Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from, but when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

That's J-I-R-A dot com. So I have beef with this.

• 1:22Andrew Manganelli?

  It's okay. What's your beef?

• 1:23Speaker 01

Back about 10, 12, 15 years ago when I was growing up, I had this mouse called the Cyborg Rat Mouse.

• 1:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Was it from Mad Cat?

• 1:32Speaker 01

Yeah, from Mad Cat. And it was a fully modular, just like, I got made fun of for that relentlessly. It's the same thing. Look at it. It's the same thing.

• 1:44Speaker 01

Yo, what's up, people of the internet? Welcome back to your regularly scheduled programming on the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marquez.

• 1:50Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:51Speaker 01

And I'm David. So the last episode we published, we published from South by Southwest, which was a lot of fun. It was live, recorded in front of that studio audience, is what we're going to call it? Sure. It was not a studio. It was a group of people. It was a fun time. We interacted with a lot of people. You can go back and listen to it and watch it on YouTube. It was sick. Now we're back. And of course, we did have a couple of you guys stay at South by Southwest and see some other stuff. So we'll get to some talking about that. But there's also some new Apple products, the Nothing Phone 4A Pro, and Samsung killing a product, and also our favorite YouTuber coming back from the dead. My man.

• 2:29David Imel?

  My man.

• 2:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 2:30David Imel?

  But first.

• 2:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Did they even test this?

• 2:32David Imel?

  Did they?

• 2:33Andrew Manganelli?

I'm just going at it again. I got a long list, apparently.

• 2:36David Imel?

This is gonna be Andrew's rant.

• 2:38Andrew Manganelli?

  This is.

• 2:38David Imel?

  Parts of the podcast, yeah.

• 2:40Andrew Manganelli?

All right. Marques, I know you don't watch a lot of YouTube on TV, on your TV, right?

• 2:44David Imel?

  Right.

• 2:44Andrew Manganelli?

So, for those of you who do.

• 2:46David Imel?

  Yeah, only on TV.

• 2:47Andrew Manganelli?

  You do, right?

• 2:48David Imel?

  Well, on my projector.

• 2:50Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, but have you ever gone into the history section to try and watch something? And realize that for some reason on the TV app? It lists previous shorts you've watched individually. So, for, I'll try and paint this picture really fast.

• 3:05David Imel?

Your problem is that you're watching shorts.

• 3:07Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I'm watching shorts on my phone, not on my TV. But shorts, you can watch 15 shorts in a minute, right? If you're just scrolling through.

• 3:15David Imel?

  15 shorts in 15 seconds.

• 3:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, yeah, exactly. So.

• 3:17Speaker 01

If you just swipe, if you just spam through like three in a row, does it count all of those as a?

• 3:21Andrew Manganelli?

It counts all of those as a singular watch in history.

• 3:23Speaker 01

  Really?

• 3:24Andrew Manganelli?

  So.

• 3:24Speaker 01

  Are you serious?

• 3:25Andrew Manganelli?

On your TV, if you were to do that very quickly, now when you go to the history section on your TV? The whole carousel of like previously watched things is now just short, short, short, short, short, short, shorts.

• 3:36Speaker 01

  They should just separate that.

• 3:37Andrew Manganelli?

So, the thing is, they know how to already, because on your desktop app? It's separated. If you go to the history on your desktop app, you can either click shorts or videos and it's even in two different sections. Or on mobile, the way they do it, which is how they should do it on TV is? In those thumbnails on like the carousel of different videos? One of them is just a combined thumbnail of all the previous shorts you kind of watched in the last time you were scrolling shorts. Therefore, not completely clogging it up. But on TV, the place where you are most likely to not watch shorts and only watch long form? If, let's say, what happens to me the most is I watch something like on the treadmill in the gym? Then sometime between then and when I go to bed to turn on, I've probably scrolled through a couple of shorts.

• 4:22Andrew Manganelli?

I have a 15 minute timer on mine, but that's even, if you watch 15? Now, when I get into bed later and try and find the video I watched? Cause it's not gonna show up on my homepage, cause I'm halfway through. The easiest way to do it is go into my history and be like, oh, that was literally the last YouTube video I watched. It's not there because there's 20 freaking shorts instead. And then I have to type it out on the remote, which is still the worst thing ever.

• 4:45Speaker 01

Yeah. Do you ever use a watch later feature on YouTube?

• 4:48David Imel?

  Constantly.

• 4:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, wait.

• 4:50Speaker 01

I add a million videos to my watch later and I never watch them later.

• 4:54Andrew Manganelli?

  What? Really?

• 4:55Speaker 01

I used to have that exact same behavior.

• 4:57Andrew Manganelli?

  How do you do it?

• 4:59Speaker 01

Uh, just in the app, there's a little watch.

• 5:01Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, sorry. Like, how do you personally use it? I use watch later as something I see pop up, don't watch and add to there to remember to watch it. Not halfway through, then click watch later and go back to it.

• 5:13Speaker 01

Yeah, I mean, if I'm halfway through a long video and I want to finish watching the rest later. I used to use the watch later feature on YouTube. Now I use, I used Pocket for a long time. That got killed. Now I use raindrop.io. I just save them all to that. But I used to use the watch later feature on YouTube and then I would just forget about stuff. And then I'd go back and I'd go, oh, there's 73 videos in here I meant to watch later. And that became tough. So, yeah.

• 5:35David Imel?

What you can do is you can watch like two seconds of it. And then the next time you open YouTube, it's like the first suggested video.

• 5:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Sometimes.

• 5:41Speaker 01

  Sometimes.

• 5:42Andrew Manganelli?

It feels like it debates on whether to send that to you or not. Yeah.

• 5:46David Imel?

Yeah, there's too much content uploaded. You just forget what you wanted to watch.

• 5:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 5:50David Imel?

  Too much stuff.

• 5:50Andrew Manganelli?

It's annoying. Do you know what would be easy? Just don't show me freaking shorts on my TV. Or separate them. Easy peasy.

• 5:58Speaker 01

I think we should get rid of shorts.

• 5:59Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't disagree.

• 6:01Speaker 01

Good luck convincing YouTube. I think the stat that I recently, I was on the Dude Perfect Podcast and we were trying to figure out how many views YouTube got per day.

• 6:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Was that views or uploaded?

• 6:10Speaker 01

I think views. I'll go back and double check, but I'm fairly sure we discovered that there's about a, oh, I want to get it right. Of five billion views per day of long form videos, but 200 billion views per day of shorts. And that ratio.

• 6:28Andrew Manganelli?

  On YouTube?

• 6:29Speaker 01

On YouTube. And that made it very clear to me that shorts are not going anywhere.

• 6:33David Imel?

Every person on earth watches like almost two videos.

• 6:37Speaker 01

Yeah, like one view is like three seconds or whatever. So.

• 6:41Speaker 03

  It's like saying like-

• 6:42David Imel?

  Like more than 220.

• 6:43Speaker 03

You know, people eat so many packs of Skittles per day, but people eat trillions of individual Skittles. It's like, alright, well, it's not a useful metric.

• 6:52David Imel?

Trillions. But the, uh, the supply versus the demand is, is crazy.

• 6:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, views.

• 6:58David Imel?

  I wouldn't say it's demand. I would say it's-

• 7:00Speaker 01

No, that's what I'm saying. There's not as much demand.

• 7:03David Imel?

Oh, I see what you're saying.

• 7:03Speaker 01

Or, sorry, there's a ton of demand, but not as much supply.

• 7:06David Imel?

  Of shorts.

• 7:06Speaker 01

So shorts just get tons of views because there's not that many shorts.

• 7:10David Imel?

  Not saturated.

• 7:11Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 7:12Andrew Manganelli?

Cause how long it takes to make a short, I mean, it's not that long, but into comparison of how fast we can rip through shorts when watching, like, you could sit down on the toilet and be through 50 shorts by just like-

• 7:24Speaker 01

Yeah, that's why the demand number of views is so high.

• 7:29Andrew Manganelli?

Do you think AI could make shorts?

• 7:30David Imel?

  Yes.

• 7:30Speaker 01

  AI is-

• 7:31David Imel?

  It's already, it's already-

• 7:33Speaker 01

It's already clogging the entire feed.

• 7:36David Imel?

My, okay, I have a YouTube complaint. It's not, and it, it's not a, did they even test this? Cause they probably did, and there's some stupid, apparently, technical reason. I think I brought this up before. On mic, so I, I use a projector. I use the Nebula X1, I think, projector. Um, very bright, kind of blinds me at night. And, uh, I don't know, I think that there might be a way to turn the brightness down, but I have not found it. Anyway, I told you last week about how there's the two different volume menus that it likes to just like randomly pick between, but there is no way to watch content, but change the playback speed on the projector.

• 8:11Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 8:11David Imel?

For some reason, when you, there is the option, there's a playback speed option, and when you go to click it, it's grayed out and it says not available on this device. And I think-

• 8:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Boo hoo.

• 8:20Speaker 01

So now you gotta like watch it as it was designed to be watched?

• 8:23Speaker 03

You gotta watch it in one time speed.

• 8:26David Imel?

  I've, we're on 3X now.

• 8:28Speaker 01

  That's not even real.

• 8:29David Imel?

  We're in 3X mode.

• 8:31Speaker 03

Why do you hate YouTube videos?

• 8:33David Imel?

  I hate everything.

• 8:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Can I go one step-

• 8:35David Imel?

I wanna move through life faster, so I die sooner.

• 8:39Andrew Manganelli?

I wanna go one step further in the wrong direction vaguely relative to this, but I was messing around with Adam the other day on my phone because the new Google update changed the animation when folders open on your homepage and has this little like-

• 8:53David Imel?

  The pixel update, yeah.

• 8:53Andrew Manganelli?

The pixel update, sorry. The bottom row kind of like folds out and I just don't like it. So I was in developer options, changing animation speed, and I had this brain fart where I see 0.5X is the faster. But then I was like, wait, no, does that mean it's going slower? So then I saw 10x and I was like, oh, this will be 10 times faster. And clicked it and then like swiped up and then it's 10 times slower. And you had the, the window just like.

• 9:19Andrew Manganelli?

I was like, oh my. I know it's a developer option, so you're not supposed to really do it or just to see like smoothness.

• 9:25David Imel?

You have to be a developer to do that.

• 9:27Andrew Manganelli?

  It was so funny though.

• 9:28Speaker 03

  It's like the matrix.

• 9:29Andrew Manganelli?

It's, it was, yeah, it was like Neo dodging bullets.

• 9:33David Imel?

Anyway, I, I do, I do watch content that, you know, well, now I watch all content at 1x speed on my projector. Cause I can't watch it at 3x speed.

• 9:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Nice.

• 9:42David Imel?

But, you know, content that's made to be consumed at normal speed, I will consume at normal speed.

• 9:47Andrew Manganelli?

  If it's talking head, 2x. If it's vlog, 2x.

• 9:52David Imel?

Yeah. See, how do you define content that was meant to be watched at normal speed? I would argue all, almost all content is meant to be watched. There's a lot of content that I watch for informational purposes and just to like. You're talking about podcasts? No. What is? Podcasts are mostly 1x for me. That's, that's the most shocking thing you said.

• 10:10Speaker 04

  What?

• 10:11David Imel?

That's really confusing. So what is not, oh, meant to be watched at 1x speed?

• 10:15Andrew Manganelli?

He's, he's explaining this. He's saying when he's like researching something, do the like 2x to really quickly listen to all of it. And then reference something he's reading later.

• 10:24David Imel?

Yeah. Or jump back to it.

• 10:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah. Or jump back.

• 10:26David Imel?

If it's supposed to be for like the visual, I have to watch the visuals and it's more about the experience than I do 1x. But if it's like, I just need to soak up this information, then it's like two to three.

• 10:36Andrew Manganelli?

Sometimes there's just a, I don't watch a lot of 2x, but sometimes there's a video where it's like super grasping bit of information in the title. Like there was one about how like Earth had 65 million years of rain, non-stop. And I was like, I want to listen to this real fast, but I don't have time for it. So quick 2x to basically just like.

• 10:55David Imel?

That sounds like such a visually interesting.

• 10:57Andrew Manganelli?

It had a lot of rain. That was crazy.

• 11:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Fair.

• 11:02Speaker 04

I'm not on YouTube to view your art. I'm there to learn things.

• 11:05Speaker 01

  How dare you?

• 11:07Andrew Manganelli?

  This podcast is art.

• 11:08Speaker 03

  Know who we work for?

• 11:10Speaker 01

  Thirty frames, one second.

• 11:12David Imel?

The reason I listen to podcasts at 1X speed generally is because I don't have enough new podcasts today. And if I run out, then how am I supposed to deal with my thoughts?

• 11:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Slow it down.

• 11:22David Imel?

I would panic. No, actually, yesterday I did go to the gym without anything and it was a raw dog day. It was crazy.

• 11:28Speaker 01

  The gym with no audio.

• 11:30Andrew Manganelli?

He just didn't work out either. He just stood there the whole time.

• 11:33David Imel?

Looked in the mirror for 45 minutes. I was like, I hate this. Why do people do this? Anyway, okay, we should move on. We were at South by Southwest as we just talked about, so we wanted to mention a few of the highlights that we saw in Austin, Texas.

• 11:49Andrew Manganelli?

Extremely short amount of time we were there. Some of us.

• 11:52David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 11:52Andrew Manganelli?

  I think.

