• 0:05George Kamel?

Today, we're playing Battle of the Bad Money Habits, bracket style. And that is the sportiest we're ever gonna get on this show. You're welcome.

• 0:12Rachel Cruze?

Oh, I do that all the time. For this example, let's just say that the people asking for money are terrible people.

• 0:21George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 0:22Rachel Cruze?

And then they have King George over here in his house.

• 0:27George Kamel?

No, you did not pull the Keurig out of the trash. I prefer the taste. No, you didn't.

• 0:33Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, I did.

• 0:38Rachel Cruze?

  Hey, guys, I'm Rachel Cruz.

• 0:40George Kamel?

  I'm George Kamel.

• 0:42Rachel Cruze?

  And this is

• 0:43George Kamel?

  Smart Money Happy Hour.

• 0:48George Kamel?

  Cheers.

• 0:50Rachel Cruze?

Well, this is a show where two friends who happen to be money experts talk about what you're talking about. So everything from pop culture, current events, and money.

• 0:57George Kamel?

And let's talk about what we're sipping on as we get into it. This is a Pisco Sour.

• 1:02Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, Pisco.

• 1:03George Kamel?

And you have a mocktail edition, I understand.

• 1:06Rachel Cruze?

I do, yes, I know. I just didn't feel like the old alcohol today, George.

• 1:10George Kamel?

Well, they doubled it for me, in lieu of yours. So it should be a fun show. Stick around till the end. We're gonna give you our rating and reveal the cost per glass. You don't wanna miss that.

• 1:18Rachel Cruze?

  That's right.

• 1:19George Kamel?

Well, you know what they say, if you can't be the best, be the worst.

• 1:23Rachel Cruze?

Is that like your life motto, George?

• 1:25George Kamel?

It's, I try to live by it.

• 1:26Rachel Cruze?

  You love that?

• 1:27George Kamel?

As someone who could never be the best at anything.

• 1:29Rachel Cruze?

Be the worst, come on, George.

• 1:31George Kamel?

I'm here to inspire the people.

• 1:32Rachel Cruze?

Yes, okay, so if you can't be the best, be the worst. Worst, you know, money decisions, money habits, if you will. Do you have one in mind that you just cringe and you think that is a bad, whether it's like a money decision, money, just like a thing?

• 1:48George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 1:49Rachel Cruze?

  Right, and you're like, no.

• 1:50George Kamel?

The one that worries me that is like widespread is buy now, pay later. I've just never met someone who's ever put anything on four payments through Klarna or Afterpay or a firm who I was like, oh, they're doing pretty good. They're on a good trajectory.

• 2:04Rachel Cruze?

  Uh huh.

• 2:05George Kamel?

And now it's become everything. You can put a hot dog from Costco on payments.

• 2:09Rachel Cruze?

  Hundred percent, yes.

• 2:09George Kamel?

  It's out of control.

• 2:10Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 2:10George Kamel?

How about you? Any cringe money habits that you're seeing?

• 2:13Rachel Cruze?

Um, you know, one that just came to mind, because I'm watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

• 2:19George Kamel?

  We assume that.

• 2:19Rachel Cruze?

And there's a new cast member, and I always hate to like say the name, because I don't know, what if? She sees this and I make her feel bad about herself. I'm not that kind of woman, George.

• 2:28George Kamel?

You think you're the first person to critique a Real Housewife?

• 2:31Rachel Cruze?

But I... But she talks about her money a lot of like, oh, this. Oh, I spent $10,000 this. I like, I, like, she's just so...

• 2:42George Kamel?

  Is it the braggadocious nature?

• 2:45Rachel Cruze?

Yes. And it's funny because some of the older cast members, like, they'll do like the cameos of them, like monologues, you know?

• 2:51George Kamel?

Where it cuts to them talking about it?

• 2:53Rachel Cruze?

It's so tacky. Like, you just don't do that, you know? But she's just, it's a lot. So that's what I was thinking about. I thought, man, that is gross. We don't like when people have to drop how much money they make or how much they spent on this and then they have 13 of those. You know what I'm saying?

• 3:06George Kamel?

Yeah. It's like, I'm really trying to show you...

• 3:09Rachel Cruze?

Which makes me think you don't really have the money. Do you know what I'm saying?

• 3:12George Kamel?

Well, when a Real Housewife is calling you out for being tacky, you know you've gone too far.

• 3:17Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, right? So that's it. Yeah. So maybe that's it. That's my cringe. I don't know if that's like a money... It's not really a money purchase or decision, but it's just that...

• 3:24George Kamel?

Well, the money habit behind it is like flexing about how much you spend on things.

• 3:28Rachel Cruze?

Yeah. Or like call out of like, oh, my Chanel back. Like, you don't need to say it. Like, we see the two Cs. You don't need to like say it. We know. So, yeah.

• 3:37George Kamel?

I thought it was Charlie Chaplin, but I guess I'm mistaken. He had a luxury line. People don't talk about it.

• 3:42Rachel Cruze?

  Wait, what?

• 3:43George Kamel?

  I'm just kidding. I'm joking.

• 3:45Rachel Cruze?

Wasn't he like the silent, uh...

• 3:48George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 3:49Rachel Cruze?

  Actor?

• 3:49George Kamel?

That's what makes it funny. He's the last guy you would think would drop the luxury handbag line. Good memory, though. I'm impressed.

• 3:57Rachel Cruze?

Thank you. I got real nervous. At first I thought it might be like an athlete, but then I thought it's coming from George.

• 4:01George Kamel?

You think I knew an athlete?

• 4:02Rachel Cruze?

No, as I said, it's not coming...

• 4:03George Kamel?

Unless they were in Space Jam, I do not know this athlete.

• 4:06Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh. I know. Well, speaking of sports...

• 4:10George Kamel?

Big month for sports. A lot of people talking about their brackets.

• 4:13Rachel Cruze?

Yes. So there is a whole bracket world. Do you do that bracket?

• 4:18George Kamel?

Uh, no. Like, there's a workplace one that goes around, you know, where you can, I don't know, squares or whatever, and you can do $5 and...

• 4:25Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 4:25George Kamel?

I've never found it interesting. And I'm like, I'd rather save my $5.

• 4:29Rachel Cruze?

But you wouldn't even like log in and like do like a...

• 4:31George Kamel?

I wouldn't even know what to log in to. What are we signing into?

• 4:35Rachel Cruze?

  I think like ESPN.com, I think.

• 4:38George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 4:38Rachel Cruze?

The only reason I do it, my nephews do it. So we do, and we usually are on a trip with Winston's family during this time. And they're, they're all like a basketball family.

• 4:45George Kamel?

So this is how you connect with the youth?

• 4:47Rachel Cruze?

  Do I, I think so.

• 4:49George Kamel?

Yeah, who do you got your bet on?

• 4:50Rachel Cruze?

What's funny is if you don't know a lot about basketball, you're, you actually have better odds than those people that actually know, because there's so many upsets, like in the tournament. So it's actually kind of better to be, that's what I always tell myself, even though I haven't won, but.

• 5:03George Kamel?

That's good. I'm often upset by sports as well, so I understand. And P, I feel like, can I just say, a lot of fair weather basketball fans out there who like jump on it, you know?

• 5:12Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 5:13George Kamel?

Like, they don't really care, but they're like, I guess I should care.

• 5:15Rachel Cruze?

Because of the bracket, yes. Yeah. Well, so as much as we love brackets, we decided to do our own this episode, you know, in the spirit of where we're at in March. And we decided to do the two, two, well, how does a bracket work? Two against, two, there's two bad money decisions.

• 5:34George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 5:34Rachel Cruze?

We have to vote or figure out which is the worst. And then we move it.

• 5:40George Kamel?

  Yep.

• 5:40Rachel Cruze?

And then the same thing keeps happening and you keep moving and moving and you go against each other until you have the worst financial decision? What do we call it?

• 5:50George Kamel?

Yeah. No, you nailed that explanation. I think that was the clearest explanation of how brackets work known to man. Add that to the Wikipedia page for brackets, verbatim. Like, put that on text editors. Like, make that a whole, I want to see it all in writing to show Rachel.

• 6:07Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, she means she wants a bracket.

• 6:08George Kamel?

And she has a communication degree. This is crazy.

• 6:12Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, my gosh.

• 6:13George Kamel?

That is a difficult thing to explain, but you're right. You start with a lot of options and they face off and there's a winner and it goes to the next face off and the next face off.

• 6:22Rachel Cruze?

  Yours was so precise.

• 6:23George Kamel?

Until you're down to one winner.

• 6:24Rachel Cruze?

  And clear.

• 6:25George Kamel?

  I'm a man of brevity.

• 6:26Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, man.

• 6:27George Kamel?

It's gonna be fun. I can't wait. We're gonna take turns defending the bad spending habits for 15 seconds and eventually agree. Maybe not defending, but maybe roasting and whatever the worst roast is, I think should get the title for worst and then we move on.

