  Yeah, okay.

• 1:10Speaker 00

  I know. I guess I guess that's why you hired me. She's I there's gotta be something.

• 1:17Josh Horowitz?

  I'm sure.

• 1:18Speaker 00

But I can't think of one.

• 1:21Speaker 03

Prepare your ears, humans. Happy, sad, confused, begins now.

• 2:58Josh Horowitz?

Okay, let's talk Anna Faris for a second. Before we dive into the conversation, not much context needed, we all know who Anna Faris is, she's been a part of our lives for 25 plus years. And this was a fun conversation, she is, she's very unique, I say that with all the love, I adore her, she's so endearing, so singular, um, and Scary Movie was the movie, it was essentially not her first movie, but it was kind of her first movie, certainly her first major movie. And, um, she was in the first four of those films, and it made her into a comedy star, and she branched out and did all sorts of comedies, whether it was Smiley Face, Observing Report, House Bunny, et cetera. Diverged a little bit to drama here and there, bit parts in Lost in Translation, Brokeback

• 3:42Josh Horowitz?

Mountain, then her TV run in Mom, a huge hit for seven seasons, and now kind of dipping her toe back into film, and more than dipping her toe, this is gonna be a big film. This is, The Wayans back in the fold, making a scary movie, uh, with Regina and Anna, the whole gang is back together. So if you like the Scary Movie films, you're gonna enjoy this, it's out this Friday everywhere. And it's a great time for, by the way, for Scary Movie to come back with horror bigger than ever, I mean, look at what's happening at the box office with- Obsession and, and, and, and long legs and weapons. I mean, it's, it's back rooms. Yeah, it's, it's, it's good timing. So anyway, this was a really fun conversation. She's a former podcaster herself. She likes to talk. We like people who like to talk.

• 4:28Josh Horowitz?

And like I said, there's nobody quite like her. So we cover a lot in this conversation. So I know you're going to enjoy this. Without any further ado, enjoy me and the one and only Anna Faris, everybody. Anna, should we do this?

• 4:43Speaker 04

  Let's do this.

• 4:43Josh Horowitz?

The cameras are here, we're mic'd up.

• 4:45Speaker 04

  I know.

• 4:46Josh Horowitz?

  We're warmed up.

• 4:47Speaker 04

I feel like I've put on an old pair of jeans, back in my podcast.

• 4:52Josh Horowitz?

We were just reminiscing. I feel like this is the podcaster, really, of the.

• 4:56Speaker 04

Let me talk. I just want to talk.

• 5:01Josh Horowitz?

Congratulations on the movie. You were just saying, you used the word surreal. This whole thing must be out of body from the, from shooting it, from getting the call, from shooting it, doing the press.

• 5:11Speaker 04

Well, from 1999, when I was graduating from the University of Washington as an average fifth year student. I had a degree in English because I couldn't, you know, graduate with anything else, really. And I was going to go to London and I had a job lined up at an ad agency, like in the mailroom. I had pulled some strings and sort of.

• 5:38Josh Horowitz?

You got that coveted mailroom job.

• 5:40Speaker 04

Yeah, yeah, for a few months. I was going to live with my best friend and, and then I made an abrupt 180 decision to give LA a year. I would wait tables. I didn't have any debt. I figured, you know, I, I've got the Honda Accord and like.

• 6:02Josh Horowitz?

  What more do you need?

• 6:02Speaker 04

  Right, yeah.

• 6:04Josh Horowitz?

When, when you're that young, you can kind of.

• 6:05Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 6:06Josh Horowitz?

  Take a risk.

• 6:07Speaker 04

It did feel like, I, I never had stars in my eyes. I really didn't. I didn't think I was attractive enough to make it. I had been around enough, like cynical, brilliant Seattle theater actors.

• 6:21Josh Horowitz?

  Sure.

• 6:21Speaker 04

  Growing up that I.

• 6:25Speaker 04

I was aware of like shitty material, like getting rejected for bad material would be a part of my life.

• 6:34Josh Horowitz?

Right, desperate for like the sixth lead on a CW show, WB show.

• 6:38Speaker 04

Right, like how do you protect yourself from internalizing all of that? You know, I, I, I had, um, I, I wasn't naive fully in that way, but in every other way. And so when I made this decision, I managed to, I, you know, I didn't know anybody. But these young managers, I didn't know what a manager did, but agreed to represent me. Friends of friends of friends. And they asked me to send in three audition tapes. Two for pilots, I think there were two pilots, and then one for a movie called Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween. I had never done comedy before.

• 7:21Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 7:21Speaker 04

Um, I sent in my auditions off to my new managers. I was packing up my stuff, uh, to drive the Honda Accord down to LA from Seattle. And, uh, they asked if I would fly down to audition for Scary Movie. For the Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween. And then like within a, it was, it's intense, dizzying. Imagine like, if, imagine going to a foreign country and everyone telling you that you're incredibly tall. Or like, like my, my fit with comedy was confounding.

• 8:04Speaker 04

My fit with fame, my fit with like getting the role, it felt, I, I was out of place.

• 8:13Josh Horowitz?

  So.

• 8:14Speaker 04

  And terrified.

• 8:15Josh Horowitz?

Was there a point, and this is kind of a big picture question, but like a point in the journey of the last 25 plus years where you kind of went from like, internalizing, I'm a poser to like, oh, I actually like, I'm a re, I'm really good at comedy. Like I deserve to be here, this is.

• 8:30Speaker 04

  Yeah, yeah.

• 8:32Josh Horowitz?

You know what, was there a film or a moment that where that kind of clicked in, you think?

• 8:35Speaker 04

No, it was, it's been the slow roll of time.

• 8:39Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 8:40Speaker 04

You know, and the acceptance that, uh, that.

• 8:47Speaker 04

The gratification, really noticing my fanbase, I guess. You know, like really taking in, as I struggled with my idea of like, I'm not funny. I don't fundamentally feel funny. I'm not sure why they laughed at that last take.

• 9:05Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 9:08Speaker 04

And I've come around to feeling like, you know what? Maybe it's okay that I don't know what makes me funny. And if I keep on just doing this thing and tricking people, I can keep paying my mortgage.

• 9:22Josh Horowitz?

  And done some, hopefully.

• 9:25Speaker 04

No, but the, the, getting to act on set again with Keenan, with Marlon Wayans and Sean Wayans and Keenan. And relive and reframe that experience has meant the world. I went to my high school reunion, my 20th high school reunion, my 20 year, and I, it was like a B, it was like a B of a night, C plus.

• 9:55Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 9:58Speaker 04

  This has been emotional, emotional.

• 10:04Josh Horowitz?

