think he had years of like 10, 9, and 7 interceptions, 51 total.

• 22:49Channing Crowder?

  Two Super Bowls.

• 22:50Ryan Clark?

Right, like Asante Samuel was a very good player, right? He's one of the best corners of his era. Deion Sanders is the best cornerback that's ever been. And I do think, I do understand your sentiment, right? When Asante, and it's always hard to have these conversations, right? Because both of those people were better at football than I was. Asante Samuel and Deion Sanders are having a conversation about football. And you talk about two lions having a conversation. But one of them's Mufasa, though. The other one's Scar. Right? And don't get me wrong, in their own right, both of them were very powerful, right? But there's a reason why they got the Hall of Fame.

• 23:35Ryan Clark?

There is no Hall of Very Good. Now, you can have the conversation between Asante and Deion Sanders when you're talking about technique. I train DBs, right? And by the time I get them there in college and in the league, I don't change anything they do. If you want a T-step, we're going to figure out how to make that efficient. If you're a bicycle guy, we're going to make sure that you don't run in place. Let's just fix that, right? That's a conversation we can have. But let's not stat-watch, Asante. Let's not throw rocks at a tank. You were good. You played zone well, you had good eyes, right? But we cut the film on, like, you get cooked. Because your eyes, because your eyes, as good as they were in zone, they were bad in man. Right? You could get double moved, right?

• 24:20Ryan Clark?

We understood that. Deion Sanders shifted the power of the entire NFL. Deion Sanders played for one team, covered the other team's Hall of Famer, and won a Super Bowl. So the other team said, how do we beat that team?

• 24:40Ryan Clark?

We don't, we're not gonna go get, we can't get their quarterback. Let's go get the next best thing. Let's go get Deion Sanders. And then he went to the other team and covered the other Hall of Famer. And won a Super Bowl with them. And then, just when he got bored, he played offense. Before that, he was the best returner in football. And so, I don't believe that the way you play in a career should preclude you from being able to have conversations about technique. But if Troy said something preposterous, I would text him and be like, TP, you know that's not right.

• 25:24Ryan Clark?

Because intellectually, I could have that conversation with him. If Ed Reed said that, if Ronnie Lott said that, if Sean, God rest his soul, was here to say that, I'd be like, guys, that's, that's not right. But what I ain't gonna do is say, hey, let's pull out the film and look at these stats. And I'm gonna say that I'm as good as you were ever. Because that's not true of Asante Samuel. It's not a conversation. You are not in that conversation. Before you get in that conversation, it's a lot of people from your time playing in the league that's in that conversation more than you're in that conversation. And I get it, being where we're from, where he's from, where I'm from.

• 26:06Ryan Clark?

Yeah, we feel good about who we are. Sometimes, it's not about who we are, but who the effing other person is. And the other person that you're talking about is the mother effing person. Right? The, the only, the reason people wanna play that position is because of this man. Like, I, I don't, I don't even know what else to say.

• 26:35Channing Crowder?

I argue, I argued with Ray Lewis one time. For what? As you said, that's what it popped in my mind. I said, you know what? I was at an event with Ray Lewis. It was RL 52 Realty. And I argued with Ray. And I felt silly after the conversation started. I'm like, why the hell am I arguing with Ray Lewis about playing linebacker? I came to the conclusion that I'm not Ray Lewis. So to your point, I did argue with Ray Lewis for about 10 minutes. And I said, this is silly. Silly? Because that's Ray Lewis.

• 27:03Fred Taylor?

Yeah, one would say if you're going to shoot the shot, shoot at the big dog, right? I mean, because these other pups don't. What are you doing? I think if they would have left it at the conversation of just technique, it would have been OK. Because it's OK to be a perfectionist at one thing, while also being a perfectionist at another thing. We're talking about cornerback play. Asante was an extreme perfectionist at his technique, at playing zone coverage.

• 27:28Channing Crowder?

  Off too.

• 27:29Fred Taylor?