• 11:53David Imel?

  Like 24 hours?

• 11:54Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, Marquez, Adam and I were there for less than 24 hours and then David and Ellis stayed for two days, Sunday?

• 12:01David Imel?

Yeah, stayed till Sunday. We saw.

• 12:04Speaker 03

  Wait, wait. First.

• 12:05David Imel?

  Yes.

• 12:06Speaker 03

Thank you to everyone who came.

• 12:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes, seriously.

• 12:07David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 12:07Speaker 03

That was amazing. That was so much fun. And also, we met so many of you and you guys were all so nice and cool and fun. And that was great. I had so much fun.

• 12:17Andrew Manganelli?

The crowd was a little smaller than last time, but I would argue louder and more rambocks. Oh, yes. Marquez on the audio said 30,000. It was probably like 25,000. A little less than we thought, but the crowd was awesome. Questions were great. Whoever we met, super cool. We met some people at In-N-Out like the night before, which was really awesome.

• 12:36David Imel?

And Ellis. So some other people we met at In-N-Out were in a band that was playing at South by Southwest. And then Ellis and I went to their show. And then this week they're coming to New York. They're from Australia, mate. And.

• 12:47Speaker 01

  In-N-Out's incredible, man.

• 12:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Do you know?

• 12:49David Imel?

And then we're gonna, we're gonna hang out with them this week.

• 12:51Speaker 03

Yeah, shout out Swap Meet the Band.

• 12:53David Imel?

  Swap Meet.

• 12:53Andrew Manganelli?

  We haven't figured it out.

• 12:54Speaker 01

  In-N-Out is having a week.

• 12:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 12:57David Imel?

  Cause Michael B. Jordan.

• 12:58Andrew Manganelli?

They asked Ellis if he was your Frisbee teammate. So we think they just know you from Frisbee and not from this.

• 13:04Speaker 01

  That's really funny. Yeah.

• 13:06Andrew Manganelli?

  It's pretty awesome.

• 13:06Speaker 01

It is funny that I was talking about the like, you know, meeting some of you guys and 99% of people who came up and said hi were saying, I've watched the videos or I've seen, I've started to get a variety of things they say, oh, you do the car videos. I'd be like, oh, yeah. Or I'll hear like, oh, you do the TikToks. I go, oh, yeah.

• 13:24Andrew Manganelli?

  The TikToks.

• 13:25Speaker 01

And I think. You were the guy at Fashion Week or uh. The [BLEEP]. Met Gala. Yeah, I don't get that anymore. But I do, I think like one out of every hundred will be like, oh, you're the frisbee guy. And I'm like, whoa, that's, that's, that's a throw.

• 13:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Did you?

• 13:39Speaker 01

  Yeah. A throw?

• 13:40Andrew Manganelli?

Did you miss the, the one where they came up and went, oh, you're David and Andrew's co-host?

• 13:44Speaker 01

  No, I missed that one.

• 13:45Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 13:45Speaker 01

  That was great. Sick, yeah.

• 13:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 13:48Speaker 01

So that, that was awesome to, to hear from a lot of you guys. We got some fun questions. So anyway, you guys were there for a little bit after the, the couple of days following our podcast. What did you guys see?

• 13:57Andrew Manganelli?

Well, before we left and they stayed there, right across from our hotel was this parking lot with like a Tesla Experience. And as we were.

• 14:05Speaker 01

I believe it's called an activation.

• 14:07Andrew Manganelli?

All of Austin was an activation. Literally every, the coffee shop we went to had ads on our cups.

• 14:12Speaker 01

  Everything is an activation.

• 14:13David Imel?

This is what happened to Coachella too, man.

• 14:15Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, it's probably great. The local businesses probably made a ton of money, which is probably super helpful.

• 14:20David Imel?

Yeah. So glad that a little company like Starbucks can just like roll it, you know?

• 14:26Andrew Manganelli?

But so, uh, yeah, the Tesla activation was right across from our hotel. So we came back and there was this flatbed truck with a big glass box and a CyberCap inside of it.

• 14:36Speaker 01

Yeah, I guess they had a bunch of Teslas in this parking lot. They had Model 3s, the new Model Y, the Cybertruck, and then they had one trailer in the corner pulled by a matte black Cybertruck that was like clear that had a, a single.

• 14:49Andrew Manganelli?

It was pulled by a Cybertruck? I thought it was just a flatbed. Oh, wow. I missed that.

• 14:52Speaker 01

Yeah. See, there was a whole activation. You missed this.

• 14:56David Imel?

So they had the little cyber cab in there. Someone actually on Twitter pointed out that that's the same clear trailer they used to bring around, I think, a Model Y when it first got unveiled.

• 15:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, really?

• 15:04David Imel?

And they had like the tape that they had like pulled the Model Y off, but you could still see the outline of the text that said Model Y.

• 15:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh.

• 15:10David Imel?

That's hilarious. Anyway, they're doing the clear trailer thing, and there's a robo taxi sitting right there.

• 15:14Andrew Manganelli?

There's a robo taxi. We, well, so that's, it was there. Then we saw later on the corner, there was another one parked, not driving, but parked. And then there was other videos of one driving that had a steering wheel.

• 15:25David Imel?

It reminded me that it had scissor doors.

• 15:27Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 15:28David Imel?

  I forgot.

• 15:29Andrew Manganelli?

  You mentioned that every time.

• 15:31David Imel?

Yeah, every time I see it, I'm like, why?

• 15:32Andrew Manganelli?

You're just like programmed into it.

• 15:33David Imel?

Like, why did they do that?

• 15:34Speaker 01

Yeah, they open sort of like a ladybug, you know?

• 15:36Andrew Manganelli?

That's a good way of putting it.

• 15:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 15:38Speaker 04

Wait, so we saw one on the street that was like doing its thing.

• 15:42Andrew Manganelli?

It wasn't doing its thing. It had a steering wheel.

• 15:45Speaker 04

Well, yeah, but I mean, it wasn't, what I was gonna say was, I'm confused because that one was silver gray, I think, and the one we saw in the trailer was gold.

• 15:52Speaker 03

You saw, you saw a robo taxi.

• 15:53David Imel?

  That was a robo taxi.

• 15:54Speaker 03

A robo taxi is a modified Model 3.

• 15:57Andrew Manganelli?

  Model Y.

• 15:58Speaker 03

  Or what?

• 15:58Speaker 01

A robo taxi is an unmodified Model Y that is a person in the passenger seat and nobody in the driver's seat that is operating kind of the same way like Waymo is in Austin, where you can grab a ride from the app.

• 16:10Speaker 03

The cyber taxi is a fake car made of stickers.

• 16:14Andrew Manganelli?

  With gold.

• 16:15David Imel?

  I did, there, someone was-

• 16:17Speaker 03

Those are stickers. That's the, oh my god.

• 16:19David Imel?

Someone was driving one of them, like, very slowly at like 15 miles an hour along the road. Someone did drive-

• 16:28Speaker 03

  A cyber cab?

• 16:29David Imel?

  Yeah, cyber cab.

• 16:29Speaker 03

And it had a steering wheel?

• 16:30Andrew Manganelli?

  It had a steering wheel.

• 16:30David Imel?

Yes, that's the steering wheel. But it has, it has no side mirrors, which is legal, so they were going at like 15 miles an hour and very slowly.

• 16:39Speaker 04

So when people say that they were driving around Austin-

• 16:42Andrew Manganelli?

  In a robo taxi.

• 16:43Speaker 04

  In a robo taxi.

• 16:44David Imel?

A robo taxi is the Model Y.

• 16:46Speaker 01

The robo taxi service is a ride hailing service of Model Y's.

• 16:50Andrew Manganelli?

It's like Waymo and Model Y's.

• 16:51Speaker 04

  So this cyber cab-

• 16:53Speaker 01

  The cyber cab is the-

• 16:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Isn't on the road yet.

• 16:55Speaker 01

Not on the road yet. It's the two-door, gold painted, no steering wheel thing. That was the thing we saw.

• 17:01Speaker 04

I thought that people at the live show were saying they saw that driving around, and that's why I was like, oh!

• 17:05David Imel?

No, I did see it driving around.

• 17:07Speaker 04

  Oh, you did?

• 17:07David Imel?

I did. It was driving around, very slowly.

• 17:09Speaker 04

  Oh, okay.

• 17:10Andrew Manganelli?

  With a steering wheel.

• 17:10David Imel?

  With a steering wheel.

• 17:11Andrew Manganelli?

It's not supposed to have a steering wheel.

• 17:12David Imel?

And it didn't have rearview mirrors, or side mirrors, side mirrors. Yeah, so.

• 17:17Speaker 03

Allegedly, when the Cybercab comes out, it will be sold to human beings in 2026 with no steering wheel pedals or mirrors because.

• 17:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Two-seater, yeah, wireless charging.

• 17:27Speaker 03

  Oh, yeah.

• 17:28Andrew Manganelli?

So, two things we noticed is, one, I thought it was to make this confusing and maybe helps in the confusingness of Adam right there is it said robotaxi on the side, but that's because that's the service. It did light up, which was kind of cool. There's this really funny video of, I guess, them turning it off at night where like 10 Tesla employees are like wrapped around the front trunk to not be able to see the person reaching in to turn it off because I guess that's where the switch is. They do the same thing in soccer when they're about to shoot a goal. Really? Stand in a line in front of the person. The, so at the event, it has gold arrow wheel hubcap and then it was painted gold. This was like a big sticker that looked pretty terrible.

• 18:10Speaker 01

Yeah, there's a whole, there's actually a long list of things that people have pointed out have changed between the initial unveiling at the event, because we all got to walk up to that one and sit in it and take videos of it, to now what they're parading around in this trailer, and I'm sure more changes will happen. This always, this happened with the Cybertruck, this happens every time. But yeah, one of those changes was instead of paint on the sidewall of the tire to make it look like a low-profile tire, now they had essentially glued a hubcap that is larger than the wheel itself and extends onto the tire to, again, make it look like a low-profile tire, but they glued it to the side of the tire. I don't even think you can, like, you need some amount of brake cooling, and I don't think you can have a completely opaque thing that just seals your brake into the wheel.

• 18:52Speaker 03

  It was a vinyl sticker.

• 18:53Speaker 01

Yeah, it was definitely like. Yeah, because this thing isn't good driving.

• 18:56Speaker 03

  Right.

• 18:57Speaker 01

So it just has to sit there and look like a Cybercab, robotaxi, whatever. But yeah, the idea is to make it look really futuristic, and part of this futuristic aesthetic is like a big wheel, like you see picture Tron and you're like, oh, big wheel, small car, very futuristic. So they're trying to make it look like a low-profile tire and a big wheel, and this is the new way they're doing it is with a sticker.

• 19:15Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I did see someone post a video of them. I guess they didn't really know what it was, but asking one of the Tesla employees, this was the one that was on the corner at the hotel, not in the truck, but not driving. And the way that the Tesla employee described it was, uh, this vehicle is going into production about next month or so, potentially available for consumers sometime next year.

• 19:37Speaker 01

  So now they're saying 2027?

• 19:39Andrew Manganelli?

Well, this is, it's hard because this is a singular random employee, or maybe not even Tesla employee. They may have just been hired for the activation there. I have no idea, but as a person with a Tesla shirt answering questions about the Cybercab to someone who came up and asked.

• 19:52Speaker 01

Doesn't he know about the bet? Doesn't that guy know about the bet?

• 19:55Andrew Manganelli?

I wish you went and talked to him.

• 19:56Speaker 01

I really kind of wanted to. We drove by it and I was like, what if I walked up and just asked, like, when is this thing coming out? What they have said to me?

• 20:02Andrew Manganelli?

  I have no idea.

• 20:03Speaker 01

We have no idea. I guess we'll never know. Well, in other car news, uh, Ellis and I got to ride around in the Rivian R2. This one's almost a real car. It's so close.

• 20:13Andrew Manganelli?

  It's, yeah.

• 20:14Speaker 01

It's like a month from now, a couple of weeks from now?

• 20:16Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 20:17Speaker 01

  Right around the corner.

• 20:17Andrew Manganelli?

Well, cute, what is it? Spring.

• 20:20Speaker 01

  Spring.

• 20:21Andrew Manganelli?

  June 20th.

• 20:22Speaker 01

  It's so.

• 20:23Andrew Manganelli?

  June 21st.

• 20:23Speaker 01

It's technically just as real as the Cybercab right now, but it's so close.

• 20:27Andrew Manganelli?

  It's very close.

• 20:27Speaker 01

  It's so close.

• 20:28David Imel?

Yeah. We did ride in it. They had a, um, activation.

• 20:34David Imel?

They had an activation there where you would, you know, go up a really steep hill and then there was these like, there were these micro hills where you, the car would rotate back and forth really quickly so that you could like, see how the suspension was sort of like keeping you upright and you felt like you were going to roll over, but then you didn't roll over. It's pretty nice. We rode in it. It felt extremely similar to an R1 in terms of like build quality and stuff like that. Um, you've used it. So like, you know, you have experience too.

• 20:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 20:59David Imel?

That was fun. We had to wait in that line for like an hour because like so many people wanted to be in that, uh, like try it out.

• 21:05Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Do you know, is that only the performance that has that active suspension?

• 21:09Speaker 01

They all have, uh, just active dampers. There's no air suspension in any of them.

• 21:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, this.

• 21:14Speaker 01

It's still a good suspension for what it is.

