• 1:04Doug DeMuro?

Hello and welcome to This Car Pod!

• 1:07Speaker 06

  I'm Kenan.

• 1:08Doug DeMuro?

I'm Felipe. And today we have a banger for ya! Get it started with the news. The Corvette ZR1, noted fast automobile, has gone on a little tour of racetracks all throughout the country, and it has set lap records at these racetracks. They were Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, where Kenan has driven.

• 1:28Speaker 06

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:29Doug DeMuro?

  Really?

• 1:29Speaker 06

  No.

• 1:29Doug DeMuro?

Okay, I have. And VIR, in Virginia. They set records on... Now, the interesting... Couple interesting things. Number one, the records were set by, like, Chevy engineers.

• 1:38Speaker 06

  That's very cool.

• 1:39Doug DeMuro?

Like, people who, like... What a perk of the job.

• 1:41Speaker 06

  Kind of regular people, basically.

• 1:42Doug DeMuro?

  I mean, sort of like...

• 1:43Speaker 06

  I mean, engineers.

• 1:44Doug DeMuro?

They have a pretty good knowledge of how the thing works, but they're not pro... Like, if you got Randy Pope's out there, I bet he'd beat these records.

• 1:50Speaker 06

  Absolutely.

• 1:51Doug DeMuro?

By the way, the records were, like, production car records. Now...

• 1:56Doug DeMuro?

  The engineers, it's impressive.

• 1:57Speaker 06

  That's very impressive.

• 1:58Doug DeMuro?

However, the car has 1100 horsepower and does 235 miles an hour. So like, could you or I have done this? Maybe?

• 2:05Speaker 06

Hold on a second there. That is impressive because to keep a car with that kind of power on the track is a novice. Like, me driving a 400 horsepower heavy car slowly was hard? Like, that's pretty impressive that the, like, all the systems work well enough to keep it on the track.

• 2:17Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, well, they have intimate knowledge of the system, see? Maybe race car drivers are not the fastest. Maybe the people who designed the race cars and they know every little geometric angle.

• 2:27Speaker 06

I think Lewis Hamilton might have some things to say.

• 2:28Doug DeMuro?

Maybe Ferrari should get rid of Lewis and instead hire whatever.

• 2:32Speaker 06

  A computer.

• 2:34Speaker 07

I find it fascinating that you think that these seven gentlemen are the only engineers to have worked on the Corvette.

• 2:39Doug DeMuro?

The Corvette from start to finish was worked on these seven guys.

• 2:43Speaker 07

They spent evenings, they spent weekends coding every part of it, tweaking every suspension.

• 2:47Doug DeMuro?

No, they had to work hard because it's only seven fellas.

• 2:50Speaker 07

  Right, right.

• 2:51Doug DeMuro?

  And.

• 2:51Speaker 07

Luckily, they got to race it.

• 2:53Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, and, and, and this guy oversaw the whole team and that guy at the end. And these guys, they.

• 2:58Speaker 07

Maybe it was this guy. I don't know.

• 2:59Doug DeMuro?

Look, the point is, it's legit. And the other point is, the ZR1 is really, really fast.

• 3:05Speaker 07

Yeah, other fast cars have gone around those tracks.

• 3:08Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 3:09Speaker 07

Like, it's not like it's just that and.

• 3:11Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 3:12Speaker 07

  I can't think of a good example.

• 3:13Doug DeMuro?

Well, no, it's really impressive. And also, obviously, this is just another notch in the thing of, okay, American cars are not just fast in a straight line. We've known that now for like 10 years, but this is just such a great example of it. I haven't yet driven the ZR1. They sent it here. It was a drivable car. They told me not to drive it. A man drove it under the lift and then down and.

• 3:31Speaker 06

Meanwhile, they're giving it to engineers to go thrash it around a track.

• 3:34Doug DeMuro?

These guys were in VIR with it. What about me?

• 3:36Speaker 07

I trust them more than you.

• 3:37Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, same, same, honestly.

• 3:39Speaker 06

No, that is a seriously impressive feat. The ZR1 is what we've kind of been waiting for, from the, see, a platform to see what this platform can really do. A mid-engine, like, the extreme version of a mid-engine sports car from the United States. I mean, other than the Ford GT, of course, but here we are.

• 3:52Doug DeMuro?

Although that is Canadian, the new one.

• 3:53Speaker 06

  That is.

• 3:54Doug DeMuro?

You know, here's the thing, they're gonna make another more powerful Corvette. You're hearing it here first, folks. And it's gonna have the same situation, but a hybrid. And it's gonna have the front battery and the front. All wheel drive situations can have 1400 horsepower. Okay, I'm telling you all this.

• 4:10Doug DeMuro?

It's gonna be even faster than this.

• 4:13Speaker 06

  Hard to imagine.

• 4:14Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 4:14Speaker 06

Hard to imagine. Maybe then the engineers won't be able to set the lap records in that thing. They'll need a pro.

• 4:18Doug DeMuro?

They'll need a pro for that.

• 4:19Speaker 06

  Or a, or computer.

• 4:21Doug DeMuro?

Of course, of course, we'd say that if we had heard that there was going to be an 1100 horsepower, 830 pound feet of torque one, and then they did it. Okay, move on to our next news story. Ah, yes, BMW. You read about this?

• 4:30Speaker 06

  I did read a little.

• 4:31Doug DeMuro?

BMW has come out with center lock wheels, which are a noted wheel design that inconveniences the people who own them.

• 4:38Speaker 06

Right. If it's, isn't BMW services warranting convenience enough?

• 4:42Doug DeMuro?

BMW is coming out of center lock wheels.

• 4:44Speaker 07

Worse. Instead of five, you only have to get rid of one.

• 4:47Doug DeMuro?

You're right. You do only have to get rid of, so, so center lock wheels, instead of five lug nuts, you have one lug nut. The drawback is that in order to take the single lug nut off the car, you need, you need torque that only can be provided by the Concord.

• 4:59Speaker 06

Yes, you need to be able to hit a stick with Thor's hammer to get it off.

• 5:02Doug DeMuro?

My understanding is if you have a bar long enough, you can do like a roadside tire change, but the bar has to be like, like the length of four Filippo stacked on top of each other.

• 5:13Speaker 07

  Well, it's not that long.

• 5:14Speaker 06

Or one Filippo wearing a giraffe shirt. But yeah, it does require an incredible amount of torque. For, the center locks are great for racing applications. We need to take wheels on and off the car very quickly. For a road car that's going in for brake pads.

• 5:25Doug DeMuro?

  It's just bragging.

• 5:26Speaker 06

I mean, yeah, it's purely bragging rights, and it does add cost. It adds a lot of complication. And then inevitably, some tech won't know what they're doing and will strip something. It just like.

• 5:36Doug DeMuro?

If it's damaged and you gotta replace one of these center lock wheels, it's gonna be, okay, so I didn't mention, but they're $20,000 extra.

• 5:41Speaker 07

  20,000?

• 5:42Doug DeMuro?

  20,000 United States dollars.

• 5:43Speaker 07

That's how much that car costs in three years.

• 5:45Doug DeMuro?

And their entire car. They're only gonna be offered on a few of the models. And so, but yeah, if you damage one of the wheels, presumably the 20 grand is actually kind of a deal because they're doing it at scale. If you had to buy an individual wheel, I have a suspicion it's gonna be a lot more. And yes, it is a silly thing. Like, I think it's silly. I have, obviously, the car with the center locks, the Carr G T. It's cool, but like, I don't, I'm not out here trying to add more center lock automobiles to my fleet. You can't do anything with that.

• 6:11Speaker 06

Right. I mean, not that you're working on the Carr G T necessarily, anyway.

• 6:14Doug DeMuro?

But if you have a flat.

• 6:15Speaker 06

But, or, yeah, if you, if you have a flat, if you're, or BMW people are more tinkery than Carr G T owners are, if we're honest. So you can't really, I mean.

• 6:23Speaker 07

I replaced the front hood struts myself.

• 6:25Doug DeMuro?

  The Carr.

• 6:25Speaker 06

  I did though.

• 6:26Doug DeMuro?

  Well, someone did.

• 6:29Speaker 06

Yes, it was me. But it is 20 grand is a lot for what is, you know, four hubs. And, you know, I mean, that feels like a lot of money.

• 6:39Doug DeMuro?

Especially because it just adds complication and annoyance to your life.

• 6:41Speaker 07

Or how many people are gonna actually do this?

• 6:42Doug DeMuro?

But they look cool. I've seen a picture, this picture shows them, I guess, but I've seen a picture with the car like wearing them, like a full shot of a car. They look cool. And if your M5 had been offered with center locks, 20 years later, you're driving your M5, yep, I got the center locks. That would be a point of dragging.

• 6:57Speaker 07

Are they carbon fiber? Like, are they expensive wheels to start with?

• 7:00Doug DeMuro?

They're center locks, dude. This is for the racetrack.

• 7:03Speaker 07

Is the cost because of the center lock or because the wheel is costly, period?

• 7:06Doug DeMuro?

I'm gonna tell you this. If the ZR1 had had center locks at VIR, those engineers would have been even faster. Tire changes, probably.

• 7:14Speaker 06

But it turned out it didn't need them. So they were just as fast.

• 7:17Doug DeMuro?

So anyway, that's BMW. So BMW's getting cooler. And in fact, we have another story about BMW getting cooler, which is for some reason later in the news, but pull it up now and let's talk about it.

• 7:25Speaker 06

Sure, I'd like to talk about it. So BMW has an, so it's specifically, it's Frank Weber, or Frank Weber, I suspect is how it's actually pronounced.

• 7:33Doug DeMuro?

  In Germany.

• 7:34Speaker 06

In Deutschland, announced that BMW is keeping the V8 motor. They have said that there are specific markets for, the six cylinders make plenty of power, and they keep those around. But there are specific markets for whom the feel isn't enough. They want the luxurious sound and feel and power delivery of a V8. Specifically, the American and Middle Eastern markets, and so they're keeping the V8 around.

• 7:54Doug DeMuro?

  Yep. How about that?

• 7:55Speaker 06

Here's, yeah, so BMW gets a lot of, you know, flack for how their cars look and, you know, like they're charging for all this stuff, blah, blah, blah. Keeping V8s around, I salute that.

• 8:04Doug DeMuro?

Americans want V8s. They literally said, due to America and the Middle East, which, which are politically two foes, but, but engineally, engineally, they're friends.

• 8:15Speaker 06

  One of your great points.

• 8:18Doug DeMuro?

I'm telling you, if Republicans would just go to the Middle East, they'd be like, yep.

• 8:21Speaker 06

  V8s and P8s, baby.

• 8:22Doug DeMuro?

No, but really, so, so that's interesting.

• 8:25Speaker 06

It is interesting. Now BMW, I mean, I hate to bring up my car again, but BMW learned this early on. The E34, M5, six cylinder did not sell well in the United States. They were considering killing M altogether for the United States market for that, and E30, M3, and all, like, those cars didn't sell well. They put a V8 in the M5, and all of a sudden, it sold dramatically better.

• 8:42Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, and then they did the same in the E9X, M3, and then they got rid of it.

• 8:45Speaker 06

But yeah, downsizing did eventually strike them, but the fact that they're keeping V8s around, it is interesting.

• 8:51Doug DeMuro?

There is a broader point here, which is worth discussing, which is that when this podcast started, this is our 47th episode, happy birthday to us.

• 8:59Speaker 06

  Almost 50.

• 8:59Doug DeMuro?

When this podcast started, happy 47th birthday.

• 9:02Speaker 06

  Sure.

• 9:02Doug DeMuro?

When this podcast started, we, um, we, every, I feel like every show for the first six months was about EVs killing everything. Now we got BMW saying, nope, the V8 is going to stay, and then go to the Dodge story.

• 9:18Doug DeMuro?

Ah, there it is, my favorite.

• 9:20Speaker 07

Dodge's CEO has implied in an interview this week that there's room for V8s in Charger land.

• 9:27Doug DeMuro?

Okay, I got a, I got a lot to say about this. A lot to say. First off, when I bought my last call Challenger, I bought six of them to try to flip. They're all in my house with the plastic still on them. I was told that they would stop making powerful.

• 9:40Speaker 07

Do you remember the Durango 392 issue?

• 9:42Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, the people sued them.

• 9:43Speaker 07

The G392 and the Durango S30 issue, they said it's going to be one year only. It's not one year only.

• 9:47Doug DeMuro?

And then Chrysler got sued. Because the thing about Chrysler is they're fly by night. They're fly by night. They're just doing whatever they can to get units out the door.

• 9:56Speaker 07

  100%.

• 9:57Speaker 06

  I respect it.

• 9:58Speaker 07

Can I read a quote from him from that interview? I love this quote. All right. One of the things that's encouraging is that the, the change in leadership, the head of FCA was pushed out. You know, V8s are no longer a bad word around here.

