The Chainsmokers: Cheating, Threesomes & Toxic Exes (FBF)

The Chainsmokers join Call Her Daddy to discuss their evolution — and if you love a wild and crazy story-time, this episode is for you. From the start, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart were a match made in heaven - the duo discuss working together for the past 10 years and how prioritizing the success of The Chainsmokers has impacted each of them personally. They don’t hold back when talking about their love lives and share all of their messiest, albeit hilarious, breakup stories. They’ve been spied on with an elaborate pet cam scheme - and caught someone offering herself for availability to get peed on in a Craigslist ad — all for money to score some blow. The guys spill all of the tea on the threesomes they’ve had (“that’s a lot of man”), and reveal if they’ve ever slept with a fan. The pair reflect on failed relationships and gush about their current girlfriends while sharing the personal growth required to get to this point.

Speaker names marked ? are inferred from speaking time and the show’s known hosts — they are not voice-verified.

What is up daddy gang? It is your founding father Alex Cooper with Call Her Daddy.

• 2:21Alex Cooper?

Check your mics, how are you feeling? I want to hear every word. I want to hear the breath. Is that close enough for you?

• 2:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:30Alex Cooper?

  Triple check.

• 2:30Speaker 01

  I'm a heavy breather.

• 2:31Speaker 02

  Is this like too close?

• 2:32Speaker 01

  Not much.

• 2:32Alex Cooper?

  Are you a mouth breather?

• 2:34Speaker 01

Mouth breathing is like a big thing apparently. You know, like, well, actually, like, sorry, like.

• 2:39Speaker 02

  Chewers, mouth chores.

• 2:40Speaker 01

  Nose breathing.

• 2:41Alex Cooper?

  Nose breather?

• 2:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:42Alex Cooper?

I think that's how you're supposed to breathe.

• 2:43Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're supposed to breathe that way, yeah.

• 2:44Alex Cooper?

  Are you a mouth breather?

• 2:45Speaker 01

  No, I'm not.

• 2:46Speaker 02

That'd be a horrible thing to have, like, on the whole, on the tone of the podcast. You're just hearing this.

• 2:53Alex Cooper?

I'm like, okay, we need to mute his mic. Okay, let's just start.

• 2:56Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 2:56Alex Cooper?

Chainsmokers, welcome to Call Her Daddy.

• 2:58Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 2:59Speaker 02

I just got nervous now. I said I wasn't, but now I'm nervous.

• 3:03Alex Cooper?

Alex just shit his pants. He's like, fuck, let me take a drink. Cheers, let's do another cheers. Cheers, guys.

• 3:08Speaker 02

  Cheers.

• 3:09Alex Cooper?

Everybody calm down, everything's gonna be okay. The boys are a little nervous, guys. Daddy gang, be nice to them in the comments.

• 3:15Speaker 01

I wasn't at all, same with Alex, just right until we started and now. You're now you're like professional Alex and.

• 3:20Alex Cooper?

  I'm like, hello.

• 3:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 3:21Speaker 02

  I feel like it's like.

• 3:22Speaker 01

Because I've seen this many times, you know, and.

• 3:24Speaker 02

But like, I'm much more scared of giving like a best man speech than I am performing in front of like thirty thousand people.

• 3:29Speaker 01

  Totally.

• 3:29Alex Cooper?

I think that makes sense though. Isn't there a thing Dave Chappelle does where he only performs in front of like four people in a room before he does it? I think I've heard that. And it's ten times harder to perform in front of like three people than a crowd. Have you done a best man speech recently?

• 3:43Speaker 02

Not that recently, but I killed it, I murdered it, my speech. Because you always got to, the way you start a best man speech and someone tipped me off is you just insult the guy who spoke before you right off the bat.

• 3:53Alex Cooper?

  Oh, that's good.

• 3:53Speaker 02

So you're like, give it, you're like, give it up for John, he did his best. And then everyone immediately is like, ha, ha, you know? And then you're like, and then you can launch into whatever.

• 4:00Speaker 01

So I tried that, my sister got married, uh, like the summer before last, and I tried that trick because Alex had just killed this best man speech. He was telling me how good he did. And then I, you're like, oh, you tried your best, but I said it to like my like female cousin and it like really hurt her feelings.

• 4:15Alex Cooper?

She's like sobbing in the corner like fuck you Drew.

• 4:17Speaker 01

And then she like came over and she was like, do we have beef on something? I was like, I don't know. I just, I just heard it was a good thing to say like.

• 4:22Alex Cooper?

And you just fucked it all up.

• 4:23Speaker 01

You did a great, you had a great speech. I'm sorry.

• 4:25Speaker 02

  Yeah, it was really heartfelt.

• 4:26Alex Cooper?

So, we were supposed to meet in Miami.

• 4:29Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 4:29Alex Cooper?

Well, I feel like we were supposed to meet like so long ago. It's weird that we have never met.

• 4:32Speaker 02

I'm kinda glad that didn't happen, given the nature of Basel. Like, it's just such a shit show. You know what I mean? Like, every morning was like a way too late and...

• 4:40Alex Cooper?

Okay, wait, I wanna ask you guys, cause I was gonna say, what did I miss in Miami? Because to give people context, we were supposed to do this interview in Miami.

• 4:47Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 4:47Alex Cooper?

I got sick. Maybe I was faking. Maybe I wa- no, I'm just kidding. I was sick. And I couldn't make it.

• 4:52Speaker 01

  Either way.

• 4:53Alex Cooper?

What did I miss? What did you guys, what, what did you guys do?

• 4:54Speaker 01

We definitely thought about it if you were...

• 4:56Speaker 02

It's such a shit show. I used to be like a receptionist in an art gallery and we, and, and I would go to Basel. This is like fifteen years ago. And you would go to Basel and it was like one party, the liberal one party, and then it was actually just like collectors and people that worked in the art world. And it was like, really fun, but like really manageable. And now, like, I've never see, I don't know where the art people are. I don't see them at all. And it's just like craziness. And there's so much shit and everyone's has FOMO and, you know, like you'll be, I remember being at, I think it was like my, you know, like Miles and Kago and those guys. They had a party and it was like awesome. It was like Black Coffee was DJing. It was an open bar. It was a bunch of friends. And then everyone's like, we gotta go to this Bob's party. And I was like, but why? I was like, we, the, this is great here. Everything's great. And they're like, no, no, it's better over there for sure. And I was like, I feel like the people over there are saying that this is the...

• 5:41Alex Cooper?

Same thing. Everyone's like chasing the night. It's like fashion week. It's like, we have to go to ten events. And it's like, like, this party's kinda dope. Like, let's chill.

• 5:47Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. Let me just stay here. And it's just like, you're constantly missing and feeling like you're, you know, and reality, it's like, none of it's true.

• 5:54Alex Cooper?

So, how did you guys meet? You guys have been together for ten years. This is a thriving relationship, Drew. How did you guys meet?

• 6:00Speaker 01

We met, uh, I was finishing school in two thousand twelve, two thousand eleven. And Alex had actually started chain smokers with another kid. So, I'm not the original chain smoker.

• 6:12Alex Cooper?

  Oh my god, where's he?

• 6:13Speaker 02

  He's a dog walker.

• 6:16Speaker 01

  Well, that was last time.

• 6:17Speaker 02

Fuck, this is, I hope he doesn't watch the show.

• 6:20Alex Cooper?

Shout out, okay, so there was an OG.

• 6:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:22Alex Cooper?

And then you came in and swapped.

• 6:24Speaker 01

Well, from my understanding, the other kid didn't want it, wanted to go and do his own like solo career. And Alex was like, what the fuck, like, uh, we built this whole thing up and.

• 6:32Speaker 02

It wasn't much, by the way, it was like DJing and like SL, you know what I mean?

• 6:35Alex Cooper?

  But it was something.

• 6:36Speaker 02

  But it was something, yeah.

• 6:36Speaker 01

Yeah, and, and I like knew how to make music, like, pretty shitty music, but I like was really into it. And, uh, and then we met and he, the other kid left and he was like, I want to find someone who like makes music. And we got introduced by our manager, our current manager who's still with us to this day and yeah, rest is history.

• 6:54Alex Cooper?

Did you guys like immediately hit it off vibe wise, personality wise?

• 6:57Speaker 02

Didn't you have a funny, like, you didn't know which one?

• 6:59Speaker 01

Oh, my God, so I go, so I go to New York City, I take like the, the Feng Hua bus, you know about this? Yeah, yeah, it's like thirteen dollar bus that goes from like Boston to Chinatown, so I take that thing down there. Um, and I like go and meet them at this club, but I didn't know, I knew there were two guys in Chainsmokers and they were both there and I didn't know which was which. And I remember just going to the club and, and meeting, and both of y'all, and I was just like, oh, God, I hope it's Alex. Like, the other kid was okay, but I really hope it's Alex and, and thank God he, he texted me and I didn't even know because he texted me the next day and was like, come over to my apartment. And not until you opened the door to your apartment did I have confirmation it was you.

• 7:33Speaker 02

It's like a blind date and it was like, what do you listen to? And I was like, I like Calvin Harris. It was like, me too, you know, what kind of beer do you drink? And it was like, and but like in reality, what was really crazy is we did have this like conversation the first time we met was, you know, we were like, what do you want to accomplish and how do you want to get there? And we were like, both of us were like, we want to be the biggest, you know, artist on the planet and we'll take, do whatever it takes to get there from like a work perspective and, and then I want to branch out from there and create and use that platform to like get into other things that interest us. And, you know, it's like kind of crazy now to look, reflect back on that because like, we had no fucking idea back then. It was like literally like, cool, let's, let's do this then. And then he moved down from, you know, Maine. And I like quit my receptionist job and they were like, are you crazy?

• 8:14Speaker 02

It's like a recession right now, like you want to, you know, like go be a musician full time? And they were like, listen, we'll have you back, you know, when this fails. And now it's like nuts, like I buy art from them and it's like, you know what I mean?

• 8:25Alex Cooper?

That's so crazy because it's kind of like a love story, honestly. We're like, you've been together for ten years. You guys met on a blind date, like, and then you ended up being in front of him and you were like, I really hope it's him and not the other one. And then you guys got matched up and you made this like perfect, perfect situation. Like, it all worked out. So, okay, to people that are watching, I want them to like get to know you guys better individually through each other's eyes.

