Why Bother with the Pixel 10a?

This week, the crew sits down to talk about everything that happened this week. It starts off with an update on the Ring camera situation and then goes right into the release of the Google Pixel 9a... I mean, 10a. After that, Marques, Andrew, and David spend some time speculating on what Apple is going to announce at the next event before going right into a tech version of the game of 2 truths and lie. Enjoy! Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools, threads, and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying blind. That's the problem that Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all these pieces together, from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more. So, nothing falls through the cracks. With Jira, you can actually share that context with the AI agents you already use, like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, assign them work directly, or connect your agents through MCP. Spend less time digging through endless links and DMs, less time chasing down what got decided and by who, and more time actually shipping. Learn more at jira.com.

  That's J-I-R-A dot com.

• 1:21Andrew Manganelli?

  You're what?

• 1:22Speaker 02

Sad at how the A-series phones.

• 1:23David Imel?

It's not like you'd ever buy it, anyway.

• 1:24Speaker 02

I used to have them. I used to be an A-series guy, not a main Pixel guy.

• 1:28David Imel?

I think base Pixel's got to make moves this year.

• 1:31Speaker 02

  Agreed. Hard agree.

• 1:33David Imel?

  In what way?

• 1:34Speaker 02

They're just tanking for a rebuild.

• 1:36Andrew Manganelli?

I saw that. They want a good trap.

• 1:43Speaker 01

Yo, what is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marquez.

• 1:48Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm Andrew.

• 1:49David Imel?

  And I'm David.

• 1:50Speaker 01

This week, we've got the Pixel 10A. Sorry, almost the same thing. 10A, a random March Apple event that has been announced. We'll have some thoughts, a Ring Doorbell update. You might have heard us crash out about that last week. And also, video on Apple Podcasts. And we're going to wrap it up with a game from Adam. Also, make sure you subscribe. Just before we get into it at all. We saw a comment on the last episode that said you could still hype us.

• 2:17Andrew Manganelli?

That was, they've been saying it since we hit 500,000, so for a couple of episodes.

• 2:22Speaker 01

We're either wrong about the requirements for being hyped, or you guys are like breaking YouTube.

• 2:28Andrew Manganelli?

YouTube has already forgotten about hyping.

• 2:30Speaker 01

Yeah, let's, let's make sure we're far enough clear past 500K that we're definitely past 500K. So make sure you subscribe if you haven't already. And if you do see a hype button, let me know, like tweet it at us.

• 2:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Press it first.

• 2:41Speaker 01

Yeah, press it and then screen record it and then send it to us.

• 2:44Andrew Manganelli?

Click it. I want to start off this episode with, I've been thinking of like a segment we can do to start.

• 2:50Speaker 01

  An apology to Xfinity?

• 2:52Andrew Manganelli?

That is never happening. I'll have a very brief update on that later, but I was thinking of an idea and I sent this all to you guys. So you can all brainstorm it for future episodes, but like a really fast five minute segment to start every episode off with. So my conclusion was a little segment we're going to try called, "Did they even test this?" Because people really liked our crash outs last week and kind of, they love when we complain about super random things that we don't, are so miniscule, but that frustrate us and there's so many.

• 3:24Speaker 01

  That's like my entire personality.

• 3:25Andrew Manganelli?

It is. This stemmed from me wanting to do a segment where all of us record every time a piece of tech does something we don't want it to do during the day. And I think it's way more than you would think, but this can be, we can slowly write them all down. But anyways, this is just going to be a very obvious thing that is wrong in a piece of tech that you have. And every week we'll do one, whoever wants to do it. I'm going to start mine with.

• 3:50Speaker 04

  I need my phone here.

• 3:52Andrew Manganelli?

In Slack, you know, Slack has plenty of issues by itself.

• 3:57Speaker 01

  The end.

• 3:58Andrew Manganelli?

Slack, it's just. Yeah, so if you go into Slack and go to write a message and use the emote button, either to react or to just put an emoji.

• 4:08Speaker 01

  There's an emoji button?

• 4:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Emoji button.

• 4:12Andrew Manganelli?

You'll see this list of icons that are the categories for what all of the different, because we're at hundreds and hundreds of emojis now, right? One of these icons is a heart. What do you think would be under the heart icon category?

• 4:24David Imel?

  Different types of hearts.

• 4:25Speaker 01

  Body parts.

• 4:27Andrew Manganelli?

It is actually the symbols category.

• 4:29David Imel?

  Oh, what?

• 4:29Andrew Manganelli?

  There's not a single heart.

• 4:31David Imel?

  What?

• 4:32Andrew Manganelli?

In the symbols category, which is.

• 4:34David Imel?

Why does heart denote a symbol? Well, it is a symbol, but.

• 4:38Andrew Manganelli?

  It is.

• 4:39David Imel?

It is. Not that kind of symbol.

• 4:41Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, it's when the heart is one of the most used reaction slash like emotes probably most people use.

• 4:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 4:50Andrew Manganelli?

You'd think they'd have that, right? But I've been tricked by this so many times where I go to like heart one of someone's posts in Slack and I get this. One thing we found that's kind of weird about it is I believe on like on desktop in my Slack, it's actually a peace symbol instead, which makes more sense.

• 5:08David Imel?

  That does make more sense.

• 5:09Andrew Manganelli?

So this may possibly be just a weird mobile thing they didn't fix.

• 5:15David Imel?

  Yeah, I'm checking on.

• 5:16Speaker 01

Is that on my phone as well? Yeah.

• 5:17Andrew Manganelli?

And then I go to press heart and I get ATM, biohazard sign, ying yang, arrows.

• 5:25David Imel?

Well, hopefully it's in your frequently used.

• 5:27Speaker 01

Hopefully it's in your frequently used.

• 5:28Andrew Manganelli?

Uh, it's not always, but anyways. I use our HDR emote way too much emoji. But yeah, so that is my, um, I want to keep it brief. That is my, did they even test this? The heart category with no hearts in it.

• 5:41Speaker 01

Yeah, we should Slack, if you're listening to this, maybe update that. I have a feeling there's a lot of things that we're going to find that the companies.

• 5:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Yes.

• 5:48Speaker 01

Kind of just forgot about. And then we reservice it and they go, oh yeah. And then they can just, they can just fix it.

• 5:55David Imel?

Yeah, but Salesforce owns Slack and I imagine all they think about is KPIs and not hearts.

• 6:00Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, and making a Mr. Beast commercial.

• 6:01Speaker 01

Yeah, but there's got to be someone from Slack who watches this podcast. There's like one person.

• 6:07David Imel?

  Probably.

• 6:08Speaker 01

  There's gotta be one person.

• 6:09David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 6:09Speaker 01

And they can, they can fire off an email. They, I'm sure they have an internal Slack at Slack, right? They can send it, send a quick Slack message.

• 6:16David Imel?

  They actually use Teams.

• 6:17Speaker 01

They use Teams. No. Well, they can find a way to, to, to hopefully maybe update that. We'll see if we can get it done.

• 6:23David Imel?

  Okay. That'd be good.

• 6:24Speaker 01

Next week, we'll find another thing.

• 6:26David Imel?

My did I even test this is, um, is metal watch bands. Does anyone, they always pull your hair.

• 6:32Andrew Manganelli?

This feels like a Seinfeld joke. What's the deal with metal watch bands?

• 6:36David Imel?

I mean, they've been, you know, classic for many years, but they always just pull your arm hairs. Maybe I'm just too hairy. I don't know.

• 6:43Speaker 01

  It's same, same here.

• 6:44Andrew Manganelli?

It wants you to remember you've got a sick watch on all the time.

• 6:47David Imel?

  That's true. Yeah. That's true.

• 6:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 6:49Andrew Manganelli?

There, we've, we solved that one.

• 6:51David Imel?

  We solved the.

• 6:52Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. So everyone, uh, put it in your notes app. Let's try and do one every week. I think it'll be fun.

• 6:58David Imel?

And I have like 12 just off the top of my head. Whenever you need one, just let me know.

• 7:02Andrew Manganelli?

Um, I'll also very quickly do a quick internet update. I did have my internet back by the time I got home on Wednesday. Don't clap. Please do not clap. They do not deserve a clap.

• 7:11Speaker 01

  Good job Comcast.

• 7:12Andrew Manganelli?

One funny thing that happened was I get a call on Friday. And it's a person saying, hey, this is blah, blah, blah with Xfinity. Did you know no one's home right now? And I said, I did know no one's home right now. Why are you at my house?

• 7:26Speaker 01

  It's my home.

• 7:26Andrew Manganelli?

And he was like, oh, there were some other wires hanging low and I got a, a thing to come and fix them. I was like, okay, no one told me that. And he said, well, they're technically telephone wires. And then that guy, super nice, the actual technician. He was like, they're not even our wires, but I think I have something that can probably move them up a little bit. So nothing actually accidentally touches it. He winds up doing the whole thing and giving me his personal cell phone number because he says, don't even try calling the 1-800 number and accomplishes nothing.

• 7:53Speaker 01

That is a, so shout out to that guy.

• 7:55Andrew Manganelli?

Exactly. The, the technicians who come are basically always actually knowledgeable and helpful.

• 8:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, they're poorly managed.

• 8:02Andrew Manganelli?

I just can't, you can't get in touch with them.

• 8:03Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 8:04Andrew Manganelli?

  So.

• 8:04Speaker 01

I do feel like I had a very similar experience. For some reason, like getting fiber installed, I don't remember what exactly happened, but I remember the actual in-person, technical person being way more helpful than anyone at the company trying to get them there.

• 8:18Andrew Manganelli?

One more funny story about this really fast is, um, I got an email. Last week, let me find it real fast, from Comcast Business Point of Contact, who tried to contact us to see if we needed any business needs from Comcast, which was possibly the worst timing ever after everything happened last week. So my little piece of help or revenge, I guess, is I just got to send him a nice email that said, there's zero chance after the horrible experience I had last week, and that we're not interested at working with Xfinity at all. That was my little solace of that whole experience.

• 8:57David Imel?

Hopefully some human read that instead of just AI filtering it away.

• 8:59Andrew Manganelli?

Well, he even says in his email, save my contact information. No need to wait on our 1-800 lines for an available remote agent call center.

• 9:08Speaker 02

Do you guys think this was in response to your rant?

• 9:11Andrew Manganelli?

No, because it's just a salesperson probably spamming people.

• 9:14Speaker 02

So you think it was just like coincidence that they did it the same week?

• 9:17Andrew Manganelli?

It was a really unfortunate coincidence.

• 9:19David Imel?

Damn. Well, internet is a monopoly. Other things that are not monopolies, but could be surveillance states. We have a little update to our Ring story from last week. So if you didn't listen to last week's episode, effectively, one of the Super Bowl commercials that came out was that Ring, the doorbell company owned by Amazon, had this new feature that they were going to turn on, where basically all the Rings would act as surveillance state cameras. And if you lost your dog, it would identify your dog and totally not people.

• 9:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Only your dog.

• 9:54David Imel?

We record this episode, we record this podcast on Wednesdays. On Thursday, Ring came out and basically was like, never mind, we're not. So they spent all that money on the Super Bowl ad. And then they were like, actually, we're not going to be working with Flock to do this anymore. They cited a bunch of reasons that probably were not the reasons. And really, the real reason was just that everyone was like canceling, and I'm subscribing, and getting rid of Ring, and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. But what's kind of ironic about this is like, the CEO of Ring, the founder of Ring, they... Mr. Ring? Mr. Ring himself, he has been very outspoken in this fact that like he actually wants there to be

• 10:36David Imel?

a surveillance state specifically because he is like laser focused on getting crime down to zero. And he's like, yeah, I mean, I, I eventually want all of these cameras to just continuously be recording everybody everywhere and going to police and we want to work with.

• 10:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Everyone everywhere all at once.

• 10:53David Imel?

Yeah. There, there are two schools of thought.

• 10:56Andrew Manganelli?

That's why he started the company.

• 10:58David Imel?

It is not untrue that crime goes down when people think that they are going to get caught. Obviously, right? So that, that is these two schools of thought that people have, and he's been very outspoken on the fact that he thinks that this is the way forward. Um, there's actually a good decoder episode with Neelai about this that, uh, he went on and did with him. And he's pretty straightforward on what he wants to do with this. But obviously all of that backlash, uh, made it so that they are deciding that they are not going to do this anymore. So.

• 11:25Andrew Manganelli?

I think they said like, it was taking longer than they expected and definitely had nothing to do with the immense backlash that came after them spending probably almost $10 million on a commercial.

• 11:36David Imel?

I'm just looking back. I mean, 10 million is almost nothing to them, but it is funny that like they called it search party. Yeah. There's just, ah, I'm looking back like, how did this make it all the way to the end? You know? Well. I have a, somebody had the idea and was like, here's a great idea. And everyone in, in marketing was like, yeah, yeah. And then not one single person went, hey, you know what this looks like? And, and it just went all the way to the end.

• 11:58Andrew Manganelli?

I, I was at a bakery this weekend and someone in our town lost their dog and I saw a couple go, look at the thing and say, oh, did you see that commercial in the Superbowl? Like, it can find lost dogs. That's pretty cool. And I was like.

• 12:11David Imel?

Hmm. No, that's, that's how they were hoping it would go. Yeah. That's exactly what they were picturing.

• 12:15Andrew Manganelli?

So there are people who do think that. It's just also really funny when you think about the numbers they put in the commercial of being like. A million people lose their pets a year.

• 12:24Speaker 01

One per day in the last year.

• 12:26Andrew Manganelli?

We find like 0.01% of dogs that get lost.

• 12:29Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 12:30Andrew Manganelli?

  And also watch everything.

• 12:31Speaker 01

Compassionate, uh, valid use case for something that could obviously be used for way worse things.

• 12:38David Imel?

And they're like, oh, it doesn't even have acts, it doesn't even have the ability to recognize faces. That's our separate feature called familiar faces, but they don't touch each other at all. Like, okay.

• 12:46Speaker 01

But we can recognize dogs like really well.

• 12:48David Imel?

But only dogs. We trained our model on a thousand dogs. We know.

• 12:53Andrew Manganelli?

They need to hire the, uh, marketing people at Apple who just make you terrified of not purchasing their products. That would work a little bit.

• 13:00Speaker 01

  Yeah, that like three minute.

• 13:01Andrew Manganelli?

  There's a bear.

• 13:03David Imel?

Yeah, the bear in the house video. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, another thing that happened where we thought it would be better, but it actually got worse. Is that the Google has announced that the Pixel 9 series is now going to have the ability to use AirDrop as well. So if you remember a few weeks ago, Google added compatibility for the Pixel 10 series to have AirDrop. They said, "We are excited to bring this to more Android phones soon." We were hoping that more Android phones would be more Android phones, not more Google phones. And so they're being added to, it's being added to all Pixel 9 devices except for the 9A. And, uh, when reached for a comment about this, Google just kinda gave their PR answer of,

• 13:47David Imel?

"We're excited to bring this to more Android phones in the future." I was really hoping they were just going to be using the Pixel 10 series as a test bed to make sure it worked on Android at all and had enough stability, et cetera, et cetera. But now they're just putting, pushing it to the 9, they still haven't done the 8, there's all these other phones. I don't really know what needs to be done here, but.

• 14:05Andrew Manganelli?

Can I, do you think they didn't do 9A because when 10A drops, 10A will have it? And they need to wait a couple of months for 9A to get it? So then 9A doesn't have it? Cause.

• 14:15David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 14:16Andrew Manganelli?

We'll talk about it in a minute, but not much has changed in the 10A.

• 14:19David Imel?

That is a Google thing to do, but doing that off the back of finally having an Apple feature is just. Very strange. They usually do that in Google Photos. They don't usually do that.

• 14:30Speaker 01

  Yeah, that's common.

• 14:31David Imel?

  With other features.

• 14:32Andrew Manganelli?

I'm a Blip stan. Sorry, before we get off airdrop, Blip rules.

• 14:36Speaker 01

Blip kinda hit the studio this year hard. And like, we have been an airdrop studio, as you've probably been familiar. Like, a lot of us are using Final Cut Pro and Macs in the studio, so we like pass files back and forth. And it's decently useful for, I'd say, anything up to about one gig. But as soon as I see like 890 megabytes and I need to send somebody a file, I'm like, do I really want to airdrop this? Like, it's gonna not work some of the times. DUI also, speaking of did you test this? Every time I go to open to share an airdrop, it starts populating and it goes three, six, 12, 15. A ton of devices and I go to click the one to airdrop to and then it slides over and it slides again to the next row. Every single time I miss and I send it to the wrong person and it's really annoying. So please test that, Apple.