• 10:11Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 10:12Speaker 06

  Thank God.

• 10:12Doug DeMuro?

And how about that? Now, another interesting thing I found out about this car, when, when this car was first announced, my recollection, which might be wrong, but my recollection was the Charger and Challenger are going EV.

• 10:22Speaker 07

Yep. Which then, there's actually a Charger behind, whichever, whatever it's called is behind.

• 10:28Doug DeMuro?

Then it kind of, I don't know if it was dialed back or if it was intended to go this way, but then, then they said, no, we're going to put the Hurricane in it. Maybe that was initially announced, but for me, when I heard about it, it was EV only.

• 10:37Speaker 07

They announced it as a year later and then they moved it up very quickly.

• 10:40Doug DeMuro?

Okay, so then they're going to put the Hurricane, which is a six cylinder and a pretty good engine, but not a V8. Now, it's, I mean, implying that V8s might make it in the Charger. I'mma break the, break the news right here on this pod. There's going to be a V8 Charger, okay? Don't go buying a Hurricane just yet.

• 10:54Speaker 07

  Do they have a V8?

• 10:55Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, they got a V8.

• 10:56Speaker 07

Does the Rams have a V8 in some iteration?

• 10:59Speaker 06

  392.

• 10:59Doug DeMuro?

That's an interesting question. They obviously have V8s because they didn't, you know, they still are making those.

• 11:04Speaker 07

  Right.

• 11:05Doug DeMuro?

But that's an interesting point. What do they have that has a V8? I mean, it's gone in from the Wagoneer. Maybe there's Rams still, but.

• 11:10Speaker 07

There must still be a Ram.

• 11:11Speaker 06

They'll dust one off, throw it in there.

• 11:12Doug DeMuro?

But the point is, the point is, they're gonna do it in the Charger, which I consider to be one of the great cars.

• 11:19Speaker 07

If there's a business case. That is what he said.

• 11:21Speaker 06

  I mean, that is.

• 11:22Doug DeMuro?

Let me tell you what the business case is, because I've been driving around in the electric one.

• 11:27Speaker 07

  Yeah, it's behind Doug.

• 11:28Doug DeMuro?

The business case is, the vehicle behind me, the electric Charger, will be purchased by no one at any time. And so in order to actually sell these automobiles, they will need to put V8s in them.

• 11:39Speaker 07

It's a, it's a dog dealership. They will sell it to somebody who thinks they're getting the Hurricane version.

• 11:45Doug DeMuro?

Or maybe they sell it to some people in Orange County. That's the rare.

• 11:48Speaker 07

  I don't even think they're gonna.

• 11:49Speaker 06

  I don't think it's expensive.

• 11:50Doug DeMuro?

This is a $75,000 electric car. Okay, let's talk Charger EV because we're here.

• 11:54Speaker 07

  Please, let's.

• 11:55Doug DeMuro?

And we're doing it, and let's just talk about Charger EV. I have the Charger EV this week. I am exceptionally excited for this car. Because it has been trashed by everybody from Motor Trend to Throttle House. That's the span.

• 12:07Speaker 06

  The full gamut.

• 12:08Speaker 07

  From Canada to the US.

• 12:10Doug DeMuro?

Right, so they sent me one, and, right, it's already made in Canada.

• 12:15Speaker 07

  It was made in Canada.

• 12:15Doug DeMuro?

How did Throttle House trash it? It's a homegrown product.

• 12:18Speaker 07

  Yeah, come on, Thomas.

• 12:20Doug DeMuro?

So they sent it to me, and I've been driving it around, and I gotta tell you, there are things that would make it great.

• 12:27Speaker 06

  Like a V8.

• 12:29Doug DeMuro?

  It's not that bad.

• 12:31Speaker 07

  It makes some interesting sounds.

• 12:33Doug DeMuro?

Okay, the electric one makes sounds which are, I wouldn't, I wouldn't want to say embarrassing. I would want to say, what, tremendously embarrassing? Well, how would you?

• 12:39Speaker 06

  Excruciatingly embarrassing. Like, befitting.

• 12:43Doug DeMuro?

However, I'm being serious for a second, okay? The car drives pretty well. It's 5,800 pounds, which is 1,500 pounds more than the outgoing Challenger Hellcat. Not just a regular one, a heli with the big ol'.

• 12:55Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 12:55Doug DeMuro?

That's what we call it in the Hemi community.

• 12:59Doug DeMuro?

Um, but it, but they've neutralized it fairly well. It actually, it doesn't drive as floaty as you look at it. It's a foot longer than the old Challenger. It's eight, 500 pounds heavier. You'd think it's going to be massive to drive. It actually neutralized the weight fairly well.

• 13:10Speaker 07

  Inch longer than an Odyssey.

• 13:11Doug DeMuro?

It's an inch longer than a hot Odyssey, but it only has two doors.

• 13:14Speaker 07

  Not true.

• 13:14Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. XJ 220 is longer than like still every car.

• 13:19Speaker 06

  Yeah, that's multiple counties.

• 13:20Doug DeMuro?

MC 12 is as long as this office.

• 13:23Speaker 06

Well, and then both versions of it, one's shorter, one's long, short.

• 13:25Doug DeMuro?

  Even the shorty.

• 13:26Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 13:27Doug DeMuro?

Um, but anyway, my point is it actually drives pretty well. And I was, I was driving and I was thinking to myself, if this wasn't a $75,000 electric car, but instead was a $57,000 V8 car, I actually think it would have been pretty well received by the market. And I truly and honestly have enjoyed driving the car and I think it's cool. And it, but not with an electric powertrain and not with an $80,000 sticker.

• 13:48Speaker 07

It says stage two on the side.

• 13:52Doug DeMuro?

You want me to explain that?

• 13:53Speaker 07

  Yeah, please.

• 13:53Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 13:54Speaker 07

  And whatever symbols above it.

• 13:55Doug DeMuro?

Okay, here's the deal. The symbol above it is a historical nod to the, the Chargers of Yore, which were obviously also electric.

• 14:01Speaker 07

  Thoughts on that one?

• 14:02Doug DeMuro?

The, um, the stage two, here's the deal that I learned. The car, this one here has 670 horsepower. It's a stage two. The regular stage one cars have 590 horse, but in order to sell the early ones, they put the stage two package on free of charge.

• 14:19Speaker 07

  Right.

• 14:19Doug DeMuro?

And yet they still haven't sold. Anyway, the point of this news story and the point of this whole thing is, I actually think it's a pretty good car. If it had power, if it had power from a V8.

• 14:27Speaker 07

  160 horsepower.

• 14:28Doug DeMuro?

If it had power from a V8 from an engine, I think it would be pretty cool.

• 14:31Speaker 06

  It's the feel.

• 14:31Doug DeMuro?

  It has the sound.

• 14:32Speaker 06

  I want a rumbling.

• 14:33Doug DeMuro?

  It has the rumble.

• 14:35Speaker 06

Well, behind you, yeah, I heard it. It is funny to think that like, it has this speaker that is ear piercingly loud. And you think there could be modifications from like, there could be like a Corsa, you know, UUC Corsa of like exhaust speaker mod for this thing. But you want the, I want the rock of a V8. I mean, that's what you want.

• 14:54Doug DeMuro?

Dude, I'm telling you, you turn this, you put this thing to drag mode, it's shaken. It's shaken. But I'm not going to defend the EV thing, mostly because of the pricing. I think if it was priced at 49995 with EV power, it'd actually be pretty appealing. But it ain't.

• 15:05Speaker 07

  Also it's built double.

• 15:06Speaker 06

Yeah, it's a lot. And it will not, that will depreciate faster than you can think.

• 15:11Doug DeMuro?

However, I truly think it's a pretty good car generally. And I think they screwed up by launching it with the two-door only and with an EV only. I think when the four-door comes, when the hurricane comes, if V8s come, I think this car will eventually be well received by enthusiasts. It's just not at that point yet. But I was surprised how much I like driving it. I'm surprised how much I like looking at it. It is a much better platform than the old one. Which was an eight, you know, the old one came out in 08.

• 15:35Speaker 07

  Yep.

• 15:35Doug DeMuro?

The two-door. The interior is leagues ahead. The tech is leagues ahead. Like, it's a much better dynamic experience.

• 15:42Speaker 07

It is. Interesting. It's just expensive with an electric motor.

• 16:47Speaker 07

First of all, they had to release it because they need to sell something, and the hurricane isn't ready. Also, how much longer than an XJ, or shorter than an XJ 220, do you think it is?

• 16:55Doug DeMuro?

Uh, I think it's, I think it's probably four inches longer.

• 16:59Speaker 07

  Ken?

• 17:02Speaker 07

Yeah, try to picture it. It's quite a common sight.

• 17:04Speaker 06

I think it's, I think it's only two inches longer.

• 17:06Speaker 07

  It's a foot longer.

• 17:07Doug DeMuro?

  A foot longer.

• 17:08Speaker 06

  Foot longer. Wow.

• 17:09Doug DeMuro?

Okay, the point is, this whole thing has been interesting. And this is, this, this and the BMW news story are tied together. Here are two brands who tried to go EV who pulled it back. We covered a couple of weeks ago that Chrysler bailed on the airflow EV that they were gonna make. I just had this Jeep Wagoneer S electric car as a press car also. It's fine. It's not gonna, it's not gonna light the world on fire. The EV pullback is here. And this is specifically interesting because it is the first car where they took a beloved gas-powered car, made it electric, and we saw what happened, which was not pretty. And that brings us to the Porsche news story.

• 17:45Speaker 07

  Yep.

• 17:45Doug DeMuro?

  Which is...

• 17:46Speaker 07

  One more.

• 17:48Doug DeMuro?

  Same thing.

• 17:48Speaker 07

Yeah, that's fine. Porsche has announced that they're gonna work to add, that they're investing about $800 million in the next year to bring back

• 17:57Speaker 07

  internal combustion and hybrid-powered vehicles.

• 18:00Doug DeMuro?

So Porsche was the other company that was gonna do this. They were gonna take a beloved gas-powered car and turn it into EV.

• 18:05Speaker 07

  The Macan.

• 18:06Doug DeMuro?

What do you, no, the Boxer. What do you wanna bet they don't?

• 18:10Speaker 06

  I would not be surprised.

• 18:11Speaker 07

  They still will.

• 18:11Speaker 06

They're smart. I mean, it happens where manufacturers develop a car, realize the concept isn't gonna work and kind of throw it away. They were developing a V8 for the 911, for instance, in the 1990s, and decided, no, we're gonna stick with 5.6 power. I wouldn't be surprised, like you said, if they go, you know what, it's clear the market doesn't want this, let's not do it.

• 18:28Doug DeMuro?

I think they're gonna do both.

• 18:29Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 18:30Doug DeMuro?

I think they're gonna do the EV because they're probably almost done with it. But I bet they do, still do a gas version.

• 18:35Speaker 06

I almost guarantee they do a gas version.

• 18:37Speaker 07

They learned from the Macan EV, which is out, not really seen a ton of them around, and they've decided to extend the lifespan of the regular Macan. But they invested all this money and time in building a new generation.

• 18:48Doug DeMuro?

  When I...

• 18:48Speaker 07

And they didn't do that for the...

• 18:49Doug DeMuro?

When they sent me the EV.

• 18:51Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 18:51Doug DeMuro?

They told me, which was a great car, they told me specifically, a gas version cannot be made. It was not designed for it, it cannot be made. What do you wanna bet they make one?

• 18:59Speaker 07

  I wouldn't be shocked.

• 19:00Speaker 06

What do you wanna bet it just happens?

• 19:01Speaker 07

  Happens to work out.

• 19:01Doug DeMuro?

Just kidding about that, you know, very funny joke.

• 19:04Speaker 07

Many took an interesting approach. I don't know if you remember this. Many has a new, there's a new Mini. And there's an EV and a gas powered engine, a gas powered one. They are fully separate vehicles. They actually don't share an underlying chassis.

• 19:17Doug DeMuro?

  What? That's insane.

• 19:18Speaker 07

They do what the Lightning. The differences because the interior is notably different as a result of that. I wouldn't be shocked if Porsche updates their current platform.

• 19:29Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, yeah.

• 19:29Speaker 07

To look to look like the new one, but it won't actually be on the new.

• 19:32Doug DeMuro?

Maybe. I'll tell you, either way, though, these three news stories hitting this week all are very interesting. And that's in conjunction, by the way, with Porsche announcing that sales were down last year. Sales they expect they're forecasting a sales decline again in 25. I'm sitting at the dealership.

• 19:44Speaker 07

Primarily by China, not the US. In the US, there were sales.

• 19:47Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, but what is, what is selling in China is they got EVs that Panameras, four doors that they claim are not selling. Porsche has, I mean, it's, the whole thing is, is an interesting situation and we're seeing sort of upheaval in the car world. I think if you had sat here and made predictions three years ago, you would be surprised at what has happened.