• 8:51Speaker 01

  Should I leave the room?

• 8:52Alex Cooper?

No, no, because you guys are, you guys are a couple, but I want to hear, let's start with Alex. How would you describe Drew to someone that doesn't know him?

• 9:02Speaker 02

Um, so he likes to go like deeper with things and I'm like, uh, I don't want to say I'm surface level, but I like to cover a lot more ground. He is like the least communicative person on the planet. In fact, like, I think I like text Madison Beer about a song yesterday and I was like, hey, it's Alex. I got your number from Drew because he sucks at texting. So like, I'm, you know, gonna, uh, and it's not that like he doesn't care. He just does. I don't know what, actually I don't know what goes on in my head. Yeah, like you see it and you're just like, uh, you know, and you just like move on.

• 9:30Alex Cooper?

Like are you quiet? What do you mean you're not communicative?

• 9:32Speaker 01

Well, I read things, but Alex is also hyper communicative. So a lot of these conversations that like I'm on an email or I'm on a text thread. He's already said what I'm, would have said, so.

• 9:41Speaker 02

  True.

• 9:41Alex Cooper?

Do you guys find yourself on the same page a lot?

• 9:44Speaker 02

  Yeah, most of the time.

• 9:45Speaker 01

Yeah, we're completely aligned like in like goals and all that stuff.

• 9:48Speaker 02

We've had our disputes, but it's always like, uh, you know, reconciled in a really like reasonable way.

• 9:53Alex Cooper?

You did walk into my house and say that you guys have gotten into multiple fistfights and punched each other.

• 9:58Speaker 01

Not in a couple of years, though.

• 9:59Speaker 02

Yeah, it's been a couple of years. Which might mean we're due for one, but it's been a.

• 10:03Alex Cooper?

So you guys are just fighting over like regular shit, but you guys have an ability.

• 10:06Speaker 01

It's like sibling fights, you know, where you're just together all the time.

• 10:10Speaker 02

Like over front seat in like Mexico, like eight years ago.

• 10:12Speaker 01

I don't remember even being mad at you. I think that was just, we were like, hey, we've never fought. All right, let's fight.

• 10:17Speaker 02

In, uh, what's that, Mallorca at a club.

• 10:19Speaker 01

That was bad. You know, it wasn't just that. He had been pissing me off for a while, you know? And I'm sure I've been pissing him off for a while, you know? And then it just gets to that one moment.

• 10:28Alex Cooper?

  Yeah, it was building.

• 10:29Speaker 01

He just does the one thing and I was, I lost. I initiate, I think, every fight. I also.

• 10:34Alex Cooper?

Wow, so are you hot headed?

• 10:35Speaker 01

Not anymore, but I definitely was.

• 10:37Alex Cooper?

  You've worked on it.

• 10:38Speaker 01

No, yeah, I've worked on it. Therapy and stuff.

• 10:40Alex Cooper?

  Oh, you've gone to therapy?

• 10:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:41Alex Cooper?

Have you guys ever gone to therapy together?

• 10:43Speaker 01

Uh, no, we've considered doing like executive coaching, but not, not therapy.

• 10:48Alex Cooper?

Maybe couples therapy is the move.

• 10:50Speaker 01

Well, now I feel like really like.

• 10:52Speaker 02

  Yeah, we don't have like.

• 10:53Alex Cooper?

  Issues.

• 10:54Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 10:55Alex Cooper?

You think that, but as, as a woman that's standing here that used to have, being a duo.

• 11:00Speaker 02

Did you go to a couple of therapy when you, when you?

• 11:01Alex Cooper?

No, but we should have, apparently. You can always get ahead of it.

• 11:05Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 11:05Alex Cooper?

Okay, Drew, now you describe Alex's personality.

• 11:09Speaker 01

Um, he's hilarious. Like, I, sometimes I'll just be like making a drink and we'll be, you know, just talking to somebody and I'll just overhear him just say the most outlandish thing to people. I don't know where it comes from. He also is like the most, no filter, and also the most insane memory. Like, he will like remember, well, like, we meet so many people every weekend. We're doing like, we've been doing a hundred and fifty shows a year for the past seven years, probably. Sometimes more even, and a lot of those are in Vegas where we're like hosting people for our tequila or our venture fund or people that we've just accumulated along the years. And someone will walk in and he'll just like, he'll remember like, I, I will be like, I recognize this guy's face. I can't place it. He'll remember that their kids are in tennis lessons.

• 11:52Alex Cooper?

  Holy.

• 11:53Speaker 01

  It's insane.

• 11:53Speaker 02

  Weird.

• 11:54Alex Cooper?

So he's a good person to have next to you because I'm you where I'm like, I fucking know that face, but I couldn't even tell you the name if you put a gun to my head and you're like, oh, it's this person. They have this many kids. They, this is the address.

• 12:04Speaker 02

But then I'm the one that's like, all right, I'm kind of like done this tonight. And Drew would be like, I just like stayed up till six AM with that guy. Now we're like.

• 12:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:11Speaker 02

Like ki- like brothers. And so it's like.

• 12:13Speaker 01

I go, I go deep with like one person or three people, whatever. Yeah.

• 12:16Alex Cooper?

  This is helpful.

• 12:17Speaker 02

I'm definitely like way more like, I, I, I don't know what the word is. I guess it just depends.

• 12:22Alex Cooper?

  You're a surface level bitch.

• 12:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:25Alex Cooper?

And Drew is just in his field.

• 12:27Speaker 01

He's like, I don't know if anyone texts any more, like more people than you per day.

• 12:30Alex Cooper?

  What?

• 12:31Speaker 01

He's like talking to like, you know, the head of some like massive like hedge fund and he's talking to like the bartender from the dueling piano bar in St. Louis that we played on a Wednesday night in two thousand thirteen.

• 12:42Speaker 02

Definitely like an OCD thing, for sure.

• 12:43Alex Cooper?

Okay. And you're not answering your texts. At all.

• 12:45Speaker 01

Exactly. I've fully taken advantage of his powers.

• 12:49Alex Cooper?

That's really great. What are your fans like?

• 12:51Speaker 02

Passive and chill. We have like the most like relaxed, nice fans ever. Like, like we could just sit at like anywhere and like, I, I think we have like a really nice level of, of like celebrity or fame, we want to call it, cause like, maybe some people recognize us. Usually it's like they have to pull their phone out to like confirm the, the sighting.

• 13:12Speaker 02

Or they'll just come up and be like, hey, big fan. And they just like dip out. You know what I mean? Like, we don't have like any like rabid, you know, crazy story. I, I've told this fake story for like years about, cause we didn't have a fake, crazy fake fan story. And that was like what people always asked us. So I just, came up with one.

• 13:29Alex Cooper?

  Tell me.

• 13:29Speaker 02

And I lied about it for like seven years and I could be so good at telling it. I haven't told it in a while, but basically it was a story about, we played a show in Italy. And there was this fan in the front row that was like dead, you know, stone cold staring at both of us and was like really awkward. And then in the middle of the show, she pulls out like a buzzer and just starts shaving her head, but like not changing her reaction. And then she starts eating her hair. And then we're like freaking out and we're like losing our focus. And then she's kind of just like disappears into the crowd and.

• 13:57Alex Cooper?

And no one was like, huh?

• 14:00Speaker 01

He told us in every interview, it made it all the way to, um.

• 14:03Speaker 02

  Larry King?

• 14:03Speaker 01

Larry King. He told Larry, Larry King this story.

• 14:05Alex Cooper?

And what the fuck are you, did you guys coordinate this? Or did one day he just spring this in an interview and you were like, uh huh?

• 14:11Speaker 01

Made it up one day and we just kept going with it.

• 14:13Alex Cooper?

  And you didn't say anything?

• 14:14Speaker 01

  No.

• 14:14Speaker 02

It was just easier than the like, you know, like I just didn't have one and I just wanted to.

• 14:18Alex Cooper?

  Right.

• 14:18Speaker 02

  Just go along.

• 14:19Speaker 01

  I wanted an awesome story.

• 14:20Alex Cooper?

Do you have one now? Is there like a crazy fan or act, interaction you can now tell or no?

• 14:26Speaker 02

I just, fans are so pleasant and passive. They're just like, I don't, I will, you know.

• 14:29Alex Cooper?

  No, that's fine.

• 14:30Speaker 02

Any fans out there want to do some crazy?

• 14:33Alex Cooper?

  Yeah, like get after it.

• 14:34Speaker 02

  Yeah, go, go for it.

• 14:35Alex Cooper?

I think you're very fortunate though, to be, to have.

• 14:37Speaker 02

Do you have crazy fans? Like girls go to?

• 14:39Alex Cooper?

Yeah, like I have some crazy interactions I've had, like.

• 14:42Speaker 02

Are girls crazier or guys crazier for you?

• 14:45Alex Cooper?

It's a different vibe. The guys are always Barstool fans. So they're like Cooper and I'm like, oh my God. And they'll like bear hug me and I'm like, hello, sir. And it's like, it's very like

• 14:56Speaker 01

Have you ever hooked up with a fan?

• 14:58Alex Cooper?

No, because most of my fans are women, but I have had

• 15:02Speaker 01

  Barstool guys are like

• 15:04Alex Cooper?

No, I'm like, I'm like, oh, like you go hook up with Dave. Um, I've had, I've had multiple times where like a fan will chase me down and like, give me a vibrator or like just something very, and like I still use it to this day and I think of her like, it's very cute. Like, but my, I would say my fans are kind of similar. They're very chill, very passionate, but they're open books to me and like, we have like very cute interactions.

• 15:24Speaker 01

A podcast is very different because you're speaking about yourself so much and getting deeper into yourself by talking about with other people. You see reflection and all that stuff. Like us, we just, they just hear our music and we're just two generic white guys. So they know the music, but it doesn't go beyond that, you know?

• 15:41Alex Cooper?

But that's why it's fun to sit down with you guys. You would probably be great on a podcast. You want to get deep?