• 21:17Andrew Manganelli?

Performance has semi-active suspension and I don't see that on others.

• 21:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Of trims.

• 21:23Speaker 03

Then it must have been the, the performances. So one of the things that was really cool about the Rivian ride along event that I wish all companies would do is that the people driving these cars.

• 21:32David Imel?

  The engineers.

• 21:32Speaker 03

Were like engineers and developers for the cars.

• 21:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:36Speaker 03

I don't know. I feel like it typically, it's really hard to talk to someone who had a technical input on a product. From, from, uh, maybe, maybe not for you, Marquez.

• 21:46David Imel?

  No, this is usually true.

• 21:47Speaker 03

Yeah. It's like, it's like generally these companies are like, no, no, no. You're going to talk to the communications people. The engineers will stay locked away in their.

• 21:54David Imel?

There are, there's a spectrum of companies and how guilty they are of this. I think maybe near the top of the list is like Apple. You only talk to PR people and marketing people.

• 22:03Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:04David Imel?

But on the other side of the spectrum, there are companies who it's like, especially a lot of auto companies, you will sit in the car with the chassis engineer. Or the people who actually helped make that product happen.

• 22:13Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 22:13David Imel?

Which is much more interesting to me.

• 22:15Speaker 03

Yeah. Anyway, I, I was very like, tell me everything the car knows about what's going on right now. And I got a pretty detailed explanation.

• 22:24David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:24Speaker 03

I mean, as detailed as you could be, the whole ride along is like 45 seconds. So I was like.

• 22:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:29Andrew Manganelli?

But point 2X speed. Um, it does say unique to performance trim. Is it active suspension? Active suspension.

• 22:34David Imel?

They, uh, they had all these cool plaid colors. Um, I say plaid because it's like stripes of color that kind of like overlay over each other. Kind of like a weave, like a basket weave.

• 22:44Speaker 03

  More vinyl stickers.

• 22:46David Imel?

Um, probably. Uh, but everyone was like, oh, these colors are so cool. And then they were like, but we're not going to sell them. They're selling, um, yeah, they're selling a few colors. They're selling gray, um, gray, gray.

• 22:59Speaker 03

  Purple gray.

• 23:00David Imel?

  Purple gray and gray.

• 23:02Speaker 03

  And gray.

• 23:03David Imel?

But there's also a green gray and a gray green.

• 23:06Speaker 03

  Hmm.

• 23:07David Imel?

Yeah. Yeah. Somebody had tweeted like, oh, these colors are so awesome. Like, why aren't you going to sell these? And Rivian responded like, we love the color selection that we chose. And I was like.

• 23:17Andrew Manganelli?

  That's the PR person.

• 23:18David Imel?

Yeah. Gray, gray and gray. Uh, I think that they just like, are if you want a fun color, you have to pay way more money. I think that's the move.

• 23:25Speaker 03

I'm not super in the off-roading world, but deliveries on the like show cars that it's out by, to me, looked like they were. Inspired by the classic Baja trucks, if you know any of those liveries, just for audio listeners who are trying to imagine.

• 23:38Speaker 01

Like who let the dogs out kind of thing?

• 23:40Speaker 03

No, like the drink at Taco Bell.

• 23:42Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 23:42Speaker 03

No, no, like Baja, the, the famous off-road truck race.

• 23:45Speaker 01

  Right. Yeah.

• 23:46Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:47Speaker 01

I wonder about this sometimes. Like I almost want to start a formal petition like Rivian, please sell us the wrapped R2. It looks so cool. Remember the camouflage wrap from our initial autofocus video, which was like R2-D2 themed?

• 23:59Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 23:59Speaker 01

A lot of people were like, this looks sick. I would want one of these. And I just wonder what, you know, companies tend not to do wraps. Maybe they're worried about like vinyl getting damaged or like people having a weird experience versus paint. I don't know, but I wish they would sell us these looks. They look cool.

• 24:13David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:14Speaker 01

  Anyway.

• 24:15David Imel?

Yeah. I mean, I guess you could go get a wrap separately and people will and et cetera, but those do cost a lot of money.

• 24:21David Imel?

So that was fun. Uh, there was also the also bike, which is the Rivian sort of spinoff company.

• 24:27Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah.

• 24:27David Imel?

We saw a guy writing it and he told us that we could write it and then we forgot to do it. We were gonna do it and then we forgot, but apparently they're pretty cool. They look pretty interesting. They look kind of like a combination between like a nothing phone and like an Apple product.

• 24:42Speaker 03

It, it looks like a, like a weird, like future bike from Meet the Robinsons.

• 24:46David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:47Speaker 03

Someone attached a like teenage engineering box.

• 24:50Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. The box like by the pedals feels very teenage engineer.

• 24:53David Imel?

Yeah. And I know that, uh, Quinn Snazzy Labs has done a video, maybe just a short or something about it. He got to go test it out for a while. A few people have seemed pretty cool. They're very expensive, but they're, they're pretty neat.

• 25:06David Imel?

So that was neat. And then Ellis and I made a, uh, made a little hike out to the outskirts of Austin to see the Brain Audio Store.

• 25:14Speaker 03

I don't know if it's fair to call it, it's just South Congress.

• 25:16David Imel?

Well, I've never been there, so I'm gonna call it.

• 25:20Speaker 01

  Upstate New York.

• 25:22David Imel?

  It's Westchester.

• 25:25Speaker 03

We went, we, we, we walked about three quarters of a mile south of.

• 25:31Speaker 01

The outskirts, Ellis. It was hot.

• 25:33Speaker 03

  It was so hot.

• 25:33Speaker 01

  It was hot.

• 25:34Speaker 03

Yeah, we met up with Brain Audio at the Brain Store. Brain Audio being that company that we made a video, studio video of a little bit ago, that people got really mad at the way we titled it, but I don't care.

• 25:45Speaker 01

  The speaker broke physically?

• 25:47Speaker 03

And they are working on new product that they just unveiled at CES. We weren't at CES, we didn't get to see it there. It's called the Party Pro.

• 25:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:54Speaker 03

And it has the updated version of their RAD driver, which is like this subwoofer mechanism that they've developed. Yeah, and.

• 26:02Speaker 01

It's got the power of nine Brain Xs.

• 26:05Speaker 03

Something like that. It's crazy. It's just like, it's crazy. This, so this new speaker is like bigger than Brain. It's like, we, there's a Brain X sitting right off camera over here.

• 26:15Speaker 01

  Lunchbox sized.

• 26:16Speaker 03

Yeah, this is, this is like, Brain X is like lunchbox sized. Party Pro is like.

• 26:21Speaker 01

  Big.

• 26:22Speaker 03

  Like large microwave sized.

• 26:23Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 26:24Speaker 03

  Okay.

• 26:24Speaker 01

  Good way to describe it.

• 26:26Speaker 03

And it's just one of those things where you look at it and you go, I can imagine how much bass that box will produce. And then you go, oh my, oh my goodness.

• 26:34Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's pretty crazy.

• 26:35Speaker 03

It's crazy. And there's a bunch of really cool features that I'm super excited for. And it just seems like we're closer and closer to this RAD technology being in like actual commercial speakers.

• 26:48Speaker 01

Just crossed my mind, as you're, as you're talking about the title that we use for the Brain video and the meta of reviewing tech on YouTube, you're saying we get the technical information from the manufacturer, which then gets obfuscated into more marketing, everyday terminology to get given to us, which then we break down into technical information to understand better. And then re-turn back into.

• 27:13Speaker 03

I can, I can explain it.

• 27:15Speaker 01

  We're all just birds.

• 27:17Speaker 03

I, I went to a talk, see, so if you don't know what South by Southwest is, it's like this everything, Andrew joked. It's an activation. It's the connections convention. And so I went to this talk that was this, the chief marketing officers of Under Armour, the Tecova cowboy boot brand, and then like a major tech company, tech conglomerate, that I don't want to say who it was for the sake of the story. And. And I went up to the tech guy afterwards and I was like, you know, you don't know this, but you and I have been locked in this intricate one-way dance for quite some time. And he was like, what do you mean? And I explained that to him. I was like, you know, you're the marketing officer for this guy. Like, your engineering department gives your marketing department this like technical sheet

• 28:02Speaker 03

that then your marketing department has to turn into stuff that the average person can understand. Press release. Like Mark has said earlier, a lot of companies do not give us direct access to it, information. So then we have to take the press releases and like re-reverse technicalize it to give it to you guys who actually do care about that technical information. And so I explained it. I was like, I was like, I've been doing this dance with you and your marketing department for years now, man. Yeah.

• 28:28Speaker 04

How much is this speaker gonna cost?

• 28:29Speaker 03

  Oh, no, I don't know.

• 28:31Speaker 04

But, because at the risk of sounding like a [BLEEP] hole, who cares?

• 28:35Speaker 03

It's gonna be, it sounds, I mean, the way you're describing it, it sounds like it's not.

• 28:39Speaker 04

It sounds like it's gonna be so expensive that no one's gonna be able to buy it.

• 28:41Speaker 03

No. There's two things I want to say that. The first is, I'm gonna steal what David was about to say, because it relates to this, which is, we cover a lot of like flagship, huge tech. The cool part about Brain and working with Brain and talking with these guys is that they are the epitome of like two guys with a garage who are like actually changing the game and making something really, really cool and unique. And even though it's, again, it's like, this is marketed as a party speaker, you know? I don't think either, any of us are the kind of people that like pull up to the beach with like a big giant speaker. I mean, they even said they didn't really want to make a party speaker, but it's kind of the natural progression of what they wanted to do. Yeah. And like, on the topic, on the topic of speakers, I don't know how much it's gonna cost. You know, the Brain X is sort of the most expensive, one of the most expensive

• 29:26Speaker 03

Bluetooth speakers in its category. The cool thing, one of the, a lot of the cool things about the new Party Pro is, and this is inside-baseball speaker knowledge, but there's like this integrated chassis, and then the top has these like latch points that connect directly to the chassis. So you can stack them on top of each other and form the speaker arrangement called a line array, which is a really common venue system. And then also you can add hanging points. Now you can like hang these from the ceiling. So they made a party speaker, but it's a party speaker that, if you have the right hardware, can actually function as an integrated sound system in a small venue. And then they also added like full I/O and this proprietary Ethernet-based communication system. And so like,

• 30:11Speaker 03

If you're in the market for like a party speaker, this will be one of the more, my guess is one of the more expensive things in the thing. It's going to have amazing battery life because of the rad technology and how efficient it is. And it's going to get way louder relative to the size and weight of its competitors. And then also, it's the kind of thing where if you're already a dork and can sort of look ahead and see these technical opportunities, like you could actually build a pretty cool room with these. Or they have the ability to turn off the tweeters and the woofers and just have the sub be the only actuator. So if you have a small home studio.

• 30:45Speaker 04

At the risk of sounding like, who cares?

• 30:48Andrew Manganelli?

I think I literally forgot you were talking.

• 30:54Speaker 04

The party barking up the wrong tree with their market. These are not consumer speakers.

• 30:58Speaker 01

  Yeah, the Bluetooth.

• 30:59Speaker 04

Nothing you said sounds consumer to me.

• 31:00Andrew Manganelli?

Sorry, I was just saying, I got distracted by something.

• 31:03Speaker 03

Fine, fine, fine. I guess, I guess we only care about the fascist Pro Max freak.

• 31:08Speaker 04

Most people only care about the cheapest speaker. That's it. Not how it sounds.

• 31:13Speaker 01

The Bluetooth speaker market is like one of those crabs where eventually you just end up at party speaker. And the further you go from party speaker, the smaller your market is. And so you're probably going out in price or in size or whatever. So like something like this, a $500 Bluetooth speaker is way outside.

• 31:30Speaker 03

  I think like the 600.

• 31:31Speaker 01

Yeah, same with like the DVA Phantom that we show, which is like obviously an insane, that's like a $2,000 speaker. And it's more of the novelty of like, look at how insane this thing is. And it's capable of some crazy things. And also they're everywhere in Newark Airport. And this is another one of those things where it's like, hey, this one's also insane for these other reasons. And if you're a super audio nerd, you know, you can turn it into just a subwoofer and then have a setup of a bunch of these you can make into a room. But at the end of the day, most, most people by volume are like, how loud?

• 32:01Speaker 03

And the answer is louder than literally everything else.

• 32:04Andrew Manganelli?

I think the benefit there is similar to like the DVLAs in the Newark Airport of like, if you're a business that needs very few small form speakers that can fill a room, it seems kind of perfect for that. That, that price point doesn't matter as much.

• 32:18David Imel?

That was practically our South by Southwest.

• 32:21Speaker 03

We got a bunch of, yeah, we got a bunch of barbecue.

• 32:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Terry blacks.

• 32:23Speaker 03

David and I, a bunch of tacos.

• 32:24David Imel?

I went to the Blue Sky X Onion Party.

• 32:28Andrew Manganelli?

There was Blue Sky, Twitter, and The Onion.

• 32:31Speaker 03

  Twitter?

• 32:32Andrew Manganelli?

  X.

• 32:35David Imel?

  Got him.

• 32:35Speaker 03

I went to a party that was themed-

• 32:36Andrew Manganelli?

Pun master but doesn't see him coming when he's doing it. Sorry.

• 32:40Speaker 03

I went to a party that was Kentucky Derby themed.

• 32:43Andrew Manganelli?

  And New Year's Eve themed.