• 20:05Speaker 07

  Agreed.

• 20:06Doug DeMuro?

Since then, and I don't think it's all political, like there's obviously there's going to be incentives changing, but I think there's some demand.

• 20:12Speaker 07

I didn't even think three years ago, about two months and I would be kind of, I'd be surprised.

• 20:15Doug DeMuro?

I mean, the writing was starting to get on the wall, maybe a year ago, we were starting to hear of automakers pushing their EV targets back.

• 20:21Speaker 07

But even so, like, yeah, it is, it is interesting. I, I'm, and to your point, I think there is room for EVs in these cars. But for the experiential stuff, sports cars, muscle cars.

• 20:31Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, the Macan.

• 20:32Speaker 07

Very, very. No, exactly. But you, that's exactly right. You don't need an engine in that car necessarily. That, that would be fine as an EV if it fits into your life that way, which it doesn't for everybody.

• 20:41Doug DeMuro?

And indeed, regardless of whether it does or not, people don't seem to be buying them. I do think there needs to be a broader education on EVs in, for the buying public. I see so many people trashing EVs, including people for whom I actually think EVs would be pretty perfect.

• 20:55Doug DeMuro?

I don't think most people realize how well an EV would adapt to their lives, or they're afraid because they don't have to fill up with electric.

• 21:03Doug DeMuro?

And it's like, you don't, you don't underst- like, this isn't gonna be an issue for you. However, yeah, for the experiential cars, the cars that are interesting, the BMW's keeping V8s, Dodge is putting a V8 back into the Charger after saying they were going the other direction, and Porsche is saying that they're gonna spend $800 million to put gas-powered versions of their cars, re-energize gas-powered versions of their cars in the lineup.

• 21:26Speaker 06

  Long live the gasoline engine.

• 21:28Doug DeMuro?

Damn. So, as the, the point of this news story is that Porsche is gonna bump up the, the heavy exclusive option divisions.

• 21:36Speaker 07

  That's correct.

• 21:37Doug DeMuro?

  Sonderwischen, just like special wishes?

• 21:39Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 21:39Doug DeMuro?

  Yes.

• 21:40Speaker 07

We talked, and they also have another one that's like exclusive something, I can't, exclusive, but German, which is related. We talked last week about how for Ferrari, something like 25% of their revenue came from

• 21:52Doug DeMuro?

  20%?

• 21:52Speaker 07

  From options.

• 21:53Doug DeMuro?

  Just options.

• 21:54Speaker 07

It's not surprising that they wanna make extra money on the same thing, right? Give people a little bit more what they want, charge heavily for it.

• 22:01Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 22:02Speaker 07

I mean fundamentally, paint a sample at this point is just a catalog of colored.

• 22:05Doug DeMuro?

It is one of the most laughable things in the world. Porsche charges like 15 grand for a paint to sample. No one is submitting samples, they're just choosing colors from the old days.

• 22:12Speaker 07

  This.

• 22:12Doug DeMuro?

  Which they just have.

• 22:13Speaker 07

  Right.

• 22:14Doug DeMuro?

  Like, available.

• 22:15Speaker 07

  It's a specific subset.

• 22:16Doug DeMuro?

These rich guys think they got something special. They're like, I got this paint to sample. What was the sample? Oh, it was a color they made in 2007.

• 22:22Speaker 07

  Kasey's red.

• 22:26Speaker 07

This Sonderwischen, whatever, Sonderh- I don't know, I don't speak German, is that next level where maybe you can get something a little bit more.

• 22:33Doug DeMuro?

Well, I still want a Cayman shooting brake. What do I have to do?

• 22:36Speaker 07

  Pay.

• 22:37Doug DeMuro?

Do I have to go to Germany and knock on some doors? One time, one time I was in Germany and I tried to order at a McDonald's drive-thru using English, and it didn't work, because I didn't speak English, and I didn't speak German.

• 22:47Speaker 07

  Seems eminently reasonable.

• 22:49Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah. It was really cold.

• 22:55Speaker 06

The McDonald's or the temp truck?

• 22:56Doug DeMuro?

No, it was, it was like February and

• 23:00Speaker 06

  It's a hard.

• 23:01Doug DeMuro?

I had just seen a ZJ Grand Cherokee, which I was really excited about.

• 23:04Speaker 07

  That is very exciting.

• 23:05Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. Okay, give us the next news story, please.

• 23:07Speaker 06

I have to skip through a couple.

• 23:08Doug DeMuro?

Ah, Lucid. Filippo, tell us about Lucid.

• 23:11Speaker 07

  Lucid, said last week.

• 23:13Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 23:13Speaker 07

First of all, this is the Lucid Gravity, as you're aware.

• 23:16Doug DeMuro?

  Mini-van.

• 23:17Speaker 07

  It's like a mini-van.

• 23:18Doug DeMuro?

  It's an SUV.

• 23:18Speaker 06

  Really does.

• 23:19Doug DeMuro?

I don't know, they can call it.

• 23:22Doug DeMuro?

I've spent a lot of time looking at cars. That's a minivan. I'm just gonna say it.

• 23:30Speaker 07

Their CEO, Peter Rollinson, has said that he wants Lucid to be, to shift gears a little bit and be 20% focused on their own vehicles. 80% focused on being a supplier for other manufacturers. Like Intel is basically what he said, right? Where there are Intel chips in computers, they want their motors and drivetrains and components to be in other manufacturers' cars. They had a deal for a little bit with Aston Martin to provide their electric vehicle motors. And Lucid, to their credit, is very well-known for having some of the most advanced motor designs, some of the smallest motors, the most power. So it makes some sense. The question is, does any manufacturer want that right?

• 24:12Doug DeMuro?

Well, probably. I mean, yeah, that's an interesting point. We're sitting here talking about how automakers are cagey about EVs. Lucid is struggling, although I read in one of these press releases, in one of these stories about this exact topic, that Lucid wants to sell a million cars globally.

• 24:26Speaker 07

Sure, if you count all componentry.

• 24:28Doug DeMuro?

By the early 2030s. And last year, they sold like 5,400 cars.

• 24:32Speaker 07

No, they sold a little bit of that.

• 24:32Doug DeMuro?

That's ambitious on a level that is actually kind of difficult to describe.

• 24:38Speaker 06

That's like Filippo actually wanting to become a driver.

• 24:40Doug DeMuro?

  To become a driver.

• 24:41Speaker 06

  I'm not saying you can't.

• 24:42Doug DeMuro?

Which is, which is more likely, do you think? That they, that with the minivan and the, and the car.

• 24:48Speaker 06

I mean, hey, man, he's already got the shirt. He's halfway, he's closer than that.

• 24:52Doug DeMuro?

  He's closer than that.

• 24:55Doug DeMuro?

It's an interesting idea. Lucid, which we've been, they've been preaching these special, beautiful cars. I mean, the Sapphire was incredible. Now they're sitting here saying, you know what? We actually want the vast majority of our business to not really be making the cars.

• 25:08Speaker 07

I get, I get it though, because they, they certainly had a lot of trouble getting demand up for their vehicles. And it is really hard to launch a full brand and, and get marketing out, get dealerships, make sure that that's a good experience for your, your buyers. Providing componentry, being an equipment provider for OEMs.

• 25:26Speaker 07

That's a known model that could work, especially because a lot of OEMs probably don't want to invest the hundreds of millions of dollars that it would take to develop their own batteries and electric motors and other componentry.

• 25:36Doug DeMuro?

  I guess.

• 25:36Speaker 07

  But Rivet and Volkswagen.

• 25:37Doug DeMuro?

  I drove that Xiaomi SU7 and they're.

• 25:40Speaker 06

  This was the.

• 25:41Speaker 07

They also buy parts from other made, from other folks, though.

• 25:44Speaker 06

Didn't Rimots do this? Wasn't that their whole thing? The whole point of the super cars, like do their.

• 25:48Speaker 07

  So they clamped.

• 25:48Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 25:49Doug DeMuro?

The whole concept is certainly interesting and I'm interested to see how it plays out. But here is yet another news story today about how an EV company is facing dodginess. The only non-story of this was BMW M center lock wheels. Even the ZR1 story was pro non-EV.

• 26:05Speaker 06

  Hell, yeah.

• 26:07Doug DeMuro?

So what world are we living in?

• 26:09Speaker 07

The world where the, some of the realities of what is actual demand have come into play again.

• 26:13Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, it is interesting when you pull away incentives and when a certain portion of the population already gets these cars and when they get so expensive, 75 grand for a charger.

• 26:22Speaker 07

  Price is a real concern.

• 26:23Doug DeMuro?

You start to wonder about like, does this have real legs?

• 26:26Speaker 07

One of the new stories that we didn't talk in depth about last week was manufacturers are starting to come out and have committed to some cheaper cars. For some of them, that is de-contenting.

• 26:34Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 26:34Speaker 07

Some existing products. For others, it's all new lines. The Kia K4 was the best selling Kia in Q4 of 2024. That's their cheapest model. It's hard to sell a however much elusive gravity will cost.

• 26:46Doug DeMuro?

It absolutely is, especially in, especially in a world with 6% interest rates, especially when people see the depreciation that these cars have. And so that results in people wanting to lease them, which results in enormous incentives from the manufacturer that comes back to them.

• 27:01Speaker 07

  Yep.

• 27:02Doug DeMuro?

It is interesting. It certainly is interesting. I do wonder if EV, if they, if there were some EVs that were priced at a more reasonable number.

• 27:08Speaker 07

It's hard to get the price down, though. I mean, Chevy, to their credit, has done the best job of this.

• 27:11Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 27:12Speaker 07

The only really affordable ones, the most affordable one is.

• 27:15Doug DeMuro?

  Have all been.

• 27:16Speaker 07

  Is the Equinox EV.

• 27:17Doug DeMuro?

And initially the Bolt and the Volt.

• 27:18Speaker 07

Right. And like, it's, but it's hard to get the price point to there.

• 27:22Doug DeMuro?

  It is.

• 27:22Speaker 07

Without a lot of scale, without a lot of investment.

• 27:23Doug DeMuro?

And, and to really, to really make money, which is honestly why Tesla's so successful. The Model 3 is a tremendously good performer at a fairly reasonable price point. Never quite where they said it would be, but like, when you look at it.

• 27:35Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 27:35Doug DeMuro?

And, and especially when you consider lease rates and what it offers, that is like a really good combination of everything and has been rewarded with massive sales. $120,000 minivan, tough sell. Ask Mercedes about the R63 AMG, or ask Mercedes about any EV.

• 27:49Speaker 06

Yeah, I think for me, this is analogy that I know you will roll your eyes at, but this reminds me a lot of the Swiss quartz crisis, the watch crisis in the 1980s.

• 27:57Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 27:57Speaker 06

Sure, well, they might too, but they, that's where watches switched from mechanical to battery powered watches. They are more precise, they are cheaper to make, but they're still charging a ludicrous, ludicrous amount of money for them. And I think something like in the mid 80s, 75% I think of all watches produced were quartz. But that's not what the customers wanted in the end. They wanted that mechanical thing because that's what they attached to that craftsmanship and blah blah. It's different.

• 28:18Doug DeMuro?

It is an interesting concept though, in the sense that

• 28:21Speaker 06

  It went back.

• 28:21Doug DeMuro?

We have something better in some ways that is cheaper, more reliable, et cetera, but the customer is used to a certain thing. It's not necessarily

• 28:28Speaker 06

  It's not what they want.

• 28:29Doug DeMuro?

I will say, I question sometimes the EV pricing. I've been in these, a bunch of these Chinese cars now. For some reason, I've been reviewing all these Chinese cars. I have no idea. They show up here.

• 28:39Speaker 06

  They're great.

• 28:40Doug DeMuro?

We recently, I reviewed a couple of weeks ago, the Fengcheng Bao Bao 5. I'm sure you're

• 28:44Speaker 07

I am, which is not an EV.

• 28:46Doug DeMuro?

Uh, true. And it was well priced. No, but it was mostly an EV. It had a, it had a 1.5 liter gas engine, but then it had like 9,000 electric horsepower. I had the SU7. You look at the pricing of some of these EVs and it's absolutely, these, these cars in China, and it's unbelievable. Meanwhile, stuff here hasn't gotten to that level. If they were able to make them cheaper, it'd be interesting. And shouldn't they be? There are way fewer components. Isn't that what they always are telling us?

• 29:08Speaker 07

The batteries are still expensive. And also, I will say, part of it's also what American consumers are requiring right now. Lucid CO has also said that the future really is electric cars that have like 180 miles of range. Cause you can get, bringing the price way down.

• 29:20Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 29:21Speaker 07

If your capacity goes down. And fundamentally, people don't actually need that much range for their daily driver. But especially in the US, people want

• 29:28Doug DeMuro?