• 15:20Speaker 01

Anyway, airdrop usually doesn't work after a large enough file size or it's extremely slow. And Rufus, I think, is the one who brought Blip to the studio. He's like, have you guys tried Blip? And we're like, what's that? And he's like, it's just an app that does the same exact thing, but it actually works.

• 15:33Andrew Manganelli?

  And cross-platform.

• 15:34Speaker 01

  And it's cross-platform and it's local, it's faster.

• 15:36Speaker 05

We gotta give Rufus a little more credit, because it was the kinda thing where he was like, let me blip this to you. We were like, dude, you want me to download a thing? Just so you... No, I'm not getting another...

• 15:44Speaker 01

Yeah, it's like, airdrop's right here, bro. It's right here, it works.

• 15:46David Imel?

And then everyone sends their first blip and it's like, whoa.

• 15:50Andrew Manganelli?

Do you know what? For the super niche content, tech content creators out there who might be reviewing Android phones and editing on a Mac, being able to send the files through Blip instead is life-changing.

• 16:03Speaker 01

It's huge. I'm gonna send this to all my creative friends.

• 16:05Andrew Manganelli?

  For the four people, yeah.

• 16:06Speaker 01

All four of us who are reviewing Android phones. Bro, yeah, it's really good. Anyway, Google decides to drop the Pixel 10A this week. They were teasing it for a little bit. They were sort of teasing it because it looks the same, so they just showed us what it looked like already. Now we have all the official specs and all the official numbers and everything, and it's...

• 16:27Speaker 01

It's the same as the Pixel 9A. Almost literally the same. So I went into this thinking it's the same phone. I have the spec sheet in front of me here. Display, same size, same resolution. I'm going back and forth. Okay, display, batteries, same size. Okay, cameras, same exact cameras, alright.

• 16:46Speaker 01

Chip, same exact Pixel, the Tensor 4 chip. So I'm like, what do they actually change in the Pixel 10A? It's the same price.

• 16:55Speaker 01

In case you're curious, I have a full list here of everything that's different about Pixel 10A.

• 16:59David Imel?

  Perfect.

• 17:00Speaker 01

  Versus Pixel 9A. Ready?

• 17:02David Imel?

  I'm ready.

• 17:03Speaker 01

The camera bump, which was pretty flush before.

• 17:07David Imel?

  It was like, very flush.

• 17:08Speaker 01

It was actually, it was like a millimeter protruding. Now it's actually zero flush.

• 17:14David Imel?

So it took an angle grinder to it?

• 17:15Speaker 01

Yeah. The uniform bezels, I can't tell with my eyes, but I'm told they're slightly thinner.

• 17:23David Imel?

  10%, as they say.

• 17:25Andrew Manganelli?

  It doesn't look it.

• 17:26Speaker 01

Wired charging goes from 23 watts to 30. Wireless charging goes from 7.5 watts to 10.

• 17:31David Imel?

  Okay.

• 17:31Speaker 01

And the display is 10% brighter.

• 17:34Andrew Manganelli?

Did they tell you the wired charging thing? Their spec sheet they sent is so vague and annoying.

• 17:39David Imel?

  10% brighter.

• 17:40Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 17:41Andrew Manganelli?

On the spec sheet they sent us, it just says...

• 17:44David Imel?

  It's like imperceivable brightness change.

• 17:46Andrew Manganelli?

It was like 2,700 peak brightness to 3,000.

• 17:49David Imel?

Yeah, but brightness is logarithmic already, so like...

• 17:52Speaker 01

Yeah, it's not gonna blow your mind for it. It's a little brighter. And otherwise, it's the same phone, same Tensor G4, same 8 gigs of RAM.

• 18:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Does it have?

• 18:02Speaker 01

  Nope.

• 18:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Probably not.

• 18:05Speaker 01

Nope. My one, this is the thing about releasing a new phone that's basically the same as last year. A lot of people sometimes like to complain like, "Oh, you didn't change anything." But I think without any substance for what they should have changed, that's kind of an empty complaint. Because change for the sake of change doesn't really help anyone. Like, you want to keep it consistent. You've got a brand. You know, you have to keep something consistent. So what should they have changed is the real question? And the number one thing that comes to mind is you did this whole Pixel Snap thing with the Pixel 10s, the G2 magnets in the back, this would have been perfect. You could have just one-upped, you could have made an ad about how the base iPhone 17e or 16e or whatever doesn't have it. This would have been fun. You could have had it across the whole Pixel 10. And they didn't add magnets.

• 18:48David Imel?

  That's crazy.

• 18:49Speaker 01

They didn't move to the tensor G5. They didn't add, didn't go 256G as a base storage. They didn't do any of the things they could have done that I think would have been nice at this $499 price.

• 19:01David Imel?

  Taking notes from Samsung.

• 19:03Speaker 01

Yeah. So first I was like, why even release a new phone at all? Because it's, you know, you don't have to every year. But then I was like, you know what? You're Google. You kind of just do. You just, you just go through the motions. And I felt that vibe the entire time I was like shooting the phone. We went to the city and like had a little briefing and they brought us to this back room. I always feel like they usually like shut down that area of the building to keep it quiet so that we can shoot. There was just Google employees walking by. Oh, they're doing the thing. Like, nobody seemed to care. We shot the phone. It was very much an afterthought type of phone. So it's updated.

• 19:38Andrew Manganelli?

I wanted you so bad to bring a 9A and just leave it on one of the platforms and then see if anyone accidentally recorded the wrong phone and made it into a different review.

• 19:47Speaker 01

It's perfect because the colors of the phones, there's four colors, are almost exactly the same, just a little bit more saturated. And I saw the spec sheet had different color names and I was like, oh, maybe there's different colors. Cause there's like fog and obsidian and then there's like a sort of a reddish and a purplish one. I forgot the names.

• 20:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Lavender and berry, right?

• 20:08Speaker 01

I think that's the new ones. Yeah.

• 20:09Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, the new ones. Okay, sorry.

• 20:10Speaker 01

The last ones had some name like peony and porcelain or something else. And so they like renamed the white one porcelain to fog. But it's still, it's the same color. And then they have this.

• 20:21David Imel?

If you're gonna change everything by like such an imperceivable amount, why even change it?

• 20:27Speaker 01

  Exactly.

• 20:27David Imel?

Like you could, you should just call it the Pixel A 2026. Pixel A 2027 at this point.

• 20:34Speaker 01

Well, at least the companies used to be a little bit more honest about it. They'd go, oh, this is the iPhone 6S because it's it's a small update from the iPhone 6. In fact, it's the same design, just a little bit of a spec bump, like a couple of small things.

• 20:46Andrew Manganelli?

This isn't even a spec bump.

• 20:47Speaker 01

Yeah, and at least with that, you'd be like, all right, I'll probably skip the S and just wait for the next one. This one, they it's just a 10A and it's just the same as the last phone. And I ended up thinking about that for the video and the conclusion I came to is like the pixel is very much a software defined thing.

• 21:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 21:06Speaker 01

Like the reason you get a pixel, especially the A series pixel, like that buyer isn't going, I want the latest chip. Or I want the, you know, the highest resolution display or whatever. It's this, it's just a phone that works that has the pixel features. And it's still that. And so that's the reason why it's probably fine for most of those people. But yeah, as someone who reviews phones year over year, this was like, huh, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

• 21:31David Imel?

We've talked about them having a lot of sort of like friendliness with Samsung. It seems like they're taking a lot of lessons from Samsung over here.

• 21:38Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, this is like, we've been joking about how we've on from the what, S23?

• 21:43Speaker 01

S23 plus, plus, plus, plus, plus.

• 21:45Andrew Manganelli?

But this is like another level of a whole lot of nothing, which we might see get beat in a week or in a couple of weeks with, we'll talk about it later, but if iPhone 17E is the exact same thing, it's going to be even funnier this year.

• 22:00Speaker 01

  Even.

• 22:01Andrew Manganelli?

When the the base iPhone got so good last year.

• 22:05David Imel?

Yeah, there might be a lot of L's.

• 22:06Speaker 02

I'm just more with Marquez here. Why even release this 10A? I think they could have just been like, you know, the 9A is still pretty good for people that like want a cheap entry level pixel.

• 22:16Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 22:17Speaker 02

And everyone would have been like, okay, yeah.

• 22:19Speaker 01

Yeah. And the iPhone SE used to just be every couple of years.

• 22:22David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:22Speaker 01

And that was fine. We get an iPhone SE like every three years and it would be like, oh, the budget phone.

• 22:26David Imel?

Apple knew how to do it. They just called it SE so that there wasn't the confusion of like every year. Yeah, because now they kind of had to release the 10A because they had to have a 10 version of the A phone. But if they just called it like the Pixel E.

• 22:38Speaker 01

I think that's literally exactly what they're doing.

• 22:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 22:41Speaker 01

Is somebody is going to, some new shopper is going to start looking for a budget phone and they will see that there is a 9A and no 10A. And they'll go, oh, I guess there is no 10A. And they'll just go, oh, it's no old news and move on. But if there's a 10A, they'll consider it.

• 22:55Andrew Manganelli?

I mean, Apple learned that also. They stopped doing SE and now they did 16E and possibly 17E. Right, so.

• 23:02David Imel?

That seems worse. Seems like they should still call it SE because then they can sell the same phone for a long time.

• 23:08Andrew Manganelli?

They can, but I think people want to see this number, new number. I want new number even if it's cheaper.

• 23:15David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 23:16Andrew Manganelli?

Which is unfortunate, but probably the marketing is, the numbers are probably proving it.

• 23:21David Imel?

Bring back the Pixel 4A. Better phone than this. Better phone than this. Had a headphone jack?

• 23:27Speaker 01

  Cheaper.

• 23:27Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, can I just confirm really fast? The, you, so you said they told you 30 watt wireless charging? Cause all they say in here is fast charging up to 50% in 30 minutes using 45 watt USB C charger or higher sold separately.

• 23:41Speaker 01

Yeah, they will sell you separately a 45 watt charger. And if you use that one, then it can peak at 30 watts instead of 23 like last year.

• 23:48Andrew Manganelli?

This is, putting this in the briefing document that they send you for, as a reviewer's guide is just not helpful.

• 23:54David Imel?

And isn't that 45 watt charger like pretty expensive too?

• 23:57Speaker 01

  It's a thing that I'm sure a lot of Pixel A buyers won't buy.

• 24:00David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:01Speaker 01

They'll just use whatever on they have.

• 24:02David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:02Andrew Manganelli?

I would not be surprised if a bunch of day of reviews today get this part wrong because of how poorly this is worded in the reviewer's guide.

• 24:11Speaker 01

Yeah. It's a lot of deciphering.

• 24:13David Imel?

I mean, at a certain point, these just become Gemini boxes. That's what Google wants. That's their end game. They just wanted them to be magical Gemini boxes that do the thing.

• 24:22Speaker 01

They're not going to do this with the 11, are they?

• 24:24David Imel?

  Uh.

• 24:24Speaker 01

  They can't.

• 24:25David Imel?

Make it look the same, you mean?

• 24:26Speaker 01

They can't have it be the same spec sheet as the 10, right?

• 24:29David Imel?

They're just going to add new tensor accelerators and that's it.

• 24:32Speaker 01

Yeah, that's actually kind of, God, that's maybe what they're already doing. Yeah, it's like.

• 24:37David Imel?

  That's all that matters now.

• 24:38Speaker 01

The, the raw horsepower, GPU power, all that of tensor has never been the reason you buy it.

• 24:42David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 24:43Speaker 01

And so it's just going to be more tensor cores and more AI chops.

• 24:46David Imel?

  I mean.

• 24:47Speaker 01

Kind of the same specs anyway.

• 24:49David Imel?

With the acceleration of AI that we've seen in the last year, I imagine that I O is going to be pretty crazy this year.

• 24:55Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 24:55David Imel?

Uh, which we did get a, a date for officially as of yesterday.

• 24:59Speaker 01

  Summer.

• 24:59David Imel?

Jumping ahead a little bit, but that is happening in May. It's May 19th and 20th. Um, so we'll see if that stacks up. But I imagine there is so much competition in the AI race. It's not even about the phones anymore. It's just about Gemini and what they can do with Gemini. So.

• 25:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 25:14David Imel?

They already have the Pixel experience pretty laid out.

• 25:16Speaker 01

  That's what makes a Pixel a Pixel, I guess.

• 25:18David Imel?

  That's what makes it.

• 25:19Andrew Manganelli?

  An 128 gig base storage.

• 25:21David Imel?

  Yeah, still.

• 25:22Speaker 01

  So.

• 25:24David Imel?

I don't know how we even talked about that for that long, but honestly.

• 25:28Speaker 01

We had our segues going really nicely. We just kind of moved through a bunch of topics effortlessly because we're so good at that.

• 25:34David Imel?

Speaking of a lot of topics that you may or may not get correctly or incorrectly.

• 25:40Speaker 01

I see what you did there.

• 25:41David Imel?

  Maybe trivia time.

• 25:48David Imel?

By the way, audience, I promise it will get more interesting. We have more.

• 25:52Speaker 02

  I don't promise.

• 25:52David Imel?

  We have stuff.

• 25:53Speaker 02

I promise nothing of the sort.

• 25:54David Imel?

  I.

• 25:54Andrew Manganelli?

I thought that was super interesting.

• 25:56David Imel?

We have a lot more interesting.

• 25:57Speaker 01

  That's interesting.

• 25:58Andrew Manganelli?

Actually, if you don't know what, if you didn't look at our thumbnail for the main channel and also look at the Pixel 9A thumbnail, you should go look. Because I think it's one of the, it was the most interesting thing about our video.

• 26:10Speaker 01

And it's not a Photoshop, by the way. Some people are thinking we Photoshopped the Pixel 9A thumbnail to change the color of the phone. No, we reshot. I wore the same jacket. We actually got a new shot.

• 26:22Speaker 02

Tim did more effort than Google put into the phone.

• 26:26Andrew Manganelli?

Tim did change your shirt color.

• 26:28Speaker 01

  Yes.

• 26:28Andrew Manganelli?

Because you wore the exact same one.

• 26:30Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 26:30Andrew Manganelli?

But the phone colors were different, so Tim swapped your shirt.

• 26:33David Imel?

All right, Adam, hit him, hit us with some easier trivia questions because I don't think any of us have gotten a point in like.

• 26:38Speaker 02

  Okay, here's the easiest.

• 26:39David Imel?

  Three months.

• 26:39Speaker 02

  Trivia question.

• 26:40David Imel?

  Okay.

• 26:41Speaker 01

  Let's go.

• 26:42Speaker 02

What is Marquez's social security number?

• 26:43Speaker 01

  I know it.

• 26:44David Imel?

  606.

• 26:45Speaker 01

  I know it.

• 26:46Speaker 02

No, so we spoke about the 10A just now, but the first Pixel A phone was the 3A. Made by which giant manufacturer?

• 26:56Speaker 01

  I know this.

• 26:56David Imel?

  Oh, yeah.

• 26:57Speaker 02

  Who made it?

• 26:57Speaker 01

Yeah, back then there were like.

• 26:59Andrew Manganelli?

  50% chance.

• 27:00Speaker 01

Rotating through a couple of manufacturers to make pixels.

• 27:03Speaker 02

  Yep.

• 27:04David Imel?

  Well.

• 27:05Speaker 01

  And Nexus's.

• 27:06David Imel?

  The Nexus's mostly.

• 27:07Speaker 02

  Nexi?

• 27:08David Imel?

All the pixels are kind of made by the same team.

• 27:11Andrew Manganelli?

No, the first couple of pixels were.

• 27:12Speaker 01

  But the 4A was big.

• 27:15David Imel?

Wasn't it, they were all made by the same team. It was just they use like different screens.

• 27:19Speaker 05

  Team Pixel.

• 27:19David Imel?

The Pixel 2, yeah, they were made by Team Pixel.

• 27:24Andrew Manganelli?

Which was the one where the-

• 27:25David Imel?

Pixel 2 had the screen issue because it was like some had the screens from Samsung and some had them from LG.

• 27:31Andrew Manganelli?

What was the one where like, didn't HCC make the small version and LG made the XL?

• 27:36Speaker 01

  That was the-

• 27:37David Imel?

  That's a different-

• 27:38Speaker 01

  Nexus.

• 27:40David Imel?

I mean, the 5 was made by, the 5X was made by LG and the 6P was made by Huawei.

• 27:45Speaker 01

  Huawei, yeah.

• 27:46David Imel?

Yeah. Anyway, I miss those days. We're talking about how you don't need to update things because you know, it's the same. I miss the Nexus days where we had no freaking-

• 27:55Andrew Manganelli?

  Completely different-

• 27:57David Imel?

What's it gonna be? I don't know. It's gonna be a totally random weird design.