That's what he perfected, right? Same thing, Prime, on the other hand, man coverage. He pioneered, you know what? I got this side of the field. This whole hash, from this hash all the way over, that's me. Y'all worry about that. And we're going to be OK. So he pioneered that. So it's a mystique that comes with the style in which Prime played, his name, everything, much like MJ. Nobody's going to give LeBron that same credit as Mike, because Mike done it first. He kind of changed everything. And there's a mystique that's going to follow him throughout time. I believe Santi, with his numbers and his career and all that he's done, it's an argument to say how great, how good he was.

• 28:14Fred Taylor?

And he was a damn good player. When you look at the totality of his career and what he had done. But when you bark up a tree like a prime, that's kind of what waters it down. And people look at you like, come on, are you serious?

• 28:30Channing Crowder?

  It's like, it's the GOAT.

• 28:32Fred Taylor?

I could never say any, like Barry? When we talk about Barry, Walter.

• 28:39Channing Crowder?

That's what it is, Freddie. You were, you were, you're a Hall of Famer.

• 28:41Fred Taylor?

  I can't, I can't say that.

• 28:42Channing Crowder?

Leave Walter, leave Barry. You don't bring them up. Is up when you talk about running backs. You know, and I think that's what Ryan's saying. It's like, you're a very good cornerback.

• 28:53Channing Crowder?

Why would you argue with Deion? Why would I argue with Ray Lewis? You gotta pay- Why would you argue with Troy? Like, let's just take it easy and let's stay in our lane. That's our lane we need to stay in. Are you gonna stay in your lane now with Bronny though? You see, I wore my Lakers hat, cuz I knew y'all was about to ask. Yeah, so- I'm not gonna stay in my lane cuz they were losing by 30. He got in the game, he made 17 points. He just shot some threes and he gets cooked defensively. I wore my hat to reinforce my opinion Bronny should not be in- He hit 39 in the G League the same week, Chan. You know what? Little Chan could get 31 in the G League. That's not true cuz if- The G League, who's the best player in the G League right now?

• 29:38Channing Crowder?

Matt McClum, probably. Mm-hmm. The guy that can't make it to the league? So Bronny's getting 39 on people that can't play in the NBA?

• 29:46Fred Taylor?

It's never good enough for you.

• 29:47Channing Crowder?

Listen, I love LeBron. I do not hate on the James family. I'm telling you facts. Bronny James should not be in the NBA. I watched him go out there and get cooked the other night. Walked in the game, bink, bink, binked his ass, went up for a layup, went down, he missed a shot, they came back and binked his ass up. I watched, bro, I watched back, since Luka got there, I really watch the Lakers a lot now. And he gets binked up defensively. I don't know why this is such a thing that people are like, I'm just being honest about basketball. You want me to bring up other people that can't play? I can make a list of people that can't play. Bronny's on the bottom. I'm sorry, James family.

• 30:32Channing Crowder?

I love LeBron, I love his philanthropy, I swear, I hate, I gotta say this, he's a great father, a great husband, he's a, everything he's doing is amazing. LeBron James is a Hall of Fame human and the second basketball player in the history of time in my mind. His son should not be on the sideline with Luka and him and SGA and Jovic and these bo- LeBron should not be sitting over there with those type of players. I'm sorry, y'all ain't gonna run me off this. Y'all can say whatever the hell y'all want, y'all go cuz I ain't gonna run me off this.

• 31:09Fred Taylor?

Yeah, nah, I'll be quick because you're gonna continue to move the goalposts.

• 31:12Channing Crowder?

I'm not moving the goalposts, the boy should not be on the NBA bench, Fran.

• 31:16Fred Taylor?

  You don't see the potential?

• 31:18Channing Crowder?

Potential? Potential energy, that maybe it might happen? That doesn't get you an NBA. It's gradually happening. Fred, if his name was Bronny Gonzalez, would he be on their sideline? But we, we, we're past that. Can I please ask a question? If his name was Bronny Gonzalez, would he be on their sideline? It doesn't matter now. It does matter. He has a, he has a un, a unearned job and that's my problem with it. And that's why, and I know, I know.

• 31:48Ryan Clark?

So here's the thing, this is just my opinion. At some point, we have to get away from how he got there.

• 31:56Channing Crowder?

  Exactly.

• 31:57Ryan Clark?