• 6:41Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 6:41George Kamel?

And let us know in the comments section if we are missing the mark, if we missed any in general. We'd love to for you guys to play along with us.

• 6:48Rachel Cruze?

All right, first up, man, this is, the ladies are getting thrown under the bus here in this first one.

• 6:53George Kamel?

  We'll get to the guys.

• 6:54Rachel Cruze?

The guys will come. Okay. Manicure every three weeks, $50 plus tip.

• 7:00George Kamel?

For each manicure, every three weeks. Okay.

• 7:02Rachel Cruze?

Yeah. And if it's dip, it's gonna be more expensive, but you got it. Okay, just that range. Uh, or botox every three months for $400. Which is worse?

• 7:16George Kamel?

That's tough. I mean, the problem is financially speaking, which one is worse? I guess three weeks, $50. That's tough. That's tough on the math there.

• 7:28Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, but if the nails break, you gotta go back. Like, there's, you know.

• 7:31George Kamel?

Yeah. How long does the botox only last every three months? Like, it runs out?

• 7:36Rachel Cruze?

  Three to four months.

• 7:37George Kamel?

And then what happens? Your face melts again until you have to re-shoot it?

• 7:42Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh. Okay, someone that has had it, okay? I'll just be so transparent, but I got what's called baby botox because it was only like, I think it was like 14 or 16 units where some people get like 50 to 60.

• 7:56George Kamel?

Oh, you can like microdose botox now?

• 8:00George Kamel?

I'm learning along with everyone watching at home. Okay.

• 8:04Rachel Cruze?

  That's it. Yes.

• 8:04George Kamel?

  So it's measured in units?

• 8:06Rachel Cruze?

I got a microdose of botox. Yeah. But I do mine here because my elevens are bad.

• 8:13George Kamel?

Oh, okay. When you said elevens, it's two marks around the nose?

• 8:16Rachel Cruze?

Do you want it? Do you, how deep do you want to go on these? How much time do we have?

• 8:19George Kamel?

I am totally new to this world.

• 8:20Rachel Cruze?

So I have hooded eyelids. Okay, so stay with me. So if you do hooded eyelids and if you do, the botox up here, if they go up here. That brings it down because it relax, it basically paralyzes your muscles. So your forehead doesn't move a ton, right?

• 8:34George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 8:35Rachel Cruze?

And then that, but I have hooded lids. So you gotta, I gotta, so I get a couple up here just to kind of like raise the eyes a little bit because it slumps and raises, so it works against each other.

• 8:44George Kamel?

Oh, I never heard of the hooded lid.

• 8:46Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, I really want a upper bleff when I turn 45. That's, I'm already.

• 8:50George Kamel?

I'm sorry, what was a bleff?

• 8:51Rachel Cruze?

  I know, George.

• 8:52George Kamel?

  What is a bleff?

• 8:52Rachel Cruze?

We're getting, we're getting deep into the.

• 8:54George Kamel?

I have so much to learn.

• 8:55Rachel Cruze?

You know, yeah, and I don't, you know, I, I color my hair, I get my nails done, do a couple of things. And some people are like, oh my gosh, you shouldn't have to do anything. You're beautiful. But listen, I want to, you know, I, I like, I like having a.

• 9:06George Kamel?

  It's your American right.

• 9:07Rachel Cruze?

But I still can move my eyebrows because I gotta be expressive on this show.

• 9:09George Kamel?

It's not like one of those, wow, if you can, if I'm like, wow, she got botox, that's always a bad sign.

• 9:14Rachel Cruze?

  A hundred percent.

• 9:15George Kamel?

Like a haircut, you never want to be like, wow, they got a haircut.

• 9:22George Kamel?

You want it to be a little bit, now unless you got a chop, like the women, they get a chop.

• 9:25Rachel Cruze?

The bob is in and some people went long to short.

• 9:27George Kamel?

Maybe cologne is a better example. If I'm like, wow, you're wearing cologne.

• 9:31Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's how I feel, yes. All that to say, which is worse? I'm gonna go botox. I think people do a worse job of botox than nails.

• 9:41George Kamel?

  Oh, a worse job?

• 9:42Rachel Cruze?

Just like in general, I just think you can mess up this really fast if you do just like too much. You know what I mean?

• 9:48George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 9:48Rachel Cruze?

  So for the, um.

• 9:50George Kamel?

But for my bad money habit.

• 9:52Rachel Cruze?

And the money, uh, I'm gonna go botox because I think you will eventually end up doing more and more botox and it will get more and more expensive over time. Wear the nails, pretty much unless they just like raise their price, you're fine.

• 10:04George Kamel?

Yeah, well, yeah, botox, is there like a, all right, I'm just gonna stop doing it or is that?

• 10:07Rachel Cruze?

  Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 10:09George Kamel?

  Okay, nothing bad will happen.

• 10:10Rachel Cruze?

Like I've gone like a year or two without it, yeah.

• 10:11George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 10:12Rachel Cruze?

  Yes, so no, you're fine.

• 10:13George Kamel?

Well, nails, you could learn to do that yourself. Botox, you need like a medical, like, if you're doing DIY botox. Gosh, send us pics.

• 10:21Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, we want to see. Alright, okay, I'm on Botox. You?

• 10:25George Kamel?

Yeah, you sold me on Botox. At first I said nails because it's a financial habit where you're trying to, you know, you're really trying to flex. Whereas the Botox may have more merit to it?

• 10:34Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, and I think it could get more expensive because I think some people can get addicted to it. And then they're like, ooh, let me do my like crow's feet here. And then let me do my smile. Let me, like, I feel like you just keep going.

• 10:44George Kamel?

You can get out of control.

• 10:45Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 10:46George Kamel?

And it is hard to go back. Your nails are like, okay, cool. I can have new nails in a month.

• 10:50Rachel Cruze?

Sure. Alright, let's, uh, let's move on, George.

• 10:53George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 10:54Rachel Cruze?

Next one. Sports betting with all your extra income or buy now, pay later payments robbing you monthly?

• 11:02George Kamel?

These are two of my least favorite things coming together.

• 11:05Rachel Cruze?

  These are the two?

• 11:06George Kamel?

Well, here's some, uh, a stat for you. Statistic Consumer Insights, 41% of US adults have used buy now, pay later services in the past 12 months.

• 11:15Rachel Cruze?

  Good.

• 11:15George Kamel?

So I think overall, more people are probably using buy now, pay later.

• 11:18Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 11:19George Kamel?

And it's become, you know, billion plus dollar industry, but then so has sports betting.

• 11:23Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 11:24George Kamel?

The issue I have with sports betting, I think it's more addictive than buy now, pay later.

• 11:27Rachel Cruze?

I was gonna say that too.

• 11:28George Kamel?

While being more widely accepted because it's just a social thing you do with your friends. It's entertaining.

• 11:33Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 11:33George Kamel?

So it's, it's, you, it's easier to justify sports betting as just, bro, we're just having fun, bro. It's not a big deal.

• 11:40Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 11:40George Kamel?

Buy now, pay later, I don't think anyone is like, well, this was a really smart financial decision.

• 11:44Rachel Cruze?

  Sure.

• 11:45George Kamel?

So I'm going sports betting personally.

• 11:48Rachel Cruze?

I would too, because I think it can go, I think it's a slippery slope. And I just feel like you get more in more trouble with sports betting. I don't know why. It feels like a darker hole that you'd fall into.

• 11:57George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 11:57Rachel Cruze?

Than buy now, pay later with Abercrombie jeans. You know what I mean? Sports betting.

• 12:02George Kamel?

  That's gotta take the cake.

• 12:03Rachel Cruze?

My favorite is that we're gonna have sports betting versus Botox coming up. Get ready.

• 12:08George Kamel?

Guys versus, now, I assume some girls are doing sports betting and maybe some guys are getting Botox. Who am I to judge in 2026?

• 12:16Rachel Cruze?

That is true. I know. And you know what else is possible?

• 12:18George Kamel?

  What's that?

• 12:19Rachel Cruze?

Buying things online that you love.

• 12:22George Kamel?

  With cash.

• 12:23Rachel Cruze?

  That's why I love.

• 12:24George Kamel?

  With money you have.

• 12:24Rachel Cruze?

With money you have. And that's why we love going to CozyEarth.com and getting some Cozy Earth products. Just amazing. I spent so much of my weekend in my Cozy Earth stuff. I really did.

• 12:34George Kamel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 12:35Rachel Cruze?

The pants, the socks. I've been wearing the socks a lot, the sheets. I mean, all of it. It's just, it's amazing.

• 12:40George Kamel?

And they have stuff for men and women, including bedding with 10-year warranty. They have like sleep trials. You can sleep on it for like 100 nights and get your money back hassle-free on anything you get from them. And so they're quality people making quality products.

• 12:54Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 12:55George Kamel?