• 28:01Speaker 01

We tried a Shamu, then we tried a Visor, then I went back to Shamu.

• 28:05David Imel?

Then we did this. Oh, and then you liked the 5, we're gonna make it again. But instead of that, we're also gonna have the 6P.

• 28:10Andrew Manganelli?

What do you guys think of Orange?

• 28:12David Imel?

  Yeah, I mean-

• 28:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Pixel 2, HCC, 2XL, LG.

• 28:16David Imel?

  That's-

• 28:16Speaker 01

  Mmm.

• 28:17David Imel?

  Made by?

• 28:17Andrew Manganelli?

  Mm-hmm.

• 28:18David Imel?

  Wow.

• 28:18Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 28:19David Imel?

Well, you just kinda looked up-

• 28:21Andrew Manganelli?

  Pixel 2.

• 28:21Speaker 01

  Well, that's Pixel.

• 28:22David Imel?

  2.

• 28:23Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 28:23David Imel?

You were talking about the Pixel 1?

• 28:25Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 28:25Speaker 01

  Pixel 3.

• 28:26David Imel?

  Pixel 3A.

• 28:27Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 28:28David Imel?

  The first A phone.

• 28:31Andrew Manganelli?

I'm definitely not giving either of you hints because you probably know this exactly. I'm the one who needs a hint.

• 28:36Speaker 01

I think I know it, but we'll see.

• 28:37David Imel?

They think they know it, they say.

• 28:39Speaker 01

  Alright.

• 28:39David Imel?

  We shall see.

• 28:40Speaker 01

Well, answers will be at the end like usual. We'll be right back.

• 28:51Speaker 01

• 31:13Speaker 01

All right, welcome back. It is February, which means we are getting now a little bit more into the meat of the year. We have a Samsung event coming up, and we also have, just announced, an Apple event coming up.

• 31:27Speaker 01

I don't know if it's going to be announced at any of these events, it could be anything. But we can speculate.

• 31:33David Imel?

  Galaxy S23 plus.

• 31:35Speaker 01

  Nothing.

• 31:35Andrew Manganelli?

I think we know what's getting event announced at the Samsung event.

• 31:38Speaker 01

  Yeah. Do we?

• 31:40Andrew Manganelli?

  The S26 lineup.

• 31:41Speaker 01

  Anything, Andrew.

• 31:42Andrew Manganelli?

  What if it's a folding?

• 31:43Speaker 01

  They haven't said.

• 31:45Andrew Manganelli?

Why are your hands in your pockets?

• 31:47David Imel?

Why are they spending so much money on this, on this launch event in San Francisco? When it's literally somebody, somebody put on Twitter, the, the launch event from last year and they said leaked S26 launch event. All the comments were like, wow, so cool that you got this. Like literally, nobody even could realize that it was, that it was last year's.

• 32:07Speaker 01

Samsung's official invitation says, unpacked February 2026, the next AI phone makes your life easier. That could be anything.

• 32:19David Imel?

Maybe what if they, this whole event is just them re-announcing Bixby?

• 32:23Andrew Manganelli?

I, I can't wait for that day. And Bixby speaker comes back.

• 32:27David Imel?

Galaxy Home will find them out.

• 32:29Speaker 01

  It's gonna be S26, S26.

• 32:30Andrew Manganelli?

  That was peak.

• 32:31David Imel?

  The Galaxy phone finally launches.

• 32:32Speaker 01

Galaxy speaker. Anyway, but the Apple event, we actually don't know also, but we kind of probably also do know.

• 32:38David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 32:38Speaker 01

We can, we can guess. What do we hope gets announced at these types of things?

• 32:41David Imel?

Well, I wanted to see new Mac minis to run Claude.

• 32:48Andrew Manganelli?

  No, David, no, no.

• 32:49David Imel?

I'm like, kind of kidding. But there are all these rumors of the new Apple A series MacBook that we've been talking about for many, many, many months now.

• 32:59Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 33:00David Imel?

And this seems to actually be the thing that people are saying might come out because the invitation that went out for people with, there's this March 4th event that's happening that is apparently just going to be sort of an experience event. And people are saying that there's not going to be like a keynote, they're going to release that stuff separately. But the colors in that launch event poster are the colors that people are saying that these MacBooks might be colored as. It's like a light green, a light yellow, sort of a, sort of a really cheap $700 model.

• 33:28Speaker 01

Can I just say every time we do the like speculation about what the event invite means, I always wish that someone had done like a, how close were we about previous event invites and what it actually ended up being? Someone's probably done that.

• 33:43David Imel?

I think someone's done, they've like analyzed every invite and then

• 33:47Speaker 01

And like what the hint was and what it turned out to be?

• 33:49David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:49Speaker 01

Okay, so this is the possible new colors of this colorful new, cheaper, entry-level MacBook powered by an A-series chip.

• 33:56David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 33:56Speaker 01

I'm very interested in this. I think, right now, we're in a spot where like Apple silicon's gotten super, super good. And whenever we talk about MacBook Air, which is the current cheapest laptop they make,

• 34:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 34:07Speaker 01

it is such an easy-to-recommend $1,000, $1,100 laptop. It's almost like the default way of getting into Apple laptops.

• 34:14David Imel?

  Mm-hmm.

• 34:14Speaker 01

But there are lots of laptops that are way cheaper than that. And the Mac Mini came out and was maybe the best deal in tech at like $600. And being just enough computer for anyone who just needs a computer. But what if you need a laptop and you have $600? This is a spot that Apple can probably ship a ton of laptops.

• 34:32David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 34:33Speaker 01

And if the A-series chip is good enough, like they don't need to ship an M1 in this thing, they can ship an A-series chip in super-high volume. It could be a winner.

• 34:43David Imel?

I mean, they really want to compete with the Chromebooks on the education front because Google really locks people the hell in. I mean, I think the fact that they came out with the education bundle so recently, the creative apps for education and all that stuff is not a coincidence. Because the biggest, the biggest thing that really moves people through Google's ecosystem is using Chromebooks while they're in elementary school. And they just have Google accounts, they just continue on with it. So Apple's like, "We really want a piece of that pie." And considering if they're selling this to consumers at $700, I would imagine that they would give them to schools for even cheaper.

• 35:18Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 35:18David Imel?

So they could really, they could really ship a lot of these. But I think most people don't need the power of M5, M4, you know, in their laptops.

• 35:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 35:27David Imel?

So honestly, like an A18, it's basically just an iPad but with an interface that makes sense.

• 35:35David Imel?

I think that that could be a winner.

• 35:36Speaker 01

Yeah, it's funny because there's this whole other slate of possible things we're thinking Apple might announce. Another one is a touchscreen MacBook Pro, maybe at like some point late this year or next year, something like that.

• 35:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 35:48Speaker 01

And so we're kind of keeping an eye on how macOS is evolving and what the app situation looks like and how that's happening. And obviously, they're so similar in architecture anyway, like you're running lots of those apps. It makes total sense that an A-series chip would work in a cheap MacBook.

• 36:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 36:05Speaker 01

But it now makes even more sense that we could see a touchscreen version of macOS.

• 36:09David Imel?

  Yeah, yeah.

• 36:10Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 36:10David Imel?

It is interesting because the, what happens to the MacBook Air? I mean, they kind of created this really, really big pipeline of computers at that point, where the MacBook Air was supposed to be the cheapest, most affordable model, and it's 13 inches. So is the only differentiating factor going to be the fact that it has a not as strong processor?

• 36:31Speaker 01

  Yeah, I think it'll be.

• 36:31David Imel?

Is that going to be the main thing?

• 36:32Speaker 01

Air will go back to meaning middle.

• 36:35Andrew Manganelli?

I think it'll be middle, but like I'd assume the, if we're, if we're guessing that this A18 version of the MacBook is going to be something almost like a Chromebook that we give to schools, I'd assume the chassis that it's in is going to be pretty.

• 36:48Speaker 01

  A little cheaper.

• 36:49Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, a cheaper version of it, which means thicker, which means probably more ports and stuff like that for kids. When, so then like, are we assuming this is the like, the cheaper in all aspects version of the MacBook? Then the Air is kind of like the in-between, I understand I don't need a ton of processing power or ports, thinner, I'm traveling all the time, gets everything done, I need to be the cheaper, I don't say grown-up version, but.

• 37:14Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 37:14Andrew Manganelli?

And then, then we have the pros that are pro models.

• 37:17Speaker 01

Yeah, I kind of see it as an expansion of the lineup downward. And I don't know what to expect ports-wise from this. I think naturally if it's going to education, you have to have a couple of ports, but I could see Apple not doing that.

• 37:31David Imel?

  Yeah. Everything's online.

• 37:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, maybe not more ports.

• 37:34Speaker 01

Do you even, do you, but all that education stuff is on the internet.

• 37:37Andrew Manganelli?

  That's a good point.

• 37:38David Imel?

Do you really need any ports besides a charging port?

• 37:41Speaker 01

I just, I always picture an HDMI port, but I haven't been in a classroom. So long that I'm not even sure you need that anymore.

• 37:46Andrew Manganelli?

  The kids don't need it.

• 37:47David Imel?

  They definitely don't need it.

• 37:48Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah, the kids don't need it.

• 37:49David Imel?

HDMI is like only for the pros.

• 37:51Andrew Manganelli?

I guess if you want to think about it of like the iPad lineup of like they had an iPad mini, an iPad Pro, and then they had the like iPad for education one that still had the old button and everything for super, super cheap like.

• 38:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 38:04Andrew Manganelli?

This MacBook would be that, I guess.

• 38:07Speaker 01

Exactly. Yeah. So it puts iPad, it puts Air in the middle again. So in the iPad lineup, it's iPad. Then there's Air and there's iPad Pro.

• 38:14David Imel?

  Hmm.

• 38:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 38:15Speaker 01

And then Air is in the middle. So the MacBooks, it would be like the MacBook. This is like the 12 inch MacBook they wanted to do well.

• 38:19Andrew Manganelli?

I literally have that pulled up right now.

• 38:21Speaker 01

Yeah, yeah. It's like a slightly smaller, slightly cheaper, slightly underpowered, but totally fine for most people laptop. And then if you really need to upgrade, okay, here's a bigger screen. Here's a bigger battery. It's the MacBook Air. It's 1100 bucks and it's all the computer you probably need. And then the pros for the people who need that.

• 38:36David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:36Speaker 01

Air is in the middle again. And then what else is Air? I mean, iPhone Air is kind of in the middle, sort of.

• 38:41David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 38:42Speaker 01

Price wise, it's technically in the middle.

• 38:43David Imel?

  It's in the middle.

• 38:43Speaker 01

  So, yeah.

• 38:44Andrew Manganelli?

  It kind of works.

• 38:45Speaker 01

It, um, it's rumored to have a 12.9 inch display, whereas the MacBook Air has 13.6. Not a huge difference there. It's something. I was really hoping they would go for an actual like 12 inch, super hyper portable display. Especially if they're trying to get into the edu- like the education market where kids' backpacks are like the size of a purse. I think that could be really helpful.

• 39:05Andrew Manganelli?

Am I the only one just straight up picturing the MacBook from 2015?

• 39:08Speaker 01

No, yeah, for sure. The 12 inch MacBook.

• 39:10Andrew Manganelli?

Make the bezel bigger and that, or well, smaller.

• 39:12Speaker 01

You know what's funny about this?

• 39:13David Imel?

I mean, I would love that.

• 39:14Speaker 01

I think that the 12 inch MacBook, hear me out, and the trash can Mac Pro have a lot in common. Ready? Ready for this? I'm gonna blow your mind.

• 39:24David Imel?

  Ready.

• 39:25Speaker 01

This was back in the, in the earlier days of almost like late Johnny Eye of Apple of ultra minimalism, where they had an idea of a computer that they wanted to make, but they didn't have the silicon to really make it a reasonable computer.

• 39:37David Imel?

  Concepts of a computer.

• 39:38Speaker 01

So the Mac Pro trash can was like this ultra small, single fan.

• 39:45Speaker 01

Computer with like a Intel chip in there and like dual Radeon GPUs. It was ridiculous. It was crazy that they even tried that, but they did and it was a computer that would readily overheat and leave dead pixels in your video exports. But it was a thing that they probably could have done with Apple silicon a couple of years later, really, really well. Then the 12 inch MacBook is the same thing. That was powered by an Intel Core M3 or I5 or I7 or whatever back in 2017.

• 40:11David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:11Speaker 01

And it was a smaller, a little bit underpowered, a little bit too much heat throttled type of computer where like if they had Apple silicon back then, that would have actually been a reasonable computer. So I think this is them revisiting that concept. I don't think they're going to revisit that trashcan Mac Pro. I think that's just Mac Studio now.

• 40:28David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:28Speaker 01

But that's like the too early for Mac, too early for Apple silicon idea that can come around and actually be good again.

• 40:35David Imel?

I wish that they would release the trashcan again as the trashcan fan edition.

• 40:40Speaker 01

  They could.

• 40:41David Imel?

With an M chip. That'd be so sick.

• 40:43Speaker 01

I have so many other thoughts about Mac Pro. Mac Pro is basically dead.

• 40:47David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 40:47Speaker 01

I think. And we're, we can get to some of these other rumors because we're expecting more M5 MacBook Pros and like higher end, like finishing out the M5 chip lineup, like an M5 Pro and an M5 Max.

• 40:59David Imel?

Whether Ultra ever gets upgraded from M2 Ultra, I'm not sure.

• 41:03Speaker 01

Cause yeah, the Mac Pro is still on M2 Ultra.

• 41:06David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 41:07Speaker 01

At this point, there is an M3 Ultra chip. It's only in Mac Studio. There is no M4 Ultra chip yet. If they did make it.

• 41:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Really made this so.

• 41:14Speaker 05

Does that mean you cannot buy a Mac Pro that can do ray tracing then? Cause I think ray tracing was added in M3. Look that up. Someone fact check me on that.

• 41:24Speaker 01

  If that's true, then yeah.

• 41:25Speaker 05

  That's crazy.

• 41:26Speaker 01

  That's a bummer.

• 41:27David Imel?

  RTX on, baby, RTX.

• 41:28Speaker 01

I have a Mac Pro on my desk. I've been using and editing it. It's M2 Ultra. It's a great computer. I also have one internal PCI card in there. It's got like a 90 terabyte SSD RAID and that's super useful for my backup. There is no reason I should be using a Mac Pro still. I should just use a Mac Studio.

• 41:47Andrew Manganelli?

They're so funny because they're like 90% air on the inside.

• 41:50Speaker 01

  It's just airflow.

• 41:51David Imel?

  That's the Mac air.

• 41:53Speaker 01

So I might as well, at this point, like my next desktop computer is, I think, an M5 Ultra Mac Studio with like a single Thunderbolt cable to like my little SSD backup. I think that's what it has to be. Cause I think Mac Pro is just, Apple's done with like giving that attention and resources.

• 42:09Speaker 05

Marcus, what you should do is they make these like rack units that have, for a Mac Studio, that have a Thunderbolt port like built into the back. So as soon as you put it in the rack, it like plugs into the Thunderbolt and then it adds to like one or two PCIe card slots in it.

• 42:26Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 42:26Speaker 05

So you can still use your giant hard drive. And what's really cool is there's like this, a lot of them have this mechanical situation where you push a button on the front that pushes an armature that links around the back. So it moves the power button to the front.

• 42:39Speaker 01

Oh, that's hilarious. It's funny, cause I, the difference, now that Thunderbolt 5 is out, it's, it's enough bandwidth for me to do what I was going to do with that PCI storage. I think there's still people who use PCI for other things they need all that bandwidth for. But for me, accessing like 40 terabytes of backup footage, I can edit off of a Thunderbolt 5 drive at this point.

• 42:57David Imel?

Yeah. You're gonna need to edit off of those drives you already have because the cost of storage is up, up 10x from what it was a year ago.

• 43:04Speaker 01

Yeah. So, yeah, I, I think my Mac Pro is, is on its way out at some point and I'm hoping to see an M5 Ultra, even though we don't even have M4 Ultra yet.

• 43:12David Imel?

It'd be nice. It'd be nice. Yeah. Well, speaking of, there's some other things that we're probably going to see. Probably an M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro, because they still have not released M5 Pro and M5 Max. That's correct, right?

• 43:24Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 43:24David Imel?

No, no Mac Mini with M5?

• 43:26Speaker 01

  Just base M5.

• 43:26David Imel?

They haven't talked about the Mac Mini. Apparently some new, potentially cheaper displays, which would, could be cool because currently you've got the Studio Display, which is cheaper. And then you've got the Pro Display XDR, which has not been updated in a really, really, really long time. Maybe something in the middle could be nice, you know, something that's pro but isn't $6,000.