Because at some point, we had to get away from how Kyle Shanahan got there. Right? We, we, we had to get away from how Sean McVay got there. And we had to start looking at him and being like, well, I don't know if his uncle knew this uncle or if his daddy was the head coach or whatever it is, those boys can do their job. Right? Because however you get in the door, you'll have more leeway. You may have more, a more of a leash, but at some point, you gotta go prove that you can accomplish what you were put there to accomplish. And in playing against Milwaukee, no matter what the score was, no matter what it was, like he had 17 points. He played in the first half, he had eight. He had nine in the second half. He led the team in scoring. And then he went to the G League and he hit 39.

• 32:41Ryan Clark?

And his averages in the G League are saying that maybe it doesn't make him the best G League player in the world. Maybe it doesn't make him the best 11th man off of the bench. But if you can go score 39 in the G League, if you can go average plus 20 something points, it says you are at least, in my opinion, this is my opinion, you are worthy of the 55th pick. Cause that pick doesn't guarantee you a star. That pick doesn't guarantee you that you're going to have an All-Star or an All-NBA player. But it says you will have a player who can possibly develop into an important role on your roster. And to me, that's what Bronny James is showing.

• 33:27Ryan Clark?

And I'm gonna say this, and it doesn't affect, doesn't make me biased towards what Bronny James has at least proven in the last week or over the last month or so in the G League. I listened to LeBron talk to Pat McAfee a couple of days ago, man, and...

• 33:45Ryan Clark?

You can't help but respect who he is, first off, as a man, and secondly, as a father. Because he said, even with what Bronny's accomplishing now, I'm already proud of him, whether or not he scores a point.

• 34:02Ryan Clark?

For what he went through with his health scare, what he's going through with the way people talk about the way that he's gotten there, the kid has at least shown he's made of something. And he talked a little bit about,

• 34:16Ryan Clark?

"I had to go talk to Stephen A. just to protect my house." I still feel how I feel about that, but it just made me really tap into the fact that he's just a dad, and he just loves his baby. And I can't imagine, you know, you made fun of like the first night, that photo op. And now I look back at it, I'm like, damn, if I could make that happen, I would make it too.

• 34:40Channing Crowder?

  Beautiful.

• 34:40Ryan Clark?

If I could get my son drafted, I'd get him drafted too. And now, he gotta go prove that he's at least worth that. And in my estimation, bro, Bronny James has proved he's at least worth that.

• 34:53Channing Crowder?

It's funny because it's human nature. I think Joe, when people see Joe's name, they're gonna say that's Ryan Clark's boy. He probably got something. He can grind, he can drive, he got... They're like, your name being attached to Joe, I really do believe it's gonna help him or get an extra look or a couple, three, four minutes of film, because that's Ryan Clark's boy. Let me go. I don't have no problem with, I don't have a problem with nepotism because it happens in every place in the world when these trust fund nobody babies get given these big million dollar companies. I understand that, but then you have to play. I just looked it up. G League top, top scorers, points per game. I went through 50 and there's no Bronny James in there.

• 35:38Channing Crowder?

He had one 40-point game, the other games were one. So now you do the math, and it's not gonna be in the top 50. I don't even know who's this. Bryce McGowan, Elijah Harkless, Trey Alexander, D.J. Davidson. Never heard of these kids.

• 35:55Channing Crowder?

But they're dropping 30 a night in G League? Why is Bronny sitting on the bench? And this is the thing with Stephen A. This is my whole thing when he walks, Stephen A. The, separate the art from the artist. That's your son. He's also an NBA player now.

• 36:13Channing Crowder?

  When Joe goes out there.

• 36:15Ryan Clark?

  I can't say a word.

• 36:16Channing Crowder?

He has to perform on that level. Joe drops back in cover two and they bop him on the post. I'mma text you, RC. I'mma be like, Joe gotta get back over to the middle. You know what I'm saying?

• 36:30Ryan Clark?

And I'mma block you, but I unblock you. Want something no longer pissed off.

• 36:34Channing Crowder?

