Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who,

I grew up in Gold Country. It's like where the gold rush happened. And so we have a mine that is still operating called the Empire Mine.

• 1:28Andrew Manganelli?

  A mime?

• 1:31David Imel?

That is, whoa, you're kind of mesmerizing right now.

• 1:34Speaker 01

  Audio listeners will have to...

• 1:35David Imel?

  Yeah, Adam was just miming.

• 1:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Podcast worst nightmare, the mime.

• 1:40David Imel?

  Well, mine is still operating.

• 1:41Speaker 03

Mime podcast would be so funny, like, I'm in a box, I'm in a box, I'm still in the box, I can't get out of the box, the box is getting smaller.

• 1:52Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts, I'm Marques.

• 1:57Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:58David Imel?

  And I'm David.

• 1:59Speaker 01

  This week...

• 2:01Speaker 01

I almost forgot. That's the new intro. Okay, this week, we've got someone in a pickle. So many nothing products, Samsung and Pixel event teasers. So we'll talk about what we expect from some of those. A new Twitter video editing tool. And David apparently wants to rant about something.

• 2:18David Imel?

And it's sort of rant, yeah.

• 2:19Speaker 01

Sort, he wants to sort of rant about something.

• 2:20Andrew Manganelli?

Sort of rant is probably just means insane rant.

• 2:23Speaker 01

He wants to crash out about something.

• 2:24David Imel?

  It's not insane.

• 2:26Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm ready for it.

• 2:27David Imel?

It's a deep rabbit hole that I fell down last night.

• 2:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Life altering.

• 2:30Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 2:30David Imel?

  Life altering. Nice.

• 2:33Speaker 01

  But first.

• 2:35David Imel?

  Did they even test this?

• 2:37Andrew Manganelli?

I have a positive one today.

• 2:38David Imel?

Whoa, you mean they did test this really hard?

• 2:41Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, this is, we've probably talked about it on the pod before, but every six months, I think of a song and I can't remember what it is and I don't know any of the words to it. And I always find myself coming back to the Google search a song feature. And it's great every single time.

• 2:58Speaker 01

Every six months on the dot, like to the minute?

• 3:01Andrew Manganelli?

Not to the minute, but I did, you can look at your recent, quote, recent searches and my last searches were, it's July right now, we're December, then May, then January.

• 3:12Speaker 01

This is the feature where you can just start singing slash humming a song.

• 3:16Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, so if you have the search, the, the search bar widget and press the mic, the microphone button, then press search a song under that. It says you can either play, hum, or sing a song. I basically just mumble a bunch because I'm sure like many other people.

• 3:31David Imel?

  Mumble core.

• 3:31Andrew Manganelli?

You like know a song, but you don't actually know the words, but you can still kind of sing along to it with just a bunch of made up words. And you can do that into the Google thing and it works almost every time. It gives you some options and there's a good chance that one of those options are the thing that you're looking for.

• 3:44David Imel?

  It's good.

• 3:45Speaker 01

  Can I?

• 3:45David Imel?

  Yeah. What was the song?

• 3:47Andrew Manganelli?

It was actually a Streetlight Manifesto song. I was trying to find out this morning.

• 3:51David Imel?

  Very interesting.

• 3:52Andrew Manganelli?

Can you sing it for us? It's Hand That Thieves.

• 3:54David Imel?

  The Hands That Thieves.

• 3:55Speaker 01

I'm starting to think you guys are like sponsored by them or something.

• 3:57Andrew Manganelli?

  I can't say, I can't tell.

• 3:58Speaker 01

They got that kind of money.

• 4:00David Imel?

They have no money. They have no money. They have to tour all year to make ends meet, bro.

• 4:03Andrew Manganelli?

  New Jersey natives, bro.

• 4:05David Imel?

  Yeah, they're New Jersey natives.

• 4:06Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, I can remember homies. David's not, but they are.

• 4:09David Imel?

Yeah, but they're spiritually from NorCal because they're.

• 4:12Andrew Manganelli?

  From New Jersey?

• 4:13David Imel?

  They're not Scott, but they're.

• 4:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Cause they're Scott.

• 4:15David Imel?

  They're Scott. Okay, we're, let's move on.

• 4:17Andrew Manganelli?

If I had to pick the epitome of Scott, I think I would pick.

• 4:19David Imel?

  Okay, we can move on.

• 4:22Speaker 01

  What I will say.

• 4:22David Imel?

You about to be with us later.

• 4:24Speaker 01

I do want to say, this is like the textbook Sherlock example where, remember we used to have Shazam as a separate app?

• 4:32David Imel?

  Which Apple owns.

• 4:33Speaker 01

And I used to also, so I remember this is probably like almost 15 years ago, Shazam was pretty good for identifying certain songs, but SoundHound was pretty good at identifying other certain songs. So I was like, I, I can usually get like a pop song or whatever on the radio from Shazam. But then I was taking like a pre-college class at Carnegie Mellon and like audio engineering and one of the, one of my classmates was like, you gotta try SoundHound. And I was like, oh my God, it's so much better than Shazam. So I was like, if you knew, you knew SoundHound is better. And so it was two separate apps competing to be the best at identifying songs. As you mentioned, SoundHound or Shazam gets acquired. It's like literally built into your quick settings on the iPhone now. And you literally do not need an app separately on your phone. If you have a Google phone, you can just hold, hold it up in the air and it'll just tell you what song is playing without you even asking.

• 5:17Speaker 01

Uh, and of course, Google Assistant, if you hum a song can tell you it, which is what SoundHound was better at than Shazam back in the day, but now Sherlocked. You don't need any of them. It's built into your phone.

• 5:27David Imel?

Yeah, I, I'm actually surprised that Siri never got rid of the Shazam branding. Cause I don't think younger people know what Shazam is, cause that was only a thing for like our generation.

• 5:37Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:38David Imel?

And it still is called Shazam. It's still the Shazam icon in your quick settings. When you identify a song, it brings up the Shazam app. I feel like, I don't know, at this point, Apple should just.

• 5:49Speaker 01

It's like a verb though. It's a strong enough brand. It's like Kleenex. Like I'm gonna Shazam it.

• 5:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It was. I think it's.

• 5:54Speaker 01

  But you, yeah, now.

• 5:55David Imel?

  Older people.

• 5:56Speaker 01

Yeah. For us, older people, we know what Shazam it means.

• 6:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:01Speaker 01

If you're younger than a certain age, if I say Shazam it, maybe you don't know what that means.

• 6:05David Imel?

Usually people just say, what's the song? And then it does it, you know?

• 6:09Speaker 01

But do they not know that it's, I guess they don't know.

• 6:11David Imel?

  I don't think they know it's Shazam.

• 6:12Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know.

• 6:13David Imel?

When they think Shazam, they think the like superhero movie.

• 6:16Andrew Manganelli?

The Shaq one? That's way older than actual Shazam.

• 6:20David Imel?

No, the new one, the new one.

• 6:21Speaker 01

  There's a new Shazam?

• 6:22David Imel?

  Isn't that what it is?

• 6:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Shazam, yeah.

• 6:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:24Speaker 01

  Damn.

• 6:24David Imel?

The kid that turns into the big buff guy? Yeah. And I heard it was pretty good.

• 6:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Does it remake Shazam?

• 6:31David Imel?

It was like five years ago.

• 6:33Andrew Manganelli?

  That's definitely a remake, then. That's crazy.

• 6:36David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:36Andrew Manganelli?

  But yeah, no.

• 6:37David Imel?

It was apparently good. I think there's a second one, too. Anyway.

• 6:41Andrew Manganelli?

The, um, I forgot about, I do use the Pixel, like, what's playing thing all the time.

• 6:46David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:46Andrew Manganelli?

Like, I just like instinctively, yeah, at a restaurant or something, just double tap my, like, phone to just see what it is.

• 6:52David Imel?

  It's a great feature.

• 6:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It really is.

• 6:54David Imel?

Google had this run for multiple years where every single year when a new Pixel came out, they had new ambient computing features that just, like, lived on your phone, and it was so great.

• 7:02Andrew Manganelli?

I was thinking of a studio video idea the other day. Maybe it could be a podcast, but like, tier listing the top gimmicks on phones.

• 7:09David Imel?

  Oh.

• 7:10Andrew Manganelli?

Like, which ones actually became things. Like, back then, it was like, oh, this is cool. It shows that it can do it, but none of us really care. And then years later, you're like, no, I still use that pretty often.

• 7:19David Imel?

We're all still using Soli every day.

• 7:20Speaker 01

We can do like a, like a tier list of those, like.

• 7:23Andrew Manganelli?

I think a tier list of.

• 7:24Speaker 01

Like, privacy screen is like B tier, probably.

• 7:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 7:29Speaker 01

  On Samsung phones.

• 7:30Andrew Manganelli?

  LG Wing, S plus tier.

• 7:31Speaker 01

Just. Or like, uh, there are some bad ones, too. Obviously, the Soli stuff with the LG phones.

• 7:37David Imel?

  Hemoglobin.

• 7:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Vane ID.

• 7:39David Imel?

  Vane ID.

• 7:40Speaker 01

The fact that I know what you mean when you do hemoglobin is insane, but yes, that was like an F tier.

• 7:46David Imel?

  G7 thin Q, baby.

• 7:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:48David Imel?

What a great, great phone. Yeah, Soli for sure.

• 7:52Andrew Manganelli?

Cool. We also have an update I wanted to throw in here. Joanna Stern tweeted about this this morning, but we've talked about it on the pod also, that Meta is pushing a mandatory software update to stop people's Meta glasses that have their LEDs drilled out. If you cover up the LED, it can, it knows that you're doing that, and therefore you can record without it, or you can't record. But people were finding ways to drill out the LEDs to kill the light for recording secretly, which is creepy and should never happen. Joanna Stern did a great video on it. We talked about it. Meta even brought it up at the launch of their last pair of glasses. Apparently, they're finally pushing an update to stop people from tampering. I'm hoping that means they.

• 8:35Andrew Manganelli?

Figured out how to, uh, anyone who's already done it be able to tell.

• 8:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:41Andrew Manganelli?

Cause the way they were doing it was this extremely specific way that like, I guess the glasses couldn't tell it got tampered with.

• 8:47Speaker 01

Yeah, the current was still going through, but the LED was just not there.

• 8:50Andrew Manganelli?

  Not showing, okay.

• 8:51Speaker 01

So the glasses thought that it was still pushing the, the current to the LED, but there was no LED.

• 8:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 8:57Speaker 01

So I think they probably figured out a way around that.

• 9:00Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I hope they found, I hope this actually works. Um, I still think they're like, should be red and I think it should be recording literally anytime the camera is accessing information at all. Cause we saw that stuff about like activating AI or, and that's actually recording stuff. So.

• 9:16Speaker 01

Initiative to push notification to everyone in a five mile radius.

• 9:21Andrew Manganelli?

But while I wish it was, you know, those things were still there, give them credit, good step, fix that, or hopefully that's fixed because.

• 9:28Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:29Andrew Manganelli?

That LED needs to be recording.

• 9:31Speaker 01

  For sure.

• 9:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Um, okay.

• 9:32Speaker 04

Wait, you mean the LED needs to be lit?

• 9:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 9:34Speaker 04

  While.

• 9:35Andrew Manganelli?

  While recording.

• 9:35Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 9:36Speaker 04

  Yep.

• 9:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes. Thank you.

• 9:38Speaker 01

Another update. I got an email.

• 9:40Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, my guys got an email.

• 9:42Speaker 01

  I got a certain email.

• 9:43Speaker 04

  That's it. That's the news.

• 9:45Speaker 01

Yeah. It was an email that I, you know, I get a lot of emails. This is when I, I paused for a while and I was like trying to remember what it was even about. But it goes like this. Hi, I'm Daniel, the founder and CEO of Pickle. We promised Pickle one by the end of June and we missed that date. That's entirely on us and I'm sincerely sorry. We have decided to cancel this preorder batch and refund every deposit. The units need more work to meet the standard we promised you. So we are returning your money now while we continue to build. And I went, oh, right.

• 10:17Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 10:18Speaker 01

I pre-ordered a pickle. I did preorder a pickle. Remember like how many weeks ago was it that we talked about these random?

• 10:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Weeks?

• 10:24Speaker 01

AI. Months, probably. Yeah. These random AI startups that are trying to do interesting hardware.

• 10:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, Pickle was January.

• 10:31Speaker 01

  Pickle.

• 10:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 10:32Speaker 01

Yeah, that was one of them.

• 10:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 10:33Speaker 01

And they, you know, there are some people on Twitter who were sort of declaring ahead of time that they were not going to ship on time and they didn't, obviously.

• 10:41Andrew Manganelli?

Well, yeah, if you forget what Pickle was, we talked about in January, they were a pair of glasses. They were very slim, kind of funky looking, but like if, if you think about Snap specs and think about the, what Pickle showed, these actually looked like glasses. The difference is Snap specs are real. Pickle, no one ever thought was going to be real.

• 11:01Speaker 01

  Fair enough. Debatable.

• 11:03Andrew Manganelli?

I'm, I don't know. They, so they were, uh, what they claimed the world's first soul computer. I was reading back our old doc on this and it's more insane than I thought it was.

• 11:13David Imel?

  Oh, no.

• 11:13Andrew Manganelli?