• 43:49Speaker 01

Both of those displays are in a really weird place in the market. Like Andrew, you know a lot more about like displays and the variety of displays you can get. But I just feel like the Pro Display XDR is a $5,000.

• 44:01Andrew Manganelli?

It's well, and a thousand dollars stand.

• 44:03Speaker 01

Plus a thousand dollars stand, plus a thousand dollar nano texture coating that's on mine. It's like, and it's a 60 hertz display. So on paper, it looks ridiculous, but it has the brightness, it has the color calibration. It has like what we need for everyone on the studio seeing the exact same color, which is awesome. The studio display, correct me if I'm wrong, seventeen hundred dollars, I think.

• 44:22David Imel?

  I think it's seventeen hundred.

• 44:23Speaker 01

  Also 60 hertz.

• 44:25David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 44:26Speaker 01

Twenty seven inch display. It's, it's kind of, it gets pitched by Apple in these like kind of creative scenarios sometimes. Cause it's a studio display.

• 44:34David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 44:34Speaker 01

But also like the display for your bedroom or the display for just the computer you have in your house. It's kind of a silly buy.

• 44:41David Imel?

The rumor is going to be Studio Display 2.

• 44:44Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. So just a update to it?

• 44:46David Imel?

And this is from nine to five Mac and they're saying that they're thinking it will have a higher refresh rate, either 90 or 120 hertz.

• 44:52Speaker 01

  Please.

• 44:53David Imel?

Uh, an A19 chip in it, cause currently it has the A13 Bionic chip in it. That's a, to allow this camera and speakers and stuff to do all the Apple magic.

• 45:01Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 45:02David Imel?

Uh, potentially a mini LED display, which can be good, and HDR support.

• 45:07Speaker 01

  Sure.

• 45:07David Imel?

  So.

• 45:08Speaker 01

And that is probably, I think, all I would need of that computer and hopefully it's reasonably priced. Yeah. Not sure I can cross my fingers.

• 45:14Andrew Manganelli?

Well, the last part, you say goodbye too, but.

• 45:17David Imel?

I imagine it'll be about the same price. I think that there are just not that many good Thunderbolt displays right now. And that's what a lot of people come back to when they talk about the studio display is like, it's lacking on a lot of features. But there are just not a lot of displays where you can just plug in one cable and everything just works perfectly.

• 45:34Speaker 01

Yeah, there's a small handful. I've seen some reviews. There's like the LG Ultra Fine stuff. And I think we have like a Dell one now that I've, I've gotten really, it's like the giant 5K.

• 45:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 45:44Speaker 01

It's like, they're big. Uh, so there's some, there's some interesting choices out there. Almost all of them are a least higher refresh rate. I can't believe Apple's still shipping like this expensive a display at 60 hertz.

• 45:53Andrew Manganelli?

It's hard to compare, like you said, the Pro Display XDR, because you're looking at things that are like color calibrated. And once you start getting into those monitors, they're niche as well and super expensive. So if you were looking at pure specs, you could probably find 800 monitors that are better.

• 46:07Speaker 01

  For six grand.

• 46:08Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 46:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 46:09Andrew Manganelli?

But then you get into that.

• 46:10Speaker 01

  But then in like.

• 46:11Andrew Manganelli?

  So niche in there.

• 46:12Speaker 01

In color calibration world, there's like $40,000 monitors.

• 46:15Andrew Manganelli?

Plus you want a cheese grater on the back, which is the most important part that's behind your walls.

• 46:19Speaker 01

It's huge. Yeah. Every day I walk around the side of my desk and I just check the back just to make sure the cheese grater holes are still there. Nice, nice.

• 46:25David Imel?

Yeah. Uh, yeah. And then some other potential updates. A18 base iPad. So just kind of bumping that up. M4 iPad Air. So it's in the middle, finally getting M4. iPhone 17E, which again, we don't really expect anything to be different from the 16E.

• 46:40Speaker 01

  They gotta have.

• 46:40Andrew Manganelli?

  It's gonna be so funny.

• 46:41Speaker 01

  They gotta have MagSafe.

• 46:43Andrew Manganelli?

I hope they do the same thing Pixel just did because if 16E was already bust of the year last year.

• 46:50Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 46:50Andrew Manganelli?

Terrible phone to buy. If 17E is exactly the same, when they then made the base 17, uh, like a deal, like we finally said, an iPhone was a deal. If then it's the same as the 16E, it's going to be somehow a worse deal than it already was.

• 47:05Speaker 01

Head scratching. That would be crazy.

• 47:07Andrew Manganelli?

And none of us would be surprised by it at all.

• 47:10Speaker 01

So it's just a new chip and maybe the new like dynamic island, I guess. Is that it? I guess.

• 47:16Andrew Manganelli?

I can't even remember what the 16E had.

• 47:19Speaker 01

  60 hertz.

• 47:20David Imel?

  Had the notch.

• 47:21Speaker 01

Yeah. Thicker bezels, no MagSafe, no fast charge. It has wireless charging, um, but no magnets, obviously.

• 47:29David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 47:30Speaker 01

And like black or white are the only colors, single camera, like really truly a base phone, like single speakers at the bottom, like really base phone. I don't see them changing a lot of that stuff. They're just gonna probably do a chip bump and maybe it's display bump to like the, at this point, like the, the first dynamic island LCD that they ever made. Did they ever do an LCD dynamic island? Maybe not. So maybe it's an OLED. Maybe it's an OLED.

• 47:53David Imel?

Only OLED. Yeah, it would, it would have to be OLED if it was a dynamic island.

• 47:56Speaker 01

So that'd be cool. Yeah. And then I guess the same phone, otherwise sadly.

• 48:01David Imel?

  Yep. Starting at 600 bucks.

• 48:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 48:05Speaker 01

Okay, 16E is already OLED, so that's good. It'll be OLED. That's good.

• 48:08David Imel?

It seems like it's quite a month of quote-unquote updating things.

• 48:13Speaker 01

  Slide updates for 2016.

• 48:14David Imel?

Slide updates. It's like Samsung, Google, and Apple are all just not really updating things.

• 48:20Speaker 01

And these are still the companies that are like mega companies that are big enough to not be as price sensitive with memory with all that's happening, right? Like we think GPUs, memory, all that stuff.

• 48:31David Imel?

Yeah, that's the thing. I mean, I think Apple can basically just eat the cost at this point. Even if it eats into their margin to the point where they lose money, I think that they're willing to eat the cost, thinking that maybe within a year, memory will go back down. Because they don't want to be unstable and dynamically change their pricing constantly, especially for a mega corporation like them. That would be a bad look. We do have one more event, though. There's going to be a Nothing event for the Nothing 4A on the 5th. And Carl Pei decided to do what Carl Pei does. And he took the Apple event invite and he made a little Photoshop spray paint thing of Nothing and over the Apple logo and then put March 5th instead of March 4th.

• 49:11Speaker 01

  Neat.

• 49:12David Imel?

Funny, kind of, almost a callback, almost a callback to 2018 when there was going to be a OnePlus event that Carl was the head of. And they announced it and it was a big fanfare. And then two weeks before Apple was like, actually, we're gonna have an event on that day. And then OnePlus had to literally move to a week later because they're like, we literally cannot compete.

• 49:32Speaker 01

Did they move it a week? I thought they moved it like one day.

• 49:34Andrew Manganelli?

That was a day or two after.

• 49:35David Imel?

I think they moved it a week later.

• 49:37Speaker 01

It was really funny, though, because everyone in my world was like, so which one are you going to? Yeah, we all knew.

• 49:44Andrew Manganelli?

If this is a callback to that, I'll give Carl some credit for this. I think that's funny. I think if you can joke about something funny that happened to you in the past, that probably screwed up a lot of things.

• 49:54David Imel?

Yeah. Well, ironically, this 4A seems to be the only thing that has a new design, so. I guess you gotta give, you gotta give credit where it's due.

• 50:02Speaker 01

  Fair enough.

• 50:03Andrew Manganelli?

I've got a kind of a thing here on, we're getting a lot of tweets because Apple just announced video podcasts through Apple Podcasts. And obviously, like Spotify, a lot of people have been asking us if we are going to put it on. So let me explain what's happening and then explain if we will be on it or not. They lost, launched their video podcast experience on the podcast app, which lets people stream through HTTP live streaming. And you will be able to download for offline viewing. This is something they just announced on Monday, I think it was. In their press release, Apple said, "We are putting creators in full control of their content and how they build their businesses, while making it easier than ever for audiences to listen to or watch podcasts."

• 50:44Andrew Manganelli?

So everyone's asking us, will we be putting it on it? And right now, the answer is no, because we can't. Because Megaphone is not one of the partners that's working with this so far. It is opening with Art 19, Omni Studio, Simplecast, and AdsWiz. Those are all the platforms of publishing that will be able to use this. Does say there will be more participating partners later, but we're in the Vox Media Podcast Network and we use Megaphone, which is also owned by Spotify. So I don't know when they will be joining the Apple Podcasts video platform for this. But it is kind of cool that they're allowing dynamically inserted video ads, including host reads, which is a big thing in video podcasting right now. That's still kind of weird.

• 51:27Andrew Manganelli?

If you watch us on YouTube, those are obviously not dynamically inserted.

• 51:30David Imel?

Until the YouTube feature gets added.

• 51:32Andrew Manganelli?

Till that gets added, we'll see what that does. Podcasting and podcast ads are so based on dynamically inserted ads because when you're just downloading and streaming audio all the time, it gets swapped out. And that's kind of how people can find ways to advertise on there. It's much easier when you can't see if the host is wearing a different shirt or not. On video podcasts, we re-record our ads every week. I think Vox thinks we're crazy that we do that, but we do because we like things to be as high quality as they are, even if it's an ad you're gonna skip. So we'll see what that does. The reason we're, we still have to see how this plays out though, because the way Spotify did video, and the reason we're, one of the reasons we're still not on there is like,

• 52:14Andrew Manganelli?

We were worried and it might still take over the, if they take the video, audio and turn that into the audio thing, we might lose all of the advertising that's coming through Vox or whichever podcast network we're with. And if they're doing their weird ads just from Spotify, if Apple were to do something like that, I don't know, we need to see what it does because I don't think people realize how much ads in podcasts is what makes or breaks.

• 52:39David Imel?

And also just to be transparent, like we're, we're, we're, we're half a podcast, we're half a YouTube channel, basically. And we need to keep getting views on YouTube because that's how we grow and make money, discoverability, that kind of stuff. And it's just kind of awkward now that everyone's like, just put it in here because we don't get paid for that. So I understand the, the flexibility and being able to jump between the audio and the video in the same app is nice. But if, if the waveform YouTube channel starts getting less and less views because people are watching it on Spotify and, and Apple Podcasts and then we don't get money for that, it's kind of hard to.

• 53:13Andrew Manganelli?

It's also, it'll be once like podcast networks who seems pretty, I don't want to say behind, but the pod, podcasting in generals is not really up to date with advertising everywhere else. So once they get stuff working and figuring out rates and stuff like that, it could totally work. And I, I wonder how much we would lose on if it would be on Spotify. Like if it's just our audio listeners wanting to hop into video, if that would actually hit our YouTube at all, there's, there's just a lot more to it than just can you post it on?

• 53:44David Imel?

Yeah, like the reason Joe Rogan took that $10 million deal or whatever it was, $100 million.

• 53:50Andrew Manganelli?

It's because we turned it down.

• 53:52David Imel?

Yeah, because they were, he was the B plan. But the reason he took the $100 million deal was like, he was making a lot of money on YouTube.

• 53:58Speaker 01

Yeah, that's how much it costs to convince him to not put it on YouTube.

• 54:01David Imel?

  Exactly. Yeah.

• 54:03Speaker 01

So. Yeah. And I think it's also, you know, worth remembering that YouTube is still technically the largest podcast platform and has a lot of influence on how podcasts get made and shared. And we are a podcast, but as you said, we're, we're a YouTube channel as well. And so there's different things to optimize for and different formats that you lean into. So.

• 54:23Andrew Manganelli?

Apple Podcasts does a decent job of doing like charts and different suggested shows. So I think some, some podcasters who maybe are smaller that have video or like introducing it to that might introduce you to a new audience, which could be cool. But in terms of us doing it quite yet. We've got a lot of stuff to figure out before we hop on that.

• 54:42Speaker 01

I think Apple Podcasts may be, in my opinion, in my limited experience, the only other podcast platform that is big enough and has enough discoverability through those charts that you could be swayed to go, alright, we should be putting everything on Apple Podcasts because people will find us there and we'll chart there sometimes and get new viewership there. I could see that.

• 55:04David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:04Speaker 01

It's much easier to convince someone about YouTube there, but yeah, I could see that.

• 55:08David Imel?

And either way, competition is good. Like if Vimeo ever got big enough to be competitive to YouTube, people would have better ad rates on YouTube.

• 55:15Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 55:16David Imel?

  So.

• 55:17Speaker 01

  There'd be Vimeo Podcasts.

• 55:18David Imel?

Yeah, if Spotify and Apple and YouTube all wanna like battle it out on who pays the most to video viewers, then go at it.

• 55:26Speaker 01

  Be my guest.

• 55:27David Imel?

Be my guest. That would be nice.

• 55:29Speaker 01

  We love it.

• 55:29Andrew Manganelli?

  Is podcasting dead?

• 55:30David Imel?

Podcasting is more of a concept.

• 55:33Andrew Manganelli?

  That's fair.

• 55:34David Imel?

I think that it's not what it used to be. Everything's just a talk show now.

• 55:38Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, pretty much.

• 55:38Speaker 02

I feel like the beauty of podcasting before was that you could just record something, put it on RSS and like be done with it.

• 55:43David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:44Speaker 02

To have like ads now, the problem, I wish there was like just some free

• 55:48David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 55:48Speaker 02

third-party thing where we can upload our own video ads.

• 55:52Speaker 01

  Federated protocol?

• 55:53Speaker 02

If only there was some way to like insert it dynamically in an open manner into each video.

• 55:59Speaker 01

  That'd be crazy.

• 56:00Speaker 02

Yeah, but YouTube, Spotify, Apple, none of these platforms are ever gonna let that happen. So like, this is the conundrum we're in, where this podcast industry is kind of exploding. It's on Netflix now, HBO has podcasts after Game of Thrones. It's just like, there's so many different places to upload video.

• 56:16Andrew Manganelli?

The fear too is like, why we're with a podcast network that does audio ads and stuff, like that is going through an RSS feed and where, whenever we start seeing Spotify or Apple trying to do it, it's like, well, what cut are they gonna start trying to take? Or figuring out or controlling ads and jumping on it first as a established place doesn't seem like the best idea.

• 56:35David Imel?

If there were an open federated protocol, we wouldn't have to have a middleman. Just saying, maybe that's something I should vibe code it with my Claude bot at ClaudeCon. ClaudeCon or whatever it's called. Okay, well, we love games on this podcast. We have lately been playing more and more games, just like people keep playing games with my heart. So I think Adam is gonna do a game with us after we do this second trivia question.

• 57:02Andrew Manganelli?

We do less games if phone companies made phones fun at all anymore.

• 57:06Speaker 02

  Can't afford this?

• 57:07David Imel?

  That's right.

• 57:09Speaker 02

If you're a gamer, you cannot afford this. I'm sorry.

• 57:12Speaker 05

Guys, earlier in the episode, we talked about Ring, but Ring was not always called Ring.

• 57:21Speaker 01

  Weren't they on Shark Tank?

• 57:23Speaker 05

  They were on Shark Tank.

• 57:24Andrew Manganelli?

  They were?

• 57:25Speaker 01

  They were Shark Tank.

• 57:25Speaker 05

And Kevin O'Leary tried to get it and he said, no.

• 57:28David Imel?

He did. They didn't make a deal and then they went on to sell to Amazon for a bazil- a billion. Was it a billion?

• 57:33Speaker 01

  I believe.

• 57:33Speaker 05

  Well.

• 57:34David Imel?

  Same as Instagram, a bazil?

• 57:36Speaker 02

  Yeah, it was a bazil.

• 57:37David Imel?

  A bazillion?

• 57:37Speaker 01

  A bazil, yeah.

• 57:38Speaker 05

Jeff Bezos was like, I could do so much evil with this.

• 57:42David Imel?

Surveillance state, you say? Melania movie, you say?

• 57:47Speaker 05

Uh, but before it was called Ring, was it called?

• 57:50David Imel?

  Surveillance state.

• 57:51Speaker 05

A, Doorbot, B, Campbell, or C, Stoop Watcher?

• 58:00Andrew Manganelli?

There's no way there's any of those.