• 15:46Speaker 01

I'm definitely going to launch a podcast. Oh, I'm sure. I'm waiting for it. I just need more time, but it's gonna happen.

• 15:50Alex Cooper?

I could see you guys doing a pod.

• 15:52Speaker 01

It's gonna be dark and dangerous.

• 15:53Alex Cooper?

  Oh, my God.

• 15:54Speaker 01

  I'm not gonna be there.

• 15:55Alex Cooper?

You don't want to be on it?

• 15:56Speaker 01

I don't have the It's gonna be controversial. I'm not consistent enough to do it.

• 15:59Alex Cooper?

Okay, great. You don't have to work out then.

• 16:00Speaker 01

His is gonna be like, yeah.

• 16:02Alex Cooper?

  It's gonna be good.

• 16:02Speaker 01

  It'll be good.

• 16:03Alex Cooper?

  I'll listen.

• 16:03Speaker 01

  One day.

• 16:04Alex Cooper?

  Maybe.

Call Her Daddy is brought to you by Airbnb. Okay, I am well into my third trimester now, so I haven't really been able to travel because I need to stay close to my doctor. But spending all this time at home has made me start thinking about all the places that I want to go once the baby is here. I have literally been sitting on my couch with the TV on, scrolling through Airbnb and planning trips. I am nowhere ready to take yet, but suddenly my vacation priorities, I will say, are completely different. Like, does the house have enough bedrooms? Is there a big kitchen? Does the furniture look baby safe? Or is every table covered in, you know, sharp corners? And obviously, we need an extra room for my

• 19:59Alex Cooper?

Okay, Alex, take me through your guys' like pre-show rituals. And like, how has it evolved over time?

• 20:07Speaker 02

It, not much. You know what I mean? It's not like, I feel like the thing about for us at these shows is like, you don't want to like build up too much like tension and pressure. It's almost like do the least and just like, oh, it's just like a normal day that happens to have like a huge performance at the end of it. So like the more that, like when we have big shows and like our whole team's there and there were lots of friends. It's like, almost like builds up more anxiety because everyone's like asking you like, are you nervous? Like, are you excited? How are you feeling? Like, you just feel more tension around you. So for us, it's like, you know, a warm up, like drinking some tequila backstage, like maybe workout earlier in the day or something like that. We have like a simple pre-ritual handshake and it's like gay time, but I feel like less-

• 20:46Alex Cooper?

Can you do it right now?

• 20:47Speaker 02

Yeah, it's just, it's that. And it's just like-

• 20:50Alex Cooper?

  Oh, wow.

• 20:50Speaker 02

Super simple. Yeah, you can learn-

• 20:52Alex Cooper?

  Really simple.

• 20:52Speaker 02

Yeah, more like it's a superstitious thing that you have to do it.

• 20:55Alex Cooper?

When you guys are getting nervous for a show, do you guys really lean on each other? Or do you guys go kind of like individual mode? Like, I like, just like sit there individually and deal with your stress?

• 21:06Speaker 02

I feel like it's kind of like, I don't know. I feel like we don't share necessarily like how nervous you are because that probably just makes other, everyone more nervous. But I think, you know, like in the case of like Vegas, I mean, this is a weird example, but like if I'm exhausted and you can see it, like he'll step up and go harder. And like vice versa, or you know what I mean? In that, in that sense, so you can kind of tell when someone needs like, yeah, yeah. Like needs like, okay, like he's just clearly like, you know, sick right now.

• 21:32Speaker 01

Like like we do play sick all the time. I think we've only canceled one show ever. And you know, and you're just like, all right, I'm gonna pick up the slack and like give a little bit extra today. So like, cause he clearly just, you know, is struggling.

• 21:43Alex Cooper?

This is a real team unit here. I'm really liking the vibe.

• 21:46Speaker 01

It's very cool. It really is. Cause like, it's like, you know, the same way. I feel like when girls can like look and look at each other and like communicate like everything and then guys are just sitting there clueless about what just happened.

• 21:56Alex Cooper?

Right. You guys are the ones insane.

• 21:58Speaker 01

Yeah. And they're like, we should probably go. And you're like, what? What did you just say to her?

• 22:03Alex Cooper?

That's such a specific and so fucking relatable of just being like, yeah, we're actually gonna go. And you guys are like, excuse me? That was a good example. So in 2019, you guys, after a tour, went off of like the grid and you kind of went on a hiatus. What the fuck happened? How did you come to this decision? Tell me about it.

• 22:24Speaker 01

Uh, well, we just felt really burnt out after 2019. I mean, I told you, we've been doing like 150 shows a year. We had just like released our third album in the fall of 2019 and then we did a 42 city arena tour with Five Sauce. And we just got home. We're like, never again. Like that was just too much after like a whole summer of like back and forth from Vegas to Europe, Vegas to Europe every week.

• 22:50Alex Cooper?

There's two people that are making the decisions. How do you guys balance what's good for you individually and then what's good for the Chainsmokers?

• 23:02Speaker 01

I mean, we've been pretty on on the same page in our personal lives. Like we made a lot of sacrifices. And this is a big thing that we've been talking with our team about now that we're in our 30s, like well into our 30s and it's harder, you know? And there's a lot of, we haven't gone to a lot of weddings. We haven't been here on weekends ever. You know, we haven't, we've like every, you know, we sacrifice our weeks just, you know, we like last week, two days were just erased being on a plane, you know? And so I think we've been really aligned on that thus far. You know, we've just been trying to get it and be successful and and do our thing and and not leave anything on the table. And I'm really thankful that we took that approach, but. I mean, going forward, we definitely will have to be more communicative about like, hey,

• 23:45Speaker 01

I don't wanna be in LA this much, or I don't wanna go to Vegas this much, or I don't wanna do, and who knows what that's gonna be, but like, our lives are changing. So that's like a new hurdle that's probably coming for us.

• 23:55Speaker 02

Yeah, it's it's tough, cuz I think you gotta balance, like, you can't forget like how lucky we are to be in this position to begin with, and it's like, I see so many people like, taking advantage of that opportunity and letting it just slip between their fingers because they think it's just like, it's hard work, like, there are people, hundreds, thousands of people, tens of thousands of people out there that are trying to do what we do, and they're working three times as hard as we are potentially. So I think like, we've always had that like grit and determination, like, we might not always be the best at the certain things we do, but like, I know we apply ourselves and work harder than most people at things we care about, so I think it's ingrained in like the fabric of our personalities, which is like, we're super competitive, like, we wanna be the best, wanna get the best out of ourselves.

• 24:37Alex Cooper?

  Yeah.

• 24:37Speaker 02

And we also like, I I feel like if I just ran into you somewhere in the street and you were like, hey, you know, oh my god, like, do you feel accomplished, everything? I would be say like, absolutely not, like, we have like, very heavy imposter syndrome. So for us, it's like, we feel like we're just kind of also getting started and have so much more to do and say from what this, you know, chapter is, but you also, you know, like, you do wanna start thinking about the other things in life that like, you possibly can get joy out of, cuz it's like, these are probably all like really unhealthy character traits that like, lead to, you know, a life looking back at like seventy being like, oh my god, like,

• 25:11Alex Cooper?

What the fuck do you do?

• 25:12Speaker 02

  Yeah, like, three vacations.

• 25:13Speaker 01

  Carrot all the way here.

• 25:14Speaker 02

Yeah, exactly. But also, there's like a balance where like, you can really potentially accomplish really amazing things.

• 25:20Alex Cooper?

I get what you're saying, but it's interesting to hear you because like, I feel like there's so many people that have success, and you're so scared to be like, wanting the normal things that come with life, that you're like, I haven't been to a wedding in a while, like, I wasn't in LA for like a weekend, just like chill, and you can, in your mind, you're like, I, am I being ungrateful, like, am I coming off like I don't appreciate what I have? But I do think, like, I understand what you're saying of like, there needs to be sometimes a better balance, but that also is fucking weird, because again, I've been in a duo where it's like, inevitably, you both have different wants for like, your personal life, right? Like, maybe you have a different plan of like, do you both want kids? Do you not want kids? Do you wanna get married? And so like,

• 26:03Alex Cooper?

you kinda have to stay somewhat on the same page, like, how do you guys navigate that?

• 26:09Speaker 02

It just worked out kind of in some weird way. I mean, we are very communicative about those things. And I think like, we want the happiness of the other person. So it's like, you know, we've gotten this far. I don't think we were like, we wanted, you know, we've always been aligned on the goals we wanted to get and how to achieve them like. But at the same time, it's like, you know, as you get older, you're kind of like, hey, I recognize like all of our friends, like all my friends are married with kids. Like, I'm probably the last person other than like our agent.

• 26:35Alex Cooper?

But do you guys feel like, because it's interesting, like to have your job, which is partying and performing and like making people have such a good time. Do you feel like people or maybe like media has kind of pigeonholed you into being the same people you were 10 years ago?

• 26:52Speaker 02

We have a great relationship with the media, I'm impressed.

• 26:55Alex Cooper?

You said that so serious at first. I was like, really Alex? Oh my god. No, talk about that.

• 27:01Speaker 02

  Glowing reviews.

• 27:02Alex Cooper?

How did it evolve of like who the Chainsmokers started as from your opinion and who you guys are now?

• 27:08Speaker 02

Uh, yeah, I mean, we were just ultimately huge. That, that opinion about like the being pigeonholed, I think is, was DJ as, or EDM as a whole. You know, we came up in this like super party centric, uh, very drug centric like scene, you know, that's like kind of pop probably I'd say like 2016. Um, but that was like a whole, that was a wave that we rode to like relevancy, I guess. We were young, you know what I mean? It's like you make mistakes and I think, you know, uh, much start, you know, regret, like we've grown up a ton and, and like, there's a lot of things we regret doing, but I think that's just like a natural progression for anyone. I think there are a lot of mistakes we avoided too by like, I think we kind of were lucky. We went, both went to college and graduated and, and like didn't have like

• 27:53Speaker 02

success at 18 and become super rich and that stuff. Like we understand the value of a dollar and like working in shitty jobs and doing, you know, putting in the time.

• 28:02Alex Cooper?