And it truly, you're bringing some luxury into your home and we all want to live like that and they make it affordable. Thanks to our discount.

• 13:00Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I know. We have an amazing discount, actually up to 20% off if you put in SMARTMONEY. Use the code when you check out or you can go to cozylearth.com/smartmoney and shop there because, I mean, honestly, for me too, the gifts. I give it for gifts a lot. Like, I'll go in and so they have so much on that website, you guys, from bedding, clothes, beauty, all of it. So make sure to check it out. All right, George, battle number three. Leasing a new car every two to three years, $600 a month.

• 13:30George Kamel?

  Oof.

• 13:31Rachel Cruze?

Or doordashing your dinner three times a week at $150 a week. What's a worse financial decision?

• 13:38George Kamel?

That is, that is tough. These are such different worlds.

• 13:42Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 13:44George Kamel?

Here's the thing with leasing a car. It's really hard to get out. So I think as far as like a little prison you've created for yourself, leasing a new car is a worse habit as far as zeros on the end.

• 13:54Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 13:55George Kamel?

So that one is, is the winner in my book right now. Now, doordashing your dinner three times a week, that's a sign of just sloppiness and laziness. You don't know how to cook, you're too tired to cook, whatever it is. That's a more fixable problem than getting out of your lease. And getting out of the habit of, well, I need to have a brand-new, really nice car all the time.

• 14:13Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I know. I think the car thing can, I think that's more dangerous financially overall because it continues. Like, it's a hard, it's a hard cycle to stop, right?

• 14:22George Kamel?

If you called The Ramsey Show and said, "Hey, I'm on this car lease. Help me get out," versus, "I doordash three times a week. Help." I'm like, "Great, we can solve the doordash problem pretty quick."

• 14:30Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 14:30George Kamel?

Delete the app and stop doordashing.

• 14:32Rachel Cruze?

Yep, yep. I'm with you, George. Okay, I think we agree.

• 14:35George Kamel?

Car leasing wins as far as the worst habit.

• 14:38Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 14:38George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 14:38Rachel Cruze?

  The car lease.

• 14:40George Kamel?

Moving on, bracket battle number four. Constantly asking family for financial help. That's one habit. Forty-eight percent of parents have given money to their adult children in the last 12 months. Guessing you're in the 52%.

• 14:53Rachel Cruze?

  Do what, Dave?

• 14:54George Kamel?

Have you hit up Dave and Sharon?

• 14:55Rachel Cruze?

Dave? Can you give me, Venmo me, 100 bucks, please?

• 14:59George Kamel?

  Is that how you ask?

• 14:59Rachel Cruze?

I don't know what that voice was.

• 15:00George Kamel?

I'm like, hey, props for the accent, give her 20 bucks.

• 15:03Rachel Cruze?

  Hey, Dave.

• 15:04George Kamel?

  Hi, Dave.

• 15:04Rachel Cruze?

  Hi, Dave.

• 15:06George Kamel?

And next up, borrowing from next month's budget or planning your next vacation while you're currently on vacation.

• 15:11Rachel Cruze?

Oh, I do that all, I do that all the time.

• 15:14George Kamel?

  Borrowing from next month's budget.

• 15:16Rachel Cruze?

So what, the borrowing, is that like you're using money?

• 15:20George Kamel?

  Future money you don't?

• 15:21Rachel Cruze?

  Have yet.

• 15:22George Kamel?

  Have yet?

• 15:24Rachel Cruze?

I'm gonna say that, oh man, I think I'm gonna say the parent one. And the only reason is, it's the consistent, consistently. That word is big in that sentence. But I think every now and then, right, people can travel and the parents have the financial means and they wanna, you know, help in a situation. It's not terrible, right? But it's the consistency that like starts to create possibly enabling bad habits, not great boundaries, I don't know, it starts to get, it could get messy.

• 15:48George Kamel?

Yeah, if you're relying on family and there's, it becomes a codependence.

• 15:52Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, so go with me here, are you ready?

• 15:54George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 15:55Rachel Cruze?

Borrowing for next month. If you have an income that's consistent, like you have like a salary job, you know that money's coming. So if you're not going into debt for it.

• 16:06George Kamel?

Yeah, borrowing is in quotes here, meaning you're not technically going into debt.

• 16:09Rachel Cruze?

You're just thinking like, okay, I'm gonna spend $400 on clothes this month. Where I'm supposed to spend 300, but I have the extra 100 and I'll just take it out of next month.

• 16:20George Kamel?

Next month, essentially. Yeah, not a good habit, but asking family for financial help is, it's a much darker, sadder state of affairs.

• 16:27Rachel Cruze?

Yeah. Okay, I'm gonna go family.

• 16:29George Kamel?

Yeah. And the other thing is, we get calls around this, whether it's the person enabling and giving the money, or the person asking for the money. Uh, usually it's from the person who's been doing the giving and they're like, how do I make this stop?

• 16:40Rachel Cruze?

  I know.

• 16:41George Kamel?

Cause you give them an inch, they take a mile. And so, here's the rule around this.

• 16:45Rachel Cruze?

  George.

• 16:45George Kamel?

I'm just saying, they're, they're gonna be coming back to Bank of Rachel. And so here's the thing, if it's a one time, they're in a rut and you wanna help them out.

• 16:53Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 16:54George Kamel?

Great, gift the money, never lend to family, or anyone for that matter.

• 16:58Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 16:59George Kamel?

But if it's a unsustainable situation and you're just gonna fund the difference in perpetuity.

• 17:05Rachel Cruze?

  Forever.

• 17:05George Kamel?

That's a very dangerous place to be. And it ruins the relationship.

• 17:09Rachel Cruze?

Can I ask you this, George? Baby steps seven are over there.

• 17:13George Kamel?

You're gonna be like, if Mia asked you, your daughter.

• 17:15Rachel Cruze?

I was just saying, go with me, go with me. Can I just say, go with me, hold on, go with me.

• 17:20George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 17:22Rachel Cruze?

  Mia's a teacher.

• 17:24George Kamel?

Okay, an honorable profession, may I add.

• 17:27Rachel Cruze?

Is working at a nonprofit that helps foster children get placed. So they don't have to be in the foster care system, they're in like a different, you know, like.

• 17:39George Kamel?

  What a guy.

• 17:39Rachel Cruze?

  Whatever.

• 17:40George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 17:40Rachel Cruze?

And they're awesome. They're responsible, they are mature. They understand the field that they have chosen are not gonna pay a lot, right? Like, they, they know that, but it's where they feel like they're called. And then they have King George over here in his house. I'm just asking, I'm just asking the question.

• 18:02George Kamel?

  One of my many houses.

• 18:03Rachel Cruze?

  Is it, is it ever?

• 18:04George Kamel?

I may add, which one am I in?

• 18:06Rachel Cruze?

You know what I'm saying, no, is there ever a situation where you're like, you know what? We're gonna, um, we're gonna help pay for Mia's, little Mia, for, to go to private. No, you don't like private schools, shoot, that's a bad example.

• 18:20George Kamel?

  I never said I don't like.

• 18:21Rachel Cruze?

Saying like, like, like, I'm gonna, you know what I mean? Like, I have two healthy adults.

• 18:26George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 18:26Rachel Cruze?

You've done well, you've chosen a great profession.

• 18:28George Kamel?

I'm happy to spoil the grandkids.

• 18:30Rachel Cruze?

Like, but like, you know, you're helping them out and, I don't know. Is that so wrong, is my question?

• 18:37George Kamel?

I, I think the spirit and intent and where they're at financially matters a lot. If they're going into debt for, to live a life they really can't afford, that's one thing.

• 18:46Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 18:47George Kamel?

But if they're just, hey, they don't make a lot, they're happy, they're debt free. But it's just, you know, I wanna be able to bless them.

• 18:53Rachel Cruze?

Money's like really tight and like a thousand dollars extra would be like life-changing to them.

• 18:57George Kamel?

If she came to me with a need and it was like, hey, we need this thing. We need to get new washer and dryer, ours is out. I'd be like, alright, I'm happy to cover that.

• 19:06Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 19:06George Kamel?

If they're in a rut. But if it was like, every week, money please, you know?

• 19:11Rachel Cruze?

Okay, but here's the thing, they're not asking, but you got George over here who's making millions in his mutual fund.

• 19:16George Kamel?

Wow, thank you, I love this reality.

• 19:18Rachel Cruze?

Would you just say like, yeah, an extra thousand bucks a month for Mia and Jared, you know?

• 19:23George Kamel?

Please don't be Jared. And this is not a knock to Jared's. I just don't want my Mia with any Jared.

• 19:33George Kamel?

Lot of great Jareds out there.

• 19:34Rachel Cruze?

I just made him a name.

• 19:36George Kamel?

Well, you really pushed a button.

• 19:39George Kamel?

  Here's my thing.

• 19:40Rachel Cruze?

I'm just trying to see if there's any like where.

• 19:41George Kamel?