It is, it is an interesting concept. In China, they never had these cars with these massive ranges and quick fill-ups, right? Because the gas powered cars weren't common in China.

• 29:37Speaker 07

  You travel less.

• 29:39Doug DeMuro?

You travel less. But also like, it just never got ingrained in the consumer's mindset. Like every day in China, new people are buying cars who've never bought them before. Or, or they're, they're replacing an electric car with an electric car. Here, the, the feeling is you have to be able to drive 1,000 miles in a single Day and no one has ever done that.

• 29:54Speaker 06

  Except you.

• 29:55Doug DeMuro?

  Except me.

• 29:56Speaker 06

  Right.

• 29:56Doug DeMuro?

  And truckers.

• 29:57Speaker 06

  I think, yeah.

• 29:58Doug DeMuro?

Even then, I think it's illegal.

• 29:59Speaker 06

To your point, yeah, if they're able to increase the speed of charging and only have 180 mile range, that makes sense. That would be doable.

• 30:04Doug DeMuro?

I don't even think they need to increase the speed of charging. I think they just need to educate people. When was the last time you drove 180 miles in a day? Seriously?

• 30:11Speaker 06

  All the time.

• 30:12Doug DeMuro?

  All the time?

• 30:13Speaker 06

  Yeah.

• 30:14Doug DeMuro?

  This is, he's the problem.

• 30:15Speaker 06

No, this, this past weekend, I drove, it was like, I guess it was, I drove 90 miles in a day and then on Saturday and then Sunday.

• 30:22Doug DeMuro?

Right, then you plug it in. That's the thing. Consumers need to be educated more about EVs. People think it will fit in their lifestyle. In large part, it actually would and people don't really understand that.

• 30:32Speaker 06

This is America. We want freedom.

• 30:33Doug DeMuro?

  We want freedom.

• 30:34Speaker 06

Go whatever the heck we want.

• 30:35Doug DeMuro?

I think that's a component of it. I totally agree with that. I think people, it's why people buy Land Rovers, right? No one has ever actually taken a Range Rover off road, but the, the idea that you have this ability.

• 30:46Speaker 06

Oh, yeah. That's why the Submariners also, go dive. You're never going to take that thing down to 4,000.

• 30:51Doug DeMuro?

  I've taken my Submariner.

• 30:54Speaker 07

No, Doug, it's not a submarine. It's different.

• 30:57Doug DeMuro?

Right, right, right. Okay, next we move on to the talk cars segment where we talk about cars. I want to talk about the, the most important car of the day, which is the CLK on the site. Can you pull it up?

• 31:10Doug DeMuro?

I can't explain to you how much as a child, growing up in Denver, a little boy, I wanted an 03 to 05 CLK 55 coupe.

• 31:19Speaker 07

Yeah, you can please try to explain.

• 31:21Doug DeMuro?

Should, should I buy this car? I want this car so bad. This is a one owner California car. Silver is the only color you want.

• 31:28Speaker 07

  Yeah, silver.

• 31:28Doug DeMuro?

Pillarless. I love the design of this car so much and, and everybody's like, oh, the black series. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, this is like a $9,000 car and at the greatest motor AMG ever did, the NA 54, 54 V8. I want this car.

• 31:44Speaker 07

  Who built this one?

• 31:45Doug DeMuro?

I can't explain to you how much I want an 03 to 05 CLK 55 with the full size screen in the dash, which this one has. It's an aftermarket screen, but all accepted.

• 31:57Doug DeMuro?

Look at those buckles on that steering.

• 31:58Speaker 07

Can I say one thing about this? I support you in your endeavor.

• 32:01Doug DeMuro?

Go back to the exterior shots because it's beautiful.

• 32:03Speaker 07

But I want to say something about this because.

• 32:05Doug DeMuro?

  Go to the side.

• 32:06Speaker 07

I scheduled the cars to go live today. And right before this car went live, you know what went live? A Ferrari 550.

• 32:13Doug DeMuro?

You know what I love about this car?

• 32:14Speaker 07

And you are not seized on the.

• 32:17Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, everybody likes the 550.

• 32:19Speaker 07

  Which looks beautiful.

• 32:20Doug DeMuro?

You know what's cool about this car?

• 32:22Speaker 07

You're seized on the CLK 55.

• 32:23Doug DeMuro?

That's right. Fantastic powertrain, beautiful. And you know what I really love? Subtle. Look how subtle this is. There is not a person on the planet who knows that this is a fast car. And then you just put the hammer down.

• 32:34Speaker 07

  That's so true.

• 32:35Doug DeMuro?

This is a one owner. The only way you could tell it had the flared rockers. Those wheels were even offered on the AMG package CLK 500 or 550 or whatever.

• 32:43Speaker 07

The 350 may have had them.

• 32:44Doug DeMuro?

This is perfect. This car is perfect. I want this car so much.

• 32:47Speaker 07

  I'd go half these.

• 32:49Doug DeMuro?

  You'd go half these?

• 32:50Speaker 06

  No, I wouldn't. No, don't do that.

• 32:52Doug DeMuro?

Eighty-six thousand miles is pretty reasonable too for that powertrain. Dude, I'm telling you, I want this car.

• 32:56Speaker 06

Three hundred and sixty-two horsepower, three hundred and seventy-six foot pounds of torque.

• 32:58Doug DeMuro?

I want this car so much.

• 33:02Speaker 07

  You're not buying cars.

• 33:02Speaker 06

It's a great looking car. CLK is a great car.

• 33:04Doug DeMuro?

I'm not buying cars. I wish I was because this is kind of like, this would be like my youth finally coming to roost. When I used to lie on internet forums as a 14-year-old boy, I claimed to have one of these. Yeah. And everybody's like, that's weird.

• 33:17Speaker 06

  Weird flex though, right?

• 33:18Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, look at that.

• 33:20Speaker 06

I mean, but you have said, I mean, the clothes of the boy don't fit the clothes.

• 33:25Doug DeMuro?

  That's exactly right.

• 33:26Speaker 07

That's why I'm not going to do it, but I really want it. Go back to the exterior.

• 33:29Doug DeMuro?

Whoever buys this car, can you bring it to the office?

• 33:31Speaker 07

Just duck and stare at it for a day.

• 33:33Doug DeMuro?

It's so beautiful. That was, the thing about this is people look at it now and they're like, oh, it's just an old Mercedes. This was a time when you didn't need to do stuff to be cool. Like now, all these companies would put in gold brake calipers and, and center lock wheels. Yes, and flashy little canards. This thing just did the job.

• 33:53Speaker 07

Can you go to a 550 now just so we can get a little power cleanser? We don't have to talk about it, I just want to see it.

• 33:58Speaker 06

I, I can't believe you're saying that, but I do agree with you. This is, this is the Italian, this is the Ferrari that we've decided you and I agree.

• 34:05Speaker 07

Go to one of the side profile shots.

• 34:06Speaker 06

  Even just the front.

• 34:07Speaker 07

No, no, go to the side profile. All right, let's move on to the next story.

• 34:09Doug DeMuro?

  The CLK is more beautiful.

• 34:10Speaker 07

  Leave that there.

• 34:11Doug DeMuro?

The CLK is more beautiful. This is a beautiful car and the CLK is even more beautiful.

• 34:16Speaker 07

  That is a bold take.

• 34:19Speaker 06

  Yeah, I agree.

• 34:21Doug DeMuro?

Everybody says the black series is beautiful. What does the black series have? Wheels and some flared tires? It's the same thing.

• 34:26Speaker 06

  It's striking. It's different.

• 34:28Doug DeMuro?

Go back to the car. It is beautiful. It's just a simple design. Pillarless. Pillarless.

• 34:36Speaker 07

The pillarless design is gorgeous. I will agree.

• 34:38Doug DeMuro?

This car, this would be the perfect daily driver. If I was a divorced dad.

• 34:42Speaker 07

  You would have a 550.

• 34:44Doug DeMuro?

No! No! Look at this. This car's fussy. Look how unfussy. Look, seriously, compare the two. Look how unfussy this is. Simple, clean, pillarless, no little fluckles. The wheels are just simple.

• 34:55Speaker 07

  The wheels are beautiful.

• 34:56Doug DeMuro?

  Go back to the 550.

• 34:57Speaker 07

Okay, the wheels are a lot. I'll agree.

• 35:01Speaker 06

A lot original to the car.

• 35:01Doug DeMuro?

These are the most beautiful wheels. These are the most beautiful cars made in 03. These two cars. Most beautiful cars made in 03. But the CLK edges it a little.

• 35:09Speaker 06

575 was made in 03, not the 550, but...

• 35:11Speaker 07

  You're missing my point.

• 35:12Speaker 06

  But I don't...

• 35:13Speaker 07

  Nobody knows.

• 35:14Speaker 06

They're not. Doug and I know the differences.

• 35:15Doug DeMuro?

  And they're looking close.

• 35:16Speaker 06

  But anyway, I mean...

• 35:18Doug DeMuro?

I want this CLK so beautiful.

• 35:20Speaker 06

I appreciate the subtlety of this car. I appreciate it, generally.

• 35:23Doug DeMuro?

You know how people want like an E-Type that is modernized? I want this, but modernized. Like with Distronic and like a slightly nicer interior and like the door handles that are as smooth as mine.

• 35:31Speaker 07

Available with Distronic? Because it may have been.

• 35:33Doug DeMuro?

I don't think so. I mean, this is early days, man. This is 03.

• 35:35Speaker 07

  The S-classes were available.

• 35:39Doug DeMuro?

The CLKs weren't. They were for, they didn't...

• 35:41Speaker 07

  They were for drivers.

• 35:42Doug DeMuro?

  They were for those.

• 35:42Speaker 07

  They were for real drivers.

• 35:43Speaker 06

Yep, driving up and down the highway. It's like a toner salesman.

• 35:48Doug DeMuro?

That's why I like it. You think they're for toner salesmen, but...

• 35:51Speaker 06

  No, I like...

• 35:51Doug DeMuro?

No, everybody thinks that about these cars. They blend in, but when you get behind the wheel and you put that hammer down, you are in the next county by dinnertime.

• 36:00Speaker 06

  It's not that powerful.

• 36:01Doug DeMuro?

  360 towards power. I guarantee you, if I had a car, I race your M5, I win.

• 36:07Speaker 06

  No, that's not true.

• 36:08Doug DeMuro?

Let's roll 'em! Whoever buys this car, bring it to the office. San Diego, 92 something or other. I don't know exactly, but bring it here.

• 36:15Speaker 06

I assure you, I'll wipe you away. But it is a very cool car.

• 36:19Doug DeMuro?

  Okay.

• 36:20Speaker 06

  Yeah, anyway.

• 36:20Doug DeMuro?

Felipe, you want to, you got anything?

• 36:22Speaker 07

Yeah, I want to talk about Coinbase for a second.

• 36:24Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, boy. Okay.

• 36:24Speaker 07

Yeah, we sold a pickup truck in partnership with Coinbase. And the truck got picked up yesterday.

• 36:30Doug DeMuro?

A man came and got it.

• 36:31Speaker 07

A man and his friend came and got it. And they paid in USDC, as was prescribed in the auction.

• 36:38Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 36:38Speaker 07

And I knew how it would work. I knew it would be seamless. And it was actually like better than I expected. He hadn't paid yet. He came to the office. We signed over the bill of sale, signed the title. And then he scanned a QR code on my phone from my Coinbase app. And then a minute later, I had $17,000 or USDC in our Coinbase account.

• 36:58Doug DeMuro?

  I had it, man.

• 36:59Speaker 07

And it was truly the simplest experience I've ever had. Meanwhile, one of our producers bought a car last weekend, and he flew with cash across the country to do this. And it's like, here's a better, here's a better way.

• 37:12Speaker 00

I don't know what I'm doing. Need a break. Forget it. I quit.

• 37:16Speaker 02

Escape to Pluto TV. This is objectively fantastic.

• 37:19Speaker 01

Relax into the movies and shows you already know and love, all for free. Swing! Even our news is uplifting.

• 37:25Speaker 03

  You stay classy, San Diego.

• 37:27Speaker 01

Watch Tommy Boy, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The X-Files, Wayne's World, and so much more. We're not worthy! The best things on TV really are free.

• 37:37Speaker 02

You just have to know where to look.

• 37:38Speaker 01

Escape to Pluto TV. Stream now, pay never.

• 37:42Speaker 04

• 38:12Speaker 06

Uh, two things. One, he did do that. He was, I've never seen, it's the craziest thing I've ever seen.

• 38:16Speaker 07

And the guy still didn't give him the title. He found this out.

• 38:19Speaker 06

  You're kidding me?

• 38:20Speaker 07

He doesn't have the title. He doesn't have the title.