And that's the thing with Stephen A. running up on him. We talked about it before. We're like, yeah, Bron run up on me, run up on me. But like, I'm looking at the player over the thing. As a parent, you could be a parent. Once your kid gets to a certain age, Bronny's not a kid. That's a grown ass man that just made eight million dollars. Let this man live. You actually running up on Stephen A., I would be embarrassed. Like I said before, if I was Bronny, if I was in locker room Bronny, I would run up and say, damn, your daddy still protecting you, bro? That would be my thing if I was in the locker room.

• 37:06Ryan Clark?

I had that same conversation with RG3. You know, before I went to Washington because I was doing TV. And my statement was, because, you know, his father would speak. I said, look, it's going to be hard for a locker room of fathers to respect a man whose father still speaks for him. You know, and so when it pertains to him speaking to Stephen A., I do still feel the exact same way I said. If you ask Bronny James, do you want your father doing that? But on the other side of that, like, you just have to, at least in my opinion, you have to recognize that on an NBA court, whether they scored, they were down 30 or not, Bronny James scored 17. It's a lot of players who were drafted ahead of him this year who haven't accomplished that.

• 37:52Ryan Clark?

And people ain't just out there saying, hey, Bronny, shoot it because LeBron's your pops. And so I think we have to acknowledge that.

• 38:00Speaker 04

• 38:29Ryan Clark?

In you talking about though with Bron and the kids, you know, I know you guys were having a conversation earlier about like supporting our kids' dreams and like pouring into them if they want to do a certain thing. What do you feel then is like our true responsibility to our children and their dreams and their goals and who they become, you know, because it can waver based on like what we like and what we want.

• 38:58Fred Taylor?

It goes back to Bronny a little bit, right? When I look at Bronny, I look at, you know, the pedigree. I look at the potential, but I also look at the scrutiny and the pressure that he has to overcome, right? From the public and all this different stuff. Now, as I speak about my children and what I want my kids to have, the same thing I want to see them have when I see Bronny. In spite of all that stuff, you never see that kid frowning. That kid always has a smile on his face. He is living out his dream. Regardless of where people try and place him and all this other crap, the pressure to live up to the public, whether it be the public or his fathers try to fill those shoes, this kid always has a smile on his face.

• 39:43Fred Taylor?

And as a parent, that's where I want my kid to be. We driving over here, we was talking about sports versus gaming and opportunity and percentages and all that stuff and making money. That's all good and then we know when it comes to sport, football at least, it's like the 1% of whatever, you know, a million six from youth to pros may be able to start earning and making money. And gaming, I don't know the statistic, but at the end of the day, if my kid wants to be a gamer, right? Cause he's making some funds now today gaming. If that's where he wants to be, we got one deal, one contract between us. You bring back As and Bs. And you get your devices, you can continue to do this, we are good to go.

• 40:27Fred Taylor?

I don't care, because when I look at him, I don't see a kid who's gonna go out there and be in front of your television on Saturday or Sunday or whatever night during the week playing professional sports. But I wanna nourish and nurture what excites him, right? And as long as he gets to the point where he's happy about what he's doing, that makes me happy. And I think as a parent, giving him an opportunity, introducing him to arenas where now he's exposed to these different things that he might wanna try and consider, whether he, something sticks or not. Look, you gave it a shot, boss, we're good to go. And I'm happy. And that's all I can ask for as a parent, that's it.

• 41:12Channing Crowder?

I'm very, I think I'm old school, whatever, people gonna criticize me for saying this, but excitement, happiness, and smiles don't pay bills. There's a lot of excited bums in the world that are happy to be where they are. I'm trying to prepare my kids to one day go off and succeed. So I'm trying to plant a seed of what is your future? You know what I'm saying? What is that future? And I understand there's gamers, I understand there's cosinette, there's some little white boy with green hair that makes a bunch of money, but I don't, my mind doesn't fathom that as a future. Like, my thing is that, are you gonna get good grades and be a doctor, attorney, lawyer, fireman, policeman, whatever you're, like, what is that job that you can now move out of my house and get off of the payroll of me?

• 41:58Channing Crowder?

And I think this is a very prehistoric thought. I don't know, I don't know what it is, but my thought is like, I'm trying to get my kids into something that's going to make them, at one point, have a focus to start a career. I don't want my children to have jobs, I want my children to have careers. And that's all I push. And like I said, I don't know if it's crazy to say that, but I need career-based motives. My boy plays baseball. I'm in a training today. Ava got into basketball. She has, she has personal training. She's on two different teams. Chan's on two different teams. He has a personal trainer, Manziel.