• 32:44David Imel?

I heard some of the weirdest. I heard somebody went to a TurboTax party. I'm like, what are you guys doing? What is happening at South by?

• 32:50Speaker 03

  The Don Tolliver TurboTax concert.

• 32:52David Imel?

Yeah. Some South by stuff. That was our Austin experience. Yeah. Now we will move on to what this podcast is usually about. Oh, also, yeah, we just saw Tom Scott's coming back, which is exciting. He's a friend, he's been on the podcast before. He took a two-year hiatus from YouTube and he's coming back and I'm very excited to watch everything he makes again. Tom Scott and I have also been in an intricate dance that he didn't know about. He wears this red Fruit of the Loom shirt that my grandpa gave me when I was like five and that I wore to sleep every night for like 15 years. And then I saw Tom Scott wearing the same shirt and I was like, we are the same. So, we danced together. How did he get my shirt?

• 33:37David Imel?

How did he get my shirt? Anyway, he's back with a six-pack and I think we're gonna take a break now. We have actual content coming up, I promise.

• 33:49David Imel?

  I promise.

• 33:52David Imel?

  I promise. Trivia!

• 33:53Speaker 03

Guys, thank you so much for mentioning the Tom Scott story because my trivia question is about Tom Scott and it would have not really made a lot of sense. One of Tom Scott's most legendary videos is the one where he wrote that script and the title of the video auto-updates based on-

• 34:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 34:09Speaker 03

How many views it has. You're all familiar.

• 34:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 34:12Speaker 03

No one look it up? Because the question is-

• 34:14Andrew Manganelli?

  How many current?

• 34:16Speaker 03

Price is Right rules, what is the title of that video? And I'm going to hit refresh right before you guys answer the question to make sure we have the most up-to-date. Remember, this is Price is Right rules.

• 34:30David Imel?

  So, closest without going over.

• 34:31Speaker 03

Exactly. So, guessing one would be both dumb and genius.

• 34:35David Imel?

  Closest without-

• 34:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, interesting.

• 34:38David Imel?

  Guessing five would be-

• 34:39Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like that video spawns a bunch of other videos trying to like growth hack their way into like- This YouTube video isn't what you think it is, or like somehow it changes. Have you seen the influx of them recently? That's like, there are five YouTube videos in this video and it's, somebody makes five separate videos, but then like, posts it in five different screens in it. And then the audio tracks you swap between are five different audio tracks. So like in two minutes, the guy in the middle, if you click audio track one, is that guy talking? And then the guy like picture in picture in the side. It might be like the Japanese dub, the whatever.

• 35:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 35:18Andrew Manganelli?

But all they're doing to that.

• 35:19David Imel?

  But it's all English.

• 35:20Andrew Manganelli?

They're just uploading something else. So then like in the top left is a guy talking that the, the mouth doesn't match the first one. But when you click like Japanese dub, now that's. That's sick.

• 35:30David Imel?

If you watch all of them, you get like 500% retention.

• 35:34Speaker 01

I love that. That's, and that's, that's hilarious. And also that's specifically like, a very like of the times using the features. Like remember, okay, this is gonna make me sound old. Mr. Guitar Man, is that Ring Bell? You guys remember? Remember you used to do like, choose your own adventure with annotations?

• 35:51David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 35:51Speaker 01

So you'd watch the first minute of the video and then there'd be like the top half annotation or the bottom half annotation and you could pick one and it would take you to the next part. And it was a whole series of like a web of things to get you to end. That was, that was of the times.

• 36:04Speaker 03

Have you guys seen like the YouTube trumpets?

• 36:06Speaker 01

  The YouTube trumpets?

• 36:07Speaker 03

Where someone uploads a video that's just like every 30 seconds, it'll be like a different note on the trumpet. And then you can take the note on your keyboard.

• 36:14Speaker 01

  Oh, that's good.

• 36:15Speaker 03

Go doo doo doo doo doo.

• 36:16Speaker 01

That should be forever. That should, that should work today.

• 36:18David Imel?

I like people like utilizing the, the feature sets to make weird art.

• 36:22Speaker 01

Yeah, it's cool. Love it. All right. Well, tell us that trivia question, Ellis. Oh, you already did.

• 36:29David Imel?

We'll have to think of the number of views.

• 36:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:31David Imel?

  Closest to that going over.

• 36:32Speaker 01

Answers will be at the end, like usual. We'll be right back.

• 38:47Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. This is part two of the podcast, but this phone has three parts.

• 38:53David Imel?

  Hey.

• 38:53Speaker 01

  It's a Samsung Galaxy Trifold.

• 38:55David Imel?

  Damn, that was good.

• 38:56Speaker 01

Thank you. Thought about that one last night.

• 38:59David Imel?

Why is the Trifold coming up?

• 39:00Speaker 01

Okay, so we're talking about the Trifold because reportedly Samsung is discontinuing it.

• 39:06David Imel?

  Damn, that was fast.

• 39:06Speaker 01

  That was...

• 39:09David Imel?

It was really fast. I want to make that a sound, bud. It was really fast. Um, yeah, Samsung spokesperson has told Bloomberg that the Samsung Trifold will be getting one final restock today, March 17th, but after that, it will be gone. Uh, the decision reportedly comes as a result of high production costs, which made the Trifold nearly impossible to make a profit on. You could maybe speculate that RAM prices have a lot to do with that. Uh, the entire supply chain is just getting insane, and I imagine that Samsung was barely making a margin on this thing already. It seems that now they're not even selling that many. It's been reported that fewer than 6,000 units were sold domestically in Korea since it launched, and it launched in Korea before it launched here.

• 39:53Speaker 01

Korea was like the main place they were selling it.

• 39:55David Imel?

Correct. They did eventually launch in the United States in, I believe, late January or so. But yeah, it's, it was a short timeline, less than three months for the Trifold. So, uh, Samsung did say that they are going to trickle down the technology into future foldable devices, but it was not mentioned about whether or not they were going to make a Trifold again, which is kinda, I'm sure they will at some point, but you, you better buy it now before they're completely sold out if you really want it.

• 40:22Speaker 01

Yeah. Interesting. Thoughts on that? One thought is that you just said is the technology would trickle down to other folds. I don't know what tech from the Trifold is applicable to trickle down to the other fold, other than having one more screen. Uh, you've seen probably a bunch of videos now in your subbox. A lot of them were sponsored, but now the embargo is up, uh, of the Oppo Find N6, I believe it's called, which is their no-feel crease foldable.

• 40:45David Imel?

  No-feel crease?

• 40:45Speaker 01

No-feel crease. So you look at it and visually there's no crease, and you run your finger over it and you can't really feel a crease either. And you know, you, you get a fresh Fold 7 out the box and it looks pretty good, but you fold it a bunch of times and you start to see that crease form.

• 40:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:58Speaker 01

And this one is supposed to be rated for some thousands of folds and should never appear to have a crease that you can feel, which is really cool. That's a tech I'd want to, you know, trickle down to a bunch of other foldables. Uh, the Trifold to me was just, uh, Samsung going, hey, what if this works?

• 41:13David Imel?

  Hmm.

• 41:13Speaker 01

Let's try it. We're Samsung. And then, you know, it happened to, I'm punning today. But yeah, sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes people don't buy it and it's also $3,000.

• 41:21David Imel?

It was also really, really, really expensive, but I think the fact that it's not even selling that well in its like home country. Like Samsung is a lot of Korea, uh, so if it's not selling well there.

• 41:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 41:32David Imel?

  Yeah, they make everything.

• 41:33Speaker 01

That's like coming out with an electric car that doesn't sell well in California. You're like, well, we're cooked. You can't sell well here.

• 41:39David Imel?

It's like not selling very many avocados in California.

• 41:41Speaker 01

  That's, yeah, exactly.

• 41:43Andrew Manganelli?

The best part about this was they cooked with the, the subtitle for the Verge article and just said, it didn't try for very long. TRI, who's a Jess Weatherbed, kudos.

• 41:53David Imel?

Very nice. Damn. Yeah. So again, you want to get on on that for $3,000, you be my guest, but I think most reviews were like, it's cool, it's interesting and it's neat, but it's still kind of lacking. And, um, yeah, we'll see in the future.

• 42:06Andrew Manganelli?

Maybe Trifold 2 is just coming out soon.

• 42:09David Imel?

  I don't think that's gonna happen.

• 42:10Speaker 01

I will say Trifold is available, it's eligible still for a Smartphone Award 2026.

• 42:16David Imel?

  For best big phone?

• 42:17Speaker 01

It's, it's just, even though it only was three months of 2026.

• 42:21David Imel?

That is kind of sad because then the awards come out and then you can't buy it.

• 42:24Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 42:24Andrew Manganelli?

  Have we ever had?

• 42:26David Imel?

A discontinued phone win an award?

• 42:28Andrew Manganelli?

Like, yeah, like come out, get discontinued and win, win an award.

• 42:31David Imel?

Has anything else really been discontinued besides the Note 7?

• 42:34Speaker 01

Has the hydrogen get discontinued before it won the award?

• 42:36Andrew Manganelli?

Okay, the bust award doesn't count.

• 42:40David Imel?

  That was still available, right?

• 42:41Speaker 01

It might, when I gave it the award, maybe.

• 42:43Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, Essential got discontinued, but it was a while later.

• 42:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:48Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:48David Imel?

That would be truly unprecedented times we're living in.

• 42:53Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:53Andrew Manganelli?

  LG probably died mid.

• 42:56David Imel?

  Oh.

• 42:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Year.

• 42:57David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 42:57Andrew Manganelli?

So that probably means there was a phone that came out. I mean, the Wing probably came out within a year of it LG quitting.

• 43:03Speaker 01

  Oh, that's true.

• 43:03David Imel?

Yeah, but the Wing didn't win any.

• 43:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, yeah.

• 43:06David Imel?

  The Wing was crazy.

• 43:07Speaker 01

  The Wing was pretty crazy.

• 43:08Andrew Manganelli?

Should have won all the awards.

• 43:09David Imel?

Yeah. Well, speaking of phones that probably won't get discontinued.

• 43:13Speaker 01

Hmm, maybe. I actually had a different segue I was gonna throw to, because I have, okay. By the time we're watching this, our Nothing Phone 4A and 4A Pro reviews, or one review is out. I'm gonna actually hold it. I have the 4A Pro right here. This is the pink one. It's not the best looking version of this phone. I think the monocolored versions are better.

• 43:31David Imel?

  Pink allegedly.

• 43:33Speaker 01

I, you know, I reviewed the phones and I also have this theory, because we've talked about Nothing before about why they're not doing a flagship this year. They're not doing a, yeah, you can hold it. They're not doing a Nothing Phone 4. They're just doing a 4A.

• 43:45David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 43:46Speaker 01

  And a 4A Pro.

• 43:48David Imel?

  4A Pro Lite.

• 43:50Speaker 01

And it's, it's interesting, and I think, you know, you mentioned RAM prices. I think Nothing is in a really tough spot, whereas a smaller company, they don't get the best costs because their order sizes from suppliers are smaller. And in general, they, they probably spend more for all the same specs as the big, you know, flagship companies. They, at these conditions, can't really make a competitive flagship. Last time they tried was Nothing Phone 3, last year. Eight hundred bucks, kinda got flamed for it. They put a flagship chip in it, but it just wasn't, you know, a full-on flagship, especially the camera performance. What they do thrive at is really good mid-range phones. These are competitive, good, well-priced mid-range phones. The Nothing Phone 4A is 349 euros, 349 pounds. It's really good for that price.

• 44:35David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 44:35Speaker 01

Triple cameras for that price. iPhone can't say that. Pixel can't say that. Samsung might have a triple camera phone at that price, but it's like, that's nice. It's an OLED, it's 120 Hz, it's a Snapdragon 7S Gen 4. It's a good phone for 349. And then the 4A Pro that you're holding is 500 US dollars, and it's not as great of a deal, but it's still pretty good. So, yeah, the reviews are out. I'm curious, you know, now that you're holding one and looking at the 4A Pro, what do you think of?

• 45:04David Imel?

Yeah, I wanna boot it up real quick and just kinda see the, the stuff. Again, like you said, um, so it's metal, so no wireless charging. Yep. Metal phones are sick, but no wireless charging, it's sad.

• 45:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:14Andrew Manganelli?

I'm fine with that because like, if you give me no wireless charging and a glass back, then I'm mad. If you're gonna not give us wireless charging, then give me the premium. And then I'm okay with it.

• 45:24David Imel?

True, the 4A does not have wireless.

• 45:26Andrew Manganelli?

I will miss wireless charging, but I'm glad they at least gave you the premium other option.

• 45:30David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 45:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 45:32David Imel?

Yeah, I think that Nothing is still doing a pretty good job with the constraints that they had. Like you said, the $349 one is cooking like crazy. You know how on Twitter randomly some bot will like a tweet that you made from like 10 years ago?

• 45:44Speaker 01

  All the time.

• 45:45David Imel?

All the time. So yesterday a bot liked a tweet that I had made in a thread about the Pixel 4A when it first came out. And that phone was $349. And I really, obviously, Pixel 4A is one of my favorite Pixels they ever made. Hardware, plastic, very cheap. And I was sort of just talking about the software makes up for it, et cetera, et cetera. This is like, I mean, the Nothing phone 4A is sort of like the... It's a much better version of that. So it's got everything that the Pixel 4A had, but you know, it's more premium in many, many ways. So if you look like, you know, even if you add inflation into account, we're how many years, six years after the Pixel 4A and we still have this?