Well, because it's also, it's been, I would imagine, again, over this last quarter century, of like, kind of like riding that wave, the first 10, 15 years of your career, you always had a kind of Scary Movie to come back to.

• 10:15Speaker 04

Kind of, but I never felt that, I never felt a guarantee in any of, in any moment.

• 10:22Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 10:24Speaker 04

When people would say, oh, you've, you've made it, or I, I was like, what, what does that mean? There's no, I don't see a finish line.

• 10:31Josh Horowitz?

  No.

• 10:32Speaker 04

And I do think that, I wasn't invited to do Scary Movie 5. The franchise got taken away from the Wayans Brothers after Scary Movie 2.

• 10:41Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 10:42Speaker 04

And I was under contract to do Scary Movie 3. And I went on and did 4. But and then it wasn't asked to do five, but the conversation was still percolating. Like every few years, my agent would call, there would be a studio executive shift or something.

• 11:01Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 11:02Speaker 04

And it was it was out there, the conversation a little bit. I always thought if I do a scary movie, it's gonna feel like shit because I'll be a cameo. And I'll make money, but it won't feel like it's enough.

• 11:19Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 11:20Speaker 04

You know, I I think Regina Hall and myself were always undervalued financially in in the franchise and.

• 11:32Josh Horowitz?

You're not even on the poster for the first film.

• 11:33Speaker 04

  I know.

• 11:34Josh Horowitz?

  That's the irony, looking back.

• 11:36Speaker 04

  I know.

• 11:37Josh Horowitz?

So you're arguably, I don't know if you were technically number one on the call sheet, you should have been.

• 11:40Speaker 04

  I was.

• 11:41Josh Horowitz?

So that's crazy. So you're number one on the call sheet, but you're not being paid the most, it sounds like.

• 11:45Speaker 04

Oh, no, no, not, no, I, I mean, as if I, and I wasn't, I had had nothing to back me up.

• 11:52Josh Horowitz?

Right. What leverage do you have as a twenty two year old, like with no experience virtually?

• 11:56Speaker 04

It was a heady and in and I can say this now, knowing more, a humbling uh start, you know, a and a boot camp. They were sending me off to like stunt training all the time and any, what an awesome, you know, an awesome but tough boot camp because the Wayans Brothers also don't give up laughter easily.

• 12:20Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 12:21Speaker 04

So not only am I cast in a comedy, I'm number one on the call sheet and I'm not funny.

• 12:29Josh Horowitz?

In your own head at least.

• 12:31Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 12:31Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 12:32Speaker 04

But even like on set, making the movie, I don't remember.

• 12:41Speaker 04

I remember feeling like, okay, I'm the straight character, which I do, I do serve that purpose. And constantly looking for Keenan's approval, being too afraid to ask if I was doing anything right.

• 12:58Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 12:59Speaker 04

I finally had the courage to ask my, the hairdresser, my, um, Linda, I was like, hey, do you think that that last take was good?

• 13:07Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 13:07Speaker 04

And she said, oh, my God, it was great. You didn't touch your hair once.

• 13:14Josh Horowitz?

  The criteria.

• 13:14Speaker 04

  Okay, okay.

• 13:17Speaker 04

  Regroup.

• 13:18Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 13:20Speaker 05

We'll be right back with more Happy Sad Confused.

• 14:29Josh Horowitz?

I mean, your, your relationship to like, yeah, because like a young actor, any young person, they're looking for validation. They're looking for it anywhere. Like, tell me I'm good. Tell me I did the right thing. And that's, that's a complex thing, especially someone in the arts. Um, especially a young woman, I would imagine. I mean, you've talked, you're talking about, you know, Keenan back then. You know, you've had good and bad experiences. Like, we don't need to dredge up kind of like the my super ex-girlfriend thing, but you talked about Ivan back in the day. Like, that's not great, to say the least. Like, what's your relationship with kind of like, I don't know? Serving a scene for yourself versus serving a scene for your director. Like, who are you trying to please now on a set?

• 15:06Speaker 04

I love how you have incorporated that question with the idea of, have I realized my place in comedy? Because I do feel confident enough, and I wish that I had earlier, to bring ingenuity to a scene, to an idea, and to have more confidence to try it. It is hard to try something and to fail

• 15:37Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 15:37Speaker 04

there in the moment. And you learn pretty quickly that it's like, do you take the gamble of trying this line that you thought about? And you want to try this improv line? Do you have, is it worth it? How am I going to gauge this? Because if it fails, it can really undermine your confidence for the next few minutes.

• 16:00Josh Horowitz?

Right. Well, in comedy, you kind of know immediately. It's like, as opposed to a drama where it's like, you know, it's kind of an eye to the beholder. It's like comedy, you either play it or it didn't. You feel that in the moment, probably.

• 16:09Speaker 04

I love that my approach, because I don't know how to do it any other way, is character and sincerity of character.

• 16:18Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 16:19Speaker 04

And so if I feel like I've got a handle on that, I'll, I love to, I love to expand on that idea. I am proud, I haven't talked too much about this. If you don't mind, a little humble brag.

• 16:37Josh Horowitz?

  Please.

• 16:38Speaker 04

More than a little humble brag.

• 16:38Josh Horowitz?

  Let's do it.

• 16:39Speaker 04

When Marlon called me in February of 2025, I hadn't talked to the Wayans Brothers in over 20 years.

• 16:46Josh Horowitz?

  Wow.

• 16:47Speaker 04

I know, and it had always been on my mind.

• 16:49Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 16:51Speaker 04

When he called and he said, we got our franchise back, and I was so thrilled, I still am. And I said, okay, what if, what if Cindy is kind of MAGA? Like, what if she quarantined really hard? And the reunion, when she first sees Brenda, it has to be like, you know? So I pitched, oh, Brenda.

• 17:22Speaker 04

I wish I could hug you, but I'm a Republican now, so I'm supposed to be racist.

• 17:29Speaker 04

And Lila loved it, and I'm proud of that because it made the trailer.

• 17:34Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 17:35Speaker 04

And it, and I loved it that he was receptive.

• 17:38Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 17:39Speaker 04

To me, you know, wanting to make Cindy a horrible person. But, you know, but.

• 17:47Josh Horowitz?

That's kind of a through line in your career. You've never been afraid to play kind of ugly characters, not physically, but just like kind of ugly people.

• 17:54Speaker 04

  Oh, thanks. Well, that's sort of my, I don't, I don't think I'm a leading lady kind of. I don't know if that's like a shoe that I fit.

• 18:06Josh Horowitz?

Well, you, to compliment you, what you're able to do is because not many people are able to do that because you also have this other side that you engender so much goodwill. You are so likeable and so you can be, do these kind of horrible, despicable things.