First ever soul computer. There were 68 grams, had binocular, full color AR displays, the widest field of view or brightness of any AR display glasses, lightest personal computer in history. And they had a Pickle OS, which was a memory-based operating system that would, through your camera and live streams, record your memories and turn them into bubbles in Pickle OS that you could then look back on. And if it sounds like I just [bleep] had a fever dream and went off the deep end, I promise all of this stuff from the video. And that was in January and then Daniel Park and them haven't really tweeted since February.

• 11:52Speaker 01

I have a feeling a lot of the stuff that we talked about in that video probably aged very well. Because most of what people are saying when this video came out was like, oh, this is not real. This is, you're promising a product that clearly doesn't exist with technology that's not available yet and a price tag that seems impossible. And like all this stuff just doesn't seem realistic. And so now, now that I did put down a deposit and I'm getting this email, I'm like, being reminded of those takes, which is like, yeah, this is probably not going to happen anytime soon.

• 12:19Andrew Manganelli?

I think we went a step further and said, I thought the demos in it were fake.

• 12:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:24Andrew Manganelli?

There was like live demos that didn't match up with the resolutions they were promising.

• 12:30Speaker 01

And they tried to insist that they were real?

• 12:32Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, it said live demo with big red and was recording. It had this like little cat avatar that could follow you around or different avatars and all this kind of wild stuff that just, it's one of those things where we're seeing these huge companies try so hard to make. Dual display AR glasses and then some guy comes out of nowhere promising all these things. It's just, it always seemed like it was gonna be fake.

• 12:56Speaker 01

  Hashtag.

• 12:56David Imel?

In their defense, at least they did a full refund.

• 13:00Andrew Manganelli?

Well, here's what I'm confused about. For batch one, when we made our recording in January, they were taking pre-orders for batch two, which was promised for the end of this year. So I don't know what this means. Is there going to be a batch two still? Or are they just not gonna refund batch two people till December when they clearly won't ship this?

• 13:20David Imel?

So to be clear, are they saying that they will eventually ship this product? Or are they just kinda giving up on timelines?

• 13:26Speaker 01

No, they're, they're going, they're both. They're still trying to ship it, but they're like, this needs more time. So the people who paid a whole bunch to get theirs early, we're gonna refund that bit that you paid to be early.

• 13:35David Imel?

Okay, but they're not giving a new estimated delivery day?

• 13:38Speaker 01

  No.

• 13:39Andrew Manganelli?

I'm confused by refund in full because they just give you all your money back, right? I wonder if batch two got their money back. Would that then put batch two ahead of batch one? Since you got all of your money back and they didn't?

• 13:50David Imel?

They didn't really get your money back because what's the inflation rate been since you put your money in? That's called interest free loan, baby. Damn.

• 13:58Speaker 03

Do you still have a preorder or did they just give you your money back?

• 14:01Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, you still have a preorder?

• 14:02Speaker 01

No, you still, yeah. It doesn't cancel your order. It just means, hey, you don't get it yet.

• 14:06Speaker 03

So do you have to buy it again? You have to give them the money back again when you want the glasses?

• 14:10Speaker 01

  I think you didn't.

• 14:11Speaker 03

Or do you get free glasses?

• 14:11Speaker 01

You didn't pay for the, you just paid a preorder.

• 14:14Speaker 03

  Deposit?

• 14:14Speaker 01

Deposit. You didn't pay the whole price of the glasses.

• 14:17Speaker 03

How much are the glasses gonna cost? I don't even remember.

• 14:19Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, it's like 1300 bucks. Um, or I think they were selling them for like 800 or 900 for, if you got the early adopter, we're gonna ghost you after you pay us. Great.

• 14:32Andrew Manganelli?

But yeah, this, this is, um, it's so weird. None of them. The pickle account hasn't tweeted since the launch video and then Daniel Park, the CEO, tweeted like one more time afterwards. Uh, and I've seen nothing from them. But it all just kind of shows the foreshadowing that was Daniel Park's Twitter bio that said, I'm in a pickle. Thought he was being cute with that.

• 14:55Andrew Manganelli?

Kind of bit him in the ass a little bit.

• 14:56Speaker 01

  Turns out to be accurate.

• 14:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Very accurate. Wasn't lying.

• 14:59David Imel?

  AI startup.

• 15:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Yep.

• 15:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:01Andrew Manganelli?

  All right.

• 15:02Speaker 01

  Well.

• 15:02Andrew Manganelli?

We all, none of us think this is shipping by the end of the year, right? Or ever. I'll go ever.

• 15:07Speaker 01

Yeah. It's in the same vaporware category as a lot of other things that we've talked about.

• 15:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 15:12Speaker 01

Like the roadster and Robo Taxi. Well.

• 15:19Andrew Manganelli?

Friend AI, all the AI pins.

• 15:22David Imel?

  Friend is technically available.

• 15:23Speaker 01

  Absolutely. I have one. Yeah.

• 15:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 15:26David Imel?

  You've never.

• 15:26Andrew Manganelli?

Does it work? Do you, I'm still not sure if you actually have Friend AI or some other AI like pendant. And then every time we talk about this, we're like, I don't remember which.

• 15:35Speaker 01

I'll double check, but I think.

• 15:36David Imel?

Friend, I'm pretty sure is available. It's just like, nobody uses it.

• 15:39Speaker 03

  Yeah, why would they?

• 15:40David Imel?

  Exactly.

• 15:42Speaker 03

  Sorry.

• 15:42Speaker 01

Yeah, this one is the one I have. Yeah.

• 15:44Andrew Manganelli?

  We have another pendant also.

• 15:45Speaker 01

I think I have two of this, two boxes of this. I haven't taken it out the box yet.

• 15:49Andrew Manganelli?

We need to take those things out.

• 15:50Speaker 01

  Maybe I should.

• 15:51David Imel?

That was the AI hardware era.

• 15:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:53Speaker 03

That was like, it's already over.

• 15:55Speaker 01

  It's over.

• 15:56Speaker 03

  No one tell Johnny Ive.

• 16:00Speaker 01

I don't know if their product is ever coming out.

• 16:03Speaker 03

  I think.

• 16:04Speaker 01

A little fun with circular financing, you know what I mean?

• 16:06Speaker 03

I think their product is coming out.

• 16:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 16:09Speaker 03

I've heard enough echo through the cracks of New York City that at this point, they've thrown so much money and personnel at it that.

• 16:17Speaker 01

They've done the same to the entire AI industry.

• 16:20Speaker 03

  That is true.

• 16:21Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 16:21Speaker 03

  That is true.

• 16:22Speaker 01

Well, speaking of products that did come out. Yep. Uh, yeah, for real, for real. Uh, we had the Nothing Phone 4B drop this past week. I reviewed it, did a video about it. You can watch that. The summary is the B stands for budget. So Nothing. This is. I gotta, I gotta get this right. Okay. So Nothing makes a bunch of phones that are budget friendly in price.

• 16:50Speaker 03

And that's what the B stands for, right?

• 16:51Speaker 01

  No.

• 16:52Speaker 03

  Oh.

• 16:52Speaker 01

So they have a flagship phone in their own lineup. It's not a high end phone, but it is their flagship. That is the Nothing Phone 3, but it is a bit more budget than the like premium Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships or whatever. But they also have the A series that is like a more budget phone than their flagship.

• 17:12David Imel?

But not CMF, which is their budget brand.

• 17:15Andrew Manganelli?

  But it's also the 4A.

• 17:17Speaker 01

Yeah, so they have a 4A.

• 17:20Andrew Manganelli?

But the 3 is their flagship.

• 17:21Speaker 01

The 3 is their flagship. They haven't done a new flagship because of reasons. Don't worry about that. But they have a 4. I'm gonna just go to the site to make sure I'm getting this right.

• 17:28David Imel?

  Ramses.

• 17:30Speaker 01

So, but yeah, they have a 4A and they also have a 4A Pro, which is like a more premium, but still less than their flagship budget version of their phone. Anyway, don't worry about that. They also now have a B series phone and that is even less expensive. But they also have a sub-brand called CMF that's even less expensive typically than the Nothing phones. My theory was that this was going to be the next high-end pro CMF phone. But you know, we've talked about this RAM shortage and all the, the memory increase in prices and all this stuff. And I, I don't think they would have been able to get the build materials low enough to make another CMF phone for under $300.

• 18:14David Imel?

I got a tip from a source after our last episode about this that said that is exactly what was, what happened.

• 18:21Speaker 01

Well, I feel very validated then.

• 18:22David Imel?

It was gonna be the CMF Phone 3 Pro or whatever. And they knew that nobody would buy it at the price they had to sell it at. And then people would be very mad that it was branded CMF if it cost them much money.

• 18:35Speaker 01

That's incredible because that's exactly what I said in my review.

• 18:37David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 18:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:38David Imel?

And so it's the only reason that they made it the 4B. Otherwise, they probably would never have made a B series.

• 18:44Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 18:45Andrew Manganelli?

Well, it's not working out very well for them because subreddit is not happy about it. Two of the top three posts this week on the Nothing subreddit are just, it just says horrible pricing. And then one saying the Nothing phone with a chin isn't a Nothing phone.

• 19:01David Imel?

It may have to see my phone.

• 19:02Andrew Manganelli?

People are not happy about that. Actually, that's a really good point.

• 19:05Speaker 01

I have thoughts on that. That's so funny. First of all, I do, so it does have a slight chin. I do think generally people overreact to the chins and renders on phones they were never gonna buy anyway.

• 19:15Speaker 01

This does not have a folding.

• 19:16David Imel?

You can't even buy this in the US if you wanted to.

• 19:18Speaker 01

Correct. This is Europe, Asia, India, Australia, probably some of South America, but not coming to the US. So it's 330.

• 19:29Speaker 01

  Pounds, right?

• 19:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Pounds, yeah.

• 19:31Speaker 01

  And 300 great-

• 19:33David Imel?

  It's pretty heavy.

• 19:34Speaker 01

  Euros, it's 300 euros.

• 19:35Andrew Manganelli?

  No, Great British Pounds.

• 19:36Speaker 01

300 Great British Pounds or 330 euros.

• 19:38David Imel?

Are Great British Pounds different than American Pounds?

• 19:40Speaker 01

Yes. Either way, it is not the cheapest phone in the world, but I do think this is part of a larger trend of like, phones are just starting to cost more and more, and this is not instinctively like a really, really great deal, but it is a solid phone that is cheaper than their other solid phones. So it's an AMOLED still, it's not an LCD. It is 8 gigs of RAM still. It is 128 gigs of storage to start. It has a 6,000 milliampere battery in India, or 5,200 milliampere in the other markets.

• 20:12David Imel?

Why is it bigger in India?

• 20:14Speaker 01

They have two different specs, one for India, one for the rest of the world. The India one doesn't have NFC, because that saves a little money and India doesn't really use NFC that much. But they also fit a larger battery in it, so it's like, they just have a different SKU for India.

• 20:28David Imel?

  So it's like the 4BB?

• 20:30Speaker 01

Yeah, basically. B for basically. But it's also not a high-end chip. It's a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. It's like not a particularly high-end chip. It's not a, it's 120 Hz display, and that's nice. But it's like a pretty mediocre set of two cameras, 50 megapixel main camera, and then an 8 megapixel ultra-wide. It's not blowing anybody's minds with performance. It's just like a solid nothing phone that's cheaper than the other nothing phones. So that's why B stands for budget. They refuse to say it, but I'll say it. It's the budget one.

• 21:03Andrew Manganelli?

My favorite part in the video you made is when you show the graph of all the performance. Everyone's just like, wow, Tencent really taking shots here?

• 21:14Speaker 01

Yeah, the Tencent G2 is right around the same CPU performance level as this super low-end Snapdragon chip, which is also right around the same level as the OnePlus 7 Pro.

• 21:30David Imel?

  Oh.

• 21:30Speaker 01

  It's not a new phone.

• 21:31David Imel?

  That's a pretty old phone.

• 21:32Speaker 01

  It's a pretty old phone.

• 21:33David Imel?

I was still reviewing phones for a living when that came out.

• 21:35Speaker 01

I'm using a OnePlus 15 right now. So, yeah.

• 21:39David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:39Speaker 01

It's definitely lacking, and I think the people on the subreddit are probably not gonna be happy about the performance. They're probably not gonna be happy about price to performance ratio, but yeah, it's aight. It's a nothing phone. I think you could be a lot harsher on it if you were looking, if you're comparing it to other phones in its price class, things like the Moto G, Stylist, things like, you could probably say some like the A series from Samsung.

• 22:04David Imel?

They have way better software. I mean, I'd buy a nothing phone over a Moto G.

• 22:08Speaker 01

  I agree.

• 22:08David Imel?

  Samsung A series any day.

• 22:10Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 22:10David Imel?

  So.

• 22:11Speaker 01

But different, you know, upsides for different phones in this price category.

• 22:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:15Speaker 01

And they're also all going to be getting more expensive, unfortunately.

• 22:17David Imel?

Yeah. It's all about expectations, and I think the fact that nothing sort of cemented, because they just took the OnePlus approach from way back in the day where it was like the cheapest possible price for the best possible specs, and then build the community around that.

• 22:31Speaker 01

  It's harder than ever.

• 22:32David Imel?

Yeah, it's harder than ever to actually have that in the world with RAM.

• 22:37Speaker 01

What do you think of the design?

• 22:39David Imel?

  I think it's kinda ugly.

• 22:40Speaker 01

  Really?

• 22:41David Imel?