Yeah, there's some wiggle room here and I am of the mentality that I want to give inheritance when it really helps them while they're young.

• 19:48Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 19:49George Kamel?

  Versus when I'm 85 and they're 60.

• 19:52Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, 100%. I agree with that.

• 19:53George Kamel?

Where they don't need it. So I would, you know, there's gift tax where you could give 18 grand per.

• 19:59Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 19:59George Kamel?

Per parent. So they could get 36 grand a year.

• 20:02Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 20:02George Kamel?

  As a gift from me.

• 20:03Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 20:04George Kamel?

  I'm open to that, actually.

• 20:05Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 20:05George Kamel?

As a way to set them up with some clear boundaries.

• 20:08Rachel Cruze?

George, you're like the Grinch, but your heart has grown.

• 20:10George Kamel?

But only if they've been great stewards. Here's the caveat, only if they've been great stewards with the money they've.

• 20:14Rachel Cruze?

No, I agree with that. I agree with that. We're not going to be funding some crazy entitledness like, because that's the thing, the spirit behind it is really big. I don't know.

• 20:22George Kamel?

And I will spoil the grandkids.

• 20:23Rachel Cruze?

But I will say for this example, let's just say that the, the people asking for money are terrible people.

• 20:30George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 20:30Rachel Cruze?

  And they just are terrible.

• 20:31George Kamel?

  They have terrible financial habits.

• 20:32Rachel Cruze?

Terrible with their money and they're constantly asking their parents. So we'll go on the more unhealthy side of this argument for the sake of it.

• 20:38George Kamel?

That was a great, thank you for really bringing the best out of me there.

• 20:40Rachel Cruze?

  Thank you.

• 20:41George Kamel?

You really forced me to realize I would do that.

• 20:43Rachel Cruze?

  Unbelievable. Okay. Ready?

• 20:45George Kamel?

  Yep.

• 20:46Rachel Cruze?

Fancy coffees three times a week for $21 a week.

• 20:50George Kamel?

  So that's $7 a pop.

• 20:51Rachel Cruze?

Yep. Or for getting to cancel a streaming service for six months at $9.99 a month.

• 20:58George Kamel?

  Ooh. Okay, so the subscription.

• 21:01Rachel Cruze?

  I'm going fancy coffee.

• 21:02George Kamel?

Subscription is less per month. Yeah, canceling a streaming subscription, I don't think is a like moral failure on your part of wow, you're terrible with money.

• 21:09Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 21:10George Kamel?

Now, there's a forgetfulness there. There's a lack of intentionality. The three coffees a week, I think is just a harder habit to break.

• 21:16Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm. I agree.

• 21:18George Kamel?

  That's a lifestyle shift.

• 21:19Rachel Cruze?

I don't know. And again, I'm just not a big coffee person. Do you know what's happened, George?

• 21:23George Kamel?

You got a nice coffee maker finally? Because Winston cares about standards and quality and being classy.

• 21:30Rachel Cruze?

And guess who still, who went back?

• 21:32George Kamel?

No, you did not pull the Keurig out of the trash and went, I like the Keurig better, actually. I prefer the taste. No, you didn't.

• 21:41Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, I did.

• 21:41George Kamel?

Is it on the counter or is it like in a dark corner somewhere?

• 21:44Rachel Cruze?

Tucked in to like a little cabinet.

• 21:46George Kamel?

  Good.

• 21:47Rachel Cruze?

And I, um, so that, so we had two Keurig's. We had like the one in our bedroom. That's where we make our coffee every morning.

• 21:54George Kamel?

  Oh, okay.

• 21:54Rachel Cruze?

And then we had like a, like a small one in our kitchen. So we kept the small one because you can do hot water through it and the kids like when they do like, um, hot chocolate and stuff, we'll use that.

• 22:03George Kamel?

  Oh, that's fun.

• 22:04Rachel Cruze?

Boiling water. So we have the nice one in our room, actually, which is kind of funny, but that's what we've decided.

• 22:10George Kamel?

  It's what the queen demands.

• 22:11Rachel Cruze?

So, yeah, but when I get a coffee to go, I always go back to my Keurig, George. I just kind of like it.

• 22:19George Kamel?

And to be clear, the coffee maker Winston got for you.

• 22:22Rachel Cruze?

Didn't get for me. I mean, he kind of got it for him.

• 22:25George Kamel?

  Sure.

• 22:25Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 22:26George Kamel?

But it was in a sense, he was trying to upgrade your life.

• 22:29Rachel Cruze?

  Yes, he was.

• 22:29George Kamel?

And get you away from the cheap, terrible coffee.

• 22:32Rachel Cruze?

Yes, I know, but can you believe that?

• 22:34George Kamel?

  And you still prefer?

• 22:35Rachel Cruze?

I know. And I told him, I said, this is my toxic trait, but when I get coffees to go, it will still come out of this Keurig. Because I.

• 22:40George Kamel?

Is it too strong for you from the Jura?

• 22:43Rachel Cruze?

Um, I don't know, but the bean.

• 22:45George Kamel?

  Too rich?

• 22:45Rachel Cruze?

That's what's crazy. The, the machine, you can put your beans down.

• 22:49George Kamel?

  Oh, like the strength?

• 22:50Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 22:50George Kamel?

Okay. Put your beans down. You can adjust the strength.

• 22:54Rachel Cruze?

It's got a picture of beans and I'm like, go down bean, go down.

• 22:57George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 22:58Rachel Cruze?

Uh, so maybe that's what it is.

• 23:00George Kamel?

You just like a weak cup of coffee and that's okay.

• 23:03Rachel Cruze?

I, I think I'm a medium girl. I'm not like a, like I'm drinking some hotel coffee and you're like, oh, that's water. Brown water. We don't want that. But I'm definitely not like my parents. Theirs is like motor oil.

• 23:18George Kamel?

  They want sludge, yeah.

• 23:19Rachel Cruze?

It is so gross. So I'm definitely not that. So I think I'm medium to light.

• 23:25George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 23:25Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 23:26George Kamel?

  Well.

• 23:27Rachel Cruze?

So anyways, all I'm saying, coffee, I'm saying that that's the worst habit.

• 23:31George Kamel?

Yeah, I think coffee wins regardless of your terrible taste in.

• 23:34Rachel Cruze?

I, I thought, when am I going to confess this to George?

• 23:37George Kamel?

I will say, as much as I love coffee, I am anti seven dollar lattes. Because I found what you're mostly asking for is milk. You're a grown adult saying, hey, can I have some hot milk and maybe you can put a little bit of coffee in there? I don't want to taste it. Put a bunch of flavoring in there. So I don't really taste the coffee.

• 23:54Rachel Cruze?

  And a lot of sugar.

• 23:55George Kamel?

Tons of sugar. Now, if it's a high-quality coffee shop, it's a, it's less sugar, it's higher-quality ingredients. But I'm still going, just get a coffee. Like, if you want to taste coffee, taste coffee. And if you want a sugar, just go-

• 24:08Rachel Cruze?

  Drink sugar.

• 24:09George Kamel?

  Drink a juice.

• 24:10Rachel Cruze?

  Go drink a juice.

• 24:11George Kamel?

  Go drink a juice.

• 24:12Rachel Cruze?

Go drink a juice. But regardless of where you're buying your coffee, George, if you're out and about, you should really be opening your wallet and seeing the Beware debit card from Fairwinds.

• 24:22George Kamel?

Absolutely. That'll make you make better financial decisions.

• 24:24Rachel Cruze?

Uh huh. Because if you're banking with Fairwinds Credit Union, you guys, they give you the Beware debit card. It's blue, it's beautiful, love it. And what's so amazing, too, is their smart checking and savings bundle is amazing. So their checking account that you sign up for, uh, it's fee-free, so you're not paying fees, you get the debit card, and then you get the savings account, the high-yield savings account with it. And so, so many Ramsey listeners have shifted to Fairwinds Credit Union because they do, they are for you and your money goals, and to have a banking system behind you in that is massive.

• 24:56George Kamel?

Yeah, and here's what I love. You, for the first time in my life, my high-yield savings account can directly transfer to checking.

• 25:03Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 25:03George Kamel?

So if there's an emergency, I don't have to wait a day or try to wire it. It can just whoop, right into checking, and then use my debit card to cover it.

• 25:10Rachel Cruze?

  It's so nice.

• 25:10George Kamel?

So I love that. Really cool features and a slick app. You can sign up in minutes. Just go to fairwins.org/Ramsey, get the smart bundle today.

• 25:20Rachel Cruze?

All right, next one. Overbuying groceries, AKA no plan, no meal prep, you're just overbuying, or browsing the dollar aisle just for fun.

• 25:32George Kamel?

Ooh. I guess, is browsing the dollar aisle, is this like a daily endeavor for this person? Or is this a once-in-a-while treat?

• 25:40Rachel Cruze?

No, I'd say if you go into the store, that's where you're probably heading.