• 18:19Speaker 04

  I am eager to please.

• 18:21Josh Horowitz?

You contain dualities, multitudes. But like, my sense is you've always been down, like game for anything. I mean, you just look at the Scary Movies franchise, like the seeds you, the things you do, a lot of actors, actresses specifically probably would not say yes to the things you've done.

• 18:38Speaker 04

I know. And when you're first, when you get like broken in with scary movie.

• 18:46Josh Horowitz?

Right. What do you do now? You might as well just do anything. Who cares?

• 18:48Speaker 04

Josh, when I auditioned, I initially auditioned for Buffy, played by Shannon Elizabeth. And when I got the role of Cindy, they hadn't given me the script yet. So I'm on the plane reading the script, and there was definitely a feeling of like, you know, when you're reading on page 49, like, whatever Cindy, Bobby pulls down Cindy's jeans. Bam! An explosion of bats.

• 19:22Speaker 04

Cindy gets sprayed to the ceiling.

• 19:25Speaker 04

  It's scary.

• 19:26Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 19:27Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 19:28Josh Horowitz?

  Have you?

• 19:30Speaker 04

  But you...

• 19:30Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 19:31Speaker 04

  I'm proud that...

• 19:34Speaker 04

I'm proud that I have gumption.

• 19:36Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, you should be, yeah.

• 19:38Speaker 04

And I wanted... I wanted Keenan to be proud of that he chose me, you know, that he picked me.

• 19:46Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. Are there things that you have kind of drawn the line at that you've said like this is just a little too far?

• 19:51Speaker 04

  Not really.

• 19:55Speaker 04

  No.

• 19:55Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 19:56Speaker 04

  No.

• 19:56Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, okay.

• 19:58Speaker 04

  I know, I guess I... I guess that's why you hired me. She's... I... There's gotta be something.

• 20:05Josh Horowitz?

  I'm sure.

• 20:06Speaker 04

But I can't think of one. Because I don't know if I've asked, really like properly asked or expected to be fully nude.

• 20:15Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 20:16Speaker 04

So I don't know if I've had opportunities to refuse.

• 20:20Josh Horowitz?

Still, one day you'll say no.

• 20:22Speaker 04

Take what I can get us right. One day I'm gonna say no. Too far.

• 20:28Josh Horowitz?

Scary movie 12. Would you rather have like Neve Campbell's like straight on horror career? Or are you happy that you have kind of the flip side, the parody career of the horror star?

• 20:41Speaker 04

I think I... I have finally landed in a place where I feel so fortunate to have the exact career that I have.

• 20:51Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 20:51Speaker 04

I know that for a while being associated with a spoof movie felt tough. You know, I knew that something incredible had happened being cast immediately in a... in a movie. I knew that was a huge stroke of luck and... and... and opportunity. But then, it was like, but then what do I do? I would go on these, you know, meetings and auditions with studio executives. And frequently, a studio executive would say to me, "Oh, I didn't see that movie." But my kids said it was really funny.

• 21:31Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 21:31Speaker 04

Like, I... I... It was quickly... I was quickly aware that this was not...

• 21:39Speaker 04

A movie that was associated with any kind of respect.

• 21:43Josh Horowitz?

Right, it had currency in terms of box office and success, but maybe not the value you wanted it to have in an audition room.

• 21:52Speaker 04

Sure, yeah. And I think the misconception that it's easy work, or that it's niche.

• 22:04Speaker 04

That was hard, and I felt guilty about bemoaning anything that had happened to me. But it was there. I felt myself competitive with my peers, wondering why other actresses my age in my category were, you know, were succeeding.

• 22:26Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 22:26Speaker 04

  And...

• 22:28Josh Horowitz?

Lost in Translation must have been kind of like a big moment that for a thousand reasons, because that only comes a couple of years after.

• 22:34Speaker 04

It was. I, um, yes, and my journey, journey, I can't believe I'm saying it so much. I'm annoyed with myself.

• 22:43Josh Horowitz?

On podcasts, you're contractually obligated to talk about your journey as an actor.

• 22:47Speaker 04

  Thank you, thank you.

• 22:50Speaker 04

I was, I had two, I was a part of two movies that were critically acclaimed, Lost in Translation and Brokeback Mountain during those early years. I had small comedic roles, kind of in both of them, loud and splashy. And it was incredible to work with those directors, intimidating. When I was on set of Lost, I auditioned for Lost in Translation about six months before I got the role.

• 23:18Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 23:18Speaker 04

And so I didn't, I got the role, I think, last minute. They were, they were in Japan shooting, so...

• 23:28Josh Horowitz?

They were already shooting when you got...

• 23:29Speaker 04

They were already shooting. I think, I think the story goes, I think this is accurate, that Sofia offered the role to Naomi Watts.

• 23:39Josh Horowitz?

  Oh wow.

• 23:40Speaker 04

And she passed on it, so I got the role. And I remember being there and, and performing on, on my fir-, in my first moment, the way that I had the audition that I did in front of Sofia, which was loud, which was a lot of volume, and every, the every, the other actors were muted in her down here.

• 24:06Speaker 04

And I was like, I am ruining this. I'm too loud, like the, I felt very out of place. But I also didn't know how to mute her.

• 24:17Josh Horowitz?

Right, well, that's the nature of the character that you were playing, right?

• 24:20Speaker 04

I had to have a degree of confidence in that.

• 24:22Josh Horowitz?

  Yes.

• 24:23Speaker 04

Even though tonally, it was very hard for me to gauge because I had so little experience on a film set.

• 24:29Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 24:29Speaker 04

Very hard for me to gauge tone and appropriateness.

• 24:33Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 24:34Speaker 04

Of performance. Um, and I guess I still, I don't know if I could ever, you know, hold it in, bring it back, tone it down, make smaller faces.

• 24:49Josh Horowitz?

Did you, I know you've talked about this in the past and it's kind of been, you know, Sophia's talked about it, you've talked about it. But for decades, it's like, it was Cameron Diaz that everyone's ever assumed that you were playing Cameron Diaz. Did you ever have to like, I'm sure you've crossed paths with Cameron Diaz.

• 25:03Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 25:03Josh Horowitz?

Like, have you had that conversation?

• 25:05Speaker 04

Can I, um, can I tell you, I was always a little annoyed with that accusation.

• 25:11Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 25:12Speaker 04

Because I, it felt like it took a little something away from my, my flavor.

• 25:20Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 25:21Speaker 04

You know? And, and because I had auditioned for it and earned it as that performance, I always felt like, no, I'm not part of some grand weird sabotage.

• 25:33Josh Horowitz?

Right, it's not a vendetta, this is a performance.