• 42:34Ryan Clark?

So Chan, what's the difference in pushing, like you said, Ava with the sports and those things, then Fred supporting and backing his kids in whether it's gaming or whatever it might be? Because the only thing I guess that seems different would be the ability to get a scholarship. But both of you have things in place for your kids if they do not get scholarships. So what's the difference in that?

• 42:59Channing Crowder?

I haven't seen the Ryan Clarks in gaming. I haven't seen the, I don't even know how, Colt McCoys of gaming. There's a lot of the RG3s of gaming. The damn, let's say the bust, the Jamarus Russells of gaming. I haven't seen that. I don't know what a bust of gaming looks like. I know, I know what, I know the athletic path and I know the career-based, doctor, lawyer, fireman, policeman, all that. I've seen it. Gaming, I haven't seen.

• 43:35Ryan Clark?

And so, but Chan, on the other side of that is while you're pursuing the athletic path, you have an opportunity to be pursuing the intellectual path as well, which you can do with gaming, right? You can be a gamer and also if it's something that your parents make a priority, sowing into your schoolwork. Because I would have to think that becoming a famous gamer is probably as difficult as becoming a famous football player or basketball player.

• 44:04Fred Taylor?

To add to that, RC, I think the only exception, as you mentioned, would probably be a scholarship.

• 44:09Ryan Clark?

  Yeah.

• 44:10Fred Taylor?

But they also have programs that encourage STEM. You know, and you can get into, much like my son Austin, he's into software engineering and different forms of engineering from gaming.

• 44:24Ryan Clark?

  Which is a career.

• 44:25Fred Taylor?

Which is a career. But what you have seen from sports, let's take Juju, for example. So much potential. And just like we've seen so many great athletes with so much potential, all it takes is a knee. Or spying, or something of that nature, not sending back mojo that way, but just keeping it 100. You push what you push. Again, going back to nurturing the space in which where our kids start to gravitate to. You know, you want to encourage and nurture and push them. And if you see what you might consider potential, much like a lot of other parents when it comes to sport, they nurture that, but they also are going to hammer grades, grades, grades.

• 45:09Fred Taylor?

Because you can't have one without the other when it comes to being a student athlete. And the same conversation I have with my son Braylon is that, you know, he told me years ago, I want to be a gamer. I want to be a YouTuber. We laughed at the YouTuber. We got a YouTuber that we've done a show with that now he's over to boxing, he's done much, make way more money than probably almost any athlete that you've come across or in the NFL that you've played against. So not to say that would happen, but again, I have to reinforce and also encourage that if this is what you want, this is how you get there. I don't know all the steps, but I know that if that doesn't work, we got grades. Because he can't have, again, one without the other.

• 45:54Fred Taylor?

These grades got to be A, B, nothing less, or those devices are gone, you can't play the games, you can't do the tournaments. You can't do any of that. But again, I try and make sure that as he travel with that, you know, that he wants to go and do gaming. I was like, all right, the plan B could be software engineering. He wants to go to Florida like his brother Austin and get into computer programming and all this other stuff.

• 46:20Ryan Clark?

I think the one thing we owe our kids, and I wish, and I'm sure somebody told me, I probably just didn't listen. The one thing we owe our kids is an example. I was lucky that I had a son who decided to do something I could help teach him do. Right, and part of that was to show him the work ethic that I thought it took to be successful in that, right, and you try to show your daughters that, you try to show them, hey, if you wanna, if you wanna bake, like, and you wanna be a pastry chef, there's a way to do that. If you wanna work in marketing, there's a way to do that, and the way to

• 47:04Ryan Clark?

do that is by hard work. I can't teach you how to do those things, but you should have seen me work hard. You knew that when you woke up to go to school that I wasn't here. You knew that when you got off the bus, I wasn't here, and you knew that because, and they, and you were told that I was at work. You were told I was watching extra film. You were told I was getting treatment, right? You, you gotta be that example for them, cuz I can't game, or if it was, if it was basketball, I can't teach you how to play basketball, but you watch me work. And to take that a step further, I think we need to focus more, and I wish I would have focused more on being that in life, period,