• 25:42George Kamel?

Hmm. I've done both. The worst habit, I think, is overbuying groceries with no plan. That's a harder habit to create than stopping the dollar aisle shopping, in, for me.

• 25:55Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 25:56George Kamel?

Now, the whole, like, I'm gonna buy things because they're on sale, that is its own person that could be-

• 26:01Rachel Cruze?

I know, that's what I'm thinking. And what's crazy is the dollar aisle isn't always just a dollar. Like, at Target, it's like three to five dollars and stuff.

• 26:06George Kamel?

I was actually at Dollar Tree just a few weeks ago.

• 26:10Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 26:10George Kamel?

And let me tell you, very few things are a dollar at Dollar Tree, so don't fall for it.

• 26:15Rachel Cruze?

Inflation's really gotten to us. Um-

• 26:21Rachel Cruze?

Golly, I could go either way on this one for some reason. I don't know why groceries make me feel safe. I like having a lot of groceries. If I overbuy, I don't know why I can justify it.

• 26:29George Kamel?

  It makes you feel safe?

• 26:30Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, when you open your fridge and it's just full.

• 26:32George Kamel?

  Oh.

• 26:33Rachel Cruze?

It just feels so, or your pantry is just like...

• 26:35George Kamel?

Well, can I tell you what I've realized? And I knew this in my heart, but I was shopping the aisles and not the perimeter. So this is a life hack. If you are shopping the aisles, you are mostly buying processed foods and junk food.

• 26:47Rachel Cruze?

George, yes. Did you just learn this?

• 26:49George Kamel?

Well, I knew it in my head, but I realized I was going straight for the aisles, straight for the snacks. I'm a snack guy.

• 26:54Rachel Cruze?

I'm shocked though, because you're a very, you eat very healthy.

• 26:57George Kamel?

Well, thank you for saying that.

• 26:58Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 26:58George Kamel?

And the blood work shows that on my physical, but I just, I'm not, I don't run straight to the, you know, meats and the veggies or the fruits.

• 27:08Rachel Cruze?

  The produce.

• 27:09George Kamel?

  Yeah, exactly.

• 27:10Rachel Cruze?

You're like, give me a banana.

• 27:11George Kamel?

It's not my first stop. It's sort of a last, like, I should probably get a banana.

• 27:14Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's fair, that's fair.

• 27:17George Kamel?

But the good news is my daughter loves to shop for herself now, so she has a little card and she'll, you know, she's that Trader Joe's just throwing carrots and celery and broccoli. I'm like, who in this family's gonna eat that? Put that back.

• 27:28Rachel Cruze?

  Put that back.

• 27:29George Kamel?

But she just loves it. So it forced me to actually shop the perimeter more because it's more fun for her.

• 27:33Rachel Cruze?

  Yes. Look at you.

• 27:34George Kamel?

She can't reach stuff on the aisles, you know?

• 27:36Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, especially Trader Joe's because you gotta go up over sometimes.

• 27:38George Kamel?

  Exactly.

• 27:38Rachel Cruze?

  It'd be tough.

• 27:39George Kamel?

So, um, that's still tough. I think if you back out and go, hey, the dollar aisle person is the person who's just buying things on sale because they're a good deal, that is a pretty terrible money habit.

• 27:51Rachel Cruze?

I know. I make up dollar.

• 27:54George Kamel?

Wow. I'll go with you on this one for the sake of the bracket.

• 27:57Rachel Cruze?

  You're amazing.

• 27:58George Kamel?

But I do think the dollar person is more cost conscious. They might be the person couponing their way into, you know, paying $3 total for their groceries, but it's stuff they didn't really need.

• 28:08Rachel Cruze?

That's it though. I think their mindset in that is like, I'm getting crap I don't need, where it feels like, at least at the grocery store, you're buying food to like, that's a survival technique, you know?

• 28:18George Kamel?

  Okay, fair.

• 28:20Rachel Cruze?

So, all right, next. Spray tans twice a month, $50 a spray tan, or hair highlight appointment every eight weeks, $300 plus tip.

• 28:31George Kamel?

Whoa. Tell me this, do you tip when you get a spray tan? Is that a thing?

• 28:36Rachel Cruze?

I don't get, um, you know, I don't really get spray tans.

• 28:38George Kamel?

Does anyone know if you're supposed to tip? You are? Cause it's a service provided.

• 28:43Rachel Cruze?

  If they're individually doing it.

• 28:45George Kamel?

If it's a person doing it.

• 28:46Rachel Cruze?

I know, I've gotten a, um, like a self tanner. That's amazing. The self tanners have come a long way, George.

• 28:51George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 28:53Rachel Cruze?

Since 2008 with Jorgens, you know?

• 28:56George Kamel?

It's like, is it like a lotion now essentially?

• 28:58Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, all different kinds. Mine is a foam. And you have like a mint and it actually is amazing. Like it, and it was not, it's not orange, it's not, I don't know. I haven't used it yet this year, so don't, don't judge.

• 29:08George Kamel?

  I was gonna say.

• 29:09Rachel Cruze?

Don't judge the fairness, but, um.

• 29:13George Kamel?

  Which one is worse?

• 29:14Rachel Cruze?

Hair highlight, I don't know, the, the highlights, yeah.

• 29:16George Kamel?

I imagine spray tans are worse for you than hair highlights. I don't know, from a chemical standpoint.

• 29:22Rachel Cruze?

Maybe unless you're doing your roots. You're all right there.

• 29:24George Kamel?

Does that get into your skull and into your brain?

• 29:26Rachel Cruze?

  Possibly.

• 29:27George Kamel?

Versus into the skin, which is a pretty porous, I mean, that, that's tough.

• 29:34George Kamel?

Here's my question. Can I ask you this from, from a woman's perspective?

• 29:37Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 29:38George Kamel?

Why are we doing the constant hair highlights?

• 29:40Rachel Cruze?

Because George, you get grays, you see that?

• 29:42George Kamel?

Is it for the grays though? Like young women are doing this.

• 29:45Rachel Cruze?

For me, yeah, I get my roots done.

• 29:47George Kamel?

But for those that are just getting highlights to get highlights.

• 29:49Rachel Cruze?

Oh, oh, oh, cause they want to lighten their hair. They don't like the color of their natural hair or they want, I don't know.

• 29:54George Kamel?

Either way, I would say both of these people need to be happy with what God has given them.

• 29:59Rachel Cruze?

  Boo.

• 30:01George Kamel?

  Listen.

• 30:01Rachel Cruze?

  Boo.

• 30:02George Kamel?

I'm pale and I'm not complaining about it. You don't see me getting spray tans and hair highlights. I try to make do with what God gave me.

• 30:09Rachel Cruze?

No, George, you just buy weird technology crap for your car.

• 30:14George Kamel?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Aggressive language here.

• 30:18Rachel Cruze?

  That was aggressive, I'm sorry.

• 30:20George Kamel?

I will say, the, the hair appointments blow me away.

• 30:23Rachel Cruze?

It is so expensive, I know.

• 30:25George Kamel?

  More than the spray tans.

• 30:27Rachel Cruze?

  Ah.

• 30:29Rachel Cruze?

  You pick. I don't know.

• 30:31George Kamel?

Eight week, I mean, that's either way you're spending a lot of, do people get spray tans consistently all year long? Is that a thing?

• 30:36Rachel Cruze?

  I think some girls do.

• 30:38George Kamel?

  Twice a month?

• 30:41George Kamel?

  Okay, some, some, yeah.

• 30:45Rachel Cruze?

I want to just say spray tans, I don't do it. So I feel better about it. It feels better just to be like, that's a bad habit.

• 30:53George Kamel?

$50 twice, that's a hundred dollars a month versus, so that's essentially $200 over two months or 300.

• 31:00Rachel Cruze?

Can you go without and be fine? Yes. Hair highlighting, that's tough.

• 31:04George Kamel?

  You gotta keep up.

• 31:05Rachel Cruze?

You gotta grow it out. And even if it's not gray, your natural color comes back.

• 31:09George Kamel?

You're right. I'm going hair highlights.

• 31:10Rachel Cruze?

  That's a hard season.

• 31:11George Kamel?

Hair highlights, you're a recurring customer. Spray tans, you'd be like, I'm not doing it for the summer. Hair highlights, you gotta keep it up.

• 31:18Rachel Cruze?

I know, y'all. Okay, it makes me sad.

• 31:20George Kamel?

With really any hair dye, anything like that, eventually you're gonna be like, well, this looks terrible. I either gotta...

• 31:25Rachel Cruze?

Would you ever dye your hair as a dude? Or when grays come in, are you gonna just own it?

• 31:29George Kamel?

No, I think gray is a great look. Silver fox look?

• 31:32Rachel Cruze?

Yeah. That's Winston, a little salt and pepper on the sides.

• 31:35George Kamel?