Yeah, and I'm not in love with it. I don't love the like, the sort of like matte blue.

• 22:49Speaker 01

I think the color itself is nice, but the finish and the feel in the hand is actually kinda cheap, unfortunately. It is a plastic phone.

• 22:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:56Speaker 01

But I think it's cool that it comes in blue. The white version, I think, looks nice. All of these phones have black buttons, so it's a nice contrast with the black button.

• 23:04Andrew Manganelli?

I think it looks fine. It just looks like they got a little lazy in the camera bump with like, nothing has all of these fun things they do, which can make you be like, cool, this is a really sick-looking phone, and this was like, we put the little glyph bar and a couple fake screws and...

• 23:20David Imel?

This is very similar to the whole like Ferrari Luce thing, where if it wasn't a Ferrari, people would actually think it's kinda cool. If this was a CMF phone, I'd be like, that's like one of their best-looking CMF phones.

• 23:34Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 23:34David Imel?

But as a nothing phone, I'm just kinda like, eh, it looks pretty...

• 23:38Andrew Manganelli?

Something about the orange of CMF and knowing it's plastic, you're expecting the plastic, where the nothing is like, you're expecting a little more premium build quality out of it.

• 23:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 23:48David Imel?

It even has the little like weird circle thing.

• 23:50Andrew Manganelli?

  It does have the circle.

• 23:51David Imel?

  Which the CMF.

• 23:52Andrew Manganelli?

But uh, didn't one of the other Nothing Phones have it?

• 23:54David Imel?

  Yeah, it's possible.

• 23:55Andrew Manganelli?

  What circle thing?

• 23:56David Imel?

  In the bottom.

• 23:57Speaker 01

Oh, in the corner. Yeah, I noticed that. I held it up next to the CMF phone. That shot didn't make the video, but it's kinda like, why is that there? It seems like it's.

• 24:04David Imel?

Maybe because it was supposed to be a CMF phone and they just rebranded it.

• 24:07Speaker 01

It feels like one of those things where like a, like a mammal evolves and doesn't have a tail anymore, but they still have a tailbone. It feels like a vestigial, like, little bump on the corner of the phone. Like, oh yeah, this is not a CMF phone anymore.

• 24:18David Imel?

I think that the CMF phone sort of like moniker branding is having that little nub in the bottom corner.

• 24:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:25David Imel?

  And I would bet you.

• 24:25Andrew Manganelli?

So this is on the other corner, which is weird.

• 24:27David Imel?

  Ah, well, I mean.

• 24:29Speaker 01

  Still.

• 24:29David Imel?

But it hasn't been in any Nothing Phones before, right?

• 24:31Andrew Manganelli?

No, I don't see it in.

• 24:32David Imel?

So I'm betting you that this was supposed to be a CMF phone and at the last minute, they just made a marketing decision.

• 24:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 24:38David Imel?

  Yeah, that's really interesting.

• 24:40Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, no, never mind. This one does. What, what is this?

• 24:42David Imel?

  The 3 Pro.

• 24:43Andrew Manganelli?

No, this, is this 3 Pro?

• 24:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:46Speaker 01

  The Nothing Phone has it?

• 24:47David Imel?

  Yeah, that's the 3 Pro.

• 24:48Speaker 01

Okay, so they have had it in other Nothing Phones.

• 24:50David Imel?

  Okay.

• 24:51Speaker 01

  But.

• 24:51David Imel?

  Alright.

• 24:52Speaker 01

It does still kinda give CMF vibes.

• 24:54David Imel?

  Oh, is it 4 Pro?

• 24:57Speaker 01

  4A doesn't have it.

• 24:59Andrew Manganelli?

  What's that?

• 24:59David Imel?

  Oh, it's 4A Pro.

• 25:00Speaker 01

  4A Pro does have it.

• 25:01Andrew Manganelli?

  4A Pro, yes.

• 25:01David Imel?

  That's an A?

• 25:03Speaker 01

  Yeah, but it's A Pro.

• 25:05David Imel?

  Right.

• 25:06Speaker 01

  So it's, it's a little better than the A.

• 25:08David Imel?

  Just like Charlie XCX.

• 25:09Speaker 01

Yeah. There's also a 3A Lite, by the way. Did you know that?

• 25:12Andrew Manganelli?

  No. Are you kidding?

• 25:14Speaker 01

We, we, you know, we talked about this phone.

• 25:16Speaker 03

Explain your Charlie XCX. What do you, what do you mean?

• 25:18David Imel?

  She's like their official ambassador.

• 25:20Speaker 01

Yeah, in case you missed the news, this is huge news.

• 25:23Speaker 03

No, I think I remember this now that you.

• 25:24Speaker 01

Charlie XCX is a brand ambassador for Nothing.

• 25:26David Imel?

I'm so sad that they got rid of the sent from Twitter for my phone thing. It was so fun.

• 25:31Speaker 01

  That was a good time.

• 25:32David Imel?

Cause there's no way, there's no way. But, you know, it is, she does live in the UK, so look, people use Android phones in, everywhere else in the United, in the world, besides the.

• 25:42Andrew Manganelli?

Everywhere else in the United States.

• 25:44David Imel?

In the world, besides the United States.

• 25:46Speaker 01

So just to be clear, their whole lineup is a Nothing Phone 3.

• 25:50David Imel?

  Okay.

• 25:50Speaker 01

Then the Nothing Phone 4A Pro, then the Nothing Phone 4A, then the Nothing Phone.

• 26:00Speaker 01

3A, no, 4B, then 3A Lite. Then, hmm, I don't think you, they don't still sell the 3A Pro. They don't still sell the 3As, so they just have 4As now. So I think 4A Lite is gone. There is no, 3A Lite is gone and there's no 4A Lite. So it's just 4B now.

• 26:22David Imel?

They just need to do what Razer did way back in the day.

• 26:26Andrew Manganelli?

I think that hurt. That actively hurt me.

• 26:29David Imel?

They just need to do what Razer did back in the day where they just started branding everything the year it was released.

• 26:34Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:35Speaker 01

  That's what Samsung's doing.

• 26:36David Imel?

Although, to be honest, they release so many phones per year that that.

• 26:39Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, that's the hard part.

• 26:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:41Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:42Andrew Manganelli?

Well, they did release something else.

• 26:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 26:45Andrew Manganelli?

The Nothing Ear 3A, which maybe is also a little confusing because the previous version of this was the Nothing Ear A. And now we're on Nothing 3.

• 26:54David Imel?

  Do they have a 2A?

• 26:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Ear 3A, no.

• 26:56David Imel?

  They didn't?

• 26:57Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 26:57David Imel?

  Then why is it 3A?

• 26:59Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't know.

• 27:00David Imel?

  Tim.

• 27:00Andrew Manganelli?

I would say to match the current volume, but that's 4.

• 27:02David Imel?

  But that's 4. Oh.

• 27:06David Imel?

Somewhat. Akis needs to answer for his sins. I need to know.

• 27:09Andrew Manganelli?

Anyways, $99, just like the original Ear A. Case looks just like the old one, which I use the Ear A at home and the Ear 3. Oh, maybe it's matching the ear number. So ears at ear 3.

• 27:24David Imel?

  Okay.

• 27:24Andrew Manganelli?

  So that's what it's matching.

• 27:25David Imel?

  Sure.

• 27:26Andrew Manganelli?

I use the Ear 3s at the gym here at work. I like the case of the Ear A better. And I really don't feel like there's a huge difference between the two buds. So I would go with the cheap version any day of the week.

• 27:37David Imel?

Yeah, they're good for what their price, they're good.

• 27:40Andrew Manganelli?

No, they're, they're the earbuds I keep finding myself coming back to. I know I give nothing a lot of hell on this podcast, but for whatever reason, those earbuds I've been using for so long.

• 27:51David Imel?

I think those are some of their best products, for sure.

• 27:53Andrew Manganelli?

And now that there's a $99 version, I think that's almost my like go-to recommendation if you don't have an iPhone and want.

• 27:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 27:59Andrew Manganelli?

  AirPods.

• 28:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 28:01Andrew Manganelli?

There's three, or sorry, four colors, white, black, yellow, which we've seen before, and now pink. My biggest issue is all of the color is either on the case or on like the inside part of the earbud that goes in your ear. So you don't see it. The other colors are just the black stems. So I think that could be pretty cool if they incorporated a little more into the stems. They're also adding something called Audio Snapshot, which I'm going to explain and you can tell me what, why. It is the ability to, the case has 32 megabytes of storage in it and you can record I'm what you're listening to, it says, I'm assuming also what you're saying into the microphone,

• 28:41Andrew Manganelli?

but also what you're listening to. And I can't figure out why you would want to do that. I'm sure somebody can think of something, a whole phone call, maybe locally.

• 28:52Speaker 01

  That would be cool.

• 28:53Andrew Manganelli?

I was like, trying to think of it, if it's like, do you know?

• 28:55Speaker 04

  Also illegal in some states.

• 28:57Andrew Manganelli?

That's so they, they specifically say this is for personal, non-commercial use only, which makes me think is their weird lawyer way of being like, please don't just record a bunch of music off of Spotify and like steal it for local backup, but.

• 29:11Speaker 01

Yeah. How does that work? Yeah. So, wait a minute. So you can record, so anything, anything that's going to the wireless headphones, like any feed that's playing, you can record.

• 29:20Andrew Manganelli?

My entire knowledge of this feature is one sentence that says you can record what you hear.

• 29:27Speaker 01

They don't give like a what this is useful for.

• 29:30Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm not entirely sure.

• 29:31Speaker 01

  On their website.

• 29:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Or I missed it.

• 29:33Speaker 01

Like if you try to screenshot certain apps that have like a Netflix video, it will not let you because you're not allowed to. If you are listening to copyrighted content and you record it with the feature in the app, does it still work?

• 29:48Andrew Manganelli?

  I have no idea.

• 29:49Speaker 01

I guess we'll have to find out.

• 29:50Andrew Manganelli?

Apparently it records and can store onto the case storage and then be accessed through the Nothing X app where you can then edit or share it.

• 29:58Speaker 04

  So you can definitely.

• 29:59Andrew Manganelli?

Transcribe it, which actually sounds cool.

• 30:01Speaker 04

Yeah, I was gonna say, that's one of the features. You can definitely record conversations because one of the things that they're showing on the website is call recording and you can save up to two hours of conversations and online meetings. And then in the app.

• 30:12Andrew Manganelli?

That probably makes the most sense, especially if it's going to Nothing X app. They like all the AI stuff. So being able to save.

• 30:18Speaker 04

I'm fairly certain that's still illegal in some states, though. It's like some states are two-party, like you need to tell the person I'm about to record, is that okay?

• 30:26Speaker 01

Yeah, but the iPhone still has a record this call feature.

• 30:29Speaker 04

  That's true.

• 30:29Speaker 01

You know, it's not like, it's up to you to follow the law. It's not up to like.

• 30:35Speaker 04

  There are rules.

• 30:36Speaker 01

  There are laws.

• 30:38David Imel?

Yeah, I mean, on the website, it does say one of the features that says capture calls plus media. I don't really see anything on the page that talks about what it's useful for. Oh, here we go.

• 30:48Andrew Manganelli?

  A call and transcribing sounds.

• 30:49David Imel?

New audio snapshot and call recording feature lets you capture all the things you hear while better active noise cancel. Okay, you're right. They just mentioned it exists. They don't really mention what you should use it for. I think since Carl pay is so long on AI stuff, I think his probably intention for it is all of these like AI pendants and stuff are like, oh, quickly record a thought that you have like these, um, these rings. A big feature of the rings is just to be able to like tell an idea to your ring so that it can get saved somewhere. And then it's like your second brain. I would guess that is what they want to market these for too.

• 31:26Andrew Manganelli?

With one step further, because you don't like to just do thoughts, you don't need to record the audio that's playing. Yeah. So I think like conversations, meetings, we're seeing all these different things of like how to record full meetings.

• 31:39Speaker 04

So to that point, have you tried it yet for meetings?

• 31:42Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 31:43Speaker 04

Because I tried it the other day when we had our special podcast meeting. No, it was, um, was it notion?

• 31:49Andrew Manganelli?

Notion pops up every time I have like a huddle or anything.

• 31:52Speaker 04

I know it does. It was Google Meet and when we had our special podcast meeting for upcoming episodes, stay tuned. I asked it to record and summarize the meeting just to like try it out, see what it did. It gave me nothing useful by the end of it, like it was completely useless. What was the point of letting you listen to this?

• 32:09Andrew Manganelli?

  That was probably.

• 32:10Speaker 04

  It was Google.

• 32:11Speaker 03

  It's because Google makes money.

• 32:12David Imel?

I, I just did a Google one and it was really helpful.

• 32:15Speaker 04

  Was it short?

• 32:16David Imel?

No, it was an hour long.

• 32:17Speaker 04

This was an hour long and it was complete. It was like, try to figure out this. And I was like, yeah, but we resolved that issue. Like we solved it and it like the summary just completely ignored the, the solution.

• 32:27Andrew Manganelli?

To be fair, the majority of that meeting was like six people at a table and like one or two people on the video call. So it would have had to just listen to mostly people talking at a table back and forth.

• 32:39Speaker 04

That is, that is what a meeting is.

• 32:41Speaker 03

No, no, but most. Multi-modal super intelligence.

• 32:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Online meetings are like.

• 32:44Speaker 03

  No excuses.

• 32:45Andrew Manganelli?