I can relate to that. Like I feel like I had obviously like a very specific persona when I started this. It was like the sex girl. That's the blonde that works at Barstool and it was like I definitely played into what I was given and the platform that I was kind of like going with. But then it can get exhausting and be like, hey, guys, like, I don't party like every night and like I don't like have sex every single day like 24/7 like. So I think I can relate to you guys on being like, I appreciate how we came up, but like we've evolved like we definitely have certain things that are different about us that it's not just party, drugs, perform, fuck girls and go to sleep. Not to get too deep, but like on more of a personal level, how have each of you like individually, I'll start with you Drew, like,

• 28:47Alex Cooper?

evolved as a human being since the beginning of the success and everything took off to where you are now?

• 28:55Speaker 01

Uh, I've calmed down a lot. I used to be hyper insecure and I'm still have insecurities, but like, so much so that like it drove me and I'm almost thankful for it. And I always like, had this like thing inside me that wanted to be successful and just kind of, you know, do everything, but be friends with everybody. And, you know, I had this like idea and, I was always chasing that and I was always worried that I was never gonna do it. And I feel like that like, probably like negatively impacted some like relationships I had early like through college. I just didn't, you know, you know, I was so focused on what I was doing. Um, and I, I wasn't able to be like generous or I didn't have the, you know,

• 29:34Speaker 01

the mindset to like be, be the person that I am now that I'm, I really appreciate. Uh, and I'd say that's probably the biggest thing is, you know, I've really enjoyed, just being calm and appreciative and being able to like, you know, help people with opportunities that.

• 29:49Speaker 02

He really is insanely generous to everybody and hosting people. It's actually crazy how, yeah. It's like a hostel.

• 29:57Alex Cooper?

You live in a hostel or you host a hostel? Cause are you kind of saying like in romantic relationships or I guess even friendships, like, you couldn't be as present and giving because you were trying to be selfish because you were trying to make something for yourself?

• 30:09Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:10Alex Cooper?

  That makes sense.

• 30:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 30:11Alex Cooper?

  What about you, Alex?

• 30:13Speaker 02

I don't know. I was trying to think of a good, like reasonable answer to this while he was talking.

• 30:18Alex Cooper?

  Pretty good.

• 30:18Speaker 02

Yeah, it was pretty good. I mean, I, I guess if I could like reflect further back, I mean, my dad passed away and I was like, 12 and a half or something like that. And I think that was like very defining moments. I remember a lot of people, coming to me and being like, there's two paths, you know, you can kind of go that like, fucked up route where you lose a parent and everything kind of spirals out of control from there, or you kind of, use this as like a. Moment to catalyze like how you want to live your life and I was always like an average student and had like terrible ADHD and I don't remember like at some point in like late in high school, I don't know if I just started making lists, like really something simple of that is like writing the things down that I want to accomplish and do. Oh my god, these kids lists. And it just like something changed and I do feel like, you know, in a lot of ways like in

• 31:00Speaker 02

college, you know, when I graduated, I was like, was a receptionist, art gallery, not a very like awesome position to have, like they, and I was not a good one in that and, and then also like a DJ and I think about like my mom and my friends that were all becoming like doctors and Wall Street finance people and, and lawyers and it was kind of like crippling anxiety of being like, I can barely take care of myself, like who would ever want to be with me, like how could I ever have a family, like I literally am like stealing quarters from my roommate to get like Boston Market and I mean like, yeah, he had a lot of quarters, so I didn't feel bad and, and, and, and just like, you know, and, and it was like crazy, so like when, to see like us kind of materialize this thing, it was like, holy shit, like, I actually for the first time ever like can

• 31:45Speaker 02

take like a deep breath on some way and be like, things might actually be okay for me and work out and I'm just super proud of like the things we've accomplished through, over the years and it just really motivates me to want to like, just push it further and further.

• 31:59Alex Cooper?

Well, I appreciate you both sharing that because it is interesting to hear individually and it now makes sense to me how you guys work so well together. That's why I was kind of trying to like get, and I still want to keep going, just individual to then get back to the whole because it's interesting, I feel like both of you had such a good drive internally wanting to make it. I'm interested to know like, how has that affected your like relationships for you romantically because the Chainsmokers has to be priority? How do, how has that affected your guys' relationships?

• 32:32Speaker 01

That's been, I realized like looking back as times as 2020 like a lot of the people I dated, I had to date someone that was uh down with what we were doing. Um, which is, which was really fun. I had a lot of awesome relationships that like were seriously fulfilling and fun. Um, I think only in the past like couple of years have I like realized that probably the person that's like down to do, they have to be down to do some stuff, but the person who's down to do everything is probably not the one I'm supposed to be with. I need someone that has their own thing that I will have to go be a part of and want to go be a part of. Uh, but before that it's been, you know, I realized my selection has been very congruent with like what

• 33:17Speaker 01

served our business, you know? And we work really hard and I think we're both now really actively, I mean you for a little bit longer than me, like really trying to break out of our own heads and, and have perspective and be like, wait, this week is so intense. Wait, every week's intense. And if every week's intense, then I need to figure out a better way to deal with it because this, what am I chasing, you know?

• 33:38Alex Cooper?

Yeah. Have either of you ever gone through a breakup that the catalyst was kind of like, this isn't working for our life right now as the chain smokers. Like this relationship isn't working for us essentially.

• 33:52Speaker 02

I mean, I don't think we have influence. I feel like that's one of those funny things. Like you could not like someone's girlfriend, but like you know not, you don't say that shit. You know what I mean? Like out of the blue, like if he's upset about something, then it's an opportunity to speak. You know what I mean? But don't be like, yo, I hate your chick. And you're just like, great. Well, you want to go to dinner like tomorrow night, all of us? Yeah, yeah, double day. And, and not that like that's ever even been the case, but like, I think, you know, like everyone's on their own journey through these things. And I don't know like all the intricacies of what like he loves or you know, about someone and vice versa. I think again, like why we'd never lived together, like certain things are good to be, you know, kept separate. But like more importantly, it's just like, you can tell what also when the other person is suffering

• 34:32Speaker 02

as a result of the relationship. And it's like a delicate balance of being like, you gotta let them get there themselves. You can't. For someone to see that truth.

• 34:40Alex Cooper?

  Yeah, I get that.

• 34:42Speaker 02

Uh, but, but like also at the same time, it's like, you know, it's tough when that's happening because you do feel it like potentially affecting, you know, the business, but, but you're like, but again, it's like, there are bigger things at play here. So like, again, like the ego doesn't come in the check and you're not like busting the studio being like, your fucking songwriting sucks like, you know what I mean? Like, why are you so depressed all the time? Uh, you know, we're not making music and uh,

• 35:03Speaker 01

  Songwriting sucks these days.

• 35:05Alex Cooper?

  Although I'm sure Heartbreak.

• 35:06Speaker 02

You're too happy in your relationship.

• 35:08Speaker 01

  It's a great, it's a great catalyst.

• 35:09Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:10Alex Cooper?

That is like, that's toxic though, because I had sometimes where I was like, I'll just go on the date because it's going to give me great content. And I was like,

• 35:16Speaker 02

Like things aren't going well, you're like.

• 35:17Alex Cooper?

Right. Yeah. You're like, let's go. This song is going to be fucking killer.

• 35:20Speaker 02

  Yeah, exactly.

• 35:22Alex Cooper?

So depressed, get broken up with, like do something and then get in the fucking studio. So you said you're in a relationship.

• 35:27Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 35:28Alex Cooper?

How long have you been in a relationship?

• 35:29Speaker 02

About three years, maybe a little longer, three and a half. Yeah, yeah. She's great. Really good. I mean, she's amazing. And I think to like his point, what he said, like, you kind of acknowledged somehow, I feel like a lot of the people you dated are kind of a reaction to the last person in some ways, like looking for things that were missing or didn't fill you in some capacity. And you kind of like stumble along potentially until you kind of unlock something where you're like, oh, I get what I like, what I, what I really need now out of this.

• 35:55Alex Cooper?

You guys have very full lives and like you're public and you know, I feel like you need someone that's not just like up your ass being like, Drew and Alex, like I'll do whatever you want. It's like, I'm sure at times that's worked because you need someone that's going to be doing that. But in actual relationship, the person needs to be like, Hey, it's all about you.

• 36:12Speaker 02

  Yeah, you don't just.

• 36:13Alex Cooper?

Like I have a life too.

• 36:14Speaker 02

You just don't fucking know. Like, you know what I mean? Like I really sympathize like with single people and people in bad relationships and you know, like it's not easy.

• 36:21Alex Cooper?

What about you, Drew? Single, relationship?

• 36:24Speaker 01

  Uh, I'm in a relationship.

• 36:25Alex Cooper?

  Okay.

• 36:26Speaker 01

It's like fairly new, a couple of months.

• 36:28Alex Cooper?

It's exciting. How'd you guys meet?

• 36:29Speaker 01

We got set up on a date. A year ago.

• 36:33Alex Cooper?

  Fun.

• 36:33Speaker 01

And it was the worst date either of us had ever been on.

• 36:36Alex Cooper?

  Not fun?

• 36:37Speaker 01

Yeah, it was just like zero vibes, just misconnection. And didn't see each other for, I think like six months after that. And then last summer, just kept running into each other. And then the bad day become, became like a fun conversation point. And we like hit it off on like the fourth of July and then started hanging out then ish in August. And then started dating, I guess like September, probably.

• 37:03Alex Cooper?

Look at the two of you just in like your healthy dynamics.

• 37:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:07Alex Cooper?

Have either of you ever not liked the other person's partner?

• 37:11Speaker 02

  For sure. Yeah.

• 37:13Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 37:13Speaker 02

  For sure.

• 37:14Alex Cooper?

  How did you handle it?

• 37:15Speaker 01

The, I think Alex kind of touched on it earlier where you can't say, yo, this is like not right for you. Out of context, it has to be, something has to happen and you know, one of us comes to the other and says.

• 37:28Speaker 02

But you know, I mean, like you know, and you're always like hoping to be like, he'll understand.

