Americans take up to 20,000 breaths a day and spend an average of 90% of their time indoors. The indoor air that we breathe can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air. According to the EPA, indoor air pollutants can cause respiratory symptoms like sneezing, congestion, scratchy throat, and even more serious health problems like lung and heart disease. So what's the solution? Introducing Air Doctor, the air purifier that filters out 99.99% of dangerous contaminants so your lungs don't have to. This includes allergens, pollen, pet dander, dust mites, mold spores, and even bacteria and viruses.

Hello, everybody. We have a very special and different guest today on the podcast. We have Captain Jason Chambers. He is the captain of the ship on Below Deck, which is a massive hit on Bravo. Most of you guys probably watch it. I think I'm probably the only person who doesn't watch the show, right? Like, I met, just kind of like, give you some like background. I met Jason yesterday in the green room at California Live. I was doing a segment on parenting and... Raising, you know, resilient children and Jason was in the green room. And I figured, why not get him on my podcast, even though in full transparency, I've never watched the show.

• 2:22Jen Cohen?

But like, I do know it is a very popular show. So anyway, thank you for being here.

• 2:27Speaker 02

You're welcome. You're welcome. Well, I have a little 10 year old daughter. So your segment yesterday when we met was very poignant.

• 2:34Jen Cohen?

I, oh, I love that. So that's, yeah. So basically I was like doing the segment and then Jason pulls out his phone and showed me all these amazing cute pictures of his daughter who loves to climb trees. And basically what we, I think we bonded on the fact that tech, like on the West or in the West, you know, Western civilization, the US, people are just stuck on their phones and on social media. And basically being bored or playing outside has become null and void. And so when you said to me about your daughter, how she's the, like the antithesis, like living and growing up in Bali, which we'll get into, is completely different. There's no such thing as that type of lifestyle.

• 3:16Speaker 02

Yeah, I met her mother in Spain. She's from Australia. She was a chef on boats. And I always had a dream of building a place to replicate a super yacht on land, you know, we, we do hospitality, like a resort style thing where we could actually provide some health and wellness, but also give that special five star service.

• 3:35Jen Cohen?

Is that what you do on the boat? Cause you could tell me about that.

• 3:37Speaker 02

That's what we do on boat. Well, that's what we, we do on boats. We have luxury, luxury yachts where hospitality, really, I'm just a concierge, really, for, for anyone's needs. So I drive a big boat around and, and, and provide, you know, wealthy people for anything they want from.

• 3:52Jen Cohen?

This case, I want to, I want to get all into what you do also with the charity with it, with your daughter, but let's start from the beginning. Okay. So you're a captain on this boat. And so were you, how long were you a captain before you became a captain on this big show?

• 4:08Speaker 02

So I've been, this is our third season coming out, which has been what about four years it's been done? So I was a captain for about 20, 20, 20 years prior to that. So I've been captain for 20 years and then the show's been going for four.

• 4:21Jen Cohen?

So wasn't there, okay, now I'm gonna sound, you're gonna see how completely, I'm gonna sound like a complete idiot. I remember looking at, watching commercials and there was a man who had like a beard and he was, he had a gray hair, he looked like he was like much older as the captain. Was that like a different show?

• 4:37Speaker 02

Yeah, Bravo have gone off into a few other franchises, franchises. We have Sailing, we have Mediterranean, we did have Adventure, we have Down Under. So Captain Lee was the original.

• 4:46Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 4:46Speaker 02

And he's, he's just hung the boots up a couple of years ago, actually. So we still have a few other captains, Captain Sandy for the Mediterranean, great female captain. It's really, you know, setting a good example for, for females out there and striving in this industry. And Captain Glenn, who's Sailing, and Captain Kerry, which has taken over from Captain Lee.

• 5:08Jen Cohen?

How many, how many versions of this show is there?

• 5:10Speaker 02

There was, there's been, been five. But we're down to a couple now. But we did have Adventure, but that didn't last too long. But Sailing's been a stable, stable mark, which is a sailboat, 50 meters or 170 foot. And then Sandy, Captain Sandy, who's in the Mediterranean. And then we have one in the Caribbean and Down Under. So the, the guests get to see, it's kind of a bit of a fun, travel, reality, real, unstructured program.

• 5:34Jen Cohen?

Okay, but, so it kind of, it's kind of like the Real Housewives, basically, right?

• 5:38Speaker 02

  Oh, I wouldn't say that.

• 5:40Jen Cohen?

Well, no, only because it was a popular show.

• 5:42Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 5:42Jen Cohen?

And so then they did, you know, Housewives of Beverly Hills, Housewives of Orange County, Housewives of New Jersey, and like, and on and on and on, right?

• 5:51Speaker 02

Yeah, there's that, there's that aspect that the audience get to see a different location as well. Like the Caribbean to the Mediterranean to Down Under. So it's not just about the, the dynamics of the crew trying to actually do a real job in a, in a pressure cooker environment and see what actually unfolds.

• 6:07Jen Cohen?

So you're actually a real captain on the show. It's not just bullshit that you're just, you're, you're not just playing a captain on TV.

• 6:13Speaker 02

No, they don't, they don't script it. They don't tell us how to, how to run the boat. If they did, a captain wouldn't be a captain. As a captain, I wouldn't allow that, you know, because there's so much safety, there's a lot of safety aspects behind it. So we have to hold that. We have to be firm about that as captains. We're driving big boats. We've got a lot of people, we've got a lot A lot of camera crew is in the background as well. So eh the safety always falls back on to us. Obviously Bravo in the background have got their policies and procedures which are pretty strong. But when it comes to the actual boat, starting the engine, getting it out there and providing the guests their quality time that they pay for.

• 6:46Jen Cohen?

  They actually pay for it?

• 6:46Speaker 02

They pay, you have to pay to get on. So eh just to sum it up to make it easy, a boat our size would be anywhere from three hundred to five hundred thousand a week to rent.

• 6:56Jen Cohen?

  Right, to rent, yeah.

• 6:57Speaker 02

We actually, and you might do eight charters in a season from say May till September, um or from December till to May. And you, eight charters is a pretty busy charter uh season. And you might do a week, have a rest, week, have a rest, week. And in between that, the crew will let loose, relax, get set up for the next one and go again. We actually do nine charters in six weeks.

• 7:21Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 7:21Speaker 02

So we're doing nine charters in six weeks, we're not doing eight charters in six months. And not only that, I turn up to the boat, I don't know the boat, never driven the boat. The crew turn up, I very rarely know eighty percent, eighty percent of the crew, I might know a few return crew. Then the food turns up and all the provisions turn up and the next day the guests turn up and it goes straight for six weeks. Not only that, after each charter, the crew go out, they relax, they celebrate their tips it just got. They have a little bit too much sometimes, or they um hook up with someone or a bit of romance comes or a bit of argument or a little bit of argy-bargy, a bit of, bit of um, bit of misogynism comes out, egos come out, um. You know, it eh eh develops and people say, well, that's not real. Well, you know what?

• 8:06Speaker 02

It's actually about two years of gadding sh- shrunk into nine weeks. So it actually does happen. Um but we get to see it over a short period of time due to the environment that that's filmed in.

• 8:16Jen Cohen?

Okay, I've got so many questions now. Okay, so you said so much stuff. Okay. So doesn't Bravo just pick people to be on the boat?

• 8:24Speaker 02

The casting actually pick the crew, the crew are experienced crew, they actually apply for it obviously.

• 8:30Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 8:30Speaker 02

I don't get to pick them.

• 8:31Jen Cohen?

So, right, so then like, so are, so these are all people actually have that do this job legitimately?

• 8:36Speaker 02

They are experienced, they've got qualifications, yes.

• 8:38Jen Cohen?

And so it's not always the same crew. But always so but you're the captain, which means you're always consistent on the show. But does the entire, so does your crew always change?

• 8:49Speaker 02

Usually you have some fan favorites or people that have performed well will return.

• 8:53Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 8:54Speaker 02

But that would only be about maybe maximum two. So there's eight crew every year, new crew. So sorry, there's about six new every year.

• 9:03Jen Cohen?

Okay. So then the people who are renting the boat, they're actually paying?

• 9:06Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 9:07Jen Cohen?

To be on the show with the people, with the, with the show?

• 9:10Speaker 02

Yeah, rather than paying that three hundred or five hundred thousand a week like a normal person. They're only paying, you know, seventy to eighty thousand for three days.

• 9:18Jen Cohen?

  Oh, wow.

• 9:18Speaker 02

And then they have to tip on top of that as well.

• 9:20Jen Cohen?

So what kind of tips do you guys get?

• 9:22Speaker 02

We get big tips. We average around about twenty thousand per charter. So, um, you know, I'd say average that. So.

• 9:30Jen Cohen?

  Twenty thousand?

• 9:31Speaker 02

  Twenty thousand.

• 9:32Jen Cohen?

For charters, how long you said like?

• 9:33Speaker 02

For three days. So we do nine of them. So we walk out with, say, two hundred thousand tip after nine weeks and we split that between the ten crew.

• 9:40Jen Cohen?

Oh, you have to split everything. Everything goes into a pot.

• 9:43Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 9:43Jen Cohen?

Okay. And so are the, so the people that are, I guess, the guests of the boat, instead of paying three hundred thousand or whatever, they're paying seventy or eighty. And they're picked by Bravo.

• 9:53Speaker 02

Yeah, but look, a lot of guests wanna, wanna be on the show and wanna travel and, and enjoy the.

• 9:57Jen Cohen?

  I'd wanna be a guest.

• 9:58Speaker 02

Yeah. Look, bring your A game, complain about the crew, make it hard for us. And, um, that's, that's all you have to do to be a guest.

• 10:06Jen Cohen?

So I was gonna say, so do you, so the, the more difficult the, the guest is, I guess, the better the show is for, um.

• 10:14Speaker 02

We, we want crew, we want guests to actually be engaged, be authentic, but also be active, but also be honest as well. We wanna be critiqued. And as a captain, I wanna be critiqued as well. Like, I would like to, I'd like my chef to be, um, under the microscope. I want my stewardesses and the service to be under the microscope. It's better for us, it's better for the show, but, um, it's better than, it's better for us to actually, uh, to learn from and get better. So these ups and downs that go are real. And look, there's, there's not a boat out there that charters that doesn't have a bad guest that actually is really hard. And that's fine. That makes us better.