• 46:30David Imel?

Being able to buy something like that at $349 is still an incredible deal, especially in the universe we are currently living in with like RAM shortages and stuff.

• 46:38Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:39David Imel?

So, but like you said, it's going to come down to whether or not you actually want the extra stuff that comes with the Pro and if you're okay with the metal unibody versus the other designs.

• 46:49Speaker 01

Yeah, I just find the positioning fascinating.

• 46:53Andrew Manganelli?

I, yeah, I think it's good positioning. I think these phones are awesome at their price point. I don't love the pink on this as much because inside the camera bump, it doesn't match. Whereas the black one has like black interiors and the silver one has the white interiors. This basically has the silver interiors on the camera bump. They didn't send us the silver one, which I think is the best looking one.

• 47:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:15Andrew Manganelli?

It matches the best with the red accent and everything, which I'm bummed about. But there's a small example I wanted to throw in here of Ellis talking about how like technical versus marketing aspects and how that can kind of be confusing. And it made me realize like sometimes with these briefs or like press briefings and the briefs that they actually send us, it feels like we're translators at some point because we need to find, goes from technical to marketing jargon to us then trying to figure out the level of technical and jargon to use, but... On the 4A Pro with the glyph system, the interface, the LED interface.

• 47:50Speaker 01

  Glyph matrix.

• 47:51Andrew Manganelli?

The glyph matrix, thank you. They write it is like 50% bigger and twice as bright. So we are doing the script and I'm like going through it and making sure everything's correct and seeing what else we can add to it. And I go, oh, it's bigger. The easiest way to prove that it's bigger, other than showing it, is to find out how many LEDs are inside of it, because they made a big deal of it being like 137 mini LEDs in here. So I was like, cool, the old one must be less. And then I keep getting this, that the Nothing 3 has 489 micro LEDs, while this has 137 mini LEDs, but is bigger. So their way of saying this is, oh, this is physically bigger, but also way worse resolution.

• 48:34Andrew Manganelli?

But we're not gonna, we're not gonna say it has less pixels in it.

• 48:37Speaker 01

Yeah, they'll never say that in the press release.

• 48:39Andrew Manganelli?

Truthfully, I don't think it matters. I think it gets the point across in there. I don't think you need, because the resolution still looks terrible on the 489 pixel one.

• 48:47Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 48:47Andrew Manganelli?

But that's an example of those.

• 48:49Speaker 01

499 is still a very good price for a phone like this. I just have, I have beef with the higher they go up in the range, and I think that would have, it would have toppled with a Pro phone. Yeah. Or with a, like a flagship phone. It's like the 349, Nothing 4A is a great deal and a really good phone for the price. You're spending theoretically 150 more dollars for this Pro phone. All you're getting, honestly, is the aluminum build. Yeah. And the glyph matrix. You know, the screens are almost the same. They're a tiny bit bigger. The pixel density is almost the same, but the brightness is almost the same. The cameras are almost the same. The same chipset? The chipset goes from a Snapdragon 7S Gen 4 to a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The RAM is the same, the storage is the same. It's like almost the same phone. Yeah. Pro features, I'm like, oh, it's the Pro. Maybe there's some camera features,

• 49:33Speaker 01

or there's some Pro things that are enabled by the software. I think it's just HDR video on the Pro and 140x zoom instead of 70x zoom.

• 49:41Andrew Manganelli?

  World's first.

• 49:42Speaker 01

Which is just crap. So the 150 bucks up to the 4A Pro is like, now it's a decent value. If they tried to go, that was a shutter sound? Yeah.

• 49:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 49:52Speaker 01

If they tried to go all the way up, I think to a flagship 8, $900 phone, and put a Snapdragon 8S Gen 5 or whatever in there, and tried to go 12 gigs of RAM and all this other stuff, high-end storage, high-end screen, high-end cameras, they would be looking at their thinnest margins and their least competitive phone. And so they just didn't do it.

• 50:11Andrew Manganelli?

There is one thing. You get with the Foray Pro versus the Foray, which is the ability to purchase it in the United States. The Foray is not coming to the US.

• 50:20David Imel?

Which is too bad because it's a better deal.

• 50:25Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, I guess the other thing is just design.

• 50:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 50:27Andrew Manganelli?

You might like this design with the metal body better.

• 50:30David Imel?

It's definitely a little bit louder. And the silver looks really cool. Yeah.

• 50:33Andrew Manganelli?

  You think this is louder?

• 50:34David Imel?

  Yes.

• 50:35Andrew Manganelli?

I think this is less loud than the Foray. The Foray still has all of the like designs and everything going through it where this is like keeping it up into just this pill.

• 50:44David Imel?

  Bean or whatever.

• 50:45Andrew Manganelli?

This is the plateau. That's the bean. The bean's the camera.

• 50:48David Imel?

But I'm talking about the Foray.

• 50:49Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, yeah.

• 50:50David Imel?

The Foray is just one big bean.

• 50:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 50:52David Imel?

Yeah. I think that is more subtle overall. I understand like they've got the clear back and everything, but the bean itself, I think is more subtle. I think we should call it the pill, not the bean.

• 51:03Speaker 01

Speaking of weird marketing terms to use for tech products, did you guys know that the AirPods Max top headband is called the canopy?

• 51:12Andrew Manganelli?

What? That actually makes a lot of sense.

• 51:14David Imel?

No, call it the headband. The most Apple thing I have ever heard.

• 51:18Andrew Manganelli?

The canopy makes sense and I hate it so much.

• 51:20Speaker 01

I only know this because I only know this because they just came out with the AirPods Max 2.

• 51:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 51:25Speaker 01

  News of the week.

• 51:26David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 51:27Speaker 01

Very quietly announced with a press release in the Apple newsroom. It has an H2 chip in there and new amplifiers. And that's kind of all you need to know.

• 51:36Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, it doesn't even have a new canopy?

• 51:38Speaker 01

It's this, well, it's new colors, I guess. But physically on the outside, it's the same. There's no new on off switch. There's no new case. All of the normal AirPods Max things. Yeah, all the normal AirPods Max form factor stuff still there.

• 51:51David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 51:51Speaker 01

But new amplifiers and H2 chip, potentially better sound, but also one and a half times stronger active noise cancellation. And then a couple, you know, interesting computational features like studio quality mics allegedly.

• 52:06Andrew Manganelli?

  You should not.

• 52:07Speaker 01

Conversational awareness or voice isolation when you're on a phone call, stuff like that. That's what the chip is doing.

• 52:13David Imel?

Apple, if you can record an album using AirPods Max as the microphone, then it will be sold.

• 52:18Speaker 01

Again, Apple is in pure marketing land with these terms. But yes, the top of the AirPods Max is officially called the canopy. So if you ever want to refer to that top piece, that's what that is.

• 52:28Andrew Manganelli?

David, why would you give them that idea? They're going to release an album now.

• 52:32Speaker 01

  Good.

• 52:33David Imel?

That's a studio video. Studio quality, yeah.

• 52:36Speaker 01

It's funny because Apple does make some products that are genuinely like professionally used all the time. And they can go, hey, here's an album that was made and mixed on a MacBook Pro with their speakers. And you'd be like, that's crazy, but I guess someone could do that. But then there's like the studio quality microphones on the iMac and you're like, there are no studio has ever used these microphones.

• 52:56David Imel?

Studio quality is a stretch, is a stretch. I do, I do think you can kind of record, you could record a podcast with the MacBook microphones and it sounds okay.

• 53:03Speaker 01

Yep, yep. I think many people have.

• 53:06Andrew Manganelli?

  I mean.

• 53:07Speaker 01

  Not we wouldn't.

• 53:07Andrew Manganelli?

There's 10 billion podcasts out there. There's a chance it sounds better than quite a few of them.

• 53:12Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, yeah.

• 53:12David Imel?

Yeah, well, they, they sort of updated it with a lot of the things that the AirPods Pro 3 got. I think that's the reason that they wanted to do it because the AirPods Pro 3 were technically better in multiple ways. Like you're able to answer calls by nodding and reject them by shaking your head. They added that. They added the game mode that reduces the wireless latency if you want to use them for gaming. So they added that. They now have a camera remote feature on the, on the digital crown or the crown, where you can like press it and it will take a photo with your iPhone or your iPad.

• 53:42Speaker 01

That's what I was really waiting to upgrade for.

• 53:44David Imel?

I, I was just thinking like, this is for selfies generally. And then you have to be wearing AirPods Max in your selfie.

• 53:51Andrew Manganelli?

  That's, yeah.

• 53:52David Imel?

Which is exactly what Apple marketing wants.

• 53:54Andrew Manganelli?

The thing that's weird about that is like, I'm not mad that they added a feature. No. It doesn't take away. I can't get mad at it. But in order to use that. You generally would need a camera shutter remote for like a group photo. So that means you either are in the group photo.

• 54:08David Imel?

  With AirPods.

• 54:08Andrew Manganelli?

Holding your AirPods Max. Or you have it on while the rest of the people in your group don't. And then you're just like.

• 54:14David Imel?

This is just a big for Apple to like get more AirPods Max in photos.

• 54:18Speaker 01

I gotta see if you can do, use this feature while they're not on your head.

• 54:21David Imel?

That's a great question, because they, don't they just turn off if you don't have them on your head?

• 54:24Speaker 01

  Typically, they just stop.

• 54:26David Imel?

That would be so funny if you could only use them while they're on your head.

• 54:30Speaker 01

They don't, they don't turn off. There's no off button.

• 54:32Andrew Manganelli?

Even if you're holding them, that's weird. You're still holding a pair of AirPods.

• 54:35Speaker 01

Yeah, I would, I would hold them in my hand and like put them behind my back and then, and take a picture like this in the group. With the crown behind my back and I hit the button.

• 54:43Speaker 03

The, I forgot that they go to sleep mode and take them off your head. That makes the recording an album with them even funnier. Because you'd have to like stick your head.

• 54:52Andrew Manganelli?

In the face drum of the.

• 54:54Speaker 03

Like you're in a recording, you have to like literally put your head right next to the guitar amp.

• 54:58Speaker 01

  Oh, yeah, true, true.

• 54:59Andrew Manganelli?

This might be a studio parody.

• 55:00Speaker 01

That's basically what Vision Pro does when you're taking video with Vision Pro, you have to go. Yeah, someone's gotta do a like taking Apple ads literally. Yeah. Like, oh, this is a studio quality microphone? Okay. And just put their head up against the guitar. That would be really funny.

• 55:14David Imel?

There's now a personalized volume feature that automatically fine tunes volume based on your preferences over time. Which I believe means like it analyzes how loud you're listening to music on a like long period of time.

• 55:26Andrew Manganelli?

So it's just always gonna be maxed out.

• 55:28Speaker 03

  No.

• 55:28Speaker 01

You know why that's fine? Because there's no number associated with it.

• 55:31Speaker 03

No, that's not fine. That's not fine. That's like my worst nightmare.

• 55:35Speaker 01

Wait, Ellis, I just was, do you also hate the feat? I would love your thoughts on the feature of like, you know how some cars, when you get up to a certain speed, will automatically increase the music volume while you're driving? This feels like that, doesn't it?

• 55:48Speaker 03

You know, to me, that feature, I've always had a problem with not on a, uh, audio level, but on like a, that, it feels like it encourages you to drive like a maniac. Like you drive faster so the music gets louder. So you drive faster so the music.

• 56:02Andrew Manganelli?

Sorry, officer, the volume was just too low.

• 56:06Speaker 03

My, I, like, I want my headphone, I want to learn my headphones. I don't want my headphones to learn me. So that I can interpret everything coming out of headphones. Cause I would love to be able to use AirPod Max for work. Like, I would love it.

• 56:21Speaker 01

I think all of these features are designed for the opposite.

• 56:23Speaker 03

No, I know. They sound, I think they sound good enough to do a decent amount of professional audio work on. And the idea of having one headphone that I have like a listen mode and I know what things like music and podcasts sound like on it, and then I can go and work on them and like work as a reference. But they're such a black box as far as their processing that I would not be able to trust anything that comes out of them.

• 56:46Speaker 01

They should have a studio mode.

• 56:48Speaker 03

  Yes.

• 56:49Speaker 01

That's a free idea for Apple.

• 56:50Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 56:51Speaker 01

Because you know that there are people who are trying to use these for that exact application. And because of all this computing, it's not ideal for that. But if there's just a studio button.

• 57:01Speaker 04

  Wait, question.

• 57:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 57:02Speaker 04

If you used the USB-C adapter to 3.5 millimeter cable and plugged it in for the lossless quality, does that still have the personal?

• 57:12Speaker 03

You gotta, you gotta get your facts straight, bucko. Because the 3.5, the USB-C to 3.5 millimeter does not support lossless.

• 57:18Speaker 01

  It's only C to C, right?

• 57:19Speaker 03

Only C to C supports lossless.

• 57:20Speaker 01

  Yeah, yeah, C to C.

• 57:21Speaker 04

Okay, so if you use the C to C for whatever fuck reason,

• 57:26Speaker 04

does that, would that be the studio mode?

• 57:28Speaker 03

  No.

• 57:29Speaker 01

It would be a nice like trigger to give you the button.

• 57:32Speaker 04

Like, it's still that's the processing?