I think most remote meetings are all the individual people have their own microphone and.

• 32:51David Imel?

Oh, I disagree. That's maybe for a fully remote company, but most companies are like sitting in a room with one or two people remote.

• 32:57Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I think, I think the thing inside Google Meet is probably, I'm not trying to, I don't want to be the guy defending Google. I like

• 33:05David Imel?

I don't know how, going back to this, I don't know how much of a useful feature this actually is.

• 33:10Andrew Manganelli?

It's, but it's $99 for a cool pair of headphones. That's all I care about. I think that's why they're cool. Who cares about audio snapshot? The stupid microphone thing in ear three, no one uses, so.

• 33:20David Imel?

  The microphone thing?

• 33:21Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, you don't even remember it.

• 33:23David Imel?

  Microphone in the case.

• 33:24Andrew Manganelli?

It's like in the case, so you can talk to your case like a road go wire.

• 33:30David Imel?

Forgot about that. Didn't that not work because Android didn't support it or something when it launched?

• 33:34Andrew Manganelli?

  I have no idea.

• 33:34David Imel?

I think it, it did work and you could use it as like a mic for your call, if you're in a super loud bar.

• 33:40Andrew Manganelli?

Sounded bad and then everyone told you weren't holding it close enough to your mouth, even though you were like.

• 33:45David Imel?

  Right up to your mouth.

• 33:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Put it inside your mouth.

• 33:46David Imel?

I will say like, they, they have a bunch of press photos of people wearing these buds and you can see the color.

• 33:52Andrew Manganelli?

A little bit, but you could see it more if they just actually made the stems different, but it's probably too many. That's why I think the white ones look the best because the stems are white.

• 34:00David Imel?

There might be an element though of like, you see a flash of pink or a flash of yellow in someone's ear and it kind of makes you do a double take. Maybe that's what their marketing strategy is, is try to get people to look twice.

• 34:11Andrew Manganelli?

I think their marketing strategy is the stem, they don't need to make four different stems. They can only make, they make two stems instead.

• 34:17David Imel?

  Yeah, that's their production strategy.

• 34:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Production, yeah.

• 34:20David Imel?

Yeah. Okay. Well, I don't know. They're still good. I mean, I would like to try these ones. They're generally good for a hundred dollars and.

• 34:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 34:28David Imel?

  You know?

• 34:29Andrew Manganelli?

  I like them.

• 34:30David Imel?

All right. Well, since we have nothing more before our ad break.

• 34:36David Imel?

  Except for trivia.

• 34:38Speaker 01

  Then we should do that.

• 34:39David Imel?

I guess we should do that.

• 34:42Speaker 03

I really wanted to make this question about

• 34:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Me?

• 34:46Speaker 03

Internal code names and pickle stuff. But I discovered today, if you search the words Google code name and then any word in parentheses to like force, give you results, AI overview will just invent a fake Google product and say that was its code name. Any word. I pushed it really, really far. But today's question is about pickles because Daniel Park's bio, as we mentioned, is in a pickle or some in a hashtag pickle, hashtag in a pickle, whatever. I got his name right, right?

• 35:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, Daniel Park.

• 35:23Speaker 03

But I would like to ask you guys today, what famous English language author actually coined the idiom, the colloquialism in a pickle?

• 35:34Andrew Manganelli?

I thought this was gonna actually be about pickles.

• 35:35Speaker 03

He was not the first one to use it, but it is regarded as the place where it became a popular phrase that everyone uses.

• 35:44David Imel?

  You say English?

• 35:45Speaker 03

English. It's English language. The first usage I could find was about 40 years before this guy, but it seemed like no one cared about that. And then this guy used it. And all of a sudden, everyone's been saying in a pickle ever since. Yeah, exactly, dude.

• 36:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 36:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay. I have no idea.

• 36:03David Imel?

  Damn, yeah, no clue. I-

• 36:05Speaker 03

  I'll give you a hint.

• 36:08Speaker 03

  English language author.

• 36:10David Imel?

  Got it.

• 36:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Just English language author?

• 36:11David Imel?

Now I got it. Now I got it.

• 36:15Andrew Manganelli?

I think that somehow made it first. I thought you said English author. Now, English language could be anyone.

• 36:21Speaker 03

He is also an English author, so.

• 36:24Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, so now I'm back to where I started, which is I have no idea.

• 36:27David Imel?

I have two. I think I have, there's two that I'm like thinking about.

• 36:30Speaker 01

At the end of the video, we'll just like pull out a whiteboard and just write down an author.

• 36:34Andrew Manganelli?

I'm worried about that part. I'm worried about guessing and looking like an idiot. John Green.

• 36:40Speaker 01

Name an author. All right. Well, answers will be at the end like usual. We'll be right back.

• 36:47Speaker 01

My brain when a non-tech question comes up.

• 40:12Speaker 01

Not too much, because we're going to talk more about them when they actually happen. But the tech companies are Google and Samsung, and they're doing this thing where they're teasing basically exactly what's coming out by showing us what's coming out, but not unveiling everything technically.

• 40:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:28Speaker 01

We can start with Samsung here. Samsung Unpacked, they have had this aspect ratio teaser thing going on on social for a while. Now they have the official Unpacked invitation, which says, it says, "A new shape unfolds." I don't know how you could be any more clear about this. They're going to have a new foldable with a different shape. They even have a sort of a tear-off animation, so you can see exactly what shape the foldable is going to be.

• 40:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:53Speaker 01

It doesn't get any more clear than that. Now we just have to wait to see the actual device and to see if any of our theories are going to come true about it being slightly lower-priced or slightly more mid-range than their Ultra foldable, which is a little taller.

• 41:06David Imel?

I think it will be, because the rumor is that the Galaxy 8 Fold is going to be called 8 Fold Ultra.

• 41:12Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:12David Imel?

And I think this will probably just be... Eightfold wide or something.

• 41:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:16David Imel?

Uh, but without the Ultra moniker, and it's probably only gonna have a couple of cameras. Uh, it's gonna be the mid-range one, I think, which is kinda sad, cuz I like the Passport style better.

• 41:25Speaker 01

I also think it's kinda sad, but I also think it makes sense, only because in Samsung land and a lot of other companies, more cameras equals more pro.

• 41:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 41:35Speaker 01

Like, pretty strictly. The more cameras it has, the more pro it is. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a bunch of cameras. If it's a lower-end phone and it's cheaper, it has less cameras, all the way down to their very lowest-end phones, which typically have two cameras.

• 41:47David Imel?

Yeah. Except for the iPhone Air.

• 41:49Speaker 01

Well, so in Apple land, it's actually kind of still true in Apple land, but the iPhone Air messes it all up. Cuz it's more expensive than the base phone, but it has less cameras.

• 41:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 41:57Speaker 01

  So.

• 41:58Andrew Manganelli?

Nine to five, Google has price rumors. They're in.

• 42:01David Imel?

  Okay.

• 42:02Andrew Manganelli?

Are these euros? These are euros, right?

• 42:04David Imel?

  Pounds, euros.

• 42:05Speaker 01

  So.

• 42:05David Imel?

  Work with that.

• 42:06Speaker 01

  Scandinavia.

• 42:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Z Fold 8, 256, 1999. Z Fold 8 Ultra, 256, 2199.

• 42:14David Imel?

  Okay.

• 42:15Speaker 01

  That's not a huge difference.

• 42:16Andrew Manganelli?

It's not a huge difference, although I don't know the conversion rate very well.

• 42:19Speaker 01

It's pretty close. Twenty-two hundred euros is twenty-five hundred dollars. That is expensive.

• 42:25David Imel?

  That's a lot.

• 42:25Speaker 01

Yeah, not that close. But the difference between.

• 42:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Starting. That's 256.

• 42:31David Imel?

  Damn.

• 42:31Speaker 01

  And 2,000 euros.

• 42:32David Imel?

  Hundred dollars starting.

• 42:34Andrew Manganelli?

So, it's not a big gap, though, between them. So do we think it's just, like, slightly less screen real estate and one less camera?

• 42:43David Imel?

So we think that's just gonna be called the Z Fold 8.

• 42:46Andrew Manganelli?

I think that's what people seem to be thinking.

• 42:47David Imel?

  That's dumb of them.

• 42:49Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't.

• 42:50David Imel?

We call it, they should call the Z Fold 8 wide.

• 42:52Speaker 01

Yeah, maybe at the expense of making this podcast slightly more useless when the event does happen. What do we think the difference will be between the wide and the full-size 8?

• 43:02Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, I wish it was only the.

• 43:04Speaker 01

If it's the same chip, same RAM, same storage, same display technologies, literally same refresh rate, just different aspect ratio and one less camera and less battery.

• 43:13David Imel?

It's probably gonna be a chip from last year.

• 43:15Speaker 01

  In the wide?

• 43:16David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:17Speaker 01

That would be another way of lowering the price.

• 43:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:20Speaker 01

But it doesn't seem like the price is very low.

• 43:22Andrew Manganelli?

It doesn't seem, I, I'm starting to think it might just be the different aspect ratio in camera. And if that's probably slightly less total screen real estate, right?

• 43:32David Imel?

  True, yeah.

• 43:32Andrew Manganelli?

So that's probably the difference in a little less display, one less camera.

• 43:36David Imel?

Just the camera, slightly smaller, gets rid of the ultramoniker.

• 43:41Speaker 01

And you also have a smaller battery if it's a smaller overall phone?

• 43:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:44Andrew Manganelli?

Well, and I think the ultramoniker here is less of that it's ultra and more that the other one isn't. It's like a differentiator.

• 43:51Speaker 01

Maybe it also has no S Pen support. Maybe it also drops like some of the really, really fringe extra like software features or something that the ultra has.

• 44:00David Imel?

  Plastic.

• 44:01Speaker 01

Maybe, maybe privacy display on the ultra or something.

• 44:04David Imel?

  Yeah, true.

• 44:05Speaker 01

  Stuff like that.

• 44:06Andrew Manganelli?

It would be crazy to not put, nevermind. Who knows what they're doing?

• 44:11David Imel?

  Who knows what's crazy anymore?

• 44:12Andrew Manganelli?

I was more worried about it being like a $1,500 foldable. That's like lower on every single aspect of everything.

• 44:20Speaker 01

  Like a lower end chip.

• 44:21Andrew Manganelli?

Lower end chip, less RAM, worse camera sensors.

• 44:24Speaker 01

  Gotcha.

• 44:25Andrew Manganelli?

Possibly like plastic back. Like that's what they did with Note, Note 10 and Note 10 Ultra or whatever it was.

• 44:31Speaker 01

Well, we'll see. July 22nd, we will find out that will be Galaxy Unpacked. A new shape will unfold. The other one is Google and that is happening in August, August 12th. And they are also very, very clear in the photo of it. We literally get to see the Pixel. They've done a good job at not leaking everything into oblivion with the Pixel this year. But they are showing us what looks like the top half of the Pixel 11, which has that round, you know, pilled shaped visor like we've seen for the past couple of years. Not looking forward to a whole ton of change with Pixel design. But I will naively cross my fingers for a big improvement with Tensor.

• 45:11David Imel?

Well, and then we are supposed to get the Pixel Glow.

• 45:14Speaker 01

Is this going to be a glowing visor?

• 45:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Don't believe it.

• 45:16Speaker 01

  That's what the rumor is.

• 45:18Andrew Manganelli?

  No shot.

• 45:18Speaker 01

Kind of feel like they would have teased that more heavily if that's actually.

• 45:21David Imel?

  I agree.

• 45:24Andrew Manganelli?

But all the rumor sites say that it's probably going to be a glowing visor.

• 45:28David Imel?

I almost can't imagine Google teasing a new Pixel that has a glowing visor and not

• 45:34Andrew Manganelli?

saying the glowing thing is happening.

• 45:36David Imel?

Unless they're trying to save it for the event, make it a big deal.

• 45:38Andrew Manganelli?

Like, it's glow time. Like, they would be very on the nose about it. Yeah, that's how Apple did a couple of years ago.

• 45:43David Imel?

  A series.

• 45:44Andrew Manganelli?

  But-

• 45:44David Imel?

Even though it wasn't glow time.

• 45:46Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, exactly. We'll see. Um, any other leaks that we see with Pixel?

• 45:50David Imel?

Yeah. They're apparently gonna kill the 128 base color, which is specifically for Andrew.

• 45:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Kill it.

• 45:55David Imel?

Uh, base m- model, not color.

• 45:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Good start.

• 45:58David Imel?

Uh, however, it'll be a hundred dollars more expensive.

• 46:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Bad finish.

• 46:03Andrew Manganelli?

So that is a price hike. I'm tired of people who say, "This isn't a price hike, it was the same price."

• 46:07David Imel?

I'm tired of pretending it's not!

• 46:09Andrew Manganelli?

  It's, yeah, it's-

• 46:10David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 46:11Andrew Manganelli?

A higher point of entry, AKA price hike.

• 46:14David Imel?

I mean, these companies kinda have to do this. Storage is so ridiculously expensive right now.

• 46:19Andrew Manganelli?

They could've looked really sick last year. Now they just look like fools again.

• 46:22David Imel?

Yeah, they kinda, they kinda jumped the gun there.

• 46:24Andrew Manganelli?

Well, they might not be leaking the Pixel that much, but someone did find a Watch 5 in the middle of the ocean.

• 46:31David Imel?

  That did happen, allegedly.