• 10:47Jen Cohen?

And how do they fit? Like, how do you guys all sleep on the boat? Like, the whole crew and the guest? How many bedrooms are on these boats?

• 10:54Speaker 02

So every charter boat can have only a maximum of twelve guests.

• 10:58Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 10:58Speaker 02

So it doesn't matter how much, how big Jeff Boosby's boat is or whatever, it's, they can only have twelve guests. Otherwise you're moving into a passenger liner, which is a different realm.

• 11:07Jen Cohen?

  So twelve guests.

• 11:08Speaker 02

So twelve guests and then the crew, we have about ten to twelve, thirteen, thirteen crew.

• 11:13Jen Cohen?

And where do you, like, are you guys sleeping, like, in, are you guys triple bunking or?

• 11:18Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah, sometimes double bunking, not the captain, he's got his own, but the crew always double or triple bunk. And then that's below deck and that's why it's called below deck. All the adventure goes on below deck.

• 11:28Jen Cohen?

Right, so it's not really about the guests on the, on the.

• 11:31Speaker 02

No, I would say, I would say probably ten percent of it's about the guests. Twenty percent of it's about the location and the activities.

• 11:39Jen Cohen?

  And the drama between them.

• 11:41Speaker 02

And then I think a good seventy percent of it then is about, um, about the crew and how they actually perform and get on.

• 11:48Jen Cohen?

So which show is that performs the best? Is like the Down Under that you're on, that, the, the most popular?

• 11:54Speaker 02

I'd have to say that, Below Deck Down Under.

• 11:55Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, exactly, yeah.

• 11:56Speaker 02

We're all going pretty strong. Uh, we're all going pretty strong. The ratings have been strong. It's been going for ten, eleven years. It's been fantastic.

• 12:02Jen Cohen?

  I can't believe it.

• 12:03Speaker 02

Yeah, we got nominated for an Emmy nomination last year, our one, season two, so that was a good.

• 12:08Jen Cohen?

  Yours, the Down Under one?

• 12:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 12:10Jen Cohen?

  Oh my god, it's amazing.

• 12:11Speaker 02

Yeah, unstructured, uh, unstructured reality TV show. So that was a pretty, we only got knocked off by Ryan Reynolds, so that's not too bad.

• 12:17Jen Cohen?

Oh, okay. Well, that's not bad. Have you ever done any celebrities? Have you taken any celebrities on these, on these?

• 12:23Speaker 02

Some of the other franchises have done housewives and, and stuff, but no real big celebrities, um.

• 12:28Jen Cohen?

No, besides the show, like in real life, have you done?

• 12:31Speaker 02

Back in the day I did. I remember boats, boats that I were on, I was on with, um, I think we had Jennifer Lopez on once, Down in the Caribbean.

• 12:38Jen Cohen?

You think? You're not a hundred percent sure? And was, was that like a five hundred thousand of?

• 12:45Speaker 02

Anne, I had Anne Archer, Anne Archer, she was an actress.

• 12:48Jen Cohen?

I remember her from Fatal Attraction.

• 12:49Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 12:50Jen Cohen?

  Yeah. Jennifer Lopez is.

• 12:52Speaker 02

The Patriot Games or Patriot or something with Harrison Ford. Yeah.

• 12:55Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 12:55Speaker 02

I had that on once. Yeah.

• 12:56Jen Cohen?

But you also did Fatal Attraction. She was the wife.

• 12:59Speaker 02

  Oh, yeah, yeah.

• 13:00Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 13:00Speaker 02

That's right. She was in her heyday too.

• 13:01Jen Cohen?

Right. That was like her big thing. And those guys are paying five hundred thousand a week.

• 13:06Speaker 02

  Yeah, definitely.

• 13:06Jen Cohen?

Okay. And then were they nice? Was Jennifer Lopez nice?

• 13:10Speaker 02

Look, I can't remember that. I think I was really green then. That was my first season. So I'm.

• 13:15Jen Cohen?

Your first season ever like doing it?

• 13:16Speaker 02

That was weird. And actually, all that crew were the crew of Wall Street too.

• 13:20Jen Cohen?

  Oh, of what?

• 13:21Speaker 02

The movie, The Wolf of Wall Street, the boat that sank. My first captain was the captain on that, from that boat.

• 13:27Jen Cohen?

  Oh, really?

• 13:28Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 13:28Jen Cohen?

In like the, in real life?

• 13:30Speaker 02

  Yeah, in real life.

• 13:30Jen Cohen?

So the guy who was the Wolf of Wall Street was here and it was the most fascinating podcast.

• 13:36Speaker 02

  It would be.

• 13:36Jen Cohen?

Like, he was telling me all sorts of stuff. I was like, I've seen the movie, of course, but like, he was telling me like, the movie didn't give, it was like, not even like, a sliver of what really happened in real life.

• 13:47Speaker 02

I could probably, look, the, the crew that came off that boat, they were pretty tight lipped. They didn't talk about anything.

• 13:53Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 13:54Speaker 02

And so, um, he can rest assured that no bad words were said about him.

• 13:58Jen Cohen?

Oh, my. Oh, wow. That's because he, he was saying some bad words himself. So that's kind of.

• 14:02Speaker 02

He's probably, probably gone through the other side now.

• 14:04Jen Cohen?

Oh, but yeah, exactly. So how did you even become a captain on the show? Did you get the audition?

• 14:10Speaker 02

I was in, I was in Papua New Guinea doing a, working for an American family there, which I wish I could tell you because they actually did some great work while we were there, uh, with some villagers and stuff and rebuilding hospitals. Anyway.

• 14:20Jen Cohen?

  You were doing that?

• 14:21Speaker 02

Yeah, we had some, we had a great opportunity. Um.

• 14:24Jen Cohen?

That, that has nothing to do with being a captain of a boat?

• 14:26Speaker 02

Yeah, yeah. I was on a boat. They wouldn't turn up. They didn't turn up because of, um, some political issues here. They just didn't want to be seen on their boat. They're a very, very big family here in, in America. Anyway, so I was working on that boat.

• 14:37Jen Cohen?

What boat? Can you tell me?

• 14:38Speaker 02

I can't. I'm not gonna say. So they, they don't, they're very low key. And, um, they, we went, we dropped it. I remember dropping an anchor once and I had to go ashore with the helicopter pilot to find the chief to talk about whether I could anchor in his bay. And, um, we had a bag of, we had a bucket of nails, some flour, some tarpaulins and some tools to give as a present. And, uh, we found this old deserted hospital. And it, it still gets used with like sixty people. They average a month would paddle and pass on canoes.

• 15:09Jen Cohen?

  Oh, wow.

• 15:09Speaker 02

Babies, babies being born, no lights, no running water, absolutely horrendous conditions. Um, so we went back and um, we got all the engineers off the boat. We went up there, we looked at everything. We came back again, we, we uh fitted out running water, we fixed their pipes, we put new plumbing in, uh we put new um pumps in, we put L E D lights in and everything.

• 15:30Jen Cohen?

  Oh, wow.

• 15:31Speaker 02

And then when the owners did come, we took them for, uh, they wanted to come and see it. And um, they said, how much did this cost? And um, I said, well, it cost me nothing. It costs you ten, fifteen thousand. He said, triple it and keep doing it. And his guest was a big medical supplier. So he actually sent over a pallet of medical supplies to him as well. And he said, just keep doing that. That's whatever you do. Just so we just cruised around and through the agent that we use there, we just found things to do. And a lot of boats do contribute when they go through these areas. But wow, what a moment in life. Um, I remember once on the back of the boat, we had kids just sitting in dugout canoes and we set up a, a big sheet and a projector when we watched Moana at night. They've never seen T V.

• 16:12Jen Cohen?

  They've never seen a T V. Wow.

• 16:14Speaker 02

And um, anyway, I was back in Australia. Covid was happening. I couldn't get back to the Philippines where my daughter was.

• 16:21Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 16:21Speaker 02

And it was at the end of Covid, just at the end, and I was about to try and get out of Australia and leave this job because it was coming to America and I wanted to stay in Asia. And I got an email to join Below Deck Down Under, which was doing a, a franchise in Australia. So, yeah, why not?

• 16:35Jen Cohen?

But how did they even like, okay, so how did they know to find you? Like?

• 16:38Speaker 02

I actually got an email through another captain friend. So through their casting, they put it out there and my friend emailed me with them in it and said, listen, this is the guy that should be on the show. He's down there, he knows the area and um, he should be on it. So uh, we hooked up and we made contact and I really fell in love with uh the production team and talking to them. I thought, these, these guys are pretty cool. You know, they, they're really good. So um, I thought, why not do it? My crew convinced me to do it. I didn't think anything of it. I thought I'd just do a season and then go and see my daughter who I hadn't seen for a year. And here we are four years later. So.

• 17:11Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 17:12Speaker 02

  Yeah, it's been fun.

• 17:13Jen Cohen?

Have, has you ever done T V before?

• 17:15Speaker 02

No, never. No, no. So I'm officially out of order. So. So if you ever seen any of the promos of me coming out of the water with my shirt off and everything, that is not me.

• 17:23Jen Cohen?

I was gonna say that, you know, I saw it yesterday in the green room because they were promoting me coming up next or whatever. And so they promoted both of us, I guess. And you were wearing this like wet T-shirt or something coming out of the boat. And they were like, oh, the sexiest man on Bravo, which is a whole other thing. So how did you get this whole sexiest man on?

• 17:44Speaker 02

  No comment, no comment.

• 17:46Jen Cohen?

  You have to tell me.

• 17:47Speaker 02

Well, I don't want to be derogatory, but I haven't got much. I haven't got much, well, no.

• 17:52Jen Cohen?

You have, no, no, no, no, Jason, you're on this podcast. You have to, you, you.

• 17:55Speaker 02

  I think it's, it's an untitled one. It's untitled.

• 17:58Jen Cohen?

Well, who called you this? Is it just some name that you like the Bravo executives decided to call you?

• 18:03Speaker 02

  I don't know where it's come from and it's.

• 18:05Jen Cohen?

Or is it all the women who are constantly asking about you or like?

• 18:09Speaker 02

  Yeah, possibly.

• 18:10Jen Cohen?

Are you serious? I'm asking. So.

• 18:12Speaker 02

I'm fifty two, I'm fifty two. I don't see it that way.

• 18:14Jen Cohen?