• 57:33Speaker 01

It's still doing all the, yeah.

• 57:35Speaker 03

Yeah, I think, I think, I think all the processing happens on the H2 chip, which, yeah.

• 57:40Speaker 01

Yeah. So that's a free idea for Jaws or whoever's watching the pod right now from Apple?

• 57:44Speaker 03

I was waiting to see how long it would take for someone to be like, and they support lossless.

• 57:49Speaker 01

It is funny that they waited till now to call it 2, because they released the updated AirPods Max with USB-C. And that technically added the like, lossless via USB-C, et cetera. And they changed the colors a little bit. And they changed the colors. Now they changed the chip and now it's 2. Yeah. I don't really know why that makes it 2.

• 58:07Speaker 04

On Wikipedia, that one's called Gen 1. It's still Gen 1 with USB-C.

• 58:12Speaker 01

So the first one with USB-C. AirPods Max, then AirPods Max with USB-C, and then now AirPods Max 2.

• 58:17Speaker 03

I'm, I'm excited for them. I know, I know we're not generally AirPods Max like lovers in this room, but I just think.

• 58:24Speaker 01

After you, uh, after your rant, I did, I did fly to South by with my AirPods Max instead of the Sonys.

• 58:30Speaker 03

  And?

• 58:30Speaker 01

  They sound phenomenal.

• 58:32Speaker 03

  Yeah, they're fantastic.

• 58:32Speaker 01

They sound phenomenal. They're awesome for flying. And I'm excited to hear what one and a half times stronger ANC sounds like.

• 58:38Speaker 03

  Me too.

• 58:39Speaker 01

But they didn't. Yeah, I wish I didn't have to take up my entire backpack.

• 58:44Andrew Manganelli?

I wish they were nice to use. It's like a crazy thing to say about a $500 pair of headphones. I just wish they did any of the things I wanted.

• 58:51David Imel?

They have made their 550. It is quite like crazy and kind of ironic that such a simple design has become so like iconic. Like I see them all over Brooklyn.

• 59:02Speaker 01

  They're pretty visually.

• 59:03David Imel?

People run with these things, which is insane to me because they're so heavy.

• 59:06Speaker 01

That's insane. They're not meant for that. Don't do that.

• 59:08Andrew Manganelli?

  The canopy can't support that.

• 59:10Speaker 01

That's why I say they're perfect for flying because it's perfect for flying because they weigh so much that you just lean your head back because you're on a plane and they have ANC. So awesome ANC and they're heavy and it doesn't matter and the canopy sits nicely on your head.

• 59:23Andrew Manganelli?

Apple really likes to make things that are really bad for your neck. The Vision Pro.

• 59:27Speaker 01

  Yeah, man.

• 59:28David Imel?

If you use these with the Vision Pro, you feel like.

• 59:30Speaker 01

  F1 drivers.

• 59:30David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 59:31Speaker 03

Have you guys seen the crazy like suite of third-party accessories that exist now for?

• 59:37Speaker 01

  For what?

• 59:37Speaker 03

In New York. Because David's right. Like I see AirPods Max all the time in New York. And so like people like there are all sorts of like clear slash opaque covers you can get and like sticker packs and like.

• 59:50Speaker 01

  The stickers I get.

• 59:51Speaker 03

I've seen people, you can get attachable cat ears for the canopy. Like people really like, like personalize them.

• 59:57Speaker 01

  Mm-hmm.

• 59:58Andrew Manganelli?

It's cool. Razors been all over that for you.

• 1:00:00Speaker 01

  Oh my god.

• 1:00:01David Imel?

The cat ears. I have seen that.

• 1:00:03Speaker 01

  They're still 550.

• 1:00:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:00:04Speaker 01

Still really expensive. You could buy this or you could buy MacBook Neo. Truly.

• 1:00:09Speaker 03

  Oh my god.

• 1:00:10Speaker 01

This was one of my favorite takes on Twitter was that seeing MacBook Neo and AirPods Max next to each other in the same store is truly like, those are the opposite approach to a product. Like MacBook Neo is going as low as possible in price to essentially maximize your chances of customer acquisition in like the masses. And then hopefully that gets the people into like buying Apple services and buying other Apple products. And that's the like Trojan horse of like, all right, no, I'm an Apple guy.

• 1:00:42Andrew Manganelli?

MacBook Neo is their YouTube shorts for discovery.

• 1:00:46Speaker 01

Yeah, it's a big funnel. But AirPods Max are the exact opposite. It's like these are, you're not going to get these as your first Apple product.

• 1:00:58Speaker 03

  I

• 1:00:58David Imel?

  Ever.

• 1:00:59Speaker 03

Wait, can I tell a recommending MacBook Neo story that happened yesterday?

• 1:01:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:01:02Speaker 03

Because I feel like, you know, it was like, I, someone was like, oh, you're, it was my, it was actually really funny. It was one of my doctors. We were in the middle of an appointment. She was like, by the way, like tech guy, like,

• 1:01:12David Imel?

  I've had this happen.

• 1:01:12Speaker 03

Should I get the Neo? And I was like, I don't know, like, probably, like, unless you're doing anything, you know, you, do you make TikToks on the side? Like doctor TikToks? And she was like, no, no, no. She's like, to be honest, I'm less worried about the computer doing stuff. And I'm more worried about like, switching to Mac from Windows, because I've just always been a Windows person. And I was like, you know, it's kind of cool switching to Mac. Like, if you have an iPhone, like, you'll get your texts on your computer and stuff. And she was like, you'll get your texts on your computer? And I was like, you need to Neo.

• 1:01:40David Imel?

  Oh, my God.

• 1:01:42Speaker 03

You, this is who it's, this is who it's.

• 1:01:43David Imel?

That's funny. That is funny. Well, there are new colors, as we mentioned. There's midnight, which is gray. There's starlight, which is gray. I'm just kidding. There's starlight, which is gold. There's orange, which is orange, but it's kind of burnt. There's purple, which is lilac. And there is blue, which is sky blue. My favorite part is that you can mix and match these Oh. ear cups. Like, the ear cups just pop off so easily, which is like, great for long. And now there are so many colors of AirPods Max ear cups that you could just go crazy.

• 1:02:11Speaker 01

They all work with each other. Yeah.

• 1:02:13David Imel?

Yeah. Now you can have $700 headphones.

• 1:02:17David Imel?

One more quick Apple story before we take it to break. You guys might not know this, the listeners of the podcast, unless you are a content creator. But Motion VFX, which is a plugin suite that basically sells really nice plugins for Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. We use extensively at the office. We use so many of these. Marques has been using the M Blueprint plugin since the beginning of time, since the dinosaurs.

• 1:02:43Speaker 03

  It's true.

• 1:02:44David Imel?

It's very true. And they got acquired by Apple yesterday, which we don't really know how to feel about, because Apple obviously makes Final Cut Pro. And this company makes very good plugins for DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. They owe Mark has a lot of money. We do have an MKBHD plugin.

• 1:03:03Speaker 01

I was gonna say, I've been using them for so long that I actually, they noticed that I've been using them for so long. And they were like, what if we collabed on an MKBHD plugin where we have like a bunch of your most used stuff? And then some other custom stuff. And we were like, oh yeah, that's awesome. So we made an MKBHD plugin

• 1:03:17David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:17Speaker 01

  in the Motion VFX suite.

• 1:03:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:21Speaker 01

Apple also acquired all of that. They get that too.

• 1:03:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, that's a weird idea.

• 1:03:25Speaker 01

Yeah. Yeah, Apple owns our plug-ins. Yeah, so I I'm assuming they're gonna do the Dark Sky thing where unfortunately, they're gonna stop supporting DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, right?

• 1:03:37David Imel?

I reached out to them and they didn't reply, so I don't know.

• 1:03:40Speaker 01

They will. The second they bought Dark Sky, it was no longer available on Android. And I just feel like that's the first thing they're gonna do is like make this plugin suite Apple only.

• 1:03:49David Imel?

I could see them still supporting the existing plugins, but not making new ones for.

• 1:03:56Andrew Manganelli?

Didn't they kill Dark Sky altogether too?

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

  Eventually, yes.

• 1:03:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:03:59Andrew Manganelli?

So do you think this is gonna be a Final Cut feature?

• 1:04:02David Imel?

Every single plugin just integrate into Final Cut.

• 1:04:04Speaker 01

Okay, here's how, yeah, this is how I this is how I forecast it going, and I'm bad at predicting the future, but this is the.

• 1:04:09David Imel?

  It's like the weather app.

• 1:04:09Speaker 01

Yeah, well, this is how I think it will go based on how past things have gone. Number one, they buy it. So number two, now they pull support for DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, and it's just available for Final Cut. And then eventually in some year and a half down the road, version of Final Cut will start to see stuff from Motion VFX built into Final Cut Pro, and then they eventually just sunset Motion VFX, and then it is what it is.

• 1:04:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, CI.

• 1:04:33Speaker 01

All the plugins that I've been buying for years will eventually, kind of like my Dark Side subscription, just be wasted money. And ideally, a lot of that stuff gets pulled in and becomes a reason for people to use Final Cut, because that's what Apple wants.

• 1:04:46Andrew Manganelli?

That's ideally for Final Cut users, not for everyone else.

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's ideal for Apple.

• 1:04:50Speaker 04

I don't know if they're gonna pull it into Final Cut. I feel like they're just gonna make it its own separate thing in the Creator Studio.

• 1:04:56Speaker 01

  Oh, that's a good take.

• 1:04:57Speaker 04

  Subscribe to the Creator Apps.

• 1:04:59Speaker 01

  That's a good take.

• 1:04:59David Imel?

That'd be crazy. That'd be insane value.

• 1:05:02Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:02David Imel?

I mean, each of those plugins are like, stop.

• 1:05:05Speaker 01

Yeah, well, each of those plugins are like $80.

• 1:05:08David Imel?

They're not cheap. There's a lot of. And they come like, when you buy one plugin, it comes with a ton of different plugins inside of it.

• 1:05:14Speaker 04

  And not for nothing.

• 1:05:15David Imel?

  But they're like $80.

• 1:05:16Speaker 04

But that, like, the Motion VFX plugins have like the YouTuber industry, like, kind of locked in.

• 1:05:22Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:05:22Speaker 04

Yeah. Unless you wanna start building your own stuff, or like if you know After Effects, if you have a Michael who's just amazing at graphics.

• 1:05:28David Imel?

There's also Motion Array, but Motion Array is not good. Like, their stuff has never been that good.

• 1:05:32Speaker 01

Yeah, Motion, Motion is just not good.

• 1:05:34David Imel?

  Apple Motion is terrible, yes.

• 1:05:36Speaker 01

Yeah, I I use the MGBHD plugins all the time.

• 1:05:39David Imel?

I mean, there's Pix, like, there's Pixelmater, you know, like, they bought Pixelmater and it's still a dedicated app. That got put into the education bundle, right?

• 1:05:47Speaker 04

  Yeah, that's into bundle.

• 1:05:48David Imel?

  Creative bundle.

• 1:05:49Speaker 04

The creator one or the creator one?

• 1:05:51Speaker 01

  Creative.

• 1:05:51Speaker 04

I mean, educated one? Oh my God, I can't speak. Education one?

• 1:05:55Speaker 01

  The creator.

• 1:05:56David Imel?

  The creator studio.

• 1:05:57Speaker 01

  That's the one, yeah.

• 1:05:57Andrew Manganelli?

Pixel Mitter was already just a

• 1:06:00Speaker 01

  Mac.

• 1:06:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Mac app.

• 1:06:01Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:02Andrew Manganelli?

So this is weirder because now we're potentially losing, like Dark Sky, losing the other platforms, which sucks, but um.

• 1:06:08Speaker 01

  We're just speculating though.

• 1:06:09Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, the funniest thing kind of about this is Marques tweets about Final Cut crashing all the time and Apple loves to be like, "We tried to recreate all these things and we're just seeing no problems." Little do they know, Motion VFX and Final Cut

• 1:06:22Speaker 01

  Hate each other.

• 1:06:23Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Seems to hate each other a lot. Like, it works great. We still love Motion VFX. But the majority of the time Final Cut crashes is like a plugin.

• 1:06:31Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:06:32Andrew Manganelli?

Like right when the play it gets there.

• 1:06:33Speaker 03

It's like when your dad marries your bully's mom and now you guys are step brothers.

• 1:06:38Andrew Manganelli?

But like, I feel like every time you tweet about that, someone from Apple's like, "What's going on? What's going on?" And now they're gonna buy it and start using it and be like, "Oh my God, people work like this."

• 1:06:48Speaker 01

  They're gonna, they're gonna learn.

• 1:06:49Andrew Manganelli?

This does crash all the time.

• 1:06:50Speaker 01

They're gonna learn real quick. Yeah, I think most of, probably most of my bugs for the last couple of years I've used Final Cut are not actually a Final Cut bug. They are a plugin with Final Cut. I shoot red. There's the red plugin. That plugin is, has caused many crashes.

• 1:07:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:07:06Speaker 01

There's the Motion VFX plugins. Those have caused many crashes. So over the years, every time I'll have like a really frustrating edit with Final Cut because it starts crashing over and over and I tweet about it, the Final Cut team reaches out and they're like, "What's going on with Final Cut?" And I'll send them the logs and they're like, "Yeah, maybe disable that plugin and see if it still happens and then it's fine."

• 1:07:24David Imel?