• 58:02David Imel?

Campbell, yeah, wait, I'm not gonna.

• 58:04Speaker 01

It's one of those three terrible names.

• 58:07Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. I love my Campbell chicken noodle suit.

• 58:10David Imel?

  Yeah, I was gonna say.

• 58:11Speaker 01

They would get sued immediately if they used Campbell.

• 58:13Speaker 05

It was like how like Amazon's original name was like Abra or something like all of these companies like start off with something goofy and then eventually hire a marketer who's like, okay, we gotta do something about this.

• 58:22Andrew Manganelli?

Abra at least is like, the other ones are just attempting to do a pun really poorly. That sounds like what ChatGPT would tell me if I was trying to make.

• 58:30Speaker 05

What the internet, I didn't get any like primary sources to confirm this, but what the internet sort of seemed to indicate was that like, they started off on like as a camera company, like, like camera for your house. And that was not marketing well. And so they pivoted to being a smart doorbell that happened to have a camera. And now that people are just okay with being surveilled 24/7 now, they're like, we're a camera company. I guess not. I guess they try to be like, guys, we're a camera company. Here's a Super Bowl ad and everyone is like, I didn't like that. Just, just go ring, ring. Someone's at the front door.

• 59:03David Imel?

We'll think about it. We'll be right back.

• 59:13Speaker 01

Support for the show comes from Jira by Atlassian. So AI is only as useful as the context it has to work from. But when that context is scattered across tools like threads and DMs, that means your team and your AI agents end up flying kind of blind. That's the problem Jira solves. What's the goal tied to your project? What got decided last week in Slack? Atlassian's teamwork graph pulls all of these pieces together from Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and more, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Welcome back. We are going to play two truths and a lie. Producer table versus host table.

• 1:01:39Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:01:40Speaker 02

So there will be points up for grabs. I will say a product and we're going to tell you three specs from that product. One of them will be completely made up. Two truths, one lie about all of these products. You guys need to agree on which one you think it is.

• 1:01:56Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:01:57Speaker 02

And then if we fooled you, we get the point. If you get it right, you get the point.

• 1:02:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:02:01Speaker 02

  All right.

• 1:02:02Speaker 01

  Real products.

• 1:02:02Speaker 02

  Yeah, real products.

• 1:02:03Speaker 01

  All right.

• 1:02:04Speaker 02

  Let's start easy.

• 1:02:05Speaker 01

  All right.

• 1:02:05Speaker 02

  Pixel 10 Pro.

• 1:02:06Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:02:07Speaker 02

The first spec. It comes in two screen sizes, the Pro, which is 6.3 inches and the Pro XL, which is 6.7 inches. Second spec.

• 1:02:15Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:02:16Speaker 02

Seven years of software updates. The third spec comes with a year of Google AI Pro, a $239 value.

• 1:02:25Andrew Manganelli?

I'm like trying to think of every single thing.

• 1:02:28Speaker 01

The seven years is of security updates and pixel drops, not full on software updates.

• 1:02:33Andrew Manganelli?

  Right.

• 1:02:33David Imel?

  Are there technicalities like this?

• 1:02:35Andrew Manganelli?

  There have to be.

• 1:02:35Speaker 02

There are, but I'm pulling this straight from their website.

• 1:02:39Speaker 01

  And you said seven?

• 1:02:41Speaker 02

  Seven years of software updates.

• 1:02:42Speaker 01

  I think that's a lie.

• 1:02:44Andrew Manganelli?

That's my guess because it's security updates, not?

• 1:02:46Speaker 01

  Yeah, and pixel drop.

• 1:02:48David Imel?

I think it's the lie because in seven years, AI will have destroyed humanity, so they won't be able to.

• 1:02:53Speaker 02

Seven years of new features and updates, if that changes it.

• 1:02:56Andrew Manganelli?

  It does.

• 1:02:59Andrew Manganelli?

Okay. Okay, so 6.3 and 6.7, does that sound right for?

• 1:03:04Speaker 01

6.3 and 6.7, yes, that sounds right. 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, yep.

• 1:03:09Andrew Manganelli?

  And then?

• 1:03:10David Imel?

Or did they change the screenshot size by .1 or was that Apple?

• 1:03:13Speaker 01

I have the Pro on my desk. I'm fair, oh. No, I think that's right. I think that's right, 6.3.

• 1:03:18David Imel?

So maybe it doesn't come with Google AI Pro for a year?

• 1:03:22Speaker 01

  I thought it did.

• 1:03:22David Imel?

  Or maybe it wasn't a $230 value?

• 1:03:24Speaker 01

  Doesn't it come with Ultra?

• 1:03:25David Imel?

  No.

• 1:03:26Speaker 01

  No, it doesn't. That's crazy.

• 1:03:27David Imel?

  Also, it's a $200 a month.

• 1:03:28Andrew Manganelli?

  That's the $200 one?

• 1:03:29David Imel?

  Pro is $20 a month.

• 1:03:31Speaker 02

Do you want me to re-read that for you?

• 1:03:32Andrew Manganelli?

It sounds like something that would come.

• 1:03:33Speaker 01

Let's hear it one more time, Adam.

• 1:03:34Speaker 02

Two screen sizes, the Pro 6.3 inches and the Pro XL 6.7 inches. Seven years of new features and updates. Or comes with a year of Google AI Pro, a $239 value.

• 1:03:47Andrew Manganelli?

Is it not a $239 value?

• 1:03:51Andrew Manganelli?

  This is the easy one?

• 1:03:52Speaker 02

This is the easy one because it's like a very modern device. It's like things off their website.

• 1:03:57David Imel?

  I think it's C.

• 1:03:58Speaker 01

  I think it's C, yeah.

• 1:03:59Andrew Manganelli?

Alright. Part of me thinks he's throwing one screen size off.

• 1:04:03Speaker 01

  Hmm.

• 1:04:04Andrew Manganelli?

  Go to C. I'll go C.

• 1:04:06Speaker 01

Yeah. Let's go C is the last.

• 1:04:08Speaker 02

  You're all going C?

• 1:04:08Speaker 01

  C is the last.

• 1:04:09Speaker 02

  Wrong. We get the point.

• 1:04:11Speaker 01

  What?

• 1:04:11David Imel?

  For the size.

• 1:04:12Speaker 02

The Pro XL was 6.8 inches.

• 1:04:13Andrew Manganelli?

I knew they changed it by a millimeter.

• 1:04:15Speaker 01

  6.9? 6.8?

• 1:04:17David Imel?

I knew they changed it by .1, .1 inches.

• 1:04:20Speaker 01

  Okay. You got us.

• 1:04:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Yay.

• 1:04:23Speaker 01

  Damn it.

• 1:04:24Andrew Manganelli?

  We're losing this game still.

• 1:04:26David Imel?

Also, can I just say, I love that we, not we, but the royal we bullied these, Google into seven years of software updates. We slowly, we slowly bullied these companies into actually providing, seven years is a long time.

• 1:04:40Speaker 01

I mean, didn't the iPhone, what iPhone just got an update after like 10 years recently? There's some headline, it was just some security update.

• 1:04:46Andrew Manganelli?

Oh, it was like a security, yeah. It was like a four, wasn't it?

• 1:04:49Speaker 01

  Yeah, it's crazy.

• 1:04:50David Imel?

But very few companies update things for seven years. That's like a long time.

• 1:04:54Speaker 01

They usually forget it exists after one year.

• 1:04:55David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:04:56Speaker 05

You know, Marquez, I'm really glad you brought that up because the next product on our list, arguably the greatest consumer product ever released by any company ever.

• 1:05:06David Imel?

  Humane AI.

• 1:05:07Speaker 01

I know a lot about it.

• 1:05:07David Imel?

  The humane AI.

• 1:05:08Speaker 05

Yeah. Better than the humane AI pin.

• 1:05:10David Imel?

  Oh.

• 1:05:10Speaker 05

More benefit to society than penicillin.

• 1:05:13Speaker 01

  Jesus.

• 1:05:16Speaker 05

  The iPhone 12 mini.

• 1:05:17Speaker 01

  Hmm. The wheel.

• 1:05:19Speaker 05

  Are you guys?

• 1:05:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Fire?

• 1:05:21Speaker 05

Way more than the wheel. Way more than fire. Dude, I'm too hot. Anyway.

• 1:05:26David Imel?

  He's sad.

• 1:05:27Speaker 05

  Guys, iPhone 12 mini.

• 1:05:29David Imel?

  Hmm.

• 1:05:29Speaker 05

A, the iPhone 12 mini has a screen to body ratio greater than 85%. The iPhone 12 mini is the oldest iPhone still fully compatible with iOS 26. Fully compatible. I'm not talking about security patches. I'm talking about iOS 26.

• 1:05:48Andrew Manganelli?

  I think that's right.

• 1:05:49David Imel?

  I think the 11 is.

• 1:05:51Speaker 05

The iPhone 12 mini was part of the first series of iPhones to have ceramic shield.

• 1:05:56David Imel?

I think the 11 is, the 11 is the 26 one.

• 1:06:01Andrew Manganelli?

I swear Ellis said something about his phone being the last.

• 1:06:05David Imel?

It was one of the ones that had ceramic shield.

• 1:06:06Speaker 05

  I did say it.

• 1:06:07David Imel?

The 12, the 12 is what added ceramic shield. I do remember the, I feel like I remember 12 being ceramic shield. It was, yeah.

• 1:06:14Andrew Manganelli?

And then what, what was the first thing again?

• 1:06:15Speaker 05

The iPhone 12 mini has a screen to body ratio greater than 85%.

• 1:06:20David Imel?

  It's probably like 86.

• 1:06:21Andrew Manganelli?

I kinda think it's like just under.

• 1:06:23David Imel?

I think it has under 85%.

• 1:06:24Andrew Manganelli?

Cause I think the notch in his phone that's small.

• 1:06:27David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:06:28Andrew Manganelli?

  And it's bezels.

• 1:06:29Speaker 05

  So which is the lie?

• 1:06:30Andrew Manganelli?

If we're thinking about OG like screen to body ratios, we're like 88.

• 1:06:33Speaker 05

I need, I need, I need one solid answer.

• 1:06:35David Imel?

  It's A. Well, I got outvoted.

• 1:06:37Speaker 05

So the screen to body ratio is the lie?

• 1:06:39David Imel?

  Yes. Got outvoted. Guys. What?

• 1:06:42Speaker 05

The screen to body ratio of the iPhone 12 mini is 85.1%. Making it higher than 85%. You wanna know something even more infuriating?

• 1:06:51David Imel?

  It's the 11.

• 1:06:51Speaker 05

  It's the 11, baby.

• 1:06:53David Imel?

  Guys!

• 1:06:55David Imel?

When will you learn to listen to me?

• 1:06:56Andrew Manganelli?

The one before I said, I think it's the screen size and you told me no.

• 1:07:00David Imel?

Yeah, I didn't know about that. I know about this one. So the iPhone 11 is the one that's fully supported?

• 1:07:06Speaker 05

Yeah, iPhone 11 is the oldest phone, fully supported iOS 26.

• 1:07:10David Imel?

You did call that immediately. I did. Wow. Immediately.

• 1:07:12Speaker 05

  Guys, ready for number three?

• 1:07:13David Imel?

  Without any hesitation.

• 1:07:14Andrew Manganelli?

Well, David got his one right, so he can't get any other right so far, so.

• 1:07:18David Imel?

Without any hesitation. We're losing, guys. We're down.

• 1:07:21Speaker 05

All right, all right. Oculus Rift S. It was made by Oculus VR and Lenovo.

• 1:07:29Speaker 05

Used an OLED panel with an 80 Hz refresh rate. Featured software only IPD adjustment. IPD meaning inter pupillary distance.

• 1:07:39David Imel?

That sounds insane. How do you do that? It's 90 Hz.

• 1:07:44Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, can you say the three things again? Because I didn't, I thought you were still explaining the Oculus Rift. I didn't know you were doing the thing.

• 1:07:50Speaker 05

Partnered, made in partnership with Lenovo.

• 1:07:52Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:07:53Speaker 05

Uses an OLED panel that has an 80 Hz refresh rate.

• 1:07:56David Imel?

Nah, it's got to be 90.

• 1:07:57Speaker 05

Featured, uh, software, oh, had software only IPD, inter pupillary distance.

• 1:08:03David Imel?

I'm pretty sure Valve put out like a paper that said for people to not get sick, it has to be 90 or higher.

• 1:08:09Andrew Manganelli?

  That sounds familiar.

• 1:08:11David Imel?

I think a lot of these companies focused on 90 Hz. I wanna believe David again.

• 1:08:17Speaker 01

I've also seen some weird refresh rates on VR headsets.

• 1:08:20David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:08:21Speaker 01

• 1:08:24David Imel?

  Really?

• 1:08:24Speaker 01

  And 96.

• 1:08:25David Imel?

  48?

• 1:08:27Speaker 01

Maybe not 48. That sounds too low.

• 1:08:28David Imel?

  That sounds too low.

• 1:08:29Speaker 01

  But let's go with that.

• 1:08:30David Imel?

I gotta say, this one for stipulation, I'm not as sure.

• 1:08:34Andrew Manganelli?

Nope. Nope. We're a team here, David.

• 1:08:37Speaker 01

Cause I've never seen software-only IPD, ever. I've never heard of that.

• 1:08:41David Imel?

  You mean Foveated Rendering?

• 1:08:42Speaker 01

No, when like the, when you first set up a headset and you hear the motors move the lenses to match your eyes. I've never heard of software-only IPD. I mean, I've, it's possible that the Rift is the cheapest one in, but this is the Rift.

• 1:08:53Andrew Manganelli?

  This is like-

• 1:08:54Speaker 01

This is the crazy high-end one.

• 1:08:55Andrew Manganelli?

  The Rift S.

• 1:08:56Speaker 01

  The Rift S?

• 1:08:57Andrew Manganelli?

Which was, I believe, the last one before I got this.

• 1:08:59David Imel?

Wait, A was made by Lenovo?

• 1:09:02Andrew Manganelli?

A was made by Oculus VR and Lenovo.

• 1:09:04David Imel?

  Did Lenovo make this?

• 1:09:06Speaker 01

I don't know that one at all. I don't know-

• 1:09:08Andrew Manganelli?

Lenovo could be behind a thousand products and I would never know about it.

• 1:09:12Speaker 01

We have no clue on this.

• 1:09:13Andrew Manganelli?

Behind every great product is an even greater Lenovo. There's somewhere in that product is the little red mouse button.

• 1:09:20Speaker 01

Is it still a Valve paper? They probably wouldn't shift their own with under 90 Hz.

• 1:09:24David Imel?

No, but Valve, yeah, but that's the, but that's the, that's Valve. That's not Lenovo slash Oculus. Like Oculus might have. I feel like Lenovo did not make the Oculus S.

• 1:09:36Speaker 01

Yeah, I go that. I don't see them in that space at all.

• 1:09:42Andrew Manganelli?

I need confirmation. Yeah, I'll confirm, I'll go with that, but-

• 1:09:45David Imel?

Yeah, I think I'd say, cause they, they did make the Windows VR headset, the Lenovo Windows VR headset, but that was not Oculus S. So I'd say-

• 1:09:53Speaker 01

  Let's go with Lenovo.

• 1:09:54Andrew Manganelli?

But it means they've been in that space before? This is a shot in the dark.

• 1:09:58David Imel?

  Shot in the dark Lenovo?

• 1:09:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:10:00David Imel?

Lenovo is a lie. Oh my god.

• 1:10:02Andrew Manganelli?

Wow, you guys are doing great.

• 1:10:04David Imel?

  Oh my god.

• 1:10:06Andrew Manganelli?

It was an LCD panel, not an OLED panel.

• 1:10:08David Imel?

That was the guy. You said OLED?

• 1:10:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Should have heard OLED.

• 1:10:11David Imel?

  I didn't even hear that.

• 1:10:12Andrew Manganelli?

That was really obvious now that I.

• 1:10:14David Imel?

  Didn't even register.

• 1:10:15Speaker 02

You guys were going so hard on everything else. I was like, they missed the most obvious.

• 1:10:18Andrew Manganelli?

  What number was that?

• 1:10:19Speaker 02

That was B, number two. Use an OLED panel with an 80 Hz refresh rate. And I knew throwing the Hz in there would really get you guys.

• 1:10:25David Imel?

When I was in Philly on Monday, I was like locked in. When I was in Philly on Monday, I went to this museum type thing where everything is a mosaic. And there's like a, there's like a thing where you have to find specific things in the mosaic. And it's, this felt like one of those things where you're staring directly at it, but you just didn't see the one thing that it asked for. And I just didn't even hear you guys say OLED. So I wasn't even thinking about it. I was thinking about everything around it. Yeah.