• 47:47Ryan Clark?

right? Because life is so cyclical, right? Think about it, like, we are born and people take care of us and bathe us and change our diapers, and if we live long enough, people will be taking care of us a- again. And when we grow up, we are doing things because our parents tell them to do them, and we wanna make our parents proud. That should eventually switch to what my parents taught me to do. I'll do that and live that way so my kids can mirror those examples, those experiences, those characteristics in me. From the way I work to the way I pray to my faithfulness, not only to God, but your

• 48:29Ryan Clark?

faithfulness in a marriage and a relationship, because they'll see that and learn, like, your son is gonna learn, like, this is the type of husband I should be, and in being that type of husband, this is the type of father I should be, and then your daughter's gonna look at that, like, that's the type of man I should marry, and that's the type of person I want to raise children with, right? And I look back and think about the ways you fail in some of those ways. It doesn't matter what you say as much as it matters what you do. And sometimes we start to think like,

They don't watch those everyday things. The way I treat the person that comes to the house daily. The way you treat the pool guy, the way you treat the lawn guy, the way you treat the electrician. Right, the, the way you make everybody in the building feel important. And I was just thinking about that, that like, I think about how many things I do very naturally that my dad did. Or how many things I do very naturally that I saw my mom do. And it wasn't that they preach, don't do this or do that. It was that I saw it, and I saw it through repetition, and through that repetition and that experience, that's what I became. And so if I could go back and do anything differently, it would be like, man, they are always watching.

• 49:48Ryan Clark?

I saw a video, this baby's watching the game with her dad, or with his dad. And they're watching the football game, and somebody scores. And the baby goes crazy, like, yeah! But it was the opposite team that the dad was cheering for. So the dad fell back on the couch with his hands on his head like that. And the baby saw him and fell back on the couch with his hands on his head like that, because that's what his dad was doing. And like, they just want to be us. And whether it's gaming, because gaming is not what you do. It's like, yeah, like, you can't be me because you can't run this ball like me. But you could be me by putting that work in. I think whatever they choose to do, man, we're, it's our job to be an example for them.

• 50:28Fred Taylor?

Chan, so even talking about, you know, your kids and, and sports. We talk about Bronny, the pressures. Haley Van Lith, she recently talked about mental health and suicidal thoughts, those conversations. And, and that's what we get a lot of times as parents. We go back and we say, all right, our kids are going to get into sport. We have to be cognizant of those things occurring when the pressures are on these kids to go out there and have to perform, to have to try to make it to the next level. What are your thoughts on that portion of it?

• 50:59Channing Crowder?

Man, it's so funny that you ask that, Fred, because recently, there is a Sheridan house down there in South Florida. And it's like, uh, the whole thing where black people don't go to therapy. We go to the barber shop. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's a joke about it. Asia recently had little Chan and Ava go and just talk to a therapist and talk to their, you know, cause talking to a parent is different. They're trying to impress you. It's, it's that whole, like, parent coaching thing. Where are you a coach or parent? And I think that, those lines get crossed. So we just recently had the kids go talk to somebody about that. But you wanna push them, you want them to succeed, you want them to work so hard. But also, the mental health side is something that we just recently started doing with our

• 51:42Channing Crowder?

two oldest kids because of that fact, because of, who was it? The Kevin Loves? Tennis.

• 51:46Ryan Clark?

  Mar DeRosen.

• 51:47Channing Crowder?

DeRosen, the tennis, the, um... Naomi. Naomi. And all them kept saying it.

• 51:51Ryan Clark?

  Naomi Osaka.

• 51:52Channing Crowder?

And we wanna create these, you know, we wanna create these, these great athletes and want them just to maximize their talents. But the mental side is also, so Chan got a batting coach, Ava has a, a one-on-one basketball coach and all that. Why can't they have a therapist as well at 11, 12, 13 years old? Let's put that into account as well. So answer your question, yes, recently, we have our children go talk to people.

• 52:14Ryan Clark?

Like, that's a place I had to grow, for sure. I almost associated having my child talk to a counselor or a therapist as the equivalent of me saying, "I think something's wrong with you."