• 25:35Speaker 04

  No, no.

• 25:36Josh Horowitz?

And she was never, to be clear, never in your mind, never discussed?

• 25:39Speaker 04

No, and I certainly, I like, I truly, LA was so new. I hadn't met any celebrities. Uh, I, I had an idea. When I first moved to LA from Seattle, I encountered the, a kind of person that I had never met before, which is what I call a self-describer.

• 26:03Josh Horowitz?

  Mm-hmm.

• 26:04Speaker 04

A person who's like, I am this and I am spiritual and I'm really creative and my aura is this. And like the, let me define myself for you, right here in front of you, you know, just so we sort this out.

• 26:19Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 26:20Speaker 04

Um, that was always really amusing, so I, I felt like I was tapping into that. The kind of person who thinks everything they say is fascinating, which is now the kind of person I've become.

• 26:35Speaker 04

Anyway, um, no, but that it was, um, Cameron came on my podcast once and I, cause I had read in an article that she was, her feelings were hurt.

• 26:48Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 26:49Speaker 04

I didn't know, like, I wanted to send her flat, I didn't know how to really approach that. Um, and then I, I never had the courage to ask Sofia to clarify it for me.

• 26:59Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, but you cleared the air when you had her on the podcast?

• 27:01Speaker 04

  Only kind of.

• 27:02Josh Horowitz?

  Kind of, okay.

• 27:03Speaker 04

Maybe she would be clear the air on this podcast?

• 27:05Josh Horowitz?

Once and for all, no shade to Cameron Diaz, we love you.

• 27:09Speaker 04

Yeah, well, I, cause I didn't know if I should launch, I only had 25 minutes with her. I didn't know if I should launch immediately into like, I'm really sorry that I

• 27:18Josh Horowitz?

  Inadvertently, yeah.

• 27:20Speaker 04

I wasn't doing that. Anyway, I don't know if I handled it well. I did tell her, um, that she does something that I call the Cameron Diaz effect, which is that a scene in Charlie's Angels when she is dancing to Baby Got Back.

• 27:37Josh Horowitz?

That sounds right, yeah, I think so.

• 27:39Speaker 04

Oh, man, she's having so much fun. The audience has fun.

• 27:43Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 27:43Speaker 04

  You're loving it.

• 27:44Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 27:45Speaker 04

Like, and I was able to give her that compliment.

• 27:48Josh Horowitz?

Nice. Whereas, um, is Smiley Face top tier for you? It has to be.

• 27:52Speaker 04

You know how to make, you know how to warm me up. Smiley Face is, um, was like a pin, I was just talking about it this morning because it was such a pinnacle of acting joy for me, on the ground.

• 28:09Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 28:10Speaker 04

  Scrappy.

• 28:11Josh Horowitz?

  Gregor rocky.

• 28:12Speaker 04

Gregor rocky and playing this character that I did not think, I kept asking the writer, Dylan, how did you know to write this for a girl? Like, what, like, this is, because everything about Jane was asexual. And up until that point, all my characters, there was always some kind of love interest. There was always some kind of pressure to be a very lovable, you know, likeable girl.

• 28:43Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 28:43Speaker 04

Which, uh, that, I don't know, it's, that's a lot of pressure. And so it was liberating.

• 28:50Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 28:51Speaker 04

And, and it rim. I think of that time so fondly and I love it. If a fan comes up to me and says, smiley face, I feel like we're in this club together.

• 29:04Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 29:04Speaker 04

  So, thank you.

• 29:05Josh Horowitz?

No, of course. I remember it vividly. I mean, it is funny, like, so you talk about those early years and you're bouncing, you're getting some cool dramatic work. I mean, what are you going up for? Like, are you getting, are you getting many opportunities outside of the comedy realm? Like, is that something that you kind of like, had to kind of reconcile, like? And actually, you have a couple of things coming up that are kind of more in the dramatic vein, it seems like, that I do want to talk about.

• 29:29Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 29:30Josh Horowitz?

But like, it seems like, I don't know, it's been a bit of a struggle to kind of like convince people, this is what actually I am passionate about.

• 29:38Speaker 04

I had an audition for Six Feet Under.

• 29:41Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, wow.

• 29:42Speaker 04

The pilot, in front of Alan Ball. Like, I was, I, it was my callback, so I'd already, like, earned that, but, um, but still, like, because of, I think some actors, if their launch, if their movie launch had been as successful as Scary Movie, but it was in the dramatic realm,

• 30:01Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 30:02Speaker 04

maybe they would have gone straight to Alan. But I, and I did not mind auditioning because it made me feel like I'm earning it for an appropriate reason. But anyway, so I'm at this audition, Alan Ball is across from me.

• 30:19Speaker 04

And I'm doing this scene where my character's getting high on crack and with her friends or whatever, and she gets a phone call and her dad has died. This isn't the pilot, right?

• 30:32Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 30:33Speaker 04

And, so I'm doing the scene and I'm pretending to answer the call and it's an intense scene, of course. I mean, you're high and you find out that your dad's died. And I'm doing the scene and Alan just starts laughing. He just starts, ha, ha, ha, ha. And I'm like, what? You know, whatever I, whatever the lines are, like, and I, he is laughing and I, and I, I'm still going forward with my dramatic stuff. And the scene ends and Alan said, oh, you are funny.

• 31:12Josh Horowitz?

I'm too good at comedy. I'm too inherently funny.

• 31:17Speaker 04

Right, yeah. I mean, it was...

• 31:20Josh Horowitz?

Well, it's that Will Ferrell thing. It's like when Will Ferrell says anything, you're predisposed to let... Some people have that where it takes a hurdle, for good or for bad, to forget, oh, wait, they're... They're not trying to make a joke.

• 31:35Speaker 04

I always felt like I was bringing

• 31:40Speaker 04

  a particular intensity.

• 31:41Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 31:42Speaker 04

  You know?

• 31:43Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 31:44Speaker 04

But, I mean, at least I walked away with Alan Ball remembering me.

• 31:49Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 31:50Speaker 04

And having an impression, you know? But, yes, it was hard. And then, doing press for the first time, and one of my constant questions was, "Are you afraid of being typecast?"

• 32:01Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 32:02Speaker 04

  I don't remember how I answered, but I remember how I felt.

• 32:06Josh Horowitz?

  The answer was yes.

• 32:07Speaker 04

Which was like, yes, yes, and this question keeps getting...

• 32:09Josh Horowitz?

  It was reinforcing.

• 32:10Speaker 04

Yes, 100%. And what does this mean? So eventually, around 2006, I really felt like, "I'm gonna go work at that ad agency unless I am proactive in my own career. How do I do that?"