• 1:10:56Speaker 05

This one, this one should be way easier.

• 1:10:57David Imel?

  Okay, I'm locked in.

• 1:10:58Speaker 05

Lock in, lock in, lock in, lock in.

• 1:11:00David Imel?

  This is a three pointer.

• 1:11:01Speaker 05

This category, this one's, this one's, you know how confident I am? This is an eight pointer. Let's do it. Ready?

• 1:11:11David Imel?

  Alright.

• 1:11:13Speaker 05

  There is a cucumber emoji.

• 1:11:16David Imel?

  No.

• 1:11:17Speaker 05

  There is an orca emoji.

• 1:11:19David Imel?

There is. Seen it. There is.

• 1:11:20Speaker 05

  There's a barbecue emoji.

• 1:11:21David Imel?

There's no cucumber. It's a pickle. Like a barbecue, like the stand. I've seen that too. There is no cucumber. It's the cucumber. Cucumber. Final answer.

• 1:11:30Speaker 05

  Cucumber.

• 1:11:30David Imel?

  Cucumber.

• 1:11:31Speaker 05

  Final answer.

• 1:11:31David Imel?

  Final answer.

• 1:11:34David Imel?

  Is it the barbecue?

• 1:11:35Speaker 05

  Yeah, there's no barbecue.

• 1:11:36Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't remember a barbecue.

• 1:11:37David Imel?

It's probably like Slack might have its own barbecue emoji.

• 1:11:40Speaker 05

Also, that was sort of a trick question because the orca is not in iOS yet, but it is in Unicode.

• 1:11:47David Imel?

  What?

• 1:11:48Speaker 05

Yeah. They just haven't added it to the Apple keyboard yet.

• 1:11:50David Imel?

  But you didn't say Apple.

• 1:11:51Speaker 05

  I didn't, which is why they're.

• 1:11:53David Imel?

Oh my god, there's a cucumber.

• 1:11:54Speaker 05

  That's why.

• 1:11:55David Imel?

Oh, I see where you're saying.

• 1:11:56Speaker 05

Just if you search orca emoji on your iPhone, it will not come up.

• 1:11:59David Imel?

I can't believe there's a cucumber and a pickle. Oh my god, there is a cucumber.

• 1:12:02Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, there's a cucumber and pickle?

• 1:12:04Speaker 05

The pickle is also not, I actually think the pickle is gonna be.

• 1:12:07David Imel?

I don't see a pickle. It's the same as a cucumber. I only see the cucumber.

• 1:12:09Speaker 05

No, no, no, no, no. I have the answer to this. The pickle is, so right now we're, the most recent like confirmed approved in Unicode emoji is 17. That's not in iOS. 18 is going to get confirmed, I think in the coming weeks. And there is a pickle, I believe, in emoji 18.

• 1:12:27Andrew Manganelli?

  What's the difference?

• 1:12:28Speaker 05

  One is literally pickled.

• 1:12:30Andrew Manganelli?

I want to see like how they make the visual difference between that.

• 1:12:34Speaker 05

  Next, Android honeycomb.

• 1:12:38Andrew Manganelli?

  This is on you.

• 1:12:38Speaker 02

Famous for its hollow user interface.

• 1:12:41Speaker 01

  Yep.

• 1:12:42Speaker 02

Debut on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

• 1:12:45Speaker 01

  No.

• 1:12:46Speaker 02

  Introduced recent apps for multitasking.

• 1:12:49Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:12:49Speaker 02

  Which one is true?

• 1:12:50David Imel?

  Honeycomb is five.

• 1:12:52Speaker 01

  I believe it was.

• 1:12:53David Imel?

And it debuted on the, on the, yeah, the Zoom tablet.

• 1:12:56Speaker 01

  The Motorola Zoom. Yeah.

• 1:12:58David Imel?

  So.

• 1:12:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Agree.

• 1:12:59David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:12:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Unless it's wrong.

• 1:13:00David Imel?

  It's not wrong.

• 1:13:01Speaker 02

  Are you locking it in?

• 1:13:02David Imel?

Honeycomb is a tablet UI only, so it did not debut on the Galaxy Nexus.

• 1:13:05Speaker 01

It was four tablets, it had to be.

• 1:13:06David Imel?

  It didn't.

• 1:13:07Speaker 02

  The Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

• 1:13:08Speaker 01

It was hollow on the Nexus.

• 1:13:09David Imel?

The Galaxy Nexus is a phone. Yeah, it was ice cream sandwich on the Nexus 4.0 and then five was.

• 1:13:16Speaker 01

But just to be sure, can you reread the question and the possible answers?

• 1:13:22Speaker 02

The question is Android Honeycomb. Here are the three things about it. One, famous for its hollow user interface. Two, debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Three, introduced recent apps for multitasking.

• 1:13:38David Imel?

It didn't debut on the Nexus.

• 1:13:40Speaker 01

  Honeycomb. Honeycomb.

• 1:13:43Speaker 01

  Eclair, Froyo, gingerbread, Honeycomb.

• 1:13:47Andrew Manganelli?

  I'm so hungry.

• 1:13:49Speaker 01

Ice cream sandwich was 4.0, right?

• 1:13:54Speaker 01

  On the.

• 1:13:56Speaker 01

I'm fairly sure that Honeycomb was famous for hollow. It was for tablets and it debuted on my Motorola Zoom and it later showed up on the Asus Transformer tablet. So I'm going with.

• 1:14:07David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:14:08Speaker 01

  The debut on a Nexus.

• 1:14:09David Imel?

  It's correct.

• 1:14:11Speaker 02

Correct. Finally, they're on the board with one.

• 1:14:13Speaker 01

  We're gods.

• 1:14:14Speaker 02

  That was a layup.

• 1:14:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Gosh.

• 1:14:16Speaker 05

All right, let's do, let's hit him with another Marquez. I guess that was, all of you guys knew that, but this one's really the Marquez special. But you should all also know it, except maybe.

• 1:14:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Andrew. Cough fellas.

• 1:14:28Speaker 05

Well, no, it's not, it's because you use the other one sometimes. Because this product is, I wish I had a drumroll. I guess that's the next button I gotta put. Um, Final Cut Pro was originally called Key Grip and developed by a company called Macromedia. Final Cut Pro was acquired by Apple in 2001. And Marquez, this one is just for you. You can temporarily disable Final Cut Pro's signature feature, the magnetic timeline, by holding down the tilde key.

• 1:15:00Andrew Manganelli?

  He's never done that before?

• 1:15:01Speaker 05

I know, he does it in a not different crazy way.

• 1:15:05Speaker 01

  You can do that?

• 1:15:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay, here.

• 1:15:07Speaker 05

  I could be lying.

• 1:15:08Speaker 01

  Allegedly?

• 1:15:09Andrew Manganelli?

So, so when I was in high school, I was using Final Cut 6, I believe.

• 1:15:16Speaker 01

  Seven, probably.

• 1:15:17Speaker 05

And that was in 1864, right?

• 1:15:19Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:15:20Andrew Manganelli?

It may have made it seven by my senior year. My senior year in high school is 2008. So if 2001 was when it got acquired, that would presumably be Final Cut 1. And then, so the timing kind of like.

• 1:15:36Speaker 01

Matches up, right? So if we're fact checking the 2001 part, because I remember Apple acquired it. I remember it was KeyGrip before.

• 1:15:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:15:43Speaker 01

I don't remember the name of the company that developed it, which if that's the gotcha, then I'm not going to get it. But it was KeyGrip and it was acquired by Apple. And if so, if 2001 makes sense, then the things that we're fact checking are the tilde or the name of the company that owned it before Apple bought it. 2001.

• 1:16:00Andrew Manganelli?

The 2001 could be like a year off.

• 1:16:02Speaker 05

I'll, I'll make it a little more interesting. It's not, the name of the company is not the gotcha here. I'm not saying whether it was actually called KeyGrip or not, but we're not, we're not double, double tricking you on that.

• 1:16:13Speaker 01

I was using Final Cut 7 in 2006 through 2008. I know that for sure.

• 1:16:19Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:16:19Speaker 01

So. But that was already owned by Apple by then? Yeah.

• 1:16:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, it was fine.

• 1:16:24Speaker 01

Yeah. Final Cut. Actually, I don't know if it was owned by Apple by then.

• 1:16:28Andrew Manganelli?

  I think so.

• 1:16:29Speaker 01

I just used it on a Mac. It was pretty, it was pretty much like the Apple thing. It was actually, one of its most popular versions was 7. Yeah.

• 1:16:39Andrew Manganelli?

So is the gotcha there potentially?

• 1:16:41Speaker 01

  So that's KeyGrip?

• 1:16:42Andrew Manganelli?

Turned it into Final Cut before Apple acquired it or?

• 1:16:45Speaker 01

  Oh.

• 1:16:46Andrew Manganelli?

No. Is that what you guys are saying? Because I just assumed when Apple acquired it, that's when it became Final Cut?

• 1:16:50Speaker 01

  Yeah, Apple.

• 1:16:52Andrew Manganelli?

But I don't know the lore there.

• 1:16:53Speaker 01

So did Apple acquire Final Cut or did they acquire KeyGrip?

• 1:16:57Speaker 05

  That's not the gotcha either.

• 1:16:58Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:16:59Speaker 01

So the gotcha is either the tilde.

• 1:17:01Andrew Manganelli?

I think it's the tilde to screw with you.

• 1:17:02Speaker 05

There's no, there's no, there's no, it's just one of them is just a lie.

• 1:17:06David Imel?

  Could be the tilde.

• 1:17:08Andrew Manganelli?

  I think they're trying to.

• 1:17:08Speaker 01

Maybe you can hide it, hold down another key. Yeah, I think it's the tilde. I don't think you can disable magnetic timeline. I think you can disable magnetism of clips, like your, your playhead with the tilde, or maybe not the tilde, but you can disable and enable magnetic snapping. Oh, yeah. But not the whole magnetic timeline. I think it is snapping. So I'm gonna go with, I'm gonna go with C. Yeah. Is the actual lie. Yeah.

• 1:17:32Andrew Manganelli?

  I suppose so.

• 1:17:32Speaker 01

Cause I think it is snapping.

• 1:17:33Speaker 05

  What do you mean?

• 1:17:35Speaker 01

What? In like the magnetic snapping?

• 1:17:37Speaker 05

You can disable magnetic snapping, but not.

• 1:17:39Speaker 01

So the magnetic timeline is when you're dropping clips onto the timeline itself, and when you shorten a clip, every single clip after it moves with it. If you don't use that and you, you stack above and below the magnetic timeline, you can still snap clips together instead of having to get to the exact key frame because of the magnetic feature

• 1:17:59Speaker 05

  Okay.

• 1:18:00Speaker 01

  of the playhead.

• 1:18:01Speaker 05

I get it. This one, I just have to think, so.

• 1:18:03Andrew Manganelli?

  We were right.

• 1:18:04Speaker 05

You're not right. But the thing is, is like.

• 1:18:06Andrew Manganelli?

  Well, was C right?

• 1:18:07Speaker 05

Mark has this kind of like accidentally, right? Because.

• 1:18:10Andrew Manganelli?

  The best kind, right?

• 1:18:10Speaker 05

So the, the, the tilde key just lets you move clips everywhere. They don't, they don't magnetize the stuff. I don't know if when you're moving stuff with the tilde, the tilde key, if other stuff still snaps to it. If you just want other stuff to not, if you just want other clips to not respond magnetically, you use the P key, which switches to the position tool. So now I'm like, you're wrong, but like you may have accidentally like stumbled on a right answer because I wasn't like specific enough.

• 1:18:39Speaker 01

Which feels in line with OLED versus LCD. Is key grip also a lie?

• 1:18:44Speaker 05

Now, I'll give you that one just because, no, key grip is, is true. And we lied about the year it was acquired.

• 1:18:48Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:18:49Speaker 05

I feel like I should give you that point just because you did get me on the specifics.

• 1:18:53Andrew Manganelli?

Yeah. Final Cut 7 was released in 2009, so.

• 1:18:57David Imel?

I, well, you gotta cut the part where I said I was using in 2006.

• 1:19:01Speaker 01

Wait, what the [bleep]? What was I using then? Six?

• 1:19:03Andrew Manganelli?

They look exactly the same. Six and se- six, seven were exactly the same.

• 1:19:08Speaker 01

  In 2000?

• 1:19:08Andrew Manganelli?

They were just six, seven. Who knows?

• 1:19:11Speaker 02

Speaking of sevens, the iPhone 7.

• 1:19:13Speaker 01

  Okay. iPhone 7. Yep.

• 1:19:15Speaker 02

Comes in rose gold, gold, silver, black, jet black, and product red.

• 1:19:22Speaker 02

  Has a 3264 and 128 gigabyte capacity.

• 1:19:26David Imel?

That's the lie. That's the lie. That's the lie.

• 1:19:28Speaker 02

  Featured the A10 Fusion chip.

• 1:19:30David Imel?

  It's there's no, it's sorry, there's no 128. Right?

• 1:19:35Speaker 01

  3264.

• 1:19:36Andrew Manganelli?

Can you re-say it? But I like David's.

• 1:19:38Speaker 01

  Connection?

• 1:19:39Andrew Manganelli?

The confidence to the level of interruption there.

• 1:19:43David Imel?

  Sorry.

• 1:19:44Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, no, no, no, no. I like, if you interrupt him, I'm team David here. We're like, that's how I know.

• 1:19:50Speaker 02

I'm interrupting. So the first one comes in rose gold, gold, silver, black.

• 1:19:55Andrew Manganelli?

Can I interrupt? I don't know what we're talking about.

• 1:19:57David Imel?

  iPhone 7.

• 1:19:58Speaker 02

iPhone 7. All the colors were.

• 1:20:01Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:20:01Speaker 02

Rose gold, gold, silver, black, jet black, and product red. Number two, has a 3264 or 128 gigabyte capacity. And number three, featured the A10 Fusion chip.

• 1:20:15Speaker 01

Okay, I remember the jet black iPhone. Wasn't that the?

• 1:20:18Andrew Manganelli?

No, that, no, I agree. But he said rose gold and gold.

• 1:20:21David Imel?

Yeah, no, no, he was saying, oh.

• 1:20:23Andrew Manganelli?

He said it came in rose gold and gold. I thought it just came in one of those.

• 1:20:27Speaker 01

  I'm just trying to remember.

• 1:20:28Andrew Manganelli?

And then it came in black.

• 1:20:28David Imel?

They never had a truly gold.

• 1:20:30Speaker 01

The phone that had a jet black didn't also have a black, though, right?

• 1:20:34Andrew Manganelli?

  No, I thought it did.

• 1:20:35Speaker 01

  Really?

• 1:20:35Andrew Manganelli?

I thought it, it wasn't only one of them, the like 7 plus. I think 7 was right with the jet black because that thing, that was right when I started working.

• 1:20:44Speaker 01

  That wasn't the 8?

• 1:20:45Andrew Manganelli?

No, because the 8 came out with the 10.

• 1:20:47David Imel?

We haven't even started discussing the Fusion chip, though. We haven't even started discussing.

• 1:20:51Speaker 01

And what? We feel like it's the 7 that had gold, rose gold, black, and jet black.

• 1:20:57David Imel?

I don't think there was gold and rose gold. Has Apple ever released a purely gold phone? I don't think so.

• 1:21:04Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:21:04David Imel?

  What?

• 1:21:05Speaker 01

What? Was there like a 5S that was gold? There was like silver and a gold version?

• 1:21:08David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:09Andrew Manganelli?

  I thought they've always been.

• 1:21:10David Imel?

That might have been rose gold.

• 1:21:11Speaker 01

  Silver and gold.

• 1:21:13Speaker 05

I don't know why I'm just nodding and shaking my head.

• 1:21:14Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, I don't either. I don't know if you're screwing.

• 1:21:16David Imel?

I think it was rose gold because it was like pink.

• 1:21:18Speaker 01

  Rose gold's pink, right?

• 1:21:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:21:20Speaker 01

They never had a phone that had also gold?

• 1:21:22Andrew Manganelli?

  Was?

• 1:21:22David Imel?

  I don't know.

• 1:21:23Andrew Manganelli?

8 the rose gold that just looked like a Band-Aid?

• 1:21:26Speaker 01

  That.

• 1:21:27Andrew Manganelli?

Cause that was glass back, right?

• 1:21:29Speaker 01

  Yeah, eight was glass back.

• 1:21:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Seven?

• 1:21:31Speaker 01

  What color?

• 1:21:32Andrew Manganelli?

Well, I guess, wait, wait, was seven glass back or metal back?

• 1:21:36Speaker 01

  Seven?