• 46:33Andrew Manganelli?

We got some more Pixel 5 watch rumors. Um, this does seem like it's getting a price hike. About fifty dollars for each variant, which makes the new starting price 399, but-

• 46:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 46:42Andrew Manganelli?

What I hadn't noticed is the Pixel watches hasn't, it's always been 350. So, five generations in for a price hike? I'll give them some credit there. It's still probably a little expensive for a Pixel watch.

• 46:53David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 46:54Andrew Manganelli?

There'll be two sizes, 41, 44 millimeters. Both of those have a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE model. But there's one new color, so four total colors. Silver, a rat's, uh, I've studied this word and now I'm getting it wrong. We watched a sick video of some guy-

• 47:10David Imel?

  Anthracite.

• 47:11Andrew Manganelli?

Anthracite. Warm gold and pyrite, which- is fool's gold, which means-

• 47:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:17Andrew Manganelli?

They're the same color. I don't think anyone's expecting a solid gold Pixel watch.

• 47:21David Imel?

Yeah, when they say warm gold, is that supposed to be like some sort of a rose gold, like, warm hue?

• 47:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Version of gold that's different?

• 47:29David Imel?

The rose gold for iPhone was basically pink.

• 47:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Right.

• 47:32David Imel?

But the renders of this do not look pink.

• 47:34Andrew Manganelli?

But naming the other one pyrite, which just looks like gold, it kind of implies that warm gold doesn't look like gold anymore.

• 47:40David Imel?

I think that's why they had to name it something different.

• 47:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Strange. I'll show you the-

• 47:44David Imel?

  The renders.

• 47:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh-

• 47:46David Imel?

What if warm gold is shiny, like in the picture, and then pyrite is like matte?

• 47:52Speaker 01

That would be cool. I would actually be into that.

• 47:54Andrew Manganelli?

That would be kind of cool.

• 47:54David Imel?

Google just released the edition edition again. I mean,

• 47:57Andrew Manganelli?

  The what?

• 47:58David Imel?

  The edition edition.

• 47:59Speaker 01

  The edition.

• 48:01David Imel?

  The Apple Watch edition edition.

• 48:03Andrew Manganelli?

So like, the swatches kind of look like, Warm Gold looks like gold and Pyrite looks like if you had a

• 48:11Speaker 01

  Green.

• 48:11Andrew Manganelli?

Gold colored crayon. Know what I mean? Like, it's really hard to make gold a crayon. Which I guess would be the insane way of saying what Adam said, which is just, it's matte.

• 48:23Speaker 01

You remember those sixty-four packs of Crayola crayons?

• 48:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:26Speaker 01

Where they had to name every single one.

• 48:28Speaker 03

I'm pretty sure one of them was Pyrite. Unless it was maybe the one twenty-eight ones, but I

• 48:32Speaker 01

  Maybe.

• 48:32Speaker 03

  I could have sworn.

• 48:33Andrew Manganelli?

There's only the two fifty-six base crayons now, so I don't know.

• 48:37Speaker 01

Y'all had a hundred twenty-eight gigs of crayons back in the day? That's crazy, bro.

• 48:41Speaker 03

The nineties were a wild time.

• 48:42Speaker 01

I had that sixty-four gig, yeah. No, I

• 48:44Andrew Manganelli?

Does not look like there's a Pyrite crayon.

• 48:46Speaker 04

  There's not a Pyrite crayon?

• 48:47David Imel?

  There's not a Pyrite crayon?

• 48:49Speaker 01

I just always remember Pyrite being the one that looks like gold, but that is dramatically less valuable than actual gold, which is why they call it fool's gold. Which also doesn't say a lot about the Pixel Watch.

• 49:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 49:00Speaker 01

I call it Pyrite, but we'll see.

• 49:02David Imel?

I grew up in gold country.

• 49:04Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 49:04David Imel?

It's like where the gold rush happened. And so we have a mine that is still operating called the Empire Mine.

• 49:10Andrew Manganelli?

  A mime?

• 49:13David Imel?

That is, whoa, you're kind of mesmerizing right now.

• 49:16Speaker 01

  Audio listeners will have

• 49:18David Imel?

  Adam was just miming.

• 49:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Podcast worst nightmare, the mime.

• 49:21Speaker 01

  Well, mine is still operating.

• 49:23Speaker 03

Mime podcast would be so funny. Like, I'm in a box, I'm in a box, I'm still in the box, I can't get out of the box, the box is getting smaller.

• 49:30Speaker 01

But you can't talk as a mime, that's the whole point.

• 49:32Speaker 03

Well, no, if you're a mime podcaster, then it gets reversed, then you can't do anything with your body, but you're just a narrator.

• 49:37Speaker 01

  There is no video version.

• 49:38Andrew Manganelli?

  That's charades.

• 49:39Speaker 01

  Is that every podcast?

• 49:40Speaker 03

No, charades is regular mime, right?

• 49:42Speaker 01

People already don't know if you're doing anything with your body.

• 49:44Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, no, yeah, you're right. You're right.

• 49:46Speaker 03

That's why I'm doing the mime podcast. I'm, anyway, please.

• 49:49Speaker 01

  But that's the opposite of

• 49:49Speaker 03

Tell us about your silly little mind.

• 49:51David Imel?

All right. It's called the Empire Mine. Anyway, it's still operating. You can go visit it. It's cool. And when we were kids, we used to go there at school and they would show us the difference between real gold and Pyrite. And you could like buy some Pyrite and take it home and fool your parents into thinking that you actually found real gold. And they're like, oh my God, we can escape the permanent underclass. And then you go,

• 50:13Andrew Manganelli?

  April Fools.

• 50:14Speaker 01

  You fool.

• 50:14David Imel?

  You fool.

• 50:16Speaker 04

  So.

• 50:17Andrew Manganelli?

In this swatch leak that I didn't notice, this is new new way mobile. I'm definitely pronouncing that wrong, but it does actually say polished for warm gold and satin for pyrite.

• 50:28David Imel?

  Satin.

• 50:28Speaker 04

  Nice.

• 50:28David Imel?

  So Matt.

• 50:29Speaker 04

  Okay.

• 50:30David Imel?

Okay, Matt Gold. I like that. That's very cool. Well, um, how do we transition this?

• 50:36Speaker 04

Am I the only one that remembers a pyrite crayon? I cannot be the only one.

• 50:40Andrew Manganelli?

I don't have a Mandela effect. No, and people like their crayons. I remember there was a TikTok account once that was just this girl collecting the like sunflower colored crayon.

• 50:48Speaker 04

  That's awesome.

• 50:49Andrew Manganelli?

  It was way too entertaining.

• 50:51David Imel?

  I have a good idea.

• 50:51Speaker 04

There's a hundred twenty pack. Oh my.

• 50:53David Imel?

Well, there might not be an official pyrite crayon, but you could generate a pyrite crayon with Meta's new Muse image model.

• 51:01Speaker 04

Jesus. Kids these days will never know.

• 51:04David Imel?

  The reason.

• 51:05Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, that AI is the infinite segue glitch.

• 51:07David Imel?

  That's true.

• 51:08Speaker 04

  Yeah, that's true.

• 51:10David Imel?

But just generate. A segue. Uh, okay. So Meta has finally put out its first AI model from its super intelligence lab.

• 51:17Andrew Manganelli?

You say finally, like we've been waiting for this.

• 51:19Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 51:20David Imel?

Yeah. Less that we've been waiting for it and more that they've spent almost as much as they spent on the metaverse on it.

• 51:25Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 51:26David Imel?

So there's that. Uh, they launched it. It's called Muse AI. It is a image generation model. It's very deeply embedded in Instagram. Adam Aseri is very excited that there's a bunch of new Instagram filters you can use with it, things like that. Um, I, he posted it and all the comments were like, literally nobody cared. Which is funny. The not funny part is that, uh, because it's very deeply integrated into Instagram. You can now, if you're on Meta AI, you can just tag an Instagram post or an Instagram profile. And it will, you can remix whoever's photos you want. You can add, you can add people's likeness into your generated pictures.

• 52:09David Imel?

You can add landscapes that other people took photos of into their pictures.

• 52:16David Imel?

And it's opt out, which is it's opt out.

• 52:21Andrew Manganelli?

  You're surprised?

• 52:23David Imel?

So, yeah, I recommend that everybody goes into Instagram settings and opts out of this. Do it.

• 52:30Speaker 03

  Um, re-download the Instagram app?

• 52:32Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I actually think you might have to, because I don't have the app. So I just use the browser and in the browser settings on where you take this out, that option's not there.

• 52:42David Imel?

Yeah. You know what I've been thinking about a lot recently? And this is very obvious and not a unique take, but we allowed like five companies, like private, well, not private, but corporations to be so deeply embedded in the way that we like live our lives and like move through the world. And they just keep screwing us over and over again.

• 53:01Speaker 04

If only there was some sort of protocol to avoid all this.

• 53:03David Imel?

If only there were some sort of protocol.

• 53:06Speaker 01

  Here we go.

• 53:07David Imel?

  To avoid all this.

• 53:08Speaker 01

We should have like a button we can press where the background music starts getting louder as like David inches towards another protocol.

• 53:15David Imel?

  Shout out.

• 53:16Speaker 03

He is right. Like, that's the thing is like, he's right.

• 53:19David Imel?

I know. Stop booing me. I'm right.

• 53:21Speaker 03

This is so much crazier on the tail of two weeks ago, the Meta boss came out and made that statement that was like, look, we get it. We've tortured our engineers, like moving that many of them over to the applied AI team and making them craft these games and training exercises for AI. Like, we get it. We've like ruined the morale of this company. But new Instagram filters, baby. Let's go. You want to look like some animal? It's done. It was all worth it.

• 53:49David Imel?

A couple of months ago, okay, go ahead.

• 53:51Andrew Manganelli?

I was just gonna say, not just any animal, an animal that I took a photo of and you stole from me.

• 53:55David Imel?

You stole, yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, like a couple of months ago, Adam Mosseri put out that like 20 post Instagram post that was like, careful, guys, it's getting harder to tell what's real and what's fake. You've got to be really vigilant. We're living in difficult times. So here's more ways to create slop.

• 54:13David Imel?

You know? So, anyway, they also launched a web tool where you can upload a photo to see if it was AI-generated by Muse AI, because it has an invisible watermark.

• 54:23Speaker 01

  That's nice.

• 54:23Speaker 03

  Oh, wait, that's good.

• 54:25David Imel?

Yeah, I mean, they did the absolute minimum. It's it's just.

• 54:28Speaker 04

That should be built into the app, but at least they have it.

• 54:30David Imel?

It should be built into the app. It should be built into the app.

• 54:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, anything should.

• 54:34David Imel?

  Properly tagged.

• 54:34Andrew Manganelli?

  It should be tagged.

• 54:36David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 54:36Andrew Manganelli?

  All of them.

• 54:36David Imel?

I'm not sure if it will be tagged because I haven't actually seen any of these generations. They have some animations on their page and they don't look tagged to me. Seems like the watermark is invisible. Um, yeah, I don't know, guys. We didn't expect them to do anything else, but.

• 54:52Speaker 01

Is it just me or does an invisible watermark kind of defeat the purpose of a watermark?

• 54:57David Imel?

Well, it's like you can upload it to a tool and the tool is the only thing that's able to see.

• 55:02Speaker 04

It's. It's up to the app developer to make a physical thing. Well, not physical, I guess, but like a label for you, the user, to see. But the computer in the background would see it.

• 55:11Andrew Manganelli?

I agree with you, Marquez. It's like this, if we're creating all these things with invisible watermarks, when X misinformation gets posted and 1 million people see it.

• 55:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:22Andrew Manganelli?

Then the follow up thing is like, oh, this is a fake image because we found the invisible watermark.

• 55:27David Imel?

  Point zero zero for.

• 55:28Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, 100,000 of the 1 million see that front.

• 55:31David Imel?

  Not even 100,000.

• 55:32Andrew Manganelli?

  It doesn't matter that it's it's there's a watermark that says it's AI.

• 55:36Speaker 01

Like all of the places where it's most important to know that it's AI are all the places where you're least likely to check if it's AI or not.

• 55:43David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:44Speaker 01

And that strikes me as like a pretty important dynamic. I don't know how much more like watermark-y they want to get with it. But like if I'm scrolling social media or if I'm like seeing an image that is just sort of passing me and I'm not going to like spend a whole bunch of extra time with it, I'm probably not going to check. And those are the ones that are most likely to be AI and that's going to matter.

• 56:03Speaker 04

But you shouldn't have to check.

• 56:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 56:04Speaker 04

The app itself should see the watermark and display that information to you.

• 56:08Speaker 01

It should. Ideally, that works perfectly every time. I have a lot of experience with it not working perfectly. Hopefully it gets better.

• 56:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 56:14Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, Twitter tries to say things are AI, but half of them aren't AI. It just seems like it's getting confused.

• 56:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, I've seen both.

• 56:21Andrew Manganelli?

Some of them are just photo shops.

• 56:22Speaker 01

Yeah, I've seen both. I've seen uploading a thumbnail to Twitter and it goes, this has AI. Let me label it. I'm like, no, it doesn't. And I've also seen random Facebook slop that just doesn't say it's AI anymore. And it's clearly AI. So I'm like, all right, this is not perfect yet, but um, it would be nice.

• 56:36David Imel?

It's almost like there should be a universal protocol where all of these can use the same invisible watermark in every platform.