• 32:28Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 32:29Speaker 04

And that was the House Bunny journey.

• 32:33Josh Horowitz?

Right. Which began with you. That was a story idea you had, right?

• 32:36Speaker 04

  Yeah, well, a character.

• 32:38Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 32:38Speaker 04

My story was different. It was dark.

• 32:40Josh Horowitz?

  A little darker, right?

• 32:41Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 32:42Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, back in my early MTV days, that's probably the first time I interviewed you. I vividly remember.

• 32:46Speaker 04

Oh, wow, you do? When was it? Take me back.

• 32:49Josh Horowitz?

No, I remember interviewing... I think it was a group of you. I think it was you, Rumor, and Emma, together.

• 32:53Speaker 04

Oh, okay, okay. So 2007, maybe?

• 32:56Josh Horowitz?

2007, that's right, when I started in MTV 2006. And, I mean, yeah, that must have been empowering, for lack of a better word, like, to create something on your own, because it sounds like you had that epiphany, like, "I'm gonna need to make my own opportunities."

• 33:10Speaker 04

Yeah, and, and also, there's a whole roster of other House Bunny ideas that didn't make it to House Bunny. You know what I mean? Gold Diggers, well, there's a bunch. Anyway.

• 33:21Josh Horowitz?

  Okay.

• 33:23Speaker 04

But, the... We pitched that movie 24 times, all around LA. And on the 24th time, it was Happy Madison, Adam Sandler's company. And he was like, "All right." We didn't even get to pitch to him. Um, but he saw me in the waiting room and he said, what are you doing here? And I said, I'm here to pitch you a movie. And he said, what's it about? And I said, a Playboy bunny who gets kicked out of the mansion. And he was like, okay, alright, that's pretty funny. Okay, he walks away. And then we sold it. That very, it was like our, there was no one else, like. It was amazing. And then six to eight weeks later, I was on set in L.A.

• 34:07Speaker 04

with a crew of like 200 people. I was, that, like, I was.

• 34:16Josh Horowitz?

Well, it's funny because it's like so much of it also is timing and where the industry is too. If you look at your career, you kind of were lucky and it's kind of, it makes me sad because the industry isn't making the kind of things that I loved that you were making back then nearly as much, right? It's like, I feel like What's Your Number was like the last like sex comedy. I feel like, um, these like, I don't know, their comedy generally is not on the big screen, right? Did you kind of like, is that, is that part of why you went to TV, why you went to mom? Like, did you kind of see a change in the, the weather or no?

• 34:49Speaker 04

No, I, um, I wanted to, well, I'm, I'm always, I always wanted, want a job, you know? And, and in fact, I think a potentially a mistake that I made was maybe not being discerning enough, I think. Um, you know, I, but, I don't know. I've had, how could I, how could I say that? I've had so, so much opportunity, so many building blocks, each experience being its own particular education. But, um, I, I, the, comedy has given me, it's given me an ability to laugh at myself.

• 35:42Speaker 04

You know, that's liberating. It's given me, I think, longevity in my career.

• 35:48Josh Horowitz?

  Yep.

• 35:48Speaker 04

It's given me a broad fan base that is generational. Doing this press tour, I am so in awe of how many young people

• 36:01Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 36:01Speaker 04

have seen my work. I, you know.

• 36:05Josh Horowitz?

What's the most inappropriate quote you get from your films quoted back to you? Maybe by someone that's a little too young. Are there quotes that sometimes you get, you're like,

• 36:13Speaker 04

Oh, I wish I had a super quippy answer for this. Um.

• 36:19Speaker 04

  My Cindy Campbell doesn't get.

• 36:23Josh Horowitz?

  The actual one.

• 36:24Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 36:25Josh Horowitz?

I did re-watch a little of a movie forty-three. Does anybody ever, does anybody ever say, will you poop on me?

• 36:32Speaker 04

You really did watch that movie?

• 36:34Josh Horowitz?

  Well, your part.

• 36:36Speaker 04

That's really sweet of you. Did you feel depressed a little bit?

• 36:40Josh Horowitz?

No, I'm fine. I've seen worse. I've seen.

• 36:42Speaker 04

  Are you seeing worse?

• 36:44Josh Horowitz?

I didn't watch Yogi Bear, to be fair.

• 36:46Speaker 04

Oh, that's good. Okay, that's fine. You don't, you don't need to.

• 36:49Josh Horowitz?

Which did well, by the way. Like, no shade to Yogi Bear. Come on. That has an audience. Everything has an audience.

• 36:53Speaker 04

  But I do.

• 36:56Speaker 04

I really have operated on, um, really feeling like I'm not going to get the next job a little too much, you know?

• 37:05Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 37:06Speaker 04

  And.

• 37:07Josh Horowitz?

Well, I don't trust the people that are too comfortable. I mean, it's, it's.

• 37:11Speaker 04

I don't either, but they're all over the place.

• 37:14Josh Horowitz?

Are they? They're pretending. They're not, they're not secure, right?

• 37:18Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 37:19Josh Horowitz?

I mean, I just, I just reconcile that I will always be worried and tense and.

• 37:24Speaker 04

I also, along with the self-describer, the kind of person that I met in L.A. when I first moved there, that was new to me, was also the nepo-confidence person. Who, it felt like, I met a handful of people who felt like fame for them was just a matter of when. When they wanted to come out.

• 37:48Josh Horowitz?

  I wish.

• 37:49Speaker 04

You know what I mean? Like, they had been around, their parents were in movie, like, that mentality of.

• 37:58Speaker 04

Of like, that, it's not a mentality, it's a core of, it's gonna be okay if you don't get that job, it'll be okay.

• 38:06Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 38:06Speaker 04

  Your friend will get it.

• 38:08Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 38:09Speaker 04

And then he'll do the other one that's bigger, you know, or like that innate, that core I have, I never had and, and I was intimidated by it.

• 38:22Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 38:23Speaker 04

You know, am I core, am I making a correlation kind of between the ideas?

• 38:27Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, 100%.

• 38:28Speaker 04

  Good.

• 38:30Speaker 05

• 39:39Josh Horowitz?

So, I mean, mom takes up a big chunk of your life.

• 39:42Speaker 04

Oh, mom, that's what it was.

• 39:43Josh Horowitz?

I was gonna say, I mean, that's what seven seasons you did. That's, that's as nine to five a job as an actor gets.

• 39:49Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 39:50Josh Horowitz?

When you look back at that time, I mean, that's in a way getting back to theater roots in a way that's, you know, like, was that part of the idea of that, to kind of, I mean, was there a learning curve or anything on that?