• 37:32Speaker 01

And we've all seen it now. We're like so intimate with our entire crew. We've seen like every like from our tour manager to our drummer, to our like, our, our agent. We've seen them all date the wrong person and like we've all taken our like little trip down that road. And it's funny because when it's happening to somebody else, you're like, that's never gonna happen to me. And then it shows up in a different format. And boom, it happens to you. Yeah.

• 37:55Speaker 02

And while you're in that format, it's like you know, you're like, yo, fucking, they hate her. And you know, but you're like, but you're like, they just don't know her yet. Like I know her. And then you're like, no, they do really know her and I'm just wrong about this.

• 38:07Alex Cooper?

Like that's the worst when you're in a relationship where when you find yourself saying that if anyone is watching this and you're like, they just don't get it. That's probably the first red flag to be like, no, they get it. You don't fucking get it.

• 38:18Speaker 01

And that's the thing. It's like you look about a lot, a lot of relationships and you know, you can blame the other per-. You just, it wasn't a match. It wasn't the right time. It wasn't, it's not them. It's not you.

• 38:27Speaker 02

I have great breakup stories. I mean, there's all sorts of awesome things.

• 38:29Alex Cooper?

  Do you want to share?

• 38:30Speaker 02

Anonymously. I mean, should I give the ultimate one?

• 38:34Alex Cooper?

Give something. You guys are saying a little lightly, sure.

• 38:37Speaker 01

Give the, the, uh, the pet cam.

• 38:40Speaker 02

Yeah, the pet cam is good.

• 38:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:41Speaker 02

Is that, is that the ultimate one?

• 38:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:42Alex Cooper?

  Okay, give it to me.

• 38:59Alex Cooper?

Okay, so I was seeing somebody and, you know, over the course of the relationship, it was just like all these fights kept happening that I didn't really like understand why. Like I would just get like a text when we were like on tour and be like, "You're a fucking asshole." And I'd be like, "I don't know what I could have possibly have just done." And, and it would be like, "You know what you did." And I'd be like, "No, I'm ask-" like, "That's why I'm asking you, what did I do?" And it was just like, and then she would disappear for two days. And it was just like the most unhe- you know, and you're just like, "I don't know what's happening." Like, I feel like I'm losing my mind. And one day, I've lived, you know, this, my friend of mine Craig, he's like an ex firefighter and uh, he's kind of the ma- he's like Uncle Craig and uh, and-

• 41:23Alex Cooper?

  Uncle Craig.

• 41:24Speaker 01

Yeah, he's a very Uncle Craig.

• 41:25Speaker 02

And, you know, I forgot how we got in a fight about something and I was like, and it was a sort of thing where I was like, like, you know, when we were, you know, it's like looking through Instagram and being like, "Oh damn, that girl's like super hot." Man, I'd be like, "Wish, I wish on a star." And, you know, and then like, and then like the girlfriend would be like, "What the fuck did you say?"

• 41:43Speaker 01

That's not what we say. "I wish on a star." It's not what we say.

• 41:45Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. It's a really PC way of, you know-

• 41:48Alex Cooper?

  "I wish on a star."

• 41:49Speaker 02

  "I wish on a star I could-"

• 41:50Alex Cooper?

"I could hang out with that beautiful, nice, smart woman."

• 41:54Speaker 02

Yeah. But like, you know, it's like guy talk where you'd be like, "Damn, that girl's, you know, ass is amazing," or whatever. And then like, I got lit up about this. And I like told my, I went to Craig and I was like, "Craig, did you fucking tell her that we were saying it?" Like, you know, how like, like, we're just like talking about this, how hot this girl is? And he was like, "Of course not, of ki- kidding me, why would I do that?" And I was like, "How else would she have known?" Like, this is just weird. And he was, and it was like in passing and he was just like, "House is bugged dude." And I was like, "Nah." And so anyways, these fights kept happening and, and then on my birthday, the girl was like, "I am going to uh, I'm going to Cannes because I, I don't work in the film industry, but it's really important that I go." And, which I totally related and understood.

• 42:35Alex Cooper?

  Totally. She needed to go.

• 42:37Speaker 02

And so she left and, and like, you know, and she was pissed at me, like disappeared, didn't say bye. And it was like, you know, I think she was going for like a few weeks. And I was like, "Damn, what a shitty way to leave on that note." But I was like, alright, you know, fuck it.

• 42:49Speaker 01

You were really annoying on that birthday. You got really drunk.

• 42:52Speaker 02

I did get really drunk. I tried to fight the Elefante door guy.

• 42:55Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:55Alex Cooper?

I'm not the Elefante door guy. That's really so nice.

• 42:59Speaker 01

I had to give him a hundred bucks.

• 43:00Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 43:01Alex Cooper?

But you were just pissed. You were in a bad place.

• 43:03Speaker 02

No, I was just hammered. I mean, it didn't even have anything to do with her. I was just a drunk guy.

• 43:06Speaker 01

And she, her leaving had nothing to do with you being drunk too.

• 43:09Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. And so, my mom hated her, my, you know, my sister hated her. Everyone didn't like her at this point.

• 43:14Alex Cooper?

  You hated her, Drew?

• 43:15Speaker 02

Definitely hated her. And at this point, I was like, I think I probably should call this soon. Like, I was beginning to get those vibes, but, but I was also like, I'm such an optimist, you know, like, it's hard for me to kind of like pull that rug out. So anyway, she bounces and then I'm like sitting at like my table in my kitchen and I just kind of see this thing out of the corner of my eye that's wasn't there like a day ago. And basically like two X's ago had bought me this, this dog pet treat camera where you can like shoot treats out of it and it's like motion sensor.

• 43:45Speaker 01

  You know these things?

• 43:45Alex Cooper?

  Yes.

• 43:46Speaker 01

And so the dog walks up to it and the camera turns on and alerts your phone?

• 43:49Speaker 02

Yeah, and you shoot a treat out. And so, I'd gotten this gift and I'd never set it up because it was just kind of just complicated and we were just busy all the time and whatever and I, you know, but one day it was like sitting on this table and I was like, oh, that's kind of, you know, odd that it's out, but like, it's not, it's on, it's not for a dog, my dog's not getting any treats, so that surely this thing's not hooked up. And, and it's plugged into like the outlet and I was like, huh, I guess my housekeeper saw this like hanging wire and was like, let me plug it in.

• 44:14Alex Cooper?

  Such an optimist.

• 44:15Speaker 02

So I unplug it and like plug, you know, I'm a jewel smoker, so I was like, it's the only outlet for my jewels, so I would plug it. And this went on for like, in my head looking back, months. I was like, I kept unplugging this thing. And then one day, I was like sick of like unplugging and plugging it back in that I was like, I'm picking this thing and putting it in a drawer and this is annoying, why is this out?

• 44:33Alex Cooper?

  Right.

• 44:33Speaker 02

And this is like when she left for Ken, but miraculously, the thing is like back on the table now. And then it was like the matrix. It was like, Oh my god, I've been getting spied on for like seven months by this fucking pet camera. And I get up close to it and she had like blacked out the recording light, like really.

• 44:52Speaker 01

  With a marker.

• 44:53Speaker 02

With a marker and then covered it with an additional piece of electrical tape perfectly cut out. That you would never have noticed it.

• 44:59Alex Cooper?

  This bitch is genius.

• 45:00Speaker 02

And I was like, Craig, I was like, we got her.

• 45:03Speaker 01

And we went on the security cameras and there's video of like she like walks downstairs into the kitchen. Notices the cameras like unplugged. Oh, goes over, opens a cabinet, so the, so she's already scouted the actual house security cameras. She like walks up, opens the door, does something like behind the door for like a weirdly long time and then closes it and leaves and then the thing's plugged in.

• 45:25Speaker 02

  Yeah, and so.

• 45:26Speaker 01

  It's crazy.

• 45:26Speaker 02

And it was wild and so I was like, how do we like broach this?

• 45:29Alex Cooper?

Wait, how do you confront her?

• 45:30Speaker 02

I was like, it's red handed, you know what I mean? There's no doubt in my mind now. It's like sometimes, you know, like you'd be like, oh, so and so saw you at the club, like, you know, with this girl and you're like, I don't know who to believe, like. This was like, I've got your ass, like 100% and so I was like, we can do a couple of things right now. We can like play along with this and like maybe I get like a fake ring and then like tell Craig I'm gonna like propose and like.

• 45:54Speaker 01

And get her to admit it?

• 45:55Speaker 02

Yeah, and get her to like see it on the camera and then, but never like bring it up, you know, and just leave her in this like suspenseful while she's watching from Ken. You know what I mean?

• 46:03Alex Cooper?

  I love it.

• 46:04Speaker 02

But then I was like, fuck, I would kind of just be single and have fun.

• 46:06Speaker 01

Yeah, and we were like, please, just get to that phase.

• 46:09Speaker 02

Yeah, so I just like called her up and I was just like, yeah, you know.

• 46:11Speaker 01

  I got you.

• 46:11Speaker 02

And she was like so angry, she was like, what? And I was like, you tell me, I got found a camera in my house that you've been spying me on. She was like, you're fucking crazy and this. I was like, it's not, we don't have to fight.

• 46:21Speaker 01

It's so genius, the fact that like she got an alert every time, like at 3am that him and Craig are sitting at the front table having guys talk.

• 46:29Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 46:29Speaker 01

So she watched all of his like late night conversations.

• 46:33Speaker 02

It'd be like, what did you say about like, you know, so and so and you'd be like, I don't understand, like I've never even talked to this girl before, you know, it's like an Instagram person that like, you know, like he breaks up.

• 46:42Alex Cooper?

That is so epic and truly so genius and so fucked up.

• 46:48Speaker 01

It is, you gotta give her credit.

• 46:49Alex Cooper?

I give her credit only if I was like in a position where like she thought you were being super shady and she wanted to catch you, but after.

• 46:56Speaker 02

I never, I was a totally, I was a totally good boy, yeah.

• 46:59Alex Cooper?

  You were a saint.

• 46:59Speaker 02

No, actually, like. I really was in this one, yeah.

• 47:02Alex Cooper?

And you know what, I think it's like, that's almost like if you get someone's iPad or you get a way to like, look at their shit.

• 47:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:08Alex Cooper?

  You have to stop eventually.

• 47:10Speaker 01

We wrote a song about that.