It's like when, using Windows because your, your Nvidia display driver crashes on your HP Omen laptop powered by Asus RAM.

• 1:07:32Andrew Manganelli?

You've got such a good segue, there's just unfortunately a trivia break in between.

• 1:07:36Speaker 01

  Oh, so hold that thought.

• 1:07:39Speaker 01

  Let's do trivia.

• 1:07:40Speaker 04

That was good though, that was good. Okay, question number two. So, Apple's High Speed Event announced such classics as MagSafe and HomePod Mini.

• 1:07:51Speaker 01

  Dang.

• 1:07:52Speaker 04

  What year was that event?

• 1:07:55Speaker 04

MagSafe and HomePod Mini. Are we doing Delta or Prices Right? This one, I think, let's do Delta. Let's do Delta.

• 1:08:06David Imel?

  United.

• 1:08:08Andrew Manganelli?

Do you know what I found the other day? Not totally related to this, but kind of really? We have that one butcher's block. And do you remember when the original HomePods used to stain wood when you left it on it for too long? We still have this butcher's block that just has a white circle on it because we left a HomePod on it for like 24 hours, not even that long. The like, the rubberized bottom just straight up stained wood.

• 1:08:30David Imel?

That's a, that's a, how did they not even test this?

• 1:08:32Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:33David Imel?

Yeah. All right. We'll take it to break and come back.

• 1:08:44Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Assign them work directly or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who,

• 1:10:31David Imel?

All right, welcome back. Another thing that happened this week was Nvidia's annual GTC conference in San Francisco. They sometimes reveal new graphics cards. They sometimes, actually all the time, reveal new AI. This year, they revealed new AI, as usual. So there is a thing that Nvidia has been doing for quite a few years now called DLSS. It's Deep Learning Super Sampling, back when AI was called Deep Learning. They have their new version, which is DLSS 5, which is the thing that has been getting the most chatter in the last couple of days. And the reason for this is because what DLSS usually does is it sort of up scales content that doesn't actually have to be rendered by the graphics card.

• 1:11:14David Imel?

It's like AI models that do upscaling. This year, they kind of took it to the next, I don't know if you want to say next level or if like a whole nother level entirely, because basically what this is doing is it is looking at the pixels and then it's generating texture maps that are anchored to the scene's content to make it look high resolution while not taking more processing power. The reason people are making memes about this is because it's basically doing like generative texture mapping to a lot of the stuff. And a lot of the resulting images kind of just look like they, it's almost this uncanny valley thing where they, they almost look like real people, but it's like that, it's that close off that it feels awkward.

• 1:11:58David Imel?

And the sharpening and the, the contrast are just way up on everything. All the jackets look like really, really contrasty and sharpened.

• 1:12:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Clarity slider.

• 1:12:08David Imel?

The clarity slider is so high up.

• 1:12:11Speaker 03

It's like this, this, the spiritual clarity slider. Cause I just feel like a lot of them are like, well, a lot of them, it's like, it's like, this is an old person, so let's make them look as old as possible.

• 1:12:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:24David Imel?

Yeah, I'm looking at, I'm watching the side by side video right now and each time they do the side by side, every little bit of micro, it's literally like throwing the clarity slider up, like every bit of micro texture turns into like a very visible texture. And so if you have a person that has a little bit of wrinkles.

• 1:12:40Speaker 01

  The Hogwarts legacy one?

• 1:12:42David Imel?

  Adds a lot of wrinkles.

• 1:12:43Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:43Speaker 04

It also was a little annoying because it kind of like reminded me a little bit of HDR almost where some of the stuff, the shadows just get completely pulled up.

• 1:12:52Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:52Speaker 04

It's like they just get rid of shadows and they add detail, but it's like that didn't need to be there. Like, why do I need to see the background characters?

• 1:12:58Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:59Speaker 04

  T-shirt, you know?

• 1:13:00David Imel?

Yeah. This is also getting a lot of flack because they showed some demos with like Resident Evil, which they always like to use Resident Evil for their demos. And a lot of people were saying that the DLSS 5 off image was like not even what it looks like in game. It's actually way higher quality than the off image that they showed. So people were speculating that they down quality, like made the quality lower just so it could look like a bigger difference. So there was some drama around that. The biggest question mark as with most AI features just becomes like, if you are letting the graphics card use deep learning to create textures for you, how much of that gets taken away from the original artists?

• 1:13:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:13:41David Imel?

That's like the question. And Nvidia says like it's different in that when it generates these textures and stuff, they get rooted to the actual model. So it's not like it's generating like the scenes dynamically and changing everything dynamically. But, and there are some sliders that the, the developers are going to be able to use for how much shading they want on certain things, how much like light they want on certain things, the way that the texture is going to look. But yeah, just one of those kind of like moral quandaries where everyone's a little bit weirded out by this.

• 1:14:13Speaker 01

I have maybe a stupid question.

• 1:14:15David Imel?

  That's okay.

• 1:14:15Speaker 01

I guess if the idea is the, this technology and these models are individually on your GPU analyzing the scene and upscaling, not upscaling, but like doing the improvement to quality.

• 1:14:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:27Speaker 01

Does that mean that theoretically everyone could look at the same exact map or have the same exact thing they're doing in a game, but it could look slightly different? I don't know. That is something that I will have to investigate. Um, yeah.

• 1:14:41David Imel?

  It's possible.

• 1:14:42Andrew Manganelli?

  I mean, you're

• 1:14:43David Imel?

  Because it's generative.

• 1:14:44Andrew Manganelli?

And it's, but it's taking the exact, oh yeah, I guess it's generative.

• 1:14:47David Imel?

Like they have, they said that the developer has some sliders, but I don't know.

• 1:14:50Andrew Manganelli?

  But it shouldn't there be

• 1:14:51David Imel?

Control over the actual text, resulting textures.

• 1:14:54Andrew Manganelli?

The developer would send the game out to everyone, so everyone should have the exact same game. So it should be

• 1:14:59David Imel?

  Same source.

• 1:15:00Andrew Manganelli?

You'd think you would be taking the same source material and doing it exactly the same. But I guess.

• 1:15:04David Imel?

A lot of generative stuff is random.

• 1:15:06Speaker 03

Yeah, it's based on like noise, which will have a different C. But also remember a few weeks ago, I was like, yo, how does DLSS work? This, this blows my mind. And then a bunch of people emailed me and I, I still don't understand.

• 1:15:17Andrew Manganelli?

It's, yeah. I feel like Nvidia has this weird thing where wherever they release something really good, the way I find out is by a bunch of memes on, online. It's like, that's how I know something huge in Nvidia just happened.

• 1:15:28David Imel?

  Yeah, that's actually valid, same.

• 1:15:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:31Speaker 03

They, they need to do that because if Nvidia drops something that isn't the greatest thing in the world, the entire US economy crashes.

• 1:15:38David Imel?

  That's also true.

• 1:15:39Andrew Manganelli?

  The bubble will die.

• 1:15:40Speaker 03

  Yeah.

• 1:15:40David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:15:41Speaker 03

  And then.

• 1:15:41Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh my god.

• 1:15:42David Imel?

Yeah, there was a big rumor that at this event, they were going to launch their own ARM-based consumer PC chips, the N1 and the N1X. That did not come out at this conference yet. It could also drop at the very last minute because it's still going on. It probably won't though. And that would be very interesting because then they would be competing with Snapdragon and Intel and all these things. But Nvidia, as they are invested in many companies that are also heavily invested in Intel. So that's kind of like a weird, weird little collaboration there. Anyways, these will be available on RTX 50 series GPUs in the fall. And I guess we'll be able to see how either terrible or good it actually is once that happens.

• 1:16:24David Imel?

Speaking of gaming really quickly, there is this new split mouse thing that starts as a regular mouse. Actually, I could have used this this weekend because Ellis and I had a four hour delay at the airport and I wanted to play Dota and didn't have a mouse. And we walked all around the airport for like an hour and I found one mouse that's probably 30 years old and it was $30 and I did not buy it. And I used my trackpad and it was a horrible experience playing Dota 2. Uh, anyway, this mouse looks like a regular kind of travel mouse. Mouse and then you can split it in half and then it's like these switch style game pads. Is this real? Oh, it's pre-order. It's a.

• 1:16:59Andrew Manganelli?

It's Kickstarter, I think. It's called the Pixel Paw. It's if you, for audio listeners, if you imagine just a black, a regular black mouse, two buttons, you'll notice there's no scroll wheel because that split between the buttons follows the entire length of the mouse. Because that's where it literally just snaps in half. And now you have a full game console split like joystick controllers. There's no scroll wheel because it wouldn't make sense. So.

• 1:17:24David Imel?

  That's really annoying.

• 1:17:25Andrew Manganelli?

Left side, you have your joystick and D-pad. Right side, you have A, B, X, Y and another.

• 1:17:30David Imel?

Sparkle emoji button? What does that do? AI button?

• 1:17:34Andrew Manganelli?

It's on both of them. This is, you know, it's Bluetooth and dongle support, 72 hours of battery life, 1000 hertz polling rate. I can't believe this thing. Well, it's not really it. So whatever. This has a thousand hertz polling rate, but the Logitech MX Master 4 does not. Multi-device pairing. What's funny is the render of this looks awesome, but then the videos they actually post, the texture of the mouse looks very 3D printed. So I'm not quite sure how far along they are. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but.

• 1:18:04David Imel?

This imagery makes me really nervous.

• 1:18:05Andrew Manganelli?

The imagery kind of makes me nervous.

• 1:18:07David Imel?

  Out for me.

• 1:18:07Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. The, it's a really cool design. I don't, it doesn't look like the most comfortable mouse in the world. It has these really big like pieces on the back where the back of your palm, almost wrist would.

• 1:18:18David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:18Andrew Manganelli?

Sit and I don't know if that feels nice or not.

• 1:18:21David Imel?

I am annoyed by the lack of scroll wheel. That's pretty annoying.

• 1:18:24Andrew Manganelli?

No scroll wheel kind of feels like a deal breaker because whether you're just productivity or playing games, scroll wheel almost always does something.

• 1:18:31David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:31Andrew Manganelli?

Really important to what you're doing.

• 1:18:33David Imel?

  Totally.

• 1:18:34Andrew Manganelli?

So that kind of sticks, but it could, you know, it's Bluetooth and has a dongle, like connect to a bunch of different things and just be a straight up controller, which is kind of neat.

• 1:18:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:42Andrew Manganelli?

Maybe if you're using Steam Deck as like, uh, like bringing a Steam Deck around, it might be kind of cool for different types of games that work better with a mouse or a controller.

• 1:18:51David Imel?

Yeah. And if you could pair this to a switch two, it'd also make a lot of sense.

• 1:18:54Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:18:55David Imel?

  Tend to switch two.

• 1:18:56Andrew Manganelli?

But real quick, since we're talking about mice, I got a new mouse recently that I think is kind of neat. So I'll talk about it as fast as possible.

• 1:19:03David Imel?

  What's his name?

• 1:19:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Herbert.

• 1:19:06David Imel?

  Stuart. Little.

• 1:19:08Andrew Manganelli?

He's a little boy. Um, his name is Ponage.

• 1:19:13Andrew Manganelli?

This is a company where I'm not, I do not love their name, but I do like a lot of their products.

• 1:19:19Speaker 01

I can see the target demographic.

• 1:19:20Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, exactly. This is very obviously a gaming mouse. They do make also one of my favorite Hall Effect keyboards. But this is the Sim 3. They make a bunch of mice and what they do really cool is they're like ultra customizable. I brought it here. Essentially what this is, is it's a gaming mouse that has kind of all the specs you would ever want. Up to 8,000 hertz polling rate, 200 hours of battery life, 50 grams without holes. Kind of the ideal mouse, but the problem with a mouse is no matter how good all the specs are. It comes down to feel and it's really hard to tell how a mouse feels by the internet. Sometimes you just have to buy a couple of them to see. This is super customizable with almost no tools. You can just pop

• 1:20:06Andrew Manganelli?

the back off and have different colors and sizes of where your palm raises. So it can like pump up more, it can go down more.

• 1:20:15Andrew Manganelli?

They're also, each button can really easily just pop right off. So now you can do different colors. You can have different size indents in each mouse button without them, different sizes.

• 1:20:26Speaker 01

  See the body?

• 1:20:26Andrew Manganelli?

Yes. But doesn't it have Joy-Cons inside? No, but it does have with a little tool. This is the only thing you need a tool for. This is like a mechanical keyboard switch tool is you can actually take out the switches for each button, for each mouse click and there are different types of.

• 1:20:46Speaker 01

Dude, I'm so mad. I'm so mad.

• 1:20:48Andrew Manganelli?

  At what?

• 1:20:49Speaker 01

  I'll tell you.

• 1:20:50Andrew Manganelli?

There are different types of optical and mechanical switches that you can then put in there, just like pop them in, but they all have. That's crazy.

• 1:20:57Speaker 01

  Can I ask something?

• 1:20:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:20:58Speaker 01

What has been the general reception to this idea online?

• 1:21:02Andrew Manganelli?

I'm not that deep in the gaming mouse category anymore. I think they're, they're a pretty popular company. Some of the, a lot of the pros use them. I think still places like Razer kind of beats out a lot of big ones, Razer and Zowie.

• 1:21:16Speaker 01

So I have beef with this.

• 1:21:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, what's your beef?

• 1:21:19Speaker 01

Back about 10, 12, 15 years ago, when I was growing up, I had this mouse called the Cyborg Rat Mouse.