• 56:46Speaker 01

It should be a French horn in the background. Every time he starts saying.

• 56:51Andrew Manganelli?

It's almost as if bum bum bum.

• 56:54Speaker 03

If you would like to opt out of the service, you go to your Instagram settings, look for the sharing and reuse tab and look for the header, allow people to use your content on Instagram.

• 57:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Turn that off.

• 57:08Speaker 03

And with AI features on that or whatever, I don't know, but.

• 57:11David Imel?

I turned it off before the podcast started.

• 57:13Speaker 03

  Yeah, I just.

• 57:13David Imel?

I know people will try to do it, but no can do for you.

• 57:18Speaker 03

  Nice.

• 57:19David Imel?

Yeah, opt out. Opt out is always lame.

• 57:22Speaker 03

Am I allowed to say that? These alleged criminals, but not by me.

• 57:26David Imel?

I think you are alleging that.

• 57:27Speaker 03

  I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't know why I did anything. Meta legal department.

• 57:33David Imel?

  All right, well.

• 57:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, other social media news.

• 57:36David Imel?

  Yep.

• 57:36Andrew Manganelli?

Twitter's new editing tool. They just announced their video editing and recorder tool inside their iOS app. It can basically do everything you're expecting a vertical video editing tool on a social media app can do, which is overlay text and auto captioning and like green screen effects. Is this 2026, the year of the green screen vertical video recorder? Every phone seems to do it now.

• 58:02David Imel?

  Android added it into Android.

• 58:04Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and doesn't Apple have it now also?

• 58:07David Imel?

  I don't think so.

• 58:08Speaker 03

It's in final cut, the auto magnetic mask thing.

• 58:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, that's like.

• 58:12David Imel?

  Yeah, but that's.

• 58:13Andrew Manganelli?

This is like the, yeah, like Android has it to now, like when you're screen recording, like everything.

• 58:17David Imel?

Reactions, like you can react to the video behind you.

• 58:22Andrew Manganelli?

They're saying that this is so Twitter users can now create original content. But what really was interesting about this is after Nikita tweeted, Nikita Bear tweeted this, you know, new tool.

• 58:33David Imel?

  Who is Nikita Bear?

• 58:34Andrew Manganelli?

He is. He's like the BBS product. Something product of Twitter. Yeah, I tried not to listen to anything.

• 58:41David Imel?

  He's a lot of power.

• 58:42Speaker 03

He's the guy that's texting, texting clavicular.

• 58:45Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't even.

• 58:45David Imel?

  He's head of product.

• 58:47Andrew Manganelli?

  Head of product. Okay.

• 58:49David Imel?

He's also an advisor at Solana.

• 58:51Andrew Manganelli?

So, okay, there we go. Made a great phone. Okay. Someone tweeted that this is the TikTok-ification of the, or the TikTok-ification of the site continues, which he responded a bunch of different things. We'll show the, the whole tweet in, in the video podcast. But a couple of lines from that that I thought was interesting. He said, "Many videos from top accounts are simply stolen from other users, sometimes five years after they originally went viral." No [bleep]. I mean, I think we all know Twitter is pretty engagement farming at this point. I mean, a lot of social media is, especially vertical video, short form content likes to steal a lot of content.

• 59:29Speaker 01

Yeah, this isn't, this is, I've found this to be a one-way issue specifically with TikTok going to all the other websites. Like YouTube Shorts has this problem, Instagram Reels has this problem, Twitter has this problem. Everyone's taking things from TikTok because people make their video in TikTok's editor, and it gets the TikTok watermark, and it's clearly a TikTok, and it has the end screen when it's done. And then that goes to the other site, and YouTube hates that. Everyone has a different version of dealing with it.

• 59:54Andrew Manganelli?

Instagram like penalized you for it.

• 59:56Speaker 01

Yeah, if it was very clearly a TikTok, they would penalize it in the algorithm, and they'd much rather use their tools. I think YouTube might have also done the same thing, where if you have that like watermark or, you know, end screen that's TikTok, they don't like that either. So yeah, what's Twitter doing about it?

• 1:00:11Andrew Manganelli?

Well, so they're making their own so that you can then make your original content. But I feel like the, the issue with this is so many people like short form content because it's like pretty low risk, high reward, where you can make a one-minute-long vertical video with your phone and post it to four different platforms, exactly the same. We do it all the time, and what sticks on which platform is a total, a total guess. So I don't know if anyone's seen Billy Madison, but there's a scene where they throw pickles up on a window, and it falls down, pickle mentioned, and they raise the pickles. Like, whenever someone asks me, "What's your strategy for short form content?", I like send them that scene.

• 1:00:53Andrew Manganelli?

I was like, "One of the pickles might go faster than the other pickles. I don't know. It's all a guess." So. So they now want to be the one making it? I don't think this is gonna necessarily mean original content's gonna be made on Twitter just because of it. And also, could I not just rip a video and bring it into the Twitter video recording tool and still steal all the content I want to steal?

• 1:01:17Speaker 03

That's how, next time I upload my full-length render of the backrooms, all an hour and a half of it, I can have me doing a funny little jig keyed on top of it.

• 1:01:26Andrew Manganelli?

Or you just have to be like the 20% of the bottom, just like looking up in your computer chair like you're reacting to it.

• 1:01:33Speaker 01

I honestly think their best bet might be doing the thing that has worked in every other dimension of encouraging engagement, which is just, obviously penalize, or like, make it literally ineligible for monetization if it's stolen from another platform. And you can pretty easily auto-detect the ones that are stolen from TikTok, because it has the TikTok watermark and the end screen. And I think YouTube Shorts now, if you make it in the YouTube Shorts editor and export that, it has a YouTube logo in it. So if Twitter wants to be so serious about being the place where you create the content, then you can penalize or even disqualify from monetization the stuff that is stolen. The big accounts will not benefit from stealing, and then everything will start trending towards you having original content.

• 1:02:18Speaker 03

You know, Marcus, it's funny you say that, because a big, big, big, huge part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the DFCA, is that in order to be legally protected from copyrighted stuff being posted on a platform you own, you need to be making a "good faith," a quote-unquote "good faith" effort to remove it, which...

• 1:02:37Andrew Manganelli?

  To remove it?

• 1:02:38Speaker 03

Like YouTube, I think, even though they're not awesome at it, like you could at least say they're making a good faith effort. Twitter does not make a good faith effort. I don't know what it looks like. Dude, the amount of full movies I get when I'm just scrolling videos on Twitter, like, like Twitter makes no effort to remove. I mean, maybe they do somewhere, but it's not, it's not good faith, I'll tell you that much.

• 1:03:04Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:03:04Andrew Manganelli?

It also apparently only matters if you're an iPhone user because this isn't on the Android app.

• 1:03:09Speaker 04

  Oh my.

• 1:03:10Andrew Manganelli?

Which they said they're working on, but I don't know. It's, I feel like this could have just been like, hey, we're releasing this. Let's not make it some big statement on how we're correcting stolen content. Just say you're terrible at removing stolen content and hope this enables some people to be able to make more original content. I don't know. It seemed pretty dumb. I need to start ending these ad breaks on a more positive story.

• 1:03:33Speaker 04

I got into my Apple Note that was been locked for so long. And I finally guessed the correct password. So that is, that is my good news of the day.

• 1:03:42Speaker 01

  Well, congratulations.

• 1:03:43Speaker 04

  Thank you.

• 1:03:43David Imel?

  What was the password?

• 1:03:45Speaker 04

  The password was.

• 1:03:47Speaker 01

Nice. Wait, I actually do know what it is.

• 1:03:50Speaker 03

You can password protect Apple Notes?

• 1:03:52Speaker 04

  A specific note.

• 1:03:53Speaker 03

  Whoa.

• 1:03:54Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:03:54Speaker 01

  Yeah, not suspicious at all.

• 1:03:56David Imel?

So your girlfriend can't get into it.

• 1:03:58Speaker 04

Fiance now. LG G7, thank you. She just covers what's in that note.

• 1:04:07Speaker 04

Nice. LG G7, thank you. You mentioned it before. It launched.

• 1:04:13Speaker 03

  With what version of Android?

• 1:04:16Speaker 04

  Hmm. What year is it?

• 1:04:19Speaker 01

I can't even go in reverse order from today's LG phone because there is none.

• 1:04:24David Imel?

  That's true.

• 1:04:25Speaker 01

So I have to go back to G7? Okay, so G5.

• 1:04:29Speaker 04

I think I know the year.

• 1:04:30Andrew Manganelli?

I'll give you an extra point if you get the code name.

• 1:04:33David Imel?

  Can I say the year?

• 1:04:35Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:04:36David Imel?

  The code name?

• 1:04:37Speaker 04

LG has code, I guess everyone.

• 1:04:39Speaker 01

I think I have the year.

• 1:04:39Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, I got a version of Android.

• 1:04:41Speaker 01

  Towards.

• 1:04:42David Imel?

  Shamu.

• 1:04:46Andrew Manganelli?

  It's the Nexus.

• 1:04:47Speaker 01

I, we, yeah, we should, okay. Answers will be at the end like usual. We'll be right back.

• 1:05:02Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more. So nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

• 1:07:14David Imel?

Welcome back. Okay, this is sort of a rant and also sort of a "I understand something now" that I think a lot of people might not understand.

• 1:07:24Speaker 01

Does that mean you're seeing both sides of this?

• 1:07:26David Imel?

I'm in the middle. Okay, so we're all using iOS 27 Beta 3, correct? Not all of us.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

  I'm using Android.

• 1:07:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Android.

• 1:07:37David Imel?

All right. Alice is not... Okay, are you in Beta 3? Yes. Marquez and I are all using iOS 27 Beta 3. Okay. So, something that's been kind of weird in iOS 27 in general, the Beta, is that, you know, we've talked a lot about how all of the Apple apps have all this special access to Siri. Siri's the big update in iOS 27, and we've been wondering, you know, is Siri only gonna be good with Apple apps? When I ask questions about personal context, and it only sorts through my Messages app, but it can't go through Telegram, can't go through Signal, stuff like that. If I ask it to send an email in Gmail, and it just can't do it. It can like open Gmail, but it can't do anything else, you know? The big question has been,

• 1:08:23David Imel?

is Apple gonna try to keep people in their walled garden where if you use Apple apps, everything's wonderful and dandy and nice and clean and beautiful? And I discovered an answer late last night. Okay. So, as it turns out, Apple is allowing developers to, you know, allow their apps to give personal context, all of this stuff, to Siri. Yes. But, the current version of Xcode that's in Beta does not allow you to ship apps with these functions yet. So, right now, you can do them in test flight. So if you have a test flight version of an app, you can see what Siri might be able to do with it once everything comes out. Everyone's sort of, you know,

• 1:09:08David Imel?

not officially reviewing Siri, but everyone's just posting about like, "Here's what Siri can do, here's what Siri can't do." Everyone's frustrated. And it turns out, we're not actually going to see the full capabilities of the new Siri until it officially launches on like the iPhone 18.

• 1:09:23Speaker 01

  Yes, in September.

• 1:09:25David Imel?

  In September.

• 1:09:26Speaker 01

Yeah, I think this is something that I've found to be generally true for a lot of like, a lot of the big iOS updates, you'll see a lot of your apps get that update in September.

• 1:09:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:39Speaker 01

So they're not pushing like, when we got Liquid Glass, we had like months and months during the summer of like, oh, okay, what developers are going to embrace Liquid Glass? And not a whole lot of them did. And then September happened and the new iPhone came out and then everyone got the update and then a bunch of our most popular apps started to get Liquid Glass.

• 1:09:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:09:55Speaker 01

I think that's generally true about most of the big stuff in iOS, whether it's adopting new features or new plugs that developers can jump into.

• 1:10:02David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:10:03Speaker 01

That stuff will wait until the September drop.

• 1:10:05David Imel?

Yeah, I think that the confusion around this is that, we talked a lot about app intents, right? Which is this ability for apps to have this list of functionality that can be used in shortcuts. And that's been around for a long time. That's been around for like five years. But the new version of iOS is introducing two new things. It's introducing entity schemas and intent schemas. And entity schemas are like index cards. It tells the app, this is a recipe, it tells Siri, this is a recipe, this is a photo, this is a note. Siri can read those cards and it can answer however it needs to use that.

• 1:10:40Speaker 01

And it has like a set number of category things.

• 1:10:43David Imel?

Yes. As far as I understand, there are a ton.

• 1:10:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:10:46David Imel?

There are like a lot. There used to be not that many when it was on an older version of shortcuts, but now there's like a ton.

• 1:10:52Speaker 01

I heard, I was listening to a podcast with the Flighty developers. Apparently Flights is not one of them yet.

• 1:10:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:57Speaker 01

And they were like, please add that.

• 1:10:59David Imel?

Yeah, that seems like one of them that should be there.

• 1:11:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:11:02David Imel?

And then there's intent schemas, which is the app that can tell, the app can tell Siri like what buttons it's allowed to press, sort of, you know? So I think this is, this is just a very different way than, than Google looks at the AI version of Gemini using your phone because Google's like, we're just gonna have Gemini agentically press buttons.

• 1:11:20Speaker 01

  Figure it out.

• 1:11:21David Imel?

Yeah, figure it out. And this is a very classic Apple mentality of like, we will give you the, the limited tools that we expect people are going to want to use. And to Apple's credit, apparently that list is very, very long, although it apparently does not include flights.