• 40:01Speaker 04

No, I was thinking at the time, I was thinking, um,

• 40:07Speaker 04

Stability, I think, but I also, but also at the time it was just a pilot.

• 40:12Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 40:12Speaker 04

And while it was a Chuck Lorre pilot, it was, it was a pilot. I always felt like, maybe there's a little wiggle room. And also, it was a really funny pilot, it was a really interesting pilot. Um, and I did think I'm getting older, you know, like I'm getting older, maybe I should settle down and I think, I didn't think that the movie landscape looked wide open at all. And, um.

• 40:40Josh Horowitz?

What it had been drilled into, especially actresses, it's drilled into you from like the time you start, like, you have a shelf life, like it's gonna, it's gonna end at thirty-five or forty, like, which is horrible to say, but it's like,

• 40:51Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 40:51Josh Horowitz?

That's a real thing in the industry, I feel like.

• 40:53Speaker 04

Completely, completely. And I think that was where comedy started, I like, I started to be like, wow, comedy though, there's Betty White, you know, we can, like, I can Betty White this, I think. Hopefully, if people like me enough.

• 41:10Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 41:12Speaker 04

You know, um, so, I, uh, so there was a bit of that, I, you know, comedy, the recognition that, oh, an avenue to longevity in Hollywood could be comedy.

• 41:26Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 41:26Speaker 04

If, if I can attempt to become comedic, like they think I am. Anyway, but doing the show, Mom, I, I, I loved the live audience. You, you do have to recognize that they are the happiest live audience you can imagine, incredibly generous, yeah. Yep, yeah, yeah. It's not the generosity of like the Seattle theater audience.

• 41:53Josh Horowitz?

  Surely, show me.

• 41:54Speaker 04

Uh, exactly, exactly. And, but, um, and, and I loved, I loved the on-the-ground work, you know, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, literally rehearsing without hair and makeup, you know, you're on the ground like a play, like you are, like putting the pieces together.

• 42:14Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 42:15Speaker 04

I love, and the, my brilliant cast, and, and Chuck too. I do think I, the intensity, like towards the end, I think I started to.

• 42:33Speaker 04

Lose my focus, like I think, I think the marathon.

• 42:39Josh Horowitz?

  It just accumulated.

• 42:41Speaker 04

I never had a job for, I mean, besides waitressing, like for over three and a half months before.

• 42:48Josh Horowitz?

Right. So that was part of why you decided to leave after seven, just to like, you knew in yourself that you were.

• 42:53Speaker 04

You know, the, that is, it was a complicated time and I, I think that um, I should work it out probably on more podcasts.

• 43:06Josh Horowitz?

Our second podcast, we'll dig, we'll dig deep into that one.

• 43:08Speaker 04

I truly, I truly like, I, I, I'm always hesitant to really chew into my experience on mom because seven years is, is a huge chunk of time and it filled with any chunk of time that seven years gives.

• 43:25Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 43:26Speaker 04

And being a part of a, an intense, um, amazing project.

• 43:31Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 43:32Speaker 04

I have people that come up to me, like the other, like there's smiley face.

• 43:37Josh Horowitz?

  Yes.

• 43:38Speaker 04

And then there's mom people and I feel really moved that I have been, that I've touched lives.

• 43:47Josh Horowitz?

Yeah. This is a hard left turn, but you lived through one of like my worst nightmare things. You, we can talk about this if you, or not, if you don't want, but this carbon monoxide story is so scary to me.

• 43:59Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:00Josh Horowitz?

So for context, I think this is like Thanksgiving, like 2019.

• 44:04Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:04Josh Horowitz?

  And.

• 44:06Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:06Josh Horowitz?

Like there was like, like carbon monoxide poisoning in like an Airbnb or something you were in or something.

• 44:11Speaker 04

Well, I, there was a lawsuit, so I can't get too specific, but what I can say is that carbon monoxide is odorless.

• 44:23Speaker 04

And it is deadly. And so, yes, my husband and I and my family, there were fourteen of us. We had rented a house in Lake Tahoe during the winter. We had all the heat going. And um, my dad wasn't feeling great. We all weren't feeling great. We thought it was altitude sickness and being hung over, or you know,

• 44:46Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 44:47Speaker 04

Like, we didn't, we just weren't feeling great.

• 44:49Josh Horowitz?

Who thinks of that first, like as a?

• 44:51Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 44:51Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 44:52Speaker 04

And my dad, he was having some health issues. My mom said, why don't you go to the hospital? At the Lake Tahoe emergency room, they had the wisdom to check his carbon monoxide levels in his blood, like. And they sent over, next thing you know, they're like, Michael and I were passed out. My husband and I were passed out. And we were being like shook awake by firefighters. I have this hazy memory of being told how lucky I was by a firefighter and it was, it was awful.

• 45:27Josh Horowitz?

  That's horrendous.

• 45:29Speaker 04

Yeah, it was awful. And there were fourteen of us and my sister-in-law was pregnant. And there, there isn't a lot of study on kind of the long-term effects

• 45:40Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 45:41Speaker 04

of carbon monoxide poisoning. So, anyway.

• 45:43Josh Horowitz?

It, it reminded me, I've always been like, I need to bring like a portable one wherever I go.

• 45:47Speaker 04

  We do.

• 45:48Josh Horowitz?

  Dude, yeah.

• 45:48Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 45:49Josh Horowitz?

  That's a number braver, yeah.

• 45:49Speaker 04

It really isn't a bad idea. But if you're questioning at all, so when I brought up the heat, um, this was a house that hadn't finished an inspection or something. So we were, we had all the windows closed, it was winter. Um, we were feeling ex- low, dull, constant headache, um, drowsy sluggishness. The opposite of euphoria.

• 46:18Speaker 04

So, audience, if you're feeling, if you have those symptoms, just don't rule out carbon monoxide.

• 46:25Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, there's our PSA of the day, that could save someone's life, that's insane.

• 46:29Speaker 04

  Yes, yeah.

• 46:30Josh Horowitz?

I know that's a left turn, but like, it's one of those things that I've always thought about, and when I read that, you read through it.

• 46:34Speaker 04

Yes, because we were all clocking it.

• 46:38Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 46:39Speaker 04

We were like, are you feeling like shit? This feels awful, yeah. We knew something was afoot, you know?

• 46:45Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, you know. So, okay, so Scary Movie is gonna make a gajillion dollars, because this franchise always does. Um, and it's so, the fact that we got all the original players back, it's just amazing, and it, it, it works. It's, if you want a great Scary Movie movie, you're gonna get it. Um, where are you at right now? You've got Spa Weekend also this late in the summer.

• 47:04Speaker 04

  Yeah, Spa Weekend coming out.

• 47:07Josh Horowitz?

You're also in prime time, right?