• 38:21Speaker 06

He was sitting on the plane, and he was like, I'm gonna buy this car, so excited. And the guy called him, and I was like, I don't know if I want to sell it. He's sitting on the plane to go there. It was the craziest, anyway.

• 38:28Speaker 07

This makes fun of our producer time, but he had to like go to the bank and do all this. And here's like a way better way.

• 38:34Speaker 06

  I actually like.

• 38:34Speaker 07

And then he doesn't have the title because the seller wanted to check the clear.

• 38:38Speaker 06

Right, I have to point out, I was here while Filippo handled this. I helped put the license plates.

• 38:42Doug DeMuro?

  He did.

• 38:42Speaker 06

Painting the ass on this car.

• 38:44Doug DeMuro?

Why did you take them off?

• 38:44Speaker 06

  They had new plates.

• 38:46Doug DeMuro?

  Why?

• 38:47Speaker 07

  Because California.

• 38:48Doug DeMuro?

California plates stay with the car. Why didn't you leave them on? These are probably 25 year old.

• 38:51Speaker 07

We received new plates from DMV. I wasn't part of the...

• 38:55Speaker 06

I followed orders very hard because it has the nut on it. It was like the Defender situation, very hard. But it was true that within like, I mean, it was over in 15 minutes. It was so fast that when the guy left, he forgot his backpack. Had to come back and get it. Like, that's how quick.

• 39:06Doug DeMuro?

It is interesting. That's one of people's big complaints about the car buying process. I'm, of course, a little skeptical of crypto and all that, but I will say, this does take some interesting friction out of the process. Because there is always that level of friction. Like, how many, when Nick is buying sketchy cars? Almost exclusively, when Nick is buying sketchy cars, the friction point is, he doesn't want to pay, and the guy doesn't want to release the title of the car until he pays, but you have this sketchy little moment here. And if you could do it all kind of at once, it changes everything.

• 39:35Speaker 07

It's so quick that it made it life legitimately way easier.

• 39:38Doug DeMuro?

  Right.

• 39:38Speaker 07

I didn't have to wait for anything, and it was just there.

• 39:41Doug DeMuro?

Well, the guy's got his truck. Where does he live? He's local?

• 39:42Speaker 07

Yeah, he lives in the San Diego area, and he is rightfully very excited.

• 39:47Doug DeMuro?

Also, the truck looks so good.

• 39:48Speaker 07

It's so cool. I moved it, like, I brought it outside for him, and it just...

• 39:53Doug DeMuro?

  Marty must have a truck.

• 39:54Speaker 06

  Yep.

• 39:54Speaker 07

  Such a good truck.

• 39:55Speaker 06

He'd asked us if we'd redone the interior. It's like, no, we just cleaned it. It's just an honest truck.

• 39:59Doug DeMuro?

You know, I drove the truck. It was hard to believe because it had a lot of miles. But back in this era, it's hard to explain now, but back in this era, Toyota's focus was on just really durable, the simple parts, but durable ones. Like, this truck doesn't have a TAC. Like, even though it's a manual, like, it doesn't have stuff that you would want, but like, it has, it runs. Like, it...

• 40:18Speaker 07

  Two gauges, three gauges.

• 40:20Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, right.

• 40:20Speaker 07

  Fuel temp.

• 40:21Doug DeMuro?

But TAC would be nice for a manual, but it doesn't have that. But that wasn't Toyota's focus, wasn't giving you nice stuff, like a TAC. It was just like, we want to make the small amount of stuff we do provide really last, and it did.

• 40:32Speaker 06

  It does.

• 40:33Doug DeMuro?

It was amazing how this truck had held up after this many miles. It's further proof also that if you have your car in California, and you take care of it mechanically, it can run for as long as you're willing to continue to operate it. It will just keep going. Like, the elements will not consume the vehicle.

• 40:47Speaker 06

So true. Since if like, if you look like underneath it was like, it was still like, I mean, for a California truck, look at that. I mean, it was, it was like, it was still.

• 40:55Doug DeMuro?

Now, this was in the pre rust era for Toyota. Toyota then had an issue where, where the truck could have been hermetically sealed and still the bed would slip.

• 41:01Speaker 07

  Moral issue.

• 41:03Doug DeMuro?

They, they recall, they replaced the frame. They replaced a lot of frames. Under recall for like 20 year old products.

• 41:10Speaker 07

  That was a rough.

• 41:11Doug DeMuro?

Frames. That is a tough recall because you have techs in New Hampshire who have to pull the body off a Sequoia and then, and then like take rusted parts from under and put a new frame. I mean.

• 41:20Speaker 07

Man, hope they had tight enough shots.

• 41:22Doug DeMuro?

Uh, right. Um, okay. So that was the Coinbase thing. It went while the truck, the truck is gone. Kenan, give us your talk cars segment. It was Filippo related.

• 41:29Speaker 06

Yes, I have a Filippo related thing. So Filippo and I, you know, Filippo and I, for those who don't know, work together. Filippo helps run this company. He's our director of operations at your official title.

• 41:37Speaker 07

  Doesn't matter.

• 41:38Speaker 06

Something like that. And I'm the managing editor. So, and I, I run the team of auction specialists that create all those things. And Filippo and I were in a meeting and he, somebody brought it up. It's like, guess what car Kenan is in. At the office when we have meetings, we sit in the back of all these cars.

• 41:51Speaker 07

Part of life at Carson Bids.

• 41:52Speaker 06

And they said, everybody said, oh, it's an M5, but we have two. We have the challenge M5. We have my M5. And I said, which one is it? And Filippo said, I know which one it is.

• 41:58Speaker 07

  Sure did.

• 41:58Speaker 06

And I looked at him and I was like, Filippo, how'd you know?

• 42:01Speaker 07

There were two giveaways. One is you have a rear dash cam.

• 42:04Speaker 06

  I do. Yes, that's true.

• 42:06Speaker 07

The second is that I know for a fact that our challenge one has a full leather interior.

• 42:10Speaker 06

  That's right.

• 42:10Speaker 07

Yours is an option yours does not have. Which is unfortunate.

• 42:14Speaker 06

  It's a benefit.

• 42:15Speaker 07

But the, the full leather interior ones don't have the rear sun shades.

• 42:18Speaker 06

  That's right.

• 42:18Speaker 07

The doors and the yours, which does not have full leather, does. And you had the rear sun shade extended.

• 42:23Speaker 06

  Yes, that's correct.

• 42:24Speaker 07

I then tried to explain to my wife why I was proud of this and she did not understand.

• 42:27Speaker 06

I once told him this, that he retained it. I, I had told it and he said, oh, that's interesting. I assumed, okay. But no, Filippo then brought it up months later. And of course, me being me, I was ecstatic. And so I realized something, Filippo.

• 42:39Speaker 07

  Yes.

• 42:39Speaker 06

I vow to you that I will learn some facts about normal cars, about normal trimos. You can pick whatever it is that you want.

• 42:47Speaker 07

  Really?

• 42:47Speaker 06

But in general, I'm going to internalize the stuff that you have to say about normal cars because I realize that is a huge blind spot in my automotive knowledge.

• 42:54Speaker 07

  Okay, I'm honored.

• 42:54Speaker 06

And I'm going to retain that information. I will try to bring it up in a meeting whenever I can.

• 42:59Speaker 07

  I'm honored.

• 42:59Speaker 06

So you will be my teacher and I will be your student.

• 43:02Speaker 07

  I vow to support this.

• 43:04Doug DeMuro?

Okay, moving on to our next segment, the market report. Now, as always, the market report is brought to you by Cars and Bids and/or the Cars and Bids app, which you can access by going to the App Store and downloading it.

• 43:15Speaker 07

Is that all? It's all correct?

• 43:16Doug DeMuro?

Folks, it only took me, it only took me six months, but I got it.

• 43:19Speaker 07

  I'm so proud of you.

• 43:20Doug DeMuro?

You go to the App Store. I have it on my cellular telephone.

• 43:23Speaker 07

  Yeah, that's great.

• 43:25Speaker 07

There's a lot of exciting stuff in it.

• 43:26Doug DeMuro?

I got a lot of weird apps recently, too.

• 43:30Speaker 06

Is that so? What is it?

• 43:31Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, no, I got some weird, I got some weird stuff on here now because I've had to do stuff lately.

• 43:36Speaker 06

  How unfortunate.

• 43:38Doug DeMuro?

I got, I got the American Airlines app.

• 43:40Speaker 06

Wow, you had to fly. Very weird.

• 43:42Doug DeMuro?

I hate the airline apps. State Farm? Why do I have the State Farm app? Get out of here.

• 43:47Speaker 06

Shout out to the United app. It's actually very good.

• 43:49Doug DeMuro?

Okay, I want to talk market report.

• 43:51Speaker 07

  Somebody that wants some miles.

• 43:52Doug DeMuro?

Oh, but our app is great, not like the State Farm app, which may or may not be great. I don't think I used it. Okay, I want to talk market report and I want to start with the Ford GT. You know about the Ford GT?

• 43:59Speaker 07

  I am familiar.

• 44:00Doug DeMuro?

  I'm gonna make up.

• 44:00Speaker 07

You want the old one or the old one?

• 44:02Doug DeMuro?

I'm gonna make up, there was no old one.

• 44:04Speaker 06

Well, there is, but it wasn't called GT.

• 44:06Doug DeMuro?

That's kind of, that's kind of the thing. You know, if I called his car the M.

• 44:10Speaker 07

  No, he'd be so pissed.

• 44:11Doug DeMuro?

Five Competition, he'd be upset. Okay, so I'm gonna make a, I'm gonna make a proclamation.

• 44:18Doug DeMuro?

Here's a proclamation for you, and I'm stating this on February 12th, but this goes live on 14th, Valentine's Day. That's how we'll remember it. I said it on Valentine's Day, the 25th. The old Ford GT, within three years, will be selling for more than the new Ford GT. So I'm talking about the manual transmission, this Ford GT.

• 44:35Speaker 07

  Yep, set a calendar.

• 44:36Speaker 06

I'm putting it in my calendar right now.

• 44:37Doug DeMuro?

This Ford GT will be selling for more than the new one that's built in Canada.

• 44:40Speaker 07

The nicest versions of this one.

• 44:42Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, yeah.

• 44:43Speaker 07

For more than the worst versions of the new one.

• 44:45Doug DeMuro?

The night, let me, let me put, I'll put it, I'll even go further.

• 44:47Speaker 07

  I need specifics.

• 44:48Doug DeMuro?

The nicest version. Versions of this one, the 05, will be selling for more than an average to okay

• 44:53Speaker 07

  Wow.

• 44:54Doug DeMuro?

version of the new one. The market is already clearly showing this. Nicest versions of this car are now in the 600 to 700 plus range.

• 45:00Speaker 07

  What?

• 45:01Doug DeMuro?

The, they're selling all the time.

• 45:03Speaker 07

  For what, Heritage's?

• 45:04Doug DeMuro?

No. All, even, even colors are selling for over 600 now. The old, the new 4GT is now down into the low eights with a little bit of miles. A special one with no miles, whatever, is maybe still a million bucks, maybe. I am marking this date. Kenon is

• 45:21Speaker 06

I'm typing it out. I'm writing it all down.

• 45:23Doug DeMuro?

He's taking 35 minutes, but he's adding it to his calendar. This date, I am saying that within three years.

• 45:29Speaker 07

  2028.

• 45:30Doug DeMuro?

The old 4GTs will be selling for more than the new 4GTs.

• 45:33Speaker 07

  Based on the trajectory.

• 45:34Doug DeMuro?

  Three times as many.

• 45:36Speaker 07

Based on the trajectory, you're so right. This is a good observation.

• 45:42Doug DeMuro?

  47.

• 45:43Speaker 06

  Okay, writing that down.

• 45:44Doug DeMuro?

So podcast number 200, I think.

• 45:46Speaker 07

  That's not, yeah, fine.

• 45:49Doug DeMuro?

  Give or take.

• 45:50Speaker 07

  Close enough.

• 45:50Doug DeMuro?

By podcast 200, the old 4GTs will be eclipsing the new 4GTs. Now, when, when, when the, when the new 4GT came out, people are like, oh my God. This is a special, this is a totally different crazy thing. Amazing. They've changed everything.

• 46:04Speaker 07

  The market doesn't want it.

• 46:05Doug DeMuro?

  No.

• 46:06Speaker 07

  The market wants this guy.

• 46:07Doug DeMuro?

It's not surprising. This is a VA with a, with a manual and it's raw. And the new one is, is very raw. It's a race car, but it's not. But they made 4100 of these.

• 46:15Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 46:16Doug DeMuro?

And the new one, they only made like

• 46:17Speaker 07

  4100.

• 46:17Doug DeMuro?

1200. They made 4,038 of these. They made like 1250 new ones. They're literally four times as many, and I am still making this prediction.