• 1:21:37Andrew Manganelli?

  Uh. It was glass, right?

• 1:21:39Speaker 01

Yeah, cause the eight was the first wireless ch- yeah, first wireless charging iPhone was the eight.

• 1:21:44Andrew Manganelli?

  So then seven was not-

• 1:21:46Speaker 01

Had a jet black glossy version, but it didn't wireless charge. I remember that phone. It was like super-

• 1:21:53Andrew Manganelli?

  It was crazy.

• 1:21:54Speaker 01

It had like scratches, super easily, single camera, but I don't think it had wireless charging, but it was the one that was like polished.

• 1:22:01David Imel?

No, they added wireless charging on the eleven.

• 1:22:03Speaker 01

  Eight.

• 1:22:04David Imel?

  No, the twelve.

• 1:22:05Speaker 01

  Oh, wireless charging.

• 1:22:06David Imel?

  Wireless charging.

• 1:22:07Speaker 01

  Eight?

• 1:22:08David Imel?

  MagSafe was twelve.

• 1:22:09Speaker 01

Didn't ten they add wireless charging?

• 1:22:12Andrew Manganelli?

Eight and ten came out at the same time.

• 1:22:13Speaker 01

Yeah, eight and ten were at the same time, yeah.

• 1:22:19Andrew Manganelli?

  What are we talking about?

• 1:22:20Speaker 01

So the zoom. The iPhone seven, did it have gold?

• 1:22:25Andrew Manganelli?

  Sounds like too many colors.

• 1:22:26Speaker 01

  Rose gold.

• 1:22:26David Imel?

I don't think it had gold.

• 1:22:27Speaker 01

  Silver.

• 1:22:28David Imel?

  I think it's the color.

• 1:22:29Andrew Manganelli?

Can I make a clarification question?

• 1:22:31Speaker 02

  Yeah.

• 1:22:31Andrew Manganelli?

When you say seven, do you mean seven lineup or just the seven? Are you counting seven plus?

• 1:22:36Speaker 02

On Apple's website for documentation, in technical specifications, it just says iPhone seven.

• 1:22:42David Imel?

I don't think it came in gold and rose gold. I don't remember an iPhone seven in regular gold color.

• 1:22:49Andrew Manganelli?

I'm like wondering if one of them came in the seven and one came in the seven plus.

• 1:22:53Speaker 01

  Aluminum.

• 1:22:55Speaker 01

  Gold.

• 1:22:56David Imel?

  I messed up.

• 1:22:57Speaker 01

I can picture it with the antenna bands, but maybe I'm just making that up in my head.

• 1:23:01David Imel?

  Nah.

• 1:23:02Speaker 01

A ten fusion ship is that, um?

• 1:23:04David Imel?

I don't think there's any way to know.

• 1:23:06Speaker 01

  Well, we're on-

• 1:23:07David Imel?

  A ten.

• 1:23:08Speaker 01

We're on- Was A ten in the iPhone ten?

• 1:23:10David Imel?

We're on A eighteen right now.

• 1:23:12Speaker 01

Wait, let's go backwards. A ten in the iPhone seven would mean A nine in the iPhone six, which would mean A eight in the iPhone five. Oh, wait, six S.

• 1:23:21David Imel?

Well, no, no, no, we should go back from the top because we'll start, we're on-

• 1:23:25Speaker 02

  iOS twenty six right now.

• 1:23:27Speaker 01

  Shut up. A eighteen-

• 1:23:28David Imel?

  On the seventeen.

• 1:23:29Speaker 01

  iPhone seventeen.

• 1:23:30David Imel?

  So it'd be-

• 1:23:31Speaker 01

An iPhone sixteen is A seventeen.

• 1:23:34David Imel?

Fifteen is sixteen, fourteen is thirteen, twelve is tw-

• 1:23:39Andrew Manganelli?

No, no, no, thirteen is twelve.

• 1:23:42Speaker 01

  iPhone thirteen?

• 1:23:43Andrew Manganelli?

  Is twelve.

• 1:23:43Speaker 01

  Is A twelve.

• 1:23:44Speaker 05

Yo, for any young aspiring podcasters-

• 1:23:46Speaker 01

  No, it's the other way.

• 1:23:47Andrew Manganelli?

  iPhone twelve is A thirteen.

• 1:23:49Speaker 05

This is not how you make it good.

• 1:23:51Speaker 01

iPhone twelve is A thirteen. iPhone 12.

• 1:23:54David Imel?

  Is a 13.

• 1:23:55Speaker 01

  iPhone 11 is a 12. iPhone 10.

• 1:23:59David Imel?

  10 slash 8.

• 1:24:00Speaker 01

  Is slash 8 is a 11.

• 1:24:02David Imel?

  A 11.

• 1:24:03Speaker 01

So then it would be a 10.

• 1:24:05David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:24:05Speaker 01

  A 10 Fusion.

• 1:24:07David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:24:07Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, they lines up.

• 1:24:08Speaker 01

  Yeah.

• 1:24:09Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:24:10Speaker 01

Or do they not do the?

• 1:24:11Andrew Manganelli?

I hope it's the gold thing because we said it 14 minutes ago.

• 1:24:13Speaker 01

Let's go with the gold. Let's go with the colors.

• 1:24:15David Imel?

  What about the Fusion?

• 1:24:16Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:24:17Speaker 05

David was right at the beginning. David interrupted the question and it was right.

• 1:24:21Speaker 01

  There's no 128?

• 1:24:23Speaker 05

No, there's no 64, but it was the storage thing.

• 1:24:25Speaker 01

The courage of my convictions, bro. We gotta go.

• 1:24:28Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, they had, so they had a 32 and a 128?

• 1:24:31Speaker 05

And they had a gold and a rose gold and a black and a jet black.

• 1:24:35David Imel?

  32, 128, 256 were the storage options.

• 1:24:39Andrew Manganelli?

They just went from 32 to 128?

• 1:24:42Speaker 05

What's even funnier is at the top of the page, they have the gold and the rose gold right next to each other. So you guys are like, there's no way. They never did both gold and rose gold. We're just like looking at these two.

• 1:24:50Speaker 01

I forgot that they used to do like 32 and then if you, if you pay the money, you can get like a round storage.

• 1:24:56Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, that gold one's kind of nice. Was this the best lineup of colors?

• 1:24:59Speaker 01

And it had the best camera.

• 1:25:00Andrew Manganelli?

Dude, the gold is really good. And that was a good product red with the like metal.

• 1:25:05Speaker 01

Yeah, iPhone 7 was the best.

• 1:25:06David Imel?

Jet black was overrated though. Damn, I forgot they did black and jet black.

• 1:25:09Andrew Manganelli?

Jet black sucks, but black was good.

• 1:25:11Speaker 01

  Black was fire. Damn.

• 1:25:12Speaker 05

Okay. Guys, this one's not a trick. There's no, and that saying that really makes it sound like it's a trick.

• 1:25:17Speaker 01

  I was gonna say.

• 1:25:18Speaker 05

This one's just like straight up true or lie. Ready? This, the, the consumer product for this one.

• 1:25:27Andrew Manganelli?

The pause means there's a trick somewhere in here.

• 1:25:30Speaker 05

The trick is that it's not a consumer product. It's facts about me, Ellis.

• 1:25:35Speaker 01

  Facts about Ellis.

• 1:25:35Speaker 05

Are you ready? Fact number one. I have owned two phones with full QWERTY keyboards, physical QWERTY keyboards on two phones over the course of my entire life.

• 1:25:49Speaker 05

Fact number two, I owned three iPhones before the iPhone lost the home button. Meaning I had three iPhones between one and eight, right? Yeah.

• 1:26:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Can, nevermind.

• 1:26:03Speaker 05

  Yeah, no, clarify, hit it.

• 1:26:06Andrew Manganelli?

I feel like saying three is this exact number, is it like more than three or less?

• 1:26:09Speaker 05

  No, exact number.

• 1:26:10Andrew Manganelli?

  Exact number.

• 1:26:11Speaker 05

If it's, it's either three or everything else.

• 1:26:15Speaker 05

Same thing with the two. And get it, last fact, I have only ever owned one phone in my entire 12 year old life. That had a T9 dialer keypad. And you know what I mean when I say T9 dialer? I mean 12 buttons arranged in a three column, four row grid.

• 1:26:34David Imel?

  Was it the LG Voyager?

• 1:26:37Speaker 05

  I'm not, I can't.

• 1:26:38Andrew Manganelli?

Voyager's. Since the Voyager had a touchscreen and now it had a touchscreen and then a keyboard.

• 1:26:44Speaker 05

So one phone with a T9 keypad, three iPhones with home buttons, two phones with full QWERTY keyboards.

• 1:26:55Andrew Manganelli?

  I.

• 1:26:56Speaker 01

  Three iPhones.

• 1:26:56Andrew Manganelli?

  I think it's, I don't think he owned a phone with a T9 keyboard.

• 1:27:00David Imel?

  I think he did.

• 1:27:01Andrew Manganelli?

  I think that's the lie.

• 1:27:03David Imel?

  Oh yeah, you're right.

• 1:27:04Andrew Manganelli?

Do you remember when he said he bought his first phone and it was?

• 1:27:07David Imel?

It was a slider, slider phone, it was like a Yagasaki or whatever.

• 1:27:10Speaker 01

  Yes, a T9 would be.

• 1:27:12Speaker 05

  What?

• 1:27:13David Imel?

  Like a Yamaha.

• 1:27:15Andrew Manganelli?

  Mitsubishi.

• 1:27:17Speaker 01

So if the first phone's a slider, then we're gone.

• 1:27:21Andrew Manganelli?

  I think he never owned a T9.

• 1:27:23David Imel?

Yeah, I think it was the slider only.

• 1:27:25Speaker 05

No, it was the Yamaha Kawasaki hybrid. My first phone was Korean, it was a Samsung. It was a Samsung.

• 1:27:33David Imel?

  Was it really?

• 1:27:33Speaker 05

  Yes.

• 1:27:34Andrew Manganelli?

  Did it have T9?

• 1:27:36Speaker 05

Andrew, you are correct, I've never owned.

• 1:27:39Andrew Manganelli?

I know nothing about tech and everything about Ellis.

• 1:27:43Speaker 05

  It's.

• 1:27:43David Imel?

  As it should be.

• 1:27:44Speaker 01

  It was a six pointer.

• 1:27:46David Imel?

Six pointer, so we're, ooh, we're ahead of you guys now.

• 1:27:48Speaker 05

  Did you say that? No.

• 1:27:51David Imel?

  Working nine to five.

• 1:27:52Speaker 02

So, score, producers, five, hosts, three. Next question.

• 1:27:57David Imel?

  Okay.

• 1:27:57Speaker 02

  Is about Microsoft.

• 1:28:00Speaker 02

Number one, the first Microsoft store was in Scottsdale, Arizona. Number two, Bing is actually the rebrand of an older Microsoft search engine called Live Search. Or number three, while the Zune no longer lives, the music store where you can get files for Zune, Groove Music, is still up and running. Which one is it?

• 1:28:21Andrew Manganelli?

  What?

• 1:28:22Speaker 02

  One of these.

• 1:28:24David Imel?

I feel like the first store was in, um, Santa Clara. So I, I can picture like the first ever Microsoft store, uh, and us all going, oh, wow, it's a pretty glass store. But I don't remember where that was.

• 1:28:36Andrew Manganelli?

I would assume it's in Washington.

• 1:28:39David Imel?

Which is where their HQ is?

• 1:28:40Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah.

• 1:28:41David Imel?

I think it was in Santa Clara.

• 1:28:42Speaker 01

Thing I'm thinking about is I owned a Zune HD and never once used whatever he said was the name of the music store.

• 1:28:48David Imel?

  And the search.

• 1:28:49Speaker 01

It would not be up and running still, right?

• 1:28:51David Imel?

  That's no way.

• 1:28:51Speaker 01

Groove Music? I remember Groove Music. I remember Groove.

• 1:28:54Andrew Manganelli?

That feels like the weird thing that we're supposed to pick.

• 1:28:57Speaker 01

I didn't use Groove Music. I used the Zune store and bought, I bought music from the Zune store. I never, I don't think it was called Groove Music.

• 1:29:04Andrew Manganelli?

  I don't.

• 1:29:05Speaker 01

  I would pick that.

• 1:29:06David Imel?

I'm pretty sure there is a Groove Music.

• 1:29:09Speaker 01

  What was it for?

• 1:29:10David Imel?

  Music.

• 1:29:11Speaker 01

  But like, for what?

• 1:29:12David Imel?

  I mean, but.

• 1:29:12Speaker 01

Sure, for your PC? Or like, what would you, why would you buy it?

• 1:29:17David Imel?

I think it was. Like an MP3 purchasing platform?

• 1:29:21Andrew Manganelli?

Well, because it was like old iTunes where you used to buy your songs individually. So that makes sense. And I could see it have potentially pivoting.

• 1:29:27David Imel?

  Definitely not still.

• 1:29:29Speaker 05

I need to clarify one of the things in this because a little more nuance. The, the first like Microsoft store as we know Microsoft stores to exist was in fact in Scottsdale, Arizona. I can confirm that. There was a like prototype Microsoft store like, like seven or eight years before this opened that was operated by like a Sony consumer retail division in San Francisco. So it was there for like a two-ish years. So technically there was a retail experience called the Microsoft store. However, what we now know as Microsoft's, Microsoft store retail thing, Scottsdale, Arizona is still factually correct there.

• 1:30:11Speaker 02

  You got a 50 50 chance.

• 1:30:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, we have a 50 50 chance.

• 1:30:14Speaker 05

  I, I, oh.

• 1:30:18David Imel?

All right. So probably like, I don't think Groove is still up and running unless they pivoted to a streaming service. But I doubt it because who would?

• 1:30:26Andrew Manganelli?

  I.

• 1:30:27David Imel?

I don't know what Bing came from.

• 1:30:28Andrew Manganelli?

I, I feel like it has to be the.

• 1:30:30David Imel?

  Right?

• 1:30:31Andrew Manganelli?

The groove is the thing Adam wants us to pick. Cause it feels so obviously not.

• 1:30:37Speaker 01

Does it help to say that I did not write this question?

• 1:30:41Andrew Manganelli?

  No.

• 1:30:44Andrew Manganelli?

Microsoft calling something live feels really on brand.

• 1:30:48David Imel?

It does, which could be, is it too on brand?

• 1:30:50Speaker 05

  Called live.

• 1:30:51David Imel?

  Live translation.

• 1:30:52Speaker 05

Come on, it's right in front of you. Come on, you got this, you got this.

• 1:30:54Andrew Manganelli?

  I know it's there.

• 1:30:55Speaker 05

Yo, later tonight, we'll play some Halo and hop on.

• 1:30:59Andrew Manganelli?

  Oh, Xbox.

• 1:31:00David Imel?

  Also.

• 1:31:02Andrew Manganelli?

  Thank you.

• 1:31:02David Imel?

  Live translation and.

• 1:31:06David Imel?

I don't. Was it Windows Live? Windows Live?

• 1:31:10Andrew Manganelli?

What was the name of the search engine you're saying?

• 1:31:12Speaker 05

  Live, live search.

• 1:31:13Andrew Manganelli?

  Live search?

• 1:31:15Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:31:15Andrew Manganelli?

  That.

• 1:31:16David Imel?

Live search. It feels like something.

• 1:31:18Andrew Manganelli?

I can picture the blue in the logo.

• 1:31:20David Imel?

Live search? I don't, I know it's real. I've heard of it, but I don't know if it was Microsoft.

• 1:31:25Speaker 01

If I was making up a fake, early generation, like internet search engine name.

• 1:31:30David Imel?

  Especially from Microsoft.

• 1:31:31Speaker 01

I would call it live search because I'm searching the internet live.

• 1:31:36Andrew Manganelli?

It makes more sense than Ask Jeeves, but.

• 1:31:38Speaker 01

  I know.

• 1:31:39Andrew Manganelli?

  We all remember that incident.

• 1:31:40Speaker 01

  Bing, I don't remember a, a time before Bing. Maybe I'm too young. I really don't remember.

• 1:31:47David Imel?

Jeeves would be a great LLM at this point.

• 1:31:49Speaker 01

Did you have a time base in there or did you just say it was before Bing? Damn, I can't remember pre Bing. There's like BC.

• 1:31:54Andrew Manganelli?

  I. PB.

• 1:31:57Speaker 01

PB and AB. Yeah, I'm, I'm exclusively a post Bing. Tech person.

• 1:32:03Andrew Manganelli?

We just live in the post Bing world.

• 1:32:05Speaker 01

So I think I have to choose the, the Zune one.

• 1:32:07Andrew Manganelli?