• 1:11:39Speaker 01

  Lights, yeah.

• 1:11:39David Imel?

Which is annoying for flighty, very annoying for flighty. But the developers I talked to in over the last couple of days were very, very positive and excited about like, when this officially launches. And they were very intent on being like, hey, we're not really seeing the full version of the new Siri right now. It's only in Apple's apps because Apple's apps have all these capabilities and they're sort of seen as like the, this is what your app should be able to do. But until, yeah, until it officially launches, I don't think we're gonna be able to see everything. So the, the big question is still, will Google adopt schemas and app intents?

• 1:12:17Speaker 01

  Please.

• 1:12:18David Imel?

Uh, the newer version of app intents.

• 1:12:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:20David Imel?

It would be really nice. Uh, we really need to push them to do that because again, without Google adopting that, it makes Siri half useless.

• 1:12:28Speaker 01

Yeah, so just for an example for that, to be clear.

• 1:12:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:31Speaker 01

Like, right now, if I ask about, like, where am I going to be in a week? It will go, okay, you're asking specifically for a calendar event, so now we search for a calendar event, let me look at what all of the developers on this phone have labeled as calendar events.

• 1:12:44David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:45Speaker 01

Right now, that's just Apple Calendar because that's Apple's app.

• 1:12:48David Imel?

  Mm-hmm.

• 1:12:49Speaker 01

And then the other apps have been updated yet. In the future, we are hoping that other calendar apps, specifically Google Calendar.

• 1:12:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:56Speaker 01

Will also label all of their events as calendar events using this built-in tool so that Siri will be able to see those and will be able to pull from that app and answer it. So as of right now, we just have Apple's apps, which like as I test Siri, I'm just getting like stuff from Google Photos, stuff from Google, oh, sorry, stuff from Apple Photos, stuff from iMessage, stuff from my calendar, and it's it's pretty simple.

• 1:13:20David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:21Speaker 01

It also like fails at answering a lot of things because I say, oh, do you know this about me? And it goes, no.

• 1:13:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:26Speaker 01

But if I ask, where was I? It will pull from the geolocation of the photos that I took on those dates.

• 1:13:33David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:13:33Speaker 01

  So that's pretty cool.

• 1:13:34David Imel?

  In Apple.

• 1:13:34Speaker 01

But yeah, from Apple Photos, but it would be nice if there was some more third-party support.

• 1:13:39David Imel?

Yeah, and the reason this is very confusing is because, again, App Intent have existed for a long time, but the old version of App Intent was much more limited to the things that it could do, because those are integrated to shortcuts. So everything that shortcuts can do, Siri AI should be able to do. But now, because we're introducing these new schemas, it's going to be a lot more flexible. There's going to be a lot more things that it'll be able to do. So I've been seeing people tweeting like a lot throughout the week, like, oh, has anyone actually seen any apps that support the new Siri yet? It's kind of weird that it's not out. The reason it's not out is because Apple literally does not allow it to be out yet. So hopefully we'll see it in the full version.

• 1:14:18Speaker 01

  In the fall.

• 1:14:19David Imel?

When I want to clear that up. Yeah.

• 1:14:20Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:14:20David Imel?

  So.

• 1:14:22Speaker 01

Wait, so the rant is? It's not out yet?

• 1:14:25David Imel?

The rant is that it's not a really, well, this is why I said it's not really a rant. I'm just sort of clarifying because a lot of people are like, a lot of people were thinking, is this another Apple-walled garden approach of only letting the new Siri be magical with Siri?

• 1:14:42Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:14:42David Imel?

Or with Apple apps? And if you like, because I use Telegram a lot, right?

• 1:14:46Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:14:46David Imel?

It can't pull any of my personal contacts from Telegram right now.

• 1:14:49Speaker 01

  Right.

• 1:14:49David Imel?

But if Telegram supports app schemas when iOS 27 officially launches, then I'll be able to pull messages from Telegram, personal contacts from Telegram.

• 1:14:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:00David Imel?

Google Gmail, if Google supports it. We really need you to support this, Google. If you do not support this, Siri is like semi-useless.

• 1:15:07Speaker 01

Just like how they put YouTube on the Apple Vision Pro.

• 1:15:09David Imel?

  That's, that's the thing.

• 1:15:11Andrew Manganelli?

They did, eventually. It sounds really funny to be like. No one cared. Hey, Google, please save Siri.

• 1:15:15David Imel?

  Yeah, that's, that's.

• 1:15:17Andrew Manganelli?

Just the way you're saying it.

• 1:15:18David Imel?

  I know, I know, I know, I know.

• 1:15:19Speaker 01

Is it in Google's best interest? I guess. Okay, this is actually a real question.

• 1:15:23David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:24Speaker 01

Is Google so ubiquitous and powerful enough that it's actually better for them to not support this because it makes Siri worse and it makes you more likely to want to use a phone that it does work on? Or is it not powerful enough and you're going, wow, Siri doesn't work with Gmail, let me switch to Yahoo Mail? Like, I think you're probably gonna keep using Google services no matter what.

• 1:15:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:49Speaker 01

So if it doesn't, if they choose not to support all these Siri intents, what does that mean for users?

• 1:15:54David Imel?

Yeah, okay, so I talked to Matthew Cassinelli about this. He was on the shortcuts team when it got acquired by Apple, so he's like very well versed in this stuff. And I asked him about this because I was like, hey, Gmail shows, suggests, like, they show ads inside of Gmail when you open Gmail. So wouldn't Apple not be incentivized, or wouldn't Google not be incentivized to allow Apple to just give you the information instead of opening the app? And he said, that's kind of true, but at the same time, Google is already planning for a future where ads that are shown in front of you are not their main revenue driver.

• 1:16:27Speaker 01

  True.

• 1:16:28David Imel?

So he thinks that the experience benefit of the app having a good experience is going to be more important than actually opening the app in the future. Now, that's probably a lot more true for smaller individual developers than it is for like Google who just wants to monopolize your eyeballs all the time. But it, they're still, I don't know, you gotta weigh the pros and cons there.

• 1:16:51Speaker 01

Yeah, I do, I feel like if it's, if you're a smaller, more competitive developer, you have others who are in the same class as you, you're like, oh, I definitely want to support this because all of my competitors will, and if I don't support it, people might not want to use my app.

• 1:17:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:04Speaker 01

But if you're Google, that is an interesting place to come from. I hope they support it.

• 1:17:08Speaker 04

I feel like there is a little bit of pressure on Google, though, to support it. Because if you have a bad experience in the Gmail app on iPhone, you'll probably just download a different mail app or whatever.

• 1:17:19Andrew Manganelli?

Or you're not sitting there being like, oh, my iPhone's broken.

• 1:17:21Speaker 04

  Yeah.

• 1:17:22Andrew Manganelli?

Why do I sound like an old shell? But yeah, they're gonna be like, Google's being a pain in the neck right now. And also just like, Google wants people on their services. If your services sucked on the hardware that 85% of Americans use. You're shooting yourself in the foot.

• 1:17:40Speaker 04

Chances are they'll switch email apps before they switch phones.

• 1:17:43David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:17:44Speaker 01

  Well, they switch email services.

• 1:17:45David Imel?

The reason they can switch email apps is because email is an open protocol.

• 1:17:50Speaker 04

Get the French horn, get the French horn.

• 1:17:53David Imel?

So I will say, honestly, yeah, if Google doesn't support this stuff, I would probably switch email apps. I'm not like that tied to Gmail, the Gmail app. I just use it because I've always used it.

• 1:18:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:18:04David Imel?

But if Siri could pull personal contacts from a different.

• 1:18:07Speaker 04

  From like Outlook or something?

• 1:18:08Speaker 01

Okay, the thing is, you're saying you're switching your app. But like, I switched to Notion Calendar, but Notion Calendar has to pull from Google Calendar the service.

• 1:18:17David Imel?

  Right.

• 1:18:17Speaker 01

So is Notion Calendar able to show those flags?

• 1:18:20David Imel?

I guess Apple Calendar, Apple, Apple, okay, wait, Calendar.

• 1:18:25Speaker 01

If I do Calendar, for example.

• 1:18:26David Imel?

I mean, it would be whatever Calendar app supported the schemas.

• 1:18:30Andrew Manganelli?

I think Calendar or Mail, because you're just logging into your Google account on both of them. So it's being reflected on Apple, like it's not the main thing.

• 1:18:38David Imel?

Well, if you sync your Google Calendar to your Apple Calendar, yes. It's also pull the data from the Apple Calendar app, which doesn't always transfer correctly.

• 1:18:46Speaker 01

Yeah, that's, that's a whole nother dimension that I'm not as an expert about. Like, I, I don't think it would, like, okay, iMessage, if I search for it in Siri, it has the entire history of all my iMessages ever. Because I can just pull from that.

• 1:18:58David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:58Speaker 01

But if I have Gmail, the app on my phone, that's not storing locally all of the emails I've ever had and all of the attachments I've ever had.

• 1:19:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:10Speaker 01

So it has, it has the ability to go look that stuff up. Now, if I use a different email app, that's even less connected. That's now able to pull from Gmail the service, but it's not, it's storing probably even less locally than the Gmail app is.

• 1:19:23David Imel?

But it could probably, Siri could probably do a thing where it searches within the email app and then pulls the context out and just surfaces it to you. Without actually like.

• 1:19:31Speaker 01

And theoretically, that's the same level of access if it if it knows to go search the cloud.

• 1:19:37Andrew Manganelli?

It should be because of beauty of protocols.

• 1:19:39David Imel?

  Because of.

• 1:19:40Speaker 01

  I hope so.

• 1:19:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:19:41Speaker 01

All right, I'm rooting for this protocol.

• 1:19:42David Imel?

To be fair, to be fair, email and calendar are like the worst examples of this because those are already open protocols. And so you should be able to sync those, your calendar and your email to Apple Calendar and Apple Mail anyway.

• 1:19:54Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, photos is probably the better example.

• 1:19:56David Imel?

Photos is a good example. Google Photos? Yeah, flights, I guess.

• 1:19:59Speaker 01

Like WhatsApp is another one. Remember, you used to not even be able to have WhatsApp on multiple devices at the same time.

• 1:20:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:05Speaker 01

So if you wanted to search your WhatsApp history from your iPad, you would be like, well, I don't know anything about WhatsApp.

• 1:20:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:11Speaker 01

Because that's on your iPhone. So that's another one.

• 1:20:14David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:15Speaker 03

Browser histories for freaking recipes. That's where that's the only place in my life where I need this. Do you know how annoying it is to be like, dude, I found the best chicharrones recipe ever and you can't remember, you didn't save the link? And you just want to know how much lime juice to add.

• 1:20:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 1:20:29Speaker 03

  And so you gotta.

• 1:20:30Speaker 01

  That's your fault.

• 1:20:31David Imel?

You'd have to use, right now, you have to use Siri if you want that data.

• 1:20:34Speaker 03

You gotta go back to Google, finally. You gotta click on a webpage. You gotta scroll through some [BLEEP] childhood story of going to the Dominican Republic. Just to, just to get to the, how is it my fault?

• 1:20:45Andrew Manganelli?

Because when you find a good recipe and you cook it and you know it's good, you immediately copy all of the important parts into a note somewhere.

• 1:20:52Speaker 03

  No, no, no, no.

• 1:20:53Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes, or a Google Doc.

• 1:20:54Speaker 03

Find a good recipe and you make it and it's good, you go, and then you forget because you're full. That's a perfectly understandable experience.

• 1:21:01Andrew Manganelli?

You didn't enjoy it enough then.

• 1:21:02Speaker 03

No, I enjoyed it so much.

• 1:21:04Andrew Manganelli?

That I never want to forget it again, yeah.

• 1:21:06Speaker 03

Oh, my God. There's so many recipes where I'm like.

• 1:21:08David Imel?

You don't know if it's good enough to save until you eat it. So you have to eat it first.

• 1:21:12Speaker 03

  Exactly.

• 1:21:13Andrew Manganelli?

And then make sure you're not sick the next morning again.

• 1:21:15David Imel?

  Who knows?

• 1:21:16Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. I save them. Or how many days are you going before you're like, oh, that was a good recipe four months ago and now I have to find it?

• 1:21:24Speaker 03

All the time, all the time.

• 1:21:26Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, by next day, you should at least be like, that was good. I should save that recipe. And then it's right there.

• 1:21:32Speaker 03

No, no, no. This is why they're inventing the robots, Andrew. This is exactly why.

• 1:21:37Andrew Manganelli?

If there is anything I really wanted AI for, it's terrible recipe websites.

• 1:21:41Speaker 01

Maybe Siri will pull from browser history. We'll see.

• 1:21:45David Imel?

I mean, yeah, if you use Safari right now.

• 1:21:48Speaker 01

  If you use Safari specifically.

• 1:21:50Speaker 03

And which one of us uses Safari?

• 1:21:51Andrew Manganelli?

Safari. It's also your fault. Oh my god.

• 1:21:54Speaker 04

Okay, wait, I do want to formally apologize to Ellis on the podcast because I have started using Safari again. And it is a good browser.

• 1:22:02Andrew Manganelli?

  That's.

• 1:22:03Speaker 04

I never said it was a.

• 1:22:04Andrew Manganelli?

I don't think Adam's opinions have any weight when he switches things every three months.