• 47:11Alex Cooper?

  You did?

• 47:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's called iPad.

• 47:13Alex Cooper?

  Oh, yes.

• 47:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 47:15Alex Cooper?

You guys did. Oh, wow. Was it, it wasn't about that?

• 47:17Speaker 01

  No.

• 47:17Alex Cooper?

You should make one about the-

• 47:18Speaker 01

It's about going through the iPad.

• 47:19Alex Cooper?

  It's about what?

• 47:19Speaker 01

You know why you go through the iPad, right?

• 47:21Alex Cooper?

I've been through the iPad before.

• 47:22Speaker 01

Cause if you go through the phone, they delete texts, but it comes up on the iMessage on the iPad.

• 47:25Alex Cooper?

Oh, I've been in the situation where I literally handed him the iPad and said, "Open it right now."

• 47:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah.

• 47:30Alex Cooper?

Cause he showed you his phone. I'm like, "Your phone looks so beautiful. It's like, your mom and your aunt and me and your grandma. Open the fucking iPad, you piece of shit." And all of the sex and stuff. I was like, wow.

• 47:42Speaker 02

I was just like, yo, if you put on the floor and given my dog treats, I never would have asked a question about it, ever.

• 47:47Speaker 01

  That was her one mistake.

• 47:48Alex Cooper?

  That's a great fucking story.

• 47:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:06Alex Cooper?

What were your guys' lives like, um, dating wise, before you guys became the Chainsmokers? I know you went to Syracuse.

• 49:14Speaker 01

  Yeah, I went to Syracuse.

• 49:15Alex Cooper?

How were, what were you like in college?

• 49:16Speaker 01

It was like college. You know?

• 49:18Alex Cooper?

  It was just college?

• 49:19Speaker 01

I mean, like, yeah, you like, you like, dated a couple of girls and then...

• 49:22Speaker 02

  Shout out to Mackay.

• 49:23Speaker 01

Yeah, I was, I was a frat bro.

• 49:24Alex Cooper?

Oh, you were a frat guy?

• 49:25Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:26Alex Cooper?

So you had a nice time?

• 49:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 49:28Alex Cooper?

And you went to NYU, Alex?

• 49:29Speaker 02

Yeah, I was a New York City boy. I was like a ba- a terrible club, I was like a quantity club promoter, not a quality. Like, but like, I love, you know, I mean, I love...

• 49:37Alex Cooper?

Well, you actually were a club promoter.

• 49:39Speaker 02

  Oh, for sure.

• 49:40Alex Cooper?

  This is so great.

• 49:40Speaker 02

But it was like, it taught me, honestly, like, I know this is like, shout out to all my club promoters out there, you know, making ends meet. Uh, but, uh, but I like, it taught me a lot about like, staying in touch with people and like, you know, like, how do you differentiate your, like, a stupid night out, that's the same night every night, from a different club to the next, and how do you like, you know, like, make your thing a little bit more special than the other guy, or whatever, that's the other club, and, and like, for me, like, you know, I think this part of my life, girls were always sort of a challenge, you know, like, I, again, I was like stealing quarters, it wasn't exactly like, desirable beyond like, whatever crappy table I was like, getting two free bottles at, or something, and, and I think, but it did like, I think, ha- force me to like, have a bit more of a personality, you know what I mean?

• 50:23Alex Cooper?

  The self-awareness.

• 50:24Speaker 01

But also, I will attest, like, Alex's club personality is un- is remarkable. There's no one better in a club. Like, he can have a full conversation, and I, he doesn't even hear the other person, but his reaction is so genuine.

• 50:36Speaker 02

  That's great.

• 50:36Speaker 01

That keeps them talking and keeps them engaged, and then he'll just pick off, I guess, where you like, left off, and like, you're like, "I love that guy," and he's like, "I don't know who that is," and I didn't understand a word they said.

• 50:44Alex Cooper?

I, I really respect that, because the club promoter, you can be the creepy club promoter, which I don't think you were.

• 50:51Speaker 02

No, I wasn't the creepy club promoter.

• 50:52Alex Cooper?

Okay, well, we couldn't even, if you were, we would never know, right?

• 50:54Speaker 02

I couldn't, no one would've come back. No one would've come back.

• 50:56Alex Cooper?

  Right.

• 50:57Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 50:57Alex Cooper?

But I, I do respect that. Um, okay, I want to hear from both of you. Drew, obviously, I know you're both in relationships, but like, what is Alex's type?

• 51:09Speaker 02

I'm curious what the word line you're gonna draw between all these.

• 51:12Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah, I'm like, like physically?

• 51:15Alex Cooper?

  Oh, just all around.

• 51:18Speaker 02

  Kinda like.

• 51:19Speaker 01

I mean, I would say like, up until his current girlfriend, who I adore, uh, he has, he's attracted to like, some kind of severe issue. Yeah. For real, like, like, think about every single one. Up until the current one, like.

• 51:36Speaker 02

  Just wanna clarify.

• 51:37Speaker 01

Moo, we love Moo, Moo's great, close with the family. Like, very empathetic, takes your side, takes all of our side, you know, like, she's amazing. There was always something like fucked up with every single other one.

• 51:49Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, that's probably fair.

• 51:50Speaker 01

And like that, but that, that's like what got you, you know what I mean? Like, I feel like it made it like entertaining for you.

• 51:55Speaker 02

Yeah, I mean, you're also like, again, I don't know. You're might be right.

• 51:59Alex Cooper?

I really, I really appreciate the honesty and I like how you received that. There was no defensiveness, you were just open.

• 52:06Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 52:07Alex Cooper?

  And you accepted that.

• 52:07Speaker 02

And none of them were the right ones, that's for sure.

• 52:09Alex Cooper?

  Right, right, there you go.

• 52:10Speaker 02

And they're all great too, and they're all in respect, they just weren't great for me.

• 52:13Alex Cooper?

  Totally.

• 52:13Speaker 01

But they all got one thing.

• 52:16Alex Cooper?

Severely, seriously, something is wrong with them.

• 52:20Speaker 02

Like, watch yourself in New York now.

• 52:22Speaker 01

  I know.

• 52:22Speaker 02

  On the street.

• 52:23Alex Cooper?

Right. Um, okay, Alex, what is Drew's type?

• 52:27Speaker 02

I mean, it's a kind of similar thing in the way that like, I think both our current girlfriends are like very radically different from like the previous. Like, it's like something changed or clicked, you know, in which I also think it's true, like, I'm not coinciding like our last album release and tinging our lives, but like in some ways, like, something did happen like in the last year and a half or two years with us that I think, like, whether it's our insecurity or just the confidence that we have in like ourselves or, you know, just like, like knowing who we wanna be as we get older. Cause I think maybe like, he liked girls that were like part of like the scene a little bit and maybe had that, like, like, if you, people were excited, you know what I mean? It was like, like, it was like, oh, you can't believe, like, you're dating that person, sorta.

• 53:07Alex Cooper?

So like, you're saying they were excited about the lifestyle?

• 53:09Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, maybe that's it.

• 53:10Alex Cooper?

  That Drew presented.

• 53:11Speaker 02

I don't know if that's like totally fair, like a common thread between all of them, cause like, some of them like didn't enjoy going out, some like fucking love going out. Like, some like loved, you know, their power of their social media and other ones like cared less about it, you know? But I think it was like, uh, like a, like a, like a, being out.

• 53:29Alex Cooper?

  Yes.

• 53:29Speaker 02

  Out there, you know?

• 53:30Alex Cooper?

  Out there.

• 53:30Speaker 02

  Outside.

• 53:31Alex Cooper?

They loved the life. Did you feel that in the moment?

• 53:34Speaker 01

  Um.

• 53:37Speaker 01

I mean, like, most of the girls I dated were, like, very, and, like, I saw great relationships with all of them. Um, first of all.

• 53:46Alex Cooper?

I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

• 53:47Speaker 01

  I mean, like-

• 53:48Alex Cooper?

They say they're friends with all their exes.

• 53:49Speaker 02

Like, my bridges are so burned, like, I'm so, it's like Tangia. You know, in versus now, the, now, the world as you know it.

• 53:58Alex Cooper?

Oh, my god. You can't see them on the street. That shit will just get crazy.

• 54:02Speaker 02

No, I thought I was gonna get stabbed the last time I saw one of my exes. And I, like, had to leave out of, like, pure fear of my own life.

• 54:08Alex Cooper?

And then Drew's like, "I'm friends with all of them."

• 54:10Speaker 02

  They're everywhere.

• 54:11Alex Cooper?

  They're all so close.

• 54:12Speaker 02

  They're always around.

• 54:13Speaker 01

We're not, we're not close, but, like, you know, I just, they-

• 54:15Alex Cooper?

  It's chill.

• 54:15Speaker 01

  You know.

• 54:16Alex Cooper?

  It's chill. Okay, fair.

• 54:18Speaker 01

Like, what's there to be mad? But I was just like, "This is kinda done now."

• 54:21Alex Cooper?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 54:22Speaker 01

  That's how I, how I felt.

• 54:23Alex Cooper?

Are you guys the type of people that would go back to exes ever?

• 54:26Speaker 02

Uh, my shit is burned. They ain't gonna come back. It's done.

• 54:31Speaker 02

It is, they're, they, like, go down and, like, flames.

• 54:34Alex Cooper?

Like, yours feel like they really end traumatic.

• 54:37Speaker 02

There's no, like, like, hook, I think, like, maybe one time, like, an ex, when she was, like, blacked out, like, showed up at my door and was like, "I'm down to have sex with you, like, one more time."

• 54:45Alex Cooper?

  Right.

• 54:45Speaker 02

And that was, like, eighteen years ago.

• 54:47Alex Cooper?

  Yep, yep, yep.

• 54:49Speaker 02

So, like, that, like, it was a long time since that happened. But I'm glad, because I do see, like, a lot of couples have that, like, really annoying six, eight month, like, weird buffer, where you're just like, "What's happening here?"

• 55:00Alex Cooper?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 55:01Speaker 02

Like, you know, like, why are we, why is she still around?

• 55:03Alex Cooper?

  I get it.

• 55:04Speaker 02

Uh, we, no one likes her. She didn't like you. We know this.