You're so, but you're, you know what it is? That's, that's probably why they like you and why they think you're sexy is because you have like a humility to you. That's what's actually what's sexy about you.

• 18:23Speaker 02

  Pretty embarrassing.

• 18:24Jen Cohen?

Well, that, well, you being like this right now is actually sexy. And I'm not hitting on you. I'm just saying. Like the, I'm not, I'm not hitting on him. I'm just saying, because if you were this arrogant guy who was like coming out here and trying to be all like, you know, thinking that you're like this, this hot thing, it's, that's unattractive. That's a turn off. But if you're like, ah, shocks, come on, like all this humility, try and do all these nice things and like with these kids. I mean, that's why the ladies like you. I could totally understand, right? Bravo executive over here, right?

• 18:56Speaker 02

Well, the, the thing is that like we spoke about, the job is real. And then at the end of it, they get us to do all these promos. And to be quite honest, it's taken a bit, but they're so much fun doing these promos, you know? But and each year, like, really? Does it have to be shirt off again?

• 19:12Jen Cohen?

Yeah. Are you doing all the shirt? So like, are, what, what is all, I haven't seen them, but like, are you doing like billboards with your shirt off?

• 19:21Speaker 02

I'm sure they would if they could, but they're, they're good. They, they, I'm sure they know the market, that they hit the market and it's fun. Look, I, we, we just have fun. Doing it. It's after six weeks of really hard work, you know, a lot of fatigue and it's kind of just this last three days of doing all these commercials.

• 19:36Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 19:37Speaker 02

And it's just like, oh, let's just have some fun and we go with it and have a great time doing it.

• 19:41Jen Cohen?

But wait, wait, wait. You're like, you're, you're brushing off this, this, this whole like sexiest man on reality TV thing. So like, do you get DMs from women like all day, all night?

• 19:50Speaker 02

Well, we, I'm filtered a lot. It's filtered.

• 19:54Jen Cohen?

You do. So, but you do, basically?

• 19:56Speaker 02

  I'm sure I do.

• 19:56Jen Cohen?

And so I'm going to ask the Bravo lady. So how did you decide that Jason was going to be the sexiest man on Bravo? Is it because you guys just noticed the like influx of women who are constantly asking about him versus anybody else on the show? Well, is that really how?

• 20:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 20:14Jen Cohen?

But like, who else do you guys even have on Bravo?

• 20:16Speaker 02

  There's heaps. I'm, I'm down the list. I'm down.

• 20:18Jen Cohen?

No, who else? What other guys are on Bravo that are like a big, big name?

• 20:23Speaker 03

  A lot, yeah.

• 20:24Jen Cohen?

Most of them are like, just like, you know, women who are.

• 20:27Speaker 03

  He's a captain of.

• 20:28Jen Cohen?

Like the whole package, right? Like, and so then you just kind of create this whole like thing around it.

• 20:33Speaker 03

  I'm leaning in.

• 20:34Jen Cohen?

You're leaning in. Okay. I like that. And he's embarrassed, which makes it even better and all the other things.

• 20:40Speaker 02

  So anyway, my daughter.

• 20:41Jen Cohen?

Yeah, exactly. How many people watch Below Deck? Like, what's the, what's the numbers that?

• 20:45Speaker 02

Um, I think, look, I think each franchise is, is averaging just under, under a mill.

• 20:51Speaker 03

  Yeah, it varies.

• 20:52Speaker 02

You know, varies. But um, I think all franchises are doing quite well, really well. And um, as I said, it's been going for quite some time and it's got a, it's coming from someone from inside the industry. We used to look at it as like, oh, really? But we're just, we're, we're actually starting to enjoying it as well. People that actually are in the industry, they, they're starting to watch it as well. It started off with like, we don't really want, the industry was like frowning upon it, like why have them understand this? But now it's, uh, there's a lot of good points that are coming out of it, which I think we need to work on, like Captain Sandy, a female captain who's actually really done a lot for a lot of charities that she works for. And she's probably allowed a lot of females to come up into the industry. They get a lot of um, female Dex stewardesses on board.

• 21:35Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 21:35Speaker 02

So it actually just gives a lot of women understanding that they can actually be. Working outside as well. It's not just a stewardessing job, you know, waitress job. And so you can actually be part of, part of the system where you can get certifications for it. So there's a hell of a lot of good points in it.

• 21:49Jen Cohen?

Why thirty people? Is thirty people for that type of size boat a normal size crew?

• 21:54Speaker 02

  You got the crew.

• 21:55Jen Cohen?

Okay, so the crew is who? The captain?

• 21:57Speaker 02

Yeah, captain, captain first, mate engineer, and then you'll have um three stewardesses and three deckhands, you know. So you've got six, you've got ten, ten or eleven, twelve, thirteen crew depending on the size. Then you'll have twelve guests. Then we'll have four producers on at one time. And then you'll have probably five sound and five camera people.

• 22:14Jen Cohen?

Okay, no, no, no, not the camera, not the TV people, just in general on the boat.

• 22:18Speaker 02

In general, let's just say there's twelve plus ten, so twenty two would be usual.

• 22:22Jen Cohen?

And because you're also enclosed in such a small environment, there must be a lot of like drama and relationships and like that actually form. You said earlier that the mom of your daughter was the chef?

• 22:35Speaker 02

No, she was a chef, not my chef on the boat, but she was a chef.

• 22:38Jen Cohen?

But not, but was she a chef for another boat?

• 22:40Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 22:41Jen Cohen?

But you guys never met on a boat together?

• 22:43Speaker 02

  No, no.

• 22:44Jen Cohen?

  That was just a coincidence?

• 22:45Speaker 02

Yeah, we just met through friends, yeah.

• 22:47Jen Cohen?

Oh, but you, because you're friends with a lot of the same people who are crew.

• 22:51Speaker 02

Yeah, but I know where you're going from, going to, and it definitely, it's a, it's a closed environment. So it's a very um, you've got different nationalities.

• 22:59Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 22:59Speaker 02

You've got different personalities, you know, and these are things that um, look, when you go to work at a nine to five job, you know, you might not like Tom who you're sitting next to or Sarah, you know, but you get to go home and you actually just get the clock off and bitch to your partner going, Tom's, Tom's, I can't stand Tom. Yeah, but I'll go back to work tomorrow. Whereas in our industry, uh, we have to be with them twenty four seven. So the only way to combat that is actually respect someone's uniqueness or different personality and understand that. And then get to know them. You know, we all know people from different countries, you know, behave differently. They have different aspects or different views on life or things.

• 23:40Speaker 02

You know, some can be very pigheaded or misogynist or rude in their tone, but they're probably not. Some people are really, uh, really beautiful people, but just they Come across very, very harsh.

• 23:50Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 23:51Speaker 02

So give that, give that a moment, understand where they come from, learn their nationality, learn their personality, learn their behaviours and, um, and not everyone has to be how you think they should be. And that's a big lesson that crew have to learn, especially when you're living with them twenty four seven.

• 24:06Jen Cohen?

Right, that's crazy. I mean, that's a small quarters to be with. Did you, have you ever had any relationships with people in your crew, ever?

• 24:14Speaker 02

  Me personally.

• 24:15Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 24:16Speaker 02

I've been doing it for twenty five years, of course.

• 24:17Jen Cohen?

  Of course, yes.

• 24:18Speaker 02

  You know, I've.

• 24:18Jen Cohen?

  On Bravo?

• 24:19Speaker 02

No, not on Bravo. No, no, I've, I've had, uh, really strong relationships before too. You know, some that I've actually, you know, thought that might have been the one.

• 24:28Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 24:29Speaker 02

You know, I don't live up a, in a suburb and with a cul-de-sac, you know, with a white picket fence and have barbecues every Saturday. You know, my friends are my crew that I've worked with over, over two and a half decades.

• 24:40Jen Cohen?

  Wow, yeah.

• 24:41Speaker 02

My best friends are, you know, yeah, my best friends are crew that I've actually worked with and had a great relationship. And then, um, still keep in touch now and male or female, so.

• 24:51Jen Cohen?

What is the, like, what's your day to day look like? Give me, break it down, like, walk me through what a day in the life of a captain would be.

• 24:59Speaker 02

Well, obviously, everything's based around the itinerary that you've already set before.

• 25:03Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 25:04Speaker 02

So you're obviously looking at the weather, you've got the provisions, you've got the supply, you've got the maintenance of the vessel, you've got the crew, how they are, how they're going. Then you've also got the admin, you've got the, the accounting, you've got the, you've got the reporting to the management, you've got reporting to the owner. And then, um, then you're fulfilling the itinerary and the cruising and the going through the grounds and the activities through the day. And then that's all starting again. And then you're also foreseeing what's happening in about four months' time when you finish that season, uh, going into a shipyard repair maintenance time where you've probably got six weeks to turn the boat over, spend a million or two.

• 25:36Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 25:37Speaker 02

And then get back out. Um, and then all that is with, uh, crew vacations, you know, crew leave, terminations, contractual stuff for that, um, employment, H R, um, uniform sizes too, um, and then you've got the crew drama, which has happened. So that would be a day of the life of.

• 25:55Jen Cohen?

What time do you guys wake, like, for, for our Bravo, like, when you're, when you're filming for Bravo?

• 25:59Speaker 02

Oh, when I'm filming, that's that's real life. Filming, we're the same. It's the only thing different about all that is I'm not foreseeing, I'm not, you know, it's all set. That's what we're doing. So walk up to the boat and just focus on that. Every day, a captain, you know, he would might go to sleep, you know, after after guests have gone down or dinner. Um, and he'll be up early getting into it. Um, and we have set hours of rest that the crew have to have. Otherwise, if they go outside that, it's um, past um, it's past their legal requirements. They have to have a certain amount of rest in certain blocks for safety. But that does get broken every now and again, because we want to try and get things done.

• 26:36Jen Cohen?

Right, right, right. How do you guys have like, because you know, you're out in the, you know, you're you're out in the outdoors, but how do you maintain like a healthy life? Like you, you obviously said that you really care about before even off camera, like longevity and health and wellness. And we're going to get into your whole story. Is it hard to take care of your health when you're like confined to like a boat underneath and you have to do a certain structured schedule like you it does? Like, there's not much time to kind of like even have like, if you have like downtime, are you stuck going to your room or like, are you allowed to like wander around the boat? Like, what happens?

• 27:12Speaker 02

Crew usually get a designated area.