• 1:22:09Speaker 04

Yeah, that's why I wanted to try it. I was like, you know, I haven't tried Safari in a long time. I'm always talking about it. Let me actually just try it.

• 1:22:15Andrew Manganelli?

Next week. It's not bad. Pixel Browser is so much better than Safari.

• 1:22:18Speaker 04

  Pixel Browser?

• 1:22:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Pickle Browser?

• 1:22:20Speaker 04

  The Pickle Browser.

• 1:22:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Pickle Browser.

• 1:22:21Speaker 04

I think you're talking about the. Come back to Arc.

• 1:22:24David Imel?

  Vivaldi?

• 1:22:25Speaker 04

  Arc Mobile is a solid.

• 1:22:26David Imel?

Arc Mobile is solid. I still use it.

• 1:22:28Andrew Manganelli?

Arc Browser is that building they just found in Manhattan.

• 1:22:32Speaker 04

That's true. It's a deep cut and potentially a deep collapse. All right.

• 1:22:37David Imel?

  Jeez.

• 1:22:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Trivia.

• 1:22:39David Imel?

Trivia, trivia. Anyway, Google, support this stuff because I want to use Siri.

• 1:22:47Speaker 03

Also, just, just for the record, just for the record.

• 1:22:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:22:50Speaker 03

I know how much lime juice to put in future orders. It's more about the air fryer time, you know, I just can never, I, cause like you, I, there's the perfect like temp and time and you're like, how much was that the last time? And it's not like I'm buying a pork shoulder every week. Okay. This is, this is, anyway, guys, I'm in a pickle. I'm not in a pickle. I'm fine, but who said?

• 1:23:14Speaker 03

  I'm in a, that's pretty cool.

• 1:23:16David Imel?

  It was an English writer.

• 1:23:17Speaker 03

Yes, an English writer from England.

• 1:23:20David Imel?

  Name an English writer.

• 1:23:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Does spelling count?

• 1:23:23Speaker 03

  No.

• 1:23:26Speaker 04

Get it, Andrew. It's pretty easy to spell Harry Kane. I don't know what you're talking about.

• 1:23:30Speaker 03

World Cup joke. He's a, he's a, he's a, he's an author with his foot. He writes foot poetry.

• 1:23:37Andrew Manganelli?

Did you see him trying to talk after that game? He had like no voice. That was pretty awesome. Although I wanted Mexico to win.

• 1:23:44Speaker 03

I'm so excited to see what you guys wrote.

• 1:23:46David Imel?

  I don't know any authors.

• 1:23:52Speaker 01

You guys wrote the same one. That is interesting.

• 1:23:53Andrew Manganelli?

There's no only, no, literally the only thing I can think of.

• 1:23:56David Imel?

  There's one other one.

• 1:23:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, and all I want.

• 1:23:58Speaker 03

C.S. Lewis, J.R. Tolkien. There's plenty of people who are English writers.

• 1:24:02David Imel?

  Marquez wrote J.J. Abrams.

• 1:24:04Speaker 03

  Is he English?

• 1:24:05Speaker 01

I was trying to think of an author and I was like, there's one that has like a J, something, something.

• 1:24:09David Imel?

  He's a movie director.

• 1:24:10Speaker 01

No, I know this isn't an author. I couldn't think of J.R., whatever.

• 1:24:14Andrew Manganelli?

It's Bumblebee came down and said.

• 1:24:16Speaker 01

  Wait, is this right?

• 1:24:17Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm in a pickle, guys.

• 1:24:18David Imel?

  Is this right?

• 1:24:18Speaker 03

  That is correct.

• 1:24:19Speaker 01

  Yeah, Shakespeare.

• 1:24:21Speaker 03

I'm in a pickle is a Shakespearean turn of phrase from.

• 1:24:24David Imel?

  Right to me.

• 1:24:25Andrew Manganelli?

  The play.

• 1:24:27Speaker 03

  Called.

• 1:24:28Speaker 01

  Romeo and.

• 1:24:29Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm in a pickle.

• 1:24:30David Imel?

  Othello.

• 1:24:31Speaker 01

  Hamlet.

• 1:24:32David Imel?

  Hamlet.

• 1:24:33Speaker 03

Also, no, it's from The Tempest.

• 1:24:35Speaker 01

  Nobody knows about that.

• 1:24:36Speaker 03

And he used it in a slightly.

• 1:24:39Speaker 01

  He's like a three-hit wonder.

• 1:24:41Andrew Manganelli?

He's in a different way? Was he physically in a pickle?

• 1:24:44Speaker 03

Slightly, slightly different way. He used it to say, um, here, I can read you the exact quote.

• 1:24:50Speaker 01

  Thou art in thy pickle.

• 1:24:53Speaker 03

And Trinculo is reeling ripe. Where should they find this grand liquor that hath gilded them? How canst thou in this pickle? Then Trinculo responds, I have been in such a pickle since I saw you last. I fear me will never out of my bones. I shall not fear fly blowing. Which is Shakespearean English for saying, I drank so much alcohol that if I were to die, my body would be preserved and the flies could not grow maggots on it.

• 1:25:21Speaker 01

  Yo, that's fire.

• 1:25:24Speaker 01

  This guy's, this guy's good.

• 1:25:25Andrew Manganelli?

  What a beggar.

• 1:25:27Speaker 01

When you first read it, I was like, this is kind of trash, but now that you said the way it is today, that's pretty.

• 1:25:31Andrew Manganelli?

Now that you translated it for me.

• 1:25:32Speaker 04

The fact that Marquez said he's a three-hit wonder. I heard that.

• 1:25:35Andrew Manganelli?

  When they didn't have.

• 1:25:36David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:25:37Speaker 01

  Name four Shakespeare things.

• 1:25:40Speaker 03

  Tempest.

• 1:25:40David Imel?

  Hamlet, Hamlet, Hamlet.

• 1:25:42Speaker 03

  Romeo and Juliet.

• 1:25:43Speaker 01

  That's the other.

• 1:25:43Speaker 03

  Hamlet and.

• 1:25:45Speaker 01

  There you go.

• 1:25:46Speaker 03

  King.

• 1:25:46Andrew Manganelli?

  What else?

• 1:25:47David Imel?

  King Jordan.

• 1:25:49Speaker 03

  What's the, uh, wait, wow, I guess I can't name a four.

• 1:25:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Transformers.

• 1:25:53David Imel?

  Transformers.

• 1:25:54Speaker 01

  It's okay to be a three-hit wonder. That's cool.

• 1:25:55Speaker 03

No, uh, it's Summer Night's Dream. Boom, four.

• 1:25:58David Imel?

Dude, before they had TikTok, people got good at stuff. It was crazy.

• 1:26:02Speaker 03

Dude, before TikTok, people had hobbies. It's crazy.

• 1:26:04David Imel?

  Yeah, like writing.

• 1:26:05Speaker 03

  I know.

• 1:26:07David Imel?

  Uh.

• 1:26:09David Imel?

I don't know. Wait, this reminds me of something I want to tell you. So you know, you know the phrase, don't cry over spilled milk? That's from Frankenstein.

• 1:26:18Speaker 04

It was actually from Frankenstein's monster.

• 1:26:21Speaker 01

  That's the thing.

• 1:26:22David Imel?

No. I don't think Frankenstein's monster said that. I don't think Frankenstein's monster said that. Anyway.

• 1:26:30Speaker 01

It was Final Jeopardy like two days ago. It's like, actually, it's Frankenstein's monster.

• 1:26:35David Imel?

The actual phrase is, "The milk that is spilled cries not out afterwards." Yeah.

• 1:26:42Speaker 03

Oh, that's also a bar. I like that. Good job, Mary Shelley.

• 1:26:45David Imel?

  I know.

• 1:26:48Speaker 04

All right, let's dumb this down a bit.

• 1:26:50David Imel?

  Well, that's just the.

• 1:26:50Speaker 04

The LG G7 Think Q launched with what version of Android?

• 1:26:55David Imel?

  Hemoglobin ID.

• 1:26:57Speaker 04

Thou veins will run through doubt camera.

• 1:27:04David Imel?

  Thou well twist thou pong.

• 1:27:06Speaker 01

  Android 17 today, so.

• 1:27:09David Imel?

  Are we on 17?

• 1:27:16Speaker 04

Quick update on the score while you guys write the answers. Marquez with 32, Andrew with 28, David with 33. Flip him and read. What do you got?

• 1:27:26Speaker 01

  Think about this one.

• 1:27:27David Imel?

  Oh, shoot. Andrew and I.

• 1:27:28Speaker 01

No shot. You're both right again. This would be so tough.

• 1:27:31David Imel?

  I don't think we're both.

• 1:27:32Speaker 04

  It's terrible for the program.

• 1:27:33David Imel?

  It might be nine.

• 1:27:34Speaker 04

I was actually thinking nine, but 10 just seemed like.

• 1:27:36David Imel?

Andrew and I both wrote 10.

• 1:27:38Speaker 04

  You both wrote 10?

• 1:27:39David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:27:41Speaker 01

  Oh, guys.

• 1:27:42David Imel?

  It's nine.

• 1:27:42Speaker 04

  Is it nine?

• 1:27:43Speaker 03

  Marquez, what'd you say?

• 1:27:44Speaker 01

  I said 11.

• 1:27:45Speaker 04

  11?

• 1:27:46Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:46David Imel?

  It's nine.

• 1:27:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:27:47Speaker 04

  Is it nine? Android Oreo.

• 1:27:50David Imel?

  8.0.

• 1:27:51Speaker 04

8.0. Oh, glad I was wrong either way.

• 1:27:54David Imel?

Yeah, I'm glad I was more wrong.

• 1:27:56Speaker 01

I am more happy about you being wrong than I am mad about me being right.

• 1:28:00David Imel?

  Yeah. It's not only.

• 1:28:02Speaker 04

Doesn't do great for our reputation.

• 1:28:04David Imel?

  It's that other shit.

• 1:28:05Speaker 01

I just wouldn't have been able to.

• 1:28:06Speaker 04

  What year was it?

• 1:28:07Speaker 01

  Two points.

• 1:28:08David Imel?

  Uh, so 11?

• 1:28:09Speaker 04

  G7.

• 1:28:10David Imel?

  2018.

• 1:28:12Speaker 04

  That's why I was reading 19.

• 1:28:13Speaker 01

  G7.

• 1:28:15David Imel?

No, it was eight. It was eight, not 11.

• 1:28:17Speaker 04

  Oh.

• 1:28:18Speaker 01

  2018.

• 1:28:19David Imel?

Yeah. I remember that because literally everything in my entire life happened in 2018 for some reason.

• 1:28:25Speaker 04

That was Andrew. You were born in 2018.

• 1:28:26David Imel?

  Dude.

• 1:28:28Speaker 01

  Nine years ago?

• 1:28:29David Imel?

I broke my foot on the

• 1:28:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, May, so

• 1:28:31David Imel?

  China in 2018.

• 1:28:32Andrew Manganelli?

I would have been right after.

• 1:28:33Speaker 01

  Okay.

• 1:28:33Speaker 03

  Just like the Mongols.

• 1:28:35Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, so you knew the year, you just counted wrong?

• 1:28:38David Imel?

I didn't count at all. I just, I just guessed.

• 1:28:41Speaker 01

I was distracted trying to do math and I didn't do it well.

• 1:28:44Andrew Manganelli?

I was trying to do math, but then I realized the math was my one hand has five fingers and my other hand has three and it was taking a long time to put them together.

• 1:28:51David Imel?

Yeah, I was trying to remember because Google had me do like, uh, they gave me like an inside scoop about getting rid of the, um, the names of Android and just switching to 10. And I did a whole like video thing about why they were doing it. And I just remembered the Airbnb that I was staying in and I thought it was around 2018.

• 1:29:07Speaker 01

  That?

• 1:29:07David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:29:08Speaker 01

  The, uh...

• 1:29:09David Imel?

  It's called complex reasoning.

• 1:29:11Speaker 01

  That's some AI level inferencing.

• 1:29:13David Imel?

  Some OPUS 4.9 kind of...

• 1:29:16Speaker 01

That's back when you can add a software notch to your phone.

• 1:29:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Software notch.

• 1:29:21Speaker 01

  Remember that?

• 1:29:21Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 1:29:22Speaker 03

  Good old days.

• 1:29:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Look what we lost.

• 1:29:24Speaker 01

Phones would have either a notch or you could like cancel the entire top

• 1:29:28David Imel?

  Oh, my god.

• 1:29:30Speaker 01

  with software.

• 1:29:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:29:31Speaker 01

That's a, that's a throwback. Anyway, well, we'll end the nostalgia because clearly nostalgia is bad. Um, thank you for watching. Thank you for listening. Hopefully, uh, if you missed the mime section, you come back to the video version so you can appreciate that.

• 1:29:44Speaker 03

  Oh!

• 1:29:46Speaker 01

Until next week. See you later.

• 1:29:48David Imel?

  Goodbye.

• 1:29:49Speaker 01

  Peace.

• 1:29:50Speaker 03

  I'm in a box?

• 1:29:53David Imel?

  I escaped the box?

• 1:29:56Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, from Respriced by Adam Levine and Ellis Tovin, partnered with Vox Media Podcast Network and our trapshot music was created by Vane Still.

• 1:30:01Speaker 01

• 1:30:12Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 1:30:15Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet?

• 1:30:17Andrew Manganelli?

I sniffed really bad when you started. I'm gonna save Ellis from fixing that one later.