Yeah, I'd love to go full Steve Carell or, you know, Jeff Goldblum.

• 31:38Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, yeah.

• 31:40George Kamel?

I think for the guys, it's easier. For the women, it's harder. There's more like societal pressure.

• 31:44Rachel Cruze?

Some women can freaking pull off the gray hair though, and it's beautiful. And you're like, you look so classy and beautiful. It just won't be me for a while.

• 31:51George Kamel?

  You'll get there.

• 31:52Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 31:52George Kamel?

All right, last bracket battle for our first round here. Buying lottery tickets at every gas station stop, which people do this, according to government data, which the government's tracking this, guys, be careful. In 2023, Americans spent $320 on average on lottery tickets.

• 32:08Rachel Cruze?

  A month or a year?

• 32:09George Kamel?

That's per year, I assume. A month would be wild. I'm sure people do that.

• 32:13Rachel Cruze?

  I don't know.

• 32:13George Kamel?

  But I think per year.

• 32:15Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 32:15George Kamel?

  That's about 30, you know, talking 20, 30 bucks a month.

• 32:18Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, because you get the scratch offs for like a buck or whatever.

• 32:20George Kamel?

Or, you know, the Powerball, it's at 1.7 billion, someone's gotta win it. Oof, or $4.99 on Fortnite skins or other childish in-app purchases.

• 32:30Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, we're good.

• 32:31George Kamel?

Not my words, them fighting words, but yes.

• 32:35Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, I'm going Fortnite.

• 32:37George Kamel?

What is a worst money habit?

• 32:38Rachel Cruze?

Yes, video games. Versus like buying a Powerball ticket because you might actually win a billion dollars.

• 32:44George Kamel?

We're gonna be split on this. I'm gonna support the gamers out there and go, listen, a lot of guys.

• 32:49Rachel Cruze?

  You're a grown man.

• 32:51George Kamel?

It's not about, it's not about do I agree with it or would I do it? It's what is the worst financial habit? Remember that. Here's the thing, a lot of guys here, they're doing well for themselves, they're debt free. What they like to do in their spare time? They play video games. That's fine. You go on Marco Polo and talk to your ladies all night or read weird books. You know what I mean? That's not a helpful thing.

• 33:13Rachel Cruze?

I don't read weird books. There just may have murders and kidnappings, but it's fine.

• 33:18George Kamel?

That's normal compared to the guys connecting over some Fortnite? So therefore I go, if you're doing it with extra fun money and you want to purchase some in-app whatever, fine. Gambling on any level, I, I think is just a worse habit because what you're saying is, well, this is my only hope for a lot of people playing the lottery. That's it.

• 33:39Rachel Cruze?

  You know what?

• 33:39George Kamel?

And it preys on low income neighborhoods.

• 33:41Rachel Cruze?

  I got you.

• 33:42George Kamel?

Do you not care about the low income neighborhoods, Rachel?

• 33:44Rachel Cruze?

Oh my gosh. I know, well, your son-in-law helps and works at a nonprofit.

• 33:49George Kamel?

Here's my thing, if you can buy Fortnite skins, you're doing pretty good in life.

• 33:53Rachel Cruze?

Okay, all right, George, you did, that was a very, uh, well.

• 33:56George Kamel?

  You're welcome gamers.

• 33:58Rachel Cruze?

That is, that was good. Okay, that's good. Okay, I'll do it. I'll do it. Lottery.

• 34:02George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 34:03Rachel Cruze?

  That's fair.

• 34:04George Kamel?

And here's an idea, what if you ditched all the lottery tickets and instead you put that money to good use? And got a Delete Me plan to protect you online?

• 34:12Rachel Cruze?

  Yes, oh my gosh.

• 34:14George Kamel?

Stay protected while you're online, while you're making all those in-app purchases. Your info is out there. And these creepy crawlers out there, these data broker websites, they are packaging it and they're selling it to spammers and scammers, which leads to fraud and scam and spam.

• 34:28Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, it's unbelievable. I remember when I first signed up with Delete Me, that you, you put in all your information, right? And then they start feeding you your own information, like was this a past address? Like you didn't give them? And you're like, yes, it was. That's the first condo Winston and I lived in when we got married. I was like, that is so weird. How does the internet know this? So you start clicking and they're like, is, are you related to this person? And you're like, yeah, that's Winston's aunt. And you're like, that's weird. Like, how does the internet know all this stuff? So like, that's the information that they're able to get to and get it off these sites, you guys. So it is real, it's powerful, and it's, their team is doing it. Like, they are looking for your information to remove it. And again, you, yeah, when you are harder to find, you're harder to be falling for a scam, you know?

• 35:10George Kamel?

Yes. And it makes a great gift. I got this for my parents, because as they get older, I just get more concerned about, you know, them falling for one of these scams and having fraud occur. And so, it's a great thing to get for your whole family. They have family plans, and you can get 20% off any of their annual plans when you go to joindelete.me.com/smartmoney, or you can always use the link in the description.

• 35:32Rachel Cruze?

All right, round two, George. I'm gonna, I'm gonna read these out.

• 35:36George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 35:36Rachel Cruze?

And we'll go quick. What do you think?

• 35:37George Kamel?

Yes. This should be easier now.

• 35:39Rachel Cruze?

  Botox or sports betting?

• 35:41George Kamel?

I think sports betting is a much bigger problem worldwide. I have not seen the numbers on people going broke because of Botox.

• 35:49Rachel Cruze?

It's true. Car lease versus asking family for financial help?

• 35:58George Kamel?

  I think car lease.

• 35:59Rachel Cruze?

  Overall, yeah.

• 36:00George Kamel?

Because you think you're making a smart decision.

• 36:01Rachel Cruze?

Yes, and the family one, the, the hard one for that is like relationally, you don't want to lose that. Like, like, there could be some conflict in that, and you could lose the relationships. Like, that's a really big deal.

• 36:12George Kamel?

Well, and it's as much on the people giving the money as it is on the person asking for it.

• 36:16Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, it's like two parties involved, car lease.

• 36:18George Kamel?

That's one, it's fully in your control.

• 36:20Rachel Cruze?

Yep, okay, we'll go car lease. All right, getting fancy coffees, or browsing the dollar aisle just for fun? I'm gonna say coffee.

• 36:32George Kamel?

I think, yeah, there's just not a lot of dollar aisles out there. I'd be shopping them if they existed. I'd have a great time. We're going coffee, okay?

• 36:39Rachel Cruze?

Hair highlight appointments every eight weeks, or buying lottery tickets?

• 36:45George Kamel?

  Oh, those got matched up.

• 36:47Rachel Cruze?

  Mm-hmm.

• 36:49Rachel Cruze?

  I'm on lottery tickets.

• 36:50George Kamel?

I'm going gambling. I just don't think highlights are the problem in 2026.

• 36:54Rachel Cruze?

George, I love you more and more.

• 36:55George Kamel?

We're not even doing balayage anymore. Is it in? I think it's out.

• 37:00Rachel Cruze?

  Balayage.

• 37:01George Kamel?

  I'm saying it.

• 37:02Rachel Cruze?

  All right.

• 37:03George Kamel?

  All right.

• 37:03Rachel Cruze?

  Sports betting or Carlys?

• 37:05George Kamel?

Oh, that's what we're down to?

• 37:08Rachel Cruze?

Oh, man. It is a worse habit.

• 37:12George Kamel?

Okay, I'll say this. In this year, this year, I think sports betting is becoming an epidemic. But as far as dollars are involved, leases are one of those things where you are stuck.

• 37:23Rachel Cruze?

  I know.

• 37:23George Kamel?

And it's really hard to get out and there's a lot of zeros on the end.

• 37:26Rachel Cruze?

Because I do think while there can be like, obviously, a lot of addiction and stuff with sports betting and it's not good, I do think like the bros will just do like, oh yeah, put 20 bucks on this. Like, I think it can be more flippant. Carlys, you're in a, you're in a contract.

• 37:37George Kamel?

And once you're in, you tend to like, go, well, just let go and get another Carlys.

• 37:41Rachel Cruze?

  I know.

• 37:41George Kamel?

And so it becomes a habit.

• 37:43Rachel Cruze?

Carlys. Oh, my gosh, we hate Carlys.

• 37:45George Kamel?

Okay, what are we down to?

• 37:46Rachel Cruze?

Uh, buying a coffee or playing the lottery.

• 37:49George Kamel?

  Lottery. Lottery's, I mean, that's, that's top tier.

• 37:53Rachel Cruze?

All right, lottery or Carlys? What's the winner?

• 37:57George Kamel?

What is the worst money habit? Oh, my gosh. Here, here's what I will say. These are different categories of people. People who tend to play the lottery are lower income. People who tend to get car leases are higher income, but they are still broke.

• 38:10Rachel Cruze?

  True.

• 38:11George Kamel?

So that's the hard part, is you've really got two different audiences for these products. I don't think people who have car leases are also getting scratch tickets.