• 27:14Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 27:14Speaker 02

Where they can actually do some stuff and a good owner or a good management system would understand that, respect that. And really good owners want their crew to have um, a healthy lifestyle. And I always promote that the the crew can always jump in the water with the guests as well. They can get on the paddle boards with the guests, you know, because it's actually.

• 27:31Jen Cohen?

  Oh, they can.

• 27:31Speaker 02

Well, to me, it looks like they're, well, the one, they're actually getting getting some refreshing activity. Two, they're actually acting as a safety with the guest.

• 27:40Jen Cohen?

  That's true. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 27:41Speaker 02

They're another set of eyes. So it's actually acts as two purposes. But I think society's changed a lot too. I think if you go 20 years ago, the crew would work, work, work, go to the bar, get drunk, have a great time.

• 27:51Jen Cohen?

  Right. It's different now.

• 27:52Speaker 02

I think we're a lot more conscious now. I see crew are getting up early for the sunrise, meditating.

• 27:58Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 27:58Speaker 02

Journaling, doing yoga, doing, being there fit. You can see it in society that boy, uh, you know, men, young men are trying to be a lot fitter than they were 20 years ago.

• 28:08Jen Cohen?

It's become super trendy now to be.

• 28:10Speaker 02

Yoga, meditate, meditating. Um, yeah, look, breath works is a big thing. Um, I think crew are taking the more healthy approach to understanding that you can't keep working in these environments without a healthy body.

• 28:21Jen Cohen?

  Mm hmm.

• 28:22Speaker 02

And obviously, healthy body, then healthy mind, really.

• 28:25Jen Cohen?

Like, what are your habits? What do you do every day?

• 28:27Speaker 02

Wake up every morning, stretch for about half an hour.

• 28:30Jen Cohen?

What time do you wake up typically?

• 28:31Speaker 02

Uh, five ish, six, yeah, five thirty, six, yeah.

• 28:35Jen Cohen?

That's very, are you stretched for half?

• 28:37Speaker 02

If I'm with my daughter, I'm up at four because I go to bed at eight. So, um, yeah, so I stretch, I go for a walk, um, if I, if, if I'm not on land, if I'm on land, I go for a walk. I'll do my breath works. I just do my, I, I usually do that when I'm in bed. I'll put on Wim Hof and do that eleven minute three, three.

• 28:53Jen Cohen?

  He was on here too.

• 28:53Speaker 02

  Oh, really?

• 28:54Jen Cohen?

Yeah, I like Wim Hof. He's very nice.

• 28:56Speaker 02

And then, um, and then I'll do some, some fire breathing.

• 28:59Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 28:59Speaker 02

And, and then I'll just do some more stretching. I just do band exercises. Um, I'm, I used to play professional rugby league when I was young, so I've got a lot, few injuries.

• 29:06Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 29:07Speaker 02

So I find that, um, if I start getting into the gym, it's just too much.

• 29:12Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 29:12Speaker 02

Yeah, it's, the gym's too much. Lifting weights is too much for me. I actually, I find, I find getting into band exercises being more helpful and good for the core.

• 29:21Jen Cohen?

It is, yeah. So wait, so, cause you said earlier too, like your, your daughter lives in Bali, you know, you live in Bali. But like, you said you haven't, you didn't see her for a year.

• 29:31Speaker 02

Yeah, a year and a half, yeah.

• 29:32Jen Cohen?

Is it because your schedule with the?

• 29:34Speaker 02

I was, the COVID, I was stuck in, I was stuck in Australia on a boat. I couldn't leave, so.

• 29:39Jen Cohen?

But normally that's not the case.

• 29:40Speaker 02

Not, well, normally if I, a yacht captain, very rarely there is rotational jobs, two months on, two months off, but they're very hard to find. Um. Yeah, sometimes captain could be away at sea for ten months, so.

• 29:52Jen Cohen?

So how do you have like a regular, how do you have a life with like anybody?

• 29:56Speaker 02

Very difficult, very difficult. That's why my friends are friends on, that I, that my crew.

• 30:00Jen Cohen?

  Hundred percent.

• 30:00Speaker 02

Yeah, so we don't have a normal life and you take two months off, a month off, even as the captain, you're still on the laptop, you're still on the phone. And there's, uh, so many jobs waiting for captains as well. If you don't say yes to the conditions, uh, someone else will take it. So. Every time you're on holiday, you're threatened whether you're gonna keep your job or not. Like, it's like.

• 30:18Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 30:18Speaker 02

There, there, there's a mindset with yacht owners that, uh, you know, they're just always there. They're always, they're always, they're always part of the boat. Whereas, no, you can't have any time off. Um, there's a lot of, uh. A lot of marital breaks up, breakups in this industry.

• 30:32Jen Cohen?

So has anyone have a relationship or have kids?

• 30:34Speaker 02

Very happy. I, like, I find the same relationship breakups. In um in the mining, in the offshore stuff where you do a lot of one month on, one month off.

• 30:42Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 30:43Speaker 02

  Yeah, so.

• 30:44Jen Cohen?

Cause there's a lot of time away, like there's no.

• 30:46Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 30:46Jen Cohen?

Consistency in time, in terms of spending time.

• 30:49Speaker 02

Well, what I see is it's the same pattern is the um, you know, the the mother, let's just say the mother is uh at home with the children and the father's working away for a month or two. And then he comes home, he walks into the household, he thinks he's back.

• 31:01Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 31:01Speaker 02

Well, wait up, this has been my nest for two months without you.

• 31:04Jen Cohen?

  Exactly.

• 31:05Speaker 02

You know, don't just, don't just come in here just, so you always see like a week of teething into slowly walking into the relationship.

• 31:12Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 31:12Speaker 02

With arguments when you come back, um and then they finally get settled and then you feel then the wife or the mother feels like. About two weeks before they're departing, like starts to get that anxiety, like and he starts to get that anxiety. So. You know, the whole two months off is actually a a good portion of that is broken up with um, you know, unrest and.

• 31:32Jen Cohen?

A hundred percent. Well, there's no rhythm.

• 31:34Speaker 02

  No, there's no rhythm.

• 31:35Jen Cohen?

There's no rhythm, like it's constantly like upheaval and like, you know, growing apart and then you come back and it's like they already went on with their lives a little bit. And then you're kind of, so how do you, even with a kid, like you, what I think is amazing, and I noticed this yesterday when we met, is like. Any moment you can mention your daughter, you do, like you love your child so much, which is like beautiful, I love that. It must be really hard to be away from her like that much.

• 32:02Speaker 02

So when when this season, we, I put everything into building that place in the Philippines.

• 32:06Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 32:06Speaker 02

A nice little five star resort, you know, her mother really did a great job building it, even though we weren't together, we said, okay, you build it, we'll be fifty fifty. It just gave us uh, gave me, it's what I've always wanted was um, my daughter to grow up with a unique environment. So she grew up as this. A white blonde girl that speaks fluent Tagalog Filipina. She actually thinks she's Filipino, she's got that empathy.

• 32:29Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 32:30Speaker 02

She's got, oh, she just wants to, she just wants to give to other people, make sure everyone's uh looked after, which is just that true.

• 32:35Jen Cohen?

  Caretaker mentality.

• 32:36Speaker 02

That real true Filipino care. She grew up in a very remote location and we've given her that. And now they've moved to. They've moved to Bali now for a better education and um, yeah, look. I'm I'm proud that we've given that point, but when Below Deck happened and COVID happened, post-COVID, I was like, I don't care what happens. The next two years, I'm not gonna work. I don't care if I spend all my money, I'm gonna stay with my daughter. And I've done that probably eighty percent of the time. So if this goes nowhere, it goes nowhere. I'll just go back on to a boat. Okay, but now I'm actually trying to pick things up, see how much I can actually um really make the most out of this year. My two years is up.

• 33:13Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 33:13Speaker 02

So now I'm actually trying to get back.

• 33:15Jen Cohen?

  Your two years is up?

• 33:16Speaker 02

Two years that I set set out for her.

• 33:18Jen Cohen?

  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 33:19Speaker 02

Well, you know when it's up, when um I didn't see her from six to six to eight, now she's eight to ten.

• 33:26Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 33:27Speaker 02

And I gave her a kiss goodnight um for because she sleeps with me. We just got a one-bedroom villa in Bali. She sleeps with her mother who's got a one-bedroom. And um I gave her a kiss goodnight. She said, Papa, I need to talk to you about something. I said, what? She said, boundaries. I went, what boundaries? She goes, I don't think you can give me a kiss goodnight. I'm like, what? Not on the lips. I went, okay, but can I hug you? She goes, you can hug me goodnight, but no more kissing goodnight. I went, really?

• 33:52Jen Cohen?

Oh, my God, it's so sad.

• 33:53Speaker 02

So I rolled over, I rolled over and about two minutes later, she reached over and hugged me and gave me a kiss.

• 33:58Jen Cohen?

  Ah.

• 33:59Speaker 02

So I'm actually understanding that it's ah it's it's it's that time that, you know, I know she's only ten, but I know that she's becoming.

• 34:07Jen Cohen?

More of a a girl. I know, I know what you're talking about.

• 34:11Speaker 02

She won't let me see her with her top off anymore. She's got to have a top underneath her top, you know.

• 34:15Jen Cohen?

  Right, she's got a baby.

• 34:16Speaker 02

  She's she's.

• 34:18Jen Cohen?

I don't trust me. I'm always in the same thing. My little one turns ten in five weeks. And I know it's like a progress, like they were just like a baby or they still are your baby, right?

• 34:28Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 34:29Jen Cohen?

But like there's different rules and boundaries. I I'm getting the same conversation, so.

• 34:33Speaker 02

Yeah, I know that that's the hint of like, okay, well, I've I I can spread my wings.

• 34:37Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 34:38Speaker 02

Like, it's it's fine. I I've given her a good two years. I'll give her all my life, that's for sure. My whole life's about her, but I I know that I can. She's like, fine, we got FaceTime. I'm like.

• 34:48Jen Cohen?

  Is that what she says?

• 34:49Speaker 02

Whereas, you know, she misses, she rings me every day, but she's like, it's fine. As long as we can talk on FaceTime, it's fine. You know, but then she's like, come home, you know, and I need to see you. So I flew home. I had Christmas with my parents. My parents were not too well this year. So I had Christmas with them and um and um I flew home straight away to see her for a week, you know, as soon as I had a good hunk of time with my parents.