• 52:29Channing Crowder?

  Mm-hmm.

• 52:30Ryan Clark?

If I could do it all over again, I would start it earlier with them. I was also brought up in that just tough it...

• 52:38Channing Crowder?

  Yeah.

• 52:38Ryan Clark?

Sort of era of life. Like, you're gonna have adversity. Life is gonna be hard. You're gonna have to deal with these things. Like, that's part of growing up. That's part of achieving. That's part of success. That's just a part of daily life. And I don't think, I just thought about the little things that happen to whether you're children or adults that happen in every day that continue to compound when you can't get it out. When you don't have an outlet for it. And listening to Haley Van Lith, man, who from the outside looking in, you know, when she transferred to LSU, you thought to yourself, okay, like this girl has it all. She just took a team to the Elite Eight. She's now transferring to LSU. She now has this NIL deal. You didn't know that that's what that young lady was going through.

• 53:22Ryan Clark?

And what I did love about what she said, man, was after the game, she said, you know what? I've just been standing on God's shoulders. I think when you have a time or a chance to like sit back and be where she is and see what you've been carried through, you realize that it's nothing but something like God. It's nothing but something that's bigger than you. Always think about the footprints, you know, photograph where, you know, it starts out and there's two sets of footprints and then there's only one set of footprints. And they ask, hey, God, why did you leave me? Right? When it started out, we were walking together. And God said, hey, when you only saw that one set, that's when I was carrying you.

• 54:04Channing Crowder?

  Yeah.

• 54:05Ryan Clark?

And I think we all have to be carried at some point, not only by our faith, but it sometimes takes help. You know, before we walked up here in my Uber, I was on the phone with my therapist and I had my weekly meeting. And sometimes you get on the phone and you really ain't got much to talk about. Sometimes it's just life and you're like, yeah, this happened and that happened and this happened. And you kind of get it out and have that conversation. And then sometimes you get off the phone and you say, man, I really needed that. So it's awesome that you and Asia are doing that for your children, you know, right now.

• 54:38Channing Crowder?

My therapist just sent me a overdue invoice. I owe him for two sessions.

• 54:44Ryan Clark?

  You should pay him.

• 54:45Channing Crowder?

I know I should pay him.

• 54:47Ryan Clark?

  You should pay him.

• 54:47Channing Crowder?

I don't know. I don't know where was the money coming from.

• 54:49Ryan Clark?

Put your money on direct deposit or something. Have the reoccurring bill.

• 54:53Channing Crowder?

I control my money. I like to owe people money. That means I'm in control of this financial back and forth.

• 54:58Ryan Clark?

No, I like that. And so, Freddie T, I'm glad you mentioned though Haley Van Lith because it's tournament time again, right?

• 55:07Ryan Clark?

And I've been watching and I've been paying attention to the women. But, bro, it's nothing like I was glued in last year to Cordoso, Dawn Staley in South Carolina, to Angel, Flage and LSU. And no matter what folks say, it was different when Katelyn was playing, bro.

• 55:26Channing Crowder?

  It was.

• 55:26Ryan Clark?

Even with Juju, Hannah Hidalgo, Flage still there. Haley Van Lith.

• 55:32Channing Crowder?

  UConn, Buker?

• 55:34Ryan Clark?

Uh, Paige Bukers, right? All these people, are you as tapped in? Or do you know as much about what's going on in this tournament as you did last year?

• 55:44Channing Crowder?

Not at all. And I want to say that Angel Reese, Katelyn, Clayton Clark and them girls last year got me tapped in more this year. Because I saw the competition, I saw what they were doing. I'm not as tapped in this. And Juju tearing her knee up as soon as it happened, fellas. I was sitting on the couch watching the game with my 12-year-old daughter that loves Juju. And I saw that right knee and I said, damn it. I knew something was wrong just how her knee turned. That last class that went out?

• 56:13Ryan Clark?

  Different.

• 56:14Channing Crowder?

Was different. It was different. There's some, there's some players now, but I think it gained a respect and it gained an attention around the nation of all sports fans like us that I don't know, I can't say it. I don't know who's coming up through the ranks, but I think that Katelyn Clark, Angel Reese, the good guy, bad guy, Joker, Batman, whatever that was, that really created something last year. And then Juju going down was just, man, my stomach, my stomach turning right now thinking about it.