• 47:09Speaker 04

  I have a tiny role.

• 47:10Josh Horowitz?

  That's cool, though.

• 47:11Speaker 04

It was awesome. It was really cool.

• 47:14Josh Horowitz?

For context, this is, I think Lance Oppen, right? Um, and this is Robert Pattinson, playing Chris Hansen, like Dateline Chris Hansen?

• 47:24Speaker 04

And I, I just have one scene as his odd, strange wife.

• 47:34Speaker 04

And it was incredible. It was. There, I had this moment where I'm stretched out on bed, in the bed, and Robert Pattinson is grabbing my foot and pulling it down across his face.

• 47:57Josh Horowitz?

Why I got into the business right here.

• 47:59Speaker 04

  This is awesome!

• 48:01Josh Horowitz?

I made so many right choices!

• 48:03Speaker 04

  That's right!

• 48:04Josh Horowitz?

  I made it, guys!

• 48:05Speaker 04

Something's happening. I'm not dead yet. They haven't put me to pasture.

• 48:11Josh Horowitz?

No, that's, they always say, if Robert Pattinson is, that's the old axiom.

• 48:15Speaker 04

Yep, yep. I was really nervous, my foot was dirty, and I know it was dirty, because I had been...

• 48:22Speaker 04

Walking around on the set, anyway.

• 48:24Josh Horowitz?

I'll ask him when that press tour comes around how he feels about it.

• 48:27Speaker 04

  Alright.

• 48:28Josh Horowitz?

Just generally speaking, where are you at in terms of like, are you looking for a specific kind of experience right now? Are you, like, where are you at, just in terms of like, career-wise?

• 48:38Speaker 04

It's been so fun to kind of get ahead of myself a little bit.

• 48:42Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 48:43Speaker 04

In a way that a year and a half ago I wouldn't have imagined. Like, you know, things start cooking because you're on this press tour and all this you're grateful for the momentum.

• 48:56Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 48:59Speaker 04

So I am allowing myself to imagine some awesome dreams.

• 49:05Speaker 04

And this is why it's been emotional.

• 49:09Josh Horowitz?

  That's amazing.

• 49:11Speaker 04

  I'm, yeah, I'm thinking about

• 49:16Speaker 04

how do I lean into my strengths, you know?

• 49:20Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 49:21Speaker 04

Because I've had people over the last 26 years remember characters that I've played and really loved them.

• 49:30Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 49:31Speaker 04

And how do I, I don't want to

• 49:37Speaker 04

  I don't want to I don't think there's anything more satisfying.

• 49:43Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 49:44Speaker 04

And if I'm not acknowledging that, oh boy.

• 49:49Speaker 04

  You know?

• 49:49Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 04

We lost our house like three weeks before Marlon called me.

• 49:57Speaker 04

  So it is really like

• 49:59Josh Horowitz?

That must have, yeah, if you don't believe in something in the universe and some kind of

• 50:03Speaker 04

Completely. Like, what out of the ashes?

• 50:07Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 50:07Speaker 04

  What? New memories?

• 50:11Josh Horowitz?

  No.

• 50:11Speaker 04

  Like I can't believe it.

• 50:14Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 50:16Josh Horowitz?

All right, we end Happy Second Fuse with the profoundly random questions. Ready, Anna?

• 50:20Speaker 04

  Nope.

• 50:21Josh Horowitz?

  Definitely not.

• 50:23Speaker 04

No, I'm not. I really am not that witty.

• 50:25Josh Horowitz?

No, you're good, you're good. Um, by the way, do people still screw up the name?

• 50:28Speaker 04

Yes, but it's not their fault. It's my parents' fault. And I got famous before I could even consider my signature

• 50:37Josh Horowitz?

  Right.

• 50:37Speaker 04

or the pretentious pronunciation of my name.

• 50:42Josh Horowitz?

For the record, there are many Annas. This is not one of them. This is an Anna.

• 50:46Speaker 04

Yes, but it is spelled like Anna. And my parents did that to me. We've talked about it.

• 50:55Speaker 04

Uh, it's too late. It's too late.

• 50:57Josh Horowitz?

I called you Anna when you walked in and then you started destroying things. You started just like, you just, we took an extra half hour to build up the set again because you went crazy.

• 51:04Speaker 04

Oh my god. Could you imagine if I spent my life being upset about that? It really is my fault.

• 51:10Josh Horowitz?

No, it's not. Your parents' fault. You said that.

• 51:11Speaker 04

  No, no, it's, it...

• 51:15Speaker 04

  I would call myself Anna.

• 51:18Josh Horowitz?

Um, maybe you are the problem, yeah. Okay, dogs or cats?

• 51:23Speaker 04

  Uh, cats, even though, yeah.

• 51:26Josh Horowitz?

Okay. What do you collect, if anything?

• 51:34Speaker 04

Okay, hold on. Because I used to collect.

• 51:38Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 51:38Speaker 04

I used, I wanted, our, our house was in the Palisades, which was a community that I never really fit in very well.

• 51:47Josh Horowitz?

  Mm-hmm.

• 51:48Speaker 04

And, um, I just didn't feel polished enough. But our house itself, inside, felt like a natural history museum.

• 51:58Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 51:59Speaker 04

But like weird oddities all over and fossils and insects and bones and I guess I liked mortality. I had some very, I had a cool parrot and I had an old payphone. And, um, I was...

• 52:17Speaker 04

A collector of things that made me smile or things that just intrigued me or question things. So I am, I'm kind of building it back up.

• 52:26Josh Horowitz?

Yeah, I was gonna say rebuilding it from scratch.

• 52:27Speaker 04

  So.

• 52:28Josh Horowitz?

  What makes you happy?

• 52:29Speaker 04

One of the things about losing your house is there are some clean slates in a sense. Wardrobe, who am I? How do I want to present?

• 52:39Josh Horowitz?

  Time to reinvent.

• 52:40Speaker 04

Right? Am I all yellow? I don't know. I could be.

• 52:43Josh Horowitz?

  Could be.

• 52:44Speaker 04

I could be. The door's open.

• 52:48Josh Horowitz?

Do you have a favorite video game of all time?

• 52:51Speaker 04

  Zelda.

• 52:52Josh Horowitz?

Nice, okay. The Dakota Johnson memorial question, she asked me this. I ask everybody, would you rather have a mouthful of bees or one bee in your butt?

• 53:03Speaker 04

Alright, I know we gotta be fast here.

• 53:05Josh Horowitz?

  On your own time.

• 53:09Speaker 04

I really like bees. I want to be a beekeeper.

• 53:12Josh Horowitz?

  Oh.

• 53:13Speaker 04

So I guess a mouthful of bees.