• 35:08Jen Cohen?

So where do you actually live?

• 35:10Speaker 02

Bali's, I've got a, I've got a home in Bali, but Philippines, we have the resort. So I'm actually been a little bit nomadic my, my entire life. But this year I'm trying to find some stability and actually look towards um the place to put some um anchors down.

• 35:25Jen Cohen?

Roots. Are you gonna, do you think you would ever live in the US?

• 35:29Speaker 02

Oh, she's in love with the LA. She's in love with the LA. She's in love with LA. I brought her here um last, last year and she's like, oh, yeah.

• 35:37Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 35:37Speaker 02

Why don't you live here, Papa, and I'll just come here and visit? I'm like, maybe.

• 35:41Jen Cohen?

  So you might move here?

• 35:42Speaker 02

Ah, look, I'm, I've got, I don't wanna even put any anxiety or thought, or thought into it to have any anxiety. I've got to get some stuff done this year. I've got a good first half. I've got a very busy first half of the year. And then once that's done, then I'll actually uh I'll put more thought into it then.

• 35:56Jen Cohen?

Wait, so how long did you say when you like shoot for the show? How long did you say it is? Like a?

• 36:00Speaker 02

It's six weeks, but then we do about um six months of editing.

• 36:04Jen Cohen?

  Um, right.

• 36:05Speaker 02

Then not editing the show, but just things we didn't pick up.

• 36:08Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 36:09Speaker 02

Or voiceovers that we didn't do. So I'll fly back to here once a month for about six months, probably six times, just to tidy up things that maybe after the, after each charter, we get into a green room and talk about that charter. Maybe my enthusiasm wasn't there. I was tired or something, or you know, maybe I just want, need to be, or be a bit more upbeat about this or can you be a little bit more firmer about that uh termination you did?

• 36:30Jen Cohen?

Right. And so they do give you guidance in terms of how you should?

• 36:34Speaker 02

Uh, no, this is much later. They, they.

• 36:38Jen Cohen?

So even, so after the season's done?

• 36:41Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 36:41Jen Cohen?

They kind of give you feedback on what you can do next time?

• 36:44Speaker 02

No, we'll fly, when they're editing and they're putting it together, our voiceovers or our interpretation of their interpretation of that moment may not have been that conducive to what happened. So they might just ask us to, can we use say that again, but with a bit more enthusiasm and then that's the clip. It's just, it's called pickups. It's editing, part of the editing, so.

• 37:05Jen Cohen?

No, I know. I used to have it pretty, I had this, I didn't, I wasn't, I didn't love it. I had a weight loss show and they had, but they had a bug in my ear, like, we, we don't like one of those things?

• 37:14Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:14Jen Cohen?

And they'd be like, go up to so and so and tell them this or that. It felt very contrived. They don't do that on your show?

• 37:21Speaker 02

  No.

• 37:21Jen Cohen?

  Oh, God, you're lucky.

• 37:23Speaker 02

Yeah, no, we're, I'm the captain of the boat. There's no way I'd run a boat.

• 37:26Jen Cohen?

Good. Okay, I know you kind of said that, but I didn't like sometimes it is Bravo. I mean, it's not like it's um like they're they're known for their very dramatic reality shows. So

• 37:39Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 37:39Jen Cohen?

  It just happens anyway.

• 37:40Speaker 02

This is good. This adds another uh this is the the thumb of the hand of theirs, I suppose, you know, whereas the with all the other stuff is very dramatic and and and reality and and it's got their their audience. We give the Bravo audience another aspect of reality, but doing a real job.

• 37:58Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 37:59Speaker 02

And it's good that they, I think it's just another genre, really, within a genre.

• 38:02Jen Cohen?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. What, how many years are you contractually like doing this gig?

• 38:07Speaker 02

Uh, season after season. So, you know, we just hope that the ratings are popping up and we get another one.

• 38:14Jen Cohen?

Right. So you don't know, like next year you may not be on.

• 38:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:17Jen Cohen?

So if this season does lousy, you're screwed, basically.

• 38:20Speaker 02

  That's, yeah.

• 38:21Jen Cohen?

And would you like, do you like doing TV? Like, would you want to do more of that stuff?

• 38:26Speaker 02

I honestly have met so many friends through the production and the and the people at the back.

• 38:31Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 38:31Speaker 02

They're very similar to ourselves. They're working away from home.

• 38:35Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 38:35Speaker 02

They're putting so many hours in, they're trying to create something for someone else, probably don't know when the next job's coming. Very much like I spoke about. They're all passionate about what they do and they they're working hard and trying to that's you honestly, to be quite honest, you could actually have cameras filming them and that could be a show as well.

• 38:54Jen Cohen?

Oh, my God, it's probably the best show.

• 38:56Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 38:56Jen Cohen?

It's probably the best drama show ever. I agree. How did you even become a captain, though? Like, what? Did you love the water? Or did you, did you love boats as a kid? Like, what was your evolution to be like, you know what? I want to become a captain of big boats.

• 39:10Speaker 02

Uh, well, in a short, I'll, I'll keep it short. I was, I did a mechanics apprenticeship. I became a mechanic and I got drafted to play professional rugby league. I was a good rugby league player back in the day.

• 39:21Jen Cohen?

  Um. Oh, wow.

• 39:23Speaker 02

I then did an apprenticeship as a plumber. Then I chose not to play football, but just uh rugby league. I, I just chose to play, chose to get married, actually. That's the first. No one knows that. I got married when I was very young.

• 39:34Jen Cohen?

  How old were you?

• 39:35Speaker 02

  I was twenty.

• 39:36Jen Cohen?

  Twen- twenty.

• 39:37Speaker 02

Married my high school girlfriend and then at twenty five, who we're still in touch with now, I was like, well, what are we doing? Like, so I actually gave up professional football to be with her. Um, but then I travelled. I went a year around South America. Um, then backpacked by myself and then hitchhiked around Middle East from Istanbul down to Cairo.

• 39:56Jen Cohen?

  You hitchhiked?

• 39:57Speaker 02

Yeah, and around South America as well. And then a friend of mine who I met in England got a, a job on a boat in Newport, Rhode Island. So I went back to Australia. I came to visit him and I just walked onto a boat.

• 40:10Jen Cohen?

  To do what? Just like?

• 40:11Speaker 02

Just to help. And the crew came back and the engineer said, this guy knows what he's doing. And, you know, like, let's take him to Miami to the shipyard. So they took me down there and um I started work. And they said, let's just do a season with him. So I did that. Um, long story short, went back to Australia for a year of football. Then came back and um got a job as an, an engineer on a boat. Went up to Newport, uh, New, New York, saw the World Trade Centers come down, went back. The boat didn't sell. It was owned by.

• 40:37Jen Cohen?

  The boat didn't sail?

• 40:38Speaker 02

The boat, sorry, the boat didn't sell. It was up for sale.

• 40:41Jen Cohen?

Oh, sell. The accent. That's why I keep on missing. No, I like it. It's just like I'm listening very intently.

• 40:46Speaker 02

We came back down in New York and after the season, the boat was for sale and it didn't sell.

• 40:51Jen Cohen?

  Uh. Okay.

• 40:51Speaker 02

Um, no one was buying it and it was a hundred and ten foot boat. And the owner's like, said, well, we'll take it to the Mediterranean. And I was the only one looking after it by myself. Cause it was for sale. And they said, we want you to drive it. And I said, I don't know how to drive. And they said, learn. So that was it. I was twenty eight years old, off to the Mediterranean, never been in the Mediterranean, never driven a boat before. And um I just uh, we took off and winged it.

• 41:14Jen Cohen?

  You just winged it?

• 41:15Speaker 02

  Winged it.

• 41:16Jen Cohen?

And then ever since then, you're a captain.

• 41:18Speaker 02

Ever since then, I've been winging it.

• 41:20Jen Cohen?

Seriously? What is like the protocol? Like, how does anyone become a captain? Is there like a school?

• 41:24Speaker 02

I had to do a certificate. I had I had sea time enough to actually do the certificate. So I had to pass the certificate to do that. But it just fell short under under a grade, which was great for me, easy to be able to get that, so get the certificate. So then I took off, I surrounded myself with good people and actually for about five, 10 years, I really just learned on the run. Um. And then eventually I end up driving um one of the biggest boats and um.

• 41:46Jen Cohen?

  What was the boat?

• 41:47Speaker 02

It was, what is it? Three hundred foot and um helicopters, everything can. And I, we had twenty eight crew. It was a huge boat. So I actually got to the point. And I thought, no, I'm too detached from the crew. I don't really like. I could stay up in the wheelhouse and never see a crew member for a week if I wanted to. I had a lounge up there, I had a kitchen, a galley, everything. So I thought, no, I'm, it's not me. I want more adventure, even though I could have retired on that job. So I saw.

• 42:12Jen Cohen?

How much does it pay in a boat like that?

• 42:14Speaker 02

Anywhere between fifteen to twenty thousand a month. So.

• 42:18Jen Cohen?

To be a captain of a three hundred foot boat?

• 42:20Speaker 02

Yeah, well, it goes up to thirty, thirty thousand.

• 42:22Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 42:23Speaker 02

Anywhere from fifteen to thirty thousand a month.

• 42:25Jen Cohen?

And then you get your tips and all that stuff or?

• 42:27Speaker 02

If you're a charter boat, yeah. Yeah. So but I go, I wa- I I could have retired on that job, but I it wasn't me. And I came back and bought land in Philippines and felt more. I actually learnt more driving around these remote areas and got more out of it. And that's kind of where a lot of where I am now. That's why I'm working with these charities that I work with.

• 42:46Jen Cohen?

I know. Tell me about that charity. I love that char- like the, what's it called?

• 42:49Speaker 02

  Classroom of Hope?

• 42:50Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, what is that?

• 42:51Speaker 02

We um, I've been looking for a plastic waste solution in Philippines, building our place. We get a lot of rubbish washing up. And I've been thinking, we used to grind our plastic up and put it into our foundations just to get rid of it.

• 43:02Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 43:02Speaker 02

So, yeah, I'll be looking at blocks and everything can, I came across this uh foundation in Indonesia. That use all fully recycled, you you make these blocks out of all recycled plastic waste. Twenty four thousand tons of plastic waste. A day wash up onto Indonesian rivers. And they have a big factory, they turn them into these Lego blocks and they build schools out of it. In two thousand and eighteen, four hundred schools got knocked down by earthquakes. This foundation that was there went in there to help because they're an education foundation. After that, they said, well, if we keep rebuilding these schools, they're just going to knock down again because there's earthquakes all the time. So then they found this solution. So they've rebuilt a hundred schools out of this solution.