• 46:25Speaker 07

If you asked me what car for 350 grand?

• 46:28Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 46:28Speaker 07

  I would buy.

• 46:29Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 46:30Speaker 07

  It'd be a 4GT.

• 46:30Doug DeMuro?

Really? You? Did you hear that?

• 46:32Speaker 06

I'm stunned to have heard it.

• 46:33Speaker 07

  I think so, because it's

• 46:35Speaker 06

You both have invitations for this event.

• 46:37Speaker 07

It is, it is actually one of the, like, there's not that many cars in that price range, frankly, that are that appealing. But this is such a special car. It's a standalone piece of history in a lot of ways. It's not like the best version of a 911. It's something

• 46:50Doug DeMuro?

  It's its own car.

• 46:51Speaker 07

And that's, makes it really special. But it's gonna be, it's gonna be a shame when they are, when this is 600.

• 46:58Doug DeMuro?

Well, I'll tell you, it ain't, it ain't far off. Nice ones, even, even mild ones are starting to sell for

• 47:03Speaker 07

What do you think yours is? Yours is 35,000 miles?

• 47:05Doug DeMuro?

I wouldn't sell mine today. I mean, I'm not interested in selling mine. If I was interested in selling mine, I think I could probably get between 350 and 375. You just said for 350, I don't think they're out there for 350 anymore.

• 47:15Speaker 07

  Yours is exceptionally high mileage.

• 47:16Doug DeMuro?

Mine is exceptionally high mileage, but it's a special color. I think that a, a red car with my miles is maybe a 350 car, but you won't find one. It's much easier to find a car with 2,000 miles or 800 miles than to find one with high miles.

• 47:28Speaker 07

  Man, what a shame.

• 47:29Doug DeMuro?

These cars, 400 is the new baseline for like a car with any sort of miles. A higher, a lower mileage one is like a 450 car. And really nice ones are easily 600. Heritage are, are about to crest.

• 47:40Speaker 06

I hope, I, I hope that with their value appreciation and enthusiast appreciation for these cars, that Ford then starts supporting them more. Because one of the issues you've run into is like, they don't do the best job supporting these cars and supplying parts for owners. The, the things are hard to get for these.

• 47:56Doug DeMuro?

  But.

• 47:56Speaker 06

  Are getting harder.

• 47:57Doug DeMuro?

But, but I have three of these.

• 48:01Speaker 06

The jug is pointing to the lower splitter on the front of his car.

• 48:04Doug DeMuro?

Front splitters and I have a whole new set of brake rotors.

• 48:08Speaker 07

Haven't you publicly said that, that actually they're still available?

• 48:12Doug DeMuro?

The splitters are still available and still cheap. I bought three splitters for like 300 bucks, like when I bought the car seven years ago, thinking I was a god. And actually they cost the same now and they might have probably been damaged sitting in my basement.

• 48:25Speaker 06

So the gauges are a problem? Tail lights are?

• 48:27Doug DeMuro?

Gauges are a problem, but not hard to find.

• 48:29Speaker 06

Okay, but taillights are a problem. Wasn't it, was it something else?

• 48:31Doug DeMuro?

I don't know. I've never had an issue with mine. My reverse light went out, but we found out that it was the same bulb from a Tacoma and so I just.

• 48:37Speaker 06

  Reliable component.

• 48:38Doug DeMuro?

The point is, the point is that these cars are showing what the market prefers. The new 4GT has proven to be tremendously complicated. The dealers are already refusing to work on it or, or simply don't demonstrate the technical know-how. They're obviously way more like focused, frenetic, like hardcore vehicles, which I think most people don't really want for cars they drive around.

• 48:57Speaker 07

No, you can't drive this around.

• 48:59Doug DeMuro?

You can't. And the, the old one just has the, the look, the V8, the manual. It has what you want.

• 49:05Speaker 07

This is cool. I will say.

• 49:06Doug DeMuro?

  It's incredibly cool.

• 49:07Speaker 07

I remember your video where you went out and had.

• 49:10Doug DeMuro?

The new one is incredibly cool. I can't imagine these ever drop down to 500 stuff. But the old one, I, I can imagine will be in the 500 to 800 range for a long time. And I bet you'll at some point be able to choose between new and old.

• 49:21Speaker 07

Will values eclipse your Countach? Will there be a?

• 49:24Doug DeMuro?

I can't believe it. I'm sitting here watching Ford GT values climb. I'm thinking, folks, you need to get a Countach. God, that one is just-

• 49:30Speaker 06

  Or if you can, both.

• 49:32Speaker 07

  Yep, we can both.

• 49:34Doug DeMuro?

Okay, Felipe, you got a market report for us?

• 49:36Speaker 07

Yeah, can we talk about Volvo V60, please? Look, I am who I am.

• 49:40Speaker 06

I'm not rolling my eyes at it. I'm here to learn.

• 49:42Speaker 07

All right. Last week, we sold a Volvo V60 TA Polestar Engineered Extended Range.

• 49:47Doug DeMuro?

  Amazing picture.

• 49:48Speaker 07

Now, that's a really long name.

• 49:50Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 49:50Speaker 07

But here's what it is. It's a wagon from Volvo.

• 49:52Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 49:52Speaker 07

It's practical. It's great. It also has a plug-in hybrid and is the most powerful version of that. And it has all-instandards.

• 49:58Doug DeMuro?

  Where is this, Denver?

• 49:59Speaker 06

  They like doing all-instandards.

• 50:00Speaker 07

Yeah, they do. I wasn't gonna say it correctly. I wasn't gonna try. But here's a car that the, there's a window sticker in the dock section. I don't remember offhand. Okay, this is a $70,000 car.

• 50:10Doug DeMuro?

  Seventy car.

• 50:11Speaker 07

  Right?

• 50:11Doug DeMuro?

  In '22.

• 50:12Speaker 07

In '22. They've driven it 30,000 miles, something like that?

• 50:15Speaker 06

  Mm-hmm.

• 50:15Doug DeMuro?

  Uh, yeah, 30,000 miles.

• 50:17Speaker 06

  Almost 40.

• 50:17Speaker 07

And it's over 54. At normal Volvo depreciation, it's three times that amount.

• 50:22Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, a 22XC60 is like a 19 car.

• 50:25Speaker 07

Right. So I'm stunned by how well this has retained value. Now, they didn't sell a lot of-

• 50:31Doug DeMuro?

  No, they're hard to find.

• 50:33Speaker 07

T8s, and especially the nice versions of T8s, which have the Polestar engine. They don't all have that.

• 50:37Doug DeMuro?

  Yep.

• 50:37Speaker 07

This is the one you want if you want a V60. I'm not surprised somebody paid up for it, but man, did they pay up for it.

• 50:43Doug DeMuro?

Well, it's a special car. When are you gonna find another one? If you're looking for one of these, it's one of those things. It's like me looking for the GLS with the off-road package.

• 50:50Speaker 07

It's like in the wagon community, this is, you win. I think you win more than if you had like an E63 and-

• 50:56Doug DeMuro?

I was driving the Ford GT home from Denver the other night, and one of these got up next to me and was like trying to-

• 51:00Speaker 07

Yeah, it was a T8. It had all these badges. I admit, I'm a little lost by some of the top-end versions of this car.

• 51:05Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, they got a little confusing.

• 51:06Speaker 07

They got a little confusing, but it was, it was this. It was a V60 with the Polestar badge.

• 51:10Doug DeMuro?

The only other one in the country, probably.

• 51:11Speaker 07

It was pretty cool. And he was like going fast next to me, and I wasn't racing a Volvo station wagon, but, you know.

• 51:16Doug DeMuro?

  That's such a good car.

• 51:18Speaker 07

  I mean, I'm gonna-

• 51:20Doug DeMuro?

  It's a ridiculous situation.

• 51:22Speaker 07

Plus, they would have won. No, it's only 455 five horsepower. Anyway, it's so cool and I'm glad that the market is continuing to appreciate these in a meaningful way.

• 51:30Doug DeMuro?

The market does appreciate these, these V60s. I get a lot of people who come up to me on the street and I'm like, I have a V60.

• 51:35Speaker 07

  Really?

• 51:36Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, legitimately, whether it's one of these or just a regular one, but it's certainly an enthusiast's car. In the sense that it is a smaller wagon. Remember, the competition for this car, none of them were sold here. The C-Class wagon was gone, the three series wagon was gone.

• 51:49Speaker 07

And only ever the three, the last generation was just a four.

• 51:51Doug DeMuro?

Just three, the A4 was all road only and small motor only.

• 51:54Speaker 07

  Still has it.

• 51:55Doug DeMuro?

You had to be like a serious enthusiast to pursue the high-performance Volvo V60.

• 52:01Speaker 07

Plus, this, for what it's worth, I think the seller did themselves a huge favor with the photos, which look great. And selling with a ski box and a tow hitch.

• 52:08Doug DeMuro?

Was the ski box included in the sale?

• 52:10Speaker 07

Probably made a real difference because the look is great. I'm jealous of this person.

• 52:16Doug DeMuro?

  You're jealous of the buyer?

• 52:17Speaker 07

I'm jealous of the buyer and of the seller because he owned it for a few years. And he made, did okay. I want this.

• 52:22Speaker 06

Yeah, well, you could. It sounds like this guy didn't lose much money, so like, you know.

• 52:26Speaker 07

You can't find any for sale anywhere.

• 52:27Speaker 06

It's not a cost of ownership.

• 52:28Doug DeMuro?

You truly can't. He's also, it's too small.

• 52:31Speaker 07

  Can I European delivery this?

• 52:32Doug DeMuro?

You can't. They still sell this?

• 52:34Speaker 07

I think so, maybe the last year.

• 52:37Doug DeMuro?

They still sell this new? The problem with Volvo Euro delivery is it starts in Sweden at the end of the day.

• 52:42Speaker 07

  That sounds awesome.

• 52:42Speaker 06

  You gotta go.

• 52:43Doug DeMuro?

It's not awesome. It takes like a day to get anywhere you want to be. No offense to the Swedes watching, but I, but if you're going to Europe on vacation.

• 52:51Speaker 07

  It is surprising.

• 52:52Doug DeMuro?

  Gothenburg isn't your top choice.

• 52:54Speaker 07

Denmark could be nice. It is surprising how little they lost in this.

• 52:57Speaker 06

  Even then.

• 52:58Doug DeMuro?

  How little what?

• 52:59Speaker 07

  How little money they lost.

• 53:00Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah, it is surprising.

• 53:01Speaker 07

  That becomes interesting.

• 53:02Doug DeMuro?

You present it well, it's a special car, it's a rare car. Nonetheless, they paid 69, they probably didn't pay 69 too, honestly. Okay, Kenan, give us your market report.

• 53:09Speaker 06

Yes, now we had a very special car sale on the site recently. One of my all-time favorite cars, this Aston Martin DBS, but critically, had a six-speed manual transmission. They produce these cars with six speeds, but they didn't make all that many of them. They made a lot more of these than its competitor, the 599. They made, you know, a handful with 60 man transmissions. These are substantially more common, but this car was a one. In a car, Felipe and I talked about it on the live now segment of on the other channel on the cars and this channel. And it sold for a strong money, 114 grand feels like right for this car, but it had 53,300 miles.

• 53:42Doug DeMuro?

  No way.

• 53:43Speaker 06

Lots of miles for one of these. Yeah.

• 53:44Doug DeMuro?

Wow. So this thing had miles and still brought 114.

• 53:47Speaker 06

  Yep.

• 53:47Doug DeMuro?

Which is especially impressive because if you look up DB9, which ultimately had the same powertrain and basically the same look.

• 53:56Speaker 06

Yeah, similar look we'll say, but yes, but.

• 53:59Doug DeMuro?

So that, I mean, an 09 DB9 is a 42 car. It's admittedly with an automatic. I imagine a manual would be more, but the point is the DBS.

• 54:06Speaker 06

Not as much as you think, actually.

• 54:08Doug DeMuro?

Do we have sticks on here? The point is.

• 54:10Speaker 06

I've seen some sell in other places for around in the 30s.

• 54:14Doug DeMuro?

The point, the point is like the DBS without that many changes is a really, the DB, you know what the DBS is? The challenge Stradale of the DB9.

• 54:23Speaker 06

That's exactly what it is. Are you going to rail against it and say you hate it?

• 54:26Doug DeMuro?

No, I, I've never driven one. I, I've always wanted to. I wish we had.

• 54:28Speaker 06

  You've never driven?

• 54:29Doug DeMuro?

I, we should have sent this one down. It was like an Oxnard, wasn't it?

• 54:31Speaker 06

It was in Hollywood, but yeah, it's a, but yeah, I know. But yeah, it's a, I've, I have driven a manual. I've driven two, actually. The only DBS's I've ever driven were manual.

• 54:40Doug DeMuro?

  It's, it's, it's so cool.