• 55:06Alex Cooper?

  Fair.

• 55:07Speaker 02

You know, so I think in some ways, like, the hard cut is, like, important for both people to kind of move on.

• 55:11Alex Cooper?

Is, is Drew good at the hard cut?

• 55:15Speaker 02

Hmm, I would say on more than no side.

• 55:18Speaker 01

No. Yeah, I'm not good on the hard cut.

• 55:20Alex Cooper?

  You're not good.

• 55:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 55:21Alex Cooper?

  But you're getting better.

• 55:22Speaker 01

I mean, I'm dating someone now, like, it's not like it's not, you know.

• 55:25Alex Cooper?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But sometimes you would linger back.

• 55:28Speaker 01

Yeah, like, you break up, and like, "Oh, we're still friends."

• 55:30Alex Cooper?

Oh, my god. Drew is the guy that's just coming right on back.

• 55:34Speaker 02

But I think we both care about, I mean, it's just, like, I wish we didn't, but we really care what people think, like,

• 55:38Alex Cooper?

  I get it.

• 55:39Speaker 02

You don't wanna leave, like, I, I don't, it doesn't make me, like, happy that, like, all my exes, like, blow my brain out if they could, like, see me.

• 55:46Alex Cooper?

Have either of you ever been cheated on?

• 55:48Speaker 02

Probably. Actually, I know I have, for sure. Yeah.

• 55:52Alex Cooper?

  How did you find out?

• 55:54Speaker 01

Um, yeah, let him go first. Well, like, okay, what's the definition of cheating?

• 55:58Alex Cooper?

  Emotional or physical?

• 56:00Speaker 01

  Okay. Um, yeah, definitely.

• 56:04Alex Cooper?

Why? What were you thinking of?

• 56:06Speaker 01

Yeah, well, like, like physically, I know about one time.

• 56:08Alex Cooper?

  Okay.

• 56:09Speaker 01

But it was like one, it was like the thing where like the girl, I was living in New York and the girl like broke up with me ish, was like, I need a break and then like fuck some other dude and I knew that happened and then I she got back together with me like two weeks later and I was like hmm. So just look through the old phone and boom.

• 56:27Alex Cooper?

  And it was right there.

• 56:28Speaker 01

  There it was.

• 56:29Alex Cooper?

  Okay.

• 56:29Speaker 01

You gotta look through the, for the best friend texts.

• 56:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 56:32Speaker 01

Not, you don't look for the guy, you look for the best friend.

• 56:34Alex Cooper?

Drew knows, that's, that's someone that's definitely been cheated on.

• 56:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:39Alex Cooper?

Is that what you were saying is like, what considers cheating? Cause what, you were on a break or was there a different thing of like?

• 56:44Speaker 01

Oh no, there's another like emotional thing.

• 56:47Alex Cooper?

  That's rough.

• 56:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:47Alex Cooper?

How did you find out? The iPad?

• 56:51Alex Cooper?

  Always the iPad.

• 56:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 56:53Alex Cooper?

What about you? How did you find out you got cheated on Alex?

• 56:55Speaker 02

Uh, I mean, I think it's happened like maybe like two or three times or, uh, but it, it, it was all for the best. Uh, but I think, how was the first time? I think the first time I was just like it was just so obvious, you know what I mean? It was just like, I just didn't know how, like the, like.

• 57:10Speaker 01

Like you can feel when it's happening.

• 57:11Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. I just couldn't figure it out and, and like they just, you know, they just lied over and over again. So you didn't really like have proof until finally, I think they just like, I don't remember. It was just, again, it was like someone told me and then you were just like, show me the map. You know what I mean? It was like, this is a, and then it was like, again, it was like a relief. It was like, thank God, cause like I, this was like so, such a waste anyways, but a really funny one. And by the way, like just speaking in general for everyone out there, like I actually don't think looking through people's phones is healthy. At, including my, like, you have to practice what you preach. Like, I think like on some levels, like if you feel like something is like really fucking off, then like, sure, go get your proof. But like, just because you like been in a bad relationship in the past, doesn't like give you creative freedom to go and

• 57:54Speaker 01

Like design a story about what?

• 57:56Alex Cooper?

  Right, but.

• 57:58Speaker 02

But in this case, I was like, something's fucking up, like, you know, and I could not, like, you know what I mean? And I was like, I

• 58:04Speaker 01

Wait, wait, are you gonna tell the Craigslist one?

• 58:07Speaker 02

  Oh, nice.

• 58:08Alex Cooper?

  What? Tell me.

• 58:09Speaker 02

  I don't know which one's worse.

• 58:10Alex Cooper?

  Craigslist?

• 58:11Speaker 02

This is like way long ago. This is like I was at NYU when this happened. This is like BlackBerry. There's not even iPhones. Like, I don't think you could even lock a BlackBerry.

• 58:17Alex Cooper?

  Okay, we're ready.

• 58:18Speaker 01

  This is a good one.

• 58:19Speaker 02

And, uh, and I was just like so over it. I was like this, you know, like this girl's being shady with a friend of mine that I introduced her to her, like I got another girl. And I was just like, I thought it was like maybe like, like a drug thing or whatever. I couldn't figure it out. And I was just like, kind of at the end of it and whatever. And I always had a problem too of girls moving in with me too fast. Uh, which I think is like a very New York thing to do, cause like, it's hard to like, survive in New York. So it's like, you kind of just like, come on in, come on down. Live in my studio apartment with me. Uh, and, uh, and so I remember going and looking in the bathroom and I had no idea what I was gonna find. And I was like, same thing, went to the best friend text and it was like, you know, all about getting blow, you know what I mean?

• 58:59Speaker 02

So I was like, oh, maybe that's the problem. She's just like, kind of has like a drug problem right now and she's wrapped up in that. Like, that's not so bad. But then it was like, like unveiled. It was like, it was like, how do we get, like, we're out of money. Like, how do we get blow? And it was like, I have an idea. Like, why don't you go on Craigslist and like pee on somebody? And I was like, oh my God. I was like, oh no. You know what I mean? And I was like, so I, and then there were the emails and it was like, she was peeing on people.

• 59:30Alex Cooper?

  There were the emails.

• 59:32Speaker 02

There they are. And this is like not tech, this is not like today's technology too. This is like BlackBerry, you know what I mean?

• 59:37Alex Cooper?

  Wow.

• 59:38Speaker 02

And, uh, and I was just kind of like, I remember just like, you know, I wasn't even mad, cause it was like kind of such a bizarre.

• 59:43Alex Cooper?

I feel like that's a good way to go out. Like, it's almost better that it was like peeing on someone.

• 59:48Speaker 02

Like, I can't tell a lot of other breakup stories. Like, this is a really great story.

• 59:51Alex Cooper?

  Right.

• 59:51Speaker 02

And it like, wasn't a big deal in the like, history of my, you know, life. So you like laugh about these things and you're just kind of like, I remember just like waking up and I was just like, you know, know you're peeing on people and. For drugs and just gotta We just gotta call We're gonna have to call it now

• 1:00:08Alex Cooper?

You can't live with me anymore

• 1:00:09Speaker 01

You can't blame me for this

• 1:00:10Speaker 02

He's like, I didn't hook up with them and I was like We're getting like, you know, like, we're really getting granular here about like what's happening

• 1:00:16Alex Cooper?

She like, it wasn't in their mouth, it was just on the, you're like, I don't wanna know where you were peeing

• 1:00:21Speaker 02

I was more like, you're super hot, like, who's the lucky guy that was like, hit up some Craigslist ad? To like, get a girl to pee on him, and then like, you showed up, like

• 1:00:29Alex Cooper?

  Right, on Craigslist

• 1:00:30Speaker 02

Like a jackpot, you know what I mean? Like, that's where my head was at, I was like, I don't know what you're charging, but like

• 1:00:36Alex Cooper?

That is such an incredible story that I think you're right, you can take pride in that

• 1:00:40Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah

• 1:00:40Alex Cooper?

It's not sad, it's like a once in a lifetime, she found her like niche on Craigslist and she went with it

• 1:00:46Speaker 02

I just like, I have manipulated she got, like, her friend was like, you should go do this, even though like, they were both doing the drug It was like, why don't you go pee?

• 1:00:52Alex Cooper?

  Right

• 1:00:53Speaker 02

Like, you're not in a relationship, and it's like, no, no, no, you do it, yeah

• 1:00:57Alex Cooper?

Wow, Alex, you've got some great story times today

• 1:01:00Speaker 02

  Old man

• 1:01:01Alex Cooper?

Do you guys even talk about sex with each other?

• 1:01:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, absolutely, all the time

• 1:01:04Alex Cooper?

  Oh, you do?

• 1:01:05Speaker 01

  Yeah

• 1:01:05Alex Cooper?

I don't know, I feel like some guys are

• 1:01:07Speaker 01

I just, I wanna clarify, like, the sweater was a bad choice, I'm so warm

• 1:01:10Alex Cooper?

  Take it off!

• 1:01:11Speaker 01

  Yeah

• 1:01:11Alex Cooper?

  Take it off!

• 1:01:12Speaker 01

Okay, I'm gonna do that, I'm like, really red right now, and I just wanna clarify

• 1:01:16Alex Cooper?

It got hot in here, after Alex was talking about peeing and the women taking the whatever

• 1:01:20Speaker 02

I'm not into that shit, by the way, everybody, just for the record, I don't wanna stay with her

• 1:01:24Alex Cooper?

Can we even see if he has pee is on? We're almost done, I promise, I'm not gonna keep you guys too much longer I knew, I knew everyone was getting hot, do you wanna take your sweater off?

• 1:01:32Speaker 02

Nah, I'm cool as a couponer

• 1:01:34Alex Cooper?

  Okay Drew's like

• 1:01:37Speaker 01

  I'm dying

• 1:01:37Alex Cooper?

  Okay

• 1:01:37Speaker 02

I feel some heat, but I'm okay

• 1:01:38Alex Cooper?

So you guys talk about sex with each other?

• 1:01:40Speaker 01

  Yeah

• 1:01:40Alex Cooper?