• 38:21Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 38:22George Kamel?

But as far as overall, if you looked at America, I would say car leases, because you're trying to live a life you really can't afford.

• 38:33Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 38:33George Kamel?

  Makes it somehow.

• 38:35Rachel Cruze?

And financially, all the way around, is not, like, I'm like, it's, it's cheaper to get a car loan. It's like better in your, which is crazy to say, but you'd rather get a car loan than leasing.

• 38:45George Kamel?

When you think you're smarter, because like, what's a lower payment? But I'm like, yeah, but you're just renting a car expensively while prepaying all the depreciation.

• 38:54Rachel Cruze?

I know, but then there are people that are wealthy and they're like, I just like a car every two years. It's my thing. So I'm gonna just like lease it.

• 38:59George Kamel?

They just stomach it and go, whatever.

• 39:00Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, and they're fine with it.

• 39:01George Kamel?

I just don't want to deal with the maintenance or insurance, whatever.

• 39:03Rachel Cruze?

But I think, is that, do you feel like that's less people and it's more people that can't afford a nice car and they gotta lease it? Cause the lease payment sometimes is even less than if you, like if it was like Mercedes and Mercedes.

• 39:13George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 39:14Rachel Cruze?

You actually have a less payment with a lease usually than a car loan.

• 39:17George Kamel?

That's what I'm saying, cause you're not owning it. There's no equity here. You're just renting it.

• 39:22Rachel Cruze?

  That's right. Uh, so it's a real flat. Like it's like a...

• 39:25George Kamel?

Yeah. Well, I've just rarely met someone with a lease, but otherwise is perfect with no debt and doing everything great. So...

• 39:31Rachel Cruze?

  I'm going lease.

• 39:32George Kamel?

For the sake of this episode, I'm going lease.

• 39:34Rachel Cruze?

Me too, George. Oh my gosh, the car lease.

• 39:39Rachel Cruze?

The winner of the worst financial habit.

• 39:43George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 39:43Rachel Cruze?

  Golly.

• 39:44George Kamel?

What a journey you took us on.

• 39:46Rachel Cruze?

What a game. What a tournament we just played, George. I'm tired.

• 39:50George Kamel?

Why don't they do sports but for financial people?

• 39:51Rachel Cruze?

I know. This would've been so fun. This would've been so fun.

• 39:54George Kamel?

I'd be yelling at my TV right now. You know, I put the jersey on.

• 39:58Rachel Cruze?

Be all in the game. Be all in the game. Okay, so if you had one good financial habit that would win your bracket, what would you say? What's the best habit for someone to be in?

• 40:10George Kamel?

The best habit overall is paying attention to your money and the only way I know how to do that is using a monthly budget.

• 40:17Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 40:17George Kamel?

Where you list all of your expenses, you're tracking your transactions. That is when you're in the most control of your money instead of feeling like life happens to you and you're out of control.

• 40:26Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 40:27George Kamel?

  How about you?

• 40:28Rachel Cruze?

Um, I would say, I would, yeah, I would agree. Cause I use EveryDollar, our budgeting app, and I look at it every day. It's like a financial habit I'm in. I love it. I was actually doing...

• 40:37George Kamel?

  That's a good financial habit.

• 40:38Rachel Cruze?

I was actually doing my budget up there in our, uh, like our area where all of our desks are. And yeah, Haley walked by. She was like, you doing your EveryDollar budget?

• 40:46George Kamel?

  You go, girl.

• 40:46Rachel Cruze?

I was like, I am actually. I am for next time.

• 40:48George Kamel?

  Tracking those transactions?

• 40:49Rachel Cruze?

I know. Um, I'd say that, but paired with the habit of living on less than you make. I think that's huge. When you can have margin at any capacity.

• 41:01Rachel Cruze?

  I think that's like a massive habit.

• 41:02George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 41:03Rachel Cruze?

  To learn to.

• 41:03George Kamel?

  And the good news is.

• 41:03Rachel Cruze?

If you can't, if you can't afford it, you know, if you can't buy it in full, you can't afford it.

• 41:07George Kamel?

Well, people think I need to make a certain income to have that margin. And the truth is, people who have margin do it at any level of income.

• 41:14Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, yeah.

• 41:14George Kamel?

And they scale their life down if they don't make as much. And as you make more, you don't just spend all of it either. And so that's lifestyle creep. That's what you want to stay away from. And a lot of these habits point to lifestyle creep. It's the.

• 41:24Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 41:25George Kamel?

I deserve it, or I, I work so hard, I just want to get the DoorDash because I had a tough week.

• 41:31Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 41:31George Kamel?

And it's those things where you go, this is why you don't have any money left over.

• 41:34Rachel Cruze?

  Mm hmm. It's true.

• 41:35George Kamel?

So the overall auditing your budget is really important, too. Of just going, where can I do better? Because once you do the budget, what it will show you is, oh, my gosh, I had no clue I was spending that much on XYZ. And so I think a little bit of conviction is good. A little bit of that guilt of, ah. Now, I don't want shame. I don't need baggage here. It's just a reality check.

• 41:54Rachel Cruze?

It's a reality check because you're living in reality when you're looking at your numbers versus just like some fantasy world.

• 41:59George Kamel?

  Feelings and vibes.

• 41:59Rachel Cruze?

Like, I'm just like living out here. Yep.

• 42:01George Kamel?

All right, so go check out EveryDollar if you want that tool we mentioned to get control of your money. It is the best one out there. We'll put the link in the description or just go to everydollar.com.

• 42:11Rachel Cruze?

All right, before we spill the tea on our guilty as charged segments, uh, what are we drinking, George?

• 42:15George Kamel?

This is a Pisco Sour and you have a mocktail addition.

• 42:18Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 42:19George Kamel?

Lord only knows what's in that, but.

• 42:23Rachel Cruze?

You know, the top is, um.

• 42:24George Kamel?

  This is hidden.

• 42:25Rachel Cruze?

It is actually good, though. I think mine has sparkling water in it.

• 42:29George Kamel?

  Okay.

• 42:29Rachel Cruze?

Versus, I don't know, well, what's in it? Tell, tell us.

• 42:31George Kamel?

Pisco, which is, uh, some type of liqueur.

• 42:34Rachel Cruze?

  Hmm.

• 42:35George Kamel?

I don't know what is in it that makes it Pisco, but it's got a nice, uh, tart, citrusy sweetness to it.

• 42:43Rachel Cruze?

Did you ever see the Emperor's New Groove?

• 42:45George Kamel?

It's been a long time, probably when I was six.

• 42:48Rachel Cruze?

  Cusco is like.

• 42:50George Kamel?

  Cusco.

• 42:51Rachel Cruze?

But Pisco, Cusco, I don't know.

• 42:52George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 42:53Rachel Cruze?

  Just like, you know.

• 42:53George Kamel?

And I get, I'll get roasted. I don't know if it's pronounced Pisco. Maybe it's Pisco.

• 42:57Rachel Cruze?

  Oh.

• 42:57George Kamel?

  Versus Pisco.

• 42:58Rachel Cruze?

  Hmm.

• 42:59George Kamel?

I was trying to, okay, our audio engineer has information for me.

• 43:03Speaker 02

Pisco is a type of brandy from Peru and Chile.

• 43:06Rachel Cruze?

  Oh.

• 43:07Speaker 02

  It's still a fermented grape.

• 43:08Rachel Cruze?

  Ooh, very South American review.

• 43:11George Kamel?

  From Peru and Chile.

• 43:12Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, and Chile.

• 43:17George Kamel?

  What can I say?

• 43:18Rachel Cruze?

  So cultured.

• 43:19George Kamel?

Okay, so it's got Pisco, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg white. So very similar to what you'd find in like a whiskey sour.

• 43:27Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 43:27George Kamel?

But you're trading the whiskey for the Pisco. I really love it. It's one of my favorites. It's got a nice, that sour tartness from the lime juice, the egg white adds kind of that nice foam.

• 43:37Rachel Cruze?

Cause you usually don't like an egg, right?

• 43:38George Kamel?

I like egg white in a sour. In a sour, an egg white really hits. And the total cost is $3.60. And this is one I would not be on my radar. Like, not to say I ordered at a restaurant, but if you gave it to me, I'm very happy.

• 43:51Rachel Cruze?

  Wonderful.

• 43:52George Kamel?

So, get the recipe in the show notes, give it a try this weekend if you are of age. What is your rating on this drink?

• 43:57Rachel Cruze?

Well, to be a mocktail, I'll be honest, it tastes like a cocktail.

• 44:01George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 44:01Rachel Cruze?

  You know what I mean?

• 44:02George Kamel?

Even with the sharpness of the alcohol.

• 44:05Rachel Cruze?

I'm not sick. Will you do a comparison for me?

• 44:08George Kamel?

I feel like that was a trap.

• 44:15George Kamel?

  That is really nice.