• 43:46Speaker 02

I loved it. I went and visited them. They don't even just, it's not just about the schools, it's about the education. They're working with with each community and the chiefs to understand how they can help. Like the females there, if in their religion, if you if you run off with a boy, you have to get married. If you have a night with the boy, you have to get married. But the father of the boy is not going to let you marry unless she can get pregnant. So you need to get pregnant before you can get married and then you can get divorced too. So they're trying to teach these communities that there's a better way with education. You don't have to fall back on that, you know, we can actually have a better solution. So they're actually got so many aspects of these of this foundation that are helping the community. But on top of that, they're building these schools, rebuilding these schools out of a plastic waste recycle material.

• 44:31Speaker 02

And I'm a Paddy, I'm a Paddy diving ambassador for Paddy, the diving certificate.

• 44:36Jen Cohen?

  For what?

• 44:37Speaker 02

Paddy, Paddy is the dive certificate.

• 44:39Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 44:39Speaker 02

That we get, you get your diving courses through.

• 44:41Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 44:41Speaker 02

So I'm the Paddy diving ambassador. So ocean conservation is a big thing for me.

• 44:45Jen Cohen?

  Oh.

• 44:46Speaker 02

I just got my daughter certified. So we went on, I said, how can I help to this foundation? They said, would love to have you on board. So they gave me a school for a hundred and seventy one children, no bathrooms. The girls, every time they have their monthly, have to go home for a week because the, you know, it's just, there's no dignity there.

• 45:00Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 45:00Speaker 02

There's no bathroom. So that was the school I got given last year and I put it up, I threw it out there. Sheena off Vanderpump Rules threw five thousand dollars and got it started. And in four months, we raised a hundred thousand and I built the school and I took my daughter to open it and cut the ribbon. And last month, we went to Melbourne, Australia for a gala. We had to raise sixty thousand more. I spoke at the gala. We raised a hundred and forty thousand. It's a great foundation and it's fantastic. And my daughter's part of being there with it too, which is a good thing for her.

• 45:33Jen Cohen?

  Wow.

• 45:33Speaker 02

Last year, last month, I took her up into the mountains of Bali. There's another foundation, Bali for Rice. With all the construction that's going on in Bali.

• 45:41Jen Cohen?

  Bali for what?

• 45:42Speaker 02

  Bali for Rice.

• 45:43Jen Cohen?

  Rice?

• 45:44Speaker 02

  Rice, as in.

• 45:45Jen Cohen?

  As eating rice, okay.

• 45:46Speaker 02

And all the rice fields are getting taken for construction with all these foreigners' buildings. So there's a lot of elderly and, you know, and disabled people and special needs people that are actually not getting fed. So these foundations supply rice every week to these families and it's a great organisation. And there's plenty of, there's plenty of foreigners in Bali that are giving back. But look, Philippines is my heart and I'd love to take some stuff to Philippines in the future. But at the moment, I'm in Bali and it's something that I feel passionate about. And I don't know what to do on my social media. I'm not very good at it.

• 46:21Jen Cohen?

Do you do your own social media?

• 46:23Speaker 02

I do my own social media. Everyone's like, you've got to get more in front of the camera. And I'm like, okay, but I don't know what. But this is easy. It's something I'm passionate about. It aligns to the ocean conservation. I've got a child. Education's a big thing. I think my daughter's very lucky that she's growing up in a unique environment, you know. And she didn't want to hold the camera for me the other day when we were giving out the rice.

• 46:44Jen Cohen?

  She did not want to?

• 46:45Speaker 02

No. And I said to her later, I said, why didn't you want to do that, Saskia? And she said, um, I was embarrassed. I said, I know why you're embarrassed. And she said, tell me. And I said, because you've got more than them. And she said, you're right. I was like that in the Philippines, you know, to bring the people to our house because we had a bigger house. And I was like, Sass, this is just learning and I'm glad you've got that feeling because that's empathy. And that's not a bad thing and don't be shy of that. You know, you can, you can, you can be embarrassed and you can actually have empathy as well. But just know why you've got it. And it's because you have appreciation of what you have. And, you know, and these are the.

• 47:18Jen Cohen?

What a beautiful lesson that you just taught your, your child.

• 47:21Speaker 02

That's, that's all we have to do, you know, a little bit. We don't have to ask for much. And I think it's, it's, I think it's.

• 47:28Jen Cohen?

So she has gratitude, like, just from, like, having that environment. What's amazing to me is the, just the difference in terms of just where you raised your child, how they grow up, like in terms of their, like, mentality, their needs, their desires, like, like, because she never stepped foot here in America, right? She doesn't know from, from all this. She doesn't know from the fact that. Every kid here is stuck on their on their phone and they won't play outside or they don't do play dates or they are on social media like they're not doing that back there.

• 48:04Speaker 02

No, they're okay. She loves her iPad now when she can get it. She doesn't get it. She doesn't get it with her mum, but she gets it with me.

• 48:10Jen Cohen?

How much you give her the iPad?

• 48:12Speaker 02

Uh, look, I she gets, I would say a couple of hours a week.

• 48:15Jen Cohen?

  Oh, okay.

• 48:16Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 48:16Jen Cohen?

A couple, but you but you regulate it and you monitor it.

• 48:19Speaker 02

I'm pretty bad with it. Um, mum's good with it.

• 48:22Jen Cohen?

  Your mom, her mom.

• 48:23Speaker 02

But um, but you know, she.

• 48:24Jen Cohen?

  But two hours a week.

• 48:25Speaker 02

But she does crochet. She does crochet now, like, and she makes she does crocheting and stuff. She does.

• 48:30Jen Cohen?

  Really?

• 48:30Speaker 02

Yeah, she did. She does. She make things. She's got her her invisible friends. She's got her her other plastic, her other um dolls and stuff that she makes things for and she. She has a little word to it. She's the other day she said, you can't sit there. I said, well, she goes, blah, I can't remember.

• 48:44Jen Cohen?

  So so.

• 48:44Speaker 02

Big dog or something. And I'm like, oh, that's cute. I'm not gonna take that away from her. Like, that's great.

• 48:48Jen Cohen?

No, they should. That's an imagination.

• 48:50Speaker 02

And and and keep that imagination, you know, like allow it.

• 48:53Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 48:54Speaker 02

If we had it, we'd be fine. You know, entrepreneurs get have it.

• 48:57Jen Cohen?

Uh, we we do have, I mean, entrepreneurs do have it. You have to have, well, that's because, well, I I mean, this is how the whole thing, like, I I believe that we need to be bored sometimes. And when we were kids, we I was always bored, but that's where I believe, you know, boredom kind of breeds brilliance in a way, right? Because that's where creativity lives. That's where you think of different things. Like, if you're not bored and you're constantly distracted all the time, you're never gonna get those light bulb, like those those moments of genius.

• 49:26Speaker 02

Yeah, but you can actually visualize and imagine where the end is.

• 49:30Jen Cohen?

  Well, a hundred percent.

• 49:31Speaker 02

And not actually look at the obstacles in between.

• 49:33Jen Cohen?

Exactly. So then, if you're doing this stuff, like, you know, with the show, six weeks on, whatever, and then you do your pickups, how do you spend the rest of your time?

• 49:43Speaker 02

It's a good question. It's been a very, very low, low period.

• 49:47Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 49:47Speaker 02

Where I've actually moved in probably into a bit of a cave as well.

• 49:50Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 49:51Speaker 02

  Because I don't, when I'm out, I'm out.

• 49:52Jen Cohen?

  Right.

• 49:52Speaker 02

Um, when I've got these things, it's, you know, so health is a big thing. Um, I've just had a huge end of the year with my father with Alzheimer's, um, and.

• 50:02Jen Cohen?

  How old is your father?

• 50:03Speaker 02

They're they're turning eighty next year. So I just mum had a heart attack, dad had Alzheimer's. I flew back to help. My best mate passed away in a horrific accident. I had the melanoma. I had a diagnosis of melanoma. I had a lot going on and I think that's nothing but gonna propel me into where I really wanted to go anyway. I've always tipped around my yoga, my health, everything like that. But I wanna I wanna move right into like not the I'm not gonna say peak. I wanna see how far things my body can be, you know, I wanna know more about mind, cognitive behaviour, preventative reversing Alzheimer's a little bit, know about the foods that we what we can take.

• 50:47Speaker 02

You know, because I wanna know more about it because of my dad.

• 50:49Jen Cohen?

  Of course.

• 50:50Speaker 02

  And.

• 50:50Jen Cohen?

Did they actually diagnose him with Alzheimer's?

• 50:53Speaker 02

  Yeah, yeah.

• 50:53Jen Cohen?

How did they know? Did they do an MRI and scan his brain?

• 50:57Speaker 02

They did the whole lot. We always had for the last six or seven months, we could see changes. And then when mum had a heart attack, a triple bypass, and he was by himself, it just came on like a ton of bricks. And it's really there now. It's prevalent. And you know, he's now he's on medication to take that back. But I've been listening to a lot of podcasts, so I'm actually just trying to teach myself now. But I wanna see what I can do too. And I know that I've got a good journey ahead because of everything that just went that happened at the end of last year. So I'm thinking, wait up. So I'm doing manifesting and mindful coaching. I wanna do some journaling of where I can go and follow the journey.

• 51:29Jen Cohen?

  Mm hmm.

• 51:30Speaker 02

See where I am now. Start start selling some stuff online that, you know, to try and make a passive income. So I can actually try and use something from this. With Alzheimer's coming on with dad, I feel like I've got the opportunity to learn more about that. And I am doing mindful and manifesting coaching as well, which is good. I'm starting to do the therapy that my mate suggested when he passed before he passed away.

• 51:54Jen Cohen?

So you're doing, do you have a coach or you're coaching?

• 51:57Speaker 02

Yeah, I've got a coach now. I've done two sessions with her. I get a lot out of it too. She asked me the other day what what are the things I wanna get out of it? And I said, I want discipline, I want continuity and accountability and execution. And she said, explain that. I said, well. Um. You know, I've always been that person to go with the flow. So I want some, I want to be more disciplined to actually um set my targets and actually do it like, yeah. Go and see that person or go and do that. Like, don't just brush it off and go with, if it happens, it happens. Continuity is actually continuing and doing that. And accountability to me is not just of uh the things that are going wrong, but be accountable and appreciative of things that you are doing right.