• 54:42Speaker 06

It's not, it is an incredibly light clutch and the bite point for whatever, even when the clutch is brand new is actually surprisingly high. So it's not as like great as you think, but who cares? I got told Felipe, your heel toe downshift in a V12.

• 54:53Doug DeMuro?

A V12 and it just had, it had just enough subtle changes that like those who know know. And to us, nobody else really matters. Like if someone else sees me and thinks it's a DB9, that just means they're not that much of a car. They just screw up.

• 55:07Speaker 06

And your, your shifter looks like a Power Ranger.

• 55:10Doug DeMuro?

It was, it's cool. It's cool. It's so cool.

• 55:13Speaker 06

  Such a cool.

• 55:14Doug DeMuro?

  The shifter is really cool.

• 55:15Speaker 06

  Truly such a. But it's a.

• 55:16Doug DeMuro?

It is the challenge Stradale. It's like, it's like the upgrades were subtle, but, but significant.

• 55:21Speaker 06

  Significant.

• 55:22Doug DeMuro?

It wasn't just cosmetic stuff. It wasn't just a manual transmission. They gave it more power, better suspension, better wheels, the flared rockers, the manual, the wheel, the, the interiors. There's like little, and the, and the clear tails.

• 55:32Speaker 06

As Jeremy Clarkson described it when it was new, it's like a DB9S. Every single part of the car is just a little bit better and that totality of adding all that up, that's what makes it a better car.

• 55:41Doug DeMuro?

One owner car for 16 years with the manual here in LA.

• 55:44Speaker 06

  Yeah, 114.

• 55:45Doug DeMuro?

  114. That is a cool car and I don't know if it's a buy or not at 114. I don't see him losing value. I swear these things were 100 grand 10 years ago.

• 55:53Speaker 06

No, and I think it's just such a good experience. I mean,

• 55:57Doug DeMuro?

What are you gonna get? One of these or an Akira?

• 55:59Speaker 07

  A DB9. In the 30s. Interesting.

• 56:02Doug DeMuro?

  Oh, no, he's, but again.

• 56:04Speaker 07

  But again.

• 56:09Doug DeMuro?

Okay, we're gonna move on to the questions, questions, questions. Now remember, you too can ask us questions. You go to carsandbids.com, you click on the community tab, and then there's gonna be a post there that says, "This is where you ask your questions." And then you can ask your questions there. Did that make sense?

• 56:22Speaker 07

  Yep.

• 56:22Doug DeMuro?

Okay, questions. First question from Toyota suit bra. Question for all. Do you pay attention to the Doug is the type of guy comments? If so, are there any that stood out to you were especially funny? For a long time I did, but I don't really anymore. And I don't really remember a lot of them anymore.

• 56:35Speaker 07

  There's a lot.

• 56:35Doug DeMuro?

There's a lot. It got like, I thought they were fun. I'm not trying to like say, oh, I don't listen to that. Oh, screw those. Like, I'm not one of the, I thought there was a good period of time where they were funny, but it was like 3, 4 years.

• 56:45Speaker 07

Everyone's a friend. Somebody will like be watching an old video and like message me a screenshot of a comment, and there's some great ones.

• 56:53Doug DeMuro?

There were some great ones, but you know, the meme, I don't know, the meme's not as strong as it is, as it used to be. Plus, there should be Filippo's type of guy comments, because damn. Next question.

• 57:01Speaker 06

There are Filippo's type of guy comments.

• 57:03Speaker 07

I don't know what the type of guy is.

• 57:04Doug DeMuro?

Never Filippo spelled correctly, by the way.

• 57:06Speaker 06

  Or Kennan.

• 57:07Doug DeMuro?

Kennan and Filippo, no one's ever spelled them correctly.

• 57:08Speaker 06

  K E N N A N.

• 57:11Speaker 07

  I'm not spelling my name.

• 57:12Doug DeMuro?

Too many I's and L's in peace. Honestly, sometimes I have trouble. Sometimes I have trouble. Sometimes I have to copy and paste it off, off some.

• 57:20Doug DeMuro?

Sometimes I have to sign into our, into our Pasteub system and copy and paste it off the, off there, just off his social security information. Because that's the only way I know for sure.

• 57:28Speaker 06

Yeah, yeah. Or you just type in, yeah, PAO.

• 57:30Doug DeMuro?

Next, PAO, P A O is how I say it. Next question from Alec Metz 2011. Why do you guys sometimes choose not to answer questions on here? Okay, let me tell you what happened. Back in the day, I used to say that we would answer the highest upvoted question, no matter how stupid. And then you know what happened? Some of them were really stupid. No, what I've decided, here's what happened. I have noticed that when we post the question, this launches every Friday morning and I've, or afternoon, I don't know when it launches, to be honest. And, and, and when we, when we post the questions. I've noticed that there are some people who instantly post a question and then that gets up votes and then that question is like the top up voted question. And sometimes that question is not very well thought and is often the same person asking the questions every week and every week. And so I've decided to, instead of focusing on people who hurry to ask their questions right away,

• 58:12Doug DeMuro?

to try to take questions that are more interesting and more exciting some of the time. Not this week though, I'm answering the top up voted this week.

• 58:19Speaker 07

I will also say some of the questions are sometimes duplicative, which I'm sure is not intentional, but if we've answered in a recent podcast.

• 58:24Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, that's also true. We've done 47 of these. I have a general good knowledge. We've been asked the question a million times, what car are you excited to import this year?

• 58:31Speaker 06

What car would you buy for 45 grand?

• 58:33Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, like I move on from a lot of those questions. But generally I try to answer all of the questions at the top with, with exceptions only. I never, I never will deflect a controversial question. Throw me some controversy, folks. I love it. I eat it up. However, if they're boring questions.

• 58:51Speaker 06

It's been a while since you chewed on the microphone.

• 58:52Speaker 07

Okay. What do people listening at home without the video think happened there?

• 58:56Doug DeMuro?

Next question from Tangle92. This is actually a decent question. Assuming Kenan pulls the trigger on a Cayenne, that would mean that between the three of you, there are 10 vehicles, half of which are German. That's not entirely true, is it?

• 59:09Speaker 07

  Close.

• 59:10Doug DeMuro?

I have six cars, you have three cars, so he and he has two, so that's 11.

• 59:13Speaker 07

Two thirds of my cars are German.

• 59:14Doug DeMuro?

But a lot of German. The point is a lot of German.

• 59:15Speaker 07

All of his cars are German. Half of your cars are German.

• 59:19Doug DeMuro?

So, he says, in a hypothetical situation where all German vehicles are wiped from the planet, how would you replace your beloved vehicles with the closest American, Italian and Japanese equivalent?

• 59:26Speaker 07

  With joy.

• 59:27Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, I would actually love it, to be perfectly honest. First off, I'd get an XJ220. Boom.

• 59:35Speaker 06

I mean, I like, to be honest with you, it's like there's some, I mean, CT5V Blackwing is pretty appealing. Like it's, there are a lot, there are cars that I like that are not just German. Germans do make wonderful cars. That's what they do as a nation. 550 Maranello would be a really lovely car.

• 59:50Doug DeMuro?

  Right, the thing that annoys.

• 59:51Speaker 06

Any Italian word comes up, Filippo says it in Italian.

• 59:54Doug DeMuro?

The things that annoy me about the Germans is what makes them good manufacturers of cars.

• 59:59Speaker 06

That's because they're pedantic, focused, no humor, generally speaking.

• 1:00:03Doug DeMuro?

Good engineering rules all. I'll never forget. This is a little German story for you. One time, here in the United States, if you walk through a supermarket parking lot, you can generally assume that cars will stop for you. Like, the pedestrian is god.

• 1:00:14Speaker 06

Got your cart with your eggs that you spent a fortune on?

• 1:00:16Doug DeMuro?

People are like, "Oh, I'm gonna stop." Like, no matter what, people are walking haphazard ways in every supermarket parking lot, and cars are like 8,000 feet from them. I remember one time I was in Germany with some of my Porsche colleagues, and I was walking through a parking lot, and I kinda walked in front of a car, and they're like, "What are you doing?" And I was like, "What do you mean?" And they're like, they made it clear that the machine has the right... In Germany, the machine has the right of way.

• 1:00:37Speaker 06

Yes, you respect the car, what you're doing. Wait your turn, you are very small, it's very big, you can't sway.

• 1:00:43Speaker 07

That's true, in Italy too, but for very different reasons.

• 1:00:45Doug DeMuro?

  Right, in Italy, you can't...

• 1:00:46Speaker 07

The driver will run you over, but that's not that.

• 1:00:48Speaker 06

God made man, but man made this.

• 1:00:52Doug DeMuro?

Anyway, the point is, I would have actually no problem with it. I love my Ford GT, I love my Countach. The only, the only car that it would be annoying to replace would be the Carrera GT. What? Oh, my E-Class station wagon? I'd get a V60 Polestar.

• 1:01:05Speaker 06

Yeah, hold on a second. You said that, you said the Ford GT is the quote-unquote "poor man's Carrera GT." It delivers as close to an experience from another manufacturer. You would say, so that would be the car you'd replace it with if you couldn't have a German car?

• 1:01:18Doug DeMuro?

Well, I'd already have the Ford GT. Honestly, if the Carrera GT went, I'd probably just take the cash and hang out for a while, brag about it to Filippo.

• 1:01:26Speaker 06

But then you couldn't get a 993 Turbo, right?

• 1:01:28Doug DeMuro?

  No, I'd get an XJ220. I'd get an XJ220.

• 1:01:31Speaker 06

Wow. Don law, send it to Don law.

• 1:01:34Doug DeMuro?

And you know what would happen? Here's what would happen. I'm driving my XJ220, and I get up at a stoplight next to an EB110, and I'd say, "110? 220."

• 1:01:43Speaker 06

He made this point with, he said with my E39, he said, "Can I just realize something? E39? F40."

• 1:01:49Doug DeMuro?

  F40, you got E39?

• 1:01:52Speaker 06

  I got F40.

• 1:01:53Doug DeMuro?

Better in every way. One better.

• 1:01:55Speaker 06

  Well, yeah, obviously it's better.

• 1:01:57Doug DeMuro?

Okay, question, next question. Some guy from Seattle, we're gonna do maybe two to three more. Some guy from Seattle, "Question for all, what is the best weekend car for around $15,000, give or take $2,000 to $3,000? Pull up some sales, Ken."

• 1:02:08Speaker 07

  There's a clear answer.

• 1:02:09Doug DeMuro?

  You boxed 96 boxer.

• 1:02:10Speaker 07

  No.

• 1:02:10Doug DeMuro?

  And A Miata.

• 1:02:11Speaker 07

  And B Miata.

• 1:02:12Doug DeMuro?

And D, you can get NDs for 15.

• 1:02:13Speaker 07

You can get an ND for 15.

• 1:02:14Doug DeMuro?

We've had this discussion before, and I still don't think it's true.

• 1:02:17Speaker 06

  18, 27?

• 1:02:18Doug DeMuro?

  Go to lowest-priced NDs.

• 1:02:20Speaker 07

Oh, you don't wanna know where that goes.

• 1:02:21Doug DeMuro?

  There's 16.

• 1:02:24Speaker 07

  I remember this one had...

• 1:02:24Doug DeMuro?

We sold one recently for 15.

• 1:02:26Speaker 06

This one was totaled. I do remember that car.

• 1:02:28Doug DeMuro?

Ken, Filippo, you can get these cars.

• 1:02:29Speaker 07

December 3rd, we sold one for 16.

• 1:02:31Doug DeMuro?

For 16, but it's... How many miles are on this car?

• 1:02:34Speaker 07

  Reasonable number.

• 1:02:35Speaker 06

Twenty nine eight, let's see. Good car facts.

• 1:02:38Speaker 07

It just early ones have gone cheap.

• 1:02:39Doug DeMuro?

You wouldn't get a nine eight six over an NA or an ND?

• 1:02:42Speaker 07

  Not a chance.

• 1:02:43Doug DeMuro?

Really? But there's so much mid-engine, dude. What about an MR2? What does an SW20 go for? What are you, a twelve nine, this one?

• 1:02:48Speaker 06

  Turbo, yeah, twelve five.

• 1:02:50Doug DeMuro?

  But that's Japanese, that's right-hand drive.

• 1:02:51Speaker 07

Yeah, but you can still get a turbo.

• 1:02:52Doug DeMuro?

But I want to shift with my right hand. I'm right-hand dominant.

• 1:02:55Speaker 06

  This one's not.

• 1:02:56Doug DeMuro?

  That's a turbo?

• 1:02:57Speaker 07

How many miles are on this?

• 1:02:58Speaker 06

Probably a lot. TMU, but eighty six thousand and eight.

• 1:03:01Speaker 07

TMU is my favorite type of miles because it could be, it could be ten thousand.