• 44:16Rachel Cruze?

  Isn't that good?

• 44:17George Kamel?

Yeah, it's no authentico, but it hits.

• 44:21Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, for a mocktail, y'all, I'm going 9 out of 10.

• 44:25George Kamel?

  Mine is a 10 out of 10.

• 44:26Rachel Cruze?

Mine, the only thing I would, it's, it's fine, but the egg whites are a little bit chunky on top.

• 44:31George Kamel?

Yeah, and it's got kind of a film on yours that didn't occur with mine.

• 44:34Rachel Cruze?

  That's right.

• 44:35George Kamel?

That's what knocked yours down a peg.

• 44:36Rachel Cruze?

Yes, one notch. But it was like, it tasted like I'm having a cocktail there, which I like that.

• 44:40George Kamel?

Well, the, the presentation really matters too. And the team did a great job with this one.

• 44:44Rachel Cruze?

  Great job, y'all.

• 44:45George Kamel?

So check out the recipe in the show notes, give it a try this weekend if you're of age. Or, will we put the mocktail recipe in the show notes as well? I guess we will.

• 44:53Rachel Cruze?

  We will.

• 44:54George Kamel?

You can make your own, pick your own poison there.

• 44:56Rachel Cruze?

There you go. Love it. All right, now it's time for

• 44:59George Kamel?

  Guilty as charged.

• 45:01Rachel Cruze?

And this is where we ask each other a guilty as charged question every week, and if we're guilty, we take a sip. All right, George, is there anything we discussed today that you know you're guilty of, but refuse to quit?

• 45:12George Kamel?

  I just can't quit.

• 45:13Rachel Cruze?

  Oh my gosh.

• 45:14George Kamel?

I mean, I would, I'll, let's go into the hair category, cause I kind of roasted the, uh, the highlight people.

• 45:19Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, but you're a very specific hair cut.

• 45:21George Kamel?

But if you broke down the math, I probably spend as much or more than a woman who's getting highlights every eight weeks. And I broke down the math for the sake of this.

• 45:31Rachel Cruze?

  Oh.

• 45:32George Kamel?

I can do math in my head. I get my haircut every two weeks.

• 45:34Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 45:35George Kamel?

So that's what, about 25 haircuts a year.

• 45:37Rachel Cruze?

  Okay.

• 45:38George Kamel?

  And they're about after tip.

• 45:42George Kamel?

  $58 a pop.

• 45:44Rachel Cruze?

  Oh, man.

• 45:44George Kamel?

So that adds up. You're talking, you know, 100, almost 120 bucks a month.

• 45:49Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, you're getting up there, George.

• 45:50George Kamel?

Whitney, and she has every right to go, hey, you don't get to say a word about what I spend on my hair.

• 45:56Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, because she does hers probably every eight weeks, like, yeah.

• 45:59George Kamel?

Even less than that, maybe every three months.

• 46:00Rachel Cruze?

  Yep.

• 46:01George Kamel?

And she doesn't do the, like, fancy, she's usually just getting a haircut.

• 46:04Rachel Cruze?

  Yeah.

• 46:05George Kamel?

  Which I love.

• 46:06Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 46:06George Kamel?

  Go, Whitney.

• 46:08Rachel Cruze?

  Sweet.

• 46:09George Kamel?

How about you? Any of these that you're guilty of?

• 46:11Rachel Cruze?

  I mean, yeah.

• 46:12George Kamel?

That you are not quitting anytime soon?

• 46:13Rachel Cruze?

I'm not gonna quit anytime soon.

• 46:18George Kamel?

  Almost all of them.

• 46:18Rachel Cruze?

I mean, I mean, there's a lot of them. I'm not gonna lie, not gonna lie. But you know the one you said?

• 46:24George Kamel?

  The vacations?

• 46:25Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 46:26George Kamel?

  Yes.

• 46:27Rachel Cruze?

I am notorious of planning a vacation on the vacation. I need a vacation on the books. I need a trip. Vacation sounds big.

• 46:34George Kamel?

  Yeah.

• 46:34Rachel Cruze?

  Just need a trip.

• 46:35George Kamel?

You need something to look forward to that is you leaving the house.

• 46:38Rachel Cruze?

  Going to.

• 46:39George Kamel?

  And ditching your family.

• 46:40Rachel Cruze?

Overnight. No, my family can come.

• 46:42George Kamel?

  Oh, okay, good.

• 46:43Rachel Cruze?

  My gosh.

• 46:44George Kamel?

  Unless it's Backstreet Boys.

• 46:46Rachel Cruze?

  In Vegas.

• 46:47George Kamel?

That just happened. For the second time, without your family. Just wanna make that clear.

• 46:52Rachel Cruze?

And now Winston, he's doing a guys' trip for his 40th this month.

• 46:56George Kamel?

Where's he going? I didn't get the invite.

• 46:58Rachel Cruze?

Um, I know, I'm so sorry, George.

• 47:00George Kamel?

It's fine. I know Winston actually has friends that he likes.

• 47:02Rachel Cruze?

  George, he likes you.

• 47:04George Kamel?

He's got his crew, though. Are they doing, like, hunting or something manly? What are they?

• 47:08Rachel Cruze?

  Uh, Montana.

• 47:09George Kamel?

  I knew it.

• 47:10Rachel Cruze?

Uh, and they, and are you ready for this? Just, this is so Winston. He's like, I just wanna get a VRBO. Go to the local grocery store. We can get peanut butter and jellies and beer, and I just wanna sit and look at the mountains.

• 47:24George Kamel?

  Wow.

• 47:25Rachel Cruze?

And do at least, like, one thing a day, like, outdoorsy.

• 47:28George Kamel?

One activity, but otherwise just chilling, staring at God's creation.

• 47:31Rachel Cruze?

Super low maintenance, don't need anything, and I thought, wow.

• 47:35George Kamel?

Just like an extra in Yellowstone.

• 47:37Rachel Cruze?

Find you a man that just, yeah, doesn't, doesn't need a lot, you know? Only if his wife didn't color her hair, you know, we'd be the most low maintenance people out there.

• 47:44George Kamel?

He could go to Montana once a month. If it wasn't for your habits. That's great. What a fun trip.

• 47:50Rachel Cruze?

I know, he is very excited.

• 47:51George Kamel?

Your trips, I feel like, need to be a little more.

• 47:54Rachel Cruze?

  I need a hotel.

• 47:55George Kamel?

Yeah, and you want, you know, sand, sea.

• 47:58Rachel Cruze?

  Sea, sea somewhere.

• 47:59George Kamel?

I don't see you as a mountains person.

• 48:01Rachel Cruze?

  You know?

• 48:02George Kamel?

You could do, like, a lodgey cabin with a vibe.

• 48:05Rachel Cruze?

  And I enjoy skiing.

• 48:06George Kamel?

Yeah, you're a big skier family.

• 48:08Rachel Cruze?

I can get, I can, I can go there, but I prefer beach.

• 48:12George Kamel?

In Winston, not a beach guy as much.

• 48:15Rachel Cruze?

No, cold. He wants to be cold.

• 48:18George Kamel?

That's more manly. I think we can all agree on that. That's so great.

• 48:22Rachel Cruze?

Oh, man, George, I know how we got off on that, but that's a bad habit that I'm probably not gonna break. Let's just plan the trip.

• 48:26George Kamel?

Well, it's more like you're wasting time on the trip, planning the next trip.

• 48:30Rachel Cruze?

Yeah, or you're just so excited. No, but you're just so excited about life, you know?

• 48:36George Kamel?

You are kind of in a...

• 48:37Rachel Cruze?

Look what life can bring us.

• 48:38George Kamel?

In a peak dopamine rush on vacation.

• 48:40Rachel Cruze?

  I know. It's the best.

• 48:43George Kamel?

That's great. It's sort of like you're pre-ordering the next vacation.

• 48:47Rachel Cruze?

  Yes.

• 48:47George Kamel?

You got it on auto ship. You don't have to think about the next one.

• 48:50Rachel Cruze?

That's it. Just like a subscription. It's like a trip subscription, you know?

• 48:54George Kamel?

  That's so great.

• 48:55Rachel Cruze?

  Man.

• 48:57George Kamel?

Subscription vacation? Did you just come up with an idea?

• 48:59Rachel Cruze?

  What a great business.

• 49:01George Kamel?

Every three months, we'll send you on another trip, based on your personality and profile.

• 49:06Rachel Cruze?

We gotta find those car leasing people, you know? They'd pay for that.

• 49:09George Kamel?

Yeah, if you're spending 500 bucks a month, sign up for Rachel's vacation subscription.

• 49:13Rachel Cruze?

Oh, my gosh, yes. I love it.

• 49:15George Kamel?

I think you just described time shares, but for millennials.

• 49:18Rachel Cruze?

  It's like a time share.

• 49:20George Kamel?

  It's fine.

• 49:21Rachel Cruze?