• 52:37Speaker 02

So when people, probably not the sexy stuff that's going on, but like when people say, when people say, oh, you, you, you know, you, you did a good job or you did that, I'm gonna say thank you. You know, I appreciate that. Yeah, I'm gonna take that on. But write that down as well and and be be grateful every, every, every day and and and say that to myself every day as well. And then execution is to get, uh, get all of those things going and um.

• 53:00Jen Cohen?

So this is, so it's funny, the, the podcast is called Habits and Hustle, right? For a reason, right? Cause it's basically the habits and hustle of like the, the most successful people and the best experts and how they got from place A to place, to, to point A to point B. So we talk a lot on this podcast.

• 53:18Speaker 02

  Well, I'm in, I'm in A now. I'm in place A.

• 53:20Jen Cohen?

Hey, well, yeah, well, next time you'll be here, you'll be on, you'll be at place B.

• 53:24Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 53:24Jen Cohen?

And then C. But what I talked about, my entire platform is, is really based around discipline. You rely on discipline, you don't rely on motivation because motivation wanes. So does willpower to muscle. Just you can't, it, it doesn't, it doesn't last. So discipline is how you get from A to B and being consistent is, it's not about talent, it's really about being consistent day to day. It's not the most intense, but it's the most often like that. It's, and it's also the most boring stuff, right? Like doing the same things day in, day out gives you that mindset of, you know, of, of being accountable to yourself.

• 54:02Speaker 02

Well, that's where habits are formed is through subconscious and that's about you actually doing.

• 54:09Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 54:09Speaker 02

You know, you do it. It's action based. You, you know, if I, if I pick up that phone every day, if I pick up that phone every day, if I pick up that phone every day at nine o'clock, eventually next minute, I'm just doing it without even nine o'clock coming.

• 54:21Jen Cohen?

  A hundred percent.

• 54:22Speaker 02

And that's what, that's what it for. I just use that analogy because there's a phone there, but you know what I mean?

• 54:25Jen Cohen?

  Well, it's routine, right?

• 54:26Speaker 02

And it, but it's body movement. It's body movement. I think, you know, it's not just mental. It's not just saying it. It's actually doing.

• 54:33Jen Cohen?

No, it's not. Definitely not just saying it.

• 54:34Speaker 02

You've got to move your body into that habit.

• 54:37Jen Cohen?

But you have to make habits. Like, that's why, you know, people laugh at me because I'm very regimented. But if you're not reg, if you're not to a certain degree regimented, things don't get done, right? Like, if you have goals, you have to have some type of, of plan and you've got to execute on that plan or things will just like, you know, maybe it can happen, maybe it won't, right? But with your lifestyle, you have a very, very, like, it's, it's, it's an all over the place lifestyle, right? Like, you're on a boat, then you're not on a boat. It's like, you may have work, you may not have work.

• 55:08Speaker 02

Very hard. The habits fall off.

• 55:10Jen Cohen?

  It's very difficult.

• 55:11Speaker 02

It's very hard to actually have that, even, even traveling with the, the stuff that I like to eat. You know, I, I found that

• 55:16Jen Cohen?

  Totally.

• 55:16Speaker 02

This year, my body went down a little bit in health because I was such on the move, I was on the move for three months. But usually when I'm in that little mode and I've got my things I do every day, I eat my, my turmeric, my ginger, my onion, my garlic, all that.

• 55:27Jen Cohen?

  Yes.

• 55:27Speaker 02

You know, you know, take my Brazil nuts and stuff like that. If I do, if I'm doing all that, or, you know, I'll take my creatine every day.

• 55:34Jen Cohen?

Oh, I have creatine for you. Have you ever tried this creatine?

• 55:37Speaker 02

No, but you've got the magic mine there.

• 55:38Jen Cohen?

  The magic mine.

• 55:39Speaker 02

  I've, um.

• 55:40Jen Cohen?

Can, by the way, we totally forgot about this. Can we have to do this shot?

• 55:43Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 55:43Jen Cohen?

Normally we do this at the beginning of the podcast, but, and I've had like a lot of these today, but.

• 55:48Speaker 02

These are my, these, these honestly does work. I was.

• 55:50Jen Cohen?

I know it does. And it's like, and the ingredients, I wouldn't be even doing these shots if it didn't work. I've, I've tried tons of these different types and this one is by far, the ingredients are the best. Try it.

• 56:01Speaker 02

  Cheers.

• 56:02Jen Cohen?

  Oh, cheers. Okay.

• 56:04Speaker 02

I always leave a bit in there to get the bottom.

• 56:06Jen Cohen?

Really? Cause you could, did you shake it enough?

• 56:08Speaker 02

  Probably not.

• 56:09Jen Cohen?

Yeah, I shake, I've got to shake it and then now you're going to be super focused for someone else's podcast.

• 56:14Speaker 02

Well, I have not had one of these for about a year. And when I did have one, it changed me and I would love to, sponsored by.

• 56:24Jen Cohen?

I will, I will definitely set you up with them because this is a great company. Also creatine, have you tried this? I love the momentous creatine. It'd be, it'd be perfect for you because they do these travels now. I'm going to show you. They're like, you can take it with you and you could just, they're, they're in individual packs. Do you do creatine?

• 56:42Speaker 02

Yeah, I did some today. Yeah.

• 56:44Jen Cohen?

Good. So like, these are the things, like, these are like habits that you can get into that are healthy.

• 56:48Speaker 02

Totally. But traveling is a big thing. What do I travel? How can, how can I travel around with the most, with the less things?

• 56:54Jen Cohen?

Well, that's what I'm saying. Like these little travel packs. Do you do any kind of other wellness modalities? Like, do you do red light? Do you do the sauna? Do you do all those things?

• 57:02Speaker 02

I, I ice bath a couple of times a week. Easy. Um, red light sauna for sure.

• 57:07Jen Cohen?

Okay. You mean infrared sauna or?

• 57:09Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 57:09Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 57:10Speaker 02

So I'd, I'd love to do red light therapy. I've been looking into it.

• 57:13Jen Cohen?

  You've never tried it before?

• 57:14Speaker 02

No, I, I understand the concept of it for sure. From a light frequency point of view, I've read about it or understand it that, yeah, that ailments in your body are broken up through your light frequency. The red light actually brings it back together. Um, and I, I, I'm, I'm across all that. I, well, I'm not across it, but I, I definitely, um, believe all that.

• 57:32Jen Cohen?

I'm going to give you some.

• 57:33Speaker 02

  It's not a belief. It's a, it's a fact.

• 57:34Jen Cohen?

Well, it's, I'm going to, I'm going to, you're going to leave here today with like so many like wellness gifts because I love this thing. It's called the Trilite Red Light. It's a, it's a red light by this company called Therasage, who has like, in my opinion, the best red light. But I travel with it and you can like, it's like a, a panel and then you can put it wherever. Like, so you could put it on your leg. You could put it on your face.

• 57:55Speaker 02

I just had a rotator cuff injury for last month, you know?

• 57:58Jen Cohen?

  Okay. So that's perfect.

• 57:59Speaker 02

It's good now. And, um, I actually think I, I did the NAD IV 500 milligrams. And then I did another one a week after that and it did improve it a hell of a lot.

• 58:09Jen Cohen?

  You felt a difference?

• 58:10Speaker 02

Well, actually, when it was going in, I actually felt that was the pain straight away. So they say it goes straight to, to where you need it.

• 58:16Jen Cohen?

Wherever you need it. Did you get nauseous with the?

• 58:19Speaker 02

No, I said, I cranked it right up. It was fine.

• 58:21Jen Cohen?

  How long did it take?

• 58:23Speaker 02

  I reckon forty five minutes.

• 58:25Jen Cohen?

Yeah, I mean, like, that's actually a lot. Well, if it if it takes like, if you, you know, if you do it really, really fast, I I get so nauseous on those things.

• 58:33Speaker 02

I could, yeah, you'd feel it. It was just, yeah, it felt like did a couple of shots of tequila.

• 58:37Jen Cohen?

Right. I mean, I think tequilas would be better than the than the shot, but are you a drinker then? Cause you are from.

• 58:42Speaker 02

I do. I look, be quite honest, in this industry that I I'm in, obviously, I loved it. Um, but now I do big moments of of no, no.

• 58:52Jen Cohen?

  No alcohol, yeah.

• 58:53Speaker 02

No alcohol, um, and big moments of, or not big moments, but moments of yes. Look, I love a steak and a glass of red wine. I love going out once a, once in a while, but I must admit I'm a bit more, as I said, introverted these days. I don't go out too much. If I'm in Bali, I'm with my daughter. I don't go out. Um, so if I am traveling, you know, look, I don't want to be drinking at events anymore. Like I do, I want to be focused. So so that's my rule. But if I'm with friends and stuff and there's something on and I feel comfortable and in a good position, um, I will. But I I actually have a, you know, the anxiety, you know, when the the day after.

• 59:25Jen Cohen?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't drink, so I would.

• 59:27Speaker 02

It's just, it's just not me. It's just not me. I I don't like waking up in an environment, if I'm in a safe environment, I'll I'll do it.

• 59:35Jen Cohen?

Right. So, yeah, cause I I think drinking, in my opinion, is like the number one most terrible thing you can do for your body.

• 59:42Speaker 02

Totally agree. I've had, uh, last year, I went November till May, nothing. Look, we were talking about this today in the car. Like the focus you get after three months is just insane. It's so, it's so worth it. But, you know, I I just love sitting with a nice big steak and a glass of red as well.

• 59:59Jen Cohen?

I know. I like steak. Steak's good. Like, that's protein.

• 1:00:01Speaker 02

Oh, totally. That's all I'll eat.

• 1:00:03Jen Cohen?

Can you have it with something else, like a, like a carbonated water?

• 1:00:06Speaker 02

  I'll try.

• 1:00:07Jen Cohen?

It's not the same, I know.

• 1:00:08Speaker 02

Well, I know, but I've been looking at Newatropics. There's a company in Australia I I was going to talk to, you know, they do a gin and tonic, they do a a an Aperol spritz, and it's all alcohol-free, sugar-free. And I'd love to work with a company like that. There's, there's another one in New Zealand called, um, Apera. Apera, they do a.