I'll go. I'm somehow, I don't believe either of them somehow. Or I do, yeah, I don't know.

• 1:32:13David Imel?

I remember Groove Music. I don't. If they're still operating, they pivoted. So let's go with that.

• 1:32:18Speaker 02

Yeah, what's the answer? I need you guys to.

• 1:32:20Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:32:20David Imel?

Well, they just said they're still operating, right?

• 1:32:23Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:32:23David Imel?

So it's probably the other one.

• 1:32:25Andrew Manganelli?

So you think it's the search? I'll go with search.

• 1:32:27David Imel?

  I'm thinking search.

• 1:32:30Andrew Manganelli?

  Okay.

• 1:32:31Speaker 01

  That's

• 1:32:33Speaker 02

  Guys.

• 1:32:34Speaker 05

That group music is not operating anymore.

• 1:32:37Speaker 02

You guys had a 50 50 chance. We gave you that one.

• 1:32:42Andrew Manganelli?

What's funny is if you didn't say the other thing, I probably would have argued that we should pick Scottsdale.

• 1:32:46Speaker 02

All right. Well, this next one you guys need to get because two out of three of you have lived in this state your entire life. So.

• 1:32:51Speaker 01

  Oh, boy. Okay.

• 1:32:52Speaker 05

Guys, that's right. This final category, this final consumer product is the great state of New Jersey. Well, I'm gonna get this wrong.

• 1:33:04Speaker 01

  Well, you guys handle that.

• 1:33:04David Imel?

  Top half of New Jersey.

• 1:33:05Speaker 05

  First fact.

• 1:33:08Speaker 05

  The first baseball game.

• 1:33:10Speaker 01

  I don't know.

• 1:33:10Speaker 05

Ever recorded as being played was played in Hoboken, New Jersey.

• 1:33:16Speaker 01

  The first baseball game.

• 1:33:18Speaker 05

First, the first baseball game that is like recorded and we have the score and what happened.

• 1:33:22Speaker 01

  Does that ring a bell?

• 1:33:24Andrew Manganelli?

It's so funny thinking of Hoboken now, but like baseball has been around for a very long time. So.

• 1:33:30Speaker 05

In true New Jersey sports fashion, both of the teams were named for New York City. It was the New York Knickerbockers versus the New York Nine.

• 1:33:40Speaker 02

  Guys.

• 1:33:40Speaker 05

Second New Jersey fact, New Jersey has a spoon museum in Patterson. This spoon museum has over 5,600 spoons.

• 1:33:52Speaker 01

  I can see that.

• 1:33:55David Imel?

Watch the technicality of it. It's 5,599.

• 1:33:58Speaker 05

Third New Jersey fact, New Jersey's very own Atlantic City is the basis for the property names in the popular board game.

• 1:34:11Andrew Manganelli?

Unless he doesn't say Monopoly yet.

• 1:34:13Speaker 01

  That's true.

• 1:34:14Speaker 05

  Shoots and laughs.

• 1:34:17Speaker 05

Candy Land. You guys ever played Candy Land?

• 1:34:19David Imel?

  Hell yeah, bro.

• 1:34:20Speaker 05

What? You've never been to the gumdrop forest in New Jersey?

• 1:34:23Andrew Manganelli?

  Not the gumdrop.

• 1:34:24Speaker 02

  Bally's is.

• 1:34:26Speaker 01

Okay, um, this spoons one, I have no idea. I've never heard of it, but it wouldn't shock me. So that's where I'm at with that one. The monopoly one, I know that that is true, and I believe there's no gotchas in there. That sounds correct. Yeah. So the first one is the first ever baseball game recorded was in Hoboken.

• 1:34:46David Imel?

  Called Hoboken at the time.

• 1:34:48Speaker 01

The first ever baseball game is so long ago. It's so long ago. What Hoboken was, I mean, Hoboken, okay, to be fair, Stevens was founded in like the 1870s. But baseball's older than that, right?

• 1:35:00Speaker 02

What came first, baseball or Hoboken?

• 1:35:02Speaker 01

What is, how old is the first baseball game?

• 1:35:04David Imel?

Yeah, when did the Louisiana Purchase happen?

• 1:35:07Speaker 01

The first, the first baseball game ever recorded? What year could that be?

• 1:35:15Speaker 01

  1894.

• 1:35:17David Imel?

  BB before Bing.

• 1:35:19Speaker 01

  Cause I'm fairly sure.

• 1:35:20Speaker 02

  1846.

• 1:35:21Speaker 01

Damn, so Stevens was founded in Hoboken in like 1876. So I guess it's possible that there was a Hoboken in 1840 something.

• 1:35:29Speaker 01

  Wow.

• 1:35:30David Imel?

It's probably called like New York Extension at that point. New York across the river.

• 1:35:35Speaker 01

New York. Oh, was that part of it that they're called New York Nines and New York Knickerbockers?

• 1:35:40David Imel?

  Probably.

• 1:35:41Speaker 01

I have no idea if that's true.

• 1:35:42Speaker 02

So probably wasn't part of the actual question. That was just more context.

• 1:35:45David Imel?

  The Hoboken thing?

• 1:35:47Speaker 01

No, the names of the New York and, oh, teams, the teams.

• 1:35:51Speaker 05

I can't believe you haven't commented on anything that this was technically a Knicks game. I know.

• 1:35:56Speaker 01

  Yeah, Knickerbockers is funny.

• 1:35:58Speaker 02

New Jersey Knicks. They had Jalen Brunson.

• 1:36:02Speaker 01

I don't know. The Patterson Spoon Museum, I have like, no. Might as well be the Spoon Museum. I have no idea.

• 1:36:10Speaker 02

  I know very little.

• 1:36:11David Imel?

I bet it wasn't called Hoboken. That's my guess.

• 1:36:14Speaker 02

  I kind of think.

• 1:36:15David Imel?

Is it a fork museum instead?

• 1:36:18Speaker 02

I kind of think the Spoon Museum.

• 1:36:21Speaker 01

  I think that's.

• 1:36:21David Imel?

  I have no opinion.

• 1:36:23Speaker 01

The Spoon Museum seems like one that we would skip over and just assume it's true. And I think that's what makes it a good lie.

• 1:36:28Speaker 02

Can I suggest that maybe we make this worth four points?

• 1:36:33Speaker 05

So either you win or you lose on this answer.

• 1:36:36David Imel?

  Alright, alright, that's fine.

• 1:36:37Andrew Manganelli?

It changes my confidence in this question.

• 1:36:40David Imel?

  We're gonna just guess anyway.

• 1:36:41Speaker 05

  Alright, and your guess is?

• 1:36:42Andrew Manganelli?

  Spoon Museum.

• 1:36:43Speaker 05

Spoon Museum is correct. Not just, David was correct again. The Spoon Museum only has 5,400 spoons, not the aforementioned 5,600.

• 1:36:54David Imel?

Wait, so the lie is not that there's a Spoon Museum?

• 1:36:56Speaker 05

No, there is a Spoon Museum in Patterson. It just doesn't have quite as many spoons.

• 1:36:59David Imel?

I was actually right, oh my god.

• 1:37:01Andrew Manganelli?

I thought there was a Fork Museum.

• 1:37:03David Imel?

No, earlier in the episode, I said, "Watch, the technicality is gonna be that it has 5,599."

• 1:37:11Speaker 05

So they have, they say over 5,400, so not, not the over 5,600 I said. Which means you guys, with your four points, have taken it to seven points, meaning you guys

• 1:37:21David Imel?

  A.

• 1:37:22Speaker 05

  beat the hosts.

• 1:37:23David Imel?

Can you play the, can you play the Trivia Extravaganza music?

• 1:37:27Speaker 05

David, I would take us to trivia, however, I heard, because you told me 30 seconds ago, that we have

• 1:37:34Speaker 05

  breaking news.

• 1:37:35David Imel?

Breaking news. This is WFRM. We're coming at you with some breaking news here. Finally, we're not late on a topic. We talked about Ring earlier, and how Ring is going to not use Flock for its Search Party feature. It's kinda not going forward with it. Now, there is a new report from 404 Media that just dropped, that has some leaked emails from the CEO of Ring. Where he says, "This is by far the most innovation that we have ever launched in the history of Ring, and it is not only the quality, but quantity. I believe that the foundation we created with Search Party, first for finding dogs,

• 1:38:16David Imel?

will end up becoming one of the most important pieces of tech and innovation to truly unlock the impact of our mission. You can now see a future where we are able to zero out crime in neighborhoods. So many things to do when we get there, but for the first time ever, we have the chance to fully complete, compete, complete what we started."

• 1:38:36Speaker 02

That was the Ring CEO, not the Palantir CEO?

• 1:38:38David Imel?

Yeah, it was the Ring CEO.

• 1:38:39Speaker 02

  Oh, okay.

• 1:38:40David Imel?

So, you know, they're like, dogs only, dogs only, dogs only.

• 1:38:44Andrew Manganelli?

  Unless.

• 1:38:45David Imel?

  Unless.

• 1:38:46Speaker 05

We are so lucky, man. Like, Ring guy is gonna like make crime zero. Sam Altman is gonna make cancer zero. Elon is gonna make poverty zero. Like, these guys just are so good.

• 1:38:57David Imel?

They're so good at making things zero.

• 1:38:59Speaker 05

  Thanks, boys.

• 1:39:00David Imel?

You know, sometimes there's a little bit too much skepticism, but I think that we have the perfect amount at this moment.

• 1:39:08Speaker 05

Well, you know what? You should have more skepticism about.

• 1:39:11David Imel?

  Yep.

• 1:39:13Speaker 05

My trivia questions, because so often they require.

• 1:39:16Andrew Manganelli?

Oh my god, we haven't played trivia yet?

• 1:39:18Speaker 05

No. But we're about to do it now.

• 1:39:20David Imel?

And then we're gonna do another game in the next episode.

• 1:39:24Speaker 05

  Surprise.

• 1:39:27David Imel?

  We're playing games, boy.

• 1:39:28Speaker 02

I got games, boy. Quick update on the score. Marquez with 14. Still. Still. And still. David with 16. Andrew with 17.

• 1:39:38David Imel?

  Carrying the one.

• 1:39:39Speaker 02

  Carrying the one.

• 1:39:39Andrew Manganelli?

How long have I had 17 for? I don't think I have a point in the new year.

• 1:39:43Speaker 02

No, you have a point in the new year. It's just.

• 1:39:46Andrew Manganelli?

I don't have a point since Marquez complained about not having a point in the new year.

• 1:39:50Speaker 02

You think you haven't gotten a point in like eight episodes?

• 1:39:53Andrew Manganelli?

Since whenever Marquez whined about it.

• 1:39:57Speaker 02

  He cursed you.

• 1:39:58Andrew Manganelli?

  He did curse me.

• 1:39:59Speaker 05

It's like you're the Philadelphia 76ers and Marquez is Jared McCain getting traded away.

• 1:40:05Andrew Manganelli?

  Yeah, agreed.

• 1:40:06Speaker 02

God bless Jared McCain. Anyway, we spoke about the Pixel 10A, but the first A series Pixel was the 3A. Which giant manufacturer made it?

• 1:40:18Speaker 02

And I mean like, the company that actually manufactured it, not the one that designed it. Because we all know Google designed it. There's your hint, Andrew.

• 1:40:31Andrew Manganelli?

  BBK.

• 1:40:33Speaker 02

  The great-

• 1:40:34David Imel?

  Who's that?

• 1:40:35Speaker 02

  Blues musician?

• 1:40:36David Imel?

I didn't think they existed anymore.

• 1:40:40Speaker 02

Flip 'em and read, what do you got?

• 1:40:44Speaker 02

  What'd you say?

• 1:40:44Andrew Manganelli?

  I hope I'm right.

• 1:40:45David Imel?

  Uh, I said HTC.

• 1:40:47Speaker 02

  David, what'd you say?

• 1:40:48David Imel?

  I said HTC.

• 1:40:49Andrew Manganelli?

  And he's just right.

• 1:40:52Speaker 02

  Wrong. Andrew, what'd you say?

• 1:40:53Andrew Manganelli?

  LG.

• 1:40:55Speaker 02

  Also wrong. It was Foxconn.

• 1:40:59David Imel?

  Really?

• 1:40:59Speaker 02

Yeah, you guys looking it up before confused you.

• 1:41:02David Imel?

  Well, that's a bummer.

• 1:41:03Speaker 02

I definitely thought you guys were gonna get that one. I was trying to throw you a bone. Now you're stuck with-

• 1:41:08Andrew Manganelli?

Foxconn? You thought Foxconn was throwing us a bone?

• 1:41:10David Imel?

They make most of the phones in the world.

• 1:41:12Speaker 01

Yeah, I know. They made every phone, actually. I thought they'd-

• 1:41:16David Imel?

  Okay. Well.

• 1:41:18Speaker 05

Question number two, guys. Ring was not always called Ring. Before they were Ring, they were called...

• 1:41:28Speaker 05

  A. Doorbot. B. Campbell. C. Stoopwatcher. Also, I should've said Stoopwatcher does not have an E. It's just Stoopwatcher.

• 1:41:40David Imel?

  With an R?

• 1:41:41Speaker 05

  Yeah, because this is like-

• 1:41:42Speaker 01

Oh, that does sound really hon.

• 1:41:45Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:41:46David Imel?

I mean, it depends where they were headquartered.

• 1:41:49Speaker 05

  Sesame Street.

• 1:41:52David Imel?

  Is that a real place?

• 1:41:53Speaker 05

  Sesame Street?

• 1:41:54David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:41:54Speaker 05

Yeah, it's in Atlantic City with the rest of the Anopoly properties.

• 1:41:59Andrew Manganelli?

Right next to the gumdrop before-

• 1:42:00Speaker 05

It's right next to the gumdrop before-

• 1:42:03Andrew Manganelli?

  It's in New York City.

• 1:42:08David Imel?

Is it your taco bar? Campbell.

• 1:42:11Speaker 05

  Okay, what, what?

• 1:42:13David Imel?

  Maybe I'll put something different.

• 1:42:14Andrew Manganelli?

No, Mark hasn't. I put the same thing.

• 1:42:16David Imel?

Yeah, Andrew and I put B.

• 1:42:17Speaker 05

  Campbell, like the soup?

• 1:42:19David Imel?

  Yeah.

• 1:42:20Andrew Manganelli?

I wanted that to be right so bad.

• 1:42:23David Imel?

  I put C, Stoopwatcher.

• 1:42:25Speaker 05

  No, it's called Doorbot.

• 1:42:28Andrew Manganelli?

  You guys are on one.

• 1:42:29David Imel?

  Doorbot is a, what?

• 1:42:31Andrew Manganelli?

  Doorbot?

• 1:42:32David Imel?

  It's a horrible name.

• 1:42:34Speaker 02

This makes it easy for me because I don't have to update the score graphics.

• 1:42:36Andrew Manganelli?

It's the same graphic for like six weeks. God.

• 1:42:39Speaker 05

The hell he thought it was called Cambell?

• 1:42:41David Imel?

  Instant, instant cease and desist.

• 1:42:44Andrew Manganelli?

You guys are getting good at when we ask questions to like, answer the questions on the fake things really believably.

• 1:42:51Speaker 01

Honestly, when Ellis said with an R, I should have known it wasn't that one. Well, we tried.

• 1:42:56David Imel?

  Doorbot?

• 1:42:57Speaker 05

I think like most of this podcast was just Adam and I not telling the truth.

• 1:43:03Speaker 01

And us like floundering and flailing.

• 1:43:04David Imel?

  Yeah, it's bot?

• 1:43:06Speaker 05

  Yeah.

• 1:43:06David Imel?

  What makes it a bot?

• 1:43:08Speaker 01

I don't know. It just seems like a cool thing to say.

• 1:43:13Speaker 01

No, that's the next, next week.

• 1:43:40Speaker 05

Okay, so nothing new will be announced from anyone.

• 1:43:43Speaker 01

New nothing is in two weeks. Nothing new is next week.

• 1:43:47Speaker 05

  Amazing. Thank you so much.

• 1:43:48Speaker 01

  Yeah, perfect.

• 1:43:49Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, for us produced by Adam Malina and Ellis Rovin. Why does that sound so weird?

• 1:43:53David Imel?

  You're doing great, sweetie.

• 1:43:54Andrew Manganelli?

Wait, for us produced by Adam Malina and Ellis Rovin, part of Vox Media Podcast Network and intro music was created by Vansel.

• 1:44:13Speaker 01

• 1:44:19Speaker 05

  Wait, are you?

• 1:44:20Speaker 01

  These are facts.

• 1:44:22David Imel?

  No.

• 1:44:23Speaker 04