• 53:15Josh Horowitz?

More bees the best, yeah, okay.

• 53:17Speaker 04

I can start my own hive.

• 53:18Josh Horowitz?

What's the wallpaper on your phone?

• 53:21Speaker 04

  My son shooting a basketball.

• 53:23Josh Horowitz?

Lovely. Last actor you were mistaken for?

• 53:27Speaker 04

  Amy Poehler.

• 53:28Josh Horowitz?

  Woo.

• 53:29Speaker 04

  I know, always a compliment.

• 53:31Josh Horowitz?

  Great.

• 53:31Speaker 04

  They, yep, always a compliment.

• 53:34Josh Horowitz?

Great. What's the worst note a director has ever given you?

• 53:38Speaker 04

The worst known. Oh, God. The worst known. You can see my face like, whoa, you're taking me back.

• 53:52Josh Horowitz?

  The trauma is real.

• 53:53Speaker 04

I would say, I could never, I'm not prepared at all to call this a bad note because, but David Zucker and I would communicate with face numbers.

• 54:09Josh Horowitz?

  Oh.

• 54:10Speaker 04

Anna, give me face number three.

• 54:11Josh Horowitz?

  That's amazing.

• 54:12Speaker 04

Yeah, and it was sort of like a wry joke between us because he knew that I just wanted to act like an actor.

• 54:20Josh Horowitz?

  And he reduced it to?

• 54:21Speaker 04

He knew that I was hungry for something else. You know, you're familiar with Galaxy Quest?

• 54:27Josh Horowitz?

  Don't get me started.

• 54:28Speaker 04

  Alan Rickman?

• 54:29Josh Horowitz?

  Yes.

• 54:30Speaker 04

  I, I have definitely.

• 54:34Speaker 04

I associate, as we all do, but I associate, I, I, I live associate.

• 54:41Josh Horowitz?

That's amazing. The character you most associate with is that.

• 54:45Speaker 04

Take me seriously, god damn it.

• 54:48Josh Horowitz?

And finally, in the spirit of happy, sad, confused, an actor who always makes you happy, you see them on screen, you're in a better mood.

• 54:55Speaker 04

Oh, uh, great question. Um, Michelle Bujan.

• 55:02Josh Horowitz?

Great. Movie that makes you sad?

• 55:06Speaker 04

Oh, movie that makes me sad.

• 55:11Speaker 04

  Hmm, um.

• 55:18Speaker 04

  I, I don't know why I love actually.

• 55:20Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 55:20Speaker 04

  But I'm sad annoyed.

• 55:23Josh Horowitz?

You disagree with some of the storylines?

• 55:25Speaker 04

Oh, yeah, I love actually, I don't like it. I don't like it at all, but also I watch it.

• 55:30Josh Horowitz?

  Okay, it works.

• 55:31Speaker 04

  But I don't like it.

• 55:32Josh Horowitz?

  Right. I get it.

• 55:34Speaker 04

  And then I'm sad.

• 55:36Josh Horowitz?

  That it worked on you.

• 55:37Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 55:37Josh Horowitz?

  It manipulated you.

• 55:38Speaker 04

  And then I'm like.

• 55:40Josh Horowitz?

And a food that makes you confused. Why do people eat that?

• 55:43Speaker 04

  A food?

• 55:47Speaker 04

I don't know if I'm prepared to, to, to pass judgment. I will tell you foods that have confused me.

• 55:55Josh Horowitz?

  That's fine.

• 55:56Speaker 04

But I, but I don't find them off putting.

• 55:58Josh Horowitz?

  Okay, that's fine.

• 55:59Speaker 04

I would say, um, forgive, tamago.

• 56:04Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, the egg.

• 56:06Speaker 04

It's just, you know, uh, visual expectation as a, I just, as a forty-nine-year-old, American, white, whatever.

• 56:15Josh Horowitz?

Right. You didn't grow up with tamago.

• 56:18Speaker 04

  Surprise.

• 56:18Josh Horowitz?

  Oh.

• 56:19Speaker 04

Um, another confusing food, I would say, would be.

• 56:28Speaker 04

  What is really, oh, crickets.

• 56:31Josh Horowitz?

  Oh, well, yeah.

• 56:32Speaker 04

I mean, I want, I support the idea of like eco-feed.

• 56:36Josh Horowitz?

  Sure.

• 56:36Speaker 04

However, we're gonna have to evolve to manage, you know?

• 56:40Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 56:40Speaker 04

Let's give it a whirl. But man, they're really scratchy.

• 56:45Josh Horowitz?

  Yeah.

• 56:45Speaker 04

  Going down.

• 56:46Josh Horowitz?

It seems like it would be.

• 56:47Speaker 04

It's, that is a tough bang for your buck.

• 56:50Josh Horowitz?

That's a journey, yeah. Again, no judgments if you...

• 56:53Speaker 04

So confusing, I guess. Confusing, like, are we really gonna do this?

• 56:56Josh Horowitz?

Is this really good for me? This is good for my throat.

• 56:58Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 56:59Josh Horowitz?

We learned a lot today, Anna.

• 57:01Speaker 04

  Thanks.

• 57:01Josh Horowitz?

Thank you so much for the time. Congratulations. Scary Movie, it's not Scary Movie 6, it's just Scary Movie. We don't need a number, it's just Scary Movie.

• 57:09Speaker 04

  Marlin is insisting on this.

• 57:12Josh Horowitz?

Where are you at on it?

• 57:13Speaker 04

I'm like, I'm here for the ride.

• 57:17Josh Horowitz?

That's her attitude, she's here for the ride.

• 57:19Speaker 04

Yep, yep, they're blurry for me, too, man.

• 57:25Josh Horowitz?

She's here for the ride, always. Continued success, and thank you so much for stopping by today.

• 57:30Speaker 04

Thank you for letting me monologue.

• 57:32Josh Horowitz?

  I love it.

• 57:33Speaker 04

  I'll never need a therapist.

• 57:34Josh Horowitz?

I'm here for you, I'm just gonna be waiting for you, anytime you need me. Until you bring back your podcast, I'm here for you.

• 57:39Speaker 04

Truly, one podcaster to another, you are excellent at what you do. And because I was a host in this space, I do feel unintentionally critical of my fellow podcasters. And Josh, you're excellent, and I really appreciate you.

• 58:00Josh Horowitz?

  Thank you.

• 58:01Speaker 04

Thank you very much, and I'd love to monologue again.

• 58:06Josh Horowitz?

You're immediately welcome, anytime, without gushing. Thank you, thanks, Anna.

• 58:10Speaker 04

  Thank you.

• 58:31Speaker 07