• 56:43Fred Taylor?

Right, now I think everything you said, Chan, but also the storylines of it all. You know, Juju's amazing story and it's so unfortunate to see her go down. You know, especially with how USC was starting to pick up and excel in their brackets.

• 57:00Fred Taylor?

I think with social media, NIL exposure in itself, these girls, they won't lose popularity. You know, it won't just fall off, right? They've created, they did something last year that was so magical and special with the amount of girls that they had and the amount of stories that were centered around Angel, around Katelyn. So I think, yeah, it might be some drop off for the Juju fans per se, but I think as a whole, what they brought to the table last year, it even has someone like me, for example. I didn't watch a lot of it beforehand. I would wait until the final and watch it, but now I pick and choose and watch the different games.

• 57:40Fred Taylor?

So it'll take the casual fan like myself have started to grow to like women's sports more. They'll still be tapped in, I believe.

• 57:49Channing Crowder?

And the commercials, that Nike commercial, they say you can't do it, so do it.

• 57:52Ryan Clark?

  So hard.

• 57:52Channing Crowder?

That is a hard commercial with Sha'Carri, Jordan Charles, Asia. Bro, it's picking up and for them to get that, knowing, you know, I'm a pocket watcher. Knowing that they're getting paid now, but they are on the national stage. And when Juju got hurt, they went to commercial and the first face you saw was Juju. That's what made me kind of tear up and like I was saying. But just to see that fame, the transition of what these women deserve and that if you can't do it, do it type thing. That's what I think. I think last year created something for these young women that are, it's going to be special and honestly, sustainable.

• 58:33Ryan Clark?

Yeah, I think what happened in women's sports is sustainable. I read something the other day that women's sports is going to earn something like $2.4 billion. Right? So we're in a different realm of what the way women are seen, right? And the way that not only companies attach themselves to them, but the media is now attaching themselves to them. Hell, even talking to Natasha and unrivaled in what they were able to do for those 36 women. So I do believe that's changing. I don't know, and we probably did, if we gave Katelyn Clark, Angel Reese enough credit.

• 59:13Ryan Clark?

The rivalry that that created, the storylines that were able to come out of that, on top of excellent play, will never be matched. It's the reason we know more about Paige, or we knew more about Juju, or we knew more about Flage. It was because they got to be a part of us tapping in to see that story. I think it was perfect for the time where people wanted to push women's sports, and they gave them a way to push it without just saying, "Look at how talented they are." Right. Let's attach to the white girl with the extreme shooting ability that's carrying a team of two stars.

• 59:57Ryan Clark?

Right? Let's make her the superhero. Let's everybody pull for her to drag this team to the championship again. Let's attach ourselves to this black girl who comes out with the lashes and the hair and the makeup, and plays hard as hell, right? But is also proud to be who she is. Let's attach ourselves to her, and let's make sure when we build this bracket, that they don't have to win their bracket to meet in the Final Four. We gonna make sure they meet in the Elite Eight. Right? They put us in a position where we got to see, "Oh, wait, but South Carolina's good, too." And then this year, you're like, "Oh, but Hannah Hidalgo's good, too." Remember, she was that freshman at Notre Dame that we saw the year before when we was watching Katelyn Clark and watching everybody.

• 1:00:38Ryan Clark?

And I think that women's sports as a whole, but the NCAA for sure, has a sustainable model of now creating stars. And the media has to continue to push those storylines. But if anybody ever thinks they're gonna get Katelyn Clark and Angel Reese again, they're out of their minds. Right. It's the same way we got Bird and Magic. And that changed the game forever. The only problem is Juju was Jordan. And now she tore her ACL, so we gotta make sure she come back like Mike.

• 1:01:14Channing Crowder?

Juju and Paige, that would've been good.

• 1:01:18Ryan Clark?

I don't know if Lisa told you, but I got a text from somebody that said they gonna stop by. They got some things they want to hash out with me. You gonna get beat up? Probably not.

• 1:01:33Ryan Clark?

  We'll catch y'all on Tuesday.