Okay, you guys obviously don't need to say, like, the name of someone, but when I say this question If someone comes to mind, like, who is the best sex you've ever had? You don't have to say their name, but like, explain why

• 1:01:57Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah

• 1:01:57Speaker 02

  Fuck, I wish I, I don't know the answers

• 1:02:00Speaker 01

  Um

• 1:02:01Alex Cooper?

Drew smiled and looked up, so, go ahead Drew

• 1:02:05Speaker 01

  Um

• 1:02:08Speaker 01

I felt like I was very, first of all, it was someone I wasn't dating. It was like, it was like a hookup situation that was super random and like last minute and like happened a couple of times. And I think like the spontaneity, the whole thing was amazing. There was zero expectations. And then every now and then, and this is really rare, because, you know, a lot of times, especially, you know, if you really care about someone before you hook up for the first time, it's sometimes really hard to like perform how you want to perform and like, receive love the same way and I think on both sides and, you know, kind of when you have like spontaneous sex with someone that you're just like into, you just kind of have, like, there's nothing, there's none of that.

• 1:02:50Speaker 01

But it's also really rare in those situations that you find someone that's like you're six sexually connected with. You know, you can have average sex with anybody, but like every now and then, like you'll have like a hookup that's just.

• 1:03:02Alex Cooper?

  Great.

• 1:03:02Speaker 01

Yeah, you're both on the same page, you're into the same things, your bodies fit together the right way, like that type of.

• 1:03:08Alex Cooper?

That's a great, that's a great answer. Which one of you is more likely in the past to hook up with a fan?

• 1:03:14Speaker 02

  Toss up.

• 1:03:15Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:17Speaker 02

  Really depends on the city.

• 1:03:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

I was, I figured you'd ask us a question like that and like, when you say fan, do you mean like someone at our show or like a diehard fan? Because I don't think we've ever hooked up with like a diehard fan. Like no one wearing merch or anything.

• 1:03:32Alex Cooper?

Okay, okay, that's fair, that's fair. That's really fair.

• 1:03:35Speaker 02

Take the merch off their body.

• 1:03:38Speaker 01

  You're wearing my face.

• 1:03:40Alex Cooper?

Still hot. Okay, so just like someone at your concert. That's fair.

• 1:03:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, toss up.

• 1:03:45Alex Cooper?

It's a toss, both of you are getting, okay, that's fair. How often do people propose threesomes with the two of you and how often have you accepted?

• 1:03:54Speaker 02

  Get out of my head.

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

This is up to you to answer.

• 1:04:01Alex Cooper?

  It's call or not.

• 1:04:02Speaker 01

  How often is it proposed?

• 1:04:04Speaker 02

  Not proposed a lot.

• 1:04:05Speaker 01

  Seldom.

• 1:04:05Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:04:05Speaker 01

  Yeah, but.

• 1:04:07Speaker 02

  It's a lot of men.

• 1:04:13Alex Cooper?

  But it's happened.

• 1:04:18Speaker 02

Does it count if it's internationally?

• 1:04:24Alex Cooper?

I'm so proud of you guys. Was it, what, did you look at each other differently that morning?

• 1:04:29Speaker 01

  The first time?

• 1:04:32Alex Cooper?

  All the times.

• 1:04:34Speaker 02

I think we were just like, what the fuck just happened? Cause like, it wasn't like, that, that were never planned. You know what I mean? It was always like, just like, I don't know what is happening right now, but like, I'm also just like, I don't know, where's that, like, it's weird. I'm not gonna lie. I don't know like how.

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

I feel like that's how threesomes happen though. In any way.

• 1:04:52Alex Cooper?

  Absolutely. It's usually never planned.

• 1:04:54Speaker 01

This is just starts, oh, it's, oh, that, okay, I guess we're doing that.

• 1:04:57Speaker 02

It's been a long time, you know what I mean? But in the early days. It was also like the days when we like, we used to have to like share hotel rooms. Like, you know what I mean? Like, we would be in Europe, they have the two beds. They don't even split them apart. You know what I mean? Like, they literally have two singles. So, it's like, almost by force. We were forced in these scenarios.

• 1:05:15Speaker 01

  Crazy.

• 1:05:16Alex Cooper?

You were forced to have a threesome together.

• 1:05:18Speaker 02

By the European government because they don't separate their beds.

• 1:05:23Alex Cooper?

Right. You just had to make the most of the, the bad situations.

• 1:05:26Speaker 02

They just separated the beds. Like America does.

• 1:05:28Alex Cooper?

Right, right, right. So you just made it work.

• 1:05:31Speaker 02

  Yeah, no.

• 1:05:31Alex Cooper?

Do you guys remember your first one? Like, did you look at each other differently?

• 1:05:35Speaker 01

I was like, man, this guy's.

• 1:05:38Speaker 02

This guy's hot. I'm glad he's my partner.

• 1:05:42Speaker 01

Yeah. I think I'm actually blushing now.

• 1:05:46Alex Cooper?

  There you are.

• 1:05:46Speaker 01

Now it's not the heat. Yeah, I'm actually blushing. I'm just so concerned about how Alex just said is gonna be taken.

• 1:05:52Alex Cooper?

  No, I think it's great. I think.

• 1:05:54Speaker 01

What part? The government? We were forced.

• 1:05:57Alex Cooper?

  No, no, no.

• 1:05:58Speaker 01

  By the government.

• 1:05:59Alex Cooper?

By the government. The government forces you all kind of things.

• 1:06:02Speaker 02

There's just a lot, I mean, we had a lot of mileage on these tires, you know what I mean?

• 1:06:05Alex Cooper?

  It's good, it's good.

• 1:06:08Alex Cooper?

Have you guys ever been into the same person and how do you deal with that? We can't even move on. Drew's like, okay, I need to go.

• 1:06:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:18Alex Cooper?

It's okay, Drew, it's gonna be okay.

• 1:06:20Speaker 02

I don't think we ever have hooked up with the same person. But I'm not positive.

• 1:06:24Alex Cooper?

Um, you just said you had a fucking threesome.

• 1:06:26Speaker 01

  True.

• 1:06:27Speaker 02

Oh, that's a good point. But like, I thought you meant like separately.

• 1:06:32Alex Cooper?

Have you, okay, yeah, that's fair. Okay, fair, fair, fair. What's the one thing for you both that you're like, I really like this from someone in bed? For all the ladies listening, give us a little tip.

• 1:06:43Speaker 01

I mean, confidence, you know, like someone who like knows what they like, that can just take control and like, there's a lot of, um, people that just don't do that, like, I mean, as you know, it goes both ways, you know? It like doesn't even have to be right, just like confidence of like, this is what I'm trying to do right now, you know, and like, I think especially like from the beginning when you hook up with someone and they're like, I'm trying to like fuck you. Instead of like, whatever you want to do is so much harder.

• 1:07:11Speaker 02

I mean, do I, can I just say the same, same?

• 1:07:12Alex Cooper?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:14Speaker 02

I mean, that is true though, you know, but I think it cuts both ways also, like you can be confident and submissive at the same time.

• 1:07:19Alex Cooper?

  I agree with that.

• 1:07:20Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:07:20Alex Cooper?

Um, what type of women intimidate you?

• 1:07:24Speaker 02

  All of them.

• 1:07:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:07:26Alex Cooper?

  Your ex is out.

• 1:07:27Speaker 02

  Yeah, all of them.

• 1:07:34Speaker 01

What kind of women intimidate? Um.

• 1:07:39Speaker 01

Very stylish women. Yeah. Because I, I am trying my best with my style and when I see someone who has it, like male or female, I, I just, I see it as a form of intelligence that is just very subtle and tasteful and, um, you know, I don't think I have amazing style, but I'm interested in it.

• 1:07:59Alex Cooper?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:00Speaker 01

And when I see someone that just really kills it on either side, I'm like, damn, that person's got some swagger to them. I wonder what else they think about that way.

• 1:08:07Speaker 02

I'm a, I'm a, dressed as a slob, so it's just like, doesn't affect me at all. I respect it, but it

• 1:08:13Alex Cooper?

I was like, I'm not really looking for that.

• 1:08:15Speaker 02

But I respect it. I think it's great. I mean, I think any form of like self-expression like that, that like, really people really care about is, is like incredible. Um, and it like, I'm bummed that I don't have the like capacity to go the distance. Uh, so.

• 1:08:28Alex Cooper?

You've got other stuff going on.

• 1:08:29Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah, exactly.

• 1:08:30Alex Cooper?

Yeah. You put on a sweater today, like, you look great.

• 1:08:34Speaker 02

Yeah, this is a cardigan that I'm very fond of.

• 1:08:36Alex Cooper?

Okay, this is the most listened to podcast by women.

• 1:08:41Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:08:41Alex Cooper?

Is there anything you want to say to just like the women?

• 1:08:45Speaker 02

  Make amends?

• 1:08:45Alex Cooper?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:49Speaker 02

You may have offended on this episode.

• 1:08:51Alex Cooper?

I was gonna say, is there anything you would want to say to like the women of the world listening, from the Chainsmokers?

• 1:08:55Speaker 02

Ironically, like, I mean, I grew up in a house full of women, funny enough, and I know like your mom is one of your like biggest inspirations and best like friendships and, and, and like, I know in general, I almost feel like we, I feel like I have more in common with like, with the females in my life in terms of how we can relate to them and it's just, it's really cool to have this opportunity to be on the show and hopefully we didn't make too big a fool of ourselves and, you know, I'm honestly a huge fan of yours. It's like really cool to see anyone, but like especially, you know, you in this case, like creates such an amazing brand that like inspires people. And I think that at the end of the day, like if you can go out and inspire like three or four people to say like, I can just be myself and people will acknowledge me for that and, you know, and celebrate that, that's like pretty much the greatest thing, you know, that we could ask for. Did I spin that? That was good.

• 1:09:40Alex Cooper?

  That was nice.

• 1:09:40Speaker 02

That was good. I was freestyling out here.

• 1:09:42Alex Cooper?

You're like, how is that gonna go with the press? Is that gonna work? You guys are amazing. Thank you so much. Chainsmokers, it was an honor. Thank you for coming on Call Her Daddy.

• 1:09:49Speaker 02