• 1:03:06Speaker 00

  I don't know what I'm doing.

• 1:03:07Speaker 01

  Need a break.

• 1:03:08Speaker 00

  Forget it, I quit.

• 1:03:09Speaker 01

• 1:04:09Doug DeMuro?

  Would you?

• 1:04:10Speaker 06

  Truly not known.

• 1:04:11Doug DeMuro?

A nine nine six cab with a tip is fifteen.

• 1:04:14Speaker 06

Yeah, this one, this one fifty.

• 1:04:16Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, a nine nine six cab with a tip. I would rather have this car five million times over than a tip. Dude, can I buy that? Go back to that. Can I just have this? When did we sell this?

• 1:04:23Speaker 07

  In twenty twenty one.

• 1:04:24Doug DeMuro?

Twenty one, thirteen seven. I mean, you probably can't buy this car for thirteen seven anymore.

• 1:04:28Speaker 06

Man, that is a cool little car.

• 1:04:29Doug DeMuro?

I love this. Where is this park that this car is at? What's, where is this car? Oh, in Wisconsin. Wisconsin, I own, but it's in Wisconsin. So I was like, that doesn't look like.

• 1:04:36Speaker 06

  I assume S2000s aren't that cheap.

• 1:04:38Speaker 07

You can find some really high-mile ones at that point.

• 1:04:40Doug DeMuro?

Could I get an MR2? Oh, yeah. What about an S2000?

• 1:04:43Speaker 06

The answer. This one seems like pretty reasonable. Fourteen two.

• 1:04:45Doug DeMuro?

Oh, no, it's a weekend car? Yeah. ND2?

• 1:04:47Speaker 07

  ND1.

• 1:04:48Speaker 06

  ND2?

• 1:04:49Speaker 07

ND2 they're not cheap enough yet.

• 1:04:51Speaker 06

  Alright.

• 1:04:51Doug DeMuro?

Are you talking about the Honda?

• 1:04:52Speaker 06

  AP.

• 1:04:54Doug DeMuro?

You're still talking about the Honda? You'd rather have an ND than an S2000?

• 1:04:58Speaker 07

  No, you're right.

• 1:04:59Speaker 06

  No, you wouldn't. That shit.

• 1:05:00Doug DeMuro?

But would you rather have an S2000 than an SW20 Turbo?

• 1:05:03Speaker 07

  Yes.

• 1:05:03Doug DeMuro?

Really? SW20 Turbo is a powerful car.

• 1:05:06Speaker 07

  I'm not.

• 1:05:07Doug DeMuro?

A mid-engine is important to me. I've spent a lot of time driving mid-engine cars and the physics difference is significant.

• 1:05:13Speaker 07

  Okay, why not a 987?

• 1:05:15Doug DeMuro?

  Yeah.

• 1:05:16Speaker 07

Dot one Cayman. But you can get a that.

• 1:05:18Doug DeMuro?

I don't think you can get a manual 987 dot one at 50.

• 1:05:21Speaker 07

  But it's hard.

• 1:05:22Doug DeMuro?

Go down, go down, just go down. Go back.

• 1:05:24Speaker 07

Oh, yeah. You can do it.

• 1:05:26Speaker 06

Yes, I selected manual. He's making fun of me.

• 1:05:28Speaker 07

  Boxers for sure. Caymans barely.

• 1:05:30Doug DeMuro?

  It's hard to find.

• 1:05:31Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 1:05:32Doug DeMuro?

  It's hard to find.

• 1:05:32Speaker 07

Like, these are miles. We sold some really high-mile ones. Or problematic ones.

• 1:05:36Doug DeMuro?

I don't need a Cayman. People are always like, Cayman, Cayman, Cayman. I'm a living SoCal man. I'm gonna take a boxer all day. How many miles are on that?

• 1:05:43Speaker 06

  This one, 105.

• 1:05:44Doug DeMuro?

That's actually, yeah, the base, dude, you get a base boxer for 13 and you beat on it. You beat on it. That's a driver.

• 1:05:53Speaker 07

  That is a driver.

• 1:05:54Doug DeMuro?

I don't know what the answer is, but it's one of those.

• 1:05:55Speaker 06

  So, yeah, so S2000, SW20, um, 987.

• 1:06:00Doug DeMuro?

  And you're good at curbs?

• 1:06:00Speaker 06

  Decent 986, uh, no.

• 1:06:04Speaker 07

Yeah, you can get a TL Type S, but it's not really a great weekend car.

• 1:06:06Speaker 06

It's not really a weekendy car, yeah. Something like that, something along those lines.

• 1:06:10Doug DeMuro?

Okay, two more. This one is really fast. I'm gonna do it. You guys, if you disagree with me, you chime in, but I don't think you will. From TSX enthusiast, keep, sell, destroy Cadillac CN, Chrysler ME412, Volkswagen W12 Nardo. The answer is keep the CN, don't care what happens to the other two.

• 1:06:25Doug DeMuro?

I never got into the ME412. Everybody else, I never really cared. Um, okay, I'm gonna choose one more. Oh, here's a good one. Um. You know what? I'm gonna do three more.

• 1:06:37Speaker 07

  Wow.

• 1:06:37Speaker 06

  Sure.

• 1:06:38Speaker 07

  Do it.

• 1:06:38Speaker 06

  Wow.

• 1:06:38Doug DeMuro?

  We're gonna be quick.

• 1:06:39Speaker 07

  Do it.

• 1:06:39Doug DeMuro?

First one, which car sellers are the most out of touch with the value of their car when setting their reserve? Uh, I haven't done reserve setting in a long time.

• 1:06:46Speaker 07

  Clear answer.

• 1:06:46Doug DeMuro?

  A lot of them.

• 1:06:47Speaker 07

  Who? Modified Wrangler owners.

• 1:06:48Doug DeMuro?

Oh, modded Jeep Wrangler owners are.

• 1:06:51Speaker 07

  That's a good one.

• 1:06:51Doug DeMuro?

They think that the mods they threw on double the value when actually they don't. Especially in Florida. Um, okay, next question.

• 1:06:58Speaker 07

  That was implied, but yeah.

• 1:06:59Doug DeMuro?

Yeah, yeah, you're right. Old biddy, another theoretical for you. You're only, you're forced to own only one car that was introduced in the year you were born. I'm bringing this up.

• 1:07:07Speaker 07

  Easy.

• 1:07:07Doug DeMuro?

I'm bringing this up because it's useful for me. Reliability's in play here. What car do you pick? F40.

• 1:07:14Speaker 07

  F50.

• 1:07:16Speaker 07

Damn. By the way, this is supposed to be our only car.

• 1:07:18Speaker 06

  Right. Done.

• 1:07:20Speaker 07

  Yep. Next question.

• 1:07:20Speaker 06

Clutch is easy to use in that car. Hard to service, but later.

• 1:07:23Speaker 07

  I'm looking at the list.

• 1:07:25Speaker 06

  What year were you born?

• 1:07:25Speaker 07

Ninety-four. So the 355 was, but so was RS2 Avon.

• 1:07:29Doug DeMuro?

  C-Class.

• 1:07:30Speaker 07

  RS2 Avon.

• 1:07:31Doug DeMuro?

  C-Class.

• 1:07:31Speaker 07

  RS2 Avon.

• 1:07:32Doug DeMuro?

  C-Class.

• 1:07:32Speaker 07

  RS2 Avon.

• 1:07:33Doug DeMuro?

  I think C-Class for him.

• 1:07:34Speaker 06

  RS2 Avon.

• 1:07:35Speaker 07

  So F40, F50, and then.

• 1:07:36Doug DeMuro?

  The Outback.

• 1:07:38Speaker 07

  No, for sure. No way.

• 1:07:39Doug DeMuro?

Absolutely not. That didn't come out until at least 96, 97. The gen that it was based on wasn't even out until 95, the Legacy gen.

• 1:07:46Speaker 07

  First generation, 1994.

• 1:07:47Doug DeMuro?

That did not come out in 95.

• 1:07:48Speaker 06

McLaren F1 was in production in 1995.

• 1:07:50Doug DeMuro?

But it wasn't, it didn't come out.

• 1:07:51Speaker 06

Didn't come out. Oh, come out. Yeah. Okay. So, yeah.

• 1:07:53Speaker 07

  F40, F50, original C-Class.

• 1:07:55Doug DeMuro?

  For the 1995 model year.

• 1:07:56Speaker 07

  For the Outback.

• 1:07:57Doug DeMuro?

  For the Legacy.

• 1:07:58Speaker 07

  Outback.

• 1:07:59Doug DeMuro?

He's the C-Class. Okay. Final question from Akers Shaw. Any idea where your 360 went? Seems like an important car in the trajectory of your career. Would you ever try to get it back? Uh, I sold my 360 to a, a man, very nice man in the robotics world. And seriously, and, and he was the C2 of a robotics company. He bought it, came in, he was living in Davis, California, near Sacramento. And he came in to Philly where I was living at the time, flew all the way across the country, drove the car, bought the car, car went to Davis. This was in 2014. And, uh, I, that, that year I went to Pebble Beach, uh, and I saw the car at the Quail parking lot, uh, 137880. And he, uh, and that was the last time I saw the car and I'd never seen it again. And I don't really care about that. And the question is, would you ever try to get it back? Absolutely not. Anyway, goodbye, everyone.

• 1:08:45Doug DeMuro?

  I never, the 360, I, I'm.

• 1:08:47Speaker 06

It's not for, it was a part of your past and you acknowledged that it's an important car in your past. I don't think you'd want your bumper to be a Range Rover back or the Aston or any of those cars.

• 1:08:54Doug DeMuro?

I will say this. I don't care that much about my particular 360 much. I mean, it was actually, in the world of them, it was a pretty good car. It was Russell Corsa, stick 04, which is kind of the car you want. I, I have increased my fondness for the 360 since I, in the, in the ensuing years. I was pretty disappointed with that car. And over the years, I've kind of come to reframe how I view the 360. And I actually think it's a really fun car as long as you go into it, not thinking that you're buying like a super, the specialist supercar ever, which is what I thought. Like, I was like, I'm 22, I'm buying a Ferrari. This is the coolest thing in the world. I'm 25.

• 1:09:28Speaker 06

  Does it? You were 22.

• 1:09:30Doug DeMuro?

And I was like, this is going to be the coolest thing ever. And it's just not like, no possession will ever kind of have that. But if you drive it for what it is, it's actually a pretty fun, fun car. And that's assuming it has a gated manual transmission and three pedals.

• 1:09:40Speaker 06

Which is throwing shade at who is, is a tip. That's F1 Frog.

• 1:09:45Doug DeMuro?

  Kenan wants a Stradale.

• 1:09:47Speaker 06

I do. Oh, man. Yeah, the dream.

• 1:09:49Doug DeMuro?

Filippo, do you have any parting thoughts?

• 1:09:51Speaker 07

Trying to think of any Ferrari that I want.

• 1:09:54Doug DeMuro?

Yeah. What about the 456 Vennett?

• 1:09:56Speaker 06

  Oh, Filippo, wagon Ferrari.

• 1:09:58Doug DeMuro?

You know what the problem is? He doesn't know what it is. If he knew what it was.

• 1:10:01Speaker 07

Of course I know what it is.

• 1:10:02Doug DeMuro?

Of course I know what it is.

• 1:10:04Speaker 07

  I knew that M5 had...

• 1:10:06Doug DeMuro?

He says, "Of course I know what it is." Meanwhile, he doesn't know what I eat. Couldn't tell a Diablo from a Gallardo. He doesn't know what a Lamborghini silhouette is.

• 1:10:14Speaker 06

  That might be true.

• 1:10:14Speaker 07

I know what an Oldsmobile silhouette is.

• 1:10:17Speaker 06

This is the best podcast we've ever done.

• 1:10:19Doug DeMuro?

Best podcast we've ever done. No parting words from Filippo. You're not even gonna tell people to download the app?

• 1:10:23Speaker 07

Oh, yeah. Go download the app. Go to the Apple Store.

• 1:10:26Doug DeMuro?

  Sell your car.

• 1:10:26Speaker 07

App Store on your iPhone and download the Cars of the Month app.

• 1:10:29Doug DeMuro?

You have to go to the App Store on your iPhone?

• 1:10:31Speaker 07

You can't just... That's the easiest way to download it to your iPhone.

• 1:10:33Doug DeMuro?

Can you send the app to your iPhone from a different device?

• 1:10:36Speaker 07

  I don't think so.

• 1:10:37Doug DeMuro?

Apple's got some work to do.

• 1:10:38Speaker 07

  Yeah.

• 1:10:39Speaker 06

  Get on it, Tim.

• 1:10:39Speaker 07

Sure do. But it's a great app. Download it.

• 1:10:41Doug DeMuro?

  You're buying a free one?