• 1:21:27Andrew Manganelli?

  Was it from Mad Cat?

• 1:21:28Speaker 01

Yeah, from Mad Cat. And it was a fully modular adjustable. I got made fun of for that relentlessly. It's the same thing. Look at it! It's the same thing. Have you seen that thing? It's like, "Look, I have big hands. I can't use a regular sized mouse." This mouse, I get to customize it to fit my hand. Oh, I get to move it.

• 1:21:44Andrew Manganelli?

  We've recovered Marquez's past trauma.

• 1:21:46Speaker 01

I get to put weights in it or take the weights out of it. The same idea. I didn't even need special tools. It was all built in. And I had this customizable mouse that was perfect for me. And everyone hated it, and I got hate for it. And then I retired it, and now this idea is suddenly, "Oh, you can customize your mouse." "Would you look at that? That's so nice. I want to customize my mouse." And I'm like, "Well, you guys don't know about the Mad Cat's Rat."

• 1:22:09Andrew Manganelli?

The Mad Cat's Rat is the Cybertruck of gaming.

• 1:22:12Speaker 01

  See?

• 1:22:12Andrew Manganelli?

This thing looks like dog water.

• 1:22:14Speaker 01

See, I guess it gets hate, but it's the OG for this.

• 1:22:16David Imel?

We have also normalized insane looking PC peripherals over the last 20 years. I think at that point in time, everything looked really, really basic, and then eventually it got better.

• 1:22:25Speaker 01

It was called the Rat because it was better than a mouse. It was bigger.

• 1:22:29Andrew Manganelli?

I never made that connection. The problem, if you don't know what this, the Cyborg Rat is, is imagine a mouse where like all the corners had like a dial that could move it like up and down or side to side and make it wider or longer or...

• 1:22:44Speaker 01

  Yeah, wider the...

• 1:22:45Andrew Manganelli?

  It's not...

• 1:22:45Speaker 01

  You could change the angle.

• 1:22:47Andrew Manganelli?

This mouse looks like it weighs seven pounds.

• 1:22:49Speaker 01

You could take all the weight out of it. It would be lighter than a normal mouse. Or put all the weights in it. It would be smooth and heavy.

• 1:22:53Andrew Manganelli?

I bet it still weighs more than this wireless one with 200 hours of battery life.

• 1:22:56Speaker 01

But could you change the weight, though?

• 1:22:59Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. Everyone right now in the gaming sphere wants light. It's like 50, 50 to 80 grams is like...

• 1:23:05David Imel?

I will find, I will find out the weight for you of this mouse because I'm sure it's...

• 1:23:10Andrew Manganelli?

But lots of different, right now, there's only black, white, red, but the SIM 2 had like a million different colors. So two, two things I think are cool about this. Like I said before, it's all about feel. It's kind of like, uh, truly wireless earbuds, right? Like you might buy a pair that you think are great, but they don't fit in your ears great. So with this, you, when you buy it, it comes with all three different backs and the two different buttons. So you can kind of make it fit your hand better. Yeah. Um, and it has all the specs you would want. Then if you're also someone like me who switches a keyboard out all the time or a desk mat, there will be different colors to, so now your mouse can match the different colors of the desk that you're setting up.

• 1:23:47Speaker 01

What's the value in raising or lowering the optical sensor?

• 1:23:50Andrew Manganelli?

I don't know. My guess is like, depending on how you lift off, maybe having it more forward facing or more, or not forward facing, but more towards the front or more towards the back is better. Uh,

• 1:24:01Speaker 01

My hot take is if you need to adjust these things, you're just bad at video games.

• 1:24:05Andrew Manganelli?

Hmm. Yeah. Might not be wrong. A lot of pro players that will say a million different things of like, oh, I'm trying claw grip out this time and now I'm hitting everything better, which I think is kind of

• 1:24:16Speaker 01

  Snake oil.

• 1:24:17Andrew Manganelli?

A little, or like the, the pros doing it and you definitely don't need to, I was wondering why this wasn't clicking. It's because I don't think the, but, um,

• 1:24:24Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:24:25Andrew Manganelli?

The switch isn't it. But yeah. All right. I don't want to sound like an ad too much, but I thought it was neat.

• 1:24:30Speaker 01

You can still buy a Cyborg Rat 7.

• 1:24:32Andrew Manganelli?

If you love it so much, buy it.

• 1:24:34Speaker 01

I'm just saying. When you marry a

• 1:24:35Andrew Manganelli?

  Come on.

• 1:24:35Speaker 01

  It's an option.

• 1:24:36Andrew Manganelli?

  Get it.

• 1:24:36Speaker 01

It's an option. My video is from January 31st,

• 1:24:38Andrew Manganelli?

Make a short on it. Make a short on it.

• 1:24:40Speaker 01

2012. The short would pay for itself. It's 14 years old.

• 1:24:45Speaker 01

Good times. Well, I think that's all we have for this week. We are recording a day early this week, uh, because of scheduling conflicts. And so if anything major happens tomorrow or Thursday, I'm sorry.

• 1:24:56Andrew Manganelli?

That's also why I'm wearing green and no one else is because it's St. Patrick's

• 1:24:59Speaker 01

  Is it actually?

• 1:25:00Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 1:25:01Speaker 03

  What, what the actual hell?

• 1:25:02Speaker 01

  Green bagel.

• 1:25:03Speaker 03

  I'm literally wearing green.

• 1:25:05Speaker 01

All of you didn't realize it was St. Patrick's Day and wore green by accident?

• 1:25:09Speaker 03

50% of people in the room are wearing green.

• 1:25:11Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I'm more upset at these two.

• 1:25:13Speaker 01

I mean, this is green, gray.

• 1:25:15Andrew Manganelli?

David's laptop is green. Okay. But also I said it and everyone went, what? It is?

• 1:25:18Speaker 01

There's a lot of green in here, actually.

• 1:25:19Andrew Manganelli?

No one knew it was St. Patrick's.

• 1:25:21Speaker 01

I literally pulled out of my driveway and I was like, ah, crap, I forgot to wear green. And I get here and everyone's wearing green and, and then Andrew goes, oh, St. Patrick's Day. And they all go, what? That's today? Like you're all wearing green by accident? That's insane. You guys.

• 1:25:33Andrew Manganelli?

Anyway. I'm sorry. Thank you for the green. Yeah. I feel like wearing green and blue is directly.

• 1:25:39David Imel?

  Contrasting.

• 1:25:40Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, or it's just like, blue is the antithesis of green.

• 1:25:43David Imel?

  He's the ocean.

• 1:25:44Speaker 03

  I don't think that's true.

• 1:25:44David Imel?

  He's the ocean.

• 1:25:45Speaker 01

They're right next to each other in the rainbow.

• 1:25:47David Imel?

Yeah, blue and green together is like, one of the most sought after colors ever. It's seafoam.

• 1:25:51Speaker 03

  Just ask Miles Davis.

• 1:25:53David Imel?

  That's right. Kinda blue.

• 1:25:55Speaker 01

  Deep cut.

• 1:25:55Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't get that.

• 1:25:56Speaker 03

No, it was even deeper than that. There's a song on that album called "Blue and Green."

• 1:25:59David Imel?

  Oh, on Kinda Blue?

• 1:26:01Andrew Manganelli?

I'm more of a green and blue guy.

• 1:26:03David Imel?

You know what has no color?

• 1:26:05Andrew Manganelli?

It's trivia. No, trivia is blue. Have you ever seen the lights behind you?

• 1:26:08David Imel?

They're kind of green a little, if you look at them.

• 1:26:10Andrew Manganelli?

A little blue and green, actually.

• 1:26:12David Imel?

  Trivia After Dark.

• 1:26:12Speaker 04

  What is blue?

• 1:26:14Speaker 03

Guys, I have refreshed the video.

• 1:26:17David Imel?

  Okay, I need...

• 1:26:18Speaker 03

What is the title? And we're doing Jeopardy! rules, so you have to write the full title of the video.

• 1:26:23David Imel?

  Wow.

• 1:26:24Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, hold on. Jeopardy! rules would be you have to write "what is?" and then the full title of the video.

• 1:26:28Speaker 03

No, you're right, you're right. We're doing Ellis, Ellis, we're doing Jele- Jele- we're doing Ellis's Je- we're doing Jelesperdy? Rules. What is the title of the Tom Scott video as of me refreshing it 35 seconds ago? Price is Right rules.

• 1:26:49Andrew Manganelli?

I went super specific, so if I'm off by like, five over, I'm gonna be so mad.

• 1:26:53David Imel?

I think I'm way off. I think it's a million over this, but I went under on purpose.

• 1:26:57Speaker 03

Okay, who wants to go first? All of you flipped your boards and said, no, okay, someone read first.

• 1:27:02David Imel?

  Holy moly.

• 1:27:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, you go first, Marquez.

• 1:27:05Speaker 01

My title is, "This video has 12,022,202 views."

• 1:27:10Speaker 03

  Excellent guess.

• 1:27:12Andrew Manganelli?

Mine is, "This video has 17,653,147 views."

• 1:27:17Speaker 03

  Excellent guess.

• 1:27:18David Imel?

Mine is, "This video has 58 million views."

• 1:27:22Speaker 03

Objectively a better guess than the other two. This video has 74 million, 958,941.

• 1:27:31David Imel?

  That is so much money!

• 1:27:32Speaker 03

  Views, meeting David and Mel.

• 1:27:34Speaker 01

  74 million.

• 1:27:35David Imel?

You rolling in it, my guy. Same. I heard something like, they, they fixed the bug that allows you to do this, but they just let him still have the bug.

• 1:27:42Andrew Manganelli?

  As they should. That's awesome.

• 1:27:43David Imel?

  Yeah, as you do.

• 1:27:45Speaker 04

All right, after that, quick update on the score. Marquez with 17, Andrew with 19, David, after that correct answer, with 22. 22.

• 1:27:55David Imel?

Way into the... And I'm also rolling in it, Tom. You and me, we had red shirts together, we had, we rolling it together.

• 1:28:01Speaker 04

  Are you just Tom Scott?

• 1:28:02David Imel?

  That's right.

• 1:28:03Speaker 03

  David and Mel.

Have you ever seen them in the same room? We have been in the same room. We have many times.

• 1:28:09Speaker 03

But I will say David Amel, worst takes on waveform, best answers at trivia. That's right.

• 1:28:14Speaker 04

If you don't get that, go back and listen to the South by episode. All right, next question.

• 1:28:18Speaker 03

  I only lost by two.

• 1:28:19Speaker 04

Apple's high speed event announced such classics as MagSafe and HomePod Mini. What year was this event?

• 1:28:28Speaker 03

Did you guys see what got killed by Google this week? Oh, no. Keep? No. Oh, yeah. Google Fiber.

• 1:28:35Speaker 01

  I mean, Google Fiber, yeah.

• 1:28:36Speaker 03

Stop it. They were, they sold Google. They sold it to private equity. To it, so it's not Google Fiber anymore. It's gonna be. Private equity fiber.

• 1:28:43Andrew Manganelli?

Why is Google selling to private equity?

• 1:28:45Speaker 03

They're just, they're selling off their fiber business. Yeah. Cause they were like, oh, why are we doing this? Yeah. It's gonna be.

• 1:28:51Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, you wrote your sound already?

• 1:28:52Speaker 04

Three cities that have it in 10 blocks radius. All right, flip him and read, what do we got?

• 1:28:58Speaker 03

  I think it's probably.

• 1:29:00Speaker 04

  Wait.

• 1:29:02Speaker 04

Marquez is erasing his previous answer.

• 1:29:05Speaker 03

Oh, which one is it gonna be?

• 1:29:06Speaker 04

  What is it?

• 1:29:07Speaker 03

  It could be various.

• 1:29:08Speaker 04

  He's leaving, he's leaving.

• 1:29:09Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, that's why you made that.

• 1:29:10Speaker 03

  Right.

• 1:29:12Speaker 04

It looks like his answer is 2030?

• 1:29:15Speaker 03

  2020.

• 1:29:16Speaker 04

  2020.

• 1:29:16Speaker 03

  2020. Marquez and I both did 2020.

• 1:29:18Speaker 01

  That was sick.

• 1:29:19Speaker 04

  All right.

• 1:29:20Andrew Manganelli?

  I did 2020.

• 1:29:21Speaker 01

  That was.

• 1:29:21Speaker 04

David and Marquez get the point.

• 1:29:23Speaker 01

That was the coolest point anyone's ever gotten on waveform.

• 1:29:25Speaker 03

That was kind of, kind of a bar.

• 1:29:27Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 1:29:27Speaker 03

  That was pretty sick.

• 1:29:28Speaker 01

  Thank you.

• 1:29:28Andrew Manganelli?

  Counts the same.

• 1:29:29Speaker 01

Only video viewers will understand what just happened.

• 1:29:31Speaker 03

He erased his numbers until it said 2020.

• 1:29:35Speaker 01

But you have to be there.

• 1:29:38Speaker 04

  It's for the full effect.

• 1:29:39Speaker 03

It was, it was like in Harry Potter when the, the letters rearrange and it's like, I am Tom Riddle.

• 1:29:47Speaker 01

It's like those people who like paint something really complicating or like, what is this? And then they turn it upside down and it's this amazing portrait. It was almost that cool, I promise. Anyway.

• 1:29:58Speaker 01