• 1:00:25Jen Cohen?

  What do they do?

• 1:00:26Speaker 02

They do a black currant. It's Newatropics.

• 1:00:29Jen Cohen?

No, nootropus is usually like a brain supplement of some kind.

• 1:00:32Speaker 02

  Well, it's a, yeah, it's a.

• 1:00:34Jen Cohen?

  But what is this exactly?

• 1:00:35Speaker 02

These are drinks. These are drinks that actually support cognitive behavior, like which is just made out of.

• 1:00:40Jen Cohen?

Oh, okay. But it's not, is there alcohol or no?

• 1:00:42Speaker 02

  No, no alcohol.

• 1:00:43Jen Cohen?

Oh, no alcohol. That's what I was gonna say. That doesn't sound.

• 1:00:45Speaker 02

They taste like alcohol. It's a gin and tonic. It's an Aperol spritz and it's a Moscow Mule, but it's no alcohol, no sugar. And, um, you know, there's, there's good.

• 1:00:54Jen Cohen?

So it mimics the drink in terms of taste?

• 1:00:56Speaker 02

But it's using nootropics, plant-based, so.

• 1:00:59Jen Cohen?

  Interesting.

• 1:00:59Speaker 02

Yeah, so there's a few of them coming out now.

• 1:01:01Jen Cohen?

There's so much of this stuff. I mean, it's so overwhelming. This is now like, this is my life and every day I'm like noticing, I'm getting, I'm talking. I mean, it's like, there's so much of all of this.

• 1:01:12Speaker 02

Well, this is why I've brought out a fragrance this year. I've got a fragrance I'm bringing out because I usually do essential oils. So I have a fragrance launching in March.

• 1:01:20Jen Cohen?

  You do?

• 1:01:21Speaker 02

Yeah. Do you want to pass me the fragrance?

• 1:01:22Jen Cohen?

Oh, so you are doing a lot of side hustles?

• 1:01:25Speaker 02

  I am starting now.

• 1:01:26Jen Cohen?

Yeah. What made, so yeah, so.

• 1:01:28Speaker 02

  Well, I usually do.

• 1:01:28Jen Cohen?

People need to pay you more, apparently.

• 1:01:31Speaker 02

I usually do, um, I usually do a lot of essential oils, spray face mist on, on, on crew and, and on the sound, on the sound.

• 1:01:38Jen Cohen?

Oh, okay. Let me see this.

• 1:01:39Speaker 02

And on the sound and production team. So in Bali, I started doing this, um, I started learning about fragrances. So I put it, it's a gender neutral fragrance and, um, that's coming out in March. Now, I didn't want to promote alcohol. Everyone does promote spritzes and everything. So this was something that I thought was totally different. It's along what I like. I always had my essential oils and I thought, well, I'll, I'll do a fragrance and it's, it's, I sat down for about two or three months. It's taken about eight months to come. Uh, it's for about two or three months to develop the, um, the scent. And it's actually kind of me on a boat, the sand, waterfalls. It's got some earthy tones and it's definitely, um, definitely got some nature there. And it's long lasting and it's actually done by some beautiful people that have actually got some great hearts.

• 1:02:21Jen Cohen?

Wow. Where are you gonna sell it?

• 1:02:22Speaker 02

It'll be on my website, which is coming out soon, which is Captain's Lounge.

• 1:02:26Jen Cohen?

  Captain's?

• 1:02:27Speaker 02

The Captain, uh, Captain's Lounge dot life.

• 1:02:29Jen Cohen?

  Okay.

• 1:02:30Speaker 02

Uh, which will be on my Instagram and that'll be dropping in February. So.

• 1:02:34Jen Cohen?

Have you not promoted this at all yet?

• 1:02:36Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:02:37Jen Cohen?

You don't, okay. So how, can you, are you gonna have someone to try to get it into like the department stores or?

• 1:02:41Speaker 02

Uh, eventually, yeah. Well, um, I'll work on it. Yeah.

• 1:02:44Jen Cohen?

Who, who actually, do you have a, like, who's making it? Does someone come to you and say, hey?

• 1:02:48Speaker 02

  No, it's just me.

• 1:02:49Jen Cohen?

  This is all you?

• 1:02:50Speaker 02

  It's just me.

• 1:02:50Jen Cohen?

Who paid for all the manufacturing?

• 1:02:52Speaker 02

  Me, yeah.

• 1:02:54Jen Cohen?

Really? Do you have an agent?

• 1:02:56Speaker 02

  No.

• 1:02:57Jen Cohen?

You don't have an agent or anything? So it's just basically like you going out there and like making your own deals?

• 1:03:02Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:03:02Jen Cohen?

Wow. Do you think maybe you should get an agent or?

• 1:03:05Speaker 02

  Don't know.

• 1:03:06Jen Cohen?

  Really? I mean.

• 1:03:07Speaker 02

  I'm a boat captain.

• 1:03:08Jen Cohen?

I'm gonna give you some business one oh one.

• 1:03:09Speaker 02

  You can do.

• 1:03:10Jen Cohen?

You're on a big reality show. This is my little like, you're on a, you're on a major, major reality show on Bravo. The women obviously really like you according to Bravo. Why would you not get an agent to find you some like endorsement deals? And some speaking gigs?

• 1:03:26Speaker 02

  Let's go.

• 1:03:27Jen Cohen?

I mean, I would think, I mean, I think that would be like a, that would be the next evolution of your career.

• 1:03:33Speaker 02

Maybe that's part of one is discipline, um, probably, um, a little bit more confidence and less insecurities. I could probably do that. I don't know. I'm, I'm a fish out of water in all this.

• 1:03:41Jen Cohen?

You are. You're just like a captain of a boat and like this whole thing just happened.

• 1:03:44Speaker 02

I can drive a boat with thirty people and crew and do all that there and make decisions and make on the spot. You know, emergency decisions and stuff and look after your life and take it for the best ride of your life.

• 1:03:54Jen Cohen?

  Right, but.

• 1:03:55Speaker 02

Um, when it comes to open up that laptop and looking behind the screens of that social media, I got no idea.

• 1:03:59Jen Cohen?

So wait a minute. So no agent has reached out to you? No manager has reached out to you?

• 1:04:03Speaker 02

I had a manager for a while. Not much came through. I had a good deal with, uh, InvisiLine. I had.

• 1:04:08Jen Cohen?

  Yeah, that's a good one.

• 1:04:09Speaker 02

Yeah, I had a good deal with, um, Johnson and Johnson with, um, with, um, Accu, Accu, AccuV.

• 1:04:15Jen Cohen?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:15Speaker 02

So they've been good. They're the things that have got me through. But when it comes to doing the stuff for myself, I've never.

• 1:04:20Jen Cohen?

But those are big ones, like Johnson and Johnson, like, like InvisiLine, those pay like a lot of money.

• 1:04:26Speaker 02

  Yeah, it was good.

• 1:04:27Jen Cohen?

So how, so if you had an agent or somebody to like go up there and like pitch you more regularly or in an agency, you'd be getting things like that all the time.

• 1:04:35Speaker 02

Let's go. But I have this philosophy and I actually think I'm sticking to it pretty good. I do not want to be selling things everywhere all the time.

• 1:04:44Jen Cohen?

  No, you do not.

• 1:04:44Speaker 02

I wanna, I wanna be true to what is for me and what I stand for. So when I do try to voice something like that, now there'll be a portion of every sale of anything I ever do that'll go back to a project.

• 1:04:56Jen Cohen?

Of course it would, cause you're a nice guy.

• 1:04:58Speaker 02

Well, which, that's, that's where I'll get the love out of it, you know?

• 1:05:01Jen Cohen?

That's amazing. You know, I, I have an idea for you. You know what you'd be, you'd do great at, I think, because of who would watch it? Like, if you were to do like some kind of like partnership with like a QVC or an HSN, because the people who watch QVC and HSN, there's like the shopping networks, are the same people who are watching reality TV. They love reality, you know, they love The Real Housewives. I'm sure they love your show Below Deck. If you were to do like some kind of partnership with them, they would be able to make this, so you wouldn't have to pay for the manufacturing or any of that. And then they could put you on the show and you would go, you would, you would basically sell on their, you know, block of time. And the women would love to see you because they love you probably already.

• 1:05:44Speaker 02

  Shirt on or shirt off?

• 1:05:45Jen Cohen?

Shirt, I, I think shirt off would probably do better.

• 1:05:48Speaker 02

  Check.

• 1:05:49Jen Cohen?

But if you, maybe you could do like a tight tank top. It could, you could like meet in the middle or something, you know what I mean?

• 1:05:54Speaker 02

  I got you.

• 1:05:54Jen Cohen?

But to me, that would be like a great, a great money gig for you. And that way, like, right now, you're, you're paying for the manufacturing of this, right? You're paying for all of this, like, all that heavy lifting is coming from your pocket.

• 1:06:07Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 1:06:07Jen Cohen?

Yeah. And so like, you would, like, this is what I, like, I think it's a no-brainer. There are people who I meet in LA who literally don't have even half of what you have. They don't even have, like, they have like one season of some, you know, bodunk horrible reality show from some shitty network. And they're out there with their agents and their managers and their publicists trying to like hawk something. You're actually like a really decent guy who's got a very nice way about you on a massive hit show, three seasons in, and like, you're making your own perfume? Are you kidding me right now?

• 1:06:41Speaker 02

I'm just, I'm just hiding away in Bali somewhere. I really, I'm, I need to get out there, I need to be represented a bit better and probably learn a bit more, I suppose. So, you know, but meeting you has probably given me a little bit of, I'll take this on. It's a little bit of discipline and maybe a little bit more advice would be great.

• 1:06:56Jen Cohen?

I'm gonna give you more, I mean, listen, I, I'm like shocked at what I'm hearing. I mean, you know this, right, from Bravo friend Haley?

• 1:07:03Speaker 02

But they're not going to give us any.

• 1:07:05Jen Cohen?

No, they're not gonna help you with that. But like, if you were, if you were really touted like the sexiest man on Bravo or sexiest reality star, that headline itself, you can leverage that to like so many different endorsement deals, you can probably get a book deal. I could make you millions of dollars by next year.

• 1:07:24Speaker 02

• 1:07:25Jen Cohen?
